feat: connect experimental Cursor Cloud to native Runner (#18069)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work. > - Native Runner owns execution and task authority. > - Operators need an explicit native Cursor Cloud choice. > - Tools/files need company, task, session and run scope. > - This connects setup and lifecycle to Runner Core. > - Legacy agents retain their selected runtime/history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Depends on #18068. Managed-only API placement and API-owned Stop containment are in #18310. Refs #5664, #11803, #17299, and #17471. No duplicate native integration was found. ## What Changed - Add explicit native setup, Test, saved settings and dispatch with no-prompt account/catalog/callback checks. - Scope MCP to company, agent, task, session and run through authenticated HTTPS. Register verified artifacts/work products; preserve unpriced accounting, completion and budgets. - Connect Question/Plan continuation, cold handoff and admitted fresh sessions; recheck waiting admission under the task lock. - Present audited Stop intent while preserving physical containment proof; bound typed Stop metadata. Preserve title edits through preference/navigation readiness. - Select one live/history representation per run to prevent duplicate settled cards. Integrate upstream task/read-state/retry/schema contracts and repair two test fixtures. ## Verification Core #18068 merged normally as `3910352c923a`. Product head `5a60f541c982` has passing repository CI/build/browser checks, including required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, plus a fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5 review with zero unresolved threads. Two non-required external app checks remain pending: Paperclip Review is queued waiting for its assigned agent; Superagent Security Scan is reviewing the diff. These are not claimed completed. The normal merge endpoint enforces the repository rules; no policy or status override is used. The dependent Top PR is addressing its fresh deferred-Stop review finding. Product `5a60f541c982` passed 270 UI and 20 selected Cloud/native/disk-full tests, UI/server typechecks, tokens and maps. Top’s clean normal merge passed tokens/maps/diff checks; its matrix is pending. Earlier receipts retain Core’s 47 Rust, 4 compiled-native retirement and 19 settlement controls, normal Runner build, and runtime 9af build/recursive typecheck. Reproduced loading/shutdown CI fixture failures passed 7/7 browser and 121/121 unit tests, including a broken-unsubscribe negative control. No timeout/oracle was relaxed. The actual-parent restack adopts 75 mainline paths, including schema/permission and generic runtime changes, beyond the prior two fixture repairs and client projection fix. The full difference from hosted `9af1a5de42a2` is therefore larger than four files; backend source also differs. The merged config-read checks match Core391, and the Cursor placement/runtime/relay/selection modules match frozen9af; selected affected regressions pass. Paid proof keeps its actual 9af source/image identity. The separately tested live/history card fix is not claimed deployed on that host. On 9af, original saved settings survived reopening and fresh no-prompt Test authenticated catalog/model/binding; no new Save is claimed. Fresh Linux admission passed. With `claude-sonnet-4-5`, Artifact downloaded exact 27 bytes and matched 121 canonical identities in complete S3-served history. First Stop’s strict quiet FAILED on a 10.373-second gap despite independent cancellation/no late artifact. One targeted unchanged-sampler retry retained all 24 samples: 35.076 seconds quiet / maximum gap 4.584 seconds, 67 ordered canonical identities, and separate CANCELLED/artifact-absent status after the original 180-second deadline. The pre-reload duplicate settled card is disclosed. Exact-ID cleanup for the three new provider agents is awaiting authorization, so full grades and the fresh Artifact’s post-cleanup download remain blocked. A historical deleted-provider artifact was newly downloaded on 9af; original F226 Question/Plan/reconnect and cleanup proof keep their identities. Retained failures: stale fixture 132/133; E8 48/135 with 87 reset-hook failures; Mac 17 SQL failures/skips; earlier title/startup/custody/Stop/deletion failures with unknown causes/bounded recoveries; `dea023` Stop’s warning/50 duplicate identities; pre-repair ACK and original Core CI failures. WSP’s 251-assertion, 7/8-suite attempt failed physical PostgreSQL teardown; the unchanged wrapper rerun passed 128. Retry alone establishes no cause or full local-suite pass. All paid attempts remain recorded; vendor dollar cost is UNKNOWN. ## Risks Experimental: Cursor independently acknowledges neither the effective model nor instruction digest before the first prompt. Explicit values are submitted and checked through behavior; unpriced provider dollar cost stays UNKNOWN. Callbacks need authenticated reachable HTTPS. Scope, revocation, budgets, completion and cleanup remain authoritative. Operator Stop intent is separate from physical containment. Saved legacy agents retain their selected runtime. Prior shared title-save/deletion failures remain disclosed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, assisted with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, browser verification, and delegated code review. The serving model’s exact API ID and context window are not exposed. No value is inferred from the model catalog. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used and the limits of available model metadata - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or described the issue in this PR - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch describes the change and contains no internal ticket ID - [x] I have run the scoped local tests reported above; pending gates are stated separately - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented the risks - [x] All required CI gates pass on the current head - [x] Fresh Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings on the current head - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(auth): add independent agent configuration read permission (#18766)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents need to inspect configuration and instructions when they set up teammates. > - Configuration reads currently depend on configure or suggestion grants. > - Legacy standard agents did not receive those newer grants. Some self-read routes also lose the target agent identity. > - This pull request adds an independent read grant and applies only that grant to eligible existing agents. > - The benefit is that agents can inspect and verify configuration without new write authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15283. Related earlier proposals: #8064 and #12050. Those proposals target older authorization code; this change uses the current configure/suggest model and adds a read-only rollout for existing agents. Related bounded peer metadata proposal: #14160. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent configuration, configured skill, instruction, and revision reads through the existing APIs and native instruction tools. **Current behavior** An agent needs `agents:configure` or `agents:suggest-changes` to inspect a peer. Older standard agents can hire a teammate but cannot verify the saved instructions. Configuration and revision routes also reject self-reads because they authorize a company resource instead of the target agent. **Proposed behavior** Add `agents:read` for redacted configuration and instruction reads. Keep `agents:configure` as read/write and preserve suggestion-grant compatibility. Standard new agents receive the read grant. A one-time migration grants only reads to eligible existing standard agents. Individual routes authorize the target agent and grant scope. **Reason and benefit** Read access can be granted without configuration changes, rollback, or environment probes. Legacy agents can verify teammates without receiving new write permissions. ## What Changed - Add `agents:read` to the shared permission contract and standard-agent defaults. - Accept read, configure, or suggestion grants for configuration reads, with target scope and the responsible-user ceiling. - Fix target-aware self and scoped configuration, skill, and revision reads. - Add an audited data migration. Skip low-trust, built-in, inactive, pending, terminated, setup, and scoped configuration/suggestion cases. Preserve existing read scopes and later revocation. - Update the specifications, default-permission documentation, and agent access map. ## Verification - Focused acceptance: 276 tests passed across seven suites on commit `a37314df88`: authorization, real-key HTTP access, route authorization, canonical instructions, default grants, migration replay, and lifecycle configuration. - The HTTP journey uses a real hashed agent API key and a disposable PostgreSQL database. It verifies redaction, scoped reads, denied edits and rollback, cross-company isolation, and both agent and responsible-user revocation. - New read-grant regressions failed before the authorization change. A realistic paused/pausing/resuming migration fixture also failed before the lifecycle filter correction and passed afterward. Setup-held paused agents stay excluded. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on the rebased branch; the final lifecycle migration correction also passed the database package typecheck and build. The latest commit changes only a test assertion. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` passed. - Full current-head [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41641531426) passed: typecheck, build, all general and serialized test lanes, Runner checks, all eight browser shards, canary dry run, policy, and aggregate gates. The local full-suite attempt was stopped after exposing the outdated cross-company 403 assertion; interrupted local full-suite attempts are not counted as passes. ## Risks The migration deliberately expands redacted configuration and instruction visibility for eligible existing standard agents in the same company. An absent older write grant does not deny the new read capability. It adds no write grant. Scoped configure/suggestion grants and all existing read-grant scopes stay intact. Administrators can remove the independent read grant after the one-time rollout; ordinary updates and startup do not restore it. Configure and suggestion grants still imply reads within their own scopes. Cross-company configuration/history reads now return 404 through the common target-aware helper. No schema change or credential-value disclosure is added. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The host does not expose a more specific runtime model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(api): surface existing skill source import in discovery (#18757)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agents discover supported API operations through the public OpenAPI
catalog.
> - Importing existing skill content must retain its source provenance.
> - A normal source-import query misses the applicable operation on its
first page because that operation has little search metadata.
> - This pull request describes the existing import operation and its
source boundaries.
> - The benefit is clearer discovery without changing search scoring or
import authority.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
`search_api` does not return `POST
/api/companies/{companyId}/skills/import` in the first ten results for
`import skill from source SKILL.md`. Source-management operations rank
ahead of the import operation. The import entry has only the summary
“Import a skill.”
**Expected behavior**
Ordinary source-import discovery should surface the existing operation.
Its documentation should explain that imported content retains
provenance and remains subject to company policy and source checks.
**Steps to reproduce**
Call `searchRunnerApi({ query: "import skill from source SKILL.md",
limit: 10 })`. Inspect the operation IDs on the first page. The new
regression sends this result through the real bounded MCP serializer.
Related: #18717 clarifies the separate `create_skill` tool. This change
covers the existing source-import HTTP operation. Neither PR is merged
by this work.
## What Changed
- Expand only the source-import OpenAPI summary and description.
Describe allowed local skill directories, supported remote sources,
retained provenance and existing access checks.
- Add a first-page discovery regression through the actual authenticated
MCP bridge and serializer. Keep non-import lookup, company/mode refusal
and denial forwarding controls.
- Update the feature and access maps with the test scope and its limits.
## Verification
- Parent regression: the controlled loopback MCP response lacked the
applicable import operation on the first page.
- Focused current checks: 2,060 tests pass in
`skill-import-discovery.test.ts` and the existing `runner-api.test.ts`
owner.
- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passes. This checks map structure only.
- The first head had one server test job cancelled after a runner
shutdown signal. The reason for the shutdown is unknown. The reviewed
successor removes only two test comments required by contribution rules;
its four focused controls pass. The remaining obsolete CI run was
cancelled after that successor was published. No same-head retry was
used.
- The new test is under `server/src/__tests__`, which the production
server typecheck excludes and the server Vitest suite includes.
- No local app, database, native agent or provider model was run. Normal
PR CI on `a4aaae8e320fb1d56cdbff9f376ec832a634a5da` passed with 48
successful jobs and one skipped job, including the required `ci /
verify` and `ci / e2e` checks. No completed agent-import journey or
reliability result is claimed.
- Greptile is 5/5 on the current head with no unresolved threads. The
optional Paperclip Review check remains queued. This is not merge
authorization.
- Keep this core PR open and unmerged. Do not enable auto-merge.
## Risks
The expanded metadata can change where this operation ranks for related
queries. Search weights, request schemas, HTTP routes, source parsing,
authorization and company skill policy are unchanged. The synthetic 403
control proves denial forwarding; it does not qualify the real policy or
source-import route. A live import still needs separate acceptance.
## Model Used
OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol`, through Codex with reasoning, source review and
code execution tools. The exact context-window size is not exposed by
this environment. A separate agent reviewed the source and contract
before publication.

Explain the human primary-agent control in API discovery (#18747)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets a person manage a company of AI agents. > - A primary agent is that person's company preference. > - Only the person's board session can change it. > - Native API discovery explains that restriction but omits the real human control. > - An agent can then suggest a Chat-picker setting that does not exist. > - This change describes the existing profile crown and replacement confirmation. > - It adds no agent authority and no new tool. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** API discovery for the personal primary-agent preference explains board-only access. It does not explain the supported profile control. A retained native response gave a correct board API alternative but also suggested a primary setting in the Chat picker. The picker only opens conversations. **Expected behavior** The discovered operation should direct the person to the chosen agent's profile, the crown control labeled Set as my primary, and the replacement confirmation. It must keep the current person's board authority and the agent denial. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Search the native API for set primary agent. 2. Read the primary-agent operation's description. 3. Compare its guidance with the profile crown and the Chat picker. 4. The current description has no supported UI path. **Paperclip version or commit** Master `7b8aa60b6d` and the retained evaluated application have this metadata gap. The profile control was checked in both sources. A scoped open-PR search found no matching primary-discovery fix. ## What Changed - Add general profile/crown/confirmation guidance to the existing GET and PUT operation description. - Clarify that the Chat picker does not change the preference. - Keep all other OpenAPI bytes, authority, schemas and handlers unchanged. - Update the two existing capability maps. ## Verification - The actual API search result passes through the existing authenticated OpenCode MCP bridge and its bounded JSON serializer. The parent fails because the delivered description has no profile control. The new result retains the full guidance, board-only actor and original schema. - The existing API client keeps its agent bearer/run identity and propagates a mocked board403. This is client propagation proof, not a new real-route claim. - Initial selected controls:997PASS,1061 intentionally unselected. After relocating the same test into the existing server `__tests__` directory, both complete owning files pass:2058 controls. These are static/protocol controls, not native journeys. - The first normal CI head failed with TS6059 because the test imported Runner source outside the server build root. The successor moves only that test to the already-excluded test directory and adjusts four relative imports. An independent source peer confirms identical test bodies; `--listFilesOnly` confirms build-program exclusion. The failed head is retained. Corrected-head CI41599277833 passed48 jobs/1skip on attempt2 at08:17:23UTC. Attempt1 had46passing jobs but a server4 runner-shutdown cancellation; exactly that job and dependent verify were rerun once on the unchanged head. - Maps and diff checks pass. The initial loopback listen EPERM was a setup failure; the controlled transport test then reached the actual assertion RED. - No Paperclip app, database, browser, model, external provider or real credential ran locally. Full typecheck/build passed in corrected-head normal PR CI. Fresh Greptile5/5 is tied to that exact head, with zero unresolved threads. ## Risks The added description can affect API search ranking. It changes guidance only. It does not impersonate a person, change permissions or automatically select an agent. Future model behavior remains unqualified. The prior mixed failed journey is retained; its separate versioned grading work is not part of this PR. Keep this core PR unmerged. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` with reasoning, source inspection and tool use. Context-window size was not exposed by the host.

Allow a new human intent to request tool review after a decline (#18742)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for companies of AI agents. > - App writes can require a human review for each invocation. > - Decline and Always allow are separate controls. > - The gateway currently reuses a declined action across later human requests with the same arguments. > - A new request can therefore receive the old decline instead of a new review. > - This change uses the saved run and human comment to distinguish a new intent. > - The new intent still follows the current policy and approval gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** After a person declines an Ask first app write, a later request from that person for the same write receives `action_declined`. The gateway matches company, task, agent, tool and arguments across runs. It does not distinguish the later human request. **Expected behavior** A distinct later request from the same responsible person can open a new Ask first review. It must not execute the write or reuse approval. A retry of the declined intent, including its rejection continuation, must remain declined. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to perform an app write that requires approval. 2. Decline the proposed action. 3. Send a new request for the same action. 4. Observe that the gateway reuses the old rejection and creates no new pending review. **Paperclip version or commit** The behavior is present on master `7b8aa60b6d` and in a retained native journey. The focused parent control reproduces the matching error. No related open fix was found in the scoped PR search. ## What Changed - Only a rejected match can be released for a later human intent. - Require the active run, company, task, agent and responsible person to match the saved direct-human comment. Reject derived, deleted, untrusted or system-authored input and invalid chronology. - Preserve all other replay states, signed argument checks, current policy, unresolved-effect guards, approval and execution owners. - Document the distinction between decline and a standing policy change. ## Verification - Actual matching-function control: parent fails; this change passes. The control uses the unchanged owner body with synthetic database rows. It does not claim real PostgreSQL or provider verification. - 52 focused pure controls pass. These cover same-intent retries, rejection continuations, foreign scope and actor, invalid authorship, chronology and other action states. - TypeScript 7.0.2 checks pass for the new helper and its owning tests. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass. - The existing gateway service suite has a new signed-action integration test. It covers ordinary and reopened human requests. It requires the old rejection plus one new pending request, a stable retry, and no completed call. Each leaf prints one fixed success label after its assertions so CI can distinguish execution from a platform skip. No local PostgreSQL, app, model or provider execution was run. Current-head normal CI41594912212 completed with48 successful jobs and1 expected skip. Both real PostgreSQL leaves executed and emitted their post-assertion markers; the owning job passed. Full typecheck/build checks passed in CI. ## Risks This adds one indexed run/comment read only after a rejected matching action. Missing identity or ambiguous provenance keeps the old rejection. Legacy and external comments without direct-human provenance do not reset it. A new human intent is not consent to execute. This core PR remains unmerged. Candidate native journey qualification is separate; the original failed journey is retained. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` with reasoning, source inspection and tool use. The host did not expose the context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #123` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): show provider failure details on tasks and runs (#18622)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native Runner starts providers and records their run outcomes. > - Provider failures can contain useful details below a generic protocol error. > - Those details were lost at the sidecar, command receipt, and run projection boundaries. > - A blocked task therefore showed a generic failure even when the provider gave a clear reason. > - This pull request carries a bounded, sanitized provider failure through those boundaries. > - Operators can read the actual cause on the task and run pages. Existing recovery policy still controls retries. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17543 for the related closed JSON-RPC classification work. Refs #17272 for provider recovery in the legacy OpenCode adapter. This change adds display evidence for native Runner providers and keeps recovery policy separate. **What happened?** A native Claude session returned an HTTP 429 message below an ACP `Internal error`. The task and run showed only a generic startup failure. Operators had to inspect the provider response to learn that the account was rate limited. **Expected behavior** The task and run show the sanitized provider message, provider name, startup or turn phase, and available HTTP status. Unknown categories keep the message. Display evidence does not grant a retry or replace a recovery decision. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native Claude run whose account is rate limited during model selection, or return a structured provider failure from a Codex or OpenCode turn. 2. Let the run fail and open its task page. 3. Before this change, the page shows a generic failure. With this change, the page shows the provider explanation. The run page shows the same explanation after reload. **Paperclip version or commit** Source checkout based on `f8a888a072`. ## What Changed - Add one JSON Schema for `ProviderFailure` and generate matching Runner and shared TypeScript readers. Keep the Runner package independent of the app workspace at runtime. - Normalize known ACPX, Codex, and OpenCode error fields. Preserve unknown messages. Redact known credential values and credential patterns before applying the 4,000-character limit. Do not copy response bodies, headers, stacks, or prompts. - Carry startup failures through the sidecar, Rust Runner, durable command receipts, and private transport error details. Keep provider text out of generic transport error strings and Sentry failure messages. - Keep turn failures in authenticated run events. Recover the same evidence from persisted events during server finalization. Store the cause in the company-scoped run result. - Show one shared notice on failed tasks and run details. Keep existing retry permissions, scheduled retry state, and resolved-task behavior. - Reapply registered run-secret and current-user redaction to task display data. Batch secret lookups for only the visible provider causes. - Document the contract and update the capability maps. Add regressions for nested Claude 429 errors, OpenAI quota and rate limits, OpenCode errors, redaction, durable receipt replay, restart finalization, and UI rendering. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. `pnpm build` passed. All GitHub Actions build, test, package, and validation jobs passed on `d49c79ab4a`. The security checks passed. Greptile gave this head 5/5 with no open review threads. Paperclip Review remains pending. Its review worker exhausted six workspace recovery attempts with export_interrupted. A fresh review request was accepted and is waiting for that saved workspace. The ordinary Retry action rejected reuse of the stopped request. This is an external review-worker blocker; no check was overridden. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the CI test shards passed. - Focused server settlement, provider evidence, and restart tests: 93 passed. Runner admission and normalization tests: 103 passed. Focused Runner wire and terminal tests: 29 passed. The real Rust/sidecar command receipt replay test passed. - The new projection test failed before implementation because the task had no provider cause. The startup producer regression also failed before extraction moved ahead of the generic error-code replacement. Both pass with this change. - Live check: a rebuilt local sidecar received an actual Claude HTTP 429 during startup. The new cause kept the full provider message. A synthetic task in an isolated local app then reached the same provider error through the native Runner path. The dedicated run result, task API, task banner, and run detail all showed the same message after reload. The later reporting fix keeps run.error generic; a regression proves the display cause still survives restart and stays out of Sentry capture. - The first isolated app attempt failed earlier in `admission_credential`. An ordinary manual Retry reached the provider and produced the 429 above. This PR does not claim to fix that separate admission failure. An initial parallel local database test setup also failed; the serial restart suite passed. - Security review found that copying display text into run.error could forward it to Sentry. A regression failed with that behavior. The fix keeps the cause in its display field. All 38 settlement/restart tests and the server typecheck pass. - All 29 protocol contract tests pass, including bounds and extra-field rejection. An earlier full Rust core run passed. The later full run hit one 5-second receipt-limit timing assertion; its isolated rerun passed. The full Linux and Windows Rust CI jobs passed on this head. - Review regressions pass for explicit Codex driver identity, native Rust startup and resume receipt propagation, oversized OpenCode/ACPX errors, task read-time registered-secret redaction, and the standalone source closure. The focused Runner run passed 103 tests; projection/restart tests passed 16. - Read-time redaction edge cases passed: a missing decryption key omits only the unsafe optional explanation; expanded redacted messages remain visible within the Unicode character limit. All 14 task projection tests and server typecheck pass. - The package Build check found an old Pi assertion against Error.message. The probe now checks the exact closed classification in the authenticated receipt and requires the new provider cause. Both polling transport cases pass. A local credential-free Pi probe stopped at admission_installation because this checkout lacks the Pi distribution; the installed Linux package probe passed in CI on this head. - UI coverage includes startup and turn text, unknown categories, literal rendering of provider text, read-only retry behavior, and resolved-task suppression. Token gates and map checks passed. - The live check covers Claude startup on macOS. Codex, OpenCode, terminal failures, and restart paths have deterministic regression coverage. The change is not deployed. ## Risks - Provider messages are untrusted text. The boundary selects specific fields, redacts credential patterns and known environment secret values, bounds the message, and renders plain text. New provider-specific secret formats may need added redaction patterns. - Optional fields preserve compatibility with older producers and stored runs. Old runs without the field keep their current fallback text. No database migration is required. - The cause stays in company-scoped run data. This change does not send provider text to first-party Telemetry or add it to OpenTelemetry span attributes. - Normalized categories and retryability are display evidence. Existing recovery classifiers, retry limits, ownership checks, and approval gates keep their authority. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The host does not expose the exact serving variant or context window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): refresh prior warm controller projections (#18718)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native remote sessions keep their controller state in a database checkpoint. > - An admission can also leave a full local copy of a prior run's state. > - The prior owner can commit more state without changing its run ID. > - Warm admission skipped a refresh when the local and saved run IDs matched. > - This pull request refreshes that prior-run copy when no retained warm owner exists. > - The next turn can use the committed state while existing ownership checks remain effective. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A prior warm run can complete after an earlier admission reads its controller checkpoint. The local copy can still contain a pending command or lack the final terminal event. A later admission sees the same run ID and skips restoration. It can then hold work against that old copy even though the database checkpoint has settled. **Expected behavior** Read the canonical prior-run checkpoint before reuse when no retained in-memory owner exists. Keep current-run state with its controller. Keep unresolved canonical work and invalid checkpoint bindings blocked. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a full prior-run local projection while a command is pending. 2. Complete that command and record the terminal in the canonical checkpoint under the same run ID. 3. Start an ordinary remote warm continuation without a retained in-memory owner. 4. Before this change, the local command remains pending. With this change, the completed command and terminal replace the stale copy. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on master `36df8933f0` before changing production code. Related work: #18018 restored per-turn checkpoints; #18343 added controller replacement recovery; #18554 restored missing remote suspension receipts. This change handles a full prior-run projection whose run ID already matches the saved supervisor. It does not change the settlement guard or MCP compatibility policy. ## What Changed - Refresh a prior-run warm controller projection even when its run ID has not changed. - Keep current-run and retained warm owner authority on the existing path. - Add five executor cases for a settled source, a pending canonical command, a current run, legacy file-backed state, and an invalid checkpoint binding. - Add an opt-in Linux continuity case with a stale full local projection and two follow-up turns. - Update execution documentation and the paired session verification recipes. ## Verification - RED before the production edit: the executor fixture retained `pending` in its local command record when the canonical record was `completed`. - GREEN on the final commit: 48 focused tests passed across executor restoration, retained warm owner rotation, per-turn restoration, and remote settlement guards. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` passed. The server TypeScript check also passed after the integration fixture was added. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed. - The unit fixture uses the real durable controller serializer and the real executor entry. It stops at current tool authority before provider/backend creation. It proves restoration and guard behavior, not full task acceptance. - Actual protocol RED/GREEN: the same opt-in continuity fixture uses real PostgreSQL, TLS, the current Linux Rust Runner, and a deterministic fake Codex backend. With only the executor restored to its parent revision, continuation fails with `prior_owner_terminal_state_indeterminate` in the settlement guard after one provider turn (20.16 seconds). The PR source completes all three turns with one provider thread and final suspension (34.77 seconds). Hard recovery permits one provider-process replacement; the healthy final follow-up starts no additional process. Both runs use the same Runner binary and owned container. - The exact PR executor source was restored after the baseline comparison, its Git blob was verified, and the worktree is clean. The disposable local container was removed. This fixture proves the controlled stale-projection recovery path; it does not establish a live model or Daytona API result. - Full current-head CI passes, including typecheck, build, general and serialized tests, Rust/Runner checks, all eight E2E shards, and the `ci / e2e` and `ci / verify` aggregate gates. Greptile is 5/5 on the current commit, with no unresolved review threads. No original task was retried and no staging sandbox lifecycle was changed. ## Risks - Admission without a retained owner performs one additional scoped checkpoint read when a full prior-run projection already exists. - The canonical checkpoint must still pass its company, task, session and record validation. A pending canonical command stays held. Current-run and retained owner state are not replaced. - The regression proves a stale local projection defect. It does not establish that a historical incident had those same local bytes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The harness does not expose the exact serving model ID or context-window size. Capabilities: repository inspection, code generation, tools, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): publish fresh retry sessions for later turns (#18713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native tasks save a provider session for later comments and monitor checks. > - The goal projection also records the run that owns the session event sequence. > - A fresh retry uses a new native session, but the projection accepted only the old session. > - The accepted checkpoint then rejected session publication because the goal source still named the old run. > - This pull request lets the current task executor advance that source after a terminal predecessor with no unfinished goal. > - Later turns can then use the fresh retry's saved session. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #12669, #18343. I searched open and closed PRs for source epochs and native task-session publication. I found no duplicate repair. **What happened?** A successful fresh native retry could retain its predecessor's task-session pointer. A later comment or monitor selected the old provider session. The goal source transition required both runs to have the same native session. The terminal checkpoint then saved a `suppressed_newer` publication result. **Expected behavior** The current task executor can publish its accepted fresh session. A later turn resumes that session. Delayed events cannot restore the old source or revive a cleared goal. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Complete a native turn and retain its task-session row. 2. Admit a fresh session on the same task without deleting the row. 3. Complete that turn, then send an ordinary follow-up. 4. Before this change, the saved pointer can still name the first session. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on source commit `36df8933f0` with a PostgreSQL regression before the production change. **Deployment mode** Source checkout. The affected producer runs for local and remote native sessions. ## What Changed - Permit a different native session to advance the goal source only when its run holds the task execution lock and assignee, and the task is in progress. - Keep the terminal predecessor, native runtime, runner identity, absent or completed goal, source sequence, and conversation reset checks. - Test accepted session publication, a fresh heartbeat followed by an ordinary resumed turn, stale events, current-owner loss, and unfinished or unreadable goals. - Add an opt-in live Codex file-persistence check. Update execution documentation and both recovery maps. ## Verification - Red: the new PostgreSQL publication regression failed before the producer change. The saved session, display ID and goal source still named the predecessor. - Green: 72 distinct tests passed across the final focused runs of `runner-goals.test.ts`, `native-task-session-publication.test.ts`, `native-session-resumption.test.ts`, and `remote-warm-session-recovery.test.ts`. - The assembled heartbeat test admits three turns, opens two provider sessions, resumes the second session once, and stores three results. It uses a deterministic provider backend. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed. - Real local Codex acceptance passed on macOS arm64 with `gpt-6.1-sol` and explicit warm mode. Three heartbeat turns saved three exact file lines. The fresh second turn published its new normalized and provider session IDs. The ordinary third turn retained both IDs. The fixture closed its warm owners and removed its private credential copy and workspace. The production code was at `450e15e`; the final test-only commit selects explicit warm mode and uses the existing owned-home cleanup helper. The production change is identical in the final head. - The earlier per-turn fixture preserved all three file steps and selected the correct normalized session, but provider-thread reuse failed. `run.attach` reported that the Codex provider had pending events; the safe fallback used another provider thread. This remains a separate failure. The first fixture cleanup also failed on immutable instruction assets. The owned-home helper fixed cleanup, and the second per-turn attempt exposed the provider identity assertion directly. - Full current-head CI passes, including typecheck, build, general and serialized tests, Rust/Runner checks, all eight E2E shards, and the `ci / e2e` and `ci / verify` aggregate gates. Greptile is 5/5 on the current commit, with no unresolved review threads. Broad local workspace checks were not duplicated; the focused regressions and actual provider acceptance above were run locally. No merge, deployment, or recovery of an original task is included. ## Risks - Source epoch changes affect saved goal state. The fresh-session path requires current task authority and refuses unfinished or unreadable saved goals. - The change starts no provider work and changes no prior-owner recovery guard. Unknown external outcomes retain their reconciliation hold. - A prior session remains held when it lacks the required authority or state proof. - Per-turn provider-thread reuse remains an open coverage gap described above. This change does not alter that attachment guard. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model ID and context window are unavailable in this session. The agent used code inspection, tools, and executable tests. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(daytona): stream files when export copies cannot fit (#18712)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A native task must save its files before finalization can release its writer. > - Remote workspace capture can produce an archive that fits on the sandbox disk. > - Daytona then makes another copy before it downloads that archive. > - The second copy can run out of space and leave completed work behind a save hold. > - This pull request uses the existing bounded stream when that copy cannot fit. > - The benefit is a saved archive without a second archive-sized sandbox allocation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #18644 reduced capture scratch space. #18172 added the disk-free directory export. #18705 preserves provider checkpoints on a full disk and reports capture failures. This change handles the later single-file download copy. It does not depend on #18705 and does not replace its checkpoint fix. **What happened?** A native provider turn returned a successful result and captured its workspace archive. The Daytona outbound file guard then failed with exit 43 and `No space left on device` while it copied the archive to a reserved download file. Finalization and file-preservation retries could not pass this boundary. The workspace kept its writer hold. **Expected behavior** Download an existing archive through a confined sandbox process when its second copy cannot fit. Keep the source and all finalization holds until the normal save commits. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Capture a workspace archive in a Daytona sandbox. 2. Leave less free space than the archive needs for another copy. 3. Finalize the task. The outbound single-file guard fails before download. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `6d72243d8a`. The incident used the native sandbox runtime. This branch is based on current master. **Deployment mode** Cloud with native Paperclip Runner execution and remote workspace storage. ## What Changed - Remove partial outbound file copies after a failed snapshot command. Only copy capacity failures select the stream path. Permission, confinement, and transport errors still fail. - Use the existing acknowledged terminal stream to read each file as the sandbox user. Recheck canonical confinement and regular-file status. Use a no-follow open. Keep the sandbox disk limit, host free-space reserve, shared transfer deadline, and bounded teardown. - Keep host files in private temporary files until the complete batch has transfer receipts. Never pass a mutable live source to the privileged download API. - Add real-file and real-terminal regressions, a disposable Daytona acceptance case, and workspace verification notes. ## Verification - Red before repair: a real 5 MiB copy under a controlled file-size limit failed with exit 43. The same test passes after repair and compares every source and destination byte. - The ten capacity cases pass. They cover producer failure after output, source replacement, stream size limits, permission errors, timeout teardown, cleanup, and a successful retry. A two-file case completes the first stream and fails the second. Both old host files stay intact, both source files survive, and retry saves both files. An isolated early-publication mutation makes that test fail. - The initial complete Daytona package suite passes: 537 tests passed, 8 skipped. After the test-only review follow-up, all 60 focused transfer, stream, and diagnostic tests pass. The package typecheck also passes. - Real Daytona acceptance passes: an owned Ubuntu 24.04 sandbox stops and resumes, a copy to `/dev/full` reports ENOSPC, production export saves the exact archive hash, and a second save after reconnect passes. The test deletes only its disposable sandbox. This is provider-boundary acceptance, not a UI journey. - Assembled finalization acceptance passes with real Postgres and a live Linux x86_64 Daytona sandbox. The production control-plane port accepts one fixture result. The production workspace finalizer encounters the failed copy, saves the files, and commits the task as `done`. A new database client reads the committed result and exact file hash. The workspace has no writer or running save, and there is still one run and one result. No model turn runs. The target resolver is bound to the live provider fixture. Object storage uses the production encryption and local-disk service with an S3 admission label; this does not prove an S3 network transfer or a UI journey. - The live tests used the fixed transfer source with SHA-256 `857b3d8c9ad75170707d95277c17c051ce4582fa79a9c38331d51d2800b36af5`. That source is identical in this PR head. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes locally. The duplicate full local test run passed all six chat shards before it was stopped during the server lane in favor of completed current-head CI; a duplicate local build was skipped. Full current-head CI passes, including typecheck, build, general and serialized tests, Rust/Runner checks, all eight E2E shards, and the `ci / e2e` and `ci / verify` aggregate gates. - Greptile is 5/5 on the current commit with no unresolved review threads. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass. Map checks prove structure only. ## Risks - The fallback requires the Bash and GNU `dd`/`base64` tools already required by the existing stream path. - Terminal streaming is slower than the normal bulk download. It runs only after a copy capacity failure. - The workspace capture itself still needs sandbox space. This change does not fix a full disk before an archive exists. - The test injects a failed copy sink. It does not exhaust a shared host disk. No original task was retried, and no deployment or merge is part of this PR. - No schema, API permission, writer ownership, or retry-budget change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, browser diagnostics, and automated tests. The exact serving variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(opencode): keep native tool calls pending until Runner settlement (#18711)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native OpenCode sends semantic tool calls through the durable Runner protocol. > - The Runner retains a call until its result is known. > - OpenCode and its HTTP bridge each stopped waiting after 30 seconds. > - A slow response could leave a call pending after the provider had moved on. > - A later run then failed the pending-call guard during attachment. > - This pull request keeps native calls under their Runner owner until settlement or cancellation. > - The benefit is one delivered result and a safe next run. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #18343 applies the durable wait policy to native ACPX calls. This change applies that policy to native OpenCode. **What happened?** An assigned tool call took more than 30 seconds. OpenCode reported an MCP timeout while the Runner still retained the request. The source turn could finish, but suspension failed. A later `run.attach` failed because provider tool calls were still pending. **Expected behavior** The native proxy must wait for the authoritative result under the Runner owner. Stop, bridge close, and lease expiry must still end the wait. Unknown effects must still block attachment. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native OpenCode run with an assigned semantic tool. 2. Hold the controller's result for 31 seconds. 3. Observe the provider's MCP result and attach a later run to the session. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `6d72243d8af0362d73fbcb5331fd42a384800d4e`. The branch is based on `36df8933f0`. ## What Changed - The native OpenCode proxy enables a driver capability for durable tool requests. - That capability removes the bridge's separate request timer and sets OpenCode's fixed MCP client ceiling to one hour, consistent with the native ACPX sidecar. - Ordinary driver calls keep their 30-second deadline. Assigned external MCP connections keep their existing budget. - Cancellation, result replay, tool authorization, and the pending-call attachment guard keep their existing contracts. - The native regression holds a result for 31 seconds, then completes a second run with the same Runner process and no pending provider calls. - The deterministic provider fixture honors the emitted MCP budget and retains the initial completion contract across ordinary follow-ups. - Execution semantics and the session verification maps describe the wait and its safety checks. ## Verification - Red before production edits: the bridge aborted a durable request at the ordinary 30-second boundary. The driver emitted `30000` instead of the expected `3600000` client budget. - The final combined bridge, driver, proxy, and native protocol run passed: 95 tests in five files (71.17 seconds). - The native delayed-result probe passed with the current Rust Runner and current bundled proxy. It completed the later run with the same Runner PID and an empty pending-call ledger. - Actual provider check passed on macOS arm64 with `opencode-ai@1.18.34`, the changed source, and a local deterministic OpenAI-compatible model. One assigned write waited 31 seconds and saved one file. Both turns completed. The second turn retained the saved tool receipt. The write ran once across five model requests. - Bridge safety cases cover result replay without another action, ordinary timeout behavior, MCP cancellation, and teardown of an unanswered durable request. - Both runner TypeScript projects passed typecheck. The first attempt lacked the eval-kernel build; it passed after building that declared dependency. - Map alignment, module boundaries, and `git diff --check` passed. - The first native follow-up probe failed because its synthetic provider forgot the initial completion-contract revision. This caused a repair turn and another discovery call. The fixture now retains the contract, and the same probe passed. The failure is retained here. - Runtime acceptance used the implementation at `583d316ad4`. The later clarification commit changes comments, documentation, and a test name only. It does not change runtime behavior. - Full current-head CI passes, including typecheck, build, general and serialized tests, Rust/Runner checks, all eight E2E shards, and the `ci / e2e` and `ci / verify` aggregate gates. Greptile is 5/5 on this commit, with no unresolved review threads. No deployment or retry of the affected historical task was performed. The actual provider check used a local model; it does not qualify a deployed Linux sandbox or a live model service. ## Risks - A native call can wait longer while its Runner owner remains valid. Stop, teardown, and lease expiry still end the wait. The MCP client has a separate fixed one-hour ceiling. Runner ownership can renew beyond that ceiling. If the client deadline expires first, the operation outcome remains unknown and the existing hold must still block replay and run attachment. - This prevents new premature timeouts. It does not classify or replay an old request whose effect remains unknown. - No schema, migration, credential, or permission change is required. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The harness does not expose the exact model ID or context window. Capabilities used: code generation, tool-assisted diagnosis, local execution, and test analysis. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(slack): resolve manager grants during bot setup (#18707)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Slack chat connections let people start and continue work with an
agent.
> - Managed setup reuses a personal Slack workspace authorization to
create and install the bot.
> - The provisioning route passed that Slack grant ID to the generic
tool-grant lookup.
> - A valid workspace therefore failed with a 404 before provisioning
started.
> - This pull request selects the existing Slack grant resolver for
provisioning and validates the request-body ID.
> - The benefit is that saved Slack setup can continue while company and
personal ownership checks remain enforced.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs: #15679, which introduced managed Slack setup.
**What happened?**
Continuing a saved managed Slack draft returned `Connection management
resource not found`. The workspace list and endpoint read both
succeeded. The provisioning POST returned 404.
**Expected behavior**
Continue should use the selected personal Slack manager grant and create
or resume the bot once.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Authorize a Slack workspace for managed bot setup.
2. Create or resume a managed Slack chat connection.
3. Select the saved workspace and choose Continue.
## What Changed
- Select the Slack manager-grant resolver for the managed provisioning
route.
- Accept a validated grant ID from the route parameter or request body.
Enforce the current user's ownership for both board and agent requests.
- Run the existing duplicate-install regression through the HTTP route.
Add HTTP rejection cases for missing, malformed, foreign-company and
other-user grants.
- Document the grant boundary and update the matching feature and
agent-access maps.
The shared authorization guard owns resource resolution and company
checks. Its existing Slack resolver previously handled only the
revocation route parameter. This change extends that resolver to the
provisioning body's grant ID. Generic tool-grant resolution and
deployments without managed Slack keep their existing path.
## Verification
- Before the fix, the HTTP installation regression failed with the same
404 as the browser walkthrough.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t 'managed
Slack'` — 31 passed. Uses real PostgreSQL, production routes and
provider fixtures. The board actor is a fixture; this does not qualify
live Slack or agent authentication.
- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` — passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` — passed. Full local Vitest is
running. [All CI gates

fix(heartbeat): wait for inherited remote workspace writers (#18691)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - A child task can inherit its parent's remote workspace. > - The remote workspace permits one writer until that writer saves its files. > - Reservation reports an active writer as a generic setup failure. > - The existing shared workspace wait does not cover inherited isolated workspaces or a race at reservation. > - This pull request sends verified active writer contention through the existing scheduled retry path. > - The child keeps a live execution path while unfinished files remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native sandbox task inherited an isolated remote workspace from its running parent. Setup failed with `The workspace still has an unfinished writer or save operation.` The child became blocked before provider execution and had no scheduled continuation after the parent saved. **Expected behavior** The child waits for the active writer through the existing workspace retry path. It keeps its workspace binding. A stale writer or a stopped writer with unfinished saves still requires reconciliation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native sandbox task with remote workspace storage. 2. Create a child that inherits its isolated workspace or operator branch while the parent is still writing. 3. Start the child. On the old code, atomic reservation raises a generic setup failure. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed on `410b0e27015495ab8951768b5b0b94727de33785`. Regression reproduced on source based on `554a770c6f8e48e327e19f5208b575a5ec5bce30`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated managed server, external PostgreSQL, native Codex with a Daytona sandbox. The failed attempt stopped before runtime selection or provider startup. Related: #18611 permits inherited remote bindings. #16371 adds waits for reused shared execution workspaces. This repair handles active writer contention at atomic remote reservation. #17156 proposes a separate change to task workspace inheritance. ## What Changed - Return a typed conflict with the exact active writer from the remote reservation owner. Keep company, binding, access, and writer checks in that transaction. - Translate a recent running writer into the existing heartbeat workspace wait. Keep stale, unknown, stopped, dirty, and uncertain save fences. The writer task lookup uses its primary key. - Preserve the admitted assignee role across preparation so reassignment cannot turn an old owner into a guest retry. - Add PostgreSQL regressions for isolated workspaces, operator branches, native writer identity, unchanged saved authority, admission after save, durable retry, Stop, and reassignment before contention reaches the wait handler. - Update the development guide and workspace verification recipes. ## Verification - Red: both inherited isolated/operator preparation cases fail on the old code. They receive `HttpError(remote_workspace_writer_pending)` instead of a workspace wait. No provider or allocation starts. - Green: those same cases pass after the repair. The assembled public heartbeat cases also pass: one scheduled retry owns the task lock, no sandbox lease is created, the original writer and saved authority remain unchanged, and Stop prevents retry promotion. - Ownership race red/green: changing the assignee during preparation produced `wasIssueAssignee: false` before the review fix. The same regression now preserves its original role. A real transaction fault boundary also reassigns the task after reservation rejects it and before the wait handler runs; promotion cancels that retry with `issue_reassigned`. - Test isolation: an initial combined placement cached the synthetic S3 run-log backend and failed twelve later preparation cases. The assembled native tests now have their own process. The ordered reproduction and all four complete affected suites pass after that change: 171 tests, zero skipped. - Four additional saved-file lifecycle cases pass against disposable Docker PostgreSQL 17 with independent filesystem execution and local object storage. They restore inherited shared, isolated, and operator-branch files on a new allocation and retain the second-writer fence. The other 42 cases in that file were outside the selection. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass on the final source. - The earlier `pnpm test:run` passed all six chat shards: 1,828 tests. Its remaining general-server phase was interrupted after final-head CI passed. That local command began before the review fix and is not a complete local full-suite pass. - Final head `096235d8fc80033f92d8de1fcfa9835795ba0456`: 54 successful checks/statuses, three skipped checks, and two neutral checks. None is pending or failed. All build, typecheck, general/serialized tests, Runner checks, and eight browser E2E shards pass in [CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41544310900). The PR is mergeable with no conflicts. - Greptile is 5/5 on that exact head. Its ownership finding is resolved and no review thread remains open. Paperclip Review also reports 5/5 with no findings; its check conclusion is neutral. Its earlier status-conflict recovery completed through the ordinary review request path. - Local environment: macOS arm64, Node 26.4.0, pnpm 9.15.4, isolated native PostgreSQL and the disposable PostgreSQL 17 lifecycle fixture. The acquisition boundary is controlled in the focused preparation cases. No live Codex/Daytona replay is claimed: the local environment and test configuration lack the required test credentials. - No deployment, merge, or original task recovery is claimed. ## Risks - Incorrect contention classification could retry a stopped or unverified writer. Only a running writer with a same-company task and recent activity enters the wait path. Stale and terminal dirty cases retain the conflict. - Retries must not start another executor or release unsaved files. Reservation remains atomic. The tests check unchanged writer authority, no allocation before release, one durable retry, retained binding, Stop, and reassignment before the conflict is caught. - No API schema, database migration, provider configuration, model, credential, trust, or approval changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex. The context window size is not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser diagnostics. No sub-agents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — targeted and chat results are recorded above; the full local command was interrupted - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(files): preserve saved reads during allocation cleanup (#18701)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip saves remote agent work in committed workspace snapshots. > - Files can read that save after the writer finishes. > - Compute cleanup can clear the recorded location while a saved preview loads. > - The current fence treats that physical cleanup as a change to the saved bytes. > - Permit only that one-way location removal for an already verified saved copy. > - Keep all logical-authority checks and live-read fences. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #18677. This fixes the remaining in-flight cleanup race after saved reads began preferring the current committed version. A Files preview can return `422 workspace_changed` when allocation cleanup clears the location during archive loading. The epoch, committed snapshot, source, clean state, and absent writer can all remain unchanged. The extracted copy remains valid. An original QA denial recorded this error eight milliseconds after location cleanup. Its later successful read does not regrade the failed attempt. The original audit does not reconstruct the full earlier authority record. A controlled production-composed regression isolates the same cleanup transition. ## What Changed - Allow the recorded location to become null during a verified saved read while every other parsed authority field stays identical. - Remember observed removal so a reintroduced or foreign location still rejects the read. - Keep live reads, dirty state, active writers, changed epochs, snapshots, and sources fenced. - Add a real `createApp` content-route regression with PostgreSQL, encrypted archive storage, and private-copy cleanup. - Add negative controls for logical changes, foreign and reintroduced locations, and live location removal. - Update developer guidance and the workspace feature/access maps. ## Verification - Red: the production `createApp` route returned exactly `422 workspace_changed` when normal archive loading overlapped location removal. - Green: all 108 Files route and authorization tests passed. The preview returns the saved bytes, and its private extraction is removed. - All 46 opt-in workspace lifecycle tests passed on one owned local PostgreSQL database with local filesystem transport. The database and server were cleaned up. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` passed. - [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41550908692) completed successfully on `45517b474b6866de2de6c618b7ff2193c93038ac` (attempt 2). All PR gates are clean: 55 successes, 3 skips, and 1 neutral review result. The full suite ran in CI; it was not duplicated as a long local full-suite invocation. - [Original CI failure](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41550908692/job/125638034035) is retained: an unchanged mobile frame-sampling check collected 5 frames where more than 5 are required; all sampled geometry was identical. The exact unchanged local Chrome case passed, then one failed-job-only retry passed on the same source. No assertion or time budget changed. - Fresh exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no findings, inline comments, or unresolved threads. The separate Paperclip static review is also 5/5 with no actionable findings. - No deployed acceptance is claimed by these local tests. The original failed QA attempt remains failed. ## Risks This permits one specific transition for an immutable saved copy: the original recorded location can disappear. The company/workspace query, epoch, snapshot, source, dirty state, writer, and location-reintroduction checks remain. A live read still rejects physical location changes. The change does not release compute, change snapshot admission, or alter extraction limits. No schema or API-shape change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex with reasoning and code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific model identifier or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): recover pending Stop cleanup after controller restart (#18682)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server owns execution, Stop delivery, and usage settlement. > - A Stop can remain pending when the controller restarts. > - Recovery must reach the existing session without starting more paid work. > - Startup and budget fences currently block that cleanup, and interrupted runs leave the restart selection. > - This pull request gives exact audited Stop cleanup a shared authority check and records its real acknowledgement. > - The benefit is safe cleanup while usage debt remains honest. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A pending native run-only Stop can retain an unfinished execution owner after controller loss. Its startup cancellation fence prevents recovery admission. If teardown marks the run interrupted and clears its task lock, restart selection also omits it. A recovered session can receive cancellation without the durable acknowledgement that the normal Stop request would save. **Expected behavior** Recover only the existing remote session for the audited pending Stop. Keep fresh provider work blocked, including during budget pause. Keep incomplete usage pending until a real complete receipt arrives. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native run with a held reservation and an authenticated remote checkpoint. 2. Persist a run-only Stop and its startup and execution cancellation fences before acknowledgement. 3. Lose the controller. Leave the coordinator unfinished, mark the run interrupted, and clear its task lock. 4. Attempt restart recovery and observe the missing claim or cancellation admission rejection. Related work: #14733 binds caller Stop requests. #18658 handles plugin startup cleanup obligations. #18035 proposes broader accounting changes. This change repairs existing-session Stop recovery and preserves current accounting guards. ## What Changed - Add one shared check for the exact run, company, issue, pending Stop, intent audit, live recovery lease, generation, and remote reattachment disposition. - Include eligible interrupted Stop owners in restart selection. Keep generic interruptions and another task execution owner fenced. - Reuse only the original held reservation for cleanup. Keep budget pause effective for fresh, bootstrap, dead-runner, and unproven recovery work. - Apply the same cleanup authority at heartbeat runtime selection and native entry. Skip attachment staging and warm-owner retirement only for that exact cleanup. Revalidate at session publication and fail closed if the proof changed. - Send the existing Stop through the audited cancellation producer before turn submission. Close the coordinator only after acknowledgement, including system-owned run-only Stops. - Give verified cleanup a transport purpose that retains pending semantic inputs without replay, dispatch, or a semantic reply. Add an explicit Core retain-only intake mode; preserve authenticated identity, schema, digest, sequence and replay checks. Ordinary execution still requires its dispatcher. - Add PostgreSQL, native protocol, and startup-fence regressions. Update the execution contract and recovery maps. ## Verification - The combined Stop regression fails on unchanged production at the cancellation reservation guard. Interrupted restart selection also fails before the repair while its running sibling passes. - An assembled `heartbeatService.recoverNativeRunsAfterRestart` regression exposes the earlier runtime-selection fence with the rest of the repair present. The fixed path reaches selector/claim, runtime selection, original held-budget reuse during pause, dispatch, real native protocol, audited cancellation, and heartbeat settlement. It starts no provider turn, acquires no new sandbox, and does not reclaim the task lock. - Fail-if-called attachment staging and turn boundaries remain untouched. A retained warm-owner regression prevents retirement. Invalidation at session publication fails closed. Actual backend/driver constructor tests verify cleanup-purpose forwarding, absent default options, and denial under foreign ownership. - Missing usage retains accounting debt and the hold. A later complete receipt records one 25-cent charge and settles that same hold. Concurrent duplicate cleanup is denied. Both user-owned and system-owned Stops pass. - Real transport tests: 9 pass on Node 24.22.1. They preserve ordinary saved-tool and completion recovery, prove the authority-denial race before cancellation, and qualify cleanup with pending ordinary/completion inputs and either handler ordering. - Real authenticated Core intake: 11 pass. Callback-present and callback-absent retain-only cases persist and acknowledge unanswered input without dispatch, recovery or result. Default missing-dispatcher rejection and digest-integrity/suspension guards remain effective. Omitting the callback alone first failed by disconnecting; the explicit retain-only mode fixes that defect. - Repository `pnpm -r typecheck`, the server/runner-vendor build, map checks, and module boundary checks passed locally before integrating the latest retained-startup change. That integration passes 11 native startup/cleanup compatibility cases and 3 assembled recovery/accounting cases. The final broad affected-suite attempt was stopped without a verdict; it is incomplete. Full repository tests and build are delegated to current-head GitHub CI. - Review exposed an additional real-process close failure with unanswered input. The corrected path requires a fresh exact provider-stop receipt confirming exit, followed by durable event drain and exact runner suspension. All 11 focused transport cases pass, including missing/false exit-proof negatives and ordinary recovery siblings. Runner TypeScript and map validation pass after this correction. - The assembled test controls provider, workspace-transfer and GitHub bootstrap I/O. It does not qualify hosted credentials, physical provider termination, workspace preservation, or historical receipt recovery. Local socket-permission setup failures are separate from semantic regression results. No hosted replay has run on this repair. - CI exposed an ordinary factory-call compatibility regression and an obsolete authority-read test fixture. The repair preserves single-argument ordinary calls and updates the race fixture without changing its Stop assertions. The complete native executor suite now passes all 1,049 tests; the ordinary factory boundary and all five Stop-accounting cases pass. A separate local environment-default case twice exceeded its five-second wait while other work ran; its prior-head CI case passed. The same unchanged case passed an isolated diagnostic without changing its assertion or timeout; the precise contention source remains unproven. - The final fixture edit initially used the wrong overloaded promise type. CI rejected it; the annotation-only correction passes the exact `pnpm run typecheck:build-gaps` entry point locally, including server service tests and remaining workspaces. No runtime assertion changed. - Final exact head `007fd4d04a2d6338c6dc073e97ab470a277fc3d0`: required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, build, typecheck and test groups pass. Greptile is 5/5 with both findings resolved. Three expected checks are skipped; the optional native check is neutral, while its final current-head comment gives 5/5 from source inspection without a checkout or test execution. The first server-shard attempt lost its self-hosted runner connection; one scoped rerun passed. Its original annotation and unavailable-log evidence are retained. ## Risks - This changes execution authority. Cleanup requires an audited, exactly bound pending Stop, an unfinished coordinator, a live remote reattachment claim, and the original held reservation. It never authorizes a replacement provider turn. - Missing checkpoint, original held reservation, termination, or usage evidence can keep cleanup or accounting pending. The repair does not manufacture acknowledgement, replies, receipts, or zero cost. - Retain-only intake is an internal trusted constructor option. It changes no agent tool permission. Ordinary callback requirements and semantic dispatch remain unchanged. - No schema, public API, provider profile, or deployment setting changes are required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, Extra High reasoning, with source inspection, code execution, and regression testing. The context-window capacity is not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the bug report template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket ID - [x] I have run affected tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(apps): scope sidebar review counts to one connection (#18688)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their governed app access. > - The Apps sidebar displays a Review badge for one connection. > - It polls the full company attention service every 30 seconds to get two counts. > - That service also loads every profile, rule and active catalog entry. > - This pull request adds an authorized connection read for only those counts. > - The same badge now avoids unrelated profile evaluation and database result decoding. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Current behavior** The contextual sidebar polls company-wide attention. It needs only one connection's signed pending action count and whether any catalog entries are quarantined. **Proposed behavior** Both sidebar variants poll a connection-scoped count endpoint with existing connection read authority. The full attention API stays unchanged. **Reason and benefit** The retained 200-profile fixture performs seven service queries and returns 80,115 rows for this badge. The new reader performs one query and returns one row. This reduces local service CPU and avoids unnecessary decoded profile/rule data. Related merged evaluator fixes are already in the baseline: Refs #18673, Refs #18681. A search found no existing PR for this scoped count reader. ROADMAP.md contains no duplicate planned work. ## What Changed - Add the narrow shared DTO, typed client, guarded REST/OpenAPI route and catalog-owned reader. - Count independent aggregates with both company boundaries and exact signed-argument semantics. Keep archived counts at zero. - Update both contextual sidebar variants. Keep the exact badge, 30 second interval and existing attention-prefix invalidation. - Add PostgreSQL differential tests, authenticated HTTP tests, sidebar tests, a repeatable benchmark and access documentation. ## Verification - Baseline: `3f8ebfff8aa9febd0733c6f65b07485dcadfd0e2`, including both merged evaluator fixes. Service treatment: `0827f7d0b3`; route/fixture refinement: `230c42ee15`; final local existence gate: `390a218254`. - Passed: focused PostgreSQL differential test; assembled HTTP test with board session and agent JWT; 14 sidebar component tests; token gates; map checks; diff check. - Fixture: 200 profiles, 76,000 rules, 1,900 active tools, 695 removed references, 12 agents, a sibling connection and 2,000 unrelated historical invocations. Complete normalized two-count results are equal on both paths. - Quiet local measurement: seven alternating warm pairs after two warmup pairs, Node 24.22.2, macOS, real disposable PostgreSQL. Legacy/new service CPU median: 213.891/1.680 ms; ranges: 209.329–228.552/0.515–6.137 ms. Wall median: 156.867/1.248 ms; ranges: 151.739–162.289/1.115–1.386 ms. Queries: 7/1. Returned rows: 80,115/1. - Run `cd server && node --expose-gc --import ./node_modules/tsx/dist/loader.mjs scripts/benchmark-connection-review-counts.ts`. See `doc/connection-review-counts.md` for scope and failure history. Byte-volume accounting runs outside timing; no HTTP payload reduction is claimed. - Initial raw scalar SQL failed with ambiguous columns. Typed subqueries fixed it and passed real PostgreSQL equality. Initial fixture agents lacked permissions and correctly received 403. The final fixture grants explicit authority and tests revocation. An initial benchmark included byte serialization in timing; the reported run excludes it. - Passed required local `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The initial sandbox typecheck could not open the tsx IPC socket; the escalated rerun passed. Full monolithic `pnpm test:run` was not run locally: repeating a 15–25 minute suite serially across both performance PRs adds no distinct evidence. Broad suite acceptance uses final-head CI, which runs the same general/serialized test partitions and the native Runner lane. Final-head CI is in progress. - Passed built-static Chromium journey on an owned local-trusted server and disposable PostgreSQL: Review 3 appears, only scoped counts are requested by this sidebar, resolving requests/clearing quarantines then reloading removes the badge, and archived counts are zero. The first ad hoc launcher omitted required decision-service options and failed at startup; using the normal no-op wake callback fixed that harness. - Greptile identified an invalid resolved-request fixture label. Corrected `denied` to the declared `rejected`, then reran the real PostgreSQL differential test. The count SQL and non-pending exclusion are unchanged. - The first final-head CI failed the static cross-tenant existence-oracle guard because the new explicit resource company assertion had no nearby `hasCompanyAccess` gate. Existing management admission already rejects foreign resources with 404. The route now also follows the standard local two-step gate. The unchanged guard plus authenticated HTTP negative cases passed (3 tests). No allowlist or test was weakened. - These local service measurements do not prove hosted performance. No deployment is included. ## Risks Low risk. New read admission reuses existing current-authority checks. The old attention API is unchanged. Counts still require database work over relevant pending/catalog rows. No cache, schema migration or telemetry is added. Roll back this PR if the badge differs or scoped reads deny previously permitted users. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` (Sol 6.1), with reasoning, tool use and code execution. The host does not expose the configured context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(apps): scope connection profile configuration reads (#18687)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps Permissions page reads saved access profiles for one connection. > - The page fetched every company profile, rule, and binding. > - It used only the app profile and eligible task-granted profiles for that connection. > - This pull request adds a saved configuration read owned by the profile service. > - The route keeps current connection and per-profile management checks. > - The benefit is fewer database rows, less Node work, and a smaller response for the same displayed configuration. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Server profile configuration reads and the Apps Permissions and Review data caller. **Problem or motivation** One connection page loaded and serialized unrelated company profiles. In the local fixture, this produced a 32.35 MB response with 76,001 rule rows. **Proposed solution** Select the displayed connection's app profile and exact eligible connection-intent profiles before loading their entries and bindings. Return an explicit configuration DTO with complete selected arrays. Keep summary and pending-review work on the existing full API. **Alternatives considered** Filtering the full response in the browser retains the database and Node cost. Truncating the full API would break other clients. Filtering entries to the connection would lose selectors and bindings needed by saves. **Roadmap alignment** This improves the existing governed Apps capability. It does not add a new access policy. Related merged work: #18673 and #18681. Related harness cleanup: #18683. Public PR searches found no duplicate connection configuration projection. ## What Changed - Add `ToolProfileConfiguration` and `GET /api/tool-connections/{connectionId}/profile-configuration`. - Select `app:<connectionId>` at any status and exact active, correctly bound `connection_intent` profiles. Run the existing per-profile visibility filter before configuration queries. - Preserve complete ordered entries and bindings. Keep all save behavior, empty-binding install fallback, and the existing full profile API. - Switch AppDetail and AgentConnectionAccess to the configuration DTO. Use a distinct cache key below the existing profiles prefix so mutation and reconnect invalidations still refresh it. - Add real PostgreSQL differential and authenticated HTTP tests, UI caller coverage, a reproducible benchmark, and access-map documentation. ## Verification Baseline: `3f8ebfff8aa9febd0733c6f65b07485dcadfd0e2`, after both #18673 and #18681. Final head: `b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22`. Current implementation and reproduction details are in [the performance note](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22/doc/performance/2026-11-02-connection-profile-configuration.md). - AppDetail: 79 tests passed. Existing access/action saves, install fallback, grant removal, errors, and refresh cases use the new caller. - Real PostgreSQL differential: passed. Full ordered selected configuration equals the old full-list selection. Cases cover extra bindings, sibling selectors, wrong source/key/status/binding, null and non-string agent metadata, fresh mutations, empty app bindings, visibility filtering, and company scope. - Production HTTP authentication: API key and run JWT cases passed. Hidden personal accounts omit spanning profiles. Private connection reads fail. Restored ownership restores visibility. Revoked management grants deny fresh calls. Final UID canonicalization and foreign-company 404 assertions passed on the current head. - Map structural check, token gate, and `git diff --check`: passed. - Required local `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed on the current head. `pnpm test:run` was started once. Its first chat shard passed (337 tests, 151.87 seconds); the second shard was intentionally interrupted after the complete final-head CI suite passed. This partial local attempt is not a full local test pass. The same stable-runner general and serialized partitions and Runner lanes passed in [final-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41538805231), including aggregate `ci / verify`. No local assertion failures were observed before interruption. - Final-head focused acceptance: four files, 85 tests passed. Full token gates, maps, and module boundaries passed. - Actual browser acceptance passed on the current checkout with isolated real PostgreSQL and a local trusted board. An action saved as Off persisted after reload. Both app agent bindings stayed intact. Removing an agent-only task grant persisted after reload. Requests used only the narrow profile endpoint. No browser exceptions occurred. No responses were mocked. No provider calls or hosted changes were made. The helper stopped the owned runtime and database after the check. - Final exact-head checks: 54 success, one clean neutral Paperclip Review, three skipped, zero pending or failures. Legacy Snyk status: success. No inline review comments. - Greptile reviewed exact head `b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22`: 5/5, no findings, completed successful check. Five alternating unprofiled pairs ran with real PostgreSQL on macOS/arm64, Node v24.22.2, and forced GC. The benchmark measures the service and actual response JSON separately. It excludes HTTP and authorization work through an identity visibility callback. Node CPU does not include PostgreSQL CPU. No hosted or foreground-under-load improvement is claimed. Preserved failures: offline install lacked a locked tarball; frozen online install passed. Sandbox localhost and tsx IPC restrictions blocked initial DB/typecheck attempts; permitted retries use the same checks. The first HTTP suite needed the unbuilt plugin SDK; its owning build helper fixed setup. Shared typecheck caught a missing barrel export, now fixed. A broad typecheck inherited the host's unpinned nested pnpm executable; the owned stalled process was stopped and restarted with pinned pnpm 9. The complete current-head CI suite and aggregate verify passed. The separate Paperclip agent review published 5/5 with no findings at this head and completed with a clean neutral conclusion. An added foreign-company assertion expected 403; the existing guard correctly returned 404. Only the test expectation changed. The first real browser attempt saved and reloaded the action correctly, but grant deletion returned 422: the stress fixture had a company binding, which makes that profile the company default. The UI showed the existing deletion error. The second browser seed used the production agent-only intent shape and passed removal and reload. This does not change the stress fixture or product deletion gates. Initial external browser script attempts also needed an ESM extension and the correct dependency path. Logs, first-failure screenshots, traces, and result files are retained in the local evidence directory. ## Risks - SQL selection must stay aligned with connection-intent eligibility. Differential fixtures cover the exact current predicate. - A selected connection can still have many rules. This change preserves all selected configuration. - Per-profile authorization still reads current selected resources and can add work. Connection visibility does not bypass that check. - No migration, default-allow, effective-access, policy-review, provider, or deployment behavior changes. The old endpoint remains available. Rollback restores the old AppDetail caller and removes the additive endpoint. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with code execution and repository tools. fix(heartbeat): keep remote retry workspace strategy stable (#18660)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip preserves agent work across separate execution services. > - A remote retry can create a new isolated Git workspace. > - Later admissions compare its saved configuration with the current policy. > - Fresh preparation also creates a temporary controller-side strategy. > - Remote preparation saved that temporary strategy in its fingerprint. > - The next unchanged turn then reported a workspace strategy replacement. > - This change saves the admitted remote strategy so unchanged reuse stays stable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related preparation work: #18543 and #17924. I searched open and merged workspace/session repairs and public workspace-strategy issues. None covers this fresh remote retry case. **What happened?** After Retry created an isolated remote Git workspace, each unchanged follow-up reported `workspace_config_freshness` with `action: replace` and `changedCategories: [strategy]`. It retained the same workspace. The stored fingerprint contained `project_primary`, which was only a temporary controller provisioning choice. **Expected behavior** Save the configured remote strategy. An unchanged follow-up must reuse the same workspace without a false replacement report. A real strategy, base-ref, mode or environment change must retain its replacement checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Prepare a fresh isolated remote Git retry with a `git_worktree` strategy. 2. Complete its runtime handoff. 3. Admit another turn with the same workspace policy. 4. Inspect the recorded workspace freshness decision. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `b9e94b85a69bf679818eeef9ecf4655554a89c6b`. The regression also fails on the unchanged preparation code in the current base. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server with remote workspace authority and a sandbox execution target. ## What Changed - Keep the admitted strategy when a fresh workspace uses remote authority. - Retain the temporary controller strategy for existing host-side seed preparation. - Extend the PostgreSQL preparation test through a fresh admission and its next ordinary admission. Assert the same workspace, current writer and stable fingerprint, with no false drift operation. - Cover a genuinely configured `project_primary` fresh remote Git retry followed by a real strategy change, preserving its replacement decision and stored fingerprint. - Document the execution rule and the separate live verification recipe. ## Verification - The final regression was run before and after the production change. Before: the next admission recorded a strategy replacement. After: unchanged reuse records no drift and retains the workspace and fingerprint. - All 312 targeted cases pass on `48b3e548afa42e740871feae2763d88fd5a00431` across workspace preparation, workspace/session policy and inherited session preparation. These include actual strategy/base-ref changes and the rule that explicit reuse must not hide real replacement-class drift. - All eight remote preparation cases also pass with the compatibility regression: a genuinely configured `project_primary` fresh Git retry creates a `git_worktree` row, and its later real strategy change retains the replacement decision and saved fingerprint. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass. - Full recursive typecheck and `pnpm build` pass locally on this head. - The [full current-head CI matrix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41524105868) passes: typecheck/build, all general server, chat, workspace and serialized test groups, plus Runner and E2E checks. The workflow and `run-vitest-stable.mjs` partition the complete suite. - The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` passed all 1,828 chat cases and was intentionally stopped during general-server after the same complete CI matrix passed. This is not recorded as a full local-suite pass. - Greptile and Paperclip Review both assessed this head at 5/5 with no new findings. Paperclip Review accepted the compatibility boundary after the counterexample; its check conclusion is neutral. The addressed review thread is resolved. - The regression uses real PostgreSQL and preparation policy. Runtime acquisition is controlled at its external boundary. The new fix has not been deployed; live provider resumption remains unverified for this patch. ## Risks - Existing incorrect fingerprints are not rewritten. The same stored shape can come from a genuinely configured `project_primary` remote Git retry; a Git workspace row alone cannot prove the old admission policy. Rewriting it would hide a real policy change. After preserving and inspecting retained work, an explicitly admitted fresh recovery after rollout establishes a correct new fingerprint. Ordinary reuse of the old workspace does not migrate it. Normal recovery gates remain required. - Real policy changes still use the current replacement guard. No schema, credential or authority change is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 Codex with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution, PostgreSQL tests and browser inspection. The host does not expose the exact model variant or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): preserve unfinished remote exports before Retry (#18678)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and preserves each task's saved files. > - A completed native result can still need workspace export. > - Remote workspaces now use a different saved descriptor from legacy copyback. > - The execution hold checked only the legacy descriptor. > - Task Retry could admit another run before the original export finished. > - A later failure could then supersede the original recovery record. > - This change keeps unfinished remote exports fenced and permits explicit historical file recovery. > - Recovery keeps human review and newer execution authority intact. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native run completed successfully, but its remote workspace export failed. The recovery action used `native_workspace_sync_out_retry_exhausted`. Task Retry created a second task run while the original files still needed preservation. The newer failure then superseded the original action. A board file-recovery request could queue that cancelled record, but the worker excluded it from discovery. **Expected behavior** Keep Retry behind the unfinished export. Save the exact source and finalize the existing accepted result once. Preserve pending human review. An explicit request for a superseded source must save its files without applying an old result over newer work. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Save an accepted successful native result with a prepared `remoteWorkspace` descriptor. 2. Fail its final export and retain its exact sandbox lease. 3. Select Task Retry before preservation completes. 4. Observe another task run before the original workspace is saved. 5. Supersede the original action and request file recovery for its exact source. Observe queued work that the worker does not select. **Paperclip version** Observed at `1f8f2e195f4897cd1c237bdc068de95780ab0c3c`. The regression is present on current master before this patch. **Deployment mode** Authenticated hosted instance with native Paperclip Runner and remote sandbox workspaces. Related: #18403 introduced the remote workspace path. #18644 reduces export scratch disk use. #17916 covers a separate legacy warm-copyback policy case. This change repairs remote export admission and explicit historical preservation. ## What Changed - Include prepared remote descriptors in the existing native export hold. - Retain remote source identity in the blocker and continuation read projections. - Let the existing worker select a cancelled export-repair record only after an explicit board file-recovery request. Keep the current action and workspace binding unchanged. - Add real PostgreSQL, HTTP, filesystem and Git regressions. Update execution semantics and recovery maps. ## Verification - Red before the admission fix: HTTP Retry creates two task runs instead of one. - Red before the historical-source fix: the explicit recovery stays scheduled and saves no snapshot. - All 588 focused tests pass across the workspace recovery, recovery source, explicit continuation and native export retry suites. The three new integration cases verify duplicate request identity, original result finalization, restored bytes and Git HEAD, pending human review, current-writer exclusion, and preservation without older-result commitment over newer work. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, map validation and `git diff --check` pass. - Full hosted CI passes on `c598718379fa939ec539e8e91a15a94d90321b59`, including all server, workspace, serialized, Runner and browser lanes ([run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41529739604)). Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5 with no findings; there are no unresolved review threads. Paperclip Review also published a complete 5/5 assessment for that exact commit with zero findings. Its check conclusion is advisory/neutral, titled `5/5`. The first attempt lacked a structured assessment; one normal completion request recovered the saved analysis and published the validated assessment. - The local `pnpm test:run` passed all six chat partitions, then was stopped during the general server group after equivalent full CI completed. Its partial log is retained; it is not reported as a completed local full-suite pass. - The test provider boundary uses real temporary files and the production archive path. It simulates provider resume/stop calls. The deployed fix and original hosted task recovery remain unverified until merge and rollout. - The older local Node 24.11.0 runtime failed to load the installed tsx worker. Node 26.4.0 passed the isolated worker check. Required repository checks use an isolated Node 24.22.2 runtime. The earlier failure logs remain recorded. ## Risks - Recognizing another unfinished export can keep previously admitted work waiting. This is intentional until persistence is verified. - Explicit historical recovery can resume the exact stopped sandbox to read files. It retains source, allocation, ownership, writer and bounded-attempt checks. It starts no provider turn. - A newer run still prevents commitment of an older accepted result. This change does not infer that a cancelled run had no external effects. - No schema, credential, deployment or fleet configuration changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context-window size. Reasoning, repository inspection, tool use and code execution assisted this change. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(workspaces): read committed files before live allocations (#18677)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip keeps task files in managed workspaces. > - A final remote save commits a durable snapshot and clears writer authority. > - The old allocation can remain recorded while its transport becomes unavailable. > - Files still tried that live allocation before the accepted saved version. > - This PR reads the validated save when authority is clean and no writer owns it. > - Dirty work and active writers still require the live allocation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #18403 introduced remote Files access. #18665 fixes a separate completion-settlement issue and is included in the base. **What happened?** A file preview returned `422 workspace_unavailable` after a remote task had saved its files. Its clean authority still had a live location. The same original bytes were readable from the committed save after that location cleared. The exact original live transport failure is unknown. **Expected behavior** Once the workspace is clean and has no writer, Files reads its exact current committed save. A retained location must not make accepted files depend on remote command execution. **Steps to reproduce** Create a real committed workspace archive. Keep its allocation active in the recorded authority. Clear dirty state and writer authority. Make live execution unavailable, then request the ordinary file preview route. Before this fix it returns 422. After this fix it returns the saved bytes without a provider command. ## What Changed - Select the saved-file loader before consulting a live location when authority is clean and has no writer. - Keep exact company, workspace, snapshot, archive, and authority-change checks. - Keep the live path for dirty work and active writers. Never substitute their older saved bytes. - Cover browse, resolve, preview, download, rejection controls, and saved-copy cleanup through real routes and storage. - Document the selection rule and update its feature and access-map recipes. ## Verification - Red: the new ordinary-route regression expected HTTP 200 but received 422 against the old service. - A separate compatibility control reproduced the optional-loader regression. Valid live reads still work when the loader is absent; no-location reads still fail, and a configured invalid save never falls back to live bytes. - Green: 98 ordinary file-route and authorization tests passed with real PostgreSQL and archive storage. - All 46 opt-in remote workspace lifecycle tests passed against one owned local disposable PostgreSQL database. Its database, server, and files were cleaned after the run. No live S3 or provider flags were enabled. - Full workspace typecheck passed after the optional-loader compatibility repair. Full build passed locally before that narrow repair. All normal CI checks pass on the current head, including build and server suites. The separate Paperclip Review job and the full local test suite remain in progress. - Feature/access-map validation and `git diff --check` passed. - A read-only staging check preserved and verified the original saved bytes. It did not rerun the agent or qualify the failed journey. The fixed active-location path has local regression evidence; deployed acceptance is pending. ## Risks A clean workspace now uses the existing bounded saved-archive loader while a location remains recorded. Each Files request can retrieve and extract that archive. Existing disk, size, concurrency, cancellation, and cleanup bounds remain. A dirty workspace or current writer still uses live files and fails closed when they are unavailable. This change neither releases compute nor changes access permissions. It does not identify the original provider RPC subreason. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The runtime does not expose a more specific model identifier or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): recognize verified task document evidence (#18661)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and keeps their results attached to tasks. > - Native tools return links to saved task documents. > - Completion feedback asks agents to include those links. > - The file-delivery validator treated every such relative link as a workspace path. > - A valid document and CSV result could therefore fail completion when it cited the supplied document link. > - This change derives document links from the same verified publication projection for guidance and validation. > - Requested files still need their own verified delivery evidence. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The native document tool and completion feedback produce a link such as `/EX/issues/EX-1#document-output`. When a task also requests a downloadable CSV, citing that link causes completion to reject it as a workspace-only file. This occurs even when the document is published and the file has a valid current-run delivery receipt. **Expected behavior** Accept a server-derived document link only when it names the current company/task and a currently attached revision with a matching native publication receipt. Keep the separate requested-file requirement and all foreign, stale, missing, and workspace-file guards. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Save a task document through the native `write_document` tool. 2. Publish a CSV through `register_deliverable`. 3. Ask completion feedback for the final-response guidance. 4. Cite its returned document link alongside the file receipt in the next completion report. 5. The old validator rejects the valid document link as a workspace-only file. **Paperclip version or commit** Current source checkout. The regression exercises the real native document producer and completion validator. **Deployment mode** Local source verification on macOS arm64 with Node 24.22.1, pinned pnpm 9.15.4, locked dependencies, temporary PostgreSQL, and a controlled remote file-reader boundary. No live provider or hosted deployment is included. ## What Changed - Derive the canonical document href in the existing company/task/current-revision publication query. - Use that same verified href in completion guidance and reference validation. - Keep file registration and hash/size receipt requirements separate from document evidence. - Cover evidence, artifact, and criterion references; foreign companies/tasks; bogus keys; local paths; and lost current-revision publication proof. - Exercise actual native document writes and CSV registration, including attachment download query and fragment links. - Update the execution contract and the document feature/access maps. ## Verification - Red before the production edit: native completion generated a real saved-document link, then rejected the same link alongside a valid published file. The failure was the workspace-only-file guard. - Green: 210 tests across native completion feedback, explicit output validation, and the existing native file-handoff suite pass. These use real PostgreSQL and native tool receipts; the remote file reader is controlled. - A saved document link alone still fails the explicit CSV requirement. A document whose current revision lacks its publication receipt is rejected. Foreign task/company links, missing keys, malformed links, and workspace paths remain rejected. - Full workspace typecheck, server typecheck, and production build pass. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass. Map checks establish structure only. - Full `pnpm test:run` is running separately. There is no full-suite verdict yet. CI and review are pending. - Hosted acceptance and any recovery of existing tasks remain separate steps. This PR does not change final-response recovery or scheduling. ## Risks - An overly broad URL exception could admit foreign or unpublished output. The validator accepts only exact hrefs from the authenticated publication projection. - Document evidence could hide a missing requested file. A separate regression keeps that delivery gate effective. - The shared projection adds current task/company joins. Existing document feedback and publication tests cover those consumers. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex, with reasoning, code editing, shell execution, and automated tests. The context-window size is not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): load permissions and show AI account identity (#18653)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their access to saved connections. > - The Permissions page loads account details and permitted agent choices. > - Company-wide AI accounts repeat retained installation checks for every candidate agent. > - This makes target checks grow with the square of the roster size. > - The browser waits without a deadline, and connection names do not identify the provider login. > - This pull request batches direct AI checks and bounds loading with recovery controls. > - Account details load separately and show a provider email or an explicit profile-permission limit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Opening a saved AI account can leave Permissions on “Loading AI account…” for minutes. The account itself can be connected. The existing capability batch excludes AI connections, so a company-wide install repeats checks for every installed agent for every candidate. Saved names and Paperclip ownership also do not establish which provider login a credential uses. **Expected behavior** Direct AI accounts reuse retained-target checks within one descriptive request. The page shows loaded account controls or a bounded failure with Retry. Permissions shows the provider email and organization when the selected credential permits profile access. An unavailable profile must not block maintenance or disconnect a working inference credential. Writes still authorize current permissions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Save an AI account in a company with several agents. 2. Install the account company-wide. 3. Open its Permissions page. 4. Delay the account-list or grants response to exercise the loading failure. The maintained benchmark reproduces database work with synthetic local data. Refs #17945, which added batching for non-AI connections. Searches found no open PR for this AI-account loading fix. ## What Changed - Include direct AI accounts in the existing board capability batch. Referenced pool members, delegated actors, complex selectors, and mutation authorization keep their existing evaluator. - Add opt-in per-caller GET deadlines to the API client. A timed-out caller detaches the stuck coalesced request so Retry starts a fresh fetch. Other callers retain their own cancellation and results. - Apply a 15-second deadline to AI account lists and grants reads. The permissions view retries transient failures once and reports other failures immediately. - Share the parent Permissions grants query with AI account details. Keep loaded controls visible after a background error and offer Retry. - Add a grant-scoped identity GET and OpenAPI contract. The service checks current membership and credential audience before it reads the selected credential. It projects only the provider email and organization; provider IDs, tokens, and raw errors stay private. - Show account details independently of maintenance controls. Anthropic profile denial has an explicit message and preserves connected status. Transient profile failures have a separate Retry action. Observations are cached for five minutes under the company, connection, grant, and grant revision. - Extend real PostgreSQL and authenticated HTTP coverage, client/component regressions, map guidance, and the existing benchmark's AI mode. - Address the Apex file-size finding by moving gallery identity lookup into the existing app display helper module. `AppDetail.tsx` is 984 lines; lookup behavior is unchanged. ## Verification Local source checkout on macOS, Node 25.6.1, pnpm 9.15.4, and disposable PostgreSQL 18.1. Provider calls use fixtures. No hosted deployment or provider qualification is claimed. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. - Passed all 87 tests in `connection-management.integration.test.ts` and all 33 tests in `connection-install-capabilities.test.ts`. - Passed 196 AI connection, identity-provider, and OpenAPI tests: `ai-connections.test.ts`, `ai-account-identity.test.ts`, and `openapi-routes.test.ts`. - Passed 107 focused UI/client tests: `client.test.ts`, `ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx`, `AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx`, and `AppDetail.test.tsx`. - After the Apex extraction, passed UI typecheck/build and 106 component tests across `AppDetail.test.tsx`, `AppNotConnected.test.tsx`, `ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx`, and `AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx`. - The authenticated HTTP tests compare complete grants responses across human roles, for tool and AI connections. They verify a real install mutation succeeds before revocation and fails afterward. - A company-wide personal AI fixture checks 20 targets instead of 400. Pool-member permission loss still denies the complete pool description. - UI states covered: shared cached grants, stuck account/grants fetches, one automatic retry, terminal failure, manual recovery, authorization failure, background failure with retained controls, and unmount cancellation. Client tests also cover stalled response bodies and independent coalesced callers. - Identity coverage includes actual bearer-key/JWT reads, private-user and cross-company denial before provider access, revoked credentials, provider 401/403/429/500, and grant-change isolation. A real local HTTP fixture stalls the response body, verifies the shared 15-second deadline, and keeps unrelated HTTP requests responsive. The test shortens the native deadline to 100 ms. Profile permission denial leaves the saved account connected. - Passed `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs`, and `git diff --check`. - The full local `pnpm test:run` started with the loading-only change. All six chat shards passed. It recorded one failure in the unchanged `heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts` quota-rejection case. That exact case passed a focused rerun on the final head. The initial failure cause remains unconfirmed and its local log is retained; this is not a full local-suite pass. The redundant local run was stopped with SIGINT after final-head CI completed successfully. - [Final-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41515556725) passed on `ead8d276d4a2023614fff54b3e9a858f28c3178b`: typecheck, build, all 12 server shards, all 3 chat shards, workspace suites, all 9 serialized suites, all 8 end-to-end shards, Runner checks, and the aggregate verify gate. Security checks passed. Optional Storybook checks were skipped by workflow policy. GitHub reports the branch mergeable without conflicts. - Apex reviewed head `ead8d276d4a2023614fff54b3e9a858f28c3178b` at 5/5, confirmed the extraction resolves its earlier file-size finding, and has no unresolved review threads. The existing benchmark ran for the loading-only change now recorded in commit `5f725b36fa52002545241a5a8b7a10602f0cc0ce`, with `--purpose=ai --baseline-ref=026fd9e3452`. The identity follow-up leaves that batch source unchanged. Two warmups and five alternating samples exercise each of eight fixture shapes. Complete positional capabilities, reasons, and operations match the baseline in every sample. | AI fixture | SQL calls before → after | Target reads before → after | | --- | ---: | ---: | | 1 agent, company install | 9 → 9 | 1 → 1 | | 32 agents, company install | 5,248 → 164 | 1,024 → 32 | | 100 agents, company install | 50,400 → 504 | 10,000 → 100 | | 100 agents, partial install | 13,175 → 503 | 2,575 → 100 | These counts measure the real service over local PostgreSQL. They do not predict hosted page latency. To reproduce the standalone benchmark, use a checkout of commit `5f725b36fa52002545241a5a8b7a10602f0cc0ce` and run the command below. Its isolation check intentionally rejects the later identity follow-up's additional runtime changes. ```sh node --import ./server/node_modules/tsx/dist/esm/index.mjs scripts/benchmark-connection-install-capabilities.ts --purpose=ai --baseline-ref=026fd9e3452 ``` Run the final-head regression suites from the repository root: ```sh cd server pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/connection-management.integration.test.ts src/__tests__/connection-install-capabilities.test.ts src/__tests__/ai-connections.test.ts src/services/ai-account-identity.test.ts src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts cd ../ui pnpm exec vitest run src/api/client.test.ts src/components/ai-connections/ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx src/components/ai-connections/AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ``` ## Risks Descriptive permissions reuse retained facts within one request. A concurrent change can leave a displayed choice stale; the next request and every write still authorize fresh. Pools with referenced members retain their existing cost. The account and grants clients now bound each caller's wait. A browser abort does not cancel an authorization read already admitted by the server. The independent profile request uses a fixed Anthropic origin, a bounded body, no redirects, and a 15-second deadline. Inference-only credentials can return no email; that is reported without guessing from a Paperclip owner or changing connection health. Profiles are fetched only for the caller's authorized selected grant. No ambient CLI identity, persistent identity cache, background polling, or billing-identity change is added. Other API reads keep their existing behavior. No migration is required. Staging has not been redeployed. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through the Codex harness in T3 Code, with xhigh reasoning, code editing, execution, and test tools. fix(native): preserve warm continuity and deferred review replies (#18631)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their saved work. > - Product E2E tests must check saved personal files across separate turns. > - The server records file collection in the durable `instruction_save` run-log event. > - The warm test read optional terminal result metadata instead and rejected a recorded successful save. > - This pull request reads the complete event stream for the current run and uses its latest save receipt. > - The prompt now specifies the exact nine bytes required by the temporary-file transfer count. > - Human review actions select the actual interaction card, which can share its interaction ID with a navigation button. > - A later real three-turn run exposed a missing reply after workspace finalization moved to its durable recovery owner. > - Reply recovery handled completed tasks but omitted ordinary tasks that awaited review. > - This pull request also publishes their recorded final reply once while preserving the pending review. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The [retained live continuity attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41477302876/job/125420001074) saved the correct memory file and unchanged 8 MiB binary. Its durable run log contained a successful `instruction_save` receipt. The oracle read `resultJson.instructionSave`, which was absent, and failed before turn two. The temporary file also had a trailing LF. Its prompt allowed that result, while the byte-count check required nine bytes. **Expected behavior** The oracle must use the documented authoritative save event. A missing receipt, a later failed save, incorrect transfer counts, or another run's events must fail. The prompt must specify the bytes that its independent check requires. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run `daytona-warm-continuity.runner-codex.daytona.warm-three-turn` with the configured protected credentials and immutable image. 2. Complete a native turn whose terminal result has no `instructionSave` field. 3. Compare the oracle output with the same run's successful `instruction_save` event. A subsequent [three-turn attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41495337334/job/125451304553) passed every personal-file assertion and reused the same warm process. Its first final reply was recorded as a completed agent-message event but was absent from comments. The log shows `native_workspace_finalization_busy`; the durable recovery path excluded `needs_review` replies. The final message matcher correctly failed. This failure remains recorded. The observed application revision was `aab87ce70744660a4a21c77278b0ede267c04720`. Related work: #14695 and #18494. The retained failed result keeps its original grade and definition. ## What Changed - Read all run-event pages through the existing bounded collector. - Require events to belong to the requested run and select the latest `instruction_save` event. - Retain strict byte counts and reject missing, failed, pending or superseded receipts. - Specify nine ASCII bytes and no trailing newline for the temporary file. - Scope human review actions to the interaction card and its exact interaction ID. - Advance the warm suite definition to version 5 and document its evidence source. - Recover recorded final replies for ordinary native tasks with an accepted `needs_review` result and terminal state. - Preserve pending reviews, existing reply selection, company/turn/digest checks and external governed-response authorization. - Update the task feature and agent access maps. ## Verification - Real PostgreSQL regression: deferred review reply discovery failed before the production repair (expected one candidate; found zero). The final-message event and pending review were present. - Recovery cases cover one publication, no repeated provider run, unchanged review, and rejection of absent/wrong-turn final messages, bad digest and suppressed comments. - Red: seven new boundary regressions failed against the old receipt lookup. - Green: 169 focused oracle, event pagination and catalog checks passed. Product E2E typecheck passed after rebuilding local package declarations. - Retained-evidence replay confirms that the new lookup finds the real successful save event. The original attempt remains failed because its temporary file included an LF. - Recursive typecheck passed before the final recovery change; server typecheck passed afterward. The recovery and control-plane suites passed all 112 tests. Full build and map checks passed. - The broad local test run reached one unrelated 30-second timeout in `attention-retention-work.test.ts` (maintained-review/confirmation batching). The same unchanged case then passed on one targeted retry (39.9 seconds including module load). The original failure remains retained. The broad run also reported one unchanged workspace-conflict case, which passed on its targeted retry (14.85 seconds including module load). Both original failures remain retained. The redundant broad local run was stopped after current-head CI completed all required gates: 55 successful checks and 3 selection skips. No all-green local broad-run claim is made. - The separate artifact-transfer cell already passed on the recorded application revision: independent source and delivered bytes matched at 407,485 bytes, with a completed task, succeeded native run and cleared execution locks. This does not establish a three-turn continuity pass. - [Real native three-turn acceptance](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41499102994/job/125465795210) **passed** at `3b207a42943e9eeb371d4f2d5623de72093eb6d5`, suite definition 5. Turn one exercised `committed_task_response_recovered`. All three completed final replies were persisted once and in order. All three strict personal-file receipts passed. The unchanged 8 MiB binary survived; later transfers copied only 36 and 54 bytes. The lease was created, resumed, and resumed with the same runner PID/start time, runner instance, native session and provider session. Final task was `done`, all three runs succeeded, and checkout/execution locks were null. - The aggregate startup summary has no separate provider-process PID proof. The raw run records independently prove the stable runner process and provider session stated above. This single native cell does not qualify the legacy cell or a full provider matrix. - The passing campaign reused the signed immutable runner image. It required no disk expansion. Earlier campaign image builds used the recorded temporary 120 GiB mitigation; default 60 GiB build capacity remains unqualified. All scoped completed probes were removed and independently returned 404; org CPU/disk usage returned to zero. This does not resolve unknown historical resources under a different credential identity. - Current-head Greptile is 5/5; review-thread pagination is complete with zero threads. All 55 current-head checks are successful; 3 selection checks are skipped. The paid campaign, result enforcement and report publication all completed successfully. ## Risks - Publishing a reply must not approve the work. Recovery only copies the accepted turn’s completed final message. It preserves the pending review and does not start an executor. - Conversation and external governed-response paths retain their existing separate authorization. The latest save event can record failure after an earlier success. The oracle rejects that case. Event pagination, missing receipts and cross-run evidence also fail closed. The exact temporary-file byte count remains required. The review selector still requires the intended interaction ID and enabled action on its actual card. The production change is limited to ordinary internal-task reply recovery. It still requires an accepted result, a matching successful terminal disposition, the completed final message, and existing publication authority. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with shell and code tools. The exact deployment variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(workspaces): reduce temporary disk use during remote capture (#18644)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and preserves their completed work. > - Native remote finalization must save workspace files before it releases the writer. > - Portable capture copied the working tree and Git history, repacked the history, and then wrote an archive. > - These temporary copies can exhaust a small sandbox after normal development work. > - A completed provider turn then fails finalization and file preservation repeats the same failure. > - This change streams checked working files and keeps only an independent Git copy in scratch. > - The save still rejects changed sources and incomplete output. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #18403 added portable remote workspace storage. #18172 handles disk pressure in Daytona directory transfer. This failure occurs earlier, while the portable archive helper creates its source archive. That earlier repair does not cover this path. **What happened?** A completed native run failed workspace finalization three times. Its file-preservation retries also failed. In a retained 10 GB Linux sandbox with about 1.5 GB free, the deployed helper failed during `git repack -a -d` with `Out of diskspace`. The working files used about 603 MB, and Git used about 444 MiB. **Expected behavior** Capture a coherent workspace when free space can hold one full archive plus an independent Git copy. Preserve working files, staged changes, unpushed commits, and existing recovery gates. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Use a disposable Linux sandbox with a Git repository and generated working files. 2. Leave enough free space for an archive and a Git copy, but not a second working tree and another repack. 3. Run the portable capture helper. The old helper fails while creating temporary data. 4. Run the fixed helper against the same source and free-space limit. Verify each archived file hash. The small regression uses real file serialization and a controlled filesystem capacity failure at archive creation. It failed with `ENOSPC` before the production edit and passes afterward. **Paperclip version or commit** The observed staging server served `42c64d4ec4b9b0898556fcdf6ba304c4285a7819`. The repair is based on `a92f616cd0`. **Deployment mode** Hosted staging. Linux x64, Node 25.9.0, Daytona sandbox. Local tests use a macOS source checkout. ## What Changed - Stream working files from checked file handles. Keep only normalized Git metadata in scratch. - Remove the second repack after a mirror clone that already uses `--dissociate` and `--no-hardlinks`. - Check each streamed file's hash, size, mode, and filesystem identity. Recheck the source inventory and Git state before returning a receipt. - Remove incomplete archives after failure or cancellation. Keep pre-existing archive files intact. - Add space-limit, concurrent-change, cancellation, and existing-file safety cases. Update execution semantics and workspace verification recipes. ## Verification - Red before the production change: the capacity regression failed with `ENOSPC`. Green afterward: 54 archive and transport tests pass. - The existing tests restore ordinary, linked, and borrowed Git repositories after their sources disappear. They retain staged, unstaged, and unpushed work. Credential and path guards also pass. - Live comparison on the same retained sandbox: the deployed helper failed after 19.4 seconds with Git disk exhaustion. The fixed helper completed in 35.3 seconds. It produced a 1,081,872,803-byte archive with 24,111 entries. An independent reader checked every archived file hash and the manifest digest. The source commit stayed unchanged. Diagnostic scratch was removed. - This live probe exercised the changed capture boundary. It did not deploy a server, upload a production snapshot, finalize the failed run, or replay its provider turn. Full task recovery still needs rollout and the normal export recovery path. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass. - Current-head CI passes: [PR workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41499985180), commit `d42700f7f4b0bef14a5969a44c2da0b2513e0ed2`. Greptile rates the same head 5/5 with no actionable findings or unresolved threads. - The independent Ponytail advisory also rates this exact head 5/5 with no findings. Its structured check remains queued because the automatic request was bound to the earlier head. A [fresh current-head review request](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18644#issuecomment-6585296011) was accepted and queued. Its predecessor has a successful workspace export but remains active in finalization, so the new review cannot start yet. This review-service publication gate must complete before claiming every check is green. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The final server-only typecheck also passes after the test additions. - Supported-runtime verification on Node 24.11.0: all 54 archive/transport tests and all 46 existing workspace lifecycle tests pass. The lifecycle suite uses a disposable real Postgres database and local filesystem transport with encrypted snapshot storage. It checks save/restore after losing the original allocation, ownership, retention, and file continuity. This is separate from the live Daytona capture probe. - The first extra lifecycle attempt could not start its local Postgres binary because the installed Darwin package lacked library aliases. Local dependency setup was repaired before the passing run. No production or repository code changed for that setup. - The full local `pnpm test:run` on the host default Node 26.4.0 stops in chat-test collection with `No test found ... in lines ...`; it has no suite verdict. A clean retry repeats the failure. The unchanged `a92f616cd0` test wrapper reproduces it with the same installed dependencies, after correcting an initial baseline setup that lacked built package entries. This is a local test-runner limitation, not a full local pass. Current-head CI remains the full-suite gate. - One focused run timed out while deeply comparing 4 MB buffers under concurrent build load. Complete SHA-256 comparisons retain the content check without that assertion cost. The capacity case then passes in under one second, and the final 54-test run passes. The disk allowance and production code did not change. ## Risks - Streaming reads the live source instead of a copied working tree. File identity, content hashes, mode checks, the final inventory read, and Git signatures must reject concurrent changes. Regression tests exercise these checks. - Capture still needs space for the full archive and normalized Git metadata together. It cannot export from a completely full disk. - Archive framing and restore validation stay compatible. The change has no database migration or new execution authority. - The incident remains unrecovered until the fixed server performs normal workspace finalization. No deployment or merge is included in this PR. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, browser diagnostics, and automated tests. The exact serving variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): handle blank assigned-tool schema references (#18637)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Native agents discover assigned app tools through a governed
gateway.
> - OpenCode receives search and call tools instead of the full app
catalog.
> - A blank optional schema reference selected schema lookup instead of
search.
> - Agents received an unknown-tool error and could abandon valid app
access.
> - This pull request treats blank references as search and explains
invalid schema requests.
> - Agents can find their assigned tools while the gateway keeps its
access checks.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
An agent called `paperclip_search_assigned_tools` with
`{"query":"github","schemaTool":""}`. The server tried to find a tool
with an empty name. It returned `assigned_mcp_tool_unknown` instead of
search results. The agent then reported that its GitHub tools were
missing.
**Expected behavior**
A blank optional schema reference must permit normal tool discovery. A
bad schema reference must explain how to search again.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Assign an app tool to a native agent that uses on-demand discovery.
2. Search with `{"query":"github","schemaTool":""}`.
3. Observe the unknown-tool error instead of the assigned tool.

fix: retry saved chat input after a successful run (#18621)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and the work they receive. > - Connected conversations save incoming requests before they can run. > - A request can remain queued when the previous turn finishes successfully. > - Task Retry sent that case through the failed-run retry guard, which rejected the successful run. > - This change resumes the saved request through its existing admission owner. > - The operator can continue saved work while preserving the prior result and current permissions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Task Retry returned a conflict for a restricted connected conversation when its latest run succeeded and newer input remained saved. A GitHub review can reach this state when a new PR head arrives during the previous review. The prior review cannot publish against the new head, but its completed turn is not a failed run that can be replayed. **Expected behavior** Retry should resume the saved request with its original source identity and current authorization. It must preserve the previous successful result and must not replay that turn. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a review through a restricted GitHub endpoint. 2. Send a PR synchronize event while that review runs and retain its deferred input receipt. 3. Let the original run finish successfully with the task still open. 4. Click Retry. Before this change, the failed-run guard rejects the request. With this change, the saved input creates one successor through normal admission. Related work: #17725, #16965, #15033. ## What Changed - Select the newest saved input by its canonical chat action and wake receipt. - Store its receipt ID in the task retry intent and resume it through the existing chat owner. - Preserve caller permissions, source authorization, task state, agent state, cleanup waits, and duplicate-click handling. - Exclude saved-input intents from generic board-message replay. Keep board messages in separate queued receipts and allow independently saved input after successful board turns. - Add signed webhook, HTTP endpoint, accepted-result preservation, and refusal tests. Update execution semantics and capability maps. Stabilize the existing Teams lifecycle test with explicit database result ordering. ## Verification - Current-head [CI passes](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41482727909): 54 successful checks, one neutral review, three expected skips, and a successful Snyk status. Greptile gives commit `53f02e9105` 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - Reproduced the original HTTP 409 before the fix. Reproduced both review findings with three failing cases before fixing them. - Passed 25 focused and related GitHub retry cases, 52 ordinary queue tests, and three native startup cases against disposable PostgreSQL. Earlier related verification also passed 83 GitHub retry cases and 109 recovery/receipt cases. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and the module boundary check. The final server typecheck passed after the review fixes. - The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt stopped on an existing Slack queue deadline assertion with a 1 ms database/host clock difference. That case passed in isolation. A second attempt was stopped when review changes superseded its source. Full local completion is not claimed; all chat, server, browser, build, and runner CI jobs passed on the final commit. - The runner CI job needed one rerun after a two-second startup timing assertion failed. That case and its two related cases passed locally; the rerun passed without code changes. - Live GitHub review publication with this patch is not verified. The signed provider fixture uses mocked GitHub responses. This branch is not deployed. ## Risks - This changes how Retry dispatches deferred external input after a successful run. It relies on the existing inbound owner to recheck source authority before execution. - Tests cover paused connections and agents, changed source bindings, completed tasks, pending cleanup, duplicate clicks, and preservation of the accepted result. - No schema migration or public API shape change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact deployed model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): show scheduled task waits as Monitoring (#18624)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Task indicators tell an operator whether work is active, waiting, or
complete.
> - An agent can yield until a saved monitor checks CI or another
external result.
> - The task currently keeps the In Progress icon between those runs.
> - Changing the stored status would affect monitor admission and
recovery.
> - This pull request adds a read-only Monitoring display state with a
blue clock.
> - Operators can see and filter scheduled waits while execution keeps
its existing rules.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
Task status indicators, task collection filters, board columns, and
search facets.
**Current behavior**
A task that waits for a scheduled monitor shows the same In Progress
icon as active work.
**Proposed behavior**
Show Monitoring with a static blue clock when an agent-owned task has a
saved ordinary monitor and no active run, execution lock, review
participant, or active recovery action. Return to the normal task
indicator when the check starts. Preserve review, blocked, terminal, and
quota-recovery states.
**Reason and benefit**
Operators can distinguish scheduled waits from current agent work
without reading the task history.
**Breaking changes**
None to stored task statuses or execution rules. Task reads gain
optional displayStatus. Collections and search gain a separate read
filter. Existing status filters keep their lifecycle meaning.
Related historical work: #4396 covered a monitoring label exemption.
This change uses the saved monitor and a read projection.
## What Changed
- Add one SQL projection for task detail, compact lists, summaries,
relations, search results, and display-status counts.
- Show the blue clock in shared task icons and chips, task detail and
breadcrumbs, properties, references, list rows, recent navigation, and
agent task cards.
- Add Monitoring to task filtering, grouping, sorting, board columns,
and search facets. Prevent a drag from creating this derived state.
- Keep stored lifecycle statuses, monitor scheduling, checkout,
recovery, permissions, and agent status filters unchanged.
- Add database and UI regression coverage, full-page Storybook examples,
and product and access-map documentation.
## Verification
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`.
- Passed `pnpm build`.
- Passed `pnpm check:token-gates` and the map/catalog structural checks.
- Ran the new database suite on a disposable PostgreSQL 17 database. It
covers read surfaces, filter pagination/counts, queued/running checks,
rescheduling, completion, retained monitors, review, and recovery holds.
- Ran existing search, list, board, sidebar, task status, and filter
tests. Corrected board queries use displayStatus and eight columns.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` stopped in a chat integration shard: 12
failures (four timeouts and eight FIFO publication assertions). That run
spanned a rebase. A focused rerun on the current source passed all 21
selected cases without assertion or timeout changes. The original cause
is not established; this does not claim the full local suite passed.
Final-head required CI passed (ci / verify and ci / e2e, run
41488267209).
- Passed 82 tests for task API summaries, recovery precedence, search,
and optimistic updates; 54 tests for status cards, database reads, and
board moves; and 27 tests for blocker relations and recent-task cache
updates. One intermediate database setup hit its 20-second hook timeout;
the serial rerun passed.

fix(server): stop goal-less native runs before board task closure (#18616)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A task owns its active run and its tool access. > - A board user can close a task while that run is still working. > - The task update route stopped native runs only when they had an active session goal. > - Providers without goals kept running after the route cleared task ownership. > - This pull request stops those native runs before a board closure releases ownership. > - The benefit is an orderly stop instead of tool denials and failed finalization. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A board user marked a task Done while its native OpenCode run was active. The route cleared its execution lock without stopping the provider. Later tool calls failed with `paperclip_runner_tool_binding_not_authorized`. The final wake fence then failed with `native_current_wake_comments_binding_changed`, leaving workspace finalization in retry. Cancelled also released ownership before its later Stop call. **Expected behavior** A board closure must confirm native Stop before it releases task ownership. A failed Stop must leave the task open. The provider does not need to support session goals. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native task with a provider that has no active session goal. 2. Mark the task Done while its run is active. 3. Observe that the old route updates the task without cancelling the run. ## What Changed - Reuse the existing audited cancellation path before a board user marks an active native task Done or Cancelled. - Keep the existing 409 response when Stop is unconfirmed. - Record the board user in the Stop metadata. The existing acknowledged-Stop policy then leaves queued input and recovery quiet until a later explicit wake. - Inspect additional runs only when a task has an execution owner; tasks without a run lock keep their existing completion path. - Keep native semantic completion, legacy completion, and goal control behavior. - Add route regressions for stop ordering, failed Stop, and legacy completion. - Update the execution contract and task maps. ## Verification - Red before the fix: three regressions failed. Done had no Stop; Cancelled stopped after the update; an unconfirmed Stop allowed Done. - A second red proved that a Stop receipt without the route's operator metadata was not recognized by the real recovery policy. Both cases pass after the metadata repair. - Final local result on macOS arm64 / Node.js 26.4.0: **348 tests pass across eight suites**. These cover the route, native self-completion authority, cancellation, acknowledged Stop, recovery queues, dependency wakeups, and completion telemetry. - CI found seven sibling route failures from an unnecessary active-run lookup on tasks without execution ownership. Those cases failed locally before the correction and pass afterward. - Earlier concurrent local runs hit a module-load hook timeout and one watchdog socket hang-up. The isolated watchdog case and the complete final eight-suite run pass with a 90-second startup budget. No assertion was removed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check`: pass. - `pnpm build` and `pnpm -r typecheck`: pass. Server build and typecheck also pass after the Stop metadata change; the final server build includes the lookup correction. - `pnpm test:run`: attempted; the unchanged chat shard selector failed before executing its selected tests (`No test found ... in lines ...`). This is separate from the PostgreSQL startup failure. CI supplies full-suite verification. - PostgreSQL integration and live-provider acceptance did not run locally. Embedded PostgreSQL failed before app startup with `could not create semaphores: No space left on device`. No usable isolated local database runtime was available. CI supplies the PostgreSQL regression environment. The full live OpenRouter workflow remains unverified. - The first final-head CI pass hit a 15-second timeout in the unchanged `attention-retention-work.test.ts` blocker-history fixture. Cleanup then deadlocked and later inserts reused IDs. This service test does not call the changed route. The original log is [retained here](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41476191754/job/125384289220). The one allowed rerun also failed on the same commit: the `running` case exceeded 15 seconds again ([rerun log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41476191754/job/125393915025)). The rerun otherwise passed 2,346 tests. No retention source or assertion was changed. This repeatable failure is the remaining CI gate; the PR is **not ready to merge**. The next step is to isolate that retention fixture/query in a usable PostgreSQL environment and repair its cause before rerunning CI. - Greptile reviewed final commit `b3cb41af2d911e9ced219e846cada3ecec835dbf` at **5/5**, with no unresolved review threads. Greptile is green. CI is blocked by the repeated retention test timeout described above. - CI native cancellation evidence: all 16 tests in `server/src/__tests__/native-cancellation-request.integration.test.ts` pass ([job log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41476191754/job/125384289222)). - CI PostgreSQL wake-queue evidence: all 96 tests in `server/src/modules/wake-queue/adapters/postgres.test.ts` pass ([job log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41476191754/job/125384289470)). ## Risks Board closure now waits for native Stop even when the provider has no goal. A failed or uncertain Stop keeps the task open. The change uses the existing cancellation and workspace-preservation path. It adds no retry loop, credential access, schema change, or publication authority. Direct service updates and agent semantic completion retain their existing paths. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser inspection. The exact serving snapshot ID and context window are not exposed in this session.

Prove workspace delivery before inspecting cleanup candidates (#18493)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Completed tasks leave workspaces that need safe cleanup. > - Providers without ancestry inspection currently need a recorded merged PR before cleanup can start. > - A squash merge changes commit identity, so direct ancestry cannot prove that delivery. > - This change proves delivery from the finalized HEAD and captured destination before storage inspection. > - Fresh storage checks and a second delivery check still protect removal. > - This reuses the existing worker and receipts. It adds no table or timer. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18410. Related: #13400 addresses workspace identity during inspection; this change adds destination-aware delivery discovery. ## What Changed - Resolve direct ancestry or discover an associated merged GitHub PR without a recorded work product. Require exact HEAD, destination repository and branch, and a reachable integration commit. - Use the latest settled finalization receipt as a candidate. Reject missing, failed, pending, conflicting, or changed evidence. - Inspect storage only after positive remote proof for providers that disable ancestry inspection. Recheck HEAD, branch, source identity and delivery before removal intent. - Add an optional provider capability for a specific PR recovery hint and an optional prepared destination receipt. Older providers keep their existing protocol. - Wake cleanup when finalization writes settle or gain a workspace binding. Keep remote-only retries for concrete unresolved delivery. Park missing or unsupported candidate identity. - Reuse the source project's explicit GitHub consent for delivery checks through the existing authorization service. Revalidate the bound repository and consent before removal; missing or revoked consent retains storage without switching identities. Public sources remain anonymous. - Update the contracts, documentation, access map, and targeted regressions. ## Verification - Initial-head GitHub CI passed at `5acd4c818be6f1764f8319f42891f9956c357c26`, including full build and typecheck. Standard Greptile is 5/5 with no open threads. The first Apex review scored 3/5 and found startup latency from remote proof lookups and removal retry identity changes across provider capability changes. Both corrections are pushed in `9d1a38df3d`, with the qualified destination-ref length fix. Red regressions reproduced each issue. Latest targeted checks passed: cleanup/worker 26, provider integration 41, SDK contract 8. Head `9d1a38df3d` passed standard and Apex reviews at 5/5 with no open threads, plus all CI including full build/typecheck. Canary Dry Run initially failed on an npm 404 fetching `rollup-4.67.3.tgz`; the exact tarball subsequently returned HTTP 200, and one targeted retry passed without source changes. Aggregate verification also passed. After #18403 merged, master introduced conflicts in shared workspace cleanup and metadata handling. Resolved them in `7700832536`, preserving remote snapshot cleanup and Git delivery-proof cleanup. Targeted merge verification: 93 tests passed in the first run (59 opt-in skips), then all 16 remote lifecycle tests passed with explicit database opt-in; map checks passed. The isolated database is stopped. The merge head received standard review 5/5. Its CI found two failures in unchanged test cleanup paths: native runtime temporary-directory ENOTEMPTY and agent-chat cancellation lock timeout. Those failures remain recorded and require successful final-head verification. The subsequent project-consent change has targeted coverage: authorization36, resolver33 and cleanup19 tests passed, including revoked consent, anonymous public access and source-binding races. The positive consent test failed before the fix. Current head `c772679e05` has green GitHub CI, including full build/typecheck and both previously failing test jobs, plus standard Greptile 5/5 with no open threads. Neither cleanup failure required changes to its test path. Apex also completed at 5/5 on this exact head (check `124651548532`, summary updated 2026-10-31 20:45 UTC), with no open review threads. The PR remains draft. Earlier failures remain recorded above. - Final focused run on the rebased branch: **182 tests passed across six files**, covering the resolver, delivery cleanup, provider bridge, finalization notifications, existing workspace service and SDK contracts. The disposable test database was stopped afterward. - Targeted resolver tests: 33 passed. These cover ancestry, discovered squash PRs, wrong HEAD/base/repository, removed integration commits, bounded responses, cancellation and credential isolation. - Targeted cleanup integration tests: 17 passed. Provider bridge integration: 36 passed. SDK contract tests: 7 passed. Finalization notification tests: 9 passed. - A negative control that removed the final delivery check failed the race regression as expected. The check was restored. - Read-only live GitHub probe: the new resolver discovered PR #18410 from HEAD `3f5ade4cd42b707040e9a82fdaed343e3d736a09`, without PR hints. It proved integration commit `6484f96c28bfb11a793ce4be6cc5ac15643a5a02` reachable from observed master `5bc029bf6c1db6647e96acea323f3723fd1d3eba`. GitHub also advertised the exact original HEAD at `refs/pull/18410/head`. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. Structural checks do not prove deployment behavior. - Local tests are targeted by user request. Full build, typecheck and test suite run in GitHub CI. A standalone server typecheck could not complete because local Runner build declarations were absent; no changed-file diagnostics were reported. - Initial local execution hit a stalled pnpm wrapper, sandbox socket denial and stale generated SDK declarations. Direct installed binaries, the authorized isolated test database and rebuilt SDK resolved those setup failures. No deployment was performed. ## Risks - Destructive cleanup still requires fresh storage safety and lifecycle checks. Remote proof alone never authorizes removal. A persisted removal intent preserves existing recovery semantics. - Legacy workspaces without an unambiguous destination or completion HEAD remain retained. This does not guess the original default branch. - Private repositories use the explicit standing GitHub consent on the bound source project, with current membership, grant, repository access and trust checks. No separate company token is required when that consent is valid. Missing or revoked consent and unavailable or rate-limited access retain storage; the worker does not borrow a task or agent identity. - A known undelivered commit keeps the existing five-minute retry because external GitHub changes have no guaranteed ingress to this lane. This can keep cleanup scheduled. Missing evidence parks instead. - Providers need the new recovery capability to clean a squash merge whose original HEAD is reachable only through its PR ref. Providers without it remain conservative. - The resolver currently supports GitHub.com. Existing local and other-provider ancestry paths stay in place. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools and parallel code agents. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size were not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(workspaces): honor inherited remote workspace bindings (#18611)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Task creation can bind a child to its parent's execution workspace. > - Native sandbox runs reserve that workspace before the provider starts. > - Remote reservation rejected inherited isolated workspaces and operator branches because the original source task differed. > - This check stopped valid child tasks before their existing access and writer checks could run. > - This pull request uses the persisted binding and existing source-access checks to admit that continuation. > - The benefit is that authorized child tasks can continue saved work while the single-writer lock stays effective. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A child inherited an active isolated remote workspace through normal task creation. Its next run failed during setup with `Workspace ownership changed.` No provider work started. The reservation guard treated the original `sourceIssueId` as exclusive ownership, although task creation had persisted a valid child binding. **Expected behavior** A bound child or follow-up can reserve the workspace after the prior writer saves. Current task/run access, source visibility, trust, company scope, closed-workspace state, and writer checks must still apply. The original source task remains provenance. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a task with an active saved remote isolated workspace or operator branch. 2. Create a child without an explicit workspace override. 3. Confirm that the child inherited the execution workspace ID. 4. Start its native sandbox run. The old reservation guard rejects it before provider execution. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on source based on `06bc8db75c71142ed108e0f331394c5187015d6a`. The same guard is present at `1a6017d6460267ad89d7e1784e2b521c28d8e9ac`. Related: #17156 proposes separate workspaces for child tasks. This repair preserves the current inheritance contract and enforces the remote writer lock. #16911 addresses child bindings across repositories. ## What Changed - Remove the original-task equality restriction for active remote workspaces. Keep the existing persisted-binding and retained-source authorization path. Explicit task-root selection follows the existing V1 filesystem contract; task-assignment grants do not define filesystem permissions. - Keep closed workspace rejection and unfinished-writer checks. - Add database-backed regressions for inheritance, replay, competing children, an unbound task, private source data, company isolation, and closed records. - Extend real save/restore tests for inherited isolated workspaces and operator branches. Keep shared-workspace discovery coverage. - Update the development guide and workspace maps. ## Verification - Red: before the repair, the inherited isolated/operator cases fail with `Workspace ownership changed.` The shared case passes. The unfixed suite has five failures and four passes. - Green: 11 reservation cases pass with real PostgreSQL 18 in an isolated Docker container. - An earlier run of the four affected workspace/preparation/trust suites passed 191 tests. The review follow-up passes all 15 selected reservation/save/restore cases. Inherited cases remove the original files, use a distinct allocation and target, restore the saved file, append child work, and independently read that work from the child's new snapshot. Shared-source discovery stays covered. The filter excludes 42 other integration cases. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass. A direct server typecheck also passes after the final test edit. - `pnpm test:run` stopped in its first chat shard: 338 passed, one Discord receiver-lease setup failure, 1,478 outside the shard. The failing test passes in isolation on both the unchanged baseline and the fix. Its suite-order failure is not explained by that retry and remains recorded. The unchanged baseline also fails three other Discord publication cases in that chat shard, while its next chat shard passes. This does not reproduce or explain the original lease failure; both results remain recorded. CI is complete on `e697f6e1b8`: 54 successful check runs, one successful legacy status, three skipped checks, and one neutral check. No check is pending or failed. Greptile gives this commit 5/5 with no remaining findings. The security reviewer accepted the V1-contract explanation; both review threads are resolved. - Live sandbox acceptance remains unverified. The available test credentials could not resolve the required sandbox snapshot. The provider rejected creation before workspace execution, and a scoped follow-up found no allocation. No live model turn, deployment, or original-task recovery is claimed. - Local environment: macOS arm64, Node 26.4.0, pnpm 9.15.4. Native PostgreSQL startup hit the host semaphore limit; tests use disposable Docker databases. No shared database was reset. ## Risks - A bound child can now write after the prior writer releases the workspace. Incorrect binding or access checks could expose source data. Regressions cover unbound, private-source, and foreign-company rejection. - Concurrent children must not become two writers. A real transaction race grants exactly one reservation; saved-file tests keep the second writer blocked until save completes. - No schema or migration changes. This PR does not change task-creation inheritance, requested models, credentials, trust, approval gates, or recovery budgets. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser diagnostics. No sub-agents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — the targeted workspace suites pass; the full local chat-suite failure and baseline comparison are documented above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): install verified API artifacts in execution workspaces (#18494)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Native agents use authorized API tools to read saved results. > - Copying a large response as model-generated text can lose bytes. > - The execution workspace needs an exact copy of the saved artifact. > - This change copies the authorized bytes without shell API credentials. > - The runtime verifies size and SHA-256 before it reports success. > - A live evaluation checks capture origin, installation and delivered bytes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native agent lost one byte while copying a 24576-byte API text page. Existing capture and paging controls passed. The runtime had no verified saved-artifact-to-workspace copy tool. A separate historical screening refusal does not establish capture corruption. **Expected behavior** An authorized native run can install the complete saved artifact. The stored and installed bytes must match in size and SHA-256. A conflicting file must remain unchanged. A lost publication receipt must not cause an unsafe repeated write. **Steps to reproduce** Run `server/src/services/native-runtime/artifact-transfer.integration.test.ts` on baseline `c46b8f35add9255fc71be294d27f5a7865bcb47f`. Its capability assertion fails because `download_artifact` is absent. Apply this PR and run the same regression with the filesystem and API controls. It verifies 388131 synthetic bytes through the authority and installation boundary. Refs #18429. Related #17393, #17086 and #17285 cover paging, transfer foundations and remote output reads. This PR adds the inbound installation contract. ## What Changed - Add `download_artifact` for supported standard-mode native runs, with a 10 MiB limit. - Reuse current company, task, run, asset-content and responsible-user access checks. Check authority again before publication. - Bind installation to the current execution lease. Stage through confined Linux descriptors and publish with an atomic create-only link. Keep API credentials out of execution commands. - Verify bytes at storage and execution boundaries. Reject unsafe paths, symlinks, different existing files, truncation and corruption. Reconcile an unknown publication through verification only; an identical explicit retry remains safe. - Add API documentation, access-map entries and content-free audit records. - Preserve only the pinned Daytona SDK numeric HTTP status when failed creation cleanup is unconfirmed. Keep provider exception messages and headers private. - Keep only the finished runner binary and portable provider pack in their builder layers. Remove Rust targets/downloads and the Node install workspace/store before export. Report tree sizes. - Add one explicit Codex/Daytona Product E2E cell. Its independent oracle checks the server capture audit, redacted tool receipts, stored source, delivered attachment and browser link after reload. Uploaded substitutes and one-byte loss fail. ## Verification - Merge update at `6766b46553cab5b9787ade87a002eccaf50e68fc`: merge current master and preserve both explicit suites in the catalog. Focused catalog, image and oracle checks: 122 pass. Filesystem and authority integration: 20 pass. Maps, module boundaries and whitespace checks pass. New-head CI and Greptile are running. Full local build and typecheck remain unavailable because cargo is absent. - Behavioral red/green: the absent-tool regression failed before implementation and passed afterward. The initial missing-package attempt is recorded as setup failure. - Linux filesystem and real PostgreSQL/authority integration: 19 filesystem tests and 1 authority test pass. Existing API authority, capture and paging controls: 70 pass, 2 skipped. Provider transport in these integration controls is simulated. - Qualification calibration: 118 focused tests pass. The real persisted-event redaction case and a byte-identical uploaded substitute each failed before their oracle repair. The unchanged controls then passed. Harness typecheck passes. - Full recursive typecheck and build pass locally on the integrated production source at `086f7a2901`. Later commits change only qualification tests and documentation. - Structural map/module checks and whitespace checks pass. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted by the implementation worker and stopped under its 8 GiB memory limit, with no full-suite verdict. Current-head CI must supply the full test result. - The complete local Product E2E support suite has 13 failures. The unchanged pre-qualification baseline reproduces all 13: host PostgreSQL semaphore capacity, stale timeout/profile/workflow inventory expectations, and expired fixed-date allowance fixtures. This is not a full local suite pass. - Earlier CI at `086f7a2901` failed a browser test during cleanup cancellation with a database lock timeout. It remains recorded. All browser shards passed on both later fully checked heads. - Two qualification campaigns were canceled during setup before provider execution while correcting the oracle. They provide no live product verdict. - Previous-head CI at `28fa001457f59df1c300c016dc569049e72d0061`: 53 checks pass, 3 intentional selection skips; no failed or pending checks. - Real image/export regression: campaign 41272351780 compiled the Linux runner and passed root/unprivileged CLI and transport checks, then failed BuildKit export with `no space left on device` (exit 102, filesystem 99.99%). No provider cell ran. Removing the Rust build trees alone was insufficient: campaign 41273604815 also failed during provider-pack export with exit 102. Commit `5bbb549c54` also consolidates dependency installation and pack construction so the disposable workspace/store can be removed in the same layer. All 122 image/oracle/catalog checks pass. Image and remote-pack publication then passed in campaign 41275196741 after cleanup changes plus a scoped 60-to-120 GiB expansion of only its delete-on-termination builder disk. The VM terminated and the expanded volume was deleted. This does not establish that cleanup alone makes the default 60 GiB builder sufficient. - The Daytona admission probe then failed before agent creation, with unconfirmed provider cleanup. The queued continuity case was canceled because it shares this prerequisite. No artifact-transfer or continuity success is claimed. - Status-diagnostic regression: the original generic wrapper failed the HTTP-status assertion. After the repair, the full plugin suite passes 501 tests, with 7 skips; its standalone TypeScript check passes. Controls reject invalid status values, avoid accessors, preserve the original create status and exclude credential canaries. - Previous-head Greptile: 5/5; its summary names `28fa001457f59df1c300c016dc569049e72d0061`. All review threads are resolved. - Live artifact transfer and three-turn warm continuity: NOT VERIFIED. The diagnostic case in https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41277598289 confirmed Daytona HTTP 401 before agent creation. The configured `DAYTONA_API_KEY` in the existing `runner-e2e-paid` environment needs verification or refresh. The queued continuity control was not run after its shared admission prerequisite failed. No further provider attempt is planned until the credential changes. Unconfirmed provider cleanup remains recorded. ## Risks - Source-provenance changes can repeat the provider dependency install. The combined build layer trades install-cache granularity for lower retained disk use. - Linux descriptor semantics and Node are required on the execution host. Unsupported providers and restricted runtime profiles fail closed. - Storage reads buffer at most 10 MiB. A provider outage can leave a reserved staging file. Partial bytes never become the destination. - A lost publication receipt can leave a complete file with an unknown result. Recovery verifies the existing file without installation. Conflicts are never overwritten. - Artifact contents remain untrusted. The copy does not bypass screening or authorize downstream execution. - Live qualification uses the governed Codex API profile. It does not establish every model, subscription profile, platform or historical failure cause. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex assisted with diagnosis, code, tests and qualification. The desktop runtime does not expose a more specific model deployment ID or context-window size. The model used reasoning, source inspection, tools and code execution. The native implementation agent is configured with OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(server): support volume-free web server handoff (#18518)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its web server also owns controller admission and user commands. > - A rolling deployment starts a replacement before the old server exits. > - Shared database state alone does not preserve local agent files, browser chunks, or in-process commands. > - This pull request adds an opt-in ephemeral server contract and a local overlap test. > - The benefit is a web server that can relinquish traffic and local files without losing acknowledged work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18403, #18327, #18335, #18341. **Current behavior** The control-plane web server still has local agent-file authority and local command targets. A new container can miss saved bytes or send a command to the wrong process. An existing browser tab also needs chunks from its original build. **Proposed behavior** Eligible servers share only PostgreSQL, object storage and stable secrets. A replacement waits for readiness. The old server drains admitted requests, keeps owner commands available through handoff, and releases controller leases. Explicit maintenance adopts existing files before the volume is removed. **Reason and benefit** This is the application prerequisite for rolling app-only deployments. Schema migrations and permanent multi-replica operation are outside this change. ## What Changed - Store agent-file manifests in PostgreSQL and immutable bytes in S3. Treat local roots as disposable projections. Preserve existing permission checks and edit conflicts. - Add an explicit migration, eligibility and object-retention command to the production runtime bundle. - Add `/api/ready`, admitted-request drain, browser restart signaling and retained immutable UI chunks. - Carry transaction-aware work hints across controllers during handoff and active execution. Keep listeners closed when idle. - Deliver durable Stop and runtime responses to the execution owner. Recheck request lifecycle and access before response dispatch. - Reject local-only configuration in ephemeral mode. Keep the feature disabled for existing installations by default. - Add an isolated PostgreSQL/S3/proxy/browser deployment harness with independent server homes and retained failure evidence. ## Verification - All CI checks pass on `ce17b95019d3cf1cabd357d19b6d37f96782cc5c`: workspace typecheck, build, Runner checks, server/general tests and browser shards. Greptile reviewed the runtime changes at 5/5 with all findings resolved; the final commit updates maps and the plan. - Local targeted checks passed: coordinator 27; Stop/recovery 33; PostgreSQL command delivery 6; route/workspace regressions 8; bootstrap Stop 1; restart recovery 75. PostgreSQL command tests simulate the provider edge. - Local browser proof passed 91 reads and 19 saves; reconnect took 1,013ms. The tab opened Audit from S3 after deletion of A's whole home/build. This uses compiled workspace code and local-trusted auth, not released containers or live agents. - Local workspace typecheck/build passed; current server and runtime bundle passed. The earlier broad local suite was stopped after three hours and is not a passing receipt. Its retained failures and isolated reruns are documented in the plan. - Stacked #18526 adds stricter graceful-exit proof, an unready replacement control, live Runner qualification and a Stop handoff correction. Hosted enablement remains gated on those results and Cloud #1096. No hosted stack has been enabled. ## Risks - Apply migration 0422 before enabling the feature. Existing data must pass each owner's migration and eligibility checks. Do not discard a volume based on a single migration page. - Durable manifests remain authoritative after the opt-in is disabled. Rolling back to a binary that ignores them is unsupported. - Cold directory restoration and complete shutdown timing still need qualification before enabling a hosted stack. - Retained UI assets must cover the supported browser and rollback window. Cleanup is explicit; no new idle maintenance polling is introduced. - This change does not claim production zero downtime or authorize a fleet-wide enablement. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, code editing, shell execution and browser automation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(github): expose review finding categories (#18429)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - GitHub review bots submit structured assessments through task-bound tools. > - Each repository can set its own finding categories. > - The schema accepts a string, but the server rejects values outside the saved review policy. > - Review instructions did not list the accepted values. The error did not list them either. > - This change gives agents the values before submission and keeps server validation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Review submissions failed with an unknown finding category. The agent corrected the assessment before publication. The sampled trace has two rejections followed by a processed review. Historical tool inputs are null. Authorized diagnostic inspection found no saved raw provider trace for the representative run. The exact rejected values remain unknown. **Expected behavior** Agents can find the accepted categories before submission. Unknown values still fail validation. **Steps to reproduce** Set a custom finding category. Start a review. Submit a different category. Before this change, the instructions and error do not list the accepted value. ## What Changed - List configured categories in manual and automatic review instructions. - Return categories from the saved assessment policy in `begin_review`. - Describe the dynamic constraint in the shared discovery schema. Keep custom categories valid. - List accepted values in category errors. Keep authorization and publication checks. - Add contract and database integration tests. Update documentation and access maps. ### Hypothesis and thesis for a fix The missing category guidance can cause avoidable submission retries. A model can also ignore the policy returned by metadata reads; the historical inputs do not establish which occurred. The repair belongs to the GitHub review contract. Use the saved policy categories at review start, explain the constraint, and retain server rejection. A fixed global enum would reject valid custom categories. ## Verification - Baseline `f1d7808`: two new contract assertions failed for missing category guidance and error detail. The same assertions pass after the change. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/chat-github-review-policy.test.ts server/src/services/chat-github-tools.test.ts`: 41 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t 'returns snapshot finding categories'`: 1 passed. Real PostgreSQL and service code; simulated GitHub HTTP. Checks policy changes, rejection before publication, accepted custom category persistence, and processed publication. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed. Structural evidence only. - Shared TypeScript check passed. Server TypeScript checking was killed by the 8 GiB memory limit, including a separate retry after the other checks stopped. - Full typecheck and build could not complete: `cargo` is absent. Full tests were stopped after concurrent checks exhausted memory. CI must supply the full checks. - Follow-up compiler repair: the unchanged baseline reproduces TS2352 in the category discovery test. Runtime matchers replace the unsafe schema cast. They retain both guidance and custom-category assertions. The repair is commit `0dcb94c676`, with current master merged at `14d7052854`. The final head is `c46b8f35add9255fc71be294d27f5a7865bcb47f`; the remaining code-comment review finding was removed and resolved. - Final-head CI: all gates pass, with no failed or pending checks. Greptile gives this head 5/5 with no outstanding findings; the only inline thread is resolved. The workspace test shard passed on one bounded rerun after an earlier CLI child-server readiness timeout; no code change was made for that rerun. - The review host passed full recursive typecheck and build after the compiler repair and master integration. Fresh database rechecks hit the host PostgreSQL semaphore limit. The full local test command hit a pre-existing chat line-selection failure before assertions. These local limits do not replace the passing final-head CI evidence. - No live model or GitHub publication at the changed revision. No deployment or merge. ## Risks - Instructions add policy text. An agent can still ignore it. - Existing bot catalogs get the schema description when tools are synchronized. Trusted review instructions and `begin_review` also expose categories. - The service test uses simulated GitHub HTTP. It does not prove that deployed agents avoid retries. ## Model Used The original worker used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. A later Codex review repaired the test compiler error. That review runtime exposes GPT-6 but no exact snapshot or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: cryppadotta <34892728+cryppadotta@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(recovery): preserve native task access during resolution (#18489)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip controls agent execution and task ownership. > - A native run needs its task binding until it reports its result. > - Direct task updates already reject self-status changes that remove this binding. > - Recovery resolution can also change the source task status. > - That route did not use the same protection. > - This change rejects the unsafe status change before the task or recovery receipt changes. > - The run can then use semantic completion while normal recovery permissions remain effective. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18411. **What happened?** A running native owner can resolve an older recovery action with `sourceIssueStatus: "in_review"` or `"done"`. The request succeeds and changes its own task status. That can release the execution binding before the run reports. Later task tools fail with `paperclip_runner_tool_binding_not_authorized`. **Expected behavior** Return a conflict before the task status or action receipt changes. Tell the run to report through `paperclip_finish` or `paperclip_block`. Preserve unchanged-status resolution, Board recovery, legacy-agent behavior, and the existing conversation and handoff rules. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Give a running native owner the task execution lock and an older recovery action. 2. Call `POST /api/issues/{id}/recovery-actions/resolve` as that run. Use `outcome: "restored"` and `sourceIssueStatus: "in_review"`. 3. Before this fix, the route returns 200 and changes the status. After this fix, it returns 409 with `native_run_status_reported_by_finish` and makes no task or action mutation. ## What Changed - Reuse the existing native self-status guard inside recovery resolution's source-task transaction. - Let the guard receive the requested status from either route contract. - Add HTTP route regressions for rejected review/completion transitions and continued task editing after rejection. - Cover unchanged-status native resolution, Board recovery and legacy-agent resolution. - Update execution semantics and both recovery maps. ## Verification - Baseline `91fdf02`: the two new rejection cases fail because the real Express route returns 200. Three safety cases pass. - Fixed source: all 198 tests in `server/src/__tests__/issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes.test.ts` pass. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passes. This is structural evidence. - Greptile and Paperclip Review both give the integrated head 5/5 with no actionable findings. - Full recursive typecheck, full build, and a repeat of all 198 route tests pass at integrated head `0fa104dfb240500acd01303cd446363ea39c6c75`. All current-head CI gates pass (55 successful checks/statuses; no failed or pending checks). - The full local `pnpm test:run` command fails in chat-test line selection with `No test found`, before assertions. This also occurs with the unchanged master chat test file. It is not a passing full local suite. - The route tests use the real route, validation and guard. They mock service and database boundaries. The observed hosted failure establishes the original mechanism. Fixed-source live provider acceptance remains unverified. No deployment or merge is part of this PR. ## Risks - A native owner now receives a conflict for a previously accepted recovery status change. It must use the existing semantic result path. - This prevents a new binding loss. It does not prove that an old remote executor stopped or recover missing provider state. - Board, legacy, conversation and handoff behavior retains existing authority. The regression includes representative allowed paths. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools and code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific snapshot ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (198 focused route cases; the full local command has the recorded selection failure) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(workspaces): keep remote files off the webserver disk (#18403)
Keep native sandbox workspace files independent of the webserver disk. Use encrypted saved versions and Postgres ownership so a replacement server can recover files and continue work. Enable the path by default for new eligible workspaces when durable storage is configured. Preserve explicit opt-outs and existing host workspaces. Include safe snapshot repair, Files access, import, migration and retention. Bound saved-Files resources, preserve imported Git recovery, reject unfinished Git operations, publish immutable concurrent captures, and verify permanent object-version deletion. Validated 471 targeted local controls, build/typechecks, all 40 CI partitions, fresh Greptile 5/5 and security review. The PR records original failed attempts and scoped retries. feat(chat): deliver proactive task messages to agent chats (#18374)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent Chat gives each person a persistent conversation with each
agent.
> - Tasks and routines produce results outside that conversation.
> - Those runs need a safe way to bring a requested result back to the
person.
> - The server must select the agent's own chat and check the source
task's access rules.
> - This pull request adds proactive chat messages and unread
indicators.
> - People can see the result, open its source task, and reply in the
same chat.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Server, native runner tools, shared contracts, database, and UI.
**Problem or motivation**
An agent can report progress on a task or comment on an authorized task.
It cannot send a routine result to its own standing chat with the
responsible person. A morning review routine therefore cannot leave a
visible digest in that person's chat.
**Proposed solution**
Add `send_chat_message({body, idempotencyKey})` and `POST
/api/agents/me/chat/messages`. The server selects the company, agent,
and responsible person from the active run. It saves an attributed
comment and audit record in one transaction. The chat shows a
source-task link and per-person unread state.
**Alternatives considered**
A destination parameter on a generic comment tool would expose
unnecessary routing authority. A new delivery worker would add another
durable delivery path. This change uses a dedicated tool and the
existing comment and live-event paths.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental Agent Chat capability in `ROADMAP.md`. The
existing `enableAgentChat` setting controls it. Related public work:
Refs #13282, Refs #13283, and Refs #14408. Searches for proactive chat
and unread chat found no duplicate PR.
## What Changed
- Add a focused messaging service shared by the native tool and HTTP
route. It checks current run ownership, execution mode, recipient
membership, task access, and task privacy.
- Reuse the canonical company/agent/person conversation. Save the
comment and audit record together. Keep task completion and chat
execution separate from delivery.
- Add source-task provenance and source-scoped retry keys. Identical
retries return the saved receipt. Changed content returns a conflict.
- Enforce the conversation's fixed agent at the shared comment-write
boundary. Keep normal reply cancellation and session checks.
- Add chat unread state, accessible agent dots, aggregate Chat
indicators, and visible-message read cutoffs. Refresh through existing
live events.
- Add the request-key constraint, native tool contracts, documentation,
capability maps, stories, and regression coverage.
## Verification
- Local delivery/security proof: all 38 proactive-message cases pass.
Eight credential-scope regressions and four quota regressions fail
against the prior source. The repaired delivery and canonical
cross-issue cap suites pass all 49 cases; all 31 OpenAPI tests, server
typecheck, and capability-map checks pass. The shared per-run cap covers
native and HTTP sends, mixed ordinary mutations, concurrent last-slot
contention, and retry/recovery without double charging.
- Credential tests preserve the authenticated person and authorizer;
reject bridge/test credentials and persisted skill-test runs after
task-mode changes; and recheck API-key revocation, scope, and
responsible person after destination locking. The earlier
delivery/native-authority suites passed all 74 cases before the four
quota additions.
- Four PostgreSQL contention cases cover native and HTTP sends plus
retries during a native chat mutation. All four deadlock against the
earlier source and pass with destination-before-source/run locking.
Recovery and human-reply delivery enqueue only the human comment; a
proactive digest never wakes the chat agent.
- Passed 108 companion conversation, native-authority, and OpenAPI
tests; 112 runner catalog/workflow-report tests; 47 completion-delivery
tests; and 25 project-handoff tests. Focused runner tests cover native
tool availability without generic API tools.
- All 327 affected UI tests, UI typecheck, token gates, and catalog
checks pass. The read hook retries at most three times, respects server
retry delay, coalesces only seen cutoffs, recovers on reconnect, and
cancels on scope changes.
- Real browser journeys with a deterministic process agent verify
routine-to-chat delivery, first-chat creation, unread state across
reload, the source link, secondary chat navigation, and a follow-up
reply referring to the digest. This does not qualify live GitHub
retrieval or model output quality.
- The Storybook showcase uses production components with deterministic
network fixtures. Rendered interactions pass for the landing, ordinary
read success, transient read recovery, and persistent failure after
bounded retries. Both Chat navigation variants update from two unread
chats to one while only Kodi's dot clears. Mobile and light variants
were reviewed. The existing Coordinator Recents label contrast finding
is unchanged; no Linux visual baseline archive exists.
- Current master's independent sandbox migration retains 0418.
Regenerated the feature migration as 0419 from the combined schema and
retained exactly the newest five snapshots; numbering/safety, replay,
and schema-drift checks pass.
- Workspace typecheck and build passed before PR preparation; canonical
server/UI typechecks passed again on the combined tree. Migration
`0419_slippery_impossible_man.sql` passes safety and schema drift checks
on disposable PostgreSQL, including interrupted index repair, concurrent
migrators, one-time owner read-state backfill, preserved receipts, and
two SQL replays. A default five-second local snapshot comparison timed
out; a diagnostic 30-second run passed without drift.
- Earlier failures are retained in the record: full local `pnpm
test:run` and broad shards encountered embedded-PostgreSQL startup,
timing, and provider-recovery failures. Thirteen selected
external-channel cases pass in isolation on the original and changed
sources; an unordered comment-row assertion now explicitly orders both
reads. The earlier route registry, native tool count, runner catalog,
and accessible Chat badge-name failures were fixed and passed full
remote CI on `920b3bb7db`.
- Repeated managed-skill server8 failures came from CI's newer synthetic
merge: its Cloud guard correctly rejected the old local-disk fixture.
Master independently repaired the fixture in #18385; this branch keeps
that repair unchanged. All 57 managed-skill and Cloud prerequisite cases
pass on the combined tree, and that fixture has no remaining PR diff.
- Current reviewed head `dc16f314739a6d977bed21cb1446d0e80a541578`:
Greptile 5/5 with no findings, Superagent security assessment passed,
advisory Paperclip Review 5/5 with no findings, and zero open review
threads. All 55 current-head check runs pass, with five expected skips
and the advisory review neutral at 5/5; Snyk also passes. No checks are
pending or failing. Protected squash auto-merge is enabled and is
waiting for required code-owner approval. A normal exact-head merge was
refused by the base-branch policy; no admin bypass was used. The
previous head's Superagent quota finding is fixed and covered above.
## Risks
- Chat remains company-visible. Delivery rejects a source task with
private-task, project, or ancestor restrictions.
- Read state uses a comment timestamp cutoff. The server retains
database precision and never moves a read receipt backward.
- The new unique constraint changes comment query planning. An existing
regression now uses an explicit row order. The migration builds the
unique index concurrently, then takes a brief table lock to attach it.
It uses the existing top-level migration and interrupted-index recovery
path.
- The upgrade backfills missing chat-owner read-state rows at the latest
existing agent comment. Existing read receipts remain intact. New chats
can still be unread before the human participates.
- Quota observation commits atomically with delivery. A rejected send
rolls back its attempted denial audit row and any first-chat creation;
the canonical warning remains in server logs, and previously spent quota
remains enforced. Identical/conflicting retries and receipt recovery
spend no extra slot.
- This version delivers in-app only. It adds no external-channel, push,
or email delivery.
- Local full-suite acceptance remains limited by the failures recorded
above. The feature stays behind `enableAgentChat`.
## Model Used
OpenAI Codex. PR preparation and CI work used `gpt-6.1-sol` with tool
use and code execution. The earlier implementation also used Codex, but
its exact model ID was not recorded in the visible session. The
context-window size was not provided.

fix(server): reconcile failed sandbox cleanup with signed absence (#18407)
Reconcile failed ephemeral Cloud leases through a signed cleanup-only absence observation when local historical inspection is unavailable. Preserve failure outcomes, exact resource bindings, retention and row-version fences; grant no run-continuation authority. All 54 current-head checks/statuses passed. Greptile is 5/5, Medium, with no findings or unresolved threads. The 38 focused tests pass; both new reconciliation cases fail without the fallback. Isolated baseline and branch idle suites each pass all 225 cases. The original broader local teardown timeout is retained in the PR, and the full local run remains in progress. Cloud protocol support is already serving in staging. Exact candidate composition and hosted provider sleep/wake qualification follow this merge. Production has not been changed. feat(skills): make managed content independent of web-server disk (#18334)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use installed skills and exact version pins during execution. > - Managed skills still depended on mutable directories on the web server. > - A replacement server could lose acknowledged edits or remove an unassigned skill whose directory was absent. > - This pull request makes immutable versions the authority for managed content and installed repository reads. > - The server can rebuild delivery files from durable content after replacement. > - This establishes skills readiness for ephemeral web servers. General server draining and workspace recovery remain separate work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Skills services, shared contracts, database receipts, Skill Studio, and runtime delivery. **Problem or motivation** A fresh web server must discover, read, edit, and deliver protected installed skills using the same database, object storage, secrets, and supported application artifacts. It must not need its predecessor's files or process memory. **Proposed solution** Use `managed` ownership with a null source locator. Read installed content by immutable version. Prepare packages before a short publication transaction. Persist execution selections before materialization. Recover exact pinned runtime assets and reject deletion while active or recovering pins exist. **Alternatives considered** Reconstructing a mutable installed directory preserves the old source-of-truth ambiguity. Permanent dual writes create two competing authorities. This change uses one managed model after a bounded legacy conversion. **Roadmap alignment** This improves the existing Skills Manager, Studio, version history, and Cloud execution capabilities. The maintainer supplied the implementation contract. This does not add a separate skills product or deploy fleet changes. Related work: #18082 supplies immutable package storage. #17273 addresses edits outside the API for linked local skills; this PR keeps that source category separate. #2648 is a closed earlier ephemeral-filesystem proposal. ## What Changed - Add managed ownership and focused content publication and execution materialization modules. Keep the archive format and package storage tables. - Publish managed create, save, delete, fork, rename, restore, and catalog content with version checks. Add durable create receipts. Preserve file-save receipt responses. - Return file version identities. Keep Studio drafts after a conflict and provide an explicit reload action. A delayed reload cannot overwrite newer typing or navigation. - Persist exact runtime selections, including empty selections. Rebuild pinned assets and verify their admitted digests on a replacement server. - Preserve source access on forks and disconnected copies. Keep the existing workspace policy category for managed skills. - Add bounded conversion, eligibility, and independent verification phases. Load persisted Cloud configuration in the standalone CLI without seeding or changing it. Reject partial current versions against installed inventories; recover only complete saved content or the exact source. Document storage migration blockers and the compatible rollback floor. - Add separate-process PostgreSQL/S3 qualification and update domain, retention, policy, and UI regressions. - Pass the plugin worker manager into Studio execution, admit restricted `skill_test` mode through native Runner contracts, and preserve admitted scope across native and REST tools. Native tests cannot create ordinary tasks, browse company data, or use external tools. - Select the exact durable Studio revision even when unassigned or Beta skills is off. Persist Studio output and audit atomically with native task completion, preserving the result on replay. ## Verification - Final revision `13e8af480b88ba6fea5737bac4bd81104d604792` passed full CI: all 49 workflow jobs completed successfully ([run 41127396098](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41127396098)). This includes typecheck, test suites, Runner checks, browser checks and build. Greptile review 15 is 5/5 on that same revision, with zero unresolved threads. The PR is ready for review. - Local workspace typecheck and build passed after integrating master. Focused checks passed: 33 execution/completion cases, 52 Runner HTTP cases, 16 managed-content cases, 17 Studio cases, the new real-process CLI regression, map checks and UI token gates. The CLI regression proves inspection does not seed missing Cloud configuration. Server typecheck passed after that fix. - The independent-process PostgreSQL/S3 matrix passed through normal HTTP skill routes. It covers A → B → C replacement, lost commit responses, upload crashes, concurrent saves, binary contents and executable delivery. Metadata listing and warm selected delivery retain zero object downloads. Local timing measurements are recorded; they do not establish hosted latency. - Hosted A → B → C passed on the owned disposable test tenant with external Postgres, S3 and a real remote Paperclip Computer. Predecessor temporary homes were absent. C read and executed B's acknowledged managed save. New runs used repository v1 while v2 was installed. Hashes matched an independently checked exact upstream commit. - Compatible image rollback to `6518b323` passed. Studio retained the unassigned fork's C save. A fresh remote run executed the newer managed content and historical repository pin. The actual shell event confirmed expected hashes, stdout, exit 0 and mode 0555. - Runtime candidate `9200e3fcb4` deployed successfully ([Cloud run 41124147876](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/actions/runs/41124147876)). The final Studio test delivered only the unassigned fork's exact v3, executed its script and persisted a successful output snapshot. Independent command-event inspection confirmed all three hashes, stdout, exit 0 and mode 0555. All 14 installations were version-backed. Independent verification checked all 25 versions: 23 remote objects, two bundled database snapshots, zero blockers. - The deployed image is `9200e3fcb4`. Later master integration, the client-only delayed-reload draft guard and the CLI bootstrap have separate automated proof. The CLI bootstrap was also exercised against the tenant's stored configuration and storage through the same read-only services. This PR does not claim that the deployed image is the final PR revision. - Live Studio checks exposed worker wiring, admission, access scope, exact selection and completion-publication gaps. They are fixed. Failed attempts remain in the evidence. The full local suite exceeded 80 minutes under host contention and was stopped. Later combined/isolated local attempts also timed out; they are not counted as passes. Full CI covers the integrated suites. Earlier CI found an obsolete restart-scope fixture, which was corrected and passed all 52 HTTP cases. - Reproduction and migration: [`doc/skill-ephemeral-web-servers.md`](doc/skill-ephemeral-web-servers.md). Source revisions, deployments, versions, run IDs, hashes and failure history: [`doc/plans/2026-10-30-ephemeral-web-skills.md`](doc/plans/2026-10-30-ephemeral-web-skills.md). ## Risks - Legacy conversion requires stopped admission and retired filesystem-authoritative writers. Pre-conversion binaries are not supported rollback targets afterward. - Cloud readiness requires remote object storage. Local provider receipts and provider mismatches remain blockers until objects are copied and verified. - Linked local sources retain filesystem semantics and are outside the cloud guarantee. - Cold reads still fetch the existing archive format. Warm runtime preparation retains the verified-cache path. - Bundled reconciliation preserves an installed head. Existing release snapshots remain selectable. An older server must not replace a newer head with its shipped files. - No production volumes, fleet defaults, or general deployment coordination change in this PR. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser use. perf(chat): load recent messages and page history on scroll (#18358)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage work done by agents. > - A standing agent chat can hold months of conversation. > - The chat route forced full-history mode, bypassing compact task loading. > - A cold visit fetched lifetime run summaries and hydrated historical transcripts. > - This PR starts with 20 recent messages and loads earlier pages on upward scroll. > - It preserves the reader's position, current questions, and draft while history grows. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Standing agent chats forced full-history loading. A long conversation fetched full activity and run history before it became readable. Earlier comments also used an explicit load control. **Expected behavior** Open a small recent conversation quickly. Load older messages when the reader scrolls upward. Show an inline loading state. Keep the visible message and composer mounted through paging, live updates, and Back navigation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a standing agent chat with hundreds of messages and completed runs. 2. Use a fresh browser query cache. 3. Observe full activity and run reads plus transcript requests for historical runs. 4. Compare the recent window and upward paging after this change. Related work: #18312 and #18323 restored compact task and collection loading. #14848 added reopening of visited agent chats. A GitHub search found no open PR for this chat-history optimization. ## What Changed - Return 20 contiguous recent comments for standing chats, with a stable oldest cursor. Keep the existing compact task exchange contract. Use the existing company/issue/time index for cursor reads. - Keep chats compact even if their task view previously expanded history. Retain observed messages through live catch-up and cache-backed return visits. - Keep fetched history pages, acknowledged sends, and the observed recent cursor separate. Reconcile live replies without losing history after a send or deleted cursor. - Hydrate metadata only for newly revealed message/run IDs; preserve prior batches while paging. Slow-send recovery refreshes the recent window. Receipts failures have an independent retry. - Hydrate run summaries only for loaded messages and the latest turn. Validate batches of at most 100 run IDs and keep the existing issue/company access rules. - Reuse hydrated terminal native streams when only history membership changes. Preserve retry, resume, mode changes, reconnect recovery, and interrupted recovery reads. - Load older messages, decision receipts, and task handoffs through upward scrolling. Support wheel, touch, and keyboard input. Keep pending questions visible. - Reserve a status slot while loading. Preserve a logical message anchor and the mounted composer. Pause failed page reads until an inline Retry. - Add database, route, controller, and scroll regressions, plus an opt-in production-build browser rig for long chats on desktop and mobile. Update design and feature/access documentation. ## Verification - The real PostgreSQL cold-open suite passes all 12 tests, including contiguous pages with equal timestamps, complete history, company denial, and scoped run IDs. - Activity route and OpenAPI suites pass 53 tests. The route run allowed local cold-import overhead; CI retains the repository's normal timeouts. - Three new paging regressions fail against the unchanged source. The candidate's focused paging/window suite passes 26 tests. Broader UI verification is recorded below when complete. - Desktop and mobile browser acceptance covers recent-only startup, per-frame reveal geometry, delayed and failed older pages, stable reading anchors and drafts, Back, older comment links, and one persisted live reply. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed locally. The final UI source also passes its typecheck and production build. - Affected UI suites pass: 212 controller/history/paging tests, 352 thread/scroller tests, 26 native-stream tests, plus metadata batching and live-cache hydration coverage. The issue mutation/access route suite passes 179 tests. - All 22 final desktop/mobile browser journeys pass, including delayed image growth. The isolated second-page request proof also passes six repeated desktop/mobile runs. A separate 6,000-message, 3,000-run fixture passes cold-open and delayed-paging checks on both screen sizes, still opening 20 messages and loading one 50-message page. - Final matched production timings use baseline `aa58fa1073` (`index-BaRiMbxd.js`) and candidate UI source `f9a26b9783` (`index-DPWTbsFF.js`, identical application source at final head `bf71ffd5af`). Chromium 151.0.7922.34, 1440×900, 4× CPU throttle, no added network latency, browser HTTP cache disabled, fresh application cache for each cold visit. Both variants block service workers and use the same warm local API server and immutable 600-message/300-run fixture. Only document HTML is intercepted for both variants; API requests are real. The common API revision is `109981f8c1`; subsequent commits change only UI and tests. | Usable conversation | Baseline median (range) | Candidate median (range) | | --- | --- | --- | | Cold direct URL | 6.57 s (5.69–7.45) | 3.07 s (2.50–3.28) | | Warm in-app return | 3.76 s (3.54–4.76) | 0.67 s (0.58–1.46) | | Back return | 2.53 s (2.12–4.20) | 0.51 s (0.47–1.18) | Five pairs alternate order. Every paired difference favors the candidate for all three journeys. Readiness requires a revealed, fully visible latest reply above the composer and an editable composer. Return timing starts after the Tasks route renders. Cold API requests fall from 953–954 to 71; API wire bytes fall from 517–559 KB to about 49 KB. Separate CPU profiles and request waterfalls confirm the removal of lifetime event hydration and are excluded from the five timing pairs. Both variants have the same expected missing optional plan document (404) and no browser exceptions. Control recent-window API reads have medians of 37 ms / 32 ms, with shared-host outliers up to 376 ms. The 6,000-message recent-window SQL uses `issue_comments_company_issue_created_at_idx` (22 index rows read for a 21-row probe). Geometry assertions retain a 2-pixel tolerance for the reading anchor and first-reveal layout. These are local synthetic measurements, not deployed staging latency. Earlier timing probes are excluded because they did not isolate service workers or composer clearance. Final head `bf71ffd5afb5684ba9105a3127f617e7adf5139c` has 55 successful checks, three optional skips and one neutral result, with no failures or pending checks. Greptile is 5/5 with no open review findings. ### Failure record Early local attempts exposed an unconditional scroller wrapper that changed the old task layout, and automatic retries on chat page failures. Both were corrected. The original task scroller structure stays in place. Metadata request assertions wait for initial connection recovery to settle, then verify only the new page’s reads; retry/resume/reconnect revalidation remains intentional. The initial review caught a send-before-scroll cache defect; its controller regression failed before the fix. Later rapid-paging checks caught scroll readiness being gated by metadata after the first reveal; readiness now stays enabled once revealed. Live replies use the separate acknowledged-message cache, then catch up from the server cursor. Visual review exposed a pagination wrapper bypassing existing composer clearance. The body is again a direct scroller child; cold-open browser checks require the full latest reply above the composer. A resize-observer regression failed before the fix and now passes. Controlled delayed inline images prove both pinned following and a stable reading anchor on desktop/mobile. The first performance fixture lacked valid native event envelopes and caused missing-log fallbacks. It is excluded from latency claims. The final fixture uses saved native assistant events and conversation session generations. The live test uses a temporary fixture-agent key, attributes the reply to an existing synthetic run, and revokes the key. It starts no model or agent process. Local database attempts failed during a Docker shutdown. The retained disposable database was restored and its suite passed. Early fixture errors included a missing conversation identity field and session generation. Mobile test setup also selected an offscreen sidebar link and reused queued human input. Optional announcements could intercept input; the fixture now dismisses them before the journeys. The scroll observer now waits for the delivered wheel event and settled animation frames, including when the viewport is already at the top. A concurrently running live test briefly changed another probe’s row count; the final acceptance and timing runs were sequential on separate fixtures. The final rig uses the visible mobile navigation and a saved agent reply. Anchor observation waits for the user's scroll to settle before measuring the effect of live updates. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt hit repeated embedded PostgreSQL initialization failures and failures in untouched native-session executor suites; it was stopped after the repeated environment failures. The targeted real-PostgreSQL suite passed, and final-head CI is required before handoff. The first CI run also caught an exact mock expectation missing the added company scope; the expectation is updated and its 179-test suite passes. The final-head first CI attempt also stalled an assigned child task in the existing plan-approval scenario, then hit a heartbeat-run row lock timeout during fixture cleanup. The failed shard and aggregate check passed on an unchanged rerun of the same commit. Scenario assertions and timeouts were unchanged. The failure and rerun are retained in [CI run 41116120430](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41116120430). ## Risks - Historical transcript diagnostics no longer load on a cold chat open. Saved messages and conversation events remain available; diagnostic run views keep their full records. - Cursor paging must not omit comments with equal timestamps. Database tests cover timestamp/UUID ordering and the complete set. - Prepended or late content can move the reader. Browser checks cover retained row identity, viewport offsets, mounted drafts, and Back. Previously loaded pages stay in the query cache for its existing lifetime. - Local synthetic evidence does not establish deployed staging latency. This PR does not merge or deploy the change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact backend deployment ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (affected checks; limits are recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): restore fast Coordinator task and inbox loading (#18323)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage work done by agents. > - Tasks, Inbox, and Needs You must stay usable as work history grows. > - The Coordinator views bypassed some existing collection optimizations. > - Navigation fetched complete decision cards for a count, and Tasks mounted every loaded row. > - This PR uses the canonical attention rules for small count and task-ID responses. It also restores bounded rendering and the optimized Inbox selection. > - The benefit is less data and less initial rendering work without a second definition of pending work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Coordinator navigation fetched the full attention feed on every cold collection visit. Tasks rendered the entire loaded collection. Coordinator could also select the old Inbox loader when Streamlined UI was off. **Expected behavior** Fetch only the projection needed by each surface. Start with a bounded set of rows. Keep complete task membership, accurate counts, current permissions, and stable loaded rows. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable Coordinator and open Tasks or Inbox with an empty browser query cache. 2. Observe a complete attention-card download for the navigation badge. 3. Open a large task list and observe that every loaded row mounts at once. 4. Disable Streamlined UI while keeping Coordinator enabled, then open Mine and observe three overlapping compact task reads. Related work: #17756, #3744, #17983, and #18312. ## What Changed - Add board-only attention count and complete task-ID projections. Reuse canonical company, privacy, addressee, deduplication, dismissal, snooze, and archive rules. Skip card bodies, plan/image reads, and presentation roster lookup. - Share the small count read across desktop and mobile navigation. Reuse the page-owned response on Needs You and Needs attention. Keep the newest known count through navigation, including zero. - Use the task-ID index for Needs attention and keep task row hydration in batches of at most 100. - Render 100 task rows initially, across the whole expanded tree. Reveal 150 more at a time through scrolling or a button. Keep existing rows through refresh and append. Defer offscreen leaf layout with shared tokens. - Keep Coordinator on the optimized Inbox when Streamlined UI is off. Use index reads for expanded project recents. - Add real-database, component, and production-build browser regression checks. Update the access and feature maps. ## Verification - All required CI checks pass on `1c68ac8957490a6c8585ba0939355f536c8120bf`: typecheck, build, server/workspace tests, serialized database suites, and eight E2E shards. Greptile is **5/5**, with its row-retention finding fixed and the review thread resolved. Storybook checks were intentionally skipped; Paperclip Review completed neutral. - Workspace typecheck and production build passed locally. The final rebased source also passed UI typecheck and production build. Token gates and map checks passed. - The attention service suite passed all 34 tests on disposable PostgreSQL. Final targeted checks cover compact projections, complete-set counts, quality approvals, snoozes, private tasks, and board/company access. Database response capture confirms compact projections do not read plans or images. All 31 OpenAPI tests passed after registering both endpoint contracts. - Six production-build browser journeys passed: desktop, mobile, Coordinator Inbox with Streamlined UI off, Needs You, Needs attention, and an older server page followed by task open/Back. They verify the initial 100-row budget, scrolling, retained DOM identity/height, one owner per attention read, complete task membership, 220 retained rows on Back, and less than 2 px of return-position difference. - The row-budget and Inbox regressions fail against original source and pass with this change. The final three affected UI suites passed 40 tests, and the broader Inbox/IssuesList suites passed 101 tests serially. ### Controlled production-build comparison Baseline `b31ec0a2dc079e32272a8f618425fe92b68bbaec` versus PR head `1c68ac8957490a6c8585ba0939355f536c8120bf`. Isolated baseline asset `index-CS9uPxMx.js`; candidate asset `index-BxJeTQ30.js`. Both UI builds used the same warm disposable API server and database, with 220 tasks and 110 pending board approvals. Chromium **151.0.7922.34**, 1440 × 900 viewport, **4× CPU throttle**, loopback with no added network latency, alternating baseline/candidate order. Cold cases use a new browser context with network cache disabled; warm cases navigate within the same context. Other host workloads are uncontrolled. Readiness requires the destination collection's first visible task row, then two animation frames. Inbox readiness waits for its canonical Mine route so previous-page rows cannot satisfy the measurement. Five paired samples per case; cold Inbox has a second five-pair confirmation wave because the first result was slower. Times below are **milliseconds**; parentheses show min–max. Paired savings are the median of individual before-minus-after pairs, not the difference between medians. | Journey | Pairs | Baseline median (range) | Candidate median (range) | Median paired saving | Faster pairs | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | | Cold Tasks | 5 | 2752 (2542–3025) | 2300 (2275–2524) | 328 | 5/5 | | Cold Inbox | 10 | 2536 (2283–2927) | 2582 (2117–2856) | 37 | 5/10 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 5 | 2054 (1826–2479) | 1448 (1419–1548) | 635 | 5/5 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 5 | 2020 (1485–2254) | 1568 (1289–1848) | 350 | 5/5 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 5 | 1747 (1609–1948) | 1327 (1238–1355) | 472 | 5/5 | Cold Tasks, warm Tasks, warm Inbox, and Back improved in every measured pair. **Cold Inbox latency is inconclusive:** the two waves pointed in opposite directions, with the candidate faster in 5/10 pairs. This PR claims less badge work there, not a proven cold Inbox latency improvement. The canonical badge response shrank from **200,039 to 359 decoded bytes** (encoded HTTP transfer: **8,125 to 598 bytes**). The compact response also skips card payloads, plans, images, and presentation-only roster work. These are measured mechanism reductions, separate from end-to-end latency. Needs You still owns its full card feed; Needs attention owns its complete task-ID projection. Reproduction setup and assertions are in `tests/perf/collections/README.md`. <details> <summary>Individual paired readiness measurements (ms)</summary> | Journey | Pair | Baseline | Candidate | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | | Cold Tasks | 1 | 3025 | 2283 | | Cold Tasks | 2 | 2542 | 2275 | | Cold Tasks | 3 | 2752 | 2424 | | Cold Tasks | 4 | 2783 | 2300 | | Cold Tasks | 5 | 2641 | 2524 | | Cold Inbox | 1 | 2927 | 2702 | | Cold Inbox | 2 | 2422 | 2629 | | Cold Inbox | 3 | 2409 | 2606 | | Cold Inbox | 4 | 2621 | 2769 | | Cold Inbox | 5 | 2539 | 2856 | | Cold Inbox | 6 | 2283 | 2117 | | Cold Inbox | 7 | 2466 | 2558 | | Cold Inbox | 8 | 2674 | 2286 | | Cold Inbox | 9 | 2696 | 2389 | | Cold Inbox | 10 | 2533 | 2183 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 1 | 2479 | 1423 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 2 | 2228 | 1548 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 3 | 2054 | 1419 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 4 | 1826 | 1448 | | Warm Tasks navigation | 5 | 1954 | 1518 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 1 | 2020 | 1661 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 2 | 2198 | 1848 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 3 | 1733 | 1497 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 4 | 2254 | 1568 | | Warm Inbox navigation | 5 | 1485 | 1289 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 1 | 1721 | 1330 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 2 | 1747 | 1275 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 3 | 1948 | 1355 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 4 | 1609 | 1327 | | Task → Back to Tasks | 5 | 1790 | 1238 | </details> ### Failed attempts and limits - The local full repository command hit embedded PostgreSQL startup failures and 16 failures in the untouched native session executor suite; it was stopped. The full local suite is not claimed green. CI on the final revision provides the broad test result. - A concurrent local UI run hit timing failures under host contention. Inbox/IssuesList subsequently passed all 101 tests serially. No tests were weakened to address these timeouts. - CI caught two integration gaps introduced during this work: missing OpenAPI entries for the new endpoints, and an attention fixture incompatible with the routine filters added on master. Both were fixed; the affected 31 OpenAPI and 40 UI tests pass. - The final revision's first CI attempt failed two untouched tests: scheduled-retry batch cancellation and the tool-access audience/archive race. Both failed jobs passed when rerun without changing the revision. Their original failed attempts remain visible in [the workflow history](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41083379875). - Browser evidence uses synthetic disposable data. This PR is not deployed staging or production verification. ## Risks - New attention sources must preserve canonical eligibility. Both projections call the existing collector, so they share its permissions and complete-set behavior. - The count and task-ID caches must not stand in for full decision cards. Each projection has its own key under the existing attention invalidation prefix. - A row budget can omit descendants if applied per parent. The tests cover one global budget across a large expanded tree, refresh, append, reset, and incremental loading. - Local browser evidence uses synthetic data and is not staging deployment proof. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact backend model deployment ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (affected suites; broad-run limitations are listed above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): use the deadline for remote health retries (#18324)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its execution state. > - Remote Runner processes use health reads to check their saved process identity. > - A failed health request cannot prove that the process stopped. > - Three fast gateway errors can exhaust the old retry limit in half a second. > - The caller already gives these reads a shared 30-second recovery budget. > - This pull request uses that budget with backoff for read-only failures. > - A short gateway outage can then clear without stopping the existing turn. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A transient HTTP 502 during sandbox process supervision caused an active native Codex turn to fail. The probe stopped after three attempts, even when most of its 30-second budget remained. The run reported `notification_transport_failed` and required workspace recovery. **Expected behavior** Retry read-only transport failures within the existing deadline. Keep process identity conflicts authoritative. Do not repeat a signal after a lost acknowledgement. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a read-only process verification with a 30-second deadline. 2. Return HTTP 502 from its first three transport reads, then allow the next read to succeed. 3. The old helper rejects after three reads. The fixed helper returns the successful observation. Related repairs: #16451 introduced bounded remote probes. #16835 and #17799 require proof of process exit before replacement. This change retains those guards. ## What Changed - Use the existing absolute deadline instead of a three-attempt limit for read-only probe failures. - Back off from 250 milliseconds to two seconds. Clip each request to ten seconds or the remaining budget. - Preserve the original error and diagnostic when the deadline is exhausted. Reject non-finite deadlines before an RPC. - Add a red/green regression and a repeated-gateway-failure case around a real listening process. - Update execution semantics and both recovery maps. ## Verification - Before the fix: the new probe suite failed two behavioral assertions. The gateway case returned its HTTP 502 error instead of the later successful observation. - After the fix: 75 focused probe, diagnostic, process-supervision and adoption tests pass. The diagnostic failure tests use a controlled clock for their full 30-second budget. Their error and redaction assertions stay unchanged. - Map alignment and module-boundary checks pass. - Full workspace typecheck and build pass at final commit `ddd42f66378ebc36ec1d7e0ca1f45943473561b3`. - The broader affected suite against disposable PostgreSQL passed 994 of 997 tests; its three startup/database timeouts passed unchanged in isolation. The initial full default local run encountered embedded PostgreSQL startup failures and did not complete. The four diagnostic tests that assumed the old short retry timing now use a controlled clock without weakening their assertions. - Incident evidence came from Linux AMD64, Node 24.22.2, Core commit `0c70cedce9a803bdc201324528abb35e423e7cd0`, native Codex `gpt-6.1-sol`, and a shared ChatGPT subscription. Two separate runs recorded the same supervision HTTP 502 within one second. - A disposable live Daytona sandbox check passed on Linux x86_64 and Node 24.22.1. Three injected gateway failures recovered in 3.31 seconds on production source from `e54a355fa179022caaa6854302ff56bd85de0229` (unchanged by the final test-only commit). The real Node listening process had one launch, retained its exact identity and saved file across a second read, and produced a confirmed Stop receipt. Sandbox deletion succeeded. This is process-supervision integration evidence, not a Codex task or model execution. - Fixed-revision hosted acceptance and recovery of the original conversation require rollout. This PR does not claim either. The duration of the original provider outage remains unknown. - Final commit `ddd42f66378ebc36ec1d7e0ca1f45943473561b3`: required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` checks pass; Greptile is 5/5 with no inline findings. The separate Paperclip Review service has not completed an assessment and remains queued. It is not a required branch check. ## Risks - Persistent fast transport failures cause more read-only requests within the same deadline. Capped backoff limits their rate. - Missing or changed identity still returns immediately. Failed health reads still cannot authorize replacement, process signals, or provider replay. - Signal requests still have one attempt. The timeout budget and execution permissions do not change. - No schema or package changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6, through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, and shell tool use. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): link routines to a filtered task list (#18317)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Routines create tasks that people need to inspect and manage. > - The routines list sends its View all runs link to Audit. > - Tasks already supports routine origin filters in its API, but the page has no control for them. > - This pull request adds a Routine tasks checkbox and links to that selection. > - People can inspect routine work in the normal task list, search, and board views. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The routines list link and the Tasks filters. **Current behavior** View all runs opens Audit. People cannot select routine-created tasks in the Tasks filter menu. **Proposed behavior** View all tasks opens `/issues?view=all&originKind=routine_execution`. Routine tasks is selected. People can toggle or clear it from Tasks. **Reason and benefit** People can use normal task controls to inspect work created by routines. The filter includes manually started routine runs. It excludes manual tasks and other automatic work. **Breaking changes** The routines list link changes its label and destination. No API, schema, authorization, or routine execution contract changes. ## What Changed - Add Routine tasks under Visibility in the current, streamlined, and legacy Tasks filters. Keep Live runs only in the same group and use Show agent-created tasks with proper capitalization where that control is available. - Keep the selection in the URL through reload, search, task navigation, and checkbox changes. - Apply the existing API origin filter before pagination. Include routine tasks even when other automatic tasks are hidden. - Keep source filtering in the shared task filter module and collection owners. Reuse the existing company-scoped issue-list contract. Hide the live-run control in the design sandbox, which does not load live-run IDs. - Update regression coverage, product docs, feature/access maps, and the toolbar preview. ## Verification - All 58 final-head checks are complete with no failures for `f46c2e409b20fa372d166f4721601a0471894fb0`, including successful `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates. Greptile and Paperclip Review rate this commit 5/5 with no actionable findings or unresolved review threads. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41078093110). - Local checks pass: full repo typecheck/build for the feature, UI typecheck/build after the final refinements, token gates, feature-map checks, and Storybook catalog generation. - Regression coverage exercises both real list implementations, filter grouping and selection, search and all board columns, URL/pagination state, and mixed pending-decision batches. The Visibility update passed all 89 relevant tests across separate runs. The final sandbox correction passes all 10 filter-menu tests, including three cases that reproduced the bug before the fix. The earlier broad UI run passed 10,043 tests across 845 files. - Browser proof used the actual local app with disposable PostgreSQL data: three tasks created through the routine-run API and one manual task. Followed View all tasks; verified the selected Routine tasks checkbox under Visibility, toggling, reload, search, and board view. Checked current, streamlined, and legacy filter presentations. Screenshots show the link, routine-only results, and requested capitalization/grouping. - Failure accounting: the initial broad UI run found two preference expectations that needed the new false default; those were corrected before the full UI pass. Scrolling tests hit five-second timeouts in combined runs and passed in isolated reruns without timeout changes. A duplicate full local UI run was stopped after the earlier final-commit CI UI lanes passed, with no failures reported in that stopped run. - Full local `pnpm test:run` could not complete because native PostgreSQL initialization exhausted the host semaphore pool. A direct initdb probe confirmed `could not create semaphores: No space left on device`. Browser verification used a disposable container; no host settings or other workspace processes were changed. - Review found that the newly exposed live-run control could empty the design sandbox, which has no live-run IDs. The sandbox now disables that unsupported control; its regression test failed before the fix and passes after it. ## Risks - Low risk. The change uses the existing routine origin and read permissions. A routine task remains automatic work, including when a person starts it manually. - The routine checkbox is exposed only on the Tasks collection. Other filter consumers retain their controls and normalize the new field to false. - Routine histories and Audit run links inside routine details keep their current behavior. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6, through Codex, assisted with implementation and verification. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: repository editing, command execution, tests, and browser interaction.

Limit first onboarding to Claude and Codex (#18309)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - First onboarding helps a new user connect the first agent. > - Its provider picker currently includes GitHub Copilot. > - The first setup should offer only Claude and Codex. > - This pull request limits that picker to those two providers. > - Users can still choose other providers when they add more agents. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The model-source picker in first-agent onboarding. **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — the onboarding wizard and its tests. **Current behavior** First onboarding offers GitHub Copilot. It can also expose other providers when their display metadata marks them as recommended. **Proposed behavior** Show only enabled Claude and Codex choices in first onboarding. Keep their automatic native-runner routing on qualified execution environments and the silent legacy fallback on native Windows, with the same provider UI. Keep all supported providers in the later Add Agent flow. Require a visible provider choice when an old draft names a provider that is no longer offered. **Reason and benefit** Keep the first setup focused while preserving provider choice for an existing company. **Breaking changes** Old Copilot or other provider drafts require a new choice in first onboarding. Existing agents, provider APIs, and the Add Agent flow keep their current behavior. **Additional context** Related provider setup work: #15562. This change only narrows the first-onboarding picker. Searches for onboarding/Copilot and first-onboarding PRs found no duplicate change. This is a small improvement to the existing setup flow, consistent with ROADMAP.md. ## What Changed - Limit first-onboarding adapters to Claude and Codex, with existing availability checks. - Remove the Copilot tile, login card, connection state, model discovery, and creation guards from first onboarding. - Retain only migration handling for old Copilot drafts: clear the retired selection/model/flag, restore automatic runner choice, and avoid reusing GitHub bindings when the user selects Claude or Codex. This also works when both onboarding providers are disabled. - Update coverage for provider choices, disabled adapters, and old Copilot and Gemini drafts. - Clear the model when an unavailable saved provider changes to Codex. - Explain how to proceed when both first-onboarding providers are unavailable. - Update the onboarding feature and access maps. - Document the Windows fallback beside automatic runner discovery, with an explicit note to default Windows to native when its runner support is qualified. This inline migration note is an explicit requirement of the change. - Extend both providers' setup coverage for native and legacy availability without forcing a runtime from the browser. ## Verification - 282 tests passed across all onboarding component/route tests and `NewAgentDialog.test.tsx`. This includes the separate adapter-draft suite that CI identified as still expecting Copilot in first onboarding. - The existing server runner-selection suite passed: 231 tests, including native Claude/Codex runtime translation and Windows legacy fallback. This is automated routing coverage; no native Windows end-to-end run is claimed. - UI TypeScript checks and the production UI build passed. - Token gates, feature/access map validation, module-boundary checks, and `git diff --check` passed. - Reviewer command from `ui/`: `pnpm exec vitest run src/components/OnboardingWizard.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizard.adapters.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizard.step.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizardVariant.test.tsx src/components/NewAgentDialog.test.tsx src/lib/onboarding-route.test.ts`. - A separate browser walkthrough on staging completed the Add Agent flow with Codex and confirmed Copilot remained available. That walkthrough used an existing deployment; it does not prove this branch's first-onboarding change. - Ponytail Paperclip Review and Greptile both scored the latest commit `b470f7023ecb6657bd77edefbcaf2ab12fd89414` 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - All latest-head PR checks are complete: 55 passed and 3 neutral/skipped, with no failures or pending checks. Two server shards passed on a single retry after an unchanged timing-sensitive test exceeded its limit and a self-hosted runner lost its connection. No code or test changes were made for the retry. ## Risks - Low scope: the provider filter belongs only to the onboarding wizard. Native Windows runner support is still unmerged (#18250 is only its build/CI baseline), so automatic selection must retain the existing legacy fallback. Platform selection is based on the execution target, not the browser OS. - Users with an old draft for another provider must choose Claude or Codex. Existing agent configuration is not removed. - Instances that disable both providers have no first-onboarding choice. The wizard explains how to enable a provider or use New Agent from the Agents page. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, repository edits, shell commands, and browser UI verification.
