feat(ui): turn Artifacts V1 on for every instance and hide its toggle (#19164)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Artifacts show the output of agent work on the Artifacts page, in the panel Artifacts tab, and in the task thread > - #17228 added the Artifacts V1 presentation behind an experimental setting that is off by default > - The presentation is now ready for all users, so an opt-in toggle is no longer necessary > - A new default alone does not reach all instances, because each experimental write persists every flag > - This pull request removes the toggle and turns V1 on for every instance > - The benefit is one artifact presentation for all users, with an off switch for hosting operators ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17228 Refs #17263 **Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.** Artifacts V1 shows only on instances where an admin turned on an experimental setting. Other users see the previous cards. **Describe the solution you would like** Show Artifacts V1 on all instances. Remove the toggle from Experimental settings. **Describe alternatives you have considered** A new default without a change to the hook. This does not work, because many instances have a stored false that nobody chose, and no toggle would remain to change it. ## What Changed - Removed the Artifacts V1 card from Instance Settings, Experimental. - Changed `enableArtifactsV1` to default on in the schema, the feature catalog, and the settings service. - Changed `resolveArtifactsV1Enabled` to ignore a stored false. It honours false only when the value comes from managed config. - Kept the flag and the previous cards, so a hosting operator can hold V1 off. - Kept the key in the Cloud staging list, so a managed false does not hold V1 off on staging. - Updated unit tests, the Artifacts V1 plan, and the directions-lab Today reference. - Moved the attachment and upload e2e specs and the runner download helper to the V1 rows. - Added V1 tests for a Markdown review: expansion, deep link, and open, raw and download actions. ## Verification - `cd ui && npx vitest run`: one test file failed before its fix. That file tests the previous cards, and it now mocks the hook to off. I reran it with the other changed UI tests, and they pass. I did not repeat the full UI run after the fix. - `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/text-attachment-tabs.spec.ts tests/e2e/artifact-uploads.spec.ts tests/e2e/artifact-tab-arrival.spec.ts`: 10 tests pass on V1. - `tests/e2e/cloud-auth.spec.ts` failed once in CI on a task heading. It does not touch artifacts, and 10 local runs pass. - `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/instance-settings`: 183 tests pass. - `cd packages/shared && npx vitest run src/feature-catalog.test.ts src/validators/instance.test.ts`: 35 tests pass. - `pnpm run check:token-gates` and the `ui` and `server` typechecks pass. I did not run the full repository check. - In the artifact directions lab, with no stored settings, the Today right panel renders the V1 rows. - I did not test this on a live instance. After merge, confirm on staging that the Experimental page has no Artifacts V1 card and that all three surfaces show V1. ## Risks - All users see V1 after the next release, not only staging users. To revert, revert this pull request. - Users cannot turn V1 off. Only a hosting operator can, through managed config, and not on Cloud staging. - An instance with a managed `enableArtifactsV1: false` stays on the previous cards. The cloud harness source has no reference to this key, but I cannot read the live fleet configuration. - V1 surfaces render before settings load. An operator-held instance can briefly show V1 before the previous cards. - Admins who use the API can still write the flag. The write has no effect on unmanaged instances. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(runtime): pre-copy completed harness history before enrollment (#19137)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - An ephemeral web server needs provider history in shared object
storage.
> - Offline enrollment must preserve old backups before it can detach a
volume.
> - A large copied dataset still exceeded the maintenance deadline with
parallel transfers.
> - Most of its bytes belong to successful turns with released runtime
authority.
> - This pull request pre-copies that history while unrelated executions
continue.
> - The final offline migration still verifies every source and grants
enrollment authority.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #19108, #19038, #18943.
**What happened?**
A copied instance has 1,953 local harness backups and 54.8 GB of
declared source bytes. A resumed parallel migration still reached its
25-minute deadline. It cannot safely enroll by moving all history during
maintenance.
**Expected behavior**
Copy eligible completed history while the server remains online. Defer
active, failed or changed sources. Keep all existing data and final
enrollment checks.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Retain many local native harness backups on a volume-backed instance.
2. Attempt a full offline conversion within the maintenance deadline.
3. Observe that most time moves historical bytes rather than current
execution state.
## What Changed
- Add finite `native-harness-prestage.mjs` preparation from a normal
runtime build. Require explicit opt-in and shared object storage.
Process one source at a time with a 90-minute deadline.
- Use the recorded released runtime owner of each successful, finished
turn. Do not assert that all writers stopped.
- Recheck checkout, related queued/running work, successful result
ownership, session, Runner, exact lease stamp and unchanged backup at
database publication fences.
- Defer source changes, malformed source JSON and unsafe backup roots.
Log each such source and its reason. Keep database failures and
cancellation fatal. Keep completed objects valid for retry. Never return
an enrollment-ready receipt.
- Reuse the bounded migration source walker. Keep offline admission and
final verification unchanged.
- Keep private lifecycle state, task ownership and provider policies
unchanged. Document the operator path and its limits.
## Verification
- A zero-source scan now checks the existing database obligation query.
A known mismatch blocks with a source-missing receipt; empty
fresh/already-durable scans and nonempty deferred scans remain valid
advisory results. The prior command fails the mismatch regression. All
16 command and runtime-bundle tests pass for this follow-up.
- At head `7ba3dbc7aa`, 87 focused command, database-timeout, storage,
archive, publication and runtime-bundle tests passed with real
PostgreSQL and filesystem restoration.
- The current follow-up passes all 68 backup and archive tests. A source
renamed after preparation fails the new regression on the previous head,
then defers and permits the next backup with this fix. An archive output
ENOENT remains fatal. Existing database-error and cancellation tests
pass.
- New race tests fail against the previous storage owner: a changed
backup, queued turn or revoked lease otherwise publishes.
- Tests prove unrelated executions stay running, same-task work defers,
failed history stays deferred, retry verifies existing objects, and
private bytes restore after deleting the old home.
- Command review fixes require the configured existing vault key, retain
it for the process, set database lock/statement/idle bounds, close
clients on cancellation, and cap shutdown at ten seconds. Abort
immediately sets failure status and prints one blocked receipt. A real
child with real shortened timers reproduces the old missing-receipt exit
and verifies the fix. Tests also use a real PostgreSQL lock.
- Malformed manifest or runner JSON and symlink replacement fail the new
preparation and publication-fence regressions on the previous code. The
fixed command defers each damaged source and copies the next eligible
backup. Separate tests keep database SyntaxError and cancellation fatal.
Offline migration still rejects damaged sources.
- The bundle test runs the emitted preparation entry with plain Node
without starting the app.
- A prior copied-data experiment completed with 1,738 new publications,
nine verified current objects and 206 deferred sources. Later checks
found different database and filesystem capture times: 43 source runs
were absent from the older database snapshot, and one required
historical manifest was absent from the retained filesystem archive.
This experiment does not prove a consistent restore or enrollment
readiness.

fix(workspaces): preserve retained branches and private commit sources (#19147)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Ephemeral web servers must preserve existing task files before
volume removal.
> - An old private checkout can be absent while its recorded branch
still exists.
> - A deleted branch can also retain its exact commit in the original
private object source.
> - The importer currently rejects these surviving sources.
> - This pull request saves the verified committed tree and records its
exact source proof.
> - It keeps task state, branch ownership and recovery obligations
unchanged.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #19138, #19144, #18826.
**What happened?**
Existing Git workspace records can have missing checkout folders and
retained branch objects. The importer returns
`local_source_unsafe_or_missing`. A successful deletion receipt can also
have a valid private object source that the importer overlooks in favor
of a missing or changed project cache.
**Expected behavior**
Save the surviving committed tree from the exact recorded branch or
deletion receipt. Reject competing owners, live worktree registrations,
changed branches and invalid source identities. Do not use the current
default branch as a substitute.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Retain an isolated workspace branch in its managed project cache.
2. Remove its clean checkout but keep the branch and original workspace
record.
3. Attempt workspace migration.
4. Alternatively, retain a deleted commit in its recorded private source
while its shared source is unavailable.
## What Changed
- Pin a retained branch in its verified company and project Git cache.
- Require the recorded private path, no competing workspace owner and no
surviving Git worktree registration or index authority.
- For a user-owned branch, require its exact successful unforced removal
receipt after archival. Preserve the branch ownership metadata.
- Prefer a verified recorded private object source for successful
deletion receipts when that source still exists.
- Recheck branch and receipt proof before publication. Preserve
compatibility with existing migration journals.
- Allow missing active records only through the existing offline writer
fence. Keep their status unchanged.
- Add byte-restoration and rejected-authority tests. Document the source
limits.
- Revalidate and honor interrupted journals' original Git source path.
Reject detached registrations and retained orphan index data. Reuse the
cleanup producer command formatter for paths containing spaces.
## Verification
- 172 focused migration, concurrency and isolated-source tests pass with
real PostgreSQL and Git repositories.
- The previous importer fails the retained-branch and offline-active
restoration cases. The previous source selection also fails the
private-cache and clean user-owned receipt cases.
- Tests remove the old home and restore the pinned commit and task file
bytes. New shared default-branch work is excluded.
- Tests reject competing owners, registered worktrees, missing branch
ownership, deleted branches, changed branch tips, forced removal and
revoked receipts.
- Read-only re-inventory of 79 actual failed source records makes 78
eligible with committed owner overlays. One older local test repository
remains blocked. This is source-overlay qualification, not full
released-image acceptance.
- A separate bounded archive replay completed six imports before its
25-minute deadline. That timing failure remains open; it does not
establish complete migration.
- Local server typecheck has no changed-file diagnostics. Stale linked
declarations prevent a clean local whole-server result. Full clean CI
remains required.
- Serving enrollment and empty-home recovery remain separate acceptance
gates.

fix(workspaces): preserve task-only warnings during offline migration (#19144)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Ephemeral web servers must save existing workspaces before volume
removal.
> - Offline migration checks file ownership and recovery authority.
> - The same gate also rejects task assignment and configuration
warnings.
> - Those warnings do not require the old filesystem.
> - This pull request preserves known task-only warnings while it saves
files.
> - File recovery and execution obligations keep their existing
blockers.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #18943, #19038, #19138.
**What happened?**
Offline workspace migration refuses tasks with assignment,
configuration, disposition or deliberate-wait warnings. It returns
`workspace_recovery_unresolved` even when the warning has no file or
execution recovery authority.
**Expected behavior**
Save local workspace bytes while retaining the task warning unchanged.
Continue to block unknown recovery kinds, file sources, export failures
and execution recovery work.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Retain a local workspace on a task with an active assignment or
configuration warning.
2. Stop all app writers through the offline maintenance entry.
3. Attempt workspace migration.
## What Changed
- Admit four known task-only warning kinds during offline file
migration.
- Keep file recovery markers, system recovery, native failure markers,
export-failure causes and unknown kinds blocked unless their exact
legacy source is already preserved.
- Keep the existing live-migration recovery exclusion.
- Recheck warning evidence before publication. Do not resolve warnings
or change their owners.
- Add restoration, rejection and publication-race tests. Update the
migration plan.
## Verification
- 112 focused migration and concurrency tests pass with real PostgreSQL
and filesystem archives.
- The four task-only restoration cases fail against the previous
importer with `workspace_recovery_unresolved`.
- Tests delete the old home, restore its saved bytes and compare each
warning row unchanged.
- File and execution markers, unknown kinds and export failures remain
blocked.
- A task warning that gains file recovery during upload prevents
publication.
- Local server typecheck has no changed-file diagnostics. Stale linked
dependency declarations prevent a clean local whole-server result. Clean
full CI remains required before merge.
- The PR was rebased onto the merged Git preservation fix after
resolving a plan-document conflict. The rebased head passed full PR CI

fix(workspaces): restore archived commits from verified project objects (#19138)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - An ephemeral web server must preserve historical task files outside its local disk. > - Archived isolated Git workspaces can have a successful branch-deletion receipt. > - Their private checkout can be gone while the project cache still owns the exact commit. > - The importer rejects that cache because it applies private-checkout validation. > - This pull request validates the managed object source for receipt-based restoration. > - The importer restores the recorded commit without using the current shared working tree. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18826, #18943, #19038. **What happened?** An archived isolated workspace has a valid successful cleanup receipt and a retained commit. Offline migration rejects it with `archived_git_source_unavailable,local_source_unsafe_or_missing`. The private checkout was removed. The company and project cache still contains the exact commit. **Expected behavior** Restore the immutable commit from the verified project object cache. Keep strict validation for saved private edit recipes. Reject missing receipts, a foreign cache, a different origin and revoked cleanup authority. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create an isolated Git workspace from a managed project cache. 2. Archive it and retain its successful branch-deletion receipt. 3. Remove its private checkout while the verified project cache retains that commit. 4. Attempt offline workspace migration. ## What Changed - Extract the existing managed Git object-source validator. - Use that validator only for exact successful deletion receipts that refer to a canonical company and project cache. - Keep private restore-point source validation unchanged. - Fetch immutable objects at the recorded commit into private scratch. Recheck receipt authority before publication. - Add real Git and database tests for restoration and rejected authority changes. Document the preservation path. ## Verification - 129 focused migration, concurrency and isolated-source tests pass across three files. - The new restoration case fails against the previous importer with the reported source-unavailable error. - Tests remove the old home and restore the retained commit. A newer shared working tree and unrelated files are excluded. - Tests reject a foreign company cache, wrong origin, missing receipt and receipt revocation during upload. - Local server typecheck has no diagnostics in changed files. Stale linked dependency declarations prevent a clean local whole-server result. Current-head full CI passes (54 passing checks, three skipped). Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - A replay of the 32 affected records is running in an isolated staging copy. Two committed owner overlays are under test. This is not released-image or serving-instance acceptance. ## Risks - A deletion receipt must identify an exact commit that still exists. Missing objects continue to block migration. - Shared working-tree contents must never substitute for archived private files. Only the recorded commit is fetched through this path. - The change does not recreate private edit authority, retire recovery records or alter serving configuration. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6.1 Codex, exact model ID `gpt-6.1-sol`. Used for reasoning, code editing, shell tools and test execution. The runtime does not expose its context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runtime): bound parallel offline harness backup transfers (#19108)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - An ephemeral web server must retain provider history outside its
local disk.
> - Offline enrollment moves verified local harness backups to object
storage.
> - A cold rehearsal reached 699 current backup rows while processing
1,953 sources before its 25-minute deadline.
> - The serial transfer loop prevents this existing dataset from
enrolling.
> - This pull request overlaps at most four transfers within the
existing total scratch limit.
> - The benefit is faster preservation with the same ownership and
publication checks.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #19038, #18943, #18932.
**What happened?**
Offline enrollment processed 1,953 local provider backups one at a time.
The normal Cloud image reached 699 current backup rows (including nine
pre-existing rows) before maintenance expired. The serving instance
remained unchanged during the isolated test.
**Expected behavior**
Enrollment must preserve every source within bounded time and disk use.
It must stop all in-flight transfers before it reports failure.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Prepare a settled instance with multiple verified native harness
backups.
2. Run offline enrollment against shared object storage.
3. Observe that the serial owner waits for each archive, upload,
readback and publication before starting the next source.
## What Changed
- Process groups of up to four verified offline harness backups.
- Reserve space for the archive and encrypted copy before each group
starts. Keep the total scratch limit equal to one maximum-size serial
transfer.
- Derive a smaller archive limit from a closed manifest directory set.
Preserve unlisted files with an exclusive maximum-size reservation.
- Enforce the reservation while streaming. Keep the existing maximum for
ordinary runtime backups.
- Cancel and await peer transfers after failure. Keep completed
publications valid for retry.
- Preserve the original archive-stream failure when the tar writer also
fails after destruction.
- Document the migration bound and add integration regressions for
overlap, restoration, cancellation, retry, extra files and archive
limits.
## Verification
- Serial baseline: the new overlap regression fails with one active
transfer when four are required.
- Candidate: 59 targeted tests pass with real PostgreSQL, S3, filesystem
archives and restored provider bytes. The bundled-entry test is skipped
locally because this source worktree has no runtime bundle. The full
normal image rehearsal remains required.
- Follow-up: 48 archive/storage checks pass after correcting the
PAX-header allowance. The real encoder produces a 972,801,024-byte
full-entry projection, above the old 805,306,368-byte allowance and
below the new 1,024,001,024-byte bound. The existing global object limit
remains in force. The old formula fails the new regression. Exact-size
restoration and one-byte-over-limit rejection pass.
- The previous revision passed full CI after one setup-route timeout
retry. That failure remains recorded; the corrected current revision

fix(runtime): preserve failed sources and durable checkpoint authority (#19038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A volume-free web server must preserve retained native session data. > - An old failed follow-up can keep its own snapshot while its controller file still belongs to the preceding successful turn. > - The Runner correctly refuses to import that file as the failed turn's execution authority. > - That refusal also blocks migration when no warm supervisor is present. > - This pull request preserves the file after it proves the older run's lineage, and uses existing typed database authority when present. > - Failed history and files survive, while normal execution authority stays unchanged. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #19024, which preserves the related older-supervisor case. The duplicate search found no PR for this older-controller case. **What happened?** Offline native-controller migration stops with `native_runner_checkpoint_binding_mismatch` for a failed retained follow-up. The local controller still contains the preceding successful run. A per-turn source can have no supervisor file, so the older-supervisor archive path does not apply. Read-only checks matched the database snapshots and controller-file hashes between the original source and the isolated rehearsal copy. **Expected behavior** Preserve the available file as evidence through the existing encrypted archive. Require a valid older controller, a completed successful prior run, and the same company, agent, task, native session, Runner and provider thread. Keep successful sources and active owners outside this archival fallback. When a valid typed database checkpoint already exists, derive only its missing recovery metadata and ignore obsolete local projections. **Steps to reproduce** Create a successful native turn and a later failed follow-up in the same session. Retain the successful controller file. Keep the failed snapshot and admitted input in the database. Leave the per-turn source without a supervisor. Run offline migration. The new positive regression fails with the binding mismatch before this change. ## What Changed - Share the scoped older-successful-run proof with the existing supervisor preservation path. - Validate the older controller through the Runner parser and artifact checks before archive publication. - Archive this failed legacy source without changing its snapshot, status, ownership, queued work or session pointer. - Preserve the normal refusal for foreign, changed, active, successful, invalid and already-durable cases. - Permit evidence archival for a stale observed coordinator only with exact host-owned stop receipts for every remote lease, no current task ownership, no result and no retry deadline. Recheck the proof before publication. - Use execution start for lifecycle ordering. A queued follow-up can predate its prior turn completion, and a remote stop can predate a later recovery timeout. - Resolve destruction receipts through the existing reusable-lease handoff verifier. Reject stopped tips, broken chains and competing tips. - Prefer a valid typed database checkpoint over a stale or absent local warm supervisor. Add only missing recovery metadata after current admitted-input and checkpoint binding checks. - Document the evidence and execution-authority boundary. ## Verification - Positive regression: red before the owner change and green afterward. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/native-runtime/native-controller-migration.integration.test.ts server/src/services/native-runtime/native-controller-recovery.integration.test.ts server/src/services/native-runtime/native-harness-backup-storage.integration.test.ts`: 81 checks passed across migration, recovery and durable storage. - The checks cover storage failure, repeated migration, exact file restoration after old-home deletion, unchanged history and ownership, and refusal to treat the archive as executable recovery authority. - A second regression reproduced the archive fence refusal for an observed failed source with a valid stopped-remote receipt. Negative controls cover missing, foreign, old and revoked receipts, live leases, pending results, retry deadlines and task ownership. Revoking the receipt during upload prevents publication. - Two additional regressions cover a follow-up queued before the prior turn finished and a remote stop before a later logical failure. Both fail with the earlier timestamp comparisons and pass with execution-start ordering. Genuine execution overlap and old receipts stay blocked. - Two historical source snapshots and controller-file hashes matched in a read-only live-versus-copy check. The first candidate reached the archive fence and exposed the observed-coordinator case. That failure is retained. A fresh candidate replay is required for the expanded proof. It does not qualify the full packaged migration or hosted Railway handoff. - Existing typed-authority checks cover stale and missing supervisors, repeat migration, byte-identical checkpoint rows, unchanged snapshots/owners/history, old-home deletion and ordinary queued-turn recovery. Foreign Runner, session and snapshot controls remain blocked. - Handoff checks cover an exact destroyed successor, a stopped successor, a broken proof and a competing tip. - Isolated replay of the two retained typed-checkpoint sources imported only derived recovery metadata. Checks confirmed unchanged checkpoint rows (12 and 9 parts), history, snapshots, finalization owners and task-session pointers. The replay used three source-module overlays with a blocked provider network; it does not qualify the released bundle. - Final-head CI attempt 1 passed typecheck, build and the migration suites but failed one unrelated budget-concurrency assertion in `decision-models.test.ts` (one provider call observed instead of two). The original log is retained. The isolated local comparison cannot classify the timing failure because this checkout has stale linked budget schema exports. The one retry of that failed CI job passed, and final-head CI attempt 2 is green. The original failure remains retained; its cause is not established. - Full local typecheck, repository tests and build are not claimed. The server typecheck reports pre-existing linked declaration mismatches outside the changed files; the full clean CI typecheck has passed. This checkout uses linked generated declarations; clean CI is required before merge. Prior head |

fix(runtime): preserve failed sources with older warm supervisors (#19024)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A volume-free web server needs durable recovery data for retained sessions. > - An old failed follow-up can retain its snapshot while the warm supervisor still holds the preceding successful turn. > - The migration refuses to treat those different snapshots as the same execution authority. > - That refusal also blocks the tenant even when the failed source can be preserved as an archive. > - This pull request archives that narrow case after it verifies the older successful snapshot and all scope bindings. > - The failed run keeps its history and files while valid controller recovery keeps its existing proof requirements. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18959, which added the existing failed-controller archive path. No duplicate PR for this case was found. **What happened?** Offline controller migration stops with `stale_supervisor_snapshot` for an old failed warm follow-up. Its local supervisor still contains the prior successful turn. Read-only checks found the same database snapshot and supervisor bytes in the live source and the isolated copy. The mismatch predates the rehearsal. **Expected behavior** Preserve the failed run's database state and available local files in the existing durable archive. Only archive when the older supervisor matches a completed successful run in the same company, agent, task, native session and Runner instance. Keep current execution and controller authority checks intact. **Steps to reproduce** Create a successful native turn and a later failed warm follow-up. Keep the successful snapshot in the supervisor file and the failed snapshot in the database. Give the failed source local controller bytes but no durable controller checkpoint. Run the offline migration. The new regression fails with `stale_supervisor_snapshot` before this change. ## What Changed - Verify the older supervisor against scoped successful history and the same provider thread. - Use the existing encrypted archive owner for that failed legacy source. - Preserve snapshots, run status, ownership, queued work and the session's last-run pointer. - Keep foreign, changed, active, successful and already-durable sources outside this path. - Document the preservation and recovery boundary. ## Verification - New positive regression: red on the original owner, green after the change. - Native migration and controller recovery: 27 checks passed. Final migration checks also cover refusal to replace a durable checkpoint. - Storage failure blocks publication. Repeated migration is safe. The archive restores the exact controller and supervisor bytes after the old home is deleted. - The archived failed source does not gain executable recovery authority. - Local server typecheck is blocked by reused workspace declarations for accounting, bootstrap and ingress contracts. No diagnostic names either modified owner or test file. Full local typecheck, repo-wide tests and build are not claimed; clean CI is required before merge. The exact-head CI has now passed typecheck, build, policy, Runner checks, browser E2E, and all server test shards. - Rehearsal verification against the copied historical source remains required. Full tenant migration and hosted deployment qualification remain separate gates. ## Risks The archive preserves evidence for an already failed source. It does not certify that source as resumable. A prior snapshot must match exactly, and the normal archive owner checks the terminal failed binding before it publishes. Existing durable checkpoints remain authoritative. A missing or changed proof still blocks migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-6.1-sol`, with reasoning, tool use and code execution. The host does not expose context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the bug template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally; retained failures and limits are listed above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runtime): bound checkpoint data and preserve durable failed sessions (#18959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Native Runner checkpoints preserve controller state across server replacements. > - Enrollment imports legacy controller state into those durable checkpoints. > - The importer passed extra source fields into each encrypted record, duplicating the whole source and exhausting memory. > - Some failed runs already had durable checkpoints but no session snapshot. Re-importing them incorrectly required resumable state. > - This PR stores only each record's binding and contents, and preserves matching failed checkpoints without changing their recovery status. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18957 and #18943. **What happened?** A 538-record migrated checkpoint stored 1,108,851,510 bytes of encrypted material. Every record included the full 1.4 MB legacy source. Large writes disconnected and later reads exhausted memory. **Expected behavior** Each encrypted record contains only its company, issue, run, part and contents. **Steps to reproduce** Run offline controller migration with a retained controller that has many commands. Decrypt a saved envelope and inspect its fields. The old writer also includes the entire offline migration input. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `a1f3637c96dfadaf3a15ae9c83aa8227f4fed20e`. ## What Changed - Serialize only company, issue, run, part and contents in encrypted checkpoint envelopes. - Preserve an already-durable failed checkpoint when its run, runner and session match and the legacy session snapshot is absent. Keep its failure, recovery blockers, owner and pointers unchanged. - Report the number of failed checkpoints preserved during maintenance. - Test exact encrypted contents, idempotent preservation after removing the old home, and rejection of successful or foreign-session sources. - Document the migration findings and verification boundaries. ## Verification - The oversized-envelope regression failed before the serializer fix. - The already-durable failed-source regression failed before the preservation fix. - Four focused test files: 44 tests passed. The migration suite passed all 5 tests again after adding the foreign-session control. - Server typecheck passed. Greptile reviewed `c4f02a064c` at 5/5 with no findings. The exact-head PR workflow passed, including typecheck, build and all required tests. - Live staging repair preserved all 16 affected checkpoint sets: 2,982 records, 6,400,144,676 bytes reduced to 15,419,528 bytes. Each record matched its legacy source and passed re-encryption verification. Original encrypted rows and source files remain on the retained volume. - Full hosted enrollment and active-agent deployment proof remain pending. Deployment will follow the normal staging release pipeline. ## Risks The serializer affects normal and migrated checkpoint writes. The decoder already accepts the same five fields and continues to accept older envelopes. Preservation applies only to a failed run with an exact, validated durable checkpoint and no session snapshot; it grants no new recovery authority. This change does not rewrite existing database records automatically. Existing failures and missing provider files remain failures until their owning recovery path resolves them. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use and code execution. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(runtime): preserve legacy identities and bound checkpoint imports (#18957)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Ephemeral web servers must preserve native Runner sessions before removing local storage. > - Legacy session imports validate the workspace and saved provider authority. > - A protocol lease can retain a logical workspace ID while copy-back uses a separate physical sandbox lease ID. > - Comparing these different IDs blocks valid legacy sessions during enrollment. > - This pull request checks the workspace binding, retains the full saved protocol identity check, and bounds checkpoint inserts inside the owner transaction. > - Existing sessions can migrate without changing their identity or discarding files. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18943 and #18841. **What happened?** The first full staging enrollment stopped with `native_controller_migration_artifact_binding`. A successful native session had valid controller and provider-pack identities, but its physical sandbox lease had a different ID. **Expected behavior** Import the original session when its workspace and saved provider authority match. Reject foreign workspaces and protocol identities. **Steps to reproduce** Create a retained session whose sync record points to the execution workspace and a separate physical lease. Run the offline controller migration. The prior comparison rejects this valid record. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `84aa989bf9d08fc005ac273c37f9e1d860a4db25`. **Deployment mode** Docker with external PostgreSQL and shared object storage. ## What Changed - Compare the sync record's workspace ID with the frozen execution workspace. - Keep the full saved provider-pack check for company, agent, workspace, session, Runner, protocol lease, remote path, and provider digest. - Use distinct physical and protocol IDs in the database-backed migration fixture. Reject a foreign workspace and a changed protocol lease before any checkpoint import. - Limit migration inserts to 64 records and about 512 KiB of serialized rows per statement. Send a larger individual record alone. Keep all statements in the same transaction. - Verify that a conflict in a later batch rolls back earlier batches, then import and decrypt the complete checkpoint. - Record both live failures and the comparison evidence in the preservation plan. ## Verification - The updated fixture failed on the original comparison and passes with this fix. - Targeted migration, controller recovery, and provider authority tests: 39 passed. - Full repository typecheck and the latest server typecheck passed locally. The complete PR workflow passed on `a1f3637c96` (run 41827558125), including build and test gates. The Docker Compose setup download failed once before the test step; its infrastructure retry passed. A separate full local test/build run is still in progress. - A read-only staging preflight inspected 807 selected legacy sessions. It found zero mismatches under the corrected workspace and full saved-provider checks. - A single 538-record, 2.2 MB checkpoint insert repeatedly closed the live database connection on pooled and direct endpoints. A forced-rollback comparison imported the identical checkpoint with batches of 64. An unbatched control failed again after cache warm-up. The exact server-side disconnect cause remains unknown; all failed receipts are retained. - The original failed enrollment and volume are retained. The corrected importer committed 32 additional sessions and 2,982 checkpoint records. Full import and deploy handoff remain pending while memory use is investigated. ## Risks The import checks durable session authority. A weaker identity check could import the wrong session. This change retains the saved provider authority validation and adds an explicit foreign-protocol rejection test. Batching adds statements for large imports, but a late failure still rolls back the complete owner transaction. It does not rewrite session identity, change provider lifecycle, or detach any volume. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Preserve native sessions through legacy workspace enrollment (#18943)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A native session retains its workspace and provider session across turns. > - An ephemeral web server must restore those files without its predecessor's disk. > - Legacy enrollment changes the workspace authority and can change both workspace addresses. > - The retained provider backup checks those addresses as part of its identity. > - This pull request preserves the exact addresses in a verified migration receipt. > - The benefit is that the next turn can use the original session after enrollment. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18932, merged as `612d9931a6`. This pull request builds on that all-Runner durability change. Related: #18918 fixes concurrent workspace preservation locks. This change covers identity preservation during offline enrollment. ## What Changed - The native workspace migration owner records the selected session bindings in the successful workspace migration operation. - Runtime selection retains the original logical address only for the exact agent, task and session. - Remote workspace preparation restores the original provider address. It refuses conflicting targets, forged receipts and occupied unowned roots. - The environment owner includes the migration operation in the reusable lease fingerprint. Warm policy stays warm and receives a fresh allocation through normal lease cleanup. - Exact migration evidence permits the existing verified provider backup to restore into that fresh warm allocation. - Preserve verified provider allocation files through a normalized, lease-bound digest receipt. Unknown files and altered markers remain refused; interrupted publication is retryable. - Retain legacy managed-instruction session fingerprints using the exact imported content hash and recorded paths, preserving all other configuration and credential checks. - Migrate existing local skill archive/manifest objects through upload claims, readback verification and receipt compare-and-swap; retain original objects and IDs. - Add explicit two-turn browser qualification for every released native Daytona profile, with warm and per-turn variants. The production maintenance entry runs offline. The old home is deleted only after a verified export and successor readiness. The oracle checks provider identity, native session, addresses, reference bytes, question and final document. ## Verification - Full repository typecheck passed at `b12ecd823e`. The production session fix passed 198 session/credential tests. Full repository build passed at `94bb917947`. The final Rust-only provider fix passed 57 ACPX provider tests and the exact Linux release build. - Workspace and transport checks passed: 117 transport/workspace tests, six final real PostgreSQL migration boundary cases, 178 environment tests, 539 Daytona tests (eight skips), and the native warm-backup admission control. - Local skill migration passed eight PostgreSQL/S3 tests (one existing opt-in skip). Failed readback retains the source. Successful readback still works after deletion of the old home. - Latest Product E2E typecheck and 38 focused harness tests pass. Earlier catalog/admission/report checks passed. Twelve unrelated support-test failures reproduce on unchanged base `1a39dea9aa`; these are not reported as passing. - Live Codex per-turn at `2d5bb9a6d1` retained the native and provider sessions, both workspace paths and exact reference bytes after deletion of the old home. It completed the task and delivered its saved document and original reference. Its original failure was an output-count grading defect. The corrected grader passes all 21 checks against retained, hashed evidence; the original result remains unchanged. - Live OpenCode per-turn and Codex warm at harness `94bb917947` pass all 21 product checks. Their launcher cleanup failed because a read-only diagnostic observer kept its disposable database open. The observer now closes before ordinary database cleanup; a no-provider reproduction confirms the fix. All owned sandboxes were independently verified absent, child keys revoked and buckets removed. Original failed campaign dispositions remain unchanged. - Claude at `94bb917947` kept its sessions and reference bytes but omitted the final clickable document link. That user-delivery failure remains recorded. The fixture now explicitly asks for the link and records migration evidence before checking navigation. The fresh Claude attempt at `b12ecd823e` passed both strict migration checks: exact provider/native session, both paths, original file bytes and independently downloaded attachment. Its full browser workflow failed again: it requested unnecessary confirmation, used the answer sentence as the reference, and omitted the clickable document link. This is retained as a failed user-workflow result, not a full pass. - Earlier live failures exposed and reproduced the skill-object, fresh-allocation marker and managed-instruction fingerprint bugs. The fixes retain original identity checks. No provider session reset or accounting bypass was used. - The real Grok continuation at `b12ecd823e` failed before provider execution because its immutable-instruction attach policy rejected relocated registered file copies. A no-provider regression reproduced the exact rejection. `b05ba3728a` selects the existing strict authenticated asset-path policy for Grok; content digests, unknown context fields, session/workspace identity and same-run mutations remain enforced. The regression and all 57 ACPX provider controls pass. The Grok browser migration now passes all 21 checks with the b05 Linux Runner, including provider identity, exact reference bytes and final user output; the launcher also reports successful cleanup. - `24fabf1d81` applies the same policy to released ACPX Codex after a second no-provider reproduction. All 58 ACPX provider controls and the final Linux release build pass. Its live browser migration passes all 21 checks on the final binary, including exact original session/file preservation and completed user output. - The full native-session executor suite passes all 1,121 tests after updating its existing lease database fixture for the migration-receipt join. The prior CI failure was this unsupported test-double method; the production guard still rejects ordinary unproven recovery. CI and Greptile 5/5 passed at `ca1e0d5fe6`. The first CI attempt lost several workers and had one rotated-recovery transport failure; its seven descriptor cases passed locally, and the single unchanged retry passed. The original failure remains recorded. Staging enrollment has not started. Initial offline enrollment and subsequent rolling availability are separate checks. - The final review follow-up adds real runtime-selection PostgreSQL cases for exact, different-session and absent receipts, plus executor-level warm restoration that copies actual backup files and verifies provider identity and the new lease stamp. Both complete affected suites pass (1,172 tests), and full repository typecheck passes. Removing either production migration connection independently makes its new positive case fail; both source files were restored byte-for-byte after these negative controls. - Final commit `0971d373a3` passes all 63 checks (57 successes, five expected skips, one neutral); Greptile is 5/5 and every review thread is resolved. ## Risks - An identity conflict blocks enrollment and keeps the original files. It does not silently reset the session. - A new migration generation retires a reusable lease through its existing owner. The original sandbox must finish normal cleanup before reuse proceeds. - Initial enrollment has an offline step. The separate rolling suites prove uninterrupted deploy behavior after enrollment. - This adds no schema migration and changes no provider credentials or accounting gate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model build and context window are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, terminal tools, code edits, PostgreSQL/filesystem tests and isolated live browser qualification.

Preserve unstarted queued turns during offline enrollment (#18887)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Existing-volume enrollment moves server files to durable object storage. > - Enrollment stops application deployments before it changes file authority. > - A task drain keeps unstarted turns queued in the database. > - The migration rejected every queued row, so a busy instance could never finish enrollment without discarding requests. > - This change preserves unstarted queue intent and continues to reject running or previously started executions. > - Users keep their pending turns and saved files through the conversion. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A preserving enrollment found queued turns after task admission stopped. The workspace, instruction-file, and historical-log guards treated these rows as live writers. The drain also prevented the rows from starting, so waiting could not satisfy the migration guard. **Expected behavior** After every old deployment has stopped, maintenance can move files while unstarted queued turns remain unchanged. The replacement claims those turns through normal admission. Actual executions and retained execution ownership continue to block migration. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Queue a turn behind another task. 2. Start a task drain and let the current task finish. 3. Stop the application deployments and run offline enrollment. 4. Observe `active_execution_requires_drain` for the unstarted queued turn. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on the migration contract through #18864. This branch starts at `ab2d2098a2764c511978d1c3e7a3fc5dfcef07f4`. Related: #18826, #18835, #18841, #18864. Searches for queued enrollment and queued migration found no duplicate fix. ## What Changed - Share one offline execution predicate across workspace, agent-file, and historical-log migration. - Reuse the existing pre-dispatch evidence predicate; queued turns with execution markers, saved checkpoints, source events, coordinators, or environment leases remain blockers. - Keep task bindings and normal live-migration restrictions unchanged. - Exercise normal replacement admission after deleting the old filesystem: the same queued run reads restored workspace bytes and instructions, completes its original wake, and cannot execute twice. - Document the offline boundary and queued-turn behavior. ## Verification - **111 tests passed** across the final 110-case migration suite and assembled queued-turn heartbeat proof, with real PostgreSQL and local S3. This includes workspace/log migration, queued ownership blockers, ordinary agent-file controls, and the actual bundled maintenance process. - The maintenance process preserves the queued row while archiving historical output. The new assembled heartbeat test creates a normal wake under drain, migrates without changing either row, deletes the original filesystem, and resumes through normal admission. It reads saved workspace bytes and the restored instruction bundle, persists one successful native result, completes the same wake, and verifies a second sweep does not duplicate execution. Only sandbox transport/provider execution are scripted; no live model or Daytona calls. - An earlier optional run-evidence worker integration invocation was skipped without its dedicated environment; it is outside the changed offline path. - Server typecheck, server build, and runtime bundle passed. - The first maintenance test exposed the separate agent-file guard; that guard now uses the same offline predicate and the test passes. - Initial local typecheck attempts lacked CLI dependency links in this isolated checkout. Restoring dependencies fixed setup without source changes. - Full repository checks run in CI. The first head lost spot runners in Build and serialized tests; one unchanged idle-deadline fixture crossed UTC midnight and failed its timestamp assertion. Final-head CI passed on run 41744678994 after retrying a spot-runner shutdown. Greptile reviewed the exact final head at 5/5; all inline findings are resolved. The separate Paperclip Review app remains queued. Hosted enrollment remains pending release qualification and compatibility verification for the existing provider configuration. ## Risks The offline predicate relies on Cloud stopping every old application deployment. It does not make online migration safe. Running executions always block. Requeued executions with retained ownership also block. No queued request, task binding, or recovery state is removed or rewritten. No database schema changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 based, with reasoning and tool-assisted code execution. The exact deployed model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(workspaces): preserve legacy recovery across storage migration (#18841)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages durable tasks and agent work through the control plane. > - An ephemeral web server needs existing workspace files in shared storage. > - Failed historical runs can still own recoverable sandbox files or unfinished coordinator state. > - Moving local files must preserve those obligations without replaying the old agent turn. > - Migration journals the exact source and fences old copyback; the recovery owner saves verified sandbox files separately. > - New user input can continue only after matching preservation receipts and independent execution-stop checks. > - Accepted results retain their finalization owner and must have its durable workspace receipt before storage moves. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on merged #18826 and #18835. **What happened?** Existing workspaces with failed native copyback could not migrate to remote storage. Simply changing their storage authority would let later recovery target a retired local directory, lose child-task attachments, or leave a recovered task unable to accept a new turn. **Expected behavior** Preserve local files, exact sandbox provenance, task bindings, checkpoints, and unresolved history. Recover surviving sandbox files into immutable task-scoped attachments after migration, and let a new authorized user turn use those files without replaying the old execution. **Steps to reproduce** Create a terminal native run with a prepared copyback descriptor and a retained sandbox. Migrate its local workspace, remove the old host filesystem, recover the sandbox, and submit a new user turn. Also exercise a child task reusing its ancestor's workspace and an expired observed coordinator. ## What Changed - Journal exact legacy run, task, descriptor, and unfinished coordinator bindings during offline migration. Descriptor-free runs retain the complete declared lease/allocation/directory identities; publication locks and revalidates them. - Publish a run-scoped fence that prevents automatic restart or copyback into the retired local authority. - Release only the exact journaled expired coordinator lease under the offline deployment fence and locked revalidation, recording the prior owner in recovery history. Preserve phase, checkpoint, result, and run status. - Save recovered sandbox files through the existing immutable snapshot owner, retaining allocation and provider-stop checks. - Attach recovered files using the current task's identity when a child reuses an ancestor workspace. - Accept matching migration and snapshot receipts for workspace-repair admission and explicit new-user continuation. Changed coordinator bindings and invalid receipts remain blocked. - Require the finalizer's successful workspace_finalize operation before moving a workspace whose accepted result has finalized copyback; the existing owner can then finish assessment/status effects. - Document unresolved workspace-policy, task-ownership, and missing-provenance cases as separate owner actions that block detachment. ## Verification - 569 tests across migration, retained recovery, and explicit continuation passed on |

fix(workspaces): preserve shared directory trees during enrollment (#18835)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - A volume-free web server needs existing task files in durable object
storage.
> - Historical workspace records can share a physical folder or contain
other task folders.
> - A task-level migration hold cannot fence every alias, and capturing
a parent recursively duplicates nested task data.
> - Offline enrollment imports children first and verifies their durable
coverage before omitting them from a parent archive.
> - Snapshot retention preserves those child versions for as long as a
covering parent depends on them.
> - Existing files, task bindings, and archived states remain intact
through the storage migration.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Builds on merged #18826.
**What happened?**
The per-workspace importer could capture a shared project folder while
another workspace record still owned the same path. It also recursively
included runtime-created nested task workspaces in each parent import.
Packaged enrollment rejected existing workspace data instead of invoking
its migration owner.
**Expected behavior**
Require offline maintenance for overlapping paths. Import nested tasks
before their parents, verify every excluded directory against its saved
snapshot, preserve dependencies through retention, and resume
interrupted imports without replacing existing remote authority.
**Steps to reproduce**
Create a project workspace and another task workspace below its
`.paperclip/worktrees/` directory. Try importing either while ordinary
writers are running, then run offline enrollment. Interrupt a parent
import after upload and resume it.
## What Changed
- Add physical-overlap admission checks and an offline entry-point
guard, including global running and queued executions.
- Import pending records in leaf-first pages through the existing
migration owner.
- Verify nested snapshots by downloading, restoring, and comparing the
original source before and after parent upload; check transitive
dependencies.
- Publish parent dependency receipts under child snapshot row locks.
Retention pins those children and revisits them when the parent is
deleted.
- Index imported-child dependency lookups with a partial GIN index; a
PostgreSQL query-plan regression covers 2,500 unrelated snapshots.
- Propagate cancellation through capture and object storage operations
and preserve existing retry journals.
- Wire workspace migration into packaged maintenance and document its
preservation contract.
## Verification
- The original overlap and duplicate-parent regressions failed before
implementation.
- 73 migration and retention tests pass against real PostgreSQL and
files, including interrupted uploads, resumed batches, equal-path
aliases, changed or missing child data, nested descendants, and active
or queued executions.
- Six S3-compatible storage integration tests pass, including migration
through the maintenance owner and restoration of both parent and child
after deleting the original filesystem.
- The standalone process case was initially skipped because the worktree
had no bundle. After rebuilding the server and runtime bundle, that test
passed against PostgreSQL and S3: authenticated ready/export receipts,
preserved decision secret, blocked application routes, and clean SIGTERM
shutdown.
- Server typecheck, server build, runtime bundle build, and
module-boundary checks passed. Full repository CI passed on

fix(cursor-cloud): support API-only controllers on managed stacks (#18310)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work. > - Cursor Cloud hosts execution behind its API. > - Product setup still expected a Paperclip Computer. > - Managed-only tenants therefore rejected valid setup. > - This admits the validated API-owned controller. > - Authority, Stop proof, budgets and cleanup remain enforced. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18068 and #18069; both dependencies have merged. **What happened?** Managed-only setup still requested a Computer. Live tests exposed missing Cursor Stop proof and duplicate replay. **Expected behavior** Use Cursor’s API controller. Verify provider/controller termination and replay each log identity once. **Steps to reproduce** Enable native Runner/managed-only. Configure Cursor model/repository/key without a Computer, then Test, finish setup, run and Stop. ## What Changed - Derive API-only placement from validated native Cursor configuration; reject placement/command/workspace/home overrides and keep Kubernetes-only execution closed. - Skip Computers/checkout/workspace realization. Keep scoped tools, completion, private staging, budgets, leases and recovery. Persist placement; reject contradictions. - Align Cloud cards, Test, Save and Finish setup; hold unready drafts. Legacy keeps its Computer, credential and policy checks. - Verify Stop from exact API ownership, audited intent, provider-terminal proof, no Computer/process ownership and controller retirement. Recheck immediate/deferred retirement; wake existing recovery on durable evidence. - Clear warnings when the actual stopped target later has authoritative confirmation. Keep missing/other-run negatives and the existing predicate. - Publish safe status refresh after full-proof ACK. Retain bounded native/physical cancellation history; add no poller or weaker proof path. ## Verification Core merged as `3910352c923a`; Product merged as `27d35314be8e`. Public branch `5f86eb66b081` has tree `67344151d303`. Its exact-head Greptile summary is 5/5; the fresh audit found zero unresolved threads and complete pagination. The controlled workspace retry and required summary passed. All 59 current-head contexts are terminal and clean. Prior green-36 evidence keeps its identity. [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41680511731) first failed workspaces-a 1/2: the CLI company-import/export beforeAll 30-second runtime-info/child-PID/HTTP readiness wait expired. All 431 UI files/4,714 tests and 285 other CLI tests passed (one skip). The cause remains UNKNOWN. Child output records startup recovery complete, but buffered CI prefixes do not establish its relation to the waiter deadline; runtime-file/PID/last-health state was not captured. Both unchanged local probes were RED. The second observed dependency preflight still pending at the deadline; observer overhead was not quantified. Neither proves the CI cause. After all functional jobs finished, only the queued metadata summary was cancelled; the other 48 records stayed unchanged. Attempt 1 retains 46 successes, the original failure, one skip and the cancelled summary. One same-head debug retry was admitted at 18:42 UTC on November 3. Its workspace job passed at 19:23 UTC on the same checkout: UI 431 files/4,714 tests and CLI 33 files/286 tests, including company import/export. Test caching was disabled. The new `ci / verify` summary passed; workflow attempt 2 completed SUCCESS. Required `ci / e2e` also passed. The final check at 19:53 UTC on November 3 found all 59 current-head contexts terminal and clean: zero pending and zero failing. The 47 inherited completed/skipped rows are not new executions. No code, assertion or timeout changed; success does not explain the original failure or erase the local REDs. CI checkout is `1ea9d8608ced`/tree `78cb1ec13d59` (parents `2e37c73c05fe`, 5f86); both workflows use 2e37. Its 20 extra paths add low-memory build/Rust task-memory. Scripts cohere; later matrix changes only labels, with no newer debug-cache steps. Static audit found no blocker. Supported API arguments omit the memory flag: no default monitor/instruction changes. Flagged external launchers can change Cursor instructions/digests and remain unqualified. The merge added 41 master-identical paths, retained the green-36 inbox hunk and found UI fixtures matching upstream. Startup/backup, recovery projection, sleep diagnostics and binary backup change production. Static audit found eight Stop/ACK owner blobs and 37 sleep-work SQL templates unchanged, with sleep fences/single-flight accounting intact. Exact precommit tree: 416/416 across eight server files, binary backup 1/1, server types PASS; repeated scopes are not summed. The deferred-retirement P1 reproduced three real-DB/owned-process failures; missing proof stayed unverified. Recovery passed 47 process cases/33 proof negatives. Warning repair binds actual targets to same-run proof. Validation passed 729 scoped UI cases, a separate 359-case thread run, 111 backend cases (84 CAS, 6 assembled, 21 activity/privacy), types/tokens. Proof validators/predicate are unchanged; no new poller or increased timeout. The d8d3 attempt stays FAILED: 45 passes, two workspaces-a failures, derived verify failure and one skip. Both shards shared three failures: two successful mocks omitted the account guard’s required userId. The two-line fixture repair changed no guard, assertion or timeout. Three failures reproduced; 54 access/auth tests then passed, including account-change/denial negatives, plus UI types/tokens. The 69285 attempt stays FAILED: 49 jobs, 46 passed, serialized shard 9 failed, its verify aggregate failed and one selection job skipped. The shard passed 575/576 cases. Its aborted-snapshot case expected nine computes but saw eight: a final HTTP 200 coalesced while seven ordinary reads had not proved the aborted compute settled. Earlier CI and the unmodified local baseline passed with a miss; no local RED is claimed. The repair awaits the snapshot, allows exactly one extra GET if coalesced, then requires a miss and retains nine computes/all HTTP429 assertions. No production code, hook, loop, sleep or timeout changed. Six inbox and seven cache/admission cases passed locally, plus server types; 30 unrelated cases were filtered. Green 36 passed 576/576 without taking the extra-GET branch; local runs also missed that schedule. Current CI event merge 1ea9 now passed 576/576 and naturally exercised the former failure: coalesced (count 2, 1ms), then exactly one fresh miss (count 1, 16ms), with strict nine-compute/HTTP429 assertions intact. No instrumentation or retry was added. Earlier compatibility passed scoped remote/inbox, routine, API-placement and UI tests, plus types/migrations/snapshots/maps/tokens. The 89-path adoption restored fleet routing without workflow overrides or added skips. Each result retains its source identity. Live qualification remains actual `9af1a5de42a2`: unchanged Artifact grader PASSED 17/17 and active-Stop grader PASSED 21/21. All three provider test resources were deleted canonically with GET404; post-delete download returned the exact 27 bytes. Histories stayed stable (Artifact 121 and Stop 67 canonical identities), with 21 company runs, zero active work and no accounting/cancellation/reservation debt or integrity findings. Saved settings reopened; no-prompt Test/Linux admission passed with `claude-sonnet-4-5`. No new Save is claimed. The first Stop sampling case stays FAILED on a 10.373-second gap. Unchanged retry kept all 24 samples: 35.076 seconds quiet, maximum gap 4.584 seconds, plus a separate CANCELLED/artifact-absent read after 180 seconds. Initial grading rejected locator spelling before functional checks; metadata changed only after same-file/inode/byte proof, with raw evidence/oracles unchanged. Original Question/Plan/reconnect and historical deleted-artifact results keep their identities. Git trees verified 11 history-only conflicts and six earlier mainline paths. Hosted 9af to the public BRANCH differs in 222 paths; 13,500 other mode/blob leaves match. Runner runtime implementations and six observer/driver pins match 9af on that branch only; inherited `drivers/acpx/runtime-host.test.ts` differs. No all-Runner/src, CI/latest-master runtime or image equality is claimed. Later static audits through `8ab89f41e499` found no concrete API-only blocker. That base adds completed-history sleep proofs and an MCP cleanup migration; protected Stop/ACK owners are unchanged. These later changes are outside this CI and have no live qualification here. Host duplicate-card and later recovery/UI repairs retain separate proof, not deployed 9af identity. Direct-key coverage requires absent aiConnection; API-only placement skips inherited remote-workspace disk-full paths, and config-read gates match their parent. Other retained failures: stale fixture 132/133; E8 48/135 with 87 reset-hook failures; Mac 17 SQL failures/skips; title/startup/custody/Stop/deletion unknown causes and bounded recoveries; superseded warning/50 duplicate identities; pre-repair ACK/Core CI failures. Fixture RED/GREEN passed 7/7 browser and 121/121 shutdown tests with a failing broken-unsubscribe control; stable WSP wrapper passed 128 after physical teardown failure. No full local-suite pass is inferred. All paid attempts remain recorded; vendor dollar cost is UNKNOWN. ## Risks Experimental: Cursor independently acknowledges neither the effective model nor instruction digest before the first prompt. Explicit values are submitted and behavior checked live; unpriced provider dollar cost stays UNKNOWN. The placement exception applies only to validated native Cursor API execution. Other local work remains denied under managed-only policy. Missing/stale Stop or cleanup proof stays pending; damaged archives remain failed. Explicit Legacy keeps its existing policy owners. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex/GPT-6 family: tools, execution, browser checks, delegated review. API ID/context window unavailable. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used and the limits of available model metadata - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or described the issue in this PR - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch describes the change and contains no internal ticket ID - [x] I have run the scoped local tests reported above; retained failures are stated separately - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented the risks - [x] All required CI gates pass on the current head - [x] Fresh Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings on the current head - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(budgets): avoid company lock for routine eligibility checks (#18830)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work. > - The budget service checks whether an agent can start work. > - Preliminary checks acquired the company accounting lock even with no budget policy. > - Independent checks then waited behind accounting writes for the same company. > - This pull request reads one consistent snapshot before it decides whether reconciliation is needed. > - Healthy checks avoid the writer lock. State changes and final paid admission retain their existing authority. > - The benefit is less company-wide contention during routine eligibility checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17697 (the preliminary-check portion). Refs #17817 (related serialization in agent configuration). Related approach: #17966. That PR adds a precheck for policies that cannot block. This PR also avoids the lock for healthy active hard-stop policies and manual pause reads. It uses a repeatable-read snapshot and leaves public transactional admission locked. It does not add the inactive-policy spend filtering proposed in #17966. **Current behavior** Every public `getInvocationBlock` call takes the company writer lock. Healthy checks can wait behind an unrelated receipt or settlement operation. **Proposed behavior** Read current scope state, policies, exposure and relevant incidents in a read-only snapshot. Return directly when no transition is needed. Otherwise discard the snapshot and reconcile current state under the company lock. **Reason and benefit** Independent preliminary checks can finish while another transaction owns the company row. Final reservations and paid-work admission still serialize against current accounting state. ## What Changed - Separate preliminary eligibility inspection from mutating reconciliation in the budget service. - Share scope loading, pause decisions and soft-incident resolution conditions between the two paths. - Keep no-policy checks free of exposure scans and incident reads. - Add inspection and reconciliation spans to the existing operator-gated Observability path. - Add PostgreSQL contention tests and regressions for pauses, holds, incidents, recovering native accounting and company boundaries. - Use the shared fixture startup timeout. Per-test deadlines and the 500 ms lock timeout stay intact. - Update the implementation contract and tracing documentation. Add dated investigation and future-design notes. The future accounting architecture remains a proposal. ## Verification - 73 targeted tests passed across eight files on implementation commit `244db565`. No tests were skipped. The files cover budget service, enforcement scoping and delivery, live receipt attempts, budget history, run settlement, heartbeat accounting and budget tracing. - Real PostgreSQL tests hold the company accounting lock while routine checks finish. The same reader's authoritative admission instead fails with PostgreSQL lock timeout `55P03`. - Full workspace typecheck passed before the rebase: `node scripts/typecheck-low-memory.mjs`. - Full workspace build passed before the rebase: `PAPERCLIP_TYPECHECK_LOW_MEMORY=1 pnpm -r --workspace-concurrency=1 build`. The Runner release binary was rebuilt from source. - `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed. - Initial local setup failed before assertions: cold fixture setup exceeded 20 seconds, then a missing SDK build was exposed. The fixture now uses the shared 90-second startup allowance. The SDK was built before the successful test run. An incomplete local Copilot artifact also blocked the first build; the pinned installer repaired it before the successful canonical retry. - The branch rebased cleanly onto master `83b5f7d486`. All 73 targeted tests then passed again on clean head `244db565ae206502b100c3cdf5cd86a0ae91b372` (eight files, no skips). The full local Vitest suite was not run; remote CI must verify the wider suite. - Initial remote CI failed three monitor-scheduler cases at the suite's three-second heartbeat-idle wait. The unchanged suite then passed all 21 tests locally (`pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/issue-monitor-scheduler.test.ts`, 70.13 seconds). The one failed-job rerun was cancelled after the review follow-up was pushed; it produced no pass/fail result. No scheduler assertions or timeouts were changed. On updated head `ba2ab2a0`, the unchanged monitor suite passed all 21 tests in 38.381 seconds in [server shard 10/12](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41702687492/job/126151059714). That shard passed 115 files and 2,677 tests, with no failures (one file and 20 tests skipped by existing suite configuration). - The independent review identified missing recovering-run coverage. The added contention case requires the locked fallback while another accounting writer holds the company row, then verifies the recovery block without pausing or cancelling recovery. The regression is in follow-up commit `ba2ab2a0b001f7bd69e0f86fb89a842e79b0e2b8`. All 19 budget-service tests passed locally (no skips, 48.89 seconds), and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` passed after the follow-up. - The updated CI run then hit a separate plugin-refresh fixture timeout at its final re-enable settle. The unchanged `external-object-refresh-work.test.ts` suite passed all 24 tests locally (52.02 seconds). Inspection identified a possible fake-clock race: its quiet helper can observe no scheduled deadline while reconstruction is still active, then encounter the existing 30-second reconstruction cooldown. The one same-head failed-job retry [passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41702687492/job/126158227876): refresh suite 24/24, shard 115 files and 4,125 tests passed (one file and four tests skipped by existing configuration). No assertions, timeouts, or product code were changed. - [Full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41702687492) passed on exact head `ba2ab2a0b001f7bd69e0f86fb89a842e79b0e2b8`: build, typecheck, Runner checks, all server/workspace suites and E2E. Both required aggregates are successful. All 59 checks are terminal: 54 successful, two advisory neutral and three expected skips. The PR is mergeable with a clean merge state. - Deployment latency and CPU effects have not been measured. - Greptile reviewed updated head `ba2ab2a0b001f7bd69e0f86fb89a842e79b0e2b8`: 5/5, no actionable findings or unresolved Greptile threads. - Independent Paperclip review on the updated head: advisory 4/5, no blocker, recovery gap confirmed resolved. One canonical maintainability advisory remains visible and is documented below. ## Risks - Preliminary inspection can precede a concurrent policy or pause change. It grants no paid dispatch authority. The final locked admission and reservation checks remain required. - Healthy configured policies add an incident lookup. An unheld blocking scope can compute exposure during both inspection and locked revalidation. Already-held scopes skip the first exposure computation. - Holds and incidents must retain their existing transition effects. The fallback reads them again under the company lock, rather than mutating from the earlier snapshot. - Eligibility inspection and reconciliation still maintain separate transition lists. Future reconciliation changes must update the inspection predicate and its contention coverage together; consolidating the effects model remains a nonblocking review follow-up. - No schema or API response change is required. This change does not relax the current budget enforcement contract. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with model `gpt-6.1-sol`. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code execution and delegated review. The session did not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(workspaces): preserve archived data during remote migration (#18826)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Remote workspace storage lets the web server run without a persistent volume. > - Existing deployments also contain archived and historical task workspaces. > - Retention can remove their folders while preserving encrypted restore points or Git reconstruction records. > - The importer rejected those records and only accepted the task's current workspace. > - This pull request imports verified saved data without reopening or rebinding tasks. > - The benefit is preservation of existing work during an explicit storage migration. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18403 and #17472. **What happened?** An explicit remote-workspace import rejected archived records, historical task bindings, and removed folders with valid retained data. **Expected behavior** Import the recorded files or exact Git commit. Preserve archived state and the task's current binding. Refuse missing, expired, corrupt, or changed sources. **Steps to reproduce** Archive a task directory with a restore point, remove its folder, and run the remote-workspace import. Repeat with a Git restore point containing an unpushed commit and staged and unstaged edits. The previous importer reports an inactive workspace or missing source. ## What Changed - Preserve lifecycle state and current task binding while importing archived and historical records. Recheck the binding before publication and on resume. - Expose the task-directory owner's validated restore-point reader. Reuse it for ordinary restoration and migration. - Restore archived directories and Git data into private scratch space. Support saved Git recipes and exact legacy branch-deletion receipts. - Recover pruned unpushed Git commits from the encrypted bundle and its explicit prerequisites. - Keep independent snapshot download, restoration, source checks, writer guards, encryption, and atomic publication. - Document the supported import sources and the remaining tenant-enrollment gaps. ## Verification - Before production edits, two new regressions failed on archived status and historical task binding. - Final focused verification: 58 tests pass across remote-workspace migration and isolated task-directory restoration. - Real PostgreSQL, Git repositories, encrypted storage, and restored file bytes cover cold restoration after removing the old folder and source object, pruned unpushed history, index and worktree edits, corrupt/missing/expired sources, binding changes, and source-folder races. - A Git fixture initially lacked runtime ownership metadata. Correcting the fixture made the valid retained-source case pass; no production validation was weakened. - Full repository typecheck and build passed. Full `pnpm test:run` stopped in chat integration shard 2 after two failures: a retry-notice timeout and a subsequent fake-timer error. All four cases in that retry-notice group passed in a separate focused rerun without source changes; the complete suite has not passed locally. All exact-head CI jobs passed. The separate Paperclip Review app check is still queued; all existing review threads are resolved. Server typecheck passed after the review fixes. - Both review findings were reproduced: the real cleanup owner's verified-tip receipt was rejected, and a lost upload reply for a legacy Git source failed with `operation_content_changed`. The fixes accept the owner's scoped receipt metadata and rebuild reconstructed Git indexes from their staged trees. Both regressions now pass, including retained staged and unstaged edits. - Additional coverage restores from a fresh HTTP clone after deleting the original repository, imports a nested local checkout with encrypted settings, and rejects an unapproved nested source without publishing remote authority. - This PR does not claim a completed tenant enrollment or a new zero-downtime deployment proof. ## Risks Imports can fail when old receipts or repository objects are unavailable. They retain their migration journal and leave the original state intact. Operators must resolve pending writers and recovery before importing. Shared physical roots, nested worktrees, and unresolved sandbox recovery require separate migration work. This change does not remove those blockers or alter automatic retention. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. This session does not expose a more specific serving model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal task ID or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the focused tests locally and they pass; full typecheck/build passed and the full-suite failure is documented - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: connect experimental Cursor Cloud to native Runner (#18069)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work. > - Native Runner owns execution and task authority. > - Operators need an explicit native Cursor Cloud choice. > - Tools/files need company, task, session and run scope. > - This connects setup and lifecycle to Runner Core. > - Legacy agents retain their selected runtime/history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Depends on #18068. Managed-only API placement and API-owned Stop containment are in #18310. Refs #5664, #11803, #17299, and #17471. No duplicate native integration was found. ## What Changed - Add explicit native setup, Test, saved settings and dispatch with no-prompt account/catalog/callback checks. - Scope MCP to company, agent, task, session and run through authenticated HTTPS. Register verified artifacts/work products; preserve unpriced accounting, completion and budgets. - Connect Question/Plan continuation, cold handoff and admitted fresh sessions; recheck waiting admission under the task lock. - Present audited Stop intent while preserving physical containment proof; bound typed Stop metadata. Preserve title edits through preference/navigation readiness. - Select one live/history representation per run to prevent duplicate settled cards. Integrate upstream task/read-state/retry/schema contracts and repair two test fixtures. ## Verification Core #18068 merged normally as `3910352c923a`. Product head `5a60f541c982` has passing repository CI/build/browser checks, including required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, plus a fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5 review with zero unresolved threads. Two non-required external app checks remain pending: Paperclip Review is queued waiting for its assigned agent; Superagent Security Scan is reviewing the diff. These are not claimed completed. The normal merge endpoint enforces the repository rules; no policy or status override is used. The dependent Top PR is addressing its fresh deferred-Stop review finding. Product `5a60f541c982` passed 270 UI and 20 selected Cloud/native/disk-full tests, UI/server typechecks, tokens and maps. Top’s clean normal merge passed tokens/maps/diff checks; its matrix is pending. Earlier receipts retain Core’s 47 Rust, 4 compiled-native retirement and 19 settlement controls, normal Runner build, and runtime 9af build/recursive typecheck. Reproduced loading/shutdown CI fixture failures passed 7/7 browser and 121/121 unit tests, including a broken-unsubscribe negative control. No timeout/oracle was relaxed. The actual-parent restack adopts 75 mainline paths, including schema/permission and generic runtime changes, beyond the prior two fixture repairs and client projection fix. The full difference from hosted `9af1a5de42a2` is therefore larger than four files; backend source also differs. The merged config-read checks match Core391, and the Cursor placement/runtime/relay/selection modules match frozen9af; selected affected regressions pass. Paid proof keeps its actual 9af source/image identity. The separately tested live/history card fix is not claimed deployed on that host. On 9af, original saved settings survived reopening and fresh no-prompt Test authenticated catalog/model/binding; no new Save is claimed. Fresh Linux admission passed. With `claude-sonnet-4-5`, Artifact downloaded exact 27 bytes and matched 121 canonical identities in complete S3-served history. First Stop’s strict quiet FAILED on a 10.373-second gap despite independent cancellation/no late artifact. One targeted unchanged-sampler retry retained all 24 samples: 35.076 seconds quiet / maximum gap 4.584 seconds, 67 ordered canonical identities, and separate CANCELLED/artifact-absent status after the original 180-second deadline. The pre-reload duplicate settled card is disclosed. Exact-ID cleanup for the three new provider agents is awaiting authorization, so full grades and the fresh Artifact’s post-cleanup download remain blocked. A historical deleted-provider artifact was newly downloaded on 9af; original F226 Question/Plan/reconnect and cleanup proof keep their identities. Retained failures: stale fixture 132/133; E8 48/135 with 87 reset-hook failures; Mac 17 SQL failures/skips; earlier title/startup/custody/Stop/deletion failures with unknown causes/bounded recoveries; `dea023` Stop’s warning/50 duplicate identities; pre-repair ACK and original Core CI failures. WSP’s 251-assertion, 7/8-suite attempt failed physical PostgreSQL teardown; the unchanged wrapper rerun passed 128. Retry alone establishes no cause or full local-suite pass. All paid attempts remain recorded; vendor dollar cost is UNKNOWN. ## Risks Experimental: Cursor independently acknowledges neither the effective model nor instruction digest before the first prompt. Explicit values are submitted and checked through behavior; unpriced provider dollar cost stays UNKNOWN. Callbacks need authenticated reachable HTTPS. Scope, revocation, budgets, completion and cleanup remain authoritative. Operator Stop intent is separate from physical containment. Saved legacy agents retain their selected runtime. Prior shared title-save/deletion failures remain disclosed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, assisted with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, browser verification, and delegated code review. The serving model’s exact API ID and context window are not exposed. No value is inferred from the model catalog. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used and the limits of available model metadata - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or described the issue in this PR - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch describes the change and contains no internal ticket ID - [x] I have run the scoped local tests reported above; pending gates are stated separately - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented the risks - [x] All required CI gates pass on the current head - [x] Fresh Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings on the current head - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): settle cleanup after reusable sandbox destruction (#18633)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A web-server replacement must preserve work and let completed cleanup become idle. > - Several task turns can use one remote sandbox through recorded lease handoffs. > - The last owner can destroy that sandbox while an earlier owner still waits for its own termination receipt. > - A completed agent-file cleanup can also retain a retry deadline from a competing callback. > - This pull request resolves confirmed destruction through the existing handoff contract and settles obsolete cleanup retries. > - The benefit is correct cleanup recovery without deleting history or weakening sleep checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #18554. Related work: #14695 handles warm agent-file ownership; #13291 handles interrupted conversation continuation. This PR fixes cleanup recovery after confirmed final destruction. It does not change provider process reuse or start a new run. **What happened?** After ten qualified staging web-server replacements, a bounded database-idle check failed. Completed native runs still owned pending agent-file cleanup. Normal workspace archive confirmed final sandbox destruction. An earlier lease in the same recorded handoff chain remained unresolved. Two completed cleanup receipts also kept stale retry deadlines. **Expected behavior** Resolve an earlier owner's cleanup only when the complete recorded handoff chain leads to an exact provider-confirmed destruction receipt. Clear a retry when its cleanup is already complete. Keep real or uncertain work pending. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Complete a remote run, reuse its sandbox for a second run, then archive the completed workspace. 2. Recover agent-file collection for the first run after the final lease confirms destruction. 3. Separately, reconstruct a completed cleanup receipt that still has a retry deadline. 4. Observe that both records remain unfinished without this fix. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed on `1a6017d6460267ad89d7e1784e2b521c28d8e9ac`. The changed source was unchanged in master `97c4dc969e13364464765ffbde74955005bf44d3`, which is this branch's base. **Deployment mode** A managed ephemeral web server with PostgreSQL, object storage and a remote sandbox. Regression tests use local PostgreSQL and no live provider or model calls. ## What Changed - Resolve remote termination at read time through the existing strict reusable-lease handoff validator. Require one final owner and a valid destruction receipt. Preserve historical lease rows. - Use the same proof in agent-directory cleanup and remote-stop inspection. Keep stopped, ambiguous, broken and cross-company chains blocked. - Reconcile completed cleanup receipts with stale retry deadlines through the existing deadline worker. Compare the receipt before clearing a deadline. - Add recovery, refusal, restart quietness and concurrent-obligation regressions. - Document the cleanup contract and preserve deployment evidence, failed checks and remaining acceptance work in the existing plan. ## Verification - Both owning service suites passed 169 tests before the final receipt comparison was added. - The seven-case selection passed again after the release-race review fix: `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/agent-directory-working-copies.test.ts -t 'stale retry|destroyed successor chain|stale-deadline settlement'`. - Repository-wide `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on final review fix `7935d99bed`. The full `pnpm test:run` is still running. Latest-head CI has 55 successful checks, three skips, and one neutral review result. Greptile is 5/5. The Paperclip reviewer’s race finding is fixed; its optional query-deduplication suggestion is documented and the fresh lock-boundary checks are retained. - The reviewer identified an early return after a lost receipt comparison. The strengthened race regression failed before the fix and passed afterward: release now acts on the returned authoritative row, completes the new cleanup obligation, and preserves canonical files. - The first focused attempt failed the new stale-deadline test because the public release guard skipped settlement. That guard was fixed. The original failure is retained. A sandboxed typecheck could not fetch pnpm signature metadata; the normal network-enabled command passed without changing verification policy. - Prior deployed evidence: ten Railway replacements, 12,521 reads, 1,566 verified saves, 34 matching file hashes, no HTTP failures, actual browser reconnects of 1.16–1.29 seconds, and one remote execution retained across replacement. Two harness false alarms were separately adjudicated without redeploying those steps. - That deployment evidence predates this PR. Current-image natural idle, automatic sleep/wake browser return and the isolated production canary remain unverified. Production has not changed. ## Risks - Cleanup authority must not cross a company or allocation boundary. The existing validator checks the entire recorded chain; stopped successors and unexpected owners remain unresolved. - Confirmed destruction permits no-save cleanup. It does not claim that uncollected agent files were saved. - Read-time resolution adds a scoped lease-history query only for expired reusable leases without direct termination proof. No new recurring worker or polling cadence is added. - The deadline update must not erase new work. It requires the same cleanup receipt and preserves concurrent changes. - No schema or public API changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution and test tools. The precise backend revision and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): resume suspended sessions after controller replacement (#18554)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A web server replacement must preserve a completed conversation as well as active execution. > - A warm remote Runner can suspend before the replacement admits another turn. > - The replacement restores its controller checkpoint from PostgreSQL, but lacks the Runner suspension receipt. > - It therefore tries to adopt a live process and rejects the safely suspended source. > - This change restores the verified receipt and preserves retained launch files while the old authority is reconciled. > - Later turns can keep the same provider conversation after the old web server filesystem is deleted. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18552, #18543, #18366. **What happened?** The real rolling-deployment journey passed both HTTP handoffs, with 765 reads and 78 verified saves. The first three agent turns kept their native and provider sessions. After the second replacement, the fourth continuation failed with `remote_warm_session_not_idle`. The remote Runner was suspended with an empty outbox and no pending terminal. A focused regression reproduced that exact failure. After restoring its suspension receipt, the same test exposed a stale launch-file read during source recovery. **Expected behavior** A replacement can resume the same provider conversation from a settled suspended Runner. It must validate the physical sandbox and all persisted identity fields. A live source must still pass the existing adoption checks. **Steps to reproduce** Enable the Linux Runner fixture for `native-runner-restart-recovery.integration.test.ts`. Run the `diskless-warm-suspended` cases. The fixture completes and gracefully suspends each source, deletes the controller projections, and admits a later turn from another process. It does not write a synthetic suspension receipt. ## What Changed - Reuse the existing per-turn suspended-receipt reader before warm admission chooses live adoption or suspended recovery. - Keep the receipt read retryable when a failed remote read leaves only the controller projection. - Leave every non-suspended warm state to the existing live-adoption checks. A preliminary backpressure observation cannot reject admission before that owner inspects the current Runner state. - Preserve current sandbox binding, settled-outbox, exact-identity, local-evidence and admission checks. - Pass the structured launch specification to remote asset preparation. Source reconciliation keeps the old authority's retained launch files; a current-authority launch still stages its current files. - Add two Linux Runner/PostgreSQL regressions for two controller-cache deletions and three turns on one provider thread, including an interrupted receipt read. - Update the deployment qualification record, including the failed live evidence and the successful staging database-idle observation. ## Verification - Before the fix, the focused regression fails with the exact live `remote_warm_session_not_idle` error. - Both new regressions pass with real PostgreSQL and Linux Runner. The provider is deterministic; this is not a live model qualification. - The first receipt-only fix failed on the deleted controller skills cache. The completed fix passes that same scenario without recreating fixture launch assets. - All 1,067 surrounding launch supervision, warm recovery, launch-asset and controller recovery tests pass. The exact `cc23019691` server build passes. All ten Linux continuity cases pass, including live adoption, graceful suspension, per-turn resume, changed configuration and failed-read retry. Each case checks provider-thread identity and exact turn counts. The live Codex/Daytona journey passes on the same clean source and exact build: 518 reads, 53 saves and 53 verified saves with zero probe failures; both predecessor homes deleted; the active execution completes once; all four turns preserve the provider conversation and native receipts; saved files and the final command output are independently checked. No automatic retries. Child credential and object-storage bucket cleanup pass. Browser reconnection remains a separate hosted acceptance check. - The review refinement has a failing-before regression: only the preliminary read reports transient backpressure; the subsequent adoption reads the real Runner state. It and both suspension cases pass on the final source (three cases), with server typecheck. The existing idle check remains unchanged. An initial retry hit a fixture port left by the intentional pre-fix failure; a fresh container resolved that infrastructure error. - Independent cleanup verification found two archived setup sandboxes left by the live harness. Both were deleted and confirmed absent. The failed automatic-cleanup check remains recorded. - No claim of the ten-deploy Railway campaign or production canary yet. ## Risks - A cold warm-session admission can now make one bounded remote state read when local lifecycle evidence is absent. Its failure stops admission and remains retryable. - This path cannot replace contradictory local evidence, transfer authority, or treat a suspended process as a live one. - Source recovery must keep the previous authority's launch files until reconciliation completes. The launch identity selects that behavior; ordinary launches still prepare current assets. - No schema migration or public API change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution and integration-test tools. The exact runtime model variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge CI qualification note: first final-head run `41322376054` passed the native/runtime and remaining suites but failed the unrelated `automatic_message_on_reactivation` browser fixture at its pre-reactivation deferred-queue count (0 rather than 1). The unchanged test passed locally against isolated PostgreSQL (1 test, 43.6 s); inspection found an asynchronous company-pause/fixture-seeding timing window. Original CI logs and local evidence are retained. The single failed-job retry passed; all final-head CI gates are green. Both reviews are 5/5 and no review threads remain unresolved. The first local embedded-Postgres launch failed before tests during cluster initialization; the isolated external-Postgres test passed, and its disposable database was removed after correcting the private launcher cleanup call. --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): preserve sessions and defer busy overlap recovery (#18552)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A web server replacement must preserve remote execution and later task continuation. > - The active-run handoff now survives deletion of the departing server home. > - The next admission still compared disposable instruction and skill paths as configuration. > - A native receipt could also settle without the old adapter returning its terminal metadata. > - A replacement can also collide with a run row locked by the serving controller. > - This change preserves durable session identity and terminal evidence, and defers locked recovery work so overlap can reach readiness. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18543, #18366, #9977, #18118. **What happened?** A real Codex/Daytona journey replaced both control-plane servers and deleted their homes. Reads, saves, saved files and active execution passed. A later useful answer used a new provider session. All four run records lacked the native terminal contract. The whole qualification therefore failed. A later attempt also exposed startup failure: the replacement waited for a row lock held by the serving controller and aborted on its one-second lock timeout. **Expected behavior** An unchanged managed instruction entry and immutable skill version retain the session across server cache relocation. Actual content and configuration changes still reset it. A committed native receipt retains its terminal contract even when the originating adapter never returns. A busy recovery row defers through the existing scheduler while the replacement reaches readiness. **Steps to reproduce** Run the `rolling-web-deployment.runner-codex.daytona.recover-controller` Product E2E cell with separate controller homes and shared PostgreSQL/S3. The focused regressions reproduce the failures without a model call. ## What Changed - Read the managed instruction entry digest from the company-scoped durable file head. Do not restore or read the cache for this check. - Omit disposable instruction paths only when that durable authority exists. Fingerprint selected immutable skill versions in both runtime skill inputs. - Preserve the existing local and external instruction path checks, and unversioned skill identity. - Publish the accepted native terminal contract in the same transaction as the canonical result receipt. - Skip locked recovery rows and schedule the same run for retry. Avoid an audit write that would block on the same row. No ownership is transferred while busy. - Keep replacement readiness independent of an in-progress skill selection; migration and cache eviction still require exact pins. Missing durable skill versions still refuse startup. - Project only the instruction digest in SQL instead of loading the entire agent-file manifest per admission. - Add real PostgreSQL lock contention tests for the issue, run and coordinator, including the heartbeat startup caller and later claim. - Limit native test teardown to its owned database on a shared test host. The old behavior also fails on clean master. - Add cache-loss, scope, changed-content, changed-version and finalization regressions. Update the deployment qualification record. ## Verification - Both focused regressions failed before the source changes. - All 249 tests pass across `heartbeat-workspace-session`, `agent-file-durability`, and `paperclip-control-plane-port`. - Server typecheck and exact-revision build pass. - Assembled admission ran 59 passing cases but failed during native-suite teardown. The teardown failure reproduced on clean master. All 16 native resumption cases and teardown pass after the database-scope fix. - All three row-lock regressions fail with the pre-fix lock timeout and pass with deferred recovery. The full recovery suite passes 74 cases, including the startup caller; eight Docker-specific cases were not enabled. - The real attempt at `d2165dec5d` failed when B aborted on the run lock. Its credential and bucket were removed; all three provider sandboxes were independently confirmed absent. The next real attempt at `aae8a53d01` failed a different readiness gate while a run was preparing skill pins. That race now has a failing-before regression; all 33 readiness, durable-file and managed-skill tests pass after the fix. Its owned resources are cleaned. The `a15a12651c` live attempt passed both web replacements: 765 reads, 78 saves and 78 verified saves with zero HTTP probe failures. The first three turns preserved the provider session and native terminal contract. The fourth continuation failed because a safely suspended remote Runner was treated as live/idle; that distinct recovery gap is being handled in a follow-up. All three owned sandboxes were independently confirmed absent. No claim of full Railway qualification yet. ## Risks - The new fingerprint shape may reset a session once when upgrading from older fingerprint metadata. It is stable across subsequent cache replacements. - A versioned skill is identified by its immutable selected version; materialization and admission still enforce availability. Unversioned skills retain their existing path boundary. - A native terminal describes the accepted execution result. Workspace and issue settlement remain separate authorities. - This does not yet prove the ten-deploy staging campaign, natural database autosuspension or the production canary. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution and live integration-test tools. The exact runtime model variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): complete volume-free controller admission and recovery (#18543)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its volume-free web server must admit remote warm execution without
depending on a local disk.
> - Fresh run rows retain the initial legacy label during workspace
preparation.
> - The native runtime selector commits the execution mode later.
> - The earlier guard rejected valid remote runs before that selection.
> - This PR checks storage during preparation and the resolved lifecycle
during runtime selection.
> - Agent-file recovery also has to reconstruct disposable cache paths
from the retained remote directory.
> - The deployment test removes the complete predecessor home, including
immutable caches, to enforce that contract.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #18518, #18529, #18533.
**What happened?**
A real Codex/Daytona deployment test failed during setup because the
volume-free workspace guard checked the initial run label. After fixing
admission, controller retirement first failed on an immutable skill
cache. Removing that cache exposed a production recovery failure: B
rejected the saved agent-directory path from A, even though the remote
execution identity was unchanged. The next live attempt recovered that
directory and transferred the same runner, but adoption then tried to
recreate provider launch assets from the deleted controller home.
**Expected behavior**
Allow remote workspace preparation before native selection. Reject
actual legacy and per-turn execution at the runtime boundary. Delete the
entire stopped predecessor home, including immutable caches, without
following links to shared dependencies. B must reconstruct its local
agent-file projection from the exact registered remote lease while
preserving the save baseline and unsaved remote edits. Reattaching an
already-running provider must not prepare a new launch or require the
old launch files. The full backend must recover the admitted
instructions from the matching durable run checkpoint.
**Steps to reproduce**
Run the explicit
`rolling-web-deployment.runner-codex.daytona.recover-controller` Product
E2E cell with a complete server/UI build, disposable PostgreSQL/S3, and
an owned Daytona fixture. The new boundary regressions also reproduce
the premature guard and missing runtime rejection without a model call.
**Paperclip version or commit**
The failures were observed on
`247552fe0719dcc92f7b42c50b658be6f624986d`. This branch is based on
`e122478368`.
## What Changed
- Validate Runner and remote workspace authority before runtime
selection without trusting the initial run label.
- Reject resolved legacy execution and local-source fallback, preserving
the native warm-policy check before admission.
- Rebind remote agent-file caches on ephemeral controllers and retrieve
their validated contents without uploading over the retained execution.
Preserve pending saves when the remote collector is unavailable.
- Restore over-quota remote directories without applying save quotas to
run admission; ordinary saves still enforce quotas.
- Skip provider launch asset materialization when adopting an existing
Runner. A real-process regression deletes the old skill/instruction
sources before reattachment.
- Recover admitted system instructions through Runner-owned checkpoint
validation for the same run, session and context digest. Fresh launches
still compose current instructions.
- Make the attention-retention test advance past its database-assigned
deadline, fixing a clean-master clock mismatch.
- Serialize remote collection and cleanup across controllers with an
operation-scoped Postgres advisory lock; fence stale cache-path updates.
- Keep synthetic deployment probe tasks in a separate disposable company
so they cannot block the business completion oracle.
- Share the launcher's directory cleanup with rolling retirement. Reject
a symlink root and skip linked descendants.
- Test admission with real PostgreSQL transactions and cleanup with real
read-only directories and external symlinks.
- Update developer documentation and the canonical qualification record.
Broader deployment acceptance remains in progress.
## Verification
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed.
- All 156 workspace preparation, runtime selection and ephemeral
contract tests passed. Two new regressions failed before the source fix.
- Seven focused Product E2E cleanup/replacement tests and `pnpm
test:e2e:runner:typecheck` passed.
- `pnpm test:run` stopped at an unrelated 15-second chat integration
timeout after 338 passes. That exact test passed in isolation without
increasing its timeout. The later full-suite shards did not run.
- `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit` reported 5,898 passes and 13 failures.
Clean master reproduced 11 failures in unchanged onboarding
expectations, operating receipts, Pi catalog assertions, workflow
bootstrap counts and embedded PostgreSQL startup. The other two workflow
assertions were fixed by the intervening master commit. These failures
are retained, not counted as passes.
- All 122 workspace-preparation tests pass after the reviewed
host-fallback fix. The first broader attempt exposed a test environment
leak; restoring the ephemeral flag between cases resolved it.
- Agent-directory and instruction regressions passed 179 tests. Five
focused cache-loss cases pass: different home, same path on an empty
filesystem, foreign lease, concurrent controller, and missing collector.
- The live fixture at `a18f6b85a3` gracefully stopped A and deleted its
entire home, then failed the 420-second remote reattachment deadline on
the saved local agent-directory path. That failure is retained; exact
owned sandbox cleanup was independently confirmed. The next live attempt
at `e14ca5f3e9` restored the cache and transferred the same runner, but
failed while rematerializing launch assets from A. Both failures are
retained and their owned sandboxes confirmed absent. No active-overlap,
ten-deploy, or production-canary acceptance is claimed.
- All 71 related Runner adoption/recovery cases pass, including the new
removed-context regression (failed before the source fix).
- The revised full agent-directory suite passed 110 cases and failed
three cleanup timing cases. All 20 cleanup/cache-loss cases then passed
in isolation with unchanged timeouts, including over-quota recovery.
- Server and Runner TypeScript checks pass after the latest corrections;
the live retry remains pending.
- The live test at `67714af9ff` adopted the same remote execution after
A was deleted, then failed while the full backend read the retired
instruction bundle. All owned sandboxes were independently confirmed
absent. Its regression now passes with actual backend recovery and no
new thread or turn. All 59 backend factory tests and focused checkpoint
identity tests pass. Runner and server TypeScript checks pass; the exact
committed server build passes. A fresh paid-model retry followed.
- The attention-retention CI timeout reproduced on clean master. The
deadline correction passes all 53 tests in that file with unchanged
timeouts.
- The real `cd690de4d3` run transferred the same runner/session after
deleting A, completed, and completed the next revision. During handoff,
372 reads and 38 saves had zero failures; all 38 saves were verified.
The full attempt was interrupted because the probe's open task
contaminated the business company oracle. This remains incomplete
evidence. The scope regression fails before the fixture fix, then
passes; all nine deployment support tests and E2E typecheck pass. All
three owned sandboxes were confirmed absent and temporary
credentials/storage were cleaned up. A clean corrected attempt is
running.
## Risks
- The runtime guard must still reject legacy and per-turn execution
before dispatch. Tests cover these refusals and a valid resolved warm
policy.
- Directory permission changes apply only during cleanup of stopped,
test-owned homes. Traversal does not follow symlinks. This changes no
production cache permissions.
- Cache reconstruction must not change remote execution authority or
rebase the original save baseline. Tests verify foreign-lease rejection,
preserved receipts, and absence of local-to-remote upload.
- Postgres locking is scoped to active remote file work and adds no idle
polling; local/durable-server locking remains unchanged.
- No schema or public API changes. External conversation exemptions
remain unchanged.
## Model Used
OpenAI GPT-6 Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution
and live integration-test tools. The exact runtime model variant and
context-window size are not exposed in this session.

test(server): avoid deep traversal in durable file assertions (#18533)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Cloud web servers restore agent files from shared storage after replacement. > - The durability test checks restoration, corruption, cancellation and retry. > - Its generic equality assertions traverse every byte in many large buffers. > - The post-merge check for #18531 exceeded the 15-second test timeout. > - This change uses native buffer equality and keeps every byte check. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18531. The post-merge Cloud-source verification run timed out in the new cold-folder test. Other shards passed. The unchanged test passed locally. This change removes avoidable assertion cost; it does not increase test or production timeouts. ## What Changed - Use `Buffer.equals` for the cold-folder content assertions. - Keep the concurrency, cancellation, cleanup, old-projection and retry assertions. - Record packaged-image proof, the hosted deployment state and the original CI failure in the existing plan. ## Verification - Eight durability tests passed against a real local PostgreSQL fixture. Object storage uses controlled asynchronous streams. - The same test file took 10.03 seconds before and 5.90 seconds after this change. The changed cold-folder case took 561 ms after the change. - The first local attempt could not start embedded PostgreSQL and ran no tests. The existing external test database enabled the comparison. - Original failed CI: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41296253723 . That failure remains in the qualification record. - Server typecheck and build passed. All latest-head PR checks passed, including the full test, typecheck, build and browser gates. One cancelled runner job was retried after its log showed an infrastructure shutdown; the retry passed. This PR changes no production code or database schema. ## Risks - A failed content check now reports a boolean mismatch instead of a large byte diff. Equality still covers buffer length and every byte. - Local timing is evidence for the fixture, not a general CI performance guarantee. - Hosted active-agent and rollout acceptance remain incomplete as recorded in the plan. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact runtime snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. Used code editing, shell execution and test analysis. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): restore durable agent folders with bounded concurrency (#18531)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A replacement web server restores agent files from shared storage. > - The old restore reads each object in sequence. > - Modest network latency makes a 1,024-file folder exceed its deadline. > - This pull request uses at most eight concurrent restore streams. > - Every file must pass its size and hash checks before the folder is published. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18518 and #18526. Local deployment qualification found that a 64 MiB folder could not be restored after the old server filesystem was removed. ## What Changed - Restore at most eight files concurrently within the existing file authority service. - Cancel sibling transfers on failure. Await all workers before removing the temporary folder. - Keep the existing deadline, file-transfer database pool, authorization and publication rules. - Add regression coverage for bounded concurrency, corruption, settled cancellation, retained previous bytes and retry. - Document the behavior and update the deployment plan with local qualification evidence. ## Verification - Real PostgreSQL and S3-compatible storage: 1,024 files of 64 KiB each, plus instructions, with 25 ms added to each object GET. Delete the entire predecessor home and disable local adoption before reading through the successor. - Before: the read failed after 30.065 seconds. After: the same case passed in 4.180 seconds and fetched 1,025 objects. All owned test resources were cleaned. - The durable-file suite passed eight tests against PostgreSQL. Server TypeScript compilation passed. All 56 latest-head CI checks are complete and green or intentionally skipped, including full typecheck, build, unit and browser suites. Greptile is 5/5 with no review findings or open threads. - The plan separately records a released-container overlap proof: 130 reads, 26 saves, zero failures, two deleted predecessor containers and a retained authenticated session. That image predates this restore change. ## Risks - A cold folder can use eight simultaneous streams instead of one. Two file-transfer database connections bound the simultaneous restore callers. Streams verify bytes without loading entire objects into memory. - The 30-second deadline is unchanged. fix(server): deliver answers promptly during web handoff (#18530)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its web servers can overlap while Railway replaces one deployment.
> - An answer can reach the replacement while the original server owns
the native execution.
> - A competing delivery claim can make the owner miss the first
notification.
> - The normal retry interval then delays the answer by 30 seconds.
> - This pull request gives pending answers a one-second retry in
ephemeral mode and verifies delivery between separate processes.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #18518 and #18526. This closes a measured native-question delivery
delay during control-plane web deployment overlap.
## What Changed
- Register question delivery through its owning service. Use a
one-second retry for ephemeral servers and retain the configured cadence
for ordinary servers.
- Keep the existing durable claims, response identity, authorization and
continuation behavior.
- Add a two-process PostgreSQL regression for a claim held by the
non-owning server. Verify one command, settlement, idle behavior and
reactivation by another committed answer.
- Keep the assembled startup fixture on the real registration function.
Update the deployment plan with current evidence and remaining
acceptance work.
## Verification
- The same local two-process race took 30.157 seconds before the fix and
1.197 seconds after it. The command sink is simulated; PostgreSQL,
notification transport, interaction response, delivery claim and worker
are real.
- The cross-process regression and assembled startup suite passed 122
tests. No further sweeps or pending inspections occur after settlement.
A second answer wakes the owner through PostgreSQL without a test-owned
sweep.
- Server TypeScript compilation passed. All PR CI gates passed on

Qualify rolling web deployments and preserve Stop through handoff (#18526)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The web server owns request handling and remote execution coordination. > - Deployment must start a ready replacement while the old server still serves. > - An outage test does not prove that two live servers can overlap safely. > - This pull request adds a separate Product E2E cell for that boundary. > - The existing run, file, recovery, and retained-session checks still apply. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18518. The runtime prerequisite is merged; this PR qualifies its ephemeral server and deployment contracts. ## What Changed - Add the explicit `rolling-web-deployment` Codex Daytona workflow. - Start independent A/B/C homes and compiled builds behind a test ingress. - Wait for readiness before routing, then drain and delete the old home. - Observe active authority before handoff and use the existing read-only recovery oracle. - Require ordinary reads and saves to succeed throughout replacement. Read back every accepted save exactly once. - Preserve the five-minute outage suites and their existing validators. - Add a model-free supervisor smoke and an unready replacement control. - Require graceful exit before deleting an old home; forced cleanup cannot satisfy the oracle. - Preserve a durable Stop through lease release/expiry until the recovered execution owner acknowledges it. Permit only fenced reattachment of the original execution for Stop cleanup; submit no new turn. - Exclude events saved by A during shutdown from evidence of B making progress. ## Verification - E2E TypeScript check passed. - Affected harness checks: 143 passed. Catalog, fixture and report checks: 120 passed. - Actual supervisor smoke passed two replacements: 436 reads, 45 saves, zero request failures, and confirmed owned resource cleanup. - B became ready in 18.7 seconds; C became ready in 109.2 seconds. A prior C timeout remains failed evidence. - Fresh browser proof: 11 checks passed, 246 reads, 50 acknowledged saves, zero failures, 1,058ms reconnect, both old homes deleted and cleanup confirmed. - Stop lease-gap regression: three PostgreSQL delivery tests passed with a simulated provider edge. Current server TypeScript build/vendoring passed. - Full harness: 5,814 passed, 17 failed, four skipped. Two shutdown races passed the focused file; two report timeouts passed an isolated 42-test rerun. Onboarding/workflow-security/Pi/date-expired fixtures are unchanged on inspected master; the host embedded PostgreSQL fixture remains a setup limitation. This is not a green full local suite. - CI at `172509b8be` passed all gates. Greptile is 5/5 with every review thread resolved. The earlier access-service race failure passed its isolated regression and the subsequent full CI. - Final review corrections: six focused executor cases, three PostgreSQL command-delivery cases, 19 harness cases and server/E2E typechecks passed. - Three live attempts failed before agent creation: two harness setup gaps were fixed, then provider authentication failed. The saved OpenAI key returns 401; a refresh is pending. The Daytona probe reported cleanup uncertain, and no sandbox with that attempt label was found through the authenticated staging manager. No live model execution is claimed. - Live Runner overlap, released-container qualification and hosted deployment proof remain pending. Merging this opt-in qualification lane does not claim those results. ## Risks - The source lane shares workspace dependencies and does not establish container packaging correctness. - The live workflow needs an explicitly owned S3 bucket, PostgreSQL, pinned remote image and provider credentials. - Qualification cleanup stops all owned processes after failure. A failed replacement must not be reported as a pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Tool use, code execution and repository review. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(server): support volume-free web server handoff (#18518)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its web server also owns controller admission and user commands. > - A rolling deployment starts a replacement before the old server exits. > - Shared database state alone does not preserve local agent files, browser chunks, or in-process commands. > - This pull request adds an opt-in ephemeral server contract and a local overlap test. > - The benefit is a web server that can relinquish traffic and local files without losing acknowledged work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #18403, #18327, #18335, #18341. **Current behavior** The control-plane web server still has local agent-file authority and local command targets. A new container can miss saved bytes or send a command to the wrong process. An existing browser tab also needs chunks from its original build. **Proposed behavior** Eligible servers share only PostgreSQL, object storage and stable secrets. A replacement waits for readiness. The old server drains admitted requests, keeps owner commands available through handoff, and releases controller leases. Explicit maintenance adopts existing files before the volume is removed. **Reason and benefit** This is the application prerequisite for rolling app-only deployments. Schema migrations and permanent multi-replica operation are outside this change. ## What Changed - Store agent-file manifests in PostgreSQL and immutable bytes in S3. Treat local roots as disposable projections. Preserve existing permission checks and edit conflicts. - Add an explicit migration, eligibility and object-retention command to the production runtime bundle. - Add `/api/ready`, admitted-request drain, browser restart signaling and retained immutable UI chunks. - Carry transaction-aware work hints across controllers during handoff and active execution. Keep listeners closed when idle. - Deliver durable Stop and runtime responses to the execution owner. Recheck request lifecycle and access before response dispatch. - Reject local-only configuration in ephemeral mode. Keep the feature disabled for existing installations by default. - Add an isolated PostgreSQL/S3/proxy/browser deployment harness with independent server homes and retained failure evidence. ## Verification - All CI checks pass on `ce17b95019d3cf1cabd357d19b6d37f96782cc5c`: workspace typecheck, build, Runner checks, server/general tests and browser shards. Greptile reviewed the runtime changes at 5/5 with all findings resolved; the final commit updates maps and the plan. - Local targeted checks passed: coordinator 27; Stop/recovery 33; PostgreSQL command delivery 6; route/workspace regressions 8; bootstrap Stop 1; restart recovery 75. PostgreSQL command tests simulate the provider edge. - Local browser proof passed 91 reads and 19 saves; reconnect took 1,013ms. The tab opened Audit from S3 after deletion of A's whole home/build. This uses compiled workspace code and local-trusted auth, not released containers or live agents. - Local workspace typecheck/build passed; current server and runtime bundle passed. The earlier broad local suite was stopped after three hours and is not a passing receipt. Its retained failures and isolated reruns are documented in the plan. - Stacked #18526 adds stricter graceful-exit proof, an unready replacement control, live Runner qualification and a Stop handoff correction. Hosted enablement remains gated on those results and Cloud #1096. No hosted stack has been enabled. ## Risks - Apply migration 0422 before enabling the feature. Existing data must pass each owner's migration and eligibility checks. Do not discard a volume based on a single migration page. - Durable manifests remain authoritative after the opt-in is disabled. Rolling back to a binary that ignores them is unsupported. - Cold directory restoration and complete shutdown timing still need qualification before enabling a hosted stack. - Retained UI assets must cover the supported browser and rollback window. Cleanup is explicit; no new idle maintenance polling is introduced. - This change does not claim production zero downtime or authorize a fleet-wide enablement. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, code editing, shell execution and browser automation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): recover controllers across webserver replacement (#18343)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Native execution runs in a remote Runner while the webserver owns its controller. > - Encrypted PRP checkpoints and session snapshots already survive a webserver restart in Postgres. > - Ordinary warm and per-turn admission still needs local markers and supervisor metadata to find that state. > - Replacing the webserver with an empty native controller directory can therefore lose a usable retained session. > - This change adds bounded recovery metadata to the existing snapshot transaction and reconstructs local projections from the selected durable source. > - The benefit is native execution continuity across webserver replacement, with the existing ownership and agent lifecycle policies. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Native remote controller recovery and retained-session continuation during a webserver upgrade. **Subsystem affected** server/ — native runtime, checkpoint persistence, recovery scheduling and internal upgrade reporting. Product E2E qualification also changes. **Current behavior** Without both the local PRP marker and supervisor file, normal continuation can return before discovering the saved Postgres checkpoint. The snapshot already exists in Postgres, but its local reuse compatibility envelope cannot be reconstructed. **Proposed behavior** Select the existing durable source, validate its identity and ownership, restore its PRP state and supervisor projection, then use normal authenticated admission. Missing or inconsistent evidence holds recovery. It does not authorize fresh provider work. **Reason and benefit** A replacement webserver must recover active execution and later continue its retained session without the old server's native files. This is one component of deployment continuity. HTTP traffic switching, workspace storage migration and Railway rollout remain separate. **Breaking changes** No new public endpoint, schema migration or database pool. The private run-profile envelope is additive. Disk-independent rollback also requires a reader for the staged controller format and compact checkpoint part; the first production release containing these readers is the floor. Older file-backed sessions need an owner checkpoint or the bounded internal importer. **Additional context** Related foundations: #17401, #17916, #17254, #14621, #14622. The implementation contract and open acceptance gates are in [the dated plan](doc/plans/2026-10-30-native-controller-checkpoints.md). ## What Changed - Persist a versioned recovery envelope, at most 4 KiB, beside the redacted session snapshot in its existing transaction. Keep it out of public run projections. - Compare frozen admission separately from prepared attachment instructions during staged recovery, preserving exact template/identity/authority checks. - Bound the existing lazy checkpoint pool at three connections after measured two-slot burst backlog; keep request/renewal capacities and SQL operation counts unchanged. The tuning is a separate commit. - Discover and restore the exact selected retained source without local native markers. Preserve the 32-candidate window, progress barriers and current authority checks. - Fence snapshot and result writes. Acquire coordinator, issue and run locks in order and check expiry after lock waits. Combine snapshot ownership/read work into one statement. - Reuse existing recovery deadlines and drain/resume scheduling. Retained-owner waits preserve the original unstarted run and actual lease deadline. Stop, ownership and provider-progress fences precede deferral. Add bounded native evidence reporting, retained-source import and retention protection. - Admit a settled warm source with an authenticated idle goal-read suffix while retaining active-work and mixed-authority holds. - Permit lifecycle `turn.stop` checkpoints after accepted results under existing ownership fences. Claim the existing successor coordinator before retiring the old warm session, and stage shared attachments only after verified retirement. Preserve omitted isolated-home defaults and existing fresh skill-selection order during recovery without hiding real configuration changes. - Carry the exact durable six-field PRP binding during active recovery after a healthy warm handoff. Keep the Runner mismatch guard and preserve opaque attachment IDs. - Preserve an already verified active or idle warm process during remote preparation; revalidate its proof/liveness and retain later authenticated PRP attachment. Ordinary resumed leases retain suspension checks. - Drain retained source events under their original authority, reconcile immutable source accounting and block unknown source tool dispatch before target work. - Persist compact staged handoff intent through authenticated adoption and recover direct/listener command-loss windows without another Runner or duplicate attachment. - Rebuild suspended lifecycle receipts for resumed prepared tasks, and retry missing lifecycle reads after partial PRP materialization without overwriting contradictory evidence. - Add normal warm/per-turn diskless continuation coverage, real Postgres races and SQL-cost checks. Add a reproducible paired load workload. - Give only the explicit outage fixture a 15-minute provider idle window, with a red/green catalog regression preserving all production timing and lifecycle policies. - Publish the goal-less task-session pointer in the existing post-acceptance terminal checkpoint transaction, with current ownership, accepted-result, reset and newer-progress fences. Keep a private bound receipt so late completion cannot duplicate or resurrect publication. - Use a retained warm sandbox in the dedicated continuity fixture, and accept an exact output token followed by an explanation. Keep the strict identity oracle. - Extend the explicit Daytona cell to a five-minute active outage and another replacement after completion. Require retained provider identity, a new tool receipt and a useful follow-up result. Add an owned loopback Postgres E2E fixture for hosts that cannot start embedded Postgres. ## Verification **Merge recommendation — `fc68584ce6231a02e47ecd743f55b036ccea034f`: ready for the qualified native-controller component.** Full CI, fresh review, local application paths, controlled performance qualification and the strict live Linux/Daytona case pass. Independent resource cleanup is complete. Broader rollout, browser reconnection and the unexecuted transport/platform combinations remain integration gates. Integrated 484 passed full local recursive typecheck/build and ordinary active→completion→cache-loss→C component qualification. Fresh review then found a valid attached-wake failure: preparation appends attachment instructions before the verifier compares execution to the frozen admission. 9f4 fixes that by separately checking the pre-preparation admission and exact prepared execution. Both hashes are captured privately per admission; the full template, identity, configuration and authority checks remain. Its regression fails before the fix; 36 focused cases, 42 staged source/target cases and server typecheck pass afterward. The review thread is resolved. Exact-head full CI passes ([run 41168228822](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41168228822): 48 successful jobs, one intended skip); the complete `pnpm test:run` partitions are forced, with the five native suites in the Runner lane. This is not a claim that an unsharded local command passed. The fresh exact-head Greptile check succeeds with 5/5 and all six threads resolved. The original two-connection database comparison closes **steady PASS and burst FAIL**. Every relative CPU/WAL/request-p99 gate passes and all operations/ownership remain correct, but candidate arm 3 drains in 1,015.99 ms and baseline arm 4 in 1,059.67 ms against the unchanged 1,000 ms absolute gate. Those results remain failed. A separate 2→3→4→2 diagnostic reproduces drain times 1,051.57 / 956.79 / 882.02 / 1,065.72 ms: three is the smallest tested passing cap, and the repeated two-cap failure survives run-order/cache effects. Separately reviewable `fc68584ce6` changes the existing lazy checkpoint pool default to three connections. Request capacity stays ten and liveness two; idle release, shutdown fencing, transaction counts and pool count are unchanged. Thirteen DB lifecycle/cap tests and DB typecheck pass. Full recursive typecheck/build pass at exact |

Preserve selected Google services when setup resumes (#18048)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections control which external services an agent can use. > - Google Workspace setup lets a person choose services and read or write access. > - A draft lost that choice after a declined or expired OAuth handoff. > - Finish setup could then show all services with write access instead of the saved narrow choice. > - This pull request saves the exact draft choice without treating it as granted access. > - The benefit is safe setup recovery that preserves the person's choice and existing account limits. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15545. The duplicate search found no open PR for Workspace draft consent recovery. Related #18000 concerns satisfied gateway access requests, not saved OAuth setup intent. **What happened?** A cold Workspace draft resumed with the new-account service defaults. The selected request lived only in short-lived OAuth state. Denial consumed that state. The picker ignored draft connections. **Expected behavior** Finish setup restores the same person's saved service choice. It does not use another person's choice, a broad profile hint, or a credential grant as draft intent. An old draft with no reliable choice asks the person to choose services. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a new Google Workspace connection. Select Gmail read-only. Turn off Drive and Calendar. 2. Continue to Google, then decline authorization. 3. Close the setup page. Return through Finish setup. 4. Open the service picker. Before this fix, all three services can be enabled with write access. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in tests on master `820c458465fa40137c81fe510f3e6dc573b4f895`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated and local source builds. The source regression uses real PostgreSQL fixtures and the production React setup components. Live provider acceptance of this repair is still pending deployment. ## What Changed - Save validated, non-secret draft intent before managed or customer-owned OAuth. Bind it to company, connection, actor, grant kind, and subject. - Restore that intent after denial, state expiry, and cold Finish setup. Keep active reconnect bound to its saved grant. Do not change new-account defaults. - Preserve agent-to-human setup handoffs. Consume only the addressed person's reviewed proposal. Keep other people's proposals. - Lock and merge the current draft before saving intent. Return 409 if its credential identity or method changed during setup. - Preserve the latest saved choice across overlapping customer-owned starts. Merge both current configuration records under short locks. Reject stale client-binding changes. Keep each OAuth state's own requested scopes. - Add shared, service, handoff, picker, and cold-page regression tests. Update the connector contract and existing feature plan. - Route the default ungrouped test/release paths through six sequential exact-cover chat partitions. Preserve remaining server/native coverage, explicit grouped CI, selection-first execution and shared-database paths. - Correct the retention test driver so pending owned real I/O does not advance logical deadlines. Pump zero-duration connection timers and add a held-I/O regression; keep production scheduling and original timing assertions unchanged. The shared helper is needed by the server and picker to validate the same narrow binding. It does not resolve credentials or grant access. No production schema migration, new route, provider scope or deployment configuration is added. The test-harness changes do not change production timers. ## Verification ### Current candidate: source qualification passed; live acceptance pending - Current published candidate: `82d13d4d698a5579378b5d506cb7a1f9cb64b5c8`, tree `78d6a821ce53f481fe3e9991edce56f0acffb22f`. It combines the Workspace repair with launcher commit `bf29c9` and retention-test commit `e25987`, then integrates master `493e229d93ba7798e80152f4549e2e9177ce50ae`. The integration brings 40 upstream commits across 713 files. One launcher conflict keeps upstream validated CI selection and its selection-first path, then applies six default chat partitions only without a selection. The authored PR diff has 16 files, 833 additions and 100 deletions; it adds no authored lockfile or `.github` changes. The public head is confirmed at this revision. Fresh CI and review passed as recorded below. Source qualification is complete using exact-tree full CI and the local results below. The separate local whole command was interrupted by host disk protection and is not called a pass. Live repaired-draft acceptance remains pending deployment. - Exact clean `82d13d4` passed one Node 24.19.0 builtin-only run: 41/41 cases (37 launcher and four CI-workflow cases), zero failures/skips. HEAD, tree and relevant file hashes stayed unchanged and clean before, at start and after. This proves launcher fixtures, not real chat execution, current typecheck/build, the dependency-backed selection graph, or full feature acceptance. - The new default ungrouped whole command uses six sequential exact-cover chat partitions, then the remaining server suites, workspaces and serialized suites: 28 expected invocations. It preserves all native suites, including upstream usage coverage. The plain ungrouped release launch path also changes. Explicit grouped CI, validated selection and shared-database execution stay unchanged. Launcher hard RED had three expected body failures and two unchanged passes; the repaired focused five and final 37 passed. A later 41-case staged-merge pass is retained separately; the clean 82 run above is the frozen proof. - Fresh [CI run 41153113944](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41153113944) completed successfully on October 31 at 01:14:53 UTC. Current head has 52 successful check runs, four conditional skips and no pending/failing checks; legacy Snyk also passed. The skips are test-file selection, the optional paired benchmark and two Storybook checks. The full server/chat/workspace/serialized matrix, all eight e2e shards, normal build, build-gap typecheck, Runner checks and final aggregate gates passed. Build and all three chat job logs identify checkout `e5e831fd3a8534d0d0f1e892118c0f8fbe12dd92`, merging this head into `493e229d93`. Its Git tree is exactly `78d6a821ce53f481fe3e9991edce56f0acffb22f`, identical to the clean candidate. The six real chat partitions passed 314, 358, 273, 239, 321 and 311 cases: 1,816 total. Other cases shown as skipped in each partition were selection exclusions, not extra passed cases. This is current tree-equivalent CI proof, not a pass of the separate default ungrouped local whole command. - Fresh [Greptile summary](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18048#issuecomment-6473856992), edited October 31 at 01:05:04 UTC, explicitly reviews exact head `82d13d4` at 5/5 with no actionable code issue. Its exact-head check passed. The prior overlapping-start discussion is resolved. This review is source-only, not provider or live acceptance. - Exact clean `82d13d4` passed full recursive typecheck and normal `pnpm build` on the independent darwin/arm64 snapshot. Typecheck finished on October 31 at 01:27:33 UTC; build finished at 01:28:33 UTC. Both exited 0. Normal native preparation and code signing passed. Source HEAD, tree and tracked/untracked state stayed unchanged and clean. `pnpm check:token-gates` also passed all token, palette and ClipLab checks on this candidate. The earlier forced-clone `ENOSYS` preflight remains recorded as setup failure, not an assertion result. - The unchanged default `pnpm test:run` started at 01:51:33.796 UTC on clean exact `82d13d4`. All six real chat partitions passed: 358, 314, 273, 239, 311 and 321 cases, or 1,816 actual cases. The original FIFO and ambiguous-retry cases both passed under their unchanged 15-second limits. General-server then reported 37 completed file rows with 5,438 passed cases and five default remote-continuity skips, including all 498 tool-access service cases and all 83 connection-route cases. At 02:39:44 UTC, the unchanged 5-GiB host-disk guard terminated the owned run. The child ended with SIGTERM and the container/harness exited 143, with no OOM or recorded assertion failure. Only seven of 28 RUN invocations started. Retention had no completed local row. Later invocations did not run. This whole local command is interrupted/incomplete, not passed. - A coverage check found no default suite missing from current full PR CI. The maintained launcher tests prove exact coverage for all 12 PR server shards, chat and five native suites; all configured workspace projects; and all nine serialized shards. The final Runner CI shard executes the five native server suites. The 41 local launcher/workflow cases cover six sequential chat children, per-child isolation, native retention, fail-fast propagation and unchanged explicit selection/shared-database paths. The actual six-chat run above exercises that changed default path. The remaining unqualified local difference is uninterrupted sequential whole-command composition and resource accumulation, not omitted test selection. Current exact-tree full CI supplies broad source-test qualification; no local whole-pass claim or provider acceptance is inferred. - A task-owned remote runner was considered to complete that separate composition check. Its provider rejected the requested allocation with per-sandbox limits of 8 GiB RAM and 10 GiB disk. No sandbox was admitted and no remote tests ran. No tests, timeouts, assertions, database synchronization, source or provider settings were changed to avoid the capacity limit. Historical a0 failures remain below. No deployment or live repaired-draft acceptance has run. ### Bounded follow-up on the prior source - On a0, one finite phase-traced chat diagnostic executed exactly the two failed cases. Both passed (1,374 and 1,767 ms); 1,814 other cases were filtered, not passed. This did not reproduce a blocked await or establish the original monolithic timeout cause. No assertion or 15-second limit changed. - The retention diagnosis preserved an initial zero-body selector failure, then corrected only the selector: one original case passed in 783 ms, with 42 filtered. Trace showed the old settling helper advancing logical time while real I/O was active. A new held-I/O regression then failed hard because the old helper advanced 1,000 ms. This proves a test-driver defect, not the precise cause of the old 5,340 ms full-run gap. - The first manual-clock repair failed the complete 44-case file: 43 passed, one body hit 15 seconds and cleanup hit 30 seconds. Its planned mutant did not run. Source then identified a fresh PostgreSQL connection's zero-duration timer. The corrected driver pumps zero-duration timers while initial readiness or tracked I/O is pending, without advancing logical Date. That pre-integration file passed 44/44 with no skips. A separate scratch-only 5,000 ms normal-continuation mutant failed the original hard `5000 < 3000` assertion; its expected failure is not a test pass. The original page-count, fairness, expiry and quiet assertions stayed intact. The authored repair does not change the production worker. The merged master changes an older retention case and dependencies; these pre-integration results are not a complete 82 retention or whole-suite pass. ### Historical qualification: SHA-bound, not 82 acceptance - Historical a0 candidate: `a0f9089fc1ff466bf4e1eeddc5b1a910d09e380b`, tree `b9d73713319dcd52b9eaa6053008b5190e43fdf1`. It adds the overlapping-start repair to parent `6c18`, which already merged pinned master `1511c92965325249ed6b52dd5be52eb6d736fbfa`. That candidate changed 12 files. Its CI and review passed; its local full qualification remained failed/incomplete. - Greptile's previous `6c18` review found P1 [Latest service choice gets lost](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18048#discussion_r4425965828), confidence 4/5. Two hard-assert regressions reproduced it on untouched `6c18`: the already-bound path overwrote the later choice, and real first-use client stamping also restored the old choice. Existing OAuth states/grants were not widened, but a later setup could restore an older request. The new repair covers both write boundaries without holding locks over external work or copying another attempt's scopes. - The complete affected service file passed 498 tests with no failures or skips. All 31 required controls ran, including both unchanged RED cases, 14 new client-drift cases, seven earlier identity guards, reconnect/cold-resume cases and upstream transaction tests. The tested three-file patch is byte-identical to this commit; the connector contract update is separate. Independent scoped review found no additional actionable issue. Fresh Greptile reviewed exact `a0f` at 5/5 with no actionable findings. The previous P1 thread is resolved. - On exact `a0f`, the five shared/UI files passed 312 tests. An initial complete connection-management run then failed: 74 passed, eight timed out at the unchanged 15-second limit, and one AI-account verification returned 422 instead of 201. The Google addressed-user handoff passed. The container exited 1 without OOM and stopped before chat/token/whole tests. This material failure remains retained and its cause unclassified; the later controlled recovery below is not a causal explanation. - One diagnostic executed the first failed gateway case and the two AI cases with temporary phase-only tracing. All three passed at 8.516, 5.511 and 3.523 seconds; 80 other cases were filtered. Original hard assertions and timeouts stayed unchanged. No timeout or suspected late provider cleanup reproduced, so the complete-file failure remains unresolved. Vitest exited 0; the harness exited 1 because its trace parser missed ANSI prefixes. All 203 events were recovered from retained logs without rerunning tests. Instrumentation was removed. This is not acceptance. - Historical a0 CI [41097596364](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41097596364) completed successfully: 52 successful checks, two expected Storybook skips and no failed/pending checks. Legacy Snyk passed. All 48 CI jobs passed, including all 1,816 chat cases and explicit passing lines for the original 20 local failures. [Server 11/12](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41097596364/job/124207469276) explicitly passed the complete 83-case connection file in 129.49 seconds, including all nine local failure titles. The actual checkout was synthetic merge `06851da6eb969d63e1c7dc9f7c95f08d09fa4ff1`, combining `a0f` with `aa58fa107389e8b9ae5949f7ad815943dfd94292`. This is not standalone local `a0f` qualification and does not erase the nine local route failures. - Linux admission uses Node 24.22.2, pnpm 9.15.4 and Rust 1.97.1. Frozen offline install, exact native hashes and real migrated PostgreSQL 18.1 passed. Native/protocol/build/lock inputs are identical between `6c18` and `a0f`; validated cache reuse retains the actual `6c18` native-build provenance. The selected packaged release binary is not called a fresh `a0f` build. Database synchronization settings stayed on. This admission alone does not explain the route failures. - A fresh Mac snapshot of exact `a0f` passed frozen install, workspace prerequisites, full sequential recursive typecheck and normal `pnpm build`, both on their first attempt. Typecheck completed at 17:43:05 UTC, build at 17:44:43 UTC; both exited 0 with clean tracked/untracked source. Pinned Node 24.19, pnpm 9.15.4, Rust 1.97.1, package concurrency one, Cargo jobs one and a 12 GiB V8 heap ceiling were retained. Largest-process maximum RSS was 7,668,154,368 bytes for typecheck and 10,038,837,248 bytes for build, not aggregate tree peaks. The first build correctly withheld its freshness stamp because 125 ignored, pinned Copilot assets appeared during preparation; exact path/hash analysis explained this. The normal build then recorded a genuine stamp and reused Cargo outputs in 1.18 seconds. No manual stamp, source workaround or gate retry. This is darwin/arm64 static/build proof, not Linux packaging/runtime or full tests. - The historical a0 candidate's token checker passed all four gates across 1,410 files, run directly with pinned Node 24 against the script behind `pnpm check:token-gates`. - The single controlled complete-file comparison passed: baseline `6c18` 83/83 in 287.07 seconds, then candidate `a0f` 83/83 in 293.03 seconds, with zero skips. All nine earlier failure titles passed on both. Both child/container exits were 0, no OOM/interruption; source and native/resolver/PostgreSQL guards matched. This ran only after all owned Mac compilation ended, with fresh processes/databases and identical four-CPU-quota/6-GiB/overlay inputs. No filtering, instrumentation, assertion/timeout/source changes or retry loop. This establishes standalone complete-file recovery, not the cause of the earlier eight timeouts/AI 422. - The first unchanged full `pnpm test:run` on exact clean `a0f` ran from October 30 at 18:01:43 UTC to 21:06:19 UTC. It failed naturally with test and container exit 1, without OOM. General-server reported 1,257 passed, one failed and seven skipped files; 28,633 passed, one failed and 103 skipped tests. Only the first of 22 invocations ran. The later four groups and 21 invocations did not run. The sole failure was the unchanged chat-shard CLI meta-test: its nested projectless pnpm lookup hit the offline network guard. This was a failed full gate, not Google provider acceptance. - A finite environment pair reproduced that one meta-test failure, then passed the same unchanged case after supported `corepack prepare pnpm@9.15.4 --activate` as the existing non-root node user. The cached pnpm payload was identical. Only the missing node-user last-known-good record changed. Core source, dependencies, lockfile, fixtures, assertions, timers and offline guards stayed unchanged. This isolates the nested collection defect; it does not explain the earlier route failures or complete the full gate. - The corrected unchanged full command ran from October 30 at 21:29:03.500 UTC to October 31 at 00:02:44.207 UTC on the same exact clean `a0f`. It failed naturally with exit 1, signal null and no OOM. Source stayed clean before, at start and after. It retained two visible CPUs/quota, 6 GiB, private IPC, normal overlay, matching native inputs, synchronized real PostgreSQL 18.1, and the default five groups/22 invocations. Only the first general-server invocation ran; the other 21 did not run. General-server reported 1,265 files: 1,256 passed, two failed and seven skipped. It reported 28,737 tests: 28,631 passed, three failed and 103 skipped. The two chat cases emitted `Test timed out in 15000ms` at `chat-channels.integration.test.ts:77310` and `:81790`, with durations of 15,045 and 15,058 ms. These were the durable pre-run FIFO notice and ambiguous GitHub text restart/retry cases. The retention case emitted `expected 5340 to be less than 3000` at `skill-version-retention.test.ts:593`. Its real duration was 1,727 ms; 5,340 ms was the recorded fake-time directory-page gap, not a deadline timeout. The timeout stacks do not identify the blocked internal await. The cause of these failures remains unclassified. Inside this same failed run, the complete 83-case connection file and 498-case service file passed. The former Corepack meta-case also passed in 6,396 ms. These component passes do not waive the failed/incomplete full gate. No rerun, cancellation, timeout/assertion change or full-pass claim. A later fresh two-case phase trace passed both chat cases; it did not reproduce or establish the original timeout cause. At that checkpoint, the PR stayed draft. - Prior `6c18` targeted checks passed 930 tests across eight files and token gates. Its selected queue group passed all 53 cases, including the original 20 failures and 12 new named controls. Backlog cases took 10.49 and 8.45 seconds under the unchanged 15-second limit. Another 1,763 chat cases were intentionally filtered. This is historical targeted recovery, not a full pass or proof of the new repair. No timeout or assertion was relaxed. - Prior `6c18` full local qualification failed during serial typecheck: server TypeScript was killed with code 137. Docker confirmed OOM in the 6 GiB container; full tests and build never started. The failure is retained. The new Mac resource plan avoids repeating that undersized run and does not change the shared Docker VM. - Prior CI [41089793558](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41089793558) completed successfully for synthetic merge `a73bffcfa3ede051961bcabcfa576c703d10c932` (`6c18` plus `abc270ee4c03e13b4d6eaad156a41b4ebed4bb0a`). All 48 CI jobs passed; all 1,816 chat cases passed, including explicit log lines for the original 20. Check runs were 51 success, two expected skips and one Greptile failure; legacy Snyk passed. These results do not qualify `a0f` or erase its local route failures. - Red proof on the unmodified master baseline: cold picker and Finish setup restore broad defaults; managed and customer-owned drafts lack saved intent. The stale setup tests also fail before the lock guard. - Live staging baseline `b25f3e2af8e77d882cd22d36ca55640e6468e46f` also reproduces the ordinary failure: select Gmail read-only only, cancel at Google, reload the connector catalog, then Finish setup. All three groups return enabled at read/write. Authorization was declined; no new Google access was granted. This is baseline failure evidence, not a deployed-fix pass. - Historical affected suites: 800 tests passed before the final lock guard. The final focused service and handoff cases passed 126 tests after that guard. These are not results for the integrated candidate. - Historical `pnpm -r typecheck` and final lock-guard server typecheck passed. The historical a0 candidate passed the full recursive gate separately, as recorded above. - `pnpm build`: passed again on the final lock-guard source in commit `1c31cde0ed199fbf4e41b7649590554f7886dfc2`. - Historical `pnpm check:token-gates` passed; the historical a0 candidate's direct checker pass is recorded above. - `pnpm test:run` on macOS failed on the frozen commit. It exited 1 after 9,432.41 seconds. General server results: 1,195 files passed, 10 failed, eight skipped; 26,706 tests passed, one timed out, 157 skipped. Nine setup hooks timed out while starting embedded PostgreSQL. The retained log records host-wide semaphore exhaustion (`semget`), not disk exhaustion. One unchanged publication-text performance case also timed out. Its cause is not established. Later workspace and serialized groups did not run. This is a failed and incomplete local gate. - The independent full-source Linux run also failed and was incomplete on the same frozen commit. Native and real-database admission passed. Chat integration reported 20 failures in 1,593 tests. Tool-access passed all 479 tests. Native-session-executor passed all 965 tests. Docker interrupted the run after about 48 minutes on October 29. The container exited 143 and was not OOM-killed. The run produced no final group totals or detailed assertion summary. Shell trap metadata reports zero, but this is not a valid test-pass result. Source and evidence remain unchanged. The focused diagnosis below retains those failures; their cause is not assumed from the interruption. Neither historical local full run passed. - A fresh focused replay on the frozen source then executed exactly those 20 case bodies. All 20 failed; this was not a setup-hook failure. The two backlog cases reached the unchanged 15-second timeout. The 18 FIFO cases failed on missing notices or receipt rows. All 18 FIFO cases passed when run alone in a fresh process and database. This supports an order interaction, not a complete cause or baseline conclusion. A separate two-backlog control used RAM-backed temporary storage and real PostgreSQL with synchronization settings on. One backlog case passed in 10.65 seconds; the other still timed out at 15 seconds. No source, assertion or timeout was changed. The full local gate remains open. - Earlier mixed-revision run: it began before the final guard and imported older source before collecting later regression cases. It failed those new cases with that older cached module. This run is retained, not counted as candidate acceptance. The fresh focused run passed all seven stale-setup cases. No case was skipped to hide a failure. - Historical remote gates for `1c31` were terminal and clean: 53 successful contexts and two expected Storybook skips. Main CI [40720536514](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40720536514) passed. Greptile reviewed exact head `1c31cde0ed199fbf4e41b7649590554f7886dfc2` at 5/5 with no actionable findings; the separate review job also passed, and there were no inline review comments. These results do not qualify `6c18`. - CI source qualification: the chat jobs checked out synthetic merge `ef36746b3d2ec52ba5727dcbe4da265a03421fe4`, which merges the PR into `7d75ae0569e41786640cf09647ae8849411d2f22`. All 20 locally failing case names have explicit passing CI log lines. These passes do not establish standalone local acceptance of `1c31`. The merge adds two upstream Teams tests, so it collects 1,595 chat cases instead of 1,593. Neither backlog/FIFO assertions nor their timeouts changed. - Independent source review found an earlier credential-identity race. The guard and seven deterministic cases resolve that finding. A later integration review missed the separate overlapping-start race. Both RED failures and that review miss are retained. The narrow follow-up repair passed 498 service cases, independent source review and fresh remote CI/5-of-5 review; full local qualification remains incomplete. - Source qualification is ready for merge. Live repaired-draft recovery, delivery and Google approval are not established by these results. The local whole command remains explicitly incomplete. ## Risks - Historical drafts without a matching intent now need an explicit service choice. This is deliberate and prevents silent broadening. - A concurrent credential or method edit now returns 409. Reloading lets the person review the changed setup. - Overlapping starts keep separate requested scope sets. Updating draft intent does not relabel an earlier OAuth state's consent request. - Saved intent is not consent. Provider-reported scopes and current action policies still control discovery and dispatch. - No migration is needed. No existing token or grant is rewritten by saving draft intent. - Default ungrouped launch paths now execute six chat children in sequence and 28 whole-command invocations. Exact coverage, local launcher contracts and all six real default chat partitions passed. A complete uninterrupted local whole-command run remains unqualified because of host capacity. - The retention test-clock repair depends on owned-I/O and zero-duration connection-timer progress. The controlled regression, sensitivity mutant and current exact-tree CI protect the original assertion. It did not reach a completed row in the interrupted local whole run. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, described by the runtime as GPT-5 based. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed to this task. feat(skills): make managed content independent of web-server disk (#18334)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use installed skills and exact version pins during execution. > - Managed skills still depended on mutable directories on the web server. > - A replacement server could lose acknowledged edits or remove an unassigned skill whose directory was absent. > - This pull request makes immutable versions the authority for managed content and installed repository reads. > - The server can rebuild delivery files from durable content after replacement. > - This establishes skills readiness for ephemeral web servers. General server draining and workspace recovery remain separate work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Skills services, shared contracts, database receipts, Skill Studio, and runtime delivery. **Problem or motivation** A fresh web server must discover, read, edit, and deliver protected installed skills using the same database, object storage, secrets, and supported application artifacts. It must not need its predecessor's files or process memory. **Proposed solution** Use `managed` ownership with a null source locator. Read installed content by immutable version. Prepare packages before a short publication transaction. Persist execution selections before materialization. Recover exact pinned runtime assets and reject deletion while active or recovering pins exist. **Alternatives considered** Reconstructing a mutable installed directory preserves the old source-of-truth ambiguity. Permanent dual writes create two competing authorities. This change uses one managed model after a bounded legacy conversion. **Roadmap alignment** This improves the existing Skills Manager, Studio, version history, and Cloud execution capabilities. The maintainer supplied the implementation contract. This does not add a separate skills product or deploy fleet changes. Related work: #18082 supplies immutable package storage. #17273 addresses edits outside the API for linked local skills; this PR keeps that source category separate. #2648 is a closed earlier ephemeral-filesystem proposal. ## What Changed - Add managed ownership and focused content publication and execution materialization modules. Keep the archive format and package storage tables. - Publish managed create, save, delete, fork, rename, restore, and catalog content with version checks. Add durable create receipts. Preserve file-save receipt responses. - Return file version identities. Keep Studio drafts after a conflict and provide an explicit reload action. A delayed reload cannot overwrite newer typing or navigation. - Persist exact runtime selections, including empty selections. Rebuild pinned assets and verify their admitted digests on a replacement server. - Preserve source access on forks and disconnected copies. Keep the existing workspace policy category for managed skills. - Add bounded conversion, eligibility, and independent verification phases. Load persisted Cloud configuration in the standalone CLI without seeding or changing it. Reject partial current versions against installed inventories; recover only complete saved content or the exact source. Document storage migration blockers and the compatible rollback floor. - Add separate-process PostgreSQL/S3 qualification and update domain, retention, policy, and UI regressions. - Pass the plugin worker manager into Studio execution, admit restricted `skill_test` mode through native Runner contracts, and preserve admitted scope across native and REST tools. Native tests cannot create ordinary tasks, browse company data, or use external tools. - Select the exact durable Studio revision even when unassigned or Beta skills is off. Persist Studio output and audit atomically with native task completion, preserving the result on replay. ## Verification - Final revision `13e8af480b88ba6fea5737bac4bd81104d604792` passed full CI: all 49 workflow jobs completed successfully ([run 41127396098](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41127396098)). This includes typecheck, test suites, Runner checks, browser checks and build. Greptile review 15 is 5/5 on that same revision, with zero unresolved threads. The PR is ready for review. - Local workspace typecheck and build passed after integrating master. Focused checks passed: 33 execution/completion cases, 52 Runner HTTP cases, 16 managed-content cases, 17 Studio cases, the new real-process CLI regression, map checks and UI token gates. The CLI regression proves inspection does not seed missing Cloud configuration. Server typecheck passed after that fix. - The independent-process PostgreSQL/S3 matrix passed through normal HTTP skill routes. It covers A → B → C replacement, lost commit responses, upload crashes, concurrent saves, binary contents and executable delivery. Metadata listing and warm selected delivery retain zero object downloads. Local timing measurements are recorded; they do not establish hosted latency. - Hosted A → B → C passed on the owned disposable test tenant with external Postgres, S3 and a real remote Paperclip Computer. Predecessor temporary homes were absent. C read and executed B's acknowledged managed save. New runs used repository v1 while v2 was installed. Hashes matched an independently checked exact upstream commit. - Compatible image rollback to `6518b323` passed. Studio retained the unassigned fork's C save. A fresh remote run executed the newer managed content and historical repository pin. The actual shell event confirmed expected hashes, stdout, exit 0 and mode 0555. - Runtime candidate `9200e3fcb4` deployed successfully ([Cloud run 41124147876](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/actions/runs/41124147876)). The final Studio test delivered only the unassigned fork's exact v3, executed its script and persisted a successful output snapshot. Independent command-event inspection confirmed all three hashes, stdout, exit 0 and mode 0555. All 14 installations were version-backed. Independent verification checked all 25 versions: 23 remote objects, two bundled database snapshots, zero blockers. - The deployed image is `9200e3fcb4`. Later master integration, the client-only delayed-reload draft guard and the CLI bootstrap have separate automated proof. The CLI bootstrap was also exercised against the tenant's stored configuration and storage through the same read-only services. This PR does not claim that the deployed image is the final PR revision. - Live Studio checks exposed worker wiring, admission, access scope, exact selection and completion-publication gaps. They are fixed. Failed attempts remain in the evidence. The full local suite exceeded 80 minutes under host contention and was stopped. Later combined/isolated local attempts also timed out; they are not counted as passes. Full CI covers the integrated suites. Earlier CI found an obsolete restart-scope fixture, which was corrected and passed all 52 HTTP cases. - Reproduction and migration: [`doc/skill-ephemeral-web-servers.md`](doc/skill-ephemeral-web-servers.md). Source revisions, deployments, versions, run IDs, hashes and failure history: [`doc/plans/2026-10-30-ephemeral-web-skills.md`](doc/plans/2026-10-30-ephemeral-web-skills.md). ## Risks - Legacy conversion requires stopped admission and retired filesystem-authoritative writers. Pre-conversion binaries are not supported rollback targets afterward. - Cloud readiness requires remote object storage. Local provider receipts and provider mismatches remain blockers until objects are copied and verified. - Linked local sources retain filesystem semantics and are outside the cloud guarantee. - Cold reads still fetch the existing archive format. Warm runtime preparation retains the verified-cache path. - Bundled reconciliation preserves an installed head. Existing release snapshots remain selectable. An older server must not replace a newer head with its shipped files. - No production volumes, fleet defaults, or general deployment coordination change in this PR. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser use. The exact backend model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No subagents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(server): persist run logs and provider traces in S3 (#18327)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators use run logs and restricted provider traces to inspect agent work. > - Local log and trace files depend on the web server's persistent volume. > - That dependency prevents overlapping volume-backed Railway deployments. > - This PR reuses the instance S3 store for batched log and trace payloads with conditional publication. > - Existing Postgres rows retain their contracts; native export recovery reuses events already committed before Runner acknowledgement. > - S3-configured servers automatically copy and verify retained history before a later deployment cutover. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Server run logs, restricted provider traces, storage providers, and migration tooling. **Problem or motivation** Replacing the web server and its disk must preserve committed log output and retained traces. The current S3 mirror can repeatedly upload a growing file. Moving those payloads into Postgres would add database writes, WAL, replication, and backup work. **Proposed solution** Reuse the existing instance storage configuration, S3-compatible provider and credential chain. Store new run logs under run-logs/ and opted-in raw traces under provider-traces/, below the existing prefix. Cloud keeps its existing bucket and bucket-scoped credentials per stack. Add no new configuration switches. Store immutable payload segments and bounded binary range indexes directly in S3. Publish each batch with an ETag-conditional head. Keep existing database ownership and lifecycle records. Recover canonical native exports from their existing validated control event source, checkpointing export progress in S3. Add no new payload writes to Postgres. Preserve local defaults and migrate settled history with verified byte counts and digests. **Alternatives considered** Postgres payload chunks add control-plane load. Repeated whole-file mirrors amplify transfer work. The first index prototype left superseded index nodes; the final binary index keeps all normally published nodes reachable. **Roadmap alignment** This is a storage prerequisite for replacing the main web/API server. It does not enable deployment overlap, detach a volume, or change native Runner protocol acknowledgements. The maintainer approved this implementation scope. ROADMAP.md has no duplicate implementation item. Related PR: #16770 improves the existing in-flight mirror. This PR preserves that legacy backend and uses the existing instance S3 profile for new journals. ## What Changed - Automatically select S3 segments for new logs and opted-in traces when instance file storage uses S3. Reuse bucket, endpoint, region, prefix, path style and credentials. Remove separate backend switches. Keep local-disk instances local. - Share the existing storage configuration resolver with product files. Preserve config-file settings, environment precedence and the existing root prefix. Keep pre-existing run-log mirror settings for legacy history. - Add bounded buffering, conditional ownership fencing, immutable range reads, stable byte offsets, and completion hashing. - Dispatch all existing log consumers through the recorded backend. Coalesce output progress writes and publish live log messages after storage receipts. - Recover interrupted canonical native exports from their existing durable source. Exclude separate credential, cleanup, and reprojection records. Replay missing callback ranges and deduplicate late delivery. Repair settled archives after controller lease expiry. Bound shared repair work and stop it when all readers cancel. Serve the published prefix when best-effort repair fails. - Add encrypted optional trace channels, replacement reads, durable deletion tombstones, and deadline-driven local/external expiry cleanup independently of heartbeat scheduling. Stream historical source and remote verification. Propagate worker cancellation through trace open, conditional-write probing, upload, restore and reads. Fence deletion even before the first object head exists; abort and drain owned captures. - Retry transient storage errors, distinguish 409 from failed preconditions, and backpressure bounded log admission. Track interrupted trace imports explicitly so ordinary local deletion stays independent of S3. - Automatically migrate retained history through the existing delivery coordinator. Process one log and one trace per batch. Retry unresolved history with backoff and stop scans after completion. Keep the inventory/import command as optional diagnosis and repair. Verify source and remote bytes before switching references. Verify finalized native size and digest before setting its export cursor. Require ordered source coverage when completeness metadata is missing. Preserve original trace expiry. Block active, missing, corrupt, and unproven sources. - Preserve identity and run-secret redaction in live and recovered native logs. Register runtime log redaction secrets once through the existing encrypted registry. Keep agent private keys in their existing owner. - Add storage, migration, retention, UTF-8, and route-privacy coverage, plus operating documentation and qualification tooling. - Add no schema, payload table, per-record SQL, production dependency, or lockfile change. ## Verification - Final fixes at `b3a44c898e` passed all 116 selected startup, retention, attribution and cancellation controls. The disabled-scheduler cleanup and concurrent-repair defects reproduced red before the fixes. A timed-out repair still prevents later storage reads. - The merged source passed 124 storage and real-Postgres Cloud configuration tests. These include automatic history migration, existing environment/file vault keys, source-directory removal, five real-SDK stalled-request cancellation cases, shared capability-probe cancellation and multi-chunk trace ordering. Saved Cloud S3 settings work after the legacy config file is gone. - Workspace typecheck and full build passed at the merged parent `19f702d780`. Server typecheck and build passed again at `b3a44c898e`. - Actual app acceptance: finish a process-agent run through the normal API, stage its retained local-file input, then restart. Automatic migration reports one migrated item and zero blockers. Remove the original web home and restart at `b3a44c898e` with an empty home, the existing S3 profile and the existing vault key file. The normal log API preserves all five producer lines and exactly 788 bytes, with SHA-256 `74d9ae469da28bfe89b9b50a0e132aec24fe9e6d686496ed5e4ffa6167151036`. No log-specific storage settings are present. - Actual expiry acceptance: with heartbeat scheduling disabled, a trace remains unexpired after startup and later reaches its fixture deadline. The worker marks the row deleted and tombstones both S3 channel heads. The retained run log stays byte-identical. The process fixture emits no provider protocol frames, so nonempty encrypted payloads are qualified separately through the real SDK round trips. - Isolation tests use identical run identities in two stack buckets. Cleanup in one existing prefix leaves another prefix, another company and product files intact. Read-only Cloud source inspection confirms a bucket and bucket-scoped credentials per stack. Four existing Cloud storage environment-contract tests passed. No Cloud provisioning changed and no new live vendor permission probe was performed. - Earlier qualification passed 1,014 affected storage/native tests and 27 privacy-route tests with isolated Docker Postgres. An abrupt process test commits 1,000 records, receives receipts, dies by SIGKILL and loses its directory; another process reads every byte and continues. The real Rust Runner experiment acknowledges 32 records while the export cursor is zero, then continues the same Runner PID after controller loss. All 64 records export once with exactly 64 existing control rows. Repeated snapshot/Stop commands completed in 162/81 ms. - Emulator workload: 1,000 burst records used two batch PUTs. Eight steady streams produced 240 records with 104 conditional PUTs and 72 GETs over 6.9 seconds. These are synthetic operation counts, not fleet sizing or provider prices. - Failure evidence is retained. Compact native events over 64 KiB, missing file-key support, disabled-scheduler retention and repair failure handling all reproduced before their fixes. Fixture repairs addressed cold module setup, localhost/IPC permissions, the S3 bucket-name limit and a mode-0700 crash-test directory. Full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after host PostgreSQL semaphore exhaustion; affected suites used isolated Docker databases instead. Native package library symlinks were restored with the package's standard hydration helper. - The `19f702d780` browser session-recovery case timed out while saving a task title. All eight browser shards passed on `b3a44c898e`, including that case, with no UI behavior or assertion change. Fresh-head CI passed at `b3a44c898e`: 55 successful checks, three skipped checks and one neutral check. The branch is conflict-free. - Map and module-boundary checks passed. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. Reproduce the opt-in storage suites with `PAPERCLIP_LOG_TEST_S3_ENDPOINT` and a dedicated `PAPERCLIP_RUN_EVIDENCE_MIGRATION_DATABASE_URL` ending in `_test`. See `doc/run-evidence-storage.md` for operating limits, automatic migration, optional diagnostics and rollout qualification. ## Risks - Keep the existing per-stack bucket, prefix and vault key stable across replacements. Relocating that storage is a separate whole-instance operation. - This release automatically changes new log storage for existing S3-configured instances. Local-disk instances remain local. Canonical native source replay is qualified with a deterministic real Runner; actual remote execution and production-provider qualification remain rollout gates. Generic server-only diagnostics and optional raw trace tails without a surviving source can be incomplete after a crash. This does not establish full zero-downtime deployment. - Before deploying this release, qualify the actual S3 provider. It must enforce conditional writes and pass read, version, deletion, workload, and latency qualification. A capability probe rejects providers which ignore preconditions. Moto is emulator evidence only. - Dirty output is bounded and unconfirmed until S3 publication. Storage failure leaves persistence incomplete while task results and usage can settle. - Trace expiry is not yet represented by Cloud's external wake contract. Outstanding trace deadlines conservatively block sleep. - Automatic history copying requires the original source volume. Keep it until all retained resources pass verified import and clean-filesystem reads. Stop old binaries from creating new local-file runs. Missing or corrupt history remains blocked and visible in server logs. Rollback requires a compatible reader against the same external state. Ordinary object deletion does not erase retained historical object versions or backups. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser verification. test(evals): add a fixed TestOps AWS chat feature route (#18322)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and inspect their saved work. > - Chat feature evaluations test a real request against saved tasks, audit records, links and reload behavior. > - The current suite has Codex and OpenCode cells but no dedicated runnable DeepSeek 1017 backlog plan in TestOps. > - TestOps must select the real case before the workflow can access a model key. > - This PR adds one fixed, default-branch AWS route for native OpenCode and DeepSeek 1017. > - The route keeps original evidence private and sends only a verified result and approved screenshots to TestOps. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Product E2E evaluation definitions and GitHub Actions delivery. **Problem or motivation** A dedicated TestOps plan cannot run the existing backlog chat journey with native OpenCode. A result must prove saved work and cleanup rather than report that a model call completed. **Proposed solution** Add one OpenCode backlog cell and one fixed public workflow. TestOps selection validation runs in a token-isolated job before builds or inference. The workflow retains private originals and reports the bound outcome to the selected TestOps case. **Alternatives considered** A private-repository wrapper would need a new cross-repository GitHub write credential. The new route uses the existing TestOps GitHub integration instead. Existing manual candidate approval paths remain separate. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing feature evaluation infrastructure. It changes no production feature, global runtime default or model default. Current main #18319 supplies the v2 grader, delegation queue accounting and final screenshot capture; these improvements are preserved. Related product work: #16814 and #17126 concern backlog handling. This PR changes neither product implementation and does not claim those changes are required. ## What Changed - Add exactly one native OpenCode backlog cell with DeepSeek 1017 under the separate `runner-opencode-deepseek-1017` profile. Preserve all four existing Codex and production OpenCode cells and their models. - Add a default-branch-only workflow with fixed evaluation, zero-result registration and one plan-launch modes. Require GitHub actor checks and authenticated singleton selection before inference. - Add a separate shipped-main evidence authority. Reuse the existing strict private storage, scanners, inventories and scoped AWS sessions. - Bind sanitized results, generated JUnit and producer-approved screenshots to the exact source, run, attempt and case. Keep failed grades and cleanup failures failed. - Add TestOps API, CLI and result adapters with pure controls and normal unit-test wiring. Keep the reporting token out of the evaluated process. - Verify the current server case result and attachment metadata after upload, without masking an earlier failed upload or evaluation. - Apply only the existing reviewed lock correction, verify unchanged tracked dependency inputs and bind the lock receipt across the compiled-output handoff before frozen installation. - Bind the initial administrator launch to one approved workflow run number and live GitHub source/actor metadata before TestOps authentication. Use bounded REST case reconciliation and only the reviewed existing GitHub integration. - Make two existing CI tests observe their intended state deterministically: a fake clock for copy-feedback lifetime and a completed-pass barrier for retry-cancellation batches. Production behavior and the original assertions remain unchanged. The two test-only fixes are intentionally included because their observation boundaries blocked this delivery’s required normal CI. They preserve every original assertion and change no production behavior. The original failed runs remain recorded, and the exact causes of those observations remain unknown. ## Verification - 157 focused profile, catalog, oracle, filesystem admission, export, private-path and workflow controls passed on the current-main composition. The existing stock OpenCode models and the new exact DeepSeek 1017 selection are checked separately. - 44 API, CLI, filesystem and post-upload readback controls passed, including foreign selection, changed hashes, unsafe files, failed outcomes, expired readback and no-resend behavior. - The new exact private session and trace layout controls produced four genuine parent failures and pass with the selected-path extension. The frozen 244-case candidate approval registry remains unchanged. - The lock guard has seven filesystem controls plus seven existing canonical-owner controls. The unrestricted old workflow failed its actual policy calibration; the corrected frozen-install route passed. - Eval-owning TypeScript checks, workflow lint and Git whitespace checks passed. The separate UI test correction was checked with the focused jsdom unit suite. The server test barrier has pure wrapper and real scheduler controls; its DB-backed route was not run locally. No additional local typecheck/build was run for these test-only changes. - Full native builds, provider execution, app/database behavior and TestOps registration are reserved for GitHub Actions/AWS. They have not run locally. - The initial normal CI run failed the new-workflow policy allowlist and a heartbeat scheduling assertion. The policy fix has an actual parent red/current green control and rejects five unsafe route variants. Heartbeat source is unchanged and its failure cause remains unknown. The original run is retained. - The launch-fence actual caller fails against the published parent and passes the five own-run contradiction controls before authentication. - The prior `a5aa359d` normal CI completed successfully. The complete `f9e1f289` run passed all leaf jobs except an existing copy-feedback UI assertion, plus its dependent verification gate. The four owning UI files were unchanged from the earlier passing head and actual tested merge; the exact scheduling cause remains unknown. - The correction changes only that test to actual React `act` and a scoped fake clock. All eight component tests pass; early-hide and never-clear source variants each fail the intended lifetime assertion. Production clipboard/card behavior is unchanged. - The `2f27f3fc` run passed the corrected UI shard and every leaf job except the existing retry-cancellation intermediate-count assertion, plus its dependent verification gate. The seven relevant owners match the earlier passing run and historical source comparison; the exact CI scheduling cause remains unknown. - The test-only barrier observes a persisted completed worker pass before asserting the unchanged 20-item cap and two-company fairness, then releases it for the original 29-item drain and 180-second idle check. Two extracted-wrapper controls and three actual scheduler controls pass. The real DB-backed test awaits AWS qualification. - On `836e80ac`, both repaired test shards passed in AWS. The original attempt retained a separate E2E cleanup HTTP 500 from a PostgreSQL lock timeout and one runner shutdown. No production repair or precise contention/shutdown cause is claimed. - Exactly one targeted retry of E2E shard 3 and its aggregate gate passed in attempt 2; exactly one recovery of the interrupted server shard and its verification gate passed in attempt 3. Other passed jobs were carried forward. The final normal run is successful. No whole-workflow retry or evaluation/model retry was launched. - Both literal required checks (`ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`) are successful on the exact final source `836e80ac`. Greptile is 5/5 and no review threads remain open. Actual TestOps registration and the OpenCode/DeepSeek feature result remain unqualified until their separate executions. ## Risks - Actual zero-result registration, tenant API shapes and public-repository dispatch access must be checked before the first evaluation. Missing or ambiguous metadata stops the route. - The real OpenCode/DeepSeek backlog result and Allure outcome remain unqualified until that run. No passing result is seeded. - One human query, one accounted work run, 120-second turn, 420-second attempt, 300-second settled-state bound and zero retries remain unchanged. Setup usage is outside work accounting and stays unknown. - The reporting token was configured through the separately reviewed protected credential bootstrap. It is unavailable to AWS evaluation jobs. - Metadata reconciliation is capped at ten pages, 1,000 cases and four parallel detail reads. Missing or inconsistent metadata stops before inference. The initial administrator launch counter must be created once after registration; it does not restrict normal TestOps Run actions. - Existing manual workflows, historical evaluation grades and candidate approval records remain unchanged. The original CI failures are preserved; the test corrections do not establish retrospective causes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6.1 Sol (`gpt-6.1-sol`) with reasoning and tool use. The runtime did not expose its context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(evals): protect Antigravity setup and two-turn delivery (#18190)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their work. > - A provider integration must work through ordinary agent setup and task controls. > - The recorded Antigravity walkthrough exposed setup, delivery, and continuation failures. > - A repeatable check must verify real work and retain failed attempts. > - This pull request converts all 47 recorded steps into one fixed Product E2E journey. > - Maintainers can rerun the case and inspect independent delivery, cleanup, and accounting evidence. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on merged #18187, #18188, and #18189, and consumes the shared repairs from merged #18230 and the equivalent manual-policy declaration from #18222. Refs #18214 for the CI task wrapper. Refs #12503 and #14938 for related legacy adapter work. **Agent or provider** Google Antigravity native Runner with a saved managed Google subscription and the exact Low model. **Why this adapter is useful** A user must be able to add an agent, connect its account, and receive real task results across a follow-up. Picker visibility alone is insufficient. **How the agent is invoked** A fixed Playwright driver uses ordinary product controls. The agent runs through native ACP. Independent checks use public APIs, actual downloads, owned process observations, and native lifetime fences. ## What Changed - Register one explicit-only case: `antigravity-agent-journey.runner-antigravity.local.saved-subscription-two-turn`. - Map all 47 source steps and declare saved-account prerequisites, finite limits, and same-host macOS ARM64 scope. - Create an agent through the ordinary picker, connect the saved account, select Low, run Test, and wait for readiness. Save an instruction marker, deliver a file, and update it through an ordinary follow-up. - Require each run's visible completed file activity, exact downloaded bytes, committed Done result, same tagged conversation, distinct physical owner birth, released lease, and free native fences. Verify reload persistence. - Stop failed native runs that still own a retry. Replay an existing Stop with its durable request identity and wait for the matching audited acknowledgement. A terminal reservation without a native intent remains unconfirmed. - Keep private evidence in the existing result, report, dashboard, and accounting pipeline. Retain the paused QA agent and financial history while preserving the shared account and budget policies. - Journal only the ordinary wizard's future ID, target, name, intended harness and expected creator before forwarding its POST unchanged. Bind the response and interrupted recovery to exact identity reads; a pending 404 stays unconfirmed. - Serialize private resource snapshots through temporary-file fsync, atomic rename and directory fsync. Abort forwarding on storage failure and preserve legacy receipts. If later journal or diagnostic writes fail, retain the primary error, always close the browser, and attempt the ordinary failed report. - Add production-component browser controls and harden task-menu readiness, alias selection, scroll restoration, failure packaging, and one hermetic auth-test budget. - Wait for the existing GitHub recovery fixture to register its next deadline before asserting the original range; preserve its nested-transaction and zero-request checks. In the decision-expiry fixture, verify the exact saved expiry separately from the earlier global wake of another queue. ## Verification - Fresh registered acceptance passed on eval source `9060f3cd01b7c3445ecdf703d72e9cf30fe42b59` and merged serving product `61bd4ac6919c2309f766a25e62273b074cee3261`. It completed ordinary setup and two turns with native `.5` and `gemini-3.8-flash-low`. All 16 matchers, 14 checkpoints, and cleanup passed in **165,613 ms**. Actual downloads were **61 bytes** and **119 bytes**. Both turns passed their own run-bound browser activity checks and reload persistence. - Independent read-back confirms Done, a paused retained agent, the same connected saved default account, and no active owned run. Both accepted results have the same full tagged conversation and distinct primary process births. All 21 observed processes retired; both leases released and all three native fences were free after each turn. The selected `.5` checkpoints also showed equal agent/backend session IDs; this is an observed case requirement, not a generic ACP invariant. - Receipts report 339,273 input tokens, 7,224 output tokens, and 202,846 cached input tokens. Subscription prices are unavailable. Billing coverage remains incomplete, not free. - The normal report CLI passed. All 310 files from nine original attempts and two separate recoveries retained their hashes. The twelve current screenshots are byte-identical, and 194 local report links are contained and valid. The eight earlier reports were copied without regeneration. - Delivery source `1bf4fb04df04710b82844b3c9355767f46b5f68f` branches from `d3f2a60e795fc60d64c8b19d1eed4d48657d5492` and merges cleanly with current master `1d571de5f9f886d66e520800baec8fc2f67d0948`. All 41 prior `c8b332` authored file blobs remain identical; the 42nd path is the decision-expiry fixture contract correction. Creation ownership, the strict durable writer, and the ordinary successful workflow remain unchanged. Of 43 measured file blobs, 30 remain identical. The Antigravity oracle, artifact, billing and report gates and its suite-specific validation block remain unchanged. The actual retained agent matches its original creator; its original request `setupId` was not captured and is not reconstructed. - Later master changes include model-visible workspace guidance and rejected-terminal-report handling. Their bounded source assessment is separate: the first actual finish failed, then a same-turn replacement was accepted and committed. Later read-only results match both original native-result hashes, and the complete event catalogs have no `session.failed` event. Master #18228 also expands detection of explicit JSON file requests. The measured create/update-and-attach `.txt` task already required publication under both parsers; the publication validation gate itself is unchanged. Master #18240 changes remote workspace cache staging and adds an OpenCode index refresh. The selected local lane returns before those paths. Master #18213 adds optional numeric turn timing and trace boundaries. Its selected Antigravity model, text, IDs, result and retirement semantics remain unchanged in the bounded source review. Local diagnostic rows and awaits can change event ordinals and latency; the oracle checks relative semantic order. Collector coverage and latency improvement remain outside this proof. This does not claim that the whole current runtime is byte-identical to serving `61bd`, or relabel the measured result as a new run. - The adopted upstream cache controls passed 3/3 with pinned real Turbo. Forced work disables local and remote reads and writes; ordinary work reuses local results. The original genuine-pnpm/Turbo controls remain historical to `9060`'s earlier write-only policy. The duplicate cache patch is superseded by #18230. Its qualification-only pnpm addition is removed because the adopted upstream controls do not require it. - The E2E typecheck, map checks and 277-control replay are carried from the unchanged eval source paths. That replay passed, including the 183 Antigravity controls, catalog/connection checks and the separate product-journey validator. The carried creation controls include 91 config/recovery cases. The final launcher suite passed 19/19, including five real campaign finalization fault cases; the report suite passed 7/7. These final checks did not rerun the earlier 277-control group. The canonical production-component browser spec passed in 27.4 s under its unchanged 60 s limit before the replay. Four paused-composer cases and the product base's build/typecheck plus 376 focused regressions were verified earlier. - The shipped wizard and actual API client cover persistence before forwarding, lost response JSON, foreign/malformed requests, wrong response identity/creator and cleanup-error preservation. Real filesystem controls failed 5/5 before the writer repair and passed 5/5 afterward, preserving the old journal on partial-write, temporary-file sync and rename faults. Three persistent-sync campaign controls failed before the finalization repair and passed afterward. All five final campaign fault cases preserve the primary failure, cleanup failure, usage and failed report while attempting browser closure. The strict journal still blocks the next mutation. These are provider-free ownership controls; the Google task proof remains the original `9060` → `61bd` acceptance. - The decision restart check passed in the local 20-case fixture run. A current-source real-PostgreSQL rollback control reproduced the exact 90,000 ms earlier global wake: the old equality rejected it, while the exact durable expiry and new future-wake bound passed. The original 60 s open-state, exact-timestamp, continuation and quiet checks remain. The broader local run was **FAILED: 19 passed / 1 failed**, with a 15 s timeout and a 30 s cleanup timeout in an unchanged timestamp-pagination case. That case passed in canonical `c8b332` CI; the local timeout cause remains inconclusive. An extra local server typecheck failed against stale cached Runner declarations; it did not check this excluded test file. Both limits remain recorded for fresh canonical CI. - A broader local GitHub recovery group passed 21/22. Its unchanged pagination case observed an unexpected config request; the log does not establish the cause. That result remains retained, and fresh current-head CI is the final broader gate. - Exact delivery-head CI completed with 55 successes, two skips, and one optional neutral review. Required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, build, typecheck, and Runner checks passed. Fresh Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved threads. Optional Paperclip is neutral 4/5; its carried recommendations are dispositioned against the public Stop contract and selected live identity evidence. Seven earlier converted attempts retain their failed grades and partial evidence. Historical Paid8 and its later read-only per-run UI observation remain separate from the fresh acceptance above. Unknown prices and the older partial startup accounting remain explicit. Full lineage and raw evidence remain private in the normal report bundle. ## Risks - This case requires an authorized saved personal default Google subscription and finite operator candidate admission. It does not test fresh OAuth or establish global qualification. - The physical observer supports a same-host loopback macOS ARM64 target. Cloud, Linux, and other models remain outside this case. - A known-cost stop cannot cap missing prices or in-flight subscription charges. Existing operator policies remain unchanged. - Raw account/native identities stay private. Missing retirement proof keeps resources retained. The selected cleanup mode does not test agent purge. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6). The host did not expose the exact model revision or context limit. The model used tools for code edits, tests, browser automation, and review. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(e2e): reuse core journeys across deployment targets (#18222)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their work. > - Product E2E tests verify work through the browser and public APIs. > - The classic matrix already tests several common task stories. > - Its older stories depend on local fixture setup and workspace access. > - Deployment tests need the same story checks with a separate target adapter. > - This PR shares those checks and adds five explicit journey selections. > - A deployment pass still requires evidence from that deployment. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Product E2E journey reuse across managed instances and deployed Cloud instances. **Current behavior** The deployed-target catalog covers task creation, assignment, Ask, and fresh onboarding. Plan revision and Everyday stories run through the classic fixture driver. Several story steps assume a local workspace. **Proposed behavior** Add explicit Plan revision, artifact revision, protected-action approval and decline, Skill Studio, and Stop/redirect journeys. Share the main browser sequences and content checks with the classic driver. Let target adapters provide authentication, native agents, a reachable service fixture, and owned cleanup. **Reason and benefit** A local pass cannot verify the deployed application. Shared story code lets a deployed target exercise the same behavior without copying an entire test or starting a replacement server. **Breaking changes** No product API or default matrix selection changes. Passed deployment results must satisfy the declared story checks and work-run count. Unsupported target capabilities fail before a story runs. Related public work: #17262 and #18098. Upstream prerequisite: #18230. ## What Changed - Extract shared Plan, artifact download/oracle, protected service, Skill Studio, and Stop/redirect helpers. Keep classic callers on those helpers. - Add five explicit paid journey selections with owned-task observations and native company, agent, model, and environment checks. - Include classic prompts, delivery/decision code, and the decline grader in the source-definition hash. Keep classic transient-read retries and reject deployment binding failures immediately. Match cookie directory boundaries in sensitive fixture requests. - Require complete story checks and expected run receipts before retaining a passing result. Keep failed evidence and private downloads. - Add a secret-safe request method for deployment fixture credentials. Add the missing declaration for the existing manual evidence policy module so the E2E project can typecheck. - Document target responsibilities and promotion after a real deployment pass. This source catalog does not enroll candidates in a daily plan. ## Verification - E2E TypeScript check: passed, including the review follow-up. - Review follow-up: 30 tests passed across four files, covering transient Plan reads, immediate binding rejection, cookie-path scope, agent receipts, and artifact evidence. Stop now waits for a saved, still-active native turn before the browser click and retains its startup events. Counterexamples reject claimed-but-unstarted, already-completed, interrupted, and non-native work. Shared observation and API helpers also enter the definition fingerprint. Cancellation snapshots are captured before lease cleanup. A direct terminal-boundary assertion rejects native work after cancellation even if it is already in the first snapshot; five cleanup-window counterexamples are covered. The Stop-output regression first failed for both native `item.delta` and `item.completed`; the fixed check detects both while allowing accounting-only updates. A report-catalog test first failed because the sandbox denied the tsx child IPC pipe (`listen EPERM`); the unchanged test passed outside the sandbox. - Affected journey, catalog, API, service fixture, and delivery checks: 313 tests passed across 19 files. - Workspace build: passed after rebase. - Workspace typecheck: passed. The default repository run was attempted. Repeated embedded PostgreSQL startup failures prevented local database coverage; it was stopped without claiming a full pass. Linux CI must supply that coverage. - Broad E2E support run: 4,793 passed, 23 failed, 2 skipped. Failures include existing stale image/Pi assertions and process/startup timeouts under host load. The affected tests pass separately. This is not a claim that the broad suite is green. - Upstream CI prerequisites: this branch is rebased on the merged #18230 repair. The earlier conflicting Turbo flags no longer apply. The shell-hook fix is also supplied by that upstream change. Linux shell-hook investigation: 19 focused tests and adapter TypeScript passed. The exact staged-config sequence reproduced CI's 500 in a pinned Node 24 Linux container. Node's default stdin socket at shell level zero selects Bash remote-shell startup and reads `.bashrc` instead of `BASH_ENV`. Ignored stdin and a nested shell each produce 1000. The fixture now ignores stdin; the production hook and 1000 assertion are unchanged. See [Bash startup rules](https://www.gnu.org/software/bash/manual/html_node/Bash-Startup-Files). - GitHub CI on the earlier head passed most suites but failed two browser tests (a fixture cleanup lock timeout and a fixture run staying queued) plus the shell-hook assertion. The lock-timeout case received one retry, which was cancelled by a later source push and does not establish recovery. These failures remain part of the verification record. - Real Cloud qualification: the private target adapter is reviewed and merged. These candidates must pass there before daily-plan promotion. Current source review: Greptile 5/5 and Paperclip Review 5/5 on `a9df1d6e8d880710fce39b87e689e07e1c8e6edc`, with zero unresolved review threads. The full [GitHub CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40974946081) passed on that exact head, including both required aggregate checks. ## Risks Shared helper changes affect classic callers. The independent ZIP oracle and visible delivery requirements remain in place. Stop requires native acknowledgement, terminal event evidence, resource cleanup, and no later original-turn activity. The managed local target still lacks paid-agent fixtures and reports these journeys as unsupported. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, terminal use, and code execution.
