perf(runs): bound history and reduce repeated context reads (#16286)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps operators manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Run history supplies recent execution records to the board and API clients. > - The list repeats eight reads of a large stored JSON context. > - A caller can also omit the limit and read the complete history. > - This pull request expands context fields once and bounds every list read. > - The benefit is lower database cost and bounded redaction work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #958. Related community reports: #13962 and #10631. This is an independent implementation. It does not use their commits or code. It covers the history bounds reported in both. Process memory monitoring from #10631 is outside this change. **What happened?** The run-history query repeatedly extracts fields from large context JSON. Requests without a limit also load every historical run before authorization and redaction. Accumulated staging query statistics showed 271 ms for summary history and another 58 ms for its redaction lookup. **What did you expect to happen?** Normal reads must use a bounded recent history. Context projection must preserve the existing values and privacy behavior with less repeated database work. **Steps to reproduce** Run the disposable benchmark below against the baseline revision. It creates 1,400 synthetic runs with 192 KiB contexts. It compares the exact service SQL and every returned column for both summary and full history. ## What Changed - Expand context fields with one lateral record projection. Preserve non-object legacy contexts and the first-class issue binding. - Enforce a 200-row default and a 1,000-row maximum in the route and service. - Apply the default in the shared UI client, including both agent detail implementations. - Preserve response arrays, authorization, result projection and secret redaction. - Fetch older linked runs by ID in both agent pages. Check company and agent scope, navigation races and visible retry errors. - Update OpenAPI, data-path documentation and capability maps. - Add real PostgreSQL and HTTP regressions plus a reproducible benchmark. ## Verification - Local benchmark: summary history 37.72 ms to 19.34 ms; full history 37.84 ms to 19.01 ms. All 200 complete positional rows match in each comparison. These are synthetic local SQL timings, excluding HTTP and redaction. - History, route, privacy and redaction suites: 160 server tests passed across six files. Twenty-two UI API, selection, run-panel and log-visibility tests passed. Both agent-page variants render an older linked run with an empty history page on desktop and mobile. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - Map validation and `git diff --check` passed. - All current-head CI and security checks passed, including the full general and serialized suites, browser shards, Runner verification and build. Greptile reviewed the exact commit at 5/5 with no remaining findings. - The full local sweep began before the final compatibility fixes. It was stopped after the final commits passed complete CI. The focused local suites listed above passed on the final code. Before interruption, the broader local sweep passed 31,743 tests across the general server, UI and several package groups, with no reported failures. The full local command is not claimed as a completed pass. ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/heartbeat/run-state.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-list.test.ts src/__tests__/agent-live-run-routes.test.ts src/__tests__/run-secret-redaction.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-privacy-routes.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/api/heartbeats.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-run-history.ts --baseline-ref=1e731520bb ``` ## Risks - Clients that relied on an unbounded array now receive 200 rows by default. Explicit limits allow up to 1,000. This change does not add pagination. - Legacy context conversion must stay identical. Real database regressions cover null, array, scalar, nested values and native issue precedence. - No schema migration or persistent cache is introduced. Redaction and access checks remain active. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, shell tools and local code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific backend model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test: remove repeated setup and strengthen regression proof (#16022)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tests protect company boundaries, approvals, durable tasks, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat large database fixtures and render frames. > - Some tests repeat stronger proof or pass when the behavior they describe is broken. > - This pull request shares exact setup, removes proven duplicate cases and repairs weak observations. > - It preserves distinct security, lifecycle, concurrency and user-facing contracts. > - The benefit is 5,027 fewer test lines and stronger regression checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15978. This continues the merged test-audit cleanup in [PR #15978](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15978), which removed 11,976 test/support lines. The savings in this pull request are additional. Related open work: [PR #13460](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13460) changes legacy OAuth parent/version lock ordering. This pull request retains those production paths and the existing lock-order test. Its secrets changes compact fixtures and repair the two AWS wrapper exclusion observations. Scoped title searches found no open duplicate audit or fixture-consolidation PR and no matching audit issue. The problem is described here using the enhancement template. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression value of the existing server, UI, CLI, shared and wiki-plugin test suites. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting test code. Two UI modules also lose unused test inspection exports. **Current behavior** Owner tests repeat database rows, service inputs, HTTP setup and render frames. Some cases repeat stronger assertions. Two AWS lock tests record only cleanup events, so an AWS provider write can happen inside the held lock without failing those observations. Several other negative tests accept or do not observe the wrong result. Worktree fixtures also use a temporary path alias that conflicts with the existing canonical-path checks on macOS. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers that preserve exact inputs, fresh allocations, callbacks, query order and await positions. Remove only cases with named stronger keepers. Tighten negative assertions and observe actual AWS provider entry while a confirmed lock holder remains parked. Resolve temporary fixture roots to their canonical paths. **Reason and benefit** Remove 5,027 net test lines and 15 redundant registered executions. Remove 11 lines of unused UI inspection exports. Keep every distinct company, actor, approval, credential, persistence, stale-write and concurrency contract. No wall-time speedup is claimed for setup compaction. **Breaking changes** None for application behavior, APIs or stored data. The removed exports expose private UI test state and have no remaining callers. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated runtime, workspace, portability, route, tool-access, policy, gateway and state-service fixtures. - Share repeated UI render frames and CLI/wiki-plugin setup while retaining the original actions and expected results. - Remove 15 repeated case executions only where the audit records an exact stronger keeper. - Repair weak HTTP/UI negative assertions and two AWS account-home lock observations. Keep the existing durable results and cleanup behavior. - Remove the unused `__inflightGetCount` and `__secondTickInternals` inspection exports. Keep observable request coalescing and ticker lifecycle checks. - Canonicalize temporary worktree fixture paths without weakening production path checks. - Record the owner decisions, savings, independent preservation reviews and validation in [the dated audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-rounds.md) and [the compact control evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-controls.json). ## Verification - Complete owner and retained-sibling baselines passed before each audit cutover. Independent reviewers checked the full original tests, actual helper bodies, exact inputs, receipt provenance, async order, fresh allocations and case registrations. - All 14 UI/route/wiki mutations failed at their intended assertions: ten UI/API/ticker controls, one route control and three wiki persistence/receipt controls. Each mutated production source was restored to its exact original bytes. - Both old AWS lock tests passed with their respective AWS-only lock bypass. Both repaired tests failed at the intended assertions with the same bypasses. These give 16 intended failures and two passing weak controls across 18 executions. Each source was restored exactly. - Final complete state-owner/sibling run: 329/329 passed at code revision `64370831ebe191e5ce092f85f79b6fb661df7e16`. - Final `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build`: passed at the same code revision. - Delivery head `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa` includes the evidence commit and master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded`. All 27 audited test files and both application files match the locally verified code revision byte-for-byte. Current-head CI validates the integrated branch, including the incoming master changes. - All eight production-owner SHA guards for the 16 deliberate failing mutation controls still match the integrated delivery checkout. The mutation receipts therefore apply to those current owners. - Full default `pnpm test:run`: **failed** with exit 1 at frozen code revision `64370831ebe191e5ce092f85f79b6fb661df7e16`; HEAD and tracked source bytes remained unchanged. The first general-server group reported 878 passing files, four failing files and six skipped files; 17,846 passing cases, 24 failing cases and 105 skipped cases. Later groups did not run. Failures were `http-log-redaction` (socket hangup), `public-mcp` (initial 15-second timeout followed by hosted token “Refresh before subscribing” failures), `remove-test-home` (macOS `ENOTEMPTY` where permission errors were expected, plus cleanup failure), and `workspace-git-snapshot-streaming` (300-second timeout). All four failing test files and the relevant cleanup/MCP production owners are unchanged by this audit. Full local success is not claimed. - Focused complete-owner diagnosis at the same frozen revision: 149/152 passed, three failed, zero skipped. `public-mcp` passed 82/82 and `http-log-redaction` passed 66/66 unchanged. The two `remove-test-home` cases reproduced macOS `ENOTEMPTY` against an expected `EACCES`/`EPERM` contract; the 32 MiB workspace snapshot case reproduced its existing 300,000 ms timeout. HEAD and tracked files stayed clean. Exact blob comparison confirmed all four test files and the relevant cleanup/MCP owners match both inspected master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and the frozen local revision. The three remaining local failures are unresolved; no timeout, retry or assertion was weakened. - Current-head CI: [workflow 38299262149](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38299262149) has passed runner selection and created all downstream test/typecheck/build gates; those gates are queued, with no failures reported. Greptile completed successfully at `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa` with [5/5 and zero comments](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16022#issuecomment-6131457592). All review threads are resolved or absent. This pull request will remain open after verification. Reviewers can reproduce the required workspace checks: ```sh pnpm -r typecheck pnpm check:token-gates pnpm test:run pnpm build ``` Browser suites were not run. Their sources and user journeys are unchanged by this audit. ## Risks - A fixture helper can hide a specialized input or change object freshness. Full-program expansion checks and independent reviews preserve the exact old inputs and execution order. - Removing duplicate proof can remove a distinct contract by mistake. The audit records the keeper for each deletion; all distinct security and lifecycle cases remain. - Concurrency checks can miss progress during a fixed delay. The AWS repairs record actual provider entry, confirm holder entry, use measured entry windows, require exact final event order and drain both operations in `finally`. - The full local default run failed. Focused diagnosis reproduced two macOS cleanup failures and one existing snapshot timeout in unchanged owners; these remain unresolved. Current-head CI is pending. No test deadline, retry policy, skip or CI shard was weakened to obtain a pass. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-6, reasoning, repository inspection, code execution and delegated audit/review. The runtime does not expose the exact served model identifier or context-window size; those values are unavailable and are not inferred from the model catalog. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): upload files directly in task artifacts (#15964)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage agent work and retain its context. > - Task documents and attachments keep that context with the task. > - The Artifacts panel showed output but could not accept a new file. > - Uploading through a message can require resuming a paused task. > - Existing document and attachment APIs can save files directly. > - This PR adds direct uploads and a drop target to the task panel. > - People can add context while keeping work paused and unassigned. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The task Artifacts panel and its existing document and attachment APIs. **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React board UI. No server, schema, or API changes. **Current behavior** The Artifacts panel cannot upload a file. It also excludes files uploaded by people. The message composer can require a task to resume before it submits attachments. **Proposed behavior** Use the upload icon or drop files anywhere in the open Artifacts panel. The target includes the header, padding, and existing cards. Files save directly to the task without a message or a pause change. **Reason and benefit** People can prepare a handoff on a paused, unassigned task without starting agent work. Markdown becomes a task document. Other supported files use attachment storage. **Breaking changes** Files from people now appear in Artifacts alongside agent output. Promoted attachments still appear once. A repeated Markdown filename creates a separate document instead of replacing an existing revision. Existing APIs and limits stay the same. **Additional context** Related upload API work: Refs #7472 and Refs #7248. This PR adds the missing task-panel entry point. ROADMAP.md lists Artifacts and Work Products as available; this is a scoped UI improvement. ## What Changed - Add an upload icon with no visible label or background. - Accept file drops across the full task panel, including the desktop portal header and mobile tabs. - Show per-file progress and inline Retry and Dismiss actions. - Import Markdown under a new document key and retain existing revisions. - Include files from people in Artifacts and dedupe promoted attachments. - Add component and task-journey stories for empty, populated, loading, error, mobile, and drag-over states. - Add real browser tests for persistence, pause preservation, duplicate document names, full-panel drops, and partial failure recovery. ## Verification - Five Playwright tests passed against an isolated instance started by the source `test-drive` command. The document API, attachment storage, pause holds, downloads, and task UI were real. Only the explicit upload failure was injected. - The browser tests verified desktop and mobile uploads, document reading, persistence after reload, no task comments or runs, header drops, preservation of original and hidden internal documents, reserved filename handling, and upload retry. - 163 focused UI tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - The full Vitest suite is running after repair of an exhausted local PostgreSQL shared-memory pool. The initial run failed to initialize PostgreSQL. Six unattached segments had no living creator or last-user process; removing them restored free slots. - CI and the current-head Greptile review are pending. ## Risks - Artifacts now includes user files, so existing tasks can show more cards. - Uploads retain the server's authorization, file-type, size, and revision checks. No migration is needed. - Binary attachment uploads use the existing API. A transport failure with an unknown save outcome can retain the existing API's retry ambiguity. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime snapshot ID and context-window size were not exposed to this session. The model used repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, and browser automation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add company fast-response acknowledgements (#15748)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Human messages start agent work through task, chat, and external-channel intake. > - Agent startup can delay the first visible response. > - A small direct model call can acknowledge the request while normal work starts. > - This response must remain separate from evidence that the agent answered or completed work. > - This pull request adds optional company-wide fast responses with durable receipts, access checks, and cost accounting. > - Users receive prompt acknowledgement without changing the agent execution path. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: database, shared contracts, server orchestration, connections, and UI. **Problem or motivation** Users can wait for an agent to start before they receive a contextual response. Generic progress messages do not confirm what the user asked. An acknowledgement must not falsely complete work or satisfy an unanswered turn. **Proposed solution** Add a disabled-by-default experimental fast-response model using an existing shared API connection. Generate one short acknowledgement for each accepted human turn. Use the existing agent identity and external publication outboxes. Retain platform provenance and account for the inference independently. **Alternatives considered** Running the acknowledgement through the agent runtime adds startup latency. Restricting implementation to OpenRouter leaves other existing API connections unsupported. This change supports all existing API connections and uses OpenRouter for live verification. **Roadmap alignment** This extends existing agent communication and connection settings. ROADMAP.md and open pull requests were checked. No duplicate fast-response implementation was found. The maintainer supplied the feature plan directly. ## What Changed - Add Experimental fast responses to instance settings. Keep the feature off by default. Enforce the flag at intake, dispatch, and publication. - Move Decision model and Fast response setup to company Settings → Connections when the experiment is enabled. Place Connections below Environments. Separate the model sections with clear headings and a divider. Keep Decision model in General when the experiment is off. Route Costs setup links to the available settings page. - Make the acknowledgement prompt a multiline template string. Ask for a brief, positive response in the user’s language. - Add settings, connection/model selection, sponsorship, fixed-sample testing, and Costs history. - Add a Vercel AI SDK text service for existing native, routed, Bedrock, and local API connections. - Add durable per-turn requests, a bounded worker, a three-second admission deadline, and one inference attempt. - Integrate task creation, task and agent chat, steering, queued follow-ups, experimental board chat, shared chat intake, and email. - Preserve receipt provenance and exclude receipts from completion, recovery, interaction resolution, and agent wakeups. - Recheck authorization, source validity, real replies, budgets, and destination binding before publication. Preserve accounting for suppressed or uncertain outcomes. - Add provider contracts, database race tests, channel outbox tests, UI tests, Stories, and documentation. Keep decision-model execution unchanged. ## Verification - Local `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and UI token gates pass after rebase. The UI typecheck and build also pass after the final navigation fixes. All 37 focused navigation tests pass. The first full local `pnpm test:run` invocation reported seven chat failures. All seven passed in isolated reruns after fixture updates and host cleanup. This invocation was stopped after the full final-head CI suite passed. - Initial local database tests hit macOS shared-memory exhaustion. A diagnostic confirmed `shmget: No space left on device` with the system limit of 32 IDs. Three abandoned, unattached PostgreSQL IPC headers were reclaimed. The isolated rerun passed all 31 fast-response and channel tests. The two additional Slack regression cases also passed in a separate rerun. No active database was stopped. - UI token gates pass. Provider contract tests cover all supported API connection types. Fast-response tests cover uniqueness, authorization, budgets, expiry, cancellation, restart, real-reply races, and the experimental flag. - The test drive verified that disabling the experiment hides Connections and redirects its direct URL. Enabling it restores the saved OpenRouter setup. After restart on the final commit, the OpenRouter settings sample returned “Sure, I’ll take care of fixing the border around the settings panel.” in 428 ms. It used 260 input and 31 output tokens and recorded $0.0000576 in reported cost. - Earlier live OpenRouter verification produced a receipt in 1.013 seconds for a new task. The real agent then supplied its substantive answer. A separate settings test took 1.34 seconds, used 246 input and 23 output tokens, and recorded $0.0000361. - Live Slack verification on final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` passed for a fresh initial task and a follow-up in a disposable bot DM. The initial acknowledgement appeared 2.405 seconds after the Slack message and 1.413 seconds after durable acceptance; the follow-up appeared in 2.322 seconds and 1.160 seconds respectively. The recorded generation/settlement durations were 898 ms and 697 ms. The initial call used 291 input / 39 output tokens and cost $0.00006705; the follow-up used 281 / 47 and cost $0.00007035. - The Slack acknowledgements retained the assigned agent identity and `origin: fast_response`, source-turn references, and no fabricated run ID. A status snapshot after the initial receipt showed the task still `in_progress` with its real execution run. The agent then read the CSV fixture and correctly reported two ready items, two blockers, and their owners. Both replies stayed in the originating DM, and no duplicate generic working message followed the delivered contextual acknowledgements. The `new` command started a fresh conversation session without generating a fast response. - An earlier eligible Slack turn generated a response but suppressed publication. Its reported cost was retained, generic progress remained, and the real agent completed the requested result. This is recorded separately from the two delivered acknowledgements; the history did not expose a precise suppression reason. - Slack verification used real signed provider events, the existing intake/publication paths, and a user-approved temporary webhook-only HTTPS tunnel. Subscriptions were limited to direct-message events. The test bot was paused and the tunnel stopped afterward. Live channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified; their mocked tests cover intake, destination binding, publication, and continued underlying work. - Greptile reviewed final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` at 5/5. Both new review findings are fixed and all threads are resolved. [Final-head CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38060015730) passed. This includes grouped server/chat/workspace tests, serialized suites, runner checks, browser journeys, typecheck, build, release registry, policy, and the canary dry run. - Manual check: enable Experimental fast responses. Open company Settings → Connections. Select a shared API connection and model. Save and use Test response. Submit a task message and confirm that its receipt does not complete the task. ## Risks - The migration adds receipt and configuration tables plus accounting references. It uses idempotent statements and follows the current migration sequence. - A slow provider, authorization change, or real-agent reply can suppress an acknowledgement. Existing progress feedback remains available. - Unknown provider billing retains a reservation until reconciliation. External deliveries with uncertain outcomes must not be blindly repeated. - Live Slack initial-task and follow-up DM journeys pass. Live Slack channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified. The PR remains a draft and records these gaps. Final-head repository CI and automated review pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser interaction. The runtime does not expose an exact model snapshot ID or context-window size; these are not asserted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use. > - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository access. > - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that connection hard to finish. > - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve creation and repository access. > - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials, signature verification, and task admission. > - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway, then completes setup in the stack. > - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat connector opt-in does not control them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub replies. **Current behavior** Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment. **Proposed behavior** Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent. Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit. **Breaking changes** GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters. Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual existing-App recovery remain supported. Companion gateway: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard was found. ## What Changed - Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog, routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue running when the UI setting is off. - Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts, known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App recovery. - Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage, installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and outbound local delivery. - Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than creating another App route. - Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot. - Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking Board messages or questions. - Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions, numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs. - Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor. - Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest 100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery, authorization, UI, and browser regressions. - Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar, feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port. ## Verification - Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it passed without changing the code. - Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the attachment suite. - Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview, and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI shard. - GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests, delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and company boundaries. - Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable qualification database was removed after testing. - Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot execution authority. ## Risks - Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and tenant binding. - Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations that already applied the earlier draft migration number. - A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed review. Runtime checks remain separate. - Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools remain opt-in. - Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and agent. - Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without granting new installation access. - A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text; the governed outbox retains its evidence. Deleted or replaced response comments are not recreated through a personal credential fallback. - GitHub logo upload remains an optional human action in GitHub App settings. Runtime provisioning, delegated setup, screenshot publication, and production push delivery remain deferred. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with tool use and code execution. The exact runtime model identifier and context size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; complete test matrix is checked in CI) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve conversation retries through execution cleanup (#15463)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Recovery schedules bounded retries after a provider disconnects. > - A stopped run can still hold its environment lease while cleanup runs. > - Retrying before that lease is released cancels the new run before it starts and spends another retry. > - Restoring the task can also send the worker repair instructions from an already resolved recovery action. > - This pull request preserves the waiting retry and removes settled recovery instructions from later wakes. > - The task can continue after cleanup without an operator repairing the same incident again. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A legacy conversation run disconnected while it was doing ordinary work. Its environment cleanup took longer than the retry delay. Two retries were cancelled before dispatch with `execution_reconciliation_required`. Those cancellations exhausted the failure budget. After an operator restored the task, the wake still told the original worker to repair the runtime and hand the task back to itself. **Expected behavior** Cleanup waits preserve the pending attempt. The same retry can continue after ownership is released, subject to all current gates. Once a recovery action is resolved or cancelled, subsequent task wakes omit its repair instructions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Fail a legacy conversation run while its environment lease remains in `pending_cleanup`. 2. Schedule a bounded retry and run promotion before cleanup releases that lease. 3. Repeat the scheduler sweep. Before this fix, retries promote and then cancel without starting. 4. Resolve a stranded-task recovery action and build the restored task wake with that action ID. Before this fix, the wake still includes the settled repair instructions. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced with database regressions against `ceabc3bc880` on master. Related: #15019 restores a skipped assignment handoff after lease release. #15235 filters stale handoff evidence in the recovery sweep. This change preserves an existing scheduled conversation retry and corrects restored wake content. It does not create a new handoff wake. ## What Changed - Keep an unstarted legacy conversation retry on the same durable row while prior execution ownership remains active. Recheck after 30 seconds without increasing retry accounting. - Return a queued retry to scheduled state if it encounters that hold at the claim gate. Retain its issue claim and publish the status change. - Record one local lifecycle diagnostic per blocking run. Remove that wait marker on promotion. - Include recovery action metadata only while the referenced action is active or escalated. - Return an explicit `waiting` response and the saved schedule when Retry now meets cleanup. Show the wait inline without a false success or disabled button. - Add database, rendered-prompt, route, and UI regressions. Document the execution and run-log contracts. ## Verification - Five cleanup and restored-wake regressions fail against the original production code. The Retry now route and UI regressions also fail before their correction. - Related retry, dispatch, stale-queue, and recovery suites: 321 tests pass across seven files. All ten focused cleanup/restored-wake cases pass after rebase. The final dispatch adjustment passes all 46 adapter tests. - Retry now routes and affected UI suites: all 46 tests pass. The tests cover repeated clicks, the saved schedule, unchanged accounting, promotion after release, and no false success or error state. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was started and then stopped after the final commit passed all GitHub CI test shards. No complete local full-suite result is claimed; CI supplies the complete test result for the final commit. - Final head `6f1058a332c039e33c4f002b296d20a5554e760e`: all 55 GitHub checks are green or intentionally skipped. Apex review is 5/5 after two reviews, with no unresolved threads. The PR has no merge conflicts. ## Risks The wait applies only to unstarted legacy conversation retries. Native runs and non-conversation execution keep their existing recovery rules. Cleanup must actually release ownership before execution can resume. The wait does not fix a cleanup service that never finishes. Promotion and dispatch still enforce cancellation, reassignment, pause, budget, and reconciliation gates. No schema change is required. The Retry now response adds a `waiting` outcome; the shared contract and all three UI controls handle it. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with repository analysis, tool use, and local code execution. The runtime does not expose the precise serving model ID or context window. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; complete final-head test coverage in CI) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): make pull request review waits visible (#15375)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people supervise agent work and review its outputs. > - A task can wait for a human to review a pull request while an agent schedules checks. > - The PR work product and detected external links use separate display paths. > - A private PR can disappear from the useful sidebar view when its provider lookup fails. > - The monitor countdown says when the next check runs but omits the saved review request. > - This change shows the saved PR and requested review in the task's existing surfaces. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task kept checking whether a private GitHub PR had merged. Its work product requested board review, but the Properties sidebar used detected external objects instead. The PR URL was stored only in metadata, which the PR refresh path did not read. The composer showed a generic monitor countdown with no PR link or review action. **Expected behavior** Show saved PR links even if provider access fails. During a GitHub monitor wait, make outstanding review requests visible with the next check time and a status-check action. Stop requesting review when a PR merges or closes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Register a PR work product with `reviewState: needs_board_review` and its URL in `metadata.url`. 2. Schedule an external-service monitor for GitHub. 3. Open the task with external-object lookup unavailable or unable to access the private repository. 4. Inspect Properties and the composer wait strip. Related work: #14469 added rich artifact cards. #8759 addresses attention on monitored task blockers. This change uses the existing work products and monitor action; it adds no blocker or approval mechanism. ## What Changed - Show saved PRs in Properties, including metadata-only links, independent of external-object availability. - Deduplicate equivalent GitHub PR URLs while preserving the saved navigation link, and put explicit review requests first. - Keep provider status and freshness on the combined PR row; keep private PR links usable when lookup fails. - Show the saved PR review request above the composer and in the existing monitor banner during a GitHub monitor wait. - Label the existing monitor action `Check status` and show check failures inline. - Suppress review prompts for merged, closed, or archived PRs even if their review flag is stale. - Refresh PR metadata using `metadata.url` and the existing `repository` alias. - Share saved work-product reads across the thread, Properties, and Artifacts. Refresh GitHub in a separate query and enrich only matching PR versions. - Start a fresh saved-row request on live invalidation so late provider responses cannot hide new artifacts or changed review requests. - Cover stalled GitHub lookups in both panels so refresh latency cannot hide saved work. - Scope monitor-check mutation state to the task so failures and late responses do not leak across navigation. - Refresh GitHub status when the displayed run finishes, including when saved PR rows have not changed. - Clarify that PR review and external release handoffs need a saved human-input interaction with an agent assigned for continuation; a flag, monitor, or handoff comment alone does not create that card. ## Verification - 386 tests pass across eleven affected UI and server suites on `184c7d8746`. Regressions cover saved links, provider status, cold-cache loading, panel reopening, monitor errors during navigation, and live updates during provider refresh. - Three live-update regressions and two run-completion regressions fail before their fixes and pass afterward. These tests use the real API client's GET coalescing and abort handling. - Full repository typecheck and build passed on the merged parent `1a49112dd2`. The latest UI changes pass UI typecheck and token gates; CI also verifies the latest build. Capability contract/inventory checks pass. - Storybook build and browser checks passed before the query race fix. Browser checks cover desktop and 390px mobile review waits, plus video, mixed-file, and empty artifact galleries after background refresh. - The earlier full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped under disk pressure. It reported failures outside the changed suites; an isolated skill-cache run reproduced three existing macOS permission failures. The full local suite was not rerun for this follow-up. - Latest-head CI passes on `184c7d8746`, including the browser shards and canary dry run. Apex is 5/5 with no actionable findings and no unresolved threads. All eight reported findings are addressed. ## Risks - This uses saved PR review state. When GitHub access fails, the saved state can remain stale until the agent updates it. The link remains visible and the status check remains available. - `Check status` wakes the existing monitor owner. It does not merge a PR, accept an approval, or mark the task done. - No schema, permissions, or scheduler behavior changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code editing, and test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — 277 affected tests - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(access): give Operators default company editing permissions (#15377)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Human company members receive permission grants from their role preset. > - Human invitations use the Operator role by default. > - The old Operator preset only granted task assignment, so ordinary members could not edit agents or manage connections. > - This pull request gives Operators company editing and audit access while keeping join approval and member-permission management separate. > - Members can configure their agents and accounts without an Owner role. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The default permission grants for human Operators and the invitation role description. **Subsystem affected** server/ permission presets and invitation authorization, plus ui/ invitation and tool access gates. **Current behavior** Operators receive only `tasks:assign` as an explicit default grant. Agent configuration and managed account setup fail their permission checks. **Proposed behavior** Operators receive agent creation/configuration, skills, environments, invitations, task assignment, pipelines, connections, tool management/use, and audit grants. The preset excludes `joins:approve` and `users:manage_permissions`. Operators can invite Operators and Viewers. Inviting a role with either excluded power requires that power, so invitations cannot bypass the restriction. **Reason and benefit** Ordinary company members can edit company work and connect accounts through the existing routes. **Breaking changes** The Operator preset grants more permissions. The existing startup and Cloud sign-in seeding paths can insert these missing grants for existing Operators. They retain custom grant scopes. Explicit invitation grants still take precedence. Inviting Admins now requires join approval; inviting Owners also requires member-permission management. This PR adds no migration or new backfill path. Related: #5945 describes missing role grants in another membership entry point. This PR changes the preset and does not change that endpoint. ## What Changed - Expanded the Operator preset to 14 company editing, invitation, tool, and audit grants. - Kept join approval and member-permission management out of the preset. - Required those powers when an invitation's selected human role includes them, preventing Operators from delegating the excluded powers through Owner/Admin invitations. - Updated the invitation role copy and the product specifications. - Allowed active Operators (including legacy Member roles) through the invite shortcut and advanced tool/profile UI gates. Kept inactive memberships, Viewers, and other companies excluded; API grants remain authoritative. - Added tests for the default Operator grants, both excluded actions, agent editing, company boundaries, and invitation role authorization. - Simplified adapter-route test imports so authorization errors and the error handler use one module graph; retained the upstream mock-initialization fix. - Kept Owner/Admin/Viewer presets and explicit invitation grants unchanged. Added no EE code or database migration. ## Verification - Permission and invitation tests: 38 passed across access service, invitation defaults, and invitation creation routes. - UI access tests: 61 passed across invitation shortcuts, Operator tool/profile access, and invitation UI. - Adapter route tests: 15 passed after resolving the upstream test setup conflict. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed on the final branch. - The initial local `pnpm test:run` general-server batch reported three tool-access failures and eight upload-helper timeouts. Both complete affected suites passed in isolation on the final branch: 403 tests. The initial full local run was not green. - Both complete tool-access and adapter route suites also passed on an untouched snapshot of base `88ff98b83`: 387 tests. The earlier tool failures did not reproduce there. - [All CI gates passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37527422346) for `068be153b9c2a064f2aaccc0627fdf458e73747e`, including the previously failing serialized adapter lane, general tests, E2E, typecheck, build, Runner checks, and canary dry run. - Greptile scored that exact commit 5/5. Superagent passed. Both invitation review threads are resolved. ## Risks - Operators gain broad company editing and invitation access by design. - Existing default seeding can add the new missing grants during startup or Cloud sign-in. It does not replace existing scopes. - Company boundaries and the two excluded permission checks still apply. - An Admin without member-permission management can no longer invite an Owner. Operators retain invitation access for Operator/Viewer roles and agent-only invites. - This PR changes company permissions. Cloud workspace invitation rules remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. Used repository inspection, code editing, shell execution, and test tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting a merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix browser polling for unsaved agent chats (#15298)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent Chat uses the shared task surface and browser panel. > - An unsaved chat has a temporary ID instead of a stored task UUID. > - The browser poll sent that ID to a PostgreSQL UUID query and returned a server error. > - This pull request waits for a saved task and validates task IDs before the query. > - Saved chats keep their browser tools and access checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14331. That report describes the same draft-ID problem in email requests. This change covers the browser routes; it does not change email behavior. Opening an unsaved Agent Chat sends `chat:<agent-id>` to `/issues/:issueId/browsers` every three seconds. PostgreSQL rejects this as a task UUID. The draft is only a UI view model. The first send or upload creates its stored task. ## What Changed - Disable browser polling for unsaved chat IDs. Resume polling when the chat has a task UUID. - Return the existing task-not-found response for malformed task IDs before database access. Keep board authentication first and company and credential checks unchanged. - Test all six task browser routes, draft-to-saved polling, normal tasks, saved chats, and denied access. Keep canonical UUID v4, v7, and nil values queryable. - Document the draft and saved-chat browser contract. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` passed with pnpm 9.15.4 and Node 24.21.0. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/browser-use-route-scope.test.ts server/src/__tests__/browser-use-connection.test.ts` passed all 35 tests. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/hooks/useTaskBrowsers.test.ts` passed all 5 tests. - Independent review passed 14 hook and route tests plus both real task and saved-chat authorization cases. - `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check` passed. - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - Full Linux CI passed on `dafff44a32`: 53 successful checks and two intentional Storybook skips. This includes all general and serialized test groups, UI and browser tests, typecheck, build, and the canary dry run. No CI retries were needed. - The full local `TMPDIR=/private/tmp pnpm test:run` started but did not complete. It was stopped after full Linux CI passed. Before the stop, three company-skills cache cases failed on macOS. A focused rerun reproduced all three as `EACCES` while renaming immutable cache staging directories. The test, company-skills service, and runtime cache files are byte-identical to the baseline previously reproduced on `e99854249c` for #15291. Other local groups were not reached; the full Linux CI run provides aggregate coverage. - Greptile scored the exact head `dafff44a32` 5/5 with no findings or unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Malformed task IDs now return 404 instead of reaching PostgreSQL and returning 500. The route does not map draft IDs to agents or tasks. - No schema, browser provider, task creation, or authorization policy changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and independent agent review. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; full local run limitations are reported above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stabilize mobile task reading and document navigation (#15228)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People read tasks and send instructions from phones as well as desktop browsers. > - The mobile footer let page text show through its labels, and small text fields made Safari zoom on focus. > - Small scroll changes made the footer switch direction, and its changing page padding moved the conversation. > - Task pages also showed comments before question cards and run history arrived, so the composer and reading position moved again. > - Document links also used native navigation, which reset the reading position or reloaded a task through its UUID URL. Desktop tabs were crowded in the mobile drawer. > - This pull request keeps navigation steady, opens documents in the mounted task, and gives mobile readers a full-height panel with a vertical tab selector. > - The benefit is a stable task view and smoother scrolling on mobile. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The mobile footer was translucent. Safari zoomed when a person focused a small text field. The footer switched abruptly while scrolling. A large task could show saved comments, then move the page again when a question card or run history arrived. In a local test with delayed responses, a late question moved the mobile composer by about 374 pixels. Opening a plan from the feed could reset the view or reload the task through a UUID link. The mobile document drawer left part of the feed exposed above small desktop tab controls. **Expected behavior** The footer has an opaque surface and moves smoothly after deliberate scrolling. Text fields do not cause automatic focus zoom. A task shows its initial conversation and composer together at the final scroll position. Background refreshes keep the existing conversation visible. Document links open in the mounted task with its existing cache and reading position. Mobile documents fill the viewport, show a clear close button, and offer a vertical list of open tabs. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with many long comments and a pending question in iOS Safari. 2. Delay its interactions, activity, and runs responses by different amounts. 3. Reload the page and watch the conversation and composer move as each response arrives. 4. Scroll down and back up, including small direction changes and edge bounce. 5. Focus the task composer, search field, and new-task title and description. 6. Open a plan or another task document from the feed, including a link that uses the task UUID. Close the panel and check the reading position. 7. Open several documents on a phone. Switch tabs and close both active and inactive tabs. **Paperclip version or commit** Developed from `1c07b5903` and rebased onto `59015846a`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Tested in an isolated local test drive with iOS 26.5 Simulator Safari and Chrome. A temporary local proxy delayed independent responses for the layout test. These earlier fixes added task scroll anchors and skipped transcript waits for scheduled retries. - Refs #6550. Earlier mobile board polish. - Refs #9467. This related open PR changes list and generic tab reflow. The task-pane selector uses a separate component. ## What Changed - Give the mobile footer an opaque semantic surface. - Set a base-size floor for editable text on touch devices to prevent Safari focus zoom. Preserve larger title text. - Share mobile scroll tracking between both layouts. Accumulate scroll distance, ignore edge bounce and changed document bounds, and update once per frame. - Use shared motion tokens for the footer and composer. Keep page padding stable and honor reduced motion. - Wait for the initial question cards, attachments, work products, activity, runtime selection, plan, and relevant transcript history before the first reveal. Skip scheduled retries and older runs outside the initial comment window. - Bound the first reveal to 15 seconds. A stalled supporting request leaves saved conversation and the composer accessible with an explicit loading notice. - Keep concealed mobile history from stretching the document. Keep the composer mounted but concealed until the same reveal. Keep both visible during later refreshes. - Route first and repeated same-task document clicks in place. Recognize UUID and identifier links. Preserve the thread history entry and feed position. Keep modifier clicks, downloads, external links, and classic document behavior. - Give the mobile task panel the full viewport and safe-area padding. Use a visible X and 44-pixel touch controls. Replace the horizontal tab strip with a vertical selector that wraps titles and supports keyboard focus. - Add four interactive Storybook states for a few tabs, long names, many tabs, and the last tab. Reuse the production selector and tab controller. - Add navigation and tab regressions, update first-reveal regressions, and document the behavior in `DESIGN.md`. ## Verification - 392 tests passed across the seven focused task-loading, scroll, mobile-navigation, layout, and composer suites. After review fixes, all 339 tests across the four affected suites passed, including stalled-loading fallback on mobile and desktop and the motion-token catalog. - All 442 focused document, tab, task-thread, and scroll tests pass. The final click-propagation cleanup also passes all 136 task-detail tests. UI typecheck, UI production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - All four cases in `artifact-tab-arrival.spec.ts` and `text-attachment-tabs.spec.ts` pass locally, covering desktop and mobile selection, composer focus, document rendering, and downloads of the original bytes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passed. Open the mobile tab stories under `Prototypes/Task detail/Mobile tabs`. - A local diagnostic proxy measured cached plan content at about 250 ms after the first click. The HTML load count and task request count did not change. Feed scroll stayed at the same position. First, repeated, and UUID document links were tested at phone and desktop widths. Task-reference links close their preview before the document reader opens. - In Chrome at desktop and phone widths, the delayed-response task showed one complete reveal. The late question no longer moved an already visible composer. - In iOS Simulator Safari, verified the large-task reload, opaque footer, navigation hide/reveal, and search/new-task/composer focus without automatic zoom. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. The updated UI also passes typecheck, production build, and token gates. - All 54 checks pass on the final commit `bf5c9914e61833e7cc8794a69d72cf8c7057b952` (two additional checks are intentionally skipped). Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5, and all review threads are resolved. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted but stopped after server-fixture failures. Embedded PostgreSQL startup failure reproduced in an isolated native-interaction fixture after five startup attempts. The broad run also reported a rapid Slack callback ordering test failure. These server paths are unchanged by this PR, and their CI shards pass on the latest head. The full local suite is not claimed as passing. - A localhost proxy stalled the activity response for 30 seconds. Chrome revealed the available conversation after the 15-second deadline at both desktop and phone widths, kept the composer accessible, and cleared the loading notice when the response arrived. ## Risks Slow initial history requests can delay the first conversation reveal by up to 15 seconds. If that deadline expires, late data can change the available conversation while a loading notice remains visible. The reveal waits only for runs in the initial comment window, and later refreshes do not conceal an existing conversation. The larger editable text can change line wrapping on phones. Mobile navigation and composer motion use shared tokens and respect reduced-motion settings. Mobile tab selection changes the control layout. Document links retain URL history while sharing the task reading position; other tasks and external links keep their normal navigation behavior. I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This is a fix for existing UI behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. The agent used reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and Chrome and iOS Simulator testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(chat): keep dismissed task questions in the feed (#15229)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents ask users questions in task chats and Agent Chat. > - Agent Chat keeps unanswered questions as compact entries in the feed. > - Regular task chats still show a pending composer badge after dismissal. > - A page reload can also open a dismissed question form again. > - This pull request applies the same feed behavior to both chat types and saves dismissal per person and task. > - Users can continue the chat and return to the original question later. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Dismissing a question in a regular task chat leaves a pending composer badge. The question can return after a page reload. The earlier feed behavior only applied to Agent Chat. **Expected behavior** A dismissed question stays in the feed. Its form and pending badge leave the composer. Reload preserves dismissal. Opening the feed entry restores the original question and draft answer. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a regular task chat with a pending question. 2. Select an option, then dismiss the form. 3. Reload the page. Check that the composer stays clear. 4. Open the question in the feed. Check that the draft is restored. 5. Submit the answer. Check that the answered receipt appears. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on master at `a386a599983519eb1d399f8b770bfccdb2a74762`. **Deployment mode** Browser UI in local and authenticated instances. This change does not depend on the agent adapter. Related work: Refs #14613, which added the Agent Chat feed behavior. Refs #9141, which validates real answers on the server. Refs #11434, which tracks comment-driven changes to interaction state. This PR changes question presentation only. ## What Changed - Show compact unanswered question entries in regular task chats. - Exclude durable questions from composer pending counts and navigation. - Save dismissal in local storage per person and task. Merge the latest saved IDs so dismissals from another tab survive reload. A new question can still open its form. - Keep the original question pending and answerable. Keep approval and permission controls. - Run the question-history regressions in both chat modes. Add reload, new-question, user/task scope, and stale-tab coverage. - Share the real-component Storybook fixture. Add a regular task test drive and an interactive dismissal/answer scenario. - Update the planning-mode browser test to check a dismissed question in the feed after reload and on mobile. - Update the design rules, implementation spec, and preview instructions. ## Verification - 329 focused thread, composer, and interaction-card tests pass. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. The UI typecheck also passes after the review fix. - `pnpm build` passes for the full repository. - UI build, Storybook build, and token gates pass. The UI build and token gates were rerun after the review fix. - Greptile gives final commit `98f71f221` a 5/5 score. The current-head check passes, and there are no unresolved review threads. - All 56 current-head checks are terminal: 54 pass and two conditional Storybook jobs skip. The CI run includes the full test shards, build, typecheck, browser tests, aggregate verification gate, and package canary. - The stale-tab regression fails in both chat modes before the review fix and passes after it. - `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/planning-mode-visual-verification.spec.ts` passes against a throwaway local server. It checks dismissal, reload, task navigation, and desktop/mobile planning controls. - The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` attempt was stopped after the full CI test suites passed. It did not complete locally. - Manual browser test: select Green, dismiss, reload, reopen, submit the saved answer, and inspect the answered receipt. Also send a new message while the unanswered question remains in the feed. The test drive uses real UI components with fixture response callbacks. - To repeat the browser test, run `pnpm storybook`. Open **Chat & Comments → Task Chat Unanswered Questions → Test Drive**. ## Risks - Dismissal is a browser-local preference. It does not sync to another browser or device. Clearing local storage removes it. - When local storage is unavailable, dismissal lasts for the mounted thread only. - Unanswered questions can accumulate in the feed. They stay pending until answered or resolved through the existing API. - No database migration, API change, or change to approval permissions. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with xhigh reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and browser control. The context-window size is not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: Chat leads the left nav, agent work beside chats, and a Combined Inbox + Task List flag (#15100)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The left nav is the main way people move between tasks, the inbox, and Agent Chat > - The nav has separate Inbox and Tasks rows that show overlapping work, and Chat is one row among many > - The side panel beside a chat shows the conversation's own artifacts, not the work the agent did > - People want Chat to be easy to find, and they want one place for their task views > - This pull request moves Chat to the top of Work, shows the agent's tasks and artifacts beside each chat, and adds an experimental flag that folds Inbox into Tasks > - The benefit is a shorter nav and a chat view that shows what the agent is working on. Both changes stay off until an operator enables them ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14706 (the secondary Agent Chat navigation this change builds on) Refs #14848 (reopen the last visited agent chat) **Subsystem affected** UI navigation (left nav, mobile tab bar), Agent Chat side panel, task list and inbox, and the company artifacts API. **Problem or motivation** Inbox and Tasks are two nav rows for overlapping work. Chat sits in the top group with no clear home. The chat rail lists only agents you already talked to, so you cannot see your other teammates there. The side panel beside a chat shows only the conversation's own artifacts. It does not show the tasks and files the agent made. **Proposed solution** With Agent Chat on, Chat leads the Work section and the rail lists every eligible agent. The chat side panel opens on the agent's tasks as cards, and the agent's artifacts are available from +. A new experimental flag, Combined Inbox + Task List, makes Inbox a set of views inside Tasks. **Alternatives considered** Rebuilding the inbox inside the task list. Instead, `/issues` hosts the existing Inbox component for inbox views and the existing task list for status views, so all inbox behaviour stays the same. **Roadmap alignment** Agent Chat (ROADMAP.md, "Agent Chat (including CEO Chat)"). All changes are behind experimental flags that are off by default. ## What Changed - **Agent Chat nav (streamlined shell):** Chat is the first row of Work, not a top-group row. Workspaces leaves the nav while Agent Chat is on. The mobile tab bar is Home · Chat · + · Tasks · Agents. The legacy shell keeps master's top-group Chat row. - **Chat rail:** `AgentConversationsSidebar` lists every eligible agent. The open chat is first, then conversations by recent activity, then the rest of the roster alphabetically. Terminated agents and agents you left are omitted unless you have history with them. The picker still marks only real conversations as "Open chat". - **Chat side panel:** a new default Tasks tab shows one card per task the agent created, was assigned, commented on, or acted on, newest first. It has the task list's filter popover and a sort control. **+ → Artifacts** shows the agent's artifacts as cards. Cards open in a new tab. Agent Chat off keeps the old Artifacts tab. - **Artifacts API:** `GET /api/companies/:companyId/artifacts` accepts `agentId`. The filter applies to documents, work products, and attachments by the agent each result is attributed to. The shared validator and the UI client carry the new parameter, and the OpenAPI entry picks it up from the shared schema. - **Combined Inbox + Task List flag (`enableCombinedInboxTasks`, off by default):** new card in Settings > Experimental. The Inbox row goes away and its badge moves to Tasks. A Views menu on `/issues` covers Mine, Unread, Blocked, Recent, Everything, All, Active, Backlog, and Done. Bare `/issues` opens the last-used view (default Mine). Links that carry `assignee`, `workspace`, `participantAgentId`, or `q` open All so the filter is kept. `/inbox/*` and `/issues/{all,active,backlog,done,recent}` redirect to the matching view. `/inbox/requests` stays its own page. - **Task detail breadcrumb:** the view key now decides the source, so quick-archive still works after a reload from an inbox view. - **Docs:** `doc/PRODUCT.md` and `doc/SPEC.md` describe the chat rail, the chat side panel, and the new flag. ## Verification - `cd ui && npx vitest run --no-file-parallelism src/components/chat src/components/task-side-panel/TaskSidePanel.test.tsx src/components/AgentConversationsSidebar.test.tsx src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx src/components/SidebarCompanyMenu.test.tsx src/components/Layout.test.tsx src/pages/AgentChats.test.tsx src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx src/lib/task-views.test.ts src/lib/issueDetailBreadcrumb.test.ts src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx src/pages/Issues.test.tsx src/App.test.tsx src/App.activity-routing.test.tsx src/components/MobileBottomNav.test.tsx src/components/CommandPalette.test.tsx`: 20 files, 356 tests pass. - `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/company-artifacts-service.test.ts`: 13/13 pass, including the new agent-filter test across all three artifact sources. - The new rail test fails against the unmodified rail. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: all gates clean. - Manual: enable Agent Chat in Settings > Experimental. Open Chat. The rail lists all agents. Open a chat. The side panel shows the agent's tasks. Use **+ → Artifacts** to see the agent's artifacts. Then enable Combined Inbox + Task List. The Inbox row goes away, and Tasks shows a Views menu. - Snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated. See `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`, "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". ## Risks - With both flags off, the app behaves like master. The only exception is the API: it accepts a new optional query parameter. - With Agent Chat on, the rail can list many agents in a large company. It uses the agent list the app already loads, and search filters it. - The Tasks panel reads at most 200 recently updated tasks per agent and says so when it reaches the limit. The Artifacts panel reads at most 500 of the agent's artifacts. - Combined Inbox + Task List changes what bare `/issues` opens for people who enable it. Deep links with a task filter still open All. ## Model Used - Claude (Anthropic), model ID `claude-opus-5-5`, through Claude Code with tool use (shell, file edit, test runs). fix(ui): use latest issue runtime callbacks (#14863)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and their work. > - The issue page uses an external-store adapter for comments. > - The adapter must keep one identity during an unrelated render. > - The adapter must also call the newest send and cancel functions. > - Passive effects update those functions too late for a synchronous runtime call. > - This pull request updates the function refs during render and adds a regression test. > - The benefit is a stable comment thread with no stale comment action. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #3678 **What happened?** The issue comment runtime can call the prior send function after a render. The callback refs do not update until passive effects run. **Expected behavior** The stable runtime adapter must call the newest function as soon as the render supplies it. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Render the issue runtime with one send function. 2. Render it again with a new send function and the same thread data. 3. Call the stable adapter before passive effects run. 4. Observe that the prior send function runs. **Paperclip version or commit** `6395cae072` **Deployment mode** Local development from source. **Agent adapter(s) involved** This is a core UI bug. It is not adapter-specific. ## What Changed - Update the latest send and cancel refs during render. - Keep the external-store adapter stable across callback-only renders. - Add a test for a runtime callback before passive effects run. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/hooks/usePaperclipIssueRuntime.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Low risk. The change only updates two refs earlier in the same render. - The adapter identity and its data dependencies do not change. > This bug fix does not add or overlap with a roadmap feature. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex with GPT-5. The exact deployed model ID and context window are not exposed. Reasoning, tool use, and local code execution were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): make AgentMail a default connection with inline setup (#14772)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents access to external services. > - AgentMail needs both a saved key and an inbox assigned to the agent. > - Chat requests offered a setup link instead of an inline card and could treat a saved key as complete. > - Inbox setup also hid address conflicts behind a generic server error and a separate review step. > - This pull request makes AgentMail a default connection, adds the inline card, reduces setup to two steps, and shows conflicts beside the address. > - Shared native dropdown styles also give every caret a consistent inset. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** AgentMail requests in chat did not show a usable inline connection card. Manual setup required extra screens, ignored saved account keys, and could trap new-address setup in a locked inbox dropdown. Agent selectors omitted the avatar from the selected value. A taken address could produce an HTTP 403 from AgentMail and appear as an internal server error. Native dropdown arrows also touched the right edge of their fields. **Expected behavior** Make AgentMail available as a default connection. Ask for the API key inline, with a direct link to its provider page. Default human access to the company and agent access to the requesting agent. Resume the agent only after an assigned inbox is active. Manual setup should ask for an agent and email address, then finish. Address checks should run as the user types. Taken addresses should show clickable alternatives. A domain dropdown beside the name should prefer a verified custom domain. Setup should suggest authorized saved AgentMail keys and show agent avatars in the picker and selected value. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to connect AgentMail when it has no assigned inbox. 2. Check that an inline API-key card appears and links to the provider's API-key page. 3. Open AgentMail setup, choose an agent, and request an address that is already taken. 4. Correct the inline error, refresh, and finish setup with the same request ID. 5. Inspect native dropdown carets in light, dark, disabled, and right-to-left states. Uses the bounded provider-error parser merged in #14768. Related work: #13256 introduced AgentMail; #14725 expanded connection search. ## What Changed - Stop recurring email queries for tasks that have no email thread. Share the query between the thread provider and activity view. Keep email-task updates and invalidation-based discovery. - Make AgentMail available without the experimental chat setting. Keep the catalog, setup and management routes, agent Channels tab, task email feed, receiving worker, and agent tools available by default. Other experimental chat providers stay gated. - Make the email address and copy icon a single clickable action with the shared Copied! confirmation. Add View inbox linking directly to the matching AgentMail console inbox, with the address encoded as one URL path segment. - Reorganize inbox Settings around the copyable email address, usage instructions, and receiving status. Move reconnect credentials into a disclosure and separate the Disconnect action. Add production Settings stories for active, paused, unassigned-address, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect states. Show repair controls when the inbox has an error. Keep usage instructions tied to an active inbox with an address. - Add AgentMail channel intents and an inline key field with the direct API-key URL. - Keep setup and retry state tied to the interaction. Require an active inbox for completion. Preserve company and agent access checks. - Reduce manual setup to agent selection and email selection. Put the domain dropdown beside the address and default to a verified custom domain. Preserve explicit choices across reloads. Keep receiving settings under Advanced options. - Check the initial address and edits after a 350 ms pause. Abort superseded requests and ignore stale responses. Show clickable suggestions and retain known creation conflicts across reloads. - Add a company-scoped, manager-only address check using the saved credential. Search the visible inbox list instead of fetching an uncreated inbox: live AgentMail retains negative lookups that can break subsequent access-key creation. Unlisted addresses remain unknown; creation is authoritative. - Suggest labeled saved AgentMail keys in both manual setup and the inline card. Filter by company, provider, active credential, and current-user grants on the server. Prefer an account key and preserve the selected key or an explicit new-key choice across refresh. Use verified scope metadata and bounded concurrent checks for legacy keys. Never return secret values. - Catch an inbox-only key before the email step. Allow its existing inbox only after an explicit choice. Recover old locked drafts at the key picker. Save the replacement key before retiring an empty draft, then use a new setup URL so refresh preserves the switched account; stop if cleanup fails. Preserve already allocated addresses and their original accounts. - Use the shared AgentSelect in email setup. Show the canonical agent avatar in each option and the selected value, including other consumers of the shared component. Add regression coverage for legacy and current Lucide agent-mention icon formats. - Start each catalog Add connection with a fresh setup identity. Honor Finish setup's exact draft/account/address instead of resuming an unrelated browser draft. Return Cancel and Done to Connectors and Email settings to the inbox. Group the task/thread explanation in a How it Works card. - Route AgentMail catalog removal through the email inbox control API, including unfinished drafts. Refresh both the catalog and inbox views. - Render each inbox management tab separately. Access uses the saved account grants and agent controls; Conversations and Activity use the shared persisted email feed. Activity lifecycle actions use the email API. Reconnect returns to inbox Settings. Conversation failures show a retry instead of a false empty state. Email delivery recovery stays in the task. - Map documented provider address conflicts to a field error. Preserve actionable messages for other failures. - Preserve non-secret draft fields across refresh, scoped to the requested agent. Never save API keys in browser storage. Resume partial inbox creation with the original agent, address, and request ID. - Show an already-created address with explicit retry and new-address recovery instead of locked inputs. Preserve the original inbox and resumable draft when choosing another address. Distinguish runtime-key 404 errors and log safe provider status/operation/code. - Apply final agent access once within email setup authorization for a new account whose original installs are unchanged. Preserve later permission edits and reused account installs. Support in-place retry of progress loading. - Let a failed inline setup change keys after retiring an empty draft. Persist its replacement setup identity without storing secrets. Recover a server-saved account when refresh interrupts the save response, while preserving intentional account changes. - Render the production setup in Storybook and add error, recovery, and mobile states. - Inset native select carets in shared CSS. Preserve custom icons, listboxes, keyboard behavior, and forced-color controls. - Add browser regression coverage and an AgentMail Product E2E case with persisted-state and rendered-card evidence. ## Verification - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, and `git diff --check` passed after the default-availability change. - All 485 focused tests passed. These cover setup, management, catalog and route gates, connection intents, email authorization, Cursor execution, and the OpenAPI contract. All 39 email integration tests run with the experimental chat setting off. - The shared polling change passed four behavioral tests, UI typecheck and build, and token gates. - `tests/e2e/agentmail.spec.ts` passed with the actual server setting off. This full-stack browser test uses simulated provider responses. It covers catalog entry, saved keys, editable address and domain controls, creation, conflicts, retry, all management tabs, clipboard feedback, the provider link, and task email rendering. - In the live local browser, Add connection reached the editable email step with the saved account key. The verified custom domain was selected by default. Both domain choices worked. The existing inbox Settings page remained available. Both active inboxes completed new mail checks with the setting off. No new provider inbox or email message was created for this pass. - Earlier live provider acceptance covered creation on a verified custom domain, Finish connecting on the reported draft, successful mail checks after refresh, and catalog removal of disposable draft and active connections. Clicking the email address copied the exact address and showed Copied!. View inbox opened the same inbox in AgentMail’s console. No email messages were sent. - Production setup and Settings Storybook builds and interactions passed. Settings states include active, paused, unassigned, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect. Receiving and revoked-access stories had zero accessibility violations. - Full local `pnpm test:run` on an earlier revision completed with 14,709 passing, 87 skipped, and four transient failures. All four failed cases passed in focused reruns without product changes. That serial full local command was not repeated after each follow-up. The latest-head full CI suite is the final test gate. - CI found an obsolete browser assertion that hid every channel when the flag was off. Updated it to keep AgentMail and the Channels surface visible while preserving the GitHub chat route gates. All 11 provider browser tests passed locally after scoping the Channels selector to the agent sidebar. Two initial local attempts stopped at temporary Postgres initialization. The passing run used a separate disposable database on the existing local Postgres server; it was removed after the test. - Updated the remaining sidebar and aggregator discovery assertions for default AgentMail availability. Ordinary task fixtures now return no email thread. All 128 sidebar/task-page tests and all 42 aggregator tests passed locally. - Latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`: full CI passed, with 54 successful checks including Snyk and two intentional Storybook skips. The CI run is https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37020833647. A fresh Greptile review scored 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Live model evaluations and inbound/outbound email delivery were not run. ## Risks - AgentMail no longer needs experimental opt-in. Setup still requires a human to connect an account and assign an inbox. Inline setup creates an inbox after a human submits a new or saved key. Company access, agent access, inbox assignment, and completion checks remain enforced. - AgentMail read APIs cannot prove global address availability. The visible-list check is bounded to 100 entries and cannot see inboxes outside the key’s scope. The UI reports this limitation, suggests alternatives without claiming they are free, and keeps final creation conflicts inline. Lookup outages show an error without preventing the authoritative creation attempt. - Native select CSS affects the whole app. Custom-icon selects and multi-row lists are excluded. Forced-color mode keeps the browser caret. - Saved-key discovery uses stored verified scope metadata and checks authorized legacy credentials concurrently within a shared three-second deadline. Provider outages mark legacy choices unavailable; users can still enter another key. Final use rechecks authorization and provider access. - No database migration or transport default change. Live connection remains the default. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; full-suite limitation documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green (latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`) - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups (latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`) - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): streamline account menu profile access and add Invite shortcut (#14480)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Humans work in teams, so Paperclip has a multi-user system with logins, profiles, and a company sidebar. > - The account menu in the lower-left corner of the sidebar is the main entry point for a user's own settings. > - The account menu spent half of its rows on "View profile" and "Edit profile". Users open these rows rarely. > - The account menu had no fast path to invite a new member. The invite flow is different on a self-hosted instance and on Paperclip Cloud. > - This pull request removes the two profile rows, makes the header a link to the profile, adds an "Edit profile" button on the profile page, and adds an "Invite" row. > - The benefit is a shorter account menu that keeps profile access and gives users with the invite permission a one-click path to invite people. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The description below follows the enhancement template. Refs #14060. That earlier pull request holds the first two commits and the first Greptile review. It closed when the branch got a new name to remove an internal ticket id. All Greptile findings from both reviews are fixed in this branch. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The account menu in the sidebar (`SidebarAccountMenu` and its `.production` variant) and the user profile page at `/u/:userSlug`. **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React + Vite board UI **Current behavior** The account menu shows the user's picture and name at the top. Below them, the menu shows "View profile" and "Edit profile" rows, then the other rows. The header is not a link. The menu has no row to invite people. On a self-hosted instance, the user must open Company settings, then Members, then the Invites tab. On Paperclip Cloud, the user must open the Members page and use the Cloud People link there. **Proposed behavior** The account menu does not show "View profile" or "Edit profile". The picture and name at the top of the menu are a link to the user's own profile page. The profile page shows an "Edit profile" button when the viewer looks at their own profile. The account menu shows an "Invite" row with the same `UserPlus` icon as the company menu. On a self-hosted instance, the row opens the Members page on the Invites tab, and shows only to boards that hold the `users:invite` grant (company owners and admins, instance admins, and local boards). On Paperclip Cloud, the row opens the People settings for the current stack, and shows only to the owner or admin of the stack, the same rule the Members page uses. **Reason and benefit** Users open their profile rarely, but the two rows took half of the menu. Inviting people is a common task, but it needed three clicks and a different path on Cloud. The new menu is shorter, keeps profile access in one tap on the header, and gives one "Invite" entry point on both hosting modes to the users who can invite. **Breaking changes** None. Routes, API responses, and settings keys do not change. The profile page and the invite pages keep their current URLs. ## What Changed - `SidebarAccountMenu.tsx` and `SidebarAccountMenu.production.tsx`: remove the "View profile" and "Edit profile" rows. Make the picture and name header a link to the user's profile. Add the "Invite" row after "Settings" in the streamlined menu and first in the production menu. - Header structure: `master` added a staging commit SHA link under the email in the same header. The profile link is now a stretched overlay behind the header content, so the SHA anchor sits beside the email and the header has no nested anchors. - `ui/src/lib/userProfileLinks.ts` (new): build the profile path from the user id first. The profile endpoint treats the id as the one unique slug, so two members with the same display name get different links. Name and email are a fallback only when the session has no id. - `ui/src/hooks/useCloudInviteUrl.ts` (new): read the Cloud stack portfolio and return the People settings URL only when the current stack role is owner or admin. This is the same rule as the Members page. - `ui/src/hooks/useCompanyInviteAccess.ts` (new): read the current board access snapshot and report whether the board may invite people to the selected company on a self-hosted instance. Local boards and instance admins pass. Other boards need an active owner or admin membership, the roles that carry `users:invite`. This follows the same client-side gate pattern as `ToolsAdminGate` and the run ledger. The server stays authoritative. - Invite row visibility: the row is hidden when the operator hides `company.members` or `company.invites`, and until the health check resolves. On self-hosted instances, the row is hidden until the board access snapshot loads and when the board cannot invite. On Cloud, the row is hidden when no People URL can be built. The in-app Invites tab is never a fallback on Cloud, because it drives a different flow. - `ui/src/pages/UserProfile.tsx`: add an "Edit profile" button that links to `/company/settings/instance/profile`. The button shows only on the viewer's own profile and follows the `instance.profile` hidden-settings gate. - Tests: extend `SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx`; add `userProfileLinks.test.ts`, `UserProfile.test.tsx`, and `useCompanyInviteAccess.test.ts`. - No documentation references the removed menu rows, so no docs change is needed. ## Verification Run the focused tests from the `ui/` directory: ```bash pnpm vitest run src/components/SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx src/hooks/useCompanyInviteAccess.test.ts src/lib/userProfileLinks.test.ts src/pages/UserProfile.test.tsx ``` - 52 tests pass in these four files. They cover the header link by user id, the removed rows, the header overlay with no nested anchors, the self-hosted invite target, the self-hosted permission gate (owner, admin, instance admin, and local board see the row; an operator does not, on both menu variants), the Cloud invite target with no `target="_blank"`, the menu order, the hidden-settings gate on both variants, the Cloud role gate (a plain member sees no row), the no-fallback rule when Cloud stack metadata is missing, the staging commit SHA link from `master`, and the own-profile-only "Edit profile" button. - `tsc -b` in `ui/` reports no errors in the changed files. The only errors are pre-existing `@paperclipai/plugin-sdk/ui` resolution errors in `PluginOrganizationSwitcher.tsx` from an unbuilt workspace package. Manual steps: 1. Sign in and open the account menu in the lower-left corner. Confirm the menu has no "View profile" or "Edit profile" rows. 2. Click your picture or name at the top of the menu. Confirm your profile page opens and shows an "Edit profile" button. 3. Open another user's profile. Confirm the page shows no "Edit profile" button. 4. On a self-hosted instance, as a company owner or admin, click "Invite". Confirm the Members page opens on the Invites tab. As an operator or viewer, confirm the menu shows no "Invite" row. 5. On Paperclip Cloud, as a stack owner or admin, click "Invite". Confirm the Cloud People settings page opens in the same tab. As a plain member, confirm the menu shows no "Invite" row. ## Risks - Low risk. The change is limited to the UI and touches ten files. - Users who know the "View profile" and "Edit profile" rows must learn the new header link. The header has hover and focus styles to show that it is a link. - On self-hosted instances, the "Invite" row depends on the board access snapshot from `/cli-auth/me`, which other gates in the UI already use. A member with a custom `users:invite` grant but an operator or viewer role does not see the row. That member can still use the Members page. The row is a shortcut, not the only path. - On Paperclip Cloud, the "Invite" row depends on the stack portfolio query. When that query fails or the role is unknown, the menu hides the row instead of sending the user to the wrong flow. - Both menu variants change together, so a behavior difference between them is not expected. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic. Model: Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`). - Run through Claude Code on the Claude Agent SDK inside a Paperclip `claude_local` agent, with extended thinking and tool use (file edits, shell, tests, GitHub API). - The model wrote the code, the tests, and this description. A human reviewed the pull request and requested the review fixes. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Bender (Fable) <bender@paperclip.local> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(ui): add secondary navigation for agent chat (#14706)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent Chat already provides a persistent conversation with each agent. > - Its shortcuts share the primary navigation and do not give chats a dedicated place. > - People need to find agents, start a chat, and switch conversations without moving the page layout. > - This pull request adds a secondary chat sidebar and a landing page around the existing chat surface. > - The same conversation, composer, history, and context panel remain in use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13283 and #13420. This extends the existing experimental Agent Chat navigation after review of the component and page stories. It supports the CEO Chat roadmap item through the existing task-backed conversation model. **Subsystem affected** The board UI and the company-scoped conversation list API. **Current behavior** Chat shortcuts sit inside the primary navigation. There is no dedicated landing page with a searchable conversation list. A separate landing header also moves the sidebar when an agent is selected. **Proposed behavior** Show a Chat entry in primary navigation. Keep a searchable agent sidebar beside the chat content. The plus button starts or reopens the current user's single conversation with that agent. Keep the header and sidebar in the same positions before and after selection. **Reason and benefit** People can find agents and return to persistent conversations without leaving the chat area or creating duplicate chats. **Breaking changes** The experimental chat navigation changes. Explicitly adding a chat now resolves its conversation immediately. Direct visits to unused agent chat URLs remain read-only. The existing per-agent routes and message contracts remain compatible. No database migration is required. ## What Changed - Add an account- and company-scoped conversation list endpoint with the existing access checks, feature gate, and OpenAPI entry. - Add the live secondary sidebar, landing page, avatars, search, loading states, errors, and retry controls. - Make the agent picker wait for chat creation and display failures. Existing agents reopen the same conversation. A dismissed selection cannot close a reopened picker or navigate over a newer choice. - Preserve recent-activity ordering and terminated agents’ chat history. Scope live list refreshes to the current user’s conversation events. A failed historical-agent lookup leaves healthy chats usable and offers a focused retry. - Keep the sidebar and header stable across chat routes. Keep mobile selection in the navigation drawer. - Use the production components in Storybook. Prepare the theme and mobile viewport before mounting the page to avoid the startup flash. - Update product documentation, the design guide, and navigation tests. Replace old browser expectations for stars and recent shortcuts with persistent conversation and layout coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass after rebasing onto master. - Focused UI tests pass, including 105 sidebar, picker, and live-update checks after review fixes. The 33 conversation service and route tests and 10 OpenAPI checks pass, including ownership, feature gating, and concurrent creation. - The full local test run passed 14,163 server tests before three environment or timeout failures. The embedded Postgres startup, connector socket, and native runner failures all passed direct reruns. - Browser test-drive verification covers a real provider reply, add and reopen, persisted history after reload, no-match search recovery, mobile drawer dismissal, and top-aligned context panels. - Browser measurements confirm that the sidebar has the same position and dimensions on the landing page and an agent conversation. - Storybook builds and its add-and-reopen interaction passes. - The revised browser regression passes locally against a freshly built throwaway instance. It covers stable sidebar geometry, add/reopen uniqueness, drafts, search, history, and terminated-agent history after reload. The full CI browser suite also passes. - Latest commit `b323577d9523180104df4000eaceedea2772608c`: all 54 completed checks pass, including the complete server/workspace/browser suites, aggregate verification, build/typecheck, security scans, and canary packaging. The two Storybook jobs are skipped by their workflow conditions. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36714052050). - Greptile reviewed this same commit at 5/5 with no remaining actionable findings; all review threads are resolved. - Reviewer path: enable Agent Chat, click Chat, use plus to choose an agent, send a message, switch away, and reopen that agent. One conversation must remain, with its history intact. ## Risks - The new sidebar lists persistent conversations instead of starred and recent shortcuts. - Chat creation is asynchronous. Errors stay visible in the picker, and delayed responses cannot navigate into a previous company or account. - The shell adjustment is limited to chat routes and preserves the existing conversation implementation. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The session does not expose the exact API model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #123` / `Refs #123` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Browser Use Cloud connector and live task browsers (#14627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps gateway gives agents governed access to external tools. > - Browser Use Cloud can run browser work, but a tool result alone does not let a person watch or take over. > - A task needs a durable browser session, a visible viewer, and recorded costs. > - This pull request adds a Browser Use Cloud v4 connection and interactive browser tabs on tasks. > - People can follow the work, interact with the page, and retain the browser after the agent finishes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need governed access to Browser Use Cloud. People need to see and interact with the same browser from the task. A browser must remain available after a run finishes and appear at the correct point in the task feed. **Proposed solution** Add a native REST connection for the v4 API. Bind each session to its company, task, agent, and credential grant. Open its interactive viewer in the task side panel. Record provider costs as financial events. Use `browser-use-cloud` as the app and connector key. Keep its skill with the connector and deliver it only with authorized connection tools. **Alternatives considered** A v3 MCP connection would expose tools without the v4 lifecycle integration. An external viewer link would leave the task. A fixed viewer size would prevent pages from responding to changes in the task pane. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the governed Apps gateway and Connected Apps roadmap. It uses the existing task, grant, secret, approval, and financial records. The work was requested by the maintainer. A search found no duplicate Browser Use connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Browser Use Cloud app, brand asset, API-key connection, and profile settings under the `browser-use-cloud` key. - Bundle the `browser-use-cloud` skill with the connector. Keep it out of global `skills/` discovery. Deliver it only with authorized task/run connection tools. Remove retired connector skill keys from runtime overlays and preserve unrelated browser skills. - Expose seven v4 tools through the governed gateway and deliver them to native and CLI agents. - Persist sessions, browsers, runs, event and recovery cursors, shutdown leases, and cumulative cost accounting. Recover uncertain paid starts without replaying them. - Enforce task ownership, credential grants, approvals, revoked access, and budget limits. - Add interactive task browser tabs and compact chronological feed entries. Retain the viewer across tab switches and keep visible idle browsers open. - Add debounced automatic viewport fitting, standard size presets, and a viewer ownership lease. - Add lifecycle, authorization, accounting, viewport, UI, and Storybook coverage. - Add an idempotent database migration after the current master migration. Preserve deployed migration hashes. Migrate pre-release Cloud connection and financial keys without replacing grants, credentials, or browser history. - Document provider behavior, live acceptance results, and the lack of documented passkey forwarding. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and production build pass on the updated branch. - Token gates, brand asset validation, module boundaries, and migration ordering pass. - Cloud tests verify global skill exclusion, authorized task/run delivery, unassigned agents, disabled connections, revocation, adapter isolation, and secret exclusion. The existing AgentMail connector assignment test also passes. - Migration replay runs twice against existing browser work and financial records. It preserves the records and avoids duplicate costs. - The focused provider, app catalog, OpenAPI, connection gateway, and migration regression suites pass. Recovery coverage includes lost replies, process crashes, provider rejection, and browser arrival acknowledgement. - All 54 checks pass on `2974b5f03641ad0cea3c941d8c02579316fa8c92`, including the full test matrix, browser E2E shards, build, typecheck, security, and release canary. Two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit, with zero unresolved review threads. The corrected review uses the actual master-to-head diff. - The local `pnpm test:run` started and was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It did not complete locally; the full-suite result above comes from CI. - Earlier live acceptance used an isolated company with a capped provider credential. The agent opened paperclip.ing, the embedded viewer accepted navigation, and the same browser stayed available after completion and tab switches. - The local Storybook build passes. Stories cover the panel, footer, feed entries, settings, lifecycle failures, and viewport modes with an offline viewer fixture. ## Risks - Browser Use charges for hosted work. Provider caps and local budget checks reduce exposure; reported costs can arrive after work completes. - Viewer and CDP URLs grant access to the browser. The server validates and restricts them. They are excluded from agent results and durable event data. - Runtime resizing of v4 agent browsers uses a provider option confirmed by live testing but absent from its published agent schema. Resizing during a click may invalidate coordinates. Fixed presets remain available. - Viewport ownership is process-local and resets on restart. The lifecycle and accounting records remain in the database. - The original intermittent embedded-viewer stall has not been fully diagnosed. A bounded reconnect and active-session recovery cover the observed failure paths. - Live tests did not cover every revocation, approval, rate-limit, or restart case. Deterministic integration tests cover those paths. Passkey forwarding is not claimed. - Unknown create outcomes keep the credential available for cleanup. Run-list absence cannot prove a paid POST was rejected, so recovery stays pending until it can identify provider work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used reasoning, repository search, code execution, browser interaction, and test tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: always enable keyboard shortcuts (#14643)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The web UI has keyboard shortcuts for the inbox, task lists, cases, and task detail, plus global shortcuts such as `c`, `/`, `?`, `[`, and `]` > - Shortcut enablement was an instance-wide General setting until #14141 moved it to a per-user preference that defaults to off > - The move did not carry the old instance value over, so every existing user lost shortcuts on upgrade and had to find a new toggle under Profile settings > - A toggle that only turns off a standard, input-safe feature costs a setting, a database column, two API routes, and a React context for little benefit > - This pull request removes both the instance setting and the personal preference and enables keyboard shortcuts for every signed-in user > - The benefit is one less thing to configure, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and less code to maintain ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14141 (the change that introduced the personal preference). **What existing behavior does this improve?** Keyboard shortcuts in the web UI stay off unless each user turns them on in Profile settings. **Subsystem affected** Web UI shortcuts, Profile settings, instance general settings, the `/api/auth/preferences` routes, and the `user` table. **Current behavior** Shortcuts default to off per user. #14141 moved the toggle from Instance settings → General to Profile settings and did not carry the old instance value over. Users who had shortcuts on lost them after the upgrade and had to find the new toggle. **Proposed behavior** Keyboard shortcuts are always enabled for every signed-in user. There is no instance setting and no personal preference. Shortcuts already ignore key presses inside text inputs and modal dialogs, so an opt-out is not needed. **Reason and benefit** Fewer settings, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and removal of a database column, two API routes, a query hook, and a React context that existed only to gate this feature. **Breaking changes** `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences` are removed. `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` no longer accepts `keyboardShortcuts`; that schema is strict, so the key now returns 400. `instance.general.keyboardShortcuts` is no longer a valid `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` key; the parser ignores unknown keys with a warning. ## What Changed - Removed the Keyboard shortcuts section from Profile settings, the `useUserPreferences` hook, `queryKeys.auth.preferences`, and `authApi.getPreferences` / `authApi.updatePreferences`. - Removed `GeneralSettingsContext`. The inbox, legacy inbox, task list, legacy task list, cases, and task detail pages no longer gate their key handlers. - Removed the `enabled` option from `useKeyboardShortcuts`. The app shell always registers the global shortcuts. - Removed `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences`, their OpenAPI entries, and the `currentUserPreferencesSchema` / `updateCurrentUserPreferencesSchema` validators. - Removed `keyboardShortcuts` from `InstanceGeneralSettings`, the general settings zod schema, the settings service defaults, and `HIDEABLE_GENERAL_SECTIONS`. - Added migration `0289_drop_user_keyboard_shortcuts`, which drops `user.keyboard_shortcuts`. - Updated `AGENTS.md`, `doc/SPEC.md`, `doc/SPEC-implementation.md`, and `docs/deploy/environment-variables.md`. - Parsed the stored general settings row with `instanceGeneralSettingsSchema.strip()` in the feedback vote path, so a retired key left in the row cannot reset the sharing preference to `prompt` and overwrite the stored choice. - Kept every bare global shortcut (`c`, `?`, `[`, `]`, `/`) out of open modal dialogs in `useKeyboardShortcuts`; only `/` had that guard before. - Updated the affected tests and added a Profile settings test that asserts the toggle is gone, a hook test for the modal dialog guard, and a feedback service regression test for the retired-key case. ## Verification - Typecheck passes for `@paperclipai/shared`, `@paperclipai/db` (including the migration numbering and safety checks), `@paperclipai/server`, and `ui`. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sentry.test.ts` → 119 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/pages/ProfileSettings.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Cases.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceGeneralSettings.test.tsx` → 286 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.test.ts` → 16 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx` → 7 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/feedback-service.test.ts` (embedded Postgres) → the new retired-key test passes with the fix and fails without it. - Manual: sign in with no settings changed, open the inbox, press `j` and `k` to move the selection, press `?` to open the cheatsheet. Open Settings → Profile and confirm there is no Keyboard shortcuts section. ## Risks - The migration drops a column. It uses `DROP COLUMN IF EXISTS`, and the column has no readers after this change. If you roll back to a build from before this PR after the migration has run, re-add the column first: `ALTER TABLE "user" ADD COLUMN "keyboard_shortcuts" boolean DEFAULT false NOT NULL;`. The older build's ORM selects that column when it loads users. - Any external client that still sends `keyboardShortcuts` to `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` receives a 400. No in-repo client does. - Stored `instance_settings.general.keyboardShortcuts` values are stripped on read and ignored. - Users who never turned the toggle on now get shortcuts. The handlers skip text inputs, contenteditable regions, and modal dialogs, so typing is unaffected. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`) in Claude Code, with extended thinking and tool use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(ui): show running commit in staging account menu (#14410)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The account menu shows the signed-in user's identity. > - Staging users need to know which server commit is running after a deploy. > - The health endpoint already returns that commit, but the menu does not show it. > - This pull request adds the short commit below the email on staging hosts. > - Users can open the menu to check a deploy without opening deployment tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The account menu on staging instances. **Current behavior** The menu shows the user's name and email. It does not show the running server commit. **Proposed behavior** On `*.staging.paperclip.app`, show `SHA 8751e2d` below the email. Use the current `/api/health` commit. Show the full SHA on hover and link to the commit on GitHub. Refresh the health query when the menu opens. Hide the label on other hosts and when commit metadata is unavailable. **Reason and benefit** A user can confirm which commit a staging instance runs after an automatic deploy. **Breaking changes** None. The server already returns the commit field. Refs #14060 for related account-menu work. This change adds deployment information only. ## What Changed - Add the existing health response commit field to the UI type. - Share the staging host check and a separate health query across both account-menu variants. A menu refresh failure leaves the access gate health state unchanged. - Show a short SHA below the email. Link to the full commit on GitHub and include the full SHA in its accessible name and hover title. - Document the staging label and cover staging hosts, other hosts, missing metadata, refresh on reopen, and request failure isolation. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx` — 24 tests passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. The UI build and typecheck also passed again after review fixes. - Full test matrix — passed on the latest commit in [CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36447810742). The local `pnpm test:run` was stopped before completion after CI finished the same suites. The focused local tests, full local typecheck, and full local build passed. - Browser shard 6 passed on one rerun. Its first attempt lost part of the draft text in the existing attachment-receipt reload test. No code changed for the rerun. - Rendered the real account menu in a local browser fixture with a staging hostname condition and mocked health response. Confirmed the SHA fits below the email in the dark menu. - Greptile review — 5/5, all review threads resolved. - Manual check after deployment: open the menu on a staging host and compare the SHA with `/api/health`. Open the menu again after a deploy to refresh it. Confirm the label is absent on production and localhost. ## Risks - Low risk. Each menu opening on staging can make one additional health request. - The host check applies to `*.staging.paperclip.app`. Other staging domains will need an explicit update. - The label identifies the running server commit. It can briefly show cached data while the request completes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact model variant and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code execution, repository inspection, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): register artifact tabs without opening the panel (#14193)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Tasks keep agent outputs in the Artifacts tab.
> - An output can arrive while the user writes a message or reads a
document.
> - Opening the side panel on arrival interrupts that work, especially
on mobile.
> - This pull request adds the Artifacts tab without opening the panel
or changing the selected tab.
> - Users can open their outputs when they choose.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
New agent outputs opened the task side panel or mobile drawer. An
arrival could also replace the selected document or workspace file.
Existing outputs did not always register an Artifacts tab.
**Expected behavior**
Register one Artifacts tab for existing and new outputs. Keep a closed
panel closed. Preserve composer focus, the selected tab, and document or
file links.
**Steps to reproduce**
Open a task from the inbox. Close its side panel. Enter a message draft.
Create an agent output in that task. The panel must stay closed and the
draft must keep focus. Open the panel to see the Artifacts tab. Repeat
on a mobile viewport.

fix(ui): use large mobile selector modals (#14250)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The new task dialog lets an operator assign work on a phone. > - The mobile picker used fixed coordinates inside the Radix wrapper. > - iOS Safari already makes fixed coordinates relative to the visual viewport. > - The old code added the visual viewport offset a second time. > - This pull request removes the second offset and gives the mobile wrapper full viewport geometry. > - The benefit is a visible picker and search field when the iOS keyboard opens. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The assignee and project pickers could move outside the visible screen in the new task dialog on iOS. **What did you expect to happen?** The picker and its search field must stay visible above the bottom edge and the software keyboard. **Steps to reproduce** Open the new task dialog on an iPhone. Select Assignee or Project. The picker can move outside the visual viewport when Safari pans the page. **Paperclip version or commit** The problem exists after the change in PR #13343. **Deployment mode** The problem affects the board UI in local and authenticated modes. Refs #13343 ## What Changed - Use visual viewport local coordinates for the new task dialog. - Give the mobile Radix popper wrapper full viewport geometry. - Render both shared selector components as large, titled mobile modals. - Keep desktop selectors as anchored popovers. - Cover the new-task assignee, new-task project, composer assignee, and generic searchable selector in Storybook. - Add iPhone-sized Storybook states for the assignee and project pickers. - Update viewport tests for the corrected coordinate model. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx src/components/InlineEntitySelector.test.tsx` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - Playwright used the iPhone 14 device profile. All mobile modals were inside the 390 by 664 CSS viewport. - Each mobile modal was `x=16, y=16, width=358, height=632`. - A desktop check kept the anchored popover at `width=320, height=211`. ## Risks - Low risk. The CSS only changes narrow mobile viewports. - The full-screen popper wrapper does not receive pointer events. The picker still receives pointer events. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5.6, Codex agent with tool use and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal task ID - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant Storybook documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): enable MCP aggregators by default (#13964)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents for work. > - Connections let those agents use external services with explicit access rules. > - Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor already have setup and runtime support. > - Their experimental switch still blocks discovery and setup by default. > - This pull request removes those gates and the Settings toggle. > - Users can connect these providers without enabling an experiment. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13755. Refs #13941. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Apps browsing, inline setup, and agent connection search for the four MCP aggregators. **Current behavior** An instance must enable the MCP aggregators experiment before users or agents can start setup. **Proposed behavior** All four providers are available by default on local and managed instances. Old stored and managed values still parse but cannot disable them. ## What Changed - Remove the aggregator gates from Apps, inline setup, server setup, and agent search. - Remove the Settings toggle and its UI hook. - Retain the old setting key only for upgrade compatibility. Normalize it to true and ignore managed overrides, as Apps already does. - Replace opt-in fixtures with default-on coverage. Test old false values, all four setup flows, provider choice, and the removed toggle. - Update current connector guidance and remove the opt-in from the runner acceptance fixture. ## Verification - 306 focused tests passed across eight files: shared remote MCP contracts; server remote MCP lifecycle, aggregator fallback, settings normalization, and managed overlay; UI Apps browsing, setup, and experimental settings. - Server and UI TypeScript checks passed. - UI token gates and `git diff --check` passed. - The full local suite was not run, per the maintainer's instruction. All 54 CI checks passed; two checks were skipped. One unrelated workspace-preview readiness timeout passed on one failed-shard retry. - The setup fixtures use simulated MCP responses. This change does not claim new live provider acceptance. ## Risks - Existing instances now show all four providers, even if the old flag was false. This is intentional. - External provider choice, credentials, company isolation, agent grants, and tool policies still apply. Showing a connector does not authorize an external account. - No data migration is required. The compatibility key keeps old managed configuration documents valid. - Historical Zapier live acceptance remains incomplete in the existing evidence report. The maintainer explicitly requested the default-on rollout for all four existing providers; the report records that scoped exception. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and test execution. feat(connections): add experimental memory providers and remote MCP access (#13942)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Agents need durable memory across tasks and execution environments. > - Mem0, Zep, Supermemory, Cognee, and Honcho provide hosted memory tools. > - This pull request adds their setup flows behind an experimental toggle. > - It also delivers assigned MCP tools through the native remote Codex runner. > - Operators can connect a provider once and use the same governed tools locally or in Daytona. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** The Apps catalog lacks a complete set of memory providers. Remote native Codex agents also need access to assigned managed MCP tools without receiving provider credentials. **Proposed solution** Add five memory connectors behind the disabled-by-default Experimental memory connectors setting. Use the existing connection setup and permissions UI. Default their tools to Allowed. Preserve company boundaries, operator permission changes, provider scopes, and audit attribution. **Alternatives considered** Direct provider credentials in each sandbox would duplicate setup and bypass the managed gateway. The remote runner instead uses its existing protocol channel to call the gateway on the server. **Roadmap alignment** This maintainer-requested experiment supports the Memory / Knowledge and Connected Apps roadmap areas. It adds provider connections without introducing a separate memory UI. Related connector authoring documentation is tracked in #13692; no duplicate memory-provider implementation was found. ## What Changed - Add provider definitions, official branding, and the experimental setting for all five providers. - Use OAuth for Zep and Supermemory, API credentials for Mem0 and Honcho, and a bundled Cloud API bridge for Cognee with no runtime downloads or subprocesses. - Default memory tools to Allowed and classify destructive actions explicitly. - Fix personal remote credential resolution and propagate provider tool errors. - Relay assigned managed MCP tools to remote native Codex through the runner protocol. Recheck current authority for each call and rotate stale tool contracts. - Add 21 Storybook states and complete OAuth walkthrough fixtures. - Document provider research, sanitized tool inventory, and live local and Daytona proof. ## Verification - Passed workspace typecheck: `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed production build: `pnpm build`. - Full local `pnpm test:run`: 13,273 passed, with failures from process/readiness timeouts under parallel load. Reran all 16 affected suites with one worker: 456 passed, leaving two macOS `/var` versus `/private/var` path assertions. Both passed with `TMPDIR=/private/tmp`. No test failures remain unverified. Latest-head remote CI passes all 54 checks (two optional Storybook jobs skipped). Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Latest Cognee gateway regression: 71 passed, including public deployment without a runtime host and immediate recovery after a provider error. Bundled bridge tests: 25 passed. - Browser setup and real agent tasks exercised all five providers. Mem0, Cognee, Zep, and Honcho have successful store/retrieve proof. - Supermemory now has scoped read/write consent. Local storage and real Daytona write, document read, and semantic recall passed; indexing completion was verified before claiming success. - All five providers were exercised through a real Daytona sandbox and its native runner MCP relay. Provider credentials remained on the server. The final bundled Cognee bridge also passed a fresh Daytona store/recall run. All disposable sandboxes were removed and verified absent after testing. - Storybook is rebuilt and contains the experimental toggle, catalog, setup, permissions, and error states. The Zep and Supermemory access steps advance correctly. ## Risks - Provider OAuth scopes and plan limits remain independent of Paperclip tool permissions. An Allowed tool can still be rejected by the provider. - Providers can queue memory indexing; save acceptance does not prove that semantic recall is ready. - Remote tool contracts must stay synchronized with current connection authority. Regression tests cover revocation and stale contracts. - This change has no database migration. Existing connections remain usable when the experimental catalog toggle is disabled. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, repository edits, code execution, and browser automation. The exact context window size is not exposed in this session. Live acceptance agents used `gpt-5.6-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): hide workspace isolation controls for managed hosts (#13907)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Workspace isolation keeps task checkouts separate. > - Managed hosts can enable isolation and hide its experimental toggles. > - Project, task, and routine forms still expose choices that override that policy. > - This pull request adds an operator visibility key for those controls. > - Workspace access stays available, and execution keeps its existing policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator control over workspace isolation settings in the UI. This follows the settings list cleanup in #13905. **Current behavior** Hiding the experimental isolation toggles leaves project policy editors, task selectors, routine and pipeline overrides, recovery actions, and workspace configuration visible. **Proposed behavior** Set `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS=workspaces.isolation` to hide these controls. Keep workspace navigation, status, files, and runtime access. Hide experimental toggles separately. Instances that do not set this key keep their controls. **Reason and benefit** Users on managed hosts should use the host's isolation default. A hidden form must not submit a stale draft that overrides it. ## What Changed - Add the UI-only `workspaces.isolation` key to the shared visibility registry. - Hide project workspace policy, task and subtask selectors, routine and pipeline overrides, and isolated re-issue actions. - Hide the workspace Configuration tab and redirect direct links to workspace issues. - Omit hidden new-task and routine overrides. Keep explicit task/subtask workspace launch context, saved policies, and automatic branch values for workspace routine runs. - Wait for the health visibility policy before showing controls. Keep workspace access and all execution APIs available. - Document the key and test visibility, form payloads, deep links, and unchanged workspace access. ## Verification - All 52 CI checks pass on `50cc770d33` (two expected skips). The branch is mergeable. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved comments. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - Targeted UI checks passed: 346 tests across 14 suites, including hidden project/task controls, stale task drafts, routine branch defaults, recovery actions, configuration deep links, and workspace access. - Shared settings-visibility tests passed: 11 tests. - `pnpm test:run` was run and stopped after reproducing five failures in unchanged server tests: two `chat-channels.integration` cases (linked-request provenance and direct external-chat finals) and three `company-skills-service` cases (runtime refresh, concurrent download, and explicit update). The earlier local run for #13905 showed the same failures. The full local suite is not claimed green. Targeted UI/shared checks pass. All PR CI shards, including the affected chat and skills suites, pass. - Reviewed the diff for secrets, private links, and run artifacts. ## Risks This key changes UI visibility only. It does not reject API calls or change feature values. Operators must enable isolation and its default through their existing policy mechanism. Older app versions ignore the new key until upgraded. Removing the key restores the controls. No schema changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository tools, and test execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally; targeted checks pass (full-suite limitation documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add experimental MCP aggregator connectors (#13755)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tool gateway applies company access rules and approval controls to connected apps. > - MCP aggregators expose many apps through one provider endpoint. > - Each aggregator needs its own credential, catalog, grants, and lifecycle in Paperclip. > - This pull request adds independent Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor setup with a common Access → Connect layout. > - A default-off MCP aggregators flag lets operators opt in while we complete provider acceptance tests. > - Agents use the normal Paperclip permissions, Test screen, and gateway after setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Apps, connection setup, shared contracts, and the remote MCP gateway. **Problem or motivation** Aggregator endpoints need clear provider setup and correct MCP sessions. Generic setup does not explain each provider's authentication or broad execution tools. Provider approval must preserve the original execution instead of replaying a write. **Proposed solution** Add four separate connectors behind Settings → Experimental → MCP aggregators. Start with human and agent access, then connect the endpoint and read its tools. Enable tools by default. Use the existing Permissions and Test screens after setup. Keep legacy Composio API-key and child connections intact. **Alternatives considered** A shared connection for all providers would mix credentials and access rules. Separate provider-specific permission and test screens would duplicate existing controls. Vercel Connect is outside this change. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps capability and the Connected Apps roadmap area. This work was requested and reviewed by the maintainer. Related work: #11894, #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906 concern the legacy Composio broker. #13102 also covers remote MCP pagination. This change preserves the broker path and adds initialized sessions, response matching, and provider resume handling alongside pagination. ## What Changed - Add branded setup and interactive Storybooks for Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor. Use the existing access controls and normal action tests. Do not request a connection name or action choices during setup. - Add the default-off `enableMcpAggregators` flag to settings, managed feature metadata, the catalog, and setup guards. Hidden connections keep running. Legacy Composio connections remain unchanged. - Reuse the vault, grants, policy, and catalog models. Support OAuth discovery, bearer tokens, custom headers, and credential-bearing URLs. Add no database tables or migrations. - Initialize and retain Streamable HTTP sessions by connection and effective credentials. Read paginated catalogs and match streaming responses to request IDs. - Classify unfamiliar aggregator tools as writes despite upstream read-only hints; only exact reviewed read capabilities enter the read-only allowlist. Legacy Composio child behavior is preserved. - Preserve provider authorization links and execution IDs. Support Executor approve/resume, decline, and cancel without automatic replay of uncertain writes. - Preserve Off and Ask first choices during refresh and reconnect. Allow new tools and retire removed tools. Keep agent access updates atomic and preserve an empty agent selection. - Document connector UX rules, provider branding sources, and live acceptance results. - Stabilize the existing Sentry release fixture after its repeated CI failure by reusing one module mock; production Sentry behavior is unchanged. ## Verification - Final head `d11781970`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35633534900) passed, including broad typecheck, test shards, build, and E2E. All 54 checks pass; 2 optional checks are skipped. Greptile is 5/5, Security Scan passes, and all review threads are resolved. - Passed 27 focused connector Vitest checks and 18 connector-only Storybook browser checks before the flag change. All 85 stories rendered at desktop and narrow widths. - Passed 5 connector lifecycle/server checks and 7 selected flag checks after adding the flag. The latter cover settings, managed defaults, cached catalog visibility, and all four setup routes. - Review fixes passed 13 risk/handoff/lifecycle checks, dedicated session-expiration and transport regressions, 13 selected connector/gateway CI cases, and 10 selected setup/reconnect UI cases. A real Composio connection-list call also succeeded through the refreshed UI on `9ab115f71`. - UI and server TypeScript checks passed. UI build, Storybook build, token gates, and diff whitespace checks passed during implementation. - Real browser and real Paperclip agent tests passed for Arcade, Composio, and Executor. Tested action permissions, denied agent access, reconnect, disconnect, and isolation. Tested Arcade catalog additions/removal and Executor provider approve/resume, decline, and cancel. - Zapier live acceptance is incomplete. Its dedicated provider server is configured, but its credential-copy dialog returned an empty clipboard through browser automation. No live Zapier action is claimed. - The three isolated Sentry release cases pass after the CI fixture fix. - Local verification is deliberately narrow at the maintainer's request. The full local suite, recursive typecheck, and repository-wide build were not run. CI provides the broader checks. ## Risks - Shared MCP transport changes affect other remote MCP servers. Protocol fixtures cover initialized sessions, streaming response matching, pagination, and isolation. - Broad execution tools remain broad permissions. The provider governs actions inside those tools. - Provider handoff links are retained briefly in memory. After a server restart, a one-time link may require reopening the provider dashboard. Paperclip does not replay the original call. - Zapier remains unproven live. Custom-header imports and self-hosted endpoints have fixture coverage rather than a separate live account for every variant. - Turning the experimental flag off hides setup; it does not revoke existing credentials or stop existing connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. A separate Anthropic-backed Paperclip agent performed live gateway acceptance tasks. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix: publish sandbox files on legacy and native runners (#13493)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents must publish generated files so users can inspect their results after a sandbox stops. > - Legacy sandbox bridges blocked attachment listing and could not carry multipart binary uploads through the queue transport. > - The native runner has a separate verified file registration path that needs the same durable result. > - This pull request repairs legacy binary transport, makes native download receipts explicit, and reveals new outputs in the task Artifacts tab. > - Users can open generated files from either runner without a transport flag change. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13355 for the existing native file publication path. Related filename fixes: #2615 and #4788. Related sandbox persistence work: #13376. This change repairs attachment delivery through the existing API; it does not add workspace persistence. **What happened?** The upload helper first lists task attachments to avoid duplicates. Both legacy bridge allowlists rejected that GET request with 403. A direct multipart upload also failed: the queue bridge accepted only JSON, excluded attachment uploads, and converted bytes to UTF-8 text. Enabling HTTP/2 alone did not fix the missing listing route. These failures occurred before attachment storage. **Expected behavior** Both runners can publish a workspace file, register its work product, bind it to a response, and return a working download. The file stays accessible after sandbox deletion. A new output opens the task Artifacts tab. The agent receives accurate errors and decides how to retry or report a failure. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a legacy agent in Daytona with the duplex bridge disabled. 2. Invoke the bundled upload helper with Bash on a PNG or PDF. 3. Repeat with the duplex bridge enabled. 4. Register the same file through the native runner with generic API tools disabled. 5. Retry registration, delete the sandbox, and compare the downloaded bytes with the original file. **Paperclip version or commit** The failing baseline was `f2c5e54dc`. This branch is rebased onto `6cfe4acff`. **Deployment mode** Source checkout with a local API and real isolated Daytona sandboxes. ## What Changed - Allow authenticated attachment listing, upload, and content download through both legacy bridge transports. - Add optional base64 body encoding to queue envelopes. Preserve the existing UTF-8 contract when the encoding field is absent. Decode binary bodies before forwarding them. - Preserve multipart headers. Bound raw bytes, encoded envelopes, and in-flight reservations. Retain timeout and uncertain-write behavior. - Preserve helper deduplication and return structured uncertain-write failures. Document explicit Bash invocation in live skills. - Add attachment IDs and content/download paths to native registration receipts. Reuse verified local and remote file reads, attachment storage, work-product registration, and response binding. - Preserve Unicode upload filenames and provide a valid Content-Disposition header. - Open the task Artifacts tab when new stored outputs arrive, including a closed desktop panel or mobile drawer. Deduplicate upload and registration events by object ID. Preserve manual selection on refetches, edits, and panel remounts. - Remove task artifact filters, the company Artifacts footer link, and the unassigned group heading and timestamp. ### Screenshot This is the local display fixture. The image was generated separately and published through the attachment and work-product APIs. ## Verification - Post-rebase `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. - The post-rebase local `pnpm test:run` passed 12,369 tests before one existing conversation reset test timed out; all 33 tests in that suite pass when rerun with isolated test configuration. The aggregate command stopped before its remaining groups. GitHub runs the complete suite in separate shards. - All [GitHub verification checks](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35017893350) pass on `b66ac276dd3d5fc738a22ecea783400106a494d4`: 32 successful checks and two configured skips. The native-session recovery assertion initially raced its fire-and-forget Sentry report; all 13 tests pass locally, and the same-commit CI rerun passes all 170 suites (3,079 tests). - Live post-rebase Daytona: all three file-delivery tests pass. They cover the real Bash helper with the queue bridge, the helper with HTTP/2, and native `register_deliverable` with generic API tools disabled. - Daytona cases cover PNG/PDF bytes, spaced and Unicode names, duplicate registration, response binding, authorization controls, and byte-for-byte downloads after sandbox deletion. - Local focused coverage includes transfer bounds, malformed encoding, interrupted transfers, remote path containment, and native file verification. The attachment route suite passes all 32 tests, including an eight-case filename-header matrix for Unicode and special characters, inline and forced downloads, and full and partial responses. - Browser verification confirms image previews, persisted downloads, automatic Artifacts selection, and preserved manual selection after edits and reloads. Desktop/mobile component coverage passes. The latest UI cleanup passes its 10 affected tests and token gates. - Coverage limit: the Daytona tests call the real helper and native registration path directly. They do not replay a complete model-led image-generation task through the browser. Live command (requires a configured Daytona credential): ```sh PAPERCLIP_FILE_DELIVERY_DAYTONA=1 pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/file-delivery-bridges.test.ts ``` ## Risks - Binary queue bodies use more memory because base64 adds encoding overhead. Transfer and process limits must remain aligned. - An interrupted write can have an unknown result. The bridge reports this state and preserves stable retry identities. - New artifacts intentionally change the active task tab. Existing history and repeated updates must not take focus again. - Transport flag defaults, server authorization, frozen skill snapshots, and completion policies remain unchanged. No schema migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add native in-app announcements with persistent dismissal (#13403)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Self-hosted boards need a way to show occasional product announcements. > - An app release should not be required to publish or withdraw a card. > - Native card controls keep publishing consistent; the hero can use a static image or isolated HTML/CSS animation. > - This pull request renders a validated JSON feed with native components. > - It stores dismissals per account on each instance, so a closed card stays closed across companies and browsers. > - Named staging feeds let authors test content before production publication. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Board application shell, announcement delivery, and user preferences. **Problem or motivation** Operators need a small, optional announcement card. Users need reliable dismissal state. Authors need to test remote content without changing the production feed. **Proposed solution** Add one non-modal AnnouncementWell. Fetch validated JSON and content-addressed media through the instance server. Keep card controls native, with optional sandboxed HTML/CSS animation in the hero. Use stable announcement IDs for dismissal, an explicit empty manifest and quiet 404 handling. Provide a staged publishing helper and isolated test-drive guide. **Alternatives considered** Hosting the entire card as a page would move navigation and dismissal into remote content. This change limits HTML to a scriptless, isolated visual hero and keeps controls native. Browser-only storage would lose dismissals across browsers, so the instance stores account preferences. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md has no overlapping announcement feature. A GitHub title search found no related announcement pull requests. This work implements a maintainer-requested feature. ## What Changed - Add shared feed types, strict validation of every object, supported routes, expiration and version checks. - Add a board-only current-feed API, constrained media proxy, and idempotent dismissal API. Store the first dismissal and its company audit entry in one transaction. - Cache upstream data for one hour. Use conditional requests, request deduplication, response limits, public destination checks, and a three-second deadline. Treat a remote 404 as an empty feed with a fifteen-minute retry cooldown. - Keep announcement visibility stable when focus moves to browser chrome or another app pane; only tab visibility starts a return check. - Add a responsive native announcement card. Respect onboarding, dialogs and toast placement. Sync pending dismissals across tabs and retry after reconnect or return. - Add idempotent migrations for dismissals and validated publication IDs, design-guide examples, static and animated Storybook examples, and focused tests. The publication registry supports offline retries without accepting caller-invented IDs. - Add HTML/CSS animated heroes with static posters, automatic playback, reduced-motion handling, strict DOMPurify validation, an empty iframe sandbox and CSP that blocks scripts/network resources. - Add validated staging publication, content-addressed assets, an empty production manifest, preview fixtures, and authoring/operator documentation. ## Verification - The preceding implementation passed 98 targeted shared/server/publisher/route/OpenAPI/UI tests and 127 tests including the master rebase. The playback-control removal passes all 21 announcement UI tests, covering the rendered sandbox, fallback, reduced motion, dismissal and slow/stale state lookups. The preceding shared/server tests cover HTML validation and response sandbox headers. - The playback-control removal passes UI typecheck, production UI build, Storybook build and token gates locally. Browser verification confirms the animated card has only its dismiss button and two links, with no page errors. The full canonical CI matrix passed on current head `00e416431edb610861599d50490270bbd0f3c6b6`: 32 successful checks and two optional Storybook deployment checks skipped. This run needed no retries. Greptile reviewed this same head at 5/5 with no outstanding findings. - The local canonical general-server run passed 12,063 tests before reporting embedded-PostgreSQL startup failures in an unrelated fixture. All 31 tests in that fixture passed across isolated retries. The UI group passed 6,219 tests and other workspace groups passed 3,201; two CLI database-startup failures also passed individually. Serialized server suites were verified by the full CI matrix rather than repeating them locally. No source changes were needed for these environment failures. - The real S3/CloudFront staging manifest and both media asset headers were verified. Production remains empty/unpublished. The guide distinguishes the preview host's disabled edge cache from production cache requirements. - In the isolated test-drive, the animation visibly moves without playback controls. A 390×844 browser viewport keeps the card above navigation. Reduced motion makes no animation request. Both themes render correctly and browser page errors are empty. Browser fault injection verified that scripts cannot execute and CSS cannot make network requests; a missing animation leaves its poster and controls. - Refresh leaves the animated card visible. Closing it persists after reload and the API returns null. Earlier live checks verified dismissal across browsers, company-relative CTA navigation, modal deferral/restoration, and new-ID eligibility after restarting the same database. - The deployed empty feed and a real remote 404 return HTTP 200 with null from the board API, with a usable dashboard and no announcement popup or browser warnings. - Authoring documentation covers staging, animated HTML constraints, test-drive, withdrawal, ID reuse and cache-refresh steps. ## Risks - Animation supports self-contained visual HTML/CSS and inline SVG, without JavaScript or external resources. A static image is required. Older builds that do not recognize the optional animation field quietly hide that unsupported feed. - The default feed makes an outbound request from an instance when a board is used. Operators can disable it. Requests contain no account IDs, company data, cookies or interaction events. - Feed publication and withdrawal can take about 65 minutes to reach returning users because of CDN and instance caches. Expiration also removes visible cards locally. - Dismissals follow an account within one instance. No-login instances share the existing local-board identity. Separate installations do not share state. - Both tables are additive. A unique key prevents duplicate dismissals; the transaction prevents duplicate first-dismissal audit entries. The publication registry retains only validated IDs. AGENTS.md and the implementation spec document the required exception to company scope for these instance-level records. - Publication was limited to separate public staging prefixes on the existing preview host. Production remains empty/unpublished. No AWS policies or infrastructure were changed. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, code editing, shell execution, tests, browser interaction, and tool use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental persistent agent chat (#13284)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Conversations must use the same tasks, controls, and execution history. > - Users need an ongoing chat with an agent without managing task properties. > - Agents should clarify and plan work, then hand execution to assigned project tasks. > - This pull request combines the reviewed Agent Chat stack for one squash merge. > - The benefit is persistent conversation with normal task governance and shared UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task lifecycle, agent runtime tools, shared task UI, and browser/paid runner tests. **Problem or motivation** Users need one persistent conversation with each agent. A separate chat store or renderer would duplicate task behavior and bypass existing controls. **Proposed solution** Use a task-backed chat per company, user, and agent. Reuse the task composer and transcript. Clarify and plan in chat, then create assigned project tasks with the relevant plan. Keep Agent Chat behind its own disabled-by-default experimental setting. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the task-backed direction in [CEO Chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/master/ROADMAP.md#-ceo-chat). Related proposals: #2504 and #9693. Related request: #7981. The maintainer requested one squash merge of the complete stack. Consolidates the reviewed runtime [#13281](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13281), backend [#13282](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13282), and UI [#13283](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13283) layers with this PR's E2E coverage. All four layers passed CI and received Greptile 5/5 before consolidation. This PR targets master and includes the complete feature. ## What Changed - Add personal canonical chat tasks with ordinary company visibility, immutable identity, idempotent first sends, and an idle waiting state. - Process `/new` in queue order. Preserve history, release a chat pause, and fence old provider context and delayed writes. - Keep chat lifecycle rules across recovery, finalization, assignment, task lists, and rollups. - Support research and plan revision in chat. Hand plans to ordinary assigned project tasks before execution starts. Reject new chat subtasks. - Add repository-aware project creation and discovery tools, including multiple repository IDs and GitHub URLs, authorization, idempotency, and durable project-created cards. - Reuse task UI components for chat, with starred/recent agent navigation and a separate `enableAgentChat` experimental flag. - Add deterministic browser tests and 24 paid chat cells across four Codex/Claude profiles, with validated reports and screenshots. - Integrate current master recovery, controller lease, queued-message, and task UI changes. Gate chat interruption and deferred promotion on ownership/feature policy. Guarantee lease renewal and active controls are stopped even if teardown fails. - Preserve master's migration 0273 and generate chat migration 0274 with idempotent replay for development databases. ## Verification - Prior exact heads of all four PRs passed Linux CI, including build, typecheck, general/serialized tests, and browser E2E. Each had Greptile 5/5 and no unresolved findings. - Integrated local verification passed: full repository typecheck and production build, Storybook build, token gates, 340 focused UI tests, all 20 deterministic chat browser tests, two migration replay tests, 88 focused chat/queue/native/controller tests, and provider/session regressions including real lease expiry. These include the three lifecycle regressions for the final admission/teardown fixes; server typecheck also passes. Current head `1268eda16cc2af892055917e7292f068820be135` has Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved findings and passing security scans. All final-head CI gates passed: build, full Runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary, all general/serialized test shards, and all browser E2E shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34696739927)). Local PostgreSQL startup contention required serialized retries; skipped fixtures do not count as passing coverage. - The earlier paid campaign passed all 24 chat cells and retained 32 screenshots: [report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-34648511170-1/index.html?report=agent-chat#suite-agent-chat). It tested `abacbdfd2f660709ec37312cdb758284c8399d04`; it is prior evidence, not a paid run of this integrated head. - Manual check: enable Agent Chat in Experimental settings, open an agent, clarify and revise a plan, then hand off to an assigned project task. Stop a reply, send `/new`, and verify fresh context with retained history. Disable the setting and verify agent shortcuts/new chat turns are blocked. ## Risks - Queue/session integration can affect retries and delayed writes. Tests cover ownership, cancellation, reset boundaries, idle recovery, and ordinary task behavior. - Migration 0274 adds conversation fields and constraints. Replay is idempotent and preserves existing development chat history. - This combines the previously reviewed stack at the maintainer's request. Agent Chat remains off by default and is separate from Conference Room. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, code execution, browser tools, and parallel review. The exact context-window size is not exposed in this session. Codex and Claude also ran as test subjects in the linked paid campaign. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. feat(ui): add composer Stop and simplify task controls (#13104)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task composer is where operators direct running agents. > - Operators need to stop work without leaving the conversation. > - Existing pause controls already hold task trees and interrupt both runner types. > - This pull request connects the composer to those controls and removes repeated feedback. > - Operators can pause work quickly and still queue messages while agents run. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Task pause, resume, and cancellation in the task page and composer. **Current behavior** The empty composer cannot stop a running task. Task controls require extra confirmation and reason text. Pause can show several notifications for the task already on screen. **Proposed behavior** Show Stop while this task runs and the composer is empty. Text or attachments switch it to Send. Stop and the menu use the same manual pause hold. Parent pauses include descendants. Keep task cancellation in the menu with a compact confirmation. Show one quiet pause row and gray cancelled-run details. **Reason and benefit** Operators can interrupt execution with one click. Drafts and queued messages keep their existing behavior. The UI waits for actual termination, including native cancellation acknowledgment. **Breaking changes** No endpoint, schema, or task-status change. Pause no longer asks for confirmation or a reason. Resume now honors the existing wake-agents option. Task notifications are suppressed for the task and subtree currently in view. Related UI work: #8228 changes navigation and composer shortcuts. This PR covers execution controls. No duplicate Stop-button PR was found. The change improves existing controls and does not duplicate a roadmap milestone. ## What Changed - Add Stop, pending feedback, duplicate-click protection, and inline errors to the composer. - Share the pause mutation across the composer, active-run controls, and menu. - Poll affected runs after a pause request. Require native cancellation acknowledgment. - Remove pause confirmation and shared reason fields. Reduce cancel confirmation to its task count and actions. - Honor wake-agents for executable tasks only. Preserve the pause when recovery review is needed; show partial wake failures inline. - Preserve explicit legacy reconciliation decisions while their continuation waits for dispatch. - Suppress notifications for visible task trees. Use quiet pause and cancellation feedback. - Add interactive stories using production controls and native/legacy end-to-end tests. ## Verification - User reviewed the running feature and revised Storybooks in the browser. - Rebased focused checks passed: 295 original targeted tests, 161 updated route/page/notification/status tests, and 26 recovery integration tests. - Both isolated runner journeys pass on the final revision (1.7 minutes). Coverage includes queueing, parent and child interruption, persisted holds, no automatic continuation, reconciled resume, cancellation, terminal exclusions, and no Stop toast. - Native coverage uses real runnerd with a deterministic provider fixture. Legacy coverage checks actual process termination. Live hosted-provider execution was not tested. - Repository typecheck and build, Storybook build, and token gates passed after rebase. The final server typecheck/build also passed. - The broad local run completed its general-server stage with 7,219 passing tests, 48 skipped, and two failures from cached pre-fix source and a stale native provider fixture. Both failed tests pass in fresh final-head reruns after rebuilding the fixture; the script did not continue to its later local stages. CI runs all test groups on the final revision. - Final revision: all 31 applicable CI checks passed; Storybook visual regression was skipped by its workflow conditions. Greptile: 5/5, zero unresolved comments. - Review `Tasks / Execution Controls` in Storybook. Type and clear a draft, stop a run, expand cancellation details, and test the menu on desktop and mobile. ## Risks - Stop pauses descendants for a parent task. This is the existing pause contract. - A held task can remain active if interruption fails. The UI shows an error instead of claiming termination. - Resume can start multiple assignees when wake-agents is selected. Backlog, blocked, and terminal tasks stay excluded. Existing execution reconciliation remains mandatory where required; Resume never invents action-outcome evidence. - Notification suppression uses the visible task and cached subtree. Notifications for unrelated work remain enabled. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime snapshot and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, tool calls, code execution, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(onboarding): first task opens as a chat with a chief of staff (#13068)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Onboarding ends by handing a new user to their first agent on a seeded first task > - Today the wizard asks for a mission up front, the UI composes what the agent is told, and the agent starts running before the user says anything > - New users get a cold, ticket-shaped start, and nobody can edit the agent's brief or persona without a code change > - This pull request makes the first task a short chat: a four-step wizard, a chief-of-staff persona, a greeting plus a two-option opening card, server-owned markdown texts, and no run until the user answers > - It also gives question cards one consistent action row (Cancel / Skip / Next), makes agent hires idempotent within a run, and turns the Paperclip Runner flag on by default for self-hosted instances > - The benefit is a first run the user steers, with texts a board operator can edit as markdown ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The feature request fields follow. Related PRs and issues: - Refs #11043 — an earlier draft of the first-task onboarding experience. This PR supersedes it. - Refs #11280 — a report about the onboarding first-task route test. This PR extends that test file. ### Subsystem affected Onboarding wizard, the seeded first task and its texts, task-chat question cards, agent hiring, and the instance experimental settings. ### Problem or motivation The onboarding wizard collects a mission through two extra steps and a questionnaire. The UI then composes the first agent's instructions and the first task description from those answers. The first task wakes the agent at once, so the agent runs and posts before the user types a word. Board operators cannot change the greeting, the brief, or the persona without editing TypeScript. Question cards in chat behave differently per adapter, and a single-select pick submits on click. A misread hire response could create a duplicate agent that the creating agent cannot remove. ### Proposed solution Reduce the wizard to four steps and stop the UI from authoring agent texts. Move the greeting, the brief, the chief-of-staff persona, and the opening question into markdown and JSON files that the server loads at runtime. Seed the persona onto the first agent through an explicit hire marker. Do not wake the first task until the user answers the opening card or types. Give every question card the same Cancel / Skip / Next actions. Add an experimental toggle that switches the single-task proposal between one confirmation card and a plan document with a checkbox card. Make agent hires idempotent within a run. ### Alternatives considered - Keep the mission questionnaire and feed it into the brief. Rejected: the agent asks better questions in chat, and the wizard gets shorter. - Keep the first task open-ended with a plain composer. Rejected: a two-option card gives the user a clear first move. - Derive the plan-document behaviour from the user's intent only. Rejected in favour of an explicit experimental toggle so operators can choose. - Key the "pick does not submit" behaviour off the presence of a submit label. Rejected: several adapters set a submit label on single-select cards, and their cards would change behaviour. ### Roadmap alignment `ROADMAP.md` lists no planned core work on onboarding or the first task. This change refines the existing flow and does not duplicate planned work. ## What Changed - Wizard: four steps (Name your organization, Create your first agent, Connect a model, Review). The front door and both mission steps are removed with their state and saved-progress keys. The UI no longer composes the first agent's instructions or the first task description. - Server-owned texts: the greeting, the brief with two proposal variants, the chief-of-staff persona, the opening question, and a README live in `server/src/onboarding-assets/first-task/` and load at runtime. The create route stores the assembled brief and ignores any client description. - Persona seed: an `onboardingFirstAgent` marker on the hire lets the server seed the chief-of-staff persona over the first agent's entry file. Board-authored hires only. The persona tells the agent the hire response shape and to list agents before it acts on an unclear result. - No auto-run: the first task does not queue an assignment wake. The stranded-assignment reconciler leaves it idle until a user comment or an answered card exists. - Opening card: the server seeds an `ask_user_questions` card right after the greeting with two options: "Interview me and propose a plan and an agent team to execute it." and "I have a task in mind" with free text. Answering wakes the agent. - Experimental toggle `enableFirstTaskPlanProposal` (default off): the single-task proposal is one confirmation card, or a plan document plus a checkbox card when on. - Question cards: every `ask_user_questions` card renders Cancel, Skip, and Next (the submit label on the last question). Skip hides on required questions. Picking an option no longer advances or submits by itself. - Wizard guards: the dashboard's agentless offer ignores a cached empty agent list while a refetch is in flight. The hire step adopts an agent that already carries the typed name instead of hiring "Name 2". - Agent hires are idempotent within a run: a retry of the identical request under the same run id returns the existing agent with `200` and `idempotent: true`. The fingerprint covers the whole validated request, so a corrected payload is a new hire. Lookup, create, and activity record run under one lock per company and run, so overlapping retries cannot both create. - The Paperclip Runner experimental flag defaults to on for self-hosted instances. Cloud keeps its declared default: a managed instance whose tenant row and managed overlay omit the flag resolves it to off. - Question cards: a send that finds an earlier required answer missing returns to that question with a message instead of failing silently. - The two onboarding e2e specs follow the new wizard: the front door and growth intake shots are gone, and the planning-mode spec dismisses the opening card before it reads the composer. - Docs: `docs/board-operator/editing-first-task-texts.md` explains how to edit the texts and the toggle. ## Verification Commands, run from the repo root: ``` pnpm -r --filter './packages/*' --filter '!@paperclipai/paperclip-runner' build pnpm --filter ./packages/shared typecheck pnpm --filter ./ui typecheck pnpm --filter ./server exec tsc --noEmit pnpm check:token-gates pnpm --filter ./ui exec vitest run OnboardingWizard onboarding QuestionForm InteractionCard ProtocolCard TaskChatComposer Dashboard feature PAPERCLIP_IN_WORKTREE=false pnpm --filter ./server exec vitest run onboarding-first-task heartbeat-process-recovery agent-hire-idempotency instance-settings agent-skills-routes issue-onboarding onboarding-greeting --testTimeout=90000 ``` Results on this branch: - Typecheck is clean for shared, ui, and server. - Token gates: 4 of 4 clean. - UI: 344 tests pass across 23 files. - Server: all suites pass. The first test in `agent-skills-routes` has its own 10 s cap and needs about 15 s on my laptop for the app cold start. It passes with a longer cap. This PR does not change that cap. Manual steps on a dev instance: 1. Open `/onboarding`. Confirm four steps: Name your organization, Create your first agent, Connect a model, Review. 2. Finish the wizard. Confirm the first task shows the chief-of-staff greeting and the opening card with two options. Confirm no run starts. 3. Pick "Interview me…". Confirm no run starts. Press Continue. Confirm a run starts and an interview card of 3–4 questions arrives. 4. On a fresh organization, pick "I have a task in mind", type a task, and press Continue. Confirm a proposal arrives as one confirmation card. 5. Turn on Settings → Experimental → "First task: propose with a plan document" and repeat step 4. Confirm a plan document and a checkbox card arrive. 6. Visit the dashboard after the hire. Confirm the wizard does not reopen and one agent exists. 7. Open any question card. Confirm Cancel returns the plain composer with the card still pending, Skip advances an optional question, and Next moves to the next question. Design reference with flow diagrams, chat mock-ups, and live captures: https://pages.paperclip.ing/first-task-flow/proposed/ ## Risks - `pnpm dev` now builds the runner daemon because the Paperclip Runner flag is on by default. Developers without a Rust toolchain must set `PAPERCLIP_RUNNER_BINARY` or turn the flag off. Self-hosted instances that never set the flag now let qualified agents use the runner. - The wizard drops the mission steps and their saved-progress keys. A user who is mid-wizard on an older build restarts at step 1 after an upgrade. Existing organizations are not touched. - The first task no longer runs on its own. A user who neither answers the card nor types sees no agent activity. This is intended. - The persona seed applies only to hires that carry the marker from the wizard. API hires are unchanged. - Hire idempotency is scoped to one run id and to the exact request. Retries across runs, or with a changed payload, still create a second agent. The lock is per server process, which matches how an instance serves its API. - Single-select question cards no longer submit on pick. Users of adapters that relied on that behaviour now press Next. - No database migrations. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. fix(ui): debounce recent task ordering (#13007)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The recent tasks sidebar helps operators return to active and
completed work.
> - Task detail refreshes update the activity timestamps used to sort
that list.
> - Older responses can undo newer activity. Concurrent updates can move
rows repeatedly.
> - This pull request preserves the newest observed activity and
debounces row moves.
> - Operators can select a stable row while task text and live state
stay current.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
Recent task rows can repeatedly swap positions when two tasks receive
updates. Older detail responses can also move a task below another task
after a newer comment promoted it.
**Expected behavior**
Rows remain stable during an update burst. The final activity order
appears after one second of quiet. Old responses never reduce the
recorded activity time.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Enable the streamlined UI and open multiple tasks.
2. Send alternating updates to two tasks in the recent list.
3. Observe row order while those updates arrive and while older detail
data refreshes.

Simplify app connections and enable managed Google access (#12728)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps subsystem gives humans and agents governed access to external tools. > - The current connection flow hides Apps behind an experimental gate and repeats setup text. > - Google sharing choices and generic MCP permissions do not use one consistent opening model. > - Self-hosted installs also need a safe default origin for managed OAuth without a manual config file. > - This pull request makes Apps available, simplifies connection setup, and applies one governed permissions model. > - The benefit is a shorter connection flow that works on a clean self-hosted install. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** This improves the Apps connection setup flow, managed Google connection flow, generic MCP connection flow, navigation, and runtime origin discovery. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This changes `ui/`, `server/`, `packages/shared/`, connector documentation, and browser tests. **Current behavior** Apps require an experimental switch. Setup pages repeat titles and explanatory copy. Connection names require manual input. Google credential sharing does not always offer both personal and organization access. Generic MCP providers do not start with the same permission choices. Managed OAuth needs a public URL setting even when the request already has a safe HTTPS origin. **Proposed behavior** Apps are available by default. Setup asks only for required permissions and sharing choices. Paperclip creates conflict-free connection names. Google apps and generic MCP providers use the same human and agent access model. Managed OAuth derives a validated same-origin HTTPS URL when no explicit public URL is set. **Reason and benefit** A clean self-hosted install can connect a managed Google app without hidden setup. Humans can share a service account with their organization. The shorter flow reduces duplicated choices and setup errors. **Breaking changes** The Apps experimental switch is removed. Existing connection APIs remain compatible. New connections can receive a numeric suffix when a name already exists. No duplicate or related public issue was found. ## What Changed - Removed the Apps experimental gate and the breadcrumb that leaves the Apps section. - Simplified all connection setup pages and moved optional provider requirements into one small link. - Added consistent human and agent access choices for Google apps, Zapier, and generic MCP connections. - Added organization sharing to Google Workspace credentials while keeping personal access available. - Generated connection names automatically and resolved name conflicts with numeric suffixes. - Derived a validated public HTTPS origin from the request for config-free managed OAuth. - Updated connector contracts, tests, browser coverage, and authoring documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/generic-mcp-connection.test.ts` (273 passed) - Targeted UI/service regression suite (308 passed) - Six targeted Playwright connection journeys on a fresh onboarding instance (6 passed) - Fresh-install browser proof through Tailscale HTTPS: enrolled with Paperclip Cloud, connected managed Google Drive, and completed a real read operation. - [Exact-head CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/33669760711): all 23 matrix jobs passed, including build, typecheck, server, serialized, canary, and all browser shards. - Greptile 5/5 on `0ae2a859f269984ee950d0af231a5b09a06f3dfd`, with no unresolved review threads. ## Risks Apps are now visible to all operators. Hide host-path and execution-engine surfaces in managed-sandbox-only mode (#12293)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An instance can turn on the `enableManagedSandboxOnly` feature, which hides the local environment and runs every agent in the platform-managed environment > - That feature already gated the environment pickers, the onboarding wizard, and the server-side run selection, but many other screens still showed absolute paths on the execution host and still let the user pick an execution engine > - On such an instance those controls name a filesystem the user cannot reach; a path written there is stored and then ignored, which reads as a broken control > - This pull request hides the remaining host-path and execution-engine surfaces behind the same feature, adds a server rule that refuses a project-workspace path write while the feature is on, and closes a related route gap in the isolated-workspace pages > - The benefit is that a managed instance shows no host path and no folder picker anywhere, and a write that carries a path now fails with a clear message instead of being silently discarded ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. The description below follows `.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/enhancement.yml`. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The `enableManagedSandboxOnly` instance feature, and the UI surfaces that show a host filesystem path: project properties, the new-project dialog, the project workspace and execution workspace detail pages, the workspace and task cards, plugin local folders, and the agent configuration form with its per-adapter fields. It also improves route gating for `enableIsolatedWorkspaces`. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (`ui/` and `server/`). **Current behavior** When `enableManagedSandboxOnly` is on, the local environment disappears from the environment pickers and the server refuses to run an agent on the local host. Everything else stays visible. A user still sees: - the project "Local folder" row, its absolute path, and the Set/Change/Clear buttons - the "Local folder" field and its "Choose" folder picker in the new-project dialog - the "Local path" field and fact row on a project workspace - the "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands" groups on an execution workspace - the working directory on workspace cards, task properties, and runtime service rows - the plugin "Local folders" section - "Working directory (deprecated)", "Command", "Execution engine", "ACP server command", "ACP state directory", and "Agent instructions file" in the agent configuration form A path typed into any of these names a filesystem no agent on the instance uses. The project workspace API also accepts a `cwd` write and stores it. Separately, `/workspaces`, `/execution-workspaces/*`, and `/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId` render for anyone who types or bookmarks the URL, even with `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off. Only the sidebar entry reads that flag. **Proposed behavior** With `enableManagedSandboxOnly` on, none of those surfaces render. A project whose codebase came from a managed checkout keeps its one-line "Paperclip-managed folder." label and shows no path. The non-path controls stay: repo URL, branch, service URL, port, command output, ACP session mode, ACP non-interactive permissions, Codex fast mode, and the sandbox toggles. The project-workspace create and patch routes, and the nested workspace on project create, answer `422` with "This instance runs agents only in the platform-managed environment; local folders are not configurable." when the payload carries a non-null `cwd`. A `cwd: null` write still passes, so an instance that just turned the feature on can clear a stale path. With `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off, the three workspace route groups redirect to the dashboard. **Reason and benefit** A control that cannot do anything is worse than a missing control: the user fills it in, saves, and gets no error and no effect. The server rule turns that silent no-op into a clear refusal. The route gate stops a feature that an instance has turned off from staying reachable by URL, which is the same standard the Cases, Pipelines, and hidden-settings pages already meet. **Breaking changes** None for a default instance: both flags are off by default for self-hosted and managed instances, so nothing changes unless an operator turns them on. Stored `adapterConfig` values are never cleared, so turning the feature off restores every previous value. ## What Changed - Add `ui/src/hooks/useManagedSandboxOnly.ts`, modelled on `useAppsEnabled`, for components that do not already read the experimental settings. It exposes `hideHostPaths`, which fails closed while the settings query is in flight, so a cold cache never flashes a host path before the policy resolves. Components that keep their own settings read compute the same gate from `isFetched`. - Add `managedSandboxOnly` to `AdapterConfigFieldsProps` and populate it where `AgentConfigForm` builds the adapter field props. Resolve the effective instructions-file gate once as `hideInstructionsFile || hideHostPaths`, so every adapter hides that path field with no per-adapter edit. - Hide under the flag: the project "Local folder" block and its absolute-path edit panel (a managed checkout keeps its label, without the path); the new-project "Local folder" field; the project-workspace "Local path" field and fact row; the execution-workspace "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands" groups; the working directory on the workspace summary card, the task workspace card, the task properties "Folder" row, and the runtime service rows; the plugin "Local folders" section; "Working directory (deprecated)" and "Command" in the agent form; and the per-adapter "Execution engine", "ACP server command", and "ACP state directory" for `claude_local`, `codex_local`, and `gemini_local`. - Drop two working-directory fallbacks that had no gate to read: the close-workspace dialog now falls back to "No additional details", and the reuse-existing workspace label and picker subtitle fall back to a neutral phrase. - Refuse a non-null `cwd` with `422` on `POST /projects/:id/workspaces`, `PATCH /projects/:id/workspaces/:workspaceId`, and the nested workspace on `POST /companies/:companyId/projects`, following the `assertNoAgentHostWorkspaceCommandMutation` precedent on those routes. - Add `IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate` and wrap the `/workspaces`, `/execution-workspaces/*`, and `/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId` routes with it. - Leave the SSH "Remote workspace path" and the workspace file browser alone, with a comment explaining why. ## Verification Automated: - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` — 479 of 480 files pass (4455 of 4456 tests). The one failure is `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx > renders instead of throwing when the browser denies storage access`, which also fails on `origin/master` and is unrelated to this change. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run project workspace instance-settings` — 45 of 50 files pass. Four files fail on macOS for reasons unrelated to this change: `workspace-instance-cleanup`, `workspace-runtime`, `execution-workspace-runtime-control-conflict`, and `workspace-runtime-exposure` compare `/var/...` against the resolved `/private/var/...` or bind real ports. The same files fail on a clean `master` checkout on the same machine. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `tsc --noEmit` in `server/` (after `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk ensure-build-deps`). The package `typecheck` script also builds the Rust runner, which needs `cargo`; it is not installed on the machine that ran this. New and extended tests: - `ui/src/adapters/managed-sandbox-only-config-fields.test.tsx` — the three adapters drop the execution engine, the ACP paths, the instructions-file path, and every "Choose" button when the flag is on, and keep the non-path controls. - `ui/src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx` — flag-on and flag-off renders for the working directory, the command, the engine, the ACP paths, and the resolved adapter field props. - `ui/src/components/ProjectProperties.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/NewProjectDialog.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`, `ui/src/pages/ProjectWorkspaceDetail.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/ProjectWorkspaceSummaryCard.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/WorkspaceRuntimeControls.test.tsx`. - `ui/src/components/IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate.test.tsx` — redirect when off, render when on, and render nothing while the flag query is in flight. - "Still loading" cases for the project properties, the new-project dialog, the workspace summary card, the runtime service rows, and the agent configuration form, each asserting that no host path renders before the policy resolves. - `server/src/__tests__/project-workspace-managed-sandbox-routes.test.ts` — the `422` on all three write paths, the `cwd: null` pass-through, and the flag-off pass-through. Manual check to reproduce: turn on Managed Environment Only in instance experimental settings, then open a project, the new-project dialog, an agent's configuration, and a workspace page. No path, folder icon, or "Choose" button appears. Turn the setting off and each control returns with its stored value. No documentation change was needed. The operator-facing text for both settings lives in the feature catalog entry, which already states the contract this pull request now enforces across the UI. ## Risks - Low. Both flags default to off, so a default instance is unchanged. - The hidden fields are presentation only. No stored `adapterConfig` value is cleared, because an import carries adapter configuration written on another instance and clearing it would break that flow. Turning the setting off shows every previous value again. - The `422` is the one behavior change for an API caller, and only while the setting is on. `cwd: null` still passes so a stale path can be cleared. - The route gate renders nothing until the flag query settles, so an instance with isolated workspaces on never flashes a redirect. An instance with the feature off now redirects a bookmarked workspace URL to the dashboard. - Every host-path guard fails closed while the settings query is in flight, so a default instance shows those controls a moment later than before on a cold load. That is the safe direction: the alternative flashes a path a managed instance must never show. - Two path surfaces stay on purpose, each with a comment: the SSH "Remote workspace path" is a path on the user's own remote host, and the workspace file browser shows workspace-relative paths. The instance Adapters page also keeps its "Local path" install option, since that page is an instance-admin surface the hosting operator can already hide through the hidden-settings mechanism. ## Model Used Claude (Anthropic), Claude Opus, 1M context window, extended thinking, agentic tool use through Claude Code. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat: operator-configurable settings visibility via PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS (#11823)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The instance settings surface (Access, Plugins, Adapters, General,
Experimental) assumes the person at the keyboard operates the whole
instance
> - Operators who host Paperclip for others — a managed cloud or an
internal shared server — expose settings pages and toggles that do not
apply to their deployment, and the related mutation APIs stay open
> - A hosted tenant can open Plugins or Adapters, try an action, and hit
a confusing failure, because only a few hardcoded platform floors exist
> - This pull request adds a generic, operator-configured visibility
mechanism: one env var hides declared settings surfaces in the UI and
floors their mutation routes with a stable 403 code
> - The benefit is a clean hosted-tenant settings surface for any
operator, with zero behavior change for normal self-hosted instances
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Instance settings (server routes and UI), the shared settings registry
in `packages/shared`, and the `/api/health` bootstrap payload.
**Problem or motivation**
An operator who hosts Paperclip for other people cannot hide settings
surfaces that the platform manages. Tenants see Access, Plugins, and
Adapters pages, backup retention, and host-level experimental toggles
that do nothing useful for them. The mutation APIs behind these surfaces
also stay open, so a tenant admin can attempt actions the platform must
control. ROADMAP.md names a cleaner shared deployment story as a goal
("Teams should be able to run the same product in hosted or semi-hosted
environments without changing the mental model").
**Proposed solution**
Add a declarative registry of hideable settings surfaces and one env
var, `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS`. The server parses the list at boot,
reports it on `/api/health`, and rejects value-changing writes to hidden
surfaces with a stable `settings_operator_managed` 403 code. The UI
reads the list from the health payload and removes the hidden pages,
sections, and toggles from navigation, routes, and page content. Unknown
keys warn and are ignored, so one list can roll across a fleet with
mixed app versions. With the variable unset, behavior is byte-identical
to today.
**Alternatives considered**
- Hardcode the hidden set for cloud instances in this repo: rejected,
because each hosting operator needs a different policy, and policy does
not belong in shared code.
- Deliver the hidden set through the managed-config document: rejected,
because that channel is cloud-specific and fail-closed on unknown
fields; a plain env var works for any operator, including self-hosted
shared servers.
- Lock the controls with a badge instead of hiding them: rejected for
these surfaces, because they are meaningless to tenants, not merely
platform-controlled; the existing managed-overlay lock stays the right
tool for controlled flags.
**Roadmap alignment**
Supports the "shared deployment story" item in ROADMAP.md: hosted and
semi-hosted deployments keep the same product with a settings surface
that matches what the tenant can actually do.
## What Changed
- New `packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.ts`: registry of hideable
surfaces (every instance settings page — profile, environments, access,
heartbeats, experimental, plugins, adapters; every Instance → General
section; every experimental flag as `instance.experimental.<key>`), the
`PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` parser, and the `settings_operator_managed`
error code. The General page stays visible as the settings root and
redirect target.
- New `server/src/services/settings-visibility.ts`: parse-once accessor;
unknown keys log one warning and are ignored.
- `/api/health` reports `hiddenSettings` on every response shape; the
field is omitted when nothing is hidden.
- Server floors on hidden surfaces, with same-value echo tolerance (the
`executionMode` precedent): field-backed general sections and
experimental keys reject value-changing PATCHes, and hiding the whole
Experimental page floors every toggle; plugin lifecycle and config
writes, adapter management writes, and the Access admin routes (reads
included) return 403 `settings_operator_managed`. Reads the app itself
needs (plugin `ui-contributions`, adapter metadata, plugin job trigger)
stay open. Pages without instance-scoped mutation routes are hidden in
the UI only.
- UI: new `useHiddenSettings` hook and `HiddenSettingsPageGate` route
gate (hidden pages redirect to the settings root); the settings sidebar
and tab bar drop hidden entries; remembered settings paths remap to the
default page; `InstanceGeneralSettings` skips hidden sections; every
`ExperimentalToggleCard` now carries its flag key and renders nothing
when hidden.
- Removed the dead `InstanceSidebar` component (referenced only by its
own test).
- Docs: `docs/deploy/environment-variables.md` documents the variable
and the key registry.
## Verification
- `pnpm vitest run` over the new and extended suites: shared registry
and parser, representative floor tests per route class (changed-value
403, same-value echo 200, unset env 200, page-level Experimental
hiding), the health field, the route gate, nav filtering, and
section/card hiding with one hidden example per surface kind — 168 tests
pass.
- Full root `pnpm typecheck` passes.
- Manual: booted a server with the variable set. `/api/health` lists the
keys; an unknown key logs one warning and the server boots; hidden pages
redirect; hidden sections and cards do not render; hidden-field PATCH
returns 403 with `details.code = "settings_operator_managed"`; a
same-value echo returns 200. Unset the variable: the full settings
surface returns and responses are byte-identical to master.
## Risks
- Low risk for self-hosted instances: with the variable unset, the
hidden set is empty, the health field is omitted, and no floor
activates.
- Flooring plugin config writes assumes hosted deployments configure
plugins through the platform. If a future bundled plugin needs
tenant-entered config, the floor needs a narrow carve-out.
- Hidden-key floors tolerate same-value echoes, so API clients that
round-trip full GET responses keep working.
- Hiding a toggle does not change its value; operators pair hiding with
the desired default where the value matters.

refactor(ui): retire the shared-cache reasoning the account key made obsolete (#11507)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Three places in the UI turn the company list into an authorization verdict: the invite landing page, the onboarding draft gate, and company auto-selection > - Each grew a defense when one `["companies"]` cache entry answered for every account, and each documented that hazard at length > - #11488 keyed the entry by account, so the hazard those comments describe can no longer happen > - The comments stayed, and a comment that describes a trap that no longer exists is how the next reader removes a mechanism that is still holding something up > - This pull request replaces that reasoning with what the mechanisms actually do now, and removes the one condition that genuinely went dead > - The benefit is that the next person to simplify these gates has accurate reasons to work from ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. Follow-up to #11488, #11430 and #11417. The problem follows. **What happened?** The three gates were written against a shared, account-less company cache. #11488 keyed that entry by account, which made the documented hazard impossible — but the documentation stayed. Each gate now carries a long explanation of a cross-account leak that the key prevents, while the mechanism it explains is in fact still required for a different and unrelated reason. That is a maintenance hazard in a specific direction: a reader who checks the comment against the code concludes the mechanism is obsolete, removes it, and reintroduces a failure the comment never mentioned. **Expected behavior** The reasoning next to each gate describes why the gate is there now. **Steps to reproduce** Read the comment above `ownershipDecidable` in `OnboardingWizard.tsx` against `master`. It justifies `isSuccess` on the grounds that "after an account switch the retained value is the previous account's list", which the account-keyed entry makes impossible. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `0817fbad9`. ## What Changed - `ui/src/pages/InviteLanding.tsx` — dropped the `Boolean(sessionQuery.data)` conjunct from `membershipListIsCurrent`; rewrote the comment. - `ui/src/components/OnboardingWizard.tsx` — replaced the shared-cache explanation above the ownership gate with the reason the gate still exists. - `ui/src/hooks/useSignOut.ts` — corrected the sweep's rationale, which cited the company list as its example of data the next account could read. ### The one dead condition `membershipListIsCurrent` tested `Boolean(sessionQuery.data) && companiesQuery.isFetchedAfterMount`. The first term cannot be false when the second is true: the query is `enabled` only while a session exists, so the flag cannot be set without one. The lapsed-session case it looked like it covered is covered by the keying instead — the observer re-keys to the anonymous entry and holds no data to leak. Tests pass with it removed, but that only shows no test distinguishes it, which is why the reasoning above is recorded in the code rather than left for the next reader to redo. ### What is deliberately kept Each gate turned out to be load-bearing for a reason that has nothing to do with accounts: - **InviteLanding** still waits for a list fetched this mount. A pending query reads as an empty list, which reads as "not a member", which auto-accepts an invite the customer may already hold. - **OnboardingWizard** still forces a fetch with `staleTime: 0`. A cached list is the right account's but can be thirty seconds old, so a company created moments ago in another tab is missing from it — and missing reads as "you do not own this", which *deletes* the draft rather than withholding it. - **CompanyProvider** still clears the live selection on an account change. That is component state and does not change key with the query. Removing them as redundant is the mistake the stale comments invited; this change is what makes that argument harder to make by accident. ## Verification - `pnpm tsc -b` in `ui`: clean. - `InviteLanding.test.tsx`, `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`, `CompanyContext.test.tsx`, `useSignOut.test.tsx`, `companies-query.test.ts`: **67 passed**, run twice. No behaviour change is claimed and none is intended: the only non-comment edit is the removal of a condition that cannot alter the expression's value. **Not done:** no browser run. Nothing here is observable at runtime. ## Risks Low. Comments, plus one condition shown to be unreachable-false. The risk that remains is a documentation risk in the other direction: if the keying is ever reverted or bypassed, these comments will understate what the gates protect against. They name #11488 so that connection is findable. **This does not close the class.** Account-scoped entries other than the list — `["companies", id]`, stats, and the rest — still survive an account change that skips the sign-out button. That is unclaimed work, and larger than this. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), through Claude Code. Extended thinking enabled. refactor(ui): record why sign-out resets rather than removes (#11473)
Comment only. Salvaged from `claude/sign-out-cache-note`, written while #11380 was in progress and never opened as a PR; that branch is deleted with this. #11380 landed the reasoning for `resetQueries` but not the evidence, and not the part that stops someone reversing it later. The choice was measured rather than argued. Against query-core 5.101.4, removal produced 0 notifications and left the observer holding the signed-out account's session; reset produced 3 and null. The consequence of the former is not only a stale read - CloudAccessGate's redirect fires on the session going empty, so it never runs. The opposite advice really does hold for a local reset of a key an observer is still mounted against: reset rewinds the update counters `isFetchedAfterMount` derives from while that observer keeps its bind-time baseline, so anything gated on the flag withholds forever. Sign-out is not that case, because it resets the session too and the consumer unmounts on the redirect. Two sessions reached opposite recommendations on this API within a day, both correct about different situations, which is the kind of thing a later reader re-litigates without a note in the file. The first revision of this note named the wrong consumers - InviteLanding and the onboarding draft gate, neither of which reads `isFetchedAfterMount`. `AppsConnect` is the only one on master and is what it names now. ui typecheck clean; 13 pass across the sign-out suites. fix(ui): clear account-scoped query caches on sign-out (#11380)
Sign-out invalidated two query keys - the auth session and health - and left everything else in the cache. `invalidateQueries` also keeps serving the old data while it refetches, so it was insufficient even for the two it did touch. The company list was never touched at all, which is how one account's companies could still be in hand when the next account signed in. The self-hosted path now resets every account-scoped entry. Scoping is an allowlist of instance-scoped roots rather than a list of things to clear, so a query key added later is account-scoped unless someone deliberately says otherwise - forgetting this file fails closed. `health` is the only exemption. It carries deployment mode, bootstrap state and Cloud metadata, nothing account-scoped, and `useCloudInstance` observes it with `enabled: false` and leaves the fetch to CloudAccessGate. Dropping the entry would strand every such observer on `null` until the gate happened to refetch, flipping Cloud instances into their self-hosted rendering mid sign-out. It is refreshed in place instead. `resetQueries` rather than `removeQueries`: removal empties the cache without notifying the observers already subscribed, so a mounted `useQuery` keeps returning its last result until an unrelated re-render rebuilds it. CompanyProvider sits above the router and stays mounted across the whole sign-out and sign-in cycle, so that is the common case here rather than a corner one. Reset notifies them, so the old data leaves the cache and everything reading it. The cloud path is untouched: it is a top-level navigation, and the document reload builds a new QueryClient with nothing left to clear. This is the root cause behind the onboarding draft-ownership gate added in #11382. That gate stays, and its comment now says why: this fix covers the sign-out button, not the question. An account can change without it - a session lapsing server-side, a second account signing in on a warm tab, a caller supplying the company context from somewhere else - so the gate stays independent rather than deferring to this. ui typecheck clean; full ui suite 4014 pass, with only the timezone-dependent IssueProperties failure already present on master. fix(onboarding): carry an existing company's mission into the wizard (#11416)
Ports the substance of #11259, which predated the recent onboarding work and was still open. One of the parts it solves is a regression #11352 introduced. A company that already has its mission opens on the agent step, which is the point of #11352. What that missed is that the mission field is filled only by the step being skipped, and that the field is not decoration: `composeCeoInstructions` seeds the lead agent's instructions from it, and the Review checklist reads it. So every Cloud-seeded company hired its lead agent with no Mission line at all, having been routed there precisely *because* it had a mission. Before #11352 those companies dead-ended on the mission step; a dead end became a quiet data loss, which is worse, because it completes. `selectExistingCompanyMission` reads the company's own goal back into the shape the mission field holds, and the wizard hydrates from it - only when the field is empty, so a customer editing their mission is never overwritten by the stored copy. The marker recording that hydration travels with the field it describes, cleared wherever `companyGoal` is. `isExistingCompanyMissionUnresolved` holds the hire while that read is outstanding, counting an in-flight refetch over cached goals as unresolved. That is the rule #11382 settled on a day earlier for a different consumer - `isFetching`, not `isLoading`, because retained data is not an answer to the question being asked now. #11259 had it first, on 11 August. `canGoBackFromOnboardingStep` and `canJumpToOnboardingStep` bound how far back a run can walk by the step it entered on. The Back button already applied that rule inline; the progress bar applied only the "already completed" half, so a run holding a company could still jump to step 1 - the step whose job is to create one. The entry step is captured once, when the wizard opens, for the same reason the step itself is. `planMissionPersistence` came with them and turned out to be required rather than tidying. Hydration sets `createdCompanyGoalId` from the company's existing goal, and confirming the mission read that id as "already written" and skipped the write, discarding the customer's edit. That skip was safe only while the id could arrive one way - by writing. A goal in hand now means update it. Each piece was checked by removing it and confirming a specific case fails. The hydration case asserts on `saveInstructionsFile`'s content, the actual consumer, rather than on the mission textarea, because the entry path never renders that field and the navigation bound now prevents reaching it. One caveat recorded rather than smoothed over: the reopen case fails only when both marker-clears are removed, since `reset()` also clears the company id and the next introduction routes through `clearCompanyScopedState`. They are kept as one invariant rather than one guard plus a coincidence. ui typecheck clean; full ui suite 4004 pass. Two failures remain, in IssueProperties and StatusCards/format; both are date-dependent, both reproduce on master with these changes stashed, and neither file is touched here.
