test(ui): finish sidebar focus cleanup before JSDOM teardown (#15255)
Finish deferred Radix focus cleanup before the sidebar test environment closes. Use React act and controlled timers, check the real unmount focus events for both menus, and assert no timer work remains. Validation: all 7,368 UI tests, repository typecheck and build passed. Hosted CI passed, including server tests, browser tests and canary packaging. Greptile 5/5 on the exact reviewed head; no unresolved comments. Local full-suite limitations and clean-base comparisons are recorded in the PR. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): gate built-in agent sidebar query (#10116)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open-source control plane people use to manage AI agents and their work. > - The sidebar renders company agents and, when enabled, their built-in lifecycle state. > - The built-in-agents API is intentionally unavailable when the experimental feature is disabled. > - `SidebarAgents` nevertheless queried that endpoint whenever a company was selected, producing routine 404s in normal feature-off installations. > - The query must be gated by the shared instance setting, including its unresolved state, without exposing stale cached lifecycle badges. > - This pull request adds that gate and focused disabled, unresolved, and enabled regressions. > - The benefit is a quiet sidebar network path with unchanged behavior for installations that enable built-in agents. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Pre-submission checklist - [x] I searched existing open and closed issues/PRs and found no exact duplicate. Related but not duplicate: #4149. - [x] I reproduced this on current `master`. - [x] I confirmed the error originates in Paperclip's sidebar query gating, not an adapter, provider, or local configuration. ### What happened? With `enableBuiltInAgents: false`, mounting `SidebarAgents` for a selected company still called `GET /api/companies/:companyId/built-in-agents`. The server correctly returned 404 because the experimental feature was disabled. ### Expected behavior The sidebar must not call the built-in-agent endpoint until the shared experimental setting resolves to exactly `true`. Cached built-in lifecycle state must also remain hidden while disabled. ### Steps to reproduce 1. Set `enableBuiltInAgents` to `false`. 2. Open any company so the sidebar agent list mounts. 3. Observe a request to `/api/companies/:companyId/built-in-agents` and a 404 response. ### Environment - Paperclip commit: `f2f168f6a10a24c924516808f414baba52b1c080` - Deployment mode: self-hosted server - Installation method: built from source - Adapter: not adapter-specific (core UI bug) - Database mode: not database-related - Access context: board (human operator) - Node.js: `v22.22.3` - Operating system: Linux - Relevant config: `{"enableBuiltInAgents": false}` - Relevant output: redacted HTTP 404 from `/api/companies/:companyId/built-in-agents` - Privacy: all instance-local identifiers, paths, and output were omitted or redacted. ## What Changed - Read instance experimental settings in `SidebarAgents` through the shared React Query key. - Enable the built-in-agent list query only when `enableBuiltInAgents` is explicitly `true`. - Ignore cached built-in lifecycle data while the feature is disabled. - Add regressions for disabled, unresolved, and enabled settings states. ## Verification - RED before implementation: the disabled-feature regression failed because `builtInAgentsApi.list` was called once. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx` — 24 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec tsc -p tsconfig.json --pretty false` — passed. - `git diff --check` — passed. - The existing test file emits pre-existing React `act(...)` warnings while passing. ## Risks - Low risk: request gating only; no API, schema, migration, or visible UI contract changes. - A stale experimental-settings cache could delay enabling the query until the normal settings invalidation/refetch path runs; this is the same shared query key already used elsewhere. - Cached built-in statuses are deliberately hidden whenever the setting is not literal `true`. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex `gpt-5.6-sol` was used with reasoning, repository/file tools, shell command execution, and delegated read-only code review. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (no documentation change needed; this enforces the existing feature flag) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: cucurigoo <cucurigoo@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(server): add per-user document stars (#9952)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies and their work. > - Artifacts and documents are first-class outputs, but users need a personal way to keep important documents easy to find. > - Existing resource memberships already model per-user starred projects and agents with company scoping and activity logging. > - Documents lacked the equivalent membership model, route, and artifact filtering behavior. > - The shared membership contract also needs to remain safe for existing UI project/agent mutation helpers when documents become a recognized resource type. > - This pull request extends the existing resource-membership system with per-user document stars and a starred artifacts view. > - The benefit is a company-scoped, idempotent server foundation for a dedicated starred-documents experience without weakening authorization or artifact filtering semantics. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Problem / Motivation Board users cannot star individual documents, and the company artifacts API cannot return only the current user's starred documents. ### Proposed Solution Add company/user-scoped document memberships, a board-only document star route, document membership data in the shared contract, and a `starred=true` artifacts filter. ### Alternatives Considered A document column was rejected because stars are per-user; a separate star API was rejected because projects and agents already use resource memberships. ### Roadmap Alignment This extends the existing Artifacts & Work Products roadmap area and does not duplicate another open pull request found in the repository search. ## What Changed - Added the `document_memberships` schema and migration with company/user/document uniqueness and starred ordering. - Extended shared resource-membership and artifact-query contracts for documents and `starred=true`. - Added company-scoped document star/unstar service and board-only route behavior with activity logging. - Added starred document artifact filtering, including user-authored documents, document kinds, cursor ordering, and incompatible-kind handling. - Preserved idempotency under concurrent star requests and synchronized UI membership defaults/helpers with the expanded contract. - Added focused shared, route, service, and UI regression coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/resource-memberships.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-artifacts-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/resource-memberships-routes.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarStarredProjects.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - The migration adds a new membership table and non-concurrent indexes; migration safety gates pass with the repository's established policy. - The starred artifacts query intentionally returns only documents and relaxes the normal agent-authored/system-kind predicates for documents the current user explicitly starred. - Document membership mutations remain board-user-only; agent callers receive no document-star capability. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex CLI; runtime model ID and context-window size were not exposed to this session. Reasoning, repository tool use, code execution, and test execution were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): stop polling the event-sourced company live-runs list (#9701)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its web UI keeps live views fresh with a live-events websocket plus React Query, and #9627 began replacing polling with event-sourcing (pushing data into the cache) > - After the churn fixes (#9624) and #9627 shipped, a long-lived tab's memory footprint was still climbing, so I re-profiled with the Chrome DevTools MCP > - The dominant remaining churn is React Query re-arming a polled query's `refetchInterval` timer on **every** observer notification — and our live-event handlers `setQueryData(liveRuns(companyId))` on nearly every event, so each pushed update re-arms every `liveRuns` observer's timer (the sidebar is always mounted) > - #9627 event-sourced the live-runs data but left the now-redundant `refetchInterval` in place, so we did half the fix — the poll is pure waste and the thing re-arming timers > - This pull request removes `refetchInterval` from the event-sourced company live-runs queries so the frequent cache writes have no timer to re-arm > - The benefit is that the steady-state timer churn on the most-observed resource collapses, so the off-heap footprint stops climbing ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists; describing inline per CONTRIBUTING.md → "Link Issues or Describe Them In-PR", following the bug report template. Continues #9569 / #9624 / #9627. **What happened?** With the earlier fixes deployed, a browser tab left open on the app kept growing its memory footprint. MCP profiling showed ~100+ `setInterval` create/clear cycles per 5s on an aged tab (vs ~16 fresh), all from React Query's refetch-interval timers being re-armed on every `setQueryData` to the frequently-written `liveRuns(companyId)` query. **Expected behavior** A resource whose data is pushed (event-sourced) should not also poll; cache writes should not repeatedly re-arm interval timers. Idle tabs should hold a bounded footprint. **Steps to reproduce** Open a tab with agents streaming, leave it open, and instrument `setInterval`/`clearInterval`: the churn rate climbs and traces to `QueryObserver.updateTimers` (`refetchInterval`) for `liveRuns`, re-armed by every live-event cache write. **Paperclip version or commit** Branch `perf/drop-live-runs-refetch-interval`, off `master` (after #9627). **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`), web UI. Core UI live-updates plumbing; not adapter-specific. ## What Changed - Set `refetchInterval: false` on every site that polls the **plain** `queryKeys.liveRuns(companyId)` query (event-sourced by #9627): `Sidebar`, `SidebarAgents`, `Issues`, `Inbox`, `IssueDetail` (companyLiveRuns), `ProjectDetail` (×2), `Routines`, `ExecutionWorkspaceDetail`, `bridge-init`. - Removed the now-unused `useVisibilityRefetchInterval` interval vars/imports in `Issues`, `Inbox`, `IssueDetail`. - **Left variant-key sites polling on purpose** — `Agents` page (`[...liveRuns, "agents-page"]`) and `ActiveAgentsPanel` (`[...liveRuns, scope, …]`) are NOT event-sourced by #9627 (different exact cache key), so dropping their poll would make them stale. Those are a later phase. - Freshness for the converted queries now comes from event-sourcing (#9627) + its reconnect reconcile; the initial mount fetch and cross-tab publish (`usePublishSharedQueryData`) still happen. ## Verification - MCP profiling identified the churn: the single churning callback is React Query's `refetchInterval` timer, re-armed by `setQueryData(liveRuns)` on live events. - `vitest`: all affected suites pass (`Sidebar`, `SidebarAgents`, `Issues`, `Inbox`, `IssueDetail`, `ProjectDetail`, `Routines`, `ExecutionWorkspaceDetail`, `LiveUpdatesProvider`) — 153 tests. - Updated two `SidebarAgents` linger-window tests: they advanced fake timers to the *exact* linger-expiry boundary and had relied on poll-induced re-renders to flush. The linger self-schedules its own `setTimeout`, so the tests now cross the boundary with a small margin + an explicit flush (no product change). - `tsc -b` clean. - End-to-end footprint reduction should be re-measured against a rebuilt bundle with the same instrumentation. ## Risks Low, client-only. - `liveRuns(companyId)` freshness now depends entirely on event-sourcing + reconnect reconcile (both from #9627). If an event path is missed, the reconnect handler refetches once; durable replay is a planned later phase. - Variant-key run lists (Agents page, ActiveAgentsPanel) are unchanged and still poll, so they don't regress. - Issue-scoped run queries (`issues.liveRuns/activeRun/runs`) are **not** touched here — they aren't event-sourced yet and are a separate phase. ## Model Used - **Provider:** Anthropic, via the Claude Code CLI. - **Model:** Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`). - **Reasoning mode:** Extended thinking enabled. - **Capabilities used:** tool use (shell, file editing), and the Chrome DevTools MCP to re-profile the live instance and pinpoint the `refetchInterval` timer churn. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work (a perf/plumbing change) - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above (continues #9627; no duplicates) - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (N/A — no user-facing docs; rationale documented inline) - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) |

Fix agent sidebar liveness churn (#9358)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI includes an agents sidebar so operators can see which agents are currently active. > - That sidebar depends on live-run polling, heartbeat events, and cross-tab cache sharing to stay current without overloading the API. > - The sidebar was visually churning because agents could leave the live section immediately after a run ended, while progress events and cross-tab broadcasts kept forcing hot query updates. > - This pull request stabilizes live sidebar membership and makes shared polling broadcasts monotonic/deduplicated. > - The benefit is a calmer operator sidebar that still reflects real live state without flashing between stale and fresh snapshots. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this operator-facing bug. Bug summary: - What happened: the agents sidebar could flash or reshuffle around active agents while live-run and heartbeat data was updating. - Expected behavior: active and recently-active agents should remain visually stable, and cross-tab cache sharing should not overwrite fresher data with older snapshots. - Reproduction context: run Paperclip with multiple tabs or rapid live-run/progress updates and watch the agents sidebar while agents enter/leave live execution. - Deployment mode: local/operator board UI. Related PR: - Supersedes #9357, which carried the same fixes on a branch/title/body that were not suitable for public contribution hygiene. ## What Changed - Restored the maintainer-only warning wording in the developer skill guide so the existing server skill-utils CI gate passes on current master. - Added a 120-second linger window for streamlined sidebar agent rows so an agent does not immediately disappear from the live section as soon as its last run ends. - Deferred the recent-agent fallback until there are no live or lingering agents, while keeping the live badge tied only to actually-live runs. - Stopped broad live-runs/heartbeats/agents-list invalidation on every run progress event, while preserving targeted agent-detail invalidation. - Added producer timestamps to cross-tab shared polling result messages so older-or-equal snapshots are dropped before `setQueryData`. - Added per-resource broadcast dedupe/rate limiting so tabs do not rebroadcast equivalent cached data in a loop. - Added focused coverage for sidebar linger behavior, staggered multi-agent linger expiry, live update invalidation scope, shared polling timestamp handling, and cross-tab broadcast dedupe. ## Verification Run locally on the rebased PR branch: - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` — 44 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/lib/cross-tab-poll.test.ts src/hooks/useSharedPolling.test.ts` — 10 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — exit code 0. ## Risks - Low migration risk: the sidebar/polling changes are UI/client cache behavior only, with no database or API contract changes. - Sidebar visibility now intentionally lingers for 120 seconds after the last live run; stale rows could remain briefly visible, but their live badge is removed when they are no longer actually live. - Cross-tab broadcasts are now more conservative; a missed publish should be corrected by the next normal poll or accepted newer timestamp. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 Codex via the Paperclip Codex coding-agent runtime; exact API model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this environment. The agent used terminal/tool execution for repository inspection, focused tests, branch preparation, and PR creation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): inbox/task list parity, nesting alignment, hover perf, and routine detail polish (#9317)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip's UI is governed by the design system merged in #9134 and the component convergence in #9240 — one Card, one Badge, one nav row, one `IssueRow`, a single multiplicative radius ladder. > - With those primitives in place, the remaining rough edges were interaction and alignment details on the surfaces people use every day: the inbox, the task list, the sidebar, and the routine/task detail pages. > - Each item here was reported from live use and fixed against a running instance, then verified by measurement (pixel alignment, frame timing) rather than by eye alone. > - The result is that the inbox and task lists now behave as one system (same hover, keyboard nav, tree-guide, and archive language), list nesting reads correctly, list hover is smooth, and the routine detail page scrolls and aligns like the rest of the app. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this work; describing per the feature template. - **Problem**: after the design-system foundation (#9134) and component convergence (#9240), the inbox/task lists still had interaction and alignment gaps — hover lag on long lists, keyboard navigation that only partly matched between the two lists, workspace/parent nesting whose guides and chevrons didn't line up, an inbox that sat offset from the task list, and a routine detail page with an odd double-scroll and a bespoke sub-nav. - **Proposed behavior**: the inbox and task lists share one interaction contract (hover, keyboard nav, collapse, archive), list nesting aligns to the status column with clean chevrons, list hover is CSS-only (no per-hover re-render), and the routine detail page uses a fixed header/sub-nav with a single scrolling content region and a sub-nav that matches the primary nav. ## What Changed - **List hover performance**: hover is now painted purely by CSS `:hover` and records the hovered row in a ref, instead of writing list-selection state on every `mouseenter` (which re-rendered 100–300 non-memoized rows per hover). Keyboard nav reads the ref so it still continues from the hovered row; the keyboard band clears on the first real mouse move so hover and keyboard selection never show two bands at once. The row's `transition-colors` fade was removed so the highlight snaps (no comet-tail). Measured on a 100-row scrub: worst frame **333 ms → 33 ms**, long frames (>50 ms) **12 → 0**, avg **41 → 60 fps**. - **Inbox ↔ task-list parity**: keyboard navigation works on every inbox tab (archive/read keys stay scoped to the archivable tab); group headers and parent tasks collapse/expand with the arrow keys in both lists; the task list gains the same j/k / arrows / Enter selection model as the inbox; hover selection bands match; the `g` then `i` go-to-inbox chord works app-wide. - **List nesting & alignment**: the workspace group-header chevron lines up exactly with the task chevrons below it (both lists); the parent→child connector line drops from under the parent's **status icon** rather than its chevron and breaks with a 14px gap around a nested row's own chevron; and inbox rows line up with the task list (read rows no longer reserve a mark-read column). - **Inbox archive affordance**: moved from a bare `x` left of the status icon to an `Archive` icon + label button on the right (before the timestamp), revealed on row hover; the left slot now carries only the unread dot; swipe-to-archive is unchanged. - **Sidebar**: when no agent has a live run, the AGENTS section shows 3 recent agents (was 5) plus "See all agents"; the working-agents view is unchanged. - **Routine detail page**: the layout is bounded to the main scroll area so the header (Run now + automation toggle) and the sub-nav stay fixed and only the section content scrolls (was a page-level scroll competing with a `sticky` sub-nav). The sub-nav items adopt the primary nav's rhythm — row padding/height, inset rounded pill, type scale, and 16px icons — and its background matches the main nav. - **Task detail**: dropped the redundant `🔵` prefix the breadcrumb added for live/in-progress tasks; the status glyph already conveys that state. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` → 3/3 CLEAN - `pnpm typecheck` → green (all packages) - `cd ui && npx vitest run` → 2255/2255 (assertions updated in lockstep where behavior changed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` → exit 0 - Storybook visual regression: run locally throughout (the baseline-manifest archive is still unpublished, so CI cannot run this suite — pre-existing condition from #9134). Every visible delta was reviewed against a live instance and, where it was intentional (nesting alignment, routine sub-nav restyle, unread-row shift), the affected snapshots were re-baselined locally. - Manual/measured: inbox + task lists (grouped and nested, light + dark), hover-scrub frame timing, keyboard navigation, and the routine detail scroll/alignment were exercised on a running instance. ## Risks - Behavior-and-alignment changes concentrated in `IssueRow` / `IssuesList` / `Inbox` (the shared task-row surfaces). The riskiest area — the hover/keyboard-selection model — is covered by unit tests (updated in lockstep) and was measured and driven live. - The routine detail scroll change restructures that page's layout container; verified the page's own scroll stays fixed while only the section content scrolls. - The visual suite cannot yet run in CI (unpublished baseline archive — pre-existing); snapshot coverage is local-only until that lands. ## Model Used - Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic) via Claude Code — agentic coding with tool use (file editing, test execution, Playwright measurement/screenshot verification); extended thinking enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

[codex] Add starred resource sidebar controls (#9085)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI is the main daily navigation surface for agents, projects, and their related resources. > - Operators need a lightweight way to keep frequently used agents and projects close without changing company-wide ordering or ownership. > - Resource memberships already model per-user relationships to projects and agents, so they are the right place to store user-specific starred state. > - This pull request extends that membership contract with a starred timestamp and exposes star controls in list/detail views. > - The sidebar then uses those starred memberships to show compact, user-specific shortcuts. > - The benefit is faster navigation without introducing a separate favorites system or leaking preferences across users. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists. Feature request: ## Problem or motivation Users cannot pin frequently used agents or projects into the main sidebar. Returning to important resources requires scanning full project/agent lists or navigating through detail pages, which adds friction to repeated daily workflows. ## Proposed solution Store a per-user `starred_at` timestamp on agent and project memberships, expose API actions to set or clear that state, add star toggle controls to list/detail pages, and render starred projects and agents as compact sidebar shortcuts. ## Alternatives considered A separate favorites table would work, but it would duplicate membership scoping and require another resource relationship model. Keeping starred state on memberships preserves existing company/user boundaries and avoids a second source of truth. ## Roadmap alignment Checked `ROADMAP.md`; no overlapping planned core work for starred resource/sidebar navigation was found. ## Additional context The affected subsystems are `packages/db`, `packages/shared`, `server/`, and `ui/`. The migration is idempotent with `IF NOT EXISTS` guards so environments that saw an earlier local migration name can still apply the final ordered migration safely. ## What Changed - Added idempotent migration `0133_resource_membership_stars` for `starred_at` columns and lookup indexes on agent/project memberships. - Extended shared resource membership types and validators with starred metadata and actions. - Updated server resource membership services/routes to read and mutate starred resource state. - Added reusable star toggle UI and resource membership hook support for starred state. - Added starred projects and agents sidebar rendering, plus star controls on list and detail pages. - Added focused shared, server, and UI coverage for starred membership behavior and sidebar rendering. ## Verification - Rebased and force-with-lease pushed current PR head `a086fc965391c9e50a51b5b83b5b44a797b2a6f4` onto current `paperclipai/paperclip:master`; `gh pr view` reports `MERGEABLE` with no merge conflicts. GitHub checks are green for this fresh head. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/resource-memberships.test.ts server/src/__tests__/resource-memberships-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarStarredProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/StarToggle.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx` passed after the rebase: 8 files, 143 tests. - Greptile re-review is 5/5; the remaining screenshot thread was resolved as non-blocking because this task explicitly requested no screenshots/images in the PR. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarStarredProjects.test.tsx` passed after the mobile pending-spinner fix. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/resource-memberships.test.ts server/src/__tests__/resource-memberships-routes.test.ts ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarStarredProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/StarToggle.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx` passed: 7 files, 68 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed db/shared/server, then failed in pre-existing UI code outside this PR: `src/pages/CompanyEnvironments.tsx` missing `@xterm/*` type declarations and `previous` possibly null. - Checked that the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows` changes. - Checked `ROADMAP.md` and found no overlapping planned core work for starred resource/sidebar navigation. - Searched existing GitHub PRs for duplicate starred-resource/sidebar work and found none. ## Risks - Migration touches membership tables. The SQL uses `IF NOT EXISTS` for columns and indexes so environments that saw an earlier local migration name can still apply this safely. - Sidebar ordering and visibility changes could affect users who rely on the previous flat sidebar layout. - Starred state is per-user membership metadata; code paths must continue preserving company/user scoping around memberships. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(ui): add collapsible sidebar rail and takeover panes (#7824)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI agents, work, and company context. > - The board UI sidebar is the main way operators keep orientation across companies, projects, agents, issues, and settings. > - The existing fixed expanded sidebar competes with route-specific navigation, especially company settings and plugin routes that bring their own contextual sidebar. > - A collapsible primary rail preserves global navigation while giving contextual pages more horizontal room. > - This pull request adds a persisted collapsed rail, hover/focus peek, keyboard toggle, and a secondary sidebar takeover model for settings and plugin `routeSidebar` surfaces. > - The benefit is a denser board shell that keeps the app rail available without replacing it when a route needs its own navigation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Paperclip issue: PAP-10638 Create collapsible sidebar branch. Related GitHub PR found during duplicate search: #3838 (`feat/collapsible-sidebar`) covers a similar sidebar area but is a different head branch and implementation. This PR intentionally packages the work from `PAP-10638-collapsable-sidebar` into one reviewable branch. Problem description: The board shell needs a first-class collapsed sidebar mode. Contextual surfaces such as company settings and plugin route sidebars should not replace the global app sidebar; they should collapse the app sidebar to a rail and render their contextual navigation beside it. ## What Changed - Added desktop collapsed/sidebar-peek state to `SidebarContext`, including persisted user pins, route collapse requests, and forced collapse for secondary-sidebar routes. - Replaced the old resizable sidebar pane with `SidebarShell`, which supports a fixed 64px rail, persisted expanded width, keyboard/pointer resizing, and hover/focus peek overlay behavior. - Updated `Sidebar`, sidebar nav items, project/agent sections, badges, and account/company menu presentation for expanded, collapsed, and peeking states. - Added `RequestCollapsedSidebar` and `SecondarySidebar` so routes and plugin `routeSidebar` slots can request contextual sidebar layouts without replacing the primary app sidebar. - Wired company settings and plugin route sidebars into the secondary-pane takeover model. - Added focused Vitest coverage for sidebar state precedence, shell sizing, nav item rail rendering, keyboard shortcuts, layout takeover behavior, and route collapse requests. - Updated plugin authoring docs/spec references for route sidebar behavior. ## Verification Targeted local verification passed: ```sh NODE_ENV=test pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/context/SidebarContext.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarShell.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/components/RequestCollapsedSidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarNavItem.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/KeyboardShortcutsCheatsheet.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ``` Result: 10 test files passed, 88 tests passed. Additional follow-up verification passed after review fixes: ```sh NODE_ENV=test pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/context/SidebarContext.test.tsx && pnpm --filter /ui typecheck ``` Result: 2 test files passed, 28 tests passed, and UI typecheck passed. Latest PR-head remote checks: Paperclip PR workflow, Snyk, Socket, and Greptile are green; commitperclip `review` is cancelled in its security-gate step after filing a non-blocking neutral `security-review` check. Notes: - A direct run without `NODE_ENV=test` loads React's production build in this workspace, where `act` is unavailable; the command above matches the repo stable runner's test environment. - I did not run Playwright/browser e2e or full workspace build/typecheck in this PR-creation heartbeat. - QA screenshots are attached in https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/7824#issuecomment-4661968387 for expanded, collapsed rail, hover peek, and settings secondary-sidebar states. ## Risks - Medium UI layout risk: this changes the board shell and primary sidebar composition across many routes. - Local storage migration risk is low: new collapsed state uses a new key and existing width storage remains scoped to the sidebar width. - Plugin route risk: plugin `routeSidebar` slots now render as secondary panes on desktop, so plugin authors should confirm their route sidebar content fits a 240px contextual pane. - Mobile risk appears low because mobile keeps the drawer model and gates collapsed/peek behavior to desktop. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Information Architecture + project/agent visual refresh (experimental) (#7543)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI is the control surface for issues, projects, agents, goals, workspaces, and operator settings. > - The existing navigation and list surfaces make several high-frequency workflows feel harder to scan than they should, especially around projects and agents. > - The product direction is to improve those surfaces without breaking the existing route model or forcing a new IA on every operator at once. > - This pull request now keeps the dependent IA, project identity, and agent-list visual refresh work together while the Issue-to-Task copy migration is split into #7651. > - The benefit is a clearer left nav, better project identity, denser agent/project list rows, and brand-aligned status treatment while preserving the classic default experience behind a flag. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #7645 Refs #7651 Internal planning/work references: PAP-53, PAP-56, PAP-58, PAP-59, PAP-60, PAP-61, PAP-68, PAP-69, PAP-70, PAP-71, PAP-72, PAP-75, PAP-76, PAP-80, PAP-85, PAP-86, PAP-87, PAP-88, PAP-89. ## What Changed - Adds `enableStreamlinedLeftNavigation`, defaulting off, and gates sidebar presentation so classic navigation remains the default. - Adds project icon persistence, validation, portability, picker UI, and `ProjectTile` rendering while defaulting new projects to neutral gray. - Adds projects-list task-count and budget summary data with focused server/shared/UI coverage. - Refreshes agent list rows, row actions, active/recent sidebar behavior, and status capsule/chip styling for the approved brand state system. - Removes the placeholder Conference room and Artifacts nav/routes from the finalized experimental nav direction. - Removes `pnpm-lock.yaml` and the Issue-to-Task copy migration from this PR diff; the copy migration now lives in #7651. ## Verification - Existing branch verification from the authored commits: UI typecheck, targeted unit tests, and light/dark visual checks for `/agents`, agent detail, and design-guide status states. - Maintainer cleanup verification on `75e34e5`: `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passed, the `design/` diff is empty, and the PR diff is 61 files, below Greptile's 100-file review limit. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx` passed: 1 file, 8 tests. - CI and Greptile should rerun on the latest push. ## Risks - Broad UI surface area: the experimental flag keeps the classic nav default, but changed shared components such as `EntityRow`, `ProjectTile`, and agent status badges could affect multiple pages. - Database migration: `projects.icon` is additive and nullable, but migration ordering and portability import/export must stay aligned. - The Issue-to-Task copy migration is now separated into #7651, so reviewers should evaluate this PR as IA/project/agent presentation work only. - Visual regressions are possible across smaller widths because the PR intentionally changes dense list-row layouts. ## Model Used Claude Opus 4.8 assisted the original feature commits. Paperclip-Paperclip agents assisted some planning/design commits. Codex / GPT-5-class coding agent with shell, GitHub CLI, and repository access performed this PR-readiness cleanup and split. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> |

[codex] Add resource membership controls (#6677)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI-agent companies through company-scoped issues, projects, agents, and board-visible workflows. > - The board sidebar and project list are the daily navigation surface for that control plane. > - Users need to keep all projects and agents accessible while hiding resources they have intentionally left from their own sidebar. > - That requires user-scoped resource membership state backed by company-scoped API and database contracts. > - The branch also needed to preserve HTTP worktree login sessions and keep the project list easier to scan after membership grouping. > - This pull request adds resource membership controls, sidebar leave actions, grouped/sortable project listings, and focused tests. > - The benefit is a cleaner personal workspace view without weakening company-scoped access to the underlying project or agent detail pages. ## What Changed - Added `project_memberships` and `agent_memberships` tables with API/shared/server contracts for current-user join/leave state. - Renumbered the membership migration to `0090_resource_memberships` after rebasing onto current `master`, and made it idempotent for anyone who had applied the old branch-local `0087` migration. - Added project and agent sidebar leave actions, plus list filtering that waits for membership state before hiding resources. - Added grouped project listing, project sorting controls, and reserved row subtitle height for cleaner scanning. - Fixed HTTP auth cookie security handling so HTTP worktree sessions can persist. - Updated focused server and UI tests for the new membership, sidebar, project list, and auth behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/better-auth.test.ts server/src/__tests__/resource-memberships-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/Projects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/MembershipAction.test.tsx ui/src/components/EntityRow.test.tsx` - Confirmed the branch is rebased on current `origin/master`. - Confirmed the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Migration safety: low to medium. The migration now uses `IF NOT EXISTS` / guarded constraints and is numbered after current master migrations, but it should still get CI coverage against fresh databases. - UI behavior: low. Left resources are hidden from sidebar only after membership state loads; direct detail access remains available. - Auth behavior: low. Cookie security is relaxed only for HTTP/private local-style origins where secure cookies would prevent login persistence. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Add shared sidebar section controls (#5585)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for AI-agent companies. > - The board UI sidebar is one of the main ways operators scan active agents and projects. > - Agents and projects had duplicated section header behavior, which made collapse controls, add actions, and future section menus harder to keep consistent. > - Operators also need lightweight ways to switch between their curated sidebar order and common scan orders like alphabetical or recent activity. > - This pull request introduces a shared sidebar section header and uses it for the Agents and Projects sidebar sections. > - The benefit is a more consistent sidebar surface with reusable header controls and persisted sort modes without losing the existing drag-ordered Top view. ## What Changed - Added a reusable `SidebarSection` component that supports collapsible content, header actions, and section dropdown menus. - Updated the Agents sidebar section to use the shared header and add persisted `Top`, `Alphabetical`, and `Recent` sort modes. - Updated the Projects sidebar section to use the shared header and add persisted `Top`, `Alphabetical`, and `Recent` sort modes. - Added local-storage helpers and cross-tab update events for agent/project sidebar sort preferences. - Added focused component coverage for the shared section behavior and the updated Agents/Projects sidebar ordering paths. ## Verification - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarSection.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx` - 3 test files passed - 18 tests passed ## Risks - Low-to-moderate UI risk: this changes sidebar section header interactions and adds persisted client-side sort preferences. - Drag ordering is intentionally limited to `Top` mode; non-top modes render sorted lists and do not persist drag order changes. - No database migrations or API contract changes. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] Split PR #4692 UI/QoL updates (#4701)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents through a company-scoped control plane. > - The affected surface is the board UI for issue threads, issue lists, routines, dialogs, navigation, and issue review indicators. > - Closed PR #4692 bundled backend, schema, docs, workflow, and UI/QoL work into one oversized change set. > - Greptile could not keep reviewing that broad PR because it exceeded the 100-file review limit and mixed unrelated concerns. > - This pull request extracts the UI/QoL slice into a fresh branch under the review limit while leaving workflow and lockfile churn out. > - The benefit is a focused review path for the board UI performance and workflow improvements without reopening the oversized PR. ## What Changed - Added long issue-thread virtualization, scroll-container binding, anchor preservation, latest-comment jump targeting, and related regression/perf fixtures. - Improved issue list scalability with scroll-based loading, server offset parameters, and pagination-focused UI tests. - Reduced new issue dialog typing churn and split dialog action subscriptions so broad layout/nav surfaces avoid unnecessary renders. - Added routine variables help and routine description mention options for users, agents, and projects. - Added productivity review badge/link UI and fixed the badge to use Paperclip's company-prefixed router link. - Kept the split PR below Greptile's review limit and excluded `.github/workflows/pr.yml` and `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - `pnpm install --no-frozen-lockfile` in the clean worktree to install `@tanstack/react-virtual` locally without committing lockfile churn. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run --config vitest.config.ts src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx src/pages/Routines.test.tsx src/pages/Issues.test.tsx` passed: 5 files, 83 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD` passed. - Split-scope checks: 53 changed files; no `.github/workflows/pr.yml`; no `pnpm-lock.yaml`. - Screenshots were not captured in this heartbeat; the changes are primarily virtualization, routing, pagination, and editor behavior covered by focused regression tests. ## Risks - Moderate UI risk because issue-thread virtualization changes scroll behavior on long conversations; regression tests cover anchor jumps, latest-comment targeting, row metadata, and short-thread fallback. - Moderate integration risk because the issue-list offset parameter and productivity review field depend on matching API behavior. - Dependency risk: the UI package adds `@tanstack/react-virtual` while repository policy keeps `pnpm-lock.yaml` out of PRs, so CI must resolve dependency changes through the repo's normal lockfile policy. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Add pause and resume actions to sidebar agents (#4616)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip operators need fast control over the agents running their company. > - The sidebar is the persistent place operators scan agent state while navigating the board UI. > - Agent pause and resume already exist as control-plane actions, but sidebar users had to navigate away to use them. > - This pull request adds a compact per-agent action menu in the sidebar. > - It keeps edit, pause, and resume close to the visible agent list while preserving existing navigation behavior. > - The benefit is faster operator intervention when an agent needs to be paused or restarted. ## What Changed - Refactored sidebar agent rows into a small item component with a hover/focus action menu. - Added edit, pause, and resume actions using existing agent API calls and cache invalidation keys. - Added success/error toasts for pause and resume mutations. - Tracked pause/resume pending state per agent so one active mutation does not disable every sidebar row. - Disabled direct sidebar resume for budget-paused agents and labeled that state clearly. - Added jsdom coverage for active-agent pause, paused-agent resume, per-agent pending state, and budget-paused resume protection. - Added visual review artifacts for the default row and opened action menu: - [Sidebar row](docs/pr-screenshots/pr-4616/sidebar-agent-row.png) - [Sidebar action menu](docs/pr-screenshots/pr-4616/sidebar-agent-actions.png) ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server prepare:ui-dist` - Browser screenshot pass against a temporary local trusted instance at `http://127.0.0.1:3102` using Playwright. ## Risks - Low risk: UI-only addition using existing agent pause/resume endpoints. The main risk is layout crowding for very narrow sidebars, mitigated by the icon-only trigger and existing truncation. - Budget-paused agents now require a non-sidebar path to resume, which is intentional to avoid accidentally restarting agents stopped by budget enforcement. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first.
