## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - People coordinate work through conversations, tasks, and requests
for input.
> - These surfaces must share task state and preserve the context of
each decision.
> - The existing workspace makes people switch surfaces to follow that
context.
> - This pull request adds an optional Coordinator workspace with linked
conversations, tasks, documents, and decisions.
> - Each person can enable it in Settings > Experimental and return to
the classic workspace.
> - The benefit is a coherent path from a request to an assigned task
and reviewed work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**
UI, server, shared contracts, and database.

**Problem or motivation**
People need a consistent way to start tasks from agent conversations,
answer questions, review work, and return to the source context.
Decisions and task state must agree across these surfaces.

**Proposed solution**
Add a personal, default-off workspace experiment. Keep one conversation
per agent. Add task proposals, compact task and decision cards,
contextual document panels, and a Needs You queue with search, filters,
sorting, grouping, and history.

**Alternatives considered**
Replacing the classic workspace for everyone would remove the opt-out
path. Keeping separate decision state in each surface would create
conflicting answers. This change uses the existing canonical task and
interaction records instead.

**Roadmap alignment**
This supports the existing agent chat, task management, and human review
capabilities. It is an experimental presentation choice. The user
requested this isolated implementation after design review. No Discord
discussion is claimed.

## What Changed

- Add per-person workspace preferences, a default-off setting, and an
additive migration.
- Add Coordinator navigation, pinned destinations, task lists, agent
switching, and contextual panels.
- Link task suggestions and creation to the source conversation. Default
new task ownership to the current agent unless the user specifies
another owner.
- Share pending questions, decision receipts, exact review targets, and
history across tasks, chat, and Needs You.
- Preserve task access, assignment authorization, revision binding, and
required output review gates.
- Add compact document links, relative timestamps, composer controls,
and reduced-motion support for task and decision transitions.
- Add component stories, regression coverage, and capability-map
documentation.

## Verification

- Final head: `4b839aae1e314bd7e8635a766f1d205ff1c03ba6`, based on
master `8bc051245f77a47bee0f8ba45896b8bfa5922e0a`. Verified October 29,
2026 at 00:10 UTC: **MERGEABLE, 56 checks passed, four conditional
skips, no pending or failed checks**. [Current CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40790639688)
passed without a rerun on this head.
- Fresh Greptile **5/5**, zero new comments and zero open review
threads; Superagent passed with no suspicious changes.
[Checks](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17983/checks).
- Local workspace typecheck/build passed after the latest rebase. The
final account-read patch passed UI typecheck/build and all 12 related
preference/settings tests, including a delayed real-client request
across account changes. Earlier scoped checks cover review
deduplication/replay, decision deep links, cross-surface state, access
boundaries, and migration replay.
- Local database/browser rechecks after the latest rebase were limited
by exhausted macOS shared-memory IDs: `initdb` failed before database
creation. The local run passed 31 UI/snapshot tests and skipped 24
database tests; those skips and the blocked local browser start are not
claimed as passes. The independent Linux CI database and browser checks
passed. No running dev database or host setting was changed.
- Upstream migration 0403 is preserved. Preferences and durable review
retry aliases are generated as replay-safe migrations
`0404_tense_silver_sable.sql` and `0405_harsh_avengers.sql`; five newest
snapshots are retained. Every detected conflict was rebased and pushed
before waiting for CI/review, as requested.
- The PR is unmerged. The active master ruleset still requires
code-owner approval for the changed Paperclip skill; no approval or rule
change was performed.

<details>
<summary>Earlier verification failures, integration history, and
evidence</summary>

These entries preserve prior checkpoints and failures; the current
acceptance result is above.

- Focused UI and server checks from the isolated build are recorded in
the implementation plan.
- Browser checks covered the opt-in shell, navigation, task/document
links, and decision card states. No new live provider trial is claimed
for this handoff.
- Current acceptance head: `4b839aae1e314bd7e8635a766f1d205ff1c03ba6`,
rebased onto master `8bc051245` immediately after its GitHub
review-repair migration took 0403. Preferences are generated as
idempotent `0404_tense_silver_sable.sql`, preserving upstream
SQL/journal/snapshot history and five newest snapshots. GitHub reports
MERGEABLE after the immediate lease-protected push. Scott's updated
instruction is to rebase and push every conflict resolution first,
without waiting for CI or Greptile; verification follows the push.
- The final reviewed feature tree was consolidated for repeatable
single-commit rebases. The complete previous commit history remains
reachable through local recovery ref
`codex/coordinator-recovery-before-rebase-20261028` (resolved snapshot
`0e1bbdf4e`). The actual rebase completed, and its tree hash exactly
matches that resolved snapshot. The force-with-lease required the known
remote head `0e6ef7c44`, protecting against concurrent branch changes.
No PR merge or permission/runner setting change occurred. Fresh
CI/review are in progress for the current head.
- `2001132fa` received Greptile 5/5 with one nonblocking account-switch
read finding. Current head detaches path-coalesced preference GETs and
disables HTTP caching, retaining React Query's account-scoped sharing. A
delayed real-client GET regression proves account B can load its saved
choice before account A responds, and A's late response only updates A's
cache. Preference/settings tests 12/12 and UI typecheck passed; its
review thread is resolved. Fresh current-head CI/reviews are pending.
The prior CI chat shard 3 ended with “The operation was canceled” and no
assertion failure ([job
123171595631](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40789688333/job/123171595631),
`/tmp/pr17983-2001132-chat3.log`); no code/timeout change is attributed
to that cancellation.
- `843e823b4` reached fresh Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads
and Superagent pass. All browser tests including the repaired YAML shard
passed, and 54 checks passed. General server shard 9 ended with “The
operation was canceled” and no failed assertion; its test step was
marked cancelled (job
[123164350893](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40787501761/job/123164350893),
log `/tmp/pr17983-843e-server9.log`). A single unchanged-head rerun was
started after the workflow completed, but master moved while it ran. A
local nested-clone check timed out in its 30-second database-startup
hook and then failed cleanup before the 20 database cases ran; this is
retained as a local verification limit
(`/tmp/pr17983-843e-nested-clone-check.log`), not claimed as a pass or
proof of the CI cancellation cause.
- Following Scott's instruction, the new conflict was rebased and pushed
immediately without waiting for that rerun. Upstream's
`0403_natural_cerise.sql` is preserved; regenerated preferences and
retry-alias migrations are `0404_tense_silver_sable.sql` and
`0405_harsh_avengers.sql`, replay-safe with five newest snapshots
retained. The YAML helper conflict combines upstream's click and header
behavior with the editor-selection guard and injected regression.
Recovery ref `codex/coordinator-recovery-843e823b4` preserves pre-rebase
work. Current head is MERGEABLE. Full workspace typecheck/build passed;
UI and snapshot checks passed 31 tests, but 24 database tests were
skipped by the local support probe, and the local browser server could
not initialize PostgreSQL. A direct disposable `initdb` diagnostic
established the host limitation: `could not create shared memory
segment: No space left on device` (`shmget`, shared-memory IDs
exhausted, not disk space). No dev database or host setting was changed.
Diagnostics: `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-initdb-probe.log`,
`/tmp/pr17983-2001132-db-probe.log`; checks:
`/tmp/pr17983-2001132-tests.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-browser.log`,
`/tmp/pr17983-2001132-types.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-build.log`.
These local skipped/blocked checks are not claimed as passes; fresh CI
on independent runners is in progress.
- `d18f683cd` reached fresh Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads
and Superagent pass, but [E2E shard
7](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40785966243/job/123159719925)
failed parsing an Advanced YAML clipboard read beginning with “Skip to
Main Content.” The log is retained at `/tmp/pr17983-d18f-e2e7.log`.
Current head hardens the test helper to verify editor focus and
selection, clear stale clipboard content, and require the YAML header at
the start of a fresh copy before parsing. Saved-state assertions and
timeouts are unchanged. All six Advanced YAML browser journeys passed on
a disposable local instance (41.0s); the exact lost-response journey
also passed with a one-time injected surrounding-page copy, verifying
rejection/reacquisition (17.6s). The precise browser focus/clipboard
timing in CI remains unproven; the observed invalid-read path is now
guarded and deterministically exercised. Logs:
`/tmp/pr17983-yaml-clipboard-scope-browser.log`,
`/tmp/pr17983-yaml-clipboard-injected-browser.log`. Fresh current-head
CI and reviews are pending.
- `19e6dcb0b` passed Superagent and Greptile 5/5, with one nonblocking
deep-link finding. Current head preserves attention links using
`?decisionId=`: the requested pending decision is rendered even beyond
the first 40 cards, focused and scrolled into view, then only that
parameter is consumed so later refreshes do not refocus. Other URL
parameters remain. Needs You tests 10/10 and UI typecheck passed; its
review thread is resolved. The preceding post-rebase regression run
passed 45/45 tests. Fresh current-head CI/reviews are pending.
- `6d772b7cc` reached Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads and
Superagent pass. While 32 checks had passed, master moved and caused a
documentation conflict in `maps/feature-map/onboarding.md`. Rebased
immediately, preserving both onboarding paragraphs. The complete
four-commit branch was pushed as `19e6dcb0b` before waiting on
CI/review, per Scott's instruction. A transient Git index lock
interrupted the first continue; the command sequence briefly pushed
intermediate `34e298c07`, then the completed rebase was immediately
pushed. All feature and security/retry fixes are present; local recovery
ref `codex/coordinator-recovery-6d772b7cc` preserves the pre-rebase
history. The only tree differences from that ref are upstream's two
smoke-test files and the combined documentation paragraph. GitHub
reports MERGEABLE. Fresh current-head verification is in progress;
prior-head review results are not current acceptance.
- `21efa3120` passed Superagent but Greptile scored 4/5 for a valid
retry-key persistence bug: an acknowledged duplicate key could reopen a
resolved review. Current head adds an additive, replay-safe
`0404_light_swarm.sql` migration for indexed, task-scoped aliases from
acknowledged retry keys to the canonical interaction. Alias registration
and retry lookup occur under the existing task lock; payload/actor
mismatch still conflicts, and each canonical review permits at most 100
aliases. Original and acknowledged keys replay the terminal result
rather than creating a new gate. Five newest migration snapshots are
retained. Service/routes tests 165/165 passed; final quality review plus
migration replay/snapshot checks 25/25 passed; server typecheck passed.
The P1 thread is resolved in code; fresh current-head reviews and CI are
pending.
- `69c2c7543` passed 55 checks and Greptile 5/5 with no open Greptile
findings, but Superagent check
[123140675812](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17983/checks?check_run_id=123140675812)
correctly flagged unbounded pending quality-card creation. Current head
fixes that under the existing task-row lock: equivalent requests with
fresh idempotency keys reuse the pending card; conflicting requests for
an unresolved deliverable return the existing interaction ID; pending
cards are capped at ten per task across all reviewers. Distinct outputs
remain independent, and already-answered items in a partially pending
batch can receive a fresh review. Added real-database concurrency,
cross-card duplicate, partial-answer, and hard-cap regressions. Quality
review 22/22 tests and final server typecheck passed; earlier
service/routes 163/163 tests passed before the final partial-answer
refinement. One added assertion initially expected a service HTTP error,
but duplicate keys are rejected earlier by the existing shared schema;
the assertion now verifies that validation. Fresh current-head
CI/reviews are pending; the action-required security result is not
treated as passed.
- `c9c575e5f` completed all 56 checks successfully with four conditional
skips, Greptile 5/5, and Superagent pass. Its two P2 review findings are
fixed in the current head: independently bound quality approvals now
each remain visible in attention; changing/clearing URL-backed
assignee/status filters updates the URL and survives task navigation.
Both review threads are resolved. Regression evidence: attention service
34/34 tests passed, CoordinatorTasks 20/20 passed, UI and server
typechecks and the full workspace build passed on `69c2c7543`. The first
new UI test run caught an assertion racing React Router's transition;
waiting for the navigation before asserting passes without weakening the
navigation/remount checks. These older-head green checks are not claimed
for the new fix commit.
- Preceding `0e6ef7c44` completed all 56 checks successfully with four
conditional skips, fresh Greptile 5/5 and no open findings, and passed
Superagent. A fifth migration-metadata collision arrived before the
final Runner job finished. Those green results are preserved as
prior-head evidence, not current acceptance.
- Previous fully verified migration head:
`0e6ef7c44696a377f35e69521b93587576374bd0`, integrating master
`f8226b051` after the fourth migration-number collision. Master added
terminal GitHub-response migration 0401 while the final native check
ran; upstream 0401 SQL/journal/snapshot is preserved unchanged, and
preferences are generated as idempotent `0402_yielding_blink.sql` on
top. Exactly the five newest snapshots remain. GitHub reports MERGEABLE
after the push. All 1,155 relevant
migration/review/interaction/native-execution/remote-assets tests,
workspace typecheck/build, migration guards and whitespace checks pass.
Fresh exact-head CI/Greptile/Superagent are pending.
- Immediately preceding head `36c67cf03` completed all 56 checks
successfully with four conditional skips, fresh Greptile 5/5 and no open
findings, plus passed Superagent security. No retry was needed for that
head's CI. Master advanced and introduced only a migration-metadata
conflict while its final native check ran, so that green result does not
establish acceptance of the current integration. Four consecutive
collisions (0398, 0399, 0400, 0401) during verification are retained as
concrete integration churn; a brief pause of competing migration merges
was requested, without assuming it happened or changing any repo
setting. The PR has not been merged.
- Prior fully verified head: `36c67cf03`, on the clean `30059c0ed`
integration of master `efd65c112`. The last Greptile P2 is fixed: Needs
attention retains the participant-agent scope through authoritative
server membership queries for each pending task, including historical
participation when another agent currently owns the task. It does not
approximate participation with current assignment or enumerate every
company task. The actual view-switch regression and all 31 focused
task/routing/collection tests, UI typecheck/build, token gates and
whitespace checks pass. Greptile completed a fresh 5/5 review on this
exact head (review 19) with zero new comments and no open review
threads. CI and Superagent remain in progress; no current-head CI
failure has been reported.
- Head `30059c0ed` received Greptile 5/5 with that one nonblocking
participant finding, now fixed. Superagent passed that head.
Current-base integration restored the ephemeral RunsOn fleet after a
superseded workflow retained queued aggregate jobs: normal cancellation
was insufficient; the single force-cancel request was interrupted but
readback confirmed that obsolete run cancelled and current CI began on
the trusted fleet. No cancellation retry or runner/security/workflow
changes were made. Its partial CI was superseded by the necessary
participant fix and is not current acceptance.
- Previous compatibility/base-sync head:
`30059c0ededc0eab4e04e8299a884f36db8b292f`, integrating master
`efd65c112` and the Inbox/workspace compatibility fixes. GitHub reports
MERGEABLE after the push. Coordinator keeps Inbox standalone under More
without rewriting the instance's Combined Inbox preference; opting out
restores that preference. Saved merged-Inbox URLs resolve to their
original owner, task status presets remain usable, and canonical
repeated `workspace` parameters retain scoped, deduplicated pagination
(including Needs attention). All 192 broader
routing/Inbox/sidebar/privacy/review tests and the final 16 task-page
tests pass, as do workspace typecheck/build, token gates and whitespace
checks. The two review threads are resolved. Fresh exact-head CI,
Greptile and Superagent results are pending.
- The preceding `d5b9be5bd` remained mergeable but its CI routing gate
intentionally fell back to GitHub-hosted runners: “stacked base merge
commit does not contain the current base branch.” All 45 downstream jobs
stayed queued. Current master was merged cleanly to refresh the pinned
base; no runner/security settings or workflow logic were changed.
Greptile scored that preceding head 4/5 with the two compatibility
findings fixed here. Its automatic Superagent scan was inconclusive at
checkout; the documented retry was still pending when superseded. Those
results do not establish acceptance of this current head.
- Previous approval/migration head:
`d5b9be5bd3b8d6b0437e42bf48138377f34fa67d`, integrating master
`ba5bba86d` and the stale-output approval correction. GitHub reports
MERGEABLE after the push. The fresh P1 finding is fixed: every submitted
item now validates and locks its bound output inside the resolution
transaction, whether or not it carries a required-quality-review
binding. Real database regressions verify that an advanced document
revision or deleted attachment refuses the entire batch without
recording approvals, and current ordinary output reviews still resolve.
All 272 combined migration/review/interaction tests pass; workspace
typecheck/build passed. Fresh exact-head Greptile and CI are pending.
The automatic Superagent scan ended inconclusive at checkout; one
documented on-demand retry is pending. These are explicit verification
limits, not passed security results. The P1 thread is resolved.
- Master consumed the next migration slot three times during this
verification pass: confirmation recovery took 0398, continuation
recovery took 0399, and GitHub acknowledgement recovery took 0400. Each
upstream SQL/journal/snapshot is preserved unchanged. Preferences are
now generated as idempotent `0401_white_lenny_balinger.sql` from
upstream 0400; exactly five snapshots remain, and replay coverage
locates this migration by table content. This is recorded concurrent
integration churn, not a claim that older green results apply to the
latest base.
- Head `ed3b68da9` fixed the two history/URL findings with 26 focused
regression tests, server/UI typechecks, workspace build and token gates
passing. Greptile then scored that head 4/5 with the stale-output P1
corrected in the current head. Its partial CI is superseded, not counted
as current acceptance.
- Previous filter-fix head: `ed3b68da9`, based on the `8458d39d9` merge
of master `063cfd438`. The two fresh Greptile findings are fixed:
history outcome filters now match recorded per-item verdicts in SQL
before pagination (mixed reviews remain in both applicable outcomes),
and same-page URL assignee changes/back/forward navigation update that
filter without clearing independent filters. All 26 focused
database/navigation/collection tests, server/UI typechecks, workspace
build, token gates and whitespace checks pass. The two review threads
are resolved. Fresh exact-head CI, Greptile and Superagent results are
pending.
- The `8458d39d9` migration integration also passed all 328 targeted
migration/interaction/confirmation tests, workspace typecheck/build and
Superagent security scan. Greptile scored that head 4/5 with the two
functional gaps fixed in the current head; those prior-head checks are
not current acceptance.
- Migration integration head:
`8458d39d9721f4cb312c2390070a0609f8cddd1a`, integrating master
`063cfd43813cabf18417605fb9eefb9aacf95c8d`. GitHub reports MERGEABLE
after the push. Master advanced twice during this conflict-resolution
pass: first its confirmation-recovery migration took 0398, then its
continuation-recovery migration took 0399. Both upstream migrations and
journal entries remain unchanged; Coordinator preferences are now
generated as idempotent `0400_sad_guardian.sql` from upstream's latest
snapshot. Exactly the five newest snapshots remain. The replay
regression now locates the table migration by content instead of
hardcoding a renumbered filename.
- All 328 targeted question/review/confirmation/migration tests passed
again after the second merge. Workspace typecheck/build and fresh
exact-head CI/reviews are in progress. The preceding `0c46f46d6` passed
workspace typecheck/build and Superagent security scan, but was
superseded because master consumed migration 0399 while those checks
ran. That prior-head result is not acceptance of the current head. No
production settings or runner/security permissions were changed, and the
PR has not been merged.
- Previous integration head: `0c46f46d6f2b23417ab872ce3cb6ff2673647287`,
integrating master `287b04d72f1b9fca1412e05435c75b8302ba0710`. GitHub
reports MERGEABLE after the push. The renewed conflicts were
`0398_snapshot.json`, `_journal.json`, and the top imports in
`issue-thread-interactions.ts`. Upstream's `0398` confirmation-recovery
index and journal history are preserved unchanged; Coordinator
preferences were regenerated as idempotent `0399_bouncy_miek.sql`, with
replay coverage updated and exactly the five newest snapshots retained.
Both terminal confirmation notifications and Coordinator task
assignment/required review behavior are preserved.
- All 328 targeted interaction/review/confirmation/migration tests pass,
as do workspace typecheck, map validation and whitespace checks. The
workspace build and fresh exact-head CI/Greptile/Superagent checks are
pending. The first migration-generation attempt hit the sandbox's local
IPC restriction before generating files; the unchanged authorized local
generation completed successfully. Prior-head green checks below do not
establish acceptance of this merge.
- Previous acceptance head: `8b7dcf739ed15afc51351fdfa0e0e5fbc75ab788`,
with master `1aa3a21ac` integrated and GitHub reporting MERGEABLE.
Greptile completed a fresh 5/5 review on this exact head with zero new
actionable findings and no open review threads. The [fresh CI
workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40752864319)
completed SUCCESS on attempt 2 at 19:40:08 UTC, including all eight E2E
shards. Final completed check set: 55 succeeded, four conditional checks
skipped, zero pending/queued/running checks, and one
neutral/inconclusive Superagent scan. The auxiliary commitperclip review
and isolated native Runner compilation/cache-reuse check both passed.
This is not a claim that Superagent produced a passed security verdict.
GitHub still reports MERGEABLE against current master
`60b8089a44b4eaa37e627adbfdf2f130bda13335`.
- Current-head E2E: all eight shards and the aggregate passed, including
the previously failing YAML browser journey. Serialized server shard 9/9
failed: the protected YAML projection test exceeded its original
15-second timeout; its late update request then reached the next test's
reset mock (the captured payload is the prior test's model/label
update). All 88 tests in that exact unchanged file passed locally in
38.03 seconds, with no timeout or assertion changes. The original
slow-request cause remains unproven. CI failure log:
`/tmp/pr17983-8b7-serialized9.log`; local recovery:
`/tmp/pr17983-adapter-yaml-repro.log`. The single bounded unchanged
shard rerun passed, and the workflow completed SUCCESS. Rerun log:
`/tmp/pr17983-8b7-serialized9-rerun.log`. The initial failure is
retained; a passing retry does not establish its original slow-request
cause.
- Greptile scored preceding head `4873704be` 5/5 with one valid P2:
opened task decision records missed company-scoped live invalidation.
The current head uses the existing company decision prefix for
resolution and effect-completion events, and resets private record
payloads on access changes. Its thread is resolved. All 107 focused
record/live-update tests, UI typecheck/build, token checks and
whitespace checks pass.
- CI on `4873704be` failed E2E shard 7/8 in the Advanced YAML
lost-creation-response journey: its clipboard helper selected page text
starting with “Skip to Main Content” instead of YAML. The exact
unchanged journey passed in a disposable local browser instance (1 test,
17.1 seconds). No assertion, timeout or production behavior was
weakened; the original failure cause remains unproven. Failure log:
`/tmp/pr17983-487-e2e7.log`; local check:
`/tmp/pr17983-agent-yaml-repro.log`. The full unchanged Advanced YAML
browser suite also passed locally (6 tests, 37.8 seconds). Fresh
current-head CI subsequently passed this journey and all other E2E
shards.
- Both the automatic and one supported on-demand Superagent scan on
`4873704be` ended neutral/inconclusive: “Pinned PR scan merge-base
checkout failed or timed out.” These do not count as a passed security
verdict. The current head's automatic scan and one documented on-demand
retry also returned the identical neutral checkout failure, with zero
annotations or further diagnostics. This is an external scanner blocker,
not a passed security verdict. No security settings or permissions were
changed.
- Recorded decision links now render and focus the full source-task
record in both Classic and Coordinator, including recorded choice,
submitted inputs, and the existing effect-result resolver. Fresh
terminal records take precedence over older open-decision cache entries.
Context and account checks keep mismatched or inaccessible records out
of the DOM; no decision-history tab was added to tasks or chat. The
shared company live-run feed now drives live-only filtering, including
ended runs and terminal tasks with stale run entries. All 213 focused
tests, UI typecheck/build, token and whitespace checks pass; the final
focus follow-up passed all 188 task-detail tests and UI typecheck. The
first new navigation test failed because its test host omitted company
context; the host was corrected before the passing run.
- Previous integration head: `375c5e89516705050d94bab99336212841b2e6e1`
merges master `1aa3a21ac` after four additional upstream commits. The
sole conflict was competing imports in `server/src/services/issues.ts`;
both quality-review policy and inbound wake-notice notifications are
preserved. The PR-specific review import now sits beside
execution-policy imports instead of the frequently changing first line.
GitHub mergeability is rechecked after the push.
- On the combined master tree, workspace typecheck/build, all 153
affected UI tests, map validation, and whitespace checks pass. Four
server suites passed 77 tests; the fifth suite's module-import hook
timed out while broad verification was running. Its unchanged isolated
run passed all 41 tests in 7.2 seconds with the original timeout. This
records recovery without claiming the original import-timeout cause is
proven. CI on `375c5e895` passed every substantive job, including all
eight E2E shards and Superagent; Greptile found the two functional gaps
fixed in the current head. A short-lived `669d90876` commit added the
main fixes before the focused navigation follow-up.
- Immediately preceding head `9d9737b49` completed all 56 checks
successfully with four conditional skips, Greptile 5/5 and no open
findings, plus a successful Superagent scan. The signoff E2E shard
passed on its single accepted rerun; its initial cancellation/timing
failure is retained below. Master moved again while those checks ran,
requiring this final integration rather than treating the prior head's
green result as current acceptance.
- Previous head `9d9737b496911a6054d0ea22d1b42b28b115e9ab` includes
master `d30c8f42b842327ee1c18c41a2efd6ba623da5cd`; that head was
subsequently conflicted by moving master. The master merge preserved
durable account-bound writes and Coordinator UX. Workspace
typecheck/build, 416 focused UI tests, and 142 affected comment-route
tests passed. A stable full UI run on preceding head `938ad1665` passed
all 9,833 tests across 836 files; its final full workspace build also
passed.
- Greptile found nested proposal project inheritance and Classic
bound-revision links on `91be74952`. Both were fixed with 142
interaction-route tests, 113 focused UI tests, and UI/server typechecks.
Its next review identified a valid draft-preservation bug in the new
Classic loading UI. Head `9d9737b49` keeps loading/error notices outside
editors and annotations while preserving dirty drafts; 115 focused
review UI tests pass, including pending/failed revision loads and
continued draft editing. All related threads are resolved. Greptile
completed a fresh 5/5 review of
`9d9737b496911a6054d0ea22d1b42b28b115e9ab` with no open findings.
- CI on `938ad1665` exposed an integration regression with the newly
merged durable startup saves: the personal preference gate blocked the
task page before its first session lookup. The guarded title editor now
mounts while that lookup is pending, with presentation-specific tools
still gated. All 216 affected component tests pass. The unchanged
five-test `disconnect-write-recovery.spec.ts` browser suite passes
against a newly launched disposable local-trusted PostgreSQL instance on
port 33219, including the exact failed startup-save journey. No live
provider, hosted authentication or production proof is claimed. The
helper-owned test server exited and the port has no listener. UI
typecheck, built-browser assets, token and whitespace checks pass.
- Initial durable-write merge tests found duplicate imports and unscoped
draft fixtures, fixed before 416 focused tests passed. A sandbox
typecheck could not create its IPC socket; the supported rerun passed.
The first revision-link test used a wrong Return to latest button
assertion, corrected before the 113-test pass. The startup E2E
reproduction initially still failed because an outer shell gate also
blocked the page; the subsequent fix passed all five cases without
changing the test or its timeouts. A focused loading-header assertion
initially used an incorrect fixture title; correcting it preceded the
216-test pass. These failures remain recorded.
- Earlier routing gates fell back to GitHub-hosted runners while master
was moving or conflicted. Superseded queued runs were cancelled, then
the `938ad1665` routing gate explicitly selected the ephemeral RunsOn
fleet. Its CI actively executed and completed most tests; only the
diagnosed startup E2E shard and aggregate failed, alongside the valid
Greptile finding. Auxiliary GitHub-hosted workflows also completed
successfully on earlier heads, so queueing alone is not an
administrative blocker. Fresh [CI on
`9d9737b49`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40744012678)
is the acceptance target; the previously failing startup E2E shard now
passes. A different signoff E2E shard failed during executor
resubmission when its fixture run was cancelled as
`issue_continuation_waiting_on_review`. The exact unchanged journey
passed locally (1 test, 46 seconds), and the preceding head with
identical server/signoff code passed that CI shard. This supports a
bounded rerun but does not establish the timing failure's root cause.
After the workflow finished, GitHub accepted one rerun of that failed
shard and its dependent aggregate; both passed, completing all checks on
that head. The failure log is retained at `/tmp/pr17983-9d9737-e2e7.log`
and the local reproduction at `/tmp/pr17983-signoff-repro.log`. No
assertion or timeout was weakened.
- On the first merge, full workspace typecheck/build, all 9,622 UI
tests, 267 tests across seven affected server suites, two migration
checks, map validation, token gates, and the PR diff whitespace check
passed. Greptile then found duplicate local task-search filtering and
lost completed item-review detail. Both are fixed, with 42 passing
focused UI tests and passing UI typecheck/build.
- A subsequent Greptile review found attachment confirmations without
working links and mobile history without a visible host. Confirmation
layouts now derive the authenticated immutable-content endpoint from the
attachment ID, and Needs You uses the existing full-screen mobile sheet.
All 119 focused tests pass, including missing/stale display URLs, both
review layouts, and both mobile history entry buttons. UI
typecheck/build and token checks pass. Full workspace typecheck/build
also pass after the second master merge.
- Greptile gave head 22f69c304 a 5/5 score with one non-blocking
desktop-history reopening finding. Head 6dd52b6d3 fixed it, passed all
nine history tests, UI typecheck/build, token gates, and the full
9,679-test UI suite, then received a fresh 5/5 review with zero open
findings. These are prior-head results; review on the master-sync commit
is pending.
- The chat and workspace CI jobs on head 22f69c304 were interrupted by
runner shutdown signals and cancellation before completing their tests.
Their logs do not report failing assertions. Those interrupted jobs are
not claimed as passes. The new head starts fresh runs.
- The first merge CI had a Slack session-sync idle assertion fail after
an unexpected database read. Its exact isolated reproduction passes, and
the chat CI shard passed on head 618c5a2a3. The original failure's cause
remains undetermined. The broader local reproduction, run concurrently
with full verification, instead encountered 21 timeout failures across
its two test chunks; it is not claimed as a passing full local server
run. A concurrent local UI run had eight failures (seven timeouts and
one delayed autosave assertion). The complete UI run on the final head
passed all 9,679 tests across 830 files with two workers; no test
timeout or assertion was weakened. This establishes recovery without
claiming that every earlier timeout's cause has been proved. An earlier
intermediate UI run also overlapped the second master merge and failed
the newly added Advanced-sidebar expectation, so it is not treated as
stable-tree evidence. The newly merged UI dependencies initially
required refreshing the local install from the upstream package
manifest; the generated local lockfile update is not committed, per
repository policy.
- Superagent returned neutral/inconclusive scans on the preceding heads
because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. The
available retry endpoint returned 404. These are not successful security
verdicts. The fresh scan on `91be74952` passed (PR scan passed; no
suspicious PR changes detected). The `938ad1665` scan again returned
neutral/inconclusive with the same pinned merge-base checkout error; the
check-suite rerun endpoint returned 404. The fresh `9d9737b49` scan
completed successfully at 18:22 UTC with no suspicious changes detected.
Earlier neutral scans are not counted as successful security verdicts.
- Prior head `57902152ac3218096fca669d33ff18400a2a86ae` passed 9,618 UI
tests across 826 files, received Greptile 5/5 with no open findings, and
completed CI with 56 passes and four conditional skips. These are
historical results, not acceptance of the latest merge commit.
- The first full build found generated capability-contract drift. The
generated outputs were refreshed. Initial sandbox runs could not open
local IPC sockets; verification was rerun with local test access.
- Current master was merged. The workspace preference migration was
regenerated after the existing migration history.
- The UI run first found two outdated expectations: early custom-answer
validation and the document access error copy. Both were corrected, and
the full UI suite then passed.
- The local server run found three failures in unchanged tests. The Muse
test passes with Python 3.13 instead of the host's Python 3.9. The two
workspace tests pass when their test process uses the expected master
default branch. These environment settings do not change application
behavior or global machine settings. The unsharded server run was
stopped after those reproductions; CI supplies the full sharded server
result. No successful full local server run is claimed.
- Skill inventory generation needs an external eval checkout, which is
absent locally. The existing generator functions refreshed only the live
skill inventory and its derived files. The checked-in eval inventory was
preserved. The inventory validation gate passes.
- Greptile found a dropped MCP review requirement, missing per-item
output links, generic item-review summaries, and a history-refresh
failure. The fixes have 32 passing database-backed server tests and
focused rendered-card tests. A follow-up partial-review finding was
corrected by forwarding the canonical mutation status before settling
the card. Attachments open through the authenticated immutable-content
route in both card layouts. The final focused UI set has 117 passing
tests, including these regressions.
- Both browser shards that first failed expected a disabled-chat
message. The copy was restored, and those shards passed in CI on the
next commit. The two journeys also passed locally. One local attempt
first timed out before feature disable while waiting for the provider's
initial message; its isolated reproduction passed. That earlier timing
failure remains recorded and is not presented as an explained
infrastructure failure.
- Serialized server shard 9 first failed during pnpm setup with
ECONNRESET, before dependencies or tests ran. Its single rerun passed
setup and all tests. The build and production runtime boot passed on the
first attempt, but that run's public-install step timed out during Pi
setup. The single build-job rerun passed compilation, runtime boot, and
clean public-install verification. Those setup scripts are unchanged by
this PR. The successful retry establishes recovery; the earlier Pi
timeout's underlying cause remains undetermined. The aggregate CI gate
is green: [workflow
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40637789695).

</details>

## Risks

- This touches shared task, interaction, and completion paths.
Regression tests must cover classic and experimental behavior,
authorization, duplicate answers, and stale review targets.
- The additive preference table must migrate before the setting is used.
The setting defaults off.
- The experiment changes navigation and message presentation. Canonical
task and document records remain the source of truth.
- The initial task brief and saved plan can repeat information. This
change fixes chronology; a broader redundancy policy remains a design
decision.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 Codex with reasoning and tool-assisted code editing, tests,
and browser verification. Earlier iterations used Codex models in this
task; their exact model IDs are not available in the current context.

DottaandPaperclip 433d94ee0b refactor(maps): generate indexes from local story and feature metadata (#16214)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Feature recipes and Storybook help contributors find behavior,
examples, and verification steps.
> - Independent feature changes currently update shared catalogs,
indexes, and review hashes.
> - Those shared files cause merge conflicts and repeated bookkeeping
during parallel work.
> - This pull request stores metadata in each feature recipe and story,
then generates the combined views.
> - Contributors can merge independent work without editing a common
index. Git and PR evidence retain change and review history.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Maintaining the product, agent-access, and Storybook maps while multiple
agents change different features.

**Current behavior**

A story or recipe change can update `catalog.json`, `INDEX.md`, review
hashes, verification tables, and tracked generated navigation. Two
unrelated changes then conflict in the same files.

**Proposed behavior**

Each story declares capability links and classification in
`parameters.paperclip`. Each feature recipe declares its navigation and
optional verification guidance. Startup, build, and UI typechecking
discover these sources and generate ignored indexes and Storybook pages.

**Reason and benefit**

A routine change edits its own source files. Aggregate metadata is
rebuilt from the merged checkout. There is no sidecar registry, shared
review journal, or hash acknowledgment to maintain.

**Breaking changes**

The tracked Storybook catalog and index paths are retired. Consumers use
`ui/storybook/generated/` or `maps/generated/` after generation.
Contributor instructions and the existing feature-gap browser suite use
the new paths. Story and overview IDs remain stable.

## What Changed

- Move the existing annotations into 262 story files. Preserve
classifications, capability associations, exports, and explicit IDs.
- Discover all 35 feature recipes. Store section/order beside each
recipe and move durable verification routes out of the shared table.
- Remove tracked catalogs, inventories, overview pages, and inline
preview ordering. Keep authored preview behavior in `preview-base.tsx`.
- Generate the Storybook guide, feature/access Markdown indexes, gap
report, page-reference inventory, and preview wrapper automatically.
- Update the map contracts and maintenance skills to use Git history and
revision-specific PR/CI evidence.
- Add schema, identity, regeneration, and actual Git merge tests. Run
these through the existing UI Vitest suite. Add focused browser
navigation checks.

This is one coordinated migration. Most of the 367 changed files contain
only moved metadata or deleted generated content. Review the generator
scripts, map contracts, Storybook configuration, and tests first. No
product API or authorization behavior changes.

## Verification

Passed:

- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: 35 paired areas and 175 capabilities.
- `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs --check`: 262 suites and 2,485
authored stories after incorporating current master.
- `node --test scripts/check-maps.test.mjs
scripts/storybook-catalog.test.mjs
scripts/storybook-feature-index.test.mjs`: 28 tests, including
independent branches merged in both orders with identical generated
output and no tracked changes.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
storybook/map-tooling.test.ts`: the CI entrypoint runs those map tests.
- `pnpm check:token-gates`.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` before the final master rebase.
- `pnpm build-storybook`: all 2,517 original story/docs URLs retained.
Current master contributes exactly four additional recovery stories.
- Focused Playwright navigation checks: search and open a feature
without examples; expand verification guidance and check source links;
retain capability order and follow a related Foundations suite.

The final clean Storybook build passed after deleting every ignored map
output. Post-rebase UI typechecking and both browser tests passed. The
working tree stays clean after generation. The concurrent-cleanup
regression fails with `ENOENT` without the fix and passes with it.

All GitHub CI gates passed on `00fc7ec18e`, which also received Greptile
5/5 with no unresolved findings. The final merge commit `1c3c5143a6`
incorporates master and resolves only the two modify/delete conflicts by
retaining removal of the aggregate index and catalog. Master’s new
workspace feature and access guidance is preserved. Map validation,
catalog generation, overview generation, all 28 map tests, and diff
checks pass after conflict resolution. The maintainer explicitly
requested merging without another Greptile review. CI has not been rerun
to completion on this merge commit. The local repository-wide `pnpm
test:run` was stopped before completion after the earlier CI matrix
passed; it is not reported as a local pass. No screenshot baselines or
production acceptance are claimed.

To repeat the browser check against an owned Storybook server:

```sh
PAPERCLIP_GAP_STORYBOOK_URL=http://127.0.0.1:6136 pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/storybook-visual/feature-gap-stories.config.ts map-navigation.spec.ts
```

## Risks

- Existing branches need a one-time rebase to move their catalog changes
into local annotations. The PR incorporates the recovery changes from
current master.
- Changing the same story or capability can still produce a meaningful
conflict. This removes the shared aggregate bottleneck.
- The generator uses Storybook's existing CSF parser. Literal-only
annotations and parser regression tests protect the current contract.
- Generated Markdown is available after running the generator; the
published Storybook provides a browsable guide.
- Shared source changes still require review. Removing hashes removes
mechanical acknowledgments; it does not establish runtime parity.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code
execution, and browser-test tools. The exact deployment model ID and
context window were not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip e67db42dc9 docs: define heartbeat execution design principles (#16190)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip coordinates AI agents and their work.
> - Heartbeat controls when that work starts, who owns execution, and
how it settles.
> - The extracted modules need shared architectural guidance as they
evolve.
> - Rules should protect those boundaries without freezing the current
implementation.
> - This PR adds scoped heartbeat principles for contributors and
reviewers.
> - The rule helps future changes preserve execution authority and
recoverable work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Issue type**

Missing documentation.

**Where is the issue?**

The heartbeat service has a module map but no scoped architectural rule
under `rules/`.

**What's wrong?**

Changes span admission, execution, completion, and recovery. Reviewers
need shared principles for authority, ownership, and settlement across
these boundaries.

**Suggested fix**

Add a concise heartbeat rule, route contributors to it from `AGENTS.md`,
and register the same scope for Greptile. Keep implementation details in
the code and existing developer documentation.

Related: #16172 established scoped repository rules. #15984 completed
the latest heartbeat extraction. Searches found no duplicate
heartbeat-guidelines PR.

## What Changed

- Add `rules/heartbeat-execution-boundaries.mdc` with a folder guide, a
concise map of existing module responsibilities, and six design
principles.
- Keep `heartbeat.ts` focused on coordination: extend an existing owner
or extract cohesive modules when new behavior would substantially grow
it, with tests and explicit contracts.
- Cover current execution authority, explicit ownership, distinct
completion obligations, recovery intent, durable state, and visible
uncertainty.
- Register matching paths in `.greptile/files.json` and link the rule
from `AGENTS.md` and `doc/DEVELOPING.md`.
- Include behavioral review criteria and flag substantial coordinator
growth or mixed responsibilities while allowing justified cohesion and
ordering exceptions.

## Verification

- Parsed the rule YAML and Greptile JSON. Confirmed that the rule globs
exactly match the Greptile scope.
- Checked 14 positive and negative scope cases with Node's
`path.matchesGlob`, including nested heartbeat modules, sibling
services, regression tests, and unrelated paths.
- Verified local links and heading anchors, including the existing
heartbeat module map, and confirmed all 20 named modules exist. Reviewed
their responsibility descriptions against the current code and developer
documentation.
- `git diff origin/master --check` passed after rebasing onto current
master.
- Reviewed the principles against the current heartbeat code and tests.
The diff changes four documentation and review-configuration files.
- Application typecheck, runtime tests, and build were not run locally.
This worktree has no installed dependencies. CI and review status are
tracked below.

- CI passed on `a17f5a2cc82b7bb7e4629d4a2d9e3a766e27c5c0`: 55 successful
checks, two skipped, no failures or pending checks. This includes
typecheck, build, server/runner tests, and browser tests.
- Greptile reviewed the same commit at 5/5 with no findings or
unresolved review threads.

## Risks

The rule can influence later implementation and review decisions. It
applies to changed heartbeat behavior and permits justified contract
changes with tests. The scoped globs exclude unrelated subsystems. This
PR does not change application behavior. Hosted loading of the new rule
has not been demonstrated by the local configuration checks.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`) via Codex, with repository
inspection, file editing, and command execution. The context-window size
was not exposed to this session.

DottaandPaperclip 7ac0354b51 docs: track chat channel rules and Greptile configuration (#16172)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Chat channels connect shared task workflows to several platforms.
> - Recent refactors moved platform behavior into named channel folders.
> - Authors and reviewers need a durable rule that preserves these
boundaries.
> - Review settings also need version control and an explicit source of
rules.
> - This pull request adds scoped MDC rules and a staged migration of
supported Greptile settings into Git.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Issue type**

Missing documentation and versioned review configuration.

**Where is the issue?**

Root contributor instructions, chat channel architecture guidance, and
Greptile configuration for this repository.

**What's wrong?**

The channel folder boundary is established in the refactor but has no
focused rule for future changes. Greptile settings and custom context
are maintained in the dashboard.

**Suggested fix**

Keep canonical rule bodies under `rules/`. Route coding agents through
`AGENTS.md` and load matching rules through `.greptile/files.json`.
Preserve supported review settings in `.greptile/config.json` and
document the remaining dashboard controls.

Related work: #15823 and #16080. A search for related rule PRs found no
duplicate configuration change.

## What Changed

- Add `rules/chat-channel-platform-boundaries.mdc`. Its scope covers
`server/src/services/chat-channels/**` and the sibling
`chat-channels.ts` entry point.
- Define provider folder ownership, shared workflow boundaries, typed
dependencies, behavior-preserving extraction, and dispatch exceptions.
- Add rule-loading instructions to root `AGENTS.md` and
`.greptile/rules.md`.
- Add explicit, scoped context references in `.greptile/files.json`.
- Record observed review triggers, the Dependabot exclusion, Base tier,
High strictness, summary options, fix prompts, status checks, and
disabled auto-approval in `.greptile/config.json`.
- Move existing PR-description, source-file growth, and
repository-specific screenshot guidance into
`rules/pull-request-review.mdc`.
- Document supported settings, remaining dashboard controls, and the
staged cutover. The dashboard was inspected read-only; no settings or
saved rules were changed.

## Verification

- Parse both MDC headers with Ruby `YAML.safe_load`: passed.
- Parse both Greptile JSON files and verify documented field types and
observed values: passed.
- Verify all four context references resolve to repository files:
passed.
- Compare scoped MDC globs with the corresponding Greptile scope:
passed.
- Check ten positive and negative scope cases with Node
`path.matchesGlob`: passed. Includes the service entry point, nested
provider files, and unrelated runner, connection, and UI paths.
- Verify the scope covers all 101 tracked chat-channel files: passed.
- `git diff --check`: passed.
- Application typecheck, `pnpm test:run`, and build were not run
locally. This change contains only guidance and reviewer configuration,
and this worktree has no installed application dependencies. No runtime
behavior or application tests changed.
- Greptile reviewed commit `32647dfd001289a297b9d43c381371da8575df38`:
5/5, eight files reviewed, zero comments. Hosted CI is still running.

## Risks

- Instructions depend on agent and reviewer compliance; these files are
not deterministic lint rules.
- The new MDC directory is explicitly routed through `AGENTS.md` and
Greptile. Cursor does not automatically discover arbitrary `rules/`
directories.
- This preserves the observed High strictness setting, which the
dashboard says omits P2 comments. It does not change that review policy.
- Dashboard instructions and custom rules remain additive. Their copies
were not disabled during read-only inspection. The repository-specific
no-screenshot rule explicitly takes precedence over the conflicting
older organization instruction.
- Draft review, the required 5/5 status threshold, image badges, and
other controls without documented config equivalents remain in the
dashboard. See `.greptile/README.md` for the inventory and cutover
limitations.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6. The exact runtime model ID and
context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning,
repository inspection, shell validation, official documentation, and
read-only browser inspection.

DottaandPaperclip 9e721264e9 feat: maintain Storybook through a downstream feature catalog (#16046)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Storybook supports review of its production UI and proposed designs.
> - Its 223 story files have no consistent link to product capabilities
or record of component and mock provenance.
> - Old compositions can drift while they still look like current
product examples.
> - This pull request adds two maintenance skills and a catalog that
consumes the existing feature map.
> - The first audit preserves all stories and fixes proven fixture
drift.
> - Contributors can now find examples by feature and see what still
needs review.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Storybook maintenance, feature discovery, and the accuracy of isolated
UI examples.

**Current behavior**

Stories are already centralized under `ui/storybook/`, but their sidebar
has 51 top-level groups. Production components, local prototypes, and
historical designs are not consistently distinguished. The old guide
uses manual coverage claims. GitHub searches found no duplicate
feature-map catalog change.

**Proposed behavior**

Keep existing story locations and IDs. Add a downstream catalog keyed to
stable feature capabilities. Record product status, rendered subject,
data boundary, and declared review dependencies separately. Use
dedicated maintenance and review skills to reconcile drift and report
evidence.

**Reason and benefit**

The catalog makes existing examples reusable without treating mock
behavior or old designs as production acceptance. The feature map
remains independent of Storybook.

## What Changed

- Add `maintain-storybook` and `review-storybook` skills with
contributor guidance.
- Inventory all 223 story files. Generate a feature index and provide
searchable navigation in the existing Overview story. Track direct
subjects through relative imports and local wrappers, including the
primitives demonstrated by foundation suites.
- Add a checker for inventory, capability references, duplicate IDs, and
declared-source drift, with eight regression tests. The parser test
covers real nested CSF files, export filters, explicit IDs, and play
counts.
- Preserve historical designs and classify mixed wrappers. Record the
initial audit and remaining parity work.
- Align the question-dismiss/send fixture with production behavior. Add
dismissal and confirmation-reopen regressions and repair the editor
selector.
- Exclude three exported fast-response fixtures from story discovery and
add the missing render-time callback spy.

## Verification

- Passed: `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs`, `node --test
scripts/storybook-catalog.test.mjs` (8 tests), and `node
scripts/check-maps.mjs`.
- Passed: validators for both new skills, `pnpm check:token-gates`,
`pnpm -r typecheck`, and `pnpm build`.
- Passed: final Storybook build; nine selected browser `play` cases;
three fast-response render cases; feature-guide search/link navigation;
question-fixture reset on reload.
- Built-index comparison preserved all 2,208 original story IDs and
added only two new regression cases.
- Passed: `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/ui` (728 files,
8,176 tests).
- The full `pnpm test:run` has reported a 15-second timeout in the
untouched backend case `connects advertised Workspace gmail.read without
mutating definitions in authenticated`. The exact test passed standalone
without changing code, expectations, or timeouts. The remaining broad
run was stopped after this failure. The full suite is not verified.
- Visual comparison is blocked by the existing empty baseline manifest.
The managed-accounts API/DB fixture was not started. See
`maps/storybook-map/REVIEW.md` for exact scope.

## Risks

- This is an initial inventory and targeted audit. 188 suites still
require deeper state and fixture parity review.
- Review hashes cover declared dependencies. They do not follow all
transitive production imports or prove semantic correctness.
- The catalog requires upkeep when stories, mapped recipes, or declared
subjects change. Shared mocks still need feature-by-feature contract
review.
- No production application source, database schema, or upstream
feature-map contract changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex. Used reasoning, shell tools, file editing, and
Chromium browser verification. The exact runtime model ID and context
window are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 7d9b93aee2 docs: establish paired feature and agent access maps (#16025)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Contributors use the feature map to understand and verify product
capabilities.
> - Agents need APIs and usable entry points within their permission
boundaries.
> - Product recipes and agent access need separate records with shared
capability IDs.
> - This pull request establishes that contract and gives maintenance
ownership of both maps.
> - The benefit is repeatable access review without changing product
behavior or permissions.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #15983, which added the portable verification skills and updated
the feature map. This is its contract-only follow-up. Related: #15288
added the original feature map.

**Issue type**

Missing documentation and maintenance contract.

**Where is the issue?**

The product map, its missing agent access companions, and the
verification skills.

**What's wrong?**

There is no shared convention for API presence, agent entry points,
permission boundaries, access gaps, or evidence. An API declaration does
not prove that a permitted native or remote agent can use it.

**Suggested fix**

Keep the product and agent access maps as siblings under `maps/`. Reuse
capability IDs. Record representative source inventory separately from
operation review and live proof. Keep both maps aligned through the
maintenance skill.

## What Changed

- Move the existing product map to `maps/feature-map/`. Preserve its
recipes and Poteto format. Update relative links and add companion
links.
- Add `maps/agent-access-map/` with 35 area files and 171 matching
capability IDs. Seed representative API operations, agent paths,
policies and known gaps from the reviewed source inventory. Mark entries
as `baseline`, `source-only`, and live verification `not-run`.
- Define the shared contract in `maps/README.md`. Track API presence,
agent availability, policy, evidence and review depth separately.
Require operation enumeration before marking a broad capability
operation-reviewed.
- Extend `maintain-verification-skill` to reconcile both maps and
inspect actual route policy and production tool admission. Update
creation, verification, notices and contributor references to use the
shared contract.
- Add `scripts/check-maps.mjs` and ten regression tests. Check matching
areas/IDs, indexes, references, contract fields, API method/path
examples, justified exceptions and evidence-state consistency.
- Keep the coverage inventory unchanged. Preserve skill invocation
policies and both MIT license blocks. No product API, permission, UI,
runtime helper, migration, dependency or workflow changes.

## Verification

- Passed: `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` reports 35 paired areas and 171
matching capability IDs. All local map references resolve.
- Passed: `node --test scripts/check-maps.test.mjs` runs ten tests.
Fixtures cover missing companions, renamed/orphan/duplicate IDs, broken
references, missing operation fields, empty exceptions, missing API
examples, empty policy fields, and verified evidence without passed
verification.
- Passed: metadata validation for all three verification skills. Skill
and contributor links resolve. Invocation policies and both license
blocks are unchanged.
- Compared relocated recipes with current master. Contents differ only
in relative links and companion links. `coverage.json` is byte-for-byte
unchanged. Master's updated read-only interaction test reference is
retained.
- Passed: `git diff --check`. The branch starts from current master and
contains only this contract change.
- Repository-wide typecheck, tests and build were not run locally for
this documentation and Node structural-check scope. Live agent access
was not exercised. Those gaps are explicit in the baseline entries; the
structural check does not certify behavior. CI and automated review are
pending.

## Risks

- The companions are representative source baselines. They are not
complete operation inventories or passed agent journeys.
- The checker cannot establish actual permissions, native tool
admission, operation completeness or truthful live evidence. Maintenance
must inspect source and verify with the actual permitted agent context.
- External links to the old product-map directory may need updates.
Repository references have been updated.
- Existing access gaps and board/user restrictions remain recorded. This
contract does not change authority or implement missing paths.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with this change. The session does
not expose the exact serving model ID, configured context-window size,
or reasoning setting. Capabilities used: source analysis, file edits,
shell commands, and structural regression tests.

DottaandPaperclip 45862dd210 docs: add a product feature map (#15288)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its user journeys span tasks, agents, projects, connected apps,
governance, and CLI operations.
> - Existing tests do not provide a shared index of entry points and
verification steps.
> - Contributors need to see which surfaces a change affects and what
evidence exists.
> - This pull request adds an optional product feature map with recipes
and explicit coverage gaps.
> - The map adds no CI checks or required maintenance for future pull
requests.
> - Contributors can use it to find verification steps and state what
they checked.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Issue type**

Missing documentation.

**Where is the issue?**

User-journey verification guidance in AGENTS.md and doc/DEVELOPING.md.

**What's wrong?**

There is no shared index of product features, user entry points,
available test evidence, and remaining coverage gaps. Shared components
can hide differences between their hosts.

**Suggested fix**

Add a documentation-only capability index and verification recipes. The
format takes inspiration from [Omnigent's feature
map](https://github.com/omnigent-ai/omnigent/tree/91acfbbb59f6fc210ff95a9e9428aadd62e06582/feature-map).
The recipes describe Paperclip's own behavior and tests.

Searched GitHub PRs and issues for `feature map` and `feature-map`. No
duplicate change was found. Checked ROADMAP.md. This PR documents
existing capabilities.

## What Changed

- Added 35 feature recipes, 171 named sub-features, and 91 entry points
across product, CLI, operator, and developer surfaces.
- Each recipe describes setup, expected results, existing automated
evidence, manual verification, and coverage gaps.
- Added a dated source snapshot of 185 non-test page TSX modules in 15
areas. The snapshot describes documentation coverage, not runtime
health.
- Included entry points within existing pages, CLI/API operations, and
experimental surfaces. Identified helper-only test evidence where a
rendered journey has no automated proof.
- Linked the map from AGENTS.md and doc/DEVELOPING.md as an optional
reference.
- The final diff contains only Markdown and the inventory JSON. It adds
no checker, tests, package commands, workflows, dependencies, scheduled
work, or mandatory inventory updates.

## Verification

- PASS: local documentation links resolve and the inventory JSON parses.
Confirmed the final PR diff contains only 39 documentation files.
- PASS: `node --test '.github/scripts/tests/*.test.mjs'` — 381 existing
tests after removal of the feature-map tests.
- PASS: `git diff --check`.
- Earlier local build and typecheck passed. The full local test run was
stopped after 26 minutes with failures in unchanged chat-channel and
native-runner integration tests. It did not complete. These application
checks were not repeated for the documentation-only removal.
- [CI on the preceding
head](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37398407523)
passed all applicable checks. Checks on the final documentation-only
head are pending.
- PASS: Greptile review on final head
`45c4b0aeb26540324825da43e81bee2336ad1c1f` is 5/5. There are no
unresolved findings.
- Live product/provider journeys were not run to author the map. The
recipes identify available evidence and manual steps, not new
qualification results.

## Risks

Low product risk: the PR changes documentation only. Recipes and the
source snapshot can become stale. Maintenance is optional and based on
review. Linked tests do not prove that every documented journey works.
The map states remaining coverage gaps.

## Model Used

use, and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context window
were not exposed in this session.

Devin Foley f38b5693f6 fix: always enable keyboard shortcuts (#14643)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The web UI has keyboard shortcuts for the inbox, task lists, cases,
and task detail, plus global shortcuts such as `c`, `/`, `?`, `[`, and
`]`
> - Shortcut enablement was an instance-wide General setting until
#14141 moved it to a per-user preference that defaults to off
> - The move did not carry the old instance value over, so every
existing user lost shortcuts on upgrade and had to find a new toggle
under Profile settings
> - A toggle that only turns off a standard, input-safe feature costs a
setting, a database column, two API routes, and a React context for
little benefit
> - This pull request removes both the instance setting and the personal
preference and enables keyboard shortcuts for every signed-in user
> - The benefit is one less thing to configure, no silent loss of
shortcuts on upgrade, and less code to maintain

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #14141 (the change that introduced the personal preference).

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Keyboard shortcuts in the web UI stay off unless each user turns them on
in Profile settings.

**Subsystem affected**

Web UI shortcuts, Profile settings, instance general settings, the
`/api/auth/preferences` routes, and the `user` table.

**Current behavior**

Shortcuts default to off per user. #14141 moved the toggle from Instance
settings → General to Profile settings and did not carry the old
instance value over. Users who had shortcuts on lost them after the
upgrade and had to find the new toggle.

**Proposed behavior**

Keyboard shortcuts are always enabled for every signed-in user. There is
no instance setting and no personal preference. Shortcuts already ignore
key presses inside text inputs and modal dialogs, so an opt-out is not
needed.

**Reason and benefit**

Fewer settings, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and removal of a
database column, two API routes, a query hook, and a React context that
existed only to gate this feature.

**Breaking changes**

`GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences` are removed. `PATCH
/api/instance/settings/general` no longer accepts `keyboardShortcuts`;
that schema is strict, so the key now returns 400.
`instance.general.keyboardShortcuts` is no longer a valid
`PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` key; the parser ignores unknown keys with a
warning.

## What Changed

- Removed the Keyboard shortcuts section from Profile settings, the
`useUserPreferences` hook, `queryKeys.auth.preferences`, and
`authApi.getPreferences` / `authApi.updatePreferences`.
- Removed `GeneralSettingsContext`. The inbox, legacy inbox, task list,
legacy task list, cases, and task detail pages no longer gate their key
handlers.
- Removed the `enabled` option from `useKeyboardShortcuts`. The app
shell always registers the global shortcuts.
- Removed `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences`, their OpenAPI
entries, and the `currentUserPreferencesSchema` /
`updateCurrentUserPreferencesSchema` validators.
- Removed `keyboardShortcuts` from `InstanceGeneralSettings`, the
general settings zod schema, the settings service defaults, and
`HIDEABLE_GENERAL_SECTIONS`.
- Added migration `0289_drop_user_keyboard_shortcuts`, which drops
`user.keyboard_shortcuts`.
- Updated `AGENTS.md`, `doc/SPEC.md`, `doc/SPEC-implementation.md`, and
`docs/deploy/environment-variables.md`.
- Parsed the stored general settings row with
`instanceGeneralSettingsSchema.strip()` in the feedback vote path, so a
retired key left in the row cannot reset the sharing preference to
`prompt` and overwrite the stored choice.
- Kept every bare global shortcut (`c`, `?`, `[`, `]`, `/`) out of open
modal dialogs in `useKeyboardShortcuts`; only `/` had that guard before.
- Updated the affected tests and added a Profile settings test that
asserts the toggle is gone, a hook test for the modal dialog guard, and
a feedback service regression test for the retired-key case.

## Verification

- Typecheck passes for `@paperclipai/shared`, `@paperclipai/db`
(including the migration numbering and safety checks),
`@paperclipai/server`, and `ui`.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/sentry.test.ts` → 119 passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/ProfileSettings.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Cases.test.tsx
ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/InstanceGeneralSettings.test.tsx` → 286 passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.test.ts`
→ 16 passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx` → 7
passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/feedback-service.test.ts`
(embedded Postgres) → the new retired-key test passes with the fix and
fails without it.
- Manual: sign in with no settings changed, open the inbox, press `j`
and `k` to move the selection, press `?` to open the cheatsheet. Open
Settings → Profile and confirm there is no Keyboard shortcuts section.

## Risks

- The migration drops a column. It uses `DROP COLUMN IF EXISTS`, and the
column has no readers after this change. If you roll back to a build
from before this PR after the migration has run, re-add the column
first: `ALTER TABLE "user" ADD COLUMN "keyboard_shortcuts" boolean
DEFAULT false NOT NULL;`. The older build's ORM selects that column when
it loads users.
- Any external client that still sends `keyboardShortcuts` to `PATCH
/api/instance/settings/general` receives a 400. No in-repo client does.
- Stored `instance_settings.general.keyboardShortcuts` values are
stripped on read and ignored.
- Users who never turned the toggle on now get shortcuts. The handlers
skip text inputs, contenteditable regions, and modal dialogs, so typing
is unaffected.

DottaandPaperclip 924f07be8c feat(chat): simplify Slack onboarding and account linking (#13638)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Chat connections let people start and continue that work from Slack.
> - Setup mixed app creation, credentials, URL verification, account
linking, and testing on the same screens.
> - People also needed a safe way to link their own Slack identity after
the first operator finished setup.
> - This pull request gives each step a clear place and keeps membership
approval separate from identity linking.
> - It also makes connection details easier to use and fixes misleading
callback health behind HTTPS proxies.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**
Cross-cutting: chat routes and services, shared contracts, and the Apps
board UI.

**Problem or motivation**
Slack onboarding made users find settings without enough guidance. A
second user needed operator help to link their account. Activity stopped
at 100 records, and TLS termination could mark working callbacks as
stale.

**Proposed solution**
Use six setup steps with editable app names, a generated manifest,
credential guidance, URL verification, account linking, and an optional
message test. Send each Slack user a private, expiring confirmation
link. Require company membership or an approved access request before
linking. Add cursor pagination and tolerate the internal HTTP hop in
callback diagnostics.

**Roadmap alignment**
This improves the existing connected-app surface and supports CEO Chat
without changing the task-and-comments model. The maintainer requested
and reviewed the flow during a live Slack test drive.

**Additional context**
Related work: #7, #3349, #13000, and #13620. Those cover broader chat
capabilities, older webhook paths, or plugins. This PR improves the
existing native connector's setup and account-linking flow. HTTPS
documentation was published separately in
paperclipai/paperclip-docs#128.

## What Changed

- Split Slack onboarding into six clickable sidebar steps. Keep
secondary and primary actions on one row.
- Generate the Slack creation link and read-only manifest from editable
app, bot, and command names. Add credential prefix validation and direct
instructions.
- Add live account-link status and an optional mention-based message
test.
- Add private, single-use Slack account invitations and membership
access requests. Retain cloud authentication/bootstrap checks and
enforce the chat rollout flag in all identity APIs. Default new Slack
connections to linked users only.
- Put Settings, Access, Conversations, and Activity in the sidebar.
Simplify conversation rows and remove active header badges.
- Add 25-item activity pages, stable timestamp/ID cursors, and replay
safety across pages. Preserve the legacy array API for clients without
pagination parameters.
- Fix false callback warnings when HTTPS terminates at a proxy. Keep
host, port, and path drift detection.
- Document the setup flow, pagination, callback diagnostics, and shared
wizard footer rule.

## Verification

- Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm
check:token-gates`.
- Passed: focused Slack callback and pagination integration tests; UI
clipboard, wizard, pagination, and activity tests; OpenAPI route tests.
The final access-gate fix also passes 27 focused tests covering cloud
authentication/bootstrap, nonmember invitations, token validity, and the
server-enforced rollout flag.
- Passed: all 1,002 chat integration tests, 6,356 UI tests, and all 11
provider browser scenarios (including mobile light/dark navigation).
After rebase, the identity route, sidebar, and 25 clipboard tests pass.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted. The first run found 14
Slack fixtures that needed explicit guest access; those are fixed and
the complete chat suite passes. Unrelated embedded PostgreSQL
startup/resource failures and timeouts prevented a clean full local run.
All CI checks pass on `2d858b036`, including the full chat, server,
workspace, build, typecheck, and browser suites.
- Live test drive: Slack app creation, credential setup, URL
verification, private account confirmation, mention messages, and thread
replies. Verified the callback warning clears for the existing proxied
connection.
- Review: create a Slack connection, follow the six steps, link a second
user's account, and browse older activity with Next and Previous.

## Risks

- Identity invitations carry a temporary capability. Tokens are hashed,
expire after 15 minutes, work once, and require explicit confirmation by
a company member. Access requests do not grant membership.
- New Slack connections reject unlinked people by default. Existing
connection settings remain intact.
- Activity is a live ledger. Updated action rows can move forward in
time. Older pages do not poll.
- Proxy tolerance affects health display only. Slack signature checks
and proxy authentication settings remain unchanged.
- No database migration or package-lock changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and browser verification. The runtime does not expose an
exact model build ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 728f7185f6 feat: add native in-app announcements with persistent dismissal (#13403)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Self-hosted boards need a way to show occasional product
announcements.
> - An app release should not be required to publish or withdraw a card.
> - Native card controls keep publishing consistent; the hero can use a
static image or isolated HTML/CSS animation.
> - This pull request renders a validated JSON feed with native
components.
> - It stores dismissals per account on each instance, so a closed card
stays closed across companies and browsers.
> - Named staging feeds let authors test content before production
publication.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Board application shell, announcement delivery, and user preferences.

**Problem or motivation**

Operators need a small, optional announcement card. Users need reliable
dismissal state. Authors need to test remote content without changing
the production feed.

**Proposed solution**

Add one non-modal AnnouncementWell. Fetch validated JSON and
content-addressed media through the instance server. Keep card controls
native, with optional sandboxed HTML/CSS animation in the hero. Use
stable announcement IDs for dismissal, an explicit empty manifest and
quiet 404 handling. Provide a staged publishing helper and isolated
test-drive guide.

**Alternatives considered**

Hosting the entire card as a page would move navigation and dismissal
into remote content. This change limits HTML to a scriptless, isolated
visual hero and keeps controls native. Browser-only storage would lose
dismissals across browsers, so the instance stores account preferences.

**Roadmap alignment**

ROADMAP.md has no overlapping announcement feature. A GitHub title
search found no related announcement pull requests. This work implements
a maintainer-requested feature.

## What Changed

- Add shared feed types, strict validation of every object, supported
routes, expiration and version checks.
- Add a board-only current-feed API, constrained media proxy, and
idempotent dismissal API. Store the first dismissal and its company
audit entry in one transaction.
- Cache upstream data for one hour. Use conditional requests, request
deduplication, response limits, public destination checks, and a
three-second deadline. Treat a remote 404 as an empty feed with a
fifteen-minute retry cooldown.
- Keep announcement visibility stable when focus moves to browser chrome
or another app pane; only tab visibility starts a return check.
- Add a responsive native announcement card. Respect onboarding, dialogs
and toast placement. Sync pending dismissals across tabs and retry after
reconnect or return.
- Add idempotent migrations for dismissals and validated publication
IDs, design-guide examples, static and animated Storybook examples, and
focused tests. The publication registry supports offline retries without
accepting caller-invented IDs.
- Add HTML/CSS animated heroes with static posters, automatic playback,
reduced-motion handling, strict DOMPurify validation, an empty iframe
sandbox and CSP that blocks scripts/network resources.
- Add validated staging publication, content-addressed assets, an empty
production manifest, preview fixtures, and authoring/operator
documentation.

## Verification

- The preceding implementation passed 98 targeted
shared/server/publisher/route/OpenAPI/UI tests and 127 tests including
the master rebase. The playback-control removal passes all 21
announcement UI tests, covering the rendered sandbox, fallback, reduced
motion, dismissal and slow/stale state lookups. The preceding
shared/server tests cover HTML validation and response sandbox headers.
- The playback-control removal passes UI typecheck, production UI build,
Storybook build and token gates locally. Browser verification confirms
the animated card has only its dismiss button and two links, with no
page errors. The full canonical CI matrix passed on current head
`00e416431edb610861599d50490270bbd0f3c6b6`: 32 successful checks and two
optional Storybook deployment checks skipped. This run needed no
retries. Greptile reviewed this same head at 5/5 with no outstanding
findings.
- The local canonical general-server run passed 12,063 tests before
reporting embedded-PostgreSQL startup failures in an unrelated fixture.
All 31 tests in that fixture passed across isolated retries. The UI
group passed 6,219 tests and other workspace groups passed 3,201; two
CLI database-startup failures also passed individually. Serialized
server suites were verified by the full CI matrix rather than repeating
them locally. No source changes were needed for these environment
failures.
- The real S3/CloudFront staging manifest and both media asset headers
were verified. Production remains empty/unpublished. The guide
distinguishes the preview host's disabled edge cache from production
cache requirements.
- In the isolated test-drive, the animation visibly moves without
playback controls. A 390×844 browser viewport keeps the card above
navigation. Reduced motion makes no animation request. Both themes
render correctly and browser page errors are empty. Browser fault
injection verified that scripts cannot execute and CSS cannot make
network requests; a missing animation leaves its poster and controls.
- Refresh leaves the animated card visible. Closing it persists after
reload and the API returns null. Earlier live checks verified dismissal
across browsers, company-relative CTA navigation, modal
deferral/restoration, and new-ID eligibility after restarting the same
database.
- The deployed empty feed and a real remote 404 return HTTP 200 with
null from the board API, with a usable dashboard and no announcement
popup or browser warnings.
- Authoring documentation covers staging, animated HTML constraints,
test-drive, withdrawal, ID reuse and cache-refresh steps.

## Risks

- Animation supports self-contained visual HTML/CSS and inline SVG,
without JavaScript or external resources. A static image is required.
Older builds that do not recognize the optional animation field quietly
hide that unsupported feed.
- The default feed makes an outbound request from an instance when a
board is used. Operators can disable it. Requests contain no account
IDs, company data, cookies or interaction events.
- Feed publication and withdrawal can take about 65 minutes to reach
returning users because of CDN and instance caches. Expiration also
removes visible cards locally.
- Dismissals follow an account within one instance. No-login instances
share the existing local-board identity. Separate installations do not
share state.
- Both tables are additive. A unique key prevents duplicate dismissals;
the transaction prevents duplicate first-dismissal audit entries. The
publication registry retains only validated IDs. AGENTS.md and the
implementation spec document the required exception to company scope for
these instance-level records.
- Publication was limited to separate public staging prefixes on the
existing preview host. Production remains empty/unpublished. No AWS
policies or infrastructure were changed.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime model ID and
context-window size are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used:
reasoning, code editing, shell execution, tests, browser interaction,

Dotta a560b48d6d feat(apps): refine Postman and Shopify setup (#12357)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools.
> - Provider catalogs must match each provider's current protocol and
credential contract.
> - Postman method labels and API-key placement were outdated.
> - Shopify now offers a UCP commerce endpoint that needs a managed
agent-profile argument.
> - This pull request updates both providers and documents the complete
connection-authoring workflow.
> - The benefit is accurate setup, safer runtime defaults, and a
repeatable provider review process.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 10 of 11. It depends on stack 9 and preserves the final
catalog work recovered from #11965.

Related: #5904 covers Shopify skill routing. This pull request covers
the Apps connection contract instead.

## What Changed

- Update Postman hosted MCP methods, capability choices, default
selection, and bearer-token placement.
- Add Shopify UCP commerce and Storefront compatibility methods with
public-store prerequisites.
- Inject the reviewed Shopify UCP agent profile at runtime and remove
that managed field from user input schemas.
- Classify Shopify checkout completion and cancellation as destructive
actions.
- Expand the connection authoring runbook from provider research through
verification and pull request handoff.
- Add focused shared, server, and UI coverage.
- Make the approved-execution waiter phase-aware so slow preparation
cannot consume the provider execution timeout and grace period.
- Settle legacy pre-execute-on-approve requests and invocations as
failed, clear their stale idempotency key, and allow a fresh governed
approval instead of leaving work stuck in `executing`.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts
ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx -t
"Postman|Shopify|normalizeConnectionMethodConfig|classifyRisk"` (16
passed)
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/services/approved-execution-wait.test.ts` (4 passed)
- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts -t
"enforces policy, approvals, retries, rate limits, and company
boundaries for connected remote MCP calls"` (1 passed)
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway-service.test.ts` (21 passed; includes
legacy approval settlement and fresh-approval recovery)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm build`

## Risks

- Shopify UCP calls now include a Paperclip-managed agent profile that
overrides caller input at the same path.
- Postman EU credentials now use the hosted MCP server's bearer-token
contract instead of the general REST API header.
- The catalog generator and checked-in definitions change together to
prevent regeneration drift.
- Approved execution preparation has an explicit two-minute bound;
provider execution retains its own 65-second timeout and persistence
grace starting from durable provider start.
- Legacy approvals created before execute-on-approve are intentionally
terminalized and must be requested again under the current signed
contract.

> I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This provider update does not duplicate
planned core work. The related open Shopify PR addresses skill routing,
not Apps connections.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime exact model ID and context window were
not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip d1573244b5 refactor: disambiguate the Telemetry and Observability data paths (#12128)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Paperclip records first-party events, OpenTelemetry data, and local
run-log events
> - The code and documents used one term for these three data paths
> - This naming made the required review level unclear
> - This pull request names each data path in the module names,
documents, and code comments
> - The benefit is a clear review rule without a runtime change

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Issue type**

Unclear or confusing.

**Where is the issue?**

`packages/shared/src/telemetry/README.md`, `doc/observability.md`,
`doc/run-log-events.md`, and the duplex instrumentation modules.

**What's wrong?**

The repository used Telemetry for first-party events, OpenTelemetry
data, and local run-log events. This usage made the data path and review
level unclear.

**Suggested fix**

Use Telemetry only for Paperclip first-party events. Use Observability
for OpenTelemetry data. Use the run log for rows in
`heartbeat_run_events`.

Related public pull requests: #8476 and #9672.

## What Changed

- Rename the duplex instrumentation modules and identifiers from
`Telemetry` to `Observability`.
- Move the Observability and run-log contracts out of the Telemetry
README.
- Add `doc/observability.md` and `doc/run-log-events.md` as the
canonical documents.
- Add a file-path review rule to `AGENTS.md`.
- Correct the remaining code comments that name the wrong data path.
- Keep all event names, payloads, database records, spans, configuration
keys, environment variables, and runtime paths unchanged.

## Verification

- `npx vitest run packages/shared/src/telemetry/readme-contract.test.ts`
passes.
- `npx vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/published-exports.test.ts`
passes.
- `npx vitest run
packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/startup-timing.test.ts` passes
with 42 tests.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` passes.
- `pnpm --filter server typecheck` passes.
- The old module name does not remain in TypeScript or JSON files,
except for the intentional publication guard.
- CI and Greptile checks remain pending after PR creation.

## Risks

- The old duplex module subpath no longer has a compatibility shim. The
board accepted this intentional hard break.
- The new duplex module subpath stays blocked from package publication.
- The change has no runtime effect. The main risk is an incorrect
document or module reference.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5`, with tool use and code
review support.

Santhi Prakash 1e44e50360 docs: remove leaked fork-specific section from AGENTS.md (#9935)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - `AGENTS.md` is the contributor guide read by every human and AI
agent before making changes
> - Section "## 11. Fork-Specific: HenkDz/paperclip" describes a
downstream fork's own dev setup (custom ports, NTFS quirks, fork-only
QoL patches) but was accidentally left in the upstream
`paperclipai/paperclip` copy of AGENTS.md
> - This causes two concrete problems: (1) it duplicates the "## 11."
heading number with the preceding "Definition of Done" section, and (2)
it tells contributors/agents working on the real upstream repo to follow
fork-only instructions (e.g. "Fork runs on port 3101+ (auto-detects if
3100 is taken by upstream instance)") that don't apply here and could
cause confusion during setup
> - This PR removes the leaked fork-specific section entirely, which
also resolves the duplicate numbering as a side effect
> - The benefit is a cleaner, correct AGENTS.md with no duplicate
section numbers and no instructions that reference a different
repository

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #4188 — that issue's "Proposed behavior" section explicitly calls
out this same duplicate-`§11` numbering bug in AGENTS.md ("Definition of
Done and Fork-Specific HenkDz section both numbered §11") as one
incidental item inside a much larger proposal (issue templates, triage
labels, PR-link enforcement workflows). That issue is still open.

Related PRs (checked before opening this one):
- #4189 — closed, not merged. Would have addressed the broader
issue-templates work.
- #4260 — closed, not merged. Would have expanded CONTRIBUTING.md and
issue templates.
- #7522 — merged (2026-06-05). Added the search-first / linked-issue /
gates guidance to CONTRIBUTING.md, but did not touch AGENTS.md and did
not remove the leaked section.

None of these removed the leaked "## 11. Fork-Specific:
HenkDz/paperclip" section — it is still present verbatim on `master` as
of this PR. This PR intentionally scopes down to just the AGENTS.md fix
so it can land as a small, independent, easy-to-review change rather
than waiting on the larger issue-template proposal.

## What Changed

- Removed the entire "## 11. Fork-Specific: HenkDz/paperclip" section
from `AGENTS.md` (Branch Strategy, Hermes (built-in), Local Dev, Fork
QoL Patches, Plugin System subsections) — this content describes a
personal fork's dev environment, not the upstream repo, and does not
belong in the file every contributor and agent reads first.
- No other files touched.

## Verification

- `grep -n "^## " AGENTS.md` now shows a single "## 11. Definition of
Done" with no duplicate section number.
- `grep -rn "HenkDz\|Fork-Specific" --include="*.md" .` (outside
`releases/*.md` changelog credits, which are unrelated and untouched)
returns nothing — confirms no other file references the removed section.
- Checked `ROADMAP.md` — no planned work overlaps this change (the only
AGENTS.md-related roadmap item, "Easy AGENTS.md configurations", is
marked done and is a general feature, unrelated to this cleanup).
- Searched open/closed PRs touching AGENTS.md and open issues mentioning
"HenkDz"/"Fork-Specific" — no duplicate or in-flight PR does this
specific removal (see Linked Issues section above).
- No code, schema, or behavior changes — this is a docs-only removal, so
no typecheck/test/build impact.

## Risks

Low risk. Docs-only change, single file, pure deletion of inapplicable
content. No behavior, schema, or API impact.

## Model Used

Claude Sonnet 5 (claude-sonnet-5), via Claude Code CLI. Standard
reasoning, no extended thinking mode. Used for repo exploration (fork,
clone, issue/PR search, verifying the section was still present and
unresolved on current `master`) and to author this fix and PR
description. All commits authored by the human contributor (Santhi
Prakash); no AI co-authorship attribution on commits.

Santhi Prakash 1f7b71067f docs: expand AGENTS.md repo map (cli, skills-catalog, teams-catalog, skills/) (#9960)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - `AGENTS.md` is the contributor guide every human and AI agent reads
first, and its "Repo Map" (§3) is meant to be the authoritative
one-line-per-package index of the codebase
> - `pnpm-workspace.yaml` lists `cli` as a first-class workspace
package, a direct sibling of `server` and `ui` (`packages: [..., server,
ui, cli]`)
> - The Repo Map documents `server/`, `ui/`, and every `packages/*`
workspace package (db, shared, adapters, adapter-utils, plugins) but
never mentions `cli/`, even though it's published as the `paperclipai`
npm package (`cli/package.json` → `"name": "paperclipai"`, bin
`paperclipai`) and is exercised directly from other parts of this same
file's setup flow (e.g. `pnpm paperclipai auth bootstrap-ceo` in
`doc/DEVELOPING.md`)
> - This is exactly the class of drift a prior commit (e186449f9, "docs:
update adapter list and repo map accuracy") fixed for the adapter
packages — a new top-level workspace package landed without updating
this list
> - This PR adds the missing one-line `cli/` entry, in the same format
as its neighbors
> - The benefit: a contributor or agent skimming §3 to understand the
codebase layout no longer gets an incomplete picture that omits an
entire published package

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No existing issue covers this. Following the "no issue exists" path with
a docs-drift description:

- **What happened:** `AGENTS.md` §3 ("Repo Map") lists every top-level
workspace package except `cli/`, even though `cli/` is declared as a
workspace package in `pnpm-workspace.yaml` (`packages: [..., server, ui,
cli]`) and ships as the published `paperclipai` CLI referenced elsewhere
in the same doc set (`doc/DEVELOPING.md`'s `pnpm paperclipai auth
bootstrap-ceo`).
- **Expected:** The Repo Map lists all first-class workspace packages a
contributor would need to know about, consistent with how
`packages/adapters`, `packages/adapter-utils`, and `packages/plugins`
were added in e186449f9 when those packages were introduced.
- **Repro:** Compare `pnpm-workspace.yaml`'s `packages:` list against
`AGENTS.md` §3 — `cli` is present in the former, absent from the latter.
- **Version/commit:** current `master` (`e1050c1a8` at time of writing).

Related PRs checked (none touch this):
- #9935 — open, mine, removes an unrelated leaked fork-specific section
(§11) from this same file. No overlap — that PR only deletes content at
the end of the file; this PR adds one line to §3.
- Searched `gh pr list --state all --search "AGENTS.md in:title"` and a
GraphQL body search for `AGENTS.md` — the other hits are all about a
different concept (per-agent runtime instruction bundles/templates the
product generates for AI agents it orchestrates), not this repo's own
root contributor guide.

## What Changed

- Added a one-line `cli/` entry to `AGENTS.md` §3 ("Repo Map"),
describing it as the published `paperclipai` CLI package, in the same
format as the existing `packages/*` entries.

## Verification

- `git diff` shows a single-line addition, no other content touched.
- Confirmed `cli` is a real top-level workspace package via
`pnpm-workspace.yaml` (`packages: [..., server, ui, cli]`) and
`cli/package.json` (`"name": "paperclipai"`, `bin: { paperclipai:
"./dist/index.js" }`).
- Confirmed the omission was real by diffing against `git log --follow
-p -- AGENTS.md` (commit e186449f9 added the other `packages/*` entries
but predates/doesn't cover `cli/`).
- Checked PR #9935 (my own other open PR, touches the same file) —
confirmed via `gh pr view 9935 --json files` that it only removes §11
content (0 additions, 42 deletions) and does not touch §3, so there's no
merge conflict or overlapping scope between the two.
- Docs-only, no code/schema/behavior change — no typecheck/test/build
impact.

## Risks

Low risk. Single-line documentation addition, no behavioral, schema, or
API impact.

## Model Used

c07e650cd7 feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets,
agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind
> - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at
~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending
on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two
toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no
visual regression coverage
> - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a
hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration
> - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer
in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed
by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate
retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs
> - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface:
retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked
by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed
visually without committing hundreds of PNGs

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens",
"visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in
spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of
the same problem class this PR addresses systematically).

**Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per
call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage;
consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file
edits.
**Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate
+ externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle
on top of that foundation.

## What Changed

- **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during
development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved
~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named
tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`.
- **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255
stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`,
plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes.
- **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed.
`tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable
archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs`
handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload`
flows.
- **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow
that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`,
downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright
report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate
baseline objects.
- **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero
arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**`
and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate
opt-outs.
- **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme
values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type
cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` +
Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps.
- **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills,
RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical
`--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces
that used dark-tuned text classes.
- **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form,
second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified.
- **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds
audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline
review/update workflows.
- Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical
contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames
(`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`).

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system
run
- `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green
during the design-system run
- `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` —
pass after external-baseline rework
- `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext
--moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types
node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts
tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after
external-baseline rework
- `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline
rework
- `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` —
`0`
- `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally
fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline
archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json`

## Risks

- **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to
mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot
churn has been removed from the branch.
- **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in
clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata.
A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then
update `baseline-manifest.json`.
- **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be
captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs
verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count
mismatch.
- **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual`
label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable
Playwright report/test-result artifacts.
- **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette
classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component
consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`.

## Model Used

Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with
extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical
phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline
rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository,
terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via
deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional
visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets.

DottaandPaperclip fd2f82ac5b [codex] Add built-in Hermes adapters (#8543)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent adapters are the boundary between the control plane and the
runtimes that actually do work.
> - Hermes support needs to be available as first-class local and
gateway adapters while still preserving the adapter-manager override
path for external packages.
> - The adapter work touches runtime execution, UI adapter metadata,
onboarding prompts, scoped credentials, release packaging, and smoke
coverage, so the handoff needs concrete verification rather than only
unit tests.
> - This pull request adds built-in Hermes local and Hermes gateway
support, keeps external adapter overrides compatible, and
documents/tests the gateway flow end to end.
> - The benefit is that operators can hire Hermes-backed agents without
a manual plugin install, while self-hosted installs can still
override/shadow the built-ins through Adapter manager packages.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this exact Hermes built-in adapter,
gateway onboarding, and release-source work.

Problem description:
- Hermes local and gateway adapters need a public, reviewable source
path in the monorepo so package artifacts and built-in adapter behavior
match the application source.
- Operators need built-in `hermes_local` and `hermes_gateway` adapter
choices without losing the ability to install external Hermes packages
as overrides.
- Gateway onboarding needs secure defaults for API server URLs, API
keys, and generated agent setup text.
- Hermes-originated task bridge credentials need narrower API-key scope
configuration.
- Related public PRs found during duplicate search include #3027, #2363,
#7544, #7950, #8095, and #8543.

## What Changed

- Added the unified Hermes adapter package with local and gateway
server/UI/CLI exports, config schemas, transcript parsing, model
detection, and package metadata.
- Registered `hermes_local` and `hermes_gateway` as built-in adapters
across shared constants, server registries, CLI packaging, and UI
adapter registries.
- Kept the external adapter override path compatible so installed Hermes
packages can shadow built-ins and restore the built-in parser when
disabled.
- Added Hermes gateway onboarding docs, board-operator docs, Docker
smoke assets, and shell smoke harnesses for join/e2e validation.
- Added scoped task-bridge API-key support, authorization checks,
issue-origin handling, and tests for Hermes-created Paperclip tasks.
- Hardened gateway transport and redaction behavior for API keys,
headers, session data, and smoke diagnostics.
- Updated release packaging/bootstrap checks for the Hermes packages
while leaving `pnpm-lock.yaml` out of the PR per repository policy.

## Verification

Targeted local verification recorded before PR handoff:
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter exec vitest run
src/gateway/server/execute.test.ts` — 14/14 passed.
- `pnpm test:hermes-gateway-smoke` — 6/6 passed.
- Hermes package typecheck/build checks passed.
- Focused server/UI adapter tests passed — 31/31.
- Release helper Node tests passed — 18/18.
- `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD` passed.

Fresh Docker E2E smoke evidence:
- Ran `pnpm smoke:hermes-gateway-e2e` on 2026-06-26 with a fresh state
directory and fresh Docker container against a live Paperclip dev
server.
- Hermes direct execution reached `completed`.
- Hermes stop/cancel path reached `cancelled`.
- Hermes gateway created a Paperclip task, Paperclip ran the Hermes
agent, and the task reached `done` with the expected marker response.
- Temporary board auth keys, token files, smoke state, and Docker
containers were cleaned up after the run.

PR checks on head `b5eae40ce`:
- GitHub Actions passed: `policy`, `review`, `Typecheck + Release
Registry`, all general test shards, all serialized server shards,
`Build`, `Canary Dry Run`, `e2e`, and aggregate `verify`.
- External checks passed: Snyk and Socket Project Report.
- External Socket Pull Request Alerts remained pending after the
first-party CI matrix completed.

## Risks

- Medium risk: this spans adapter registration, package publishing,
gateway execution, onboarding docs, API-key scoping, and UI adapter
metadata.
- Migration risk is low: the scope-config migration adds a nullable
column and does not rewrite existing keys.
- Gateway execution depends on operator-provided Hermes API
configuration; the smoke covers the Docker gateway path but real
deployments may differ by network/auth setup.
- Direct Greptile review on the latest expanded diff is file-count
limited, although the commitperclip review gate passed.

468edd8b22 Add workspace file viewer and artifact links (#7681)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent work is issue-centered, and reviewers often need to inspect
files, artifacts, and path references produced during that work.
> - Before this branch, workspace-relative paths and artifact file
references were not first-class inspectable objects in the board UI.
> - Safe file viewing needs shared resource contracts, server-side
workspace boundary checks, and UI that opens files without exposing
arbitrary host paths.
> - The workspace file viewer branch needed to stay as one active PR and
be rebased onto current `paperclipai/paperclip:master` for review.
> - This pull request adds the workspace file resource API, issue-page
file viewer and browser, markdown file-reference links, and artifact
file chips.
> - The benefit is that board users can inspect relevant files from
issue context while preserving workspace boundaries and auditability.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this branch. Internal Paperclip
issues: `PAP-1953`, `PAP-10539`, `PAP-10733`.

Problem / motivation:
- Board users need to open workspace-relative files mentioned by agents
or attached as work-product metadata without switching to a terminal.
- The UI needs to support both direct file-path opening and workspace
browsing/searching from an issue page.
- The server must enforce company access, workspace boundaries, size
limits, rate limits, and safe audit logging.

Related PR:
- Prior closed attempt: #4442
- Single active PR for this branch: #7681

## What Changed

- Added shared workspace file resource types, validators, and
workspace-file `resourceRef` metadata validation for work products.
- Added server routes/services for resolving, listing, and previewing
workspace-relative files with access checks, scan caps, list-specific
limits, and audit logging.
- Added the issue file viewer provider, sheet, workspace browser,
command-palette action, markdown workspace-file autolinks, and artifact
file chips.
- Updated issue workspace UI and stories/tests for file browsing and
workspace file opening.
- Rebased the branch onto current `paperclipai/paperclip:master` and
updated the existing single PR branch.
- Addressed current-head Greptile follow-ups by applying `offset`
consistently across search/recent/changed file listings, restoring
stopped-service port ownership checks before auto-port reuse, and
stabilizing the workspace browser pagination test.

## Verification

Current local verification after rebase to `public/master`:
- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/work-product.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/file-resources.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts
ui/src/components/FileViewerSheet.test.tsx
ui/src/components/FileViewerSheet.copy.test.tsx
ui/src/components/WorkspaceFileBrowser.test.tsx
ui/src/components/WorkspaceFileMarkdownBody.test.tsx
ui/src/context/FileViewerContext.test.ts
ui/src/lib/remark-workspace-file-refs.test.ts
ui/src/lib/workspace-file-parser.test.ts
ui/src/components/IssueWorkspaceCard.test.tsx` - 13 files passed, 197
tests passed.
- `pnpm -r --filter @paperclipai/shared --filter @paperclipai/server
--filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/WorkspaceFileBrowser.test.tsx`
- 1 file passed, 25 tests passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/file-resources.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts` - 2 files passed, 90
tests passed.
- `pnpm -r --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - passed.
- Confirmed branch is `0` behind and `46` ahead of current
`public/master` after rebase and follow-up commits.
- Confirmed the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml`.
- Confirmed the PR diff does not include `.github/workflows` changes.
- Searched GitHub for duplicate or related workspace file viewer
PRs/issues; #4442 is the prior closed attempt and this PR is the single
active PR for the branch.
- No screenshots were committed; the task explicitly asked not to add
design screenshots or images unless they were part of the work.

Current remote verification on head
`a698a7bc10137baf7d25bd5722e1d6e0343387c1`:
- Greptile Review - success, 64 files reviewed, 0 comments added, no
unresolved Greptile review threads.
- PR workflow `verify` - success.
- Typecheck + Release Registry, General tests, workspace test shards,
serialized server suites, Build, Canary Dry Run, e2e, Socket, and Snyk -
success.
- `security-review` - neutral, with output saying a draft advisory was
filed for maintainer review and is not a merge block.
- `commitperclip PR Review / review` - cancelled after the security gate
detected flags and timed out while creating/reviewing the advisory. I
reran it once and it cancelled the same way; no actionable code/test
failure was exposed in the job logs.

## Risks

- This is a broad UI/server feature PR, so review needs to pay attention
to route authorization, workspace boundary handling, and markdown
autolink false positives.
- Workspace browsing intentionally caps list results and scan depth;
very large workspaces may require users to refine search terms.
- Remote workspace preview remains unavailable until remote file-access
support is implemented.
- The neutral commitperclip security-review advisory needs maintainer
review, but the check output says it is not a merge block.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent in a Paperclip/Codex local tool-use
environment, medium reasoning, with shell/GitHub CLI tool use for branch
inspection, verification, rebase, PR update, Greptile review, and CI
inspection.

DottaandPaperclip 8f1cd0474f [codex] Improve transient recovery and Codex model refresh (#4383)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Adapter execution and retry classification decide whether agent work
pauses, retries, or recovers automatically
> - Transient provider failures need to be classified precisely so
Paperclip does not convert retryable upstream conditions into false hard
failures
> - At the same time, operators need an up-to-date model list for
Codex-backed agents and prompts should nudge agents toward targeted
verification instead of repo-wide sweeps
> - This pull request tightens transient recovery classification for
Claude and Codex, updates the agent prompt guidance, and adds Codex
model refresh support end-to-end
> - The benefit is better automatic retry behavior plus fresher
operator-facing model configuration

## What Changed

- added Codex usage-limit retry-window parsing and Claude extra-usage
transient classification
- normalized the heartbeat transient-recovery contract across adapter
executions and heartbeat scheduling
- documented that deferred comment wakes only reopen completed issues
for human/comment-reopen interactions, while system follow-ups leave
closed work closed
- updated adapter-utils prompt guidance to prefer targeted verification
- added Codex model refresh support in the server route, registry,
shared types, and agent config form
- added adapter/server tests covering the new parsing, retry scheduling,
and model-refresh behavior

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/adapter-utils
packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/adapter-claude-local
packages/adapters/claude-local/src/server/parse.test.ts`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/adapter-codex-local

server/src/__tests__/codex-local-execute.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts`

## Risks

- Moderate behavior risk: retry classification affects whether runs
auto-recover or block, so mistakes here could either suppress needed
retries or over-retry real failures
- Low workflow risk: deferred comment wake reopening is intentionally
scoped to human/comment-reopen interactions so system follow-ups do not
revive completed issues unexpectedly

DottaandPaperclip 7f893ac4ec [codex] Harden execution reliability and heartbeat tooling (#3679)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Reliable execution depends on heartbeat routing, issue lifecycle
semantics, telemetry, and a fast enough local verification loop to keep
regressions visible
> - The remaining commits on this branch were mostly server/runtime
correctness fixes plus test and documentation follow-ups in that area
> - Those changes are logically separate from the UI-focused
issue-detail and workspace/navigation branches even when they touch
overlapping issue APIs
> - This pull request groups the execution reliability, heartbeat,
telemetry, and tooling changes into one standalone branch
> - The benefit is a focused review of the control-plane correctness
work, including the follow-up fix that restored the implicit
comment-reopen helpers after branch splitting

## What Changed

- Hardened issue/heartbeat execution behavior, including self-review
stage skipping, deferred mention wakes during active execution, stranded
execution recovery, active-run scoping, assignee resolution, and
blocked-to-todo wake resumption
- Reduced noisy polling/logging overhead by trimming issue run payloads,
compacting persisted run logs, silencing high-volume request logs, and
capping heartbeat-run queries in dashboard/inbox surfaces
- Expanded telemetry and status semantics with adapter/model fields on
task completion plus clearer status guidance in docs/onboarding material
- Updated test infrastructure and verification defaults with faster
route-test module isolation, cheaper default `pnpm test`, e2e isolation
from local state, and repo verification follow-ups
- Included docs/release housekeeping from the branch and added a small
follow-up commit restoring the implicit comment-reopen helpers that were
dropped during branch reconstruction

## Verification

- `pnpm vitest run
server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issue-telemetry-routes.test.ts`
- `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/http-log-policy.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-log.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/health.test.ts`
- `server/src/__tests__/activity-service.test.ts`,
`server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-comment-wake-batching.test.ts`, and
`server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts` were attempted
on this host but the embedded Postgres harness reported
init-script/data-dir problems and skipped or failed to start, so they
are noted as environment-limited

## Risks

- Medium: this branch changes core issue/heartbeat routing and
reopen/wakeup behavior, so regressions would affect agent execution flow
rather than isolated UI polish
- Because it also updates verification infrastructure, reviewers should
pay attention to whether the new tests are asserting the right failure
modes and not just reshaping harness behavior

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex coding agent (GPT-5-class runtime in Codex CLI; exact
deployed model ID is not exposed in this environment), reasoning
enabled, tool use and local code execution enabled

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 2e09570ce0 docs: enforce Model Used section in PR descriptions (#2891)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Agents create pull requests as part of their development workflow
> - The PR template already has a "Model Used" section (added in PR
#2552)
> - But agents were not filling it in because neither AGENTS.md nor
CONTRIBUTING.md referenced it
> - This PR updates both docs to explicitly require reading and filling
in the full PR template, including Model Used
> - The benefit is that every PR will now document which AI model
produced the change, improving traceability and auditability

## What Changed

- **CONTRIBUTING.md**: Added "Model Used (Required)" subsection under
"PR Requirements (all PRs)" and listed it in the required sections
enumeration
- **AGENTS.md**: Added new "Section 10: Pull Request Requirements"
instructing agents to read and fill in every section of the PR template
when creating PRs (including Model Used). Renumbered "Definition of
Done" to Section 11 and added PR template compliance as item 5.

## Verification

- Review `CONTRIBUTING.md` — confirm "Model Used (Required)" subsection
appears under PR Requirements
- Review `AGENTS.md` — confirm Section 10 (Pull Request Requirements)
lists all required PR template sections including Model Used
- Review `AGENTS.md` — confirm Definition of Done item 5 references PR
template compliance
- No code changes, no tests to run

## Risks

- Low risk — documentation-only changes. No code, schema, or behavioral
changes.

## Model Used

- **Provider**: Anthropic Claude
- **Model ID**: claude-opus-4-6 (1M context)
- **Capabilities**: Tool use, code execution, extended context
