feat(sentry): add opt-in run failure reporting with saved run references (#16300)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent runs retain execution results and output in the instance. > - Operators can report run failures to Sentry for investigation. > - A backend Sentry DSN currently enables those reports with no separate choice. > - A repair bot also needs the exact instance, company, agent, and saved run. > - This pull request adds an explicit reporting mode and authenticated run references. > - The benefit is that operators can investigate every failure on selected deployments while keeping other deployments quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Optional server reporting of terminal agent run failures to Sentry. **Current behavior** A backend DSN enables run failure reports. Known account, quota, and connection failures are excluded. Reports omit company and agent references. Runs without a task are skipped. Tool-name collision errors omit the conflicting bindings. **Proposed behavior** Set `PAPERCLIP_SENTRY_RUN_FAILURES=unexpected` to retain the existing filters. Set it to `all` to report every failed or timed-out run, including known setup and quota failures. The default is `off`. Expected stops stay excluded. Each report supplies identifiers and API paths that a bot can use with its own authorized Paperclip connection. **Reason and benefit** Operators can enable broad failure reporting on one staging deployment. A bot can fetch the saved run, events, and logs instead of relying on a short error label or copying complete transcripts into Sentry. **Breaking changes** A backend DSN alone no longer enables run failure reports. Existing operators must set `PAPERCLIP_SENTRY_RUN_FAILURES=unexpected` to retain the previous policy. Ordinary server exception capture remains enabled by the DSN. Failure grouping gains the phase and original cause code when available. Refs #16281, #16297, #16298. These cover related tool discovery and failure diagnostics. This change retains their existing boundaries and does not depend on their open changes. ## What Changed - Add `off`, `unexpected`, and `all` modes. Missing and invalid values keep reporting off before diagnostic reads. - Keep the Sentry backend DSN and audited optional SDK requirements. - Include company, agent, run, and optional task identifiers. Include versioned paths for the saved run, events, log, and task. Add absolute run URLs only for a valid public HTTP(S) origin. - Report company runs without a task. Prefer the first-class issue binding when selecting the task reference. - Select saved native provider/model settings, timestamps, and original failure codes. Preserve gateway reason codes through redacted exception projection. - Group by error code, adapter, and available phase/cause. Keep run IDs and error text out of grouping. - Include the tool names and connection bindings in collision errors without copying tool schemas or provider metadata. - Document configuration, upgrade behavior, bot access, redaction, retention, and best-effort delivery. ## Verification - All 56 checks passed for `cccb47a721eaa1cc36e63278fc177b9101477541`. Two unrelated Storybook jobs were skipped by their path filters. No checks remain pending. - Complete [Paperclip CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38591422284): passed. This covers general and serialized tests, Runner checks, browser E2E shards, typecheck, build, release-registry checks, canary dry run, and Docker checks. - Greptile reviewed that exact head: 5/5, with no unresolved threads or actionable findings. Superagent, Socket, and Snyk checks passed. - Local focused reporting, diagnostics, collision, and real SDK contract tests: 410 passed across five suites. This includes the external-wake filter in both reporting modes. - The audited `@sentry/node@10.71.0` tests use an in-memory transport. No events were sent to Sentry. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed locally after the final rebase. - `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs` and `git diff --check`: passed. - The full local `pnpm test:run` command was stopped to avoid duplicating the complete CI shards. It did not finish locally. The full suite passed in CI. ## Risks - The new default disables existing run failure exports until the operator selects a mode. The upgrade setting is documented. - `all` can increase event volume and include known user-action failures. Secret redaction and diagnostic limits still apply. - Reporting remains asynchronous and best effort. This PR adds no durable delivery queue and does not install a bot or Sentry alert rule. - API references grant no authority. Existing company, private-task, and run-output checks still apply. Complete transcripts stay in Paperclip. - This changes optional Sentry error reporting. It changes neither first-party Telemetry nor OpenTelemetry span exports. It adds no database migration. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, shell, file editing, and test execution. The exact backend deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(github): retry and recover review publication (#16284)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work and its published results.
> - GitHub review bots publish task-bound assessments through governed
tools.
> - A review can survive a caller timeout because its publication intent
is durable.
> - A transient provider failure still returned a failed receipt before
recovery.
> - Gateway replay could return an empty cached result, and publication
retries had no dedicated scheduler deadline.
> - This pull request adds bounded retries, receipt recovery, and an
independent durable worker.
> - A temporary GitHub failure can recover without another review or
duplicate publication.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #16275. That change increased the GitHub tool deadline. This change
repairs retry and recovery behavior.
**What happened?**
A one-off GitHub HTTP 503 or 429 left the caller with a failed
publication receipt. The saved retry did not have its own scheduler
worker. An identical gateway call after a timeout could return an empty
cached result instead of the saved publication receipt.
**Expected behavior**
Temporary failures should retry under current authority. Pending work
should resume at its saved deadline after restart. Exact retries should
return the current receipt. Lost responses must not create duplicate
comments, findings, or checks.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Admit an advisory PR review request and begin its assessment.
2. Return HTTP 503 or 429 for the first summary-comment PATCH, then let
GitHub succeed.
3. Submit the assessment through the run-scoped tool gateway.
4. On master, the result says publication failed. With this change, the
same call returns the processed receipt and neutral check.
5. For receipt recovery, use a shorter caller deadline and repeat the
exact call after publication finishes.
**Paperclip version or commit**
Reproduced on master at `6cb6ac3b8e40cb90d734ba115a2f22f850ff9477`.
## What Changed
- Classify transient transport, server, and rate-limit failures. Honor
Retry-After and primary reset deadlines. Stop retries for permanent
permission and validation errors.
- Retry safe reads and installation-token issuance within a bounded call
window. Retry publication writes through the existing outbox and
provider receipt checks.
- Wait for up to three publication attempts within a 45-second retry
window. Keep the durable eight-failure cap and enforce saved deadlines
on explicit retries.
- Register an independent GitHub publication worker with
transaction-owned wake notifications, startup recovery, and per-PR lease
deadlines.
- Recover exact comment, progress, and assessment gateway calls from
their stored publication. Require the same company, agent, task, run,
connection, tool, arguments, and current policy. Clear stale timeout
errors after recovery. Approved exact retries read the current receipt
through the existing signed replay path; the worker retains the verified
approval for deferred writes and still rejects revocation.
- Add regression coverage and update the connector guide and
feature/access maps.
## Verification
- Red: both one-off HTTP 503 and 429 regressions failed on master with a
failed publication receipt.
- Green: the same tests passed after the change.
- GitHub review workflows: 133 covered against isolated PostgreSQL 18.
The final combined run passed 132 and hit one fifteen-second timeout
under concurrent build load. All three variants of that workflow passed
in isolation. The earlier combined run passed all 131 workflows before
the two approval regressions were added.
- Retry policy and delivery coordinator tests: 35 passed.
- Additional focused checks passed for the actual eight-failure cap,
exact-argument conflicts, policy revocation, and timeout receipt
recovery. The approved deferred-publication and revocation regressions
failed before the review repair and passed after it, with one approval
request preserved.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. `pnpm build`: passed. `node
scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed.
- The broad local `pnpm test:run` path remains blocked by the host's
exhausted PostgreSQL shared-memory slots. The changed database-backed
workflows use an isolated Docker database instead. All Paperclip CI jobs
passed at

fix(mcp): deduplicate discovered tool descriptors (#16281)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents receive governed app tools through the MCP gateway. > - GitHub review tasks can contain a PR discussion and inline finding threads. > - Discovery repeated each tool for every conversation linked to the task. > - Native tool registration treated these repeated descriptors as a fatal collision. > - This pull request lists GitHub tools once and deduplicates identical descriptors across providers. > - Agents can continue work while conflicting definitions and normal tool permissions remain enforced. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A follow-up run on a GitHub review task failed with `assigned_mcp_tool_name_collision` before the provider started. The task had a main conversation and an inline finding thread. Discovery returned the same seven tools twice. Repeated descriptors from other providers could cause the same failure. **Expected behavior** Discovery exposes each identical tool once. Separate connection names remain separate tools. Conflicting definitions remain an error. Every call still passes the gateway's policy, approval, revocation, and audit checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a GitHub review and publish an inline finding. 2. Send a follow-up request on the same PR task. 3. Inspect the task-bound bot catalog and the next native startup. 4. Separately, return two identical descriptors from an assigned app or plugin catalog. Related: #13717 added the GitHub review workflow. ## What Changed - Use a distinct GitHub discovery query across conversations that share an endpoint and task. Keep both thread mappings. - Deduplicate identical gateway descriptors by their full gateway name across providers. Use this rule for MCP listings, plugin listings, assigned-tool startup, and fresh assigned-tool discovery. - Reject conflicting descriptors with `tool_name_collision`. Keep the projected-name collision guard. - Cover GitHub inline-thread discovery, repeated plugin/app tools, direct and on-demand catalogs, revocation, conflicting bindings, and separate connection names. - Update the execution contract, GitHub documentation, and agent access map. ## Verification - Regression baseline: six new assertions failed on the original implementation. GitHub returned fourteen entries, plugin discovery repeated a tool, and native startup failed on repeated app tools. - Focused verification passed: 272 GitHub cases, all 29 assigned-tool cases, and all 88 gateway acceptance cases. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Current-head CI passed: 55 checks passed, two inapplicable checks skipped. Greptile scored the current head 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - Full local `pnpm test:run` encountered a 15-second timeout in the existing bearer-auth throttling test, before tool discovery. That test passed in the separate 88-case gateway run and on one isolated rerun. The duplicate broad local run was then stopped; the complete current-head CI matrix passed. ## Risks - Deduplication keeps the first identical descriptor and preserves listing order. Same-name descriptors with different definitions fail with HTTP 409 rather than selecting an ambiguous binding. - The GitHub query changes result cardinality. It retains the existing task/company/agent filters and leaves conversation rows intact. - No schema migration or credential change. Live staging recovery requires deployment and a new authorized run. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code inspection, editing, browser investigation, and test execution. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(github): allow review publication to finish before tool timeout (#16275)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its published results. > - GitHub review bots publish task-scoped assessments through the tool gateway. > - A submission saves its assessment and publication intent before it waits for GitHub. > - The gateway's ten-second default can expire while those provider requests continue. > - GitHub can then show a completed review while the agent receives a timeout and blocks its task. > - This pull request gives GitHub bot tools the existing sixty-second maximum by default. > - The caller can receive the confirmed publication result without manual task repair for ordinary slower responses. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A GitHub bot's `submit_review` call returned `504 tool_timeout`. Its saved assessment continued to publish a summary and completed check after the caller stopped waiting. The agent treated publication as unconfirmed and blocked the task. **Expected behavior** A valid GitHub response that takes longer than ten seconds should return its confirmed publication receipt within the gateway's supported deadline. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Configure a report-only GitHub review bot and admit a PR review request. 2. Delay the summary-comment PATCH response by eleven seconds. 3. Submit a complete assessment through a real run-scoped tool gateway. 4. Before this fix, the caller gets a timeout while the durable action publishes one summary and a neutral check. 5. With this fix, the caller gets `completed`, `processed`, and the assessment score. Retrying does not add another comment. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced from master at `2c17d3ca52a7840f280f1dd87975a2ad77de3b35`. Related changes: Refs #16259 and #16263. Those changes repaired connection recovery. This change addresses the subsequent submission deadline. ## What Changed - Use a sixty-second default for `paperclip_github_chat` tools in run execution and board tool tests. - Preserve explicit shorter deadlines and the existing maximum. - Add PostgreSQL-backed regressions through the real gateway for delayed publication, explicit deadlines, neutral checks, and duplicate prevention. - Document the deadline and the durable publication behavior. ## Verification - Red: the eleven-second publication regression failed with `ToolGatewayHttpError(504, tool_timeout)` after the summary and neutral check were published. - Green: the same regression passed after the repair. - GitHub review workflow suite: 122 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm test:run`: running; results will be recorded before handoff. - Live local verification is running against a dedicated test App on [the disposable test PR](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-permissions-smoke-20260926-pap57-fee7428e/pull/9). A test-only preload delays one real GitHub PATCH response by eleven seconds. It is not part of this change. ## Risks GitHub bot calls can occupy their execution slot for up to sixty seconds by default. Calls that exceed that limit can still time out. Durable publication may continue after any caller timeout, so a timeout alone is not proof of a failed write. This change does not add automatic task reconciliation for arbitrarily slow or unavailable providers. No schema or credential changes are required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code inspection, editing, test execution, and browser verification. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): retire requests for already available tools (#15856)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connection cards let users provide the access an agent needs. > - Users can complete setup in Apps while an earlier card stays pending. > - A stale card can then cancel recovery despite valid existing access. > - This change verifies existing access and expires the obsolete request. > - It records a system outcome and sends one durable continuation. > - Approval, identity, permission, and workspace recovery gates remain in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An ordinary tool connection request stayed pending after the addressed user connected the service in Apps. A later conversation retry was cancelled with `issue_waiting_for_response`. **Expected behavior** A request expires when the same user and requesting agent already have usable access. The agent gets a durable tool refresh. The system records no new human approval. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have an agent request a tool connection on an active task. 2. Connect the service through Apps with the addressed user's existing grant, agent install, and allowed tools. 3. Let a conversation run stop and retry. The pending card still blocks the retry on the base branch. Related: #12345 introduced the connection request flow. This fix uses its existing access checks and delivery queue. ## What Changed - Verify company, task ownership, user identity, membership, health, grants, installs, and task tool policy before expiring an ordinary request. - Preserve AI account, channel, additional permission, and upstream provider requests on their existing paths. - Save the system outcome, audit event, and continuation in one transaction. Notify an idle delivery worker when a request commits. - Recheck access and other questions or approvals before delivery, retry, final dispatch, and native projection. Refresh system observations for an authorized replacement account. - Rearm delivery when access changes before provider work starts. Verify the host's admission receipt against execution evidence before allowing retry without a repair incident. - Require the current delivery claim when marking an attempt complete. An old completion cannot overwrite a rearmed continuation. - Add embedded-Postgres regressions for permissions, policy, concurrency, restart, replacement accounts, both dispatch gates, and the delivery race. Keep genuine workspace repair holds blocking. ## Verification - Latest-head connection, wake-context, dispatch, and legacy recovery suites: 124 tests passed. The connection suite includes 44 real-Postgres cases. - Server typecheck passed. Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on the latest head. - `pnpm test:run` was run locally. Its general-server group passed 18,583 tests and failed 20. That long run started before the review fixes, then loaded new test cases against modules transformed before those fixes. The affected latest-head suites pass in a fresh process. - One full-run failure also reproduces on unchanged base commit |

feat(voice): add experimental Speko task connection runtime (#15727)
First PR: runtime. UI: #15728. Qualification: #15729.
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work through tasks and governed connections.
> - Chat connections already bind external conversations to those tasks.
> - Speko handles voice and telephony, while the selected Paperclip
agent does the work.
> - A call needs durable session authority, ordered follow-ups, and safe
result delivery.
> - This PR adds an explicit voice transport to the existing connection
runtime.
> - The UI and qualification suites follow in linked PRs. Speko stays
experimental.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Problem or motivation**
Phone and browser voice conversations cannot use the chat connection
task lifecycle. A separate voice runtime is needed to preserve task
authority, retries, and reply history.
**Proposed solution**
Add company-scoped voice sessions, signed callbacks, durable replies,
inbound intake, and an agent-facing outbound-call tool. Reuse existing
tasks, queues, secrets, and publications.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental chat connector entry points under Agent
Chat and Connected Apps. The project owner requested this feature.
Refs #11418 for the original provider catalog proposal. This
implementation uses the newer chat connection infrastructure rather than
an MCP catalog-only integration. Refs #15721 for remote OpenCode
startup.
## What Changed
- Add additive voice schema, shared contracts, session APIs, and
provider callbacks.
- Bind browser, inbound, and outbound sessions to an endpoint, task, and
selected agent.
- Add low-trust guest intake in an explicitly selected sandbox and keep
ordinary approval rules.
- Submit task work through session-scoped tools and push approved
replies through Speko POST /v1/calls/{id}/messages.
- Distinguish provider acceptance from confirmed spoken playback.
Reconcile reports without downloading recordings.
- Add protocol, migration, persistence, provider, and
delivery-diagnostic tests.

perf(server): wake delivery queues from transaction-aware work signals (#15625)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI-agent work and its delivery to users and agents. > - Five delivery queues scan the database even when empty. > - Each queue already has durable rows; empty polling wastes idle hosting capacity. > - Producers can register intent inside their existing database transaction. > - Central transaction tracking can wake consumers after the outer commit without extra caller wrappers. > - A lost response needs reconciliation against PostgreSQL before an empty queue is safe to leave idle. > - This change uses one scheduler for outstanding work and lets settled, empty queues go quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Supersedes the closed #15614. Related idle-safety work: #15522 and #15599. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Delivery scheduling for feedback exports, chat completions, connection continuations, question answers, and tool-action receipts. **Current behavior** Feedback scans every five seconds. Four delivery queues scan on the heartbeat interval, normally 30 seconds. Startup and some event paths also scan them. **Proposed behavior** Each producer awaits one intent registration before its queue write. The existing `createDb` transaction boundary tracks nested savepoints and wakes the consumer after outer settlement. Startup scans restore durable work. Pending rows, failures, and unresolved transactions retain retry deadlines. Empty, settled queues have no timer or recurring scan. **Reason and benefit** Normal delivery starts after commit. Central tracking removes caller-specific post-commit plumbing. PostgreSQL transaction status resolves lost responses without new tables or a permanent uncertainty latch. **Breaking changes** No API or schema changes. The notification scope is one DB owner and its dedicated child pools. Direct SQL, separate roots, and other processes require an explicit wake/recovery integration. This path requires PostgreSQL 14+ transaction-information functions; embedded PostgreSQL uses 18. ## What Changed - Add one named-deadline scheduler and app-owned coordinator for five existing queues. - Instrument `createDb().transaction()` centrally, including nested savepoints. Dedicated child connections share their owner's signal scope. - Register work before the five queue insert paths. The first registration obtains the outer XID; unrelated transactions issue no extra SQL. Tool receipt insertion gains a small transaction around its existing insert. - Query `pg_xact_status` only for rejected, tracked transactions. Probe before scanning the queue. Retain the idle hold while PostgreSQL still reports an in-progress transaction or the probe fails. Release it after settlement and reconciliation. - Remove unconditional delivery recovery scans and caller-specific completion post-commit actions. Retain the existing task-scoped completion activity fast path and durable claims. - Coalesce wakes without postponing an earlier deadline. Retry outstanding rows and failures; suppress dispatch during idle drain while allowing transaction and queue reconciliation; suppress both during warm standby. Cancel deadlines and await active delivery sweeps on shutdown. - Serialize feedback flushes. Vote routes return after saving. Uploads have a 30-second deadline and shutdown cancellation; unfinished exports remain recoverable. - Document the writer contract and update the dated sleep inventory. ## Verification - Final head: `a4609956841107ad60c4cb50fe2acb05636b1363`. - Passed: all final-head hosted checks, with 54 successes and two intentional skips. The full test matrix, typecheck, build, canary, and aggregate verification passed in [run 37940948440](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37940948440). - Passed: Greptile 5/5 on the same head, with a successful check run and zero unresolved review threads. The branch is mergeable. - Passed locally after the final rebase: 50 coordinator, scheduler, and startup tests; server typecheck; server build. - Passed locally before the final import-only rebase: repo-wide typecheck and build; 237 PostgreSQL producer/delivery and database signal tests; feedback, native-question, and idle-safety regression tests. - Real PostgreSQL tests hold transactions open after an injected client response loss, then commit or abort. They verify that an empty scan cannot clear an in-progress transaction. Another test terminates a real backend and verifies recovery without replay. - Coordinator tests cover an hour with no empty-queue timers, pending/error retries, worker replacement, concurrent writes, earliest-deadline preservation, rollback during idle drain, committed work during drain, standby, and shutdown. - Local `pnpm test:run` was started and stopped after embedded PostgreSQL startup failures appeared. It did not finish and is not reported as a pass. Later local database reruns had skipped suites; those skips are not claimed as verification. The earlier PostgreSQL tests did execute and pass, and the final hosted full matrix passed. ## Risks - One XID query is added per transaction that registers delivery work. Nested transactions share that ID. Registration must be awaited before writing; new enqueue paths must follow this contract. - Work signals are local to a DB owner and its dedicated child pools. Independent roots, direct SQL, or other processes are not observed. Startup scans recover already committed rows, but do not fence late transactions from a previous process. Cross-process ownership and database failover require separate work. - A database outage or genuinely unresolved transaction keeps an idle hold until status can be reconciled. No timer clears uncertainty by assumption. - These changes remove five empty polling loops. They do not implement whole-instance sleep, database teardown, or an external waker. The earliest deadline covers only the registered queues. - Waiting tool reviews retain their existing retry cadence until their receipts can be delivered. - Feedback vote responses no longer wait for the remote upload. Sharing consent and the saved vote response are unchanged. - Real hosting-provider sleep and cost savings have not been measured. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, and command execution. The runtime did not expose the exact model revision or context window. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add verified MCP providers and setup fixes (#15621)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give agents governed access to external tools. > - Several provider MCP servers lacked a supported catalog entry or failed during setup. > - Real browser tests identified specific registration, session, and form defects. > - This pull request adds seven catalog entries and fixes the shared paths used by eleven verified providers. > - Users can connect these providers through the existing Apps flow and control each action. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Apps catalog and remote MCP setup, discovery, and action tester. **Subsystem affected** Shared app definitions, the server tool services, and the Apps UI. **Current behavior** Seven providers lack a catalog entry. Airtable can select an advertised client-metadata flow that fails. Calendly rejects the registration name. Tavily needs an initialized session before a call. Firecrawl exposes invalid defaults for optional nested form objects. HTTPS setup can display a callback that differs from the server callback. **Proposed behavior** Add Calendly, Exa, Firecrawl, GSC Wizard, Parallel Search, Tavily, and Windsor.ai. Preserve Airtable, Linear, Make, and PostHog. Use reviewed provider options through the shared MCP and OAuth paths. Display the callback supplied by the server. Omit untouched optional object inputs. **Reason and benefit** Eleven providers passed bounded reads through the real Paperclip browser action tester. This PR includes that verified set and its required shared fixes. Unfinished providers remain outside this change. AgentMail keeps its existing integration. **Breaking changes** No database migration. Existing OAuth credentials and action policies keep their ownership and access rules. Airtable's reviewed method re-registers a retained client-metadata binding through DCR. Tavily's reviewed method initializes sessions before dispatch. The existing customer, managed, and Vercel OAuth gateway paths now refresh on upstream 401 and return `oauth_refreshed_retry_required` (409), requiring an explicit caller retry. They do not replay the rejected call automatically; the next invocation initializes a fresh credential-scoped session when required. Related catalog work: #15545. This branch preserves current master catalog entries and does not add another Google Workspace integration. Open and closed provider PRs and public MCP issues were searched. No duplicate for this verified set was found. The change extends the shipped Connected Apps roadmap item. ## What Changed - Add seven catalog entries with official provider branding and reviewed permissions. - Update Airtable, Linear, and Make metadata and show Make in Apps. - Add authoritative provider source overrides that use the existing generation and review checks. - Add the reviewed Airtable DCR option and compatible Calendly registration names. - Initialize Tavily sessions before discovery and calls, including retained connections. Keep credential-scoped session caching and single call dispatch. - Use the server's callback URL in the OAuth setup UI. - Omit untouched optional object defaults; keep supplied empty strings, false, zero, and object values intact in the action tester, with strict required-child validation. - Require an explicit retry after OAuth refresh instead of replaying a tools/call with missing session headers. - Record all eleven successful reads, write policies, auth-method limits, and qualification caveats. Omit credentials and private account data. - Find chat connector cards through catalog search in browser tests, so pagination does not hide Slack or other later entries. ## Verification - Real browser qualification: eleven bounded reads passed. Catalog refresh and reload proof are recorded in `doc/connections/verified-mcp-qualification-2026-10-08.md`. - Provider writes and actual agent-adapter sessions were not run. Alternative documented auth methods and expiry refresh remain unqualified. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - Focused shared/catalog tests: 41 passed. Source override tests: 3 passed. Catalog regeneration fixture suite: 9 passed. Latest form regression suites: 31 passed. Gateway suite: 38 passed. Other focused UI suites passed before these last fixes. - UI token gates and both token sync checks: passed. - The catalog regeneration fixture includes the authoritative provider overrides; its full suite passes. The focused OAuth socket case passed on isolated rerun. - Complete local UI suite: 7,866 passed. CLI suite: 511 passed, 6 skipped. Complete shared suite: 892 passed. - The unchanged AgentMail/ClickUp discovery fallback suite passes all 45 cases. An OpenAI login test passed on isolated rerun. - Local broad database coverage is limited by macOS PostgreSQL shared-memory exhaustion (`shmget: No space left on device`, not disk space). The broad run was interrupted after diagnosis; no host settings or other running services were changed. - CI found that the Slack browser test assumed its catalog card was on the first page. The test now uses catalog search; the Slack case passes locally. Adjacent GitHub and iMessage cases could not start locally because embedded PostgreSQL initialization failed before browser assertions. - Final commit [`febe4520e`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/febe4520e13d4b3a4121eafc3d22540c2b11379d): all 54 checks passed, with none pending or failed. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37847182065) passed typecheck, build, all general and serialized test suites, all eight browser shards, runner checks, canary dry run, and the aggregate verification gate. - Greptile reviewed that exact final commit at 2026-10-08 21:33 UTC and returned 5/5 with no outstanding findings or unresolved threads. - PR UI preview against the existing local test server: Calendly catalog/setup observed; Firecrawl read passed after expanding More options with nested optional inputs untouched. This retest proves frontend behavior, not the revised OAuth backend against a live provider. <details> <summary>Browser evidence</summary> </details> ## Risks - Provider registration and consent behavior can change. Airtable's DCR option is explicit and keeps the existing issuer, resource, redirect, and PKCE checks. - Tavily uses initialized sessions without automatic call retries. After a successful OAuth refresh following 401, callers now receive a retry-required result. A later explicit retry can still require reauthorization if the provider rejects the refreshed token. Provider writes are not live-qualified. - Optional object cleanup affects the shared action tester. Regression tests cover absent objects, required children, defaults, and populated values. - GSC Wizard's underlying Google data scopes and Google flow completion were not independently verified. Its account reported paid/trial metadata of unknown origin. No purchase was performed. - No database migration, new AgentMail integration, or change to existing action grants is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with implementation, research, tool use, and code execution. The root backend model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The cheaper subagents used OpenAI `gpt-6-luna`. No model context size is inferred. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — targeted checks and complete UI/CLI/shared suites passed; the broad local database run was blocked by the macOS PostgreSQL startup limitation documented above. fix(tool-gateway): keep MCP connection healthy on oversized/malformed responses (#15462)
<!-- Write all pull request text in Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, one instruction per sentence, simple approved vocabulary, and the active voice. --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents call remote MCP tools through the Paperclip tool gateway > - The gateway keeps a health status for each remote MCP connection, and it hides the tools of a connection that has `healthStatus = "error"` > - One oversized, malformed, or invalid-JSON `tools/call` reply set the whole connection to `error` > - Health goes back to `ok` only after a successful call, but the hidden tools prevent that call, so the connection stayed locked until a person reconnected it > - This pull request makes these reply errors fail only the one call, and it starts a new MCP session for the caller on the next call > - The benefit is that one large or bad reply no longer disconnects a working connection for every agent ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. Related open PRs fix other health downgrades in the same function. They do not overlap with this change: - Refs #11910 (timeouts and JSON-RPC errors) - Refs #15325 (transport errors) **What happened?** An agent called a remote MCP tool that returned more than `MAX_REMOTE_MCP_RESPONSE_BYTES` (1 MB). The gateway returned 502 `mcp_remote_response_too_large`. It also set the connection to `healthStatus = "error"`. Then `connectedMcpConnectionFilter` hid all tools of the connection (except `per_user` connections), and `connections_search` showed the connection as `needs_user_action`. The `malformed_response` and `invalid_json` errors from `readMcpHttpResponse` did the same thing. `readMcpHttpResponse` can also cancel the reply stream before the end. The remote server can then close its MCP session. The gateway kept the cached `mcp-session-id` for up to 30 minutes and cleared it only after a 404. The next calls then failed with "Remote MCP session expired". **Expected behavior** A reply that is too large or not correct fails only that call. The connection stays healthy, and its tools stay visible. The next call uses a new MCP session. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Add a remote MCP connection with `mcpSessionRequired: true`. 2. Call a tool that returns a reply larger than 1 MB. 3. Look at the connection: `healthStatus` is `error`. 4. Start a new gateway session: the tools of the connection are not in the list. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `99a9de9940bf5974352d9dbfbb2f21e62e89689f` **Deployment mode** All modes. The fault is in the server tool gateway. ## What Changed - `server/src/services/tool-gateway.ts`: `too_large`, `malformed_response`, and `invalid_json` from `readMcpHttpResponse` now fail only the call. The caller gets the same 502 reason code as before. The gateway does not call `markRemoteConnectionHealth(…, "error")` for these errors. The `invalid_json` branch after `JSON.parse(body)` also does not change health now, so all `invalid_json` paths are the same. - The `mcp_remote_response_too_large` message now tells the caller to request a smaller result, for example a narrower query or a smaller page size. The error details now include `maxBytes`. - `server/src/services/mcp-http.ts`: new `forgetMcpHttpSession()`. It removes only the cached session for one scope and one credential set, and only while that entry still holds the session ID that failed. It does not touch other agents, sessions that are initializing, or a newer session that replaced the failed one. - The gateway calls `forgetMcpHttpSession()` after these reply errors, so the next call from that caller initializes a new session. The existing 404 "session expired" path now uses the same function. Before, both paths cleared all sessions and all pending initializations on the connection. That made a concurrent initialization by another agent fail with "MCP connection changed while initializing", which the gateway reported as a fetch failure and marked as a connection `error`. - `forgetMcpHttpSessions(connectionId)` is not changed. Disconnect and revocation still clear the full connection. Why `malformed_response` and `invalid_json` are also per-call errors: - Each error is about one reply body. The server was reachable, accepted the credentials, and sent HTTP 2xx. A reply can be too large or bad because of the tool and its arguments. That is not a fault of the connection. - The other malformed-reply checks in the same function (payload is not an object, or has no `result`) already throw `remote_mcp_malformed_response` and do not change health. Only the reader-level errors changed health. - Health recovers only after a successful call. An `error` status for one bad reply therefore locks the connection until a person reconnects it. - Other failures (HTTP errors, fetch failures, timeouts, JSON-RPC errors) still change health. This PR does not change them. #11910 and #15325 address some of them. ## Verification - `server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts`: the recovery test now runs for three replies: oversized, invalid JSON, and a reply without the requested message ID. Each run uses a fake HTTP MCP server with `mcpSessionRequired: true` that gives `session-N` for each `initialize`. Each run checks that: - the call fails with the correct 502 reason code (and, for the oversized reply, the smaller-page hint and `maxBytes: 1000000`) - `healthStatus` stays `ok` - a new gateway session still lists the tool and can call it - the second `tools/call` uses `session-2`, not `session-1` - New test: agent A gets an oversized reply while agent B initializes a session on the same connection. Agent B's call completes, health stays `ok`, and the two calls use `session-1` and `session-2`. With the old connection-wide reset, this test fails: agent B gets 502 `mcp_remote_fetch_failed`. - `server/src/__tests__/remote-mcp-protocol.test.ts`: new unit test. `forgetMcpHttpSession()` keeps the session of a different identity, and a late failure from an old session does not remove the newer session. - Each regression check fails without its fix. Without the health change, the test fails on `healthStatus: 'error'`. Without the session reset, it fails with `['session-1', 'session-1']`. ``` cd server npx vitest run src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts src/__tests__/tool-gateway-service.test.ts src/__tests__/remote-mcp-protocol.test.ts Test Files 3 passed (3) Tests 132 passed (132) ``` - I did not run the full server `tsc --noEmit` locally because the sandbox does not have sufficient memory. The CI typecheck covers it. ## Risks - Low risk. The change affects only the error path of remote MCP `tools/call`. - A remote server that always sends bad replies now keeps `healthStatus = "ok"`. Each call still fails with a clear 502 reason code and an audit record, so the failure stays visible. Only the connection-wide hiding of tools stops. - After one of these errors, the next call from the same caller sends one more `initialize` request. This adds one round trip. - A 404 "session expired" now clears only the session of the caller that got the 404. Before, it cleared the cached sessions of all agents on the connection. If the remote server restarts, each agent now gets its own "session expired" error one time and then initializes again. A 404 is about one session, and the old connection-wide clear also cancelled other agents' initializations. - #11910 and #15325 change the same catch block. fix: repair MCP validation and cancelled execution recovery (#14951)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The tool gateway gives agents access to connected services. Recovery controls what happens when a run stops. > - Generated tool names can exceed the provider limit after the MCP client adds its prefix. > - The same invalid definition can fail each automatic retry. A cancelled run can also hold saved messages without showing its cause. > - This pull request bounds tool names, stops configuration retries, and retains cancellation evidence. > - It shows the stopped run and admits saved input only after the existing safety checks pass. > - The benefit is a clear recovery path that preserves operator Stop and prevents duplicate message delivery. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A long connected MCP tool name makes the provider reject the entire request. Automatic recovery repeats the invalid request. Separately, unexpected legacy cancellations can leave saved input behind a recovery hold. The notice does not identify the stopped run or its cause. **Expected behavior** Complete MCP names fit the provider limit. Tool-definition errors require configuration repair. Cancelled runs retain their source and reason. The recovery notice shows the cause and saved-message count. Verified unexpected cancellations can start a fresh turn through the existing admission checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Assign an App gallery connection with a long application key and tool name to a Claude agent. 2. Start a run. The provider rejects a name over 128 characters, including its MCP prefix. 3. For cancellation recovery, stop a legacy provider turn without an operator Stop request and send a user message while the recovery hold is active. 4. Inspect the recovery notice and the deferred message queue. **Paperclip version or commit** Rebased onto master at `cf8ad63c806685bfd7c48e3ed4a919d61a7c55f1`. **Deployment mode** Hosted or self-hosted server with legacy Claude or Codex execution. Related public work: - Refs #14017. That PR caps name segments. This PR preserves existing short names and uses stable hash aliases for long complete names. It also covers classification and recovery. - Refs #4510. That PR adds a cancellation-source column. This PR records bounded evidence in the existing run result, without a migration. - Refs #12552 and #4506. Those PRs suppress recovery after operator cancellation. This PR preserves operator intent and uses the existing continuation gates. ## What Changed - Bound gateway names with the full provider prefix in the 128-character budget. Retain the original upstream tool name for dispatch and permissions. - Classify invalid tool definitions as configuration failures before diagnostic redaction. Stop automatic retries and continuation attempts for that error code. - Persist cancellation source, expectedness, initiator, reason, and time. Preserve recorded Stop intent when adapter results arrive. Report unexpected started cancellations with closed diagnostic labels. - Show the run cause, saved-message count, and Inspect run link. Offer Continue for eligible unexpected cancellations. Require verified provider stop, empty tool inventory, ownership, and the existing pause, budget, approval, and dependency gates. Use the existing queue for single delivery. - Add regression coverage and update the execution, MCP gateway, and run-log documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - Ran `pnpm test:run` and completed its workspace and serialized groups. Initial resource and timing failures passed on isolated reruns. All 149 serialized route suites passed. - Reran the changed server, adapter, and UI suites after the rebase. Coverage includes long-name upstream dispatch, configuration retry suppression, cancellation evidence retention, privacy labels, oversized run projection, and concurrent saved-message delivery. - `pnpm test:e2e tests/e2e/legacy-failure-continuation.spec.ts` passed all six browser scenarios. The recovery notice shows the run cause and inspection link, and each recovery entry point reaches one new response. - Added database-backed checks for active, removed, paused, unavailable, and disabled chat connections. The final continuation and recovery-notice suites passed 167 tests. Externally bound chats hide board Continue and show a usable next action. - All 55 GitHub checks passed on `42afbf1371dcaeb72646e3d8f65c19ff7cddf8de`. Two unrelated Storybook jobs were skipped by their normal conditions. Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5 with no findings and no open review threads. ## Risks - Long tool names change to aliases. Existing short names stay compatible. The original connection and upstream name remain the dispatch authority. - Invalid tool definitions no longer get automatic retries. An operator must repair the configuration before a new attempt. - Continuation changes apply only to positively identified unexpected legacy cancellations with complete empty tool inventory. Operator Stop, unknown historical cancellations, outstanding tools, and unverified provider termination keep their holds. - No database migration. The added projection fields are optional. Cancellation reason and initiator IDs remain local run evidence; Sentry receives only closed source and initiator-type labels and expectedness. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution, and GitHub tool use. The runtime does not expose the exact model variant or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(heartbeat): validate native MCP gateway ownership (#14914)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage agents and govern their tool access. > - Native runs receive an immutable MCP tool assignment for one agent. > - The gateway must enforce that owner when it authenticates a run token. > - Older gateway rows stored the owner only in metadata. > - This change validates the gateway and profile, binds new rows, and repairs valid older rows on reuse. > - It also delivers each native assignment once. > - Other agents cannot use the assignment, and explicit shared gateways keep their configured scope. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on #14012 by @busla (Jón Levy). That PR adds agent binding and seven regressions. This PR carries that fix onto current master and adds legacy authentication, profile validation, and duplicate-delivery coverage. Related: #14864 improves discovery memory use. **What happened?** Native gateway creation stored an owner in metadata but left `agentId` null. Authentication could therefore accept another agent's run token. Managed discovery could also deliver historical native assignments again. **Expected behavior** A native assignment accepts only its owner's run token. The gateway and profile must refer to the same immutable assignment. The current assignment enters the run configuration once. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run the database fixtures in `heartbeat-runtime-mcp-servers.test.ts` on the baseline. 2. Create a native assignment and inspect its stored gateway owner. 3. Authenticate with another agent's run token, then inspect legacy reuse and managed delivery. 4. The baseline fails six ownership and delivery cases. The fix passes all twelve cases. **Paperclip version or commit** The red baseline is `f2e0f1963`. This PR is based on `cad26c6bf`, which includes the merged discovery fix. **Deployment mode** Native Paperclip Runner execution and managed Codex MCP delivery. Reproduction uses isolated database and HTTP fixtures. ## What Changed - Store the agent owner and agent context on new native gateways. - Validate profile and gateway assignment metadata before reuse or token creation. - Bind valid legacy rows with a company-scoped, null-owner update and validate the result. - Reject mismatched run tokens before legacy repair. - Identify native assignments by gateway metadata, the reserved profile key, or profile source. Reject missing or malformed provenance, including JSON null. - Exclude historical native assignments from managed gateway delivery. Keep their rows for existing runs. - Add twelve database and HTTP regressions and document the runtime contract. ## Verification - Red baseline: six regressions fail and four controls pass before the initial fix. Two additional regressions reproduce metadata-loss admission and a JSON-null TypeError before the review fix. - All twelve ownership regressions pass on the final code, including owner admission, cross-agent rejection, metadata loss, JSON-null HTTP 401, and explicit shared-gateway admission. Policy, listing-memory, and discovery HTTP coverage also passes. - Full workspace typecheck and build pass locally. Server typecheck and compilation pass again after the review fix. The final ownership and grant patches pass 42 combined database and HTTP regressions. - [Full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37011383657) passes for `626a08ae66361cf586105877e24d806b1a7a9c20`: all 54 checks succeed; two optional Storybook checks skip. This includes full typecheck, build, all test shards, all eight E2E shards, runner verification, and the canary dry run. - Greptile scores that exact head 5/5. No review threads remain unresolved. ## Risks Invalid historical native gateway or profile metadata now rejects authentication. Valid unbound rows are repaired only when their owner reuses the assignment. Conflicting owners are never overwritten. Historical rows are retained for existing runs. Explicit shared gateways use ordinary profiles and keep their configured scopes. The reserved native profile namespace remains agent-owned even when gateway metadata is cleared. No schema or dependency changes are included. ## Model Used Original fix and seven regressions in #14012: Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5, `claude-opus-5-5`, 1M context, as reported by @busla. Extensions and verification: OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and tests. This session does not expose the exact serving model identifier or context window. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(tool-gateway): bound MCP discovery memory and concurrency (#14864)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents discover governed tools through the MCP gateway. > - A listing repeated policy and full run-row reads for each catalog tool. > - Parallel listings multiplied those allocations during run startup. > - One 900-tool baseline listing used 11,489 queries and about 1.7 GiB of extra heap in a fixture. > - This pull request shares reads within a listing and bounds whole listings across the process. > - The benefit is lower discovery memory use while execution still checks current policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13115. Its on-demand target change affects the same listing loop. **What happened?** MCP discovery repeated roughly 13 reads per tool. Full run snapshots and repeated connection configurations caused large allocations. Per-listing bounds alone did not limit concurrent listings across gateways. **Expected behavior** Discovery reads shared inputs once per listing. The process bounds active and queued listings. Catalog payload size and policy evaluation still grow with the catalog. Tool execution checks current access rules. **Steps to reproduce** Create a company with a remote MCP connection, 900 catalog tools, large schemas, and a large run snapshot. Send concurrent tools/list requests using a run-bound gateway token. Run the committed benchmark for a deterministic reproduction. **Paperclip version or commit** Baseline: |

fix(connections): repair personal credentials and request write access (#14739)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use Apps through a gateway that checks identity, company access, and action policies. > - Personal pasted credentials can point to company secrets. Setup can show success while the gateway rejects every call. > - Several OAuth methods also omit the scopes needed for their supported write actions. > - This pull request gives setup, health checks, and invocation the same credential rules. Owners repair existing connections by reconnecting. > - New connections request reviewed permissions for their supported actions. Read-only choices remain available under Advanced. > - Agents can use the connections people give them, while existing consent, identity boundaries, and action restrictions remain enforced. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14009 and #14008. This addresses the personal-credential defect. The separate GitHub organization-identity selection defect is outside this change. Related work: #13942 fixed part of new personal-key setup. #14200 independently fixes legacy personal reconnect and protects managed-agent profile credentials during removal. This PR covers that ownership invariant across key and secret-URL setup, reconnect, health, discovery, and invocation, and keeps owner reconnect as the repair path. #14059 tracks requested versus provider-asserted OAuth scopes; it remains separate work. I searched open PRs and issues for Zapier, Airtable scopes, connector writes, and personal credential failures. **What happened?** A Zapier secret URL saved through personal setup can become a company secret referenced by a user grant. Health checks bypass the gateway's ownership check, so the connection appears healthy but calls fail with `grant_credential_invalid`. Custom-header paths can also receive a duplicate `credentials.` prefix. Omitted OAuth scopes make write access depend on provider defaults. **Expected behavior** Personal invocation credentials belong to the selected user. Setup, health, and actual calls enforce the same rule. New connections request documented permissions for supported read and write actions. Existing tokens gain no permissions without provider consent. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Connect Zapier or a generic secret URL with the personal identity. 2. Allow an agent to use the connection and complete setup. 3. Invoke a tool through a run-scoped gateway. The legacy layout fails ownership validation despite successful setup. **Paperclip version or commit** The implementation started from `44736c9c7c67b7b646ead9d51721db10f5b83835` and was rebased onto master at `94e8dec56`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Regression tests use isolated PostgreSQL fixtures and controlled MCP transports. ## What Changed - Share credential writing, ownership validation, and canonical paths across initial setup, resume, reconnect, rotation, health, discovery, and gateway calls. Keep OAuth client-registration secrets separate from invocation credentials. - Existing personal connections with company-scoped credentials require owner reconnect with a fresh key or secret URL. Reconnect creates a correctly owned value and updates the existing grant and declarations. There is no automatic ownership backfill or new startup hook. - Preserve PostgreSQL timestamp precision when reconnect checks whether a grant changed. Previously, converting the timestamp to a JavaScript Date could reject reconnect with a false concurrent-change error. - Protect credentials used by other grants, connections, bindings, managed-agent profiles, routine triggers, or secret proposals from connection removal. - Review all 117 tool methods, including 84 OAuth methods. Record explicit scopes or documented provider-default exceptions with official evidence. Add Airtable's seven scopes, Hugging Face repository/job scopes, and other documented MCP permissions. - Prefer available write-capable methods. Put explicit read-only choices under Advanced. Explain pasted-key permissions and offer reconnect for missing OAuth consent. Preserve existing grants, policies, Google availability gates, and curated scope allowlists. - Reconnect generic secret URLs and custom headers using their stored credential fields. Refresh the catalog after setup, correct reconnect feedback and error guidance, and let Cancel exit invalid setup while Save & exit retains draft-saving behavior. - Apply ownership checks to the new GitHub repository/skill connection picker. Align the permission audit with the Google scope reductions merged on master. - Add run-scoped gateway, ownership, owner-reconnect, OAuth URL, insufficient-scope, UI, and catalog-wide regression coverage. Update the connector playbook and permission audit. ## Verification Latest commit `97bc0b86e0eae0ec892e4ac44beff1a66164b20e` passes all CI/status gates (55 completed check runs, no failures or pending checks) and has a completed Greptile review at **5/5 with no outstanding findings**. GitHub reports the PR as mergeable/CLEAN. - **Embedded browser:** used the actual server and built UI from this worktree, a fresh isolated database, and local HTTP MCP fixtures. Completed personal bearer-key, secret-URL, and custom-header setup; reproduced the legacy ownership failure; reconnected through the owner’s form; and completed writes afterward. Read-back was verified for bearer-key and secret-URL connections. Public organization-wide setup appeared immediately in Browse without reload. Zapier URL validation/Cancel and Google’s enrollment gate were also exercised. - **Persistence and invocation:** verified user ownership, canonical `credentials.authorization` / `remote.url` / `headers.X-Api-Key` declarations, and unchanged connection/grant identity. The old company secrets retain their ownership. Separate HTTP calls through an actual run-scoped gateway session completed a write and read-back. - **Backend coverage:** the final gateway suite passes all 82 cases, including catalog Zapier and generic inline reconnect. It checks company/user isolation, canonical declarations, same-endpoint URL validation, fresh credentials, retained restrictions, and real gateway read/write execution using fixture transport. A timestamp with PostgreSQL microseconds covers the former false reconnect conflict. - **Local checks:** 368 catalog, gateway, repository, and UI tests passed before the final extra Zapier case; 49 GitHub skill access tests also passed. All three Apps browser regressions pass, including reconnect through the actual form and catalog visibility without reload. Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, server typecheck after the final patch, and token gates passed. Full tool-access service runs hit varying 15-second Google fixture timeouts; both affected cases and the updated reconnect assertion pass in isolation (3 tests). The complete test matrix passes in CI on this head. - **Verification limits:** no live provider account was available for Zapier/Airtable/OAuth consent or account-bound write proof. Public metadata and local fixtures do not establish provider consent. The original development database clone failed on a pre-existing missing `tool_connections_transport_check` constraint; browser acceptance used a fresh isolated database created by the normal CLI onboarding flow. ## Risks - Existing broken personal connections stay unusable until their owner reconnects. Health, discovery, and invocation return an actionable ownership error; startup does not rewrite credential ownership. - Scope changes affect new authorization requests. Providers may still require resource selection, account roles, paid plans, or app verification. Existing consent and action restrictions remain unchanged. - Shared credentials are retained rather than reassigned or revoked. Provider-default exceptions and unavailable live checks are documented in `doc/connections/CONNECTOR-PERMISSION-AUDIT.md`. - No new endpoint, database table, lockfile change, or CI workflow change is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code editing, shell execution, web research, and browser tools. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Browser Use Cloud connector and live task browsers (#14627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps gateway gives agents governed access to external tools. > - Browser Use Cloud can run browser work, but a tool result alone does not let a person watch or take over. > - A task needs a durable browser session, a visible viewer, and recorded costs. > - This pull request adds a Browser Use Cloud v4 connection and interactive browser tabs on tasks. > - People can follow the work, interact with the page, and retain the browser after the agent finishes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need governed access to Browser Use Cloud. People need to see and interact with the same browser from the task. A browser must remain available after a run finishes and appear at the correct point in the task feed. **Proposed solution** Add a native REST connection for the v4 API. Bind each session to its company, task, agent, and credential grant. Open its interactive viewer in the task side panel. Record provider costs as financial events. Use `browser-use-cloud` as the app and connector key. Keep its skill with the connector and deliver it only with authorized connection tools. **Alternatives considered** A v3 MCP connection would expose tools without the v4 lifecycle integration. An external viewer link would leave the task. A fixed viewer size would prevent pages from responding to changes in the task pane. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the governed Apps gateway and Connected Apps roadmap. It uses the existing task, grant, secret, approval, and financial records. The work was requested by the maintainer. A search found no duplicate Browser Use connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Browser Use Cloud app, brand asset, API-key connection, and profile settings under the `browser-use-cloud` key. - Bundle the `browser-use-cloud` skill with the connector. Keep it out of global `skills/` discovery. Deliver it only with authorized task/run connection tools. Remove retired connector skill keys from runtime overlays and preserve unrelated browser skills. - Expose seven v4 tools through the governed gateway and deliver them to native and CLI agents. - Persist sessions, browsers, runs, event and recovery cursors, shutdown leases, and cumulative cost accounting. Recover uncertain paid starts without replaying them. - Enforce task ownership, credential grants, approvals, revoked access, and budget limits. - Add interactive task browser tabs and compact chronological feed entries. Retain the viewer across tab switches and keep visible idle browsers open. - Add debounced automatic viewport fitting, standard size presets, and a viewer ownership lease. - Add lifecycle, authorization, accounting, viewport, UI, and Storybook coverage. - Add an idempotent database migration after the current master migration. Preserve deployed migration hashes. Migrate pre-release Cloud connection and financial keys without replacing grants, credentials, or browser history. - Document provider behavior, live acceptance results, and the lack of documented passkey forwarding. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and production build pass on the updated branch. - Token gates, brand asset validation, module boundaries, and migration ordering pass. - Cloud tests verify global skill exclusion, authorized task/run delivery, unassigned agents, disabled connections, revocation, adapter isolation, and secret exclusion. The existing AgentMail connector assignment test also passes. - Migration replay runs twice against existing browser work and financial records. It preserves the records and avoids duplicate costs. - The focused provider, app catalog, OpenAPI, connection gateway, and migration regression suites pass. Recovery coverage includes lost replies, process crashes, provider rejection, and browser arrival acknowledgement. - All 54 checks pass on `2974b5f03641ad0cea3c941d8c02579316fa8c92`, including the full test matrix, browser E2E shards, build, typecheck, security, and release canary. Two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit, with zero unresolved review threads. The corrected review uses the actual master-to-head diff. - The local `pnpm test:run` started and was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It did not complete locally; the full-suite result above comes from CI. - Earlier live acceptance used an isolated company with a capped provider credential. The agent opened paperclip.ing, the embedded viewer accepted navigation, and the same browser stayed available after completion and tab switches. - The local Storybook build passes. Stories cover the panel, footer, feed entries, settings, lifecycle failures, and viewport modes with an offline viewer fixture. ## Risks - Browser Use charges for hosted work. Provider caps and local budget checks reduce exposure; reported costs can arrive after work completes. - Viewer and CDP URLs grant access to the browser. The server validates and restricts them. They are excluded from agent results and durable event data. - Runtime resizing of v4 agent browsers uses a provider option confirmed by live testing but absent from its published agent schema. Resizing during a click may invalidate coordinates. Fixed presets remain available. - Viewport ownership is process-local and resets on restart. The lifecycle and accounting records remain in the database. - The original intermittent embedded-viewer stall has not been fully diagnosed. A bounded reconnect and active-session recovery cover the observed failure paths. - Live tests did not cover every revocation, approval, rate-limit, or restart case. Deterministic integration tests cover those paths. Passkey forwarding is not claimed. - Unknown create outcomes keep the credential available for cleanup. Run-list absence cannot prove a paid POST was rejected, so recovery stays pending until it can identify provider work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. feat(connections): add experimental memory providers and remote MCP access (#13942)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Agents need durable memory across tasks and execution environments. > - Mem0, Zep, Supermemory, Cognee, and Honcho provide hosted memory tools. > - This pull request adds their setup flows behind an experimental toggle. > - It also delivers assigned MCP tools through the native remote Codex runner. > - Operators can connect a provider once and use the same governed tools locally or in Daytona. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** The Apps catalog lacks a complete set of memory providers. Remote native Codex agents also need access to assigned managed MCP tools without receiving provider credentials. **Proposed solution** Add five memory connectors behind the disabled-by-default Experimental memory connectors setting. Use the existing connection setup and permissions UI. Default their tools to Allowed. Preserve company boundaries, operator permission changes, provider scopes, and audit attribution. **Alternatives considered** Direct provider credentials in each sandbox would duplicate setup and bypass the managed gateway. The remote runner instead uses its existing protocol channel to call the gateway on the server. **Roadmap alignment** This maintainer-requested experiment supports the Memory / Knowledge and Connected Apps roadmap areas. It adds provider connections without introducing a separate memory UI. Related connector authoring documentation is tracked in #13692; no duplicate memory-provider implementation was found. ## What Changed - Add provider definitions, official branding, and the experimental setting for all five providers. - Use OAuth for Zep and Supermemory, API credentials for Mem0 and Honcho, and a bundled Cloud API bridge for Cognee with no runtime downloads or subprocesses. - Default memory tools to Allowed and classify destructive actions explicitly. - Fix personal remote credential resolution and propagate provider tool errors. - Relay assigned managed MCP tools to remote native Codex through the runner protocol. Recheck current authority for each call and rotate stale tool contracts. - Add 21 Storybook states and complete OAuth walkthrough fixtures. - Document provider research, sanitized tool inventory, and live local and Daytona proof. ## Verification - Passed workspace typecheck: `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed production build: `pnpm build`. - Full local `pnpm test:run`: 13,273 passed, with failures from process/readiness timeouts under parallel load. Reran all 16 affected suites with one worker: 456 passed, leaving two macOS `/var` versus `/private/var` path assertions. Both passed with `TMPDIR=/private/tmp`. No test failures remain unverified. Latest-head remote CI passes all 54 checks (two optional Storybook jobs skipped). Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Latest Cognee gateway regression: 71 passed, including public deployment without a runtime host and immediate recovery after a provider error. Bundled bridge tests: 25 passed. - Browser setup and real agent tasks exercised all five providers. Mem0, Cognee, Zep, and Honcho have successful store/retrieve proof. - Supermemory now has scoped read/write consent. Local storage and real Daytona write, document read, and semantic recall passed; indexing completion was verified before claiming success. - All five providers were exercised through a real Daytona sandbox and its native runner MCP relay. Provider credentials remained on the server. The final bundled Cognee bridge also passed a fresh Daytona store/recall run. All disposable sandboxes were removed and verified absent after testing. - Storybook is rebuilt and contains the experimental toggle, catalog, setup, permissions, and error states. The Zep and Supermemory access steps advance correctly. ## Risks - Provider OAuth scopes and plan limits remain independent of Paperclip tool permissions. An Allowed tool can still be rejected by the provider. - Providers can queue memory indexing; save acceptance does not prove that semantic recall is ready. - Remote tool contracts must stay synchronized with current connection authority. Regression tests cover revocation and stale contracts. - This change has no database migration. Existing connections remain usable when the experimental catalog toggle is disabled. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, repository edits, code execution, and browser automation. The exact context window size is not exposed in this session. Live acceptance agents used `gpt-5.6-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(slack): connect Paperclip conversations and scheduled messages (#13920)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Slack conversations use the same tasks and agents as the Paperclip board. > - A board reply must reach that Slack conversation and let the agent continue the work. > - An assigned agent also needs its Slack tools during normal tasks and scheduled routines. > - Both paths must keep the linked user's authority, delivery rules, and conversation history. > - This pull request adds those paths and reduces setup friction for Slack bots. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Server orchestration, Slack connector tools, shared contracts, and chat setup UI. **Problem or motivation** Replies entered in Paperclip did not provide a complete round trip to the linked Slack thread. Slack and board wakeups could select different model sessions for the same task. Agents also lacked their assigned Slack tools outside Slack-origin work, which prevented a routine from sending its responsible user a briefing. Inviting a bot could leave the new channel disabled. **Proposed solution** Mirror human board messages with author attribution and route the agent result to the same thread. Use the same session key across both entry points. Supply Slack tools to the connection's assigned agent in normal tasks and routines, using the current responsible user's verified link. Enable newly invited channels while preserving explicit disabled choices. Add a browser-agent setup prompt to the Slack wizard. **Alternatives considered** A separate Slack scheduler or task dispatcher would duplicate existing Paperclip workflows. Reusing the connection owner's identity would grant the wrong authority. Replaying old channel history could start unintended work. This change uses ordinary task wakeups, routine dispatch, and Slack's original invitation mention event instead. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the shipped Scheduled Routines and governed Apps capabilities. It does not add a separate task lifecycle. Related work: #13828 and #13809. Related test stabilization: #13877. The existing plugin Slack-control proposals are separate from this built-in connector change. ## What Changed - Queue human Paperclip messages for the original Slack thread with display-name attribution and stable delivery identities. Require the author’s current linked Slack identity and recheck access before delivering messages or agent replies. - Apply pause, dependency, cancellation, and closed-workspace guards before explicit Board sends request work and again when the durable outbox dispatches it. - Route agent results back to Slack and preserve model-session continuity, including replies that reopen completed tasks. - Resolve assigned Slack connections for normal agent tasks and routines. Recheck the responsible user's link, membership, and permissions at execution. - Add `slack_open_dm` for the responsible user's bot DM and request the `im:write` scope. - Enable newly discovered invited channels. Keep explicit OFF choices and normal admission and deduplication rules. - Add a copyable Slack setup prompt for a computer-use agent, with Storybook coverage. Share the prompt-button component with GitHub. - Update Slack tool documentation and runtime instructions. - Stabilize the mobile project browser test by waiting for the final canonical route before editing, preserving all persistence assertions. ## Verification - Live staging: invited the bot after the first mention. The channel became enabled and the bot answered that original mention. - Live staging: a normal Paperclip reply appeared in Slack with author attribution. The agent completed the calculation and replied once in the original thread and in Paperclip. - Live staging: a codeword entered in Slack was recalled from Paperclip. A following Slack calculation used the result from the Paperclip turn. Run metadata confirmed the same model session for both entry points. - Live staging: a scheduled routine used `slack_open_dm` and `slack_post_message` to deliver one DM. The existing app was reinstalled with `im:write`. The test routine was paused after verification. - Before the master merge: 397 focused feature tests passed. The continuity fix passed all 76 issue comment/update route tests and six focused route/integration cases. Typecheck, build, and token gates passed. - Review fixes: 47 focused integration cases passed, covering link revocation/replacement, private membership removal, guarded outbox dispatch, concurrent workers, lost scheduler responses, a real one-connection pool, exact reply provenance, and attachment retries. All 99 issue-comment route tests and the Slack catalog browser test passed. - Full local typecheck, production build, token gates, and module-boundary checks passed. The full local test command passed 25,915 tests before a 15-second timeout in `issue-thread-interaction-routes.test.ts`; that entire suite passed on isolated rerun (81 tests). Remaining serialized coverage is provided by the current-head CI shards. - An unchanged Cursor adapter test hit its 10-second limit in CI; all five tests in that file passed on a local rerun in 3.11 seconds, and the failed CI shard passed on its single retry. - The preview-server readiness test passed a local rerun (28 tests). The mobile-project readiness fix passed three repetitions of both browser tests (6/6). - Final commit `64ac0d9897f4353375996f1b1b38e5040bdeb0a0`: all CI gates passed, including all eight browser shards, all server/chat suites, typecheck, build, runner checks, and security checks. Greptile reviewed this exact commit at 5/5; all review threads are resolved. ## Risks - Human messages on a Slack-linked task now publish to its Slack thread. The task banner states this behavior. Incoming Slack messages and internal agent bookkeeping must not echo back. - Normal tasks and routines can now use the assigned bot. Authority remains bound to the current responsible user's link; it does not fall back to the connection owner. Revocation, private-context limits, and queued-write checks still apply. - Existing Slack apps need `im:write` and a reinstall to open DMs. Other existing capabilities remain available without that scope. - New invited channels default to enabled. Explicit disabled choices remain disabled. Channels created by bot tools still require a person to enable responses. - No database migration or new provider credentials are required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, GitHub CLI, and browser tools. The runtime does not expose a more specific model build identifier or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(slack): add governed tools for Slack-origin tasks (#13828)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat connectors let people start and continue agent tasks from other services. > - A Slack conversation needs access to its surrounding discussion and Slack collaboration tools. > - The agent must use the linked requester's access and keep private material within its permitted audience. > - This pull request adds Slack tools through the existing connector contribution and approval framework. > - People can ask an invited bot to read a discussion, create follow-up tasks, and collaborate in Slack. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Chat connectors, connector runtime, tool gateway, and connection Settings/Access. **Problem or motivation** Slack-origin tasks can receive messages but cannot inspect the rest of a channel or act through the originating bot. People must paste context or configure a separate integration. **Proposed solution** Supply typed Slack tools and a bundled skill only to the originating task and assigned agent. Resolve the linked requester on the server. Check bot and requester access before reads and writes. Use existing durable actions and approvals. Retrieved messages remain source material. **Alternatives considered** Slack's user-OAuth MCP server does not replace the customer-created chat bot. An unrestricted Web API proxy would not provide suitable permission or publication boundaries. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps work with a provider contribution. It does not add a task dispatcher or a separate Slack task lifecycle. Related: #11144 covers generic per-user MCP grant execution; this change binds Slack bot operations to chat-origin tasks. ## What Changed - Add 39 typed Slack tools, a method/scope matrix, a bundled skill, and shared native/HTTP execution. - Bind tools to company, endpoint, task, run, assigned agent, and admitted linked requester. Check membership and revocation on each call and before queued writes. - Add paginated reads, bounded history search, source links, messages, file uploads, reactions, pins, bookmarks, topics, canvases, lists, and approved channel operations. - Restrict private-source publication, including automatic replies and uploaded deliverables. Keep other people's bot DMs inaccessible. - Reuse action receipts, idempotency, approvals, and reconciliation. Suppress an identical explicit-send/final-reply duplicate. Return governed results through their verified originating conversation. - Add endpoint-bound personal search OAuth storage and lifecycle. Keep native real-time search disabled until a runtime meets Slack's transient-result requirements. Current runtimes use bounded history search. - Show capabilities, scope upgrades, and personal search authorization in Settings/Access and Storybook. Document provider and runtime limits. ## Verification - Current head `0eb21cba4`: CI checks pass and Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. One unchanged rapid-callback timing test passed on a single CI retry. - Approval presentation regressions cover board-comment precedence and exact Slack publication; the expanded database assertion passed in CI. The local PostgreSQL startup probe later became unavailable, so that final assertion was verified in CI. Slack setup and failed-run retry browser tests also passed locally. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. Server typecheck/build passed again after the approval routing fix. - Broad local suites passed in separate groups: server 12,958 tests, UI 6,555, shared 770, skills catalog 20, and other workspace packages 2,652. CLI and serialized server checks passed after environment/timeout retries. These are composite results, not one uninterrupted green full-suite invocation. - PostgreSQL authority regression covers admitted identity, cross-company/task/agent rejection, recovery, retained-session revocation, OAuth refresh/disconnect races, approval execution, exact publication lineage, retries, uncertain sends, and duplicate suppression. - Gateway/response regressions cover separate-origin approval batches and durable continuation. Focused provider, access, search, native runtime, route, and AgentMail regressions pass. - Storybook capability, missing-scope, OAuth configuration, authorization, and disconnect states were inspected in the browser. - Live staging: read a channel decision and full thread, create exactly two assigned backlog tasks, add a reaction, paginate discovery to exhaustion, and return bounded search matches with source links and coverage. - Live staging: create/edit/read a canvas and list, inspect the canvas in Slack, post/edit one message, and create a channel only after approval. New channels remain disabled for responses. - Live staging: read a response-disabled channel from the requester's DM; writes to that channel were denied. The test setting was restored. - Final live retest passed: explicit file upload and exact content read-back; approved deletion of only the disposable bot message; continuation confirmation returned to the original Slack thread without repeating the action. - Optional OAuth, private multi-user boundaries, native RTS, and CLI provider execution are not fully live-qualified. The staging agent initially supplied malformed tool arguments; valid arguments succeeded, and the tool/skill descriptions now emphasize UUID write keys. ## Risks - Existing Slack apps must add scopes and reinstall for new capabilities. Provider plans and document permissions can still restrict operations. - Instances need an independent `PAPERCLIP_TOOL_ACTION_SIGNING_SECRET` for governed tool actions. The staging instance was configured with explicit operator approval; fleet provisioning is a separate gap. - Native RTS is not exposed on current transcript-retaining runtimes. Bounded history scans are deliberately reported as incomplete. Inline file reads support text/canvas content up to 256 KiB; other types return metadata. - Private document edits fail closed when the full audience cannot be verified. Uncertain effects other than posts/uploads require inspection instead of blind retries. - Shared approval-delivery code now separates outcomes by source run to preserve origin boundaries. No database migration is required. - A separate completion-validator gap remains when the agent cites a prior run's registered artifact during finalization. It asked for registration again even though Slack delivery was confirmed. fix(apps): reduce Google Chat scopes and block unread filters (#13820)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give agents controlled access to external services. > - Google Chat uses OAuth profiles and reviewed MCP tools. > - Those profiles request membership and read-state access that the supported feature set does not need. > - Removing read-state access also requires us to block unread search filters, including on existing connections. > - This pull request reduces both OAuth methods and enforces the reduced search contract before dispatch. > - Users retain conversation lookup, message history, ordinary search, and approved message sending. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Both Google Chat profiles request membership and read-state scopes. The supported tool set does not include membership listing or read-state updates. Message search still advertises an unread filter. Related work: Refs #12619. **Expected behavior** Managed and customer-owned OAuth request only the scopes needed for supported features. Unsupported unread filters fail clearly before any provider call. Existing cached catalogs and broader grants must not bypass that policy. **Steps to reproduce** Start Google Chat OAuth from either connection method and inspect the requested scopes. Inspect the message-search tool schema, then submit a search with `searchParameters.isUnread` set to true or false. **Paperclip version or commit** The scope change is based on master at `110d176fc`. **Deployment mode** Managed Cloud and self-hosted instances with Google Chat Apps enabled. ## What Changed - Remove `chat.memberships.readonly` and `chat.users.readstate.readonly` from shared profiles and all four Chat connection methods. - Hide unsupported read-state fields and instructions in agent and board Test tool schemas. - Reject explicit unread filters, including false, null, snake-case fields, and encoded filter objects, before provider dispatch. - Recheck previously approved calls and support existing profile-bound and URL-only Chat connections. - Add scope, signed broker request, OAuth URL, allowlist, schema, and dispatch regression tests. - Document coordinated app/broker rollout, existing-grant reconnects, and the remaining deployment checks. ## Verification - All seven focused OAuth and Chat gateway test files pass: 498 tests on the rebased branch. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass, using pinned pnpm 9.15.4. - The complete sharded CI test matrix passes, including general server, Chat, workspace, serialized server, Runner, and all eight browser e2e shards. The duplicate unsharded local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI passed; it did not complete locally. - `git diff --check` passes. - `node scripts/ingest-app-definitions.mjs` succeeds and leaves the branch unchanged. Google Workspace JSON is the durable reviewed input used by the generator. - All current-head CI checks pass at `7ee755371714dc036fff1c7da844776fee3f2ec1`, including typecheck, build, and canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved threads. The generator concern was withdrawn after review of the source and regeneration evidence. - No production deployment or live Google consent test was performed. After coordinated deployment, verify reduced consent scopes, normal search/history, message sending, and rejection of unread filters. ## Risks - Coordinate deployment with the companion Cloud broker scope change. Mixed versions can reject exact-scope requests. - Existing tokens are not narrowed or revoked. Grants with old scopes need new consent. Do not revoke a shared Google client to migrate one profile. - Explicit unread filters now return an error instead of being sent to Google. Ordinary search and the approved send tool remain available. - No database, UI, lockfile, or workflow changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, a GPT-5-based coding agent, with tool use and code execution. The exact runtime model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: run GitHub review bots through Paperclip agents (#13717)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work as tasks and runs. > - GitHub chat brings repository conversations into those tasks. > - A review bot needs the assigned agent, its authority, and governed provider tools. > - The existing channel connection did not supply that review workflow or a complete setup journey. > - This pull request adds GitHub App setup, account access, event prompts, task-bound review tools, and exact-commit checks. > - Operators can inspect each review through the same task, run, and activity systems. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** GitHub chat, governed connection tools, task execution, shared/database contracts, and connector setup UI. **Problem or motivation** Operators need a GitHub review bot that runs their assigned Paperclip agent. Mentions and PR events must preserve task ownership and requester authority. Provider publication must use the bot App identity and enforce the configured permissions. **Proposed solution** Extend the existing GitHub chat connector with resumable App onboarding, linked-member and sponsored-guest access, editable event prompts, and governed review operations. Validate structured assessments on the server and compute a stable Paperclip Review check for the exact head commit. **Alternatives considered** A separate review scheduler would duplicate Paperclip execution and permissions. Reusing personal GitHub credentials would change the bot identity and credential boundary. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing Connected Apps and governed-tool infrastructure. The project owner requested and approved this design. Related PR #8645 imports external Codex review feedback; this change runs an assigned Paperclip agent and publishes its results through the existing chat connector. ## What Changed - Include the current Paperclip instance origin in the copied setup prompt. Storybook uses its configured Paperclip origin; callback parameters and URL credentials are excluded. - Add a Claude/Codex copy button in the real setup and Storybook opening step. Its detailed prompt asks four setup questions and guides embedded-browser setup, verification, and optional required checks. Clipboard failure exposes selectable instructions. - Add a tutorial that explains why App installation, review scheduling, and required checks are separate choices. - Add manifest registration, an existing-App path, separate installation and repository selection, repository refresh, and explicit account confirmation. - Add low-trust agent guidance, effective capability verification, member selection, and explicit restricted guests with a sponsor. - Add configurable PR events, prompts, repository overrides, rating thresholds, and separate formal-review permissions. - Give the assigned agent governed App tools to read PRs, comment, begin an assessment, submit findings, and optionally submit a formal review. - Bind review history, root PR events, and inline replies to ordinary tasks. Deduplicate deliveries/findings and reject stale publication. - Link check Details to the underlying task on the current trusted hostname, or to Reviews before task creation. - Add schema migration 0283, API contracts, production UI, and 49 interactive Storybook states. - Repair local lease recovery. Keep the Cloud Dockerfile identical to master; no provider-pack layer or runtime-default environment variable is added. - Retry only rolled-back wake-admission transactions after transient endpoint-lock contention. A deterministic held-lock regression proves one accepted wake. ## Verification - Current head: `7ba761fe007bb798400d3e62346fa964f607f0f8`, rebased on master `d9b3a5653e41f2ee5a1345b97c86a238f7a5c8e9`. Dockerfile has zero diff against master. Final workspace typecheck and build passed. The new PostgreSQL migration regression passed and preserves existing relation and constraint identities after replay. - Greptile reviewed this exact head at 5/5. There are zero unresolved review threads and no merge conflicts. - All current-head checks are green: 54 passed and two conditional Storybook jobs skipped. This includes complete server/workspace test suites, build, typechecks, policy checks, Runner suites, browser suites, and security status. One timing-sensitive callback-ordering test passed in isolation and its CI shard passed one retry. The duplicate local full-suite run was stopped after CI completed; it is not counted as a local full-suite pass. - Before the final Slack rebase and migration renumbering, 186 focused GitHub tests, 14 native bootstrap cases, token gates, and Storybook build passed. The final rebase retained the new Slack communication guidance. - The embedded-browser setup test copied the full detailed prompt, including the configured Paperclip instance URL. Desktop and narrow layouts were checked. Component tests cover successful copying and clipboard failure with selectable text and retry. - Live local and hosted GitHub acceptance evidence refers to application revision `cb703ac959876a07ebf3d7a295847f9f351eb6fc`. Real agent tasks exercised issue mentions, automatic PR reviews, inline findings, repeated mentions, task continuation, and failing-to-passing checks after a push. The Storybook agent generated, built, and browser-rendered pages; missing acceptance text failed, matching text passed, and broken JSX produced an incomplete result. - Live cases also covered independently disabled push events, prompt injection, duplicate signed deliveries, rapid pushes, stale-result rejection, finding deduplication, and restart recovery. Formal reviews were denied while disabled and published only after explicit enablement. Check Details links pointed to the underlying task on the trusted hostname. - Those hosted native Claude runs used the provider-pack layer now removed from this PR. They do not prove native Claude works on the standard Cloud image. A replacement hosted native Codex run is not yet verified: the disposable QA tenant has only an Anthropic AI connection. No new staging or production deployment was made for the packaging removal. - Required-check merge enforcement could not be tested because the private disposable repository's GitHub plan rejected the rules configuration. Published success/failure/incomplete check states were verified directly. ## Risks - Latest master allocated migration 0282 to Slack. The GitHub migration is regenerated as 0283 with replay-safe table/index/constraint creation; a PostgreSQL regression verifies existing relations and constraints are preserved. Existing preview tenants remain subject to the fleet migration-history compatibility preflight; no bypass is introduced. - Migration 0283 adds company-scoped configuration, registration, review, and publication records. Existing connections retain their behavior until reviews/tools are enabled. - Signed webhooks and expiring registration state remain required. Hosted installations also need the companion narrow Cloud gateway exemptions. - Agent assessments can be incomplete or wrong. The server enforces coverage/result structure, current-head publication, rating policy, and separate formal-review permission; it does not replace code-review judgment. - No Cloud image packaging changes are included. Remote native ACPX/Claude and OpenCode retain their existing operator-supplied provider-pack prerequisite. Native Codex and Codex with managed MCP tools do not require that pack. Earlier staging deployment evidence refers to its stated revision, not this packaging-removal head. Production rollout and merging remain outside this change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository, code execution, API, and embedded-browser tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed by the environment. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(connections): retire the legacy Composio broker (#13758)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their access to external tools. > - Connectors expose these tools through a governed MCP gateway. > - PR #13755 added a direct Composio MCP connection behind the experimental MCP aggregators flag. > - The old project API-key broker still created toolkit child connections and showed a separate Services tab. > - Keeping both paths leaves obsolete setup and session code in the product. > - This change removes the broker and preserves direct MCP setup, credentials, permissions, and execution. > - Saved legacy records fail closed and remain available for explicit removal. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13755. This retirement supersedes the legacy-path fixes proposed in #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906. It does not close those PRs. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Composio connector setup, management, and runtime dispatch. **Current behavior** Composio offers both direct MCP and a project API-key broker. The broker mints sessions and creates one child connection per toolkit. **Proposed behavior** Offer only direct MCP. Remove the toolkit Services UI, REST routes, API client, and session broker. Block saved legacy parent and child records from discovery, execution, health checks, reconnect, and OAuth. Preserve their records and credentials until the operator removes each connection. **Reason and benefit** The direct MCP connector becomes the single supported Composio workflow. Provider accounts remain managed in Composio. ## What Changed - Remove the API-key catalog method and its generated-source definition. - Delete Composio broker clients, session creation, account synchronization, child lifecycle, and toolkit routes. - Remove the Services tab, service rows, child provenance, and cascade-removal controls. Keep Vercel provenance intact. - Retain a shared retirement guard for stored legacy records. Show Retired status and replacement/removal guidance in the connection list and details; hide obsolete runtime controls. - Preserve the experimental MCP aggregators flag and direct MCP infrastructure. - Replace broker fixtures with retirement tests and extend direct Composio catalog/reconnect coverage. ## Verification - Focused shared, server, and UI tests passed with one worker. Server retirement tests use a name filter; no full local test suite was run, as requested. - Server and UI TypeScript checks passed. - Token gates and UI build passed. - Real browser: opened the saved Composio connection, refreshed all 11 tools, and ran the provider's read-only GitHub account-list operation through the standard Test dialog as an agent. The provider returned success using the existing OAuth credentials. - See `doc/connections/COMPOSIO-BROKER-RETIREMENT.md` for scope and live evidence. - Storybook build passed. A fresh real agent used `COMPOSIO_SEARCH_TOOLS` and `COMPOSIO_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` to return the actual Paperclip DeepWiki hierarchy: one success, zero errors. Gateway audit records confirm both calls succeeded. - Browser retirement check: a credential-free legacy fixture showed the guidance, opened the direct MCP replacement flow, and was removed through the standard confirmation. - Focused regressions for the experimental settings copy and exact OpenAPI route coverage passed. All latest-head CI checks passed (54 successful, two intentionally skipped); Greptile scored 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. The PR has no merge conflicts. ## Risks This intentionally breaks the old Composio project API-key and child-connection workflow. Existing legacy records cannot run, even if their stored status is active. Operators must create a new direct MCP connection and choose access rules; credentials and grants are not migrated. Remove each old record separately to delete its credentials. No schema migration or data deletion runs automatically. Direct MCP connections keep their existing grants and secrets. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact runtime variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add experimental MCP aggregator connectors (#13755)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tool gateway applies company access rules and approval controls to connected apps. > - MCP aggregators expose many apps through one provider endpoint. > - Each aggregator needs its own credential, catalog, grants, and lifecycle in Paperclip. > - This pull request adds independent Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor setup with a common Access → Connect layout. > - A default-off MCP aggregators flag lets operators opt in while we complete provider acceptance tests. > - Agents use the normal Paperclip permissions, Test screen, and gateway after setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Apps, connection setup, shared contracts, and the remote MCP gateway. **Problem or motivation** Aggregator endpoints need clear provider setup and correct MCP sessions. Generic setup does not explain each provider's authentication or broad execution tools. Provider approval must preserve the original execution instead of replaying a write. **Proposed solution** Add four separate connectors behind Settings → Experimental → MCP aggregators. Start with human and agent access, then connect the endpoint and read its tools. Enable tools by default. Use the existing Permissions and Test screens after setup. Keep legacy Composio API-key and child connections intact. **Alternatives considered** A shared connection for all providers would mix credentials and access rules. Separate provider-specific permission and test screens would duplicate existing controls. Vercel Connect is outside this change. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps capability and the Connected Apps roadmap area. This work was requested and reviewed by the maintainer. Related work: #11894, #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906 concern the legacy Composio broker. #13102 also covers remote MCP pagination. This change preserves the broker path and adds initialized sessions, response matching, and provider resume handling alongside pagination. ## What Changed - Add branded setup and interactive Storybooks for Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor. Use the existing access controls and normal action tests. Do not request a connection name or action choices during setup. - Add the default-off `enableMcpAggregators` flag to settings, managed feature metadata, the catalog, and setup guards. Hidden connections keep running. Legacy Composio connections remain unchanged. - Reuse the vault, grants, policy, and catalog models. Support OAuth discovery, bearer tokens, custom headers, and credential-bearing URLs. Add no database tables or migrations. - Initialize and retain Streamable HTTP sessions by connection and effective credentials. Read paginated catalogs and match streaming responses to request IDs. - Classify unfamiliar aggregator tools as writes despite upstream read-only hints; only exact reviewed read capabilities enter the read-only allowlist. Legacy Composio child behavior is preserved. - Preserve provider authorization links and execution IDs. Support Executor approve/resume, decline, and cancel without automatic replay of uncertain writes. - Preserve Off and Ask first choices during refresh and reconnect. Allow new tools and retire removed tools. Keep agent access updates atomic and preserve an empty agent selection. - Document connector UX rules, provider branding sources, and live acceptance results. - Stabilize the existing Sentry release fixture after its repeated CI failure by reusing one module mock; production Sentry behavior is unchanged. ## Verification - Final head `d11781970`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35633534900) passed, including broad typecheck, test shards, build, and E2E. All 54 checks pass; 2 optional checks are skipped. Greptile is 5/5, Security Scan passes, and all review threads are resolved. - Passed 27 focused connector Vitest checks and 18 connector-only Storybook browser checks before the flag change. All 85 stories rendered at desktop and narrow widths. - Passed 5 connector lifecycle/server checks and 7 selected flag checks after adding the flag. The latter cover settings, managed defaults, cached catalog visibility, and all four setup routes. - Review fixes passed 13 risk/handoff/lifecycle checks, dedicated session-expiration and transport regressions, 13 selected connector/gateway CI cases, and 10 selected setup/reconnect UI cases. A real Composio connection-list call also succeeded through the refreshed UI on `9ab115f71`. - UI and server TypeScript checks passed. UI build, Storybook build, token gates, and diff whitespace checks passed during implementation. - Real browser and real Paperclip agent tests passed for Arcade, Composio, and Executor. Tested action permissions, denied agent access, reconnect, disconnect, and isolation. Tested Arcade catalog additions/removal and Executor provider approve/resume, decline, and cancel. - Zapier live acceptance is incomplete. Its dedicated provider server is configured, but its credential-copy dialog returned an empty clipboard through browser automation. No live Zapier action is claimed. - The three isolated Sentry release cases pass after the CI fixture fix. - Local verification is deliberately narrow at the maintainer's request. The full local suite, recursive typecheck, and repository-wide build were not run. CI provides the broader checks. ## Risks - Shared MCP transport changes affect other remote MCP servers. Protocol fixtures cover initialized sessions, streaming response matching, pagination, and isolation. - Broad execution tools remain broad permissions. The provider governs actions inside those tools. - Provider handoff links are retained briefly in memory. After a server restart, a one-time link may require reopening the provider dashboard. Paperclip does not replay the original call. - Zapier remains unproven live. Custom-header imports and self-hosted endpoints have fixture coverage rather than a separate live account for every variant. - Turning the experimental flag off hides setup; it does not revoke existing credentials or stop existing connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. A separate Anthropic-backed Paperclip agent performed live gateway acceptance tasks. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add Railway connection and governed deployment tools (#13415)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps gives agents governed access to external resources. > - Operators need to inspect Railway services, read logs, deploy code, and run container commands. > - Railway offers hosted MCP with OAuth, but broad remote actions hide their internal operations. > - This PR adds a branded connection and fixed direct operations through the existing gateway. > - Separate SSH keys enable container commands under the same grants and policies. > - Operators can require approval for an action and inspect the resulting audit record. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Apps catalog, connection setup, gateway execution, and connection documentation. **Problem or motivation** Agents need Railway access through Paperclip. Operators need to grant and revoke that access, inspect available actions, and govern deployment and container operations without giving agents provider credentials. **Proposed solution** Reuse hosted MCP OAuth, vault storage, catalog discovery, grants, and the gateway. Probe the actual credential before enabling fixed GraphQL operations. Use a dedicated grant-owned SSH key for bounded container commands. **Alternatives considered** A catalog entry alone cannot execute the missing operations. The hosted general agent has opaque internal effects. An unrestricted CLI runtime can bypass action policy and inherit ambient credentials. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps path and the Connected Apps direction in ROADMAP.md. It does not add a plugin or parallel connection service. Related PRs #311, #939, and #7861 concern hosting Paperclip on Railway. They do not add this outbound Apps connection. The separate shared agent-picker fix is #13414 and is not included here. ## What Changed - Add the generated Railway catalog entry, official marks, provenance, and OAuth setup guidance. - Add fixed service/deployment status, bounded logs, and redeploy/restart/rollback tools. Block source deployment until the provider can atomically bind the approved repository and commit. - Verify API access with an explicit workspace before exposing direct tools. - Add grant-owned SSH key setup and a bounded runner with host verification, target checks, isolated state, and cleanup. - Block the opaque hosted railway-agent and accept-deploy actions. Preserve normal Allowed defaults and Ask-first policies for other actions. - Quarantine new or changed Railway schemas after initial discovery, including reconnect. - Add provider, lifecycle, gateway, SSH, UI, and browser fixtures. Document setup, limitations, and the release checklist. ## Verification - Security follow-up: removed the unsafe source-deployment mutation. Direct calls and old active catalog entries are denied before any upstream request, including normalized aliases. Refresh marks retired entries disabled. All 386 focused Railway, catalog and gateway tests passed, and server TypeScript checking passed. Full [GitHub CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35139421144) passed on |

feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. fix(runner): restore legacy Git access and independent networking (#13094)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip runs agents for people with different GitHub accounts.
> - Managed operations must use the intended person's eligible
connection.
> - A failed duplicate connection must not hide a healthy grant for the
same account.
> - Legacy hosts also need their existing Git configuration when managed
access is not configured.
> - Runner networking and local Git operations must not depend on GitHub
broker availability.
> - This pull request separates those policies and improves failure
diagnostics.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?** New runs always cleared host Git credentials and
installed managed launchers. Network permission depended on GitHub
environment variables. A launcher failure could stop even local `git
status`. A newer unhealthy duplicate could take precedence over a
healthy connection, and generic health errors were shown as reconnect
requirements.
**Expected behavior:** Use a healthy eligible managed connection for the
intended account. Preserve host authentication only for unconfigured
standard-trust local or SSH execution. Permit local Git during broker
failures and keep network permission independent of GitHub credentials.
**Steps to reproduce:** Configure healthy and unhealthy grants for one
GitHub account, dispatch an agent, and execute Git commands. Separately
run an unconfigured legacy host with existing GitHub CLI authentication.
Stop the broker and run local `git status`.

feat: review connection actions from tasks (#13063)
Bring governed connection reviews into task history and composer approvals. Share resolution with Connections, add scoped remembered permissions, and resume agents through durable outcome receipts. Keep cards compact, collapse raw results, isolate untrusted provider output, bound continuation payloads, and reconcile missed live events. Add Storybook coverage, browser journeys, and service regression tests. Verification: all PR CI gates passed, Greptile 5/5, security scans passed, five connection-review browser journeys passed, and real native Codex approval/continuation was verified against the local MCP fixture. feat: use the responsible person's GitHub for shared agent operations (#13005)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Several people can send instructions to the same agent and task. > - A fixed GitHub token in the provider process can keep the first person's access after another person's message is accepted. > - Task ownership cannot select credentials for each accepted instruction or preserve the identity of an operation already in progress. > - This pull request records ordered execution identity contexts and resolves credentials when managed Git, gh, or GitHub tools start. > - The benefit is automatic personal GitHub access for shared agents, with durable continuation rules and no teammate credential fallback. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: orchestration, connection grants, database, runtime adapters, native runners, and run details. **Problem or motivation** A shared agent must use the person whose instructions it has accepted. A queued message must retain its author. A retry or approval without new instructions must retain the originating identity. GitHub must remain optional for ordinary work. **Proposed solution** Persist execution identity separately from task ownership. Give new processes a run-scoped broker capability and token-free managed launchers. Capture identity at operation start. Keep an explicit dedicated-agent grant as an override. Show redacted diagnostics in run details. **Alternatives considered** Per-task ownership, fixed provider tokens, and mutable repository author configuration do not handle accepted steering or concurrent operations. A manual account-selection action would add unnecessary setup to each turn. **Roadmap alignment** This completes the existing Multiple Human Users, MCP Tool Gateway & Apps, Secrets Manager, and Self-healing Runs capabilities. The implementation follows the maintainer-approved plan. Related work: Refs #12843, Refs #12907. Existing proposals #4618 and #8945 cover per-agent or per-worktree author configuration. This change instead follows the accepted human instruction across runtime types. Refs #11831 for governed personal connection delegation; this change preserves connection audience checks and does not use standing delegation as a personal credential fallback. ## What Changed - Add durable, ordered identity contexts and active run references. Preserve message authors through consolidation, steering, retries, delegation, approvals, routines, and restart. - Add an authenticated operation-time GitHub credential broker and local/remote managed git and gh launchers. Keep personal tokens out of the long-lived provider process. - Resolve GitHub gateway and server-side Git operations through the same responsible-person or dedicated-grant selection rules. - Make absent and unavailable GitHub credentials non-blocking at generic startup. Clear host and prior-person credentials. Keep anonymous Git access where supported. - Add run-detail identity history and the dedicated-account warning. Keep task ownership and queue-versus-steer decisions unchanged. - Preserve personal OAuth declarations through connection edits. Retain exact selected grants in the gateway. - Fix continuation races found during real acceptance: verify a warm owner before credential rotation, and wait for bounded durable runner suspension before the next run starts. - Make migrations replay-safe. Retain identity through agent/run deletion, remove it with its company, and clean terminal launcher directories before releasing execution environments. Document coordinated release and rollback. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck, build, and token gates passed. The complete local suite passed in its normal test groups: 17,120 passing tests, including all 143 serialized server suites. After integrating the newly merged runner API work, full local typecheck and build passed again, along with 890 focused integration tests. All 31 checks on the integrated revision passed, including build, browser E2E, release registry, canary dry run, typecheck, security and all test suites. Greptile is 5/5 with all review threads resolved. - Current focused checks passed: 142 native executor tests, 67 runtime lifecycle tests, 9 durable identity tests, 75 credential/routine tests, 19 low-trust/resumption tests, and the executable migration replay test. - Authenticated browser acceptance with two Paperclip users and two GitHub accounts on one shared native agent passed. Real commits and pushes followed A → B accepted steering → queued A continuation in the same saved conversation. GitHub commit author and committer identities matched all three operations. Both runs succeeded and task ownership stayed unchanged. - Real GitHub MCP calls switched from A to B after accepted steering. A delegated subtask retained its originating identity across a server restart. - Disabling B's GitHub connection left ordinary work successful. Managed gh was unauthenticated and the provider had no inherited GH_TOKEN or GITHUB_TOKEN. - The browser displayed run-detail diagnostics and the exact dedicated-account warning. A final controller-restart check followed by another-person continuation retained the conversation, selected the correct GitHub login and Git author, and removed each terminal launcher directory. - Company-lifetime migration and all five previously failing CI suites passed locally (167 tests). Same-token gateway A → B → A and six broker/launcher boundary tests passed. - Remote callback, launcher, sandbox, and runtime contract tests passed. Both native and legacy Codex completed actual Daytona executions on the integrated revision ([campaign results](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34155056509)). The remote package-manager shim staging regression also passed locally. ## Risks - Deploy the migrations, server broker, launchers, and runner artifacts together. Existing processes finish with their original contract. New managed processes need the broker endpoint for GitHub operations. - Finish or stop new managed executions before rolling application code back. Keep the additive schema and identity history during rollback. - Scripts that require a persistent raw GH_TOKEN must use managed git, gh, or GitHub gateway tools. Run capabilities authorize code executing within that run to acquire its current identity; this is not hostile-code isolation within one execution principal. Managed commands prevent automatic credential carryover; arbitrary code deliberately copying a credential is outside that boundary. - Uncertain steering acknowledgement deliberately holds new credential acquisition until reconciliation. Already-started operations retain their captured identity. - GitHub private access and provider outages can still fail the specific operation that needs them. Dedicated grant failure does not fall back to personal access. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted implementation, review, shell execution, and browser acceptance. The exact model variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Tool use included TypeScript and Rust tests, database integration tests, GitHub CLI, and authenticated browser control. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add durable GitHub identities and webhooks (#12843)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents need source control access for repository work > - A shared token cannot preserve the responsible person's identity or an agent's dedicated identity > - GitHub App tokens also need durable refresh, repository access checks, and webhook delivery > - Paperclip already has managed connections, encrypted grants, run secret leases, and merge-confirmation behavior > - This pull request extends those systems with GitHub identities instead of adding a parallel credential system > - The benefit is durable GitHub access with explicit identity, repository, runtime, and webhook boundaries ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue describes this connection change. This description follows the feature request template. **Subsystem affected** Connected Apps, connection grants, secret resolution, native Git runtime setup, webhook processing, and the Apps UI. **Problem or motivation** Users need to connect GitHub once and let agents use the correct GitHub identity. A run should use a dedicated agent account when one exists. Otherwise, it should use the responsible person's account. The connection must survive token expiry, repository access changes, and temporary instance downtime. **Proposed solution** Add user-owned and agent-owned GitHub grants to the existing connection model. Resolve one identity for MCP, Git, `gh`, health checks, and webhook bindings. Store provider tokens in the existing encrypted secret system. Refresh expiring token pairs under the existing lease and compare-and-swap path. Register signed Cloud webhook bindings and process normalized pull request and installation events through a durable local inbox. **Alternatives considered** An organization-wide GitHub token would lose person and agent attribution. Environment variables alone would bypass the managed connection and grant model. A new GitHub-only credential store would duplicate the existing secret and access systems. GitHub App installation tokens and private-key custody remain outside this first version. **Roadmap alignment** This change implements the Connected Apps direction. It also extends the shipped MCP Tool Gateway, per-agent secret access, and action-attribution systems. It does not add a repository catalog. The open repository catalog work in [#11234](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/11234) is related and complementary. ## What Changed - Added agent-owned connection grants and a per-agent credential policy with company and subject constraints. - Added a managed GitHub App method while keeping the personal access token method as an advanced fallback. - Added durable access-token and refresh-token handling with proactive rotation and one automatic recovery after a provider `401`. - Added GitHub identity and installation summaries without storing repository-name lists. - Added signed Cloud webhook binding, event lease, acknowledgement, local idempotency, pull request merge processing, and installation access handling. - Added one identity resolver for MCP, native Git, `gh`, checkout, health checks, and webhook bindings. - Added a class-3 run projection for `GH_TOKEN`, `GITHUB_TOKEN`, a `github.com`-only credential helper, SSH-to-HTTPS rewrite, and GitHub noreply commit attribution. - Added personal and dedicated-agent setup choices plus identity, repository, continuity, and webhook status in the Apps UI. - Added schema migrations, tests, and connection documentation. ## Verification - The current head is fully green in GitHub CI, including build, typecheck, all serialized/general server shards, all browser shards, policy, canary dry run, review, and security checks. - Live staging proof completed with a non-expiring GitHub App user token, selected-repository installation, repository add/remove refresh, managed MCP, native `gh`, HTTPS clone/push/delete, GitHub noreply commit attribution, signed merged-PR webhook acceptance, durable Cloud-to-instance delivery, and installation-access event processing. Temporary branches and temporary repository access were removed afterward. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed before and after the rebase onto `origin/master`. - `pnpm build` passed. - The focused connector suite passed 285 tests after the rebase. - The full stable suite passed 5,790 tests and failed 22 tests across 8 general server files. The failures reproduced as shared-runner environment issues. They included `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`, closed database connections, and invalid high ephemeral ports. The focused connection tests pass in isolation. ## Risks - Migrations add agent grant subjects and a durable connection-event inbox. Migration numbering and safety checks pass. - A raw GitHub user token enters the agent process for Git and `gh`. Per-tool Ask-first controls cannot limit those shell operations. The UI warns users about this boundary. - GitHub App user tokens can be non-expiring. Paperclip performs a continuity check every 30 days, but provider revocation still requires a reconnect. - The webhook path accepts only signed and bounded payloads. It stores a minimal normalized record and no raw provider payload. - GitHub repository permissions remain authoritative. Removed access can make a cached repository count temporarily stale, but runtime access fails immediately. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`, extended reasoning, tool use, code execution, browser control, and multi-file repository editing. The context window size was not provided. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): unify permissions and action testing (#12802)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for companies that use AI agents. > - Apps give humans and agents controlled access to external services. > - The existing app detail flow split permissions, tests, setup, and activity across separate pages. > - The split made access rules harder to understand and made reconnect work hard to find. > - New write actions also defaulted to Ask first, which did not match the intended connection policy. > - This pull request combines permission control and action testing, removes the setup page, and moves connection activity into Audit. > - The benefit is one clear place to configure, test, reconnect, and review each app. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The installed app Permissions, Test, Setup, and Activity views. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change updates the React UI, shared app defaults, server permission behavior, tests, smoke scripts, and connection documentation. **Current behavior** App access and action testing use separate pages. The app detail view also links to a setup page after installation. Connection activity uses a separate tab. New write actions default to Ask first. **Proposed behavior** Permissions uses the connection access language from the initial flow. It includes searchable Read and Write sections, a three-state permission control, and a Test dialog for each action. Reconnect appears below a Needs attention header on Permissions and Review. Old Setup and Test links redirect to Permissions. Old Activity links redirect to the filtered company Audit feed. New write actions default to Allowed. **Reason and benefit** A person can understand and test app access without moving between several pages. Reconnect work stays visible where the person reviews the connection. Audit events use one consistent feed and filter model. New connections have the intended default policy. **Breaking changes** The Setup, Test, and app Activity tabs are removed. Existing deep links redirect to their replacement pages. Existing saved action permissions do not change. Only defaults for new write actions change. **Additional context** This builds on the managed app connection work in #12728. A search found no duplicate open pull request or issue. ## What Changed - Combined action testing with Permissions. - Added searchable Read and Write action groups. - Added Off, Ask first, and Allowed controls with tooltips. - Added an action Test dialog with agent selection, arguments, and formatted results. - Removed the installed-app Setup and Activity tabs. - Added reconnect guidance to Permissions and Review when a connection needs attention. - Routed connection activity into the company Audit feed and preserved the Apps & tools filter in streamlined Audit. - Moved connection removal to the Connectors-page management menu. - Made new write actions default to Allowed across connection creation paths. - Updated regression tests, browser suites, smoke scripts, and connection documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/generic-mcp-connection.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts ui/src/components/AppConnectionSidebar.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppNotConnected.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Connections.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/composio-services.test.ts ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx ui/src/pages/tools/PasteConfigTab.test.tsx` (517 tests passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/app-detail/TestPanel.test.tsx ui/src/pages/audit/AuditHub.test.tsx ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx` (96 tests passed) - Targeted Playwright verification for connection removal, rename on Permissions, inline action testing, and Smoke Lab Audit evidence (5 flows passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,755 passing tests and 20 unrelated macOS harness failures. The failures use `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`, invalid ports above 65535, and workspace fixtures outside this change. ## Risks - Low migration risk. This change has no database migration. - Old app-detail URLs depend on redirect compatibility. - New connections grant write actions by default. Finalization remains configure-authorized and audited, Ask first and Off remain available per action, and existing connections keep their saved policy. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected - check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5`. The client does not expose the context-window size. The model used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add Codex-native application integration (#12591)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The runner package is useful only when the application can start, observe, and recover a native Codex run safely. > - Existing direct adapters must keep their current execution and finalization paths. > - The application boundary therefore needs additive persistence, authorization, coordination, and recovery behind an explicit experimental adapter. > - This pull request adds that Codex-only boundary without activating generalized providers, remote environments, or the later task/SDK surfaces. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Shared contracts, database persistence, adapter utilities, server native-runtime services, and the experimental Paperclip Runner adapter. **Problem or motivation** The already-landed runner package has a qualified Codex path, but the application needs durable native-run state, guarded runtime selection, authenticated coordination, tool security, finalization, and recovery before the experimental adapter can be exercised safely. **Proposed solution** Add a Codex-only `paperclip_runner` application path behind the existing default-off native-runner setting. Bind native state and coordination to company/run identity, preserve persisted-run recovery, and leave every direct adapter on its existing legacy execution path. **Alternatives considered** The earlier stack boundary introduced a generalized executor and remote-environment lifecycle here. That made this PR depend on implementations in higher PRs and changed reusable sandbox behavior globally. Those pieces are now deferred together to #12592. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md does not list a conflicting native-runner integration project. This change adds the application boundary for the existing Runner architecture. ## What Changed - Added native run/result/finalization/provider-trace persistence, shared validators, and idempotent migration/replay coverage. - Added guarded Codex-only runtime selection, authenticated PRP coordination, recovery, finalization, and interaction services. - Added run/company-bound tool-gateway authorization, credential redaction, SSRF protections, and replay-safe behavior. - Added the explicit `paperclip_runner` adapter behind the default-off rollout setting. - Preserved legacy answered-question wake projection and direct-adapter execution/finalization paths. - Hardened cancellation so only owned in-memory child processes are signaled; persisted recycled PIDs/process groups are never trusted. - Retained the narrow Claude ACPX isolated-context security follow-up discovered after #12590. - Deferred the generalized executor, provider ingress, remote lifecycle, SDK/lab/eval work, release-process changes, and lockfile. ## Verification - Changed-file delta against `master`: 133 files. - GitHub Actions is the authoritative verification environment for this PR. - Full CI, security, and Greptile review will run on this lowest unmerged stack PR. - Local tests/build/typecheck were not run because this checkout is resource constrained. - Static diff/reference checks pass, and `pnpm-lock.yaml` is unchanged. ## Risks - This touches central heartbeat and agent-route code, so legacy compatibility is the primary risk. - Runtime selection remains Codex-only and explicit; direct Codex, Claude, OpenCode, process, HTTP, and plugin adapters remain on their existing paths. - Fresh native starts fail closed while the rollout flag is off; persisted native records remain readable and recoverable. - Cancellation, company/run binding, tool calls, status decisions, and completion writes are guarded or replay-safe. > For core feature work, check [ROADMAP.md](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in #dev before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.6, with repository tools, code execution, and parallel agent review. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — GitHub Actions is authoritative for this resource-constrained checkout - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI and security gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open actionable findings - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before merge ## Stack - Position: 3 of 5 overall; lowest of 3 currently unmerged - Base: `master` - Previous: [#12590](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/12590), qualified Claude ACPX runtime — merged - Next: [#12592](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/12592), generalized Codex executor, task experience, and developer SDKs --------- Co-authored-by: Dev Agent <dev@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add Paperclip Cloud managed OAuth connector (#12600)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets operators give governed tools to AI agents. > - Connected Apps already support provider OAuth and personal connection grants. > - Some providers require one stable callback and do not support dynamic client registration. > - Self-hosted Paperclip instances can run at private or changeable origins. > - Paperclip Cloud can provide the stable callback while each instance keeps its durable provider credentials. > - This pull request adds the instance side of that managed OAuth protocol and keeps customer-created clients available. > - The benefit is a safe path to one-click Workspace connections for hosted and enrolled self-hosted instances. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change updates the server, Apps UI, shared app definitions, and connection documentation. **Problem or motivation** Some OAuth providers require a pre-registered callback and provider-owned client. An arbitrary self-hosted Paperclip origin cannot use that client callback directly. Paperclip ID must also stay limited to product identity instead of resource authorization. **Proposed solution** Use the existing Paperclip Cloud application as the fixed callback broker. Enroll each instance to an exact origin and separate Ed25519 and X25519 keys. Bind every request and sealed envelope to the instance, environment, user, company, provider, profile, and exact scope set. Store durable provider credentials only in the originating instance vault. **Alternatives considered** Customer-created OAuth clients remain available as the independent fallback. A generic redirect relay was rejected because it would allow caller-selected destinations and scopes. Paperclip ID was rejected as the broker because it is the identity boundary. A new service was rejected because the existing Cloud application already owns customer login and the public callback origin. **Roadmap alignment** This work extends the shipped MCP Tool Gateway and Apps milestone. It also supports the Connected Apps and Cloud deployments roadmap items. Companion Cloud implementation: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/312 The duplicate search found no related open Paperclip PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add a `paperclip_cloud_connector` client with signed requests, exact profile and scope bindings, and X25519-sealed credential handling. - Add explicit self-hosted enrollment with owner-only instance key storage and exact HTTPS origins. - Route managed Google Workspace setup through Paperclip Cloud and preserve customer-created OAuth clients. - Keep broker claims retryable until the local vault transaction commits. - Keep managed Google per-profile removal local-only to avoid client-wide provider revocation. - Add setup status to the Connections page and retain the Paperclip ID names as compatibility aliases. - Document the trust boundaries, enrollment, callback, refresh, removal, and rollout flows. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared exec vitest run src/app-definitions.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector.test.ts src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector-enrollment.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t 'brokered Gmail OAuth|brokered OAuth state'` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/apps/Connections.test.tsx` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm build` - The full stable test runner also reproduced existing macOS workspace, skill-discovery, and listener fixture failures outside the changed paths. GitHub Linux CI is the authoritative full-suite result. ## Risks - The managed flow depends on https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/312. Real provider profiles stay disabled until Cloud deploys that protocol and the provider approves the managed client. - A Cloud outage blocks new authorization and refresh. Existing access tokens continue to work until expiry. - Managed Google profile removal only deletes the local grant. This avoids invalidating the user's other profiles that share the managed Google client. - Legacy `paperclip_id_connector` records require a reconnect after their current access tokens expire. Old Paperclip ID keys and refresh tokens are not sent to Paperclip Cloud. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5.6 (Codex). feat(apps): refine Postman and Shopify setup (#12357)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools. > - Provider catalogs must match each provider's current protocol and credential contract. > - Postman method labels and API-key placement were outdated. > - Shopify now offers a UCP commerce endpoint that needs a managed agent-profile argument. > - This pull request updates both providers and documents the complete connection-authoring workflow. > - The benefit is accurate setup, safer runtime defaults, and a repeatable provider review process. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 10 of 11. It depends on stack 9 and preserves the final catalog work recovered from #11965. Related: #5904 covers Shopify skill routing. This pull request covers the Apps connection contract instead. ## What Changed - Update Postman hosted MCP methods, capability choices, default selection, and bearer-token placement. - Add Shopify UCP commerce and Storefront compatibility methods with public-store prerequisites. - Inject the reviewed Shopify UCP agent profile at runtime and remove that managed field from user input schemas. - Classify Shopify checkout completion and cancellation as destructive actions. - Expand the connection authoring runbook from provider research through verification and pull request handoff. - Add focused shared, server, and UI coverage. - Make the approved-execution waiter phase-aware so slow preparation cannot consume the provider execution timeout and grace period. - Settle legacy pre-execute-on-approve requests and invocations as failed, clear their stale idempotency key, and allow a fresh governed approval instead of leaving work stuck in `executing`. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx -t "Postman|Shopify|normalizeConnectionMethodConfig|classifyRisk"` (16 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/approved-execution-wait.test.ts` (4 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts -t "enforces policy, approvals, retries, rate limits, and company boundaries for connected remote MCP calls"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway-service.test.ts` (21 passed; includes legacy approval settlement and fresh-approval recovery) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Shopify UCP calls now include a Paperclip-managed agent profile that overrides caller input at the same path. - Postman EU credentials now use the hosted MCP server's bearer-token contract instead of the general REST API header. - The catalog generator and checked-in definitions change together to prevent regeneration drift. - Approved execution preparation has an explicit two-minute bound; provider execution retains its own 65-second timeout and persistence grace starting from durable provider start. - Legacy approvals created before execute-on-approve are intentionally terminalized and must be requested again under the current signed contract. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This provider update does not duplicate planned core work. The related open Shopify PR addresses skill routing, not Apps connections. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime exact model ID and context window were not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(connections): add managed external MCP connectors (#12346)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connection intents need secure provider implementations to complete setup. > - Some providers use managed OAuth or external credential brokers. > - Those tokens must stay out of durable Paperclip state and fail closed when refresh fails. > - This pull request adds managed connector backends and the required storage contract. > - The benefit is safer provider setup with governed credential lifecycles. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 8 of 11. It depends on stack 7 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add managed Google Workspace and external connector backends. - Add Vercel Connect support without storing provider bearer tokens. - Add replay-safe migration 0232 and its generated snapshot. - Fail closed and clear stale token bindings when organization OAuth refresh needs reauthorization. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 194 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/services/remote-url-credentials.test.ts` (5 passed, including URL userinfo vault extraction) ## Risks - Broker metadata errors can block provider setup. - OAuth refresh failure disables the shared organization connection until reauthorization. - Migration 0232 is generated, ordered after 0231, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(connections): add self-serve intent runtime (#12345)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents need a governed way to request app connections during issue work. > - The catalog now describes the available providers and setup methods. > - A request must become a durable, company-scoped intent before an operator acts on it. > - This pull request adds that intent runtime across server, agent, CLI, and shared contracts. > - The benefit is a safe bridge from agent need to operator-approved setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 7 of 11. It depends on stack 6 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add connection intent types, validation, service logic, and routes. - Add agent runtime tools and CLI support for connection requests. - Add issue-thread interaction support for connection intents. - Add runtime, route, adapter, and contract tests. - Hold the final resolved-continuation row lock through asynchronous adapter preparation until an actual process spawn, so parking or reassignment cannot cross that boundary. - Report Hermes Gateway's first remote run request through the shared dispatch hook so the resolved-intent lock is released at the true dispatch boundary. - Revalidate the addressed user's live non-viewer membership and connection-management authority for every intent mutation, including OAuth completion. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 176 tests passed. - `pnpm build` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts` (32 passed; includes non-process dispatch lock-release coverage) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/connection-intents-service.test.ts -t "addressed-user mutation"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t "binds OAuth callback completion to the initiating board session"` (1 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter test -- src/gateway/server/execute.test.ts` (23 passed; includes dispatch-hook ordering and exactly-once coverage) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter typecheck` ## Risks - A malformed intent could create an unusable operator request. - Validators and company checks reject invalid or cross-company requests. - The final continuation gate holds the issue row lock through adapter preparation until process or remote dispatch; later operator changes use the normal active-run interruption path. - The change does not add a database migration. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(apps): improve gateway and workspace connection UX (#12340)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - App connections must work in both the operator UI and agent tool gateway. > - The first stack layer adds secure remote connections. > - Operators still need clear setup, test, and recovery states. > - This pull request adds the gateway behavior and the workspace connection experience. > - The benefit is a connection flow that is easier to understand and recover. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 2 of 11. It depends on stack 1 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Improve remote tool gateway connection behavior. - Add clearer app setup, test, and recovery states. - Add focused server and UI tests for the new paths. - Keep the diff isolated from later identity and catalog work. - Stabilize DNS-pinned remote HTTP protocol fixtures and the managed-runtime public-origin fixture for this independently tested layer. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` (150 passed) - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Gateway errors now surface through new user-facing states. - A stale connection can require a new setup attempt. - The change does not add a database migration. - The injected HTTP transport and public URL are test-only fixtures; production DNS pinning and runtime behavior are unchanged. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. It replaces the first reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add guarded remote MCP setup and credential handling. - Add PostHog OAuth and API key connection methods. - Add focused server, shared contract, and UI coverage. - Keep the migration replay-safe and idempotent. - Give the late-close security regression the same 10-second CI headroom as the adjacent real-timer handshake test. - Synchronize fake-timer handshake tests at the exact ensure-session boundary so real filesystem setup cannot race the fake deadline. - Drive PTY overflow coverage only after listener registration so scheduling cannot reorder the test fixture. ## Verification - pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts (220 passed; affected cases also passed five focused stress repetitions) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never leaks a sandbox-provided value from a late close rejection into logs or the result"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never promotes a late ensureSession resolution|closes a late-resolving real handle exactly once"` (2 passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Remote endpoint validation can reject configurations that previously passed without checks. - OAuth configuration errors can block setup until the operator corrects the provider settings. - The migration uses guarded statements so repeated execution is safe. - The test-only synchronization changes do not affect runtime behavior; they remove filesystem/fake-clock and listener-registration races observed under parallel CI load. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(tool-gateway): keep unsigned ask-first requests out of the review queue without cancelling them (#11338)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The tool gateway creates approval requests and the review queue reads them > - The gateway creates a request row before it adds the signature > - A review-queue read can see the row during that short unsigned state > - The old read path cancels the unsigned row, so approval returns `409 action_not_pending` > - This pull request hides unsigned in-flight rows and keeps them pending until signing finishes > - The benefit is that approval succeeds while invalid signed requests remain cancelled ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A review-queue read cancelled a pending tool action request when the request had no signature yet. The next approval call returned `409 action_not_pending`. **Expected behavior** The review queue must hide an unsigned in-flight request and keep its state as `pending`. A request with an invalid signature must remain cancelled. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a require-approval tool action request. 2. Read the review queue while the request signature is still null. 3. Approve the request after the creator adds the signature. 4. Observe that the old code cancels the request and the approval call fails. **Paperclip version or commit** Commit `720aa0a494bbaa1711bc7a3d795f810765915bfe`. **Deployment mode** Local dev with the embedded PGlite database. **Installation method** Built from source with pnpm. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific. This is a core tool access service bug. **Database mode** Embedded PGlite. **Access context** Board and agent tool approval flow. ## What Changed - Keep a pending request with a null signature out of `listActionRequests` results. - Cancel a request when its non-null signature fails verification. - Add a permanent regression test for the unsigned request transition. - Update the contract test for unsigned and invalid-signature requests. ## Verification - Run the tool access service, tool gateway service, tool gateway, and tool access policy service tests. - Confirm 227 tests pass. - Run the `@mcp-runnable` Playwright end-to-end suite in CI. - Run the US-9 loop 30 times in CI. ## Risks The change alters review-queue filtering for unsigned requests. A null signature now means that signing remains in progress. Invalid signed requests keep the existing cancellation behavior. The change has no database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, with tool use and code execution. The model reviewed the handoff, repository rules, and pull request state. The implementation author supplied the code and tests. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(interactions): add interaction withdrawal and terminal-issue expiry (#10251)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents and boards coordinate through issue-thread interactions (request_confirmation, ask_user_questions, suggest_tasks, …) that wait as `pending` cards until someone resolves them > - Two lifecycle gaps existed: an interaction's creator could not take back a card it no longer stands behind, and interactions left `pending` on issues that reached a terminal status lingered forever as live-looking approval requests > - Stale pending cards mislead humans (they look actionable), distort attention/liveness signals, and in the worst case invite acting on a proposal whose issue is already closed or cancelled > - This pull request adds an explicit withdraw route for pending interactions and automatically expires pending interactions when their issue reaches a terminal status (including a catch-up sweep for issues closed before this change) > - The benefit is that interaction cards now faithfully reflect reality: only genuinely actionable requests stay pending, and creators can retract requests that events have overtaken ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes #5787 Refs #7403 Related prior PRs found while searching for duplicates (all overlap partially; none combine both lifecycle paths or the route-level authorization used here): #6709 and #7312 (creator-withdraw attempts), #8169 (terminal expiry), #8081 and #5137 (generalized cancel/expire endpoints), #6094 (stale confirmation auto-resolve). Related merged context: #9568 (agent cancel for ask_user_questions), #10119 (tolerating legacy `withdrawn_by_creator` result outcomes — the reader side of the outcome this PR writes). ## What Changed - New route `POST /issues/:id/interactions/:interactionId/withdraw` that resolves a `pending` interaction to status `withdrawn` with a structured result (`outcome: "withdrawn"`, optional trimmed `reason`), stamps `resolvedBy*`/`resolvedAt`, touches the issue, logs activity, and emits resolved-interaction telemetry - Withdrawal authorization: board users, the interaction's creator agent, or the issue's current assignee agent (assignees additionally pass the standard issue-mutation gate); task-watchdog runs are explicitly rejected, and authorization-boundary plus low-trust control-plane checks apply - Withdrawing an already-resolved interaction returns `409`; unknown/cross-issue/cross-company interaction ids return `404` - New service method `expirePendingInteractionsForTerminalIssue`: when an issue transitions to a terminal status, all of its `pending` interactions are resolved to `expired` with `outcome: "issue_closed"`, guarded by a `status = 'pending'` predicate so concurrent resolutions are not overwritten - The same expiry runs as a catch-up when interactions are listed on an already-terminal issue, so cards stranded by issues closed before this change also get cleaned up; expired request_confirmations are logged with a distinguishing source - Shared package: new `withdrawIssueThreadInteractionSchema` validator, `WithdrawIssueThreadInteraction` type, and `withdrawn` / `issue_closed` result-outcome support for all interaction kinds (kind-aware result shapes for `ask_user_questions` and `request_item_verdicts`) - UI helper `ui/src/lib/issue-thread-interactions.ts` recognizes the new outcomes for card rendering - Docs: bundled skill API reference updated with the withdraw endpoint - Review follow-up: terminal expiry moved from the HTTP route hooks into `issueService.update`'s status-transition block, so direct service callers (tree control, recovery, pipelines, status cards) expire pending cards too; the list-endpoint catch-up remains for issues closed before this change - Review follow-up: withdrawing or issue-close-expiring a `request_confirmation` also settles its linked `tool_action_requests` row (withdraw -> `cancelled`, issue closed -> `expired`), so a parked tool call cannot stay approvable after its card is gone - Review follow-up: interaction cards render dedicated copy for the new outcomes ("Withdrawn" with the reason, "Expired when issue closed") instead of falling through to superseded-by-comment / stale-target variants; withdrawn plan reviews badge as "Withdrawn" rather than "Changes requested" ## Screenshots Card states rendered from a local ux-lab harness with mocked data ([full gallery](https://pages.paperclip.ing/pr-10251-interaction-withdrawal-cards/)): | Light | Dark | | --- | --- | | | | ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared build` — clean tsc - `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/issue-thread-interaction-routes.test.ts` — 22 tests pass, including new coverage for: creator-agent withdraw success, non-creator/non-assignee agent 403, watchdog-run 403, double-withdraw 409, and board-user withdraw - `cd server && npx vitest run src/services/issue-thread-interactions.test.ts` — 4 tests pass, including terminal-issue expiry writing `issue_closed` results and leaving already-resolved interactions untouched - `cd ui && pnpm typecheck` — clean - `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts` — includes a new embedded-Postgres test proving a direct `issueService.update` terminal transition expires pending interactions and writes the activity-log entry - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/components/IssueThreadInteractionCard.test.tsx` — 32 tests, including new coverage for withdrawn / issue-closed confirmation and question cards - `cd server && npx tsc --noEmit` — matches the pre-existing repo error baseline exactly (no new errors) - Manual: `POST /issues/:id/interactions/:interactionId/withdraw` with `{"reason":"superseded"}` as the creator agent resolves the card to `withdrawn`; closing an issue with a pending confirmation flips it to `expired` with `outcome: "issue_closed"` ## Risks - Interactions on terminal issues now auto-expire (including retroactively via the list-time catch-up), so consumers that expected to resolve a pending interaction on a closed issue will get `409`; this is the intended semantics and matches how the attention feed already wants to treat dead cards - New result outcomes (`withdrawn`, `issue_closed`) are written to stored results; readers were already made tolerant of these outcome strings in #10119, so mixed-version reads are safe - No schema/migration changes; per-row conditional updates (`status = 'pending'`) avoid clobbering concurrent resolutions - Withdrawal is a new mutation surface, but it is strictly narrower than existing resolve paths (board, creator, or assignee only; watchdog runs blocked) ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking and agentic tool use (Claude Code harness); commit authored in a Paperclip-managed engineering session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add v3 schema core (#9958)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies and their governed access to external systems. > - Connected Apps build on the existing Apps and MCP gateway substrate so companies can configure reusable, auditable integrations. > - The current connection record does not yet have a stable public address, explicit ownership/auth method fields, or subject-specific credential grants. > - Without that schema core, later OAuth, per-user authorization, token brokering, triggers, and connector-service phases cannot enforce tenant and subject boundaries consistently. > - This pull request adds the forward-compatible Connections v3 schema core while preserving the existing connection lifecycle and directly migrating the remote MCP transport name. > - The benefit is a company-scoped, least-privilege foundation for one-click integrations without bypassing Paperclip secrets, profiles, rules, or audit controls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No matching public issue was found. **Problem** Paperclip's current app connections need a durable identity and authorization substrate before Connected Apps can safely support multiple setup methods, per-user credentials, provider tenants, and managed connector services. The existing schema only models a single connection-level credential set and uses legacy transport terminology. **Proposed solution** Add a stable company-scoped connection UID, explicit ownership/auth/transport fields, a subject-aware `connection_grants` table, and multi-key credential annotations. Backfill existing connections and workspace grants in a reversible migration, then update shared/server/UI contracts to the new `mcp_remote` transport name. **Related work** - Related foundation: #9534 - Roadmap: Connected Apps (one-click integrations) ## What Changed - Added company-scoped connection `uid`, `ownership`, `authKind`, and canonical transport fields across database, shared contracts, validators, services, and UI fixtures. - Added `connection_grants` with workspace/user subject rules, provider tenant metadata, credential secret refs, revocation state, company scoping, and uniqueness constraints. - Added migration `0182_connections_v3_schema_core` to backfill stable UIDs, rename `remote_http` to `mcp_remote`, infer auth kinds, create default workspace grants, and support rollback coverage. - Added multi-key credential annotations and updated gateway/access services without changing the existing lifecycle behavior. - Updated the connection glossary, connector playbook, and security threat model for the new identity, grant, and relay boundaries. - Added explicit test UIDs to direct database fixtures so the new non-null invariant is exercised across affected server suites. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-runtime-skills.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-oauth-legacy-backfill.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-policy-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-runtime-mcp-servers.test.ts packages/db/src/connections-v3-schema-core-migration.test.ts packages/shared/src/validators/tool-access.test.ts --config vitest.config.ts` — 9 files, 218 tests passed. - Latest-head GitHub Actions: build, typecheck, general/serialized suites, backup/worktree restore coverage, both e2e shards, canary, policy, and security scans pass. - Greptile: 5/5 with zero unresolved threads. - `pnpm check:token-gates` remains red only on five pre-existing `#9627` color literals outside this change. ## Risks - **Migration risk:** UID backfill and default-grant creation touch every existing connection. The migration uses company-scoped uniqueness, deterministic legacy UIDs with ID suffixes, and seeded up/rollback coverage. - **Authorization risk:** Grant rows carry credential references. Constraints enforce workspace-vs-user subject shape, company/connection lookup indexes, one default grant per connection, and one user grant per connection/subject. Security review is requested specifically for this design. - **Compatibility risk:** `remote_http` is renamed directly to `mcp_remote`; all repository call sites and fixtures are updated in the same change. - **Future-phase risk:** Subject-bound token issuance, triggers, and connector-service relay verification remain fail-closed requirements documented for later phases; this PR does not expose those capabilities. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex CLI coding agent. The runtime did not expose an exact underlying model ID or context-window size; capabilities used include repository inspection, code editing, shell execution, test execution, Git/GitHub CLI operations, and structured reasoning. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: stamp responsible users on activity logs (#9731)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies and their work > - The activity log is the generic audit spine for mutations across the control plane > - Activity rows identify agents and runs, but they do not persist the responsible human upstream > - Relying only on run joins loses attribution after run pruning and misses agent API-key actions outside a run > - This pull request resolves responsible-user attribution when each activity row is written and stores it directly > - The benefit is durable, queryable agent audit feeds without rewriting historical provenance ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Problem or motivation Agent activity records do not persist the responsible user, so attribution can disappear when runs are pruned and no-run API-key mutations cannot be attributed correctly. ### Proposed solution Resolve attribution for each new activity row from the run, related issue, active agent API key, or company default, in that order, and persist the result directly. ### Alternatives considered Read-time joins alone were rejected because pruned runs lose durable attribution and out-of-run agent-key actions have no run to join. Historical backfill was rejected because it would invent provenance. ### Roadmap alignment This strengthens the durable audit-trail direction described in `ROADMAP.md` without adding a new product surface. ## What Changed - Added nullable `activity_log.responsible_user_id` plus company/agent/time and company/responsible-user/time indexes. - Added an idempotent forward-only migration with no historical backfill. - Added centralized write-time resolution: heartbeat run → issue attribution → active agent API key → company default. - Propagated authenticated API-key IDs through existing request-backed `logActivity()` calls. - Added unit coverage for every fallback and an embedded-Postgres assertion for the no-run API-key stamping path. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/activity-log-responsible-user.test.ts src/__tests__/authz-company-access.test.ts` - Initial focused verification: 25 tests passed; migration safety passed. - Follow-up regression verification: 54 focused attribution/company-skill/environment/issue-tree/tool-gateway tests passed; server typecheck passed. - GitHub: full build, typecheck, server shards, serialized suites, e2e, security, and policy checks passed. ## Risks - Adding two indexes to an existing large table can hold a write lock while the transactional migration runs. The migration safety suppressions document why `CONCURRENTLY` is unavailable under the current Drizzle migration runner. - Historical rows remain nullable by design; this avoids inventing provenance and keeps the migration forward-only. - API-key attribution requires request-backed activity call sites to pass the authenticated key ID; this PR mechanically updates the existing actor-based activity calls and covers the no-run path with integration testing. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.4`; context-window size was not exposed by the runtime. Medium reasoning with repository editing, terminal execution, and test execution capabilities was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(mcp) [split 3/8]: add tool access policy core (#9558)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 3/8 and focuses on tool-access policy and authorization core > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: Authorization, OAuth binding, secret projection, content guards, and policy evaluation need a security-reviewable server boundary. - Proposed solution: Adds tool-access services/routes/tests plus the runtime service dependencies directly imported by the core, without registering the routes in the application. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/02-schema-shared`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: SecurityEngineer for authz, OAuth, secrets, and content guards; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds tool-access services/routes/tests plus the runtime service dependencies directly imported by the core, without registering the routes in the application. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - Focused server Vitest run — 4 files, 143 tests passed ## Risks - Authorization bugs could permit cross-company or over-broad tool access; the PR remains inert until PR 4 wiring and requires dedicated security review. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR.
