test: consolidate owner fixtures and retain real regression proof (#16047)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tests protect sandbox execution, run recovery, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat the same setup and prove the same result more than once. > - These copies add maintenance work and can hide weak assertions. > - Each cut needs a retained test that proves every distinct contract. > - This pull request consolidates repeated setup and removes twelve redundant executions. > - It also replaces two weak assertions with checks of real outputs. > - The benefit is 2,831 fewer test lines with clearer regression proof. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression strength of the existing Vitest owner suites. **Subsystem affected** Sandbox adapter utilities, server heartbeat recovery and environment capabilities, and the board UI. **Current behavior** Tests copy database rows, query builders, render calls and runtime inputs. Some cases repeat an existing contract. One token test omits a real bridge credential. A PostHog host comparison can compare absent controls. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers with fresh values and the same action order. Keep each distinct contract in an owner test. Check real bridge credentials and fixed PostHog method states. Carry the exact persisted first-run success assertion into the stronger cancellation keeper. **Reason and benefit** The ten test files shrink by 2,831 net lines. Twelve redundant executions retire. All other case tables, inputs, security boundaries, timeouts and cleanup rules remain. **Breaking changes** None. This round changes tests and audit evidence only. **Additional context** Refs: #15978, the merged first cleanup. Refs: #16022, the merged prior cleanup. Its squash merge is `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Related open work: #14634 repairs feedback fixture completion; #14477 supplies explicit sandbox fixture tools; #14198 changes cleanup retry behavior in another heartbeat file. This audit preserves those separate action and cleanup contracts. It does not apply their changes. This PR was first stacked on `codex/test-audit-followup`. After #16022 was squash merged, only the two Round 6 commits were replayed onto merged master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. The original stack head is preserved in a local snapshot branch. The current diff contains only ten test files and two evidence files. No merge is requested. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated setup in three sandbox adapter suites. Remove seven redundant executions and retain the real protocol, cleanup and scratch-file checks. Save 875 lines. - Consolidate heartbeat database fixtures and read queries. Retain exact wake cancellation, total run count and the actual first-run success receipt. Remove one duplicate execution. Save 1,372 lines. - Remove two repeated rejected-capability cases. Carry the absent snapshot assertion into the retained runner case. Save 22 lines. - Consolidate UI fixtures and render calls. Remove two repeated connection cases. Replace the weak PostHog comparison with fixed method and required-key checks in both real hosts. Save 562 lines. - Record audit scope, decision and expansion counts, all twelve keeper mappings and deliberate mutation results in the [audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6.md) and [controls evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6-controls.json). ## Verification Source baseline: `a090035cafb29c06f6fca2dbe43561ad866b7c1b`. All ten original test programs are byte-identical at the stacked base `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa`. - Baseline: 1,841/1,841 cases passed in the main thirty-file owner/sibling run. Another 219/219 cases passed in nine extra files. - Preservation: all four proposal packages passed independent review. Whole-program helper expansion retains ordered inputs, callbacks, awaits, queries, fresh allocations and hooks outside the declared assertion migrations and repairs. - Candidate: all 2,048 cases passed across 39 complete owner/sibling files. The main run passed 1,831 cases. The extra run passed 217 cases. Both runs had zero failures and zero skips. - PostHog control: the repaired positive case passed. The original weak case passed with authentication choices removed. The repaired case failed at its fixed OAuth aria-checked assertion under the same mutation. - Eight accepted mutations failed at their intended assertions. They cover bridge-token exclusion, fallback cleanup, READY bytes, real scratch-file preservation, exact wake cancellation, the persisted first-run success receipt, rejected capability snapshots and reachable PostHog method controls. Two original weak cases passed with the same defects. All production source bytes were restored. - Rejected control: changing run status before legacy release timed out before wake cancellation. This result is not counted as assertion proof. Its replacement changed only the persisted receipt after real drain in the existing transaction. It failed at the direct fixed succeeded-row assertion. - No new code comments or 1,000-line threshold crossings were introduced. No production, schema, lockfile or workflow changes are included. On the exact final test sources, later committed as `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build` passed. The required full `pnpm test:run` completed with **exit 1** after **52.14 minutes** on clean, immutable `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`. HEAD and tracked sources remained unchanged. The first general-server group ran 889 files: **882 passed, one failed and six skipped**. Its 18,032 cases were **17,925 passed, two failed and 105 skipped**. The only failing file was `server/src/__tests__/remove-test-home.test.ts`. On macOS, the read-only runtime bundle and symlink cleanup cases returned `ENOTEMPTY`. The permission-error case expects `EACCES` or `EPERM`. Four reported failure entries cover these two cases, including their cleanup errors. The test and helper are byte-identical to previous master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and audit master `e364b92c82`. The default wrapper stopped after that group failed. **Later local groups did not run.** The earlier public-MCP, HTTP log redaction and workspace snapshot failures did not recur. The 39 focused owner/sibling files and all 48 remote CI jobs completed independently. This result is an unresolved macOS cleanup limitation, not full local success. No test, skip, retry, timeout or cleanup rule was changed to hide it. The three adapter files received a whitespace tidy after focused execution. Full runtime AST and string/template/regex byte equality link those tested sources to the final sources. All 134 adapter helper calls were checked again. Replayed code commit `3d3defd2a60595a623045d9e2c6c586f4acb3452` has the exact final test bytes. Evidence commit `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a` adds the report and controls JSON, with one historical ancestry clarification. All ten accepted test hashes and all seven production-owner source guards match. No package, lockfile, workspace, TypeScript, Rust or Vitest dependency manifest changed since the audit snapshot. The [original stack CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38312876910) passed all 48 jobs on head `c171d6c0d603d22bb997c1f9a9bdcd5bcc5d22aa`. Those results are historical stack proof. The [fresh master-context CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223856) completed successfully with **all 48 jobs passed** on current head `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a`. Its tested merge commit was `41292af60c6eb60d477637d23822bb17b08dc07e`, combining workflow base `88bf4c6c1d222f818faa56257efe79207c892a6c` with that head. The delivery commits remain based on pinned master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Both required master checks, `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, passed. Two separate optional Storybook checks were skipped by their scope gate. [Fresh Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16047#issuecomment-6133323165) gives the current head **5/5**, with no findings, inline comments or unresolved review threads. The [current-head commitperclip review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223666) also completed successfully. This PR remains open and draft; no merge is requested. The local macOS failure above remains unresolved. ## Risks - A helper could share a value or capture the wrong binding. Independent expansion and lexical binding checks guard the actual helper calls. - A retired case could contain a distinct assertion. Each cut has an exact keeper map and carried observations. - A mutation could fail before the intended assertion. Controls reject timeouts and earlier failures. The rejected receipt mutation remains in the evidence. - The delivery ancestry changed after the parent squash merge. Exact source hashes preserve the audited tests and producer receipts. Fresh CI and review passed in the current master context; the broad local run remains evidence from its immutable audit snapshot. - The complete local default failed in two unchanged macOS cleanup cases. Later local groups were not run. This limitation remains visible even though focused checks and remote CI passed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with this work. The exact served model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. It used repository tools, code execution, AST analysis and parallel audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): qualify Bitly, Context7, Hugging Face and Resend MCP (#15686)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and govern their tools. > - Apps already supports provider-hosted MCP servers. > - Useful providers still need real setup and read proof before Browse exposure. > - Browser testing found a Bitly token-format failure and an OAuth callback that replaced an explicit empty agent selection. > - This PR qualifies four provider methods and fixes those shared OAuth paths. > - Providers that still need login or approval remain withheld from new Browse listings. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #15621, the merged hosted MCP qualification batch. Searches found no duplicate Bitly or Context7 implementation PR. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Apps setup, provider MCP discovery, token exchange, and saved agent access through an OAuth callback. **Subsystem affected** Shared Apps definitions, the server tool-access service, and the UI setup/recovery route. **Current behavior** Bitly's callback can fail with `oauth_access_token_missing` when its token response is not JSON. Curated MCP callbacks can treat an explicitly saved empty install set as access for all agents. Context7 is hidden and Hugging Face lacks a curated anonymous method. Saved drafts for hidden providers cannot finish setup through their catalog wizard. **Proposed behavior** Request JSON token responses. Record explicit remote MCP install choices in the install transaction and preserve them at callback. Keep managed subject/default access when no choice was saved. Expose the qualified Bitly and Context7 methods, add anonymous Hugging Face Hub access, and record Resend qualification. Resume hidden providers only through an exact matching company-visible saved draft. **Reason and benefit** People can connect useful hosted tools through the existing Apps flow. An explicit zero-agent selection survives authorization. Public documentation lookups need no OAuth app, account, or key. **Breaking changes** Explicitly saved empty MCP install choices now remain empty. Existing managed defaults without a saved choice retain their behavior. No schema migration or API shape change. ## What Changed - Qualify Bitly OAuth, Context7 public MCP, Hugging Face public MCP, and Resend OAuth with real browser setup, useful UI reads, and reload checks. - Negotiate JSON OAuth token responses and preserve explicitly saved MCP agent reach with a transactional config marker. - Add durable provider overrides, permission reviews, dated text-only evidence, and official branding provenance. Remove all seven evidence images and their report references. - Restore Finish setup for hidden-provider drafts with company/application/provider checks; keep fresh setup withheld. Preserve success after the exact resumed draft becomes active, and restore valid completed URLs to that exact saved Permissions page; reject initially active, disabled, or archived resume targets. Align the Context7 route assertion with its new qualified availability. - Retain hidden ClickUp, Klaviyo, and monday.com research with exact login/approval gates. monday.com requires provider callback allowlisting. ## Verification - Connector service suite: 420 passed, including default/empty/agent/company reach and managed OAuth lifecycle coverage. - Shared catalog: 36 passed. Override tests: 3 passed. Brand checks: 101 identities passed. - Focused UI setup/recovery, Browse, and OAuth-helper suites: 306 passed. Actual hidden-draft resume/reload passed; a public Context7 draft seeded in the isolated app completed through the active-state refetch and persisted with zero agents after reload. The completed URL refresh and View connection open the exact saved Permissions page. Fresh hidden setup, normal initially active resume, disabled/archived status, and provider mismatch are rejected; a draft at the completion stage stays in setup. - Recursive typecheck and build passed again after rebase. The full local Vitest run began before rebase and was cancelled as superseded while still in the general-server phase; it is not a completed pass. Exact-head CI supplies broad coverage. The focused connector service suite passed against the final code. UI typecheck, build, and token gates passed again after the draft-recovery fix. - Targeted mock MCP Playwright journey: 1 passed (34.9s). It now verifies View connection reaches the exact saved Permissions route, both discovered actions, and reload persistence. This replaces the stale Browse expectation found by CI. - All CI gates passed on final commit `32bb4c6422411eee632486950e45e2735102d1b3`. The inherited-pause test timed out in the cleanup run and passed on one retry without code changes; the entire file also passed locally, 36/36. Its exact timing cause remains unresolved. A signoff timeout on the preceding production-code commit also passed on its single retry. Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5 with no open findings. - Actual UI reads: Bitly current-user read; Resend List Domains including a fresh setup after the final callback refinement; Context7 React docs; Hugging Face public docs search. No provider writes or real agent runtimes ran. - [Text-only qualification report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/32bb4c6422411eee632486950e45e2735102d1b3/doc/connections/easy-mcp-batch-2-2026-10-09.md) include evidence limits and exact blockers. Account/profile/domain results are omitted. ## Risks - Bitly `mcp.all` and Resend `full_access` remain broad provider grants. Qualification kept writes Off and selected no agents. Read proof does not establish write behavior or refresh rotation. - The explicit-choice marker applies to new install saves; older unmarked flows keep their existing defaults. Its JSONB merge avoids overwriting concurrent config fields. - Public provider catalogs and rate limits can change. Unqualified providers remain withheld from new Browse entries; retained connections remain available for recovery. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, plus OpenAI `gpt-6-luna` subagents for provider research, browser testing, and review. The exact primary serving variant and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. Used reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add verified MCP providers and setup fixes (#15621)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give agents governed access to external tools. > - Several provider MCP servers lacked a supported catalog entry or failed during setup. > - Real browser tests identified specific registration, session, and form defects. > - This pull request adds seven catalog entries and fixes the shared paths used by eleven verified providers. > - Users can connect these providers through the existing Apps flow and control each action. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Apps catalog and remote MCP setup, discovery, and action tester. **Subsystem affected** Shared app definitions, the server tool services, and the Apps UI. **Current behavior** Seven providers lack a catalog entry. Airtable can select an advertised client-metadata flow that fails. Calendly rejects the registration name. Tavily needs an initialized session before a call. Firecrawl exposes invalid defaults for optional nested form objects. HTTPS setup can display a callback that differs from the server callback. **Proposed behavior** Add Calendly, Exa, Firecrawl, GSC Wizard, Parallel Search, Tavily, and Windsor.ai. Preserve Airtable, Linear, Make, and PostHog. Use reviewed provider options through the shared MCP and OAuth paths. Display the callback supplied by the server. Omit untouched optional object inputs. **Reason and benefit** Eleven providers passed bounded reads through the real Paperclip browser action tester. This PR includes that verified set and its required shared fixes. Unfinished providers remain outside this change. AgentMail keeps its existing integration. **Breaking changes** No database migration. Existing OAuth credentials and action policies keep their ownership and access rules. Airtable's reviewed method re-registers a retained client-metadata binding through DCR. Tavily's reviewed method initializes sessions before dispatch. The existing customer, managed, and Vercel OAuth gateway paths now refresh on upstream 401 and return `oauth_refreshed_retry_required` (409), requiring an explicit caller retry. They do not replay the rejected call automatically; the next invocation initializes a fresh credential-scoped session when required. Related catalog work: #15545. This branch preserves current master catalog entries and does not add another Google Workspace integration. Open and closed provider PRs and public MCP issues were searched. No duplicate for this verified set was found. The change extends the shipped Connected Apps roadmap item. ## What Changed - Add seven catalog entries with official provider branding and reviewed permissions. - Update Airtable, Linear, and Make metadata and show Make in Apps. - Add authoritative provider source overrides that use the existing generation and review checks. - Add the reviewed Airtable DCR option and compatible Calendly registration names. - Initialize Tavily sessions before discovery and calls, including retained connections. Keep credential-scoped session caching and single call dispatch. - Use the server's callback URL in the OAuth setup UI. - Omit untouched optional object defaults; keep supplied empty strings, false, zero, and object values intact in the action tester, with strict required-child validation. - Require an explicit retry after OAuth refresh instead of replaying a tools/call with missing session headers. - Record all eleven successful reads, write policies, auth-method limits, and qualification caveats. Omit credentials and private account data. - Find chat connector cards through catalog search in browser tests, so pagination does not hide Slack or other later entries. ## Verification - Real browser qualification: eleven bounded reads passed. Catalog refresh and reload proof are recorded in `doc/connections/verified-mcp-qualification-2026-10-08.md`. - Provider writes and actual agent-adapter sessions were not run. Alternative documented auth methods and expiry refresh remain unqualified. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - Focused shared/catalog tests: 41 passed. Source override tests: 3 passed. Catalog regeneration fixture suite: 9 passed. Latest form regression suites: 31 passed. Gateway suite: 38 passed. Other focused UI suites passed before these last fixes. - UI token gates and both token sync checks: passed. - The catalog regeneration fixture includes the authoritative provider overrides; its full suite passes. The focused OAuth socket case passed on isolated rerun. - Complete local UI suite: 7,866 passed. CLI suite: 511 passed, 6 skipped. Complete shared suite: 892 passed. - The unchanged AgentMail/ClickUp discovery fallback suite passes all 45 cases. An OpenAI login test passed on isolated rerun. - Local broad database coverage is limited by macOS PostgreSQL shared-memory exhaustion (`shmget: No space left on device`, not disk space). The broad run was interrupted after diagnosis; no host settings or other running services were changed. - CI found that the Slack browser test assumed its catalog card was on the first page. The test now uses catalog search; the Slack case passes locally. Adjacent GitHub and iMessage cases could not start locally because embedded PostgreSQL initialization failed before browser assertions. - Final commit [`febe4520e`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/febe4520e13d4b3a4121eafc3d22540c2b11379d): all 54 checks passed, with none pending or failed. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37847182065) passed typecheck, build, all general and serialized test suites, all eight browser shards, runner checks, canary dry run, and the aggregate verification gate. - Greptile reviewed that exact final commit at 2026-10-08 21:33 UTC and returned 5/5 with no outstanding findings or unresolved threads. - PR UI preview against the existing local test server: Calendly catalog/setup observed; Firecrawl read passed after expanding More options with nested optional inputs untouched. This retest proves frontend behavior, not the revised OAuth backend against a live provider. <details> <summary>Browser evidence</summary> </details> ## Risks - Provider registration and consent behavior can change. Airtable's DCR option is explicit and keeps the existing issuer, resource, redirect, and PKCE checks. - Tavily uses initialized sessions without automatic call retries. After a successful OAuth refresh following 401, callers now receive a retry-required result. A later explicit retry can still require reauthorization if the provider rejects the refreshed token. Provider writes are not live-qualified. - Optional object cleanup affects the shared action tester. Regression tests cover absent objects, required children, defaults, and populated values. - GSC Wizard's underlying Google data scopes and Google flow completion were not independently verified. Its account reported paid/trial metadata of unknown origin. No purchase was performed. - No database migration, new AgentMail integration, or change to existing action grants is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with implementation, research, tool use, and code execution. The root backend model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The cheaper subagents used OpenAI `gpt-6-luna`. No model context size is inferred. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — targeted checks and complete UI/CLI/shared suites passed; the broad local database run was blocked by the macOS PostgreSQL startup limitation documented above. The full database/workspace suite passed in CI. - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add Gauge connection (#15596)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents reach external services through the Apps catalog. Each catalog entry is a reviewed `AppDefinition` that connects a provider's hosted MCP server to Paperclip's shared vault, grants, policies, gateway, and audit trail. > - Gauge (`withgauge.com`) measures how AI answer engines mention and cite a brand. Its hosted MCP server also gives SEO, analytics and ads reports, and runs a content pipeline that can publish to a connected CMS. > - Gauge is not in the catalog. Operators must use the generic "Connect your own MCP server" flow. That flow has no branding, no organization guidance, and no warning about live CMS publishing. > - The connector playbook supports this provider with existing definition fields. The server supports dynamic client registration with a reviewed `mcp` scope, and it accepts an organization API key as a bearer header. > - This pull request adds the Gauge definition, its artwork, the research and permission-review ledger rows, documentation, and deterministic tests. > - The benefit is a branded, governed Gauge connection with browser sign-in, an API-key option, and a clear publish warning. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Marketing and growth teams use Gauge to track their brand in AI answers and to run content workflows. They want their Paperclip agents to read visibility, keyword and traffic data, and to prepare content. Gauge is not in the Apps catalog. Operators must paste the MCP URL into the generic remote-MCP flow, which gives no branding, no method guidance, and no warning that content tools can publish live. **Proposed solution** Add a catalog-only Gauge connection built from the connector playbook. Browser sign-in uses Gauge's dynamic client registration and requests only the reviewed `mcp` scope. The user selects one Gauge organization on the consent screen. An optional method sends a customer-created organization API key as an `Authorization: Bearer` header. Both methods warn the operator to set publish actions to Ask first. Every discovered tool stays governed by the normal per-action policies. **Alternatives considered** A plugin was not needed because no custom UI, tables, workers, or webhooks are involved. The identity scopes that Gauge also advertises (`openid`, `profile`, `email`, `organizations`) are not requested, because Gauge selects the organization on its consent screen. A Gauge-specific `classifyRisk` rule was not added, because the tool names cannot be seen without an account. The generic rule already classifies `publish`, `create` and `update` tools as writes. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing self-serve remote-MCP connection catalog and does not overlap planned core work. ## What Changed - Added the `gauge` provider to `scripts/ingest-app-definitions.mjs` (category `analytics`, API-key placement, guidance, warnings, description) and regenerated `packages/shared/src/app-definitions/gauge.json` and the generated registry. - Added the Gauge row to the self-serve MCP research ledger with `dcr_or_api_key` auth and risk tier S3. - Added permission reviews for `gauge/mcp-oauth` (explicit scope `mcp`, from Gauge's live authorization-server metadata) and `gauge/mcp-api-key` (provider key), with evidence links. - Added Gauge's mark (`ui/public/brands/apps/gauge.png`, the avatar of Gauge's official GitHub organization) and the brand manifest entry. - Added gallery copy for the Gauge card. - Added `doc/connections/GAUGE.md` (endpoints, scopes, administrator setup, capabilities and policy, manifest, brand provenance, validation hook) and linked it from the connections README and the permission audit. - Tests: Gauge definition shape, store visibility and artwork, URL recognition, reviewed scope, bearer-header placement, the connect form's sign-in default and API-key gating, and the pinned catalog counts. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts packages/shared/src/app-definitions-url.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx ui/src/lib/app-brand-assets.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppLogo.brand-assets.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` — 738 passed. - `node scripts/check-app-brand-assets.mjs` and `node --test scripts/app-brand-validation.test.mjs` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck`, `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`, `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — clean. - `node scripts/ingest-app-definitions.mjs --definitions-only` produces no Gauge drift. - Manual: on a local instance, open Apps → Browse and confirm the Gauge card and icon. Open `/apps/connect?source=gauge` and confirm that sign-in is the default and that the API-key method is under Advanced. - Live metadata probe on 2026-10-08: an unauthenticated `initialize` on `https://app.withgauge.com/mcp` returns 401 with `resource_metadata`. Both `.well-known` documents return the recorded endpoints and scopes. Dynamic client registration succeeds. The authorize endpoint accepts `scope=mcp` and rejects an unknown scope with HTTP 400. ## Risks - Low risk to existing providers: the change is additive catalog data plus tests. The generated registry only gains one import. - Gauge content tools can publish to a connected CMS, including live, and a bulk keyword update replaces each prompt's keyword list. Both methods warn the operator, and the API-key helper text tells operators to set publish actions to Ask first. - Gauge API keys are not scoped and reach the whole organization. Paperclip cannot narrow an issued key. - The permission-review ledger records live proof for both methods as not run. The lifecycle checklist in `doc/connections/GAUGE.md` still needs a documented pass with a Gauge organization. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. feat(apps): add Superagent connection (#15394)
> - Superagent (`superagent.sh`) is a security platform. Its hosted MCP server lets agents read and triage security findings, start red-team reports, run Contributor Trust and dependency update jobs, and score web pages, email, files, skills, MCP repositories, and packages before an agent trusts them. > - Superagent is not in the catalog. Operators must use the generic "Connect your own MCP server" flow. That flow has no branding, no key guidance, and no warning about billable or destructive tools. > - The connector playbook supports this provider with existing definition fields. The server accepts an organization API key as a bearer header. It publishes no OAuth authorization-server metadata, so browser sign-in is not possible. > - This pull request adds the Superagent definition, its artwork, the research and permission-review ledger rows, documentation, deterministic tests, and one reviewed risk-classification rule. > - The benefit is a branded, governed Superagent connection with clear key guidance and a warning about tools that cost credits or delete data. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Teams that use Superagent for PR security, red teaming, and agent guardrails want their Paperclip agents to read findings, return structured reports, and score content before they use it. Superagent is not in the Apps catalog. Operators must paste the MCP URL and an `Authorization` header into the generic remote-MCP flow. That flow gives no branding and no provider guidance. It also does not tell the operator that the key reaches the whole organization, or that some tools consume credits or permanently delete findings. **Proposed solution** Add a catalog-only Superagent connection that follows the connector playbook. It has one method: a customer organization API key (`sk_live_...`), sent as an `Authorization: Bearer` header to `https://www.superagent.sh/mcp`. The field helper text explains that Superagent keys are not scoped. The method warning tells operators to set billable and destructive actions to Ask first before agents run unattended. All discovered tools stay governed by the normal per-action policies. **Alternatives considered** A browser sign-in method was not added. The server's protected-resource metadata names `https://superagent.sh` as its authorization server, but that origin publishes no `oauth-authorization-server` or `openid-configuration` document, so Paperclip cannot discover OAuth endpoints. A plugin was not needed because the connection needs no custom UI, tables, workers, or webhooks. Relying on the generic risk classifier was not enough. Several Superagent mutations (`triage_finding`, `scan_*`, `restore_agent_builtin_rule`) use names that it reads as reads, so a narrow reviewed Superagent rule was added instead. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing self-serve remote-MCP connection catalog. It does not overlap planned core work. ## What Changed - Added the `superagent` row to `packages/shared/src/self-serve-mcp-research.json` (API-key auth, risk tier S4). - Added the `superagent` provider to `scripts/ingest-app-definitions.mjs` (category, key placement and placeholder, console links, guidance, description). Regenerated `packages/shared/src/app-definitions/superagent.json` and the generated registry. - Added the `superagent/mcp-api-key` permission review to `doc/connections/tool-method-permission-reviews.json`, with key-permission text and evidence links. - Added Superagent's official mark (`ui/public/brands/apps/superagent.png`, the 460×460 avatar of the official `superagent-ai` GitHub organization) and the brand manifest entry. - Added gallery copy for the Superagent card. - Added a reviewed Superagent rule to `classifyRisk` in `server/src/services/tool-access.ts`. Only `list_*` and `get_*` tools, and tools that Superagent marks read-only, are reads. `delete_*` and `revoke_agent_client` are destructive. All other tools are writes, so billable and rule-changing tools can be set to Ask first. - Put the Ask-first advice in the API-key helper text, because the key form shows helper text and not method warnings. - Added `doc/connections/SUPERAGENT.md` (transport and auth, why there is no OAuth, administrator setup, capabilities and policy, manifest, brand provenance, validation hook). Linked it from the connections README and the permission audit. - Tests: definition shape, store visibility and artwork, URL recognition, the bearer header on discovery with the key kept out of connection config, read/write/destructive classification of fixture tools, the Superagent risk rule (including `triage_finding` and `restore_agent_builtin_rule`), the visible Ask-first advice and API-key gating of the connect form, and the pinned catalog counts. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts packages/shared/src/app-definitions-url.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx ui/src/lib/app-brand-assets.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppLogo.brand-assets.test.tsx`: 317 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`: 385 passed. - `node scripts/check-app-brand-assets.mjs` and `node --test scripts/app-brand-validation.test.mjs`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck`, `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`, and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`: clean. - Manual: in a local instance, open Apps → Browse and confirm the Superagent card and icon. Open `/apps/connect?source=superagent`. Confirm the single API-key method, and confirm that Connect enables only after a key is entered. - Live metadata probe on 2026-10-06: an unauthenticated `initialize` on `https://www.superagent.sh/mcp` returns 401 with `resource_metadata="https://www.superagent.sh/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource"`. That document returns 200. No authorization-server metadata exists at the named issuer. ## Risks - Low risk to existing providers. The change is additive catalog data plus tests. The generated registry only gains one import. The new risk rule runs only for Superagent connections. - A Superagent key reaches its whole organization. Some tools consume credits (`create_*_report`, `triage_finding`) or delete data permanently (`delete_finding`). Every action starts Allowed under the current product default. The key helper text tells operators to set these actions to Ask first. - The permission-review ledger records live proof as not run. No Superagent account was used. The lifecycle checklist in `doc/connections/SUPERAGENT.md` needs a documented pass before the entry is fully qualified. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. feat(connections): deliver saved instructions to authorized agent turns (#15216)
Persist optional connection instructions and deliver authorized snapshots to agent execution prompts. Keep provider templates with each app definition, preserve edits and opt-outs, and replace sessions when guidance or access changes. Use shared production settings across setup and Permissions, with source visibility in agent Instructions. Add the initial memory-provider defaults and managed Honcho workspace configuration. Include migration 0298 and regression coverage for generic providers, runtime delivery, authorization, and catalog regeneration. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): sync and group accounts managed by aggregators (#15254)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Aggregator gateways can expose accounts that users already connected upstream. > - The Apps catalog did not show those accounts or their current provider status. > - Separate cards and setup tasks also made account ownership unclear. > - This pull request discovers upstream accounts and groups them under one app card. > - Users can find connected apps while each provider keeps control of its accounts. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Connections across the database, shared contracts, server, and board UI. **Problem or motivation** Users cannot see which apps are connected through a saved aggregator gateway. Native and upstream accounts need one app card. Discovery must preserve company, user, gateway, and credential boundaries. **Proposed solution** Sync account metadata from Composio, Arcade, and supported Executor gateways. Keep upstream account management in each provider. Use source chips and search to browse the catalog. Preserve native setup and the gateway's existing access policy. **Alternatives considered** Creating a local executable connection for each upstream account would duplicate authorization state. Using an agent task for routine Composio setup would add an unnecessary step. The board now calls the saved gateway directly for that setup. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Connected Apps and MCP Tool Gateway features in ROADMAP.md. The duplicate search found no open PR for managed account discovery. Related work: Refs #13755, Refs #13941, Refs #14725, Refs #13855. Open PR #12906 covers adjacent toolkit routing work. ## What Changed - Add provider-neutral discovery, sync, and refresh APIs. Preserve the Composio API paths. - Cache observations by company, saved gateway, viewing user, and credential version. Retain stale observations after failed or incomplete scans. - Add optional Arcade account sync credentials in the vault. Discover Executor accounts through its supported inventory interface. - Group native and upstream accounts in one app card. Imported account menus open their provider. Gateway menus own refresh and sync setup. - Add Paperclip, Composio, Arcade, Installed, and All chips. Show 50 catalog entries per page. Keep connected accounts above discovery. Keep explicit provider searches scoped. - Simplify Composio app setup and refresh its connected app list on the gateway Permissions page. - Add a compact agent access card and task creation defaults for connection setup. Preserve explicit blocks and approval policies. - Add two replay-safe migrations, service and UI tests, Storybook journeys, and acceptance stories. ## Verification - Passed the repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and migration ordering check. - Passed the focused provider adapter, connection interaction, and catalog tests after rebasing onto master. - Passed all nine database sync and migration replay tests using a disposable database on the test-drive PostgreSQL cluster. Removed that database after the run. - Verified Arcade cursor pagination against its official Go SDK and passed all eight adapter tests, including short and incomplete pages. - Passed all 45 interaction tests after making the exact requested tools and their Allowed/Ask first permissions visible before granting access. Verified the compact card in Storybook. - Passed the complete UI suite on the final code: 683 files and 7,432 tests, including the corrected Composio destination assertions. Passed 130 focused tests for the UUID, management-link, and health-status corrections. - Passed 22 Composio setup/sync tests, 23 connection-intent service tests, and the connection migration test in separate disposable databases. Database startup alone was substituted; the suites exercised their real SQL and services. - Passed all 10 OpenAPI route checks and the full-stack connection-intent browser test, including scoped consent, agent continuation, and task completion. - The local full runner encountered embedded PostgreSQL startup failures on this loaded macOS host. The earlier in-flight run also held the pre-fix Arcade transform; a fresh run of the final provider suite passes. The final-head CI is queued during GitHub’s active Actions incident: https://www.githubstatus.com/. The previous run also lost several runners simultaneously; its real catalog assertion failures are fixed and the fresh complete UI suite passes. - Tested the real test-drive server in the embedded browser with a live Composio gateway. Detected Airtable and Circleback. Verified refresh progress, account rows, source chips, search scope, and 50-entry pagination. - Arcade and Executor coverage uses provider fixtures. Live credentials were unavailable. - Storybook builds successfully and includes grouped native/provider accounts, stale and unavailable discovery, optional Arcade setup, and mobile states. The acceptance document records the simulated and live coverage separately. - Greptile reviewed final commit `217b024c27b5933e773ce9419c4e92b1032042c6` at 5/5. All six review threads are resolved, security scans pass, and the PR has no merge conflicts. The outstanding remote checks are `ci / Select trusted runner` and `review`, queued by GitHub. They need to complete before merge. ## Risks - Provider response changes can break inventory discovery. Failed scans retain observations and show stale status. - Composio scans only the supported catalog and can take time. Large inventories run in the background with progress and a bounded lease. - Arcade requires a project API key and user ID when the gateway cannot supply them. This key is used only for discovery. - Executor discovery depends on the server's exposed inventory tools. Unsupported servers report unavailable discovery. - Cached account rows do not grant access or create executable connections. Gateway policies still govern tool use. Account deletion and per-app authorization remain upstream. - The migrations add tables and one nullable column. Replay preserves existing rows and company-scoped foreign keys. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The session does not expose a more specific serving model ID or context limit. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add Neon connection (#14980)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents reach external services through the Apps catalog. Each catalog entry is a reviewed `AppDefinition` that wires a provider's hosted MCP server into Paperclip's shared vault, grants, policies, gateway, and audit trail. > - Neon is a widely used serverless Postgres provider with an official hosted MCP server, but it is not in the catalog. Teams that run their databases on Neon must use the generic "connect your own MCP server" path, which has no branding, no guidance, and no project or read-only controls. > - The connector playbook requires a catalog entry for a provider like this: the hosted server supports dynamic client registration and bearer API keys, and the common definition fields can express every option Paperclip can serialize. > - This pull request adds the Neon definition, its official artwork, the research and permission-review ledger rows, documentation, and deterministic tests, without any provider-specific runtime code. > - The benefit is a one-click, governed Neon connection with optional project pinning and read-only mode, and a documented path to live qualification. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Neon is a common Postgres host for the applications agents work on, but Paperclip's Apps catalog has no Neon entry. Operators who want agents to inspect schemas, run SQL, or manage branches must paste the MCP URL into the generic remote-MCP flow, which gives no branding, no provider guidance, no project boundary, and no read-only switch. **Proposed solution** Add a catalog-only Neon connection built from the connector playbook: browser sign-in through Neon's dynamic client registration with the reviewed `read` and `write` scopes, or a customer API key sent as an Authorization bearer header. Both methods expose Neon's documented `projectId` pin and `readonly` switch as optional Advanced fields. Every discovered tool stays governed by the normal per-action policies. **Alternatives considered** A plugin was not needed because no custom UI, tables, workers, or webhooks are involved. A separate read-only method was not added because the playbook treats read-only switches as advanced fields rather than methods. Neon's repeatable `category` query filter was left out because tenant fields serialize lists as one comma-joined value, so it cannot be sent correctly without new runtime code; per-action policies cover catalog narrowing instead. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing self-serve remote-MCP connection catalog and does not overlap planned core work. ## What Changed - Added the `neon` provider to `scripts/ingest-app-definitions.mjs` (category, API-key placement, methods, tenant fields, guidance, warnings) and regenerated `packages/shared/src/app-definitions/neon.json` plus the generated registry. - Added the Neon row to the self-serve MCP research ledger with `dcr_or_api_key` auth and risk tier S4. - Added permission reviews for `neon/mcp-oauth` (explicit scopes `read`, `write`, taken from Neon's live authorization-server metadata) and `neon/mcp-api-key` (provider key), with evidence links. - Added Neon's official tile icon (`ui/public/brands/apps/neon.png`, copied byte-for-byte from the icon linked by neon.com) and the brand manifest entry. - Added prosumer gallery copy for the Neon card. - Added `doc/connections/NEON.md` (service involvement, endpoints, administrator setup, capabilities and policy, manifest, brand provenance, validation hook) and linked it from the connections README and the permission audit. - Tests: Neon definition shape, store visibility and artwork, URL recognition, reviewed scopes with scope-widening rejection, URL projection of the project pin and read-only flag, invalid project ID rejection, the connect form's API-key gating, and the pinned catalog counts. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts packages/shared/src/app-definitions-url.test.ts` — 34 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` — 367 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx ui/src/lib/app-brand-assets.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppLogo.brand-assets.test.tsx` — all passed. - `node scripts/check-app-brand-assets.mjs` and `node --test scripts/app-brand-validation.test.mjs` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck`, `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`, `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` — clean. - Manual: in a local instance, open Apps → Browse, confirm the Neon card and icon, open `/apps/connect?source=neon`, confirm both methods, the Advanced project pin and read-only toggle, and that Connect enables after an API key is entered. The operator completed a live connection against a Neon account on this build. - Live metadata probed on 2026-10-02: both `.well-known` documents at `mcp.neon.tech` return the recorded endpoints and scopes; an unauthenticated `initialize` returns 401 with `resource_metadata`. ## Risks - Low risk to existing providers: the change is additive catalog data plus tests. The generated registry only gains one import. - Neon's hosted server grants broad project and database management. The definition carries two warnings, recommends a development project, and keeps every write under the normal action policies; the read-only switch is enforced by Neon's server, not locally. - The permission-review ledger records live proof for both methods as not run; the full lifecycle checklist in `doc/connections/NEON.md` still needs a documented pass before the entry is considered fully qualified. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. fix(connections): repair Asana MCP and add shared-app sign-in (#14756)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connections let agents use provider tools through the permission
gateway.
> - Asana provides an official remote MCP server, but its v2 server
requires a registered MCP OAuth app.
> - Setup can discover retired v1 endpoints and send a callback that
differs from the displayed URL.
> - This pull request repairs custom app setup and adds sign-in through
Paperclip's shared app.
> - Users can choose their own app without enrolling with Paperclip
Cloud.
> - Agents can use Asana tools after the user connects their account and
sets action permissions.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Related: #14739 supplies the personal credential repair used by resumed
Asana setup. No duplicate Asana authentication PR was found.
**What happened?**
Asana setup failed even with a user-created app. Root discovery metadata
still points at v1. MCP v2 uses the Asana OAuth issuer and requires an
MCP app with a client secret. Local setup also displayed a localhost
callback while an Origin header could make authorization use a numeric
loopback callback.
**Expected behavior**
Sign in with Paperclip's app when its broker profile is available. Keep
custom MCP app setup available without Cloud enrollment. Use the correct
issuer, callback, client credentials, and resource throughout setup.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open Asana in the connection catalog.
2. Supply an Asana MCP app's client ID and secret.
3. Start OAuth on a local instance opened with a numeric loopback
address, or resume a draft that cached v1 metadata.
4. Observe the wrong discovery endpoint or callback mismatch.

feat(connections): one-screen connector setup with stated defaults (#14811)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents use Connections (the Apps catalog) to act in services like
Notion, GitHub, Google Workspace and Railway
> - Each connector asked the user to answer setup questions before it
went to the provider. Most of the questions already had the correct
answer selected
> - ROADMAP.md lists "simpler setup" for Apps and Connections as ongoing
work. This change continues that work
> - This pull request removes the questions that Paperclip can answer
itself. It states the defaults in one line and moves the choices behind
"Change" and onto the Permissions tab
> - The benefit is that most connectors take one click in Paperclip and
then the provider's own consent screen
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public issue exists. This is the description, from the enhancement
template.
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
The setup flow for tool connectors in the Apps catalog.
**Subsystem affected**
Apps and Connections: `ui/src/features/connections`,
`ui/src/pages/apps`, the `packages/shared` app definitions, and the
OAuth routes in `server/src/routes/tool-access.ts`.
**Current behavior**
Every connector opened with an Access step. The step asked who can use
the connection and which agents get it, and both answers were already
selected. 18 connectors also asked "How do you want to connect?" when
Paperclip could rank the methods. The Google apps and Postman also asked
"What should Paperclip be able to do?" before sign-in. The four gateway
connectors (Zapier, Arcade, Composio, Executor) used a separate two-step
wizard. Asana was pinned to a customer-owned OAuth app, so the user had
to register an app in Asana's developer console. The "Set all" control
on the Permissions tab changed only one action. After the user approved
access, Railway's consent page showed "you can close this window" and
did not return to Paperclip.
**Proposed behavior**
One screen per connector, with one primary button. The screen states the
defaults in one sentence, for example "Connects for everyone in your
organization, available to all agents". A "Change" link opens one
Advanced panel. When the provider's metadata allows dynamic client
registration, Paperclip registers a client itself. Connecting lands on
the Permissions tab. On that tab, "Set all" changes every action in the
group.
**Reason and benefit**
The user makes fewer decisions before the connection exists. Most
choices are easier to make after the connection, on the Permissions tab,
where a change has an immediate effect.
**Breaking changes**
None. No schema or API change. Existing connections keep their settings.
## What Changed
- **No Access step.** `ConnectionSetupFlow` no longer has the Access
step. The flow shows the resolved default above the primary button and
on the completion screen. The access controls moved into one Advanced
panel. The panel opens automatically only when a setting in it is
required.
- **A default method for every app.** The flow always picks the ranked
default method. Alternate methods are in the Advanced panel. The Google
and Postman capability choice is not asked before sign-in. The
write-capable method is the default.
- **Gateway connectors.** `RemoteMcpProductionSetup` (Zapier, Arcade,
Composio, Executor) no longer has its own Access step. Its commit path
and the main commit path use one helper, `askFirstCatalogEntryIdsFor`,
for server-suggested defaults.
- **Dynamic registration from live metadata.**
`canRegisterOAuthClientDynamically` now allows registration when the
provider advertises a registration endpoint, even if the catalog entry
lists only customer-owned clients. The Asana and Linear definitions and
catalog text match live probes. Asana issues clients for loopback
callbacks only, so a hosted deployment still needs an Asana app.
- **Connection setup states.** New
`packages/shared/src/connection-setup-state.ts` sorts each method into
`instant`, `authorize`, `paste` or `register`. The gallery card verb
("Connect" or "Add key") comes from this resolver and the instance's
ownership availability.
- **Generic MCP.** The generic path no longer asks "Does it need a key?"
first. A credential challenge from the server shows the key field.
- **Permissions tab.** Each action row shows its risk level. Each group
has a "Set all" control. The control sends one change for the whole
group. Before, each row's save started from the same render, so the
saves overwrote each other. The Zapier/Arcade/Composio/Executor setup
screen had the same defect.
- **OAuth callback interstitial.** A cross-site browser navigation to
`/api/tools/oauth/callback` gets a small same-origin "Finishing your
connection…" page. That page repeats the request, and the repeat does
the code exchange. Railway's consent page replaces itself after about
two seconds, and the code exchange plus tool discovery takes longer than
that. The interstitial uses only a meta refresh, because the OAuth code
is single-use. Requests without `Sec-Fetch-Site: cross-site` take the
old path.
- **Linear registers through its MCP server.** Linear pins the console
endpoints at `linear.app`. Pinned endpoints now replace discovery only
when the method cannot register, or when the connection has an
operator-entered client. So a Linear connection now finds the
registration endpoint at `mcp.linear.app`.
- **Own-OAuth-app recovery stays on the one-click screen.** When the
method also accepts a customer-owned client, the client fields are in
the Advanced panel. The panel opens after a failed sign-in. "Try again"
resumes the draft with the operator's client.
- **E2E specs** follow the one-screen flow. The Access-step clicks are
removed, the specs open **Change** before they pick agents, and they
expect GitHub's **Add key** verb.
- **Default permissions do not change.** New connections still allow
every action. The user can set actions to Ask first or Off on the
Permissions tab.
## Verification
- `cd ui && npx vitest run src/pages/apps src/features/connections
--no-file-parallelism`
- `cd packages/shared && npx vitest run src/app-definitions.test.ts
src/connection-setup-state.test.ts`
- `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts
src/__tests__/remote-mcp-connectors.test.ts`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- New tests:
- `PermissionsPanel.group.test.tsx` checks that "Set all" sends one
change for the whole group. It fails on the old code.
- `action-permissions.test.ts` checks the group update.
- `connection-setup-state.test.ts` checks the four setup states.
- A server test checks that a cross-site callback gets the interstitial
and does not use the OAuth state, and that the same-origin repeat
completes the connection.
- Manual check on a hosted staging deployment. GitHub, Google Drive,
Composio, Notion, PostHog and Railway each connected from one screen and
returned to the Permissions tab. On Railway, "Set all" changed all 65
write actions, and the change remained after a reload.
- Visual changes: snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated. See
the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot
verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)".
## Risks
- **Fewer confirmation clicks.** Organization-wide access is the
default, and the user does not confirm it on a separate step. This was
already the preselected answer. The flow shows the default before the
user clicks and again after the connection.
- **Google write scope.** Google apps now request the write-capable
scope by default. A narrower scope needs a new sign-in.
- **Dynamic registration from live metadata.** A provider can advertise
registration and then reject a redirect URI. Asana rejects hosted
callbacks, for example. In that case registration fails, and the
customer-owned client path remains available for recovery.
- **Callback interstitial.** The OAuth callback adds one same-origin
step for cross-site browser navigations. Browsers without `Sec-Fetch-*`
headers use the old direct path.
- Chat and bot connectors (Discord, Telegram, Microsoft Teams, iMessage)
do not change.

fix(connections): repair personal credentials and request write access (#14739)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use Apps through a gateway that checks identity, company access, and action policies. > - Personal pasted credentials can point to company secrets. Setup can show success while the gateway rejects every call. > - Several OAuth methods also omit the scopes needed for their supported write actions. > - This pull request gives setup, health checks, and invocation the same credential rules. Owners repair existing connections by reconnecting. > - New connections request reviewed permissions for their supported actions. Read-only choices remain available under Advanced. > - Agents can use the connections people give them, while existing consent, identity boundaries, and action restrictions remain enforced. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14009 and #14008. This addresses the personal-credential defect. The separate GitHub organization-identity selection defect is outside this change. Related work: #13942 fixed part of new personal-key setup. #14200 independently fixes legacy personal reconnect and protects managed-agent profile credentials during removal. This PR covers that ownership invariant across key and secret-URL setup, reconnect, health, discovery, and invocation, and keeps owner reconnect as the repair path. #14059 tracks requested versus provider-asserted OAuth scopes; it remains separate work. I searched open PRs and issues for Zapier, Airtable scopes, connector writes, and personal credential failures. **What happened?** A Zapier secret URL saved through personal setup can become a company secret referenced by a user grant. Health checks bypass the gateway's ownership check, so the connection appears healthy but calls fail with `grant_credential_invalid`. Custom-header paths can also receive a duplicate `credentials.` prefix. Omitted OAuth scopes make write access depend on provider defaults. **Expected behavior** Personal invocation credentials belong to the selected user. Setup, health, and actual calls enforce the same rule. New connections request documented permissions for supported read and write actions. Existing tokens gain no permissions without provider consent. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Connect Zapier or a generic secret URL with the personal identity. 2. Allow an agent to use the connection and complete setup. 3. Invoke a tool through a run-scoped gateway. The legacy layout fails ownership validation despite successful setup. **Paperclip version or commit** The implementation started from `44736c9c7c67b7b646ead9d51721db10f5b83835` and was rebased onto master at `94e8dec56`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Regression tests use isolated PostgreSQL fixtures and controlled MCP transports. ## What Changed - Share credential writing, ownership validation, and canonical paths across initial setup, resume, reconnect, rotation, health, discovery, and gateway calls. Keep OAuth client-registration secrets separate from invocation credentials. - Existing personal connections with company-scoped credentials require owner reconnect with a fresh key or secret URL. Reconnect creates a correctly owned value and updates the existing grant and declarations. There is no automatic ownership backfill or new startup hook. - Preserve PostgreSQL timestamp precision when reconnect checks whether a grant changed. Previously, converting the timestamp to a JavaScript Date could reject reconnect with a false concurrent-change error. - Protect credentials used by other grants, connections, bindings, managed-agent profiles, routine triggers, or secret proposals from connection removal. - Review all 117 tool methods, including 84 OAuth methods. Record explicit scopes or documented provider-default exceptions with official evidence. Add Airtable's seven scopes, Hugging Face repository/job scopes, and other documented MCP permissions. - Prefer available write-capable methods. Put explicit read-only choices under Advanced. Explain pasted-key permissions and offer reconnect for missing OAuth consent. Preserve existing grants, policies, Google availability gates, and curated scope allowlists. - Reconnect generic secret URLs and custom headers using their stored credential fields. Refresh the catalog after setup, correct reconnect feedback and error guidance, and let Cancel exit invalid setup while Save & exit retains draft-saving behavior. - Apply ownership checks to the new GitHub repository/skill connection picker. Align the permission audit with the Google scope reductions merged on master. - Add run-scoped gateway, ownership, owner-reconnect, OAuth URL, insufficient-scope, UI, and catalog-wide regression coverage. Update the connector playbook and permission audit. ## Verification Latest commit `97bc0b86e0eae0ec892e4ac44beff1a66164b20e` passes all CI/status gates (55 completed check runs, no failures or pending checks) and has a completed Greptile review at **5/5 with no outstanding findings**. GitHub reports the PR as mergeable/CLEAN. - **Embedded browser:** used the actual server and built UI from this worktree, a fresh isolated database, and local HTTP MCP fixtures. Completed personal bearer-key, secret-URL, and custom-header setup; reproduced the legacy ownership failure; reconnected through the owner’s form; and completed writes afterward. Read-back was verified for bearer-key and secret-URL connections. Public organization-wide setup appeared immediately in Browse without reload. Zapier URL validation/Cancel and Google’s enrollment gate were also exercised. - **Persistence and invocation:** verified user ownership, canonical `credentials.authorization` / `remote.url` / `headers.X-Api-Key` declarations, and unchanged connection/grant identity. The old company secrets retain their ownership. Separate HTTP calls through an actual run-scoped gateway session completed a write and read-back. - **Backend coverage:** the final gateway suite passes all 82 cases, including catalog Zapier and generic inline reconnect. It checks company/user isolation, canonical declarations, same-endpoint URL validation, fresh credentials, retained restrictions, and real gateway read/write execution using fixture transport. A timestamp with PostgreSQL microseconds covers the former false reconnect conflict. - **Local checks:** 368 catalog, gateway, repository, and UI tests passed before the final extra Zapier case; 49 GitHub skill access tests also passed. All three Apps browser regressions pass, including reconnect through the actual form and catalog visibility without reload. Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, server typecheck after the final patch, and token gates passed. Full tool-access service runs hit varying 15-second Google fixture timeouts; both affected cases and the updated reconnect assertion pass in isolation (3 tests). The complete test matrix passes in CI on this head. - **Verification limits:** no live provider account was available for Zapier/Airtable/OAuth consent or account-bound write proof. Public metadata and local fixtures do not establish provider consent. The original development database clone failed on a pre-existing missing `tool_connections_transport_check` constraint; browser acceptance used a fresh isolated database created by the normal CLI onboarding flow. ## Risks - Existing broken personal connections stay unusable until their owner reconnects. Health, discovery, and invocation return an actionable ownership error; startup does not rewrite credential ownership. - Scope changes affect new authorization requests. Providers may still require resource selection, account roles, paid plans, or app verification. Existing consent and action restrictions remain unchanged. - Shared credentials are retained rather than reassigned or revoked. Provider-default exceptions and unavailable live checks are documented in `doc/connections/CONNECTOR-PERMISSION-AUDIT.md`. - No new endpoint, database table, lockfile change, or CI workflow change is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code editing, shell execution, web research, and browser tools. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session.

Add GitHub-synced skill sources (#14713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Company skills supply instructions and files to those agents. > - GitHub imports already exist, but users cannot manage repositories as skill sources. > - Repository refresh also needs caller-authorized access and complete local packages. > - This pull request adds Sources inside Skills and reuses GitHub connections from Apps. > - Installed snapshots let agents use skills without fetching GitHub during a run. > - Manual refresh preserves skill identity and leaves failed imports on their last good version. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: skills UI, server, database, shared contracts, and runtime materialization. **Problem or motivation** Users keep skills in GitHub repositories. They need a clear way to select, import, and refresh those skills. Existing imports do not expose repository management or consistently preserve supporting files. **Proposed solution** Add company-scoped skill sources. Browse repositories from all accessible GitHub connections, or paste a public repository or branch URL. Select whole skill packages, inspect included files and reference warnings, and install complete, immutable snapshots. Refresh each source manually. **Alternatives considered** Project repository settings hide the workflow from Skills. A second GitHub connector would duplicate credentials and grants. Upstream editing and PR creation are separate work. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the Skills Manager direction in ROADMAP.md. The maintainer requested this scope and reviewed the component and full-app journey stories before implementation. Related reports: Refs #10285, Refs #10949, Refs #13464. Related work: #14356, #13656, #9268. ## What Changed - Add source and entry records, an idempotent migration, company-scoped APIs, and legacy GitHub import adoption. - Reuse current caller grants and credential refresh. Combine and deduplicate repository inventories across accessible connections. Pasted public URLs also prefer the active user’s authorized connections. Tokens stay in the Git child environment, never argv or disk. - Fetch a shallow Git snapshot at one immutable commit. Scan the full local tree, including hidden and nested folders. Read Git objects without checkout or archive transformations and enforce nested package boundaries. - Bound Git downloads to 128 MiB and three minutes. Cancel active process groups and remove incomplete downloads. Preserve cancellation and deadlines while progress drains; close stalled HTTP progress streams after 30 seconds. Reuse caller-scoped temporary snapshots for preview/import after reauthorization. - Index repository package boundaries once and cap expanded work at 1,000 packages, 10,000 files, and 100 MiB, including repeated copies of shared blobs. Bound path depth and the shared path index. Discovery keeps audited manifests without retaining all package bodies. - Resolve moving branches before fetching so unchanged discovery reuses caller-scoped snapshots. Limit active scans, scan frequency, and new downloads per caller and company; quotas apply before metadata reads and across connections, and cached scans do not consume the download quota. - Store complete versions with script content, binary bytes, and executable modes. Preserve these through copies, runtime caches, and runner packaging. - Stage downloads before publication. Use source leases, revision checks, and transactional activity records. Keep installed versions after failures, upstream deletion, deselection, and disconnect. - Add the approved import flow, Sources page, selection tree, provenance, read-only Studio behavior, and saved return from GitHub setup. - Add package manifests, commit-pinned file previews, and separate runtime requirements and reference warnings. Supporting files are included together; nested skills remain independently selectable. Preview requests reauthorize the caller and re-audit package content. - Show installed skills as compact links beneath each source. Repository titles open GitHub. Keep Refresh, Select skills, and Disconnect source in a three-dot menu. Source rows omit the branch, imported count, and refresh timestamp; action alignment and repository titles work at narrow widths. - Stream discovery metadata over an opt-in NDJSON response. Show measured Git download progress and real package/file counts, animate newly checked skills, support cancellation, and require a complete scan before selection. Keep the existing JSON API. - Retain component stories and add a separate full-app journey story group. Include fixed progress states and interactive scan, large-repository, interruption, and saving stories. - Update Skills documentation and product contracts. Suppress private GitHub skill references in telemetry. Privacy review requested for the telemetry changes. ## Verification - Local repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and Storybook build passed during this work. Focused transport, authorization, scanner, persistence, route, and UI tests pass. The final UI refinement passes all eight focused UI tests, UI typecheck/build, and token gates. The scanner resource and repeated-discovery fixes pass 132 focused scanner, transport, authorization, source-service, route, and rate-limit tests, plus server typecheck/build. Full-suite verification comes from CI; the older full local Vitest run was stopped after unrelated chat failures and a font-test failure, all of which passed in fresh focused runs. At commit `1098d5996`, all 54 active checks pass; two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. CI covers repository typecheck, build, the full test suites, browser shards, and the canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings; the security scan also passes. - Adversarial scanner tests verify repeated-blob byte accounting with and without declared sizes, package/file/path caps, one-time repository indexing, metadata-only discovery audits, and nested package boundaries. Additional tests cover branch movement, snapshot reuse, caller/company quotas, isolation across connections, active-lease cleanup, quota recovery, and rejection before any metadata API call. - Real Git tests verify hidden paths, exact binary bytes, executable modes, export-ignore preservation, symlink/submodule reporting, pinned commits, caller-scoped cache reuse, cancellation, cleanup, and credential isolation. Regression tests hold both download slots with permanently blocked progress callbacks, verify timeout/cancellation cleanup and retry, and exercise HTTP backpressure cancellation. Access tests cover automatic public-URL connection selection and revoked grants. Database tests verify company and grant audiences. - Live isolated browser test: the public `anthropics/skills` scan now completes and discovers all 20 skills without connecting an account. Imported canvas-design with all 83 files, opened it from Sources, and verified the installed binary-font preview/download control. Package previews also expose the complete file inventory before import. Cancelled an active Git download and retried successfully to all 20 discovered skills; the browser displayed measured download progress. The current audits reject four other packages; eligible selections remain importable. - Browser checks verify the simplified source rows at desktop and narrow widths, keyboard navigation into the actions menu, Refresh from the menu, selection, and fixture disconnect with installed skills retained. Storybook includes a menu-open checkpoint and a 320px layout. - Storybook includes receiving/preparing download checkpoints and a timed full-app import journey, plus cancellation, retry, large-repository, and saving states. Streaming tests cover split UTF-8 frames, incomplete streams, late responses, cross-company requests, HTTP errors, and JSON compatibility. - Earlier live acceptance on this PR imported `stitch-skill` with `DESIGN.md`, assigned it to an agent, disconnected its source, and ran a successful Studio test that read both installed files. An editable copy changed independently. Both Skills variants, mobile selection, and return from GitHub setup were exercised. - Private access, revoked credentials, OAuth success return, binary/script preservation, concurrent refresh, transaction rollback, version pins, and legacy adoption have automated coverage. A real private-repository OAuth grant was not created during this test. ## Risks - The migration groups recognizable legacy imports without provider calls. Their first successful refresh completes the local package snapshot. - Reference checks are advisory. They cover Markdown links and explicit relative resource paths, not arbitrary runtime dependency graphs. Preview text is capped at 64 KiB; imported bytes remain complete. - Git must be installed on the server. Shallow fetches still download the branch snapshot, including files outside selected packages. Downloads have size/time/concurrency limits. Temporary caches are bounded and caller-scoped. GitHub API quota still applies to repository metadata and the connection picker; content no longer uses per-file API requests. Failed scans retain installed content. - Sources depend on the current caller's GitHub access. A saved connection does not grant access to another person's token. - GitHub script support and immediate manual refresh are explicit maintainer-approved requirements. The operator trusts the selected repository and accepts upstream script and executable-mode changes on refresh. Static audits are not a sandbox or a guarantee of safe code; agents may later invoke installed helpers under their runtime permissions. Import and refresh do not execute scripts, hooks, package installation, or builds. Raw URL and skills.sh imports keep their prior script restrictions. - Source originals remain read-only. Refresh affects subsequent unpinned runs; explicit pins and active runs retain their versions. - The telemetry change removes source-managed GitHub identifiers from skill-reference events. It introduces no event or field. Please review the privacy boundary. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. feat(connections): enable MCP aggregators by default (#13964)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents for work. > - Connections let those agents use external services with explicit access rules. > - Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor already have setup and runtime support. > - Their experimental switch still blocks discovery and setup by default. > - This pull request removes those gates and the Settings toggle. > - Users can connect these providers without enabling an experiment. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13755. Refs #13941. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Apps browsing, inline setup, and agent connection search for the four MCP aggregators. **Current behavior** An instance must enable the MCP aggregators experiment before users or agents can start setup. **Proposed behavior** All four providers are available by default on local and managed instances. Old stored and managed values still parse but cannot disable them. ## What Changed - Remove the aggregator gates from Apps, inline setup, server setup, and agent search. - Remove the Settings toggle and its UI hook. - Retain the old setting key only for upgrade compatibility. Normalize it to true and ignore managed overrides, as Apps already does. - Replace opt-in fixtures with default-on coverage. Test old false values, all four setup flows, provider choice, and the removed toggle. - Update current connector guidance and remove the opt-in from the runner acceptance fixture. ## Verification - 306 focused tests passed across eight files: shared remote MCP contracts; server remote MCP lifecycle, aggregator fallback, settings normalization, and managed overlay; UI Apps browsing, setup, and experimental settings. - Server and UI TypeScript checks passed. - UI token gates and `git diff --check` passed. - The full local suite was not run, per the maintainer's instruction. All 54 CI checks passed; two checks were skipped. One unrelated workspace-preview readiness timeout passed on one failed-shard retry. - The setup fixtures use simulated MCP responses. This change does not claim new live provider acceptance. ## Risks - Existing instances now show all four providers, even if the old flag was false. This is intentional. - External provider choice, credentials, company isolation, agent grants, and tool policies still apply. Showing a connector does not authorize an external account. - No data migration is required. The compatibility key keeps old managed configuration documents valid. - Historical Zapier live acceptance remains incomplete in the existing evidence report. The maintainer explicitly requested the default-on rollout for all four existing providers; the report records that scoped exception. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and test execution. The context window size is not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add experimental memory providers and remote MCP access (#13942)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Agents need durable memory across tasks and execution environments. > - Mem0, Zep, Supermemory, Cognee, and Honcho provide hosted memory tools. > - This pull request adds their setup flows behind an experimental toggle. > - It also delivers assigned MCP tools through the native remote Codex runner. > - Operators can connect a provider once and use the same governed tools locally or in Daytona. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** The Apps catalog lacks a complete set of memory providers. Remote native Codex agents also need access to assigned managed MCP tools without receiving provider credentials. **Proposed solution** Add five memory connectors behind the disabled-by-default Experimental memory connectors setting. Use the existing connection setup and permissions UI. Default their tools to Allowed. Preserve company boundaries, operator permission changes, provider scopes, and audit attribution. **Alternatives considered** Direct provider credentials in each sandbox would duplicate setup and bypass the managed gateway. The remote runner instead uses its existing protocol channel to call the gateway on the server. **Roadmap alignment** This maintainer-requested experiment supports the Memory / Knowledge and Connected Apps roadmap areas. It adds provider connections without introducing a separate memory UI. Related connector authoring documentation is tracked in #13692; no duplicate memory-provider implementation was found. ## What Changed - Add provider definitions, official branding, and the experimental setting for all five providers. - Use OAuth for Zep and Supermemory, API credentials for Mem0 and Honcho, and a bundled Cloud API bridge for Cognee with no runtime downloads or subprocesses. - Default memory tools to Allowed and classify destructive actions explicitly. - Fix personal remote credential resolution and propagate provider tool errors. - Relay assigned managed MCP tools to remote native Codex through the runner protocol. Recheck current authority for each call and rotate stale tool contracts. - Add 21 Storybook states and complete OAuth walkthrough fixtures. - Document provider research, sanitized tool inventory, and live local and Daytona proof. ## Verification - Passed workspace typecheck: `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed production build: `pnpm build`. - Full local `pnpm test:run`: 13,273 passed, with failures from process/readiness timeouts under parallel load. Reran all 16 affected suites with one worker: 456 passed, leaving two macOS `/var` versus `/private/var` path assertions. Both passed with `TMPDIR=/private/tmp`. No test failures remain unverified. Latest-head remote CI passes all 54 checks (two optional Storybook jobs skipped). Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Latest Cognee gateway regression: 71 passed, including public deployment without a runtime host and immediate recovery after a provider error. Bundled bridge tests: 25 passed. - Browser setup and real agent tasks exercised all five providers. Mem0, Cognee, Zep, and Honcho have successful store/retrieve proof. - Supermemory now has scoped read/write consent. Local storage and real Daytona write, document read, and semantic recall passed; indexing completion was verified before claiming success. - All five providers were exercised through a real Daytona sandbox and its native runner MCP relay. Provider credentials remained on the server. The final bundled Cognee bridge also passed a fresh Daytona store/recall run. All disposable sandboxes were removed and verified absent after testing. - Storybook is rebuilt and contains the experimental toggle, catalog, setup, permissions, and error states. The Zep and Supermemory access steps advance correctly. ## Risks - Provider OAuth scopes and plan limits remain independent of Paperclip tool permissions. An Allowed tool can still be rejected by the provider. - Providers can queue memory indexing; save acceptance does not prove that semantic recall is ready. - Remote tool contracts must stay synchronized with current connection authority. Regression tests cover revocation and stale contracts. - This change has no database migration. Existing connections remain usable when the experimental catalog toggle is disabled. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, repository edits, code execution, and browser automation. The exact context window size is not exposed in this session. Live acceptance agents used `gpt-5.6-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(apps): configure MCP aggregators from inline task cards (#13879)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and their work. > - Agents request connections through cards in task threads. > - MCP aggregators need provider-specific URLs and authentication. > - The task dialog used the generic setup form and omitted these fields. > - This pull request uses the same provider setup controller in tasks and Apps. > - Users can configure a connection without leaving the task. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13755, #13855. **What happened?** An inline Executor request opened a very wide dialog with an empty credential step. Connect failed because the MCP URL was missing. The other aggregator cards also bypassed their provider setup. **Expected behavior** Each card shows its provider instructions, URL field, and authentication options in a bounded dialog. Completing setup grants access only to the requesting agent. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable experimental MCP aggregators. 2. Have an agent request Zapier, Arcade, Composio, or Executor from a task. 3. Open the card and continue past Access. ## What Changed - Route page and task setup through the same provider controller. - Bound the task dialog width and preserve the requesting agent's access scope. - Support existing accounts, saved drafts, URL/token setup, and task-bound OAuth. - Keep a sign-in link available when the browser cannot open a popup. Verify completion through the existing durable callback path. - Add inline Access, configuration, and narrow Storybooks for all four providers. - Document the shared setup requirement and correct Executor's URL instructions. ## Verification - Focused Vitest selection: 24 passed. Covers all four inline forms, requester access, existing accounts, saved drafts, OAuth retry, callback validation, popup cleanup, and generic reconnect endpoint preservation. - UI typecheck, UI build, design-token gates, and Storybook build passed. - Live local browser: new Executor, Arcade, and Composio connections completed provider consent from task cards. Each appeared Connected with the requester selected. - Real Test calls returned Executor output `4`, an Arcade public GitHub star count, and Composio tool-discovery results. An ungranted agent was denied access. Real Paperclip process-agent runs discovered each provider catalog with only the requester’s connection installed. - Deployed implementation commit `5d722e89c` to the isolated staging tenant. The original failing Executor card now completes, discovers seven actions, limits access to its requesting agent, and resumes that agent. Its continuation completed real Executor calls and the provider resume flow, then returned an upstream Airtable authorization link. A real staging Test call returned `4` in 1.5 seconds. Later PR commits add regression coverage and popup-unmount cleanup. - Zapier fresh-token browser test remains pending a provider clipboard handoff. Its URL and token flow passes focused tests. - Latest-head CI (`d14f4c73c`): 53 checks passed; optional Storybook deployment and visual regression jobs skipped. Greptile 5/5, both review threads resolved. Canceled runners and unrelated chat timeouts passed the single retry on unchanged code. - The full local test suite was not run, as requested by the maintainer. CI runs the repository gates. ## Risks - OAuth popup behavior differs by browser. The explicit sign-in link and durable server completion checks provide recovery. - Saved task drafts store only a connection ID in browser storage. Credentials remain in the existing server vault. - No database or server protocol changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact context-window size is not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(apps): recover MCP OAuth setup after consent errors (#13855)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - MCP aggregator setup can return from provider consent to a saved draft. > - The branded setup did not explain failed or cancelled authorization. > - It also offered identity changes that the server does not apply when a saved connection resumes. > - This pull request explains OAuth return outcomes and keeps the displayed identity consistent with the saved policy. > - Users can understand the outcome and retry the same connection. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13755 introduced the MCP aggregators. #13758 retired the legacy Composio broker. #13584 proposes changes to the provider handoff window; this fix retains the current handoff behavior. **What happened?** Cancelling Composio consent returned to the setup form with no explanation. The same controller ignored failed OAuth callback outcomes. Returning to Access on a saved draft also offered personal/shared choices, although the server retains the saved identity. This could make the OAuth request disagree with that identity. **Expected behavior** Explain cancellation or failure, preserve the draft, and offer Try again. Display the retained credential identity and start OAuth with the policy returned by the server. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable MCP aggregators and start a Composio connection. 2. Continue to provider consent and cancel it. 3. Observe the return screen. Before this change, it showed the form without cancellation feedback. 4. Go back to Access. Before this change, the form offered personal/shared choices even though resume retains the original identity. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed before the fix on `8c6cc7dccf91523e0720bd86f95487e66b4b0e63`. The original report of successful consent leaving setup unfinished did not reproduce. This PR addresses the recovery defects observed during that investigation. **Deployment mode** Isolated local development instance and authenticated staging deployment, with real Composio consent and provider calls. ## What Changed - Read the OAuth callback outcome in branded MCP setup and show cancellation or failure feedback. - Retry the same saved draft without displaying untrusted callback error text. - Keep saved personal/shared identity fixed in Access and select OAuth identity from the returned credential policy. - Add six focused regression cases and authorization-failure Storybook states for Arcade, Composio, and Executor. - Document return-screen recovery and retained identity in the connector playbook. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx -t 'OAuth return' --maxWorkers=1`: 6 passed, 143 skipped, including after integration with current master. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec tsc --noEmit`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook`: passed for the implementation commit. - Browser recovery: cancelled real Composio consent, observed the new feedback, returned to Access, retried the same personal draft, completed consent, and ran a real tool call. - Staging on implementation commit `84bb40aa70662e0c8955bf692c5714661b4bea93`: fresh shared and personal connections each completed on the first consent attempt and loaded 11 tools. Real discovery, execution, and schema calls succeeded. Both connections stayed Connected after reload. A real agent used the shared connection through the Paperclip gateway and returned the public repository documentation hierarchy with one success and zero errors. - All current-head CI gates passed on `662f84a67e867a52a2e5526026adbed00f6b59bf`. The Cursor execution and agent-chat browser shards each had an initial timeout; both passed on one targeted rerun without code changes. Greptile reviewed this exact head at 5/5, with no open review threads. - No full local suite was run, as requested. CI provides the broader checks. The PR adds a master merge and documentation after the live-tested implementation commit. ## Risks - This shared setup controller also serves Arcade and Executor. Their callback rendering and retry behavior have focused test coverage; this investigation used Composio for live provider testing. - Saved identity remains fixed during resume. A different identity requires a new connection, consistent with server behavior. - No database, protocol, credential storage, or gateway policy changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with code editing, shell tools, and browser testing. The exact runtime model ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(connections): retire the legacy Composio broker (#13758)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their access to external tools. > - Connectors expose these tools through a governed MCP gateway. > - PR #13755 added a direct Composio MCP connection behind the experimental MCP aggregators flag. > - The old project API-key broker still created toolkit child connections and showed a separate Services tab. > - Keeping both paths leaves obsolete setup and session code in the product. > - This change removes the broker and preserves direct MCP setup, credentials, permissions, and execution. > - Saved legacy records fail closed and remain available for explicit removal. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13755. This retirement supersedes the legacy-path fixes proposed in #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906. It does not close those PRs. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Composio connector setup, management, and runtime dispatch. **Current behavior** Composio offers both direct MCP and a project API-key broker. The broker mints sessions and creates one child connection per toolkit. **Proposed behavior** Offer only direct MCP. Remove the toolkit Services UI, REST routes, API client, and session broker. Block saved legacy parent and child records from discovery, execution, health checks, reconnect, and OAuth. Preserve their records and credentials until the operator removes each connection. **Reason and benefit** The direct MCP connector becomes the single supported Composio workflow. Provider accounts remain managed in Composio. ## What Changed - Remove the API-key catalog method and its generated-source definition. - Delete Composio broker clients, session creation, account synchronization, child lifecycle, and toolkit routes. - Remove the Services tab, service rows, child provenance, and cascade-removal controls. Keep Vercel provenance intact. - Retain a shared retirement guard for stored legacy records. Show Retired status and replacement/removal guidance in the connection list and details; hide obsolete runtime controls. - Preserve the experimental MCP aggregators flag and direct MCP infrastructure. - Replace broker fixtures with retirement tests and extend direct Composio catalog/reconnect coverage. ## Verification - Focused shared, server, and UI tests passed with one worker. Server retirement tests use a name filter; no full local test suite was run, as requested. - Server and UI TypeScript checks passed. - Token gates and UI build passed. - Real browser: opened the saved Composio connection, refreshed all 11 tools, and ran the provider's read-only GitHub account-list operation through the standard Test dialog as an agent. The provider returned success using the existing OAuth credentials. - See `doc/connections/COMPOSIO-BROKER-RETIREMENT.md` for scope and live evidence. - Storybook build passed. A fresh real agent used `COMPOSIO_SEARCH_TOOLS` and `COMPOSIO_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` to return the actual Paperclip DeepWiki hierarchy: one success, zero errors. Gateway audit records confirm both calls succeeded. - Browser retirement check: a credential-free legacy fixture showed the guidance, opened the direct MCP replacement flow, and was removed through the standard confirmation. - Focused regressions for the experimental settings copy and exact OpenAPI route coverage passed. All latest-head CI checks passed (54 successful, two intentionally skipped); Greptile scored 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. The PR has no merge conflicts. ## Risks This intentionally breaks the old Composio project API-key and child-connection workflow. Existing legacy records cannot run, even if their stored status is active. Operators must create a new direct MCP connection and choose access rules; credentials and grants are not migrated. Remove each old record separately to delete its credentials. No schema migration or data deletion runs automatically. Direct MCP connections keep their existing grants and secrets. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact runtime variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add experimental MCP aggregator connectors (#13755)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tool gateway applies company access rules and approval controls to connected apps. > - MCP aggregators expose many apps through one provider endpoint. > - Each aggregator needs its own credential, catalog, grants, and lifecycle in Paperclip. > - This pull request adds independent Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor setup with a common Access → Connect layout. > - A default-off MCP aggregators flag lets operators opt in while we complete provider acceptance tests. > - Agents use the normal Paperclip permissions, Test screen, and gateway after setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Apps, connection setup, shared contracts, and the remote MCP gateway. **Problem or motivation** Aggregator endpoints need clear provider setup and correct MCP sessions. Generic setup does not explain each provider's authentication or broad execution tools. Provider approval must preserve the original execution instead of replaying a write. **Proposed solution** Add four separate connectors behind Settings → Experimental → MCP aggregators. Start with human and agent access, then connect the endpoint and read its tools. Enable tools by default. Use the existing Permissions and Test screens after setup. Keep legacy Composio API-key and child connections intact. **Alternatives considered** A shared connection for all providers would mix credentials and access rules. Separate provider-specific permission and test screens would duplicate existing controls. Vercel Connect is outside this change. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps capability and the Connected Apps roadmap area. This work was requested and reviewed by the maintainer. Related work: #11894, #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906 concern the legacy Composio broker. #13102 also covers remote MCP pagination. This change preserves the broker path and adds initialized sessions, response matching, and provider resume handling alongside pagination. ## What Changed - Add branded setup and interactive Storybooks for Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor. Use the existing access controls and normal action tests. Do not request a connection name or action choices during setup. - Add the default-off `enableMcpAggregators` flag to settings, managed feature metadata, the catalog, and setup guards. Hidden connections keep running. Legacy Composio connections remain unchanged. - Reuse the vault, grants, policy, and catalog models. Support OAuth discovery, bearer tokens, custom headers, and credential-bearing URLs. Add no database tables or migrations. - Initialize and retain Streamable HTTP sessions by connection and effective credentials. Read paginated catalogs and match streaming responses to request IDs. - Classify unfamiliar aggregator tools as writes despite upstream read-only hints; only exact reviewed read capabilities enter the read-only allowlist. Legacy Composio child behavior is preserved. - Preserve provider authorization links and execution IDs. Support Executor approve/resume, decline, and cancel without automatic replay of uncertain writes. - Preserve Off and Ask first choices during refresh and reconnect. Allow new tools and retire removed tools. Keep agent access updates atomic and preserve an empty agent selection. - Document connector UX rules, provider branding sources, and live acceptance results. - Stabilize the existing Sentry release fixture after its repeated CI failure by reusing one module mock; production Sentry behavior is unchanged. ## Verification - Final head `d11781970`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35633534900) passed, including broad typecheck, test shards, build, and E2E. All 54 checks pass; 2 optional checks are skipped. Greptile is 5/5, Security Scan passes, and all review threads are resolved. - Passed 27 focused connector Vitest checks and 18 connector-only Storybook browser checks before the flag change. All 85 stories rendered at desktop and narrow widths. - Passed 5 connector lifecycle/server checks and 7 selected flag checks after adding the flag. The latter cover settings, managed defaults, cached catalog visibility, and all four setup routes. - Review fixes passed 13 risk/handoff/lifecycle checks, dedicated session-expiration and transport regressions, 13 selected connector/gateway CI cases, and 10 selected setup/reconnect UI cases. A real Composio connection-list call also succeeded through the refreshed UI on `9ab115f71`. - UI and server TypeScript checks passed. UI build, Storybook build, token gates, and diff whitespace checks passed during implementation. - Real browser and real Paperclip agent tests passed for Arcade, Composio, and Executor. Tested action permissions, denied agent access, reconnect, disconnect, and isolation. Tested Arcade catalog additions/removal and Executor provider approve/resume, decline, and cancel. - Zapier live acceptance is incomplete. Its dedicated provider server is configured, but its credential-copy dialog returned an empty clipboard through browser automation. No live Zapier action is claimed. - The three isolated Sentry release cases pass after the CI fixture fix. - Local verification is deliberately narrow at the maintainer's request. The full local suite, recursive typecheck, and repository-wide build were not run. CI provides the broader checks. ## Risks - Shared MCP transport changes affect other remote MCP servers. Protocol fixtures cover initialized sessions, streaming response matching, pagination, and isolation. - Broad execution tools remain broad permissions. The provider governs actions inside those tools. - Provider handoff links are retained briefly in memory. After a server restart, a one-time link may require reopening the provider dashboard. Paperclip does not replay the original call. - Zapier remains unproven live. Custom-header imports and self-hosted endpoints have fixture coverage rather than a separate live account for every variant. - Turning the experimental flag off hides setup; it does not revoke existing credentials or stop existing connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. A separate Anthropic-backed Paperclip agent performed live gateway acceptance tasks. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): stop the sign-in screen from adding a phantom step (#13601)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents reach other products through connections, which people create
in the connector setup wizard
> - That wizard shows a stepper: a row of dots, a label under each, and
"Step 1 of 2" in the header
> - When a curated OAuth app hands off to the provider, a waiting screen
replaces the wizard while Paperclip prepares sign-in
> - That waiting screen drew its own stepper with three hardcoded
labels, so the stepper grew a dot at the exact moment the person pressed
Connect
> - A stepper that grows mid-flow tells the person they missed a screen
> - This pull request makes the waiting screen show the step model of
the flow that opened it
> - The benefit is that the stepper keeps the same shape from the first
screen to the handoff
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
The connector setup wizard shows a two-step stepper for a curated OAuth
app: two dots, labelled "Access" and "Sign in", with "Step 1 of 2" and
then "Step 2 of 2" in the header. When you press Connect, a third dot
appears, labelled "Ready".
The extra dot comes from the OAuth waiting screen.
`OAuthConnectStateScreen` rendered its own header with
`labels={["Access", "Sign in", "Ready"]}`, a constant that did not
depend on the wizard that opened it.
"Ready" is also not a step the wizard can reach. The success screen
hides the step header, so no one ever sees a third step become active.
**Expected behavior**
The stepper keeps the same number of steps from the first screen through
the provider handoff. Waiting for browser sign-in is part of the last
step, not a step of its own.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open **Apps → Connect** and pick a curated app that signs in through
OAuth, for example Notion.
2. Look at the stepper. It shows two dots and reads "Step 1 of 2".
3. Complete the Access step and press the button that starts sign-in.
4. Look at the stepper on the "Preparing secure sign-in" screen. Before
this change it shows three dots and adds a "Ready" label.
**Paperclip version or commit**
`45586170e` on `master`.
**Deployment mode**
Local.
**Agent adapter(s) involved**
Not adapter-specific (core bug).
**Additional context**
The reporter suggested removing the stepper, on the condition that no
connector flow has three or more steps. One does.
`ConnectionSetupFlow.tsx` keeps `STEP_LABELS = ["Pick app", "Access",
"Add your key"]` for the generic path, which a person walks when they
paste an MCP endpoint instead of choosing a curated app. The two-step
counts apply only after an app is selected. The condition fails, so this
pull request keeps the stepper and repairs the phantom step alone.
## What Changed
- `OAuthConnectStateScreen` takes a `steps` prop: the labels and active
index of the flow that opened it.
- The curated OAuth path passes its own two-step model, so the count
does not change at the handoff.
- The generic pasted-endpoint path passes the three-step model it was
already walking, so its count does not change either.
- The default for hosts without a wizard of their own, such as the
paste-a-config tab, is `["Access", "Sign in"]`. The invented "Ready"
step is gone.
- `AppsConnect.test.tsx` gains a test that reads the stepper before and
after the handoff and fails if the two differ.
## Verification
- `npx vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx
ui/src/features/connections ui/src/pages/tools/PasteConfigTab.test.tsx`
— 185 tests pass.
- `npx vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/generic-mcp-connect.test.ts` — 27
tests pass.
- `npx tsc -b ui` — clean.
- The new test fails on the previous code. With the old three-label
constant restored it reports `["Access", "Sign in", "Ready"]` where it
expects two labels.
## Risks
Low. The change is limited to which labels the waiting screen draws. No
connection logic, no network call, and no navigation changes.

fix: let responsible users choose either AI subscription or API key (#13351)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - AI Connections select the account used for each run. > - A responsible-user binding must follow the person whose work the agent performs. > - The saved sign-in method currently blocks users with another method for the same provider. > - This pull request resolves a personal default by company, user, and provider. > - Each user can use a subscription or API key with the same bot and model. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13247, #13248, #13346, #13347. **What happened?** A bot configured with a Claude subscription rejects another responsible user’s Claude API key. Inline repair also limits that person to the original sign-in method. **Expected behavior** The same bot uses each responsible user’s default Claude account, whether it is a subscription or API key. Explicit shared account selections remain fixed. **Steps to reproduce** 1. User A connects a Claude subscription and creates a bot using the responsible user’s connection. 2. User C connects a personal Claude API key. 3. User C runs the same bot. Before this fix, credential resolution fails. ## What Changed - Add a personal provider-default table. Preserve legacy per-method preferences and backfill the most recently updated preference, including unavailable defaults. Repeated migration does not replace a selection. A database trigger propagates old-server default updates without treating new accounts as replacement defaults. - Resolve responsible-user bindings by provider. Retain the method as a wire compatibility hint for old servers. Explicit selections still require the exact method and grant. - Use the selected account’s method for credential isolation, refresh locking, and run attribution. - Update onboarding, agent setup, the picker, and inline task repair. Keep existing authentication components and harness/model settings. - Add mixed-method runtime, migration, repair, and Storybook coverage. Include upstream’s duplicate Anthropic option fix through the base branch. ## Verification - Focused resolver, migration, connection-intent, onboarding, agent setup, model, and connector UI suites: 331 tests passed. - Onboarding and new-agent regression suites passed during the initial focused run. - UI typecheck, token gates, and Storybook build passed. - Live browser checks passed for Claude and Codex API-default execution, switching both back to subscriptions, and both existing shared-account bots. Bot configuration remained unchanged. - One Daytona startup command stalled before Claude launched. The test run was cancelled, its sandbox stopped, and the same account/task passed on retry. Startup cancellation remains a separate environment finding; this PR does not change that command transport. - Browser review: all eight assertions passed in the new mixed-method story, including shared selection, return to responsible-user selection, and unchanged harness/model. - Repository build and typecheck passed after refreshing upstream dependencies. Final resolver and historical rollback verification: 38 tests passed. All latest-head CI gates passed, including server/workspace/serialized suites, browser E2E, build, typecheck, and runner verification. The extra serial local full-suite run was stopped after equivalent CI passed; focused local checks completed. ## Risks - Users with both historical method defaults get their most recently updated preference as the initial provider default. They can change it explicitly in Connections. - A revoked or unavailable default blocks. Connecting an additional account does not silently replace it. - Existing legacy authentication is unchanged. Managed responsible-user bindings intentionally stop pinning a method. - Live staging: the same Claude and Codex bots completed real API-key runs after changing only the personal default, then completed subscription runs after restoring the original defaults. Read-only database verification confirms unchanged bot configuration and actual method attribution. Distinct-user concurrency is covered by automated real-database tests with synthetic credentials, not two live human logins. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser interaction. fix: reject unsupported REST tool connections without stdio validation (#13346)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their connections. > - Connection checks must use the configured transport. > - The tool service treated every remaining transport as local stdio. > - Anthropic's old REST method therefore failed with a templateId error. A REST connection with a valid stdio template could incorrectly pass. > - Anthropic now has a supported AI-account flow. This pull request removes its obsolete REST setup option and limits stdio checks to stdio connections. > - Users can connect an AI account, and existing unsupported connections receive an accurate error. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13248 added the supported AI-account flow. Searches for related REST health and templateId bugs found no duplicate fix. **What happened?** The Anthropic REST API-key connection showed `Local stdio MCP connections must use an approved templateId`. Health checks and catalog discovery both fell through to the local stdio path. A REST connection with an approved template could report success and expose the template's catalog without a REST integration. **Expected behavior** Only local stdio connections use command templates. Unsupported transports return an accurate HTTP 422 error. New Anthropic accounts use the supported runtime authentication flow. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Check out the test-only commit `924e6e85a` in a separate worktree and install dependencies. 2. Run `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t 'unsupported REST|obsolete Anthropic'`. 3. The tests exercise saved Anthropic REST configuration and an unsupported REST connection containing an approved stdio template. They cover health checks and catalog discovery separately. 4. Run the same tests on the fix commit. They pass. The full affected files also pass. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against master `6cef9743c`. **Deployment mode** Server transport handling. Reproduced with an isolated embedded PostgreSQL test database. No provider account or live credentials are required. ## What Changed - Restrict stdio health checks and tool discovery to `local_stdio`. - Return and audit `tool_connection_transport_unsupported` with HTTP 422 for unsupported tool transports. - Remove Anthropic's obsolete REST method from the generated catalog and its durable ingestion source. Keep its subscription and API-key AI methods. - Cover the reported error, false-success case, rejected obsolete setup, connection removal, and the UI's AI-account submission path. - Replace impossible reconnect forms for removed methods with supported setup, while preserving connection removal. - Preserve AI-versus-tool intent isolation for legacy requests and reject new unsupported Anthropic tool requests. - Document recovery for existing unsupported connections. ## Verification - Clean-worktree red/green: the same command failed all six regression cases at `924e6e85a` and passed all six at `4d3de9de0`. The failing run includes the reported templateId error. - Green: all 555 tests across the six affected test files passed. - Recovery UI red/green: three added cases failed before the recovery fix and passed afterward; all 200 tests across setup, detail, and advanced controls passed. - After the recovery UI update, UI typecheck/build and token gates passed again. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed. - Catalog regeneration — passed with the documented `PAPERCLIP_CONTENT_TEMPLATES` override for the local capture corpus. - Full CI on `69fb31fd4` — passed all general and serialized test shards, browser shards, typecheck, build, runner verification, and canary dry run: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34726975425. - The local serial `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the fixture correction superseded that run; full-suite verification above comes from CI. All 555 affected tests passed locally, including all 17 connection-intent tests after the correction. - Greptile — 5/5, successful check on final commit `69fb31fd4`, no unresolved findings. - No live Anthropic validation was performed. The UI regression uses a fake key and a mocked AI-account response. ## Risks Existing obsolete REST connections remain in needs-attention state. Users must add an account through the supported flow and remove the old connection. Credentials and grants are not transferred automatically. Removal remains covered. The specialized AgentMail and Composio paths keep their existing behavior. There are no schema or permission changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact serving model ID and context-window capacity are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, code editing, shell tools, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: reuse provider sign-in across AI connection workflows (#13248)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Users connect provider accounts during onboarding and agent setup. > - They should reuse and manage those accounts through the existing Connectors interface. > - A second login wizard would diverge from the established provider workflows. > - This pull request composes the existing sign-in components into Connections and agent configuration. > - Users can select accounts without changing their agent's harness or model. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** AI credentials are configured separately from Connections. Agents cannot consistently reuse a responsible user's account or a permitted shared account. **Proposed solution** Manage AI accounts with the existing Connections grants and permissions. Keep model and harness selection independent from credential selection. Preserve legacy authentication until validated adoption. **Alternatives considered** A separate credential registry would duplicate ownership and access policy. Automatic fallback would risk using the wrong account. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Apps, multi-user, secrets, and agent-runtime capabilities. The maintainer requested the feature and reviewed the UI. Related groundwork: #11899 (connection permissions), #10910 (connection wizard), #11692 (Claude subscription profiles), and #11854 (Codex account rotation). ## What Changed - Add compact AI-account management to the existing Connectors pages. - Reuse AgentProviderConnection, AdapterLoginPanel, AdapterLoginChrome, and authentication controllers. - Add the shared connection picker to agent setup/settings and task requests. - Preserve onboarding's sequence and reuse existing accounts. - Add local-login recovery, retry, cancellation, and React StrictMode handling. - Add interactive Storybook scenarios, design-guide examples, and app acceptance checks. This is part 2 of the AI Connections change. The runtime foundation in #13247 is merged. This PR now targets master. ## Verification - Updated against master `47ded8bf9`, including the landed runtime foundation and upstream task-search changes. - Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and token gates passed on the integrated branch. Final local-login changes passed 59 focused tests; new-agent and inbox regression suites passed 63 tests. - Browser checks verified automatic local Claude account detection, resumable Codex login commands, retry, focus restoration, and desktop/phone layouts. Commands create their isolated directory before invoking the CLI. - All CI test, browser, build, packaging, and runner jobs passed on final head `dd17d3211931dd70aaa6ea619d83a7f9966dd18e`. The fresh Greptile review is 5/5, the security scan passed, and there are no unresolved review threads. The final CI aggregate gates passed. - Local general-server coverage passed 11,804 tests; three port-collision failures passed in an isolated 25-test rerun. All 6,111 UI tests passed. CLI coverage passed 484 tests; its remaining doctor test requires port 3199, which is occupied by an unrelated report server on this Mac. The complete CLI suite passed in CI. - Live browser testing verified Codex API-key reconnect inside a task card on desktop and phone. Real provider runs resumed and completed with unchanged connection/grant identity and agent routing. - Tested opening, cancelling, reopening, and completing connection creation. A regression confirms Connect another account cannot submit the new-agent form or copy provider keys into agent settings. - Added shared inline repair, automatic local sign-in checks, and responsive connection dialogs. Standalone Daytona installation ignores workspace configuration and suppresses dependency scripts. Its standalone build also passed with CI's exact pnpm 9.15.4. - Destructive live tests are excluded by default. Explicit opt-in, local deployment checks, and matching disposable fixture identities are required before any mutation. ## Risks - Local Codex/Grok creation requires the connection-specific terminal login command. - Browser sign-in uses the existing supported-environment controllers. - This update verifies live local Claude detection and Codex API-key task repair. New subscription authorization/refresh and independent-human/native-runner isolation were not reverified in this update. - No agent automatically adopts managed Connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The exact runtime model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): repair and simplify Google Workspace setup (#13289)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - App connections give agents controlled access to external services.
> - Managed Google Workspace methods depend on profiles enabled for each
Paperclip instance.
> - The catalog used those profiles, but connection creation used static
availability and rejected enabled connections.
> - Switching capabilities also reset personal ownership to company-wide
ownership.
> - This PR uses the same availability rules for catalog and setup, and
preserves supported ownership choices.
> - Paperclip is the default Google authentication method. A small link
opens custom OAuth settings when needed.
> - Local and cloud instances can start the selected Workspace
connection without broadening its audience.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
A fresh enrolled instance showed managed Google Workspace apps as
available. The issue was first found with Gmail. Selecting Continue to
sign in returned HTTP 422 with “This app does not have an available
connection method.” Changing from Read & create drafts to Read only also
reset Just me to company-wide ownership.
**Expected behavior**
Start Google authorization for an enabled profile. Keep personal
ownership when the selected method supports it. Reject profiles that the
instance cannot use.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start a fresh source test-drive and enroll the instance with
Paperclip Cloud.
2. Open Apps and select Gmail.
3. Select Just me and choose the agents that can use the connection.
4. Continue to setup and select Read only.
5. Go back to inspect ownership, then continue to sign in.

feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. The work records `gpt-6-astra` assistance. The environment does not report a context-window size. No private reasoning traces are included. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): keep task context through Cloud enrollment and OAuth (#13098)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip lets people manage agent work from tasks.
> - Agents can request app access in a task card.
> - Some apps first require Paperclip Cloud enrollment.
> - Enrollment could leave the task, and OAuth could lose the task
interaction ID.
> - This PR keeps enrollment in a separate window and retains the
interaction ID through OAuth.
> - The task can then recognize the connection and continue
automatically.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
A first Gmail connection could leave the task dialog during Cloud
enrollment. Setup resumed on the Apps page. Gmail connected, but the
task card could remain pending because OAuth did not retain its
interaction ID.
**Expected behavior**
Keep the task open and preserve its access choices. Resolve the card
after the server verifies connection access. Continue the agent
automatically.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start a fresh source test-drive instance without Cloud enrollment.
2. Ask an agent to read Gmail.
3. Open Connect on the task card.
4. Complete Cloud enrollment and Gmail authorization.
5. Check whether the task card updates without selecting the connection
again.

feat(connections): connect services from native task feeds (#13058)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents use connections to reach external services. > - A fresh native task can have no service tools installed. > - The agent needs a way to discover services and ask the responsible person for access. > - This pull request brings the existing connection-intent flow into native task execution. > - The person can connect from the task, and the agent can continue with updated tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Native runner tool authority, connection intents, task interactions, and shared connection setup. **Problem or motivation** A task that needs an unconnected service cannot finish its work. Leaving the task to configure access also loses context. A resolved request must survive a restart and resume the correct agent once. **Proposed solution** Expose connection discovery and access requests as server-owned native tools. Render a durable task card and use the shared setup dialog. Persist outcome delivery and start a fresh provider session after access is ready. **Alternatives considered** Sending the person to the Connections page adds navigation and does not solve continuation. Polling for authorization consumes runs and can create duplicate requests. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing connection-intent runtime and setup experience. It reuses the shared access model and the native runner. Related: #12345, #12347. The service-slug fix in #12906 is related but separate. Companion evaluation PR: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/21. ## What Changed - Expose `connections_search` and `connection_request` with server-bound company, task, agent, and responsible user. Preserve the legacy entry points. - Discover catalog services and authorized custom connections. Check installation, identity, health, and executable permissions before reporting ready. - Keep pending cards through ordinary messages. Reuse requests and retire stale ownership. Put Connect at the right of Not now. - Reuse the shared setup flow in a task dialog. Keep access additive and default to the requesting agent. Recover from cancelled or blocked OAuth windows with a new-tab fallback. - Persist outcome delivery with an idempotent wake key. Resume in a fresh session and recheck ownership before dispatch. - Add native browser fixtures, offline Storybook states, server contracts, and evaluation fixtures. Update guidance and documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm build`: passed after replaying the change on current master. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook`: passed. - New continuation-policy regression cases: 16 passed. - Docker-backed PostgreSQL regressions passed for requester-only OAuth access, assignment-only expiry, terminal expiry, and credential-free setup metadata. - Shared setup and task-card UI tests: 121 passed, including configured MCP reconnect URL recovery and preserving user edits across refetch. - Storybook browser checks: all 119 passed on the latest reconnect fix. - `pnpm test:run`: 4,734 tests passed in the first server group, but embedded PostgreSQL startup failures and resulting cleanup errors prevented a complete local pass. All Linux CI lanes passed on the latest reviewed commit. One external-object route test returned an unexplained 500 on the first run; it passed twice locally and the failed shard passed on retry without code changes. - Earlier feature-checkout evidence: three deterministic native browser journeys passed, including restart delivery and an actual fixture tool result. Legacy scripted coverage also passed. All 59 added stories were inspected in light and dark themes. - Live Notion testing recorded successful provider reads. The manual test used a local-trusted instance. It does not prove authenticated/cloud deployment or every provider journey. - Native browser rerun reached the embedded PostgreSQL startup limit before bootstrap, so the latest checkout’s full native browser journey remains unverified. Both OAuth page/task regression cases passed against isolated Docker-backed PostgreSQL 17. They verify no premature task access, requester-only completion, additive retries, and reconnect preservation. - Applied both new migrations twice to isolated PostgreSQL 17. Foreign keys remained intact, duplicate active delivery keys were rejected, and failed delivery records did not block retries. Reviewer path: start a fresh test drive, enable the native runner, use an agent that can perform work directly, and ask it to summarize a Notion page. Connect from the card, then verify the resumed provider call and source-linked answer. The default test-drive CEO is instructed to delegate, so it can introduce an unrelated hiring step. ## Risks - Two additive migrations create durable deliveries and a partial unique wake index. They are idempotent. The wake index can require a maintenance window on large tables because migrations run in a transaction. - OAuth and continuation cross asynchronous boundaries. Tests cover ownership changes, retries, additive access, and restart delivery; live provider behavior still varies. - The latest requester-scope fix has not yet been exercised through live OAuth. GitHub, API-key, authenticated-user, and all recovery journeys are not claimed as verified. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6-based Codex assisted with implementation, tests, and review using tools and code execution. The runtime does not expose the exact model version, context window, or reasoning setting. Live evaluation used `gpt-5.6-luna`; manual native testing used `gpt-5.6-sol`. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used and disclosed unavailable runtime details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this extends existing connection work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the feature issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [ ] I have run all required tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(projects): select multiple GitHub source repositories (#13010)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Projects give tasks a common source repository and execution context. > - The current project form asks for a raw URL and unrelated metadata. > - Teams need to select several repos from GitHub connections they can use. > - This pull request implements the reviewed project form and repository editor. > - The server checks credential ownership and shared audiences before discovery. > - Existing workspace URLs and runtime identity rules remain compatible. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Project creation accepts one raw repository URL. It does not help users select repos from their usable GitHub connections or attach several repos together. **Proposed solution** Add a shared GitHub repository picker to project creation and Configuration. Support multiple selections, transactional persistence, and the existing GitHub setup flow. Simplify the project form and Configuration tab as reviewed. **Alternatives considered** Keep a raw URL field or add a separate repository table. The existing workspace collection already supports several repositories and keeps legacy URLs compatible. **Roadmap alignment** This builds on the shipped MCP Tool Gateway and Apps capability. It does not change runtime credential delegation. Related work: #11662 addresses the existing dialog's viewport limits. #4552 addresses generic Git URLs; this change preserves those URLs in existing workspaces. ## What Changed - Add company-scoped repository discovery from usable personal and shared GitHub grants, with provider-ID deduplication, PAT pagination, and partial failure handling. - Document the repository endpoints and board access requirements in OpenAPI. - Validate new selections and save projects with multiple repository workspaces in one transaction. Preserve legacy URLs and existing selections whose access was lost. - Implement the reviewed Create project dialog, shared repository editor, scrolling, and mobile layout. - Move repositories above environment variables, remove Status and Goals controls and env help paragraphs, move Created to the bottom, and redirect Overview to Configuration. - Reuse GitHub setup in dialogs, preserve project drafts, and verify popup completion through the API. - Replace the configuration story's DOM adapter with explicit production composition. Keep the reviewed mobile and short-viewport stories. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build-storybook`, and `pnpm check:token-gates`. - Passed: focused repository access, database persistence, configuration, and connection setup tests. - Passed: `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/project-repositories.spec.ts`. - The browser tests use a real temporary server/database. They cover create, forty persisted repos, mobile scrolling, save/reload, legacy URL editing, and rejection without a partial project. - GitHub responses and popup completion use deterministic fixtures. No real GitHub account was authorized by the test suite. - All CI general, serialized server, and browser test shards pass on the final commit. - The local full-suite run overlapped review edits and was stopped; fresh repository, OpenAPI, UI/CLI, and connection tests pass. Unrelated local worker, built-in-agent, and routine timing/socket failures passed isolated reruns. - Final commit `1b3308dca`: all CI gates pass, including build, runner verification, typecheck, canary dry run, and security checks. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - Storybook visual regression is opt-in and was skipped by CI; the Storybook build passed locally. ## Risks - Repository discovery depends on provider availability. Failed connections are reported while successful results stay usable. - Selections identify source workspaces; they do not grant agents new credentials. The existing primary-workspace and responsible-user identity rules still apply. - No database migration is needed. Existing API status, goals, dates, and manual workspace URLs remain supported. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code execution, and browser tools. The runtime does not expose a more specific model deployment ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve GitHub sign-in and show connected repository access (#12993)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - GitHub connections give agents an account with selected repository access. > - Fresh local instances enroll with production Paperclip Cloud. > - Enrollment could finish while the GitHub OAuth profile remained disabled. > - Setup then switched to a personal access token form without explanation. > - This change preserves sign-in intent and shows the connected account and repositories. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #12907, #12943, #12947. Existing open GitHub connection work was checked. No duplicate was found. **What happened?** After Cloud enrollment, a fresh test-drive asked for a GitHub key. Production did not advertise the managed GitHub profile. Staging did. The permissions page also omitted the authenticated username and repository names. **Expected behavior** Continue with GitHub OAuth when available. Explain unavailable sign-in and allow retry otherwise. Show the GitHub username and complete accessible repository list. **Steps to reproduce** Start a fresh test-drive. Choose GitHub and complete instance enrollment while the Cloud GitHub profile is disabled. Open an existing GitHub connection's permissions page. ## What Changed - Preserve managed sign-in intent when the gallery omits its profile. - Refresh the selected gallery entry on retry without resetting the audience. - Fetch all pages of GitHub installations and repositories. - Store only repository IDs, full names, and installation IDs in grant metadata. - Show the GitHub username, repository list, management link, and refresh action. - Discard the repository snapshot after newer installation lifecycle events. Preserve snapshots verified after delayed events. - Lock and re-read grant metadata when applying installation events or saving refreshed access. Patch only webhook fields for other events. Reject snapshots if access changed during the external fetch, using unique access revisions even when timestamps collide. - Show repository installation recovery for managed OAuth even when the app also offers an advanced PAT method. - Update tests and the GitHub connection runbook. No SQL migration is required. ## Verification - Local typecheck, build, and token gates passed. All latest-head CI gates passed, including the complete test matrix and browser suites. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - All 382 focused setup, permissions, metadata, service, and webhook tests passed across final runs. One socket-hang-up test passed on rerun with the full service suite. Final service, metadata, and webhook checks passed all 230 tests. - The broad local suite was stopped after failures. Seven workspace-runtime exposure and control-conflict failures reproduce on base commit `54a99d884`. The broad run also overlapped local iteration; final focused tests and clean-checkout CI are tracked separately. - Browser: a fresh production-backed instance completed enrollment, retried after profile enablement, reached GitHub consent, recovered from a missing installation, and completed OAuth. - Browser: the permissions page showed the authenticated username and the selected private test repository. A real `get_me` call returned the same account. Reading the selected repository passed; reading an unselected private repository failed with 404. - Browser: a second fresh instance completed enrollment and OAuth without a PAT form or unavailable state. Its username and repository list survived reload and refresh. A real get_me call on the final code returned the displayed account. ## Risks - Repository names are now stored in company-scoped grant metadata and shown with that credential. They are display data, not authorization data. - Large selections require more GitHub API calls. A failed later page rejects the refresh rather than reporting a partial list. - Older grants and webhook-invalidated snapshots require Refresh access to load the list. - Cloud profile enablement is separate deployment configuration. This PR does not change OAuth scopes or GitHub App permissions. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) via Codex. Reasoning, code execution, and browser tools were used. The exact context window size was not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): distinguish local setup from provider handoff (#12947)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give those agents access to external services. > - Connection setup first asks who may use the credential. > - Some providers need a local method selection before OAuth starts. > - The Access button said it would open GitHub even when it opened another local step. > - This pull request names the actual next action and shows the external arrow only for a provider handoff. > - Users can distinguish local setup from leaving Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #12943 The browser audit found a second, separate clarity problem. GitHub showed "Continue to GitHub" twice: once to open its local method selection and once to start OAuth. The first label promised the wrong action. This change fixes that label without adding or removing a setup step. ## What Changed - Use "Continue" when Access opens another local OAuth setup step. - Keep "Continue to <provider>" and the external arrow when Access starts OAuth directly. - Test GitHub defaults, pre-enrollment setup, direct Notion OAuth, and dialog behavior. - Document the two GitHub button actions. - Preserve the external-handoff arrow in the direct-OAuth Storybook fixture. ## Verification - Targeted connection tests: 114 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`: passed. - `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs`: passed. - `git diff --check`: passed. - After the Storybook review fix: 100 connection-flow tests, UI typecheck, token gates, and Storybook build passed; visually confirmed the Gmail handoff arrow and local GitHub step labels. - Actual test-drive browser: confirmed default personal identity and Any agent; clicked Continue to the local method screen; switched PAT and OAuth; returned to Access with selections intact; cancelled without a duplicate connection. - Live OAuth, local MCP identity, and a real staging sandbox task passed during the audit. This patch does not change those paths. - Full local suite has known unrelated macOS path/runtime test failures from the audit. All CI passed on head `936ce09f4e1faaf09f9fb778c2cd4c65c2a41972`, including typecheck, build, all test shards, browser tests, and canary dry run. Greptile: 5/5; no unresolved comments. ## Risks - Low risk. This changes button text and an icon cue only. There is no new schema, permission, consent, or credential behavior. - Providers with multiple methods now say Continue before their method screen. Direct OAuth providers keep their existing wording. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex assisted with code, tests, terminal checks, and actual browser verification. The runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context-window size, so those details are unavailable. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted tests; full-suite caveats above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): refresh expired pending enrollment links (#12943)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Managed connections deliver credentials to an approved instance.
> - A self-hosted instance starts with a time-limited approval link.
> - The setup page cached that link and reused it after expiry.
> - This pull request lets the existing server choose a valid enrollment
link.
> - Users can recover without another setup step or a service restart.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Related: #12891 (one-time enrollment) and #12907 (sandbox GitHub
identity).
No duplicate open enrollment-recovery PR or issue was found.
**What happened?**
After a pending Cloud enrollment expired, Continue opened the same
expired
approval link. Cloud returned ENROLLMENT_NOT_AVAILABLE. Returning to
setup and
selecting Continue repeated the failure.
**Expected behavior**
Continue must ask the server for a valid enrollment. The server must
reuse a
live pending enrollment and replace an expired one. Existing approved
instances
must not need another approval.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start GitHub setup on a fresh self-hosted instance.
2. Start Cloud enrollment but leave it unapproved until the link
expires.
3. Return to step 2 and select Continue.
4. Before this change, the browser opens the expired link again.

fix(connections): project GitHub identity into sandbox runners (#12907)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Managed GitHub connections resolve a responsible user's or dedicated agent's identity into an audited, run-scoped credential projection. > - An enrolled instance could retain a hidden managed setup method after Cloud stopped advertising it, producing a blank, disabled setup step. > - Native runner processes also dropped the resolved GitHub projection before the provider shell, so `gh` and Git could not use the selected identity in Daytona. > - Daytona already provides the outer isolation boundary. Applying Codex's inner Linux sandbox there both duplicated containment and failed because nested user namespaces are unavailable. > - This change repairs setup fallback, carries only the bounded GitHub projection across each runner boundary, and allows only a controller-selected managed sandbox transport to act as the outer sandbox. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An enrolled self-hosted instance could show a blank GitHub setup step when its managed profile was unavailable. Separately, a native Codex run in Daytona could resolve a managed GitHub connection on the Paperclip host but lose it before the provider shell. Once projected, Codex's nested sandbox failed before commands could run because Daytona does not expose the user-namespace operation used by the inner sandbox. **Expected behavior** Setup must select an advertised customer method when the managed method is unavailable. A Daytona run must receive the exact managed GitHub identity selected for that run, support `gh` and HTTPS Git, and rely on Daytona as its outer sandbox without weakening local or SSH execution. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enroll a self-hosted instance while Cloud does not advertise the managed GitHub profile and open GitHub setup. 2. Observe the blank second step and disabled action. 3. Configure a native Codex agent with a Daytona environment and a responsible-user GitHub grant. 4. Run `gh api user` or HTTPS Git from the agent shell. 5. Observe missing GitHub environment projection or nested-sandbox startup failure. **Paperclip version or commit** The setup bug reproduces on `1dceee9a4`; the runner proof was developed from the same branch and verified at the latest head below. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted Paperclip enrolled with Paperclip Cloud, using the Daytona sandbox-provider plugin and native Paperclip runner. ## What Changed - Wait for connector enrollment hydration, retain a hidden managed method only while enrollment is needed, and otherwise select an advertised customer fallback. - Add a single bounded GitHub credential-environment projection for `GH_TOKEN`, `GITHUB_TOKEN`, the process-only Git helper token, GitHub commit identity, and at most 32 controller-generated Git config entries. - Forward that projection through the durable controller, Codex app-server transport, and Rust provider child without placing token values in arguments or config. - Allow Codex shell inheritance only for the exact projected GitHub keys and enable provider network access only when the managed credential exists. - Derive outer-sandbox authority exclusively from a managed `sandbox` transport; strip the same flag from configured, host, local, and SSH environments. - Define a named external-sandbox permission profile that Codex resolves to `dangerFullAccess` for default-mode Daytona turns while plan mode remains read-only. - Add regression tests for setup fallback, credential projection, local/SSH/sandbox authority separation, provider forwarding, and permission-profile selection. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx` — 96 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run src/drivers/codex/codex-security-config.test.ts src/drivers/codex/app-server-transport.test.ts src/control-plane/durable-prp-control-plane.test.ts` from `packages/paperclip-runner` — 31 passed. - Focused native-session executor tests — 3 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed. - `cargo test --manifest-path packages/paperclip-runner/runner/Cargo.toml --locked -p paperclip-runner-core --lib` — 194 passed. - Real Codex app-server configuration probe accepted `paperclip-runner-external-sandbox` and reported `sandbox.type=\"dangerFullAccess\"` while using the named profile. - [Signed Daytona image workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/33995270328) built commit `86571f7997e7100e47bd131aac1f1e773112a0ce`; the isolated environment was pinned to `sha256:ecef21105f8de382d75787e59439d936be239b77ae74a31c8ed3a17cde39b023`. - Live isolated Daytona proof passed: the three projected token variables were non-empty and equal; the host-scoped Git credential helper returned the same token without printing it; `gh api user` resolved `cryppadotta`; authenticated `git ls-remote https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip.git HEAD` returned `1dceee9a4e75b13456760bb54c752deb2dba1d79`; no repository mutation occurred. - The persisted 28,476-byte run log contains no GitHub token shape, bearer header, credential-bearing URL, or private-key marker. - Latest-head pull-request CI and reviews provide the remaining full-suite gate. ## Risks - This deliberately gives shell Git and `gh` access to the run's resolved GitHub identity. It is the audited class-3 behavior required by the GitHub connection design and is outside per-tool Ask-first controls. - The credential source is the trusted broker projection, which overwrites configured environment values. The helper is scoped to HTTPS `github.com`, revalidates protocol and host, and never places its token in command arguments, URLs, or files. - Managed Daytona sandboxes become the containment boundary for default-mode provider commands. Local and SSH targets retain the inner Codex workspace sandbox, and plan mode remains read-only everywhere. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, with reasoning, browser control, shell access, and code execution. fix(connections): reuse one-time cloud enrollment (#12891)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Managed connections let agents use provider credentials without exposing those credentials to the control plane UI > - A self-hosted instance must first establish a trusted credential destination with Paperclip Cloud > - The GitHub connection flow repeated that trust decision before provider consent > - The local setup route also lost step 2 after enrollment and could display the PAT identity defaults before enrollment > - This pull request makes enrollment a one-time instance decision and sends later provider starts directly to provider consent > - The benefit is a shorter flow with one clear Paperclip approval and no required service restart ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12843. Companion Cloud change: [paperclipai/paperclip-cloud#391](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/391). ## What Changed - Made `stage=setup` authoritative during initial route hydration and enrollment return. - Added a contained one-time enrollment screen with provider-specific copy. - Accepted a provider `authorizationUrl` from Paperclip Cloud only when it matches the exact GitHub or Google OAuth endpoint. - Preferred the direct provider URL while retaining the legacy confirmation URL fallback. - Preserved the company-bound identity and agent-access draft across the full-page enrollment callback, including cold company-context hydration. - Kept GitHub defaulted to “My GitHub account” and “Any agent,” including before Cloud advertises the managed method. - Updated GitHub identity and agent-access copy for responsible-person and dedicated-agent behavior. - Labeled the provider action “Continue to GitHub.” - Added parser, routing, cold-hydration, access-restoration, visibility, fallback, defaults, and copy tests. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx` (114 tests passed) - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - Live browser proof used a new data directory on `127.0.0.1:3117` and the exact Cloud PR revision on staging. - The fresh flow selected “My GitHub account” and “Any agent,” showed one enrollment approval, returned to local step 2, and connected GitHub without a second Paperclip confirmation or login. - The connected screen showed one selected repository, a long-lived token, installation metadata, a successful access refresh, and healthy webhook delivery. - Gmail on the same instance went directly to Google consent without another Paperclip approval. - Restarting the same data directory preserved enrollment. A second new data directory required exactly one new approval. - A final fresh-data-dir rerun selected a dedicated GitHub identity for Ada before enrollment, approved the instance once, returned to step 2, retained Ada after a Back check, connected directly through GitHub, and finished with “Used only by Ada,” one selected repository, and a long-lived token. - Port 3100 remained untouched throughout the proof. ## Risks - The new Cloud field is additive and restricted to the exact GitHub and Google OAuth origins and paths, with no embedded credentials or URL fragment. - An older Cloud response still works through `confirmationUrl`. - A self-hosted instance still requires one signed Cloud enrollment. Managed Cloud instances do not render the enrollment screen. - Provider authentication and consent remain mandatory after instance enrollment. - No schema migration is included in this pull request. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. feat(connections): add durable GitHub identities and webhooks (#12843)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents need source control access for repository work > - A shared token cannot preserve the responsible person's identity or an agent's dedicated identity > - GitHub App tokens also need durable refresh, repository access checks, and webhook delivery > - Paperclip already has managed connections, encrypted grants, run secret leases, and merge-confirmation behavior > - This pull request extends those systems with GitHub identities instead of adding a parallel credential system > - The benefit is durable GitHub access with explicit identity, repository, runtime, and webhook boundaries ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue describes this connection change. This description follows the feature request template. **Subsystem affected** Connected Apps, connection grants, secret resolution, native Git runtime setup, webhook processing, and the Apps UI. **Problem or motivation** Users need to connect GitHub once and let agents use the correct GitHub identity. A run should use a dedicated agent account when one exists. Otherwise, it should use the responsible person's account. The connection must survive token expiry, repository access changes, and temporary instance downtime. **Proposed solution** Add user-owned and agent-owned GitHub grants to the existing connection model. Resolve one identity for MCP, Git, `gh`, health checks, and webhook bindings. Store provider tokens in the existing encrypted secret system. Refresh expiring token pairs under the existing lease and compare-and-swap path. Register signed Cloud webhook bindings and process normalized pull request and installation events through a durable local inbox. **Alternatives considered** An organization-wide GitHub token would lose person and agent attribution. Environment variables alone would bypass the managed connection and grant model. A new GitHub-only credential store would duplicate the existing secret and access systems. GitHub App installation tokens and private-key custody remain outside this first version. **Roadmap alignment** This change implements the Connected Apps direction. It also extends the shipped MCP Tool Gateway, per-agent secret access, and action-attribution systems. It does not add a repository catalog. The open repository catalog work in [#11234](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/11234) is related and complementary. ## What Changed - Added agent-owned connection grants and a per-agent credential policy with company and subject constraints. - Added a managed GitHub App method while keeping the personal access token method as an advanced fallback. - Added durable access-token and refresh-token handling with proactive rotation and one automatic recovery after a provider `401`. - Added GitHub identity and installation summaries without storing repository-name lists. - Added signed Cloud webhook binding, event lease, acknowledgement, local idempotency, pull request merge processing, and installation access handling. - Added one identity resolver for MCP, native Git, `gh`, checkout, health checks, and webhook bindings. - Added a class-3 run projection for `GH_TOKEN`, `GITHUB_TOKEN`, a `github.com`-only credential helper, SSH-to-HTTPS rewrite, and GitHub noreply commit attribution. - Added personal and dedicated-agent setup choices plus identity, repository, continuity, and webhook status in the Apps UI. - Added schema migrations, tests, and connection documentation. ## Verification - The current head is fully green in GitHub CI, including build, typecheck, all serialized/general server shards, all browser shards, policy, canary dry run, review, and security checks. - Live staging proof completed with a non-expiring GitHub App user token, selected-repository installation, repository add/remove refresh, managed MCP, native `gh`, HTTPS clone/push/delete, GitHub noreply commit attribution, signed merged-PR webhook acceptance, durable Cloud-to-instance delivery, and installation-access event processing. Temporary branches and temporary repository access were removed afterward. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed before and after the rebase onto `origin/master`. - `pnpm build` passed. - The focused connector suite passed 285 tests after the rebase. - The full stable suite passed 5,790 tests and failed 22 tests across 8 general server files. The failures reproduced as shared-runner environment issues. They included `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`, closed database connections, and invalid high ephemeral ports. The focused connection tests pass in isolation. ## Risks - Migrations add agent grant subjects and a durable connection-event inbox. Migration numbering and safety checks pass. - A raw GitHub user token enters the agent process for Git and `gh`. Per-tool Ask-first controls cannot limit those shell operations. The UI warns users about this boundary. - GitHub App user tokens can be non-expiring. Paperclip performs a continuity check every 30 days, but provider revocation still requires a reconnect. - The webhook path accepts only signed and bounded payloads. It stores a minimal normalized record and no raw provider payload. - GitHub repository permissions remain authoritative. Removed access can make a cached repository count temporarily stale, but runtime access fails immediately. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(apps): unify permissions and action testing (#12802)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for companies that use AI agents. > - Apps give humans and agents controlled access to external services. > - The existing app detail flow split permissions, tests, setup, and activity across separate pages. > - The split made access rules harder to understand and made reconnect work hard to find. > - New write actions also defaulted to Ask first, which did not match the intended connection policy. > - This pull request combines permission control and action testing, removes the setup page, and moves connection activity into Audit. > - The benefit is one clear place to configure, test, reconnect, and review each app. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The installed app Permissions, Test, Setup, and Activity views. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change updates the React UI, shared app defaults, server permission behavior, tests, smoke scripts, and connection documentation. **Current behavior** App access and action testing use separate pages. The app detail view also links to a setup page after installation. Connection activity uses a separate tab. New write actions default to Ask first. **Proposed behavior** Permissions uses the connection access language from the initial flow. It includes searchable Read and Write sections, a three-state permission control, and a Test dialog for each action. Reconnect appears below a Needs attention header on Permissions and Review. Old Setup and Test links redirect to Permissions. Old Activity links redirect to the filtered company Audit feed. New write actions default to Allowed. **Reason and benefit** A person can understand and test app access without moving between several pages. Reconnect work stays visible where the person reviews the connection. Audit events use one consistent feed and filter model. New connections have the intended default policy. **Breaking changes** The Setup, Test, and app Activity tabs are removed. Existing deep links redirect to their replacement pages. Existing saved action permissions do not change. Only defaults for new write actions change. **Additional context** This builds on the managed app connection work in #12728. A search found no duplicate open pull request or issue. ## What Changed - Combined action testing with Permissions. - Added searchable Read and Write action groups. - Added Off, Ask first, and Allowed controls with tooltips. - Added an action Test dialog with agent selection, arguments, and formatted results. - Removed the installed-app Setup and Activity tabs. - Added reconnect guidance to Permissions and Review when a connection needs attention. - Routed connection activity into the company Audit feed and preserved the Apps & tools filter in streamlined Audit. - Moved connection removal to the Connectors-page management menu. - Made new write actions default to Allowed across connection creation paths. - Updated regression tests, browser suites, smoke scripts, and connection documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/generic-mcp-connection.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts ui/src/components/AppConnectionSidebar.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppNotConnected.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Connections.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/composio-services.test.ts ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx ui/src/pages/tools/PasteConfigTab.test.tsx` (517 tests passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/app-detail/TestPanel.test.tsx ui/src/pages/audit/AuditHub.test.tsx ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx` (96 tests passed) - Targeted Playwright verification for connection removal, rename on Permissions, inline action testing, and Smoke Lab Audit evidence (5 flows passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,755 passing tests and 20 unrelated macOS harness failures. The failures use `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`, invalid ports above 65535, and workspace fixtures outside this change. ## Risks - Low migration risk. This change has no database migration. - Old app-detail URLs depend on redirect compatibility. - New connections grant write actions by default. Finalization remains configure-authorized and audited, Ask first and Off remain available per action, and existing connections keep their saved policy. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected - check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5`. Make managed Cloud OAuth handoffs invisible (#12790)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Apps let people give agents governed access to external providers > - Paperclip Cloud brokers shared provider authorization for managed stacks > - The managed flow sent the browser through a confirmation page after the tenant had already prepared sign-in > - A lost confirmation response could also show an expired-session error before the provider page opened > - This pull request adds an opaque handoff contract and one shared tenant coordinator > - The benefit is a direct and recoverable transition from Paperclip to every Cloud-brokered provider ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A managed Paperclip Cloud connection opened the Cloud confirmation route. A response-loss race could show an expired-session error while the authorization still continued. **Expected behavior** The current Paperclip loading state must stay visible while the tenant exchanges an opaque session. The browser must then open the provider directly. Self-hosted and direct OAuth must keep their existing behavior. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open Apps on a Paperclip Cloud stack. 2. Start a managed provider connection. 3. Select Continue to sign in. 4. Observe that the browser visits the Cloud confirmation route before it reaches the provider. **Paperclip version or commit** `b872cd3d1b404bdaff70af493a2973ceb7e5d6ec` **Deployment mode** Paperclip Cloud hosted stack. No related open issue or pull request was found in the repository search. ## What Changed - Add a backward-compatible opaque Cloud handoff to the shared OAuth start contract. - Validate the Cloud descriptor on the server and expose no browser-selected endpoint. - Exchange managed handoffs through one fixed same-origin route in every Apps OAuth launcher. - Keep dialog popups reserved before asynchronous work and retain the tenant loading state. - Add recent-login resume storage, bounded retry behavior, terminal tenant errors, tests, and Storybook states. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - Focused connector and UI suites: 184 passed and 202 skipped. - `pnpm build` - `pnpm build-storybook` - The full local suite reached one unrelated macOS path-alias failure. The untouched test expected `/var/...` and received the equivalent `/private/var/...`. The same test reproduces in isolation. ## Risks - A malformed managed descriptor now fails closed in Paperclip instead of opening a URL. - A legacy Cloud deployment can omit the descriptor. Paperclip then uses the existing validated confirmation URL. - Direct provider OAuth and self-hosted flows do not receive a handoff and remain unchanged. - Rollback is a normal revert of this commit because the contract is optional and backward compatible. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6, reasoning mode, tool use, code execution, and browser verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Simplify app connections and enable managed Google access (#12728)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps subsystem gives humans and agents governed access to external tools. > - The current connection flow hides Apps behind an experimental gate and repeats setup text. > - Google sharing choices and generic MCP permissions do not use one consistent opening model. > - Self-hosted installs also need a safe default origin for managed OAuth without a manual config file. > - This pull request makes Apps available, simplifies connection setup, and applies one governed permissions model. > - The benefit is a shorter connection flow that works on a clean self-hosted install. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** This improves the Apps connection setup flow, managed Google connection flow, generic MCP connection flow, navigation, and runtime origin discovery. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This changes `ui/`, `server/`, `packages/shared/`, connector documentation, and browser tests. **Current behavior** Apps require an experimental switch. Setup pages repeat titles and explanatory copy. Connection names require manual input. Google credential sharing does not always offer both personal and organization access. Generic MCP providers do not start with the same permission choices. Managed OAuth needs a public URL setting even when the request already has a safe HTTPS origin. **Proposed behavior** Apps are available by default. Setup asks only for required permissions and sharing choices. Paperclip creates conflict-free connection names. Google apps and generic MCP providers use the same human and agent access model. Managed OAuth derives a validated same-origin HTTPS URL when no explicit public URL is set. **Reason and benefit** A clean self-hosted install can connect a managed Google app without hidden setup. Humans can share a service account with their organization. The shorter flow reduces duplicated choices and setup errors. **Breaking changes** The Apps experimental switch is removed. Existing connection APIs remain compatible. New connections can receive a numeric suffix when a name already exists. No duplicate or related public issue was found. ## What Changed - Removed the Apps experimental gate and the breadcrumb that leaves the Apps section. - Simplified all connection setup pages and moved optional provider requirements into one small link. - Added consistent human and agent access choices for Google apps, Zapier, and generic MCP connections. - Added organization sharing to Google Workspace credentials while keeping personal access available. - Generated connection names automatically and resolved name conflicts with numeric suffixes. - Derived a validated public HTTPS origin from the request for config-free managed OAuth. - Updated connector contracts, tests, browser coverage, and authoring documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/generic-mcp-connection.test.ts` (273 passed) - Targeted UI/service regression suite (308 passed) - Six targeted Playwright connection journeys on a fresh onboarding instance (6 passed) - Fresh-install browser proof through Tailscale HTTPS: enrolled with Paperclip Cloud, connected managed Google Drive, and completed a real read operation. - [Exact-head CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/33669760711): all 23 matrix jobs passed, including build, typecheck, server, serialized, canary, and all browser shards. - Greptile 5/5 on `0ae2a859f269984ee950d0af231a5b09a06f3dfd`, with no unresolved review threads. ## Risks Apps are now visible to all operators. The removed experimental flag no longer hides unfinished app definitions. Managed Google availability still depends on the Cloud profile rollout and active instance enrollment. Automatic conflict handling changes only the display name of a newly conflicting connection. > I checked [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md). MCP Tool Gateway and Apps are shipped. Connected Apps is planned, and this change improves the existing shipped connection flow. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, with reasoning, browser control, tool use, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): refine Postman and Shopify setup (#12357)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools. > - Provider catalogs must match each provider's current protocol and credential contract. > - Postman method labels and API-key placement were outdated. > - Shopify now offers a UCP commerce endpoint that needs a managed agent-profile argument. > - This pull request updates both providers and documents the complete connection-authoring workflow. > - The benefit is accurate setup, safer runtime defaults, and a repeatable provider review process. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 10 of 11. It depends on stack 9 and preserves the final catalog work recovered from #11965. Related: #5904 covers Shopify skill routing. This pull request covers the Apps connection contract instead. ## What Changed - Update Postman hosted MCP methods, capability choices, default selection, and bearer-token placement. - Add Shopify UCP commerce and Storefront compatibility methods with public-store prerequisites. - Inject the reviewed Shopify UCP agent profile at runtime and remove that managed field from user input schemas. - Classify Shopify checkout completion and cancellation as destructive actions. - Expand the connection authoring runbook from provider research through verification and pull request handoff. - Add focused shared, server, and UI coverage. - Make the approved-execution waiter phase-aware so slow preparation cannot consume the provider execution timeout and grace period. - Settle legacy pre-execute-on-approve requests and invocations as failed, clear their stale idempotency key, and allow a fresh governed approval instead of leaving work stuck in `executing`. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx -t "Postman|Shopify|normalizeConnectionMethodConfig|classifyRisk"` (16 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/approved-execution-wait.test.ts` (4 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts -t "enforces policy, approvals, retries, rate limits, and company boundaries for connected remote MCP calls"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway-service.test.ts` (21 passed; includes legacy approval settlement and fresh-approval recovery) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Shopify UCP calls now include a Paperclip-managed agent profile that overrides caller input at the same path. - Postman EU credentials now use the hosted MCP server's bearer-token contract instead of the general REST API header. - The catalog generator and checked-in definitions change together to prevent regeneration drift. - Approved execution preparation has an explicit two-minute bound; provider execution retains its own 65-second timeout and persistence grace starting from durable provider start. - Legacy approvals created before execute-on-approve are intentionally terminalized and must be requested again under the current signed contract. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This provider update does not duplicate planned core work. The related open Shopify PR addresses skill routing, not Apps connections. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime exact model ID and context window were not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(apps): add connection intent setup experience (#12347)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The backend now turns agent requests into durable connection intents. > - Operators need a clear path to inspect, configure, and finish those requests. > - The experience must preserve identity, agent access, and interrupted setup state. > - This pull request adds the connection intent setup experience across the app UI. > - The benefit is one guided flow from agent request to governed connection. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 9 of 11. It depends on stack 8 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add connection intent cards and setup flow integration. - Add browse, connection, app detail, and sidebar experience updates. - Preserve exact draft identity and access choices across resume and OAuth recovery. - Add focused UI, architecture, policy, and end-to-end coverage. - Keep transient retained-connection lookup failures retryable instead of misclassifying them as missing targets. - Align the dark-mode E2E contract with the intentionally hidden Gateways and Profiles sidebar tabs. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - Focused UI result: 372 tests passed across 20 files. - AppsConnect regression suite: 80/80 passed, including failed connection and application lookups during retained reconnect. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/AppsSidebar.test.tsx` (1 passed) - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - An interrupted OAuth flow can leave a durable draft that needs resume. - The UI resumes the exact draft and keeps its identity and agent access settings. - Retained reconnect retries refetch connections and applications together to avoid mixing partial snapshots. - Gateways and Profiles remain route-accessible but intentionally absent from the sidebar until their existing ship gate is lifted. - The change does not add a database migration. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(connections): add self-serve intent runtime (#12345)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents need a governed way to request app connections during issue work. > - The catalog now describes the available providers and setup methods. > - A request must become a durable, company-scoped intent before an operator acts on it. > - This pull request adds that intent runtime across server, agent, CLI, and shared contracts. > - The benefit is a safe bridge from agent need to operator-approved setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 7 of 11. It depends on stack 6 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add connection intent types, validation, service logic, and routes. - Add agent runtime tools and CLI support for connection requests. - Add issue-thread interaction support for connection intents. - Add runtime, route, adapter, and contract tests. - Hold the final resolved-continuation row lock through asynchronous adapter preparation until an actual process spawn, so parking or reassignment cannot cross that boundary. - Report Hermes Gateway's first remote run request through the shared dispatch hook so the resolved-intent lock is released at the true dispatch boundary. - Revalidate the addressed user's live non-viewer membership and connection-management authority for every intent mutation, including OAuth completion. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 176 tests passed. - `pnpm build` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts` (32 passed; includes non-process dispatch lock-release coverage) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/connection-intents-service.test.ts -t "addressed-user mutation"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t "binds OAuth callback completion to the initiating board session"` (1 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter test -- src/gateway/server/execute.test.ts` (23 passed; includes dispatch-hook ordering and exactly-once coverage) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter typecheck` ## Risks - A malformed intent could create an unusable operator request. - Validators and company checks reject invalid or cross-company requests. - The final continuation gate holds the issue row lock through adapter preparation until process or remote dispatch; later operator changes use the normal active-run interruption path. - The change does not add a database migration. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(apps): expand the self-serve connection catalog (#12344)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A useful app store needs accurate and selectable provider definitions. > - Local brand assets now cover the expanded provider set. > - Provider methods differ in transport, authentication, ownership, and required scope. > - This pull request expands the catalog and encodes those provider contracts. > - The benefit is a larger self-serve store with explicit setup choices. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 6 of 11. It depends on stack 5 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add and update provider definitions for the self-serve catalog. - Add Google Workspace connection methods and capability profiles. - Add catalog generation, ingestion, URL matching, and contract tests. - Update legacy key tests to use a provider that still uses header credentials. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 164 tests passed. - `pnpm build` ## Risks - An incorrect provider definition can offer the wrong setup method. - Contract tests verify transport, authentication, and provider URL behavior. - The change does not add a database migration. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(apps): add Composio and Gmail connectors (#12342)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - App connections need both direct providers and managed provider hubs. > - The grant layer now defines safe credential ownership. > - Composio needs parent and child connection lifecycle rules, and Gmail needs governed setup. > - This pull request adds both connector families on the grant foundation. > - The benefit is broader app access without weakening credential isolation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 4 of 11. It depends on stack 3 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add Composio parent and child connection support. - Add Gmail connection setup and governance. - Preserve credential paths and remove duplicate binding declarations. - Cascade Composio pause and restore actions to child connections. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 164 tests passed. - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Parent lifecycle changes can affect every Composio child. - The service restores only children whose provider accounts remain active. - Credential binding paths are normalized before secret resolution. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries. > - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use case. > - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation. > - This pull request adds connection grants, identity rules, and their database contract. > - The benefit is durable control over which identity an agent may use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add company and user connection grants. - Add delegated identity and membership rules. - Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts. - Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in the same layer that mounts it. - Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` (5 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Incorrect grant selection could expose the wrong credential scope. - The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential use. - Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(apps): improve gateway and workspace connection UX (#12340)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - App connections must work in both the operator UI and agent tool gateway. > - The first stack layer adds secure remote connections. > - Operators still need clear setup, test, and recovery states. > - This pull request adds the gateway behavior and the workspace connection experience. > - The benefit is a connection flow that is easier to understand and recover. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 2 of 11. It depends on stack 1 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Improve remote tool gateway connection behavior. - Add clearer app setup, test, and recovery states. - Add focused server and UI tests for the new paths. - Keep the diff isolated from later identity and catalog work. - Stabilize DNS-pinned remote HTTP protocol fixtures and the managed-runtime public-origin fixture for this independently tested layer. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` (150 passed) - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Gateway errors now surface through new user-facing states. - A stale connection can require a new setup attempt. - The change does not add a database migration. - The injected HTTP transport and public URL are test-only fixtures; production DNS pinning and runtime behavior are unchanged. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(apps): add secure remote MCP and PostHog setup (#12339)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools. > - Remote MCP setup needs secure endpoint validation and durable credentials. > - PostHog needs both browser sign-in and personal API key setup paths. > - This pull request adds the shared remote MCP foundation and the PostHog definition. > - The benefit is a secure and reusable base for later app connection work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 1 of 11. It replaces the first reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add guarded remote MCP setup and credential handling. - Add PostHog OAuth and API key connection methods. - Add focused server, shared contract, and UI coverage. - Keep the migration replay-safe and idempotent. - Give the late-close security regression the same 10-second CI headroom as the adjacent real-timer handshake test. - Synchronize fake-timer handshake tests at the exact ensure-session boundary so real filesystem setup cannot race the fake deadline. - Drive PTY overflow coverage only after listener registration so scheduling cannot reorder the test fixture. ## Verification - pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts (220 passed; affected cases also passed five focused stress repetitions) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never leaks a sandbox-provided value from a late close rejection into logs or the result"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never promotes a late ensureSession resolution|closes a late-resolving real handle exactly once"` (2 passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Remote endpoint validation can reject configurations that previously passed without checks. - OAuth configuration errors can block setup until the operator corrects the provider settings. - The migration uses guarded statements so repeated execution is safe. - The test-only synchronization changes do not affect runtime behavior; they remove filesystem/fake-clock and listener-registration races observed under parallel CI load. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(apps): support multiple provider connections (#11060)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps subsystem connects company tools through governed provider connections. > - A company can need more than one account for the same provider. > - The current database constraint and Apps flow assume one named connection per company. > - New quarantined actions also need an explicit review decision before activation. > - This pull request supports multiple provider connections and complete action review decisions. > - The benefit is safer access control and a clear multi-account Apps workflow. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #11040 **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change affects the Apps UI, the tool access API, the shared request contract, and the database schema. **Problem or motivation** The connection name constraint prevents a company from keeping more than one connection for a provider. The Apps UI also reuses an existing OAuth connection when a user asks to connect another account. Action review can enable selected entries without recording a decision for every quarantined action. **Proposed solution** Remove the company and connection name uniqueness constraint. Let users open, count, edit, and create multiple provider connections. Require the finish request to cover every quarantined action exactly once before the server activates reviewed entries. **Alternatives considered** The UI could generate unique internal names and keep the database constraint. This would preserve a one-connection assumption in the data model and would make display names part of identity. The server could also infer review decisions from enabled actions. This would not distinguish a reviewed disabled action from an action that the user did not review. **Roadmap alignment** This change extends the completed MCP Tool Gateway and Apps milestone. It also supports the Connected Apps roadmap item. It follows the navigation and connection management work in #11040. ## What Changed - Remove the company-scoped connection name uniqueness index with an ordered and idempotent migration. - Add a reviewed action list to the finish-app contract and reject incomplete or duplicate review decisions. - Activate reviewed entries and keep unreviewed quarantined entries blocked. - Enable a completed connection and preserve the company and connection scope in all updates. - Show provider connection counts and open the provider setup page from Browse. - Let users edit existing connections or connect another account without reusing an active OAuth connection. - Update focused server and UI coverage for multiple connections and action review. ## Verification - Ran the focused Apps UI suite. All 116 tests passed in 11 files. - Ran the focused server and CLI suite. All 276 tests passed in 3 files. - Ran `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`. The migration safety check passed. - Ran `pnpm -r typecheck`. All projects passed. - Ran `pnpm build`. All projects built successfully. - Ran `pnpm test:run`. It passed 3,735 tests and skipped 4 tests. One worktree-safety assertion failed because the execution workspace reloads its worktree marker. The same test passed with an isolated non-worktree marker. - Ran `pnpm check:token-gates`. It reports 12 existing violations in the unchanged `PaperclipOrbit3D.tsx` file from the target branch. - Started the six affected Playwright specifications. Chromium could not start because the host does not provide `libatk-1.0.so.0`. The GitHub e2e jobs will verify these specifications. - GitHub Actions passed every final-head CI gate, including all three e2e shards and the aggregate `e2e` and `verify` jobs. - Greptile reviewed final commit `9af9200426` at 5/5 with zero review threads. ## Risks - Removing the name uniqueness index permits duplicate display names. Stable connection IDs and UIDs remain unique within a company. - The finish-app endpoint accepts the new review field as optional for backward compatibility. When clients send it, the server requires a complete decision for all quarantined actions. - Multiple OAuth connections depend on the explicit new-connection route flag. Focused tests cover active and draft connection reuse. - The migration is ordered after migration 0210. Its `DROP INDEX IF EXISTS` statement is safe to repeat. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with the `gpt-5.6-sol` model assisted this change. The agent used repository tools, code execution, test execution, and agentic reasoning. The Codex runtime manages the context window. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): connect Notion through MCP OAuth (#11009)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give agents governed access to external tools. > - The Apps gallery lists Notion, but the server required manually configured OAuth credentials. > - Notion's hosted MCP server supports OAuth discovery and dynamic client registration. > - Notion also requires HTTPS or a loopback HTTP redirect URI. > - This pull request adds a direct Notion MCP OAuth path with PKCE and reusable dynamic clients. > - It also adds the current Apps UI states for connect and reauthorization. > - The benefit is a secure Notion connection with no manual client credential setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Apps gallery, Apps connect route, OAuth token lifecycle, and managed MCP gateway. **Subsystem affected** `server/`, `packages/shared/`, `scripts/`, and `ui/`. **Current behavior** The Notion gallery cards are disabled. The server uses the classic Notion OAuth endpoints and requires operator-supplied client credentials. It does not register an OAuth client from provider metadata. Concurrent refreshes can also replay a rotating refresh token. **Proposed behavior** Enable the Notion Apps flow. Discover OAuth metadata from `https://mcp.notion.com/mcp`. Register and reuse a public RFC 7591 client with PKCE. Require HTTPS or loopback HTTP callbacks. Serialize refreshes, store each rotated refresh token before the new access token can be used, and show a reconnect state for `invalid_grant`. **Reason and benefit** Operators can connect the built-in Notion MCP app without creating or copying OAuth credentials. Paperclip keeps dynamic clients and rotating tokens in the company secret store. **Breaking changes** None. Explicit environment client credentials still take priority. Existing Slack and Linear OAuth endpoint hints remain unchanged. Other OAuth apps remain disabled unless they are allowlisted. **Additional context** PR #10910 is a related, broader Connections v3 wizard replacement. This PR is the focused current Apps flow. The MCP Tool Gateway and Connected Apps items in `ROADMAP.md` cover this planned capability. ## What Changed - Classify all 20 reviewed Notion MCP tools with provider-scoped read and write defaults. - Require approval for selected Notion mutations, including move, duplicate, and convert actions that generic verb matching missed. - Preserve company-scoped connection and catalog resolution for Notion profiles and policies. - Add RFC 7591 dynamic client registration with `token_endpoint_auth_method=none` and mandatory PKCE. - Store the dynamic client ID on the connection and store any returned client secret in the company secret store. - Reuse the registered client for later connects and keep explicit environment credentials as the first choice. - Discover protected-resource and authorization-server metadata from the Notion MCP endpoint. - Add `redirectConstraints: "https-or-loopback-http"` to the generated Notion app definition and shared contract. - Reject non-loopback plain HTTP callbacks before network access with a TLS setup error. - Serialize client registration and token refresh operations within the server process. - Store a rotated refresh token before publishing the refreshed access token. - Treat `invalid_grant` as terminal and move the connection to a clear reauthorization state. - Add focused coverage for registration reuse, callback constraints, refresh rotation, and terminal grants. - Enable the Notion Apps route and add connect, redirect, success, error, and reconnect UI states. - Keep non-allowlisted OAuth apps blocked and cover the UI policy with regression tests. ## Verification - The focused Notion policy integration test passed with embedded PostgreSQL. - The focused 20-tool classification test passed. - The server typecheck passed on the governance head. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed on the rebased head. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` passed after the security follow-up. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t \u0027DCR|refresh tokens|invalid_grant|abandoned lease\u0027` passed 10 focused security tests. - `pnpm build` passed on the rebased head. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t 'OAuth|oauth'` passed 14 tests. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts` passed 5 tests. - The complete server group passed 3,686 tests with 4 skipped. - The complete UI group passed 3,656 tests. - The full local runner found one environment-only CLI failure because this agent runtime injects static AWS credentials into a test that expects `AWS_PROFILE` only. `env -u AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID -u AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` passed all 8 tests. - The prior UI verification passed 55 focused tests, `pnpm check:token-gates`, the Storybook build, and review of six 1440 x 1000 screenshots. - OAuth request sequence: protected-resource metadata `GET https://mcp.notion.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp`; authorization metadata `GET https://mcp.notion.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server`; dynamic registration `POST https://mcp.notion.com/register`; authorization `GET https://mcp.notion.com/authorize`; token exchange and refresh `POST https://mcp.notion.com/token`; MCP traffic `POST https://mcp.notion.com/mcp`. - The live metadata and registration probe confirmed that Notion accepts HTTPS and loopback HTTP redirects. It rejects a plain HTTP private hostname. - A later QA task owns the full browser consent and managed gateway tool-list dry run against a configured HTTPS deployment. ## Risks - Notion can add tools. Unrecognized names use the generic classifier, and new or changed risky tools stay quarantined after connection activation. - A deployment that uses a private non-loopback hostname must configure HTTPS before it can connect Notion. - Dynamic registration creates a provider-side client. Paperclip reuses it because registration does not provide a standard delete operation. - Refresh coordination uses a database CAS lease across service instances. An unclean crash leaves an uncertain lease and requires reconnect instead of risking refresh-token replay. - The current Apps surface overlaps with PR #10910. Merge order can require a small conflict resolution if that PR lands first. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex on a GPT-5 runtime. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed. The runtime used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and network tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(connections): add AppDefinition Wave 1 catalog (#9981)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Connections is the subsystem that defines which external apps and MCP-style integrations operators can browse, configure, and run > - The v3 schema core in #9958 added stable connection identities, auth metadata, and grant-aware contracts, but the app catalog still used the older gallery shape > - The product needs a richer, typed AppDefinition catalog so browsing and setup can render provider-specific auth and configuration requirements consistently > - This pull request moves the Wave 1 app catalog onto generated AppDefinition data and carries that shape through shared types, server lookup paths, and app connection UI > - The benefit is that follow-up runtime and wizard work can build against one catalog contract instead of local-only mock/gallery data ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #9958. No public GitHub issue exists for this branch. This is the catalog layer for the Connections v3 stack after the schema-core foundation in #9958. ## What Changed - Adds generated AppDefinition data for the Wave 1 catalog and ingestion reporting. - Replaces the legacy tool app gallery exports with AppDefinition-centered shared contracts, validators, and tests. - Updates server tool-access lookup behavior to use the AppDefinition catalog. - Updates app connection UI surfaces and tests to consume AppDefinition-backed catalog data. - Documents the catalog ingestion workflow in the connector playbook. ## Verification - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts packages/shared/src/app-definitions-url.test.ts ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` ## Risks - Medium: this changes the catalog contract used by shared, server, and UI app connection surfaces. - Catalog data quality matters because generated definitions now drive browse/setup display. - Follow-up runtime and wizard PRs must rebase on this branch or on master after this lands. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(mcp) [split 7/8]: activate Apps and gateway UI (#9562)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 7/8 and focuses on Apps/Gateways UI and feature-flagged activation > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: The standalone UI foundation needs feature-flagged routes, navigation, app detail flows, gateways, Storybook scenarios, and QA configuration. - Proposed solution: Adds Apps/Gateways pages and components, navigation/route activation, remaining page integrations, Storybook stories, and QA Vite configuration. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/06-ui-tools-foundation`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: UXDesigner sanity pass on Apps/Gateways flows and flag-off behavior; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds Apps/Gateways pages and components, navigation/route activation, remaining page integrations, Storybook stories, and QA Vite configuration. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates clean - Focused UI Vitest run with `NODE_ENV=test` — 17 files, 147 tests passed ## Risks - Navigation or flag regressions could expose incomplete experiences; activation remains controlled by existing experimental settings. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5.4`; runtime-managed context window; medium reasoning with repository, shell, Git, GitHub CLI, and code-execution tools enabled. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] Internal references are omitted except the execution-plan link explicitly required for this coordinated split stack - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge ## Stack Coordination - Internal execution plan: [PAP-13874](/PAP/issues/PAP-13874#document-plan) - Parity reference: #9534 - Stack: #9556 → #9557 → #9558 → #9559 → #9560 → #9561 → #9562 → #9563 - Merge bottom-up only after full-stack review and an empty parity diff at #9563. ## UI Evidence QA captured these from the live Garden MCP split stack at 1440px and verified clean rendering: --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
