feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer work. > - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion, workspace, and review policy. > - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between agents. > - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access, budgets, and completion gates. > - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and read-only case pages. > - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when work can run and finish. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its own running task. **Proposed solution** Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase, retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`, `update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to `done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted. **Alternatives considered** Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph, or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays removed. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review, budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain authoritative. Related work: [ordinary handoff wake recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release barrier. ## What Changed - Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations. - Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each returning agent's own session and the task's workspace. - Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership, including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting. - Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside retained task/project permissions. - Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts, and current source authorization on every page. - Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls, compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in Audit. - Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile. - Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task threads. - Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount behavior. ## Verification The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614) passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549), with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a required branch check. No check result was overridden. Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008 API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit. On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests** executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files: - 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout. - 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure, a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a fresh worker after the process group stops. - 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts. - 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests. - 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool integration tests. - 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict protocol-contract tests. The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master `9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking; unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior. These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the browser-only retry did not rerun these suites. The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects. The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`. The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged. The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10 tests. The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the 194 critical tests or as live provider proof. All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes. Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review later identified unusable document references with generic API tools disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated HTTP tests address that finding. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped, including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard also passed after the fixture repair. A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6 USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on `6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable. Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48 identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json). This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix, installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout. Preserved CI failures and retries: - On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that shard; no source or timeout changed. - On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19 UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all 32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head, `7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries. - On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease. Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all 41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries. - On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard passed. - On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit. Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed. The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify the original blocking transaction. ## Risks - Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently of scratch setup. - Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and uncertain provider termination. - Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions. This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing task cannot preserve that boundary. - Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill. Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff. - Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access. - Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page. Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old snapshot. - Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy review or approval gates. - This is a large, cross-cutting PR. The maintainer requested one PR for the whole feature; the commits separate data, runtime, UI, and qualification work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use, code execution, and delegated code review. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were not exposed in the session. Live fixture agents used the explicitly configured provider model recorded in their test evidence. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Commentary to Audit with filters and shareable messages (#16884)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents can submit suggestions and complaints while they work. > - Operators currently need database access to read those messages. > - That makes it hard to find feedback from one agent or share a specific message. > - This pull request adds a standard Commentary tab in Audit. > - Operators can filter messages, browse 50 at a time, and share links to full message dialogs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15367, which added feedback storage and agent submission. The duplicate search found no open PR for a commentary reader. **Subsystem affected** Server, shared API contracts, and the board UI. **Problem or motivation** Agent suggestions and complaints are stored but have no board reader. Operators must query the database to inspect feedback. **Proposed solution** Add Commentary to Audit without an experimental toggle. Show previews, agent and message-type filters, text search, and 50-message pages. Opening a row updates the URL. A copied URL opens the full message with its agent, task, and run context. **Alternatives considered** Direct database queries remain useful for operators, but do not provide a normal product workflow. An experimental setting would add setup to a read-only audit page. **Roadmap alignment** This completes the operator view for the existing feedback feature. It supports human oversight and does not change agent execution or task ownership. ## What Changed - Add company-scoped, board-only list and detail endpoints with audit permission and source-task privacy checks. - Return bounded previews and counts. Fetch full bodies only when a message opens. - Add the Commentary tab, search, filters, 50-row pagination, and URL-based selection. Audit tab destinations work in both layouts, with a classic sidebar entry for Commentary. - Add production Storybook examples for populated, filtered, linked, long, paginated, empty, loading, failed, denied, mobile, and light states. - Update API documentation and the feature and agent access maps. ## Verification - Final head `abc4a251c14cfbfec007542214beec528f2b18bf`: 55 checks pass; two conditional Storybook checks are skipped. The PR workflow is successful. Greptile is 5/5 with all findings resolved. - Focused database, HTTP, submission, OpenAPI, and UI regression tests cover company isolation, task privacy, filter bounds, 50-row pagination, and copied message links. - Browser Storybook journeys cover row opening, direct links, combined filters, search, and pagination. Storybook uses synthetic API fixtures; database authorization is tested separately. - Token gates, feature maps, and Storybook catalog validation pass. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm build-storybook` pass on the rebased branch. All 80 focused tests and all 37 Audit tests pass, including the real App route table in both layouts, task grant/revocation through HTTP, deleted-task privacy, and URL UI regressions. The full suite passes in the parallel PR CI matrix. The local serial full-suite run was stopped before completion after checking the recorded 94-minute serial duration. Local focused tests, workspace typecheck, production build, and final server/UI checks pass. - The linked-message Storybook test initially asserted against the loading dialog. It now waits for the message body; both direct-link and row-open journeys pass. - Native and legacy deleted-task privacy regressions failed before the fix and pass afterward. The reader checks the run task binding after the task foreign key clears. - A rapid search-then-agent-filter browser regression reproduced the search overwriting the selected agent. The pending search now restarts when URL filters change. The same browser test passes with both filters applied. - CI found two existing AuditHub assertions that still expected five tabs. They now assert the six-tab model and selected-company Commentary rendering. All 37 Audit tests pass. All other test and build jobs passed before this test-only correction. - The [agent-chat attachment browser test](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39307881171/job/118250189664) timed out waiting for an attachment preview. The [same shard passed on the prior head](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39306658703/job/118245498343) with identical application code; the intervening change only updates AuditHub unit tests. The single retry passed on the same head. The precise cause of the earlier failure remains unconfirmed. ## Risks - Commentary may contain sensitive task context. The reader requires board access and audit permission, and filters source-task visibility before returning previews, counts, or full bodies. - Text search scans stored message bodies. Pages are bounded and full bodies are fetched on demand. - Offset pagination can shift if new messages arrive while paging. Ordering uses timestamp and ID for stable ties. - No database migration or agent submission behavior changes are required. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, browser interaction, and code execution. The exact backend model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): load recent tasks with bounded summaries (#16851)
Replace passive recent-task detail reads with bounded, authorized summaries. Keep account isolation, stored history, task actions, and live recovery behavior. Overlap access checks with shell settings and avoid duplicate session and health reads on the first healthy socket opening. Retain domain reconciliation. Add focused coverage and local performance evidence. Isolate the existing cache capacity test from entry expiry on slow CI runners. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Remove the Pipelines experiment and preserve its data (#16834)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Pipelines was an unused experiment with its own UI, API, CLI, and automation. > - Keeping it leaves unsupported product surfaces and extra task-detail queries. > - Removing the experiment must preserve data that users already saved. > - This pull request removes the feature and keeps its database schema and migration history. > - Cases and Routines remain available as separate features. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Remove the unused Pipelines experiment across the application. **Current behavior** The experiment includes pipeline boards, stage settings, case automation, review queues, learnings, permissions, and CLI commands. Task detail also queries pipeline links. **Proposed behavior** Remove all these product surfaces and their implementation. Preserve existing tables, records, and documents. Ignore the retired boolean in older managed configurations so upgrades still start. **Breaking changes** Pipeline URLs, API endpoints, CLI commands, and `pipelines:write` are removed. Task detail no longer includes the old `linkedCases` field. The independent Cases API remains available. No database migration or cleanup is included. Related feature work: #7907, #9110, #10905, #11375, #13004, #14671, #16133. Related issues: #9663, #10310, #10312. This removal supersedes the feature; it does not implement those pending enhancements or delete their saved data. ## What Changed - Remove Pipeline UI pages, navigation, gates, clients, query keys, helpers, and unused design tokens. - Remove Pipeline REST routes, services, automation dispatch, task-detail queries, and OpenAPI discovery. - Remove the CLI commands, shared contracts, experimental flag, catalog entry, and permission defaults. - Remove feature-specific tests, tutorials, smoke scripts, maps, and Storybook examples. - Preserve database schema, migration history, and the reserved document key used by old records. - Keep Cases routes independent and cover obsolete stored and managed settings. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm build` and `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed: targeted settings, managed configuration, sidebar, settings UI, routing, and feature-catalog tests. A first sidebar run caught a shared Workspaces icon import; the import was restored and the sidebar rerun passed. - Passed: 40 tests covering Cases routes, OpenAPI discovery, retained Pipeline table constraints, and schema snapshot drift. - Passed: token gates, map validation, generated API metadata check, Storybook catalog validation, and 28 map/catalog tests. - Passed: isolated local browser verification of navigation and Experimental settings with Pipelines absent; Cases and Routines still open normally. Live GET/POST requests to retired Pipeline endpoints return 404, and the retired setting is absent. CLI help has no Pipeline commands. - Passed: 22 access-service and agent-default-grant tests after restoring unrelated permission assertions flagged in review. - Local full run: `pnpm test:run` reported one failure in the unchanged workspace-runtime port-allocation test. That test passed in an isolated rerun. The long local run was stopped after full CI passed; it is not reported as a complete local pass. - Passed: all 56 checks on `def9181f3a4491d95fca1d38e9739f5b821aae3e` (2 conditional checks skipped), including build, typecheck, test shards, and browser suites. Eleven interrupted CI jobs reported “The operation was canceled”; their one-time retry passed. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39255211006). - Greptile: 5/5 on the final commit, with the only review finding fixed and resolved. - Sandbox socket restrictions affected the first build/API test attempts. The same commands ran with local sockets available. ## Risks - Existing Pipeline clients must stop using the removed endpoints and commands. - Existing data remains in the database and backups, but the removed UI no longer displays it. - Historical boolean `enablePipelines` values are ignored. They cannot restore the feature. - Cases and Routines must retain their separate behavior. Targeted route tests cover this boundary. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with repository inspection, editing, shell execution, and browser verification. The exact deployed model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): expose settled holds and their preserved decisions (#16169)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task recovery preserves work when execution or tool outcomes are uncertain. > - Automatic recovery can settle its record while keeping replay blocked. > - The recovery-actions API omitted those records unless they held workspace files. > - Operators and agent tools could therefore see an empty recovery history for a task that still had an execution hold. > - This pull request lists those holds and shows their matching decision in the existing stopped-run notice. > - Existing stop verification, continuation, and file repair gates remain in force. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A cancelled or failed task can retain a settled recovery record with `automaticRecovery.replay: blocked`. The task remains held, but the recovery-actions API returns no action. The board notice also lacks that record's decision. **Expected behavior** List settled execution holds that still block replay. Let an authorized board user inspect the current action and run in Recovery details. Preserve the existing guarded continuation and required-file repair paths. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Stop a run whose outcome requires inspection. 2. Let automatic recovery settle its record with replay blocked. 3. Read the task's recovery actions and open its stopped-run notice. 4. Before this change, the action list is empty unless workspace recovery is required. **Paperclip version or commit** This PR includes current master through `66424362a85`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated and local deployments with persisted execution recovery holds. The original API correction and route regression are by Tao Xie (@TaoXieSZ). This update preserves those commits and adds the board inspection path, current documentation, and regression coverage. Related: #14840 describes controller lease loss. This change exposes recovery records; it does not change controller lease renewal. ## What Changed - Include settled execution reconciliation holds with replay blocked in the company-scoped recovery-actions response. - Read the matching action from the existing stopped-run notice. Show its decision under Recovery details, including when active recovery is empty. - Reject mismatched historical records in the notice. Bind history to the current action/run and refresh visible decisions every five seconds. Keep history read errors visible beside the current guidance. - Preserve existing run inspection, new-message continuation, and required-file repair controls. No new reconciliation form is added. - Update the execution documentation and both recovery capability maps. ## Verification - Recovery route suite with real embedded PostgreSQL: 80 passed, none skipped. - Notice and retry-client suites: 36 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed. This checks structure only. - `git diff --check`: passed. - Full `pnpm test:run` was started. It is not yet a full local pass. Initial database tests were affected by missing packaged macOS library aliases; the aliases were restored in this worktree's dependencies, and the complete recovery route suite then passed. - All CI checks passed on `09e4461e4d3a0960a4dc8bc270a2a10c628bf524`, including the full test matrix, typecheck, build and browser checks. Optional Storybook jobs were skipped. - Apex: 5/5 on the same head. Both review threads are resolved; the reviewer confirmed the existing guarded continuation design. ## Risks - The API response now includes settled records that still block replay. Consumers must distinguish a settled record from permission to continue. - Recovery history is supplemental. A failed history read keeps the current blocker and guidance visible. - The UI binds the decision to both the current action and run. It does not certify tool outcomes or grant execution authority. - No schema, dependency, telemetry, or runtime admission changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution, assisted with the board inspection and verification follow-up. The exact serving snapshot ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. The original API work is retained from Tao Xie's contribution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full-suite limits above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): make pull request review waits visible (#15375)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people supervise agent work and review its outputs. > - A task can wait for a human to review a pull request while an agent schedules checks. > - The PR work product and detected external links use separate display paths. > - A private PR can disappear from the useful sidebar view when its provider lookup fails. > - The monitor countdown says when the next check runs but omits the saved review request. > - This change shows the saved PR and requested review in the task's existing surfaces. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task kept checking whether a private GitHub PR had merged. Its work product requested board review, but the Properties sidebar used detected external objects instead. The PR URL was stored only in metadata, which the PR refresh path did not read. The composer showed a generic monitor countdown with no PR link or review action. **Expected behavior** Show saved PR links even if provider access fails. During a GitHub monitor wait, make outstanding review requests visible with the next check time and a status-check action. Stop requesting review when a PR merges or closes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Register a PR work product with `reviewState: needs_board_review` and its URL in `metadata.url`. 2. Schedule an external-service monitor for GitHub. 3. Open the task with external-object lookup unavailable or unable to access the private repository. 4. Inspect Properties and the composer wait strip. Related work: #14469 added rich artifact cards. #8759 addresses attention on monitored task blockers. This change uses the existing work products and monitor action; it adds no blocker or approval mechanism. ## What Changed - Show saved PRs in Properties, including metadata-only links, independent of external-object availability. - Deduplicate equivalent GitHub PR URLs while preserving the saved navigation link, and put explicit review requests first. - Keep provider status and freshness on the combined PR row; keep private PR links usable when lookup fails. - Show the saved PR review request above the composer and in the existing monitor banner during a GitHub monitor wait. - Label the existing monitor action `Check status` and show check failures inline. - Suppress review prompts for merged, closed, or archived PRs even if their review flag is stale. - Refresh PR metadata using `metadata.url` and the existing `repository` alias. - Share saved work-product reads across the thread, Properties, and Artifacts. Refresh GitHub in a separate query and enrich only matching PR versions. - Start a fresh saved-row request on live invalidation so late provider responses cannot hide new artifacts or changed review requests. - Cover stalled GitHub lookups in both panels so refresh latency cannot hide saved work. - Scope monitor-check mutation state to the task so failures and late responses do not leak across navigation. - Refresh GitHub status when the displayed run finishes, including when saved PR rows have not changed. - Clarify that PR review and external release handoffs need a saved human-input interaction with an agent assigned for continuation; a flag, monitor, or handoff comment alone does not create that card. ## Verification - 386 tests pass across eleven affected UI and server suites on `184c7d8746`. Regressions cover saved links, provider status, cold-cache loading, panel reopening, monitor errors during navigation, and live updates during provider refresh. - Three live-update regressions and two run-completion regressions fail before their fixes and pass afterward. These tests use the real API client's GET coalescing and abort handling. - Full repository typecheck and build passed on the merged parent `1a49112dd2`. The latest UI changes pass UI typecheck and token gates; CI also verifies the latest build. Capability contract/inventory checks pass. - Storybook build and browser checks passed before the query race fix. Browser checks cover desktop and 390px mobile review waits, plus video, mixed-file, and empty artifact galleries after background refresh. - The earlier full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped under disk pressure. It reported failures outside the changed suites; an isolated skill-cache run reproduced three existing macOS permission failures. The full local suite was not rerun for this follow-up. - Latest-head CI passes on `184c7d8746`, including the browser shards and canary dry run. Apex is 5/5 with no actionable findings and no unresolved threads. All eight reported findings are addressed. ## Risks - This uses saved PR review state. When GitHub access fails, the saved state can remain stale until the agent updates it. The link remains visible and the status check remains available. - `Check status` wakes the existing monitor owner. It does not merge a PR, accept an approval, or mark the task done. - No schema, permissions, or scheduler behavior changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code editing, and test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — 277 affected tests - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): sync and group accounts managed by aggregators (#15254)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Aggregator gateways can expose accounts that users already connected upstream. > - The Apps catalog did not show those accounts or their current provider status. > - Separate cards and setup tasks also made account ownership unclear. > - This pull request discovers upstream accounts and groups them under one app card. > - Users can find connected apps while each provider keeps control of its accounts. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Connections across the database, shared contracts, server, and board UI. **Problem or motivation** Users cannot see which apps are connected through a saved aggregator gateway. Native and upstream accounts need one app card. Discovery must preserve company, user, gateway, and credential boundaries. **Proposed solution** Sync account metadata from Composio, Arcade, and supported Executor gateways. Keep upstream account management in each provider. Use source chips and search to browse the catalog. Preserve native setup and the gateway's existing access policy. **Alternatives considered** Creating a local executable connection for each upstream account would duplicate authorization state. Using an agent task for routine Composio setup would add an unnecessary step. The board now calls the saved gateway directly for that setup. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Connected Apps and MCP Tool Gateway features in ROADMAP.md. The duplicate search found no open PR for managed account discovery. Related work: Refs #13755, Refs #13941, Refs #14725, Refs #13855. Open PR #12906 covers adjacent toolkit routing work. ## What Changed - Add provider-neutral discovery, sync, and refresh APIs. Preserve the Composio API paths. - Cache observations by company, saved gateway, viewing user, and credential version. Retain stale observations after failed or incomplete scans. - Add optional Arcade account sync credentials in the vault. Discover Executor accounts through its supported inventory interface. - Group native and upstream accounts in one app card. Imported account menus open their provider. Gateway menus own refresh and sync setup. - Add Paperclip, Composio, Arcade, Installed, and All chips. Show 50 catalog entries per page. Keep connected accounts above discovery. Keep explicit provider searches scoped. - Simplify Composio app setup and refresh its connected app list on the gateway Permissions page. - Add a compact agent access card and task creation defaults for connection setup. Preserve explicit blocks and approval policies. - Add two replay-safe migrations, service and UI tests, Storybook journeys, and acceptance stories. ## Verification - Passed the repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and migration ordering check. - Passed the focused provider adapter, connection interaction, and catalog tests after rebasing onto master. - Passed all nine database sync and migration replay tests using a disposable database on the test-drive PostgreSQL cluster. Removed that database after the run. - Verified Arcade cursor pagination against its official Go SDK and passed all eight adapter tests, including short and incomplete pages. - Passed all 45 interaction tests after making the exact requested tools and their Allowed/Ask first permissions visible before granting access. Verified the compact card in Storybook. - Passed the complete UI suite on the final code: 683 files and 7,432 tests, including the corrected Composio destination assertions. Passed 130 focused tests for the UUID, management-link, and health-status corrections. - Passed 22 Composio setup/sync tests, 23 connection-intent service tests, and the connection migration test in separate disposable databases. Database startup alone was substituted; the suites exercised their real SQL and services. - Passed all 10 OpenAPI route checks and the full-stack connection-intent browser test, including scoped consent, agent continuation, and task completion. - The local full runner encountered embedded PostgreSQL startup failures on this loaded macOS host. The earlier in-flight run also held the pre-fix Arcade transform; a fresh run of the final provider suite passes. The final-head CI is queued during GitHub’s active Actions incident: https://www.githubstatus.com/. The previous run also lost several runners simultaneously; its real catalog assertion failures are fixed and the fresh complete UI suite passes. - Tested the real test-drive server in the embedded browser with a live Composio gateway. Detected Airtable and Circleback. Verified refresh progress, account rows, source chips, search scope, and 50-entry pagination. - Arcade and Executor coverage uses provider fixtures. Live credentials were unavailable. - Storybook builds successfully and includes grouped native/provider accounts, stale and unavailable discovery, optional Arcade setup, and mobile states. The acceptance document records the simulated and live coverage separately. - Greptile reviewed final commit `217b024c27b5933e773ce9419c4e92b1032042c6` at 5/5. All six review threads are resolved, security scans pass, and the PR has no merge conflicts. The outstanding remote checks are `ci / Select trusted runner` and `review`, queued by GitHub. They need to complete before merge. ## Risks - Provider response changes can break inventory discovery. Failed scans retain observations and show stale status. - Composio scans only the supported catalog and can take time. Large inventories run in the background with progress and a bounded lease. - Arcade requires a project API key and user ID when the gateway cannot supply them. This key is used only for discovery. - Executor discovery depends on the server's exposed inventory tools. Unsupported servers report unavailable discovery. - Cached account rows do not grant access or create executable connections. Gateway policies still govern tool use. Account deletion and per-app authorization remain upstream. - The migrations add tables and one nullable column. Replay preserves existing rows and company-scoped foreign keys. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The session does not expose a more specific serving model ID or context limit. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: Chat leads the left nav, agent work beside chats, and a Combined Inbox + Task List flag (#15100)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The left nav is the main way people move between tasks, the inbox, and Agent Chat > - The nav has separate Inbox and Tasks rows that show overlapping work, and Chat is one row among many > - The side panel beside a chat shows the conversation's own artifacts, not the work the agent did > - People want Chat to be easy to find, and they want one place for their task views > - This pull request moves Chat to the top of Work, shows the agent's tasks and artifacts beside each chat, and adds an experimental flag that folds Inbox into Tasks > - The benefit is a shorter nav and a chat view that shows what the agent is working on. Both changes stay off until an operator enables them ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14706 (the secondary Agent Chat navigation this change builds on) Refs #14848 (reopen the last visited agent chat) **Subsystem affected** UI navigation (left nav, mobile tab bar), Agent Chat side panel, task list and inbox, and the company artifacts API. **Problem or motivation** Inbox and Tasks are two nav rows for overlapping work. Chat sits in the top group with no clear home. The chat rail lists only agents you already talked to, so you cannot see your other teammates there. The side panel beside a chat shows only the conversation's own artifacts. It does not show the tasks and files the agent made. **Proposed solution** With Agent Chat on, Chat leads the Work section and the rail lists every eligible agent. The chat side panel opens on the agent's tasks as cards, and the agent's artifacts are available from +. A new experimental flag, Combined Inbox + Task List, makes Inbox a set of views inside Tasks. **Alternatives considered** Rebuilding the inbox inside the task list. Instead, `/issues` hosts the existing Inbox component for inbox views and the existing task list for status views, so all inbox behaviour stays the same. **Roadmap alignment** Agent Chat (ROADMAP.md, "Agent Chat (including CEO Chat)"). All changes are behind experimental flags that are off by default. ## What Changed - **Agent Chat nav (streamlined shell):** Chat is the first row of Work, not a top-group row. Workspaces leaves the nav while Agent Chat is on. The mobile tab bar is Home · Chat · + · Tasks · Agents. The legacy shell keeps master's top-group Chat row. - **Chat rail:** `AgentConversationsSidebar` lists every eligible agent. The open chat is first, then conversations by recent activity, then the rest of the roster alphabetically. Terminated agents and agents you left are omitted unless you have history with them. The picker still marks only real conversations as "Open chat". - **Chat side panel:** a new default Tasks tab shows one card per task the agent created, was assigned, commented on, or acted on, newest first. It has the task list's filter popover and a sort control. **+ → Artifacts** shows the agent's artifacts as cards. Cards open in a new tab. Agent Chat off keeps the old Artifacts tab. - **Artifacts API:** `GET /api/companies/:companyId/artifacts` accepts `agentId`. The filter applies to documents, work products, and attachments by the agent each result is attributed to. The shared validator and the UI client carry the new parameter, and the OpenAPI entry picks it up from the shared schema. - **Combined Inbox + Task List flag (`enableCombinedInboxTasks`, off by default):** new card in Settings > Experimental. The Inbox row goes away and its badge moves to Tasks. A Views menu on `/issues` covers Mine, Unread, Blocked, Recent, Everything, All, Active, Backlog, and Done. Bare `/issues` opens the last-used view (default Mine). Links that carry `assignee`, `workspace`, `participantAgentId`, or `q` open All so the filter is kept. `/inbox/*` and `/issues/{all,active,backlog,done,recent}` redirect to the matching view. `/inbox/requests` stays its own page. - **Task detail breadcrumb:** the view key now decides the source, so quick-archive still works after a reload from an inbox view. - **Docs:** `doc/PRODUCT.md` and `doc/SPEC.md` describe the chat rail, the chat side panel, and the new flag. ## Verification - `cd ui && npx vitest run --no-file-parallelism src/components/chat src/components/task-side-panel/TaskSidePanel.test.tsx src/components/AgentConversationsSidebar.test.tsx src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx src/components/SidebarCompanyMenu.test.tsx src/components/Layout.test.tsx src/pages/AgentChats.test.tsx src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx src/lib/task-views.test.ts src/lib/issueDetailBreadcrumb.test.ts src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx src/pages/Issues.test.tsx src/App.test.tsx src/App.activity-routing.test.tsx src/components/MobileBottomNav.test.tsx src/components/CommandPalette.test.tsx`: 20 files, 356 tests pass. - `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/company-artifacts-service.test.ts`: 13/13 pass, including the new agent-filter test across all three artifact sources. - The new rail test fails against the unmodified rail. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: all gates clean. - Manual: enable Agent Chat in Settings > Experimental. Open Chat. The rail lists all agents. Open a chat. The side panel shows the agent's tasks. Use **+ → Artifacts** to see the agent's artifacts. Then enable Combined Inbox + Task List. The Inbox row goes away, and Tasks shows a Views menu. - Snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated. See `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`, "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". ## Risks - With both flags off, the app behaves like master. The only exception is the API: it accepts a new optional query parameter. - With Agent Chat on, the rail can list many agents in a large company. It uses the agent list the app already loads, and search filters it. - The Tasks panel reads at most 200 recently updated tasks per agent and says so when it reaches the limit. Add GitHub-synced skill sources (#14713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Company skills supply instructions and files to those agents. > - GitHub imports already exist, but users cannot manage repositories as skill sources. > - Repository refresh also needs caller-authorized access and complete local packages. > - This pull request adds Sources inside Skills and reuses GitHub connections from Apps. > - Installed snapshots let agents use skills without fetching GitHub during a run. > - Manual refresh preserves skill identity and leaves failed imports on their last good version. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: skills UI, server, database, shared contracts, and runtime materialization. **Problem or motivation** Users keep skills in GitHub repositories. They need a clear way to select, import, and refresh those skills. Existing imports do not expose repository management or consistently preserve supporting files. **Proposed solution** Add company-scoped skill sources. Browse repositories from all accessible GitHub connections, or paste a public repository or branch URL. Select whole skill packages, inspect included files and reference warnings, and install complete, immutable snapshots. Refresh each source manually. **Alternatives considered** Project repository settings hide the workflow from Skills. A second GitHub connector would duplicate credentials and grants. Upstream editing and PR creation are separate work. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the Skills Manager direction in ROADMAP.md. The maintainer requested this scope and reviewed the component and full-app journey stories before implementation. Related reports: Refs #10285, Refs #10949, Refs #13464. Related work: #14356, #13656, #9268. ## What Changed - Add source and entry records, an idempotent migration, company-scoped APIs, and legacy GitHub import adoption. - Reuse current caller grants and credential refresh. Combine and deduplicate repository inventories across accessible connections. Pasted public URLs also prefer the active user’s authorized connections. Tokens stay in the Git child environment, never argv or disk. - Fetch a shallow Git snapshot at one immutable commit. Scan the full local tree, including hidden and nested folders. Read Git objects without checkout or archive transformations and enforce nested package boundaries. - Bound Git downloads to 128 MiB and three minutes. Cancel active process groups and remove incomplete downloads. Preserve cancellation and deadlines while progress drains; close stalled HTTP progress streams after 30 seconds. Reuse caller-scoped temporary snapshots for preview/import after reauthorization. - Index repository package boundaries once and cap expanded work at 1,000 packages, 10,000 files, and 100 MiB, including repeated copies of shared blobs. Bound path depth and the shared path index. Discovery keeps audited manifests without retaining all package bodies. - Resolve moving branches before fetching so unchanged discovery reuses caller-scoped snapshots. Limit active scans, scan frequency, and new downloads per caller and company; quotas apply before metadata reads and across connections, and cached scans do not consume the download quota. - Store complete versions with script content, binary bytes, and executable modes. Preserve these through copies, runtime caches, and runner packaging. - Stage downloads before publication. Use source leases, revision checks, and transactional activity records. Keep installed versions after failures, upstream deletion, deselection, and disconnect. - Add the approved import flow, Sources page, selection tree, provenance, read-only Studio behavior, and saved return from GitHub setup. - Add package manifests, commit-pinned file previews, and separate runtime requirements and reference warnings. Supporting files are included together; nested skills remain independently selectable. Preview requests reauthorize the caller and re-audit package content. - Show installed skills as compact links beneath each source. Repository titles open GitHub. Keep Refresh, Select skills, and Disconnect source in a three-dot menu. Source rows omit the branch, imported count, and refresh timestamp; action alignment and repository titles work at narrow widths. - Stream discovery metadata over an opt-in NDJSON response. Show measured Git download progress and real package/file counts, animate newly checked skills, support cancellation, and require a complete scan before selection. Keep the existing JSON API. - Retain component stories and add a separate full-app journey story group. Include fixed progress states and interactive scan, large-repository, interruption, and saving stories. - Update Skills documentation and product contracts. Suppress private GitHub skill references in telemetry. Privacy review requested for the telemetry changes. ## Verification - Local repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and Storybook build passed during this work. Focused transport, authorization, scanner, persistence, route, and UI tests pass. The final UI refinement passes all eight focused UI tests, UI typecheck/build, and token gates. The scanner resource and repeated-discovery fixes pass 132 focused scanner, transport, authorization, source-service, route, and rate-limit tests, plus server typecheck/build. Full-suite verification comes from CI; the older full local Vitest run was stopped after unrelated chat failures and a font-test failure, all of which passed in fresh focused runs. At commit `1098d5996`, all 54 active checks pass; two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. CI covers repository typecheck, build, the full test suites, browser shards, and the canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings; the security scan also passes. - Adversarial scanner tests verify repeated-blob byte accounting with and without declared sizes, package/file/path caps, one-time repository indexing, metadata-only discovery audits, and nested package boundaries. Additional tests cover branch movement, snapshot reuse, caller/company quotas, isolation across connections, active-lease cleanup, quota recovery, and rejection before any metadata API call. - Real Git tests verify hidden paths, exact binary bytes, executable modes, export-ignore preservation, symlink/submodule reporting, pinned commits, caller-scoped cache reuse, cancellation, cleanup, and credential isolation. Regression tests hold both download slots with permanently blocked progress callbacks, verify timeout/cancellation cleanup and retry, and exercise HTTP backpressure cancellation. Access tests cover automatic public-URL connection selection and revoked grants. Database tests verify company and grant audiences. - Live isolated browser test: the public `anthropics/skills` scan now completes and discovers all 20 skills without connecting an account. Imported canvas-design with all 83 files, opened it from Sources, and verified the installed binary-font preview/download control. Package previews also expose the complete file inventory before import. Cancelled an active Git download and retried successfully to all 20 discovered skills; the browser displayed measured download progress. The current audits reject four other packages; eligible selections remain importable. - Browser checks verify the simplified source rows at desktop and narrow widths, keyboard navigation into the actions menu, Refresh from the menu, selection, and fixture disconnect with installed skills retained. Storybook includes a menu-open checkpoint and a 320px layout. - Storybook includes receiving/preparing download checkpoints and a timed full-app import journey, plus cancellation, retry, large-repository, and saving states. Streaming tests cover split UTF-8 frames, incomplete streams, late responses, cross-company requests, HTTP errors, and JSON compatibility. - Earlier live acceptance on this PR imported `stitch-skill` with `DESIGN.md`, assigned it to an agent, disconnected its source, and ran a successful Studio test that read both installed files. An editable copy changed independently. Both Skills variants, mobile selection, and return from GitHub setup were exercised. - Private access, revoked credentials, OAuth success return, binary/script preservation, concurrent refresh, transaction rollback, version pins, and legacy adoption have automated coverage. A real private-repository OAuth grant was not created during this test. ## Risks - The migration groups recognizable legacy imports without provider calls. Their first successful refresh completes the local package snapshot. - Reference checks are advisory. They cover Markdown links and explicit relative resource paths, not arbitrary runtime dependency graphs. Preview text is capped at 64 KiB; imported bytes remain complete. - Git must be installed on the server. Shallow fetches still download the branch snapshot, including files outside selected packages. Downloads have size/time/concurrency limits. Temporary caches are bounded and caller-scoped. GitHub API quota still applies to repository metadata and the connection picker; content no longer uses per-file API requests. Failed scans retain installed content. - Sources depend on the current caller's GitHub access. A saved connection does not grant access to another person's token. - GitHub script support and immediate manual refresh are explicit maintainer-approved requirements. The operator trusts the selected repository and accepts upstream script and executable-mode changes on refresh. Static audits are not a sandbox or a guarantee of safe code; agents may later invoke installed helpers under their runtime permissions. Import and refresh do not execute scripts, hooks, package installation, or builds. Raw URL and skills.sh imports keep their prior script restrictions. - Source originals remain read-only. Refresh affects subsequent unpinned runs; explicit pins and active runs retain their versions. - The telemetry change removes source-managed GitHub identifiers from skill-reference events. It introduces no event or field. Please review the privacy boundary. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add secondary navigation for agent chat (#14706)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent Chat already provides a persistent conversation with each agent. > - Its shortcuts share the primary navigation and do not give chats a dedicated place. > - People need to find agents, start a chat, and switch conversations without moving the page layout. > - This pull request adds a secondary chat sidebar and a landing page around the existing chat surface. > - The same conversation, composer, history, and context panel remain in use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13283 and #13420. This extends the existing experimental Agent Chat navigation after review of the component and page stories. It supports the CEO Chat roadmap item through the existing task-backed conversation model. **Subsystem affected** The board UI and the company-scoped conversation list API. **Current behavior** Chat shortcuts sit inside the primary navigation. There is no dedicated landing page with a searchable conversation list. A separate landing header also moves the sidebar when an agent is selected. **Proposed behavior** Show a Chat entry in primary navigation. Keep a searchable agent sidebar beside the chat content. The plus button starts or reopens the current user's single conversation with that agent. Keep the header and sidebar in the same positions before and after selection. **Reason and benefit** People can find agents and return to persistent conversations without leaving the chat area or creating duplicate chats. **Breaking changes** The experimental chat navigation changes. Explicitly adding a chat now resolves its conversation immediately. Direct visits to unused agent chat URLs remain read-only. The existing per-agent routes and message contracts remain compatible. No database migration is required. ## What Changed - Add an account- and company-scoped conversation list endpoint with the existing access checks, feature gate, and OpenAPI entry. - Add the live secondary sidebar, landing page, avatars, search, loading states, errors, and retry controls. - Make the agent picker wait for chat creation and display failures. Existing agents reopen the same conversation. A dismissed selection cannot close a reopened picker or navigate over a newer choice. - Preserve recent-activity ordering and terminated agents’ chat history. Scope live list refreshes to the current user’s conversation events. A failed historical-agent lookup leaves healthy chats usable and offers a focused retry. - Keep the sidebar and header stable across chat routes. Keep mobile selection in the navigation drawer. - Use the production components in Storybook. Prepare the theme and mobile viewport before mounting the page to avoid the startup flash. - Update product documentation, the design guide, and navigation tests. Replace old browser expectations for stars and recent shortcuts with persistent conversation and layout coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass after rebasing onto master. - Focused UI tests pass, including 105 sidebar, picker, and live-update checks after review fixes. The 33 conversation service and route tests and 10 OpenAPI checks pass, including ownership, feature gating, and concurrent creation. - The full local test run passed 14,163 server tests before three environment or timeout failures. The embedded Postgres startup, connector socket, and native runner failures all passed direct reruns. - Browser test-drive verification covers a real provider reply, add and reopen, persisted history after reload, no-match search recovery, mobile drawer dismissal, and top-aligned context panels. - Browser measurements confirm that the sidebar has the same position and dimensions on the landing page and an agent conversation. - Storybook builds and its add-and-reopen interaction passes. - The revised browser regression passes locally against a freshly built throwaway instance. It covers stable sidebar geometry, add/reopen uniqueness, drafts, search, history, and terminated-agent history after reload. The full CI browser suite also passes. - Latest commit `b323577d9523180104df4000eaceedea2772608c`: all 54 completed checks pass, including the complete server/workspace/browser suites, aggregate verification, build/typecheck, security scans, and canary packaging. The two Storybook jobs are skipped by their workflow conditions. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36714052050). - Greptile reviewed this same commit at 5/5 with no remaining actionable findings; all review threads are resolved. - Reviewer path: enable Agent Chat, click Chat, use plus to choose an agent, send a message, switch away, and reopen that agent. One conversation must remain, with its history intact. ## Risks - The new sidebar lists persistent conversations instead of starred and recent shortcuts. - Chat creation is asynchronous. Errors stay visible in the picker, and delayed responses cannot navigate into a previous company or account. - The shell adjustment is limited to chat routes and preserves the existing conversation implementation. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The session does not expose the exact API model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #123` / `Refs #123` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: always enable keyboard shortcuts (#14643)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The web UI has keyboard shortcuts for the inbox, task lists, cases, and task detail, plus global shortcuts such as `c`, `/`, `?`, `[`, and `]` > - Shortcut enablement was an instance-wide General setting until #14141 moved it to a per-user preference that defaults to off > - The move did not carry the old instance value over, so every existing user lost shortcuts on upgrade and had to find a new toggle under Profile settings > - A toggle that only turns off a standard, input-safe feature costs a setting, a database column, two API routes, and a React context for little benefit > - This pull request removes both the instance setting and the personal preference and enables keyboard shortcuts for every signed-in user > - The benefit is one less thing to configure, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and less code to maintain ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14141 (the change that introduced the personal preference). **What existing behavior does this improve?** Keyboard shortcuts in the web UI stay off unless each user turns them on in Profile settings. **Subsystem affected** Web UI shortcuts, Profile settings, instance general settings, the `/api/auth/preferences` routes, and the `user` table. **Current behavior** Shortcuts default to off per user. #14141 moved the toggle from Instance settings → General to Profile settings and did not carry the old instance value over. Users who had shortcuts on lost them after the upgrade and had to find the new toggle. **Proposed behavior** Keyboard shortcuts are always enabled for every signed-in user. There is no instance setting and no personal preference. Shortcuts already ignore key presses inside text inputs and modal dialogs, so an opt-out is not needed. **Reason and benefit** Fewer settings, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and removal of a database column, two API routes, a query hook, and a React context that existed only to gate this feature. **Breaking changes** `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences` are removed. `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` no longer accepts `keyboardShortcuts`; that schema is strict, so the key now returns 400. `instance.general.keyboardShortcuts` is no longer a valid `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` key; the parser ignores unknown keys with a warning. ## What Changed - Removed the Keyboard shortcuts section from Profile settings, the `useUserPreferences` hook, `queryKeys.auth.preferences`, and `authApi.getPreferences` / `authApi.updatePreferences`. - Removed `GeneralSettingsContext`. The inbox, legacy inbox, task list, legacy task list, cases, and task detail pages no longer gate their key handlers. - Removed the `enabled` option from `useKeyboardShortcuts`. The app shell always registers the global shortcuts. - Removed `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences`, their OpenAPI entries, and the `currentUserPreferencesSchema` / `updateCurrentUserPreferencesSchema` validators. - Removed `keyboardShortcuts` from `InstanceGeneralSettings`, the general settings zod schema, the settings service defaults, and `HIDEABLE_GENERAL_SECTIONS`. - Added migration `0289_drop_user_keyboard_shortcuts`, which drops `user.keyboard_shortcuts`. - Updated `AGENTS.md`, `doc/SPEC.md`, `doc/SPEC-implementation.md`, and `docs/deploy/environment-variables.md`. - Parsed the stored general settings row with `instanceGeneralSettingsSchema.strip()` in the feedback vote path, so a retired key left in the row cannot reset the sharing preference to `prompt` and overwrite the stored choice. - Kept every bare global shortcut (`c`, `?`, `[`, `]`, `/`) out of open modal dialogs in `useKeyboardShortcuts`; only `/` had that guard before. - Updated the affected tests and added a Profile settings test that asserts the toggle is gone, a hook test for the modal dialog guard, and a feedback service regression test for the retired-key case. ## Verification - Typecheck passes for `@paperclipai/shared`, `@paperclipai/db` (including the migration numbering and safety checks), `@paperclipai/server`, and `ui`. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sentry.test.ts` → 119 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/pages/ProfileSettings.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Cases.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceGeneralSettings.test.tsx` → 286 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.test.ts` → 16 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx` → 7 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/feedback-service.test.ts` (embedded Postgres) → the new retired-key test passes with the fix and fails without it. - Manual: sign in with no settings changed, open the inbox, press `j` and `k` to move the selection, press `?` to open the cheatsheet. Open Settings → Profile and confirm there is no Keyboard shortcuts section. ## Risks - The migration drops a column. It uses `DROP COLUMN IF EXISTS`, and the column has no readers after this change. If you roll back to a build from before this PR after the migration has run, re-add the column first: `ALTER TABLE "user" ADD COLUMN "keyboard_shortcuts" boolean DEFAULT false NOT NULL;`. The older build's ORM selects that column when it loads users. - Any external client that still sends `keyboardShortcuts` to `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` receives a 400. No in-repo client does. - Stored `instance_settings.general.keyboardShortcuts` values are stripped on read and ignored. - Users who never turned the toggle on now get shortcuts. The handlers skip text inputs, contenteditable regions, and modal dialogs, so typing is unaffected. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`) in Claude Code, with extended thinking and tool use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(agents): persist agent files across tasks without revision history (#14420)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - An agent needs personal files across tasks and sessions. > - AGENTS.md is one file in that directory. Supporting files need the same persistence. > - The Instructions Editor and agent runs must share one current directory. > - Concurrent runs should apply only the files they change. The last sync of the same file wins. > - This pull request uses existing file transport and removes temporary copies after sync. > - Old instruction-only sessions keep their restore contract. New saves do not create revision history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14325. This replaces its revision-oriented design with persistent agent files. Keep #14325 unmerged. Transport prerequisite #14416 merged first at `d172197117a14b80a1eb2d2835a0e7cce2679656`. This PR now targets master and remains below 100 changed files. Related work: #4513 and #8798 cover instruction tooling. This change handles run synchronization, cross-task personal files, browser editing, and old-session restoration. ## What Changed - Keep one current directory per company and agent. Point AGENT_HOME at a temporary working copy for each active run. Keep task files and provider HOME separate. - Restore text, binary files, and nested folders through workspace transport. Exclude remote agent files from task Git snapshots with a self-ignoring file inside the reserved runtime directory; never write through repository-controlled Git metadata. - Collect after the provider and child processes have stopped. Keep resumable conversation state. - Apply changed and deleted files under the agent lock. The last sync wins for the same file. Unrelated concurrent changes survive. - Remove temporary copies after successful sync, rejected sync, and staging failure. Register ownership before copying so restart recovery can remove interrupted preparation. Retry transient synchronization up to three times. Preserve the original remote lease reference until deletion succeeds; restart cleanup never acquires a replacement sandbox. Do not create captured directories or a conflict-review queue for new runs. - Keep browser editing, stale-draft protection, and streaming binary downloads. Keep the instruction entry and text editor limited to 1 MiB. - Keep historical agent-folder sync failures on their affected runs instead of repeating them above current saved instructions. Preserve legacy candidate review and current browser-save errors. Avoid duplicate quota warnings while retaining separate sync failures when they describe a different problem. - Require target-scoped caller grants for peer instruction access, while preserving self edits, responsible-user checks, and protected-change consent. - Treat full storage as a nonblocking run warning, never an agent pause or run-admission failure. Restore already-over-quota saved folders so ordinary agent cleanup can recover; warn on each run until cleanup. The run detail view shows the warning. - Allow 256 MiB per file, 2 GiB per directory, and 100,000 entries. Hash large files as streams. Check editor-save quotas with metadata instead of hashing unrelated files. - Preserve old native inputs, instruction-only copies, paths, digests, and pending legacy candidates. Adopt old revision heads once. New writes do not append history rows. - Add idempotent migration 0287 and verify upgrades from the preview tables and receipts. - Add nine interactive stories under **Agents / Persistent files**, including automatic incoming edits, stale browser drafts, and storage-limit diagnostics. ## Verification - Merge candidate: `4f5390107ec6ffd80a76d1d2e85530e66f21d079`, after merging current master and the landed transport prerequisite. Integration required no manual conflict resolution; the feature remains 99 changed files. Full workspace typecheck, production build, token gates, and 715 focused tests passed on this merge candidate. Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. All 55 checks passed, with four conditional skips, including the build, typecheck, browser E2E, and canary dry run. A single retry recovered four jobs interrupted by runner shutdowns; no source changes were required. - Historical-warning UI fix: all 6,834 UI tests across 640 files passed, including regression coverage for three old failures, legacy preserved edits, and warnings scoped to the affected run. Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and token gates passed. Browser-verified Storybook playtests passed for Historical Failures After Successful Save, Storage Limit, and Full Storage Run Warning. - Review follow-ups at `4e20c9fb2`: all 18 focused tests passed, including external Git directories, linked worktrees, symlinks, hardlinks, and distinct I/O failures alongside storage warnings. Server and UI typechecks, token gates, and the production build passed. - Storage warning regressions at `0724f3012`: all 33 directory tests and all five heartbeat-list tests passed, with no skips in their successful runs. They cover repeated runs while full, an already-over-quota saved folder, cleanup, warnings retained after unrelated save failures, and bounded warnings in large result JSON. Server typecheck passed after the final warning fixes. - Full workspace typecheck, production build, and token gates passed during this follow-up. Product E2E harness: 631 tests passed across 52 files; harness typecheck passed. Earlier native session/context and directory/legacy collection suites passed 537 tests; Runner unit/transport suites passed 329 tests. - **Real E2E at `0724f3012` (before this follow-up):** legacy local Codex and native Daytona Codex each passed six tasks, one server restart, seven independent assertions, and cleanup verification. Both prove browser-to-agent edits, agent-to-browser edits, nested/binary restoration, per-file last-sync-wins, a successful run after an oversized save rejection, and cleanup clearing the warning. - Native local Codex also passed the six-task quota flow before the final warning-retention fixes. That pass began at `918d1ed02` while the bounded-result warning fix was being edited, so it is not claimed as exact-final-head evidence. Its final-head rerun failed during embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap before any provider run: the macOS host had 87,365 of 87,381 SysV semaphores occupied. No unrelated services or kernel limits were changed. - The final-source report intentionally records **2/3 cells passed**, preserving the blocked native-local attempt: `tests/runner-e2e/results/agent-files-quota-final-20260928-report/`. Earlier failed attempts and provenance notes remain under `tests/runner-e2e/results/agent-files-quota-final-20260928-input/` and the original campaign directories. - Daytona used immutable image `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:5643f0d801417cae3581833a1a3bc6715b325e028602738d2652c44cac5dc6bf` and its exact Linux runner binary. Controller source is `0724f3012`; image source is recorded separately. - Legacy-session compatibility and all three ACP Stop/resume browser regressions passed on the prior validated feature head `169fab46d5af21caa2269b4c1b29b69c933a6951`. They assert the same provider session is retained and interrupted writes are not replayed. Migration upgrade tests also passed earlier. - Nine interactive stories are under **Agents / Persistent files**, including **Full Storage Run Warning**. Its playtest and visual browser inspection passed; the warning states that runs continue and the editor remains available. - Prior-head checks on `4e20c9fb2`: 55 passed, two conditional jobs skipped, no failures or pending checks. All eight browser E2E shards and their aggregate passed. Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 with no findings; all review threads are resolved, the security scan passed, and GitHub reports no merge conflicts. - The broad local follow-up test run was interrupted after host semaphore exhaustion affected isolated PostgreSQL instances. It also encountered the existing macOS long-path fixture failure and two timeout failures. This is not a claim that the full local suite passed. Logs are retained; focused storage/warning tests passed. ## Risks - A later sync can overwrite an earlier edit to the same file, including a saved browser edit. There is no text merge or retained version. This is the intended last-sync-wins policy. - A save that exceeds a storage limit is rejected and its temporary copy is discarded. The run itself continues normally, and later runs restore the last saved files with a warning until cleanup. Transient sync failures get bounded retries. An I/O failure partway through a sync can leave some files updated; a failed receipt does not claim whole-folder success. - Larger folders increase copy time, network traffic, and temporary disk usage. Active runs still need working copies. Terminal runs do not accumulate archives. Operators must provision disk for agents and configured concurrency; these limits are not company-wide quotas. - A restored old native session remains instruction-only until a fresh session starts. Its original conflict fence and existing pending candidates remain compatible. - Provider processes close at the collection boundary. Conversation resume remains available, but warm process reuse is lost. - Backups must include the instance filesystem and database. External bundles keep their existing behavior until explicitly moved to managed storage. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The session does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. Reasoning, code execution, and browser tools assisted this change. Real provider E2E uses `gpt-5.6-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Fry (Paperclip) <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): show running commit in staging account menu (#14410)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The account menu shows the signed-in user's identity. > - Staging users need to know which server commit is running after a deploy. > - The health endpoint already returns that commit, but the menu does not show it. > - This pull request adds the short commit below the email on staging hosts. > - Users can open the menu to check a deploy without opening deployment tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The account menu on staging instances. **Current behavior** The menu shows the user's name and email. It does not show the running server commit. **Proposed behavior** On `*.staging.paperclip.app`, show `SHA 8751e2d` below the email. Use the current `/api/health` commit. Show the full SHA on hover and link to the commit on GitHub. Refresh the health query when the menu opens. Hide the label on other hosts and when commit metadata is unavailable. **Reason and benefit** A user can confirm which commit a staging instance runs after an automatic deploy. **Breaking changes** None. The server already returns the commit field. Refs #14060 for related account-menu work. This change adds deployment information only. ## What Changed - Add the existing health response commit field to the UI type. - Share the staging host check and a separate health query across both account-menu variants. A menu refresh failure leaves the access gate health state unchanged. - Show a short SHA below the email. Link to the full commit on GitHub and include the full SHA in its accessible name and hover title. - Document the staging label and cover staging hosts, other hosts, missing metadata, refresh on reopen, and request failure isolation. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx` — 24 tests passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. The UI build and typecheck also passed again after review fixes. - Full test matrix — passed on the latest commit in [CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36447810742). The local `pnpm test:run` was stopped before completion after CI finished the same suites. The focused local tests, full local typecheck, and full local build passed. - Browser shard 6 passed on one rerun. Its first attempt lost part of the draft text in the existing attachment-receipt reload test. No code changed for the rerun. - Rendered the real account menu in a local browser fixture with a staging hostname condition and mocked health response. Confirmed the SHA fits below the email in the dark menu. - Greptile review — 5/5, all review threads resolved. - Manual check after deployment: open the menu on a staging host and compare the SHA with `/api/health`. Open the menu again after a deploy to refresh it. Confirm the label is absent on production and localhost. ## Risks - Low risk. Each menu opening on staging can make one additional health request. - The host check applies to `*.staging.paperclip.app`. Other staging domains will need an explicit update. - The label identifies the running server commit. It can briefly show cached data while the request completes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact model variant and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code execution, repository inspection, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(connections): retire the legacy Composio broker (#13758)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their access to external tools. > - Connectors expose these tools through a governed MCP gateway. > - PR #13755 added a direct Composio MCP connection behind the experimental MCP aggregators flag. > - The old project API-key broker still created toolkit child connections and showed a separate Services tab. > - Keeping both paths leaves obsolete setup and session code in the product. > - This change removes the broker and preserves direct MCP setup, credentials, permissions, and execution. > - Saved legacy records fail closed and remain available for explicit removal. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13755. This retirement supersedes the legacy-path fixes proposed in #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906. It does not close those PRs. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Composio connector setup, management, and runtime dispatch. **Current behavior** Composio offers both direct MCP and a project API-key broker. The broker mints sessions and creates one child connection per toolkit. **Proposed behavior** Offer only direct MCP. Remove the toolkit Services UI, REST routes, API client, and session broker. Block saved legacy parent and child records from discovery, execution, health checks, reconnect, and OAuth. Preserve their records and credentials until the operator removes each connection. **Reason and benefit** The direct MCP connector becomes the single supported Composio workflow. Provider accounts remain managed in Composio. ## What Changed - Remove the API-key catalog method and its generated-source definition. - Delete Composio broker clients, session creation, account synchronization, child lifecycle, and toolkit routes. - Remove the Services tab, service rows, child provenance, and cascade-removal controls. Keep Vercel provenance intact. - Retain a shared retirement guard for stored legacy records. Show Retired status and replacement/removal guidance in the connection list and details; hide obsolete runtime controls. - Preserve the experimental MCP aggregators flag and direct MCP infrastructure. - Replace broker fixtures with retirement tests and extend direct Composio catalog/reconnect coverage. ## Verification - Focused shared, server, and UI tests passed with one worker. Server retirement tests use a name filter; no full local test suite was run, as requested. - Server and UI TypeScript checks passed. - Token gates and UI build passed. - Real browser: opened the saved Composio connection, refreshed all 11 tools, and ran the provider's read-only GitHub account-list operation through the standard Test dialog as an agent. The provider returned success using the existing OAuth credentials. - See `doc/connections/COMPOSIO-BROKER-RETIREMENT.md` for scope and live evidence. - Storybook build passed. A fresh real agent used `COMPOSIO_SEARCH_TOOLS` and `COMPOSIO_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` to return the actual Paperclip DeepWiki hierarchy: one success, zero errors. Gateway audit records confirm both calls succeeded. - Browser retirement check: a credential-free legacy fixture showed the guidance, opened the direct MCP replacement flow, and was removed through the standard confirmation. - Focused regressions for the experimental settings copy and exact OpenAPI route coverage passed. All latest-head CI checks passed (54 successful, two intentionally skipped); Greptile scored 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. The PR has no merge conflicts. ## Risks This intentionally breaks the old Composio project API-key and child-connection workflow. Existing legacy records cannot run, even if their stored status is active. Operators must create a new direct MCP connection and choose access rules; credentials and grants are not migrated. Remove each old record separately to delete its credentials. No schema migration or data deletion runs automatically. Direct MCP connections keep their existing grants and secrets. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact runtime variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental persistent agent chat (#13284)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Conversations must use the same tasks, controls, and execution history. > - Users need an ongoing chat with an agent without managing task properties. > - Agents should clarify and plan work, then hand execution to assigned project tasks. > - This pull request combines the reviewed Agent Chat stack for one squash merge. > - The benefit is persistent conversation with normal task governance and shared UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task lifecycle, agent runtime tools, shared task UI, and browser/paid runner tests. **Problem or motivation** Users need one persistent conversation with each agent. A separate chat store or renderer would duplicate task behavior and bypass existing controls. **Proposed solution** Use a task-backed chat per company, user, and agent. Reuse the task composer and transcript. Clarify and plan in chat, then create assigned project tasks with the relevant plan. Keep Agent Chat behind its own disabled-by-default experimental setting. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the task-backed direction in [CEO Chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/master/ROADMAP.md#-ceo-chat). Related proposals: #2504 and #9693. Related request: #7981. The maintainer requested one squash merge of the complete stack. Consolidates the reviewed runtime [#13281](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13281), backend [#13282](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13282), and UI [#13283](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13283) layers with this PR's E2E coverage. All four layers passed CI and received Greptile 5/5 before consolidation. This PR targets master and includes the complete feature. ## What Changed - Add personal canonical chat tasks with ordinary company visibility, immutable identity, idempotent first sends, and an idle waiting state. - Process `/new` in queue order. Preserve history, release a chat pause, and fence old provider context and delayed writes. - Keep chat lifecycle rules across recovery, finalization, assignment, task lists, and rollups. - Support research and plan revision in chat. Hand plans to ordinary assigned project tasks before execution starts. Reject new chat subtasks. - Add repository-aware project creation and discovery tools, including multiple repository IDs and GitHub URLs, authorization, idempotency, and durable project-created cards. - Reuse task UI components for chat, with starred/recent agent navigation and a separate `enableAgentChat` experimental flag. - Add deterministic browser tests and 24 paid chat cells across four Codex/Claude profiles, with validated reports and screenshots. - Integrate current master recovery, controller lease, queued-message, and task UI changes. Gate chat interruption and deferred promotion on ownership/feature policy. Guarantee lease renewal and active controls are stopped even if teardown fails. - Preserve master's migration 0273 and generate chat migration 0274 with idempotent replay for development databases. ## Verification - Prior exact heads of all four PRs passed Linux CI, including build, typecheck, general/serialized tests, and browser E2E. Each had Greptile 5/5 and no unresolved findings. - Integrated local verification passed: full repository typecheck and production build, Storybook build, token gates, 340 focused UI tests, all 20 deterministic chat browser tests, two migration replay tests, 88 focused chat/queue/native/controller tests, and provider/session regressions including real lease expiry. These include the three lifecycle regressions for the final admission/teardown fixes; server typecheck also passes. Current head `1268eda16cc2af892055917e7292f068820be135` has Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved findings and passing security scans. All final-head CI gates passed: build, full Runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary, all general/serialized test shards, and all browser E2E shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34696739927)). Local PostgreSQL startup contention required serialized retries; skipped fixtures do not count as passing coverage. - The earlier paid campaign passed all 24 chat cells and retained 32 screenshots: [report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-34648511170-1/index.html?report=agent-chat#suite-agent-chat). It tested `abacbdfd2f660709ec37312cdb758284c8399d04`; it is prior evidence, not a paid run of this integrated head. - Manual check: enable Agent Chat in Experimental settings, open an agent, clarify and revise a plan, then hand off to an assigned project task. Stop a reply, send `/new`, and verify fresh context with retained history. Disable the setting and verify agent shortcuts/new chat turns are blocked. ## Risks - Queue/session integration can affect retries and delayed writes. Tests cover ownership, cancellation, reset boundaries, idle recovery, and ordinary task behavior. - Migration 0274 adds conversation fields and constraints. Replay is idempotent and preserves existing development chat history. - This combines the previously reviewed stack at the maintainer's request. Agent Chat remains off by default and is separate from Conference Room. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, code execution, browser tools, and parallel review. The exact context-window size is not exposed in this session. Codex and Claude also ran as test subjects in the linked paid campaign. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: show tasks created from a task by project (#13241)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A task can cause an agent to create more tasks. > - Those tasks can belong to other projects or have another parent. > - The subtask view does not show all work created from the current task. > - This pull request adds a Tasks tab with separate subtask and creation groups. > - Operators can follow created work without changing its parent or project. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Operators need to see all work that an agent creates while running for a task. Parentage alone does not describe this relationship. Legacy and native runs must follow the same rules. **Proposed solution** Show all subtasks in one section. Separately group tasks created from the source task by their current project, with a No project group when needed. A created subtask appears in both sections. Use saved run context and recorded creation activity to find the source task. **Alternatives considered** Making all created tasks children would change their hierarchy. Removing overlap between sections would hide the creation relationship. This change keeps the two memberships separate. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing Activity log & action attribution capability. It does not add a new roadmap area. Related PR: #9727 adds a stored source-task field and inbound attribution UI. This PR adds the outgoing task list using existing run and activity records and does not require that schema change. ## What Changed - Add a company-scoped createdFromIssueId filter to issue lists. - Save the actor run during task creation, including legacy child-helper calls. - Recover historical run attribution from creation activity when the origin run is absent. - Render the production Tasks panel with all subtasks and independently grouped created work. - Keep progress only for subtasks. Add folding, hover fades and project links. - Fetch all result pages and refresh on issue activity. Show load failures with Retry. - Add database, API, UI and pagination tests, design-guide examples and Storybook pages. ## Verification - Before rebase: 158 targeted tests passed. Workspace typecheck, UI/server builds, Storybook build and token gates passed. - After rebase: full workspace typecheck and build passed. The cursor fix passes 26 focused tests and UI/server typechecks. - The full local test command completed its general-server group with 10,563 passing tests and two failures: a missing native-runner fixture and a concurrency-test timeout. Building the fixture and rerunning both affected files passed all 41 tests. The local command stopped before its remaining groups; all corresponding GitHub test shards passed on the submitted head. - GitHub checks on commit |

feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. fix: repair runner configuration, macOS execution, and artifact galleries (#13062)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent adapters select a provider, a model, and a runtime. > - Runner conversion rejected existing Claude agents. The model list mixed providers. > - The native Claude runner rejected custom models and could not launch on macOS. > - This pull request fixes conversion, model selection, and verified macOS execution. > - It also groups configuration fields consistently across adapters and opens artifact images in the task gallery. > - Operators can change an agent configuration and run the selected model on their Mac. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Converting an existing Claude agent to Paperclip Runner failed with a Codex-only restriction. ACPX Claude showed unrelated models and required `claude-sonnet-5`. Its native runtime rejected macOS. Configuration mixed common model settings with process controls. Artifact cards labeled “Open gallery” navigated to attachment URLs instead of opening the task gallery. **Expected behavior** Conversion keeps agent identity and compatible settings. ACPX Claude uses the normal Claude catalog and accepts typed model IDs. Codex uses the native runner. The verified Claude runtime can launch on macOS ARM64 and x64. Common configuration sections place the same fields together across adapters. Artifact images open in the shared task gallery with navigation and downloads. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the configuration of an existing Claude agent. 2. Convert it to Paperclip Runner. 3. Select ACPX Claude and a different catalog model or a typed model ID. 4. Save the agent and run a disposable task on macOS. 5. Inspect configuration and advanced run-policy controls across adapters. **Paperclip version or commit** The bugs were reproduced on `165ca56a22adb60e5fda56045442d9c8498116a8`. This branch was rebased onto `7ed122911`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Local test-drive instance on macOS ARM64 with an isolated database. Related work: #11798 addresses unsupported ACP session options in the existing adapter path. #13048 addresses working-folder preservation. This change fixes native runner configuration and launch behavior. ## What Changed - Remove the Codex-only conversion restriction. Preserve agent identity, instructions, directories, credentials, and compatible model settings. Reset incompatible sessions while retaining history. - Show ACPX Claude and native Codex as distinct provider choices. Remove ACPX Codex from advertised configuration. Normalize legacy configurations before fresh runs without rewriting historical run descriptors. - Select model catalogs and cache entries by provider. Support refresh and typed model IDs. Pass exact Claude IDs through session creation, model changes, and recovery. - Add verified macOS ARM64 and x64 Claude SDK snapshots. Bound executable allocation and total snapshot size. Preserve package checks, dependency isolation, process ownership, cancellation, and Linux descriptor loading. - Probe local runtime readiness. Report remote platform checks as incomplete until the remote runner verifies its runtime. - Surface actual model rejection and allow correction and retry. - Repair missing ACPX goal-capability helpers exposed by the post-rebase live test. Persist and restore the optional capability without breaking session startup. - Put Agent identity first and intentionally remove the Capabilities editor, as requested. This is removal of UI editing, not relocation: preserve existing capability metadata and API compatibility without adding another editor. Use the themed select for configurable permission modes, with normal text instead of monospace. - Put model and provider under Adapter. Give environment variables their own section. Fold command and arguments under Configuration. Fold lifecycle, timeout, and interrupt grace under Advanced Run Policy. Hide single-option permission controls. - Open image and video artifact cards in the existing task gallery, including cards in the artifacts panel. Chat attachment images use the same gallery. Preserve standalone media previews and download links. ## Verification - Rebased focused UI/API/database suites: 293 tests passed. - Rebased native runtime and ACPX suites: 242 passed, 7 skipped. - Repository typecheck, build, and token gates passed for the runner changes. Gallery follow-up UI typecheck, build, and token gates also passed. - Follow-up UI suites passed (86 tests), packaging checks passed (14 tests), and the final focused runtime suites passed (126 passed, 7 skipped). - Linux container isolation and lifecycle fixtures passed before rebase (57 passed, 2 skipped). Rust ACPX provider-session tests passed after rebase (8 tests). - Browser tests completed actual Claude and native Codex tasks on macOS ARM64. They covered conversion, catalog refresh, a non-default catalog model, a typed `haiku` ID, save/reload, cancel, follow-up session continuity, invalid-model errors, and recovery. - Final-revision live tests completed a typed Claude task, a follow-up with the same provider session, and a native Codex task on macOS ARM64. - Browser tests confirmed the moved interrupt-grace field saves and survives reload. Cross-adapter tests cover Claude, Codex, Gemini, process, gateway, and schema forms. - Full local run: 7,080 passed, 30 skipped, and two timeouts. Both timeout suites passed on isolated rerun (84 tests); the failures were the plugin login-worker exit diagnostic and the runner real-server vertical slice. - Final follow-up checks: 50 registry tests and 45 snapshot/installation tests passed (6 platform-specific skips). Oversized executable rejection is covered before allocation or reading; unsupported-platform tests invoke the real installation probe. - Runner head `ddb5101c483a297f74875ab96b3c66035b002d50`: all CI gates green, including full runner verification, repository build, typecheck, general/serialized server suites, browser tests, and canary dry run. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34286178670). - Greptile: 5/5 on that runner head. All four review threads resolved. Superagent, Socket, and Snyk checks green. - After snapshot hardening, another real Claude task completed on this Mac using the rebuilt runtime. - Gallery follow-up: 148 focused tests passed, covering artifact selection, shared attachment collections, deduplication, image/video cards, standalone previews, downloads, and closing. Live browser verification completed on the settings follow-up: artifact selection, 6-image pagination with wrapping, download action, and closing all stayed on the same task URL. All checks passed on gallery head `96136da58ff195bf6ca00b281eb3022ad12d7bd8`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34287987536). Greptile returned 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads. - Final settings polish: 96 focused tests, UI typecheck/build, and token gates passed. A real browser walkthrough verified readable permission options, identity placement, Capabilities removal, and permission save/reload. Original test-agent permission mode restored. All 31 checks passed on final head `e46540d6bf32bfb0566dca16b2f4a75ba437618c`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34292797886). Greptile returned 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Capabilities intentionally has no editable UI field after this change. Existing values remain readable and API-compatible; removing the field does not erase stored metadata. - macOS launch now copies verified package files into private snapshots. The implementation must retain isolation and clean up snapshots on exit. - Runtime provider or model changes reset the current session. Historical runs remain available. - The macOS x64 SDK executable digest was verified, but a live Intel Mac run was not available. Linux verification used container fixtures, not a real Claude task. - Remote environment tests report a warning when only the platform has been checked. They do not claim package readiness from the server host. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact served model identifier and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, Rust and TypeScript tests, and browser automation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites and both timeout suites on rerun; full-run counts above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): restrict company navigation to accessible memberships (#13039)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board selects a company before it loads that company's inbox and tasks. > - Instance administrators can list companies where they have no membership. > - The board treated that directory as a list of companies the user could enter. > - This pull request gives navigation a list based on the existing company access check. > - Users can select their companies without landing on an inbox that rejects their access. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes #6090. Refs #4855 for the related account-recovery case; this PR does not grant company membership. **What happened?** An instance administrator can select a company where they have no membership. Its inbox then shows “User does not have access to this company.” Company directory visibility and access to company contents use different rules. **Expected behavior** Company navigation should show only companies the current user can enter. A stored selection for an inaccessible company should fall back to an accessible company. A direct link to an inaccessible company should use the existing unavailable-company page. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create Company A and Company B with separate owners. 2. Sign in as an instance administrator who belongs only to Company A. 3. Select Company B through a stored selection or a link with its prefix. 4. Observe that the board accepts the company selection, but company-scoped requests return 403. Related: #10524 lets cloud users enter additional companies where they hold memberships. This fix preserves that access and excludes companies where they have no membership. ## What Changed - Added `scope=accessible` to `GET /api/companies`, using the existing `hasCompanyAccess` predicate. - Changed the board navigation list to request that scope. Instance Access uses a separate unscoped, account-keyed directory so administrators can manage all companies. Membership edits refresh navigation. - Reject empty, unknown, and repeated scope values with 400. Directory loading errors offer a retry before access controls are shown. - Added route tests for cloud, session, board-key, local trusted, non-member, and agent access. - Added client and component tests for navigation/admin request isolation, grants outside the navigation list, self-membership refresh, directory failure recovery, and forbidden administration. - Updated the API guide and OpenAPI document. ## Verification - Latest commit: 36 focused UI tests passed. The broader UI shard passed all 281 files / 2,533 tests after correcting an asynchronous test assertion. - Server authorization and OpenAPI regression suites: 31 tests passed. - UI typecheck and `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed after review fixes. - Full local test runner: exercised the supported shards. Several unrelated suites hit embedded PostgreSQL startup failures or startup timeouts under local load. The UI regression issue found in the broad run was corrected and its full UI shard passed. These local limitations are not reported as a green full-suite result. - [GitHub CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34233416473): all checks green on `4e1698cd4` — all server and workspace test shards, all browser end-to-end shards, typecheck/release registry, build, canary dry run, policy, and Docker context integrity. Security checks also passed. - Greptile: 5/5 on the latest commit; both initial findings addressed and all review threads resolved. ## Risks - The UI now excludes companies visible only through instance administrator status. Company membership continues to control access to contents. - Additional companies with active memberships remain available. - The client and server changes must ship together. An older server ignores the new query parameter and retains the previous behavior. - No database migration or permission grant changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, and test execution. The exact served model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(agent-login): resume an active login session and permit concurrent login terminals (#12861)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent authentication uses server sessions, plugin workers, and browser login panels. > - A page reload loses an active login session, and one worker permits only one login terminal. > - These limits cause lost work and prevent two owners from logging in through one worker. > - This pull request lets the browser resume active sessions and lets workers serve concurrent login terminals. > - The benefit is reliable login recovery with a bounded process-wide route limit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** It improves agent credential login recovery and concurrent login terminal handling. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (multiple of the above). **Current behavior** A page reload loses the active login session. A shared plugin worker rejects a second login terminal. **Proposed behavior** The browser reads and resumes the owner's active session. A worker supports multiple login terminal routes under a process-wide ceiling. **Reason and benefit** Owners keep login progress after a reload. Two owners can log in through one worker without removing the route limit. **Breaking changes** None. The change adds owner-scoped read routes and changes login terminal concurrency. ## What Changed - Replace the single worker login route with maps keyed by host route and worker session identifiers. - Add a process-wide login route ceiling and release each reserved slot on every exit path. - Add owner-scoped active-session reads with consistent negative responses and private cache control. - Keep the device-login prompt while the session has an active public status. - Add a durable setup-token cancel fallback for a lost in-memory session. - Resume active sessions when the agent configuration or onboarding panel mounts. - Remove routine unmount cancellation and keep explicit Cancel behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/server test` — server route, service, and plugin-worker-manager suites. - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/plugin-sdk test` — worker RPC host suite. - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`. - `cd ui && npx tsc -b`. - `tests/e2e/onboarding.spec.ts` — reload during login. - CI must pass on this pull request. ## Risks The change affects agent authentication and the sandbox-to-host boundary. Route cleanup must release every reserved slot. Owner checks must prevent cross-owner session access. Tests cover route cleanup, owner scope, reload recovery, and concurrent worker routes. ## Model Used Codex, OpenAI GPT-5, tool use and code review support. The implementation author owns the exact model details for the code changes. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR with the relevant issue-template fields - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Remove cheap model profiles (#12683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents that use different model providers and adapters. > - Paperclip must keep agent execution rules clear and predictable. > - The cheap-model profile added a second execution mode across adapters, task recovery, APIs, and the UI. > - That mode increased configuration and recovery complexity. > - This pull request removes the cheap-model profile as a product feature. > - The benefit is one model-selection path for normal work and recovery work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** This change simplifies model selection across agent configuration, task execution, recovery, and adapter capabilities. **Current behavior** Paperclip exposes cheap-model profiles in adapter metadata, agent runtime configuration, task overrides, recovery rules, APIs, and the board UI. Recovery work can select a different model profile from the agent's configured model. **Proposed behavior** Paperclip uses the agent's configured model for normal work and recovery work. Status-only recovery stays limited to coordination work. The API rejects legacy model-profile configuration. A migration removes stored model-profile values from existing agent, issue, and historical revision records. **Reason and benefit** One model path reduces configuration, API, UI, and recovery complexity. It also prevents status recovery from becoming a separate product-level model-routing feature. **Breaking changes** This change removes model-profile fields and adapter capability metadata. Existing stored model-profile values are removed by an idempotent migration. The validators reject new legacy profile values with clear errors. ## What Changed - Removed model-profile types, adapter capabilities, API fields, and model selection logic. - Removed cheap-model controls from agent and task UI surfaces. - Kept status-only recovery limited to coordination context while normal continuations use the configured agent model. - Added an idempotent migration that removes stored model-profile values from agents, issues, and configuration revisions without changing issue update timestamps. - Updated tests and product documentation for the single-model behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. - `pnpm build` passes. - `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,607 passing tests and 8 environment-sensitive failures in unrelated fixed-port and database-deadlock suites. The same failures repeated in an isolated rerun. CI is the final clean-room result. ## Risks - This is an intentional breaking change for clients that send model-profile fields. - The migration changes legacy agent, issue, and configuration-revision JSON. It is idempotent and preserves unrelated fields and issue update timestamps. - The change is cross-cutting because the removed feature existed in adapters, shared contracts, the server, plugins, and the UI. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex with `gpt-5`. Reasoning and tool use were enabled. The runtime did not expose the context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): complete the task workspace (#12640)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task page is the main place where people guide and review agent work. > - Native runner events already project into the existing task chat on the lower stack. > - The larger task workspace must support those events without breaking direct adapters. > - Legacy questions, final replies, empty transcripts, and classic controls must keep their behavior. > - This pull request completes the provider-neutral task workspace experience. > - The benefit is one coherent task surface for native and direct execution paths. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12639. Refs #12617. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Task chat, task detail, side panels, interaction forms, and transcript presentation. **Problem or motivation** The task page does not provide one complete workspace for live activity, plans, questions, queued guidance, files, and documents. Earlier native UI work also exposed compatibility risks in legacy question and reply paths. **Proposed solution** Add the task workspace components and provider-neutral protocol presentation. Keep runner-only controls behind runtime facts. Preserve all direct-adapter composer, transcript, interaction, and finalization behavior. **Alternatives considered** A separate runner page would duplicate task behavior. Replacing legacy transcript logic would create unnecessary adapter regressions. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the unified task experience and the Cloud and Sandbox agents milestone. ## Stack - Base PR: #12639. - Lower PR: #12638. - This PR contains only its 119-file UI delta against `runner/remote-wss-transport`. - The next stack PR adds administrator and observability controls. ## What Changed - Added a reusable task workspace side panel for files and documents. - Added provider-neutral cards for tools, plans, questions, protocol activity, and progress. - Added queued guidance and richer composer state. - Added compact and expanded interaction presentation. - Added live activity, thinking, usage, recovery, and final reply presentation. - Added document annotations and task deep links. - Added bounded question validation and response handling. - Preserved native runner event projection from master. - Preserved legacy channel-less replies and explicit final reply precedence. - Preserved direct-adapter and classic-interface controls. - Did not change server execution selection, Rust code, migrations, workflows, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run UI tests, repository tests, typecheck, build, browser tests, security, and policy gates. - Tests cover active, settled, empty-transcript, interaction, queued-message, plan, question, file, document, and classic-interface states. - Compatibility tests cover direct adapters and native runner projection together. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check runner/remote-wss-transport...HEAD` passes. - The delta contains 119 UI-only files. ## Risks - This is a large task-page change. - Most files are new focused components and tests. - Shared transcript code keeps the lower native projection and legacy direct-adapter fallbacks. - Runner-only controls use adapter and runtime facts. - No execution path or rollout flag changes in this PR. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. feat(apps): add Composio and Gmail connectors (#12342)

feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries. > - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use case. > - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation. > - This pull request adds connection grants, identity rules, and their database contract. > - The benefit is durable control over which identity an agent may use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add company and user connection grants. - Add delegated identity and membership rules. - Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts. - Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in the same layer that mounts it. - Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` (5 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Incorrect grant selection could expose the wrong credential scope. - The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential use. - Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(apps): improve gateway and workspace connection UX (#12340)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - App connections must work in both the operator UI and agent tool gateway. > - The first stack layer adds secure remote connections. > - Operators still need clear setup, test, and recovery states. > - This pull request adds the gateway behavior and the workspace connection experience. > - The benefit is a connection flow that is easier to understand and recover. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 2 of 11. It depends on stack 1 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Improve remote tool gateway connection behavior. - Add clearer app setup, test, and recovery states. - Add focused server and UI tests for the new paths. - Keep the diff isolated from later identity and catalog work. - Stabilize DNS-pinned remote HTTP protocol fixtures and the managed-runtime public-origin fixture for this independently tested layer. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` (150 passed) - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Gateway errors now surface through new user-facing states. - A stale connection can require a new setup attempt. - The change does not add a database migration. - The injected HTTP transport and public URL are test-only fixtures; production DNS pinning and runtime behavior are unchanged. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. feat(onboarding): sign in to an agent provider during onboarding (#12440)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - New organizations create their first agent through the onboarding wizard > - The wizard does not show provider sign-in when a host credential is absent or unknown > - The create step also gives unclear feedback when the provider needs authentication > - This pull request adds a safe auth signal and a provider sign-in step for sandbox drivers > - The benefit is a clearer onboarding path with no token or account data in the signal ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (server API, shared types, and UI) **Problem or motivation** The onboarding wizard can fail when the selected provider needs authentication. It does not tell the person how to complete sign-in. **Proposed solution** Add a status-only provider auth signal. Show the sign-in panel for sandbox drivers when the signal says `absent` or `unknown`. Apply a stored Claude login to the new agent and block creation when the adapter test reports missing authentication. **Alternatives considered** The wizard could hide the sign-in panel when the signal read fails. This would hide a needed action, so this pull request shows the panel when the signal is unknown. **Roadmap alignment** The change supports the roadmap goal for scoped and audited credential bindings. **Additional context** The auth signal returns only `present`, `absent`, or `unknown`. It never returns a token, identifier, or account name. ## What Changed - Add `GET /api/companies/:companyId/adapters/:type/auth-signal` with company and permission checks. - Add shared auth-signal types and the UI query path. - Apply a stored Claude login by reference without reading its token. - Show the provider sign-in panel only for sandbox drivers with interactive terminal support. - Block agent creation when the provider test reports missing authentication. - Add route, wizard, and end-to-end test coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server test adapter-auth-signal-routes` passes 50 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui test OnboardingWizard` passes 69 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec tsc --noEmit` exits with code 0. - The `e2e_shards` lane runs `tests/e2e/onboarding.spec.ts`. ## Risks The route reads a host-local readiness signal. It returns `unknown` on read errors and never exposes credential data. The UI may add a sign-in step when the signal is unavailable. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, extended reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact context window was not provided. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g.

Remove the instance Heartbeats settings page (#12282)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Instance settings collect deployment-wide controls; one of them was the Heartbeats page, an instance-wide list of scheduler heartbeat agents with enable/disable toggles > - The same controls live on each agent's own configuration surface, so the standalone list duplicates them, and its framing no longer matches how heartbeat agents are managed > - Keeping a settings view that no longer makes sense costs every deployment navigation noise and maintenance > - This pull request removes the page, its route, its navigation entries, and its hidden-settings key for all deployments > - The benefit is a smaller, coherent settings surface, with operator hidden-settings lists that still mention the retired key continuing to work unchanged ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists; describing the issue inline per the enhancement template: **What existing behavior does this improve?** The instance settings surface — specifically the Settings → Heartbeats page, which listed scheduler heartbeat agents instance-wide with enable/disable toggles. The view no longer makes sense as a standalone settings page: the same controls are available on each agent's configuration surface, and the instance-wide list framing does not match how heartbeat agents are managed. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: `ui/` (page, route, navigation), `packages/shared` (settings-visibility registry), docs. **Current behavior** The page renders at `/company/settings/instance/heartbeats`, appears in the settings sidebar and tab bar, and is hideable by hosting operators via the `instance.heartbeats` key of `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS`. **Proposed behavior** The page, route, and navigation entries are removed for every deployment. The `instance.heartbeats` registry key is retired; operator lists that still send it are logged and ignored, so mixed-version fleets keep working. Remembered settings paths pointing at the old page remap to the settings root. Heartbeat APIs are unchanged. **Reason and benefit** A smaller, coherent settings surface with no duplicated controls; less navigation noise and maintenance for every deployment. **Breaking changes** None functional. Bookmarks and remembered paths to the removed page land on the settings root; `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` lists that still include `instance.heartbeats` log a warning and are otherwise honored unchanged. ## What Changed - Deleted `ui/src/pages/InstanceSettings.tsx` (the Heartbeats view) and its route in `ui/src/App.tsx`. - Removed the sidebar entry (`CompanySettingsSidebar`) and tab-bar item (`CompanySettingsNav`). - Removed `"/heartbeats"` from the remembered-settings-path allowlist; remembered heartbeats paths now remap to the settings root. - Retired the `instance.heartbeats` key from the shared settings-visibility registry and the environment-variables doc; documented that retired keys are ignored with a warning. - Dropped the now-unused UI client wrapper for the instance scheduler-agent list (`heartbeatsApi.listInstanceSchedulerAgents`); the server endpoint stays. - Removed the unused `schedulerHeartbeats` query key. ## Verification - `npx vitest run packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.test.ts ui/src/lib/instance-settings.test.ts ui/src/components/CompanySettingsSidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/access/CompanySettingsNav.test.tsx` — 24 tests passing. - Full `ui` vitest suite: 4426 tests, 4 failures — all in files this PR does not touch; 3 were load-induced timeouts that pass on rerun, and `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx` "renders instead of throwing when the browser denies storage access" fails identically on a clean master checkout (pre-existing). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` — clean. - Merged `master` to clear a conflict (see below) and re-ran the four focused suites (24 passing), `ui/src/App.test.tsx` and `ui/src/plugins/bridge.test.ts` (22 passing), and both typechecks — all clean. Full CI is green on the merge commit. ## Merge With master `master` gained the `company` → `organization` copy pass (#12243), which reworded strings inside `ui/src/pages/InstanceSettings.tsx` — the page this branch deletes — producing a modify/delete conflict. Resolved by keeping the deletion: the page is going away, so the rewording of its copy has nothing to apply to. Every other file merged cleanly, and `master`'s rewording in `App.tsx`, `App.test.tsx`, and `CompanySettingsSidebar.tsx` sits away from this branch's structural removals, so both changes survive. The net diff against `master` is unchanged from the pre-merge review: the same 13 files, 23 insertions, 330 deletions. ## Risks - Low. Pure removal of a UI surface; heartbeat data and APIs are untouched. Operators still listing `instance.heartbeats` in `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` get a warning log and otherwise unchanged behavior (covered by the registry's unknown-key handling). Bookmarks and remembered paths to the old page land on the settings root. ## Model Used Claude (Anthropic), model id `claude-fable-5`, extended thinking, agentic tool use via Claude Code. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

refactor(ui): key the company list by account (#11488)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Which companies a person belongs to is an authorization fact the server owns, and the UI caches the answer for speed > - It cached that answer under one `["companies"]` key with no account attached, while `main.tsx` sets `staleTime: 30_000` for every query > - So for thirty seconds after an account change, one person's list answered questions asked about another, arriving with no loading state and no error > - Three separate consumers each grew their own defense against this, and each was a place to forget one > - This pull request keys the entry by account, so a list belonging to someone else is not distrusted but unreachable > - The benefit is that the protection stops depending on every future consumer remembering to defend itself ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. Refs #11380, #11382, #11417, #11430. The problem follows. **What happened?** The company list lived in a single cache entry, `["companies"]`, carrying no record of which account it was fetched for. Combined with the app-wide 30s `staleTime`, any read within that window after an account change returned the previous account's list — from cache, with no request, no loading state and no error. Every consumer that treats the list as an authorization fact had to know this and defend itself: - `InviteLanding` reads it to decide whether you already belong to the inviting company (#11417). - `OnboardingWizard` reads it to decide whether a saved draft belongs to you (#11382, merged). - `CompanyProvider` reads it to pick and persist your active company (#11430). All three defenses are correct. The problem is structural: the fourth consumer has to invent a fourth one. **Expected behavior** A cached company list can only answer questions about the account it was fetched for. **Steps to reproduce** 1. On a self-hosted instance in `authenticated` mode, sign in as account A, which belongs to company X. 2. Within thirty seconds, have account B become the session in that tab — a second tab signing in, or A's session lapsing server-side. 3. Any consumer reading the company list receives A's list, and nothing in the query result indicates it is not B's. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `ac91b7f3b`, which includes #11430. ## What Changed - `ui/src/lib/queryKeys.ts` — `companies.list(userId)` replaces `companies.all` as the list's entry. `companies.all` remains the prefix, so it still matches for invalidation. - `ui/src/api/companies-query.ts` — `companyListQueryOptions(userId)` builds the keyed options; `useCompanyListQuery()` is the only observer entry point and holds until the session settles, because the key cannot be built before then; `fetchCompanyListForCurrentAccount(queryClient)` covers imperative paths; `useAccountIdentity()` exposes the session identity the key is built from. - `ui/src/api/companies-query.ts` — the `/companies` detach moved into the query function. - `ui/src/context/CompanyContext.tsx` — drops the session-watching refetch machinery the key now makes unnecessary (`removeQueries`, the explicit replacement fetch, the awaiting gate). It still clears the live selection on an account change, because that is component state and does not change key with the query. - `ui/src/pages/InviteLanding.tsx`, `ui/src/components/OnboardingWizard.tsx` — read through the account-aware API. - Tests — the account-keyed guarantee, prefix invalidation still reaching the list, the detach inside the query function, and updates where suites seeded the old shared key. ### The existing defenses are deliberately left in place The per-consumer gates in #11382, #11417 and #11430 are now belt and braces. They are also what will catch this refactor if it is wrong somewhere, so removing them in the same change that moves the foundation would be the wrong order. Simplifying them is a follow-up, once this has proven itself. ### Why `retry: 1` appears in CompanyProvider An earlier measurement on #11430 found a retry on the replacement fetch changed no outcome, because `removeQueries` made the observer rebind and issue a second request for free. Keying by account removes that mechanism and the free attempt with it. The retry now carries the property the incidental refetch used to — a single blip during an account change should not leave the customer with no companies until they find "Try again". #11430's test for that property is unchanged and still passes, which is how the gap was caught. ### A regression this went through, kept for the record Gating the query on the session settling meant that while the account was unknown the query was *disabled*, and a disabled query reports `isLoading: false` with no data — which the provider defaults to an empty list and reads as "asked, and owns nothing". That is the destructive branch #11477 had just fixed, reached through a different door: it would have cleared the customer's stored company on every cold boot. #11477's test caught it during the rebase. `useCompanyListQuery` now reports the wait for the account as part of the wait for the list. ### What this does not do It does not scope the rest of the per-account cache. `["companies", id]`, stats, and every other account-scoped entry still survive an account change; that is the cache-lifetime work in #11380. ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run` in `ui`: **4018 passed, 1 failed**. - `pnpm tsc -b` in `ui`: clean. - `companies-query.test.ts`: 6 passed. `CompanyContext.test.tsx`: 17 passed. `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`: 13 passed. `InviteLanding.test.tsx`: 13 passed. The failure is the pre-existing timezone-dependent `IssueProperties.test.tsx`, fixed by #11478. Two behaviours are asserted rather than assumed, because the refactor is only safe if they hold: that invalidating the `companies` prefix still marks the account-keyed list stale (19 call sites depend on it), and that the query function detaches the in-flight `/companies` request before fetching. **Not done:** no manual two-account run in a browser. The path needs two accounts on an `authenticated` instance, which a local dev instance cannot exercise. ## Risks Moderate, and worth reading before approving. **It touches `InviteLanding.tsx`, which #11417 also modifies**, so one of the two will need a rebase — the conflict is mechanical (both change how the same query is read). This was #11481, which GitHub closed automatically when its base branch (#11430's) was deleted on merge; reopening a pull request whose base branch is gone is not permitted, so it continues here against `master` with the same head and the same review already recorded on #11481. **The list now waits for the session query.** The key cannot be built before the account is known. In the app the session is already fetched at boot by many components, so this is a dependency rather than an extra request, but it does serialize: on a cold boot the list waits for the session to land. Every test that renders a company-list consumer now needs a session in the cache, which is why several suites gained a seed. **A missing mock surfaces as a passing gate rather than an error.** The detach inside the query function meant suites whose `companiesApi` mock lacked `detachInflightList` had their query function throw, which read as "decided" in the onboarding gate and mounted the wizard early. Fixed in the affected suites; worth knowing as a failure mode. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), through Claude Code. Extended thinking enabled. Remove decision training UI (#11225)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Decisions desk shows work that needs an operator response. > - It also exposed decision-training actions and a separate training library. > - Paperclip does not plan to use these training surfaces now. > - Keeping inactive controls makes the Decisions workflow harder to scan. > - This pull request removes the training UI and keeps the backend snapshot contract unchanged. > - The benefit is a smaller and clearer Decisions workflow without a data migration. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Decisions desk currently exposes training controls, training state, and a separate training library route. **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React and Vite board UI. **Current behavior** Operators can open a training library from the Decisions toolbar. They can also mark a decision for training from rows and inspect the result in a drawer. **Proposed behavior** Remove the training controls, badges, drawer, library pages, and routes from the Decisions UI. Keep the server APIs and stored training examples unchanged. **Reason and benefit** The product does not plan to use decision training now. Removing the unused surfaces reduces Decisions UI noise and avoids presenting a workflow that operators should not use. **Breaking changes** The `/decisions/training` UI routes are no longer registered. Existing server endpoints and stored decision-training data remain compatible. ## What Changed - Removed decision-training controls and state from Decisions toolbars, rows, queue pages, and shelves. - Removed the training drawer, library, inspector, API client, helpers, query keys, and routes. - Added route and row regressions that assert training UI does not return. - Updated the Decisions Storybook description to match the available controls. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/App.test.tsx ui/src/components/AttentionQueueRow.test.tsx` — 32 tests passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates clean. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — server and UI partitions passed. The CLI partition had one environment-only failure because this agent runtime injects static AWS credentials. The exact CLI file passed all 8 tests when those credential variables were unset. - Searched `ui/src` and `ui/storybook` for the removed training routes, drawer, library, badges, and actions. Only negative regression assertions remain. ## Risks - Low implementation risk. This change deletes UI-only entry points and does not change the database or server APIs. - Saved training-page URLs no longer render a board route. This is the intended behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, model `gpt-5.6-sol`, with `xhigh` reasoning. The runtime did not expose the context-window size. The agent used repository tools, shell execution, and automated tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(files): only highlight accessible workspace file links (#11090)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task comments can contain references to files in project and execution workspaces. > - Paperclip detected path-shaped inline code and showed it as an actionable file chip. > - The UI did not first confirm that the current board session could open the file. > - Missing, denied, ambiguous, remote, and unsupported files therefore looked actionable and failed after a click. > - This pull request adds an issue-scoped availability check and promotes only confirmed files to chips. > - The benefit is that the task thread shows a file action only when that action can succeed. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Task comments promoted path-shaped inline code to file chips before Paperclip checked the file. A chip could point to a missing, denied, ambiguous, remote, or non-previewable file. The action then failed after the user selected it. **Expected behavior** Paperclip must show a file chip only after the server confirms that the current board session can open the exact file reference. All other path-shaped text must stay ordinary inline code. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Add a task comment that contains inline code with a missing or inaccessible workspace path. 2. Open the task thread as a board user. 3. Observe that the path looks like an actionable file chip. 4. Select the chip and observe that the file cannot open. **Paperclip version or commit** `19be4cf927` and earlier. **Deployment mode** Local dev and self-hosted server. **Access context** Board user. ## What Changed - Added shared request, response, and validation contracts for batched workspace-file availability checks. - Added an issue-scoped server endpoint that resolves file references with company, issue, workspace, and preview-access checks. - Added bounded batch concurrency and tests for missing, denied, ambiguous, remote, unsupported, and available files. - Added an issue-scoped UI availability registry that deduplicates, batches, caches, and invalidates file checks. - Changed task-comment markdown rendering so only confirmed files get chip styling and file-viewer behavior. - Bound each chip to the exact workspace target that passed the availability check. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/workspace-file-resource.test.ts server/src/__tests__/file-resources.test.ts ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/components/WorkspaceFileMarkdownBody.availability.test.tsx ui/src/lib/remark-workspace-file-refs.test.ts ui/src/lib/workspace-file-availability.test.ts` — 93 passed, 35 skipped. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — clean. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — all server and UI groups passed. One unchanged CLI test saw the run-injected static AWS credentials and expected only its local `AWS_PROFILE`. The same test passed, 8 of 8, after removing only `AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID` and `AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY` from its process environment. ## Risks - File chips now appear after an asynchronous availability check, so path-shaped text can briefly render as inline code. - Availability results use the existing 30-second file-resource cache window. File-resource invalidation forces a new check. - The endpoint limits each request to 100 references and the client chunks larger sets. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(secrets): add human-approved secret proposals (#9934)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies. > - Agents can encounter credentials during work. > - Directly creating live secrets or bindings would bypass human governance. > - Proposal records must remain inert and separate from live secret resolution until an authorized human approves them. > - Approval must reuse the existing secret-create and protected agent-config write paths. > - This pull request adds the propose, review, approve, and reject lifecycle. > - The benefit is that agents can safely hand credentials into Paperclip without exposing plaintext or gaining authority to activate them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Follow-on to #9921, which established run-bound agent secret access. **Problem / motivation:** Agents can receive credentials during work. There is no governed way for them to propose a credential or binding without exposing plaintext in work artifacts or immediately creating live access. **Proposed solution:** Store agent-authored proposals outside live secret tables. Encrypt each proposed value and register exact-value redaction when Paperclip receives it. Require an authorized human to approve or reject each proposal. Approval executes through the normal write paths as the human approver. Binding proposals can target only the proposer or its downward reporting chain under the restrictive V1 policy. **Alternatives considered:** We rejected live secrets with a `proposed` status. That design would put untrusted rows in resolver, list, and sync paths. It would also allow uniqueness squatting. We rejected direct agent binding writes because a binding is an agent-config write and must keep the existing human permission gate. **Roadmap alignment:** This change extends the run-bound agent secret-access foundation in #9921 with a governed proposal workflow. ## Security Verdict Q0 SecEng verdict: **PASS-with-required-changes**. The review accepted the separate proposal-table design and required the implementation to: - fail closed unless both encryption and exact-value run redaction registration succeed; - scrub ciphertext idempotently on reject, withdraw, and expiry, with audit-visible state; - treat agent justification as hostile input and foreground action, target, provenance, and approver permissions; - snapshot and re-check the target agent plus reports-to chain at approval to prevent org-chart laundering; - make cascade approval atomic and fail closed if either secret creation or binding authorization fails; - deny low-trust, `skill_test`, `task_bridge`, and non-run-bound sources consistently; and - execute approval through the normal human secret/config write paths, including protected-change gates. Those requirements are implemented and covered by focused service, route, and UI tests. Residual V1 risk remains the accepted 14-day encrypted retention window. Proposal-time redaction also cannot clean a value that leaked before the propose call. ## What Changed - Added `company_secret_proposals`, migration `0207`, shared proposal contracts, and a state-machine service for create, approve, reject, withdraw, cascade, expiry, and ciphertext scrubbing. - Added run-bound agent proposal routes and board review routes. The routes derive provenance from authentication and enforce source restrictions, company isolation, chain-of-command checks, approval-as-approver, wake-on-resolution, and dual audit trails. - Added durable per-run exact-value redaction registration so proposal values remain redacted on later read surfaces. - Added the Secrets **Proposals** tab and agent configuration **Proposed access** rows. The UI shows fingerprint and length only. It also frames agent justification as untrusted input, runs permission preflight, supports approve and reject actions, and confirms cascades. - Updated OpenAPI, agent skill guidance, API reference documentation, and focused server and UI regression coverage. - Rebased the branch onto current `master` and renumbered the proposal migration after `0206`. ## QA Acceptance Results Q5 QA verdict: **PASS — 9/9 acceptance criteria met**, with one Minor non-blocking follow-up. - **AC1:** proposed values never echo, never appear in live lists/resolvers, and expose only fingerprint + length to board reviewers. - **AC2:** restrictive `self_and_reports` matrix passes: self/downward allowed; upward/lateral denied. - **AC3:** secret approval uses the normal create path, honors rename overrides, records proposer/approver provenance, and scrubs ciphertext. - **AC4:** approved bindings materialize and resolve through the target agent's runtime list/fetch routes. - **AC5:** pending-secret bindings require cascade; cascade succeeds atomically and permission failures leave nothing applied. - **AC6:** reject, withdraw, dependent rejection, and expiry paths scrub ciphertext and preserve reasons/audit state. - **AC7:** token/source and approver denial matrix passes through live checks plus focused route tests. - **AC8:** proposal lifecycle events and reused `secret.created`/config-write events form the required dual audit trail; origin-issue notification and wake are queued. - **AC9:** both review surfaces render and execute correctly; UI approval materializes the binding. QA also confirmed zero plaintext occurrences for all exercised proposal values in server logs. The single finding is that the company-level `bindingTargetPolicy` toggle is not wired yet. V1 is hardcoded to the restrictive `self_and_reports` policy. The matrix is correct and the follow-up is tracked separately, so QA classified it as non-blocking. ## Verification - Focused server proposal and redaction suite: 83 tests pass. - Focused proposal review UI suite: 54 tests pass. - Embedded-Postgres migration reapply test: 1 test passes with the documented 30-second timeout. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` passes, including migration numbering and safety checks. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` passes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passes. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes with all gates clean. - Q5 exercised the complete propose, review, approve, bind, and runtime-resolve flow over real HTTP, JWT, and database paths. It verified 9/9 acceptance criteria. ## Risks - Proposal ciphertext is retained encrypted for up to 14 days while pending. Terminal-state and expiry scrub paths reduce but do not remove server-compromise risk during that window. - The V1 target policy is restrictive but not yet company-configurable. A separate follow-up owns that change. - A new migration can require another renumber if another migration lands before maintainers merge this pull request. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed. The agent used reasoning, repository editing, terminal execution, Paperclip API, and GitHub CLI capabilities. Q3 UI work also records Claude Opus 4.8 assistance in its commit trailers. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(activity): add two-tier all-actors audit feed (#10831)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Operators need one activity feed for human, agent, plugin, and system changes > - The existing audit endpoint returns only rows that have agent attribution > - The full audit view also requires a dedicated permission > - This pull request adds an explicit all-actors scope with basic and privileged access tiers > - The benefit is that company members can inspect the shared activity history while sensitive attribution and export controls stay protected ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The company audit activity endpoint and the board audit route. **Subsystem affected** Server REST API and board UI routing/API contracts. **Current behavior** The agent-action audit endpoint excludes activity without an agent ID. It also rejects company members who do not have the full audit permission. **Proposed behavior** Callers can opt into `actorScope=all`. A company member receives all actor kinds with sensitive attribution fields removed. A permitted board user receives complete rows and can use attribution filters. The default scope and CSV permission remain unchanged. **Reason and benefit** The board needs one chronological activity source for user, agent, plugin, and system actions. A two-tier response keeps the feed useful without widening access to detailed attribution or export capabilities. **Breaking changes** None. The endpoint keeps the existing agent-only scope and permission behavior by default. ## What Changed - Added `actorScope=all` to the unified audit query and included activity from every actor type. - Added a company-readable basic tier that removes run, responsible-user, agent, and details attribution. - Kept attribution filters and CSV export behind `audit:view_agent_actions`. - Added route and integration coverage for basic readers, permitted readers, pagination, filter denial, and all actor kinds. - Added the missing unprefixed `/audit` redirect and company route classification. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/activity-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-action-audit-routes.test.ts ui/src/lib/company-routes.test.ts --reporter=verbose` (35 tests passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - The all-actors query can return more rows than the legacy agent-only query. Cursor pagination and existing limits bound each request. - The basic tier intentionally exposes action and actor-kind context. It removes detailed run, agent, responsible-user, and details attribution. - The legacy endpoint behavior remains the default, which reduces compatibility risk. > The roadmap marks activity log and action attribution as shipped. This change improves that existing capability and does not introduce a separate workflow system. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`, 114K context, agentic reasoning with tool use and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: make in-app features cloud-aware (#10850)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators use the same board application in self-hosted and Paperclip Cloud deployments. > - A Cloud tenant contains one company, so an in-app company switch does not change the active Cloud stack. > - Cloud operators need the sidebar and company surfaces to use the signed-in user's stack portfolio. > - The server must derive Cloud identity and links from trusted instance context instead of client input. > - This pull request adds canonical Cloud context, a trusted stack portfolio proxy, and Cloud-aware navigation. > - The benefit is consistent stack switching on Cloud while self-hosted company behavior stays unchanged. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: server REST routes and the React board UI. **Problem or motivation** A Cloud-managed instance contains one company. The existing company switcher could only switch records inside that tenant. It could not move the operator to another Cloud stack. The existing header also gave long organization names too little width. **Proposed solution** Expose a canonical public Cloud context in health data. Add a trusted server proxy for the current user's stack portfolio. Use that data in the board UI to switch stacks with top-level navigation. Keep the existing company behavior on self-hosted instances. Move search into the navigation and keep long organization names inside the sidebar panel. **Alternatives considered** An in-app `/stacks` route was rejected because Cloud tenant hosts reserve that path and stack selection must wake or authenticate another tenant. Client-supplied user identity was rejected because the server can derive the trusted Cloud actor. **Roadmap alignment** This change advances the Cloud deployments milestone. It keeps the product local-first and Cloud-ready without changing the self-hosted mental model. ## What Changed - Added canonical Cloud instance context and public health metadata. - Added a Cloud-only stack portfolio proxy with trusted actor forwarding and per-user caching. - Prevented normal company creation on Cloud-managed instances. - Switched the sidebar and Companies page from company actions to stack actions on Cloud. - Added full-page stack navigation and Cloud create-stack links. - Moved search into the sidebar navigation so the organization name keeps more width. - Added truncation and hover recovery for long organization and stack names. - Added server and UI regression coverage for Cloud and self-hosted behavior. - Updated the implementation specification for the Cloud contracts. ## Verification - `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs` passed. All three token gates are clean. - `pnpm --dir server exec vitest run src/__tests__/health.test.ts src/__tests__/cloud-instance.test.ts src/__tests__/cloud-routes.test.ts src/__tests__/company-cloud-floor.test.ts src/__tests__/company-portability-routes.test.ts` passed: 5 files and 66 tests. - `pnpm --dir ui exec vitest run src/components/SidebarCompanyMenu.test.tsx` passed: 1 file and 11 tests. - Pre-PR QA report `7da87ca7` passed all 8 acceptance criteria with real HTTP route factories and real Chromium screenshots in Cloud and self-hosted modes. - Security reviews passed for the canonical Cloud context and stack portfolio proxy. ## Risks - Cloud stack switching depends on the configured Cloud application and tenant portfolio URLs. - The new health `cloud` block is public by design, but it contains only canonical public instance metadata. - The stack proxy fails closed on self-hosted instances and derives the user identity from the trusted actor. - Self-hosted navigation and company creation retain their existing paths and behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, model `gpt-5`. The run used reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and GitHub integration. The deployment did not expose its context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(decisions): add desk workflow and retention (#10672)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The Decisions desk shows work that needs a human decision > - The queue foundation can group and rank decision work > - Operators also need a focused daily view and a safe way to handle old work > - This pull request adds the desk controls, the aging shelf, and reversible retention > - It also binds bulk archive decisions to the exact reviewed item set > - The benefit is a smaller daily queue without lost or orphaned work ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: server, UI, database, and shared contracts. **Problem or motivation** Decision work can grow into one large company list. Operators need quick queue and date controls. Old items also need a safe retention path that does not delete work. **Proposed solution** Add queue and date controls to the Decisions desk. Compute the aging shelf on the server. Archive idle items after 90 days unless an operator keeps them. Keep archived items searchable and revivable. Notify origin agents in one batch per sweep. Bind bulk archive proposals to a signed, exact item manifest. **Alternatives considered** Client-only aging can drift across browsers and source kinds. Deleting old rows removes audit and recovery paths. An unsigned dynamic bulk query can archive items that the reviewer did not inspect. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the Work Queues and decision-memory directions in `ROADMAP.md`. It extends the Decisions and attention-feed foundation from #10651. Related earlier work includes #9380, #10010, and #10474. ## What Changed - Added the queue rail, date chips, decide split, triage strip, queue page, and aging shelf UI. - Added server-owned shelf state with per-queue retention overrides. - Added reversible retention state, archive history, and an idempotent notification outbox. - Added the 90-day archive sweeper, Keep exemption, archived feed query, and revive actions. - Added one origin-agent notification per agent and sweep. - Added signed bulk archive proposals with exact-set and version checks. - Persisted queue-exclusion reasons atomically and kept cross-domain source resolution per-item until it has an exact-set transaction contract. - Added API contracts, OpenAPI entries, migration coverage, focused tests, and Storybook screens. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run` (server: 329 files and 3,453 tests passed; UI: 408 files and 3,362 tests passed) - `env -u AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID -u AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` - `pnpm build` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - Focused retention, attention, decisions, migration replay, startup, and UI API tests. - Complete queue snapshot regression with 51 items across the normal 50-item page boundary. The unmodified CLI test reports one warning assertion in this runtime because the harness injects static AWS credential variables. The isolated test passes when those two variables are removed. ## Risks - The migration adds retention and notification outbox tables. It uses idempotent table, index, and foreign-key creation. - Retention runs on the heartbeat scheduler interval. Compare-and-set version checks prevent stale archive writes. - Bulk archive acceptance fails closed when authority, activity, version, or the reviewed set changes. - Archive is reversible and does not delete source records. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with `gpt-5.6-sol`. The model used tool calls, code execution, database migration generation, and test execution. The context-window size is not exposed in this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(decisions): add first-class propose mode (#10010)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents can currently perform many mutations directly, while humans often need a durable review point before cross-issue or destructive actions occur > - Existing approvals and issue-thread interactions do not provide a standalone, reusable object for presenting options, collecting typed inputs, detecting stale targets, and auditing effect execution > - The control plane therefore needs a first-class propose mode that separates an agent's recommendation from the governed mutation it may cause > - This pull request adds Decisions v1 across the database, shared contracts, server execution and telemetry, agent skill guidance, and operator UI > - The benefit is that agents can propose multi-option actions safely while operators get explicit provenance, fail-closed execution, per-effect results, and a focused attention workflow ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Subsystem affected Cross-cutting: `packages/db`, `packages/shared`, `server`, and `ui`. ### Problem or motivation Agents need a governed way to propose consequential work without immediately mutating issues, especially when one choice can affect several issue trees. Existing approvals and issue-thread interactions do not provide a standalone object with typed options, target snapshots, effect-level authorization, expiration, execution outcomes, and reusable attention-feed presentation. ### Proposed solution Add first-class Decisions that store options and typed inputs, surface open proposals in the operator attention feed, validate target freshness and the origin-agent/operator authorization intersection at decision time, execute a bounded set of auditable effects, and retain terminal outcomes. Decisions v1 supports comments, status and assignee changes, follow-up issue creation, blocker resolution, and issue-tree cancellation, plus bundle grouping, expiration/dismissal, rule-key telemetry, and agent-facing API guidance. ### Alternatives considered - Extend approvals with arbitrary effects: rejected because approvals represent governed yes/no actions and would become an unsafe generic mutation envelope. - Model every proposal as an issue-thread interaction: rejected because decisions can span several targets and need independent lifecycle, telemetry, idempotency, and effect results. - Let agents perform the mutation and ask for retrospective review: rejected because it removes the pre-execution governance boundary this feature is meant to provide. ### Roadmap alignment Aligns with `ROADMAP.md` sections **Agent Reviews and Approvals**, **Enforced Outcomes**, **MCP Tool Gateway & Apps (governed tool access)**, and **Activity History** by making explicit decisions, authorization gates, auditable execution, and terminal outcomes first-class control-plane objects. ### Additional context This does not replace existing approvals or issue-thread interactions, and it does not add an unrestricted generic mutation effect. ## What Changed - Added company-scoped decision, option, target, and effect-execution schema plus migration and shared TypeScript/Zod contracts. - Added decision routes and services for propose, list/get, decide, dismiss, cancel, target freshness checks, authorization intersection, idempotency, activity logging, and execution auditing. - Added rule-key decision telemetry and attention-feed metadata so open decisions are visible and measurable. - Added agent skill documentation for proposing and resolving decisions through the Paperclip API. - Added the Decisions UI: API client, query keys, inline attention resolver, bundle grouping, target-issue strip, terminal history, destructive confirmation, and per-effect result rendering. - Added server service coverage, DecisionCard state tests, and Storybook stories for the supported visual states. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — 2,876 passed, 1 skipped, with one unrelated cross-suite cleanup-order failure in `heartbeat-responsible-user-invariant.test.ts`; the failing file passes in isolation (`6/6`). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-responsible-user-invariant.test.ts` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/DecisionCard.test.tsx` — passed (`9/9`). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/authz-existence-oracle-guard.test.ts src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` — passed (`5/5`). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/decisions-service.test.ts` — passed (`16/16`). - `pnpm --filter paperclipai exec vitest run src/__tests__/company-import-export-e2e.test.ts` — passed (`1/1`). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` and `pnpm --filter paperclipai typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - Rebased-head focused suite — passed (`6` files, `88` tests): shared decision contracts, Decisions service, OpenAPI routes, startup feedback export, DecisionCard states, and attention helpers. The follow-up stale-secondary-target regression passes in the DecisionCard suite (`10/10`). - Rebased-head scoped typechecks — passed for `@paperclipai/shared`, `@paperclipai/db`, `@paperclipai/server`, and `@paperclipai/ui`. - Rebased-head migration numbering and safety checks — passed after renumbering the additive migration to `0193` and making it replay-safe for environments that applied the earlier feature-branch number. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed with all gates clean. - GitHub PR workflow and Greptile review for `1f9f7645882d05dfdd9c99377c03a1f53f20e8be` — running after the stale-secondary-target fix and PR metadata refresh on July 27, 2026. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` exposes an existing Storybook version mismatch (`storybook` 10.4.6 vs `@storybook/addon-docs` 10.5.0); Decisions stories were validated with the docs addon temporarily disabled and the tracked config remains unchanged. ## Risks - **Migration:** Adds replay-safe migration `0193`; migration numbering and safety checks pass. The new tables and indexes are additive. - **Authorization:** Effect execution intersects the proposing agent's permissions with the responsible user context and fails closed; mistakes could reject a valid proposal rather than silently over-authorize it. - **Concurrency:** Target snapshots and idempotency keys protect against stale or duplicate execution, but reviewers should focus on mixed-effect partial outcomes and retry behavior. - **UI:** Decisions are integrated into the existing attention feed rather than a separate navigation surface, reducing routing risk but increasing the importance of attention-item metadata compatibility. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(audit): agent audit UI — company page + per-agent tab (#9744)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Operators need an audit record of agent actions across tasks, comments, documents, approvals, and runs > - The permission-gated audit read API provides that record, but operators cannot inspect it in the product > - A readable UI must preserve company boundaries, server-side permission decisions, and redaction > - Audit exports must also be safe to open in spreadsheet software and must record the export itself > - This pull request adds company and per-agent audit views plus a guarded CSV export > - The benefit is a searchable, filterable, and reviewable agent action history with direct links back to work ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Feature.** This change adds the frontend and CSV export for the agent action audit log. Refs #9731 and #9735. - Problem: agent actions are recorded, but operators have no readable product surface to inspect or export them. - Solution: add a company audit page and a per-agent Audit tab that use the permission-gated audit API. - Alternative: build a separate plugin-only surface. This was rejected because the existing permission model already supports a unified, server-authoritative view. This pull request targets the audit epic branch, which contains the merged #9735 audit API. ## What Changed - Added a company Audit page and sidebar entry. - Added a per-agent Audit tab with a fixed agent filter. - Added filters for agent, responsible user, action domain, entity type, and date range. - Added task and run links, responsible-user context, cursor pagination, and readable action text. - Added a permission-denied Enterprise card for callers without `audit:view_agent_actions`. - Added a CSV export that is permission-gated, capped, self-audited, CSV-escaped, and protected against spreadsheet formula injection. - Preserved the merged audit API cursor validation, redaction, and sub-millisecond pagination behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx` — 6 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/agent-action-audit-routes.test.ts` — 8 passed with embedded PostgreSQL. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed across all workspaces. - `pnpm build` — passed across all workspaces. - `pnpm test:run` — all completed shards passed except one environment-sensitive CLI assertion caused by injected static AWS credential variables; the exact test passes 8/8 with those variables unset. - Manual Chromium QA exercised the populated feed, active filters, permission-denied card, per-agent tab, and CSV export. ## Screenshots and Manual QA - [All audit states exercised in Chromium](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9744#issuecomment-4998997001) - [Detailed browser report and per-agent tab root cause](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9744#issuecomment-4998771061) The per-agent redirect defect found during QA is fixed in this branch. ## Risks Low to moderate risk. The UI and export route are additive and use the existing company-scoped permission gate. The main risks are large exports and spreadsheet interpretation. The export is capped at 10,000 rows, records truncation accurately, and prefixes formula-like cells as text. There are no schema changes or migrations. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Replace host-to-host Cloud Sync with full-fidelity company Import/Export (#10507)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - A company accumulates real state — issues, labels, blockers, documents, work products, monitors, attachments, agents, routines — and people need to move that state between instances: self-hosted to cloud, cloud back to self-hosted, or plain backups > - The experimental, flag-gated Cloud Sync transport (#6548) tried to solve this host-to-host: the source pushed into a receiver over HTTPS with a cross-instance consent/token handshake, which required the destination to be publicly reachable and broke for common self-hosted topologies (plain-HTTP LAN/VPN origins); the receiver half never landed upstream at all > - Meanwhile the portability bundle and the existing export/import pages already move companies offline with none of those networking constraints — but silently dropped labels, blockers, issue documents, work products, monitors, and every attachment > - This pull request removes the host-to-host transport and makes Import/Export the single data-movement path: the pages become first-class company-settings destinations, exports declare exactly what they do not carry, and bundle schemaVersion 6 now carries all of the above, with attachments as content-addressed sha256 blobs verified before a single row is written > - The benefit is a migration and backup flow that works between any two instances with no reachability requirements, no cross-instance auth, and no silent data loss ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #6548 — the original Cloud Sync sender this PR supersedes and removes. - Related, not duplicates: #1697 (goals in the portability manifest — orthogonal field addition), #954 (an earlier import/export + skill-visibility proposal predating the current portability bundle). - No open issue describes this directly, so in brief (feature-request shape): **Problem** — moving a company between instances silently lost labels (imports with label references actually hard-failed), blocker relations, issue documents, work products, monitor state, and all attachments, and the alternative Cloud Sync transport required the destination to be publicly reachable over HTTPS plus a consent handshake, which failed for typical self-hosted setups. **Desired behavior** — one Import/Export flow in company settings that produces a portable bundle carrying all of that data, tells the operator up front what it cannot carry, imports with automations paused, and offers real one-click activation afterwards. ## What Changed - New export fidelity report (`GET /api/companies/:companyId/export/fidelity`) + an "Export fidelity" panel on the Export page listing anything a bundle will not include (now only: approvals, cost history, activity history) - Imports accept `pauseAutomations`; imported agents and routines land paused, the import result reports created routines, and the Import page ends in an activation panel that actually resumes selected agents/activates routines - Export and Import pages promoted into the company-settings nav; the Cloud Upstream wizard, ux-lab page, and API client removed; the old settings route redirects to Export - Host-to-host transport removed: upstream-sync/receiver-client routes and services, CLI `cloud connect`/`cloud push` + keypair store, the shared upstream transfer contract, and the `enableCloudSync` flag; migration `0196` drops the two experimental `cloud_upstream_*` sender tables - Bundle schemaVersion 6: labels (definitions + per-task names, remapped by name on import), blocker relations (`blockedBy` slugs, cycle-tolerant), issue documents (`tasks/<slug>/documents/<key>.md`), work products (system refs nulled), monitors (notes/scheduledBy restored, imported un-armed) - Attachments travel as content-addressed `blobs/<sha256>` entries (deduped; comment-scoped attachments re-link via comment index); every blob is hash-verified **before any write**, so a corrupted bundle cannot leave a partially imported company; both zip codecs now round-trip extensionless/binary entries byte-exactly; the Import page preflights the inline body limit and offers continue-without-attachments - v5 (and older) bundles still import, with an informational warning; bundles newer than v6 are rejected cleanly - Docs: board-operator import/export guide, CLI README, README/ROADMAP updated ## Verification - `pnpm -r` typechecks (shared, db incl. migration numbering/safety checks, server, ui, cli) and `pnpm check:token-gates` — clean - Vitest: full server + shared sweep 4,888 passed / 1 skipped, with the only 3 failures being pre-existing on `master` (2× heartbeat-workspace-branch-containment, 1× workspace-runtime auto-port; reproduced identically with this change stashed); ui + cli suites green; the embedded-Postgres export-fidelity suite applies the full migration chain including the new `0196` against a fresh database - Live end-to-end on a scratch instance: seeded a company with labels, a blocker pair, an issue document, a work product, a monitor, an agent, a routine, and two binary attachments (one comment-scoped) → export → import into a fresh company → labels remapped to new ids, blocker edge and document restored, monitor un-armed with notes intact, attachments byte-identical (sha256-compared through the API), agents/routines paused → activation panel resumed them; a v5-shaped bundle imported with only the info warning; flipping one byte in a blob made the import 422 with **zero** rows created - Reviewer repro: create a company with a labeled issue + attachment → Settings → Export → download → Settings → Import on another company/instance → watch the preview, apply with "start paused", then activate ## Risks - Migration `0196` drops `cloud_upstream_connections`/`cloud_upstream_runs` — experimental tables behind a default-off flag; their connection/run history is intentionally discarded - Breaking removals are all of experimental, flag-gated surface: `/api/upstream-sync/*` + `/api/cloud-upstreams/*` routes, `paperclipai cloud connect|push`, and the `enableCloudSync` flag (stale keys in stored instance settings parse harmlessly) - Import remains non-atomic on mid-apply errors generally (pre-existing behavior); the new blob verification specifically moved ahead of all writes so tampered bundles cannot create partial state - GitHub-sourced imports do not fetch `blobs/*` and skip attachments with a warning ## Model Used - Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic), via Claude Code CLI with extended thinking, tool use, and subagent orchestration; implementation and review split across Fable 5 subagents, with live end-to-end verification against a running instance ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(status-cards): add experimental status card update view (#10101)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies. > - Operators need a board-level way to monitor a changing slice of company work without repeatedly rebuilding filters or reading raw task threads. > - Existing summaries are useful snapshots, but they do not provide a dedicated query-backed card with refresh policy, change tracking, update history, and per-update cost visibility. > - The capability needs to be safe to evaluate before it becomes part of the default product surface. > - This pull request adds end-to-end experimental Status Cards, from schema and query compilation through update orchestration and operator UI. > - The entire feature is gated behind the `enableStatusCards` experimental toggle, including its route and sidebar entry. > - The benefit is a governed, inspectable way to keep focused operational rollups current while preserving explicit controls over refresh frequency and spend. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Subsystem affected Cross-cutting (`packages/db`, `packages/shared`, `server/`, `ui/`, and bundled skills/docs). ### Problem or motivation Operators cannot currently define a reusable natural-language view of company work, compile it into an inspectable query, and keep its summary current as matching issues change. Rebuilding filters and rereading task threads makes board-level monitoring repetitive and hides the relationship between source changes, refresh cost, and the resulting summary. ### Proposed solution Add experimental Status Cards that compile operator intent into a query, summarize matched work, record each update, expose manual/interval/reactive refresh policies and costs, and preserve the last good result across stale, updating, paused, and error states. The capability is off by default and fully gated behind `enableStatusCards`, including its route and navigation entry. ### Alternatives considered - Extend existing one-off summaries: rejected because status cards require persistent query provenance, refresh policy, update history, and card-specific cost controls. - Add a dashboard-only filter widget: rejected because it would not provide governed background refresh, an update ledger, or an inspectable compile pipeline. - Ship the surface by default: rejected in favor of an experimental toggle while behavior and operator value are evaluated. ### Roadmap alignment This advances Paperclip’s board-level execution visibility and output-first product goals. `ROADMAP.md` was checked and no duplicate status-card initiative was found. ### Additional context No related open PR was found in the public GitHub search for status cards. The PR-only design wireframes were removed from the repository after review; the published prototype remains external to the production source tree. ## What Changed - Added company-scoped status-card schema, CRUD APIs, compile provenance, update ledger, shared contracts, validators, and OpenAPI coverage. - Added the text-to-query compile pipeline, bundled `status-card-query` agent skill, query versioning, and authorized write-back flow. - Added the experimental board, create flow, lifecycle tiles, detail/settings/debug drawers, archived view, routing, navigation, and instance setting. - Added a change-gated update engine with manual, interval, and reactive refresh policies, trigger selection, active hours, and daily token caps. - Added per-update token/cost recording, today and lifetime rollups, and policy-derived cost previews. - Added operator documentation and agent-authoring hardening for compile and update behavior. - Added PR-prep integration coverage for settings/startup wiring and replaced raw UI values with design-system tokens. - Removed the PR-only `design/pap-15023-status-cards` wireframe artifacts so the repository contains only production feature assets. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passes on the PR head; includes `ui` `tsc -b` passing. The UI compile gate was also independently recorded as passing at `6d7f3cf96b` on July 23, 2026. - `pnpm build` — passes. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passes with all three gates clean. - `pnpm test:run` — 2,880 tests passed and 1 skipped; the sole failure was an unrelated 10-second `afterAll` database-cleanup timeout in `execution-workspaces-service.test.ts`. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-service.test.ts` — passes on immediate focused rerun (25/25). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/instance-settings-service.test.ts src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` — passes (31/31). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/StatusCards/StatusCardSettingsForm.test.tsx src/pages/StatusCards/StatusCardTile.test.tsx src/pages/StatusCards/format.test.ts src/lib/status-card-state.test.ts` — passes (26/26). - Recorded pre-PR QA: compile-pipeline e2e PASS; full lifecycle and cost QA PASS; security re-review PASS after write-back hardening; UX approved. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/db/src/status-card-migrations.test.ts` — passes; reapplies migrations `0185`–`0189` against an already-migrated embedded Postgres database. - `pnpm --filter /db check:migrations` — passes migration numbering and safety checks. - `pnpm --filter /db typecheck` — passes. - Merged current `origin/master` on July 24, 2026 with no conflicts; migrations `0185`–`0189` remain unclaimed on master. ## Risks - The feature introduces five database migrations and a new background update path; all new DDL is repeat-safe after partial application, migration numbering/safety checks pass, and update execution is company-scoped and change-gated. - Natural-language compilation can produce invalid or overly broad queries; compile provenance, query validation, debug visibility, and version history make failures inspectable and recoverable. - Reactive or interval refresh could increase spend; active hours, max refresh frequency, daily token caps, per-update cost records, and budget-paused states bound and expose that risk. - The branch name contains an internal execution identifier because it is a fixed handoff branch; it was intentionally not renamed or rebased per the release handoff instructions. - Overall rollout risk is limited because the route, navigation, services, and UI are disabled by default behind `enableStatusCards`. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex using GPT-5.5 with reasoning, repository tool use, shell execution, GitHub CLI, and test/build execution. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change; the fixed execution-workspace identifier is documented as an authorized handoff exception - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass, with the one cleanup timeout passing on focused rerun - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: restore decision training library and inspector (#9779)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI-agent companies and supervise governed work. > - Decisions capture high-value operator judgment, and the decision-training foundation merged in #9702 freezes that evidence for later evaluation and learning. > - Operators still need the UI from the closed stacked PR #9718 to intentionally capture examples and inspect the resulting dataset. > - GitHub automatically closed #9718 when its stacked base branch was deleted after #9702 merged, leaving the server foundation on `master` without the corresponding UI. > - This pull request restores the final UI and its still-required supporting API fields directly on current `master`, while excluding the obsolete migration and duplicated server-foundation diffs. > - The benefit is a reviewable replacement PR that preserves the completed decision-training workflow without replaying stale stack history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #9718 - Refs #9702 ## What Changed - Restored the top-level `/training` library and record inspector with search, filters, JSONL export, notes editing, and evidence tabs. - Restored the Decisions-row training affordance and capture drawer, including preview, provenance, deletion, cache refresh, and approval consistency behavior. - Restored the shared types and focused server support needed by the UI without reintroducing decision-training migrations or the already-merged server foundation. - Restored focused UI and attention-service tests from the final #9718 state. - Credit to the authors and reviewers of #9718; this recovery transplants their final reviewed delta after the stacked base deletion. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/Training.test.tsx ui/src/components/DecisionTrainingDrawer.test.tsx ui/src/components/AttentionQueueRow.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/attention-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/decision-training.test.ts` — 5 files, 48 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` — 3 tests passed; confirms exact route/OpenAPI parity for the restored preview endpoint. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — the restored files are clean; the repository-wide command currently reports five pre-existing false positives where comments reference GitHub issue `#9627` as if it were a color literal. ## Risks - Low migration risk: this PR contains no database migrations and is based directly on current `master`. - The main behavioral risk is cache invalidation across Decisions and Training views; focused tests cover capture, update, deletion, row state, and approval refresh behavior. - The token-gate baseline remains red on unrelated `#9627` comment references; this PR does not modify those files. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat: add built-in summarizer and summary slots (#9713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to organize, govern, and understand AI-agent work > - Operators need concise, current status views across projects and execution workspaces without manually reading every issue and run > - Paperclip already has auditable issues, documents, built-in agents, routines, and live run events, but no first-class summary-slot workflow connecting those systems > - A built-in Summarizer can generate status prose through ordinary governed tasks while summary slots provide stable, revisioned destinations for that output > - The UI needs to show current summaries, generation progress, failures, revisions, and streaming draft status in the places operators already work > - This pull request adds the end-to-end summary-slot data, API, agent, orchestration, and UI surfaces behind an experimental setting > - The benefit is decision-oriented status context that remains company-scoped, auditable, retryable, and inexpensive by default ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. **Problem** Operators currently have to reconstruct project and workspace status by reading many issues, runs, and comments. This makes it hard to identify decisions, review queues, recent work, and the next event worth watching. **Proposed capability** Add an experimental summary system with revisioned summary slots for projects and workspaces, a paused-by-default built-in Summarizer agent, governed generation tasks, live draft status, and reusable UI cards. **Expected behavior** - Summary data remains company-scoped and revisions remain auditable. - Generation runs through normal issue/agent orchestration and deduplicates active requests. - Only the linked built-in Summarizer generation task can author a slot revision. - Operators can generate, retry, inspect revisions, and follow draft progress from project and workspace views. - The feature remains opt-in and background generation remains paused by default. ## What Changed - Added summary-slot schema, idempotent migrations, shared contracts, validators, API paths, and service tests. - Added company-scoped summary-slot routes for reading revisions, requesting generation, and guarded Summarizer writes with activity logging. - Added terminal generation finalization, failure reasons, assignment wakeups, and orchestration integration. - Added the paused-by-default built-in Summarizer bundle, low-cost runtime defaults, status-summarization skill, and stale-summary routine. - Added summary cards, revision selection, retry/configuration states, live draft streaming, transcript chunk handling, and project/workspace integrations. - Updated Claude local parsing for streamed status output and expanded server, adapter, shared, database, catalog, and UI coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/db/src/summary-slots-schema.test.ts packages/shared/src/summary-slot.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slot-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slots.test.ts server/src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.status.test.tsx ui/src/components/useSummaryDraftStream.test.tsx ui/src/lib/summary-draft-stream.test.ts ui/src/lib/run-log-chunks.test.ts ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.hook.test.tsx` — 113 tests passed - `pnpm test:run` — server and UI suites passed; one CLI AWS doctor test was affected by inherited `AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID`/`AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY`, and passed when those host credentials were removed - `pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` with inherited AWS credential variables removed — 8 tests passed - `pnpm build` - `pnpm check:token-gates` currently reports nine `#9627` comment references introduced by current `master`; none are in this PR diff ## Risks - Database risk is limited by incrementally ordered, idempotent migrations and migration safety checks. - Summary generation creates normal issues/runs, so misconfiguration can produce failed slots; the UI exposes retryable failure reasons and agent configuration entry points. - Streaming draft parsing depends on the documented `STATUS:` protocol; final persisted revisions remain the source of truth. - The feature is experimental, opt-in, and its built-in routine is paused with no background token spend by default. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR.
