feat(connections): add verified MCP providers and setup fixes (#15621)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give agents governed access to external tools. > - Several provider MCP servers lacked a supported catalog entry or failed during setup. > - Real browser tests identified specific registration, session, and form defects. > - This pull request adds seven catalog entries and fixes the shared paths used by eleven verified providers. > - Users can connect these providers through the existing Apps flow and control each action. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Apps catalog and remote MCP setup, discovery, and action tester. **Subsystem affected** Shared app definitions, the server tool services, and the Apps UI. **Current behavior** Seven providers lack a catalog entry. Airtable can select an advertised client-metadata flow that fails. Calendly rejects the registration name. Tavily needs an initialized session before a call. Firecrawl exposes invalid defaults for optional nested form objects. HTTPS setup can display a callback that differs from the server callback. **Proposed behavior** Add Calendly, Exa, Firecrawl, GSC Wizard, Parallel Search, Tavily, and Windsor.ai. Preserve Airtable, Linear, Make, and PostHog. Use reviewed provider options through the shared MCP and OAuth paths. Display the callback supplied by the server. Omit untouched optional object inputs. **Reason and benefit** Eleven providers passed bounded reads through the real Paperclip browser action tester. This PR includes that verified set and its required shared fixes. Unfinished providers remain outside this change. AgentMail keeps its existing integration. **Breaking changes** No database migration. Existing OAuth credentials and action policies keep their ownership and access rules. Airtable's reviewed method re-registers a retained client-metadata binding through DCR. Tavily's reviewed method initializes sessions before dispatch. The existing customer, managed, and Vercel OAuth gateway paths now refresh on upstream 401 and return `oauth_refreshed_retry_required` (409), requiring an explicit caller retry. They do not replay the rejected call automatically; the next invocation initializes a fresh credential-scoped session when required. Related catalog work: #15545. This branch preserves current master catalog entries and does not add another Google Workspace integration. Open and closed provider PRs and public MCP issues were searched. No duplicate for this verified set was found. The change extends the shipped Connected Apps roadmap item. ## What Changed - Add seven catalog entries with official provider branding and reviewed permissions. - Update Airtable, Linear, and Make metadata and show Make in Apps. - Add authoritative provider source overrides that use the existing generation and review checks. - Add the reviewed Airtable DCR option and compatible Calendly registration names. - Initialize Tavily sessions before discovery and calls, including retained connections. Keep credential-scoped session caching and single call dispatch. - Use the server's callback URL in the OAuth setup UI. - Omit untouched optional object defaults; keep supplied empty strings, false, zero, and object values intact in the action tester, with strict required-child validation. - Require an explicit retry after OAuth refresh instead of replaying a tools/call with missing session headers. - Record all eleven successful reads, write policies, auth-method limits, and qualification caveats. Omit credentials and private account data. - Find chat connector cards through catalog search in browser tests, so pagination does not hide Slack or other later entries. ## Verification - Real browser qualification: eleven bounded reads passed. Catalog refresh and reload proof are recorded in `doc/connections/verified-mcp-qualification-2026-10-08.md`. - Provider writes and actual agent-adapter sessions were not run. Alternative documented auth methods and expiry refresh remain unqualified. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - Focused shared/catalog tests: 41 passed. Source override tests: 3 passed. Catalog regeneration fixture suite: 9 passed. Latest form regression suites: 31 passed. Gateway suite: 38 passed. Other focused UI suites passed before these last fixes. - UI token gates and both token sync checks: passed. - The catalog regeneration fixture includes the authoritative provider overrides; its full suite passes. The focused OAuth socket case passed on isolated rerun. - Complete local UI suite: 7,866 passed. CLI suite: 511 passed, 6 skipped. Complete shared suite: 892 passed. - The unchanged AgentMail/ClickUp discovery fallback suite passes all 45 cases. An OpenAI login test passed on isolated rerun. - Local broad database coverage is limited by macOS PostgreSQL shared-memory exhaustion (`shmget: No space left on device`, not disk space). The broad run was interrupted after diagnosis; no host settings or other running services were changed. - CI found that the Slack browser test assumed its catalog card was on the first page. The test now uses catalog search; the Slack case passes locally. Adjacent GitHub and iMessage cases could not start locally because embedded PostgreSQL initialization failed before browser assertions. - Final commit [`febe4520e`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/febe4520e13d4b3a4121eafc3d22540c2b11379d): all 54 checks passed, with none pending or failed. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37847182065) passed typecheck, build, all general and serialized test suites, all eight browser shards, runner checks, canary dry run, and the aggregate verification gate. - Greptile reviewed that exact final commit at 2026-10-08 21:33 UTC and returned 5/5 with no outstanding findings or unresolved threads. - PR UI preview against the existing local test server: Calendly catalog/setup observed; Firecrawl read passed after expanding More options with nested optional inputs untouched. This retest proves frontend behavior, not the revised OAuth backend against a live provider. <details> <summary>Browser evidence</summary> </details> ## Risks - Provider registration and consent behavior can change. Airtable's DCR option is explicit and keeps the existing issuer, resource, redirect, and PKCE checks. - Tavily uses initialized sessions without automatic call retries. After a successful OAuth refresh following 401, callers now receive a retry-required result. A later explicit retry can still require reauthorization if the provider rejects the refreshed token. Provider writes are not live-qualified. - Optional object cleanup affects the shared action tester. Regression tests cover absent objects, required children, defaults, and populated values. - GSC Wizard's underlying Google data scopes and Google flow completion were not independently verified. Its account reported paid/trial metadata of unknown origin. No purchase was performed. - No database migration, new AgentMail integration, or change to existing action grants is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with implementation, research, tool use, and code execution. The root backend model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The cheaper subagents used OpenAI `gpt-6-luna`. No model context size is inferred. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — targeted checks and complete UI/CLI/shared suites passed; the broad local database run was blocked by the macOS PostgreSQL startup limitation documented above. feat(apps): add experimental MCP aggregator connectors (#13755)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tool gateway applies company access rules and approval controls to connected apps. > - MCP aggregators expose many apps through one provider endpoint. > - Each aggregator needs its own credential, catalog, grants, and lifecycle in Paperclip. > - This pull request adds independent Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor setup with a common Access → Connect layout. > - A default-off MCP aggregators flag lets operators opt in while we complete provider acceptance tests. > - Agents use the normal Paperclip permissions, Test screen, and gateway after setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Apps, connection setup, shared contracts, and the remote MCP gateway. **Problem or motivation** Aggregator endpoints need clear provider setup and correct MCP sessions. Generic setup does not explain each provider's authentication or broad execution tools. Provider approval must preserve the original execution instead of replaying a write. **Proposed solution** Add four separate connectors behind Settings → Experimental → MCP aggregators. Start with human and agent access, then connect the endpoint and read its tools. Enable tools by default. Use the existing Permissions and Test screens after setup. Keep legacy Composio API-key and child connections intact. **Alternatives considered** A shared connection for all providers would mix credentials and access rules. Separate provider-specific permission and test screens would duplicate existing controls. Vercel Connect is outside this change. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps capability and the Connected Apps roadmap area. This work was requested and reviewed by the maintainer. Related work: #11894, #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906 concern the legacy Composio broker. #13102 also covers remote MCP pagination. This change preserves the broker path and adds initialized sessions, response matching, and provider resume handling alongside pagination. ## What Changed - Add branded setup and interactive Storybooks for Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor. Use the existing access controls and normal action tests. Do not request a connection name or action choices during setup. - Add the default-off `enableMcpAggregators` flag to settings, managed feature metadata, the catalog, and setup guards. Hidden connections keep running. Legacy Composio connections remain unchanged. - Reuse the vault, grants, policy, and catalog models. Support OAuth discovery, bearer tokens, custom headers, and credential-bearing URLs. Add no database tables or migrations. - Initialize and retain Streamable HTTP sessions by connection and effective credentials. Read paginated catalogs and match streaming responses to request IDs. - Classify unfamiliar aggregator tools as writes despite upstream read-only hints; only exact reviewed read capabilities enter the read-only allowlist. Legacy Composio child behavior is preserved. - Preserve provider authorization links and execution IDs. Support Executor approve/resume, decline, and cancel without automatic replay of uncertain writes. - Preserve Off and Ask first choices during refresh and reconnect. Allow new tools and retire removed tools. Keep agent access updates atomic and preserve an empty agent selection. - Document connector UX rules, provider branding sources, and live acceptance results. - Stabilize the existing Sentry release fixture after its repeated CI failure by reusing one module mock; production Sentry behavior is unchanged. ## Verification - Final head `d11781970`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35633534900) passed, including broad typecheck, test shards, build, and E2E. All 54 checks pass; 2 optional checks are skipped. Greptile is 5/5, Security Scan passes, and all review threads are resolved. - Passed 27 focused connector Vitest checks and 18 connector-only Storybook browser checks before the flag change. All 85 stories rendered at desktop and narrow widths. - Passed 5 connector lifecycle/server checks and 7 selected flag checks after adding the flag. The latter cover settings, managed defaults, cached catalog visibility, and all four setup routes. - Review fixes passed 13 risk/handoff/lifecycle checks, dedicated session-expiration and transport regressions, 13 selected connector/gateway CI cases, and 10 selected setup/reconnect UI cases. A real Composio connection-list call also succeeded through the refreshed UI on `9ab115f71`. - UI and server TypeScript checks passed. UI build, Storybook build, token gates, and diff whitespace checks passed during implementation. - Real browser and real Paperclip agent tests passed for Arcade, Composio, and Executor. Tested action permissions, denied agent access, reconnect, disconnect, and isolation. Tested Arcade catalog additions/removal and Executor provider approve/resume, decline, and cancel. - Zapier live acceptance is incomplete. Its dedicated provider server is configured, but its credential-copy dialog returned an empty clipboard through browser automation. No live Zapier action is claimed. - The three isolated Sentry release cases pass after the CI fixture fix. - Local verification is deliberately narrow at the maintainer's request. The full local suite, recursive typecheck, and repository-wide build were not run. CI provides the broader checks. ## Risks - Shared MCP transport changes affect other remote MCP servers. Protocol fixtures cover initialized sessions, streaming response matching, pagination, and isolation. - Broad execution tools remain broad permissions. The provider governs actions inside those tools. - Provider handoff links are retained briefly in memory. After a server restart, a one-time link may require reopening the provider dashboard. Paperclip does not replay the original call. - Zapier remains unproven live. Custom-header imports and self-hosted endpoints have fixture coverage rather than a separate live account for every variant. - Turning the experimental flag off hides setup; it does not revoke existing credentials or stop existing connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. A separate Anthropic-backed Paperclip agent performed live gateway acceptance tasks. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(mcp) [split 6/8]: add Tools and Profiles UI foundation (#9561)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 6/8 and focuses on UI API, shared components, and Tools/Profile surfaces > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: Operators need typed clients and administration surfaces that compile independently before navigation exposes them. - Proposed solution: Adds UI APIs, hooks, libraries, shared components, Tools/Profiles pages, and the plugin settings consumer required by the new company-scoped API. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/05-runtime-integration`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: UXDesigner sanity pass on Tools/Profile surfaces; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds UI APIs, hooks, libraries, shared components, Tools/Profiles pages, and the plugin settings consumer required by the new company-scoped API. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates clean - Focused UI Vitest run with `NODE_ENV=test` — 28 files, 183 tests passed ## Risks - Large dead-code UI additions can drift from activation routes; PR 7 supplies the registration layer and top-level parity catches omissions. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5.4`; runtime-managed context window; medium reasoning with repository, shell, Git, GitHub CLI, and code-execution tools enabled. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] Internal references are omitted except the execution-plan link explicitly required for this coordinated split stack - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge ## Stack Coordination - Internal execution plan: [PAP-13874](/PAP/issues/PAP-13874#document-plan) - Parity reference: #9534 - Stack: #9556 → #9557 → #9558 → #9559 → #9560 → #9561 → #9562 → #9563 - Merge bottom-up only after full-stack review and an empty parity diff at #9563. ## UI Evidence QA captured these from the live Garden MCP split stack at 1440px and verified clean rendering: --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets, agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind > - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at ~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no visual regression coverage > - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration > - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs > - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface: retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed visually without committing hundreds of PNGs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens", "visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of the same problem class this PR addresses systematically). **Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage; consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file edits. **Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate + externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle on top of that foundation. ## What Changed - **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved ~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`. - **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255 stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`, plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes. - **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed. `tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs` handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload` flows. - **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`, downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate baseline objects. - **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**` and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate opt-outs. - **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` + Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps. - **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills, RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical `--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces that used dark-tuned text classes. - **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form, second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified. - **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline review/update workflows. - Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames (`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`). ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system run - `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green during the design-system run - `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` — pass after external-baseline rework - `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext --moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after external-baseline rework - `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline rework - `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` — `0` - `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json` ## Risks - **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot churn has been removed from the branch. - **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata. A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then update `baseline-manifest.json`. - **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count mismatch. - **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual` label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable Playwright report/test-result artifacts. - **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository, terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run targeted local verification and documented the intentional baseline-publication failure above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green *(pending new CI run after this rework)* - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups *(pending review)* - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and OpenAI Codex --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(daytona): valid memory input in env config form + size presets (#8389)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Environments are configured through a JSON-schema-driven form (`JsonSchemaForm`), and each sandbox provider (here, Daytona) supplies a manifest describing its fields > - In the Daytona environment config form, the "memory" field rendered as a free-text input; on save the value round-tripped to `0`, producing a server-side "number must be greater than zero" error even when the user typed a valid number like `2` > - Rather than patch the free-text input, memory is now a true dropdown of the sandbox sizes Daytona actually supports, so an invalid value can no longer be typed or coerced > - The dropdown leads with a blank "None" row that is selected by default (meaning "not configured — use Daytona's defaults"); `0` is never offered because it is not a valid configuration > - The benefit is that operators pick a valid memory size from a constrained list, it saves correctly as an integer, and leaving it unset cleanly omits the field instead of submitting `0` ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists; describing the bug inline per the bug report template. ### What happened? In the Daytona environment configuration form, the memory field is a free-text input labelled "gigabytes of RAM". Entering a value such as `2` and saving coerced the value to `0`, and the server rejected the save with "the number must be greater than zero". There was no way to enter a valid memory size through the form. ### Expected behavior Selecting a valid memory size (e.g. `2`) keeps that value and saves cleanly as an integer. Leaving memory unset is valid and submits no value (Daytona defaults apply). `0` is never selectable. ### Steps to reproduce 1. Open the environment configuration form for a Daytona sandbox provider. 2. In the memory field, type `2`. 3. Click Save. 4. Observe the value becomes `0` and the form errors with "the number must be greater than zero". ## What Changed - Daytona manifest: `memory` is now an `enum` of the supported sandbox sizes `[1, 2, 4, 8]` (GiB). It stays optional, so "not configured" remains valid. `0` is not in the list. - `JsonSchemaForm` `EnumField`: optional enums now render a leading blank **None** row that is selected by default when no value is set, letting the user express "not configured" and clear a previous selection (Radix `Select` forbids an empty-string item value, so the unset state maps to a sentinel that translates back to `undefined`). - `JsonSchemaForm` `EnumField`: when every enum option is numeric, the selected value is coerced back to a number on change so the payload keeps the schema's integer type (a stringified `"2"` would otherwise fail server-side integer validation — this is what fixes the original bug for the dropdown path). - Tests: added `EnumField` coverage in `JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx` (blank row present, no `0`, blank selected by default, numeric coercion, blank → unset) and Daytona manifest coverage in the plugin test (memory enum is `[1,2,4,8]`, excludes `0`, stays optional). ## Verification - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/components/JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx src/pages/CompanyEnvironments.test.tsx` → 16/16 passing (14 + 2). - `vitest run` in `packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/daytona` → 19/19 passing (incl. 3 new manifest tests). - `cd ui && npx tsc --noEmit` → clean. - Behavior: the memory field now renders as a dropdown showing **None / 1 / 2 / 4 / 8**, with **None** selected by default. Picking `2` stores the integer `2`; picking **None** clears the field so it is omitted from the payload (no `0`, no "must be greater than zero" error). ## Risks - Low risk. The blank-row + numeric-coercion changes live in `EnumField`. The blank row is only added for **optional** enums (required enums are unaffected); numeric coercion only triggers when every option is numeric, so existing string enums (`egressMode`, `backend`, `sessionStrategy`) are unchanged. The manifest change is scoped to the Daytona provider. ## Model Used Claude (Anthropic), Opus-class model, used via the Paperclip agent workflow (author + reviewer agents) with tool use and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above (none found) - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

exe.dev config UX: advanced-options disclosure, form-default fix, SSH key handling (PAPA-407) (#7025)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents and provisions sandboxed execution
environments for them; one of those provisioners is the exe.dev plugin,
which runs each agent inside a long-lived VM reached over SSH.
> - The instance-config form for that plugin is rendered generically by
`JsonSchemaForm` from the plugin's `instanceConfigSchema`, so any UX
problem with the form is split between the shared form component and the
plugin's schema/runtime code.
> - Users coming in cold hit a 12-field flat config they couldn't reason
about (PAPA-407), a form that silently submitted `cpu: 0` for untouched
optional fields (PAPA-407 root cause), a `sshPrivateKey` textarea that
truncated RSA-4096 keys at 4096 chars (PAPA-449), a save flow that
accepted clearly-malformed keys and only blew up at lease time with raw
SSH stderr (PAPA-450, PAPA-451), and a manifest that didn't distinguish
"essential" from "advanced" knobs (PAPA-410 / PAPA-411 — duplicate
sub-issues with identical scope; PAPA-418 reconciliation kept PAPA-410
canonical).
> - These problems all point at the same surface (exe.dev sandbox
config) and are tightly coupled in code — PAPA-449/450/451 patch fields
that PAPA-410/411 introduce — so they get reviewed together.
> - This pull request lands the shared-form changes (advanced-options
disclosure, optional-scalar defaults) and the exe.dev-specific changes
(manifest restructure, longer `maxLength`, stderr translation, save-time
key validation) as five focused commits stacked on `master`.
> - The benefit is a config form that defaults to the two fields a new
user actually needs (API key + SSH private key) with a collapsible
disclosure for the rest, no silent truncation or zero-default
submissions, and SSH key problems surfaced at save time with actionable
messages instead of cryptic post-provision failures.
## What Changed
- **JsonSchemaForm advanced-options disclosure** (PAPA-410, PAPA-411 —
same scope, see note above): adds `x-paperclip-advanced` /
`x-paperclip-group` schema annotations and renders flagged fields behind
a collapsible "Advanced options" disclosure that auto-opens when a
hidden field has a validation error. Exe.dev manifest is restructured to
use the new annotations, so essentials (`apiKey`, `sshPrivateKey`) show
by default while the long tail of optional knobs is grouped under "SSH
access" / "VM resources" / "More options" headings.
- **Omit optional scalar defaults** (PAPA-407): `getDefaultForSchema` no
longer materialises `0` / `""` for optional
`number`/`integer`/`string`/`secret-ref` fields without an explicit
`default`. Object recursion drops properties whose default is
`undefined`. Fields that declare a `default` (e.g. `sshPort: 22`) still
round-trip. Adds a regression test against `getDefaultValues`.
- **Raise `sshPrivateKey` `maxLength`** (PAPA-449): bumps the exe.dev
manifest cap from 4096 to 8192 so RSA-4096 OpenSSH private keys (which
can exceed 4 KB with comments/metadata) aren't silently truncated at
submit.
- **Translate `invalid format` SSH stderr** (PAPA-450):
`formatSshFailure` now recognises `Load key … invalid format` in
combined stderr/stdout and returns a specific message naming the
key-format problem ("isn't an OpenSSH/PEM private key — confirm the
secret starts with `-----BEGIN … PRIVATE KEY-----` and isn't the `.pub`
or a PuTTY `.ppk` export") instead of dumping the raw stderr.
- **Save-time SSH key validation** (PAPA-451):
`onEnvironmentValidateConfig` inline-parses `sshPrivateKey` and rejects
common failure modes — pasted public keys, PuTTY `.ppk` format, missing
`-----END-----` footer, non-base64 body — so the form surfaces an inline
error before any VM is provisioned. Secret-ref bindings (UUIDs) are
still passed through unchanged.
## Verification
CI gates (`pnpm typecheck`, `pnpm test`, the targeted vitest suites
below) all pass.
Run locally:
```bash
# Shared form
pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/JsonSchemaForm
# 9 tests pass — includes the new "omits optional scalar fields" regression
# and the three advanced-options-disclosure tests.
# exe.dev plugin
cd packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/exe-dev && pnpm test
# 32 tests pass — includes the new sshPrivateKey-validation cases
# and the new "invalid format" stderr-translation case.
```
Manual smoke (after reinstalling the plugin so the DB manifest
refreshes):
1. Open the exe.dev environment config page. **Default view shows API
Key + SSH Private Key only**, with an "Advanced options" disclosure for
everything else (PAPA-410 / PAPA-411).
2. Paste a `.pub` file's contents into SSH Private Key, click Save.
**Inline error** rejecting the wrong-format key (PAPA-451).
3. Re-paste a valid OpenSSH/PEM private key longer than 4096 bytes —
saves cleanly (PAPA-449).
4. Save the form with everything optional left blank — server no longer
rejects with `"cpu must be greater than 0 when provided"` (PAPA-407).
5. Force a bad key through via a stored secret-ref binding and lease a
VM — failure message names the key-format problem instead of dumping raw
SSH stderr (PAPA-450).
## Risks
- **PAPA-410 / PAPA-411 manifest restructure** is the largest surface
here. Schemas using `x-paperclip-*` extensions are forward-compatible
with stricter JSON Schema validators (extensions are ignored by
default), and the form gracefully renders a flat layout when no field
opts in.
- **PAPA-407** changes form-default behaviour: optional scalar fields
that previously round-tripped as `""` / `0` will now be `undefined` and
absent from the submitted payload. Downstream consumers that expected
the empty-string/zero shape need to treat the field as optional.
Spot-checked the existing exe.dev driver — it already uses
`parseOptionalString` / `parseOptionalInteger`, which treat missing
fields as `null` rather than `0`/`""`.
- **PAPA-451** adds a save-time check, so a
previously-saved-but-malformed `sshPrivateKey` raw value will now fail
to re-save. Bound secret-refs are unaffected, matching how the user
reaches the bad-key state today (via the secrets picker).
- **PAPA-449** simply raises a cap; no semantic risk.
- **PAPA-450** only kicks in on the "invalid format" code path; existing
onboarding-marker branch is untouched.

feat(ui): wire SecretBindingPicker into JsonSchemaForm secret-ref fields (#6339)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Plugin authors expose configuration via JSON schemas, including
secret fields marked `format: "secret-ref"`
> - At the same time, Paperclip already has a first-class secrets store,
and `SecretBindingPicker` is the canonical UI for binding to one of
those stored secrets
> - But `JsonSchemaForm`'s `SecretField` rendered only a plain password
input, so configuring an E2B (or Modal / Cloudflare / Daytona) sandbox
required leaving the form, copying a secret UUID, and pasting it back
> - This pull request wires `SecretBindingPicker` into `SecretField` so
every plugin secret-ref field gets the picker plus an optional raw-value
fallback
> - The benefit is that secret reuse becomes one click instead of a tab
switch, and the raw-paste path still works for one-off keys or long
SSH-style secrets
## What Changed
- `ui/src/components/JsonSchemaForm.tsx` `SecretField` now renders
`SecretBindingPicker` above the existing password/textarea input.
UUID-shaped values are treated as bound refs (no raw input shown).
Non-UUID values keep the password/textarea visible (auto-opened) for SSH
keys and other long secrets. Empty fields show the picker plus a small
"Or paste a raw value" toggle.
- Selecting a secret writes the secret UUID to the form value — the
server-side resolution in `server/src/services/environment-config.ts`
(`resolveConfigSecretRefsForRuntime` / `collectEnvironmentSecretRefs`)
is unchanged. The version selector on the picker is suppressed
(`allowVersionSelector={false}`) because plugin secret refs always
resolve at `"latest"`.
- `ui/src/components/JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx` mocks the picker (which
requires `CompanyContext` + `QueryClient` providers) and adds coverage
for: picker render, UUID-bound state hides the raw input, picker
selection writes the UUID through `onChange`, raw text keeps the
password fallback. The original multiline (SSH key) case still asserts a
textarea + no password input.
## Verification
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui test
src/components/JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx` → 4/4 passing
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui test src/pages/PluginSettings.test.tsx`
→ 5/5 passing (existing consumer of `JsonSchemaForm`)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec tsc --noEmit` → clean
- Manual: in the company Environments page, edit an environment with a
sandbox driver that exposes a `secret-ref` field (e.g., E2B `apiKey`).
The field should render the secret dropdown above the raw-value toggle;
selecting an active secret persists its UUID, and saving the form
continues to resolve the secret at runtime.
Before/after screenshots: deferred — change was validated by
[@devinfoley](https://github.com/devinfoley) on the main Paperclip
instance before this PR was opened. Happy to add screenshots if a
reviewer wants them.
## Risks
- Low risk. The change is additive in the SecretField: the raw-value
password/textarea path is preserved and auto-opens whenever the stored
value is not a UUID, so existing SSH-key entries and unsaved raw values
are untouched.
- The new heuristic is "if `value` is a UUID, treat it as a bound
secret". A user who somehow pasted a UUID as a literal value (not as a
secret ref) would now see it rendered as a bound (possibly missing)
secret in the picker. The previous UI already treated UUID values as
opaque secret refs at save time (server converts UUIDs straight
through), so the runtime behavior is unchanged.
- Picker pulls company secrets via the existing `secretsApi.list` query.
No new endpoints, no migrations.

Add exe.dev sandbox provider plugin (#5688)
> _Stacked on top of #5685 → #5686 → #5687. Diff against master includes commits from earlier PRs in the stack — review focuses on the two new commits (`Add long-secret textarea variant to JsonSchemaForm SecretField` + `Add exe.dev sandbox provider plugin`)._ ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Each agent runs in a sandbox environment, and operators choose the provider — today E2B, Daytona, and (in this stack) Cloudflare > - exe.dev offers per-VM sandboxes via a small CLI / HTTP API — useful for operators who want full Linux VMs (vs container/runtime-only sandboxes) > - The plugin shape mirrors the e2b plugin: lifecycle hooks (`new`, `ls`, `rm`) drive exe.dev's CLI; SSH plumbing handles direct VM access for adapters that need it > - exe.dev VMs come up bare — `node` is not preinstalled, so the Paperclip sandbox callback bridge (a Node script) needs Node 20 installed at VM init via `--setup-script`. The plugin defaults the setup script to a Nodesource install > - The auth field accepts long SSH private keys, which need a textarea variant of the existing `SecretField` in `JsonSchemaForm` — added behind a `maxLength > THRESHOLD` opt-in so other secret fields are unaffected > - The benefit is that operators get exe.dev as a fully working sandbox provider out of the box, with no manual VM provisioning required ## What Changed **Shared UI support (`Add long-secret textarea variant to JsonSchemaForm SecretField`):** - `ui/src/components/JsonSchemaForm.tsx` + new `JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx`: when a secret-formatted field declares `maxLength` larger than the existing single-line threshold, render a monospace textarea instead of the masked input. Short secrets (API keys, tokens) keep the existing masked-input + show/hide toggle behavior. **The exe.dev plugin (`Add exe.dev sandbox provider plugin`):** - `packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/exe-dev/`: plugin entry, manifest, plugin runtime, README, and 19-test Vitest suite. - Manifest fields: API token (with `secret-ref` + `/exec` permission notes — needs `new`, `ls`, `rm`), API URL override, optional SSH username, optional SSH private key (uses the new `JsonSchemaForm` textarea variant via `maxLength: 4096`), optional SSH identity-file path, optional setup script. - Default `--setup-script` is a Nodesource Node 20 install. exe.dev VMs come up bare and the Paperclip sandbox callback bridge is a Node script, so without Node preinstalled the bridge can't start. Operators can override by supplying their own setup script. - `runLifecycleCommand` redacts env values from the executed command before surfacing it in error messages, so secrets passed via `--env=KEY=VALUE` don't leak into operator-visible failures. - The plugin distinguishes exe.dev's SSH onboarding failures (`Please complete registration by running: ssh exe.dev`) from general SSH failures and surfaces a clear remediation message. - `scripts/release-package-manifest.json`: register the new plugin for CI publish alongside the existing daytona / e2b providers. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage ui/src/components/JsonSchemaForm.test.tsx` - `(cd packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/exe-dev && pnpm test)` — 19 passing For an operator-side smoke test: 1. Get an exe.dev API token with `/exec` permission for `new`, `ls`, `rm`. 2. Register the plugin in your Paperclip instance, configure an environment with the token. 3. Create a sandbox env whose provider is `exe-dev`, then run a Codex or Claude job against it. The default Node 20 setup script should bring the VM up automatically. ## Risks - Adds a new sandbox provider plugin that follows the existing daytona / e2b shape; behavior on existing providers is unchanged. - The `JsonSchemaForm` textarea variant only engages for fields that opt in via `maxLength` larger than the existing threshold. All existing secret fields (which don't declare a `maxLength`) keep their current rendering. Test coverage pins both paths. - The redaction in `runLifecycleCommand` is a defense-in-depth measure; the test suite exercises the redaction path. If the redaction misses a future env-arg shape, the worst case is restored behavior (secrets in error messages), which is what the existing daytona / e2b plugins also do today. - Default setup script downloads from `deb.nodesource.com` over HTTPS at VM init. Operators on air-gapped networks or with a different package strategy can override the setup script. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic - Model: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) - Capabilities used: extended reasoning, tool use (Read/Edit/Bash/Grep) ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots — UI change is a textarea variant of an existing secret field; will attach screenshots before requesting merge - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (plugin README, manifest descriptions) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
