fix(adapter-utils): skip the materialize lock for an already-current skill (#17061)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - A remote Claude ACP run stages the selected runtime skills into the sandbox. The host archives the materialized skills directory with tar and uploads it. > - Concurrent runs of one agent share that skills directory. The directory key is the selected skill set and its content. > - Each run calls `materializePaperclipSkillCopy` for each skill. The function always created and removed a sibling `<skill>.lock` directory, even when the copy was already current. > - The archive step lists the directory entries first and then gives the names to tar. When a concurrent run removed its lock between these two steps, tar failed with `Cannot stat` and the whole run failed as `adapter_failed`. > - This pull request checks the materialized fingerprint before it takes the lock. An up-to-date copy now leaves no transient entries in the shared directory. > - The benefit is that concurrent runs of one agent no longer fail each other's skill staging. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A remote `claude_local` run failed before the agent started. The skill staging step ran `tar -c ... -T entries.nul` on the shared runtime-skills directory. Tar stopped with `tar: <skill>.lock: Cannot stat: No such file or directory` and exit status 2. Another run of the same agent was materializing the same skills at the same time. **Expected behavior** A run that finds its skills already materialized does not change the shared skills directory. Concurrent runs can archive that directory safely. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Materialize a skill into a skills directory. 2. Call `materializePaperclipSkillCopy` again in a loop for the same skill. 3. At the same time, call `createTarballFromDirectory` on the skills directory in a loop. 4. Before this change, most archives fail with `Cannot stat` on `<skill>.lock`. **Agent adapter(s) involved** `claude_local` (ACP, remote sandbox). The function is shared, so `grok_local` and the Codex and Gemini ACP skill paths also benefit. ## What Changed - `packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.ts`: `materializePaperclipSkillCopy` hashes the source and checks the materialized sentinel before it takes the lock. When the copy is current, it returns without creating the lock directory or a temporary copy. The existing check inside the lock stays, so a copy that is missing or out of date still uses the lock as before. The source is hashed once per call, the same as before. - `packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts`: a new test holds a live lock from another owner, then materializes an already-current skill. The call must return at once and must not change the lock or the directory. ## Verification - `cd packages/adapter-utils && npx vitest run src/server-utils.test.ts`: 132 passed. - Red/green: without the fix, the new test times out because the call waits on the live lock. With the fix, it passes. - `npx vitest run src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t skill`: 15 passed. - `npx tsc --noEmit -p tsconfig.json` in `packages/adapter-utils`: passes. - Real-dependency race check (a temporary script, not committed). The script used real files and the system tar. It ran `materializePaperclipSkillCopy` for 5 skills in a loop while `createTarballFromDirectory` archived the same directory for 8 seconds: - Before the fix: 1994 of 2307 archives failed with `tar: skill-1.lock: Cannot stat: No such file or directory`. - After the fix: 0 of 2021 archives failed. - Assumption under test: the sentinel check outside the lock is safe. The sentinel is written into the temporary copy before the atomic rename, so a matching sentinel means a complete copy. The lock never protected readers: the caller already reads `SKILL.md` after the lock is released. - Remaining limit: the first materialization of a new skill set still uses the lock. A concurrent archive of the same directory is unlikely then, because a run archives the directory only after it has materialized every skill in it. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only skips the lock when the result is already correct. A missing, damaged, or out-of-date copy uses the same locked path as before. - No change to the materialized layout, the sentinel format, or the lock format. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Verify native Runner setup through plugin tasks (#17029)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for AI agents. > - An environment plugin can own a Runner task. > - The merged launch-preparation contract lets the execution owner build the provider configuration. > - Core still needs a task process owner and a setup test that uses that configuration. > - This PR connects the task API to the Runner process-owner contract. > - Operators can test a plugin environment before Core sends it task work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Runner, plugin SDK, and agent environment tests. **Problem or motivation** A task-only environment cannot use the shell-based setup path. Core must verify the Runner hello exchange and process cleanup through dedicated task operations. **Proposed solution** Add a lease-bound task driver and use it for a bounded setup probe. Keep heartbeat admission and task execution in #16978. This PR follows the merged launch-preparation contract in #16997. **Alternatives considered** A provider declaration alone cannot prove that Runner and the provider connect. A shell bridge would give the plugin an unnecessary command interface. ## What Changed - Pass structured Runner launch data to process owners. Support an external connection and explicit detach. - Add typed launch authentication checks and checkpoint operations. Check lease, run, project, and retained-task authority. - Connect launch preparation, PRP, termination proof, and credential handoff to the task driver. Reject local environment overrides during installed-account setup. Pass saved-account identity and credential home directly from Core. - Run a short-lived setup probe through the existing agent environment test API. Require a verified provider hello and cleanup. Keep saved Copilot account checks metadata-only through a dedicated task operation. - Update the Copilot source identity because the shared transport source changed. Keep provider behavior and the earlier identity fixture. ## Verification - CI passes on `f987adec7`: 55 successful checks and 5 expected skips. Standard Greptile and Apex are both 5/5 with no open findings. The branch merges cleanly with current master. - Repository typecheck and build pass after the rebase onto the workspace-provider contract. Server typecheck and build also pass after the final setup fix. - The 110 focused lease, SDK, setup, Copilot, and route cases pass after the rebase. All 14 setup cases pass after the final change. These include a real local Runner with a test provider. The saved-agent model-discovery case also passes. - Apex found that Core's relative workspace marker failed the driver path check, and non-Codex sessions omitted the observed model. Both failures were reproduced and fixed. The probe leaves physical workspace selection to plugin preparation. The transport reads each provider's observed model and exposes it to the driver. All 14 setup cases, 6 transport peer cases, and both existing real Runner/OpenCode cases pass. Runner build and server typecheck pass. - The coverage audit removed two redundant cases, repeated fixture code, and two extra real Runner launches. It kept authorization, credential selection, cancellation, lost replies, termination proof, checkpoint identity, and provider setup checks. - The Copilot source-identity check passes. The added-line secret and PII scan passes. The unmerged v52 attestation was regenerated after the shared transport fix. - CI on `13faeff02` caught one stale Copilot digest assertion after attestation regeneration. The literal now matches the candidate attestation, and all 49 installation cases pass. That CI lane otherwise passed 1,818 cases. - An earlier CI run hit an unchanged UI toast timing test. The separate fix is tracked in #16952. Current CI passes that shard. CI also caught a stale model-discovery assertion in this change; the assertion is fixed. - The local full-suite run was stopped when master changed. The final CI run supplies exact-head full-suite validation. No live Cloud or provider test was run. ## Risks - Native hello tests require a saved Core account or the installed account. Local environment overrides are unsupported for installed-account probes and fail before the provider runs. - A native task provider must declare launch preparation and authentication-check version 1. It must keep the checked configuration fixed through submission. Core rejects providers that cannot make this guarantee. - A lost task reply does not prove process termination. Core retains grants until the provider proves termination and Core saves required state. - This PR does not enable native heartbeat dispatch through plugin environments. Cloud deployment and live provider validation remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Tool use includes code editing, local tests, and the GitHub CLI. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal issue details - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover saved work and provide reliable task Retry (#16965)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The control plane must retain work when an execution or workspace export fails. > - Retained-workspace holds can leave saved input waiting with no usable Retry action. > - Users cannot verify process ownership or repair provider allocations. > - This pull request gives system recovery a durable budget and gives each deliberate Retry a durable intent. > - Safe recovery can preserve files, settle an accepted result, or prepare an independent workspace. > - One task state keeps infrastructure diagnostics out of the ordinary conversation while preserving real permission and approval gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task with a retained workspace can show recovery, failed-run and saved-message warnings at the same time. Historical runs without native workspace descriptors cannot use the native restore path. Old recovery metadata can prevent a new attempt even when an independent workspace would be safe. **Expected behavior** Paperclip owns bounded infrastructure retries and file preservation. A user can request another attempt with ordinary Retry. Thinking appears immediately. The service preserves completed effects and current user controls. It does not claim that starting fresh recovered the old files. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Retain a failed run and its workspace after export or process-stop failure. 2. Save a follow-up while the recovery hold is active. 3. Open the task and try to continue without infrastructure credentials or operator certification. Refs #16906, #16835, #16883. This extends their recovery and receipt contracts. Related work: #16962 and #16963. ## What Changed - Add task-level Retry with company-scoped authorization, all-status idempotency and durable admission before physical work. Keep exact-run Retry compatible. - Add typed recovery phases, finite persisted backoff, historical adoption and durable local failure diagnostics. - Preserve native workspaces or verified historical snapshots. Admit an independent fresh workspace only after execution containment. Keep old-source preservation and cleanup obligations separate. - Carry completed publication and API receipts forward. Fence uncertain mutation retries across replacement runs. Preserve connected-chat identity and authorization. - Re-enter normal dispatch for saved input. Reuse accepted results through the existing finalizer. - Use one task interruption projection across the thread, composer and task list. Show optimistic Thinking, ordinary Retry and genuine user gates. - Add PostgreSQL, filesystem, API, browser-fixture and controlled provider coverage. Document the behavior and update the feature/access maps. ## Verification - All GitHub Actions CI jobs pass on `6d8c6d27d50586d8548b31d03b47f6d73a0ee11d`: typecheck, all server/chat/workspace and serialized suites, Runner checks, eight browser shards, canary and build. The required merge gate passes. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5, with no actionable findings or unresolved review threads. Its two earlier P1 findings are fixed. - Full recursive typecheck and build pass locally on the final commit. All 16 task Retry cases pass against isolated real PostgreSQL. The unrelated-success case and both stale Retry cases fail on the previous code and pass after the fix. - The corrected gateway fixture passes its uncertain-mutation and independent-read case. Four real HTTP API cases pass for definite 403/422 rejection, completed-effect reuse, and uncertain-effect fences across deliberate and automatic retries. These focused gateway/API checks used a temporary database lifecycle harness on an existing healthy local PostgreSQL process. The standard repository helper is unchanged. - Earlier qualification covers 291 task UI cases, saved-file copyback and ancestry, current Agent Chat ownership races, nine chat Retry API browser cases, and six assembled browser recovery fixtures. A real API/PostgreSQL/native-runner journey showed Thinking in 25 ms despite a delayed response, admitted one successor in a separate workspace, retained original files, and survived reload. - The controlled Daytona test interrupts export, joins the controller, restarts it in a separate process, and verifies one agent start, one external sentinel operation, retained file contents and no premature cleanup. It does not establish abrupt-kill or live LLM/GitHub acceptance. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and was not green: an OAuth row-lock timing assertion failed, and a later suite exhausted macOS PostgreSQL semaphores. The ten OAuth timing cases passed on rerun against a separate database. Later embedded database initialization failures remain recorded; the final CI matrix passes. - Security scanning passed on production-code commit `63953edf069b111c6becc3144dffa6deb52f68b5`. Its only successor changes one test-fixture identity line. The final scan is neutral/inconclusive because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. Both rerun API requests returned 404, so no fresh successful scan is claimed. Socket and Snyk checks pass on the final head. - The optional Paperclip Review remains queued behind an earlier run in workspace finalization. Its prior completed assessment was incomplete because a comparison tool was blocked by the platform filter. It is not counted as a completed code review. GitHub does not require this check for merge. - Hosted acceptance remains pending deployment. Local and CI results do not establish recovery of a hosted task or its retained files. ## Risks - Recovery changes span admission, physical ownership and dispatch. Incorrect evidence could permit overlapping work. Existing physical locks and authoritative stop requirements remain in place. - The migration adds concurrent indexes. It requires the existing top-level migration runner and retries incomplete index creation safely. - A fresh attempt can complete while old-source preservation remains unresolved. The service retains that obligation and does not report those files as recovered. - Unknown tool mutations remain blocked until their authoritative receipt owner resolves them. Generic upstream tools have no universal result-query protocol. - Recovery and diagnostics stay inside the stack. No Cloud incident endpoint, notification worker or new outbound reporting channel is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. The model used reasoning, shell execution, source editing and browser tools. No model subagents were used for this implementation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; the full local run limitation is documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer work. > - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion, workspace, and review policy. > - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between agents. > - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access, budgets, and completion gates. > - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and read-only case pages. > - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when work can run and finish. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its own running task. **Proposed solution** Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase, retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`, `update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to `done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted. **Alternatives considered** Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph, or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays removed. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review, budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain authoritative. Related work: [ordinary handoff wake recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release barrier. ## What Changed - Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations. - Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each returning agent's own session and the task's workspace. - Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership, including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting. - Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside retained task/project permissions. - Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts, and current source authorization on every page. - Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls, compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in Audit. - Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile. - Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task threads. - Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount behavior. ## Verification The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614) passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549), with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a required branch check. No check result was overridden. Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008 API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit. On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests** executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files: - 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout. - 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure, a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a fresh worker after the process group stops. - 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts. - 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests. - 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool integration tests. - 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict protocol-contract tests. The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master `9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking; unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior. These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the browser-only retry did not rerun these suites. The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects. The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`. The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged. The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10 tests. The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the 194 critical tests or as live provider proof. All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes. Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review later identified unusable document references with generic API tools disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated HTTP tests address that finding. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped, including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard also passed after the fixture repair. A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6 USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on `6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable. Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48 identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json). This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix, installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout. Preserved CI failures and retries: - On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that shard; no source or timeout changed. - On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19 UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all 32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head, `7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries. - On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease. Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all 41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries. - On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard passed. - On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit. Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed. The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify the original blocking transaction. ## Risks - Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently of scratch setup. - Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and uncertain provider termination. - Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions. This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing task cannot preserve that boundary. - Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill. Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff. - Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access. - Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page. Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old snapshot. - Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy review or approval gates. - This is a large, cross-cutting PR. fix(github): reuse review instructions across native turns (#16971)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - GitHub events continue an ordinary task and can reuse its provider conversation. > - Each automatic event appended the full review policy and PR description. > - Native GitHub follow-ups also repeated task history because only Slack used the compact path. > - This pull request separates admitted review configuration from commit updates. > - A verified resume sends the current messages and changed configuration. A fresh session gets full context. > - This reduces repeated input while retaining review rules and current tool checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13959, #16645, #16901. **What happened?** Opening a PR and pushing twice stored three full review prompts. A later native turn repeated all three in a retained provider conversation. **Expected behavior** A new event supplies its commit and event data. The harness delivers stable review instructions once per retained conversation and configuration. Fresh sessions receive full instructions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable automatic GitHub reviews for a repository. 2. Open a PR, let the review finish, and push two new commits. 3. Inspect task messages and the native submitted envelopes. Before this fix, the policy and old requests repeat. ## What Changed - Store compact automatic event messages. Fetch the PR description through the existing metadata tool when needed. - Load review instructions from processed deliveries bound to the company, task, agent, and source comments. Preserve each admitted policy snapshot. - Use the existing verified native continuation path for complete GitHub text batches. Deliver configuration changes using a key over endpoint, PR conversation, revision, and instructions. - Keep full bootstrap input for fresh sessions and failed resume, including board follow-ups with no new GitHub event. Retain existing framing for incomplete batches, attachments, interactions, and recovery. - Keep the same configuration identity across automatic review, discussion, and automatic review. Coalesced requests use the last accepted request's admitted policy. - Add regression and database coverage. Update the execution contract and verification recipe. ## Verification - Red: the new event-size regression failed because policy and PR body repeated. The GitHub continuation regression failed because it returned no compact prompt. - Green: focused policy, continuation, native input, and adapter prompt tests passed (231 tests). Native resume/fresh-bootstrap cases passed (9 tests). - The signed-webhook/database case passed at `6296168253`. It checks configuration edits, queued older snapshots, coalesced policy selection, discussion continuity, board follow-ups, and company/task/agent/comment boundaries. The private PostgreSQL template used 12 connections because the host reached its semaphore limit with the default settings. - The earlier broad channel/session integration run passed 1,432 tests. Later review fixes invalidated that run. The latest focused database case passed after those fixes. - Reviewer regressions failed against the previous lookup, then passed with the fix: a mixed-revision batch delivered multiple policies, and a discussion lost the configuration identity. The board wake-to-rendered-prompt regression also failed before repair. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` passed on the final source. - Full local `pnpm test:run` exposed follow-up/fixture failures during development. Those cases are fixed and pass separately. The stale run was stopped after source edits. Full-suite validation for the final commit passed in CI. - All required CI checks passed for `6296168253`, including tests, typechecks, build, and clean public npm install checks. The two unrelated Storybook checks were skipped. - A live two-turn Codex smoke could not start: the local macOS sandbox helper rejected execution of the installed Codex 0.153.4 binary. No live GitHub/provider acceptance or deployment is claimed. ## Risks Skipping instructions is safe only after a verified checkpoint resume with the correct previous run. The full bootstrap remains available if resume fails. Changed or previously unknown configuration is sent again. Tests cover these cases. Tool authorization and publication checks still run under the current server policy. No database migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool use and code execution. The exact deployment model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. No delegated agents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Connect and configure GitHub Copilot through Apps (#15705)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps and AI Connections store credentials and govern access to agent runtimes. > - Users need a supported saved-token connection and config values that survive save and reopen. > - The release must preserve saved-token access and task lifecycle guarantees. > - This pull request will connect Copilot through the normal Apps and AI Connections path. > - The benefit is a reviewable part of the Copilot production release. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15701 and #15703. Supersedes setup work in #15562. Base: #15703. Next: #15706. ## What Changed - Require configuration update authority before Copilot credential-bearing model discovery; default to the saved environment and preserve explicit selection for editors. - Keep Copilot discovery passive during reconnect reconciliation; refresh on explicit opening, account/environment changes and reconnect. - Add GitHub AI token connections with encrypted storage, ownership, grants and audit logging. - Keep repository access separate from Copilot runtime authentication. - Probe the selected environment without sending a model prompt and preserve authenticated model selection through save/reopen. - Keep fresh execution admission consistent with normal Copilot setup; persist task model choices without changing provider or permission policy. - Refresh authenticated models after reconnecting the same saved Copilot account, including recovery from a previous authentication error. - Apply the additive provider-default constraint migration through the normal generated migration workflow. ## Verification Runtime #15701 is merged at `d855e550ad8d2a267312983f26457aabf5393c3a`. History #15703 is merged at `df80616d98119cbf5abd40549794d9980a5fabf6`. Remaining source [`42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d) contains the four-file authorization repair. The remaining PR trees preserve six nonoverlapping files from the newer public mainline managed-settings fix and the CI-owned lockfile. No unrelated provider is enabled. The security finding is repaired: existing-agent discovery requires `agent_config:update` before connection selection or token resolution. The saved environment is the default. Authorized editors can select a prospective environment. Both denied board-viewer and agent-reader regressions fail on the original source. All49 route tests and server typecheck pass with the fix. Denied requests perform no connection selection, credential resolution or probe. Current-head security scans pass on both remaining PRs; the repaired thread is resolved. Copilot CLI1.0.88 and profile47 retain digest `sha256:55044aa235e88b3fe36ec8a556ee1e3382590870aab907e4462ef7d64af49cea`. The [qualification record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-qualification-v47.json) reports20/20 Product cells,154 assertions and7/7 protocol cases,46 assertions against frozen normal installed source `c2616370800f5f6df45246b0890ba35a7cd2faab`. The exact qualification model is `gpt-5.6-luna`. Every passing Product case confirms cleanup. Original failures remain recorded; automatic behavior retries are disabled. The route-only authorization repair changes no bound runtime/profile bytes and does not relabel the frozen campaign. The ordinary installed remote journey passed saved-token selection, model discovery, normal UI save/reopen, metadata-only Test, completed task, accepted receipt and exact19-byte browser download. An open model catalog caused no additional discovery requests during117seconds. Actual installed runtime smokes passed on macOS ARM64, macOS x64 under Rosetta and native Linux x64 on Daytona. Raw token browser entry was not exercised; encrypted connection creation used the normal API. The first Daytona file attempt timed out during delayed semantic dispatch; its precise stalled layer remains unresolved. Independent ordinary remote delivery and the other19 Product cells passed before one instrumented recheck passed8/8 with unchanged source, prompt, assertions and deadlines. No causal latency repair is claimed. Before the authorization repair, all four final PR heads passed required verify/E2E and fresh Greptile5/5 reviews with zero unresolved threads. Current-head CI/review is running for the two repaired heads. Local focused checks retain129 connection,59 runner,72 shared-eval and88 recovery/workspace passes, plus migration safety and token gates. The additive Copilot migration is361; released master history is preserved. [Cloud normal-package run39414239704](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39414239704) builds the pre-security source4f3f. All four native producers and Linux package assembly pass; the final clean installed consumers are finishing. All18 retained archives match their hashes;37,863 regular files contain zero selected credentials. That package does not contain the later route repair. The actual final published package must include it and pass the local/Daytona live canaries. The frozen Daytona image remains published and independently verified. No separate full-image scan is claimed. Docker builds run in the cloud. **Remaining:** current-head CI/review, setup and qualification merges, final publication, and ordinary local/Daytona canaries against the actual shipped package. The user explicitly authorizes the maintainer review override; CI remains a merge gate. No production deployment is claimed. Provider USD remains unknown and GitHub-attributed. ## Risks Bad credentials, missing entitlement, runtime installation and unavailable models must remain distinct failures. A connection must not adopt ambient credentials. The constraint migration changes accepted provider values, with no credential-storage migration. Current-master NewAgent fixture extraction is retained. Copilot cases use that shared support and test both passive discovery and explicit reconnect under the same setup lifecycle. The onboarding retry regression shares the component suite’s saved-connection, authenticated-model, draft, agent-list, hire and render lifecycle fixtures. Keeping it beside the existing onboarding failures makes adoption versus duplicate hire observable under the same lifecycle; this is the concrete cohesion reason for the existing large test file. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. Used for code changes, review and tool-assisted verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: derive startup warmth from per-layer reuse evidence (#16908)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Agent startup can reuse a lease, workspace, Runner, process, or session. > - A session ID can remain the same when other resources are new. > - The old cold/warm label did not show these separate decisions. > - This pull request records closed reuse receipts and derives labels from them. > - Reports now show partial reuse and missing evidence. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11685. That issue tracks a specific ACPX fingerprint repair. This change records reuse evidence across startup resources. It does not repeat that repair. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Startup labels in the operator trace and Product E2E reports. **Current behavior** A cached runtime or a continuous session can suggest a warm startup even when workspace staging or provider launch work occurs. **Proposed behavior** Record each layer's reuse decision and a closed reason. Record observed provider launch counts. Use `warm`, `cold`, `partial_reuse`, or `unknown` from those receipts. Keep old runs unknown when they have no receipts. ## What Changed - Add local run-log receipts for the lease, workspace, Runner, provider process, and provider session. - Count physical ACPX launches, including respawns. Preserve the reason for a new process. - Reuse native workspace adoption and session lifecycle evidence. Keep native and bridged remote provider-process reuse and launch counts unknown where physical evidence is absent. - Show the per-run summary in retained results and the dashboard. Keep missing legacy values explicit. - Set the legacy trace boolean only for fully evidenced cold or warm startup. Keep the operator OTLP gate. Add no first-party Telemetry. - Test full reuse, workspace invalidation, two direct provider launches with session continuity, and report generation. - Start the final diagnostic write without waiting for persistence. Keep lease cleanup independent of a stalled event sink. - Keep remote provider evidence unknown after runtime setup fails or the host relay starts twice. - Align a stale Pi support-test expectation with current master profile 28 and its suite fingerprint. Keep the qualification rules unchanged. ## Verification - Passed: all 319 runtime, startup-timing, reuse-summary, and native workspace-history tests. Disposable local Git tests used the native Git binary. - Passed on the current commit: all 2,768 Runner E2E support tests across 128 files. This includes report and history tests for generated HTML and normalized JSON. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck`. - Passed on `df60f8dbdbfcb6d80c84cd3bf563f8d58b2f9f03`: all PR CI gates, including repository typecheck and build, all test shards, and browser tests. Both automated reviews are 5/5. GitHub reports 55 successful checks, one neutral review, and two skipped Storybook checks. - The first server shard run failed because an unchanged workspace-runtime fixture did not accept health connections within 10 seconds. Its isolated local test and the single failed-jobs rerun both pass. This establishes recovery; the cause of the first timeout remains unknown. - Passed in the hosted source run on this exact commit: recursive typecheck, token gates, the large Runner E2E typecheck, Runner E2E unit tests, and build. The retained `source.txt` matches this PR head. - The extra unsharded `pnpm test:run` reached its 60-minute limit (exit 124). It has no complete verdict. The broad workflow therefore reports failure. No assertion-failure marker appears in the retained partial log. Full-suite acceptance uses the passing canonical PR CI partitions. A read-only inventory check found no gaps across 1,023 general server files, 161 serialized suites, and 20 workspace projects. The separate chat/native Runner lanes cover the excluded server files. No tests or timeouts were weakened. The local environment has 4 GiB of memory. Use CI for the large Runner E2E typecheck. - The initial report tests failed because the harness could not resolve package imports from the repository root. Relative source imports fixed that failure. - The first broad local run had timeouts from the environment Git bridge. Native Git resolves the ancestry timeout and all runtime tests pass. The added report fixture lacked its required screenshot; the corrected report tests pass. A stale master assertion expected Pi profile 27, while the generated profile is 28. Updated its expectation and exact suite fingerprint; all 78 targeted support tests pass. The clean full support run passes all 2,768 tests. - The three review regression cases failed before repair. They showed remote counts of zero and two, and a completed run that waited for the final diagnostic sink. They now pass. The stalled-sink case keeps persistence pending while the run returns, both bridge stops run once, and the staging lock map becomes empty. - Hosted evidence for this commit: [source verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416), [retained command logs and status table](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416/artifacts/12228829282). All listed commands exited zero except the incomplete unsharded test command described above. - The physical-launch test drives the executor's spawn callback twice. The native workspace test uses real Git repositories and verifies reuse and invalidation. These are deterministic tests, not a paid provider qualification campaign. ## Risks - Consumers must handle `partial_reuse` and `unknown`. Partial evidence no longer produces a legacy cold/warm boolean. - Native and remote bridged provider process evidence is still unavailable on some paths. The report shows unknown values for those paths. - Receipt emission is best effort. Missing receipts reduce confidence in a label and must not change execution or settlement. - No schema migration, first-party Telemetry event, or endpoint default changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, used reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The exact provider model ID and context window are not exposed to this session. The existing implementation checkpoint was preserved from the earlier agent run. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix: admit documented sandbox task context routes (#16892)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip agents use task context to complete assigned work. > - Sandboxed agents reach the controller through a bounded callback bridge. > - The bridge rejects several documented context routes before controller authorization runs. > - An authorized agent cannot read a task screenshot or referenced skill file, or inspect a missed monitor wake. > - This pull request admits only the exact context routes and supported methods. > - The controller continues to enforce company, resource, task and monitor authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Both callback transports return `Route not allowed` for task asset content, company skill detail and files, wake diagnostics, and the monitor check-now action. These operations already exist in the controller. **Expected behavior** A sandboxed agent can use these documented operations when the controller authorizes its request. Other methods, deeper paths, skill mutations, and recovery resolution remain restricted. **Steps to reproduce** Use a sandbox callback to read an asset URL from a task description, read a company skill's referenced file, or inspect a task's wake diagnostics. The baseline bridge rejects each request. The new regression matrix runs all five operations against both transport allowlists. Related: #16772 documents refused callback routes. This PR fixes the context routes listed above; it does not add company-wide activity or labels access. ## What Changed - Admit asset content, skill detail/files, and wake diagnostic reads. - Admit the existing monitor check-now action with controller authorization. - Add a focused allow/deny matrix for both transports. - Update the operational API reference and access maps. ## Verification - With the pre-fix bridge rules, all 10 allowed-request cases fail with `Route not allowed` across the two transports; all 24 deny controls still pass. - With the fix restored, all 34 route cases pass. The matrix plus existing callback suite passes 119 tests across two files. - Local `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. - The access-map checker, capability contract generation check, and capability inventory check pass. - Full repository CI passes on `97f9f06b2c`: typecheck/release registry, all test shards, build, Docker context, canary dry run, and aggregate verify. - The duplicate local full-suite run was stopped after 24 minutes once full CI passed; it is not claimed as a completed local pass. - Greptile is 5/5 on the current head with no inline findings. Independent source review checked asset, skill, wake-diagnostic, and monitor controller authorization and found no actionable issues. - The secondary Paperclip automated review is neutral/incomplete. Independent review covered its missing controller checks; the real Vitest cases and full CI provide execution evidence. ## Risks This widens transport admission for five existing operations. It does not change controller authorization. Asset reads still check company/task visibility; skill reads keep source policy; monitor checks keep ownership and management permission. No schema or UI change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use and code execution. The session does not expose the exact serving model ID or context window. The work used failing-before and passing-after regression tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: configure company agent observability (#16874)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Companies use several agent harnesses and execution environments. > - Operators need one place to select where native agent logs and traces go. > - An inference proxy would add a dependency to the agent request path. > - This pull request supplies native OpenTelemetry settings to managed Codex and Claude Code processes. > - Company secrets protect destination credentials. Export failure does not change the task result. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Company settings, shared contracts, database, server, adapters, and runner. **Problem or motivation** An operator cannot configure a company destination for native agent logs and traces. Manual harness configuration is hard to apply across local and remote execution. **Proposed solution** Add one company destination: Braintrust or a custom OTLP HTTP/protobuf endpoint. Apply a transient snapshot when execution preparation starts. Keep credentials out of API reads, task environment manifests, recovery files, and command arguments. Replace a warm process when its export settings change and preserve its conversation. **Alternatives considered** Multiple destinations can use a user-operated collector for fan-out. This change does not add a collector, an inference proxy, or transcript scraping. **Roadmap alignment** This extends company settings, secret management, and support for multiple harnesses. The maintainer requested this implementation. Searches for observability and Braintrust found no duplicate company destination feature. Related infrastructure tracing work in #16236 has a separate content-free contract. ## What Changed - Add strict schemas, revision checks, encrypted secret storage, activity records, and board-only settings routes. - Add explicit synthetic logs and traces tests with a bounded HTTP request and sanitized results. - Supply native Codex configuration and Claude Code environment values through local and remote launch paths. - Preserve Codex login refresh through the existing managed credential link. Retain unsaved drafts across background reads. Require complete custom header re-entry when the endpoint origin changes. - Separate process export compatibility from conversation identity. Isolate generated Codex configuration and preserve resumable sessions, including remote home refresh after export changes. - Advance the immutable Pi/Copilot source attestations for shared environment and sidecar code changes. Keep their provider payloads unchanged and retain prior identities for decoding. - Redact destination credentials throughout launch diagnostics and HTTP logs. - Add the production settings form, Storybook states and journey, documentation, and feature/access map entries. ## Verification - Real managed local Codex 0.160.0 and Claude Code 2.1.286 tasks exported to Braintrust. API readback and the Braintrust UI showed the test records. A real remote Daytona Codex task exported through the legacy `exec` path. - Live tests exercised content capture off, export disabled, warm conversation reuse, and a destination that accepted connections but never replied. Agent work succeeded and export requests stopped at the configured three-second timeout. The UI connection test returned “Test payload accepted”; the saved API key stayed masked after reload. - All current-head CI test lanes, typechecks, packaging/build checks, and required aggregates passed on `71e994b2be9c8fb6d6e938a4ad7cf4c95fdafe31` ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318)). Greptile completed on that exact commit at 5/5, with zero unresolved review threads. The additional optional Paperclip Review check remains queued waiting for its assigned agent. - Local workspace typecheck and build passed. Focused verification included 239 combined runner tests, 789 API/native-session tests, 107 Codex home/ACP/sandbox-site tests, 204 feature/privacy tests, and the affected Rust suites. Migration, token, map, Storybook catalog, and Storybook build checks passed during acceptance. These checks ran at the relevant implementation or merge boundary; the current-head CI is the complete final gate. - Managed AI credential projections now receive enabled and disabled company export settings; genuine caller-owned Codex homes remain untouched. Two regressions reproduced the skip before the repair. All 276 engine/lifecycle tests and adapter-utils typecheck pass afterward. The launched TOML retains provider/MCP settings, credential continuity, and redaction. - Settings saves, removal, and the real company-deletion owner acquire secret mutation ownership before database locks. PostgreSQL NOWAIT probes cover all three paths; concurrent save/rotation/removal/deletion requests settle correctly. The affected suites passed 137 tests, followed by all 32 service/connection cases after expanded deletion coverage. Server and Codex adapter typechecks pass. - Codex source profiles use the effective CLI argument list. A spawned fixture CLI reproduced both ignored-argument failures; all three precedence/fallback cases now pass. - Real tar staging reproduced remote conversation loss in both API-key and subscription modes before the repair. Both now pass: changing managed settings preserves sessions, archives, native indexes, and refreshed subscription credentials. A corrupt upload preserves the prior config and conversation. - Preserved failure evidence: initial CI caught stale Pi/Copilot source attestations, a missing test-harness helper, and packaging fixture/probe mismatches; those were corrected and covered by focused checks. Superseded heads had intermittent attachment-composer timeouts despite successful uploads; [the original trace and screenshot remain available](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39309701089/artifacts/12215109203). The same attachment case passed on the final head: [25/25 tests in shard 3](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318/job/118288637051). - A connection-fault fixture also exposed a stale pooled socket after its hang case; closing fixture responses isolated scenarios and the full affected suite passed. - The broad local test run was not clean: database resource failures, timeouts, an older cached module graph, and a stale optional-resource manifest assumption were recorded. Focused checks passed after the documented fixes. This does not establish a clean full local pass. - Native remote Codex, remote Claude, and the full ACPX Codex bridge remain unqualified. The direct Codex resume test does not establish full bridge acceptance. ## Risks - Native exporters perform network requests from each execution environment. A server connection test does not prove remote reachability. - Prompts, assistant responses, and tool content are enabled by default when supported. Native caps and harness-specific controls still apply. - Caller-owned Codex homes are unsupported for automatic configuration and remain untouched. - Native harnesses and their tool processes can inspect export credentials. The settings form and documentation advise using ingestion-scoped credentials. Retained headers remain bound to their saved scheme, host, and port; changing origin requires fresh values or removal. - Migration 0357 adds a company-scoped row and secret reference. test(adapter-utils): retry HTTP/2 fixture port collisions (#16888)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for AI agents. > - Sandbox agents use a callback bridge to reach the API. > - Tests start the generated HTTP/2 gateway on an assigned loopback port. > - The test probe releases that port before the gateway binds it. > - Another process can claim the port during that gap. > - This PR retries that specific fixture startup collision and tests its limits. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The unchanged callback bridge test failed in #16605 because its selected port was already in use. [CI job 118251110752](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39308303837/job/118251110752) reports `EADDRINUSE` before the gateway READY frame. The same helper is present on master `4d92589799`; no merged or open fix for this exact failure was found. **Expected behavior** The fixture starts on a fresh port after a confirmed bind collision. It stops after three attempts and preserves other startup failures. **Steps to reproduce** The new held-probe case keeps the selected socket open before the real child starts. Before the correction, the original authorization test fails with `EADDRINUSE`. The unchanged no-collision case passes. **Additional context** This is the separate scoped correction for #16605's unrelated CI failure. It changes one test file. ## What Changed - Retry only pre-READY gateway exits with code 1 and the specific `EADDRINUSE` bind diagnostic. - Wait for child close and fully drained stderr before classifying startup. Kill failed attempts and preserve the original failure after three collisions. - Keep the real probe socket open to inject collisions without a timing race. - Verify successful recovery, bounded exhaustion, delayed stderr, and immediate failure for unrelated startup errors. Accept successful starts anywhere within the three-attempt limit. Preserve the original authorization and header-stripping assertions. ## Verification - Negative controls: the held-port authorization case fails with `EADDRINUSE`, and retry exhaustion observes only one attempt before the correction. The ordinary case passes. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.test.ts`: all 89 tests pass on the final head. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck`: passes. - Initial standard Greptile returned 4/5 for late stderr classification and exact success-count assertions. Both are corrected. The final real-pipe control reproduces missing diagnostics with the old exit listener and passes with close-based readiness. An initial pause-only control was not discriminating because Node resumes pipes on exit; the final control holds that resume until after exit. - Diff checks and the complete secrets/PII review pass. - Full local repository tests and build were not run for this one-file fixture change. Hosted CI and standard Greptile are pending. ## Risks The fixture can still fail after three consecutive collisions. Other startup failures remain failures. The generated gateway and its assigned-port protocol are unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner (#15993)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets users choose an agent harness and account. > - The server resolves the runner for new agents. > - Claude still needs the same ordinary native-default journey as Codex. > - Existing agents must retain their runner, model and account. > - This PR defaults new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner with Opus 5.5. > - Users can connect and work without a runner override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. This PR depends on #15994 and precedes #15997. Related scope: #15422, #13978 and #15224. ## What Changed - Resolve new Apple Silicon Claude agents to `paperclip_runner`, `provider: acpx`, `acpxAgent: claude`. Keep explicit Legacy, models, provider routing and saved execution. - Use `claude-opus-5-5` for ordinary Claude defaults and retain explicit overrides. - Reuse existing API-key/subscription connections, credential storage and checks. Generalize the shared Advanced runner control with Claude branding. - Carry configured effort into the shared v9 contract. Preserve compatible permissions, instructions, skills, timeouts and session behavior. Require Legacy for unsupported settings. - Qualify a new immutable managed Claude target at explicit Connect through the existing permission-gated probe. Use fresh scoped discovery for test and hire. Discard stale results and require an explicit Connect after settings change. - Retain merged Codex onboarding recovery, auth preparation, import/effort corrections and Grok Bot gates. - Check the Claude first-task wizard's saved default directly. Update configuration/runtime documentation and exact Opus 5.5 accounting. - Align hire fixtures with the merged host-environment restriction. Native agent-authenticated hires cannot inject host env settings; both creation endpoints verify that no extra agent is saved. ## Verification - Updated onto master `9179d8dcc3e908c217fde4f63c9d08ccf8132eeb` through #15994. Native input v9 carries effort while preserving v7 home modes and v8 Muse. Codex defaults remain unchanged. - Focused local verification passed 285 server tests, 323 UI tests, 124 setup/registry tests, and two v9 permission-pin transport cases. Direct server/UI TypeScript checks passed. An initial 30-second hook timeout was resolved by serial verification with a longer hook budget: all 122 credential/permission cases and 232 snapshot/environment cases pass. Direct server TypeScript checking also passes. - Ordinary web creation with the experiment disabled saved native Claude, Opus 5.5 and High effort without runner/model overrides. The actual product task and follow-up both succeeded on integrated source `b2c9fe43f9cd3bc5dd9d22552da0148845ba71a4` with the cloud-built daemon from `04e0202ca81387b17cbe7fd094a8338648356fe9`. The final master reconciliation also changes shared runtime source. Historical proof retains its source identity; a final-source cloud qualification is running before refreshing the preview daemon. - Both actual browser downloads were checked: v1 has three sections/six checkboxes (451 bytes); v2 preserves the original body and adds two Rollback checks (612 bytes). The original attachment stayed byte-identical. The follow-up records session resume and the same provider session. Total estimated API usage: $0.518432800, with no pending/unpriced usage in the successful fixture. - Fixed the live-discovered setup incompatibility: native API-key validation no longer depends on the global Legacy Claude CLI. The existing provider endpoint verifies the key without a paid prompt; subscription/custom routing probes remain intact. - Fixed security review's native-hire credential redirection: agent-supplied URLs, proxy/launch settings and other host environment controls are rejected before inheritance. Native credential references remain supported and partial edits use the saved harness. Added create/hire/update regression coverage. - Current-head cloud CI is green. All three stack PRs have fresh Greptile 5/5 reviews and zero unresolved review threads. Required typecheck, test and build gates ran in cloud CI; Docker work stayed remote. Earlier failed checks remain in their original runs. - Docker and native release builds ran in cloud infrastructure. An inadvertent local Rust prerequisite was stopped; no local Docker build was run. - The final master merge preserves task-loading, permission, skill-retention and OpenRouter changes. Pi uses a fresh combined profile 27, preserving both historical profile-24 declarations; Copilot remains profile 22. Focused protocol checks passed 155 cases (one skipped), the updated Pi attestation check passed 18 (one skipped), and 91 evaluation/catalog checks passed. - Latest-application manual continuation passed in 37.942 seconds on `695e5c005a85bddc8711d3fcddcaf6b7e1fb64d0`, with High effort, native Opus 5.5, Anthropic API attribution, the same resumed Claude session, an independently checked 635-byte file and persisted Done status. It uses the earlier verified Mac daemon; the preceding-source package qualification passed at `dca62c7aeb4b45f0dd91a8e18d386a16a2658ef8`. That package run predates the small TypeScript startup fix and is not relabeled as qualification for it. - Upgrade limitation: changed compiled sidecar identity rejected old durable launch state and recovery hit session-open bounds before eventually resuming. That attempt was operator-cancelled and retained; the successful manual continuation does not qualify seamless upgrades. - Local latency profile, Opus 5.5/High unchanged: three alternating real-ACP loopback samples per variant reduce median provider-ready time from 5.081s to 4.034s. The matched real API task startup improves from 5.533s to 4.348s, but total reply time changes from 17.933s to 20.221s because agent work varies. This establishes a startup saving of about one second, not a consistent total-reply speedup. A real candidate follow-up passed in 20.146s and resumed the same saved session. The loopback fixture makes no external model requests; failed initial probes remain retained. - The startup change passes 107 focused runtime/effort/lease tests, 53 profile checks (one skipped), TypeScript checking and the TypeScript-only runtime build. Native hire fixture checks pass 70 tests; their first local run retained a socket-hangup failure and stale OpenCode expectation, both accounted for before the passing rerun. Broader required checks run in cloud CI. ## Risks - Missing packages, authentication rejection, unsupported settings and unavailable models must fail explicitly. Existing agents retain saved execution; explicit runner changes use existing revision/session invalidation. - Subscription follow-up remains unverified; remaining live acceptance uses API keys per human steering. Historical accounting holds and the separate $50 ceiling remain intact. - The subscription acceptance limit remains explicit for review. No Claude database migration is introduced. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution and browser testing. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] Focused local tests and final cloud verification pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: credit Paperclip for managed OpenRouter requests (#16850)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - AI connections choose credentials and routes independently of the agent harness. > - OpenRouter assigns app credit from the final request headers. > - Harness defaults can assign Paperclip work to the underlying harness. > - This pull request applies one public Paperclip identity to managed OpenRouter requests. > - The benefit is consistent app credit across supported harnesses and internal model calls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** App attribution for existing OpenRouter connections and explicit provider configurations. **Current behavior** Requests can omit attribution or carry the harness identity. Paperclip does not receive consistent credit in OpenRouter rankings. **Proposed behavior** Use `https://paperclip.ing`, the title `Paperclip`, and the coding categories `cloud-agent,programming-app` for managed requests to OpenRouter. Keep credentials, routing, and unrelated providers intact. **Reason and benefit** The provider URL identifies the app across personal and shared API keys. A search of public issues and pull requests found no duplicate attribution work. This improves existing AI connections and does not add a separate roadmap feature. ## What Changed - Add a shared attribution policy and a parity-checked copy for the standalone Runner. - Apply it to managed Codex, Claude, OpenCode, and Hermes connections, plus native Pi and explicit legacy provider configs. - Preserve attribution across Codex config filtering, Claude environment filtering, OpenCode proxy requests, and model-level overrides. - Attribute direct fast-response and decision-model requests, including custom connections to the OpenRouter endpoint. - Add positive and negative regression tests and provider attribution requirements to the connector playbook. - Advance native Pi to profile 24, preserving historical identities and binding the attribution source in its declaration and release checks. ## Verification - Final head `6df282d2a58c2698e41127443903d6fc85b4b72f`: all CI/status checks passed or were intentionally skipped; Greptile is **5/5**, with zero unresolved review threads. [Final CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39274938069). - Focused server/shared/config suites: 132 tests passed before the final edge-case additions. Expanded adapter suites pass 48 tests; the final OpenCode merge passes 15 tests; global/EU/US endpoint and policy-parity suites pass 26 tests. - Focused Runner suites: 85 tests passed, including model overrides and recovery/config boundaries. Profile installation/environment/config tests subsequently passed 72 tests (one optional distribution test skipped); historical decoding passed 11 tests and updated recovery coverage passed 27 tests. The Rust profile admission test and all five native Pi launch/recovery tests passed. - All 114 managed AI connection tests pass together. They include custom-header preservation for legacy and native Claude runs, both OpenRouter and other gateways, inherited headers, and unresolved secret references. - Actual requests from installed Codex 0.160.0, Claude Code 2.1.245, OpenCode 1.18.34, Pi 0.74.0 and 1.0.0, and the managed Hermes runtime carried all four Paperclip headers. A local endpoint used dummy credentials and returned an intentional 401 after capture. Codex and Claude retry requests retained attribution. This proves outgoing header precedence; it is not a successful model-inference test. The first Claude capture had an argument-separation error and sent no request; correcting the command produced the captured requests. - A live request through `fastResponseModel` completed with `attribution verified`. OpenRouter recorded generation `gen-1792420273-Ez1GUTCc7YuZ1FJMCGob` under app ID `3118063`, at a cost of $0.00000375. The public app record maps that ID to `https://paperclip.ing/`. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed, including a repeat after the review fixes. The final server build stamp records commit `6df282d2a58c2698e41127443903d6fc85b4b72f`. `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - CI first caught the stale Pi source attestation; it is now a new immutable profile. Greptile caught custom-header loss, now fixed and covered by the complete managed-connection suite. The next CI run caught the missing Docker allowlist entry for profile 24; the allowlist and release smoke pins are now synchronized. Local Docker verification cannot run because its daemon socket is absent; The exact Docker context check passed in CI on the final head. - The initial local `pnpm test:run` did **not** pass. It ran across source/build edits, reported chat/tool-access collection failures, three workspace-runtime failures, two new managed-header failures, one Dot Runner readiness failure, and two native-session-resume failures, and was interrupted after the final-head CI server coverage passed. Its secrets suite also reported 91 cases skipped. The isolated tool-access suite passed all 428 tests, and the complete managed-connection suite passed all 114 tests. These retries establish recovery, not the cause of the original local failures; no claim of a successful full local run is made. Final acceptance uses immutable final-head CI plus the focused local and live checks above. - Final-head CI encountered one unchanged UI assertion in `FileViewerSheet.copy.test.tsx` (missing “Copied link” feedback after clipboard completion). That shard passed on the earlier head with identical UI code, and all six clipboard tests passed locally. A timing race around the asynchronous React update is suspected but not conclusively established. The single CI retry passed, with no product/test code changed for it. The earlier failure remains part of this verification record. ## Risks - Native Pi profile 24 requires a fresh provider session when encountering a profile 23 identity; recovery tests cover that boundary. - Harness upgrades can change header precedence. The playbook requires actual request capture when changing provider paths. - Externally managed agents, unmanaged harness settings, and gateways that replace headers need separate qualification. This change does not intercept arbitrary model calls made by task scripts. - The existing OpenRouter entry for the Paperclip URL still displays an old title, “PrettyFly Opus Testing,” and no categories on the final public-page recheck. The live request received credit under that URL's app ID. Public title propagation and leaderboard placement remain controlled by OpenRouter. - Global, EU, and US OpenRouter hosts are recognized explicitly; other subdomains are not treated as OpenRouter. No database migration, credential ownership change, or Paperclip telemetry event is involved. Attribution contains public product constants only. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution, web research, and live API verification. The exact deployment identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — the focused suites listed above; the unsuccessful full local attempt is explicitly recorded, with full final-head coverage supplied by CI - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve repository cache negotiation refs (#16687)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its execution environments. > - A fresh repository task needs an independent checkout before its runner can start. > - The object cache from #16487 should reduce repeated network transfer. > - The cache kept Git objects but dropped remote-tracking refs during its bare clone. > - Git needs those tips to negotiate which objects it already has. > - This pull request preserves the tips in a versioned mirror cache and records explicit cache outcomes. > - The benefit is less repeated transfer and clearer evidence when a cache does not help. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16487 and #16454. No duplicate cache-negotiation fix was found in the public PR search. **What happened?** A valid object cache could make a fresh clone slower. A controlled staging probe took 45.87 seconds and received 184.39 MB even though the reference already held the objects. An earlier probe took 52.33 seconds. An uncached clone took 20.94 seconds. `git clone --bare` copied the pristine checkout's objects, local branches, and tags, but omitted its remote-tracking refs. The source had about 1,200 remote branches. Git could not use the missing tips to negotiate those objects. **Expected behavior** Keep the pristine reference's negotiation tips. Each task must still authenticate online, use the current remote refs, and end with independent Git objects. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Clone a repository with many remote branches into a fresh checkout. 2. Publish a reference with `git clone --bare --no-hardlinks` from that checkout. 3. Clone the remote with `--reference-if-able` and `--dissociate`. 4. Compare with a reference that retains the remote-tracking tips. Use Git Trace2 and count received pack bytes. **Paperclip version or commit** The staging runtime was `27ab902d3db2770ada79c9f42a9c06e1d346f34b`, with Git 2.47.3. The cache implementation was unchanged from #16487. **Deployment mode** Docker on a persistent application volume. The probe used the application file owner and the public Paperclip repository. It did not start agent tasks or alter the application cache. ## What Changed - Publish pristine object caches with `--mirror` to retain remote-tracking tips. - Put cache format version 2 in the key and receipt. The first checkout builds a new generation. Existing generations stay under the current storage limits. - Keep the existing online authentication, current remote refs, credential and company isolation, independent objects, quotas, and fallback behavior. - Add closed Honeycomb cache outcomes and a boolean that states whether a reference was supplied to clone. - Document that a lookup hit or supplied reference does not prove Git avoided transfer. ## Verification - Controlled staging component experiment: a disposable reference copy held exactly the same 210,057 objects as the original. It added 1,187 advertised branch tips whose commits were already in those objects. - Before: 45.87 seconds and 184.39 MB received, one sample in this comparison. - After: 12.20 and 14.58 seconds; median 13.39 seconds. Received pack sizes were 1.99 and 1.95 MB. - All comparison clones used the same current remote HEAD and ended without an alternates file. - The remaining repack took 9.72–9.81 seconds. Checkout file writing took 0.86–0.96 seconds. - The staging experiment restored tips on a disposable cache copy. It did not deploy this patch or measure complete agent latency. - Confirmed both staging scratch locations were empty afterward. The original cache timestamps stayed unchanged. The temporary operator SSH key was revoked and its local files removed. - TypeScript 5.9.3 transpilation reported zero syntax diagnostics across the four changed TypeScript files. `git diff --check` passed. - The new negotiation regression fails with the old `--bare` publisher and passes with the mirror publisher. - Focused Vitest suites: 26 tests passed across repository-object-cache and execution-preparation-timing. These cover independent objects, current refs, unavailable/revoked remotes, scope separation, invalid storage, tracing isolation, and endpoint-off behavior. - The first full focused run passed 24 tests but failed its existing localhost HTTP fixture because the sandbox denied `listen` on `127.0.0.1`. The rerun with local loopback permission passed all 26 tests. - Server semantic typechecking passed with `tsc -p server/tsconfig.json --noEmit` after building the required workspace declarations. Initial attempts lacked generated dependency outputs; the completed dependency build and rerun passed. - A full application build was not run locally. CI passed: 55 checks passed and two optional checks were skipped. Greptile is 5/5 on the current head, with both findings resolved. ## Risks - Version 2 causes one cold cache rebuild. Old cache generations retain their disk usage, and the existing quota can prevent publication. - A cache still needs a full repack to produce an independent task checkout. This PR does not remove that cost. - The component experiment establishes the negotiation effect on staging. It does not establish an end-to-end agent speedup or the under-30-second goal. - The new trace fields remain behind the existing OTLP gate. Their values are closed enums or a boolean. They export no refs, paths, URLs, cache keys, credentials, or error text. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with code and tool use. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(acpx): add a positive control to stalled-tool permission evidence (#16769)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The ACPX engine runs Claude agents. A watchdog ends a turn when a pending tool call gets no update for 30 minutes. > - #16688 added a field to stalled runs. The field records if the stalled call's permission request reached Paperclip. > - Recent stalled runs show `acpStalledToolPermissionRequested: false`. We can read this as "the call stopped before its permission request". That reading is correct only if calls of the same kind usually send a request. > - We have no data that shows if finished calls of that kind sent requests. Thus we cannot tell if the missing request is a real signal. > - This pull request records a positive control: the number of finished calls of the stalled call's kind, and how many of them sent a permission request. > - The benefit: the next stall event tells us if the missing request locates the stall, or if it gives no information. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16688 **What happened?** Runs stop with the stalled-tool watchdog error. The diagnostics show that the stalled call sent no permission request. The diagnostics do not show if finished calls of the same kind sent requests. **Expected behavior** The stalled-run diagnostics contain enough data to show if a missing permission request is a real signal. **Steps to reproduce** A pending tool call gets no ACP update for 30 minutes. The watchdog ends the turn. The run result contains the stalled-tool fields. ## What Changed - `packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.ts`: when the watchdog fires, count the finished calls of the stalled call's kind, and count how many of them sent a permission request. Write the counts to the run result as `acpSettledSameKindToolCount` and `acpSettledSameKindToolPermissionRequestedCount`. - `server/src/services/run-failure-diagnostics.ts`: allow the two new fields as non-negative safe integers. Other values are dropped. - `doc/observability.md`: explain how to read the two fields with the existing permission-request field. - Tests: extend the existing stalled-tool tests in `execute.test.ts` and `run-failure-diagnostics.test.ts`. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts` in `packages/adapter-utils`: 244/244 pass. - `pnpm exec vitest run src/services/__tests__/run-failure-diagnostics.test.ts` in `server`: 115/115 pass. - Mutation check: remove the kind filter, or count every finished call as "requested". Each mutation makes the stalled-tool test fail. - `tsc --noEmit` passes in `packages/adapter-utils` and in `server`. Note: the full `server` `typecheck` script did not run locally, because the runner vendor build step failed in this sandbox. I ran `tsc --noEmit` directly. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only adds two counts to the run result after the watchdog fires. It does not change the decision to stop the turn, or any permission decision. - The fields hold only counts. They contain no tool titles, inputs, or identifiers. This is the run-log and run-result path. It is not Telemetry. Harden Board CLI approval and native verification fixtures (#16482)
Preserve governed Board CLI authority and strict verification fixtures on the Muse stack.
Keep approval/cancel ownership, current membership/key authority and durable first-change audit atomic. Bound Retry-After scheduling within the original challenge; never automatically resubmit consent. Retain descriptor ownership until identity-based cleanup and close it on success and error. Keep strict Git-origin and synchronized provider-entry fixture assertions.
Related public work: LukeAbell's existing PR #13919 proposes the same production descriptor-lifetime fix. This independently measured local integration retains the original tests and adds real-descriptor coverage. Do not treat this local integration as ownership of that contribution.

fix(acpx): record whether a stalled tool call's permission request arrived (#16688)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Hosted `claude_local` runs use the ACPX engine. Claude can start
background subagents, and those subagents call the runtime MCP tools
that Paperclip attaches.
> - #16671 added a stalled-tool watchdog. It ends a Claude turn when a
pending tool call gets no ACP update for 30 minutes. That PR said the
most likely cause of the stall is a lost ACP permission round trip, but
it could not prove it.
> - A staging run tripped the watchdog. Two background subagents started
12 MCP calls. ACP reported each call as `pending`, and no call got
another update. The MCP gateway logs show the 9 earlier calls from the
parent agent, but no request from the 12 subagent calls.
`MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT` (15 minutes) did not end them. So the calls stalled
before Claude sent them to the MCP server.
> - The run record cannot say if the permission request for a stalled
call reached Paperclip. Without that fact, the next stall gives no new
evidence about the cause.
> - This pull request records, for a stalled run, whether the stalled
call's permission request reached Paperclip, and how many pending calls
had a permission request.
> - The benefit is that the next stall tells us which side of the
permission round trip stopped, so the real fix can go to the correct
layer.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
- Refs #16671 (the stalled-tool watchdog; this PR tests the cause that
PR suspected)
- Refs #16360 (the MCP client deadline that cannot reach a call that was
never sent)
**What happened?**
A hosted staging `claude_local` run started two background subagents.
Each subagent started six `execute-sentry-tool` MCP calls. ACP reported
all 12 calls as `pending`. None got a result, an update, or an error.
The MCP gateway received no request for them. The parent turn finished
its answer but stayed open for the subagents. After 31 minutes the
watchdog ended the turn with `acpx_tool_stalled`. A single background
subagent with six parallel calls to the same tool did not stall in a
later test.
**Expected behavior**
When a tool call stalls, the run record shows if the call's permission
request reached Paperclip. Then the stall can be put on the agent side
or on the relay side of the round trip.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start an ACP `claude_local` run in a sandbox that uses two background
subagents to call runtime MCP tools.
2. Wait until a subagent's tool calls stay `pending` with no further ACP
update (in staging this happened without a known trigger).
3. See that the watchdog fails the run with `acpx_tool_stalled`, but the
record has no evidence about the permission round trip.

fix(acpx): end Claude turns whose pending tool call stops receiving updates (#16671)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Hosted `claude_local` runs use the ACPX engine. Paperclip sends
runtime MCP servers to Claude, and Claude can start subagents (the Task
tool) that call those MCP tools.
> - #16360 set `MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT` for Claude. That bound works: in a
local test with the same Claude binary, a direct MCP call and a subagent
MCP call to a server that never answers both ended at the bound.
> - A hosted run still hit the 4h sandbox timeout on a release that has
#16360. Its run log shows a subagent that started four MCP calls. ACP
reported the four calls as `pending`, and they never got another update.
About 40 other MCP calls in the same minutes finished in 3–25 seconds.
So the four calls most likely never reached the MCP server, and
`MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT` did not apply to them.
> - The subagent's Task call got an `in_progress` heartbeat every 30
seconds for the full 4 hours. The turn looked active, so no existing
bound stopped it.
> - This pull request adds a stalled-tool watchdog to the ACPX engine.
It ends the turn when a pending tool call gets no update for 30 minutes
and no other tool call finishes in that time.
> - The benefit is that a stalled run fails in about 30 minutes with a
clear error code, not after 4 hours with a general timeout.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
- Refs #16360 (MCP client deadline; this PR covers the stall that the
deadline cannot reach)
- Refs #15962 (stop-time diagnostics that showed the pending tools and
their age)
**What happened?**
A hosted `claude_local` run gave lookups to two subagents. One subagent
started four MCP tool calls. ACP reported each call as `pending`. No
call got a result, an update, or an error. The other subagent finished
in 3 minutes. The stalled subagent's Task call got a heartbeat every 30
seconds, so the last-event age at stop was only 28 seconds. The oldest
pending tool was 3h58m old. The sandbox execution timeout ended the run
after 4 hours.
**Expected behavior**
A tool call that never gets a result ends the turn after a bounded time.
The run fails with an error that names the stall.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start an ACP `claude_local` run that uses a subagent to call runtime
MCP tools.
2. Make one of the subagent's tool calls stay `pending` with no further
ACP update (in production this happened without a known trigger).
3. See that the run continues until the adapter execution timeout,
because the Task heartbeats keep the turn active.

perf: reduce fresh workspace clone and sandbox staging waits (#16487)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Each run needs a private workspace and safe persistence. > - Fresh isolated repository sources download upstream Git history again. > - Sandbox staging also verifies an optional seed cache before it uploads the workspace. > - That verification holds a company lock during a full extraction and hash scan. > - This pull request reuses pristine Git objects through an authenticated remote clone. > - It also overlaps seed verification with upload and moves verification outside the publication lock. > - The benefit is less repeated transfer and less serial preparation work, with the same task isolation and recovery contract. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Fresh task-private repository preparation and inbound sandbox workspace staging. **Current behavior** Each isolated remote source clones the full upstream history. Optional seed verification then extracts and hashes another full tree before upload. One workspace's verification can hold the company cache lock while other workspaces wait. **Proposed behavior** Use a company and credential scoped cache of pristine upstream objects for GitHub HTTPS sources. Each task still clones from the current remote. It disconnects from the cache before publication. Run seed verification alongside upload. Hold the company lock only for final capacity checks and publication. **Reason and benefit** These operations lie on the workspace preparation path. Removing repeated Git pack transfer and serial verification can reduce startup time. Local measurements below cover these boundaries. They do not establish hosted agent latency. Related: #16425, #16454, #16398, #16461, #16468, #16473. The cache inspection and durable folder proposal in #13376 covers separate product work. ## What Changed - Add a pristine upstream Git object cache for fresh isolated GitHub HTTPS sources. Key it by company, repository and current credential fingerprint. Do not store credentials. - Keep online clone authorization and current remote refs. Use `--reference-if-able --dissociate` so task objects remain independent. A reference failure retries once online without the cache and resolves credentials again. - Cap cache storage at 64 entries and 4 GiB per company, with 2 GiB per entry. Skip contended publication. Bound priming by a cooperative five-second budget and a 4,096-entry scan allowance. Keep the existing free-space reserve. - Overlap optional seed verification and required workspace upload. Settle both before returning or deleting temporary files. Recheck quotas and company directory identity under the publication lock. - Keep the independent fresh upstream reproducibility proof, task commits, dirty source copies, ignored files, nested repositories and durable recovery behavior. - Suppress optional Git server-info generation during dissociation so generated storage passes the existing safe-expiration checks. This uses [the supported Git setting](https://git-scm.com/docs/git-config/2.43.0#Documentation/git-config.txt-repackupdateServerInfo). - Add bounded timing phases, regression coverage and two repeatable local benchmarks. No first-party Telemetry or dependency changes. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - Affected adapter suites: 240 tests passed. Native workspace persistence/history and tracing: 33 tests passed. Server checkout/isolation/tracing batch: 53 tests passed. Final object-cache authority, path and capacity suite: 12 tests passed. These batches overlap. - Cache and expiration/restoration lifecycle batch: 34 tests passed. A direct generated-storage check covers cached clones. - Real HTTP Git fixture: a matching cache does not bypass revoked remote access. Other fixtures cover current refs/tags, hidden cached commits, independent objects after cache removal, corruption fallback, credential/company scope, quota limits and publication contention. - Initial restricted runs hit SQLite write and Unix socket permission failures. The adapter batch passed with disposable writable instance state and socket access. The first typecheck rejected the test use of `Promise.withResolvers`; typed deferred gates now use the supported library contract. - Repository benchmark on final head `9047368bf3b7fa2061e00d698b8b51cf4ae1da32`: five alternating samples, real local `file://` Git transport, synthetic 32 MiB history, no injected latency. Median 1143.8 ms to 240.5 ms; ranges 1085.7–1486.6 ms and 188.0–254.8 ms. Received Git pack bytes fell from 33,569,788 to zero. Initial cache priming took 1208.4 ms and is reported separately. - Sandbox benchmark, five alternating samples per mode on 10,000 files with real packing, extraction and verification: with a controlled 3-second transfer delay, median 9.450 s to 7.620 s (ranges 9.280–12.115 s and 7.296–7.983 s). With no injected delay, median 6.808 s to 6.450 s (ranges 6.255–7.029 s and 5.709–6.902 s). The no-delay ranges overlap; local copying competes with verification for disk. Both modes verify final tree contents, ignored-file exclusion and Git HEAD. These are synthetic local fixtures, not hosted agent runs. - Reproduce with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-repository-object-cache.ts` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-workspace-staging.ts --baseline-ref=307eb16c0c --transfer-delay-ms=3000`. - Prior head `af766bc820` received Greptile 5/5 with no findings. Its E2E shard 7 failed in `plan-task-fixture` cleanup: company deletion raced an `activity_log` foreign key. That fixture has no provider run or Git workspace. The failure is retained here; final-head CI must pass. The corrected corruption fixture now forces a pack and verifies a real damaged archive. Current head `9047368bf3b7fa2061e00d698b8b51cf4ae1da32` has Greptile 5/5 with no review threads or findings. Final head has 55 passing checks and two optional Storybook skips. [The first workspace-shard attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38802441857/job/116655485350) passed all 1,778 cases, then reported a late `EPIPE` from unchanged `server-utils.ts` while the ACP reuse test was active. That case mocks workspace preparation and passed locally in isolation. [Its single retry on the same commit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38802441857/job/116659728034) passed, as did the dependent verification gate. The earlier E2E cleanup fixture passed on this final head. Both initial failures remain recorded here. A full local suite was not duplicated; the affected boundaries were run locally and the complete suite runs in CI. ## Risks - First cache population adds local copying. Cold clones, credential rotation, capacity exhaustion and a corrupt cache retain the online clone path. No eviction is added. Cached data is bounded, but many companies can each consume their allowance. - Individual filesystem calls and cleanup can exceed the cooperative priming budget. Failed reference clones make one additional online attempt. - Parallel verification and upload compete for disk and CPU. The local no-delay benchmark shows a smaller gain than a slow-transfer case. Verification still checks contents before cache publication, and required upload failures remain failures. - Local fixtures do not prove hosted throughput or the 15–30-second end-to-end target. The fresh checkout still writes its working tree, and model startup, copyback and other preparation costs remain. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, source editing, shell tools and test execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal task identifiers - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(adapter-utils): allow sandbox agents to read run diagnostics (#16575)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its execution history. > - Sandbox agents use a callback bridge to reach the control plane. > - The API already provides authorized run diagnostics. > - The bridge denied those read routes before the API could check access. > - Health scans could see task activity but could not inspect failed runs. > - This pull request admits exact GET routes on both bridge transports. > - Linked task results also apply the caller's task-read filter. > - Agents can inspect failures through their existing run identity. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A sandbox health scan received `403 Route not allowed` for run history, run details, events, and task recovery records. The same agent could read task activity and connected provider state. The bridge stopped these diagnostic requests before they reached the API. **Expected behavior** The bridge should admit the existing diagnostic GET routes. The API must still enforce company and task access and redact run content. Execution and recovery writes must stay denied by these rules. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start an agent in a sandbox with the normal callback bridge. 2. Use its injected API credential to request company run history. 3. Request a run's details or events. 4. Observe the bridge's route denial before the API handles the request. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced with the callback route list on master at `9f4a956b906`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server with a managed sandbox. Both queue and HTTP/2 transports use this route list. Related work: Refs #15854 adds separate cost-read routes to this list. It does not add run diagnostics. Searches found no duplicate run-diagnostic change. ## What Changed - Admit nine existing diagnostic GET paths: company history and live runs; run details, events, logs, workspace operations and task links; task runs and recovery records. - Reject other methods, extra path segments, execution control, recovery resolution, and provider-trace administration. - Filter linked tasks by the caller's task-read predicate in both activity and original-task queries. Keep those results in the run's company. A readable run must not expose private task titles. - Test both route lists and the HTTP/2 request path. Preserve query parameters and controller denial responses. Add a database regression with public and private tasks linked to a readable company run. - Document bounded diagnostic reads, private-run stubs, access checks, and credential handling in the agent API reference. Update both affected run access maps with the sandbox entry points and verification limits. ## Verification - Passed both bridge suites: 139 tests. - Passed the server run-route, activity-route, and secret-redaction suites: 117 tests, including the new task-link filter test. The cold route-import test needed a 30-second timeout on this host. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, the adapter-utils typecheck, both generated capability checks, and `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`. - Attempted `pnpm test:run`. The bundled PostgreSQL binary cannot start on this host. The native session suite reported 15 database startup failures; the privacy suite skipped its 15 cases. Stopped that full local attempt after those failures. No full local-suite pass is claimed. The final 16-case privacy suite also skipped locally for the same host limitation; Linux CI ran all 16 cases successfully. - One unchanged queue-response test hit a file-read race during the combined local run. A separate rerun of both complete bridge suites passed all 139 cases. The transient race was not independently isolated; the original failure is retained in this record. - All CI gates pass on head `97c65cec459d3fc2787083d05ae6ec51e3fd7b70`. Linux CI passed all 16 database-backed run privacy cases, including the new public/private task-link regression. These also cover private-run denial, authorized owner/reviewer reads, redacted list stubs, credential diagnostics, and deleted-task handling: [serialized shard 1](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38925932547/job/117057907621). - Apex reviewed the final head at 5/5. Both findings are addressed and their review threads are resolved. - After deployment, run a new sandbox audit. Confirm it can list and inspect authorized failed runs without a board credential. This has not been deployed or live-tested by this PR. ## Risks - Sandbox agents can reach more diagnostic GET routes. The existing server access checks and redaction still apply. - Linked task results now omit tasks that the caller cannot read. Authorized task links remain visible. - This change does not grant execution control or recover a failed workspace. - Existing bridge sessions may need a new run to load the updated route list. - No schema, credential, UI, workflow, or lockfile change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with implementation and verification. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: code editing, shell execution, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(adapter-utils): fix feedback request index in bridge round trip (#16507)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Sandbox agents use the callback bridge to call the Paperclip API. > - The bridge round-trip test checks request delivery and credential removal. > - #12785 added an accepted API-key request before the feedback request. > - The feedback assertions still read request 2, which is now the GitHub credentials request. > - This PR checks request 3 and verifies that all four accepted requests reached the host. > - This restores the shared test gate while retaining the Unicode payload and token checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related PR: #12785 introduced the stale feedback index. The reported failure appears on #16486 and master. Searches for `workspaces-b`, `sandbox-callback-bridge`, `surrogate`, and `EncoderFallbackException` found no duplicate fix. **What happened?** The `General tests (workspaces-b)` job fails on PRs and master. The hosted PR job and AWS master job both report `System.Text.EncoderFallbackException` for an unpaired `\uD83D`. The runner exits during the test step and does not upload that step's log. The unchanged master test reproduces a deterministic assertion failure at the feedback request. It compares `/runtime-tools/github/credentials` with `/api/companies/company-1/agent-commentary` and prints a diff containing 5,000 crying emoji. The assertion output is the likely trigger for the runner's Unicode logging crash. - [Reported PR job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38818474563/job/116719880033) - [Master job with the same runner exception](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38821128038/job/116717690951) **Expected behavior** The test checks the actual feedback request, verifies its full payload, and confirms that its authorization header is removed. Both shared CI lanes complete normally. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Check out master at `c4a16cbe981f96e2756c7014103c88da67e5514f`. 2. Install dependencies with pnpm 9.15.4. 3. Run `node_modules/.bin/vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.test.ts -t 'round-trips localhost bridge requests'`. 4. Observe the feedback assertion reading the preceding GitHub credentials request. **Paperclip version or commit** Master at `c4a16cbe981f96e2756c7014103c88da67e5514f`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. GitHub-hosted PR CI and AWS post-merge CI. ## What Changed - Assert that four accepted requests reached the host. - Check feedback delivery and authorization stripping on request 3. - Retain the large Unicode payload and all existing authentication checks. ## Verification - Unchanged master: the focused round-trip test fails at the stale feedback index. - Fixed branch: all 68 tests in `sandbox-callback-bridge.test.ts` pass with real localhost gateways. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` passes. - `git diff --check` passes. - Exact CI group: `node scripts/run-vitest-stable.mjs --mode general --group general-workspaces-b` passes (4,800 tests passed, 28 skipped across 17 projects). - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils build` passes. - Greptile reviewed current head `3de15d3374354809ea84ca4df5f93c2473715f02`: 5/5, success, no comments or actionable findings. - All GitHub checks pass on current head `3de15d3374354809ea84ca4df5f93c2473715f02`: 55 successful checks and 2 intentional skips, including `workspaces-b`, build, typecheck, Runner verification, and e2e. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was started and stopped after the CI test lanes passed; it did not complete locally. No worktree-owned test processes remained afterward. - Full local typecheck and build were attempted. Both stop at the Runner Rust commands because `cargo` is absent from the shell PATH. The changed package typecheck passes. The complete repository typecheck and build pass in CI. - The first sandboxed local reproduction could not bind localhost (`EPERM`). It was repeated with listener permission and reached the deterministic assertion failure described above. ## Risks Low risk. This changes three test lines. Runtime behavior, credentials, workflow settings, and payload coverage stay the same. The GitHub runner Unicode logging defect remains upstream; this fix removes the incorrect assertion that triggers it in this test. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, and command execution. The exact runtime model identifier and context window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(adapter-utils): accept the bridge token in X-API-Key (#12785)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An agent can run inside a sandbox. The sandbox callback bridge is the loopback gateway that lets the agent call the Paperclip API from inside that sandbox > - The gateway authenticates each local call with a per-run bridge token. It read that token from the `Authorization: Bearer <token>` header only > - The run hands the agent that token in `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, next to `PAPERCLIP_API_URL` (`execution-target.ts`). The token is named an API key, and the public Paperclip API documents that an API key goes in the `X-API-Key` header > - An agent that follows the documentation therefore sends `X-API-Key` first, and its first call fails with 401 `Invalid bridge token.` > - The agent then retries with a bearer header and the same token. The run still succeeds, but it wastes a turn and it can leave a confused agent trying unrelated repairs > - This pull request makes both generated gateways read the bridge token from `X-API-Key` when the request carries no bearer token > - The benefit is that a documented header convention stops producing a needless failure, at no cost to the token check ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing issue found. I searched the repository for open pull requests matching `x-api-key` and `bridge token`. Nothing addresses the in-sandbox gateway header convention. The closest neighbours are unrelated: #12632 (Composio `mcp.headers.x-api-key`) and #12120 (the HTTP/2 transport for this bridge, already merged). The problem follows `bug_report.yml`: **What happened?** An agent running in a sandbox calls the Paperclip API through the loopback callback bridge. When it sends the credential as `X-API-Key: <bridge token>`, the gateway answers `401` with `{"error":"Invalid bridge token."}`. The token in that header is the correct per-run bridge token. **Expected behavior** The gateway accepts the correct per-run bridge token in either header convention. The public API documents `X-API-Key`, so an agent that follows the documentation succeeds on its first call. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a run whose agent executes in a sandbox execution target, so the callback bridge is active. 2. The run exports `PAPERCLIP_API_URL` (the loopback bridge origin) and `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY` (the bridge token) into the sandbox environment. 3. From inside the sandbox, call the bridge with that key in the documented header: ```bash curl -i -H "X-API-Key: $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY" "$PAPERCLIP_API_URL/api/agents/me" ``` 4. The response is `401 {"error":"Invalid bridge token."}`. 5. Repeat the same call with `-H "Authorization: Bearer $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY"`. The response is `200`. **Paperclip version or commit** Branched from `master` at `06c0e883f`. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted Kubernetes, with the agent in a sandbox execution target and a local model behind an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific (core bug). Observed with a local-model adapter on a sandboxed lane. Any agent that follows the public API documentation sends this header. **Additional context** The variable name is the trigger. The run calls the credential `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, and an agent that has read the public API documentation knows an API key goes in `X-API-Key`. Paperclip's own in-prompt guidance uses `Authorization: Bearer $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, so the two conventions sit side by side. Across 12 observed runs on that lane, the agent's first bridge call used `X-API-Key` in 6 runs. Every one of those runs recovered by retrying with a bearer header and the same token. In some runs the agent first tried unrelated repairs, such as writing a test comment, before it changed the header. ## What Changed - Add one `readBridgeToken(req)` helper to the generated in-sandbox gateway source. The helper returns the bearer token from `Authorization` when the header carries one. It otherwise returns the `x-api-key` header value, or an empty string. - Use that helper in both generated gateway request handlers: the file-mode queue gateway and the HTTP/2 gateway. Both previously repeated the same two lines of bearer parsing. - The token still goes to the same `timingSafeEqual` comparison. The change does not alter the comparison, the token, or its lifetime. - Extend the file-mode round-trip test to cover an `X-API-Key` request with the right token, an `X-API-Key` request with a wrong token, and the fact that the header never reaches the host. - Add one HTTP/2-path test that covers the same three cases, and that proves a bearer token still wins when a request carries both headers. ## Verification Commands run on this branch: ``` node_modules/.bin/vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.test.ts Test Files 1 passed (1) Tests 52 passed (52) cd packages/adapter-utils && ../../node_modules/.bin/tsc --noEmit 0 errors in the two files this pull request touches ``` Both new tests are real regression guards. With the test file in place and the source change reverted, each one fails with `expected 401 to be 200`: the file-mode round-trip test and the HTTP/2 test. Both pass with the source change applied. A reviewer can confirm the security properties by reading two things. First, `tokensMatch` in the generated source is unchanged, so the constant-time comparison against the same per-run token is unchanged. Second, `allowedHeaders` in the same source is a closed allowlist of `accept`, `content-type`, `if-match`, and `if-none-match`. `normalizeHeaders` drops every other header, so neither `authorization` nor `x-api-key` leaves the sandbox on either transport. The independent host-side check in `http2-bridge-server.ts` is untouched, because each gateway sets `authorization: Bearer <token>` on the request it forwards. **ROADMAP.md check:** I grepped `ROADMAP.md` for `bridge`, `x-api-key`, `redaction`, and `sandbox callback`. There were no matches. This is a small bug fix in an existing subsystem, so it does not overlap planned core work. **Duplicate search:** I searched pull requests in this repository for `x-api-key` and `bridge token`. No open or merged pull request changes how the in-sandbox gateway reads the token. ## Risks Low risk. - The change widens which header the gateway reads. It does not widen what the gateway accepts. A request still needs the exact per-run bridge token, and it still passes the same constant-time comparison. - A bearer token keeps priority. A request that carries both headers behaves exactly as it did before, which a test now pins. - A caller that presents a non-bearer `Authorization` header and a valid `X-API-Key` header now succeeds instead of failing. This is intentional: the bridge only ever issues bearer tokens, so no bridge caller relied on that failure. - The header allowlist already excluded `x-api-key`, so no forwarded request changes shape. - No migration, no configuration change, and no behavior change for a caller that already sends a bearer token. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), extended thinking at high effort — verify before merge. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes — no documentation describes the bridge's header convention, so there is nothing to update - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --- <em>**[@superbiche](https://github.com/superbiche)** · contributor · drafted with Claude Opus 5, reviewed before posting; the voice and decisions are mine.</em> |

perf(ci): shorten the test execution critical path (#16434)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Contributors wait for the full PR workflow before they can deliver fixes. > - Server shards still execute independent files in series, and a single Runner file serializes two long real-clock waits. > - Faster work outside the critical path does not prove a faster workflow. > - Overlap independent files while preserving isolation, test cases and real production deadlines. > - Compare complete baseline and candidate workflows, separating queue delay from execution cost. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16429. Related duration refresh: #12577. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The elapsed time from PR CI creation to the last required check. **Current behavior** General server shards use one worker. One Runner transport file takes about 333 seconds on Linux, including over 100 seconds in two real-clock regressions. These are the longest verification lanes after #16429. **Proposed behavior** Run independent general-server files in at most two isolated forks. Move the two intact Runner deadline regressions into a separate file to overlap their waits in the existing pool. Run two chat partitions per existing job, each with its own temporary home and embedded PostgreSQL. Preserve serial execution within files and every assertion and timing boundary. ## What Changed - Qualify both serial and parallel forks with real worker processes, isolated homes/configuration, timers, globals and environment. - Require both parallel workers to arrive before either exits. - Use two isolated forks for sharded general-server tests; retain one worker with an explicit shared test database. Other test groups keep their existing concurrency. - Extract the lease-expiry and Pi cold-admission regressions verbatim into a separate Runner test file; retain real waits and process/lease assertions. - Split each sharded chat job into two independent invocations; preserve serial shared-database execution. Await both children before failing the parent. Prove disjoint coverage and failure propagation. - Update the paired Linux benchmark to compare a complete general-server shard with identical case inventories. - Document concurrency and deadline-test placement. No production behavior, workflow topology or runner count changes. - Allow 15 seconds for snapshot integration cases that cold-start multiple real TypeScript workers. On the repeat, one-worker cases took 2.5–3 seconds, so queued or sequential starts could exceed the default five seconds. Preserve all cleanup, queue-release and filesystem assertions; these cases do not enforce a production latency deadline. ## Verification All 48 jobs passed on scheduling head `5d718e18` in [attempt 1](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/1). The [bounded repeat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/2) failed two existing snapshot-worker tests at their default five-second timeout. Its shorter duration is **not** counted as a successful performance sample. The latest head `3c894462` adds a targeted test-budget repair and [passes all 48 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38768433532) in **8m06s** (workflow creation to final required workflow job). This is **70 seconds / 12.6% shorter** than the 9m16s intermediate run, but the earlier 9m23s result remains part of the evidence: a stable average improvement is not established. Both branch-protection checks (`ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`) pass. The non-required Superagent Security Scan is still running; external PR scans are separate from this workflow duration. | Measurement | Before | After | What it establishes | | --- | ---: | ---: | --- | | General-server shard, paired on one Linux host | 430.94s | 292.99s | 32.0% faster; identical 1,047 case inventory | | Chat job 1 | 460s | 211s | Same full chat inventory spread across isolated partitions | | Chat job 2 | 408s | 274s | Serial cases within each child, separate PostgreSQL instances | | Chat job 3 | 408s | 216s | Total chat runner time fell from 1,276s to 701s | | Full PR workflow, first chat candidate | 9m16s | 9m23s | Not an end-to-end win in this pair: unchanged Build rose from 365s to 465s | | Full PR workflow, final repaired head | 9m16s | 8m06s | All 48 jobs pass; 70 seconds faster observed, not a controlled causal estimate | - Latest [paired benchmark](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885223) passes. Earlier paired server measurements were 33.3% and 37.4% faster. Unchanged fixture timing noise is not attributed to this PR. - All **1,337 chat case identities and outcomes match exactly** across [before-chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38760937988) and [after-chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/1), without duplicates or removals. Whole-suite records rose from 44,563 to 44,574: three new launcher checks and eight upstream warm-owner tests. Remaining name differences were generated fixture IDs/timestamps/PIDs, not removed tests. - The final run used `m7i-flex.xlarge` for Build (408s), with all chat jobs completing in 238s / 318s / 280s. It used the same actual merge base `afe5b341` as the first chat candidate. Optional profiling was disabled after the bounded measurement experiment; the full 48-job correctness workflow still ran. - The fleet used `m7i.xlarge` for the earlier Build and `m6a.xlarge` for the first chat candidate Build. Several unchanged compile/install/probe phases slowed together. This does not prove hardware alone caused the difference, and full-run attribution must account for runner/cache variance and the upstream base change. - Original full baseline: [all 48 jobs passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38753547876/attempts/2), 12m07s, including a server job that queued over five minutes. It is not a clean basis for attributing the whole elapsed-time reduction to this PR. An interrupted baseline and two misrouted candidate attempts were excluded and preserved; routing/trust rules were not weakened. - Local: 32 sharding/launcher checks pass, including disjoint coverage, shared-database fallback and a failed child that waits for its sibling. Real paired chat partitions passed 416 cases in 217.63s on independent embedded databases. - Both extracted Runner deadline regressions pass unchanged with real waits. An initial local attempt rejected a Node executable under the controller home; the identical binary in an owned non-home path passed without weakening that guard. - Real worker-isolation proof, actionlint and diff checks pass. Latest-head Greptile is **5/5**, with no review threads or actionable findings. - The eight snapshot-worker cases pass locally with a private `PAPERCLIP_HOME`. The first direct local invocation failed to open the default-home lock database under the sandbox; no production guard was changed. ## Risks Parallel files and paired chat databases may expose shared-state assumptions or increase peak memory. Cases stay serial within each invocation, and explicit shared databases keep the serial path. Complete server coverage and the full 48-job CI workflow pass. Check external required PR scans before merge; the full-workflow measurements are observational and do not establish a steady 12.6% speedup. Queueing, cache state and runner variance must be distinguished from execution improvements. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository inspection, code execution and GitHub tools. The exact serving model suffix and context capacity are not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green (48 jobs; both required branch-protection checks pass; non-required external security scan pending) - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(observability): detail workspace and connector preparation (#16454)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares a repository, sandbox workspace, and connector access before an agent can reply. > - Existing traces measure large preparation phases but leave important work inside those phases unclear. > - Repository source materialization and Browser Use discovery can do more work than their callers suggest. > - New detail must preserve access checks, run ownership, and the existing work order. > - This pull request adds fixed OpenTelemetry spans inside those operations. > - Operators can use one deployed trace to select the next performance fix. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16419, #16425, #16428. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Startup traces for server workspace preparation, native sandbox synchronization, and connector assignment resolution. **Current behavior** Workspace and connector aggregate spans can take many seconds. The trace does not separate private source cloning, seed reuse, archive work, progress persistence, or each connector resolver. Browser Use resource selection builds the full authorized tool catalog. The configuration and native backend can each resolve connector assignments. **Proposed behavior** Show the awaited work as fixed child spans. Separate discovery queue wait from catalog construction. Preserve the initiating run context when another run releases a scheduler slot. Add no new lifecycle event writes for workspace detail callbacks. **Reason and benefit** Operators need evidence about the hosted critical path before another performance change. These spans distinguish filesystem work, provider transfer, authorization, transaction entry, locks, and reporting overhead. **Breaking changes** None. Authorization, query order, transaction ownership, synchronization, existing progress events, and task results retain their contracts. The change adds opt-in Observability spans under the existing OTLP endpoint gate. ## What Changed - Trace private source directory setup, Git credentials, clone, requested ref, source identity, and checkout publication. - Trace sandbox source capture, seed cache/replay, shallow clone and archive, overlay copy/archive, verification, upload, warm stamps, and descriptor persistence. - Separate existing awaited progress reporting from useful workspace work. Keep new detail callbacks trace-only. - Trace each connector resolver and Browser Use catalog/grant work. Split discovery queueing, descriptor sources, and policy evaluation. - Trace Slack authority, credential reads, catalog synchronization, transaction entry/settlement, and advisory locks. - Update the real filesystem staging trace expectations and the Honeycomb investigation guide. - Add a real scheduler regression for a queued job released by another run. Assert run ownership, parent spans, and exactly one completed queue span. ## Verification - Passed: server and adapter-utils TypeScript checks (`pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsc --noEmit` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec tsc --noEmit`). - Passed: 252 checks across 9 focused files. These cover real filesystem staging, native workspace synchronization, trace ownership, endpoint gating, and workspace preparation. - Passed after review: 26 trace-context, tracing-failure, and discovery-scheduler checks across 3 files (these overlap the first run). The new queued-discovery regression fails when context binding is removed and passes after restoration. An initial submillisecond timestamp assertion was replaced with explicit span-completion order to avoid SDK clock precision assumptions. - Passed on implementation commit `0e68968a4bd61001893d833f281f12bb110edbe1`: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later commit updates only an engine test expectation. - The first CI workspace lane found an old engine trace-tree expectation. It expected the earlier span set. The updated assertion now checks the new detail spans, their parents, and single completion. Its targeted executor check passes. - The full test suite, build, release registry, and end-to-end gates pass in CI on final head `40e37d89ef679109d60a96bb5731a0616efeaa43`: 55 passing checks and 2 optional Storybook skips. The full suite was not duplicated locally after the focused run. - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5. No unresolved review threads remain. - After deployment, filter Honeycomb by the hashed run ID and verify `service.version`. Inspect `heartbeat.prepare.workspace`, `runtime_selection.workspace_sync`, and the connector assignment parents. The guide in `doc/observability.md` explains each new family and the nested intervals. - No hosted run has used this new instrumentation yet. Local checks cannot establish hosted latency improvement. ## Risks - Tracing adds spans when an operator configures an OTLP endpoint. Detail remains capped at 16 spans per phase per execution attempt. - Parent and child durations overlap. The documentation explains how to avoid counting them twice. - A discovery job can start in another run's scheduler continuation. The bound callback preserves the initiating async context. - New spans export fixed names and the existing hashed run ID. They add no paths, repository URLs, connector resource IDs, credentials, tool schemas, or exception text. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session.

Trace execution preparation and durable response persistence (#16419)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares an execution environment before it starts an agent. > - Operators need to distinguish preparation, provider wait, and response persistence. > - Existing preparation phases start separate traces, and the native session trace ends before the final response is saved. > - This pull request adds an execution-attempt trace and detailed spans at the existing work boundaries. > - The benefit is a measurable startup and settlement path without changing execution policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator-configured OpenTelemetry tracing for agent preparation, startup, and durable response storage. **Subsystem affected** Server orchestration, native Runner startup, and the Honeycomb run link. **Current behavior** Preparation phases start independent roots. Workspace lock waits, authorization groups, runtime asset work, provider-pack fallback, and the gap after provider completion are hard to attribute. **Proposed behavior** Use a server-owned async context for each execution attempt. Parent nested work to that attempt. Link the separately sampled native session because its ingress and queue history can begin earlier. Record transaction entry, lock waits, grouped authorization, asset preparation, artifact fallback, copyback, and response commit. **Reason and benefit** Operators can identify expensive work from recorded boundaries instead of inferring the cause from elapsed time. Nested and concurrent durations remain visible and must not be added together. **Breaking changes** No API or execution-policy change. New Observability span names and closed count attributes are documented. The existing local run-performance schema also records the additional provider-pack and harness measurements. Refs: #16178, #16205, #16330. ## What Changed - Add `task.execution_attempt` with same-run async ownership, independent root sampling, and native-session links. - Measure workspace transaction entry and settlement, advisory and row waits, source scans, reader groups, notifications, and writes. - Measure runtime selection and each concurrent instructions, skills, and MCP branch. Separate manifest, cache, materialization, and verification work. - Measure provider-pack discovery, verified reuse or upload, final verification, and remote harness state checks. - Measure workspace settlement, accounting, liveness, response authorization, comment commit, and publication enqueue. - Preserve the silent endpoint-off path, including when another library has registered a tracer. Bound repeated detail spans to 16 per name per attempt. - Extend the Honeycomb run link and document the actual coverage and remaining gaps. ## Verification - After resolving the conflict with retained-reader batching on `b98cdaea531c8447637cd4dcc19c61b3f5f41844`, all 61 targeted query, authorization, workspace-preparation and trace-boundary tests passed. The server typecheck passed. Reader tests still bound query count, avoid loading retained run payloads and enforce fresh project grants on every publication attempt. - Before that base integration, the tracing/exporter group passed 855 tests with 2 optional-SDK skips across 10 files and no inherited OTLP endpoint. It covers real PostgreSQL waits/rollback, durable response commit, assembled heartbeat preparation, concurrent parentage, sampling and tracer failure isolation. Native workspace/history tests passed 23 cases. These results remain supporting evidence for the unchanged tracing paths. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed during implementation. Full sharded CI, release validation, E2E and Apex 5/5 passed on prior head `8cebad80f3856dbcff6f3a6d5d34880ff77a20f2`. Fresh CI, security and Apex review are required on the current head before merge. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. No styles changed. - Earlier CI runs exposed exact-source-expression assertions changed by wrappers, missing run hashes on transaction-boundary spans, and sampling fixtures without an enabled endpoint. The fixes preserve the calls, add the declared hash and span cap, and enable tracing explicitly in the sampling fixtures. Focused repairs passed; the full prior-head CI passed after those repairs. Earlier failed run: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38729131366. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the base advanced during that process. Its mixed-version results are not final-head evidence. A full local-suite pass is not claimed. - The old-head Superagent scan stalled at 35%. The current head has a fresh scan; no security pass is inferred from the old pending result. - No deployed Honeycomb acceptance is claimed by this code change. ## Risks - Enabled tracing creates more spans. Repeated detail spans are bounded, and inventories use group spans. - The attempt and native session remain linked traces. Historical queue time can precede the attempt, and nested intervals overlap. - A committed comment proves durable server storage. Publication enqueue and realtime dispatch do not prove external delivery or browser paint. - New custom attributes use only the existing run hash and validated file/byte counts. No SQL, paths, permissions, content, or exception text is added. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The serving model ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, tools, code editing, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: isolate workspace snapshots from controller work (#16414)
Move native sandbox snapshot captures off the controller callback queue while preserving the existing capture and restore contract. Keep legacy adapters inline, bound captures to two workers, and verify cleanup and reordered worker completion. Validation: 461 affected cases, full typecheck/build, exact-head CI/E2E/Superagent and Apex 5/5. The full local canonical suite remains running; no full local pass or under-30-second staging response is claimed. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test: consolidate owner fixtures and retain real regression proof (#16047)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tests protect sandbox execution, run recovery, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat the same setup and prove the same result more than once. > - These copies add maintenance work and can hide weak assertions. > - Each cut needs a retained test that proves every distinct contract. > - This pull request consolidates repeated setup and removes twelve redundant executions. > - It also replaces two weak assertions with checks of real outputs. > - The benefit is 2,831 fewer test lines with clearer regression proof. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression strength of the existing Vitest owner suites. **Subsystem affected** Sandbox adapter utilities, server heartbeat recovery and environment capabilities, and the board UI. **Current behavior** Tests copy database rows, query builders, render calls and runtime inputs. Some cases repeat an existing contract. One token test omits a real bridge credential. A PostHog host comparison can compare absent controls. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers with fresh values and the same action order. Keep each distinct contract in an owner test. Check real bridge credentials and fixed PostHog method states. Carry the exact persisted first-run success assertion into the stronger cancellation keeper. **Reason and benefit** The ten test files shrink by 2,831 net lines. Twelve redundant executions retire. All other case tables, inputs, security boundaries, timeouts and cleanup rules remain. **Breaking changes** None. This round changes tests and audit evidence only. **Additional context** Refs: #15978, the merged first cleanup. Refs: #16022, the merged prior cleanup. Its squash merge is `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Related open work: #14634 repairs feedback fixture completion; #14477 supplies explicit sandbox fixture tools; #14198 changes cleanup retry behavior in another heartbeat file. This audit preserves those separate action and cleanup contracts. It does not apply their changes. This PR was first stacked on `codex/test-audit-followup`. After #16022 was squash merged, only the two Round 6 commits were replayed onto merged master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. The original stack head is preserved in a local snapshot branch. The current diff contains only ten test files and two evidence files. No merge is requested. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated setup in three sandbox adapter suites. Remove seven redundant executions and retain the real protocol, cleanup and scratch-file checks. Save 875 lines. - Consolidate heartbeat database fixtures and read queries. Retain exact wake cancellation, total run count and the actual first-run success receipt. Remove one duplicate execution. Save 1,372 lines. - Remove two repeated rejected-capability cases. Carry the absent snapshot assertion into the retained runner case. Save 22 lines. - Consolidate UI fixtures and render calls. Remove two repeated connection cases. Replace the weak PostHog comparison with fixed method and required-key checks in both real hosts. Save 562 lines. - Record audit scope, decision and expansion counts, all twelve keeper mappings and deliberate mutation results in the [audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6.md) and [controls evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6-controls.json). ## Verification Source baseline: `a090035cafb29c06f6fca2dbe43561ad866b7c1b`. All ten original test programs are byte-identical at the stacked base `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa`. - Baseline: 1,841/1,841 cases passed in the main thirty-file owner/sibling run. Another 219/219 cases passed in nine extra files. - Preservation: all four proposal packages passed independent review. Whole-program helper expansion retains ordered inputs, callbacks, awaits, queries, fresh allocations and hooks outside the declared assertion migrations and repairs. - Candidate: all 2,048 cases passed across 39 complete owner/sibling files. The main run passed 1,831 cases. The extra run passed 217 cases. Both runs had zero failures and zero skips. - PostHog control: the repaired positive case passed. The original weak case passed with authentication choices removed. The repaired case failed at its fixed OAuth aria-checked assertion under the same mutation. - Eight accepted mutations failed at their intended assertions. They cover bridge-token exclusion, fallback cleanup, READY bytes, real scratch-file preservation, exact wake cancellation, the persisted first-run success receipt, rejected capability snapshots and reachable PostHog method controls. Two original weak cases passed with the same defects. All production source bytes were restored. - Rejected control: changing run status before legacy release timed out before wake cancellation. This result is not counted as assertion proof. Its replacement changed only the persisted receipt after real drain in the existing transaction. It failed at the direct fixed succeeded-row assertion. - No new code comments or 1,000-line threshold crossings were introduced. No production, schema, lockfile or workflow changes are included. On the exact final test sources, later committed as `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build` passed. The required full `pnpm test:run` completed with **exit 1** after **52.14 minutes** on clean, immutable `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`. HEAD and tracked sources remained unchanged. The first general-server group ran 889 files: **882 passed, one failed and six skipped**. Its 18,032 cases were **17,925 passed, two failed and 105 skipped**. The only failing file was `server/src/__tests__/remove-test-home.test.ts`. On macOS, the read-only runtime bundle and symlink cleanup cases returned `ENOTEMPTY`. The permission-error case expects `EACCES` or `EPERM`. Four reported failure entries cover these two cases, including their cleanup errors. The test and helper are byte-identical to previous master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and audit master `e364b92c82`. The default wrapper stopped after that group failed. **Later local groups did not run.** The earlier public-MCP, HTTP log redaction and workspace snapshot failures did not recur. The 39 focused owner/sibling files and all 48 remote CI jobs completed independently. This result is an unresolved macOS cleanup limitation, not full local success. No test, skip, retry, timeout or cleanup rule was changed to hide it. The three adapter files received a whitespace tidy after focused execution. Full runtime AST and string/template/regex byte equality link those tested sources to the final sources. All 134 adapter helper calls were checked again. Replayed code commit `3d3defd2a60595a623045d9e2c6c586f4acb3452` has the exact final test bytes. Evidence commit `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a` adds the report and controls JSON, with one historical ancestry clarification. All ten accepted test hashes and all seven production-owner source guards match. No package, lockfile, workspace, TypeScript, Rust or Vitest dependency manifest changed since the audit snapshot. The [original stack CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38312876910) passed all 48 jobs on head `c171d6c0d603d22bb997c1f9a9bdcd5bcc5d22aa`. Those results are historical stack proof. The [fresh master-context CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223856) completed successfully with **all 48 jobs passed** on current head `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a`. Its tested merge commit was `41292af60c6eb60d477637d23822bb17b08dc07e`, combining workflow base `88bf4c6c1d222f818faa56257efe79207c892a6c` with that head. The delivery commits remain based on pinned master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Both required master checks, `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, passed. Two separate optional Storybook checks were skipped by their scope gate. [Fresh Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16047#issuecomment-6133323165) gives the current head **5/5**, with no findings, inline comments or unresolved review threads. The [current-head commitperclip review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223666) also completed successfully. This PR remains open and draft; no merge is requested. The local macOS failure above remains unresolved. ## Risks - A helper could share a value or capture the wrong binding. Independent expansion and lexical binding checks guard the actual helper calls. - A retired case could contain a distinct assertion. Each cut has an exact keeper map and carried observations. - A mutation could fail before the intended assertion. Controls reject timeouts and earlier failures. The rejected receipt mutation remains in the evidence. - The delivery ancestry changed after the parent squash merge. Exact source hashes preserve the audited tests and producer receipts. Fresh CI and review passed in the current master context; the broad local run remains evidence from its immutable audit snapshot. - The complete local default failed in two unchanged macOS cleanup cases. Later local groups were not run. This limitation remains visible even though focused checks and remote CI passed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with this work. The exact served model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. It used repository tools, code execution, AST analysis and parallel audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(acpx): bound Claude MCP tool calls when runtime MCP servers attach (#16360)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Hosted `claude_local` runs use the ACPX engine. Paperclip gives each
run its runtime MCP servers (for example the `paperclip-assigned` tool
gateway) as ACP `mcpServers` entries.
> - Claude's default MCP tool timeout is far longer than a run. ACP
`mcpServers` entries have no per-server timeout field. So the agent
waits on an MCP call until the call answers.
> - Hosted error reports show runs that end with "Run exceeded the
adapter execution timeout (sandbox)". The stop-time diagnostics from
#15962 show the problem: the agent went silent about 50 seconds into the
run, three tool calls of ACP kind `other` stayed pending, and nothing
ended them until the 4h sandbox backstop.
> - The gateway bounds the remote provider call (10s default, 60s max).
But other steps on the gateway `tools/call` path have no deadline: DB
queries, row locks and pool acquisition, the credential steps before the
provider timer starts, and the stdio child exit wait. One stuck step
holds the agent turn for hours.
> - This pull request gives the agent's MCP client a deadline:
`MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT` for ACP Claude runs that receive runtime MCP servers.
> - The benefit is that a stalled gateway call becomes an MCP error that
the model can see. The turn continues and does not spend the full 4h
execution budget.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
- Refs #15962 (diagnostics that identified the silent turn with pending
tools)
- Refs #15448, #15456, #15850 (related gateway timeout and
connection-health work; this PR does not overlap with them)
**What happened?**
A hosted `claude_local` run sent parallel MCP tool calls. No call
answered. The run stayed silent for about 4 hours. Then the sandbox
execution timeout ended it with "Run exceeded the adapter execution
timeout (sandbox)".
**Expected behavior**
A stalled MCP call ends with an error after a bounded time. The agent
sees the error and continues.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start an ACP `claude_local` run that has runtime MCP servers.
2. Make the gateway `tools/call` request stall (for example, hold a lock
that the request needs).
3. See that the run stays silent until the adapter execution timeout.

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve public identifiers in feedback redaction (#16168)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People rate agent comments and documents to capture feedback. > - Feedback bundles remove credentials and personal information before export. > - The feedback scanner treats ordinary dotted text as JWTs and authentication terms as bearer tokens. > - This pull request checks encoded JWT headers and preserves known authentication terms. > - The benefit is readable feedback context with credential masking kept in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12309 for the related dotted-identifier false-positive report. This PR fixes the separate feedback scanner. It does not close every case in that report. Related PR: #14318 adds fine-grained GitHub token coverage. It addresses a separate credential form and is not duplicated here. **What happened?** Feedback exports replace `api.openai.com`, dotted filenames, and public schema IDs with a JWT placeholder. They also replace the words after `bearer` in phrases such as “bearer tokens.” Five-part encrypted JWTs are only partly masked. **Expected behavior** Keep public identifiers and authentication terms readable. Mask complete credential tokens. Count only text replacements in the redaction summary. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Pass `api.openai.com` or `Use bearer tokens.` to `sanitizeFeedbackText`. 2. Check that the original text is returned and the redaction counts stay empty. 3. Pass a signed JWT or an encrypted JWT to the same function. 4. Check that the full token is replaced and one JWT replacement is counted. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in the feedback scanner on master at `5e8e992df2b3d71f82091b7bbf29fd482854d9f5`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. The defect is in the shared feedback export service and does not depend on deployment mode. ## What Changed - Use the existing JWT header predicate in the feedback scanner. - Match complete three-part and five-part tokens, including direct-encryption tokens with an empty key segment. Accept short token segments in the predicate. - Preserve the closed set of authentication terms already used by the general scanner, including terms inside closing prose delimiters. - Count only replacements that change the text. - Add tests for readable context, credential masking, nested values, and redaction counts. - Document feedback text redaction. ## Verification - Focused redaction and feedback service tests: 89 tests pass across five suites. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` passes. Full local typecheck, tests, and build were attempted. The kernel killed compiler and test processes at the sandbox memory limit of 4 GB. Serial retries and a capped Node heap still could not complete the server compiler. CI runs the full repository checks. - `git diff --check` passes. - Latest commit `0eb8d3fb4257bb79e67fab615a8299ef69230ad8`: **55 checks passed**, including full typecheck, tests, build, and E2E; two optional Storybook checks were skipped. [CI evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38407932875). Both Greptile findings have regression tests and fixes. [Greptile gives this commit 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16168#issuecomment-6146917423), with both review threads resolved. ## Risks - This changes the feedback export matching rules. Public dotted text no longer triggers credential masking by shape alone. - Explicit credential assignments, provider keys, structured secret fields, email addresses, and phone numbers remain masked. Tests cover these cases. - Existing feedback snapshots are not rewritten. No schema change or migration is needed. - The encoded-header check remains a heuristic. It is not a full JWT validator. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The runtime identifies the model as GPT-6. It does not expose the exact provider deployment ID or context window size. The earlier patch and this PR preparation were AI-assisted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): qualify Codex platform packages and cache hosted builds (#16028)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native execution needs a compatible installed daemon and provider dependency. > - The Codex-default work found missing platform packages and clean-install startup failures. > - Release builds also repeat dependency compilation and run preparation serially. > - This prerequisite packages four daemon targets and verifies installed native startup. > - It also caches hosted Cargo dependencies and overlaps JavaScript preparation with compilation. > - Agent creation defaults and experimental gates stay at the current master behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. Refs #15555. Refs #15422. Refs #15926. Refs #15932. Extract runtime and installation support from #15683. This prerequisite has 65 changed files. Creation, onboarding, imports, UI runner selection and graduation remain in the dependent PR. Feature/access maps and the Storybook source catalog stay synchronized. Existing agents keep their execution choices. ## What Changed - Correct the existing runner test fixtures. Reserve owned credential quorum listeners through the existing bounded fixture helper. Keep foreign listeners intact, run actual credential staging once, and preserve its rejection and unchanged-auth assertions. Reuse the durable-resume outer-limit correction. Wait for actual warm-completion and held-authorization callback entry under the existing recovery deadline and surface early request errors. Preserve every semantic assertion. - Retain bounded installation failure diagnostics through the existing qualification receipt upload. Keep the original error, 10-minute deadline and all success checks. - Keep startup ownership until credential preparation and registration drain. Reject duplicate and post-close startup/resume work. Observe shutdown during normal and adopted authentication readiness. Preserve the primary failure and retain private state when cleanup is unconfirmed. - Package Linux x64/ARM64 and macOS Apple Silicon/Intel daemons. Verify target headers, source identities, manifests, and hashes before assembly and installation. - Reuse the existing release producer/consumer workflows. Cache Cargo dependencies by target, OS, compiler, lockfile, and contract inputs. Rebuild workspace binaries. Permit trusted cache writes only for canonical exact-source master pushes. - Overlap JavaScript preparation with native compilation. Join both commands and failure/cancellation cleanup before artifact verification. - Preserve shell positional arguments in the shared SSH runner and apply environment assignments correctly. Reject environment option keys. Six before/after controls and two real SSH subprocess paths pass with zero provider calls; this fix lands before both Codex and Claude defaults. - Admit verified suspended SSH backups during cold controller continuation, using the same full-scope, integrity and lifecycle checks as sandbox targets. Two positive SSH cases fail before; all 14 positive/negative matrix cases pass afterward. Active ownership and corrupt/malformed/nonempty state remain rejected. - Record measured sandbox platform facts through the existing explicit environment probe. Bind facts to the company, effective provider configuration, immutable OCI image and actual captured image binding. Check the returned cleanup receipt. Reject client-authored proof and stale or named boot identities. Creation and discovery allocate nothing. Preserve connection-only behavior. - Resolve the actual remote Codex target and preserve same-host development overrides. Preserve runtime artifact verification. Use actual protocol/model compatibility rather than a numerical CLI version fence. - Resolve the installed Codex login dependency on 64-bit Linux and Mac independently of the daemon libc baseline. Preserve account homes and safe errors. - Fix actual clean-install TOML table comparison. Preserve strict semantic checks, comments, private writes, and malformed-input rejection. Preserve primary startup failures and bounded cleanup. - Document GNU libc 2.39+ and stock Ubuntu sandbox prerequisites. Qualify ARM startup with a scoped distribution profile and unchanged global restrictions. Preserve Windows and Alpine deferral. - Preserve selected and saved native Codex reasoning effort in the existing UI builder, while excluding it from other providers. This small shared correction prevents import edits higher in the stack from dropping effort. - Reuse existing installed-package checks and assertions. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex native payloads. Official npm dependencies supply the consumer's Codex binaries. All Docker and native builds stay remote. ## Verification Candidate: `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It includes current master `e168512f7bdbb6af6ea01954c6d7ed80b91e903e` and preserves prior candidates through ordinary commits. Current [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601686) is successful on attempt 2. GitHub reports 54 successful checks and four conditional skips, including required verify and browser aggregates, workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, both runner shards and [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601609). Fresh current-head Greptile is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. The passing build's clean Grok/Codex report records CI merge source `7a82a37438e6e448abc7cc5caa60dc2519a97be0`, 18 installed packages, omitted Codex payloads, official host-only npm dependencies and zero provider calls. Pi setup and its no-prompt lease verification also pass. The first attempt's single 60-second Node archive download timeout remains retained; its DNS/TLS/download cause remains unknown. One unchanged-source retry was requested through the normal Build-job dialog with debug logging disabled. GitHub's attempt 2 graph reports the other CI jobs as well; no second retry or source/deadline relaxation was made. The [final exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38347027535) is successful on literal `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly and clean installed consumers on Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64. The nine qualification-mode skips are intentional; full CI above covers their ordinary gates. Native builds and Docker assembly ran remotely. The predecessor [`dae808` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38342104102) remains literal historical evidence. Only tests and the dated record differ from that source; runtime, package and workflow code is unchanged. The reused credential fixture correction passes all 42 canonical Node 24 controls with synthetic data and independent matching-source review, and the current hosted runner shard passes. Production credential behavior is unchanged. **Merge hold:** current-source CI, fresh 5/5 review and exact-source package qualification pass. Actual code-owner approval and normal protected merge remain pending. No slice has merged or deployed. GitHub CLI authentication needs refresh; the normal signed-in embedded GitHub UI provided this status without credential workarounds. - The master merge preserves both Storybook source-review appendices and the guarded test-home cleanup. All six existing cleanup controls pass without skips. Master's isolated-home helper/test/setup are byte-identical. The two existing whitespace lines in master's unrelated privacy test remain outside this PR's diff. - Canonical Node 24 passes all 24 existing public-install helper tests. Three narrow added cases prove bounded/redacted failure metadata, symlink exclusions, original exception identity, failed diagnostic writes and no false failure on success. The Mac installer now uses `--timing`; at most two 16 KiB tails and 32 structured entries per tail enter the existing receipt upload. Raw argv, URLs, environment, error text and stacks are omitted. A failed receipt explicitly remains FAILED/unqualified/runtime-not-attempted. The 600,000 ms install deadline and every real package/hash/payload/lock/lifecycle/runtime oracle are unchanged. - Canonical Node 24 reproduces the durable-resume outer timeout under controlled fake latency. Only its outer test limit changes to 15 seconds; internal 500 ms/5 second deadlines and usage/effect assertions remain. Controlled warm-recovery and before-bootstrap authorization scheduling delays reproduce their callback polling failures, while the explicit entry signals pass. Early recovery errors surface unchanged. Independent review is clear. Historical mock binaries support the fixture controls; fresh full hosted CI remains decisive. The original hosted callback failure cause is inconclusive. - The composed runner/surfaces/server/E2E TypeScript checks pass. Map checks pass 35 areas/171 capability IDs. Token gates pass. The existing Storybook catalog passes 223 files/2,210 stories; story IDs and classifications remain intact. The current master had 25 inherited stale fingerprints from three changed map recipes. Only those guarded fingerprints and a source-only review note change; all 92 non-map story/component/fixture inputs remain unchanged. Existing classifications are retained. This proves source structure, not visual or live acceptance. - The 65-file contribution audit has no code file crossing from below 1,000 lines to above the limit. Earlier comment cleanup preserves executable emissions, parsed workflows and action pins. Independent cleanup/catalog and three-file reporting reviews are clear. No new workflow, suite, grader or local native/Docker build was added. **Prior `dae808` gate evidence:** fresh Greptile is 5/5 with four resolved threads, isolated native compilation and the browser aggregate pass. Its first runner shard passes the previous two corrections but fails a different held-authorization cell at the implicit one-second polling deadline. It records 1,672 passes/one failure/three skips. This candidate applies the verified entry-signal correction without changing production deadlines or any semantic assertions. Its original hosted cause remains inconclusive until fresh CI. **Previous-source evidence, kept literal:** the [exact `16a532` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38338806076) passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly, Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. Its fresh review is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. Full CI records 52 successful checks, four conditional skips and the two fixture failures corrected here. This is not a green full-CI candidate or proof for the new source. `64c074fb8da1b31f8d6042c4fef48dc4164e759b` passed [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726938), 54 checks/four conditional skips, [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726787/job/115085895328), and fresh Greptile 5/5/all four resolved threads. The hosted transport suite passed 246 tests and startup trust passed 22, closing that source's local fake-binary limitation. These are historical after reconciliation. The [previous exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332921463) built all four platform daemons and passed public Linux package assembly plus Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. **Intel Mac failed:** its initial scripts-disabled npm install timed out before lifecycle/runtime assertions. The underlying download/resolution/host cause is unknown because the old helper deleted the npm logs. This is the concrete baseline for the diagnostic change. The failed campaign remains failed; no all-platform signoff or automatic retry is claimed. The earlier `a200495` [four-target campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38283695248) and [scoped ARM qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38291535914) remain component evidence. Cargo restores were cold misses; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads. Official npm dependencies supply Codex on the user's platform. Current-source full workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, static/Rust/native tests, all browser shards and exact-source package consumers must pass. New-agent defaults and final managed onboarding belong to #15683. Actual private Cloud composition, warm/cold signup, task/follow-up and rollback compatibility remain later release gates. Source audits found that ordinary managed onboarding does not run the saved platform probe and Cloud distributes named snapshots without a verified final boot-image binding. These dependent release blockers remain open; prequalified E2E fixtures do not close them. Master adds task-workspace migrations; the final image/migrator and previous-image checks must include them. ARM paid task/follow-up and ordinary OS APT installation are not proven. ## Risks - Multi-target packages require source and header agreement. Missing or mismatched artifacts fail explicitly. Existing execution choices remain unchanged. - Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+ and compatible sandbox prerequisites. The scoped hosted ARM preparation does not qualify arbitrary containers or kernels. Windows, 32-bit ARM, and Alpine remain deferred. - Only dependency crates are cached. Preview jobs cannot write trusted caches. Concurrent command cleanup must preserve the primary failure. - Native-free Paperclip packaging retains official Codex npm dependencies. No Codex payload bundling, schema migration, automatic agent migration, or production deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and parallel agents. The exact serving model snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(inbox): keep automatic recovery cleanup out of personal participation (#16063)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The personal inbox uses issue activity to identify a person's participation. > - Issue reads can cancel stale recovery actions and record that cleanup as the reader's action. > - This adds unrelated tasks to the inbox and refreshes their activity timestamps. > - A workspace owner hold can also alternate between creation and cancellation after a task finishes. > - This pull request corrects cleanup attribution, excludes historical read cleanup, and retains one exact owner hold. > - Agents can read authorized issue activity to diagnose the same problem themselves. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15742 excludes logs by the execution-recovery actor from activity timestamps. This PR covers reader-attributed stale recovery cleanup, personal inbox participation, exact workspace owner holds, and sandbox issue activity access. I searched open issues and PRs for recovery inbox and activity bridge fixes. I found no duplicate for this defect. **What happened?** Loading issue lists cancels stale recovery actions under the reader's identity. The personal inbox treats those rows as user participation. One completed issue had hundreds of such rows and no edits or comments by the affected reader. A retained native workspace owner repeatedly creates a verification action that read projections then cancel. Sandbox agents cannot inspect the issue activity because the reverse bridge rejects the route. **Expected behavior** Automatic cleanup belongs to the system and does not add an issue to a reader's inbox. Historical cleanup rows remain auditable but do not count as participation or recent activity. An unresolved physical workspace owner keeps one stable verification action. Agents can inspect activity only for issues their identity may read. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Finish a task whose native run retains an unverifiable workspace owner receipt. 2. Repeat workspace recovery checks and GET requests for issue detail, compact lists, and recovery actions. 3. Observe new recovery action IDs and reader-attributed cancellations in the activity history. 4. Query the personal inbox for that reader and observe the unrelated task. 5. From a sandbox agent, request GET /api/issues/:id/activity and observe Route not allowed. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed at |

fix(costs): preserve usage attribution and explain unavailable run costs (#15948)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The cost ledger records usage and controls agent budgets. > - Some runs lose the selected model or API billing category before their usage reaches the ledger. > - The dashboard reports missing costs but does not identify the affected runs or the available actions. > - This pull request preserves usage attribution and adds a compact view of cost gaps grouped by agent. > - Operators can inspect runs, open agent settings, and record saved costs without starting new agent work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15634, #11938, #15879. This follows the merged subscription reporting in #15634. The older proposal in #11938 addresses part of ACP model attribution. This change also rejects conflicting models across a turn, fixes credential-backed billing capture, and explains cost gaps in the existing dashboard. The Pi receipt recovery work in #15879 covers a separate adapter recovery path. This PR preserves unresolved receipts and does not recover provider usage or reprice past entries. **What happened?** ACP results use the requested model even when the runtime selects a model. Native and OpenCode API runs can report unknown billing despite a matching API credential. The dashboard shows notices without links to the affected runs. These gaps make API and subscription totals harder to interpret. **Expected behavior** Record the model selected by the runtime. Identify API billing only from a matching credential. Keep costs unresolved when reliable usage or pricing is absent. Show the affected agents and runs. Offer an accounting retry only when saved evidence is ready. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an ACP agent with its model left unset, or use a matching API credential with a native or OpenCode agent. 2. Inspect the recorded model and billing category for the run. 3. Open Costs Overview for a period with unpriced usage or terminal runs awaiting receipts. 4. Inspect the notice and try to find the affected run or the relevant agent settings. **Paperclip version or commit** Current master at `657e71584a0`. The patch is rebased on that commit. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server and local development. The cost detail tests use a disposable PostgreSQL database. ## What Changed - Preserve the runtime-selected ACP model in checkpoints and final results. Conflicting models across one turn remain unpriced. - Share credential-backed API billing checks across native and OpenCode results. Keep unknown billing when the provider and credential do not match. - Add company-scoped cost detail and accounting retry endpoints. Board viewers can read details but cannot retry. Agents and foreign companies are denied. - Limit each detail category to 25 entries. Use one consistent database snapshot and sparse indexes matching the filters and sort order. Add the unknown-billing count to the existing summary query. - Replace the notice with an expandable count line. Group entries alphabetically by agent. Show the saved blob icon, link each name to configuration, and put run and retry links beside the date. - Preserve estimate and unavailable-price labels on Providers and Billers; keep retry confirmation after the resolved notice disappears. - Fetch details only while expanded. Retain the last loaded details after a refresh error. Retry saved accounting only; do not rerun the agent. - Add capture, database, authorization, UI, and Storybook coverage. Update the implementation contract and cost reporting guide. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after rebase. - `pnpm build` and `pnpm build-storybook` passed after rebase. - `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check` passed. - 1,086 focused tests passed across 17 files. These cover ACP, native and OpenCode capture, PostgreSQL reports, route authorization, OpenAPI, Costs UI, and existing accounting regressions. - Desktop and mobile browser checks passed during UI review. They cover lazy expansion, alphabetical groups, loaded blob icons, configuration and run links, keyboard retry, and layout overflow. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted with command-scoped `init.defaultBranch=master` for Git fixtures. It was stopped after a native session recovery failure reproduced on unchanged base `657e71584a0` (`archives a damaged prior epoch before completing guarded same-task replacement with real runnerd`). An MCP upload case failed in the broad run but passed in isolation on both the base and PR branch. These local limitations do not affect the 1,086 passing focused tests. - Current-head CI is green, including all unit test lanes, serialized server suites, runner checks, typecheck, build, policy, and eight browser shards. Apex re-review is 5/5 on `56de60effdb`; all four original findings are addressed and every review thread is resolved. - PostgreSQL applies migration `0333` in the integration fixtures. EXPLAIN ANALYZE on the production detail statements uses the new sparse indexes behind 5,000 healthy records in each table. - Ten provider/biller card cases cover missing and estimated prices; the retry test covers row removal and notice unmount. A live Storybook browser check verifies the confirmation and updated count. - Run `pnpm storybook`. Open **Costs / Subscriptions / Cost Data Quality Details** to inspect the production page with representative fixtures. ## Risks - Model and billing metadata change for future runs. Estimates still require complete usage and a supported price. No past cost amount is rewritten. - A missing final receipt remains unresolved for budget checks. The display changes after fifteen minutes; that time limit never authorizes settlement. - Accounting retry is a write action. It retains the existing company checks, receipt fences, idempotency, and audit logging. - Detail reads are bounded and run only after expansion. They poll every 30 seconds while open. No provider probe or new summary query is added. - Migration `0333` adds two partial indexes; it changes no stored cost amounts or table columns. fix(restore): retry sandbox copy-back before holding the task for repair (#15920)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Legacy sandbox runs copy the agent's workspace files back to the host when the run settles. > - When this copy-back fails one time, the server keeps the sandbox and puts a board-owned repair hold on the task. > - The hold blocks new messages. Only an operator API runbook can clear it. The board shows that runbook text, so users do not know what to do. > - Many copy-back failures are transient: a dropped transfer, a provider error, or a merge lock that another restore holds. > - This pull request retries those failures automatically while the run still has its merge baseline and before any host file changes. > - The benefit is that most failures repair themselves, and the remaining holds explain the situation in plain language. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14590 (related: no-replay recovery holds) **What happened?** A legacy sandbox run finished its work, but one workspace copy-back attempt failed. The task then showed "Recovery needed" with operator-only steps ("verify its exact stop receipt … record workspaceRepairEvidence"). Messages from the user stayed saved and were not delivered. **What did you expect?** Paperclip retries a transient copy-back failure automatically. If a repair is still necessary, the task says clearly what happened and who must act. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an agent in a legacy sandbox environment. 2. Make the workspace copy-back fail one time, for example with a dropped transfer or a held merge lock. 3. Open the task. It is blocked behind a repair hold, and new messages wait. **Additional context** Separately, distinct live events can render toasts with the same title and body (for example, two runs of the same agent that both succeed). The toast list showed both, and the desktop app forwards each one as a notification. ## What Changed - `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-managed-runtime.ts`: retry the workspace copy-back up to three times in total, with a 2 s and then a 5 s backoff. A retry occurs only when the failure is `restore_failed` or `restore_lock_timeout` and no host workspace file was written. The merge now marks the first host write in `beforeApply`, which runs under the merge lock before any write. - Unsafe archives, permission failures, and failures after the merge started writing are never retried. Each retry uses a new temp directory and a new imported Git ref. - New optional `workspaceRestoreRetryDelaysMs` input, so tests can shorten the backoff. Nested repository restores receive the same value. - `ui/src/components/ExecutionBlockerNotice.tsx`: for a workspace repair hold, the notice now says what happened in plain language. The stored operator runbook text moves under "Technical details". - `ui/src/context/ToastContext.tsx`: also dedupe toasts on their visible tone, title, and body inside the existing 3.5 s window. - `doc/workspace-restore-locks.md`: document the automatic retry. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec vitest run src/sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts src/workspace-restore` (218 tests pass). New tests cover: - a retry after a dropped transfer, - a retry after a merge-lock timeout, - a stop after three attempts, - no retry for an unsafe archive, a permission failure, or a failure after the merge started writing. - The existing step-diagnostic test now uses failures that persist across retries. It still expects one diagnostic per failed step. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/context/ToastContext.test.tsx src/components/ExecutionBlockerNotice.test.tsx src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider` (120 tests pass). - `tsc --noEmit` for adapter-utils passes. `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs` is clean. - Not fully run: the full adapter-utils suite has two failures in `github-launcher*.test.ts`. They read the managed GitHub credentials of the local sandbox environment and do not touch restore code. UI `tsc -b` reports five errors in `PluginOrganizationSwitcher.tsx`, which is not changed here, because the plugin SDK is not built in a fresh install. ## Risks - A copy-back that fails before the merge can take about 7 s longer before it reports a failure. Lock timeouts can take up to about 97 s in total (three 30 s lock waits plus backoff). Settlement already waits for the copy-back. - The retry logic depends on `beforeApply` running before the first host write in `mergeDirectoryWithBaseline`. That is true today, and a comment marks it. - A Git bundle import before the merge can leave unreferenced Git objects after a retry. They are harmless, and the existing ref cleanup still runs on each attempt. - Content-based toast dedupe can hide a second toast with identical text inside 3.5 s. That is the intended behavior. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`, Anthropic) in the Claude Agent SDK, with tool use (shell, file edit, code search) and a subagent for code exploration. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip Agent <agent@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
