fix: explain project access denials and add an authorized repair path (#17509)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Low-trust agents may read only the projects in their allowed scope. > - Workspace setup correctly stops a task outside that scope. > - The task previously showed a generic failure, and agent settings did not offer an additive repair. > - This pull request explains the denial and lets authorized operators add projects while preserving other restrictions. > - The saved task then offers an explicit retry. Saving access does not start work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A project access denial appeared as an ordinary failed attempt. Operators could not add a second allowed project from agent settings. **Expected behavior** The task should explain the denied access and link to a working permission editor. The editor should preserve existing scope and restrictions, enforce operator authority, and retain drafts after a failed save. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Assign a low-trust agent to a task whose project is outside its allowed projects. 2. Let workspace setup deny project access. 3. Open the task, follow Manage project access, add the project, save, reload, and return to the task. 4. Confirm that the saved message remains and Retry task is a separate action. ## What Changed - Record a typed, non-retryable project denial before provider dispatch. Project denials do not enter automatic continuation or provider comment policy. - Project current and historical setup denials into a safe task notice. Keep unrelated failures, prior assignees, and approval/pause/budget gates separate. Recheck current project authority, including standard trust and root-issue grants. Accepted retries keep their working state. - Add board-only project-access reads and additive saves under the agent row lock. Enforce company scope, agent-management authority, pending-approval restrictions, and an audit record for new additions. - Add the production notice and searchable multi-project editor, including read-only, saving, cancellation, and failed-save states. Preserve the return-to-task query through canonical agent redirects. - Register board-only project-access routes in OpenAPI with a strict request schema. - Add production Storybook examples and API/persistence/concurrency regressions. Retain the approved design snapshot and update the behavior maps and implementation contract. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs`. - Passed: 11 permission/projection tests and 30 run-completion tests against an isolated PostgreSQL database. These cover historical failures, concurrent additions, idempotent audit, preserved restrictions, foreign projects, read-only users, agent self-grants, and no automatic wakeup. - Passed: all 27 OpenAPI route tests, including route coverage and the new board-only request/response contract. - Browser: the real app displayed a historical denial; Manage project access opened the editor; saving retained the original project and survived reload; Return to task showed the ready notice. Saving created one audit event and zero runs. Explicit Retry returned 202 and reached the separate sandbox requirement, which remained enforced. No external provider was used. - All five production Storybook interaction checks pass: blocked task, save, cancellation, failed-save recovery, and read-only settings. These use fixture callbacks; durable authorization is covered separately above. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted locally but stopped after repeated embedded PostgreSQL startup failures caused by macOS semaphore exhaustion. Full-suite CI is required before merge. The separate UI suite passed all 9,095 tests. The 41 focused server regressions also passed after rebasing onto the latest master. A further 26 recovery-classification tests pass, including a red-to-green regression for automatic continuation after a project denial. ## Risks - No schema migration. The new endpoint only adds same-company project IDs and preserves the rest of the stored policy. - The historical notice recognizes one exact setup denial message. It does not display arbitrary run errors or disclose a different source project's identity. - The retry still passes all current admission and isolation checks. The notice does not promise that other execution requirements are satisfied. - Related open work: #13309 covers inherited secret restrictions; #11234 covers the broader repository catalog. This change does not replace either policy surface. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code execution and browser tools. The precise runtime model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused server and full UI suites; full-suite infrastructure limit above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: support Daytona runner upgrades and ignore obsolete Claude options (#17361)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Existing Claude and Codex agents can upgrade to Paperclip Runner. > - A Daytona computer needs platform qualification before Runner becomes its default. > - The upgrade notice required that default, so it hid the action that could start qualification. > - Saved Claude turn limits also caused conversion to fail even though Runner can run without them. > - This pull request verifies the computer on click and ignores obsolete Claude options with a warning. > - Agents retain their model, account, environment, instructions, and permission policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #17122. **What happened?** A legacy Claude agent on a Daytona snapshot had no upgrade button until its environment had platform qualification. A saved `maxTurnsPerRun: 1000` then caused conversion to return HTTP 422. **Expected behavior** The upgrade action verifies a supported Daytona computer and converts the agent. Unsupported tuning options produce a visible warning and do not block execution. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a legacy Claude agent with `maxTurnsPerRun: 1000` on an active Daytona snapshot. 2. Open Runtime before the environment has platform qualification. 3. Try to upgrade to Paperclip Runner. **Paperclip version or commit** After #17122, reproduced against `9c442cf48e`. ## What Changed - Offer upgrade on probe-capable Daytona snapshots and immutable sandbox images. Perform the public environment probe only after a click. Save after fresh adapter discovery confirms support. - Resolve the actual computer for explicit, instance-default, and hidden managed environments. Preserve pending edits and reject stale probe results. - Ignore Claude `maxTurnsPerRun`, `chrome`, `warmHandleIdleMs`, and `acpWarmHandleIdleMs`. Return structured warnings from create, hire, and update. Show warnings in Runtime and after a save. - Keep validation for commands, credentials, filesystem, network, and permission settings. - Retain the legacy turn limit in the existing live conversion fixture. Update regression tests, upgrade stories, and capability maps. ## Verification - Red: the old route returns HTTP 422 for the saved turn limit; the old form hides the Daytona upgrade notice. - Green: 417 focused server and form tests pass. A further 188 tests pass after the review fixes. Qualification coverage includes failed probes, unsupported targets, changed settings, managed defaults, unsaved environment variables, and forced Kubernetes targets. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. Token gates, map checks, map tests, and Storybook catalog checks pass. - Real local Claude Opus 5.5 conversion and task pass, with the downloaded artifact checked against seeded source bytes, SHA-256, and Git commit. - Real browser upgrade and full Claude Opus 5.5 task on a disposable named Daytona snapshot pass at `b81cec7d8c`. The saved agent retains its model, high effort, credentials, timeout, and grace settings while dropping the turn limit with a visible warning. Exactly one successful run completed the task. The downloaded artifact matched independently seeded source bytes, SHA-256, and Git commit; the source was unchanged, no interactions remained pending, and the delivery link survived a browser reload. The snapshot used current runtime assets built from public source. The supplied Daytona account could not access the original staging snapshot, so this verifies an equivalent local fixture rather than that exact snapshot. Disposable test resources were cleaned up. - Earlier live attempts remain recorded: an image-based sandbox creation failed, and the first named-snapshot probe returned failure with unresolved provisional cleanup identity. Later named-snapshot probing and the task succeeded; the initial creation failures are not attributed to this PR or declared resolved. A separate attempt using the Oct 18 cached runtime failed the current provider-pack compatibility check; rebuilding the runtime from matching public source removed that mismatch. Owned resources were identified and cleaned up, with diagnostic databases retained. - 54 checks passed at `b81cec7d8c`, with no failed checks; Greptile and Paperclip Review both scored 5/5, with both review threads resolved. Master advanced during the live proof, so the branch was rebased with both sides of additive import/test conflicts retained. On the rebased head `2b74222b94`, 472 focused tests, UI typecheck, and UI build pass. All required CI gates pass; Greptile and Paperclip Review both score 5/5 on this head, with no unresolved review threads. The PR is mergeable. The serial local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the CI test lanes passed; that local run is not claimed as a pass. ## Risks - An explicit upgrade can allocate a temporary probe sandbox and take several minutes. Probe failures leave the agent on its existing runner. - Ignored options no longer enforce a turn cap, Chrome integration, or legacy idle-time tuning. The UI warns about each active ignored option. - Unsafe or ambiguous execution settings still fail validation. This change does not weaken environment qualification or runtime artifact checks. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): remove the provider trace run button (#17211)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agent header provides actions to assign work and start runs. > - A second run button starts a run with raw provider tracing. > - Agent configuration already has a switch for raw tracing on future runs. > - This pull request removes the extra run button and its unused code. > - The header keeps one normal run action and the saved tracing status. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The action buttons in the agent detail header. **Current behavior** Administrators see Run now and Run with provider trace next to each other. **Proposed behavior** Remove Run with provider trace from the header. Use Capture raw provider traces in the configuration Debugging section to enable tracing for future runs. **Reason and benefit** Keep the normal run action clear. Put the tracing setting with the other agent settings. **Breaking changes** The separate trace button is removed. The tracing configuration, trace API, and run inspector actions stay available. ## What Changed - Remove the trace button, its property, and its mutation. - Remove the property from the agent detail page. - Update tests for normal runs with saved tracing on and off. - Check normal actions for Codex, Dot, and Muse. - Document the tracing setting in the feature map. ## Verification - Passed: 178 focused UI tests across AgentActionButtons, AgentDetail.accounting, RunnerInspector, AgentConfigForm, and AgentConfigForm.render. - Passed: pnpm check:token-gates. - Passed: node scripts/check-maps.mjs. - Passed: git diff --check. - Passed: [PR CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39796866659), including the required verify and e2e gates. - Passed: Greptile 5/5 with no open review threads. - Two optional job badges still say running. Their test, cleanup, and final job steps passed. The parent workflow completed with success. - The broad local checks could not complete with the installed dependencies. The full typecheck and build require smol-toml. The UI checks also require @spekoai/client and the plugin SDK UI build. The full test run was stopped after many suites could not load. The PR workflow and both required gates passed for the current head. - To inspect the UI, open an agent. Confirm there is one Run now action. Enable Capture raw provider traces under configuration, Debugging. Save the change. Confirm the header shows Raw tracing on and still has one run action. ## Risks - Low risk. This removes one UI action and its unused code. - Administrators use the saved Debugging setting for tracing future runs. - No API, database, or permission changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this run. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: offer existing Claude and Codex agents a runner upgrade (#17122)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Each agent stores its harness, model, account and runtime configuration. > - New Claude and Codex agents now use Paperclip Runner on qualified targets. > - Existing agents keep their legacy runner and need a clear upgrade action. > - The existing configuration API already translates settings and records revisions. > - This pull request adds an explicit upgrade action that uses that API. > - Operators can retain supported settings and correct rejected settings in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Existing Claude and Codex agent configuration. Related defaults: #15683 and #15993. **Current behavior** Existing agents retain their legacy runner. The operator must find the runner selector in Advanced to change it. **Proposed behavior** Show Upgrade runner when Paperclip Runner is the qualified default for the saved environment. One click saves pending edits and requests the existing server conversion. Show any rejected settings without changing saved configuration. **Reason and benefit** Operators can adopt the current runner while retaining their harness, model, account bindings, instructions and history. Unsupported settings remain visible and editable. **Breaking changes** None. Visiting configuration and saving unrelated changes do not upgrade an agent. The server API, authorization and conversion rules are unchanged. ## What Changed - Add an upgrade notice, pending state, saved result and retry feedback to the production configuration form. - Include pending profile, runtime and environment-variable edits in the upgrade request. - Bind asynchronous upgrade feedback and save receipts to their original agent. Navigating away cannot show success on another agent or redirect back. - Keep the notice absent for native agents, other harnesses, unavailable targets and failed discovery. - Add configuration/API regressions and database session-reset checks for Claude and Codex. - Add 13 production-page Storybook states with browser checks in both themes and on mobile. - Update the product contract and feature/access maps. ## Verification - Configuration form and original-agent save receipts: 135 tests passed. Existing agent route/rename helpers also pass. - Runner selection, configuration API and database migration regressions: 220 tests passed. - Storybook browser checks: 26 passed. Interactive cases wait for Storybook's visible Pass report. Static cases check the rendered production form. These use simulated HTTP boundaries. - Full typecheck, build, map checks and token gates passed on the current head. Storybook build and public preview verification passed. - Published fixture preview: https://storybook.paperclip.page/storybook/branches/codex~2Fagent-runner-upgrade/?path=/story/agents-runner-upgrade--legacy-codex - All 58 current-head PR checks passed, including the full test shards, browser suites, build and aggregate gates. The duplicate local pnpm test:run was stopped after 34 minutes once the same-head full CI suite passed; it had not finished its general-server phase. No local full-suite pass is claimed. - Real disposable local test drive: Codex used gpt-5.4 and Claude used claude-sonnet-4-6. Both completed one task on Legacy, upgraded through the browser button, and completed another task on Paperclip Runner with the same model and API credentials. Independent file checks confirmed saved instructions and environment bindings before and after conversion. - Reopened both configurations and compared identity, model, credential references, instruction hashes, working directories, run policies and configuration revisions. - A Claude Chrome setting produced a field-specific rejection. The saved agent stayed Legacy. Clearing Chrome in the form and clicking Upgrade runner saved the pending correction and completed conversion. ## Risks - The existing translator rejects settings that the new runner cannot honor. The notice shows that error and leaves the form available for correction. - Converted agents start fresh sessions. Prior runs remain available. - Real task execution was checked on local macOS with API credentials. SSH, sandbox targets and subscription credentials were not exercised in this change. - Storybook responses simulate persistence. The real test drive and database tests provide separate persistence evidence. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact serving variant and context-window size were not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, code editing, shell tools and browser interaction. No subagents.

Draft: Build agent-ready design proposal system (#16875)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - People need consistent UI patterns to review and control that work. > - The current board uses related layouts and controls with different spacing, type, and behavior. > - That drift makes it hard for a designer or an agent to build a new page from a reliable reference. > - Storybook can show the shared patterns and the states they need to support. > - This pull request adds design proposals, a local sandbox, and reusable UI controls so people can compare the patterns in context. > - The benefit is a clearer design system that agents can use to build consistent UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React board UI and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** Board pages repeat visual and interaction decisions. Storybook did not provide a complete reference for task views, conversation states, typography, toolbars, tabs, and light/dark colors. People could not compare a proposed pattern with the running board in one place. **Proposed solution** Add a staged Design Proposals catalog with foundations, components, layouts, and page specimens. Add an opt-in sandbox. Reuse production components where possible. Include synthetic conversation states and shared controls so reviewers can compare and refine them. **Alternatives considered** Separate static mockups would not show keyboard behavior, responsive layout, or real component states. Rebuilding each page only in Storybook would allow the reference to drift from the board. **Roadmap alignment** This improves existing board UI and Skills Manager surfaces. It does not add a new control-plane capability. ## What Changed - Added dark and light color references, typography and conversation specimens, and component stories for buttons, tabs, toolbars, sidebar, popovers, activity, and task lists. - Added a local design sandbox with synthetic task conversation playback and representative states. - Shared collection toolbars and navigation patterns across task, agent, project, routine, skill, connector, and artifact pages. - Added the streamlined Skills tabs and a My Skills collection that uses the shared skill cards. - Restored saved-thread access during synthetic playback, kept connector searchbox semantics, and updated reproduction checks after moving trial stories. - Documented the proposed patterns and added focused UI, catalog, and browser checks. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs --check` passed. - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed after merging master. After the review fixes, focused UI typecheck, `pnpm build-storybook`, 23 Skills Sources tests, and all 15 Storybook typography browser tests passed. - Focused task-thread and system-notice suites passed: 251 tests. Connector Browse passed 84 tests; the connector, attachment, recovery, and Storybook flyout browser journeys passed locally. - A local full Vitest run hit one intermittent chat-channels integration failure; that test passed in isolation. GitHub CI [39347996059](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39347996059) passed on the exact latest commit: 55 successful checks and two skipped draft-only Storybook jobs. - Greptile reviewed the exact latest commit at 5/5 with no new comments or open review threads. GitHub reports the branch as cleanly mergeable. ## Risks - This PR changes 206 files and exceeds the repository's 100-file review target. Review by commit and consider a scoped split before merge. - Design Proposals are staged references. Fixture interactions do not prove API behavior, permissions, or provider execution. - UI changes to shared controls may affect pages outside the proposal sandbox. Focused browser checks and the full CI matrix passed. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The model used reasoning, code execution, browser inspection, and local tests. Earlier branch commits were also AI-assisted in this Codex conversation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details available in this session) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above where applicable - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Scott Tong <scott@scotts-mbp-m5-max.local> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): configure Grok Bot through its external connection (#16338)
## Thinking Path Paperclip coordinates an external Grok Bot through its authenticated agent connection and routine. The shared configuration form only excluded OpenAI Dot from local runtime controls, so Grok Bot inherited a model picker, local paths, an AI account picker, and a generic runtime test. These controls cannot configure the external Bot and the generic test is not evidence of its webhook-to-MCP connection. Extend the existing external-provider presentation gates and retain the dedicated connection verification workflow. Related implementation: #16219 and #16305. Searched open Grok PRs and issues; the remaining matches concern the separate coding runtime or unrelated coverage. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An existing Grok Bot agent's Runtime page shows local model and runtime configuration alongside its actual external connection controls. **Expected behavior** Identify the harness as Grok Bot, show its connection and routine controls, and use Verify connection for authenticated two-way readiness. Omit inapplicable local-runtime controls and model catalog queries. **Steps to reproduce** Create a Grok Bot through Invite external agent, then open its Runtime settings. Before this correction, the shared form renders a model selector and Test your agent despite the Bot owning its runtime. **Paperclip version/commit** Master after #16219; reproduced against the shared form at |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(runs): bound history and reduce repeated context reads (#16286)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps operators manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Run history supplies recent execution records to the board and API clients. > - The list repeats eight reads of a large stored JSON context. > - A caller can also omit the limit and read the complete history. > - This pull request expands context fields once and bounds every list read. > - The benefit is lower database cost and bounded redaction work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #958. Related community reports: #13962 and #10631. This is an independent implementation. It does not use their commits or code. It covers the history bounds reported in both. Process memory monitoring from #10631 is outside this change. **What happened?** The run-history query repeatedly extracts fields from large context JSON. Requests without a limit also load every historical run before authorization and redaction. Accumulated staging query statistics showed 271 ms for summary history and another 58 ms for its redaction lookup. **What did you expect to happen?** Normal reads must use a bounded recent history. Context projection must preserve the existing values and privacy behavior with less repeated database work. **Steps to reproduce** Run the disposable benchmark below against the baseline revision. It creates 1,400 synthetic runs with 192 KiB contexts. It compares the exact service SQL and every returned column for both summary and full history. ## What Changed - Expand context fields with one lateral record projection. Preserve non-object legacy contexts and the first-class issue binding. - Enforce a 200-row default and a 1,000-row maximum in the route and service. - Apply the default in the shared UI client, including both agent detail implementations. - Preserve response arrays, authorization, result projection and secret redaction. - Fetch older linked runs by ID in both agent pages. Check company and agent scope, navigation races and visible retry errors. - Update OpenAPI, data-path documentation and capability maps. - Add real PostgreSQL and HTTP regressions plus a reproducible benchmark. ## Verification - Local benchmark: summary history 37.72 ms to 19.34 ms; full history 37.84 ms to 19.01 ms. All 200 complete positional rows match in each comparison. These are synthetic local SQL timings, excluding HTTP and redaction. - History, route, privacy and redaction suites: 160 server tests passed across six files. Twenty-two UI API, selection, run-panel and log-visibility tests passed. Both agent-page variants render an older linked run with an empty history page on desktop and mobile. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - Map validation and `git diff --check` passed. - All current-head CI and security checks passed, including the full general and serialized suites, browser shards, Runner verification and build. Greptile reviewed the exact commit at 5/5 with no remaining findings. - The full local sweep began before the final compatibility fixes. It was stopped after the final commits passed complete CI. The focused local suites listed above passed on the final code. Before interruption, the broader local sweep passed 31,743 tests across the general server, UI and several package groups, with no reported failures. The full local command is not claimed as a completed pass. ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/heartbeat/run-state.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-list.test.ts src/__tests__/agent-live-run-routes.test.ts src/__tests__/run-secret-redaction.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-privacy-routes.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/api/heartbeats.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-run-history.ts --baseline-ref=1e731520bb ``` ## Risks - Clients that relied on an unbounded array now receive 200 rows by default. Explicit limits allow up to 1,000. This change does not add pagination. - Legacy context conversion must stay identical. Real database regressions cover null, array, scalar, nested values and native issue precedence. - No schema migration or persistent cache is introduced. Redaction and access checks remain active. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, shell tools and local code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific backend model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(agents): show who created an agent in shared companies (#16055)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - A company in Paperclip can have more than one human member, and each member can create agents > - The app does not record which person created an agent > - When two or more people share a company, members cannot see who added an agent or who to ask about it > - This pull request records the creator of each agent and shows the creator on the agent Overview tab > - The benefit is clear ownership of agents in shared companies, with no change for single-user companies ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. This description follows `feature_request.yml`. **Subsystem affected** Agents: the agent data model, the agent create path on the server, and the agent Overview tab in the board UI. **Problem or motivation** Paperclip does not record which human user created an agent. When more than one human user works in a company, the agent page does not tell members who created the agent. **Proposed solution** Record the user ID of the creator when a human creates an agent. Show "Created by <name>" on the Identity card of the agent Overview tab. Show this row only when the company has two or more human members. Do not count the synthetic local Board principal as a human member. Do not show the local Board as a creator. **Alternatives considered** Count human users across the full instance. We did not do this. An instance-wide count tells a member of one company that other companies have users. The creator is always a member of the agent's company, so the company count is sufficient. **Roadmap alignment** `ROADMAP.md` has no item for agent ownership. This change is small and additive. ## What Changed - Add the nullable column `agents.created_by_user_id` (`packages/db/src/schema/agents.ts`, migration `0343_new_mentor.sql`). - Set the column in the single agent insert path (`server/src/modules/agent-lifecycle/adapters/records.ts`). The value comes from the authenticated user actor. The server ignores a creator value in the request body. Agents that agents or the system create keep `null`. - Backfill existing agents in the migration. The backfill uses the earliest `agent.created` or `agent.hire_created` activity row that a user actor wrote in the same company. - Add `createdByUserId` to the shared `Agent` type (`packages/shared/src/types/agent.ts`). - Add `ui/src/lib/agent-creator.ts`. It decides if the UI shows the creator row and it resolves the creator name. If the creator left the company, the row shows "Former member". - Add the "Created by" row to the Identity card in `ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.tsx`. If the company user directory request fails, the row shows "Could not load creator". The row does not disappear silently. - Add the Storybook story `Pages/Agent Detail → Shared Company Shows Creator`. - Document the column in `doc/SPEC-implementation.md` §7.2. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` passes. This includes the migration numbering and migration safety checks. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` passes. - `ui`: `tsc --noEmit` passes. - `server`: `vitest run src/modules/agent-lifecycle/__tests__/lifecycle.test.ts` passes (49/49). Two new tests: - The server records the creator from the actor and ignores a creator value in the request body. - The backfill takes the earliest user activity row. It skips agent actors and rows from other companies. - `server`: `vitest run src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts` passes (40/40). A new test checks that a built-in agent enabled by a human records that human, and that automatic provisioning stays unattributed. The gated (pending-approval) provisioning test also asserts the creator. `src/__tests__/built-in-agent-routes.test.ts` also passes. - `ui`: `vitest run src/lib/agent-creator.test.ts src/pages/AgentOverview.test.tsx` passes (10/10). The tests cover these cases: the row shows with two or more humans, the row stays hidden with one human plus the Board, the UI never shows the Board as the creator, the row shows an error when the directory request fails, and the row stays hidden (no error) for agents with no creator or the Board as creator. The last case fails without the fix. - The current Storybook catalog uses source annotations and generated indexes. `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs --check` passes (264 story files, 2,514 stories). The merge keeps the authored catalog deletion from master. - `pnpm check:token-gates` is clean. - Screenshots from the Storybook story (fake data: two human members, Alice Admin and Bob Builder, plus the local Board). The red "Could not load public key" text is a Storybook artifact: the story has no fixture for the public key request. The existing `Dashboard` story shows the same text. **Two or more human members: the Identity card shows "Created by".** **One human member plus the local Board: the row stays hidden.** Full Overview tab: [overview-created-by.png](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/9b62bd2ea6cf984ce6745f08cc45f44ddf00fb51/pr-16055/overview-created-by.png). The images are on the separate branch `pr-assets/agent-created-by`. They are not in this PR and do not go to `master`. - Manual check: open Storybook at `Pages/Agent Detail → Shared Company Shows Creator`. The Identity card shows "Created by Alice Admin". The `Dashboard` story has one human, so it does not show the row. - Final focused verification on `5a02350cf16050a3cf3cb3f8dc061fe61758c60d`: all 99 tests pass across the two UI suites, built-in-agent suite, and lifecycle suite. The backfill test applies the complete migration twice. The migration uses `ADD COLUMN IF NOT EXISTS` and preserves the company-scoped backfill. Migration numbering and token checks pass. - Full repository typecheck, build, and Storybook build pass. The generated creator story ID is present. A Chromium check renders the production agent page fixture and verifies the creator row and Alice Admin name. Map checks and their 21 tests pass. A fresh Apex review is 5/5 on the current head with no unresolved findings. All 54 successful CI checks pass on this head, with two intentional skips, including all general and serialized test shards, E2E, typecheck, and build. The workspaces-b job passed after rerunning a runner shutdown; no source change was needed. The separate, unsharded local `pnpm test:run` invocation has not completed; complete suite verification comes from CI. ## Risks - Migration: the migration adds one nullable column and runs one `UPDATE` on `agents` with a correlated subquery on `activity_log`. On an instance with a very large activity log, the backfill can take some time. The migration does not lock other tables and does not delete data. - Backfill accuracy: agents with no user-authored create activity row keep `null`. The UI then does not show a creator. This is the same as the current behavior. - Privacy: the row shows only names from the company user directory, and only to users who can already see that directory. - Low risk for single-user companies: the UI does not change for them. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic, Claude Opus 5.5 (model ID `claude-opus-5-5`), run as a coding agent through Claude Code with tool use (shell, file edit, and test execution), standard context window. OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6`) through Codex assisted conflict resolution, regression tests, and repository verification. This session does not expose an exact context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Amy (Opus) <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> |

Use the agent lifecycle contract for plugin setup and status (#15391)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Some plugins must prepare resources before an agent can work. > - Those resources must stop or be removed when the agent pauses or terminates. > - The agent lifecycle module now owns these steps and their durable completion. > - Plugins use its required callback contract instead of a separate readiness query. > - This PR documents that contract and shows its progress and retry action on the agent page. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #15631 **Subsystem affected** Required plugin lifecycle work and the agent detail page. **Problem or motivation** The lifecycle module exposes `onAgentLifecycle` and `agents.lifecycle.manage`, but the plugin authoring guide does not explain their use. The agent page displays legacy status. Setup therefore looks paused and offers Resume. Termination leaves the page before resource cleanup completes. **Proposed solution** Use the callback, admission guards, persisted state, and retry route supplied by the lifecycle module. Show pending phases and fixed host errors. Keep the detail page open during incomplete termination. Use lifecycle state for pause and resume controls. **Alternatives considered** A separate plugin readiness query would duplicate the module's state and admission rules. The final diff contains no readiness API, database commit hooks, or second admission check. ## What Changed - Document the manifest declaration, callback results, phase ordering, capability scope, retry behavior, and provider revision requirements. - Correct SDK comments for lifecycle, routing, and external object callbacks. - Show preparation, verification, pause, resume, termination, and cleanup progress from the existing agent fields. - Refresh pending steps every two seconds and other states every thirty seconds. Keep these reads separate from the agent record used by editable forms. Use the existing authorized retry route for failed steps. - Offer Pause during setup. Disable pause and resume while stop or cleanup is incomplete. Keep cleanup failures reachable on the detail page. Disable new work after termination starts. - Test required resource work across setup, pause, resume, and confirmed deletion. Test every worker callback phase, missing handlers, retry authorization, and UI behavior. ## Verification - Focused UI tests: 139 passed across lifecycle status, action buttons, API tests, and the configuration form. A regression preserves unsaved edits during an in-flight lifecycle refresh and a failed refresh. - Focused host and shared tests: 113 passed across lifecycle integration, retry authorization, plugin RPC, and manifest validation. The database suite used isolated local PostgreSQL 18 through a temporary loader outside the repository. - Module boundary tests: 11 passed. Module import/write checks and UI token gates passed. - Plugin SDK build, server direct TypeScript check, and UI TypeScript check passed. - `git diff --check` and an added-line secrets/private-reference scan passed. Fixtures use synthetic identities. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed using the existing local Rust toolchain. - Visually checked all six progress phases with the application components and styles. Captured preparation and cleanup failure screenshots from the production UI build with synthetic API data; artifacts are kept outside git. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and stopped after a native-runner failure reproduced in isolation: `native-session-resume.test.ts` / `archives a damaged prior epoch before completing guarded same-task replacement with real runnerd` returns a failed Codex fixture result instead of success. The native-runtime and runner trees are unchanged from the base. No full local test pass is claimed. - All latest-head CI checks passed, including test shards, verification, E2E, and the canary packaging check. Greptile reviewed commit `96473e03a` at 5/5 with no unresolved comments. ## Risks - Selected required plugins remain a dependency for lifecycle completion. The lifecycle module retains their requirements when a plugin is disabled or removed. - Plugins must make repeated provider operations safe and fence older revisions. feat(dot): complete onboarding and expand governed Runner capabilities (#15414)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages AI agents, their work, and their permissions.
> - Paperclip Runner supplies the same admitted tool authority to each
provider.
> - The Dot provider in #15402 needs reliable onboarding and useful
agent capabilities.
> - An idle Dot could not start work, assign a human, read skills, or
produce a workspace artifact.
> - Pairing also relied on a second configuration save before ordinary
admission could work.
> - This pull request adds governed idle admission and shared Runner
tools, and completes pairing atomically.
> - Operators can test Dot with fresh data while keeping normal company,
approval, budget, and run ownership checks.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Paperclip Runner, dedicated Dot MCP access, OAuth onboarding,
experimental settings, and empty worktree startup. This PR builds on
merged provider PR #15402. It reuses the merged MCP gateway from #14846
and assistant connection work from #14933 and #15380.
**Problem or motivation**
An idle Dot could see assignments but could not act on a conversation
request until someone created a task first. Its Runner catalog could not
assign tasks to humans or read pinned skills and workspace files.
First-time OAuth discovery and pairing also needed browser fixes, and a
completed pairing did not persist its binding reference on the agent.
**Proposed solution**
Keep Dot within the existing Runner. Admit a visible agent-authored
intake task for idle requests. Add people, human assignment, cross-task,
skill, and optional sandbox workspace tools through shared authority.
Relay assigned app calls through the configured MCP gateway. Add lease
renewal and follow-up references. Save pairing and its configuration
revision atomically. Show prerequisites and provide a complete copy
prompt.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental provider in #15402. It uses the existing
governed gateway, task model, skills, artifact path, and native Runner.
It adds no separate execution subsystem.
## What Changed
- Add a standalone OpenAI Dot agent choice with an independent
experimental opt-in. It works with the general Runner option off.
Require Assistant connections (MCP), authenticated sign-in, and public
HTTPS for pairing.
- Use Dot’s own option for company package import. Allow an unpaired Dot
configuration to save after external billing acknowledgement; task
admission still requires pairing. Prepare the shared dev binary for
Dot-only opt-in.
- Label saved Dot agents as OpenAI Dot. Use prerequisite-check copy in
setup and runtime configuration.
- Route Dot creation directly to pairing after explicit external billing
acknowledgement. Hide local CLI, model, and harness setup for Dot.
Preserve the shared Runner implementation and canonical API type. Other
Runner providers still require their general opt-in.
- Add an empty worktree option with fresh signing keys and no production
data copy.
- Fix public-client OAuth negotiation, discovery compatibility, and
optional separate browser authorization origin.
- Add one-use pairing consent preview, clear copied setup instructions,
and atomic binding persistence and cleanup.
- Add idle request admission with stable request IDs and normal
scheduling, permissions, budgets, and task ownership.
- Add identity and people discovery, human task assignment and
reassignment, and authorized cross-task comments and documents.
- Read assigned skill files from pinned manifests. Relay assigned app
calls through the merged gateway without exposing credentials.
- Add an off-by-default workspace bridge. Constrain paths and writes.
Run commands in a deny-by-default OS sandbox with no network or injected
credentials. Reserve mutations before effects and never blindly repeat
uncertain work.
- Add rolling lease renewal, task pagination, bounded operation limits,
and deduplicated follow-up references without comment bodies in
webhooks.
- Add an off-by-default attachment reading setting. Restrict reads to
files on the current assigned task. Verify size and hash, cache bounded
verified copies per run, paginate text or binary bytes, and recheck live
authority before returning.
- Keep file grants operator-owned. Reject agent self-grants across
configuration routes. Preserve attachment consent in create/import
forms. Close generic API file bypasses while retaining current-run
response snapshots and permitted uploads.
- Keep provider limits explicit. Do not inherit a Dot binding,
attachment permission, or workspace permission when hiring another
agent.
- Include the required Markdown format in cross-task document writes and
validate the API title limit. Verify real creation and revision
persistence.
- Restrict command execution to Linux bubblewrap with descendant
containment. macOS retains workspace file tools and artifact publishing,
while refusing command calls. Explain the platform limit in setup.
- Exclude Paperclip instance state from workspace files, uploads,
artifact publication, and sandbox commands. Protect nested directories
and case variants. Fail closed when the directory protection scan
exceeds 4,096 directories.
- Add static UI compression for slow public tunnels. Document setup, the
complete tool inventory, and qualification limits.
## Verification
- Merge preparation on `00ca2c75b` integrates merged base #15402 and
master `fc6304dfe`. The ancestry commit preserves the reviewed follow-up
source tree. The subsequent security fix excludes instance state from
file tools, uploads, artifact publication, and sandbox commands. It
preserves private task authorization and task monitors. It regenerates
the combined tool catalog, seeded catalog digest, and protocol manifest.
Workspace typecheck, full build, and UI token gates pass. All sixteen
real Dot broker cases and 93 company import cases pass after the review
fixes and creator-attribution test correction. The exported
human-assignment catalog and Unicode page boundaries are also fixed. All
ten catalog tests and nine workspace/skill bridge tests pass. All 35
workspace bridge and authority tests passed after the instance-state
fix, including real macOS commands in that intermediate version. The
subsequent document and descendant-containment fixes pass 44 focused
tests across bridge, authority, and setup UI, with six Linux command
cases skipped on macOS. Real cross-task documents pass the route
validator and persist two revisions. macOS refuses command execution and
does not advertise the tool. Full workspace typecheck and build, changed
server/UI typechecks, and token gates pass again on the final commit.

feat(connections): add experimental task-pinned AI routing (#14967)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - AI Connections separate account access from models and harnesses. > - A pool must act as one connection while retaining each task’s account. > - Core must enforce member access and preserve session and recovery rules. > - A plugin supplies rotation policy without receiving credentials. > - This change adds durable routing and native connector setup and management. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** AI Connections, Connectors, plugins, run dispatch, and session compatibility. **Problem or motivation** Operators need to rotate new tasks across saved accounts while each task keeps its account and session. Pool setup must fit the existing connector catalog and account workflow. **Proposed solution** Add an experimental router binding, a capability-gated plugin hook, and transactional task pins. Plugins declare native pooled connectors through `aiConnectionRouter`. Core hosts the existing-account picker, ordering step, and account settings. Related usage contract: #14936. Companion private plugin: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/643. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Apps and AI Connections. Core supplies generic enforcement and native connector UI; the private plugin owns rotation and quota policy. The prior duplicate search found no matching router implementation. ## What Changed - Add a router binding without changing existing concrete bindings. Keep the instance flag and new pools disabled by default. Require manual operator configuration. Show no routing toggle in Experimental settings on either open-source or Cloud installs, even after routing is enabled. - Persist company-scoped pools, one shared cursor per pool, and pins keyed by company, pool, agent, and task. Commit pins and cursor advances together with revision checks and bounded retries. Persist run-ID affinity before allocation. - Pass only authorized metadata and normalized usage to plugins. Core retains credential handling, member access checks, runtime qualification, and recovery evidence. Probe outside locks with a shared 15-second budget and freshness cache. - Resolve routing before credential preparation and backend selection. Preserve pins through turns, session resets, removed members, and quota waits. Retain admitted recovery after disable or uninstall. - Separate credential session epochs from token generations. Verified refresh preserves the epoch; reconnect and manual replacement change it. Include the credential slot ID in session and usage-cache identity, so reconnecting an indexed legacy account invalidates its old session even when both epochs are zero. - Validate pool member installations before accepting saved-agent bindings and recheck compatibility when the harness changes. Install only authorized members in the new-agent transaction and record their IDs in local activity. Pool membership cannot install a restricted shared connection. - Preserve pool bindings when agents hire teammates through either creation API or native caller runtime inheritance. Block stale manager credential references; retain explicit child authentication precedence and reject incompatible inherited pools. - Add native connector registration through plugin metadata. Reuse the Connectors catalog, setup header, account header, sidebar, dialogs, and usage display. Setup selects and orders saved connections. Advanced settings hold usage rules and member runtime defaults. New-account setup opens in another tab. - Use revision-checked pool archival from the Connectors catalog and account page. Keep task pins, cursors, recovery evidence, and underlying connections. Reject ordinary connection updates or removals that bypass pool revisions. - Add pool selectors, composer models, override notes, quota status, run details, activity records, and local run-log records. Keep session-adoption copy minimal. - Show **Used by** below the pool connections. List current company agents with shared avatars and profile links. Include paused agents; exclude terminated agents and agents using another pool. - Add Core stories for the generic connector workflow and runtime surfaces. Cloud stories reuse these production routes and tokens through a preview-only alias. ## Verification - Final head `73cb953bca30ed83e4505dd820edd9b5edffd28b`: full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass locally. - All 422 focused connector/settings/shared-contract/migration tests and all 156 database-backed AI connection, hiring, reconnect, and durable-routing cases pass (69 hiring cases rerun after the final auth-precedence fix). The merged shared contract retains connection instructions and pool metadata. The pool migration is generated at sequence 0299 after the latest upstream migrations; this PR makes no lockfile changes. - All four full-app Playwright tests pass on the final head after a cold restart and migration, against the installed private plugin and isolated database, with no route or pool-API mocks. They cover hidden routing controls after manual opt-in, native pool creation, ordering, membership edits, rename, paused defaults, enabling/save/refresh persistence, stale edits, cancellation/removal, preserved underlying accounts, unavailable routers, and Used by avatars and profile links. Exact command: `PAPERCLIP_CONNECTION_POOL_E2E=1 AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_COMPANY_ID=a37b9625-5ecf-4e29-8081-04df3d6e7d6f AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_URL=http://127.0.0.1:3108 pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/ai-connections-app/playwright.config.ts connection-pools.spec.ts`. - [Native setup, ordering, and management screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-6006976278) address the review follow-up. [Earlier selector, quota, and run-detail screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-5971537316) show the runtime surfaces. Core previews: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui storybook`, then **Connectors / Pool host** or **AI Connections / Connection pools**. Cloud owns its host-backed plugin stories; both repositories’ Operator Setup Required story assertions pass. - Live acceptance used OpenAI/Codex and Anthropic/Claude ACPX, resumed both exact sessions after restart, preserved pinned accounts through explicit reset and controlled quota deferral/recovery, and committed only two allocations across fourteen runs. A later UI-created task test again rotated OpenAI then Anthropic and resumed OpenAI through follow-up/restart/quota recovery. That later Anthropic execution was blocked by its saved OAuth token expiring (provider 401). No live usage probes ran. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted earlier and did not complete because of macOS embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap/shared-memory failures and the 40,000-file Git fixture timeout. The focused database suites above now pass; full-suite verification is provided by the split CI lanes. The preceding CI run had one runtime readiness timeout; it passes locally both alone and inside the larger runtime suite. That larger local suite also encountered an embedded PostgreSQL setup failure and two macOS temporary-path alias assertions; those two assertions pass with canonical TMPDIR=/private/tmp. All final-head CI checks are terminal green, including full general/serialized server suites, Runner checks, browser E2E shards, canary verification, build, and typecheck. Greptile is 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - The migration adds routing tables and a credential epoch column. Install the private plugin only with the compatible Core contract. - Routing and each pool require opt-in. Production distribution and fleet defaults remain unchanged. - Unknown usage stays eligible. Known pinned exhaustion waits; revoked access requires operator repair. - Legacy adapters require compatible members. Runner model and effort overrides remain limited by qualified backend support. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes:` / `Closes:` / `Refs:` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full-suite limitations are reported above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): make AgentMail a default connection with inline setup (#14772)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents access to external services. > - AgentMail needs both a saved key and an inbox assigned to the agent. > - Chat requests offered a setup link instead of an inline card and could treat a saved key as complete. > - Inbox setup also hid address conflicts behind a generic server error and a separate review step. > - This pull request makes AgentMail a default connection, adds the inline card, reduces setup to two steps, and shows conflicts beside the address. > - Shared native dropdown styles also give every caret a consistent inset. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** AgentMail requests in chat did not show a usable inline connection card. Manual setup required extra screens, ignored saved account keys, and could trap new-address setup in a locked inbox dropdown. Agent selectors omitted the avatar from the selected value. A taken address could produce an HTTP 403 from AgentMail and appear as an internal server error. Native dropdown arrows also touched the right edge of their fields. **Expected behavior** Make AgentMail available as a default connection. Ask for the API key inline, with a direct link to its provider page. Default human access to the company and agent access to the requesting agent. Resume the agent only after an assigned inbox is active. Manual setup should ask for an agent and email address, then finish. Address checks should run as the user types. Taken addresses should show clickable alternatives. A domain dropdown beside the name should prefer a verified custom domain. Setup should suggest authorized saved AgentMail keys and show agent avatars in the picker and selected value. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to connect AgentMail when it has no assigned inbox. 2. Check that an inline API-key card appears and links to the provider's API-key page. 3. Open AgentMail setup, choose an agent, and request an address that is already taken. 4. Correct the inline error, refresh, and finish setup with the same request ID. 5. Inspect native dropdown carets in light, dark, disabled, and right-to-left states. Uses the bounded provider-error parser merged in #14768. Related work: #13256 introduced AgentMail; #14725 expanded connection search. ## What Changed - Stop recurring email queries for tasks that have no email thread. Share the query between the thread provider and activity view. Keep email-task updates and invalidation-based discovery. - Make AgentMail available without the experimental chat setting. Keep the catalog, setup and management routes, agent Channels tab, task email feed, receiving worker, and agent tools available by default. Other experimental chat providers stay gated. - Make the email address and copy icon a single clickable action with the shared Copied! confirmation. Add View inbox linking directly to the matching AgentMail console inbox, with the address encoded as one URL path segment. - Reorganize inbox Settings around the copyable email address, usage instructions, and receiving status. Move reconnect credentials into a disclosure and separate the Disconnect action. Add production Settings stories for active, paused, unassigned-address, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect states. Show repair controls when the inbox has an error. Keep usage instructions tied to an active inbox with an address. - Add AgentMail channel intents and an inline key field with the direct API-key URL. - Keep setup and retry state tied to the interaction. Require an active inbox for completion. Preserve company and agent access checks. - Reduce manual setup to agent selection and email selection. Put the domain dropdown beside the address and default to a verified custom domain. Preserve explicit choices across reloads. Keep receiving settings under Advanced options. - Check the initial address and edits after a 350 ms pause. Abort superseded requests and ignore stale responses. Show clickable suggestions and retain known creation conflicts across reloads. - Add a company-scoped, manager-only address check using the saved credential. Search the visible inbox list instead of fetching an uncreated inbox: live AgentMail retains negative lookups that can break subsequent access-key creation. Unlisted addresses remain unknown; creation is authoritative. - Suggest labeled saved AgentMail keys in both manual setup and the inline card. Filter by company, provider, active credential, and current-user grants on the server. Prefer an account key and preserve the selected key or an explicit new-key choice across refresh. Use verified scope metadata and bounded concurrent checks for legacy keys. Never return secret values. - Catch an inbox-only key before the email step. Allow its existing inbox only after an explicit choice. Recover old locked drafts at the key picker. Save the replacement key before retiring an empty draft, then use a new setup URL so refresh preserves the switched account; stop if cleanup fails. Preserve already allocated addresses and their original accounts. - Use the shared AgentSelect in email setup. Show the canonical agent avatar in each option and the selected value, including other consumers of the shared component. Add regression coverage for legacy and current Lucide agent-mention icon formats. - Start each catalog Add connection with a fresh setup identity. Honor Finish setup's exact draft/account/address instead of resuming an unrelated browser draft. Return Cancel and Done to Connectors and Email settings to the inbox. Group the task/thread explanation in a How it Works card. - Route AgentMail catalog removal through the email inbox control API, including unfinished drafts. Refresh both the catalog and inbox views. - Render each inbox management tab separately. Access uses the saved account grants and agent controls; Conversations and Activity use the shared persisted email feed. Activity lifecycle actions use the email API. Reconnect returns to inbox Settings. Conversation failures show a retry instead of a false empty state. Email delivery recovery stays in the task. - Map documented provider address conflicts to a field error. Preserve actionable messages for other failures. - Preserve non-secret draft fields across refresh, scoped to the requested agent. Never save API keys in browser storage. Resume partial inbox creation with the original agent, address, and request ID. - Show an already-created address with explicit retry and new-address recovery instead of locked inputs. Preserve the original inbox and resumable draft when choosing another address. Distinguish runtime-key 404 errors and log safe provider status/operation/code. - Apply final agent access once within email setup authorization for a new account whose original installs are unchanged. Preserve later permission edits and reused account installs. Support in-place retry of progress loading. - Let a failed inline setup change keys after retiring an empty draft. Persist its replacement setup identity without storing secrets. Recover a server-saved account when refresh interrupts the save response, while preserving intentional account changes. - Render the production setup in Storybook and add error, recovery, and mobile states. - Inset native select carets in shared CSS. Preserve custom icons, listboxes, keyboard behavior, and forced-color controls. - Add browser regression coverage and an AgentMail Product E2E case with persisted-state and rendered-card evidence. ## Verification - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, and `git diff --check` passed after the default-availability change. - All 485 focused tests passed. These cover setup, management, catalog and route gates, connection intents, email authorization, Cursor execution, and the OpenAPI contract. All 39 email integration tests run with the experimental chat setting off. - The shared polling change passed four behavioral tests, UI typecheck and build, and token gates. - `tests/e2e/agentmail.spec.ts` passed with the actual server setting off. This full-stack browser test uses simulated provider responses. It covers catalog entry, saved keys, editable address and domain controls, creation, conflicts, retry, all management tabs, clipboard feedback, the provider link, and task email rendering. - In the live local browser, Add connection reached the editable email step with the saved account key. The verified custom domain was selected by default. Both domain choices worked. The existing inbox Settings page remained available. Both active inboxes completed new mail checks with the setting off. No new provider inbox or email message was created for this pass. - Earlier live provider acceptance covered creation on a verified custom domain, Finish connecting on the reported draft, successful mail checks after refresh, and catalog removal of disposable draft and active connections. Clicking the email address copied the exact address and showed Copied!. View inbox opened the same inbox in AgentMail’s console. No email messages were sent. - Production setup and Settings Storybook builds and interactions passed. Settings states include active, paused, unassigned, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect. Receiving and revoked-access stories had zero accessibility violations. - Full local `pnpm test:run` on an earlier revision completed with 14,709 passing, 87 skipped, and four transient failures. All four failed cases passed in focused reruns without product changes. That serial full local command was not repeated after each follow-up. The latest-head full CI suite is the final test gate. - CI found an obsolete browser assertion that hid every channel when the flag was off. Updated it to keep AgentMail and the Channels surface visible while preserving the GitHub chat route gates. All 11 provider browser tests passed locally after scoping the Channels selector to the agent sidebar. Two initial local attempts stopped at temporary Postgres initialization. The passing run used a separate disposable database on the existing local Postgres server; it was removed after the test. - Updated the remaining sidebar and aggregator discovery assertions for default AgentMail availability. Ordinary task fixtures now return no email thread. All 128 sidebar/task-page tests and all 42 aggregator tests passed locally. - Latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`: full CI passed, with 54 successful checks including Snyk and two intentional Storybook skips. The CI run is https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37020833647. A fresh Greptile review scored 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Live model evaluations and inbound/outbound email delivery were not run. ## Risks - AgentMail no longer needs experimental opt-in. Setup still requires a human to connect an account and assign an inbox. Inline setup creates an inbox after a human submits a new or saved key. Company access, agent access, inbox assignment, and completion checks remain enforced. - AgentMail read APIs cannot prove global address availability. The visible-list check is bounded to 100 entries and cannot see inboxes outside the key’s scope. The UI reports this limitation, suggests alternatives without claiming they are free, and keeps final creation conflicts inline. Lookup outages show an error without preventing the authoritative creation attempt. - Native select CSS affects the whole app. Custom-icon selects and multi-row lists are excluded. Forced-color mode keeps the browser caret. - Saved-key discovery uses stored verified scope metadata and checks authorized legacy credentials concurrently within a shared three-second deadline. Provider outages mark legacy choices unavailable; users can still enter another key. Final use rechecks authorization and provider access. - No database migration or transport default change. Live connection remains the default. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; full-suite limitation documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green (latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`) - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups (latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`) - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(agents): persist agent files across tasks without revision history (#14420)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - An agent needs personal files across tasks and sessions. > - AGENTS.md is one file in that directory. Supporting files need the same persistence. > - The Instructions Editor and agent runs must share one current directory. > - Concurrent runs should apply only the files they change. The last sync of the same file wins. > - This pull request uses existing file transport and removes temporary copies after sync. > - Old instruction-only sessions keep their restore contract. New saves do not create revision history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14325. This replaces its revision-oriented design with persistent agent files. Keep #14325 unmerged. Transport prerequisite #14416 merged first at `d172197117a14b80a1eb2d2835a0e7cce2679656`. This PR now targets master and remains below 100 changed files. Related work: #4513 and #8798 cover instruction tooling. This change handles run synchronization, cross-task personal files, browser editing, and old-session restoration. ## What Changed - Keep one current directory per company and agent. Point AGENT_HOME at a temporary working copy for each active run. Keep task files and provider HOME separate. - Restore text, binary files, and nested folders through workspace transport. Exclude remote agent files from task Git snapshots with a self-ignoring file inside the reserved runtime directory; never write through repository-controlled Git metadata. - Collect after the provider and child processes have stopped. Keep resumable conversation state. - Apply changed and deleted files under the agent lock. The last sync wins for the same file. Unrelated concurrent changes survive. - Remove temporary copies after successful sync, rejected sync, and staging failure. Register ownership before copying so restart recovery can remove interrupted preparation. Retry transient synchronization up to three times. Preserve the original remote lease reference until deletion succeeds; restart cleanup never acquires a replacement sandbox. Do not create captured directories or a conflict-review queue for new runs. - Keep browser editing, stale-draft protection, and streaming binary downloads. Keep the instruction entry and text editor limited to 1 MiB. - Keep historical agent-folder sync failures on their affected runs instead of repeating them above current saved instructions. Preserve legacy candidate review and current browser-save errors. Avoid duplicate quota warnings while retaining separate sync failures when they describe a different problem. - Require target-scoped caller grants for peer instruction access, while preserving self edits, responsible-user checks, and protected-change consent. - Treat full storage as a nonblocking run warning, never an agent pause or run-admission failure. Restore already-over-quota saved folders so ordinary agent cleanup can recover; warn on each run until cleanup. The run detail view shows the warning. - Allow 256 MiB per file, 2 GiB per directory, and 100,000 entries. Hash large files as streams. Check editor-save quotas with metadata instead of hashing unrelated files. - Preserve old native inputs, instruction-only copies, paths, digests, and pending legacy candidates. Adopt old revision heads once. New writes do not append history rows. - Add idempotent migration 0287 and verify upgrades from the preview tables and receipts. - Add nine interactive stories under **Agents / Persistent files**, including automatic incoming edits, stale browser drafts, and storage-limit diagnostics. ## Verification - Merge candidate: `4f5390107ec6ffd80a76d1d2e85530e66f21d079`, after merging current master and the landed transport prerequisite. Integration required no manual conflict resolution; the feature remains 99 changed files. Full workspace typecheck, production build, token gates, and 715 focused tests passed on this merge candidate. Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. All 55 checks passed, with four conditional skips, including the build, typecheck, browser E2E, and canary dry run. A single retry recovered four jobs interrupted by runner shutdowns; no source changes were required. - Historical-warning UI fix: all 6,834 UI tests across 640 files passed, including regression coverage for three old failures, legacy preserved edits, and warnings scoped to the affected run. Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and token gates passed. Browser-verified Storybook playtests passed for Historical Failures After Successful Save, Storage Limit, and Full Storage Run Warning. - Review follow-ups at `4e20c9fb2`: all 18 focused tests passed, including external Git directories, linked worktrees, symlinks, hardlinks, and distinct I/O failures alongside storage warnings. Server and UI typechecks, token gates, and the production build passed. - Storage warning regressions at `0724f3012`: all 33 directory tests and all five heartbeat-list tests passed, with no skips in their successful runs. They cover repeated runs while full, an already-over-quota saved folder, cleanup, warnings retained after unrelated save failures, and bounded warnings in large result JSON. Server typecheck passed after the final warning fixes. - Full workspace typecheck, production build, and token gates passed during this follow-up. Product E2E harness: 631 tests passed across 52 files; harness typecheck passed. Earlier native session/context and directory/legacy collection suites passed 537 tests; Runner unit/transport suites passed 329 tests. - **Real E2E at `0724f3012` (before this follow-up):** legacy local Codex and native Daytona Codex each passed six tasks, one server restart, seven independent assertions, and cleanup verification. Both prove browser-to-agent edits, agent-to-browser edits, nested/binary restoration, per-file last-sync-wins, a successful run after an oversized save rejection, and cleanup clearing the warning. - Native local Codex also passed the six-task quota flow before the final warning-retention fixes. That pass began at `918d1ed02` while the bounded-result warning fix was being edited, so it is not claimed as exact-final-head evidence. Its final-head rerun failed during embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap before any provider run: the macOS host had 87,365 of 87,381 SysV semaphores occupied. No unrelated services or kernel limits were changed. - The final-source report intentionally records **2/3 cells passed**, preserving the blocked native-local attempt: `tests/runner-e2e/results/agent-files-quota-final-20260928-report/`. Earlier failed attempts and provenance notes remain under `tests/runner-e2e/results/agent-files-quota-final-20260928-input/` and the original campaign directories. - Daytona used immutable image `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:5643f0d801417cae3581833a1a3bc6715b325e028602738d2652c44cac5dc6bf` and its exact Linux runner binary. Controller source is `0724f3012`; image source is recorded separately. - Legacy-session compatibility and all three ACP Stop/resume browser regressions passed on the prior validated feature head `169fab46d5af21caa2269b4c1b29b69c933a6951`. They assert the same provider session is retained and interrupted writes are not replayed. Migration upgrade tests also passed earlier. - Nine interactive stories are under **Agents / Persistent files**, including **Full Storage Run Warning**. Its playtest and visual browser inspection passed; the warning states that runs continue and the editor remains available. - Prior-head checks on `4e20c9fb2`: 55 passed, two conditional jobs skipped, no failures or pending checks. All eight browser E2E shards and their aggregate passed. Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 with no findings; all review threads are resolved, the security scan passed, and GitHub reports no merge conflicts. - The broad local follow-up test run was interrupted after host semaphore exhaustion affected isolated PostgreSQL instances. It also encountered the existing macOS long-path fixture failure and two timeout failures. This is not a claim that the full local suite passed. Logs are retained; focused storage/warning tests passed. ## Risks - A later sync can overwrite an earlier edit to the same file, including a saved browser edit. There is no text merge or retained version. This is the intended last-sync-wins policy. - A save that exceeds a storage limit is rejected and its temporary copy is discarded. The run itself continues normally, and later runs restore the last saved files with a warning until cleanup. Transient sync failures get bounded retries. An I/O failure partway through a sync can leave some files updated; a failed receipt does not claim whole-folder success. - Larger folders increase copy time, network traffic, and temporary disk usage. Active runs still need working copies. Terminal runs do not accumulate archives. Operators must provision disk for agents and configured concurrency; these limits are not company-wide quotas. - A restored old native session remains instruction-only until a fresh session starts. Its original conflict fence and existing pending candidates remain compatible. - Provider processes close at the collection boundary. Conversation resume remains available, but warm process reuse is lost. - Backups must include the instance filesystem and database. External bundles keep their existing behavior until explicitly moved to managed storage. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The session does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. Reasoning, code execution, and browser tools assisted this change. Real provider E2E uses `gpt-5.6-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Fry (Paperclip) <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover authentication and browser connection failures (#13724)
fix: recover authentication and browser connection failures Include connect timeouts in the bounded retry policy for idempotent actor synchronization. Handle WebSocket constructor failures through existing reconnect paths and preserve HTTP polling while realtime is unavailable. Refresh visible company queries until the socket recovers and clear all fallback timers on hiding or unmount. Verify 172 focused tests, server/UI typechecks, UI build, and design token gates. Full workspace build/typecheck require the unavailable Rust toolchain; the full test run is tracked separately. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Reduce run polling and workspace inspection amplification (#13174)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and shows run progress to operators. > - Run lists, live events, transcripts, and workspace details must remain responsive as usage grows. > - Run-list redaction rereads the full context for every run. Hidden tabs can still trigger requests through live events and manual timers. > - Workspace detail reads repeat Git inspection even when concurrent callers request the same state. > - This pull request batches registry reads, pauses hidden-tab refreshes, and caches Git inspection for display. > - Cleanup keeps fresh Git checks, and redaction keeps company and run boundaries. ## Linked Issues **What happened?** Run-list responses perform one extra database read per run and parse full context JSON to obtain small secret registries. Hidden tabs continue transcript reads and event-triggered refetches. Workspace detail requests repeat Git scans. **Expected behavior** A run list reads registries once. Hidden tabs stop recurring run reads and reconcile when visible. Concurrent workspace detail reads share a short-lived Git result. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open run lists and task transcripts in several tabs while agents run. 2. Hide some tabs and observe transcript and event-triggered requests. 3. Request a 200-run list and count redaction database queries. 4. Request the same workspace detail concurrently and count Git inspections. Related: #5255 adjusts polling cadence. This change addresses hidden-tab lifecycle, batched registry reads, and workspace inspection reuse. No duplicate with this scope was found. ## What Changed - Batch heartbeat and live-run redaction into one company-scoped registry query. Select only registry JSON for run and issue redaction. - Resolve duplicate secret values once per request. Preserve each run's registry and remove registry material from responses. - Suspend company event sockets and transcript reads while hidden. Refresh active queries and resume transcript offsets on return. - Prevent queued event invalidations and developer health polling from fetching in hidden tabs. Gate legacy run-log readers in both UI variants. - Exclude legacy plugin placeholder connections from remote health probes. Select only due connection IDs in SQL before the sweep limit. Preserve existing plugin records. - Cache concurrent Git display inspections for five seconds, with at most 256 entries. Leave close-readiness and cleanup checks uncached. - Add regression coverage and document the performance behavior. - Stabilize the existing Rust descendant-lineage fixture: allow a bounded 30 seconds for 300 durable notifications under concurrent test load, retaining every correctness assertion and adding timeout diagnostics. ## Verification - Regression coverage verifies one registry query for 200 runs, per-run isolation, request-local secret resolution, decryption failures, Git cache expiry/bounds, hidden-tab pause, and visibility recovery. - Real PostgreSQL redaction/run-route suites passed all 57 tests; workspace-service coverage passed. The health-sweep regression verifies plugin placeholders and chat connections remain untouched and do not consume the sweep limit. - Both legacy transcript viewers retain history and resume their byte offset after visibility changes. The related visibility/progress/chunk suites passed all 29 tests. Other focused UI suites and token gates passed. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. Affected-package typechecks/builds passed after review fixes. The concurrent Rust provider suite passed 84 tests (two ignored), and Rust formatting passed. - Full local `pnpm test:run` stopped after the general-server group: 10,538 passed, 65 skipped, four failed. Fresh chat-delivery and health-sweep reruns passed; building the debug runner fixture cleared the native-event test. One unchanged native-session recovery assertion still fails locally with a semantic-digest error instead of the expected settled-session message. The full local command is therefore not green. CI runs the later groups separately and skips the two native-session tests requiring a prebuilt runner binary (confirmed in its 37-test native-session suite). - All CI gates pass on final head `ee610e737`: typechecking, general and serialized tests, browser tests, runner verification, build, and canary dry run. One server shard passed on its single retry after exposure fixtures encountered port 42001 where they assumed 42000; that suite also passed locally (25 passed, three platform-specific skips). - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5 with no actionable findings. ## Risks - Workspace delivery display can lag local Git changes by five seconds. Destructive operations still inspect current state. - Hidden tabs do not receive company live-event notifications until visible. Active queries refresh on return. - This change preserves legacy plugin records and does not repair instance-specific workspace rows. There is no database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser inspection. The exact model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted regressions; full-suite limitation documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. The work records `gpt-6-astra` assistance. The environment does not report a context-window size. fix(ui): remove action buttons from agent list (#13101)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agents list helps operators scan names, roles, and status. > - Each row also shows task, heartbeat, trace, pause, and overflow controls. > - These controls add a second line to every row and crowd the list. > - This pull request removes the action bar from list rows. > - Operators can still use agent detail pages for those actions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #7543 introduced list actions. #13011 moved the row actions onto a separate line. No duplicate fix was found. **What happened?** The `/agents/all` list shows Assign Task, Run Heartbeat, Run with provider trace, Pause or Resume, and an overflow menu below each agent. **Expected behavior** The agent list should show agent information without this action bar. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open `/agents/all` in an organization with agents. 2. Select the list view. 3. Inspect the controls below each agent name. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in source at |

fix: repair runner configuration, macOS execution, and artifact galleries (#13062)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent adapters select a provider, a model, and a runtime. > - Runner conversion rejected existing Claude agents. The model list mixed providers. > - The native Claude runner rejected custom models and could not launch on macOS. > - This pull request fixes conversion, model selection, and verified macOS execution. > - It also groups configuration fields consistently across adapters and opens artifact images in the task gallery. > - Operators can change an agent configuration and run the selected model on their Mac. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Converting an existing Claude agent to Paperclip Runner failed with a Codex-only restriction. ACPX Claude showed unrelated models and required `claude-sonnet-5`. Its native runtime rejected macOS. Configuration mixed common model settings with process controls. Artifact cards labeled “Open gallery” navigated to attachment URLs instead of opening the task gallery. **Expected behavior** Conversion keeps agent identity and compatible settings. ACPX Claude uses the normal Claude catalog and accepts typed model IDs. Codex uses the native runner. The verified Claude runtime can launch on macOS ARM64 and x64. Common configuration sections place the same fields together across adapters. Artifact images open in the shared task gallery with navigation and downloads. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the configuration of an existing Claude agent. 2. Convert it to Paperclip Runner. 3. Select ACPX Claude and a different catalog model or a typed model ID. 4. Save the agent and run a disposable task on macOS. 5. Inspect configuration and advanced run-policy controls across adapters. **Paperclip version or commit** The bugs were reproduced on `165ca56a22adb60e5fda56045442d9c8498116a8`. This branch was rebased onto `7ed122911`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Local test-drive instance on macOS ARM64 with an isolated database. Related work: #11798 addresses unsupported ACP session options in the existing adapter path. #13048 addresses working-folder preservation. This change fixes native runner configuration and launch behavior. ## What Changed - Remove the Codex-only conversion restriction. Preserve agent identity, instructions, directories, credentials, and compatible model settings. Reset incompatible sessions while retaining history. - Show ACPX Claude and native Codex as distinct provider choices. Remove ACPX Codex from advertised configuration. Normalize legacy configurations before fresh runs without rewriting historical run descriptors. - Select model catalogs and cache entries by provider. Support refresh and typed model IDs. Pass exact Claude IDs through session creation, model changes, and recovery. - Add verified macOS ARM64 and x64 Claude SDK snapshots. Bound executable allocation and total snapshot size. Preserve package checks, dependency isolation, process ownership, cancellation, and Linux descriptor loading. - Probe local runtime readiness. Report remote platform checks as incomplete until the remote runner verifies its runtime. - Surface actual model rejection and allow correction and retry. - Repair missing ACPX goal-capability helpers exposed by the post-rebase live test. Persist and restore the optional capability without breaking session startup. - Put Agent identity first and intentionally remove the Capabilities editor, as requested. This is removal of UI editing, not relocation: preserve existing capability metadata and API compatibility without adding another editor. Use the themed select for configurable permission modes, with normal text instead of monospace. - Put model and provider under Adapter. Give environment variables their own section. Fold command and arguments under Configuration. Fold lifecycle, timeout, and interrupt grace under Advanced Run Policy. Hide single-option permission controls. - Open image and video artifact cards in the existing task gallery, including cards in the artifacts panel. Chat attachment images use the same gallery. Preserve standalone media previews and download links. ## Verification - Rebased focused UI/API/database suites: 293 tests passed. - Rebased native runtime and ACPX suites: 242 passed, 7 skipped. - Repository typecheck, build, and token gates passed for the runner changes. Gallery follow-up UI typecheck, build, and token gates also passed. - Follow-up UI suites passed (86 tests), packaging checks passed (14 tests), and the final focused runtime suites passed (126 passed, 7 skipped). - Linux container isolation and lifecycle fixtures passed before rebase (57 passed, 2 skipped). Rust ACPX provider-session tests passed after rebase (8 tests). - Browser tests completed actual Claude and native Codex tasks on macOS ARM64. They covered conversion, catalog refresh, a non-default catalog model, a typed `haiku` ID, save/reload, cancel, follow-up session continuity, invalid-model errors, and recovery. - Final-revision live tests completed a typed Claude task, a follow-up with the same provider session, and a native Codex task on macOS ARM64. - Browser tests confirmed the moved interrupt-grace field saves and survives reload. Cross-adapter tests cover Claude, Codex, Gemini, process, gateway, and schema forms. - Full local run: 7,080 passed, 30 skipped, and two timeouts. Both timeout suites passed on isolated rerun (84 tests); the failures were the plugin login-worker exit diagnostic and the runner real-server vertical slice. - Final follow-up checks: 50 registry tests and 45 snapshot/installation tests passed (6 platform-specific skips). Oversized executable rejection is covered before allocation or reading; unsupported-platform tests invoke the real installation probe. - Runner head `ddb5101c483a297f74875ab96b3c66035b002d50`: all CI gates green, including full runner verification, repository build, typecheck, general/serialized server suites, browser tests, and canary dry run. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34286178670). - Greptile: 5/5 on that runner head. All four review threads resolved. Superagent, Socket, and Snyk checks green. - After snapshot hardening, another real Claude task completed on this Mac using the rebuilt runtime. - Gallery follow-up: 148 focused tests passed, covering artifact selection, shared attachment collections, deduplication, image/video cards, standalone previews, downloads, and closing. Live browser verification completed on the settings follow-up: artifact selection, 6-image pagination with wrapping, download action, and closing all stayed on the same task URL. All checks passed on gallery head `96136da58ff195bf6ca00b281eb3022ad12d7bd8`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34287987536). Greptile returned 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads. - Final settings polish: 96 focused tests, UI typecheck/build, and token gates passed. A real browser walkthrough verified readable permission options, identity placement, Capabilities removal, and permission save/reload. Original test-agent permission mode restored. All 31 checks passed on final head `e46540d6bf32bfb0566dca16b2f4a75ba437618c`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34292797886). Greptile returned 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Capabilities intentionally has no editable UI field after this change. Existing values remain readable and API-compatible; removing the field does not erase stored metadata. - macOS launch now copies verified package files into private snapshots. The implementation must retain isolation and clean up snapshots on exit. - Runtime provider or model changes reset the current session. Historical runs remain available. - The macOS x64 SDK executable digest was verified, but a live Intel Mac run was not available. Linux verification used container fixtures, not a real Claude task. - Remote environment tests report a warning when only the platform has been checked. They do not claim package readiness from the server host. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact served model identifier and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, Rust and TypeScript tests, and browser automation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites and both timeout suites on rerun; full-run counts above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: simplify agent onboarding and configuration (#13011)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators create agents and configure their runtimes in the board UI. > - The old creation flow presents several choices and a large form before an agent can start. > - The existing onboarding controls already provide clear provider connection steps. > - This pull request uses those controls in a new-agent wizard and organizes the full configuration pages. > - Operators can connect, test, save, and assign a first task while keeping the existing configuration tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #10974. That earlier open PR also reorganizes agent configuration. This PR follows the reviewed Storybook designs for agent creation and the current configuration tabs. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent creation, provider connection, runtime tests, and full agent configuration. **Current behavior** The creation dialog leads to a large manual configuration form. Provider login controls differ from onboarding. Environment variables and secret access appear in separate places. **Proposed behavior** Choose a name and adapter. Connect Claude or Codex through the existing onboarding controls. Configure and test the runtime, save the agent, and open a task dialog with that agent assigned. Use the same design on the existing configuration tabs. **Reason and benefit** The first setup asks for fewer decisions. The full editor keeps instructions, skills, runtime controls, secret access, permissions, keys, and revisions available in clear sections. **Breaking changes** The board creation and configuration layouts change. The test-environment API adds an optional, allowlisted `testCredentials` field for one-shot probes. Database contracts stay the same. Native ACPX tests now reject unsupported local platforms before a CLI login can mask the runtime restriction. ## What Changed - Added a new-agent wizard with numbered steps, adapter branding, provider connections, editable model choices, runtime tests, and confirmation. - Added Codex app-server, Claude ACPX, and OpenCode runner choices. - Stored API credentials through existing secret APIs and persisted references in agent configuration. New setup keys are isolated from credentials used by existing agents. - Preserved external-agent invitations beside the wizard, including optional messages, one-time prompts, and clipboard fallback. - Added OpenRouter provider and secret bindings for Pi and OpenCode. - Added adapter-specific prerequisite fields for Cursor, Gemini, Kimi, and Hermes. Cursor Cloud keys are saved as new organization secrets. - Fixed Cursor Cloud repository field mapping, omitted empty remote environment values, and added useful model and repository error messages. - Preserved complete MCP assignments when multiple valid profiles contain more than 250 tools in total. Generated profiles retain exact tool selectors. - Added service branding and deployment-aware adapter choices. Cloud setup offers Claude, Codex, and OpenCode; local native runners require the experimental setting. - Made the agent list responsive at intermediate widths. - Applied the reviewed design to the real agent configuration pages. Kept the instruction editor, skills, and existing mutations. - Combined secret access and environment variables under one Save and Discard action. - Added interactive Storybook screens for setup, configuration, confirmation, authentication, and test results. - Fixed Pi provider-error parsing and thinking-effort persistence. Native ACPX validates Linux x64 on the actual local, SSH, or sandbox target. - Redacted the complete transient probe-credential field from HTTP error logs, including rejected provider names. ## Verification - Current head `df0292fe6` has a fresh Greptile 5/5 review with no unresolved findings. All 31 executed CI checks passed, including the aggregate verification gate and all browser E2E shards. Storybook visual regression is skipped by its workflow; the local Storybook build passed. - Browser tests completed real assigned tasks with direct Codex, Claude, OpenCode, Pi, and native Codex. - Verified external-agent invitation generation and automatic prompt copying in the live browser. - Pi and OpenCode used an existing OpenRouter secret. Browser checks covered save and reload, instruction edits, skill selection, environment-variable Save and Discard, and assigned task creation. - Invalid Claude API credentials remained on the connection step with an error. A live Pi/OpenRouter invalid-key probe returned a provider failure and left the user-secret inventory unchanged (zero entries before and after). - Full workspace typecheck and build passed after rebasing onto current master. After review fixes, server and UI typechecks, token gates, and the full build passed again. Storybook built successfully. - All 5,542 local UI tests passed. The Cursor Cloud and Pi adapter regressions passed all 24 tests. Review regressions passed 69 server tests and all 18 agent-list tests. - The local full test command ran 6,971 general server tests successfully. Editing review fixes during that long run caused nine tests to use stale modules; fresh isolated runs passed. An unrelated embedded-Postgres fixture hit the host shared-memory limit; its 15 affected tests passed when the fixture groups ran separately. - Local workspace groups passed after rerunning 18 CLI tests sequentially to avoid host database limits and parallel-load timeouts. The local full command stopped at the general server phase, so serialized server verification comes from the five passing CI shards. - Browser testing at 390px confirmed that the agent action menu opens and the page has no horizontal overflow. CI browser E2E shards passed. - Review the `Onboarding / New agent` and `Agents / Configuration refresh` Storybook groups. In the real app, create an agent, run its connection test, save it, assign a task, and reload its configuration. ## Risks - This changes the main agent setup and configuration UI. Regression tests cover routing, persistence, secret bindings, and form actions. - Native Claude ACPX requires Linux x64. Direct Claude works on macOS. Remote checks execute a bounded platform probe and reject unsupported or unverified targets. - A native OpenCode task reached the provider context limit because of its tool payload. Its provider connection test passed. Direct OpenCode completed a task. This existing native execution limit is not fixed here. - Claude and Codex connection keys use the existing user-secret store. Other runtime setup keys use distinct organization secrets. Existing credentials are never rotated. Probes do not store entered keys. Failed agent creation removes newly staged credentials. - Cursor Cloud has not completed a live task. Its authenticated account still needs GitHub repository access. The live run passed MCP provisioning, remote environment validation, and explicit Auto model selection before the repository prerequisite blocked execution. - Generated runtime MCP profiles can exceed the public profile-edit request limit. They still contain exact catalog selectors and preserve permission boundaries. - No database migration, dependency, lockfile, or workflow changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The runtime did not expose the exact model ID or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: use the responsible person's GitHub for shared agent operations (#13005)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Several people can send instructions to the same agent and task. > - A fixed GitHub token in the provider process can keep the first person's access after another person's message is accepted. > - Task ownership cannot select credentials for each accepted instruction or preserve the identity of an operation already in progress. > - This pull request records ordered execution identity contexts and resolves credentials when managed Git, gh, or GitHub tools start. > - The benefit is automatic personal GitHub access for shared agents, with durable continuation rules and no teammate credential fallback. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: orchestration, connection grants, database, runtime adapters, native runners, and run details. **Problem or motivation** A shared agent must use the person whose instructions it has accepted. A queued message must retain its author. A retry or approval without new instructions must retain the originating identity. GitHub must remain optional for ordinary work. **Proposed solution** Persist execution identity separately from task ownership. Give new processes a run-scoped broker capability and token-free managed launchers. Capture identity at operation start. Keep an explicit dedicated-agent grant as an override. Show redacted diagnostics in run details. **Alternatives considered** Per-task ownership, fixed provider tokens, and mutable repository author configuration do not handle accepted steering or concurrent operations. A manual account-selection action would add unnecessary setup to each turn. **Roadmap alignment** This completes the existing Multiple Human Users, MCP Tool Gateway & Apps, Secrets Manager, and Self-healing Runs capabilities. The implementation follows the maintainer-approved plan. Related work: Refs #12843, Refs #12907. Existing proposals #4618 and #8945 cover per-agent or per-worktree author configuration. This change instead follows the accepted human instruction across runtime types. Refs #11831 for governed personal connection delegation; this change preserves connection audience checks and does not use standing delegation as a personal credential fallback. ## What Changed - Add durable, ordered identity contexts and active run references. Preserve message authors through consolidation, steering, retries, delegation, approvals, routines, and restart. - Add an authenticated operation-time GitHub credential broker and local/remote managed git and gh launchers. Keep personal tokens out of the long-lived provider process. - Resolve GitHub gateway and server-side Git operations through the same responsible-person or dedicated-grant selection rules. - Make absent and unavailable GitHub credentials non-blocking at generic startup. Clear host and prior-person credentials. Keep anonymous Git access where supported. - Add run-detail identity history and the dedicated-account warning. Keep task ownership and queue-versus-steer decisions unchanged. - Preserve personal OAuth declarations through connection edits. Retain exact selected grants in the gateway. - Fix continuation races found during real acceptance: verify a warm owner before credential rotation, and wait for bounded durable runner suspension before the next run starts. - Make migrations replay-safe. Retain identity through agent/run deletion, remove it with its company, and clean terminal launcher directories before releasing execution environments. Document coordinated release and rollback. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck, build, and token gates passed. The complete local suite passed in its normal test groups: 17,120 passing tests, including all 143 serialized server suites. After integrating the newly merged runner API work, full local typecheck and build passed again, along with 890 focused integration tests. All 31 checks on the integrated revision passed, including build, browser E2E, release registry, canary dry run, typecheck, security and all test suites. Greptile is 5/5 with all review threads resolved. - Current focused checks passed: 142 native executor tests, 67 runtime lifecycle tests, 9 durable identity tests, 75 credential/routine tests, 19 low-trust/resumption tests, and the executable migration replay test. - Authenticated browser acceptance with two Paperclip users and two GitHub accounts on one shared native agent passed. Real commits and pushes followed A → B accepted steering → queued A continuation in the same saved conversation. GitHub commit author and committer identities matched all three operations. Both runs succeeded and task ownership stayed unchanged. - Real GitHub MCP calls switched from A to B after accepted steering. A delegated subtask retained its originating identity across a server restart. - Disabling B's GitHub connection left ordinary work successful. Managed gh was unauthenticated and the provider had no inherited GH_TOKEN or GITHUB_TOKEN. - The browser displayed run-detail diagnostics and the exact dedicated-account warning. A final controller-restart check followed by another-person continuation retained the conversation, selected the correct GitHub login and Git author, and removed each terminal launcher directory. - Company-lifetime migration and all five previously failing CI suites passed locally (167 tests). Same-token gateway A → B → A and six broker/launcher boundary tests passed. - Remote callback, launcher, sandbox, and runtime contract tests passed. Both native and legacy Codex completed actual Daytona executions on the integrated revision ([campaign results](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34155056509)). The remote package-manager shim staging regression also passed locally. ## Risks - Deploy the migrations, server broker, launchers, and runner artifacts together. Existing processes finish with their original contract. New managed processes need the broker endpoint for GitHub operations. - Finish or stop new managed executions before rolling application code back. Keep the additive schema and identity history during rollback. - Scripts that require a persistent raw GH_TOKEN must use managed git, gh, or GitHub gateway tools. Run capabilities authorize code executing within that run to acquire its current identity; this is not hostile-code isolation within one execution principal. Managed commands prevent automatic credential carryover; arbitrary code deliberately copying a credential is outside that boundary. - Uncertain steering acknowledgement deliberately holds new credential acquisition until reconciliation. Already-started operations retain their captured identity. - GitHub private access and provider outages can still fail the specific operation that needs them. Dedicated grant failure does not fall back to personal access. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted implementation, review, shell execution, and browser acceptance. The exact model variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Tool use included TypeScript and Rust tests, database integration tests, GitHub CLI, and authenticated browser control. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add administration and observability (#12641)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Administrators need bounded controls for experimental native execution. > - The lower stack adds remote Codex execution and the task workspace. > - Operators need to configure Codex safely and inspect provider traces. > - Unsupported providers must not appear as runnable choices. > - This pull request adds Codex-only administration and observability. > - The benefit is a default-off operational surface for production diagnosis. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12640. Refs #12616. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Agent configuration, instance experimental settings, run ledger, provider trace inspector, and administrator actions. **Problem or motivation** The native runner lacks one safe operator surface for Codex permissions, lifecycle, raw trace capture, and run inspection. The integration branch also contains provider choices that the production backend cannot execute yet. **Proposed solution** Expose only the qualified Codex controls. Keep Paperclip Developer Mode and runner preview ingress off by default. Gate raw trace actions by administrator access and existing trace authorization. **Alternatives considered** Exposing unfinished providers would create configurations that fail at runtime. Always-on tracing would increase sensitive data and storage risk. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports governed Cloud and Sandbox agents and production diagnostics. ## Stack - Base PR: #12640. - Lower PRs: #12639 and #12638. - This PR contains only its 54-file administration and observability delta. - This is the final feature PR in the Codex production stack. ## What Changed - Added Codex-only Paperclip Runner permission and lifecycle controls. - Added bounded warm idle configuration. - Kept the provider field fixed to Codex. - Added administrator-only one-run raw trace requests. - Added a persistent future-run raw trace toggle. - Added trace status, metadata, ledger, and canonical runner inspection. - Added JSON-RPC request-origin grouping and finalization lineage. - Restored the stateful PRP transcript parser and focused projection tests required by trace inspection. - Added default-off Paperclip Developer Mode. - Added Honeycomb run links for authorized developer mode. - Disabled the legacy operational skill for `paperclip_runner`. - Did not expose OpenCode, ACPX, Pi, Claude Managed, or AWS runner choices. - Did not change migrations, workflows, dependencies, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run UI tests, server tests, repository typecheck, build, browser tests, security, and policy gates. - Tests cover Codex configuration defaults and bounds, administrator trace actions, persistent settings, ledger inspection, trace lineage, and Honeycomb links. - Existing server trace authorization and retention tests remain the backend authority. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check runner/task-workspace-experience...HEAD` passes. - The delta contains 54 files. ## Risks - Raw provider traces can contain sensitive provider data. - Existing server authorization controls access, reveal, download, retention, and deletion. - The UI gates trace actions by administrator access and developer mode. - All new instance settings remain off by default. - Fresh Paperclip Runner configuration remains Codex-only. - Direct adapters and legacy task behavior do not change in this PR. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. fix(ui): prevent false agent instruction saves (#12502)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Operators edit each agent instruction bundle in the agent detail page > - The rich Markdown editor can normalize content and emit an onChange event while it mounts > - Paperclip treated that editor event as a user edit and retained the dirty state after the tab unmounted > - This pull request accepts rich-editor changes only after real user interaction and clears shared edit state when the instructions tab closes > - The benefit is that opening instructions or moving between agent tabs no longer shows false save controls or navigation warnings ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Opening an agent Instructions page could mark the page as edited without user input. The page showed Save and Cancel controls and warned about unsaved changes during unrelated tab navigation. The shared edit callbacks could remain active after the Instructions tab unmounted. **Expected behavior** Opening an instruction file must not create a draft. Save controls and navigation warnings must appear only after a user changes content. Leaving the Instructions tab must clear its shared dirty, saving, save, and cancel state. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open an agent Instructions tab with a Markdown entry file. 2. Do not edit the file. 3. Move to another agent tab or navigate away. 4. Observe false save controls or an unsaved-changes prompt. **Paperclip version or commit** Current `master` before this change. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server and local development. ## What Changed - Ignore rich Markdown editor normalization events until keyboard, pointer, paste, input, drop, or before-input interaction occurs. - Reset the interaction guard when the selected file, agent, or persisted content changes. - Clear the parent dirty, saving, save, and cancel state when the Instructions tab unmounts. - Add regression tests for mount normalization and cross-tab state cleanup. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/AgentDetail.instructions.test.tsx src/pages/AgentDetail.liveRun.test.ts src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx` — 76 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — the relevant UI tests passed. The local full runner reproduced unrelated workspace-runtime failures present on `master`; GitHub CI is the authoritative isolated full-suite gate. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — the changed files are clean. The command reports nine existing color literals in `ui/src/components/onboarding/PillGuy.tsx` from `master`. ## Risks - Low risk. The change affects only local instruction-editor dirty-state tracking. - The interaction guard covers keyboard, pointer, paste, input, drop, and before-input events. - There are no API, database, migration, or visual design changes. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 family. The deployment model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): move agent secret access to searchable secrets tab (#11283)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agent configuration UI controls each agent and its allowed secrets. > - The environment variable editor already has a secret selector with search and folder navigation. > - The secret access editor used a basic list and made large secret stores hard to use. > - The secret access controls also occupied the main Configuration tab. > - This pull request reuses the rich selector and moves secret access to a dedicated Secrets tab. > - The benefit is one consistent secret selection workflow with clearer agent configuration navigation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The agent detail configuration view and its secret access editor. **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React and Vite board UI. **Current behavior** The secret access editor uses a basic select control. It does not provide the search and folder navigation available in the environment variable editor. The editor also appears inside the Configuration tab. **Proposed behavior** The secret access editor uses the shared secret picker. Users can search secrets and browse slash-delimited folders. Agent details provide a dedicated Secrets tab for this editor. **Reason and benefit** Large secret stores are slow to scan in a flat list. Reusing one selector reduces UI differences and makes scoped secret access easier to manage. **Breaking changes** None. The API and saved secret access data do not change. ## What Changed - Reused the environment variable secret picker in the agent secret access editor. - Preserved secret version selection and the create-secret action, including nested-popover focus handling. - Added a route-backed Secrets tab to agent details and removed secret access controls from Configuration. - Guarded unsaved configuration across tab, link, browser-history, and action-triggered navigation. - Rechecked dirty state when navigation-producing agent actions finish, covering edits made while a request is pending. - Added component, page, and Storybook coverage for the workflow. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/AgentActionButtons.test.tsx src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx src/components/AgentSecretAccessEditor.test.tsx src/components/environment-variables-editor/EnvironmentVariablesEditor.test.tsx src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts` — 82 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - All GitHub PR checks passed on `5209c5b787`, including build, canary, general and serialized tests, and all three e2e shards. - Greptile completed at 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Low risk. The API and persisted binding format are unchanged; this changes agent configuration navigation and secret selection UI. - Dirty-state guards now cover direct navigation, Back/Forward history, and navigation-producing agent actions, including pending-request races. - Tests cover tab separation, secret access updates, search, folder navigation, focus restoration, and navigation rejection. - No documentation change is required because commands, contracts, and setup steps do not change. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5. This runtime did not expose a more specific model ID or context window. The model used agentic reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): keep selected run lifecycle and logs current (#10169)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip's agent-run detail view combines live lifecycle events, detail queries, and persisted shell logs. > - Queued runs do not have a log reference yet, so polling the log endpoint returns expected-but-noisy 404s. > - Simply disabling queued log polling can strand the selected detail cache at `queued` or leave terminal lifecycle fields stale. > - The detail cache therefore needs both live lifecycle patches and an HTTP fallback while the run is active. > - Both the selected-run query and the shared transcript hook must avoid reading persisted logs before execution starts. > - This pull request disables queued log polling in both paths, patches lifecycle fields, invalidates authoritative detail data, and polls run state only while active. > - The benefit is quiet queued runs, reliable queued-to-running transitions, and complete final log handoff. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No exact duplicate found. I searched open PRs for `queued run`, `log polling`, and `run lifecycle`; related results addressed stale queued execution or dashboards rather than selected-run log/detail synchronization. **What happened?** Opening or rendering a queued run caused repeated `GET /api/heartbeat-runs/:id/log` 404s from both the selected detail and shared transcript hydration paths. A queued-only detail guard could also leave the selected run stuck at `queued` when live delivery was missed, or stop before fetching final `logRef` and terminal fields. **Expected behavior** Queued runs should not request unavailable logs. The selected detail should transition through running to terminal via live events or bounded HTTP fallback, refresh authoritative detail data, fetch final logs, and then stop polling. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the detail page for a run waiting behind the agent concurrency limit. 2. Observe repeated log-endpoint 404s while status is queued. 3. Let the run start with WebSocket delivery unavailable or delayed. 4. Observe stale detail state without a run-detail fallback. **Environment** - Paperclip base: `14f20be92b86a49ff2c35495e5b0fa4d719998ef` - Deployment: self-hosted, built from source - Adapter scope: visible with Hermes-backed agents but not adapter-specific - [x] I searched open PRs for queued-run log polling and selected-run lifecycle synchronization; no exact duplicate was found. ## What Changed - Poll shell logs only while a run is `running`, never while `queued`. - Defer shared persisted-transcript hydration and its live WebSocket until a queued run becomes `running`; terminal runs still receive one persisted-log hydration attempt. - Patch selected run status, invocation metadata, errors, and start/finish times from lifecycle events. - Invalidate selected run detail on lifecycle events to hydrate authoritative `logRef`, result, usage, and excerpts. - Poll run detail every 5 seconds while queued and every 15 seconds while running, then stop at terminal status. - Add regression coverage for queued/running/terminal polling and lifecycle cache handoff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts` — 42 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/transcript/useLiveRunTranscripts.test.tsx` — 11 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` - Exact final diff independently reviewed: **APPROVE**, no blocking findings. - UI-only local cutover completed with the Paperclip server PID unchanged. ## Risks - The selected run performs one lightweight detail GET every 5 seconds while queued and every 15 seconds while running if it remains open. Polling stops at terminal status. - Lifecycle events still patch immediately; polling is only the fallback and authoritative hydration path. - No API, schema, or migration changes. > This is a bug fix, not roadmap feature work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex `gpt-5.6-sol`, with tool use, code execution, repository inspection, and independent read-only review agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked/described the search above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the bug template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have considered documentation; no user-facing documentation change is required - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: cucurigoo <cucurigoo@users.noreply.github.com> |

refactor(a11y): add scope=col to the agent costs table headers (#1789)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agent detail page has a Costs section. That section renders a data table of per-run spend. > - The table has a header row, but its `<th>` elements carry no `scope` attribute. > - A screen reader uses `scope="col"` to bind each data cell to its column header. Without it, the reader announces a number without telling the user which column it belongs to. > - A table of costs is exactly the case where that hurts. Every cell is a bare figure. > - This pull request adds `scope="col"` to the five header cells in that table. > - The benefit is that assistive technology announces the cost table correctly. The change is markup only, so sighted users see no difference. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue covers this. The problem is described in-PR, following the enhancement template. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Costs table rendered by `CostsSection` in `ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.tsx`. **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React + Vite board UI **Current behavior** The table renders five header cells: Date, Run, Input, Output, and Cost. None of them set `scope`. A screen reader must guess the header-to-cell relationship, so a user hears a value with no column name attached to it. **Proposed behavior** Each header cell sets `scope="col"`. A screen reader then announces the column name together with each cell, so a cost figure is read as part of the Cost column. **Reason and benefit** `scope` is the standard way to associate header cells with data cells in an HTML table. The attribute has no visual effect, so the fix carries no design cost and makes the table usable with a screen reader. **Breaking changes** None. `scope` is a presentational-neutral HTML attribute. No component API, no styling, and no test changes. **Related pull requests** - #2215 proposed the same attribute for the Routines table. It is closed, because that table no longer exists on master. - #1524 and #1522 applied `scope="col"` to other tables. Both are closed. ## What Changed - Added `scope="col"` to the five `<th>` elements in the `CostsSection` table in `ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.tsx`. - Rebased the branch onto current master. - Dropped the original `ui/src/pages/Routines.tsx` hunks. Master rebuilt the Routines page around folder-grouped rows, so the table those hunks targeted no longer exists. - Dropped the original `HintIcon` opacity change. It altered a visible colour, which is out of scope for a markup-only accessibility fix. ## Verification - Run `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`. This is a markup-only change, so a clean type-check and build is the relevant automated signal. - Open an agent detail page and go to the Costs section. Inspect the header row. Each `<th>` now carries `scope="col"`. - Navigate the same table with a screen reader, cell by cell. Each cell is announced with its column name. - Compare the rendered page before and after. It is unchanged, because `scope` has no styling effect. ## Risks Low risk. The change adds one standard HTML attribute to five header cells in a single table. It introduces no code path, changes no component API, and has no visual effect. The worst case is that the attribute is redundant for a reader that already infers the column, which is harmless. ## Model Used Anthropic Claude Opus 5, exact model ID `claude-opus-5`. It ran with extended thinking and repository read/write tools, inside a maintainer-operated triage agent. The model rebased the branch, dropped the two out-of-scope hunks, and wrote this description. The original change was authored by @bluzername, and the model used for that work is not recorded here. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` references) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — not run. This is a markup-only change and the package has no test covering this table. - [ ] I have added or updated tests where applicable — no test added, which is why this PR is titled `refactor:`. - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes — no documentation describes this markup. - [ ] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work — not checked by the maintainer who rebased this. - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green — CI re-runs on this push. - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups — Greptile re-reviews on this push. --------- Co-authored-by: Andrew Aymeloglu <aaymeloglu@gmail.com> |

feat(ui): live run label → run detail, running row → task detail (#11034)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agent detail page has a Dashboard tab. The Dashboard tab shows a "Live Run" section for the agent's current heartbeat. > - The "Live Run" section has two clickable pieces: the section heading and the running row. Both pieces linked to the same run detail page. > - Two controls that go to the same place waste a navigation affordance and hide the task the agent runs. > - This pull request splits the two destinations. The heading goes to the run. The running row goes to the task. > - The benefit is that a user reaches the run internals from the label and the work item from the row, in one click each. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The description follows the enhancement issue template. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The "Live Run" section on the agent detail page, Dashboard tab (the `LatestRunCard` component in `ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.tsx`). **Current behavior** The "Live Run" heading and the running row both link to the run detail page (`/agents/:agentId/runs/:runId`). The row shows the run code and an invocation-source chip. There is a separate "View details →" link that also goes to the run detail page. A user cannot reach the task the run works on from this section. **Proposed behavior** The heading becomes a link to the run detail page and appends the short run code, shown as `Live Run · <run code>`. The redundant "View details →" link is removed. The running row links to the task detail page when the run's context snapshot resolves to a known issue, and the row then shows the task status glyph, the task slug, and the task title. A pure timer heartbeat with no resolvable task keeps the previous behavior: run code plus source chip, linking to the run detail page. **Reason and benefit** The heading and the row now go to distinct, intuitive destinations. A user reaches the run internals from the label and the work item from the row, each in a single click. The fallback keeps heartbeats with no task readable and avoids a blank or broken row. ## What Changed - Made the "Live Run" / "Latest Run" heading a `Link` to the run detail page and appended the short run code (`run.id.slice(0, 8)`) in a mono span, formatted `Live Run · <run code>`. Kept the pulsing live dot. - Removed the redundant "View details →" link. - Changed the running row `Link` target to the task detail page (`/issues/:identifier`) when a task resolves, falling back to the run detail page otherwise. - Resolved the task from the run context snapshot (`contextSnapshot.issueId`, falling back to `contextSnapshot.taskId`) against a `Map` of the agent's assigned issues threaded in from `AgentOverview`. - When a task resolves, replaced the run code and source chip in the row with the task status glyph (`StatusGlyph`), the task slug, and the task title. Kept the running spinner, the run status badge, and the timestamp. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` → 3/3 gates clean. - `pnpm --filter ui typecheck` → passes. - `pnpm --filter ui exec vitest run src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts src/pages/AgentDetail.instructions.test.tsx` → 10/10 pass. - Manual (needs a reviewer with a browser): open an agent detail page → Dashboard tab. - For a live issue-execution run: the heading reads `Live Run · <run code>` and opens the run detail page; the row shows the task status icon, slug, and title and opens the task detail page. - For a pure timer heartbeat with no task: the row falls back to run code + source chip and opens the run detail page. No blank row. - Confirm both states in light and dark mode. ## Risks Low risk. The change is presentational and scoped to one component. The task lookup is defensive: it reads the context snapshot with a fallback key and only renders the task row when the issue is present in the already-loaded assigned-issue set, so an unknown or missing issue degrades to the previous run-detail behavior rather than breaking. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic (Claude). - Model: claude-opus-4-8 (Opus 4.8). - Context window: 200K. - Reasoning mode: extended thinking, tool use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): hide task priority from the UI (keep data model) (#11024)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks and issues carry a `priority` field that renders across many product surfaces: the detail header, the Triage properties panel, Kanban and thread cards, the New Task composer, list Sort/Group/Filter menus, search filters, and the dashboard chart. > - Product feedback found the priority level adds visual noise and decision cost without clear value in day-to-day task flow. > - We want to remove priority from the interface, but keep the data model, API, validation, and search DSL fully intact so the choice is reversible with no migration. > - This pull request hides every priority indicator and control behind one compile-time flag, `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI`, set to `false`. > - The benefit is a calmer, simpler UI now, with a single-boolean revive path and zero data loss. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description <!-- No public GitHub issue exists. Describing in-PR per the feature template. --> **Subsystem affected** The web UI (`ui/src`): issue detail, properties panel, Kanban/thread cards, New Task dialog, issues list Sort/Group/Filter menus, search filter bar/sheet, dashboard charts, and the design-guide showcase. **Problem or motivation** The task/issue priority level appears across many surfaces and adds visual clutter and decision overhead without pulling its weight in normal task flow. We want it gone from the interface without discarding the underlying data or breaking anything that depends on it. **Proposed solution** Add a single compile-time UI flag, `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI` (default `false`), and gate every priority indicator and control behind it. Leave the data model, API params, Zod validation (including the `"medium"` default), and the search filter DSL untouched. Reviving priority is a one-line flip of the flag back to `true`. **Alternatives considered** Deleting the priority code and schema outright. Rejected: it is irreversible, needs a data migration, and throws away a field the API and search still support. A gated flag keeps the change reversible and low risk. **Roadmap alignment** UI simplification. This is a presentation-only change; it does not alter core agent or data behavior. ## What Changed - Added `ui/src/lib/ui-flags.ts` exporting `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI: boolean = false` (typed `boolean` so gated branches are not flagged as dead code). - Gated the priority row in the Triage properties panel and the editable priority control in the issue detail header (plus its skeleton seed). - Gated the per-card priority icon in `KanbanBoard` and in `IssueThreadInteractionCard`. - Hid the priority chip and the mobile "more" menu priority section in the New Task dialog. The submit path still sends the `"medium"` default. - Removed the Priority options from the issues list Sort and Group-by menus; the comparator and grouping logic stay dormant. - Hid the Priority sections in the issue filters popover and in the search filter bar and sheet. The `priority:` search DSL and filter state stay functional at the data layer. - Suppressed active-filter priority pills for consistency. - Gated the "Tasks by Priority" dashboard chart and the design-guide priority showcase subsection. - Left activity-feed "changed priority" history text intact as a historical record. - Updated call-site tests to assert priority UI is absent while the flag is off, added focused hidden-surface tests, and added a test that proves creating a task still persists `priority: "medium"`. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all 3 gates clean. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — clean. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` on the touched surfaces (IssueProperties, IssueFiltersPopover, IssuesList, NewIssueDialog, IssueDetail, PriorityIcon and its interaction test) — all green under `TZ=UTC`. - Manual: with the flag off, priority does not appear in the detail header, Triage panel, New Task composer, Sort/Group/Filter menus, or the dashboard chart. Creating a task still persists `priority: "medium"`, and the `priority:` search token still filters at the data layer. ## Risks Low risk. The change is presentation-only and additive: no data model, API, validation, or search-DSL changes. The priority code paths remain compiled and tested; flipping `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI` to `true` restores the full UI. Visual snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated per the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". ## Model Used Claude Opus 4.8 (Anthropic), model id `claude-opus-4-8`, extended thinking enabled, with tool use / code execution in an agentic coding harness. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators often open self-hosted Paperclip over plain HTTP on a LAN or private network. > - Browser Clipboard API writes are not reliable in that insecure context. > - Paperclip already has one shared helper with a legacy copy fallback, but many current copy actions bypass it. > - This pull request routes every core UI copy action and the first-party workspace-diff plugin through the shared helper. > - The benefit is consistent copy behavior on HTTPS, localhost, and plain-HTTP private deployments. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #3529. This change supersedes the stale prior attempt in #3531. Current master has more copy surfaces and a first-party plugin UI bridge that the prior branch does not cover. ## What Changed - Replaced direct Clipboard API writes and duplicate fallback implementations across the current core UI with `copyTextToClipboard`. - Added an HTTP-safe clipboard function to the plugin UI SDK and wired the host bridge to the same implementation. - Migrated the first-party workspace-diff plugin to the plugin SDK clipboard function. - Added unit coverage for native rejection fallback and plugin host delegation. - Added a source-level regression test that rejects new direct clipboard writes outside the shared implementation. - Documented the plugin UI clipboard function. ## Verification - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ...` for 14 affected suites: 164 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run tests/ui-clipboard.test.ts` in `packages/plugins/sdk`: 1 test passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r typecheck`: passed for 31 workspace projects. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm test:run`: passed. - `NODE_ENV=production pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed with all gates clean. ## Risks Low risk. Secure contexts still use the modern Clipboard API. Plain HTTP and rejected modern writes use the existing `execCommand("copy")` fallback. That API is deprecated, but it is the compatibility path required for insecure contexts. The change has no schema, API, or visual design effect. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. Reasoning, tool use, repository editing, test execution, and GitHub CLI access were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(agents): warn when an agent's escalation path routes to a paused manager (#10657)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents escalate work up the org chart (`reports_to`), and operators pause agents — notably, instance imports pause every agent by default > - A paused manager does not invalidate the chain (subordinates stay invokable), so nothing surfaces when an operator unpauses workers but leaves their manager paused > - Escalations then dead-letter silently: agent-created issues assigned to the paused manager sit in a queue nothing will ever run > - This pull request computes paused ancestors in the existing org-chain health model and surfaces a non-blocking warning on the agent read models and detail page > - The benefit is that the operator learns their escalation paths are dead before work vanishes into them ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes #10647 (companion to #10648, which refuses agent-initiated assignment to paused agents at write time — this PR makes the standing hazard visible) ## What Changed - `AgentOrgChainHealth` gains two additive, optional fields: `pausedAncestors` (paused agents in the `reports_to` chain) and `escalationWarning` (human-readable, only set when the agent itself can work — a paused/terminated agent's escalation path is moot). Chain validity, invokability, and assignability are byte-identical. - No server route changes needed: the fields flow through every existing agent read model (list, detail, org chart) since they ride the same `getAgentWorkEligibility` computation. - Agent detail page shows an amber "Escalation path is paused" banner (same visual language as the invalid-chain banner, but non-blocking) with the warning text naming the paused manager and the two remedies. ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run packages/shared/src/agent-eligibility.test.ts` — 5 new cases: paused direct manager warns; paused grandparent through a healthy manager warns; the agent itself paused → no warning (but ancestors still reported); fully active chain → no warning, empty list; terminated ancestor keeps the invalid-chain classification without double-counting as paused. - Full `@paperclipai/shared` suite (392 tests) and `agent-eligibility-routes` (54) unchanged. - `tsc --noEmit` in shared, server, and ui. ## Risks - Low. Purely additive fields plus one UI banner; no behavior gates on the new data. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic) via Claude Code — extended thinking, agentic tool use. No other models involved. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(audit): agent audit UI — company page + per-agent tab (#9744)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Operators need an audit record of agent actions across tasks, comments, documents, approvals, and runs > - The permission-gated audit read API provides that record, but operators cannot inspect it in the product > - A readable UI must preserve company boundaries, server-side permission decisions, and redaction > - Audit exports must also be safe to open in spreadsheet software and must record the export itself > - This pull request adds company and per-agent audit views plus a guarded CSV export > - The benefit is a searchable, filterable, and reviewable agent action history with direct links back to work ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Feature.** This change adds the frontend and CSV export for the agent action audit log. Refs #9731 and #9735. - Problem: agent actions are recorded, but operators have no readable product surface to inspect or export them. - Solution: add a company audit page and a per-agent Audit tab that use the permission-gated audit API. - Alternative: build a separate plugin-only surface. This was rejected because the existing permission model already supports a unified, server-authoritative view. This pull request targets the audit epic branch, which contains the merged #9735 audit API. ## What Changed - Added a company Audit page and sidebar entry. - Added a per-agent Audit tab with a fixed agent filter. - Added filters for agent, responsible user, action domain, entity type, and date range. - Added task and run links, responsible-user context, cursor pagination, and readable action text. - Added a permission-denied Enterprise card for callers without `audit:view_agent_actions`. - Added a CSV export that is permission-gated, capped, self-audited, CSV-escaped, and protected against spreadsheet formula injection. - Preserved the merged audit API cursor validation, redaction, and sub-millisecond pagination behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx` — 6 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/agent-action-audit-routes.test.ts` — 8 passed with embedded PostgreSQL. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed across all workspaces. - `pnpm build` — passed across all workspaces. - `pnpm test:run` — all completed shards passed except one environment-sensitive CLI assertion caused by injected static AWS credential variables; the exact test passes 8/8 with those variables unset. - Manual Chromium QA exercised the populated feed, active filters, permission-denied card, per-agent tab, and CSV export. ## Screenshots and Manual QA - [All audit states exercised in Chromium](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9744#issuecomment-4998997001) - [Detailed browser report and per-agent tab root cause](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9744#issuecomment-4998771061) The per-agent redirect defect found during QA is fixed in this branch. ## Risks Low to moderate risk. The UI and export route are additive and use the existing company-scoped permission gate. The main risks are large exports and spreadsheet interpretation. The export is capped at 10,000 rows, records truncation accurately, and prefixes formula-like cells as text. There are no schema changes or migrations. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - Anthropic Claude Opus 4.8, 1M context, extended thinking, tool use, and code execution produced the original implementation. - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 (deployment ID and context window not exposed), reasoning, tool use, code execution, browser-test orchestration, and GitHub review tooling repaired and verified the pull request. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): leave agent detail after termination (#10451)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The agent detail page lets operators inspect one agent and run lifecycle actions from that context > - Terminated agents are removed from the normal active-agent surface, so the current detail route may no longer be fetchable after termination > - Before this change, terminating an agent from its detail page invalidated agent queries while leaving the browser on the now-stale detail route > - That refetch could surface an "Agent not found" error even though the terminate action itself succeeded > - The shared action button already owns the terminate mutation, so it can notify detail-page callers when termination succeeds > - This pull request redirects the detail page back to the agents list after a successful terminate action > - The benefit is that operators land on a valid route and the Back button does not return them to the stale terminated-agent detail route ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No direct public GitHub issue or PR was found for this detail-page termination flow. ### What happened? After terminating an agent from its detail page, the UI could remain on that agent's detail route and show an "Agent not found" error after query invalidation/refetch. ### Expected behavior Once termination succeeds, the operator should leave the now-stale detail page and land on a valid agents view. ### Steps to reproduce 1. Open a non-built-in agent detail page. 2. Use the overflow actions menu to terminate the agent. 3. Observe the post-termination route/error state. ### Paperclip version or commit Current `master` before this PR. ### Deployment mode Browser UI behavior, independent of a specific deployment mode. Duplicate search: searched public GitHub issues and PRs for `agent not found terminate`, `terminate agent detail`, and `Agent not found`; no direct duplicate or viable in-flight PR was found. ## What Changed - Added an optional `onTerminateSuccess` callback to `AgentActionButtons`, fired only after the shared terminate mutation succeeds. - Wired `AgentDetail` to replace-navigate to `/agents/all` after successful termination. - Extended `AgentActionButtons` coverage for the terminate success path, including API args, callback payload, and query invalidations. ## Verification - `corepack pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/AgentActionButtons.test.tsx` - `corepack pnpm check:token-gates` - `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD` - Local diff scan for obvious tokens, credential filenames, and email addresses found no matches. ## Risks Low risk. The new callback is optional, only fires for successful terminate actions, and preserves existing behavior for other `AgentActionButtons` callers. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent (`gpt-5`), tool use enabled for repository inspection, editing, local verification, and GitHub CLI operations. Context window details were not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add built-in summarizer and summary slots (#9713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to organize, govern, and understand AI-agent work > - Operators need concise, current status views across projects and execution workspaces without manually reading every issue and run > - Paperclip already has auditable issues, documents, built-in agents, routines, and live run events, but no first-class summary-slot workflow connecting those systems > - A built-in Summarizer can generate status prose through ordinary governed tasks while summary slots provide stable, revisioned destinations for that output > - The UI needs to show current summaries, generation progress, failures, revisions, and streaming draft status in the places operators already work > - This pull request adds the end-to-end summary-slot data, API, agent, orchestration, and UI surfaces behind an experimental setting > - The benefit is decision-oriented status context that remains company-scoped, auditable, retryable, and inexpensive by default ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. **Problem** Operators currently have to reconstruct project and workspace status by reading many issues, runs, and comments. This makes it hard to identify decisions, review queues, recent work, and the next event worth watching. **Proposed capability** Add an experimental summary system with revisioned summary slots for projects and workspaces, a paused-by-default built-in Summarizer agent, governed generation tasks, live draft status, and reusable UI cards. **Expected behavior** - Summary data remains company-scoped and revisions remain auditable. - Generation runs through normal issue/agent orchestration and deduplicates active requests. - Only the linked built-in Summarizer generation task can author a slot revision. - Operators can generate, retry, inspect revisions, and follow draft progress from project and workspace views. - The feature remains opt-in and background generation remains paused by default. ## What Changed - Added summary-slot schema, idempotent migrations, shared contracts, validators, API paths, and service tests. - Added company-scoped summary-slot routes for reading revisions, requesting generation, and guarded Summarizer writes with activity logging. - Added terminal generation finalization, failure reasons, assignment wakeups, and orchestration integration. - Added the paused-by-default built-in Summarizer bundle, low-cost runtime defaults, status-summarization skill, and stale-summary routine. - Added summary cards, revision selection, retry/configuration states, live draft streaming, transcript chunk handling, and project/workspace integrations. - Updated Claude local parsing for streamed status output and expanded server, adapter, shared, database, catalog, and UI coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/db/src/summary-slots-schema.test.ts packages/shared/src/summary-slot.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slot-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slots.test.ts server/src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.status.test.tsx ui/src/components/useSummaryDraftStream.test.tsx ui/src/lib/summary-draft-stream.test.ts ui/src/lib/run-log-chunks.test.ts ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.hook.test.tsx` — 113 tests passed - `pnpm test:run` — server and UI suites passed; one CLI AWS doctor test was affected by inherited `AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID`/`AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY`, and passed when those host credentials were removed - `pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` with inherited AWS credential variables removed — 8 tests passed - `pnpm build` - `pnpm check:token-gates` currently reports nine `#9627` comment references introduced by current `master`; none are in this PR diff ## Risks - Database risk is limited by incrementally ordered, idempotent migrations and migration safety checks. - Summary generation creates normal issues/runs, so misconfiguration can produce failed slots; the UI exposes retryable failure reasons and agent configuration entry points. - Streaming draft parsing depends on the documented `STATUS:` protocol; final persisted revisions remain the source of truth. - The feature is experimental, opt-in, and its built-in routine is paused with no background token spend by default. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5.3 Codex with reasoning, repository tool use, code execution, GitHub CLI, and Paperclip control-plane integration. Earlier branch commits also record Claude model co-authorship where applicable. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(mcp) [split 7/8]: activate Apps and gateway UI (#9562)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 7/8 and focuses on Apps/Gateways UI and feature-flagged activation > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: The standalone UI foundation needs feature-flagged routes, navigation, app detail flows, gateways, Storybook scenarios, and QA configuration. - Proposed solution: Adds Apps/Gateways pages and components, navigation/route activation, remaining page integrations, Storybook stories, and QA Vite configuration. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/06-ui-tools-foundation`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: UXDesigner sanity pass on Apps/Gateways flows and flag-off behavior; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds Apps/Gateways pages and components, navigation/route activation, remaining page integrations, Storybook stories, and QA Vite configuration. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates clean - Focused UI Vitest run with `NODE_ENV=test` — 17 files, 147 tests passed ## Risks - Navigation or flag regressions could expose incomplete experiences; activation remains controlled by existing experimental settings. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. fix(ui): cap live agent-run transcript buffers to bound tab memory (#9569)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents stream their run output live into the web UI, viewed per-run
in the `AgentDetail` transcript viewer
> - Browser tabs holding these views were sitting at 8–16 GB of memory
footprint while their JS heap stayed at ~256 MB — a 60×+ gap, meaning
the cost is in retained DOM / render objects, not JS objects
> - The `LogViewer` in `AgentDetail.tsx` kept every streamed
stdout/stderr line and structured event in unbounded React state and
rendered each into a rich DOM block (the default "nice" mode has no
virtualization), so a run streaming for hours grew an unbounded live DOM
tree
> - The sibling `useLiveRunTranscripts` hook (used by `IssueChatThread`)
already bounds its buffers and virtualizes; `LogViewer` bypassed it and
managed its own uncapped state — that inconsistency is the bug
> - This pull request caps the live buffers and bounds the live DOM
render, aligning `LogViewer` with the already-bounded path
> - The benefit is that long-lived streaming tabs no longer grow without
bound, cutting multi-GB tabs back to a bounded footprint
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public GitHub issue exists; describing inline per CONTRIBUTING.md →
"Link Issues or Describe Them In-PR", following the bug report template.
**What happened?**
Chrome's Task Manager showed multiple long-lived Paperclip tabs
(agent-run / task views) each consuming 8–16 GB of memory footprint,
while each tab's JS heap stayed at only ~150–256 MB. Memory grew
monotonically the longer a run streamed.
**Expected behavior**
A tab viewing a live agent run should hold a bounded amount of memory
regardless of how long the run streams.
**Steps to reproduce**
Open an agent run with a long-running / high-volume stream in
`AgentDetail`, leave the tab open while output streams for an extended
period, and watch the tab's memory footprint climb without bound in
Chrome's Task Manager.
**Paperclip version or commit**
`3991a19a` (branch `fix/agent-run-transcript-memory`, off `master`).
**Deployment mode**
Local dev (`pnpm dev`), web UI. Not adapter-specific — core UI bug in
the shared transcript viewer.
## What Changed
- Add `ui/src/lib/live-log-buffer.ts`: a pure `appendCapped(prev,
additions, max)` helper plus caps `MAX_LIVE_LOG_LINES=5000`,
`MAX_LIVE_EVENTS=2000`, and `LIVE_TRANSCRIPT_RENDER_LIMIT=1500`, with
rationale documented in the module.
- Add `ui/src/lib/live-log-buffer.test.ts`: 6 unit tests (append,
trim-to-cap, oversized batch, exact-cap, no-mutation, referential
bail-out).
- `ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.tsx` (`LogViewer`): route all four
live-append sites (WebSocket log / progress / event, plus the poll
fallback) through `appendCapped`, and pass
`limit={LIVE_TRANSCRIPT_RENDER_LIMIT}` to `RunTranscriptView` for live
runs so the "nice" view mounts only the most recent blocks.
- The terminated-run "Load more log" pagination is deliberately left
**uncapped** (guarded by `isLive`), so no historical output is lost —
older output remains on the server and reachable there.
## Verification
- `vitest run src/lib/live-log-buffer.test.ts` → 6/6 pass.
- Existing suites `RunTranscriptView.test.tsx`,
`AgentDetail.instructions.test.tsx`, `useLiveRunTranscripts.test.tsx` →
22/22 pass.
- `tsc -b` (UI) → clean.
- Manual/behavioral: live runs tail the last ~1500 blocks; terminated
runs still render full history via "Load more log". Follow-up planned to
profile before/after with the Chrome DevTools MCP.
## Risks
Low risk. Changes only bound **in-memory state for live runs**; the
terminated-run paginated path is untouched (still uncapped, guarded by
`isLive`). No API, schema, or persistence changes. Worst case for a live
run is that only the most recent 5000 lines / 1500 rendered blocks are
visible in the tab — which is the intended "tail" behavior, and full
history remains on the server.
## Model Used
- **Provider:** Anthropic, via the Claude Code CLI.
- **Model:** Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`).
- **Reasoning mode:** Extended thinking enabled.
- **Capabilities used:** tool use (shell execution, file editing),
sub-agent fan-out for the codebase memory sweep, and the Chrome DevTools
MCP for the diagnosis phase.

Fix agent detail URL after agent rename (#9340)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The agent detail page uses route references that can be based on an agent's URL key. > - Renaming an agent can change that URL key while the browser is still on the old route. > - After save or rollback, refetching the stale route reference can render an "Agent not found" state even though the agent still exists. > - This pull request redirects the detail page to the updated canonical route when the saved agent's route reference changes. > - The benefit is that agent renames keep users on the same configuration workflow without landing on a stale URL. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #1848 - Related public search performed for agent rename/not-found issues and PRs; no closer in-flight PR was found. - Bug context: after saving a renamed agent or rolling back to a revision with a different name-derived URL key, the agent detail page could continue using the old URL and show "Agent not found". ## What Changed - Added a small route-sync helper that compares the previous and updated agent route refs after mutations. - Redirects the agent detail page with `replace: true` when a save or rollback changes the canonical route ref. - Removes the stale detail-query cache entry so the old route reference is not refetched after a rename. ## Verification - Local outgoing patch scan for common secrets, private paths/emails, and internal issue/link references: no matches. - `corepack pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `corepack pnpm --dir ui run typecheck` - `corepack pnpm --dir ui exec vitest run src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts src/App.test.tsx` - `corepack pnpm check:token-gates` ## Risks - Low risk: the redirect only runs when the updated agent resolves to a different route ref than the current agent. - If a future mutation response omits both URL key and name, the existing route-ref fallback behavior still applies. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent via the local Codex adapter, with tool-assisted repository inspection, shell execution, and GitHub API use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): use prose editor for markdown agent instructions (#9332)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agent setup depends on instruction files that are readable and editable from the board UI > - The instructions tab already receives server-side metadata describing whether each file is Markdown > - The UI was deciding Markdown editor usage primarily from the file extension, which makes extensionless Markdown instruction files feel like raw code > - This pull request makes the instructions editor trust server Markdown metadata for existing files and keep extension fallback only for new unsaved files > - The benefit is that AGENTS-style prose instructions render and edit like prose while explicitly non-Markdown files still use the raw textarea ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #8201 - Refs #5652 - Refs #3427 - Refs #2068 - Related PRs: #2468, #2620 ## What Changed - Use server `markdown` metadata from instruction file details/summaries to choose the prose Markdown editor for existing instruction files. - Keep extension-based Markdown detection only for pending new files before server metadata exists. - Remove the monospace content styling from the Markdown editor path so prose instructions read like normal text. - Add focused tests for extensionless Markdown files, new `.md` files, and `.md` files explicitly marked non-Markdown by the server. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.instructions.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` ## Risks - Low risk. The editor selection now depends on server metadata for existing files, so incorrect server metadata would choose the wrong editor. The fallback still preserves extension-based behavior for newly created unsaved files. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex coding agent, tool-enabled terminal workflow. Context window details were not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: repair dirty/foreign-branch execution worktrees (#9297)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Execution workspaces are the bridge between Paperclip's control plane and a local agent's checked-out repository state. > - When a workspace is restored after a failed or interrupted run, the recorded branch can disagree with the branch currently checked out on disk. > - A clean branch mismatch can be reconciled safely, but a dirty mismatch needs a lossless path that does not discard uncommitted agent work. > - This pull request adds a quarantine-and-restore path that saves dirty work to a rescue branch, restores the recorded branch, and exposes the repair from the board UI and run page. > - The benefit is that operators can recover wedged execution workspaces without losing work or moving another live branch unexpectedly. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this workspace-recovery failure, so this PR includes the bug report inline. **What happened** A git worktree-backed execution workspace could become wedged when Paperclip expected one branch but found a different checked-out branch with dirty tracked or untracked files. The existing safe repair path refused the restore, leaving the source task blocked with no lossless one-click recovery path. **Expected behavior** Paperclip should preserve dirty work before restoring the recorded workspace branch. If another live workspace claims the checked-out branch, or an attached runtime service is active, the repair should refuse with clear operator-facing evidence instead of risking work loss or file contention. **Steps to reproduce** Create a git worktree execution workspace whose persisted branch name differs from the checked-out branch, add dirty tracked or untracked files in that worktree, then trigger workspace validation or use the branch reconcile endpoint. Before this change, the dirty mismatch remained blocked because Paperclip had no quarantine restore mode. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed on the pre-fix workspace-recovery implementation. Verified on this PR head after rebasing onto current `master`. **Deployment mode** Local trusted development/worktree deployments using git worktree execution workspaces and optional workspace runtime services. ## What Changed - Added dirty-worktree quarantine repair that creates a rescue branch, commits dirty tracked and untracked files there, restores the recorded branch, writes audit comments/activity, and preserves the live foreign branch ref. - Added `quarantine_restore` branch reconcile API support, recovery-action resolution, source-task wake behavior, execution-review preservation, claimant refusal, runtime-service refusal, and coverage for the non-transactional git ordering. - Added board UI controls for the repair action in the recovery card plus a compact failed-run workspace recovery surface that uses the same reconcile handlers. - Hardened Greptile follow-up cases by best-effort restoring the recorded branch after a mid-sequence rescue commit failure and by refusing quarantine restore while attached runtime services are active. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-service.test.ts -t "quarantine_restore"` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts -t "workspace dirty quarantine branch repair"` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-workspace-finalize-branch.test.ts -t "repairs clean unrecorded branch drift|adopts unrecorded forward branch drift"` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime-routes-authz.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - Earlier PR verification covered the route, service, heartbeat, UI component, and run-page recovery surfaces; Cutter posted public preview screenshots for the repair popover and run-page panel at https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9297#issuecomment-4926934211. - GitHub PR checks are green on `dcac76b05f4cf6e1ee16544c2831d83c7857e475`. - Greptile is 5/5 with zero annotations and no unresolved review threads on `dcac76b05f4cf6e1ee16544c2831d83c7857e475`. ## Risks - Moderate risk because the change intentionally runs git commands against local worktrees; the implementation refuses dirty repair when another claimant or active runtime service is detected and records rescue refs for auditability. - Compatibility / release-note callout for self-hosted operators: existing instances that left `enableWorkspaceBranchReconcileForward` unset now get automatic forward branch reconciliation during heartbeat workspace recovery. Operators who want the previous advisory-only behavior can set `experimental.enableWorkspaceBranchReconcileForward` to `false`; dirty quarantine repair can likewise be disabled with `experimental.enableWorkspaceDirtyQuarantineRepair: false`. - If the git rescue succeeds but a later database write fails, the worktree may already be restored while the recovery action remains open; this ordering is documented in code because git side effects cannot participate in the database transaction. - UI risk is limited to the workspace recovery surfaces and covered by component tests plus the existing Cutter visual preview. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, with repository tool use, shell execution, and local test execution. Earlier preserved commits on this branch also show Claude Code / Claude Opus 4.8 assistance in their commit metadata. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] Branch naming exception documented: this PR preserves the existing worktree branch requested for publication while keeping the PR title and body public-facing - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

[codex] Add built-in agents and Reflection Coach bundle (#9206)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators need first-party agent capabilities for repeatable company work, not just manually created one-off agents. > - Built-in agents need to behave like normal company-scoped agents while preserving approval gates, permissions, budgets, and audit trails. > - Reflection and coaching work also needs bundled instructions, skill content, and a routine so the feature can be installed and reset predictably. > - The API, database, UI, portability, and tests all need to agree on the built-in lifecycle from not provisioned through setup, approval, ready, paused, and reset. > - This pull request adds built-in agent provisioning and the Reflection Coach bundle end-to-end. > - The benefit is a safer first-party path for Paperclip-managed agents without bypassing the same governance model used for operator-created agents. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue was found for this exact built-in agent and Reflection Coach bundle work. Problem/motivation: - Paperclip did not have a first-party built-in agent lifecycle for product-owned agents. - Bundled agent resources such as default instructions, skills, and routines needed managed ownership and reset semantics. - Approval-gated companies needed built-in setup to preserve requested adapter, budget, manager, and permission state through board approval. - The board UI needed clear built-in badges, setup affordances, readiness state, and bundle status without exposing secrets. Proposed solution: - Add a company-scoped built-in agent registry, provisioning/reset/reconcile/status APIs, and Reflection Coach bundled resources. - Track bundled managed resources in the database with idempotent migration behavior. - Reuse existing agent approval, authorization, budget, and activity-log paths instead of creating a bypass. - Add UI setup, badges, gates, bundle panels, and route coverage for built-in agents. Duplicate search: - Searched GitHub PRs for `built-in agents Reflection Coach repo:paperclipai/paperclip`; only this PR was returned. - Searched GitHub issues for the same query; no public issues were returned. ## What Changed - Added built-in agent definitions, lifecycle state derivation, provisioning, reset, reconcile, status, and routine-control routes. - Added the `built_in_managed_resources` migration and schema exports for bundled instructions, skill, and routine ownership. - Added the Reflection Coach built-in bundle with default instructions, skill catalog content, routine template, default permissions, and managed-resource drift handling. - Added approval-aware provisioning behavior that preserves requested adapter config, budgets, manager assignment, and built-in permissions through hire approval. - Added authorization and mutation gates for built-in agent and skill changes, including consented Reflection Coach change paths. - Added UI surfaces for built-in agent setup, roster/detail badges, readiness gates, bundle status, routine controls, and route filtering. - Added company import/export and validator coverage for built-in managed resources and low-trust/red-team presets. - Addressed Greptile follow-ups for pending approval reconciliation, consent-gate error propagation, config-read authorization fallback, approval-path manager preservation, and non-model adapter provisioning. ## Verification Local verification: - `git diff --check public/master..HEAD` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed with all gates clean. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/ConfigureBuiltInAgentModal.test.tsx` passed: 1 file, 4 tests. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/EntityRow.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx ui/src/components/BuiltInAgentGate.test.tsx ui/src/components/ConfigureBuiltInAgentModal.test.tsx ui/src/components/BuiltInBundlePanel.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Routines.test.tsx` passed: 7 files, 64 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts src/__tests__/company-skills-routes.test.ts` passed: 3 files, 91 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after the rebase; `pnpm --filter ui typecheck` passed after the final UI review fix. Remote verification on latest head `1c61f693a4ec881d739022b0e75a8ca8bf8c2cd8`: - Merge state: `CLEAN`. - Greptile: `5/5`, zero unresolved Greptile threads. - PR check rollup: all checks successful, neutral, or skipped as expected. - Passing gates include Build, Typecheck + Release Registry, all server shards, all workspace shards, all serialized server suites, e2e, Canary Dry Run, policy, review, verify, Socket, Superagent, and Snyk. ## Risks - This adds a new managed-resource table and migration; the migration uses idempotent create/add/index guards and passed migration safety checks. - Built-in agent provisioning touches approval and authorization paths; tests cover pending approval preservation, stale retry rejection, consent gates, and config-read fallback behavior. - Reflection Coach creates managed instructions, skill, and routine resources; drift/reset behavior is covered by service tests and redacted API responses. - Non-model adapter setup now provisions a `needs_setup` built-in row before command/endpoint fields are complete; this matches the server lifecycle and is covered by the setup modal regression test. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5. Exact hosted model ID, context-window size, and reasoning-mode labels are not exposed in this runtime; tool use, shell execution, GitHub CLI/API access, and local code editing were enabled.

Skill Studio: three-pane skill IDE with sandboxed test runs (#9241)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Skills Manager gives operators a reusable skill layer, but iteration still required manual edits, ad hoc prompts, and indirect run inspection. > - Skill authors need a focused workflow for editing skill files, saving representative test inputs, and running those inputs through an agent without exposing harness tasks as normal company work. > - The backend therefore needs durable test inputs, reusable run templates, hidden harness issues, scoped run execution, retention metadata, and read-containment rules around hidden work. > - The frontend needs a three-pane Studio that keeps skill files, saved inputs/templates, and run output/history visible together while preserving the existing design system and token rules. > - This pull request ships that Skill Studio surface end to end: database migrations, shared contracts, server APIs/services, hidden harness execution behavior, UI routes/components, and focused tests. > - The benefit is faster and safer skill iteration, with inspectable outputs and fewer ways for internal harness work to leak into normal task lists, costs, or adjacent read APIs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. Feature request summary: - Problem: Skill authors need to edit and test company skills in one place instead of switching between the skill detail page, task creation, run output, and manual prompt history. - Proposed solution: Add a Skill Studio workbench with saved inputs, reusable templates, hidden sandboxed test runs, live run status, output inspection, run history, rerun/delete controls, and frontmatter-aware editing. - Expected users: Paperclip operators and agent-company maintainers who create, fork, import, and tune skills. - Related public PRs: Supersedes #9205, which was replaced so the public PR branch name follows contributor policy. - Duplicate search: searched public GitHub issues and PRs for "Skill Studio"; no other active public issue or PR directly covers this feature. ## What Changed - Added database migrations for Skill Studio test inputs, test runs, test run retention, and reusable run templates. - Added shared Skill Studio types, validators, route helpers, frontmatter utilities, and status handling. - Added server services and routes for saved inputs, test runs, templates, reruns, terminal-run deletion, hidden harness issue execution, and run-detail hydration. - Strengthened hidden-issue read containment across issue-adjacent routes and cost rollups used by skill test harness work. - Added the Skill Studio UI with skill file editing, frontmatter editing, saved inputs, templates, run creation/cancel/rerun/delete flows, output rendering, history, route support, and responsive pane behavior. - Added focused backend, shared, and UI tests for the new APIs, routing logic, editor/run behavior, hidden-issue containment, and migration safety. - Rebased onto current `master`, removed the generated lockfile diff from the PR, and verified no workflow files are changed. ## Verification - [x] `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - [x] `pnpm check:token-gates` - [x] `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/company-skills-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-skills-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-skill-test-runs-service.test.ts ui/src/lib/skill-studio.test.ts ui/src/pages/SkillStudio.test.tsx` — 5 files, 132 tests passed - [x] Greptile review on the latest PR head - [x] GitHub PR checks on the latest PR head ## Risks - Medium risk because this is a broad feature touching database schema, server orchestration, issue visibility, and a large UI surface. - Hidden harness issue containment is security-sensitive; this PR includes regression coverage for adjacent read paths and cost rollups. - The new migrations are additive and use idempotent guards where applicable, but deployed databases that previously tested draft migration numbers should still be checked carefully. - The UI depends on a new resizable panels package in `ui/package.json`; the lockfile is intentionally left to repository automation. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent with shell, git, and GitHub CLI tool use. Earlier feature commits include assistance from other Paperclip coding agents; this PR preparation, rebase, cleanup commit, and PR body were completed by OpenAI Codex in a Paperclip worktree.
