feat(plugins): include managed skills for selected environments (#17774)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their execution environments. > - Plugins can vendor company skills and provide environments. > - Environment tools need their instructions before the provider starts. > - Persistent computers also need those skills before any run begins. > - This change adds environment requirements to normal skill selection and lifecycle synchronization. > - Plugin names prevent ambiguity, and required skills take delivery precedence without deleting company data. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** An environment can provide desktop tools while its agent receives no instructions for those tools. A first-run-only import also leaves idle computers without required skills. Same-name company skills can make provider discovery ambiguous. **Proposed solution** Let plugin environment drivers declare their managed `skillKeys`. Install missing requirements during lifecycle reconciliation or new-run preparation. Deliver updates through the durable runtime event journal. Give managed imports stable plugin names and report shadowed assignments. **Alternatives considered** ROM links do not make a skill a normal Paperclip selection. Polling duplicates the existing lifecycle delivery queue. Replacing a same-name company record would destroy independent data and assignments. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Plugin system and Skills Manager. The existing related-PR search found no duplicate contract. ## What Changed - Validate `environmentDrivers[].skillKeys` as unique references to the same plugin's managed skills. Require a ready, enabled plugin with `skills.managed` authority. - Resolve company-scoped skills before version capture. Preserve explicit pins, company edits, and saved recovery selections. Serialize concurrent first installs. - Allow lifecycle callers to request missing-skill installation through `agents.getRuntime`. Ordinary task and recovery reads do not install new declarations. Pass task-selected environment IDs through the SDK. - Add SQL migration `0378_environment_skill_runtime_hooks`. Required skill edits, effective default changes, environment changes, and plugin requirement changes enqueue durable runtime events. Reuse lifecycle delivery and retries; add no polling. - Import managed defaults as `plugin-<short-plugin-id>-<skill-slug>`, including the SKILL.md name. Preserve canonical keys. Keep same-name company records separate without counter suffixes. - Required environment skills win delivery over same-name company assignments. Preserve saved assignments and library content. Record shadowed and winning keys in run warnings, run snapshots, and plugin runtime state. Removing the environment requirement restores the ordinary assignment. - Document the contract for `driver: "plugin"`. Other drivers and plugins without requirements keep existing behavior. Existing managed copies retain edits and names until reset. ## Verification - Latest targeted local checks: environment skills (5), managed skills (9), heartbeat execution configuration (27), and SDK worker RPC host (23): **65 tests passed** (including the targeted schema-drift check). Disposable PostgreSQL exercised the migration, first install before any run, concurrent lifecycle reads, implicit edit events, inherited defaults, rollback, plugin requirement changes, shadowing, preserved records, version capture, and recovery. - Review follow-up also verifies case-insensitive/runtime-name aliases, recovery of a task-mentioned shadowed skill, preserved quoted/multiline YAML, and zero runtime events for repeated local-folder settings writes. - Migration numbering and safety checks passed. Whitespace and secret/PII scans passed. - Earlier targeted manifest validation passed (43 tests). No validator behavior changed in this follow-up. - Broad tests, typecheck, build and end-to-end verification passed in [GitHub CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40387647219) for current head `ce57f2a4d`. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. The [commitperclip review check](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40387646208) also passed after restoring its required duplicate-search checkbox. - Earlier attempts found a SQL alias collision, an unparenthesized CASE expression, and fixture assumptions about bundled catalog rows and YAML quoting. These were corrected before the passing checks. The first broad CI run also exposed a schema-drift check that assumed every journal entry had a schema snapshot; it now reads the latest actual snapshot, so SQL-only migrations need no invented snapshot. A test callback replacement also affected an unrelated fixture; it was restored before the final passing execution-configuration suite. Sandbox runs could not start PostgreSQL; the reported database tests used local socket access. ## Risks - Apply migration 0378 before using the updated lifecycle contract. It adds trigger functions and event producers; it does not rewrite agent assignments or skill content. - Required environment skills take precedence over same-name assignments, including task-selected skills. Both library records remain. Run warnings identify omissions. - Company edits are preserved. Plugin upgrades do not reset installed content or rename existing copies. Explicit reset adopts current defaults. - Namespaced library slugs can be shared by distinct canonical records. Callers must use IDs or canonical keys when a slug is ambiguous. - No live provider request or deployment was performed. The downstream plugin must be built against this Core revision. Persistent-home synchronization retains its existing edit-conflict and retry behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The exact model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this task context. ## Checklist - [x] Thinking path and issue description included - [x] Model and available capabilities recorded - [x] Roadmap and related PRs checked - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] Public references only; no internal issue IDs or instance URLs - [x] Targeted local tests pass; broad verification delegated to GitHub CI - [x] New behavior covered and documentation updated - [x] Current-head CI green and Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved comments --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Bound native OpenCode assigned-tool catalog projection (#17740)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native agents use assigned connection tools through a governed gateway. > - OpenCode received the gateway catalog directly, outside the bounded server tool projection. > - A large catalog can exceed a provider grammar compiler's capacity even when it fits the transport limits. > - Synthetic requests reproduced the Fireworks grammar timeout on the configured DeepSeek model. > - This pull request gives OpenCode two assigned-tool discovery and call schemas through the existing server relay. > - The gateway keeps the same grants, validation, approvals, revocation, and audit rules. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native OpenCode run could fail during provider grammar compilation before its first assigned-tool call. OpenCode advertised the full assigned gateway catalog. A synthetic catalog of 741 tool schemas reproduced `Grammar processing took too much time` on Fireworks through OpenRouter with `deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017`. The same model and backend accepted a compact two-tool discovery/call catalog. This reproduces the mechanism; it does not replay a historical private request. **Expected behavior** Assigned-tool discovery must keep provider grammar size bounded. Every call must retain the run's original gateway binding and permissions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Give a native OpenCode run a large assigned connection catalog. 2. Use a provider that compiles tool schemas into a constrained output grammar. 3. Observe the full catalog in the provider tool surface before this change. 4. After this change, observe only `paperclip_search_assigned_tools` and `paperclip_call_assigned_tool` for assigned tools. Discover and call a permitted tool through its pinned alias. **Paperclip version or commit** Source checkout based on current `master`. **Deployment mode** Native local or sandbox execution with OpenCode 1.18.34. Related work: Refs #14258 (discovery paging), #16678 (local adapter MCP launch), and #17688 (gateway capability advertisement). This change covers native OpenCode catalog projection. ## What Changed - Route native OpenCode assigned tools through the existing server-owned authenticated relay. - Use bounded discovery/call schemas for OpenCode, including small catalogs. Preserve transport capacity checks. - Keep assigned gateway credentials on the controller. Ignore gateway and credential values in tool arguments. - Preserve exact declared MCP operation names through admission and driver dispatch. Resolve transport prefixes only against the closed catalog. Reject unknown or shortened names. - Refresh former OpenCode direct-catalog and shortened-name checkpoints. Keep the existing fingerprints for other providers. - Add local and remote wiring, catalog capacity, alias, scope, work-mode, approval, and revocation tests. - Allow the native test files to use a validated dedicated external test database when embedded PostgreSQL is unavailable. - Document the assigned-tool execution contract. - Bound OpenCode discovery pages to 32 KiB and large-schema chunks to 16K characters. Keep other harness budgets unchanged. - Test medium pages and escaped large schemas through the actual HTTP MCP bridge on the explicit Runner testing surface. ## Verification - Red before the catalog fix: OpenCode did not create the server relay, and forced compact delivery advertised 1 or 741 direct schemas. - Red before the alias repair: HTTP MCP changed declared operation names, and the driver sent `search_assigned_tools` instead of the authorized `paperclip_search_assigned_tools`. - Current repair tests: 112 OpenCode/proxy tests pass, plus one actual Rust/proxy/HTTP MCP regression. Two checkpoint regressions fail with the former scoped revision and pass with the new revision. Other providers keep their prior fingerprints. - The combined QA candidate with this exact PR head passes all 916 native tests and all 113 transport tests on supported Node 24.22. An earlier Node 26.4/macOS run passed the 113 assertions but had an uncaught networking error. That non-clean run remains recorded; its stack matches [the upstream Undici defect](https://github.com/nodejs/undici/issues/5544). No production workaround or error suppression was added. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `git diff --check` pass on `bc41ba72be2195eabeb0d7727227ee0cd02e8532`. The maps structural check passes. - The local `pnpm test:run` attempt stopped after host embedded PostgreSQL initialization failures. The relevant database suites pass with isolated PostgreSQL 18. All repository CI gates, including aggregate `ci / verify`, pass on the current head. - Synthetic live provider comparison: 741 invented schemas produced the exact Fireworks grammar timeout in 20.9 seconds. Two compact invented schemas produced a discovery call in 585 ms on the same model and backend. - The first hosted QA attempt exposed the alias failure described above. On the patched source, a real local Rust runner → proxy → OpenCode 1.18.34 → exact DeepSeek smoke completed discovery, one synthetic gateway read, and `paperclip_finish`, then emitted `turn/completed`. It used the production compact projection and unchanged Rust allowlist. - Two earlier local smoke attempts exposed missing terminal authority and completion-contract fields in the smoke harness. Those failures remain recorded. The corrected ordinary bindings produced the clean result. - Fresh Greptile: 5/5 on `bc41ba72be2195eabeb0d7727227ee0cd02e8532`, with no new actionable findings or unresolved threads. - Hosted QA publication and lifecycle acceptance remain pending. The separate deployed-agent `Paperclip Review` check is also pending; it follows a task that failed on the earlier deployed runtime. - Local OpenCode/OpenRouter acceptance at `bc41ba72`: 530 synthetic tools were authorized and installed. A simple model-ID reply completed in 17.3 seconds with no app calls. A discovery task completed in 37.6 seconds, used the search/call relay, made one upstream call, and returned the exact synthetic value. This is local source acceptance, not a staging sandbox timing comparison. - The large-result review finding has a failing-before/passing-after HTTP MCP regression. Five medium schemas now page without invalid JSON. A large schema with escaped text reconstructs exactly through bounded chunks. All 35 assigned-tool tests and the server typecheck pass after this follow-up. - Final head `d84ce4856a6e65a35ad5fb8b561492598b525f4e`: all CI gates pass. Greptile and Paperclip Review both rate the change 5/5. No review threads remain open. The final full build, server typecheck, and 35 assigned-tool tests pass locally. ## Risks - OpenCode uses discovery before it calls an assigned tool, including for small catalogs. This can add a model turn. - An existing OpenCode provider checkpoint rotates once because it retains the former tool declarations. Paperclip task history remains available. - The historical filtered catalog was not captured. The synthetic comparison proves the failure mechanism, not the exact cardinality of an earlier private request. - No model, provider route, permission, or automatic retry policy changes. ## Model Used The bounded-result follow-up also used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 family). The exact backend model ID and context-window size were not exposed for that session. It used reasoning, code execution, and tool use. OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` in Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and source inspection. The runtime does not expose the context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(chat): admit task Retry after GitHub reconnect (#17733)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their tasks. > - Task Retry must preserve saved input and enforce current access. > - A GitHub reconnect invalidates old runtime callbacks. > - Retry reused that old callback authority and rejected valid new intent. > - Retry also replayed an older failed request when a follow-up was already saved. > - This change admits a deliberate Retry under current authority and transfers saved input once. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16965, #17053 and #17317. These repairs preserve work and contain old executors. This change fixes the subsequent chat admission boundary. A search found no overlapping open reconnect/admission fix. **What happened?** Ordinary task Retry returned `chat_failed_run_retry_not_authorized` after the same GitHub App reconnected. The endpoint was healthy, but the saved request still carried its old runtime generation. A newer queued follow-up also made Retry reject the older failed request instead of continuing the follow-up. No successor was admitted. HTTP qualification found two related defects. Concurrent clicks could omit the canonical chat action from a response. Signed-in board dispatch also passed an incomplete task resource to the permission resolver, which rejected a permitted mutation. **Expected behavior** A deliberate Retry checks current authority for the same App, sender, repository, conversation and task. It continues saved input once. A later reconnect, changed App, revoked access or changed source prevents dispatch. Old runtime callbacks remain invalid. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Admit a GitHub request and record a failed native run. 2. Save a follow-up while execution is blocked. 3. Reconnect the same GitHub App. 4. Click ordinary task Retry. 5. Before this change, admission returns 409. Without reconnect, the newer input alone also causes 409. **Paperclip version or commit** Baseline source: `41c42895fa862c586ff841f8c50200d93ffc83a4`. **Deployment mode** Source checkout on macOS. Regressions use real PostgreSQL transactions and the assembled chat, HTTP route and heartbeat admission services. Provider boundaries are simulated. No hosted recovery is claimed. ## What Changed - Record the admitting App identity for new GitHub deliveries. Historical deliveries can use their original working-comment binding. Reauthorize deliberate Retry under a pinned current generation and credential-reference fingerprint. - Select the complete saved-input queue from the failed run's actual conversation before replaying the older failed batch. Keep exact-run Retry bounded while ordinary task Retry supports larger queues. Transfer its receipts with the dispatch transaction. Recover the same ownership after restart or a lost response. Release unadmitted input after a definitive rejection. - Preserve canonical chat action IDs across concurrent clicks. Supply current task status and assignment fields to board mutation checks. - Keep exact-run Retry, stale webhook, containment, source integrity, publication, pause and budget checks. Update recovery contracts and verification recipes. ## Verification - Red: all three new PostgreSQL regressions failed on unchanged production code. Reconnect failed at chat authorization. Newer input failed at the obsolete-source guard. The combined case also failed. - Green: 61 selected chat integration cases passed. These include 27 new cases and 34 existing cases for containment, retained-source recovery, exact batches and source revocation. - A further red/green PostgreSQL regression reproduces the 51-message overflow identified during review. All 51 messages reach one successor, including a later Retry of that successor. A separate 52-message consumed-batch regression also passes. - A competing conversation retains its own deferred message. Distinct automatic policy contexts are checked independently; revoking only the later policy blocks the whole unadmitted batch. Batch validation still rejects a later message with a changed App binding or deleted source. A real PostgreSQL query capture reduced the 51-message preparation from 1,103 calls to fewer than 180. - All 16 durable task Retry tests passed. - The real HTTP route returns 202 and admits one queued successor for concurrent deliveries. Fault injection covers rollback during input handoff, response loss after dispatch commit, and permission loss when resuming an existing durable wait. A wait only adopts input after current admission succeeds; a one-shot settlement marker keeps status projection read-only. A new deliberate Retry works after another reconnect or a failed successor. - Current-App, repository, sender, source edit/delete, reassignment, endpoint pause and board-permission controls passed. Historical deliveries remain unchanged. - Final-head CI: 55 checks passed, three expected skips. The unchanged minute-bucket rate-limit assertion passed locally against PostgreSQL and on its one CI rerun. Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - Workspace typecheck and full build passed. Map alignment, module boundaries, UI token gates and `git diff --check` passed. - Hosted task recovery and a live provider turn remain unverified. The local tests hold agent capacity to inspect admission without starting a model or publishing a GitHub response. ## Risks - A deliberate GitHub Retry can admit old saved input under current connection authority. It requires the same App binding and current access. It pins that admission; it does not rewrite the historical delivery or make stale callbacks valid. - The durable chat queue has an optional admission callback. It transfers input only when the transaction contains a valid queued execution or saved wait. Other chat consumers have no callback and retain their behavior. - No migration, Cloud dependency, deployment, configuration change or workspace cleanup is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, source inspection, code execution and GitHub tools. The exact serving variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(tasks): show recent conversation before historical activity (#17593)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - A task page must show the instruction and current conversation
quickly.
> - The current page waits for related task data and historical run
transcripts.
> - These reads grow with task history, even when the reader only needs
the latest answer.
> - This pull request gives cold opens a small initial view and loads
older history on demand.
> - Messages and runs observed while the page stays open remain visible.
> - The benefit is a readable task before historical diagnostics finish
loading.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Related: #14667 and #16229. The first changes the reveal gate and scroll
anchors. The second adds general history pagination. This PR adds a core
task read and a folded recent-conversation view. It preserves the
default full-read API contracts. The shared files will need coordination
if either related PR lands first.
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
Cold opening an ordinary task with a long conversation or large run
logs.
**Current behavior**
Task enrichment and historical transcripts delay the readable
conversation. A cold open can fetch several megabytes of tool activity
before revealing saved messages.
**Proposed behavior**
Show the task instruction, recent saved replies, latest human input, and
the latest run's conversation data first. Fetch older messages and full
run activity when the reader chooses **More messages**. Retain new
messages while the page stays open.
## What Changed
- Add an authorized core issue view that skips related enrichment. Keep
enrichment on the existing detail read. Share task mutation, rollback
and invalidation updates with the core cache.
- Add a bounded recent-comment read. Preserve the first human
instruction when no description exists, including legacy rows with a
NULL author type. Keep company and task access checks and comment
redaction.
- Add optional recent activity and run-summary views. Fetch original
input receipts for visible comments separately so delivered messages
stay out of the queue. Reconcile watched unfinished runs after a
reconnect beyond the preview window, removing deleted runs after
reconciliation.
- Filter the latest native run's initial events to assistant messages,
request lifecycles and terminal results. Full event reads remain
available on expansion. Legacy fallback reads use a small tail extended
to the first complete record. HTTP cancellation aborts the storage read.
- Retain observed messages across cursor catch-up and new runs. Apply
local cancellation and deletion to both caches and their task aliases.
Refetch locally seeded history pages on expansion. Preserve expansion
across identifier and UUID links. Keep deep links, classic tasks and
Agent Chat on their existing full-history path.
- Update API documentation, design guidance, capability maps and
regression coverage.
## Verification
- Final acceptance on `9ea0b15ae44d9f6d2c9a9f824b4835f299f92979`: all CI
gates passed, including server/UI tests, all eight browser shards,
runner checks, full typecheck and build. [Final CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40326990328).
GitHub reports 55 successful checks, two intentionally skipped checks,
and one neutral Paperclip Review check described below. No checks are
pending or failed; Greptile is 5/5 and no review threads remain open.
- October 26 merge update: merged current `master`. The only conflict
was in task-page imports; both the compact-history hook and the new
live-update hooks remain. All CI tests and build jobs passed on
`044fd6733d`. Fresh review found canceled-comment cache drift, legacy
human-comment filtering, send-then-expand truncation, and partial legacy
log records. These defects were fixed in `af3d66a5bd`.
- Review-fix verification: 470 tests pass across ten affected suites,
including all six PostgreSQL cold-open tests without a helper override.
Cancellation/delete and send-then-expand regression tests failed before
the fixes and pass afterward. Coverage includes task identifier/UUID
reopen, stale in-flight reads, legacy NULL author types, local-file and
object-storage tails cut inside UTF-8 text, route forwarding, and
request cancellation. Full workspace typecheck and production build,
token gates, map validation and diff checks pass.
- Follow-up review found that a failed expanded legacy read lost its
record-alignment state on retry. `9ea0b15ae4` commits the expanded
window only after a successful read. The new regression fails before the
fix and passes afterward; all 19 transcript tests, UI typecheck, UI
build and token gates pass. Greptile reviewed this commit at 5/5 with no
actionable findings, and all review threads are resolved.
- The final Paperclip Review check ended neutral because its execution
did not complete; no passing Paperclip assessment is claimed. Its
earlier four concrete findings were fixed and regression-tested.
Greptile and the security scans completed successfully on the final
commit.
- The preceding `af3d66a5bd` CI run was canceled when superseded by the
retry fix. Its server shard 11 check briefly reported failure, but the
job API records cancellation and its test step passed all 1,750 tests.
This superseded run is not used as final CI acceptance.
- 549 focused tests pass on the final implementation across nine task
UI, activity-route, OpenAPI and PostgreSQL suites. These cover pending
history, desktop/mobile visibility, expansion, retained runs, message
bursts, cancellation recovery and queued-comment removal in both views.
- Legacy expansion keeps the latest answer visible while fetching and
deduplicating older output.
- Five PostgreSQL tests pass for core access denial, recent comments,
missing-description instructions, event paging and bounded activity/run
reads. macOS could not start another PostgreSQL cluster because it
exhausted its semaphore limit. These tests used a separate disposable
database on an existing local server through a temporary test setup
override. The helper was restored afterward.
- Full workspace typecheck and build pass with the final state fixes, as
do token gates and capability-map validation.
- Token gates, capability-map validation and `git diff --check` pass.
- Browser proof used a disposable task with 80 comments and six large
run histories. The cold view showed the instruction and recent exchange.
**More messages** revealed older comments. Navigation away and back
preserved expansion.
- Local HTTP sample: core 50 ms, recent comments 24 ms, recent run
summaries 17 ms. The latest native conversation response was 839 JSON
characters / 8 ms; its full event response was 1,099,005 / 86 ms.
Browser content paint was 1.34 seconds with development assets cached.
These are local observations, not staging latency claims.
- The first CI run passed every job except four board-send browser cases
and the review threshold. Those browser fixtures only mocked the old
comments endpoint; they now serve both recent and full reads, retaining
all message and attachment assertions. Both initial review findings were
fixed with regression tests. The next CI run passed every job. The
deeper review identified core-cache mutation, older delivery receipt and
retained run-status gaps; those are now fixed with regression coverage.
Final review is 5/5 with zero unresolved findings. Final-head CI
initially failed one unchanged runner shutdown test
(`runnerd-codex-transport.test.ts`, timeout-attachment case) with
`NativeSessionCloseUnrecoverableError`; all other CI jobs passed. The
same runner code passed on

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Low-trust agents may read only the projects in their allowed scope. > - Workspace setup correctly stops a task outside that scope. > - The task previously showed a generic failure, and agent settings did not offer an additive repair. > - This pull request explains the denial and lets authorized operators add projects while preserving other restrictions. > - The saved task then offers an explicit retry. Saving access does not start work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A project access denial appeared as an ordinary failed attempt. Operators could not add a second allowed project from agent settings. **Expected behavior** The task should explain the denied access and link to a working permission editor. The editor should preserve existing scope and restrictions, enforce operator authority, and retain drafts after a failed save. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Assign a low-trust agent to a task whose project is outside its allowed projects. 2. Let workspace setup deny project access. 3. Open the task, follow Manage project access, add the project, save, reload, and return to the task. 4. Confirm that the saved message remains and Retry task is a separate action. ## What Changed - Record a typed, non-retryable project denial before provider dispatch. Project denials do not enter automatic continuation or provider comment policy. - Project current and historical setup denials into a safe task notice. Keep unrelated failures, prior assignees, and approval/pause/budget gates separate. Recheck current project authority, including standard trust and root-issue grants. Accepted retries keep their working state. - Add board-only project-access reads and additive saves under the agent row lock. Enforce company scope, agent-management authority, pending-approval restrictions, and an audit record for new additions. - Add the production notice and searchable multi-project editor, including read-only, saving, cancellation, and failed-save states. Preserve the return-to-task query through canonical agent redirects. - Register board-only project-access routes in OpenAPI with a strict request schema. - Add production Storybook examples and API/persistence/concurrency regressions. Retain the approved design snapshot and update the behavior maps and implementation contract. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs`. - Passed: 11 permission/projection tests and 30 run-completion tests against an isolated PostgreSQL database. These cover historical failures, concurrent additions, idempotent audit, preserved restrictions, foreign projects, read-only users, agent self-grants, and no automatic wakeup. - Passed: all 27 OpenAPI route tests, including route coverage and the new board-only request/response contract. - Browser: the real app displayed a historical denial; Manage project access opened the editor; saving retained the original project and survived reload; Return to task showed the ready notice. Saving created one audit event and zero runs. Explicit Retry returned 202 and reached the separate sandbox requirement, which remained enforced. No external provider was used. - All five production Storybook interaction checks pass: blocked task, save, cancellation, failed-save recovery, and read-only settings. These use fixture callbacks; durable authorization is covered separately above. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted locally but stopped after repeated embedded PostgreSQL startup failures caused by macOS semaphore exhaustion. Full-suite CI is required before merge. The separate UI suite passed all 9,095 tests. The 41 focused server regressions also passed after rebasing onto the latest master. A further 26 recovery-classification tests pass, including a red-to-green regression for automatic continuation after a project denial. ## Risks - No schema migration. The new endpoint only adds same-company project IDs and preserves the rest of the stored policy. - The historical notice recognizes one exact setup denial message. It does not display arbitrary run errors or disclose a different source project's identity. - The retry still passes all current admission and isolation checks. The notice does not promise that other execution requirements are satisfied. - Related open work: #13309 covers inherited secret restrictions; #11234 covers the broader repository catalog. This change does not replace either policy surface. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code execution and browser tools. Reclaim finished isolated task directories with restore points (#17472)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents do task work in execution workspaces on the instance disk
> - A task without a project repository runs in a plain (non-Git) task
directory under `<instance>/isolated-workspaces/<company>/<issue>/`
> - Nothing removes these directories after the work is done, so the
disk fills up
> - The directories can hold the only copy of agent work, so plain
deletion is not safe
> - This pull request saves each finished task directory in an encrypted
restore point, removes it, and restores it when the work reopens. It
also removes orphaned directories after a grace period
> - The benefit is that finished task directories stop using disk, and
no agent work is lost silently
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
On one instance, `instances/<id>/isolated-workspaces/` held 251 task
directories and 12 GB, and it grew every day. 61 directories belonged to
open workspace rows whose issues closed more than 7 days before (3.9
GB). 12 belonged to issues closed 3 to 7 days before (0.7 GB). 4.0 GB
were directories with no open workspace row (the row was archived or
missing).
The cause has two parts:
1. The terminal workspace reaper archives a workspace only when it
proves delivery through Git (a merged pull request or a merged branch).
A task directory is not a Git checkout, so the Git status inspection
fails and the reaper always skips the row as "undelivered". Git cache
expiration handles only `git_worktree` workspaces.
2. When a person archives such a workspace by hand, artifact cleanup
removes a `local_fs` directory only when `metadata.createdByRuntime` is
true. Task directory rows never set it, so the directory stays and the
row becomes `cleanup_failed`.
**Expected behavior**
Paperclip reclaims the task directories of finished work by itself. It
must not lose files that only exist in those directories.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Run an agent on an issue without a project repository (for example a
low-trust sandbox task, or an issue with no project), so it works in
`isolated-workspaces/<company>/<issue>/`.
2. Let the agent write files there, then mark the issue `done`.
3. Wait any number of days. The directory and its workspace row stay.
The reaper logs the row as skipped (undelivered).
4. Archive the workspace by hand. The directory still stays.

fix(heartbeat): avoid large run reads during deferred-message recovery (#17460)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their tasks. > - Deferred messages must survive restarts and execution cleanup. > - Periodic recovery checks the latest run before it attempts release. > - That check and two release checks load large execution records. > - These checks use only admission evidence and completion identity. > - This change selects those fields while keeping the release policy and fresh reads. > - Full execution records remain available for execution and detail reads. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Deferred-message recovery repeatedly transfers stored context, Runner profiles, and output excerpts to make small admission and release decisions. **Expected behavior** Select the fields each decision consumes. Preserve queued messages, current admission checks, cleanup ownership, and fresh completion reads. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Save a terminal run with large context, profile, and output fields. 2. Leave an accepted message deferred after the issue lock is released. 3. Call `resumeQueuedRuns` and follow execution release. 4. Observe full-row reads before the admission decision. **Paperclip version or commit** Baseline: `410e5c6eedb`. Related read optimization: Refs #17405. Searched open and closed PRs for run projections and stranded-queue reads. Searched open issues for database transfer. No matching fix was found. **Deployment mode** External PostgreSQL. The regression tests use disposable real PostgreSQL. ## What Changed - Select seven admission fields for the stranded queue's latest-run lookup. - Select authentication classification evidence before execution release. - Read completion status and typed issue identifiers after post-commit effects. - Keep company scoping on both release reads. - Add large-payload and fresh-state regressions. Document the read contract. ## Verification - Focused PostgreSQL tests: 68 passed across queue, run control, and the new release-read suite. - Release reads return less than 2 KiB with three large synthetic execution fields. - Queue recovery passes less than 512 bytes to release, retaining the full stored message. - Coverage includes legacy/native owners, paused recipients, live successors, authentication repair, and fresh completion identity after post-commit effects. - Root recursive typecheck and full build pass. The full local stable suite remains in progress; no local full-suite pass is claimed. - All current-head CI checks pass on `c819fbb6b46bd5480a197407f06e02f245667792`. Greptile: **5/5, medium impact**, zero comments and zero unresolved threads on that head. - The first focused attempt found a syntax error in the new test; it was corrected before the 68-test passing run. A redundant standalone compiler was stopped while the required recursive check continued. - Hosted impact is not measured yet. Staging verification follows merge. ## Risks The projection must retain all admission evidence and preserve JSON types. The release policy still owns transactions, locks, cleanup, and promotion. There is no schema migration, polling change, message deletion, or API change. Configuration repair evidence is read directly, including when unrelated result output is large. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with source inspection, code execution, and GitHub tools. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: stop idle environment cleanup polling (#17145)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent environments can leave pending teardown or unverified provider resources. > - Recovery must preserve those resources until ownership and workspace safety allow cleanup. > - Empty maintenance scans keep an idle instance and its database active. > - The existing rows, transaction signals, and scheduler can represent the actual recovery obligation. > - This pull request schedules pending cleanup and historical verification only while work remains. > - An empty or fully verified instance stops these scans without losing cleanup recovery. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The server scanned pending environment cleanup on its maintenance tick. The run reaper also scanned it even when it recovered no runs or active leases. Historical resource verification scanned every five minutes, including when all history already had valid cleanup proof. **What did you expect?** Writes should wake cleanup. Pending rows, deferred orphan buffers, and unverified history should retain recovery deadlines. When none remain, these workers should make no periodic database or provider calls. **Steps to reproduce** Start a configured instance with no pending leases and fully verified history. Leave it idle. Observe repeated pending-cleanup and historical-verification reads from the maintenance paths. Related: #17106 supplies the preceding login-cleanup migration. #13523 improves lease-reaper query indexes. #16809 addresses reusable-sandbox recovery authority. This PR keeps those authority checks in their existing services. ## What Changed - Register two workers with the existing delivery coordinator and shared scheduler. Remove their unconditional maintenance-tick calls. Run the reaper's inline pending cleanup only after it recovers actual work. - Add commit-aware signals to the audited lease and custom-image writers. Existing transactions notify directly; other writers use one small transaction helper. No tables or migrations are added. - Derive pending cleanup deadlines from the existing row backoff and retry or claim metadata. Retain a historical retry only while an unverified candidate exists. - Register unwritten orphan buffers across runtimes that share the database handle. Buffer registration wakes recovery without a database connection. Load the existing spool at startup and retry failed or capacity-limited loads while needed. - Isolate spool failures per runtime. Attempt all buffers and persisted pending rows, then retain a retry for any failed spool. - Document producer coverage, idle behavior, and remaining blockers. Update the sleep inventory. - Repair the inherited CSS-recovery E2E test: the current build no longer emits task-page CSS. Exercise the actual lazy environment stylesheet, preserving real network failure, recovery, and bounded reload assertions. ## Verification October 24 integration update: merged current master and resolved the runtime/spool conflicts. Preserve serialized ingestion of records appended after startup. Plugin replacement failures now register deferred recovery with an idle hold; concurrent callers share one persistence attempt. The producer audit includes this new writer. - Focused cleanup selection: 270 tests now pass across five suites. The initial run lacked a built plugin SDK and executed no tests; building the SDK fixed setup. The new concurrent-flush assertion then reproduced duplicate rows; a single-flight guard fixed it and all 18 plugin integration tests passed on rerun. - Server typecheck passed. After review fixes, all 211 tests across the cleanup worker, real orphan spool, environment runtime, and plugin integration suites passed. These overlap the earlier focused selection. The rate-limit test initially expected a write after twenty idle minutes to wait; corrected it to assert that subsequent writes cannot accelerate the five-minute cadence. - Review fixes preserve retries for unreadable spool directories/records, keep historical provider checks off the startup wait while joining them at shutdown, and restore their independent five-minute minimum spacing. The complete [CI matrix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40108905033) passed on final commit `79ae1589c3c7b924db4bedb337d0c7ed3d95020b`, including all E2E shards, server/workspace tests, runner checks, typecheck, build/public-install verification, and security checks. - CI found a stale E2E asset matcher: `issue-detail-*.css` is no longer emitted. Both corrected browser tests passed against a fresh production UI build and disposable local instance. Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 on that same final commit, with all review threads resolved. Previous implementation verification: - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - New PostgreSQL worker suite: 12 tests passed. Covers quiet configured state, verified history, writes, outer commit and rollback, retry deadlines, restart, drain, deferred orphan buffers, spool failure, pagination, provider uncertainty, shutdown, and the idle run-reaper path. - Worker and environment runtime suites after review fix: 183 tests passed. A new assertion reproduced buffer starvation before the fix. Updated transaction fault injection and isolated simulated-instance database handles. Server typecheck also passed after the fix. - Run-recovery suites: 58 tests passed. Pending-cleanup suite: 38 tests passed after updating the logging fixture to seed real orphan recovery; an idle reaper no longer invokes cleanup. - Stop and workspace-recovery integration selection: 268 tests passed; two live-provider tests skipped by their environment gate. This overlaps the worker suite and is not an additional unique-test count. - Started the full local `pnpm test:run`, then stopped that older duplicate run after CI found the fixture mismatch. The corrected 38-test suite passed locally. The full sharded [CI matrix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39678174479) passed on final commit `fc0ff3c4554ca4190a8b0b81ec06ef7065b8ad2c`, including build, typecheck, runner, server, workspace, and E2E checks. This is not a claim that the local full run completed. ## Risks - Missing a future producer signal could delay discovery until restart. The producer audit is documented in `doc/idle-environment-cleanup.md`. Independent SQL writers and another server process are outside the existing process-local notification contract. - Historical candidates blocked by ownership or provider uncertainty keep a five-minute retry until they can be verified. Provider destruction, claim fencing, Stop retention, and workspace safety remain controlled by their existing services. - This does not remove orphan-active discovery or legacy shutdown settlement from run recovery. Active custom-image expiry is also still periodic. External wake coverage does not change. - Local tests prove these workers become quiet and recover. They do not establish deployed instance suspension or fleet cost savings. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code execution and reasoning. The exact serving model ID and context size were not exposed.

Share one clone across nested project repository checkouts (#17382)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - A project can attach extra repositories, and every task worktree
gets a managed checkout of each one under
`.paperclip-repositories/<name>`
> - Each of these nested checkouts is a full clone. The clone uses
`--dissociate`, so no objects are shared between tasks
> - On one instance, 44 task worktrees held nested checkouts of the same
repository: 24 GB of 27 GB of worktrees. Each new task added about 0.5
GB, and the disk filled twice in one day
> - Main task worktrees already avoid this, because they are git
worktrees of one managed project clone
> - This pull request makes nested checkouts git worktrees of one shared
clone per project and repository, and adapts expiration, restore points,
restore and cleanup to them without weaker safety checks
> - The benefit is that repository objects are stored once, and a new
task adds only its working files
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public issue exists. This is the in-PR bug report.
**What happened?**
Every task in a project with extra repositories got a full, independent
clone of each extra repository under `.paperclip-repositories/`. On one
instance this used 24 GB of 27 GB of task worktrees (16 GB of it `.git`
data) and filled the disk twice in one day.
**Expected behavior**
Nested checkouts of the same repository share one object store, like
main task worktrees share the managed project clone. Disk use per new
task is only its working files.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Create a project with a primary repository and a second repository
that has a repository URL and no local folder.
2. Run several tasks in isolated git worktrees in that project.
3. Look at `<task worktree>/.paperclip-repositories/<name>/.git`: each
one is a full directory with its own copy of every object.

Clear process identity when settled native runs stop (#17374)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Each heartbeat run stores the process identity of its runner in
`heartbeat_runs.process_pid`, `process_group_id` and
`process_started_at`
> - Only cancellations (`release_run_resources`), restart recovery and
heartbeat recovery cleared these fields
> - Failed native runs take the `schedule_retry` path, so they kept a
PID after the run finished, for weeks
> - Liveness checks for old runs then depend on PID-reuse defenses, and
code that reads a set PID as "running" is misled
> - This pull request releases the process identity of settled native
runs when the process is confirmed gone, and backfills old sandbox rows
> - The benefit is that a finished run no longer looks like it owns a
live process, while live, warm and retrying processes keep their
identity
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #17358. Bug report described in-PR (bug report template).
**What happened?**
On one instance, 16 of 23 old native workspace sync folders belonged to
failed or cancelled runs that finished more than a week earlier and
still had `process_pid` set. The PID is written when the run's process
starts (for remote targets it is the sandbox PID). The status arbiter
clears it only through `release_run_resources`, which only cancellations
emit. Failed native runs take `schedule_retry`, and other terminal paths
(finalization reconciler, restart recovery terminal failures, watchdog
timeouts) do not clear it either.
**Expected behavior**
When a run is terminal and its process is confirmed gone (or no longer
owned), the process identity is cleared. A process that may still be
alive keeps its identity.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Run a native task whose provider turn fails, so the arbiter decides
`run_failed_partial_evidence_preserved` with a `schedule_retry` effect.
2. Wait for the run to finish and the runner to exit.
3. Read the run row: `status = 'failed'` and `process_pid` /
`process_group_id` / `process_started_at` are still set.

perf: narrow runtime progress database reads (#17355)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Active runs publish workspace and provider progress. > - Each update must check the current run status before it publishes. > - This check fetched the full run, including prompts and runner configuration. > - This pull request reads only the four fields that progress publication uses. > - The benefit is less database transfer while each update still checks durable state. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #17348 narrows authorization reads. This PR applies a separate projection to runtime progress. GitHub searches for runtime progress and run-status read PRs found no duplicate. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The database read before a runtime progress update. **Current behavior** Each update calls `getRun`. This reads large run context and runner configuration even though progress publication only uses the run ID, company ID, agent ID, and status. **Proposed behavior** Use a fresh four-column read for each update. Keep the existing active-status check, event fields, error propagation, and late-progress suppression. **Reason and benefit** Transfer progress can emit many updates for one run. A small status check avoids repeatedly transferring payloads that it does not use. **Breaking changes** None. No API response, schema, scheduling, or cancellation policy changes. ## What Changed - Add `getRunStatus` to the run-state owner. The full reader remains available to consumers that need execution data. - Wire the narrow reader into the lifecycle progress check. Remove the unused context field from that check's input contract. - Cover the exact selected fields, missing runs, database errors, large stored payloads, terminal transitions, and the public heartbeat service wiring. Document the read boundary. ## Verification - Run-state and lifecycle suites: 44 tests passed before the additional public-service regression. - Lifecycle, public-service wiring, and native cancellation suites: 36 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - The [full PR workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40013092548) passed on `95bf496f689049812646b5ccddcdf2cca21efad0`. All 54 reported checks passed; two conditional checks were skipped. This includes test shards, browser checks, Runner verification, production bundle boot, and clean npm installation. - `GIT_CONFIG_COUNT=1 GIT_CONFIG_KEY_0=init.defaultBranch GIT_CONFIG_VALUE_0=master pnpm test:run`: an additional local all-in-one run is still in progress; no full-local-pass claim. The process-scoped Git default matches existing master-only fixtures and does not change user configuration. - The initial description check failed because the dedup-search checkbox was missing. Searches are complete and the template checkbox is now included. The rerun passed on the same source commit. - Greptile Apex: 5/5 on `95bf496f689049812646b5ccddcdf2cca21efad0`, no findings or review threads. - No hosted deployment or bill reduction is claimed. CI and Apex are complete; this PR is merge-ready. ## Risks - Low scope: the query selects fewer columns and preserves the existing status read on every progress callback. It adds no worker, cache, timer, or idle query. - A run can still finish after the status read and before publication, as it could before this change. This PR does not change that concurrency boundary. - No migration or operator configuration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 family). The runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context window. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites above; full suite is still running) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): deliver review-path repair instructions to agent prompts (#17353)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip keeps agent tasks moving through owned execution and durable waiting paths. > - A consumed review path gets one repair wake before board escalation. > - That wake records an instruction to save a new monitor or another real review path. > - The canonical wake builder omitted that instruction from the agent prompt. > - This pull request delivers it through the existing disposition-repair section. > - The repair limit and execution authority stay unchanged. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An agent opened a pull request and promised to watch CI and external review. It ended without scheduling a monitor. Its bounded review repair also ended without a maintained path, so the task became blocked for a board decision. The saved repair context contained the instruction, but the canonical wake payload and rendered prompt did not. **Expected behavior** The repair prompt tells the agent to save a one-shot monitor before promising another check. Both fresh and resumed sessions receive that instruction and the one-attempt limit. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a review-path recovery with `decideIssueReviewPathRecovery` for a task whose review path was consumed. 2. Pass its recorded context through `buildPaperclipWakePayload` and wake serialization. 3. Render a fresh or resumed prompt. Before this fix, it has the wake reason but no repair instruction. **Paperclip version or commit** Base: `9c442cf48e6`. Current head: `f38d65891c8d9f2b38eb76a8578e870debc2b1e6`. **Deployment mode** Observed on managed sandbox execution with the legacy Claude ACP adapter. The corrected canonical payload serves the shared adapter prompt path. Refs #15764 introduced the bounded exhausted-repair disposition. This change preserves that limit. Open monitor-retry work such as #17171 addresses an already scheduled check; this defect occurs before a check exists. Searches found no duplicate for this missing prompt field. ## What Changed - Build the review-path repair disposition in its owning recovery module, using the server instruction and fixed one-attempt bound. - Project it into the existing canonical `dispositionRepair` field. No new adapter field or execution protocol is added. - Ignore arbitrary replacement instructions and attempt-limit values. A pending repair keeps its instruction across a connection-pool retry that changes the wake reason. Ordinary wakes without the typed repair marker ignore raw instruction text. Existing legacy disposition repairs retain their values. - Add a regression across the real recovery decision, wake builder, serializer and fresh/resumed prompt selectors. Update execution guidance and the affected recovery maps. ## Verification - Verified red before the source fix: two regression cases failed because the instruction was absent; the sibling repair case passed. The same cases pass after the fix. - Passed 194 focused and safety tests across wake preparation, review recovery, adapter prompt handling, and database-backed liveness escalation. The connection-pool retry case also failed before its correction and passes after it. - Replayed the recorded incident wake through the fixed boundary. The old canonical prompt lacked its saved instruction. The corrected serialized prompt includes it with a 1/1 bound. This replay did not execute a provider turn or change the source task. Private evidence stays outside the repository. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` after the pool-retry correction. Passed `pnpm build` on final head `f38d65891c8d9f2b38eb76a8578e870debc2b1e6`. Map checks and `git diff --check` pass. - [Full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40005890857) passed on that head: 54 checks passed and two optional checks were skipped. This includes the full test shards, typecheck, build, and browser suites. The local `pnpm test:run` attempt was stopped after the CI test shards passed. No complete local full-suite pass is claimed. - [Apex review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17353#issuecomment-6372160694) is 5/5 on the final head, with no open findings. The first review found the pool-retry case. Its regression and correction are included. The branch has no merge conflicts. - Test setup first required the plugin SDK build, then an empty credential-history database boundary. Those setup errors are not the claimed red. The temporary recorded-wake probe was removed before final validation. - Hosted follow-up acceptance is not run. The source task remains blocked and needs a retry after rollout. This PR does not claim that prompt delivery itself schedules a monitor or that every model will follow the instruction. ## Risks - This fixes instruction delivery. The agent must still save a valid monitor or another waiting path. The existing bounded escalation remains if it does not. - The wake stays a normal-model repair. It does not become status-only recovery and can continue useful work. Existing ownership, approval, budget, pause, and monitor admission gates remain in place. - No schema, credential, telemetry, API, model, or retry-budget change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with diagnosis, code editing, shell execution and verification. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (194 focused and safety cases; full coverage passed in CI) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): deploy and configure Supabase and Vercel (#17217)
Add governed Supabase and Vercel deployment/configuration connectors with vaulted credentials, agent access policies, approvals, audit, and bounded provider operations. Deliver reviewed REST actions to native agents and guard Vercel preview intent on empty projects. Preserve secret-safe request identity and durable retry behavior. Verified by current-head CI, fresh Greptile 5/5 review, and real-agent deployment/configuration walkthroughs on disposable provider resources. Test resources and temporary provider tokens were removed after verification. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf: narrow run authorization reads (#17348)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage and observe AI agents at work. > - Live events and run history must enforce current task permissions. > - Some permission checks load the complete run record for each event or request. > - Run context, runner configuration, results, and output can make those records large. > - This pull request reads only the persisted fields each access check needs. > - The checks still read current permissions and fail closed. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #17251, #9155, and #16229. Those changes cover other run projections, recovery polls, and task history. This change covers live-event delivery, workspace-operation run checks, and event-list access. **What happened?** Live-event delivery loaded every run column for each subscribed viewer, although the permission helper used only the company, run scope, and task binding. Workspace-operation checks did the same. The run-event endpoint also loaded complete run records before returning separate event rows. Large contexts and runner configurations therefore increased database transfer for ordinary access checks. **Expected behavior** Read only the stored access binding. Keep company checks, permission freshness, deleted-task tombstones, and response bodies unchanged. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create an issue-bound run with large context, runner configuration, and output fields. 2. Subscribe an authorized viewer to company live events and publish run updates. 3. Read the run events and a linked workspace operation. 4. Inspect the run SELECT projections. The previous queries load fields that the access checks do not use. **Paperclip version or commit** The defect is present on the current master base, `62c78e56e53`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server with PostgreSQL. The defect is not adapter-specific. ## What Changed - Select only company, scope, and issue bindings for live-event and workspace-operation run authorization. - Add a four-field run-access read for event-list requests. Reuse those columns in the existing log-access projection. - Preserve per-delivery and per-request permission checks, company predicates, and event responses. - Add real PostgreSQL and WebSocket coverage with large run fixtures. Cover grant revocation, grant restoration, deleted tasks, missing and foreign-company runs, and failed reads. - Document the bounded access reads in the existing polling-load guide. ## Verification - Six focused suites pass: 40 tests. They cover the changed paths, run-state reads, run logs, disconnect retries, and native event replay. - The new WebSocket test uses the production delivery path and a real database. It verifies that the selected SQL omits large run fields while authorization changes take effect on the same open socket. - The event-route test preserves the returned event content and denies the next request after grant revocation. - Local recursive typecheck, full build, and module-boundary checks pass. [Exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39997370119) completed successfully, covering the full grouped unit suites, typecheck, build/runtime boot, and E2E shards. The separate serial local `pnpm test:run` is still running and is not claimed as completed. - A later CI shard failed an unchanged email test expecting exactly one task after permission grants. The unchanged-base test passes at normal speed; adding only a 2.2-second pause before granting access reproduces the extra tasks because previously denied deliveries become due for retry. No email code or assertions are changed in this PR. The original failure is retained. The single shard rerun passed: 92 suites and 1,489 tests passed, with one suite and two tests skipped by the existing gates. - CI initially found a route-test double missing the new access helper. The follow-up fixes that fixture and adds event reads to malformed-ID and missing/cross-company checks. All 122 tests across the four changed-path suites pass; a final rerun of the expanded route suite passes all 92 tests. - The first CI run also timed out in the signoff changes-requested handoff while waiting for a reviewer run after a cancelled execution blocker. The focused test passes locally on this source. The same focused test passes three times on unchanged master. Controller-lease cancellation messages appear on both versions. The original CI timeout is preserved as an intermittent, unreproduced failure; its exact cause remains unknown. The signoff shard passes in the final exact-head CI run. - Initial fresh-checkout tests could not start because workspace SDK output and native PostgreSQL library links were missing. Dependency builds and the package's native-link setup corrected those prerequisites. The subsequent focused run passed. Focused command: ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/live-events-run-read.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-privacy-routes.test.ts src/services/heartbeat/run-state.test.ts src/__tests__/native-observer-replay.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-log.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-privacy-disconnect-retry.test.ts ``` ## Risks - A missing access field could cause an incorrect allow or denial. Tests exercise current grants, revocation, company scope, and deleted-task bindings through the real consumers. - No successful permission decision is cached. Every delivery and request still checks current database state. - No schema, migration, polling interval, API response, or deployment configuration changes are included. - This reduces bytes for the affected reads. It does not establish a whole-account savings percentage. Hosted transfer measurements remain separate validation after staging deployment. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, a GPT-6 based coding agent, used repository tools, code execution, and database-backed tests. The session does not expose the exact backend model identifier or context-window size; those values are not guessed.

Separate plugin workspace completion from maintenance inspection (#17329)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Storage plugins own remote task workspaces. > - Run completion currently requests the same inspection used for storage cleanup. > - That inspection can fetch remote refs and scan files after the agent has finished. > - Completion needs retained workspace identity and durable writes, not permission to delete files. > - This change adds an optional completion operation and keeps maintenance inspection separate. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A successful plugin-backed run can fail during completion because the storage provider performs a slow remote-recoverability inspection. Dirty or unpublished output does not need a deletion-safety proof to remain valid task output. **Expected behavior** Completion verifies the assigned workspace and confirms durable writes through the provider. Cleanup still requires the existing full inspection. **Steps to reproduce** Run a task with plugin-owned storage whose inspection fetches remote refs. Let the agent finish, then observe completion waiting for the maintenance inspection. Related context: #16428 added finalization observability. The duplicate search found no existing PR for this provider contract. ## What Changed - Add optional `workspaceProvider.finalizationVersion: 1` and strict `finalize` / `finalized` schemas. - Pass original run and agent context through live completion and recovered completion. - Give the new operation a 30-second deadline and keep ownership checks and lifecycle serialization. - Retain the inspection fallback for providers without the capability. Keep maintenance inspection and removal unchanged. ## Verification - SDK build passed. - Targeted SDK and completion unit tests: 7 passed. - Added integration coverage for capability selection, legacy fallback, maintenance separation, and failure propagation. - Local integration setup timed out starting PostgreSQL; the integration suite passed in GitHub CI. - Full build/typecheck and broader tests passed in GitHub CI (55 successful checks, 2 skipped). Local checks remained targeted as requested. - Diff reviewed for secrets and operational identifiers. ## Risks The capability is opt-in. Providers must not advertise it until their completion implementation is available. An unavailable provider or failed durability barrier remains retryable. No schema or stored-binding migration is required. Test-file size exception: the provider integration suite grows from 973 to 1,002 lines. The 29-line case follows the same prepared binding through legacy completion, opted-in completion, and maintenance inspection using the existing single-connection database fixture. Keeping it there avoids a second embedded-Postgres lifecycle for one transition test. The completion helper unit tests are in a separate focused file. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 Codex, with reasoning and code/test tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(chat): resume task Retry after retained-source containment (#17317)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work through task and execution ownership. > - A task Retry must retain the user's request while the system verifies an old executor. > - Connected conversations also retain their external principal and accepted source batch. > - Chat Retry admission required containment before it could save a wait for that recovery. > - A saved chat receipt could also remain deferred after containment became available. > - This pull request lets the exact recovery-bound request wait and resume through its chat owner. > - Normal admission still checks containment, current access and policy before one successor starts. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An ordinary task Retry on a connected conversation failed with `failed_chat_retry_not_authorized` while its retained remote executor still needed verification. The new recovery generation existed, but the chat action failed before it could save a dispatch wait. This occurred after the repairs in #17267 were confirmed live. The local regression found a second gap. A processed chat action with a deferred wake was not reconsidered after containment. Re-entering normal admission also tried to insert its existing durable receipt again. A historical hold for the same failed run could also hide the current Retry's workspace strategy, so the request still waited after the old executor was contained. Preparation could then read that sibling instead of the recovery record that owned the fresh successor, losing the fresh-workspace decision. **Expected behavior** Save the exact authorized Retry while its matching recovery generation verifies the executor. Once containment is recorded, reconsider the same chat receipt through normal admission. Start one successor with the original source batch. Keep publication, principal, pause and budget checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Admit a GitHub or Telegram request and record a failed native run with a retained remote lease. 2. Leave the executor's termination unconfirmed and exhaust its prior recovery generation. 3. Use ordinary task Retry to create a new recovery generation. 4. Process the connected Retry. The old admission code fails instead of retaining a wait. 5. With a deferred receipt, record exact containment and reconcile again. The old dispatch path leaves it stranded. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced from `412914cfa78d5abefcc34d3eb8d4bb86e461caac`. The branch is rebased onto current master. **Deployment mode** Hosted tenant for the reported failure. Isolated local PostgreSQL and the assembled heartbeat/chat services for the regression. Refs #17267 and #16965. This change does not add a Cloud dependency or change the absence protocol. ## What Changed - Permit a saved admission wait only for the exact current task Retry and active source recovery generation. - Keep promotion and execution dependent on independent containment proof. - Bind a Retry to active automatic recovery without replacing its generation, attempt count or deadline. - Share the current exact Retry strategy across historical holds for the same run. Retain each hold's stop and effect checks. - Select the canonical recovery record that proves the committed fresh successor during workspace preparation. - Let task receipt reconciliation return the same deferred action to its chat owner. - Recheck current board and external authority, then update the existing wake atomically with its successor. - Preserve the exact chat source batch. Keep generic board-comment filtering unchanged. - Add GitHub and Telegram cases for waiting, containment, one successor, stale generations, source edits, endpoint pause and supersession. - Update recovery documentation and capability maps. ## Verification - Red: real PostgreSQL tests reproduced the admission rejection for GitHub and Telegram. Six active-recovery cases then failed on the generation-ID assumption. Two same-run historical-hold cases remained deferred after containment on the old strategy lookup. A preparation regression then returned no readiness when the historical hold was stored first. - Green: 73 selected chat integration tests and 394 continuation, task Retry, workspace recovery, recovery-state and workspace-preparation tests passed. The chat tests use the real chat admission and heartbeat queue. Unrelated capacity stays occupied so no real provider starts. They assert no executor before containment, one successor afterward, unchanged source leases while waiting, preserved recovery budgets, and denial after authority changes. A separate source hold still blocks work. Both sibling insertion orders pass through the committed-readiness lookup and real workspace preparation: the new directory has independent Git storage and files, and unpublished old work remains intact. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed after the review fixes. The source build passed on `f6660efa48e37a80cd9857217a537606de85b5c8`. - The local host reached its PostgreSQL semaphore limit. Successful runs used a test-only loader to reduce disposable cluster connection and worker limits. No repository database helper or application setting changed. - The full local `pnpm test:run` began before the final review edits, failed in its first server phase and was stopped after those failures. Later phases did not run. This is not a full local pass. The transient Retry-notice case passes after fixture isolation; the four Discord close-owned publication cases also pass in isolation. Other broad-run failure causes are not established. - Exact-head CI and security checks pass on `f6660efa48e37a80cd9857217a537606de85b5c8`; Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. Optional Paperclip Review completed neutral with a 5/5 static assessment of all 11 changed files and no findings; it did not run tests or hosted acceptance. All 57 current-head checks are terminal: 54 success, two skipped and the optional neutral review, with no failures or pending checks. - The real hosted workflow confirmed that the deployed absence repair recorded containment. A later ordinary UI Retry was accepted and saved a durable request, but it remains behind the historical source hold. The useful existing review remains unchanged. This follow-up is not deployed; a live successful successor and final task disposition remain unverified. No missing files are claimed recovered. ## Risks - The existing task reconciliation sweep can restage a deferred chat action. This reuses its receipt and generation; it does not grant new execution or publication authority. - Dispatch must keep the board Retry identity separate from the connected request's principal. The regression checks these bindings and preserves current chat authorization at each phase. - Historical holds reuse a strategy only from the locked same-run recovery that names the current Retry intent. A different run, malformed recovery record or independent source hold remains fenced. - Unknown executors without a matching active recovery still fail admission. Promotion and execution require containment even when admission saved a wait. - No schema or API shape changes. No credential changes, manual deployment or service restart. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository tools, code execution and browser verification. The exact served model variant and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: expire idle open issues' worktrees with restore points (#17271)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - #17248 and #17257 let git cache expiration remove a closed issue
tree's worktree after saving an encrypted restore point
> - Issues that stay open but go untouched for weeks still keep their
worktrees forever, so disks keep filling
> - This pull request expires those idle worktrees the same way, and has
the next run restore its workspace automatically
> - The benefit is bounded disk use for stalled open work, with nothing
lost when work resumes
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #17248, #17257. Bug report described in-PR (bug report template).
**What happened?**
With restore points enabled, expiration only considers worktrees whose
whole issue tree has been `done` or `cancelled` for a while. A worktree
whose issue stays `todo`, `in_progress`, `blocked` or `in_review` with
no activity for weeks is never removed.
**Expected behavior**
An open issue's worktree that has been idle long enough is saved to a
restore point and removed, and the next run on that issue gets it back
exactly.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Enable git cache expiration and restore points.
2. Leave an issue open with an isolated worktree and no activity for
weeks.
3. The worktree is never removed.

Support provider-owned fresh retry workspaces (#17252)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip coordinates AI agents and retains their work across failures. > - A retry can require a new workspace while preserving the failed attempt. > - Core rejects this recovery strategy for provider-owned storage. > - Providers should implement the required outcome using their own storage design. > - This pull request adds a semantic fresh-preparation contract and delegates recovery preparation. > - The benefit is that a supported provider can run a fresh retry without losing prior work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A retry that selects `fresh_isolated_workspace` fails with `fresh_workspace_storage_unsupported` for provider-owned storage. **Expected behavior** Core asks a capable provider to prepare new storage and attach verified recovery files. The failed workspace remains intact. **Steps to reproduce** Run a task in a task-capable plugin environment. Let the task fail without a verified workspace preservation receipt. Retry the task so Core selects a fresh attempt. **Paperclip version or commit** |

Support installed default project workspace providers (#17247)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Storage plugins already own project storage and task checkout preparation. > - Core only selected these plugins through an explicit project policy. > - Installation could therefore leave new and existing projects on incompatible Core preparation. > - This pull request adds one generic manifest declaration and one shared effective-policy resolver. > - Project configuration shows inheritance while durable workspace bindings retain their owners. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin contracts, project configuration, and execution workspace preparation. **Problem or motivation** An installed storage provider cannot become the company default. Projects without an explicit provider keep Core preparation, even when their execution environment cannot use a Core Git checkout. **Proposed solution** A provider declares supported `workspaceProvider.defaultForProjects` mode and strategy. Company-enabled installations supply inherited defaults. Explicit plugin selections and explicit Core/local (`storageProviderPluginId: null`) win. Conflicting defaults require an operator choice. The declaration and implementation contain no provider-specific identifiers. **Alternatives considered** Rewriting every project would lose the distinction between inheritance and overrides. Selecting by worker health would silently change storage on an outage. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing workspace and sandbox provider contracts. The roadmap has no duplicate default-provider implementation. Related public work includes #17243, which covers prepared execution directories rather than provider selection. ## What Changed - Add a validated generic default-provider declaration and document it in the SDK. - Resolve provider selection and Git defaults consistently in project responses, source selection, heartbeat source resolution, reservation, and preparation. - Keep stored policy separate from effective configuration. Add the normal project configuration selector for inheritance, explicit plugins, and Core/local. - Preserve existing local and plugin workspace ownership. Pin selection through preparation and keep provider failures visible. - Add database, API, manifest, heartbeat, and UI regressions. Update the verification maps. ## Verification - Targeted Vitest runs cover manifest validation, project defaults and API access, explicit overrides, existing ownership, new/imported task inheritance, heartbeat routing, source-free tasks, selection pinning during setup, and UI configuration. - Combined policy, provider integration, and heartbeat run: 58 tests pass; 60 unrelated cases excluded. After the final shared-provider fallback fix, all 47 policy tests pass, including shared and operator-mode regressions. - Server and UI TypeScript checks, SDK build, verification-map validation, credential-pattern scan, added-comment scan, and `git diff --check` pass. - A downstream integration uses this Core resolver and preparation service with a real storage hook and mocked remote infrastructure. A new Git project reaches the hook without a stored provider ID. - Standard Greptile and Apex both scored 5/5 on |

feat(cases): add reusable prompt workflows (#17114)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Cases keep facts, documents, and one primary task across agent handoffs. > - Each case currently needs its own procedure text. > - Agents need to reuse procedures and move cases between them without replacing the task. > - This change adds company workflow definitions with a name and Markdown prompt. > - Existing handoff and document transactions preserve authority, revisions, and recovery. > - Cases remain behind `experimental.enableCases`. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16959. Related proposal: #3951 uses task graphs and a visual editor. This change extends existing Cases with prompt definitions and keeps its current handoff model. **Problem or motivation** Agents cannot share a reusable procedure across cases or inspect a case's movement between procedures. **Proposed solution** Add name-and-prompt workflow definitions. Adopt a prompt into the primary task's revisioned workflow document through a handoff. Keep phases as free text. **Alternatives considered** Defer graphs, workflow versions, run entities, role schemas, authoring screens, and Spec Kit integration. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing Cases experiment and same-task review flow. It adds no work queue or new execution engine. The maintainer approved this scope in the implementation plan. ## What Changed - Add company-scoped definition storage, shared request schemas, REST routes, and four optional Cases tools. - Accept a workflow ID at kickoff. Agent handoffs can adopt, refresh, preserve, or detach a workflow. - Capture prompt text and the document base revision at acceptance. Apply workflow, phase, and document revision together after outgoing execution settles. - Hold conflicting document edits for recovery. Preserve cancellation, replay, and restart behavior. - Show current workflow names and captured transition names/phases in Work, history, and Audit. - Update instructions, API/tool contracts, capability maps, and the isolated workflow journey. - Pin bounded workflow prompt reads to a content fingerprint; continuation conflicts on edits and can restart safely. - Remove experimental Cases/workflow/Mermaid guidance from the always-on native prompt. Extract runtime-context prompt strings into a CODEOWNERS-protected constants file while preserving the public imports. - Refresh Copilot’s pinned source identity to v57, including the extracted prompt file and retaining historical identities. ## Verification Local checks: repository `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass on the prompt-extraction tree (`88222d45d8`). Full repository coverage previously completed through the supported isolated shard groups (1,082 general server suites, 161 serialized suites, and all three workspace groups). The earlier default serial run was interrupted and remains incomplete. The first sharded run retained the failures described below; targeted corrections and separate limited-concurrency reruns pass. All CI jobs, security checks, and the 5/5 Greptile review passed on `fc1bd79c28`. Fresh CI and review are pending for the prompt extraction in `88222d45d8`. Focused verification passes: real-database handoff recovery and reuse; 2,002 native-tool/API contract checks; 144 Runner catalog/discovery checks; 27 Runner context/coverage checks; 37 case/Audit UI checks; and Product E2E oracle calibration. Token gates, migration safety/numbering, module boundaries, capability maps, and generated tool/Storybook catalogs pass. The final route/context corrections pass 49 API/native-tool tests, 90 real-database handoff tests, and server typecheck; 142 Copilot installation/sidecar tests pass with the refreshed identity. Greptile’s first review found that successive prompt pages could mix definitions after an edit. The fix returns a content fingerprint, requires it for continuation, and rejects edits with 409. Strict live/catalog schemas pass (171 Runner checks). The 2,005 API/OpenAPI tests pass; the initial native regression caught compression’s weak ETag prefix, and all 23 native integration tests pass after handling it. The regression covers same-length edits and a four-byte restart window. No stored version fields or entities were added. The prompt extraction passes all 462 checks across six focused suites, including persisted-context recovery and provider transport. The first local transport attempt lacked the required debug Runner binaries (102 failures, retained); after building the normal prerequisites, all 283 tests in that suite pass without source or assertion changes. Existing saved snapshots retain their recorded prompt text, and new executions use core-only prompt v7. The extracted prompt source is now covered by both CODEOWNERS and Copilot’s source fingerprint. Live-provider evidence is separate from those simulated checks: the isolated API-key campaign `reusable-workflows-api-final-2026-10-21` passed with local code matching `a1d73b4652`. Four actual Codex API runs read the adopted task documents, moved one case A → B → A on the same task, completed normally, and passed all nine durable checks. Browser assertions verified the current workflow/phase, historical names/phases, five handoff records including terminal completion, and the completed original task. Cleanup passed. The local report remains under `tests/runner-e2e/results/reusable-workflows-api-final-2026-10-21/`; no credentials or screenshots are committed. CI initially caught an omitted route-inventory entry and a stale pinned instruction-source hash; both are corrected and separately verified. Local serialized coverage also recorded an unrelated environment-route socket disconnect and activity-route timeout; their separate 11-test and 17-test suites passed without code or timeout changes. An unchanged chunked-webhook check also passed its separate four-test rerun. The initial adapter/database workspace groups hit time and resource limits under default worker counts; complete reruns with `VITEST_MAX_WORKERS=2` pass, including all 55 database files and 211 tests. The UI/CLI groups passed 837 files and 9,442 tests in the original run. Original failures remain retained and are not regraded. Earlier failed live campaigns remain unchanged: subscription HTTP 429 before agent execution; an obsolete exact-four-row oracle that rejected the valid terminal fifth row; and a chat-marker expectation that did not account for the existing explicit-comment presentation policy. The final fixture requires terminal completion and places the marker in its authoritative comment. Positive/negative oracle tests and the fresh live campaign pass. ## Risks - The additive migration adds a table and nullable case/handoff fields. Existing rows keep null workflow metadata; no assignments are inferred. - Adoption can wait on an intervening task-document edit. Recovery must cancel the old intent and accept a new one after readback. - Shared definition edits affect future adoptions. Existing case copies keep their revisions. - The feature remains experimental. This PR does not merge or deploy the change. - Live acceptance covers native Codex before the prompt extraction; this cleanup has contract/transport verification rather than a new live-provider campaign. The refreshed Copilot identity has static compatibility evidence, not new live-provider qualification. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, configured model ID `gpt-6-astra`, xhigh reasoning. Used terminal execution, file editing, and tool calls. The active context-window size is not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve Stop authority and qualify complete recovery journeys (#17105)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage agents that do useful work. > - Users need complete tasks, clear questions, retained context, and dependable recovery. > - Separate run tests do not prove that the complete user experience works. > - Successful retries can hide earlier failures and missing evidence. > - This PR extends the existing Product E2E harness with three explicit journeys. > - It adds a qualification checkpoint over the full retained result pool. > - Independent artifacts, state, rendered conversations, and delivery receipts establish each outcome. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17088, #17089, and #17046. This PR repairs two Stop lifecycle defects and combines the qualification changes previously reviewed in #17095, #17090, and #17099. Daily operations remain with #17051. It adds no second scheduler or recovery engine. **What happened?** A completed run can still leave a user without useful output, an understandable question, or a working continuation. Existing isolated tests and best-attempt reports do not establish the combined behavior. **Expected behavior** A necessary question includes its explanation and resumes once after an answer. Stop prevents automatic continuation until the user resumes. Restart during finalization preserves the accepted provider result and delivers it once. Qualification requires independent evidence for six journeys on both agents through Slack and Paperclip. **Steps to reproduce** List the necessary-question, followup-stop-resume, and finalization-recovery suites using the documented selectors. Run one exact cell with the configured model and target. Supply a private qualification manifest to the existing report command to grade all retained attempts. Missing proof and incomplete coverage must fail. ## What Changed - Wake existing accounting in the same committed native Stop closure. A receipt that arrives before closure must still settle once; incomplete receipts remain held. - Require a later user message before native Stop can promote earlier saved input. Preserve those earlier messages for the authorized resumption. - Add explicit necessary-question cells. Verify the actual prompt and context, answer, one bound continuation, and the delivered document link and revision. - Add explicit follow-up, Stop, and later resumption cells. Verify a live owned provider turn, cancellation acknowledgement, at least five seconds without an automatic path, retained direction and workspace context, and an actual browser download. - Add explicit Daytona finalization-recovery cells. Stop the owned controller after public result acceptance and during workspace finalization. Require the original result, restored file hash, resumed operation, one provider turn, and one receipt-bound delivery. - Share the receipt-based delivery observer across both recovery journeys. Keep model prose separate from the authoritative delivered comment identity. - Add a 24-cell qualification checkpoint over every retained attempt. Require three fresh candidate passes per cell and later staging proof with exact source, runtime, model, settings, instructions, and independent evidence. - Reject absent or unsafe manifest evidence. Preserve failed attempts and incomplete observations in the normal reports. - Provide four explicit rotating daily selections. Refuse daily selection until all required live drivers exist. Keep scheduling and spending with the existing operations owner. - Document the exact selectors, evidence contract, limitations, and remaining staging work. ## Verification - Local Product E2E support: 3,554 passed with two existing skips; source prerequisites: 128 passed. E2E typecheck passes. The actual file-chip and Download-control browser regression passes. - Two real-database regressions fail before the production repair. The stopped coordinator leaves accounting asleep after a complete receipt; the saved queue can restart from pre-Stop input. The repaired settlement and cancellation cohort passes 66 checks. The complete 256-case continuation suite passes with stronger two-phase Stop expectations, and 66 native executor accounting/Stop safety cases pass. Server typecheck passes. - All required CI, repository build/typecheck/tests, and fresh Greptile 5/5 pass at the final head |

fix: repair the complete projectless repository setup chain (#17088)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage agents that do useful work. > - A projectless task can prepare an authorized repository in its retained workspace. > - Setup must hand work to a later run without user supervision. > - Real task attempts exposed gaps across admission, completion, and queue dispatch. > - A successful provider exit did not prove that the requested result was delivered. > - This PR repairs the existing lifecycle and checks the complete repository journey. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17047. This PR includes the preserved repairs from #17049, #17052, and #17082. **What happened?** A projectless native task could stop after requesting a repository. It could also continue through a timer or generic recovery path and lose its saved conversation lineage. The latest real Codex and Claude attempts delivered correct files, but the native continuation had been folded into the finishing predecessor. Both attempts remain failed measurements. **Expected behavior** Prepare the authorized repository, retain the original context, and dispatch one saved continuation after its predecessor finishes. Deliver the verified result in the originating conversation. Stop, current access, approval, and real blocker rules remain authoritative. **Steps to reproduce** Run the explicit automatic-repository suite for native Codex or Claude. Inspect the downloaded result, original context artifact, both committed run records, and continuation receipts. The suite uses one attempt and does not widen the default paid selection. ## What Changed - Resolve the retained local-board identity through current company membership and workspace authority. - Prepare required source dependencies before the isolated server imports native tool authority. - Explain the saved repository continuation in production completion tools. Correct only the exact pending-checkout blocker backed by a live receipt. Reject an unfinished response wait without a real response source. - Preserve the persisted task-session workspace source and its explicit absence of root repository context. Permit Git's exact no-repository result only for a validated plain task directory. Keep other Git errors and linked metadata strict. - Revalidate server-resolved same-agent continuation values against current ownership and the saved kind, summary, and key. Carry this shape through the internal bridge schema. Keep provider-facing schemas restrictive. - Preserve terminal result authority after a correlated successful controller response. Controller rejection creates no result authority. Bind the shared guidance and transport source in Copilot v55 and preserve historical identities. - Admit native status wakes with the existing no-coalescing contract. The existing deferred queue retains a distinct future dispatch instead of retagging the finishing run. - Recover deferred conversation lineage through the actual admitted dispatch. Accept a null outbox run binding only with matching decision, effect, dispatch actor, idempotency, task, company, agent, and requester evidence. Reject a conflicting nonnull binding. - Independently grade retained random context, actual checkout bytes and HEAD, accessible output, distinct continuation receipts, and admission order. ## Verification - Real database and Git regressions fail before their repairs. Prior focused cohorts cover local-board authority, optional repository waits, plain task directories, and first/reused workspace provenance. - The new valid decision/effect-backed assembled-heartbeat regression reproduces coalescing into its active predecessor before the queue repair. With the repair, it dispatches one successor after the predecessor finishes. Duplicate sweeps create no extra run. - The deferred-outbox conversation regression fails before its repair. The repaired test also rejects a conflicting predecessor binding. - The current queue, continuation, publication, cancellation, stale-admission, and domain cohort passes 344 checks across 11 suites. Server and Product E2E typechecks pass. The strengthened automatic-repository oracle passes 34 calibration checks. - Three omitted/null/resolved forms pass through the compiled Rust runner and controlled provider. The prior shared bridge cohort passes 492 TypeScript checks and 399 Rust core checks. Runner source identity, TypeScript, Rust formatting, and locked Rust typechecks pass. - Six real local development cells passed ordinary repository, conversion, and necessary-question journeys. Independent artifacts and rendered question/result evidence agree. They do not qualify staging or Slack. - Both latest automatic-repository attempts delivered correct files but failed the strict continuation check. They remain failures. A fresh replay of this queue repair is pending. - On the combined candidate `380047f4b923807a8c4f7ef6016e4fe130ab4a3a`, `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. Product E2E support passes 3,525 checks with two existing skips, plus 128 source checks. The complete local `pnpm test:run` is running and is not yet a pass. - The first replay selection failed catalog validation due to an operator profile-ID error. A second selection used the wrong default-model suite and was cancelled before any provider job existed. Both setup attempts remain recorded. The corrected campaign selects the recorded GPT-6.1 and Opus 5.5 models plus the local Stop/resume journey. - Exact-head CI, review, and deployment acceptance remain pending. GitHub reports delayed PR updates and webhook delivery; the current head and checks have now propagated. No earlier-head green badge establishes acceptance of this commit. ## Risks This changes several boundaries of repository setup. Full product and deployment acceptance remain required. The queue uses the existing deferred admission and delivery contracts. Batch deduplication remains in place. The provenance repair requires the actual bound dispatch and does not grant publication authority. Current authorization is still checked at publication. No accepted provider result is rewritten, and completed provider work is not rerun to repair persistence or delivery. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools and code execution. The runtime does not expose its exact deployment ID or context-window size. Those values are not inferred. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <paperclip@paperclip.ing> |

Connect native Runner admission to plugin-owned workspaces (#16978)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for AI agents. > - A plugin can own an execution environment and its files. > - #17029 supplies the task driver and bounded setup verification. > - Heartbeat still prepares workspace files on Core and expects a shell transport. > - This PR gives the selected plugin ownership of workspace preparation and native task execution. > - Core keeps admission, tool authority, and recovery checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Heartbeat workspace admission and native Runner execution. **Problem or motivation** A task-only plugin cannot run through Core filesystem staging or shell execution. Native admission and recovery must use the same lease and workspace ownership. **Proposed solution** Use the task driver from #17029. Resolve workspace and project identities without Core file operations. Connect native dispatch and restart recovery to that driver. **Alternatives considered** Keep workspace admission and dispatch in one change. A workspace change alone would leave dispatch on the previous transport. An execution change alone would leave Core staging files for the wrong host. ## What Changed - Enable plugin environment selection for native workspace sessions. - Resolve workspace metadata and authorized project references without Core checkout, copy, or provision operations. - Preserve agent-default and primary workspace policies. Use the pinned workspace provider for plugin-backed project storage. Reject unsupported Core service commands and cross-owner reuse. - Connect native execution to the prepared task driver. Keep assigned MCP authority on Core. - Save exact checkpoint identity, transfer selected account refreshes, and require termination proof before replacement or cleanup. - Complete managed plugin workspaces through their storage provider. Use the same check after a restart. Keep branch validation and leave task-owned files on the plugin. - Include default instruction content in runtime synchronization when no instruction directory exists. - Defer new-agent Copilot verification until the saved-agent lifecycle can acquire the agent-owned computer. ## Verification - Rebased onto `origin/master` at `898144f4b3`. Master advanced once during verification. Both manual conflicts joined import blocks: one in `native-session-executor.ts`, and one in `heartbeat/runtime-execution.ts`. The seven patches retain their logic. The first rebased head passed repository typecheck, build, all 862 focused execution/finalizer cases, and all CI gates. The latest head `93e5a72892` passes server typecheck and all 880 focused execution, finalization, and execution-control notification tests. All 54 CI/review checks pass, with two expected skips. Greptile ran automatically and scored this head 5/5 with no unresolved findings. No new review or Apex request was made for these import-only resolutions. - The successful CI workflow initially left three stale job-check reports. Targeted policy and summary reruns cleared the reports. No source change or test fix was needed. - Repository typecheck and build pass: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. - Focused native execution and restart tests pass: 795 cases. The account and harness suites pass: 159 cases. Workspace admission passes: 48 cases. The SDK task lifecycle, workspace API, runtime-hook, and instruction checks also pass. - The heartbeat integration case uses the merged workspace provider contract and reaches native dispatch with no project files on Core. The new-agent case confirms that creation leaves the agent in `preparing` until lifecycle verification. - Map validation and the Copilot source-identity check pass. No Runner implementation or source-identity bump is in this PR. - The first rebased workspace run found two stale path assertions and a recovery guard that did not recognize task-owned targets. These are fixed. The storage integration fixture also needed its persisted source binding; the production authorization check stays in place. - Two prior review findings required rejection of Core service startup and cross-owner workspace reuse. The existing admission fixtures now check both failures. The installed-account authentication finding was fixed in merged #17029. - Tests reuse the current fixtures. No new provider test matrix or live Runner process is added for these fixes. - The prior head `2db273ec12` passed CI on its first attempt and reached standard Greptile 5/5. Apex scored 4/5 and found local-folder checks during plugin completion and recovery. - The completion fix reproduces both failures. It passes all 110 cases in the runtime execution, workspace finalizer, and workspace provider integration suites. Server typecheck and map checks pass. CI passed on `62d8335b4e` on its first attempt, and standard Greptile scored 5/5. The next Apex review scored 4/5. It found that a failed plugin inspection could abort restart recovery. - The restart fix records a failed workspace receipt and uses the current run retry policy. A regression first reproduced the aborted pass. It now checks retry state, retained results, and completion of another workspace in the same pass. All 68 finalizer cases and server typecheck pass. CI passed on `7d4016323b` on its first attempt. Standard Greptile and Apex both scored 5/5. Apex left one P2 about lost failure codes. - The diagnostic fix keeps the known branch and owner mismatch codes in receipts and run recovery state. It gives repair guidance for those codes and keeps unknown plugin errors generic. All 96 affected finalizer cases and server typecheck pass. Before the rebase, required CI passed on `c2fa61c6c8` on its first attempt. Standard Greptile and Apex both scored 5/5 on that head, with no unresolved findings. The new head retains these reviewed patches. - The earlier Superagent scan on `c2fa61c6c8` was inconclusive after a pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. The current scan on `93e5a72892` passes. - The exact rebased head passes all 48 workspace cases and server typecheck. The first local test launch could not bind PostgreSQL inside the sandbox. The authorized local-server run passed. - The prior head reached standard Greptile 5/5. Its first CI run hit an unchanged Runner cleanup timeout and an external build-runner shutdown. Both jobs passed on the single retry. The timeout cause is not established. - A local regression check found that a retained Core workspace could also enter a plugin task without file transfer. Core now rejects this move before provider work. The existing ledger test covers both directions and confirms that the source files stay intact. - The first active standard review scored 4/5. It found that a fresh plugin retry could enter Core Git preparation. This mode now uses the existing unsupported-storage error before workspace resolution or acquisition. Both unsupported-mode cases pass, and server typecheck passes. - No live Cloud or provider validation was run. ## Risks - The prerequisite #17029 is merged. This PR targets master. - Native plugin tasks support per-turn workspace sessions. Core service commands and fresh retries that import retained files remain unsupported. A workspace storage plugin can use the modes and strategies it declares. - Core-managed credentials support Codex and direct Claude accounts. Other managed credential routes fail closed. Other harnesses can use an installed account. - A provider must preserve its prepared configuration and report process termination correctly. Uncertain termination keeps the task pending cleanup. - Cloud deployment and live provider validation remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Tool use includes code editing, local tests, and the GitHub CLI. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal issue details - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: stop idle MCP event polling (#17036)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - MCP task subscriptions and Dot mailboxes notify external clients when work changes. > - Their delivery workers queried SQL every two seconds, including when no work existed. > - Those queries prevent idle databases from becoming quiet across many hosted instances. > - Existing activity, mailbox, subscription, and delivery records already preserve the work. > - This pull request uses committed-write signals and saved retry deadlines to drive delivery. > - Idle subscriptions become quiet while startup, retry, drain, and shutdown recovery remain supported. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related sleep migrations: #15625, #17000, #17008. Searched open PRs and issues for MCP event sleep/polling work; no duplicate found. **What happened?** Each public MCP and Dot event service started a two-second interval. It checked settings, scanned subscriptions, created delivery receipts, cleaned expired records, and attempted delivery even without changes. **Expected behavior** An empty or subscribed-but-idle service produces no recurring SQL or network traffic. Committed events trigger prompt delivery. Only unfinished work retains a retry deadline. **Steps to reproduce** Configure a public MCP origin and start the server. Observe recurring settings queries with MCP disabled, or subscription/queue queries with it enabled. No incoming task changes are required. **Paperclip version or commit** Initially inspected master at `8b4ab65b1c3d863d282752e83307943720a5c85c`; rebased onto `c2daf906d9` after master advanced. The only conflict was overlapping imports in the heartbeat queue; both were preserved. ## What Changed - Register separate MCP and Dot workers with the existing delivery coordinator. Remove both unconditional intervals. - Notify from committed activity, comment, mailbox, subscription, and experimental-settings writes. Centralize comment insertion in one small helper so normal callers do not manage recovery state. - Preserve outer transaction ownership, uncertainty reconciliation, and requests deferred during drain or standby. - Restore delivery retry/abandoned-claim deadlines on startup. Scan subscriptions in pages of 20; drain full source and delivery batches without another external event. Scope subscription refreshes to their subscription or shared Dot binding, issue activity to its task, comment discovery to its company, and mailbox/assignment changes to their binding. Retry deadlines do not rescan unchanged sources. - Run expired-record cleanup opportunistically. Preserve on-use expiry checks and the existing one-time automatic Dot challenge behavior. - Add real PostgreSQL lifecycle coverage and guarded external test database options for existing MCP/Dot integrations. Document producers and the supported writer model. ## Verification - Final head `e54fb34485921016ef988f7df9cca173a9ebdfc8`: all CI checks passed (55 successful checks/statuses, one neutral review, two intentionally skipped Storybook checks). Mergeable with no unresolved review threads. Greptile: 5/5 on this exact commit; security scan passed. - All 284 affected tests passed in one local run after rebasing: 16 real-PostgreSQL lifecycle tests, 24 coordinator/scheduler/standby tests, 84 public MCP tests, 54 Dot runner tests, and 106 interaction-service tests. - Server TypeScript passed after refreshing generated Runner/plugin SDK dependencies from master. Full workspace typecheck and build passed before the rebase; final CI repeated typecheck and build successfully on the rebased head. - Coverage includes SQL/network quiet with configuration and history, committed writes, outer commit/rollback, drain/standby, retry restoration, reenable/unsubscribe, concurrent writes, shutdown, source/delivery/subscription batch boundaries, Dot challenges and reconnects, native broker fences, comment discovery, and company-isolated scans. - CI exposed an existing lock-order test whose insert proxy missed nested transactions and waited indefinitely. The fixture now observes nested inserts, preserves the lock assertion, and fails explicitly if interception is missed. The complete 106-test interaction suite and the formerly hanging CI shard pass. The warm-standby/settings test doubles were also updated for the new coordinator/transaction boundaries. - Earlier fixture failures (required timestamps, cleanup, external database selection, async waits) were corrected. One existing OAuth first-poll timing assertion and one E2E company-cleanup race passed on single reruns; the final full CI run passed without a rerun. No OAuth or company-deletion behavior was changed. - The local full `pnpm test:run` attempt could not initialize embedded PostgreSQL after five attempts. It was stopped; affected integrations were verified with separate disposable PostgreSQL 17 databases, and final CI supplied the full-suite result. Embedded-only local skips are not counted as passes. ## Risks - Notifications use one live server/database scope. Independent SQL writers and separate live replicas do not trigger these process-local workers. Startup recovers durable state; continuous multi-writer discovery needs a notification/ingress contract. - Idle physical cleanup waits for startup or another enabled sweep. Subscription and authorization expiry remain enforced on use. - Existing delivery claims, retry bounds, signatures, and receipt deduplication remain in place. No new tables or migrations. - Host sleep-safety checks remain conservative. MCP/Dot retry deadlines are not yet covered by Paperclip Cloud's scheduled-wake contract. This proves worker quiet, not deployed host suspension or fleet savings. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with reasoning, local code execution, and tool use. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(budgets): scope accounting and deliver enforcement asynchronously (#17046)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their paid work. > - Budgets must prevent new work and stop reported overruns. > - Cost settlement also ran serial lifecycle reconciliation for every eligible company agent. > - That made request latency grow with unrelated idle agents and delayed results on stop delivery. > - This change separates atomic admission and accounting from durable asynchronous enforcement. > - Scoped live usage detects overruns without writing provisional ledger charges. > - The result is constant query scope for ordinary settlement and recoverable stop delivery. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Settlement and budget checks entered company-wide lifecycle reconciliation. A company with 1,000 unrelated idle agents performed 1,001 accounting transactions for one ordinary cost evaluation. User requests could also wait for provider termination. Running usage checkpoints did not enforce reported monetary exposure. **Expected behavior** Keep the final reservation gate authoritative. Commit charges, scope blocks, and enforcement intent before returning. Deliver stop requests after commit. Read only applicable policies and execution scopes for ordinary charges. Stop long-running work when supported reported or priced usage establishes an overrun. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a disposable company with one company budget and idle agents. 2. Evaluate a charge below the budget with 0, 17, and 1,000 unrelated idle agents. 3. Compare query counts, company accounting transactions, and duration. 4. Use the controlled partial-usage and delayed-stop fixtures to check enforcement and request responsiveness. **Paperclip version or commit** The measured baseline is `6c9b87d0922f1ebfc43e8b0c36889ac5ba7b9837` from `master`. Related public work: Refs #16976, #2006, #3539, #13763, #14296, #16853, #13075. These cover the affected service charge, cancellation, and accounting paths. This change removes their shared reconciliation overhead. ## What Changed - Batch applicable policy exposure under the existing company accounting lock. Preserve exact fractional money and zero-reservation dispatch fences. - Commit a durable final budget dispatch claim before provider I/O. Retain a separate final issue/run ownership transaction through synchronous handoff, without holding the company accounting lock or awaiting provider work. Preserve native recovery lease checks and duplicate handoff fencing. Browser handoff rechecks current policy; it reuses a consumed rate slot only for the identical policy generation. - Separate ledger spend, live observed spend, and effective held capacity. Use the maximum of reservation and live observation for each unfinished operation. - Deliver budget cancellation through the existing coordinator. Revalidate generations and persist queued/running stop fences before external termination. Bound stop concurrency to four. - Apply agent holds only to the affected agent. Project budgets leave other projects running. Project real company transitions in bounded lifecycle batches. - Replace periodic broad reconciliation with durable pending work, startup repair, receipt replay, and concrete retry/window deadlines. Retain drain and idle-safety checks. - Enforce accepted cumulative usage checkpoints without provisional charges. Final accounting atomically replaces live exposure and settles reservations. - Add operator-gated budget spans, regression coverage, map updates, and a real-PostgreSQL comparison harness. No schema or first-party telemetry change. ## Verification - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` passes on the final ownership fix, rebased onto `bbcf5dfe98`. Production `pnpm build` passes on final head `4c5f4de8b1`. Map, module-boundary, token, and Storybook catalog checks pass. - Focused real-PostgreSQL coverage includes the 292-case rebased accounting/dispatch run, 63 browser cases, 52 run-control/cancellation cases, 42 policy-generation cases, 77 lifecycle/commentary cases, and the exact Muse confirmation regression. Native executor unit coverage passes all 768 cases. Final ownership coverage passes: 74 adapter/use-case cases, nine public regression cases, and the additional deleted-project race. These exercise competing ownership, budget changes and charges between phases, zero/nonzero duplicate claims, rollback, recovery contention, read-only capacity rechecks, and controlled HTTP startup after commit. Another 74 pure/startup/tracing cases pass. The complete CI matrix and both 5/5 reviews passed on `1ac9b58`; its external security scan identified a stale-owner handoff race. The final fix restores synchronous issue/run ownership fencing after the accounting transaction commits. Final head `8e84f55ce8` has fresh Greptile 5/5 with zero new comments, Paperclip review 5/5, and a passing security scan. The complete latest-head [CI matrix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39535189808) passes, including budget, browser, Runner, build, and canary jobs. The unchanged Runner close fixture passed on its sole same-head job retry. - Broad local `pnpm test:run` invocations were stopped before required source updates (rebase and review fixes). They are not claimed as full passes. Final full-suite coverage comes from the complete latest-head CI matrix; local focused coverage and the incomplete broad invocations are reported separately. - Reproduce performance with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-budget-enforcement.ts --baseline-ref=6c9b87d0922f1ebfc43e8b0c36889ac5ba7b9837`; repeat with `--reverse`. The harness uses disposable real PostgreSQL, 20 warm samples per variant/count, and records raw timings, SQL/lock counts, agent reads, unchanged agent state, and query plans. Final production-source measurement revision: `eff713a4f72c7f4b7a4002a701cb481d4bfccd95`; the extended harness is committed in `4c5f4de8b1`. | Unrelated idle agents | Baseline median / p95 | New median / p95 | Baseline SQL / locks | New SQL / locks | New agent reads | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | | 0 | 1.80 / 2.33 ms | 2.99 / 3.88 ms | 5 / 1 | 7 / 1 | 0 | | 17 | 15.53 / 19.55 ms | 2.24 / 2.60 ms | 90 / 18 | 7 / 1 | 0 | | 1,000 | 978.35 / 1,790.43 ms | 2.16 / 2.52 ms | 5,005 / 1,001 | 7 / 1 | 0 | - These measurements use local PostgreSQL 18.1 and Node 26.4.0 arm64. They isolate the cost-evaluation core and complete admission path, without hosted-region or provider latency. Prior-revision reversed-order controls also preserved the constant query counts; the final measurements above use the final production source. - Complete reserve → final ownership gate → immediate offline provider result is measured separately, with one responsible agent and one active operation at each unrelated-agent count. Admission p95 baseline/new: 0 agents **11.54 / 29.77 ms**; 17 agents **9.31 / 27.62 ms**; 1,000 agents **24.51 / 74.05 ms**. Baseline admission was already scoped; the stronger final fence adds bounded overhead. New counts stay constant at 53 Drizzle statements, three transactions, two company-accounting locks, and five agent-reading statements bound to the responsible agent. Zero unrelated-agent reads, exactly one provider callback per sample, and no leftover runs or holds. All admission scenarios stay below 250 ms. No external provider calls are included. - The partial-usage/delayed-termination fixture passed 20/20: receipt persistence p95 13 ms, receipt return to observed durable Stop fence p95 28 ms, complete receipt-start-to-fence p95 50 ms, unrelated database request p95 1 ms while termination was blocked. After releasing the controlled termination fixture, acknowledgement p95 was 14 ms. These are separately measured phases; fixture acknowledgement is not live-provider termination latency. - Models and provider deadlines are unchanged. No deployment, live inference, or staging acceptance is claimed. A quiet 30-minute follow-up waits for the merged revision on staging, then repeats classifier and controlled budget-stop acceptance in staging, recording hosted bookkeeping, queue delay, and actual provider acknowledgement separately. - Development failures retained: finalizer notification regressions (fixed; 27/27 affected cases passed), invalid browser admission fixture assumptions (fixed; browser coverage now passes 63/63), and first-head lifecycle/dispatch CI regressions (reproduced and repaired). A prior-head Cases E2E test hit its unchanged announcement-dismiss handler race while opening a filter; the same journey passed on `1ac9b58`. The external security review then found a stale-owner race between accounting commit and provider entry; final verification covers a competing run in that gap while retaining provider I/O outside the accounting lock. Early PostgreSQL startup attempts hit local semaphore pressure; serial reruns succeeded. The final-head Runner lane had one failure among 1,823 tests: the unchanged `timeout-attachment` fixture failed at its first process close after 6.28 seconds. The sole same-head job retry passed all 1,819 active tests (four skipped), including that fixture in 1.85 seconds. Three isolated local probes could not run correctly because the Rust fake-provider fixture binary was absent; cleanup masked the original startup failure. CI builds that fixture through its normal lane. These probes are inconclusive and are not counted as passes. ## Risks - This changes accounting, lifecycle, and cancellation ordering. Durable generations, source/sequence checks, ownership leases, and company locking remain required for correctness. - Provider stop acknowledgement can be slow or fail. Stop intent remains pending until existing termination proof succeeds; cancelled row status alone does not acknowledge delivery. - Mid-run limits depend on provider usage reports or supported price calculations. Providers that report only at completion cannot provide exact mid-call detection. - Signals are process-local wake hints for the supported single-active-writer model. Durable state and startup recovery remain authoritative. - There are no migrations, new queue tables, or cached balances. Repeat the classifier and controlled budget-stop acceptance after normal rollout. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and parallel coding agents. The host does not expose the exact backend model revision or context-window size, so those values are not asserted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: resume unfinished work after repository preparation (#17047)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agents that perform work for a company.
> - Task repositories are prepared at normal run admission.
> - A running native task can stage a repository while its work remains
unfinished.
> - The controller did not offer that saved setup as a continuation.
> - The agent could add a timer or wait for a user restart.
> - This change uses the existing same-agent continuation and status
ledger.
> - The accepted explanation and proven conversation remain available
after setup.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #17045. That prerequisite has merged. This PR targets master.
**What happened?**
A projectless native task can request a repository for the next
admission. An unfinished task has no server-selected repository
continuation. An explicit same-agent continuation also loses chat
provenance.
**Expected behavior**
An unfinished standard task can yield and resume through the existing
admission queue. Its explanation and final result retain the authorized
conversation. A task that only stages a repository can complete without
another run.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start a native standard task in a task directory.
2. Request an authorized repository through prepare_repository.
3. Yield with unfinished work and no explicit continuation.
4. Observe that the former driver rejects the yield, although the
pending repository is saved.
## What Changed
- Offer a saved same-agent continuation for the current task's pending
repository.
- Accept that current server continuation in the shared provider driver.
- Resolve chat provenance through applied status decisions, delivered
effects, and admitted wakes.
- Preserve accepted setup explanations without repeating an owned
question card.
- Document optional reproduction details and configured repository
discovery.
- Extend database regressions and workspace access maps.
- Preserve Copilot profile v52 and bind the shared continuation source
in v53. Include the active identity in the QA image fingerprint.
## Verification
- Five focused server suites: 100 checks pass.
- Shared continuation driver: 12 checks pass.
- Server typecheck passes.
- Map contract and whitespace checks pass.
- Existing API and driver assertions fail on the former implementation.
- Real dispatcher and queue cohort: 43 checks pass. The original
reply-loss regression fails before the dispatch receipt fix.
- Continuation driver and installation identity cohort: 62 checks pass.
- Regenerated capability inventory and contract checks pass.
- Final response precedence cohort: 109 checks pass. The stale-comment
case fails on the former implementation.
- All required CI checks, build, and both source reviews pass on

fix(chat): keep each chat conversation in its own wake batch (#17054)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat channels let a linked user talk to an agent from Slack, GitHub and other platforms. Each external thread is a chat conversation that is bound to one issue. > - One issue can have many conversations. A GitHub pull request review makes one conversation for each inline finding thread. > - When replies arrive behind an active run, the wake queue merges them into one deferred wake. The merge did not look at the conversation. > - A reviewed chat run can attest only one conversation. A merged batch from two threads always failed attestation with `setup_failed` / `reviewed_chat_execution_binding_not_authorized`, so no reply got an answer. > - This pull request keeps each chat conversation in its own wake batch. The single-conversation attestation check stays the same. > - The benefit is that replies in different review threads each get their own attested run, one after the other. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16793 (related: chat origin during coalescing). No public issue exists, so the bug report follows. **What happened?** A linked user replied in three different inline review-finding threads of one pull request while the agent's review run was still active. The three wakes merged into one deferred wake. The promoted run failed in about 2 seconds with `setup_failed` / `reviewed_chat_execution_binding_not_authorized` and `providerWorkStarted=false`. None of the three replies got an answer. The failed-chat retry cannot recover this batch, because a retry source holds one conversation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Bind two chat conversations (two GitHub finding threads) to one `in_review` issue. 2. Start a run for the assigned agent on that issue. 3. As the linked user, reply once in each thread. 4. Finish the active run. 5. See one promoted run that fails with `reviewed_chat_execution_binding_not_authorized`. **Expected behavior** Each thread gets its own run. Each run attests its one conversation and answers its reply. **Cause** `findExistingDeferredWake` matched on company, agent, issue and actor only. The active-run coalesce path had the same gap. `authorizeChatConversationForBoundRun` correctly denies a batch with more than one conversation. ## What Changed - `run-dispatch/domain/wake-context.ts`: add the `chatConversationId` wake-context key, a reader, and `wakeChatConversationsConflict`. A conflict means that both wakes have a conversation and the two conversations are different. - `issue-assignment-wakeup.ts` and `chat-channels/inbound/wakeups.ts`: stamp the conversation ID on each inbound chat wake. - `chat-channels/failed-run-retry.ts`: stamp the conversation ID on failed-chat retry wakes, so later replies do not merge into a retry from another conversation. - `wake-queue` admission: do not coalesce into an active run of another conversation. The deferred-wake lookup now matches only wakes of the same conversation or wakes without a conversation. - `heartbeat/queue.ts`: the same-scope queued or running coalesce target is skipped when the conversations conflict. - `doc/execution-semantics.md`: describe per-conversation chat wake batching. - Tests: an integration regression in the GitHub review block of `chat-channels.integration.test.ts`, and unit cases for the active-run branch in `wake-queue/application/use-cases.test.ts`. ## Verification - Red before the fix: `pnpm --dir server exec vitest run src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t "replies in review finding threads"`. The main case fails with one run: `{ status: "failed", errorCode: "setup_failed", error: "reviewed_chat_execution_binding_not_authorized" }`. - Green after the fix, same command, 3 of 3 pass: - Replies in two finding threads give two successive runs. Each run succeeds, has `paperclipExternalChatExecutionBound: true`, and holds only its own comment and conversation. - Two replies in the same thread still give one run with both comments. - After the linked identity is revoked, each separated run is still denied (`setup_failed`) and the adapter does not execute. - `vitest run src/modules/wake-queue src/modules/run-dispatch`: all pass, with the new cases (different conversation, same conversation, run without a conversation, non-chat wake). - Related suites pass: `heartbeat-comment-wake-batching`, `durable-chat-wakeup`, `chat-failed-run-retry-boundary`, `issue-queued-comments-routes`, `heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation`. - Full `chat-channels.integration.test.ts`: 823 passed, 1 timed out. The timed-out test (`GitHub terminal receipt composes pinned HTTP and durable source authority (held_token)`) passes alone with and without this change. The sandbox has a 4 GB memory cap. - Not run locally: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The server `tsc` process was killed at the 4 GB sandbox memory cap. CI runs both. - Runtime dependency note: the deferred-wake lookup adds one JSONB predicate to the existing deferred-wake query. It reads the same rows. The query count does not change. The integration regression runs it against embedded Postgres. ## Risks - Low risk. No schema change and no migration. - Behavior change: chat replies from different conversations on one issue now run one after the other, not in one batch. Before this change, such a batch always failed, so no working flow becomes slower. - Wakes without a conversation (non-chat wakes, and wakes queued before this deploy) keep the old coalescing. A deferred wake from before the deploy has no conversation key, so one later reply can still merge into it. That window closes when the queue drains. - The check keeps the single-conversation attestation in `authorizeChatConversationForBoundRun`. Revoked identities are still denied. ## Model Used - Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`), in Claude Code through the Paperclip agent harness. fix: preserve task continuation and question delivery (#17045)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work and delivers its results.
> - One task can need several runs and a saved workspace.
> - A run can succeed while the task waits for its next run.
> - Chat fallback treated that success as completion and dropped useful
status.
> - Monitor runs also lost their conversation origin, and text-question
cards lost their prompt.
> - This change preserves the task outcome and exact delivery authority
across those boundaries.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
A Slack task requested a repository, yielded to a scheduled
continuation, and showed only a generic completion message. The next run
could not publish through the original conversation. A later text
question showed its title and Respond button without the question
context. Workspace recovery could commit the saved monitor result
without restoring its explanation.
**Expected behavior**
The original conversation shows the accepted continuation explanation,
receives the resumed result, and displays the full question when input
is needed. A successful provider run does not claim that unfinished work
is complete. Recovery delivers saved output once without another
provider result.
**Steps to reproduce**
Start an authorized chat task, prepare a repository for a later
admission, save a monitor wait, and let that monitor resume the task.
Repeat with workspace finalization interrupted and with a free-text
question. Inspect the originating conversation and the persisted output.
Related merged work: #16806 and #16975. The open monitor and recovery
changes found during duplicate search address different status and
liveness policies.
## What Changed
- Keep committed monitor summaries visible through the shared board and
chat response resolver. Preserve interaction ownership and comment
reuse.
- Recover a saved monitor explanation after finalization, with no
repeated provider result.
- Prove monitor publication origin from the admitted wake and matching
scheduling receipt. Match company, task, agent, requester, and schedule;
reject ambiguous sources.
- Include monitor continuations in the existing publication scan and use
the canonical task binding. Keep current transport authorization.
- Suppress completion fallback for yielded results. Explain missing
final output without claiming completion.
- Include question summaries, prompts, and help text in modal-backed
cards. Keep answered text private.
- Update execution semantics, capability maps, and the bounded
reliability plan.
## Verification
- Original source fails four composed PostgreSQL regressions: monitor
origin, yielded completion, question body, and saved-summary recovery.
The shared response resolver also fails before the repair.
- Repaired focused cohort: 148 tests pass across publication, question
privacy, scheduler, and native monitor suites. These use real disposable
PostgreSQL; they do not qualify live Slack.
- Full workspace typecheck and production build pass locally. Map checks
and whitespace checks pass.
- All CI gates pass at

fix: recover saved work and provide reliable task Retry (#16965)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The control plane must retain work when an execution or workspace export fails. > - Retained-workspace holds can leave saved input waiting with no usable Retry action. > - Users cannot verify process ownership or repair provider allocations. > - This pull request gives system recovery a durable budget and gives each deliberate Retry a durable intent. > - Safe recovery can preserve files, settle an accepted result, or prepare an independent workspace. > - One task state keeps infrastructure diagnostics out of the ordinary conversation while preserving real permission and approval gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task with a retained workspace can show recovery, failed-run and saved-message warnings at the same time. Historical runs without native workspace descriptors cannot use the native restore path. Old recovery metadata can prevent a new attempt even when an independent workspace would be safe. **Expected behavior** Paperclip owns bounded infrastructure retries and file preservation. A user can request another attempt with ordinary Retry. Thinking appears immediately. The service preserves completed effects and current user controls. It does not claim that starting fresh recovered the old files. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Retain a failed run and its workspace after export or process-stop failure. 2. Save a follow-up while the recovery hold is active. 3. Open the task and try to continue without infrastructure credentials or operator certification. Refs #16906, #16835, #16883. This extends their recovery and receipt contracts. Related work: #16962 and #16963. ## What Changed - Add task-level Retry with company-scoped authorization, all-status idempotency and durable admission before physical work. Keep exact-run Retry compatible. - Add typed recovery phases, finite persisted backoff, historical adoption and durable local failure diagnostics. - Preserve native workspaces or verified historical snapshots. Admit an independent fresh workspace only after execution containment. Keep old-source preservation and cleanup obligations separate. - Carry completed publication and API receipts forward. Fence uncertain mutation retries across replacement runs. Preserve connected-chat identity and authorization. - Re-enter normal dispatch for saved input. Reuse accepted results through the existing finalizer. - Use one task interruption projection across the thread, composer and task list. Show optimistic Thinking, ordinary Retry and genuine user gates. - Add PostgreSQL, filesystem, API, browser-fixture and controlled provider coverage. Document the behavior and update the feature/access maps. ## Verification - All GitHub Actions CI jobs pass on `6d8c6d27d50586d8548b31d03b47f6d73a0ee11d`: typecheck, all server/chat/workspace and serialized suites, Runner checks, eight browser shards, canary and build. The required merge gate passes. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5, with no actionable findings or unresolved review threads. Its two earlier P1 findings are fixed. - Full recursive typecheck and build pass locally on the final commit. All 16 task Retry cases pass against isolated real PostgreSQL. The unrelated-success case and both stale Retry cases fail on the previous code and pass after the fix. - The corrected gateway fixture passes its uncertain-mutation and independent-read case. Four real HTTP API cases pass for definite 403/422 rejection, completed-effect reuse, and uncertain-effect fences across deliberate and automatic retries. These focused gateway/API checks used a temporary database lifecycle harness on an existing healthy local PostgreSQL process. The standard repository helper is unchanged. - Earlier qualification covers 291 task UI cases, saved-file copyback and ancestry, current Agent Chat ownership races, nine chat Retry API browser cases, and six assembled browser recovery fixtures. A real API/PostgreSQL/native-runner journey showed Thinking in 25 ms despite a delayed response, admitted one successor in a separate workspace, retained original files, and survived reload. - The controlled Daytona test interrupts export, joins the controller, restarts it in a separate process, and verifies one agent start, one external sentinel operation, retained file contents and no premature cleanup. It does not establish abrupt-kill or live LLM/GitHub acceptance. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and was not green: an OAuth row-lock timing assertion failed, and a later suite exhausted macOS PostgreSQL semaphores. The ten OAuth timing cases passed on rerun against a separate database. Later embedded database initialization failures remain recorded; the final CI matrix passes. - Security scanning passed on production-code commit `63953edf069b111c6becc3144dffa6deb52f68b5`. Its only successor changes one test-fixture identity line. The final scan is neutral/inconclusive because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. Both rerun API requests returned 404, so no fresh successful scan is claimed. Socket and Snyk checks pass on the final head. - The optional Paperclip Review remains queued behind an earlier run in workspace finalization. Its prior completed assessment was incomplete because a comparison tool was blocked by the platform filter. It is not counted as a completed code review. GitHub does not require this check for merge. - Hosted acceptance remains pending deployment. Local and CI results do not establish recovery of a hosted task or its retained files. ## Risks - Recovery changes span admission, physical ownership and dispatch. Incorrect evidence could permit overlapping work. Existing physical locks and authoritative stop requirements remain in place. - The migration adds concurrent indexes. It requires the existing top-level migration runner and retries incomplete index creation safely. - A fresh attempt can complete while old-source preservation remains unresolved. The service retains that obligation and does not report those files as recovered. - Unknown tool mutations remain blocked until their authoritative receipt owner resolves them. Generic upstream tools have no universal result-query protocol. - Recovery and diagnostics stay inside the stack. No Cloud incident endpoint, notification worker or new outbound reporting channel is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. The model used reasoning, shell execution, source editing and browser tools. No model subagents were used for this implementation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; the full local run limitation is documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Add plugin-owned project storage and task workspaces (#17001)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks can use isolated repository workspaces. > - Core currently prepares those repositories on its own filesystem. > - A storage provider may only expose repositories inside remote agent computers. > - Project storage and task workspace preparation must have one provider owner. > - This pull request adds that contract and keeps execution as a separate plugin interface. > - Core keeps authorization, durable task bindings, and lifecycle fences. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin SDK, project workspace policy, heartbeat preparation, execution leases, and workspace lifecycle. **Problem or motivation** Core cannot prepare a task workspace when its repository storage is unavailable on the Core host. An execution lease must not be required just to prepare persistent storage. **Proposed solution** Let one plugin provide project resource lifecycle and workspace prepare, inspect, restore, and remove behavior. Core reserves a task workspace before it calls the plugin. The plugin returns an opaque durable reference. The matching execution plugin receives that reference on its task RPC. **Alternatives considered** Preparing repositories on Core would require a provider mount on Core. Preparing them only during task launch would tie persistent workspace lifecycle to execution leases and agent availability. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the remote provider model in ROADMAP.md. Related execution work is in #16978. This PR does not replace that task bridge. Native execution of managed storage requires the bridge; this change fails closed when it is absent. ## What Changed - Add one storage provider declaration with supported modes/strategies, a capability, a validated RPC contract, and a test harness. - Persist provider ownership, repository revision, and execution-workspace identity before external effects. Reconcile retries with a stable operation ID. - Prepare provider storage before environment acquisition. Keep Core filesystem preparation out of this path. - Pin the durable reference to the matching execution plugin and validate the lease binding before task dispatch. - Route inspection, reopen, and removal through the existing lifecycle process. Keep local data when remote recovery is uncertain. - Keep the application database pool free during lifecycle locks. Preserve pending workspace selections, validate source edits before retirement, and retry unfinished closed storage cleanup. - Protect provider metadata and live repository sources from caller edits. Storage edits retire only closed records with confirmed removal; retired records cannot reopen. ## Verification - Current head `8214b3ca5`: all 25 provider lifecycle tests pass with `maxConnections=1`. They cover preparation, inspection, reopening, removal, a paused provider with responsive ordinary SQL and a competing source edit, pending selection preservation, rejected source edits, cleanup retry scheduling, and providers that cache operation results, and committed cleanup notifications for storage intent and recovered state. - Final frozen-tree lifecycle run on `8214b3ca5`: all 318 tests passed in 10 files, covering workspace services, reopen, compaction, task binding, project sources, heartbeat preparation, display caching, and source locks. - Direct server `tsc --noEmit` passes. The SDK build and all 128 SDK tests passed during initial verification; later SDK changes are documentation only. - Full CI on the previous head `ec5c7209a` passed all 55 applicable checks; 2 conditional checks skipped. Standard Greptile reviewed current head `342e6d9c3` at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. All 55 applicable CI checks passed on `342e6d9c3`; 2 conditional checks skipped. The Slack browser and CLI startup jobs passed on their single unchanged-head rerun. Its Apex review returned 4/5 with one pending-restoration issue. Commit `1b58943b1` reconciles that durable intent before cleanup, advances the generation without reopening the Core row, and blocks direct removal or retirement while intent remains unresolved. Standard Greptile reviewed `1b58943b1` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 54 applicable CI checks passed on `1b58943b1`; 3 conditional checks skipped. The chat job passed on its single unchanged-head rerun. Apex then returned 4/5 for a missing cleanup wake after recovery. Commit `8214b3ca5` atomically registers cleanup intent before storage intent and recovery-result writes. Its provider test observes real committed notification hints and the visible advanced generation. Standard Greptile reviewed `8214b3ca5` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 55 applicable current-head CI checks passed on the first run; 2 conditional checks skipped. Final Apex verification completed at 5/5 on this exact head: 38 files reviewed, no new comments, and no unresolved threads. The PR is ready for review and mergeable. - The first Apex review found five issues after a standard 5/5: application-pool starvation, stale pending selections, retirement during rejected source edits, lost cleanup retries, and reused inspection identities. Commits `6d72e7fd4` and `342e6d9c3` fix each with regression coverage. Archive lock waits use dedicated connections, and source edits fail promptly if the lifecycle is busy. Retirement compares normalized values. The normalized-source regression initially failed with the raw-value comparison; after moving the check after normalization, a clean provider-suite rerun passed all 24 tests at that stage. Those threads are resolved; the earlier Apex 0/5 is not a passing acceptance result. - Earlier local integration attempts could not bind localhost inside the sandbox. The same suites passed with permission to start local PostgreSQL. - The earlier broad local `pnpm test:run` overlapped edits and reported stale-revision and checkout-path/Git-fixture failures. It was not a final-tree result. Full CI subsequently passed; the original local failure remains part of verification history. - Local repository-wide typecheck/build cannot complete because `cargo` is unavailable. Direct server TypeScript checks and affected tests pass; full Rust and build validation comes from CI. - An earlier browser run on `ff918c5a8` failed in the unchanged case-filter journey: expected “Done,” received “All statuses,” with an announcement handler recorded during the assertion. The cause is not confirmed. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39500611857/job/118896954508) remains verification history. The unchanged shard passed in the next full CI run on `ec5c7209a`; no UI or fixture change was made. - Current-head browser shard 2 failed waiting five seconds for the mocked Slack setup Success heading. This PR changes neither that UI nor its fixture. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021232) remains verification evidence. The cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-shard rerun passed; no UI or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The workspace test shard passed its 3,978 general tests, then its CLI company-import/export fixture timed out after 30 seconds waiting for startup health before creating any company or workspace. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021855) remains verification history. The child reached external-PostgreSQL startup without exiting or reporting an exception. Its cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-job rerun passed, including the CLI fixture. No startup or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The new cached-removal regression initially failed because its fake worker advertised availability for unrelated fixture plugins, so another workspace changed its fake checkout state. Worker availability now matches the fixture plugin; the complete 25-test provider suite passes. - On `1b58943b1`, the chat shard timed out polling for one conversation after an authorized GitHub description edit. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39510521657/job/118930193418) remains evidence. The exact case passes locally against PostgreSQL (1 passed, 1,380 unrelated cases skipped), and this PR changes neither that test nor its handler. The original cause is unconfirmed; the single unchanged-job CI rerun passed without a code or fixture change. The original cause remains unconfirmed. - The diff was checked for credentials, private references, and generated artifacts. ## Risks This is an additive provider contract with no database migration. Existing projects keep their local behavior unless their policy selects a storage plugin. A selected provider must be ready and enabled. Unknown or unsafe cleanup fails closed. Managed native execution depends on #16978. Core refuses a host Runner fallback. Providers must fence lifecycle generations, preserve ambiguous retries, and report remote recovery honestly. Provider-specific live storage and guest mount qualification remain separate from these Core contract tests. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with repository inspection, code execution, and tests. The exact model variant was not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (affected suites; broad-run limits are documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer work. > - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion, workspace, and review policy. > - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between agents. > - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access, budgets, and completion gates. > - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and read-only case pages. > - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when work can run and finish. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its own running task. **Proposed solution** Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase, retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`, `update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to `done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted. **Alternatives considered** Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph, or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays removed. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review, budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain authoritative. Related work: [ordinary handoff wake recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release barrier. ## What Changed - Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations. - Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each returning agent's own session and the task's workspace. - Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership, including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting. - Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside retained task/project permissions. - Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts, and current source authorization on every page. - Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls, compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in Audit. - Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile. - Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task threads. - Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount behavior. ## Verification The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614) passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549), with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a required branch check. No check result was overridden. Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008 API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit. On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests** executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files: - 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout. - 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure, a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a fresh worker after the process group stops. - 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts. - 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests. - 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool integration tests. - 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict protocol-contract tests. The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master `9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking; unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior. These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the browser-only retry did not rerun these suites. The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects. The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`. The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged. The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10 tests. The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the 194 critical tests or as live provider proof. All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes. Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review later identified unusable document references with generic API tools disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated HTTP tests address that finding. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped, including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard also passed after the fixture repair. A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6 USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on `6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable. Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48 identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json). This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix, installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout. Preserved CI failures and retries: - On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that shard; no source or timeout changed. - On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19 UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all 32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head, `7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries. - On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease. Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all 41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries. - On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard passed. - On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit. Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed. The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify the original blocking transaction. ## Risks - Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently of scratch setup. - Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and uncertain provider termination. - Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions. This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing task cannot preserve that boundary. - Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill. Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff. - Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access. - Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page. Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old snapshot. - Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy review or approval gates. - This is a large, cross-cutting PR. The maintainer requested one PR for the whole feature; the commits separate data, runtime, UI, and qualification work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use, code execution, and delegated code review. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were not exposed in the session. Live fixture agents used the explicitly configured provider model recorded in their test evidence.

Fix native monitor dispatch and finalization recovery (#16975)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native runs persist their results and workspace before they release execution. > - A task monitor must wait for that settlement before it starts the next run. > - The scheduler checked provider status but did not check unfinished finalization. > - A timer could dispatch too early, then its old finalizer could no longer find the consumed schedule. > - This pull request delays dispatch and reconciles prior delivery from server records. > - The task can continue without repeating the provider turn or removing a newer run's ownership. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native run saved a yielded monitor result while workspace finalization needed recovery. Its timer dispatched after the provider stopped. The follow-up failed because the earlier run still held workspace recovery. The old finalizer then retried `monitor_wait_authority_lost` indefinitely. **Expected behavior** Timer dispatch waits for native finalization. If an older timer already dispatched, the finalizer uses its saved scheduling receipt and admitted successor to settle the old result. It preserves current task state and ownership. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Schedule a task monitor from a native run and save a yielded result. 2. Leave native finalization retryable after the provider reaches a terminal state. 3. Let the monitor become due. Before this change, the scheduler consumes it. 4. Restore workspace persistence and retry the old finalizer. Before this change, the missing schedule leaves it retryable. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against master `34be1b831bcaba070264ae8d214ceffe6a8f9eab`. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server built from source, with PostgreSQL and the native runner. Related recent recovery work: #16962 and #16963. No duplicate repair found for this failure. ## What Changed - Scheduled and manual monitor dispatch wait for unfinished native finalization. If the monitor expires during workspace recovery, the accepted result can settle into the persisted schedule, and the scheduler then applies its existing expiry policy. New monitor-wait results still require an unexpired, unexhausted schedule. - A narrow reader joins the run's server-issued monitor receipt to its durable wake and admitted successor. - The finalizer and locked status commit verify that evidence and preserve current task ownership. They do not create another wake. - Monitor delivery participates in assessment identity, so recovery can replace a prior error decision without violating the decision ledger's uniqueness constraints. - PostgreSQL regressions cover saved-result replay, active successors, wrong task or agent, missing receipts, unadmitted wakes, ownership races, and failed workspace persistence. - The execution contract and verification maps describe the recovery boundary. ## Verification - Red: the saved monitor regression remained `retryable_failure` instead of `committed` on unpatched code. - Red: the scheduler admitted a wake while terminal-run finalization remained retryable. - Red/green: two PostgreSQL cases reproduce timeout during workspace recovery for scheduled and manual checks. Before the review repair, both remain `retryable_failure` with `monitor_wait_authority_lost`. Afterward, both commit, apply board escalation once, preserve the saved result, and enqueue zero provider wakes. New completion still rejects the expired schedule. - Typecheck: `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - Build: `pnpm build` passed. - Maps: `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Review: Greptile 5/5 and Ponytail Paperclip Review 5/5 on the current head, with no unresolved findings. Both reviews are static; execution evidence is recorded separately above and below. - Linux staging: the original repair passed 170 tests across monitor integration, scheduling, status arbitration, and workspace finalization. The expanded suite passes all 172 tests, including both new timeout regressions. - Live acceptance: deployed the original repair to the authorized Linux ARM64 self-hosted instance. The stranded saved result finalized automatically; the original task then completed through normal admission, with its final answer persisted after browser reload. The other original task was already complete and its external delivery was verified without repeating it. - The initial Mac regression run passed 68 tests, but three suites failed during embedded PostgreSQL startup. A subsequent focused run confirmed the host had exhausted its PostgreSQL semaphore allowance. Linux verification uses isolated databases; the local failure logs remain preserved. - The local full test suite is not claimed as passed. It is blocked by the same PostgreSQL startup limitation; full-suite CI passed on head `8bc29d1b7783446f397b858e558083570a96bb66` ([run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39447913466)). ## Risks - A delivery match must not grant new execution authority. The lookup requires the original run's server receipt and a matching company, agent, task, wake, and admitted successor. The locked commit rejects old-run checkout ownership and permits no status effects. - Workspace persistence must succeed before settlement. Its existing failure path remains effective. - The scheduler waits while a native finalizer is unfinished. Workspace recovery must settle before dispatch; elapsed monitor limits transfer to the existing scheduler recovery policy instead of stranding the result. Neither settlement path renews a deadline or changes budget, approval, pause, or provider authority. - No schema, migration, credential, or provider configuration change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with tool use and code execution. Avoid loading tool schemas for effective assignments (#16969)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tool profiles define which tools an agent can use. > - Run preparation and connection checks resolve these assignments from the database. > - These callers need tool IDs and names, but the existing lookup also reads complete schemas and provider metadata. > - Repeated lookups transfer data that these callers discard. > - This pull request adds a small assignment projection through the same permission resolver. > - The benefit is less database transfer and JSON work with current permission checks and the same public response. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Effective tool assignment reads during run preparation, native runtime setup, and connection policy checks. **Subsystem affected** server/ — tool access and orchestration services. **Current behavior** Internal callers use the public effective-profile lookup. Its catalog query reads complete tool rows, including input schemas, output schemas, annotations, and provider metadata. These callers only use catalog IDs and names. **Proposed behavior** Internal callers use an assignment lookup that selects catalog identity and selector fields. Both lookups share one resolver. The public effective-profile endpoint keeps its complete definitions. **Reason and benefit** Large catalogs increase database transfer and JSON work for every assignment lookup. The smaller query avoids that payload without caching permissions or changing query frequency. **Breaking changes** None. No route, schema, migration, permission rule, or public response changes. Related: Refs #16761, Refs #16723. The former narrows profile summary reads. The latter changes how the gateway presents tool definitions. Neither narrows this internal effective-assignment lookup. ## What Changed - Share effective-profile resolution between full definitions and assignment records. - Select the existing catalog identity and selector projection for internal assignments. - Use the assignment lookup in run preparation, native runtime setup, and connection policy checks. - Add real PostgreSQL tests for selectors, exclusions, current profile and binding state, company boundaries, and returned payload size. - Document the database read contract. ## Verification - Five focused test files passed: 521 tests. They cover tool access, connection intents, runtime preparation, native runtime context, and the new assignment lookup. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm check:module-boundaries` passed. - The PostgreSQL fixture compares the full authorization result with the assignment result. It checks all selector types, excludes removed tools, and observes catalog, profile, and binding changes on later calls. - The payload test measures rows returned by PostgreSQL before application mapping. With large schema and annotation fields, the assignment result is less than 1% of the full catalog payload. This is a synthetic fixture result, not a fleet savings estimate. - `pnpm build` passed. - The full local suite is in progress. It found two Git fixture failures that also reproduce on unchanged master with `init.defaultBranch=main`. Both pass with a process-only `init.defaultBranch=master` setting. The global Git configuration was not changed. This earlier failure remains recorded; it is not counted as a clean first pass. - Apex review: 5/5, no actionable comments. All 54 CI checks passed; two conditional jobs were skipped. - The broader local run also reached two UI test timeouts and one adapter test timeout. All three passed when rerun in isolation with unchanged source. The exact cause of these timeouts is not established. No UI or adapter implementation is changed by this PR. The CLI import/export journey passes its assertions but its local teardown fails with `ENOTEMPTY` while a runtime context asset is written. Its CI check passed. The complete local suite is not reported as a clean pass. ## Risks - Both lookups share permission resolution. Existing tool access tests and result parity checks cover that extraction. - Future assignment callers must use the fields in the smaller result. Typechecking rejects attempts to read full schemas from it. - The lookup still scans the active company catalog and resolves current connections on every call. This change reduces returned bytes; it does not reduce query count or introduce a cache. - No database migration or operational configuration change is required. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool-assisted source inspection, implementation, and test execution. The exact model variant and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(github): reuse review instructions across native turns (#16971)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - GitHub events continue an ordinary task and can reuse its provider conversation. > - Each automatic event appended the full review policy and PR description. > - Native GitHub follow-ups also repeated task history because only Slack used the compact path. > - This pull request separates admitted review configuration from commit updates. > - A verified resume sends the current messages and changed configuration. A fresh session gets full context. > - This reduces repeated input while retaining review rules and current tool checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13959, #16645, #16901. **What happened?** Opening a PR and pushing twice stored three full review prompts. A later native turn repeated all three in a retained provider conversation. **Expected behavior** A new event supplies its commit and event data. The harness delivers stable review instructions once per retained conversation and configuration. Fresh sessions receive full instructions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable automatic GitHub reviews for a repository. 2. Open a PR, let the review finish, and push two new commits. 3. Inspect task messages and the native submitted envelopes. Before this fix, the policy and old requests repeat. ## What Changed - Store compact automatic event messages. Fetch the PR description through the existing metadata tool when needed. - Load review instructions from processed deliveries bound to the company, task, agent, and source comments. Preserve each admitted policy snapshot. - Use the existing verified native continuation path for complete GitHub text batches. Deliver configuration changes using a key over endpoint, PR conversation, revision, and instructions. - Keep full bootstrap input for fresh sessions and failed resume, including board follow-ups with no new GitHub event. Retain existing framing for incomplete batches, attachments, interactions, and recovery. - Keep the same configuration identity across automatic review, discussion, and automatic review. Coalesced requests use the last accepted request's admitted policy. - Add regression and database coverage. Update the execution contract and verification recipe. ## Verification - Red: the new event-size regression failed because policy and PR body repeated. The GitHub continuation regression failed because it returned no compact prompt. - Green: focused policy, continuation, native input, and adapter prompt tests passed (231 tests). Native resume/fresh-bootstrap cases passed (9 tests). - The signed-webhook/database case passed at `6296168253`. It checks configuration edits, queued older snapshots, coalesced policy selection, discussion continuity, board follow-ups, and company/task/agent/comment boundaries. The private PostgreSQL template used 12 connections because the host reached its semaphore limit with the default settings. - The earlier broad channel/session integration run passed 1,432 tests. Later review fixes invalidated that run. The latest focused database case passed after those fixes. - Reviewer regressions failed against the previous lookup, then passed with the fix: a mixed-revision batch delivered multiple policies, and a discussion lost the configuration identity. The board wake-to-rendered-prompt regression also failed before repair. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` passed on the final source. - Full local `pnpm test:run` exposed follow-up/fixture failures during development. Those cases are fixed and pass separately. The stale run was stopped after source edits. Full-suite validation for the final commit passed in CI. - All required CI checks passed for `6296168253`, including tests, typechecks, build, and clean public npm install checks. The two unrelated Storybook checks were skipped. - A live two-turn Codex smoke could not start: the local macOS sandbox helper rejected execution of the installed Codex 0.153.4 binary. No live GitHub/provider acceptance or deployment is claimed. ## Risks Skipping instructions is safe only after a verified checkpoint resume with the correct previous run. The full bootstrap remains available if resume fails. Changed or previously unknown configuration is sent again. Tests cover these cases. Tool authorization and publication checks still run under the current server policy. No database migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool use and code execution. The exact deployment model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. No delegated agents were used.

Connect and configure GitHub Copilot through Apps (#15705)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps and AI Connections store credentials and govern access to agent runtimes. > - Users need a supported saved-token connection and config values that survive save and reopen. > - The release must preserve saved-token access and task lifecycle guarantees. > - This pull request will connect Copilot through the normal Apps and AI Connections path. > - The benefit is a reviewable part of the Copilot production release. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15701 and #15703. Supersedes setup work in #15562. Base: #15703. Next: #15706. ## What Changed - Require configuration update authority before Copilot credential-bearing model discovery; default to the saved environment and preserve explicit selection for editors. - Keep Copilot discovery passive during reconnect reconciliation; refresh on explicit opening, account/environment changes and reconnect. - Add GitHub AI token connections with encrypted storage, ownership, grants and audit logging. - Keep repository access separate from Copilot runtime authentication. - Probe the selected environment without sending a model prompt and preserve authenticated model selection through save/reopen. - Keep fresh execution admission consistent with normal Copilot setup; persist task model choices without changing provider or permission policy. - Refresh authenticated models after reconnecting the same saved Copilot account, including recovery from a previous authentication error. - Apply the additive provider-default constraint migration through the normal generated migration workflow. ## Verification Runtime #15701 is merged at `d855e550ad8d2a267312983f26457aabf5393c3a`. History #15703 is merged at `df80616d98119cbf5abd40549794d9980a5fabf6`. Remaining source [`42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d) contains the four-file authorization repair. The remaining PR trees preserve six nonoverlapping files from the newer public mainline managed-settings fix and the CI-owned lockfile. No unrelated provider is enabled. The security finding is repaired: existing-agent discovery requires `agent_config:update` before connection selection or token resolution. The saved environment is the default. Authorized editors can select a prospective environment. Both denied board-viewer and agent-reader regressions fail on the original source. All49 route tests and server typecheck pass with the fix. Denied requests perform no connection selection, credential resolution or probe. Current-head security scans pass on both remaining PRs; the repaired thread is resolved. Copilot CLI1.0.88 and profile47 retain digest `sha256:55044aa235e88b3fe36ec8a556ee1e3382590870aab907e4462ef7d64af49cea`. The [qualification record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-qualification-v47.json) reports20/20 Product cells,154 assertions and7/7 protocol cases,46 assertions against frozen normal installed source `c2616370800f5f6df45246b0890ba35a7cd2faab`. The exact qualification model is `gpt-5.6-luna`. Every passing Product case confirms cleanup. Original failures remain recorded; automatic behavior retries are disabled. The route-only authorization repair changes no bound runtime/profile bytes and does not relabel the frozen campaign. The ordinary installed remote journey passed saved-token selection, model discovery, normal UI save/reopen, metadata-only Test, completed task, accepted receipt and exact19-byte browser download. An open model catalog caused no additional discovery requests during117seconds. Actual installed runtime smokes passed on macOS ARM64, macOS x64 under Rosetta and native Linux x64 on Daytona. Raw token browser entry was not exercised; encrypted connection creation used the normal API. The first Daytona file attempt timed out during delayed semantic dispatch; its precise stalled layer remains unresolved. Independent ordinary remote delivery and the other19 Product cells passed before one instrumented recheck passed8/8 with unchanged source, prompt, assertions and deadlines. No causal latency repair is claimed. Before the authorization repair, all four final PR heads passed required verify/E2E and fresh Greptile5/5 reviews with zero unresolved threads. Current-head CI/review is running for the two repaired heads. Local focused checks retain129 connection,59 runner,72 shared-eval and88 recovery/workspace passes, plus migration safety and token gates. The additive Copilot migration is361; released master history is preserved. [Cloud normal-package run39414239704](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39414239704) builds the pre-security source4f3f. All four native producers and Linux package assembly pass; the final clean installed consumers are finishing. All18 retained archives match their hashes;37,863 regular files contain zero selected credentials. That package does not contain the later route repair. The actual final published package must include it and pass the local/Daytona live canaries. The frozen Daytona image remains published and independently verified. No separate full-image scan is claimed. Docker builds run in the cloud. **Remaining:** current-head CI/review, setup and qualification merges, final publication, and ordinary local/Daytona canaries against the actual shipped package. The user explicitly authorizes the maintainer review override; CI remains a merge gate. No production deployment is claimed. Provider USD remains unknown and GitHub-attributed. ## Risks Bad credentials, missing entitlement, runtime installation and unavailable models must remain distinct failures. A connection must not adopt ambient credentials. The constraint migration changes accepted provider values, with no credential-storage migration. Current-master NewAgent fixture extraction is retained. Copilot cases use that shared support and test both passive discovery and explicit reconnect under the same setup lifecycle. The onboarding retry regression shares the component suite’s saved-connection, authenticated-model, draft, agent-list, hire and render lifecycle fixtures. Keeping it beside the existing onboarding failures makes adoption versus duplicate hire observable under the same lifecycle; this is the concrete cohesion reason for the existing large test file. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. Used for code changes, review and tool-assisted verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: derive startup warmth from per-layer reuse evidence (#16908)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Agent startup can reuse a lease, workspace, Runner, process, or session. > - A session ID can remain the same when other resources are new. > - The old cold/warm label did not show these separate decisions. > - This pull request records closed reuse receipts and derives labels from them. > - Reports now show partial reuse and missing evidence. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11685. That issue tracks a specific ACPX fingerprint repair. This change records reuse evidence across startup resources. It does not repeat that repair. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Startup labels in the operator trace and Product E2E reports. **Current behavior** A cached runtime or a continuous session can suggest a warm startup even when workspace staging or provider launch work occurs. **Proposed behavior** Record each layer's reuse decision and a closed reason. Record observed provider launch counts. Use `warm`, `cold`, `partial_reuse`, or `unknown` from those receipts. Keep old runs unknown when they have no receipts. ## What Changed - Add local run-log receipts for the lease, workspace, Runner, provider process, and provider session. - Count physical ACPX launches, including respawns. Preserve the reason for a new process. - Reuse native workspace adoption and session lifecycle evidence. Keep native and bridged remote provider-process reuse and launch counts unknown where physical evidence is absent. - Show the per-run summary in retained results and the dashboard. Keep missing legacy values explicit. - Set the legacy trace boolean only for fully evidenced cold or warm startup. Keep the operator OTLP gate. Add no first-party Telemetry. - Test full reuse, workspace invalidation, two direct provider launches with session continuity, and report generation. - Start the final diagnostic write without waiting for persistence. Keep lease cleanup independent of a stalled event sink. - Keep remote provider evidence unknown after runtime setup fails or the host relay starts twice. - Align a stale Pi support-test expectation with current master profile 28 and its suite fingerprint. Keep the qualification rules unchanged. ## Verification - Passed: all 319 runtime, startup-timing, reuse-summary, and native workspace-history tests. Disposable local Git tests used the native Git binary. - Passed on the current commit: all 2,768 Runner E2E support tests across 128 files. This includes report and history tests for generated HTML and normalized JSON. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck`. - Passed on `df60f8dbdbfcb6d80c84cd3bf563f8d58b2f9f03`: all PR CI gates, including repository typecheck and build, all test shards, and browser tests. Both automated reviews are 5/5. GitHub reports 55 successful checks, one neutral review, and two skipped Storybook checks. - The first server shard run failed because an unchanged workspace-runtime fixture did not accept health connections within 10 seconds. Its isolated local test and the single failed-jobs rerun both pass. This establishes recovery; the cause of the first timeout remains unknown. - Passed in the hosted source run on this exact commit: recursive typecheck, token gates, the large Runner E2E typecheck, Runner E2E unit tests, and build. The retained `source.txt` matches this PR head. - The extra unsharded `pnpm test:run` reached its 60-minute limit (exit 124). It has no complete verdict. The broad workflow therefore reports failure. No assertion-failure marker appears in the retained partial log. Full-suite acceptance uses the passing canonical PR CI partitions. A read-only inventory check found no gaps across 1,023 general server files, 161 serialized suites, and 20 workspace projects. The separate chat/native Runner lanes cover the excluded server files. No tests or timeouts were weakened. The local environment has 4 GiB of memory. Use CI for the large Runner E2E typecheck. - The initial report tests failed because the harness could not resolve package imports from the repository root. Relative source imports fixed that failure. - The first broad local run had timeouts from the environment Git bridge. Native Git resolves the ancestry timeout and all runtime tests pass. The added report fixture lacked its required screenshot; the corrected report tests pass. A stale master assertion expected Pi profile 27, while the generated profile is 28. Updated its expectation and exact suite fingerprint; all 78 targeted support tests pass. The clean full support run passes all 2,768 tests. - The three review regression cases failed before repair. They showed remote counts of zero and two, and a completed run that waited for the final diagnostic sink. They now pass. The stalled-sink case keeps persistence pending while the run returns, both bridge stops run once, and the staging lock map becomes empty. - Hosted evidence for this commit: [source verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416), [retained command logs and status table](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416/artifacts/12228829282). All listed commands exited zero except the incomplete unsharded test command described above. - The physical-launch test drives the executor's spawn callback twice. The native workspace test uses real Git repositories and verifies reuse and invalidation. These are deterministic tests, not a paid provider qualification campaign. ## Risks - Consumers must handle `partial_reuse` and `unknown`. Partial evidence no longer produces a legacy cold/warm boolean. - Native and remote bridged provider process evidence is still unavailable on some paths. The report shows unknown values for those paths. - Receipt emission is best effort. Missing receipts reduce confidence in a label and must not change execution or settlement. - No schema migration, first-party Telemetry event, or endpoint default changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, used reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The exact provider model ID and context window are not exposed to this session. The existing implementation checkpoint was preserved from the earlier agent run. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(recovery): recover retained workspaces before saved messages (#16906)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stopped run can leave useful files in its original sandbox. > - The server keeps that sandbox when it cannot confirm file copyback. > - The task can then save new user input but offers no safe way to recover the files. > - A retry of the old agent turn can repeat work that already finished. > - This pull request recovers files through the existing workspace owner and delivers only saved human input. > - The user can recover a task without certifying infrastructure facts or losing completed work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16883 and #16835 for publication receipts and verified process termination. Related: #16478 clears stale holds after copyback already succeeded. This change performs the missing export and records its proof. #16901 manages the main GitHub response comment and does not perform workspace repair. **What happened?** A failed run retained its workspace. A later user message stayed saved behind a file-repair hold. The task asked the user to verify process termination and file recovery but offered no repair control. Sending a message could show an optimistic Working state and move the task to Todo before admission succeeded. **Expected behavior** The harness should recover the original files when it can prove ownership and termination. It should preserve newer edits and completed operations. Only waiting user input may start another turn. Missing evidence must keep the source held with a specific explanation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Interrupt a sandbox run before workspace finalization succeeds. 2. Retain its exact allocation and save a user follow-up. 3. Observe the file-repair hold and missing end-user repair path. ## What Changed - Add source-bound background recovery for native and legacy runs. An accepted native result is not required. - Share the physical copyback lock and durable owner. Resume only the exact stopped allocation, export files, verify persistence and obtain a fresh stop receipt. - Persist retry limits and idempotent requests on the existing recovery record. Limit each server to two background exports. Add an indexed candidate scan and a separate cleanup obligation. - Add a task-editor recovery endpoint. Deny agents and viewers. Reject caller-supplied stop or repair claims. - Deliver waiting human input once through ordinary admission. Preserve pause, approval, budget and assignment gates. Require historical conversational-adapter evidence for legacy-to-Runner continuation. - Include exact GitHub publication receipts in continuation context. Preserve unknown effects and the original failed run. - Show observed recovery progress, a transient-failure retry action and specific service blockers. Keep saved messages visible. Suppress false startup feedback and implicit Todo promotion behind a file hold. Hide unavailable workspace links. - Update execution semantics, capability maps and production-component stories. ## Verification - Red: the original read model failed the new recovery-progress assertion; the other 23 checks in that file passed. - Passed: recovery regressions with 28 cases with real PostgreSQL, files, tar and Git operations. Lifecycle provider calls are controlled test boundaries. Coverage includes native/legacy export, concurrent owners, rollback after export, interrupted archive export with a new database connection, lost replies, historical discovery, durable retry limits, separate cleanup and saved-input delivery. The actual candidate query uses its partial index with 3,000 unrelated history rows. A first automatic repair can bind verified old-controller stop proof without an accepted native result. Review also reproduced and fixed export-only continuation and cleanup lost after a committed repair. Cleanup remains discoverable without waiting input and after task reconciliation. - Passed: two GitHub integration cases verify that continuation context carries the existing publication receipt and does not write another response. Company and task boundaries are checked. - Passed: 293 continuation, workspace-sync, platform-receipt and OpenAPI checks. After file repair, actual dispatch retains pause, cancellation, approval, real budget-policy and assignment gates. - Passed: 174 route checks, including editor admission, agent/viewer denial and rejection of fabricated repair claims. - Passed: 351 task detail, workspace properties and comment-reopen checks after updating the new read boundaries and asynchronous workspace-link expectations. Two new route cases keep held tasks Blocked when a comment is saved. - Passed: 265 task-thread and recovery-notice checks. The broader continuation suite also passed; its new legacy migration case first exposed a gap that the focused recovery suite now covers. - Passed after rebase: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later master merge adds an unrelated permission migration; recovery migration generation and safety checks passed after the merge. - Passed: token gates, module boundaries, map structure and migration checks. The recovery index is migration 0360 after current master. - Browser: inspected the production recovery component and its retry-to-queued transition with fixture data. The first dev dependency load failed; a reload after optimization resolved it. This is UI evidence, not a live provider recovery claim. - Every test shard passed on final commit `bbbc09efb4`. The older local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the complete CI test matrix passed. Local full typecheck and production build passed. The first CI build compiled and booted, then lost its runner during the clean public npm-install check. An isolated retry passed the build, production boot and clean public npm-install verification. - Greptile reviewed final commit `bbbc09efb4` at 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - The change is not deployed. Hosted recovery remains unverified until the served revision includes this change. ## Risks - Recovery crosses process, provider and persistence boundaries. Missing or mismatched ownership, stop, descriptor or file evidence keeps the hold. It never selects a replacement allocation or silently starts over. - File recovery does not certify external action outcomes or authorize replay. New input still uses normal execution admission. - Historical sources without sufficient durable evidence can remain blocked. Destructive reconstruction stays separate. - The index migration is idempotent. It changes no task data. Snapshot pruning follows repository policy. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with code execution and browser tools. `gpt-6-astra` assisted earlier investigation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: add one-click retry for restricted workspace setup (#16909)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks need a clear way to resume after a setup failure. > - A shared repository can contain another task that the assigned agent cannot read. > - Paperclip correctly stops before the agent starts, but the user must then understand workspace settings to recover. > - This pull request gives that failure a single Retry button and selects a clean copy of the configured repository through normal admission. > - The task keeps its assigned agent and execution settings, while access checks and existing work remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #16895 classifies the restricted source failure. This change adds the user recovery action. #16906 handles retained files after execution; this change handles a setup failure before execution starts. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Recovery of a task whose shared repository includes a task workspace the assigned agent cannot read. **Current behavior** The task stops before provider work and asks the user to understand workspace choices or access grants. **Proposed behavior** Show Retry above the task message box, independent of loaded conversation history. One click requests one attempt using a clean checkout of the configured remote. Show Retrying while the request is pending. Show an error only if the request fails. **Reason and benefit** The user can resume work without understanding repository isolation or changing access to another task. **Breaking changes** None. The recovery source value is server-owned. The public workspace selection request does not accept it. No migration is required. ## What Changed - Add one Retry control above the composer in both task conversation views. It stays available when an older notice is outside the loaded comment pages. - Bind recovery to the latest failed run, current assignee, and recorded proof that provider work did not start. - Use the existing atomic recovery route and pending workspace selection. Normal admission clears the old session and creates the isolated checkout. - Choose a fresh task-owned branch for recovery, including fixed project branches, existing task branches, and adapter branch overrides. Preserve the model, environment, setup commands, pending user workspace choices, previous files, and all execution gates. - Update execution documentation and both workspace maps. ## Verification - Passed all 461 tests in the eight affected database, Git, HTTP, workspace binding, and conversation suites after the review fixes. An additional 292 tests passed after the final compatibility fixes, including IssueDetail and recovery action routing. - Concurrent HTTP retries produce one wakeup. Paused projects and runs that started provider work reject recovery without changing the workspace. - Real Git tests exclude private files, private commits, and unpublished original files from the clean checkout, preserve the original, and exercise reuse, cleanup, and reopen. - Verified in a running local app: a task failed twice, displayed only Retry, and reached Done after one click. A second browser test put the failure notice behind 501 newer comments and used a fixed project branch. Retry stayed visible and the task reached Done. The credential-free process worker used the selected checkout and wrote its result there. This does not claim a live model-provider run. - The first manual fixture lacked a responsible-user membership and failed after successful workspace recovery. Corrected the fixture, retained that failure evidence, and verified the full flow with ordinary authorization. - Full typecheck, build, token gates, and map checks passed. The full local suite was stopped after review changed its source during execution; current-head CI provides the complete suite result. - An earlier unrelated peer-comment read test hit a socket hangup. The next complete affected-suite run passed; the first failure is retained in local evidence. - Current-head CI hit an unchanged runner credential-concurrency test failure. That lane passed on the preceding commit, and all 42 credential tests passed locally. The original failed job is retained; the one-time rerun passed. All latest-head CI checks are green (55 success, 2 skipped, 1 neutral), and Greptile is 5/5 with both review threads resolved. ## Risks - A remote repository outage can still prevent the next attempt. Retry does not grant access or copy unpublished files from the old checkout. - Recovery accepts only the latest recorded pre-provider failure and preserves normal execution gates. This limits duplicate work and stale recovery requests. - No database migration, dependency, or lockfile change. - The first review found fixed-branch retry loops and dependence on paginated notice history. Both had failing regressions before the fixes and now pass targeted tests and the combined browser journey. - Full CI then caught assumptions about missing run evidence and unrelated recovery actions. The final changes tolerate absent evidence and scope the new lookup to board-owned actions with valid run IDs. The previously failing suites now pass locally. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification.
