feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer work. > - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion, workspace, and review policy. > - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between agents. > - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access, budgets, and completion gates. > - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and read-only case pages. > - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when work can run and finish. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its own running task. **Proposed solution** Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase, retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`, `update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to `done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted. **Alternatives considered** Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph, or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays removed. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review, budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain authoritative. Related work: [ordinary handoff wake recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release barrier. ## What Changed - Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations. - Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each returning agent's own session and the task's workspace. - Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership, including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting. - Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside retained task/project permissions. - Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts, and current source authorization on every page. - Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls, compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in Audit. - Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile. - Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task threads. - Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount behavior. ## Verification The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614) passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549), with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a required branch check. No check result was overridden. Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008 API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit. On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests** executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files: - 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout. - 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure, a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a fresh worker after the process group stops. - 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts. - 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests. - 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool integration tests. - 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict protocol-contract tests. The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master `9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking; unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior. These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the browser-only retry did not rerun these suites. The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects. The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`. The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged. The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10 tests. The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the 194 critical tests or as live provider proof. All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes. Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review later identified unusable document references with generic API tools disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated HTTP tests address that finding. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped, including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard also passed after the fixture repair. A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6 USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on `6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable. Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48 identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json). This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix, installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout. Preserved CI failures and retries: - On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that shard; no source or timeout changed. - On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19 UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all 32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head, `7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries. - On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease. Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all 41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries. - On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard passed. - On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit. Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed. The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify the original blocking transaction. ## Risks - Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently of scratch setup. - Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and uncertain provider termination. - Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions. This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing task cannot preserve that boundary. - Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill. Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff. - Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access. - Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page. Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old snapshot. - Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy review or approval gates. - This is a large, cross-cutting PR. The maintainer requested one PR for the whole feature; the commits separate data, runtime, UI, and qualification work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use, code execution, and delegated code review. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were not exposed in the session. Live fixture agents used the explicitly configured provider model recorded in their test evidence. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): load recent tasks with bounded summaries (#16851)
Replace passive recent-task detail reads with bounded, authorized summaries. Keep account isolation, stored history, task actions, and live recovery behavior. Overlap access checks with shell settings and avoid duplicate session and health reads on the first healthy socket opening. Retain domain reconciliation. Add focused coverage and local performance evidence. Isolate the existing cache capacity test from entry expiry on slow CI runners. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: make multiplayer task toasts personal (#16153)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A company can have several human users and shared agents. > - Live task events currently produce toasts for any user who can read the task. > - This makes unrelated work interrupt other users. > - This pull request checks each user's task participation before it permits a toast. > - Users receive relevant task notifications while company views continue to refresh. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Company task activity and agent failures produce noisy toasts for users who have no involvement in the task. **Expected behavior** A task qualifies when the viewer created it, commented on it, is its assigned user, deliberately acted on it under the Mine rules, or has an explicit user mention in its description or a non-deleted comment. Viewing, agent ownership, responsible-user attribution, and parent participation alone do not qualify. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign in as two users in the same company. 2. Have the second user create and update a task that does not involve the first user. 3. Observe a task toast in the first user's company view before this fix. The duplicate PR search found no existing change for personal task-toast eligibility. ## What Changed - Extract the existing Mine participation predicate without changing Mine behavior. - Compute task eligibility from stored tasks, comments, and run associations after WebSocket access checks. Use an exact indexed comment-mention lookup with `LIMIT 1`. - Add optional `toastEligible` metadata to each viewer's event copy. Keep it off the shared event bus. - Require eligibility for live task activity and task-linked run errors. Suppress generic agent errors. - Continue cache updates for quiet events. Refetch visible comments when authenticated events omit hydration details. Ignore stale socket callbacks after account or company changes. - Document toast semantics and add feature-map and agent-access-map coverage. - Add persisted-data, socket, UI, and authenticated browser regression coverage. ## Verification - Final commit: `1dc4f9402c5883744738cfe236ad00fa0bb5ca4c`. - All 55 current-head checks passed. Two Storybook checks were skipped because this change does not affect that coverage. - Greptile approved this exact commit with 5/5. The security scan passed. Both review threads are resolved. - Local `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, and `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - The focused socket/UI suite passed 123 tests. The persisted eligibility suite passed 9 tests, including long history, exact viewer matching, and regex escaping. The existing Mine service suite previously passed 140 tests. - The named browser case `task toasts follow personal involvement in multiplayer` passed against the final commit in an isolated authenticated instance. It used two real sessions, real WebSocket delivery, and persisted tasks, edits, comments, and mentions. It verified quiet unrelated activity, viewing alone, first and historical mentions, own-action suppression, visible-task suppression, and live cache refresh. - A prior-head server shard passed its single rerun after a fixture-cleanup deadlock. The final-head CI run passed without a rerun. - The broad local run remained in progress when CI completed the full test suite. Local focused checks and CI provide the completed test evidence. ## Risks - This intentionally reduces live notifications. A new client stays quiet against an older server that omits eligibility. - Eligibility queries add work to live event delivery. A lookup failure suppresses the toast and still delivers the authorized event. - Deleted mentions cease to qualify unless another participation rule applies. Historical comment authorship retains the existing Mine behavior. - No database migration or notification-settings change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-6 assisted with implementation, tests, documentation, and PR preparation. It used repository tools, shell commands, and browser automation. The runtime did not expose an exact backend revision or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: show notification actors and avatars, and hide self-actions (#15695)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - Task notifications tell people who changed a task. > - The authenticated event stream removed the actor ID and type. > - The UI then showed “Someone” and could not hide the viewer's own actions. > - Toasts also had no field or renderer for an actor avatar. > - This pull request keeps authorized actor identity and shows the existing person or agent avatar. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Authenticated task notifications showed “Someone.” A person's own actions could produce notifications. Toasts showed a colored dot instead of the actor's avatar. **Expected behavior** Show the actor's name and avatar. Hide notifications for the viewer's own task actions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign in to an authenticated instance. 2. View a page other than the task being changed. 3. Create or update a task, or add a comment. 4. Observe the generic name and the notification for your own action. ## What Changed - Keep actor IDs and types after the existing task access check. - Read only the actor's name, photo, or agent appearance from company-scoped records. Do not forward task details or comments. - Supply names and avatars even when the browser has no cached directory. - Carry actor data through the toast provider. Use the existing person and agent avatar components. - Identify the local trusted viewer so that self-actions are also hidden there. - Add tests for authenticated event delivery, hidden tasks, private details, self-actions, names, agent appearance, and avatar rendering. ## Verification - Passed: 71 UI tests across LiveUpdatesProvider, ToastContext, and ToastViewport. - Passed: 11 server tests across live-events-toast and live-events-ws. The added tests assert the actual SQL filters and bound company, actor, and active-membership values. - Passed: UI typecheck (`cd ui && ../node_modules/.bin/tsc -b`). - Passed: UI production build (`cd ui && node_modules/.bin/vite build`). - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check`. - The full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` could not complete because this environment has no Rust `cargo` executable. - The full `pnpm test:run` did not complete. Broad validation exceeded the 4 GB sandbox memory limit. The full test run was stopped; the focused tests were then run successfully. - Manual review: use two signed-in people, make task changes from each, and confirm only the other person's toast appears. Repeat with an agent and check its avatar. ### Avatar screenshots Production toast components with sample identities. These isolated browser renders cover the person image and the agent custom avatar in both themes. ## Risks - Task toast events add a small profile read per authorized viewer. Other task actions retain IDs without a profile read. - Deleted or unavailable identities use an ID-based label. People without a photo use initials. - Access checks and task-detail filtering remain in place. There is no database migration. - All CI checks passed on the first commit, including full typecheck, build, test shards, and browser suites. The updated commit must pass CI again. The PR is ready for review. CI and Greptile must pass on the updated commit. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with code editing and tool execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed to this run. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites listed above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (behavior and validation are recorded above; no command or configuration change) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat: add personal primary agents (#15470)
Add a personal primary agent per company and user. Initialize it from the first human-created agent, expose profile-only switching with confirmation, and use it after recent choices for task and Chat defaults. Persist authenticated preferences, preserve lifecycle and membership rules, keep selections out of shared audit events, and document the API contract. Include the reviewed Storybook surfaces and regression coverage for concurrent choices, onboarding, cross-device updates, and browser journeys. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): make pull request review waits visible (#15375)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people supervise agent work and review its outputs. > - A task can wait for a human to review a pull request while an agent schedules checks. > - The PR work product and detected external links use separate display paths. > - A private PR can disappear from the useful sidebar view when its provider lookup fails. > - The monitor countdown says when the next check runs but omits the saved review request. > - This change shows the saved PR and requested review in the task's existing surfaces. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task kept checking whether a private GitHub PR had merged. Its work product requested board review, but the Properties sidebar used detected external objects instead. The PR URL was stored only in metadata, which the PR refresh path did not read. The composer showed a generic monitor countdown with no PR link or review action. **Expected behavior** Show saved PR links even if provider access fails. During a GitHub monitor wait, make outstanding review requests visible with the next check time and a status-check action. Stop requesting review when a PR merges or closes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Register a PR work product with `reviewState: needs_board_review` and its URL in `metadata.url`. 2. Schedule an external-service monitor for GitHub. 3. Open the task with external-object lookup unavailable or unable to access the private repository. 4. Inspect Properties and the composer wait strip. Related work: #14469 added rich artifact cards. #8759 addresses attention on monitored task blockers. This change uses the existing work products and monitor action; it adds no blocker or approval mechanism. ## What Changed - Show saved PRs in Properties, including metadata-only links, independent of external-object availability. - Deduplicate equivalent GitHub PR URLs while preserving the saved navigation link, and put explicit review requests first. - Keep provider status and freshness on the combined PR row; keep private PR links usable when lookup fails. - Show the saved PR review request above the composer and in the existing monitor banner during a GitHub monitor wait. - Label the existing monitor action `Check status` and show check failures inline. - Suppress review prompts for merged, closed, or archived PRs even if their review flag is stale. - Refresh PR metadata using `metadata.url` and the existing `repository` alias. - Share saved work-product reads across the thread, Properties, and Artifacts. Refresh GitHub in a separate query and enrich only matching PR versions. - Start a fresh saved-row request on live invalidation so late provider responses cannot hide new artifacts or changed review requests. - Cover stalled GitHub lookups in both panels so refresh latency cannot hide saved work. - Scope monitor-check mutation state to the task so failures and late responses do not leak across navigation. - Refresh GitHub status when the displayed run finishes, including when saved PR rows have not changed. - Clarify that PR review and external release handoffs need a saved human-input interaction with an agent assigned for continuation; a flag, monitor, or handoff comment alone does not create that card. ## Verification - 386 tests pass across eleven affected UI and server suites on `184c7d8746`. Regressions cover saved links, provider status, cold-cache loading, panel reopening, monitor errors during navigation, and live updates during provider refresh. - Three live-update regressions and two run-completion regressions fail before their fixes and pass afterward. These tests use the real API client's GET coalescing and abort handling. - Full repository typecheck and build passed on the merged parent `1a49112dd2`. The latest UI changes pass UI typecheck and token gates; CI also verifies the latest build. Capability contract/inventory checks pass. - Storybook build and browser checks passed before the query race fix. Browser checks cover desktop and 390px mobile review waits, plus video, mixed-file, and empty artifact galleries after background refresh. - The earlier full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped under disk pressure. It reported failures outside the changed suites; an isolated skill-cache run reproduced three existing macOS permission failures. The full local suite was not rerun for this follow-up. - Latest-head CI passes on `184c7d8746`, including the browser shards and canary dry run. Apex is 5/5 with no actionable findings and no unresolved threads. All eight reported findings are addressed. ## Risks - This uses saved PR review state. When GitHub access fails, the saved state can remain stale until the agent updates it. The link remains visible and the status check remains available. - `Check status` wakes the existing monitor owner. It does not merge a PR, accept an approval, or mark the task done. - No schema, permissions, or scheduler behavior changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code editing, and test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — 277 affected tests - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add secondary navigation for agent chat (#14706)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent Chat already provides a persistent conversation with each agent. > - Its shortcuts share the primary navigation and do not give chats a dedicated place. > - People need to find agents, start a chat, and switch conversations without moving the page layout. > - This pull request adds a secondary chat sidebar and a landing page around the existing chat surface. > - The same conversation, composer, history, and context panel remain in use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13283 and #13420. This extends the existing experimental Agent Chat navigation after review of the component and page stories. It supports the CEO Chat roadmap item through the existing task-backed conversation model. **Subsystem affected** The board UI and the company-scoped conversation list API. **Current behavior** Chat shortcuts sit inside the primary navigation. There is no dedicated landing page with a searchable conversation list. A separate landing header also moves the sidebar when an agent is selected. **Proposed behavior** Show a Chat entry in primary navigation. Keep a searchable agent sidebar beside the chat content. The plus button starts or reopens the current user's single conversation with that agent. Keep the header and sidebar in the same positions before and after selection. **Reason and benefit** People can find agents and return to persistent conversations without leaving the chat area or creating duplicate chats. **Breaking changes** The experimental chat navigation changes. Explicitly adding a chat now resolves its conversation immediately. Direct visits to unused agent chat URLs remain read-only. The existing per-agent routes and message contracts remain compatible. No database migration is required. ## What Changed - Add an account- and company-scoped conversation list endpoint with the existing access checks, feature gate, and OpenAPI entry. - Add the live secondary sidebar, landing page, avatars, search, loading states, errors, and retry controls. - Make the agent picker wait for chat creation and display failures. Existing agents reopen the same conversation. A dismissed selection cannot close a reopened picker or navigate over a newer choice. - Preserve recent-activity ordering and terminated agents’ chat history. Scope live list refreshes to the current user’s conversation events. A failed historical-agent lookup leaves healthy chats usable and offers a focused retry. - Keep the sidebar and header stable across chat routes. Keep mobile selection in the navigation drawer. - Use the production components in Storybook. Prepare the theme and mobile viewport before mounting the page to avoid the startup flash. - Update product documentation, the design guide, and navigation tests. Replace old browser expectations for stars and recent shortcuts with persistent conversation and layout coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass after rebasing onto master. - Focused UI tests pass, including 105 sidebar, picker, and live-update checks after review fixes. The 33 conversation service and route tests and 10 OpenAPI checks pass, including ownership, feature gating, and concurrent creation. - The full local test run passed 14,163 server tests before three environment or timeout failures. The embedded Postgres startup, connector socket, and native runner failures all passed direct reruns. - Browser test-drive verification covers a real provider reply, add and reopen, persisted history after reload, no-match search recovery, mobile drawer dismissal, and top-aligned context panels. - Browser measurements confirm that the sidebar has the same position and dimensions on the landing page and an agent conversation. - Storybook builds and its add-and-reopen interaction passes. - The revised browser regression passes locally against a freshly built throwaway instance. It covers stable sidebar geometry, add/reopen uniqueness, drafts, search, history, and terminated-agent history after reload. The full CI browser suite also passes. - Latest commit `b323577d9523180104df4000eaceedea2772608c`: all 54 completed checks pass, including the complete server/workspace/browser suites, aggregate verification, build/typecheck, security scans, and canary packaging. The two Storybook jobs are skipped by their workflow conditions. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36714052050). - Greptile reviewed this same commit at 5/5 with no remaining actionable findings; all review threads are resolved. - Reviewer path: enable Agent Chat, click Chat, use plus to choose an agent, send a message, switch away, and reopen that agent. One conversation must remain, with its history intact. ## Risks - The new sidebar lists persistent conversations instead of starred and recent shortcuts. - Chat creation is asynchronous. Errors stay visible in the picker, and delayed responses cannot navigate into a previous company or account. - The shell adjustment is limited to chat routes and preserves the existing conversation implementation. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The session does not expose the exact API model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #123` / `Refs #123` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ci): stabilize chat startup and close the initial live-update gap (#13895)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Browser tests check chat state across navigation, reload, and agent runs. > - Runtime tests check that a service is ready before Paperclip publishes its address. > - CI for #13891 failed in these paths, then passed attempt 3 with the same code. > - The browser traces stopped during development asset startup. A separate sidebar assertion used an unstable focus path through the rich editor. > - This PR gives browser tests fresh built assets and a direct keyboard path to the star button. It adds service-worker reload coverage under CPU throttling. > - A later browser failure exposed a real reload race: comments can change between the first query and the first live subscription. The UI now refreshes active queries when that subscription opens. > - Runtime fixtures now have separate registry state and better failure evidence. The readiness deadline remains unchanged. > - A later CI run exposed a wall-clock backoff assertion and three authorization cases sharing one test lifecycle. The PR anchors the assertion to transport time and separates the cases. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13891. Related runtime ownership and cleanup work: #11791, #11389, #11278. Evidence: [original CI run, attempt 3](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35910335089/attempts/3). Attempt 3 passed both affected shards without code changes. This PR is separate from the wake-payload change, which has since merged. | Failure | Diagnosis and classification | | --- | --- | | Sidebar blank page and retry text missing after reload in CI | Both traces show a blank document before React startup. Vite connects, but the failing page makes no application API requests. The service worker forwards the unbundled development module graph. The retry response is already stored and its process-adapter run succeeded before reload. This places the failure in browser bootstrap, not wake payload or reply persistence. The exact reason the development module graph stopped is not established by the retained trace. The harness now serves built assets, and the new test covers startup and controlled reload at 4x CPU throttling. | | Star opacity remains zero on macOS | Reproduced on unchanged master `f55759942b`. The old test clicked the rich editor, focused the star, then used Tab and Shift+Tab. An instrumented baseline run captured the sequence: Tab moved from the star to the next sidebar link, then the editor bundle called `focus()` on its contenteditable before Shift+Tab. That key reached the composer, where it is a work-mode shortcut. This confirms a pending editor selection update stole focus; it was not the browser skipping sidebar buttons. The assertion did not prove the star retained focus. The test now moves the pointer away, focuses the preceding sidebar link, presses Tab once, and asserts both actual focus and opacity. This is test synchronization and keyboard traversal, not a demonstrated CSS defect. | | Runtime readiness exceeds 10 seconds | The old error only says `fetch failed`. There is no child startup output in that failure, so it cannot distinguish slow process startup from a refused or stalled probe. It passed unchanged locally and took 3.416 seconds in attempt 3. Resource contention is plausible but unproved. This PR does not claim a proven historical runtime root cause: it isolates fixture registry/log files, checks ports before spawn and after stop, checks live backends at publication, and preserves transport errors, probe count, elapsed time, and fixture startup timestamps for the next occurrence. | | Later CI: recovery reply disappears after reload | Product synchronization bug, distinct from the blank-page bootstrap failure. Reproduced locally with a trace: the comments request started at `21:56:07.443`, the server saved the reply at `.520`, and the first live subscription started at `.541`. The reload fetched a successful run and its complete log, but missed the comment event. The provider refreshed after reconnects only. It now refreshes active queries on the first connection too. A deterministic regression test fails before the fix. No browser assertion was changed. | | Later CI: Slack backoff and authorization tests | The 30-second backoff assertion required more than 25 seconds to remain when it read the saved action. CI spent 10.311 seconds in the test, exceeding that five-second allowance. A local six-second read delay reproduces the failure; the new transport-anchored lower and upper bounds pass the same fault injection. The neighbouring authorization test ran three independent fixtures in one test and timed out at 15 seconds. Each case now has its own fixture cleanup and the normal per-test deadline, so earlier cases do not remain active during later global worker sweeps. No specific production slow call was established. | | Self-hosted runner loses communication or shuts down | The original lost-communication failure has no assertion. On final-head [attempt 1](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35925901613/attempts/1), Build, Runner Vitest 1/2, and chat 2/3 ran on three separate fleet instances. All received a runner shutdown signal at `22:04:55 UTC`, within 35 milliseconds, then cancellation. Server shard 6/12 received the same shutdown signal one minute later. All four were Spot `m7i-flex.xlarge` instances in `us-east-1a`. No test assertion or build error preceded those stops. This is infrastructure interruption; the reason the fleet stopped the runners is not available in job logs. | ## What Changed - Build the browser fixture UI into the static server's preferred directory, `server/ui-dist`, and disable Vite middleware. Ignore these generated assets. Start the source CLI directly from the repository root, as required by the CLI invocation safety contract. - Keep all existing chat assertions. Add first takeover and three service-worker-controlled reloads under CPU throttling. Assert that the page uses built module assets and that opening it creates no chat task. - Use forward keyboard traversal from the Zeta link to its star. Check focus before checking the reveal style. - Give each runtime exposure test a temporary Paperclip home and restore environment state after process cleanup. - Check that reserved ports are free before spawn, serve the fixture response before exposure, and become free after stop. - Include the nested fetch error, probe count, and elapsed time in readiness failures. Add a unit test for this diagnostic contract. - Refresh active queries when the first live connection opens, covering events missed during initial page loading. Keep reconnect toast suppression unchanged. - Measure Slack retry timing from the transport attempt and recovery completion. This checks the full provider-requested delay without spending a small wall-clock allowance on unrelated processing. - Run each Slack authorization-revocation scenario as a separate test, with cleanup between cases. All assertions remain. - Document the browser fixture's build and serving mode. No configured assertion deadline, readiness deadline, retry count, or skip was added. ## Verification - Final-head [Linux CI, attempt 2](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35925901613/attempts/2): **green**. All 52 check runs passed; two conditional checks were skipped. The legacy Snyk status also passed. No pending or failed checks remain. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed again after the final UI fix. - Focused runtime suites: 38 passed, 3 existing platform skips. - CLI invocation safety suite: 39 passed. - Slack timing negative control: inserting a six-second delay before reading the saved action fails the old assertion. All four revised authorization/backoff cases pass with that same delay. The diagnostic delay is not committed. - Live update suites: 92 passed, including the new regression. UI typecheck and token gates passed. - Recovery browser negative control: the unchanged tests reproduced the missing reply (1 failed, 9 passed). After the first-connection fix, all six recovery paths passed twice (12 passed). Browser assertions and deadlines are unchanged. - Server typecheck passed after the Slack test adjustment. - `GITHUB_WORKFLOW=PR pnpm test:run:general -- --group general-chat --shard-index 0 --shard-count 3`: 342 passed. The other 682 tests belong to the remaining shards; collection verified exact coverage. - Final direct-source CLI launch: all five chat session tests passed. - `PAPERCLIP_E2E_PORT=32993 PAPERCLIP_PLAYWRIGHT_CHANNEL=chrome pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/agent-chat-sessions.spec.ts --repeat-each=3`: 15 passed, including nine controlled reloads at 4x CPU throttling. - `GITHUB_WORKFLOW=PR pnpm test:run:general -- --group general-server-without-chat --shard-index 10 --shard-count 12`: 55 files passed, 867 tests passed, 21 existing skips. An earlier run could not initialize PostgreSQL because this Mac exhausted its System V shared-memory slots. After reclaiming the orphaned segment from this task's stopped browser server, the full shard passed. - On final commit `1f1fafc08d`, [browser 4/8](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35925901613/job/107400837947) passed all 16 tests; [browser 8/8](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35925901613/job/107400838155) passed all 23 tests; [server 11/12](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35925901613/job/107400838328) passed 887 tests with one existing skip. The readiness lifecycle case took 1.842 seconds. Chat 1/3 also passed. All four jobs interrupted by runner shutdowns passed unchanged on their single rerun. - Greptile reviewed `1f1fafc08d`: **5/5**, with no unresolved comments. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and stopped after confirming failures outside this patch: a sibling `skills` directory shadows bundled Slack/AgentMail skills; macOS rejects rename of read-only skill-cache directories (`EACCES`, also reproduced in an isolated filesystem probe); and the host exhausts PostgreSQL System V shared-memory slots. Focused reruns confirmed these limits. The complete Linux CI run is the repository-wide verification; the full local run is not green. - Baseline evidence: the original sidebar test failed on unchanged master; a development-mode run at 4x CPU throttling passed six selected cases, so CPU pressure alone did not reproduce the CI bootstrap stall. ## Risks - Default browser tests now exercise the shipped static UI. They no longer implicitly cover Vite middleware or HMR; use the development server for those checks. - The new browser startup test uses Chromium CDP, matching the only configured browser project. - Opening a live subscription now causes one active-query refresh to close the initial event gap. This adds startup API reads but no recurring poll. - Runtime behavior and deadlines are unchanged except for error details. The historical readiness stall remains unconfirmed; a green rerun alone cannot establish its cause. - Local verification runs on macOS. The runtime lifecycle checks also passed on Linux CI. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The session identifies the model family as GPT-6; an exact served model ID and context window size are not exposed. Used reasoning, repository inspection, shell tools, code editing, and test execution. No subagents were used. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #123` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — targeted suites passed; full local host limits are listed above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: stop repeated notifications for finalized run failures (#13739)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Native run reconciliation repairs saved execution outcomes after
interruptions.
> - The sweep also visits runs whose final results are already
committed.
> - An unchanged failed run still received a new status delivery ID on
every sweep.
> - The browser treated each delivery as a new failure after its short
duplicate window expired.
> - This pull request makes unchanged projections a no-op and suppresses
repeated or historical run toasts.
> - Operators receive fresh failure alerts without repeated alerts for
old work.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
An old failed run repeatedly produced failure toasts while the browser
remained open. The task could already be cancelled. Reconciliation
rewrote the same failed outcome and queued another status broadcast.
**Expected behavior**
An unchanged committed run must not queue a new status notification.
Repeated deliveries must still refresh cached state without another
toast.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Finalize a native run with a failed result and successful workspace
finalization.
2. Deliver its pending execution status and cancel its task.
3. Replay finalization and status delivery on each periodic sweep.
4. Observe another failure broadcast for every sweep before this fix.

fix: recover authentication and browser connection failures (#13724)
fix: recover authentication and browser connection failures Include connect timeouts in the bounded retry policy for idempotent actor synchronization. Handle WebSocket constructor failures through existing reconnect paths and preserve HTTP polling while realtime is unavailable. Refresh visible company queries until the socket recovers and clear all fallback timers on hiding or unmount. Verify 172 focused tests, server/UI typechecks, UI build, and design token gates. Full workspace build/typecheck require the unavailable Rust toolchain; the full test run is tracked separately. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: create company skills from runner tasks (#13538)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Runner gives agents tools to change company resources. > - Users need agents to save reusable skills during a task. > - A saved skill needs a visible result that users can inspect and edit. > - This pull request adds `create_skill` and a task feed card linked to Skill Studio. > - Users can open the saved skill from the task and edit the same resource. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Runner tools, company skill storage, task feed, and Skill Studio. **Problem or motivation** The Runner has no dedicated tool to create a company skill. A user cannot follow a creation result from the task feed to the saved skill. **Proposed solution** Add a company-scoped `create_skill` tool. Save the skill with the existing company policy. Add one creation card to the task. Open a named sidebar tab from that card. Let the user open the same skill in Skill Studio. **Alternatives considered** An agent can write a local file, but that file is not a company skill. A second document copy in the task would become stale after a Studio edit. The sidebar therefore reads the saved skill directly. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Skills Manager, Skill Studio, and Skills Store milestone. The maintainer requested and approved this scope. Search found no duplicate `create_skill` PR or issue. Related UI validation work: #8715. This PR does not change that validation display. ## What Changed - Add the real Runner tool, its contract, and its mock implementation. - Validate the complete SKILL.md and derive company, task, agent, and run identity from authentication. - Apply the existing company skill policy. Do not assign the skill to an agent. - Make keyed retries return one skill and one creation event. Reject conflicting retries. - Make concurrent file creation safe. Never replace an existing published skill during creation. - Add a creation card, a named sidebar tab, and an Open in Skill Studio action. - Show saved Studio edits when the user returns to the task. - Add storage, policy, mode, retry, UI, and Product E2E tests. Document the tool. - Fix deleted-name reuse, onboarding panel persistence, immediate feed refresh, and mock validation parity from review. - Serialize Studio file edits and renames with skill deletion and recreation. Reject stale editor requests before they can change a replacement skill. - Generate the standalone mock parser and validator from the production contract. Use portable UUIDs so the browser scenario bundle builds. ## Verification - All latest-head PR checks pass on `145dd76a5`, including all server shards, browser E2E, Runner verification, build, typecheck, and release dry run. Greptile: 5/5 with no open findings. An interrupted CI runner was retried successfully. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - Review regressions: 73 storage tests, 6 real API tests, 63 UI tests, and 61 semantic runtime tests passed. Parser synchronization passed. - CI exposed existing fire-and-forget Sentry test races. Reproduced the resumption race locally, then synchronized the related sweep and finalizer assertions on the actual report; all 27 tests across the three affected files pass. - Runner scenario browser build and strict content-security-policy check: passed. - Runner suite: 2,012 tests passed; 10 skipped. - `pnpm test:run`: the general-server batch had 12,416 passes and two failures. The old tool-count assertion was fixed; all 16 authority tests then passed. The chat webhook test had a socket error; it passed four isolated reruns. - Both workspace test groups passed. The isolated route suites completed. Two socket failures in the initial route batches passed on individual reruns; all remaining 61 files passed. - Product E2E `create-skill-studio`: passed with local Codex and local ACPX Claude. - Manual browser test: submit a task, observe the real tool call and creation card, open the sidebar, edit in Studio, save, and return. The task reached Done. The saved second revision and sidebar tab survived a server restart. - The new companion headless Runner Eval passed. Companion coverage PR: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/23. Daytona was not run because no immutable runner image was configured. ## Risks - Database writes and local file writes cannot share one transaction. Recovery accepts only an exact file-for-file retry after a database rollback. Conflicting files remain untouched. - The sidebar displays the current skill. The feed card remains the historical creation receipt. - No database migration, dependency, or workflow change is included. - Remote Daytona behavior still needs a run with a configured immutable image. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) handled design, integration, review, and browser verification. OpenAI `gpt-5.6-luna` assisted with bounded implementation and eval work. Both used code execution and tool access. The host did not expose the context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve runner recovery, warm sessions, and task outcomes (#13338)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native runner connects task messages, provider execution, and task outcomes. > - First-time user tests exposed gaps in recovery, completion permissions, message delivery, and Stop behavior. > - These gaps left usable output hidden, completed work waiting for bookkeeping, or safe work unable to continue. > - This pull request fixes the shared lifecycle and receipt paths while preserving process ownership and action checks. > - Users can continue work with accurate task state and durable messages. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A stopped local Codex execution could remain blocked even after its processes had stopped and its complete transcript proved that no external action needed replay. Claude under Conservative permissions could fail to call task completion tools. Recovery could reuse an assistant item ID and overwrite prior output. A delivered comment could remain marked uncertain after navigation. Stop could look like Pause or a new recovery incident. Workspace contention could look like cancellation. A direct reply reopening Done could enter a clarification loop. **Expected behavior** Recover automatically only with verified termination and complete action receipts. Preserve answers and messages. Keep task completion available under Conservative permissions without broad tool access. Show crashes as Blocked, actual human decisions as In Review, and ordinary workspace contention as waiting. Stop the current response and allow a new direction. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create ordinary response tasks with local Codex and Claude Code, then send follow-up messages through the task composer. 2. Interrupt a disposable local Codex runner during text-only work. Verify automatic continuation and retained output. 3. Stop a response, send a new request, answer a clarification, and reopen completed work with another message. 4. Navigate or reload while a comment submission is pending. Confirm the exact persisted request receipt settles it without removing newer draft text. 5. Run two tasks in a shared Daytona workspace. Confirm waiting does not appear as failure. **Paperclip version or commit** Initial acceptance baseline: `c9021c6721f91e2c74bd9fee9d3fd41c999d17b7`. Current integration base: `6cef9743c`. Both operator-interruption and workspace-waiting guards are preserved; native restart and legacy permission rules remain documented. **Deployment mode** An isolated source-built test-drive instance, with real local Codex and Claude Code providers and disposable Daytona environments. Related work: #13314, #13316, #13327, #13344, #13239, #13254, #13163. This PR addresses additional failures from ordinary task journeys, including controller restart handoff and repeated warm sandbox setup. Historical task status reconciliation is excluded. ## What Changed - Persist runner ownership immediately at spawn and resume an explicitly adopted runner even when the controller crashed before the first driver checkpoint. Detach the controller safely across graceful restarts, including session startup. Prevent an old finalizer from suspending or signaling an adopted runner. Checkpoint idle warm sessions before shutdown. Preserve the same run and queued follow-up messages. - Scope saved legacy queue successor checks to the queue owner while preserving ordinary task locks, operator identity, assignment gates, and exactly-once delivery. - Preserve managed Codex credential files when an old session is detached for restart; normal owned cleanup still copies refreshed auth back and removes the scoped copy. - Reuse the bound warm shared sandbox and fully verify an existing staged provider pack before using it. This avoids repeated uploads when the pack is already valid. - Add a narrow local Codex replacement path with stopped-process proof, a closed transcript inventory, exact completion receipts, and fresh-session lineage. Preserve no-replay holds when evidence is incomplete. Recovery may clear only the same run's recorded Blocked status version; manual re-blocking and dependency changes invalidate that receipt, while queued comments do not. Later blocks stop scheduled, queued, and final dispatch; queued/final checks re-read dependencies even when the task status stays In Progress. - Permit only task delivery and human-input tools through the isolated Claude runner's exact task bridge. - Scope assistant item identity to the provider turn and ignore only authority-free Codex skill-change notifications during startup. - Reconcile composer submissions by client request ID across response loss, navigation, and reload. Retain text typed during delivery. - Keep acknowledged run-only Stop neutral and show workspace contention as waiting. Project exhausted native failures as Blocked. - Restore the guarded task-page retry action for failed legacy runs, including the server-supported explicit new-attempt path for stopped conversation adapters. Preserve native/process recovery holds and avoid promising Retry while a decision or execution gate hides it. - Refresh delivered artifacts and handle direct user replies that reopen completed work without a clarification loop. - Check the embedded PostgreSQL PID, data directory, and actual port before connecting or migrating. - Document accepted behavior and add focused regressions at lifecycle, route, transcript, and UI boundaries. ## Verification - Final head `fece606ac2` passes the complete GitHub CI matrix: **34 green checks, two expected Storybook skips, no failures or pending checks**, including `ci / verify`, `ci / e2e`, full runner verification, typecheck, build, every server/workspace shard, and all browser shards. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34727183287). Greptile is **5/5 with no open findings**. The final two commits only refine test fixtures; both affected suites pass 24/24 locally and in CI, with server typecheck green. - Complete local Vitest coverage uses the canonical groups/shards: all 635 general server suites, all 145 serialized suites, and all workspace packages. The aggregate began on `0a8001c18` while the final queue fix arrived: 23,903 passed, five failed, 87 skipped. The five port/socket/timing failures passed unchanged in follow-ups (60 tests in the exposure/file suites and 412 tests covering the serialized failures and unrun tails). The final queue/operator-identity suites separately passed 52/52. This is aggregate coverage plus explicit reruns, not a pristine single-command final-head run. - After integration with current master, queue/operator-identity/continuation suites passed 162/162 and affected UI suites passed 140/140. ACP Stop/continuation and legacy task/Inbox/message browser suites passed 9/9, including both task recovery Retry and thread Try again, automatic saved-message delivery, exactly one new run, Done, and retained output after reload. The default process Stop/Pause/Resume browser case passed (the native-provider case is opt-in and skipped by default). The complete Board attachment/receipt browser suite passed 11/11 on a disposable instance, covering both composers, exact receipts after lost responses, no replay, bound attachments, and newer drafts after reload. - Blocking-intent regressions cover pre-existing Blocked, a mismatched run/cause, an explicit manual re-block, changed dependencies, a queued comment after failure, and a block arriving between scheduling and provider dispatch. The negative cases reproduced before the fix. All 478 affected executor/recovery/dispatch tests passed; both database suites ran separately after availability-probe skips in the first combined command. The final late-dependency check passed all 143 affected recovery/dispatch tests (zero skips) after two new negative cases reproduced the bug. - Focused runtime regressions cover awaited runner ownership publication, authenticated adoption before the first checkpoint, old-finalizer detachment, idle and busy warm-session shutdown, rejected checkpoint propagation, provider-pack verification, and managed-Codex credential preservation. Four managed credential detachment cases reproduced the bug before the fix; normal owned cleanup still succeeds exactly once. - Live local Claude: SIGKILL 2.6 seconds into startup recovered the same run automatically in 53 seconds, then a normal follow-up completed in 24 seconds. SIGTERM 2.5 seconds into startup preserved the same run (54 seconds) and its queued follow-up (21 seconds). Answers remained visible and the task reached Done. - Live Claude Daytona: a warm follow-up retained its sandbox and fell from 121 seconds to 44 seconds. A separate cold turn took 127 seconds; after controller shutdown and checkpointing, its follow-up completed in 33 seconds with the same sandbox, workspace, native session, and runner. Both answers remained visible and the task was Done. - Other live journeys covered task completion and follow-up with local and Daytona Codex, local Codex crash recovery, Stop then new direction, clarification response, live artifact refresh, and shared-workspace waiting. - Validation limits: the opt-in native composer Stop/Pause→subtree Resume fixture exposes terminal/result ordering and subtree-cancellation attribution bugs that can leave a child task blocked; that new finding is assigned to a separate follow-up and is not claimed fixed here. Default CI skips this optional native-provider fixture. Managed-Codex credential handoff and the queue-agent integration use automated regression evidence. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency. ## Risks - Automatic replacement remains deliberately narrow: local Codex, verified stopped identities, unchanged retained state, and a complete text/completion-only turn. Unknown actions, partial history, or changed ownership remain blocked. - Claude completion permission handling changes an upstream package patch. The exact isolated task bridge must remain pinned; unrelated tools keep their existing permissions. - New task failure projection changes user-visible status. No historical status backfill or database migration is included. - This is a broad lifecycle fix across server and UI. Live proof covers graceful local Claude restart during startup and idle Claude Daytona session recovery across controller shutdown. Live abrupt SIGKILL during local Claude startup also recovered the same run. Unknown ownership or missing action evidence still blocks reuse. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency; this change avoids unnecessary repeat uploads. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, code execution, browser automation, and tool use. The exact hosted model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: dispatch queued legacy messages with operator identity and task permissions (#13315)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task conversations save messages that arrive during an active turn. > - Legacy adapters deliver these messages in a later turn. > - A run can stop before the saved queue is delivered. > - The Interrupt button previously required an active run, so it could not release this queue. > - This pull request lets a board operator send the saved queue after the run stops and retries queues missed during finalization. > - Manual dispatch must use the clicking operator and must not require permission to create agents. > - The task can continue without a duplicate message or a second execution owner. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A legacy task retained a queued message after its run stopped. Interrupt was disabled because the queue had no active target. Finalization and deferred message admission can also leave a queue without a successor. **Expected behavior** Interrupt sends the saved messages when no runner is active. Messages that arrive during normal completion are delivered automatically. An uncertain previous execution still requires proof that its process or sandbox stopped. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Queue a user message during a legacy conversation turn. 2. Let the turn stop or simulate a server restart before queue promotion. 3. Open the task with a deferred queue and no active run. 4. Try Interrupt. Before this change, the button is disabled. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `8f40b4ad4`. **Deployment mode** Legacy conversation adapter. The same persisted queue state is covered with an isolated PostgreSQL fixture. Related public work: #13275 adds active legacy interruption. #13291 addresses automatic sandbox conversation recovery. This change handles explicit saved-queue delivery and late queue promotion. ## What Changed - Accept a null Interrupt target while retaining queue identity, revision, company, and assignee checks. - Save the operator's request on the existing queue. Reuse normal admission after verified stop, including older messages, different authors, and queues whose original wake came from the system. - Strip interruption authority from caller-supplied wake payloads. Only the board queue route can persist that authority. - Retry durable interruption requests after restart and deferred queues after legacy cleanup. - Let an explicit Interrupt retry cleanup for its stopped run, including old ephemeral leases that recorded success without a provider stop receipt. Preserve retained resources, other lease owners, and the automatic retry limit. - Preserve the server's waiting explanation when normalizing and combining queue entries. - Revalidate the consumed board queue receipt at dispatch so a different message author does not cause setup failure. - Use the Interrupt user's execution identity for the new run. Preserve original message authors. Validate the receipt independently at startup and inherit the resulting identity on retry. - Persist authenticated board authority for ordinary manual wakes too. Adopting someone else's queued messages cannot switch a manual run to that author's permissions. Strip caller-supplied authority markers and retain private conversation ownership checks. - Keep the clicking user when a manual wake is merged into an older deferred receipt. Update its requester and payload in the same transaction. - Use the same current-queue/revision API on task details and pipeline conversations; show Interrupt after a legacy target stops. - Keep manual wakes out of active runs, including unscoped agent wakes. They receive their own execution identity; a matching receipt requester is not sufficient because an exact retry can retain a different originating identity. - Authorize both existing-agent wake endpoints with `agent:wake`, available to active non-viewer company members. Keep `agents:create` for hiring. Validate the stored task and current assignee before an exact task retry. - Reject viewer Interrupt requests before saving intent or stopping execution. Keep external chat retry authorization and per-action agent/user permission checks. - Preserve edits and discards until dispatch. Prevent another queue promotion when the same agent already has a successor. Keep independent reviewer recovery available. - Suppress cancelled/failed run toasts for intentional operator interruption. Keep ordinary runtime error notices. - Add UI, route, admission, restart, successor ownership, and toast regression tests. Document the behavior. - Reuse the existing socket reservation helper for both credential-quorum test cases after CI exposed an ambient-port collision. This changes test preparation only; production credential staging is still called exactly once. ## Verification - Failing regression tests reproduced the message-author identity bug and an operator's `agents:create` rejection before the fixes. - All 316 focused tests pass across eight route, queue, identity, authorization, continuation, and responsible-user suites, including the 44-test rerun of queue admission and actual startup after the final manual-wake restriction. Regressions reproduce cross-user merging both with and without a task, and same-requester receipt ambiguity. The cross-company existence guard also passes both tests. - Startup integration tests reach adapter execution under the clicking operator and retain that identity through follow-up. Coverage includes mixed authors, adopted queues, system-origin queues, restarts, forged or stale receipts, viewers, suspended memberships, changed assignees, private conversations, and caller-supplied authority markers. - The earlier queue/cleanup/UI regression suite passed 402 tests. The final review corrections pass another 180 tests across queue admission/persistence, real heartbeat startup, UI API, conversation rendering, and pipeline suites. Regression tests reproduced both review findings before correction. The final head has a 5/5 review with no unresolved threads. Full CI passes on `c2002979c`, including every general and serialized server shard, all browser shards, Paperclip Runner verification, typecheck, build, canary dry run, and the aggregate gates. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and UI token gates pass after the final application changes. CI identified an outdated task-page API mock after the shared helper extraction; the fixture now exercises the real helper, and all 131 task-page/API tests pass. The final application build passes with the additional manual-wake restriction. - CI exposed a pre-existing port collision in the Codex credential-quorum fixture. It reproduced locally; both listener cases now use the existing bounded reservation helper. All 41 credential tests pass on rerun. One intervening local run hit a separate ambient bind collision in the two-occupied-port case. - The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was stopped after host contention caused focused-suite timeouts. The affected focused tests passed on rerun. An expiring trace fixture and a missing private-conversation state were corrected. The successful full CI run is the complete-suite verification. - Hosted Interrupt previously cleared the original queue and produced exactly one successor with neutral interruption feedback. It exposed the dispatch authorization defect. Retry on that earlier build was rejected for missing `agents:create` before creating another run. - Deployed the final application build (`38257f391`) to the scoped hosted instance and verified readiness. The latest PR commit changes only the credential test fixture; application code matches that deployment. A live Retry by the same operator without `agents:create` created one successor attributed to that operator, passing the former dispatch permission gate. Startup then stopped at `configuration_incomplete` because that operator has not configured their required personal Claude Code OAuth secret; the post-deployment run page confirms the operator identity and no provider work started, and the My secrets UI still shows the token as not set. Provider execution remains unverified pending that credential. No permission grants or credentials were changed. ## Risks Queue admission and finalization can race. The task lock, durable queue receipt, current comment IDs, and successor guard prevent duplicate dispatch. Process and lease stop checks, task pauses, approvals, ownership, and budgets remain in force. The API change only allows null on legacy Interrupt; native steering still requires an active run. No schema migration is required. Active non-viewer board members can now invoke existing agents without agent-creation permission. Agent self-invocation rules, raw provider-trace admin access, task retry scope, external chat authorization, and action-specific user/agent permissions remain enforced. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The session does not expose an exact backend model ID or context-window size. Used reasoning, repository search, code execution, tests, and browser tools. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: reuse provider sign-in across AI connection workflows (#13248)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Users connect provider accounts during onboarding and agent setup. > - They should reuse and manage those accounts through the existing Connectors interface. > - A second login wizard would diverge from the established provider workflows. > - This pull request composes the existing sign-in components into Connections and agent configuration. > - Users can select accounts without changing their agent's harness or model. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** AI credentials are configured separately from Connections. Agents cannot consistently reuse a responsible user's account or a permitted shared account. **Proposed solution** Manage AI accounts with the existing Connections grants and permissions. Keep model and harness selection independent from credential selection. Preserve legacy authentication until validated adoption. **Alternatives considered** A separate credential registry would duplicate ownership and access policy. Automatic fallback would risk using the wrong account. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Apps, multi-user, secrets, and agent-runtime capabilities. The maintainer requested the feature and reviewed the UI. Related groundwork: #11899 (connection permissions), #10910 (connection wizard), #11692 (Claude subscription profiles), and #11854 (Codex account rotation). ## What Changed - Add compact AI-account management to the existing Connectors pages. - Reuse AgentProviderConnection, AdapterLoginPanel, AdapterLoginChrome, and authentication controllers. - Add the shared connection picker to agent setup/settings and task requests. - Preserve onboarding's sequence and reuse existing accounts. - Add local-login recovery, retry, cancellation, and React StrictMode handling. - Add interactive Storybook scenarios, design-guide examples, and app acceptance checks. This is part 2 of the AI Connections change. The runtime foundation in #13247 is merged. This PR now targets master. ## Verification - Updated against master `47ded8bf9`, including the landed runtime foundation and upstream task-search changes. - Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and token gates passed on the integrated branch. Final local-login changes passed 59 focused tests; new-agent and inbox regression suites passed 63 tests. - Browser checks verified automatic local Claude account detection, resumable Codex login commands, retry, focus restoration, and desktop/phone layouts. Commands create their isolated directory before invoking the CLI. - All CI test, browser, build, packaging, and runner jobs passed on final head `dd17d3211931dd70aaa6ea619d83a7f9966dd18e`. The fresh Greptile review is 5/5, the security scan passed, and there are no unresolved review threads. The final CI aggregate gates passed. - Local general-server coverage passed 11,804 tests; three port-collision failures passed in an isolated 25-test rerun. All 6,111 UI tests passed. CLI coverage passed 484 tests; its remaining doctor test requires port 3199, which is occupied by an unrelated report server on this Mac. The complete CLI suite passed in CI. - Live browser testing verified Codex API-key reconnect inside a task card on desktop and phone. Real provider runs resumed and completed with unchanged connection/grant identity and agent routing. - Tested opening, cancelling, reopening, and completing connection creation. A regression confirms Connect another account cannot submit the new-agent form or copy provider keys into agent settings. - Added shared inline repair, automatic local sign-in checks, and responsive connection dialogs. Standalone Daytona installation ignores workspace configuration and suppresses dependency scripts. Its standalone build also passed with CI's exact pnpm 9.15.4. - Destructive live tests are excluded by default. Explicit opt-in, local deployment checks, and matching disposable fixture identities are required before any mutation. ## Risks - Local Codex/Grok creation requires the connection-specific terminal login command. - Browser sign-in uses the existing supported-environment controllers. - This update verifies live local Claude detection and Codex API-key task repair. New subscription authorization/refresh and independent-human/native-runner isolation were not reverified in this update. - No agent automatically adopts managed Connections. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The exact runtime model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental persistent agent chat (#13284)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Conversations must use the same tasks, controls, and execution history. > - Users need an ongoing chat with an agent without managing task properties. > - Agents should clarify and plan work, then hand execution to assigned project tasks. > - This pull request combines the reviewed Agent Chat stack for one squash merge. > - The benefit is persistent conversation with normal task governance and shared UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task lifecycle, agent runtime tools, shared task UI, and browser/paid runner tests. **Problem or motivation** Users need one persistent conversation with each agent. A separate chat store or renderer would duplicate task behavior and bypass existing controls. **Proposed solution** Use a task-backed chat per company, user, and agent. Reuse the task composer and transcript. Clarify and plan in chat, then create assigned project tasks with the relevant plan. Keep Agent Chat behind its own disabled-by-default experimental setting. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the task-backed direction in [CEO Chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/master/ROADMAP.md#-ceo-chat). Related proposals: #2504 and #9693. Related request: #7981. The maintainer requested one squash merge of the complete stack. Consolidates the reviewed runtime [#13281](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13281), backend [#13282](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13282), and UI [#13283](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13283) layers with this PR's E2E coverage. All four layers passed CI and received Greptile 5/5 before consolidation. This PR targets master and includes the complete feature. ## What Changed - Add personal canonical chat tasks with ordinary company visibility, immutable identity, idempotent first sends, and an idle waiting state. - Process `/new` in queue order. Preserve history, release a chat pause, and fence old provider context and delayed writes. - Keep chat lifecycle rules across recovery, finalization, assignment, task lists, and rollups. - Support research and plan revision in chat. Hand plans to ordinary assigned project tasks before execution starts. Reject new chat subtasks. - Add repository-aware project creation and discovery tools, including multiple repository IDs and GitHub URLs, authorization, idempotency, and durable project-created cards. - Reuse task UI components for chat, with starred/recent agent navigation and a separate `enableAgentChat` experimental flag. - Add deterministic browser tests and 24 paid chat cells across four Codex/Claude profiles, with validated reports and screenshots. - Integrate current master recovery, controller lease, queued-message, and task UI changes. Gate chat interruption and deferred promotion on ownership/feature policy. Guarantee lease renewal and active controls are stopped even if teardown fails. - Preserve master's migration 0273 and generate chat migration 0274 with idempotent replay for development databases. ## Verification - Prior exact heads of all four PRs passed Linux CI, including build, typecheck, general/serialized tests, and browser E2E. Each had Greptile 5/5 and no unresolved findings. - Integrated local verification passed: full repository typecheck and production build, Storybook build, token gates, 340 focused UI tests, all 20 deterministic chat browser tests, two migration replay tests, 88 focused chat/queue/native/controller tests, and provider/session regressions including real lease expiry. These include the three lifecycle regressions for the final admission/teardown fixes; server typecheck also passes. Current head `1268eda16cc2af892055917e7292f068820be135` has Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved findings and passing security scans. All final-head CI gates passed: build, full Runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary, all general/serialized test shards, and all browser E2E shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34696739927)). Local PostgreSQL startup contention required serialized retries; skipped fixtures do not count as passing coverage. - The earlier paid campaign passed all 24 chat cells and retained 32 screenshots: [report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-34648511170-1/index.html?report=agent-chat#suite-agent-chat). It tested `abacbdfd2f660709ec37312cdb758284c8399d04`; it is prior evidence, not a paid run of this integrated head. - Manual check: enable Agent Chat in Experimental settings, open an agent, clarify and revise a plan, then hand off to an assigned project task. Stop a reply, send `/new`, and verify fresh context with retained history. Disable the setting and verify agent shortcuts/new chat turns are blocked. ## Risks - Queue/session integration can affect retries and delayed writes. Tests cover ownership, cancellation, reset boundaries, idle recovery, and ordinary task behavior. - Migration 0274 adds conversation fields and constraints. Replay is idempotent and preserves existing development chat history. - This combines the previously reviewed stack at the maintainer's request. Agent Chat remains off by default and is separate from Conference Room. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, code execution, browser tools, and parallel review. The exact context-window size is not exposed in this session. Codex and Claude also ran as test subjects in the linked paid campaign. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(tasks): require resume before sending to paused tasks (#13232)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task execution controls let board users pause a task or its subtree. > - The composer still accepted messages while a pause hold was active. > - A paused task must require an explicit resume before the user can send another message. > - This pull request replaces the composer with an amber pause card and checks board comment writes on the server. > - The user keeps their draft and resumes through the existing task controls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13104. Refs #13119. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The task composer and existing task/subtree pause controls. **Current behavior** A paused task can still receive a board message. The pause notice sits outside the composer, which leaves the send action available. **Proposed behavior** Show an amber takeover in both task chat and the classic composer. Preserve the draft. Require the user to resume the task or the ancestor subtree before sending. Reject board comment writes through either supported write route while the pause hold is active. **Breaking changes** Board comment writes to a paused task now return HTTP 409. Agent run reports remain supported during a pause. There is no schema migration. ## What Changed - Add a shared amber composer takeover with task, subtree, saved draft, pending, and error states. - Use effective ancestor pause state in both composer interfaces. Refresh it after pause events, task updates, and rejected sends. - Preserve draft text and attachments. Hide editor, send, queued edit, and pending question controls while paused. - Check active pause holds before board comment writes can mutate tasks, store comments, or wake agents. - Connect the approved Storybook examples to the production component and update the design and behavior docs. - Add browser coverage for both composers, draft persistence, resume, inherited holds, and rejected writes. Update ACP continuation coverage for the explicit resume requirement. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed: `pnpm build`. - Passed: `pnpm build-storybook`. - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check`. - Passed: focused UI tests (398 tests) and server route tests (127 tests). - Passed: `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/paused-composer.spec.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts` (5 tests). - Passed: manual browser walkthrough in a disposable local instance. Pause with a draft, refresh while paused, resume, send, and reopen. The draft returned, and one message persisted. The amber card and resume dialog were readable with no clipping. - Full local `pnpm test:run` did not pass: the general-server stage recorded 9,072 passing tests, 6 database setup failures from macOS shared-memory exhaustion, and 4 failed tests. This stopped the script before its later groups. Latest-head CI runs those groups independently. - Local follow-up: the Git file-resource load test passed on rerun (4 tests); native finalization migration passed after clearing the abandoned browser-test database allocation. Building the native debug fixtures fixed the missing fake provider. The remaining native-session recovery assertion also reproduces on untouched base commit `87b3e5fc6` (36 pass, 1 fail on both base and PR). It expects a settled-session error but receives a semantic-input-digest error. - The final UI build, UI typecheck, token gates, both thread suites (182 tests), and all five browser tests passed after the queued-action review fix. All 31 latest-head CI checks passed, including all server, workspace, browser, build, release, and security gates. Two optional Storybook jobs were skipped by workflow policy. Greptile reviewed `32d8fb5f5` at 5/5 with no open findings. - Review the Paused Composer and Tasks / Execution Controls stories. Pause a task with a draft, verify the amber card, resume, and verify the draft can be sent once. ## Risks - Clients that used board comments to continue paused work must resume first. The response is an explicit HTTP 409. - Pause state can change while a page is open. Live updates refresh the composer, and the server rejects stale sends before their side effects. - Resume keeps the existing dialog and optional agent wake behavior. Agent reports from interrupted runs remain allowed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with design, implementation, code execution, and browser verification. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning and tool calls. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally and they pass; the full local-suite limits are documented above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Reduce run polling and workspace inspection amplification (#13174)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and shows run progress to operators. > - Run lists, live events, transcripts, and workspace details must remain responsive as usage grows. > - Run-list redaction rereads the full context for every run. Hidden tabs can still trigger requests through live events and manual timers. > - Workspace detail reads repeat Git inspection even when concurrent callers request the same state. > - This pull request batches registry reads, pauses hidden-tab refreshes, and caches Git inspection for display. > - Cleanup keeps fresh Git checks, and redaction keeps company and run boundaries. ## Linked Issues **What happened?** Run-list responses perform one extra database read per run and parse full context JSON to obtain small secret registries. Hidden tabs continue transcript reads and event-triggered refetches. Workspace detail requests repeat Git scans. **Expected behavior** A run list reads registries once. Hidden tabs stop recurring run reads and reconcile when visible. Concurrent workspace detail reads share a short-lived Git result. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open run lists and task transcripts in several tabs while agents run. 2. Hide some tabs and observe transcript and event-triggered requests. 3. Request a 200-run list and count redaction database queries. 4. Request the same workspace detail concurrently and count Git inspections. Related: #5255 adjusts polling cadence. This change addresses hidden-tab lifecycle, batched registry reads, and workspace inspection reuse. No duplicate with this scope was found. ## What Changed - Batch heartbeat and live-run redaction into one company-scoped registry query. Select only registry JSON for run and issue redaction. - Resolve duplicate secret values once per request. Preserve each run's registry and remove registry material from responses. - Suspend company event sockets and transcript reads while hidden. Refresh active queries and resume transcript offsets on return. - Prevent queued event invalidations and developer health polling from fetching in hidden tabs. Gate legacy run-log readers in both UI variants. - Exclude legacy plugin placeholder connections from remote health probes. Select only due connection IDs in SQL before the sweep limit. Preserve existing plugin records. - Cache concurrent Git display inspections for five seconds, with at most 256 entries. Leave close-readiness and cleanup checks uncached. - Add regression coverage and document the performance behavior. - Stabilize the existing Rust descendant-lineage fixture: allow a bounded 30 seconds for 300 durable notifications under concurrent test load, retaining every correctness assertion and adding timeout diagnostics. ## Verification - Regression coverage verifies one registry query for 200 runs, per-run isolation, request-local secret resolution, decryption failures, Git cache expiry/bounds, hidden-tab pause, and visibility recovery. - Real PostgreSQL redaction/run-route suites passed all 57 tests; workspace-service coverage passed. The health-sweep regression verifies plugin placeholders and chat connections remain untouched and do not consume the sweep limit. - Both legacy transcript viewers retain history and resume their byte offset after visibility changes. The related visibility/progress/chunk suites passed all 29 tests. Other focused UI suites and token gates passed. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. Affected-package typechecks/builds passed after review fixes. The concurrent Rust provider suite passed 84 tests (two ignored), and Rust formatting passed. - Full local `pnpm test:run` stopped after the general-server group: 10,538 passed, 65 skipped, four failed. Fresh chat-delivery and health-sweep reruns passed; building the debug runner fixture cleared the native-event test. One unchanged native-session recovery assertion still fails locally with a semantic-digest error instead of the expected settled-session message. The full local command is therefore not green. CI runs the later groups separately and skips the two native-session tests requiring a prebuilt runner binary (confirmed in its 37-test native-session suite). - All CI gates pass on final head `ee610e737`: typechecking, general and serialized tests, browser tests, runner verification, build, and canary dry run. One server shard passed on its single retry after exposure fixtures encountered port 42001 where they assumed 42000; that suite also passed locally (25 passed, three platform-specific skips). - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5 with no actionable findings. ## Risks - Workspace delivery display can lag local Git changes by five seconds. Destructive operations still inspect current state. - Hidden tabs do not receive company live-event notifications until visible. Active queries refresh on return. - This change preserves legacy plugin records and does not repair instance-specific workspace rows. There is no database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser inspection. feat: add experimental native chat connectors (#13038)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People also ask agents for work in their existing chat tools. > - Each external conversation needs one task and a current authorized source. > - Retries, Stop, and provider failures must not duplicate work or expose private data. > - The first chat PR establishes the opt-in provider and data contracts. > - This PR adds experimental channel integration and its durable control plane. > - Users can request work from connected channels and inspect delivery in Paperclip. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13100 and #13092. This is the second of exactly two chat PRs. Foundation #13100 is merged and changed 143 files. Runner prerequisite #13092 is also merged. This PR changes 400 files against master, below the 500-file review limit. It contains no wireframe images or HTML galleries. ## What Changed - Add native Slack, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord chat connections. Keep chat disabled unless the operator enables experimental chat connectors. Preserve the production GitHub tool connection and its normal setup path. - Bind each provider bot identity to one immutable Paperclip agent. Bind each admitted external conversation to one task. Paperclip owns tasks, runs, permissions, and audit records. - Add durable admission, per-conversation queues, questions, task controls, progress, final replies, images, files, and delivery receipts. Board comments remain internal unless explicitly sent to the channel. - Check current identity, provider reach, resource access, credentials, runtime generation, and exact source before provider effects. Keep private responses private. Never send raw reasoning, private logs, credentials, or tool arguments. - Hold uncertain sends for explicit audited resolution. Make Board Send-to-channel atomic and idempotent. Keep reconnect and setup credentials in Paperclip secret storage. - Preserve current native-runner authority across retries, lost acknowledgements, and recovery. Keep immutable input and completion contracts separate from newer user input. Receipt reconciliation cannot launch a provider. - Reconcile chat close/new ordering and provider-effect lock order. Audit resource access changes in the same transaction. Submit only the selected resource from each UI toggle so stale pages cannot undo unrelated access changes. - Drain Codex stdout before certifying process exit. Bound the drain with the existing shutdown grace. Preserve observed terminal authority without treating an undrained process as successful or reusable. - Incorporate master `018ca5da` with its ACP Stop, mobile task layout, runner packaging, and official lock changes. Preserve dedicated chat-answer continuations in both directions when ordinary queued comments are adopted after Stop. - Fence late adapter readiness behind an earlier Stop for the same run. Preserve verified cleanup for registered adapters. Handle single Stop, agent pause, duplicate Stops, and failure release without creating a false cancellation receipt. - Incorporate master's `6dd48cad4` wake-queue extraction. Preserve exact failed-chat retry authorization and lineage, retired question-source suppression, and the block on generic recovery that would discard the admitted source. Fresh deferred input retains its separate promotion path. - Incorporate master `2a05b5ed3` and its queue-admission extraction, simplified transaction ports, and separate runner CI job. Preserve exact durable receipts, actor separation, and dedicated-answer isolation through the new module. A failed receipt insert rolls back the accompanying deferred-wake merge. ## Verification Current head: `afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a`, incorporating master `2a05b5ed3457ea33efd6895520447d1d97fe98d8`. The conflicts are resolved. This successor fixes two test-harness boundaries exposed by CI: per-case route-module preparation and actual durable-save completion before intentional runner termination. Production code and all existing test/turn deadlines are unchanged. [Exact-head Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13038#issuecomment-5587250594) is **5/5**, completed September 10 at 13:20:55 UTC, with no actionable findings or open review threads. [Fresh exact-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34481724341) passes **all 24 jobs**, including Build and both required aggregates. Normal exact-head guarded merge was attempted and rejected by the remaining branch approval policy: CODEOWNER review is required and no human approval is present. Normal **squash auto-merge is enabled** as of September 10 at 13:36:26 UTC. Requested CODEOWNERS have been notified; no approval bypass or self-approval was used. Earlier-head results below remain historical evidence, not qualification of this successor. - Final exact-head Linux evidence: 995/995 chat integration cases; 36/36 agent-skills routes; 35/35 runner live-session cases, including real process kill/resume; 1948 runner Vitest cases with three existing benchmark/platform guards; 870/870 API-authority cases; and 104 browser cases with four existing optional skips. Rust, conformance/replay, full repository build, typecheck, canary, all server/workspace shards, and both required aggregates pass with normal CI concurrency. Earlier failed attempts remain recorded below. - Latest test-only qualification: 141/141 route/permissions/authentication cases pass in separate cold forks, with plain server types and independent review clear. The real-runner suite passes 35/35, with plain runner types and independent review clear. A controlled premature-save acknowledgement fails as expected; matching ownership/effect/process evidence, rejected saves, real turn outcome, test abort, and pre-kill liveness are covered. No local reproduction of the original CI scheduling failure is claimed. The preceding [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34479680858) passes 21/24 jobs, including all 995 Linux chat cases and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); only Build, the skills serialized shard, and the required verification aggregate fail. Its exact-head Greptile review was 5/5. Both failed job logs are retained. - Final fixture qualification: all eight focused Discord cases and all 995 chat integration cases pass. The exact modal statement/PID is observed before taking the real connection lock; the test then proves its actual blocking relationship before mutation. Original SQL execution, provider behavior, negative assertions, and 1s/15s timeouts remain unchanged. Independent review is clear and test/production hashes remain frozen. The preceding [CI attempt](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34477184777) passed 22 jobs, including Build/runner, typecheck, canary, all other test shards, and browser aggregate (104 passed, four existing optional skips); the two fixture failures and failed verification aggregate remain recorded, not relabeled as a pass. - Current queue-module composition: 308/308 recovery/batching/queue/Stop tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 89/89 module tests, including real PostgreSQL receipt-insert rollback; 24/24 workflow/module-boundary tests; plain server and UI types. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.4 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries, stable reviewed source hashes. The initial boundary failure is retained; its no-op service wrapper was removed without changing recovery context or weakening the check. An exploratory standalone test-directory typecheck fails because its new upstream transformation config is not a standalone typechecking project; standard CI/build does not invoke it, and no configuration was weakened to suppress those diagnostics. - The preceding head `e02a63d462ce5d47433b0aeb632bb6fd20aab1ba` passed [all 24 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34436462958) and exact-head Greptile review at 5/5. Required CODEOWNER review prevented its normal merge before master advanced again. - Final extracted-module composition: 307/307 recovery, batching, queue and Stop-control tests; 995/995 full chat integration; 49/49 module tests including eight PostgreSQL adapter cases; and 19/19 issue-update tests. Plain server types pass. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass in 1.3 minutes. Fresh databases, no skips or retries in these cohorts, frozen source hashes, and independent review clear. - The preceding head `3e4e1c1c` passes [all PR CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34415826820), including Build and required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`. Both the original Rust failure and the previously load-sensitive lineage fixture pass with unchanged Linux concurrency. Master advanced afterward and required this reconciliation. - Final master composition: 448/448 focused UI tests, 186/186 adapter tests, 24/24 queue/control tests, and 11/11 packaging tests. Plain UI, server, shared, and adapter types pass. Token gates and diff checks pass. Independent server and UI reviews are clear. - Stop-registration regression: both real-service cases fail against exact `a95` source and pass with the fix. The full corrected recovery/control suite passes 265/265. Duplicate-owner and failed-Stop controls also pass. Plain server types pass. The readiness barrier prevents provider startup without adding an acknowledgment to an already terminal run. - Final qualification strengthens terminal-field equality and repeats both affected cases successfully on a fresh database. All four actual local process/ACP browser paths pass again in 1.3 minutes, without skips or retries. The final screenshot shows Cancelled, a paused subtree, retained input, and no error toast. - Two new actual-service regressions fail before the merge fix. They prove that queued-comment adoption could consume a dedicated chat answer or add unrelated input to that answer. The fixed four-case cohort passes, including ordinary upstream continuation and adapter Stop controls. Full recovery passes 257/257. All four actual local process/ACP Stop browser flows pass in 1.4 minutes, without skips or retries, on a fresh database. - The unchanged runner artifact was qualified with 171/171 transport tests, 870/870 API-authority tests, conformance 1/1, and replay 11/11. Six controlled reader tests prove the exit/drain repair. Its local serial Rust workspace passed 546 top-level cases plus two invoked helpers; the later passing Linux CI supplies default-concurrency evidence. - Prior exact-source full chat integration passes 995/995. Settings regressions cover concurrent stale pages, 501 destinations, pending state, rejected updates, and explicit retry. These deterministic tests do not prove live provider behavior. - Retained failed attempts and their causes are in the [qualification log](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-chat-queue-and-webhook-repair.md). The first merge adapter run timed out while macOS slept for 290 seconds. Its unchanged repeat passed with a temporary sleep guard. No assertion, deadline, or CI gate was weakened. Review commands include `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-queued-comments-routes.test.ts` and `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts`. Database suites require fresh disposable databases. See the [browser runbook](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-04-chat-adapters-browser-e2e-runbook.md) for provider setup and separate live acceptance steps. ## Risks - This remains experimental. Deterministic tests and bounded live evidence do not establish every provider feature, tenant, permission layout, or media shape. Teams work-tenant qualification is still open. - Failed and uncertain provider effects remain visible and can require operator action. A transport receipt does not prove recipient visibility. - Native controller and runner artifacts must remain compatible. Preserve lease ownership, terminal authority, source binding, and quarantine during future changes. - Access and audit rows commit together, but activity notifications remain best-effort. This is not a new durable event outbox. - The PR operation does not deploy a live server, replace its runner, or change provider permissions. Remaining live qualification is documented in the [temporary handoff](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/afe19299d06253cb628eb398e91d1200ea9f412a/doc/plans/chat-adapters/2026-09-08-open-qualification-followups.md). ## Model Used OpenAI Codex assisted with implementation, tool execution, testing, and review. The work records `gpt-6-astra` assistance. The environment does not report a context-window size. No private reasoning traces are included. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add composer Stop and simplify task controls (#13104)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task composer is where operators direct running agents. > - Operators need to stop work without leaving the conversation. > - Existing pause controls already hold task trees and interrupt both runner types. > - This pull request connects the composer to those controls and removes repeated feedback. > - Operators can pause work quickly and still queue messages while agents run. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Task pause, resume, and cancellation in the task page and composer. **Current behavior** The empty composer cannot stop a running task. Task controls require extra confirmation and reason text. Pause can show several notifications for the task already on screen. **Proposed behavior** Show Stop while this task runs and the composer is empty. Text or attachments switch it to Send. Stop and the menu use the same manual pause hold. Parent pauses include descendants. Keep task cancellation in the menu with a compact confirmation. Show one quiet pause row and gray cancelled-run details. **Reason and benefit** Operators can interrupt execution with one click. Drafts and queued messages keep their existing behavior. The UI waits for actual termination, including native cancellation acknowledgment. **Breaking changes** No endpoint, schema, or task-status change. Pause no longer asks for confirmation or a reason. Resume now honors the existing wake-agents option. Task notifications are suppressed for the task and subtree currently in view. Related UI work: #8228 changes navigation and composer shortcuts. This PR covers execution controls. No duplicate Stop-button PR was found. The change improves existing controls and does not duplicate a roadmap milestone. ## What Changed - Add Stop, pending feedback, duplicate-click protection, and inline errors to the composer. - Share the pause mutation across the composer, active-run controls, and menu. - Poll affected runs after a pause request. Require native cancellation acknowledgment. - Remove pause confirmation and shared reason fields. Reduce cancel confirmation to its task count and actions. - Honor wake-agents for executable tasks only. Preserve the pause when recovery review is needed; show partial wake failures inline. - Preserve explicit legacy reconciliation decisions while their continuation waits for dispatch. - Suppress notifications for visible task trees. Use quiet pause and cancellation feedback. - Add interactive stories using production controls and native/legacy end-to-end tests. ## Verification - User reviewed the running feature and revised Storybooks in the browser. - Rebased focused checks passed: 295 original targeted tests, 161 updated route/page/notification/status tests, and 26 recovery integration tests. - Both isolated runner journeys pass on the final revision (1.7 minutes). Coverage includes queueing, parent and child interruption, persisted holds, no automatic continuation, reconciled resume, cancellation, terminal exclusions, and no Stop toast. - Native coverage uses real runnerd with a deterministic provider fixture. Legacy coverage checks actual process termination. Live hosted-provider execution was not tested. - Repository typecheck and build, Storybook build, and token gates passed after rebase. The final server typecheck/build also passed. - The broad local run completed its general-server stage with 7,219 passing tests, 48 skipped, and two failures from cached pre-fix source and a stale native provider fixture. Both failed tests pass in fresh final-head reruns after rebuilding the fixture; the script did not continue to its later local stages. CI runs all test groups on the final revision. - Final revision: all 31 applicable CI checks passed; Storybook visual regression was skipped by its workflow conditions. Greptile: 5/5, zero unresolved comments. - Review `Tasks / Execution Controls` in Storybook. Type and clear a draft, stop a run, expand cancellation details, and test the menu on desktop and mobile. ## Risks - Stop pauses descendants for a parent task. This is the existing pause contract. - A held task can remain active if interruption fails. The UI shows an error instead of claiming termination. - Resume can start multiple assignees when wake-agents is selected. Backlog, blocked, and terminal tasks stay excluded. Existing execution reconciliation remains mandatory where required; Resume never invents action-outcome evidence. - Notification suppression uses the visible task and cached subtree. Notifications for unrelated work remain enabled. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime snapshot and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, tool calls, code execution, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: review connection actions from tasks (#13063)
Bring governed connection reviews into task history and composer approvals. Share resolution with Connections, add scoped remembered permissions, and resume agents through durable outcome receipts. Keep cards compact, collapse raw results, isolate untrusted provider output, bound continuation payloads, and reconcile missed live events. Add Storybook coverage, browser journeys, and service regression tests. Verification: all PR CI gates passed, Greptile 5/5, security scans passed, five connection-review browser journeys passed, and real native Codex approval/continuation was verified against the local MCP fixture. feat(ui): complete the task workspace (#12640)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task page is the main place where people guide and review agent work. > - Native runner events already project into the existing task chat on the lower stack. > - The larger task workspace must support those events without breaking direct adapters. > - Legacy questions, final replies, empty transcripts, and classic controls must keep their behavior. > - This pull request completes the provider-neutral task workspace experience. > - The benefit is one coherent task surface for native and direct execution paths. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12639. Refs #12617. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Task chat, task detail, side panels, interaction forms, and transcript presentation. **Problem or motivation** The task page does not provide one complete workspace for live activity, plans, questions, queued guidance, files, and documents. Earlier native UI work also exposed compatibility risks in legacy question and reply paths. **Proposed solution** Add the task workspace components and provider-neutral protocol presentation. Keep runner-only controls behind runtime facts. Preserve all direct-adapter composer, transcript, interaction, and finalization behavior. **Alternatives considered** A separate runner page would duplicate task behavior. Replacing legacy transcript logic would create unnecessary adapter regressions. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the unified task experience and the Cloud and Sandbox agents milestone. ## Stack - Base PR: #12639. - Lower PR: #12638. - This PR contains only its 119-file UI delta against `runner/remote-wss-transport`. - The next stack PR adds administrator and observability controls. ## What Changed - Added a reusable task workspace side panel for files and documents. - Added provider-neutral cards for tools, plans, questions, protocol activity, and progress. - Added queued guidance and richer composer state. - Added compact and expanded interaction presentation. - Added live activity, thinking, usage, recovery, and final reply presentation. - Added document annotations and task deep links. - Added bounded question validation and response handling. - Preserved native runner event projection from master. - Preserved legacy channel-less replies and explicit final reply precedence. - Preserved direct-adapter and classic-interface controls. - Did not change server execution selection, Rust code, migrations, workflows, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run UI tests, repository tests, typecheck, build, browser tests, security, and policy gates. - Tests cover active, settled, empty-transcript, interaction, queued-message, plan, question, file, document, and classic-interface states. - Compatibility tests cover direct adapters and native runner projection together. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check runner/remote-wss-transport...HEAD` passes. - The delta contains 119 UI-only files. ## Risks - This is a large task-page change. - Most files are new focused components and tests. - Shared transcript code keeps the lower native projection and legacy direct-adapter fallbacks. - Runner-only controls use adapter and runtime facts. - No execution path or rollout flag changes in this PR. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. The work used high-reasoning agent mode, repository tools, GitHub tools, and parallel code-audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes: / Closes / Refs OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(ui): keep selected run lifecycle and logs current (#10169)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip's agent-run detail view combines live lifecycle events, detail queries, and persisted shell logs. > - Queued runs do not have a log reference yet, so polling the log endpoint returns expected-but-noisy 404s. > - Simply disabling queued log polling can strand the selected detail cache at `queued` or leave terminal lifecycle fields stale. > - The detail cache therefore needs both live lifecycle patches and an HTTP fallback while the run is active. > - Both the selected-run query and the shared transcript hook must avoid reading persisted logs before execution starts. > - This pull request disables queued log polling in both paths, patches lifecycle fields, invalidates authoritative detail data, and polls run state only while active. > - The benefit is quiet queued runs, reliable queued-to-running transitions, and complete final log handoff. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No exact duplicate found. I searched open PRs for `queued run`, `log polling`, and `run lifecycle`; related results addressed stale queued execution or dashboards rather than selected-run log/detail synchronization. **What happened?** Opening or rendering a queued run caused repeated `GET /api/heartbeat-runs/:id/log` 404s from both the selected detail and shared transcript hydration paths. A queued-only detail guard could also leave the selected run stuck at `queued` when live delivery was missed, or stop before fetching final `logRef` and terminal fields. **Expected behavior** Queued runs should not request unavailable logs. The selected detail should transition through running to terminal via live events or bounded HTTP fallback, refresh authoritative detail data, fetch final logs, and then stop polling. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the detail page for a run waiting behind the agent concurrency limit. 2. Observe repeated log-endpoint 404s while status is queued. 3. Let the run start with WebSocket delivery unavailable or delayed. 4. Observe stale detail state without a run-detail fallback. **Environment** - Paperclip base: `14f20be92b86a49ff2c35495e5b0fa4d719998ef` - Deployment: self-hosted, built from source - Adapter scope: visible with Hermes-backed agents but not adapter-specific - [x] I searched open PRs for queued-run log polling and selected-run lifecycle synchronization; no exact duplicate was found. ## What Changed - Poll shell logs only while a run is `running`, never while `queued`. - Defer shared persisted-transcript hydration and its live WebSocket until a queued run becomes `running`; terminal runs still receive one persisted-log hydration attempt. - Patch selected run status, invocation metadata, errors, and start/finish times from lifecycle events. - Invalidate selected run detail on lifecycle events to hydrate authoritative `logRef`, result, usage, and excerpts. - Poll run detail every 5 seconds while queued and every 15 seconds while running, then stop at terminal status. - Add regression coverage for queued/running/terminal polling and lifecycle cache handoff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts` — 42 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/transcript/useLiveRunTranscripts.test.tsx` — 11 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` - Exact final diff independently reviewed: **APPROVE**, no blocking findings. - UI-only local cutover completed with the Paperclip server PID unchanged. ## Risks - The selected run performs one lightweight detail GET every 5 seconds while queued and every 15 seconds while running if it remains open. Polling stops at terminal status. - Lifecycle events still patch immediately; polling is only the fallback and authoritative hydration path. - No API, schema, or migration changes. > This is a bug fix, not roadmap feature work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex `gpt-5.6-sol`, with tool use, code execution, repository inspection, and independent read-only review agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked/described the search above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the bug template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have considered documentation; no user-facing documentation change is required - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: cucurigoo <cucurigoo@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat: add built-in summarizer and summary slots (#9713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to organize, govern, and understand AI-agent work > - Operators need concise, current status views across projects and execution workspaces without manually reading every issue and run > - Paperclip already has auditable issues, documents, built-in agents, routines, and live run events, but no first-class summary-slot workflow connecting those systems > - A built-in Summarizer can generate status prose through ordinary governed tasks while summary slots provide stable, revisioned destinations for that output > - The UI needs to show current summaries, generation progress, failures, revisions, and streaming draft status in the places operators already work > - This pull request adds the end-to-end summary-slot data, API, agent, orchestration, and UI surfaces behind an experimental setting > - The benefit is decision-oriented status context that remains company-scoped, auditable, retryable, and inexpensive by default ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. **Problem** Operators currently have to reconstruct project and workspace status by reading many issues, runs, and comments. This makes it hard to identify decisions, review queues, recent work, and the next event worth watching. **Proposed capability** Add an experimental summary system with revisioned summary slots for projects and workspaces, a paused-by-default built-in Summarizer agent, governed generation tasks, live draft status, and reusable UI cards. **Expected behavior** - Summary data remains company-scoped and revisions remain auditable. - Generation runs through normal issue/agent orchestration and deduplicates active requests. - Only the linked built-in Summarizer generation task can author a slot revision. - Operators can generate, retry, inspect revisions, and follow draft progress from project and workspace views. - The feature remains opt-in and background generation remains paused by default. ## What Changed - Added summary-slot schema, idempotent migrations, shared contracts, validators, API paths, and service tests. - Added company-scoped summary-slot routes for reading revisions, requesting generation, and guarded Summarizer writes with activity logging. - Added terminal generation finalization, failure reasons, assignment wakeups, and orchestration integration. - Added the paused-by-default built-in Summarizer bundle, low-cost runtime defaults, status-summarization skill, and stale-summary routine. - Added summary cards, revision selection, retry/configuration states, live draft streaming, transcript chunk handling, and project/workspace integrations. - Updated Claude local parsing for streamed status output and expanded server, adapter, shared, database, catalog, and UI coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/db/src/summary-slots-schema.test.ts packages/shared/src/summary-slot.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slot-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/summary-slots.test.ts server/src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/SummarySlotCard.status.test.tsx ui/src/components/useSummaryDraftStream.test.tsx ui/src/lib/summary-draft-stream.test.ts ui/src/lib/run-log-chunks.test.ts ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.hook.test.tsx` — 113 tests passed - `pnpm test:run` — server and UI suites passed; one CLI AWS doctor test was affected by inherited `AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID`/`AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY`, and passed when those host credentials were removed - `pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` with inherited AWS credential variables removed — 8 tests passed - `pnpm build` - `pnpm check:token-gates` currently reports nine `#9627` comment references introduced by current `master`; none are in this PR diff ## Risks - Database risk is limited by incrementally ordered, idempotent migrations and migration safety checks. - Summary generation creates normal issues/runs, so misconfiguration can produce failed slots; the UI exposes retryable failure reasons and agent configuration entry points. - Streaming draft parsing depends on the documented `STATUS:` protocol; final persisted revisions remain the source of truth. - The feature is experimental, opt-in, and its built-in routine is paused with no background token spend by default. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5.3 Codex with reasoning, repository tool use, code execution, GitHub CLI, and Paperclip control-plane integration. Earlier branch commits also record Claude model co-authorship where applicable. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

perf(ui): event-source the company live-runs list (Phase 1) (#9627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its web UI keeps live views fresh with React Query, coordinated by a live-events websocket (`/api/companies/:id/events/ws`) and cross-tab polling > - We already cut the worst live-update churn (#9569, #9624), but the deeper issue is that even the "push" path is *push-the-signal, pull-the-data*: a websocket event triggers `invalidateQueries` → an HTTP refetch > - The company live-runs list (`queryKeys.liveRuns`) is the most-observed resource — the sidebar renders it on nearly every page — so its refetch is the most ambient source of churn, fired on every `heartbeat.run.queued` / `heartbeat.run.status` event > - Those events already carry enough (`runId`, `status`) to update the cached list directly, so this pull request event-sources that list instead of refetching it > - The benefit is that the always-observed live-runs list stops refetching on run lifecycle events — the first concrete step of the push-over-poll redesign ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists; describing inline per CONTRIBUTING.md → "Link Issues or Describe Them In-PR", following the bug report template. This continues the memory/CPU-churn work from #9569 and #9624. **What happened?** Live agent-run tabs accrue high idle CPU and off-heap memory because live-update events cause HTTP refetches. Profiling showed the company live-runs list — observed on almost every page via the sidebar — being refetched on every run status change, one of the most frequent ambient refetches. **Expected behavior** A websocket event that already carries the changed data should update the cached list directly, without an HTTP round-trip, so the always-observed live-runs list does no refetch on routine run lifecycle events. **Steps to reproduce** Open the app with agents running and watch the network panel: `GET /api/companies/:id/live-runs` fires on each `heartbeat.run.status` / `heartbeat.run.queued` event even though the event payload already describes the change. **Paperclip version or commit** Branch `perf/live-runs-event-sourced`, off `master` (after #9624). **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`), web UI. Core UI live-updates plumbing; not adapter-specific. ## What Changed - **`ui/src/lib/live-runs-cache.ts` (new)** — pure `removeRunFromList` / `patchRunStatusInList` helpers for the cached `LiveRunForIssue[]`. - **`ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.tsx`** — on `heartbeat.run.queued` / `heartbeat.run.status`, patch `liveRuns(companyId)` in place instead of invalidating it: - terminal status → remove the run from the list, - status change on a run already in the list → update it in place, - a genuinely new run (can't be reconstructed from the event) → fall back to a single `invalidateQueries` refetch. - Removed the blanket `liveRuns` invalidation from `invalidateHeartbeatQueries`. - On websocket **reconnect**, refetch `liveRuns` once to reconcile events missed while disconnected (durable replay is a later phase). - Other resources these events invalidate (`dashboard`, `costs`, `sidebarBadges`, `agents.list`, agent detail) are unchanged — they're lower-frequency / less-often-observed and are follow-up phases. This keeps the change scoped and **client-only** (no server changes). ## Verification - `vitest`: new `live-runs-cache.test.ts` (remove/patch/no-op/undefined) and new lifecycle-handler cases in `LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` (terminal→remove, present→patch, new→needs-refetch) via `__liveUpdatesTestUtils`. All existing `LiveUpdatesProvider` tests still pass (33 total across the two files). - `tsc -b` clean. - Runtime: the event-sourced path is covered by unit tests; end-to-end refetch reduction should be re-measured against a rebuilt bundle with the network panel / MCP instrumentation. ## Risks Low, and client-only. - **Staleness across a dropped connection:** an event missed while the socket is down isn't replayed yet, so the reconnect handler refetches `liveRuns` once to reconcile. Durable event replay (Last-Event-ID) is a planned later phase; until then reconnect-reconcile covers the gap. - **New-run fallback:** a genuinely new run still triggers one refetch (it can't be reconstructed from the event alone), so no new runs are missed. - Aggregate resources (dashboard/costs/badges) are untouched and still invalidate (already coalesced), so their behavior is unchanged. Follow-up phases (from the design discussion): event-source `activity`/comments and the remaining class-B resources; give pure-poll resources events and drop their intervals; add durable event sequence + reconnect replay; and a shared bus (Postgres `LISTEN/NOTIFY`) only when the API tier scales to >1 replica. ## Model Used - **Provider:** Anthropic, via the Claude Code CLI. - **Model:** Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`). - **Reasoning mode:** Extended thinking enabled. - **Capabilities used:** tool use (shell, file editing), sub-agent fan-out to inventory the client polling and server push infrastructure, and the Chrome DevTools MCP to reproduce/profile the churn that motivated this redesign. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work (a perf/plumbing change, not planned core feature work) - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above (continues #9569 / #9624; no duplicates) - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (N/A — no user-facing docs; rationale documented inline) - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

perf(ui): cut live-updates churn that inflates tab memory (#9624)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its web UI keeps live views (issue threads, run transcripts, dashboard) fresh via React Query polling plus a live-events websocket, coordinated across tabs with a `BroadcastChannel` layer > - Long-lived tabs viewing live agent runs grew to multi-GB memory footprints while their JS heap stayed ~60–200 MB — so the memory is off-heap (Blink/native + committed allocator arenas), not a classic JS leak > - Live profiling of a reproduced 2.7 GB / 66 MB tab showed 15–30% idle CPU, ~3 fetches/sec across overlapping poll loops, and ~8 `setInterval` create/clear cycles per second whose rate grew ~7× as the tab aged — relentless allocation churn that inflates committed memory the OS never reclaims, amplified across tabs by the cross-tab fan-out > - This pull request cuts that churn at its four largest sources (invalidation storm, per-instance 1 s timers, redundant polling, unbounded streamed-run set) > - The benefit is that idle tabs do far less periodic work, so their off-heap footprint stops ballooning over a long session ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists; describing inline per CONTRIBUTING.md → "Link Issues or Describe Them In-PR", following the bug report template. **What happened?** Browser tabs viewing live agent runs grew to 8–16 GB memory footprint over a long session (multiple tabs open), while each tab's "live" JS heap stayed only ~150–250 MB. Every idle tab also burned 15–30% CPU. Tabs eventually approached the ~4 GB V8 heap ceiling / OS pressure and could crash. **Expected behavior** Tabs viewing live runs should hold a bounded footprint and do minimal work while idle, regardless of how long they stay open or how many tabs are open. **Steps to reproduce** Open several issue/run tabs that have agents actively streaming and leave them open for a while. Watch Chrome's Task Manager: Memory Footprint climbs into the GBs while "JavaScript Memory" stays small, and CPU stays high on idle tabs. Reproduced in ~90 minutes: a tab reached 2.7 GB footprint on a 66 MB JS heap, and the per-second timer-churn rate was ~7× higher on a 90-minute-old tab than a fresh one. **Paperclip version or commit** Branch `fix/live-updates-churn`, off `master`. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`), web UI. Not adapter-specific — core UI live-updates plumbing (observed with `claude_local` / `codex_local` runs). ## What Changed - **`ui/src/lib/query-invalidation-batcher.ts` (new)** — `createInvalidationBatcher` throttles + de-dupes React Query invalidations into one flush per ~300 ms, and `createCoalescingQueryClient` wraps the client via a `Proxy` so only `invalidateQueries` is batched (optimistic `setQueryData` writes stay immediate). Wired into `LiveUpdatesProvider`, which previously invalidated synchronously on every websocket event. - **`ui/src/hooks/useSecondTick.ts` (new)** — one shared, ref-counted, page-wide 1 s ticker. `useLiveElapsed` in `IssueChatThread` now uses it instead of a per-instance `setInterval` that forced a full-thread re-render every second per live element. - **`ui/src/components/transcript/useLiveRunTranscripts.ts`** — when the realtime websocket is enabled, the recurring log poll backs off to a 30 s safety-net cadence instead of polling every 2 s on top of the live stream. Added a marker for the durable poll→push rearchitecture. - **`ui/src/lib/issueChatTranscriptRuns.ts`** — `resolveIssueChatTranscriptRuns` now caps the streamed run set (live/active runs always kept; most-recent linked runs fill up to 20) so a large run history can't open a live-transcript poll per historical run. - **`ui/src/main.tsx`** — explicit `gcTime` so cross-tab-published cache entries for unobserved resources are collected promptly. - Tests for the batcher, shared ticker, and run cap. ## Verification - `vitest`: new suites `query-invalidation-batcher.test.ts` (batcher collapses 20 invalidations → 1 flush; keeps distinct keys/variants; dispose cancels; proxy passes non-invalidate methods through), `useSecondTick.test.tsx` (single ref-counted timer, stops when idle), `issueChatTranscriptRuns.test.ts` (cap keeps newest + live). All pass. - Existing affected suites pass: `LiveUpdatesProvider` (23), `IssueChatThread` (), `useLiveRunTranscripts`, `AgentDetail.instructions` — 109 tests across affected files. - `tsc -b` clean. - Behavior confirmed by live profiling before the change (2.7 GB / 66 MB tab, ~8 interval churns/sec growing 7× with age). Runtime churn reduction should be re-measured against a rebuilt bundle with the same instrumentation. ## Risks Low-to-moderate; all changes reduce work rather than add features. - **Invalidation batching** delays live-driven refetches by up to ~300 ms. Optimistic `setQueryData` writes (e.g. the visible issue's new comment) remain immediate, so foreground updates still feel instant; only the safety-net refetch is throttled. Non-live invalidations (user actions, mutations) are unaffected — they use the real client. - **Poll back-off** relies on the websocket as the live source when realtime is enabled; a 30 s fallback poll still covers gaps/reconnects (both the transcript hook and `LiveUpdatesProvider` also auto-reconnect). - **Run cap (20)** means an issue with a very large run history streams live transcripts only for its live/active + 20 most-recent runs; older runs still open normally via their run pages. - Downstream test fallout (timing-sensitive tests around invalidation/polling) may need adjustment — flagged intentionally for follow-up. Durable follow-up (out of scope, marked in code): replace transcript/run polling with server push (SSE/websocket deltas) so idle tabs do no periodic work at all. ## Model Used - **Provider:** Anthropic, via the Claude Code CLI. - **Model:** Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`). - **Reasoning mode:** Extended thinking enabled. - **Capabilities used:** tool use (shell, file editing), sub-agent fan-out for codebase analysis, and the Chrome DevTools MCP to reproduce and profile the memory/CPU churn on a live instance. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work (a bug/perf fix, not planned core feature work) - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above (none found) - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g.

Fix agent sidebar liveness churn (#9358)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI includes an agents sidebar so operators can see which agents are currently active. > - That sidebar depends on live-run polling, heartbeat events, and cross-tab cache sharing to stay current without overloading the API. > - The sidebar was visually churning because agents could leave the live section immediately after a run ended, while progress events and cross-tab broadcasts kept forcing hot query updates. > - This pull request stabilizes live sidebar membership and makes shared polling broadcasts monotonic/deduplicated. > - The benefit is a calmer operator sidebar that still reflects real live state without flashing between stale and fresh snapshots. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this operator-facing bug. Bug summary: - What happened: the agents sidebar could flash or reshuffle around active agents while live-run and heartbeat data was updating. - Expected behavior: active and recently-active agents should remain visually stable, and cross-tab cache sharing should not overwrite fresher data with older snapshots. - Reproduction context: run Paperclip with multiple tabs or rapid live-run/progress updates and watch the agents sidebar while agents enter/leave live execution. - Deployment mode: local/operator board UI. Related PR: - Supersedes #9357, which carried the same fixes on a branch/title/body that were not suitable for public contribution hygiene. ## What Changed - Restored the maintainer-only warning wording in the developer skill guide so the existing server skill-utils CI gate passes on current master. - Added a 120-second linger window for streamlined sidebar agent rows so an agent does not immediately disappear from the live section as soon as its last run ends. - Deferred the recent-agent fallback until there are no live or lingering agents, while keeping the live badge tied only to actually-live runs. - Stopped broad live-runs/heartbeats/agents-list invalidation on every run progress event, while preserving targeted agent-detail invalidation. - Added producer timestamps to cross-tab shared polling result messages so older-or-equal snapshots are dropped before `setQueryData`. - Added per-resource broadcast dedupe/rate limiting so tabs do not rebroadcast equivalent cached data in a loop. - Added focused coverage for sidebar linger behavior, staggered multi-agent linger expiry, live update invalidation scope, shared polling timestamp handling, and cross-tab broadcast dedupe. ## Verification Run locally on the rebased PR branch: - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` — 44 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/lib/cross-tab-poll.test.ts src/hooks/useSharedPolling.test.ts` — 10 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — exit code 0. ## Risks - Low migration risk: the sidebar/polling changes are UI/client cache behavior only, with no database or API contract changes. - Sidebar visibility now intentionally lingers for 120 seconds after the last live run; stale rows could remain briefly visible, but their live badge is removed when they are no longer actually live. - Cross-tab broadcasts are now more conservative; a missed publish should be corrected by the next normal poll or accepted newer timestamp. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 Codex via the Paperclip Codex coding-agent runtime; exact API model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this environment. The agent used terminal/tool execution for repository inspection, focused tests, branch preparation, and PR creation.

Cases: experimental first-class case object (#9198)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board currently uses issues for execution, but longer-lived content work needs a separate object that can survive beyond a single task thread. > - The Cases subsystem adds an experimental, company-scoped record for content artifacts and their supporting metadata. > - The backend needs durable storage, API routes, revision history, issue linkage, and company-boundary enforcement before the UI can depend on Cases. > - The UI needs an opt-in navigation surface, list/detail views, reference chips, and issue-page context so operators can inspect Cases without making them the default workflow. > - The agent-facing skills need a contract for creating and updating Cases so automated content workflows can dogfood the feature. > - This pull request ships that experimental end-to-end path behind the `enableCases` flag. > - The benefit is a first-class place to collect content work, references, attachments, revisions, and related execution threads without polluting the core issue model. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this experimental feature. Feature request fields: ### Problem Content-oriented work such as release notes, announcements, docs, and campaigns can span many execution issues, which makes the final artifact hard to find and reason about after the execution thread moves on. ### Proposed solution Add an experimental Cases object that is company-scoped, linked to issues, queryable through the API, inspectable in the board UI, and writable by agent workflows through documented conventions. ### Alternatives considered Continue encoding content artifacts directly in issues or documents only. That keeps the data model smaller, but it does not give operators a stable artifact-centric view or a clean way to link related execution history. ### Roadmap alignment Checked `ROADMAP.md`; this PR does not duplicate an existing planned core roadmap item. ## What Changed - Added the `cases` data model, migration, schema exports, and experimental `enableCases` instance setting. - Added company-scoped Cases API routes for list/detail/update, issue links, revisions, children, activity events, annotations, attachments, and idempotent agent-oriented upserts. - Scoped case and issue lookup helpers before access checks so inaccessible cross-company identifiers resolve as not found rather than leaking existence. - Fixed case PATCH timestamp handling so non-status updates cannot overwrite `completedAt` from a stale pre-transaction row snapshot. - Moved Cases list type/status/project filters into the server request before the server-side limit is applied, including multi-select filters and no-project filtering. - Added backend route coverage for creation, updates, idempotency, issue linking, attribution, company-boundary enforcement, OpenAPI registration, list filtering, timestamp patch behavior, and inaccessible lookup regressions. - Added the experimental Cases UI surface: sidebar entry, gated routes, list filters/grouping, detail overview, activity, revisions, children, attachments, and issue-page case rail. - Added case reference rendering and company-prefixed case href generation so case links resolve directly inside the active company route. - Added Paperclip skill documentation for agent workflows that create or update Cases. - Wired release-content skills to emit Cases for dogfooding. - Rebased onto current `master` and renumbered the Cases migrations to `0143`/`0144` after the latest upstream migration sequence. ## Verification - Current PR head: `ecc13be0d`. - Rebased on current `master` (`606aa4f266`) and pushed to the existing PR branch. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` — passed before the first update push; subsequent committed diffs were also checked with `git diff --check` before commit. - Guardrails checked: no `pnpm-lock.yaml` changes, no `.github/workflows` changes, and changed-file count is below the Greptile 100-file limit. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/cases-routes.test.ts src/__tests__/instance-settings-service.test.ts src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` — passed, 3 files / 26 tests before review-fix commits. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/cases-routes.test.ts` — passed after each server-side Greptile fix, latest 1 file / 15 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed after the timestamp and lookup fixes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/Cases.test.tsx src/pages/CaseDetail.test.tsx src/pages/CompanySkills.test.tsx src/App.cases-routing.test.tsx` — passed, 4 files / 30 tests before review-fix commits. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/Cases.test.tsx` — passed after the list-filter fix, 1 file / 12 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed after the list-filter fix. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed after UI changes. - Remote PR checks on head `ecc13be0d` are green: Paperclip CI, build, typecheck, test matrix, e2e, Canary Dry Run, policy, commit review, Superagent Security Scan, Socket, Snyk, and Greptile passed; Storybook visual regression is skipped and security-review is neutral. - Greptile Review: 5/5 confidence, zero unresolved Greptile threads. ## Risks - Medium feature risk because this introduces a new experimental domain object across database, server, shared contracts, skills, and UI. - The feature is gated behind `enableCases`, which limits default operator exposure while the model is exercised. - Case links now prefer company-prefixed hrefs; the unprefixed redirect remains for externally entered URLs. - Cases list filtering now sends multi-select filters to the server before limiting; the UI still applies the same local filters as a second pass for ancestor/context rows. - Migrations were renumbered on top of current master; the SQL uses guarded `IF NOT EXISTS` / `ADD COLUMN IF NOT EXISTS` patterns where relevant for safer replay. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 Codex in the Paperclip local coding environment was used for this PR curation, rebase verification, review-fix implementation, push, and PR description update. The runtime exposes tool use and shell execution; context-window size is not exposed by this Paperclip adapter. Several implementation commits also include AI co-author trailers recorded in git history. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I searched the GitHub PR list for similar PRs and confirmed this is not a duplicate - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix: run restart recovery, workspace self-heal, quota-aware retries, failed-run metrics (#9183)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents run in heartbeat runs orchestrated by the server; run
lifecycle, retry scheduling, and the dashboard's run-activity metrics
are the subsystems involved
> - A spike in "failed" tasks traced to three causes: server restarts
killing in-flight runs and mislabeling them as failures, deterministic
workspace-validation loops when a worktree's branch diverged, and
provider quota/usage-limit errors being classified as generic transient
failures (putting agents into error state and polluting metrics)
> - Killed-then-recovered runs and quota waits are not product failures,
so both the runtime behavior and the reporting needed to distinguish
them
> - This pull request drains runs gracefully on shutdown with idempotent
restart retries, self-heals workspace branch mismatches, adds a
quota-aware failure class with reset-time retry, separates recovered
restart kills from true failures on the dashboard, and documents restart
hygiene for operators
> - The benefit is fewer spurious failures, automatic recovery instead
of manual repair, and dashboard metrics that reflect real failure rates
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public GitHub issue exists; describing the bug inline per the
bug-report template:
**What happened?**
In-flight heartbeat runs are marked `failed` when the server restarts,
even though a retry later succeeds. Worktrees whose checked-out branch
diverges from the issue branch fail workspace validation on every
subsequent run with no recovery path. Provider quota/usage-limit
responses are treated as generic transient upstream errors, putting
agents into an error state and retrying before the quota window resets.
The dashboard counts all of these as true failures, inflating failure
metrics.
**Expected behavior**
Graceful shutdown should interrupt (not fail) running runs and chain
exactly one recovery retry. Workspace validation should repair
recoverable branch mismatches automatically. Quota errors should get
their own error class with the retry scheduled at the provider reset
time and the agent left idle. The dashboard should report recovered
restart kills separately from true failures.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start a heartbeat run, then restart the server (SIGTERM) while it is
in flight — the run lands as `failed` with a process-loss error code
even when its retry succeeds
2. Check out an issue whose worktree branch has diverged (e.g. after a
force-moved branch) — every subsequent run fails
`workspace_validation_failed` deterministically
3. Drive an agent into a provider usage-limit window — the run fails as
a generic transient upstream error and the agent enters an error state
instead of idling until the reset time

Improve live agent feedback during sandboxed runs (#8915)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - A core part of that experience is watching active agent runs without dropping into raw logs first > - Local and sandbox-backed adapters already record useful run output, progress, and tool activity > - But active issue threads could sit visually stale while the agent was syncing workspaces, tailing sandbox output, or emitting incremental tool-call updates > - Operators need timely, human-readable progress while preserving the raw transcript underneath > - This pull request streams sandbox run-log progress into runtime status, keeps visible issue threads refreshed, and folds repeated ACPX tool updates into stable transcript cards > - The benefit is that long-running agent work becomes easier to supervise without changing the task/comment control-plane model ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this exact change. Problem/motivation: - During long-running sandboxed agent work, the issue UI can appear idle even though the agent is actively syncing, running tools, or producing incremental output. - Operators need realtime feedback at the issue-thread layer, not only after opening raw logs or waiting for the final heartbeat result. - Related public context: #1808 previously added live-run status dots to Projects; #4362 touches heartbeat wakeup behavior but is not a duplicate of this runtime/UI feedback change. ## What Changed - Added sandbox run-log streaming support and defaulted sandbox-capable local adapters into the richer live-feedback path. - Surfaced environment/sandbox sync progress through heartbeat runtime status with bounded, redacted snippets. - Added live issue-thread cache patching so visible active runs update as progress events arrive. - Folded repeated ACPX `tool_call` updates into one transcript card instead of stacking duplicate cards. - Updated adapter docs and added focused regression coverage for sandbox log streaming, runtime status, ACPX parsing, live updates, transcript rendering, and issue chat messages. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/heartbeat-run-runtime-status.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-runtime-state.test.ts ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/execution-target-sandbox.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts server/src/services/heartbeat-run-runtime-status.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-live-run-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-runtime-state.test.ts packages/adapters/acpx-local/src/ui/parse-stdout.test.ts ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/components/transcript/RunTranscriptView.test.tsx ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx` - GitHub PR workflow on head `8397953e7b41ccd42e5d9457ee7e4dfb996e4ec5`: `verify`, build, typecheck/release-registry, e2e, general shards, serialized server shards, and canary dry run passed. - Greptile Review on head `8397953e7b41ccd42e5d9457ee7e4dfb996e4ec5`: Confidence Score 5/5, no unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Live issue-thread cache patching could miss an edge case for a route shape not covered by tests. - Surfacing active-run snippets needs continued care around redaction; this PR keeps snippets bounded and adds redaction-focused coverage. - More frequent active-run UI refreshes could expose performance issues on very large issue threads, though updates are scoped to visible run/query caches. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex, operating as a tool-enabled coding agent with shell, git, and repository-editing capabilities. Context window size is not exposed in this runtime.

Add ephemeral sandbox runtime status plumbing (#8593)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Sandboxed agent runs can spend meaningful time preparing a remote workspace before the agent transcript shows useful output. > - Operators need short, current progress text for those setup phases, but that text should not become durable run history. > - The existing live-run websocket path already carries run updates to the UI, so the backend can reuse that channel instead of adding polling. > - This pull request adds an ephemeral runtime-progress contract, a process-local status store, and heartbeat integration for sandbox-managed runs. > - The benefit is a clearer active-run experience without database migrations or persistent progress rows. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #248 No exact public GitHub issue was found for this status-message plumbing. The underlying problem is that active sandboxed runs currently have setup phases, such as workspace sync and restore, where the operator cannot see concise current progress through the live run state. This PR addresses that gap for the backend/runtime layer while keeping progress messages ephemeral. GitHub search performed for related or duplicate work: `sandbox runtime status`, `sandbox restore index`, and `runtime progress`. No direct duplicate PR was found. ## What Changed - Added shared runtime-progress types and the `heartbeat.run.progress` live event type. - Added a process-local heartbeat run runtime-status store with TTL, bounded/redacted messages, and terminal cleanup. - Threaded runtime progress callbacks through heartbeat execution and active/live run serialization. - Emitted sandbox-managed runtime phase updates for sync, adapter startup, restore/export, and finalization paths. - Added backend and adapter-utils tests for ephemeral status behavior, terminal cleanup, live serialization, and sandbox progress callbacks. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - Local PII scan before push: high-confidence secret patterns, internal issue links, local user paths, and private URL patterns checked across all three split diffs; no real secrets or internal links found. The only secret-like text is an intentional fake test fixture (`sk-test-secret`). - `git diff --check origin/master..feat/sandbox-runtime-status` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/heartbeat-run-runtime-status.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-runtime-state.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-live-run-routes.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts` — 4 files, 23 tests passed. - `pnpm run typecheck` passed on both top stacks that include this branch: `feat/sandbox-status-ui` and `fix/sandbox-restore-index-sync`. - `pnpm run build` passed on both top stacks that include this branch; Vite reported existing CSS `::highlight` and chunk-size warnings. - `pnpm run test:run` was attempted on `fix/sandbox-restore-index-sync`; it failed in two unrelated broad-suite tests. One depends on this host's Git default branch behavior, and one depends on local Claude model-discovery environment. The changed focused suites above pass. ## Risks - Runtime progress is process-local by design, so status disappears after TTL, terminal cleanup, or server restart. - Clients that do not consume `heartbeat.run.progress` simply keep existing behavior. - Message redaction is intentionally generic; overly specific phase details should stay out of runtime-progress payloads. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex coding agent, with shell/tool execution in a local worktree. feat(control-plane): add annotation and workspace controls (#8229)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI-agent companies. > - The control plane coordinates issues, workspaces, documents, routines, and board review flows across company-scoped data. > - The local source branch contained related schema, service, and UI changes for workspace issue scoping and document/routine annotations. > - These changes need to move together because db schema, shared types, server services, and UI consumers form one contract. > - This pull request extracts the migration-bearing control-plane work from the source branch onto `origin/master`. > - The benefit is a standalone branch with deterministic migration order and focused review for the highest-risk part of the split. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No GitHub issue exists for this branch split. Internal source task: [PAP-11234](/PAP/issues/PAP-11234). Problem/motivation: - Workspace operations need explicit issue scoping so readiness and blocker handling can be derived correctly. - Document annotations need reliable live updates, save failure surfacing, normalized activity keys, and better comment panel behavior. - Routine descriptions need the same annotation contract as issue documents so operators can discuss and edit routine text without special-case infrastructure. Proposed solution: - Add the workspace-operation `issueId` migration and readiness scoping. - Add routine document/annotation schema, shared types, services, routes, and UI editing support. - Keep the related migrations in one PR so the renumbered `0106` and `0107` migrations land in a deterministic order after current `master`. Alternatives considered: - Split migrations into separate PRs, rejected because that would create migration-numbering conflicts and make each branch less standalone. - Merge this with UI polish, rejected because this branch needs deeper server/db review. Roadmap alignment: - Checked `ROADMAP.md`; the roadmap mentions future recurring routine capabilities generally, but no duplicate implementation PR for these annotation/workspace changes was found. ## What Changed - Added `0106_workspace_operations_issue_id.sql` and `0107_routine_description_annotations.sql`, plus schema exports. - Scoped workspace readiness to blocker issues and attached workspace operation issue ids. - Scoped issue-thread interaction accept finalization to the source run. - Added routine document annotation contracts across db/shared/server/UI. - Improved document annotation live updates, activity-key normalization, save failure surfacing, and comment panel behavior. - Added issue workspace property controls and compact blocked-by/quick-control UI updates. - Added focused server and UI regression tests for the new contracts. ## Verification - `CI=true NODE_ENV=development pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --prefer-offline` - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest server/src/__tests__/document-annotation-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interactions-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routine-document-annotation-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/WorkspaceRuntimeControls.test.tsx ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts --run` — 10 files, 273 tests passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r --filter @paperclipai/db --filter @paperclipai/shared --filter @paperclipai/server --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed, including db migration numbering check. ## Risks - Migration-bearing PR; merge this branch before any later PR that adds migrations with higher numbers. - Cross-layer contract risk across db/shared/server/ui, mitigated with targeted tests and affected-package typecheck. - Review should pay special attention to company scoping in new routine/document annotation paths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. fix: upstream deployed document-comment, routine-annotation, workspace & board-polling fixes (#8536)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - This change touches several already-shipped subsystems — document-comment annotations, the selected-agent Conference Room chat surface, routine description annotations, workspace-operation tracking, and the board polling/inbox UI > - A batch of incremental fixes and two small backend additions had accumulated on a local mainline and were deployed to a live instance, but never landed upstream — so each `origin/master` sync kept re-diverging > - Leaving them un-upstreamed means the same delta has to be re-merged on every sync and risks being lost or silently reverted > - This pull request rebases that delta cleanly on top of current `origin/master` (preserving recent upstream work such as reusable sandbox leases and the relation-list collapse controls) and brings it up for review > - The benefit is that mainline and the deployed instance converge, and these fixes/additions get normal review + CI + Greptile coverage ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No single GitHub issue tracks this; it is a bundle of bug fixes and two small feature additions. Following the issue-template fields: **Bug fixes (what was wrong → what this does):** - Document comments rendered out of document order, didn't live-update across clients, swallowed save failures, and lost the markdown text selection on re-render. Now: doc-order sort, live updates, surfaced save-failure state, stable selection across re-renders. - The board polling hot path returned oversized payloads on every poll. Now: an opt-in `summary` projection trims the heartbeat-run list payload. - Assorted UI fixes: sidebar nav peek/streamlining edge cases, markdown file-viewer re-mount/line-height issues on iOS Safari, inbox badge/skill deep-link tab selection, and `⌘.` work-mode cycling on iOS. **Feature additions:** - `workspace_operations.issue_id` — associate a workspace operation with the issue that triggered it (new migration `0106`, schema, service, shared type). - Routine **description annotations** — comment threads on a routine's description document, mirroring issue document annotations (new migration `0107`, `routine_documents` schema, routes/service, editable-sections UI). - Selected-agent **Conference Room chat** surface wiring and live issue-thread updates. **Related PR:** #8229 (`feat(control-plane): add annotation and workspace controls`, draft) covers overlapping annotation/workspace-control territory — flagging it so a reviewer can reconcile the two rather than double-merging. ## What Changed - `feat(workspace)`: `workspace_operations.issue_id` migration + schema/service/type; issue workspace property controls reconciled with upstream's evolved "Service" row. - `feat(routines)`: routine description annotations — `routine_documents` schema, migration `0107`, routes/service, `editable-sections` UI. - `fix(document-comments)`: doc-order sort, live updates, save-failure surfacing, stable markdown selection (+ storybook story, rerender test). - `feat(chat)`: selected-agent Conference Room chat surface and live issue-thread updates (`LiveUpdatesProvider`, `issue-chat-messages`, interactions service). - `perf(board)`: opt-in `summary` projection for the board polling/heartbeat-run list payload, plus assorted sidebar / file-viewer / inbox / IssueProperties UI fixes. Organized into 5 logical commits. Migrations are numbered incrementally after upstream's latest (`0105`) — `0106` then `0107`, no journal collision. ## Verification - Built by 3-way merging the deployed delta onto current `origin/master`; the only merge conflict (`IssueProperties.test.tsx`, two adjacent test blocks) was resolved in favor of upstream's evolved "green service link above the workspace row" layout, which matches the merged component's rendered output. - Confirmed recent upstream work is preserved post-merge: reusable sandbox lease teardown (`#8513`), the IssueProperties relation-list collapse controls, and the sidebar streamlined-nav default. - Confirmed the net diff vs `origin/master` is exactly the intended feature delta (65 files) and that overlapping server files (`issues.ts`, `agents.ts`, `heartbeat.ts`) only add feature code without disturbing upstream logic. - This delta is already running on a live deployed instance. - Full typecheck/test suite + Greptile to run in CI (see checklist). ## Risks - Two new migrations (`0106`, `0107`). Both are additive (new table / new nullable column) and ordered after upstream's `0105`; no data backfill, low risk. If another migration-bearing PR merges first, renumber before merge. - Largest blast radius is in the merged overlapping UI/service files; covered by the existing test suites for those files plus CI. - Overlaps thematically with draft PR #8229 — reviewers should reconcile rather than merge both blindly. ## Model Used Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`), extended thinking, with tool use (git, shell). Agentic coding workflow. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI is the operator surface where users create, assign, monitor, and review work items. > - The product language is moving toward "tasks" for user-facing work items while the internal API and database still use "issues". > - PR #7543 bundled this copy migration with broader information-architecture work, which made the branch too large for Greptile review. > - This pull request peels the Issue-to-Task copy migration into a smaller, independently reviewable change. > - The benefit is clearer user-facing terminology, less agent confusion via the Paperclip skill note, and a smaller PR that Greptile can review. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #7645 Refs #7543 Refs PAP-10430 This PR was split out of #7543 so the Issue-to-Task copy migration can be reviewed separately and the remaining IA PR can fall under Greptile's file limit. ## What Changed - Preserves Scott Tong's original `PAP-57` copy-only commit, with author and co-author credit intact, to rename user-facing "Issues" copy to "Tasks" across the UI while keeping routes/API/internal symbols as `issue`. - Updates onboarding and release-smoke browser selectors from `Create & Open Issue` to `Create & Open Task`. - Adds a terminology note to `skills/paperclip/SKILL.md` clarifying that task and issue refer to the same Paperclip work item. - Resolves the only cherry-pick conflict by keeping current search artifacts support and changing visible search copy to "tasks". ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx` passed: 4 files, 66 tests. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passed. - Diff is 80 files, below Greptile's 100-file limit. - Before/after UI copy examples: "Issues" -> "Tasks", "New Issue" -> "New Task", "Create & Open Issue" -> "Create & Open Task". ## Risks - Medium copy-risk: this intentionally changes user-facing terminology broadly while keeping internal issue identifiers and routes unchanged. - Some docs and APIs still say `issue`; the skill note clarifies this so agents do not treat task and issue as separate entities. - Browser-level visual validation is expected from CI because this local container is missing usable browser dependencies. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used Scott Tong authored the original `PAP-57` copy migration, assisted by Claude Opus 4.8 and Paperclip agents per the preserved commit metadata. Codex / GPT-5-class coding agent with shell, GitHub CLI, and repository access performed the PR split, conflict resolution, skill note, and verification. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: scotttong <scott.tong@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add resource membership controls (#6677)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI-agent companies through company-scoped issues, projects, agents, and board-visible workflows. > - The board sidebar and project list are the daily navigation surface for that control plane. > - Users need to keep all projects and agents accessible while hiding resources they have intentionally left from their own sidebar. > - That requires user-scoped resource membership state backed by company-scoped API and database contracts. > - The branch also needed to preserve HTTP worktree login sessions and keep the project list easier to scan after membership grouping. > - This pull request adds resource membership controls, sidebar leave actions, grouped/sortable project listings, and focused tests. > - The benefit is a cleaner personal workspace view without weakening company-scoped access to the underlying project or agent detail pages. ## What Changed - Added `project_memberships` and `agent_memberships` tables with API/shared/server contracts for current-user join/leave state. - Renumbered the membership migration to `0090_resource_memberships` after rebasing onto current `master`, and made it idempotent for anyone who had applied the old branch-local `0087` migration. - Added project and agent sidebar leave actions, plus list filtering that waits for membership state before hiding resources. - Added grouped project listing, project sorting controls, and reserved row subtitle height for cleaner scanning. - Fixed HTTP auth cookie security handling so HTTP worktree sessions can persist. - Updated focused server and UI tests for the new membership, sidebar, project list, and auth behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/better-auth.test.ts server/src/__tests__/resource-memberships-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/Projects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/MembershipAction.test.tsx ui/src/components/EntityRow.test.tsx` - Confirmed the branch is rebased on current `origin/master`. - Confirmed the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Migration safety: low to medium. The migration now uses `IF NOT EXISTS` / guarded constraints and is numbered after current master migrations, but it should still get CI coverage against fresh databases. - UI behavior: low. Left resources are hidden from sidebar only after membership state loads; direct detail access remains available. - Auth behavior: low. Cookie security is relaxed only for HTTP/private local-style origins where secure cookies would prevent login persistence. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 Codex coding agent, tool-enabled shell/git workflow, context window not exposed by runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Screenshot note: no browser screenshots were captured in this heartbeat; the UI changes are covered by focused component tests above. --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add agent permissions and controls plan (#6386)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies by keeping task ownership, approvals, and operator control inside one control plane. > - Agent permissions and plugin-hosted company settings sit on the boundary between autonomy and governance. > - V1 needs scoped task assignment rules, plugin extension points, and clearer company access surfaces without weakening company boundaries. > - The branch builds the core authorization service, plugin SDK/host APIs, and UI simplifications needed to support those controls. > - Paperclip EE plugin surfaces were intentionally moved out of this core PR per review direction, so this PR now carries only the public core/plugin infrastructure work. > - The latest updates preserve the PAP-9937 branch changes that belong in this PR, remove the `design/` artifacts, and exclude the experimental `plugin-briefs` package. > - Greptile feedback was applied through the authorization/audit paths and the final cleanup commit was re-reviewed at 5/5 with no unresolved Greptile threads. > - The benefit is safer assignment control with extension hooks for richer permission products while preserving simple defaults for normal operators. ## What Changed - Added scoped task-assignment authorization decisions and routed issue/agent assignment mutations through the authorization service. - Added plugin SDK and host APIs for company settings slots, authorization policy/grant management, assignment previews, and bridge invocation scope propagation. - Simplified core company access UI and moved advanced controls behind plugin-provided settings surfaces. - Added retry-now affordances for blocked issue next-step notices. - Added protected-assignment enforcement for persisted agent/project/issue policies, including explicit-grant fallback behavior. - Added incremental principal-access compatibility backfill for active agent memberships and role-default human permission grants. - Added the Markdown code block wrap action fix from the latest branch changes. - Removed `design/` artifacts from the PR and removed `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs` from the final diff. - Addressed Greptile feedback for plugin actor sanitization, legacy membership handling, audit pagination, unknown grant-scope metadata, and startup test mocks. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 2 files passed, 54 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 62 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-access-authorization-host-services.test.ts server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 28 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` -> passed. - `git diff --check` -> passed. - `node ./scripts/check-docker-deps-stage.mjs` -> passed. - `CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` -> passed with no lockfile update. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.interaction.test.tsx` -> 1 test passed. - `git ls-files design packages/plugins/plugin-briefs | wc -l` -> 0. - GitHub CI on `40cd83b53` -> all checks passed, merge state `CLEAN`. - Greptile on `40cd83b53` -> 5/5, 102 files reviewed, 0 comments/annotations added, 0 unresolved review threads. - Confirmed the PR diff contains no `design/`, `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs`, `pnpm-lock.yaml`, or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Medium: task assignment authorization paths are behaviorally stricter for protected/private policy data, so existing plugin-authored policies may block assignment until explicit grants or approval flows are configured. - Medium: plugin-host authorization APIs expand the surface area available to trusted plugins and need careful review for company scoping. - Low: startup now performs a principal-access compatibility backfill, but the migration and runtime backfill use conflict-tolerant inserts. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] Refresh issue documents from live updates (#6005)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - The board UI keeps issue pages responsive by subscribing to live activity events and invalidating TanStack Query caches. > - Issue documents are first-class issue artifacts, but document activity events were not refreshing the document list, active document, or revision caches. > - That meant a user could update a document on an issue and another open board would keep showing stale document content until a page reload. > - This pull request routes issue document activity events through the same live invalidation path used for issue and comment updates. > - The benefit is that issue document changes become visible automatically on active issue pages without forcing operators to reload the board. ## What Changed - Added live-update cache invalidation for `issue.document_created`, `issue.document_updated`, `issue.document_restored`, and `issue.document_deleted` activity events. - Invalidated the issue document list, the active document cache, and document revisions for both issue id and identifier references when the activity payload includes a document key. - Added regression coverage for document activity events so active issue pages refetch document caches without inactive-only behavior. - Simplified the document invalidation test mock after Greptile feedback so the test only models the cache reads it actually uses. ## Verification - `git rebase public-gh/master` reported the branch was up to date after fetching `public-gh/master`. - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links` passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/ui ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts` passed: 1 file, 16 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - PR checks passed on `eecd19f7b0355490f17314c94bffa06aada8f9e3`: `policy`, `verify`, `e2e`, all 4 serialized server shards, `Canary Dry Run`, `security/snyk`, and `Greptile Review`. - Greptile completed with `5/5` confidence and no unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Low risk. This expands cache invalidation for existing live activity events and does not change API contracts, database schema, migrations, or document persistence behavior. - No migrations or `pnpm-lock.yaml` changes are included. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Harden control-plane safety and issue identifiers (#5292)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip relies on issue identifiers, execution policies, and agent heartbeat rules to keep autonomous work auditable. > - Safety checks need to reject ambiguous agent handoffs, and identifier parsing needs to support Cloud tenant prefixes. > - Agent instructions also need to make final-disposition rules explicit so work does not stall in vague states. > - This pull request isolates backend correctness and governance hardening from the UI and recovery-system-notice branches. > - The benefit is safer in-review transitions, better identifier compatibility, and clearer agent operating contracts. ## What Changed - Fixed run-aware confirmation ordering and interrupted-run state cleanup. - Added Cloud tenant identity bootstrap and alphanumeric issue identifier support across shared parsing and server routes. - Guarded agent-authored `in_review` updates unless a real review path exists. - Tightened heartbeat disposition instructions in adapter utilities/default AGENTS/Paperclip skill. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/issue-references.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-identifier-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-execution-policy-routes.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts` initially had the first execution-policy test hit Vitest's 5s timeout under the parallel bundle while the rest passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-execution-policy-routes.test.ts --testTimeout=20000` passed with 10/10 tests. - Follow-up: `pnpm run typecheck:build-gaps` passed. - Follow-up: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - Follow-up: `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts server/src/__tests__/costs-service.test.ts` passed. - Follow-up: `pnpm vitest run ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-reference.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-timeline-events.test.ts` passed. ## Risks - Medium control-plane risk: in-review update validation changes agent behavior. The error message is explicit and tests cover allowed review paths. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 Codex via Paperclip `codex_local` adapter, with shell/git/GitHub CLI tool use. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add structured issue-thread interactions (#4244)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - Operators supervise that work through issues, comments, approvals, and the board UI. > - Some agent proposals need structured board/user decisions, not hidden markdown conventions or heavyweight governed approvals. > - Issue-thread interactions already provide a natural thread-native surface for proposed tasks and questions. > - This pull request extends that surface with request confirmations, richer interaction cards, and agent/plugin/MCP helpers. > - The benefit is that plan approvals and yes/no decisions become explicit, auditable, and resumable without losing the single-issue workflow. ## What Changed - Added persisted issue-thread interactions for suggested tasks, structured questions, and request confirmations. - Added board UI cards for interaction review, selection, question answers, and accept/reject confirmation flows. - Added MCP and plugin SDK helpers for creating interaction cards from agents/plugins. - Updated agent wake instructions, onboarding assets, Paperclip skill docs, and public docs to prefer structured confirmations for issue-scoped decisions. - Rebased the branch onto `public-gh/master` and renumbered branch migrations to `0063` and `0064`; the idempotency migration uses `ADD COLUMN IF NOT EXISTS` for old branch users. ## Verification - `git diff --check public-gh/master..HEAD` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts packages/mcp-server/src/tools.test.ts packages/shared/src/issue-thread-interactions.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-thread-interactions.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueThreadInteractionCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interaction-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interactions-service.test.ts server/src/services/issue-thread-interactions.test.ts` -> 9 files / 79 tests passed - `pnpm -r typecheck` -> passed, including `packages/db` migration numbering check ## Risks - Medium: this adds a new issue-thread interaction model across db/shared/server/ui/plugin surfaces. - Migration risk is reduced by placing this branch after current master migrations (`0063`, `0064`) and making the idempotency column add idempotent for users who applied the old branch numbering. - UI interaction behavior is covered by component tests, but this PR does not include browser screenshots. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-class coding agent runtime. [codex] Polish issue board workflows (#4224)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Human operators supervise that work through issue lists, issue detail, comments, inbox groups, markdown references, and profile/activity surfaces > - The branch had many small UI fixes that improve the operator loop but do not need to ship with backend runtime migrations > - These changes belong together as board workflow polish because they affect scanning, navigation, issue context, comment state, and markdown clarity > - This pull request groups the UI-only slice so it can merge independently from runtime/backend changes > - The benefit is a clearer board experience with better issue context, steadier optimistic updates, and more predictable keyboard navigation ## What Changed - Improves issue properties, sub-issue actions, blocker chips, and issue list/detail refresh behavior. - Adds blocker context above the issue composer and stabilizes queued/interrupted comment UI state. - Improves markdown issue/GitHub link rendering and opens external markdown links in a new tab. - Adds inbox group keyboard navigation and fold/unfold support. - Polishes activity/avatar/profile/settings/workspace presentation details. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/lib/optimistic-issue-comments.test.ts` ## Risks - Low to medium risk: changes are UI-focused but cover high-traffic issue and inbox surfaces. - This branch intentionally does not include the backend runtime changes from the companion PR; where UI calls newer API filters, unsupported servers should continue to fail visibly through existing API error handling. - Visual screenshots were not captured in this heartbeat; targeted component/helper tests cover the changed behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. feat: implement multi-user access and invite flows (#3784)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies. > - V1 needs to stay local-first while also supporting shared, authenticated deployments. > - Human operators need real identities, company membership, invite flows, profile surfaces, and company-scoped access controls. > - Agents and operators also need the existing issue, inbox, workspace, approval, and plugin flows to keep working under those authenticated boundaries. > - This branch accumulated the multi-user implementation, follow-up QA fixes, workspace/runtime refinements, invite UX improvements, release-branch conflict resolution, and review hardening. > - This pull request consolidates that branch onto the current `master` branch as a single reviewable PR. > - The benefit is a complete multi-user implementation path with tests and docs carried forward without dropping existing branch work. ## What Changed - Added authenticated human-user access surfaces: auth/session routes, company user directory, profile settings, company access/member management, join requests, and invite management. - Added invite creation, invite landing, onboarding, logo/branding, invite grants, deduped join requests, and authenticated multi-user E2E coverage. - Tightened company-scoped and instance-admin authorization across board, plugin, adapter, access, issue, and workspace routes. - Added profile-image URL validation hardening, avatar preservation on name-only profile updates, and join-request uniqueness migration cleanup for pending human requests. - Added an atomic member role/status/grants update path so Company Access saves no longer leave partially updated permissions. - Improved issue chat, inbox, assignee identity rendering, sidebar/account/company navigation, workspace routing, and execution workspace reuse behavior for multi-user operation. - Added and updated server/UI tests covering auth, invites, membership, issue workspace inheritance, plugin authz, inbox/chat behavior, and multi-user flows. - Merged current `public-gh/master` into this branch, resolved all conflicts, and verified no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is included in this PR diff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime-service-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-validators.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authz-company-access.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sidebar-preferences-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/approval-routes-idempotency.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openclaw-invite-prompt-route.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-cross-tenant-authz-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-e2e.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyAccess.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm db:generate` - `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts --list` - Confirmed branch has no uncommitted changes and is `0` commits behind `public-gh/master` before PR creation. - Confirmed no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is staged or present in the PR diff. ## Risks - High review surface area: this PR contains the accumulated multi-user branch plus follow-up fixes, so reviewers should focus especially on company-boundary enforcement and authenticated-vs-local deployment behavior. - UI behavior changed across invites, inbox, issue chat, access settings, and sidebar navigation; no browser screenshots are included in this branch-consolidation PR. - Plugin install, upgrade, and lifecycle/config mutations now require instance-admin access, which is intentional but may change expectations for non-admin board users. - A join-request dedupe migration rejects duplicate pending human requests before creating unique indexes; deployments with unusual historical duplicates should review the migration behavior. - Company member role/status/grant saves now use a new combined endpoint; older separate endpoints remain for compatibility. - Full production build was not run locally in this heartbeat; CI should cover the full matrix. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent, GPT-5-based model, CLI/tool-use environment. Exact deployed model identifier and context window were not exposed by the runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Note on screenshots: this is a branch-consolidation PR for an already-developed multi-user branch, and no browser screenshots were captured during this heartbeat. --------- Co-authored-by: dotta <dotta@example.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

[codex] improve issue and routine UI responsiveness (#3744)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Operators rely on issue, inbox, and routine views to understand what the company is doing in real time > - Those views need to stay fast and readable even when issue lists, markdown comments, and run metadata get large > - The current branch had a coherent set of UI and live-update improvements spread across issue search, issue detail rendering, routine affordances, and workspace lookups > - This pull request groups those board-facing changes into one standalone branch that can merge independently of the heartbeat/runtime work > - The benefit is a faster, clearer issue and routine workflow without changing the underlying task model ## What Changed - Show routine execution issues by default and rename the filter to `Hide routine runs` so the default state no longer looks like an active filter. - Show the routine name in the run dialog and tighten the issue properties pane with a workspace link, copy-on-click behavior, and an inline parent arrow. - Reduce issue detail rerenders, keep queued issue chat mounted, improve issues page search responsiveness, and speed up issues first paint. - Add inbox "other search results", refresh visible issue runs after status updates, and optimize workspace lookups through summary-mode execution workspace queries. - Improve markdown wrapping and scrolling behavior for long strings and self-comment code blocks. - Relax the markdown sanitizer assertion so the test still validates safety after the new wrap-friendly inline styles. ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/pages/Issues.test.tsx ui/src/context/BreadcrumbContext.test.tsx ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/api/execution-workspaces.test.ts server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-routes.test.ts` ## Risks - This touches several issue-facing UI surfaces at once, so regressions would most likely show up as stale rendering, search result mismatches, or small markdown presentation differences. - The workspace lookup optimization depends on the summary-mode route shape staying aligned between server and UI. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent in the Codex CLI environment. Exact backend model deployment ID was not exposed in-session. Tool-assisted editing and shell execution were used. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Harden execution reliability and heartbeat tooling (#3679)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Reliable execution depends on heartbeat routing, issue lifecycle semantics, telemetry, and a fast enough local verification loop to keep regressions visible > - The remaining commits on this branch were mostly server/runtime correctness fixes plus test and documentation follow-ups in that area > - Those changes are logically separate from the UI-focused issue-detail and workspace/navigation branches even when they touch overlapping issue APIs > - This pull request groups the execution reliability, heartbeat, telemetry, and tooling changes into one standalone branch > - The benefit is a focused review of the control-plane correctness work, including the follow-up fix that restored the implicit comment-reopen helpers after branch splitting ## What Changed - Hardened issue/heartbeat execution behavior, including self-review stage skipping, deferred mention wakes during active execution, stranded execution recovery, active-run scoping, assignee resolution, and blocked-to-todo wake resumption - Reduced noisy polling/logging overhead by trimming issue run payloads, compacting persisted run logs, silencing high-volume request logs, and capping heartbeat-run queries in dashboard/inbox surfaces - Expanded telemetry and status semantics with adapter/model fields on task completion plus clearer status guidance in docs/onboarding material - Updated test infrastructure and verification defaults with faster route-test module isolation, cheaper default `pnpm test`, e2e isolation from local state, and repo verification follow-ups - Included docs/release housekeeping from the branch and added a small follow-up commit restoring the implicit comment-reopen helpers that were dropped during branch reconstruction ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-telemetry-routes.test.ts` - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/http-log-policy.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-log.test.ts server/src/__tests__/health.test.ts` - `server/src/__tests__/activity-service.test.ts`, `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-comment-wake-batching.test.ts`, and `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts` were attempted on this host but the embedded Postgres harness reported init-script/data-dir problems and skipped or failed to start, so they are noted as environment-limited ## Risks - Medium: this branch changes core issue/heartbeat routing and reopen/wakeup behavior, so regressions would affect agent execution flow rather than isolated UI polish - Because it also updates verification infrastructure, reviewers should pay attention to whether the new tests are asserting the right failure modes and not just reshaping harness behavior ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent (GPT-5-class runtime in Codex CLI; exact deployed model ID is not exposed in this environment), reasoning enabled, tool use and local code execution enabled ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Improve issue detail and issue-list UX (#3678)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - A core part of that is the operator experience around reading issue state, agent chat, and sub-task structure > - The current branch had a long run of issue-detail and issue-list UX fixes that all improve how humans follow and steer active work > - Those changes mostly live in the UI/chat surface and should be reviewed together instead of mixed with workspace/runtime work > - This pull request packages the issue-detail, chat, markdown, and sub-issue list improvements into one standalone change > - The benefit is a cleaner, less jumpy, more reliable issue workflow on desktop and mobile without coupling it to unrelated server/runtime refactors ## What Changed - Stabilized issue chat runtime wiring, optimistic comment handling, queued-comment cancellation, and composer anchoring during live updates - Fixed several issue-detail rendering and navigation regressions including placeholder bleed, local polling scope, mobile inbox-to-issue transitions, and visible refresh resets - Improved markdown and rich-content handling with advisory image normalization, editor fallback behavior, touch mention recovery, and `issue:` quicklook links - Refined sub-issue behavior with parent-derived defaults, current-user inheritance fixes, empty-state cleanup, and a reusable issue-list presentation for sub-issues - Added targeted UI tests for the new issue-detail, chat scroll/message, placeholder-data, markdown, and issue-list behaviors ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.tsx ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-chat-scroll.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-detail-subissues.test.ts ui/src/lib/query-placeholder-data.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/usePaperclipIssueRuntime.test.tsx` ## Risks - Medium: this branch touches the highest-traffic issue-detail UI paths, so regressions would show up as chat/thread or sub-issue UX glitches - The changes are UI-heavy and would benefit from reviewer screenshots or a quick manual browser pass before merge ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent (GPT-5-class runtime in Codex CLI; exact deployed model ID is not exposed in this environment), reasoning enabled, tool use and local code execution enabled ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
