DottaandPaperclip 652cd76026 fix(ui): expose Stop for failed native retries (#18899)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents and their tasks.
> - A native run can fail while it still owns a same-run retry.
> - The server supports Stop for that pending execution.
> - Run details show Cancel only for queued or running records.
> - A failed pending retry therefore has no ordinary cleanup control.
> - This pull request exposes the existing Stop eligibility and uses the
existing cancellation endpoint.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #14743 and #14733 for correlated native Stop. Those changes cover
backend cancellation and protocol qualification. They do not add the
failed-run control to run details. Searches of current master and open
PRs found no matching UI repair.

**What happened?**

A native run can show failed while its coordinator still owns a
retryable failure with no accepted result. The backend can cancel that
retry. Both run-detail implementations hide the cancellation button
because the record is terminal.

**Expected behavior**

The selected run offers Stop when the server confirms that pending
native retry. Unknown, legacy, terminal and accepted-result states do
not gain this control. Existing queued and running cancellation stays
available.

**Steps to reproduce**

Render either run-detail implementation for a failed native run with an
eligible retry. The original UI has no Stop button. The original batched
execution projection has no eligibility field. The regression tests
exercise both real components and the actual PostgreSQL projection
query.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The missing control and projection field were reproduced on
44a4ca1c61. Fresh master 8fd917aedf has
identical affected production blobs before this repair.

**Deployment mode**

Board run details for a native Runner task. Local verification uses
rendered React components and PostgreSQL. No hosted task mutation or
provider retry was performed.

## What Changed

- Add optional `execution.canStop` to the existing batched projection.
Read the matching retryable coordinator and absence of an accepted
result. The cancellation endpoint remains the authority owner. Add no
database queries.
- Exclude Grok failed retries from the new hint and both consumers. The
existing Grok Stop endpoint cannot accept a failed retry before
assignment. Keep this limitation explicit and preserve its active-work
authority checks.
- Show Stop for eligible failed runs in both run-detail consumers. Keep
the existing cancellation endpoint and its company, actor and row-lock
checks.
- Use the existing request-correlation contract for failed-native Stop.
Persist one scoped identity before sending and recover it after remount
or reload. Read a matching canonical claim only for the same board
actor, company and run. Use the existing UUID fallback on ordinary HTTP.
Never retry Stop automatically. Refresh the selected run and history
after either outcome.
- Report a stale conflict or a true no-op200 response. Accept a matching
durable pending cancellation intent without requiring terminal
acknowledgement. Keep running, queued and Grok calls unchanged.
- Add actual rendered interaction tests, real batched-query controls and
a short execution contract. Keep maps unchanged for this bug fix.

## Verification

- Untouched UI and real Postgres producer reds cover missing Stop and
missing eligibility. A valid Grok review found an unsupported failed-run
action; actual broker, projection and rendered controls reproduce it
before exclusion. No backend authority was expanded.
- The original60-case focused suite passed, including26 rendered cases,
the batched producer, and actual Grok broker/assignment fences. The
related57-case scope passed before the Grok correction; it is not
presented as final-head proof.
- A fresh native4/5 review found a stale200 no-op. Both actual rendered
consumers failed that new assertion. The real authenticated
HTTP/Postgres fixture proves `canStop=true`, coordinator revocation,
uncorrelated unchanged200 with a cancellation activity, and existing
correlated409 with no new activity or run mutation.
- The correlated repair passed82 affected cases before master
reconciliation. Exact `74c60c9ffe11c05bc85f3d0fa5a136f7e9d445cd`
passed80 rendered/API, HTTP and native-correlation cases. The render
scope verifies request bodies, stable identity after an unknown outcome,
no-op200 error, pending intent acceptance, wrong-run/request denial and
existing active/Grok behavior.
- Subsequent current-head reviews found remount identity loss and
unavailable `crypto.randomUUID` on ordinary HTTP. The corrected helper
passed 52 rendered cases across both consumers, including an unknown
response, initial scoped storage persistence, a prior browser record
with a unique never-mounted run identity, exact ID reuse, canonical
claim recovery, actor switch, wrong run and HTTP UUID fallback. A real
local-board identity mismatch was reproduced with two additional reds
before using the actual server-projected actor ID.
- Real authenticated HTTP and existing native-correlation suites passed
45 cases for canonical claim recovery and actor fences. Production UI,
server and vendored Runner builds and all server/UI type layers passed
at the prior reviewed helper head; exact final
`e0f723b1c86f1529029bf141943323764de28c22` UI types, token gates and
production build passed.
- Fixture failures are retained separately: a missing local SDK build
dependency, and a missing coordinator FK teardown in the new HTTP
fixture. Neither is a behavior red. Both fixtures were corrected and the
affected tests passed.
- Previous-head3d CI required one diagnostic rerun after a Runner
shutdown and a real account-list migration assertion. Two
untouched157-test runs did not reproduce the assertion. Complete
original row equality is unavailable. The assertion remains unresolved;
no test was sorted, skipped or changed to green CI.
- Previous-headf12 CI lost eight child runners. Its one authorized
failed-job retry also lost e2e5 to an explicit shutdown. No second retry
was issued. Those failures remain recorded. Current-head CI and both
substantive reviews are required; older checks and grades are not
credited.
- Previous-head74c CI found a real monitor scheduler timeout. An
untouched local replay and diagnostic-only replay reproduced it: the
original manual-monitor run was still running at the unchanged
three-second deadline. The cause remains unresolved; temporary
diagnostics were removed, and no assertion, timeout or production
monitor policy was changed. No CI retry was issued.
- Exact local `906af5c942ee0963eb4b64552160b57a18bcd2d1` integrates
normal master after #18930 merged. All reviewed Stop production and test
blobs remain unchanged from `e0f723b1c86f1529029bf141943323764de28c22`.
The four rendered, projection, HTTP and correlation files passed 99
cases after integration. All UI/server type layers, token gates and
production UI/server/Runner builds passed at that exact head; the server
build stamp records it.
- Previous-head e0 CI reported a Discord ownership error. That original
failure is preserved. Separate #18930 proves and repairs receiver
construction/renewal races with the same error; the original CI
scheduling order remains unproved. This branch now contains that
ordinary master merge and requires fresh CI rather than rerunning the
old failed attempt.
- Full repository checks were not run locally for this narrow slice. No
hosted task, provider execution or Stop receipt was created by this
work.

## Risks

Grok failed retries remain unsupported by this UI change. The existing
Grok running and queued Stop action, revoke path and assignment fences
are unchanged. A valid initial review caught the overbroad hint; actual
broker, projection and rendered regressions reproduce it before
correction. No backend cancellation authority was widened.

The optional hint can become stale. It grants no permission. The
existing cancellation path rechecks current authority and can reject the
request. Run details show that rejection. Older servers omit the hint,
so failed runs keep their existing behavior until the server updates. No
retry, task hold, accepted-result decision or provider receipt is
changed.

DottaandPaperclip f52da40f08 fix: resume queued turns after maintenance (#17967)
Keep an accepted turn's starting input in task history, show its admission wait, and resume existing queued runs promptly when maintenance ends or expires.

Verified with behavioral red/green regressions, real PostgreSQL and process execution, browser/native Runner acceptance with a deterministic provider, workspace typecheck, production build, and current-head CI/review.

DottaandPaperclip f0877a9c7c fix: recover native work and requalify saved computers (#17724)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start -->
https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/32/changes/paperclip/32
<!-- entire-trail-link-end -->

## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and preserves their work after an
interruption.
> - Native Stop must confirm termination and save the workspace.
> - Task and run views must show the current recovery receipt.
> - A new external reply can arrive while that cleanup is pending.
> - The reply must return to its original chat owner after cleanup.
> - A successful fresh retry also becomes the task’s bound workspace for
its next ordinary turn.
> - Managed computer updates can invalidate a saved snapshot
qualification.
> - This pull request fixes those instructions, acknowledgements,
handoffs and the existing native-agent Test path.
> - The operator can continue with new input while the stopped turn
remains preserved.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Stopped native runs could keep the initial workspace-repair instruction
after files were recovered. Native Stop could also leave the shared
cancellation state at requested after remote termination was confirmed.
A new GitHub reply saved during cleanup could then remain queued because
cleanup did not ask its original inbound owner to reconsider the
receipt. After a managed snapshot update, an existing native agent could
also need qualification while the generic environment Test required
instance-admin access.

**Expected behavior**

Show the current saved-work state. Acknowledge Stop only after exact
termination proof. Let an authorized operator use the existing
saved-agent Run test to qualify its current computer. After cleanup,
recheck the saved reply's current authority and admit it once as new
input. Preserve the stopped run and uncertain external effects.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Stop an active native turn before it returns a semantic result.
2. Send a new authorized external reply while cleanup is pending.
3. Let workspace recovery and provider cleanup finish. Inspect the run
instruction, Stop acknowledgement and queued reply.

Related work: #17594 preserves native processes through controller
outages. #17401 addresses a separate bootstrap failure. This pull
request does not replace those fixes.

## What Changed

- Use the exact run's workspace recovery receipt for task and run
guidance, including the Activity ledger.
- Retire an obsolete exact-session notice through the existing bounded
reconciler. Preserve the separate no-replay hold.
- Write the shared native Stop acknowledgement only after the audited
Stop intent and every exact remote lease receipt match.
- Delegate saved external input to the live inbound owner. Recheck its
source, actor, endpoint, principal and conversation generation. Promote
the same receipt in the transaction that creates its new run.
- Use that owner from the cleanup callback and existing stranded-queue
catch-up after a lost callback or restart. A denied source cannot abort
other items.
- Reuse the current private task directory after a successful fresh
retry. Re-read the company/task/workspace binding and validate the
canonical stable or attempt namespace without recreating missing files;
keep a later fresh retry separate.
- Extend the existing agent-scoped qualification owner to native agents.
The clean saved-agent Test qualifies its exact computer before runtime
testing. Reuse a current proof; require a real probe and verified
cleanup for a stale proof. Preserve draft tests and metadata-only
external/pool previews.
- Update execution semantics, capability maps and the recovery
verification recipe. Add a production-page Storybook interaction for the
normal native Test.

## Verification

- **Red:** persisted recovery states returned stale instructions; an
exact terminated native lease left shared Stop requested; the real
GitHub subscribed-message fixture left zero successors after cleanup.
The controlled baseline restored the previous production source,
reproduced the failure, then restored the fixed bytes with matching
SHA-256 hashes.
- **Green:** 382 durable-chat, native-continuation, Stop and recovery
tests pass. The real GitHub/PostgreSQL handoff matrix passes 12/12. It
covers callback, application restart, callback/sweep race, valid input
behind a deleted source, and denial for unknown stop, wrong allocation,
paused endpoint, revoked principal, deleted or changed source, changed
conversation generation and foreign scope. Repeated callbacks preserve
one receipt, its actor, one successor and the unchanged stopped
predecessor.
- **Workspace continuation red/green:** the real PostgreSQL preparation
flow created a fresh attempt and saved a marker, then rejected the next
ordinary turn with the same binding mismatch observed in deployed use.
The repaired preparation and filesystem suites pass 86/86: stable and
attempt-root reuse, saved-marker preservation, a later clean sibling,
changed current bindings, foreign company/task, closed workspace,
traversal, missing path and symlink refusal. No task row reset or
old-turn replay is used.
- **Qualification red/green:** a native saved-agent qualification
returned 422, and its normal Test skipped qualification. The repaired
path passes 224 qualification/immutable-snapshot/environment tests and
176 UI/upgrade tests. It covers revoked authority, foreign or changed
computer, current-proof reuse, failed/missing proof, draft settings,
settings changed during the probe, and external/pool previews. On exact
current source, the real local Harness / Runtime UI also qualified a
newly saved disposable Computer with missing proof through actual
Daytona, then completed the actual OpenCode/OpenRouter hello probe using
`openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017`. Supported availability
changed from Legacy-only to Paperclip Runner after proof persistence.
Qualification and runtime leases both completed normal release/cleanup.
The five prior task run IDs were unchanged; no task wake was created.
This is macOS source-server/UI with real Linux Daytona and provider
services, not a hosted UI claim. Test probes are archived by the
existing inspection contract; release does not claim physical deletion.
- Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, token, map and diff
checks pass at `f6450f4739fc8141815b8b7c35fde22a655c5f90`. The broad
local `pnpm test:run` passed 24,899 tests and reported one existing
nested-clone test timeout at 15 seconds. The complete failing file then
passed 21/21 with the normal timeout; the exact case also passed on the
pinned earlier baseline. The broad runner stopped before its later
groups. No timeout or production workaround was added. Prior head
`f6450f4` has 53 successful checks, two conditional Storybook skips and
Greptile 5/5 with no inline threads. New workspace-reuse head
`fcb13399ec70f92f71bd8250081251dca3f48962` passes workspace typecheck,
full build, 86 scoped tests, maps and diff checks; Current-head CI has
53 successful checks and two conditional Storybook skips; Greptile is
5/5 with no inline findings. Deployed ordinary-turn reuse acceptance
passed as described below.

- **Hosted Stop proof:** the real GitHub issue-mention path used native
OpenCode, `openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017`, Daytona and an
exact low-trust task boundary. Normal UI Stop interrupted an active Bash
call. Native and shared acknowledgements matched the exact lease.
Automatic recovery saved exactly `STARTED\n` (8 bytes), with no finish
marker. Reload showed Stopped and saved work recovered. Only the
original cancelled run remained. Normal five-minute cleanup completed
its exact provider-destruction transition.
- **Limits:** the provider buffered command output, so the marker was
read after recovery. The approved local provider credential could not
inspect the hosted sandbox; its 404 is not deletion proof. Cleanup
success comes from the exact lease's platform destruction transition. An
earlier hosted stale instruction disappeared after rollout with
unchanged raw run/action data; that historical cause remains
unexplained. Original incident holds and publication receipts were
untouched.
- **Hosted handoff proof:** after QA deployed the combined candidate
containing `46b2e99`, startup admitted the previously saved GitHub
author reply without another comment, Retry or manual action. The new
native run used the exact original wake receipt and saved comment. It
completed once, committed an external-response wait, preserved the
stopped predecessor, emptied the queue and left the task In review. The
answer appeared in the original GitHub conversation. Workspace
finalization and the exact lease's normal destruction transition
succeeded.
- **Hosted workspace proof:** on the combined candidate containing
`fcb13399`, normal Retry preserved the original authenticated GitHub
request and completed a fresh native attempt. One later ordinary
same-head author reply then completed in the exact same workspace ID and
attempt directory, with no Retry/fresh directive. Its input tree digest
matched the Retry's finalized digest; final copyback preserved that
digest. The persisted assessment row and all five prior run records were
unchanged, exactly one new reply run completed, and the task returned to
In review with an empty queue and no live run. Both exact leases
completed normal verified destruction. This used real native OpenCode,
the exact DeepSeek/OpenRouter model and Daytona, without workspace-row
repair or a new remote marker.
- **Publication limit:** the workspace audit compares the persisted
assessment and run history. The ordinary reply exposed a separate
destination-summary fallback that changed the visible GitHub summary
despite the preserved assessment row. The publication track is repairing
that behavior; this proof does not claim the visible summary was
preserved.
- **Deployment boundary:** current-head CI/review and hosted same-source
Retry/ordinary-workspace reuse acceptance passed. The separate
visible-summary publication failure remains owned by the publication
track. Combined hosted UI confirmation of the native-agent Test path is
coordinated separately. Actual missing-proof UI/provider qualification
has passed in the isolated local instance above; prior hosted Stop and
same-input handoff proof remains separate. No merge or deployment is
performed by this pull request.

## Risks

Recovery state and termination receipts must match the exact source run
and allocation. Missing or foreign proof keeps the hold. The chat owner
must retain the original receipt and actor and recheck current
authority. Cleanup cannot grant authority or replay the stopped turn.
Existing native ownership, Stop, budget, permission and uncertain-effect
guards remain in place.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6.1 Sol (`gpt-6.1-sol`) through Codex, with reasoning,
repository tools, source editing and test execution. The context-window
size is not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip e6dcc6b095 Connect personal Muse through secure native execution and Vault OAuth (#16448)
Add company-scoped Muse native control, OAuth, wake receiver and recovery.

Recheck current authority after waits and before effects or receipt replay. Preserve task-read scope, assignment expiry, independent holds, nonblocking reassignment and truthful cleanup provenance.

Retain source trust on progress comments and verify current Muse V8 authority through real signed-JWT HTTP requests. Preserve the upstream trimmed ordinary authentication lookup.

Refs #16448.

Preserve captured canonical queue recovery and concurrent environment preparation while retaining the scoped Muse V8 exclusion. Normal migration 0354 and existing Muse SQL remain unchanged. Fresh current-head Greptile review is 5/5 with the project-write finding addressed. Required CI and independent technical review gate the merge; maintainer override is reserved for formal approval rules.

Recheck current Muse project-write authority after all receipt/task/run/admission waits, before creation or replay. Real PostgreSQL regressions reproduce four late effects/replays on the old route; the repaired three-file treatment passes 354 cases with no skips, and the scoped server typecheck passes. Ordinary/Dot behavior is preserved.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip d21fe31243 Retry pooled execution projection reads after disconnects (#15300)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Task run lists show current execution and recovery state.
> - Their execution projection reads runs, finalizations, pending
interactions, and recovery records.
> - A temporary database disconnect in one lookup makes the run list
fail.
> - This pull request uses the existing bounded retry policy for these
read-only lookups.
> - It keeps transaction reads, authorization, and liveness writes
outside the retry scope.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #15248. This extends the same bounded SELECT retry policy to the
execution projection used by task run lists.

A wrapped `CONNECTION_CLOSED` error from the pending-interaction SELECT
makes `GET /issues/:id/runs` fail. These lookups are safe to repeat on
the pooled database connection. The shared projection helper also serves
transaction callers, so retries must remain an explicit opt-in.

## What Changed

- Opt the activity run list into per-query projection retries. Keep the
default path single-attempt for transaction callers.
- Rebuild only the failed SELECT. Use the existing three-attempt limit
and 50/100 ms delays.
- Keep completed reads, route authorization, and liveness backfill
writes outside the retry callbacks.
- Test each query, exhaustion, exact error preservation, non-transient
errors, empty results, transaction defaults, run-list backfill behavior,
and denied route access.
- Document the pooled-read boundary.

## Verification

- Frozen install passed with Node 24.21.0 and pnpm 9.15.4.
- 92 focused tests passed across execution projection, activity
service/routes, prior service-read retries, and the shared retry policy.
- Independent review passed 56 projection, retry-policy, and route
authorization tests with no blocking findings.
- `git diff --check` and the staged diff and PR-text secret/PII scan
passed.
- Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed.
- Greptile scored exact head `78783e84a5` 5/5 with no findings or open
review threads.
- Initial CI had one Runner test timeout: `stops and closes a timed-out
consumer even when the caller requested a warm session` exceeded 5
seconds. Its fixture uses a 1 ms session timeout. The Runner package is
unchanged from the base. The focused case passed locally (1 passed, 138
skipped). One unchanged-head rerun of that job passed all 1,219 Runner
tests and the additional native-runtime integration test. All other CI
lanes passed on the initial run.
- Full Linux CI passed on exact head `78783e84a5`: 53 successful checks,
two intentional Storybook skips, and no pending checks. It provides
aggregate test coverage. A full local aggregate was not launched. The
same host's prior aggregate exposed three known macOS immutable-cache
rename failures in unchanged company-skills code, documented in #15298.

## Risks

- An affected lookup can take up to two additional connection attempts
plus 150 ms of delay. Persistent failures still return the final error.
- The opt-in is only used by the pooled activity read path. No
transaction, mutation, full request, or provider action is replayed.
- No schema or response-shape changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code
execution, and independent agent review. The exact deployment model ID
and context window are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 5842185e4f fix: surface native cleanup quarantine and add chat qualification evals (#13775)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and their work.
> - Agent Chat needs reliable native execution before native runners
become the onboarding default.
> - Existing stories covered idle reassignment and controller restart,
but not an executing worker handoff or worker process loss.
> - Status answer tests also need to reject stale claims and invented
facts.
> - This pull request adds six opt-in full-stack cells with independent
state assertions and retained evidence.
> - The probes exposed a misleading Retry across server projection and
recovery-banner paths; the fix reports the blocked recovery honestly.
> - The tests preserve failures without changing recovery policy,
production prompts, or onboarding defaults.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #13762. Related: #13765 (Retry targets the latest failed attempt),
#13753 (task context ownership), #13746 (native recovery work).

## What Changed

- Add active reassignment with saved draft and plan preservation,
old-worker cancellation, and successor completion checks.
- Preserve recovery-needed projection when native cleanup fails before
its coordinator exists, refuse a generic retry that would immediately
fail again, and replace the recovery banner's misleading Retry with
Inspect run.
- Add verified local worker process loss with a required successful
continuation; retain a failing qualification result when recovery is
unavailable, while independently verifying the UI/API refuse doomed
retries.
- Add two-turn factual answer checks for current blockers, stale claims,
inactive backlog work, and unknown facts. Retain prose for separate
semantic review.
- Add positive and negative oracle calibration and document fault
isolation, cleanup, billing, and qualification limits.

## Verification

- Eval TypeScript check passes.
- All 442 eval support tests pass locally. The 89 focused server tests
and server typecheck pass. Six recovery-banner UI tests and token gates
pass.
- Initial new-cell campaign:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35657128077. All
six results are retained; four failed on fixture-contract issues and two
exposed real worker cleanup quarantine.
- All 26 existing native onboarding cells:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35656761484 (26/26
passed on master 846336e5a, all cleanup passed).
- Intermediate handoff/fault campaign:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35657945095 (four
retained failures: two overly strict draft oracles, two real crash
quarantines).
- Final active handoff:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35659014397 (2/2
passed on cf6d4ae3a; both cleanup passed).
- Clarified answer-quality fixtures:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35658262695 (2/2
passed on 4a26f10be; both cleanup passed; all four answers semantically
reviewed).
- Quarantine guard regression campaign:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35659580100 (both

## Risks

- Paid cells are explicit-only and local-only. The fault fixture signals
only the exact native run PID after checking its identity.
- Live worker-loss probes currently fail on cleanup quarantine for both
providers. The eval must remain red until there is a usable recovery,
even when preservation and refusal checks pass. Verified cleanup with a
fresh attempt versus exact-session resume remains a product decision.
- Structured facts alone do not qualify prose quality; semantic review
remains separate.
- Onboarding uses the existing runtime switch after the real wizard and
before provider execution. Native UI selection and public defaults
remain unchanged.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code
execution. The exact served snapshot and context-window size are not
exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 0e9b24c821 fix: resume subscription comment wakes and preserve retry status (#13433)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Concurrent task runs can share a managed AI subscription with one
credential lease.
> - #13438 added durable retries for busy subscriptions and task-lock
checks.
> - A comment wake can run for an agent who is not the task assignee.
Such a run never owns the task lock, so the new checks suppress its
retry.
> - This pull request preserves those comment wakes while keeping the
lock checks for assignee runs.
> - It also shows the subscription wait in task status and preserves the
failure count through the database projection.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #13438.

**What happened?**

When a subscription is busy, a non-assignee comment wake is cancelled
without a successor. Repeated subscription waits also display an
inflated attempt count because the execution query omits the preserved
failure count.

**Expected behavior**

An eligible comment wake waits and resumes without claiming the
assignee's task lock. The task shows “Waiting for AI subscription”.
Waiting does not consume provider-failure retries. Assignee retries
still stop when the task lock is cleared or transferred.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Configure an agent with a managed subscription and concurrent runs.
2. Hold its credential lease in one run.
3. Mention the agent on a task assigned to another actor.
4. Release the lease and inspect whether the comment wake has a
scheduled retry.

The test uses a real embedded Postgres database and a real credential
lease. Provider execution uses a fixture. The reassignment test applies
a database mutation after the real checkout. No live provider account is
needed.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Based on `f912ecaac` from #13438. Before the reconciliation fix, the
rebased regression at `2063cfd13` failed because the comment wake had no
scheduled retry. The original configuration failure was reproduced on
`5282cabde` before #13438 merged.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source with embedded Postgres for local verification.

## What Changed

- Record non-assignee comment-wake authority at admission while holding
the task and run locks. A later reassignment cannot grant this
exception. Preserve it through repeated subscription waits.
- Keep master’s lock checks for assignee retries, including the check
inside the scheduling transaction.
- Show the subscription wait and preserve its failure count in the
execution projection query.
- Limit pre-provider wait receipts to fresh executions. A persisted
native execution input must retain its recovery path.
- Add lease, retry, projection, cancellation, reassignment, pause,
revocation, service-recreation, and ownership regression coverage.
- Use master’s 60–120 second retry interval and document the resulting
behavior.

## Verification

- Red: after rebase, the comment-wake test failed with no scheduled
retry; the other 50 contention and retry-scheduling tests passed.
- Red/green: reassigning the task immediately after real checkout
reproduced an unwanted successor for both assignment and comment wakes.
Both tests pass after recording authority at admission.
- Green: all 285 targeted tests pass across 12 suites, including
#13438’s four cancellation-race phases, its hiring/connection suite,
run-dispatch integration tests, and both reassignment regressions.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passes after rebase.
- `pnpm build` passes on the final revision.
- The full general and serialized test suites pass in [CI run
34899514681](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34899514681)
on `99f1e4c1d`. Full-suite verification ran in CI; local verification
used the 285 targeted tests.
- All 32 active PR checks pass, including build, typecheck, native
runner verification, canary dry run, and all browser shards. Two
Storybook checks are skipped by path filters.
- Greptile reviewed `99f1e4c1d` at 5/5 with no outstanding findings. All
review threads are resolved.
- `git diff --check` and `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs`
pass.

## Risks

- The non-assignee exception requires authority recorded under admission
locks or its server-created subscription retry. Tests cover
caller-supplied flags, assignment and comment reassignment races,
repeated comment waits, and assignee lock protections.
- A wait uses master’s 60–120 second interval. A long-held lease can
produce multiple wait records.
- Existing native sessions can have provider effects. They must not
receive a fresh-execution receipt that permits replay.
- No schema migration or credential permission change is required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, model `gpt-6-astra`, with repository search, code editing,
shell execution, and test tools. The session does not expose its
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 6809314a3f fix: recover sandbox workspace setup and retries (#13353)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their tasks.
> - Sandbox tasks need a workspace and a provider session before work
can start.
> - A selected Git subfolder is a valid workspace, but it is not a
repository fetch source.
> - A resumed sandbox must keep one resource identity when the provider
fills in its region.
> - Workspace reuse does not prove that a provider session has started.
> - A recorded continuation must not leave an old failure blocking Retry
for a newer attempt.
> - This pull request fixes those setup and recovery boundaries while
preserving ownership checks.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A Daytona task failed before provider startup when its project folder
was inside a parent Git repository. After the folder was repaired, Retry
resumed the same sandbox and verified its workspace sentinel, but
workspace preparation reported that the lease was no longer active. A
later attempt could fail because the resumed workspace had no provider
checkpoint. The old run also kept a recovery projection after the server
recorded its explicit successor, hiding Retry for the new failure.

**Expected behavior**

Sync the selected folder without importing parent files or history. Keep
the existing sandbox identity stable. Allow a new provider session only
with proof that its exact session has never started. Let the current
failed attempt retain Retry once the old recovery has a recorded
successor.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Select a subfolder of a Git repository as a project workspace and
start a Daytona task.
2. Leave the target region unset. Release its reusable sandbox after
setup fails, then resume and realize the workspace.
3. Retry a provider setup that failed before any session directory or
checkpoint was created.
4. Record an explicit successor for a native failure, fail that
successor during setup, and inspect Retry in the task thread.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced against `8d1f0c20a` with new failing regressions before each
production fix.

**Deployment mode**

Local controller with a Daytona environment. Automated tests use
deterministic provider fixtures and real filesystem operations.

Related: #13338, #13163, #13264, #13349. The open work-folder stack in
#13264 includes a broader fresh-session authority change. This patch
addresses the independently reproduced startup failure with existing
durable bootstrap proof and atomic directory creation. It does not
include the work-folder migration or credential changes from that stack.

## What Changed

- Classify only the selected Git repository root as a fetch source. Sync
subfolders as directories and preserve their enclosing Git ignore rules
on upload and restore. Recognize the shared scheduler’s completed
non-repository result so ordinary folders still sync; timeout,
cancellation, and output-limit failures remain closed.
- Remove the placement target from Daytona account cache identity. Keep
API endpoint, credential digest, company, environment, driver, and
sandbox ID boundaries.
- Preserve closed-lease admission until a sentinel-verified resume
reopens that same resource.
- Show the already-recorded explicit successor of a resolved recovery.
Keep the old failure evidence and unresolved holds. No historical status
writes occur.
- Permit a resumed workspace to create a new session directory only with
matching durable identity, zero connections and events, untouched
bootstrap commands, no backup, and an absent remote session. Claim the
directory atomically. Existing, partial, or ambiguous state still blocks
startup.

## Verification

- Final head `c43c7403f`: [CI completed
successfully](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34733846820/attempts/2),
with 32 successful checks and 2 conditional skips. This includes every
server, UI, package, serialized-route, browser, native-runner,
typecheck, and build gate. Greptile reviewed the same head at [5/5 with
no unresolved
findings](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13353#issuecomment-5650270168).
- New regressions failed before each of the four production fixes.
Git/archive/restore suites: 148 passed. The scheduler-wrapped non-Git
regression also failed before its fix; 135 affected Git/sync/Codex tests
then passed.
- Daytona plugin: 230 passed, 6 opt-in live tests skipped. Native
executor, projection, and TaskChatThread: 494 passed, including
existing/partial state, wrong identity, prior connections or turns,
backups, unavailable proof, and unresolved recovery controls.
- Local full-repository typecheck, build, and token gates passed on the
final head. Local CLI: 485 passed. Complete single-worker package rerun:
3,224 passed, 19 skipped.
- Local verification is an aggregate with recorded retries, not one
pristine green invocation: the general-server run began on `e721a920a`
and finished with 12,002 passed, 3 failed, 70 skipped. Its real Codex
scheduler failure is fixed above; the socket and workspace-runtime
timeout failures passed unchanged in focused reruns. Both Inbox failures
passed unchanged in the full 27-test Inbox file; database/shared-package
failures passed in the single-worker package rerun. The supplemental
local serialized-route rerun remains in progress; all five corresponding
final-head CI lanes passed.
- The first final-head CI attempt hit a Daytona fixture-readiness race
and a signoff-browser heartbeat receipt timeout. One supported unchanged
failed-job rerun passed both and the aggregate gates. Live combined
user-journey verification is tracked in the related follow-up; this PR's
provider tests use deterministic fixtures and real filesystem checks.

## Risks

- A selected subfolder uses directory sync and does not carry parent Git
history. Its ignored files stay local.
- The target region remains a creation setting and part of workspace
reuse policy; it does not split the account identity of an existing
sandbox.
- Incomplete or conflicting provider state still fails closed. This
change does not erase a session, infer completed work, bypass a user
decision, or replay uncertain actions.
- A later remote setup failure can leave a claimed partial session
directory. It remains blocked rather than being overwritten.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and code
execution. The exact hosted model ID and context-window size are not
exposed in this task.
