DottaandPaperclip a2a6129ed5 Allow a new human intent to request tool review after a decline (#18742)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages work for companies of AI agents.
> - App writes can require a human review for each invocation.
> - Decline and Always allow are separate controls.
> - The gateway currently reuses a declined action across later human
requests with the same arguments.
> - A new request can therefore receive the old decline instead of a new
review.
> - This change uses the saved run and human comment to distinguish a
new intent.
> - The new intent still follows the current policy and approval gates.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

After a person declines an Ask first app write, a later request from
that person for the same write receives `action_declined`. The gateway
matches company, task, agent, tool and arguments across runs. It does
not distinguish the later human request.

**Expected behavior**

A distinct later request from the same responsible person can open a new
Ask first review. It must not execute the write or reuse approval. A
retry of the declined intent, including its rejection continuation, must
remain declined.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Ask an agent to perform an app write that requires approval.
2. Decline the proposed action.
3. Send a new request for the same action.
4. Observe that the gateway reuses the old rejection and creates no new
pending review.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The behavior is present on master `7b8aa60b6d` and in a retained native
journey. The focused parent control reproduces the matching error. No
related open fix was found in the scoped PR search.

## What Changed

- Only a rejected match can be released for a later human intent.
- Require the active run, company, task, agent and responsible person to
match the saved direct-human comment. Reject derived, deleted, untrusted
or system-authored input and invalid chronology.
- Preserve all other replay states, signed argument checks, current
policy, unresolved-effect guards, approval and execution owners.
- Document the distinction between decline and a standing policy change.

## Verification

- Actual matching-function control: parent fails; this change passes.
The control uses the unchanged owner body with synthetic database rows.
It does not claim real PostgreSQL or provider verification.
- 52 focused pure controls pass. These cover same-intent retries,
rejection continuations, foreign scope and actor, invalid authorship,
chronology and other action states.
- TypeScript 7.0.2 checks pass for the new helper and its owning tests.
- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass.
- The existing gateway service suite has a new signed-action integration
test. It covers ordinary and reopened human requests. It requires the
old rejection plus one new pending request, a stable retry, and no
completed call. Each leaf prints one fixed success label after its
assertions so CI can distinguish execution from a platform skip. No
local PostgreSQL, app, model or provider execution was run. Current-head
normal CI41594912212 completed with48 successful jobs and1 expected
skip. Both real PostgreSQL leaves executed and emitted their
post-assertion markers; the owning job passed. Full typecheck/build
checks passed in CI.

## Risks

This adds one indexed run/comment read only after a rejected matching
action. Missing identity or ambiguous provenance keeps the old
rejection. Legacy and external comments without direct-human provenance
do not reset it. A new human intent is not consent to execute. This core
PR remains unmerged. Candidate native journey qualification is separate;
the original failed journey is retained.

## Model Used

OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` with reasoning, source inspection and tool use. The
host did not expose the context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 58308a3e63 perf(apps): scope sidebar review counts to one connection (#18688)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their governed app
access.
> - The Apps sidebar displays a Review badge for one connection.
> - It polls the full company attention service every 30 seconds to get
two counts.
> - That service also loads every profile, rule and active catalog
entry.
> - This pull request adds an authorized connection read for only those
counts.
> - The same badge now avoids unrelated profile evaluation and database
result decoding.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Current behavior**

The contextual sidebar polls company-wide attention. It needs only one
connection's signed pending action count and whether any catalog entries
are quarantined.

**Proposed behavior**

Both sidebar variants poll a connection-scoped count endpoint with
existing connection read authority. The full attention API stays
unchanged.

**Reason and benefit**

The retained 200-profile fixture performs seven service queries and
returns 80,115 rows for this badge. The new reader performs one query
and returns one row. This reduces local service CPU and avoids
unnecessary decoded profile/rule data. Related merged evaluator fixes
are already in the baseline: Refs #18673, Refs #18681. A search found no
existing PR for this scoped count reader. ROADMAP.md contains no
duplicate planned work.

## What Changed

- Add the narrow shared DTO, typed client, guarded REST/OpenAPI route
and catalog-owned reader.
- Count independent aggregates with both company boundaries and exact
signed-argument semantics. Keep archived counts at zero.
- Update both contextual sidebar variants. Keep the exact badge, 30
second interval and existing attention-prefix invalidation.
- Add PostgreSQL differential tests, authenticated HTTP tests, sidebar
tests, a repeatable benchmark and access documentation.

## Verification

- Baseline: `3f8ebfff8aa9febd0733c6f65b07485dcadfd0e2`, including both
merged evaluator fixes. Service treatment: `0827f7d0b3`; route/fixture
refinement: `230c42ee15`; final local existence gate: `390a218254`.
- Passed: focused PostgreSQL differential test; assembled HTTP test with
board session and agent JWT; 14 sidebar component tests; token gates;
map checks; diff check.
- Fixture: 200 profiles, 76,000 rules, 1,900 active tools, 695 removed
references, 12 agents, a sibling connection and 2,000 unrelated
historical invocations. Complete normalized two-count results are equal
on both paths.
- Quiet local measurement: seven alternating warm pairs after two warmup
pairs, Node 24.22.2, macOS, real disposable PostgreSQL. Legacy/new
service CPU median: 213.891/1.680 ms; ranges:
209.329–228.552/0.515–6.137 ms. Wall median: 156.867/1.248 ms; ranges:
151.739–162.289/1.115–1.386 ms. Queries: 7/1. Returned rows: 80,115/1.
- Run `cd server && node --expose-gc --import
./node_modules/tsx/dist/loader.mjs
scripts/benchmark-connection-review-counts.ts`. See
`doc/connection-review-counts.md` for scope and failure history.
Byte-volume accounting runs outside timing; no HTTP payload reduction is
claimed.
- Initial raw scalar SQL failed with ambiguous columns. Typed subqueries
fixed it and passed real PostgreSQL equality. Initial fixture agents
lacked permissions and correctly received 403. The final fixture grants
explicit authority and tests revocation. An initial benchmark included
byte serialization in timing; the reported run excludes it.
- Passed required local `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The
initial sandbox typecheck could not open the tsx IPC socket; the
escalated rerun passed. Full monolithic `pnpm test:run` was not run
locally: repeating a 15–25 minute suite serially across both performance
PRs adds no distinct evidence. Broad suite acceptance uses final-head
CI, which runs the same general/serialized test partitions and the
native Runner lane. Final-head CI is in progress.
- Passed built-static Chromium journey on an owned local-trusted server
and disposable PostgreSQL: Review 3 appears, only scoped counts are
requested by this sidebar, resolving requests/clearing quarantines then
reloading removes the badge, and archived counts are zero. The first ad
hoc launcher omitted required decision-service options and failed at
startup; using the normal no-op wake callback fixed that harness.
- Greptile identified an invalid resolved-request fixture label.
Corrected `denied` to the declared `rejected`, then reran the real
PostgreSQL differential test. The count SQL and non-pending exclusion
are unchanged.
- The first final-head CI failed the static cross-tenant
existence-oracle guard because the new explicit resource company
assertion had no nearby `hasCompanyAccess` gate. Existing management
admission already rejects foreign resources with 404. The route now also
follows the standard local two-step gate. The unchanged guard plus
authenticated HTTP negative cases passed (3 tests). No allowlist or test
was weakened.
- These local service measurements do not prove hosted performance. No
deployment is included.

## Risks

Low risk. New read admission reuses existing current-authority checks.
The old attention API is unchanged. Counts still require database work
over relevant pending/catalog rows. No cache, schema migration or
telemetry is added. Roll back this PR if the badge differs or scoped
reads deny previously permitted users.

## Model Used

OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` (Sol 6.1), with reasoning, tool use and code
execution. The host does not expose the configured context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 554a770c6f perf(apps): scope connection profile configuration reads (#18687)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The Apps Permissions page reads saved access profiles for one
connection.
> - The page fetched every company profile, rule, and binding.
> - It used only the app profile and eligible task-granted profiles for
that connection.
> - This pull request adds a saved configuration read owned by the
profile service.
> - The route keeps current connection and per-profile management
checks.
> - The benefit is fewer database rows, less Node work, and a smaller
response for the same displayed configuration.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Server profile configuration reads and the Apps Permissions and Review
data caller.

**Problem or motivation**

One connection page loaded and serialized unrelated company profiles. In
the local fixture, this produced a 32.35 MB response with 76,001 rule
rows.

**Proposed solution**

Select the displayed connection's app profile and exact eligible
connection-intent profiles before loading their entries and bindings.
Return an explicit configuration DTO with complete selected arrays. Keep
summary and pending-review work on the existing full API.

**Alternatives considered**

Filtering the full response in the browser retains the database and Node
cost. Truncating the full API would break other clients. Filtering
entries to the connection would lose selectors and bindings needed by
saves.

**Roadmap alignment**

This improves the existing governed Apps capability. It does not add a
new access policy. Related merged work: #18673 and #18681. Related
harness cleanup: #18683. Public PR searches found no duplicate
connection configuration projection.

## What Changed

- Add `ToolProfileConfiguration` and `GET
/api/tool-connections/{connectionId}/profile-configuration`.
- Select `app:<connectionId>` at any status and exact active, correctly
bound `connection_intent` profiles. Run the existing per-profile
visibility filter before configuration queries.
- Preserve complete ordered entries and bindings. Keep all save
behavior, empty-binding install fallback, and the existing full profile
API.
- Switch AppDetail and AgentConnectionAccess to the configuration DTO.
Use a distinct cache key below the existing profiles prefix so mutation
and reconnect invalidations still refresh it.
- Add real PostgreSQL differential and authenticated HTTP tests, UI
caller coverage, a reproducible benchmark, and access-map documentation.

## Verification

Baseline: `3f8ebfff8aa9febd0733c6f65b07485dcadfd0e2`, after both #18673
and #18681. Final head: `b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22`.
Current implementation and reproduction details are in [the performance
note](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22/doc/performance/2026-11-02-connection-profile-configuration.md).

- AppDetail: 79 tests passed. Existing access/action saves, install
fallback, grant removal, errors, and refresh cases use the new caller.
- Real PostgreSQL differential: passed. Full ordered selected
configuration equals the old full-list selection. Cases cover extra
bindings, sibling selectors, wrong source/key/status/binding, null and
non-string agent metadata, fresh mutations, empty app bindings,
visibility filtering, and company scope.
- Production HTTP authentication: API key and run JWT cases passed.
Hidden personal accounts omit spanning profiles. Private connection
reads fail. Restored ownership restores visibility. Revoked management
grants deny fresh calls. Final UID canonicalization and foreign-company
404 assertions passed on the current head.
- Map structural check, token gate, and `git diff --check`: passed.
- Required local `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed on the
current head. `pnpm test:run` was started once. Its first chat shard
passed (337 tests, 151.87 seconds); the second shard was intentionally
interrupted after the complete final-head CI suite passed. This partial
local attempt is not a full local test pass. The same stable-runner
general and serialized partitions and Runner lanes passed in [final-head
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41538805231),
including aggregate `ci / verify`. No local assertion failures were
observed before interruption.
- Final-head focused acceptance: four files, 85 tests passed. Full token
gates, maps, and module boundaries passed.
- Actual browser acceptance passed on the current checkout with isolated
real PostgreSQL and a local trusted board. An action saved as Off
persisted after reload. Both app agent bindings stayed intact. Removing
an agent-only task grant persisted after reload. Requests used only the
narrow profile endpoint. No browser exceptions occurred. No responses
were mocked. No provider calls or hosted changes were made. The helper
stopped the owned runtime and database after the check.
- Final exact-head checks: 54 success, one clean neutral Paperclip
Review, three skipped, zero pending or failures. Legacy Snyk status:
success. No inline review comments.
- Greptile reviewed exact head
`b40c1ed7c0833d403e20ee8a5ff9d09f1bad6d22`: 5/5, no findings, completed
successful check.

Five alternating unprofiled pairs ran with real PostgreSQL on
macOS/arm64, Node v24.22.2, and forced GC. The fixture has 210 profiles
(200 heavy profiles plus ten eligibility cases), 76,001 rules, 1,900
active tools, 695 removed tools, and 12 agents. The selected
configuration has two profiles and 1,391 rules. Each pair asserts
complete ordered selected DTO equality.

| Measurement | Full list | Configuration read |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Service wall ms, median [min, max] | 200.927 [193.319, 213.390] |
6.414 [5.508, 6.973] |
| Node CPU ms, median [min, max] | 262.751 [246.727, 271.573] | 27.525
[22.576, 29.308] |
| Select queries / returned rows | 7 / 78,139 | 3 / 1,397 |
| Actual response JSON bytes | 32,353,534 | 592,233 |
| Serialization wall ms, median [min, max] | 90.714 [88.715, 99.304] |
1.644 [1.637, 1.745] |
| Serialization CPU ms, median [min, max] | 90.644 [88.569, 96.778] |
1.654 [1.637, 1.807] |

Reproduce: `node --expose-gc --import
./server/node_modules/tsx/dist/loader.mjs
server/scripts/benchmark-connection-profile-configuration.ts 5`.

The benchmark measures the service and actual response JSON separately.
It excludes HTTP and authorization work through an identity visibility
callback. Node CPU does not include PostgreSQL CPU. No hosted or
foreground-under-load improvement is claimed.

Preserved failures: offline install lacked a locked tarball; frozen
online install passed. Sandbox localhost and tsx IPC restrictions
blocked initial DB/typecheck attempts; permitted retries use the same
checks. The first HTTP suite needed the unbuilt plugin SDK; its owning
build helper fixed setup. Shared typecheck caught a missing barrel
export, now fixed. A broad typecheck inherited the host's unpinned
nested pnpm executable; the owned stalled process was stopped and
restarted with pinned pnpm 9. The complete current-head CI suite and
aggregate verify passed. The separate Paperclip agent review published
5/5 with no findings at this head and completed with a clean neutral
conclusion. An added foreign-company assertion expected 403; the
existing guard correctly returned 404. Only the test expectation
changed. The first real browser attempt saved and reloaded the action
correctly, but grant deletion returned 422: the stress fixture had a
company binding, which makes that profile the company default. The UI
showed the existing deletion error. The second browser seed used the
production agent-only intent shape and passed removal and reload. This
does not change the stress fixture or product deletion gates. Initial
external browser script attempts also needed an ESM extension and the
correct dependency path. Logs, first-failure screenshots, traces, and
result files are retained in the local evidence directory.

## Risks

- SQL selection must stay aligned with connection-intent eligibility.
Differential fixtures cover the exact current predicate.
- A selected connection can still have many rules. This change preserves
all selected configuration.
- Per-profile authorization still reads current selected resources and
can add work. Connection visibility does not bypass that check.
- No migration, default-allow, effective-access, policy-review,
provider, or deployment behavior changes. The old endpoint remains
available. Rollback restores the old AppDetail caller and removes the
additive endpoint.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with code execution and repository tools.
The host does not expose the context-window size.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 49b3804830 fix(connections): load permissions and show AI account identity (#18653)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their access to saved connections.
> - The Permissions page loads account details and permitted agent
choices.
> - Company-wide AI accounts repeat retained installation checks for
every candidate agent.
> - This makes target checks grow with the square of the roster size.
> - The browser waits without a deadline, and connection names do not
identify the provider login.
> - This pull request batches direct AI checks and bounds loading with
recovery controls.
> - Account details load separately and show a provider email or an
explicit profile-permission limit.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Opening a saved AI account can leave Permissions on “Loading AI
account…” for minutes. The account itself can be connected. The existing
capability batch excludes AI connections, so a company-wide install
repeats checks for every installed agent for every candidate. Saved
names and Paperclip ownership also do not establish which provider login
a credential uses.

**Expected behavior**

Direct AI accounts reuse retained-target checks within one descriptive
request. The page shows loaded account controls or a bounded failure
with Retry. Permissions shows the provider email and organization when
the selected credential permits profile access. An unavailable profile
must not block maintenance or disconnect a working inference credential.
Writes still authorize current permissions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Save an AI account in a company with several agents.
2. Install the account company-wide.
3. Open its Permissions page.
4. Delay the account-list or grants response to exercise the loading
failure.

The maintained benchmark reproduces database work with synthetic local
data. Refs #17945, which added batching for non-AI connections. Searches
found no open PR for this AI-account loading fix.

## What Changed

- Include direct AI accounts in the existing board capability batch.
Referenced pool members, delegated actors, complex selectors, and
mutation authorization keep their existing evaluator.
- Add opt-in per-caller GET deadlines to the API client. A timed-out
caller detaches the stuck coalesced request so Retry starts a fresh
fetch. Other callers retain their own cancellation and results.
- Apply a 15-second deadline to AI account lists and grants reads. The
permissions view retries transient failures once and reports other
failures immediately.
- Share the parent Permissions grants query with AI account details.
Keep loaded controls visible after a background error and offer Retry.
- Add a grant-scoped identity GET and OpenAPI contract. The service
checks current membership and credential audience before it reads the
selected credential. It projects only the provider email and
organization; provider IDs, tokens, and raw errors stay private.
- Show account details independently of maintenance controls. Anthropic
profile denial has an explicit message and preserves connected status.
Transient profile failures have a separate Retry action. Observations
are cached for five minutes under the company, connection, grant, and
grant revision.
- Extend real PostgreSQL and authenticated HTTP coverage,
client/component regressions, map guidance, and the existing benchmark's
AI mode.
- Address the Apex file-size finding by moving gallery identity lookup
into the existing app display helper module. `AppDetail.tsx` is 984
lines; lookup behavior is unchanged.

## Verification

Local source checkout on macOS, Node 25.6.1, pnpm 9.15.4, and disposable
PostgreSQL 18.1. Provider calls use fixtures. No hosted deployment or
provider qualification is claimed.

- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`.
- Passed all 87 tests in `connection-management.integration.test.ts` and
all 33 tests in `connection-install-capabilities.test.ts`.
- Passed 196 AI connection, identity-provider, and OpenAPI tests:
`ai-connections.test.ts`, `ai-account-identity.test.ts`, and
`openapi-routes.test.ts`.
- Passed 107 focused UI/client tests: `client.test.ts`,
`ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx`,
`AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx`, and `AppDetail.test.tsx`.
- After the Apex extraction, passed UI typecheck/build and 106 component
tests across `AppDetail.test.tsx`, `AppNotConnected.test.tsx`,
`ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx`, and
`AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx`.
- The authenticated HTTP tests compare complete grants responses across
human roles, for tool and AI connections. They verify a real install
mutation succeeds before revocation and fails afterward.
- A company-wide personal AI fixture checks 20 targets instead of 400.
Pool-member permission loss still denies the complete pool description.
- UI states covered: shared cached grants, stuck account/grants fetches,
one automatic retry, terminal failure, manual recovery, authorization
failure, background failure with retained controls, and unmount
cancellation. Client tests also cover stalled response bodies and
independent coalesced callers.
- Identity coverage includes actual bearer-key/JWT reads, private-user
and cross-company denial before provider access, revoked credentials,
provider 401/403/429/500, and grant-change isolation. A real local HTTP
fixture stalls the response body, verifies the shared 15-second
deadline, and keeps unrelated HTTP requests responsive. The test
shortens the native deadline to 100 ms. Profile permission denial leaves
the saved account connected.
- Passed `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, `node
scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs`, and `git diff --check`.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` started with the loading-only change.
All six chat shards passed. It recorded one failure in the unchanged
`heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts` quota-rejection case. That exact
case passed a focused rerun on the final head. The initial failure cause
remains unconfirmed and its local log is retained; this is not a full
local-suite pass. The redundant local run was stopped with SIGINT after
final-head CI completed successfully.
- [Final-head
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41515556725)
passed on `ead8d276d4a2023614fff54b3e9a858f28c3178b`: typecheck, build,
all 12 server shards, all 3 chat shards, workspace suites, all 9
serialized suites, all 8 end-to-end shards, Runner checks, and the
aggregate verify gate. Security checks passed. Optional Storybook checks
were skipped by workflow policy. GitHub reports the branch mergeable
without conflicts.
- Apex reviewed head `ead8d276d4a2023614fff54b3e9a858f28c3178b` at 5/5,
confirmed the extraction resolves its earlier file-size finding, and has
no unresolved review threads.

The existing benchmark ran for the loading-only change now recorded in
commit `5f725b36fa52002545241a5a8b7a10602f0cc0ce`, with `--purpose=ai
--baseline-ref=026fd9e3452`. The identity follow-up leaves that batch
source unchanged. Two warmups and five alternating samples exercise each
of eight fixture shapes. Complete positional capabilities, reasons, and
operations match the baseline in every sample.

| AI fixture | SQL calls before → after | Target reads before → after |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| 1 agent, company install | 9 → 9 | 1 → 1 |
| 32 agents, company install | 5,248 → 164 | 1,024 → 32 |
| 100 agents, company install | 50,400 → 504 | 10,000 → 100 |
| 100 agents, partial install | 13,175 → 503 | 2,575 → 100 |

These counts measure the real service over local PostgreSQL. They do not
predict hosted page latency. To reproduce the standalone benchmark, use
a checkout of commit `5f725b36fa52002545241a5a8b7a10602f0cc0ce` and run
the command below. Its isolation check intentionally rejects the later
identity follow-up's additional runtime changes.

```sh
node --import ./server/node_modules/tsx/dist/esm/index.mjs scripts/benchmark-connection-install-capabilities.ts --purpose=ai --baseline-ref=026fd9e3452
```

Run the final-head regression suites from the repository root:

```sh
cd server
pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/connection-management.integration.test.ts src/__tests__/connection-install-capabilities.test.ts src/__tests__/ai-connections.test.ts src/services/ai-account-identity.test.ts src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts
cd ../ui
pnpm exec vitest run src/api/client.test.ts src/components/ai-connections/ManagedAiConnectionDetails.test.tsx src/components/ai-connections/AiConnectionAccountDetails.test.tsx src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx
```

## Risks

Descriptive permissions reuse retained facts within one request. A
concurrent change can leave a displayed choice stale; the next request
and every write still authorize fresh. Pools with referenced members
retain their existing cost.

The account and grants clients now bound each caller's wait. A browser
abort does not cancel an authorization read already admitted by the
server. The independent profile request uses a fixed Anthropic origin, a
bounded body, no redirects, and a 15-second deadline. Inference-only
credentials can return no email; that is reported without guessing from
a Paperclip owner or changing connection health. Profiles are fetched
only for the caller's authorized selected grant. No ambient CLI
identity, persistent identity cache, background polling, or
billing-identity change is added. Other API reads keep their existing
behavior. No migration is required. Staging has not been redeployed.

## Model Used

OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through the Codex harness in T3 Code, with xhigh
reasoning, code editing, execution, and test tools. The host does not
expose the context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 6e781e0ab2 fix(connections): preserve removed grants when saving installs (#17906)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connections give agents access to external tools through access
profiles.
> - Operators can remove a broad app profile and keep a limited profile.
> - Saving a connection's agent list restored the broad profile to
existing installation targets.
> - Those restored grants could permit write tools that the limited
profile omitted.
> - This pull request grants the app profile only to new installation
targets.
> - The benefit is stable permission choices when an operator edits an
installation list.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

`PUT /api/tool-connections/{connectionId}/installs` attached the app
profile to every target in the submitted list. An existing target
received the profile again if an operator had removed it. Adding an
agent, removing another agent, or saving the same list could therefore
restore broad tool permissions. The activity log recorded each restored
binding as `tool_connection.install_access_extended`.

**Expected behavior**

Targets that remain installed keep their saved profile assignments. A
removed app-profile assignment stays removed. New installation targets
receive the current app-profile defaults. Removing an installation still
removes its install-derived binding.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Install a connection with read and write tools on two agents.
2. Give one agent a read-only profile and remove its broad app-profile
assignment.
3. Save the installation list, add an agent, or remove the other agent.
4. Check the first agent's permission to use the write tool.

Before this change, the write tool becomes allowed again. After this
change, it stays denied.

Related: #17422 adds an agent-edit permission check to direct profile
bind and unbind operations. This PR preserves removed assignments during
installation-list updates. The duplicate search found no open PR for
this defect.

## What Changed

- Attach app-profile bindings only for new installation targets.
- Preserve removed grants for existing agent and company installations.
- Keep legacy connection-wide include cleanup on every non-empty
installation save, including saves with no added targets.
- Add six PostgreSQL regressions. All six use the real install HTTP
route with a local operator fixture.
- Check effective read/write decisions, saved assignments, new-agent
defaults, uninstall cleanup, legacy-rule cleanup, and access-extension
audit records.
- Document the behavior in the connector runbook and both access maps.

## Verification

- Red: all four new regressions fail before the fix. The policy returns
`allow_profile` where the tests require `deny_default`.
- Review regression: the two legacy-rule cases fail before the review
correction. The original four cases still pass.
- Green after review: all six regressions and five existing
profile-precedence tests pass after the correction.
- Command: `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/tool-connection-installs.test.ts
server/src/services/tool-profile-binding-precedence.test.ts`.
- The local regression used `PAPERCLIP_TOOL_ACCESS_TEST_DATABASE_URL`
with a separate, fully migrated PostgreSQL 17 test database. Embedded
PostgreSQL could not start because the host had reached its semaphore
limit. Skipped tests were not counted as a regression pass.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed for the initial fix.
Server `tsc --noEmit` also passes after the review correction.
- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, `node
scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass.
- `pnpm test:run` was started, then stopped after 16 tests in the
native-session suite failed during embedded PostgreSQL startup. A
focused rerun of its `collect` case confirmed the database startup
error. Direct `initdb` output reported `could not create semaphores: No
space left on device`. The full local suite is incomplete. All six new
regressions executed against the separate test database and passed.
- [Initial-fix
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40541191695)
passed at `23253ee332b90f142e48df3f553aeaaa7f6fa298`. Greptile gave that
commit 5/5. Ponytail found the legacy cleanup gap; this revision
restores that cleanup and adds both regression cases.
- [Current-commit
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40547366181)
passes for `729c487cf2ffaae261a820de0cf9a033a0365fd4`, including type
checks, build, test shards, and both `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`
aggregate checks.
- The first CI attempt hit a 30-second module-import timeout in the
unchanged `issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes.test.ts` suite. All 179
tests passed locally. One [job
retry](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40547366181/job/122349226221)
passed without a code change. The cause of the import slowdown was not
established. The failed attempt remains recorded in CI history.
- Greptile and Ponytail both give the current commit 5/5 with no
actionable findings. Ponytail confirms the legacy cleanup finding is
fixed. The review thread is resolved, and the PR has no merge conflicts.
Ponytail's advisory check has a neutral conclusion with a 5/5
assessment.

## Risks

- New installations retain the current app-profile defaults. Removing
and then reinstalling a target is a new installation.
- A repeated installation save no longer restores a missing profile
assignment. Operators must use an explicit profile assignment when they
want to restore that grant.
- Existing unwanted grants still require a separate access review and
repair. This PR does not change stored grants, reconnect identity
behavior, or the default access model.
- No database migration or API schema change is required.

## Model Used

- OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and code
execution. The session does not expose the exact routed model ID or
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip b8f6d9b23f docs: clarify delegated connection feature and access maps (#17882)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The feature and agent access maps describe user journeys and their
permission boundaries.
> - PRs #17737 and #17739 added delegated connection setup across
several existing areas.
> - The maps include those operations, but some recipes and board-only
statements are stale.
> - This PR adds usable setup recipes and corrects the access
descriptions.
> - The benefit is a clearer verification path that preserves human and
agent authority boundaries.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #17737, #17739.

Related: #17862 changes connection setup advice and catalog choices.
This PR only clarifies the existing maps.

**Issue type**

Outdated and missing documentation.

**Where is the issue?**

The paired connection setup, app permissions, chat channels, model
accounts, and gateway maps under `maps/`.

**What's wrong?**

Delegated setup guidance sits under Gotchas without a matching driving
recipe. Some model-account text still groups supported account sign-in
with board-only host controls. A few callback, privacy, and native
admission descriptions omit important limits.

**Suggested fix**

Add the missing recipes. State the current route and service boundaries.
Keep existing capability IDs and distinguish source review, fixture
tests, and live provider proof.

## What Changed

- Add paired entry points and driving recipes for delegated setup,
permission changes, and managed AI sign-in.
- Describe Google consent restoration, GitHub requested credential
fields and saved rotation, and Vercel personal credential attribution.
- Correct the Vercel callback state checks and chat
conversation/test-status privacy scope. Name the separate GitHub
registration handoff endpoint.
- Replace blanket board-only AI login wording with the specific
managed-account and host/session boundaries.
- Link the five access maps to shared native admission and work-mode
limits. State the permitted self-targeted policy administration
boundary.

## Verification

- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed: 35 paired areas and 192 stable
capability IDs. This checks structure and references.
- `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs` passed. Generated output remains
ignored.
- `git diff --check` passed.
- Eleven selected cases in
`server/src/__tests__/connection-management.integration.test.ts` passed
on source `db70c5acd9`, the unchanged base of this documentation commit.
They use a fresh PostgreSQL database, actual agent keys/run JWTs, human
sessions, and deterministic provider fixtures. The other 61 cases were
not selected.
- The selected cases cover connection/profile creation, Google saved
choices, native API entry points, Slack caller/target policy, GitHub
import and identity confirmation, durable gateway authority, AI
accounts/pools, saved human handoffs, revocation, scope, trust, and
Ask/Plan denial.
- Read-only source reviews checked all five areas. The disposable
database was removed after the run.
- Full workspace typecheck, build, and test sweep were not rerun for
this Markdown-only change. Live provider login and browser journeys were
not run. Per-operation source-only/not-run labels remain unchanged.

## Risks

Low risk. Incorrect documentation could misstate a permission boundary
or imply broader verification. The changes cite the owning routes and
services and retain fixture and live-provider limits. No runtime,
schema, lockfile, or workflow files change.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and read-only source-review agents. The session does not
expose a more specific deployment ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 0c9d10d695 feat(connections): complete saved setup guidance and coverage maps (#17739)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Product and agent access maps describe the same capability IDs.
> - Agent connection management changes the callable operations and
permission boundaries.
> - Reviewers need an operation inventory that distinguishes API access,
human handoffs, and fixture evidence.
> - This pull request adds saved setup screens and updates the maps for
#17737.
> - The benefit is that users and contributors can inspect the coverage
and remaining boundaries.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Product and permission documentation, saved authentication setup UI and
consent metadata, and product/agent access maps.

**Problem or motivation**

The current maps describe board-only management paths. They need to
match delegated connection management and distinguish administration
from ordinary tool execution.

**Proposed solution**

Record route operations, required grants, responsible-user limits,
transport, saved authentication handoffs, provider-fixture evidence, and
explicit local-operator boundaries for every connection family.

**Roadmap alignment**

This is the documentation companion to #17737. It covers existing
Connected Apps, governed MCP gateways, chat channels, and
personal/shared AI accounts. It uses existing server setup operations
and adds their saved handoffs to the existing UI.

## What Changed

- Show saved AI sign-in and connection setup handoffs in the existing
UI.
- Open GitHub import and rotation links at the required human step.
Resume a committed rotation after reload without asking for another
secret.
- Restore saved Google service choices for the addressed user while
preserving newer consent. Successful direct/cloud consent records its
own timestamp, independently of refresh or lease writes; existing
refresh paths preserve it.
- Update product, implementation, and permission-default documentation.
- Reconcile app permissions, connection setup, chat channels,
profiles/gateways, and model account coverage.
- Use matching capability IDs in the product and agent access maps.
- Label source-reviewed operations separately from fixture-tested
operations and live provider setup.

- Preserve catalog creator attribution under the responsible user, with
the actual agent still recorded. This follow-up moved from the
implementation to keep both reviews below 100 files. This companion now
changes 38 files, including the preserved Vercel personal-credential and
OAuth callback attribution follow-ups alongside consent and catalog
ownership.

- Name the addressed-human browser-session and consent step for Slack
managed authorization and installation. Preserve source-only evidence
for those individual operations.

## Verification

- Current companion head: `04d40cdd605452d91cf4931476eb292a210825af`,
including implementation `2ecd6451d0` and master `ea727dc3c2`, 38 files.
All intended companion files survive: 35 are byte-identical to the
previous companion; two chat maps and qualification add current
evidence. Exact-head Superagent passed and Paperclip Review supplied an
actual neutral5/5 assessment with no findings and explicit
no-independent-runtime/live/current-CI verification limits. Exact-head
Greptile also completed at5/5 with no findings; both formerly failed
shards and their verification aggregate passed on attempt2; full
exact-head Linux CI workflow40446969603 completed SUCCESS. All current
checks and statuses are terminal clean, with no unresolved findings.
This PR remains dependent on #17737 and needs fresh checks after its
required post-squash replay. The preceding 605 head’s reviews are
historical after this update. Older b0ea Linux workflow success after
its single rerun also remains historical.
- Earlier preserved-stack verification passed **2,165 tests**: 70
assembled-server actual-auth scenarios, 27 OpenAPI contracts, 2,022
native API tests and 46 saved GitHub wizard cases in fresh PostgreSQL.
The parent also passed **141 existing gateway/policy tests**. Workspace
typecheck/build, maps and token gates passed. The initial typecheck IPC
denial and all material intermediate regressions remain in the
qualification record; no full local sweep or live provider setup is
claimed.
- Operation maps now cover issuer/target gateway policy intersection and
post-approval revocation, bounded activity pagination through
private-only windows, and native local-login encrypted receipts. The
companion preserves the Vercel OAuth callback ownership change with its
existing credential ownership follow-up.

- Parent CI has one retained connection-intent e2e failure from a
periodic-recovery timing race. GitHub refused the first job-rerun
attempt while its workflow was nonterminal. Once completed, the single
failed-job rerun was accepted as attempt 2 and passed, including the
full parent Linux workflow.

- Companion Linux server shard 4/12 retained a cleanup-idleness timeout
in `login-cleanup-work.test.ts` (active work was still 1 after its
five-second wait). The same unchanged cleanup suite passed all 16 cases
in the parent Linux job 121950185096 and all 16 cases locally against a
fresh disposable PostgreSQL database. Relevant cleanup/reaper/scheduling
runtime code is unchanged. The single unchanged-code failed-job rerun
was accepted as **attempt 2** on the previous `b0ea3c940f` head
(workflow 40431671705). The failed shard and complete Linux workflow
passed on attempt 2; no additional unchanged-code rerun was used for
this failure. The first local attempt failed the existing dedicated
`_test` database-name guard before running tests; the correctly named
fixture passed without weakening the guard.

- **Earlier 82 GitHub UI tests passed**. All three new replacement cases
were red before the fix. A confirmed unchanged generation preserves the
earlier copy; a changed or unreadable generation blocks copying and
reconnecting. An explicit status check can restore the copy when it is
still current. All earlier import, rotation, verification, and retry
states remain covered.
- The complete stack passed **82 API/OpenAPI tests** in fresh
PostgreSQL, including 55 scenarios with real agent keys, run JWTs, human
sessions, production defaults, persistence, and deterministic providers.
The parent also passed **60 Copilot installation tests**, preserving
published v62 and binding combined guidance as v63.
- **Earlier 10 focused Google/OAuth tests passed**: eight picker cases
and two local-HTTP protocol cases proving consent metadata survives
concurrent token refresh. The refresh and legacy UI cases were red
before the fix. These protocol fixtures use the existing injected board
actor and do not count as agent-authenticated proof.
- Workspace typecheck/build passed after the consent change; normal
migration generation reported no SQL changes for the additive JSON
metadata. The parent's latest caller-authorization correction passed
server typecheck/build. Map validation and token gates passed. Maps
cover 35 areas and 192 capability IDs. The specification names migration
`0380_broken_aqueduct.sql`.
- The test-call operation maps now record the full caller/target tool
access decision (profiles, policies, and explicit grants), credential
identity for every auth label, approval, and rate checks. The
profile-only precondition was removed after the new permitted-access
cases failed; those cases and the no-auth identity regression now pass.
Saved test status requires its originating principal and current
linked-task access; actual key/JWT privacy-denial evidence is recorded.
- Tool-connection activity is now operation-verified: 100 events over
two tasks require two capability decisions and at most two run captures
(previously 100/102), preserve private-event filtering, and deny the
next request after audit revocation. The regression was red before the
fix.
- Cloud enrollment creation and callback entries now name
instance-administrator and company/principal checks. The callback is a
browser return with HTML or a 303 redirect. Status reads retain their
separate board-actor rule.
- Operation maps identify the API, transport, authorization, evidence,
and human/operator boundaries. Structural checks do not establish live
provider behavior. Earlier failures and fixture corrections remain in
`doc/plans/2026-10-13-connection-api-parity.md`.
- An earlier companion head (`26edbe17`) received an actual Paperclip
Review assessment of 5/5 with no actionable findings, published with
neutral status. That review did not run tests or confirm CI, and it is
historical for this new head. The prior incomplete execution result is
not counted as a passed assessment. Fresh review remains pending. The
duplicate enrollment findings have explanatory replies and are resolved.
- The latest implementation correction passed all 55 actual-auth
scenarios and 27 OpenAPI contracts (separate commands). It repairs
unavailable old credential material, preserves fresh import versus
configured reconnect links, and distinguishes credential field
sets/completion modes in handoff keys. The new fresh-link and collision
cases were red before the fix. All 41 GitHub wizard tests now pass,
including filling the fresh saved handoff and asserting App import
rather than reconnect; UI typecheck, maps and token gates also pass.
Qualification retains the earlier failures and an incorrect OpenAPI
filename that selected only the integration module before the correct
separate contract run.
- Configured GitHub credential-entry links carry canonical requested
fields and all/any mode. The form displays and submits those values
through human reconnect while retaining other saved credentials. Two
webhook/client-secret cases were red before the fix; combined all/any
and legacy-link cases also pass. The current UI fixes the old bf760912
baseline referenced by the duplicate main review finding.
- After merging master baec3abd67 and regenerating migration0380, the
complete stack passed **128 tests** (55 actual-auth, 27 OpenAPI and 46
GitHub wizard cases), workspace typecheck/build, maps and token gates.
Eight current Google UI cases also passed. The two local-HTTP OAuth
cases could not initialize embedded PostgreSQL in this fresh attempt, so
that attempt is not a protocol pass; the earlier ten-case evidence is
historical and fresh Linux CI remains required.
- The reproduced Linux automatic-Slack challenge failure is fixed by
retaining verification only for the same signing fingerprint and
callback URL; all eight neighboring provider compatibility cases pass.
Qualification also retains the uncommitted GitHub field variant that
failed initial-secret compatibility before the extension was narrowed to
reconnect, and the first unmigrated external-database diagnostic.
Upstream 0379 remains intact; normal generation/pruning produced
additive/idempotent 0380, with repeated application verified.
- Both PRs must ship together. The user authorized merging when checks
pass. Merge #17737 first, replay only this companion's changes onto
master, retarget this PR, and require fresh current-head CI and review
before its squash merge.

- The updated maps distinguish authorized bot-token/API-key setup from
human verification-key entry and forbid generic channel secret-reference
replacement. Actual key/JWT security baselines were red before both
guards; all 82 API/OpenAPI cases, eight native receipt protections, and
49 policy-service tests now pass. The qualification record preserves the
initial lifecycle/fixture/union-assertion diagnostics and the preceding
Linux CI assertion failures. Maps pass on this updated stack. Fresh
exact-head CI and reviews remain required.

- The parent now preserves a per-field credential-change boundary before
retiring saved credential-entry cards. Old health, unchanged entry,
unrelated repair and retries cannot bypass it. Current authority is
checked before and inside credential persistence; a real provider-time
revocation regression was red before the fix. Final 82 API/OpenAPI
tests, four neighboring lifecycle cases, and server typecheck/build
pass. Maps pass, and qualification retains the hidden-metadata fixture
failure and the measured minute-boundary rate-test failure. Production
rate behavior is unchanged; only the relevant test Date clock is fixed.

- After the current master/parent refresh, all **341 affected UI
cases**, combined workspace typecheck/build, maps and token gates pass.
The updated parent also passed **97 actual-auth/OpenAPI cases**, **141
gateway/policy cases** and **61 profile installation cases**. Published
upstream Copilotv62/v63 remain unchanged; combined guidance is now v64
(`sha256:22e31f95ef972bcead98a4a707c9f33433558fd111e390e027a2bbb4346e112a`).
Qualification retains the initial source-identity failure and fixture
port/migration setup failures. No full local sweep, fresh local OAuth
protocol run or live acceptance is claimed; fresh Linux CI must qualify
this successor.

- Latest review follow-up: the parent fixes caller-policy bypass in
Slack tests/invitations and premature identity-handoff completion. The
maps now name caller/target Block/Ask/rate intersection, one charge for
a shared bucket, and the addressed human’s exact current identity link.
Parent verification passes all **99 actual-auth/OpenAPI tests**,
typecheck and build. The preserved combined companion passes the four
focused tests (including twelve Slack policy/recipient combinations and
the actual human OAuth confirmation path), workspace typecheck/build and
maps. The 50 embedded-PG continuation cases were skipped locally because
their database could not start; fresh Linux CI remains required. All
material red/intermediate results and corrected-fixture evidence are
retained in the qualification record.

- Current `04d40cdd60` CI workflow40446969603 retained two new failures:
server1/12 `workspace-runtime.test.ts` could not reach a fixture
subprocess’s health endpoint within its ten-second readiness window
(job122001926052), and chat2/3 `wakes Slack session sync from
publication commit and leaves settled action queues quiet` observed one
select after its idle predicate (job122001925936). Both same cases
passed in parent `2ecd6451d0` Linux jobs122001920494/122001920581. The
runtime and queue implementations are unchanged by this companion. Both
failing cases also pass unchanged locally: two real-subprocess runtime
readiness/reuse tests and the exact Slack quietness assertion against a
fresh migrated PostgreSQL database. Logs:
`/tmp/parity-04d-server1-failure.log`,
`/tmp/parity-04d-chat2-failure.log`,
`/tmp/parity-2ecd-server1-green.log`,
`/tmp/parity-2ecd-chat2-green.log`,
`/tmp/parity-04d-runtime-qualified.log`,
`/tmp/parity-04d-chat-quiet-qualified.log`. The single standard
unchanged-code failed-job rerun was **accepted as attempt2** on the
unchanged exact head at `2026-10-27T04:24:30.513973+00:00` after the
workflow completed. Both new failure retry allowances are now
**consumed**; both failed shards and the complete Linux workflow have
now passed on attempt2, including the verification aggregate. No
additional unchanged-code rerun will be requested for either failure. No
timing, assertion, idle-work guard or policy was weakened. If either
case fails again, investigate/fix rather than rerun again. The older
5b/b0ea rerun allowances remain consumed and separate.

## Risks

- Saved handoff links depend on the API changes in #17737, including the
nonsecret credential-generation metadata. Both PRs must ship together.
- A map can overstate operation coverage. Entries identify their
evidence and retain human authentication and trusted-host limits.
- Structural map checks do not prove live provider behavior.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, and code
execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific deployment ID or
context-window size.

Devin Foley 059ae49cab feat(connections): add Unikraft Cloud connection (#17139)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps connections give agents governed access to external services
through vault credentials, grants, action policies, the tool gateway,
and audit.
> - Unikraft Cloud runs unikernel micro-VMs, services, and volumes
across regional metros, and it offers a sandbox plugin for commands and
files.
> - Unikraft is not in the catalog. It has no hosted MCP server, so the
generic "Connect your own MCP server" flow cannot reach it.
> - Daytona (#16483) added a native REST pattern for this case: a
catalog generated from the provider's published OpenAPI specifications
and executed through the gateway.
> - This pull request adds Unikraft on that pattern and moves the shared
native-provider code into one registry, so the shared connection code
does not name each provider.
> - The benefit is governed agent access to all published Unikraft
actions, with the token kept in the vault and sent only to published
Unikraft hosts.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #16483

**Problem or motivation**

Teams that run workloads on Unikraft Cloud want their agents to list
instances, read logs, deploy and scale services, and run commands in
sandboxes. Unikraft is not in the Apps catalog. Unikraft has no hosted
MCP server, so operators cannot connect it through the remote MCP flow.

**Proposed solution**

Add a native Unikraft connection. Generate its actions from Unikraft's
official OpenAPI specifications for the platform API and the sandbox
plugin. Pin the specifications to a reviewed commit. The operator
connects an API token. The token stays in the vault and goes only to the
five published metro hosts. Every action takes an optional metro.
Actions without a metro use the connection's default metro, which the
operator can change under Advanced.

**Alternatives considered**

A catalog-only AppDefinition was not possible because no hosted MCP
endpoint exists. Wrapping the `unikraft` CLI was rejected because it
would expose host filesystem behavior and CLI login state. A second copy
of the Daytona bridge was rejected; the shared transport and catalog
contract are now one module with a provider registry.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing Apps and Connections provider coverage. It
uses the existing credential, grant, policy, gateway, and audit model.
It does not overlap planned core work.

## What Changed

- Added `scripts/generate-unikraft-tools.mjs` and its tests. The
generator reads the platform and sandbox plugin specifications at commit
`5dd107ea1cd8716b83cb86a83ed2a6ee46f99b5b`, resolves shared parameters,
records source SHA-256 hashes, and writes
`server/src/services/unikraft/operations.generated.json`.
- The catalog has 105 actions: 89 platform operations and 16 sandbox
plugin operations. The server-sent audit event stream is recorded in the
inventory and is not advertised as an action.
- Classification: GET operations and sandbox reads and waits are reads.
Delete, stop, suspend, detach, unpin, and sandbox command execution,
signals, and stdin are destructive. All other operations are writes.
- Added `server/src/services/connectors/unikraft/client.ts` and its
generated catalog. It validates arguments against the generated schemas,
accepts only published metros, rejects path traversal, sends JSON bodies
on GET and DELETE as the specification requires, and verifies the token
with `GET /v1/users/quotas`. A sandbox wait that times out (documented
HTTP 408) returns a still-running result instead of a failure.
- Moved the bounded, credential-redacting HTTP sender and the catalog
contract helpers from `daytona.ts` to `native-rest-client.ts`. Added
`native-provider-catalogs.ts`. `tool-access.ts`, the
`tool-access/catalog` and `token-broker` modules,
`connectors/tool-policy.ts`, and `tool-gateway.ts` now use this registry
instead of Daytona-specific checks. Daytona behavior does not change.
- Added the Unikraft definition source, the generated definition, the
brand mark and manifest entry, and the permission review (`liveProof:
not-run`).
- Added `doc/connections/UNIKRAFT.md` with a sequence diagram,
endpoints, setup, actions, and limits. Updated the connections README,
the permission audit, and both capability maps.
- Tests: definition shape, database-backed gateway reads, writes,
deletes, and sandbox commands for personal and shared grants, default
and per-call metros, rejection of unpublished metros and traversal, Off
policies, revocation, stale-contract blocking, credential export denial,
schema validation for all actions, pinned-transport tests for GET and
DELETE bodies, and a browser setup check.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src
server/src/__tests__/unikraft-connection.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/unikraft-http-boundary.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/daytona-connection.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/daytona-http-boundary.test.ts

server/src/__tests__/tool-gateway.test.ts
ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx
ui/src/lib/app-brand-assets.test.ts` plus `connector-tool-policy` and
`tool-catalog-publication`: all passed after the rebase onto the split
tool-access modules.
- `node --test scripts/generate-unikraft-tools.test.mjs
scripts/generate-daytona-tools.test.mjs
scripts/app-brand-validation.test.mjs`: 20 passed.
- `node scripts/check-app-brand-assets.mjs`, `node
scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check`: passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck`, `pnpm --filter
@paperclipai/server typecheck`, and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui
typecheck`: clean.
- `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts
tests/e2e/unikraft-connector.spec.ts
tests/e2e/daytona-connector.spec.ts`: 2 passed.
- `node scripts/generate-unikraft-tools.mjs` regenerates the committed
catalog with the recorded hashes.
- Manual: on a local instance, open Connectors, search for Unikraft, and
select **Add key**. Confirm the icon, the password field, the key
guidance, and the default metro select under **Change**.
- Not verified: a real Unikraft account. Live provider read and write
proof is pending.

## Risks

- A Unikraft token acts for the whole organization in every metro.
Unikraft offers no narrower token permissions. Assign only trusted
agents and review action permissions.
- Sandbox actions run arbitrary commands inside the selected instance.
They are classified as destructive.
- A timed-out write can still complete at the provider. The bridge does
not retry writes automatically.
- New metros fail closed until the specification is regenerated and
reviewed. Legacy `*.kraft.cloud` hosts are not reachable.
- The Daytona refactor moves code without behavior changes. All Daytona
tests pass without edits.
- The generated JSON snapshot is large because it holds the provider
input contracts. No migration or lockfile change is required.

## Model Used

- Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic), model ID `claude-opus-5-5`, 1M context
window, used through Claude Code with tool use (shell, file editing, web
research, browser tests).

DottaandPaperclip 92cfd701c3 feat: add governed Braintrust app connections (#17141)
Add hosted US and EU Braintrust OAuth and API-key connections through the existing governed MCP system.

Keep reviewed tool risks and catalog review policy in connector modules and a narrow registry. Preserve credential ownership, operator decisions, regional setup and changed-tool quarantine. Include official artwork, setup guidance, focused regressions and sanitized qualification evidence.

US OAuth has bounded live read/write, gateway, reconnect and cleanup proof. Remaining account-method and token-lifecycle qualification gaps are documented.

DottaandPaperclip 9ef434fe79 docs: expose feature map IDs and add a recipe index (#16987)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its feature map describes user journeys and their verification
paths.
> - The map already defines feature IDs and full capability IDs.
> - The README and child pages did not show those IDs consistently.
> - Readers need those IDs to connect issues, tests, stories, and
evidence.
> - This pull request adds a recipe index and displays the existing IDs.
> - The benefit is clear references across the product and agent access
maps.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Issue type**

Missing documentation.

**Where is the issue?**

`maps/feature-map/README.md`, the child recipes, and their agent access
companions.

**What's wrong?**

The README sends readers to Storybook to browse features. Child pages
show local keys, such as `installation`, without the full
`plugins/installation` ID. Readers must inspect the generator to find
the full reference.

**Suggested fix**

List recipe links and existing IDs in the README. Show each feature ID
and full capability ID in its child pages. Explain capability IDs and
entry-point references. Keep the current keys and anchors.

Related work: Refs #15288. Refs #16052. Refs #15983. No duplicate open
PR or issue was found by title search.

## What Changed

- Add an index grouped by feature area. It lists every recipe, feature
ID, and full capability ID.
- Explain how IDs are formed and used in issues, tests, Storybook, and
evidence.
- Add feature IDs to all product recipes and agent access companions.
- Show full capability IDs beside recipe keys and below access and
Storybook guidance headings.
- Preserve existing keys, heading anchors, and generated ID values. Keep
the latest upstream company capability in the index.

## Verification

- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passes for 34 feature families and 175
capability IDs.
- `node --test scripts/check-maps.test.mjs
scripts/storybook-feature-index.test.mjs` passes all 17 tests.
- `node scripts/storybook-feature-index.mjs` passes on this checkout and
generates the feature indexes and overview inputs.
- `git diff --check` passes.
- A source comparison confirms that the README matches the recipe index.
After removal of the added ID labels, all 68 child pages match the
upstream prose and headings.
- Full workspace checks were attempted: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm
test:run`, and `pnpm build`. They could not start because the local pnpm
wrapper could not fetch and verify the pinned pnpm 9.15.4 release. This
checkout also has no workspace dependencies installed.
- `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs` could not run because
`storybook/internal/csf-tools` is not installed. The direct map and
index checks above pass without that dependency.
- Remote typecheck, release-registry, and full build checks passed. The
first attempts of [server shard
3/12](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39460473910/job/118758430448)
and [server shard
12/12](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39460473910/job/118758429932)
stopped after their runners received a shutdown signal. The test steps
were canceled. GitHub rejects the rerun request with HTTP 403: "The
workflow run containing this job is already running". Five other CI jobs
remain active. The next action is to rerun the two interrupted shards
after workflow 39460473910 ends. No application changes were made to
address these runner interruptions.
- To inspect the result, open the feature-map README, follow a recipe
link, and compare its full capability IDs with its access companion.

## Risks

- Low risk. The change updates map documentation only. It changes no
application code or ID schema.
- The readable README index and child labels repeat source IDs. Keep
them aligned when a capability changes.
- Generated capability descriptions now include the visible ID prefix.
Generated IDs, labels, navigation order, and verification fields remain
the same.
- Full local workspace checks and catalog generation remain unverified
for the environment reasons above.

discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap
first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, model `gpt-6.1-sol`, with a 475,000-token context window
and `xhigh` reasoning effort. The model used local file tools, shell
commands, and GitHub CLI access.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 5f5602bba7 feat(plugins): synchronize standing connection assignments (#16603)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Lifecycle plugins prepare agent runtimes outside the control plane.
> - They need committed connection assignment changes without polling.
> - A reader and its revision hooks must cover the same fields.
> - This pull request adds a bounded standing-assignment snapshot and
its matching hooks.
> - Plugins can react to assignment changes while execution keeps its
existing access checks.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The agent runtime reader does not expose standing connection
assignments. Changes to connection installs, active profiles, and
connector feature switches do not request synchronization. Adding
company-wide invalidation also exposes lock inversions in assignment
writers and AI adoption.

**Expected behavior**

The owning lifecycle plugin can read a bounded assignment snapshot.
Every committed change to its stored fields advances the runtime
revision. Rollback removes both the change and its event. Assignment
writers finish without a lock-order cycle.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Install a connection or bind an active profile to an agent.
2. Read its runtime inputs through the owning lifecycle plugin.
3. Rename or disable the connection, revoke the assignment, or switch
connector features.
4. Expect a committed runtime event and an updated snapshot without
periodic polling.

**Additional context**

Extracted from #16503. Catalog publication #16602 and the separate test
maintenance PRs #16601 and #16610 are merged. This PR now targets master
and is the active review. Tool-definition hooks #16604 and
access/credential hooks #16605 remain drafts without review requests.

## What Changed

- Add SDK types and an owning-plugin runtime snapshot for installed
connections, active profile IDs, and effective connector feature
switches.
- Reject more than 512 connections or 128 active profiles instead of
returning partial data.
- Add migration 0354 for the exact stored fields used by the snapshot,
with transaction-coalesced invalidation. Agent-targeted bindings and
installs notify only their old/new target agents;
project/routine/issue/gateway bindings are outside the snapshot and
produce no notification.
- Use ordered agent locks that are compatible with foreign-key
references and exclude runtime readers. Prelock complete old/new target
sets before replacing assignments or restoring managed profiles.
- Record one company baseline at delivery startup for process-managed
feature overlays.
- Lock assignment inputs before install saves, task completion, and
email assignment. Setup finalization reads the locked connection state
and prelocks company agents before activating, re-enabling, or reviving
a profile.
- Make profile binding and reassignment writes transactional and lock
parent profiles first. Keep target validation and profile/detail reads
on the reserved transaction connection, including with a one-connection
pool.
- Lock company agents in order before validated AI adoption. Keep
adoption and shared configuration writes at `FOR NO KEY UPDATE`,
avoiding an upgrade that can deadlock foreign-key inserts during gateway
creation. Configuration fields cannot change agent identity; lifecycle
transitions and deletion retain their existing locks.
- Document supported coverage and the inputs reserved for later PRs.

## Verification

- Thirteen affected suites passed: 757 tests covering runtime
hooks/assignments/skills, concurrent skill publication, tool
access/catalog, task connection intents, lifecycle delivery, email, AI
accounts, migration histories, snapshot drift, and the agent lifecycle
module. This includes the merged catalog PR's OAuth and
overlapping-refresh regressions.
- The assignment suite passes all 24 cases, including bounded snapshots,
company/agent isolation, rollback, health-field no-ops, process-start
feature overlays, and real lock contention.
- Four one-connection PostgreSQL regressions reproduce the earlier
helper-read hangs before the correction; bind, unbind, delete, and
reassign complete with it. The earlier adoption/gateway probe exposed
both lock upgrades: changing only validation still deadlocks in shared
configuration. Current scoped coverage verifies adoption with
agent-targeted binding writes; gateway-only bindings no longer
invalidate this snapshot.
- The original ordered-adoption regression reproduces PostgreSQL `40P01`
without ordered company-agent locking. Scoped-recipient tests reproduce
unrelated-peer journaling before the trigger correction and verify
repeated bind/unbind operations leave peers untouched, ignored binding
types produce no events, both reassignment recipients are reached, and
coalescing remains intact.
- Six replacement contention cases cover installs, existing setup,
activation, re-enabling, profile revival, and profile reassignment.
Negative controls reproduce `40P01` without the corresponding
target/company prelocks; all cases pass with the guards. Activation
decisions use the connection row reread under lock.
- An initial contention fixture failed because its settings connection
lacked an MCP URL. Supplying the fixture URL and controlled lookup
corrected that test setup error.
- Server typecheck, database migration numbering/safety, five-snapshot
retention, feature-map structural validation, and `git diff --check`
passed. Migration metadata preserves historical journal entries and adds
no schema change. The complete diff was reviewed for secrets and
personal data before push.
- Earlier hosted PR CI runs 38983440861 and 38985530069 passed; the
superseded promotion run 38983440470 was cancelled. Superagent
acknowledged the recipient fix and accepted the documented company-wide
cost at `359b5b2f30a8a0248177367e458663d5379810d1`. Its two standard
Greptile summaries were conditional on a later setup correction and were
not counted as independent acceptance; the setup correction is now
included here.
- At `7da246aab46274db1a120a0546abbb404c5427c7`, hosted PR run
38986958988 passed: all 55 checks succeeded, with two optional Storybook
checks skipped. Superagent passed, all review threads are resolved, and
standard Greptile independently returned 5/5 with no blocking findings
(review completed 2026-10-17 00:40 UTC). Apex independently returned 5/5
with no actionable findings (completed 2026-10-17 00:50 UTC). CI was
rechecked after Apex and remains green; the branch is mergeable against
master. Full local build and repository-wide tests were not run.

## Risks

Migration 0354 adds database functions and triggers without changing
table schema. Apply it through the normal migration flow. Agent-targeted
bindings and installs only notify their affected agents. Explicit
company-wide assignments, connection metadata, profile
activation/removal, and connector feature switches retain synchronous,
transaction-atomic company fanout. Each such transaction takes ordered
row locks and inserts up to one connector runtime event per eligible
company agent: O(number of eligible agents) work and journal storage,
with no company-size cap or cross-transaction mutation quota. This
remains an intentional scope tradeoff for this PR; deferred fanout is
not implemented. Many of these conservative changes can request
preparation even if an individual snapshot stays unchanged. Snapshot
limits fail closed. This PR provides desired assignments, not
credentials or task authorization. Later PRs must add mutation coverage
before consumers can rely on immediate synchronization of tool
definitions or credentials.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository inspection, code
execution, and testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window
are not exposed in this session.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 0b62c736a0 feat(connections): add generic Daytona API and Toolbox access (#16483)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps connections give agents controlled access to external services.
> - Daytona provides sandbox, file, command, Git, and account APIs.
> - Operators need to assign this access without exposing a server
credential.
> - A small task-specific tool list cannot serve general Daytona work.
> - This pull request adds the published HTTP actions through the
existing connection gateway.
> - Operators keep control of identity, agent access, and each action.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Paperclip has a Daytona sandbox provider for its own execution
infrastructure. It lacks a normal Apps connection for agents to manage
an operator's Daytona account. Reusing the server's provider credential
would bypass normal connection ownership and action permissions.

**Proposed solution**

Add a Daytona connection with personal or shared vault credentials.
Generate its action catalog from the official platform and Toolbox API
specifications. Use the existing run-bound gateway, grants, action
policies, approvals, revocation, and audit paths. Sandbox IDs come from
Daytona; tools need no Paperclip task or lease ID.

**Alternatives considered**

A four-action diagnostic subset cannot support general provider work.
Launching the provider CLI would expose host filesystem behavior. Native
OAuth is not included because a supported third-party registration path
was not verified. The native method uses an organization API key.
Existing Composio setup is a separate possible OAuth route and is not
qualified by this change.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing Apps and Connections provider coverage in
`ROADMAP.md`. It uses that system's credential and permission model.
GitHub searches found no existing Daytona Apps connector PR or issue.

## What Changed

- Add the Daytona catalog entry, provider source override, official
theme logos, permission review, and setup documentation.
- Generate 274 HTTP actions: 169 platform and 105 Toolbox operations.
Record two WebSocket upgrades separately; do not advertise them as HTTP
tools. Record source URLs and hashes.
- Add provider-focused execution for sandboxes, snapshots, volumes,
files, Git, commands, computer use, and account resources. Provider
authority still limits which endpoints accept an organization key.
- Validate action arguments. Resolve Toolbox targets through the fixed
platform API. Check sandbox identity and organization before using an
approved Daytona proxy. Keep normal guarded network requests and vault
resolution.
- Transfer file bytes without reading or writing host files. Share one
caller deadline across prerequisite reads, dispatch, and response
reading. Bound requests and responses. Do not automatically retry writes
with unknown outcomes. Redact the selected credential from results and
errors.
- Classify credential access, access changes, interactive input, command
execution, file permissions, and deletion (including TTL and
auto-delete) as destructive actions. Keep new and changed actions under
catalog review.
- Upgrade saved catalogs and retire the earlier diagnostic names. Hide
retired actions from the UI and agent discovery even when provider
refresh fails. Preserve existing action choices and historical records.
Reject stale same-name contracts during agent discovery and dispatch
before a board refresh.
- Add database-backed gateway and catalog-upgrade regressions, schema
generator tests, a browser setup check, and both capability map updates.

## Verification

- Passed on the review-fix head: 57 focused Vitest cases (18 Daytona
database/client cases, five HTTP boundary cases, and 34 shared catalog
cases), four generator tests, `pnpm -r typecheck`, and `pnpm build`. The
five HTTP cases use a real local server through the pinned production
transport. The normal browser setup check and 17 generator/artwork cases
passed on the initial PR head; those UI and artwork paths are unchanged.
- Passed on this branch: brand asset validation, token gates, map
structure checks, and `git diff --check`. All latest-head GitHub checks
pass on `ea979ccb3a64dc9508807823540f935c4316ea35`. Apex is 5/5, with
all five findings addressed and zero unresolved threads. The branch has
no merge conflicts.
- The initial catalog-generation command could not find the external
research corpus. The supported `--definitions-only` mode regenerated the
definitions successfully. Unrelated generated drift was excluded.
- An earlier full local Vitest attempt on the preview branch failed when
bundled PostgreSQL could not start on macOS. After replay onto current
master, all three unchanged event-sequencing cases pass with bundled
PostgreSQL; the earlier startup cause remains uncertain.
- The first full-suite command on this branch used my external test
database override. Chat fixtures require a current migrated schema and
failed because `agents.lifecycle_state` was absent in that disposable
database. A focused comparison reproduces failure with the override and
passes with normal setup. That attempt was stopped, and the full suite
restarted without the override. Focused Daytona cases use their own
migrated PostgreSQL 16 databases.
- The clean local full-suite attempt recorded embedded PostgreSQL
startup failures in two unchanged native-runtime cases and two failures
in unchanged Git fixtures. It was stopped after these failures were
isolated; no full local suite pass is claimed. The 15 matching
native-runtime cases pass separately. The Git cases fail with the local
`init.defaultBranch=main` setting and pass with `GIT_CONFIG_COUNT=1
GIT_CONFIG_KEY_0=init.defaultBranch GIT_CONFIG_VALUE_0=master` limited
to the test command. No global Git setting was changed. Full Linux CI is
green.
- Fixtures use real database persistence and run-bound gateway sessions
with provider responses replaced by fixtures. They cover personal/shared
vault ownership, reads and writes, file bytes, Off policies, revocation,
organization mismatch, untrusted proxy rejection, output bounds, saved
catalog upgrades, failed refresh, and permission preservation.
- The first Apex review found five valid issues: multipart transport
compatibility, destructive classification, caller deadlines, audit
filters, and stale saved contracts. All five were fixed with regressions
before the second review. A typecheck then found the nullable saved
schema hash; admission now accepts that stored type and rejects null as
stale.
- The browser check covers setup controls without submitting a provider
key. No real Daytona account, provider write, native OAuth flow, or
agent model run is qualified. Live provider read/write proof remains
pending a test account.

## Risks

- Daytona keys have broad Toolbox authority, including keys with no
selected resource scopes. Only assign this connection to trusted agents
and review its action permissions.
- Remote writes or commands can continue after a timeout. Calls do not
automatically retry an uncertain outcome.
- The bridge targets Daytona Cloud. Proxy hosts are restricted; an
unrecognized future regional host fails closed.
- Files and responses have an 8 MiB bound. Each action has one caller
deadline, capped at 30 seconds across all provider requests and response
reading. Interactive WebSocket sessions are not exposed as HTTP actions.
- The generated JSON snapshot exceeds 1,000 lines because it holds the
provider input contracts. Generator logic and execution code remain in
separate small modules. Updates require explicit regeneration and
catalog review.
- No database migration or lockfile change is required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The runtime identifies the model family but does
not expose the exact backend model ID or context window. Used reasoning,
repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, database verification,
and browser tests.

DottaandPaperclip 7d9b93aee2 docs: establish paired feature and agent access maps (#16025)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Contributors use the feature map to understand and verify product
capabilities.
> - Agents need APIs and usable entry points within their permission
boundaries.
> - Product recipes and agent access need separate records with shared
capability IDs.
> - This pull request establishes that contract and gives maintenance
ownership of both maps.
> - The benefit is repeatable access review without changing product
behavior or permissions.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #15983, which added the portable verification skills and updated
the feature map. This is its contract-only follow-up. Related: #15288
added the original feature map.

**Issue type**

Missing documentation and maintenance contract.

**Where is the issue?**

The product map, its missing agent access companions, and the
verification skills.

**What's wrong?**

There is no shared convention for API presence, agent entry points,
permission boundaries, access gaps, or evidence. An API declaration does
not prove that a permitted native or remote agent can use it.

**Suggested fix**

Keep the product and agent access maps as siblings under `maps/`. Reuse
capability IDs. Record representative source inventory separately from
operation review and live proof. Keep both maps aligned through the
maintenance skill.

## What Changed

- Move the existing product map to `maps/feature-map/`. Preserve its
recipes and Poteto format. Update relative links and add companion
links.
- Add `maps/agent-access-map/` with 35 area files and 171 matching
capability IDs. Seed representative API operations, agent paths,
policies and known gaps from the reviewed source inventory. Mark entries
as `baseline`, `source-only`, and live verification `not-run`.
- Define the shared contract in `maps/README.md`. Track API presence,
agent availability, policy, evidence and review depth separately.
Require operation enumeration before marking a broad capability
operation-reviewed.
- Extend `maintain-verification-skill` to reconcile both maps and
inspect actual route policy and production tool admission. Update
creation, verification, notices and contributor references to use the
shared contract.
- Add `scripts/check-maps.mjs` and ten regression tests. Check matching
areas/IDs, indexes, references, contract fields, API method/path
examples, justified exceptions and evidence-state consistency.
- Keep the coverage inventory unchanged. Preserve skill invocation
policies and both MIT license blocks. No product API, permission, UI,
runtime helper, migration, dependency or workflow changes.

## Verification

- Passed: `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` reports 35 paired areas and 171
matching capability IDs. All local map references resolve.
- Passed: `node --test scripts/check-maps.test.mjs` runs ten tests.
Fixtures cover missing companions, renamed/orphan/duplicate IDs, broken
references, missing operation fields, empty exceptions, missing API
examples, empty policy fields, and verified evidence without passed
verification.
- Passed: metadata validation for all three verification skills. Skill
and contributor links resolve. Invocation policies and both license
blocks are unchanged.
- Compared relocated recipes with current master. Contents differ only
in relative links and companion links. `coverage.json` is byte-for-byte
unchanged. Master's updated read-only interaction test reference is
retained.
- Passed: `git diff --check`. The branch starts from current master and
contains only this contract change.
- Repository-wide typecheck, tests and build were not run locally for
this documentation and Node structural-check scope. Live agent access
was not exercised. Those gaps are explicit in the baseline entries; the
structural check does not certify behavior. CI and automated review are
pending.

## Risks

- The companions are representative source baselines. They are not
complete operation inventories or passed agent journeys.
- The checker cannot establish actual permissions, native tool
admission, operation completeness or truthful live evidence. Maintenance
must inspect source and verify with the actual permitted agent context.
- External links to the old product-map directory may need updates.
Repository references have been updated.
- Existing access gaps and board/user restrictions remain recorded. This
contract does not change authority or implement missing paths.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with this change. The session does
not expose the exact serving model ID, configured context-window size,
or reasoning setting. Capabilities used: source analysis, file edits,
shell commands, and structural regression tests.
