Verify native Runner setup through plugin tasks (#17029)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for AI agents. > - An environment plugin can own a Runner task. > - The merged launch-preparation contract lets the execution owner build the provider configuration. > - Core still needs a task process owner and a setup test that uses that configuration. > - This PR connects the task API to the Runner process-owner contract. > - Operators can test a plugin environment before Core sends it task work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Runner, plugin SDK, and agent environment tests. **Problem or motivation** A task-only environment cannot use the shell-based setup path. Core must verify the Runner hello exchange and process cleanup through dedicated task operations. **Proposed solution** Add a lease-bound task driver and use it for a bounded setup probe. Keep heartbeat admission and task execution in #16978. This PR follows the merged launch-preparation contract in #16997. **Alternatives considered** A provider declaration alone cannot prove that Runner and the provider connect. A shell bridge would give the plugin an unnecessary command interface. ## What Changed - Pass structured Runner launch data to process owners. Support an external connection and explicit detach. - Add typed launch authentication checks and checkpoint operations. Check lease, run, project, and retained-task authority. - Connect launch preparation, PRP, termination proof, and credential handoff to the task driver. Reject local environment overrides during installed-account setup. Pass saved-account identity and credential home directly from Core. - Run a short-lived setup probe through the existing agent environment test API. Require a verified provider hello and cleanup. Keep saved Copilot account checks metadata-only through a dedicated task operation. - Update the Copilot source identity because the shared transport source changed. Keep provider behavior and the earlier identity fixture. ## Verification - CI passes on `f987adec7`: 55 successful checks and 5 expected skips. Standard Greptile and Apex are both 5/5 with no open findings. The branch merges cleanly with current master. - Repository typecheck and build pass after the rebase onto the workspace-provider contract. Server typecheck and build also pass after the final setup fix. - The 110 focused lease, SDK, setup, Copilot, and route cases pass after the rebase. All 14 setup cases pass after the final change. These include a real local Runner with a test provider. The saved-agent model-discovery case also passes. - Apex found that Core's relative workspace marker failed the driver path check, and non-Codex sessions omitted the observed model. Both failures were reproduced and fixed. The probe leaves physical workspace selection to plugin preparation. The transport reads each provider's observed model and exposes it to the driver. All 14 setup cases, 6 transport peer cases, and both existing real Runner/OpenCode cases pass. Runner build and server typecheck pass. - The coverage audit removed two redundant cases, repeated fixture code, and two extra real Runner launches. It kept authorization, credential selection, cancellation, lost replies, termination proof, checkpoint identity, and provider setup checks. - The Copilot source-identity check passes. The added-line secret and PII scan passes. The unmerged v52 attestation was regenerated after the shared transport fix. - CI on `13faeff02` caught one stale Copilot digest assertion after attestation regeneration. The literal now matches the candidate attestation, and all 49 installation cases pass. That CI lane otherwise passed 1,818 cases. - An earlier CI run hit an unchanged UI toast timing test. The separate fix is tracked in #16952. Current CI passes that shard. CI also caught a stale model-discovery assertion in this change; the assertion is fixed. - The local full-suite run was stopped when master changed. The final CI run supplies exact-head full-suite validation. No live Cloud or provider test was run. ## Risks - Native hello tests require a saved Core account or the installed account. Local environment overrides are unsupported for installed-account probes and fail before the provider runs. - A native task provider must declare launch preparation and authentication-check version 1. It must keep the checked configuration fixed through submission. Core rejects providers that cannot make this guarantee. - A lost task reply does not prove process termination. Core retains grants until the provider proves termination and Core saves required state. - This PR does not enable native heartbeat dispatch through plugin environments. Cloud deployment and live provider validation remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Tool use includes code editing, local tests, and the GitHub CLI. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal issue details - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Create agent records when onboarding names are submitted (#17005)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Core onboarding selects an agent and connects its provider account. > - The current flow creates the agent record after authentication. > - Setup needs a stable agent identity as soon as the user submits its name. > - This PR saves a paused setup record on name submission and finishes the hire on that same record. > - The existing sandbox authentication and approval paths continue to apply. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Core agent lifecycle, shared validators, and onboarding UI. **Current behavior** Onboarding creates the database record at the final hire step. Earlier authentication and saved setup have no agent record. **Proposed behavior** Create a paused agent with a setup hold when the user submits its name. Do this before adapter selection or authentication. Update that same record after adapter selection. Reuse its ID on retries and saved setup. Finish that record through the existing hire path. **Reason and benefit** Give setup a stable identity without coupling this refactor to computer provisioning or a new execution backend. **Breaking changes** Incomplete setup now leaves an inactive agent record. Existing clients can still create and hire agents without the new optional fields. The sandbox authentication flow and API key support remain in place. **Additional context** Requested Core-only refactor. Related work: #15422 changes runner defaults. This PR preserves those choices. No duplicate early-record refactor was found in the issue and PR search. ## What Changed - Save the agent when the user submits its name in both onboarding entry points. Use a provisional adapter until the user chooses one. Reopen name-only drafts at adapter selection. - Add retry-safe setup creation and same-record hire completion. Keep approval checks at final hire. - Save and restore setup configuration in both onboarding entry points. Show Finish setup for paused setup agents. - Restrict setup changes to authorized board users. Block generic resume until setup finishes. - Add lifecycle, authorization, connection, and UI coverage. Update the specification and feature maps. ## Verification - Latest focused server run: 126 lifecycle and AI-connection tests passed after the Apex fixes. An earlier broader run passed 301 lifecycle, instruction, adapter-validation, and AI-connection tests. Earlier authentication, retry, cross-company, and direct-create regressions also passed. - Name-save verification: 336 tests across the wizard, naming dialog, New agent, action-button, and wizard-step suites passed. Coverage includes retry identity, repeated submission, closing during a save, saved-model restoration, and a disabled process adapter. - Shared, server, and UI TypeScript checks passed. The latest UI package check and direct server TypeScript check passed. The server package preparation command could not finish locally because Cargo is unavailable; full build preparation runs in CI. Map checks, token gates, and `git diff --check` passed; each pushed diff was scanned for credentials and PII. - All six onboarding browser tests passed together with installed Chrome against a fresh throwaway instance after the Apex fixes. They include numbered duplicate names, first-time Copilot without a connected account, and Grok’s saved model. They verify early persistence in both entry points, closing and reopening a name-only draft, same-record adapter selection, sandbox sign-in, login reload, and failed-connection gating. Provider responses are simulated; Core persistence is real. - Regression coverage includes incomplete Copilot creation versus final validation, Kimi settings through redacted responses, stale local drafts, company switches during creation, saved environments, and provider changes with personal/shared old bindings. - Apex found five name-only setup gaps: numbered names, early Copilot account validation, the Grok model default, same-name draft ownership, and provisional runner restoration. The fixes preserve server names, defer implicit account binding until hire, set Grok’s model, avoid name-based reuse of unfinished records, and restore Auto for pending adapter choices. UI, database, and browser regressions cover these cases. - Standard Greptile found a Grok provider mismatch in the new adapter save. The save now uses ACPX with the Grok profile. Both the 129-test dialog/setup run and a real-API browser regression passed after the fix. The first browser attempt stopped on an ambiguous empty-roster button selector; it now scopes the click to the toolbar. - Moving the save point exposed a saved-model reset and timing assumptions in the same-name and portal fixtures. The source choice now preserves the restored model, and tests cover same-name recovery without a second hire. - Initial CI exposed direct-create compatibility, concurrent setup effects, fixture assumptions, and a missing-fields assumption in the provider-validation guard. These were fixed and verified locally. Review findings were addressed with authorization, recovery, credential-persistence, and restored-configuration regressions. - The final desktop capture passed after host resource cleanup. A repeat first failed before Core started because macOS had exhausted shared-memory IDs. Standalone PostgreSQL initialization reproduced the same error. Releasing only unattached control segments from this task’s stopped test databases allowed the unchanged revision to pass. No Core or system setting changed. - Local database tests required port access outside the sandbox. Missing declared development dependencies were supplied outside the branch. No live provider sign-in was tested locally. - [Full monorepo CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39522434236) is green on `82b82fec189a172a885d4dd565ae2f4a18c73efc`. Standard Greptile scored 5/5 with zero new comments (check `118969424903`). The subsequent Apex review also scored 5/5 with zero new comments (check `118972866331`) on that same commit. All review threads are resolved. - The separate Superagent Security scan returned neutral/inconclusive because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. GitHub returned 404 for check and suite rerun requests. This is not a successful security scan; the CI workflow and other security checks passed. ## Risks - Users can leave inactive setup records behind, including after name submission alone. These records cannot run until hire completes. - Setup completion touches hiring and approval boundaries. Tests cover retries, company isolation, creator permissions, and approval snapshots. - An uncertain credential-save result retains its new secret reference for retry. A confirmed client rejection removes only credentials staged by that attempt. - No schema migration or VM provisioning change is required. Agent-computer integration is out of scope. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository search, code editing, and tool execution. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] Apex Greptile is also 5/5 on the same commit as standard review and green CI - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover saved work and provide reliable task Retry (#16965)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The control plane must retain work when an execution or workspace export fails. > - Retained-workspace holds can leave saved input waiting with no usable Retry action. > - Users cannot verify process ownership or repair provider allocations. > - This pull request gives system recovery a durable budget and gives each deliberate Retry a durable intent. > - Safe recovery can preserve files, settle an accepted result, or prepare an independent workspace. > - One task state keeps infrastructure diagnostics out of the ordinary conversation while preserving real permission and approval gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task with a retained workspace can show recovery, failed-run and saved-message warnings at the same time. Historical runs without native workspace descriptors cannot use the native restore path. Old recovery metadata can prevent a new attempt even when an independent workspace would be safe. **Expected behavior** Paperclip owns bounded infrastructure retries and file preservation. A user can request another attempt with ordinary Retry. Thinking appears immediately. The service preserves completed effects and current user controls. It does not claim that starting fresh recovered the old files. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Retain a failed run and its workspace after export or process-stop failure. 2. Save a follow-up while the recovery hold is active. 3. Open the task and try to continue without infrastructure credentials or operator certification. Refs #16906, #16835, #16883. This extends their recovery and receipt contracts. Related work: #16962 and #16963. ## What Changed - Add task-level Retry with company-scoped authorization, all-status idempotency and durable admission before physical work. Keep exact-run Retry compatible. - Add typed recovery phases, finite persisted backoff, historical adoption and durable local failure diagnostics. - Preserve native workspaces or verified historical snapshots. Admit an independent fresh workspace only after execution containment. Keep old-source preservation and cleanup obligations separate. - Carry completed publication and API receipts forward. Fence uncertain mutation retries across replacement runs. Preserve connected-chat identity and authorization. - Re-enter normal dispatch for saved input. Reuse accepted results through the existing finalizer. - Use one task interruption projection across the thread, composer and task list. Show optimistic Thinking, ordinary Retry and genuine user gates. - Add PostgreSQL, filesystem, API, browser-fixture and controlled provider coverage. Document the behavior and update the feature/access maps. ## Verification - All GitHub Actions CI jobs pass on `6d8c6d27d50586d8548b31d03b47f6d73a0ee11d`: typecheck, all server/chat/workspace and serialized suites, Runner checks, eight browser shards, canary and build. The required merge gate passes. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5, with no actionable findings or unresolved review threads. Its two earlier P1 findings are fixed. - Full recursive typecheck and build pass locally on the final commit. All 16 task Retry cases pass against isolated real PostgreSQL. The unrelated-success case and both stale Retry cases fail on the previous code and pass after the fix. - The corrected gateway fixture passes its uncertain-mutation and independent-read case. Four real HTTP API cases pass for definite 403/422 rejection, completed-effect reuse, and uncertain-effect fences across deliberate and automatic retries. These focused gateway/API checks used a temporary database lifecycle harness on an existing healthy local PostgreSQL process. The standard repository helper is unchanged. - Earlier qualification covers 291 task UI cases, saved-file copyback and ancestry, current Agent Chat ownership races, nine chat Retry API browser cases, and six assembled browser recovery fixtures. A real API/PostgreSQL/native-runner journey showed Thinking in 25 ms despite a delayed response, admitted one successor in a separate workspace, retained original files, and survived reload. - The controlled Daytona test interrupts export, joins the controller, restarts it in a separate process, and verifies one agent start, one external sentinel operation, retained file contents and no premature cleanup. It does not establish abrupt-kill or live LLM/GitHub acceptance. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and was not green: an OAuth row-lock timing assertion failed, and a later suite exhausted macOS PostgreSQL semaphores. The ten OAuth timing cases passed on rerun against a separate database. Later embedded database initialization failures remain recorded; the final CI matrix passes. - Security scanning passed on production-code commit `63953edf069b111c6becc3144dffa6deb52f68b5`. Its only successor changes one test-fixture identity line. The final scan is neutral/inconclusive because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. Both rerun API requests returned 404, so no fresh successful scan is claimed. Socket and Snyk checks pass on the final head. - The optional Paperclip Review remains queued behind an earlier run in workspace finalization. Its prior completed assessment was incomplete because a comparison tool was blocked by the platform filter. It is not counted as a completed code review. GitHub does not require this check for merge. - Hosted acceptance remains pending deployment. Local and CI results do not establish recovery of a hosted task or its retained files. ## Risks - Recovery changes span admission, physical ownership and dispatch. Incorrect evidence could permit overlapping work. Existing physical locks and authoritative stop requirements remain in place. - The migration adds concurrent indexes. It requires the existing top-level migration runner and retries incomplete index creation safely. - A fresh attempt can complete while old-source preservation remains unresolved. The service retains that obligation and does not report those files as recovered. - Unknown tool mutations remain blocked until their authoritative receipt owner resolves them. Generic upstream tools have no universal result-query protocol. - Recovery and diagnostics stay inside the stack. No Cloud incident endpoint, notification worker or new outbound reporting channel is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. The model used reasoning, shell execution, source editing and browser tools. No model subagents were used for this implementation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; the full local run limitation is documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Add plugin-owned project storage and task workspaces (#17001)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks can use isolated repository workspaces. > - Core currently prepares those repositories on its own filesystem. > - A storage provider may only expose repositories inside remote agent computers. > - Project storage and task workspace preparation must have one provider owner. > - This pull request adds that contract and keeps execution as a separate plugin interface. > - Core keeps authorization, durable task bindings, and lifecycle fences. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin SDK, project workspace policy, heartbeat preparation, execution leases, and workspace lifecycle. **Problem or motivation** Core cannot prepare a task workspace when its repository storage is unavailable on the Core host. An execution lease must not be required just to prepare persistent storage. **Proposed solution** Let one plugin provide project resource lifecycle and workspace prepare, inspect, restore, and remove behavior. Core reserves a task workspace before it calls the plugin. The plugin returns an opaque durable reference. The matching execution plugin receives that reference on its task RPC. **Alternatives considered** Preparing repositories on Core would require a provider mount on Core. Preparing them only during task launch would tie persistent workspace lifecycle to execution leases and agent availability. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the remote provider model in ROADMAP.md. Related execution work is in #16978. This PR does not replace that task bridge. Native execution of managed storage requires the bridge; this change fails closed when it is absent. ## What Changed - Add one storage provider declaration with supported modes/strategies, a capability, a validated RPC contract, and a test harness. - Persist provider ownership, repository revision, and execution-workspace identity before external effects. Reconcile retries with a stable operation ID. - Prepare provider storage before environment acquisition. Keep Core filesystem preparation out of this path. - Pin the durable reference to the matching execution plugin and validate the lease binding before task dispatch. - Route inspection, reopen, and removal through the existing lifecycle process. Keep local data when remote recovery is uncertain. - Keep the application database pool free during lifecycle locks. Preserve pending workspace selections, validate source edits before retirement, and retry unfinished closed storage cleanup. - Protect provider metadata and live repository sources from caller edits. Storage edits retire only closed records with confirmed removal; retired records cannot reopen. ## Verification - Current head `8214b3ca5`: all 25 provider lifecycle tests pass with `maxConnections=1`. They cover preparation, inspection, reopening, removal, a paused provider with responsive ordinary SQL and a competing source edit, pending selection preservation, rejected source edits, cleanup retry scheduling, and providers that cache operation results, and committed cleanup notifications for storage intent and recovered state. - Final frozen-tree lifecycle run on `8214b3ca5`: all 318 tests passed in 10 files, covering workspace services, reopen, compaction, task binding, project sources, heartbeat preparation, display caching, and source locks. - Direct server `tsc --noEmit` passes. The SDK build and all 128 SDK tests passed during initial verification; later SDK changes are documentation only. - Full CI on the previous head `ec5c7209a` passed all 55 applicable checks; 2 conditional checks skipped. Standard Greptile reviewed current head `342e6d9c3` at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. All 55 applicable CI checks passed on `342e6d9c3`; 2 conditional checks skipped. The Slack browser and CLI startup jobs passed on their single unchanged-head rerun. Its Apex review returned 4/5 with one pending-restoration issue. Commit `1b58943b1` reconciles that durable intent before cleanup, advances the generation without reopening the Core row, and blocks direct removal or retirement while intent remains unresolved. Standard Greptile reviewed `1b58943b1` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 54 applicable CI checks passed on `1b58943b1`; 3 conditional checks skipped. The chat job passed on its single unchanged-head rerun. Apex then returned 4/5 for a missing cleanup wake after recovery. Commit `8214b3ca5` atomically registers cleanup intent before storage intent and recovery-result writes. Its provider test observes real committed notification hints and the visible advanced generation. Standard Greptile reviewed `8214b3ca5` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 55 applicable current-head CI checks passed on the first run; 2 conditional checks skipped. Final Apex verification completed at 5/5 on this exact head: 38 files reviewed, no new comments, and no unresolved threads. The PR is ready for review and mergeable. - The first Apex review found five issues after a standard 5/5: application-pool starvation, stale pending selections, retirement during rejected source edits, lost cleanup retries, and reused inspection identities. Commits `6d72e7fd4` and `342e6d9c3` fix each with regression coverage. Archive lock waits use dedicated connections, and source edits fail promptly if the lifecycle is busy. Retirement compares normalized values. The normalized-source regression initially failed with the raw-value comparison; after moving the check after normalization, a clean provider-suite rerun passed all 24 tests at that stage. Those threads are resolved; the earlier Apex 0/5 is not a passing acceptance result. - Earlier local integration attempts could not bind localhost inside the sandbox. The same suites passed with permission to start local PostgreSQL. - The earlier broad local `pnpm test:run` overlapped edits and reported stale-revision and checkout-path/Git-fixture failures. It was not a final-tree result. Full CI subsequently passed; the original local failure remains part of verification history. - Local repository-wide typecheck/build cannot complete because `cargo` is unavailable. Direct server TypeScript checks and affected tests pass; full Rust and build validation comes from CI. - An earlier browser run on `ff918c5a8` failed in the unchanged case-filter journey: expected “Done,” received “All statuses,” with an announcement handler recorded during the assertion. The cause is not confirmed. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39500611857/job/118896954508) remains verification history. The unchanged shard passed in the next full CI run on `ec5c7209a`; no UI or fixture change was made. - Current-head browser shard 2 failed waiting five seconds for the mocked Slack setup Success heading. This PR changes neither that UI nor its fixture. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021232) remains verification evidence. The cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-shard rerun passed; no UI or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The workspace test shard passed its 3,978 general tests, then its CLI company-import/export fixture timed out after 30 seconds waiting for startup health before creating any company or workspace. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021855) remains verification history. The child reached external-PostgreSQL startup without exiting or reporting an exception. Its cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-job rerun passed, including the CLI fixture. No startup or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The new cached-removal regression initially failed because its fake worker advertised availability for unrelated fixture plugins, so another workspace changed its fake checkout state. Worker availability now matches the fixture plugin; the complete 25-test provider suite passes. - On `1b58943b1`, the chat shard timed out polling for one conversation after an authorized GitHub description edit. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39510521657/job/118930193418) remains evidence. The exact case passes locally against PostgreSQL (1 passed, 1,380 unrelated cases skipped), and this PR changes neither that test nor its handler. The original cause is unconfirmed; the single unchanged-job CI rerun passed without a code or fixture change. The original cause remains unconfirmed. - The diff was checked for credentials, private references, and generated artifacts. ## Risks This is an additive provider contract with no database migration. Existing projects keep their local behavior unless their policy selects a storage plugin. A selected provider must be ready and enabled. Unknown or unsafe cleanup fails closed. Managed native execution depends on #16978. Core refuses a host Runner fallback. Providers must fence lifecycle generations, preserve ambiguous retries, and report remote recovery honestly. Provider-specific live storage and guest mount qualification remain separate from these Core contract tests. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with repository inspection, code execution, and tests. The exact model variant was not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (affected suites; broad-run limits are documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer work. > - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion, workspace, and review policy. > - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between agents. > - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access, budgets, and completion gates. > - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and read-only case pages. > - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when work can run and finish. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its own running task. **Proposed solution** Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase, retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`, `update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to `done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted. **Alternatives considered** Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph, or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays removed. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review, budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain authoritative. Related work: [ordinary handoff wake recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release barrier. ## What Changed - Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations. - Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each returning agent's own session and the task's workspace. - Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership, including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting. - Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside retained task/project permissions. - Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts, and current source authorization on every page. - Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls, compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in Audit. - Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile. - Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task threads. - Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount behavior. ## Verification The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614) passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549), with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a required branch check. No check result was overridden. Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008 API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit. On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests** executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files: - 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout. - 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure, a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a fresh worker after the process group stops. - 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts. - 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests. - 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool integration tests. - 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict protocol-contract tests. The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master `9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking; unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior. These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the browser-only retry did not rerun these suites. The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects. The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`. The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged. The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10 tests. The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the 194 critical tests or as live provider proof. All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes. Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review later identified unusable document references with generic API tools disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated HTTP tests address that finding. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped, including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard also passed after the fixture repair. A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6 USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on `6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable. Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48 identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json). This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix, installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout. Preserved CI failures and retries: - On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that shard; no source or timeout changed. - On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19 UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all 32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head, `7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries. - On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease. Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all 41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries. - On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard passed. - On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit. Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed. The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify the original blocking transaction. ## Risks - Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently of scratch setup. - Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and uncertain provider termination. - Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions. This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing task cannot preserve that boundary. - Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill. Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff. - Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access. - Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page. Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old snapshot. - Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy review or approval gates. - This is a large, cross-cutting PR. The maintainer requested one PR for the whole feature; the commits separate data, runtime, UI, and qualification work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use, code execution, and delegated code review. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were not exposed in the session. Connect and configure GitHub Copilot through Apps (#15705)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps and AI Connections store credentials and govern access to agent runtimes. > - Users need a supported saved-token connection and config values that survive save and reopen. > - The release must preserve saved-token access and task lifecycle guarantees. > - This pull request will connect Copilot through the normal Apps and AI Connections path. > - The benefit is a reviewable part of the Copilot production release. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15701 and #15703. Supersedes setup work in #15562. Base: #15703. Next: #15706. ## What Changed - Require configuration update authority before Copilot credential-bearing model discovery; default to the saved environment and preserve explicit selection for editors. - Keep Copilot discovery passive during reconnect reconciliation; refresh on explicit opening, account/environment changes and reconnect. - Add GitHub AI token connections with encrypted storage, ownership, grants and audit logging. - Keep repository access separate from Copilot runtime authentication. - Probe the selected environment without sending a model prompt and preserve authenticated model selection through save/reopen. - Keep fresh execution admission consistent with normal Copilot setup; persist task model choices without changing provider or permission policy. - Refresh authenticated models after reconnecting the same saved Copilot account, including recovery from a previous authentication error. - Apply the additive provider-default constraint migration through the normal generated migration workflow. ## Verification Runtime #15701 is merged at `d855e550ad8d2a267312983f26457aabf5393c3a`. History #15703 is merged at `df80616d98119cbf5abd40549794d9980a5fabf6`. Remaining source [`42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d) contains the four-file authorization repair. The remaining PR trees preserve six nonoverlapping files from the newer public mainline managed-settings fix and the CI-owned lockfile. No unrelated provider is enabled. The security finding is repaired: existing-agent discovery requires `agent_config:update` before connection selection or token resolution. The saved environment is the default. Authorized editors can select a prospective environment. Both denied board-viewer and agent-reader regressions fail on the original source. All49 route tests and server typecheck pass with the fix. Denied requests perform no connection selection, credential resolution or probe. Current-head security scans pass on both remaining PRs; the repaired thread is resolved. Copilot CLI1.0.88 and profile47 retain digest `sha256:55044aa235e88b3fe36ec8a556ee1e3382590870aab907e4462ef7d64af49cea`. The [qualification record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/42bcbd61299655f7e37aabe6bb5f19bba770ad1d/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-qualification-v47.json) reports20/20 Product cells,154 assertions and7/7 protocol cases,46 assertions against frozen normal installed source `c2616370800f5f6df45246b0890ba35a7cd2faab`. The exact qualification model is `gpt-5.6-luna`. Every passing Product case confirms cleanup. Original failures remain recorded; automatic behavior retries are disabled. The route-only authorization repair changes no bound runtime/profile bytes and does not relabel the frozen campaign. The ordinary installed remote journey passed saved-token selection, model discovery, normal UI save/reopen, metadata-only Test, completed task, accepted receipt and exact19-byte browser download. An open model catalog caused no additional discovery requests during117seconds. Actual installed runtime smokes passed on macOS ARM64, macOS x64 under Rosetta and native Linux x64 on Daytona. Raw token browser entry was not exercised; encrypted connection creation used the normal API. The first Daytona file attempt timed out during delayed semantic dispatch; its precise stalled layer remains unresolved. Independent ordinary remote delivery and the other19 Product cells passed before one instrumented recheck passed8/8 with unchanged source, prompt, assertions and deadlines. No causal latency repair is claimed. Before the authorization repair, all four final PR heads passed required verify/E2E and fresh Greptile5/5 reviews with zero unresolved threads. Current-head CI/review is running for the two repaired heads. Local focused checks retain129 connection,59 runner,72 shared-eval and88 recovery/workspace passes, plus migration safety and token gates. The additive Copilot migration is361; released master history is preserved. [Cloud normal-package run39414239704](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39414239704) builds the pre-security source4f3f. All four native producers and Linux package assembly pass; the final clean installed consumers are finishing. All18 retained archives match their hashes;37,863 regular files contain zero selected credentials. That package does not contain the later route repair. The actual final published package must include it and pass the local/Daytona live canaries. The frozen Daytona image remains published and independently verified. No separate full-image scan is claimed. Docker builds run in the cloud. **Remaining:** current-head CI/review, setup and qualification merges, final publication, and ordinary local/Daytona canaries against the actual shipped package. The user explicitly authorizes the maintainer review override; CI remains a merge gate. No production deployment is claimed. Provider USD remains unknown and GitHub-attributed. ## Risks Bad credentials, missing entitlement, runtime installation and unavailable models must remain distinct failures. A connection must not adopt ambient credentials. The constraint migration changes accepted provider values, with no credential-storage migration. Current-master NewAgent fixture extraction is retained. Copilot cases use that shared support and test both passive discovery and explicit reconnect under the same setup lifecycle. The onboarding retry regression shares the component suite’s saved-connection, authenticated-model, draft, agent-list, hire and render lifecycle fixtures. Keeping it beside the existing onboarding failures makes adoption versus duplicate hire observable under the same lifecycle; this is the concrete cohesion reason for the existing large test file. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. fix(recovery): recover retained workspaces before saved messages (#16906)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stopped run can leave useful files in its original sandbox. > - The server keeps that sandbox when it cannot confirm file copyback. > - The task can then save new user input but offers no safe way to recover the files. > - A retry of the old agent turn can repeat work that already finished. > - This pull request recovers files through the existing workspace owner and delivers only saved human input. > - The user can recover a task without certifying infrastructure facts or losing completed work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16883 and #16835 for publication receipts and verified process termination. Related: #16478 clears stale holds after copyback already succeeded. This change performs the missing export and records its proof. #16901 manages the main GitHub response comment and does not perform workspace repair. **What happened?** A failed run retained its workspace. A later user message stayed saved behind a file-repair hold. The task asked the user to verify process termination and file recovery but offered no repair control. Sending a message could show an optimistic Working state and move the task to Todo before admission succeeded. **Expected behavior** The harness should recover the original files when it can prove ownership and termination. It should preserve newer edits and completed operations. Only waiting user input may start another turn. Missing evidence must keep the source held with a specific explanation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Interrupt a sandbox run before workspace finalization succeeds. 2. Retain its exact allocation and save a user follow-up. 3. Observe the file-repair hold and missing end-user repair path. ## What Changed - Add source-bound background recovery for native and legacy runs. An accepted native result is not required. - Share the physical copyback lock and durable owner. Resume only the exact stopped allocation, export files, verify persistence and obtain a fresh stop receipt. - Persist retry limits and idempotent requests on the existing recovery record. Limit each server to two background exports. Add an indexed candidate scan and a separate cleanup obligation. - Add a task-editor recovery endpoint. Deny agents and viewers. Reject caller-supplied stop or repair claims. - Deliver waiting human input once through ordinary admission. Preserve pause, approval, budget and assignment gates. Require historical conversational-adapter evidence for legacy-to-Runner continuation. - Include exact GitHub publication receipts in continuation context. Preserve unknown effects and the original failed run. - Show observed recovery progress, a transient-failure retry action and specific service blockers. Keep saved messages visible. Suppress false startup feedback and implicit Todo promotion behind a file hold. Hide unavailable workspace links. - Update execution semantics, capability maps and production-component stories. ## Verification - Red: the original read model failed the new recovery-progress assertion; the other 23 checks in that file passed. - Passed: recovery regressions with 28 cases with real PostgreSQL, files, tar and Git operations. Lifecycle provider calls are controlled test boundaries. Coverage includes native/legacy export, concurrent owners, rollback after export, interrupted archive export with a new database connection, lost replies, historical discovery, durable retry limits, separate cleanup and saved-input delivery. The actual candidate query uses its partial index with 3,000 unrelated history rows. A first automatic repair can bind verified old-controller stop proof without an accepted native result. Review also reproduced and fixed export-only continuation and cleanup lost after a committed repair. Cleanup remains discoverable without waiting input and after task reconciliation. - Passed: two GitHub integration cases verify that continuation context carries the existing publication receipt and does not write another response. Company and task boundaries are checked. - Passed: 293 continuation, workspace-sync, platform-receipt and OpenAPI checks. After file repair, actual dispatch retains pause, cancellation, approval, real budget-policy and assignment gates. - Passed: 174 route checks, including editor admission, agent/viewer denial and rejection of fabricated repair claims. - Passed: 351 task detail, workspace properties and comment-reopen checks after updating the new read boundaries and asynchronous workspace-link expectations. Two new route cases keep held tasks Blocked when a comment is saved. - Passed: 265 task-thread and recovery-notice checks. The broader continuation suite also passed; its new legacy migration case first exposed a gap that the focused recovery suite now covers. - Passed after rebase: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later master merge adds an unrelated permission migration; recovery migration generation and safety checks passed after the merge. - Passed: token gates, module boundaries, map structure and migration checks. The recovery index is migration 0360 after current master. - Browser: inspected the production recovery component and its retry-to-queued transition with fixture data. The first dev dependency load failed; a reload after optimization resolved it. This is UI evidence, not a live provider recovery claim. - Every test shard passed on final commit `bbbc09efb4`. The older local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the complete CI test matrix passed. Local full typecheck and production build passed. The first CI build compiled and booted, then lost its runner during the clean public npm-install check. An isolated retry passed the build, production boot and clean public npm-install verification. - Greptile reviewed final commit `bbbc09efb4` at 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - The change is not deployed. Hosted recovery remains unverified until the served revision includes this change. ## Risks - Recovery crosses process, provider and persistence boundaries. Missing or mismatched ownership, stop, descriptor or file evidence keeps the hold. It never selects a replacement allocation or silently starts over. - File recovery does not certify external action outcomes or authorize replay. New input still uses normal execution admission. - Historical sources without sufficient durable evidence can remain blocked. Destructive reconstruction stays separate. - The index migration is idempotent. It changes no task data. Snapshot pruning follows repository policy. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with code execution and browser tools. `gpt-6-astra` assisted earlier investigation. The runtime does not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: add one-click retry for restricted workspace setup (#16909)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks need a clear way to resume after a setup failure. > - A shared repository can contain another task that the assigned agent cannot read. > - Paperclip correctly stops before the agent starts, but the user must then understand workspace settings to recover. > - This pull request gives that failure a single Retry button and selects a clean copy of the configured repository through normal admission. > - The task keeps its assigned agent and execution settings, while access checks and existing work remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #16895 classifies the restricted source failure. This change adds the user recovery action. #16906 handles retained files after execution; this change handles a setup failure before execution starts. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Recovery of a task whose shared repository includes a task workspace the assigned agent cannot read. **Current behavior** The task stops before provider work and asks the user to understand workspace choices or access grants. **Proposed behavior** Show Retry above the task message box, independent of loaded conversation history. One click requests one attempt using a clean checkout of the configured remote. Show Retrying while the request is pending. Show an error only if the request fails. **Reason and benefit** The user can resume work without understanding repository isolation or changing access to another task. **Breaking changes** None. The recovery source value is server-owned. The public workspace selection request does not accept it. No migration is required. ## What Changed - Add one Retry control above the composer in both task conversation views. It stays available when an older notice is outside the loaded comment pages. - Bind recovery to the latest failed run, current assignee, and recorded proof that provider work did not start. - Use the existing atomic recovery route and pending workspace selection. Normal admission clears the old session and creates the isolated checkout. - Choose a fresh task-owned branch for recovery, including fixed project branches, existing task branches, and adapter branch overrides. Preserve the model, environment, setup commands, pending user workspace choices, previous files, and all execution gates. - Update execution documentation and both workspace maps. ## Verification - Passed all 461 tests in the eight affected database, Git, HTTP, workspace binding, and conversation suites after the review fixes. An additional 292 tests passed after the final compatibility fixes, including IssueDetail and recovery action routing. - Concurrent HTTP retries produce one wakeup. Paused projects and runs that started provider work reject recovery without changing the workspace. - Real Git tests exclude private files, private commits, and unpublished original files from the clean checkout, preserve the original, and exercise reuse, cleanup, and reopen. - Verified in a running local app: a task failed twice, displayed only Retry, and reached Done after one click. A second browser test put the failure notice behind 501 newer comments and used a fixed project branch. Retry stayed visible and the task reached Done. The credential-free process worker used the selected checkout and wrote its result there. This does not claim a live model-provider run. - The first manual fixture lacked a responsible-user membership and failed after successful workspace recovery. Corrected the fixture, retained that failure evidence, and verified the full flow with ordinary authorization. - Full typecheck, build, token gates, and map checks passed. The full local suite was stopped after review changed its source during execution; current-head CI provides the complete suite result. - An earlier unrelated peer-comment read test hit a socket hangup. The next complete affected-suite run passed; the first failure is retained in local evidence. - Current-head CI hit an unchanged runner credential-concurrency test failure. That lane passed on the preceding commit, and all 42 credential tests passed locally. The original failed job is retained; the one-time rerun passed. All latest-head CI checks are green (55 success, 2 skipped, 1 neutral), and Greptile is 5/5 with both review threads resolved. ## Risks - A remote repository outage can still prevent the next attempt. Retry does not grant access or copy unpublished files from the old checkout. - Recovery accepts only the latest recorded pre-provider failure and preserves normal execution gates. This limits duplicate work and stale recovery requests. - No database migration, dependency, or lockfile change. - The first review found fixed-branch retry loops and dependence on paginated notice history. Both had failing regressions before the fixes and now pass targeted tests and the combined browser journey. - Full CI then caught assumptions about missing run evidence and unrelated recovery actions. fix(auth): let Cloud stack admins manage experimental settings (#16907)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People use experimental settings to opt into product features. > - Cloud stack Admins can manage their company, but cannot save an experiment. > - Requiring an Owner role adds unrelated privileges to this workflow. > - This pull request gives trusted Cloud stack Admins permission to update experiments. > - Other instance administration and platform settings keep their existing checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A person with the Cloud stack Admin role receives “Instance admin access required” when they enable an experimental setting, such as Fast responses. **Expected behavior** Cloud stack Admins can save editable experimental settings. This permission does not grant general instance-admin authority. Members, Support users, and agents cannot change experiments. Cloud-managed and operator-hidden settings remain protected. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign into a Cloud staging workspace as a stack Admin. 2. Open Settings → Experimental. 3. Enable Experimental fast responses. 4. Observe the permission error instead of a saved setting. **Additional context** Related: #10343 introduced computed Owner elevation. #15748 added Fast responses and the company Connections settings page. The roadmap and existing PRs were checked. This is a small authorization fix for the existing settings path. ## What Changed - Derive experiment-management authority from the current trusted Cloud stack Admin role on each request. - Apply that authority only to the experimental settings PATCH route. Keep general settings, environment defaults, and task drain restricted to instance admins. - Preserve existing hidden-setting checks, managed feature restrictions, and activity records. - Add role and role-downgrade regressions, allowed and denied route cases, staging coverage, and updated OpenAPI and access documentation. ## Verification - Before the fix, the Admin fast-response request returned 403 and the new role assertions failed. The first sandboxed HTTP run could not bind local sockets; the regression run outside that sandbox reached the expected authorization failures. - Focused Cloud actor, settings route, managed-overlay, and health tests: 149 passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` pass. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. - Greptile reviewed commit `7c33b90066121f03183579d2fae2650755e025e4` at 5/5. Its one style finding is fixed and resolved. - The full local `pnpm test:run` did not pass. It reported two early collection failures before workspace build outputs were ready and a 15-second timeout in the unchanged AgentMail recovery test. The run was stopped after those failures while the full CI suite continued. No full local-suite pass is claimed. - The first current-head CI attempt failed the unchanged Runner test “preserves a real listening process and its marker when a health RPC times out” with `runner_remote_process_identity_unavailable` / `process_identity_changed`. The test passes in a local isolated run. This recovery does not establish the CI failure's cause. [Failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39332989655/job/118336142261). The failed shard passed on its single rerun. The failure cause remains unconfirmed. All CI checks on commit `7c33b90066121f03183579d2fae2650755e025e4` are now green. [Final CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39332989655). - No deployed staging behavior is claimed. Manual acceptance after deployment: as a stack Admin, enable Fast responses, reload, and confirm Connections appears. Confirm Members and Support users still cannot save experiments. ## Risks - This intentionally extends experimental settings write access to Cloud stack Admins. It does not persist an instance-admin role or expand other instance controls. - Production retains its existing managed feature policy. Staging retains its editable experiment allowlist and protected execution and owner-elevation settings. - No database migration or UI change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser inspection. The runtime does not expose an exact model snapshot or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: give commentary its own default read permission (#16903)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Commentary collects agent suggestions and complaints for company members. > - Commentary used the permission for detailed agent-action audits. > - Owners, admins and viewers could therefore receive a permission error when they opened Commentary. > - This pull request gives commentary its own permission and enables it for all human company roles. > - Members can read feedback while task privacy and detailed audit access keep their own checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16884, which added the Commentary browser. A search found no open PR for this permission fix. **What happened?** Commentary returned `Missing permission: audit:view_agent_actions` for company members without the detailed audit grant. Default owners, admins and viewers did not receive that grant. **Expected behavior** All human company roles can read commentary by default. A separate `commentary:view` permission controls this access. Private source tasks remain private. Commentary access does not grant detailed agent-action audits or CSV exports. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign in as an active company owner, admin or viewer without `audit:view_agent_actions`. 2. Open Audit, then Commentary. 3. Observe the permission error before this change. **Paperclip version or commit** Base commit: `7c58ea07b2`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server or Cloud tenant. ## What Changed - Add `commentary:view` to the shared permission contract and all human role defaults. - Require that permission for commentary list and detail reads. - Add an idempotent upgrade migration for existing active human members. Preserve existing grants and scopes. - Add the commentary default when approving saved human invitation grants that omit it, including pre-upgrade invitations. Preserve explicit commentary scopes. - Add regression coverage for role defaults, permission removal, audit separation, private tasks and migration replay. - Update the API description, specifications, database notes and access maps. ## Verification - Passed 68 tests across commentary reads, role grants, old-invitation HTTP acceptance, migration replay, agent audit routes, access services and migration snapshot drift under the repository's locked dependencies. - Confirmed the new role and read tests failed before the implementation. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Migration numbering and safety checks passed during the build. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed locally after the invitation fix. - The final-commit CI matrix passed, including all test shards, typecheck, build, public-install checks and canary smoke. The redundant local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the full CI matrix completed; the 68 focused local regressions passed separately. - The first install bypassed the stale lockfile and selected a newer diff-viewer API. The initial typecheck and build failed in that unrelated plugin. Installing the locked versions cleared both failures; the tracked lockfile is unchanged. - The first locked-dependency regression run hit the 15-second limit while importing the audit route graph in its first test. Moving that import into suite setup fixed the timeout; all 58 regressions then passed. - Greptile found that pre-upgrade invitations retain old grant lists. New helper and HTTP regressions reproduced this gap before the fix, then passed after approval added the missing commentary default. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5 with no remaining actionable findings. Its earlier thread is resolved. - No UI code changed. The permission tests use real disposable PostgreSQL databases and HTTP routes. ## Risks - The upgrade deliberately enables commentary for every existing active human company member, including viewers. Existing commentary grants retain their saved scopes. - Source-task privacy still filters previews, counts, searches and full messages. Agent-authenticated browsing remains denied. - Agent-action audit grants, detailed filters and CSV export permissions keep their current behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository editing and command execution. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(skills): unblock agent attachment and preserve Latest selections (#16899)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators attach company skills to agents from the skill library. > - Attachment first reads the agent's skill snapshot to preserve other assignments. > - That read materialized and validated repository files for the entire library, even in read-only mode. > - The response also treated resolved runtime versions as stored pins. Saving could then fail with beta pins disabled. > - This pull request makes version-cache inspection lightweight and returns the stored assignment choices. > - The benefit is a responsive attachment flow that preserves Latest and explicit pins. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Adding a repository skill to an agent could stall before the save request. The prerequisite snapshot read projected or checked every file in every installed repository skill. Once it returned, an existing Latest assignment could become a version pin in the save payload. The server then rejected that save when beta skill pins were disabled. **Expected behavior** Reading assignments must not prepare all repository snapshots for execution. Adding a skill must preserve the other assignments and their Latest or pinned choices. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Install repository-backed skills with stored immutable versions and cold disk caches. 2. Assign one repository skill to a Claude agent with Latest selected. Leave beta skill pins disabled. 3. Open another skill, select Add to agent, choose the same agent, and save. 4. Observe the expensive prerequisite read and the beta-pin rejection after that read completes. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced from master at `ac9459bae3329395f10bc81c638a374eef152baa`. **Deployment mode** Observed in hosted staging. Reproduced with a disposable local instance, embedded PostgreSQL, and the Claude local adapter on macOS arm64 with Node 26.4.0. Related: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9995 adds a separate read-only assignment endpoint for peer-agent access. This fix keeps the existing configuration-gated snapshot and its permissions. ## What Changed - Respect read-only listing for current and pinned version caches. Check directory and entrypoint safety without projecting repository contents, reading all support files, or updating cache access records. - Keep complete snapshot restoration and byte validation at run preparation. Missing caches are restored from stored data. Corrupted files are repaired there. - Return stored assignment version choices in both list and sync responses. Keep runtime version details in the snapshot entries. - Add database-backed regressions for cold and warm reads, pinned versions, execution repair, and unsafe entrypoints. Add HTTP regressions for save round trips and explicit pins. - Update developer documentation and verification recipes. ## Verification - Red: both latest and pinned read-only cache regressions failed on the original code. The original code created caches during listing. - Red: the HTTP save-roundtrip regression returned 400 with the beta-pin error. The explicit-pin regression also failed. - Green: the updated API and cache suites passed all 145 tests. The three related company-skill service suites also passed. - Real browser: attached a repository skill to a paused test agent with another repository skill already set to Latest and beta pins disabled. The success toast appeared. The skill's Agents tab retained the assignment after reload. API reads confirmed both assignments remained unpinned and no repository version caches were created. - Local synthetic fixture: six skills share a 606-file repository snapshot. A cold HTTP skill-list request completed in 241 ms. This is local evidence, not a staging latency measurement. - Real service comparison on that fixture: the baseline cold list wrote 3,648 version/cache files. A warm baseline list read 3,642 version files and wrote six access records (457 ms). The fixed warm list read and wrote zero version/cache files (61 ms). Both services returned the same 16 library entries. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. The final API edit also passed the server typecheck. - `pnpm build` passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed. - The broad `pnpm test:run` invocation reported six failures in the untouched `tool-gateway-service.test.ts` suite. An isolated rerun passed all 59 tests. The broad run was stopped after recording those failures, so it is not a green full-local result. The PR CI matrix separately passed those suites. Greptile completed on the current commit with 5/5, zero comments, and no open threads. - One CI shard was interrupted by runner shutdown, with no failed assertion in its log. A single failed-job retry passed on the same commit. The aggregate CI gate passed. All current-head PR checks are complete with no failing or pending checks. - This PR does not claim that the fix has been deployed to staging. ## Risks - Settings reads check cache locations and entrypoints. They defer full support-file validation to execution. Regression tests verify that execution still repairs corrupt bytes and restores missing versions. - The response now distinguishes stored pins from resolved runtime versions. Explicit historical pins remain intact. Company, configuration, connector, and beta-pin authorization gates keep their existing behavior. - No schema migration or dependency change. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact runtime build ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(issues): guard prepared task promotion by status version (#16893)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Integrations can prepare a backlog task before its assigned agent starts. > - A person can change its status or assignment during preparation. > - An unconditional promotion can replace that newer decision. > - Safe promotion needs a saved revision that includes every assignment path. > - This pull request checks that revision under the task row lock and derives policy cleanup from the locked row. > - The benefit is safe initialization recovery with the existing company, task, and run authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Prerequisite #16896 has merged. This PR now targets master and contains only the conditional promotion API. The prerequisite fixed the confirmed baseline first-upload browser regression. **What happened?** A client that saves a task's initial documents and then sends an unconditional status update can override a concurrent status or assignment decision. The update validator previously dropped an expected version, so clients could not make this promotion conditional. Some direct assignment and release paths also did not advance the revision. **Expected behavior** A prepared task moves from backlog to todo only if its original status and assignment revision still matches. A stale request returns 409 before a task mutation, audit publication, or wake. Policy cleanup preserves unrelated saved settings. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a backlog task and save its statusVersion before preparing it. 2. Release its assignment, or change an assignee and then restore that assignee. 3. Send `{ "status": "todo", "expectedStatusVersion": <original revision> }` to its PATCH endpoint. 4. The stale promotion must return 409. A matching revision on an unchanged backlog task must succeed. Duplicate and related PR searches found no existing prepared-task promotion fix. ## What Changed - Accept an optional nonnegative expectedStatusVersion for exactly a status-only backlog-to-todo promotion. Reject extra public fields before parsing can discard them. - Check the current revision and backlog state under the issue row lock. Reject stale requests before checkout adoption or execution-control effects. - Add SQL migration 0358 to advance the revision for both assignee fields at the database boundary. Release, administrative release, direct writes, and assignment round trips now invalidate an old version. - Derive guarded policy cleanup from the locked row. Preserve review limits and protected authorization when removing a monitor. Reject derived ownership changes or review decisions. - Add schema, real HTTP/PostgreSQL, concurrency, migration replay, and policy regression coverage. Update the response type, OpenAPI, developer docs, and access map. ## Verification - Red before the initial fix: stale requests returned 200 instead of 409, validation removed the expected version, and a stale active task could adopt a checkout. - Review found two further defects. Four new release/direct-assignment tests showed unchanged revisions. The real HTTP/service test returned 422 for a valid two-field promotion after monitor cleanup. Helper tests also proved that cleanup lost valid review limits and protected authorization. All now pass after focused repairs. - Green: 124 route and policy tests, including 7 real Express/PostgreSQL cases, 37 existing route tests, and 80 policy/helper tests. The real row-lock race preserves a policy edit committed while promotion waits. - Green: all 23 database client tests, plus 9 focused assignment and replay checks. Historical migration 0227 receipt recovery cannot remove the new assignment trigger. Reapplying migration 0358 leaves existing rows unchanged and installs one trigger. Combined status/assignment writes increment once; unchanged assignees do not increment. - Earlier verification passed all 218 schema/route/service cases and the generated OpenAPI capability test. Rebased focused regressions passed all 27 selected cases. Final server TypeScript passed after all repairs; shared TypeScript passed. Migration safety/numbering, five-snapshot retention, map validation, and diff checks pass. - The baseline browser attachment case failed twice on the earlier head. Separate #16896 proved the lost-composer cause, passed 335 component tests and the real first-upload journey, and has green CI with a 5/5 review. No assertion or timeout was weakened. - Some early local checks were blocked by missing or stale sibling dependency artifacts. This worktree now has its own frozen offline install and standard SDK prerequisites. The failures and successful reruns remain in the task evidence. - Before rebasing, head `3304bb00de6ad6a248b5e046c008072ad20ac8f5` passed all CI (55 successful checks and one neutral), Greptile 5/5, and a secondary source review at 5/5 with no unresolved findings. The secondary reviewer did not execute project tests, inspect CI, or exercise a live agent journey. Earlier incomplete and must-fix assessments remain visible; both established findings are repaired above. - After #16896 merged, all five CAS commits were rebased onto master `87d9386ae637c652d1fed09d2046be1bcaeb413b`. Migration 0358 was regenerated because master added another 0357. Range comparison shows no other change to the CAS patches; inherited UI commits are absent. The original head is preserved locally. - Rebased head `1c0264e51a280b1dbf597725a7e42e72d4be1b1b` passes all 124 route/policy tests, 9 selected assignment/promotion tests, and all 24 database client/snapshot-drift tests. Database build, migration checks, generated snapshot linkage, five-snapshot retention (0354–0358), maps, and diff checks pass. Fresh-head CI and review are pending. No deployment or live agent journey was performed for this API. ## Risks - The guard supports prepared backlog promotion only. Other statuses or mixed public mutation fields return 422. A stale revision or non-backlog row returns 409. - Preserve the original version from a server that already advertises this guard before initialization. Older versions did not track every assignment path. Reconcile older or uncertain initialization instead of fetching a new revision and blindly retrying. - Migration 0358 is SQL-only and idempotent. It adds no table, column, or task backfill. Its separate trigger survives historical status-migration replay. - Existing authorization and unguarded updates remain in place. Guarded promotion does not provide a general lifecycle or review-stage control API. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed by this session. Used tool calls, code execution, and test-first regression verification. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: configure company agent observability (#16874)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Companies use several agent harnesses and execution environments. > - Operators need one place to select where native agent logs and traces go. > - An inference proxy would add a dependency to the agent request path. > - This pull request supplies native OpenTelemetry settings to managed Codex and Claude Code processes. > - Company secrets protect destination credentials. Export failure does not change the task result. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Company settings, shared contracts, database, server, adapters, and runner. **Problem or motivation** An operator cannot configure a company destination for native agent logs and traces. Manual harness configuration is hard to apply across local and remote execution. **Proposed solution** Add one company destination: Braintrust or a custom OTLP HTTP/protobuf endpoint. Apply a transient snapshot when execution preparation starts. Keep credentials out of API reads, task environment manifests, recovery files, and command arguments. Replace a warm process when its export settings change and preserve its conversation. **Alternatives considered** Multiple destinations can use a user-operated collector for fan-out. This change does not add a collector, an inference proxy, or transcript scraping. **Roadmap alignment** This extends company settings, secret management, and support for multiple harnesses. The maintainer requested this implementation. Searches for observability and Braintrust found no duplicate company destination feature. Related infrastructure tracing work in #16236 has a separate content-free contract. ## What Changed - Add strict schemas, revision checks, encrypted secret storage, activity records, and board-only settings routes. - Add explicit synthetic logs and traces tests with a bounded HTTP request and sanitized results. - Supply native Codex configuration and Claude Code environment values through local and remote launch paths. - Preserve Codex login refresh through the existing managed credential link. Retain unsaved drafts across background reads. Require complete custom header re-entry when the endpoint origin changes. - Separate process export compatibility from conversation identity. Isolate generated Codex configuration and preserve resumable sessions, including remote home refresh after export changes. - Advance the immutable Pi/Copilot source attestations for shared environment and sidecar code changes. Keep their provider payloads unchanged and retain prior identities for decoding. - Redact destination credentials throughout launch diagnostics and HTTP logs. - Add the production settings form, Storybook states and journey, documentation, and feature/access map entries. ## Verification - Real managed local Codex 0.160.0 and Claude Code 2.1.286 tasks exported to Braintrust. API readback and the Braintrust UI showed the test records. A real remote Daytona Codex task exported through the legacy `exec` path. - Live tests exercised content capture off, export disabled, warm conversation reuse, and a destination that accepted connections but never replied. Agent work succeeded and export requests stopped at the configured three-second timeout. The UI connection test returned “Test payload accepted”; the saved API key stayed masked after reload. - All current-head CI test lanes, typechecks, packaging/build checks, and required aggregates passed on `71e994b2be9c8fb6d6e938a4ad7cf4c95fdafe31` ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318)). Greptile completed on that exact commit at 5/5, with zero unresolved review threads. The additional optional Paperclip Review check remains queued waiting for its assigned agent. - Local workspace typecheck and build passed. Focused verification included 239 combined runner tests, 789 API/native-session tests, 107 Codex home/ACP/sandbox-site tests, 204 feature/privacy tests, and the affected Rust suites. Migration, token, map, Storybook catalog, and Storybook build checks passed during acceptance. These checks ran at the relevant implementation or merge boundary; the current-head CI is the complete final gate. - Managed AI credential projections now receive enabled and disabled company export settings; genuine caller-owned Codex homes remain untouched. Two regressions reproduced the skip before the repair. All 276 engine/lifecycle tests and adapter-utils typecheck pass afterward. The launched TOML retains provider/MCP settings, credential continuity, and redaction. - Settings saves, removal, and the real company-deletion owner acquire secret mutation ownership before database locks. PostgreSQL NOWAIT probes cover all three paths; concurrent save/rotation/removal/deletion requests settle correctly. The affected suites passed 137 tests, followed by all 32 service/connection cases after expanded deletion coverage. Server and Codex adapter typechecks pass. - Codex source profiles use the effective CLI argument list. A spawned fixture CLI reproduced both ignored-argument failures; all three precedence/fallback cases now pass. - Real tar staging reproduced remote conversation loss in both API-key and subscription modes before the repair. Both now pass: changing managed settings preserves sessions, archives, native indexes, and refreshed subscription credentials. A corrupt upload preserves the prior config and conversation. - Preserved failure evidence: initial CI caught stale Pi/Copilot source attestations, a missing test-harness helper, and packaging fixture/probe mismatches; those were corrected and covered by focused checks. Superseded heads had intermittent attachment-composer timeouts despite successful uploads; [the original trace and screenshot remain available](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39309701089/artifacts/12215109203). The same attachment case passed on the final head: [25/25 tests in shard 3](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318/job/118288637051). - A connection-fault fixture also exposed a stale pooled socket after its hang case; closing fixture responses isolated scenarios and the full affected suite passed. - The broad local test run was not clean: database resource failures, timeouts, an older cached module graph, and a stale optional-resource manifest assumption were recorded. Focused checks passed after the documented fixes. This does not establish a clean full local pass. - Native remote Codex, remote Claude, and the full ACPX Codex bridge remain unqualified. The direct Codex resume test does not establish full bridge acceptance. ## Risks - Native exporters perform network requests from each execution environment. A server connection test does not prove remote reachability. - Prompts, assistant responses, and tool content are enabled by default when supported. Native caps and harness-specific controls still apply. - Caller-owned Codex homes are unsupported for automatic configuration and remain untouched. - Native harnesses and their tool processes can inspect export credentials. The settings form and documentation advise using ingestion-scoped credentials. Retained headers remain bound to their saved scheme, host, and port; changing origin requires fresh values or removal. - Migration 0357 adds a company-scoped row and secret reference. feat: add Commentary to Audit with filters and shareable messages (#16884)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents can submit suggestions and complaints while they work. > - Operators currently need database access to read those messages. > - That makes it hard to find feedback from one agent or share a specific message. > - This pull request adds a standard Commentary tab in Audit. > - Operators can filter messages, browse 50 at a time, and share links to full message dialogs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15367, which added feedback storage and agent submission. The duplicate search found no open PR for a commentary reader. **Subsystem affected** Server, shared API contracts, and the board UI. **Problem or motivation** Agent suggestions and complaints are stored but have no board reader. Operators must query the database to inspect feedback. **Proposed solution** Add Commentary to Audit without an experimental toggle. Show previews, agent and message-type filters, text search, and 50-message pages. Opening a row updates the URL. A copied URL opens the full message with its agent, task, and run context. **Alternatives considered** Direct database queries remain useful for operators, but do not provide a normal product workflow. An experimental setting would add setup to a read-only audit page. **Roadmap alignment** This completes the operator view for the existing feedback feature. It supports human oversight and does not change agent execution or task ownership. ## What Changed - Add company-scoped, board-only list and detail endpoints with audit permission and source-task privacy checks. - Return bounded previews and counts. Fetch full bodies only when a message opens. - Add the Commentary tab, search, filters, 50-row pagination, and URL-based selection. Audit tab destinations work in both layouts, with a classic sidebar entry for Commentary. - Add production Storybook examples for populated, filtered, linked, long, paginated, empty, loading, failed, denied, mobile, and light states. - Update API documentation and the feature and agent access maps. ## Verification - Final head `abc4a251c14cfbfec007542214beec528f2b18bf`: 55 checks pass; two conditional Storybook checks are skipped. The PR workflow is successful. Greptile is 5/5 with all findings resolved. - Focused database, HTTP, submission, OpenAPI, and UI regression tests cover company isolation, task privacy, filter bounds, 50-row pagination, and copied message links. - Browser Storybook journeys cover row opening, direct links, combined filters, search, and pagination. Storybook uses synthetic API fixtures; database authorization is tested separately. - Token gates, feature maps, and Storybook catalog validation pass. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm build-storybook` pass on the rebased branch. All 80 focused tests and all 37 Audit tests pass, including the real App route table in both layouts, task grant/revocation through HTTP, deleted-task privacy, and URL UI regressions. The full suite passes in the parallel PR CI matrix. The local serial full-suite run was stopped before completion after checking the recorded 94-minute serial duration. Local focused tests, workspace typecheck, production build, and final server/UI checks pass. - The linked-message Storybook test initially asserted against the loading dialog. It now waits for the message body; both direct-link and row-open journeys pass. - Native and legacy deleted-task privacy regressions failed before the fix and pass afterward. The reader checks the run task binding after the task foreign key clears. - A rapid search-then-agent-filter browser regression reproduced the search overwriting the selected agent. The pending search now restarts when URL filters change. The same browser test passes with both filters applied. - CI found two existing AuditHub assertions that still expected five tabs. They now assert the six-tab model and selected-company Commentary rendering. All 37 Audit tests pass. All other test and build jobs passed before this test-only correction. - The [agent-chat attachment browser test](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39307881171/job/118250189664) timed out waiting for an attachment preview. The [same shard passed on the prior head](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39306658703/job/118245498343) with identical application code; the intervening change only updates AuditHub unit tests. The single retry passed on the same head. The precise cause of the earlier failure remains unconfirmed. ## Risks - Commentary may contain sensitive task context. The reader requires board access and audit permission, and filters source-task visibility before returning previews, counts, or full bodies. - Text search scans stored message bodies. Pages are bounded and full bodies are fetched on demand. - Offset pagination can shift if new messages arrive while paging. Ordering uses timestamp and ID for stable ties. - No database migration or agent submission behavior changes are required. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, browser interaction, and code execution. The exact backend model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner (#15993)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets users choose an agent harness and account. > - The server resolves the runner for new agents. > - Claude still needs the same ordinary native-default journey as Codex. > - Existing agents must retain their runner, model and account. > - This PR defaults new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner with Opus 5.5. > - Users can connect and work without a runner override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. This PR depends on #15994 and precedes #15997. Related scope: #15422, #13978 and #15224. ## What Changed - Resolve new Apple Silicon Claude agents to `paperclip_runner`, `provider: acpx`, `acpxAgent: claude`. Keep explicit Legacy, models, provider routing and saved execution. - Use `claude-opus-5-5` for ordinary Claude defaults and retain explicit overrides. - Reuse existing API-key/subscription connections, credential storage and checks. Generalize the shared Advanced runner control with Claude branding. - Carry configured effort into the shared v9 contract. Preserve compatible permissions, instructions, skills, timeouts and session behavior. Require Legacy for unsupported settings. - Qualify a new immutable managed Claude target at explicit Connect through the existing permission-gated probe. Use fresh scoped discovery for test and hire. Discard stale results and require an explicit Connect after settings change. - Retain merged Codex onboarding recovery, auth preparation, import/effort corrections and Grok Bot gates. - Check the Claude first-task wizard's saved default directly. Update configuration/runtime documentation and exact Opus 5.5 accounting. - Align hire fixtures with the merged host-environment restriction. Native agent-authenticated hires cannot inject host env settings; both creation endpoints verify that no extra agent is saved. ## Verification - Updated onto master `9179d8dcc3e908c217fde4f63c9d08ccf8132eeb` through #15994. Native input v9 carries effort while preserving v7 home modes and v8 Muse. Codex defaults remain unchanged. - Focused local verification passed 285 server tests, 323 UI tests, 124 setup/registry tests, and two v9 permission-pin transport cases. Direct server/UI TypeScript checks passed. An initial 30-second hook timeout was resolved by serial verification with a longer hook budget: all 122 credential/permission cases and 232 snapshot/environment cases pass. Direct server TypeScript checking also passes. - Ordinary web creation with the experiment disabled saved native Claude, Opus 5.5 and High effort without runner/model overrides. The actual product task and follow-up both succeeded on integrated source `b2c9fe43f9cd3bc5dd9d22552da0148845ba71a4` with the cloud-built daemon from `04e0202ca81387b17cbe7fd094a8338648356fe9`. The final master reconciliation also changes shared runtime source. Historical proof retains its source identity; a final-source cloud qualification is running before refreshing the preview daemon. - Both actual browser downloads were checked: v1 has three sections/six checkboxes (451 bytes); v2 preserves the original body and adds two Rollback checks (612 bytes). The original attachment stayed byte-identical. The follow-up records session resume and the same provider session. Total estimated API usage: $0.518432800, with no pending/unpriced usage in the successful fixture. - Fixed the live-discovered setup incompatibility: native API-key validation no longer depends on the global Legacy Claude CLI. The existing provider endpoint verifies the key without a paid prompt; subscription/custom routing probes remain intact. - Fixed security review's native-hire credential redirection: agent-supplied URLs, proxy/launch settings and other host environment controls are rejected before inheritance. Native credential references remain supported and partial edits use the saved harness. Added create/hire/update regression coverage. - Current-head cloud CI is green. All three stack PRs have fresh Greptile 5/5 reviews and zero unresolved review threads. Required typecheck, test and build gates ran in cloud CI; Docker work stayed remote. Earlier failed checks remain in their original runs. - Docker and native release builds ran in cloud infrastructure. An inadvertent local Rust prerequisite was stopped; no local Docker build was run. - The final master merge preserves task-loading, permission, skill-retention and OpenRouter changes. Pi uses a fresh combined profile 27, preserving both historical profile-24 declarations; Copilot remains profile 22. Focused protocol checks passed 155 cases (one skipped), the updated Pi attestation check passed 18 (one skipped), and 91 evaluation/catalog checks passed. - Latest-application manual continuation passed in 37.942 seconds on `695e5c005a85bddc8711d3fcddcaf6b7e1fb64d0`, with High effort, native Opus 5.5, Anthropic API attribution, the same resumed Claude session, an independently checked 635-byte file and persisted Done status. It uses the earlier verified Mac daemon; the preceding-source package qualification passed at `dca62c7aeb4b45f0dd91a8e18d386a16a2658ef8`. That package run predates the small TypeScript startup fix and is not relabeled as qualification for it. - Upgrade limitation: changed compiled sidecar identity rejected old durable launch state and recovery hit session-open bounds before eventually resuming. That attempt was operator-cancelled and retained; the successful manual continuation does not qualify seamless upgrades. - Local latency profile, Opus 5.5/High unchanged: three alternating real-ACP loopback samples per variant reduce median provider-ready time from 5.081s to 4.034s. The matched real API task startup improves from 5.533s to 4.348s, but total reply time changes from 17.933s to 20.221s because agent work varies. This establishes a startup saving of about one second, not a consistent total-reply speedup. A real candidate follow-up passed in 20.146s and resumed the same saved session. The loopback fixture makes no external model requests; failed initial probes remain retained. - The startup change passes 107 focused runtime/effort/lease tests, 53 profile checks (one skipped), TypeScript checking and the TypeScript-only runtime build. Native hire fixture checks pass 70 tests; their first local run retained a socket-hangup failure and stale OpenCode expectation, both accounted for before the passing rerun. Broader required checks run in cloud CI. ## Risks - Missing packages, authentication rejection, unsupported settings and unavailable models must fail explicitly. Existing agents retain saved execution; explicit runner changes use existing revision/session invalidation. - Subscription follow-up remains unverified; remaining live acceptance uses API keys per human steering. Historical accounting holds and the separate $50 ceiling remain intact. - The subscription acceptance limit remains explicit for review. No Claude database migration is introduced. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution and browser testing. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] Focused local tests and final cloud verification pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): load recent tasks with bounded summaries (#16851)
Replace passive recent-task detail reads with bounded, authorized summaries. Keep account isolation, stored history, task actions, and live recovery behavior. Overlap access checks with shell settings and avoid duplicate session and health reads on the first healthy socket opening. Retain domain reconciliation. Add focused coverage and local performance evidence. Isolate the existing cache capacity test from entry expiry on slow CI runners. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add unified Google Workspace connector (#15545)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connected Apps supply governed tools to those agents. > - Google services currently require separate connections or one broad request. > - Users need one account and control over which services it can access. > - A picker must change the OAuth request, not just the screen. > - This pull request binds selected services to consent and tool access. > - The benefit is simpler setup without enabling unselected tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Connections catalog, OAuth grants, and the MCP tool gateway. **Current behavior** Google setup uses separate service profiles. A combined request alone cannot express the user's choice before Google consent. Accumulated Google grants can be broader than a new request. **Proposed behavior** Offer one Workspace connection. Let users choose Gmail, Drive (including Docs, Sheets, and Slides), and Calendar. Start all three with read and write access. Let users disable groups or choose read-only access. Do not offer Chat, Contacts/directory, or cross-service Search in new setup. Bind selected scopes to durable OAuth state. Cap effective tool access to both the saved request and provider-reported consent. **Reason and benefit** Users can choose services without managing several accounts. Existing company, identity, agent, and action-policy controls remain in force. **Breaking changes** No database migration. Existing service connections and grants remain supported. New Workspace requests require the companion broker change in https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/823. Old brokers reject narrowed requests safely. Related work: #14740 reduced Google scopes; #14774 introduced the earlier catalog hold. #15412 proposes a separate Gmail REST implementation. This maintainer-requested change extends the existing Connections and governed tool gateway paths. It does not replace them. ## What Changed - Add one Workspace catalog entry and a namespaced action catalog. Retain legacy definitions and saved accounts. - Use the approved production service picker in Apps and task-hosted setup. Keep dropdowns between names and toggles. Block empty selection. - Derive exact scopes from a closed registry. Default selection requests nine scopes. New requests exclude Chat, Contacts/directory, and Search scopes. - Bind selected scopes through managed and customer-owned OAuth state, callback, claim redemption, and refresh. - Cap accumulated Google grants to the saved selection. Recheck grant-specific permission at discovery, listing, and dispatch, including cached actions. - Restore the current subject's saved request on reconnect. Block on grant-load failure. Preserve draft selection on cancel and retry. Do not create an account on picker cancellation. - Preserve healthy services during partial outages, without combining grants across identities. Keep writes from being automatically replayed. - Preserve the original 21-scope legacy Workspace envelope contract as individual profiles evolve. - Add production-component Storybook stories, request validators, consent regression tests, and rollout guidance. Integrate the stories with the current feature catalog while preserving their IDs. ## Verification - Integrated branch merges current master and has no merge conflicts. - Full workspace build passed on the integrated checkout. - Token gates passed. Storybook catalog structure check passed: 283 files and 2,750 stories. - Final affected app suites: 914 passed. This includes 502 database-backed service/gateway tests and 412 UI/shared/validator/broker-handoff/governance tests. The production picker tests cover defaults, identity-specific reconnect, and failed-load recovery. - Full workspace typecheck passed after adding required current-master Storybook annotations. The final UI build also passed. - The full repository suite is still running and includes the two pre-fix retry assertions. Both were updated for the current gateway's explicit-retry contract and pass in the clean 502-test database run. No complete final-head full-suite pass is claimed. - The initial local database startup failure came from missing native-library symlinks in the fresh dependency install. The package's postinstall repair fixed it; the clean database-backed run has no skipped tests. - Broker focused suite: 47 passed, including real signed session → callback → claim redemption and wrong-scope rejection. Full broker suite before the final test-only follow-up: 3,562 passed, 103 skipped. - Real integrated-app walkthrough: Connectors → Workspace → customer-owned app → service picker. Verified all three defaults, empty-selection blocking, cancel/reopen with the selected read-only access preserved, preserved form values, and zero saved connections after cancel. Credentials were synthetic; no Google grant was made. - Current-head CI and Greptile review remain pending. Previous-head results are not treated as current. ## Risks Ship the companion broker before app instances send narrowed requests. Enable the intended Workspace client/profile separately on the target broker. This pull request does not deploy a tenant app, start a fleet rollout, alter Google Console, or upgrade the pinned reviewer stack. The three-group picker is not proof of live provider access. Before production, verify a real selected-service grant, reconnect, refresh, allowed reads/writes, and denied unselected actions on the isolated staging reviewer app. Google verification and preview enrollment remain separate requirements. Legacy service profiles stay compatible. New grant metadata keeps provider scope evidence separate from requested scope evidence. Missing or unsupported evidence fails closed. No scope union across user or organization grants is allowed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent, with repository editing, code execution, and browser tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal issue ID - [ ] I have run all final-head tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(heartbeat): preserve active retries when comments arrive (#16855)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their work. > - Heartbeat retries preserve task ownership after a recoverable failure. > - The issue read model includes retries that are scheduled, queued, or running. > - The human comment route treated every retry in that model as parked work. > - A normal status comment could therefore cancel a running continuation and return its task to Todo. > - This pull request limits comment supersession to parked retries and checks that state at the cancellation fence. > - The agent can keep working when a person adds context. Explicit Stop and Interrupt remain available. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A Board comment on an in-progress task cancelled its running recovery continuation. The handler read a live retry from `getCurrentScheduledRetry` but did not check its status. The cancellation also forced workspace recovery when copy-back did not complete. **Expected behavior** A comment must preserve queued and running execution. Only a retry that is still `scheduled_retry` may be superseded. If promotion wins the race, the comment must keep the task in progress and follow the normal wake path. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Let a task retry advance from `scheduled_retry` to `running`. 2. Keep its retry reason and source run identity in the stored row. 3. Post a normal human comment, without an Interrupt request. 4. Observe the old handler cancel the run and move the task to Todo. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on master base `9966f31bee`. The staging incident served `f3cd3f4ea89539b68410841d39ec15a5c626007f`. **Deployment mode** Staging server with a remote runner. The defect is in the core comment and cancellation path. Refs #16835 and #16843. Those repairs cover runner health and workspace preservation. This change prevents a normal comment from requesting the wrong cancellation. Related #9732 promotes human wakes on parked retries; it does not protect a retry that is already running. ## What Changed - Check the live retry status in both comment routes: POST comments and PATCH issue with a comment. - Add an optional expected-status fence to cancellation. A concurrent promotion or terminal outcome returns a no-op result. - Make due-retry promotion honor a cancellation claim under its issue and run row locks. A scheduler cannot promote work after cancellation has won. - Finish persisted cancellations of parked retries through the existing startup and periodic recovery sweep. Preserve their original request and retry a failed settlement without starting provider work. - Keep the task active when guarded cancellation does not win. Do not record a cancellation that did not occur. - Add route regressions, real PostgreSQL race tests, and pending-retry and explicit Stop safety coverage. - Exercise both normal HTTP comment routes with real services, stored Board membership, PostgreSQL, and a live child process. Assert that the process can still perform work, the task keeps its original execution, and no second executor starts. - Document the comment supersession contract and update the task feature/access maps with the local regression coverage and deployed acceptance recipe. ## Verification - Before the fix, all four POST/PATCH regressions cancelled queued or running work. - Before the fix, the real PostgreSQL race test cancelled a retry that became running after lookup. - The comment-route suite passes **103 tests**. The final dispatch, cancellation, restart recovery and HTTP/live-process suites pass **119 tests**, for **222 affected tests** across these runs. They cover comment delivery, both sides of the promotion race, concurrent terminal outcomes, pending retries, explicit Stop, and a live process that can continue work. - Command: `node node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts server/src/services/heartbeat/run-control.test.ts`. - The normal HTTP/live-process acceptance suite passes all **14 tests**, including both comment endpoints with stored Board membership and deterministic wakeup teardown. - Review exposed a second race after the cancellation claim. Its new PostgreSQL test failed before the dispatch guard with `promoted` and passes afterward with `not_promoted`, followed by completed cancellation. - A real PostgreSQL constraint interrupts the terminal cancellation write after its intent commits. The assembled recovery service failed to settle that row before the repair. Afterward a fresh service settles it, clears its task lock, cancels its saved wake, preserves the original request and leaves unrelated parked retries alone. A repeated database failure preserves the intent for a later successful sweep; a second successful sweep adds no duplicate event. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. Server typecheck and build pass again after the final server-only review fix. A local full-suite attempt started on `f8773bf` did not return an overall result; its log is preserved and no local full-suite pass is claimed. The new recovery change passes the focused suites and fresh server typecheck/build. Latest-head CI on `8f928adee67c089e1ac405d2ad3b169eedb8da27` is green: the full PR workflow and commitperclip review passed; only the two optional Storybook jobs skipped. - Greptile reviewed final head `8f928adee67c089e1ac405d2ad3b169eedb8da27` at **5/5**, with no unresolved findings. All actual latest-head CI checks passed; the two optional Storybook jobs skipped. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passes after the map updates (34 areas, 172 capability IDs); it checks structure only. - Fixed-revision staging acceptance is pending deployment. The original workspace remains held and its latest source checkpoint is backed up and verified. ## Risks - A promoted retry must keep its execution and ownership when a comment arrives. The database status predicate and route no-op handling enforce this at the race boundary. - A cancellation intent must prevent promotion without leaving work parked forever after a restart. The recovery sweep consumes at most 20 such intents per pass through guarded cancellation, and a failed settlement keeps its intent for retry. - A parked retry must still accept fresh instructions. Its existing cancellation and wake behavior remains covered. - Ordinary Stop and Interrupt calls omit the expected-status option. Their cancellation authority is unchanged and remains covered by the run-control suite. - No schema migration or API request contract changes are required. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` in Codex, with extra-high reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The session does not expose its context-window limit. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Remove the Pipelines experiment and preserve its data (#16834)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Pipelines was an unused experiment with its own UI, API, CLI, and automation. > - Keeping it leaves unsupported product surfaces and extra task-detail queries. > - Removing the experiment must preserve data that users already saved. > - This pull request removes the feature and keeps its database schema and migration history. > - Cases and Routines remain available as separate features. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Remove the unused Pipelines experiment across the application. **Current behavior** The experiment includes pipeline boards, stage settings, case automation, review queues, learnings, permissions, and CLI commands. Task detail also queries pipeline links. **Proposed behavior** Remove all these product surfaces and their implementation. Preserve existing tables, records, and documents. Ignore the retired boolean in older managed configurations so upgrades still start. **Breaking changes** Pipeline URLs, API endpoints, CLI commands, and `pipelines:write` are removed. Task detail no longer includes the old `linkedCases` field. The independent Cases API remains available. No database migration or cleanup is included. This removal supersedes the feature; it does not implement those pending enhancements or delete their saved data. ## What Changed - Remove Pipeline UI pages, navigation, gates, clients, query keys, helpers, and unused design tokens. - Remove Pipeline REST routes, services, automation dispatch, task-detail queries, and OpenAPI discovery. - Remove the CLI commands, shared contracts, experimental flag, catalog entry, and permission defaults. - Remove feature-specific tests, tutorials, smoke scripts, maps, and Storybook examples. - Preserve database schema, migration history, and the reserved document key used by old records. - Keep Cases routes independent and cover obsolete stored and managed settings. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm build` and `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed: targeted settings, managed configuration, sidebar, settings UI, routing, and feature-catalog tests. A first sidebar run caught a shared Workspaces icon import; the import was restored and the sidebar rerun passed. - Passed: 40 tests covering Cases routes, OpenAPI discovery, retained Pipeline table constraints, and schema snapshot drift. - Passed: token gates, map validation, generated API metadata check, Storybook catalog validation, and 28 map/catalog tests. - Passed: isolated local browser verification of navigation and Experimental settings with Pipelines absent; Cases and Routines still open normally. Live GET/POST requests to retired Pipeline endpoints return 404, and the retired setting is absent. CLI help has no Pipeline commands. - Passed: 22 access-service and agent-default-grant tests after restoring unrelated permission assertions flagged in review. - Local full run: `pnpm test:run` reported one failure in the unchanged workspace-runtime port-allocation test. That test passed in an isolated rerun. The long local run was stopped after full CI passed; it is not reported as a complete local pass. - Passed: all 56 checks on `def9181f3a4491d95fca1d38e9739f5b821aae3e` (2 conditional checks skipped), including build, typecheck, test shards, and browser suites. Eleven interrupted CI jobs reported “The operation was canceled”; their one-time retry passed. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39255211006). - Greptile: 5/5 on the final commit, with the only review finding fixed and resolved. - Sandbox socket restrictions affected the first build/API test attempts. The same commands ran with local sockets available. ## Risks - Existing Pipeline clients must stop using the removed endpoints and commands. - Existing data remains in the database and backups, but the removed UI no longer displays it. - Historical boolean `enablePipelines` values are ignored. They cannot restore the feature. - Cases and Routines must retain their separate behavior. Targeted route tests cover this boundary. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with repository inspection, editing, shell execution, and browser verification. The exact deployed model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session.

Harden Board CLI approval and native verification fixtures (#16482)
Preserve governed Board CLI authority and strict verification fixtures on the Muse stack.
Keep approval/cancel ownership, current membership/key authority and durable first-change audit atomic. Bound Retry-After scheduling within the original challenge; never automatically resubmit consent. Retain descriptor ownership until identity-based cleanup and close it on success and error. Keep strict Git-origin and synchronized provider-entry fixture assertions.
Related public work: LukeAbell's existing PR #13919 proposes the same production descriptor-lifetime fix. This independently measured local integration retains the original tests and adds real-descriptor coverage. Do not treat this local integration as ownership of that contribution.

fix(runtime): continue from saved sources after workspace loss (#16690)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The runtime must preserve saved work and prevent duplicate execution. > - Older cleanup could destroy a sandbox before its workspace export finished. > - The existing recovery controls require either the original sandbox or recovered original files. > - Surviving attachments can support a rebuild, but they do not prove that missing edits were recovered. > - This pull request adds an explicit reconstruction decision and one fresh continuation through the normal execution gates. > - Operators can continue useful work while the original failed run remains truthful. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A historical failed export can have an accepted result, a prepared workspace descriptor, and a confirmed destroyed sandbox. Its notice can also say `new_source_execution_path` and disappear. The task then has neither a truthful original-file repair path nor a supported reconstruction path. **Expected behavior** Keep the missing-file obligation visible. Let an authorized operator choose surviving task attachments and record lost work and external action outcomes. Start one fresh continuation after current execution checks. Keep the old result and failed export intact. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Seed a failed native export with a prepared descriptor and an exact destroyed-lease receipt. 2. Resolve its notice with the historical `new_source_execution_path` bookkeeping value. 3. Read the task. The baseline hides the hold even though no source reconciliation exists. 4. With this change, choose **Continue from saved sources** and submit a reconstruction decision. Related public work: #16451 preserves healthy warm sessions. #16583 prevents destructive cleanup of unexported work. This change handles historical source loss that those fixes cannot undo. Searches of open and closed work found no equivalent reconstruction endpoint. ## What Changed - Add a board-only reconstruction endpoint with `runtime:manage` and task visibility checks. - Validate the exact run, result, descriptor and destroyed lease. Reject active copyback, competing owners, newer work, stale task status, and foreign attachments. - Record attachment hashes, missing work, and external action outcomes. Preserve the original failed run, accepted result, prepared descriptor and terminal failure. - Hold other continuation paths until the durable reconstruction intent admits its successor. Record that successor in the same transaction and preserve the retry count. - Add an operator control that distinguishes reconstruction from original-file recovery. Update the recovery runbook and capability maps. ## Verification - Exact baseline source returns no blocker for the destroyed-source fixture. The same fixture returns a required recovery hold with this change. - New real PostgreSQL and assembled API/heartbeat suite: 25/25 pass. It covers duplicate submissions, lost acknowledgement, context reset, source identity, task ownership, concurrent execution attachment scope, later human blocks, deleted sources and agent pause. - Existing export retry, explicit continuation and recovery-action suites: 386 cases pass. One new-fixture constraint error in the combined run was corrected; the full new suite then passed. - UI recovery suites: 46/46 pass across three files. They cover disabled actions, loss acknowledgement, failure retention and runtime authority. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The first sandboxed typecheck attempt could not open the TypeScript IPC socket; the authorized rerun passed. - Module boundaries, map checks, token gates and diff whitespace checks pass. - OpenAPI route coverage: 21/21 pass. The first CI head exposed a missing endpoint registration; this head adds the registration and the focused suite passes. - Review identified a missing dispatch-time check and an isolated attachment cache. Both are fixed. Claim and final handoff recheck the exact successor, sources and current execution gates. A controlled post-claim operator block prevents the assembled heartbeat from entering the provider. The shared attachment cache refreshes uploads and removes deleted selections. - Final focused run: 180/180 pass across six suites, including reconstruction, existing dispatch/stale-queue contracts and UI recovery. - A second review reproduced cancellation by an already satisfied historical connection card while the task was `todo`. Read-only connection availability now works before checkout; active-task mutation checks remain strict. The baseline failed two cases; after the fix all 74 connection and reconstruction tests pass, including revoked access, pending questions and pending approvals. - All current-head CI gates pass on `9d197236da11fa24f1ceadf5589cb2b81179d824`, including general/serialized tests, Runner, build and browser gates. Greptile is 5/5 for that exact head with no unresolved threads. The full local `pnpm test:run` is still running its serial server group; no full local pass is claimed. Live staging recovery is pending deployment. ## Risks - Reconstruction cannot restore missing bytes. The operator must identify surviving sources and actions that must not be repeated. The agent must verify those attachments before rebuilding. - This path is limited to exact, confirmed destroyed remote sources with an accepted result. Retained or uncertain sources keep their existing repair path. - No schema migration, credential change, budget increase or warm-session policy change is included. Normal pause, ownership, budget, approval and dispatch gates still apply. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use and code execution. The session does not expose an exact backend model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; full local run limitation recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Connect personal Muse through secure native execution and Vault OAuth (#16448)
Add company-scoped Muse native control, OAuth, wake receiver and recovery. Recheck current authority after waits and before effects or receipt replay. Preserve task-read scope, assignment expiry, independent holds, nonblocking reassignment and truthful cleanup provenance. Retain source trust on progress comments and verify current Muse V8 authority through real signed-JWT HTTP requests. Preserve the upstream trimmed ordinary authentication lookup. Refs #16448. Preserve captured canonical queue recovery and concurrent environment preparation while retaining the scoped Muse V8 exclusion. Normal migration 0354 and existing Muse SQL remain unchanged. Fresh current-head Greptile review is 5/5 with the project-write finding addressed. Required CI and independent technical review gate the merge; maintainer override is reserved for formal approval rules. Recheck current Muse project-write authority after all receipt/task/run/admission waits, before creation or replay. Real PostgreSQL regressions reproduce four late effects/replays on the old route; the repaired three-file treatment passes 354 cases with no skips, and the scoped server typecheck passes. Ordinary/Dot behavior is preserved. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(adapter-utils): allow sandbox agents to read run diagnostics (#16575)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its execution history. > - Sandbox agents use a callback bridge to reach the control plane. > - The API already provides authorized run diagnostics. > - The bridge denied those read routes before the API could check access. > - Health scans could see task activity but could not inspect failed runs. > - This pull request admits exact GET routes on both bridge transports. > - Linked task results also apply the caller's task-read filter. > - Agents can inspect failures through their existing run identity. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A sandbox health scan received `403 Route not allowed` for run history, run details, events, and task recovery records. The same agent could read task activity and connected provider state. The bridge stopped these diagnostic requests before they reached the API. **Expected behavior** The bridge should admit the existing diagnostic GET routes. The API must still enforce company and task access and redact run content. Execution and recovery writes must stay denied by these rules. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start an agent in a sandbox with the normal callback bridge. 2. Use its injected API credential to request company run history. 3. Request a run's details or events. 4. Observe the bridge's route denial before the API handles the request. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced with the callback route list on master at `9f4a956b906`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server with a managed sandbox. Both queue and HTTP/2 transports use this route list. Related work: Refs #15854 adds separate cost-read routes to this list. It does not add run diagnostics. Searches found no duplicate run-diagnostic change. ## What Changed - Admit nine existing diagnostic GET paths: company history and live runs; run details, events, logs, workspace operations and task links; task runs and recovery records. - Reject other methods, extra path segments, execution control, recovery resolution, and provider-trace administration. - Filter linked tasks by the caller's task-read predicate in both activity and original-task queries. Keep those results in the run's company. A readable run must not expose private task titles. - Test both route lists and the HTTP/2 request path. Preserve query parameters and controller denial responses. Add a database regression with public and private tasks linked to a readable company run. - Document bounded diagnostic reads, private-run stubs, access checks, and credential handling in the agent API reference. Update both affected run access maps with the sandbox entry points and verification limits. ## Verification - Passed both bridge suites: 139 tests. - Passed the server run-route, activity-route, and secret-redaction suites: 117 tests, including the new task-link filter test. The cold route-import test needed a 30-second timeout on this host. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, the adapter-utils typecheck, both generated capability checks, and `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`. - Attempted `pnpm test:run`. The bundled PostgreSQL binary cannot start on this host. The native session suite reported 15 database startup failures; the privacy suite skipped its 15 cases. Stopped that full local attempt after those failures. No full local-suite pass is claimed. The final 16-case privacy suite also skipped locally for the same host limitation; Linux CI ran all 16 cases successfully. - One unchanged queue-response test hit a file-read race during the combined local run. A separate rerun of both complete bridge suites passed all 139 cases. The transient race was not independently isolated; the original failure is retained in this record. - All CI gates pass on head `97c65cec459d3fc2787083d05ae6ec51e3fd7b70`. Linux CI passed all 16 database-backed run privacy cases, including the new public/private task-link regression. These also cover private-run denial, authorized owner/reviewer reads, redacted list stubs, credential diagnostics, and deleted-task handling: [serialized shard 1](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38925932547/job/117057907621). - Apex reviewed the final head at 5/5. Both findings are addressed and their review threads are resolved. - After deployment, run a new sandbox audit. Confirm it can list and inspect authorized failed runs without a board credential. This has not been deployed or live-tested by this PR. ## Risks - Sandbox agents can reach more diagnostic GET routes. The existing server access checks and redaction still apply. - Linked task results now omit tasks that the caller cannot read. Authorized task links remain visible. - This change does not grant execution control or recover a failed workspace. - Existing bridge sessions may need a new run to load the updated route list. - No schema, credential, UI, workflow, or lockfile change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with implementation and verification. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: code editing, shell execution, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): support preconfigured user homes for Codex and ACPX (#16486)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Runner launches the selected provider and keeps durable session state. > - Runner currently prepares private provider homes for each session. > - Operators can already have working login, skills, and MCP configuration on the execution machine. > - This PR adds an explicit mode that uses that existing setup. > - Runner keeps its task bridge and session ownership while leaving the user's configuration in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation:** Rebuilding a provider home is unnecessary when the execution account is already configured. **Proposed solution:** Add `homeMode: "preconfigured"` to Runner adapter config and runnerd transport options. Keep `"isolated"` as the default. Initially support native Codex and ACPX Claude. **Alternatives considered:** Continue copying user configuration into a private home, or add an approval workflow. Both add work outside this feature's scope. **Roadmap alignment:** This extends the existing cross-provider Runner. It does not add another runtime. Related work: #14056 covers managed Codex credentials. #14474 covers command environment delivery. This mode uses user-owned credentials and retains the existing launch boundaries. ## What Changed - Add a closed v7 launch contract for the selected home mode. Existing contracts retain their behavior. - Keep homeMode under operator control. Reject task overrides and agent-authenticated changes, including removal through replacements, adapter changes, or rollback. Ignore stored task values and exclude it from automatic hire inheritance. - Skip managed AI login, assigned-skill materialization, and external MCP setup in preconfigured mode. Preserve the Runner task/completion bridge. - Keep protocol state and provider lifetime fences scoped to the Runner session. Different sessions can share a home. - Fail preconfigured ACPX planning/read-only launches before provider admission until a read-only user-home launch is qualified. Use isolated mode or native Codex for planning. - Reject ACPX approval requests. Keep native Codex on `never`. Local permission rules and hooks remain effective. Initially require the default Runner ACPX `approve-all` setting; other Runner policies are unqualified in this mode and fail before launch. - Keep the internal ACPX bridge in a stable session namespace, preserving an existing user MCP server named `paperclip`. - Reject preconfigured ACPX Codex before launch until a session permission profile can enforce Runner-state denial. Remove the unprotected full-access mode switch; use native Codex or isolated mode for that model family. - Bump Pi to profile 23 because its attestation covers shared Runner source changed here. Preserve profile 22 for historical recovery, and update Docker/package verification inputs. - Fence recovery on mode and home bindings. Fail missing provider-history recovery without starting a replacement session. Exclude the external Codex home from backups and credential cleanup. - Discover remote HOME on the execution machine. Do not project controller HOME or XDG paths onto it. - Separate task instructions from Codex ACP isolation and update the generated provider digest. - Keep remote configured-environment manifests consistent when dropping controller paths. Preserve exact Claude model IDs through per-launch environment settings, without editing the user home or patching the provider. ## Verification - Targeted local checks cover native contracts and launch allowlists, user-config preservation, provider admission, permissions, session recovery, remote environment projection, heartbeat preparation, and operator-only configuration. Runner, shared, and server TypeScript checks and the Rust binary build pass; generated ACPX profiles are current. - Following the latest master integration, all 757 server configuration/executor tests and 115 Runner admission/recovery tests passed. Additional review-fix checks passed: 103 planning contract/host tests, 78 provider-backend tests, 95 route/preparation/inheritance tests, 43 task-validator tests, and 43 workspace-policy tests. Counts describe separate runs and can overlap. - The real pinned Claude ACP/SDK regression reproduces exact-model aliasing without the fix (`claude-sonnet-5-5` becomes `sonnet`) and passes with the fix. All 89 adapter tests pass. User settings remain byte-for-byte unchanged. - Localhost-only Claude SDK probes with synthetic credentials verify the private bridge runs, local `ask` reaches the existing reject callback, local `deny` blocks without a callback, and a user MCP server named `paperclip` remains available. No user model allowlist is required. - Review regressions cover fail-closed provider admission, saved-mode recovery before routing, controller-home path removal without configured-environment manifest drift, pre-launch rejection of unqualified read-only ACPX launches, and denial of task/agent changes to the operator-owned home mode. - Before rebase, `d4d4ee2aebe4cb88c4f4d9ef8e22fed4b36b87be` received standard Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Prior Apex findings are fixed and covered by regressions. No manual Greptile retrigger is requested for this rebase, per reviewer direction. - The prior PR head and master hit the same GitHub runner encoding crash in workspace-b on three PR attempts, including diagnostic logging ([prior PR CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38818474563/job/116714538405), [prior master CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38819528748/job/116712423193)). Rebased onto `origin/master` at `c3ffa3f0dd` to pull in its bridge-test index correction. The rebased head `edd153db410bea063b645e0000aa68649f287b00` passes all CI checks ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38824676914)), including workspace-b. Greptile's automatic standard review is 5/5 on this exact head, with no unresolved threads; no manual review was requested. - Local workspace-b investigation passed 911 shared tests and 3,868 tests across the remaining 15 workspace projects. The catalog run separately hit an existing ignored `.agents/skills/design-guide/SKILL.md` description-budget violation in this checkout; that file is untracked, outside the PR, and left untouched. Repeating shared tests with CI reporting enabled also passed. - Rebase verification: the final Git tree exactly matches the previously reviewed branch combined with current master. All 192 Runner admission/contract tests, 61 server preparation/provider tests, and 68 bridge tests pass, as do Runner/server TypeScript and generated-profile checks. The real Claude adapter fixture hit an `ENOTEMPTY` cleanup race on its initial run; all 89 adapter tests passed on retry. - Apex on rebased head `edd153db` returned 2/5: ACPX Codex selected full access without enforcing Runner-state denial, and agent configuration replacement could remove the operator mode. Both are fixed in `26e14dbbf`. Preconfigured ACPX Codex is temporarily unqualified; re-enabling it requires session permission enforcement on thread/turn operations and a real filesystem-denial probe. The config guard covers effective replacements, adapter changes, and rollback while allowing ordinary agent merges and operator removal. All 190 focused Runner tests, 103 server tests, both typechecks, and generated-profile checks pass. Standard review and CI passed before the next Apex request. - CI on `26e14dbbf` passed 1,967 Runner-shard tests but hit the previously observed `ENOTEMPTY` fixture cleanup race after successful Claude model admission. `eb83284fb` adds bounded filesystem retries to that fixture's teardown; all 87 adapter tests pass. Assertions and production cleanup behavior are unchanged. Head `eb83284fb42ee19a15d9a93b106c1bbb07e1695e` passes all 59 CI checks ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38829500857)) and standard Greptile at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Apex also completed at **5/5** on that exact head ([Apex result](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16486#issuecomment-6201559527)). All review threads are resolved, the branch has no merge conflicts, and the PR remains unmerged. - No live paid-provider or remote-machine smoke was performed. The lockfile remains unchanged under the repository's refresh-bot policy; local dependency installation resolved the changed patch hash. ## Risks This explicit opt-in grants Codex tools access to the execution home (read-only in planning), including credentials. Native Codex separately denies Runner-owned protocol state. ACPX Claude retains its existing provider trust boundary, and the isolated default is unchanged. Providers may refresh credentials and update their own metadata. User configuration can block tools or the completion reporter. Existing blocked results and failure diagnostics remain the recovery path. Edit the local settings and retry; no new approval workflow is added. External provider history remains on the execution machine and is not backed up by Runner. Remote HOME discovery requires `getent` and fails explicitly when unavailable. Other harnesses need separate qualification. The Codex ACP bundle digest changes. Existing sessions tied to the old bundle may need a fresh session. No database migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning and code execution. The exact runtime model ID was not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the feature issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run targeted tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add generic Daytona API and Toolbox access (#16483)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps connections give agents controlled access to external services. > - Daytona provides sandbox, file, command, Git, and account APIs. > - Operators need to assign this access without exposing a server credential. > - A small task-specific tool list cannot serve general Daytona work. > - This pull request adds the published HTTP actions through the existing connection gateway. > - Operators keep control of identity, agent access, and each action. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Paperclip has a Daytona sandbox provider for its own execution infrastructure. It lacks a normal Apps connection for agents to manage an operator's Daytona account. Reusing the server's provider credential would bypass normal connection ownership and action permissions. **Proposed solution** Add a Daytona connection with personal or shared vault credentials. Generate its action catalog from the official platform and Toolbox API specifications. Use the existing run-bound gateway, grants, action policies, approvals, revocation, and audit paths. Sandbox IDs come from Daytona; tools need no Paperclip task or lease ID. **Alternatives considered** A four-action diagnostic subset cannot support general provider work. Launching the provider CLI would expose host filesystem behavior. Native OAuth is not included because a supported third-party registration path was not verified. The native method uses an organization API key. Existing Composio setup is a separate possible OAuth route and is not qualified by this change. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing Apps and Connections provider coverage in `ROADMAP.md`. It uses that system's credential and permission model. GitHub searches found no existing Daytona Apps connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Daytona catalog entry, provider source override, official theme logos, permission review, and setup documentation. - Generate 274 HTTP actions: 169 platform and 105 Toolbox operations. Record two WebSocket upgrades separately; do not advertise them as HTTP tools. Record source URLs and hashes. - Add provider-focused execution for sandboxes, snapshots, volumes, files, Git, commands, computer use, and account resources. Provider authority still limits which endpoints accept an organization key. - Validate action arguments. Resolve Toolbox targets through the fixed platform API. Check sandbox identity and organization before using an approved Daytona proxy. Keep normal guarded network requests and vault resolution. - Transfer file bytes without reading or writing host files. Share one caller deadline across prerequisite reads, dispatch, and response reading. Bound requests and responses. Do not automatically retry writes with unknown outcomes. Redact the selected credential from results and errors. - Classify credential access, access changes, interactive input, command execution, file permissions, and deletion (including TTL and auto-delete) as destructive actions. Keep new and changed actions under catalog review. - Upgrade saved catalogs and retire the earlier diagnostic names. Hide retired actions from the UI and agent discovery even when provider refresh fails. Preserve existing action choices and historical records. Reject stale same-name contracts during agent discovery and dispatch before a board refresh. - Add database-backed gateway and catalog-upgrade regressions, schema generator tests, a browser setup check, and both capability map updates. ## Verification - Passed on the review-fix head: 57 focused Vitest cases (18 Daytona database/client cases, five HTTP boundary cases, and 34 shared catalog cases), four generator tests, `pnpm -r typecheck`, and `pnpm build`. The five HTTP cases use a real local server through the pinned production transport. The normal browser setup check and 17 generator/artwork cases passed on the initial PR head; those UI and artwork paths are unchanged. - Passed on this branch: brand asset validation, token gates, map structure checks, and `git diff --check`. All latest-head GitHub checks pass on `ea979ccb3a64dc9508807823540f935c4316ea35`. Apex is 5/5, with all five findings addressed and zero unresolved threads. The branch has no merge conflicts. - The initial catalog-generation command could not find the external research corpus. The supported `--definitions-only` mode regenerated the definitions successfully. Unrelated generated drift was excluded. - An earlier full local Vitest attempt on the preview branch failed when bundled PostgreSQL could not start on macOS. After replay onto current master, all three unchanged event-sequencing cases pass with bundled PostgreSQL; the earlier startup cause remains uncertain. - The first full-suite command on this branch used my external test database override. Chat fixtures require a current migrated schema and failed because `agents.lifecycle_state` was absent in that disposable database. A focused comparison reproduces failure with the override and passes with normal setup. That attempt was stopped, and the full suite restarted without the override. Focused Daytona cases use their own migrated PostgreSQL 16 databases. - The clean local full-suite attempt recorded embedded PostgreSQL startup failures in two unchanged native-runtime cases and two failures in unchanged Git fixtures. It was stopped after these failures were isolated; no full local suite pass is claimed. The 15 matching native-runtime cases pass separately. The Git cases fail with the local `init.defaultBranch=main` setting and pass with `GIT_CONFIG_COUNT=1 GIT_CONFIG_KEY_0=init.defaultBranch GIT_CONFIG_VALUE_0=master` limited to the test command. No global Git setting was changed. Full Linux CI is green. - Fixtures use real database persistence and run-bound gateway sessions with provider responses replaced by fixtures. They cover personal/shared vault ownership, reads and writes, file bytes, Off policies, revocation, organization mismatch, untrusted proxy rejection, output bounds, saved catalog upgrades, failed refresh, and permission preservation. - The first Apex review found five valid issues: multipart transport compatibility, destructive classification, caller deadlines, audit filters, and stale saved contracts. All five were fixed with regressions before the second review. A typecheck then found the nullable saved schema hash; admission now accepts that stored type and rejects null as stale. - The browser check covers setup controls without submitting a provider key. No real Daytona account, provider write, native OAuth flow, or agent model run is qualified. Live provider read/write proof remains pending a test account. ## Risks - Daytona keys have broad Toolbox authority, including keys with no selected resource scopes. Only assign this connection to trusted agents and review its action permissions. - Remote writes or commands can continue after a timeout. Calls do not automatically retry an uncertain outcome. - The bridge targets Daytona Cloud. Proxy hosts are restricted; an unrecognized future regional host fails closed. - Files and responses have an 8 MiB bound. Each action has one caller deadline, capped at 30 seconds across all provider requests and response reading. Interactive WebSocket sessions are not exposed as HTTP actions. - The generated JSON snapshot exceeds 1,000 lines because it holds the provider input contracts. Generator logic and execution code remain in separate small modules. Updates require explicit regeneration and catalog review. - No database migration or lockfile change is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The runtime identifies the model family but does not expose the exact backend model ID or context window. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, database verification, and browser tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(issues): keep workspace restoration failures retryable (#16489)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and its saved files. > - Finished Git workspaces can expire and restore from a saved commit. > - A task comment must restore a closed workspace before the comment is saved. > - Failed restoration returned HTTP 503 and hid the restoration message. > - The composer treats 5xx writes as uncertain, so it blocked the draft instead of offering a clear retry. > - This change returns a definite rejection before the write and preserves the restoration message. > - Users can restore repository access and retry the same draft. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16457 and #16476. Live acceptance found this gap with a disposable expired workspace and an unavailable upstream. The saved commit and unique-file control stayed intact. No fallback workspace or comment was created. The UI still showed an uncertain comment result because the route returned 503. ## What Changed - Return HTTP 409 for a rejected workspace rebuild before the consuming write. - Preserve the service's safe restoration message in the response. - Cover rejected comment, comment-update, and checkout paths. - Document the response and draft retry behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-closed-workspace-routes.test.ts ui/src/api/issues.test.ts`: 38 passed in 26.80s. - Route tests assert that failed restoration does not save a comment or update the task. - Existing client controls preserve 409 rejections and still treat network failures and 5xx writes as uncertain. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. Full PR CI passed on attempt 2: [run 38804449401](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38804449401). The first attempt timed out in the unrelated fresh personal-AI connection browser case while waiting for its first reply. Logs and browser evidence were inspected and retained; only failed jobs were rerun once, and that shard passed. - Retained live fixture will verify the error, retry, exact saved commit, and subsequent persisted work after deployment. ## Risks Clients now receive 409 instead of 503 for this known pre-write rejection. They must retry after repository access is restored. The route uses the service's fixed messages, not raw Git errors. This change does not alter restoration, authorization, cleanup, or genuine uncertain-write handling. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with code execution and browser tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(recovery): preserve deliberate stops and dependency waits
Preserve deliberate assignee blocks and operator stops during dependency and run-release recovery. Attribute native waits to their bound owner. Ignore unrelated edits and shared-workspace exports from another issue. Continue after genuine dependency changes while preserving independently authorized user input. Keep the original contributor's implementation and review history. Add native ownership, unrelated-edit, later readiness, and shared-workspace regressions. The shared-workspace loop was reproduced before the fix. Co-Authored-By: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(server): reuse route modules across test cases (#16396)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip uses server routes to manage agents and their work. > - Route tests check permissions, login sessions, skills, and file downloads. > - Four suites reload large module graphs before every test. > - Their workers exhaust the heap and block dependency updates. > - This pull request loads each route graph once per suite. > - Each test still gets a fresh app and resets its fixture state. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16017. Related: #12987 addresses repeated logger transports through a different production change. **What happened?** CI run 38293835699, attempt 2, aborted four server test workers. The affected suites cover attachments, device login, agent skills, and setup tokens. Three failed log tails show heap exhaustion. The separate `db.transaction` warning came from the document-annotation suite, which passed. **Expected behavior** All route cases complete within the worker heap limit and keep independent test state. **Steps to reproduce** Run the unchanged agent-skills suite from master with `NODE_OPTIONS=--max-old-space-size=1536` and `--logHeapUsage`. The worker aborted after 66 of 90 cases, at a reported heap of 1,532 MB. **Paperclip version** The fix is based on master commit `444d5854b0f53b19d138f060a267cfd10171c7b3`. The original dependency PR head is `7b74c3f248731943154547385b1de5eb6562bf01`. **Deployment mode** Local tests and CI. ## What Changed - Move module resets and mock registration from `beforeEach` to `beforeAll` in four route suites. - Load the agent-skills route modules during suite setup. - Keep each test's app, fixture resets, and login cleanup. - Remove two comments that describe the old reset behavior. ## Verification All 193 tests in the four affected suites pass with a 1.5 GiB heap limit: ```sh NODE_OPTIONS=--max-old-space-size=1536 pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server \ server/src/__tests__/agent-skills-routes.test.ts \ server/src/__tests__/agent-device-login-routes.test.ts \ server/src/__tests__/issue-attachment-routes.test.ts \ server/src/routes/setup-token-route.test.ts --reporter=verbose --logHeapUsage ``` - Local runtime: Node 25.9.0, Vitest 5.0.4, Supertest 7.3.1, Express 5.2.1. - Master has an existing manifest/lockfile mismatch. Local installation used `--no-lockfile`. Express was restored to its locked version in an untracked test dependency directory. The tracked lockfile is unchanged. - The agent-skills suite stays below 400 MB of reported heap after the fix. - `git diff --check` passes. - Repository typecheck reaches the Runner Rust check and stops because this environment has no `cargo`. - The repository build and normal server typecheck also stop at the missing Rust toolchain. A direct server `tsc --noEmit` attempt ends with SIGKILL. - [CI run 38686964537](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38686964537) passes on `c744774bbada4e35ce3acf5991ff19cf50405f2f`, including all general and serialized server shards, typecheck, build, Runner checks, and e2e. - GitHub reports 53 successful check runs, two skipped Storybook checks, and a successful Snyk status. No checks are pending or failing. - [Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16396#issuecomment-6185194537) gives 5/5 on the same commit, with no actionable issues and zero review threads. - The full repository test suite was verified in CI; the local container has a 4 GiB memory limit. ## Risks Module state now lasts for one suite. Each case still constructs its own router and resets its mocks and fixtures. The affected suites pass together locally, and all applicable CI gates pass on the published commit. The change contains four test files. It changes no production code, workflow, manifest, or lockfile. Merge this separate fix before asking Dependabot to rebase #16017. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): expose settled holds and their preserved decisions (#16169)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task recovery preserves work when execution or tool outcomes are uncertain. > - Automatic recovery can settle its record while keeping replay blocked. > - The recovery-actions API omitted those records unless they held workspace files. > - Operators and agent tools could therefore see an empty recovery history for a task that still had an execution hold. > - This pull request lists those holds and shows their matching decision in the existing stopped-run notice. > - Existing stop verification, continuation, and file repair gates remain in force. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A cancelled or failed task can retain a settled recovery record with `automaticRecovery.replay: blocked`. The task remains held, but the recovery-actions API returns no action. The board notice also lacks that record's decision. **Expected behavior** List settled execution holds that still block replay. Let an authorized board user inspect the current action and run in Recovery details. Preserve the existing guarded continuation and required-file repair paths. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Stop a run whose outcome requires inspection. 2. Let automatic recovery settle its record with replay blocked. 3. Read the task's recovery actions and open its stopped-run notice. 4. Before this change, the action list is empty unless workspace recovery is required. **Paperclip version or commit** This PR includes current master through `66424362a85`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated and local deployments with persisted execution recovery holds. The original API correction and route regression are by Tao Xie (@TaoXieSZ). This update preserves those commits and adds the board inspection path, current documentation, and regression coverage. Related: #14840 describes controller lease loss. This change exposes recovery records; it does not change controller lease renewal. ## What Changed - Include settled execution reconciliation holds with replay blocked in the company-scoped recovery-actions response. - Read the matching action from the existing stopped-run notice. Show its decision under Recovery details, including when active recovery is empty. - Reject mismatched historical records in the notice. Bind history to the current action/run and refresh visible decisions every five seconds. Keep history read errors visible beside the current guidance. - Preserve existing run inspection, new-message continuation, and required-file repair controls. No new reconciliation form is added. - Update the execution documentation and both recovery capability maps. ## Verification - Recovery route suite with real embedded PostgreSQL: 80 passed, none skipped. - Notice and retry-client suites: 36 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed. This checks structure only. - `git diff --check`: passed. - Full `pnpm test:run` was started. It is not yet a full local pass. Initial database tests were affected by missing packaged macOS library aliases; the aliases were restored in this worktree's dependencies, and the complete recovery route suite then passed. - All CI checks passed on `09e4461e4d3a0960a4dc8bc270a2a10c628bf524`, including the full test matrix, typecheck, build and browser checks. Optional Storybook jobs were skipped. - Apex: 5/5 on the same head. Both review threads are resolved; the reviewer confirmed the existing guarded continuation design. ## Risks - The API response now includes settled records that still block replay. Consumers must distinguish a settled record from permission to continue. - Recovery history is supplemental. A failed history read keeps the current blocker and guidance visible. - The UI binds the decision to both the current action and run. It does not certify tool outcomes or grant execution authority. - No schema, dependency, telemetry, or runtime admission changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution, assisted with the board inspection and verification follow-up. The exact serving snapshot ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. The original API work is retained from Tao Xie's contribution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full-suite limits above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): support issue monitor deadlines in idle sleep reports (#16325)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for companies and AI agents. > - Hosted workspaces can sleep when their required work has a safe wake path. > - The current idle check treats every open issue as background work. > - Backlog, unassigned and human-waiting records can therefore keep an idle process running. > - Future automated monitors still need their saved check time and execution claims. > - This PR adds a signed host capability for passive issues and verified monitor deadlines. > - The host can save one alarm for the earliest required routine or monitor time. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A quiet workspace with a backlog or unassigned todo issue reports background work as present. A future issue monitor also prevents sleep even when the host can save a durable wake alarm. **Expected behavior** Proven passive records can sleep. A validated future monitor can sleep only after the host saves its alarm and validates the same owned report. Active, unknown and unresolved work stays awake. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a quiet workspace with an unassigned todo issue and no other work. 2. Acquire a bounded, signed Cloud idle hold. 3. Request the routine-only safety report with `scheduledWake=1`. The issue blocks sleep. 4. Request the new capability with `scheduledWake=2`. A passive issue can now report no work. 5. Add a valid future monitor to an assigned in-progress issue. The second capability returns its saved deadline for host acknowledgement. **Paperclip version or commit** Base: `c30fb7d2b75ea30f72d63656b2a7cfff7fe0929d`. **Deployment mode** Cloud-managed authenticated instance. Local scheduling remains in the existing scheduler. Related protocol: [#16215](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16215). Open scheduler and monitor PRs were checked for overlap. This change leaves monitor admission, dispatch and quota recovery with their existing owners. The roadmap already includes scheduled work; this is a focused idle-safety extension. ## What Changed - Add signed scheduling capability `2`; capability `1` retains the routine-only rules. - Allow untouched onboarding prompts with idle assignees to sleep using the same awaiting-user predicate as recovery; typing, answering the opening card or a prior run removes the exemption. - Inspect passive issue state and future monitors in the same bounded, read-only snapshot as other work. - Check ownership, company scope, known states, claims, policy/deadline agreement, attempts, timeout and dependency repair. - Combine routine and monitor deadlines into a known proof kind and catalog generation. - Preserve other sleep blockers, including task watchdogs, conversations, live runs, external credentials and recovery. - Update the protected route, OpenAPI contract, documentation and PostgreSQL regression tests. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. Final server typecheck and full build passed after the final guards. - Initial safety, scheduling, protected-route and control-authentication checks: 326 tests passed. - Final safety and heartbeat scheduling checks: 253 tests passed. Includes reporting a future deadline, restoring scheduling from PostgreSQL and one dispatch across competing schedulers. - Local general server checks: 20,260 passed; UI: 8,460 passed; CLI: 534 passed, including isolated reruns of two embedded-PostgreSQL startup failures. All remaining workspace groups and 158 serialized suites passed. The suite was completed in groups after the isolated infrastructure retries; the final onboarding change also passed the focused 674-test recovery/safety run. Earlier unchanged Git fixtures failed under Xcode's system `init.defaultBranch=main`, reproduced on the clean base and passed with a test-scoped fixture default; no source or machine configuration was changed. - Rebased issue, protected-route and scheduler checks: 115 tests passed; server typecheck passed. - The expanded change passed 674 idle-safety, scheduling and recovery regression tests, including six onboarding admission/invalidation cases. Final server typecheck and build passed. - Current-head Apex is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. All 54 current-head checks passed, with two expected skips. Four jobs were interrupted by runner shutdowns or lost communication on their first attempts; their targeted reruns passed. Live hosting qualification awaits the verified master release and matching host capability. ## Risks This intentionally covers a limited set of passive states and valid future monitors. Assigned active tasks without a proved waiting path, unknown states, claimed monitors and quota recovery still block sleep. It does not make every open issue safe to sleep. A matching host must recognize `routines_and_issue_monitors`, acknowledge the durable alarm and revalidate the exact owner, generation and deadline before stopping. The report alone grants no stop authority. Older hosts retain capability `1`. Independent database writers remain outside the admission contract. Existing scheduler claims and execution authority are unchanged. No schema migration is required. Roll back host negotiation to capability `1` to restore conservative admission, while retaining alarm delivery until outstanding alarms have been handled. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with repository editing, command execution and GitHub tools. The exact deployment ID and context-window metadata are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): clear consumed messages from the pending queue (#16317)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task conversations keep follow-up messages pending while an agent works. > - The screen combines optimistic sends, queue snapshots, and run input records. > - A late send response can restore a local queue flag after a run takes the message. > - A stale queue snapshot can then keep the same message in pending. > - This pull request matches the input record to its source queue and clears stale pending flags. > - The benefit is that consumed messages leave pending while unsent messages stay visible. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A follow-up can remain in the task composer's pending row after a run takes it as input. Local queue state can outlive the send request. The old projection cleared that state for steering, but not for ordinary run-start input. A stale queue read can also retain the consumed entry. **Expected behavior** A message that a started run takes as input appears once in history and leaves pending. Other pending messages remain available. A message assigned to a run that has not started remains pending. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Send a follow-up while a task has a live run. 2. Let a started run record that message as input before or after the send response arrives. 3. Let a queue read still include the consumed message. 4. Observe the message remain pending on the base revision. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against master at `33d24e48ad` with controlled request ordering. **Deployment mode** Source checkout. Browser verification used the production task screen with a simulated native runner and delayed API responses. It did not run a live model or change a deployed instance. Related: [PR #15030](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15030) addresses acknowledgement matching in the runner console. This change addresses the task-detail composer and does not modify that console. ## What Changed - Clear local pending flags when a started run records the comment as input. - Use live-run input IDs while the run-history query catches up. - Match stale queue entries by their primary or coalesced source wake ID, even when the snapshot targets the previous run or has no target. - Retain coalesced source queue IDs in run context and include receipt IDs in compact task run reads. - Keep unstarted run inputs and authoritative retries pending. Cover send ordering, same-run and successor delivery, queued snapshots, coalesced inputs, and retry consumption. - Add the delivery-race checks to the steering feature map. ## Verification - Before the fix, the first four request-order regressions failed with the consumed message still in pending. Coverage now includes 16 combinations of receipt source, send-response order, and stale snapshot kind. - Focused UI checks: 5 files and 233 tests passed. These cover task detail, queue projection, optimistic comments, queued-message controls, and the task-chat adapter. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - Server receipt checks: 5 files and 139 tests passed with `PAPERCLIP_TEST_POSTGRES_TEMPLATE=0`. These exercise real database reads, coalesced heartbeat input, and polling routes. The default cached-template path timed out during setup on this host; the fresh-cluster path passed without longer timeouts. - Token gates and `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Browser: sent a follow-up with a delayed response in the production task screen. The consumed message moved into history. A second unsent follow-up stayed queued. Reload preserved both states. The API and runner were simulated. - `pnpm build` passed. - The full local repository test run was started, then stopped to isolate database setup timeouts. All 55 GitHub CI checks passed on `4ec6820cf1f89880b801fd5f938d72f54591c5e2`, including the full test matrix. One serialized server shard passed on its single rerun after a 15-second route-test timeout; the same 97-test route suite also passed locally. - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5. All review threads are resolved. ## Risks - Queue display depends on matching comment IDs, source queue IDs, and a recorded start time. Rows without start evidence stay pending. Newer queues remain visible until their own input receipt arrives. - Run context gains additive receipt metadata. No schema migration is required. Dispatch order, stored queue state, company access, and steering authority stay unchanged. - Browser evidence covers controlled response ordering. It does not establish deployment or live-provider behavior. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(runs): bound history and reduce repeated context reads (#16286)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps operators manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Run history supplies recent execution records to the board and API clients. > - The list repeats eight reads of a large stored JSON context. > - A caller can also omit the limit and read the complete history. > - This pull request expands context fields once and bounds every list read. > - The benefit is lower database cost and bounded redaction work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #958. Related community reports: #13962 and #10631. This is an independent implementation. It does not use their commits or code. It covers the history bounds reported in both. Process memory monitoring from #10631 is outside this change. **What happened?** The run-history query repeatedly extracts fields from large context JSON. Requests without a limit also load every historical run before authorization and redaction. Accumulated staging query statistics showed 271 ms for summary history and another 58 ms for its redaction lookup. **What did you expect to happen?** Normal reads must use a bounded recent history. Context projection must preserve the existing values and privacy behavior with less repeated database work. **Steps to reproduce** Run the disposable benchmark below against the baseline revision. It creates 1,400 synthetic runs with 192 KiB contexts. It compares the exact service SQL and every returned column for both summary and full history. ## What Changed - Expand context fields with one lateral record projection. Preserve non-object legacy contexts and the first-class issue binding. - Enforce a 200-row default and a 1,000-row maximum in the route and service. - Apply the default in the shared UI client, including both agent detail implementations. - Preserve response arrays, authorization, result projection and secret redaction. - Fetch older linked runs by ID in both agent pages. Check company and agent scope, navigation races and visible retry errors. - Update OpenAPI, data-path documentation and capability maps. - Add real PostgreSQL and HTTP regressions plus a reproducible benchmark. ## Verification - Local benchmark: summary history 37.72 ms to 19.34 ms; full history 37.84 ms to 19.01 ms. All 200 complete positional rows match in each comparison. These are synthetic local SQL timings, excluding HTTP and redaction. - History, route, privacy and redaction suites: 160 server tests passed across six files. Twenty-two UI API, selection, run-panel and log-visibility tests passed. Both agent-page variants render an older linked run with an empty history page on desktop and mobile. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - Map validation and `git diff --check` passed. - All current-head CI and security checks passed, including the full general and serialized suites, browser shards, Runner verification and build. Greptile reviewed the exact commit at 5/5 with no remaining findings. - The full local sweep began before the final compatibility fixes. It was stopped after the final commits passed complete CI. The focused local suites listed above passed on the final code. Before interruption, the broader local sweep passed 31,743 tests across the general server, UI and several package groups, with no reported failures. The full local command is not claimed as a completed pass. ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/heartbeat/run-state.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-list.test.ts src/__tests__/agent-live-run-routes.test.ts src/__tests__/run-secret-redaction.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-privacy-routes.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/api/heartbeats.test.ts pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-run-history.ts --baseline-ref=1e731520bb ``` ## Risks - Clients that relied on an unbounded array now receive 200 rows by default. Explicit limits allow up to 1,000. This change does not add pagination. - Legacy context conversion must stay identical. Real database regressions cover null, array, scalar, nested values and native issue precedence. - No schema migration or persistent cache is introduced. Redaction and access checks remain active. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, shell tools and local code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific backend model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(skills): select and validate tracked GitHub branches (#16288)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Skills can track a branch in an authorized GitHub repository. > - Sources previously offered only a default-branch repair action. > - People need to select a listed branch or enter a branch that GitHub has not listed. > - The server must validate the selected ref with the caller's authorized connection. > - This pull request connects the approved branch picker to production APIs. > - Installed skills remain usable while the source changes its tracked ref. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Skills UI, shared API contracts, GitHub source services, and agent API discovery. **Problem or motivation** The default-branch repair action does not let people choose another branch. The settings service also validates the old ref when a caller supplies a new ref other than HEAD. A missing tracked branch can prevent connection repair even when the selected account has repository access. **Proposed solution** Load a bounded branch list with the authorized connection. Mark the default branch. Search listed branches or accept a typed ref. Validate the selected ref before saving. Keep the chosen value after a load error, invalid ref, or concurrent update. Save the selected connection and branch together during connection repair. **Alternatives considered** A default-branch button does not support a named branch. A text field alone does not help people find the repository default or available branches. **Roadmap alignment** This improves the existing Skills source manager. It does not add a new skill import system. **Additional context** Refs #16066 and #16256. This is the production implementation of the approved branch-selection Storybook journeys. ## What Changed - Add an authorized branch-list endpoint and shared response/query types. Register it in agent API discovery. - Validate the requested ref, including the returned commit SHA. Preserve source leases, revision checks, project ownership, skill identities, selections, and installed versions. - Add the searchable branch picker to Sources and connection repair. Allow typed refs during branch discovery and after discovery fails. - Keep save errors in the dialog. Retain the selected branch through a concurrent source update. - Use the production components and API client in Storybook. Add keyboard, touch, loading, retry, invalid-ref, connection-repair, and concurrent-update browser journeys. - Update product documentation and the feature/access maps. ## Verification - Red/green: two new database regressions fail against the previous service and pass against the implementation. - Linux database/service suite: 85 tests passed. This includes source visibility, human/agent authorization, selected connections, immutable versions, and invalid refs. - Rebased branch and review fixes: 94 focused UI, route, branch-validation, and fixture tests passed. Two conflict-message regressions and the stale-retry fixture regression fail before the fix and pass after it. - Storybook build passed. All 26 focused browser journeys passed. - Repository typecheck and build passed. Final UI typecheck passed after the review fixes. - The full local Vitest run was interrupted when the checkout and its dependencies disappeared. It reported missing working-directory/Postgres files and worker startup errors. Its two timed-out tests pass after the checkout was restored. The complete CI suite passed on the final head, `cf5d4c8f0a`: [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38571068332). One unchanged workspace timestamp test required a single rerun. Its release-minus-one-millisecond value can equal the original confirmation time. The rerun passed. - Live acceptance passed on implementation head `5dd935bf14` in an isolated macOS arm64 instance with Node 24.21.0 and an authorized private GitHub repository. The UI loaded the actual default branch, saved branch and selected connection together, and preserved the installed skill/version IDs after reload. An invalid typed ref retained the draft and showed the provider error. A valid typed HEAD ref then saved successfully. The owned runtime and database were stopped after the test. Focused unit, Linux database, and browser suites passed again after the error-handling review fixes. - Greptile reviewed final head `cf5d4c8f0a` at 5/5. Both review threads are resolved; the fresh review has no remaining findings. - Token gates and map/catalog checks passed. - Review entry points: `Skills / Project repository skills / 03 Branch selection components` and `04 Branch selection journeys`. Run `pnpm storybook` to inspect them. - Browser command: `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/skill-source-branch-selection.spec.ts tests/storybook-visual/project-repository-skills.spec.ts`. - Manual check: open an independent GitHub source, choose a new branch, select the default or type a ref, save, and reload. Try an invalid ref and confirm the selection remains in the dialog. For a project-bound source, change its ref in project settings. ## Risks - GitHub discovery is bounded to 100 listed branches. The default branch is always included. Typed refs remain available. - A source can change while the dialog is open. The API rejects a stale revision and the UI keeps the draft for retry. - A ref change schedules the existing refresh pipeline. Installed versions remain available until a successful refresh imports new content. - No database migration or credential storage change is required. Existing HEAD requests remain supported. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The serving model's exact identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(voice): accept authenticated Cloud callers (#16254)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work through company-scoped tasks. > - Speko voice connections bind a caller to that work. > - Private voice routes must recognize an authenticated human caller. > - Cloud sign-in uses a trusted Cloud actor, rather than a local session actor. > - The voice caller check rejected that existing authentication type. > - This pull request accepts authenticated Cloud callers and retains the current access checks. > - Cloud users can load call history and start private voice sessions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15727, #15728, #15729. **What happened?** A signed-in Cloud user sees “Sign in to start a private voice conversation” when the Speko connection loads call activity. The same check prevents the user from starting a private voice session. **Expected behavior** The trusted Cloud user identity should have the same voice caller access as a local authenticated session. The current company and user identity checks must still apply. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign in to a Cloud workspace with experimental chat connectors enabled. 2. Connect a Speko persona to an existing agent. 3. Open its call activity, or start a browser voice session. 4. Observe the sign-in rejection despite the authenticated workspace session. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on the voice route in master at |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime.

Persist agent-owned instance secrets through lifecycle results (#16191)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip coordinates agents and controls when they can run. > - Lifecycle plugins prepare and remove resources for each agent. > - Those resources can require private connection credentials. > - The current SDK can resolve configured secrets but cannot save these credentials securely. > - Ordinary company secrets can be bound to agents and do not provide the required server-only boundary. > - This change saves agent-owned instance secrets through the existing local lifecycle result and native secret service. > - The tenant can retain runtime credentials through restarts without a separate encryption system or remote API. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Agent lifecycle, plugin contract, and native secret storage. **Problem or motivation** Lifecycle plugins need to save private runtime connection details for the owning agent. Worker memory loses these details on restart. Plugin state and company secrets do not provide a private runtime-only boundary. **Proposed solution** Add optional instance-secret changes to lifecycle results. Save them through the existing secret service and local encrypted provider before accepting the result. Require company, agent, plugin, phase, operation, revision, and current unexpired attempt ownership. Supply saved values through the existing local preparation/resume request. **Alternatives considered** A separate encrypted store duplicates the native secret system. Generic plugin company-secret writes proposed by #5007 do not supply agent ownership or a server-only secret scope. This change does not add that general write API. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing lifecycle contract from #15631. It does not add a resource provider or select an execution backend. ## What Changed - Add an instance scope to native secrets with mandatory agent/plugin ownership, a company-qualified agent foreign key, and key uniqueness per owner. Existing company and user scopes retain their constraints. - Reuse native creation, rotation, deletion, secret versions, access audit, and the local encrypted provider. Keep values out of company catalogs, normal bindings, agent access, and public agent records. - Accept local secret patches only after locking and checking the current lifecycle operation and required plugin selection. Storage failure or a stale reply cannot complete setup. Expired or replaced attempt owners cannot overwrite a successor's credentials. - Keep vault-import conflicts company-scoped. Protect instance-owned account-home paths during failed device-login cleanup with a private, fail-closed scan. - Skip decryption on stop and cleanup so a lost key cannot block removal. Cascade secret records when their agent or plugin is deleted. - Log fixed provider diagnostics without raw errors that can contain credentials. Document the local contract, runtime resolver, and access-map exclusions. Retain the five latest migration snapshots through the normal generator pruning. ## Verification - 239 focused tests passed across agent-instance-secrets, lifecycle, secrets-service, secrets-routes, plugin-secrets-handler, and agent-device-login-routes. Used disposable PostgreSQL 18 clusters through the existing test constructor seam because the bundled binary cannot start on this macOS host. The temporary harness is outside git. - Regression tests reproduced the vault-import conflict and missed cleanup claimant before the fixes; both pass after the fixes. - New coverage includes encrypted native versions, rotation, restart recovery, company/agent/plugin isolation, ordinary-read and binding denial, stale replies, storage failure, safe logging, cleanup without the master key, and same-name secret isolation, native account-home mutation guards, lease takeover/expiry, and live agent/plugin deletion cascades. - Direct server TypeScript check, DB/shared typechecks, migration numbering/safety checks, module boundaries, and git diff check passed. - Full workspace typecheck and build were attempted; both stop at the missing local cargo toolchain. The full test command was started and stopped after failures in unchanged native-runtime/workspace suites plus bundled-PostgreSQL skips; it did not complete. CI must verify the full toolchain paths. - Current head `c0f8bfd12477ad509252ecd40e168a6c84dbeb36`: all 55 CI checks passed, including the previously canceled e2e shard. Greptile Apex reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. GitHub reports the branch mergeable and clean. - No live provider probe, production data access, or deployment. Reviewed the diff for credentials, private references, and run artifacts. ## Risks Apply migration 0339_luxuriant_iron_monger.sql before deploying tenant code. It adds nullable ownership columns, a partial unique index, foreign keys, and a stricter scope constraint. Existing rows remain valid. Keep the schema on application rollback. Preserve the existing secrets master key through deployments and backup restoration. The lifecycle request/result now has a sensitive, server-only field. Plugins must never log it or return it to an agent or browser. Values stay in the tenant database through the existing encryption provider. Trusted runtime consumers must apply normal execution admission before resolving them. Older hosts omit instanceSecrets; plugins that require durable storage must reject those hosts. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, and local test execution. fix: recover saved workspace results automatically (#15824)
## Thinking Path - Paperclip preserves accepted agent results before workspace copyback and result commitment. - A replaced controller can leave a physical copyback owner receipt behind. A lost database lock or expired lease cannot prove that its tar/Git children stopped. - Infrastructure recovery should belong to the runtime and deployment harness; task users should not investigate processes or attest shutdown. - New receipts record the exact deployment. The harness independently verifies that deployment fully stopped and signs a short-lived proof bound to the stack, run, owner and deployment. - The existing guarded reconciler then finishes the same accepted result without a new agent turn. Legacy receipts retain the documented administrator API after independent platform verification. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An accepted native result can remain at `workspace_finalizing` with an abandoned physical copyback owner. Repeated recovery sweeps could replace specific instructions with advice to start new agent work. The first version of this PR exposed a shutdown-evidence form in the task; that asks end users to resolve infrastructure details. **Expected behavior** Automatically verify and recover the exact stopped deployment, preserve the original accepted result and existing approval/monitor waits, and show only a quiet task status. Unknown or live workers must remain fenced. Older receipts without platform identity need independently verified operator assistance through the administrator API. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Persist an accepted native result and a copyback receipt from a prior controller. 2. Replace that deployment before workspace finalization commits. 3. Let the normal finalization reconciler revisit the saved result. 4. With a platform-bound receipt and a fully stopped deployment, recovery should finish automatically. With missing, live, unverifiable or changed ownership, it must not write files or create another provider turn. Related public work: #14402 introduced copyback ownership; #9687 handles dead-run finalize barriers; #15795 handles terminal stale-run cleanup. This change addresses an accepted result whose physical copyback owner prevents commitment. ## What Changed - Record Railway project, environment, service and deployment identity on new physical copyback owners. - Request read-only platform verification from the managed cloud harness. Require an Ed25519 stop receipt with a disjoint purpose, configured signing key, exact stack/run/owner/deployment binding and valid expiry. - Keep live, unknown, malformed, unavailable and legacy owners fenced. Compare the whole prior receipt during ownership takeover, under the existing dedicated advisory lock. - Persist platform proof and audit automatic takeover. Resume normal finalization of the same saved result, preserving task ownership, approved boundaries, monitors and pending confirmations. - Remove process metadata, shutdown evidence, confirmation checkboxes and infrastructure-repair forms from task views. Suppress the duplicate technical owner-recovery card. Show “Restoring saved work…” only from server-confirmed recovery or queued operator recovery; platform identity alone shows the operator-assistance fallback. Remove the status when recovery resolves. - Share current-task, current-running-execution, accepted-result, authoritative-reviewer and newer-execution checks between automatic and operator recovery. Validate after the provider lookup, atomically with the owner claim, and again before file publication; closed or superseded tasks cannot start copyback. - Keep the separately authorized exact-owner API for operator recovery of legacy receipts, with active-lock, live-controller, stale-result and newer-execution rejection. Generic dismissal cannot bypass the copyback fence. - Replace obsolete form stories with production-backed automatic, queued, legacy, completed and mobile examples; retain stable suite IDs. Update the operator runbook and scoped Storybook catalog. ## Verification - Red/green: new platform-proof tests failed before implementation; the database takeover regression failed against the original ownership guard; reduced-UI assertions failed against the original form. All pass after the changes. - Passed: 59 physical-owner/finalization database tests using isolated PostgreSQL, including real reconciler commitment from all three saved-result phases through both automatic and operator recovery. They preserve result identity, exact saved file bytes, pending approval and overdue monitor waits, and create no new run or wake request. Unknown evidence and changed ownership remain fenced. - Passed: 162 focused proof, cloud identity, recovery route, recovery-card and reduced-UI tests. - Passed: full workspace typecheck and build, final server/UI typechecks, token gates, and Storybook build. - Browser inspection: desktop task composition shows only the quiet status; completed example removes it and retains the approval-wait message. Mobile shows the existing bottom navigation with no horizontal overflow. These are fixture UI observations, not live provider acceptance. - A companion harness change implements the actual provider check, signed receipts, server-token authentication and bounded/coalesced provider reads. Its full typecheck and test suite passed: 3,240 passed, 92 skipped, zero failures. This application alone cannot enable platform verification. - The updated full application `pnpm test:run` was stopped after repeated local embedded-Postgres startup failures; it is not claimed green. The same affected recovery suites pass against isolated PostgreSQL. CI passed on final head `9ad5c3529e`: 54 successful checks, two intentional skips, and successful legacy Snyk status. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Global Storybook catalog validation is green: 225 files, 2,224 stories. Its 17 catalog/index tests pass. Master was merged and the inherited index metadata was reconciled after source review. - Review correction red/green: two UI and two database assertions reproduced misleading progress / missing server recovery state; all pass after server-confirmed state was added. All 153 focused server tests and 68 UI tests pass on the final recovery code, including repeated-sweep idempotence. Full workspace typecheck/build, token gates and Storybook build also pass. - Safety regression red/green: stale-task copyback and publication tests failed against the previous guard. The final suite covers changes during proof lookup, closed/cancelled tasks, replaced execution/checkout, newer and queued legacy runs, reassignment and rejected/unbound results, plus the real reconciler selecting closed or superseded tasks. Files remain untouched and no workspace operation starts. - No staging mutations, deployment, live provider probes or live production recovery were performed. The three historical receipts lack deployment identity and still require independent operator proof. ## Risks Automatic takeover requires the companion harness release and configured runtime-identity keys. Deploying only this application leaves unavailable evidence fenced. Legacy receipts are not retrospectively assigned a deployment identity. An authorized operator can still make an incorrect attestation through the fallback API; its administrator gate and exact-owner safeguards remain. Provider history that is missing or deeper than the bounded lookup defers automatic recovery. Copyback can still fail under its existing retained-workspace policy. No migration, telemetry change or cloud provider credential delivery is required. The companion harness PR also has passing CI and a 5/5 review; neither branch is deployed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with repository inspection, browser verification, tool use and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <paperclip@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> |

Fix skill source removal with a keep-or-delete choice (#16150)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - GitHub sources import skills and keep their updates together.
> - Disconnect only disabled a source and kept its read-only imports.
> - A disabled source could not be removed or imported again.
> - Removing a source needs an explicit decision about its imported
skills.
> - This pull request removes the source after the user keeps editable
copies or deletes the imports.
> - Existing disabled sources use the same removal flow.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #15731, #14713.
**What happened?**
Disconnect left the repository on Sources. Its Disconnect action was
then disabled. The saved repository still blocked a new import.
**Expected behavior**
Remove the repository from Sources. Require a choice to keep editable
copies or delete its imports. Allow removal of sources that are already
disconnected.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Import a repository in Skills → Sources.
2. Choose Disconnect source.
3. Observe the disconnected row and disabled removal action.
4. Try to import the repository again.

feat(runner): qualify Codex platform packages and cache hosted builds (#16028)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native execution needs a compatible installed daemon and provider dependency. > - The Codex-default work found missing platform packages and clean-install startup failures. > - Release builds also repeat dependency compilation and run preparation serially. > - This prerequisite packages four daemon targets and verifies installed native startup. > - It also caches hosted Cargo dependencies and overlaps JavaScript preparation with compilation. > - Agent creation defaults and experimental gates stay at the current master behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. Refs #15555. Refs #15422. Refs #15926. Refs #15932. Extract runtime and installation support from #15683. This prerequisite has 65 changed files. Creation, onboarding, imports, UI runner selection and graduation remain in the dependent PR. Feature/access maps and the Storybook source catalog stay synchronized. Existing agents keep their execution choices. ## What Changed - Correct the existing runner test fixtures. Reserve owned credential quorum listeners through the existing bounded fixture helper. Keep foreign listeners intact, run actual credential staging once, and preserve its rejection and unchanged-auth assertions. Reuse the durable-resume outer-limit correction. Wait for actual warm-completion and held-authorization callback entry under the existing recovery deadline and surface early request errors. Preserve every semantic assertion. - Retain bounded installation failure diagnostics through the existing qualification receipt upload. Keep the original error, 10-minute deadline and all success checks. - Keep startup ownership until credential preparation and registration drain. Reject duplicate and post-close startup/resume work. Observe shutdown during normal and adopted authentication readiness. Preserve the primary failure and retain private state when cleanup is unconfirmed. - Package Linux x64/ARM64 and macOS Apple Silicon/Intel daemons. Verify target headers, source identities, manifests, and hashes before assembly and installation. - Reuse the existing release producer/consumer workflows. Cache Cargo dependencies by target, OS, compiler, lockfile, and contract inputs. Rebuild workspace binaries. Permit trusted cache writes only for canonical exact-source master pushes. - Overlap JavaScript preparation with native compilation. Join both commands and failure/cancellation cleanup before artifact verification. - Preserve shell positional arguments in the shared SSH runner and apply environment assignments correctly. Reject environment option keys. Six before/after controls and two real SSH subprocess paths pass with zero provider calls; this fix lands before both Codex and Claude defaults. - Admit verified suspended SSH backups during cold controller continuation, using the same full-scope, integrity and lifecycle checks as sandbox targets. Two positive SSH cases fail before; all 14 positive/negative matrix cases pass afterward. Active ownership and corrupt/malformed/nonempty state remain rejected. - Record measured sandbox platform facts through the existing explicit environment probe. Bind facts to the company, effective provider configuration, immutable OCI image and actual captured image binding. Check the returned cleanup receipt. Reject client-authored proof and stale or named boot identities. Creation and discovery allocate nothing. Preserve connection-only behavior. - Resolve the actual remote Codex target and preserve same-host development overrides. Preserve runtime artifact verification. Use actual protocol/model compatibility rather than a numerical CLI version fence. - Resolve the installed Codex login dependency on 64-bit Linux and Mac independently of the daemon libc baseline. Preserve account homes and safe errors. - Fix actual clean-install TOML table comparison. Preserve strict semantic checks, comments, private writes, and malformed-input rejection. Preserve primary startup failures and bounded cleanup. - Document GNU libc 2.39+ and stock Ubuntu sandbox prerequisites. Qualify ARM startup with a scoped distribution profile and unchanged global restrictions. Preserve Windows and Alpine deferral. - Preserve selected and saved native Codex reasoning effort in the existing UI builder, while excluding it from other providers. This small shared correction prevents import edits higher in the stack from dropping effort. - Reuse existing installed-package checks and assertions. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex native payloads. Official npm dependencies supply the consumer's Codex binaries. All Docker and native builds stay remote. ## Verification Candidate: `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It includes current master `e168512f7bdbb6af6ea01954c6d7ed80b91e903e` and preserves prior candidates through ordinary commits. Current [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601686) is successful on attempt 2. GitHub reports 54 successful checks and four conditional skips, including required verify and browser aggregates, workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, both runner shards and [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601609). Fresh current-head Greptile is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. The passing build's clean Grok/Codex report records CI merge source `7a82a37438e6e448abc7cc5caa60dc2519a97be0`, 18 installed packages, omitted Codex payloads, official host-only npm dependencies and zero provider calls. Pi setup and its no-prompt lease verification also pass. The first attempt's single 60-second Node archive download timeout remains retained; its DNS/TLS/download cause remains unknown. One unchanged-source retry was requested through the normal Build-job dialog with debug logging disabled. GitHub's attempt 2 graph reports the other CI jobs as well; no second retry or source/deadline relaxation was made. The [final exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38347027535) is successful on literal `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly and clean installed consumers on Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64. The nine qualification-mode skips are intentional; full CI above covers their ordinary gates. Native builds and Docker assembly ran remotely. The predecessor [`dae808` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38342104102) remains literal historical evidence. Only tests and the dated record differ from that source; runtime, package and workflow code is unchanged. The reused credential fixture correction passes all 42 canonical Node 24 controls with synthetic data and independent matching-source review, and the current hosted runner shard passes. Production credential behavior is unchanged. **Merge hold:** current-source CI, fresh 5/5 review and exact-source package qualification pass. Actual code-owner approval and normal protected merge remain pending. No slice has merged or deployed. GitHub CLI authentication needs refresh; the normal signed-in embedded GitHub UI provided this status without credential workarounds. - The master merge preserves both Storybook source-review appendices and the guarded test-home cleanup. All six existing cleanup controls pass without skips. Master's isolated-home helper/test/setup are byte-identical. The two existing whitespace lines in master's unrelated privacy test remain outside this PR's diff. - Canonical Node 24 passes all 24 existing public-install helper tests. Three narrow added cases prove bounded/redacted failure metadata, symlink exclusions, original exception identity, failed diagnostic writes and no false failure on success. The Mac installer now uses `--timing`; at most two 16 KiB tails and 32 structured entries per tail enter the existing receipt upload. Raw argv, URLs, environment, error text and stacks are omitted. A failed receipt explicitly remains FAILED/unqualified/runtime-not-attempted. The 600,000 ms install deadline and every real package/hash/payload/lock/lifecycle/runtime oracle are unchanged. - Canonical Node 24 reproduces the durable-resume outer timeout under controlled fake latency. Only its outer test limit changes to 15 seconds; internal 500 ms/5 second deadlines and usage/effect assertions remain. Controlled warm-recovery and before-bootstrap authorization scheduling delays reproduce their callback polling failures, while the explicit entry signals pass. Early recovery errors surface unchanged. Independent review is clear. Historical mock binaries support the fixture controls; fresh full hosted CI remains decisive. The original hosted callback failure cause is inconclusive. - The composed runner/surfaces/server/E2E TypeScript checks pass. Map checks pass 35 areas/171 capability IDs. Token gates pass. The existing Storybook catalog passes 223 files/2,210 stories; story IDs and classifications remain intact. The current master had 25 inherited stale fingerprints from three changed map recipes. Only those guarded fingerprints and a source-only review note change; all 92 non-map story/component/fixture inputs remain unchanged. Existing classifications are retained. This proves source structure, not visual or live acceptance. - The 65-file contribution audit has no code file crossing from below 1,000 lines to above the limit. Earlier comment cleanup preserves executable emissions, parsed workflows and action pins. Independent cleanup/catalog and three-file reporting reviews are clear. No new workflow, suite, grader or local native/Docker build was added. **Prior `dae808` gate evidence:** fresh Greptile is 5/5 with four resolved threads, isolated native compilation and the browser aggregate pass. Its first runner shard passes the previous two corrections but fails a different held-authorization cell at the implicit one-second polling deadline. It records 1,672 passes/one failure/three skips. This candidate applies the verified entry-signal correction without changing production deadlines or any semantic assertions. Its original hosted cause remains inconclusive until fresh CI. **Previous-source evidence, kept literal:** the [exact `16a532` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38338806076) passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly, Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. Its fresh review is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. Full CI records 52 successful checks, four conditional skips and the two fixture failures corrected here. This is not a green full-CI candidate or proof for the new source. `64c074fb8da1b31f8d6042c4fef48dc4164e759b` passed [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726938), 54 checks/four conditional skips, [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726787/job/115085895328), and fresh Greptile 5/5/all four resolved threads. The hosted transport suite passed 246 tests and startup trust passed 22, closing that source's local fake-binary limitation. These are historical after reconciliation. The [previous exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332921463) built all four platform daemons and passed public Linux package assembly plus Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. **Intel Mac failed:** its initial scripts-disabled npm install timed out before lifecycle/runtime assertions. The underlying download/resolution/host cause is unknown because the old helper deleted the npm logs. This is the concrete baseline for the diagnostic change. The failed campaign remains failed; no all-platform signoff or automatic retry is claimed. The earlier `a200495` [four-target campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38283695248) and [scoped ARM qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38291535914) remain component evidence. Cargo restores were cold misses; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads. Official npm dependencies supply Codex on the user's platform. Current-source full workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, static/Rust/native tests, all browser shards and exact-source package consumers must pass. New-agent defaults and final managed onboarding belong to #15683. Actual private Cloud composition, warm/cold signup, task/follow-up and rollback compatibility remain later release gates. Source audits found that ordinary managed onboarding does not run the saved platform probe and Cloud distributes named snapshots without a verified final boot-image binding. These dependent release blockers remain open; prequalified E2E fixtures do not close them. Master adds task-workspace migrations; the final image/migrator and previous-image checks must include them. ARM paid task/follow-up and ordinary OS APT installation are not proven. ## Risks - Multi-target packages require source and header agreement. Missing or mismatched artifacts fail explicitly. Existing execution choices remain unchanged. - Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+ and compatible sandbox prerequisites. The scoped hosted ARM preparation does not qualify arbitrary containers or kernels. Windows, 32-bit ARM, and Alpine remain deferred. - Only dependency crates are cached. Preview jobs cannot write trusted caches. Concurrent command cleanup must preserve the primary failure. - Native-free Paperclip packaging retains official Codex npm dependencies. No Codex payload bundling, schema migration, automatic agent migration, or production deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and parallel agents. The exact serving model snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): default human task replies to the latest assigning agent (#15594)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks let agents ask a person for input. > - The reply composer needs a useful default recipient. > - A recent comment does not identify the agent that assigned the task. > - The old fallback can select the person who is writing the reply. > - This change uses the latest agent assignment and keeps manual choices. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** When an agent assigns a task to a person, the reply composer can select that person or a different commenter. A data refresh can also replace a manual selection. **Expected behavior** For a task assigned to the current person, select the latest agent that assigned it to them. If no such assignment exists, use the latest other commenter. If neither exists, leave the recipient empty. Keep explicit choices during refreshes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have agent Alpha assign a task to a person. 2. Assign it to agent Beta, then have Beta assign it to the same person. 3. Open the task as that person. 4. Check that the reply composer selects Beta. 5. Select another recipient. Refresh task data. Check that the selection stays. Related work: #15091 shares task composer controls. This change fixes recipient defaults. ## What Changed - Read real assignment changes from REST and native runner task activity, in time order. - Record human assignee fields in native create and reassign activity. - Ignore unchanged assignment fields and assignments to other people. - Use the assigning agent before comment hints for human-owned tasks. - Connect the suggestion to current and classic task composers and pipeline replies. - Keep manual selections when suggestions change. - Add regression tests and document the fallback. - Use tasks with no assignee in the attachment receipt tests. This keeps the tests on the comment route. Dismiss announcements through the real UI. - Record human and agent assignees in REST creation receipts. Include child creation in the assignment history resolver. ## Verification - Focused tests cover assignment order, creation, other recipients, unchanged fields, fallback, and manual selections. - Browser fixture uses the real composer and assignment resolver. It selects Beta and keeps a manual human selection after history refresh. - Passed: 223 focused tests across four suites. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`. - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates`. - The initial CI run passed full build, typecheck, Rust, unit tests and seven E2E shards. The attachment shard exposed tests that relied on the old self-selection default. The tests now select the recipient explicitly. - Native assignment regression tests and resolver tests pass: 40 tests. - Attachment E2E suite: 10 passed; one page-load timing failure passed on an isolated rerun. All 11 cases passed across the suite and rerun. - Previous full CI passed at |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their access to apps. > - The app access page shows people with linked chat accounts. > - The identity response omitted the user's saved image. > - The row placed the avatar beside only the first name line. > - This change returns the image and centers the avatar beside both name lines. > - People can recognize linked accounts and still see initials when no image is available. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The app access page showed initials even when the linked Paperclip user had a profile image. The avatar was above the vertical center of the Disconnect button. **Expected behavior** Show the linked user's saved image. Center it beside the Paperclip and chat names. Keep initials when no image is available. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Link a Slack account to a Paperclip user with a profile image. 2. Open the app's Access tab. 3. Inspect the person's avatar and the two name lines. Searched public issues and pull requests. No duplicate fix was found. Related avatar work in #15095 concerns agent uploads, not linked user profiles. ## What Changed - Return `paperclipUserImage` from the chat principal service and declare it in the API and client types. - Use the shared avatar primitives and center the avatar beside the full name block. Keep full names available in hover text. - Add image and initials examples to the existing Storybook access story, with image and alignment checks. - Extend the service test to check saved images and missing images. ## Verification - Token gates and `git diff --check` pass. - The 33 existing chat setup and identity-link UI tests pass. - The OAuth installer service regression test passes. - Chromium rendered the Storybook Access story at desktop and mobile sizes. The avatar, name block, and Disconnect button centers all measured 307 CSS pixels on desktop. - UI typecheck passes. Full repository typecheck and build stop at the Rust runner because this workspace has no `cargo`. The initial parallel typecheck also exceeded the 4 GiB workspace limit. The full local test attempt was stopped as memory approached the 4 GiB limit; it has no complete verdict. CI passed the full build, typecheck, test, and E2E lanes on the initial commit. The previously reviewed commit passed 54 checks with two intentionally skipped Storybook checks. Master was merged on October 10 to resolve an import conflict; fresh CI is running for `24badb742d331c1b6ee3e90cbd06defefe5cd634`. Token gates and whitespace checks pass after conflict resolution. The single retry after CI runner shutdowns passed. Greptile gives this commit 5/5, with both review threads resolved. ### Screenshots The Storybook fixture shows an image, fallback initials, and a pending account. ## Risks Low risk. The API field is additive and needs no migration. The image uses the same avatar primitive as other user identities. Missing or failed images retain the initials fallback. Other chat providers share this access row. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Tool use and code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
