fix(ui): ignore MDXEditor initial markdown normalization in MarkdownEditor (#13915)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Operators edit agent instructions, routine descriptions, and other Markdown fields in the web UI > - All of these fields use the shared `MarkdownEditor`, which wraps MDXEditor > - MDXEditor re-serializes the initial Markdown when it loads, and it sends the result through `onChange` > - MDXEditor marks that event with the second `onChange` argument, `initialMarkdownNormalize`, but `MarkdownEditor` ignores the flag > - Thus each parent with dirty tracking shows unsaved changes before the user types, and each parent must add its own interaction gate (#12502, #13485) > - This pull request drops the flagged event inside `MarkdownEditor` > - The benefit is that no consumer reports unchanged content as modified on load, and new consumers do not need their own gate ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13472 Related: - #12502 (merged) adds an interaction gate for agent instructions in `AgentDetail.tsx`. - #13485 (open) adds the same gate to the two routine description editors. Its description names "a shared fix inside `MarkdownEditor`" as a follow-up. This PR is that follow-up. It does not conflict with #13485. The two changes can merge in any order. ## What Changed - `MarkdownEditor.tsx`: read the second `onChange` argument (`initialMarkdownNormalize`). When it is `true`, do not call the parent `onChange`. - The check runs after the empty-document mount guard. That guard still restores content when the first event is empty. - `latestValueRef` keeps the parent value. Thus the prop-sync effect does not push the original Markdown back into the editor. - `MarkdownEditor.test.tsx`: the MDXEditor mock can now send a flagged normalization event on mount. A new test makes sure that the parent `onChange` does not run and that the editor keeps its content. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx`: 48 tests pass. - The new test fails without the change ("expected vi.fn() to not be called at all, but actually been called 1 times"). It passes with the change. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` (full UI suite): 634 test files and 6653 tests pass. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`: passes with 0 errors. - I read the MDXEditor 4.2.3 source (`dist/plugins/core/index.js`). The flag is `true` only for the first export after the initial Markdown is set. The editor sets it to `false` after that export. User edits and `setMarkdown` echoes get `false`. - Manual check: we tested the same guard in a real browser on an older Paperclip base (MDXEditor 3.55), together with two changes that `master` already has from #12502. We opened an agent Instructions tab with `-` bullets. The Save bar and the unsaved-changes prompt did not show until we typed. After an edit, one prompt showed for each navigation, and Save still stored the edit. Manual steps for a reviewer: 1. Put an instruction file with `-` bullets on an agent, for example `- first` and `- second`. 2. Open the agent Instructions tab. Do not type. 3. Make sure that the Save bar does not show. 4. Go to another tab. Make sure that no unsaved-changes prompt shows. 5. Do the same steps with a routine description that has `-` bullets. ## Risks - Low risk. The change affects only the first `onChange` event after the editor loads. - A consumer that uses the first event to learn the normalized Markdown no longer gets it. We found no such consumer in the 24 files that render `MarkdownEditor`, and the full UI suite passes. - There are no API, database, migration, or visual changes. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`), 1M-token context window, run as a Claude Code agent with tool use (shell, file edits, test runs). fix(ui): keep code-block pastes in the nested editor (#15773)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - People write a routine description in a rich markdown editor > - That editor contains a nested code block for literal text > - A paste that starts with a markdown mark, such as a dash, goes to the outer editor > - The text does not appear in the code block > - This pull request sends that paste to the nested editor as literal text > - This pull request also adds a copy control next to the Overview heading > - The benefit is that a person can keep a routine description in a code block and copy it to another Paperclip instance ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A paste into a code block in a routine description does not appear when the pasted text starts with a markdown mark, such as a dash. A plain single line still appears. **Expected behavior** The nested code editor receives the paste as literal text. The text stays in the code block. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a routine and edit the description. 2. Add a text code block. 3. Click inside that code block. 4. Paste a line that starts with a dash. 5. The line does not appear in the code block. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `3389bea`. **Deployment mode** Local dev (pnpm dev) ## What Changed - The markdown editor does not take a paste that starts inside a nested code block. - The same editor is used for descriptions in the routine page and in the rest of the app. - The Overview heading has a copy button. - The button copies the draft description while you edit. - The button copies the saved description when you do not edit. - Unit tests cover the paste path and the copy button. - Screenshots show the heading while you view a description and while you edit it. ## Screenshots The copy icon sits next to the Overview title. The heading component is the production component. The page frame around it is a preview. ## Verification - Run `corepack pnpm exec vitest run --config ui/vitest.config.ts ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/RoutineSectionHeading.test.tsx ui/src/lib/routine-description-copy.test.ts` from the repository root. 57 tests passed on the code commit. - Open a routine description. Paste a line that starts with a dash into a text code block. Confirm that the line stays in the code block. - Click the copy button next to Overview. Paste the result into a new routine. Confirm that the description matches the draft while you edit, and the saved description when you do not edit. - Open the screenshots above. Confirm the copy icon is next to Overview in the view state and in the edit state, in light theme and in dark theme. - This workspace did not open a signed-in routine page. The screenshots render the production heading with the app color tokens. ## Risks Low risk. A paste inside a code block now stays in that block. A paste in the rest of the editor still follows the previous markdown path. The copy button only reads the description text. ## Model Used xAI Grok 4.7 with tool use. The model wrote this change in a Paperclip agent run. Context window is large. The model used tools to edit code, run tests, and capture screenshots. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (no user docs describe this paste path) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use. > - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository access. > - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that connection hard to finish. > - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve creation and repository access. > - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials, signature verification, and task admission. > - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway, then completes setup in the stack. > - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat connector opt-in does not control them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub replies. **Current behavior** Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment. **Proposed behavior** Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent. Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit. **Breaking changes** GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters. Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual existing-App recovery remain supported. Companion gateway: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard was found. ## What Changed - Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog, routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue running when the UI setting is off. - Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts, known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App recovery. - Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage, installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and outbound local delivery. - Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than creating another App route. - Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot. - Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking Board messages or questions. - Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions, numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs. - Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor. - Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest 100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery, authorization, UI, and browser regressions. - Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar, feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port. ## Verification - Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it passed without changing the code. - Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the attachment suite. - Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview, and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI shard. - GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests, delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and company boundaries. - Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable qualification database was removed after testing. - Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot execution authority. ## Risks - Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and tenant binding. - Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations that already applied the earlier draft migration number. - A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed review. Runtime checks remain separate. - Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools remain opt-in. - Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and agent. - Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without granting new installation access. - A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text; the governed outbox retains its evidence. Deleted or replaced response comments are not recreated through a personal credential fallback. - GitHub logo upload remains an optional human action in GitHub App settings. Runtime provisioning, delegated setup, screenshot publication, and production push delivery remain deferred. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with tool use and code execution. The exact runtime model identifier and context size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; complete test matrix is checked in CI) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: integrate Pi 1.0 into the experimental Runner (#14921)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The experimental Runner owns provider processes and durable sessions. > - Pi needs working task execution and human controls. > - The five-PR stack must preserve changes already on master. > - Each layer now carries the complete integrated source for a safe sequential fallback. > - This PR belongs to native GitHub stack #15602, ending at #14956. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14436, #14631, #14743 and #14956. Ship Pi 1.0 through the experimental Paperclip Runner. The five PRs are #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924 and #14956. The user authorized the complete merge after checks pass. Existing `pi_local` execution is unchanged. Accounting and wider provider/platform qualification remain deferred. ## What Changed - Recover missing final replies after workspace finalization changes owners, using accepted-turn evidence without rerunning work or granting external-chat publication. - Preserve the admitted Pi instruction root across warm runs, while retaining changed-root rejection. - Give Pi a bounded 15-second default shutdown grace so stop, drain acknowledgement and durable suspension can complete. Explicit deadlines and other providers retain their existing behavior. - Integrate the Pi 1.0 runtime and master contracts. - Use Pi profile 22. Preserve explicit caller-selected models and exact native thinking levels. Keep Pi's wrapper, helper, extension and question/control behavior unchanged from the qualified profile-19 runtime. - Preserve master's Dot lifecycle and consent fields, configured task environment, status guards and current Codex/Claude dependency versions. Cursor stays qualified. Copilot stays pending; profile 17 binds the changed shared protocol validation sources. - Exclude general AWS IAM credentials from Pi static/custom provider bindings and selected task projections; preserve the provider-scoped Bedrock bearer key. Profile 21 is retained as historical provenance. Rust and cloud install probes use the current declaration. - Patch bundled brace-expansion 5.0.9 to the exact official 5.0.12 payload. Pin the patch and complete runtime closures. Include the patch in normal installed setup tooling. Keep the upstream Pi shrinkwrap as provenance and permit only this exact security correction. - Include current attestation files in the Docker build context. Keep the repository lockfile unchanged from master. CI and private image builds resolve manifest changes before their frozen installation. ## Verification - Full local `pnpm -r typecheck` passes, including Runner Rust, server and UI. Focused integration checks pass: 194 Runner admission/environment tests, 63 profile/credential tests with one expected skip, 152 Dot/UI configuration tests, and Pi transcript/notice tests. - Full local `pnpm build` passes on the final source. - Fresh final-source checks pass: all 698 Rust workspace tests (32 binaries), 156 credential/profile/controller tests with one expected skip, Runner TypeScript typecheck, and 20 package/setup/sandbox tests. - The profile-21 Pi materializer passes on the native host with the official pinned Node 24.21.0 and its npm. It verifies all 150 locked packages, the patched dependency and the exact closure. Setup/package bundle tests and UI token gates pass. - The old hashes were reproduced for all three supported targets before calculating the patched graph. New closure hashes are darwin-arm64 `282022db10150c6632b3444df421342e7d534bdf5d5fb1097a2e79d0625a2bcf`, darwin-x64 `64e251e19009f755c0b04f73ce2138246faab71a961b0f13d75ebfcc34bef12e`, and linux-x64 `713b1fdff42fb56a1518bdc084f181d70bee8ebadc3e4b1d76321ed9108c8410`. Independent native platform execution is separate from graph identity reproduction. - Historical cloud qualification remains unchanged: all seven core cases pass on shipping source `10dc43c9ec65d88c2f782d62afb296d09494f215`, harness `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`, image `sha256:5b3a775b383591bda1b0c1889e509acc70ce7f37c53f09733c81d59037f02280`, and accepted Sonnet 4.6/low fixture. All 215 canonical files and all seven cleanup checks pass independent verification. These are profile-19 results and are not relabeled as fresh profile-22 runs. - Current Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [The readiness plan](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/pi-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-02-pi-production-readiness.md) preserves campaign and failed-attempt provenance. - Merge only after every PR's current-head CI and fresh review pass. Linux CI covers the full suites, build and browser tests. The local embedded Postgres API-authority suite cannot start on this macOS/Node 26 host, so Linux CI must confirm that suite. ### Fresh profile-22 core qualification — 2026-10-08 All seven accepted core cases pass canonically on Pi profile 22, with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. This model is a fixture; production accepts the caller's explicit Pi provider/model. Runtime/install source: `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401`. Frozen accepted harness: `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`. Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [Hosted Linux image and clean-install verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868328023) passes, including all 20 source-bound archives, normal CLI/Pi setup, companion import and the production pack reader. This exact installation source includes the latest master integration and the corrected Pi warm instruction-root fence. Full local typecheck/build and current-head hosted CI verify the final stack. All 13 focused real-root regressions pass. The full local executor suite passed 662 tests; 15 database tests could not start the Mac embedded PostgreSQL service. Hosted Linux CI passes the full required verification and E2E checks. These fresh results keep their own source identity; profile-19 results remain historical. | Core path | Canonical campaign | Retained archive SHA-256 | | --- | --- | --- | | File edit, validation, download and Done | `pi-core22-replyfix-0-1791511228` | 23 files; `a473e8603a3dd4737863291f8d3d1e392391f0b16d433c3e0e0e9d8baf7a97b0` | | Pending question and controller restart | `pi-core22-replyfix-1-1791511376` | 33 files; `6b829c4eb74e1f32a89c692a4ae7130dbfc1c6d3cf13915effe2103d9e242c8e` | | Three-turn session/process/workspace continuity | `pi-core22-replyfix-2-1791511587` | 23 files; `7a87021f8f9a3fdd3c58bb4467f8d82c635e3ea4795d6e75f144d9aa14818df8` | | Four typed questions and browser reconnects | `pi-core22-replyfix-3-1791511881` | 42 files; `9e31755252be1f4f9cb0626c984c142d4d1ae5f5bee3a7af08444db8d12c280a` | | Plan approval and completion | `pi-core22-replyfix-4-1791512031` | 22 files; `a0383ce1aab38e7b5a25ce0e9dd3bebea5c037ebd96ae6b29dae19015da2ae2c` | | Same-turn steering and permission denial | `pi-core22-replyfix-5-1791512261` | 39 files; `c929b8c7070f0b66aedc17e65ca46e6beab1e363926ac9f7e2a75fb250f05949` | | Stop during pending permission | `pi-core22-replyfix-6-1791512390` | 33 files; `7f0a58ae0f4d5bfc76149435f4e322537089c5bd16e7ffe9b5ad71f10a621a07` | All 215 canonical files (28714587 bytes) are independently hash-verified. All seven cleanup grades pass, with no owned runtime process or temporary root after each case. Automatic retries are zero. The owned cloud host stopped normally after retention. The prior profile-22 warm attempt remains failed and separately retained: archive SHA-256 `1e54eba5ec72b50cee1534b23d1d1d4f21a090006b8a64501ba70db972abfde5`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Diagnosis reproduced a product bug comparing an agent-files root against an unset checkpoint-only field. The fix stores the admitted physical root separately from the adopted per-run collection capability. The real-root regression fails before the fix and passes afterward, including rejection of a changed physical root. Fixture, grader, model and all seven accepted case IDs are unchanged; this fresh campaign tests final-reply publication after file registration first. The intermediate restart attempt also remains failed and retained: archive SHA-256 `5dcaefdf1d17cf4cd54fd4cf810f45e736667392339b8ce7caf08bb4e225277f`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Pi resumed, wrote the verified answer and completed its task; exact runner suspension was proven, but idle stop consumed about 5.2s and left under 3s for the drain acknowledgement. The Pi-only default shutdown grace is now 15s, preserving a full 5s drain round trip and a finite suspension reserve. Explicit caller deadlines, other provider defaults, literal drain receipts and exact suspension identity checks remain unchanged. The timing regression fails before this correction and passes afterward; all 18 focused settlement tests and Runner typecheck pass. The final-source file attempt is also preserved as failed (`candidate_failure`), archive SHA-256 `db6767b6773ea618997927ac77bdb005a5ac81492c7b9c0ffbc900449f829bc9`. Native edit, validation, exact downloadable artifact and Done/succeeded all passed, and the exact final reply was durably recorded. A workspace recovery owner completed before the live heartbeat reached presentation, leaving that reply absent from task chat. Recovery now materializes only a completed final reply from the accepted turn of an ordinary internal Done task, preserving issue/run/contract binding, suppression, external-chat authorization and same-run deduplication. The database regression covers the generated file-preparation receipt, suppression, unapproved external continuation and replay. Server typecheck and all 49 response-selection tests pass; hosted Linux verifies the database regression because embedded PostgreSQL cannot start on this Mac. The delayed-final-answer database regression passes on [the final root-source Linux server shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868262553/job/113628594152), alongside 1,108 passing tests. The first root Runner shard had one unchanged durable-resume test exceed its 5-second timeout; the identical top-source shard and the isolated exact test passed. One rerun of that failed job and its required aggregate passed without source or test changes. The original failed job log and the single-rerun receipt remain retained. ### October 9 merge verification Current merge head: `5a8fe63512a7166aaef5cf50065a25008aa8b44b`. All current-head checks pass, including `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Current master conflicts are resolved. The user authorized the maintainer override of the code-owner review gate after these checks. The seven retained live core cases remain bound to source `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401` and its recorded cloud image. ## Risks - The security correction changes the dependency closure and profile identity. Old sessions must reopen on the new profile. Exact identities and credential bindings fail closed. - The runner remains experimental and requires explicit selection. Legacy Pi Local is unchanged. Caller model IDs pass through; the E2E model is a fixture. - Accounting and the broad platform/provider matrix remain deferred. This merge does not publish a release or deploy a service. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with reasoning, repository inspection, editing and tool use. The exact serving ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Final live qualification uses Pi 1.0.0 with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): keep the rich editor available for angle-bracket prose (#12290)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work
> - People use the rich markdown editor to write task descriptions,
comments, and agent instructions
> - The editor disables HTML processing, but the markdown parser still
treats some angle-bracket text as HTML
> - A value such as `<name>` could therefore stop the rich editor and
show the raw-source fallback
> - The retry action used the same input, so it could not recover
> - This pull request escapes unsupported angle brackets only while the
editor processes the value
> - The benefit is that the rich editor works and stored markdown stays
unchanged
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Fixes: #12197
Related prior attempt: #2696
**What happened?**
The rich markdown editor did not start when prose contained a bare angle
bracket, such as `<name>`. It showed the raw-source fallback. The retry
action repeated the same failure.
**Expected behavior**
The rich editor starts for normal prose. It stores the text in its clean
form because agent prompts can use this text.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open a task description, comment, or other field that uses the rich
markdown editor.
2. Enter `Rename <name> to the real name`.
3. Reload the field.
4. Observe the raw-source fallback.

fix(ui): keep slash autocomplete scrollable in dialogs (#11222)
<!-- Write all pull request text in Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, one instruction per sentence, simple approved vocabulary, and the active voice. --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps operators manage AI-agent companies. > - Operators create tasks and comments through shared rich-text editors. > - These editors show slash-command and mention matches in a floating menu. > - Modal dialogs treat that body-level menu as outside content and cancel its wheel and touch movement. > - This pull request keeps scroll events inside the floating menu and preserves native scrolling. > - The benefit is that operators can reach every match with a mouse wheel, a trackpad, or a touch screen. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this bug. **What happened?** Slash-command and mention menus could contain more matches than their visible height. When an editor was inside a modal dialog, the modal scroll lock canceled wheel and touch movement on the body-level menu portal. Operators could not scroll to later matches. **Expected behavior** The autocomplete menu must scroll with a mouse wheel, a two-finger trackpad gesture, and a vertical touch gesture. Keyboard selection and normal editor behavior must stay unchanged. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task or comment editor inside a modal dialog. 2. Enter a slash command or mention query that has more matches than the menu can show. 3. Try to scroll the menu with a wheel, trackpad, or touch gesture. **Paperclip version or commit** `7ea2068ef8` on `master`. **Deployment mode** Local development UI built from source. ## What Changed - Keep wheel and touch movement inside the shared autocomplete menu portal. - Add vertical overscroll containment while preserving native momentum scrolling. - Add a regression test that mounts the real dialog and verifies that wheel and touch movement stay uncanceled. ## Verification - `pnpm --dir ui exec vitest run src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `env -u AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID -u AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY pnpm test:run` - `pnpm build` The two AWS variables are omitted from the full test command because this agent runtime injects static AWS credentials. One unrelated CLI doctor test correctly warns when those credentials are present. The CI environment does not inject them. ## Risks - Low risk. Event propagation stops only on the open autocomplete menu portal. - Ancestor listeners no longer receive wheel or touch movement from that menu. Native menu scrolling and option-level touch handling still receive the events. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with model ID `gpt-5`. The deployment suffix and context-window size are not exposed to the agent. The model used agentic reasoning, repository tools, GitHub tools, and local code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): chat-style tasks polish — rich-text composer, attachment chips, live-turn interstitials, mobile layout (#10707)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators talk to their agents on the issue detail page. An experimental "Chat-Style Tasks" view (#10606) makes that page read as a conversation instead of a ticket form. > - The first release of that view shipped with a plain-text composer, no visible narration while an agent works, and a desktop-only layout. > - Users write formatted replies, paste screenshots, and follow long agent runs from their phones. The experimental view should support all of that before it can graduate. > - This pull request is the next iteration of the same experiment: a rich-text composer with attachments, live-turn narration on the status line, cleaner settled-turn history, and a mobile layout. > - The benefit is a chat view that feels alive while the agent works and stays readable after it finishes, on desktop and mobile, still fully behind the existing opt-in flag. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #49 (chat with agents is a much-wanted feature). Refs #10606 (the merged first release of the experimental chat-style task view; this PR iterates on it). Related PRs found in the dedup search: - #8228 — open PR that polishes the classic issue chat composer. It targets the flag-off legacy path; this PR only changes the flag-on experimental view. - #10466 — merged blockquote-recovery fix in the shared MarkdownEditor. This PR now reuses that editor inside the chat composer. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The experimental "Chat-Style Tasks" view on the issue detail page (Settings → Experimental, `enableTaskChatRedesign`, default off). **Subsystem affected** UI (issue detail page, chat-style task view). **Current behavior** With the experiment enabled, the composer is a plain textarea with no formatting, no attachment preview, and no mention support. While an agent runs, the status line shows only a static label, and the agent's narration text is hidden. Finished runs render one settled row per turn, so a run with many short turns produces a long list of near-duplicate "Worked" rows, and turns without a comment append at the bottom out of order. On mobile, the desktop bounded-height thread makes the page scroll poorly. **Proposed behavior** The composer uses the shared MarkdownEditor: markdown formatting, mentions, image paste with thumbnail previews, and non-image attachment chips. Sending posts on Cmd/Ctrl+Enter. While an agent runs, the status line rotates playful status words and surfaces the agent's own narration as short interstitial updates: each update holds for a minimum dwell, is replaced only when superseded, and slides through a one-line viewport with tokenized motion. Back-to-back settled turns coalesce into one "Worked" row with summed durations and re-derived tool counts, and comment-less settled turns insert chronologically at their run's start time. On mobile, the thread renders in the document flow with window auto-follow and a sticky safe-area composer; the desktop layout is unchanged. **Reason and benefit** The chat view is only convincing if it feels like a conversation with a working agent. Rich text and screenshots are table stakes for chat input. Live narration gives moment-to-moment feedback without opening transcripts. Coalesced history keeps long-running tasks readable. Mobile support lets operators follow runs away from their desks. **Breaking changes** None. Every change is gated behind the existing `enableTaskChatRedesign` flag, which is off by default. The flag-off page is unchanged. ## What Changed - `TaskChatComposer` swaps its textarea for the shared `MarkdownEditor`: markdown formatting, mentions, image paste with object-URL thumbnail previews (revoked on clear and unmount), and posting on Cmd/Ctrl+Enter. - Non-image attachments render as chips on a new shared `ui/attachment.tsx` primitive (adds the `@base-ui/react` dependency it builds on). - New `status-whimsy.ts`: deterministic rotation of playful status words on the live status line. - Live interstitial narration: the transcript adapter tags agent self-talk, and the live status line shows it as ephemeral one-line updates with a ~4s minimum dwell, hold-until-superseded replacement, and a slide transition driven by new `--motion-line-scroll` tokens (cataloged in `motion-tokens.ts`, which a test keeps 1:1 with `index.css`). Hover affordance applies only to the status line, with no leading icon. - Settled-turn history: `coalesceSettledTurns` merges back-to-back settled agent turns into one "Worked" row (summed per-run durations, tool counts re-derived from the merged turn); `assembleThreadItems` inserts comment-less settled turns chronologically at run start instead of appending them at the bottom; settled turns render tool rows only (the separate thinking block component is removed). - The "Worked" summary attaches to the reply timestamp row, and thread timestamps are always visible. - Mobile layout: the thread renders with `scroll={false}` in the page scroll, a new `useWindowAutoFollow` hook keeps the window pinned to new content, the composer is sticky with safe-area padding, and the editor uses 16px text so iOS does not zoom on focus. The desktop bounded chain is untouched. - New `TaskChatDescriptionBubble` renders the issue description as the first chat bubble, and `McpIcon` gives MCP tools a distinct icon. - `IssueDetail.test.tsx` stubs `TaskChatThread`: the composer's `@mdxeditor` dependency cannot load under jsdom's CSSOM, and the suite exercises the flag-off path. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 CLEAN. - `node scripts/check-task-chat-motion.mjs` — OK (30 files scanned, seams present). - `cd ui && npx tsc -b` — clean. - `cd ui && pnpm vitest run` — 3,482 of 3,483 tests pass locally. The one failure is the `IssueProperties.test.tsx` monitor-row time-formatting test, which is timezone-sensitive: it fails identically on unmodified `origin/master` in a non-UTC timezone and passes with `TZ=UTC`. It is not related to this change. - Manual: enable "Chat-Style Tasks" in Settings → Experimental and open an issue with an assigned agent. Comment to start a run: the status line rotates status words and shows the agent's narration as short held updates. After the run, consecutive turns fold into one "Worked" row under the reply timestamp. Paste an image into the composer to see a thumbnail chip; attach a non-image file to see a file chip; send with Cmd+Enter. Open the same issue in a narrow viewport to see the document-flow layout with the sticky composer. - Visual snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated: per `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`, "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". ## Risks - The composer now loads the shared MarkdownEditor inside the chat view. The editor is already used across the app (issue descriptions, comments), so its behavior is well exercised; composer-specific handling (paste, attachments, submit keys) is covered by new tests. - The transcript adapter changes how live narration and settled turns are derived from run logs. Malformed or legacy logs degrade to generic rows rather than crashing, and the adapter suites cover the merge and ordering rules. - Object URLs for paste previews are revoked on send-clear and unmount to avoid leaks; jsdom environments without `URL.createObjectURL` are guarded. - All changes are behind the default-off `enableTaskChatRedesign` flag. Overall risk with the flag off is low. ## Model Used - Claude (Anthropic), model id `claude-fable-5` (Claude Fable 5), extended thinking enabled, agentic tool use (file editing, shell, test execution) via Claude Code / Claude Agent SDK. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): recover blockquotes the markdown editor escaped as backslash-gt (#10466)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The web UI uses one shared markdown editor for comments, issue descriptions, and documents. > - Users type `>` at the start of a line to insert a blockquote. > - The live editor shortcut does not always run in every browser and input method. > - The markdown exporter then changes the leading `>` to `\>` and saves literal text. > - The saved text does not render as a blockquote. > - This pull request restores the blockquote marker when markdown enters or leaves the editor. > - The benefit is reliable blockquote insertion on every surface that uses the shared editor. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists. Related prior attempt: #10465. **What happened?** The shared markdown editor sometimes saved a blockquote as literal text. This happened when the live shortcut did not run. The exporter saved `\> text`, which rendered as literal `> text`. **Expected behavior** A line that starts with `>` must render as a blockquote in comments, issue descriptions, and documents. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task comment composer, description editor, or document editor. 2. Add `> ` to an existing line, or use an input method that does not run the live shortcut. 3. Save the content. 4. Observe that the saved line renders as literal text instead of a blockquote. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `78f8c6c3d4`. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server. ## What Changed - Add `unescapeBlockquoteMarkers()` to restore block-level `\>` markers. - Keep indented code, list content, nested content, and fenced code unchanged. - Apply the helper when markdown enters and leaves `MarkdownEditor`. - Add focused tests for line position, indentation, container prefixes, and CommonMark fence rules. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/lib/blockquote-markdown.test.ts` passes with 22 tests. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx` passes with 37 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passes. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passes. - A browser harness used the real `MarkdownEditor` and `IssueChatThread` composer. It confirmed that `> text` renders as a blockquote and exports as `> text`. - The [Cutter preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/10466#issuecomment-5140558263) supplies a task-page screenshot and an editor interaction video. ## Risks - Low risk. The helper returns the input unchanged when it contains no `\>`. - A paragraph that deliberately starts with literal `\>` now becomes a blockquote. The editor has no literal-marker control, so this matches the available input behavior. - There are no database, API, or migration changes. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(ui): stop recreating markdown mention observers (#3809)
Fixes #3759 ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents and issue workflows, so the comment composer has to stay stable under normal typing. > - The affected subsystem is the shared markdown comment editor used across issue and workflow surfaces. > - That editor decorates mention links after Lexical updates the editable DOM. > - The current mention decoration effect recreates its `MutationObserver` whenever `value` changes, which happens on every keystroke. > - That observer also reacts to the DOM mutations produced by mention decoration itself, creating unnecessary observer churn in Chrome. > - This pull request keeps one observer instance alive, batches decoration work into `requestAnimationFrame`, and disconnects the observer while decoration writes run. > - The benefit is lower observer churn while preserving the existing mention chip behavior. ## What Changed - Removed `value` from the mention-decoration observer effect dependency list so the observer is not recreated on every external value update. - Batched mention decoration with `requestAnimationFrame` and temporarily disconnected the observer while DOM decorations are applied to avoid self-triggered feedback loops. - Added a regression test that verifies external value changes do not recreate the mention decoration observer. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec tsc --noEmit` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx` currently fails before test collection on the existing repo baseline with `TypeError: undefined is not an object (evaluating 'z.string')` from `packages/shared/src/adapter-type.ts` ## Risks - Low risk. The change is scoped to the mention decoration observer lifecycle and keeps the existing decoration logic intact. - The main behavior change is deferring decoration to the next animation frame instead of running immediately on every observed mutation. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent with local tool use in the Codex CLI environment. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets, agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind > - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at ~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no visual regression coverage > - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration > - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs > - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface: retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed visually without committing hundreds of PNGs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens", "visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of the same problem class this PR addresses systematically). **Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage; consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file edits. **Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate + externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle on top of that foundation. ## What Changed - **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved ~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`. - **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255 stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`, plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes. - **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed. `tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs` handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload` flows. - **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`, downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate baseline objects. - **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**` and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate opt-outs. - **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` + Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps. - **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills, RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical `--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces that used dark-tuned text classes. - **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form, second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified. - **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline review/update workflows. - Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames (`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`). ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system run - `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green during the design-system run - `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` — pass after external-baseline rework - `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext --moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after external-baseline rework - `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline rework - `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` — `0` - `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json` ## Risks - **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot churn has been removed from the branch. - **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata. A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then update `baseline-manifest.json`. - **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count mismatch. - **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual` label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable Playwright report/test-result artifacts. - **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository, terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run targeted local verification and documented the intentional baseline-publication failure above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green *(pending new CI run after this rework)* - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups *(pending review)* - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and OpenAI Codex --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Polish operator issue workflow UI (#9091)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI is where operators create issues, inspect issue-thread decisions, write markdown, and move between issue workflow surfaces. > - A broad recovered branch mixed these operator workflow polish fixes with unrelated backend, pipeline, plugin, eval, and work-product changes. > - Reviewers need the operator UI workflow fixes in a small PR that can be understood without pulling in the rest of that recovery branch. > - This pull request extracts only the issue workflow UI slice: interaction cards, markdown editing fallback behavior, create-issue work mode shortcuts, file-viewer URL handling, and issue navigation scroll behavior. > - The benefit is a lower-risk review path for operator workflow fixes while keeping unrelated execution-workspace and server work out of this PR. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #8866, the closed broad source PR that this focused slice was extracted from. - Related: #8228 is an open UI polish PR, but its file list does not overlap this branch. - Related: #4090 is older merged operator workflow polish context. No public GitHub issue exists for this exact extracted slice. The problem is that several small operator issue-workflow fixes were bundled inside a broad recovery branch, making them hard to review and ship independently. ## What Changed - Removed interaction continuation wake-policy labels from issue-thread interaction card headers and updated the card test/story copy accordingly. - Added a markdown editor error boundary so rich editor render crashes fall back to a raw textarea instead of breaking the compose surface. - Made the create-issue work-mode shortcut accept ctrl-period and iOS hardware-keyboard command-period-as-Escape behavior without dismissing the dialog. - Fixed file-viewer URL navigation to compare against the live browser search string when router state is stale. - Restored scroll reset when navigating from an issue detail route back to the issue index, while preserving browser-history restoration behavior. ## Screenshots Before removing the continuation wake-policy badge from interaction card headers: After removing the wake-policy badge: ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueThreadInteractionCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx ui/src/context/FileViewerContext.test.ts ui/src/lib/navigation-scroll.test.ts` — 5 files, 102 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - `git diff --check` — passed. ## Risks Low risk. The PR is limited to UI workflow components/helpers and their tests. Main behavioral risks are keyboard shortcut edge cases across browsers and fallback editor rendering, both covered by focused tests. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent (`gpt-5` family; exact served variant and context window are not exposed in this runtime), with terminal, Git, GitHub, and test execution tools.

Add pipeline workflow primitives and operator UI (#7903)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The pipeline subsystem models repeatable work as items moving through stages, with agent automation, review gates, blockers, drift notices, and linked work. > - Operators need this to be usable as one coherent workflow surface, not just as backend primitives or disconnected route experiments. > - The branch now carries the pipeline data model, service/routes, CLI/tutorial path, aggregation feeds, operator UI, stage automation controls, liveness/retry handling, and follow-up polish that make the primitive reviewable end to end. > - This pull request is the single review target for that pipeline workflow primitive stack. > - The benefit is that reviewers can evaluate the full operator experience and server contract together against `master`. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this work. The underlying feature request is described inline. ### Problem or motivation Paperclip needs a first-class way to model multi-stage agent/company workflows where upstream items can spawn downstream work, request review, carry fields across pipelines, surface drift, retry automation, and show operators where work is blocked or active. Without a unified pipeline primitive, these workflows spread across ad hoc issues, routines, and comments, making the state hard to inspect or operate. ### Proposed solution Add the pipeline workflow primitive stack: database schema and migrations, shared validators/types, server services and REST routes, aggregation and liveness helpers, CLI/tutorial smoke support, and the React operator UI for pipeline lists, boards, item detail, review/learnings views, settings, stage automation, secrets, carry-over fields, and retry/recovery flows. ### Alternatives considered - Keep workflows as loosely linked issues and routines: rejected because operators need a single board/detail/settings surface for repeated workflow patterns. - Ship backend primitives first and defer UI: rejected for this branch because the operator experience is the main way to validate the primitive. - Add a narrower one-off content workflow: rejected because the same primitives are useful across future company processes. ## What Changed - Added and evolved pipeline schema, migrations, shared contracts, server services, REST routes, route tests, and CLI/tutorial smoke support. - Added pipeline aggregation, health/liveness, drift acknowledgment, blocker/carry-over, automation retry, stage automation environment, and permission recovery behavior. - Added the operator UI for pipeline index/board/item detail/settings/review/learnings flows, including stage secrets, automation controls, markdown/item descriptions, linked issue assets, liveness banners, and source automation metadata. - Refactored issue document frame rendering through the shared `DocumentFrameHeader` component to keep document controls consistent with the pipeline document surfaces. - Kept this PR as the single base-branch review target for the current pipeline branch. ## Verification Current branch refresh: - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/pipelines-service.test.ts` — 31 passed - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/pipelines-routes.test.ts` — 19 passed - `pnpm --filter ./server typecheck` — passed - `pnpm --filter ./ui typecheck` — passed - Verified Pipelines remains gated by `enablePipelines === true`: sidebar item is hidden unless the flag is enabled, direct pipeline routes redirect to `/dashboard` when disabled, and the Experimental settings UI still has no Pipelines toggle. - GitHub status checks on `df071c710646de625131064c3fb6588b5e97964a` — all complete with no failing conclusions, including Actions, Socket, Superagent/Security, and Greptile Review - Greptile summary on `df071c710646de625131064c3fb6588b5e97964a` — Confidence Score 5/5 - GitHub review-thread sweep — 0 unresolved Greptile threads Previously recorded during branch development: - Server pipeline service/route and aggregation tests - Shared validator tests - UI pipeline page/settings/item-detail/learnings/liveness tests - Pipeline tutorial smoke path ## Risks - High review surface: this is a large feature branch spanning database, shared contracts, server behavior, CLI/docs, and UI. - Migration ordering and schema compatibility need reviewer attention because this branch has been kept current across multiple `master` syncs. - GitHub still reports merge state `BLOCKED` because the PR is awaiting normal human review/branch-protection completion; all current status checks are green. - Branch-name checklist exception: this PR uses the pre-existing requested branch name, which predates the current public-branch naming rule. The PR title/body avoid internal issue references. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, with repository tool use, shell execution, git/GitHub CLI operations, and local verification commands. Earlier commits in this branch were assisted by Paperclip agents and other AI coding agents as recorded in commit authorship. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): NUX rework behind enableConferenceRoomChat experimental flag — capsule onboarding, conference-room chat, unified composer (#8000)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The first-run experience (onboarding wizard) and the chat surfaces
(conference-room/board chat, task threads, composers) are the product's
front door — they decide whether a new operator understands "hire
agents, give them work, review results" in the first five minutes
> - Today those surfaces feel ticket-y and form-like: the wizard is a
static multi-step form that ends in an anticlimactic "Launch" screen,
the task composer and board chat behave differently from each other, and
agent-feed issue quicklooks misbehave (multiple flyouts open at once,
cards jump on hover)
> - We wanted to iterate toward a conversational, team-centric NUX — but
without risking the workflows of everyone already running Paperclip
> - This PR reworks the NUX behind a new default-OFF
`enableConferenceRoomChat` experimental flag: a capsule-motif onboarding
wizard that builds your team as you answer, a conference-room chat
surface, one shared ChatComposer across surfaces, brand-accurate status
chips, and feed-quicklook fixes — with the pre-existing UI
fork-and-frozen as `*Classic` components that flag-OFF users keep
> - The benefit is a complete, testable modern NUX that anyone can opt
into from Settings → Experimental, with zero default behavior change and
a clean path to either graduate or drop the experiment
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No pre-existing GitHub issue — feature description per
`feature_request.yml`:
- **Problem / motivation:** Paperclip's onboarding wizard and chat
surfaces grew up as separate ticket-centric forms. New users get a
form-filling experience rather than the feeling of standing up a team;
the board chat and task threads use different composers with different
affordances; the agent feed's issue quicklook can stack multiple
popovers and shifts cards on hover.
- **Proposed solution:** A coherent NUX experiment behind one
experimental flag (`enableConferenceRoomChat`, Settings → Experimental,
default OFF): capsule onboarding wizard with an evolving team capsule,
conference-room chat, unified `ChatComposer`, team-centric copy, brand
status chips, quicklook single-flight fix. Flag-OFF users get the exact
pre-experiment UI via frozen `*Classic` forks, verified by an on/off
parity test matrix.
- **Alternatives considered:** (a) incremental unflagged restyling —
rejected: the changes interlock across surfaces and would drip risk into
every release; (b) a separate app shell / route for the new NUX —
rejected: too much divergence, the flag + classic-fork pattern keeps the
diff reviewable and reversible.
- **Roadmap alignment:** `ROADMAP.md` lists **CEO Chat** ("a
lighter-weight way to talk to leadership agents... should still resolve
to real work objects"). This experiment is groundwork in that direction
(conference-room chat resolves to issues/tasks via the same composer
used in task threads) and does not change the core task-and-comments
model.
Related PRs found in the dedup search (same area, none duplicate this
work — they target the classic wizard, which this PR intentionally
leaves intact and mergeable):
- #5385 — Coach-driven onboarding: conversational entry +
agent-companies package import
- #5378 — Onboarding wizard: reusable adapter picker + probe card
- #6636 — ui(onboarding): friendly error surface + retry for the wizard
- #7005 — fix(onboarding): explicitly await first-task wake
- #2616 — fix: restore workspace directory config in onboarding wizard
## What Changed
- **Experimental flag plumbing** — `enableConferenceRoomChat` in shared
types/validators, server instance-settings service + API, Settings →
Experimental card with explicit enable/disable copy
- **Onboarding wizard** — classic wizard forked and frozen
(`OnboardingWizardClassic`); flag-ON variant is a 5-step capsule wizard
with a persistent evolving `AgentCapsule` (gradient/glow motif),
team-centric reframed copy, and a typing-dots intro (hardened with
fake-timer tests)
- **Conference-room chat** — flag-ON board-chat surface with agent
bubble name/icon headers and copy/vote/timestamp action rows
(`AgentBubbleActionRow`)
- **Unified composer** — shared `ChatComposer` adopted across surfaces;
translucent surface + scroll-mask removal; "Agent mode"/"Plan mode"
relabels; no-assignee confirmation `AlertDialog` (new
`ui/alert-dialog.tsx` primitive); `@task` reference picker +
linkification in mentions
- **Agent feed** — single-flight issue-quicklook store (one popover at a
time), flyouts open to the left, removed hover translate-y jitter
- **Status chips** — brand-accurate task status chips behind the flag
(light/dark, 1px borders per paperclip.ing/brand)
- **Tests** — flag on/off parity matrix across IssueDetail,
NewIssueDialog, Sidebar, wizard, gate components; component tests for
all new pieces
- **Merge with `master`** — one conflict in
`ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.tsx`, resolved by keeping master's
new `AssigneeChip`/`HandoffWakeRow`/`RunStatusBadge` components inside
the flag-gated metadata-row chrome (details in commit `21a5642a`);
post-merge fixes: vitest 4 mock typing in `MarkdownEditor.test.tsx`,
flag hook made safe for provider-less mounts (master's new isolated
component tests)
- **Branch hygiene** — internal design wireframes/mockups stripped
before the PR (they live in the Paperclip issue threads)
- No user-facing documentation changes required: the flag is
intentionally experimental and self-described in the Settings card; no
existing docs reference the affected surfaces
## Verification
- `pnpm run typecheck` — green across the workspace (ui, server, shared,
plugins)
- Full UI suite (`vitest run` in `ui/`, clean worktree at this HEAD):
**1593/1595 passing, 223/224 files** — the 2 remaining failures are in
`src/components/artifacts/ArtifactCard.test.tsx` and **fail identically
on pristine `origin/master`** (pre-existing upstream, unrelated to this
branch)
- Full server suite (`vitest run` in `server/`, same clean worktree):
results in PR checks; flag plumbing covered by instance-settings tests
- Targeted post-merge resolution check: `IssueChatThread`,
`IssueChatThreadSystemNotice`, `IssueDetail`, `Sidebar`,
`ConferenceRoomChatGate`, `OnboardingWizardVariant`, `NewIssueDialog`,
`InstanceExperimentalSettings`, `MarkdownEditor` — 172/172 passing
- Manual walkthrough: flag OFF (default) → onboarding wizard, task
thread, board chat, composer all render the classic UI; flag ON via
Settings → Experimental → capsule wizard, conference-room chat, unified
composer, status chips active
- Screenshots: see below
**Flag on/off screenshots** (committed on this branch under
`screenshots/PR-8000-*`):
| Surface | Flag OFF (classic, default) | Flag ON (experimental) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Settings → Experimental |
|
|
| Task thread |
|
|
| Home / nav |
|
|
| Conference Room (flag-ON only surface) | — |
|
Capsule onboarding wizard walkthrough screenshots (flag ON) are attached
to the Paperclip design/implementation threads; the wizard requires a
fresh instance so it is captured via the e2e harness
(`tests/e2e/nux-phase4-screenshots.spec.ts`).
## Risks
- **Large surface, but gated:** all new behavior sits behind
`enableConferenceRoomChat`, default OFF; flag-OFF rendering is locked by
frozen `*Classic` forks plus an on/off parity test suite
- **Classic forks are frozen at the fork point (`e3aada1d`):** master
features added to the live thread component after that point (assignee
handoff chips, run status badge, composer mention coach) render in the
flag-ON path; the flag-OFF task thread keeps the fork-point behavior
until the experiment graduates (forks deleted) or is dropped (forks
restored as canonical). Called out for reviewer attention.
- **Merge-conflict resolution in `IssueChatThread.tsx`** (commit
`21a5642a`) deserves reviewer eyes: master's new handoff/run-status
components were kept; the base toast-style no-assignee flow remains
replaced by the AlertDialog flow introduced on this branch
- Schema/server changes are additive (one optional boolean instance
setting); no migrations of existing data
## Model Used
- Claude (Anthropic) via Claude Code running in the Paperclip agent
harness (agent: ClaudeCoder)
- Branch implemented across multiple agent sessions on Claude Opus-class
models with extended thinking + tool use (file edits, shell, Playwright
screenshots); merge/PR session model ID as reported by the harness:
`claude-fable-5` (Claude Code CLI)
- All code was agent-authored and board-reviewed through Paperclip issue
threads (plans, wireframes, confirmations) before merging

[codex] UI and dev ops quality-of-life (#6384)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip operators spend most of their time scanning the board, inbox, sidebar, and local dev status surfaces > - Small UI and dev-ops frictions make repeated operator workflows feel slower than they need to be > - The working branch contained several independent quality-of-life improvements mixed with larger cloud work > - Grouping these smaller UI/dev-ops changes together keeps review overhead reasonable without merging them into feature PRs > - This pull request collects the operator-facing QoL polish into one standalone branch > - The benefit is a cleaner board navigation and local dev recovery experience without depending on cloud upstream sync ## What Changed - Relaxed forced 44px touch targets for small inline widgets. - Fixed mobile mention menu scrolling and sidebar spacing on touch/mobile layouts. - Synced inbox hover state with j/k selection. - Moved plugin sidebar entries into the Work section. - Added manual dev-server restart action/banner behavior. - Logged plugin bridge 502 causes for better diagnosis. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk build` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx ui/src/components/DevRestartBanner.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/dev-server-status.test.ts server/src/__tests__/health-dev-server-token.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` initially failed only because plugin SDK `dist` was not built in the fresh worktree. - Rerun after build: `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` passed. - The remaining targeted UI/dev-server tests passed on the first post-install run. ## Visual Evidence - Sidebar layout and plugin Work section: - Inbox/task row selection and hover-state surface: - Dev restart banner desktop: - Dev restart banner mobile: ## Risks - Mostly UI/dev ergonomics with low data risk. - Sidebar and inbox changes touch frequently used navigation surfaces, so visual review on desktop/mobile is still useful. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. [codex] Fix new issue autocomplete pointer selection (#6311)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - Human operators create and edit issues through modal-heavy board UI workflows. > - The new-issue dialog embeds markdown editors that render autocomplete menus through body-level portals. > - Radix Dialog treats those portal clicks as outside-dialog pointer events and prevents their default behavior. > - That prevention made completion items hard or impossible to select from inside the new-issue dialog. > - This pull request marks the markdown editor floating autocomplete menu as allowed dialog-external UI and extends the dialog outside-pointer handler to preserve those interactions. > - The benefit is that users can click/tap autocomplete completions while keeping the existing modal behavior intact. ## What Changed - Added a stable `data-paperclip-floating-ui` marker and explicit pointer event handling to the markdown editor mention/autocomplete portal. - Updated the new issue dialog outside-pointer guard so editor autocomplete portals are handled like Radix popover portals. - Added regression coverage for markdown editor portal markup and new issue dialog completion selection behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx` passed: 2 files, 38 tests. - Confirmed the branch is rebased onto current `public-gh/master` before opening this PR. - Confirmed the diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Low risk. The change is scoped to allowing pointer events from known body-level UI portals while keeping other outside-dialog pointer events under Radix Dialog control. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent with repository tool use and local command execution. Exact hosted context window is not surfaced in this runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Screenshot note: this is an interaction/event-handling fix with no visible UI change; verification is covered by the focused regression tests above. [codex] Roll up May 17 branch changes (#6210)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies, so agent work needs visible ownership, recovery, and operator controls. > - This local branch had accumulated several related control-plane reliability and operator-experience fixes across recovery actions, watchdog folding, model-profile defaults, mentions, markdown editing, plugin launchers, and small UI polish. > - The branch needed to be converted into a PR against the current `origin/master` without losing dirty work or including lockfile/workflow churn. > - The safest standalone shape is a single rollup PR because the recovery/server/UI files overlap heavily across the local commits and splitting would create avoidable conflicts. > - This pull request replays the local branch onto latest `origin/master`, preserves the uncommitted work as logical commits, and adds a Zod 4 validator compatibility fix found during verification. > - The benefit is that the May 17 local branch can be reviewed and merged as one coherent, conflict-free branch under the 100-file Greptile limit. ## What Changed - Rebased the local May 17 branch work onto current `origin/master` in a dedicated worktree. - Preserved and committed previously dirty changes for recovery retry handling, plugin/sidebar launcher polish, and `.herenow` ignores. - Added recovery-action behavior for returning source issues to `todo` when retrying source-scoped recovery. - Included the existing local recovery/liveness/watchdog fold, Codex cheap-profile, markdown/mention, duplicate-agent, and UI polish commits from the branch. - Normalized shared validator `z.record(...)` schemas to explicit string-key records for Zod 4 compatibility. - Confirmed the PR has no `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows/*` changes and stays below the 100-file Greptile limit. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `npm run install` in `node_modules/.pnpm/sqlite3@5.1.7/node_modules/sqlite3` to build the local native sqlite3 binding after installing with scripts disabled - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/issue.test.ts packages/shared/src/project-mentions.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-model-profile.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-recovery-actions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-local-folders.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueRecoveryActionCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/lib/duplicate-agent-payload.test.ts ui/src/pages/Routines.test.tsx` - First pass: 13 files passed with 201 passing tests; 3 server files failed before sqlite3 native binding was built. - After rebuilding sqlite3: `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-model-profile.test.ts`, `server/src/__tests__/issue-recovery-actions.test.ts`, and `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts` passed/loaded; embedded Postgres tests were skipped by the local host guard. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` ## Risks - Medium risk: this is a broad rollup PR across recovery semantics, server tests, shared validators, and UI surfaces. - Some embedded Postgres tests skipped locally due the host guard, so CI should provide the stronger database-backed signal. - UI changes were covered by component tests, but no browser screenshot was captured in this PR creation pass. - This branch may overlap with existing recovery/liveness PR work; merge this PR independently or restack/close overlapping branches rather than merging duplicate implementations together. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Improve issue thread scale and markdown polish (#4861)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip's board UI is the operator surface for supervising AI-agent companies. > - Issue threads are where operators read progress, respond to agents, inspect markdown, and jump through long histories. > - Large threads and rich markdown had become difficult to navigate and expensive to render. > - The previous rollup mixed these UI scale fixes with unrelated backend recovery, costs, backups, and settings changes. > - This pull request isolates the issue-thread scale and markdown polish work. > - The benefit is a reviewable UI slice that can merge independently of the backend reliability, database backup, workflow, and board QoL PRs. ## What Changed - Virtualized long issue chat threads and stabilized anchor/jump-to-latest behavior for large histories. - Added incremental issue-list row loading and tests for scroll-triggered pagination behavior. - Hardened markdown body rendering and markdown editor behavior around HTML tags, image drops, code-copy UI, and escaped newline handling. - Added a long-thread measurement harness at `scripts/measure-issue-chat-long-thread.mjs` plus `perf:issue-chat-long-thread`. - Added focused UI/lib regression coverage for thread rendering, markdown, optimistic comments, and message building. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/lib/optimistic-issue-comments.test.ts` - Result: 6 test files passed, 170 tests passed. - UI screenshots not included because this PR is covered by targeted component tests and does not introduce a new page layout. ## Risks - Virtualization changes can affect scroll anchoring in edge cases on very long threads. - Markdown/editor hardening changes are intentionally defensive, but malformed content may render differently than before. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] Polish issue composer and long document display (#4420)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Issue comments and documents are the main working surface where operators and agents collaborate > - File drops, markdown editing, and long issue descriptions need to feel predictable because they sit directly in the task execution loop > - The composer had edge cases around drag targets, attachment feedback, image drops, and long markdown content crowding the page > - This pull request polishes the issue composer, hardens markdown editor regressions, and adds a fold curtain for long issue descriptions/documents > - The benefit is a calmer issue detail surface that handles uploads and long work products without hiding state or breaking layout ## What Changed - Scoped issue-composer drag/drop behavior so the composer owns file drops without turning the whole thread into a competing drop target. - Added clearer attachment upload feedback for non-image files and image-drop stability coverage. - Hardened markdown editor and markdown body handling around HTML-like tag regressions. - Added `FoldCurtain` and wired it into issue descriptions and issue documents so long markdown previews can expand/collapse. - Added Storybook coverage for the fold curtain state. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx --config ui/vitest.config.ts` passed: 3 files, 75 tests. - `git diff --check public-gh/master..pap-2228-editor-composer-polish -- . ':(exclude)ui/storybook-static'` passed. - Confirmed this PR does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Risks - Low-to-medium risk: this changes user-facing composer/drop behavior and long markdown display. - The fold curtain uses DOM measurement and `ResizeObserver`; reviewers should check browser behavior for very long descriptions and documents. - No database migrations. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, with shell, git, Paperclip API, and GitHub CLI tool use in the local Paperclip workspace. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Note: screenshots were not newly captured during branch splitting; the UI states are covered by component tests and a Storybook story. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Add first-class issue references (#4214)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - Operators and agents coordinate through company-scoped issues, comments, documents, and task relationships. > - Issue text can mention other tickets, but those references were previously plain markdown/text without durable relationship data. > - That made it harder to understand related work, surface backlinks, and keep cross-ticket context visible in the board. > - This pull request adds first-class issue reference extraction, storage, API responses, and UI surfaces. > - The benefit is that issue references become queryable, navigable, and visible without relying on ad hoc text scanning. ## What Changed - Added shared issue-reference parsing utilities and exported reference-related types/constants. - Added an `issue_reference_mentions` table, idempotent migration DDL, schema exports, and database documentation. - Added server-side issue reference services, route integration, activity summaries, and a backfill command for existing issue content. - Added UI reference pills, related-work panels, markdown/editor mention handling, and issue detail/property rendering updates. - Added focused shared, server, and UI tests for parsing, persistence, display, and related-work behavior. - Rebased `PAP-735-first-class-task-references` cleanly onto `public-gh/master`; no `pnpm-lock.yaml` changes are included. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run packages/shared/src/issue-references.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-references-service.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueRelatedWorkPanel.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx` ## Risks - Medium risk because this adds a new issue-reference persistence path that touches shared parsing, database schema, server routes, and UI rendering. - Migration risk is mitigated by `CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS`, guarded foreign-key creation, and `CREATE INDEX IF NOT EXISTS` statements so users who have applied an older local version of the numbered migration can re-run safely. - UI risk is limited by focused component coverage, but reviewers should still manually inspect issue detail pages containing ticket references before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] add comprehensive UI Storybook coverage (#4132)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - The board UI is the main operator surface, so its component and workflow coverage needs to stay reviewable as the product grows. > - This branch adds Storybook as a dedicated UI reference surface for core Paperclip screens and interaction patterns. > - That work spans Storybook infrastructure, app-level provider wiring, and a large fixture set that can render real control-plane states without a live backend. > - The branch also expands coverage across agents, budgets, issues, chat, dialogs, navigation, projects, and data visualization so future UI changes have a concrete visual baseline. > - This pull request packages that Storybook work on top of the latest `master`, excludes the lockfile from the final diff per repo policy, and fixes one fixture contract drift caught during verification. > - The benefit is a single reviewable PR that adds broad UI documentation and regression-surfacing coverage without losing the existing branch work. ## What Changed - Added Storybook 10 wiring for the UI package, including root scripts, UI package scripts, Storybook config, preview wrappers, Tailwind entrypoints, and setup docs. - Added a large fixture-backed data source for Storybook so complex board states can render without a live server. - Added story suites covering foundations, status language, control-plane surfaces, overview, UX labs, agent management, budget and finance, forms and editors, issue management, navigation and layout, chat and comments, data visualization, dialogs and modals, and projects/goals/workspaces. - Adjusted several UI components for Storybook parity so dialogs, menus, keyboard shortcuts, budget markers, markdown editing, and related surfaces render correctly in isolation. - Rebasing work for PR assembly: replayed the branch onto current `master`, removed `pnpm-lock.yaml` from the final PR diff, and aligned the dashboard fixture with the current `DashboardSummary.runActivity` API contract. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` - Manual diff audit after rebase: verified the PR no longer includes `pnpm-lock.yaml` and now cleanly targets current `master`. - Before/after UI note: before this branch there was no dedicated Storybook surface for these Paperclip views; after this branch the local Storybook build includes the new overview and domain story suites in `ui/storybook-static`. ## Risks - Large static fixture files can drift from shared types as dashboard and UI contracts evolve; this PR already needed one fixture correction for `runActivity`. - Storybook bundle output includes some large chunks, so future growth may need chunking work if build performance becomes an issue. - Several component tweaks were made for isolated rendering parity, so reviewers should spot-check key board surfaces against the live app behavior. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent in the Paperclip harness; exact serving model ID is not exposed in-runtime to the agent. - Tool-assisted workflow with terminal execution, git operations, local typecheck/build verification, and GitHub CLI PR creation. - Context window/reasoning mode not surfaced by the harness. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: implement multi-user access and invite flows (#3784)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies. > - V1 needs to stay local-first while also supporting shared, authenticated deployments. > - Human operators need real identities, company membership, invite flows, profile surfaces, and company-scoped access controls. > - Agents and operators also need the existing issue, inbox, workspace, approval, and plugin flows to keep working under those authenticated boundaries. > - This branch accumulated the multi-user implementation, follow-up QA fixes, workspace/runtime refinements, invite UX improvements, release-branch conflict resolution, and review hardening. > - This pull request consolidates that branch onto the current `master` branch as a single reviewable PR. > - The benefit is a complete multi-user implementation path with tests and docs carried forward without dropping existing branch work. ## What Changed - Added authenticated human-user access surfaces: auth/session routes, company user directory, profile settings, company access/member management, join requests, and invite management. - Added invite creation, invite landing, onboarding, logo/branding, invite grants, deduped join requests, and authenticated multi-user E2E coverage. - Tightened company-scoped and instance-admin authorization across board, plugin, adapter, access, issue, and workspace routes. - Added profile-image URL validation hardening, avatar preservation on name-only profile updates, and join-request uniqueness migration cleanup for pending human requests. - Added an atomic member role/status/grants update path so Company Access saves no longer leave partially updated permissions. - Improved issue chat, inbox, assignee identity rendering, sidebar/account/company navigation, workspace routing, and execution workspace reuse behavior for multi-user operation. - Added and updated server/UI tests covering auth, invites, membership, issue workspace inheritance, plugin authz, inbox/chat behavior, and multi-user flows. - Merged current `public-gh/master` into this branch, resolved all conflicts, and verified no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is included in this PR diff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime-service-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-validators.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authz-company-access.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sidebar-preferences-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/approval-routes-idempotency.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openclaw-invite-prompt-route.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-cross-tenant-authz-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-e2e.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyAccess.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm db:generate` - `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts --list` - Confirmed branch has no uncommitted changes and is `0` commits behind `public-gh/master` before PR creation. - Confirmed no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is staged or present in the PR diff. ## Risks - High review surface area: this PR contains the accumulated multi-user branch plus follow-up fixes, so reviewers should focus especially on company-boundary enforcement and authenticated-vs-local deployment behavior. - UI behavior changed across invites, inbox, issue chat, access settings, and sidebar navigation; no browser screenshots are included in this branch-consolidation PR. - Plugin install, upgrade, and lifecycle/config mutations now require instance-admin access, which is intentional but may change expectations for non-admin board users. - A join-request dedupe migration rejects duplicate pending human requests before creating unique indexes; deployments with unusual historical duplicates should review the migration behavior. - Company member role/status/grant saves now use a new combined endpoint; older separate endpoints remain for compatibility. - Full production build was not run locally in this heartbeat; CI should cover the full matrix. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent, GPT-5-based model, CLI/tool-use environment. Exact deployed model identifier and context window were not exposed by the runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Note on screenshots: this is a branch-consolidation PR for an already-developed multi-user branch, and no browser screenshots were captured during this heartbeat. --------- Co-authored-by: dotta <dotta@example.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

[codex] Improve issue detail and issue-list UX (#3678)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - A core part of that is the operator experience around reading issue state, agent chat, and sub-task structure > - The current branch had a long run of issue-detail and issue-list UX fixes that all improve how humans follow and steer active work > - Those changes mostly live in the UI/chat surface and should be reviewed together instead of mixed with workspace/runtime work > - This pull request packages the issue-detail, chat, markdown, and sub-issue list improvements into one standalone change > - The benefit is a cleaner, less jumpy, more reliable issue workflow on desktop and mobile without coupling it to unrelated server/runtime refactors ## What Changed - Stabilized issue chat runtime wiring, optimistic comment handling, queued-comment cancellation, and composer anchoring during live updates - Fixed several issue-detail rendering and navigation regressions including placeholder bleed, local polling scope, mobile inbox-to-issue transitions, and visible refresh resets - Improved markdown and rich-content handling with advisory image normalization, editor fallback behavior, touch mention recovery, and `issue:` quicklook links - Refined sub-issue behavior with parent-derived defaults, current-user inheritance fixes, empty-state cleanup, and a reusable issue-list presentation for sub-issues - Added targeted UI tests for the new issue-detail, chat scroll/message, placeholder-data, markdown, and issue-list behaviors ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.tsx ui/src/lib/issue-chat-messages.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-chat-scroll.test.ts ui/src/lib/issue-detail-subissues.test.ts ui/src/lib/query-placeholder-data.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/usePaperclipIssueRuntime.test.tsx` ## Risks - Medium: this branch touches the highest-traffic issue-detail UI paths, so regressions would show up as chat/thread or sub-issue UX glitches - The changes are UI-heavy and would benefit from reviewer screenshots or a quick manual browser pass before merge ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent (GPT-5-class runtime in Codex CLI; exact deployed model ID is not exposed in this environment), reasoning enabled, tool use and local code execution enabled ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix typing lag in long comment threads (PAPA-63) (#3163)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - The issue detail page displays comment threads with rich timeline rendering > - Long threads (100+ items) cause severe typing lag in the comment composer because every keystroke re-renders the entire timeline > - CDP tracing confirmed 110ms avg key→paint latency and 60 long tasks blocking the main thread for 3.7s total > - This pull request memoizes the timeline, stabilizes callback props, debounces editor observers, and reduces idle polling frequency > - The benefit is responsive typing (21ms avg, 5.3× faster) even on threads with 100+ timeline items ## What Changed - **CommentThread.tsx**: Memoize `TimelineList` with `useMemo` so typing state changes don't re-render 143 timeline items; extract `handleFeedbackVote` to `useCallback`; added missing deps (`pendingApprovalAction`, `onApproveApproval`, `onRejectApproval`) to useMemo array - **IssueDetail.tsx**: Extract inline callbacks (`handleCommentAdd`, `handleCommentVote`, `handleCommentImageUpload`, `handleCommentAttachImage`, `handleInterruptQueued`) to `useCallback` with `.mutateAsync` deps (not full mutation objects) for stable references; add conditional polling intervals (3s active / 30s idle) for `liveRuns`, `activeRun`, `linkedRuns`, and timeline queries - **MarkdownEditor.tsx**: Debounce `MutationObserver` and `selectionchange` handlers via `requestAnimationFrame` coalescing - **LiveRunWidget.tsx**: Accept optional `liveRunsData` and `activeRunData` props to reuse parent-fetched data instead of duplicate polling ## Verification - Navigated to [IP address]:3105/PAPA/issues/PAPA-32 (thread with 100+ items) - Typed in comment composer — lag eliminated, characters appear instantly - CDP trace test script (`test-typing-lag.mjs`) confirmed: avg 21ms key→paint (was 110ms), 5 long tasks (was 60), 0.5s blocking (was 3.7s) - Ran `pnpm test:run` locally — all tests pass ## Risks - Low risk. All changes are additive memoization and callback stabilization — no behavioral changes. Polling intervals are only reduced for idle state; active runs still poll at 3–5s. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 4.6 (`claude-opus-4-6`) via Claude Code CLI, with tool use and extended context ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: autoformat pasted markdown in inline editor (#2673)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - The inline markdown editor (MarkdownEditor / MDXEditor) is used to edit agent instructions, issue descriptions, and other content > - When users paste agent instructions copied from terminals or consoles, extra leading whitespace is uniformly added to every line > - PR #2572 fixed markdown structure preservation on paste but did not address the leading whitespace (dedent) problem > - This pull request adds a Lexical paste normalization plugin that strips common leading whitespace and normalizes line endings before MDXEditor processes pasted content > - The benefit is that pasted content from terminals/consoles renders correctly without manual cleanup ## What Changed - **`ui/src/lib/normalize-markdown.ts`** — Pure utility that computes minimum common indentation across non-empty lines and strips it (dedent), plus CRLF → LF normalization - **`ui/src/lib/paste-normalization.ts`** — Lexical `PASTE_COMMAND` plugin at `CRITICAL` priority that intercepts plain-text pastes, normalizes the markdown, and re-dispatches cleaned content for MDXEditor to process. Skips HTML-rich pastes. - **`ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.tsx`** — Registers the new plugin; updates PR #2572's `handlePasteCapture` to use `normalizeMarkdown()` (dedent + CRLF) instead of `normalizePastedMarkdown()` (CRLF only) for the markdown-routing path - **`ui/src/lib/paste-normalization.test.ts`** — 9 unit tests covering dedent, CRLF normalization, mixed indent, empty lines, single-line passthrough, and edge cases ## Verification - `pnpm --dir ui exec vitest run src/lib/paste-normalization.test.ts` — 9 tests pass - Manual: paste indented agent instructions from a terminal into any inline markdown editor and confirm leading whitespace is stripped ## Risks - Low risk. The plugin only activates for plain-text pastes (no HTML clipboard data). HTML/rich pastes pass through unchanged. Single-line pastes are not modified. The dedent logic is conservative — it only strips whitespace common to all non-empty lines. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix markdown paste handling in document editor (#2572)
Supersedes #2499. ## Thinking Path 1. **Project context**: Paperclip uses a markdown editor (`MarkdownEditor`) for document editing. Users expect to paste markdown-formatted text from external sources (like code editors, other documents) and have it render correctly. 2. **Problem identification**: When users paste plain text containing markdown syntax (e.g., `# Heading`, `- list item`), the editor was treating it as plain text, resulting in raw markdown syntax being displayed rather than formatted content. 3. **Root cause**: The default browser paste behavior doesn't recognize markdown syntax in plain text. The editor needed to intercept paste events and detect when the clipboard content looks like markdown. 4. **Solution design**: - Create a utility (`markdownPaste.ts`) to detect markdown patterns in plain text - Add a paste capture handler in `MarkdownEditor` that intercepts paste events - When markdown is detected, prevent default paste and use `insertMarkdown` instead - Handle edge cases (code blocks, file pastes, HTML content) ## What - Added `ui/src/lib/markdownPaste.ts`: Utility to detect markdown patterns and normalize line endings - Added `ui/src/lib/markdownPaste.test.ts`: Test coverage for markdown detection - Modified `ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.tsx`: Added paste capture handler to intercept and handle markdown paste ## Why Users frequently copy markdown content from various sources (GitHub, documentation, notes) and expect it to render correctly when pasted into the editor. Without this fix, users see raw markdown syntax (e.g., `# Title` instead of a formatted heading), which degrades the editing experience. ## How to Verify 1. Open any document in Paperclip 2. Copy markdown text from an external source (e.g., `# Heading\n\n- Item 1\n- Item 2`) 3. Paste into the editor 4. **Expected**: The content should render as formatted markdown (heading + bullet list), not as plain text with markdown syntax ### Test Coverage ```bash cd ui npm test -- markdownPaste.test.ts ``` All tests should pass, including: - Windows line ending normalization (`\r\n` → `\n`) - Old-Mac line ending normalization (`\r` → `\n`) - Markdown block detection (headings, lists, code fences, etc.) - Plain text rejection (non-markdown content) ## Risks 1. **False positives**: Plain text containing markdown-like characters (e.g., a paragraph starting with `#` as a hashtag) may be incorrectly treated as markdown. The detection uses a heuristic that requires block-level markdown patterns, which reduces but doesn't eliminate this risk. 2. **Removed focus guard**: The previous implementation used `isFocusedRef` to prevent `onChange` from firing during programmatic `setMarkdown` calls. This guard was removed as part of refactoring. The assumption is that MDXEditor does not fire `onChange` during `setMarkdown`, but this should be monitored for unexpected parent update loops. 3. **Clipboard compatibility**: The paste handler specifically looks for `text/plain` content and ignores `text/html` (to preserve existing HTML paste behavior). This means pasting from rich text editors that provide both HTML and plain text will continue to use the HTML path, which may or may not be the desired behavior. --------- Co-authored-by: 馨冉 <xinxincui239@gmail.com> |

fix: render mention autocomplete via portal to prevent overflow clipping
The mention suggestion dropdown was getting clipped when typing at the end of a long description inside modals/dialogs because parent containers had overflow-y-auto. Render it via createPortal to document.body with fixed positioning and z-index 9999 so it always appears above all UI. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix mention pills by allowing custom URL schemes in Lexical LinkNode
The previous fix (validateUrl on linkPlugin) only affected the link dialog, not the markdown-to-Lexical import path. Lexical's LinkNode.sanitizeUrl() converts agent:// and project:// URLs to about:blank because they aren't in its allowlist. Override the prototype method to preserve these schemes so mention chips render correctly. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: add two newlines after image drop/paste in markdown editor
When dragging or pasting an image into a markdown editor field, the cursor would end up right next to the image making it hard to continue typing. Now inserts two newlines after the image so a new paragraph is ready. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): prevent infinite re-render loop on agent configure page
MarkdownEditor's plugins useMemo depended on imageUploadHandler, which was a new arrow function on every parent render. This caused MDXEditor to reinitialize plugins on each render, firing onChange, which updated the overlay state in AgentConfigForm, triggering a parent re-render — creating an infinite "Maximum update depth exceeded" loop. Fix: use a stable ref for imageUploadHandler so plugins are only created once (keyed on whether a handler exists, not its identity). Also use a module-level empty object for env config fallback to avoid unnecessary EnvVarEditor re-renders. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
