feat: integrate Pi 1.0 into the experimental Runner (#14921)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The experimental Runner owns provider processes and durable sessions. > - Pi needs working task execution and human controls. > - The five-PR stack must preserve changes already on master. > - Each layer now carries the complete integrated source for a safe sequential fallback. > - This PR belongs to native GitHub stack #15602, ending at #14956. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14436, #14631, #14743 and #14956. Ship Pi 1.0 through the experimental Paperclip Runner. The five PRs are #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924 and #14956. The user authorized the complete merge after checks pass. Existing `pi_local` execution is unchanged. Accounting and wider provider/platform qualification remain deferred. ## What Changed - Recover missing final replies after workspace finalization changes owners, using accepted-turn evidence without rerunning work or granting external-chat publication. - Preserve the admitted Pi instruction root across warm runs, while retaining changed-root rejection. - Give Pi a bounded 15-second default shutdown grace so stop, drain acknowledgement and durable suspension can complete. Explicit deadlines and other providers retain their existing behavior. - Integrate the Pi 1.0 runtime and master contracts. - Use Pi profile 22. Preserve explicit caller-selected models and exact native thinking levels. Keep Pi's wrapper, helper, extension and question/control behavior unchanged from the qualified profile-19 runtime. - Preserve master's Dot lifecycle and consent fields, configured task environment, status guards and current Codex/Claude dependency versions. Cursor stays qualified. Copilot stays pending; profile 17 binds the changed shared protocol validation sources. - Exclude general AWS IAM credentials from Pi static/custom provider bindings and selected task projections; preserve the provider-scoped Bedrock bearer key. Profile 21 is retained as historical provenance. Rust and cloud install probes use the current declaration. - Patch bundled brace-expansion 5.0.9 to the exact official 5.0.12 payload. Pin the patch and complete runtime closures. Include the patch in normal installed setup tooling. Keep the upstream Pi shrinkwrap as provenance and permit only this exact security correction. - Include current attestation files in the Docker build context. Keep the repository lockfile unchanged from master. CI and private image builds resolve manifest changes before their frozen installation. ## Verification - Full local `pnpm -r typecheck` passes, including Runner Rust, server and UI. Focused integration checks pass: 194 Runner admission/environment tests, 63 profile/credential tests with one expected skip, 152 Dot/UI configuration tests, and Pi transcript/notice tests. - Full local `pnpm build` passes on the final source. - Fresh final-source checks pass: all 698 Rust workspace tests (32 binaries), 156 credential/profile/controller tests with one expected skip, Runner TypeScript typecheck, and 20 package/setup/sandbox tests. - The profile-21 Pi materializer passes on the native host with the official pinned Node 24.21.0 and its npm. It verifies all 150 locked packages, the patched dependency and the exact closure. Setup/package bundle tests and UI token gates pass. - The old hashes were reproduced for all three supported targets before calculating the patched graph. New closure hashes are darwin-arm64 `282022db10150c6632b3444df421342e7d534bdf5d5fb1097a2e79d0625a2bcf`, darwin-x64 `64e251e19009f755c0b04f73ce2138246faab71a961b0f13d75ebfcc34bef12e`, and linux-x64 `713b1fdff42fb56a1518bdc084f181d70bee8ebadc3e4b1d76321ed9108c8410`. Independent native platform execution is separate from graph identity reproduction. - Historical cloud qualification remains unchanged: all seven core cases pass on shipping source `10dc43c9ec65d88c2f782d62afb296d09494f215`, harness `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`, image `sha256:5b3a775b383591bda1b0c1889e509acc70ce7f37c53f09733c81d59037f02280`, and accepted Sonnet 4.6/low fixture. All 215 canonical files and all seven cleanup checks pass independent verification. These are profile-19 results and are not relabeled as fresh profile-22 runs. - Current Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [The readiness plan](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/pi-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-02-pi-production-readiness.md) preserves campaign and failed-attempt provenance. - Merge only after every PR's current-head CI and fresh review pass. Linux CI covers the full suites, build and browser tests. The local embedded Postgres API-authority suite cannot start on this macOS/Node 26 host, so Linux CI must confirm that suite. ### Fresh profile-22 core qualification — 2026-10-08 All seven accepted core cases pass canonically on Pi profile 22, with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. This model is a fixture; production accepts the caller's explicit Pi provider/model. Runtime/install source: `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401`. Frozen accepted harness: `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`. Immutable cloud image: `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:506f22db7edd78f37c0c40bec1cc084af1850455026dbf467194bfbb8fcef141`. Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [Hosted Linux image and clean-install verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868328023) passes, including all 20 source-bound archives, normal CLI/Pi setup, companion import and the production pack reader. This exact installation source includes the latest master integration and the corrected Pi warm instruction-root fence. Full local typecheck/build and current-head hosted CI verify the final stack. All 13 focused real-root regressions pass. The full local executor suite passed 662 tests; 15 database tests could not start the Mac embedded PostgreSQL service. Hosted Linux CI passes the full required verification and E2E checks. These fresh results keep their own source identity; profile-19 results remain historical. | Core path | Canonical campaign | Retained archive SHA-256 | | --- | --- | --- | | File edit, validation, download and Done | `pi-core22-replyfix-0-1791511228` | 23 files; `a473e8603a3dd4737863291f8d3d1e392391f0b16d433c3e0e0e9d8baf7a97b0` | | Pending question and controller restart | `pi-core22-replyfix-1-1791511376` | 33 files; `6b829c4eb74e1f32a89c692a4ae7130dbfc1c6d3cf13915effe2103d9e242c8e` | | Three-turn session/process/workspace continuity | `pi-core22-replyfix-2-1791511587` | 23 files; `7a87021f8f9a3fdd3c58bb4467f8d82c635e3ea4795d6e75f144d9aa14818df8` | | Four typed questions and browser reconnects | `pi-core22-replyfix-3-1791511881` | 42 files; `9e31755252be1f4f9cb0626c984c142d4d1ae5f5bee3a7af08444db8d12c280a` | | Plan approval and completion | `pi-core22-replyfix-4-1791512031` | 22 files; `a0383ce1aab38e7b5a25ce0e9dd3bebea5c037ebd96ae6b29dae19015da2ae2c` | | Same-turn steering and permission denial | `pi-core22-replyfix-5-1791512261` | 39 files; `c929b8c7070f0b66aedc17e65ca46e6beab1e363926ac9f7e2a75fb250f05949` | | Stop during pending permission | `pi-core22-replyfix-6-1791512390` | 33 files; `7f0a58ae0f4d5bfc76149435f4e322537089c5bd16e7ffe9b5ad71f10a621a07` | All 215 canonical files (28714587 bytes) are independently hash-verified. All seven cleanup grades pass, with no owned runtime process or temporary root after each case. Automatic retries are zero. The owned cloud host stopped normally after retention. The prior profile-22 warm attempt remains failed and separately retained: archive SHA-256 `1e54eba5ec72b50cee1534b23d1d1d4f21a090006b8a64501ba70db972abfde5`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Diagnosis reproduced a product bug comparing an agent-files root against an unset checkpoint-only field. The fix stores the admitted physical root separately from the adopted per-run collection capability. The real-root regression fails before the fix and passes afterward, including rejection of a changed physical root. Fixture, grader, model and all seven accepted case IDs are unchanged; this fresh campaign tests final-reply publication after file registration first. The intermediate restart attempt also remains failed and retained: archive SHA-256 `5dcaefdf1d17cf4cd54fd4cf810f45e736667392339b8ce7caf08bb4e225277f`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Pi resumed, wrote the verified answer and completed its task; exact runner suspension was proven, but idle stop consumed about 5.2s and left under 3s for the drain acknowledgement. The Pi-only default shutdown grace is now 15s, preserving a full 5s drain round trip and a finite suspension reserve. Explicit caller deadlines, other provider defaults, literal drain receipts and exact suspension identity checks remain unchanged. The timing regression fails before this correction and passes afterward; all 18 focused settlement tests and Runner typecheck pass. The final-source file attempt is also preserved as failed (`candidate_failure`), archive SHA-256 `db6767b6773ea618997927ac77bdb005a5ac81492c7b9c0ffbc900449f829bc9`. Native edit, validation, exact downloadable artifact and Done/succeeded all passed, and the exact final reply was durably recorded. A workspace recovery owner completed before the live heartbeat reached presentation, leaving that reply absent from task chat. Recovery now materializes only a completed final reply from the accepted turn of an ordinary internal Done task, preserving issue/run/contract binding, suppression, external-chat authorization and same-run deduplication. The database regression covers the generated file-preparation receipt, suppression, unapproved external continuation and replay. Server typecheck and all 49 response-selection tests pass; hosted Linux verifies the database regression because embedded PostgreSQL cannot start on this Mac. The delayed-final-answer database regression passes on [the final root-source Linux server shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868262553/job/113628594152), alongside 1,108 passing tests. The first root Runner shard had one unchanged durable-resume test exceed its 5-second timeout; the identical top-source shard and the isolated exact test passed. One rerun of that failed job and its required aggregate passed without source or test changes. The original failed job log and the single-rerun receipt remain retained. ### October 9 merge verification Current merge head: `5a8fe63512a7166aaef5cf50065a25008aa8b44b`. All current-head checks pass, including `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Current master conflicts are resolved. The user authorized the maintainer override of the code-owner review gate after these checks. The seven retained live core cases remain bound to source `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401` and its recorded cloud image. ## Risks - The security correction changes the dependency closure and profile identity. Old sessions must reopen on the new profile. Exact identities and credential bindings fail closed. - The runner remains experimental and requires explicit selection. Legacy Pi Local is unchanged. Caller model IDs pass through; the E2E model is a fixture. - Accounting and the broad platform/provider matrix remain deferred. This merge does not publish a release or deploy a service. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with reasoning, repository inspection, editing and tool use. The exact serving ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Final live qualification uses Pi 1.0.0 with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stabilize composer model selection and refine effort slider (#15444)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task composers let users select an agent, a model, and an effort level. > - The model label changes width when users move the effort slider. > - This movement makes the control harder to use. > - This pull request keeps the label fixed while the picker is open. > - A larger slider gives clearer feedback during selection. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The shared model and effort picker in task composers. **Current behavior** The trigger shows each effort change while the picker is open. Different label lengths move the control. The slider is small. **Proposed behavior** The trigger shows “Select model” while any picker view is open. It shows the selected model and effort after the picker closes. The slider has a thicker track and a larger thumb with hover and press feedback. **Reason and benefit** Users can change effort without moving the trigger. The larger thumb gives clearer pointer feedback. ## What Changed - Keep the trigger text fixed while the picker is open. - Add slider size and feedback tokens. - Remove the gray input outline and thumb border. Show keyboard focus on the thumb. - Keep a thumb focus outline when Windows high contrast suppresses shadows. - Keep native keyboard and pointer controls. Respect reduced motion. - Test open and closed labels on desktop and mobile. ## Verification - Picker tests: 27 pass. Composer settings and new-task tests: 86 pass. - UI typecheck and UI build passed before the final CSS-only high-contrast fix. - Token gates pass. - Full typecheck and build stop at installed Runner API type mismatches outside these files. - Revised Chromium checks pass for desktop pointer drag, no input outline during drag, stable open label, keyboard input, and mobile rendering. The earlier rendered-image check confirmed reduced-motion behavior. - The earlier full local suite did not finish. The approved visual revision passed 113 focused tests. The final high-contrast fix passed 27 picker tests and token gates. - Chromium high-contrast and reduced-motion verification shows a visible thumb focus marker and working keyboard input. - Open the model picker. Change effort. Confirm “Select model” stays visible. Close the picker. Confirm the selected model and effort appear. - All CI gates pass on final head `7a64104e14251a354b06b7916d09d44692557c4f`, including full typecheck, tests, build, and browser E2E. Greptile: 5/5 with no findings. ## Risks - Low risk: shared UI only. Native range controls stay in place. - Browser thumb rendering can differ between engines. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 Codex. Code editing, tool use, and test execution. The runtime does not expose an exact model variant or context window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stabilize mobile task reading and document navigation (#15228)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People read tasks and send instructions from phones as well as desktop browsers. > - The mobile footer let page text show through its labels, and small text fields made Safari zoom on focus. > - Small scroll changes made the footer switch direction, and its changing page padding moved the conversation. > - Task pages also showed comments before question cards and run history arrived, so the composer and reading position moved again. > - Document links also used native navigation, which reset the reading position or reloaded a task through its UUID URL. Desktop tabs were crowded in the mobile drawer. > - This pull request keeps navigation steady, opens documents in the mounted task, and gives mobile readers a full-height panel with a vertical tab selector. > - The benefit is a stable task view and smoother scrolling on mobile. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The mobile footer was translucent. Safari zoomed when a person focused a small text field. The footer switched abruptly while scrolling. A large task could show saved comments, then move the page again when a question card or run history arrived. In a local test with delayed responses, a late question moved the mobile composer by about 374 pixels. Opening a plan from the feed could reset the view or reload the task through a UUID link. The mobile document drawer left part of the feed exposed above small desktop tab controls. **Expected behavior** The footer has an opaque surface and moves smoothly after deliberate scrolling. Text fields do not cause automatic focus zoom. A task shows its initial conversation and composer together at the final scroll position. Background refreshes keep the existing conversation visible. Document links open in the mounted task with its existing cache and reading position. Mobile documents fill the viewport, show a clear close button, and offer a vertical list of open tabs. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with many long comments and a pending question in iOS Safari. 2. Delay its interactions, activity, and runs responses by different amounts. 3. Reload the page and watch the conversation and composer move as each response arrives. 4. Scroll down and back up, including small direction changes and edge bounce. 5. Focus the task composer, search field, and new-task title and description. 6. Open a plan or another task document from the feed, including a link that uses the task UUID. Close the panel and check the reading position. 7. Open several documents on a phone. Switch tabs and close both active and inactive tabs. **Paperclip version or commit** Developed from `1c07b5903` and rebased onto `59015846a`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Tested in an isolated local test drive with iOS 26.5 Simulator Safari and Chrome. A temporary local proxy delayed independent responses for the layout test. Related work found in the duplicate search: - Refs #14727. It made saved replies appear before supporting history. This PR keeps its parallel requests and narrows the tradeoff in favor of a stable first layout. - Refs #14667. This open PR takes a different approach with per-run placeholders and retries. This PR fixes the observed question/composer movement and mobile navigation behavior. - Refs #13095 and #13597. These earlier fixes added task scroll anchors and skipped transcript waits for scheduled retries. - Refs #6550. Earlier mobile board polish. - Refs #9467. This related open PR changes list and generic tab reflow. The task-pane selector uses a separate component. ## What Changed - Give the mobile footer an opaque semantic surface. - Set a base-size floor for editable text on touch devices to prevent Safari focus zoom. Preserve larger title text. - Share mobile scroll tracking between both layouts. Accumulate scroll distance, ignore edge bounce and changed document bounds, and update once per frame. - Use shared motion tokens for the footer and composer. Keep page padding stable and honor reduced motion. - Wait for the initial question cards, attachments, work products, activity, runtime selection, plan, and relevant transcript history before the first reveal. Skip scheduled retries and older runs outside the initial comment window. - Bound the first reveal to 15 seconds. A stalled supporting request leaves saved conversation and the composer accessible with an explicit loading notice. - Keep concealed mobile history from stretching the document. Keep the composer mounted but concealed until the same reveal. Keep both visible during later refreshes. - Route first and repeated same-task document clicks in place. Recognize UUID and identifier links. Preserve the thread history entry and feed position. Keep modifier clicks, downloads, external links, and classic document behavior. - Give the mobile task panel the full viewport and safe-area padding. Use a visible X and 44-pixel touch controls. Replace the horizontal tab strip with a vertical selector that wraps titles and supports keyboard focus. - Add four interactive Storybook states for a few tabs, long names, many tabs, and the last tab. Reuse the production selector and tab controller. - Add navigation and tab regressions, update first-reveal regressions, and document the behavior in `DESIGN.md`. ## Verification - 392 tests passed across the seven focused task-loading, scroll, mobile-navigation, layout, and composer suites. After review fixes, all 339 tests across the four affected suites passed, including stalled-loading fallback on mobile and desktop and the motion-token catalog. - All 442 focused document, tab, task-thread, and scroll tests pass. The final click-propagation cleanup also passes all 136 task-detail tests. UI typecheck, UI production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - All four cases in `artifact-tab-arrival.spec.ts` and `text-attachment-tabs.spec.ts` pass locally, covering desktop and mobile selection, composer focus, document rendering, and downloads of the original bytes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passed. Open the mobile tab stories under `Prototypes/Task detail/Mobile tabs`. - A local diagnostic proxy measured cached plan content at about 250 ms after the first click. The HTML load count and task request count did not change. Feed scroll stayed at the same position. First, repeated, and UUID document links were tested at phone and desktop widths. Task-reference links close their preview before the document reader opens. - In Chrome at desktop and phone widths, the delayed-response task showed one complete reveal. The late question no longer moved an already visible composer. - In iOS Simulator Safari, verified the large-task reload, opaque footer, navigation hide/reveal, and search/new-task/composer focus without automatic zoom. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. The updated UI also passes typecheck, production build, and token gates. - All 54 checks pass on the final commit `bf5c9914e61833e7cc8794a69d72cf8c7057b952` (two additional checks are intentionally skipped). Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5, and all review threads are resolved. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted but stopped after server-fixture failures. Embedded PostgreSQL startup failure reproduced in an isolated native-interaction fixture after five startup attempts. The broad run also reported a rapid Slack callback ordering test failure. These server paths are unchanged by this PR, and their CI shards pass on the latest head. The full local suite is not claimed as passing. - A localhost proxy stalled the activity response for 30 seconds. Chrome revealed the available conversation after the 15-second deadline at both desktop and phone widths, kept the composer accessible, and cleared the loading notice when the response arrived. ## Risks Slow initial history requests can delay the first conversation reveal by up to 15 seconds. If that deadline expires, late data can change the available conversation while a loading notice remains visible. The reveal waits only for runs in the initial comment window, and later refreshes do not conceal an existing conversation. The larger editable text can change line wrapping on phones. Mobile navigation and composer motion use shared tokens and respect reduced-motion settings. Mobile tab selection changes the control layout. Document links retain URL history while sharing the task reading position; other tasks and external links keep their normal navigation behavior. I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This is a fix for existing UI behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. The agent used reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and Chrome and iOS Simulator testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): make AgentMail a default connection with inline setup (#14772)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents access to external services. > - AgentMail needs both a saved key and an inbox assigned to the agent. > - Chat requests offered a setup link instead of an inline card and could treat a saved key as complete. > - Inbox setup also hid address conflicts behind a generic server error and a separate review step. > - This pull request makes AgentMail a default connection, adds the inline card, reduces setup to two steps, and shows conflicts beside the address. > - Shared native dropdown styles also give every caret a consistent inset. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** AgentMail requests in chat did not show a usable inline connection card. Manual setup required extra screens, ignored saved account keys, and could trap new-address setup in a locked inbox dropdown. Agent selectors omitted the avatar from the selected value. A taken address could produce an HTTP 403 from AgentMail and appear as an internal server error. Native dropdown arrows also touched the right edge of their fields. **Expected behavior** Make AgentMail available as a default connection. Ask for the API key inline, with a direct link to its provider page. Default human access to the company and agent access to the requesting agent. Resume the agent only after an assigned inbox is active. Manual setup should ask for an agent and email address, then finish. Address checks should run as the user types. Taken addresses should show clickable alternatives. A domain dropdown beside the name should prefer a verified custom domain. Setup should suggest authorized saved AgentMail keys and show agent avatars in the picker and selected value. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to connect AgentMail when it has no assigned inbox. 2. Check that an inline API-key card appears and links to the provider's API-key page. 3. Open AgentMail setup, choose an agent, and request an address that is already taken. 4. Correct the inline error, refresh, and finish setup with the same request ID. 5. Inspect native dropdown carets in light, dark, disabled, and right-to-left states. Uses the bounded provider-error parser merged in #14768. Related work: #13256 introduced AgentMail; #14725 expanded connection search. ## What Changed - Stop recurring email queries for tasks that have no email thread. Share the query between the thread provider and activity view. Keep email-task updates and invalidation-based discovery. - Make AgentMail available without the experimental chat setting. Keep the catalog, setup and management routes, agent Channels tab, task email feed, receiving worker, and agent tools available by default. Other experimental chat providers stay gated. - Make the email address and copy icon a single clickable action with the shared Copied! confirmation. Add View inbox linking directly to the matching AgentMail console inbox, with the address encoded as one URL path segment. - Reorganize inbox Settings around the copyable email address, usage instructions, and receiving status. Move reconnect credentials into a disclosure and separate the Disconnect action. Add production Settings stories for active, paused, unassigned-address, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect states. Show repair controls when the inbox has an error. Keep usage instructions tied to an active inbox with an address. - Add AgentMail channel intents and an inline key field with the direct API-key URL. - Keep setup and retry state tied to the interaction. Require an active inbox for completion. Preserve company and agent access checks. - Reduce manual setup to agent selection and email selection. Put the domain dropdown beside the address and default to a verified custom domain. Preserve explicit choices across reloads. Keep receiving settings under Advanced options. - Check the initial address and edits after a 350 ms pause. Abort superseded requests and ignore stale responses. Show clickable suggestions and retain known creation conflicts across reloads. - Add a company-scoped, manager-only address check using the saved credential. Search the visible inbox list instead of fetching an uncreated inbox: live AgentMail retains negative lookups that can break subsequent access-key creation. Unlisted addresses remain unknown; creation is authoritative. - Suggest labeled saved AgentMail keys in both manual setup and the inline card. Filter by company, provider, active credential, and current-user grants on the server. Prefer an account key and preserve the selected key or an explicit new-key choice across refresh. Use verified scope metadata and bounded concurrent checks for legacy keys. Never return secret values. - Catch an inbox-only key before the email step. Allow its existing inbox only after an explicit choice. Recover old locked drafts at the key picker. Save the replacement key before retiring an empty draft, then use a new setup URL so refresh preserves the switched account; stop if cleanup fails. Preserve already allocated addresses and their original accounts. - Use the shared AgentSelect in email setup. Show the canonical agent avatar in each option and the selected value, including other consumers of the shared component. Add regression coverage for legacy and current Lucide agent-mention icon formats. - Start each catalog Add connection with a fresh setup identity. Honor Finish setup's exact draft/account/address instead of resuming an unrelated browser draft. Return Cancel and Done to Connectors and Email settings to the inbox. Group the task/thread explanation in a How it Works card. - Route AgentMail catalog removal through the email inbox control API, including unfinished drafts. Refresh both the catalog and inbox views. - Render each inbox management tab separately. Access uses the saved account grants and agent controls; Conversations and Activity use the shared persisted email feed. Activity lifecycle actions use the email API. Reconnect returns to inbox Settings. Conversation failures show a retry instead of a false empty state. Email delivery recovery stays in the task. - Map documented provider address conflicts to a field error. Preserve actionable messages for other failures. - Preserve non-secret draft fields across refresh, scoped to the requested agent. Never save API keys in browser storage. Resume partial inbox creation with the original agent, address, and request ID. - Show an already-created address with explicit retry and new-address recovery instead of locked inputs. Preserve the original inbox and resumable draft when choosing another address. Distinguish runtime-key 404 errors and log safe provider status/operation/code. - Apply final agent access once within email setup authorization for a new account whose original installs are unchanged. Preserve later permission edits and reused account installs. Support in-place retry of progress loading. - Let a failed inline setup change keys after retiring an empty draft. Persist its replacement setup identity without storing secrets. Recover a server-saved account when refresh interrupts the save response, while preserving intentional account changes. - Render the production setup in Storybook and add error, recovery, and mobile states. - Inset native select carets in shared CSS. Preserve custom icons, listboxes, keyboard behavior, and forced-color controls. - Add browser regression coverage and an AgentMail Product E2E case with persisted-state and rendered-card evidence. ## Verification - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, and `git diff --check` passed after the default-availability change. - All 485 focused tests passed. These cover setup, management, catalog and route gates, connection intents, email authorization, Cursor execution, and the OpenAPI contract. All 39 email integration tests run with the experimental chat setting off. - The shared polling change passed four behavioral tests, UI typecheck and build, and token gates. - `tests/e2e/agentmail.spec.ts` passed with the actual server setting off. This full-stack browser test uses simulated provider responses. It covers catalog entry, saved keys, editable address and domain controls, creation, conflicts, retry, all management tabs, clipboard feedback, the provider link, and task email rendering. - In the live local browser, Add connection reached the editable email step with the saved account key. The verified custom domain was selected by default. Both domain choices worked. The existing inbox Settings page remained available. Both active inboxes completed new mail checks with the setting off. No new provider inbox or email message was created for this pass. - Earlier live provider acceptance covered creation on a verified custom domain, Finish connecting on the reported draft, successful mail checks after refresh, and catalog removal of disposable draft and active connections. Clicking the email address copied the exact address and showed Copied!. View inbox opened the same inbox in AgentMail’s console. No email messages were sent. - Production setup and Settings Storybook builds and interactions passed. Settings states include active, paused, unassigned, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect. Receiving and revoked-access stories had zero accessibility violations. - Full local `pnpm test:run` on an earlier revision completed with 14,709 passing, 87 skipped, and four transient failures. All four failed cases passed in focused reruns without product changes. That serial full local command was not repeated after each follow-up. The latest-head full CI suite is the final test gate. - CI found an obsolete browser assertion that hid every channel when the flag was off. Updated it to keep AgentMail and the Channels surface visible while preserving the GitHub chat route gates. All 11 provider browser tests passed locally after scoping the Channels selector to the agent sidebar. Two initial local attempts stopped at temporary Postgres initialization. The passing run used a separate disposable database on the existing local Postgres server; it was removed after the test. - Updated the remaining sidebar and aggregator discovery assertions for default AgentMail availability. Ordinary task fixtures now return no email thread. All 128 sidebar/task-page tests and all 42 aggregator tests passed locally. - Latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`: full CI passed, with 54 successful checks including Snyk and two intentional Storybook skips. The CI run is https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37020833647. A fresh Greptile review scored 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Live model evaluations and inbound/outbound email delivery were not run. ## Risks - AgentMail no longer needs experimental opt-in. Setup still requires a human to connect an account and assign an inbox. Inline setup creates an inbox after a human submits a new or saved key. Company access, agent access, inbox assignment, and completion checks remain enforced. - AgentMail read APIs cannot prove global address availability. The visible-list check is bounded to 100 entries and cannot see inboxes outside the key’s scope. The UI reports this limitation, suggests alternatives without claiming they are free, and keeps final creation conflicts inline. Lookup outages show an error without preventing the authoritative creation attempt. - Native select CSS affects the whole app. Custom-icon selects and multi-row lists are excluded. Forced-color mode keeps the browser caret. - Saved-key discovery uses stored verified scope metadata and checks authorized legacy credentials concurrently within a shared three-second deadline. Provider outages mark legacy choices unavailable; users can still enter another key. Final use rechecks authorization and provider access. - No database migration or transport default change. Live connection remains the default. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. Add GitHub-synced skill sources (#14713)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Company skills supply instructions and files to those agents. > - GitHub imports already exist, but users cannot manage repositories as skill sources. > - Repository refresh also needs caller-authorized access and complete local packages. > - This pull request adds Sources inside Skills and reuses GitHub connections from Apps. > - Installed snapshots let agents use skills without fetching GitHub during a run. > - Manual refresh preserves skill identity and leaves failed imports on their last good version. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: skills UI, server, database, shared contracts, and runtime materialization. **Problem or motivation** Users keep skills in GitHub repositories. They need a clear way to select, import, and refresh those skills. Existing imports do not expose repository management or consistently preserve supporting files. **Proposed solution** Add company-scoped skill sources. Browse repositories from all accessible GitHub connections, or paste a public repository or branch URL. Select whole skill packages, inspect included files and reference warnings, and install complete, immutable snapshots. Refresh each source manually. **Alternatives considered** Project repository settings hide the workflow from Skills. A second GitHub connector would duplicate credentials and grants. Upstream editing and PR creation are separate work. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the Skills Manager direction in ROADMAP.md. The maintainer requested this scope and reviewed the component and full-app journey stories before implementation. Related reports: Refs #10285, Refs #10949, Refs #13464. Related work: #14356, #13656, #9268. ## What Changed - Add source and entry records, an idempotent migration, company-scoped APIs, and legacy GitHub import adoption. - Reuse current caller grants and credential refresh. Combine and deduplicate repository inventories across accessible connections. Pasted public URLs also prefer the active user’s authorized connections. Tokens stay in the Git child environment, never argv or disk. - Fetch a shallow Git snapshot at one immutable commit. Scan the full local tree, including hidden and nested folders. Read Git objects without checkout or archive transformations and enforce nested package boundaries. - Bound Git downloads to 128 MiB and three minutes. Cancel active process groups and remove incomplete downloads. Preserve cancellation and deadlines while progress drains; close stalled HTTP progress streams after 30 seconds. Reuse caller-scoped temporary snapshots for preview/import after reauthorization. - Index repository package boundaries once and cap expanded work at 1,000 packages, 10,000 files, and 100 MiB, including repeated copies of shared blobs. Bound path depth and the shared path index. Discovery keeps audited manifests without retaining all package bodies. - Resolve moving branches before fetching so unchanged discovery reuses caller-scoped snapshots. Limit active scans, scan frequency, and new downloads per caller and company; quotas apply before metadata reads and across connections, and cached scans do not consume the download quota. - Store complete versions with script content, binary bytes, and executable modes. Preserve these through copies, runtime caches, and runner packaging. - Stage downloads before publication. Use source leases, revision checks, and transactional activity records. Keep installed versions after failures, upstream deletion, deselection, and disconnect. - Add the approved import flow, Sources page, selection tree, provenance, read-only Studio behavior, and saved return from GitHub setup. - Add package manifests, commit-pinned file previews, and separate runtime requirements and reference warnings. Supporting files are included together; nested skills remain independently selectable. Preview requests reauthorize the caller and re-audit package content. - Show installed skills as compact links beneath each source. Repository titles open GitHub. Keep Refresh, Select skills, and Disconnect source in a three-dot menu. Source rows omit the branch, imported count, and refresh timestamp; action alignment and repository titles work at narrow widths. - Stream discovery metadata over an opt-in NDJSON response. Show measured Git download progress and real package/file counts, animate newly checked skills, support cancellation, and require a complete scan before selection. Keep the existing JSON API. - Retain component stories and add a separate full-app journey story group. Include fixed progress states and interactive scan, large-repository, interruption, and saving stories. - Update Skills documentation and product contracts. Suppress private GitHub skill references in telemetry. Privacy review requested for the telemetry changes. ## Verification - Local repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and Storybook build passed during this work. Focused transport, authorization, scanner, persistence, route, and UI tests pass. The final UI refinement passes all eight focused UI tests, UI typecheck/build, and token gates. The scanner resource and repeated-discovery fixes pass 132 focused scanner, transport, authorization, source-service, route, and rate-limit tests, plus server typecheck/build. Full-suite verification comes from CI; the older full local Vitest run was stopped after unrelated chat failures and a font-test failure, all of which passed in fresh focused runs. At commit `1098d5996`, all 54 active checks pass; two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. CI covers repository typecheck, build, the full test suites, browser shards, and the canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings; the security scan also passes. - Adversarial scanner tests verify repeated-blob byte accounting with and without declared sizes, package/file/path caps, one-time repository indexing, metadata-only discovery audits, and nested package boundaries. Additional tests cover branch movement, snapshot reuse, caller/company quotas, isolation across connections, active-lease cleanup, quota recovery, and rejection before any metadata API call. - Real Git tests verify hidden paths, exact binary bytes, executable modes, export-ignore preservation, symlink/submodule reporting, pinned commits, caller-scoped cache reuse, cancellation, cleanup, and credential isolation. Regression tests hold both download slots with permanently blocked progress callbacks, verify timeout/cancellation cleanup and retry, and exercise HTTP backpressure cancellation. Access tests cover automatic public-URL connection selection and revoked grants. Database tests verify company and grant audiences. - Live isolated browser test: the public `anthropics/skills` scan now completes and discovers all 20 skills without connecting an account. Imported canvas-design with all 83 files, opened it from Sources, and verified the installed binary-font preview/download control. Package previews also expose the complete file inventory before import. Cancelled an active Git download and retried successfully to all 20 discovered skills; the browser displayed measured download progress. The current audits reject four other packages; eligible selections remain importable. - Browser checks verify the simplified source rows at desktop and narrow widths, keyboard navigation into the actions menu, Refresh from the menu, selection, and fixture disconnect with installed skills retained. Storybook includes a menu-open checkpoint and a 320px layout. - Storybook includes receiving/preparing download checkpoints and a timed full-app import journey, plus cancellation, retry, large-repository, and saving states. Streaming tests cover split UTF-8 frames, incomplete streams, late responses, cross-company requests, HTTP errors, and JSON compatibility. - Earlier live acceptance on this PR imported `stitch-skill` with `DESIGN.md`, assigned it to an agent, disconnected its source, and ran a successful Studio test that read both installed files. An editable copy changed independently. Both Skills variants, mobile selection, and return from GitHub setup were exercised. - Private access, revoked credentials, OAuth success return, binary/script preservation, concurrent refresh, transaction rollback, version pins, and legacy adoption have automated coverage. A real private-repository OAuth grant was not created during this test. ## Risks - The migration groups recognizable legacy imports without provider calls. Their first successful refresh completes the local package snapshot. - Reference checks are advisory. They cover Markdown links and explicit relative resource paths, not arbitrary runtime dependency graphs. Preview text is capped at 64 KiB; imported bytes remain complete. - Git must be installed on the server. Shallow fetches still download the branch snapshot, including files outside selected packages. Downloads have size/time/concurrency limits. Temporary caches are bounded and caller-scoped. GitHub API quota still applies to repository metadata and the connection picker; content no longer uses per-file API requests. Failed scans retain installed content. - Sources depend on the current caller's GitHub access. A saved connection does not grant access to another person's token. - GitHub script support and immediate manual refresh are explicit maintainer-approved requirements. The operator trusts the selected repository and accepts upstream script and executable-mode changes on refresh. Static audits are not a sandbox or a guarantee of safe code; agents may later invoke installed helpers under their runtime permissions. Import and refresh do not execute scripts, hooks, package installation, or builds. Raw URL and skills.sh imports keep their prior script restrictions. - Source originals remain read-only. Refresh affects subsequent unpinned runs; explicit pins and active runs retain their versions. - The telemetry change removes source-managed GitHub identifiers from skill-reference events. It introduces no event or field. Please review the privacy boundary. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. feat: add Browser Use Cloud connector and live task browsers (#14627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps gateway gives agents governed access to external tools. > - Browser Use Cloud can run browser work, but a tool result alone does not let a person watch or take over. > - A task needs a durable browser session, a visible viewer, and recorded costs. > - This pull request adds a Browser Use Cloud v4 connection and interactive browser tabs on tasks. > - People can follow the work, interact with the page, and retain the browser after the agent finishes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need governed access to Browser Use Cloud. People need to see and interact with the same browser from the task. A browser must remain available after a run finishes and appear at the correct point in the task feed. **Proposed solution** Add a native REST connection for the v4 API. Bind each session to its company, task, agent, and credential grant. Open its interactive viewer in the task side panel. Record provider costs as financial events. Use `browser-use-cloud` as the app and connector key. Keep its skill with the connector and deliver it only with authorized connection tools. **Alternatives considered** A v3 MCP connection would expose tools without the v4 lifecycle integration. An external viewer link would leave the task. A fixed viewer size would prevent pages from responding to changes in the task pane. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the governed Apps gateway and Connected Apps roadmap. It uses the existing task, grant, secret, approval, and financial records. The work was requested by the maintainer. A search found no duplicate Browser Use connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Browser Use Cloud app, brand asset, API-key connection, and profile settings under the `browser-use-cloud` key. - Bundle the `browser-use-cloud` skill with the connector. Keep it out of global `skills/` discovery. Deliver it only with authorized task/run connection tools. Remove retired connector skill keys from runtime overlays and preserve unrelated browser skills. - Expose seven v4 tools through the governed gateway and deliver them to native and CLI agents. - Persist sessions, browsers, runs, event and recovery cursors, shutdown leases, and cumulative cost accounting. Recover uncertain paid starts without replaying them. - Enforce task ownership, credential grants, approvals, revoked access, and budget limits. - Add interactive task browser tabs and compact chronological feed entries. Retain the viewer across tab switches and keep visible idle browsers open. - Add debounced automatic viewport fitting, standard size presets, and a viewer ownership lease. - Add lifecycle, authorization, accounting, viewport, UI, and Storybook coverage. - Add an idempotent database migration after the current master migration. Preserve deployed migration hashes. Migrate pre-release Cloud connection and financial keys without replacing grants, credentials, or browser history. - Document provider behavior, live acceptance results, and the lack of documented passkey forwarding. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and production build pass on the updated branch. - Token gates, brand asset validation, module boundaries, and migration ordering pass. - Cloud tests verify global skill exclusion, authorized task/run delivery, unassigned agents, disabled connections, revocation, adapter isolation, and secret exclusion. The existing AgentMail connector assignment test also passes. - Migration replay runs twice against existing browser work and financial records. It preserves the records and avoids duplicate costs. - The focused provider, app catalog, OpenAPI, connection gateway, and migration regression suites pass. Recovery coverage includes lost replies, process crashes, provider rejection, and browser arrival acknowledgement. - All 54 checks pass on `2974b5f03641ad0cea3c941d8c02579316fa8c92`, including the full test matrix, browser E2E shards, build, typecheck, security, and release canary. Two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit, with zero unresolved review threads. The corrected review uses the actual master-to-head diff. - The local `pnpm test:run` started and was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It did not complete locally; the full-suite result above comes from CI. - Earlier live acceptance used an isolated company with a capped provider credential. The agent opened paperclip.ing, the embedded viewer accepted navigation, and the same browser stayed available after completion and tab switches. - The local Storybook build passes. Stories cover the panel, footer, feed entries, settings, lifecycle failures, and viewport modes with an offline viewer fixture. ## Risks - Browser Use charges for hosted work. Provider caps and local budget checks reduce exposure; reported costs can arrive after work completes. - Viewer and CDP URLs grant access to the browser. The server validates and restricts them. They are excluded from agent results and durable event data. - Runtime resizing of v4 agent browsers uses a provider option confirmed by live testing but absent from its published agent schema. Resizing during a click may invalidate coordinates. Fixed presets remain available. - Viewport ownership is process-local and resets on restart. The lifecycle and accounting records remain in the database. - The original intermittent embedded-viewer stall has not been fully diagnosed. A bounded reconnect and active-session recovery cover the observed failure paths. - Live tests did not cover every revocation, approval, rate-limit, or restart case. Deterministic integration tests cover those paths. Passkey forwarding is not claimed. - Unknown create outcomes keep the credential available for cleanup. Run-list absence cannot prove a paid POST was rejected, so recovery stays pending until it can identify provider work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used reasoning, repository search, code execution, browser interaction, and test tools. fix(ui): make destructive-foreground readable in the light theme (#14328)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI uses shadcn theme tokens from `ui/src/index.css`. > - Delete and remove dialogs confirm with a red button: `bg-destructive text-destructive-foreground`. > - In the light theme, `--destructive-foreground` has the same value as `--destructive`. The label is red text on a red fill, so it is not visible. > - Operators cannot read the button that deletes data or removes a connection. > - This pull request sets the light `--destructive-foreground` to the near-white value that the dark theme already uses. > - The benefit is that every destructive confirm button shows a readable label in both themes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes #14327 I searched open and closed PRs for `destructive-foreground`, "Remove connection" and related terms. I found no PR that changes this token. ## What Changed - `ui/src/index.css`: in `:root`, `--destructive-foreground` changes from `oklch(0.577 0.245 27.325)` (the same as `--destructive`) to `oklch(0.985 0 0)`. This is the value in `.dark`. - Added `ui/src/components/DestructiveThemeTokens.test.ts`. The test converts both tokens from OKLCH to sRGB and computes the WCAG contrast ratio. `:root` must reach 4.5:1 (AA for normal text). `.dark` must reach 3:1, because it keeps the brighter red chosen in the gallery review (about 3.6:1 today). The fix applies to all five buttons that use `text-destructive-foreground`: remove connection (`Browse.tsx`, `Connections.tsx`), delete folder (`FolderControls.tsx`), delete environment (`CompanyEnvironments.tsx`) and remove chat endpoint (`ChatEndpointDetail.tsx`). No other file uses the token. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run src/components/DestructiveThemeTokens.test.ts` in `ui`: 2 tests pass. The light theme contrast is about 4.8:1. - Before the fix, the test fails for `:root` (1:1, red on red). With a light gray foreground `oklch(0.88 0 0)` it also fails (3.3:1 < 4.5:1). - Manual check on a self-hosted instance in the light theme: Apps → connection → **Remove connection** showed a red button with no visible label. After the fix, the label is white and readable. Before and after, light theme (the same classes as the confirm button: `bg-destructive text-destructive-foreground`): <img src="https://gist.githubusercontent.com/gentslava/3aa0d498e2475dd44e12bed11e7d7862/raw/c793570ebd416fe04cc390df8554515b4207590d/remove-connection-before-after.png" alt="Remove connection button before and after the fix" width="520"> ## Risks - Low risk. The change is one token in the light theme. Only the five confirm buttons above read `--destructive-foreground`. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`) in Claude Code, with tool use (shell, file edits). It found the cause, wrote the fix and the test, and wrote this description. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge @cryppadotta @devinfoley a tiny one-line theme fix: the delete buttons in the light theme are red-on-red right now, so people can't see what they are about to click. feat(ui): improve task composer controls and pending input (#14322)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets operators assign tasks to AI agents and review their work. > - The task composer controls the next message and its assigned agent. > - Operators needed a way to choose that agent's model and effort without leaving the composer. > - The old mode selector, upload button, and input cards made the mobile composer crowded and hid normal messaging during a pending decision. > - Harnesses publish different model and effort capabilities, so the picker must follow the selected agent. > - This pull request adds one responsive composer flow, keeps pending cards visible above it, and protects Codex ACP authentication in the local test path. > - Operators can choose run settings, send a message, and answer a pending card as separate actions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task composer UI, issue thread interactions, Codex ACP credential handling, and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** The composer did not expose model or effort for the selected agent. Mobile actions wrapped poorly. Pending questions and confirmations replaced the composer. A local Codex ACP test could also reuse host authentication after the managed key was removed. **Proposed solution** Put assignee search, model search, exact model IDs, effort, and fast mode in one picker. Use a mobile dialog. Replace the direct-upload plus action and separate mode selector with an Add menu and removable Plan or Ask chips. Place pending interaction cards above the usable composer. Keep these cards pending after an ordinary message unless their creator asks for comment superseding. Replace managed ACP auth files atomically and isolate the test key from host credentials. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md does not list an overlapping composer milestone. This change improves the existing task and review flows. ## What Changed - Added the combined assignee, model, and effort picker to both task composers. Search matches agent name, role, and harness. The server uses a curated Codex list by default and honors instance-declared models. Manual IDs remain available. - Added an effort slider for known model capabilities, a conditional Codex fast control, and reset. The picker opens in a modal on mobile. - Added the Add menu for files, supported goals, Plan mode, and Ask mode. Plan and Ask are exclusive removable chips. Keyboard mode cycling remains available. - Adjusted mobile spacing, avatars, wrapping, and Send placement. Removed the composer divider. - Moved pending question, confirmation, review, and related cards above the composer. Ordinary comments now leave question and confirmation cards pending by default. The onboarding prompt retains explicit comment superseding. - Updated the Storybook composer group with responsive states and the production picker. Added UI, service, route, and browser regression coverage. - Isolated Codex ACP API-key authentication, skipped subscription auth merge and shared-home copy-back for remote API-key runs, and replaced the managed auth file atomically. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/adapter-models.test.ts ui/src/components/task-chat/ComposerRunSettingsPicker.test.tsx` — 31 tests passed, including role and harness search, declared Codex models, and filtering general OpenAI models. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interactions-service.test.ts` — 74 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/acp.test.ts` — 42 tests passed, including remote API-key copy-back isolation. - `pnpm test:run` — attempted locally; the embedded PostgreSQL test database could not initialize on macOS. The isolated `heartbeat-run-event-sequencing` suite reproduced that environment failure. GitHub CI runs the full test matrix for this head. - `pnpm build` — passed on the final head. `pnpm build-storybook` passed after the last UI change; only server code, tests, and docs changed afterward. - Live local test drive — Codex ACP ran a task with a managed API key. The test agent was restored to its default ACP configuration afterward. - Review the interactive stories under the top-level Composer group with `pnpm storybook`. Check a narrow desktop width and mobile Plan, Ask, picker, and pending-question states. ## Risks - A pending card stays open when an ordinary comment changes the discussion. Its creator can set `supersedeOnUserComment: true` when a new comment should replace it. - Model and effort overrides persist on the task until reset or changed. An unlisted manual model ID may fail when the provider runs it. - Some harness catalogs do not report effort support. The picker hides effort for those models. - No database migration is required. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex. This runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context window to the task. The model used code execution and browser tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: OpenAI Codex <codex@openai.com> |

fix(ui): use large mobile selector modals (#14250)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The new task dialog lets an operator assign work on a phone. > - The mobile picker used fixed coordinates inside the Radix wrapper. > - iOS Safari already makes fixed coordinates relative to the visual viewport. > - The old code added the visual viewport offset a second time. > - This pull request removes the second offset and gives the mobile wrapper full viewport geometry. > - The benefit is a visible picker and search field when the iOS keyboard opens. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The assignee and project pickers could move outside the visible screen in the new task dialog on iOS. **What did you expect to happen?** The picker and its search field must stay visible above the bottom edge and the software keyboard. **Steps to reproduce** Open the new task dialog on an iPhone. Select Assignee or Project. The picker can move outside the visual viewport when Safari pans the page. **Paperclip version or commit** The problem exists after the change in PR #13343. **Deployment mode** The problem affects the board UI in local and authenticated modes. Refs #13343 ## What Changed - Use visual viewport local coordinates for the new task dialog. - Give the mobile Radix popper wrapper full viewport geometry. - Render both shared selector components as large, titled mobile modals. - Keep desktop selectors as anchored popovers. - Cover the new-task assignee, new-task project, composer assignee, and generic searchable selector in Storybook. - Add iPhone-sized Storybook states for the assignee and project pickers. - Update viewport tests for the corrected coordinate model. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx src/components/InlineEntitySelector.test.tsx` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - Playwright used the iPhone 14 device profile. All mobile modals were inside the 390 by 664 CSS viewport. - Each mobile modal was `x=16, y=16, width=358, height=632`. - A desktop check kept the anchored popover at `width=320, height=211`. ## Risks - Low risk. The CSS only changes narrow mobile viewports. - The full-screen popper wrapper does not receive pointer events. The picker still receives pointer events. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(ui): keep mobile task pickers above the keyboard (#14022)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their tasks. > - The New Task dialog lets a person select an assignee and a project. > - A mobile browser reduces the visible viewport when the software keyboard opens. > - The dialog accepted invalid viewport data, and the pickers stayed inside a transformed container. > - This behavior could collapse the dialog or move a picker search field above the visible area. > - This pull request validates viewport data and puts mobile pickers in the visible viewport. > - The benefit is that a mobile user can see and use each picker while the keyboard is open. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** On a mobile device, the Assignee and Project pickers in the New Task dialog could move above the visible viewport. A short invalid viewport value could also collapse the dialog to a line. **Expected behavior** The dialog and each open picker must stay in the visible viewport while the software keyboard is open. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the New Task dialog in a mobile browser. 2. Open the Assignee picker or the Project picker. 3. Focus the picker search field so that the software keyboard opens. 4. Observe that the picker can move above the visible viewport. **Paperclip version or commit** `efce9356b5` **Deployment mode** Local dev and hosted browser UI. ## What Changed - Ignore zero, negative, and non-finite Visual Viewport measurements. - Keep the last safe dialog geometry until the browser gives a valid measurement. - Put entity pickers outside the transformed dialog container. - Size and position the mobile picker from the dialog Visual Viewport values. - Add unit tests for invalid viewport recovery. - Add Chromium tests for the Assignee and Project picker states. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx` passed with 34 tests. - The Chromium viewport test passed 35 of 35 runs with five repeats and no retries. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm build-storybook` passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - A full local Vitest run reached restricted workspace-runtime tests that require sibling worktree and runtime writes. Remote CI will run the supported test environment. ## Risks - Risk is low because the new picker layout applies only to mobile widths. - The layout depends on Visual Viewport data when the browser supplies valid values. - Unit and browser tests cover invalid data, mobile pickers, tablet layout, and desktop layout. > This change fixes a focused UI bug. It does not duplicate a core feature in `ROADMAP.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex with GPT-5. The agent used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser automation. The runtime did not expose the context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(plugins): support image catalogs and persistent application overlays (#13646)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Plugins extend the application without adding each integration to
Core.
> - A downstream image needs a way to supply prebuilt plugins.
> - Some plugin UI must stay mounted as users move between pages.
> - This change adds an image catalog and a persistent application slot.
> - Operators can upgrade or remove these plugins through their image
and configuration.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Plugin packaging, activation and application UI.
**Problem or motivation**
The built-in plugin catalog is fixed in Core source. Downstream images
cannot add entries through an explicit catalog. Existing page slots also
cannot preserve a small application overlay across route changes.
**Proposed solution**
Read a bounded catalog of prebuilt plugins from the image. Verify its
files before importing manifests. Use the existing managed selection and
plugin lifecycle. Add an `appShellOverlay` slot with account and company
cleanup.
**Alternatives considered**
A downstream fork adds merge work. Script injection provides no plugin
lifecycle. A separate runtime download system adds a second distribution
channel.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the existing plugin system. Related PR #9006 covers runtime
install replication; this change covers immutable image contents. PR
#12555 covers CLI scaffolding. Neither provides this catalog or
application slot. The maintainer requested this work directly.
## What Changed
- Validate catalog identities, confined paths, package versions and
bundle hashes before importing code.
- Apply image selection to persisted plugin installs, including removal
and rollback. Adopt the verified image path from existing npm/local
installs and bind runtime worker/UI entrypoints to verified package
declarations.
- Mount application overlays in both UI shells. Preserve route state and
clear it on account, company and onboarding changes.
- Restrict service-worker offline storage/fallback to hashed public
assets in a separate cache namespace; exclude application HTML and
extension/API data, including after worker restart.
- Document the packaging contract, trust model and rollback
requirements.
## Verification
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm
check:token-gates`. Affected server/UI typechecks and builds, plus token
gates, passed again after rebasing onto current master; the 124 focused
tests also passed after rebase.
- Latest focused verification: 124 tests in nine files passed for
catalog/reconciliation/loader, overlay lifecycle, Layout and
service-worker policy. The broader UI/shared/SDK run passed 7,204 tests
in 690 files with canonical `TMPDIR`.
- Real disposable Core/PostgreSQL: catalog install, selection removal,
0.1.0→0.1.1→0.1.0, same-version npm/legacy-path adoption, and
preservation of disabled status passed. Added permissions entered
`upgrade_pending`, withheld UI across restart, and activated only after
explicit operator enable.
- Real Chromium: desktop/mobile layout, route draft retention and
Escape/focus passed with mocked extension responses. A persistent
browser restart retained public hashed-asset offline fallback while
refusing seeded legacy/current private entries and legacy HTML.
- Full `pnpm test:run`: 12,539 passed; 17 failed across six existing
files, stopping later phases. macOS read-only directory renames fail in
runtime-skill-cache and company-skills-service; email tests require an
absent local AgentMail fixture. Native runner/comment-redaction passed
in isolation after temporary Rust setup; agent-conversations also passed
in isolation. No unrelated source was changed to hide failures.
- After rebase, two unchanged chat timing tests failed in CI and passed
locally in isolation. Their CI shard passed on its single retry. All
other current-head CI jobs passed on the initial run; review is 5/5 with
no unresolved threads.
- No live deployment or external plugin service was used.
## Risks
- Plugins are trusted code. The catalog detects packaging errors; it
does not authenticate an untrusted image builder.
- Invalid catalogs fail startup. Images must contain the catalog and
bundles together, with stable directories.
- A host older than this contract lacks the activation guard. Disable
added plugins and remove their configuration keys before reverting to
it.
- Offline navigation now returns 503 instead of replaying cached
application HTML. Only public build assets have offline fallback.
- Rolling back an unapproved permission change retains the approval
gate; review the current manifest and explicitly enable it. A reduced
permission set cannot establish prior approval or prior enabled status.
- Plugin data migrations need their own rollback policy. This change
retains installed records and does not reverse migrations.
## Model Used
- OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), model ID `gpt-6`, with repository inspection,
code execution and browser verification. The runtime does not expose an
exact context-window size.

feat(onboarding): ClipLab sleepy-to-wake hero and step hand-offs (#13629)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents have a persistent visual identity (#13171): a ClipLab character in one of 17 palettes, rendered as cached PNGs in lists and as a live character in larger placements. > - The onboarding wizard is where a person meets that identity first, and it showed a stock ClipLab expression on the previous engine while the rest of the app would show a different character on a newer one. > - The wizard's steps also cut from one screen to the next, so the arc read as separate pages rather than one walk. > - This pull request puts one character on one engine everywhere, gives the wizard's hero the studio's sleepy → wink → idle sequence on Review, and hands the steps over inside one presence. > - The benefit is that what wakes on Review is exactly what the agent looks like on the dashboard afterwards, and the walk to it reads as one screen changing. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13171, now merged into master. This PR contains the onboarding and ClipLab update on top of that foundation. Original feature work by @tonio-alucema; merge preparation preserves the original commits. **Problem or motivation** The onboarding hero and the app's avatars were two different characters on two different ClipLab engines. Steps 1 → 4 of the wizard cut between screens, and the wizard mounted cold when a cloud-managed workspace arrived from Cloud's naming screen. **Proposed solution** Vendor ClipLab v0.2.0 as the shared engine and render one studio-exported character from it in every palette, for every pose and size. Play the export's one-shot wake on Review with the palette fading in over the gray dormant loop. Hand steps over inside one presence so the footer slides instead of jumping, and play the arrival half of that hand-off when the wizard opens directly on the agent step. **Alternatives considered** Exporting mp4/webm loops per size: no cursor following, no clean alpha, and the palette "colour in" is a runtime blend. Minting a `cap-v2` character version: nothing had shipped `cap-v1`, so the artwork is regenerated in place instead of migrated. Keeping the separately vendored runtime bundle for the hero: two engines and two characters in one app. ## What Changed - `packages/shared/src/cliplab`: re-vendored from ClipLab v0.2.0 (`987b6db0`) with the Paperclip adaptations replayed (optional graphics backend for the Node SVG snapshot path, supersampled live textures, character framing, deterministic SVG id prefixes); new upstream `particles.ts`. - `packages/shared/src/cliplab/character.ts`: the studio export, mirrored from `ui/src/assets/cliplab/onboarding.character.json` by `scripts/sync-cliplab-character.mjs` (drift caught by `check:token-gates`). `characterDefinition` builds every palette from it; the resting portrait is its idle beat. - `OnboardingCharacter`: gray `sleepy` loop through the agent and connect steps; on Review the one-shot sleepy → wink → idle plays on two lock-step canvases while the palette fades in, then the `idle` loop. Body-follows the pointer, page-scoped. 160px in the wizard. - `OnboardingWizard`: steps 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 hand over inside one `AnimatePresence` (departing content fades and gives its room back; arriving content opens its room then fills); the hero has a room that opens on the walk into the agent step; opening directly on the agent step plays the arrival half; the self-hosted naming step uses the arc's label and field. - Motion vocabulary in `onboarding-motion.ts` (`stepContentMotion`, `ledeMotion`, `heroRoomMotion`, `heroRoomArrival`, `titleSwapMotion`). - Storybook: `Onboarding / Character` (Wake Up), `Onboarding / Agent arc` walkable from the naming step plus `Arrive From Cloud`; the companies fixture answers the wizard's create call with a company. - Uses the shared runtime for onboarding; `doc/agent-personas.md` documents the shared character. - Releases both onboarding canvases after partial startup or transition failure. Registers each canvas before seeking so synchronous render errors can release it. Six component tests cover these failures and palette changes before or during wake. - Refreshes both sleeping canvases when the palette changes, including a palette change in the same render as wake. - Moves choreography values into the CSS token layer and preserves the shared motion catalog drift check across the imported stylesheet. - Repairs the static Storybook avatar route and uses accessible heading names/current button labels in the wizard play functions. - Closes the lazy avatar worker pool during application shutdown. ## Verification - Merge-preparation checks: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. The final UI typecheck and 123 focused onboarding, lifecycle, and token catalog tests pass. All 55 checks on final head `b4f5e201a1564083d163abc6f93f5b3da06ccefd` pass, including the full sharded test suite, runner verification, and all eight browser shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35445430535)). The duplicate monolithic local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI completed; it is not claimed as a separate completed local run. - Chromium walkthrough: palette change, wake, return to sleep, WebGL failure fallback, Review step hand-offs and cloud arrival pass with normal and reduced motion; no browser errors. The signoff happy-path browser test also passes against a disposable instance. - The final CI run confirms the catalog fix and a passing signoff browser shard. The earlier signoff failure was a heartbeat-run availability timeout; the focused local reproduction and final CI passed without signoff code changes. - Original author verification: - `pnpm check:token-gates` (includes the new character sync check); shared, server avatar/persona (17) and UI onboarding/persona (137) suites pass; `pnpm build-storybook` packages all 3,564 avatar PNGs through the worker pipeline. - Storybook: `Agents / Personas` Sizes, Expressions and Palettes render the studio character at every size and pose; `Onboarding / Character → Wake Up` plays the wake on the shared engine; `Onboarding / Agent arc` walks 1 → 4 with the hand-offs, and `Arrive From Cloud` plays the arrival (measured: content room 6 → 65px over 320ms, fade to 1.0 by ~560ms, footer travel continuous). - The original author walked the agent → connect → review flow and wake after a real sign-in on staging. - Not done here: the Linux Storybook visual baselines (`tests/storybook-visual/agent-personas.spec.ts`) need re-baselining for the new engine, hero size and naming-step changes. ## Risks - Every avatar's pixels change (new engine, new character) under the unchanged `cap-v1` name. Stacks that rendered avatars on the previous engine keep those PNGs in their cache (`generated-agent-avatars/cap-v1/...`, served immutable) until cleared; only the two pinned staging stacks ever did. - The one-shot handoff to the idle loop is timed from the sequence's authored duration (the engine reports completion by continuing into idle itself); presentation only, nothing in the wizard's state waits on it. - Reduced motion skips the wake and the hand-offs; jsdom is treated the same way, so the wizard tests see the next step's content immediately. - The committed export differs from the studio by one animation (Loop off, leading idle step removed); a re-export without that fix would play a 5.6s idle before the wake. ## Model Used Original feature: Anthropic Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`) in Claude Code, with shell, browser, and file tools. The original context window was not recorded. Merge preparation and lifecycle regression fixes: OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, shell execution, file editing, GitHub CLI, and automated tests. The session does not expose an exact runtime model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(chat): simplify Slack onboarding and account linking (#13638)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat connections let people start and continue that work from Slack. > - Setup mixed app creation, credentials, URL verification, account linking, and testing on the same screens. > - People also needed a safe way to link their own Slack identity after the first operator finished setup. > - This pull request gives each step a clear place and keeps membership approval separate from identity linking. > - It also makes connection details easier to use and fixes misleading callback health behind HTTPS proxies. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: chat routes and services, shared contracts, and the Apps board UI. **Problem or motivation** Slack onboarding made users find settings without enough guidance. A second user needed operator help to link their account. Activity stopped at 100 records, and TLS termination could mark working callbacks as stale. **Proposed solution** Use six setup steps with editable app names, a generated manifest, credential guidance, URL verification, account linking, and an optional message test. Send each Slack user a private, expiring confirmation link. Require company membership or an approved access request before linking. Add cursor pagination and tolerate the internal HTTP hop in callback diagnostics. **Roadmap alignment** This improves the existing connected-app surface and supports CEO Chat without changing the task-and-comments model. The maintainer requested and reviewed the flow during a live Slack test drive. **Additional context** Related work: #7, #3349, #13000, and #13620. Those cover broader chat capabilities, older webhook paths, or plugins. This PR improves the existing native connector's setup and account-linking flow. HTTPS documentation was published separately in paperclipai/paperclip-docs#128. ## What Changed - Split Slack onboarding into six clickable sidebar steps. Keep secondary and primary actions on one row. - Generate the Slack creation link and read-only manifest from editable app, bot, and command names. Add credential prefix validation and direct instructions. - Add live account-link status and an optional mention-based message test. - Add private, single-use Slack account invitations and membership access requests. Retain cloud authentication/bootstrap checks and enforce the chat rollout flag in all identity APIs. Default new Slack connections to linked users only. - Put Settings, Access, Conversations, and Activity in the sidebar. Simplify conversation rows and remove active header badges. - Add 25-item activity pages, stable timestamp/ID cursors, and replay safety across pages. Preserve the legacy array API for clients without pagination parameters. - Fix false callback warnings when HTTPS terminates at a proxy. Keep host, port, and path drift detection. - Document the setup flow, pagination, callback diagnostics, and shared wizard footer rule. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates`. - Passed: focused Slack callback and pagination integration tests; UI clipboard, wizard, pagination, and activity tests; OpenAPI route tests. The final access-gate fix also passes 27 focused tests covering cloud authentication/bootstrap, nonmember invitations, token validity, and the server-enforced rollout flag. - Passed: all 1,002 chat integration tests, 6,356 UI tests, and all 11 provider browser scenarios (including mobile light/dark navigation). After rebase, the identity route, sidebar, and 25 clipboard tests pass. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted. The first run found 14 Slack fixtures that needed explicit guest access; those are fixed and the complete chat suite passes. Unrelated embedded PostgreSQL startup/resource failures and timeouts prevented a clean full local run. All CI checks pass on `2d858b036`, including the full chat, server, workspace, build, typecheck, and browser suites. - Live test drive: Slack app creation, credential setup, URL verification, private account confirmation, mention messages, and thread replies. Verified the callback warning clears for the existing proxied connection. - Review: create a Slack connection, follow the six steps, link a second user's account, and browse older activity with Next and Previous. ## Risks - Identity invitations carry a temporary capability. Tokens are hashed, expire after 15 minutes, work once, and require explicit confirmation by a company member. Access requests do not grant membership. - New Slack connections reject unlinked people by default. Existing connection settings remain intact. - Activity is a live ledger. Updated action rows can move forward in time. Older pages do not poll. - Proxy tolerance affects health display only. Slack signature checks and proxy authentication settings remain unchanged. - No database migration or package-lock changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The runtime does not expose an exact model build ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full local-run limitations documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(task-chat): selecting an option no longer jumps to the next question (#13602)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An agent that needs a decision asks in the task composer, which renders a question set one question per page > - Single-choice questions use radio options, and the composer also ships a "Next" button and pagination arrows > - Selecting a radio option also set a pending advance, waited for a short confirm animation, and turned the page on its own > - That takes the page away from the reader while they are still reading it, and a misclick costs them the question > - Nothing on the option says that clicking it will navigate > - This pull request makes selection answer the question and nothing else > - The benefit is that moving between questions is always something the reader chose to do ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** In the task composer, selecting an option with a radio button jumps to the next question. `QuestionForm.toggleOption()` set `pendingAdvance` for any single-select question that was not on the last page, and an effect then read `--motion-question-confirm`, waited that long, and called `setPage(page + 1)`. With reduced motion it advanced immediately, with no pause at all. The result is that a click meant to answer a question also navigates away from it. There is no way to read the rest of the page after choosing, and no way to undo the jump other than pressing the back arrow. **Expected behavior** Selecting an option records the answer and stays on the question. Moving to the next question stays an explicit act. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Get an agent to ask a question set with two or more single-choice questions. 2. Open the question in the task composer. 3. Click one of the radio options. 4. Before this change the composer moves to the next question on its own. **Paperclip version or commit** `45586170e` on `master`. **Deployment mode** Local. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific (core bug). **Additional context** Every route forward already shipped beside the options, so removing the shortcut traps no one: - a footer button that reads "Next" on any page but the last, and the submit label on the last; - previous and next pagination arrows; - "Skip" on questions that are not required. The same question sets render outside the composer in `IssueThreadInteractionCard`, which never had the auto-advance. This change brings the two surfaces to the same behavior. ## What Changed - `QuestionForm` no longer sets a pending advance when a single-choice option is selected. The effect that turned the page is removed with it. - Selecting an option still clears a submit error about a missing answer, which is the case that error is about. - The confirm-before-advance animation existed only to soften the jump. Its `--motion-question-confirm` token, its keyframes, its class, and the now-unused `confirming` prop on the option button are removed. - Tests that asserted the jump now assert the opposite: selection leaves the page number unchanged, "Next" advances, and number-key selection stays on the same question. ## Verification - `npx vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat` — the composer, interaction card, protocol card, and motion token suites pass. - `npx vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposer.test.tsx` — 87 tests pass, including four new tests for the stationary behavior. - `npx tsc -b ui` — clean. - Keyboard: options keep `role="radio"` inside a `radiogroup`, and a test asserts that number-key selection selects without navigating. ## Risks Low. One deliberate behavior is removed. It costs a reader one extra click per question on multi-question sets, and the explicit control for that click already existed and is already tested. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), 1M context, extended thinking, with tool use and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: add native in-app announcements with persistent dismissal (#13403)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Self-hosted boards need a way to show occasional product announcements. > - An app release should not be required to publish or withdraw a card. > - Native card controls keep publishing consistent; the hero can use a static image or isolated HTML/CSS animation. > - This pull request renders a validated JSON feed with native components. > - It stores dismissals per account on each instance, so a closed card stays closed across companies and browsers. > - Named staging feeds let authors test content before production publication. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Board application shell, announcement delivery, and user preferences. **Problem or motivation** Operators need a small, optional announcement card. Users need reliable dismissal state. Authors need to test remote content without changing the production feed. **Proposed solution** Add one non-modal AnnouncementWell. Fetch validated JSON and content-addressed media through the instance server. Keep card controls native, with optional sandboxed HTML/CSS animation in the hero. Use stable announcement IDs for dismissal, an explicit empty manifest and quiet 404 handling. Provide a staged publishing helper and isolated test-drive guide. **Alternatives considered** Hosting the entire card as a page would move navigation and dismissal into remote content. This change limits HTML to a scriptless, isolated visual hero and keeps controls native. Browser-only storage would lose dismissals across browsers, so the instance stores account preferences. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md has no overlapping announcement feature. A GitHub title search found no related announcement pull requests. This work implements a maintainer-requested feature. ## What Changed - Add shared feed types, strict validation of every object, supported routes, expiration and version checks. - Add a board-only current-feed API, constrained media proxy, and idempotent dismissal API. Store the first dismissal and its company audit entry in one transaction. - Cache upstream data for one hour. Use conditional requests, request deduplication, response limits, public destination checks, and a three-second deadline. Treat a remote 404 as an empty feed with a fifteen-minute retry cooldown. - Keep announcement visibility stable when focus moves to browser chrome or another app pane; only tab visibility starts a return check. - Add a responsive native announcement card. Respect onboarding, dialogs and toast placement. Sync pending dismissals across tabs and retry after reconnect or return. - Add idempotent migrations for dismissals and validated publication IDs, design-guide examples, static and animated Storybook examples, and focused tests. The publication registry supports offline retries without accepting caller-invented IDs. - Add HTML/CSS animated heroes with static posters, automatic playback, reduced-motion handling, strict DOMPurify validation, an empty iframe sandbox and CSP that blocks scripts/network resources. - Add validated staging publication, content-addressed assets, an empty production manifest, preview fixtures, and authoring/operator documentation. ## Verification - The preceding implementation passed 98 targeted shared/server/publisher/route/OpenAPI/UI tests and 127 tests including the master rebase. The playback-control removal passes all 21 announcement UI tests, covering the rendered sandbox, fallback, reduced motion, dismissal and slow/stale state lookups. The preceding shared/server tests cover HTML validation and response sandbox headers. - The playback-control removal passes UI typecheck, production UI build, Storybook build and token gates locally. Browser verification confirms the animated card has only its dismiss button and two links, with no page errors. The full canonical CI matrix passed on current head `00e416431edb610861599d50490270bbd0f3c6b6`: 32 successful checks and two optional Storybook deployment checks skipped. This run needed no retries. Greptile reviewed this same head at 5/5 with no outstanding findings. - The local canonical general-server run passed 12,063 tests before reporting embedded-PostgreSQL startup failures in an unrelated fixture. All 31 tests in that fixture passed across isolated retries. The UI group passed 6,219 tests and other workspace groups passed 3,201; two CLI database-startup failures also passed individually. Serialized server suites were verified by the full CI matrix rather than repeating them locally. No source changes were needed for these environment failures. - The real S3/CloudFront staging manifest and both media asset headers were verified. Production remains empty/unpublished. The guide distinguishes the preview host's disabled edge cache from production cache requirements. - In the isolated test-drive, the animation visibly moves without playback controls. A 390×844 browser viewport keeps the card above navigation. Reduced motion makes no animation request. Both themes render correctly and browser page errors are empty. Browser fault injection verified that scripts cannot execute and CSS cannot make network requests; a missing animation leaves its poster and controls. - Refresh leaves the animated card visible. Closing it persists after reload and the API returns null. Earlier live checks verified dismissal across browsers, company-relative CTA navigation, modal deferral/restoration, and new-ID eligibility after restarting the same database. - The deployed empty feed and a real remote 404 return HTTP 200 with null from the board API, with a usable dashboard and no announcement popup or browser warnings. - Authoring documentation covers staging, animated HTML constraints, test-drive, withdrawal, ID reuse and cache-refresh steps. ## Risks - Animation supports self-contained visual HTML/CSS and inline SVG, without JavaScript or external resources. A static image is required. Older builds that do not recognize the optional animation field quietly hide that unsupported feed. - The default feed makes an outbound request from an instance when a board is used. Operators can disable it. Requests contain no account IDs, company data, cookies or interaction events. - Feed publication and withdrawal can take about 65 minutes to reach returning users because of CDN and instance caches. Expiration also removes visible cards locally. - Dismissals follow an account within one instance. No-login instances share the existing local-board identity. Separate installations do not share state. - Both tables are additive. A unique key prevents duplicate dismissals; the transaction prevents duplicate first-dismissal audit entries. The publication registry retains only validated IDs. AGENTS.md and the implementation spec document the required exception to company scope for these instance-level records. - Publication was limited to separate public staging prefixes on the existing preview host. Production remains empty/unpublished. No AWS policies or infrastructure were changed. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. feat(ui): refine dashboard cards, charts, and recent lists (#13269)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators use the dashboard and Live runs page to inspect current and recent runs. > - Large transcript cards take space and make it hard to compare run states. > - A compact card must show the agent, linked task, and time, with access to run details. > - This pull request applies the supplied card design to both views. > - Operators can scan more runs and open a run or task for details. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The agent run cards on the dashboard and Live runs page, plus dashboard charts and recent lists. **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React board UI. **Current behavior** Both views show large cards with embedded transcripts. Queued and running cards share a live treatment. The dashboard chart grid leaves an empty column, recent lists use different row sizes, and some activity labels expose raw event names. **Proposed behavior** Both views use the same compact grid. Each card shows the existing initials avatar, the agent name, one linked task row, and a right-aligned timestamp. There is no status chip next to the agent name. The timestamp uses small Inter text and the same muted gray as dashboard metric descriptions. Recovery details remain in the task view. Run status remains in the header tooltip and accessible label, and run transcripts remain in the run detail view. The shared in-progress task icon is now an animated circular spinner across the app. **Reason and benefit** Operators can scan task states without scrolling through embedded output. The in-progress spinner keeps the shared task icon sizes, circular shape, and stroke width. It honors reduced-motion preferences. **Breaking changes** The dashboard and Live runs page no longer show transcripts inside cards. Open the agent header to inspect a run. There are no API or database changes. **Additional context** Related public work found during the duplicate search: - Refs #4317 — related run-state display concerns. This change does not change server state reconciliation. - Refs #11394 — related live-run cache updates. This change retains the existing data flow. - Refs #2118 — related navigation from agent cards. The card header here opens the specific run. ## What Changed - Apply compact cards to the dashboard and Live runs page, with status icons and theme tokens. - Use 16 × 16px status icons in the shared cards, including the missing-task clock. - Keep the existing circular initials avatar. Remove the status chip beside the agent name while preserving the run label for tooltips and accessibility. - Replace the shared in-progress task glyph with an animated open circle. Use the same 10-unit radius and 2-unit stroke as the other task glyphs, with a reduced-motion guard across all task status surfaces. This is the requested workflow-status indicator across the app, including between runs; live indicators separately report active execution. - Use the same Tailwind blue tokens as nav dots and Live labels for the progress icon: blue-400 in dark mode and blue-600 in light mode. Covered-blocked icons follow the same blue token. - Match the Tasks by Status chart's In Progress bar and legend to the spinner's theme-aware color token. - Distribute the three visible dashboard charts across equal-width desktop columns, preserving existing gaps, card padding, and page margins. Retain four columns when the optional priority chart is enabled. - Use the done task icon's `--status-task-icon-done` token for green bars in Run Activity, Tasks by Status, and Success Rate, including their legends. - Use the blocked task icon's `--status-task-icon-blocked` token for red bars and legends in Run Activity, Tasks by Status, Success Rate, and priority charts. - Align Recent Tasks live counts to the sidebar's right edge. Reveal the ellipsis over a fading row surface on hover, keyboard focus, and while its menu is open, without moving the label or count. - Keep the ellipsis backdrop synchronized with the row background during fade-out, using the actual sidebar surface in both themes to prevent a darker flash. - On coarse-pointer devices, reserve space for the always-visible ellipsis and disable its fade so the live count remains readable beside it. - Order desktop dashboard Recent Tasks as status icon, task title, agent avatar/name, 11px monospace task ID, then timestamp. In narrow cards, keep the ID right-aligned beside the truncated title and place the agent and timestamp on the second line. - Give both dashboard lists the same 48px desktop rows, 24px leading slots, 80px desktop task ID columns, and 64px right-aligned timestamp columns. Use an 8px icon-to-content gap matching the task detail heading. Narrow layouts use matching 76px rows with intrinsic-width IDs on the title line; activity timestamps stay below. - Order dashboard Recent Activity as actor avatar, actor name, verb, task title, 11px monospace task ID, then timestamp. Use direct verbs such as “Board read …” instead of “issue read marked”. Truncate titles to preserve IDs and timestamps; keep full names and titles in tooltips. - Use 12px task status icons in the top breadcrumb and Properties status row. Keep the main task title icon at 20px. - Reduce monospace task IDs to the 11px micro type token in breadcrumbs and shared run cards, aligning them to the adjacent task titles' text baseline while keeping status icons centered. - Show the task title and identifier in one bordered row. Keep missing-task links usable and show lookup failures. - Remove the recovery chip and place the timestamp below the task row. - Keep the link to all runs available when the dashboard has four or fewer runs. - Avoid transcript polling for compact cards. - Fix bundled Inter font URLs and update the design guide and Storybook fixtures. - Cover run navigation, task status, failed lookups, shared icon sizes and stroke, and reduced-motion-safe animation in tests. ## Verification - Latest review fixes: targeted SidebarRecentTasks, SidebarNavItem, StatusGlyph, StatusIcon, ActiveAgentsPanel, activity-format, ui-font-assets, and Dashboard suites — 65 tests pass, including read/unread verbs and reduced-motion-safe task animation. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passes. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates pass. - `git diff --check` — passes. - Related component suites passed during development: run cards, status glyphs, breadcrumbs, issue properties, charts, sidebar navigation, recent-task actions, and settings sidebar. - Full repository `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass on the final commit using the temporary Rust toolchain. Storybook build passed earlier in preparation. - All CI gates pass on `c85e949b12b471d425d216caa609aee41dc58bde`: all general/workspace and serialized server test shards, all three browser shards, build/runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary dry run, policy, and security checks. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI completed the same test suites; it is not claimed as a completed local pass. The two Storybook jobs are skipped by the configured draft-PR workflow. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5 with no actionable findings and zero unresolved review threads. - Browser measurements at 1654px, 860px, and 390px confirm matching 48px desktop and 76px narrow rows (plus 1px dividers), right-aligned IDs on the title line, 64px timestamp slots, and no horizontal overflow. Narrow Recent Tasks rows retain readable agent names below the title. Activity reads as actor, verb, title, ID, time. Additional reference details can expand an activity row. - Verified three equal-width desktop charts with 16px gaps and aligned outer edges. Chart blues, greens, and reds resolve to the matching task-icon tokens. - Verified real queued, running, succeeded, failed, cancelled, and timed-out runs in the dev dashboard. Checked compact cards, task/run links, timestamps, light/dark themes, and narrow layout. - To inspect: open Dashboard, then Live runs. Both pages use the same small cards. Open an agent header for run output, or the task row for task details. - Verified the updated spinner on the real dashboard cards, Recent tasks, and task list. Checked actual SVG circle radius, rendered size, and stroke width. Confirmed the spinner, nav dots, and Live labels resolve to the identical blue-400 color in the dark-mode preview; light mode uses their shared blue-600 token. - Verified 12px computed width and height in the task breadcrumb and Properties pane, the restored 20px main task icon, and 11px task IDs with baseline alignment in the breadcrumb and shared dashboard/Live runs cards. - Verified the chart bar and legend resolve to the spinner color; Recent Tasks counts align with Dashboard's count. Checked the fading ellipsis overlay with keyboard focus and its open-menu state, then dismissed the menu. ## Risks - Operators must open run details to read output that was previously embedded. - Run outcomes are available in the header tooltip and run details instead of a visible status chip. An in-progress task icon reflects task status, independently of an individual run's outcome. - Long names and task titles truncate within the compact layout. Full labels remain available through links and tooltips. - Font loading changes affect all UI text that uses the bundled Inter font. The files remain served from the existing public fonts directory. - No schema, API, adapter, or execution-policy changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with extended reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The session does not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Scott Tong <scott@scotts-mbp-m5-max.local> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): show one rolling runner activity per commentary group (#13255)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task chat shows commentary and runner activity as work proceeds. > - The expanded activity list uses multiple text lines and an indented rail. > - The folded view can repeat reasoning and the current tool in separate places. > - This pull request shows one rolling activity between commentary messages. > - Users can open a group to follow its full history and inspect each item. > - The benefit is a compact feed with aligned icons and stable row height. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The runner activity groups in task chat, during live work and in saved history. **Current behavior** Activity is spread across a group summary, a reasoning ticker, and a current-tool row. Expanded rows have different alignment and can span several lines. **Proposed behavior** Keep one latest activity per commentary group. Roll new activities upward. Keep each expanded history row on one line. Use neutral failure text without an X icon. Keep the full details available by opening an individual row. **Additional context** Refs: #13246. That open PR covers related folded activity, steering timestamps, and status alignment. This change implements the separately reviewed activity-group design, including animated replacement, single-line expanded history, and neutral failures. It does not change steering timestamps or status pills. ## What Changed - Add a shared runner activity group with persistent expansion and reduced-motion support. - Use the group in the production runner turn and remove duplicate narration and current-tool rows. - Preserve commentary, plan cards, request receipts, and final-response placement. - Keep tool output, reasoning, research sources, file previews, and failure details accessible. - Render the production turn in desktop and mobile animated Storybook fixtures. - Add tests for animation identity, failure visibility, expansion persistence, and timeline order. - Validate resource link schemes and omit disclosure controls for items with no details. ## Verification - Focused activity, runner turn, protocol detail, and task-thread tests pass: 161 tests. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - Browser checks confirm a 32-pixel compact row, centered icons, and one-line expanded rows. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The final UI build also passes. - Two real native Codex runs completed in an isolated local instance. Each run created the expected file, performed separate delayed tool calls, reported a deliberate missing-file failure, recovered, and finished the task. - Browser verification confirmed that the open three-row activity group remained expanded after the second run moved into saved history. Saved error output remained accessible without red styling or an X. - The complete UI suite passes: 581 files and 5,979 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passes for the final production fixtures. - Greptile rates the latest commit 5/5, with zero new comments and no unresolved review threads. The security scan passes. - All repository test shards pass in CI. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI completed the full test coverage. The CI build failed twice because the worker ran out of disk space compiling the Rust runner tests (`No space left on device`, error 28). The build and its aggregate verify gate remain blocked by CI capacity. GitHub squash auto-merge is enabled and will wait for required checks to pass. ## Risks - This changes presentation and disclosure behavior. Users open a group to see earlier activity. - Animation uses stable item IDs. A provider that replaces IDs can trigger another transition. - No API, database, or runner protocol contracts change. > Reviewed `ROADMAP.md`. This improves an existing task-chat surface. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix workspace-ready notice rendering (#12716)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - The task thread shows user, agent, and control-plane messages. > - Workspace-ready comments keep agent attribution for audit and authorization. > - These comments also have an explicit system-notice presentation. > - The client used attribution before the presentation contract. > - As a result, workspace-ready comments appeared as agent bubbles. > - This pull request gives the system-notice presentation priority. > - The benefit is a compact workspace notice with expandable details. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The task thread showed a workspace-ready control-plane comment as a normal agent message. The comment kept agent attribution for audit and authorization, so the client did not use its system-notice presentation. **Expected behavior** The task thread must show a comment with the `system_notice` presentation as a compact system notice. The user must be able to expand the notice to inspect its details. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with a workspace that becomes ready. 2. Wait for the control plane to add the workspace-ready comment. 3. Observe that the task thread shows the comment as an agent bubble instead of a system notice. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `8eaa5caa0`. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`). **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific. This is a core UI bug. ## What Changed - Give the `system_notice` presentation priority when the task-chat adapter selects the message kind. - Pass the notice presentation data to the task-chat model. - Improve the compact and expanded workspace notice details. - Add component tests, adapter tests, and Storybook cases for workspace notices. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat/task-chat-adapter.test.ts ui/src/components/task-chat/TaskChatSystemNotice.test.tsx` passes 15 tests. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. - `pnpm build` passes. - `pnpm test:run` passes 5,670 tests and reports four pre-existing workspace-runtime failures. The same four failures reproduce when the two unrelated server test files run alone. They do not use the changed task-chat files. ## Risks - Risk is low. Normal agent messages still use the agent presentation. - A comment with an explicit system-notice presentation now uses the compact notice renderer. - Regression tests cover both paths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 (`gpt-5`) through Codex. The agent used reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The runtime did not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): advance single-choice questions on selection (#13234)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents ask structured questions in task threads and the composer. > - The shared form shows one question at a time. > - A single choice already completes an answer, but the form requires another click on Next. > - This pull request moves to the next question when the user selects one option. > - Multi-select and custom answers keep their Next step. The last page keeps explicit submission. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The paged question form in the task composer and task interaction cards. **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React board UI. **Current behavior** The user clicks a single choice, then clicks Next to reach the next question. **Proposed behavior** A single choice shows its checked state for 160 ms, then opens the next question with an 80 ms fade. Reduced-motion mode skips the animation. Multi-select stays on the current page until Next. Other stays open for typing. The last question waits for Submit answers. **Reason and benefit** Remove an extra click from each single-choice question while preserving explicit submission. **Breaking changes** Single-choice selection now changes the page. Answer payloads and APIs do not change. The user can return to earlier answers with the previous arrow. **Additional context** Related work: #12640 introduced the task workspace. No duplicate auto-advance change was found. ## What Changed - Confirm a single-choice answer with a brief radio animation and row highlight, then fade into the next page and focus the new question. - Use motion tokens for the 160 ms confirmation and 80 ms page fade. Honor reduced motion and cancel pending advances when the user changes direction or closes the form. - Lightly highlight every selected row with a foreground tint that remains visible against the composer in both themes, for single-select and multi-select answers. - Preserve multi-select, custom answers, back navigation, and final submission. - Ignore repeated number-key events and selection during an upload or submission. - Update composer and card tests. Add interactive and verified composer stories to the existing interaction Storybook group. - Document the Storybook scenario in the developer guide. ## Verification - Focused composer, card, and motion-catalog tests: 121 passed, including animation timing and cancellation. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm build-storybook`: passed. Browser interaction story: passed with the selection animation enabled. - Selected-row refinement: 121 focused tests, token gates, and Storybook build passed. Browser inspection confirmed row highlighting for single-select and multiple selected checkboxes, plus light-theme contrast. - Manual browser check: select SQLite, select two features, click Next, select Now, then submit. The summary contains every answer. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - All 31 remote checks passed on the latest commit (`04a3f3983`), including typecheck, general and serialized tests, production build/native-runner verification, canary validation, and browser tests. Two optional Storybook deployment/visual jobs were skipped. Greptile reviewed the same commit at 5/5 with no actionable findings. The selected-row highlight refinement is included in that verification. - Animation refinement: UI typecheck, UI build, token gates, and 121 focused tests passed. - The broader UI run had 5,940 passing tests and three failures in unchanged Inbox/IssuesList tests. Both affected suites passed in isolation (73/73), including all three previously failing cases. - The broad local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after reproducing the native-runner failure below and after the full remote suite passed. It is not a clean local full-suite result. - Local runner limitation: `server/src/services/native-runtime/native-session-resume.test.ts` has one reproducible failure in unchanged code. The damaged-epoch recovery test expects `run.attach requires a settled Codex provider session`; the runner instead reports `semantic tool input content digest does not match its transmitted input` at line 1019. After building the missing fake provider with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner build:rust`, the isolated suite has 36 passing tests and this one failure. No server or runner files changed in this PR. ## Risks - Selecting a single choice changes the visible question after a brief checked-state confirmation. Back navigation preserves the choice so it can be edited. - The final page still requires Submit answers. Selecting Other still requires text and explicit progress. - No database, server, API, or dependency changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and browser verification. Exact serving revision and context window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: verify ACP Stop and preserve safe continuation (#13119)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task controls coordinate provider execution and queued user messages. > - Stop could finish before an embedded ACP provider stopped its tools. > - A later request could be held for reconciliation without a clear task response. > - A restored provider could also retain the stopped run's API credential. > - This pull request verifies provider termination and preserves safe session continuation. > - Operators can continue known-safe work and see why uncertain work cannot start. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Stop could leave an embedded ACP provider running. A queued follow-up followed by “go” could fail before it reached the provider. Task chat could show a generic missing-response message. Even a restored session could use the previous run's credential and fail its task update. **Expected behavior** Stop waits for confirmed provider termination. A later explicit wake continues the same compatible session only when recorded actions have known outcomes. It carries pending comments and the current run's environment. Uncertain actions retain a visible reconciliation hold. Composer Stop preserves the existing pause rule: conversation can continue while paused, but task work requires Resume. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start an embedded ACP task. 2. Send a second request while the provider is running. 3. Interrupt the run, then send “go”. Also test composer Stop followed by Resume work. 4. Check that the request is delivered once and that the provider can complete the task through the current run's API credential. 5. Repeat with an unfinished write. Confirm that the write stops and that further execution stays blocked with a visible reason. **Paperclip version or commit** Built from source on master at `3bc60dd8b` plus this branch. **Deployment mode** Local source build with an isolated embedded PostgreSQL instance. Refs #11183. Refs #12552. Those changes address recovery after operator cancellation. This change also covers embedded ACP termination, session proof, pending-comment delivery, and task feedback. ## What Changed - Propagate Stop into embedded ACP and wait for bounded adapter cleanup and provider exit. Retain the actual ChildProcess object for forced termination on all platforms; never signal a recycled numeric PID. - Preserve interrupted checkpoints only for acknowledged, local, persistent sessions with settled reads or no tools. Keep writes, incomplete actions, and forced termination blocked. - Restore the same compatible provider session with the current run's environment. Reject fresh-session fallback for an interrupted checkpoint. - Adopt pending comments on the next explicit wake. Stop alone does not dispatch them. - Share the execution-blocker rule across dispatch, Resume, and task detail. Show Stopped or Couldn't start with the recorded reason. Resolve the stopped agent for the run link, including reviewer runs. - Keep execution reconciliation holds intact when generic recovery sees queued comments or healthy child tasks. - Add process, service, component, and browser regression coverage. Fix disposable database cleanup and React test settling exposed by the full suite. ## Verification - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates`. - Passed all three `acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts` browser journeys. They use an actual ACP child process and require task completion through the agent API. - Passed 165 adapter execution, operator-stop, and child-process control tests, 17 queued-comment route tests, and 65 tests in the two adjusted UI suites. Earlier focused recovery, heartbeat, and task-control tests also passed. - Manually used the browser to queue a request, Stop, send “go” while paused, and Resume. The same session answered once and moved the task to Done with the current run's credential. - Manually interrupted an unfinished write. Its file size stayed fixed for five seconds. “Go” showed the reconciliation reason and did not start another provider prompt. - Separate live Claude ACP smoke checks confirmed that Stop ended a disposable local write and that a no-tool interruption could resume the exact provider session. The browser fixture does not call Drive or another external app. - Passed all 5,615 UI tests and 3,090 other workspace tests. The CLI and general server groups pass with targeted retries: two transient server failures passed together on retry, and two embedded-database startup failures passed after removing abandoned shared-memory segments from this task's completed browser fixtures. All 144 serialized server suites completed, with 2,189 tests passing after two transient HTTP socket failures passed on retry. - Passed all 135 heartbeat process/recovery tests, including a deterministic regression that failed before the recovery-sweep fix. - Passed 18 dispatch integration tests, including stopped-reviewer links, company boundaries, and malformed run IDs. - Greptile is 5/5 on `7dd170d83`, with zero unresolved review threads. The security scan and all required CI gates pass for the same commit. ## Risks - Safe continuation depends on complete tool reporting and a restorable local provider session. Unknown outcomes remain blocked and require reconciliation. - Provider cleanup can take time. A timeout does not grant replay permission. - The change adds optional adapter context fields and an optional issue projection. It does not change the database schema or require a migration. - Test cleanup truncates company data only in a disposable test database. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6, running as Codex with repository tools, code execution, and browser interaction. The runtime does not expose a more specific model deployment ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(onboarding): first task opens as a chat with a chief of staff (#13068)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Onboarding ends by handing a new user to their first agent on a seeded first task > - Today the wizard asks for a mission up front, the UI composes what the agent is told, and the agent starts running before the user says anything > - New users get a cold, ticket-shaped start, and nobody can edit the agent's brief or persona without a code change > - This pull request makes the first task a short chat: a four-step wizard, a chief-of-staff persona, a greeting plus a two-option opening card, server-owned markdown texts, and no run until the user answers > - It also gives question cards one consistent action row (Cancel / Skip / Next), makes agent hires idempotent within a run, and turns the Paperclip Runner flag on by default for self-hosted instances > - The benefit is a first run the user steers, with texts a board operator can edit as markdown ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The feature request fields follow. Related PRs and issues: - Refs #11043 — an earlier draft of the first-task onboarding experience. This PR supersedes it. - Refs #11280 — a report about the onboarding first-task route test. This PR extends that test file. ### Subsystem affected Onboarding wizard, the seeded first task and its texts, task-chat question cards, agent hiring, and the instance experimental settings. ### Problem or motivation The onboarding wizard collects a mission through two extra steps and a questionnaire. The UI then composes the first agent's instructions and the first task description from those answers. The first task wakes the agent at once, so the agent runs and posts before the user types a word. Board operators cannot change the greeting, the brief, or the persona without editing TypeScript. Question cards in chat behave differently per adapter, and a single-select pick submits on click. A misread hire response could create a duplicate agent that the creating agent cannot remove. ### Proposed solution Reduce the wizard to four steps and stop the UI from authoring agent texts. Move the greeting, the brief, the chief-of-staff persona, and the opening question into markdown and JSON files that the server loads at runtime. Seed the persona onto the first agent through an explicit hire marker. Do not wake the first task until the user answers the opening card or types. Give every question card the same Cancel / Skip / Next actions. Add an experimental toggle that switches the single-task proposal between one confirmation card and a plan document with a checkbox card. Make agent hires idempotent within a run. ### Alternatives considered - Keep the mission questionnaire and feed it into the brief. Rejected: the agent asks better questions in chat, and the wizard gets shorter. - Keep the first task open-ended with a plain composer. Rejected: a two-option card gives the user a clear first move. - Derive the plan-document behaviour from the user's intent only. Rejected in favour of an explicit experimental toggle so operators can choose. - Key the "pick does not submit" behaviour off the presence of a submit label. Rejected: several adapters set a submit label on single-select cards, and their cards would change behaviour. ### Roadmap alignment `ROADMAP.md` lists no planned core work on onboarding or the first task. This change refines the existing flow and does not duplicate planned work. ## What Changed - Wizard: four steps (Name your organization, Create your first agent, Connect a model, Review). The front door and both mission steps are removed with their state and saved-progress keys. The UI no longer composes the first agent's instructions or the first task description. - Server-owned texts: the greeting, the brief with two proposal variants, the chief-of-staff persona, the opening question, and a README live in `server/src/onboarding-assets/first-task/` and load at runtime. The create route stores the assembled brief and ignores any client description. - Persona seed: an `onboardingFirstAgent` marker on the hire lets the server seed the chief-of-staff persona over the first agent's entry file. Board-authored hires only. The persona tells the agent the hire response shape and to list agents before it acts on an unclear result. - No auto-run: the first task does not queue an assignment wake. The stranded-assignment reconciler leaves it idle until a user comment or an answered card exists. - Opening card: the server seeds an `ask_user_questions` card right after the greeting with two options: "Interview me and propose a plan and an agent team to execute it." and "I have a task in mind" with free text. Answering wakes the agent. - Experimental toggle `enableFirstTaskPlanProposal` (default off): the single-task proposal is one confirmation card, or a plan document plus a checkbox card when on. - Question cards: every `ask_user_questions` card renders Cancel, Skip, and Next (the submit label on the last question). Skip hides on required questions. Picking an option no longer advances or submits by itself. - Wizard guards: the dashboard's agentless offer ignores a cached empty agent list while a refetch is in flight. The hire step adopts an agent that already carries the typed name instead of hiring "Name 2". - Agent hires are idempotent within a run: a retry of the identical request under the same run id returns the existing agent with `200` and `idempotent: true`. The fingerprint covers the whole validated request, so a corrected payload is a new hire. Lookup, create, and activity record run under one lock per company and run, so overlapping retries cannot both create. - The Paperclip Runner experimental flag defaults to on for self-hosted instances. Cloud keeps its declared default: a managed instance whose tenant row and managed overlay omit the flag resolves it to off. - Question cards: a send that finds an earlier required answer missing returns to that question with a message instead of failing silently. - The two onboarding e2e specs follow the new wizard: the front door and growth intake shots are gone, and the planning-mode spec dismisses the opening card before it reads the composer. - Docs: `docs/board-operator/editing-first-task-texts.md` explains how to edit the texts and the toggle. ## Verification Commands, run from the repo root: ``` pnpm -r --filter './packages/*' --filter '!@paperclipai/paperclip-runner' build pnpm --filter ./packages/shared typecheck pnpm --filter ./ui typecheck pnpm --filter ./server exec tsc --noEmit pnpm check:token-gates pnpm --filter ./ui exec vitest run OnboardingWizard onboarding QuestionForm InteractionCard ProtocolCard TaskChatComposer Dashboard feature PAPERCLIP_IN_WORKTREE=false pnpm --filter ./server exec vitest run onboarding-first-task heartbeat-process-recovery agent-hire-idempotency instance-settings agent-skills-routes issue-onboarding onboarding-greeting --testTimeout=90000 ``` Results on this branch: - Typecheck is clean for shared, ui, and server. - Token gates: 4 of 4 clean. - UI: 344 tests pass across 23 files. - Server: all suites pass. The first test in `agent-skills-routes` has its own 10 s cap and needs about 15 s on my laptop for the app cold start. It passes with a longer cap. This PR does not change that cap. Manual steps on a dev instance: 1. Open `/onboarding`. Confirm four steps: Name your organization, Create your first agent, Connect a model, Review. 2. Finish the wizard. Confirm the first task shows the chief-of-staff greeting and the opening card with two options. Confirm no run starts. 3. Pick "Interview me…". Confirm no run starts. Press Continue. Confirm a run starts and an interview card of 3–4 questions arrives. 4. On a fresh organization, pick "I have a task in mind", type a task, and press Continue. Confirm a proposal arrives as one confirmation card. 5. Turn on Settings → Experimental → "First task: propose with a plan document" and repeat step 4. Confirm a plan document and a checkbox card arrive. 6. Visit the dashboard after the hire. Confirm the wizard does not reopen and one agent exists. 7. Open any question card. Confirm Cancel returns the plain composer with the card still pending, Skip advances an optional question, and Next moves to the next question. Design reference with flow diagrams, chat mock-ups, and live captures: https://pages.paperclip.ing/first-task-flow/proposed/ ## Risks - `pnpm dev` now builds the runner daemon because the Paperclip Runner flag is on by default. Developers without a Rust toolchain must set `PAPERCLIP_RUNNER_BINARY` or turn the flag off. Self-hosted instances that never set the flag now let qualified agents use the runner. - The wizard drops the mission steps and their saved-progress keys. A user who is mid-wizard on an older build restarts at step 1 after an upgrade. Existing organizations are not touched. - The first task no longer runs on its own. A user who neither answers the card nor types sees no agent activity. This is intended. - The persona seed applies only to hires that carry the marker from the wizard. API hires are unchanged. - Hire idempotency is scoped to one run id and to the exact request. Retries across runs, or with a changed payload, still create a second agent. The lock is per server process, which matches how an instance serves its API. - Single-select question cards no longer submit on pick. Users of adapters that relied on that behaviour now press Next. - No database migrations. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat: simplify agent onboarding and configuration (#13011)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators create agents and configure their runtimes in the board UI. > - The old creation flow presents several choices and a large form before an agent can start. > - The existing onboarding controls already provide clear provider connection steps. > - This pull request uses those controls in a new-agent wizard and organizes the full configuration pages. > - Operators can connect, test, save, and assign a first task while keeping the existing configuration tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #10974. That earlier open PR also reorganizes agent configuration. This PR follows the reviewed Storybook designs for agent creation and the current configuration tabs. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent creation, provider connection, runtime tests, and full agent configuration. **Current behavior** The creation dialog leads to a large manual configuration form. Provider login controls differ from onboarding. Environment variables and secret access appear in separate places. **Proposed behavior** Choose a name and adapter. Connect Claude or Codex through the existing onboarding controls. Configure and test the runtime, save the agent, and open a task dialog with that agent assigned. Use the same design on the existing configuration tabs. **Reason and benefit** The first setup asks for fewer decisions. The full editor keeps instructions, skills, runtime controls, secret access, permissions, keys, and revisions available in clear sections. **Breaking changes** The board creation and configuration layouts change. The test-environment API adds an optional, allowlisted `testCredentials` field for one-shot probes. Database contracts stay the same. Native ACPX tests now reject unsupported local platforms before a CLI login can mask the runtime restriction. ## What Changed - Added a new-agent wizard with numbered steps, adapter branding, provider connections, editable model choices, runtime tests, and confirmation. - Added Codex app-server, Claude ACPX, and OpenCode runner choices. - Stored API credentials through existing secret APIs and persisted references in agent configuration. New setup keys are isolated from credentials used by existing agents. - Preserved external-agent invitations beside the wizard, including optional messages, one-time prompts, and clipboard fallback. - Added OpenRouter provider and secret bindings for Pi and OpenCode. - Added adapter-specific prerequisite fields for Cursor, Gemini, Kimi, and Hermes. Cursor Cloud keys are saved as new organization secrets. - Fixed Cursor Cloud repository field mapping, omitted empty remote environment values, and added useful model and repository error messages. - Preserved complete MCP assignments when multiple valid profiles contain more than 250 tools in total. Generated profiles retain exact tool selectors. - Added service branding and deployment-aware adapter choices. Cloud setup offers Claude, Codex, and OpenCode; local native runners require the experimental setting. - Made the agent list responsive at intermediate widths. - Applied the reviewed design to the real agent configuration pages. Kept the instruction editor, skills, and existing mutations. - Combined secret access and environment variables under one Save and Discard action. - Added interactive Storybook screens for setup, configuration, confirmation, authentication, and test results. - Fixed Pi provider-error parsing and thinking-effort persistence. Native ACPX validates Linux x64 on the actual local, SSH, or sandbox target. - Redacted the complete transient probe-credential field from HTTP error logs, including rejected provider names. ## Verification - Current head `df0292fe6` has a fresh Greptile 5/5 review with no unresolved findings. All 31 executed CI checks passed, including the aggregate verification gate and all browser E2E shards. Storybook visual regression is skipped by its workflow; the local Storybook build passed. - Browser tests completed real assigned tasks with direct Codex, Claude, OpenCode, Pi, and native Codex. - Verified external-agent invitation generation and automatic prompt copying in the live browser. - Pi and OpenCode used an existing OpenRouter secret. Browser checks covered save and reload, instruction edits, skill selection, environment-variable Save and Discard, and assigned task creation. - Invalid Claude API credentials remained on the connection step with an error. A live Pi/OpenRouter invalid-key probe returned a provider failure and left the user-secret inventory unchanged (zero entries before and after). - Full workspace typecheck and build passed after rebasing onto current master. After review fixes, server and UI typechecks, token gates, and the full build passed again. Storybook built successfully. - All 5,542 local UI tests passed. The Cursor Cloud and Pi adapter regressions passed all 24 tests. Review regressions passed 69 server tests and all 18 agent-list tests. - The local full test command ran 6,971 general server tests successfully. Editing review fixes during that long run caused nine tests to use stale modules; fresh isolated runs passed. An unrelated embedded-Postgres fixture hit the host shared-memory limit; its 15 affected tests passed when the fixture groups ran separately. - Local workspace groups passed after rerunning 18 CLI tests sequentially to avoid host database limits and parallel-load timeouts. The local full command stopped at the general server phase, so serialized server verification comes from the five passing CI shards. - Browser testing at 390px confirmed that the agent action menu opens and the page has no horizontal overflow. CI browser E2E shards passed. - Review the `Onboarding / New agent` and `Agents / Configuration refresh` Storybook groups. In the real app, create an agent, run its connection test, save it, assign a task, and reload its configuration. ## Risks - This changes the main agent setup and configuration UI. Regression tests cover routing, persistence, secret bindings, and form actions. - Native Claude ACPX requires Linux x64. Direct Claude works on macOS. Remote checks execute a bounded platform probe and reject unsupported or unverified targets. - A native OpenCode task reached the provider context limit because of its tool payload. Its provider connection test passed. Direct OpenCode completed a task. This existing native execution limit is not fixed here. - Claude and Codex connection keys use the existing user-secret store. Other runtime setup keys use distinct organization secrets. Existing credentials are never rotated. Probes do not store entered keys. Failed agent creation removes newly staged credentials. - Cursor Cloud has not completed a live task. Its authenticated account still needs GitHub repository access. The live run passed MCP provisioning, remote environment validation, and explicit Auto model selection before the repository prerequisite blocked execution. - Generated runtime MCP profiles can exceed the public profile-edit request limit. They still contain exact catalog selectors and preserve permission boundaries. - No database migration, dependency, lockfile, or workflow changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and browser automation. The runtime did not expose the exact model ID or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: browse GitHub repository access across organizations (#12998)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - GitHub connections give agents access to approved repositories. > - One GitHub identity can use installations across several organizations. > - The permissions page linked to one installation and showed an unfiltered list. > - Users could not easily find another organization or inspect a large selection. > - This change adds account filtering, search, and access configuration links. > - Users can inspect repository access in one compact view. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12993. Related repository-catalog work in #11228 and #11234 was checked. This change only improves the existing GitHub connection permissions page. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The GitHub connection permissions page and its repository display metadata. **Current behavior** The page links directly to an existing installation. The repository list has no account filter, search, height limit, or private-repository marker. Refresh access occupies a separate section. **Proposed behavior** Show all authorized repositories by default. Filter by account or organization and search by name. Open GitHub's account chooser to configure access across organizations. Show GitHub icons and private-repository locks. Keep refresh beside configuration and limit the visible list to about ten rows. **Reason and benefit** Users can find repositories across organizations and configure missing access without creating another GitHub identity. Large repository lists no longer fill the page. **Breaking changes** None. Repository display metadata gains an optional private flag. Older snapshots remain valid and gain the flag after access refresh. No SQL migration is required. ## What Changed - Add an All accounts view, account filter, search, and empty states. - Link both configuration controls to GitHub's app account chooser. - Place an accessible refresh icon beside the configuration button. - Keep the repository heading and list in one section. - Add GitHub icons and private-repository locks. - Cap the scrollable list at ten rows using a design token. - Persist GitHub's private flag only when the provider returns a boolean. - Recover missing legacy app configuration from GitHub installation metadata. - Update tests and the GitHub connection runbook. ## Verification - Focused tests passed: 54 permissions-page tests and four GitHub metadata tests. - UI and server typechecks passed before submission. Token gates passed. - Browser checks verified account filtering, search, empty results, and the configuration destination. - The live list contained 40 repositories. Its final height was 272 pixels, which fits ten single-line rows with gaps. Scrolling retained all rows. - A live access refresh populated 30 private-repository lock icons from GitHub metadata. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. The broad local suite stopped in the general-server group with 18 failed files. Failures include macOS temporary-path handling and embedded PostgreSQL startup. That run also overlapped the legacy fix and retained a stale GitHub module; the final focused run passed all 58 tests. Clean-runner CI is tracked separately. - Latest-head review is 5/5 with the legacy chooser finding resolved. All CI checks passed on commit `0ff2b63f348f5c87d8b7df6e43388f60f5d872d9`, including build, typecheck, all test shards, browser tests, and canary dry run. ## Risks - Older repository snapshots lack visibility metadata until refreshed. Unknown visibility does not display a lock. - The account filter lists authorized installation owners. Users add other organizations through GitHub's chooser. - Filtering changes only the displayed list. GitHub remains authoritative for repository access. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) via Codex. Reasoning, code execution, and browser tools were used. The exact context window size was not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(onboarding): keep the pasted code on screen, and make the auto-copy real (#12921)
The Claude card cleared its field the instant the paste was submitted, so the code appeared and vanished in the same breath and the seconds that followed had no feedback at all - it read as the paste having been dropped. The code stays now; the field is disabled and the step's button carries the status. Scoped to the onboarding chrome: the panel in the agent form stays open long after its login and has its own status area, so clearing is still right there. The OpenAI card's auto-copy took its latch before the attempt rather than on success, so the first refusal was permanent - and the first attempt is the one most likely to be refused, since it fires while the card is still arriving. It also ran with an empty code on the paths where the row renders before the server's one-time prompt has a value, which wrote nothing and then said Copied! over whatever the clipboard already held. It now waits for the document to have focus, retries when focus returns, guards against a second attempt while one is in flight, and only latches once a write has actually landed. The arc's question is a quarter larger, 36px to 45px, as a token with its own leading. paperclipai/paperclip-cloud#400 moves the signup wizard's matching heading by the same quarter - the two flows are pinned to each other on purpose. |

feat(onboarding): the connect step's sign-in as one continuous sequence (#12863)
Picking a source starts the sign-in: the row collapses to the answer, the card opens where the credential link was, and the footer button walks Sign in -> Waiting for code -> Connecting before the step advances. Back unwinds it a beat at a time. Nothing mounts to change layout - the card and the link are always rendered and their heights animate, with inert holding the a11y line - because a mount changes the page in one frame and no easing can smooth a step already taken. Review fixes in the same branch: the displayed-code panel now reports its prompt upward (the OpenAI path could not leave the loading beat without it), the two-second hold is a cancellable beat rather than a dropped timer, unwinding a sequence that never opened a card no longer starts a login to cancel it, and the key field regains focus-on-open. |

feat(ui): refine core navigation and task detail (#12854)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The main navigation and task detail view are core operator surfaces. > - Several controls used different hover states, popover layouts, and spacing rules. > - Recent task actions also needed a compact menu and correct inbox archive behavior. > - These differences made the interface feel inconsistent and caused some content to look crowded or clipped. > - This pull request aligns these surfaces with the Paperclip design tokens and current interaction patterns. > - The benefit is a simpler and more consistent operator experience in light and dark modes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Profile and organization popovers used inconsistent layouts. Navigation controls used different hover and selected backgrounds. Task warnings and the composer could crowd nearby content. Archiving a recent task could also remove it from more than the inbox. **Expected behavior** Popover menus should use the same compact visual language. Navigation controls should share readable hover and selected tokens. Task detail content should keep consistent spacing. Archiving should hide a task from the inbox while keeping it in the task list. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the main sidebar in light or dark mode. 2. Open the profile and organization menus. 3. Hover navigation items, the organization trigger, the profile trigger, and the feedback flag. 4. Open a task with a warning banner and a long thread. 5. Use the recent task overflow menu and archive a task. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `master` before this branch. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`). ## What Changed - Rebuilt the profile and organization popovers with compact token-based layouts. - Matched organization popover width and alignment to the profile popover. - Unified sidebar hover and selected states in light and dark modes. - Added a recent task overflow menu with rename, archive, and pause or restart actions. - Kept archived tasks in the task list while removing them from the inbox. - Improved warning banner and composer spacing in task detail views. - Added and updated focused UI tests for the changed behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - The seven affected UI test files passed with 216 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed. - GitHub CI passed the full build, typecheck and release registry, general test, serialized server, canary dry-run, and end-to-end matrices. - Greptile reviewed commit `6e296be85` at 5/5 with no outstanding actionable findings. ## Risks - Risk is limited to sidebar presentation, recent task actions, and task detail layout. - The recent task archive action now follows inbox-only archive semantics. - No database schema or public API contract changed. > I checked [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md). This pull request does not duplicate planned core work. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.6. The model used high reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The context window size was not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Scott Tong <scott@scottsmbpm5max.lan> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(onboarding): round-4 corrections to the connect and agent steps (#12796)
Reads the connect and agent steps from the design's own values through the Figma MCP rather than measuring an export, which corrected the arc column inset (433px content, 64px inset — `--sz-68px` goes with the mismeasurement it was minted for) and restored the selected tile's border alongside its fill. Round-4 items: sources named for the provider you sign in with, OpenAI's mark inlined so it can take `currentColor` on a light tile, monochrome autofill via `box-shadow` (Chrome ignores `background-color`), and the agent step's placeholder. Also wires `MODEL_SOURCE_NAMES`, which was added for the rename and never read — the tiles kept passing the display registry's label, so the step still showed "Claude Code" and "Codex" under a heading asking which provider you are signing in to. Covered by a test that fails on the unwired version. |

feat(onboarding): Figma pass over the tenant arc (#12726)
Takes the four tenant onboarding steps to the design, and makes the model choice explicit. **Nothing is preselected on the connect step.** It arrived with a source already chosen, which made the row read as a confirmation rather than a question and let a customer pass the step having touched none of it. The step now opens unanswered and cannot advance until a source is selected in the visible row. Two defects fell out of that, both found by Greptile in review: - A saved draft can name an adapter the row does not show — one the registry dropped, or one in the advanced list. The gate asked `sourcePicked`, which only means "a draft named something", so Next stayed live on a step that had visibly asked nothing and would hire against the hidden name. It now asks `sourceSelected`, read off the visible row, and the snap that replaces an unofferable adapter clears the pick rather than presenting its replacement as chosen. - Cmd+Enter bypassed that gate entirely, because the condition was written out twice and drifted. Both paths now ask one predicate. Also: selection is a fill rather than a border; the input canvas opens only for a chosen source; the close control is gone from every step (nothing downstream of the connect step works until a model is connected); the arc draws to the design's 424px column with a filled 44px name field; the CTA reads "Next" through the arc and "Get started" at the end; the login spinner reads "Preparing..."; the OAuth panels number their fields and show the URL above the code. Storybook: the arc stories waited for a button named "Connect" and had been silently rendering the wrong step since the CTA was renamed. They now wait on the destination heading. Three e2e specs had the same fault and now select a source before advancing. One test was removed rather than replaced — `hydrates again when the same company comes back through onboarding` drove the close control, and three substitutes each passed against a wizard with the behaviour deleted. The reason is recorded where it stood. Known and not fixed here: SidebarCompanyMenu opens the wizard at step 1 for "create a new organization", and with no exit an existing user who changes their mind is trapped. Onboarding: model source tiles, one input canvas, and Storybook coverage for the agent arc (#12613)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - New customers meet it through onboarding, whose last three steps run
inside the tenant: create an agent, connect a model, review
> - The connect step is the one that decides whether the agent can run
at all, and it had drifted — three contributors changed it in parallel,
and its visual language no longer matched the rest of the flow
> - It also could not be looked at without a provisioned stack, so
defects in it were only found by walking a real signup, and the review
step behind it could not be reached at all when it failed
> - This pull request brings the visual work onto the sign-in behaviour
that already shipped, and adds Storybook coverage for all three steps
> - The benefit is that the step is easier to read, and that it can now
be inspected and driven before it ships rather than after
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
The onboarding connect-a-model step. It presented the model choice as a
dropdown plus an "Advanced settings" disclosure, and put each credential
type in a different place, so the controls below moved whenever the
choice changed.
**Subsystem affected**
Tenant onboarding wizard (`ui/src/components/OnboardingWizard.tsx`) and
its Storybook coverage.
**Current behavior**
The step offered every registered adapter through a disclosure.
Credential entry appeared in a different shape per source. None of the
three agent-arc steps could be rendered outside a provisioned cloud
stack, so the sign-in panel and the review step were only reachable by
walking a real signup.
**Proposed behavior**
Two brand tiles for the recommended sources, a link that switches
between subscription and API-key credentials, and one canvas that holds
whichever input the current choice needs. Storybook stories mount the
real wizard against fixtures and walk it forward, so every step and its
states can be inspected locally.
**Reason and benefit**
The step reads as one decision rather than three scattered ones, and its
furniture stays still while the choice changes. The stories mean a
regression in it is visible before release instead of during a signup.
**Breaking changes**
No API or schema change. One behavioural narrowing, described under
Risks.
## What Changed
- Replaces the adapter dropdown and "Advanced settings" disclosure with
`ModelSourceTiles` — brand tiles for Claude Code and Codex.
- Adds `CredentialModeLink`, a text toggle between subscription sign-in
and API keys, replacing the disclosure.
- Adds `ConnectInputCanvas`: one surface that holds the sign-in panel or
the API-key field and resizes between them, so the Connect button below
does not move.
- Keeps the existing sign-in behaviour unchanged. `AgentConfigForm`
changes are presentation only — the provider name in the title, the CTA
wording, and `space-y` to `gap`. No change to the login mutations,
queries, or session handling.
- Restores the sleep marks on the dormant agent for the two steps before
the hire.
- Adds Storybook stories for all three agent-arc steps, with fixtures
for the environments, auth signal, both adapters' login flows, and the
hire.
- Copy: names the provider being signed in to ("Sign in to
Anthropic"/"Sign in to OpenAI"), and drops "Clippy" from the agent-name
helper text.
## Verification
- `pnpm vitest run src/components storybook` in `ui/` — 139 tests over
the touched suites, 1986 across `src/components`.
- `pnpm typecheck` in `ui/` — clean.
- Storybook, `Onboarding/Agent arc`: walk each story. Step 1 has no Back
button, steps 2 and 3 do.
- The sign-in gate: on `Connect a model`, press Connect without signing
in. It holds on step 2 and reports "No working authentication was
found." On `Review`, which fixtures an authenticated signal, Connect
reaches the review step.
- Both providers' login flows: press Sign in on the Claude tile for the
authorization URL and browser-code field, and on the Codex tile for the
device URL and code.
- The Claude sign-in was also walked end to end on a staging tenant,
including the OAuth redirect and pasting the code back.
## Risks
- **Onboarding now offers two model sources instead of every registered
adapter.** `ModelSourceTiles` is fed the `recommended` set, which is
`claude_local` and `codex_local`; Gemini, Cursor, Grok, Kimi, OpenCode
and Paperclip Runner are no longer selectable *during onboarding*. This
is deliberate. The full list is unchanged in agent settings, which is
where an adapter can still be switched after the agent exists, and
adding a source back is one `recommended: true` in
`adapter-display-registry.ts`. Flagging it because it is the one
behavioural narrowing here and it is not visible from the diffstat.
- The API key entered on this step is held in component state and
deliberately never written to the onboarding draft, because that draft
is `localStorage`. A customer who leaves mid-step re-enters the key;
that is the intended trade.
- Storybook-only risk: the fixtures now answer the environment test from
the story's auth state. If a future change moves the hire's gate off the
`adapter_auth_missing` check code, the stories would keep passing while
the product regressed. The gate is asserted in the adapter packages' own
tests, not here.
- Motion changes are low risk and reversible: the input canvas animates
its contents only, and its container was deliberately left unanimated
after an animated wrapper clipped the sign-in panel.

feat(runner): add administration and observability (#12641)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Administrators need bounded controls for experimental native execution. > - The lower stack adds remote Codex execution and the task workspace. > - Operators need to configure Codex safely and inspect provider traces. > - Unsupported providers must not appear as runnable choices. > - This pull request adds Codex-only administration and observability. > - The benefit is a default-off operational surface for production diagnosis. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12640. Refs #12616. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Agent configuration, instance experimental settings, run ledger, provider trace inspector, and administrator actions. **Problem or motivation** The native runner lacks one safe operator surface for Codex permissions, lifecycle, raw trace capture, and run inspection. The integration branch also contains provider choices that the production backend cannot execute yet. **Proposed solution** Expose only the qualified Codex controls. Keep Paperclip Developer Mode and runner preview ingress off by default. Gate raw trace actions by administrator access and existing trace authorization. **Alternatives considered** Exposing unfinished providers would create configurations that fail at runtime. Always-on tracing would increase sensitive data and storage risk. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports governed Cloud and Sandbox agents and production diagnostics. ## Stack - Base PR: #12640. - Lower PRs: #12639 and #12638. - This PR contains only its 54-file administration and observability delta. - This is the final feature PR in the Codex production stack. ## What Changed - Added Codex-only Paperclip Runner permission and lifecycle controls. - Added bounded warm idle configuration. - Kept the provider field fixed to Codex. - Added administrator-only one-run raw trace requests. - Added a persistent future-run raw trace toggle. - Added trace status, metadata, ledger, and canonical runner inspection. - Added JSON-RPC request-origin grouping and finalization lineage. - Restored the stateful PRP transcript parser and focused projection tests required by trace inspection. - Added default-off Paperclip Developer Mode. - Added Honeycomb run links for authorized developer mode. - Disabled the legacy operational skill for `paperclip_runner`. - Did not expose OpenCode, ACPX, Pi, Claude Managed, or AWS runner choices. - Did not change migrations, workflows, dependencies, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run UI tests, server tests, repository typecheck, build, browser tests, security, and policy gates. - Tests cover Codex configuration defaults and bounds, administrator trace actions, persistent settings, ledger inspection, trace lineage, and Honeycomb links. - Existing server trace authorization and retention tests remain the backend authority. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check runner/task-workspace-experience...HEAD` passes. - The delta contains 54 files. ## Risks - Raw provider traces can contain sensitive provider data. - Existing server authorization controls access, reveal, download, retention, and deletion. - The UI gates trace actions by administrator access and developer mode. - All new instance settings remain off by default. - Fresh Paperclip Runner configuration remains Codex-only. - Direct adapters and legacy task behavior do not change in this PR. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. The work used high-reasoning agent mode, repository tools, GitHub tools, and parallel code-audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes: / Closes / Refs OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(ui): complete the task workspace (#12640)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task page is the main place where people guide and review agent work. > - Native runner events already project into the existing task chat on the lower stack. > - The larger task workspace must support those events without breaking direct adapters. > - Legacy questions, final replies, empty transcripts, and classic controls must keep their behavior. > - This pull request completes the provider-neutral task workspace experience. > - The benefit is one coherent task surface for native and direct execution paths. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12639. Refs #12617. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Task chat, task detail, side panels, interaction forms, and transcript presentation. **Problem or motivation** The task page does not provide one complete workspace for live activity, plans, questions, queued guidance, files, and documents. Earlier native UI work also exposed compatibility risks in legacy question and reply paths. **Proposed solution** Add the task workspace components and provider-neutral protocol presentation. Keep runner-only controls behind runtime facts. Preserve all direct-adapter composer, transcript, interaction, and finalization behavior. **Alternatives considered** A separate runner page would duplicate task behavior. Replacing legacy transcript logic would create unnecessary adapter regressions. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the unified task experience and the Cloud and Sandbox agents milestone. ## Stack - Base PR: #12639. - Lower PR: #12638. - This PR contains only its 119-file UI delta against `runner/remote-wss-transport`. - The next stack PR adds administrator and observability controls. ## What Changed - Added a reusable task workspace side panel for files and documents. - Added provider-neutral cards for tools, plans, questions, protocol activity, and progress. - Added queued guidance and richer composer state. - Added compact and expanded interaction presentation. - Added live activity, thinking, usage, recovery, and final reply presentation. - Added document annotations and task deep links. - Added bounded question validation and response handling. - Preserved native runner event projection from master. - Preserved legacy channel-less replies and explicit final reply precedence. - Preserved direct-adapter and classic-interface controls. - Did not change server execution selection, Rust code, migrations, workflows, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run UI tests, repository tests, typecheck, build, browser tests, security, and policy gates. - Tests cover active, settled, empty-transcript, interaction, queued-message, plan, question, file, document, and classic-interface states. - Compatibility tests cover direct adapters and native runner projection together. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check runner/remote-wss-transport...HEAD` passes. - The delta contains 119 UI-only files. ## Risks - This is a large task-page change. - Most files are new focused components and tests. - Shared transcript code keeps the lower native projection and legacy direct-adapter fallbacks. - Runner-only controls use adapter and runtime facts. - No execution path or rollout flag changes in this PR. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes: / Closes / Refs OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(apps): add secure remote MCP and PostHog setup (#12339)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools. > - Remote MCP setup needs secure endpoint validation and durable credentials. > - PostHog needs both browser sign-in and personal API key setup paths. > - This pull request adds the shared remote MCP foundation and the PostHog definition. > - The benefit is a secure and reusable base for later app connection work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 1 of 11. It replaces the first reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add guarded remote MCP setup and credential handling. - Add PostHog OAuth and API key connection methods. - Add focused server, shared contract, and UI coverage. - Keep the migration replay-safe and idempotent. - Give the late-close security regression the same 10-second CI headroom as the adjacent real-timer handshake test. - Synchronize fake-timer handshake tests at the exact ensure-session boundary so real filesystem setup cannot race the fake deadline. - Drive PTY overflow coverage only after listener registration so scheduling cannot reorder the test fixture. ## Verification - pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts (220 passed; affected cases also passed five focused stress repetitions) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never leaks a sandbox-provided value from a late close rejection into logs or the result"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never promotes a late ensureSession resolution|closes a late-resolving real handle exactly once"` (2 passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Remote endpoint validation can reject configurations that previously passed without checks. - OAuth configuration errors can block setup until the operator corrects the provider settings. - The migration uses guarded statements so repeated execution is safe. - The test-only synchronization changes do not affect runtime behavior; they remove filesystem/fake-clock and listener-registration races observed under parallel CI load. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime model ID and context window were not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Remove the company brand color and per-company attachment limit (#12291)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - A company is the top-level container, and the company General page
holds its settings
> - Two of those settings did almost nothing: the brand color only
tinted the generated company icon, and the attachment size limit sat
under the deployment-level `PAPERCLIP_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES` cap that
already bounded every upload
> - A setting that changes one icon hue, and a setting that can only
lower a limit the operator already set, are not worth the page space or
the code that carries them
> - This pull request deletes both settings from the UI, the validators,
the API contract, the server, and the database
> - With the deployment cap as the only limit left, the message a person
sees when an upload is rejected has to name that limit in terms they can
act on, so the raw byte count becomes a human-readable size
> - The benefit is a shorter company General page for every deployment,
one attachment limit instead of two, and less code between an upload and
its ceiling
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No existing issue. The description below follows
`.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/enhancement.yml`.
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
The company General page (`/company/settings`), the `PATCH
/api/companies/{companyId}` and `PATCH
/api/companies/{companyId}/branding` request contracts, and the
attachment upload limit on task, case, and company-import uploads.
**Subsystem affected**
Cross-cutting: `ui/`, `server/`, `packages/shared`, `packages/db`.
**Current behavior**
The company General page shows an "Appearance" section with three
controls: Logo, Brand color, and Attachment size limit. The brand color
is a hex value that feeds one thing — the hue of the generated company
pattern icon. Companies that never set one already get a hue derived
from the company name. The attachment size limit is a per-company byte
count stored on `companies.attachment_max_bytes`. Every upload path
clamps it against the deployment-level `PAPERCLIP_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES`
cap, so the per-company value can only lower a limit the operator
already chose.
**Proposed behavior**
The Appearance section keeps the Logo control only. The company pattern
icon always derives its hue from the company name. Every attachment path
reads the deployment cap directly, so `PAPERCLIP_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES`
is the single limit. An upload rejected by that limit says so in human
units — "File is larger than the 10 MB limit" rather than a raw byte
count. The `companies.brand_color` and `companies.attachment_max_bytes`
columns are dropped, and both fields leave the company API contract.
**Reason and benefit**
Both settings ask an operator to make a decision that changes almost
nothing. The brand color moves one icon hue on a page that also lets you
upload a real logo, which overrides the icon entirely. The attachment
limit reads as a real control but cannot raise anything, so it is a
second place to look when an upload is rejected. Removing both shortens
the page every deployment sees, removes a company-scoped read from the
task attachment upload path, and leaves one attachment limit to reason
about instead of two.
**Breaking changes**
The company API responses no longer include `brandColor` or
`attachmentMaxBytes`, and `GET /api/invites/{token}` no longer includes
`companyBrandColor`. `PATCH /api/companies/{companyId}/branding` is
strict, so a request that sends `brandColor` now returns 400; the
non-strict `PATCH /api/companies/{companyId}` schema strips it. Company
packages exported by older versions still import: the portability
company manifest schema is non-strict, so the retired keys are stripped
and ignored rather than rejected. Companies that stored a brand color
lose it — their icon reverts to the name-derived hue that every company
without a color already used.
## What Changed
- Removed the "Brand color" and "Attachment size limit" fields from the
company General page, along with their state, dirty checks, save
payload, and Save-button gating.
- Removed `brandColor` and `attachmentMaxBytes` from
`createCompanySchema`, `updateCompanySchema`, and
`updateCompanyBrandingSchema`, and deleted the now-orphaned
`DEFAULT_COMPANY_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES` and
`MAX_COMPANY_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES` constants.
- Removed both fields from the `Company` type, the portability manifest
type and schema, and the `companiesApi.update` payload allowlist.
- Dropped `brandColor` from `CompanyPatternIcon` and its callers, so the
icon hue always comes from the company name. Deleted the now-unused
`hexToHue` helper and the now-unused `pickTextColorForSolidBg` export.
- Stopped emitting `brandColor` from the company service selection and
from the invite-summary and invite-branding payloads in
`server/src/routes/access.ts`.
- Replaced `normalizeIssueAttachmentMaxBytes` with the deployment cap:
task attachments, case attachments, and company import now use
`MAX_ATTACHMENT_BYTES` directly. The helper is deleted.
- Added `formatAttachmentSize()` next to `MAX_ATTACHMENT_BYTES` and
routed every over-limit message through it, so a rejected upload names
the limit in human units instead of raw bytes: `Image exceeds 10485760
bytes` becomes `Image is larger than the 10 MB limit`. Enforcement is
unchanged — the same single cap, the same multer limits, the same status
codes and response shapes.
- Added migration
`0229_drop_company_brand_color_and_attachment_max_bytes.sql` and removed
both columns from the Drizzle `companies` schema.
- Kept legacy imports working: the portability company manifest schema
is non-strict, so older packages carrying the retired keys still import
with the keys ignored.
- Updated the skill API reference and the implementation spec, and
pruned the token-extraction allowlist entries that the removed code made
stale.
## Verification
Commands run from the repository root:
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` — pass
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` — pass (includes
`check:migrations`, which validates the new migration number and journal
entry)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — pass
- server typecheck via `node_modules/.bin/tsc --noEmit` in `server/` —
pass. `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` could not run
locally because it builds the Rust runner first and `cargo` is not
installed on this machine; the TypeScript step it wraps is the command
above.
- `npx vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/company.test.ts` — 6
passed
- `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` — 90
passed
- `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/attachment-types.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/assets.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issue-attachment-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/cases-routes.test.ts` — 165 passed (the
human-readable limit messages)
- `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/company-branding-route.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issue-attachment-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/invite-summary-route.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/openclaw-invite-prompt-route.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/companies-route-cross-company-authz.test.ts` — all
passed
- `npx vitest run cli/src/__tests__/company.test.ts
cli/src/__tests__/company-delete.test.ts` — 27 passed
- `npx vitest run` in `ui/` — 4425 passed, 1 pre-existing failure
unrelated to this change (`OnboardingWizard.test.tsx` "renders instead
of throwing when the browser denies storage access", which also fails on
`master`)
- `npx vitest run` in `server/` — see the note below
- `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs` — no new violations; the only
reported violations are the pre-existing `PillGuy.tsx` ones present on
`master`
New tests added:
- `packages/shared/src/validators/company.test.ts` — the create and
update schemas strip the retired keys, the strict branding schema
rejects `brandColor`, and the portability manifest schema accepts a
legacy entry carrying both keys and drops them.
- `server/src/__tests__/company-branding-route.test.ts` — `PATCH
/api/companies/{companyId}/branding` returns 400 for `brandColor` and
does not call the company service.
- `server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` — a legacy package
that declares `brandColor` and `attachmentMaxBytes` imports
successfully, and neither key reaches `companies.create`.
- `server/src/__tests__/issue-attachment-routes.test.ts` — the effective
task attachment limit is the deployment cap, and the route no longer
loads the company to size an upload.
- `server/src/__tests__/attachment-types.test.ts` —
`formatAttachmentSize()` renders the default cap as `10 MB`, keeps one
decimal place for fractional sizes and drops a trailing `.0`, falls back
to KB and bytes for small caps, steps up to GB, and never emits `NaN`
for a degenerate input.
- `server/src/__tests__/assets.test.ts` — the asset-image and
company-logo routes both return the human-readable limit message on an
over-cap upload.
## Merge with master
`master` moved while this was open, and the merge needed two
resolutions:
- **`ui/src/pages/CompanySettings.tsx`.** #12243 reworded the
user-facing
copy from "company" to "organization", and that rewording landed inside
the "Brand color" and "Attachment size limit" hints — the two fields
this change deletes. Both fields are removed, so the conflicted block is
dropped whole. The Logo field and every other copy change from #12243
are
kept.
- **Migration renumbered 0228 -> 0229.** #12307 landed
`0228_nasty_grim_reaper`, so this migration is now
`0229_drop_company_brand_color_and_attachment_max_bytes`. Its snapshot
is
rebuilt from master's `0228_snapshot.json` with only the two `companies`
columns removed, and `meta/_journal.json` is master's journal plus a
single `idx: 229` entry. `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db
check:migrations`
passes.
The snapshot was rebuilt by hand rather than taken from `drizzle-kit
generate`, because master's `0228_snapshot.json` has drifted from
master's
own schema: `issue_question_response_deliveries.error_count` is created
by
master's 0228 SQL but missing from its snapshot, and the snapshot still
carries `decision_archive_notification_outbox.error_count`. Regenerating
folds both into this migration, and the resulting `ADD COLUMN
error_count`
would fail on a fresh database where master's 0228 already created that
column. Rebuilding from master's snapshot leaves that drift exactly
where
it is and keeps this migration to the two column drops. The drift is
pre-existing on master and is not addressed here.
## Risks
- **The migration is a destructive column drop.**
`0229_drop_company_brand_color_and_attachment_max_bytes.sql` removes
`companies.brand_color` and `companies.attachment_max_bytes`. It is safe
because both features are removed in the same change and nothing reads
either column after it. The statements use `DROP COLUMN IF EXISTS`,
matching the convention of the recent drop migrations in this
repository. The drop is not reversible: a downgrade after this migration
loses any stored values.
- **Stored brand colors are lost.** A company that had set a color now
renders the name-derived icon hue that every company without a color
already used. No other surface changes, and an uploaded logo still
overrides the icon.
- **API response shape narrows.** `brandColor` and `attachmentMaxBytes`
leave the company payloads, and `companyBrandColor` leaves the invite
summary payload. A client reading those fields now sees `undefined`. The
bundled UI and CLI are updated in this change.
- **Legacy imports are covered.** Packages exported by older versions
still carry both keys. The manifest schema is non-strict, so the keys
are stripped rather than rejected, and a test locks that in.
- **The over-limit message strings changed.** Anything matching on the
old `... exceeds N bytes` text — a test, a script, or a client that
string-matches `body.error` — needs updating. The status codes (422) and
response shapes are unchanged, so structured clients are unaffected.
- **Attachment limits can only widen.** A deployment that had lowered a
company below the deployment cap now allows uploads up to the cap for
that company. Lower `PAPERCLIP_ATTACHMENT_MAX_BYTES` if a smaller
ceiling is needed.
- **Storybook visual baselines shift** for the `CompanyPatternIcon`
matrix story, because those fixtures had brand colors. That workflow
runs only on a PR labeled `storybook-visual`, so it does not gate this
PR; regenerate the baselines if the label is added.

fix(ui): task chat composer clears on send; align carets and composer with thread (#11772)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task detail view uses a chat-style thread: agent turns, activity phases, and a message composer. > - A colleague's UX review found three defects: the composer draft stayed visible after send, disclosure carets in turns and status pills were misaligned, and the composer was not horizontally aligned with the thread column. > - These defects make the chat surface feel unpolished and cause confusion about whether a message was sent. > - This pull request fixes all three defects with small, targeted UI changes and adds regression tests for each. > - The benefit is a chat surface that behaves and aligns like users expect from a messaging UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this. Description of the underlying problems: **What happened?** Three UI defects in the chat-style task view: 1. After a user pressed send, the composer kept the draft text until the server round-trip finished. Fast typers could see stale text and doubt the message was sent. 2. The disclosure carets on collapsed agent turns and the caret inside the status pill did not share one alignment axis. They rendered at different x-offsets and sizes. 3. The composer container had different horizontal padding than the thread column above it, so the input box did not line up with the message bubbles. **Expected behavior** The composer clears the instant a send starts. All disclosure carets sit on one vertical axis with one size. The composer's left and right edges align with the thread column. **Steps to reproduce** Open any task in the chat-style task view. Type a message and press Enter — watch the composer text. Collapse and expand agent turns — compare caret positions. Compare the composer's horizontal edges with the message bubbles above it. ## What Changed - `TaskChatComposer.tsx`: clear the draft synchronously when a send starts instead of after the request resolves; restore the draft if the send fails. - `TaskChatTurn.tsx` and `TaskChatStatusPill.tsx`: use one shared caret alignment (size, x-offset) for turn disclosure and status pill carets, with supporting utility styles in `ui/src/index.css`. - `TaskChatThread.tsx`: align the composer container with the thread column padding. - Added or updated unit tests in `TaskChatComposer.test.tsx`, `TaskChatTurn.test.tsx`, `TaskChatActivityPhase.test.tsx`, and `TaskChatThread.test.tsx`. ## Verification - Run `pnpm vitest run src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposer.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatActivityPhase.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatTurn.test.tsx src/components/TaskChatThread.test.tsx` in `ui/` — 4 files, 64 tests, all pass. - Manual: open a task in the chat view, send a message, and confirm the composer clears immediately. Collapse/expand turns and confirm the carets align. Compare composer edges with the thread column; the alignment fixes were also pixel-verified with screenshots during local review. ## Risks - Low risk. All changes are render-layer only; no server or data changes. - The composer now clears optimistically. If a send fails, the draft is restored, so no user text is lost. - Caret alignment uses shared CSS utilities; visual regressions would show in the existing component tests and in any screenshot diff. ## Model Used - Implementation: OpenAI Codex CLI coding agent (Codex model family, agentic tool use) via Paperclip's Codex adapter. - Review, verification, rebase, and PR preparation: Anthropic Claude, model id `claude-fable-5` (extended thinking, tool use), via Claude Code. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(markdown): make rendered code blocks follow the active theme (#11591)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents report their work in task chat, and that chat renders markdown through `MarkdownBody` > - Agents post shell commands, API payloads and diffs, so a fenced code block is one of the most frequent things a person reads in the product > - The rendered code block was pinned to two literal colors, so it stayed dark in light mode and was the only dark surface on a light page > - The `prose` and the `prose-invert` variables held the same two values, so the theme could not change the block at all > - This pull request binds the block to the theme tokens that already exist and already carry a `.dark` override > - The benefit is that a code block now matches the page in both modes, and it follows any future change to the theme automatically ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. The problem is described below. **What happened?** A fenced code block in rendered markdown is always dark. It uses the background `#1e1e2e` and the text color `#cdd6f4` in light mode and in dark mode. In light mode the block is the only dark surface on the page. The rule is in `ui/src/index.css`. The variables `--tw-prose-pre-bg` and `--tw-prose-invert-pre-bg` are set to the same literal value, so `prose-invert` cannot change it. **Expected behavior** A code block uses a light surface with dark text in light mode. It uses a dark surface with light text in dark mode. It follows the theme like every other surface in the app. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start the app and open a task that contains a fenced code block in its chat. 2. Set the theme to light. 3. Look at the code block. The block is dark. The page is light. 4. Set the theme to dark. The block does not change. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `master` at `4af55ba6b`. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific (core bug). The defect is in the UI render path. **Deployment mode** Local development server. ## What Changed - Bind `.paperclip-markdown pre` to `--muted`, `--foreground`, `--border` and `--radius-lg` in `ui/src/index.css`. Remove the `#1e1e2e` and `#cdd6f4` literals. - Set the four `--tw-prose-*-pre-*` variables to the same tokens, so `prose` and `prose-invert` both follow the theme. - Apply the same four tokens to `.paperclip-mdxeditor-content pre`. - Change the fill of the copy button and the wrap button to `--background` in `ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.tsx`. The old fill was `color-mix(in oklab, var(--muted) 92%, var(--background) 8%)`. That value is almost equal to the block's new `--muted` surface, so the buttons would nearly disappear. - Update the stale comment above the rule. The comment said "Dark theme code blocks". - Add `ui/src/components/MarkdownCodeBlockStyles.test.ts`. It fails if a literal color returns to any themed code surface. - Export `codeBlockActionStyle` from `MarkdownBody.tsx` so the new test can read it. No new design token is added. Every token used here is already defined in `ui/src/index.css`, and each one already has a `.dark` override. ## Verification Automated: ```bash cd ui && npx vitest run --config vitest.config.ts src/components/MarkdownCodeBlockStyles.test.ts src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx src/components/MarkdownBody.wrap.test.tsx src/components/MarkdownAccentStyles.test.ts ``` 59 tests pass. `MarkdownCodeBlockStyles.test.ts` is new. It guards the defect directly. It reads `index.css` and asserts that each themed code surface rides a token and holds no hex, `rgb()` or `hsl()` literal. I confirmed the test fails on the original defect: restoring `#1e1e2e` and `#cdd6f4` fails 2 of the 5 tests. Manual. Open a task that has a fenced code block in its chat. Read the computed style of `.paperclip-markdown pre` in the browser. The measured values are: | Property | Light | Dark | | --- | --- | --- | | background | `oklch(0.97 0 0)` | `oklch(0.269 0 0)` | | color | `oklch(0.145 0 0)` | `oklch(0.985 0 0)` | | border | `oklch(0.922 0 0)` | `oklch(1 0 0 / 0.1)` | | radius | `8px` | `8px` | These values are `--muted`, `--foreground`, `--border` and `--radius-lg` for each mode. Toggle the theme and confirm the block changes with the page. ## Risks Low risk. The change is CSS and one inline style value. There is no migration and no schema change. Two behavioral notes for the reviewer: 1. The corner radius changes from `calc(var(--radius) - 3px)` (5px) to `var(--radius-lg)` (8px). This matches the approved design and removes an arbitrary offset. It is a small visual change on every code block. 2. The CodeMirror theme inside the MDXEditor still uses the Catppuccin literals (`ui/src/index.css`, the `.paperclip-mdxeditor .cm-editor` rules). That surface is an editor, not a rendered snippet, and a change there needs a full light CodeMirror theme. A code block therefore looks light when it is rendered and dark while a person edits it. This is intentional in this pull request. Tell me if you want it in scope. Syntax highlighting, line numbers and diff rows are not in this pull request. The repository has no highlighter dependency and no syntax or diff tokens. Those are separate changes. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), via Claude Code. Extended thinking was on. Tool use was on, with file edit, shell, browser automation and the Paper design tool. The design was produced first in Paper, then read back through the design tool for exact token values rather than from screenshots. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Notes on the unchecked boxes: - Branch name. fix(ui): align the mobile task chat composer with the thread (#11296)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task thread is where people read work and guide agents. > - The mobile composer should use the same content width as the thread. > - The composer kept the desktop 80% width on mobile, so its edges did not align with the thread. > - Long assignee-aware placeholder text could also clip inside the mobile editor. > - Some extracted style tokens used legacy HSL wrappers around complete semantic colors, which made those declarations invalid. > - This pull request makes the composer full width on mobile, preserves the narrower desktop layout, wraps the placeholder, and repairs the invalid color compositions. > - The benefit is a stable mobile composer that aligns with the task thread and keeps its intended visual styles. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related work: Refs #11263. **What happened?** At mobile widths, the task chat composer used the same 80% width as the desktop composer. Its horizontal edges did not align with the full task thread. A long assignee-aware placeholder could clip on one line. The composer's extracted shadow also used a legacy `hsl(var(...))` wrapper around complete semantic color values, so the browser could reject the declaration. **Expected behavior** The composer must match the task thread width on mobile. It must stay narrower on larger screens. Long placeholder text must wrap inside the editor. Semantic color tokens must form valid shadows and gradients. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with the chat-style thread on a mobile viewport. 2. Compare the composer edges with the task thread edges. 3. Select an assignee whose placeholder text wraps to two lines. 4. Inspect the computed composer shadow and the extracted semantic color styles. **Paperclip version or commit** The change is based on `dc6fcd1ff1` from `master`. **Deployment mode** Local build from source. The behavior also applies to packaged web builds. ## What Changed - Made the task chat composer full width below the medium breakpoint and kept the 80% desktop width. - Matched the composer dock padding to the task thread padding. - Allowed long composer placeholders to wrap and reserved enough mobile editor height for two lines. - Replaced invalid legacy HSL wrappers around full semantic colors in extracted shadows, gradients, and approval styles. - Added a token gate that prevents legacy `hsl(var(--token))` wrappers from returning. - Added focused regression tests for responsive width, padding, placeholder wrapping, mobile height, and semantic shadow validity. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all four gates pass. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/TaskChatThread.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposer.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposerStyles.test.ts` — 37 tests pass. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — passes. The build prints existing CSS optimizer and bundle-size warnings. ## Risks - Low risk. The width change is limited to the mobile breakpoint. The desktop 80% layout remains in place. - The semantic token fixes can affect shadows and gradients that were previously invalid. The new gate prevents the invalid wrapper pattern from returning. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(ui): refine the chat-style task workflow (#11263)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The issue detail view is the main place where people read work and guide agents. > - The chat-style task view needs clear messages, controls, properties, and document feedback. > - Dense metadata and disconnected controls make active work harder to scan. > - This pull request refines the existing chat-style task workflow across desktop and mobile layouts. > - The benefit is a clearer issue thread with faster access to the controls that guide work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The change improves the chat-style issue detail view that was introduced in [#10606](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/10606) and expanded in [#10707](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/10707). **Current behavior** The issue thread spreads task controls across the page. Agent-turn metadata competes with the message content. Document annotation comments use inline placement that limits the document reading area. The mobile composer can overlap the bottom navigation. **Proposed behavior** The issue view keeps the thread focused on message content. It moves supporting controls into the properties area, adds searchable assignment, restores the sub-task tree, docks document comments in a side gutter, and keeps the mobile composer clear of navigation. **Reason and benefit** People can scan active work faster and find task controls without leaving the issue. The layout also gives documents and mobile conversations more usable space. **Breaking changes** None. The change updates presentation and interaction behavior in the existing issue UI. ## What Changed - Refined task-chat message spacing, metadata, agent bubbles, and composer alignment. - Added searchable assignment and restored sub-task navigation in the properties pane. - Moved document annotation comments into a right-side gutter. - Kept the mobile composer above the auto-hiding bottom navigation. - Added and updated focused component tests for the changed interactions. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `TZ=UTC pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/InlineEntitySelector.test.tsx src/components/IssueDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx src/components/TaskChatThread.test.tsx src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx` - The token gates report 3/3 clean. - The focused test run passes 124 tests in 5 files. - Visual snapshot baselines were not updated. This follows the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)." ## Risks - The changes affect several related issue-detail layouts. A browser review should cover desktop and mobile widths before merge. - The monitor-row test formats time in the host timezone. The verification command sets `TZ=UTC` to match CI. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(ui): keep new task dialog visible above mobile keyboard (#11281)
<!-- Write all pull request text in Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, one instruction per sentence, simple approved vocabulary, and the active voice. --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators create tasks in a dialog that includes the assignee and project fields. > - Mobile browsers reduce and offset the visual viewport when the on-screen keyboard opens. > - The dialog used layout viewport units, so its upper fields could move off-screen while the user typed. > - This pull request makes the dialog follow the live visual viewport and keeps the focused editor visible. > - The benefit is that operators can see the task context and the field they edit on mobile devices. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** On mobile browsers, opening the keyboard in the new-task dialog could move the assignee and project fields above the visible screen. The active editor could also become difficult to see. **Expected behavior** The full dialog must stay inside the visible browser area. The active editor and task controls must remain reachable while the on-screen keyboard is open. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open Paperclip on a mobile browser. 2. Open the new-task dialog. 3. Focus the title or description editor to open the on-screen keyboard. 4. Observe that the upper fields can move outside the visible viewport. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced before commit `838cdbb325` on `master`. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`) in a mobile browser viewport. ## What Changed - Read `window.visualViewport` while the dialog is open. - Apply token-based dialog geometry when the visual viewport is constrained. - Keep the focused editor visible after viewport resize and scroll events. - Add unit coverage for visual viewport updates and focus scrolling. - Add Playwright coverage for mobile, tablet, desktop keyboard, and unconstrained desktop layouts. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx` — 27 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed with all gates clean. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` — passed. - `pnpm exec playwright test tests/storybook-visual/new-issue-dialog-viewport.spec.ts --config tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts` — 4 tests passed. ## Risks - Low risk. The custom geometry only activates when `visualViewport.height` is less than `window.innerHeight`. - Browsers without the Visual Viewport API keep the existing dialog primitive behavior. - The browser test checks hit targets and visible bounds at mobile, tablet, and desktop widths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The service did not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: structure and humanize recovery notices (#11075)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Paperclip posts system comments when automatic run recovery cannot continue > - These comments currently mix the main event with recovery identifiers and routing details > - The task chat shell also renders these comments as large raw text blocks > - Operators need a short explanation first and inspectable evidence on demand > - This pull request emits structured recovery notices and renders them as compact humanized rows > - The benefit is a quieter task thread that keeps the full recovery evidence available ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related prior extraction source: #11070. This pull request replaces only its structured recovery notice slice with a focused branch based on current master. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Paperclip recovery escalations and the experimental task chat system-comment renderer. **Current behavior** Recovery escalation comments put action identifiers, owner details, run details, and failure codes into the visible markdown body. The task chat shell renders the complete system comment as a large text block. **Proposed behavior** The server emits a short system notice with typed metadata sections. The task chat shell classifies known recovery families and renders one compact row. An operator can expand the row to inspect the full body and metadata. **Reason and benefit** The main thread stays readable during repeated recovery activity. Typed links and evidence remain available without exposing raw failure text in the default view. **Breaking changes** The visible recovery comment body is shorter. Recovery action deduplication now reads the structured metadata and still recognizes legacy body markers. No API schema or database migration changes. ## What Changed - Emit stranded recovery escalations with `system_notice` presentation and typed recovery, owner, run, and failure-code metadata. - Share bounded metadata row builders across recovery notice producers and preserve legacy deduplication compatibility. - Humanize known recovery notice families and render compact expandable task-chat rows. - Route system-authored comments ahead of derived agent authorship so recovery notices do not appear as agent bubbles. - Add focused server and UI regression coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 clean. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared exec vitest run src/validators/issue.test.ts` — 32 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/recovery/stranded-notice.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-recovery-actions.test.ts` — 57 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/recovery/successful-run-handoff.test.ts src/services/recovery/stranded-notice.test.ts` — 39 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts -t 'escalates an exhausted failed successful-run handoff without using generic continuation recovery first|escalates an exhausted successful handoff run that still leaves no disposition'` — 2 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts -t 'blocks assigned todo work after the one automatic dispatch recovery was already used'` — passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/lib/system-notice-humanizer.test.ts src/components/task-chat/TaskChatSystemNotice.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/task-chat-adapter.test.ts` — 15 tests passed. - Storybook visual baselines were not updated because this chat-shell path has no affected snapshot baseline. Focused rendering tests and token gates cover this change. ## Risks - Consumers that parse recovery action identifiers from comment markdown must move to structured metadata. Server deduplication remains backward compatible with legacy comments. - The humanizer uses stable recovery-family phrases. Unknown notices use a generic truncated first-sentence fallback. - The UI changes only the experimental task chat presentation. The stored comment body and expanded metadata remain available. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. The runtime did not expose a context-window size.
