fix(ui): complete read recovery and enforce query error rendering (#18822)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage agent work through the board. > - The board reads task, agent, settings, plugin, and run data from the server. > - A deploy can interrupt those reads after content is already visible. > - Local error branches can replace that content with an error or show raw codes. > - This pull request moves the remaining reads to the shared recovery behavior. > - The query-error guard prevents new local error patterns from returning. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Loaded lists, settings, task panels, and manual reads could clear their content or show errors during a server restart. Some reads also disabled the shared retry policy. **Expected behavior** Keep loaded content during a temporary failure. Show the shared connection banner. Retry reads after recovery. Replace content after a real access denial or missing resource, with readable copy. **Steps to reproduce** Open a task, settings page, or run log. Return 503 with `tenant_app_unavailable` from the API. Restore the API and check that content refreshes. Repeat with 403 and 404 to check the failure state. Related merged work: Refs #15754, Refs #15772, Refs #17960. This change covers remaining reads and enforcement. Browser persistence and the outage browser suite follow separately. ## What Changed - Repair an existing PostgreSQL deadline fixture at UTC boundaries. A daily cap defers a heartbeat until both its original interval and the next UTC day allow it. Keep the counted run in its seeded day and cover noon, just before midnight and the first second after midnight with explicit clocks and real PostgreSQL. Production scheduling is unchanged. - Integrate the saved list, settings, shell, task, and manual-read recovery changes against current master. Preserve the current task, Inbox, and run-log structure. - Add `useResilientFetch` for component-local reads. Preserve loaded data, cancel stale requests, and retry through the shared connectivity policy. Keep browser and pairing capabilities in memory. - Retain run log chunks across stream changes and catch up after recovery without duplicate chunks or stalled requests. - Keep genuine authorization and missing-resource failures visible. Translate known single-word codes such as `forbidden`. Show known skills and disconnected-app failures before sibling loading states. Keep Retry bound to its failed request. - Make the query-error guard enforce by default and run it in the CI policy job. Document the narrow exceptions and the read recovery contract. - Invalidate pending OAuth discovery when the operator leaves setup or its context changes. Keep reserved-popup cleanup bound to the current attempt. ## Verification - Current read head `09d1db29dea` is merge-ready: all 59 check runs are completed (54 successful, three skipped, two neutral), the legacy Snyk status is successful, and both required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass. Greptile Apex reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads; the branch has no merge conflicts. The current CI run is `41748339602`. - Current read head `09d1db29dea` includes master `683fa4725e9`. The latest change touches only the existing server deadline test fixture. Application source remains the previously verified `86376fa751e` revision: all 60 affected skills/disconnected-app tests and both application UI typechecks passed, along with token gates and the enforcing query-error guard. Those UI suites were not repeated for this test-only repair. - The fixture repair passes all seven deadline integration cases and the complete server typecheck, including the server test layer. The old assertion deterministically fails at 23:59:06.888 UTC; its one-second-old run also fails the first-second-of-day probe. The corrected fixture passes noon and both midnight probes. The permanent three-case coverage uses seeded 2099 clocks. - Twelve new regressions fail against the previous implementation. Both skills variants and disconnected-app pages show either request's 403 or 429 while the sibling pauses or remains fetching. Permission failures stay visible. Retry stays usable for its failed request and recovers independently. An initial test-fixture query-key typo was corrected before the passing run. The finding is replied to and resolved. Greptile reviewed prior application revision `86376fa751e` at 5/5 with no new actionable findings or unresolved threads. The current test-only head has now received its own Apex 5/5 review with no unresolved threads, and its CI is successful as recorded above. - The preceding OAuth fix passed all 237 setup tests on both application branches. Its ten regressions prove that Back, Cancel, unmount, or context changes retire initial discovery without creating a connection, caching old identities, navigating an abandoned popup, or closing a newer attempt. - Earlier master integration `e992f770339` passed all 309 tests across eight affected Slack, recovery, retry, submission and task files, plus UI typecheck, token gates, enforcing query-error scan and seven guard tests. The integration preserves Slack workspace reconnect and shared recovery, readable execution errors, source-inspection company scoping, and current submission behavior. Newly inherited retained-file recovery controls keep cached data through transient failures and hide it after definitive denial. - The preceding cache head `97c0bc3966f` passed 1,038 focused cache/write/editor/account/task/API tests. All 22 built-UI outage/write/loading cases passed in 4.7 minutes on exact browser head `b7deaaee5da`, with strict checking of all three specs. The latest skills/app rendering fix is covered by its affected component suites; those broader cases were not repeated for this separate read path. - Historical broader UI, CLI and build results and unresolved aggregate server/DB/adapter failures remain in the PR discussion. Interrupted CI runs were audited and recorded separately; they are not counted as passes. Controlled local outages do not prove hosted authentication or a real Cloud restart/deploy. Real hosted acceptance remains required after merge and deployment. Commands for the latest fix: ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/CompanySkills.test.tsx src/pages/apps/AppNotConnected.test.tsx pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck pnpm check:token-gates node scripts/check-query-error-rendering.mjs --enforce --summary ``` ## Risks This migration touches many read surfaces. The main risks are initial loading, request cancellation, retained authorization state, and run-log paging. The tests cover those states. There are no server, schema, dependency, or API contract changes. The follow-up browser suite and hosted deploy acceptance are required before release acceptance. Recovered commits retain their original authors. If squash-merging, preserve `Co-Authored-By: Bender (Fable) <bender@agents.paperclip.ing>` and the Paperclip trailer. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex, with xhigh reasoning effort, tool use, and code execution. fix(ui): hide workspace isolation controls for managed hosts (#13907)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Workspace isolation keeps task checkouts separate. > - Managed hosts can enable isolation and hide its experimental toggles. > - Project, task, and routine forms still expose choices that override that policy. > - This pull request adds an operator visibility key for those controls. > - Workspace access stays available, and execution keeps its existing policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator control over workspace isolation settings in the UI. This follows the settings list cleanup in #13905. **Current behavior** Hiding the experimental isolation toggles leaves project policy editors, task selectors, routine and pipeline overrides, recovery actions, and workspace configuration visible. **Proposed behavior** Set `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS=workspaces.isolation` to hide these controls. Keep workspace navigation, status, files, and runtime access. Hide experimental toggles separately. Instances that do not set this key keep their controls. **Reason and benefit** Users on managed hosts should use the host's isolation default. A hidden form must not submit a stale draft that overrides it. ## What Changed - Add the UI-only `workspaces.isolation` key to the shared visibility registry. - Hide project workspace policy, task and subtask selectors, routine and pipeline overrides, and isolated re-issue actions. - Hide the workspace Configuration tab and redirect direct links to workspace issues. - Omit hidden new-task and routine overrides. Keep explicit task/subtask workspace launch context, saved policies, and automatic branch values for workspace routine runs. - Wait for the health visibility policy before showing controls. Keep workspace access and all execution APIs available. - Document the key and test visibility, form payloads, deep links, and unchanged workspace access. ## Verification - All 52 CI checks pass on `50cc770d33` (two expected skips). The branch is mergeable. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved comments. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - Targeted UI checks passed: 346 tests across 14 suites, including hidden project/task controls, stale task drafts, routine branch defaults, recovery actions, configuration deep links, and workspace access. - Shared settings-visibility tests passed: 11 tests. - `pnpm test:run` was run and stopped after reproducing five failures in unchanged server tests: two `chat-channels.integration` cases (linked-request provenance and direct external-chat finals) and three `company-skills-service` cases (runtime refresh, concurrent download, and explicit update). The earlier local run for #13905 showed the same failures. The full local suite is not claimed green. Targeted UI/shared checks pass. All PR CI shards, including the affected chat and skills suites, pass. - Reviewed the diff for secrets, private links, and run artifacts. ## Risks This key changes UI visibility only. It does not reject API calls or change feature values. Operators must enable isolation and its default through their existing policy mechanism. Older app versions ignore the new key until upgraded. Removing the key restores the controls. No schema changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository tools, and test execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally; targeted checks pass (full-suite limitation documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add task workspace picker to properties pane (#12693)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task properties pane lets an operator change the settings for one task. > - The pane did not let an operator select the execution workspace for the next run. > - The existing workspace card had selection rules that another control could copy by mistake. > - This pull request adds one shared selection module and one compact property picker. > - The picker keeps the current workspace active until the next run. > - The benefit is a clear workspace choice in the task properties pane without an API change. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React + Vite board UI **Problem or motivation** An operator cannot set the execution workspace from the new task properties pane. The existing task workspace card also owns selection rules that a second control could copy and change over time. **Proposed solution** Add a compact workspace property picker. Put the shared selection and update rules in one UI module. Show the picker only when isolated workspaces and the project workspace policy are enabled. **Alternatives considered** The existing workspace card could remain the only control. This would leave the new task interface incomplete. The picker could also copy the card logic, but that would create two sources of truth. **Roadmap alignment** This is a small UI improvement for existing workspace controls. It does not duplicate a planned item in `ROADMAP.md`. Related workspace work: Refs #12682. That pull request changes runner recovery and other workspace controls. It does not add this task property picker. ## What Changed - Added shared helpers for the current workspace selection and its issue update payload. - Updated the existing workspace card to use the shared helpers without changing its project-default behavior. - Added a gated workspace property picker with mode and workspace search steps. - Added unit and component tests for visibility, selection payloads, search, and workspace reuse. - Rebased onto the upstream native-run teardown fix so CI drains background heartbeat writes before PostgreSQL cleanup. ## Verification - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/lib/issue-workspace-selection.test.ts src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx` — 74 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/services/native-runtime/native-question-bridge.test.ts` — 8 tests passed on the rebased head. The upstream teardown drain prevents the prior PostgreSQL cleanup deadlock. ## Risks - Low risk. This is a gated UI-only change. - A wrong selection payload could change the next workspace mode. Exact payload tests cover every mode. - The old card must keep its existing project-default payload. A shared-helper test covers that payload. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex with GPT-5. The exact serving revision and context window are not exposed. The agent used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets, agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind > - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at ~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no visual regression coverage > - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration > - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs > - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface: retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed visually without committing hundreds of PNGs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens", "visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of the same problem class this PR addresses systematically). **Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage; consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file edits. **Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate + externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle on top of that foundation. ## What Changed - **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved ~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`. - **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255 stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`, plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes. - **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed. `tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs` handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload` flows. - **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`, downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate baseline objects. - **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**` and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate opt-outs. - **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` + Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps. - **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills, RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical `--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces that used dark-tuned text classes. - **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form, second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified. - **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline review/update workflows. - Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames (`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`). ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system run - `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green during the design-system run - `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` — pass after external-baseline rework - `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext --moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after external-baseline rework - `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline rework - `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` — `0` - `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json` ## Risks - **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot churn has been removed from the branch. - **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata. A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then update `baseline-manifest.json`. - **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count mismatch. - **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual` label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable Playwright report/test-result artifacts. - **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository, terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run targeted local verification and documented the intentional baseline-publication failure above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green *(pending new CI run after this rework)* - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups *(pending review)* - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and OpenAI Codex --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(routines): add date variable controls (#8655)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Scheduled routines can prompt agents with variables that are filled in at dispatch time. > - Existing routine variable handling supported plain text-like values, but date inputs need a structured contract so routines can pass consistent date values. > - Operators also need date variables to be easy to configure and override from the routine UI. > - This pull request adds a date variable type across shared validation, server dispatch, and UI editing/run dialogs. > - The benefit is that routine authors can define date inputs once and agents receive validated ISO-style date values when routines run. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #219 Feature request: - Problem/motivation: Scheduled routines need first-class, typed date variables so operators can configure dates without relying on free-form text conventions. - Proposed solution: Add an `x-date` routine variable type with shared parsing/validation, server dispatch support, and UI date-picker controls in routine variable editors and run dialogs. - Alternatives considered: Continue treating dates as plain text, but that leaves validation and formatting to individual operators and agents. - Roadmap alignment: This is a focused improvement to the completed Scheduled Routines milestone and does not duplicate an active roadmap item. Related PR search: - Searched existing PRs/issues for `routine date picker`, `date variables`, and `scheduled routine date variable`; no direct duplicate PR was found. ## What Changed - Added the shared `x-date` routine variable contract, parsing, defaults, and validation coverage. - Extended routine dispatch to validate and pass date variable values. - Added date input controls to the routine variable editor and routine run variables dialog. - Added focused tests for shared validation, server dispatch, and the UI date controls. ## Verification - `git diff --check public/master...HEAD` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/routine-variables.test.ts packages/shared/src/validators/routine.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts ui/src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx ui/src/components/RoutineVariablesEditor.test.tsx` - 5 test files passed - 68 tests passed ## Risks Low to medium risk. This adds a new routine variable type across shared/server/UI paths, so the main risk is compatibility with existing routine variable payloads. The change keeps existing variable types intact and adds targeted validation tests for the new date behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, with terminal, git, GitHub CLI, and local test execution capabilities.

Improve operator workflow QoL (#5291)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is a control plane operators use repeatedly to supervise agent companies. > - Common operator workflows depend on fast scanning of inboxes, issue sidebars, workspaces, cost totals, and runtime services. > - Several small UI and service gaps made those workflows slower or less clear. > - This pull request groups the operator-facing QoL changes that can stand alone from recovery and adapter work. > - The benefit is a denser, clearer board experience for issue triage and workspace operation. ## What Changed - Added inbox assignee/project grouping and issue list token/runtime totals. - Improved issue properties with removable blocker chips and workspace task links. - Improved execution workspace layout, runtime controls, issues tab default, and stopped-port reuse behavior. - Added mobile markdown/routine dialog fixes, page title company names, sidebar polish, and dashboard run task label cleanup. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/WorkspaceRuntimeControls.test.tsx server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts server/src/__tests__/costs-service.test.ts` ## Risks - Medium UI risk because this touches several operator surfaces. The branch is intentionally grouped around workflow/QoL files and keeps the file count below the Greptile limit. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 Codex via Paperclip `codex_local` adapter, with shell/git/GitHub CLI tool use. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add workspace routine run tab (#4958)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents through reusable execution workspaces and routines > - Operators need a fast way to run workspace-aware routines against a specific execution workspace > - The existing workspace detail surface showed configuration, runtime logs, and linked issues, but not routines that depend on workspace variables > - Routine runs also needed to prefill the selected execution workspace so branch variables resolve correctly > - This pull request adds a workspace routines tab and prefilled routine-run dialog support > - The benefit is a tighter workflow for rerunning reviews, smoke checks, and other workspace-specific routines ## What Changed - Added an execution workspace `Routines` tab and company-prefixed routes. - Listed routines that declare or reference workspace-specific variables. - Added `Run now` support that preselects the current execution workspace in `RoutineRunVariablesDialog`. - Centralized reusable execution workspace ordering/deduplication for issue creation and workspace cards. - Added focused UI helper and dialog regression tests. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/lib/reusable-execution-workspaces.test.ts ui/src/lib/workspace-routines.test.ts ui/src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx ui/src/lib/company-routes.test.ts` - Screenshots were not captured in this PR split; the visible flow is covered by focused component/helper tests and should get browser QA in the follow-up issue. ## Risks - Medium risk: this adds a new workspace detail tab and routine-run path. It is isolated to workspace-scoped routines and uses existing routine run APIs. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent, tool use and local command execution. Exact context window was not exposed in the runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Respect manual workspace runtime controls (#4125)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents inside execution and project workspaces > - Workspace runtime services can be controlled manually by operators and reused by agent runs > - Manual start/stop state was not preserved consistently across workspace policies and routine launches > - Routine launches also needed branch/workspace variables to default from the selected workspace context > - This pull request makes runtime policy state explicit, preserves manual control, and auto-fills routine branch variables from workspace data > - The benefit is less surprising workspace service behavior and fewer manual inputs when running workspace-scoped routines ## What Changed - Added runtime-state handling for manual workspace control across execution and project workspace validators, routes, and services. - Updated heartbeat/runtime startup behavior so manually stopped services are respected. - Auto-filled routine workspace branch variables from available workspace context. - Added focused server and UI tests for workspace runtime and routine variable behavior. - Removed muted gray background styling from workspace pages and cards for a cleaner workspace UI. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts ui/src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx` - Result: 55 tests passed, 21 skipped. The embedded Postgres routines tests skipped on this host with the existing PGlite/Postgres init warning; workspace-runtime and UI tests passed. ## Risks - Medium risk: this touches runtime service start/stop policy and heartbeat launch behavior. - The focused tests cover manual runtime state, routine variables, and workspace runtime reuse paths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, tool-enabled local shell and GitHub workflow, exact runtime context window not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots, or documented why targeted component/service verification is sufficient here - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Polish issue and operator workflow UI (#4090)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip operators spend much of their time in issues, inboxes, selectors, and rich comment threads. > - Small interaction problems in those surfaces slow down supervision of AI-agent work. > - The branch included related operator quality-of-life fixes for issue layout, inbox actions, recent selectors, mobile inputs, and chat rendering stability. > - These changes are UI-focused and can land independently from workspace navigation and access-profile work. > - This pull request groups the operator QoL fixes into one standalone branch. > - The benefit is a more stable and efficient board workflow for issue triage and task editing. ## What Changed - Widened issue detail content and added a desktop inbox archive action. - Fixed mobile text-field zoom by keeping touch input font sizes at 16px. - Prioritized recent picker selections for assignees/projects in issue and routine flows. - Showed actionable approvals in the Mine inbox model. - Fixed issue chat renderer state crashes and hardened tests. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/lib/recent-selections.test.ts` - Split integration check: merged last after the other [PAP-1614](/PAP/issues/PAP-1614) branches with no merge conflicts. - Confirmed this branch does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Risks - Low to medium risk: mostly UI state, layout, and selection-priority behavior. - Visual layout and mobile zoom behavior may need browser/device QA beyond component tests. - No database migrations are included. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.4 tool-enabled coding model, agentic code-editing/runtime with local shell and GitHub CLI access; exact context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the Paperclip harness. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] improve issue and routine UI responsiveness (#3744)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Operators rely on issue, inbox, and routine views to understand what the company is doing in real time > - Those views need to stay fast and readable even when issue lists, markdown comments, and run metadata get large > - The current branch had a coherent set of UI and live-update improvements spread across issue search, issue detail rendering, routine affordances, and workspace lookups > - This pull request groups those board-facing changes into one standalone branch that can merge independently of the heartbeat/runtime work > - The benefit is a faster, clearer issue and routine workflow without changing the underlying task model ## What Changed - Show routine execution issues by default and rename the filter to `Hide routine runs` so the default state no longer looks like an active filter. - Show the routine name in the run dialog and tighten the issue properties pane with a workspace link, copy-on-click behavior, and an inline parent arrow. - Reduce issue detail rerenders, keep queued issue chat mounted, improve issues page search responsiveness, and speed up issues first paint. - Add inbox "other search results", refresh visible issue runs after status updates, and optimize workspace lookups through summary-mode execution workspace queries. - Improve markdown wrapping and scrolling behavior for long strings and self-comment code blocks. - Relax the markdown sanitizer assertion so the test still validates safety after the new wrap-friendly inline styles. ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/pages/Issues.test.tsx ui/src/context/BreadcrumbContext.test.tsx ui/src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider.test.ts ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/api/execution-workspaces.test.ts server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-routes.test.ts` ## Risks - This touches several issue-facing UI surfaces at once, so regressions would most likely show up as stale rendering, search result mismatches, or small markdown presentation differences. - The workspace lookup optimization depends on the summary-mode route shape staying aligned between server and UI. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent in the Codex CLI environment. Exact backend model deployment ID was not exposed in-session. Tool-assisted editing and shell execution were used. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
