feat(evals): browse E2E suites across targets and models (#18027)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - E2E tests show whether people can complete real app and agent journeys. > - Operators need to choose a suite and inspect its evidence across deployments and models. > - The history page listed campaigns without a suite browser or clear coverage filters. > - QA smoke also appeared separate from the other retained E2E measurements. > - This pull request puts suites, deployment targets, and named selections in one history browser. > - The benefit is that a passing subset stays distinct from a full suite run, with direct links to evidence. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #18009 added clear per-test details and links to the tested application. This PR extends the shared E2E history browser. **What happened?** The public directory called full app testing “Product E2E Evals” and made users choose campaigns before they could find a suite. The history list could not filter independently by tested app, agent execution, model, or run selection. A recent passing subset could be mistaken for a full suite result. **Expected behavior** Browse current and retained suites in one E2E category. Keep QA smoke in normal campaign history. Show the latest matching run and latest full suite run. Preserve the recorded definition and denominator when filters change. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the E2E history directory. 2. Find a suite, then compare a narrow passing run with a full run across execution environments and models. 3. Find the QA smoke measurement and open its retained screenshots. **Paperclip version or commit** The previous report UI was at `8279c99008`. This branch is rebased on current master. **Deployment mode** Static E2E history and campaign reports generated from retained measurements. ## What Changed - Call full-product testing “E2E tests.” Keep Runner protocol evals separate because they use a mock control plane. - Add a searchable suite sidebar that includes current suites and suites found only in retained history. - Add correlated suite, coverage, deployment target, execution, provider, model, profile, runtime, result, date, and named-selection filters. Keep filters in the URL for reload and back navigation. Sidebar suite links clear other filters; the Suite dropdown keeps deliberate intersections. Incompatible suite/preset URLs explain the empty selection and link to the suite runs. - Show latest matching and latest full run links. Distinguish full, subset, unfinished, and unknown coverage from the recorded suite definition and execution counts. Keep failed full runs visible. - Retain the tested application URL and runtime mode in new history records. Older records show “Not recorded.” Browser-only journeys do not gain an inferred agent or model. - Add an index-only refresh command that can import a reviewed public campaign once. It rejects private Cloud bundles and does not replace retained campaigns or upload evidence. - Keep existing report URLs, test IDs, commands, and measurement timestamps stable. Campaign links carry suite/profile/environment; target/model/provider/runtime remain history-level filters. - Add unit and synthetic browser regressions, including mobile navigation, long source refs, sidebar filter reset, and empty-selection repair. Inset dropdown carets in the shared report styles. Document direct Node entry points without adding package.json shortcuts. - Add a prominent Reset all filters button, blue active-filter borders and tint, and visible active counts for the main and advanced filters. Reset clears all 13 history filters, sidebar search, URL state, and the attention view. Campaign-page filters use the same active styling. ## Verification - Post-rebase focused Vitest: 127 tests passed across 10 files. The latest follow-up selection passed 100 tests across 9 files. E2E support TypeScript passed after both changes. - The synthetic Chromium journey covers full and subset coverage, unfinished selections, correlated filters, browser-only QA selection, URL/back/reload, and desktop and touch navigation. The expanded journey verifies 13 active history fields, the collapsed advanced-filter count, reset of every field and sidebar search, and active border color changes that revert after reset. It makes zero provider calls. - Hub Python tests: 7 passed. The browser harness also exits promptly when Chromium is unavailable; its HTTP server closes on launch failure. - Real history verification covered 419 campaigns and 59 suites. All 418 previous campaign records remained deeply equal after importing the reviewed QA campaign. Publication used the authoritative history ETag. Only mutable index/history/pointer files were written; immutable campaign bundles stayed unchanged. - A live browser walkthrough passed from the two-family eval hub through QA smoke, Basic app journeys, target filtering, the retained report, screenshot gallery, history, and the logo link. The QA URL was clickable and the image loaded. No browser JavaScript errors occurred. The original QA normalized results and all three PNG hashes remained unchanged. - Live [E2E history](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/?view=history), [core compatibility suite](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/?view=history&suite=core-compatibility), and [QA smoke runs](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/?view=history&preset=qa-smoke). - The live follow-up verified the incompatible Stock harness/QA-smoke URL, the repair link to 21 Stock harness campaigns, and sidebar navigation that clears preset/model filters. Dropdown carets were inspected in dark, light, and mobile views. No JavaScript errors occurred. - The final live follow-up verified reset of history controls, URL state, sidebar search, and the attention view, plus reload/back restoration and mobile touch reset. Active filter borders and tint were inspected in dark and light views. Campaign-page reset restored all three QA cases. All 419 history records and original QA measurement/evidence hashes stayed unchanged. - Full repository typecheck, test, build, and E2E CI gates passed on final head `1334cb79a5`. Both enforced aggregates, `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, completed successfully. Fresh Greptile review scored that exact head 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Historical metadata can be missing. Unknown targets and runtime details stay explicit instead of being inferred from a worker environment. - Full suite coverage follows the saved definition and selection. Filtering to one model does not redefine that denominator. The latest full-run shortcut can cross coverage selections and says so in its detail text. - This changes shared report presentation. It adds no application runtime or database changes. The browser harness and index refresh do not invoke models. - Public history publication must keep its existing conditional-write and retained-evidence boundaries. Private bundles, raw logs, credentials, and screenshots are not part of this PR. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, code execution, and browser tools. The exact backend model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(evals): clarify report details and link tested applications (#18009)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Product E2E reports help operators inspect real application journeys. > - A worker environment does not identify the application that a journey tested. > - Reports hid that URL and gave missing diagnostics too much space. > - Standalone reports also sent the logo link to a missing parent page. > - This pull request shows the recorded target and checks in the shared report. > - The benefit is a clear report with useful links and inspectable diagnostics. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A standalone Product E2E report had no application link in test details or the screenshot gallery. Its details showed several empty diagnostic sections before useful information. The logo could resolve to the page host root and return 404. Campaign notes added outside the report shell could overlap the fixed sidebar. **Expected behavior** Show the recorded application URL beside each test and screenshot. Put recorded checks before optional diagnostics. Keep campaign context inside the shared layout. Link the logo to the evaluations directory. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Render a retained campaign at a standalone page path without a history index. 2. Open a test with screenshot evidence and missing startup timing. 3. Inspect test details and gallery information, then click the report logo. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in the report renderer at `39e811c9c5`. This branch applies the fix to current master. **Deployment mode** Static Product E2E HTML report generated from retained normalized results. ## What Changed - Add optional recorded `targetUrl` metadata and resolve existing Product E2E and provider-connection targets. Only HTTP and HTTPS links without embedded credentials are shown. - Show the target URL in test details and screenshot gallery information. - Put recorded checks and execution facts first. Keep raw usage, timing, and startup details under Diagnostics. Preserve missing metadata as unknown. - Keep campaign titles, descriptions, notes, and evidence links inside the shared report layout during retained-evidence regeneration. - Fix standalone navigation and let the brand lockup wrap at narrow sidebar widths. - Match report profiles by suite and recorded provider/model before falling back to an inferred profile. - Add report regressions and document the retained metadata contract. ## Verification - Focused report tests: 86 passed across 8 files on the isolated branch. Command: `node node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run --config tests/runner-e2e/vitest.config.ts report-target.test.ts report-navigation.test.ts report-catalog.test.ts first-task-report.test.ts report.test.ts dashboard-regenerate.test.ts`. - Browser verification covered dark desktop widths 1440 and 1000, light intermediate width 780, and dark mobile width 390. It covered the drawer, URL links, gallery keyboard navigation, focus return, and the logo destination. - The published retained report keeps all 3 original passing cases and 7 recorded checks. Its campaign and screenshot bytes remain unchanged. This presentation refresh made zero provider calls. - Full `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, and the eval TypeScript check passed after rebuilding the reused package dependencies. The first typecheck attempt had stale local dependency builds; those errors are resolved. - The local `pnpm test:run` attempt hit repeated embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap failures in server suites. I stopped that attempt and retained its log. It is not counted as a passing check. Current-head CI remains the full test gate. - Review follow-ups add provider/model and cross-suite profile regressions. Malformed campaign presentation metadata is rejected before any report or retained-result writes; ten malformed input cases verify that retained results stay unchanged. ## Risks - This changes presentation across Product E2E reports. Historical reports without a target show “Not recorded” rather than an inferred URL. - Unknown startup reuse data remains in raw metadata but no longer creates an empty table. - Standalone logo links open the shared public evaluations directory. Campaign history links still use a matching history index when present. - No application runtime, database, or measurement verdict changes are included. Private QA configuration and raw campaign evidence stay outside this PR. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Operationalize Product E2E accounting, tracing, and scheduling (#17009)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and the work they perform. > - Product E2E tests exercise real agents, tools, setup and cleanup. > - Repeated runs need retained costs and traces, including failed attempts. > - A passing retry must not hide earlier spending or feedback. > - Recurring work also needs admission limits, private reports and failure detection. > - This change supplies those controls while keeping paid activation behind existing gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16996 and #17158. This is the consolidated landing of the reviewed eval operations stack: #17019, #17024, #17025, #17027, #17030, #17033, #17035, #17038, #17043, #17044, #17048, #17050, #17051, #17092, #17096, #17100, #17107, #17109, #17112, #17115, #17117, #17121, #17123, #17127, #17130, #17133, #17134, #17137, #17140, #17143, #17154. The repository permits squash merges only. A local rehearsal showed that squashing each slice into master causes repeated conflicts in dependent slices. This PR preserves their commits and lands their combined implementation in one reviewed integration. Superseded slices will close after this merge. ## What Changed - Retain every attempt's cost receipt, including setup, failures, interruptions and retries. Separate reported amounts, estimates, missing costs and reserved capacity in reports and dashboards. - Add bounded request admission, exact model pricecards, gateway error accounting, cache policy and reconciliation evidence. Refuse unsupported routes and requests that cannot fit the allowance. - Integrate Braintrust gateway traces and OTLP correlation, with secret filtering and experiment imports. Record phase timing, including setup, feedback capture and cleanup. - Collect complaint and suggestion evidence after each attempt, including recovery after failures. Retain explicit review dispositions independently from the product grade. - Add gated daily and weekly selections, measured forecasts, setup/readiness checks, wall-time limits and retained monitor notifications. Include declared non-model overhead in admission while reporting the existing subscription separately. - Keep recurring history private, bound uploads and retention, and use isolated archive environments. Keep public publication an explicit operation. Report and publication jobs install only the committed lockfile, with scripts disabled and isolated stores; stale pins fail closed. - Integrate current master, preserve its Product E2E journey billing and privacy checks, and test that shared setup receipts do not double-count estimated agent usage. Preserve upstream fixture repairs. ## Verification - Complete integration baseline `0649a5ce7544ab20825c2183d2f421157db49f24` includes master `a3e1d915a7110a4e115b46396a3f79e6dfb4d05e` and every original stack head as ancestors. - On that integration baseline, `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit`: 4,012 Vitest tests passed, two skipped, across 193 files; all 137 Node source-contract tests passed. - Focused billing and Product E2E journey contract checks: 24 tests passed. They cover estimates, unknown receipts, single-owner setup costs, browser-only execution and private publication guards. - Monitor and workflow wiring: all 96 Node tests passed. `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs`: all gates clean. - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:typecheck` passes after the standard Runner TypeScript build refreshed local declarations. The first attempt rejected the new master `runner_prepared_launch` union member because this checkout retained an older generated declaration; the source union already contained that member. - Current head `492b0708a1c531a023d9ac10f0f3dc6383cc1754` removes dependency re-resolution from archive-authorized reporting jobs after the security scan flagged it. All 15 workflow-security tests pass after updating the old two-install assertion. - Hosted [CI run 39965460180](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39965460180) passes on the current repaired head, including typecheck, build, general tests, Runner checks, browser shards and canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 on this exact head with no unresolved threads. The security scan passes after the fixed lockfile-resolution thread was resolved. - Paperclip Review returned a terminal neutral check but an incomplete 0-file assessment on the repaired head: its platform blocked both diff responses as prompt-injection content. This is not a successful code review. No bypass or fabricated pass was attempted; current-head Greptile, security and hosted CI are independent gates. - No paid test, reservation release or recurring-run activation accompanies this landing. Live route qualification and invoice reconciliation remain separate evidence. <details> <summary>Retained earlier validation failures</summary> Earlier broad local runs had two 15-second test timeouts (CLI poll cadence and Retry validation), one embedded-database setup timeout, and later PostgreSQL semaphore exhaustion. The exact timed-out tests passed separately without larger timeouts; the broad-run causes were not established. Those local failures remain distinct from subsequent hosted CI results. The independent #17158 fix records its Muse fixture collision, its UUID correction and hosted verification. Local Muse execution was also blocked by macOS embedded-PostgreSQL startup. No historical failure is treated as a successful paid qualification. </details> ## Risks - Admission is a local control, not a provider invoice cap. Missing provider receipts or resource charges retain unknown amounts and holds; estimates do not become billed dollars. - The bounded path admits only documented local suites and provider routes. Ordinary legacy or separate Runner protocol campaigns have different controls. Merging this code does not qualify additional routes. - Recurrence still needs the existing enable gates and current qualification/allowance evidence. Archive permissions and resources must match the documented private-environment contract. - Legacy reports may lack complete attempt or phase evidence. Reports preserve that limitation and do not infer zero usage from missing data. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools and code execution. The exact deployment variant and context-window size are not exposed by this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted checks; full-suite host limitation disclosed above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Improve runner E2E report navigation and local previews (#16996)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app that people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Product E2E campaigns check user journeys across agent profiles and environments. > - Readers use the campaign history and reports to inspect results and retained evidence. > - The reports showed image summaries, many unselected suites, and a long sticky index. > - Individual case cards also showed routine diagnostics before the visual evidence. > - This pull request adds text summaries, feature filters, folding case indexes, and simpler cards. > - A local preview uses retained public data so designers can change reports without another paid campaign. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Current behavior** The report is hard to scan as the journey catalog grows. Suite links can point into hidden results. Case indexes do not show whether a case passed across its configurations. Design changes also need a realistic local preview. **Proposed behavior** Show the selected campaign as text. Link journeys to current feature-map capabilities. Add folding case indexes with status indicators, reliable section links, and a back-to-top control. Keep failed outcomes visible and put routine diagnostics under Test details. Render retained public campaign data with local templates. **Reason and benefit** Readers can find a feature or failed case faster. Designers can iterate against real retained data without starting an application instance or using provider credentials. **Breaking changes** No result schema or grading change. The report stops embedding the generated summary PNG. The publisher still produces that artifact for existing consumers. Related work: #12889 added the existing matrix browser. #12846 concerns the public image publication boundary. This PR changes report presentation and local preview behavior. ## What Changed - Replace image summaries with shared HTML suite summaries on the history and campaign pages. - Show selected executions and preserve missing results for selected cells. - Add explicit journey-to-capability associations, feature filters, and a coverage view with unmapped journeys. - Add folding case indexes, section case lists, and red, green, or amber status indicators across matching configurations. - Fix anchor navigation through filters and add a floating back-to-top control. - Simplify case cards. Keep failure reasons visible. Fold routine checks, billing, and context into Test details. - Add an original-image link to the gallery. - Add a local preview utility with public data caching and offline mode. Document the direct Node command. - Test manifest-listed evidence, rejection of unlisted files and encoded traversal, cache reuse, and offline misses with a real loopback server and a stub downloader. ## Verification - Focused report, history, and preview tests: 75 passed in 6 files. - Report Playwright spec: 4 passed in Chrome with a standalone config that does not start the application server. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed. - `git diff --check`: passed. - Manually checked retained campaign reports, feature filters, folding indexes, failure links, card details, gallery links, mobile layout, and keyboard navigation. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm test:run`: stopped after 15 native session database cases failed. The local Postgres package first lacked dynamic-library links. After link hydration, the same cases still failed. A direct `initdb` check then reported `could not create semaphores: No space left on device` and identified the macOS semaphore limit. The complete local suite has not passed. - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit`: 3,250 passed, 6 failed, 2 skipped. All six failures reproduced against unchanged `origin/master` report sources with the same installed dependencies. They concern Copilot admission and its Daytona image input, plus the launcher test that runs those assertions. No report or history test failed. - No live provider evaluation was run for this presentation change. - CI on `b1a9c06823` first failed browser shard 3/8. The agent-chat split-handoff test reached cleanup, where cancelling a run returned HTTP 500 from a Postgres deadlock. Cleanup did not restore the experiment setting, and a later test failed its initial setting check. This shard does not contain the report spec. One targeted rerun passed, and that full workflow then passed. This shows recovery; no production fix was made for the deadlock. The later preview-test commit requires its own fresh checks. To review the design, run `node --watch --import ./cli/node_modules/tsx/dist/loader.mjs tests/runner-e2e/preview.ts`. Open the history address printed by the command, then open a campaign. The README covers offline mode and cache refresh. ## Risks - Feature associations use the current map. They describe linked scenarios, not proof that a whole capability is covered. Historical grades remain unchanged. - New or unfamiliar cases remain unmapped until their assertions are inspected. - The preview needs the public history host on first access. Offline mode requires cached files. It binds to the loopback interface and serves manifest-listed public evidence. - Hiding routine diagnostics adds one disclosure step. Failed or incomplete outcomes remain visible. This is report polish. It does not duplicate planned core work in `ROADMAP.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser automation. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(evals): support explicit Grok qualification workflows (#13878)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their provider connections. > - Product E2E checks real tasks through the browser, server, and runner. > - Grok qualification needs separate API-key and subscription evidence. > - Product subscription tests and direct Grok protocol evals need explicit credential delivery. > - This change supplies each credential only to its selected profile and prepares the pinned binary. > - Maintainer authorization and protected-environment gates remain required. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13845, #13847, #13850, #13882. The Grok feature branch has a manual subscription qualification profile. The trusted master workflow must admit its selected credential and prepare the same verified binary and artifact verifier as the API profile. Direct protocol evals also need the selected xAI key and pinned Grok binary. These prerequisites do not register or schedule the new profiles on master. ## What Changed - Deliver `GROK_AUTH_JSON` from the protected paid environment only when the selected profile requests that credential. - Install the checksum-verified Grok binary for the local subscription profile. - Prepare the pinned artifact verifier for the manual subscription suite. - Extend workflow security assertions to cover the new credential and profile. - Add the ACPX Grok credential mapping to the trusted-master catalog, then deliver only the selected `XAI_API_KEY` to direct protocol cells and install the target’s checksum-verified Grok binary before packaging. - Allow a direct-protocol concurrency override from two cases up to the existing configured ceiling; it can only lower concurrency. - Document the Grok protocol workflow and its API-only credential boundary. - Render missing LLM usage and cost as Unavailable, and label partial observations with coverage. Preserve raw records, grades, and actual zero costs. - Preserve measured campaign source metadata during report regeneration instead of inheriting the renderer checkout or CI event; skip empty legacy source records when recovering older provenance. ## Verification - Latest commit `05d05801477104c8155977bbbe3e119a5241f960`: all 54 reported checks successful, two intentional skips, Greptile 5/5, and zero unresolved review threads. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35890978288). - After merging current master, all 17 workflow security/image tests and 23 catalog/workflow policy tests passed. The trusted catalog also generated all 39 pinned Grok cells with `XAI_API_KEY` and one case per shard. The new policy tests execute the concurrency guard against valid, out-of-range, and malformed values. - The Grok branch separately passed 450 Product harness unit tests, including private company credential staging, cleanup, and token-fragment redaction. - The fresh-login native subscription smoke passed three repetitions of tool execution, session resume, restrictive permissions, and cleanup. These are setup evidence; full subscription Product qualification remains pending. - All 72 focused report/billing/history/catalog tests and the Product harness typecheck passed for the report-display change. The initial sandbox run could not open the tsx IPC socket; the permitted rerun passed. A zero-provider-call replay of the actual 16-cell Grok campaign preserved all result records, grades, timing, and source provenance while correcting missing usage labels. - Review the thirteen-file diff. Provider credentials still enter only the selected paid-test step; default-branch, numeric-actor, and environment restrictions are unchanged. ## Risks This admits a refreshable subscription credential to explicitly selected trusted tests. Store it only in `runner-e2e-paid`, use a test login, and remove it after qualification. Unselected profiles receive an empty value. Pull requests cannot trigger the paid workflow. This PR changes no fleet admission or actor allowlist. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool use and code execution. Add first-task onboarding skill and Runner E2E coverage (#13517)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The first task helps a new user define and approve useful work. > - That workflow needs reusable instructions and tests against the production experience. > - Native Codex and Claude must load the assigned skill, including after resume. > - Maintainers need recorded conversations and precise failed checks to judge regressions. > - This pull request adds the first-task skill and a suite in the shared Runner E2E harness. > - It keeps behavior results separate from informational quality scores and incomplete recordings. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The first onboarding task and the Runner E2E report used to review it. **Current behavior** Onboarding embeds its policy in a hidden brief. Native Codex drops the skill-instructions setting at the Rust boundary. The shared E2E harness has no onboarding suite or full conversation view. **Proposed behavior** Assign and invoke `/first-task` for the onboarding task. Send selected Codex skills as structured protocol inputs. Run twelve scenarios across legacy Codex, legacy Claude, native Codex, and native ACPX Claude. Include all 48 cells in full campaigns. Show recorded chat, question and approval cards, exact checks, instructions, and billing in the shared dashboard. **Reason and benefit** Measure the real onboarding experience before changing prompts. Distinguish infrastructure failures, behavior failures, and unexercised journey steps. **Breaking changes** No database migration or production API change. First-task instructions now live in an assigned skill. The user-edited persona is preserved; the skill includes the maintainer-approved proposal-mode mapping and saved-plan requirement. Related: #11043 is earlier onboarding work. #13422 already fixes native Claude model pinning, context delivery, and read permissions on master; this branch includes those fixes through its base. The new Claude recovery test supplements them. ## What Changed - Extract and assign the first-task skill while retaining the production greeting and opening question. - Carry the Codex skill-instructions flag through thread start and resume. Resolve explicit task skill references only against assigned skills and send native skill inputs. - Invoke an unambiguously selected assigned skill through Claude ACPX’s native slash-command parser on initial and resumed turns, retaining the entire task/wake envelope as its argument. Do not carry that invocation into ordinary tasks. - Restore the saved single-task proposal modes: confirmation card, or saved plan with revision-targeted checkbox approval. Explicit plan requests also require a saved plan. - Add first-response and complete-journey cases with fixed user facts, acceptance checkpoints, durable outcome checks, and accounting for child runs. - Fail the eval when choice questions have fewer than two real options. Recognize planning documents without treating them as completed work. - Add optional, bounded quality judging as explicit post-processing. - Render full conversations and static interaction cards in the shared report. Conversations start folded. Show original and regraded results and incomplete journeys distinctly. - Keep credential-persistence scanning outside the first-task behavioral suite; retain public evidence redaction. - Refresh generated capability references after the API-reference edits. - Correct shared native question guidance and tool schemas: choices need at least two meaningful options; open-ended questions use canonical text fields with the required compatibility payload. Verify both formats through real tool-authority persistence. - Disable announcements automatically for every isolated Runner E2E process and label the gallery environment/provider/target explicitly. - Remove CI races in the GitHub connection browser test and native session recovery test by waiting for the actual async work before asserting its results. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/onboarding-first-task-assets.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-onboarding-first-task-routes.test.ts`: 19 passed. - `pnpm --dir packages/paperclip-runner exec vitest run src/drivers/acpx/runtime-host.test.ts src/drivers/acpx/native-skill-prompt.test.ts src/cli/acpx-runtime-sidecar.test.ts`: 70 passed. Native command forwarding and the 1 MiB input boundary both failed before their fixes and passed afterward. Coverage includes changed skills on reopen, approval context, and an ordinary subsequent task. - Runner E2E unit suite: 306 passed. Harness typecheck passed. The 64 first-task fixture and grader tests also pass. - Full repository typecheck and build passed locally. Server typecheck and Runner build passed again after the native-command change. - Full GitHub Actions CI passed on `23e56447b`: all server/workspace/browser shards, Runner verification, typecheck/release registry, build, canary, policy, and Docker checks. Greptile reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. The earlier broad local run had database startup/timing failures that passed isolated retries; the complete remote suite is green. - Merge verification against current master: 312 harness tests and 13 native recovery tests passed. Regenerated semantic contracts and fixture hashes pass their consistency check. Full local typecheck and build also passed on the stacked queue branch. After merging the latest master and preserving the GitHub setup timing regression in the split browser suite, both focused GitHub browser tests passed. Three CI timing/startup flakes passed local verification and one remote retry; all latest-head checks are green. - Real pinned Claude SDK and Claude ACP JSON-RPC probes against a local mock API confirmed that `/skill-name` expands the assigned skill body before the model request and retains the task arguments. A prose mention does not. The probes made no paid model calls. The ACP probe used the current first-task skill body and retained the wake arguments. - [Full 48-case campaign and report](https://pages.paperclip.ing/runner-e2e-first-task-35053063880/): 44 passed after three interrupted Codex cases completed in targeted reruns. Original results, regrades, and all 51 executions remain in the report provenance. - [Claude campaign after the shared-question fix](https://pages.paperclip.ing/runner-e2e-first-task-claude-35099525201/): 10/12 passed with zero single-option failures. All 12 recorded the current assigned skill and corrected guidance. The failures exposed skipped skill invocation and a missing saved plan. This PR adds native command invocation and explicit saved-plan instructions; the subsequent report below still shows behavior failures. - [Fresh 12-case Claude report](https://pages.paperclip.ing/runner-e2e-first-task-claude-35102737804/) at `78452129e`: 10/12 pass after correcting two false proposal-matcher failures. The recordings said “Here is the task I will create and run/complete” in approval cards; the old matcher missed that word order. Regression tests failed before the fix and pass after it. Original results and offline regrade provenance remain linked. No agent rerun was needed. Zero single-option-question failures; two behavior failures remain: direct work before acceptance on a plain first message, and an explicit plan request without a saved plan. Neither check was relaxed. The follow-up `82087ac7e` fixes command-prefix size accounting; `94aefb1f3` fixes only that proposal matcher. - Report browser checks confirm folded conversations, rendered cards, explicit Local/Daytona labels, and no page errors. The published-object audit scanned 1,306 text files across 2,154 objects with no credential-format findings or prohibited files. Image pixels and unknown token formats are outside that scan. ## Risks - Model behavior is nondeterministic. One campaign is evidence, not a guarantee. The two remaining Claude behavior failures are visible in the report and require further product work; this PR does not claim all onboarding scenarios pass. - The suite checks persisted Paperclip effects. It cannot prove the absence of arbitrary external effects. - Historical recordings can miss later journey steps. These remain incomplete, never passes. - Native profiles switch runtime after the production onboarding wizard because it does not yet expose a native option. - Quality scores are informational and cannot override behavioral failures. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The exact deployed model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): restore multi-turn remote sessions (#12840)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The runner executes agent turns on local and remote providers. > - A remote per-turn session must save its state before Paperclip releases its sandbox. > - The session runtime returned after 100 milliseconds while the remote checkpoint still ran. > - The next turn also checked the local state path instead of the verified remote backup. > - This pull request waits for the bounded remote close and accepts only a verified suspended backup. > - The benefit is reliable multi-turn execution without weaker identity checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A successful remote agent turn released its sandbox before the runner saved the verified continuation backup. The next turn failed with `runner_state_identity_mismatch`. **Expected behavior** Paperclip must finish the bounded remote checkpoint before it releases the sandbox. A later turn must validate and restore the digest-matched suspended backup. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a native ACPX Claude Plan test in a non-reusable Daytona sandbox. 2. Reject the first plan to start a second turn. 3. Observe that the second turn fails before provider execution. **Paperclip version or commit** The failure reproduced at `13775a90b078ff64872f50961ea1b83d575e7bc6`. **Deployment mode** GitHub Actions with a Daytona sandbox. ## What Changed - Wait for the internally bounded remote runner close and checkpoint before the host returns. - Preserve the existing short cleanup bound for other providers. - Validate remote continuation lifecycle from a complete digest-verified backup when local runner state is absent. - Keep corrupt, non-suspended, mismatched, and unverified state fail-closed. - Make native Plan completion and accepted-Plan wake prompts deterministic. ## Verification - A prior 45-cell local campaign passed 44 cells. The only failure was the OpenCode Plan prompt variance fixed here. - A focused OpenCode local Plan rerun passed. - ACPX Claude Daytona message and question cells passed. - Focused regressions cover delayed checkpoint close and verified remote backup lifecycle. - GitHub Build and the focused ACPX Claude Daytona Plan cell will validate this exact head. ## Risks Remote runnerd sessions now wait for their internally bounded close/checkpoint path before returning; generic provider cleanup retains the existing 100 millisecond bound. Durable run success still cannot be reversed. The environment release guard still blocks sandbox destruction when no verified backup stamp exists. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.6, extended reasoning, with code execution and GitHub Actions inspection. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal task id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

test(runner): add full-stack acceptance and eval gates (#12700)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The runner subsystem executes agent work across local and managed provider backends. > - The lower pull requests restore the task runtime, provider backends, and managed-provider control plane. > - The restored system needs repeatable full-stack checks before it can ship safely. > - Paid live checks also need clear access, cost, and secret controls. > - This pull request adds acceptance, live evaluation, chaos, and release gates for the restored runner stack. > - The benefit is measurable runner parity with safer release decisions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change covers runner tests, release workflows, server contracts, and evaluation tools. **Problem or motivation** The runner stack did not have one complete acceptance surface for native Codex, ACPX, Claude Managed, and AWS AgentCore. Release checks could miss provider drift, task-view regressions, cost-policy errors, and destructive cleanup errors. **Proposed solution** Add a 57-cell full-stack catalog, a Daytona image, and opt-in paid workflows. Add live evaluation, chaos, cost-limit, redaction, and release contract checks. Add AWS AgentCore infrastructure and guarded provisioning tools. Keep the native runner experimental flag off by default. **Alternatives considered** We considered manual smoke tests only. They do not give repeatable evidence and they do not protect release branches. We also considered one large pull request. The stacked pull requests keep each review below the Greptile file limit. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the shipped Cloud / Sandbox agents milestone and the shipped Agent evals & feedback milestone in `ROADMAP.md`. Related stack: - #12699 adds managed provider backends and lifecycle support. - #12691 adds qualified OpenCode and ACPX provider backends. - #12685 restores task runtime rendering and steering. ## What Changed - Add the runner full-stack harness with 57 catalog cells and 60 unit tests. - Add a Daytona runner image with digest-pinned base images and base-aware image-content checks. - Add guarded live evaluation and chaos workflows with a fixed 40-execution matrix; live and full-stack paid schedules now run only on Sundays or by manual dispatch. - Add in-flight reported-usage cost stops, post-turn cost caps, exact-threshold failure classification, secret redaction, retry classification, and actor authorization. - Reattach stream and hard-budget listeners before restart-recovery continuations so restored paid sessions cannot bypass in-flight interruption. - Preserve OpenCode usage and cost across tool-loop messages and turns while exposing an explicit current-run delta to durable accounting. - Keep PNG/WebM evidence in access-controlled artifacts only, reject SVG, and publish only pruned inert structured per-attempt evidence. - Add AWS AgentCore infrastructure, provisioning checks, and smoke tools; reject unsafe model identifiers, require exact stack ownership markers, and make failed-stack replacement explicit. - Add evaluation-session contracts and capability reports. - Add release workflow checks for immutable action pins, frozen dependency installs, exact weekly cron shape, paid-run guards, provider-secret isolation, and chaos test paths. - Reauthorize the original and triggering numeric actor IDs as the first step of every provider-secret job, including partial reruns, before checkout or provider access. - Give each full-stack matrix cell only its matching provider credential, expose Daytona only to Daytona cells, and disable shared dependency caches anywhere paid credentials or OIDC write access are present. - Protect the legacy manual E2E workflow with the same default-branch, allowlist, environment, and per-job authorization boundary. - Rotate live-eval candidates by week and retain 120 days of compatible history so the seven-week trend window remains viable. - Restore the root runner-acceptance commands and reconcile reported snapshots, raw receipts, and terminal usage without double counting or losing late usage. - Mark ACPX token deltas exact only when every budget field is present, keep cumulative cost/request authority separate, reject non-USD cost labeling, and include thought tokens in output-token budgets. - Keep `enableNativeRunner` off by default. The acceptance harness enables it only in its isolated test instance. ## Verification Passed locally: - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner typecheck` - `pnpm test:runner-acceptance:typecheck` - `pnpm test:runner-acceptance` (19 tests) - focused OpenCode proxy, driver, runnerd transport, live-session, and turn-stream tests (106 tests) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner exec vitest run src/live/clean-room-server.test.ts` (22 tests) - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:typecheck` - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit` (62 tests) - `node --test scripts/__tests__/release-verify-workflow.test.mjs` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner test:runner-workflow-evals` (22 tests) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `node --test packages/paperclip-runner/scripts/aws-agentcore-provisioning.test.mjs` (6 tests) - `git diff --check` - `cargo test --manifest-path packages/paperclip-runner/runner/Cargo.toml -p paperclip-runner-core --lib --locked` (161 tests) - focused ACPX provider-event tests (10 tests) - The rebased PR changes 92 files. `pnpm-lock.yaml` is unchanged. I did not run paid live provider jobs or provision AWS resources. Those checks need credentials and can create cost. ## Risks The paid workflows can create provider cost. They require an allowlisted original and triggering actor, the protected `runner-e2e-paid` environment, explicit opt-in variables, and cost limits. The four provider credentials exist only in that master-only environment, which requires allowlisted reviewer approval and disables administrator bypass; repository and organization Actions scopes contain no copies. Provider usage arrives after a billable request, so the live guard cannot prevent one request from crossing a threshold. It interrupts immediately on the first reported threshold hit and permits no continuation. Visual evidence can contain secrets rendered as pixels. PNG/WebM remain only in access-controlled workflow artifacts; SVG and per-attempt XML are excluded, and S3/Pages receive a pruned structured dashboard. The AWS scripts can create cloud resources. They use explicit commands, least-privilege roles, KMS encryption, saved nonsecret metadata, and explicit teardown. This pull request does not enable the experimental native runner for existing instances. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR.
