fix(server): retain live evidence beyond blocker graph admission
Keep bounded returned child facts independent of graph node and edge admission, and use the existing live-work predicate for running status, active runs and pending waits. Cover the opposite query ordering with 1,999 explicit blockers, fresh retention checks, no archive/outbox and unchanged SQL/resource bounds. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): bound blocker facts and preserve origin authority
Resolve liveness/stranded references through trusted company issue rows, including valid none sentinels. Bound shared blocker nodes, edges and query results; return private deferred-root completeness so retention immediately performs finite exact source checks. Preserve already-observed live work, completed-root classification and true deadlines. Cover historical producer metadata, moved recovery tasks, many-heavy graph limits, quiet rechecks and faithful transaction fixtures. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): bound graph queries and scope issue retention work
Chunk graph recovery, agent and workspace inputs; prove a70000-node PostgreSQL graph stays below parameter limits. Route ordinary issue writes through identity-scoped dependency invalidation for old/new parents, blocker ancestors, run links and liveness origins. Correlate all issue-related attention sources, preserve unrelated deadlines, and canonicalize notification keys. Exercise actual held/burst producers, visibility, relation and incident transitions. fix(server): isolate blocker traversal budgets per root
Share queried graph facts across roots while retaining independent node/depth limits, expanded reachability and truncation for classification. Unrelated limited graphs must not change terminal subjects or delay archive deadlines. Prove depth/node overflow and overlapping-root liveness red/green, preserve the100-root SQL bound, and qualify existing owner assertions on isolated PostgreSQL. feat(server): persist run logs and provider traces in S3 (#18327)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators use run logs and restricted provider traces to inspect agent work. > - Local log and trace files depend on the web server's persistent volume. > - That dependency prevents overlapping volume-backed Railway deployments. > - This PR reuses the instance S3 store for batched log and trace payloads with conditional publication. > - Existing Postgres rows retain their contracts; native export recovery reuses events already committed before Runner acknowledgement. > - S3-configured servers automatically copy and verify retained history before a later deployment cutover. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Server run logs, restricted provider traces, storage providers, and migration tooling. **Problem or motivation** Replacing the web server and its disk must preserve committed log output and retained traces. The current S3 mirror can repeatedly upload a growing file. Moving those payloads into Postgres would add database writes, WAL, replication, and backup work. **Proposed solution** Reuse the existing instance storage configuration, S3-compatible provider and credential chain. Store new run logs under run-logs/ and opted-in raw traces under provider-traces/, below the existing prefix. Cloud keeps its existing bucket and bucket-scoped credentials per stack. Add no new configuration switches. Store immutable payload segments and bounded binary range indexes directly in S3. Publish each batch with an ETag-conditional head. Keep existing database ownership and lifecycle records. Recover canonical native exports from their existing validated control event source, checkpointing export progress in S3. Add no new payload writes to Postgres. Preserve local defaults and migrate settled history with verified byte counts and digests. **Alternatives considered** Postgres payload chunks add control-plane load. Repeated whole-file mirrors amplify transfer work. The first index prototype left superseded index nodes; the final binary index keeps all normally published nodes reachable. **Roadmap alignment** This is a storage prerequisite for replacing the main web/API server. It does not enable deployment overlap, detach a volume, or change native Runner protocol acknowledgements. The maintainer approved this implementation scope. ROADMAP.md has no duplicate implementation item. Related PR: #16770 improves the existing in-flight mirror. This PR preserves that legacy backend and uses the existing instance S3 profile for new journals. ## What Changed - Automatically select S3 segments for new logs and opted-in traces when instance file storage uses S3. Reuse bucket, endpoint, region, prefix, path style and credentials. Remove separate backend switches. Keep local-disk instances local. - Share the existing storage configuration resolver with product files. Preserve config-file settings, environment precedence and the existing root prefix. Keep pre-existing run-log mirror settings for legacy history. - Add bounded buffering, conditional ownership fencing, immutable range reads, stable byte offsets, and completion hashing. - Dispatch all existing log consumers through the recorded backend. Coalesce output progress writes and publish live log messages after storage receipts. - Recover interrupted canonical native exports from their existing durable source. Exclude separate credential, cleanup, and reprojection records. Replay missing callback ranges and deduplicate late delivery. Repair settled archives after controller lease expiry. Bound shared repair work and stop it when all readers cancel. Serve the published prefix when best-effort repair fails. - Add encrypted optional trace channels, replacement reads, durable deletion tombstones, and deadline-driven local/external expiry cleanup independently of heartbeat scheduling. Stream historical source and remote verification. Propagate worker cancellation through trace open, conditional-write probing, upload, restore and reads. Fence deletion even before the first object head exists; abort and drain owned captures. - Retry transient storage errors, distinguish 409 from failed preconditions, and backpressure bounded log admission. Track interrupted trace imports explicitly so ordinary local deletion stays independent of S3. - Automatically migrate retained history through the existing delivery coordinator. Process one log and one trace per batch. Retry unresolved history with backoff and stop scans after completion. Keep the inventory/import command as optional diagnosis and repair. Verify source and remote bytes before switching references. Verify finalized native size and digest before setting its export cursor. Require ordered source coverage when completeness metadata is missing. Preserve original trace expiry. Block active, missing, corrupt, and unproven sources. - Preserve identity and run-secret redaction in live and recovered native logs. Register runtime log redaction secrets once through the existing encrypted registry. Keep agent private keys in their existing owner. - Add storage, migration, retention, UTF-8, and route-privacy coverage, plus operating documentation and qualification tooling. - Add no schema, payload table, per-record SQL, production dependency, or lockfile change. ## Verification - Final fixes at `b3a44c898e` passed all 116 selected startup, retention, attribution and cancellation controls. The disabled-scheduler cleanup and concurrent-repair defects reproduced red before the fixes. A timed-out repair still prevents later storage reads. - The merged source passed 124 storage and real-Postgres Cloud configuration tests. These include automatic history migration, existing environment/file vault keys, source-directory removal, five real-SDK stalled-request cancellation cases, shared capability-probe cancellation and multi-chunk trace ordering. Saved Cloud S3 settings work after the legacy config file is gone. - Workspace typecheck and full build passed at the merged parent `19f702d780`. Server typecheck and build passed again at `b3a44c898e`. - Actual app acceptance: finish a process-agent run through the normal API, stage its retained local-file input, then restart. Automatic migration reports one migrated item and zero blockers. Remove the original web home and restart at `b3a44c898e` with an empty home, the existing S3 profile and the existing vault key file. The normal log API preserves all five producer lines and exactly 788 bytes, with SHA-256 `74d9ae469da28bfe89b9b50a0e132aec24fe9e6d686496ed5e4ffa6167151036`. No log-specific storage settings are present. - Actual expiry acceptance: with heartbeat scheduling disabled, a trace remains unexpired after startup and later reaches its fixture deadline. The worker marks the row deleted and tombstones both S3 channel heads. The retained run log stays byte-identical. The process fixture emits no provider protocol frames, so nonempty encrypted payloads are qualified separately through the real SDK round trips. - Isolation tests use identical run identities in two stack buckets. Cleanup in one existing prefix leaves another prefix, another company and product files intact. Read-only Cloud source inspection confirms a bucket and bucket-scoped credentials per stack. Four existing Cloud storage environment-contract tests passed. No Cloud provisioning changed and no new live vendor permission probe was performed. - Earlier qualification passed 1,014 affected storage/native tests and 27 privacy-route tests with isolated Docker Postgres. An abrupt process test commits 1,000 records, receives receipts, dies by SIGKILL and loses its directory; another process reads every byte and continues. The real Rust Runner experiment acknowledges 32 records while the export cursor is zero, then continues the same Runner PID after controller loss. All 64 records export once with exactly 64 existing control rows. Repeated snapshot/Stop commands completed in 162/81 ms. - Emulator workload: 1,000 burst records used two batch PUTs. Eight steady streams produced 240 records with 104 conditional PUTs and 72 GETs over 6.9 seconds. These are synthetic operation counts, not fleet sizing or provider prices. - Failure evidence is retained. Compact native events over 64 KiB, missing file-key support, disabled-scheduler retention and repair failure handling all reproduced before their fixes. Fixture repairs addressed cold module setup, localhost/IPC permissions, the S3 bucket-name limit and a mode-0700 crash-test directory. Full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after host PostgreSQL semaphore exhaustion; affected suites used isolated Docker databases instead. Native package library symlinks were restored with the package's standard hydration helper. - The `19f702d780` browser session-recovery case timed out while saving a task title. All eight browser shards passed on `b3a44c898e`, including that case, with no UI behavior or assertion change. Fresh-head CI passed at `b3a44c898e`: 55 successful checks, three skipped checks and one neutral check. The branch is conflict-free. - Map and module-boundary checks passed. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. Reproduce the opt-in storage suites with `PAPERCLIP_LOG_TEST_S3_ENDPOINT` and a dedicated `PAPERCLIP_RUN_EVIDENCE_MIGRATION_DATABASE_URL` ending in `_test`. See `doc/run-evidence-storage.md` for operating limits, automatic migration, optional diagnostics and rollout qualification. ## Risks - Keep the existing per-stack bucket, prefix and vault key stable across replacements. Relocating that storage is a separate whole-instance operation. - This release automatically changes new log storage for existing S3-configured instances. Local-disk instances remain local. Canonical native source replay is qualified with a deterministic real Runner; actual remote execution and production-provider qualification remain rollout gates. Generic server-only diagnostics and optional raw trace tails without a surviving source can be incomplete after a crash. This does not establish full zero-downtime deployment. - Before deploying this release, qualify the actual S3 provider. It must enforce conditional writes and pass read, version, deletion, workload, and latency qualification. A capability probe rejects providers which ignore preconditions. Moto is emulator evidence only. - Dirty output is bounded and unconfirmed until S3 publication. Storage failure leaves persistence incomplete while task results and usage can settle. - Trace expiry is not yet represented by Cloud's external wake contract. Outstanding trace deadlines conservatively block sleep. - Automatic history copying requires the original source volume. Keep it until all retained resources pass verified import and clean-filesystem reads. Stop old binaries from creating new local-file runs. Missing or corrupt history remains blocked and visible in server logs. Rollback requires a compatible reader against the same external state. Ordinary object deletion does not erase retained historical object versions or backups. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser verification. perf(chat): load recent messages and page history on scroll (#18358)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage work done by agents. > - A standing agent chat can hold months of conversation. > - The chat route forced full-history mode, bypassing compact task loading. > - A cold visit fetched lifetime run summaries and hydrated historical transcripts. > - This PR starts with 20 recent messages and loads earlier pages on upward scroll. > - It preserves the reader's position, current questions, and draft while history grows. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Standing agent chats forced full-history loading. A long conversation fetched full activity and run history before it became readable. Earlier comments also used an explicit load control. **Expected behavior** Open a small recent conversation quickly. Load older messages when the reader scrolls upward. Show an inline loading state. Keep the visible message and composer mounted through paging, live updates, and Back navigation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a standing agent chat with hundreds of messages and completed runs. 2. Use a fresh browser query cache. 3. Observe full activity and run reads plus transcript requests for historical runs. 4. Compare the recent window and upward paging after this change. Related work: #18312 and #18323 restored compact task and collection loading. #14848 added reopening of visited agent chats. A GitHub search found no open PR for this chat-history optimization. ## What Changed - Return 20 contiguous recent comments for standing chats, with a stable oldest cursor. Keep the existing compact task exchange contract. Use the existing company/issue/time index for cursor reads. - Keep chats compact even if their task view previously expanded history. Retain observed messages through live catch-up and cache-backed return visits. - Keep fetched history pages, acknowledged sends, and the observed recent cursor separate. Reconcile live replies without losing history after a send or deleted cursor. - Hydrate metadata only for newly revealed message/run IDs; preserve prior batches while paging. Slow-send recovery refreshes the recent window. Receipts failures have an independent retry. - Hydrate run summaries only for loaded messages and the latest turn. Validate batches of at most 100 run IDs and keep the existing issue/company access rules. - Reuse hydrated terminal native streams when only history membership changes. Preserve retry, resume, mode changes, reconnect recovery, and interrupted recovery reads. - Load older messages, decision receipts, and task handoffs through upward scrolling. Support wheel, touch, and keyboard input. Keep pending questions visible. - Reserve a status slot while loading. Preserve a logical message anchor and the mounted composer. Pause failed page reads until an inline Retry. - Add database, route, controller, and scroll regressions, plus an opt-in production-build browser rig for long chats on desktop and mobile. Update design and feature/access documentation. ## Verification - The real PostgreSQL cold-open suite passes all 12 tests, including contiguous pages with equal timestamps, complete history, company denial, and scoped run IDs. - Activity route and OpenAPI suites pass 53 tests. The route run allowed local cold-import overhead; CI retains the repository's normal timeouts. - Three new paging regressions fail against the unchanged source. The candidate's focused paging/window suite passes 26 tests. Broader UI verification is recorded below when complete. - Desktop and mobile browser acceptance covers recent-only startup, per-frame reveal geometry, delayed and failed older pages, stable reading anchors and drafts, Back, older comment links, and one persisted live reply. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed locally. The final UI source also passes its typecheck and production build. - Affected UI suites pass: 212 controller/history/paging tests, 352 thread/scroller tests, 26 native-stream tests, plus metadata batching and live-cache hydration coverage. The issue mutation/access route suite passes 179 tests. - All 22 final desktop/mobile browser journeys pass, including delayed image growth. The isolated second-page request proof also passes six repeated desktop/mobile runs. A separate 6,000-message, 3,000-run fixture passes cold-open and delayed-paging checks on both screen sizes, still opening 20 messages and loading one 50-message page. - Final matched production timings use baseline `aa58fa1073` (`index-BaRiMbxd.js`) and candidate UI source `f9a26b9783` (`index-DPWTbsFF.js`, identical application source at final head `bf71ffd5af`). Chromium 151.0.7922.34, 1440×900, 4× CPU throttle, no added network latency, browser HTTP cache disabled, fresh application cache for each cold visit. Both variants block service workers and use the same warm local API server and immutable 600-message/300-run fixture. Only document HTML is intercepted for both variants; API requests are real. The common API revision is `109981f8c1`; subsequent commits change only UI and tests. | Usable conversation | Baseline median (range) | Candidate median (range) | | --- | --- | --- | | Cold direct URL | 6.57 s (5.69–7.45) | 3.07 s (2.50–3.28) | | Warm in-app return | 3.76 s (3.54–4.76) | 0.67 s (0.58–1.46) | | Back return | 2.53 s (2.12–4.20) | 0.51 s (0.47–1.18) | Five pairs alternate order. Every paired difference favors the candidate for all three journeys. Readiness requires a revealed, fully visible latest reply above the composer and an editable composer. Return timing starts after the Tasks route renders. Cold API requests fall from 953–954 to 71; API wire bytes fall from 517–559 KB to about 49 KB. Separate CPU profiles and request waterfalls confirm the removal of lifetime event hydration and are excluded from the five timing pairs. Both variants have the same expected missing optional plan document (404) and no browser exceptions. Control recent-window API reads have medians of 37 ms / 32 ms, with shared-host outliers up to 376 ms. The 6,000-message recent-window SQL uses `issue_comments_company_issue_created_at_idx` (22 index rows read for a 21-row probe). Geometry assertions retain a 2-pixel tolerance for the reading anchor and first-reveal layout. These are local synthetic measurements, not deployed staging latency. Earlier timing probes are excluded because they did not isolate service workers or composer clearance. Final head `bf71ffd5afb5684ba9105a3127f617e7adf5139c` has 55 successful checks, three optional skips and one neutral result, with no failures or pending checks. Greptile is 5/5 with no open review findings. ### Failure record Early local attempts exposed an unconditional scroller wrapper that changed the old task layout, and automatic retries on chat page failures. Both were corrected. The original task scroller structure stays in place. Metadata request assertions wait for initial connection recovery to settle, then verify only the new page’s reads; retry/resume/reconnect revalidation remains intentional. The initial review caught a send-before-scroll cache defect; its controller regression failed before the fix. Later rapid-paging checks caught scroll readiness being gated by metadata after the first reveal; readiness now stays enabled once revealed. Live replies use the separate acknowledged-message cache, then catch up from the server cursor. Visual review exposed a pagination wrapper bypassing existing composer clearance. The body is again a direct scroller child; cold-open browser checks require the full latest reply above the composer. A resize-observer regression failed before the fix and now passes. Controlled delayed inline images prove both pinned following and a stable reading anchor on desktop/mobile. The first performance fixture lacked valid native event envelopes and caused missing-log fallbacks. It is excluded from latency claims. The final fixture uses saved native assistant events and conversation session generations. The live test uses a temporary fixture-agent key, attributes the reply to an existing synthetic run, and revokes the key. It starts no model or agent process. Local database attempts failed during a Docker shutdown. The retained disposable database was restored and its suite passed. Early fixture errors included a missing conversation identity field and session generation. Mobile test setup also selected an offscreen sidebar link and reused queued human input. Optional announcements could intercept input; the fixture now dismisses them before the journeys. The scroll observer now waits for the delivered wheel event and settled animation frames, including when the viewport is already at the top. A concurrently running live test briefly changed another probe’s row count; the final acceptance and timing runs were sequential on separate fixtures. The final rig uses the visible mobile navigation and a saved agent reply. Anchor observation waits for the user's scroll to settle before measuring the effect of live updates. The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt hit repeated embedded PostgreSQL initialization failures and failures in untouched native-session executor suites; it was stopped after the repeated environment failures. The targeted real-PostgreSQL suite passed, and final-head CI is required before handoff. The first CI run also caught an exact mock expectation missing the added company scope; the expectation is updated and its 179-test suite passes. The final-head first CI attempt also stalled an assigned child task in the existing plan-approval scenario, then hit a heartbeat-run row lock timeout during fixture cleanup. The failed shard and aggregate check passed on an unchanged rerun of the same commit. Scenario assertions and timeouts were unchanged. The failure and rerun are retained in [CI run 41116120430](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41116120430). ## Risks - Historical transcript diagnostics no longer load on a cold chat open. Saved messages and conversation events remain available; diagnostic run views keep their full records. - Cursor paging must not omit comments with equal timestamps. Database tests cover timestamp/UUID ordering and the complete set. - Prepended or late content can move the reader. Browser checks cover retained row identity, viewport offsets, mounted drafts, and Back. Previously loaded pages stay in the query cache for its existing lifetime. - Local synthetic evidence does not establish deployed staging latency. This PR does not merge or deploy the change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact backend deployment ID and context window were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (affected checks; limits are recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(onboarding): keep approved child task handoffs runnable (#18160)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work through tasks, agent runs, dependencies, and human decisions. > - The first-task workflow asks for approval before it creates an execution task. > - File-producing work must run on a child task before onboarding can finish. > - A child blocked by its onboarding source cannot start while the source waits for that child. > - This change rejects that dependency during task creation and later edits, and gives the agent a correction. > - The shipped recipe shows the dependency direction and requires the actual approved inputs in the child instructions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** After human approval, an onboarding run could create a child with the onboarding source in `blockedByTaskIds`. Creation saved a blocked child with no wake. The parent could then wait for that child. A handoff could also refer to input from the parent conversation without including the input in the child description. **Expected behavior** The approved child can execute before its waiting parent. Invalid first-task dependency input fails before task creation and leaves the same command key available for a corrected call. The child instructions include the required approved input and constraints. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Accept a proposal on a server-created first task. 2. Call native `create_task` with `status: "todo"` and the onboarding source in `blockedByTaskIds`. 3. Observe a blocked child with no scheduled wake. Block the parent on that child to expose the stalled handoff. **Paperclip version or commit** The regression reproduces on `f8484a9f8d1f68e9534fee4f29e00e716dc680f4`. The repair is based on current master. **Deployment mode** Core native and REST task creation. The same server boundary serves self-hosted and hosted instances. Related: #18080 fixed remote delivery of the selected first-task skill. This change handles the later child handoff boundary. ## What Changed - Reject a task blocked by its authenticated first-task source during creation and later dependency edits. Later agent edits also check the locked target's server-owned onboarding parent, protecting a child running under its own execution. Compare UUID identity in PostgreSQL so alternate supported UUID spellings cannot bypass the check. The error explains the correction. - Add a native child/dependency recipe with self-contained approved input guidance. Clarify the general `create_task` input descriptions and update their generated contracts. - Cover native and REST rejection, corrected retry, preserved valid dependencies and replay, and an executable recipe with exact input bytes read from the child's own context. Thread the authenticated run through native dependency edits. Keep blocker corrections independent of a new proposal decision. - Update execution semantics and the existing onboarding map entries. ## Verification - Red on `f8484a9f`: the new native regression received a created blocked child instead of the expected rejection. - Review regressions were red on the original PR head: uppercase, unhyphenated and braced source UUIDs created blocked children; a later child PATCH returned 200 and saved the reversed blocker. - Review follow-up reproduced both native and REST child-own-run bypasses on `75fa75a6`: the native dependency call applied the reverse edge; the child's own PATCH returned 200. The regression uses the actual authenticated child execution and an already checked-out task. - All 95 tests across first-task admission, assets, and the full native tool-authority suite pass. The shipped recipe is validated against the native schemas and exercised through real task/dependency services with disposable PostgreSQL. Rejected PATCH tests preserve existing authorization and attempt-audit behavior and require no requested task-field, relation or wake change. Compatibility controls retain ordinary manual parent blockers, explicit board edits, other blockers and empty-list corrections. - Runner TypeScript build, generated contracts, capability inventory, protocol manifest, and map checks passed. - Server typecheck and all 95 focused tests pass with the child-run follow-up. All latest checks pass on `f24509ae`: 55 successful checks, one neutral review check, four skipped checks, and a successful legacy security status. Both automated reviews are 5/5 on this exact commit. - Prior-head CI failures are preserved: the Runner close fixture had unconfirmed provider drain while suspension succeeded; its exact fake-provider subprocess row passed locally with unchanged sources. The browser outage test lost its title textarea before any outage write. A bounded local control with a fully loaded composer passed every original outage assertion. The prior failure is an editor-readiness race; its exact asynchronous ordering remains unproved. No UI, browser-test, or timeout change is included. Neither failure is counted as a pass or silently discarded. - The first `f24509ae` CI attempt had two interrupted jobs: Typecheck and General server 9/12. Their logs record runner shutdown signals. The server job also records lost runner communication. The same-head failed-job rerun passed both jobs and the required aggregate. It reused the other successful results. No source, test, or timeout change was made for the rerun. The failed attempt remains preserved. Full repository checks pass in CI; the local full repository typecheck, test, and build commands were not repeated. - No external model or provider calls are used by these checks. Real-provider acceptance at this revision remains separate. ## Risks - The new rejection uses the authenticated run and the server-owned onboarding origin. Ordinary tasks, other blockers, empty-list corrections, and already committed creation replay retain their existing behavior. Blocker edits do not reapply the creation approval gate. - Nonempty blocker edits perform two indexed identity reads; the task lookup covers at most the run source and locked structural parent. Other patches and empty-list corrections add no source lookup. The update guard adds no parent row lock behind a child. Existing REST authorization checkout and attempt auditing remain in place before the domain mutation guard. - The explicit input recipe guides the model. Schema and persistence tests do not prove that a future model follows every instruction. - The tool guidance changes the generated semantic catalog identity. The maintained generated files are synchronized in this change. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex, with `ultra` reasoning effort, repository tools, code generation, and test execution. perf: schedule agent timers from durable deadlines (#17876)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/58/changes/paperclip/58 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent timers must start due work and preserve queue admission rules. > - The server woke their scan on every heartbeat interval, even with no eligible timer. > - Idle scans keep the database and instance active. > - This pull request derives the next deadline from saved policy and work records. > - Supported producer transactions notify the shared coordinator when eligibility changes. > - An idle timer worker stops scanning and resumes when real work or a deadline requires it. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17863. This is slice 63 of the recurring-work migration and follows the merged issue-monitor deadline PR. Related: #16632 changes timer issue scope; #16881 changes live-run eligibility. This PR preserves the current admission policy. Those policy changes are separate work. A future time-sensitive predicate must expose its next transition deadline. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent timer heartbeat scheduling in the server. **Current behavior** A recurring heartbeat wakes the timer scan even when companies are paused, timers are disabled, or no actionable task exists. **Proposed behavior** Register the earliest eligible interval or positive daily-cap reset deadline. Re-read on supported producer commits and startup. Leave no recurring database scan when no timer obligation remains. ## What Changed - Keep policy and deadline calculation in the heartbeat queue. Scheduling retains company, reporting-chain, worktree, and CAS gates. - Use the existing deadline coordinator. Remove only the timer wake from the server heartbeat loop. - Notify before existing transaction writes that change eligibility or deadlines. Cover configuration, lifecycle, company budgets, task ownership, recovery, conversations, accounting corrections, and completion. - Use the lifecycle status-change hook for saved hire rejection. Cover checkout's second adoption transaction after an initial failed CAS. - Preserve pending work through idle and maintenance drains. Check cancellation between due agents. Reconstruct on restart. - Document the supported writer model and producer inventory. Add no schema, table, or provider branch. ## Verification - **1,710 passing cases across 49 complete files**, no skips, on accepted source `32db86c1974dcbf794f01a8c5e42024e2ad071fc`. Coverage includes real timer policy/CAS/producers, monitor and shared deadline consumers, native reconstruction, Slack lifecycle, skills/settings/configuration, queue isolation and agent lifecycle. - Database build, production server typechecking/build, module boundaries, target migration order and Runner profile identity pass. Twenty-nine fresh PostgreSQL 17 schemas plus per-file fixtures applied all 412 journal entries through index 413; all selected source hashes and temporary fixture imports were restored exactly. - Four new deadline composition cases verify future/overdue timing, minimum scan spacing and disarming. A controlled mutation dropping only the inherited continuation option fails; the composed source passes with identical assertions and timers. - Normal parent reconciliation preserves task-drain expiry and both deadline contracts. The final monitor-parent publication changes only its audit, preserving every qualified runtime and selected test source. - Historical failures and review corrections remain in [the timer audit](doc/idle-agent-timers.md). No full local repository-suite, live provider, measured suspend/wake, external-alarm or fleet-savings claim. Final-head CI/security, exact-head Greptile 5/5 and actionable Ponytail findings remain separate merge gates. ## Risks - Process-local notifications cover supported service/API writers in one server process. Direct SQL and independent replicas need an explicit ingress contract. Startup reconstruction is not live cross-process notification. - Notifications can batch for up to the configured heartbeat interval. Known deadlines retain their scheduler path; failed reconciliation retains bounded retry. - Enabled timers without an actionable-work requirement remain real recurring obligations. Zero caps require policy changes; positive reached caps use UTC midnight. - The timer fixture substitutes adapter enqueue. Existing admission tests also pass, but this is not deployed provider or sleep qualification. - Cloud does not gain legacy agent timer alarms in this PR. Existing sleep-safety blockers remain. No database/host suspension or fleet savings claim is made. - Parent-stack CI and review must pass before merge. This PR does not authorize merging its dependencies. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6-based coding agent), using repository inspection, normal Git merges, composition proofs, a controlled red/green regression and complete PostgreSQL integration suites. No subagents were used in this reconciliation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule issue monitors without heartbeat polling (#17863)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/56/changes/paperclip/56 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Issue monitors save a future check on an existing issue. > - The heartbeat timer still scans monitors on every tick, even when none are due. > - The saved deadline and claim already provide durable scheduling state. > - This pull request gives monitors their own deadline worker and connects state changes to it. > - Idle monitor work stops querying. Existing admission and recovery rules remain in force. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17840, #16325. Related: #17171 addresses rearming a monitor after its admitted run fails. This PR changes when monitor inspection runs and follows the merged routine prerequisite. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Issue-monitor scheduling and idle database use. **Current behavior** Heartbeat ticks call the combined agent and monitor sweep. The existing next-deadline query only retains future monitors. Polling covers overdue leftovers, stale claims, and changes that make a saved monitor eligible. **Proposed behavior** Use the shared deadline worker. Retain overdue work with bounded retries. Wake after committed changes to monitor state, issue eligibility, company state, or native ownership. Keep legacy agent ticks separate for the next slice. ## What Changed - Add monitor-specific sweep and deadline methods to the existing scheduling owner. Keep the manual combined method. - Include overdue work and the strict five-minute claim fence. Exclude active native owners until their state changes. - Register monitors with the shared deadline worker. Heartbeat ticks wake only the legacy agent timer worker. - Connect direct issue-state writers and existing execution-control notifications to monitor work. Checkout uses a short transaction around its existing CAS. Provider work stays outside it. - Add real database lifecycle tests and retain routine, startup, admission, execution-control, and native-projection coverage. - Record the obligation, producer inventory, recovery behavior, and limits in `doc/plans/2026-10-27-issue-monitor-sleep-audit.md`. ## Verification - **1,233 passing cases in 35 complete files**, no skips, on accepted source `c24aadfc91e9394d73c799f9e05fc67202160557`. Coverage includes real monitor scheduling/admission, native settlement, committed producers, retained routines and all shared deadline consumer integration suites. - Database build, production server typechecking/build, module boundaries, target migration order and Runner profile identity pass. Twenty-four fresh PostgreSQL 17 schemas plus per-file fixtures applied all 412 journal entries through index 413; every selected source hash and temporary fixture import was restored exactly. - Normal parent reconciliation preserves master's admitted-wake result and scoped issue deletion while keeping committed monitor notifications. All other paths match the automatic merge; packages remain byte-exact to the qualified parent. The final routine-parent publication changes only its audit. - Historical failures and corrections remain in [the monitor audit](doc/plans/2026-10-27-issue-monitor-sleep-audit.md). Old delegated-Slack rate and Runner drain CI failures are retained; the current inherited clock fixture and package source are byte-identical to merged #17835. Fresh final-head CI remains required. - No full local repository-suite, live provider, deployed suspend/wake, external-alarm, production-load or fleet-savings claim. Final-head CI/security, exact-head Greptile 5/5 and actionable Ponytail findings remain separate merge gates. ## Risks - A missing producer notification can strand a monitor after polling is removed. The audit covers ordinary writes, direct status/assignment writers, recovery, and native ownership changes. - The writer model is process-local. Independent SQL writers and other replicas need a supported notification or reconciliation contract. - Overdue work uses the configured heartbeat interval as a retry floor for the monitor worker. New notifications during that backoff wait for its next pass. Normal state-change bursts coalesce for one second. - Notification fanout can inspect monitors during other active work. An unchanged idle subsystem has no recurring monitor scan. - The legacy agent timer still polls. Cloud sleep proofs and external alarm coverage are unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6-based coding agent), using repository inspection, ordinary Git merges, composition proofs, PostgreSQL fixtures and complete local integration suites. No subagents were used in this reconciliation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): settle external conversations from committed work (#17772)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/6/changes/paperclip/6 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and the tasks that they execute. > - External conversations must become idle after an authorized response is published and all related work is complete. > - Native replay and stranded-task recovery still discover this settlement work through recurring scans. > - A new deadline worker must preserve response ordering, monitor handoffs, and unfinished work. > - This pull request gives settlement one shared readiness predicate and activates its worker from committed changes. > - Existing rows provide recovery truth. No new table or per-feature timer is added. > - The benefit is a settlement worker that becomes quiet and resumes when relevant work changes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17758. This is slice 56. Slice 55 has merged. Related: #17606 (chat milestones), #17663 (bounded run reads), #17665 (monitor proof), and #13809 (answered Slack conversation lifecycle). The provider applicability remains Slack and Speko-owned conversations. This does not extend Telegram settlement from #16559. **What happened?** Conversation settlement depended on periodic native replay and generic task recovery. An exhausted monitor also cleared its schedule before recovery admission. During that gap, an answered conversation could look finished. Failed or deferred admission lost the monitor schedule. **Expected behavior** Relevant committed changes activate settlement. The worker uses the owning service's evidence and becomes quiet when no settlement is owed. Monitor recovery stays pending until admission, and restart does not admit an already accepted recovery twice. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create an active external conversation with a successful run and an authorized published response. 2. Keep execution, approval, a goal, or a monitor pending. Let the settlement worker become quiet. 3. Resolve that prerequisite through its owning service. Verify that the conversation settles without another periodic sweep. 4. Delay or fail exhausted-monitor recovery admission. Verify that the monitor remains pending and the conversation cannot settle during the handoff. **Paperclip version or commit** Accepted production source: `50f4432ed88537b8d522cf1dce24c33588db0bac`. Parent #17758 merged as `8ac5a128e66fb672e88106412f76cf278599bfc4`. The publication adopts that actual squash through a normal merge with an unchanged complete child tree. ## What Changed - Preserve quiet after coarse company-only maintenance hints. The shared inbound-notice and response-availability helpers keep settlement enabled by default. Only the milestone dispatcher suppresses their duplicate settlement fanout. Its scoped issue-review signal and the explicit company-authority signal still wake real work. Four database cases prove both quiet and real company-wide producer delivery. - Preserve source-generation checks for chat handoff, task-before-comment locking, issue-scoped decision invalidation, and current conversation event columns from master. - Track initial external conversation settlement through shutdown without blocking HTTP readiness on endpoint or task locks. - Reuse the real queue's coalesced recovery receipt after restart, without admitting the same monitor recovery again. - Share the existing conversation readiness predicate between bounded discovery and locked settlement. Preserve current provider policy, run/publication proof, company boundaries, and endpoint-to-issue lock order. - Register a scoped deadline worker through the delivery coordinator. Preserve startup, restore/worktree suppression, drain/resume, failure recovery, and joined shutdown. - Extend existing review, milestone, wake-notice, and finalization signals. Add notifications at independent issue, comment, goal, session, and wake-receipt unblocks. - Keep monitor owner recovery pending until guarded admission. Reuse an accepted receipt for the same monitor schedule after restart, even when its limit reason changes; retain compatibility with legacy receipt keys. Commit board escalation and its monitor clear together. - Delegate periodic native settlement while preserving resource callbacks. Keep direct/manual defaults and preserve generic recovery ordering with a read-only readiness guard. - Add the producer and lifecycle audit in `doc/plans/2026-10-26-external-conversation-settlement-sleep.md` and update the stack ledger. ## Verification Accepted production source: `50f4432ed88537b8d522cf1dce24c33588db0bac`. Publication head: `b256bb52647affd9f5279ea8c40f48bbe40f031f`. The complete accepted child tree stays unchanged when adopting merged parent #17758. This publication adds only the audit document. - **3,129 distinct cases in 37 complete server files pass**, plus **18 selected chat-response cases** (3,147 selected cases). The other 1,796 chat cases were not run locally. Full settlement, queue, scheduling, run-state, goals, interactions, task Retry, decision targets, status reassessment, workspace, process recovery, and review consumers are covered. - **Preserved failure:** the first 35-file command passed 2,445 cases and timed out one restored-work handoff at its existing 15-second limit. That aggregate command failed. The unchanged full 89-case actions file then passed on a fresh fixture; the affected case took 22 ms. Root cause was not established. No timeout or assertion changed. The 34 other files passed originally. Distinct counts exclude duplicate actions passes. Fresh CI remains a separate gate. - **Indirect wake regression:** the original unconditional baseline failed two quiet checks. Guards alone left the chat case failing with three candidate queries. The final controlled indirect baseline fails one of four cases; the repair passes all four with the same test hash. Positive controls preserve real company-only producers. - **Source and fixture controls:** all 38 selected test files restore to their exact committed hashes after fixture imports. Fresh PostgreSQL 17 fixtures use 413 migrations. All five manual merge resolutions preserve current authority, locking, and event-column contracts. - **Static checks pass:** database build; server typecheck and build; module boundaries; migration order; Copilot profile identity. Runner packages equal the accepted parent byte for byte. No new Runner/package qualification is claimed. - [Current integration and wake audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/b256bb52647affd9f5279ea8c40f48bbe40f031f/doc/plans/2026-10-26-external-conversation-settlement-sleep.md#current-master-integration-and-indirect-wake-audit-2026-10-29). Latest-head CI and exact-head Greptile 5/5 must pass before merge. <details><summary>Earlier revision verification and preserved failure history</summary> Receiver failure fairness: a controlled 1,100 ms batch reproduced a 30-second delay for healthy due receivers. The worker now supplies its existing per-item deadline through `nextRunAtOnError`. All 20 receiver lifecycle tests pass on the owner and combined tip `31c12f1d68ff4a51e06fc2be2abf2c2aee9f9d3a`; server production typechecking passes on the owner. The failed receiver retains its own backoff, and settled receivers return to zero recurring SQL. The five-second assertion budget is unchanged. See [the owning audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/83204a67880d980cfbea3771cee19a3cda0022b7/doc/plans/2026-10-25-chat-receiver-discovery-sleep-audit.md#healthy-receiver-progress-after-a-slow-failed-batch). Current-head CI and review remain required. Approved delegated Test-tab calls now evaluate caller and target policies in the existing claim transaction. Real HTTP regressions first showed a missing caller charge and shared-limit self-rejection. All 78 connection-management cases and 92 gateway cases now pass on the owning branch, along with server production typechecking. All 78 connection-management cases also pass at combined tip `d25f830db89c1623bff3547bfc68015c1c66e0cf`. The three new cases cover shared charges, separate charges, rollback on denial, duplicate approval, and rejection of a later authorized call. Intermediate counter/identity fixture failures and a reused-database Slack collision are recorded in [the owning audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/ef9ae5767430d0093efc736ae0b303ba5afaae65/doc/idle-approved-tool-recovery.md#delegated-test-tab-admission-after-policy-changes). The earlier combined checks below remain evidence for their stated revisions. Current-head CI and review remain required. Inherited voice-cleanup verification: the controlled slow-provider regression and all 13 lifecycle tests passed on its owner and combined tip `ab22d8ed0c09028315607414b83b375e5cc0a60a`. That repair changed only the fixture clock advancement and its audit note. Current head: `83204a67880d980cfbea3771cee19a3cda0022b7`. This remains a single-duty PR stacked on #17758. - Integrated pinned master `8548173fc9efdc0fa07644fb92dcc0b6851a95e5` with normal merges. Every branch passed generated-schema checks and its target-branch migration-order gate. Existing SQL is unchanged; the 25 stack migrations follow master’s new migration. - Duty-specific producer coverage, lifecycle tests, and earlier failure records: [2026-10-24-recurring-server-sleep-stack.md](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/d6d8e4ffa6b330ebf4647aec997ee2dde6abc321/doc/plans/2026-10-24-recurring-server-sleep-stack.md), [2026-10-26-external-conversation-settlement-sleep.md](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/d6d8e4ffa6b330ebf4647aec997ee2dde6abc321/doc/plans/2026-10-26-external-conversation-settlement-sleep.md). - Combined tip `51e6cbe67979b55b340ea9f0f434c5b5c682ccd6`: **355 startup/cancellation/recovery/dispatch/preservation tests**, **75 connection-management tests**, and production server typechecking pass. These combined checks do not mean every intermediate PR independently ran the full repository suite. - Real master-to-stack database upgrade passes: **379 unchanged prior migration receipts plus 25 new migrations**, with the gateway responsibility fixture preserved. - Owning-branch checks: 84 runner installation/settlement cases plus runner typechecking and generated TypeScript/Rust profile agreement; 253 GitHub review workflow cases. Stop-attribution and held-worker readiness regressions failed before their fixes. - Failure accounting: the initial combined run passed 349 cases and failed six idle assertions in a reused preservation database containing old cancelled runs. Repeating the combined command with a fresh preservation database passed. Earlier invalid project selection, merge import/type errors, and the interrupted full local suite are not counted as passing checks. - **Latest-head CI and review remain required.** Prior CI findings include GitHub idle observation, route teardown, attention cleanup, touch-picker E2E, workspace health, and voice-cleanup timing; local passes do not erase those failures. No full local repository-suite, deployed sleep, fleet cost, or live Copilot qualification claim is made. </details> ## Risks - Signals cover supported in-process writers. They do not supply change capture for independent SQL or other replicas. - Real company-wide changes can inspect active candidates. Coarse maintenance hints do not activate settlement. Configured idle and retained history must remain quiet. - Monitor receipt binding and admission order must preserve company, agent, issue, and exact schedule identity. Current parent handoff locks and source-generation checks remain intact. - The local restored-work timeout is retained above. A fresh full-file pass does not establish its cause; latest-head CI must also pass. - Generic recovery and Muse/resource duties remain separate slices. This does not make the whole server idle. Existing Cloud sleep blockers remain. No deployed sleep, database suspension, external alarm coverage, fleet cost, or live provider qualification claim is made. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, code execution, PostgreSQL tests, and GitHub tools. fix(server): resolve native finalization notices from committed wakes (#17758)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native finalization can commit before its recovery notice is resolved. > - The periodic orphan pass revisits committed runs to resolve those notices. > - Retained completed history should not require repeated discovery. > - This PR moves that one duty to transaction wakes and concrete failure retries. > - Existing notice rows reconstruct work after restart. The action service still owns resolution. > - Other completion and resource duties keep their current recovery paths. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17752 (stack parent: committed run projection), #17748 (accepted-result commit), and #17734 (workspace finalization). These are distinct recovery obligations. This slice incorporates parent #17752 at `a49a2dac13b0e1c19da5d3d6b435c781703b1c0b`, now merged as `50fe32684d2d4e1db129e3c1bb455571344a0c09`. Related #17724 retires obsolete exact-session notices for terminal runs with no result and preserves their replay hold. This slice resolves notices after a result committed; it does not change that no-replay policy. **Current behavior** Committed native finalization recovery repeatedly inspects active watchdog notices. A notice can also be updated in place to describe a different run, so resolving a previously selected ID alone is unsafe. **Proposed behavior** Wake a scoped worker from relevant committed writes. Reconstruct active finalization notices at startup. Resolve only the current notice after the native owner rechecks its binding under lifecycle locks. Stop scheduled work when no matching obligation remains. **Reason and benefit** Notice recovery becomes quiet after settlement and reacts to real changes without a polling delay. Reused notices remain attached to their current incident. This does not claim that every remaining server duty or the host can sleep yet. ## What Changed - Track the initial recovery-notice sweep through shutdown without blocking HTTP readiness on task locks. - Require issue/run scope for ordinary finalization fanout. Routine company-only hints leave dormant notices quiet; dedicated owner and explicit settings signals retain their scopes. - Extract the native finalization notice predicate and resolution owner. Keep the existing recovery-action service responsible for writing the resolution. - Bind candidates by company, issue and run. Require a committed result and an active or escalated finalization notice. Exclude held ownership, pending status effects and unfinished run projection. - Recheck coordinator, issue, run and matching actions under locks. A newer incident cannot be resolved from a stale candidate snapshot. - Use the shared scoped worker, transaction signals, retry backoff and lifecycle handling. Add no table, per-feature timer or provider branch. - Signal action insertion, update, supersession and resolution; finalization and effect changes; run projection and ownership release; issue changes; settings activation; and the recovery route that reopens an action. - Preserve no-op resolution quiet. Serialize only the three supported notification IDs, even when a caller supplies a larger internal object. - Delegate only notice resolution from the periodic path. Keep manual/default finalization and other completion/resource work. - Add real PostgreSQL producer, concurrency and lifecycle coverage and a detailed audit. ## Verification - Current local source `730e00a7b007a36d188ca0a328ef050d3a25d1ee` incorporates the parent with a normal merge. All 1,209 parent-only, eight owned-only and 12 automatic shared paths are preserved. The two manual paths retain both chat import sets and scope the new notice fanout. The entire package tree matches parent profile 80 byte-for-byte. - Controlled real-database regression: original notice-only unscoped fanout produces three candidate SELECTs for routine company hints. The same zero-query assertion passes after restoring scoped fanout. The real notice writer then creates and resolves an action for a committed run and returns to quiet. Both phases restore production bytes exactly; the 22 cases outside this focused pattern are not counted as passing there. - The complete main command passes **1,873 cases in 21 files**, without skips, in 309.69 seconds. It includes all 23 notice-worker cases, full presentation/ownership read coverage, 88 startup cases, and the projection/result/physical-work consumers. Process recovery passes 410 in 163.54 seconds and external-chat response passes 273 in 53.48 seconds. Total complete-file acceptance: **2,556 cases in 23 complete files**, with no skips. The additional focused chat selection passes 18 cases in 13.44 seconds; 1,796 unselected chat cases do not count. Total selected passes: **2,574**. Normal merge `a0f2b3f4348b078219a53d8cc135c84202ba505e` adopts actual parent ancestry with this complete tested child tree unchanged. - The chat selection covers the real reply/notice row-lock regression, Slack and Telegram response recovery, current-authority denial cases, exact canonical response binding and internal GitHub attachment navigation. Other cases in the giant chat file remain unselected; this is not full chat-suite acceptance. - Production server typecheck, build, module boundaries, migration order and source identity checks pass. Twenty dedicated PostgreSQL 17 databases use the unchanged migration 413 schema. Embedded-only invocations use the existing fresh-per-call recovery helper. All temporary imports restore exactly and all 24 selected test hashes match after completion. No assertion or timeout is relaxed. - Parent package acceptance remains applicable: 130 passing installation/compatibility/transport cases, 22 installed ACPX/Grok contract cases and 26 native-provider Rust cases. One existing opt-in closed Pi snapshot case is skipped because its distribution root is unset. This does not qualify a live provider. - Failure history and scope are retained in `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-recovery-notice-sleep-audit.md`. Current-head acceptance: all 57 checks are clean, including protected CI and security. Greptile gives 5/5 on `2a8777bbed8b1e10810e3d6d99aae3f25b4854ef`, with no actionable findings. Prior scores do not substitute. No Ponytail verdict is present under the authorized missing-review policy. No full local repository suite, deployed sleep, expanded Cloud wake coverage or measured savings is claimed. ## Risks - Resolution takes coordinator, issue, run and action locks in the native recovery order. Contention must preserve the current incident; the real concurrent-upsert and competing-resolver cases exercise this boundary. - Process-local signals cover instrumented application writers. They do not add support for independent SQL writers or replicas without supported ingress. Startup reconstructs the existing durable rows. - Completed finalization is not proof that external conversation settlement, Muse reconciliation or physical cleanup finished. Those obligations retain their owners and recovery paths. - Discovery uses narrow keyset pages. No fleet benchmark, host suspension or cost reduction is claimed. Cloud wake coverage remains unchanged. - Parent #17752 has merged. This PR targets master at `50fe32684d2d4e1db129e3c1bb455571344a0c09`. Fresh current-head CI and review must pass before the authorized protected merge. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools and code execution. fix(server): wake committed native run projection from durable changes (#17752)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A native run has separate result acceptance, task decision, run status, and resource settlement steps. > - A task decision can commit before its run status is saved. > - Recovery currently revisits committed decisions through the periodic orphan pass. > - This PR gives the existing run projection repair its own transaction-driven worker. > - Existing records reconstruct unfinished work after restart. Completed history becomes quiet. > - Other completion and resource obligations keep their existing recovery paths. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17748 (stack parent: accepted-result commit), #17734 (workspace finalization), and #17717 (retained session cleanup). Related #17614 preserves terminal notifications. This slice is prepared on current parent #17748 at `b2efdb2dbbbef5b2227ffa2bd2a9a6cfe3867fe2`; the parent has merged as `28e38da7e6bdd6af4092dda56bc2be05bed47af5`. **Current behavior** The native recovery pass revisits committed decisions to repair the heartbeat-run status and metadata. A crash between decision and run writes creates real work, but periodic scanning also revisits retained history. **Proposed behavior** Wake projection repair after committed producer changes. Reconstruct mismatches on startup and settings activation. Retry concrete failures through the shared scheduler. Keep the run projection before resource settlement. **Reason and benefit** The repair worker performs no recurring SQL after its work settles. A real decision, effect settlement, or ownership release reactivates it. This is one worker migration; it does not establish host or database suspension. ## What Changed - Extract the existing projection predicate and write into their native-runtime owner. The finalizer keeps initial metadata enrichment and task decision authority. - Discover accepted, committed, mismatched run projections with company, issue and run bindings. Exclude pending status effects and held runner ownership. Read narrow fields instead of whole result payloads. - Use existing transaction hints, scoped delivery scheduling, failure backoff and lifecycle handling. Add no tables or per-feature timers. - Require issue/run scope for ordinary finalization fanout. Routine company-only hints leave dormant projection quiet; explicit settings and dedicated producer signals keep their existing contract. - Connect finalization, pending effects, lifecycle status writes, issue changes and worktree execution activation. Preserve outer transaction commit and rollback behavior. - Lock the current run before deciding which terminal event and completion time to save. Concurrent live and recovery projection must not announce the same transition twice. - Delegate only already-committed projection from the periodic pass. Its candidate scan uses the same pending predicate to defer remaining consequences and cleanup until projection finishes. - Add real PostgreSQL producer, race and lifecycle tests plus an owner audit. ## Verification - Current local source `a83b9449233a275176e637c765059f414305d7c1` incorporates the parent with a normal merge. All 1,208 parent-only, seven owned-only and ten automatic shared paths are preserved. The only manual conflict keeps new projection fanout inside the ordinary issue/run guard. The complete package tree matches parent profile 80 byte-for-byte. - Controlled real-database regression: the original projection-only unscoped fanout produces three candidate SELECTs for routine company hints. The same zero-query assertion passes with scoped fanout. A real committed result then repairs the run and emits one terminal event before returning to quiet. Production bytes restore exactly in both phases. Twenty cases outside that focused pattern are not counted as passing there. - The complete main command passes **1,830 cases in 19 files**, without skips, in 301.14 seconds. It includes all 21 projection cases, 85 startup cases, required quality review and heartbeat run lifecycle, plus physical-work and result-commit consumers. Separate process recovery passes 410 in 163.58 seconds and external-chat response passes 273 in 53.26 seconds. Total: **2,513 distinct passes in 21 complete files**, with no skips. Normal merge `d4b46fd29cb23126d556cc3aeb883e6b41f1a8a5` adopts the actual parent squash with this entire tested child tree unchanged. - Production server typecheck, build, module boundaries, migration order and source identity checks pass. Seventeen dedicated PostgreSQL 17 databases use the unchanged migration 413 schema. Embedded-only calls use the existing fresh-per-call recovery helper. All temporary imports restore byte-exact and all 21 selected test hashes match after completion. No assertion or timeout is relaxed. - Parent package acceptance remains applicable: 130 passing installation/compatibility/transport cases, 22 installed ACPX/Grok contract cases and 26 native-provider Rust cases. One pre-existing opt-in closed Pi snapshot case is skipped because its distribution root is not configured. No live provider qualification is claimed. - The owner audit at `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-run-projection-sleep-audit.md` retains prior failures and their disposition. Current-head acceptance: all 57 checks are clean, including protected CI and security. Greptile gives 5/5 on `a49a2dac13b0e1c19da5d3d6b435c781703b1c0b`, with no actionable findings. Old scores do not substitute. No Ponytail verdict is present under the authorized missing-review policy. - These checks do not claim a full local repository suite, deployed suspension, expanded Cloud wake coverage or measured cost savings. ## Risks - Process-local signals cover instrumented application writers. Independent SQL writers and replicas without supported ingress are not newly covered. Durable startup reconstruction remains enabled. - Projection must precede remaining committed resource settlement. The real reconciler test proves the periodic path defers cleanup while projection is pending and resumes it after repair. - Status decisions, external conversation settlement, watchdog resolution, Muse reconciliation and resource release keep their own authority and recovery. A committed result alone is not proof of completed cleanup. - Candidate discovery uses narrow bounded pages. There is no large-fleet performance or deployed sleep claim. Existing Cloud wake coverage and sleep blockers remain unchanged. - Parent #17748 has merged. This PR targets master at `28e38da7e6bdd6af4092dda56bc2be05bed47af5`. Current-head CI and review must pass before the authorized protected merge. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools and code execution. fix(server): wake native result commits from durable work (#17748)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and preserves their results through failures. > - Native completion must save workspace output before it commits the accepted result. > - The orphan recovery pass repeatedly revisits this work even when the subsystem is idle. > - Accepted results, workspace receipts, retry dates and leases already provide durable truth. > - This PR wakes a scoped worker from those writes and schedules only real unfinished work. > - It preserves existing finalization authority and keeps later projection and resource recovery separate. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17734 and #17717. This is slice 53 of the existing sleep stack, targeting master after parent #17734 merged at `a019d00a393b57f531afe8dd8ab0b8a1820d1c4c`. A current search found no duplicate accepted-result commit PR. **What problem does this solve?** Native accepted-result recovery currently depends on periodic orphan scanning. Quiet instances keep doing work to discover that no result needs a commit. **What improvement do you propose?** Use the shared delivery coordinator with transaction-bound producer signals. Reconstruct unfinished results at startup. Preserve saved retry and lease deadlines. Remove only uncommitted-result execution from the periodic pass. **Why is this useful?** The accepted-result worker becomes quiet with no work or retained completed history. Real results and completed workspace operations reactivate it without a polling delay. This does not claim that the whole server or database can sleep yet. ## What Changed - Track the initial result-commit sweep through shutdown without blocking HTTP readiness on recovery locks. - Keep ordinary company-only finalization hints from reconstructing dormant result work. Existing company settings and dedicated owner signals remain supported. - Add a native result-commit worker. Bind candidates by company, issue, run, accepted result and a successful workspace receipt. Exclude committed, terminal, held and pending-effect work. - Signal both accepted-result writers and workspace receipt writes before their transaction changes. Extend the existing finalization fanout for retry, lease, effect and completion transitions. - Add an optional atomic due-date check to the existing finalizer claim. A lease collision or later retry does not consume a failed attempt. - Signal native retry cancellation so it removes the saved wake after commit. - Register through the existing heartbeat suppression and shared delivery lifecycle. Preserve outer commit/rollback, drain/resume, settings activation and shutdown behavior. - Delegate only uncommitted-result execution from the periodic orphan pass. Keep committed projection and resource settlement recovery enabled. - Add real producer/lifecycle tests and a detailed audit. No new tables, provider branches or per-feature timers. ## Verification - Current local source `2af88fa55f961a74340880240019f6cd31e21bf1` incorporates the parent with a normal merge. All 1,203 parent-only, nine owned-only and 12 automatic shared paths are preserved. The only manual conflict keeps the new result fanout inside the existing ordinary issue/run scope guard. The complete package tree matches parent profile 80 byte-for-byte. - Controlled real-database regression: the original result-only unscoped fanout produces three candidate SELECTs for routine company hints. The same zero-query assertion passes after restoring the scoped fanout. A real workspace receipt and accepted result then commit exactly one decision and return to quiet. Red and green restore production bytes exactly. Twenty cases outside the focused pattern are not counted as passing there. - The complete main selection passes **1,746 cases in 16 files**, without skips, in 277.97 seconds. This includes all 21 result-worker lifecycle cases and 82 startup cases, including held result recovery, HTTP readiness and shutdown joining. Separate process recovery passes 410 cases in 162.42 seconds and external-chat response passes 273 in 53.41 seconds. Total: **2,429 distinct passes in 18 complete files**, with no skips. Normal merge `998239b019defe52e7b5d64f884de4e871ccd736` adopts the actual parent squash and preserves this complete tested child tree. - Production server typecheck, build, module boundaries, migration order and source identity checks pass. Fifteen dedicated PostgreSQL 17 databases use the unchanged migration 413 schema. Embedded-only calls use the existing fresh-per-call recovery helper. All temporary imports restore byte-exact, and every selected test hash matches after completion. No assertion or timeout is relaxed. - Runner validation belongs to the unchanged parent package tree: 130 passing installation/compatibility/transport cases, 22 installed ACPX/Grok contract cases and 26 native-provider Rust cases. One existing opt-in closed Pi snapshot case is skipped because its distribution root is not configured. This does not claim live provider qualification. - Earlier Greptile 4/5 on `656f6722be1aedf3d52b7f853956e15838204278` correctly identified startup blocking on result recovery. The prior branch `108cf0dc8296bf451b721ddac55ecbcd035d00f0` already tracks its ready promise through the existing lifecycle owner. Current full startup acceptance verifies the fix in the merged context. The later Greptile service error is not a pass; current-head acceptance now passes: all 57 checks are clean, including protected CI and security. Greptile gives 5/5 on `b2efdb2dbbbef5b2227ffa2bd2a9a6cfe3867fe2`, with no actionable findings. No Ponytail verdict is present under the authorized missing-review policy. - The owner audit at `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-result-commit-sleep-audit.md` retains earlier failures and their disposition. These checks do not claim a full local repository suite, deployed app/database suspension, expanded Cloud wake coverage or measured cost savings. ## Risks - Process-local signals cover instrumented application writes in the owning server process. They do not cover independent SQL writers or another replica without supported ingress. Durable startup reconstruction remains enabled. - The initial native decision and its run projection are separate transactions. The periodic reconciler still repairs already-committed results and releases resources. This PR must not be used to infer that committed means fully settled. - Candidate discovery adds bounded, narrow reads at startup and after signals. No large-fleet query benchmark is claimed. - Existing Cloud alarm coverage, host sleep safety and resource blockers are unchanged. No deployed sleep or savings claim is made. - Parent #17734 has merged. This PR targets master at `a019d00a393b57f531afe8dd8ab0b8a1820d1c4c`. Fresh current-head CI and review remain required before merge. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools and code execution. fix(server): wake native workspace finalization from committed work (#17734)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native runs can accept a result before workspace copy-back finishes. > - The periodic orphan pass repeatedly tries this recovery, including cases that require operator action. > - Copy-back needs exact ownership evidence. A generic timer cannot grant that authority. > - This pull request wakes workspace recovery from committed changes and local owner completion. > - Saved retries use the existing scheduler. Empty work, completed barriers, and operator holds become quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17717. This is slice 52 of the recurring-server sleep stack, targeting master after parent #17717 merged at `4c56702e06c698cc10d4a86514669aba0f4d9a9b`. Related work: #17709 (status reassessment), #17687 (unsafe export recovery), and #16478 (workspace repair holds). This PR covers native workspace copy-back and validation. Result commit/projection and resource settlement remain separate recovery duties. It does not claim full-instance sleep. ## What Changed - Register a company/run/task-scoped workspace worker. Reconstruct accepted, unfinished work from existing records. Use saved retry and lease deadlines. - Notify from both accepted-result writers (control-plane and PRP coordinator), workspace receipts, coordinator changes, operator confirmation, retained workspace repair, and relevant task updates. Notifications follow the outer transaction. - Distinguish active local ownership, busy external ownership, pending Cloud evidence, operator-required evidence, and changed bindings. Only concrete external ownership/evidence waits receive a scoped retry. - Preserve advisory locks, signed stop proof, exact binding checks, physical callback joins, and existing failure policy. Join physical operations during shutdown. - Respect the existing heartbeat execution-suppression policy before discovery and execution; wake suppressed work on settings activation. - Skip physical workspace recovery in the enabled periodic orphan pass. Keep direct/startup reconciliation and the remaining result/cleanup recovery paths. - Keep routine company-only finalization hints quiet. Ordinary work requires issue/run scope; explicit settings and owner-release events keep their company-wide contract. - Preserve the parent's entire Runner/package tree, profile 80 and all historical identities. Add the dated obligation, producer, lifecycle and limitation audit. ## Verification - Current local source: `4059b24e3ea5c623be54ade18ec9b6ab78eb0289`, prepared by a normal merge of the current parent. The sole manual conflict keeps ordinary workspace fanout inside the existing issue/run guard. All 1,198 parent-only, 15 owned-only and 10 automatic shared paths are preserved. The complete package tree matches the parent byte-for-byte. - Controlled regression: the original workspace-only unscoped fanout performs three candidate SELECTs for routine company hints. The same zero-query assertion passes with scoped fanout. A real accepted result then produces one successful workspace settlement and returns to quiet. The failed baseline remains in the audit. - The first complete local group passes **1,693 cases in 14 files**, including all 19 workspace-worker cases. It covers both accepted-result producers, physical ownership, export retry/failure, finalization recovery, arbiter corpus, issue recovery actions, control-plane port, workspace recovery, heartbeat recovery, startup, retained cleanup and native execution. - Separate process-recovery and external-chat response files qualify the changed recovery/settlement paths without sharing their general test database with other files. Both pass in full: 410 process-recovery cases in 162.79 seconds and 273 external-chat cases in 53.79 seconds. The total is **2,376 distinct passes in 16 complete files**, with no skips. Normal merge `5c46c52873158529736b8349e4d44658865108ee` adopts the parent squash with this entire tested child tree unchanged. - Production server typechecking, build, module boundaries, migration order and source-profile checks pass. Thirteen dedicated PostgreSQL 17 fixtures use the unchanged migration 413 schema. Embedded-only paths use the existing recovery helper with fresh per-call fixtures. All temporary imports are restored byte-exact. No test assertion or timeout is relaxed. - Runner validation belongs to the unchanged parent package tree: 130 passing installation/compatibility/transport cases, 22 installed ACPX/Grok contract cases and 26 native-provider Rust cases. One existing opt-in closed Pi snapshot case is skipped because its distribution root is not configured. These are source-scoped checks, with no live provider qualification claim. - The owner audit at `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-workspace-finalization-sleep-audit.md` preserves earlier failures and their disposition. Current-head acceptance: all 57 checks are clean, including protected CI and security. Greptile gives 5/5 on `7df5c9c44ea9e171be3c61b4430d3727b10f3337` with no actionable findings. Earlier scores do not substitute for this result. No Ponytail verdict is present under the authorized missing-review policy. - No claim of a full local repository suite, deployed app/database sleep, expanded Cloud wake coverage or measured cost savings is made. ## Risks - Supported wake producers are in-process application services. This adds no cross-replica or independent SQL-writer transport. - A real unresolved export still needs recovery. Busy owners and pending Cloud stop evidence retain a 30-second scoped check. No timeout authorizes copy-back. - Result projection and resource release still use their existing recovery. Some existing cleanup failures remain best effort; this PR does not infer cleanup success from a workspace barrier. - Cloud alarm coverage and host-sleep safety remain unchanged. No deployed suspension or cost savings have been measured. - Parent #17717 is merged. Current base is master at `4c56702e06c698cc10d4a86514669aba0f4d9a9b`. Fresh current-head CI and review must pass before this slice merges. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools and code execution. fix(server): wake native status reassessment from committed changes (#17709)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents, tasks and their durable native results. > - Changed evidence, task authority or review retirement can require a new status assessment. > - Periodic orphan recovery repeatedly reads history to find these changes. > - This change gives reassessment an owner driven by committed changes and saved deadlines. > - Existing result, assessment, decision and task rows remain durable truth. > - The status committer still verifies current sources and authority before writing. > - Settled or insufficient evidence becomes quiet until a supported producer changes it. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17702 (merged), #17679 and #17680. This is slice 50, now based on master. It owns native status reassessment; workspace settlement, retained sessions and other orphan duties remain separate. **What happened?** Periodic recovery repeatedly inspects completed native results. Removing that scan without complete writer coverage or current authority checks could strand new evidence or commit an old result over newer work. **Expected behavior** Reassess from existing durable facts after relevant outer transactions commit. Retain real retry/lease deadlines and restart/drain recovery. Preserve current authority, quality-review and supersession checks. Make no recurring SQL when work is settled or dormant. **Steps to reproduce** Complete a native result awaiting evidence or review, leave it idle, then approve a real work product or retire the selected automatic review. Its saved result should advance once when authorized, or record the existing nonterminal business gate, without a periodic scan. ## What Changed - Extract reassessment and its pure status policy from finalization recovery into their owning modules. Add a scoped worker using the existing delivery coordinator and scheduler; no queue table or migration is added. - Retain the three durable discovery triggers: changed work-product history, authoritative task status/version, or retirement of the selected automatic completion review. Preserve selected-source, ownership, effects, retry and lease fences under the existing committer. - Notify from actual task/work-product, claim release, approval, interaction, OAuth, event evidence and workspace-settlement owners before their transaction writes. Keep provider calls outside short transactions and nested writes behind outer commit. - Scope ordinary milestone/finalization/coalesced-input wakes to an issue/run. Keep genuine company authority restoration explicit. Real Photon and coalescer regressions cover all three response/status queues. - Move the current parent's required quality policy into the owner and apply it to every reassessment that could complete a task. An unmet review records the existing in-progress decision and next action, avoiding an operational retry loop. Preserve conversation/session reset locks and the workspace omission-barrier signal. - Skip reassessment in periodic recovery while preserving explicit/startup recovery and the historical supersession guard before independent workspace work. Document the source contract, producer inventory, failures and qualifications in the linked audit. ## Verification - Broad source `9fddb3f0b1157df32b64fb1f22e9d6e9624470e8` passes **2731 distinct cases in 28 complete files**, with no skips: 2458 producer/owner/authority/workspace/quality cases in 394.43 seconds and all 273 governed-response cases in 53.74 seconds. Nineteen dedicated fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through 0413; eighteen embedded-only invocations preserve fresh-per-call isolation through the existing recovery helper. All 22 temporary imports restore exactly and all 28 hashes match. - Final runtime source `5ea3b0fd016bf7e63ba82a7044825a46a0cd2082` passes **1211 cases in five complete affected files** in 108.23 seconds after the narrowly reproduced evidence-trigger fix: all 43 worker, 145 corpus, 32 finalization-recovery, 968 native-session and 23 quality-review cases. Four fresh databases plus the quality helper's own fresh fixture use PostgreSQL 17. Its one adapted import restores exactly; all five hashes match. The other 27 broad-run test files are unchanged. These qualifications are source-scoped and not cumulatively double-counted. - Required/optional real regressions reproduce retry loops on retired-review and evidence-approval paths before repair; both become SQL quiet afterward with unchanged assertions/time limits. Controlled removal of only ordinary scope guards reproduces two coarse-hint SQL failures; exact guard restoration passes. Real producer, outer transaction, claim, authority, 103-item backlog, retry and drain cases pass. Photon transport is mocked; callbacks, locks and observed SQL are real. - Normal merges preserve 12661 parent/unrelated entries, 35 owned entries and 21 automatic shared results, with five original conflicts reviewed explicitly. The parent's actual squash reconciliation preserves the entire held child tree. The final quality fix changes only its owner and tests. Fourteen added comments are removed with identical nontrivia tokens; no directives are removed and the final comment check is empty. - Database build, server types/build, boundaries and exact-head migration order pass. The database tree is identical to merged #17702: no new SQL, queue table or snapshot is generated. Earlier benchmarks, host limitations, failed assertions and their repairs remain in `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-status-reassessment-sleep-audit.md` and `doc/idle-native-status-reassessment.md`. - This qualifies targeted external PostgreSQL behavior, not embedded bootstrap on the semaphore-exhausted host, a full local repository suite, deployed sleep or measured fleet savings. Fresh exact-head CI and review remain required. ## Risks - Notifications retain the process-local supported-writer contract. Independent SQL writers and uncoordinated replicas are not covered by a new transport. - Reassessment competes with current authority changes. Existing row/source locks and retries remain required; arbitrary missing identities have no row to lock, so this is not a general predicate-lock guarantee. - Discovery pages 100 rows but retains outstanding candidates in memory. It remains proportional to backlog size, and cancellation occurs between queries. - Other orphan/workspace/session duties and Cloud sleep eligibility remain unchanged. Missing supported producer coverage could strand dormant work, so the producer audit and real callback/transaction tests remain part of acceptance. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution and PostgreSQL tests. The runtime does not expose a more specific serving snapshot or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted scope is stated above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule governed review response recovery (#17702)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents, tasks and their external chat responses. > - A completed chat turn can owe a response while an earlier review gate remains pending. > - Periodic recovery revisits that response history even when no work can advance. > - This change uses the existing delivery coordinator and saved retry deadlines. > - Approval, interaction and authority changes wake the affected issue or run after commit. > - The existing presentation owner verifies the durable result and current authority. > - Settled and dormant history becomes quiet without losing future eligible responses. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17696 (merged) and #15625. This is slice 49, now based on master. It owns governed-review response presentation. Accepted responses and pending decision effects keep their existing owners. **What happened?** Native finalization recovery repeatedly inspects committed review responses. Removing the scan without covering approval, interaction, task-policy and authority changes would strand responses that become eligible later. **Expected behavior** Recover an owed response once from existing durable facts. Enforce authority at publication, wake after relevant outer transactions commit, retain real retry deadlines and restart/drain recovery, and stop recurring SQL when no response can advance. **Steps to reproduce** Complete an external chat turn while an earlier completion review remains pending. Block its response behind an approval or interaction, then resolve that blocker. The response must appear once without a periodic scan or resolving the original review gate. ## What Changed - Add a scoped governed-review worker using the existing coordinator, finalizations, decisions and comment receipts. No queue table or transaction wrapper is added. - Keep recovery and publication policy in the native finalizer. Preserve binding, source/session authority, ownership, deadline and deleted-comment fences; match coordinator-before-issue lock ordering. - Notify through actual approval, interaction, OAuth, task-policy and lifecycle producers before their owned writes. Serialize approval resolution with task linking so a concurrent link retains its wake. Nested transactions still settle at outer commit. - Scope ordinary milestones, finalization and coalesced input to their issue/run. Use the explicit company authority boundary for genuine global restoration, including membership changes. Both response workers share this boundary. - Register under maintenance and drain gates, disable the two periodic repair entrances, and retain fresh finalization and explicit recovery. Add the concurrent 0413 comment-receipt index and migration registration; retain five snapshots. - Preserve the producer inventory, source qualifications and earlier failures in the owner audit. Retain a real Photon regression proving routine ownership assertions stay quiet and concurrent authority restoration wakes each worker once. ## Verification - Scoped repair source `2341714720b5c273f0ce011b48345af0ef39227f` passes **2053 distinct cases**: 1703 in 15 complete producer/authority/recovery files, including all 273 governed-response cases and 95 wake-queue adapter cases, plus 350 selected chat cases. Another 1463 chat cases are outside that selection. Thirteen fresh PostgreSQL 17 fixtures migrate through unchanged 0413; the one temporary queue-fixture import restores exactly. All sixteen captured hashes match. - Two actual repeated coarse-hint SQL regressions fail before repair and pass afterward. Actual membership restoration passes before and after. The same assertions and time limits prove dormant work stays quiet and real authority restoration still publishes once. Real coalesced input covers both queues after commit. - Combined source `586f5674cd9798b33cd22437255e0480b5726d20`, including independent master #18129, passes **1297 distinct cases**: 1093 in five complete server files, 185 in five runner files, 14 Node protocol cases and five UI registry cases. This includes the complete 22-case Photon file for both response workers. The external Photon transport is mocked; Paperclip callbacks, transaction fences and observed SQL are real. The earlier and combined case counts are separate, with no cumulative double-counting. - A normal merge retains both complete owned and independent master binary patches. All twelve new-context hashes and sixteen earlier repair hashes match. Three dedicated fresh 0413 fixtures plus the live-event helper's own fresh database use PostgreSQL 17 without source adaptations. Database build, server types/build, boundaries, full-SHA migration order and generated TS/Rust profiles pass. The new inherited Runner vendor inputs rebuild successfully. - Database bytes remain identical to the previously qualified 0413 source. The recorded populated 0412-to0413 upgrade retains all 411 prior receipts and 38 companies, appends one receipt and none on replay; the index is valid and ready. The earlier 2828-case acceptance, CLI journey, setup failures and their repairs retain their recorded source scope in `doc/plans/2026-10-26-governed-review-response-sleep-audit.md`. - Parent #17696 merged with 58 clean checks, Greptile 5/5 and Ponytail 5/5. Its Photon warning was disproved by real callback/SQL evidence and the security check became successful. This PR still requires its own fresh exact-head CI and review gates. No deployed sleep, external alarm or fleet savings claim is made. ## Risks - Notifications use the existing process-local writer contract. Independent SQL writers and uncoordinated replicas are outside its coverage. - Genuine startup and company authority reconstruction remain proportional to the owed backlog. Queries page 100 rows, but discovery accumulates the candidates; this is not a constant-cost global operation. - Current publication authorization, durable binding, ownership and lock ordering remain mandatory. The worker does not resolve the original review gate. - The concurrent index uses existing migration replay handling. Other recovery duties and Cloud sleep eligibility remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution and PostgreSQL tests. The runtime does not expose a more specific serving snapshot or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule historical unsafe export recovery (#17687)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native runs can retain accepted results after an unsafe workspace export fails. > - Historical recovery can retire an old notice or resume the accepted result without another provider turn. > - The periodic reaper repeatedly scans failures that cannot currently recover. > - Existing rows and committed changes can identify the actual recovery obligation. > - This pull request wakes recovery from those changes and retries only owed work. > - Dormant history becomes quiet while ownership and explicit operator decisions remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The native finalization reaper repeatedly visits historical unsafe workspace-export failures. Cancelled tasks, newer runs, changed contracts, and explicit operator decisions can make those rows permanently ineligible. They still produce periodic database reads. **What did you expect?** Retire stale unsafe-export notices and recover eligible accepted results. Stop reading dormant history until a relevant committed change occurs. Keep a retry while a real obligation is blocked by ownership or a transient failure. **Steps to reproduce** Retain an unsafe-export terminal failure whose task is cancelled or superseded. Leave the instance idle after startup. The periodic reaper continues reading that history. Prerequisite #17680 is merged into master. Related: #14402 established safe export finalization; #14329 was an earlier historical recovery proposal. #17679 owns separate policy-review cleanup. This PR changes only historical unsafe-export scheduling and its producers. ## What Changed - Register a scoped worker through the existing coordinator and scheduler. Remove this duty from periodic reaping. Preserve the manual/startup recovery entry point. - Distinguish stale notices, eligible accepted results, dormant history, and concrete ownership contention. Reuse the existing mutation owner and lock order. Preserve explicit settlement vetoes and exact result/contract identity. - Signal relevant task, run, action, and deletion writes before they commit. Existing transaction boundaries handle nested commits and uncertain outcomes. Notifications contain only scope IDs. - Retain a retry only for owed work. Reconstruct work at startup, preserve drain/resume, and stop through the shared lifecycle. - Add concurrent, idempotent partial index migration 0410 for unsafe terminal failures. Keep the five newest generated schema snapshots. - Document producer coverage, query plans, supported writer boundaries, and test failures in the unsafe-export audit. ## Verification - Source `2a13dd08a6cc52f0adab09e3df9ce31e97b746b9` passes all 2188 cases across 24 complete files, without skips. The main selection passes 2129 cases in 192.58 seconds; safe-replacement passes 59 in 26.04 seconds. Coverage includes all 968 native-session cases, real export/action producers, explicit continuation, workspace reconstruction, interaction routing, Stop, queue and Slack consumers. The audit gives per-file counts. - Twenty separate fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through 0410 before setup. Four embedded-only fixture imports temporarily use their own external database on this IPC-exhausted host, then are restored byte for byte. Assertions and timing limits stay unchanged. This is qualified external-database acceptance, not an unmodified embedded CI run. - Database build, server typecheck/build, module boundaries and exact-head migration order pass. Normal integration preserves the complete original runtime/schema patch and unrelated upstream blobs. Original concurrent index SQL, all prior executable history, journal entries and retained snapshot bytes are unchanged; five snapshots 0406 through 0410 remain. Added comment removal preserves the full non-comment TypeScript token streams. - A populated 0409-to0410 upgrade preserves all 408 prior migration receipts and 38 companies. It appends exactly one receipt; replay adds none. The index is valid and ready on fresh and upgraded databases. - The owning audit retains earlier fixture failures, skipped checks and notice-retirement regression history. Older combined stack checks retain their original scope in their owning audits. Actual parent `73d24aa5acfcf17b3f676b4da7cd05eb70b60b99` is reconciled through a normal merge. Its tree equals the reviewed ancestor and the complete accepted child tree is unchanged. Fresh published-head CI and Greptile 5/5 remain required. No deployed sleep, fleet-cost or live provider qualification claim is made. - Inherited prefix correction: current integration `8f43c9f81fac23b50997e7f0e1d0d9cf383a8109` changes only two values in a previously unselected corpus fixture. All production code, the complete package tree and all 24 accepted test files remain byte-identical to the 2188-case source above. The additional complete 72-case corpus passes in 14.00 seconds and again on the same database in 13.08 seconds. Retained PSC/OUT and sentinel rows remain unchanged. The repeat is not double-counted. The parent audit retains the original collision and rejected cleanup attempt. - Latest parent context: integration `4d51231abe8b68c21ce896d0d2ac16865978c8ab` carries only the parent's one-argument GitHub observation correction and an independent master cleanup assertion. All production code, packages, 24 accepted suite files and the additional corpus are unchanged. The two focused native-presentation cases pass in 15.14 seconds and the complete cleanup-removal suite passes all six cases in 8.31 seconds on two fresh 0410 PostgreSQL fixtures. This does not claim the full parent workflow was rerun here. Current head `b28399babac72ba9db1c4a4ef882c5e87aded38c` has passing CI and Greptile 5/5 with no actionable findings. The first CI attempt lost runners: fourteen jobs explicitly received simultaneous shutdown signals, two reported lost runner communication, and two aggregate gates failed downstream. One failed-job retry on unchanged source passes. The underlying host shutdown cause remains unconfirmed; no code fix or extra retry is claimed. [CI run and attempts](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40819408528). No Ponytail verdict is present. ## Risks - A missing future producer can delay dormant-history discovery until restart. The audit names current producers. Independent SQL writers and other server processes remain outside the process-local signal contract. - Physical ownership and uncertain operations retain retries. Time alone does not authorize taking workspace ownership. No provider turn or unsafe archive retry is added. - The recovery owner remains authoritative if state changes after discovery. Terminal UI status does not authorize resource destruction or accepted-result replay. - The partial index adds matching-row write/storage cost. It builds concurrently through the existing restart-safe migration runner. - This proves the changed worker becomes quiet. It does not prove host suspension, external wake coverage, or fleet cost savings. Other sleep migrations remain. This slice still requires fresh current-head CI and reviews. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning and code-execution tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add opt-in Coordinator workspace for chat, tasks, and decisions (#17983)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/147/changes/paperclip/147 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People coordinate work through conversations, tasks, and requests for input. > - These surfaces must share task state and preserve the context of each decision. > - The existing workspace makes people switch surfaces to follow that context. > - This pull request adds an optional Coordinator workspace with linked conversations, tasks, documents, and decisions. > - Each person can enable it in Settings > Experimental and return to the classic workspace. > - The benefit is a coherent path from a request to an assigned task and reviewed work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** UI, server, shared contracts, and database. **Problem or motivation** People need a consistent way to start tasks from agent conversations, answer questions, review work, and return to the source context. Decisions and task state must agree across these surfaces. **Proposed solution** Add a personal, default-off workspace experiment. Keep one conversation per agent. Add task proposals, compact task and decision cards, contextual document panels, and a Needs You queue with search, filters, sorting, grouping, and history. **Alternatives considered** Replacing the classic workspace for everyone would remove the opt-out path. Keeping separate decision state in each surface would create conflicting answers. This change uses the existing canonical task and interaction records instead. **Roadmap alignment** This supports the existing agent chat, task management, and human review capabilities. It is an experimental presentation choice. The user requested this isolated implementation after design review. No Discord discussion is claimed. ## What Changed - Add per-person workspace preferences, a default-off setting, and an additive migration. - Add Coordinator navigation, pinned destinations, task lists, agent switching, and contextual panels. - Link task suggestions and creation to the source conversation. Default new task ownership to the current agent unless the user specifies another owner. - Share pending questions, decision receipts, exact review targets, and history across tasks, chat, and Needs You. - Preserve task access, assignment authorization, revision binding, and required output review gates. - Add compact document links, relative timestamps, composer controls, and reduced-motion support for task and decision transitions. - Add component stories, regression coverage, and capability-map documentation. ## Verification - Final head: `4b839aae1e314bd7e8635a766f1d205ff1c03ba6`, based on master `8bc051245f77a47bee0f8ba45896b8bfa5922e0a`. Verified October 29, 2026 at 00:10 UTC: **MERGEABLE, 56 checks passed, four conditional skips, no pending or failed checks**. [Current CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40790639688) passed without a rerun on this head. - Fresh Greptile **5/5**, zero new comments and zero open review threads; Superagent passed with no suspicious changes. [Checks](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17983/checks). - Local workspace typecheck/build passed after the latest rebase. The final account-read patch passed UI typecheck/build and all 12 related preference/settings tests, including a delayed real-client request across account changes. Earlier scoped checks cover review deduplication/replay, decision deep links, cross-surface state, access boundaries, and migration replay. - Local database/browser rechecks after the latest rebase were limited by exhausted macOS shared-memory IDs: `initdb` failed before database creation. The local run passed 31 UI/snapshot tests and skipped 24 database tests; those skips and the blocked local browser start are not claimed as passes. The independent Linux CI database and browser checks passed. No running dev database or host setting was changed. - Upstream migration 0403 is preserved. Preferences and durable review retry aliases are generated as replay-safe migrations `0404_tense_silver_sable.sql` and `0405_harsh_avengers.sql`; five newest snapshots are retained. Every detected conflict was rebased and pushed before waiting for CI/review, as requested. - The PR is unmerged. The active master ruleset still requires code-owner approval for the changed Paperclip skill; no approval or rule change was performed. <details> <summary>Earlier verification failures, integration history, and evidence</summary> These entries preserve prior checkpoints and failures; the current acceptance result is above. - Focused UI and server checks from the isolated build are recorded in the implementation plan. - Browser checks covered the opt-in shell, navigation, task/document links, and decision card states. No new live provider trial is claimed for this handoff. - Current acceptance head: `4b839aae1e314bd7e8635a766f1d205ff1c03ba6`, rebased onto master `8bc051245` immediately after its GitHub review-repair migration took 0403. Preferences are generated as idempotent `0404_tense_silver_sable.sql`, preserving upstream SQL/journal/snapshot history and five newest snapshots. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the immediate lease-protected push. Scott's updated instruction is to rebase and push every conflict resolution first, without waiting for CI or Greptile; verification follows the push. - The final reviewed feature tree was consolidated for repeatable single-commit rebases. The complete previous commit history remains reachable through local recovery ref `codex/coordinator-recovery-before-rebase-20261028` (resolved snapshot `0e1bbdf4e`). The actual rebase completed, and its tree hash exactly matches that resolved snapshot. The force-with-lease required the known remote head `0e6ef7c44`, protecting against concurrent branch changes. No PR merge or permission/runner setting change occurred. Fresh CI/review are in progress for the current head. - `2001132fa` received Greptile 5/5 with one nonblocking account-switch read finding. Current head detaches path-coalesced preference GETs and disables HTTP caching, retaining React Query's account-scoped sharing. A delayed real-client GET regression proves account B can load its saved choice before account A responds, and A's late response only updates A's cache. Preference/settings tests 12/12 and UI typecheck passed; its review thread is resolved. Fresh current-head CI/reviews are pending. The prior CI chat shard 3 ended with “The operation was canceled” and no assertion failure ([job 123171595631](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40789688333/job/123171595631), `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-chat3.log`); no code/timeout change is attributed to that cancellation. - `843e823b4` reached fresh Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads and Superagent pass. All browser tests including the repaired YAML shard passed, and 54 checks passed. General server shard 9 ended with “The operation was canceled” and no failed assertion; its test step was marked cancelled (job [123164350893](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40787501761/job/123164350893), log `/tmp/pr17983-843e-server9.log`). A single unchanged-head rerun was started after the workflow completed, but master moved while it ran. A local nested-clone check timed out in its 30-second database-startup hook and then failed cleanup before the 20 database cases ran; this is retained as a local verification limit (`/tmp/pr17983-843e-nested-clone-check.log`), not claimed as a pass or proof of the CI cancellation cause. - Following Scott's instruction, the new conflict was rebased and pushed immediately without waiting for that rerun. Upstream's `0403_natural_cerise.sql` is preserved; regenerated preferences and retry-alias migrations are `0404_tense_silver_sable.sql` and `0405_harsh_avengers.sql`, replay-safe with five newest snapshots retained. The YAML helper conflict combines upstream's click and header behavior with the editor-selection guard and injected regression. Recovery ref `codex/coordinator-recovery-843e823b4` preserves pre-rebase work. Current head is MERGEABLE. Full workspace typecheck/build passed; UI and snapshot checks passed 31 tests, but 24 database tests were skipped by the local support probe, and the local browser server could not initialize PostgreSQL. A direct disposable `initdb` diagnostic established the host limitation: `could not create shared memory segment: No space left on device` (`shmget`, shared-memory IDs exhausted, not disk space). No dev database or host setting was changed. Diagnostics: `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-initdb-probe.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-db-probe.log`; checks: `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-tests.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-browser.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-types.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-2001132-build.log`. These local skipped/blocked checks are not claimed as passes; fresh CI on independent runners is in progress. - `d18f683cd` reached fresh Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads and Superagent pass, but [E2E shard 7](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40785966243/job/123159719925) failed parsing an Advanced YAML clipboard read beginning with “Skip to Main Content.” The log is retained at `/tmp/pr17983-d18f-e2e7.log`. Current head hardens the test helper to verify editor focus and selection, clear stale clipboard content, and require the YAML header at the start of a fresh copy before parsing. Saved-state assertions and timeouts are unchanged. All six Advanced YAML browser journeys passed on a disposable local instance (41.0s); the exact lost-response journey also passed with a one-time injected surrounding-page copy, verifying rejection/reacquisition (17.6s). The precise browser focus/clipboard timing in CI remains unproven; the observed invalid-read path is now guarded and deterministically exercised. Logs: `/tmp/pr17983-yaml-clipboard-scope-browser.log`, `/tmp/pr17983-yaml-clipboard-injected-browser.log`. Fresh current-head CI and reviews are pending. - `19e6dcb0b` passed Superagent and Greptile 5/5, with one nonblocking deep-link finding. Current head preserves attention links using `?decisionId=`: the requested pending decision is rendered even beyond the first 40 cards, focused and scrolled into view, then only that parameter is consumed so later refreshes do not refocus. Other URL parameters remain. Needs You tests 10/10 and UI typecheck passed; its review thread is resolved. The preceding post-rebase regression run passed 45/45 tests. Fresh current-head CI/reviews are pending. - `6d772b7cc` reached Greptile 5/5 with zero comments/open threads and Superagent pass. While 32 checks had passed, master moved and caused a documentation conflict in `maps/feature-map/onboarding.md`. Rebased immediately, preserving both onboarding paragraphs. The complete four-commit branch was pushed as `19e6dcb0b` before waiting on CI/review, per Scott's instruction. A transient Git index lock interrupted the first continue; the command sequence briefly pushed intermediate `34e298c07`, then the completed rebase was immediately pushed. All feature and security/retry fixes are present; local recovery ref `codex/coordinator-recovery-6d772b7cc` preserves the pre-rebase history. The only tree differences from that ref are upstream's two smoke-test files and the combined documentation paragraph. GitHub reports MERGEABLE. Fresh current-head verification is in progress; prior-head review results are not current acceptance. - `21efa3120` passed Superagent but Greptile scored 4/5 for a valid retry-key persistence bug: an acknowledged duplicate key could reopen a resolved review. Current head adds an additive, replay-safe `0404_light_swarm.sql` migration for indexed, task-scoped aliases from acknowledged retry keys to the canonical interaction. Alias registration and retry lookup occur under the existing task lock; payload/actor mismatch still conflicts, and each canonical review permits at most 100 aliases. Original and acknowledged keys replay the terminal result rather than creating a new gate. Five newest migration snapshots are retained. Service/routes tests 165/165 passed; final quality review plus migration replay/snapshot checks 25/25 passed; server typecheck passed. The P1 thread is resolved in code; fresh current-head reviews and CI are pending. - `69c2c7543` passed 55 checks and Greptile 5/5 with no open Greptile findings, but Superagent check [123140675812](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17983/checks?check_run_id=123140675812) correctly flagged unbounded pending quality-card creation. Current head fixes that under the existing task-row lock: equivalent requests with fresh idempotency keys reuse the pending card; conflicting requests for an unresolved deliverable return the existing interaction ID; pending cards are capped at ten per task across all reviewers. Distinct outputs remain independent, and already-answered items in a partially pending batch can receive a fresh review. Added real-database concurrency, cross-card duplicate, partial-answer, and hard-cap regressions. Quality review 22/22 tests and final server typecheck passed; earlier service/routes 163/163 tests passed before the final partial-answer refinement. One added assertion initially expected a service HTTP error, but duplicate keys are rejected earlier by the existing shared schema; the assertion now verifies that validation. Fresh current-head CI/reviews are pending; the action-required security result is not treated as passed. - `c9c575e5f` completed all 56 checks successfully with four conditional skips, Greptile 5/5, and Superagent pass. Its two P2 review findings are fixed in the current head: independently bound quality approvals now each remain visible in attention; changing/clearing URL-backed assignee/status filters updates the URL and survives task navigation. Both review threads are resolved. Regression evidence: attention service 34/34 tests passed, CoordinatorTasks 20/20 passed, UI and server typechecks and the full workspace build passed on `69c2c7543`. The first new UI test run caught an assertion racing React Router's transition; waiting for the navigation before asserting passes without weakening the navigation/remount checks. These older-head green checks are not claimed for the new fix commit. - Preceding `0e6ef7c44` completed all 56 checks successfully with four conditional skips, fresh Greptile 5/5 and no open findings, and passed Superagent. A fifth migration-metadata collision arrived before the final Runner job finished. Those green results are preserved as prior-head evidence, not current acceptance. - Previous fully verified migration head: `0e6ef7c44696a377f35e69521b93587576374bd0`, integrating master `f8226b051` after the fourth migration-number collision. Master added terminal GitHub-response migration 0401 while the final native check ran; upstream 0401 SQL/journal/snapshot is preserved unchanged, and preferences are generated as idempotent `0402_yielding_blink.sql` on top. Exactly the five newest snapshots remain. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the push. All 1,155 relevant migration/review/interaction/native-execution/remote-assets tests, workspace typecheck/build, migration guards and whitespace checks pass. Fresh exact-head CI/Greptile/Superagent are pending. - Immediately preceding head `36c67cf03` completed all 56 checks successfully with four conditional skips, fresh Greptile 5/5 and no open findings, plus passed Superagent security. No retry was needed for that head's CI. Master advanced and introduced only a migration-metadata conflict while its final native check ran, so that green result does not establish acceptance of the current integration. Four consecutive collisions (0398, 0399, 0400, 0401) during verification are retained as concrete integration churn; a brief pause of competing migration merges was requested, without assuming it happened or changing any repo setting. The PR has not been merged. - Prior fully verified head: `36c67cf03`, on the clean `30059c0ed` integration of master `efd65c112`. The last Greptile P2 is fixed: Needs attention retains the participant-agent scope through authoritative server membership queries for each pending task, including historical participation when another agent currently owns the task. It does not approximate participation with current assignment or enumerate every company task. The actual view-switch regression and all 31 focused task/routing/collection tests, UI typecheck/build, token gates and whitespace checks pass. Greptile completed a fresh 5/5 review on this exact head (review 19) with zero new comments and no open review threads. CI and Superagent remain in progress; no current-head CI failure has been reported. - Head `30059c0ed` received Greptile 5/5 with that one nonblocking participant finding, now fixed. Superagent passed that head. Current-base integration restored the ephemeral RunsOn fleet after a superseded workflow retained queued aggregate jobs: normal cancellation was insufficient; the single force-cancel request was interrupted but readback confirmed that obsolete run cancelled and current CI began on the trusted fleet. No cancellation retry or runner/security/workflow changes were made. Its partial CI was superseded by the necessary participant fix and is not current acceptance. - Previous compatibility/base-sync head: `30059c0ededc0eab4e04e8299a884f36db8b292f`, integrating master `efd65c112` and the Inbox/workspace compatibility fixes. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the push. Coordinator keeps Inbox standalone under More without rewriting the instance's Combined Inbox preference; opting out restores that preference. Saved merged-Inbox URLs resolve to their original owner, task status presets remain usable, and canonical repeated `workspace` parameters retain scoped, deduplicated pagination (including Needs attention). All 192 broader routing/Inbox/sidebar/privacy/review tests and the final 16 task-page tests pass, as do workspace typecheck/build, token gates and whitespace checks. The two review threads are resolved. Fresh exact-head CI, Greptile and Superagent results are pending. - The preceding `d5b9be5bd` remained mergeable but its CI routing gate intentionally fell back to GitHub-hosted runners: “stacked base merge commit does not contain the current base branch.” All 45 downstream jobs stayed queued. Current master was merged cleanly to refresh the pinned base; no runner/security settings or workflow logic were changed. Greptile scored that preceding head 4/5 with the two compatibility findings fixed here. Its automatic Superagent scan was inconclusive at checkout; the documented retry was still pending when superseded. Those results do not establish acceptance of this current head. - Previous approval/migration head: `d5b9be5bd3b8d6b0437e42bf48138377f34fa67d`, integrating master `ba5bba86d` and the stale-output approval correction. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the push. The fresh P1 finding is fixed: every submitted item now validates and locks its bound output inside the resolution transaction, whether or not it carries a required-quality-review binding. Real database regressions verify that an advanced document revision or deleted attachment refuses the entire batch without recording approvals, and current ordinary output reviews still resolve. All 272 combined migration/review/interaction tests pass; workspace typecheck/build passed. Fresh exact-head Greptile and CI are pending. The automatic Superagent scan ended inconclusive at checkout; one documented on-demand retry is pending. These are explicit verification limits, not passed security results. The P1 thread is resolved. - Master consumed the next migration slot three times during this verification pass: confirmation recovery took 0398, continuation recovery took 0399, and GitHub acknowledgement recovery took 0400. Each upstream SQL/journal/snapshot is preserved unchanged. Preferences are now generated as idempotent `0401_white_lenny_balinger.sql` from upstream 0400; exactly five snapshots remain, and replay coverage locates this migration by table content. This is recorded concurrent integration churn, not a claim that older green results apply to the latest base. - Head `ed3b68da9` fixed the two history/URL findings with 26 focused regression tests, server/UI typechecks, workspace build and token gates passing. Greptile then scored that head 4/5 with the stale-output P1 corrected in the current head. Its partial CI is superseded, not counted as current acceptance. - Previous filter-fix head: `ed3b68da9`, based on the `8458d39d9` merge of master `063cfd438`. The two fresh Greptile findings are fixed: history outcome filters now match recorded per-item verdicts in SQL before pagination (mixed reviews remain in both applicable outcomes), and same-page URL assignee changes/back/forward navigation update that filter without clearing independent filters. All 26 focused database/navigation/collection tests, server/UI typechecks, workspace build, token gates and whitespace checks pass. The two review threads are resolved. Fresh exact-head CI, Greptile and Superagent results are pending. - The `8458d39d9` migration integration also passed all 328 targeted migration/interaction/confirmation tests, workspace typecheck/build and Superagent security scan. Greptile scored that head 4/5 with the two functional gaps fixed in the current head; those prior-head checks are not current acceptance. - Migration integration head: `8458d39d9721f4cb312c2390070a0609f8cddd1a`, integrating master `063cfd43813cabf18417605fb9eefb9aacf95c8d`. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the push. Master advanced twice during this conflict-resolution pass: first its confirmation-recovery migration took 0398, then its continuation-recovery migration took 0399. Both upstream migrations and journal entries remain unchanged; Coordinator preferences are now generated as idempotent `0400_sad_guardian.sql` from upstream's latest snapshot. Exactly the five newest snapshots remain. The replay regression now locates the table migration by content instead of hardcoding a renumbered filename. - All 328 targeted question/review/confirmation/migration tests passed again after the second merge. Workspace typecheck/build and fresh exact-head CI/reviews are in progress. The preceding `0c46f46d6` passed workspace typecheck/build and Superagent security scan, but was superseded because master consumed migration 0399 while those checks ran. That prior-head result is not acceptance of the current head. No production settings or runner/security permissions were changed, and the PR has not been merged. - Previous integration head: `0c46f46d6f2b23417ab872ce3cb6ff2673647287`, integrating master `287b04d72f1b9fca1412e05435c75b8302ba0710`. GitHub reports MERGEABLE after the push. The renewed conflicts were `0398_snapshot.json`, `_journal.json`, and the top imports in `issue-thread-interactions.ts`. Upstream's `0398` confirmation-recovery index and journal history are preserved unchanged; Coordinator preferences were regenerated as idempotent `0399_bouncy_miek.sql`, with replay coverage updated and exactly the five newest snapshots retained. Both terminal confirmation notifications and Coordinator task assignment/required review behavior are preserved. - All 328 targeted interaction/review/confirmation/migration tests pass, as do workspace typecheck, map validation and whitespace checks. The workspace build and fresh exact-head CI/Greptile/Superagent checks are pending. The first migration-generation attempt hit the sandbox's local IPC restriction before generating files; the unchanged authorized local generation completed successfully. Prior-head green checks below do not establish acceptance of this merge. - Previous acceptance head: `8b7dcf739ed15afc51351fdfa0e0e5fbc75ab788`, with master `1aa3a21ac` integrated and GitHub reporting MERGEABLE. Greptile completed a fresh 5/5 review on this exact head with zero new actionable findings and no open review threads. The [fresh CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40752864319) completed SUCCESS on attempt 2 at 19:40:08 UTC, including all eight E2E shards. Final completed check set: 55 succeeded, four conditional checks skipped, zero pending/queued/running checks, and one neutral/inconclusive Superagent scan. The auxiliary commitperclip review and isolated native Runner compilation/cache-reuse check both passed. This is not a claim that Superagent produced a passed security verdict. GitHub still reports MERGEABLE against current master `60b8089a44b4eaa37e627adbfdf2f130bda13335`. - Current-head E2E: all eight shards and the aggregate passed, including the previously failing YAML browser journey. Serialized server shard 9/9 failed: the protected YAML projection test exceeded its original 15-second timeout; its late update request then reached the next test's reset mock (the captured payload is the prior test's model/label update). All 88 tests in that exact unchanged file passed locally in 38.03 seconds, with no timeout or assertion changes. The original slow-request cause remains unproven. CI failure log: `/tmp/pr17983-8b7-serialized9.log`; local recovery: `/tmp/pr17983-adapter-yaml-repro.log`. The single bounded unchanged shard rerun passed, and the workflow completed SUCCESS. Rerun log: `/tmp/pr17983-8b7-serialized9-rerun.log`. The initial failure is retained; a passing retry does not establish its original slow-request cause. - Greptile scored preceding head `4873704be` 5/5 with one valid P2: opened task decision records missed company-scoped live invalidation. The current head uses the existing company decision prefix for resolution and effect-completion events, and resets private record payloads on access changes. Its thread is resolved. All 107 focused record/live-update tests, UI typecheck/build, token checks and whitespace checks pass. - CI on `4873704be` failed E2E shard 7/8 in the Advanced YAML lost-creation-response journey: its clipboard helper selected page text starting with “Skip to Main Content” instead of YAML. The exact unchanged journey passed in a disposable local browser instance (1 test, 17.1 seconds). No assertion, timeout or production behavior was weakened; the original failure cause remains unproven. Failure log: `/tmp/pr17983-487-e2e7.log`; local check: `/tmp/pr17983-agent-yaml-repro.log`. The full unchanged Advanced YAML browser suite also passed locally (6 tests, 37.8 seconds). Fresh current-head CI subsequently passed this journey and all other E2E shards. - Both the automatic and one supported on-demand Superagent scan on `4873704be` ended neutral/inconclusive: “Pinned PR scan merge-base checkout failed or timed out.” These do not count as a passed security verdict. The current head's automatic scan and one documented on-demand retry also returned the identical neutral checkout failure, with zero annotations or further diagnostics. This is an external scanner blocker, not a passed security verdict. No security settings or permissions were changed. - Recorded decision links now render and focus the full source-task record in both Classic and Coordinator, including recorded choice, submitted inputs, and the existing effect-result resolver. Fresh terminal records take precedence over older open-decision cache entries. Context and account checks keep mismatched or inaccessible records out of the DOM; no decision-history tab was added to tasks or chat. The shared company live-run feed now drives live-only filtering, including ended runs and terminal tasks with stale run entries. All 213 focused tests, UI typecheck/build, token and whitespace checks pass; the final focus follow-up passed all 188 task-detail tests and UI typecheck. The first new navigation test failed because its test host omitted company context; the host was corrected before the passing run. - Previous integration head: `375c5e89516705050d94bab99336212841b2e6e1` merges master `1aa3a21ac` after four additional upstream commits. The sole conflict was competing imports in `server/src/services/issues.ts`; both quality-review policy and inbound wake-notice notifications are preserved. The PR-specific review import now sits beside execution-policy imports instead of the frequently changing first line. GitHub mergeability is rechecked after the push. - On the combined master tree, workspace typecheck/build, all 153 affected UI tests, map validation, and whitespace checks pass. Four server suites passed 77 tests; the fifth suite's module-import hook timed out while broad verification was running. Its unchanged isolated run passed all 41 tests in 7.2 seconds with the original timeout. This records recovery without claiming the original import-timeout cause is proven. CI on `375c5e895` passed every substantive job, including all eight E2E shards and Superagent; Greptile found the two functional gaps fixed in the current head. A short-lived `669d90876` commit added the main fixes before the focused navigation follow-up. - Immediately preceding head `9d9737b49` completed all 56 checks successfully with four conditional skips, Greptile 5/5 and no open findings, plus a successful Superagent scan. The signoff E2E shard passed on its single accepted rerun; its initial cancellation/timing failure is retained below. Master moved again while those checks ran, requiring this final integration rather than treating the prior head's green result as current acceptance. - Previous head `9d9737b496911a6054d0ea22d1b42b28b115e9ab` includes master `d30c8f42b842327ee1c18c41a2efd6ba623da5cd`; that head was subsequently conflicted by moving master. The master merge preserved durable account-bound writes and Coordinator UX. Workspace typecheck/build, 416 focused UI tests, and 142 affected comment-route tests passed. A stable full UI run on preceding head `938ad1665` passed all 9,833 tests across 836 files; its final full workspace build also passed. - Greptile found nested proposal project inheritance and Classic bound-revision links on `91be74952`. Both were fixed with 142 interaction-route tests, 113 focused UI tests, and UI/server typechecks. Its next review identified a valid draft-preservation bug in the new Classic loading UI. Head `9d9737b49` keeps loading/error notices outside editors and annotations while preserving dirty drafts; 115 focused review UI tests pass, including pending/failed revision loads and continued draft editing. All related threads are resolved. Greptile completed a fresh 5/5 review of `9d9737b496911a6054d0ea22d1b42b28b115e9ab` with no open findings. - CI on `938ad1665` exposed an integration regression with the newly merged durable startup saves: the personal preference gate blocked the task page before its first session lookup. The guarded title editor now mounts while that lookup is pending, with presentation-specific tools still gated. All 216 affected component tests pass. The unchanged five-test `disconnect-write-recovery.spec.ts` browser suite passes against a newly launched disposable local-trusted PostgreSQL instance on port 33219, including the exact failed startup-save journey. No live provider, hosted authentication or production proof is claimed. The helper-owned test server exited and the port has no listener. UI typecheck, built-browser assets, token and whitespace checks pass. - Initial durable-write merge tests found duplicate imports and unscoped draft fixtures, fixed before 416 focused tests passed. A sandbox typecheck could not create its IPC socket; the supported rerun passed. The first revision-link test used a wrong Return to latest button assertion, corrected before the 113-test pass. The startup E2E reproduction initially still failed because an outer shell gate also blocked the page; the subsequent fix passed all five cases without changing the test or its timeouts. A focused loading-header assertion initially used an incorrect fixture title; correcting it preceded the 216-test pass. These failures remain recorded. - Earlier routing gates fell back to GitHub-hosted runners while master was moving or conflicted. Superseded queued runs were cancelled, then the `938ad1665` routing gate explicitly selected the ephemeral RunsOn fleet. Its CI actively executed and completed most tests; only the diagnosed startup E2E shard and aggregate failed, alongside the valid Greptile finding. Auxiliary GitHub-hosted workflows also completed successfully on earlier heads, so queueing alone is not an administrative blocker. Fresh [CI on `9d9737b49`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40744012678) is the acceptance target; the previously failing startup E2E shard now passes. A different signoff E2E shard failed during executor resubmission when its fixture run was cancelled as `issue_continuation_waiting_on_review`. The exact unchanged journey passed locally (1 test, 46 seconds), and the preceding head with identical server/signoff code passed that CI shard. This supports a bounded rerun but does not establish the timing failure's root cause. After the workflow finished, GitHub accepted one rerun of that failed shard and its dependent aggregate; both passed, completing all checks on that head. The failure log is retained at `/tmp/pr17983-9d9737-e2e7.log` and the local reproduction at `/tmp/pr17983-signoff-repro.log`. No assertion or timeout was weakened. - On the first merge, full workspace typecheck/build, all 9,622 UI tests, 267 tests across seven affected server suites, two migration checks, map validation, token gates, and the PR diff whitespace check passed. Greptile then found duplicate local task-search filtering and lost completed item-review detail. Both are fixed, with 42 passing focused UI tests and passing UI typecheck/build. - A subsequent Greptile review found attachment confirmations without working links and mobile history without a visible host. Confirmation layouts now derive the authenticated immutable-content endpoint from the attachment ID, and Needs You uses the existing full-screen mobile sheet. All 119 focused tests pass, including missing/stale display URLs, both review layouts, and both mobile history entry buttons. UI typecheck/build and token checks pass. Full workspace typecheck/build also pass after the second master merge. - Greptile gave head |

fix(server): wake GitHub terminal responses from committed changes (#17661)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/210/changes/paperclip/210 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip coordinates agent work and presents results in chat. > - GitHub acknowledgements already persist the response action and provider receipt. > - A terminal run can still owe a final response after acknowledgement. > - Periodic maintenance searches those rows even when no relevant state changed. > - Committed run, issue, presentation, lease and publication changes identify when recovery can advance. > - The owner should recover from those events and real deadlines, then become quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17656, which is merged. This existing terminal-response slice targets master. **Problem:** A saved GitHub response can remain nonfinal while its run, native presentation, publication or source is unresolved. Removing maintenance without covering those producers loses recovery. Polling settled history keeps the tenant active. **Expected behavior:** Committed supported changes wake the terminal owner. It reconstructs existing actions, preserves provider authority and pending publication ownership, waits at saved deadlines where needed, and becomes quiet after settlement. ## What Changed - Register terminal GitHub response work with the shared scoped deadline coordinator, using existing action/delivery/publication/run rows. - Notify response availability from supported run milestones, native identity, recovery resolution, issue updates and tree/workspace restoration writes. Preserve outer transaction commit/rollback. - Keep GitHub response interpretation in its platform owner. Use the bounded run projection for both direct authorization and scheduling, including native presentation guards and deliberate passive outcomes. - Retain the existing publication lease, markers, source/principal checks and final receipt precedence. A publication owner or uncertain outcome keeps its existing authority; the worker does not replay it. - Remove only recurring terminal-response recovery, preserving the manual path and neighbouring duties. Add no table or scheduler service. - Regenerate the original sparse terminal-work index as `0401_yummy_ultimates.sql`, concurrently and idempotently through the existing top-level migration runner. Preserve all prior SQL/journal entries and the five newest snapshots. ## Verification Published head: `88a209e28b969b5229e9a621aeddfd3cbae9b0cd`, integrated with landed #17656 (`ba5bba86dcdde32b14d4d7dec1b51898e5f6f22d`) and master `52b86c2032a189b0ea259c5b0cb7158b07ef788c`. - **74 distinct current cases pass:** 17 terminal-response lifecycle/producer cases (1,721 other chat cases skipped), all six queued-comment consumption regressions for the new upstream query optimization, all 30 heartbeat completion cases, all eight real/unit issue-tree control cases and all 13 startup cases. Database build, server typecheck/build, module boundaries and four fresh migrations through 0401 pass. - The earlier **304-case** prepared-parent matrix passes at `aa72f32641b2e2c680342cd49477272349aca9db`: all 253 GitHub workflow cases, 30 completion cases, eight issue-tree cases and 13 startup cases. It retains that revision scope. Repeated cases are not added to the current 74. - The terminal matrix covers finalized-history quiet, deleted Board sources, pending presentation/passive outcomes, outer rollback/commit, paused/new runs, restart/drain/standby, committed native identity, lease waits, full-page unrelated history, uncertain publication ownership and tree/workspace/exhausted-recovery producers. - A populated 0400 database upgrades to 0401 with all 399 prior migration receipts identical, exactly one added, and none added on replay. The terminal index is valid/ready on fresh and upgraded databases. Its SQL matches the original draft after whitespace normalization; generation keeps snapshots 0397–0401. - Normal integration `3c8339a541bf68bc9957b9d5a8df80d3a7c3452d` preserves the complete 24-path owned binary patch and all five new master paths. The landed parent tree also equals the previously published parent tree byte for byte. Both normal merge parents and the exact composition tree are checked. No force push or rebase occurs. - [The owner audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/88a209e28b969b5229e9a621aeddfd3cbae9b0cd/doc/plans/2026-10-25-github-terminal-response-sleep-audit.md#acceptance-on-the-landed-github-parent-and-current-master) preserves the original producer, quietness, failure-isolation, skipped-suite and presentation-wait results with their scopes. Current passes do not erase earlier failures or turn skips into passes. - The audit-only follow-up leaves all owned source/test/migration hashes unchanged. **Fresh exact-head CI and Greptile 5/5 with no actionable findings remain required.** No full local repository suite, live GitHub tenant or deployed sleep result is claimed. ## Risks - Process-local notifications cover supported application writers and shared pools. Independent SQL writers and other replicas gain no new wake guarantee. - Native terminal status alone does not authorize fallback publication. Pending presentation and existing publication ownership remain separate obligations. - Stop can leave an in-flight provider request settling; admission fences stop a subsequent request. Unknown outcomes retain their existing recovery rules. - Index creation can take time on large histories. Concurrent/idempotent migration and existing replay recovery remain in charge. - Worker quiet does not establish host/database suspension. Cloud alarm coverage and sleep admission remain unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, using reasoning, repository inspection, code execution and real PostgreSQL tests. fix(server): wake inbound queue notices from committed changes (#17647)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat users receive a notice when accepted input waits for execution. > - Periodic publication maintenance scans those receipts even when nothing changes. > - Admission, cancellation, source removal, and authority changes already define when a notice can change. > - Existing action, receipt, publication, and provider-link rows preserve that work across restart. > - This PR gives ordinary inbound queue notices a commit-driven owner using the shared scheduler. > - Settled notices stop querying while unfinished batches and contention retain recovery. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description This ordinary inbound-notice slice follows merged #17895 and now targets master. Related extraction: #16187. Failed-run retry notice projection remains a separate following slice (#17649); its two shared receipt-writer notifications move forward here because ordinary input can attach to those receipt owners. **What happened?** Publication maintenance scans accepted input to project queued, not-started, and removed-source notices. Empty scans keep touching the database. Its cursor also loses PostgreSQL timestamp precision, so a full page of suppressed candidates can repeat. **Expected behavior** Committed changes should wake the notice owner. The worker should reconstruct saved candidates after restart and stop scanning when settled. It must retain a wake across drain, failed selection, contention, and a commit during reconciliation. **Steps to reproduce** Start an otherwise idle instance with chat history. Observe the ordinary inbound notice scan in periodic publication maintenance. For the cursor defect, retain a full page of denied candidates with microsecond timestamps before an eligible notice. ## What Changed - Register an ordinary inbound-notice owner with the existing delivery coordinator and scheduler. Bound each pass to 100 candidates, preserve precise continuation cursors and earlier-page contention, and reset scoped discovery after committed changes. - Notify from real admission, failed action settlement, source removal, task/tree/agent/budget/company cancellation, signed Slack Stop, and deferred queue cancellation/failure. Preserve pending-status and absent-run guards so concurrent promotion wins. - Cover task privacy/grants, project membership/visibility and current authority through their persistence owners. Keep receipt ownership, current authorization, provider policy and closed notice text in the existing chat service. - Cover shared retry-owned receipts through the existing durable authorization callback and a notifying transaction around conditional denial retirement. These small producer fixes already exist in #17649; no per-caller recovery wrappers are added. Retain its matching budget-refusal fixture correction. - Remove only ordinary notices from periodic maintenance. Preserve the separate failed-retry pass at 50 and keep the explicit combined manual API. - Preserve timestamp precision, fairness, restart, drain/resume, rollback and quiet behavior. Add two real producer transaction regressions and update the audit. Add no storage or scheduler infrastructure. ## Verification Current publication head: `41f7e2c9e351efa6cfa5ef699c0e69df7425012b`, after normal merge of master `d30c8f42b842327ee1c18c41a2efd6ba623da5cd` (#17960). The integration preserves both complete added/removed patches, all non-overlap upstream blobs/deletions, and task-before-comment lock order before the notice source lock/intent. Full binary identity is not claimed for the overlapping files. The final follow-up changes acceptance documentation only. - **202 distinct combined-master cases pass on `1720b685d9d5fb9cb4377223fdaa0a9fae2aff9c`:** 148 across the real PostgreSQL receipt concurrency and two comment route suites, plus 54 notice/FIFO/producer cases (1,598 skipped). Current server typechecking/build and module boundaries pass; all 21 owned source/test hashes are unchanged after the documentation follow-up. - The earlier CI voice-reconstruction quiet assertion failed once after 105 fetches. All 15 voice lifecycle cases pass unchanged locally; no assertions or production code were relaxed and no CI retry was used. The original failure remains in the audit, and current-head full CI must pass. - **Earlier restoration repair (head `28c898e93504318056d7a6ab2bbc5eafa6b639ae`): 126 distinct selected cases pass (54 ordinary-notice/producer cases with 1,598 skipped, plus 72 separate Retry/budget cases with 1,580 skipped).** Fix the blocking [restored input stays silent](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17647#discussion_r4404007181) finding. A failed Retry's earlier receipt wake can drain before `releaseUnadmittedTaskRetryInput` restores ordinary receipts in a later transaction. The restoring transaction now awaits the existing company/task notification before its guarded write. - The new causal regression builds a durable unadmitted failed-Retry owner, uses the real input-claim owner, consumes an earlier committed wake, and proves two minutes of worker quiet with no notice. The real release transaction then restores the ordinary row, emits intent/commit settlement, and reactivates the coordinator to create its queued notice. It fails before the hook with the restored row visible but no intent. This is real PostgreSQL producer/consumer boundary proof with seeded Retry-refusal state; the separate compatibility selection exercises existing supported GitHub Retry flows. It is not a claimed complete public-request failure walkthrough. - **Earlier discovery-repair acceptance (revision `4a713edfa06b9d3dcc0e81e900006fbdb973b2d9`): 267 distinct selected cases pass:** 142 complete cancellation/app/admission consumer cases, 53 ordinary-notice cases, and 72 separate retry/budget cases. The selections skip 1,598 and 1,579 other cases. The final master integration leaves this complete patch byte-identical; the new master paths concern provider workspace/session reuse and E2E reports. - Fix the valid P2 [discovery rereads denied history](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17647#discussion_r4386889825), despite the previous head's 5/5 summary. Task hints now need zero discovery SQL; company/startup discovery returns DISTINCT company/task identifiers with one query. Bounded projection still checks current authority and candidates. Three real database regressions with 250 denied actions and a second company fail before the fix and pass afterward, checking actual query and returned-row counts. Broad SQL may still inspect candidate history; no constant database-cost claim is made. - Both new producer tests fail before their fixes and pass afterward. One observes intent before a callback-owned receipt write and settlement after outer commit. The other uses real heartbeat admission/recovery and a PostgreSQL row lock to prove exact company/task intent exists before conditional denial retirement; the outside connection still sees deferred status until commit. - The reader can select a retry-owned deferred receipt for later ordinary input, and receipt resolution follows its owner. Disabling coalescing on the retry's own request does not exclude that later path. The two transferred notifications close the actual writer gaps; current authorization remains enforced by existing consumers. This is producer/transaction proof, not a claimed complete mixed-ingress walkthrough. - The moved callback exposes an old test mock that authorized against the root DB. The existing #17649 fixture correction authorizes and writes in one transaction; original requester, comment, skipped-status and budget assertions remain. Both the initial invalid lock fixture and the corrected missing-intent failures are preserved in the audit. - Updated shared dependency build, server typechecking/build and module-boundary checks pass. Because master also changed agent configuration, upgrade admission and runner contracts, the same 264 cases were rerun on combined revision `875a6ee8d211cba7f0499aace7fcea7f6880c4a2` with new isolated databases. Repeated checks are not 528 different tests. Tests under `src/__tests__` were executed separately from production typechecking. - [Current acceptance and preserved failure ledger](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/41f7e2c9e351efa6cfa5ef699c0e69df7425012b/doc/plans/2026-10-25-inbound-wake-notices-sleep-audit.md#shared-retry-receipt-producer-gap-resolved-october-28) records current scope, exact commands, actual fixtures, source hashes and remaining limits. Earlier baseline/full-suite counts retain their original revision scope. - Server typechecking/build and module boundaries pass after the current restoration hook. The earlier combined-master compilation at `661f2f6da8c6c22cdcc25edccd57502ee6fa8c4b` retains its original scope. - **Current exact-head CI is green and Greptile is 5/5.** The old head's review error is not a pass. No full local repository matrix, live provider tenant, external alarm, physical suspension or savings claim is made. Following notice duties retain their separate owners. ### Final merge verification - Reviewed PR head remains `41f7e2c9e351efa6cfa5ef699c0e69df7425012b`: exact-head Greptile 5/5, all 55 check contexts clean, no unresolved review threads, and no Ponytail verdict present. - One Runner shard initially failed descriptor suspension and a five-second OpenCode fixture deadline. The same package passed on the preceding head. The first local attempt was invalid because required Rust fixture binaries were absent; after building them, all eight relevant cases pass with unchanged timeouts. One failed-job retry then passes 1,956 cases (four skipped). No source/assertion/time-budget change or second CI retry was used. - Current master `0e365768f032a472807b5720da8431f92d2f07ce` adds manual monitor and task-drain fixes. Its routes file overlaps but merges cleanly. Local normal-merge validation commit `2720b79c769cb609ad4d392512331e67b910ff3f` preserves both complete added/removed patches and every unrelated master blob/deletion. This is not raw binary identity for overlapping files. - **156 distinct cases pass on that exact combined tree:** all 102 monitor/drain/policy cases plus 54 notice cases (1,598 skipped). Types and build pass. An initial competing-cold-check run failed setup hooks (38 passed, two hook failures, 62 skipped); the same four suites pass alone with all original hook/test timeouts and assertions intact. The failed run remains recorded, not counted as full acceptance. - This merge proof changes no published source or review head. The protected pinned-head merge guard recomputes both patches and requires the exact tested master/tree/head, successful validation receipts and unchanged live merge gates. Previous acceptance counts retain their original revision scope; no local full-repository or deployed-sleep claim is made. Master then advanced to `75754ffb7af2b7ee7dce1e915a145faa82a8fb2a` with #17976 (five UI/e2e/map files only). The entire `server` and `packages` trees are identical to the validated composition. Both complete patches and all newly landed UI files are preserved in the final clean merge tree; the protected gate checks these exact source-root hashes and changed paths. No additional UI-test result is claimed. ## Risks - Missing a supported producer could delay a notice until restart. Tests cover real service and API producers; durable rows remain authoritative. Notifications cover supported application writers in the owning process, not arbitrary external SQL writers. - Privacy invalidation can affect descendants, so those changes use company scope. Ordinary admission and publication changes use task scope. Settled history causes no recurring scan. - Provider output remains subject to current authority and receipt ownership. A cancelled request without a visible queued notice does not acquire a new failure message. - This establishes worker quiet, not host or database suspension. Cloud alarms and conservative sleep gates do not change. Other maintenance remains in place. - Remaining stacked slices still need their own integration, review, and CI. This slice merges only under the user’s explicit campaign authorization after current-head gates pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository inspection and code execution tools. The exact serving variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): keep writes durable through temporary disconnects (#17960)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/123/changes/paperclip/123 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People save tasks, write documents, make decisions and send board messages. > - A disconnect can hide a response after the server accepts a write. > - Recovery must keep the original account, task and request key. > - The merged connection foundation in #15754 handles reads and shared outage state. > - This change adds bounded write recovery and explicit actions when recovery stops. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Temporary failures could lose edits, report accepted writes as failures, or require people to copy and send input again. A retry could target a newly selected task or account. Restoring attachments could create a second task. **Expected behavior** Keep the draft, its owner and its target. Retry only operations with a server contract that prevents duplicate writes. Verify uncertain results. Show conflicts and permanent failures, with an explicit resend or cancel action. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Save a task title during an outage, then open another task before recovery. 2. Restore a task creation that needs files, selecting those files in another order. 3. Lose a document or decision response, then interrupt the verification read. 4. Switch accounts while a create, upload or connected-channel publication is pending. 5. Type and erase a new-task draft before the first account lookup completes, then reopen it. This PR carries the write layer from #15769 and its review fixes. It targets master after #15754 merged. Related test cleanup #16952 already covers the unchanged copy-link toast test; this PR does not duplicate that work. ## What Changed - Add bounded autosave and submit jobs for supported writes, with pending, conflict and manual retry states. Retain admitted autosaves after navigation and preserve newer task revisions. - Keep each job with its original account, task and operation. First account resolution adopts admitted startup work; a later account change cancels old work. Remount inline and document editors when their owner or document subject changes. - Preserve task-creation keys and immutable request snapshots through file reattachment. Restore generated document keys before comparing reselected files. Reject changed requests instead of creating a second task. - Check the original account scope before creates and each upload. Save successful upload receipts before stopping on an account change. Identify attachments by content digest and metadata. - Verify uncertain document and decision results. Replay only plain, keyed comments automatically; combined reassignment, reopen and run-setting changes require receipt reconciliation or cancel. Settle each request once when a receipt races its retry. - Scope drafts and connected-channel publication reads to their owner. Keep unowned older records unread and unreplayed, with an explicit confirmed discard action after Activity inspection. Preserve typing through the first session lookup, keep erased text erased, and report browser persistence only when storage succeeds. - Wait for the first account lookup before sending startup status changes or decisions. Retry failed required lookups with a fixed limit and surface exhaustion to the original action. Preserve uncertain comment keys on account cancellation. Check the account generation before a comment retry calls its sender and again immediately before POST after asynchronous preparation. Retire only that request’s optimistic echo on completion. - Return an ordinary comment’s accepted same-company, same-task, same-user receipt before workspace reopening, task status changes or wakeups. Reused keys with changed text still conflict. Complete reference and activity records through the same finalizer for initial sends and accepted retries. It locks the task before its comment, matching task and company deletion, comment removal and tombstoning, rejects removed or tombstoned comments, repairs references and inserts a missing activity record in one transaction, and publishes after commit. - Remove reader-only record and comment-body size caps so accepted browser writes remain readable, including JSON-escaped comment requests in local and session storage. Update four existing Storybook fixtures to use owned draft keys. - Document the write contracts and add regression and real browser recovery coverage. - Add the exact reviewed-save recovery regression for both composer implementations and reloads. Align receipt completion, both comment deletion methods and company deletion with task deletion by locking tasks first. Cover real task and company deletion races. ## Verification - The exact reviewed-unknown-save regression fails in all four cases on original commit `1ed0af4186`. It passes with this PR for both composers, before and after reload. Cancel keeps the text and uploaded receipt. The retained draft sends, and the next message also sends. Run `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/ui ui/src/components/composer-recovery.test.tsx`. - The new real PostgreSQL task-deletion race fails with SQLSTATE `40P01` on parent commit `f3253a00c4`. The company-deletion race also fails with `40P01` on `e8cf0e02dd`. All six receipt tests pass after the final lock-order fixes. They cover company deletion, task deletion, comment removal, tombstoning, concurrent cross-task references and interrupted reference repair. Run `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-receipt-postgres.test.ts`. - The full UI run passed 9,656 of 9,659 tests across 816 files. Three cases failed under that run: two large-tree timeouts and one plugin-panel assertion. All 67 tests in those two files passed in an isolated rerun. These failures remain recorded; this does not claim a clean full UI run. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, token gates and map checks pass on the final change. The local full repository test command was started, then stopped when the delivery moved to this existing PR. Fresh PR CI must provide the full-suite gate. - A local Storybook walkthrough used the real rich editor. Cancel kept the restored text, Send cleared it after the simulated save, and a new draft enabled Send again. Storybook simulates submission; it is not staging acceptance. - Earlier verification on `f3253a00c4` recorded five browser journeys for title saves, cached-task offline recovery, startup recovery, accepted comment replay and session lookup failure. Those results remain prior-head evidence. No new staging deployment is claimed. - On `e8cf0e02dd`, all CI checks passed after one browser-shard rerun. Its first failure copied page text instead of YAML in an unrelated agent-configuration test. On final commit `35131d4380`, Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. The first CI attempt has two failures outside this diff: runner close-attachment suspension and scheduled-retry teardown. The scheduled-retry file passes all 14 tests in isolation; the isolated runner test still fails locally. The single standard CI rerun passed both jobs, and the aggregate verification gate passed. All CI checks are green on `35131d4380`; Apex is 5/5 on that same commit with no unresolved findings. ## Risks - Automatic replay requires server duplicate prevention or result verification. Uncertain combined mutations require receipt observation or cancel and a fresh intentional send. - Old unowned form drafts remain stored but are not assigned to an account. Unowned channel records can be retired after Activity inspection; this never cancels an accepted remote update. - Browser storage and hashing can be unavailable. Storage failure is reported honestly. Without a digest, replay can duplicate an upload rather than silently drop a selected file. - Detached autosaves remain bounded and check account ownership on each attempt. Conflicts or exhaustion retain the draft for explicit recovery. - No schema, credential or agent permission change is included. This PR does not claim staging deployment or original-task acceptance. ## Model Used Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`) produced the original implementation with tool use. OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, assisted with restoration, integration, verification and review fixes. This Codex session does not expose its exact serving model ID or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Amy (Opus) <claude@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> |

fix(server): wake chat lifecycle milestones from committed changes (#17606)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connected chats show safe notices when a run starts, waits, finishes, or fails. > - A recurring scan projected these notices even when no eligible work existed. > - Eligibility depends on committed run state, conversation lineage, and current authority. > - Existing database rows can reconstruct that work after restart. > - This PR wakes a scoped worker from those writes and removes lifecycle polling. > - Native progress events keep their separate existing owner until the next migration. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The chat maintenance timer repeatedly scanned run lifecycle state. Empty and settled instances still queried the database. A run-status event alone cannot replace the scan: prompt receipts, continuation receipts, identity changes, and restored authority can make a run eligible later. **What did you expect?** Committed changes wake projection. Startup reconstructs eligible work. A completed pass stops until another relevant change arrives. Failed work retains recovery without scanning settled history forever. **Steps to reproduce** Configure an automatic chat endpoint. Finish its work, or leave it unused. Observe recurring lifecycle projection queries from the chat maintenance callback. Stacked on #17592. Related foundation: #15625. This PR owns lifecycle milestones only. ## What Changed - Preserve upstream coalesced Cloud membership writes together with locked membership restoration and its committed chat notification. - Signal milestone eligibility from the real Slack account-link transaction. - Register the lifecycle worker with the existing delivery coordinator. Remove lifecycle projection from the periodic chat callback. Keep native progress in a separately named lane and preserve the explicit combined API. - Reconstruct company/issue scopes from the existing selector. Drain bounded batches with company fairness. Retry failures, retain writes through drain/resume, and disarm settled work. - Signal from supported run, presentation, interaction, receipt, lineage, conversation, recovery, and authority writers. Preserve their transaction ownership, including nested savepoints and uncertain settlement. No new table is added. - Preserve provider authorization, authored-final suppression, responsible-user continuity, deduplication, the 24-hour selection window, and raw-output restrictions. Keep provider interpretation in its owner. - Preserve PostgreSQL timestamp precision in lifecycle pagination. Rejected submillisecond candidates must not repeat the same page and starve later notices. - Document producer coverage and alternate-writer dispositions in `doc/plans/2026-10-25-chat-run-milestone-sleep-audit.md`. ## Verification Published head: `1d056f68c5b1005933b9e12de8745bf1c4cbeeca`, targeting master after #17592 merged at `7d75ae0569e41786640cf09647ae8849411d2f22`. A normal merge integrates the actual landed parent. The entire 77-path milestone patch is binary-identical to the locally verified preparation across that ancestry reconciliation; both unrelated master paths are preserved. The four earlier producer/test integration conflicts retain scoped milestone and voice notices, current onboarding completion admission, and expanded identity query/read-scope coverage. - **330 distinct selected cases pass on the verified unchanged patch:** 305 across 14 complete suites (all five milestone worker suites, run identity, board claim, Cloud provisioning, auth session routes, Cloud actor authentication, stale-lock recovery, GitHub credentials, project Git authorization, and app admission wiring), plus 25 selected real chat producer cases. The remaining 1,590 chat integration cases were skipped, not passed. - The real producer cases cover saved milestone discovery, GitHub and Slack identity changes, account-link rollback/reconfirmation, ordinary ingress reactivation, post-close action/delivery receipt settlement, all ten authority-restoration paths including Cloud synchronization, and changed native review metadata. - Worker coverage verifies outer commit, rollback, uncertain-write recovery, restart, bounded batching/fairness, timestamp precision, retries, drain/resume, and settled SQL quiet. Authorization and existing publication deduplication remain with their owning services. - Server production typechecking, build, and module-boundary checks pass. The tests above were executed separately. Production typechecking excludes `src/__tests__` and does not replace those runs. Each database owner uses its own newly created and app-migrated PostgreSQL fixture. - [Current-parent acceptance and preserved failure ledger](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/1d056f68c5b1005933b9e12de8745bf1c4cbeeca/doc/plans/2026-10-25-chat-run-milestone-sleep-audit.md#current-parent-integration-and-acceptance-october-28) records commands, counts, producer scope, conflict dispositions, and limits. Earlier combined-stack counts and failures keep their original revision scope; local acceptance does not erase old CI failures. - No new migration, queue table, dependency, workflow, or shared scheduler contract is introduced. Parent migration 0397, bounded consent recovery, voice cleanup/retention repairs, and runner checkpoint restoration remain present. - **Exact-head Greptile is 5/5 and all 55 current checks are clean.** No Ponytail review is present, which is an explicitly authorized nonblocker; no failing review is waived. Older reviews and parent checks are not current passes. Actual failing Ponytail findings must be fixed; an absent/stopped/paused turn without a verdict is an authorized nonblocker. Active unfinished Ponytail uses its original request/start timer, with a 25-minute monitor cutoff respecting the user's 30-minute maximum. - No complete local repository matrix, live provider tenant, external alarm, physical host/database suspension, or fleet savings claim is made. Native progress remains a separate following slice. ## Risks - A future eligibility writer must notify the existing projection boundary. Independent SQL writers or another active server process are outside this process-local signal contract. - Authority and lineage remain sensitive. The worker uses the existing selectors and publication policy; it does not grant execution or disclosure authority. - Native progress and other publication maintenance still have recurring work. This PR removes one reason, not the entire chat maintenance timer. - Worker quiet does not prove database suspension, host sleep, or external alarm coverage. Cloud sleep blockers remain unchanged. - Merge eligibility requires passing current-head CI and Greptile 5/5 after this actual-master reconciliation. Subsequent stack slices retain their own gates. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed. Used repository inspection, reasoning, shell execution, PostgreSQL tests, browser E2Es and GitHub tools. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details available in this session) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the documented focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf: avoid full JIT and activity scans in Mine unread badges (#17973)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - Mine includes tasks the person created, was assigned, or participated in. > - Its unread badge ranks the visible personal top 100 before checking unread state. > - Correlated participation and privacy predicates can trigger expensive PostgreSQL JIT work. > - This change joins native participant IDs before ranking a narrow candidate projection. > - A partial actor index avoids scanning company activity history for each badge. > - Local representative scoped reads improve while dense unrestricted overhead remains explicit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The Mine unread badge in the company sidebar. **Current behavior:** A fresh five-minute window recorded 402 ranking calls and 31.7 seconds of SQL time. Correlated predicates can spend more time compiling than executing. **Proposed behavior:** Build the same company-scoped participant set, use native issue keys, apply fresh authority before the top-100 limit, then retain the original canonical rank and second unread query. **Reason and benefit:** Reduce full JIT compilation and avoid an unindexed company-history activity scan. Realistic activity-only participation is included in the measurement. **Breaking changes:** No API or policy change. This PR adds one concurrent partial index migration. Related Mine rules in #16356 and #17756 are preserved. ## What Changed - Join distinct native participant IDs; guard exact legacy text before UUID conversion. - Skip redundant activity participation already covered by creation/assignment. Sort a narrow eligible candidate projection before canonical activity ranking. - Share existing pending-request and user-activity predicates with ordinary Mine reads. - Add partial `activity_log(company_id, actor_id, entity_id)` for user-authored issue activity. Register its idempotent concurrent migration with the existing top-level/invalid-index-repair runner. - Add real PostgreSQL coverage for visible top 100, unread/archive/source semantics, exact IDs, company scope and fresh grant/private-project access. - Add a pinned service benchmark with separate pre-index/indexed databases, identical data, full positional equality, ordinary-call timings, plans and real migration/cancellation proof. ## Verification - Fourteen focused PostgreSQL 17 tests pass (16.37 s), including assembled badge routes and grant revocation. Full workspace typecheck and build pass on the final production sources. - The earlier full local suite is incomplete: native PostgreSQL startup exhausted system semaphores, independently reproduced with empty initdb. All sixteen failed cases passed with task-owned Docker PostgreSQL 17. This is not counted as a full local-suite pass. Full Linux CI passes on final head `f44e46ce580e8345209d7165f57bd8bf696c517c`. Greptile and Paperclip Review are both 5/5 with zero unresolved comments. - Baseline `70c864633744cd96c0dc7394d631fc7119cd17d2`; source and DDL hashes retained. Two warmups and five alternating samples per arm/cell. Capture and EXPLAIN occur outside timed ordinary service calls. - All twelve 300k-history cells match complete positional rows in both SQL phases and final returned IDs. Half the personal tasks qualify through activity alone; the actor index contains matching and other-human rows. | Local service case | Before median | After median | Before / after | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | | dense / unrestricted / JIT on | 18.33 ms | 25.06 ms | 0.73x | | dense / scoped / JIT on | 909.30 ms | 221.10 ms | 4.11x | | sparse / unrestricted / JIT on | 13.64 ms | 5.84 ms | 2.34x | | sparse / scoped / JIT on | 719.07 ms | 10.79 ms | 66.64x | Small paths add at most 0.6 ms at the median. Dense unrestricted paths regress by 6.7–7.7 ms; dense scoped JIT-off is approximately neutral (218.34→223.24 ms). Sparse JIT-off paths improve too. This is not a uniform speedup. The actual baseline fails the compiler-work assertion. The final query avoids full JIT optimization/inlining and exceeds 1.5x where the old plan triggers those passes. Small/sparse controls meet the 25% or 2 ms allowance. Dense no-JIT cases are explicit diagnostics. The optional 60 ms absolute goal still fails at 221.10 ms on dense scoped reads: substantial privacy-predicate execution remains after compilation is removed. The failure is retained rather than counted as green. The actual normal migration runner upgraded 300k activity rows in 668.79 ms including inspection, index build/validation and journal work. Rerun took 21.83 ms; a deliberately cancelled build left an invalid index, and retry repaired it in 187.71 ms. Concurrent reads/writes completed; the final index was 188416 bytes. No migration was run on the hosted database. The million-row mixed-participation sparse control also passes all four visibility/JIT pairs with complete equality: unrestricted JIT-on 13.44→5.76 ms; scoped JIT-on 807.76→11.59 ms. The actor branch visits 36 indexed rows rather than scanning company history. Actual migration+runner took 255.06 ms; rerun 20.32 ms; cancellation repair/retry 241.73 ms. Concurrent reads and writes completed without failures. Reproduce: ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsx ../scripts/benchmark-mine-unread-badge.ts --baseline-ref=70c864633744cd96c0dc7394d631fc7119cd17d2 --history-decoys=240000 --verify-migration --assert-performance --evidence-dir=<directory> ``` Add `--fixture=sparse --history-decoys=940000` for the million-row control. The default harness starts disposable embedded PostgreSQL and ignores DATABASE_URL. Recorded evidence used PostgreSQL 17.11 through a scratch constructor provider because the host native runtime has semaphore limits. All normal database allocation/migration/client paths are retained. Source-only EXISTS/lateral alternatives were measured and rejected after company scans or sparse regressions. A time bound would lose historical participation, and existing indexes cannot select a user's activity. This justifies the exceptional partial index migration. The exact sample ranges, plans, failures, source hashes, migration footprint and feedback-loop timing are in `doc/plans/2026-10-27-mine-unread-badge-query.md`. ## Risks - Dense unrestricted reads are slightly slower, and dense scoped reads retain substantial authority work. The PR removes a compilation/lookup bottleneck rather than all badge latency. - The concurrent build scans activity history and can wait for long-lived transactions. Local build/cancellation timings do not guarantee the duration on larger or slower hosted databases. User-authored issue activity gains one narrow index to maintain. - Participation, visibility, ranking and legacy ID semantics must remain exact; the real database regressions exercise those boundaries. - Hosted improvement is unverified. The affected ranking SQL averaged 78.8 ms while HTTP badge requests averaged 752 ms without correlated traces. No merge or deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use and local code execution. The runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context window to this agent. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): wake approval queue seeding from committed changes (#17510)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work and human decisions for AI-agent companies. > - Automatic decision queues store membership for pending attention sources. > - The old attention maintenance scan created that membership as a side effect. > - Moving approval retention out of the scan also removed approval queue discovery. > - Queue API consumers do not build the attention feed first, so they can miss pending PR approvals. > - This pull request gives approval queue discovery its own worker and commit signals. > - The worker becomes quiet after it saves every missing membership. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17497. Stacked on #17508, following #17505. This is a correctness dependency for the approval retention migration in #17497. Do not treat that migration as complete without this queue-population path. A real PostgreSQL regression found no PR queue when a pending approval had a linked PR work product and the maintenance feed excluded approvals. Related: #13364 proposes pruning stale seeded memberships. This PR preserves existing membership retention and does not implement pruning. #15149 documents the decision-queue APIs. ## What Changed - Add an approval queue worker that selects missing PR-queue memberships from existing durable records. Bound each pass to 100 rows. Continue past failed rows and revisit them on retry. - Reuse the queue service's seed writer through a normalized source contract. Keep queue rules, uniqueness, and audit writes in that service. Keep feed readers compatible. - Wake from committed approval and link changes, issue/company visibility, PR work-product changes and imports, and queue-rule changes. Reuse the existing transaction boundaries. - Recheck approval status under a row lock. Serialize queue-rule changes with the seed writer. Preserve required recovery during drain and shutdown. - Register startup reconstruction under the existing maintenance switch. Leave other attention-source seeding with its current owner until its own migration. - Document the complete producer audit and stack dependency. Add a validated external PostgreSQL option to the existing queue route suite so it runs on hosts without embedded database support. ## Verification Current tested revision: `7948136ef8`. This PR targets master after #17508 merged as `8406047b4e`. Normal ancestry reconciliation preserved the complete tested integration tree, before the review repairs below. Only the original 25 seeding paths differ from master, and database schema/migration metadata is identical. - **56 cases pass in the three complete affected suites:** 28 approval seeding, 6 queue routes and 22 task-watchdog cases. Server typecheck and production build pass. - Three real PostgreSQL retry regressions failed then passed: new matching arrivals cannot postpone a recovered failure indefinitely; successful partial progress resets old failure penalties; an empty cursor rollover does not reset outage backoff. Exact one- and two-second retry assertions, eventual complete recovery and existing capped-backoff/company isolation tests pass. - Three genuinely empty external databases failed before setup repair because tables were missing. Each suite now applies migrations itself. All 55 cases passed on a second set of fresh databases; adding the final rollover guard then passed all 56 cases using those now-migrated fixtures. No production migration or table is added. - The initial expanded fresh run passed 54 cases but failed a cleanup expectation that omitted a required cursor rollover pass. The fixture now permits that explicit continuation while preserving exact deadline and complete-membership assertions. All failure records remain in `doc/idle-approval-queue-seeding.md`. - The prior integrated revision `4e725e2055` passed **522 cases in fifteen complete producer/consumer suites**, plus types/build. Its unchanged consumer code and historical deadlock, cross-company amplification, backoff, gateway integration and setup evidence remain documented; those counts are not relabeled as current acceptance. Commands: server Vitest for approval queue seeding, queue routes and task watchdogs; server typecheck/build. Fresh exact-head Greptile/Ponytail reviews and all CI checks remain required. No full local repository-suite, deployed suspension or cost claim is made. ## Risks - Signals cover the supported in-process service writers. Independent SQL writers and multiple server replicas need a separate notification contract. - The source predicate must stay aligned with unscoped attention maintenance. The first linked issue, company scope, pending status, and execution visibility are tested. A pending approval itself keeps its linked external conversation active. - Existing enabled seed rules can re-add manually removed matching memberships. This preserves the old scan's behavior. Completed or archived membership is not pruned. - Queue seeding and retention are separate owners. Other attention sources still need their own event-driven discovery before the aggregate scan can be retired. - This PR does not extend Cloud wake coverage, relax sleep admission, or claim measured host/database suspension. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and code execution. The exact serving model identifier and context window were not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): schedule approval retention from durable deadlines (#17497)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and should become idle when it owes no background work. > - The attention feed archives old pending approvals under the existing 90-day policy. > - The server rebuilds the feed on each maintenance tick, even when approval state has not changed. > - Some approvals have never been read, so retention rows alone cannot define the work. > - Approval records and committed eligibility changes define the real deadline and wake triggers. > - This PR gives approval retention its own deadline worker and reuses the existing retention and archive-delivery contracts. > - The approval lane stops idle scans while other attention sources remain separate migration work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Stacked on #17490. This PR owns approval retention only. Archive notification delivery is already separated in #17475. Other attention-source retention and remaining recurring server duties remain in the stack inventory. The related-PR search found no overlapping approval-retention worker migration. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Automatic archival of old pending approvals from attention. **Current behavior** The shared maintenance tick builds the attention feed for each active company. That query discovers pending approvals and materializes retention records before checking their age. An unchanged or empty approval source is read repeatedly. **Proposed behavior** Reconstruct eligible approvals at startup. Schedule the earliest approval activity timestamp plus 90 days. Wake after committed changes to approvals, links, issue visibility, company activity, or retention controls. Stop scheduling when no eligible approval remains. Archive records through the existing version checks, audit writes, and notification outbox. **Reason and benefit** Idle approval retention should generate no recurring SQL. Unseen approvals still need eventual archival. A stale candidate must not archive an approval that was resubmitted while the worker waited for its source lock. **Breaking changes** None intended. The archive age, eligibility, keep controls, audit, and notification policy remain. Normal attention reads still include approvals. No Cloud sleep blocker is relaxed. ## What Changed - Restrict tool-review signals to their existing terminal transition owners (approve/reject/cancel). Creation/link/revision/resubmit signal retention only. - Coalesce retention notifications under one thirty-second aggregate read budget. Known deadlines still preempt it; no notification or durable deadline means no scan. - Add a bounded approval-retention worker. It uses the shared deadline coordinator and reads pending approvals directly. - Share first-linked-issue ordering and execution visibility through `approval-visibility.ts`, used by both the feed and worker. Preserve actor-specific read filtering and locked archival rechecks. - Materialize unseen approvals on demand inside manual keep/archive/revive transactions. Use the saved activity timestamp and existing versioned state; retain company scoping and rollback on failure. - Add awaited pre-write signals to approval, budget, tool, link, visibility, company, and retention mutation owners. Preserve outer transaction ownership; keep provider calls outside SQL wrappers. - Narrow retention inputs to the source fields the existing service uses. Signal materialization only for inserted or changed state so unchanged reads converge. - Exclude approval collection from the maintenance feed before its query. Other source kinds remain in that sweep. - Add the pending-only approval deadline index with concurrent, idempotent creation. Keep the five newest migration snapshots. - Add real-Postgres lifecycle tests and startup wiring tests. Enable validated external test databases for existing attention and budget suites. - Document producer coverage, quiet conditions, recovery and remaining scope in `doc/idle-approval-retention.md` and the stack ledger. ## Verification Current test revision: `dd844f4e8cbbf1db681a774dc31cd552301bef48`, followed by docs-only `3efda33812`, which received both 5/5 reviews and passing CI. This candidate normally integrates landed Grok `2adcde162e`. All runtime and acceptance-test sources are byte-identical to that tested/reviewed tree; only four independent Runner E2E accounting files and the ledger differ. Migration 0392 and the parent journal prefix are unchanged. Local checks are reused for their unchanged source; fresh final-head CI and reviews are required against master. This remains the approval-retention duty. - **315 cases pass** across eight complete suites: approval retention/service, attention, decision retention, budgets, tool gateway, server startup and scoped deadlines. All 30 real-PostgreSQL lifecycle cases pass. Server production typecheck and build pass. - **Four regressions failed before repair**: unseen young keep/archive/revive returned 404; the manual keep rollback case could not reach its update. They now pass. A failed keep update leaves no retention row or audit; retry succeeds with one audit. - Both linked-issue orders are checked against the feed: hidden first/visible later is excluded; visible first/hidden later remains eligible. The feed and worker use the same owner query, with actor read filtering preserved. - Generated concurrent/idempotent migration `0392_small_frightful_four.sql` adds only the pending approval index. Every historical parent SQL migration and all 390 parent journal entries are unchanged. Five generated snapshots remain (0388–0392). Schema drift, migration safety/numbering and actual fresh apply/replay on five isolated PostgreSQL databases pass. - Existing precision, transaction, drain/resume, failure fairness and shutdown tests remain. Earlier transaction-stub, budget-import, diagnostic-client and CI failures are recorded in the owning audit and stack ledger; later passes do not erase them. - Three additional real regressions failed before the wake repair: ordinary mutations emitted tool-review signals in both resolution cases, and sequential tenant writes caused repeated global reads. Tests now prove terminal approve/reject/cancel signals and one aggregate reconciliation per thirty-second window with a different company's pending approval retained. The aggregate budget is stricter than a separate per-company budget and matches the old default cadence; known deadlines preempt it. - The initial coalescing fixture expected the concrete pending-work hold to clear before reconciliation; it now preserves that hold and measures SQL. The first broad repair passed 313 cases but failed the existing parked-review cancel case. The original cancel producer is restored; all 315 now pass without weakening assertions. At old head `5991f257bb`, security was action-required and Greptile returned service error `8fb1835c-e564-476b-b802-d5be164ea915`. Fresh repaired-head results are required, not assumed. Commands: server Vitest for `approval-retention-work`, `approvals-service`, `attention-service`, `decision-retention-service`, `budgets-service`, `tool-gateway-service`, `server-startup-feedback-export`, `scoped-deadline-work`; server typecheck/build; DB snapshot drift, migration checks and fresh apply/replay. Fresh exact-head Greptile/Ponytail and CI remain merge gates. No full local repository suite or deployed host suspension/cost claim is made. Earlier stack verification below is historical evidence at the explicitly named revisions, not this head's acceptance: Approved delegated Test-tab calls now evaluate caller and target policies in the existing claim transaction. Intermediate counter/identity fixture failures and a reused-database Slack collision are recorded in [the owning audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/20557d2c3dd0949c734eaa8095fd78b9b07d7fd5/doc/idle-approved-tool-recovery.md#delegated-test-tab-admission-after-policy-changes). The earlier combined checks below remain evidence for their stated revisions. Current-head CI and review remain required. Earlier published head: `20557d2c3dd0949c734eaa8095fd78b9b07d7fd5`. This remains a single-duty PR stacked on #17490. - Integrated pinned master `8548173fc9efdc0fa07644fb92dcc0b6851a95e5` with normal merges. Every branch passed generated-schema checks and its target-branch migration-order gate. Existing SQL is unchanged; the 25 stack migrations follow master’s new migration. - Duty-specific producer coverage, lifecycle tests, and earlier failure records: [2026-10-24-recurring-server-sleep-stack.md](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/76a49810c7ff403ae7720bef0d453747bd844731/doc/plans/2026-10-24-recurring-server-sleep-stack.md). - Combined tip `51e6cbe67979b55b340ea9f0f434c5b5c682ccd6`: **355 startup/cancellation/recovery/dispatch/preservation tests**, **75 connection-management tests**, and production server typechecking pass. These combined checks do not mean every intermediate PR independently ran the full repository suite. - Real master-to-stack database upgrade passes: **379 unchanged prior migration receipts plus 25 new migrations**, with the gateway responsibility fixture preserved. - Owning-branch checks: 84 runner installation/settlement cases plus runner typechecking and generated TypeScript/Rust profile agreement; 253 GitHub review workflow cases. Stop-attribution and held-worker readiness regressions failed before their fixes. - Failure accounting: the initial combined run passed 349 cases and failed six idle assertions in a reused preservation database containing old cancelled runs. Repeating the combined command with a fresh preservation database passed. Earlier invalid project selection, merge import/type errors, and the interrupted full local suite are not counted as passing checks. - **Latest-head CI and review remain required.** Prior CI findings include GitHub idle observation, route teardown, attention cleanup, touch-picker E2E, workspace health, and voice-cleanup timing; local passes do not erase those failures. No full local repository-suite, deployed sleep, fleet cost, or live Copilot qualification claim is made. ## Risks - Signals cover the application database owner and its child pools. Independent SQL writers and other active processes need an explicit wake integration. Startup reconstructs committed durable state. - The source row lock prevents stale approval-activity archival. It does not add cross-table serializability for concurrent link, visibility, or company-policy changes. - Newly changed eligibility can wait up to the thirty-second notification window, matching the former default maintenance cadence. Saved deadlines still preempt; no new idle polling is added. - Failed records retain recovery debt. Bounded cursor progress lets later rows proceed without dropping failures. - The shared retention transaction now groups materialization and activity-version updates. Existing attention and retention consumers are tested against PostgreSQL. - Kept, archived, resolved or inactive-company approvals can become quiet, but their supported mutations must retain their wake notifications. - The local scheduler cannot wake stopped compute. This PR neither adds approval deadlines to Cloud's external alarm contract nor claims measured host or database suspension. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and code execution. fix(server): wake decision target checks from committed changes (#17486)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Decisions can depend on strict references to other tasks. > - A cancelled, deleted, or completed target can make a decision obsolete. > - The server currently scans open decisions on every maintenance tick to find those changes. > - The owning issue writes already have transaction boundaries that can signal the change. > - This pull request reconciles affected decisions after commit and reconstructs open targets at startup. > - Valid open decisions and completed history stop causing periodic SQL. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Decision target invalidation. This is slice 12 of the recurring-server sleep stack, based on #17482. TTL expiry is #17479 and continuation delivery is #17478. Retention remains separate work. **Subsystem affected** Server decision policy, issue mutation and deletion, and startup wiring. **Current behavior** The aggregate sweep repeatedly reads open decisions and their strict targets. It shares a maintenance tick with unrelated jobs even when every target remains valid. **Proposed behavior** Committed decision creation and terminal issue updates request a scoped check. Deletion requests a bounded full scan because its target links can cascade away. Startup reconstructs open target state. Once reconciliation settles, no target scan remains scheduled. **Reason and benefit** Remove normal empty polling without losing target invalidation, transactional delivery, or restart recovery. Reuse existing decision rows and target links instead of adding a table. **Breaking changes** No API or schema change. The main tick stops calling the combined decision sweep after its four duties have separate owners. The public combined method retains its default behavior. **Additional context** The initial decision implementation stored secondary links as well as primary links. This migration does not assume a new legacy backfill. Independent SQL writers still require an explicit signal integration. ## What Changed - Replace the periodic target scan with committed-change activation and bounded startup reconstruction. Keep the existing decision policy and expiry/activity owner. - Require production notifications to identify an issue or decision. Before deletion, lock the issue and capture its linked open decisions in the same company; emit their IDs before links cascade. This avoids resetting full scans and fences concurrent proposal creation. - Reuse that owner helper for issue removal and routine failure cleanup. No linked decisions means no target signal. Remove company deletion's ineffective global signal; its pre-existing restrictive decision foreign keys remain unchanged. - Retain PostgreSQL timestamp text in paging cursors so rows within one millisecond cannot repeat indefinitely. - Remove the unused combined internal decision sweep after its final duty is split; exercise each owner directly in the existing behavioral tests. - Keep query policy and notification discovery in `decision-targets.ts`. The coordinator registration contains lifecycle wiring only. Add no queue table, per-route recovery wrapper or external-wake exemption. ## Verification Current candidate normally integrates landed effect recovery `e9e84bb8a1`. Its runtime and acceptance tests are byte-identical to tested target head `85ce6545bf`; the only new source files are four independently merged Runner E2E accounting files, preserved exactly. The 248-case/type/build evidence comes from test revision `54936a919f36c2ea421e7ce8e15912b1105b8dcc`, followed by documentation-only changes. Fresh current-head CI and reviews are required. This remains the target-invalidation duty only. - **248 cases pass** in all seven complete suites: 25 target, 80 routine, 54 decision, 26 effect-recovery, 20 expiry, 42 startup and one scoped-deadline case. Database suites use separate migrated PostgreSQL fixtures. Server production typecheck and build pass. - **Four regressions failed before repair:** paging across microsecond timestamps, deletion behind a full valid startup page, unnecessary global work from unrelated deletion, and unnecessary work after deleting an empty company. All four pass. - A real concurrent proposal is observed waiting on the issue-row lock between pre-delete discovery and deletion commit. Removing that lock made the test fail because the proposal committed instead of waiting. Restoring the implementation passes. The mutation was restored before commit. - Existing real producer tests cover commit/rollback, deletion with scoped hints in one outer transaction, secondary targets, re-opened tasks, valid/lenient history quietness, startup paging, failure retry, drain/resume and shutdown. The routine failure case now requires no signal when its cleanup has no linked decision. - The earlier dropped-hint and drain-fixture failures remain in [the behavior audit](doc/idle-decision-targets.md). Extra upstream embedded-only tests attempted on the parent could not initialize locally; CI must cover that environment. No new schema migration or table is added. The final review cleanup removes the combined internal `sweepExpired` method, cursor, flags and unused target-policy export. A repository/package/SDK audit found no remaining production caller or public exposure. Behavioral tests now call the dedicated workers; isolation tests prove TTL does not recover stale effects and effect recovery does not expire open decisions. HTTP and plugin SDK contracts are unchanged. The full 248-case selection passes after this cleanup and parent reconciliation; types/build pass with the updated Runner vendor. Current-head CI run 40602159553 (attempt 1) failed in the workspace CLI group: company import/export startup exceeded its 30-second health deadline, and the dense ZIP case exceeded its unchanged five-second timeout. The preceding UI group passed all 4,169 cases. Both CLI files and the transfer implementation are unchanged from the landed parent. The complete ZIP-transfer file passes all 17 cases locally on this exact head; the CLI startup E2E is skipped because the host's embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap fails. This does not prove Linux startup locally. The failure logs remain recorded; no timeout or assertion is changed. One bounded retry of the failed jobs is requested after the workflow completed. Its result and the current-head gates remain required before merge. Commands: server typecheck/build and Vitest for `decision-target-work`, `routines-service`, `decisions-service`, `decision-effect-recovery-work`, `decision-expiry-work`, `server-startup-feedback-export` and `scoped-deadline-work`. Local targeted acceptance does not establish deployed suspension or fleet savings. Fresh exact-head CI and Greptile/Ponytail remain merge gates. ## Risks - Deletion now holds the issue row lock while discovering dependent decisions and completing the existing removal transaction. This is needed to serialize new FK references. Provider calls are not placed inside that transaction. - Company deletion with decision-origin references still has the pre-existing restrictive FK limitation. Removing the futile notification does not implement a new company-data cleanup policy. - Supported writers share the application DB owner and maintain existing target links. Independent SQL writers, damaged links or multiple active processes need their own wake contract; startup still reconstructs all open targets. - Cloud sleep blockers and durable external alarms are unchanged. Worker quiet is not proof of deployed host/database suspension. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and code execution. The exact serving model identifier and context window were not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(chat): project reply lineage run context (#17932)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A run can continue a task that began in an external chat. > - The reply router follows durable lineage to find the authorized conversation. > - Each lineage hop reads the full run context, although it uses only nine keys. > - Wide prompts and workspace data make that read transfer far more data than the router needs. > - This pull request selects those keys inside PostgreSQL and preserves their exact JSON values. > - The benefit is less database transfer with the same reply destination and authorization checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #17255, #17894. The first owns related chat review delivery. The second is an independent result-projection optimization. This PR has no dependency on another open PR. A public issue and PR search found no duplicate change. The roadmap does not list this query optimization as planned core work. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The server resolves the conversation that may receive a reply after one or more task continuations. **Current behavior** Each hop reads agent identity, responsible user identity, and the complete context snapshot. The snapshot can contain large prompts and workspace data that the router never reads. **Proposed behavior** Select only the nine context keys that this function consumes. Preserve missing keys, explicit JSON nulls, arrays, objects, and scalar values. Keep non-object contexts unchanged. Keep all durable authorization queries and the cycle-safe traversal. **Reason and benefit** A synthetic wide context needs 262,402 DataRow bytes before the change and 244 after it. A valid 24-continuation lineage needs 6,560,338 bytes before and 6,388 after it. The reduction occurs before PostgreSQL sends the result. **Breaking changes** None. The public API, stored context, reply bindings, tenant checks, and admission proofs retain their existing behavior. ## What Changed - Project an object context through `jsonb_each` and `jsonb_object_agg`. Retain only the nine consumed keys. Preserve all selected JSON values and key presence. - Keep the agent and responsible-user columns. Keep the company and run predicates. - Add 22 real PostgreSQL tests for routing, malformed JSON, strict tool-action receipt comparisons, tenant boundaries, 24 valid continuation hops, and an authorized cycle. - Add a synthetic benchmark that loads the pinned baseline service, captures its generated SQL, compares complete bindings and selected columns, and measures text-format PostgreSQL DataRow frames. - Run owned resource cleanup in nested `finally` blocks so fixture deletion or client close failures cannot skip cluster and scratch cleanup. Preserve the original benchmark failure alongside a cleanup failure. The complete consumer-key audit is: | Context keys | Consumer | | --- | --- | | `issueId`, `taskId` | Task identity fence, with the existing fallback order | | `wakeCommentIds`, `wakeCommentId`, `commentId` | Board reply and root comment provenance | | `source`, `sourceRunId`, `interactionId` | Durable continuation branches and tool-action receipt checks | | `endpointId` | Root destination fence | Missing `interactionId` stays absent. It does not become JSON null. This matters because the tool-action branch compares it strictly with the durable wake payload. The tests cover absent, null, string, number, and object values. They also remove the delivery receipt to prove that context alone cannot authorize a reply. ## Verification Baseline: `3cd3af5d75f200185ed4d9703a3145594a489b13`. Treatment: `3439ba7b714090d9f251816efec26622b3df223b`. PostgreSQL 17.11, Node 26.4.0. All data is synthetic. The benchmark holds imported helpers and fixtures identical and loads only the baseline `issues.ts` from history. It records generated SQL, parameters, plans, source SHA-256, and the initial worktree state before scratch creation. The committed final measurement reports a clean worktree and source SHA-256 `cd7e955179118fda12f6b2e981a17efff54137cbf241019785a3f8d16a7dcbb8`. Reproduce the benchmark: ```sh node --import ./server/node_modules/tsx/dist/loader.mjs scripts/benchmark-chat-reply-lineage.ts --baseline-ref=3cd3af5d75f200185ed4d9703a3145594a489b13 ``` The default creates disposable embedded PostgreSQL. `PAPERCLIP_CHAT_LINEAGE_BENCHMARK_DATABASE_URL` can name a dedicated external database that ends in `_test`. The harness applies migrations and removes its own fixture rows. It never uses an application database by default. Each wide run has 192 KiB of random bytes encoded as base64. This produces a 262,144-byte incompressible body. Two warmups precede seven timed samples. Baseline and treatment alternate order. Every scenario returns the same complete bindings. Every retained SQL column matches its baseline value, and the context matches the exact key projection. The acceptance check requires removal of every unrelated synthetic body byte. | Scenario | Baseline DataRow bytes | Changed DataRow bytes | Baseline SQL median ms (range) | Changed SQL median ms (range) | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | | small | 282 | 244 | 0.927 (0.900–1.455) | 1.027 (0.801–1.063) | | wide | 262,402 | 244 | 2.618 (2.440–4.831) | 1.490 (1.400–1.815) | | wide-24-continuations | 6,560,338 | 6,388 | 87.450 (80.103–130.197) | 43.103 (38.549–52.864) | These bytes are exact text-format DataRow frame sizes. They exclude row descriptions, command metadata, TLS, and TCP. Timings cover the captured lineage SQL, including all hops. They exclude the other authorization queries. The small control is neutral and timing ranges overlap on wider cases. An earlier loaded run had a small-control median of 1.15 ms before and 1.33 ms after. No deployed latency or billing improvement is claimed. The byte reduction is the primary result. Local checks: - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links`: passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/chat-reply-lineage-context.test.ts`: 22 passed on the committed rebased head. - The existing `chat-interaction-continuation.test.ts` file: all 28 tests passed. These cover confirmation, verdict, connection, and invalid-authority paths. - Five selected cases in `chat-channels.integration.test.ts`: passed in a fresh dedicated database. They cover closed-choice question delivery and steering, Telegram confirmation, ambiguous close control, and both fresh-after-close authorization paths. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed again after the master rebase. - `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs` and `git diff --check`: passed. - Cleanup repair at `3439ba7b714090d9f251816efec26622b3df223b`: all 22 focused PostgreSQL tests, the benchmark above, and server `tsc --noEmit` passed. Six controlled cleanup-failure cases confirmed later finalizers run; benchmark and cleanup errors remain visible together. The unchanged baseline failed the wide-result regression: 262,383 value bytes exceeded its 1 KiB bound. The treatment passes. Initial fixture setup needed a required conversation label and explicit foreign-key cleanup. The first full typecheck found a row-type mismatch in the new capture helper; that helper was corrected. The complete typecheck then passed. No production logic changed for those setup repairs. A prior assembled run reused the interaction test database. Its retained running fixtures caused a global milestone-count assertion to fail. Later reuse exposed retained bot registration and identity state. An attempted manual reset named a nonexistent table and did not complete. These failed attempts are not acceptance evidence. The final five-case assembled proof used a newly created and migrated database and passed every assertion. No existing assertion was changed. The full local `pnpm test:run` was not run. Focused tests used the coordinated disposable PostgreSQL server to avoid uncontrolled embedded-cluster concurrency on this host. The full final-head CI matrix passes on `3439ba7b714090d9f251816efec26622b3df223b`: 55 successful checks, one neutral check, and two optional Storybook skips. Greptile completed at 5/5 on that exact head, with zero unresolved findings. The existing interaction and assembled cases ran before the unrelated master rebase; the measured service source is unchanged. Focused tests, benchmark, full typecheck, and build passed on the rebased production-change head. The current cleanup-only head reran focused tests, benchmark, and server TypeScript validation; production service source is unchanged. ## Risks - Future lineage consumers must add any new context key to the SQL projection and the correctness oracle. - Selected values retain their complete JSON content. Non-object contexts pass through unchanged. Savings depend on unrelated object data being present. - PostgreSQL must still read the stored object to make the projection. The change reduces returned data, rather than removing all server-side JSON work. - Question delivery, tool action, connection, monitor, publication, company, and agent proofs retain their existing owners. No hop limit, cache, schema change, startup task, or deployment is added. - Benchmark usage and the result contract are documented here. No public command or API contract changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed by this environment. fix(server): require approval before onboarding task creation (#17914)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/78/changes/paperclip/78 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and human decisions. > - Onboarding asks the first agent to propose a task before it starts work. > - The first-task skill requires human acceptance before task creation. > - The native tool could create and schedule that task without acceptance. > - REST task creation had the same gap. > - This change checks saved acceptance in the shared creation transaction. > - Valid approvals and ordinary delegation keep their existing behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An agent could create a task from the canonical onboarding first task before the user accepted its proposal. A real journey caught this after the agent read the first-task skill. A local database regression reproduces the missing check in the native tool and both REST creation endpoints. **Expected behavior** New task creation must wait for saved human acceptance of the latest ordinary proposal. A different parent or a standalone task must not bypass that check. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Bind an authenticated agent run to a server-created onboarding first task. 2. Leave its proposal unaccepted. 3. Call native `create_task`, `POST /api/companies/:companyId/issues`, or `POST /api/issues/:issueId/children`. 4. Before this fix, creation succeeds. After this fix, it is denied before a child or wake is committed. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `3be54534c24fc279533ff421e62a77ad15b72954` before the fix. ## What Changed - Add a shared check for new task creation from an authenticated onboarding run. - Read the latest ordinary confirmation across both confirmation kinds under the source task lock. - Require a human card decision or validated conversational acceptance. Require the current revision for a saved plan. - Preserve ordinary delegation, committed replay, and dispatch recovery. - Add database regressions and update execution and onboarding map documentation. ## Verification - Real PostgreSQL regression before the fix: 17 failures and four passing approval/delegation controls. No skips. - Exact published source: 102 tests passed across admission, conversational confirmation, and project tools, including all 25 admission regressions. Real Linux PostgreSQL, no skips. - `pnpm build` and `pnpm -r typecheck` passed locally. - Map checks and `git diff --check` passed. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted locally. Existing suites failed because the host exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore sets. The remaining owned test process was stopped; its failed log is preserved. No unrelated database was stopped. Current-head Linux CI passed, including build, typecheck, and browser E2E. The first CI attempt lost runners; its evidence is preserved, and interrupted jobs passed one CI rerun. - The live Cloud attempt remains failed. Local tests do not qualify Cloud onboarding, artifact delivery, or native tracing. No deployment or model retry is part of this change. ## Risks A stricter creation check could reject a valid approval. Tests cover direct, conversational, checkbox, dismissed-card, and clock-skew cases. The check applies only to new tasks from the canonical onboarding run. It does not change existing task updates, execution policy, or wake recovery. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool use and code execution. The session does not expose a more specific serving model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): speed up task and inbox cold opens (#17756)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task lists and inboxes are the main entry points to that work. > - Cold opens fetch overlapping task lists, task descriptions, and run details before useful rows settle. > - Independent responses can insert rows above content that a person has started to read. > - This pull request loads a small task index first and adds details only for visible rows. > - It keeps row order and geometry stable while those details arrive. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Cold opens of Tasks and Inbox, including the shared navigation badge. **Subsystem affected** Server list reads, shared response contracts, and the React UI. **Current behavior** The badge fetches full task bodies. Mine fetches several overlapping lists. Historical diagnostics and row metadata add work before the first useful list. A fast failed-run response can appear before task rows, then move down when tasks arrive. **Proposed behavior** Load the selected inbox source and its required context together. Use an index without task descriptions or recovery diagnostics. Fetch diagnostic details for up to 50 visible rows. Keep skeletons, recovery indicators, external status, and live metadata in fixed space. **Reason and benefit** Reduce work on a cold open and prevent loading-induced row movement. On the same 100 local fixture tasks, the compact response was 262,441 decoded bytes and the index was 110,909 bytes. This comparison excludes compression and is not a page latency benchmark. **Breaking changes** Existing full and compact responses remain available. New index/row projections are opt-in and marked as partial data. Mine keeps its existing most-recent-100 display limit, now selected on the server. Existing filters and group preferences remain in the client. No database migration. **Additional context** Refs: #17593. Related: #13095, #17428, #13803. This change addresses collection overfetch and layout stability. It does not replace the blocked-inbox query work or the database activity-index work. ## What Changed - Add authorized index and row projections, with bounded task and parent ID batches. - Replace badge list downloads with unread IDs and aggregate counts. Preserve actor privacy, dismissals, and local archive behavior. - Load only the selected inbox source, plus bounded parent and failed-run context. Return only relevant failures from the bounded run window. - Batch hierarchy reads, including at most one authorized child per collapsed parent in one request. Collapsed markers do not consume the expanded row budget, and partial descendant counts are not shown as totals. Enrich visible rows without replacing membership, ordering, titles, or read state. - Reserve row geometry on desktop and mobile. Reveal the initial inbox only after its sources settle. Preserve legacy task-list reads. - Start collection module downloads during access checks. Keep partial rows out of the task-detail cache. - Keep ETags and concurrent request sharing for the new projections, but skip the short server response TTL so archive undo sees fresh state. ## Verification - On final head `ef6afb2a56`, the full CI workflow passed, including build, typecheck, server/workspace/runner suites, and all eight browser shards. A server shard reported **1,489 passing tests** before runner shutdown canceled the job; its single infrastructure retry passed. Both Greptile and Paperclip Review are **5/5**, with zero unresolved review threads. - The optional external **Entire Gates** check remains `unassessed` because it has no active assessed Change for this comparison. Entire is not set up in this checkout. The repository ruleset requires `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; both passed. No gate configuration was changed. - Passed workspace typecheck after the final API batching change. The full production build also passed on the final commit; the exact-retry E2E run built the shipped UI. - Passed token gates and map validation. The final batch-preview pass has 91 passing route/hierarchy/component tests, including privacy, request bounds, 30 collapsed parents in one read, and a 120-child parent alongside a sibling. - Passed the 166-test focused UI/inbox/badge run, 47 additional UI regression tests, and 34 issue-list route tests. The latest regressions cover low-trust agent badge IDs, cold company selection, 30 description-only Mine matches with archive actions, retrying optional row details, and collapsed/expanded siblings. - The full local `pnpm test:run` spanned the rebase and reported failures in five suites before it was stopped; it is not claimed as a complete pass. A fresh serial rerun of all five suites passed **452/452** tests (tool gateway, native resume, project repositories, workspace recovery, and runner selection). Full current-commit coverage is checked by CI. - Real browser: delayed index and row-detail responses on Tasks and Mine. The first placeholder and first row had the same origin and 44-pixel height. Twelve rows on each page had zero position, height, or title-width change after recovery details arrived. - Real browser: reviewed long titles and recovery status at a 390 by 844 viewport. Task text stays on one line and recovery uses a compact indicator. - Three fresh document loads per page on final commit `260893bf92`, with HTTP cache retained on a warm local development server: Tasks 1.031–1.190 seconds; Mine 0.999–1.193 seconds. Browser-control overhead is included. These values must not be compared directly with staging latency or the earlier local samples taken during a full test run. - The browser archive test exposed stale results after Undo. The new projections now bypass the server TTL; immediate-mutation regression tests pass. The final browser retry passed: Archive followed by Undo restored exactly one row and the badge count. - CI exposed a hook-order crash when company selection resolved after the first inbox render. The hook now runs before the empty-company return. All seven affected exact-retry and legacy-continuation browser scenarios pass locally after the fix. - Real browser review regressions: 97 description-only source matches retained Archive actions; deliberately failed optional row reads displayed a retry notice while all 12 observed row positions and heights stayed unchanged. Retry restored the recovery indicator. Network fault injection was removed. - The final production build and workspace typecheck passed. Final focused verification passed 153 UI/helper tests and 26 heartbeat privacy route tests. Final review regressions cover newer diagnostics arriving during the index read, reloading diagnostics when the same task ID changes version, optional source failure/retry without hiding available rows, and required external-status filter failure. The latest-failures route test verifies bounded selection, agent filtering, success suppressing an older failure, and private-run redaction. - Real browser: deliberately failed the run source, then retried it. Twelve available task rows kept the same position and 44-pixel height before, during, and after retry. No loading skeleton replaced them. Fault injection was removed. - Hierarchy review decision: the cold-open barrier stays because inserting ancestors or expanded children after revealing index rows would cause layout shifts. Existing hierarchy context now survives subsequent requests, with a regression proving a new ancestor read does not blank the list. The bounded recursive tree read can still add latency for unusually deep expanded trees. - Tasks now handles a failed external-status filter with an explicit error and Retry, suppressing a false empty state. All 52 Tasks component tests pass, including failure-to-success retry. One existing large-tree test timed out while workspace typechecking ran concurrently; the whole component suite passed when rerun without that competing work. Workspace typecheck, the full production build, and token gates passed for this fix. ## Risks - Saved filters and grouping still operate on the existing bounded collection. This is not a new global server pagination model. - Fixed row slots reduce available title width. Long titles remain accessible through task navigation. - Recovery and related diagnostics arrive after core rows. Their responses cannot replace ordering fields, and stale versions are rejected. - Index/row requests now revalidate against current data instead of a short server TTL. They still share concurrent reads and use ETags. - This has not been deployed by this pull request. Staging latency must be measured after deployment under comparable conditions. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, terminal execution, and real-browser diagnostics.
