test: consolidate owner fixtures and retain real regression proof (#16047)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tests protect sandbox execution, run recovery, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat the same setup and prove the same result more than once. > - These copies add maintenance work and can hide weak assertions. > - Each cut needs a retained test that proves every distinct contract. > - This pull request consolidates repeated setup and removes twelve redundant executions. > - It also replaces two weak assertions with checks of real outputs. > - The benefit is 2,831 fewer test lines with clearer regression proof. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression strength of the existing Vitest owner suites. **Subsystem affected** Sandbox adapter utilities, server heartbeat recovery and environment capabilities, and the board UI. **Current behavior** Tests copy database rows, query builders, render calls and runtime inputs. Some cases repeat an existing contract. One token test omits a real bridge credential. A PostHog host comparison can compare absent controls. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers with fresh values and the same action order. Keep each distinct contract in an owner test. Check real bridge credentials and fixed PostHog method states. Carry the exact persisted first-run success assertion into the stronger cancellation keeper. **Reason and benefit** The ten test files shrink by 2,831 net lines. Twelve redundant executions retire. All other case tables, inputs, security boundaries, timeouts and cleanup rules remain. **Breaking changes** None. This round changes tests and audit evidence only. **Additional context** Refs: #15978, the merged first cleanup. Refs: #16022, the merged prior cleanup. Its squash merge is `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Related open work: #14634 repairs feedback fixture completion; #14477 supplies explicit sandbox fixture tools; #14198 changes cleanup retry behavior in another heartbeat file. This audit preserves those separate action and cleanup contracts. It does not apply their changes. This PR was first stacked on `codex/test-audit-followup`. After #16022 was squash merged, only the two Round 6 commits were replayed onto merged master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. The original stack head is preserved in a local snapshot branch. The current diff contains only ten test files and two evidence files. No merge is requested. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated setup in three sandbox adapter suites. Remove seven redundant executions and retain the real protocol, cleanup and scratch-file checks. Save 875 lines. - Consolidate heartbeat database fixtures and read queries. Retain exact wake cancellation, total run count and the actual first-run success receipt. Remove one duplicate execution. Save 1,372 lines. - Remove two repeated rejected-capability cases. Carry the absent snapshot assertion into the retained runner case. Save 22 lines. - Consolidate UI fixtures and render calls. Remove two repeated connection cases. Replace the weak PostHog comparison with fixed method and required-key checks in both real hosts. Save 562 lines. - Record audit scope, decision and expansion counts, all twelve keeper mappings and deliberate mutation results in the [audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6.md) and [controls evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6-controls.json). ## Verification Source baseline: `a090035cafb29c06f6fca2dbe43561ad866b7c1b`. All ten original test programs are byte-identical at the stacked base `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa`. - Baseline: 1,841/1,841 cases passed in the main thirty-file owner/sibling run. Another 219/219 cases passed in nine extra files. - Preservation: all four proposal packages passed independent review. Whole-program helper expansion retains ordered inputs, callbacks, awaits, queries, fresh allocations and hooks outside the declared assertion migrations and repairs. - Candidate: all 2,048 cases passed across 39 complete owner/sibling files. The main run passed 1,831 cases. The extra run passed 217 cases. Both runs had zero failures and zero skips. - PostHog control: the repaired positive case passed. The original weak case passed with authentication choices removed. The repaired case failed at its fixed OAuth aria-checked assertion under the same mutation. - Eight accepted mutations failed at their intended assertions. They cover bridge-token exclusion, fallback cleanup, READY bytes, real scratch-file preservation, exact wake cancellation, the persisted first-run success receipt, rejected capability snapshots and reachable PostHog method controls. Two original weak cases passed with the same defects. All production source bytes were restored. - Rejected control: changing run status before legacy release timed out before wake cancellation. This result is not counted as assertion proof. Its replacement changed only the persisted receipt after real drain in the existing transaction. It failed at the direct fixed succeeded-row assertion. - No new code comments or 1,000-line threshold crossings were introduced. No production, schema, lockfile or workflow changes are included. On the exact final test sources, later committed as `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build` passed. The required full `pnpm test:run` completed with **exit 1** after **52.14 minutes** on clean, immutable `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`. HEAD and tracked sources remained unchanged. The first general-server group ran 889 files: **882 passed, one failed and six skipped**. Its 18,032 cases were **17,925 passed, two failed and 105 skipped**. The only failing file was `server/src/__tests__/remove-test-home.test.ts`. On macOS, the read-only runtime bundle and symlink cleanup cases returned `ENOTEMPTY`. The permission-error case expects `EACCES` or `EPERM`. Four reported failure entries cover these two cases, including their cleanup errors. The test and helper are byte-identical to previous master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and audit master `e364b92c82`. The default wrapper stopped after that group failed. **Later local groups did not run.** The earlier public-MCP, HTTP log redaction and workspace snapshot failures did not recur. The 39 focused owner/sibling files and all 48 remote CI jobs completed independently. This result is an unresolved macOS cleanup limitation, not full local success. No test, skip, retry, timeout or cleanup rule was changed to hide it. The three adapter files received a whitespace tidy after focused execution. Full runtime AST and string/template/regex byte equality link those tested sources to the final sources. All 134 adapter helper calls were checked again. Replayed code commit `3d3defd2a60595a623045d9e2c6c586f4acb3452` has the exact final test bytes. Evidence commit `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a` adds the report and controls JSON, with one historical ancestry clarification. All ten accepted test hashes and all seven production-owner source guards match. No package, lockfile, workspace, TypeScript, Rust or Vitest dependency manifest changed since the audit snapshot. The [original stack CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38312876910) passed all 48 jobs on head `c171d6c0d603d22bb997c1f9a9bdcd5bcc5d22aa`. Those results are historical stack proof. The [fresh master-context CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223856) completed successfully with **all 48 jobs passed** on current head `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a`. Its tested merge commit was `41292af60c6eb60d477637d23822bb17b08dc07e`, combining workflow base `88bf4c6c1d222f818faa56257efe79207c892a6c` with that head. The delivery commits remain based on pinned master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Both required master checks, `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, passed. Two separate optional Storybook checks were skipped by their scope gate. [Fresh Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16047#issuecomment-6133323165) gives the current head **5/5**, with no findings, inline comments or unresolved review threads. The [current-head commitperclip review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223666) also completed successfully. This PR remains open and draft; no merge is requested. The local macOS failure above remains unresolved. ## Risks - A helper could share a value or capture the wrong binding. Independent expansion and lexical binding checks guard the actual helper calls. - A retired case could contain a distinct assertion. Each cut has an exact keeper map and carried observations. - A mutation could fail before the intended assertion. Controls reject timeouts and earlier failures. The rejected receipt mutation remains in the evidence. - The delivery ancestry changed after the parent squash merge. Exact source hashes preserve the audited tests and producer receipts. Fresh CI and review passed in the current master context; the broad local run remains evidence from its immutable audit snapshot. - The complete local default failed in two unchanged macOS cleanup cases. Later local groups were not run. This limitation remains visible even though focused checks and remote CI passed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with this work. The exact served model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. It used repository tools, code execution, AST analysis and parallel audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(grok): verify file completion and recover failed sessions (#16305)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work and authority for AI agents. > - Grok Bot runs outside Paperclip and uses authenticated upload grants for files. > - Native completion requires a verified file publication receipt. > - The upload saved the file but did not create that receipt. Real Grok work could not finish. > - A failed run also left an assignment that the Stop action could not fence. > - This pull request connects verified uploads to normal completion and repairs that recovery action. > - The result preserves file integrity and current work-session authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16219, #16274. **What happened?** A real Grok Bot saved a task document and CSV. Semantic completion rejected the CSV because its upload had no verified publication receipt. After the managed run failed, Stop rejected its remaining assignment as a changed session. The driver also discarded the remote monitor's known failure reason. **Expected behavior** An authenticated upload of the exact requested bytes can satisfy normal completion. Stop can fence the remaining assignment of the selected failed run. An old Stop action cannot stop newer work. Known remote lease and reconnect errors remain visible without raw diagnostics or credentials. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Connect an experimental Grok Bot agent and verify its routine. 2. Assign a task that requires a document and a file. 3. Upload the file through its accepted assignment and cite the attachment in semantic completion. 4. Observe the missing publication receipt error on the previous implementation. 5. For recovery, select Stop after that run fails but its assignment remains active. **Paperclip version or commit** The live defects were observed after #16274. The current candidate merges master `739f9e40a4` and is `26c5b9601d1cb2b8f5bb7fcf730f019523763f5b`. ## What Changed - Record a server-owned publication receipt in the verified upload transaction. Bind it to the real native Grok run and exact stored file metadata. - Validate external publication against the actual upload and admitted assignment. Keep existing native and person upload rules. - Recover the committed receipt after a lost response. Reverify the same bytes when an older upload lacks proof. - Hold assignment authority through publication with grant-before-assignment and task-before-run lock order. Disconnect does not wait for remote file storage. - Allow Stop to fence the exact lingering assignment of a terminal run. Reject stale Stop calls for successor work. - Preserve only known lease/reconnect failure codes from the remote monitor. Do not expose raw stderr. - Extend real Rust, overlapping document/upload and disconnect/upload, file retry, completion and Stop regressions. Document setup, files and recovery. ## Verification - The real Rust Grok regression requests a file, checks an overlapping native document save, concurrent retries and lost-response recovery, rejects missing delivery evidence, then uses normal semantic completion and finalization. - Focused tests cover person MCP, native file handoff, completion, Stop and both external driver providers. - Local repository typecheck and production build pass on the current candidate. The five focused protocol suites pass (264 tests); all 17 external Runner driver tests pass, with the driver unchanged since the master merge. - Token gates and Storybook build pass. Nine existing Grok fixture journeys pass their browser interaction assertions; the static probe separately records five fixture API routes returning 404. This is UI fixture evidence only. - Full repository coverage passed in CI. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was interrupted after CI completed; its partial log is retained and is not reported as a local full-suite pass. The earlier aggregate invocation was interrupted for the second review fix. - All CI gates pass on `26c5b9601d1cb2b8f5bb7fcf730f019523763f5b`: 55 successful checks and two skipped Storybook jobs (no UI diff). This includes the complete sharded repository suites, native Runner, release checks, build and security scans. - Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved findings. The PR has no merge conflicts. - The prior live attempt is failed acceptance evidence. Real Grok requalification, proactive work, controller restart and active-session Stop remain release gates. This PR does not claim those passed. ## Risks - Upload and completion now share a durable run receipt. Lock order and current assignment authority must remain consistent with native mutations. - Publication fails closed if the file, run or grant changes. A retry must keep the same upload identity and bytes. - Person connections gain no agent authority. No database migration is required. - Known exit diagnostics do not prove global Grok termination. Grok spending remains unreported. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution and computer use. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): make external agent pairing codes copyable (#16274)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - External agents connect through the shared MCP agent gateway. > - Grok setup gives the operator a one-use code for the authorization page. > - The password field hides the code but does not provide a working copy action. > - The pending approval button names Dot before the agent preview loads. > - This pull request adds explicit code copying and a neutral approval label. > - The operator can review the fixed agent without sending credentials to chat. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16219, #15581, #15414. **What happened?** The Grok setup code is in a read-only password field. Ordinary browser copying does not copy that field. The shared authorization page says “Connect Dot with pairing code” before it knows the invited provider. These defects blocked a watched Grok desktop setup before approval. **Expected behavior** An operator can copy the one-use code with a visible control. The code stays hidden and outside the Bot prompt. The authorization page shows the registered client and the fixed company, agent, permissions, and authorizing person before approval. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Choose New agent, Invite an external agent, and Grok Bot. 2. Save the Bot identity and open Connect access. 3. Try to copy the masked code into the Bot's browser authorization page. 4. fix(voice): accept authenticated Cloud callers (#16254)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work through company-scoped tasks. > - Speko voice connections bind a caller to that work. > - Private voice routes must recognize an authenticated human caller. > - Cloud sign-in uses a trusted Cloud actor, rather than a local session actor. > - The voice caller check rejected that existing authentication type. > - This pull request accepts authenticated Cloud callers and retains the current access checks. > - Cloud users can load call history and start private voice sessions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15727, #15728, #15729. **What happened?** A signed-in Cloud user sees “Sign in to start a private voice conversation” when the Speko connection loads call activity. The same check prevents the user from starting a private voice session. **Expected behavior** The trusted Cloud user identity should have the same voice caller access as a local authenticated session. The current company and user identity checks must still apply. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Sign in to a Cloud workspace with experimental chat connectors enabled. 2. Connect a Speko persona to an existing agent. 3. Open its call activity, or start a browser voice session. 4. Observe the sign-in rejection despite the authenticated workspace session. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on the voice route in master at |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(voice): qualify Speko task conversations and Storybook surfaces (#15729)
Third PR: depends on #15728 and #15727. The user has reviewed and authorized merging this experimental feature stack. ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work through tasks and governed connections. > - Chat connections already bind external conversations to those tasks. > - Speko handles voice and telephony, while the selected Paperclip agent does the work. > - A call needs durable session authority, ordered follow-ups, and safe result delivery. > - This PR adds repeatable qualification for the Speko voice task integration. > - This PR depends on #15728, which depends on #15727. Speko stays experimental. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Phone and browser voice conversations cannot use the chat connection task lifecycle. A separate voice runtime is needed to preserve task authority, retries, and reply history. **Proposed solution** Add company-scoped voice sessions, signed callbacks, durable replies, inbound intake, and an agent-facing outbound-call tool. Reuse existing tasks, queues, secrets, and publications. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the experimental chat connector entry points under Agent Chat and Connected Apps. The project owner requested this feature. Refs #11418 for the original provider catalog proposal. This implementation uses the newer chat connection infrastructure rather than an MCP catalog-only integration. Refs #15721 for remote OpenCode startup. ## What Changed - Add a real Paperclip server/database E2E fixture that stubs only external Speko transport and the execution provider. - Add authenticated multi-user and cross-company qualification journeys. - Add Storybook interaction, accessibility, responsive, and visual-suite integration. - Add an E01–E16 runbook, component-to-story inventory, and current redacted qualification report. - Keep historical private call traces out of the PR. Provider proof tools are opt-in. ## Verification - All 21 standalone proof tests and browser client/server syntax checks pass. They cover signatures, redaction, cleanup retry, final audio saves, bounded report transport and late server write ordering. No live calls were placed. - All 27 focused UI/controller regressions, UI typecheck, token gates, and 28 map/catalog structural tests pass. The shared connection cache test covers pause/resume invalidation during the 30-second fresh period. - Storybook builds 157 Speko production-component stories. The complete prior 156-story set passed all 624 checks on UI source |

feat(runner): qualify Codex platform packages and cache hosted builds (#16028)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native execution needs a compatible installed daemon and provider dependency. > - The Codex-default work found missing platform packages and clean-install startup failures. > - Release builds also repeat dependency compilation and run preparation serially. > - This prerequisite packages four daemon targets and verifies installed native startup. > - It also caches hosted Cargo dependencies and overlaps JavaScript preparation with compilation. > - Agent creation defaults and experimental gates stay at the current master behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. Refs #15555. Refs #15422. Refs #15926. Refs #15932. Extract runtime and installation support from #15683. This prerequisite has 65 changed files. Creation, onboarding, imports, UI runner selection and graduation remain in the dependent PR. Feature/access maps and the Storybook source catalog stay synchronized. Existing agents keep their execution choices. ## What Changed - Correct the existing runner test fixtures. Reserve owned credential quorum listeners through the existing bounded fixture helper. Keep foreign listeners intact, run actual credential staging once, and preserve its rejection and unchanged-auth assertions. Reuse the durable-resume outer-limit correction. Wait for actual warm-completion and held-authorization callback entry under the existing recovery deadline and surface early request errors. Preserve every semantic assertion. - Retain bounded installation failure diagnostics through the existing qualification receipt upload. Keep the original error, 10-minute deadline and all success checks. - Keep startup ownership until credential preparation and registration drain. Reject duplicate and post-close startup/resume work. Observe shutdown during normal and adopted authentication readiness. Preserve the primary failure and retain private state when cleanup is unconfirmed. - Package Linux x64/ARM64 and macOS Apple Silicon/Intel daemons. Verify target headers, source identities, manifests, and hashes before assembly and installation. - Reuse the existing release producer/consumer workflows. Cache Cargo dependencies by target, OS, compiler, lockfile, and contract inputs. Rebuild workspace binaries. Permit trusted cache writes only for canonical exact-source master pushes. - Overlap JavaScript preparation with native compilation. Join both commands and failure/cancellation cleanup before artifact verification. - Preserve shell positional arguments in the shared SSH runner and apply environment assignments correctly. Reject environment option keys. Six before/after controls and two real SSH subprocess paths pass with zero provider calls; this fix lands before both Codex and Claude defaults. - Admit verified suspended SSH backups during cold controller continuation, using the same full-scope, integrity and lifecycle checks as sandbox targets. Two positive SSH cases fail before; all 14 positive/negative matrix cases pass afterward. Active ownership and corrupt/malformed/nonempty state remain rejected. - Record measured sandbox platform facts through the existing explicit environment probe. Bind facts to the company, effective provider configuration, immutable OCI image and actual captured image binding. Check the returned cleanup receipt. Reject client-authored proof and stale or named boot identities. Creation and discovery allocate nothing. Preserve connection-only behavior. - Resolve the actual remote Codex target and preserve same-host development overrides. Preserve runtime artifact verification. Use actual protocol/model compatibility rather than a numerical CLI version fence. - Resolve the installed Codex login dependency on 64-bit Linux and Mac independently of the daemon libc baseline. Preserve account homes and safe errors. - Fix actual clean-install TOML table comparison. Preserve strict semantic checks, comments, private writes, and malformed-input rejection. Preserve primary startup failures and bounded cleanup. - Document GNU libc 2.39+ and stock Ubuntu sandbox prerequisites. Qualify ARM startup with a scoped distribution profile and unchanged global restrictions. Preserve Windows and Alpine deferral. - Preserve selected and saved native Codex reasoning effort in the existing UI builder, while excluding it from other providers. This small shared correction prevents import edits higher in the stack from dropping effort. - Reuse existing installed-package checks and assertions. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex native payloads. Official npm dependencies supply the consumer's Codex binaries. All Docker and native builds stay remote. ## Verification Candidate: `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It includes current master `e168512f7bdbb6af6ea01954c6d7ed80b91e903e` and preserves prior candidates through ordinary commits. Current [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601686) is successful on attempt 2. GitHub reports 54 successful checks and four conditional skips, including required verify and browser aggregates, workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, both runner shards and [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601609). Fresh current-head Greptile is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. The passing build's clean Grok/Codex report records CI merge source `7a82a37438e6e448abc7cc5caa60dc2519a97be0`, 18 installed packages, omitted Codex payloads, official host-only npm dependencies and zero provider calls. Pi setup and its no-prompt lease verification also pass. The first attempt's single 60-second Node archive download timeout remains retained; its DNS/TLS/download cause remains unknown. One unchanged-source retry was requested through the normal Build-job dialog with debug logging disabled. GitHub's attempt 2 graph reports the other CI jobs as well; no second retry or source/deadline relaxation was made. The [final exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38347027535) is successful on literal `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly and clean installed consumers on Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64. The nine qualification-mode skips are intentional; full CI above covers their ordinary gates. Native builds and Docker assembly ran remotely. The predecessor [`dae808` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38342104102) remains literal historical evidence. Only tests and the dated record differ from that source; runtime, package and workflow code is unchanged. The reused credential fixture correction passes all 42 canonical Node 24 controls with synthetic data and independent matching-source review, and the current hosted runner shard passes. Production credential behavior is unchanged. **Merge hold:** current-source CI, fresh 5/5 review and exact-source package qualification pass. Actual code-owner approval and normal protected merge remain pending. No slice has merged or deployed. GitHub CLI authentication needs refresh; the normal signed-in embedded GitHub UI provided this status without credential workarounds. - The master merge preserves both Storybook source-review appendices and the guarded test-home cleanup. All six existing cleanup controls pass without skips. Master's isolated-home helper/test/setup are byte-identical. The two existing whitespace lines in master's unrelated privacy test remain outside this PR's diff. - Canonical Node 24 passes all 24 existing public-install helper tests. Three narrow added cases prove bounded/redacted failure metadata, symlink exclusions, original exception identity, failed diagnostic writes and no false failure on success. The Mac installer now uses `--timing`; at most two 16 KiB tails and 32 structured entries per tail enter the existing receipt upload. Raw argv, URLs, environment, error text and stacks are omitted. A failed receipt explicitly remains FAILED/unqualified/runtime-not-attempted. The 600,000 ms install deadline and every real package/hash/payload/lock/lifecycle/runtime oracle are unchanged. - Canonical Node 24 reproduces the durable-resume outer timeout under controlled fake latency. Only its outer test limit changes to 15 seconds; internal 500 ms/5 second deadlines and usage/effect assertions remain. Controlled warm-recovery and before-bootstrap authorization scheduling delays reproduce their callback polling failures, while the explicit entry signals pass. Early recovery errors surface unchanged. Independent review is clear. Historical mock binaries support the fixture controls; fresh full hosted CI remains decisive. The original hosted callback failure cause is inconclusive. - The composed runner/surfaces/server/E2E TypeScript checks pass. Map checks pass 35 areas/171 capability IDs. Token gates pass. The existing Storybook catalog passes 223 files/2,210 stories; story IDs and classifications remain intact. The current master had 25 inherited stale fingerprints from three changed map recipes. Only those guarded fingerprints and a source-only review note change; all 92 non-map story/component/fixture inputs remain unchanged. Existing classifications are retained. This proves source structure, not visual or live acceptance. - The 65-file contribution audit has no code file crossing from below 1,000 lines to above the limit. Earlier comment cleanup preserves executable emissions, parsed workflows and action pins. Independent cleanup/catalog and three-file reporting reviews are clear. No new workflow, suite, grader or local native/Docker build was added. **Prior `dae808` gate evidence:** fresh Greptile is 5/5 with four resolved threads, isolated native compilation and the browser aggregate pass. Its first runner shard passes the previous two corrections but fails a different held-authorization cell at the implicit one-second polling deadline. It records 1,672 passes/one failure/three skips. This candidate applies the verified entry-signal correction without changing production deadlines or any semantic assertions. Its original hosted cause remains inconclusive until fresh CI. **Previous-source evidence, kept literal:** the [exact `16a532` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38338806076) passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly, Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. Its fresh review is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. Full CI records 52 successful checks, four conditional skips and the two fixture failures corrected here. This is not a green full-CI candidate or proof for the new source. `64c074fb8da1b31f8d6042c4fef48dc4164e759b` passed [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726938), 54 checks/four conditional skips, [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726787/job/115085895328), and fresh Greptile 5/5/all four resolved threads. The hosted transport suite passed 246 tests and startup trust passed 22, closing that source's local fake-binary limitation. These are historical after reconciliation. The [previous exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332921463) built all four platform daemons and passed public Linux package assembly plus Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. **Intel Mac failed:** its initial scripts-disabled npm install timed out before lifecycle/runtime assertions. The underlying download/resolution/host cause is unknown because the old helper deleted the npm logs. This is the concrete baseline for the diagnostic change. The failed campaign remains failed; no all-platform signoff or automatic retry is claimed. The earlier `a200495` [four-target campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38283695248) and [scoped ARM qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38291535914) remain component evidence. Cargo restores were cold misses; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads. Official npm dependencies supply Codex on the user's platform. Current-source full workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, static/Rust/native tests, all browser shards and exact-source package consumers must pass. New-agent defaults and final managed onboarding belong to #15683. Actual private Cloud composition, warm/cold signup, task/follow-up and rollback compatibility remain later release gates. Source audits found that ordinary managed onboarding does not run the saved platform probe and Cloud distributes named snapshots without a verified final boot-image binding. These dependent release blockers remain open; prequalified E2E fixtures do not close them. Master adds task-workspace migrations; the final image/migrator and previous-image checks must include them. ARM paid task/follow-up and ordinary OS APT installation are not proven. ## Risks - Multi-target packages require source and header agreement. Missing or mismatched artifacts fail explicitly. Existing execution choices remain unchanged. - Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+ and compatible sandbox prerequisites. The scoped hosted ARM preparation does not qualify arbitrary containers or kernels. Windows, 32-bit ARM, and Alpine remain deferred. - Only dependency crates are cached. Preview jobs cannot write trusted caches. Concurrent command cleanup must preserve the primary failure. - Native-free Paperclip packaging retains official Codex npm dependencies. No Codex payload bundling, schema migration, automatic agent migration, or production deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and parallel agents. The exact serving model snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(chat): extract delivery, reaction, and setup boundaries (#16024)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Chat channels connect that work to provider conversations. > - One shared service contains callback, delivery, reaction, and setup logic. > - These responsibilities have distinct contracts and existing public-path tests. > - This PR moves ten cohesive responsibilities into focused modules. > - The service retains shared runtime ownership and scheduling. > - Provider behavior is easier to locate and review. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15995, #16026, #16027, #16030, #16031, #16035, #16037, #16038, #16041, #16043. This PR consolidates the reviewed extraction stack. The plan is `doc/plans/2026-10-12-chat-channel-delivery-boundaries-refactor.md`. ## What Changed - Move Slack callback verification into the Slack folder. - Move Discord Gateway events and root-thread admission/recovery into the Discord folder. - Extract durable receipt reactions and inbound reaction admission/replay. - Extract inbound attachment ingestion and outbound integrity-checked hydration. Preserve the public hydration export. - Extract durable provider effects. Keep Telegram callback notices in the Telegram folder. - Extract conversation/activity reads and setup qualification. Keep Slack and Teams projections in their channel folders. - Preserve the merged managed Slack setup behavior, shared workers, credential leases, and transaction boundaries. - Reduce `chat-channels.ts` from 26,493 lines / 1,048,769 bytes to 21,460 lines / 862,284 bytes. This removes 5,033 lines from the service. ## Verification - Each extraction passed its selected existing tests before and after through public service paths. - On updated master, all 55 selected Slack cases passed before extraction. All 194 selected chat/managed-Slack cases passed on the final stack tip. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, module-boundary checks, and whitespace checks passed on that tip. - The normalized syntax audit verifies 69 moved declarations and all retained statements, including their relative order, against updated master. - The eight earlier stack merges retain the exact validated repository tree. The combined root equals the validated tip merged with current master. All chat-channel files remain byte-identical to the validated tip. Current combined-root CI and review are pending. - Full local verification remains unverified. The unchanged `workspace-git-snapshot-streaming.test.ts:56` stress test timed out at 300,000 ms in a clean run and again in isolation. The full run was stopped after the reproduced failure. No timeout or assertion was weakened. - These checks use assembled services, real local databases, and provider fixtures. They do not prove live third-party execution. Reviewers can run the public-path suites: ```sh pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts server/src/services/chat-outbound-attachment-hydration.test.ts server/src/__tests__/slack-development-manager.test.ts ``` ## Risks - Factory wiring must preserve live values, shared state, and initialization order. Identity-link construction retains deferred access to the provider-effects callback. - Credential fences, authorization transactions, and delivery settlement must keep their original ordering. Syntax parity and public-path integration cases cover these boundaries. - Full local verification has the recorded Git-streaming timeout. The combined PR must pass master’s required CI before merging into master. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test: remove repeated setup and strengthen regression proof (#16022)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its tests protect company boundaries, approvals, durable tasks, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat large database fixtures and render frames. > - Some tests repeat stronger proof or pass when the behavior they describe is broken. > - This pull request shares exact setup, removes proven duplicate cases and repairs weak observations. > - It preserves distinct security, lifecycle, concurrency and user-facing contracts. > - The benefit is 5,027 fewer test lines and stronger regression checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15978. This continues the merged test-audit cleanup in [PR #15978](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15978), which removed 11,976 test/support lines. The savings in this pull request are additional. Related open work: [PR #13460](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13460) changes legacy OAuth parent/version lock ordering. This pull request retains those production paths and the existing lock-order test. Its secrets changes compact fixtures and repair the two AWS wrapper exclusion observations. Scoped title searches found no open duplicate audit or fixture-consolidation PR and no matching audit issue. The problem is described here using the enhancement template. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression value of the existing server, UI, CLI, shared and wiki-plugin test suites. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting test code. Two UI modules also lose unused test inspection exports. **Current behavior** Owner tests repeat database rows, service inputs, HTTP setup and render frames. Some cases repeat stronger assertions. Two AWS lock tests record only cleanup events, so an AWS provider write can happen inside the held lock without failing those observations. Several other negative tests accept or do not observe the wrong result. Worktree fixtures also use a temporary path alias that conflicts with the existing canonical-path checks on macOS. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers that preserve exact inputs, fresh allocations, callbacks, query order and await positions. Remove only cases with named stronger keepers. Tighten negative assertions and observe actual AWS provider entry while a confirmed lock holder remains parked. Resolve temporary fixture roots to their canonical paths. **Reason and benefit** Remove 5,027 net test lines and 15 redundant registered executions. Remove 11 lines of unused UI inspection exports. Keep every distinct company, actor, approval, credential, persistence, stale-write and concurrency contract. No wall-time speedup is claimed for setup compaction. **Breaking changes** None for application behavior, APIs or stored data. The removed exports expose private UI test state and have no remaining callers. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated runtime, workspace, portability, route, tool-access, policy, gateway and state-service fixtures. - Share repeated UI render frames and CLI/wiki-plugin setup while retaining the original actions and expected results. - Remove 15 repeated case executions only where the audit records an exact stronger keeper. - Repair weak HTTP/UI negative assertions and two AWS account-home lock observations. Keep the existing durable results and cleanup behavior. - Remove the unused `__inflightGetCount` and `__secondTickInternals` inspection exports. Keep observable request coalescing and ticker lifecycle checks. - Canonicalize temporary worktree fixture paths without weakening production path checks. - Record the owner decisions, savings, independent preservation reviews and validation in [the dated audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-rounds.md) and [the compact control evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-controls.json). ## Verification - Complete owner and retained-sibling baselines passed before each audit cutover. Independent reviewers checked the full original tests, actual helper bodies, exact inputs, receipt provenance, async order, fresh allocations and case registrations. - All 14 UI/route/wiki mutations failed at their intended assertions: ten UI/API/ticker controls, one route control and three wiki persistence/receipt controls. Each mutated production source was restored to its exact original bytes. - Both old AWS lock tests passed with their respective AWS-only lock bypass. Both repaired tests failed at the intended assertions with the same bypasses. These give 16 intended failures and two passing weak controls across 18 executions. Each source was restored exactly. - Final complete state-owner/sibling run: 329/329 passed at code revision `64370831ebe191e5ce092f85f79b6fb661df7e16`. - Final `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build`: passed at the same code revision. - Delivery head `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa` includes the evidence commit and master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded`. All 27 audited test files and both application files match the locally verified code revision byte-for-byte. Current-head CI validates the integrated branch, including the incoming master changes. - All eight production-owner SHA guards for the 16 deliberate failing mutation controls still match the integrated delivery checkout. The mutation receipts therefore apply to those current owners. - Full default `pnpm test:run`: **failed** with exit 1 at frozen code revision `64370831ebe191e5ce092f85f79b6fb661df7e16`; HEAD and tracked source bytes remained unchanged. The first general-server group reported 878 passing files, four failing files and six skipped files; 17,846 passing cases, 24 failing cases and 105 skipped cases. Later groups did not run. Failures were `http-log-redaction` (socket hangup), `public-mcp` (initial 15-second timeout followed by hosted token “Refresh before subscribing” failures), `remove-test-home` (macOS `ENOTEMPTY` where permission errors were expected, plus cleanup failure), and `workspace-git-snapshot-streaming` (300-second timeout). All four failing test files and the relevant cleanup/MCP production owners are unchanged by this audit. Full local success is not claimed. - Focused complete-owner diagnosis at the same frozen revision: 149/152 passed, three failed, zero skipped. `public-mcp` passed 82/82 and `http-log-redaction` passed 66/66 unchanged. The two `remove-test-home` cases reproduced macOS `ENOTEMPTY` against an expected `EACCES`/`EPERM` contract; the 32 MiB workspace snapshot case reproduced its existing 300,000 ms timeout. HEAD and tracked files stayed clean. Exact blob comparison confirmed all four test files and the relevant cleanup/MCP owners match both inspected master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and the frozen local revision. The three remaining local failures are unresolved; no timeout, retry or assertion was weakened. - Current-head CI: [workflow 38299262149](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38299262149) has passed runner selection and created all downstream test/typecheck/build gates; those gates are queued, with no failures reported. Greptile completed successfully at `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa` with [5/5 and zero comments](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16022#issuecomment-6131457592). All review threads are resolved or absent. This pull request will remain open after verification. Reviewers can reproduce the required workspace checks: ```sh pnpm -r typecheck pnpm check:token-gates pnpm test:run pnpm build ``` Browser suites were not run. Their sources and user journeys are unchanged by this audit. ## Risks - A fixture helper can hide a specialized input or change object freshness. Full-program expansion checks and independent reviews preserve the exact old inputs and execution order. - Removing duplicate proof can remove a distinct contract by mistake. The audit records the keeper for each deletion; all distinct security and lifecycle cases remain. - Concurrency checks can miss progress during a fixed delay. The AWS repairs record actual provider entry, confirm holder entry, use measured entry windows, require exact final event order and drain both operations in `finally`. - The full local default run failed. Focused diagnosis reproduced two macOS cleanup failures and one existing snapshot timeout in unchanged owners; these remain unresolved. Current-head CI is pending. No test deadline, retry policy, skip or CI shard was weakened to obtain a pass. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-6, reasoning, repository inspection, code execution and delegated audit/review. refactor(chat): extract channel status, receipts, drafts and authority workflows (#15995)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Chat channels connect that work to provider conversations. > - Provider workflows still fill the shared service. > - Their authority and recovery rules need clear homes. > - This PR lands five reviewed extractions into channel folders. > - Shared authorization, state and worker lifetime stay explicit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15976, #15996, #15999, #16001 and #16002. This root PR now contains all five extractions from batch three. The four upper PRs were merged into their parents. The combined tree matches reviewed stack head `789e918b5af49ec1958076ce4d22d31006205302` exactly. ## What Changed - Extract Slack session status and accepted-file receipt recovery. - Extract Telegram publication drafts and Stop handling. - Extract Photon events and native responses. - Extract Teams file-transfer authority. - Reduce `chat-channels.ts` from 29,897 to 26,461 lines (3,436 lines, 11.5%). - Preserve function bodies, runtime-map identity, leases and transaction boundaries. ## Verification - All 117 selected public-service cases passed before and after their respective extractions. - All 30 moved declarations and remaining service statements preserve normalized syntax across the five slices. - Server typecheck, module boundaries and whitespace checks passed. - Cumulative `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. Combined-head CI and review are pending on `5de1b0b99d71049a72440e8c131bf4bb30bdf3f3`. - Fixtures exercise assembled services and disposable databases, not live third-party providers. - Cumulative local `pnpm test:run` on `789e918b5af49ec1958076ce4d22d31006205302` exited 1: 32,414 passed, 125 skipped, one failure. `company-skills-routes.test.ts:1691` (`stars, forks, and comments on skills through company-scoped endpoints`) failed with `socket hang up`; that test and its route are unchanged by this stack. The same 58-case suite then passed in isolation without code changes. The original command did not reach 111 later serialized suites; its failure is retained, so the full-local-test checklist remains unchecked. ```sh pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t 'Slack session|Slack turns to Idle|signed Slack session stop|denies guest Slack stops' ``` - Combined-head CI attempt 1: five runners received a shutdown signal at 19:13:08 UTC (server shard 10/12, serialized shards 2/9 and 7/9, E2E shards 3/8 and 7/8). These jobs stopped during execution without a failing test assertion. [Original workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38293566028). The affected jobs will receive one unchanged retry after the other jobs finish. ## Risks - Changes cross durable provider recovery and authority boundaries. The moved bodies preserve syntax, and 117 focused public-service cases passed before and after their extractions. - Shared workers, timers, runtime maps and generic authorization remain in the service. - The full local test run failed in an unchanged company-skills route test; its result and the unrun suites are recorded above. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(chat): isolate Telegram, Slack, GitHub and Discord workflows (#15976)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Chat channels connect that work to external conversations. > - The shared chat service still contains provider-specific workflows. > - Those workflows are hard to inspect in a 34,000-line file. > - This stack extracts Telegram, Slack, GitHub and Discord workflows into their channel folders. > - Shared authorization and service lifetime remain explicit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15823, #15834, #15836, #15844 and #15845. Root of the second behavior-preserving channel-folder refactor stack. The dependent PRs #15979, #15981, #15985 and #15987 have merged into this branch; this PR lands all five extractions on master. ## What Changed - Move Telegram maintenance and subscription repair into `chat-channels/telegram/maintenance.ts`. - Move Slack session stopping and task starts into `chat-channels/slack/session-stop.ts` and `task-start.ts`. - Move GitHub webhook intake and recovery into `chat-channels/github/webhook-ingress.ts`. - Move Discord command registration and handling into `chat-channels/discord/commands.ts`. - Share type-only runtime records while preserving shared authorization, transactions, live lease checks and worker ownership. - Reduce the original service from 34,603 to 29,897 lines, removing 4,706 lines (13.6%). ## Verification - All 205 selected integration cases passed before and after their respective extractions: Telegram 41, Slack session stop 2 multi-step scenarios, GitHub 84, Slack task start 25 and Discord 53. Each dependent PR records its focused reproduction command. - Server typecheck, module boundaries and whitespace checks passed. - Per-slice syntax comparisons passed for moved declarations and remaining service statements, allowing only the documented live callback substitutions. - Tests exercise the public service with disposable databases and fixture provider transports. They do not claim live third-party execution. - Cumulative workspace typecheck and build passed on the final stack. - Current-head CI passed on the combined stack commit `d5b37dbe512e3e199932b6608cdc17639eda555a`; Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - The [original serialized shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38266518817/job/114870022249) timed out in unchanged `adapter-auth-signal-routes.test.ts`. The exact case passed locally without changes, and the [single job retry](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38266518817/job/114874019933) passed. The original timeout remains recorded. Reproduce the original Telegram slice’s focused suite: ```sh pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t 'Telegram durable private draft Stop|Telegram maintenance|Telegram webhook|Telegram.*(pause|remove)|Telegram.*commands' ``` - Cumulative local `pnpm test:run` exited 1: the first server group had **18,770 passed, 105 skipped, and one timeout** in unchanged `server/src/services/workspace-git-snapshot-streaming.test.ts:56` (300,000 ms on macOS). The fail-fast runner did not reach its later workspace and serialized groups. An unchanged isolated rerun passed using the existing timeout; this does not turn the original full run green. The test and its Git utility code are outside this refactor; all current-head CI jobs passed. - Reproduce that diagnostic alone: `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/workspace-git-snapshot-streaming.test.ts`. ## Risks - Credential lease ownership and provider-confirmation ordering must remain unchanged. Existing rotation, lease-loss, recovery and durable Stop cases pass. - The channel factories create no workers or timers and preserve live runtime, shutdown and gateway-ownership reads. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used.

Preserve repository dependencies when importing GitHub skills (#15731)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its Skills library imports reusable instructions from GitHub. > - Some skills depend on shared files and sibling skills outside their folders. > - Directory-only imports lose those dependencies. > - This pull request keeps repository files together and lets users select which skills appear in the library. > - Agents receive the original files and paths through the existing skill delivery system. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14713. Related: #13656. **Current behavior** GitHub imports copy independent skill directories. Shared scripts, policies, helper skills, and credit files can be omitted. One shared-file error can block every skill. **Proposed behavior** New imports keep repository files together at the scanned commit. Show all skills with their folders and select every skill by default. Collapse individual package files. Omit unsupported or oversized files with a warning. Import available content without repair choices or an extra confirmation. Keep warnings on the saved source. **Reason and benefit** Skills can read their shared repository files after Paperclip delivers them to an agent. Original instructions stay unchanged. Users can inspect included files and understand omissions before and after import. ## What Changed - Store immutable company-scoped repository snapshots and associate them with skill versions. Regenerate the migration after merging master. - Preserve original bytes, binary encoding, and executable modes. Shared-file changes version each usable selected skill. Pinned versions retain their original files. - Deliver a discovery wrapper with the original tree under `.paperclip-repository/`. Preserve invocation policy when present. Fork and create-from-existing retain repository files. - Keep repository files together for new UI imports. Show every skill, select all by default, and collapse package files. Remove the packaging-mode menu. Keep the mobile import footer visible. - Warn about symlinks, submodules, oversized files, missing references, and invalid optional manifests. A malformed skill remains selected with a Needs setup warning. Usable skills still publish, and its original file remains repository support content. Source warnings persist through refresh. Unsafe execution and secret-disclosure findings omit the affected files before snapshot publication. - Expose saved repository files in the installed skill viewer, including binary encoding and executable flags. Reads use the immutable company-scoped snapshot; relative instruction links resolve from their original repository directory. - Audit delivered inventories and derive trust from all repository files. Accept evaluation prose while retaining dynamic-execution findings. Read blobs in one bounded Git batch and check budgets before reading support files. Imports never execute setup commands. - Add scanner, database, delivery, UI, and browser regressions. Update Storybooks, screenshots, and documentation. ## Verification - 69 focused scanner, Git snapshot, delivery, and PostgreSQL lifecycle tests passed. They cover partial imports, warning persistence, missing references, binary files, executable modes, copies, pinned versions, cancellation, company isolation, and batched Git reads. - 110 import, skill-detail, selection-tree, saved-file link, and Markdown renderer tests passed. A file-switch regression failed before the resolver fix and passed afterward. Browser walkthroughs cover the all-selected open tree, repository preview, non-blocking warnings, missing references, setup problems, warning persistence, and mobile layout. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. Runner E2E TypeScript checks and design-token gates passed. The full serial local suite was attempted and stopped after over an hour. The existing 40,000-file Git streaming stress test failed after 303 seconds on macOS; the broad local suite is not counted as passed. All 55 applicable PR checks passed on the final commit, including the full sharded CI suite. Two optional Storybook workflows were skipped; the five local Storybook walkthroughs passed. - On October 12, live campaigns imported the private Poteto repository through the production GitHub Sources UI, selected architect and bro, and invoked them with native Codex on local and Daytona. The source connection was disabled before invocation. Independent filesystem inspections matched every supported Git blob, size, and executable mode. Both tasks completed and cleanup passed. Campaigns: `local-2026-10-12T15-07-39-504Z` (both environments), `local-2026-10-12T16-08-39-682Z` (local), and `local-2026-10-12T16-03-33-938Z` (Daytona). Each of the two selected skills received all 234 supported repository files. Later changes only affect the installed-file viewer and documentation. This qualifies skill delivery and instruction reads, not every Poteto workflow or adapter. - A manual source-checkout test drive imported a synthetic private GitHub repository with a symlink, an oversized file, a missing reference, and malformed skill metadata. Available skills published with their shared checklist. The walkthrough found duplicate warning text after import; the final UI fix removes that duplicate. The file viewer exposes saved repository dependencies and resolves authored relative links without changing the instructions. A follow-up live refresh omitted unsafe helper files with warnings, preserved every safe file byte, and survived a server restart. Screenshots below use the production UI with Storybook fixtures. They do not replace the live GitHub and runtime checks. <details> <summary>All skills visible and selected by default</summary> </details> <details> <summary>Import stays available with warnings</summary> </details> <details> <summary>Repository file inspector</summary> </details> <details> <summary>Mobile import</summary> </details> ## Risks - Each selected skill carries a repository copy in the runtime. The database stores each snapshot once. Runtime transfer and storage increase with the number of assigned skills. - Runtime budgets remain: 9,990 repository entries, 1 MiB per file, and 61 MiB total. File omissions are recorded as warnings. Source-access or download failures retain installed versions. - Import success does not prove that every skill can run. Environment dependencies, credentials, delegation tools, and schedules still need configuration. Imported setup scripts are not executed. - Live runtime coverage is native Codex on local and Daytona. Other adapters use the shared delivery path but were not exercised in these campaigns. The roadmap marks Skills Manager as shipped. This extends the existing importer. Related pull requests were checked. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code execution, automated tests, and browser tools. The exact deployment identifier and context-window size were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

refactor(chat): extract failed-run retry coordination (#15845)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and sends results back to chat. > - A failed chat run can be retried only while its original source remains authorized. > - That decision includes persisted source evidence and native runtime state. > - Retry claims also share in-flight promises and depend on service shutdown. > - This PR groups retry authorization, execution and notices in one module. > - The service retains the live admission, runtime and shutdown boundaries. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15844, #15836, #15834 and #15823. Stack slice 5 of 5, based on `codex/chat-publication-replacement`. Merge each predecessor first, then retarget this PR. Do not merge the stack out of order. Stack order: #15823 (provider messages) → #15834 (resource reconciliation) → #15836 (identity links) → #15844 (publication replacement) → #15845 (failed-run retries). GitHub native stack merging preserves this order and automatically restacks the remaining branches. ## What Changed - Extract failed-run retry admission and coordination while keeping the in-flight map, cursor, error class and authority registrations scoped to one chat service. - Move the exact Teams uncertain-file continuation proof into `microsoft-teams/file-transfer-source.ts`. - Pass the existing transaction, explicit source identifiers and denial factory. Return only the proven publication ID. - Keep committed-result, complete source-batch, ancestor and other-uncertain-effect checks in shared `failed-run-retry.ts`. - Keep native execution recovery together; its provider references describe runner backends, not chat channels. - The retry coordinator is 1,825 lines and the Teams proof is 149 lines. Restack on revised #15844 and record the reassessment. ## Verification - Baseline: 59 retry cases and six negative Teams authority cases passed. The combined 65 cases passed after the move. - Cases cover retry ownership, service restart/lifetime, ambiguous Teams receipts, sibling unknown effects, changed source authority and active attempts. - Teams guard, joins, locks, attempt checks and selected ID match after explicit input substitutions. The shared coordinator retains its state and cleanup ownership. - Server typecheck, module-boundary and whitespace checks passed. - Integration uses disposable databases and fixture provider transports; no live third-party execution is claimed. - Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 on `4f7151409717458717633aa270441a8faf33664e`, with a successful check and no open review threads. - Final-stack `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed at `57ec5ba94aecd860471f9b14db46f99120c7c790`. - All CI checks passed on `57ec5ba94aecd860471f9b14db46f99120c7c790`. - Full local `pnpm test:run` stopped in the general-server group: 18,763 passed, 105 skipped, and one test timed out after 20 seconds in unchanged `workspace-runtime.test.ts` ("does not accept an occupied allocated port when listener ownership is unavailable"). The same case passed in an isolated rerun without code, assertion or timeout changes (1 passed, 175 excluded). The original timeout is retained as a failed full run; later workspace and serialized groups were not reached. The full local gate remains unverified. - Merge verification on the restacked tree: 118 focused identity, publication, Photon and retry integration tests passed; server typecheck and module-boundary checks passed. GitHub’s rebased trees exactly match the previously reviewed file contents. - All current-head required checks passed on `4f7151409717458717633aa270441a8faf33664e`: full CI; Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Authorization must remain fail-closed across committed output and retry admission. The helper proves only the Teams transfer; the caller still checks the complete source and result in the same transaction. - In-flight promises, error-class identity, registration cleanup, cursor state and the live shutdown getter must remain per-service. Their code is unchanged by this channel-folder move. - This PR depends on #15844. Merge and retarget in stack order. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(chat): extract publication replacement decisions (#15844)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip publishes agent progress and results back to chat. > - Some updates replace an earlier message while others need a new message. > - The current outbound link and task generation determine that authority. > - These decisions are spread through the large chat service. > - This PR groups publication replacement and supersession decisions in one module. > - Reviewers can follow those decisions without reading provider transport code. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15836, #15834 and #15823. Stack slice 4 of 5, based on `codex/chat-identity-links`. Merge the predecessor first, then retarget this PR. ## What Changed - Extract shared publication replacement and supersession queries from the large service. - Keep exact outbound ownership, run/wake scope, consumed progress, interaction replacement and retained-source authorization together. - Put the iMessage typing-versus-progress policy in `imessage-photon/publications.ts`. - Preserve endpoint lookup timing and all ownership query bodies. The multi-provider close allowlist remains shared dispatch metadata. - Restack onto the revised #15836 and record why this boundary remains mostly shared. ## Verification - The same 49 existing publication and Photon integration cases passed before and after the provider-policy move. Other cases were excluded by the filter. - Cases cover close-owned progress, ambiguous delivery, interleaved Slack control, Telegram confirmation, FIFO replacement and Photon channel behavior. - Server typecheck, module-boundary and whitespace checks passed. Only the iMessage predicate/reason moved; ownership queries are unchanged. - Historical server shard 2 hit a cleanup deadlock; its unchanged [isolated rerun passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38134431077/job/114457999409). [Original failure](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38134431077/job/114455332022). - Tests use disposable databases and fixture provider transports, not live third-party execution. - Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 on `8e2da97b6dc11eb446128b61c789edb529c50d5a`, with a successful check and no open review threads. - Final-stack `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed at `57ec5ba94aecd860471f9b14db46f99120c7c790`. - Historical pre-restack CI failed on `ci / General tests (server (11/12))` and its aggregate `ci / verify`. All 1,255 tests passed, but worker-exit cleanup in unchanged `server/src/__tests__/setup-supertest.ts:32` failed with EACCES removing a temporary `paperclip-vitest-home-*` directory. The [original job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38256549828/job/114836065382) and the [single unchanged rerun](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38256549828/job/114839735273) failed the same way. No further reruns were requested. After GitHub automatically restacked the branches, the full cumulative run on #15845 passed this server shard. This middle PR uses the repository’s policy-only stack CI scope; the top PR runs all suites. - The final full-local-suite outcome for this cumulative stack is recorded in #15845; do not infer that gate from the focused tests above. - Merge verification on the restacked tree: 118 focused identity, publication, Photon and retry integration tests passed; server typecheck and module-boundary checks passed. GitHub’s rebased trees exactly match the previously reviewed file contents. - All current-head required checks passed on `8e2da97b6dc11eb446128b61c789edb529c50d5a`: policy CI (middle-stack scope; full cumulative suites passed on #15845); Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Splitting shared ownership queries per channel would duplicate authorization rules. They remain in the shared module. - Preserve the issue-to-run lock order and retained-source callback. The factory creates no worker or mutable state. - This PR depends on #15836. Merge and retarget in stack order. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(chat): extract identity linking (#15836)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip connects provider identities to company members. > - A confirmed identity determines whose permissions apply to chat messages. > - Token consumption and membership checks must remain atomic. > - These operations currently share the large chat channel service. > - This PR moves identity linking into one module with explicit runtime callbacks. > - Reviewers can inspect the complete identity-link flow together. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15834 and #15823. Stack slice 3 of 5, based on `codex/chat-resource-reconciliation`. Merge the predecessor first, then retarget this PR. ## What Changed - Extract company-scoped identity linking into shared `identity-links.ts`. - Move Slack connect receipt queries, access requests and confirmation-notice staging into `slack/identity-links.ts`. - Move GitHub identity fields into `github/identity-links.ts`. - Preserve shared token consumption, link locks, membership checks and revocation. - Stage the Slack notice inside the original confirmation transaction. Schedule delivery after commit. Keep runtime and public URL callbacks live. - Restack on the revised resource PR #15834 and record the architectural reassessment in the plan. ## Verification - Four existing service integration cases passed before and after. The Slack connect case covers discovery, preview, access requests, duplicate requests, member confirmation, provider notice, consumed tokens and endpoint isolation. - Receipt queries, the access-request transaction and notice payload match the previous implementation with explicit parameter substitutions. - Server typecheck, module-boundary and whitespace checks passed. - These are local database and fixture transport tests, not live Slack execution. - Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 on `7b44962f09fe8043c77ed40e05f761f31c64b33c`, with a successful check and no open review threads. - Final-stack `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed at `57ec5ba94aecd860471f9b14db46f99120c7c790`. - All CI checks passed on `62ee045a4728da2d756be3d2e40d13e592a0b5a9`. - The [original workspace shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38256203686/job/114834873234) timed out waiting for the CLI import/export test server health endpoint. Its [single unchanged rerun passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38256203686/job/114838954081). The original timeout remains part of the evidence. - All current-head required checks passed on `7b44962f09fe8043c77ed40e05f761f31c64b33c`: full CI; Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Confirmation must retain transaction and token ownership. The Slack helper receives the existing transaction and stages the same effect; scheduling remains after commit in the shared coordinator. - This PR depends on #15834. Merge predecessors and retarget before merging this PR. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. refactor(chat): extract resource reconciliation and availability (#15834)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Chat resources control which provider destinations can admit that work. > - Inventory updates and lifecycle callbacks must preserve company scope and operator choices. > - These rules share a large service with runtime and credential ownership. > - This PR extracts resource reconciliation and its availability transaction. > - Reviewers can inspect resource changes together while the service retains runtime control. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15823 (merged). Slice 2 of 5 now targets `master`. Remaining order: #15834 → #15836 → #15844 → #15845. ## What Changed - Extract shared resource inventory, audited selection and availability settlement from the large service. - Put GitHub repository parsing, rename/transfer repair, webhook recovery and listing in `github/resources.ts`. - Put Telegram group migration in `telegram/resources.ts`, using the coordinator's existing transaction and timestamp. - Put Slack labels, Teams IDs and Photon participant parsing in their channel folders. - Keep lease assertions, delivery settlement and the resource upsert between Telegram migration steps in the shared coordinator. - The shared module is 598 lines; provider resource modules total 409 lines. Update the dated plan with this reassessment. ## Verification - On updated master, 15 existing resource integration cases and one Telegram migration case passed before this folder move. The same 16 cases passed after. Other cases were excluded by the filter. - Eight moved declarations and three transaction blocks match the prior implementation. The GitHub provider guard remains in the caller. - Server TypeScript, module-boundary and whitespace checks passed. Rebuilt plugin SDK types after rebasing onto current master. - Historical browser shard 8 timed out on inbox retry; its unchanged [rerun passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38134430238/job/114457529315). [Original failure](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38134430238/job/114455332214). - Tests use local disposable databases and fixture provider transports. No live third-party execution is claimed. - Fresh Greptile review is 5/5 on `e914f532ca66c429125492c1723df38afc6e13d7`, with a successful check and no open review threads. - Final-stack `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed at `57ec5ba94aecd860471f9b14db46f99120c7c790`. - All CI checks passed on `e914f532ca66c429125492c1723df38afc6e13d7`. - The final full-local-suite outcome for this cumulative stack is recorded in #15845; do not infer that gate from the focused tests above. ## Risks - Resource identity and migrations depend on lock and write order. Provider modules use the original transaction; statement order and credential fencing remain unchanged. - Shared selection and availability still contain provider dispatch predicates. They coordinate common state transitions and should remain shared. - Full local tests and current-revision CI remain required for a green handoff. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(chat): extract provider message normalization (#15823)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and keeps their work attached to company tasks. > - Chat providers deliver messages and corrections into those tasks. > - The chat channel service has grown to 39,155 lines. > - Provider message normalization has no database or worker ownership of its own. > - This pull request moves that responsibility into one module while preserving the service body. > - Reviewers can now find provider identities, timestamps, and edit revisions together. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Maintenance of inbound chat message normalization in the server. **Subsystem affected** Server chat channels. **Current behavior** Provider message parsers and identity rules share a 39,155-line file with credentials, runtime ownership, database admission, and publication workers. **Proposed behavior** Move provider message normalization into `chat-channels/provider-messages.ts`. Keep service exports and runtime behavior unchanged. **Reason and benefit** This creates a clear first boundary for an incremental refactor. A dated plan ranks the next four larger extractions. No duplicate chat refactor was found in the GitHub title search. **Breaking changes** None intended. No schema, endpoint, transport, or public service API changes. Stack order: #15823 (provider messages) → #15834 (resource reconciliation) → #15836 (identity links) → #15844 (publication replacement) → #15845 (failed-run retries). Merge in this order; retarget each child after its predecessor lands. ## What Changed - Move provider message parsing into `chat-channels/telegram/messages.ts`, `slack/messages.ts`, `discord/messages.ts`, `microsoft-teams/messages.ts` and `github/messages.ts`. - Keep shared actor normalization, actor data and the inbound text limit in `chat-channels/message-lifecycle.ts`. These six modules total 566 lines / 19,534 bytes. - Import provider modules directly. Follow this provider-folder convention for future extractions. - Preserve exact actor IDs, edit hashes, timestamp provenance, and Telegram message identity rules. - Narrow two input types to the Teams parser method and the retained delivery fields actually read. - Reduce `chat-channels.ts` from 39,155 lines / 1,509,090 bytes to 38,643 lines / 1,491,703 bytes. - Record five ranked extraction candidates and verification evidence in the dated plan. ## Verification - The original extraction passed complete CI and 5/5 review at `cbba30a526`. Those results are historical; the updated head is `90ac517e6c310c8cf194dbbd668006f740e58f3a`. - Structural comparison: all 21 moved declarations match the base after normalizing exports and two type-only changes. All remaining non-import declarations, including the complete service body, match the base. - Provider-folder update: the same 48 public service integration cases passed locally before and after the move on PR #15823. They cover Slack/Discord revision identity, Teams edits, GitHub edits, Telegram rich messages and provider chronology. - All 22 message declarations retain identical bodies; the service changes imports only. The four dependent extractions rebased without conflicts. - Final-stack workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. Module-boundary and whitespace checks passed. - Final-stack `pnpm build` passed. The fresh `pnpm test:run` was interrupted after PostgreSQL startup failures recurred. An isolated `native-status-arbiter-corpus.test.ts` run failed during database initialization after five attempts; all 45 tests skipped. All 32 host shared-memory slots were occupied. The full local gate remains unverified; only the task-owned run was stopped. - Greptile rated updated head `90ac517e6c310c8cf194dbbd668006f740e58f3a` 5/5 with no inline review threads. - Updated-head CI passed: 53 successful checks and two skipped checks, including all chat integration shards, typecheck, build and browser suites. - Tests use disposable databases and fixture provider transports. No live third-party execution is claimed. ## Risks - A wrong module import or changed revision identity could affect message admission. Existing service-path tests and the declaration comparison cover those risks. - Authentication, company-scoped transactions, leases, background workers, and shutdown remain in the original service. - The service closure remains large. Resource reconciliation is the recommended next extraction. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, local code execution, and repository tools. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No separate planning or review agent was used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(chat): stop polling provider action and session sync queues (#15822)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat stores pending provider actions in durable database rows. > - Three action queues still scan every second when empty. > - These scans keep idle databases active. > - This pull request wakes those queues after a commit or at their next deadline. > - Empty queues stop querying while existing recovery rules remain in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15808, #15802, #15625. Related sleep work: #15750, #15757. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Provider messages and notices, accepted GitHub webhook receipts, and Slack session status synchronization. **Current behavior** Chat maintenance scans these three queues every second. It also rechecks paused Slack sync rows every 30 seconds. **Proposed behavior** Reuse the transaction-aware action workers and existing chat_actions rows. Wake after commits. Restore unfinished work on startup. Use stored retry and stale-claim deadlines. Stop scanning when empty. Park paused Slack sync rows until an endpoint change. ## What Changed - Add three topics to the existing action worker registration. No tables, migrations, triggers, or external services. - Signal producers, claims, retry updates, terminal settlements, and operator resolution inside their owning transaction. Provider I/O remains outside transactions. - Share pending-state and deadline predicates between dispatch and scheduling. Exclude terminal history and uncertain provider sends. - Preserve GitHub receipt attempt fences and provider-send quarantine. Preserve Slack's 30-minute refresh while a session is processing. - Remove these workers from periodic app maintenance. Update the sleep inventory and add regression coverage. ## Verification - Passed: 13 focused tests across scheduler, app wiring, and real PostgreSQL integration. Covers actual commit wakes with deferred fast paths disabled, GitHub retries and startup recovery, stale-send quarantine, Slack publication-to-sync delivery, paused deadlines, and idle queues. - Passed: pnpm typecheck. - Passed: full chat integration and related coordinator suites, **1,274 tests across five files**. - Passed: pnpm build. - Greptile: **5/5**, no actionable findings, completed on `dc284cd275e5f6df624d60b27954421f2bcdbee2`. - Hosted CI: **54 checks passed**, two intentionally skipped Storybook checks, no failures or pending checks on `dc284cd275e5f6df624d60b27954421f2bcdbee2`. Provider responses are simulated. PostgreSQL, transactions, service dispatch, and scheduling are real. No live Slack or GitHub App was used. ## Risks - Writers must emit the existing process-local transaction signal. Independent database clients and direct SQL still need explicit integration or startup recovery. - Accepted GitHub receipts are covered. Finding callbacks GitHub never delivered still uses the separate provider recovery lane. - Other chat maintenance and persistent transports still run. This does not establish whole-instance sleep. - Existing claim, revision, credential, and authorization checks remain authoritative during concurrent foreground and scheduled dispatch. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with repository inspection, code execution, and automated tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(chat): wake action queues from commits and deadlines (#15808)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat keeps durable rows for provider actions and setup messages. > - Five action queues still scan the database every second when empty. > - Empty scans add idle database traffic and prevent cost savings from sleep. > - This pull request wakes these queues when their writes commit or their next deadline arrives. > - Existing rows retain retry and restart recovery. Empty queues stop scanning. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15802, #15625, #15750, #15757. Related allocation work: #15153. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Idle chat reconciliation for Slack Board messages, Slack slash-command task starts, Slack setup verification messages, receipt reactions, and Slack session stops. **Current behavior** The app runs these five queue scans through chat maintenance every second, including when no work exists. **Proposed behavior** Each queue has an independent worker on the existing scheduler. Producers and foreground claim/retry/settlement writes announce work inside their database transaction. The worker wakes after the outer transaction settles. Startup restores durable work. Shared dispatch and deadline predicates select real retries and abandoned claims. Empty queues disarm. **Subsystem affected** Server chat services. No schema or migration changes. ## What Changed - Register five action workers alongside the three delivery workers from #15802. Remove their scans from periodic app maintenance. - Share action eligibility between dispatch and deadline selection. Park paused Board messages and task starts until endpoint changes. Preserve uncertain-send quarantine. - Wake setup verification after account, welcome, registration, or authenticated callback changes. Exclude prerequisites that need another event. - Persist a retry time for failed provider-confirmed task admission. Its own commit notification cannot cause an immediate retry loop. - Reuse the existing transaction signals and scheduler registration code. Provider calls remain outside database transactions. - Update the instance-sleep inventory and add scheduler and PostgreSQL regression coverage. ## Verification - Passed: 37 scheduler, coordinator, and app-wiring tests, including an idle hour with no further scans or timers. - Passed: seven focused PostgreSQL chat cases. These cover deadline eligibility, startup recovery, outer-commit wakes, actual producer signals, and signed-callback verification without maintenance polling. - Passed: `pnpm typecheck`. - Passed: full chat integration suite and related publication/coordinator tests, **1,278 tests** across six files, including **1,228 chat integration cases**. - Passed: `pnpm build`. - After the review fix, seven focused PostgreSQL integration cases and the server typecheck passed again. Deadline and dispatch queries now exclude completed action history. - Greptile: **5/5** on `35a979fce6bb9ab910fab3373ec8e537fc2d01a9`, with the prior finding resolved and no new findings. - Fixed a CI timing failure in the GitHub mention integration test: asynchronous admission now has an explicit ten-second assertion deadline instead of the default one second. The failure reproduced locally; all five mention variants and all 398 cases in the matching CI shard pass after the fix. - Hosted CI passed on `35a979fce6bb9ab910fab3373ec8e537fc2d01a9`: **54 successful checks**, two intentionally skipped Storybook checks, no failures or pending checks. Provider responses are simulated in the integration suite. PostgreSQL, transactions, service dispatch, and scheduling are real. No live Slack workspace was used. ## Risks - Every producer that changes runnable state must emit a transaction signal. This change covers the five queues and their foreground dispatch/retry paths. Direct SQL and independent DB owners still need explicit integration or startup recovery. - Missing retry or claim deadlines can strand work. Tests compare the dispatch and deadline behavior, including paused and uncertain states. - Other provider maintenance, sockets, and scheduled jobs remain. This change does not establish full instance sleep. - No new tables, migrations, or provider credentials are required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with repository inspection, code execution, and automated tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add company fast-response acknowledgements (#15748)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Human messages start agent work through task, chat, and external-channel intake. > - Agent startup can delay the first visible response. > - A small direct model call can acknowledge the request while normal work starts. > - This response must remain separate from evidence that the agent answered or completed work. > - This pull request adds optional company-wide fast responses with durable receipts, access checks, and cost accounting. > - Users receive prompt acknowledgement without changing the agent execution path. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: database, shared contracts, server orchestration, connections, and UI. **Problem or motivation** Users can wait for an agent to start before they receive a contextual response. Generic progress messages do not confirm what the user asked. An acknowledgement must not falsely complete work or satisfy an unanswered turn. **Proposed solution** Add a disabled-by-default experimental fast-response model using an existing shared API connection. Generate one short acknowledgement for each accepted human turn. Use the existing agent identity and external publication outboxes. Retain platform provenance and account for the inference independently. **Alternatives considered** Running the acknowledgement through the agent runtime adds startup latency. Restricting implementation to OpenRouter leaves other existing API connections unsupported. This change supports all existing API connections and uses OpenRouter for live verification. **Roadmap alignment** This extends existing agent communication and connection settings. ROADMAP.md and open pull requests were checked. No duplicate fast-response implementation was found. The maintainer supplied the feature plan directly. ## What Changed - Add Experimental fast responses to instance settings. Keep the feature off by default. Enforce the flag at intake, dispatch, and publication. - Move Decision model and Fast response setup to company Settings → Connections when the experiment is enabled. Place Connections below Environments. Separate the model sections with clear headings and a divider. Keep Decision model in General when the experiment is off. Route Costs setup links to the available settings page. - Make the acknowledgement prompt a multiline template string. Ask for a brief, positive response in the user’s language. - Add settings, connection/model selection, sponsorship, fixed-sample testing, and Costs history. - Add a Vercel AI SDK text service for existing native, routed, Bedrock, and local API connections. - Add durable per-turn requests, a bounded worker, a three-second admission deadline, and one inference attempt. - Integrate task creation, task and agent chat, steering, queued follow-ups, experimental board chat, shared chat intake, and email. - Preserve receipt provenance and exclude receipts from completion, recovery, interaction resolution, and agent wakeups. - Recheck authorization, source validity, real replies, budgets, and destination binding before publication. Preserve accounting for suppressed or uncertain outcomes. - Add provider contracts, database race tests, channel outbox tests, UI tests, Stories, and documentation. Keep decision-model execution unchanged. ## Verification - Local `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and UI token gates pass after rebase. The UI typecheck and build also pass after the final navigation fixes. All 37 focused navigation tests pass. The first full local `pnpm test:run` invocation reported seven chat failures. All seven passed in isolated reruns after fixture updates and host cleanup. This invocation was stopped after the full final-head CI suite passed. - Initial local database tests hit macOS shared-memory exhaustion. A diagnostic confirmed `shmget: No space left on device` with the system limit of 32 IDs. Three abandoned, unattached PostgreSQL IPC headers were reclaimed. The isolated rerun passed all 31 fast-response and channel tests. The two additional Slack regression cases also passed in a separate rerun. No active database was stopped. - UI token gates pass. Provider contract tests cover all supported API connection types. Fast-response tests cover uniqueness, authorization, budgets, expiry, cancellation, restart, real-reply races, and the experimental flag. - The test drive verified that disabling the experiment hides Connections and redirects its direct URL. Enabling it restores the saved OpenRouter setup. After restart on the final commit, the OpenRouter settings sample returned “Sure, I’ll take care of fixing the border around the settings panel.” in 428 ms. It used 260 input and 31 output tokens and recorded $0.0000576 in reported cost. - Earlier live OpenRouter verification produced a receipt in 1.013 seconds for a new task. The real agent then supplied its substantive answer. A separate settings test took 1.34 seconds, used 246 input and 23 output tokens, and recorded $0.0000361. - Live Slack verification on final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` passed for a fresh initial task and a follow-up in a disposable bot DM. The initial acknowledgement appeared 2.405 seconds after the Slack message and 1.413 seconds after durable acceptance; the follow-up appeared in 2.322 seconds and 1.160 seconds respectively. The recorded generation/settlement durations were 898 ms and 697 ms. The initial call used 291 input / 39 output tokens and cost $0.00006705; the follow-up used 281 / 47 and cost $0.00007035. - The Slack acknowledgements retained the assigned agent identity and `origin: fast_response`, source-turn references, and no fabricated run ID. A status snapshot after the initial receipt showed the task still `in_progress` with its real execution run. The agent then read the CSV fixture and correctly reported two ready items, two blockers, and their owners. Both replies stayed in the originating DM, and no duplicate generic working message followed the delivered contextual acknowledgements. The `new` command started a fresh conversation session without generating a fast response. - An earlier eligible Slack turn generated a response but suppressed publication. Its reported cost was retained, generic progress remained, and the real agent completed the requested result. This is recorded separately from the two delivered acknowledgements; the history did not expose a precise suppression reason. - Slack verification used real signed provider events, the existing intake/publication paths, and a user-approved temporary webhook-only HTTPS tunnel. Subscriptions were limited to direct-message events. The test bot was paused and the tunnel stopped afterward. Live channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified; their mocked tests cover intake, destination binding, publication, and continued underlying work. - Greptile reviewed final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` at 5/5. Both new review findings are fixed and all threads are resolved. [Final-head CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38060015730) passed. This includes grouped server/chat/workspace tests, serialized suites, runner checks, browser journeys, typecheck, build, release registry, policy, and the canary dry run. - Manual check: enable Experimental fast responses. Open company Settings → Connections. Select a shared API connection and model. Save and use Test response. Submit a task message and confirm that its receipt does not complete the task. ## Risks - The migration adds receipt and configuration tables plus accounting references. It uses idempotent statements and follows the current migration sequence. - A slow provider, authorization change, or real-agent reply can suppress an acknowledgement. Existing progress feedback remains available. - Unknown provider billing retains a reservation until reconciliation. External deliveries with uncertain outcomes must not be blindly repeated. - Live Slack initial-task and follow-up DM journeys pass. Live Slack channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified. The PR remains a draft and records these gaps. Final-head repository CI and automated review pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser interaction. The runtime does not expose an exact model snapshot ID or context-window size; these are not asserted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(chat): wake delivery queues from commits and deadlines (#15802)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat connectors store incoming messages and outgoing publications in durable queues. > - The app checks these queues every second, even when they are empty. > - Empty scans keep the database active and hinder instance sleep. > - This pull request wakes three queue workers after transactions settle and at known retry or recovery deadlines. > - Empty queues stop scheduling checks. Existing rows retain their ordering, retry, and recovery rules. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Idle database activity from incoming chat deliveries, outgoing publications, and Slack upload receipt recovery. **Subsystem affected** `server/` — chat delivery and background work scheduling. **Current behavior** The app's one-second chat timer scans the three queues together with provider and action maintenance. Empty queues continue to query PostgreSQL. **Proposed behavior** Register three independent workers with the existing delivery coordinator. Producers announce work inside their database transactions. Commit wakes the corresponding worker. Startup restores outstanding work; persisted retries and stale claims supply the next deadline. An empty queue has no recurring scan. **Reason and benefit** Remove avoidable queue reads without requiring a new table, an external scheduler, or a persistent PostgreSQL listener. **Breaking changes** No schema or public API change. Work notifications are scoped to the app's shared database owner. Direct SQL and independent database roots do not send these notifications; startup still scans durable work. **Additional context** Refs #15625, #15750, and #15757 for the preceding sleep work. Related: #15153 reduces chat query allocation while retaining polling. This PR changes when the three queue workers run; it does not add query caching. ## What Changed - Register independent incoming delivery, publication, and Slack receipt workers on the shared scheduler. - Add transaction work signals at queue writes, endpoint state changes, and action transitions that unblock publications. Keep provider I/O outside the added transactions. - Restore deadlines from durable retry times, abandoned claims, and publication lease expiry. Share publication and receipt eligibility rules between dispatch and deadline queries. Respect incoming conversation order and lifecycle dependencies. - Exclude publications blocked by unresolved Slack tool sends. Wake them when the tool receipt changes. - Wake publication dispatch when an endpoint send finishes so free slots refill. Preserve per-endpoint concurrency, conversation order, and conservative handling of uncertain sends. - Wake receipt recovery when a stale publication becomes `delivery_unknown`, and wake queues when a provider connection recovers. - Commit interaction publications with their callback tokens so dispatch cannot see an incomplete card. - Keep provider runtimes, other action outboxes, milestone and wake-notice projection, Teams protocol maintenance, GitHub recovery, and Slack session synchronization on their existing maintenance cadence. This PR does not make the whole chat subsystem idle. - Update the instance sleep inventory with this partial migration and its remaining work. ## Verification - All 1,225 PostgreSQL chat integration cases passed across the three hosted chat shards. These cover retry and lease deadlines, blocked followers, unresolved Slack sends, provider recovery, commit visibility, and endpoint slot refill. - 32 local app-wiring, queue-worker, and delivery-coordinator tests passed after updating the wiring assertion for event-driven dispatch. Fake timers cover an hour of idle time without queue scans. - Related publication, interaction, receipt, and wake-notice tests passed locally. The 13 interaction integration cases include atomic rollback when callback-token storage fails. - Local `pnpm typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and final server typecheck passed. All hosted checks passed on the final commit, including build, typecheck, test shards, release registry checks, and the canary dry run (54 successful checks; two Storybook checks skipped for this backend change). - The last local PostgreSQL rerun was skipped because the embedded database startup probe failed after five attempts. The hosted PostgreSQL cases ran successfully; their skips only partition cases across shards. - `git diff --check` passed. Greptile is 5/5 on the final commit with no unresolved findings. ## Risks - Every producer that makes queued work eligible must send a transaction work signal. The tests exercise commit visibility, concurrent wakes, worker failures, and restart recovery. Future direct SQL writers must participate in this contract. - The existing database work-signal layer reconciles uncertain transaction outcomes. This PR adds no work-signal table or schema migration. - Provider and action maintenance still polls. Further changes are required before an idle chat-enabled instance can sleep. - Tests use real PostgreSQL with simulated provider responses; they do not send messages through live provider accounts. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(server): schedule browser cleanup only while sessions exist (#15757)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Hosted instances must become quiet when they have no work. > - Browser Use queried its session table every three seconds, even when empty. > - Existing session rows already store the next poll time and cleanup lease. > - This pull request uses commit signals and those saved deadlines to schedule cleanup. > - Empty instances stop browser database scans. Live sessions keep their safety checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Browser Use background cleanup and recovery. This follows #15625 and #15750. **Subsystem affected** server/ — REST API and orchestration services. **Current behavior** The app scans for due sessions every three seconds, including instances that have never used Browser Use. **Proposed behavior** Scan once at startup. Wake after session creation, provider-create settlement, stop requests, or credential-removal cleanup. Schedule the next check from `nextPollAt` and `leaseUntil`. Stop scheduling when all sessions are terminal. **Reason and benefit** Remove empty database traffic so idle stacks and their database connections can become quiet. **Breaking changes** No API or schema change. Running and idle sessions retain provider polling, cost accounting, access checks, expiry checks, and cleanup retries. ## What Changed - Register browser cleanup with the existing work coordinator. Remove the app's three-second interval. - Signal existing session transactions before writes. No new tables or provider infrastructure. - Restore deadlines from live sessions and their leases. Wake after a credential-removal sweep releases its lease. - Wait for concurrent cleanup instead of returning while it still runs. Drain and standby preserve deferred work. - Add scheduler tests and database-backed commit and restart coverage. Update the connector guide and sleep inventory. ## Verification - Passed: focused browser worker and shared coordinator tests, 17 tests. - Passed: browser lifecycle, route-scope, viewport, and transport tests, 50 tests. The lifecycle suite uses real local Postgres and a simulated provider. - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. - Passed: all hosted test groups for this commit. Started full local `pnpm test:run`, then stopped its duplicate serial run after the complete hosted sharded suite passed; no full local-suite pass is claimed. - Passed: direct server TypeScript check. Greptile reviewed `99c3217a2dea505be94081e729941e542e6fbc03` at 5/5 with no findings. All 54 applicable hosted checks passed; the two Storybook checks were skipped because this PR has no UI changes. ## Risks - Process-local signals cover services that share the instrumented database owner. Independent processes and direct SQL writes require startup recovery; this does not add cross-process notification. - Live sessions still poll. This removes empty scans; it does not make a running hosted browser sleep. - Cleanup uses the existing provider protocol and lease fences. Tests simulate the provider; no paid live browser was created for this scheduling change. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(server): wake email work from commits and deadlines (#15750)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Email connects agent tasks to durable incoming and outgoing messages. > - The email worker scans the database every second, even with no inboxes. > - These queries prevent idle database connections from closing. > - This pull request wakes email work from committed writes and known deadlines. > - Empty email installations stop polling. Existing delivery and catch-up guarantees remain. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15625. Related standby work: #15314. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The AgentMail background worker and its database traffic when idle. **Current behavior** Every instance queries active email endpoints each second. Active inboxes also scan delivery queues each second even when no work is due. **Proposed behavior** Scan once at startup. Wake after endpoint and queue transactions settle. Restore the next retry or catch-up deadline from existing rows. An instance with no active inboxes has no recurring email queries or timer. **Reason and benefit** Thousands of empty instances should not keep their databases awake to discover that email is still unconfigured. ## What Changed - Use the shared transaction-aware coordinator for email work, including changes made by separate service objects on the same database owner. - Signal endpoint activation and control changes, incoming events, and outgoing sends inside their transactions. - Add an optional deadline to the coordinator. Email uses persisted retry times, mailbox catch-up times, and socket reconnect times. Only the first pending send in each conversation determines its send deadline. - Preserve startup recovery, lease fences, idempotency, standby suppression, idle drain, and shutdown. - Update the sleep inventory and add quiet-idle, commit, activation, retry, and lifecycle tests. ## Verification - Focused coordinator, email idle, and warm standby tests: 20 passed locally. - Database-backed email integration suite: 41 passed locally with real PostgreSQL and a simulated AgentMail provider. - After review, the updated delayed-reply regression passed separately: 1 selected test passed, 40 intentionally filtered out. It verifies no scans before the first reply deadline and delivery of both replies in order. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed locally. - The local `pnpm test:run` was interrupted after its checkout was removed externally. Completed local checks above are preserved. The [final-commit hosted CI matrix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37997072212) passed: 54 successful checks, 2 expected Storybook skips, no failures. It includes the full general and serialized test matrix, runner checks, browser tests, build, typecheck, and canary packaging. - Greptile: 5/5 on `ec98f3b86ee476d75e0edf3366b357377ea09d69`, with no actionable findings. ## Risks - New email producers must register work inside their write transaction. No new tables or migrations are required. - Signals are local to one database owner and its dedicated pools. Independent processes and direct SQL do not emit them. Startup recovers existing work; configured inboxes also retain their recovery deadline. - Active inboxes still catch up each minute. WebSocket mode still renews its lease every 20 seconds. This change does not provide external waking or make active sockets sleep. - Provider calls were simulated in tests. No live email was sent. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and test tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use. > - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository access. > - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that connection hard to finish. > - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve creation and repository access. > - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials, signature verification, and task admission. > - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway, then completes setup in the stack. > - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat connector opt-in does not control them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub replies. **Current behavior** Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment. **Proposed behavior** Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent. Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit. **Breaking changes** GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters. Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual existing-App recovery remain supported. Companion gateway: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard was found. ## What Changed - Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog, routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue running when the UI setting is off. - Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts, known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App recovery. - Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage, installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and outbound local delivery. - Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than creating another App route. - Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot. - Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking Board messages or questions. - Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions, numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs. - Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor. - Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest 100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery, authorization, UI, and browser regressions. - Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar, feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port. ## Verification - Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it passed without changing the code. - Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the attachment suite. - Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview, and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI shard. - GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests, delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and company boundaries. - Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable qualification database was removed after testing. - Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot execution authority. ## Risks - Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and tenant binding. - Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations that already applied the earlier draft migration number. - A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed review. Runtime checks remain separate. - Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools remain opt-in. - Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and agent. - Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without granting new installation access. - A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text; the governed outbox retains its evidence. Deleted or replaced response comments are not recreated through a personal credential fallback. - GitHub logo upload remains an optional human action in GitHub App settings. Runtime provisioning, delegated setup, screenshot publication, and production push delivery remain deferred. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with tool use and code execution. feat(dot): run cloud assignments in managed sandboxes (#15691)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and governs their work. > - The Runner owns execution and task authority. > - Dot executes at OpenAI and uses Paperclip through MCP. > - Dot previously required a self-hosted controller. > - Cloud must admit Dot work in a managed sandbox and keep protocol traffic in the tenant. > - This pull request adds managed Dot execution and dedicated pairing routes. > - The same Runner path can later host sandboxed workspace tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** OpenAI Dot, through the existing dedicated MCP adapter. Related changes: #15402, #15414, and #15581. **Why this adapter is useful** Cloud users need to assign work to Dot and let Dot request work while idle. Neither path should execute agent commands on the control-plane host or require an idle sandbox. **How the agent is invoked** The tenant serves OAuth, signed mailbox events, and scoped tools. Normal admission creates a managed sandbox for each assignment. A verified Rust Runner owns that assignment and relays its tools and results. ## What Changed - Enable the external-agent invitation in Cloud behind the standalone Dot flag. - Launch Dot through the existing managed process launcher and authenticated PRP transport. - Verify the artifact digest and Dot capability before dispatch. Read provider checkpoints from the execution target for recovery. - Reject local execution in Cloud and reject managed workspace access for this release. - Add dedicated public Dot pairing aliases. Preserve the personal assistant consent paths. - Keep Dot events in the tenant when a personal Cloud broker is configured. - Use the app-configured heartbeat for Dot-initiated work. Report terminal admission failures and fence stranded offers before new admission. - Offer normal comments through the active assignment's mailbox. Keep their wakes deferred until a successful history receipt contains the exact IDs; preserve unread comments through finish, batching and recovery without replaying consumed input. - Require a sandbox process fingerprint before dispatch and allow a bounded five-minute controller reconnect gap. Preserve remote process birth without inspecting a colliding controller PID. - Recognize authenticated remote shutdown receipts even without an OS exit code. - Document dedicated pairing aliases and teach route coverage to inspect literal path arrays. - Add opt-in private Daytona qualification and focused contract tests. ## Verification - Workspace typecheck, production build, and UI token gates passed. - Focused onboarding, OAuth, managed environment, artifact metadata, and terminal-fence tests passed. One environment-test timeout passed on an isolated repeat. - A private Daytona fixture passed with the real Rust Runner, signed readiness, assigned app tools, document writes, duplicate receipts, authority fences, completion, and sandbox deletion. - A real OpenAI Dot completed both an operator-assigned task and a Dot-initiated task in managed Daytona sandboxes. Both leases were released. - A real accepted Dot assignment survived a controller gap longer than one minute with the same sandbox process, Runner, session, and assignment. Dot consumed the normal task-comment follow-up and completed exactly once; the lease was released. - A real cancellation fenced an accepted assignment, released its lease, and received Dot's acknowledgement without claiming a global provider stop. - Final local checks: 74 Dot execution, OAuth onboarding and API contract tests after integrating the current agent-lifecycle changes, 9 real Rust driver tests, 21 remote-runtime tests plus the 3 detached-process cleanup tests, and 17 lifecycle tests passed. The final live Daytona fixture passed and deleted its sandbox. - A final real Dot follow-up stayed pending until its exact comment appeared in a successful history receipt. Dot completed the original managed assignment once; its lease was released. - The broad local suite crossed a rebase and was stopped; its failures are not a qualification of this final source. Focused repeats passed. The final head passed all CI gates: workspace types, build, general and serialized test suites, Rust and Runner verification, all browser shards, and the canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with both findings resolved. ## Risks - Deploy the tenant app with its current Linux Runner artifact and the corresponding front-door protocol routes together. - This branch has not been deployed to a Cloud tenant. A deployed tenant still needs an OAuth and assignment smoke test. - Dot provider usage and cost are unmetered. Revocation fences Paperclip tools and does not prove a global OpenAI stop. - Missing or changed recovery identity fails closed. No replacement Dot thread is invented. - No schema migration is added. Managed Dot workspace access remains unavailable. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser testing. The exact runtime model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(server): wake delivery queues from transaction-aware work signals (#15625)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI-agent work and its delivery to users and agents. > - Five delivery queues scan the database even when empty. > - Each queue already has durable rows; empty polling wastes idle hosting capacity. > - Producers can register intent inside their existing database transaction. > - Central transaction tracking can wake consumers after the outer commit without extra caller wrappers. > - A lost response needs reconciliation against PostgreSQL before an empty queue is safe to leave idle. > - This change uses one scheduler for outstanding work and lets settled, empty queues go quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Supersedes the closed #15614. Related idle-safety work: #15522 and #15599. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Delivery scheduling for feedback exports, chat completions, connection continuations, question answers, and tool-action receipts. **Current behavior** Feedback scans every five seconds. Four delivery queues scan on the heartbeat interval, normally 30 seconds. Startup and some event paths also scan them. **Proposed behavior** Each producer awaits one intent registration before its queue write. The existing `createDb` transaction boundary tracks nested savepoints and wakes the consumer after outer settlement. Startup scans restore durable work. Pending rows, failures, and unresolved transactions retain retry deadlines. Empty, settled queues have no timer or recurring scan. **Reason and benefit** Normal delivery starts after commit. Central tracking removes caller-specific post-commit plumbing. PostgreSQL transaction status resolves lost responses without new tables or a permanent uncertainty latch. **Breaking changes** No API or schema changes. The notification scope is one DB owner and its dedicated child pools. Direct SQL, separate roots, and other processes require an explicit wake/recovery integration. This path requires PostgreSQL 14+ transaction-information functions; embedded PostgreSQL uses 18. ## What Changed - Add one named-deadline scheduler and app-owned coordinator for five existing queues. - Instrument `createDb().transaction()` centrally, including nested savepoints. Dedicated child connections share their owner's signal scope. - Register work before the five queue insert paths. The first registration obtains the outer XID; unrelated transactions issue no extra SQL. Tool receipt insertion gains a small transaction around its existing insert. - Query `pg_xact_status` only for rejected, tracked transactions. Probe before scanning the queue. Retain the idle hold while PostgreSQL still reports an in-progress transaction or the probe fails. Release it after settlement and reconciliation. - Remove unconditional delivery recovery scans and caller-specific completion post-commit actions. Retain the existing task-scoped completion activity fast path and durable claims. - Coalesce wakes without postponing an earlier deadline. Retry outstanding rows and failures; suppress dispatch during idle drain while allowing transaction and queue reconciliation; suppress both during warm standby. Cancel deadlines and await active delivery sweeps on shutdown. - Serialize feedback flushes. Vote routes return after saving. Uploads have a 30-second deadline and shutdown cancellation; unfinished exports remain recoverable. - Document the writer contract and update the dated sleep inventory. ## Verification - Final head: `a4609956841107ad60c4cb50fe2acb05636b1363`. - Passed: all final-head hosted checks, with 54 successes and two intentional skips. The full test matrix, typecheck, build, canary, and aggregate verification passed in [run 37940948440](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37940948440). - Passed: Greptile 5/5 on the same head, with a successful check run and zero unresolved review threads. The branch is mergeable. - Passed locally after the final rebase: 50 coordinator, scheduler, and startup tests; server typecheck; server build. - Passed locally before the final import-only rebase: repo-wide typecheck and build; 237 PostgreSQL producer/delivery and database signal tests; feedback, native-question, and idle-safety regression tests. - Real PostgreSQL tests hold transactions open after an injected client response loss, then commit or abort. They verify that an empty scan cannot clear an in-progress transaction. Another test terminates a real backend and verifies recovery without replay. - Coordinator tests cover an hour with no empty-queue timers, pending/error retries, worker replacement, concurrent writes, earliest-deadline preservation, rollback during idle drain, committed work during drain, standby, and shutdown. - Local `pnpm test:run` was started and stopped after embedded PostgreSQL startup failures appeared. It did not finish and is not reported as a pass. Later local database reruns had skipped suites; those skips are not claimed as verification. The earlier PostgreSQL tests did execute and pass, and the final hosted full matrix passed. ## Risks - One XID query is added per transaction that registers delivery work. Nested transactions share that ID. Registration must be awaited before writing; new enqueue paths must follow this contract. - Work signals are local to a DB owner and its dedicated child pools. Independent roots, direct SQL, or other processes are not observed. Startup scans recover already committed rows, but do not fence late transactions from a previous process. Cross-process ownership and database failover require separate work. - A database outage or genuinely unresolved transaction keeps an idle hold until status can be reconciled. No timer clears uncertainty by assumption. - These changes remove five empty polling loops. They do not implement whole-instance sleep, database teardown, or an external waker. The earliest deadline covers only the registered queues. - Waiting tool reviews retain their existing retry cadence until their receipts can be delivered. - Feedback vote responses no longer wait for the remote upload. Sharing consent and the saved vote response are unchanged. - Real hosting-provider sleep and cost savings have not been measured. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, and command execution. feat: integrate Pi 1.0 into the experimental Runner (#14921)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The experimental Runner owns provider processes and durable sessions. > - Pi needs working task execution and human controls. > - The five-PR stack must preserve changes already on master. > - Each layer now carries the complete integrated source for a safe sequential fallback. > - This PR belongs to native GitHub stack #15602, ending at #14956. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14436, #14631, #14743 and #14956. Ship Pi 1.0 through the experimental Paperclip Runner. The five PRs are #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924 and #14956. The user authorized the complete merge after checks pass. Existing `pi_local` execution is unchanged. Accounting and wider provider/platform qualification remain deferred. ## What Changed - Recover missing final replies after workspace finalization changes owners, using accepted-turn evidence without rerunning work or granting external-chat publication. - Preserve the admitted Pi instruction root across warm runs, while retaining changed-root rejection. - Give Pi a bounded 15-second default shutdown grace so stop, drain acknowledgement and durable suspension can complete. Explicit deadlines and other providers retain their existing behavior. - Integrate the Pi 1.0 runtime and master contracts. - Use Pi profile 22. Preserve explicit caller-selected models and exact native thinking levels. Keep Pi's wrapper, helper, extension and question/control behavior unchanged from the qualified profile-19 runtime. - Preserve master's Dot lifecycle and consent fields, configured task environment, status guards and current Codex/Claude dependency versions. Cursor stays qualified. Copilot stays pending; profile 17 binds the changed shared protocol validation sources. - Exclude general AWS IAM credentials from Pi static/custom provider bindings and selected task projections; preserve the provider-scoped Bedrock bearer key. Profile 21 is retained as historical provenance. Rust and cloud install probes use the current declaration. - Patch bundled brace-expansion 5.0.9 to the exact official 5.0.12 payload. Pin the patch and complete runtime closures. Include the patch in normal installed setup tooling. Keep the upstream Pi shrinkwrap as provenance and permit only this exact security correction. - Include current attestation files in the Docker build context. Keep the repository lockfile unchanged from master. CI and private image builds resolve manifest changes before their frozen installation. ## Verification - Full local `pnpm -r typecheck` passes, including Runner Rust, server and UI. Focused integration checks pass: 194 Runner admission/environment tests, 63 profile/credential tests with one expected skip, 152 Dot/UI configuration tests, and Pi transcript/notice tests. - Full local `pnpm build` passes on the final source. - Fresh final-source checks pass: all 698 Rust workspace tests (32 binaries), 156 credential/profile/controller tests with one expected skip, Runner TypeScript typecheck, and 20 package/setup/sandbox tests. - The profile-21 Pi materializer passes on the native host with the official pinned Node 24.21.0 and its npm. It verifies all 150 locked packages, the patched dependency and the exact closure. Setup/package bundle tests and UI token gates pass. - The old hashes were reproduced for all three supported targets before calculating the patched graph. New closure hashes are darwin-arm64 `282022db10150c6632b3444df421342e7d534bdf5d5fb1097a2e79d0625a2bcf`, darwin-x64 `64e251e19009f755c0b04f73ce2138246faab71a961b0f13d75ebfcc34bef12e`, and linux-x64 `713b1fdff42fb56a1518bdc084f181d70bee8ebadc3e4b1d76321ed9108c8410`. Independent native platform execution is separate from graph identity reproduction. - Historical cloud qualification remains unchanged: all seven core cases pass on shipping source `10dc43c9ec65d88c2f782d62afb296d09494f215`, harness `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`, image `sha256:5b3a775b383591bda1b0c1889e509acc70ce7f37c53f09733c81d59037f02280`, and accepted Sonnet 4.6/low fixture. All 215 canonical files and all seven cleanup checks pass independent verification. These are profile-19 results and are not relabeled as fresh profile-22 runs. - Current Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [The readiness plan](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/pi-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-02-pi-production-readiness.md) preserves campaign and failed-attempt provenance. - Merge only after every PR's current-head CI and fresh review pass. Linux CI covers the full suites, build and browser tests. The local embedded Postgres API-authority suite cannot start on this macOS/Node 26 host, so Linux CI must confirm that suite. ### Fresh profile-22 core qualification — 2026-10-08 All seven accepted core cases pass canonically on Pi profile 22, with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. This model is a fixture; production accepts the caller's explicit Pi provider/model. Runtime/install source: `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401`. Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [Hosted Linux image and clean-install verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868328023) passes, including all 20 source-bound archives, normal CLI/Pi setup, companion import and the production pack reader. This exact installation source includes the latest master integration and the corrected Pi warm instruction-root fence. Full local typecheck/build and current-head hosted CI verify the final stack. All 13 focused real-root regressions pass. The full local executor suite passed 662 tests; 15 database tests could not start the Mac embedded PostgreSQL service. Hosted Linux CI passes the full required verification and E2E checks. These fresh results keep their own source identity; profile-19 results remain historical. | Core path | Canonical campaign | Retained archive SHA-256 | | --- | --- | --- | | File edit, validation, download and Done | `pi-core22-replyfix-0-1791511228` | 23 files; `a473e8603a3dd4737863291f8d3d1e392391f0b16d433c3e0e0e9d8baf7a97b0` | | Pending question and controller restart | `pi-core22-replyfix-1-1791511376` | 33 files; `6b829c4eb74e1f32a89c692a4ae7130dbfc1c6d3cf13915effe2103d9e242c8e` | | Three-turn session/process/workspace continuity | `pi-core22-replyfix-2-1791511587` | 23 files; `7a87021f8f9a3fdd3c58bb4467f8d82c635e3ea4795d6e75f144d9aa14818df8` | | Four typed questions and browser reconnects | `pi-core22-replyfix-3-1791511881` | 42 files; `9e31755252be1f4f9cb0626c984c142d4d1ae5f5bee3a7af08444db8d12c280a` | | Plan approval and completion | `pi-core22-replyfix-4-1791512031` | 22 files; `a0383ce1aab38e7b5a25ce0e9dd3bebea5c037ebd96ae6b29dae19015da2ae2c` | | Same-turn steering and permission denial | `pi-core22-replyfix-5-1791512261` | 39 files; `c929b8c7070f0b66aedc17e65ca46e6beab1e363926ac9f7e2a75fb250f05949` | | Stop during pending permission | `pi-core22-replyfix-6-1791512390` | 33 files; `7f0a58ae0f4d5bfc76149435f4e322537089c5bd16e7ffe9b5ad71f10a621a07` | All 215 canonical files (28714587 bytes) are independently hash-verified. All seven cleanup grades pass, with no owned runtime process or temporary root after each case. Automatic retries are zero. The owned cloud host stopped normally after retention. The prior profile-22 warm attempt remains failed and separately retained: archive SHA-256 `1e54eba5ec72b50cee1534b23d1d1d4f21a090006b8a64501ba70db972abfde5`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Diagnosis reproduced a product bug comparing an agent-files root against an unset checkpoint-only field. The fix stores the admitted physical root separately from the adopted per-run collection capability. The real-root regression fails before the fix and passes afterward, including rejection of a changed physical root. Fixture, grader, model and all seven accepted case IDs are unchanged; this fresh campaign tests final-reply publication after file registration first. The intermediate restart attempt also remains failed and retained: archive SHA-256 `5dcaefdf1d17cf4cd54fd4cf810f45e736667392339b8ce7caf08bb4e225277f`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Pi resumed, wrote the verified answer and completed its task; exact runner suspension was proven, but idle stop consumed about 5.2s and left under 3s for the drain acknowledgement. The Pi-only default shutdown grace is now 15s, preserving a full 5s drain round trip and a finite suspension reserve. Explicit caller deadlines, other provider defaults, literal drain receipts and exact suspension identity checks remain unchanged. The timing regression fails before this correction and passes afterward; all 18 focused settlement tests and Runner typecheck pass. The final-source file attempt is also preserved as failed (`candidate_failure`), archive SHA-256 `db6767b6773ea618997927ac77bdb005a5ac81492c7b9c0ffbc900449f829bc9`. Native edit, validation, exact downloadable artifact and Done/succeeded all passed, and the exact final reply was durably recorded. A workspace recovery owner completed before the live heartbeat reached presentation, leaving that reply absent from task chat. Recovery now materializes only a completed final reply from the accepted turn of an ordinary internal Done task, preserving issue/run/contract binding, suppression, external-chat authorization and same-run deduplication. The database regression covers the generated file-preparation receipt, suppression, unapproved external continuation and replay. Server typecheck and all 49 response-selection tests pass; hosted Linux verifies the database regression because embedded PostgreSQL cannot start on this Mac. The delayed-final-answer database regression passes on [the final root-source Linux server shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868262553/job/113628594152), alongside 1,108 passing tests. The first root Runner shard had one unchanged durable-resume test exceed its 5-second timeout; the identical top-source shard and the isolated exact test passed. One rerun of that failed job and its required aggregate passed without source or test changes. The original failed job log and the single-rerun receipt remain retained. ### October 9 merge verification Current merge head: `5a8fe63512a7166aaef5cf50065a25008aa8b44b`. All current-head checks pass, including `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Current master conflicts are resolved. The user authorized the maintainer override of the code-owner review gate after these checks. The seven retained live core cases remain bound to source `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401` and its recorded cloud image. ## Risks - The security correction changes the dependency closure and profile identity. Old sessions must reopen on the new profile. Exact identities and credential bindings fail closed. - The runner remains experimental and requires explicit selection. Legacy Pi Local is unchanged. Caller model IDs pass through; the E2E model is a fixture. - Accounting and the broad platform/provider matrix remain deferred. This merge does not publish a release or deploy a service. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with reasoning, repository inspection, editing and tool use. The exact serving ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Final live qualification uses Pi 1.0.0 with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: resolve installed Codex and preserve npm host dependencies (#15555)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Installed agents need their own runtime dependencies. > - Native Codex startup and browser login could depend on a global CLI. > - npm bundles do not inherit workspace dependency overrides or patches. > - Codex native packages must come from npm for the consumer host. > - This PR fixes executable resolution and the required npm dependency layout. > - Usable installed CLI versions can run without a numeric version gate. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #15422. This is a prerequisite for the later Codex-default change. **What happened?** Packaged native Codex startup and browser login could require a global Codex CLI. The server's vendored runner lacked its own declared Codex bridge. A bundled wrapper could retain producer-host binaries or select the legacy adapter's separate platform version. **Expected behavior** Prefer the installed Codex executable. Accept usable older or newer versions. Use the selected host's PATH when the dependency is absent. Keep the patched JavaScript graph. Let npm install official native packages for the consumer platform. Grant sandbox reads only to the selected vendor resources. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Prepare a clean npm installation without a global Codex command. 2. Start native Codex or its browser login. 3. Inspect the selected executable, installed host package, and sandbox resource paths. **Paperclip version or commit** Frozen master base: `1881894973a2b25838d8abed9bd8aeebc3af4441`. **Deployment mode** Source and packaged self-hosted installation. ## What Changed - Share installed Codex command resolution across native startup, direct evals, and browser login. Accept usable version differences. Preserve explicit commands, recorded sessions, remote host boundaries, and the Linux ARM64 legacy login path. Return safe errors for missing executables and failed login terminals. - Declare the server's Codex bridge. Retain the patched JavaScript dependency graph in npm packages. Strip Codex native payloads. Declare official optional host packages on the published server manifest so native and legacy versions remain separate. Preserve consumer esbuild platform dependencies. - Adjust resource lookup for npm's separate platform packages. Retain package identity, path containment, resolver ownership, and narrow sandbox reads. Keep exact version and digest checks for explicit ACPX artifact qualification. - Extend existing packaging, installed-consumer, login, selection, recovery, and integrity tests. Document the retained behavior. The diff is now 23 files, 1,709 additions, and 53 deletions. The prior diff had 35 files and about 3,700 changed lines. Removed work is preserved on `codex/runner-packaging-full-snapshot` at `6f3060beaa842ffcee21af058370d3cab5f571e9`. Removed from this PR: release workflows and assembly, provider-pack changes, Docker materialization, Git installer changes, extra login HOME/working-directory isolation, and unrelated CI fixture repairs. This PR does not change agent defaults, stored runner choices, UI, schema, or provider qualification. ## Verification - Final candidate: `dde37d7ed0121c10b60b8801eda80f8dc17909ad`. [All 47 ordinary CI jobs passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37842288835) on attempt 1, including typecheck, tests, build, E2E, runner checks, and the installed-consumer canary. [Fresh Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15555#issuecomment-6059581546) is 5/5 on this head; no unresolved threads remain. Human approval is still outstanding. - Reused focused controls passed with Node 24: 71 initial narrowed checks, then 56 affected Codex/selection/eval checks after the relative PATH correction. Runner TypeScript no-emit, syntax, and diff checks passed. The existing fixture reproduces the original relative PATH failure and verifies working-directory selection, empty entries, ordering, and absolute launch. One CLI entrypoint test was initially blocked by sandbox IPC and passed with its existing local socket allowed. Login HOME, config-directory assignments, and working directory match master. - [The actual clean Linux npm consumer](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37842288835/job/113535523044) passed on the final candidate's CI integration. All 17 Paperclip tarballs omit native Codex payloads. Official npm host packages retain their own integrity and `inBundle=false`. Native Codex selects 0.160.0; the legacy closure retains 0.156.1. Package admission, command leases, narrow native sandbox resources, consumer hooks, preserved lock, and offline lifecycle controls passed. Provider calls were zero. No new workflow is added. - Actual official Codex 0.156.1 passed on the final committed source on macOS ARM64: installed dependency preference, absolute and relative PATH fallback, narrow resource lookup, and app-server initialize/initialized. Executed module hashes match the candidate. One scripts-disabled install, three version probes, and one handshake completed in 26 seconds; owned files and process group were removed. No login, account/model request, or provider task ran. - CI checked out `dfda8e708e87306d22ed735d78bdfcbe770e99b7` on base `65b558180533039a891ee0cd1ccab9988aa79adc`. Its 13 upstream paths do not overlap this PR's 23 paths or alter packaging/Codex inputs. The consumer report records producer `7b8e94c08657b5ddc265946459762340f125726c`, after the existing canary staged a generated-lock-only commit (one file, three insertions). These identities are kept separate; raw generated-lock bytes were not retained. - No local Docker or Rust build, paid provider turn, merge, or deployment. Later PRs must prove live onboarding and production cloud packaging before changing defaults. ## Risks - npm must install optional host dependencies. Missing dependencies still return errors. Paperclip tarballs do not pre-bundle Codex executables. - The repository requires CI-owned lockfile updates. PR CI resolves the changed manifest and stages its own producer lockfile. A raw source Docker build with `--frozen-lockfile` must wait for the existing master lockfile bot to merge its refresh, or use a disposable resolved checkout. No Docker build or deployment is qualified by this PR. - Ordinary Codex startup accepts version differences. Actual protocol or login failures remain errors. Explicit ACPX artifact checks retain their release pins. - The published server delegates platform installation outside its bundled JavaScript graph. Focused negative controls reject unsafe package metadata and paths. The hosted consumer test passed on this candidate’s CI integration. - Existing agents retain their stored runner choices. There is no data migration or automatic upgrade. Release pipeline and platform qualification work remain separate prerequisites for later defaults. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and parallel agents. test(evals): verify durable waiting across continuation checkpoints (#15564)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and durable tasks across provider runs. > - Human questions must preserve task ownership and stop work until a real answer arrives. > - The continuation eval checks the final work, but its lifecycle oracle misses several broken waiting states. > - A correct final answer can hide a stale execution lock or a lost intermediate answer receipt. > - This pull request checks each wait and retains every question and run identity. > - A source audit records which waiting operations belong to native runtimes and which still require legacy API calls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The existing Product E2E continuation oracle for human question and approval journeys. **Current behavior** A pending interaction can pass the waiting check even when its task has the wrong status, a stale lock, or a retry. Only the first pending question and first run receipts are checked at the final checkpoint. **Proposed behavior** Require a healthy wait on the same task and assignee. Preserve all intermediate run receipts and every pending question's answered identity. Allow a paused native provider question only when its pending runtime request identifies the running native run and execution lock. Related: #15548 and #15554 cover earlier bookkeeping slices. #15544 changes production continuation summaries; this PR changes the eval oracle and does not overlap that fix. ## What Changed - Check waiting state, execution ownership, and all answer/run identities in the existing lifecycle oracle. - Add negative calibrations for broken records and positive coverage for both semantic waits and paused provider questions. - Retain task activity at each checkpoint for inspection of successful persisted mutations. - Verify 1,000-cent company and agent budget limits before continuation work. Disable automatic cell rerolls. - Document runtime ownership, existing coverage, and the remaining instruction decision. Keep production instructions unchanged. ## Verification - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit`: 1,867 Vitest tests pass, one skips; 128 Node tests pass. - `pnpm test:e2e:runner:typecheck`: passes. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passes. - `pnpm build`: passes. - Negative calibration: 27 added cases fail against the prior oracle and pass with these checks. - Four existing local continuation cells are selected for a separate bounded live canary. Live results are pending; no behavioral pass is claimed here. - The full local `pnpm test:run` suite was not repeated because embedded PostgreSQL was unavailable in the preceding workspace verification. Required Linux PR CI must pass before readiness. ## Risks The stronger oracle can expose existing product or fixture defects. A paused provider question and a terminal semantic wait have distinct valid states. The four-cell canary does not qualify approval/review, dependency unblock, crash races, remote execution, or general task quality. Task activity records successful persisted writes, not failed API attempts; repeated progress comments are not automatically defects. Historical eval grades remain unchanged. No production scheduling, prompt, tool, schema or migration changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6-based, with tool use and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): require current-turn completion after connection continuations (#15514)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents, tasks, permissions, and execution budgets. > - Native tasks can resume after a connection decision in the same provider conversation. > - Each turn still needs an accepted completion report. > - Compact continuation messages did not explain that reports from earlier turns cannot finish the new turn. > - The connection evaluator could also grade before the final reply was stored or reject valid unavailable-access wording. > - This PR clarifies the current-turn report requirement and fixes those observation boundaries. > - The original connection instructions and strict native completion gate stay in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15489. The reduction remains draft while this separate repair is qualified. Refs #15471 for the earlier connection continuation work. ## What Changed - Add a current-turn completion reminder to compact continuation inputs. - Keep final prose insufficient for completion. Preserve permissions and retry policy. - Wait for the final successful task run's saved, attributed decline reply within the existing deadline. - Use one bounded explanation matcher for both decline checks. - Wait for a recorded tool-action rejection to dispatch its bound continuation, with strict company, task, agent and source-run checks. - Retain the exact grading input before later API refreshes. - Add failure and delay regressions and update the Runner and evaluator docs. ## Verification The fresh comparison has **15/15 original passes on each variant**: 15 unchanged pass pairs, zero new failures, and no pending pair. There are 30 case attempts and **65 actual agent runs** (baseline 33; candidate 32). All runs succeeded. All 30 cleanups passed. No model attempt was retried. | Profile | Baseline | Candidate | | --- | --- | --- | | Native Codex `gpt-5.6-sol` | 5/5 | 5/5 | | ACPX Claude `claude-sonnet-5` | 5/5 | 5/5 | | OpenCode `openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash-0731` | 5/5 | 5/5 | Each profile covers service approval, service decline, connection decline, provider decline, and selection of the second provider. The saved replies, approved briefings, decisions, fixture observations, final task states, and native completion records were inspected. All 18 saved decline-grade snapshots match their original captured inputs and checks. Result, API snapshot, and final ledger run sets agree. - [Candidate campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37711658378) · [public candidate report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-37711658378-1/index.html) - [Baseline campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37711675579) · [public baseline report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-37711675579-1/index.html) - Candidate source: `79905343bba280d462765faad19a26e7f179259e`. Baseline source: `7c5e120158f1385a1fc5f20be41f66c58a605534`. Both use master context `fc6304dfe5f2e446e09bd052a7b45f51e930f250`. The trusted workflow source is separately frozen at `dd777f4b7343305c4e6f44c422f44a1d78e12e4f`. - Both variants use the same evaluator, fixtures, models, permissions, 720-second cell deadline, and 1,000-cent company and agent hard stops. The only production difference is the compact continuation reminder. - Suite hash: `aee30b74b4d38ada08777798db0932fbc64e368bb427d29caa8cfd86c7f59747`. Definition hash: `ea9e17f54fe0af1acbb2337ddfab8a7e92db8488bd0f59510a63095ca0229b60`. - Provider-free transport capture: startup/resume input stays at 55,726 bytes. Compact continuation input grows from 53,334 to 53,535 bytes. The 42-tool catalog stays unchanged. These are Paperclip input bytes, not complete vendor prompt tokens. - Focused evaluator tests: 31 pass. Native contract, transport delivery, and session tests: 194 pass. Evaluator support: 1,819 TypeScript tests and 128 Node tests pass, with one intentional skip. - Full build, workspace typecheck, and evaluator typecheck pass. Current-head CI passes all required gates. The current rollup has 51 successful check runs, two intentional Storybook skips, and a successful Snyk status. Review is 5/5 with zero unresolved threads. - CI attempt 1 had one initial runtime-fixture health timeout. The exact test and its full 164-test file pass locally. One CI shard retry passed. The original CI failure, its dependent verify failure, and the retry remain visible in [CI history](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37711235060). - The broad local `pnpm test:run` attempt was interrupted after about 49 minutes (exit 130). It recorded one failure in the unchanged Zep memory-connector disabled-setting test. That test and the full 388-test tool-access file pass in separate local checks; current-head CI also passes. The local cause is not established, and this broad local attempt is **not** claimed as passing. Three earlier local failures also pass in their isolated checks; their original logs remain retained. - The first two setup admissions were cancelled before provider jobs to include the review correction. They made no provider calls. The completed campaigns above are the first and only model attempts for these corrected variants. Cost evidence stays separate from behavior. Original result summaries report only OpenCode amounts: baseline $0.039192096 and candidate $0.063221620. Final run ledgers also retain estimates for Claude (baseline $1.232439000; candidate $1.333611200) and Codex (baseline $2.340324400; candidate $2.129335600). These estimates do not replace the original summaries. Local and GitHub runtime are unmetered here. Invoices are unknown. This is not a cheaper or faster claim. ## Risks - A single matched trial cannot prove general equivalence or causation. The reminder is an instruction change, not a new completion enforcement rule. - Candidate OpenCode service-decline finished within one continuous run; its baseline used two. That pair passed the task outcome, but it does not qualify the reminder on a resumed decline turn. No extra paid run was used to replace it. - The text matcher is bounded evidence of an explanation. It does not prove reasoning or consumption of feedback. Bounded stdout excerpts do not prove that every extra attempted tool call is absent. - Missing saved replies or continuations still fail at the original deadline. Failed native completion remains a failure even when final prose is correct. - The unresolved local-suite discrepancy above remains a validation limit. Full remote CI and both focused local reproductions pass. - The original connection instructions stay in place. These results do not qualify the reduction in #15489. Its original 11/15 versus 12/15 grades and two new failing pairs remain unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. feat(dot): complete onboarding and expand governed Runner capabilities (#15414)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages AI agents, their work, and their permissions.
> - Paperclip Runner supplies the same admitted tool authority to each
provider.
> - The Dot provider in #15402 needs reliable onboarding and useful
agent capabilities.
> - An idle Dot could not start work, assign a human, read skills, or
produce a workspace artifact.
> - Pairing also relied on a second configuration save before ordinary
admission could work.
> - This pull request adds governed idle admission and shared Runner
tools, and completes pairing atomically.
> - Operators can test Dot with fresh data while keeping normal company,
approval, budget, and run ownership checks.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Paperclip Runner, dedicated Dot MCP access, OAuth onboarding,
experimental settings, and empty worktree startup. This PR builds on
merged provider PR #15402. It reuses the merged MCP gateway from #14846
and assistant connection work from #14933 and #15380.
**Problem or motivation**
An idle Dot could see assignments but could not act on a conversation
request until someone created a task first. Its Runner catalog could not
assign tasks to humans or read pinned skills and workspace files.
First-time OAuth discovery and pairing also needed browser fixes, and a
completed pairing did not persist its binding reference on the agent.
**Proposed solution**
Keep Dot within the existing Runner. Admit a visible agent-authored
intake task for idle requests. Add people, human assignment, cross-task,
skill, and optional sandbox workspace tools through shared authority.
Relay assigned app calls through the configured MCP gateway. Add lease
renewal and follow-up references. Save pairing and its configuration
revision atomically. Show prerequisites and provide a complete copy
prompt.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental provider in #15402. It uses the existing
governed gateway, task model, skills, artifact path, and native Runner.
It adds no separate execution subsystem.
## What Changed
- Add a standalone OpenAI Dot agent choice with an independent
experimental opt-in. It works with the general Runner option off.
Require Assistant connections (MCP), authenticated sign-in, and public
HTTPS for pairing.
- Use Dot’s own option for company package import. Allow an unpaired Dot
configuration to save after external billing acknowledgement; task
admission still requires pairing. Prepare the shared dev binary for
Dot-only opt-in.
- Label saved Dot agents as OpenAI Dot. Use prerequisite-check copy in
setup and runtime configuration.
- Route Dot creation directly to pairing after explicit external billing
acknowledgement. Hide local CLI, model, and harness setup for Dot.
Preserve the shared Runner implementation and canonical API type. Other
Runner providers still require their general opt-in.
- Add an empty worktree option with fresh signing keys and no production
data copy.
- Fix public-client OAuth negotiation, discovery compatibility, and
optional separate browser authorization origin.
- Add one-use pairing consent preview, clear copied setup instructions,
and atomic binding persistence and cleanup.
- Add idle request admission with stable request IDs and normal
scheduling, permissions, budgets, and task ownership.
- Add identity and people discovery, human task assignment and
reassignment, and authorized cross-task comments and documents.
- Read assigned skill files from pinned manifests. Relay assigned app
calls through the merged gateway without exposing credentials.
- Add an off-by-default workspace bridge. Constrain paths and writes.
Run commands in a deny-by-default OS sandbox with no network or injected
credentials. Reserve mutations before effects and never blindly repeat
uncertain work.
- Add rolling lease renewal, task pagination, bounded operation limits,
and deduplicated follow-up references without comment bodies in
webhooks.
- Add an off-by-default attachment reading setting. Restrict reads to
files on the current assigned task. Verify size and hash, cache bounded
verified copies per run, paginate text or binary bytes, and recheck live
authority before returning.
- Keep file grants operator-owned. Reject agent self-grants across
configuration routes. Preserve attachment consent in create/import
forms. Close generic API file bypasses while retaining current-run
response snapshots and permitted uploads.
- Keep provider limits explicit. Do not inherit a Dot binding,
attachment permission, or workspace permission when hiring another
agent.
- Include the required Markdown format in cross-task document writes and
validate the API title limit. Verify real creation and revision
persistence.
- Restrict command execution to Linux bubblewrap with descendant
containment. macOS retains workspace file tools and artifact publishing,
while refusing command calls. Explain the platform limit in setup.
- Exclude Paperclip instance state from workspace files, uploads,
artifact publication, and sandbox commands. Protect nested directories
and case variants. Fail closed when the directory protection scan
exceeds 4,096 directories.
- Add static UI compression for slow public tunnels. Document setup, the
complete tool inventory, and qualification limits.
## Verification
- Merge preparation on `00ca2c75b` integrates merged base #15402 and
master `fc6304dfe`. The ancestry commit preserves the reviewed follow-up
source tree. The subsequent security fix excludes instance state from
file tools, uploads, artifact publication, and sandbox commands. It
preserves private task authorization and task monitors. It regenerates
the combined tool catalog, seeded catalog digest, and protocol manifest.
Workspace typecheck, full build, and UI token gates pass. All sixteen
real Dot broker cases and 93 company import cases pass after the review
fixes and creator-attribution test correction. The exported
human-assignment catalog and Unicode page boundaries are also fixed. All
ten catalog tests and nine workspace/skill bridge tests pass. All 35
workspace bridge and authority tests passed after the instance-state
fix, including real macOS commands in that intermediate version. The
subsequent document and descendant-containment fixes pass 44 focused
tests across bridge, authority, and setup UI, with six Linux command
cases skipped on macOS. Real cross-task documents pass the route
validator and persist two revisions. macOS refuses command execution and
does not advertise the tool. Full workspace typecheck and build, changed
server/UI typechecks, and token gates pass again on the final commit.

feat(runner): add experimental OpenAI Dot provider over MCP Events (#15402)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents, tasks, permissions, and execution budgets. > - Paperclip Runner gives each provider the same admitted task and tool authority. > - OpenAI Dot runs outside the local process tree and needs asynchronous work delivery. > - The merged MCP gateway supplies OAuth consent and signed event delivery. > - A personal assistant grant cannot safely stand in for an assigned agent. > - This pull request adds a separate Dot agent connection and a durable Rust Runner bridge. > - The operator can assign work to Dot and inspect its accepted work, tool receipts, and result. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** OpenAI Dot, as an experimental provider of the existing Paperclip Runner adapter. **Why this adapter is useful** An operator can assign normal Paperclip tasks to an existing Dot. Dot can read its mailbox, request work on an assigned task, use admitted task tools, and submit a result. Paperclip keeps company scope, checkout, approvals, known budget limits, and activity attribution. **How the agent is invoked** A dedicated `/mcp/runner` OAuth resource pairs one Dot grant with one agent. A signed MCP mailbox event wakes Dot. Dot explicitly accepts the assignment. The Rust Runner owns the durable turn and operation receipts. The first release supports self-hosted instances with a local Runner controller. **Additional context** This extends the merged public MCP gateway from #14846 and the assistant invitation and device-consent work from #14933. This also integrates the merged assistant tool and configuration expansion in #15380. Dot retains its dedicated agent resource and cannot receive personal configuration permission. The public assistant connection remains a personal connection. ## What Changed - Add a durable Rust Dot provider and its TypeScript Runner driver. - Add closed PRP v3 external-provider operations and native execution input v6. - Add company-scoped pairing, mailbox, assignment, and operation records. - Reuse merged browser/device consent, client metadata verification, webhook admissions, refresh, secret rotation, and warm-standby gates. - Keep Dot scopes, issuer, grants, event workers, and tool access separate from personal assistant access. - Add Dot configuration, pairing, readiness, and consent UI. Keep agent grants out of the personal Connections entry. - Regenerate the Dot-only migration after master. Preserve published gateway migrations. Make the new migration safe to reapply. - Document setup, recovery, accounting limits, evidence, and remaining account qualification. - Reverify reconnect callbacks and wake outstanding work with a fresh mailbox reference; preserve the existing assignment and operation receipts. - Clean up Dot bindings and waiting runs on OAuth revoke and refresh-token replay. Old grants cannot revoke replacement bindings. - Restore the pairing reference when an unsaved agent form is reopened; document board-only pairing routes in OpenAPI. - Accept a clean Rust exit after the acknowledged shutdown receipt. Unexpected exits still require recovery. - Clear the cached binding after a successful revoke so a failed connection refresh cannot restore it. - Add production-component Storybook states and screenshots for pairing and connection review. All preview account data is synthetic. - Persist normalized completion, serialize Dot turns and durable work admission, and poll subscription readiness. - Serialize mailbox writes and cursor reads; retain paused fence acknowledgement without task authority. - Authorize admitted review runs without changing the worker assignee. Include the fenced assignment ID in production stop notices. ## Verification - This PR integrates master `4a8178e9c`. Dot migration `0317_messy_famine.sql` follows the published history and is safe to reapply. The merge preserves the reserved migration connection, batch-commit handling, private task checks, task monitors, and native accounting. - Local workspace typecheck, full build, and UI token gates pass. The server typecheck passes after the review fixes. Database and native executor regressions pass. - All twelve real Rust/PostgreSQL Dot integration tests and twelve Dot driver tests pass. The tests cover native document writing and finalization, durable replay, queue admission, mailbox ordering, admitted reviews, stale authority, production stop references, and paused acknowledgements. - Current head `d0e7e0626` passes all 57 checks: 53 pass and four are intentionally skipped. This includes full typecheck, build, tests, Rust Runner verification, browser E2E, release verification, and Canary Dry Run. Greptile rates this exact head 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - The full local root test run is slower than the sharded CI run and has not completed. The full CI test gates pass on the current commit. Focused local regressions pass. - Real-account pairing and event delivery on this base commit remain unqualified. Live account and setup proof are recorded in the follow-up #15414. The following screenshots use synthetic preview data. They show the production pairing component and do not qualify a real account or the full agent setup journey. ## Risks - This base adapter uses `PAPERCLIP_ENABLE_OPENAI_DOT=1` plus Public MCP and Paperclip Runner. The separate experimental-settings follow-up in #15414 replaces this environment flag with saved operator settings. - Dot does not expose provider token usage or cost. The operator must acknowledge external billing. Known Paperclip budget gates still apply. - Cancellation fences Paperclip authority. It does not confirm that Dot stopped all external activity. - Assigned skill files and third-party MCP bindings are unsupported and reject admission. There is no mounted workspace, model selector, or provider thread identifier. - Hosted agent-broker and remote controller deployments are not qualified. - The new migration follows the merged master history. Existing prototype databases still need the normal master migration history before this Dot-only migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact deployment ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and test inspection. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #123` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add personal primary agents (#15470)
Add a personal primary agent per company and user. Initialize it from the first human-created agent, expose profile-only switching with confirmation, and use it after recent choices for task and Chat defaults. Persist authenticated preferences, preserve lifecycle and membership rules, keep selections out of shared audit events, and document the API contract. Include the reviewed Storybook surfaces and regression coverage for concurrent choices, onboarding, cross-device updates, and browser journeys. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
