DottaandPaperclip 2cd747d1b6 perf(server): batch connection install capability checks (#17945)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their access to external
connections.
> - The connection grants screen describes which agents can receive an
installation.
> - Each candidate currently repeats authorization for every retained
installation.
> - A company installation makes this work grow with the square of the
roster size.
> - This pull request checks retained targets once inside the existing
service owner.
> - The benefit is fewer authorization calls with the same scoped
capability results.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The grants GET repeats connection preparation and retained-target checks
for each candidate agent. A local 100-agent company-install fixture made
50,300 SQL calls and 10,000 target lookups in one capability-description
operation. Open PR searches found no matching capability fan-out fix.

**Expected behavior**

The description must preserve retained-installation obligations and each
candidate's permission. It should evaluate retained targets once per
description. Writes must still authorize fresh.

**Steps to reproduce**

Run the committed benchmark with
`--baseline-ref=f6bc653f7f745adaafa26393852fb2f5a99256a4`. It creates
disposable synthetic PostgreSQL fixtures and loads the actual pre-fix
service from Git. It compares every positional capability, reason, and
operation.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Baseline `f6bc653f7f745adaafa26393852fb2f5a99256a4`.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source. Local real PostgreSQL proof. No hosted rollout.

## What Changed

- Add `describeAgentInstallCapabilities` to connection management.
Ordinary authorization and the batch share preparation, target checks,
and fallback completion.
- Use the batch only for direct saved non-AI connections and board
actors. Complex resources, delegated actors, and unusual saved target
IDs keep the ordinary evaluator. Fallback consumes the first preparation
once.
- Replace only the grants route's editable-agent loop. Keep
configure/use checks, identity filtering, audience disclosure, and write
authority on their existing paths.
- Add scoped-grant, retained-target, error-order, freshness, fallback,
full HTTP response, and real mutation regression coverage. Add a
reproducible benchmark and evidence notes.

## Verification

Real PostgreSQL 18.6 Linux Docker, Node 26.4.0. Two warmups and five
measured samples per arm, in alternating order. These are
service-component measurements with the same SQL-count instrumentation
in both arms. They do not measure the whole hosted endpoint.

| Fixture | Old median | Batch median | SQL calls old → batch | Target
lookups old → batch |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| 100 agents, company install | 24.753 s | 246.39 ms | 50,300 → 503 |
10,000 → 100 |
| 100 agents, partial install | 6.339 s | 236.37 ms | 13,075 → 502 |
2,575 → 100 |
| 1 agent, company install | 5.13 ms | 4.82 ms | 8 → 8 | 1 → 1 |

All eight fixture shapes and every measured iteration had complete
positional equality. One-agent timing ranges overlap. Full ranges,
database settings, and limits are in
`doc/plans/2026-10-27-connection-grants-batch-verification.md`.

- **Passed:** `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`, using pinned pnpm
9.15.4.
- **Passed:** 116 focused tests: all 83 connection-management
integration cases use real PostgreSQL and HTTP; 33 batch regressions
execute real policy over synthetic query transport. The integration
cases keep existing database creation, migrations, clients, services,
and assembled HTTP server, with disposable Docker PostgreSQL.
- **Passed:** complete grants GET parity across six human-role fixtures;
real install PUT succeeds before revocation, then fresh GET and actual
PUT deny after revocation without changing saved installs.
- **Passed:** a real PostgreSQL red/green regression for empty saved
target selectors, including candidate-specific decisions and later
reached infrastructure faults.
- **Passed:** independent old/new evaluator comparisons, including
recursive and delegated fallback, run-context reuse, continuation,
failure order, and principal/company isolation.
- **Local full-suite limit:** `pnpm test:run` was attempted and stopped
after native PostgreSQL fixtures could not initialize. An isolated
failed native case reproduced that startup error. The host cannot
allocate PostgreSQL SysV semaphores, including outside the sandbox. The
focused suites use an existing constructor seam to start disposable
Docker PostgreSQL. This is not a complete local full-suite pass.
- **Passed:** all 16 native-runtime cases that failed to start
PostgreSQL on the host, rerun with the disposable Docker provider. The
full local workflow remains incomplete.
- `git diff --check` passes. Greptile is 5/5 with no actionable findings
on final head `41dcf3ae029b6c60999ca6208136399b0af663d0`. All final-head
CI gates passed, including the full PR workflow. The two Storybook
checks are expected skips because this change has no UI changes.

Normal reproduction:

```sh
node --import ./server/node_modules/tsx/dist/esm/index.mjs scripts/benchmark-connection-install-capabilities.ts --baseline-ref=f6bc653f7f745adaafa26393852fb2f5a99256a4
cd server
pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/connection-install-capabilities.test.ts src/__tests__/connection-management.integration.test.ts
```

## Risks

Retained facts are observed once during one descriptive call. A mid-call
revoke or deletion can leave a stale displayed choice. The next
description and every mutation or human continuation read fresh
authority. The batch returns no reusable authorization context.

The bound applies to target evaluations in the eligible shape. Scoped
grant payloads and hierarchy reads can still grow inside each policy
decision. Complex resources and agent callers keep existing costs.
Hosted latency improvement remains unverified. There is no migration,
provider protocol change, new worker, persistent cache, or UI contract
change.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex with code editing, execution, and test tools. Design, test,
and independent review agents used exact model IDs `gpt-6.1-sol` and
`gpt-6-astra` with xhigh reasoning. The host did not expose the primary
session's exact model ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 13709b4c7a feat(connections): let agents configure connections within delegated authority (#17737)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connections provide governed tools, chat channels, model accounts,
and gateways.
> - Several management routes require a human board actor even when an
agent has the required grant.
> - Default agents must configure these resources within the responsible
user's authority.
> - This pull request adds a shared authorization path to the existing
REST and native API surface.
> - Human authentication, execution approvals, and local host boundaries
remain enforced.
> - The benefit is that a standard agent can complete authorized setup
with a bounded human handoff.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Server authorization, connection services, shared contracts, native API
discovery, database schema.

**Problem or motivation**

Connection administration is available in the web app but often
unavailable to agents. Agent grants, responsible-user authority,
credential ownership, and actor attribution need separate checks.
Opening gateway-token creation also requires preserving the issuing
agent's delegated authority during token use.

**Proposed solution**

Use the existing authorization evaluator for every connection family.
Enforce current responsible-user authority, effective trust, grant
scope, resource visibility, and target-agent access. Keep existing agent
grants unchanged. Expose authorized configuration through default
`search_api` and `call_api`. Save human authentication steps and let
agents continue after completion.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change completes the API access path for the existing Connected
Apps, Personal & Shared AI Accounts, and governed MCP Gateway
capabilities in `ROADMAP.md`. It follows the maintainer's requested
design. Related work: #11899 enforces connection execution access and
creator/manager rules; this PR extends agent management across
connection families. It does not replace that execution-policy work.

## What Changed

- Add shared connection management context and mandatory
responsible-user, trust, scope, and target checks.
- Allow authorized agents to configure tool, chat/email, GitHub/Slack,
AI, profile, and gateway resources through existing routes.
- Preserve human credential ownership and record the actual agent,
responsible user, and run or key in audit data.
- Preserve saved browser authentication handoffs and callback session
checks.
- Bind agent-issued durable gateway tokens to their responsible user and
recheck delegated authority at use.
- Add explicit REST transport and management capability metadata,
built-in guidance, and sensitive-response handling.
- Intersect caller and endpoint-agent Slack test/invitation policies,
including independent and shared rates. Require the addressed human’s
current endpoint identity link before completing identity handoffs.
- Add production-authenticated integration scenarios. Companion #17739
contains the saved setup UI (including the required human
import/rotation step), product and permission documentation,
catalog/Vercel credential and callback ownership, and operation maps to
keep each review below 100 files. Both PRs must ship together; merge
this implementation first, then its companion.

## Verification

- Current implementation head:
`2ecd6451d0d0c8d82121a4e3fa4ce94c5befbbd6`, including master
`ea727dc3c2`, 99 files. The latest follow-up fixes the two valid
findings from the preceding f9 review. Exact-head Greptile has completed
at5/5 with no findings and Superagent passed. Full exact-head Linux CI
workflow40446606056 completed SUCCESS; only the queued external
Paperclip Review remains pending; earlier Linux passes do not qualify
this successor.
- Latest preserved-stack verification passed **2,165 tests** in fresh
PostgreSQL: **70 actual-auth scenarios**, 27 OpenAPI contracts, 2,022
native API tests and 46 saved GitHub wizard cases. **141 existing
gateway/policy acceptance tests** also passed. Workspace
typecheck/build, maps and token gates passed. The first workspace
typecheck was blocked by sandbox tsx IPC permissions; its authorized
rerun passed. This is focused local evidence; the full Linux CI matrix
is still required.
- Issuer/target gateway policy regressions were red before the fix. Both
decisions now intersect, including Block/Ask first/rates, same
credential identity and current token/user/agent authority after
approval. Invocations retain their token and actual requesting agent;
deleted tokens fail closed. Thirteen actual-auth cases cover revocation,
narrowed scope, approvals, shared rates and board compatibility.
Intermediate missing-token attribution, review-context and
implicit-session actor failures remain in the qualification record; all
final cases pass.
- Activity pagination now retains a bounded cursor across private-only
windows. The actual-JWT regression reaches three older readable events
after 27 private ones without exposing private details. A native
device-login regression was red for plaintext receipts; local check and
test-call results now use existing protected-response handling. The
passing actual-auth case proves encrypted persistence, exact replay,
redacted history and no response asset.

- Previous-head `5b55195593` Linux CI initially failed e2e shard 4/8 in
the existing connection-intent continuation test: periodic recovery
queued a repair at 01:21:47, the scripted journey completed the task at
01:21:48, and the extra queued run was cancelled at 01:21:49 because the
task was terminal. The assertion selected that latest cancelled run.
GitHub refused the first attempt while the workflow was nonterminal.
After completion, the single evidence-supported failed-job rerun was
accepted as **attempt 2** on the same head (workflow 40431202466). The
failed shard and final E2E aggregate passed on attempt 2, and the
complete Linux workflow for that head is successful. The original
failure remains part of qualification. No additional unchanged-code
rerun will be used for this failure.

- Companion CI also has an unchanged login-cleanup idleness timeout,
retained in its qualification record. That same 16-case suite passed in
this parent Linux run and a fresh local database. Both preceding
workflows passed after their single failed-job reruns as attempt 2; the
original failures remain recorded. No additional unchanged-code rerun
was used.

- Migration `0380_broken_aqueduct.sql` was regenerated through the
repository workflow after master took 0379 for project Git
authorization. It adds the responsible-user column with `IF NOT EXISTS`,
preserves upstream migrations, and satisfies snapshot retention and
migration safety checks.
- Upstream published Copilot v62 and v63 identities remain byte-for-byte
unchanged. The combined guidance is now v64, digest
`sha256:22e31f95ef972bcead98a4a707c9f33433558fd111e390e027a2bbb4346e112a`.
The normal shared TypeScript/Rust identity check and **61 Copilot
installation tests passed**. The old source-identity assertion first
failed against unchanged published v63; regenerating a new v64 preserves
the published release.
- Workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`, map validation, and UI
token gates passed on the final combined stack after the upstream merge.
Node 24.22.1 / pnpm 9.15.4 were used.
- **Earlier 82 API/OpenAPI tests passed** in fresh PostgreSQL 18: 55
assembled-server scenarios and 27 contracts. They use real persistent
agent keys, run JWTs, human sessions, production defaults, and
deterministic provider fixtures. No actor injection establishes access.
- The new email regression was red before per-account scope filtering.
The Arcade regression was red before human ownership and inventory-key
fixes; it also verifies actual-agent audit identity and a human-session
inventory read. The activity regression measured **200 authorization
checks before the fix and one afterward** for the same one-item page.
- **82 GitHub UI tests passed**, including all three new
failed-replacement regressions that were red before their fix. The UI
preserves an earlier copy only after confirming its committed
generation. Changed or unreadable results block copying and reconnecting
until reconciled. Human-only secret responses now include their
nonsecret committed generation.
- Private test status now rechecks the originating principal and linked
task, including mandatory agent/responsible-user privacy. Cross-agent
tests require the full caller tool access decision and the same
credential identity, regardless of auth label; caller and target
policies/approvals and rate limits apply before execution and after
human approval. A profile-only precondition was found to reject valid
allow-policy and scoped-grant access and has been removed. Both
permitted-access cases and a no-auth-label identity regression were red
before the correction; caller-specific Block still prevents provider
execution. The private-status regression was also red before its fix.
- The tool-activity regression measured 100 capability decisions and 102
run captures on a 100-event page before the fix. It now uses two task
decisions and at most two captures while retaining the same 50 visible
events, private-event filtering, and 403 after audit-grant revocation.
The regression was red before request-context reuse and task-decision
sharing; final server typecheck/build also pass.
- Generic chat configure/reconnect now hands agent-supplied verification
credentials to the addressed human before provider work or vault
changes. Actual key/JWT regressions were red for Slack signing-key
replacement and generic channel secret-reference rebinding. They now
prove unchanged refs and vaulted signing value, human setup, permitted
agent bot-token repair, and governed test messages. All 82 API/OpenAPI
cases pass in fresh PostgreSQL. Eight native receipt protections and
final server typecheck/build also pass.
- The preceding review found that old healthy state could retire a
credential-entry card before a human changed anything. The actual-JWT
regression was red. Saved field generations now change only with
protected values and commit with refs plus a verification fence; retries
retain the baseline. Old health, bot-token repair and unchanged entry
stay pending. New signing verification and current authority permit
continuation. A separate red race proved that user revocation during
provider authentication could return 403 after refs changed; authority
is now checked before persistence and inside the credential transaction.
The final 82 API/OpenAPI cases, four neighboring real-database
Slack/GitHub lifecycle cases, and final server typecheck/build pass.
- A preceding full run crossed a rate-window boundary. Database rows
prove one consumed slot at 23:35 and another at 23:36 for the same
policy/bucket. Only Date is frozen in the rate test cases; transport and
asynchronous timers remain real. Production rate behavior is unchanged,
and the final full run passes. An intermediate fixture failure that
overwrote hidden generation metadata with an API projection is retained
in the qualification record.
- Linux CI on an earlier head found two rate-admission assertions that
omitted the newly persisted bucket key. The failures were reproduced
locally; both assertions now verify the exact actor/tool bucket and all
49 policy-service tests pass. The companion qualification record retains
the initial and intermediate failures. Catalog creator attribution is
preserved in the companion to keep this implementation review at 99
files.
- The latest review reproduced three regressions before repair: complete
human replacements failed on unavailable old signing secrets, fresh
GitHub links incorrectly selected reconnect, and different
credential-entry requests shared an idempotency key. Each old protected
ref now has a narrow known-unavailable fallback; unexpected resolver
failures and company/scope violations still abort. Fresh imports keep
their credential form, configured endpoints keep reconnect, and
canonical field sets/completion modes distinguish handoffs while
matching retries retain their baseline. All 55 actual-auth scenarios and
27 separately run OpenAPI contracts pass, as do server typecheck/build.
Companion #17739 also passes all 41 wizard tests including actual
fresh-form submission, UI typecheck, maps and token gates. Earlier red
results and a mistyped OpenAPI filename are retained in qualification.
- The configured GitHub handoff regression was red in the
browser-component tests and actual-auth link/persistence tests. Saved
links now name requested fields and all/any completion mode; the
companion form submits those supplied fields through reconnect and
retains other saved credentials. Webhook/client-secret reconnect remains
human-only; first-setup secret restrictions remain. All 46 wizard tests
pass, including combined modes and legacy links. A duplicate review
referenced the older companion bf760912; the current form is already
fixed, linked in the reply, and its thread is resolved.
- Linux CI on bf760912 failed automatic Slack provisioning because vault
persistence cleared an already verified manifest-update challenge. The
same regression was reproduced locally. The provider-owned helper now
preserves proof only for the current signing fingerprint and callback
URL. Eight existing compatibility cases pass, including this case and
initial GitHub secret rejection. The first uncommitted GitHub-field
variant also failed that initial boundary and was narrowed to reconnect;
both failures remain in qualification.
- The upstream merge conflicted only in generated migration metadata.
Upstream 0379 is preserved, normal generation/pruning produced 0380, and
two repeated applications of the idempotent additive SQL passed. The
final combined stack passed **128 tests** (55 actual-auth, 27 OpenAPI
and 46 wizard cases) in fresh PostgreSQL. Eight Google UI cases also
pass; the two protocol cases could not initialize embedded PostgreSQL in
this fresh local attempt. Their earlier passing evidence remains
historical; fresh Linux CI must execute them. Vercel personal credential
attribution is preserved in companion #17739 with its other
ownership/consent follow-ups, keeping this PR at 99 files.
- The suite covers fresh defaults, restricted users/agents, scopes,
personal isolation, token revocation, human handoffs, callback replay,
execution approvals, authorized self-targeted policy changes,
self-approval denial, and current authority before commit. Reproduce API
checks with `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/connection-management.integration.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts`, using a fresh database
through `PAPERCLIP_CONNECTION_MANAGEMENT_TEST_DATABASE_URL` or the
default embedded test database.
- Companion #17739 also records consent separately from token refresh so
saved Google choices survive refresh. Its eight service-picker and two
local-HTTP OAuth tests pass; both new UI cases were red before the fix.
Normal migration generation confirms no SQL change is needed for the
additive JSON metadata.
- The integration module shares one assembled server, authentication
factory, and provider lifecycle to preserve the
HTTP-to-vault-to-task-continuation proof. A reused external database
caused a Slack fixture identity conflict; the fresh final run passed.
Earlier fixture/transport and contract-update failures remain in the
companion qualification record.
- The broad local `pnpm test:run` attempt remains blocked by macOS
embedded PostgreSQL's host semaphore limit. It is not a clean pass. The
fresh Linux CI matrix must complete. Provider fixtures do not prove live
setup or an empirical LLM success rate.
- A current-head completed Paperclip assessment is not yet recorded. Its
earlier external recovery boundary has not been bypassed, and no
incomplete assessment is reported as passing. The user authorized both
merges when checks pass; merge this implementation first, then replay,
retarget, and requalify companion #17739 against the squash-merged
master.

- After the master refresh, local workspace typecheck/build, **97
actual-auth/OpenAPI cases** and **141 gateway/policy cases** pass. The
original fixed database port was occupied; Docker assigned a free
localhost port. The first neighbor setup command could not resolve root
`tsx`, leaving its schema uninitialized; the built database package
migrated the separate fixture and all unchanged cases passed. Both setup
failures are retained in qualification. Fresh Linux CI remains required;
no full local test-sweep pass is claimed.

- The f9 Greptile review scored **2/5** for two reproduced findings:
Slack test sends skipped the caller’s tool policy, and healthy App
credentials completed an unconfirmed identity handoff. Both are fixed in
this head and have resolved evidence threads
([Slack](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17737#discussion_r4384927765),
[identity](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/17737#discussion_r4384927895)).
Actual key/JWT cases cover twelve Slack caller/target/recipient
combinations; the human-session GitHub OAuth callback alone remains
pending until explicit confirmation. All **99 API/OpenAPI tests** (72
actual-auth + 27 contracts), workspace typecheck and build pass. On the
combined companion, all four focused cases (including the twelve Slack
combinations), typecheck/build and maps also pass. The continuation
suite’s 50 embedded-PG cases were skipped because its database could not
start locally; fresh Linux CI must run them. Initial fixture
credential-collision and audit-projection assertion failures are
retained with the red reproductions in the companion qualification
record. No full local sweep or live consent is claimed.

## Risks

- The maintainer explicitly confirmed authorized policy administration,
including self-targeted changes that loosen controls. These writes
require management grants and the responsible user’s current authority.
Agents cannot approve their own governed action requests or edit their
own principal permission grants. The actual-auth regression exercises
both permitted administration and those denials.
- This is a broad authorization change. Incorrect scope or owner
resolution could deny permitted setup or expose another user's
resources. Integration cases cover both permitted and denied requests
with actual authentication.
- The additive nullable gateway-token column does not infer identities
for legacy clients or backfill agent grants. Legacy agent tokens without
a responsible user fail closed.
- Provider fixtures test supported setup and callback contracts. They do
not prove live provider availability.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, and code
execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific deployment ID or
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 3ce8d976a9 Add experimental Paperclip Notebook MCP connection (#16984)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip connects agents to external tools through saved accounts
and per-action permissions.
> - Notebook exposes artifact management through an ordinary remote MCP
server with OAuth.
> - A private pilot needs a hidden, default-off catalog and execution
gate.
> - Local file publishing belongs to Notebook, which can accept bounded
file bytes through ordinary MCP tools.
> - Paperclip therefore needs the connector registration and generic
availability checks, with no file-transfer architecture.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Apps catalog, experimental feature metadata, connection setup, and
connector availability.

**Problem or motivation**

Users need to connect Notebook as their Cloud account, assign its tools
to agents, and retain Paperclip's normal Allowed / Ask first / Off
rules. The private pilot must remain hidden until an operator enables
it. Notebook should own its upload protocol and local publishing script.

**Proposed solution**

Register a personal remote MCP OAuth connection at Notebook's canonical
endpoint. Reuse existing OAuth discovery, credential storage, refresh,
reconnect, and removal. Enforce availability through generic catalog
feature metadata and saved application identity. Keep Notebook's
standalone uploader in its own service repository; it calls the ordinary
gateway and receives no saved OAuth credential.

**Alternatives considered**

A gallery-only filter permits retained tools and deep links while
disabled. A shared workspace publisher and private upload-ticket
transport add runtime behavior that a normal MCP connector does not
require. Notebook can receive file bytes directly through its own tools
instead.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends Connected Apps and supports Artifacts and Work Products.
ROADMAP.md and related PRs were checked. This PR is standalone on
master. The separate OAuth lifecycle and file-transfer proposals (#17085
and #17086) are closed and are not dependencies.

## What Changed

- Register Notebook's personal MCP OAuth method, canonical endpoint,
scopes, catalog metadata, and branding.
- Declare managed `enablePaperclipNotebook` with false defaults and no
user-facing settings toggle or staging opt-in.
- Use generic availability metadata for gallery/setup, retained
connection identity, OAuth completion, health, tool/context discovery,
and dispatch. Resources/prompts recheck before credentials, including
retained handles. Removal remains available while disabled.
- Resolve catalog application identity from the saved application key,
so editable connection labels cannot bypass the hidden gate.
- Select a method's sole supported credential kind when no kind is
supplied.
- Keep UI changes to metadata-driven availability and existing
setup/reconnect controls.
- Document Notebook's service-owned upload script, inline publication,
ordinary action policies, and credential behavior.
- Add ordinary MCP OAuth, assignment, action-policy, disabled-state,
settings, and catalog tests.

No workspace contribution registry, private transfer endpoint, native
publisher, Runner file-reader change, or Paperclip CLI upload command is
included. The entire native-runtime and CLI trees match master. Upload
code lives in `paperclip-cloud/notebook/`.

## Verification

Source head: `65ef741e4f476c67425b57d2fb2d6d4c00e99b06`, directly on
master `53732c811bb69655eb43d3d12f2063ae4ca5ad67`. The diff is 42 files.
Shared execution changes only enforce generic catalog availability; tool
access also resolves saved application identity and the sole supported
credential kind. Neither module contains Notebook upload logic.

- Catalog/shared/settings/UI suites: 592 tests passed across 12 files.
Shared/server/UI typechecks passed using installed compilers.
- Fresh real PostgreSQL generic MCP suite: 84/84 passed at final source;
server typecheck and module boundaries pass. Coverage includes personal
OAuth, ordinary refresh/reconnect, assignments, Allowed / Ask first /
Off, hidden feature enforcement, and local credential removal. Four new
resources/prompts cases failed against the prior code and pass after
filtering saved application identity and rechecking before credentials.
They prove missing/relabelled setup markers and stale eligibility cannot
dispatch or read secrets while disabled; an ordinary provider remains
available with the flag off.
- The full tool-access service suite passed 463/464 cases. One unchanged
Google Workspace `slides.write` case timed out at 15 seconds; it passed
on one isolated retry without source or timeout changes. Its exact test
block matches master. The cause is not established; final-head CI must
qualify the complete suite.
- Maps, module boundaries, token gates, and whitespace checks passed.
Byte comparisons confirm the former transfer/runtime/CLI surfaces match
master.
- Fresh exact-head Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved findings after
an exhaustive feedback audit. Current-head CI workflow
[39625691137](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39625691137)
succeeded, including both required checks (`ci / verify`, `ci / e2e`),
Build, and browser E2E. Supplementary security/advisory scan status is
recorded in the PR Checks panel and qualification receipt; prior-head
scans are not counted. The superseded `4bd7af9b2e` completed CI
successfully, but Greptile found the valid resources/prompts
availability gap described above. It was fixed, replied to, and
resolved; earlier-head results do not qualify this revision.

Preserved environment failures: the first socket-restricted UI/route run
had 93 listener setup failures, and the same 93 cases passed with
local-socket access. The package-manager launcher could not fetch its
signature metadata; installed compilers passed without dependency or
configuration changes. The full service timeout and isolated retry
remain recorded separately. The superseded `585e870e73` CI also failed
an unchanged agent-chat project-plan revision assertion after task
creation; the complete spec and relevant runtime sources match master,
and a same-master prior run passed. Its cause is not established. Logs
are preserved; no test or timeout was weakened and no old-head rerun was
requested. The subsequent heads run full CI independently; no prior-head
pass substitutes for current qualification.

The Notebook uploader requires a separate service release. This public
PR adds no uploader runtime to Paperclip and claims no newly deployed
browser/agent acceptance. The Notebook-owned upload path is qualified
separately. Code-owner review remains required before merge.

## Risks

- The feature flag gates the curated connector; it does not create a
Notebook service-side team allowlist or block arbitrary standard MCP
URLs.
- Publishing, sharing, and deletion retain the existing assignment and
action-policy boundaries.
- The hidden feature must be checked for retained tools and saved
identity, including when connection labels change.
- Disconnect removes local credentials. It does not revoke the remote
Notebook authorization; the owner can revoke it in Notebook.
- Ordinary refresh uses the existing client. A lost response after
refresh-token rotation can require reconnect.
- The standalone Notebook script and its bounded upload tools must ship
together in the Notebook service before that documented convenience path
is available.
- No database schema, workflow, lockfile, shared transfer, or Runner
change is included. No merge, deployment, or rollout is performed by
this update.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code
execution, and tool use. The runtime did not expose a more specific
model ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 23b2ceb0d1 feat(connections): add unified Google Workspace connector (#15545)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connected Apps supply governed tools to those agents.
> - Google services currently require separate connections or one broad
request.
> - Users need one account and control over which services it can
access.
> - A picker must change the OAuth request, not just the screen.
> - This pull request binds selected services to consent and tool
access.
> - The benefit is simpler setup without enabling unselected tools.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Connections catalog, OAuth grants, and the MCP tool gateway.

**Current behavior**

Google setup uses separate service profiles. A combined request alone
cannot express the user's choice before Google consent. Accumulated
Google grants can be broader than a new request.

**Proposed behavior**

Offer one Workspace connection. Let users choose Gmail, Drive (including
Docs, Sheets, and Slides), and Calendar. Start all three with read and
write access. Let users disable groups or choose read-only access. Do
not offer Chat, Contacts/directory, or cross-service Search in new
setup. Bind selected scopes to durable OAuth state. Cap effective tool
access to both the saved request and provider-reported consent.

**Reason and benefit**

Users can choose services without managing several accounts. Existing
company, identity, agent, and action-policy controls remain in force.

**Breaking changes**

No database migration. Existing service connections and grants remain
supported. New Workspace requests require the companion broker change in
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/823. Old brokers
reject narrowed requests safely.

Related work: #14740 reduced Google scopes; #14774 introduced the
earlier catalog hold. #15412 proposes a separate Gmail REST
implementation. This maintainer-requested change extends the existing
Connections and governed tool gateway paths. It does not replace them.

## What Changed

- Add one Workspace catalog entry and a namespaced action catalog.
Retain legacy definitions and saved accounts.
- Use the approved production service picker in Apps and task-hosted
setup. Keep dropdowns between names and toggles. Block empty selection.
- Derive exact scopes from a closed registry. Default selection requests
nine scopes. New requests exclude Chat, Contacts/directory, and Search
scopes.
- Bind selected scopes through managed and customer-owned OAuth state,
callback, claim redemption, and refresh.
- Cap accumulated Google grants to the saved selection. Recheck
grant-specific permission at discovery, listing, and dispatch, including
cached actions.
- Restore the current subject's saved request on reconnect. Block on
grant-load failure. Preserve draft selection on cancel and retry. Do not
create an account on picker cancellation.
- Preserve healthy services during partial outages, without combining
grants across identities. Keep writes from being automatically replayed.
- Preserve the original 21-scope legacy Workspace envelope contract as
individual profiles evolve.
- Add production-component Storybook stories, request validators,
consent regression tests, and rollout guidance. Integrate the stories
with the current feature catalog while preserving their IDs.

## Verification

- Integrated branch merges current master and has no merge conflicts.
- Full workspace build passed on the integrated checkout.
- Token gates passed. Storybook catalog structure check passed: 283
files and 2,750 stories.
- Final affected app suites: 914 passed. This includes 502
database-backed service/gateway tests and 412
UI/shared/validator/broker-handoff/governance tests. The production
picker tests cover defaults, identity-specific reconnect, and
failed-load recovery.
- Full workspace typecheck passed after adding required current-master
Storybook annotations. The final UI build also passed.
- The full repository suite is still running and includes the two
pre-fix retry assertions. Both were updated for the current gateway's
explicit-retry contract and pass in the clean 502-test database run. No
complete final-head full-suite pass is claimed.
- The initial local database startup failure came from missing
native-library symlinks in the fresh dependency install. The package's
postinstall repair fixed it; the clean database-backed run has no
skipped tests.
- Broker focused suite: 47 passed, including real signed session →
callback → claim redemption and wrong-scope rejection. Full broker suite
before the final test-only follow-up: 3,562 passed, 103 skipped.
- Real integrated-app walkthrough: Connectors → Workspace →
customer-owned app → service picker. Verified all three defaults,
empty-selection blocking, cancel/reopen with the selected read-only
access preserved, preserved form values, and zero saved connections
after cancel. Credentials were synthetic; no Google grant was made.
- Current-head CI and Greptile review remain pending. Previous-head
results are not treated as current.

## Risks

Ship the companion broker before app instances send narrowed requests.
Enable the intended Workspace client/profile separately on the target
broker. This pull request does not deploy a tenant app, start a fleet
rollout, alter Google Console, or upgrade the pinned reviewer stack.

The three-group picker is not proof of live provider access. Before
production, verify a real selected-service grant, reconnect, refresh,
allowed reads/writes, and denied unselected actions on the isolated
staging reviewer app. Google verification and preview enrollment remain
separate requirements.

Legacy service profiles stay compatible. New grant metadata keeps
provider scope evidence separate from requested scope evidence. Missing
or unsupported evidence fails closed. No scope union across user or
organization grants is allowed.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent, with repository editing, code
execution, and browser tools. The exact serving model ID and
context-window size were not exposed.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 0b62c736a0 feat(connections): add generic Daytona API and Toolbox access (#16483)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps connections give agents controlled access to external services.
> - Daytona provides sandbox, file, command, Git, and account APIs.
> - Operators need to assign this access without exposing a server
credential.
> - A small task-specific tool list cannot serve general Daytona work.
> - This pull request adds the published HTTP actions through the
existing connection gateway.
> - Operators keep control of identity, agent access, and each action.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Paperclip has a Daytona sandbox provider for its own execution
infrastructure. It lacks a normal Apps connection for agents to manage
an operator's Daytona account. Reusing the server's provider credential
would bypass normal connection ownership and action permissions.

**Proposed solution**

Add a Daytona connection with personal or shared vault credentials.
Generate its action catalog from the official platform and Toolbox API
specifications. Use the existing run-bound gateway, grants, action
policies, approvals, revocation, and audit paths. Sandbox IDs come from
Daytona; tools need no Paperclip task or lease ID.

**Alternatives considered**

A four-action diagnostic subset cannot support general provider work.
Launching the provider CLI would expose host filesystem behavior. Native
OAuth is not included because a supported third-party registration path
was not verified. The native method uses an organization API key.
Existing Composio setup is a separate possible OAuth route and is not
qualified by this change.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing Apps and Connections provider coverage in
`ROADMAP.md`. It uses that system's credential and permission model.
GitHub searches found no existing Daytona Apps connector PR or issue.

## What Changed

- Add the Daytona catalog entry, provider source override, official
theme logos, permission review, and setup documentation.
- Generate 274 HTTP actions: 169 platform and 105 Toolbox operations.
Record two WebSocket upgrades separately; do not advertise them as HTTP
tools. Record source URLs and hashes.
- Add provider-focused execution for sandboxes, snapshots, volumes,
files, Git, commands, computer use, and account resources. Provider
authority still limits which endpoints accept an organization key.
- Validate action arguments. Resolve Toolbox targets through the fixed
platform API. Check sandbox identity and organization before using an
approved Daytona proxy. Keep normal guarded network requests and vault
resolution.
- Transfer file bytes without reading or writing host files. Share one
caller deadline across prerequisite reads, dispatch, and response
reading. Bound requests and responses. Do not automatically retry writes
with unknown outcomes. Redact the selected credential from results and
errors.
- Classify credential access, access changes, interactive input, command
execution, file permissions, and deletion (including TTL and
auto-delete) as destructive actions. Keep new and changed actions under
catalog review.
- Upgrade saved catalogs and retire the earlier diagnostic names. Hide
retired actions from the UI and agent discovery even when provider
refresh fails. Preserve existing action choices and historical records.
Reject stale same-name contracts during agent discovery and dispatch
before a board refresh.
- Add database-backed gateway and catalog-upgrade regressions, schema
generator tests, a browser setup check, and both capability map updates.

## Verification

- Passed on the review-fix head: 57 focused Vitest cases (18 Daytona
database/client cases, five HTTP boundary cases, and 34 shared catalog
cases), four generator tests, `pnpm -r typecheck`, and `pnpm build`. The
five HTTP cases use a real local server through the pinned production
transport. The normal browser setup check and 17 generator/artwork cases
passed on the initial PR head; those UI and artwork paths are unchanged.
- Passed on this branch: brand asset validation, token gates, map
structure checks, and `git diff --check`. All latest-head GitHub checks
pass on `ea979ccb3a64dc9508807823540f935c4316ea35`. Apex is 5/5, with
all five findings addressed and zero unresolved threads. The branch has
no merge conflicts.
- The initial catalog-generation command could not find the external
research corpus. The supported `--definitions-only` mode regenerated the
definitions successfully. Unrelated generated drift was excluded.
- An earlier full local Vitest attempt on the preview branch failed when
bundled PostgreSQL could not start on macOS. After replay onto current
master, all three unchanged event-sequencing cases pass with bundled
PostgreSQL; the earlier startup cause remains uncertain.
- The first full-suite command on this branch used my external test
database override. Chat fixtures require a current migrated schema and
failed because `agents.lifecycle_state` was absent in that disposable
database. A focused comparison reproduces failure with the override and
passes with normal setup. That attempt was stopped, and the full suite
restarted without the override. Focused Daytona cases use their own
migrated PostgreSQL 16 databases.
- The clean local full-suite attempt recorded embedded PostgreSQL
startup failures in two unchanged native-runtime cases and two failures
in unchanged Git fixtures. It was stopped after these failures were
isolated; no full local suite pass is claimed. The 15 matching
native-runtime cases pass separately. The Git cases fail with the local
`init.defaultBranch=main` setting and pass with `GIT_CONFIG_COUNT=1
GIT_CONFIG_KEY_0=init.defaultBranch GIT_CONFIG_VALUE_0=master` limited
to the test command. No global Git setting was changed. Full Linux CI is
green.
- Fixtures use real database persistence and run-bound gateway sessions
with provider responses replaced by fixtures. They cover personal/shared
vault ownership, reads and writes, file bytes, Off policies, revocation,
organization mismatch, untrusted proxy rejection, output bounds, saved
catalog upgrades, failed refresh, and permission preservation.
- The first Apex review found five valid issues: multipart transport
compatibility, destructive classification, caller deadlines, audit
filters, and stale saved contracts. All five were fixed with regressions
before the second review. A typecheck then found the nullable saved
schema hash; admission now accepts that stored type and rejects null as
stale.
- The browser check covers setup controls without submitting a provider
key. No real Daytona account, provider write, native OAuth flow, or
agent model run is qualified. Live provider read/write proof remains
pending a test account.

## Risks

- Daytona keys have broad Toolbox authority, including keys with no
selected resource scopes. Only assign this connection to trusted agents
and review its action permissions.
- Remote writes or commands can continue after a timeout. Calls do not
automatically retry an uncertain outcome.
- The bridge targets Daytona Cloud. Proxy hosts are restricted; an
unrecognized future regional host fails closed.
- Files and responses have an 8 MiB bound. Each action has one caller
deadline, capped at 30 seconds across all provider requests and response
reading. Interactive WebSocket sessions are not exposed as HTTP actions.
- The generated JSON snapshot exceeds 1,000 lines because it holds the
provider input contracts. Generator logic and execution code remain in
separate small modules. Updates require explicit regeneration and
catalog review.
- No database migration or lockfile change is required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The runtime identifies the model family but does
not expose the exact backend model ID or context window. Used reasoning,
repository inspection, code editing, shell tools, database verification,
and browser tests.

DottaandPaperclip ed2c22ea8c feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use.
> - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository
access.
> - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that
connection hard to finish.
> - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve
creation and repository access.
> - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials,
signature verification, and task admission.
> - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway,
then completes setup in the stack.
> - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat
connector opt-in does not control them.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub
replies.

**Current behavior**

Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository
selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are
hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic
completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment.

**Proposed behavior**

Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or
organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent.
Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports
access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has
one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review
assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit.

**Breaking changes**

GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The
setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person
automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters.
Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual
existing-App recovery remain supported.

Companion gateway:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The
roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard
was found.

## What Changed

- Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog,
routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue
running when the UI setting is off.
- Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal
and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts,
known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App
recovery.
- Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage,
installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in
the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and
outbound local delivery.
- Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed
registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than
creating another App route.
- Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline
comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source
identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter
requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot.
- Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one
working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced
requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier
working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections
without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication
evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking
Board messages or questions.
- Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions,
numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review
tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding
links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs.
- Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true
connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token
limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor.
- Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest
100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery,
authorization, UI, and browser regressions.
- Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar,
feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a
saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port.

## Verification

- Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199
passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates`
passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource
timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused
reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser
shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and
Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it
passed without changing the code.
- Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck
passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI
timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced
comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native
final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the
attachment suite.
- Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait
tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview,
and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair
also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete
chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the
normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local
timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI
shard.
- GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry
recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests,
delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and
company boundaries.
- Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider
setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery
journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat
disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable
qualification database was removed after testing.
- Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native
slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with
a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke
repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot
execution authority.

## Risks

- Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each
callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and
tenant binding.
- Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations
that already applied the earlier draft migration number.
- A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed
review. Runtime checks remain separate.
- Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric
score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools
remain opt-in.
- Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest
exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and
agent.
- Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all
currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without
granting new installation access.
- A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text;
the governed outbox retains its evidence. Deleted or replaced response
comments are not recreated through a personal credential fallback.
- GitHub logo upload remains an optional human action in GitHub App
settings. Runtime provisioning, delegated setup, screenshot publication,
and production push delivery remain deferred.

## Model Used

exact runtime model identifier and context size are not exposed in this
session.

DottaandPaperclip 2b688a8fe3 feat(connections): add verified MCP providers and setup fixes (#15621)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps give agents governed access to external tools.
> - Several provider MCP servers lacked a supported catalog entry or
failed during setup.
> - Real browser tests identified specific registration, session, and
form defects.
> - This pull request adds seven catalog entries and fixes the shared
paths used by eleven verified providers.
> - Users can connect these providers through the existing Apps flow and
control each action.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The Apps catalog and remote MCP setup, discovery, and action tester.

**Subsystem affected**

Shared app definitions, the server tool services, and the Apps UI.

**Current behavior**

Seven providers lack a catalog entry. Airtable can select an advertised
client-metadata flow that fails. Calendly rejects the registration name.
Tavily needs an initialized session before a call. Firecrawl exposes
invalid defaults for optional nested form objects. HTTPS setup can
display a callback that differs from the server callback.

**Proposed behavior**

Add Calendly, Exa, Firecrawl, GSC Wizard, Parallel Search, Tavily, and
Windsor.ai. Preserve Airtable, Linear, Make, and PostHog. Use reviewed
provider options through the shared MCP and OAuth paths. Display the
callback supplied by the server. Omit untouched optional object inputs.

**Reason and benefit**

Eleven providers passed bounded reads through the real Paperclip browser
action tester. This PR includes that verified set and its required
shared fixes. Unfinished providers remain outside this change. AgentMail
keeps its existing integration.

**Breaking changes**

No database migration. Existing OAuth credentials and action policies
keep their ownership and access rules. Airtable's reviewed method
re-registers a retained client-metadata binding through DCR. Tavily's
reviewed method initializes sessions before dispatch. The existing
customer, managed, and Vercel OAuth gateway paths now refresh on
upstream 401 and return `oauth_refreshed_retry_required` (409),
requiring an explicit caller retry. They do not replay the rejected call
automatically; the next invocation initializes a fresh credential-scoped
session when required.

Related catalog work: #15545. This branch preserves current master
catalog entries and does not add another Google Workspace integration.
Open and closed provider PRs and public MCP issues were searched. No
duplicate for this verified set was found. The change extends the
shipped Connected Apps roadmap item.

## What Changed

- Add seven catalog entries with official provider branding and reviewed
permissions.
- Update Airtable, Linear, and Make metadata and show Make in Apps.
- Add authoritative provider source overrides that use the existing
generation and review checks.
- Add the reviewed Airtable DCR option and compatible Calendly
registration names.
- Initialize Tavily sessions before discovery and calls, including
retained connections. Keep credential-scoped session caching and single
call dispatch.
- Use the server's callback URL in the OAuth setup UI.
- Omit untouched optional object defaults; keep supplied empty strings,
false, zero, and object values intact in the action tester, with strict
required-child validation.
- Require an explicit retry after OAuth refresh instead of replaying a
tools/call with missing session headers.
- Record all eleven successful reads, write policies, auth-method
limits, and qualification caveats. Omit credentials and private account
data.
- Find chat connector cards through catalog search in browser tests, so
pagination does not hide Slack or other later entries.

## Verification

- Real browser qualification: eleven bounded reads passed. Catalog
refresh and reload proof are recorded in
`doc/connections/verified-mcp-qualification-2026-10-08.md`.
- Provider writes and actual agent-adapter sessions were not run.
Alternative documented auth methods and expiry refresh remain
unqualified.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed.
- `pnpm build`: passed.
- Focused shared/catalog tests: 41 passed. Source override tests: 3
passed. Catalog regeneration fixture suite: 9 passed. Latest form
regression suites: 31 passed. Gateway suite: 38 passed. Other focused UI
suites passed before these last fixes.
- UI token gates and both token sync checks: passed.
- The catalog regeneration fixture includes the authoritative provider
overrides; its full suite passes. The focused OAuth socket case passed
on isolated rerun.
- Complete local UI suite: 7,866 passed. CLI suite: 511 passed, 6
skipped. Complete shared suite: 892 passed.
- The unchanged AgentMail/ClickUp discovery fallback suite passes all 45
cases. An OpenAI login test passed on isolated rerun.
- Local broad database coverage is limited by macOS PostgreSQL
shared-memory exhaustion (`shmget: No space left on device`, not disk
space). The broad run was interrupted after diagnosis; no host settings
or other running services were changed.
- CI found that the Slack browser test assumed its catalog card was on
the first page. The test now uses catalog search; the Slack case passes
locally. Adjacent GitHub and iMessage cases could not start locally
because embedded PostgreSQL initialization failed before browser
assertions.
- Final commit
[`febe4520e`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/commit/febe4520e13d4b3a4121eafc3d22540c2b11379d):
all 54 checks passed, with none pending or failed. [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37847182065)
passed typecheck, build, all general and serialized test suites, all
eight browser shards, runner checks, canary dry run, and the aggregate
verification gate.
- Greptile reviewed that exact final commit at 2026-10-08 21:33 UTC and
returned 5/5 with no outstanding findings or unresolved threads.
- PR UI preview against the existing local test server: Calendly
catalog/setup observed; Firecrawl read passed after expanding More
options with nested optional inputs untouched. This retest proves
frontend behavior, not the revised OAuth backend against a live
provider.

## Risks

- Provider registration and consent behavior can change. Airtable's DCR
option is explicit and keeps the existing issuer, resource, redirect,
and PKCE checks.
- Tavily uses initialized sessions without automatic call retries. After
a successful OAuth refresh following 401, callers now receive a
retry-required result. A later explicit retry can still require
reauthorization if the provider rejects the refreshed token. Provider
writes are not live-qualified.
- Optional object cleanup affects the shared action tester. Regression
tests cover absent objects, required children, defaults, and populated
values.
- GSC Wizard's underlying Google data scopes and Google flow completion
were not independently verified. Its account reported paid/trial
metadata of unknown origin. No purchase was performed.
- No database migration, new AgentMail integration, or change to
existing action grants is included.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with implementation, research, tool
use, and code execution. The root backend model ID and context window
are not exposed in this session. The cheaper subagents used OpenAI
`gpt-6-luna`. No model context size is inferred.

DottaandPaperclip d66acb7ac1 feat: automate Slack bot app setup and installation (#15413)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Chat connectors give each agent a customer-owned bot and task-backed
conversations.
> - Manual Slack setup requires app creation and copying durable
credentials.
> - Operators need a shorter setup that an assisting agent can use
safely.
> - This pull request creates the app through Slack's Manifest API and
installs it through OAuth.
> - Durable registration state supports recovery without creating
another app.
> - A four-screen wizard, automatic avatar upload, and OAuth account
linking reduce setup work.
> - Connector settings and per-turn tool guidance support daily use
after installation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Native Slack bot setup, company secret storage, chat connector
management, and agent tool guidance.

**Problem or motivation**

New Slack bots require manual app creation and copying a signing secret
and bot token. Interrupted setup can create duplicate apps. The setup
and management screens contain unnecessary controls. Agents also need
guidance for native questions, files, thread replies, and governed Slack
actions.

**Proposed solution**

Use a temporary app-configuration access token to create a
customer-owned app. Save durable secrets in the vault. Bind OAuth to the
initiating actor, company, endpoint, registration revision, scopes, and
configured origins. Preserve manual and existing-app recovery. Link the
installing user's account, send a welcome DM, and advance from saved
server evidence. Keep request-URL recovery instructions available if
automatic connection detection waits.

**Alternatives considered**

The Slack CLI adds installation requirements. Socket Mode changes
transport. A shared Paperclip-owned app changes app ownership. These
alternatives are outside this change.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends existing chat connectors and secrets capabilities. Related
public work: #14037 and #13954 cover Slack MCP prerequisites and user
OAuth. No duplicate bot-registration PR was found.

## What Changed

- Share one reviewed manifest builder between automatic registration and
manual setup.
- Add replay-safe migration 0318 and company-bound registration state
with vault references and uncertain-creation recovery.
- Add registration, installation, callback, and resume APIs with
short-lived, single-use OAuth state.
- Save installation credentials before downstream checks and preserve
bot identity constraints.
- Reduce automatic setup to four screens. Keep advanced app details,
manual recovery, and existing-app setup.
- Upload the agent avatar with the Paperclip dark background. Link the
OAuth installer's account and send setup DMs.
- Show agent and connector-owner avatars. Simplify settings, access, and
conversation screens.
- Discover joined Slack channels and enable them by default. Start a
task from a bare mention and admit same-thread follow-ups.
- Refresh Slack tool guidance each turn. Add native-form, file,
approval, and delivery regressions plus manual model probe definitions
and sanitized acceptance records.
- Update deployment/database docs, OpenAPI, redaction, removal cleanup,
production Storybook stories, and provider browser tests.
- Merge current master and move the registration migration after its
latest migration without rewriting published commits.

The completed Slack success view intentionally has a single centered
**Done** action and no **Save & exit**, as explicitly requested by the
product owner. `DESIGN.md` records this exception; unfinished setup
steps retain the aligned wizard footer.

## Verification

- Passed after the master merge: repository typecheck, full build,
Storybook build, design-token gates, module-boundary gates, and
migration generation.
- Passed: all 352 focused Slack deterministic tests and all 14 affected
provider browser tests. Browser tests use controlled provider fixtures
and a separate throwaway instance.
- Passed on current head `c5d01e0e2`: the complete GitHub test matrix
(general server, chat, all workspaces, serialized server, and Runner),
all eight browser shards, typecheck/release registry, build, canary dry
run, security checks, and policy gates. There are 52 passing checks and
no pending or failing checks.
- Greptile completed on the exact current head with 5/5 and no
actionable findings or open review threads.
- Local repair verification passed 93 focused tests, including same-app
reinstall after revocation and rejection of consent started before
revocation, the AgentMail browser journey, and repository typecheck.
Local build and Storybook build also passed. The redundant local
full-suite rerun was stopped after the complete current-head CI matrix
passed.
- Real Slack setup and agent replies were exercised in the authorized
isolated test drive during the setup iteration.
- The ten additional model probes were attempted with legacy
`codex_local`, `gpt-5.6-sol`: five passed, two failed, and three were
partly verified. Native runtime is not qualified. See
`server/src/services/connectors/slack/evals/2026-10-08-acceptance.md`
for evidence and limits.
- Passing model probes cover native forms, downloaded file bytes, bare
mentions with thread replies, explicit posts/reactions, and saved
approval denial.
- The controlled uncertain-write probe found wrong delivery-check IDs.
The canvas fallback attempt used an invented tool name. Search
pagination/native search, a private-source denied-tool receipt, and
distinct board/webhook origins remain unqualified.

Reviewer path: enable Chat connectors, start Slack chat setup, select an
agent, enter an app-configuration access token, and approve Slack
installation. Send a message to the bot and confirm that setup advances
to success. Inspect settings and allowed channels. See
`doc/connections/SLACK-AUTOMATIC-SETUP.md` for deployment and recovery.

## Risks

- Slack app creation has no provider idempotency guarantee. A timeout
after dispatch stays uncertain until the operator checks Slack.
- OAuth needs a stable public HTTPS board origin. Webhook ingress may
use a separate configured HTTPS origin. Workspace policy can delay
installation.
- Migration 0318 can replay safely on instances that applied the earlier
development migration.
- OAuth installation now links the installer to the initiating Paperclip
user. Identity checks and company access rules still apply.
- Joined channels now enable bot responses by default. Linked-user
authorization and per-action approval rules still apply.
- Model behavior has the documented delivery-check and canvas fallback
failures. A passing CI run does not establish that every model probe
passed.
- Removing the connection does not delete the customer's Slack app. No
new first-party telemetry is added.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and browser verification. The runtime does not expose a more
specific authoring model ID or context-window size. The live bot probes
used OpenAI `gpt-5.6-sol` through `codex_local` in legacy mode.

DottaandPaperclip 0e0b63e5a5 feat(connections): add experimental task-pinned AI routing (#14967)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - AI Connections separate account access from models and harnesses.
> - A pool must act as one connection while retaining each task’s
account.
> - Core must enforce member access and preserve session and recovery
rules.
> - A plugin supplies rotation policy without receiving credentials.
> - This change adds durable routing and native connector setup and
management.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

AI Connections, Connectors, plugins, run dispatch, and session
compatibility.

**Problem or motivation**

Operators need to rotate new tasks across saved accounts while each task
keeps its account and session. Pool setup must fit the existing
connector catalog and account workflow.

**Proposed solution**

Add an experimental router binding, a capability-gated plugin hook, and
transactional task pins. Plugins declare native pooled connectors
through `aiConnectionRouter`. Core hosts the existing-account picker,
ordering step, and account settings. Related usage contract: #14936.
Companion private plugin:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/643.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends Apps and AI Connections. Core supplies generic enforcement
and native connector UI; the private plugin owns rotation and quota
policy. The prior duplicate search found no matching router
implementation.

## What Changed

- Add a router binding without changing existing concrete bindings. Keep
the instance flag and new pools disabled by default. Require manual
operator configuration. Show no routing toggle in Experimental settings
on either open-source or Cloud installs, even after routing is enabled.
- Persist company-scoped pools, one shared cursor per pool, and pins
keyed by company, pool, agent, and task. Commit pins and cursor advances
together with revision checks and bounded retries. Persist run-ID
affinity before allocation.
- Pass only authorized metadata and normalized usage to plugins. Core
retains credential handling, member access checks, runtime
qualification, and recovery evidence. Probe outside locks with a shared
15-second budget and freshness cache.
- Resolve routing before credential preparation and backend selection.
Preserve pins through turns, session resets, removed members, and quota
waits. Retain admitted recovery after disable or uninstall.
- Separate credential session epochs from token generations. Verified
refresh preserves the epoch; reconnect and manual replacement change it.
Include the credential slot ID in session and usage-cache identity, so
reconnecting an indexed legacy account invalidates its old session even
when both epochs are zero.
- Validate pool member installations before accepting saved-agent
bindings and recheck compatibility when the harness changes. Install
only authorized members in the new-agent transaction and record their
IDs in local activity. Pool membership cannot install a restricted
shared connection.
- Preserve pool bindings when agents hire teammates through either
creation API or native caller runtime inheritance. Block stale manager
credential references; retain explicit child authentication precedence
and reject incompatible inherited pools.
- Add native connector registration through plugin metadata. Reuse the
Connectors catalog, setup header, account header, sidebar, dialogs, and
usage display. Setup selects and orders saved connections. Advanced
settings hold usage rules and member runtime defaults. New-account setup
opens in another tab.
- Use revision-checked pool archival from the Connectors catalog and
account page. Keep task pins, cursors, recovery evidence, and underlying
connections. Reject ordinary connection updates or removals that bypass
pool revisions.
- Add pool selectors, composer models, override notes, quota status, run
details, activity records, and local run-log records. Keep
session-adoption copy minimal.
- Show **Used by** below the pool connections. List current company
agents with shared avatars and profile links. Include paused agents;
exclude terminated agents and agents using another pool.
- Add Core stories for the generic connector workflow and runtime
surfaces. Cloud stories reuse these production routes and tokens through
a preview-only alias.

## Verification

- Final head `73cb953bca30ed83e4505dd820edd9b5edffd28b`: full workspace
`pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass
locally.
- All 422 focused connector/settings/shared-contract/migration tests and
all 156 database-backed AI connection, hiring, reconnect, and
durable-routing cases pass (69 hiring cases rerun after the final
auth-precedence fix). The merged shared contract retains connection
instructions and pool metadata. The pool migration is generated at
sequence 0299 after the latest upstream migrations; this PR makes no
lockfile changes.
- All four full-app Playwright tests pass on the final head after a cold
restart and migration, against the installed private plugin and isolated
database, with no route or pool-API mocks. They cover hidden routing
controls after manual opt-in, native pool creation, ordering, membership
edits, rename, paused defaults, enabling/save/refresh persistence, stale
edits, cancellation/removal, preserved underlying accounts, unavailable
routers, and Used by avatars and profile links. Exact command:
`PAPERCLIP_CONNECTION_POOL_E2E=1
AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_COMPANY_ID=a37b9625-5ecf-4e29-8081-04df3d6e7d6f
AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_URL=http://127.0.0.1:3108 pnpm exec playwright test
--config tests/ai-connections-app/playwright.config.ts
connection-pools.spec.ts`.
- [Native setup, ordering, and management
screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-6006976278)
address the review follow-up. [Earlier selector, quota, and run-detail
screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-5971537316)
show the runtime surfaces. Core previews: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui
storybook`, then **Connectors / Pool host** or **AI Connections /
Connection pools**. Cloud owns its host-backed plugin stories; both
repositories’ Operator Setup Required story assertions pass.
- Live acceptance used OpenAI/Codex and Anthropic/Claude ACPX, resumed
both exact sessions after restart, preserved pinned accounts through
explicit reset and controlled quota deferral/recovery, and committed
only two allocations across fourteen runs. A later UI-created task test
again rotated OpenAI then Anthropic and resumed OpenAI through
follow-up/restart/quota recovery. That later Anthropic execution was
blocked by its saved OAuth token expiring (provider 401). No live usage
probes ran.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted earlier and did not
complete because of macOS embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap/shared-memory
failures and the 40,000-file Git fixture timeout. The focused database
suites above now pass; full-suite verification is provided by the split
CI lanes. The preceding CI run had one runtime readiness timeout; it
passes locally both alone and inside the larger runtime suite. That
larger local suite also encountered an embedded PostgreSQL setup failure
and two macOS temporary-path alias assertions; those two assertions pass
with canonical TMPDIR=/private/tmp. All final-head CI checks are
terminal green, including full general/serialized server suites, Runner
checks, browser E2E shards, canary verification, build, and typecheck.
Greptile is 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads.

## Risks

- The migration adds routing tables and a credential epoch column.
Install the private plugin only with the compatible Core contract.
- Routing and each pool require opt-in. Production distribution and
fleet defaults remain unchanged.
- Unknown usage stays eligible. Known pinned exhaustion waits; revoked
access requires operator repair.
- Legacy adapters require compatible members. Runner model and effort
overrides remain limited by qualified backend support.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code
execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and
context window are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 4857799a88 feat(connections): deliver saved instructions to authorized agent turns (#15216)
Persist optional connection instructions and deliver authorized snapshots to agent execution prompts. Keep provider templates with each app definition, preserve edits and opt-outs, and replace sessions when guidance or access changes.

Use shared production settings across setup and Permissions, with source visibility in agent Instructions. Add the initial memory-provider defaults and managed Honcho workspace configuration. Include migration 0298 and regression coverage for generic providers, runtime delivery, authorization, and catalog regeneration.

DottaandPaperclip b43073d11f feat(connections): sync and group accounts managed by aggregators (#15254)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connections give agents governed access to external tools.
> - Aggregator gateways can expose accounts that users already connected
upstream.
> - The Apps catalog did not show those accounts or their current
provider status.
> - Separate cards and setup tasks also made account ownership unclear.
> - This pull request discovers upstream accounts and groups them under
one app card.
> - Users can find connected apps while each provider keeps control of
its accounts.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Connections across the database, shared contracts, server, and board UI.

**Problem or motivation**

Users cannot see which apps are connected through a saved aggregator
gateway. Native and upstream accounts need one app card. Discovery must
preserve company, user, gateway, and credential boundaries.

**Proposed solution**

Sync account metadata from Composio, Arcade, and supported Executor
gateways. Keep upstream account management in each provider. Use source
chips and search to browse the catalog. Preserve native setup and the
gateway's existing access policy.

**Alternatives considered**

Creating a local executable connection for each upstream account would
duplicate authorization state. Using an agent task for routine Composio
setup would add an unnecessary step. The board now calls the saved
gateway directly for that setup.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the shipped Connected Apps and MCP Tool Gateway features in
ROADMAP.md. The duplicate search found no open PR for managed account
discovery.

Related work: Refs #13755, Refs #13941, Refs #14725, Refs #13855. Open
PR #12906 covers adjacent toolkit routing work.

## What Changed

- Add provider-neutral discovery, sync, and refresh APIs. Preserve the
Composio API paths.
- Cache observations by company, saved gateway, viewing user, and
credential version. Retain stale observations after failed or incomplete
scans.
- Add optional Arcade account sync credentials in the vault. Discover
Executor accounts through its supported inventory interface.
- Group native and upstream accounts in one app card. Imported account
menus open their provider. Gateway menus own refresh and sync setup.
- Add Paperclip, Composio, Arcade, Installed, and All chips. Show 50
catalog entries per page. Keep connected accounts above discovery. Keep
explicit provider searches scoped.
- Simplify Composio app setup and refresh its connected app list on the
gateway Permissions page.
- Add a compact agent access card and task creation defaults for
connection setup. Preserve explicit blocks and approval policies.
- Add two replay-safe migrations, service and UI tests, Storybook
journeys, and acceptance stories.

## Verification

- Passed the repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and
migration ordering check.
- Passed the focused provider adapter, connection interaction, and
catalog tests after rebasing onto master.
- Passed all nine database sync and migration replay tests using a
disposable database on the test-drive PostgreSQL cluster. Removed that
database after the run.
- Verified Arcade cursor pagination against its official Go SDK and
passed all eight adapter tests, including short and incomplete pages.
- Passed all 45 interaction tests after making the exact requested tools
and their Allowed/Ask first permissions visible before granting access.
Verified the compact card in Storybook.
- Passed the complete UI suite on the final code: 683 files and 7,432
tests, including the corrected Composio destination assertions. Passed
130 focused tests for the UUID, management-link, and health-status
corrections.
- Passed 22 Composio setup/sync tests, 23 connection-intent service
tests, and the connection migration test in separate disposable
databases. Database startup alone was substituted; the suites exercised
their real SQL and services.
- Passed all 10 OpenAPI route checks and the full-stack
connection-intent browser test, including scoped consent, agent
continuation, and task completion.
- The local full runner encountered embedded PostgreSQL startup failures
on this loaded macOS host. The earlier in-flight run also held the
pre-fix Arcade transform; a fresh run of the final provider suite
passes. The final-head CI is queued during GitHub’s active Actions
incident: https://www.githubstatus.com/. The previous run also lost
several runners simultaneously; its real catalog assertion failures are
fixed and the fresh complete UI suite passes.
- Tested the real test-drive server in the embedded browser with a live
Composio gateway. Detected Airtable and Circleback. Verified refresh
progress, account rows, source chips, search scope, and 50-entry
pagination.
- Arcade and Executor coverage uses provider fixtures. Live credentials
were unavailable.
- Storybook builds successfully and includes grouped native/provider
accounts, stale and unavailable discovery, optional Arcade setup, and
mobile states. The acceptance document records the simulated and live
coverage separately.

- Greptile reviewed final commit
`217b024c27b5933e773ce9419c4e92b1032042c6` at 5/5. All six review
threads are resolved, security scans pass, and the PR has no merge
conflicts. The outstanding remote checks are `ci / Select trusted
runner` and `review`, queued by GitHub. They need to complete before
merge.

## Risks

- Provider response changes can break inventory discovery. Failed scans
retain observations and show stale status.
- Composio scans only the supported catalog and can take time. Large
inventories run in the background with progress and a bounded lease.
- Arcade requires a project API key and user ID when the gateway cannot
supply them. This key is used only for discovery.
- Executor discovery depends on the server's exposed inventory tools.
Unsupported servers report unavailable discovery.
- Cached account rows do not grant access or create executable
connections. Gateway policies still govern tool use. Account deletion
and per-app authorization remain upstream.
- The migrations add tables and one nullable column. Replay preserves
existing rows and company-scoped foreign keys.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The session does not expose a more
specific serving model ID or context limit. Used reasoning, repository
tools, code execution, and browser verification.

DottaandPaperclip 4ac374103f fix(connections): repair Asana MCP and add shared-app sign-in (#14756)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Connections let agents use provider tools through the permission
gateway.
> - Asana provides an official remote MCP server, but its v2 server
requires a registered MCP OAuth app.
> - Setup can discover retired v1 endpoints and send a callback that
differs from the displayed URL.
> - This pull request repairs custom app setup and adds sign-in through
Paperclip's shared app.
> - Users can choose their own app without enrolling with Paperclip
Cloud.
> - Agents can use Asana tools after the user connects their account and
sets action permissions.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Related: #14739 supplies the personal credential repair used by resumed
Asana setup. No duplicate Asana authentication PR was found.

**What happened?**

Asana setup failed even with a user-created app. Root discovery metadata
still points at v1. MCP v2 uses the Asana OAuth issuer and requires an
MCP app with a client secret. Local setup also displayed a localhost
callback while an Origin header could make authorization use a numeric
loopback callback.

**Expected behavior**

Sign in with Paperclip's app when its broker profile is available. Keep
custom MCP app setup available without Cloud enrollment. Use the correct
issuer, callback, client credentials, and resource throughout setup.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open Asana in the connection catalog.
2. Supply an Asana MCP app's client ID and secret.
3. Start OAuth on a local instance opened with a numeric loopback
address, or resume a draft that cached v1 metadata.
4. Observe the wrong discovery endpoint or callback mismatch.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced from b54b2dc35c. Rebased onto
master at `0829d94af` after the single-screen setup change in #14811.

**Deployment mode**

Local development from source. The managed path also supports enrolled
self-hosted instances.

## What Changed

- Add the `asana.mcp` managed profile and the default Sign in with Asana
method.
- Use Asana's reviewed v2 protected-resource metadata before cached
endpoints.
- Require a custom MCP app's client secret and retain saved credentials
during setup or reconnect. Repair only the known Asana v1
issuer/resource binding, retaining company and callback checks.
- Expose a boolean for the acting user's saved client secret. The form
offers secret reuse only when that user has an active grant with the
required reference.
- Let users select their own app from the enrollment and
shared-app-unavailable screens, or from Advanced on the single-screen
setup page.
- Canonicalize HTTP loopback callbacks even when the request includes an
Origin header.
- Extend signed broker claims and provider URL validation for Asana.
Require refresh credentials on managed authorization.
- Document setup, distribution, and shared-app rollout requirements.
- Resolve permission-profile name collisions when finishing another
account. The live staging test found this after renaming the first Asana
connection; OAuth succeeded but profile finalization failed.

## Verification

- Final live staging proof used app commit
`c6053157c4e42ac017727117b754ae77fa5c45fa` and the real Cloud broker at
`767b63835170f664542afd0df99a76615e204b62`. In the embedded browser,
default shared sign-in required no client credentials, returned through
the central Cloud callback to the tenant, and discovered 39 actions. Get
me succeeded through the gateway as the selected QA agent (2.1 seconds).
The custom-app connection also returned a real result on this final
build (0.9 seconds).
- Retried the shared draft that failed during the first staging test. It
completed after the profile-name fix, retained the selected agent, and
kept the existing custom connection intact. Two database regressions
reproduced the collision before the fix and passed afterward. The
updated transaction rollback test also passes.
- Shared reconnect returned to the same staging connection with 39
actions. Earlier staging checks verified the custom-app fallback when
the shared profile was unavailable, saved-secret reuse on reconnect, and
Off blocking the action test. Allowed was restored after that check.
- Local live-provider checks also repaired a saved Asana v1
issuer/resource binding without reentering the secret and verified that
numeric-loopback setup uses the displayed localhost callback. Expiring
the local managed access-token timestamp triggered a real Asana refresh
and a successful Get me call. These early local broker tests used
enrollment/authentication and storage fixtures; the final staging proof
used deployed Cloud identity and persistent storage.
- The new production app is registered and configured, but production
sign-in has not been deployed or verified. Live provider revocation was
not run because the existing staging test app is shared with other
connections.

- After rebasing onto the single-screen setup flow, full `pnpm -r
typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. Focused
verification passes 365 service and 36 broker-client tests. Broader
checks pass all 833 shared-package tests and all 530 connector-page
tests. The shared suite uses `TMPDIR=/private/tmp` to avoid macOS
temporary-directory symlinks in its canonical-path tests. The UI tests
verify the shared-app default and switching to a custom app with its
required client secret.
- Embedded-browser smoke on the current rebased build verified the
shared sign-in default, Advanced → custom app (client ID and secret
required), and switching back to Paperclip. Both existing Asana
connections remained connected after restart. No new provider
authorization was performed during this smoke.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` was interrupted when the execution
session restarted. Before interruption, it reported one runtime-slot
restart test failure. That test passed on an isolated retry after
clearing two unused PostgreSQL shared-memory segments. The full local
suite did not complete; CI must pass on the current head before merge.
- All 52 CI and security checks pass on
`9318fd4e9b616cdc3de12f40cdb9bd32d865af4c` (CI run `36882064080`),
including all eight browser shards, nine serialized-server shards,
build, typecheck, and canary dry run. Two optional Storybook checks were
skipped. Greptile review 4 reports 5/5 on this exact commit, with all
review threads resolved. Its updated summary identifies the current SHA;
this comment-triggered review did not publish a separate GitHub check
run.
- Provider revocation is unit-tested in the companion broker. Live
provider revocation was not run because the existing test app is shared
with other connections.

## Risks

- The shared Paperclip Asana MCP app has been registered with its
production callback and Any workspace distribution. Its secret is
provisioned in the production secret store, and the runtime client ID
and secret reference are configured. The production profile is enabled
in the saved deployment configuration. The companion broker has merged
and passed staging deployment; production sign-in still requires a
production deployment and live verification. Custom setup remains
available.
- Asana MCP uses the provider's fixed `default` grant. Paperclip action
policies limit agent tool use; they do not narrow provider consent.
- The callback correction affects HTTP loopback OAuth flows. Public
HTTPS callbacks retain their existing behavior.
- Reviewed discovery URLs now override stale cached endpoints. Tests
cover the Asana v1-to-v2 repair.
- No schema migration. Connection removal retains the existing
local-only revocation behavior.

467125fafb feat(connections): one-screen connector setup with stated defaults (#14811)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents use Connections (the Apps catalog) to act in services like
Notion, GitHub, Google Workspace and Railway
> - Each connector asked the user to answer setup questions before it
went to the provider. Most of the questions already had the correct
answer selected
> - ROADMAP.md lists "simpler setup" for Apps and Connections as ongoing
work. This change continues that work
> - This pull request removes the questions that Paperclip can answer
itself. It states the defaults in one line and moves the choices behind
"Change" and onto the Permissions tab
> - The benefit is that most connectors take one click in Paperclip and
then the provider's own consent screen

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public issue exists. This is the description, from the enhancement
template.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**
The setup flow for tool connectors in the Apps catalog.

**Subsystem affected**
Apps and Connections: `ui/src/features/connections`,
`ui/src/pages/apps`, the `packages/shared` app definitions, and the
OAuth routes in `server/src/routes/tool-access.ts`.

**Current behavior**
Every connector opened with an Access step. The step asked who can use
the connection and which agents get it, and both answers were already
selected. 18 connectors also asked "How do you want to connect?" when
Paperclip could rank the methods. The Google apps and Postman also asked
"What should Paperclip be able to do?" before sign-in. The four gateway
connectors (Zapier, Arcade, Composio, Executor) used a separate two-step
wizard. Asana was pinned to a customer-owned OAuth app, so the user had
to register an app in Asana's developer console. The "Set all" control
on the Permissions tab changed only one action. After the user approved
access, Railway's consent page showed "you can close this window" and
did not return to Paperclip.

**Proposed behavior**
One screen per connector, with one primary button. The screen states the
defaults in one sentence, for example "Connects for everyone in your
organization, available to all agents". A "Change" link opens one
Advanced panel. When the provider's metadata allows dynamic client
registration, Paperclip registers a client itself. Connecting lands on
the Permissions tab. On that tab, "Set all" changes every action in the
group.

**Reason and benefit**
The user makes fewer decisions before the connection exists. Most
choices are easier to make after the connection, on the Permissions tab,
where a change has an immediate effect.

**Breaking changes**
None. No schema or API change. Existing connections keep their settings.

## What Changed

- **No Access step.** `ConnectionSetupFlow` no longer has the Access
step. The flow shows the resolved default above the primary button and
on the completion screen. The access controls moved into one Advanced
panel. The panel opens automatically only when a setting in it is
required.
- **A default method for every app.** The flow always picks the ranked
default method. Alternate methods are in the Advanced panel. The Google
and Postman capability choice is not asked before sign-in. The
write-capable method is the default.
- **Gateway connectors.** `RemoteMcpProductionSetup` (Zapier, Arcade,
Composio, Executor) no longer has its own Access step. Its commit path
and the main commit path use one helper, `askFirstCatalogEntryIdsFor`,
for server-suggested defaults.
- **Dynamic registration from live metadata.**
`canRegisterOAuthClientDynamically` now allows registration when the
provider advertises a registration endpoint, even if the catalog entry
lists only customer-owned clients. The Asana and Linear definitions and
catalog text match live probes. Asana issues clients for loopback
callbacks only, so a hosted deployment still needs an Asana app.
- **Connection setup states.** New
`packages/shared/src/connection-setup-state.ts` sorts each method into
`instant`, `authorize`, `paste` or `register`. The gallery card verb
("Connect" or "Add key") comes from this resolver and the instance's
ownership availability.
- **Generic MCP.** The generic path no longer asks "Does it need a key?"
first. A credential challenge from the server shows the key field.
- **Permissions tab.** Each action row shows its risk level. Each group
has a "Set all" control. The control sends one change for the whole
group. Before, each row's save started from the same render, so the
saves overwrote each other. The Zapier/Arcade/Composio/Executor setup
screen had the same defect.
- **OAuth callback interstitial.** A cross-site browser navigation to
`/api/tools/oauth/callback` gets a small same-origin "Finishing your
connection…" page. That page repeats the request, and the repeat does
the code exchange. Railway's consent page replaces itself after about
two seconds, and the code exchange plus tool discovery takes longer than
that. The interstitial uses only a meta refresh, because the OAuth code
is single-use. Requests without `Sec-Fetch-Site: cross-site` take the
old path.
- **Linear registers through its MCP server.** Linear pins the console
endpoints at `linear.app`. Pinned endpoints now replace discovery only
when the method cannot register, or when the connection has an
operator-entered client. So a Linear connection now finds the
registration endpoint at `mcp.linear.app`.
- **Own-OAuth-app recovery stays on the one-click screen.** When the
method also accepts a customer-owned client, the client fields are in
the Advanced panel. The panel opens after a failed sign-in. "Try again"
resumes the draft with the operator's client.
- **E2E specs** follow the one-screen flow. The Access-step clicks are
removed, the specs open **Change** before they pick agents, and they
expect GitHub's **Add key** verb.
- **Default permissions do not change.** New connections still allow
every action. The user can set actions to Ask first or Off on the
Permissions tab.

## Verification

- `cd ui && npx vitest run src/pages/apps src/features/connections
--no-file-parallelism`
- `cd packages/shared && npx vitest run src/app-definitions.test.ts
src/connection-setup-state.test.ts`
- `cd server && npx vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts
src/__tests__/remote-mcp-connectors.test.ts`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- New tests:
- `PermissionsPanel.group.test.tsx` checks that "Set all" sends one
change for the whole group. It fails on the old code.
  - `action-permissions.test.ts` checks the group update.
  - `connection-setup-state.test.ts` checks the four setup states.
- A server test checks that a cross-site callback gets the interstitial
and does not use the OAuth state, and that the same-origin repeat
completes the connection.
- Manual check on a hosted staging deployment. GitHub, Google Drive,
Composio, Notion, PostHog and Railway each connected from one screen and
returned to the Permissions tab. On Railway, "Set all" changed all 65
write actions, and the change remained after a reload.
- Visual changes: snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated. See
the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot
verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)".

## Risks

- **Fewer confirmation clicks.** Organization-wide access is the
default, and the user does not confirm it on a separate step. This was
already the preselected answer. The flow shows the default before the
user clicks and again after the connection.
- **Google write scope.** Google apps now request the write-capable
scope by default. A narrower scope needs a new sign-in.
- **Dynamic registration from live metadata.** A provider can advertise
registration and then reject a redirect URI. Asana rejects hosted
callbacks, for example. In that case registration fails, and the
customer-owned client path remains available for recovery.
- **Callback interstitial.** The OAuth callback adds one same-origin
step for cross-site browser navigations. Browsers without `Sec-Fetch-*`
headers use the old direct path.
- Chat and bot connectors (Discord, Telegram, Microsoft Teams, iMessage)
do not change.

DottaandPaperclip 8781f06a87 feat(connections): enable MCP aggregators by default (#13964)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents for work.
> - Connections let those agents use external services with explicit
access rules.
> - Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect, and Executor already have setup
and runtime support.
> - Their experimental switch still blocks discovery and setup by
default.
> - This pull request removes those gates and the Settings toggle.
> - Users can connect these providers without enabling an experiment.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #13755. Refs #13941.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**
Apps browsing, inline setup, and agent connection search for the four
MCP aggregators.

**Current behavior**
An instance must enable the MCP aggregators experiment before users or
agents can start setup.

**Proposed behavior**
All four providers are available by default on local and managed
instances. Old stored and managed values still parse but cannot disable
them.

## What Changed

- Remove the aggregator gates from Apps, inline setup, server setup, and
agent search.
- Remove the Settings toggle and its UI hook.
- Retain the old setting key only for upgrade compatibility. Normalize
it to true and ignore managed overrides, as Apps already does.
- Replace opt-in fixtures with default-on coverage. Test old false
values, all four setup flows, provider choice, and the removed toggle.
- Update current connector guidance and remove the opt-in from the
runner acceptance fixture.

## Verification

- 306 focused tests passed across eight files: shared remote MCP
contracts; server remote MCP lifecycle, aggregator fallback, settings
normalization, and managed overlay; UI Apps browsing, setup, and
experimental settings.
- Server and UI TypeScript checks passed.
- UI token gates and `git diff --check` passed.
- The full local suite was not run, per the maintainer's instruction.
All 54 CI checks passed; two checks were skipped. One unrelated
workspace-preview readiness timeout passed on one failed-shard retry.
- The setup fixtures use simulated MCP responses. This change does not
claim new live provider acceptance.

## Risks

- Existing instances now show all four providers, even if the old flag
was false. This is intentional.
- External provider choice, credentials, company isolation, agent
grants, and tool policies still apply. Showing a connector does not
authorize an external account.
- No data migration is required. The compatibility key keeps old managed
configuration documents valid.
- Historical Zapier live acceptance remains incomplete in the existing
evidence report. The maintainer explicitly requested the default-on
rollout for all four existing providers; the report records that scoped
exception.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) through Codex, with reasoning, repository
tools, and test execution. The context window size is not exposed in
this session.

DottaandPaperclip 18dac1e1ef feat(connections): add experimental memory providers and remote MCP access (#13942)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - Connections give agents governed access to external tools.
> - Agents need durable memory across tasks and execution environments.
> - Mem0, Zep, Supermemory, Cognee, and Honcho provide hosted memory
tools.
> - This pull request adds their setup flows behind an experimental
toggle.
> - It also delivers assigned MCP tools through the native remote Codex
runner.
> - Operators can connect a provider once and use the same governed
tools locally or in Daytona.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

The Apps catalog lacks a complete set of memory providers. Remote native
Codex agents also need access to assigned managed MCP tools without
receiving provider credentials.

**Proposed solution**

Add five memory connectors behind the disabled-by-default Experimental
memory connectors setting. Use the existing connection setup and
permissions UI. Default their tools to Allowed. Preserve company
boundaries, operator permission changes, provider scopes, and audit
attribution.

**Alternatives considered**

Direct provider credentials in each sandbox would duplicate setup and
bypass the managed gateway. The remote runner instead uses its existing
protocol channel to call the gateway on the server.

**Roadmap alignment**

This maintainer-requested experiment supports the Memory / Knowledge and
Connected Apps roadmap areas. It adds provider connections without
introducing a separate memory UI. Related connector authoring
documentation is tracked in #13692; no duplicate memory-provider
implementation was found.

## What Changed

- Add provider definitions, official branding, and the experimental
setting for all five providers.
- Use OAuth for Zep and Supermemory, API credentials for Mem0 and
Honcho, and a bundled Cloud API bridge for Cognee with no runtime
downloads or subprocesses.
- Default memory tools to Allowed and classify destructive actions
explicitly.
- Fix personal remote credential resolution and propagate provider tool
errors.
- Relay assigned managed MCP tools to remote native Codex through the
runner protocol. Recheck current authority for each call and rotate
stale tool contracts.
- Add 21 Storybook states and complete OAuth walkthrough fixtures.
- Document provider research, sanitized tool inventory, and live local
and Daytona proof.

## Verification

- Passed workspace typecheck: `pnpm -r typecheck`.
- Passed production build: `pnpm build`.
- Full local `pnpm test:run`: 13,273 passed, with failures from
process/readiness timeouts under parallel load. Reran all 16 affected
suites with one worker: 456 passed, leaving two macOS `/var` versus
`/private/var` path assertions. Both passed with `TMPDIR=/private/tmp`.
No test failures remain unverified. Latest-head remote CI passes all 54
checks (two optional Storybook jobs skipped). Greptile is 5/5 with no
unresolved findings.
- Latest Cognee gateway regression: 71 passed, including public
deployment without a runtime host and immediate recovery after a
provider error. Bundled bridge tests: 25 passed.
- Browser setup and real agent tasks exercised all five providers. Mem0,
Cognee, Zep, and Honcho have successful store/retrieve proof.
- Supermemory now has scoped read/write consent. Local storage and real
Daytona write, document read, and semantic recall passed; indexing
completion was verified before claiming success.
- All five providers were exercised through a real Daytona sandbox and
its native runner MCP relay. Provider credentials remained on the
server. The final bundled Cognee bridge also passed a fresh Daytona
store/recall run. All disposable sandboxes were removed and verified
absent after testing.
- Storybook is rebuilt and contains the experimental toggle, catalog,
setup, permissions, and error states. The Zep and Supermemory access
steps advance correctly.

## Risks

- Provider OAuth scopes and plan limits remain independent of Paperclip
tool permissions. An Allowed tool can still be rejected by the provider.
- Providers can queue memory indexing; save acceptance does not prove
that semantic recall is ready.
- Remote tool contracts must stay synchronized with current connection
authority. Regression tests cover revocation and stale contracts.
- This change has no database migration. Existing connections remain
usable when the experimental catalog toggle is disabled.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, repository
edits, code execution, and browser automation. The exact context window
size is not exposed in this session. Live acceptance agents used
`gpt-5.6-sol`.

DottaandPaperclip b82661b561 refactor(connections): retire the legacy Composio broker (#13758)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents and their access to external tools.
> - Connectors expose these tools through a governed MCP gateway.
> - PR #13755 added a direct Composio MCP connection behind the
experimental MCP aggregators flag.
> - The old project API-key broker still created toolkit child
connections and showed a separate Services tab.
> - Keeping both paths leaves obsolete setup and session code in the
product.
> - This change removes the broker and preserves direct MCP setup,
credentials, permissions, and execution.
> - Saved legacy records fail closed and remain available for explicit
removal.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Related: #13755. This retirement supersedes the legacy-path fixes
proposed in #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906. It does not close those
PRs.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Composio connector setup, management, and runtime dispatch.

**Current behavior**

Composio offers both direct MCP and a project API-key broker. The broker
mints sessions and creates one child connection per toolkit.

**Proposed behavior**

Offer only direct MCP. Remove the toolkit Services UI, REST routes, API
client, and session broker. Block saved legacy parent and child records
from discovery, execution, health checks, reconnect, and OAuth. Preserve
their records and credentials until the operator removes each
connection.

**Reason and benefit**

The direct MCP connector becomes the single supported Composio workflow.
Provider accounts remain managed in Composio.

## What Changed

- Remove the API-key catalog method and its generated-source definition.
- Delete Composio broker clients, session creation, account
synchronization, child lifecycle, and toolkit routes.
- Remove the Services tab, service rows, child provenance, and
cascade-removal controls. Keep Vercel provenance intact.
- Retain a shared retirement guard for stored legacy records. Show
Retired status and replacement/removal guidance in the connection list
and details; hide obsolete runtime controls.
- Preserve the experimental MCP aggregators flag and direct MCP
infrastructure.
- Replace broker fixtures with retirement tests and extend direct
Composio catalog/reconnect coverage.

## Verification

- Focused shared, server, and UI tests passed with one worker. Server
retirement tests use a name filter; no full local test suite was run, as
requested.
- Server and UI TypeScript checks passed.
- Token gates and UI build passed.
- Real browser: opened the saved Composio connection, refreshed all 11
tools, and ran the provider's read-only GitHub account-list operation
through the standard Test dialog as an agent. The provider returned
success using the existing OAuth credentials.
- See `doc/connections/COMPOSIO-BROKER-RETIREMENT.md` for scope and live
evidence.
- Storybook build passed. A fresh real agent used
`COMPOSIO_SEARCH_TOOLS` and `COMPOSIO_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` to return the
actual Paperclip DeepWiki hierarchy: one success, zero errors. Gateway
audit records confirm both calls succeeded.
- Browser retirement check: a credential-free legacy fixture showed the
guidance, opened the direct MCP replacement flow, and was removed
through the standard confirmation.
- Focused regressions for the experimental settings copy and exact
OpenAPI route coverage passed. All latest-head CI checks passed (54
successful, two intentionally skipped); Greptile scored 5/5 with no
unresolved review threads. The PR has no merge conflicts.

## Risks

This intentionally breaks the old Composio project API-key and
child-connection workflow. Existing legacy records cannot run, even if
their stored status is active. Operators must create a new direct MCP
connection and choose access rules; credentials and grants are not
migrated. Remove each old record separately to delete its credentials.
No schema migration or data deletion runs automatically. Direct MCP
connections keep their existing grants and secrets.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, code execution, and browser
tools. The exact runtime variant and context-window size are not exposed
in this session.

DottaandPaperclip e8c8ba3c19 feat(apps): add experimental MCP aggregator connectors (#13755)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its tool gateway applies company access rules and approval controls
to connected apps.
> - MCP aggregators expose many apps through one provider endpoint.
> - Each aggregator needs its own credential, catalog, grants, and
lifecycle in Paperclip.
> - This pull request adds independent Zapier, Arcade, Composio Connect,
and Executor setup with a common Access → Connect layout.
> - A default-off MCP aggregators flag lets operators opt in while we
complete provider acceptance tests.
> - Agents use the normal Paperclip permissions, Test screen, and
gateway after setup.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Apps, connection setup, shared contracts, and the remote MCP gateway.

**Problem or motivation**

Aggregator endpoints need clear provider setup and correct MCP sessions.
Generic setup does not explain each provider's authentication or broad
execution tools. Provider approval must preserve the original execution
instead of replaying a write.

**Proposed solution**

Add four separate connectors behind Settings → Experimental → MCP
aggregators. Start with human and agent access, then connect the
endpoint and read its tools. Enable tools by default. Use the existing
Permissions and Test screens after setup. Keep legacy Composio API-key
and child connections intact.

**Alternatives considered**

A shared connection for all providers would mix credentials and access
rules. Separate provider-specific permission and test screens would
duplicate existing controls. Vercel Connect is outside this change.

**Roadmap alignment**

Extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps capability and the
Connected Apps roadmap area. This work was requested and reviewed by the
maintainer.

Related work: #11894, #12630, #12632, #12634, and #12906 concern the
legacy Composio broker. #13102 also covers remote MCP pagination. This
change preserves the broker path and adds initialized sessions, response
matching, and provider resume handling alongside pagination.

## What Changed

- Add branded setup and interactive Storybooks for Zapier, Arcade,
Composio Connect, and Executor. Use the existing access controls and
normal action tests. Do not request a connection name or action choices
during setup.
- Add the default-off `enableMcpAggregators` flag to settings, managed
feature metadata, the catalog, and setup guards. Hidden connections keep
running. Legacy Composio connections remain unchanged.
- Reuse the vault, grants, policy, and catalog models. Support OAuth
discovery, bearer tokens, custom headers, and credential-bearing URLs.
Add no database tables or migrations.
- Initialize and retain Streamable HTTP sessions by connection and
effective credentials. Read paginated catalogs and match streaming
responses to request IDs.
- Classify unfamiliar aggregator tools as writes despite upstream
read-only hints; only exact reviewed read capabilities enter the
read-only allowlist. Legacy Composio child behavior is preserved.
- Preserve provider authorization links and execution IDs. Support
Executor approve/resume, decline, and cancel without automatic replay of
uncertain writes.
- Preserve Off and Ask first choices during refresh and reconnect. Allow
new tools and retire removed tools. Keep agent access updates atomic and
preserve an empty agent selection.
- Document connector UX rules, provider branding sources, and live
acceptance results.
- Stabilize the existing Sentry release fixture after its repeated CI
failure by reusing one module mock; production Sentry behavior is
unchanged.

## Verification

- Final head `d11781970`: [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35633534900)
passed, including broad typecheck, test shards, build, and E2E. All 54
checks pass; 2 optional checks are skipped. Greptile is 5/5, Security
Scan passes, and all review threads are resolved.

- Passed 27 focused connector Vitest checks and 18 connector-only
Storybook browser checks before the flag change. All 85 stories rendered
at desktop and narrow widths.
- Passed 5 connector lifecycle/server checks and 7 selected flag checks
after adding the flag. The latter cover settings, managed defaults,
cached catalog visibility, and all four setup routes.
- Review fixes passed 13 risk/handoff/lifecycle checks, dedicated
session-expiration and transport regressions, 13 selected
connector/gateway CI cases, and 10 selected setup/reconnect UI cases. A
real Composio connection-list call also succeeded through the refreshed
UI on `9ab115f71`.
- UI and server TypeScript checks passed. UI build, Storybook build,
token gates, and diff whitespace checks passed during implementation.
- Real browser and real Paperclip agent tests passed for Arcade,
Composio, and Executor. Tested action permissions, denied agent access,
reconnect, disconnect, and isolation. Tested Arcade catalog
additions/removal and Executor provider approve/resume, decline, and
cancel.
- Zapier live acceptance is incomplete. Its dedicated provider server is
configured, but its credential-copy dialog returned an empty clipboard
through browser automation. No live Zapier action is claimed.
- The three isolated Sentry release cases pass after the CI fixture fix.
- Local verification is deliberately narrow at the maintainer's request.
The full local suite, recursive typecheck, and repository-wide build
were not run. CI provides the broader checks.

## Risks

- Shared MCP transport changes affect other remote MCP servers. Protocol
fixtures cover initialized sessions, streaming response matching,
pagination, and isolation.
- Broad execution tools remain broad permissions. The provider governs
actions inside those tools.
- Provider handoff links are retained briefly in memory. After a server
restart, a one-time link may require reopening the provider dashboard.
Paperclip does not replay the original call.
- Zapier remains unproven live. Custom-header imports and self-hosted
endpoints have fixture coverage rather than a separate live account for
every variant.
- Turning the experimental flag off hides setup; it does not revoke
existing credentials or stop existing connections.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, shell
execution, and browser automation. The exact runtime model ID and
context-window size are not exposed in this session. A separate
Anthropic-backed Paperclip agent performed live gateway acceptance
tasks.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 6fe8e30625 feat(apps): add Railway connection and governed deployment tools (#13415)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps gives agents governed access to external resources.
> - Operators need to inspect Railway services, read logs, deploy code,
and run container commands.
> - Railway offers hosted MCP with OAuth, but broad remote actions hide
their internal operations.
> - This PR adds a branded connection and fixed direct operations
through the existing gateway.
> - Separate SSH keys enable container commands under the same grants
and policies.
> - Operators can require approval for an action and inspect the
resulting audit record.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Apps catalog, connection setup, gateway execution, and connection
documentation.

**Problem or motivation**

Agents need Railway access through Paperclip. Operators need to grant
and revoke that access, inspect available actions, and govern deployment
and container operations without giving agents provider credentials.

**Proposed solution**

Reuse hosted MCP OAuth, vault storage, catalog discovery, grants, and
the gateway. Probe the actual credential before enabling fixed GraphQL
operations. Use a dedicated grant-owned SSH key for bounded container
commands.

**Alternatives considered**

A catalog entry alone cannot execute the missing operations. The hosted
general agent has opaque internal effects. An unrestricted CLI runtime
can bypass action policy and inherit ambient credentials.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps path and the Connected
Apps direction in ROADMAP.md. It does not add a plugin or parallel
connection service.

Related PRs #311, #939, and #7861 concern hosting Paperclip on Railway.
They do not add this outbound Apps connection. The separate shared
agent-picker fix is #13414 and is not included here.

## What Changed

- Add the generated Railway catalog entry, official marks, provenance,
and OAuth setup guidance.
- Add fixed service/deployment status, bounded logs, and
redeploy/restart/rollback tools. Block source deployment until the
provider can atomically bind the approved repository and commit.
- Verify API access with an explicit workspace before exposing direct
tools.
- Add grant-owned SSH key setup and a bounded runner with host
verification, target checks, isolated state, and cleanup.
- Block the opaque hosted railway-agent and accept-deploy actions.
Preserve normal Allowed defaults and Ask-first policies for other
actions.
- Quarantine new or changed Railway schemas after initial discovery,
including reconnect.
- Add provider, lifecycle, gateway, SSH, UI, and browser fixtures.
Document setup, limitations, and the release checklist.

## Verification

- Security follow-up: removed the unsafe source-deployment mutation.
Direct calls and old active catalog entries are denied before any
upstream request, including normalized aliases. Refresh marks retired
entries disabled. All 386 focused Railway, catalog and gateway tests
passed, and server TypeScript checking passed. Full [GitHub
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35139421144)
passed on d86530ab9, including typecheck, build, all tests, runner
checks, and browser tests. Superagent passed and confirmed the P2 fix.
Greptile reviewed the same commit at 5/5 with no findings.

- CI follow-up: fixed the missing Railway SSH operation in the OpenAPI
document, including its request schema, operator-only authentication,
and error responses. The failure reproduced locally before the fix; all
403 selected API, Railway, catalog, and artwork tests passed after it.
Synced current master and resolved the catalog/artwork conflicts.

- After rebase: 440 focused provider, lifecycle, gateway, catalog, and
container-panel tests passed. AppDetail and AppsConnect passed another
196 tests.
- Full typecheck, build, token gates, and the gallery browser check
passed after rebase.
- During implementation, full build and the gallery browser check
passed. Shared generic-MCP fixtures covered OAuth callback/state/issuer
binding and failure paths.
- Local live consent and tools/list succeeded. There were 44 active
hosted actions and two blocked actions. A workspace-bound API probe and
direct project/service/environment reads succeeded. The inspected
project had no deployed services. No provider mutation ran.
- Full GitHub CI passed on commit 303340f19, including all
server/workspace test groups, typecheck, build, runtime verification,
release dry run, and browser tests. The original local full-run attempt
was incomplete; the complete automated suite is now verified in CI.

Manual review: connect Railway, review the actual actions, install for
an agent, and run a resource read through the gateway. Choose Ask first
before testing a deployment mutation. Configure a dedicated key only
when container access is needed.

**Release qualification is still open.** Live agent gateway reads/logs,
rejected and approved deployment calls, refresh/revoke, public HTTPS
consent, and SSH enrollment/commands/cleanup need an authorized
disposable service. The passing API diagnostic does not replace those
tests. See doc/connections/RAILWAY.md and RAILWAY-REVIEW.md.

## Risks

Overall risk is medium. New runtime behavior is gated to Railway
connections, but the PR changes shared catalog, credential lifecycle,
and gateway code. A regression in those paths can affect other Apps
connections. The highest-impact operations are Railway deployments and
container commands.

- Provider consent can authorize an entire workspace. Catalog labels are
not local resource allowlists. Direct tools check target membership, and
provider permissions still apply.
- Shell commands have broad internal authority. Action policy cannot
approve each internal shell step. Timeouts close the local connection
but cannot guarantee remote child-process termination.
- Log and command output may contain application secrets that pattern
redaction cannot recognize.
- Source deployment is unavailable until the provider supports atomic
repository/commit binding. Existing deployments can still be redeployed,
restarted or rolled back.
- No database migration is required. Rollback can remove promotion and
direct dispatch while preserving connection data and the generic MCP
path.
- Live Railway qualification must still pass before release acceptance.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution and browser testing.
An independent read-only security agent reviewed the local
implementation. The exact serving model ID and context window were not
exposed in this session.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip c0fda8fac5 fix(apps): restore action test picker scrolling and agent eligibility (#13414)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps action tests let operators use an agent's permissions.
> - The agent picker must scroll inside the test dialog.
> - Its body portal sits outside the dialog's scroll boundary and blocks
wheel input.
> - Admin permission bypasses also skip agent lifecycle checks.
> - This PR fixes scrolling and rejects agents that cannot receive
assignments.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The Act as picker does not scroll with the mouse wheel inside an action
test dialog. Admins can also see terminated agents.

**Expected behavior**

The list scrolls normally. Terminated and pending-approval agents are
absent. Direct requests cannot test an action as one of those agents.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Create enough agents to overflow the list. Terminate one agent.
2. Open a connected app's Permissions tab. Click Test on an action.
3. Open Act as and use the mouse wheel over the list.
4. Check whether the terminated agent appears as an admin.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced on master at f2c5e54dc. Rebased onto d351e08de.

**Deployment mode**

Local dev, built from source. This is a shared Apps bug and does not
require Railway credentials.

Related search result: #9918 added search to a separate secrets picker.
It does not cover this action test dialog. No duplicate action-test
picker PR was found.

## What Changed

- Keep the action tester's agent popover inside its dialog's scroll
boundary.
- Check company membership and the shared agent lifecycle policy before
assignment permission bypasses.
- Reject terminated and pending-approval agents in lists, previews, and
test calls.
- Reuse company-scoped rows during listing to avoid extra per-agent
queries.
- Add route tests for both admin modes and a browser wheel-scroll
regression.

## Verification

- 335 focused tool-access and TestPanel tests passed after rebase. After
the review cleanup, both admin regressions and writable-agent selection
passed again (3 tests).
- The browser regression failed before the fix because wheel input left
scrollTop at zero. It passed after the fix, including search and
selection. It executes no provider tools.
- Full typecheck, build, and token gates passed during implementation.
Token gates passed again after rebase.
- The full test run reported a failure in the GitHub installation
recovery chat test. That test passed in isolation. The full run was
stopped after the failure, so later groups were not completed.

Manual check: open an action's Test dialog, open Act as, scroll, search,
and select an agent. Terminated agents must be absent.

## Risks

The portal change affects only the picker inside the action test dialog.
The browser test covers scrolling and selection. Paused agents remain
eligible under existing assignment rules. There is no migration or
provider policy change.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution and browser testing.
The exact serving model ID and context window were not exposed in this
session.

DottaandPaperclip 8f40b4ad4b fix(connections): repair and simplify Google Workspace setup (#13289)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - App connections give agents controlled access to external services.
> - Managed Google Workspace methods depend on profiles enabled for each
Paperclip instance.
> - The catalog used those profiles, but connection creation used static
availability and rejected enabled connections.
> - Switching capabilities also reset personal ownership to company-wide
ownership.
> - This PR uses the same availability rules for catalog and setup, and
preserves supported ownership choices.
> - Paperclip is the default Google authentication method. A small link
opens custom OAuth settings when needed.
> - Local and cloud instances can start the selected Workspace
connection without broadening its audience.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A fresh enrolled instance showed managed Google Workspace apps as
available. The issue was first found with Gmail. Selecting Continue to
sign in returned HTTP 422 with “This app does not have an available
connection method.” Changing from Read & create drafts to Read only also
reset Just me to company-wide ownership.

**Expected behavior**

Start Google authorization for an enabled profile. Keep personal
ownership when the selected method supports it. Reject profiles that the
instance cannot use.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start a fresh source test-drive and enroll the instance with
Paperclip Cloud.
2. Open Apps and select Gmail.
3. Select Just me and choose the agents that can use the connection.
4. Continue to setup and select Read only.
5. Go back to inspect ownership, then continue to sign in.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced on master commit 250deab910.
The fix is rebased onto current master.

**Deployment mode**

Local source test-drive. Regression tests also cover authenticated cloud
mode, HTTPS callbacks, and instance credentials supplied through
environment variables.

Related PRs: #13098 preserves task context through enrollment and OAuth.
#12619 introduced the managed Google Workspace rollout. This PR fixes
availability validation and ownership changes in that setup flow.

## What Changed

- Share instance-specific managed-method filtering between catalog
discovery and connection creation.
- Keep stored managed methods recognizable during callback, refresh, and
revoke.
- Preserve credential ownership when switching to another method that
supports it.
- Replace the Google authentication radio cards with a small Use your
own Google OAuth app link. Reveal custom fields only when selected, with
a Use Paperclip instead link to return. Associate the toggle with its
labeled field region for screen readers.
- Test all 16 managed Google Workspace profiles in local and
authenticated cloud modes, including cloud environment credentials and
unavailable profiles.
- Test ownership across all nine Workspace app cards, including
capability changes, authentication changes, and enrollment return.
- Document the shared availability and ownership behavior.

## Verification

- All 135 setup tests pass after the UI change. The focused connector
and service suites also passed before this presentation-only change.
- The expanded Workspace matrix includes 32 local/cloud callback cases,
16 cloud environment-identity cases, 32 unavailable-profile cases, and
18 UI ownership cases.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass.
UI typecheck and token gates also pass on final commit `2071002d6`.
- Browser tests cover Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs, Drive, People,
Sheets, Slides, and Workspace Search in an isolated source test-drive.
- Each app reaches Google sign-in with its expected read-only scopes.
Personal ownership persists after capability or authentication changes.
Chat also resumes its saved setup with read-only access intact.
- Browser verification of the new layout: custom fields start hidden,
the small link reveals them, and keyboard activation of Use Paperclip
instead hides them. Personal ownership and read-only selection persist.
- Google consent was not granted. Live provider reads and a deployed
cloud instance remain unverified.
- The local repository-wide suite was stopped at the maintainer's
request. Full CI verification passed for final commit `2071002d6`: 31
successful checks, two optional Storybook checks skipped. This includes
repository tests, browser E2E, typecheck, build, and canary dry run.
Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5 with no outstanding findings.

## Risks

- The shared availability helper affects all managed connectors. It
filters methods by the instance's advertised profiles and does not
mutate the static catalog.
- Stored connections can resolve their managed method after availability
changes. The broker still enforces current access during authorization
and refresh.
- No database migration or provider scope change is included.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with reasoning, code editing, shell tools, and
browser automation. The session does not expose an exact runtime model
ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip bf753b997a fix(connections): keep task context through Cloud enrollment and OAuth (#13098)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets people manage agent work from tasks.
> - Agents can request app access in a task card.
> - Some apps first require Paperclip Cloud enrollment.
> - Enrollment could leave the task, and OAuth could lose the task
interaction ID.
> - This PR keeps enrollment in a separate window and retains the
interaction ID through OAuth.
> - The task can then recognize the connection and continue
automatically.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A first Gmail connection could leave the task dialog during Cloud
enrollment. Setup resumed on the Apps page. Gmail connected, but the
task card could remain pending because OAuth did not retain its
interaction ID.

**Expected behavior**

Keep the task open and preserve its access choices. Resolve the card
after the server verifies connection access. Continue the agent
automatically.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start a fresh source test-drive instance without Cloud enrollment.
2. Ask an agent to read Gmail.
3. Open Connect on the task card.
4. Complete Cloud enrollment and Gmail authorization.
5. Check whether the task card updates without selecting the connection
again.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced on 35fdc0c66b. This branch
applies the fix to current master.

**Deployment mode**

Source test-drive in local-trusted mode. The shared setup code also
serves authenticated instances; live authenticated acceptance was not
performed.

Related PRs: #13058 introduced task connections. #12943 repaired expired
enrollment links. #12906 concerns Composio service matching and does not
fix this OAuth handoff.

## What Changed

- Open task enrollment in a reserved window, with a new-tab fallback.
- Refresh server enrollment status and the provider catalog while
keeping the task dialog and access choices.
- Return the enrollment callback to the verified task when available.
- Retain the interaction ID when OAuth resumes from the page host.
- Clear the server capability cache after enrollment and reject stale
cache writes.
- Close reserved popups on enrollment errors and invalid authorization
URLs.
- Add callback and setup regression tests, including blocked popups.
Update connection-intent documentation.

## Verification

- All 176 focused connector, enrollment, callback, OAuth, and setup
tests pass.
- Greptile gives commit `e58da6662` a 5/5 score. Both review threads are
resolved.
- `pnpm check:token-gates`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm -r typecheck` pass.
- All CI checks pass for `e58da6662`, including the full test matrix,
browser tests, Runner verification, release registry, and canary dry
run.
- The serial local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the complete CI
test matrix passed. It is not counted as a full local pass.
- Live browser test: fresh instance, native Codex runner, Gmail
read-only access, and a real Google account.
- Enrollment preserved the task dialog. The card changed to connected
and the agent called Gmail search and message-read tools without another
message or Run click.
- The connected card persisted after refresh. Google reused existing
consent during this attempt.
- The runner displayed only its completion summary. Full answer delivery
is a separate issue and is outside this PR.

## Risks

- Browsers can block or isolate authorization windows. The new-tab
fallback remains available, and the parent checks server state.
- Enrollment completion is only a prerequisite. It does not grant access
or resolve the task card by itself.
- No database migration, runner lifecycle change, or recovery UI is
included.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code editing, shell tools, and browser
automation. The session does not expose an exact runtime model ID or
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 82f662656a fix(runner): restore legacy Git access and independent networking (#13094)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip runs agents for people with different GitHub accounts.
> - Managed operations must use the intended person's eligible
connection.
> - A failed duplicate connection must not hide a healthy grant for the
same account.
> - Legacy hosts also need their existing Git configuration when managed
access is not configured.
> - Runner networking and local Git operations must not depend on GitHub
broker availability.
> - This pull request separates those policies and improves failure
diagnostics.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?** New runs always cleared host Git credentials and
installed managed launchers. Network permission depended on GitHub
environment variables. A launcher failure could stop even local `git
status`. A newer unhealthy duplicate could take precedence over a
healthy connection, and generic health errors were shown as reconnect
requirements.

**Expected behavior:** Use a healthy eligible managed connection for the
intended account. Preserve host authentication only for unconfigured
standard-trust local or SSH execution. Permit local Git during broker
failures and keep network permission independent of GitHub credentials.

**Steps to reproduce:** Configure healthy and unhealthy grants for one
GitHub account, dispatch an agent, and execute Git commands. Separately
run an unconfigured legacy host with existing GitHub CLI authentication.
Stop the broker and run local `git status`.

**Paperclip version or commit:** Master at 668110469. **Deployment
mode:** Self-hosted. **Installation method:** Git checkout. **Agent
adapters involved:** Native Codex runner and shared adapter execution
setup. **Database mode:** Existing instance database; no migration.
**Access context:** Responsible person's managed grant, or explicitly
unconfigured legacy host. **Node.js version:** 26.4.0 locally.
**Operating system:** macOS development and Linux execution hosts.

**Relevant logs or output:** Previously `GitHub credential context
unavailable` hid configuration, transport, and capability errors. New
diagnostics identify these categories without credential values.

**Additional context:** Refs #13005 and #13022. Dependency provisioning
is addressed separately in #13093.

## What Changed

- Prefer healthy eligible grants and retry credential acquisition once
for the same principal and account before starting an operation.
- Preserve host Git configuration only when managed access is
unconfigured on a standard-trust local or SSH target.
- Project authentication mode and validated Git metadata into native
runner boundaries; refresh resumed provider settings when modes change.
- Enable network access through an explicit standard-trust controller
decision, independently of GitHub. Omitted or restricted decisions stay
disabled; replace warm providers when that decision changes.
- Run local Git with cleared credentials when the managed broker fails,
with specific redacted diagnostics.
- Retry access-refresh conflicts once without treating concurrency as
expired authorization.
- Show retry instead of reconnect for transient GitHub health failures.
Add optional authorization and run-diagnostic fields without a database
migration.

## Verification

- All latest-head CI gates are green, including typecheck, general and
serialized suites, browser tests, canary, native runner verification,
and build. Greptile is 5/5 with no remaining findings; the security scan
passed.
- Full recursive typecheck and build passed. UI token gates passed.
- Full general server run: 7,110 passed, one transient socket hangup;
that file passed on retry. All remaining workspace groups passed,
including 5,552 UI and 478 CLI tests. The complete serialized rerun
passed all 144 suites / 2,179 tests after the initial isolated timeout
passed on retry.
- 195 final launcher and native session tests passed, including
host/managed transitions, local/remote warm network-policy changes,
broker rotation, and attempts to override validated controller
filesystem roots.
- GitHub gateway fallback, duplicate connection selection, refresh
conflicts, per-user reauthorization, and native transport/security
suites passed.
- Additional live native fixtures passed SSH public-key authentication
and a Git credential helper in fresh and resumed host-mode sessions. An
unwritable managed configuration directory preserved local Git (exit 0)
while GitHub CLI failed with `configuration_directory_unavailable` (exit
4). The temporary SSH listener and keys were removed.
- Applicable Rust suites passed except two timing failures under load;
each failed case passed in isolation. The final environment contract
test passed.
- Linux native runner acceptance passed in both managed and legacy host
modes: DNS, HTTPS, npm package download, fresh-worktree Git status,
authenticated GitHub user lookup, repository read, and a new run
continuing the same provider conversation. Managed broker outage
preserved local Git and rejected authenticated access without host
fallback.
- Matching Linux server/runner artifacts and the separate provisioning
repair are deployed to the development instance. A fresh UI-dispatched
task and a new run after a server restart both passed all six shell
checks through the live controller and credential broker. Both runs
selected the expected healthy connection/grant and retained the same
provider conversation. Neither connection was repaired or reconnected.

The sandbox roots are assigned from the validated execution-target probe
**after** ordinary bindings are merged. Regression coverage supplies
forged roots and verifies they cannot override the controller paths.
Networking is enabled only for an explicit
`PAPERCLIP_RUNNER_NETWORK_ACCESS=enabled` controller decision; omitted
values remain disabled.

## Risks

Unconfigured standard-trust local and SSH runs regain access to host Git
authentication resources. Managed, sandbox, plugin, and low-trust runs
do not gain this fallback. Revoked managed access never falls back to
another account. Deploy server and runner artifacts together;
already-started operations retain their captured identity. An
unauthenticated command can still fail when it requires GitHub access.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with code editing, shell execution, tests,
and browser inspection. The exact model variant and context-window size
are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip e095b84dab feat(connections): connect services from native task feeds (#13058)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents use connections to reach external services.
> - A fresh native task can have no service tools installed.
> - The agent needs a way to discover services and ask the responsible
person for access.
> - This pull request brings the existing connection-intent flow into
native task execution.
> - The person can connect from the task, and the agent can continue
with updated tools.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Native runner tool authority, connection intents, task interactions, and
shared connection setup.

**Problem or motivation**

A task that needs an unconnected service cannot finish its work. Leaving
the task to configure access also loses context. A resolved request must
survive a restart and resume the correct agent once.

**Proposed solution**

Expose connection discovery and access requests as server-owned native
tools. Render a durable task card and use the shared setup dialog.
Persist outcome delivery and start a fresh provider session after access
is ready.

**Alternatives considered**

Sending the person to the Connections page adds navigation and does not
solve continuation. Polling for authorization consumes runs and can
create duplicate requests.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing connection-intent runtime and setup
experience. It reuses the shared access model and the native runner.

Related: #12345, #12347. The service-slug fix in #12906 is related but
separate. Companion evaluation PR:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/21.

## What Changed

- Expose `connections_search` and `connection_request` with server-bound
company, task, agent, and responsible user. Preserve the legacy entry
points.
- Discover catalog services and authorized custom connections. Check
installation, identity, health, and executable permissions before
reporting ready.
- Keep pending cards through ordinary messages. Reuse requests and
retire stale ownership. Put Connect at the right of Not now.
- Reuse the shared setup flow in a task dialog. Keep access additive and
default to the requesting agent. Recover from cancelled or blocked OAuth
windows with a new-tab fallback.
- Persist outcome delivery with an idempotent wake key. Resume in a
fresh session and recheck ownership before dispatch.
- Add native browser fixtures, offline Storybook states, server
contracts, and evaluation fixtures. Update guidance and documentation.

## Verification

- `pnpm build`: passed after replaying the change on current master.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook`: passed.
- New continuation-policy regression cases: 16 passed.
- Docker-backed PostgreSQL regressions passed for requester-only OAuth
access, assignment-only expiry, terminal expiry, and credential-free
setup metadata.
- Shared setup and task-card UI tests: 121 passed, including configured
MCP reconnect URL recovery and preserving user edits across refetch.
- Storybook browser checks: all 119 passed on the latest reconnect fix.
- `pnpm test:run`: 4,734 tests passed in the first server group, but
embedded PostgreSQL startup failures and resulting cleanup errors
prevented a complete local pass. All Linux CI lanes passed on the latest
reviewed commit. One external-object route test returned an unexplained
500 on the first run; it passed twice locally and the failed shard
passed on retry without code changes.
- Earlier feature-checkout evidence: three deterministic native browser
journeys passed, including restart delivery and an actual fixture tool
result. Legacy scripted coverage also passed. All 59 added stories were
inspected in light and dark themes.
- Live Notion testing recorded successful provider reads. The manual
test used a local-trusted instance. It does not prove
authenticated/cloud deployment or every provider journey.
- Native browser rerun reached the embedded PostgreSQL startup limit
before bootstrap, so the latest checkout’s full native browser journey
remains unverified. Both OAuth page/task regression cases passed against
isolated Docker-backed PostgreSQL 17. They verify no premature task
access, requester-only completion, additive retries, and reconnect
preservation.
- Applied both new migrations twice to isolated PostgreSQL 17. Foreign
keys remained intact, duplicate active delivery keys were rejected, and
failed delivery records did not block retries.

Reviewer path: start a fresh test drive, enable the native runner, use
an agent that can perform work directly, and ask it to summarize a
Notion page. Connect from the card, then verify the resumed provider
call and source-linked answer. The default test-drive CEO is instructed
to delegate, so it can introduce an unrelated hiring step.

## Risks

- Two additive migrations create durable deliveries and a partial unique
wake index. They are idempotent. The wake index can require a
maintenance window on large tables because migrations run in a
transaction.
- OAuth and continuation cross asynchronous boundaries. Tests cover
ownership changes, retries, additive access, and restart delivery; live
provider behavior still varies.
- The latest requester-scope fix has not yet been exercised through live
OAuth. GitHub, API-key, authenticated-user, and all recovery journeys
are not claimed as verified.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6-based Codex assisted with implementation, tests, and review
using tools and code execution. The runtime does not expose the exact
model version, context window, or reasoning setting. Live evaluation
used `gpt-5.6-luna`; manual native testing used `gpt-5.6-sol`.

DottaandPaperclip 0ffc091473 feat(connections): add durable GitHub identities and webhooks (#12843)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents need source control access for repository work
> - A shared token cannot preserve the responsible person's identity or
an agent's dedicated identity
> - GitHub App tokens also need durable refresh, repository access
checks, and webhook delivery
> - Paperclip already has managed connections, encrypted grants, run
secret leases, and merge-confirmation behavior
> - This pull request extends those systems with GitHub identities
instead of adding a parallel credential system
> - The benefit is durable GitHub access with explicit identity,
repository, runtime, and webhook boundaries

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue describes this connection change. This
description follows the feature request template.

**Subsystem affected**

Connected Apps, connection grants, secret resolution, native Git runtime
setup, webhook processing, and the Apps UI.

**Problem or motivation**

Users need to connect GitHub once and let agents use the correct GitHub
identity. A run should use a dedicated agent account when one exists.
Otherwise, it should use the responsible person's account. The
connection must survive token expiry, repository access changes, and
temporary instance downtime.

**Proposed solution**

Add user-owned and agent-owned GitHub grants to the existing connection
model. Resolve one identity for MCP, Git, `gh`, health checks, and
webhook bindings. Store provider tokens in the existing encrypted secret
system. Refresh expiring token pairs under the existing lease and
compare-and-swap path. Register signed Cloud webhook bindings and
process normalized pull request and installation events through a
durable local inbox.

**Alternatives considered**

An organization-wide GitHub token would lose person and agent
attribution. Environment variables alone would bypass the managed
connection and grant model. A new GitHub-only credential store would
duplicate the existing secret and access systems. GitHub App
installation tokens and private-key custody remain outside this first
version.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change implements the Connected Apps direction. It also extends the
shipped MCP Tool Gateway, per-agent secret access, and
action-attribution systems. It does not add a repository catalog. The
open repository catalog work in
[#11234](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/11234) is related
and complementary.

## What Changed

- Added agent-owned connection grants and a per-agent credential policy
with company and subject constraints.
- Added a managed GitHub App method while keeping the personal access
token method as an advanced fallback.
- Added durable access-token and refresh-token handling with proactive
rotation and one automatic recovery after a provider `401`.
- Added GitHub identity and installation summaries without storing
repository-name lists.
- Added signed Cloud webhook binding, event lease, acknowledgement,
local idempotency, pull request merge processing, and installation
access handling.
- Added one identity resolver for MCP, native Git, `gh`, checkout,
health checks, and webhook bindings.
- Added a class-3 run projection for `GH_TOKEN`, `GITHUB_TOKEN`, a
`github.com`-only credential helper, SSH-to-HTTPS rewrite, and GitHub
noreply commit attribution.
- Added personal and dedicated-agent setup choices plus identity,
repository, continuity, and webhook status in the Apps UI.
- Added schema migrations, tests, and connection documentation.

## Verification

- The current head is fully green in GitHub CI, including build,
typecheck, all serialized/general server shards, all browser shards,
policy, canary dry run, review, and security checks.
- Live staging proof completed with a non-expiring GitHub App user
token, selected-repository installation, repository add/remove refresh,
managed MCP, native `gh`, HTTPS clone/push/delete, GitHub noreply commit
attribution, signed merged-PR webhook acceptance, durable
Cloud-to-instance delivery, and installation-access event processing.
Temporary branches and temporary repository access were removed
afterward.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passed before and after the rebase onto
`origin/master`.
- `pnpm build` passed.
- The focused connector suite passed 285 tests after the rebase.
- The full stable suite passed 5,790 tests and failed 22 tests across 8
general server files. The failures reproduced as shared-runner
environment issues. They included `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`, closed
database connections, and invalid high ephemeral ports. The focused
connection tests pass in isolation.

## Risks

- Migrations add agent grant subjects and a durable connection-event
inbox. Migration numbering and safety checks pass.
- A raw GitHub user token enters the agent process for Git and `gh`.
Per-tool Ask-first controls cannot limit those shell operations. The UI
warns users about this boundary.
- GitHub App user tokens can be non-expiring. Paperclip performs a
continuity check every 30 days, but provider revocation still requires a
reconnect.
- The webhook path accepts only signed and bounded payloads. It stores a
minimal normalized record and no raw provider payload.
- GitHub repository permissions remain authoritative. Removed access can
make a cached repository count temporarily stale, but runtime access
fails immediately.

execution, browser control, and multi-file repository editing. The
context window size was not provided.

DottaandPaperclip f449b05bc5 feat(apps): unify permissions and action testing (#12802)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the control plane for companies that use AI agents.
> - Apps give humans and agents controlled access to external services.
> - The existing app detail flow split permissions, tests, setup, and
activity across separate pages.
> - The split made access rules harder to understand and made reconnect
work hard to find.
> - New write actions also defaulted to Ask first, which did not match
the intended connection policy.
> - This pull request combines permission control and action testing,
removes the setup page, and moves connection activity into Audit.
> - The benefit is one clear place to configure, test, reconnect, and
review each app.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The installed app Permissions, Test, Setup, and Activity views.

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting. This change updates the React UI, shared app defaults,
server permission behavior, tests, smoke scripts, and connection
documentation.

**Current behavior**

App access and action testing use separate pages. The app detail view
also links to a setup page after installation. Connection activity uses
a separate tab. New write actions default to Ask first.

**Proposed behavior**

Permissions uses the connection access language from the initial flow.
It includes searchable Read and Write sections, a three-state permission
control, and a Test dialog for each action. Reconnect appears below a
Needs attention header on Permissions and Review. Old Setup and Test
links redirect to Permissions. Old Activity links redirect to the
filtered company Audit feed. New write actions default to Allowed.

**Reason and benefit**

A person can understand and test app access without moving between
several pages. Reconnect work stays visible where the person reviews the
connection. Audit events use one consistent feed and filter model. New
connections have the intended default policy.

**Breaking changes**

The Setup, Test, and app Activity tabs are removed. Existing deep links
redirect to their replacement pages. Existing saved action permissions
do not change. Only defaults for new write actions change.

**Additional context**

This builds on the managed app connection work in #12728. A search found
no duplicate open pull request or issue.

## What Changed

- Combined action testing with Permissions.
- Added searchable Read and Write action groups.
- Added Off, Ask first, and Allowed controls with tooltips.
- Added an action Test dialog with agent selection, arguments, and
formatted results.
- Removed the installed-app Setup and Activity tabs.
- Added reconnect guidance to Permissions and Review when a connection
needs attention.
- Routed connection activity into the company Audit feed and preserved
the Apps & tools filter in streamlined Audit.
- Moved connection removal to the Connectors-page management menu.
- Made new write actions default to Allowed across connection creation
paths.
- Updated regression tests, browser suites, smoke scripts, and
connection documentation.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts

- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/app-detail/TestPanel.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/audit/AuditHub.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/audit/AuditFeed.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/apps/AppDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/apps/Browse.test.tsx`
(96 tests passed)
- Targeted Playwright verification for connection removal, rename on
Permissions, inline action testing, and Smoke Lab Audit evidence (5
flows passed)
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,755 passing tests and 20 unrelated
macOS harness failures. The failures use `/tmp` versus `/private/tmp`,
invalid ports above 65535, and workspace fixtures outside this change.

## Risks

- Low migration risk. This change has no database migration.
- Old app-detail URLs depend on redirect compatibility.
- New connections grant write actions by default. Finalization remains
configure-authorized and audited, Ask first and Off remain available per
action, and existing connections keep their saved policy.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5`. The client does not expose the
context-window size. The model used reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and browser verification.

DottaandPaperclip 5f87090894 Make managed Cloud OAuth handoffs invisible (#12790)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Apps let people give agents governed access to external providers
> - Paperclip Cloud brokers shared provider authorization for managed
stacks
> - The managed flow sent the browser through a confirmation page after
the tenant had already prepared sign-in
> - A lost confirmation response could also show an expired-session
error before the provider page opened
> - This pull request adds an opaque handoff contract and one shared
tenant coordinator
> - The benefit is a direct and recoverable transition from Paperclip to
every Cloud-brokered provider

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A managed Paperclip Cloud connection opened the Cloud confirmation
route. A response-loss race could show an expired-session error while
the authorization still continued.

**Expected behavior**

The current Paperclip loading state must stay visible while the tenant
exchanges an opaque session. The browser must then open the provider
directly. Self-hosted and direct OAuth must keep their existing
behavior.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open Apps on a Paperclip Cloud stack.
2. Start a managed provider connection.
3. Select Continue to sign in.
4. Observe that the browser visits the Cloud confirmation route before
it reaches the provider.

**Paperclip version or commit**

`b872cd3d1b404bdaff70af493a2973ceb7e5d6ec`

**Deployment mode**

Paperclip Cloud hosted stack.

No related open issue or pull request was found in the repository
search.

## What Changed

- Add a backward-compatible opaque Cloud handoff to the shared OAuth
start contract.
- Validate the Cloud descriptor on the server and expose no
browser-selected endpoint.
- Exchange managed handoffs through one fixed same-origin route in every
Apps OAuth launcher.
- Keep dialog popups reserved before asynchronous work and retain the
tenant loading state.
- Add recent-login resume storage, bounded retry behavior, terminal
tenant errors, tests, and Storybook states.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- Focused connector and UI suites: 184 passed and 202 skipped.
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm build-storybook`
- The full local suite reached one unrelated macOS path-alias failure.
The untouched test expected `/var/...` and received the equivalent
`/private/var/...`. The same test reproduces in isolation.

## Risks

- A malformed managed descriptor now fails closed in Paperclip instead
of opening a URL.
- A legacy Cloud deployment can omit the descriptor. Paperclip then uses
the existing validated confirmation URL.
- Direct provider OAuth and self-hosted flows do not receive a handoff
and remain unchanged.
- Rollback is a normal revert of this commit because the contract is
optional and backward compatible.

DottaandPaperclip 8c3b8c432a Simplify app connections and enable managed Google access (#12728)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The Apps subsystem gives humans and agents governed access to
external tools.
> - The current connection flow hides Apps behind an experimental gate
and repeats setup text.
> - Google sharing choices and generic MCP permissions do not use one
consistent opening model.
> - Self-hosted installs also need a safe default origin for managed
OAuth without a manual config file.
> - This pull request makes Apps available, simplifies connection setup,
and applies one governed permissions model.
> - The benefit is a shorter connection flow that works on a clean
self-hosted install.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

This improves the Apps connection setup flow, managed Google connection
flow, generic MCP connection flow, navigation, and runtime origin
discovery.

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting. This changes `ui/`, `server/`, `packages/shared/`,
connector documentation, and browser tests.

**Current behavior**

Apps require an experimental switch. Setup pages repeat titles and
explanatory copy. Connection names require manual input. Google
credential sharing does not always offer both personal and organization
access. Generic MCP providers do not start with the same permission
choices. Managed OAuth needs a public URL setting even when the request
already has a safe HTTPS origin.

**Proposed behavior**

Apps are available by default. Setup asks only for required permissions
and sharing choices. Paperclip creates conflict-free connection names.
Google apps and generic MCP providers use the same human and agent
access model. Managed OAuth derives a validated same-origin HTTPS URL
when no explicit public URL is set.

**Reason and benefit**

A clean self-hosted install can connect a managed Google app without
hidden setup. Humans can share a service account with their
organization. The shorter flow reduces duplicated choices and setup
errors.

**Breaking changes**

The Apps experimental switch is removed. Existing connection APIs remain
compatible. New connections can receive a numeric suffix when a name
already exists.

No duplicate or related public issue was found.

## What Changed

- Removed the Apps experimental gate and the breadcrumb that leaves the
Apps section.
- Simplified all connection setup pages and moved optional provider
requirements into one small link.
- Added consistent human and agent access choices for Google apps,
Zapier, and generic MCP connections.
- Added organization sharing to Google Workspace credentials while
keeping personal access available.
- Generated connection names automatically and resolved name conflicts
with numeric suffixes.
- Derived a validated public HTTPS origin from the request for
config-free managed OAuth.
- Updated connector contracts, tests, browser coverage, and authoring
documentation.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/generic-mcp-connection.test.ts` (273 passed)
- Targeted UI/service regression suite (308 passed)
- Six targeted Playwright connection journeys on a fresh onboarding
instance (6 passed)
- Fresh-install browser proof through Tailscale HTTPS: enrolled with
Paperclip Cloud, connected managed Google Drive, and completed a real
read operation.
- [Exact-head CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/33669760711):
all 23 matrix jobs passed, including build, typecheck, server,
serialized, canary, and all browser shards.
- Greptile 5/5 on `0ae2a859f269984ee950d0af231a5b09a06f3dfd`, with no
unresolved review threads.

## Risks

Apps are now visible to all operators. The removed experimental flag no
longer hides unfinished app definitions. Managed Google availability
still depends on the Cloud profile rollout and active instance
enrollment. Automatic conflict handling changes only the display name of
a newly conflicting connection.

> I checked [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md). MCP Tool Gateway and Apps are
shipped. Connected Apps is planned, and this change improves the
existing shipped connection flow.

execution.

DottaandPaperclip c7ebc089cb fix(apps): complete managed Google Workspace rollout (#12619)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The Apps system gives agents governed access to external services
> - The managed Google Workspace connector uses separate profiles for
each app and access level
> - Several app definitions and callback paths did not enforce the same
profile contract
> - The default method could also select a customer OAuth setup when a
managed read profile was available
> - This pull request aligns the profile contracts, setup guidance,
default selection, and activity attribution
> - The benefit is a consistent managed connection flow for every Google
Workspace app

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

N/A — no public GitHub issue exists for this follow-up. Related merged
work:
[#12600](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/12600) and
[#12609](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/12609).

This change follows the merged Paperclip Cloud managed OAuth broker
work. It does not add a new broker or provider client.

**What happened?**

The Google Workspace connection definitions could drift from the shared
connector profile registry. The callback activity always named Gmail.
Google Sheets did not show the Developer Preview requirement. The setup
flow could select a customer-owned write method when Cloud advertised
only a managed read profile. The tool-access service had no non-Gmail
managed callback test.

**Expected behavior**

Each managed Google Workspace profile must use its exact app slug, MCP
URL, scopes, ownership, risk tier, and write-tool policy. Callback
activity must name the correct app and profile. Every Google Workspace
card must show the same Developer Preview prerequisite. An available
managed method must be the default within the selected capability. The
customer-owned method must remain available as a fallback.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Advertise only the `gmail.read` managed profile.
2. Open the Gmail connection setup.
3. Observe that the customer-owned draft method becomes the default.
4. Complete a managed Google Drive callback.
5. Observe that the activity row names Gmail instead of Google Drive.
6. Open the Google Sheets setup.
7. Observe that it does not show the Google Developer Preview
prerequisite.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Current `master` at the start of this follow-up.

**Deployment mode**

Local development. The same connector definitions apply to Cloud-hosted
and self-hosted instances.

**Installation method**

Built from source with pnpm.

**Agent adapter(s) involved**

Not adapter-specific. This change affects the core Apps and tool-access
paths.

## What Changed

- Added one table-driven invariant for all 16 Google Workspace profiles.
- Verified each profile against its app slug, MCP URL, exact scopes,
capability, ownership, grant kind, risk tier, and write-tool allowlist.
- Kept the Google Chat write profile least-privilege because its only
enabled write tool is `send_message`.
- Added the Google Developer Preview prerequisite to Google Sheets.
- Preferred an available Paperclip-managed method before a
customer-owned method.
- Preserved explicit capability selection and the customer OAuth
fallback.
- Switched managed-profile availability from the anonymous global
capability document to the enrolled instance's signed status response,
so internal-pilot profiles cannot be enabled locally without an
authorized instance binding.
- Replaced the Gmail callback activity constant with the validated app
slug and connector profile.
- Added connector and route coverage for signed per-instance
capabilities, including inactive and malformed responses.
- Added a Google Drive callback test that covers the signed profile
request, personal vault refs, encrypted secret rows, catalog filtering,
and non-sensitive activity details.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed across all workspaces before the
signed-capability follow-up; final targeted shared and server typechecks
also passed after it.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector.test.ts` — passed, 9
tests.
- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts` —
passed, 19 tests.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` — passed, 205 tests.
- `pnpm test:run` — incomplete after the general server group reported
five failures in `server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts`. The
failures are outside the changed files. The run was stopped before the
remaining serialized suites because the shared worktree was needed for a
follow-up edit.
- `pnpm build` — passed on the final tree.
- `git diff --check` — passed on the final tree.

The five full-suite failures were:

- `records teardown and cleanup operations when a recorder is provided`
- `does not accept an occupied allocated port when listener ownership is
unavailable`
- `backfills a pre-existing HTTP-only managed worktree runtime to
verified HTTPS in place`
- `re-adopts a live service whose shell command differs from the
surviving process argv`
- `reuses a registered legacy worktree that already has the branch
checked out`

## Risks

- The default setup method changes when at least one Paperclip-managed
method is available. Explicit read, write, or draft choices still stay
within the selected capability group.
- Managed method availability now depends on Paperclip Cloud's signed
enrolled-instance status. A Cloud outage or an inactive enrollment hides
managed methods while leaving customer-owned OAuth available.
- The callback activity schema gains a non-sensitive `profile` value. It
does not include tokens, account identifiers, emails, tenant
identifiers, or provider error text.
- The profile invariant is strict. A future Google scope or tool change
must update the shared registry and the matching app definition
together.
- There are no database migrations and no public API changes.

DottaandPaperclip 3475e33fc7 fix(connector): isolate broker enrollment targets (#12609)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets operators connect provider accounts for their agents.
> - Self-hosted instances can enroll with the Paperclip Cloud OAuth
broker.
> - A local identity can remain on disk when an operator changes the
broker from production to staging.
> - The old code combined the new target with the old identity and
produced a verification link that Cloud could not accept.
> - The final enrollment callback also returned to an unscoped Apps
path.
> - This pull request binds each identity to one broker target and
returns to the correct company route.
> - The benefit is a fail-closed enrollment flow that works across Cloud
targets and company-prefixed routes.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #12600

**What happened?**

A self-hosted instance with a saved connector identity could switch its
broker base URL and environment. Paperclip then used the saved identity
with the new target. The enrollment page received an unknown draft. A
successful callback also opened an unscoped Apps path, which the UI
treated as a company prefix.

**Expected behavior**

Paperclip must use one atomic identity and broker target. A target
change must never mix old keys with a new broker. A completed enrollment
must return to the initiating company's Connections page.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start a self-hosted Paperclip instance and create a pending connector
enrollment against the production broker.
2. Set the connector base URL and environment to staging.
3. Start enrollment again and open the returned verification URL.
4. Complete enrollment and inspect the final browser route.

**Paperclip version or commit**

`300a89ec1`

**Deployment mode**

Local dev (`pnpm dev`) through private HTTPS.

## What Changed

- Resolve the connector broker and environment as one target.
- Rotate a non-active identity when an administrator explicitly starts
enrollment for a different target.
- Reject active target changes and broker/environment mismatches.
- Treat managed environment identity fields as one atomic tuple.
- Require the Cloud verification URL to contain only the exact
enrollment identifier.
- Validate the configured target again before the instance redeems an
enrollment callback.
- Return successful enrollment callbacks to the company-prefixed
Connections page.
- Add regression tests for target isolation, managed identity
precedence, URL validation, and the return path.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector-enrollment.test.ts
server/src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector.test.ts
server/src/routes/tool-access-connection-intent.test.ts` (31 tests
passed)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm build`
- `git diff --check`
- Completed a staging Cloud enrollment from a local Paperclip instance
through private HTTPS.
- Confirmed the instance reports an active staging enrollment for its
exact HTTPS origin.
- Confirmed the company-prefixed Connections route renders the
enrollment success state.
- `pnpm test:run` also reached five unrelated macOS harness failures.
Two compare `/var` with `/private/var`. Three expect listener-fixture
failures that do not occur on this host. The same five failures
reproduce when the two workspace-runtime suites run alone.

## Risks

- Low risk. The change affects only Paperclip Cloud connector identity
selection and the enrollment return route.
- An active identity now fails closed when an operator changes its
broker target. The operator must restore the original target or perform
a new enrollment flow.
- Starting a new target replaces a non-active draft, so its previous
one-time approval link no longer works.
- This change does not alter provider tokens, grants, catalogs, or tool
calls.

discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6 Sol. The work used high-reasoning mode,
repository tools, code execution, browser automation, and parallel
review subagents.

DottaandPaperclip a7e6b818e9 feat(apps): add Paperclip Cloud managed OAuth connector (#12600)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets operators give governed tools to AI agents.
> - Connected Apps already support provider OAuth and personal
connection grants.
> - Some providers require one stable callback and do not support
dynamic client registration.
> - Self-hosted Paperclip instances can run at private or changeable
origins.
> - Paperclip Cloud can provide the stable callback while each instance
keeps its durable provider credentials.
> - This pull request adds the instance side of that managed OAuth
protocol and keeps customer-created clients available.
> - The benefit is a safe path to one-click Workspace connections for
hosted and enrolled self-hosted instances.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting. This change updates the server, Apps UI, shared app
definitions, and connection documentation.

**Problem or motivation**

Some OAuth providers require a pre-registered callback and
provider-owned client. An arbitrary self-hosted Paperclip origin cannot
use that client callback directly. Paperclip ID must also stay limited
to product identity instead of resource authorization.

**Proposed solution**

Use the existing Paperclip Cloud application as the fixed callback
broker. Enroll each instance to an exact origin and separate Ed25519 and
X25519 keys. Bind every request and sealed envelope to the instance,
environment, user, company, provider, profile, and exact scope set.
Store durable provider credentials only in the originating instance
vault.

**Alternatives considered**

Customer-created OAuth clients remain available as the independent
fallback. A generic redirect relay was rejected because it would allow
caller-selected destinations and scopes. Paperclip ID was rejected as
the broker because it is the identity boundary. A new service was
rejected because the existing Cloud application already owns customer
login and the public callback origin.

**Roadmap alignment**

This work extends the shipped MCP Tool Gateway and Apps milestone. It
also supports the Connected Apps and Cloud deployments roadmap items.

Companion Cloud implementation:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/312

The duplicate search found no related open Paperclip PR or issue.

## What Changed

- Add a `paperclip_cloud_connector` client with signed requests, exact
profile and scope bindings, and X25519-sealed credential handling.
- Add explicit self-hosted enrollment with owner-only instance key
storage and exact HTTPS origins.
- Route managed Google Workspace setup through Paperclip Cloud and
preserve customer-created OAuth clients.
- Keep broker claims retryable until the local vault transaction
commits.
- Keep managed Google per-profile removal local-only to avoid
client-wide provider revocation.
- Add setup status to the Connections page and retain the Paperclip ID
names as compatibility aliases.
- Document the trust boundaries, enrollment, callback, refresh, removal,
and rollout flows.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared exec vitest run
src/app-definitions.test.ts`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector.test.ts
src/services/paperclip-cloud-connector-enrollment.test.ts`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t 'brokered Gmail
OAuth|brokered OAuth state'`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/pages/apps/Connections.test.tsx`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm build`
- The full stable test runner also reproduced existing macOS workspace,
skill-discovery, and listener fixture failures outside the changed
paths. GitHub Linux CI is the authoritative full-suite result.

## Risks

- The managed flow depends on
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/312. Real provider
profiles stay disabled until Cloud deploys that protocol and the
provider approves the managed client.
- A Cloud outage blocks new authorization and refresh. Existing access
tokens continue to work until expiry.
- Managed Google profile removal only deletes the local grant. This
avoids invalidating the user's other profiles that share the managed
Google client.
- Legacy `paperclip_id_connector` records require a reconnect after
their current access tokens expire. Old Paperclip ID keys and refresh
tokens are not sent to Paperclip Cloud.

> - Some providers use managed OAuth or external credential brokers.
> - Those tokens must stay out of durable Paperclip state and fail
closed when refresh fails.
> - This pull request adds managed connector backends and the required
storage contract.
> - The benefit is safer provider setup with governed credential
lifecycles.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 8 of 11. It depends on stack 7 and replaces another
reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Add managed Google Workspace and external connector backends.
- Add Vercel Connect support without storing provider bearer tokens.
- Add replay-safe migration 0232 and its generated snapshot.
- Fail closed and clear stale token bindings when organization OAuth
refresh needs reauthorization.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`
- Result: 194 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server
server/src/services/remote-url-credentials.test.ts` (5 passed, including
URL userinfo vault extraction)

## Risks

- Broker metadata errors can block provider setup.
- OAuth refresh failure disables the shared organization connection
until reauthorization.
- Migration 0232 is generated, ordered after 0231, and safe to replay.

DottaandPaperclip b3343dbd64 feat(connections): add self-serve intent runtime (#12345)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agents need a governed way to request app connections during issue
work.
> - The catalog now describes the available providers and setup methods.
> - A request must become a durable, company-scoped intent before an
operator acts on it.
> - This pull request adds that intent runtime across server, agent,
CLI, and shared contracts.
> - The benefit is a safe bridge from agent need to operator-approved
setup.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 7 of 11. It depends on stack 6 and replaces another
reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Add connection intent types, validation, service logic, and routes.
- Add agent runtime tools and CLI support for connection requests.
- Add issue-thread interaction support for connection intents.
- Add runtime, route, adapter, and contract tests.
- Hold the final resolved-continuation row lock through asynchronous
adapter preparation until an actual process spawn, so parking or
reassignment cannot cross that boundary.
- Report Hermes Gateway's first remote run request through the shared
dispatch hook so the resolved-intent lock is released at the true
dispatch boundary.
- Revalidate the addressed user's live non-viewer membership and
connection-management authority for every intent mutation, including
OAuth completion.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`
- Result: 176 tests passed.
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts` (32 passed;
includes non-process dispatch lock-release coverage)
- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server

"addressed-user mutation"` (1 passed)
- `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server
server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t "binds OAuth
callback completion to the initiating board session"` (1 passed)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter test --
src/gateway/server/execute.test.ts` (23 passed; includes dispatch-hook
ordering and exactly-once coverage)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter typecheck`

## Risks

- A malformed intent could create an unusable operator request.
- Validators and company checks reject invalid or cross-company
requests.
- The final continuation gate holds the issue row lock through adapter
preparation until process or remote dispatch; later operator changes use
the normal active-run interruption path.
- The change does not add a database migration.

DottaandPaperclip 6244e4cf32 feat(apps): add Composio and Gmail connectors (#12342)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - App connections need both direct providers and managed provider
hubs.
> - The grant layer now defines safe credential ownership.
> - Composio needs parent and child connection lifecycle rules, and
Gmail needs governed setup.
> - This pull request adds both connector families on the grant
foundation.
> - The benefit is broader app access without weakening credential
isolation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 4 of 11. It depends on stack 3 and replaces another
reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Add Composio parent and child connection support.

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`
- Result: 164 tests passed.
- `pnpm build`

## Risks

- Parent lifecycle changes can affect every Composio child.
- The service restores only children whose provider accounts remain
active.
- Credential binding paths are normalized before secret resolution.

DottaandPaperclip 20ccf3f476 feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries.
> - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use
case.
> - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another
reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Add company and user connection grants.
- Add delegated identity and membership rules.
- Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts.
- Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in
the same layer that mounts it.
- Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage.

## Verification

- The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential
use.
- Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay.

DottaandPaperclip b51112798f feat(apps): improve gateway and workspace connection UX (#12340)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - App connections must work in both the operator UI and agent tool
gateway.
> - The first stack layer adds secure remote connections.
> - Operators still need clear setup, test, and recovery states.
> - This pull request adds the gateway behavior and the workspace
connection experience.
> - The benefit is a connection flow that is easier to understand and
recover.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 2 of 11. It depends on stack 1 and replaces another
reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Improve remote tool gateway connection behavior.
- Add clearer app setup, test, and recovery states.
- Add focused server and UI tests for the new paths.
- Keep the diff isolated from later identity and catalog work.
- Stabilize DNS-pinned remote HTTP protocol fixtures and the
managed-runtime public-origin fixture for this independently tested
layer.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` (150 passed)
- `pnpm test:run`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm build`

## Risks

- Gateway errors now surface through new user-facing states.
- A stale connection can require a new setup attempt.
- The change does not add a database migration.
- The injected HTTP transport and public URL are test-only fixtures;
production DNS pinning and runtime behavior are unchanged.

DottaandPaperclip cabc9146d0 feat(apps): add secure remote MCP and PostHog setup (#12339)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools.
> - Remote MCP setup needs secure endpoint validation and durable
credentials.
> - PostHog needs both browser sign-in and personal API key setup paths.
> - This pull request adds the shared remote MCP foundation and the
PostHog definition.
> - The benefit is a secure and reusable base for later app connection
work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11965

This is stack 1 of 11. It replaces the first reviewable part of #11965.

## What Changed

- Add guarded remote MCP setup and credential handling.
- Add PostHog OAuth and API key connection methods.
- Add focused server, shared contract, and UI coverage.
- Keep the migration replay-safe and idempotent.
- Give the late-close security regression the same 10-second CI headroom
as the adjacent real-timer handshake test.
- Synchronize fake-timer handshake tests at the exact ensure-session
boundary so real filesystem setup cannot race the fake deadline.
- Drive PTY overflow coverage only after listener registration so
scheduling cannot reorder the test fixture.

## Verification

- pnpm exec vitest run
packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts (220 passed; affected
cases also passed five focused stress repetitions)
- `pnpm exec vitest run
packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never leaks a
sandbox-provided value from a late close rejection into logs or the
result"` (1 passed)
- `pnpm exec vitest run
packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never
promotes a late ensureSession resolution|closes a late-resolving real
handle exactly once"` (2 passed)
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`
- `pnpm build`

## Risks

- Remote endpoint validation can reject configurations that previously
passed without checks.
- OAuth configuration errors can block setup until the operator corrects
the provider settings.
- The migration uses guarded statements so repeated execution is safe.
- The test-only synchronization changes do not affect runtime behavior;
they remove filesystem/fake-clock and listener-registration races
observed under parallel CI load.

Daniel SauerandDaniel Sauer 91669741d2 fix(server): close tool-access cross-tenant ID oracles (#9589)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip's company-scoped HTTP routes must reject inaccessible
resources before returning resource-specific authorization results.
> - The shared `getAccessibleResource` helper established that
invariant, but direct tool-access routes still fetched globally unique
IDs first and then returned 403 from later authorization checks.
> - A signed-in user could therefore distinguish a valid foreign-company
resource ID from an unknown ID.
> - This change applies the existing tenant-aware lookup gate
consistently across direct tool-resource routes and rejects inaccessible
OAuth state before callback-specific authorization.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

- No standalone issue exists. This is a security-hardening follow-up to
#3967.
- **Observed:** a member of company A can submit a known application,
connection, profile, profile-entry, or OAuth-state ID belonging to
company B and receive a different response than for a random missing ID.
- **Expected:** missing and inaccessible foreign resources are
indistinguishable at the HTTP boundary. Signed-in instance
administrators still require company membership for company-scoped
access.
- **Reproduction:** create resources in company B, authenticate as an
owner of company A without B membership, and call the direct
`/api/tool-*` routes using B's IDs. Before this change, affected calls
returned 403 while unknown IDs returned 404.

## What Changed

- Wrapped direct application, connection, profile, and profile-entry
lookups in `server/src/routes/tool-access.ts` with the shared
`getAccessibleResource` 404 gate.
- Added tenant membership validation to OAuth callback-state lookup
before session/role checks, returning the same invalid-state response as
an unknown state.
- Expanded route regressions across connection/profile endpoint
families, including grants, usage, installs, gateway-backed test calls,
OAuth, mutations, catalog/activity reads, profile entries, and
instance-admin-without-membership access.
- Updated application update/delete expectations from cross-tenant 403
to non-enumerating 404 responses.

## Verification

After rebasing onto current `master`:

- `pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` from
`server/` — 113 passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — previously passed on
the same implementation; affected upstream paths were unchanged before
this mechanical rebase.

## Risks

- Low implementation risk: no schema, migration, or successful
same-company response changes.
- Intentional behavior change: inaccessible foreign tool-resource IDs
now return 404 instead of 403; inaccessible OAuth states return the same
400 body as missing/expired states.
- The gate reuses `getAccessibleResource` / `hasCompanyAccess` semantics
established by #3967.

DottaandPaperclip 0a511ed1b0 feat(apps): support multiple provider connections (#11060)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The Apps subsystem connects company tools through governed provider
connections.
> - A company can need more than one account for the same provider.
> - The current database constraint and Apps flow assume one named
connection per company.
> - New quarantined actions also need an explicit review decision before
activation.
> - This pull request supports multiple provider connections and
complete action review decisions.
> - The benefit is safer access control and a clear multi-account Apps
workflow.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #11040

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting. This change affects the Apps UI, the tool access API, the
shared request contract, and the database schema.

**Problem or motivation**

The connection name constraint prevents a company from keeping more than
one connection for a provider. The Apps UI also reuses an existing OAuth
connection when a user asks to connect another account. Action review
can enable selected entries without recording a decision for every
quarantined action.

**Proposed solution**

Remove the company and connection name uniqueness constraint. Let users
open, count, edit, and create multiple provider connections. Require the
finish request to cover every quarantined action exactly once before the
server activates reviewed entries.

**Alternatives considered**

The UI could generate unique internal names and keep the database
constraint. This would preserve a one-connection assumption in the data
model and would make display names part of identity. The server could
also infer review decisions from enabled actions. This would not
distinguish a reviewed disabled action from an action that the user did
not review.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change extends the completed MCP Tool Gateway and Apps milestone.
It also supports the Connected Apps roadmap item. It follows the
navigation and connection management work in #11040.

## What Changed

- Remove the company-scoped connection name uniqueness index with an
ordered and idempotent migration.
- Add a reviewed action list to the finish-app contract and reject
incomplete or duplicate review decisions.
- Activate reviewed entries and keep unreviewed quarantined entries
blocked.
- Enable a completed connection and preserve the company and connection
scope in all updates.
- Show provider connection counts and open the provider setup page from
Browse.
- Let users edit existing connections or connect another account without
reusing an active OAuth connection.
- Update focused server and UI coverage for multiple connections and
action review.

## Verification

- Ran the focused Apps UI suite. All 116 tests passed in 11 files.
- Ran the focused server and CLI suite. All 276 tests passed in 3 files.
- Ran `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`. The migration
safety check passed.
- Ran `pnpm -r typecheck`. All projects passed.
- Ran `pnpm build`. All projects built successfully.
- Ran `pnpm test:run`. It passed 3,735 tests and skipped 4 tests. One
worktree-safety assertion failed because the execution workspace reloads
its worktree marker. The same test passed with an isolated non-worktree
marker.
- Ran `pnpm check:token-gates`. It reports 12 existing violations in the
unchanged `PaperclipOrbit3D.tsx` file from the target branch.
- Started the six affected Playwright specifications. Chromium could not
start because the host does not provide `libatk-1.0.so.0`. The GitHub
e2e jobs will verify these specifications.
- GitHub Actions passed every final-head CI gate, including all three
e2e shards and the aggregate `e2e` and `verify` jobs.
- Greptile reviewed final commit `9af9200426` at 5/5 with zero review
threads.

## Risks

- Removing the name uniqueness index permits duplicate display names.
Stable connection IDs and UIDs remain unique within a company.
- The finish-app endpoint accepts the new review field as optional for
backward compatibility. When clients send it, the server requires a
complete decision for all quarantined actions.
- Multiple OAuth connections depend on the explicit new-connection route
flag. Focused tests cover active and draft connection reuse.
- The migration is ordered after migration 0210. Its `DROP INDEX IF
EXISTS` statement is safe to repeat.

DottaandPaperclip cac3c0fa1a feat(connections): add runtime subjects and grants (#9982)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Connections is the subsystem that lets operators connect external
apps and govern which subjects may use those credentials
> - #9958 established the v3 schema foundation and #9981 adds the
AppDefinition catalog layer
> - The runtime still needs subject-aware authorization state, scoped
key handling, and API/OpenAPI routes so connected apps can actually be
granted and used safely
> - This pull request adds the runtime grants/authorization behavior on
top of the catalog branch, while keeping unrelated dependency and
workflow sync commits out of the stack
> - The benefit is a reviewable runtime layer that can land after the
catalog PR, then unblock the wizard and orchestrator cutover work

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #9958 and #9981.
Refs #9981.

No public GitHub issue exists for this branch. This is the runtime layer
for the Connections v3 stack and is rebased onto `master` after #9981
landed.

## What Changed

- Adds the connection user authorization state migration and schema
wiring.
- Adds shared runtime subject/grant types and validators.
- Adds runtime grant and scoped key behavior in the tool-access service.
- Adds runtime route coverage and registers the routes in OpenAPI.
- Replays only the Connections runtime commits on top of the catalog
branch, dropping unrelated sync/dependency history from the prior closed
runtime PR.

## Verification

- `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links`
- `pnpm exec vitest run
packages/shared/src/validators/tool-access.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`

## Risks

- Medium: runtime grant enforcement is security-sensitive and must fail
closed for unknown key scopes.
- Migration ordering depends on the schema and catalog layers already
merged through #9958 and #9981.
- This PR is rebased and retargeted to `master` with runtime-only
commits.

DottaandPaperclip d23fbf8ae4 feat(connections): add AppDefinition Wave 1 catalog (#9981)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Connections is the subsystem that defines which external apps and
MCP-style integrations operators can browse, configure, and run
> - The v3 schema core in #9958 added stable connection identities, auth
metadata, and grant-aware contracts, but the app catalog still used the
older gallery shape
> - The product needs a richer, typed AppDefinition catalog so browsing
and setup can render provider-specific auth and configuration
requirements consistently
> - This pull request moves the Wave 1 app catalog onto generated
AppDefinition data and carries that shape through shared types, server
lookup paths, and app connection UI
> - The benefit is that follow-up runtime and wizard work can build
against one catalog contract instead of local-only mock/gallery data

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #9958.

No public GitHub issue exists for this branch. This is the catalog layer
for the Connections v3 stack after the schema-core foundation in #9958.

## What Changed

- Adds generated AppDefinition data for the Wave 1 catalog and ingestion
reporting.
- Replaces the legacy tool app gallery exports with
AppDefinition-centered shared contracts, validators, and tests.
- Updates server tool-access lookup behavior to use the AppDefinition
catalog.
- Updates app connection UI surfaces and tests to consume
AppDefinition-backed catalog data.
- Documents the catalog ingestion workflow in the connector playbook.

## Verification

- `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links`
- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/app-definitions.test.ts
packages/shared/src/app-definitions-url.test.ts
ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx
server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts`

## Risks

- Medium: this changes the catalog contract used by shared, server, and
UI app connection surfaces.
- Catalog data quality matters because generated definitions now drive
browse/setup display.
- Follow-up runtime and wizard PRs must rebase on this branch or on
master after this lands.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 7947308276 fix(codex): classify refresh auth failures (#9598)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Paperclip supports the Codex local adapter, which runs OpenAI Codex
CLI sessions on behalf of agents
> - Codex uses OAuth refresh tokens to maintain long-running
authenticated sessions
> - When a refresh fails, the failure has distinct root causes: a
refresh token was already reused in a parallel request, the token
expired by TTL, or the token was invalidated/revoked by the provider
> - Without classifying these failure modes, all refresh auth errors
surface identically — operators cannot distinguish retryable transient
collisions from permanent invalidations, and run logs carry no
actionable diagnosis
> - This pull request adds structured classification
(`refresh_token_reused`, `refresh_token_expired`,
`refresh_token_invalidated`) of Codex refresh-token auth failures across
the CLI quota-probe, ACP auth path, and execute path
> - The benefit is that these distinct failure modes can be surfaced in
run logs and acted on appropriately — transient reuse can be retried;
true invalidations require re-auth

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

<!-- Path B: no public GitHub issue — describing inline as a bug fix -->

**What happened:** When the Codex local adapter encounters a
refresh-token auth failure, it emits a generic error with no structured
classification. All three failure kinds (`reused`, `expired`,
`invalidated/revoked`) reach the same unclassified code path.

**Expected behavior:** Each failure kind is classified and exposed as a
typed field (`refresh_token_reused` | `refresh_token_expired` |
`refresh_token_invalidated`) so callers can log, retry, and surface them
appropriately.

**Steps to reproduce:**
1. Run a Codex agent session with a reused or expired OAuth refresh
token.
2. Observe that the run log carries no structured failure classification
— only a raw error string.

**Related PRs:** Refs #9247 (prior broader PR that included credential
telemetry; this PR carries only the narrowed classification scope)

## What Changed

- Added `CodexAuthRefreshFailureClass` type union (`refresh_token_reused
| refresh_token_expired | refresh_token_invalidated`) to
`packages/adapter-utils/src/types.ts`
- Added `classifyCodexAuthRefreshFailure()` to
`packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/parse.ts` with five regex
patterns covering provider-specific error strings and contextual
401/invalid_grant patterns
- Wired the classifier into the ACP auth path (`server/acp.ts`), execute
path (`server/execute.ts`), and CLI quota-probe (`cli/quota-probe.ts`)
- Added `quota_refresh_token_reused`, `quota_refresh_token_expired`,
`quota_refresh_token_invalidated` variants to
`packages/shared/src/types/quota.ts`
- Added classification unit tests (`parse.test.ts`,
`quota-spawn-error.test.ts`, `acp.test.ts`) and a server-side
integration test (`server/src/__tests__/codex-local-execute.test.ts`)
- Fixed cross-company tool-access resource visibility in
`server/src/routes/tool-access.ts`
- Stabilized `heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts` (CASCADE cleanup),
`heartbeat-run-log.test.ts`, and `quota-windows.test.ts`

## Verification

- `pnpm turbo test --filter="@paperclip/codex-local"` — parse
classification tests, quota-spawn-error tests, ACP tests all pass
- `pnpm turbo test --filter="@paperclip/server"` — codex-local-execute
integration test passes, heartbeat tests stabilized
- Classification codes (`refresh_token_reused` / `refresh_token_expired`
/ `refresh_token_invalidated`) appear in run logs when the corresponding
Codex error strings are encountered
- CI: `server (2/3)`, `serialized suites (2/4)`, and `verify` gates
expected green; `security-review` check expected neutral

## Risks

Low risk. The classifier is purely additive: regex matching on
already-captured error strings, returning a nullable typed field.
Callers that do not inspect the classification field are unaffected. No
execution paths, retry logic, or existing error surfaces changed.

## Model Used

- **Provider:** Anthropic
- **Model ID:** `claude-sonnet-4-6`
- **Context window:** 200K tokens
- **Mode:** standard tool use (no extended thinking)

DottaandPaperclip cfa5e0704e feat(mcp) [split 3/8]: add tool access policy core (#9558)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters,
UI surfaces, and operator verification
> - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated
or human review
> - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs
stay below the 100-file review limit
> - This pull request is split 3/8 and focuses on tool-access policy and
authorization core
> - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while
preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

- Related parity reference: #9534
- Problem: Authorization, OAuth binding, secret projection, content
guards, and policy evaluation need a security-reviewable server
boundary.
- Proposed solution: Adds tool-access services/routes/tests plus the
runtime service dependencies directly imported by the core, without
registering the routes in the application.
- Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or
rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor
of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves.
- Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access
work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate
roadmap initiative.
- Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/02-schema-shared`.
- Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete
eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate
remains empty.
- Requested review: SecurityEngineer for authz, OAuth, secrets, and
content guards; Greptile on every PR.

## What Changed

- Adds tool-access services/routes/tests plus the runtime service
dependencies directly imported by the core, without registering the
routes in the application.
- Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable.
- Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven
stack levels.

## Verification

- `pnpm typecheck`
- Focused server Vitest run — 4 files, 143 tests passed

## Risks

- Authorization bugs could permit cross-company or over-broad tool
access; the PR remains inert until PR 4 wiring and requires dedicated
security review.
- Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers;
mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy.
- Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from
#9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge.

> For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and
discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap
first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5.4`; runtime-managed context
window; medium reasoning with repository, shell, Git, GitHub CLI, and
code-execution tools enabled.
