fix(build): typecheck server/src/__tests__ and fix every type error (#18739)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The server has about 1,100 test and helper files in `server/src/__tests__` > - `server/tsconfig.json` excludes that directory, Vitest does not check types, and no script runs the tsconfig in that directory > - So a test can call a function with the wrong arguments and still pass, and no tool reports it > - This gap hid 2,168 real type errors, and some of them hid tests that did not test what they claim > - This pull request fixes all of these errors and adds the directory to the server layers from paperclipai/paperclip#18737 > - The benefit is that a type error in a server test now fails the typecheck, with no baseline and no backlog ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs paperclipai/paperclip#18737, which is merged and added the server layers. Refs paperclipai/paperclip#18738, which is merged and checks the test projects outside `pnpm -r`, so it is not a duplicate. Refs paperclipai/paperclip#18137, which records that this directory has no check. **What happened?** No tool checked the types of 1,074 of the 1,101 files in `server/src/__tests__`. I searched `package.json`, the workflows, and all tsconfig files. 27 files are in the program of another tsconfig, and these 27 have 0 errors. 11 of the 27 are in `helpers/maintenance/tsconfig.json`. No script ran that project when I measured this. paperclipai/paperclip#18738 now runs it. **Expected behavior** The server typecheck checks these files, and a type error fails the check. **Steps to reproduce** 1. On the base commit, run `tsc -p server/src/__tests__/tsconfig.json --noEmit`. It reports 6,536 errors and needs 12.3 GiB. 2. Add a type error to any file in `server/src/__tests__`. 3. Run `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`. It passes. **Paperclip version or commit** I measured the error breakdown below on commit `8dfd632452`, with TypeScript 7.0.2. The branch now includes master up to paperclipai/paperclip#18865. **Deployment mode** Not applicable. This issue applies to development and CI. No production source file in the server changes. ### Error breakdown Each row adds one change to the row above. | Step | Total errors | Change | Cause | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Config as committed | 6,536 | | | | Add `src/types/*.d.ts` | 4,447 | -2,089 | Config. The Express request types were missing. | | Set `rootDir` to the repository root | 2,436 | -2,011 | Config. | | Set `allowImportingTsExtensions` | 2,181 | -255 | Config. Vitest accepts `.ts` imports. | | Add `ES2024.Promise` to `lib` | 2,138 | -43 | Config. Node 24 has `Promise.withResolvers`. | | Set `allowJs` for `.mjs` imports | 2,148 | +10 | Config. It removes 8 `TS7016` errors and shows new real errors. | | Set `declaration` to false | 2,142 | -6 | Config. Tests emit nothing. | | Count only files in `server/src` | 2,058 | -84 | Other packages: 53 Daytona, 29 Runner test, 2 UI. | So 4,478 of the 6,536 errors (69%) came from config or scope, and 2,058 are real type errors in 314 files. The 29 Runner test errors are also real, which gives 2,087 errors. Tests that master added after this measurement had 81 more errors, so this pull request fixes 2,168 errors. This table classifies the first 2,058 errors. | Kind of real error | Errors | | --- | --- | | Wrong argument or assignment type | 1,023 | | Stale or partial fixture objects | 525 | | Property that the type does not have | 317 | | Missing narrowing of null or unknown | 101 | | Implicit any | 60 | | Missing name or module | 16 | | Other | 16 | ### What the type errors hid Most errors were stale fixtures and loose mocks. These errors hid real test problems, and this pull request fixes them: - **A test that never ran.** `instrumentation.test.ts` required `sdk-trace-base`, which is not installed. So 3 span tests were skipped. They now run and pass. - **Assertions that could not fail.** - `issue-thread-interactions-service` used a company ID as an issue ID. - `status-card-evaluation-work` compared `[]` with `[]` in a rollback check. - `slack-conversation-lifecycle` read `item.issueId`, which does not exist. - `email-channels` used a permission key that does not exist. - `heartbeat-project-env` imported `LOW_TRUST_REVIEW_PRESET`, which is not exported. The value was undefined. - **Postgres processes that did not stop.** 11 test files called `stop` on the test database helper. That method does not exist, and the helper method is `cleanup`. - **Arguments that the service ignored.** - `methodKey` is now `connectionMethodKey` in the Daytona, Unikraft, 1Password, and Railway tests. - 108 calls passed `"owner-user"` to a parameter that expects an options object. - 9 chat wizard fixtures passed `managementContext` as `source`, so they ran `existing_app` and not `manifest`. - 2 tests passed a `{ userId }` actor that the function ignores. - Inserts into `environments` passed a `companyId` column that the table does not have. - **Problems in tests that master added during this work.** - `sandbox-creation-operations` read `database.connectionString` when an external test database was set. In that mode `database` is undefined, so the fixture would stop with a TypeError. It now uses the external URL. - `idle-completed-history` set a Dot operation to `dispatched`. That is a Muse status, and the Dot type does not have it. The fixture now uses `admitted`, which is a real in-flight Dot status. ### Possible product problems, not changed These may be real problems in production code or types. I did not change them, because this pull request does not change production behavior: - `decisions-service` `service.create` does not validate the lenient `cancel_issue_tree` input. - `createConnection` ignores `input.connectionPurpose`. - The `createConnection` route schema default stores `{}` for `transportConfig`. - `prepareManagedAiRuntime` accepted the invalid value `mode: "connection"`. - `createBinding` accepts invalid `projectionClass` strings outside class 3. - `ensureManagedProjectWorkspace` forwards an untyped `repoRef` by spread. - `routineVariableSchema.label` is optional, but `RoutineVariable.label` is required. - `ToolRunContext.projectId` may be too strict. - `withdrawInteraction` reads `issue.status`, which its type omits. - `issueService.list` and `reconcileNativeFinalizations` omit fields that they return at runtime. - `createGitHubExternalObjectProvider` handles `tokenProvider: null`, but its type forbids this value. ## What Changed - Fixed the 2,168 type errors. The diff changes 322 test and helper files. - Corrected `server/src/__tests__/tsconfig.json`. Editors and the typecheck now read the same options and report the same errors. - Added three `test-tree` layers to `server/scripts/typecheck-layers.mjs`. They read the server layers as declarations, and any error fails them. A hash of the path selects the shard, so a new file does not move other files. - Added `server/scripts/typecheck-stubs/daytona-sdk.d.ts`. Server tests reach Daytona plugin source, and the root install does not have `@daytonaio/sdk`. - Changed two imports in `ui/src/lib/issue-execution-policy.ts` to use `.js` extensions, because server tests import this file. - Made `declarationsConfig` and `--declarations-only` skip the `test-tree` layers, because these layers emit nothing. Other projects read only the source layers. Added a test for this. - Updated `doc/DEVELOPING.md`. ## Verification Run these commands: ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck pnpm exec vitest run server/scripts/typecheck-layers.test.mjs ``` Results on macOS (arm64), Node 24, 16 cores. Each check ran after the merge of paperclipai/paperclip#18738 unless the row says otherwise: | Check | Commit | Result | | --- | --- | --- | | Server typecheck, `PAPERCLIP_TYPECHECK_LOW_MEMORY=1`, all 7 layers | `6e45a08573` | Exit 0, 0 errors, 62 seconds, peak 3.52 GiB | | `node scripts/typecheck-test-projects.mjs --low-memory` | `a3306bd13e` | Exit 0, 0 errors, 42 seconds, peak 3.25 GiB | | The same script with `--reuse-declarations` | `1b878aabc0` | Exit 0, 0 errors | | `typecheck-layers.test.mjs` and `live-recovery-work.test.ts` | `01db5634e4` | 90 passed. These include real compiler runs for a pass, a type error, and an invalid tsconfig. | | `tsconfig.declarations.json` after a full server typecheck | `0fb1e4fb0a` | It references only `below`, `cycle`, and `above`. No generated config names a `tsconfig.layers.json` file. | | Owned runtime test in `idle-completed-history` | `e8f2f448ac` | Passed, with the fix that master later replaced | | `idle-incoming-wake`, `plugin-idle-manager`, and the changed `chat-channels` test | `6e45a08573` | 30 passed | | Runner `native-execution.test.ts` | `eab4dcc1f4` | 114 passed | | The 19 server test files that changed since `eab4dcc1f4`, and `typecheck-layers.test.mjs` | `259737b700` | 4,275 of 4,277 passed. The 2 failures are in `chat-channels` and are in the list of 7 below. | The peak is the largest single process, from `/usr/bin/time -l`. Peaks for the server typecheck were between 3.42 GiB and 3.56 GiB across 8 runs. Peaks for the test projects were 3.25 GiB and 3.37 GiB across 2 runs. I did not measure a cgroup. **Runtime check of the fixes.** Types do not prove that a test still works. So I ran all 309 changed server test files, 11,929 tests, before the rebase onto paperclipai/paperclip#18737: | Result | Tests | Detail | | --- | --- | --- | | Passed | 11,913 | Includes the 2 tests and the 54 `dot-runner` tests that passed in a later run, as described below. | | Failed | 7 | The same 7 tests also fail on the commit before the fixes. | | Skipped | 9 | These tests have their own skip conditions: `sentry` 5, and 1 each in `bundled-plugin-registration`, `customer-success-cloud`, `onepassword-connection`, and `workspace-runtime-https-live-exercise`. | The 7 tests that fail with and without this change, on my machine: - 3 tests in `chat-channels` and `email-channels` stop with `ENOENT` on a `SKILL.md` file. The path is in the parent checkout, above the git worktree that I used, so I expect that the worktree is the cause. I did not prove this. - `workspace-instance-cleanup` compares `/private/var/...` with `/var/...`. This is a macOS symlink difference. - 2 tests in `git-reproducible-managed-checkouts` get `unknown_base_git_files` and expect `unpushed_managed_checkout`. I did not find the cause. - 1 more test in `chat-channels`, `materializes direct external-chat finals once`, gets `undefined`. I did not find the cause. CI is the check for these 7 tests. `ci / verify` passed on `eab4dcc1f4`. Failures during this work: - My fix to `agent-runtime-connector-access` changed an invalid permission key in the setup, but not in the assertion. The runtime check found this. I corrected the assertion, and the file passes. - `heartbeat-plugin-environment` failed one wait in the full run. It passed three times alone, so I think that load caused the failure. It can fail again under load. - `dot-runner` skipped all 54 tests in the full run because `cargo` was not on my `PATH`. It then passed 54 of 54 with the toolchain on the `PATH`. - My first `lib` value removed the default DOM types, and the error count went up by 375. I added the DOM libraries. - My Daytona stub with bare `any` left 48 errors, because generic helpers then inferred `unknown`. I added shapes that return promises. - One fix to `agent-secrets-routes` used `class_3_static_lease`, and the test failed. That class allows only specific paths. I reverted to `unclassified`. - `ci / General tests (server (8/12))` failed on `259737b700` because of the flaky port in `idle-completed-history`. paperclipai/paperclip#18853 fixed this test on master, so this pull request keeps that fix. **Audit of the diff.** I counted these patterns in added and removed lines, to find fixes that only hide an error: | Pattern | Added | Removed | | --- | --- | --- | | `@ts-ignore` | 0 | 0 | | `@ts-expect-error` | 0 | 1 | | `.skip` | 0 | 0 | | `as any` | 9 | 9 | | `: any` | 11 | 2 | | `as never` | 8 | 2 | | `as unknown as` | 35 | 4 | | `Promise<unknown>` | 16 | 5 | | `expect(` | 128 | 113 | No hunk removes more `expect(` calls than it adds. Three removals of test content were intentional, and I checked each one: - `muse-control` removed `signalToken`. Line 1012 already asserts that it is absent. - `merged-pr-confirmation-sweep` removed legacy aliases. Other tests cover them. - `heartbeat-workspace-branch-containment` removed a `finalize` branch that no test row can reach. Some partial fixtures stay unchecked through `as unknown as` and `Promise<unknown>`, mostly in `issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes` and `issue-comment-reopen-routes`. **Accuracy of the check.** One program over the tree and the three shards reported the same errors at the same positions. Memory, as the peak of the largest process on one thread, was 3.93 GiB for one program and 2.43 GiB for the largest shard. I measured these two values before the fixes. Not run or not proven: - I did not run the full `pnpm test:run`, or a root `pnpm build`. I expect CI to run the full suites. - I did not run the 4 GiB container check, or the full `scripts/typecheck-low-memory.mjs`. The peaks above come from macOS, so they are not a Linux cgroup measurement. - I did not run the UI typecheck after the merges. - `workspace-runtime-https-live-exercise` is skipped, so its `cleanup` fix did not run. ## Risks - **A large diff in test files.** 328 files change. A pull request that edits the same tests can get merge conflicts. New tests on master can also add type errors before this merges. Any such error fails this check and needs a fix here. - **A higher cost for changes to source types.** A change to a type can add errors in test files that the author did not touch. The author must then fix them. This is the purpose of the check, but it is new work. - **Changed test behavior.** Some tests now run paths that they did not run before, such as the 9 chat wizard fixtures and the 3 span tests. They pass here, but they can be more sensitive to timing or to the environment. - **The Daytona stub can go stale.** The stub is written by hand. If the plugin uses a new SDK member, the typecheck reports an error until someone updates the stub. - **The release path.** `release-verify.yml` and `scripts/release.sh` run `pnpm -r typecheck`, so they now run this check. - **The tsconfig change.** The test transform reads `server/src/__tests__/tsconfig.json`. The options that I changed are for type checks, and the runs above passed. - **A gap that remains.** Tsconfigs in `packages/paperclip-runner` and in most sandbox provider plugins exclude `*.test.ts`. This check does not read most of those test files, so they can still drift. That work is separate from this pull request. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Add shared native turn attribution boundaries (#18213)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work performed by AI agents. > - Native execution crosses the plugin worker, Runner, sidecar, and durable event boundaries. > - Existing outer spans leave repeated preparation and admission work unattributed. > - Optimizations need a common baseline with accurate ownership and event meanings. > - This change extends the existing opt-in tracing contract with bounded timing receipts. > - It preserves execution policy and keeps provider internals opaque where the API provides no timing proof. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Attribution of native task preparation, retained/cold Runner handoff, and completion-to-text work. **Current behavior** Worker spans use a flat provider contract. Workspace calls lack a consistent dispatch envelope. Submitted-to-started timing is named as a provider queue even though it includes other work. The transport does not expose a shared breakdown of its waits. **Proposed improvement** Add invocation-scoped nesting, bounded numeric remote receipts, current-run transport timing, durable receipt intervals, and distinct completion/text milestones. Reuse the existing exporter. No latency optimization is included. Related public work: #17842 consolidates existing startup tracing tests; it does not add this runtime coverage. ## What Changed - Extend the optional SDK tracer with nested async scopes and completed timing receipts. Keep the host responsible for parent identity, capability checks, attributes, clocks, depth, and count limits. - Add dispatch and bounded host-read timings for environment and workspace providers. - Resolve transport parents on each call so retained sessions do not retain an earlier run's trace. - Split cold/resume/attach/prepare/registration/command/started-event waits. Add opt-in numeric ACPX Runner/sidecar status and prompt-start receipts. - Distinguish first completion request, validated tool receipt, final result commit, first nonempty text, and event persistence. Rename the submitted-to-started interval to match its meaning. - Link completed earlier remote lifecycles to their host-owned observer rather than placing them under a later polling request. Preserve sampling, timestamp limits and budgets. - Document the versioned coverage map, causal clock limits, and baseline acceptance requirements. ## Verification - Current head: GitHub CI is fully green. Standard Greptile and Apex are both 5/5, with no unresolved review threads. Full-suite validation was performed in CI; follow-up local validation was limited to affected packages and tests. - Review follow-up: early rejection, missing provider capability and startup-parent regressions were reproduced and fixed. The affected worker/SDK/timing set passes 128 tests; 28 timing/context tests, SDK typecheck and direct server TypeScript checking pass. The server typecheck wrapper reached an unrelated Runner rebuild and stopped because Cargo was absent from PATH; full Runner/image validation remains in CI. - CI failure accounting: the earlier Turbo cache/force conflict and Linux OpenCode shell assertion were reproduced and diagnosed. A direct proc probe ruled out permissions; a portable shell comparison identified Bash skipping BASH_ENV with stripped SHLVL and socket stdin. Upstream #18230 now supplies the CI and ignored-stdin fixture fixes; this PR adopts them without duplicate CI changes. The strict Linux OOM assertion passed before this source-equivalent merge. - Retry follow-up: the three insertion/replay/failure timing cases and server typecheck pass. The existing database regression now asserts a single marker across identical result replay; the current-head CI integration gate passes. - Upstream CI alignment: all three real-Turbo 2.11.10 integration cases pass. The repository policy gate rejected committing a generated lockfile; the final PR contains no lockfile edit and uses the maintained inline stale-lockfile recovery. - Linked-lifecycle follow-up: 44 focused host/export tests pass (three optional SDK-dependent cases skip); SDK and server typechecks pass. The API contract test verifies an explicit root context, host-owned observer link and unsampled suppression. - SDK typecheck and focused worker/invocation tests: 30 passed, including clock changes, bounded legacy IPC, and manual-span creation-scope parentage. - Focused reviewed host/native/transaction-boundary checks: 44 passed. The 86-test worker-manager suite passes after updating its exact assertions for the host-owned timing budget found by CI. Earlier preparation/first-text checks also passed. - Affected server and Runner TypeScript checks pass after building local workspace declarations. - Merge follow-up: the profile/candidate startup subset passes 94 tests, the four Grok source-identity checks pass, and Runner TypeScript checking passes. A subsequent execution-factory merge passes 21 focused timing/trace tests and server TypeScript checking. - Pinned Rust build and the ACPX Rust subset pass. The hostile receipt projection test passes. Source profile compatibility checks: 127 passed, one existing skip. Grok identity checks: four passed. - Broad transport/ACPX suite: 410 passed after building all fake provider binaries. Earlier attempts failed on missing Runner/fake-provider outputs; building the required fixtures resolved those failures. - The first CI run correctly rejected stale source attestations. After integrating current master, Grok advances 13→14 and Copilot 84→85; master’s historical fixtures and Pi 35 stay byte-identical. Provider dependencies, models and permission defaults are unchanged. Identity generation/checks now pass. - The added real-Postgres result lock regression could not initialize its local embedded cluster. The insertion/replay/failure unit regressions pass. The current-head CI integration gate passes. - Comprehensive repository checks and image builds are delegated to CI, as requested for this instrumentation pass. No deployment, model run, collector-ingestion proof, or latency improvement is claimed. ## Risks The new SDK methods are optional. Legacy span calls and endpoint-off behavior remain supported. The host accepts only closed timing names and bounded attributes. Remote durations are anchored at local receipt; transport/scheduling uncertainty remains explicit. Trace trees have count/depth limits. The first rollout must inspect actual collector exports before treating the baseline as accepted. Fresh live qualification for the new source identities remains a rollout requirement. Revert these commits to remove the new measurements; no schema migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning and local code/tool execution. The exact runtime model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the enhancement template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal issue details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Standard Greptile and Apex are both 5/5, with no unresolved findings - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Deliver durable resource lifecycle events to plugins without polling (#16203)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Plugins keep external resources aligned with Paperclip projects and agents. > - The durable resource journal stores changes, but its plugin interface requires polling. > - Project deletion has no journal entry, so consumers must scan for missing projects. > - This PR delivers committed journal events through a native plugin callback and records deletion. > - Plugins can recover unfinished work without periodic change scans. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #15343 introduced the durable inbox. #15631 added required agent lifecycle participation. This change keeps both contracts and adds automatic delivery for the resource inbox. **What happened?** Plugins must schedule reads of the durable inbox. A deleted project has no durable deletion event. Consumers must scan saved bindings to detect its removal. **Expected behavior** Core should deliver committed resource events and replay unfinished work. Empty queues should have no polling timer. Project removal should leave a durable event. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Install a plugin that consumes project lifecycle events. 2. Create or update a project. The plugin must call `listLifecycle` to discover it. 3. Delete the project. The journal has no deletion entry. ## What Changed - Add `resourceLifecycle` to the manifest and `onResourceLifecycle` to the SDK. Require `events.subscribe` and a configured, enabled company scope. - Reuse transaction-aware work signals and the delivery coordinator. Wake after commit, on startup and plugin activation, and after configuration changes. - Acknowledge only a matching successful result. Retry unfinished or interrupted work. Retain deferred events without an idle retry timer. - Wake again after successful worker configuration application, and retain failed scans through idle drain (both Apex findings fixed). - Keep ordering per resource and deliver past failed or deferred resources. Keep the manual inbox methods for existing consumers. - Record project deletion in the removal transaction. Extend the journal constraint with a generated migration. ## Verification - Apex follow-up: 129 focused worker, delivery, coordinator, and application tests passed; server typecheck passed. Regression coverage verifies configuration-application races and failed scans across idle drain. - Focused lifecycle, transaction coordinator, manifest, and SDK dispatch suites: 105 tests passed, including single-connection saves, redacted failure diagnostics, wakeups retained during idle drain, and per-event retry deadlines. - Complete SDK suite plus delivery database tests: 128 tests passed. - Shared, database, and SDK typechecks passed. Direct server `tsc --noEmit` passed against rebuilt SDK declarations. - Full local `pnpm test:run` finished with 19,491 passed, 148 skipped, and 6 failed tests across 5 files (plus two suite setup errors). This run overlapped branch updates and is not final-head evidence: failures included missing Cargo, local Git default-branch assumptions, and stale in-process lifecycle modules. Final Apex-fix commit `75d028788` passed all CI gates, including the full test shards, and received Apex 5/5 with no unresolved comments. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` were attempted. Both stopped because Cargo is unavailable locally. CI supplies the Rust toolchain. - Local installation used the repository's documented lockfile fallback because master has dependencies missing from its lockfile. No dependency changes are included here. ## Risks - Delivery is at least once. Plugins must re-read current state and make external effects idempotent. - Signals are process-local, like the other delivery queues. Startup recovers committed rows. Independent database writers or multiple active server processes require an explicit ownership and wake protocol. - Apply migration `0340_open_warlock.sql` before running code that records project deletion. Earlier deletions cannot be reconstructed. - Automatic delivery selects plugins with company configuration rows. `deferred` waits for a later startup, configuration change, or other work notification. - This does not replace required agent lifecycle participation or establish that external mounts are unused. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with tool-assisted code editing, code inspection, and test execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Add plugin lifecycle delivery and an initial resource baseline (#15343)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and projects for work. > - Their lifecycle changes already commit to a durable journal. > - Plugins need to read these records and track completed work. > - Existing resources need a one-time baseline before delivery is enabled. > - Worker crashes must leave unfinished records available for retry. > - Each plugin needs its own progress and company access checks. > - This PR adds a pull inbox through the existing plugin SDK and job system. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Plugins cannot consume the durable resource lifecycle journal. In-process notifications can disappear during a restart and cannot record successful completion. Resource plugins need retries, company boundaries, and ordered transitions. **Proposed solution** Add `ctx.events.listLifecycle(companyId, limit?, afterId?)` and `ctx.events.acknowledgeLifecycle(companyId, eventId)` under `events.subscribe`. Seed a one-time baseline from current resource state. Deliver creation first, then the remaining transitions in ID order. Store acknowledgments for each plugin. Use existing plugin jobs to poll configured companies. **Alternatives considered** A global sequence cursor can skip lower IDs that commit later. Fire-and-forget subscriptions cannot record completion. A new dispatcher is unnecessary because plugin jobs support polling. Consumers serialize polling and use provider idempotency keys. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing plugin system and builds on #15280 and #15306. Searches found no duplicate resource inbox work. Related #13306 exposes decision events on the in-process bus. This PR includes the initial journal baseline. Provider provisioning remains separate work. ## What Changed - Add company-scoped lifecycle reads and acknowledgments to the SDK and worker RPC host. - Gate both methods by capability, invocation or proactive company scope, plugin readiness, and company enablement. - Seed hired agents and all projects once. Preserve paused/terminated agent state and archived project state. Keep pending hires behind approval. - Preserve existing history and deliver backfilled creation before partial transition histories. - Deliver project archive events from #15371 through the SDK. Seed archive intents for archived projects and update intents for active projects with a partial archive history. - Store acknowledgments per plugin and reject acknowledgments that skip earlier resource events. - Page past failed resources while retaining their pending records. Reset the page cursor each sweep to include late commits. - Add acknowledgment storage, an index for resource ordering, tests, and authoring guidance. - Preserve native identity definitions and sequence progress in JavaScript backups. Repair journal ID generators lost by older backups before seeding the baseline, without changing existing IDs. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after the final origin/master rebase. - `pnpm build` passed before the final metadata rebase. The final CI build also passed. - All 46 focused lifecycle, SDK harness/RPC, migration snapshot, and legacy restore checks passed again with migration 0309. - Checks cover retries, per-plugin progress, resource order, capability/company boundaries, baseline idempotency, approval gates, archive delivery, restored projects with partial histories, and atomic migration rollback. - Full CI passed on final commit `0e674b87fc`. One unrelated Cursor fixture hit a 10-second timeout; it passed locally in under one second, and the failed server shard passed on retry. - Greptile scored the final commit 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - The branch is rebased onto origin/master and is conflict-free. - Earlier full local runs were stopped as scope changed. CI ran the complete repository suite. - `git diff --check` and a local secret/PII scan passed. ## Risks - Apply migration `0309_loving_the_hood.sql` before starting the new server. It creates acknowledgment storage and an index, then seeds the baseline in the same transaction. Agent/project writes wait for the migration to commit. Keep these writes quiesced through the migration and activation of the new capture-capable server; do not resume an older runtime that lacks capture after the baseline. - The baseline records current desired state, not historical transitions. It includes archived projects and terminated-agent cleanup intents. It runs once with the delivery migration; no later or runtime journal backfill is planned. - Delivery is at least once. Concurrent reads can repeat an event. Consumers must serialize polling, use stable company/event idempotency keys, and acknowledge successful operations only. - Reset `afterId` at the start of every polling sweep. It is a page cursor, not a persisted high-water mark. - Deleting a plugin removes its acknowledgment records. A new installation may replay existing journal events. - Records contain identity and action. Consumers must load current authorized data before acting. Cleanup and retention policy belong to the provider plugin. - Provider calls, VM/volume provisioning, and journal retention are outside this PR. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and tool use. fix(runner): keep healthy native sessions alive (#13261)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native sessions keep a provider process and its work alive across control-plane operations. > - A hidden 15-minute turn deadline stopped work even when the agent timeout was zero. > - A one-hour runner lifetime and fixed connection lease added two more limits. > - Recovery also rejected goal commands because it reconstructed their startup summary with the wrong protocol version. > - This pull request removes implicit duration limits and renews authenticated leases in the harness. > - Healthy sessions can continue without model action or a user interface change. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13092 and #12845. Related: #13163 covers sandbox recovery after app restarts; this change covers session duration and lease renewal. **What happened?** A native Codex session stopped after 15 minutes while a tool was still running. The agent had `timeoutSec: 0`. Recovery then rejected a `session.goal.get` startup command with `invalid provider startup ownership fence`. **Expected behavior** An unlimited session keeps working while its provider and authenticated controller remain healthy. Lease maintenance is transparent. Explicit timeouts, cancellation and revoked authority still take effect. **Steps to reproduce** Start a native session with `timeoutSec: 0` and run a tool beyond 15 minutes. Before this fix, the runtime cancels the turn. A recovery startup that uses a goal command also exposes the protocol-version mismatch. ## What Changed - Honor the agent turn timeout. Zero disables the timer. Long explicit durations use timer chunks to avoid Node timer overflow. - Default native runner lifetime to unlimited. Keep bounded startup, reconnect and control-operation deadlines. - Renew leases over the authenticated connection. Persist renewal before the reply. Validate identity, epoch and expiry. Handle duplicate requests and a lost reply on reconnect. - Freeze renewal during warm ownership transitions and terminal handling. - Validate persisted goal startup commands with protocol v2. - Add duration, renewal, ownership, recovery and real-process regression tests. Update runner protocol and recovery docs. - Add no UI components or controls. Renewal requires no model output or user action. ## Verification Current head: `348e369c35c5da8bb8be378f4b35dcf6f40882e7`. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34649767113). - All 32 checks pass on this head. The two Storybook checks are skipped as expected. CI includes full build, typecheck, runner verification, browser suites, server tests and the canary package dry run. - Greptile reports 5/5 on this head. All review threads are resolved, and the security scan passes. - Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` locally. - Passed 219 native-runtime and controller tests, including fake-clock tests for three weeks of renewal and 30-day explicit timeouts. Six denial tests confirm that renewal cannot extend expired, revoked or mismatched authority. - Passed 337 executor, cancellation and restart-recovery tests, plus 278 Rust runner-core library tests. - Passed a real runner with a silent fake Codex provider across its original lease expiry. Runner PID, provider PID, thread and active turn stayed unchanged. Warm-attach recovery tests also pass. - Passed all 83 plugin-worker tests and 159 of 161 workspace-runtime tests locally. The two remaining assertions passed with a canonical macOS temporary directory, as did the changed runtime fixture. The full affected server shard passes in CI. - An unchanged GitHub callback-ordering test failed once in CI, passed locally in isolation, and passed its one test-shard retry. The final CI summary is successful. - The full local `pnpm test:run` sweep was interrupted after dependency setup failures and load-related timeouts. Identified failing suites passed in isolated reruns after the dependency repair. The complete test matrix passed remotely in CI. ## Risks - Deploy the controller and runner together to enable renewal. Older peers keep their existing bounded lease behavior. - Unlimited runtime permits long resource use until completion, explicit cancellation, configured timeout or loss of valid authority. - Lease renewal changes authenticated protocol handling. Regression tests cover stale, revoked and mismatched authority, lost replies and warm handoff behavior. - Simulated multi-week tests and a real lease-boundary test do not constitute a weeks-long production soak. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository inspection, code execution and TypeScript/Rust test tools. The exact backend revision and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(agent-login): resume an active login session and permit concurrent login terminals (#12861)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent authentication uses server sessions, plugin workers, and browser login panels. > - A page reload loses an active login session, and one worker permits only one login terminal. > - These limits cause lost work and prevent two owners from logging in through one worker. > - This pull request lets the browser resume active sessions and lets workers serve concurrent login terminals. > - The benefit is reliable login recovery with a bounded process-wide route limit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** It improves agent credential login recovery and concurrent login terminal handling. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (multiple of the above). **Current behavior** A page reload loses the active login session. A shared plugin worker rejects a second login terminal. **Proposed behavior** The browser reads and resumes the owner's active session. A worker supports multiple login terminal routes under a process-wide ceiling. **Reason and benefit** Owners keep login progress after a reload. Two owners can log in through one worker without removing the route limit. **Breaking changes** None. The change adds owner-scoped read routes and changes login terminal concurrency. ## What Changed - Replace the single worker login route with maps keyed by host route and worker session identifiers. - Add a process-wide login route ceiling and release each reserved slot on every exit path. - Add owner-scoped active-session reads with consistent negative responses and private cache control. - Keep the device-login prompt while the session has an active public status. - Add a durable setup-token cancel fallback for a lost in-memory session. - Resume active sessions when the agent configuration or onboarding panel mounts. - Remove routine unmount cancellation and keep explicit Cancel behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/server test` — server route, service, and plugin-worker-manager suites. - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/plugin-sdk test` — worker RPC host suite. - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`. - `cd ui && npx tsc -b`. - `tests/e2e/onboarding.spec.ts` — reload during login. - CI must pass on this pull request. ## Risks The change affects agent authentication and the sandbox-to-host boundary. Route cleanup must release every reserved slot. Owner checks must prevent cross-owner session access. Tests cover route cleanup, owner scope, reload recovery, and concurrent worker routes. ## Model Used Codex, OpenAI GPT-5, tool use and code review support. The implementation author owns the exact model details for the code changes. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR with the relevant issue-template fields - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries. > - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use case. > - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation. > - This pull request adds connection grants, identity rules, and their database contract. > - The benefit is durable control over which identity an agent may use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add company and user connection grants. - Add delegated identity and membership rules. - Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts. - Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in the same layer that mounts it. - Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` (5 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Incorrect grant selection could expose the wrong credential scope. - The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential use. - Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. feat(apps): add secure remote MCP and PostHog setup (#12339)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Apps give those agents governed access to external tools. > - Remote MCP setup needs secure endpoint validation and durable credentials. > - PostHog needs both browser sign-in and personal API key setup paths. > - This pull request adds the shared remote MCP foundation and the PostHog definition. > - The benefit is a secure and reusable base for later app connection work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 1 of 11. It replaces the first reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add guarded remote MCP setup and credential handling. - Add PostHog OAuth and API key connection methods. - Add focused server, shared contract, and UI coverage. - Keep the migration replay-safe and idempotent. - Give the late-close security regression the same 10-second CI headroom as the adjacent real-timer handshake test. - Synchronize fake-timer handshake tests at the exact ensure-session boundary so real filesystem setup cannot race the fake deadline. - Drive PTY overflow coverage only after listener registration so scheduling cannot reorder the test fixture. ## Verification - pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts (220 passed; affected cases also passed five focused stress repetitions) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never leaks a sandbox-provided value from a late close rejection into logs or the result"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/acpx-engine/execute.test.ts -t "never promotes a late ensureSession resolution|closes a late-resolving real handle exactly once"` (2 passed) - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Remote endpoint validation can reject configurations that previously passed without checks. - OAuth configuration errors can block setup until the operator corrects the provider settings. - The migration uses guarded statements so repeated execution is safe. - The test-only synchronization changes do not affect runtime behavior; they remove filesystem/fake-clock and listener-registration races observed under parallel CI load. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. fix(plugin-worker-manager): queue and replay pre-bind login pseudo-terminal frames (#12173)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip routes plugin worker messages to agent sessions. > - The login pseudo-terminal route opens after the host receives the open reply. > - `readline` can deliver later frames from the same pipe read before that reply continuation runs. > - The host dropped early output and exit frames. > - The fix queues valid early frames, preserves arrival order, and replays them after the route opens. > - The route uses bounded memory and closes fail-closed when a bound breaks. > - The final tests also pin child issue ordering so the serialized suite remains deterministic. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes #12122 ## What Changed - Add a bounded queue for login pseudo-terminal output and exit frames during route opening. - Validate session ids, chunk types, and per-chunk limits before queue insertion. - Bound the queue by 10,000 frames and 8 MiB of characters. - Charge retained worker session identifiers against the character bound. - Preserve arrival order and stop replay after the first valid exit. - Drop repeated exits without changing the first exit position or code. - Bound the repeat-exit lookup and clear queued state on all terminal paths. - Add regression tests and fixture support for coalesced frames, ordering, limits, cleanup, and log safety. - Pin issue numbers in the child-wake test so its expected child order remains deterministic. ## Verification - Build the plugin SDK with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk build`. - Run `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` from the repository root. - Run `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts` from the repository root. - The focused plugin worker suite passes 66 of 66 tests at the prior reviewed head. - The issue service file passes 120 of 120 tests in two isolated runs at the current head. - Confirm that GitHub Actions passes all required checks. - Confirm that Greptile reports 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - Storybook visual regression remains skipped because the PR has no `storybook-visual` label. ## Risks - The queue adds bounded memory use while the login pseudo-terminal route opens. - A queue limit breach closes the route and prevents unbounded buffering. - A hostile worker can fail only its own login route when it breaches a bound. - The first valid exit closes the route, so later records do not reach the session. - The child-wake test now uses distinct issue numbers to match the service sort contract. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, extended reasoning, tool use, and code review support. The runtime does not expose a separate context-window value. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed that this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked the existing public issue with `Fixes: #12122` - [x] I have not referenced internal Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation where needed - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All required Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved review threads - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(login): use the login pseudo-terminal for Codex device login and de-Claude the shared channel (#12020)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agent adapters use provider-specific login flows > - Codex device login needs a live pseudo-terminal (PTY), while the shared channel still uses Claude-specific names > - The old streamed-exec path does not provide the prompt transport that Codex needs > - This pull request moves Codex device login to the shared login PTY and removes the dead streamed-exec path > - The benefit is one controlled login transport with fail-closed capability checks and safer credential reads ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Codex device login used a streamed-exec path that did not provide the required prompt transport. The shared login channel also exposed Claude-specific names outside Claude code. **Expected behavior** The host selects a fixed login command from trusted adapter data. Codex login uses the provider login PTY. Providers without that capability fail closed. **Proposed solution** Use a server-controlled session home, create and validate it as a fresh 0700 directory, read credentials from one validated descriptor, and rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family. **Alternatives considered** Keep the shared login PTY as the single transport. Do not keep the removed streamed-exec path because it cannot provide the required prompt transport. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the planned login transport work. It does not add a separate roadmap item. ## What Changed - Route Codex device login through the shared login PTY transport. - Select the login command from a closed internal command key. - Carry a server-controlled session home through the launch contract. - Create and validate the session home as a fresh 0700 directory owned by the login user. - Read the credential file with descriptor-relative, no-follow path walking and final descriptor checks. - Gate the login route and run lease on the provider login PTY capability. - Rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family. - Remove the streamed-exec transport value, selector field, driver branch, and related tests. - Hide Codex login in the user interface when the provider lacks the login PTY capability. ## Verification - Server unit suites pass: 89/89. - Adapter-utils suites pass: 262/262. - Codex-local suites pass: 326/326. - Credential-read reader suite passes: 20/20. - Daytona login PTY suite passes: 30/30. - Device-login suites pass: 56/56. - TypeScript checks pass for server, adapter-utils, and UI. - GitHub Actions must pass after pull request creation. - Greptile review must reach 5/5 with no open P2 findings, recommendations, or follow-ups. ## Risks - Providers without a login PTY capability lose Codex login support by design. - The credential read rejects invalid ownership, mode, type, path, and size. - The launch-time sandbox directory race remains outside the threat model because the login runs inside the sandbox and a hostile sandbox already controls its credential. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code review assistance. The exact context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: Claude login on the new-agent page before agent creation (#11347)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The Claude local adapter supports subscription login through a sandbox > - The new-agent page must show login before the user creates an agent > - Test results must not expose raw sandbox diagnostics or secret values > - This pull request adds the login UI to both Test lanes and closes the diagnostic boundary > - The branch also adds durable cleanup recovery for failed sandbox teardown > - Reusable sandboxes must retain both their recorded teardown configuration and a valid lifecycle path until destruction succeeds > - The benefit is a usable login flow with fixed public checks, redacted server logs, and recoverable sandbox cleanup ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related public work: [#9488](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9488) adds first-class recognition for `CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN` in headless and remote runs. Related public issue: [#2681](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/issues/2681) requests Claude Code subscription support. This pull request adds the login transport and new-agent UI flow that those changes do not provide. **Subsystem affected:** Claude local adapter, server login probes, sandbox provider setup, cleanup recovery, and the new-agent UI. **Problem or motivation:** The Test lanes did not show the sandbox login panel in all supported cases. Test results also exposed raw probe diagnostics, and JSON escapes could end secret redaction early. **Proposed solution:** Surface the login capability through the bundled provider manifest. Prepare the same probe runtime in the ACP lane. Send diagnostics only to redacted server logs. Keep Test checks on fixed public messages. Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude and Anthropic hosts. Consume JSON escapes during redaction. Preserve failed sandbox cleanup state across retries and restarts, and prevent deletion from severing the lifecycle context of a live reusable sandbox. **Alternatives considered:** Keep raw diagnostics in Test checks or trust login URL text from the sandbox. Both choices increase information exposure. Keep separate probe behavior in the ACP lane. That choice would leave the two Test lanes inconsistent. ## What Changed - Surface the sandbox login panel on both Test lanes. - Reconcile the bundled Daytona plugin manifest so `supportsSetupTokenLogin` reaches the UI capability gate. - Prepare the ACP Test lane with the same probe runtime as the CLI Test lane. - Add the `claude_acp_login_probe_unavailable` warning when the ACP probe cannot run. - Send raw sandbox diagnostics only to redacted server logs. - Keep Test checks on fixed public messages in the ACP, managed-config, and CLI paths. - Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude and Anthropic hosts. - Redact JSON and escaped-JSON secret values, including escaped quotes and backslashes. - Preserve orphan cleanup records across provider failures, restarts, and unavailable plugins. - Atomically block environment deletion while a live reusable sandbox lease still depends on it. - Verify pending cleanup destroys plugin sandboxes with the provider configuration recorded on the lease, even after the current environment configuration changes. ## Verification - Head under review: `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241`. - Focused environment route/service/runtime coverage passes: 196 tests across 3 files. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. - `pnpm build` passes. - The full Vitest run completed with 4,754 passing and 28 failing tests. All 23 source-test failures reproduce unchanged on parent head `58cfe61a33191ce03d965d65085d26064b4888ba`; the other 5 are duplicate executions from stale `server/dist` output. The failures are unrelated macOS path/listener and scheduler-fixture failures, so there is no new bad commit for bisect to localize. - All required CI checks pass for the current head, including build, typecheck/release registry, all server and workspace shards, serialized server suites, canary, and e2e. - A fresh Greptile review for `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241` reports 5/5, “safe to merge,” with no blocking failure remaining. ## Risks - A probe or redaction change could hide useful server diagnostics. - An allowlist change could reject a valid Claude login URL. - Cleanup recovery changes could affect provider teardown ordering. - An environment with a live reusable sandbox can no longer be deleted until the owning issue or execution workspace completes teardown. - The implementation keeps public Test messages fixed and sends detail to redacted server logs. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex — exact model ID: GPT-5; tool use and code execution enabled; extended reasoning enabled. The implementation author used AI-assisted development. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and documented the result - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation or confirmed no separate documentation change is needed - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(acp): stream Daytona sandbox agent output and remove the host output poll (#11049)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app that manages AI agents for work > - Sandbox providers let agents run in remote and isolated environments > - Daytona session commands need a path that sends agent output to the host without host polling > - Host polling adds delay and repeats provider output work > - This pull request adds typed execute.log notifications and a log sink for incremental output > - This pull request adds an optional ACP session stream with final-result replay protection > - The benefit is lower output delay while the default flags keep current behavior unchanged ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. The change spans the plugin SDK, Daytona provider, adapter utilities, and server execution services. **Problem or motivation** The Daytona ACP bridge polls a host output file while an agent command runs. This adds delay and can repeat work. The host also needs a safe route for provider output chunks. **Proposed solution** Add a typed `execute.log` notification with host-issued invocation correlation. Add an ordered log sink to the environment execute path. Add an optional ACP session-log path that parses newline-delimited JSON frames and removes the host output poll for that path. **Alternatives considered** Keep the output-file poll as the only path. This keeps the current behavior but does not provide timely output. The new path stays behind flags, so the existing path remains the default fallback. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the shipped Cloud / Sandbox agents milestone in `ROADMAP.md`, including Daytona support. ## What Changed - Add the typed `execute.log` worker-to-host notification and company-scoped host route. - Add ordered `stdout` and `stderr` chunk delivery before the final execute result. - Add the Daytona session log sink and the optional ACP streamed session path. - Add monotonic frame handling so live and final output reach the host once. - Keep `useLogStream` and `streamAgentSessionOutput` off by default. - Add unit and integration coverage for the notification, execution target, runtime, and Daytona paths. ## Verification - Run adapter-utils tests: 445 tests pass locally. - Run server environment tests: 73 tests pass locally. - Run Daytona plugin tests: 131 tests pass locally. - Run TypeScript checks for shared, adapter-utils, and server. - Review the pull request checks after GitHub completes them. - All required GitHub checks pass on the current head. ## Risks The new paths change output delivery only when a feature flag enables them. The final execute result remains available for parsing and fallback. The main risk is a provider stream or frame-order error; the final-result parser limits that risk. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code execution. The runtime did not supply a context-window value. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes No operator documentation change applies because both new flags remain disabled by default. - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): honor explicit plugin RPC timeouts (#10460)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Plugin workers connect Paperclip to external runtimes and sandbox
providers.
> - Some adapter heartbeats run a full sandbox session inside one
`environmentExecute` RPC.
> - The worker manager limited every RPC timeout to 15 minutes, even
when the caller gave a longer timeout.
> - This pull request keeps the normal default timeout behavior but
honors explicit caller timeouts.
> - The benefit is that long sandboxed agent sessions can continue past
15 minutes while other safety guards still bound hung work.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public GitHub issue exists for this bug.
### Bug Report
Pre-submission checklist:
- Searched existing open and closed issues and did not find a duplicate.
- Confirmed the bug is reproducible on `master` from the current source
tree.
- Confirmed the error starts in Paperclip timeout handling, not in an
adapter provider or local configuration.
What happened?
- A sandbox-backed adapter heartbeat can run a full agent session inside
one `environmentExecute` plugin RPC.
- The plugin worker manager capped every RPC timeout at 15 minutes.
- The cap also applied when the caller passed a longer explicit timeout
for an execute-style call.
- A long sandbox command could fail before the adapter budget expired.
Expected behavior:
- Ordinary plugin RPC calls should keep the normal 30-second default
timeout.
- The default timeout path should still have a 15-minute maximum.
- A caller-supplied positive finite timeout should be honored, including
values above 15 minutes.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Use a plugin environment driver that calls `environmentExecute` with
an explicit timeout above 15 minutes.
2. Run a command that stays active longer than 15 minutes and remains
inside the adapter budget.
3. Observe that the worker manager times out the RPC at 15 minutes
before this fix.
4. Run the same path after this fix and observe that the explicit
timeout is used.
Paperclip version or commit:
- Reproduced from the current `master` line before this change.
Deployment mode:
- Local dev or self-hosted server with sandbox-backed execution.
Installation method:
- Built from source.
Agent adapter(s) involved:
- Codex.
- Custom or external plugin adapter.
- Core plugin worker timeout handling.
Database mode:
- Not database-related.
Access context:
- Agent execution context.
Node.js version:
- Not version-specific.
Operating system:
- Not OS-specific.
Relevant logs or output:
```shell
RPC call "environmentExecute" timed out after 900000ms
```
Relevant config:
- Not config-related.
Additional context:
- Execute-style sandbox calls already have adapter inactivity monitors,
platform silent-run checks, and provider command timeouts. This PR
removes the unintended worker-manager clamp only for explicit positive
finite caller timeouts.
Privacy checklist:
- Reviewed all pasted output for PII, user paths, API keys, tokens,
company names, and internal instance links.
Duplicate search:
- Searched open PRs and open issues in `paperclipai/paperclip` for
`environmentExecute timeout`, `MAX_RPC_TIMEOUT_MS`, and
`plugin-worker-manager timeout`.
- Searched the same terms in `HenkDz/paperclip`.
- Found no matching open PRs or issues.
- Compared this patch-id against my open PRs in `paperclipai/paperclip`;
no match was found.
## What Changed
- Added `resolveRpcCallTimeoutMs()` to keep explicit positive finite
timeouts intact.
- Kept the 15-minute maximum only for the default timeout path.
- Updated `callInternal()` to use the new resolver.
- Added unit tests for explicit long timeouts, default timeout clamping,
fractional values, and invalid explicit values.
- Clarified why notification invocation scopes still use the 15-minute
TTL.
## Verification
- `corepack pnpm install --frozen-lockfile`
- `corepack pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk ensure-build-deps`
- `corepack pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts`
- `corepack pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsc --noEmit`
- `git diff --check

fix(plugins): seed proactive company scopes before worker setup() + events.subscribe resolver parity (LOOA-695) (#10113)
- [x] I searched the GitHub PR list for similar PRs (dedup search). No open PR touches the proactive `events.subscribe` ordering path; #10103 (merged) is the predecessor whose ordering bug this fixes. ## Thinking Path The gateway worker's outbound push path is permanently dead (`eventSubscriptions: 0`, `notifier.received: 0`, `decisions.delivered: 0`). The plugin loader authorizes the worker's **proactive company scopes only AFTER `startWorker` resolves**, but a proactive plugin issues its one-shot `events.subscribe` calls from `setup()` — which runs *while `startWorker` is still awaiting the worker's initialize response*. So at subscribe time `proactiveCompanyScopes` is still empty → `contextForWorkerMessage` resolves no scope → the governed-access gate rejects every subscribe with `company context is required`. The gateway subscribes once and never retries, so `eventSubscriptions` stays 0 for the worker's life. This is an **ordering bug in the #10103 fix**, not a new method — same #9557 governed-access class as `config.get` (#10092) and `state.get` (#10103). Confirmed live at the 18:21:21Z worker respawn on `3093c5e` (host log), and again at the 19:01:04Z restart (still `events.subscribe: company context is required`, `eventSubscriptions:0`). ## What Changed 1. **Loader ordering** (`plugin-loader.ts`): load `registry.listConfigs(pluginId)` in a new step 4b **before** `startWorker`, and thread the configured company set into `WorkerStartOptions.proactiveCompanyScopes` so the worker handle is authorized *before the child process issues any host call*. The same rows are reused for startup config delivery (step 5b) — no second `listConfigs` round-trip. The runtime config-change path (`routes/plugins.ts`) still refreshes scopes via `setProactiveCompanyScopes` (unchanged). 2. **Handle seed** (`plugin-worker-manager.ts`): `createPluginWorkerHandle` seeds its `proactiveCompanyScopes` set from options at creation, before spawn. 3. **Resolver/gate parity** (`plugin-worker-manager.ts`): `referencedCompanyId(method, params)` now mirrors the SDK gate `requestedCompanyScope` exactly in the functional direction — adds `events.subscribe → params.filter.companyId` (how `ctx.events.on(name, { companyId }, fn)` issues its subscribe), and declines the gate's wildcard cases (`companies.list`, `scopeKind:"company"` without `scopeId`) so proactive access only ever grants a **single explicit configured company, never "all"**. Answers LOOA-693 AC#4 (host/gate extraction parity) in the functional direction. ## Tests New `plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` cases (drive a real worker): - a `setup()`-time `events.subscribe({ filter: { companyId } })` for an options-seeded company is **admitted** (fails on prior code — no options seed, no filter parity); - an unconfigured company stays **denied**; - an unseeded worker stays **denied**. Full `plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` suite: **21 passed**. Server `tsc --noEmit`: clean. All PR CI green (typecheck, server/workspace suites, e2e, build, security scans). ## Risks - **Scope-widening risk (primary).** The change grants proactive host access keyed off configured company rows. Mitigated by: the authorized set is exactly `registry.listConfigs(pluginId).map(companyId)`; wildcard cases (`companies.list`, company-scoped key without `scopeId`) resolve to `null`, never `{ kind: all }`; empty/whitespace ids dropped; an empty config set grants zero proactive access. This is the surface SecurityEngineer must sign off (see Security gate). - **In-invocation path unchanged.** Calls carrying a host-issued `paperclipInvocationId` keep the existing strict single-company match; the proactive branch only applies when there is no invocation id — so no regression to the enforced request path. - **Blast radius.** Loader step 4b is best-effort: a `listConfigs` failure logs and proceeds with an empty seed (fails closed — no push, not a crash), matching today's behavior. ## Model Used Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`) via Claude Code (agent: CTO). ## Security gate Touches the company-scope resolution path (same surface as #10103). Routed through **SecurityEngineer review before merge** (tracked on LOOA-696) — must not widen beyond configured companies; in-invocation strict single-company match untouched; wildcard cases deliberately declined in the proactive direction. ## Verification once live - Host log clean of `events.subscribe: company context is required` at worker start - loader logs `eventSubscriptions: N>0` - beat `notifier.received` / `decisions.delivered` move on real issue/approval activity Parent: LOOA-629 (outbound push half of "gateway active"). fix(plugin-worker): resolve a company scope for proactive worker→host calls (#10103)
Host authorizes the plugin's configured companies as the worker's proactive scopes, set by the loader right after the #10092 config-delivery step and refreshed on operator config-save. At the single worker→host chokepoint, a no-invocation call (notifier drain, decision reconcile, mirror drain, digest, aging, liveness beat) that references a configured company resolves to that company's scope, so the #9557 governed-access gate admits it. One change covers the full proactive surface (state.*, issues.*, approvals.*, config.get, secrets.resolve, etc.). Safety: never widens beyond configured companies (any other company stays denied); in-invocation calls keep #9557's strict single-company match untouched. Fixes the Slack gateway DM round-trip for LOOA-629. Security review PASS (LOOA-693); non-blocking LOW follow-up tracked in LOOA-694. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(mcp) [split 4/8]: wire gateway runtime and Smoke Lab (#9559)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 4/8 and focuses on gateway runtime, Smoke Lab, plugins, and server wiring > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: The policy core needs runtime execution, endpoint guards, route registration, heartbeat integration, and adapter MCP injection to become operational. - Proposed solution: Adds the remaining server routes/wiring/consumers, runtime tests, adapter-utils MCP contracts, and Claude/Codex injection implementations required by the server layer. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/03-server-tool-access`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: SecurityEngineer for gateway, endpoint guard, token issuance, and runtime wiring; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds the remaining server routes/wiring/consumers, runtime tests, adapter-utils MCP contracts, and Claude/Codex injection implementations required by the server layer. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - Changed server test set — 26 files, 382 tests passed - Affected server adapter tests — 38 tests passed after concrete adapter boundary move - Adapter-utils and Codex focused tests — 76 tests passed ## Risks - Remote endpoint validation, token handling, and runtime supervision are security-sensitive and can fail closed or deny legitimate access if misconfigured. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. [codex] Harden plugin runtime invocation scope (#6547)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI-agent companies through a company-scoped control plane. > - Plugins extend that control plane, but plugin workers still call back into host APIs. > - Those worker-to-host calls need the same company boundary guarantees as normal API routes. > - Plugin action handlers also need authenticated actor context from the host instead of trusting caller-supplied params. > - This pull request hardens plugin bridge/action scope and keeps plugin operation issues out of normal issue surfaces. > - The benefit is safer plugin execution with clearer authorization boundaries and better test coverage. ## What Changed - Added host-owned invocation context plumbing for nested plugin worker calls. - Added actor context to plugin `performAction` calls and test harness helpers. - Enforced company invocation scope on worker-to-host calls and filtered company lists to the active invocation scope. - Extended plugin action route tests for board and agent actor context, spoofed company params, and cross-company rejection. - Extended plugin worker manager coverage for invocation-scope propagation. - Filtered typed and legacy plugin operation issue origins from default issue/inbox lists. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk build` - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run packages/plugins/sdk/tests/host-client-factory.test.ts packages/plugins/sdk/tests/testing-actions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts` Note: embedded Postgres issue-service tests reported host-level Postgres init skip for 47 tests; the non-embedded targeted tests passed. ## Risks - Medium: plugin host authorization paths are sensitive, and external plugins may rely on previously loose company params. - Mitigation: the change only tightens calls when the host attached a company invocation scope and includes explicit tests for board, agent, and nested worker calls. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] Add agent permissions and controls plan (#6386)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies by keeping task ownership, approvals, and operator control inside one control plane. > - Agent permissions and plugin-hosted company settings sit on the boundary between autonomy and governance. > - V1 needs scoped task assignment rules, plugin extension points, and clearer company access surfaces without weakening company boundaries. > - The branch builds the core authorization service, plugin SDK/host APIs, and UI simplifications needed to support those controls. > - Paperclip EE plugin surfaces were intentionally moved out of this core PR per review direction, so this PR now carries only the public core/plugin infrastructure work. > - The latest updates preserve the PAP-9937 branch changes that belong in this PR, remove the `design/` artifacts, and exclude the experimental `plugin-briefs` package. > - Greptile feedback was applied through the authorization/audit paths and the final cleanup commit was re-reviewed at 5/5 with no unresolved Greptile threads. > - The benefit is safer assignment control with extension hooks for richer permission products while preserving simple defaults for normal operators. ## What Changed - Added scoped task-assignment authorization decisions and routed issue/agent assignment mutations through the authorization service. - Added plugin SDK and host APIs for company settings slots, authorization policy/grant management, assignment previews, and bridge invocation scope propagation. - Simplified core company access UI and moved advanced controls behind plugin-provided settings surfaces. - Added retry-now affordances for blocked issue next-step notices. - Added protected-assignment enforcement for persisted agent/project/issue policies, including explicit-grant fallback behavior. - Added incremental principal-access compatibility backfill for active agent memberships and role-default human permission grants. - Added the Markdown code block wrap action fix from the latest branch changes. - Removed `design/` artifacts from the PR and removed `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs` from the final diff. - Addressed Greptile feedback for plugin actor sanitization, legacy membership handling, audit pagination, unknown grant-scope metadata, and startup test mocks. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 2 files passed, 54 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 62 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-access-authorization-host-services.test.ts server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 28 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` -> passed. - `git diff --check` -> passed. - `node ./scripts/check-docker-deps-stage.mjs` -> passed. - `CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` -> passed with no lockfile update. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.interaction.test.tsx` -> 1 test passed. - `git ls-files design packages/plugins/plugin-briefs | wc -l` -> 0. - GitHub CI on `40cd83b53` -> all checks passed, merge state `CLEAN`. - Greptile on `40cd83b53` -> 5/5, 102 files reviewed, 0 comments/annotations added, 0 unresolved review threads. - Confirmed the PR diff contains no `design/`, `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs`, `pnpm-lock.yaml`, or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Medium: task assignment authorization paths are behaviorally stricter for protected/private policy data, so existing plugin-authored policies may block assignment until explicit grants or approval flows are configured. - Medium: plugin-host authorization APIs expand the surface area available to trusted plugins and need careful review for company scoping. - Low: startup now performs a principal-access compatibility backfill, but the migration and runtime backfill use conflict-tolerant inserts. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Harden remote sandbox runtime probes, timeouts, and installs (#5685)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Each agent runs inside a sandbox environment so its CLI is isolated from the host > - Sandbox-backed adapter runs go through a small set of shared helpers — `ensureAdapterExecutionTargetCommandResolvable`, the sandbox callback bridge runner, and per-adapter `SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND` strings > - When standing up new sandbox provider plugins, the existing helpers timed out, missed install fallbacks, or leaned on assumptions that only held for E2B > - Local adapters (`claude-local`, `codex-local`, `gemini-local`, `opencode-local`) needed slightly hardened probes so they could install themselves and validate inside *any* remote sandbox transport, not just E2B > - This pull request bundles those runtime fixes so future sandbox provider plugins inherit a working baseline > - The benefit is that adding a new sandbox provider plugin no longer requires touching adapter-utils or each local-adapter probe — the supporting infra is already correct ## What Changed - `packages/adapter-utils/src/execution-target.ts`: introduce `DEFAULT_REMOTE_SANDBOX_ADAPTER_TIMEOUT_SEC = 1800` and `resolveAdapterExecutionTargetTimeoutSec(...)`. Local and SSH adapters keep the historical "0 means no adapter timeout" behavior; sandbox-backed runs without an explicit `timeoutSec` get an explicit 30-minute default so remote installs and warm-up don't time out at the per-RPC default. Plumbed `timeoutSec` through `ensureAdapterExecutionTargetCommandResolvable` so install probes inside a sandbox honor adapter-level overrides instead of the bridge's 5-minute default. - `packages/adapters/opencode-local/src/index.ts`: switch `SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND` from `npm install -g opencode-ai` to `curl -fsSL https://opencode.ai/install | bash`. The npm package reifies four large prebuilt-binary subpackages in parallel even though only one matches the host arch; on bandwidth-constrained sandboxes that blew through the 240s install budget. The official installer fetches one arch-specific binary and adds `$HOME/.opencode/bin` to PATH via `~/.bashrc`, which the sandbox-callback-bridge login-shell script already sources. - `packages/adapters/{claude,codex,gemini,opencode}-local/`: harden remote-target probes — pass `--skip-git-repo-check` for Codex when probing outside a repo, normalize permission flags for Claude, and add `*.remote.test.ts` coverage that exercises the remote-sandbox path explicitly for each adapter. - `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-install-command.{ts,test.ts}` (new): add `buildSandboxNpmInstallCommand` helper. `server/src/adapters/registry.ts` + new `server/src/__tests__/adapter-registry.test.ts`: wire adapter install commands so they fall back to a writable `$HOME/.local` prefix when global install isn't available. - `server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` + new `server/src/__tests__/fixtures/plugin-worker-delayed.cjs`: pin per-call timeout overrides so plugin worker exec calls honor the caller's timeout instead of the worker's default. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage packages/adapter-utils/src/execution-target-sandbox.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-install-command.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts server/src/__tests__/adapter-registry.test.ts server/src/__tests__/claude-local-adapter-environment.test.ts server/src/__tests__/claude-local-execute.test.ts server/src/__tests__/gemini-local-adapter-environment.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.remote.test.ts packages/adapters/opencode-local/src/server/test.remote.test.ts packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/codex-args.test.ts packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/execute.remote.test.ts packages/adapters/gemini-local/src/server/execute.remote.test.ts` All passing locally. ## Risks - Touches shared `adapter-utils` and several `*-local` adapters. The 30-minute default applies only when both (a) the target is `remote+sandbox` and (b) no `timeoutSec` is configured — local + SSH paths are unchanged. New test coverage was added alongside each behavior change to pin the contracts. - Switching OpenCode's install command to the official installer is a behavior change for any operator running OpenCode inside a remote sandbox. Local installs are unaffected (the `SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND` only runs when an adapter is being installed inside a sandbox). - Low risk overall — no migrations, no API surface change. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic - Model: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) - Capabilities used: extended reasoning, tool use (Read/Edit/Bash/Grep), no code execution beyond local repo commands ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots — N/A, no UI change - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Stabilize runtime probes and Codex env tests (#5445)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Adapters expose a Test action that probes the configured runtime —
install, resolvability, hello — to give operators a fast yes/no on
whether an environment is healthy
> - The Codex test path was running its hello probe directly without
going through the managed-runtime preparation that production runs use,
so a healthy production setup could still report a probe failure
> - The plugin worker manager wasn't surfacing terminated workers
cleanly, leaving the runtime probe waiting on a dead worker until the
request timed out
> - This pull request routes the Codex test probe through
`prepareAdapterExecutionTargetRuntime` (so it sees the same managed
Codex home production sees), exposes `commandCwd` on
`createCommandManagedRuntimeClient` so callers can target a per-probe
directory without leaking the workspace `remoteCwd`, and propagates
plugin-worker termination as a usable error instead of a hang
> - The benefit is the Codex Test action mirrors production behavior
end-to-end, and probes against a terminated plugin worker fail fast
instead of timing out
## What Changed
- `packages/adapter-utils/src/command-managed-runtime.ts`: rename the
`remoteCwd` knob to `commandCwd` so callers can target a per-probe
directory without inheriting the workspace cwd; matching test coverage
in `command-managed-runtime.test.ts`
- `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.{ts,test.ts}`:
small fixes to keep callback bridge stop semantics deterministic
- `packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.ts`: thread the Codex
hello probe through `prepareAdapterExecutionTargetRuntime` +
`prepareManagedCodexHome` so the probe sees the same managed home
production sees; new `test.remote.test.ts` covers the remote probe path
- `packages/adapters/cursor-local/src/server/execute.ts`: small
probe-side cleanup that aligns with the new commandCwd contract
- `server/src/services/plugin-worker-manager.ts`: surface plugin-worker
termination as a structured error so callers fail fast; new
`plugin-worker-terminated.cjs` fixture and
`plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` cases pin the behavior
## Verification
- `pnpm vitest run --no-coverage --project @paperclipai/adapter-utils
--project @paperclipai/adapter-codex-local --project
@paperclipai/adapter-cursor-local --project @paperclipai/server` —
1749/1750 passing (1 unrelated skip)
- `pnpm typecheck` clean
## Risks
Low–medium. The `remoteCwd → commandCwd` rename is a parameter renaming
on an internal helper used only by adapter test/execute paths in this
repo. The plugin-worker-terminated path was previously a hang; failing
fast may surface latent timeouts as explicit termination errors in
callers that already expected them.
