fix(tasks): hide empty message history disclosure (#17751)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - Each task page shows the instruction and saved conversation. > - Cold opens show recent content before older history. > - The page used any linked run as evidence of older messages. > - A task's first run therefore showed an empty More messages control. > - This PR shows the control only when the preview omits comments or runs. > - Fresh tasks stay clear, and older task history remains available. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #17593. **What happened?** A fresh task with only its first run displayed More messages, even though there was no earlier history to load. **Expected behavior** Show More messages only when older comments or runs are omitted. Runs observed while the page stays open must not create a false disclosure. The output control also uses actual skipped bytes, so a growing run does not gain an empty output control. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a task and let its first run start or finish. 2. Open that task with a fresh application cache. 3. Observe the empty More messages control below its instruction. ## What Changed - Keep omitted-run evidence with the cached recent run window. - Use omitted comments or runs to decide whether to show More messages. - Preserve run retention, reconnect reconciliation, and expansion of real history. - Offer More run output when a single legacy log exceeds the compact byte window. - Keep first-run native diagnostics accessible through More task actions → Show task activity. - Add regression coverage and update the task feature map. ## Verification - Passed the existing 9,168-test UI suite across 794 files, then all 504 focused task-detail, history-window, real thread, and log-transport tests after adding the activity-menu regression. - Passed workspace build, workspace typechecks, token gates, and map checks. - Reproduced the bug in the earlier UI using a disposable local task. The corrected UI hides the control with zero runs or only the first run. - In the local browser, expanded a long task to all 80 comments. The latest answer appeared once and the disclosure disappeared. No console warnings or errors occurred in that journey. - Expanded a saved 111 KB legacy log through More run output and opened its earlier activity in the local browser. - On a single saved native run, verified no More messages control. Used Show task activity to reveal its earlier tool output; the latest answer remained visible exactly once, with no console warnings or errors. - The first broad local run stopped because the fresh dependency install lacked PostgreSQL library symlinks. The normal package setup repaired that environment issue. - The next broad run hit one workspace-runtime timeout. Its focused rerun passed with unchanged server source; the original failure remains recorded. Stopped the already-failed broad runner after the previous revision passed full PR CI. All final-head build, typecheck, test, and policy CI jobs passed. Both automated reviewers scored the final head 5/5, with no unresolved threads. The separate Entire Gates check is pending because the PR has no active assessed Change for its current comparison. The installed Entire CLI reports no linked project trail and exposes no Change-assessment command; no gate or repository settings were altered. Browser verification used this branch's UI with the existing disposable test-drive API. No agent execution was started. ## Risks Low risk. This changes the recent run cache shape and the disclosure condition. The full run cache remains an array. Tests cover first-run states, observed new runs, omitted older runs, expansion, and reconnect reconciliation. No schema or API changes. A separate run-output control preserves access to a single truncated legacy log. The task menu preserves first-run native activity access without implying older messages exist. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with code execution and browser tools. A more specific model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): keep iPhone task chat stable while typing and streaming (#17232)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip keeps human-agent conversations attached to tasks. > - People need to read and reply comfortably from a phone. > - The mobile task page scrolled the document and positioned its composer with a sticky navigation offset. > - Safari's keyboard resize and later focus pan could move that document again, causing overlap, gaps, and jumps while editing. > - This change gives mobile and desktop the same message scroller and a normal flex footer. > - CSS owns the layout. A small VisualViewport adapter handles the visible height and Safari's stale document focus scroll. > - Streaming no longer measures every historical row while following the bottom. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/issues/16497 Related: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15245 also addresses keyboard positioning. This change additionally removes mobile document auto-follow and reduces historical-row measurement work. ## What Changed ### One scroll owner and a natural-flow composer Before: ```text Document scroll + mobile auto-follow └─ Conversation + sticky composer + animated navigation offset ``` After: ```text Height-constrained conversation shell ├─ Header ├─ Message scroller — owns follow/reading position └─ Composer — normal flex footer Navigation stays at the layout viewport bottom, behind the keyboard ``` - Reuse TaskMessageScroller on mobile. Delete the separate 136-line useWindowAutoFollow implementation and its superseded tests. - Keep the composer in normal flex flow. Remove its sticky bottom positioning and navigation-offset animation. - Constrain the mobile conversation with CSS. Classic tasks and other pages retain their existing layout. - Add a 47-line useMobileVisualViewport hook. It changes shell height on resize, not on typing or incoming messages. It never translates the shell or hides navigation. - Reject Safari's stale document focus pan only for an unzoomed, keyboard-open conversation. Inner message and editor scrolling stay native. - Keep a saved reading anchor when reading older messages. Skip historical-row measurements while following the bottom. - Update tests and the existing mobile streaming fixture. Keep only two layout-contract sentences in DESIGN.md. **Scope:** 19 files, +367 / -482 lines: 115 fewer lines overall. Production UI/CSS alone is +158 / -190 lines. No API, database, or dependency changes. ## Verification Bottom-follow is also saved explicitly for Back navigation. A new regression covers returning after rotation changes message wrapping, without restoring historical-row scans. ### Physical iPhone acceptance Tested on an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 26.7.1. The reporter confirmed: - Opening the keyboard positions the composer correctly immediately, before any typing. - The installed web app works. - Long drafts, insertion, deletion, and sending are acceptable. The reporter described long drafts as not perfect but good enough. - Reading older messages during incoming output preserves position; returning to the bottom resumes following. - Rotation, keyboard close/reopen, and attachment/picker transitions work. Remote inspection corroborated the corrected open-keyboard state: visible height 358px, composer bottom 358px, document scrollY 0. Navigation remained display:block at y=631px, behind the keyboard. Earlier candidates failed device testing. The decisive trace showed a correct viewport resize followed about one frame later by a stale 337px native document focus pan. Typing caused Safari to correct it. Tests now cover that event ordering, the reverse ordering, and zoom panning. ### Performance evidence The existing TaskChatPerfHarness supplied 200 historical responses, 4,000 collapsed tools, and 30 updates at 100ms intervals. | Measurement | Before | After | | --- | ---: | ---: | | Historical row geometry reads | 6,000 | 0 | | Renderer main-thread work | 331.2ms | 273.5ms | | Largest task | 27.1ms | 12.3ms | This is one instrumented Chromium development run on the Mac, not a phone benchmark or a statistical speedup claim. The zero-row-measurement result also has a regression test that failed with 6,000 reads before the change. To reproduce, serve ui/tests/task-chat-perf.html with the UI Vite server. Record 30 streaming updates at the bottom. Inspect TaskMessageScroller and row getBoundingClientRect calls. Existing historical-render tests also confirm that unchanged Markdown does not reparse on live-tail updates. ### Automated and full-app checks - [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39862524031) is green: 54 successful checks and 2 skipped checks. Greptile rates the current head 5/5, confirms the Back-navigation fix, and has no unresolved findings. - **601 focused tests pass** across the task page, layout, composer, scroller, viewport adapter, and historical-render coverage. - UI typecheck and production build pass. - Token gates, Storybook catalog checks, and catalog/map structural tests pass. - Independent review of the final source tree passed with no findings. - The full source app ran on macOS with an isolated database and saved conversation history. A reply sent through the real UI persisted after reload. Provider execution was not part of this layout test. - **Full local repository checks did not pass.** Build/typecheck stop at missing Rust cargo. The full test run reported 142 failed server tests and 3 failed suites; missing cargo is confirmed in those three suites. The other server failures were not diagnosed in this UI task. Current-head CI now supplies the repository-wide evidence; these local failures remain disclosed. ## Risks - Mobile conversations now share the desktop scroll owner. Navigation, loading, history restoration, and reading-position tests cover that change. - The keyboard-state threshold is a 120px viewport reduction. Accessory-only keyboards retain the normal navigation spacing. - The document-scroll fallback is scoped to rendered conversations with an open keyboard at scale 1. It does not handle inner scrolling or prevent zoom panning. - Long-draft behavior is accepted, with minor polish still possible. - The UI change is reversible and requires no data migration. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 Astra, exact model ID gpt-6-astra, through OpenCode. Capabilities used: reasoning, code editing, tests, Chromium performance tracing, and Safari remote inspection. The harness does not expose the context-window size. An independent general-purpose subagent reviewed the final tree; its serving model ID was not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes / Closes / Refs OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass; repository-wide failures are disclosed above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

perf(tasks): show recent conversation before historical activity (#17593)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - A task page must show the instruction and current conversation
quickly.
> - The current page waits for related task data and historical run
transcripts.
> - These reads grow with task history, even when the reader only needs
the latest answer.
> - This pull request gives cold opens a small initial view and loads
older history on demand.
> - Messages and runs observed while the page stays open remain visible.
> - The benefit is a readable task before historical diagnostics finish
loading.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Related: #14667 and #16229. The first changes the reveal gate and scroll
anchors. The second adds general history pagination. This PR adds a core
task read and a folded recent-conversation view. It preserves the
default full-read API contracts. The shared files will need coordination
if either related PR lands first.
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
Cold opening an ordinary task with a long conversation or large run
logs.
**Current behavior**
Task enrichment and historical transcripts delay the readable
conversation. A cold open can fetch several megabytes of tool activity
before revealing saved messages.
**Proposed behavior**
Show the task instruction, recent saved replies, latest human input, and
the latest run's conversation data first. Fetch older messages and full
run activity when the reader chooses **More messages**. Retain new
messages while the page stays open.
## What Changed
- Add an authorized core issue view that skips related enrichment. Keep
enrichment on the existing detail read. Share task mutation, rollback
and invalidation updates with the core cache.
- Add a bounded recent-comment read. Preserve the first human
instruction when no description exists, including legacy rows with a
NULL author type. Keep company and task access checks and comment
redaction.
- Add optional recent activity and run-summary views. Fetch original
input receipts for visible comments separately so delivered messages
stay out of the queue. Reconcile watched unfinished runs after a
reconnect beyond the preview window, removing deleted runs after
reconciliation.
- Filter the latest native run's initial events to assistant messages,
request lifecycles and terminal results. Full event reads remain
available on expansion. Legacy fallback reads use a small tail extended
to the first complete record. HTTP cancellation aborts the storage read.
- Retain observed messages across cursor catch-up and new runs. Apply
local cancellation and deletion to both caches and their task aliases.
Refetch locally seeded history pages on expansion. Preserve expansion
across identifier and UUID links. Keep deep links, classic tasks and
Agent Chat on their existing full-history path.
- Update API documentation, design guidance, capability maps and
regression coverage.
## Verification
- Final acceptance on `9ea0b15ae44d9f6d2c9a9f824b4835f299f92979`: all CI
gates passed, including server/UI tests, all eight browser shards,
runner checks, full typecheck and build. [Final CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40326990328).
GitHub reports 55 successful checks, two intentionally skipped checks,
and one neutral Paperclip Review check described below. No checks are
pending or failed; Greptile is 5/5 and no review threads remain open.
- October 26 merge update: merged current `master`. The only conflict
was in task-page imports; both the compact-history hook and the new
live-update hooks remain. All CI tests and build jobs passed on
`044fd6733d`. Fresh review found canceled-comment cache drift, legacy
human-comment filtering, send-then-expand truncation, and partial legacy
log records. These defects were fixed in `af3d66a5bd`.
- Review-fix verification: 470 tests pass across ten affected suites,
including all six PostgreSQL cold-open tests without a helper override.
Cancellation/delete and send-then-expand regression tests failed before
the fixes and pass afterward. Coverage includes task identifier/UUID
reopen, stale in-flight reads, legacy NULL author types, local-file and
object-storage tails cut inside UTF-8 text, route forwarding, and
request cancellation. Full workspace typecheck and production build,
token gates, map validation and diff checks pass.
- Follow-up review found that a failed expanded legacy read lost its
record-alignment state on retry. `9ea0b15ae4` commits the expanded
window only after a successful read. The new regression fails before the
fix and passes afterward; all 19 transcript tests, UI typecheck, UI
build and token gates pass. Greptile reviewed this commit at 5/5 with no
actionable findings, and all review threads are resolved.
- The final Paperclip Review check ended neutral because its execution
did not complete; no passing Paperclip assessment is claimed. Its
earlier four concrete findings were fixed and regression-tested.
Greptile and the security scans completed successfully on the final
commit.
- The preceding `af3d66a5bd` CI run was canceled when superseded by the
retry fix. Its server shard 11 check briefly reported failure, but the
job API records cancellation and its test step passed all 1,750 tests.
This superseded run is not used as final CI acceptance.
- 549 focused tests pass on the final implementation across nine task
UI, activity-route, OpenAPI and PostgreSQL suites. These cover pending
history, desktop/mobile visibility, expansion, retained runs, message
bursts, cancellation recovery and queued-comment removal in both views.
- Legacy expansion keeps the latest answer visible while fetching and
deduplicating older output.
- Five PostgreSQL tests pass for core access denial, recent comments,
missing-description instructions, event paging and bounded activity/run
reads. macOS could not start another PostgreSQL cluster because it
exhausted its semaphore limit. These tests used a separate disposable
database on an existing local server through a temporary test setup
override. The helper was restored afterward.
- Full workspace typecheck and build pass with the final state fixes, as
do token gates and capability-map validation.
- Token gates, capability-map validation and `git diff --check` pass.
- Browser proof used a disposable task with 80 comments and six large
run histories. The cold view showed the instruction and recent exchange.
**More messages** revealed older comments. Navigation away and back
preserved expansion.
- Local HTTP sample: core 50 ms, recent comments 24 ms, recent run
summaries 17 ms. The latest native conversation response was 839 JSON
characters / 8 ms; its full event response was 1,099,005 / 86 ms.
Browser content paint was 1.34 seconds with development assets cached.
These are local observations, not staging latency claims.
- The first CI run passed every job except four board-send browser cases
and the review threshold. Those browser fixtures only mocked the old
comments endpoint; they now serve both recent and full reads, retaining
all message and attachment assertions. Both initial review findings were
fixed with regression tests. The next CI run passed every job. The
deeper review identified core-cache mutation, older delivery receipt and
retained run-status gaps; those are now fixed with regression coverage.
Final review is 5/5 with zero unresolved findings. Final-head CI
initially failed one unchanged runner shutdown test
(`runnerd-codex-transport.test.ts`, timeout-attachment case) with
`NativeSessionCloseUnrecoverableError`; all other CI jobs passed. The
same runner code passed on

fix(ui): show eligible wake targets when resuming tasks (#17521)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their assigned tasks. > - A task pause controls execution without changing task status. > - Resume can remove that pause and request work from eligible assignees. > - The preview counted blocked tasks and former executors as wake targets. > - The release route correctly skipped those targets, so the dialog promised work that did not start. > - Resume also trusted stale pause snapshots after tasks were reopened. > - This PR aligns preview with execution eligibility and rechecks current task state when releasing a pause. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Pause an assigned blocked task, then open Resume. The dialog says that one task will resume and offers to wake one agent. Applying it only removes the pause. The route skips blocked and backlog tasks. A former executor can also inflate the wake count after reassignment. **Expected behavior** The dialog must distinguish removing a pause from starting work. Its wake count must use the current assignees and statuses accepted by the release route. Blocked work must stay blocked. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open an assigned blocked task. 2. Choose Pause work, then Resume task. 3. Inspect the wake count and apply Resume work. Related runtime recovery work is tracked separately in #17097 and #17439. This PR does not change remote execution recovery. ## What Changed - Share the resume status list between preview and release. Count only current assignees on todo, in-progress, and in-review tasks for resume wakes. - Explain that Resume removes the pause. Show the existing preview warnings, including tasks that remain idle. - Disable and uncheck the wake option when no agents qualify. Send the same choice to the server. - Reevaluate previously skipped pause members after reopening or releasing another hold. Retain active-pause and unsafe-execution guards. - Add real PostgreSQL and HTTP-route regressions plus browser coverage for both task interfaces. Keep draft, ancestor-pause, and Stop/reconciliation coverage. - Update the task coordination maps. Add an opt-in dedicated test database URL for hosts where embedded PostgreSQL cannot start. ## Verification - Final head `9548eb16736f632cc111a5c13a9a994ec1d95a13`: all 55 completed checks pass, with two optional Storybook checks skipped. [CI 40188094904](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40188094904) passes, including typecheck, build, all general/serialized suites, and all eight E2E shards. Greptile is 5/5 on this commit; the reopened-task finding is fixed and resolved. - Red: the real PostgreSQL regression receives three agents instead of the one eligible current assignee on the original code. - Green: all 27 tree-control service, route, and unit tests pass. They cover current assignees, blocked/backlog exclusions, reopened tasks, company boundaries, remaining pause holds, and execution blockers. - The reopened-task route regression fails on the previous implementation: skipped members never reach preflight/wake, and an unsafe replay releases the hold instead of returning 409. All cases pass with the fix. - Browser: all five applicable cases pass together (90 seconds): blocked-work resume in both interfaces, draft/ancestor-pause cases in both interfaces, and the process Stop/pause/reconciliation/restart/cancel lifecycle. The optional native-runner fixture is skipped locally because its fixture binary is not configured. - All 157 task-page component tests pass on the prior commit; subsequent changes affect the server route and Stop fixture only. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass before rebase, and CI typecheck/build passed on the previous PR commit. Server typecheck passes again after the route fix. The final-head CI run also passes these full checks. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass. - Full `pnpm test:run` was attempted but did not complete: this host cannot initialize embedded PostgreSQL, and unrelated workspace-runtime tests timed out. The focused database tests and E2E suite use disposable PostgreSQL 18 instead. All general-test and serialized-test CI shards passed on the previous PR commit; the final-head CI run also passes every test shard. - The first CI run caught the existing Stop test trying to check a disabled wake option for blocked legacy work. It now asserts zero wake targets and retains the no-execution-before-reconciliation checks. - Earlier E2E attempts exposed fixture problems: assignment started the fixture before it was paused, and the classic interface had two matching editor nodes. The fixture now enables dispatch after the hold exists and scopes the final assertion to the task composer. No product assertion was removed. ## Risks Resume preview is a snapshot. The release route still checks current status, assignment, and execution blockers. It does not bypass approval, budget, or recovery gates. Pause, cancel, and restore keep their existing affected-agent semantics. The test database override only accepts a dedicated database name ending in `_test`; it runs migrations before the suite and closes its clients afterward. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, browser control, and code execution. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stop idle task run polling with live updates (#17608)
Stop successful empty assigned-task run queries from polling only while the matching company and session connection is open. Preserve active, pending, failed, and disconnected cadence. Share one lifecycle refresh owner between the task and chat views, discover reviewer events without task identity, and refresh after older in-flight reads settle. All 175 focused tests, 9,079 UI tests, build, typecheck, exact-head Greptile 5/5, and required CI pass. Regression mutations catch reviewer discovery, duplicate reads, readiness, failure state, missing refreshes, and scope cleanup. Earlier E2E cleanup deadlock and server cleanup timeout remain documented; failed-only reruns passed on their same commits. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: explain project access denials and add an authorized repair path (#17509)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Low-trust agents may read only the projects in their allowed scope. > - Workspace setup correctly stops a task outside that scope. > - The task previously showed a generic failure, and agent settings did not offer an additive repair. > - This pull request explains the denial and lets authorized operators add projects while preserving other restrictions. > - The saved task then offers an explicit retry. Saving access does not start work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A project access denial appeared as an ordinary failed attempt. Operators could not add a second allowed project from agent settings. **Expected behavior** The task should explain the denied access and link to a working permission editor. The editor should preserve existing scope and restrictions, enforce operator authority, and retain drafts after a failed save. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Assign a low-trust agent to a task whose project is outside its allowed projects. 2. Let workspace setup deny project access. 3. Open the task, follow Manage project access, add the project, save, reload, and return to the task. 4. Confirm that the saved message remains and Retry task is a separate action. ## What Changed - Record a typed, non-retryable project denial before provider dispatch. Project denials do not enter automatic continuation or provider comment policy. - Project current and historical setup denials into a safe task notice. Keep unrelated failures, prior assignees, and approval/pause/budget gates separate. Recheck current project authority, including standard trust and root-issue grants. Accepted retries keep their working state. - Add board-only project-access reads and additive saves under the agent row lock. Enforce company scope, agent-management authority, pending-approval restrictions, and an audit record for new additions. - Add the production notice and searchable multi-project editor, including read-only, saving, cancellation, and failed-save states. Preserve the return-to-task query through canonical agent redirects. - Register board-only project-access routes in OpenAPI with a strict request schema. - Add production Storybook examples and API/persistence/concurrency regressions. Retain the approved design snapshot and update the behavior maps and implementation contract. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs`. - Passed: 11 permission/projection tests and 30 run-completion tests against an isolated PostgreSQL database. These cover historical failures, concurrent additions, idempotent audit, preserved restrictions, foreign projects, read-only users, agent self-grants, and no automatic wakeup. - Passed: all 27 OpenAPI route tests, including route coverage and the new board-only request/response contract. - Browser: the real app displayed a historical denial; Manage project access opened the editor; saving retained the original project and survived reload; Return to task showed the ready notice. Saving created one audit event and zero runs. Explicit Retry returned 202 and reached the separate sandbox requirement, which remained enforced. No external provider was used. - All five production Storybook interaction checks pass: blocked task, save, cancellation, failed-save recovery, and read-only settings. These use fixture callbacks; durable authorization is covered separately above. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted locally but stopped after repeated embedded PostgreSQL startup failures caused by macOS semaphore exhaustion. Full-suite CI is required before merge. The separate UI suite passed all 9,095 tests. The 41 focused server regressions also passed after rebasing onto the latest master. A further 26 recovery-classification tests pass, including a red-to-green regression for automatic continuation after a project denial. ## Risks - No schema migration. The new endpoint only adds same-company project IDs and preserves the rest of the stored policy. - The historical notice recognizes one exact setup denial message. It does not display arbitrary run errors or disclose a different source project's identity. - The retry still passes all current admission and isolation checks. The notice does not promise that other execution requirements are satisfied. - Related open work: #13309 covers inherited secret restrictions; #11234 covers the broader repository catalog. This change does not replace either policy surface. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code execution and browser tools. fix(chat): honor dismissal for all composer requests (#17218)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task conversations show requests in the feed and above the message composer. > - Earlier fixes kept dismissed questions in history, but excluded completion reviews and other request kinds. > - Closing those forms left a pending badge, and the server could still demand a response. > - This pull request saves human dismissal and removes the request from composer reminders and ordinary completion gates. > - People can continue the conversation and reopen the request from history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related work: #15229 and #15392. **What happened?** Dismissing a completion review closed its form but left it counted as pending. It could return after reload, block a retry, or cause the agent to demand another response. Raw runtime requests could also lose their only usable control when dismissed. **Expected behavior** Dismissal leaves an accessible request in the feed and clears the composer form and pending count. It persists after reload. It does not submit an answer, approve an action, or wake the agent. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with a pending completion review or another composer request. 2. Dismiss the request, then reload the task. 3. Check that the composer stays clear and the feed entry can reopen the request. ## What Changed - Add nullable dismissal fields and a human-only dismissal endpoint with company, private-task access, resolver, and locked review-policy checks. - Persist saved-request dismissal on the server. Keep browser persistence for raw runtime requests and existing question dismissals. - Keep confirmations, choices, item verdicts, suggested tasks, and runtime requests accessible in the feed. - Exclude dismissed ordinary requests from completion and retry gates. Tell agents not to repeat deferred requests. - Preserve tool, secret, connection, plan, company-policy, and configured review authorization gates. Expire deferred non-question requests when their task completes. - Preserve the selected form when another dismissal finishes saving. Keep reopened reviews visible through delayed comment refreshes. - Add a completion-review Storybook test drive and update design, API, database, and capability documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. The final UI changes also passed the UI typecheck. - `pnpm build`: passed. The final UI changes also passed the UI production build. - Focused UI and transcript tests: 550 passed across nine files after merging the current base branch. - Focused database, completion, and prompt tests: 105 passed across three files, including two review-policy regressions that failed before the fix. The tests reject a review requester excluded by current policy, preserve the pending gate on denial, and permit an independent reviewer to defer the request. - Route regression suite: 81 passed, including denial before reading or mutating a private-task request. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - Map and Storybook structural checks: passed; 30 map/catalog script tests passed. - Browser: used the production task-thread components in the completion-review fixture. Dismissed, reloaded, reopened from the feed, and dismissed again. No pending badge or composer takeover remained. Story callbacks simulate API saves; separate server tests cover persistence and permissions. - `pnpm test:run`: stopped after the general-server group reported one failure in `workspace-runtime.test.ts`: "returns a bounded structured conflict and exposes only same-company workspace references". The same test passed in isolation (1 passed, 178 skipped). The cause of the full-suite failure is not established. The full PR CI suite subsequently passed on e243cbb001; its two authorization review findings are fixed in |

fix: recover saved work and provide reliable task Retry (#16965)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The control plane must retain work when an execution or workspace export fails. > - Retained-workspace holds can leave saved input waiting with no usable Retry action. > - Users cannot verify process ownership or repair provider allocations. > - This pull request gives system recovery a durable budget and gives each deliberate Retry a durable intent. > - Safe recovery can preserve files, settle an accepted result, or prepare an independent workspace. > - One task state keeps infrastructure diagnostics out of the ordinary conversation while preserving real permission and approval gates. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task with a retained workspace can show recovery, failed-run and saved-message warnings at the same time. Historical runs without native workspace descriptors cannot use the native restore path. Old recovery metadata can prevent a new attempt even when an independent workspace would be safe. **Expected behavior** Paperclip owns bounded infrastructure retries and file preservation. A user can request another attempt with ordinary Retry. Thinking appears immediately. The service preserves completed effects and current user controls. It does not claim that starting fresh recovered the old files. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Retain a failed run and its workspace after export or process-stop failure. 2. Save a follow-up while the recovery hold is active. 3. Open the task and try to continue without infrastructure credentials or operator certification. Refs #16906, #16835, #16883. This extends their recovery and receipt contracts. Related work: #16962 and #16963. ## What Changed - Add task-level Retry with company-scoped authorization, all-status idempotency and durable admission before physical work. Keep exact-run Retry compatible. - Add typed recovery phases, finite persisted backoff, historical adoption and durable local failure diagnostics. - Preserve native workspaces or verified historical snapshots. Admit an independent fresh workspace only after execution containment. Keep old-source preservation and cleanup obligations separate. - Carry completed publication and API receipts forward. Fence uncertain mutation retries across replacement runs. Preserve connected-chat identity and authorization. - Re-enter normal dispatch for saved input. Reuse accepted results through the existing finalizer. - Use one task interruption projection across the thread, composer and task list. Show optimistic Thinking, ordinary Retry and genuine user gates. - Add PostgreSQL, filesystem, API, browser-fixture and controlled provider coverage. Document the behavior and update the feature/access maps. ## Verification - All GitHub Actions CI jobs pass on `6d8c6d27d50586d8548b31d03b47f6d73a0ee11d`: typecheck, all server/chat/workspace and serialized suites, Runner checks, eight browser shards, canary and build. The required merge gate passes. - Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5, with no actionable findings or unresolved review threads. Its two earlier P1 findings are fixed. - Full recursive typecheck and build pass locally on the final commit. All 16 task Retry cases pass against isolated real PostgreSQL. The unrelated-success case and both stale Retry cases fail on the previous code and pass after the fix. - The corrected gateway fixture passes its uncertain-mutation and independent-read case. Four real HTTP API cases pass for definite 403/422 rejection, completed-effect reuse, and uncertain-effect fences across deliberate and automatic retries. These focused gateway/API checks used a temporary database lifecycle harness on an existing healthy local PostgreSQL process. The standard repository helper is unchanged. - Earlier qualification covers 291 task UI cases, saved-file copyback and ancestry, current Agent Chat ownership races, nine chat Retry API browser cases, and six assembled browser recovery fixtures. A real API/PostgreSQL/native-runner journey showed Thinking in 25 ms despite a delayed response, admitted one successor in a separate workspace, retained original files, and survived reload. - The controlled Daytona test interrupts export, joins the controller, restarts it in a separate process, and verifies one agent start, one external sentinel operation, retained file contents and no premature cleanup. It does not establish abrupt-kill or live LLM/GitHub acceptance. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and was not green: an OAuth row-lock timing assertion failed, and a later suite exhausted macOS PostgreSQL semaphores. The ten OAuth timing cases passed on rerun against a separate database. Later embedded database initialization failures remain recorded; the final CI matrix passes. - Security scanning passed on production-code commit `63953edf069b111c6becc3144dffa6deb52f68b5`. Its only successor changes one test-fixture identity line. The final scan is neutral/inconclusive because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. Both rerun API requests returned 404, so no fresh successful scan is claimed. Socket and Snyk checks pass on the final head. - The optional Paperclip Review remains queued behind an earlier run in workspace finalization. Its prior completed assessment was incomplete because a comparison tool was blocked by the platform filter. It is not counted as a completed code review. GitHub does not require this check for merge. - Hosted acceptance remains pending deployment. Local and CI results do not establish recovery of a hosted task or its retained files. ## Risks - Recovery changes span admission, physical ownership and dispatch. Incorrect evidence could permit overlapping work. Existing physical locks and authoritative stop requirements remain in place. - The migration adds concurrent indexes. It requires the existing top-level migration runner and retries incomplete index creation safely. - A fresh attempt can complete while old-source preservation remains unresolved. The service retains that obligation and does not report those files as recovered. - Unknown tool mutations remain blocked until their authoritative receipt owner resolves them. Generic upstream tools have no universal result-query protocol. - Recovery and diagnostics stay inside the stack. No Cloud incident endpoint, notification worker or new outbound reporting channel is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. The model used reasoning, shell execution, source editing and browser tools. No model subagents were used for this implementation. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; the full local run limitation is documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): recover retained workspaces before saved messages (#16906)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stopped run can leave useful files in its original sandbox. > - The server keeps that sandbox when it cannot confirm file copyback. > - The task can then save new user input but offers no safe way to recover the files. > - A retry of the old agent turn can repeat work that already finished. > - This pull request recovers files through the existing workspace owner and delivers only saved human input. > - The user can recover a task without certifying infrastructure facts or losing completed work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16883 and #16835 for publication receipts and verified process termination. Related: #16478 clears stale holds after copyback already succeeded. This change performs the missing export and records its proof. #16901 manages the main GitHub response comment and does not perform workspace repair. **What happened?** A failed run retained its workspace. A later user message stayed saved behind a file-repair hold. The task asked the user to verify process termination and file recovery but offered no repair control. Sending a message could show an optimistic Working state and move the task to Todo before admission succeeded. **Expected behavior** The harness should recover the original files when it can prove ownership and termination. It should preserve newer edits and completed operations. Only waiting user input may start another turn. Missing evidence must keep the source held with a specific explanation. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Interrupt a sandbox run before workspace finalization succeeds. 2. Retain its exact allocation and save a user follow-up. 3. Observe the file-repair hold and missing end-user repair path. ## What Changed - Add source-bound background recovery for native and legacy runs. An accepted native result is not required. - Share the physical copyback lock and durable owner. Resume only the exact stopped allocation, export files, verify persistence and obtain a fresh stop receipt. - Persist retry limits and idempotent requests on the existing recovery record. Limit each server to two background exports. Add an indexed candidate scan and a separate cleanup obligation. - Add a task-editor recovery endpoint. Deny agents and viewers. Reject caller-supplied stop or repair claims. - Deliver waiting human input once through ordinary admission. Preserve pause, approval, budget and assignment gates. Require historical conversational-adapter evidence for legacy-to-Runner continuation. - Include exact GitHub publication receipts in continuation context. Preserve unknown effects and the original failed run. - Show observed recovery progress, a transient-failure retry action and specific service blockers. Keep saved messages visible. Suppress false startup feedback and implicit Todo promotion behind a file hold. Hide unavailable workspace links. - Update execution semantics, capability maps and production-component stories. ## Verification - Red: the original read model failed the new recovery-progress assertion; the other 23 checks in that file passed. - Passed: recovery regressions with 28 cases with real PostgreSQL, files, tar and Git operations. Lifecycle provider calls are controlled test boundaries. Coverage includes native/legacy export, concurrent owners, rollback after export, interrupted archive export with a new database connection, lost replies, historical discovery, durable retry limits, separate cleanup and saved-input delivery. The actual candidate query uses its partial index with 3,000 unrelated history rows. A first automatic repair can bind verified old-controller stop proof without an accepted native result. Review also reproduced and fixed export-only continuation and cleanup lost after a committed repair. Cleanup remains discoverable without waiting input and after task reconciliation. - Passed: two GitHub integration cases verify that continuation context carries the existing publication receipt and does not write another response. Company and task boundaries are checked. - Passed: 293 continuation, workspace-sync, platform-receipt and OpenAPI checks. After file repair, actual dispatch retains pause, cancellation, approval, real budget-policy and assignment gates. - Passed: 174 route checks, including editor admission, agent/viewer denial and rejection of fabricated repair claims. - Passed: 351 task detail, workspace properties and comment-reopen checks after updating the new read boundaries and asynchronous workspace-link expectations. Two new route cases keep held tasks Blocked when a comment is saved. - Passed: 265 task-thread and recovery-notice checks. The broader continuation suite also passed; its new legacy migration case first exposed a gap that the focused recovery suite now covers. - Passed after rebase: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later master merge adds an unrelated permission migration; recovery migration generation and safety checks passed after the merge. - Passed: token gates, module boundaries, map structure and migration checks. The recovery index is migration 0360 after current master. - Browser: inspected the production recovery component and its retry-to-queued transition with fixture data. The first dev dependency load failed; a reload after optimization resolved it. This is UI evidence, not a live provider recovery claim. - Every test shard passed on final commit `bbbc09efb4`. The older local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the complete CI test matrix passed. Local full typecheck and production build passed. The first CI build compiled and booted, then lost its runner during the clean public npm-install check. An isolated retry passed the build, production boot and clean public npm-install verification. - Greptile reviewed final commit `bbbc09efb4` at 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - The change is not deployed. Hosted recovery remains unverified until the served revision includes this change. ## Risks - Recovery crosses process, provider and persistence boundaries. Missing or mismatched ownership, stop, descriptor or file evidence keeps the hold. It never selects a replacement allocation or silently starts over. - File recovery does not certify external action outcomes or authorize replay. New input still uses normal execution admission. - Historical sources without sufficient durable evidence can remain blocked. Destructive reconstruction stays separate. - The index migration is idempotent. It changes no task data. Snapshot pruning follows repository policy. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, with code execution and browser tools. `gpt-6-astra` assisted earlier investigation. The runtime does not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: add one-click retry for restricted workspace setup (#16909)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks need a clear way to resume after a setup failure. > - A shared repository can contain another task that the assigned agent cannot read. > - Paperclip correctly stops before the agent starts, but the user must then understand workspace settings to recover. > - This pull request gives that failure a single Retry button and selects a clean copy of the configured repository through normal admission. > - The task keeps its assigned agent and execution settings, while access checks and existing work remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #16895 classifies the restricted source failure. This change adds the user recovery action. #16906 handles retained files after execution; this change handles a setup failure before execution starts. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Recovery of a task whose shared repository includes a task workspace the assigned agent cannot read. **Current behavior** The task stops before provider work and asks the user to understand workspace choices or access grants. **Proposed behavior** Show Retry above the task message box, independent of loaded conversation history. One click requests one attempt using a clean checkout of the configured remote. Show Retrying while the request is pending. Show an error only if the request fails. **Reason and benefit** The user can resume work without understanding repository isolation or changing access to another task. **Breaking changes** None. The recovery source value is server-owned. The public workspace selection request does not accept it. No migration is required. ## What Changed - Add one Retry control above the composer in both task conversation views. It stays available when an older notice is outside the loaded comment pages. - Bind recovery to the latest failed run, current assignee, and recorded proof that provider work did not start. - Use the existing atomic recovery route and pending workspace selection. Normal admission clears the old session and creates the isolated checkout. - Choose a fresh task-owned branch for recovery, including fixed project branches, existing task branches, and adapter branch overrides. Preserve the model, environment, setup commands, pending user workspace choices, previous files, and all execution gates. - Update execution documentation and both workspace maps. ## Verification - Passed all 461 tests in the eight affected database, Git, HTTP, workspace binding, and conversation suites after the review fixes. An additional 292 tests passed after the final compatibility fixes, including IssueDetail and recovery action routing. - Concurrent HTTP retries produce one wakeup. Paused projects and runs that started provider work reject recovery without changing the workspace. - Real Git tests exclude private files, private commits, and unpublished original files from the clean checkout, preserve the original, and exercise reuse, cleanup, and reopen. - Verified in a running local app: a task failed twice, displayed only Retry, and reached Done after one click. A second browser test put the failure notice behind 501 newer comments and used a fixed project branch. Retry stayed visible and the task reached Done. The credential-free process worker used the selected checkout and wrote its result there. This does not claim a live model-provider run. - The first manual fixture lacked a responsible-user membership and failed after successful workspace recovery. Corrected the fixture, retained that failure evidence, and verified the full flow with ordinary authorization. - Full typecheck, build, token gates, and map checks passed. The full local suite was stopped after review changed its source during execution; current-head CI provides the complete suite result. - An earlier unrelated peer-comment read test hit a socket hangup. The next complete affected-suite run passed; the first failure is retained in local evidence. - Current-head CI hit an unchanged runner credential-concurrency test failure. That lane passed on the preceding commit, and all 42 credential tests passed locally. The original failed job is retained; the one-time rerun passed. All latest-head CI checks are green (55 success, 2 skipped, 1 neutral), and Greptile is 5/5 with both review threads resolved. ## Risks - A remote repository outage can still prevent the next attempt. Retry does not grant access or copy unpublished files from the old checkout. - Recovery accepts only the latest recorded pre-provider failure and preserves normal execution gates. This limits duplicate work and stale recovery requests. - No database migration, dependency, or lockfile change. - The first review found fixed-branch retry loops and dependence on paginated notice history. Both had failing regressions before the fixes and now pass targeted tests and the combined browser journey. - Full CI then caught assumptions about missing run evidence and unrelated recovery actions. The final changes tolerate absent evidence and scope the new lookup to board-owned actions with valid run IDs. The previously failing suites now pass locally. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session.

Draft: Build agent-ready design proposal system (#16875)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - People need consistent UI patterns to review and control that work. > - The current board uses related layouts and controls with different spacing, type, and behavior. > - That drift makes it hard for a designer or an agent to build a new page from a reliable reference. > - Storybook can show the shared patterns and the states they need to support. > - This pull request adds design proposals, a local sandbox, and reusable UI controls so people can compare the patterns in context. > - The benefit is a clearer design system that agents can use to build consistent UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React board UI and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** Board pages repeat visual and interaction decisions. Storybook did not provide a complete reference for task views, conversation states, typography, toolbars, tabs, and light/dark colors. People could not compare a proposed pattern with the running board in one place. **Proposed solution** Add a staged Design Proposals catalog with foundations, components, layouts, and page specimens. Add an opt-in sandbox. Reuse production components where possible. Include synthetic conversation states and shared controls so reviewers can compare and refine them. **Alternatives considered** Separate static mockups would not show keyboard behavior, responsive layout, or real component states. Rebuilding each page only in Storybook would allow the reference to drift from the board. **Roadmap alignment** This improves existing board UI and Skills Manager surfaces. It does not add a new control-plane capability. ## What Changed - Added dark and light color references, typography and conversation specimens, and component stories for buttons, tabs, toolbars, sidebar, popovers, activity, and task lists. - Added a local design sandbox with synthetic task conversation playback and representative states. - Shared collection toolbars and navigation patterns across task, agent, project, routine, skill, connector, and artifact pages. - Added the streamlined Skills tabs and a My Skills collection that uses the shared skill cards. - Restored saved-thread access during synthetic playback, kept connector searchbox semantics, and updated reproduction checks after moving trial stories. - Documented the proposed patterns and added focused UI, catalog, and browser checks. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs --check` passed. - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed after merging master. After the review fixes, focused UI typecheck, `pnpm build-storybook`, 23 Skills Sources tests, and all 15 Storybook typography browser tests passed. - Focused task-thread and system-notice suites passed: 251 tests. Connector Browse passed 84 tests; the connector, attachment, recovery, and Storybook flyout browser journeys passed locally. - A local full Vitest run hit one intermittent chat-channels integration failure; that test passed in isolation. GitHub CI [39347996059](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39347996059) passed on the exact latest commit: 55 successful checks and two skipped draft-only Storybook jobs. - Greptile reviewed the exact latest commit at 5/5 with no new comments or open review threads. GitHub reports the branch as cleanly mergeable. ## Risks - This PR changes 206 files and exceeds the repository's 100-file review target. Review by commit and consider a scoped split before merge. - Design Proposals are staged references. Fixture interactions do not prove API behavior, permissions, or provider execution. - UI changes to shared controls may affect pages outside the proposal sandbox. Focused browser checks and the full CI matrix passed. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The model used reasoning, code execution, browser inspection, and local tests. Earlier branch commits were also AI-assisted in this Codex conversation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details available in this session) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above where applicable - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Scott Tong <scott@scotts-mbp-m5-max.local> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ui): reduce task startup initialization and redundant reads (#16862)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip users open tasks to read saved work and reply. > - Faster startup must preserve message positions and composer state. > - Chrome CPU samples showed unused shared schemas and catalog indexes being initialized before task content. > - The shared package exports definitions and module-local data, with no required import-time registrations. > - Let the browser bundler discard unused shared modules. > - Readiness marks also exposed a duplicate plan read even though full task detail contains that plan. > - Keep both improvements measurable through CPU profiles, gate transitions and real browser acceptance. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Follow-up to #16849. Related layout work: #14758. Searches found no overlapping plan-cache PR. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Task startup evaluates unused schemas and catalog indexes reached through the shared package barrel. The task also waits for a second plan-document request after full task detail arrives, even when that response already includes the plan or an explicit absent-plan value. Profiling showed that removing the request alone gave a small and variable total gain; unused initialization was the larger cold-load opportunity. **Subsystem affected** Board task loading, shared-package bundling metadata, plan-query caching, and local issue-detail profiling. **Proposed behavior** Discard unused shared modules during browser bundling. Fill an unused plan query when a full task response arrives. List-only snapshots keep their normal plan fetch. Keep the existing coordinated reveal. ## What Changed - Declare the shared package side-effect free so the bundler can drop unused module initialization. Used schemas and catalog data still initialize normally. - Seed an absent plan query at the successful full-task HTTP response boundary. Use a 30-second plan-query freshness window. List cache merges do not update this plan cache, and a later detail response never overwrites an existing plan query. - Preserve document-scope invalidation for plan creation, edits and deletion. - Add opt-in Chrome CPU profiles and readiness transitions to the existing performance harness. Diagnostic runs use one sample per scenario/profile and are labelled separately from latency benchmarks. - Record only fixed gate names and readiness booleans in local browser marks. Reset the gate effects on task changes so fully cached navigation is profiled too. ## Verification - Production UI build, UI typecheck and token design gates passed. - 258 focused unit tests passed. The final freshness follow-up passed 14 tests, including query eviction followed by a list refresh, preserving a separately fetched newer plan, missing projection, task isolation, and document-event refresh/deletion. - Two focused reuse tests fail with the original HTTP cache function and pass with the fix. The original production browser case makes redundant plan reads and fails. - All 13 final browser cases passed serially: eight layout scenarios, four plan-present/absent and direct/list startup cases, and a cached-task switch that records every gate. The cached-switch case failed before the identity dependencies were added. - One earlier concurrent browser run failed a properties-resize reading-anchor assertion. Two isolated repeats and the final serial suite passed. This outlier is retained in the local logs; it was not treated as a reason to change the unchanged scroll owner speculatively. - Actual CPU samples and readiness artifacts were captured on a disposable local production preview. This is browser timing data, not exported telemetry. - Audited 247 non-test shared modules for required import-time registration. The four top-level loops construct exported local catalog data. No required registration or side-effect-only shared imports were found. - A compiled browser-library contract accepted valid task input, rejected an empty title, retained all seven agent statuses, and retained GitHub metadata plus 1,576 catalog entries. All 13 browser scenarios passed against the initialization candidate too. - Plan reuse alone did not establish a reliable total gain: a final local run was 4,356 ms cold and 1,116 ms warm on Fast 4G/4x CPU. - The next five-sample run with unused shared initialization removed measured **3,298 ms cold (24% faster)** and 1,079 ms warm. Median issue API server time was 35 versus 39 ms. First contentful paint fell from 2,808 to 1,648 ms. JavaScript before content fell from 1,722 to 1,670 KiB; CPU initialization mattered more than byte size. - Final alternating comparison: five samples per variant for both cold and warm navigation, same persisted task and Fast 4G/4x CPU settings, fresh browser per sample, order alternated between variants. **Cold content paint: 4,588 → 3,688 ms (20% faster). Warm: 996 → 1,030 ms (+35 ms).** No CPU profiler was active. The final initialization commit is the only source difference between these two builds. - These local measurements do not establish deployed staging latency or a speedup across every profile. Unthrottled timings varied with API latency. - Actual UI walkthrough on the final bundle: read the saved plan and conversation, submit one unassigned reply, refresh, navigate to Projects and Back, and inspect the new-task dialog. The reply persisted exactly once, confirmed independently through the comments API. No paid agent was woken. - Final head `a7043c474d`: Greptile 5/5, all review threads resolved, and all 56 checks passed, including full typecheck, build, unit and E2E suites. ## Risks Bundlers can discard unreferenced shared modules. Future required registrations or global initialization must be declared in the package side-effects metadata. Current module-local catalog construction remains when its exports are used. Merged list snapshots can retain old plan fields while receiving a new task-cache timestamp. This change seeds only from a new full HTTP response, rather than inferring plan freshness from those merged snapshots. Existing plan-query state is never overwritten. List-only, stale, invalidated, or incomplete data still uses the normal plan read. Existing document invalidations refresh the query. No API, database, permission or reveal-policy changes. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution and browser verification. A more precise runtime model identifier and context-window size are unavailable. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): clear consumed messages from the pending queue (#16317)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task conversations keep follow-up messages pending while an agent works. > - The screen combines optimistic sends, queue snapshots, and run input records. > - A late send response can restore a local queue flag after a run takes the message. > - A stale queue snapshot can then keep the same message in pending. > - This pull request matches the input record to its source queue and clears stale pending flags. > - The benefit is that consumed messages leave pending while unsent messages stay visible. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A follow-up can remain in the task composer's pending row after a run takes it as input. Local queue state can outlive the send request. The old projection cleared that state for steering, but not for ordinary run-start input. A stale queue read can also retain the consumed entry. **Expected behavior** A message that a started run takes as input appears once in history and leaves pending. Other pending messages remain available. A message assigned to a run that has not started remains pending. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Send a follow-up while a task has a live run. 2. Let a started run record that message as input before or after the send response arrives. 3. Let a queue read still include the consumed message. 4. Observe the message remain pending on the base revision. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against master at `33d24e48ad` with controlled request ordering. **Deployment mode** Source checkout. Browser verification used the production task screen with a simulated native runner and delayed API responses. It did not run a live model or change a deployed instance. Related: [PR #15030](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15030) addresses acknowledgement matching in the runner console. This change addresses the task-detail composer and does not modify that console. ## What Changed - Clear local pending flags when a started run records the comment as input. - Use live-run input IDs while the run-history query catches up. - Match stale queue entries by their primary or coalesced source wake ID, even when the snapshot targets the previous run or has no target. - Retain coalesced source queue IDs in run context and include receipt IDs in compact task run reads. - Keep unstarted run inputs and authoritative retries pending. Cover send ordering, same-run and successor delivery, queued snapshots, coalesced inputs, and retry consumption. - Add the delivery-race checks to the steering feature map. ## Verification - Before the fix, the first four request-order regressions failed with the consumed message still in pending. Coverage now includes 16 combinations of receipt source, send-response order, and stale snapshot kind. - Focused UI checks: 5 files and 233 tests passed. These cover task detail, queue projection, optimistic comments, queued-message controls, and the task-chat adapter. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - Server receipt checks: 5 files and 139 tests passed with `PAPERCLIP_TEST_POSTGRES_TEMPLATE=0`. These exercise real database reads, coalesced heartbeat input, and polling routes. The default cached-template path timed out during setup on this host; the fresh-cluster path passed without longer timeouts. - Token gates and `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Browser: sent a follow-up with a delayed response in the production task screen. The consumed message moved into history. A second unsent follow-up stayed queued. Reload preserved both states. The API and runner were simulated. - `pnpm build` passed. - The full local repository test run was started, then stopped to isolate database setup timeouts. All 55 GitHub CI checks passed on `4ec6820cf1f89880b801fd5f938d72f54591c5e2`, including the full test matrix. One serialized server shard passed on its single rerun after a 15-second route-test timeout; the same 97-test route suite also passed locally. - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5. All review threads are resolved. ## Risks - Queue display depends on matching comment IDs, source queue IDs, and a recorded start time. Rows without start evidence stay pending. Newer queues remain visible until their own input receipt arrives. - Run context gains additive receipt metadata. No schema migration is required. Dispatch order, stored queue state, company access, and steering authority stay unchanged. - Browser evidence covers controlled response ordering. It does not establish deployment or live-provider behavior. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window limit are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add Speko voice setup, task calls, and Storybook coverage (#15728)
Runtime #15727 is merged. This PR adds the UI. Qualification follows in
#15729.
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work through tasks and governed connections.
> - Chat connections already bind external conversations to those tasks.
> - Speko handles voice and telephony, while the selected Paperclip
agent does the work.
> - A call needs durable session authority, ordered follow-ups, and safe
result delivery.
> - This PR adds the Speko setup and call controls to the existing Apps
and task UI.
> - This PR depends on #15727. The qualification suite follows
separately. Speko stays experimental.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Problem or motivation**
Phone and browser voice conversations cannot use the chat connection
task lifecycle. A separate voice runtime is needed to preserve task
authority, retries, and reply history.
**Proposed solution**
Add company-scoped voice sessions, signed callbacks, durable replies,
inbound intake, and an agent-facing outbound-call tool. Reuse existing
tasks, queues, secrets, and publications.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental chat connector entry points under Agent
Chat and Connected Apps. The project owner requested this feature.
Refs #11418 for the original provider catalog proposal. This
implementation uses the newer chat connection infrastructure rather than
an MCP catalog-only integration. Refs #15721 for remote OpenCode
startup.
## What Changed
- Add the Speko Apps catalog entry, provider artwork, and browser SDK.
- Reuse existing agents in setup. Keep the optional Company Phone Agent
in the catalog, with connection instructions available to any assigned
agent.
- Add task voice controls, transcripts, phone callbacks, inbound-line
settings, and call Activity entries.
- Surface retryable connection and incoming-task inventory failures,
preserve active call controls and cached tasks, restore keyboard focus
after recovery, and bound notification polling so a stuck request cannot
hide later results.
- Put Save & exit and Connect Speko in the credential step’s shared
footer.
- Add deterministic production-component Storybook fixtures for setup,
lifecycle, failures, permissions, and phone surfaces.
- Include voice components in the design guide. Stories never request a
real microphone or place calls.
## Verification
- All 27 focused UI/controller regressions, UI typecheck, token gates,
and 28 map/catalog structural tests pass. The shared connection cache
test covers pause/resume invalidation during the 30-second fresh period.
- Storybook builds 157 Speko production-component stories. The complete
prior 156-story set passed all 624 checks on UI source

fix: record verified workspace file recovery from tasks (#16104)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Recovery must preserve files and show the next operator action. > - A stopped run can leave a file repair hold after its recovery action is resolved. > - The task notice shows that hold but has no form to record verified file recovery. > - A chat connection can also replace the file repair instruction with a chat retry instruction. > - This pull request adds a file recovery form and preserves the file repair instruction. > - The form records evidence for the original run and keeps the current task status. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A retained workspace file hold can block a task after its recovery action is resolved. The task page offers no file recovery form. A chat binding can hide the required file repair instruction. **Expected behavior** An authorized board member can record verified recovery of the original files. The server checks the original stop proof. The task keeps its current status and does not start another run. Chat instructions must not replace file repair instructions. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a stopped legacy run with a retained workspace recovery marker and a resolved recovery action. 2. Open its task page, including a task with a chat connection. 3. Observe that the file hold has no supported form to record verified recovery. Refs: #15857, #15824, #16095. Those PRs address shutdown export, native finalization and workspace source isolation. This PR uses the existing file repair API. ## What Changed - Add a board-only file recovery form with evidence and an explicit file verification confirmation. - Preserve the current task status when recording file recovery. - Project whether the original recovery marker supports file recording. - Keep file repair instructions when a task has a chat binding. - Add UI, route and Storybook examples for success, denial and chat-connected file holds. - Document the recovery flow and update the affected Storybook catalog entries. ## Verification - Merged master `c8efdbfba43` and resolved both rounds of catalog/index conflicts. Upstream review notes and classifications are preserved, together with all four retained-file recovery examples and their stable story IDs. Both fix branches also combine without merge conflicts or catalog fingerprint drift. - Passed locally after conflict resolution: 47 tests covering the file recovery UI, execution blocker notice and retained workspace repair route. The earlier ownership-route pass also covered 196 tests. - Passed: UI token gates, the complete Storybook catalog check with no drift errors, feature and agent map structure checks, and all 17 catalog/index script tests. Verification inventory counts match all 262 authored suites and 2,485 story IDs. The upstream production verification obligations remain intact. - Passed: full workspace typecheck, build and Storybook build on latest head `10ac22b35d0a4fe469cf620914845c509046da48`. The built index retains all four file-recovery story IDs. - Latest head `10ac22b35d0a4fe469cf620914845c509046da48` has 54 successful checks and two intentionally skipped Storybook checks. Apex is 5/5 on that exact commit, with no unresolved findings. The full general/serialized suites and all eight browser shards passed in CI. Local tests use the focused suites above. Storybook browser interactions have not been executed locally. - Manual check: open a task with a retained file hold. Verify that evidence and confirmation are required. Record verified file recovery. Confirm that its status stays unchanged and no run starts. Repeat without board runtime access and with an unverified stop receipt. ## Risks - The form records an operator attestation. It does not recover files itself or prove external action outcomes. - A stale source or missing stop proof must remain rejected by the existing server route. - No database migration or automatic task retry is added. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6`), used through Codex with reasoning, repository tools, code editing and test execution. The exact context window size is not exposed by this environment. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover saved workspace results automatically (#15824)
## Thinking Path - Paperclip preserves accepted agent results before workspace copyback and result commitment. - A replaced controller can leave a physical copyback owner receipt behind. A lost database lock or expired lease cannot prove that its tar/Git children stopped. - Infrastructure recovery should belong to the runtime and deployment harness; task users should not investigate processes or attest shutdown. - New receipts record the exact deployment. The harness independently verifies that deployment fully stopped and signs a short-lived proof bound to the stack, run, owner and deployment. - The existing guarded reconciler then finishes the same accepted result without a new agent turn. Legacy receipts retain the documented administrator API after independent platform verification. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An accepted native result can remain at `workspace_finalizing` with an abandoned physical copyback owner. Repeated recovery sweeps could replace specific instructions with advice to start new agent work. The first version of this PR exposed a shutdown-evidence form in the task; that asks end users to resolve infrastructure details. **Expected behavior** Automatically verify and recover the exact stopped deployment, preserve the original accepted result and existing approval/monitor waits, and show only a quiet task status. Unknown or live workers must remain fenced. Older receipts without platform identity need independently verified operator assistance through the administrator API. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Persist an accepted native result and a copyback receipt from a prior controller. 2. Replace that deployment before workspace finalization commits. 3. Let the normal finalization reconciler revisit the saved result. 4. With a platform-bound receipt and a fully stopped deployment, recovery should finish automatically. With missing, live, unverifiable or changed ownership, it must not write files or create another provider turn. Related public work: #14402 introduced copyback ownership; #9687 handles dead-run finalize barriers; #15795 handles terminal stale-run cleanup. This change addresses an accepted result whose physical copyback owner prevents commitment. ## What Changed - Record Railway project, environment, service and deployment identity on new physical copyback owners. - Request read-only platform verification from the managed cloud harness. Require an Ed25519 stop receipt with a disjoint purpose, configured signing key, exact stack/run/owner/deployment binding and valid expiry. - Keep live, unknown, malformed, unavailable and legacy owners fenced. Compare the whole prior receipt during ownership takeover, under the existing dedicated advisory lock. - Persist platform proof and audit automatic takeover. Resume normal finalization of the same saved result, preserving task ownership, approved boundaries, monitors and pending confirmations. - Remove process metadata, shutdown evidence, confirmation checkboxes and infrastructure-repair forms from task views. Suppress the duplicate technical owner-recovery card. Show “Restoring saved work…” only from server-confirmed recovery or queued operator recovery; platform identity alone shows the operator-assistance fallback. Remove the status when recovery resolves. - Share current-task, current-running-execution, accepted-result, authoritative-reviewer and newer-execution checks between automatic and operator recovery. Validate after the provider lookup, atomically with the owner claim, and again before file publication; closed or superseded tasks cannot start copyback. - Keep the separately authorized exact-owner API for operator recovery of legacy receipts, with active-lock, live-controller, stale-result and newer-execution rejection. Generic dismissal cannot bypass the copyback fence. - Replace obsolete form stories with production-backed automatic, queued, legacy, completed and mobile examples; retain stable suite IDs. Update the operator runbook and scoped Storybook catalog. ## Verification - Red/green: new platform-proof tests failed before implementation; the database takeover regression failed against the original ownership guard; reduced-UI assertions failed against the original form. All pass after the changes. - Passed: 59 physical-owner/finalization database tests using isolated PostgreSQL, including real reconciler commitment from all three saved-result phases through both automatic and operator recovery. They preserve result identity, exact saved file bytes, pending approval and overdue monitor waits, and create no new run or wake request. Unknown evidence and changed ownership remain fenced. - Passed: 162 focused proof, cloud identity, recovery route, recovery-card and reduced-UI tests. - Passed: full workspace typecheck and build, final server/UI typechecks, token gates, and Storybook build. - Browser inspection: desktop task composition shows only the quiet status; completed example removes it and retains the approval-wait message. Mobile shows the existing bottom navigation with no horizontal overflow. These are fixture UI observations, not live provider acceptance. - A companion harness change implements the actual provider check, signed receipts, server-token authentication and bounded/coalesced provider reads. Its full typecheck and test suite passed: 3,240 passed, 92 skipped, zero failures. This application alone cannot enable platform verification. - The updated full application `pnpm test:run` was stopped after repeated local embedded-Postgres startup failures; it is not claimed green. The same affected recovery suites pass against isolated PostgreSQL. CI passed on final head `9ad5c3529e`: 54 successful checks, two intentional skips, and successful legacy Snyk status. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Global Storybook catalog validation is green: 225 files, 2,224 stories. Its 17 catalog/index tests pass. Master was merged and the inherited index metadata was reconciled after source review. - Review correction red/green: two UI and two database assertions reproduced misleading progress / missing server recovery state; all pass after server-confirmed state was added. All 153 focused server tests and 68 UI tests pass on the final recovery code, including repeated-sweep idempotence. Full workspace typecheck/build, token gates and Storybook build also pass. - Safety regression red/green: stale-task copyback and publication tests failed against the previous guard. The final suite covers changes during proof lookup, closed/cancelled tasks, replaced execution/checkout, newer and queued legacy runs, reassignment and rejected/unbound results, plus the real reconciler selecting closed or superseded tasks. Files remain untouched and no workspace operation starts. - No staging mutations, deployment, live provider probes or live production recovery were performed. The three historical receipts lack deployment identity and still require independent operator proof. ## Risks Automatic takeover requires the companion harness release and configured runtime-identity keys. Deploying only this application leaves unavailable evidence fenced. Legacy receipts are not retrospectively assigned a deployment identity. An authorized operator can still make an incorrect attestation through the fallback API; its administrator gate and exact-owner safeguards remain. Provider history that is missing or deeper than the bounded lookup defers automatic recovery. Copyback can still fail under its existing retained-workspace policy. No migration, telemetry change or cloud provider credential delivery is required. The companion harness PR also has passing CI and a 5/5 review; neither branch is deployed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with repository inspection, browser verification, tool use and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <paperclip@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): default human task replies to the latest assigning agent (#15594)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks let agents ask a person for input. > - The reply composer needs a useful default recipient. > - A recent comment does not identify the agent that assigned the task. > - The old fallback can select the person who is writing the reply. > - This change uses the latest agent assignment and keeps manual choices. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** When an agent assigns a task to a person, the reply composer can select that person or a different commenter. A data refresh can also replace a manual selection. **Expected behavior** For a task assigned to the current person, select the latest agent that assigned it to them. If no such assignment exists, use the latest other commenter. If neither exists, leave the recipient empty. Keep explicit choices during refreshes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have agent Alpha assign a task to a person. 2. Assign it to agent Beta, then have Beta assign it to the same person. 3. Open the task as that person. 4. Check that the reply composer selects Beta. 5. Select another recipient. Refresh task data. Check that the selection stays. Related work: #15091 shares task composer controls. This change fixes recipient defaults. ## What Changed - Read real assignment changes from REST and native runner task activity, in time order. - Record human assignee fields in native create and reassign activity. - Ignore unchanged assignment fields and assignments to other people. - Use the assigning agent before comment hints for human-owned tasks. - Connect the suggestion to current and classic task composers and pipeline replies. - Keep manual selections when suggestions change. - Add regression tests and document the fallback. - Use tasks with no assignee in the attachment receipt tests. This keeps the tests on the comment route. Dismiss announcements through the real UI. - Record human and agent assignees in REST creation receipts. Include child creation in the assignment history resolver. ## Verification - Focused tests cover assignment order, creation, other recipients, unchanged fields, fallback, and manual selections. - Browser fixture uses the real composer and assignment resolver. It selects Beta and keeps a manual human selection after history refresh. - Passed: 223 focused tests across four suites. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`. - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates`. - The initial CI run passed full build, typecheck, Rust, unit tests and seven E2E shards. The attachment shard exposed tests that relied on the old self-selection default. The tests now select the recipient explicitly. - Native assignment regression tests and resolver tests pass: 40 tests. - Attachment E2E suite: 10 passed; one page-load timing failure passed on an isolated rerun. All 11 cases passed across the suite and rerun. - Previous full CI passed at |

fix(ui): align chat connection and recovery cards (#15771)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Task pages show external chat connections and recovery notices.
> - These cards use different widths, colors, and spacing.
> - The difference makes related task information harder to scan.
> - This pull request gives these cards one shared surface.
> - The benefit is a consistent task page for chat and email users.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
The external chat banner and recovery notice have different backgrounds,
padding, and widths. The first banner needs more space above it.
**Expected behavior**
Connection, recovery, workspace repair, and task email cards use the
same surface. The chat cards have the same width.
**Steps to reproduce**
Open a task with an external Slack conversation and a recovery notice.
Compare the two cards. Open the Tasks / Context notices story to compare
the updated cards with an AgentMail email card.
## What Changed
- Add a shared token-based surface for task context cards.
- Put chat recovery notices in the same width container as the
connection banner.
- Add space above the connection banner.
- Apply the surface to task email cards and workspace export repair.
- Add a Storybook view with per-card width, color, padding, and corner
checks.
- Give the workspace recovery card its own React key to prevent
duplicate connection banners.
## Verification
- Passed `pnpm check:token-gates`.
- Passed 57 tests for ExecutionBlockerNotice, WorkspaceExportRecovery,
and the external chat banner.
- Passed UI typecheck and UI production build.
- Captured desktop and mobile browser screenshots from the real
components with fixture data. The three cards have equal widths,
backgrounds, padding, and corners.
- Full local typecheck needs Cargo, which is absent in the task
environment. Full tests and build could not complete within the
environment memory limit. Remote typecheck, build, all test shards, and
security checks pass on commit

feat(issues): keep follow-up parents and show the creation source (#15762)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agents delegate work by creating follow-up tasks through the issue API, the CLI, and the chat `create_task` tool > - An agent can omit `parentId` when it creates a follow-up from an ordinary execution task. The API accepts the task as a top-level task. The task hierarchy does not show where the task came from, even though the run provenance is recorded > - The operator must read run history to learn why the task exists. This is slow and it hides delegated work from the parent task > - This pull request keeps the parent link for delegated follow-ups by default, keeps intentional standalone tasks possible, and shows an access-checked "Created from <task> by <agent>" note on the task page from the recorded run provenance > - The benefit is that each agent-created task shows its source without log inspection, while structural parentage, provenance, and blockers stay separate concepts ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13241 (shows tasks created from a task on the source task page; this PR shows the reverse direction on the created task) Refs #9727 (open proposal for creation provenance tracking) **What existing behavior does this improve?** Issue creation by agent runs, and the task detail page. **Subsystem affected** Server (`POST /api/companies/:companyId/issues`, `GET /api/issues/:id`), shared types, UI task detail page, CLI `issue create`, Paperclip skill docs. **Current behavior** When an agent run bound to an execution task creates a task and omits `parentId`, the task is created with no parent. The task page shows no source. The operator must inspect the run log to find the task that the agent was working on. The source run and the privacy parent are recorded, but the UI does not use them. **Proposed behavior** - When an agent run bound to an ordinary execution task omits `parentId`, the server sets `parentId` to that task. The `issue.created` activity records `parentDefaultedFromRunIssue: true`. - An explicit `parentId: null` keeps the task standalone. Conversation runs (chat handoffs), board or user creates, watchdog follow-ups, a run task the agent may not mutate, a default parent that would cause a delegation cycle, and a default parent the agent may not create a child under (for example a protected assignment policy without a grant) also stay standalone. The server runs the same `tasks:assign` decision with the defaulted parent in scope before it accepts the default. No request that succeeded before now fails. An explicit `parentId` is still checked as before. - `GET /api/issues/:id` returns `createdFrom` with the source task, the run, and the agent. The server resolves it from `origin_run_id`, or from the recorded creation activity for historical rows. It returns `null` when the viewer may not read the source task or the run, when the run is from another company, or when provenance is missing. - The task page shows "Created from <task> by <agent>" in the classic breadcrumb area and in the streamlined Tasks tab. The note is not a blocker and it is shown with or without a parent. - The CLI `issue create` command gets `--standalone`, which sends `parentId: null`. **Reason and benefit** Operators see why a task exists on the task itself. Delegated follow-ups stay inside the parent task tree, so parent completion and child wake-ups keep working. Private and cross-company sources stay hidden. **Breaking changes** None for the API schema. Agents that create tasks from a run and relied on the omitted `parentId` to mean "top-level" must now send `parentId: null` (CLI: `--standalone`). The skill and the spec document this. ## What Changed - `server/src/services/issue-creation-source.ts` (new): resolves a task's creation source from the origin run or the creation activity, scoped to the company, and loads the run-bound task by UUID or identifier. - `server/src/routes/issues.ts`: `POST /companies/:companyId/issues` defaults `parentId` to the run's task when the body omits it (with the exclusions above) and records the default in the activity log. `GET /issues/:id` adds the access-checked `createdFrom` field. - `packages/shared/src/types/issue.ts` and index exports: new `IssueCreationSource` type and the optional `createdFrom` field on `Issue`. - `ui/src/components/task-detail/IssueCreatedFromNote.tsx` (new), `TaskDetailTasksPanel.tsx`, and `IssueDetail.tsx`: show the creation source in both task page layouts and count it in the Tasks tab badge. - `cli/src/commands/client/issue.ts`: `issue create --standalone`. - Docs: `doc/SPEC-implementation.md`, `doc/CLI.md`, `skills/paperclip/SKILL.md`. - Tests: `server/src/__tests__/issue-creation-source-routes.test.ts` (new), `TaskDetailTasksPanel.test.tsx`, `IssueDetail.test.tsx`. ## Verification Run the new server route test (embedded Postgres): ```sh cd server && pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/issue-creation-source-routes.test.ts ``` It covers: ordinary delegation gets the parent and `createdFrom`; explicit `parentId: null` stays standalone but still shows the source; conversation handoff and board create stay standalone; a would-be delegation cycle falls back to standalone; a protected source task without a grant falls back to standalone while an explicit parent still returns 403; an explicit cycle still returns 409; historical provenance from the creation activity; missing provenance, a private source for an outsider, and a cross-company run all return `null`. Related existing suites that passed locally (11 files, 313 tests): `issue-created-from-routes`, `issue-create-deduplication-routes`, `issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes`, `chat-project-tools`, `issue-assignee-invokability-routes`, `issue-watchdogs-routes`, `issue-dependency-wakeups-routes`, `public-mcp`, `native-runtime/task-creation-backlog`, `issue-access-grants-routes`, `issue-list-assignee-filter-routes`. UI: ```sh cd ui && pnpm exec vitest run src/components/task-detail/TaskDetailTasksPanel.test.tsx src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx pnpm check:token-gates ``` Manual check: as an agent run bound to a task, `POST /api/companies/:companyId/issues` with only a title. The response has `parentId` set to the run's task. Open the new task; the page shows "Created from <task> by <agent>". The related server suites pass locally (`issue-created-from`, `issue-create-deduplication`, `issue-agent-mutation-ownership`, `chat-project-tools`, `issue-watchdogs`, `public-mcp`, `task-creation-backlog`, `issue-access-grants`, `permissions-upgrade-boundary`). The full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm test:run`, and `pnpm build` were not run locally because the sandbox has a 4 GB memory limit and the TypeScript compiler is killed on the server project; the CI gates on this PR cover them. ## Risks - Behavior shift for agent clients: a run-created task without `parentId` now becomes a child of the run's task. Clients that want a top-level task must send `parentId: null`. The watchdog, conversation, and board paths are excluded, and the default never adds a blocker. - The default parent inherits the parent's execution workspace, which run-created tasks already inherited from the run's task. - `createdFrom` adds one run lookup, one issue lookup, one access decision, and one agent lookup to the task detail request. It is skipped when the task has no origin run and no creation activity with a run. - Privacy: the field returns `null` unless the viewer can read the source task and the run, so a private source is indistinguishable from missing provenance. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`), Anthropic, run through Claude Code in a Paperclip-managed execution workspace with tool use, shell execution, and a local embedded Postgres for tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): confirm cancellation from monitor cards (#15735)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their tasks. > - A task monitor schedules a later agent check. > - The monitor card shows when that check will run. > - The card has no direct control to cancel the monitor. > - This change adds an X button and a confirmation dialog. > - The operator can stop the scheduled check from the card. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The monitor card on the task page. **Current behavior** The operator must open task properties to clear a monitor. **Proposed behavior** Select the X in the top right of the card. Select Keep monitor to leave the schedule in place. Select Cancel monitor to remove the scheduled check. **Reason and benefit** The operator can cancel the monitor where its schedule is shown. Confirmation helps prevent an accidental cancellation. **Breaking changes** None. The change uses the existing task update API. ## What Changed - Add an accessible X button at the top right of the monitor card. - Confirm cancellation before the task update. - Keep the dialog open with an error if the update fails. - Preserve the other execution policy settings and refresh the task after success. - Reject stale policy writes under the task row lock with an optional expectedExecutionPolicy snapshot. - Document the snapshot field and add a database test for stale cancellation. - Restrict snapshot requests to policy-only edits before execution-control actions. - Add seven route tests for rejected mixed requests and absent policy updates. - Keep automatic retry waits separate from monitor cancellation. - Add component and task page tests. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - Monitor banner and task page tests passed: 199 tests. A targeted database test and seven route tests also passed. - UI typecheck and production build passed. - Open a task with a scheduled monitor. Select X, then Keep monitor. The schedule must remain. - Select X, then Cancel monitor. The card must disappear after the update. - Local full build reached the Rust runner build but could not complete because Cargo is absent. CI must verify the full build. - Full repository typecheck, build, test suites, and E2E checks passed in CI for the final commit. Local full checks were limited by missing Cargo and workspace memory. ## Risks - Low risk. Cancellation uses the existing company access checks and activity log. - A cancelled monitor no longer wakes the agent. The dialog explains this effect. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context window size. Used code editing, shell commands, and tests.

Fix unavailable workspace branches with an inline repair and retry (#15726)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - Isolated workspaces must resolve a starting Git ref before an agent starts. > - A task can explicitly select a branch that the repository does not have. > - The current recovery notice calls this a missing secret and offers no branch repair. > - This pull request explains the branch failure and adds a task-scoped repair action. > - Operators can correct the branch and request a guarded retry from the task thread. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: Refs #11892 added unresolved-ref recovery. Refs #15719 added bounded failure diagnostics. This change uses that recovery path and adds its operator repair UI. **What happened?** A task that selects `main` in a repository with only `master` stops before the adapter starts. The task shows a missing-secret message and a generic retry. Repeating the run cannot fix the stored branch setting. **Expected behavior** Explain that the starting ref could not be resolved. Offer a verified repository default, or let the operator enter a branch. Save only the task's starting branch and retry its recorded owner through the existing admission gates. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create an isolated-workspace task in a repository with `master` and no `main`. 2. Set the task's base ref to `main` and assign an agent. 3. Wait for the configuration failure. 4. Use the inline branch repair and confirm the agent completes in a worktree based on `master`. ## What Changed - Replace the missing-secret diagnosis for unresolved workspace refs. Keep uncertain fetch/access failures described as uncertain. - Read the remote's advertised default branch with the existing Git credentials and a bounded timeout. Do not guess or silently change the branch. - Add an atomic branch repair to the existing recovery resolution endpoint. Check company access, board runtime permission, incident identity, current owner, task/project state, dependencies, interactions, approvals, budget, and active execution before requesting a retry. - Preserve the effective inherited workspace setup when saving the task branch override, and attach one repair notice per failed run even when the incident is reused. - Bind the shared repair card to the exact recovery notice and failed run in both task-thread renderers. Validate branch syntax and prevent duplicate submissions. - Add Storybook examples, regression tests, and a documented local acceptance fixture with a real Git repository and process adapter. ## Verification - Red/green regressions cover the repair endpoint and preservation of inherited agent setup. The regression failed before each fix and passed afterward. - Focused integration suite: 162 tests passed; task-thread/card suite: 230 passed. After review refinements, all 13 repair-route tests, 10 card tests, 77 recovery-action tests, and the repeated-failure heartbeat regression passed locally. - Real browser acceptance passed for suggested-branch and custom-entry repairs. Invalid syntax left the task blocked. Both valid repairs ran the authenticated worker in a real isolated worktree and reached Done; reload preserved the result. - Repeated failures reused the recovery incident and retained an actionable notice on the latest run. The inherited-setup journey verified the provisioned file, agent branch template, worktree parent directory, and actual Git commit before completing. [Before/after screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15726#issuecomment-6088734666). - Full local typecheck and build passed; server typecheck passed again after review fixes. Token gates passed. - The monolithic local Vitest run was stopped after resource-contention timeouts and stale assertions. Targeted regressions were rerun; the full CI matrix passed on final revision `26c543ff490bec29ddc77a49ee532c7f84fb96dc`. One signoff E2E worker-cancellation failure passed on a rerun without code changes. The two opt-in Storybook workflow jobs were skipped; the Storybook journey was checked manually. - Repeat the live journey with `tests/e2e/workspace-base-ref/README.md`. Storybook examples use simulated callbacks and are not the live acceptance proof. ## Risks - Default-branch discovery can add up to 10 seconds to an unresolved-ref failure. Lookup failure leaves manual entry available. - A valid branch name can still be absent or inaccessible. The retried workspace preparation remains authoritative and can block again with new evidence. - Retry remains subject to normal admission gates. The repair changes only the task override; it does not alter project or agent defaults. - No database migration or new dependency. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool execution, repository analysis, and browser testing. The exact serving variant and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): make pull request review waits visible (#15375)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people supervise agent work and review its outputs. > - A task can wait for a human to review a pull request while an agent schedules checks. > - The PR work product and detected external links use separate display paths. > - A private PR can disappear from the useful sidebar view when its provider lookup fails. > - The monitor countdown says when the next check runs but omits the saved review request. > - This change shows the saved PR and requested review in the task's existing surfaces. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task kept checking whether a private GitHub PR had merged. Its work product requested board review, but the Properties sidebar used detected external objects instead. The PR URL was stored only in metadata, which the PR refresh path did not read. The composer showed a generic monitor countdown with no PR link or review action. **Expected behavior** Show saved PR links even if provider access fails. During a GitHub monitor wait, make outstanding review requests visible with the next check time and a status-check action. Stop requesting review when a PR merges or closes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Register a PR work product with `reviewState: needs_board_review` and its URL in `metadata.url`. 2. Schedule an external-service monitor for GitHub. 3. Open the task with external-object lookup unavailable or unable to access the private repository. 4. Inspect Properties and the composer wait strip. Related work: #14469 added rich artifact cards. #8759 addresses attention on monitored task blockers. This change uses the existing work products and monitor action; it adds no blocker or approval mechanism. ## What Changed - Show saved PRs in Properties, including metadata-only links, independent of external-object availability. - Deduplicate equivalent GitHub PR URLs while preserving the saved navigation link, and put explicit review requests first. - Keep provider status and freshness on the combined PR row; keep private PR links usable when lookup fails. - Show the saved PR review request above the composer and in the existing monitor banner during a GitHub monitor wait. - Label the existing monitor action `Check status` and show check failures inline. - Suppress review prompts for merged, closed, or archived PRs even if their review flag is stale. - Refresh PR metadata using `metadata.url` and the existing `repository` alias. - Share saved work-product reads across the thread, Properties, and Artifacts. Refresh GitHub in a separate query and enrich only matching PR versions. - Start a fresh saved-row request on live invalidation so late provider responses cannot hide new artifacts or changed review requests. - Cover stalled GitHub lookups in both panels so refresh latency cannot hide saved work. - Scope monitor-check mutation state to the task so failures and late responses do not leak across navigation. - Refresh GitHub status when the displayed run finishes, including when saved PR rows have not changed. - Clarify that PR review and external release handoffs need a saved human-input interaction with an agent assigned for continuation; a flag, monitor, or handoff comment alone does not create that card. ## Verification - 386 tests pass across eleven affected UI and server suites on `184c7d8746`. Regressions cover saved links, provider status, cold-cache loading, panel reopening, monitor errors during navigation, and live updates during provider refresh. - Three live-update regressions and two run-completion regressions fail before their fixes and pass afterward. These tests use the real API client's GET coalescing and abort handling. - Full repository typecheck and build passed on the merged parent `1a49112dd2`. The latest UI changes pass UI typecheck and token gates; CI also verifies the latest build. Capability contract/inventory checks pass. - Storybook build and browser checks passed before the query race fix. Browser checks cover desktop and 390px mobile review waits, plus video, mixed-file, and empty artifact galleries after background refresh. - The earlier full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped under disk pressure. It reported failures outside the changed suites; an isolated skill-cache run reproduced three existing macOS permission failures. The full local suite was not rerun for this follow-up. - Latest-head CI passes on `184c7d8746`, including the browser shards and canary dry run. Apex is 5/5 with no actionable findings and no unresolved threads. All eight reported findings are addressed. ## Risks - This uses saved PR review state. When GitHub access fails, the saved state can remain stale until the agent updates it. The link remains visible and the status check remains available. - `Check status` wakes the existing monitor owner. It does not merge a PR, accept an approval, or mark the task done. - No schema, permissions, or scheduler behavior changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code editing, and test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — 277 affected tests - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stabilize mobile task reading and document navigation (#15228)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People read tasks and send instructions from phones as well as desktop browsers. > - The mobile footer let page text show through its labels, and small text fields made Safari zoom on focus. > - Small scroll changes made the footer switch direction, and its changing page padding moved the conversation. > - Task pages also showed comments before question cards and run history arrived, so the composer and reading position moved again. > - Document links also used native navigation, which reset the reading position or reloaded a task through its UUID URL. Desktop tabs were crowded in the mobile drawer. > - This pull request keeps navigation steady, opens documents in the mounted task, and gives mobile readers a full-height panel with a vertical tab selector. > - The benefit is a stable task view and smoother scrolling on mobile. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The mobile footer was translucent. Safari zoomed when a person focused a small text field. The footer switched abruptly while scrolling. A large task could show saved comments, then move the page again when a question card or run history arrived. In a local test with delayed responses, a late question moved the mobile composer by about 374 pixels. Opening a plan from the feed could reset the view or reload the task through a UUID link. The mobile document drawer left part of the feed exposed above small desktop tab controls. **Expected behavior** The footer has an opaque surface and moves smoothly after deliberate scrolling. Text fields do not cause automatic focus zoom. A task shows its initial conversation and composer together at the final scroll position. Background refreshes keep the existing conversation visible. Document links open in the mounted task with its existing cache and reading position. Mobile documents fill the viewport, show a clear close button, and offer a vertical list of open tabs. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with many long comments and a pending question in iOS Safari. 2. Delay its interactions, activity, and runs responses by different amounts. 3. Reload the page and watch the conversation and composer move as each response arrives. 4. Scroll down and back up, including small direction changes and edge bounce. 5. Focus the task composer, search field, and new-task title and description. 6. Open a plan or another task document from the feed, including a link that uses the task UUID. Close the panel and check the reading position. 7. Open several documents on a phone. Switch tabs and close both active and inactive tabs. **Paperclip version or commit** Developed from `1c07b5903` and rebased onto `59015846a`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Tested in an isolated local test drive with iOS 26.5 Simulator Safari and Chrome. A temporary local proxy delayed independent responses for the layout test. Related work found in the duplicate search: - Refs #14727. It made saved replies appear before supporting history. This PR keeps its parallel requests and narrows the tradeoff in favor of a stable first layout. - Refs #14667. This open PR takes a different approach with per-run placeholders and retries. This PR fixes the observed question/composer movement and mobile navigation behavior. - Refs #13095 and #13597. These earlier fixes added task scroll anchors and skipped transcript waits for scheduled retries. - Refs #6550. Earlier mobile board polish. - Refs #9467. This related open PR changes list and generic tab reflow. The task-pane selector uses a separate component. ## What Changed - Give the mobile footer an opaque semantic surface. - Set a base-size floor for editable text on touch devices to prevent Safari focus zoom. Preserve larger title text. - Share mobile scroll tracking between both layouts. Accumulate scroll distance, ignore edge bounce and changed document bounds, and update once per frame. - Use shared motion tokens for the footer and composer. Keep page padding stable and honor reduced motion. - Wait for the initial question cards, attachments, work products, activity, runtime selection, plan, and relevant transcript history before the first reveal. Skip scheduled retries and older runs outside the initial comment window. - Bound the first reveal to 15 seconds. A stalled supporting request leaves saved conversation and the composer accessible with an explicit loading notice. - Keep concealed mobile history from stretching the document. Keep the composer mounted but concealed until the same reveal. Keep both visible during later refreshes. - Route first and repeated same-task document clicks in place. Recognize UUID and identifier links. Preserve the thread history entry and feed position. Keep modifier clicks, downloads, external links, and classic document behavior. - Give the mobile task panel the full viewport and safe-area padding. Use a visible X and 44-pixel touch controls. Replace the horizontal tab strip with a vertical selector that wraps titles and supports keyboard focus. - Add four interactive Storybook states for a few tabs, long names, many tabs, and the last tab. Reuse the production selector and tab controller. - Add navigation and tab regressions, update first-reveal regressions, and document the behavior in `DESIGN.md`. ## Verification - 392 tests passed across the seven focused task-loading, scroll, mobile-navigation, layout, and composer suites. After review fixes, all 339 tests across the four affected suites passed, including stalled-loading fallback on mobile and desktop and the motion-token catalog. - All 442 focused document, tab, task-thread, and scroll tests pass. The final click-propagation cleanup also passes all 136 task-detail tests. UI typecheck, UI production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - All four cases in `artifact-tab-arrival.spec.ts` and `text-attachment-tabs.spec.ts` pass locally, covering desktop and mobile selection, composer focus, document rendering, and downloads of the original bytes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passed. Open the mobile tab stories under `Prototypes/Task detail/Mobile tabs`. - A local diagnostic proxy measured cached plan content at about 250 ms after the first click. The HTML load count and task request count did not change. Feed scroll stayed at the same position. First, repeated, and UUID document links were tested at phone and desktop widths. Task-reference links close their preview before the document reader opens. - In Chrome at desktop and phone widths, the delayed-response task showed one complete reveal. The late question no longer moved an already visible composer. - In iOS Simulator Safari, verified the large-task reload, opaque footer, navigation hide/reveal, and search/new-task/composer focus without automatic zoom. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. The updated UI also passes typecheck, production build, and token gates. - All 54 checks pass on the final commit `bf5c9914e61833e7cc8794a69d72cf8c7057b952` (two additional checks are intentionally skipped). Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5, and all review threads are resolved. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted but stopped after server-fixture failures. Embedded PostgreSQL startup failure reproduced in an isolated native-interaction fixture after five startup attempts. The broad run also reported a rapid Slack callback ordering test failure. These server paths are unchanged by this PR, and their CI shards pass on the latest head. The full local suite is not claimed as passing. - A localhost proxy stalled the activity response for 30 seconds. Chrome revealed the available conversation after the 15-second deadline at both desktop and phone widths, kept the composer accessible, and cleared the loading notice when the response arrived. ## Risks Slow initial history requests can delay the first conversation reveal by up to 15 seconds. If that deadline expires, late data can change the available conversation while a loading notice remains visible. The reveal waits only for runs in the initial comment window, and later refreshes do not conceal an existing conversation. The larger editable text can change line wrapping on phones. Mobile navigation and composer motion use shared tokens and respect reduced-motion settings. Mobile tab selection changes the control layout. Document links retain URL history while sharing the task reading position; other tasks and external links keep their normal navigation behavior. I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This is a fix for existing UI behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. The agent used reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and Chrome and iOS Simulator testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve steering and recover stopped task conversations (#15015)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A task conversation must let a user guide a running agent and resume stopped work. > - The active run owns its input protocol, even when the user changes the next model or effort. > - Queue delivery waits for a provider receipt, which must be able to persist during the request. > - A stopped startup also needs a clear user action that passes normal task admission. > - This pull request fixes steering delivery, makes queue actions immediate, and restores explicit continuation. > - The benefit is a responsive conversation that can recover without losing saved input. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A queued message could change from Steer to Interrupt while a native run prepared. A steer request could wait on its own database lock and fail to deliver. A stopped startup could then leave the conversation without a working Retry or message continuation. Interrupt also waited for the server and showed a toast. **Expected behavior** The active run keeps its input protocol. Steer delivers input to that run. Steer and Interrupt clear the submitted queue rows and show the input in the conversation immediately. Failed delivery restores the latest queue with an inline error. An eligible stopped run offers Retry, and authenticated user input can start a fresh turn through normal task admission. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a task with a native Paperclip Runner. 2. Change the selected model or effort while that run prepares. 3. Queue a message and press Steer. 4. Observe the provider receipt and queue state during the request. 5. Stop a startup before its provider process begins, then try Retry or send a new message. 6. Repeat queued delivery with a legacy runner and press Interrupt. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on the parent of this branch, `59c07ede7`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated private deployment. The fixes also cover local task conversations. Related work: Refs #12834, Refs #13354, Refs #13275. The open refactor in #13160 moves the same queue route; it does not fix the receipt lock or stopped-run continuation addressed here. ## What Changed - Select queue behavior from the active run's immutable dispatch and runtime resolution. - Leave the run row unlocked during provider acknowledgement, then lock and read it before merging the receipt. - Retain queued input if the target run stops during that wait. Keep inline delivery errors visible after empty queue updates. - Permit exact Retry and authenticated continuation after verified native startup cancellation. Preserve pause, approval, budget, ownership, and process-stop gates. - Carry undelivered native queue input into a fresh turn once the old execution is confirmed stopped. - Show Steer and Interrupt input in the conversation and clear submitted composer rows immediately. Restore the latest queue inline on failure. Remove delivery toasts. - Keep optimistic delivery stable across stale polls, empty queues, and paginated history. Preserve classic Interrupt error handling. - Document recovery and optimistic delivery behavior. Add regression tests across server, shared queue projection, and UI boundaries. ## Verification - Red-green regression tests reproduced the queue protocol, receipt lock, stopped-startup continuation, and optimistic delivery failures. - The focused server route, continuation, queue, and runner boundary suites passed during implementation. - The queue-route suite passes with 78 tests. The three complete conversation UI suites pass with 347 tests. - UI typecheck, production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. - Workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The local monolithic `pnpm test:run` is still running; remote CI verifies the complete suite on the latest commit. - All CI gates pass on `bd9031ad56abfcde13d13a13488c1b9217c2fd3a`, including the full test shards, runner verification, browser E2E, typecheck, release registry, and canary dry run. - Greptile reports 5/5 for that commit. Both review threads are resolved. ## Risks This changes queue display and explicit continuation admission. The UI must restore rejected delivery without losing other-session edits. The server must preserve concurrent provider result updates and must not resume a process whose stop is uncertain. Focused tests cover these boundaries. This change has no database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, an agent based on GPT-6. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): show agent avatar and align chat header controls (#14726)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - Agent chat shows which agent receives each message. > - The chat header used initials instead of the agent avatar. > - The name and controls did not use the same center alignment. > - This change uses the shared avatar and centers the header content. > - Users can identify the agent and open its settings from the same row. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The agent chat header showed initials instead of the agent avatar. The settings control did not align with the name and avatar. **Expected behavior** Show the agent avatar. Put the avatar, name, and settings control on the same horizontal center line. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Enable Agent Chat in Experimental settings. 2. Open a conversation with an agent that has an appearance set. 3. Check the avatar and settings control in the top bar. Related navigation work: #14706. ## What Changed - Use `AgentAvatar` in the conversation breadcrumb. - Update the breadcrumb key when the agent appearance changes. - Center breadcrumb labels that have an adjacent action. Keep task identifier baseline alignment unchanged. - Add regression checks for avatar props, appearance changes, and center alignment. ## Verification - PASS: affected Vitest suites, 129 tests. - PASS: `pnpm check:token-gates`. - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` on an isolated retry. - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`. - PASS: browser checks at 1000 and 390 CSS pixels. Avatar, name, and settings control all have center Y = 29.5 CSS pixels. - Screenshots use the real header and avatar renderer with isolated context fixtures. No screenshot or fixture is part of this diff. - Full typecheck and build cannot complete because Cargo is not installed. - Full tests stopped with SIGKILL. The first UI typecheck also stopped with exit 137. These runs do not prove full-suite success. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only affects UI rendering. It changes no API or database contract. - Breadcrumbs with adjacent actions now use center alignment. Ordinary task identifiers keep baseline alignment. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex agent, with code editing, shell tools, and browser checks. The runtime did not expose the exact model ID or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge No behavior or command documentation needs an update for this rendering fix. fix(interactions): wait for workspace readiness before enabling approval (#14893)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and review their work. > - Task confirmations must use the work produced by their source run. > - The server blocks approval while that run still needs to sync its workspace. > - The card currently enables approval before that check can pass, so an ordinary click produces an error. > - This PR exposes the existing readiness check and shows “Preparing approval…” with acceptance disabled. > - The card refreshes itself and enables approval when the source workspace settles. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A confirmation appears while its source run is still preparing or syncing its workspace. Its enabled approval button returns a conflict asking the user to retry after syncing. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an agent in an isolated workspace. 2. Have it create a confirmation before workspace finalization completes. 3. Click the approval button while the source workspace is still active. **Expected behavior** The card explains that approval is preparing. Acceptance becomes available automatically when the same server check permits it. Reject and revise remain available. Related work: #10770 handles this conflict after a click with retries. #9520 proposes changing the workspace acceptance barrier. This PR preserves that barrier and exposes readiness before the click, including in compact task chat. It preserves the terminal-finalize behavior from #10099. ## What Changed - Add an optional, read-only `acceptanceBlocker` to interaction responses. Readiness uses the existing source-run workspace predicate, with one check per pending source run. - Disable acceptance and show a shared preparation notice in classic and compact confirmation cards, including checkbox and secret-binding confirmations. - Refresh preparing cards every two seconds in task detail, attention, pipelines, and Skill Studio. Restore each surface's previous polling cadence when preparation clears. - Preserve live tool reviews, questions, rejection, revision, and the server acceptance barrier. No automatic acceptance occurs. - Document the preparation state and cover readiness, terminal sync outcomes, unrelated runs, historical cards, and automatic refresh. ## Verification - Focused service, card, query-refresh, and helper tests: 217 passed across five files. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm build-storybook`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm test:run`: incomplete locally. Stopped after about 17 minutes once it reproduced seven existing environment failures: two Slack tests and two email tests lack ancestor-directory skill fixtures; three company-skills tests fail on macOS runtime-cache staging permissions. These are outside this change. The full CI test matrix passed. - CI: all 53 checks passed; two optional Storybook jobs were skipped. The branch has no conflicts with `master`. - Greptile: 5/5 on commit `8a6f216d8d`, with no review threads. - Reviewed added lines and new files for credentials, private URLs, internal task references, user paths, and run artifacts. None found. ## Risks - No database migration or change to acceptance authorization. Readiness is advisory; the server still enforces its existing gate at acceptance. - An open preparing card adds a read every two seconds. This cadence stops after readiness clears; historical cards add no workspace checks. - Failed or stale finalization retains the existing server behavior. This PR does not change recovery policy. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository inspection, tool execution, and automated tests. No sub-agents. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (217 focused tests; full local-suite limitations are recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): make AgentMail a default connection with inline setup (#14772)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents access to external services. > - AgentMail needs both a saved key and an inbox assigned to the agent. > - Chat requests offered a setup link instead of an inline card and could treat a saved key as complete. > - Inbox setup also hid address conflicts behind a generic server error and a separate review step. > - This pull request makes AgentMail a default connection, adds the inline card, reduces setup to two steps, and shows conflicts beside the address. > - Shared native dropdown styles also give every caret a consistent inset. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** AgentMail requests in chat did not show a usable inline connection card. Manual setup required extra screens, ignored saved account keys, and could trap new-address setup in a locked inbox dropdown. Agent selectors omitted the avatar from the selected value. A taken address could produce an HTTP 403 from AgentMail and appear as an internal server error. Native dropdown arrows also touched the right edge of their fields. **Expected behavior** Make AgentMail available as a default connection. Ask for the API key inline, with a direct link to its provider page. Default human access to the company and agent access to the requesting agent. Resume the agent only after an assigned inbox is active. Manual setup should ask for an agent and email address, then finish. Address checks should run as the user types. Taken addresses should show clickable alternatives. A domain dropdown beside the name should prefer a verified custom domain. Setup should suggest authorized saved AgentMail keys and show agent avatars in the picker and selected value. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to connect AgentMail when it has no assigned inbox. 2. Check that an inline API-key card appears and links to the provider's API-key page. 3. Open AgentMail setup, choose an agent, and request an address that is already taken. 4. Correct the inline error, refresh, and finish setup with the same request ID. 5. Inspect native dropdown carets in light, dark, disabled, and right-to-left states. Uses the bounded provider-error parser merged in #14768. Related work: #13256 introduced AgentMail; #14725 expanded connection search. ## What Changed - Stop recurring email queries for tasks that have no email thread. Share the query between the thread provider and activity view. Keep email-task updates and invalidation-based discovery. - Make AgentMail available without the experimental chat setting. Keep the catalog, setup and management routes, agent Channels tab, task email feed, receiving worker, and agent tools available by default. Other experimental chat providers stay gated. - Make the email address and copy icon a single clickable action with the shared Copied! confirmation. Add View inbox linking directly to the matching AgentMail console inbox, with the address encoded as one URL path segment. - Reorganize inbox Settings around the copyable email address, usage instructions, and receiving status. Move reconnect credentials into a disclosure and separate the Disconnect action. Add production Settings stories for active, paused, unassigned-address, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect states. Show repair controls when the inbox has an error. Keep usage instructions tied to an active inbox with an address. - Add AgentMail channel intents and an inline key field with the direct API-key URL. - Keep setup and retry state tied to the interaction. Require an active inbox for completion. Preserve company and agent access checks. - Reduce manual setup to agent selection and email selection. Put the domain dropdown beside the address and default to a verified custom domain. Preserve explicit choices across reloads. Keep receiving settings under Advanced options. - Check the initial address and edits after a 350 ms pause. Abort superseded requests and ignore stale responses. Show clickable suggestions and retain known creation conflicts across reloads. - Add a company-scoped, manager-only address check using the saved credential. Search the visible inbox list instead of fetching an uncreated inbox: live AgentMail retains negative lookups that can break subsequent access-key creation. Unlisted addresses remain unknown; creation is authoritative. - Suggest labeled saved AgentMail keys in both manual setup and the inline card. Filter by company, provider, active credential, and current-user grants on the server. Prefer an account key and preserve the selected key or an explicit new-key choice across refresh. Use verified scope metadata and bounded concurrent checks for legacy keys. Never return secret values. - Catch an inbox-only key before the email step. Allow its existing inbox only after an explicit choice. Recover old locked drafts at the key picker. Save the replacement key before retiring an empty draft, then use a new setup URL so refresh preserves the switched account; stop if cleanup fails. Preserve already allocated addresses and their original accounts. - Use the shared AgentSelect in email setup. Show the canonical agent avatar in each option and the selected value, including other consumers of the shared component. Add regression coverage for legacy and current Lucide agent-mention icon formats. - Start each catalog Add connection with a fresh setup identity. Honor Finish setup's exact draft/account/address instead of resuming an unrelated browser draft. Return Cancel and Done to Connectors and Email settings to the inbox. Group the task/thread explanation in a How it Works card. - Route AgentMail catalog removal through the email inbox control API, including unfinished drafts. Refresh both the catalog and inbox views. - Render each inbox management tab separately. Access uses the saved account grants and agent controls; Conversations and Activity use the shared persisted email feed. Activity lifecycle actions use the email API. Reconnect returns to inbox Settings. Conversation failures show a retry instead of a false empty state. Email delivery recovery stays in the task. - Map documented provider address conflicts to a field error. Preserve actionable messages for other failures. - Preserve non-secret draft fields across refresh, scoped to the requested agent. Never save API keys in browser storage. Resume partial inbox creation with the original agent, address, and request ID. - Show an already-created address with explicit retry and new-address recovery instead of locked inputs. Preserve the original inbox and resumable draft when choosing another address. Distinguish runtime-key 404 errors and log safe provider status/operation/code. - Apply final agent access once within email setup authorization for a new account whose original installs are unchanged. Preserve later permission edits and reused account installs. Support in-place retry of progress loading. - Let a failed inline setup change keys after retiring an empty draft. Persist its replacement setup identity without storing secrets. Recover a server-saved account when refresh interrupts the save response, while preserving intentional account changes. - Render the production setup in Storybook and add error, recovery, and mobile states. - Inset native select carets in shared CSS. Preserve custom icons, listboxes, keyboard behavior, and forced-color controls. - Add browser regression coverage and an AgentMail Product E2E case with persisted-state and rendered-card evidence. ## Verification - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm check:token-gates`, and `git diff --check` passed after the default-availability change. - All 485 focused tests passed. These cover setup, management, catalog and route gates, connection intents, email authorization, Cursor execution, and the OpenAPI contract. All 39 email integration tests run with the experimental chat setting off. - The shared polling change passed four behavioral tests, UI typecheck and build, and token gates. - `tests/e2e/agentmail.spec.ts` passed with the actual server setting off. This full-stack browser test uses simulated provider responses. It covers catalog entry, saved keys, editable address and domain controls, creation, conflicts, retry, all management tabs, clipboard feedback, the provider link, and task email rendering. - In the live local browser, Add connection reached the editable email step with the saved account key. The verified custom domain was selected by default. Both domain choices worked. The existing inbox Settings page remained available. Both active inboxes completed new mail checks with the setting off. No new provider inbox or email message was created for this pass. - Earlier live provider acceptance covered creation on a verified custom domain, Finish connecting on the reported draft, successful mail checks after refresh, and catalog removal of disposable draft and active connections. Clicking the email address copied the exact address and showed Copied!. View inbox opened the same inbox in AgentMail’s console. No email messages were sent. - Production setup and Settings Storybook builds and interactions passed. Settings states include active, paused, unassigned, revoked, webhook, long-address, mobile, and reconnect. Receiving and revoked-access stories had zero accessibility violations. - Full local `pnpm test:run` on an earlier revision completed with 14,709 passing, 87 skipped, and four transient failures. All four failed cases passed in focused reruns without product changes. That serial full local command was not repeated after each follow-up. The latest-head full CI suite is the final test gate. - CI found an obsolete browser assertion that hid every channel when the flag was off. Updated it to keep AgentMail and the Channels surface visible while preserving the GitHub chat route gates. All 11 provider browser tests passed locally after scoping the Channels selector to the agent sidebar. Two initial local attempts stopped at temporary Postgres initialization. The passing run used a separate disposable database on the existing local Postgres server; it was removed after the test. - Updated the remaining sidebar and aggregator discovery assertions for default AgentMail availability. Ordinary task fixtures now return no email thread. All 128 sidebar/task-page tests and all 42 aggregator tests passed locally. - Latest head `b42bb4cd5cc9f2d01a99ab8026832d5a956ea85f`: full CI passed, with 54 successful checks including Snyk and two intentional Storybook skips. The CI run is https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37020833647. A fresh Greptile review scored 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Live model evaluations and inbound/outbound email delivery were not run. ## Risks - AgentMail no longer needs experimental opt-in. Setup still requires a human to connect an account and assign an inbox. Inline setup creates an inbox after a human submits a new or saved key. Company access, agent access, inbox assignment, and completion checks remain enforced. - AgentMail read APIs cannot prove global address availability. The visible-list check is bounded to 100 entries and cannot see inboxes outside the key’s scope. The UI reports this limitation, suggests alternatives without claiming they are free, and keeps final creation conflicts inline. Lookup outages show an error without preventing the authoritative creation attempt. - Native select CSS affects the whole app. Custom-icon selects and multi-row lists are excluded. Forced-color mode keeps the browser caret. - Saved-key discovery uses stored verified scope metadata and checks authorized legacy credentials concurrently within a shared three-second deadline. perf: reveal task content sooner and parallelize issue reads (#14727)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - A task page must show saved replies quickly so a person can read the work. > - The title could appear while the conversation waited for unrelated metadata and transcripts. > - Thread requests also waited for enriched task details, while the server read several independent fields in sequence. > - This change shows saved content as soon as it is ready, starts thread reads earlier, and runs independent server reads together. > - Native event history takes priority over legacy log fallback, and mentioned tasks load on intent. > - Content-free timing spans make the remaining server delays visible without recording task content. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Task titles and properties appeared quickly, but saved conversation content stayed hidden for several more seconds while metadata and run transcripts loaded. **Expected behavior** Saved replies and the task description should be readable without waiting for supporting history. Returning to a cached task should show content within a frame or two. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with saved comments and completed runs. 2. Delay the task activity and runs responses by five seconds in the browser. 3. Observe whether saved content remains hidden until those responses finish. 4. Navigate away and return to the task to check cached navigation. **Paperclip version or commit** The change was developed from `1b48e73e0` and rebased onto `44736c9c7`. **Deployment mode** Built from source, tested in an authenticated staging deployment and with local response replay. Related: #14667 overlaps the transcript reveal behavior and adds separate retry UX. This PR also changes navigation prefetch, parent metadata gates, native log fallback, server read scheduling, and timing spans. #12647 proposes a separate SQL predicate optimization in the runs service. #13597 and #13095 are earlier loading fixes. ## What Changed - Start activity and runs when the task page mounts, alongside task details and comments, using the route reference for shared query keys. Hover/focus prefetch does not start full history reads. - Reveal saved comments and descriptions while metadata and transcripts load. Preserve strict waits for linked-comment navigation and tasks with only runtime content. - For settled native runs, fetch legacy logs only when event history is empty or fails. Preserve live-log subscriptions for queued and running native runs. Fetch mentioned-task details on hover or focus. - Run independent issue-detail enrichment and run metadata reads in parallel while preserving recovery dependencies. - Add `Server-Timing` phases and opt-in OpenTelemetry spans, plus regression tests and observability documentation. ## Verification - **313 tests passed** across the initial seven focused component, cache, timing, and scroll suites. After review fixes, **313 tests passed** across five task-page, cache, prefetch, and live-transcript suites (`pnpm exec vitest run` with `--maxWorkers=1`; these sets overlap). - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed locally before the final UI-only review fixes. UI typecheck/build and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed after those fixes. The final commit also passes full typecheck and build in CI. - The full local Vitest run was attempted. Several unrelated embedded PostgreSQL fixtures failed to start, and parallel test workers hit timeouts. Focused reruns passed. A later local full-suite rerun was stopped after the complete CI suite passed; it is not claimed as a local full-suite pass. - Final commit `d1e147145`: **54 checks passed, 2 skipped**, including all server/workspace test shards, all eight browser E2E shards, full build/typecheck, Runner checks, release registry, and canary clean-install verification. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36734642034). Greptile **5/5** after two reviews; both findings fixed and all review threads resolved. No merge conflicts. - Live browser tests on an existing task with two saved replies: median full reload to visible content fell from **1.92 s** (3 samples) to **1.40 s** (5 samples). Cached return fell from **421 ms** (1 sample) to **29 ms** (3 samples). These are observed samples, not a performance guarantee. - With activity and runs delayed by five seconds, saved content appeared in **1.38 s** on desktop and **1.33 s** on mobile. The inspected comment did not move when metadata arrived. Verified history expansion, task properties, pending-input navigation, dashboard return, and mobile layout. - A separate local replay with fixed responses reduced visible-content time from **5.12 s** to **2.15 s**. This isolates frontend behavior and is not a live-server benchmark. ## Risks Progressive history can change the thread after first paint. Existing anchor behavior is retained and covered by tests and delayed-response browser checks. Query aliases must stay aligned for invalidation. Parallel reads can increase short bursts of database work; dependent recovery operations remain ordered. Full reloads still depend on network and task-detail latency. No schema or authorization change. OpenTelemetry remains disabled without an operator endpoint. The added spans use a closed set of phase names and carry no task IDs, task content, or exception text. I checked `ROADMAP.md`; this is a performance fix within the existing task page. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. The agent used reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and Chrome performance profiling. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Browser Use Cloud connector and live task browsers (#14627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps gateway gives agents governed access to external tools. > - Browser Use Cloud can run browser work, but a tool result alone does not let a person watch or take over. > - A task needs a durable browser session, a visible viewer, and recorded costs. > - This pull request adds a Browser Use Cloud v4 connection and interactive browser tabs on tasks. > - People can follow the work, interact with the page, and retain the browser after the agent finishes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need governed access to Browser Use Cloud. People need to see and interact with the same browser from the task. A browser must remain available after a run finishes and appear at the correct point in the task feed. **Proposed solution** Add a native REST connection for the v4 API. Bind each session to its company, task, agent, and credential grant. Open its interactive viewer in the task side panel. Record provider costs as financial events. Use `browser-use-cloud` as the app and connector key. Keep its skill with the connector and deliver it only with authorized connection tools. **Alternatives considered** A v3 MCP connection would expose tools without the v4 lifecycle integration. An external viewer link would leave the task. A fixed viewer size would prevent pages from responding to changes in the task pane. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the governed Apps gateway and Connected Apps roadmap. It uses the existing task, grant, secret, approval, and financial records. The work was requested by the maintainer. A search found no duplicate Browser Use connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Browser Use Cloud app, brand asset, API-key connection, and profile settings under the `browser-use-cloud` key. - Bundle the `browser-use-cloud` skill with the connector. Keep it out of global `skills/` discovery. Deliver it only with authorized task/run connection tools. Remove retired connector skill keys from runtime overlays and preserve unrelated browser skills. - Expose seven v4 tools through the governed gateway and deliver them to native and CLI agents. - Persist sessions, browsers, runs, event and recovery cursors, shutdown leases, and cumulative cost accounting. Recover uncertain paid starts without replaying them. - Enforce task ownership, credential grants, approvals, revoked access, and budget limits. - Add interactive task browser tabs and compact chronological feed entries. Retain the viewer across tab switches and keep visible idle browsers open. - Add debounced automatic viewport fitting, standard size presets, and a viewer ownership lease. - Add lifecycle, authorization, accounting, viewport, UI, and Storybook coverage. - Add an idempotent database migration after the current master migration. Preserve deployed migration hashes. Migrate pre-release Cloud connection and financial keys without replacing grants, credentials, or browser history. - Document provider behavior, live acceptance results, and the lack of documented passkey forwarding. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and production build pass on the updated branch. - Token gates, brand asset validation, module boundaries, and migration ordering pass. - Cloud tests verify global skill exclusion, authorized task/run delivery, unassigned agents, disabled connections, revocation, adapter isolation, and secret exclusion. The existing AgentMail connector assignment test also passes. - Migration replay runs twice against existing browser work and financial records. It preserves the records and avoids duplicate costs. - The focused provider, app catalog, OpenAPI, connection gateway, and migration regression suites pass. Recovery coverage includes lost replies, process crashes, provider rejection, and browser arrival acknowledgement. - All 54 checks pass on `2974b5f03641ad0cea3c941d8c02579316fa8c92`, including the full test matrix, browser E2E shards, build, typecheck, security, and release canary. Two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit, with zero unresolved review threads. The corrected review uses the actual master-to-head diff. - The local `pnpm test:run` started and was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It did not complete locally; the full-suite result above comes from CI. - Earlier live acceptance used an isolated company with a capped provider credential. The agent opened paperclip.ing, the embedded viewer accepted navigation, and the same browser stayed available after completion and tab switches. - The local Storybook build passes. Stories cover the panel, footer, feed entries, settings, lifecycle failures, and viewport modes with an offline viewer fixture. ## Risks - Browser Use charges for hosted work. Provider caps and local budget checks reduce exposure; reported costs can arrive after work completes. - Viewer and CDP URLs grant access to the browser. The server validates and restricts them. They are excluded from agent results and durable event data. - Runtime resizing of v4 agent browsers uses a provider option confirmed by live testing but absent from its published agent schema. Resizing during a click may invalidate coordinates. Fixed presets remain available. - Viewport ownership is process-local and resets on restart. The lifecycle and accounting records remain in the database. - The original intermittent embedded-viewer stall has not been fully diagnosed. A bounded reconnect and active-session recovery cover the observed failure paths. - Live tests did not cover every revocation, approval, rate-limit, or restart case. Deterministic integration tests cover those paths. Passkey forwarding is not claimed. - Unknown create outcomes keep the credential available for cleanup. Run-list absence cannot prove a paid POST was rejected, so recovery stays pending until it can identify provider work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. fix: always enable keyboard shortcuts (#14643)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The web UI has keyboard shortcuts for the inbox, task lists, cases, and task detail, plus global shortcuts such as `c`, `/`, `?`, `[`, and `]` > - Shortcut enablement was an instance-wide General setting until #14141 moved it to a per-user preference that defaults to off > - The move did not carry the old instance value over, so every existing user lost shortcuts on upgrade and had to find a new toggle under Profile settings > - A toggle that only turns off a standard, input-safe feature costs a setting, a database column, two API routes, and a React context for little benefit > - This pull request removes both the instance setting and the personal preference and enables keyboard shortcuts for every signed-in user > - The benefit is one less thing to configure, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and less code to maintain ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14141 (the change that introduced the personal preference). **What existing behavior does this improve?** Keyboard shortcuts in the web UI stay off unless each user turns them on in Profile settings. **Subsystem affected** Web UI shortcuts, Profile settings, instance general settings, the `/api/auth/preferences` routes, and the `user` table. **Current behavior** Shortcuts default to off per user. #14141 moved the toggle from Instance settings → General to Profile settings and did not carry the old instance value over. Users who had shortcuts on lost them after the upgrade and had to find the new toggle. **Proposed behavior** Keyboard shortcuts are always enabled for every signed-in user. There is no instance setting and no personal preference. Shortcuts already ignore key presses inside text inputs and modal dialogs, so an opt-out is not needed. **Reason and benefit** Fewer settings, no silent loss of shortcuts on upgrade, and removal of a database column, two API routes, a query hook, and a React context that existed only to gate this feature. **Breaking changes** `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences` are removed. `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` no longer accepts `keyboardShortcuts`; that schema is strict, so the key now returns 400. `instance.general.keyboardShortcuts` is no longer a valid `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS` key; the parser ignores unknown keys with a warning. ## What Changed - Removed the Keyboard shortcuts section from Profile settings, the `useUserPreferences` hook, `queryKeys.auth.preferences`, and `authApi.getPreferences` / `authApi.updatePreferences`. - Removed `GeneralSettingsContext`. The inbox, legacy inbox, task list, legacy task list, cases, and task detail pages no longer gate their key handlers. - Removed the `enabled` option from `useKeyboardShortcuts`. The app shell always registers the global shortcuts. - Removed `GET` and `PATCH /api/auth/preferences`, their OpenAPI entries, and the `currentUserPreferencesSchema` / `updateCurrentUserPreferencesSchema` validators. - Removed `keyboardShortcuts` from `InstanceGeneralSettings`, the general settings zod schema, the settings service defaults, and `HIDEABLE_GENERAL_SECTIONS`. - Added migration `0289_drop_user_keyboard_shortcuts`, which drops `user.keyboard_shortcuts`. - Updated `AGENTS.md`, `doc/SPEC.md`, `doc/SPEC-implementation.md`, and `docs/deploy/environment-variables.md`. - Parsed the stored general settings row with `instanceGeneralSettingsSchema.strip()` in the feedback vote path, so a retired key left in the row cannot reset the sharing preference to `prompt` and overwrite the stored choice. - Kept every bare global shortcut (`c`, `?`, `[`, `]`, `/`) out of open modal dialogs in `useKeyboardShortcuts`; only `/` had that guard before. - Updated the affected tests and added a Profile settings test that asserts the toggle is gone, a hook test for the modal dialog guard, and a feedback service regression test for the retired-key case. ## Verification - Typecheck passes for `@paperclipai/shared`, `@paperclipai/db` (including the migration numbering and safety checks), `@paperclipai/server`, and `ui`. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/instance-settings-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sentry.test.ts` → 119 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/pages/ProfileSettings.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Cases.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx ui/src/pages/InstanceGeneralSettings.test.tsx` → 286 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/settings-visibility.test.ts` → 16 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx` → 7 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/feedback-service.test.ts` (embedded Postgres) → the new retired-key test passes with the fix and fails without it. - Manual: sign in with no settings changed, open the inbox, press `j` and `k` to move the selection, press `?` to open the cheatsheet. Open Settings → Profile and confirm there is no Keyboard shortcuts section. ## Risks - The migration drops a column. It uses `DROP COLUMN IF EXISTS`, and the column has no readers after this change. If you roll back to a build from before this PR after the migration has run, re-add the column first: `ALTER TABLE "user" ADD COLUMN "keyboard_shortcuts" boolean DEFAULT false NOT NULL;`. The older build's ORM selects that column when it loads users. - Any external client that still sends `keyboardShortcuts` to `PATCH /api/instance/settings/general` receives a 400. No in-repo client does. - Stored `instance_settings.general.keyboardShortcuts` values are stripped on read and ignored. - Users who never turned the toggle on now get shortcuts. The handlers skip text inputs, contenteditable regions, and modal dialogs, so typing is unaffected. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`) in Claude Code, with extended thinking and tool use. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(ui): open text attachments in task tabs (#14297)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent work often ends with a Markdown or plain-text file. > - Task attachments currently open outside the task panel. > - Users need to inspect those files while keeping the task conversation in view. > - This pull request opens text attachments in task tabs and adds rendered, raw, and download controls. > - The same controls work in the mobile task drawer. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Opening a text attachment did not put its content in a task tab. Markdown files had no in-task rendered/raw toggle. **Expected behavior** Open Markdown and text attachments in one reusable task tab. Show Markdown as rendered content or raw text. Download the original file. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Upload a Markdown file and a plain-text file to a task comment. 2. Open each attachment from the task conversation or artifact list. 3. Switch Markdown between Rendered and Raw. Download both files. 4. Repeat at a mobile viewport width. Related work: #14193 controls artifact tab arrival. This change adds text attachment content tabs. ## What Changed - Route text attachment opens from conversation and artifact cards into task tabs. - Add a text attachment panel with accessible Rendered, Raw, and Download controls. - Preserve ordinary links for other file types. - Support the selected attachment in the mobile drawer. - Keep text-tab actions on the current rich artifact cards, including CSV previews. - Render attachment image references and diagram source without loading media URLs. - Add browser regression tests, component tests, Storybook examples, and usage documentation. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and UI token gates pass locally. - All 6,960 UI tests pass. The additional media regression passes against the real Markdown renderer and fails before the fix. CSV coverage verifies direct downloads and text tabs after preview. - Both desktop and mobile browser cases pass locally. They check rendered/raw Markdown, literal plain text, reusable tabs, review controls, and exact original download bytes. The local fixture used a separate database port because an existing socket occupied the default range. - The full CI test matrix passes on `82be5efbef26927b237a031725bb3d7fa79f637f`. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after this CI result; it did not complete locally. - Greptile is 5/5 on the final commit. All review threads are resolved, and the security scan passes. - All 54 final-head checks pass, including the canary dry run. The two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. ## Risks - Text attachment links now open in the task panel. Other content types keep their existing link behavior. - File display still depends on the existing authenticated attachment route. There are no API or database changes. - Raw text is displayed as text, including strings that look like HTML. Rendered Markdown keeps media references inert. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution, browser testing, and subagent tool use. The runtime does not expose an exact serving model variant or context-window size. Recovered earlier implementation changes were reviewed and tested; their exact model metadata is unavailable. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): improve task composer controls and pending input (#14322)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets operators assign tasks to AI agents and review their work. > - The task composer controls the next message and its assigned agent. > - Operators needed a way to choose that agent's model and effort without leaving the composer. > - The old mode selector, upload button, and input cards made the mobile composer crowded and hid normal messaging during a pending decision. > - Harnesses publish different model and effort capabilities, so the picker must follow the selected agent. > - This pull request adds one responsive composer flow, keeps pending cards visible above it, and protects Codex ACP authentication in the local test path. > - Operators can choose run settings, send a message, and answer a pending card as separate actions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task composer UI, issue thread interactions, Codex ACP credential handling, and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** The composer did not expose model or effort for the selected agent. Mobile actions wrapped poorly. Pending questions and confirmations replaced the composer. A local Codex ACP test could also reuse host authentication after the managed key was removed. **Proposed solution** Put assignee search, model search, exact model IDs, effort, and fast mode in one picker. Use a mobile dialog. Replace the direct-upload plus action and separate mode selector with an Add menu and removable Plan or Ask chips. Place pending interaction cards above the usable composer. Keep these cards pending after an ordinary message unless their creator asks for comment superseding. Replace managed ACP auth files atomically and isolate the test key from host credentials. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md does not list an overlapping composer milestone. This change improves the existing task and review flows. ## What Changed - Added the combined assignee, model, and effort picker to both task composers. Search matches agent name, role, and harness. The server uses a curated Codex list by default and honors instance-declared models. Manual IDs remain available. - Added an effort slider for known model capabilities, a conditional Codex fast control, and reset. The picker opens in a modal on mobile. - Added the Add menu for files, supported goals, Plan mode, and Ask mode. Plan and Ask are exclusive removable chips. Keyboard mode cycling remains available. - Adjusted mobile spacing, avatars, wrapping, and Send placement. Removed the composer divider. - Moved pending question, confirmation, review, and related cards above the composer. Ordinary comments now leave question and confirmation cards pending by default. The onboarding prompt retains explicit comment superseding. - Updated the Storybook composer group with responsive states and the production picker. Added UI, service, route, and browser regression coverage. - Isolated Codex ACP API-key authentication, skipped subscription auth merge and shared-home copy-back for remote API-key runs, and replaced the managed auth file atomically. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/adapter-models.test.ts ui/src/components/task-chat/ComposerRunSettingsPicker.test.tsx` — 31 tests passed, including role and harness search, declared Codex models, and filtering general OpenAI models. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interactions-service.test.ts` — 74 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/acp.test.ts` — 42 tests passed, including remote API-key copy-back isolation. - `pnpm test:run` — attempted locally; the embedded PostgreSQL test database could not initialize on macOS. The isolated `heartbeat-run-event-sequencing` suite reproduced that environment failure. GitHub CI runs the full test matrix for this head. - `pnpm build` — passed on the final head. `pnpm build-storybook` passed after the last UI change; only server code, tests, and docs changed afterward. - Live local test drive — Codex ACP ran a task with a managed API key. The test agent was restored to its default ACP configuration afterward. - Review the interactive stories under the top-level Composer group with `pnpm storybook`. Check a narrow desktop width and mobile Plan, Ask, picker, and pending-question states. ## Risks - A pending card stays open when an ordinary comment changes the discussion. Its creator can set `supersedeOnUserComment: true` when a new comment should replace it. - Model and effort overrides persist on the task until reset or changed. An unlisted manual model ID may fail when the provider runs it. - Some harness catalogs do not report effort support. The picker hides effort for those models. - No database migration is required. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(runtime): finalize and recover sandbox workspace exports safely (#14402)
Serialize native workspace finalization, validate streamed archives within bounded limits, and quietly recover unsafe exports from saved results. Preserve exact allocations for exhausted transient failures and provide export-only retry without rerunning the provider. Consolidates #14314, #14315, #14329, and #14334 while preserving the already-merged finalization label changes. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): register artifact tabs without opening the panel (#14193)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Tasks keep agent outputs in the Artifacts tab.
> - An output can arrive while the user writes a message or reads a
document.
> - Opening the side panel on arrival interrupts that work, especially
on mobile.
> - This pull request adds the Artifacts tab without opening the panel
or changing the selected tab.
> - Users can open their outputs when they choose.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
New agent outputs opened the task side panel or mobile drawer. An
arrival could also replace the selected document or workspace file.
Existing outputs did not always register an Artifacts tab.
**Expected behavior**
Register one Artifacts tab for existing and new outputs. Keep a closed
panel closed. Preserve composer focus, the selected tab, and document or
file links.
**Steps to reproduce**
Open a task from the inbox. Close its side panel. Enter a message draft.
Create an agent output in that task. The panel must stay closed and the
draft must keep focus. Open the panel to see the Artifacts tab. Repeat
on a mobile viewport.

fix: use persisted state for lifecycle continuation and retry budgets (#13888)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its control plane decides when a task can continue, wait, stop, or complete. > - Legacy continuation could change when an agent changed its wording without changing task state. > - Shared attempt counts also let repair and infrastructure retries affect each other's limits. > - This pull request uses persisted state and separate, bounded allowances for these decisions. > - If automatic repair stops, the task explains what happened and offers a guarded retry. > - Paired tests and real-provider evaluations verify that Stop, approvals, ownership, and spending limits remain authoritative. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related work: Refs #13761, Refs #11126, Refs #13610. These cover obsolete continuation dispatch and retry storms. Open and closed issues and PRs were searched for related lifecycle, continuation, and retry work. **What happened?** Legacy continuation depended on English wording and progress heuristics. Repair, failure retry, and productive continuation could consume shared counts. When bounded repair stopped, the task showed a technical recovery message without a clear next action. **Expected behavior** Persisted disposition and owned execution paths determine the next action. Missing disposition prompts bounded agent repair. Explicit work mode determines planning mode. Narrative changes and raw activity counts cannot replenish allowances. An exhausted repair shows a readable notice. An explicit retry checks current controls and preserves the assigned agent. **Steps to reproduce** Run `pnpm test:lifecycle-baseline`. The paired probes keep structured state constant while varying completion, planning, blocker, and progress prose. Run the explicit `lifecycle-baseline` and `continuation-accounting` Product E2E suites for real-provider coverage. In Storybook, open **Design previews / Recovery notice** to inspect the production component's normal, pending, acknowledged, unavailable, failure, and mobile states. ## What Changed - Hide the image attachment button, icon, and drop/paste hint in answer composers. Image paste and drop support remains available. - Merge current master and retain both browser regression sets. Use a production-stamped service worker in the offline recovery browser fixture. - Share one state-based legacy continuation decision across immediate, delayed, and recovered dispatch. Bind bounded repairs to their source run and episode. - Remove title and description wording from work-mode authority. Agents can still write requested plans in execution mode. - Persist separate failure-retry and productive-continuation counters. Disposition repair and resource waits cannot consume or reset those allowances. - Validate delayed repair identity, then recheck current gates before provider dispatch. Fence native startup cancellation. - Show **Agent needs attention**, a plain-language explanation, **Retry agent**, and expandable details in both task interfaces. Report request progress, acknowledgement, and errors inline. - Store typed recovery notice metadata. Recognize older active notices only through exact stored action and run IDs. Notice text never grants retry authority. - Use the existing recovery-action endpoint for retry. Recheck current action, status, owner, agent availability, dependencies, active runs, pending questions and confirmations, approvals, pause controls, and budget. Duplicate requests do not wake twice. - Add component, page, route, database, contract, and Storybook coverage. Keep the scenario inventory and executable evals here. Historical reports and snapshots live in the [commit-pinned paperclip-evals archive](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/blob/ce3e5afcd4a1184650f586a2b5b8be5874c66c8b/experiments/2026-09-lifecycle-authority/README.md). - Preserve unsaved project fields while the same project URL changes to its canonical alias. Do not reuse data across projects or companies. This separate fix addresses the repeated repository-editor browser failure without changing the browser test. - Keep the development service worker from intercepting Vite module reloads. Update the connection-intent browser fixture to record progress and completion through the agent API. ## Verification Merge preparation on September 25, commit `c1e8e4b7ddd9fbc4913ed55ce21b8e12906c2f97`: - Merged master `bd2030932` and resolved the browser test-list conflict by keeping both sets of regressions. - Deterministic lifecycle baseline: 1,090/1,090 assertions passed; no failures, skips, or missing selected evidence. Unit 423, runner 184, database integration 397, grading 86. - Browser support: 17/17 passed. The offline recovery test first failed with an unstamped development worker, then passed with the production stamp. Its assertions are unchanged. - Focused interaction UI and offline fallback tests: 19/19 passed. Verified the custom-answer composer in Storybook: no attachment controls or hint; entering an answer enables Next. - Recursive typecheck, production build, token gates, and diff checks passed. The worktree is clean. No new real-provider campaign was run. - Current CI and review: [Current PR CI passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36166011243): 55 successful checks and two optional Storybook skips. Greptile scored this exact commit 5/5. Hiding the question attachment controls is an intentional UI change; paste/drop remains available. Earlier recovery UI verification, commit `21be0fec0e90e86b6d662b8ee4831847cd041cdb`: - Recursive typecheck, production build, token gates, and diff checks passed. - Focused UI coverage: 338 tests passed across six suites (336 before the interaction guard, with the two affected suites rerun at 149 passed after it). Covers both task interfaces, the real page mutation, pending/error acknowledgement, stale state, and unavailable controls. - Recovery database integration: 352 tests passed before the interaction guard. The complete recovery-action and mutation-route suites passed 181 tests after it. The two new pending question/confirmation regressions failed before the fix and passed afterward, including resolved-interaction controls. Shared validator suite: 31 passed. E2E catalog suites: 34 passed. - Browser inspection passed for light/dark themes, mobile layout, expandable details, pending retry, acknowledgement, failure, and disabled retry. Storybook renders the production component; its request is simulated. - The broad local run hit two chat callback-order wait failures and was stopped after all CI unit/database/runner shards passed. Both local failures passed when rerun without the competing full-suite process. - CI exposed a repeated project-repository draft-loss race during canonical redirects. A new unit regression failed before the fix; all nine project-page tests now pass, including controls for other projects and companies. Both unchanged repository browser tests passed against a fresh local server. UI typecheck, production UI build, and token gates passed after this fix. - [Earlier PR CI passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36072486798) on `21be0fec0e90e86b6d662b8ee4831847cd041cdb`: 55 successful checks, two optional Storybook skips, and no failed or pending checks. The repository browser shard passed with the production fix. Greptile is 5/5 on this exact commit with no unresolved review threads. The PR is mergeable. Historical, source-qualified lifecycle evidence: - Lifecycle baseline: 1,074 assertions. Native session coverage: 447 tests. Product E2E support: 515 tests. Browser support: 11 tests. Full earlier verification is retained in the archive. - [Real-provider campaign: 8/8 passed, zero retries](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-35881382080-1/index.html), source `e88d210417280140b44a36449027290adcb1aeaa`. Evidence and cleanup checks passed. This includes deliberately exhausted repair cases that correctly remain blocked; it does not mean every task finished Done. This campaign predates the recovery UI change. - Archive migration verified all 16 original JSON files byte-for-byte and all 24 checksum entries. App tests do not need private archive access. [Archive PR #27](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/27) is merged. ## Risks - Agents that omit durable disposition receive at most two repair attempts by default. Prose-only completion exposes missing state rather than silently changing scheduling. - A retry is an explicit board action. The server rechecks current controls. A successful response confirms the task returned to To do; it does not claim that the provider has already started. - Existing notice metadata remains valid. Only older active notices with matching structured evidence receive the new UI. Historical notices without that evidence keep their existing rendering. No schema migration is required. - Old run records require conservative retry accounting. Tests cover old counters, alternating retry lanes, restarts, and exhausted repairs. - Historical snapshots require private `paperclip-evals` access. The app index retains public campaign links. Live campaigns qualify specific sources and scenarios; no new real-provider campaign has run for the recovery UI commit. > This fixes existing lifecycle and recovery behavior and does not duplicate planned core work. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted implementation, reasoning, code execution, and review. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. Historical real-provider evaluations used Codex model `gpt-5.6-sol`, separately from the implementation assistant. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add task artifact media gallery and full-row links (#13825)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks collect the files and work products that agents create. > - The Artifacts tab shows these outputs in rows, which makes videos hard to compare. > - Small text links also make artifact rows harder to open. > - This pull request adds image and video tiles with previews and makes the full artifact row clickable. > - Users can compare outputs and open the existing media viewer with one click. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The task Artifacts tab and media previews in task chat. **Current behavior** Video outputs appear as file rows or icons. Users must click a small link to open a work product. A task with eight video outputs gives little visual context. **Proposed behavior** Show images and videos in a responsive gallery. Show a paused video frame as the thumbnail. Keep documents, links, and other files in rows whose entire area opens the item. **Reason and benefit** Users can compare generated media without opening each item. Larger click targets also make the sidebar easier to use. **Breaking changes** None. This uses the existing artifact URLs, media viewer, run grouping, and attachment filters. No API or database changes. Related work: #11226 added the task sidebar output surface, and #7361 added rich attachment previews. #3524 concerns a separate reviewed-assets panel. This PR improves the existing task artifact components. The duplicate search found no active PR for this change. This is polish for the shipped Artifacts & Work Products roadmap item. ## What Changed - Add a shared media tile for work products and agent attachments. - Reuse video and image previews in task artifacts and chat. Seek up to one second into videos and reset preview state when the source changes. - Use the existing task gallery for playback and downloads. Preserve grouping and attachment deduplication. - Extend native links and buttons across work-product rows, including keyboard focus indicators. - Add eight offline Storybook examples for video outputs, mixed media, clickable rows, narrow and wide panels, missing previews, empty state, and light mode. - Register the component in the design guide and document its use. ## Verification - 108 focused component tests pass, including thumbnail seeking, source changes, gallery activation, and attachment deduplication. - `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, Storybook build, token gates, and `git diff --check` pass locally. - Reviewed the production components in the embedded browser. Checked all eight video thumbnails, mixed media, narrow layout, light mode, blank-area row clicks, keyboard gallery activation for generic-MIME images, and playback from chat video thumbnails. - Storybook: open **Tasks / Artifact Gallery** and select **Eight Video Outputs**, **Mixed Media And Files**, or **Whole Row Clickable**. The small local clips are synthetic fixtures. - All build, typecheck, unit, runner, and end-to-end CI jobs pass for `b8ace289b5e07df5b9f2c319b159f3923ce427b4`. Greptile gives 5/5 with both review findings resolved. All 54 PR checks pass, including the external security scan. The full test suite passed in CI. The duplicate serial local test run was stopped after CI finished; the 108 focused tests, full build, and recursive typecheck passed locally. ## Risks - Video thumbnails require the browser to load metadata and a frame. A slow server or unsupported codec can leave the fallback visible; opening and downloading still use the existing viewer. - Full-row click targets change pointer interaction with work-product cards. Native link and button semantics remain in place. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with code execution and browser tools. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): show ancestors in the task detail Tasks panel (#13823)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks form a hierarchy that explains why each piece of work exists. > - The streamlined Tasks panel shows child tasks and work created by the current task. > - It does not show ancestors, although the task response already includes them. > - This pull request adds linked ancestors above Subtasks in root-to-parent order. > - Users can now move up the task hierarchy from the same panel. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related implementation: #13241. A search found no duplicate ancestor-panel PR. **What happened?** The Tasks panel omitted the current task's ancestors. The streamlined header also hides hierarchy breadcrumbs. **Expected behavior** The Tasks panel should show the ancestor chain and let users open each ancestor. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with a parent and grandparent in the streamlined UI. 2. Open the Tasks tab in the side panel. 3. Observe that it shows child and created tasks but no ancestors. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on master at |

fix(ui): retry the latest failed task attempt (#13765)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work done by AI agents. > - The task thread lets an operator retry a failed run. > - Legacy runs with transcript output did not get a failure marker. > - The thread could therefore offer Try again for an older failure. > - The server correctly reused that failure's existing retry, even when it had already failed. > - This change keeps the latest failure actionable and reports stopped retry responses to the operator. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Try again could return success without starting work. An initial setup failure had an empty transcript. Its later retry produced output and failed. Only the initial failure had a retry marker, so the button kept requesting the initial failure's already-failed successor. **Expected behavior** Try again targets the latest failed attempt. An already-stopped retry response shows an error and refreshes the task's run state. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a legacy adapter task that fails before producing transcript output. 2. Retry it. Let this attempt produce output and a final failure comment before it fails. 3. Click Try again in the task thread. 4. Before this fix, the click targets the original failure and replays the stopped successor. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `1483bb8bcf`; the regression is also present on the branch base `8813a50105`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated server with a legacy adapter. The bug is in the shared task UI and retry API client. Related: #11650 adds a different recovery-notice action. This change fixes failed-run markers and retry response handling. Searches found no duplicate of this failure case. ## What Changed - Render legacy failure markers even when the run has a transcript or final comment. - Keep later cancelled automatic retries from replacing the failed run's retry action. - Reject already-stopped retry responses in the API client so existing error feedback appears. - Refresh task run queries after both successful and failed retry requests. - Add regression coverage for failed and timed-out attempts, execution gates with output, and retry response states. ## Verification - Before the fix, the new regression tests failed: two selected the original failure, and four accepted a stopped successor as success. - Targeted task-thread, retry API, marker, and issue-page tests: 279 passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - Full UI suite: 6,529 tests passed across 626 files. - [CI run 35650385023](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35650385023): all 53 checks passed, including full workspace build, typecheck, unit/integration suites, and browser tests. The redundant local full-workspace test run was stopped after CI passed; it is not counted as a completed local pass. - Greptile: 5/5 on `608ee58c99`, with no review threads or unresolved comments. The branch is mergeable. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` were attempted. Both stop at the Runner's Rust checks because this host has no `cargo`. The full workspace checks passed in CI. ## Risks Low risk. This changes UI presentation and response handling only. The server's exact-retry idempotency, authorization, execution ownership, and recovery gates remain in place. No schema changes or live task mutations. Existing documentation describes this retry action; the fix restores that behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted checks; full-workspace limits described above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (existing behavior restored; no documentation change needed) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task messages enter through the shared task composer. > - The task page waits for a separate tree-control query to find active pause holds. > - The old loading guard disables the composer until that request settles. A slow or stalled request blocks messages on both desktop and mobile. > - This PR allows sends while that query is pending. The server still rejects paused board messages before saving a comment or waking an agent. > - Query failures and known pause holds still block the composer. > - Regression tests cover pending sends, successful responses, query failures, and late root or inherited pauses. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Fixes: #13561 Related: #13569 adds pending/error coverage for the same fix. This PR now covers those cases and the late-pause transitions. The report overstates two details: `isPending` clears after a successful response, and the shared loading guard also affects mobile. The reproduction holds the request pending. It does not prove why the reporter's request remained unresolved. ## What Changed - Preserve the original two-line fix that removes the pending-state composer block. - Add eight page regression cases using a real QueryClient and a controlled API promise. Cover desktop and mobile, submission before the query completes, successful resolution, rejected resolution, and late root/inherited pause responses. - Repair an existing server CI failure in a separate commit. Reuse the shared unique-violation helper so Drizzle-wrapped duplicate inserts become retryable document conflicts. Add a deterministic regression and preserve unrelated database errors. - Repair an existing Inbox test race in a separate commit. Wait for workspace metadata, which resolves independently of the task list. ## Verification - Red: restore the pre-fix `IssueDetail.tsx` and run the new `composer tree control` cases. Both desktop and mobile pending-send cases fail with `Checking task status…`. The other six cases pass. - Green: restore the original PR fix. All 343 tests in IssueDetail, TaskChatThread, and TaskChatComposer pass. - The server comment/reopen and artifact-review suites pass (179 tests). They include POST and PATCH pause checks that return 409 before any comment, task mutation, or wakeup. - The document error regression fails before the shared-helper fix and passes after it. The document, artifact-review, and database-error suites pass (31 tests). The handler matches only the issue-document key constraint; revision and other constraint errors retain their original identity. - The Inbox suite passes (27 tests). - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass locally. The full CI matrix passes on `5af1ed0b43269247aaba406cf4fd4d7fe1a22e75`: 54 successful checks and two opt-in Storybook skips, including all general/serialized tests, runner checks, release checks, and eight browser shards. - One server shard initially hit an unrelated `EADDRINUSE` on test port 52000. Its single rerun passed without code changes. - Greptile completed successfully on that exact commit with 5/5 and no outstanding findings or review threads. - The serial local `pnpm test:run` was started, then stopped after the complete parallel CI matrix passed. It is not claimed as a completed local full-suite run. The focused local suites above did finish successfully. For a manual reproduction, delay the task's `/tree-control-state` response, open the task, and enter a message. Send should remain available during the delay. Resolve the response with an active pause hold and confirm that the pause takeover replaces the composer. Reject the request and confirm that the error blocks sends. ## Risks A user can attempt a send before the pause response arrives. The server remains authoritative and returns 409 for a paused task before saving or waking work. The known pause takeover and query-error block remain. There are no schema, API, or styling changes. The document change restores the existing conflict/retry behavior for wrapped database errors. It does not retry unrelated database failures. The Inbox change affects test synchronization only. ## Model Used - Original fix: Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.6 (`claude-sonnet-4-6`), 200k context, tool use and code editing, as reported by the author. - Review, regression tests, and CI repairs: OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The session does not expose its context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: austinpilz <austinpilz@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> |

feat: create company skills from runner tasks (#13538)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Runner gives agents tools to change company resources. > - Users need agents to save reusable skills during a task. > - A saved skill needs a visible result that users can inspect and edit. > - This pull request adds `create_skill` and a task feed card linked to Skill Studio. > - Users can open the saved skill from the task and edit the same resource. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Runner tools, company skill storage, task feed, and Skill Studio. **Problem or motivation** The Runner has no dedicated tool to create a company skill. A user cannot follow a creation result from the task feed to the saved skill. **Proposed solution** Add a company-scoped `create_skill` tool. Save the skill with the existing company policy. Add one creation card to the task. Open a named sidebar tab from that card. Let the user open the same skill in Skill Studio. **Alternatives considered** An agent can write a local file, but that file is not a company skill. A second document copy in the task would become stale after a Studio edit. The sidebar therefore reads the saved skill directly. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Skills Manager, Skill Studio, and Skills Store milestone. The maintainer requested and approved this scope. Search found no duplicate `create_skill` PR or issue. Related UI validation work: #8715. This PR does not change that validation display. ## What Changed - Add the real Runner tool, its contract, and its mock implementation. - Validate the complete SKILL.md and derive company, task, agent, and run identity from authentication. - Apply the existing company skill policy. Do not assign the skill to an agent. - Make keyed retries return one skill and one creation event. Reject conflicting retries. - Make concurrent file creation safe. Never replace an existing published skill during creation. - Add a creation card, a named sidebar tab, and an Open in Skill Studio action. - Show saved Studio edits when the user returns to the task. - Add storage, policy, mode, retry, UI, and Product E2E tests. Document the tool. - Fix deleted-name reuse, onboarding panel persistence, immediate feed refresh, and mock validation parity from review. - Serialize Studio file edits and renames with skill deletion and recreation. Reject stale editor requests before they can change a replacement skill. - Generate the standalone mock parser and validator from the production contract. Use portable UUIDs so the browser scenario bundle builds. ## Verification - All latest-head PR checks pass on `145dd76a5`, including all server shards, browser E2E, Runner verification, build, typecheck, and release dry run. Greptile: 5/5 with no open findings. An interrupted CI runner was retried successfully. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - Review regressions: 73 storage tests, 6 real API tests, 63 UI tests, and 61 semantic runtime tests passed. Parser synchronization passed. - CI exposed existing fire-and-forget Sentry test races. Reproduced the resumption race locally, then synchronized the related sweep and finalizer assertions on the actual report; all 27 tests across the three affected files pass. - Runner scenario browser build and strict content-security-policy check: passed. - Runner suite: 2,012 tests passed; 10 skipped. - `pnpm test:run`: the general-server batch had 12,416 passes and two failures. The old tool-count assertion was fixed; all 16 authority tests then passed. The chat webhook test had a socket error; it passed four isolated reruns. - Both workspace test groups passed. The isolated route suites completed. Two socket failures in the initial route batches passed on individual reruns; all remaining 61 files passed. - Product E2E `create-skill-studio`: passed with local Codex and local ACPX Claude. - Manual browser test: submit a task, observe the real tool call and creation card, open the sidebar, edit in Studio, save, and return. The task reached Done. The saved second revision and sidebar tab survived a server restart. - The new companion headless Runner Eval passed. Companion coverage PR: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/23. Daytona was not run because no immutable runner image was configured. ## Risks - Database writes and local file writes cannot share one transaction. Recovery accepts only an exact file-for-file retry after a database rollback. Conflicting files remain untouched. - The sidebar displays the current skill. The feed card remains the historical creation receipt. - No database migration, dependency, or workflow change is included. - Remote Daytona behavior still needs a run with a configured immutable image. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) handled design, integration, review, and browser verification. OpenAI `gpt-5.6-luna` assisted with bounded implementation and eval work. Both used code execution and tool access. The host did not expose the context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: publish sandbox files on legacy and native runners (#13493)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents must publish generated files so users can inspect their results after a sandbox stops. > - Legacy sandbox bridges blocked attachment listing and could not carry multipart binary uploads through the queue transport. > - The native runner has a separate verified file registration path that needs the same durable result. > - This pull request repairs legacy binary transport, makes native download receipts explicit, and reveals new outputs in the task Artifacts tab. > - Users can open generated files from either runner without a transport flag change. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13355 for the existing native file publication path. Related filename fixes: #2615 and #4788. Related sandbox persistence work: #13376. This change repairs attachment delivery through the existing API; it does not add workspace persistence. **What happened?** The upload helper first lists task attachments to avoid duplicates. Both legacy bridge allowlists rejected that GET request with 403. A direct multipart upload also failed: the queue bridge accepted only JSON, excluded attachment uploads, and converted bytes to UTF-8 text. Enabling HTTP/2 alone did not fix the missing listing route. These failures occurred before attachment storage. **Expected behavior** Both runners can publish a workspace file, register its work product, bind it to a response, and return a working download. The file stays accessible after sandbox deletion. A new output opens the task Artifacts tab. The agent receives accurate errors and decides how to retry or report a failure. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a legacy agent in Daytona with the duplex bridge disabled. 2. Invoke the bundled upload helper with Bash on a PNG or PDF. 3. Repeat with the duplex bridge enabled. 4. Register the same file through the native runner with generic API tools disabled. 5. Retry registration, delete the sandbox, and compare the downloaded bytes with the original file. **Paperclip version or commit** The failing baseline was `f2c5e54dc`. This branch is rebased onto `6cfe4acff`. **Deployment mode** Source checkout with a local API and real isolated Daytona sandboxes. ## What Changed - Allow authenticated attachment listing, upload, and content download through both legacy bridge transports. - Add optional base64 body encoding to queue envelopes. Preserve the existing UTF-8 contract when the encoding field is absent. Decode binary bodies before forwarding them. - Preserve multipart headers. Bound raw bytes, encoded envelopes, and in-flight reservations. Retain timeout and uncertain-write behavior. - Preserve helper deduplication and return structured uncertain-write failures. Document explicit Bash invocation in live skills. - Add attachment IDs and content/download paths to native registration receipts. Reuse verified local and remote file reads, attachment storage, work-product registration, and response binding. - Preserve Unicode upload filenames and provide a valid Content-Disposition header. - Open the task Artifacts tab when new stored outputs arrive, including a closed desktop panel or mobile drawer. Deduplicate upload and registration events by object ID. Preserve manual selection on refetches, edits, and panel remounts. - Remove task artifact filters, the company Artifacts footer link, and the unassigned group heading and timestamp. ### Screenshot This is the local display fixture. The image was generated separately and published through the attachment and work-product APIs. ## Verification - Post-rebase `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. - The post-rebase local `pnpm test:run` passed 12,369 tests before one existing conversation reset test timed out; all 33 tests in that suite pass when rerun with isolated test configuration. The aggregate command stopped before its remaining groups. GitHub runs the complete suite in separate shards. - All [GitHub verification checks](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35017893350) pass on `b66ac276dd3d5fc738a22ecea783400106a494d4`: 32 successful checks and two configured skips. The native-session recovery assertion initially raced its fire-and-forget Sentry report; all 13 tests pass locally, and the same-commit CI rerun passes all 170 suites (3,079 tests). - Live post-rebase Daytona: all three file-delivery tests pass. They cover the real Bash helper with the queue bridge, the helper with HTTP/2, and native `register_deliverable` with generic API tools disabled. - Daytona cases cover PNG/PDF bytes, spaced and Unicode names, duplicate registration, response binding, authorization controls, and byte-for-byte downloads after sandbox deletion. - Local focused coverage includes transfer bounds, malformed encoding, interrupted transfers, remote path containment, and native file verification. The attachment route suite passes all 32 tests, including an eight-case filename-header matrix for Unicode and special characters, inline and forced downloads, and full and partial responses. - Browser verification confirms image previews, persisted downloads, automatic Artifacts selection, and preserved manual selection after edits and reloads. Desktop/mobile component coverage passes. The latest UI cleanup passes its 10 affected tests and token gates. - Coverage limit: the Daytona tests call the real helper and native registration path directly. They do not replay a complete model-led image-generation task through the browser. Live command (requires a configured Daytona credential): ```sh PAPERCLIP_FILE_DELIVERY_DAYTONA=1 pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/file-delivery-bridges.test.ts ``` ## Risks - Binary queue bodies use more memory because base64 adds encoding overhead. Transfer and process limits must remain aligned. - An interrupted write can have an unknown result. The bridge reports this state and preserves stable retry identities. - New artifacts intentionally change the active task tab. Existing history and repeated updates must not take focus again. - Transport flag defaults, server authorization, frozen skill snapshots, and completion policies remain unchanged. No schema migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve queued work after native Stop and honor steering support (#13354)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and their tasks. > - The runner owns execution, while the task keeps user instructions and status. > - Stop must stop the current response without losing instructions that the user already sent. > - The queue stored its original reason inside saved context. Recovery checked the outer deferred reason and left the message waiting. > - Claude also exposed Steer through a shared method even though its driver did not support it. A rejected request could remove its own error row. > - This pull request keeps queued work until execution has stopped, uses the driver's real capability, and preserves completion event order. > - Users can continue work without repairing task state or repeating messages. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13338. Related recovery work: #13353. **What happened?** A message sent during a native run stayed queued after Stop. Claude exposed an unsupported Steer action. A steering failure could hide the queued row and its error. A terminal event could also precede the final provider result, and subtree Stop omitted the board actor. **Expected behavior** Stop ends the current execution. Once Paperclip proves that execution has stopped, it delivers the saved instruction once through normal admission. Pause and recovery holds still prevent dispatch. Unsupported controls stay disabled, and a rejected action leaves an actionable error visible. Final results precede terminal events. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a Claude or Codex task that writes a file and then waits. 2. Send a follow-up instruction while it runs. 3. Press Stop. Check that the queued instruction runs once and preserves the file. 4. Check Claude's Steer control and simulate a server rejection on the only queued message. ## What Changed - Recover saved native comments after acknowledged Stop using their original wake reason. - Require durable remote termination receipts or verified local process termination before dispatch. - Preserve actor identity, queued-message deduplication, Pause, and recovery gates. - Derive steering support from the driver descriptor and reject unsupported calls. - Keep the queue mounted until a steering request succeeds so its error remains visible. - Emit provider results before terminal events and pass the board actor into subtree Stop. - Document Stop and steering behavior. ## Verification - Final-head continuation suite: 104 passed, after failing regressions for saved wake reasons, cleanup proof, and deduplication of every queued message. Steering UI: 121 passed. Driver capability: 26 passed. Runner backend/transport: 205 passed; Rust library: 285 passed. - Real Claude and Codex browser journeys both preserved the saved file, delivered the queued instruction once after Stop, and reached Done with exactly two total runs. The process Stop browser fixture also passed. - Local full repository typecheck and build passed on `afaa35139`; server typecheck and the affected 104-test suite passed after the final queue changes. Token gates passed. Final-head CI verifies the complete integrated source. - Local aggregate evidence has explicit limits: the general-server invocation overlapped the queue fixes and finished with 11,989 passed, 2 failed, and 80 skipped; both failures are covered by the final 104-test pass. The UI and CLI then passed all 6,184 and 485 tests; the complete 145-file serialized rerun passed all 2470 tests. The shared-package lock fixture passed unchanged on rerun, but the package phase subsequently stopped at an embedded-Postgres bootstrap resource failure. No single pristine green local full aggregate is claimed. - Greptile reviewed `fa66e2bd5` at [5/5 with no unresolved findings](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13354#issuecomment-5650334242). [Final-head CI completed successfully](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34733781888/attempts/2): 33 successful checks, 2 conditional skips, including all server, package, UI, browser, runner, typecheck, and build gates. The first attempt hit a preview-readiness/port-collision fixture; its unchanged local control passed 25 tests with 3 skips, and one supported unchanged CI retry passed the affected shard and aggregate gates. ## Risks - Queue recovery must never overlap an old execution. Unknown cleanup state remains blocked. - Driver descriptors are now authoritative for steering; a wrong descriptor disables the action instead of attempting it. - No schema migration or historical status reconciliation is included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, code execution, browser testing, and tool use. The exact hosted model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this task. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve runner recovery, warm sessions, and task outcomes (#13338)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native runner connects task messages, provider execution, and task outcomes. > - First-time user tests exposed gaps in recovery, completion permissions, message delivery, and Stop behavior. > - These gaps left usable output hidden, completed work waiting for bookkeeping, or safe work unable to continue. > - This pull request fixes the shared lifecycle and receipt paths while preserving process ownership and action checks. > - Users can continue work with accurate task state and durable messages. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A stopped local Codex execution could remain blocked even after its processes had stopped and its complete transcript proved that no external action needed replay. Claude under Conservative permissions could fail to call task completion tools. Recovery could reuse an assistant item ID and overwrite prior output. A delivered comment could remain marked uncertain after navigation. Stop could look like Pause or a new recovery incident. Workspace contention could look like cancellation. A direct reply reopening Done could enter a clarification loop. **Expected behavior** Recover automatically only with verified termination and complete action receipts. Preserve answers and messages. Keep task completion available under Conservative permissions without broad tool access. Show crashes as Blocked, actual human decisions as In Review, and ordinary workspace contention as waiting. Stop the current response and allow a new direction. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create ordinary response tasks with local Codex and Claude Code, then send follow-up messages through the task composer. 2. Interrupt a disposable local Codex runner during text-only work. Verify automatic continuation and retained output. 3. Stop a response, send a new request, answer a clarification, and reopen completed work with another message. 4. Navigate or reload while a comment submission is pending. Confirm the exact persisted request receipt settles it without removing newer draft text. 5. Run two tasks in a shared Daytona workspace. Confirm waiting does not appear as failure. **Paperclip version or commit** Initial acceptance baseline: `c9021c6721f91e2c74bd9fee9d3fd41c999d17b7`. Current integration base: `6cef9743c`. Both operator-interruption and workspace-waiting guards are preserved; native restart and legacy permission rules remain documented. **Deployment mode** An isolated source-built test-drive instance, with real local Codex and Claude Code providers and disposable Daytona environments. Related work: #13314, #13316, #13327, #13344, #13239, #13254, #13163. This PR addresses additional failures from ordinary task journeys, including controller restart handoff and repeated warm sandbox setup. Historical task status reconciliation is excluded. ## What Changed - Persist runner ownership immediately at spawn and resume an explicitly adopted runner even when the controller crashed before the first driver checkpoint. Detach the controller safely across graceful restarts, including session startup. Prevent an old finalizer from suspending or signaling an adopted runner. Checkpoint idle warm sessions before shutdown. Preserve the same run and queued follow-up messages. - Scope saved legacy queue successor checks to the queue owner while preserving ordinary task locks, operator identity, assignment gates, and exactly-once delivery. - Preserve managed Codex credential files when an old session is detached for restart; normal owned cleanup still copies refreshed auth back and removes the scoped copy. - Reuse the bound warm shared sandbox and fully verify an existing staged provider pack before using it. This avoids repeated uploads when the pack is already valid. - Add a narrow local Codex replacement path with stopped-process proof, a closed transcript inventory, exact completion receipts, and fresh-session lineage. Preserve no-replay holds when evidence is incomplete. Recovery may clear only the same run's recorded Blocked status version; manual re-blocking and dependency changes invalidate that receipt, while queued comments do not. Later blocks stop scheduled, queued, and final dispatch; queued/final checks re-read dependencies even when the task status stays In Progress. - Permit only task delivery and human-input tools through the isolated Claude runner's exact task bridge. - Scope assistant item identity to the provider turn and ignore only authority-free Codex skill-change notifications during startup. - Reconcile composer submissions by client request ID across response loss, navigation, and reload. Retain text typed during delivery. - Keep acknowledged run-only Stop neutral and show workspace contention as waiting. Project exhausted native failures as Blocked. - Restore the guarded task-page retry action for failed legacy runs, including the server-supported explicit new-attempt path for stopped conversation adapters. Preserve native/process recovery holds and avoid promising Retry while a decision or execution gate hides it. - Refresh delivered artifacts and handle direct user replies that reopen completed work without a clarification loop. - Check the embedded PostgreSQL PID, data directory, and actual port before connecting or migrating. - Document accepted behavior and add focused regressions at lifecycle, route, transcript, and UI boundaries. ## Verification - Final head `fece606ac2` passes the complete GitHub CI matrix: **34 green checks, two expected Storybook skips, no failures or pending checks**, including `ci / verify`, `ci / e2e`, full runner verification, typecheck, build, every server/workspace shard, and all browser shards. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34727183287). Greptile is **5/5 with no open findings**. The final two commits only refine test fixtures; both affected suites pass 24/24 locally and in CI, with server typecheck green. - Complete local Vitest coverage uses the canonical groups/shards: all 635 general server suites, all 145 serialized suites, and all workspace packages. The aggregate began on `0a8001c18` while the final queue fix arrived: 23,903 passed, five failed, 87 skipped. The five port/socket/timing failures passed unchanged in follow-ups (60 tests in the exposure/file suites and 412 tests covering the serialized failures and unrun tails). The final queue/operator-identity suites separately passed 52/52. This is aggregate coverage plus explicit reruns, not a pristine single-command final-head run. - After integration with current master, queue/operator-identity/continuation suites passed 162/162 and affected UI suites passed 140/140. ACP Stop/continuation and legacy task/Inbox/message browser suites passed 9/9, including both task recovery Retry and thread Try again, automatic saved-message delivery, exactly one new run, Done, and retained output after reload. The default process Stop/Pause/Resume browser case passed (the native-provider case is opt-in and skipped by default). The complete Board attachment/receipt browser suite passed 11/11 on a disposable instance, covering both composers, exact receipts after lost responses, no replay, bound attachments, and newer drafts after reload. - Blocking-intent regressions cover pre-existing Blocked, a mismatched run/cause, an explicit manual re-block, changed dependencies, a queued comment after failure, and a block arriving between scheduling and provider dispatch. The negative cases reproduced before the fix. All 478 affected executor/recovery/dispatch tests passed; both database suites ran separately after availability-probe skips in the first combined command. The final late-dependency check passed all 143 affected recovery/dispatch tests (zero skips) after two new negative cases reproduced the bug. - Focused runtime regressions cover awaited runner ownership publication, authenticated adoption before the first checkpoint, old-finalizer detachment, idle and busy warm-session shutdown, rejected checkpoint propagation, provider-pack verification, and managed-Codex credential preservation. Four managed credential detachment cases reproduced the bug before the fix; normal owned cleanup still succeeds exactly once. - Live local Claude: SIGKILL 2.6 seconds into startup recovered the same run automatically in 53 seconds, then a normal follow-up completed in 24 seconds. SIGTERM 2.5 seconds into startup preserved the same run (54 seconds) and its queued follow-up (21 seconds). Answers remained visible and the task reached Done. - Live Claude Daytona: a warm follow-up retained its sandbox and fell from 121 seconds to 44 seconds. A separate cold turn took 127 seconds; after controller shutdown and checkpointing, its follow-up completed in 33 seconds with the same sandbox, workspace, native session, and runner. Both answers remained visible and the task was Done. - Other live journeys covered task completion and follow-up with local and Daytona Codex, local Codex crash recovery, Stop then new direction, clarification response, live artifact refresh, and shared-workspace waiting. - Validation limits: the opt-in native composer Stop/Pause→subtree Resume fixture exposes terminal/result ordering and subtree-cancellation attribution bugs that can leave a child task blocked; that new finding is assigned to a separate follow-up and is not claimed fixed here. Default CI skips this optional native-provider fixture. Managed-Codex credential handoff and the queue-agent integration use automated regression evidence. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency. ## Risks - Automatic replacement remains deliberately narrow: local Codex, verified stopped identities, unchanged retained state, and a complete text/completion-only turn. Unknown actions, partial history, or changed ownership remain blocked. - Claude completion permission handling changes an upstream package patch. The exact isolated task bridge must remain pinned; unrelated tools keep their existing permissions. - New task failure projection changes user-visible status. No historical status backfill or database migration is included. - This is a broad lifecycle fix across server and UI. Live proof covers graceful local Claude restart during startup and idle Claude Daytona session recovery across controller shutdown. Live abrupt SIGKILL during local Claude startup also recovered the same run. Unknown ownership or missing action evidence still blocks reuse. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency; this change avoids unnecessary repeat uploads. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, code execution, browser automation, and tool use. The exact hosted model ID and context window are not exposed in this task.
