fix(connectors): avoid redundant run preparation discovery (#16461)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Run preparation selects connector skills and tools under current permissions. > - An assignment check can build an unrelated company tool catalog and wait for a shared discovery slot. > - Native startup repeats assignment discovery to obtain static tool definitions. > - Slack also locks and reconciles an unchanged catalog, then repeats task authorization. > - This pull request removes that redundant startup work and preserves live checks at tool execution. > - The benefit is less preparation work, less contention, and unchanged permission and approval enforcement. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #16454 (detailed preparation tracing), #16425 (workspace preparation performance). **What happened?** Connector configuration added avoidable work to run preparation. Browser Use assignment authorized the whole company catalog, including other connector families. Four connector resolvers ran in series. Native controller startup repeated all assignment resolution when any connector skill was pinned. Slack reconciled an unchanged catalog under an advisory lock and checked task authority twice. **Expected behavior** Prepare only the connector data needed by the run. Reuse static tool definitions from pinned skills. Preserve current company, assignment, identity, profile, policy, grant, and approval checks when an operation executes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Configure Browser Use and an unrelated MCP catalog with 500 tools for one company. 2. Resolve Browser Use resources for an authorized task. The old path reads and authorizes the unrelated catalog. 3. Occupy both full discovery slots. The old assignment check waits for those slots. 4. Resolve a linked Slack task repeatedly with an existing current catalog. The old path still acquires a catalog lock and repeats authority checks. **Paperclip version or commit** Base: `68a09dcb5f50e3fb6ceaaeac2706d96db97fc9b3`. **Deployment mode** Observed in hosted native runs. The local reproduction uses a source checkout and real embedded PostgreSQL. ## What Changed - Restrict Browser Use catalog reads and policy decisions to active Browser Use connections. Preserve guest restrictions, reviewed catalog filters, live grants, and deterministic resource order. Keep assignment checks out of the full discovery queue. - Resolve the four independent connector families concurrently. Wait for outstanding work to settle before propagating a failure, and retain registration order. - Register native direct connector tool definitions from pinned connector skills. Keep live assignment resolution and governed execution on every tool call. - Compare Slack catalog hashes before reconciliation. Current catalogs skip the catalog transaction and lock. Check task authority once after current profile checks. Initial setup and upgrades retain locked reconciliation and checks before and after it. - Precompute immutable bundled Slack descriptor hashes. Preserve disabled entries, profile state, removed bindings, and review metadata. - Document the startup paths and add focused contention, revocation, catalog upgrade, and failure-settlement regressions. - Repair a pre-existing CI guard false positive: the filename `docker-compose-secrets.test.mjs` matched `secrets.`. Check GitHub secret expressions instead, with dot, bracket, and whole-context controls. No workflow changes. ## Verification - Conflict resolution: merge `b1566ca494f4af6e8d4418fa37393c5caee02582` from master into head `55140b1609ae7bd21a038eb75a48c2683299e4b4`. Combine both secret-expression guards and regression cases. Preserve current workspace, native recovery, and Daytona changes. All 467 policy tests, 787 focused native/connector/Browser Use tests, and server typecheck passed locally after integration. Fresh full CI passed all 55 checks on this head, with two optional Storybook jobs skipped. Greptile reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - Focused native startup, connector concurrency, and AgentMail suites — 763 tests passed. - Complete Browser Use suite — 33 tests passed. Focused Slack catalog, linked task, retained provenance/revocation, and pinned native tool tests passed. The complete runner tool authority suite passed (26 tests). The 1,337-case chat suite passed 1,335 tests and had two failures: the original new transaction-count assertion and a 15-second timeout in the publication-batch case. Both cases passed an isolated rerun. The publication timeout occurred during concurrent local checks; the passing rerun does not erase it. CI must still pass the chat shards. - The first focused run found two incorrect new assertions: policy evaluation performs a second catalog lookup, and an explicit allow policy overrides a profile default. The tests now distinguish the scoped catalog query and revoke the governing policy. The focused Browser Use rerun passed all 33 cases after these assertion fixes. - Full-suite test verification used the CI shards of `pnpm test:run`. Local runs focused on the changed boundaries; the complete repository test command was not duplicated locally. - `node --test '.github/scripts/tests/*.test.mjs'` — all 467 policy tests passed. The CI failure reproduced on the unchanged base guard before this correction. Actual GitHub secret expressions still match the guard. - CI on the final head passed all chat shards, typecheck, build, Runner checks, browser shards, and other test lanes. One existing workspace-runtime case hit `EADDRINUSE` for a randomly selected test listener in server shard 1/12 (1,162 tests passed in that shard). The shard passed its single retry on the same SHA with no source changes. The first failure remains recorded here. Previous reviewed head `7191ac40691ddb1ef38b86665c95cc14c57ea390`: all 55 checks passed, two optional Storybook jobs skipped, and no pending or failed checks. Greptile is 5/5 on this head with no unresolved review threads. The external security scan passed. Local before/after measurements use the old and new implementations against the same fixture. Both paths are warmed. Seven samples alternate execution order. The database is real embedded PostgreSQL. No latency is injected. These measurements do not establish hosted speed. | Local path | Before median (range) | After median (range) | Work reduction | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Browser Use assignment with 500 unrelated MCP tools | 44.020 ms (33.994–107.328) | 26.502 ms (20.385–99.037) | 26 → 22 statements; unrelated catalog and discovery queue removed | | Slack assignment with current catalog and linked responsible user | 49.723 ms (43.624–80.653) | 22.141 ms (19.781–30.818) | 5 → 2 database transactions; no catalog lock on the current path | The contention regression fails against the old implementation after a bounded five-second wait, then passes against the optimized implementation. It occupies the real global discovery scheduler and verifies that Browser Use assignment completes without releasing those slots. It records catalog SQL to verify connection scope. Revocation cases remove policy, catalog availability, and grants between calls. Existing Slack integration cases exercise retained provenance, removed profile bindings, identity revocation, approved writes, and current responsible-user restrictions. ## Risks - Pinned native tool definitions can remain visible after access is revoked. They confer no authority. Invocation rechecks current assignments and fails closed before an operation executes. Newly available connector families still require a newly admitted skill selection. - Concurrent resolution can increase instantaneous database reads to four connector families per configuration call. It is a fixed bound. Outstanding work settles before a failed preparation returns. - Slack skips reconciliation only when all bundled version hashes and an existing profile match. Missing or changed definitions still use the existing locked path. Operator revocations remain effective. - This PR addresses connector preparation. Workspace transfer, provider startup, copyback, and queue delay can still keep total latency above the user's goal. Hosted improvement needs a deployed before/after trace. - No schema, lockfile, workflow, telemetry event, or authorization cache changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and GitHub tools. fix(native): recover remote sessions while preserving warm runs (#16451)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native agents keep remote processes and conversation history across warm turns. > - A completed turn can leave handoff authority only in controller memory. > - Losing that controller can block a follow-up even while its sandbox survives. > - This pull request verifies durable ownership and reconnects the exact prior process before handing it to the next run. > - Healthy follow-ups stay warm. Recovery preserves saved work without replaying a completed turn. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A remote warm turn can finish without suspended backup authority. A replacement controller rejects that prior owner even when its exact process and completed checkpoint remain. A single unavailable identity probe can also stop an otherwise valid reattachment. **Expected behavior** Keep healthy follow-ups warm. Recover a completed session after proving that its controller stopped and that the successor holds current authority. Reuse compatible processes; otherwise save and resume the conversation. Retry unavailable identity reads within one shared deadline. **Steps to reproduce** Use `doc/testing-native-remote-continuity.md`. Its Linux cases execute real turns through PostgreSQL, TLS ingress, and the Rust runner. They kill a separate controller process, recover old checkpoint metadata, and change process configuration. The provider is deterministic. Related: #16432 and #16441 fix live warm-owner handoffs. #16341 adds recovery diagnostics. #14695 covers provider process retention. ## What Changed - Preserve warm process reuse between healthy remote turns. - Verify a committed prior result, stopped controller, matching checkpoint and sandbox, and current task/coordinator ownership before recovering an orphaned warm session. - Reconnect through the prior run route, then use the existing authenticated run attachment to change authority. - Persist a process-configuration digest. Close and save recovered sessions when old or changed configuration cannot support reuse. - Retry unavailable state, marker, and process reads within one 30-second deadline. Keep signals and definitive identity failures single-attempt. - Record closed recovery diagnostics, including unreadable or malformed saved state. - Retire the recovery-only ownership check after verified attachment, so later warm turns use their current authority. - Add real-process Linux regressions and refusal controls. - Expose the existing source-only file-recovery form for retained native holds, with the same board authority, evidence, and exact stop-receipt requirements as legacy holds. Recording recovered files does not change task status or replay a run. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed; the server check was repeated for the third-turn fix. - `pnpm build` passed after the final UI change. The UI typecheck, token gates, and map checks also pass. - Four Linux continuity cases passed: warm reuse, controller loss, legacy checkpoint metadata, and changed configuration. Each creates one conversation and starts exactly three turns, including a healthy follow-up after recovery. The fixture uses expired prior leases; the third turn keeps the runner and provider processes. - Greptile caught the retained recovery gate; the third-turn regression now covers it. An initial test omitted the heartbeat’s saved input and left a test process after failure; the fixture was corrected and its disposable container reset before the passing run. - The current focused executor/restart group passes all 749 tests, including the original failure classifications. - Native file-recovery and UI tests pass (52 tests), including blocked tasks and both native and legacy holds. - After merging current master and retaining its equivalent CI expression check, the CI policy tests pass (15 tests) and all four three-turn Linux continuity cases pass again on `dec418ae55ff21b4fb067132613658cce445f181`. - `pnpm test:run` completed its general server group with 20,572 passes, 103 skips, and three failures: the skill-audit child process and two HTTP test timeouts. The same three suites then passed in isolation (89 tests) without code changes. That local command stopped before later groups; the complete final-head CI, including general, serialized, Runner, build, and browser gates, is green. - Greptile reviewed the combined head `dec418ae55ff21b4fb067132613658cce445f181` at 5/5 with no actionable findings; both earlier findings are resolved. All final-head CI gates and the security scan passed. Staging deployment and retained-incident disposition remain deployment acceptance work. ## Risks - Recovery requires exact durable evidence. Live conflicting controllers, replacement sandboxes, Stop/pause, and uncertain effects must remain blocked. - After controller loss, tool-contract or process-configuration changes can restart the provider. Normal healthy follow-ups retain their processes. - The new idle-recovery path has Linux fake-provider evidence. Live Codex/OpenCode and retained quarantined-state recovery still need staging qualification. - No database schema, telemetry, or runner protocol changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and browser tools. The session does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted checks and isolated reruns; full-run limitation recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on `dec418ae55ff21b4fb067132613658cce445f181` - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(observability): detail workspace and connector preparation (#16454)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares a repository, sandbox workspace, and connector access before an agent can reply. > - Existing traces measure large preparation phases but leave important work inside those phases unclear. > - Repository source materialization and Browser Use discovery can do more work than their callers suggest. > - New detail must preserve access checks, run ownership, and the existing work order. > - This pull request adds fixed OpenTelemetry spans inside those operations. > - Operators can use one deployed trace to select the next performance fix. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16419, #16425, #16428. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Startup traces for server workspace preparation, native sandbox synchronization, and connector assignment resolution. **Current behavior** Workspace and connector aggregate spans can take many seconds. The trace does not separate private source cloning, seed reuse, archive work, progress persistence, or each connector resolver. Browser Use resource selection builds the full authorized tool catalog. The configuration and native backend can each resolve connector assignments. **Proposed behavior** Show the awaited work as fixed child spans. Separate discovery queue wait from catalog construction. Preserve the initiating run context when another run releases a scheduler slot. Add no new lifecycle event writes for workspace detail callbacks. **Reason and benefit** Operators need evidence about the hosted critical path before another performance change. These spans distinguish filesystem work, provider transfer, authorization, transaction entry, locks, and reporting overhead. **Breaking changes** None. Authorization, query order, transaction ownership, synchronization, existing progress events, and task results retain their contracts. The change adds opt-in Observability spans under the existing OTLP endpoint gate. ## What Changed - Trace private source directory setup, Git credentials, clone, requested ref, source identity, and checkout publication. - Trace sandbox source capture, seed cache/replay, shallow clone and archive, overlay copy/archive, verification, upload, warm stamps, and descriptor persistence. - Separate existing awaited progress reporting from useful workspace work. Keep new detail callbacks trace-only. - Trace each connector resolver and Browser Use catalog/grant work. Split discovery queueing, descriptor sources, and policy evaluation. - Trace Slack authority, credential reads, catalog synchronization, transaction entry/settlement, and advisory locks. - Update the real filesystem staging trace expectations and the Honeycomb investigation guide. - Add a real scheduler regression for a queued job released by another run. Assert run ownership, parent spans, and exactly one completed queue span. ## Verification - Passed: server and adapter-utils TypeScript checks (`pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsc --noEmit` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec tsc --noEmit`). - Passed: 252 checks across 9 focused files. These cover real filesystem staging, native workspace synchronization, trace ownership, endpoint gating, and workspace preparation. - Passed after review: 26 trace-context, tracing-failure, and discovery-scheduler checks across 3 files (these overlap the first run). The new queued-discovery regression fails when context binding is removed and passes after restoration. An initial submillisecond timestamp assertion was replaced with explicit span-completion order to avoid SDK clock precision assumptions. - Passed on implementation commit `0e68968a4bd61001893d833f281f12bb110edbe1`: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later commit updates only an engine test expectation. - The first CI workspace lane found an old engine trace-tree expectation. It expected the earlier span set. The updated assertion now checks the new detail spans, their parents, and single completion. Its targeted executor check passes. - The full test suite, build, release registry, and end-to-end gates pass in CI on final head `40e37d89ef679109d60a96bb5731a0616efeaa43`: 55 passing checks and 2 optional Storybook skips. The full suite was not duplicated locally after the focused run. - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5. No unresolved review threads remain. - After deployment, filter Honeycomb by the hashed run ID and verify `service.version`. Inspect `heartbeat.prepare.workspace`, `runtime_selection.workspace_sync`, and the connector assignment parents. The guide in `doc/observability.md` explains each new family and the nested intervals. - No hosted run has used this new instrumentation yet. Local checks cannot establish hosted latency improvement. ## Risks - Tracing adds spans when an operator configures an OTLP endpoint. Detail remains capped at 16 spans per phase per execution attempt. - Parent and child durations overlap. The documentation explains how to avoid counting them twice. - A discovery job can start in another run's scheduler continuation. The bound callback preserves the initiating async context. - New spans export fixed names and the existing hashed run ID. They add no paths, repository URLs, connector resource IDs, credentials, tool schemas, or exception text. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): serialize warm idle expiry with turn admission (#16432)
The warm idle timer no longer closes a warm native session while a continuation has reserved or is preparing the same session scope; it re-arms instead. An idle close that has already started is registered in closingWarmNativeSessions so turn admission waits for the checkpoint, matching the other closers. fix(grok): avoid false file recovery after Stop (#16427)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and their work. > - Grok Bot uses a managed Runner and a fixed external work session. > - Its admitted contract gives it no access to Paperclip workspace files. > - The Runner still has a sync descriptor to support durable recovery. > - Cancellation treated that descriptor as proof that files needed repair. > - This pull request uses the admitted access contract while preserving ownership settlement. > - Users get the correct recovery action after Stop, with native file safeguards intact. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16219 and #16422. The duplicate search found no open Grok workspace correction. **What happened?** A real Grok Stop test cancelled its run, fenced its assignment, denied a stale progress update and cleaned up the sandbox. Paperclip also created a file-repair hold. The recovery panel told the user to recover workspace files, although the admitted external contract has workspace access set to none. **Expected behavior** Keep the stopped session fenced and require inspection before new work. Keep failed-run ownership settlement. Do not invent a file export obligation for a session that cannot access the workspace. Native sessions with writable or unknown workspace access must keep their file safeguards. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Connect a Grok Bot and assign a task. 2. Let it accept the task and save a Paperclip checkpoint document. 3. Use Stop while it is working. 4. Inspect the task recovery panel. It asks for file repair after sandbox cleanup succeeds. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed on Core |

Trace execution preparation and durable response persistence (#16419)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares an execution environment before it starts an agent. > - Operators need to distinguish preparation, provider wait, and response persistence. > - Existing preparation phases start separate traces, and the native session trace ends before the final response is saved. > - This pull request adds an execution-attempt trace and detailed spans at the existing work boundaries. > - The benefit is a measurable startup and settlement path without changing execution policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator-configured OpenTelemetry tracing for agent preparation, startup, and durable response storage. **Subsystem affected** Server orchestration, native Runner startup, and the Honeycomb run link. **Current behavior** Preparation phases start independent roots. Workspace lock waits, authorization groups, runtime asset work, provider-pack fallback, and the gap after provider completion are hard to attribute. **Proposed behavior** Use a server-owned async context for each execution attempt. Parent nested work to that attempt. Link the separately sampled native session because its ingress and queue history can begin earlier. Record transaction entry, lock waits, grouped authorization, asset preparation, artifact fallback, copyback, and response commit. **Reason and benefit** Operators can identify expensive work from recorded boundaries instead of inferring the cause from elapsed time. Nested and concurrent durations remain visible and must not be added together. **Breaking changes** No API or execution-policy change. New Observability span names and closed count attributes are documented. The existing local run-performance schema also records the additional provider-pack and harness measurements. Refs: #16178, #16205, #16330. ## What Changed - Add `task.execution_attempt` with same-run async ownership, independent root sampling, and native-session links. - Measure workspace transaction entry and settlement, advisory and row waits, source scans, reader groups, notifications, and writes. - Measure runtime selection and each concurrent instructions, skills, and MCP branch. Separate manifest, cache, materialization, and verification work. - Measure provider-pack discovery, verified reuse or upload, final verification, and remote harness state checks. - Measure workspace settlement, accounting, liveness, response authorization, comment commit, and publication enqueue. - Preserve the silent endpoint-off path, including when another library has registered a tracer. Bound repeated detail spans to 16 per name per attempt. - Extend the Honeycomb run link and document the actual coverage and remaining gaps. ## Verification - After resolving the conflict with retained-reader batching on `b98cdaea531c8447637cd4dcc19c61b3f5f41844`, all 61 targeted query, authorization, workspace-preparation and trace-boundary tests passed. The server typecheck passed. Reader tests still bound query count, avoid loading retained run payloads and enforce fresh project grants on every publication attempt. - Before that base integration, the tracing/exporter group passed 855 tests with 2 optional-SDK skips across 10 files and no inherited OTLP endpoint. It covers real PostgreSQL waits/rollback, durable response commit, assembled heartbeat preparation, concurrent parentage, sampling and tracer failure isolation. Native workspace/history tests passed 23 cases. These results remain supporting evidence for the unchanged tracing paths. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed during implementation. Full sharded CI, release validation, E2E and Apex 5/5 passed on prior head `8cebad80f3856dbcff6f3a6d5d34880ff77a20f2`. Fresh CI, security and Apex review are required on the current head before merge. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. No styles changed. - Earlier CI runs exposed exact-source-expression assertions changed by wrappers, missing run hashes on transaction-boundary spans, and sampling fixtures without an enabled endpoint. The fixes preserve the calls, add the declared hash and span cap, and enable tracing explicitly in the sampling fixtures. Focused repairs passed; the full prior-head CI passed after those repairs. Earlier failed run: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38729131366. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the base advanced during that process. Its mixed-version results are not final-head evidence. A full local-suite pass is not claimed. - The old-head Superagent scan stalled at 35%. The current head has a fresh scan; no security pass is inferred from the old pending result. - No deployed Honeycomb acceptance is claimed by this code change. ## Risks - Enabled tracing creates more spans. Repeated detail spans are bounded, and inventories use group spans. - The attempt and native session remain linked traces. Historical queue time can precede the attempt, and nested intervals overlap. - A committed comment proves durable server storage. Publication enqueue and realtime dispatch do not prove external delivery or browser paint. - New custom attributes use only the existing run hash and validated file/byte counts. No SQL, paths, permissions, content, or exception text is added. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The serving model ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, tools, code editing, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: isolate workspace snapshots from controller work (#16414)
Move native sandbox snapshot captures off the controller callback queue while preserving the existing capture and restore contract. fix: replay prepared warm seeds when generation caching is unavailable (#16399)
Replay this preparation’s verified private workspace seed after failed warm validation, including when the generation cache refuses publication. Preserve host-current semantics and rebuild if the private seed is missing or changed. Verified 89 focused cases, full typecheck/build, exact-head CI/E2E/security and Apex 5/5. Live PAP latency acceptance remains separate. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: reuse verified seeds after warm workspace fallback (#16398)
Preserve the verified company/workspace seed-cache scope when a warm sandbox requires host-current staging. Keep remote identity checks, archive digests and rebuilding for missing or corrupt cache generations. 85 focused cases and full repository typecheck/build pass. Exact-head full CI/E2E, Superagent, legacy Snyk and Apex 5/5 pass with no unresolved findings. No staging response-time claim is made. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): retain unexported workspaces after execution failure (#16397)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native agents can edit files in a remote sandbox before they submit a result. > - A process identity or startup failure can end the run before file export. > - Cleanup can then delete the sandbox and its unpublished files. > - This pull request retains the exact source and records a file repair action before cleanup. > - Operators can recover the files without replaying the failed turn or changing the task owner. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native remote process had completed local edits when process identity recovery failed. The run still had a prepared workspace reference and no accepted result. Cleanup deleted the source sandbox. No file recovery card appeared. A restarted run can hit the same path during setup, before the native executor starts. **Expected behavior** Retain the exact unexported source. Show the existing file recovery card. Require source stop and file recovery evidence. Keep task ownership, status, and external action reconciliation separate from file repair. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a native agent in a remote ephemeral workspace and make unpublished edits. 2. Fail process identity recovery before result acceptance or file export. 3. Allow failure handling and lease cleanup to run. 4. Before this change, cleanup can destroy the source without a file repair action. Refs: #16341 for related process identity diagnostics. Refs: #16349 for startup ownership fencing. This change addresses file retention after failure. ## What Changed - Record source retention and a file recovery action in the terminal native failure transaction. - Cover restarted preparation failures before the terminal setup writer and cleanup run. - Require the exact company, run, lease, provider allocation, and workspace binding. Require the exact live recovery claim to settle an owned preparation failure. Refuse stale or competing claims. - Reuse the existing stop-only cleanup and file-only reconciliation path. Leave accepted results and scheduled same-run recovery on their existing paths. - Document the retention rule and add database and runtime boundary regressions. ## Verification - All 1,242 tests passed across the full heartbeat recovery suite, native executor, native source retention, runtime teardown, run completion, and legacy file recovery. - The integrated missing-descriptor regression fails before the inner-handler fix and passes after it. The runtime retention and owned restart regressions also reproduce their prior failures. - The tests cover exact source identity, current and stale claims, atomic rollback, cancellation, idempotence, and file-only repair on a completed task. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed on the final code. - `pnpm build` passed on the final code. - Full repository CI passed on `3945eb2ba5c228c5d4992da02b765dcf2e634cb8`: 54 successful checks and two skipped Storybook checks. - Apex scored 5/5 on that exact commit. Both earlier findings are fixed and all review threads are resolved. - The unsharded local `pnpm test:run` is still in progress. It is not counted as a local full-suite pass; complete suite coverage is verified in CI. ## Risks - Failed runs can retain a sandbox that needs operator cleanup after file recovery. This uses the existing retention policy and recovery controls. - This does not recover files from allocations that were already deleted. - No schema migration, UI change, or telemetry change is required. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. Tool use, code execution, and reasoning assisted this change. The environment identifies the model as GPT-6; it does not expose a more specific serving snapshot or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native): report why an unclassified Codex turn failed (#16354)
<!-- Write all pull request text in Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, one instruction per sentence, simple approved vocabulary, and the active voice. --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Native runs use the Paperclip runner to drive a provider session, for example the Codex app server > - When a Codex turn fails, two classifiers look for known failures: a model rejection and a server capacity failure > - When no classifier matches, the run fails with the generic message `Native session failed` and the error code `adapter_failed` > - The run failure report to Sentry then has no data about the cause, because the server drops the Codex `codexErrorInfo` value > - This pull request records a closed-vocabulary diagnostic for that failed turn and sends it to the Sentry `provider_failure` context > - The benefit is that operators can see which Codex failure kind causes these generic failures, and then write a targeted fix ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Hosted staging reports many run failures with the title `Error: Native session failed`. The events have `agent_adapter=paperclip_runner`, `error_code=adapter_failed`, `driverKind=codex_app_server`, and `exitCode=1`. The events do not show why the Codex turn failed. **Expected behavior** A run failure report for a failed Codex turn shows the failure kind, so that an operator can find the cause. The report must not contain provider response text, prompts, or model names. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native Codex run. 2. Make the Codex app server end the turn with `status: "failed"` and an error that is not a model rejection or `serverOverloaded`. For example, use `codexErrorInfo: "contextWindowExceeded"`. 3. Look at the Sentry event for the run failure. Before this change, the `provider_failure` context is empty. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Codex (native runner, `codex_app_server` driver). ## What Changed - `native-provider-failure.ts`: The provider failure observation now records a diagnostic for each failed Codex turn. The diagnostic has only closed values: `provider: "codex"`, `category: "turn_failed"`, a known `CodexErrorInfo` kind (or `unrecognized` / `absent`), an HTTP status from 100 to 599 for the HTTP variants, and a runner failure code from an explicit allowlist of the codes the runner itself writes on a failed Codex turn (any other string becomes `unrecognized`, because a provider error object can carry its own `code`). It never copies the provider message. - New `unclassifiedTurnFailure()` gives this diagnostic only for a failed terminal turn that `forTerminal()` does not classify. `forTerminal()`, error codes, error messages, retries, and finalizer decisions do not change. - New `readNativeTurnFailureDiagnostic()` rebuilds a persisted value from the closed vocabulary and rejects all other values. - `native-session-executor.ts`: The adapter result keeps the generic message. It adds `resultJson.nativeTurnFailure` when the turn failure is unclassified. - `run-failure-diagnostics.ts`: The run failure report copies the validated diagnostic into the `provider` context. Sentry sends this as `provider_failure`. - Tests: unit tests for the vocabulary, HTTP status bounds, unknown kinds, runner codes, and privacy; a diagnostics test; and an update to the end-to-end executor test for the `unknown-error` scenario. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run src/services/native-runtime/native-provider-failure src/services/__tests__/run-failure-diagnostics.test.ts src/services/__tests__/run-failure-report*.test.ts src/__tests__/sentry*.test.ts` (in `server/`): 6 files, 432 passed, 5 skipped. - `pnpm exec vitest run src/services/native-runtime/native-session-executor.test.ts` (in `server/`): 698 passed. - I could not run the full `tsc --noEmit` in my sandbox: the memory limit stopped the process, and the runner vendor build needs `cargo`. CI runs the full typecheck. - To check by hand: make a Codex turn fail with an unclassified error. Then make sure that the Sentry event `provider_failure` context shows `category: turn_failed` and the `codexErrorInfo` kind, and no provider text. ## Risks - Low risk. The change adds diagnostic data only. Run status, error code, error message, retry, and finalizer logic do not change. - Privacy: the diagnostic uses an allowlist of Codex enum names, a bounded integer, and an allowlist of runner-issued failure codes. Tests make sure that provider text does not get through. - If Codex adds a new `CodexErrorInfo` kind, the diagnostic shows `unrecognized` until the allowlist gets the new kind. - This change does not fix the root cause. It gives the data that is necessary to find the cause. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`), Anthropic, used through Claude Code with tool use (shell, file edit, test runs). `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Related: #15347 (capacity classifier), #15304 (model rejection diagnostics). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: devinfoley <139239+devinfoley@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(native-runtime): recover unclaimed remote startup (#16349)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native runtime preserves task execution across server restarts. > - Remote workspace preparation can finish before the executor claims its first provider attempt. > - The recovery classifier required a provider checkpoint even when the durable coordinator proved that execution had never started. > - A deployment during this interval therefore left safe startup work on a permanent recovery hold. > - This pull request admits that narrow startup state to the existing same-run bootstrap path. Existing execution and ownership checks remain in force. > - The original preparation yields when recovery owns the coordinator. It cannot fail or clean up the recovered run. > - Tasks can continue after this interruption without an operator retry or a duplicate provider turn. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A server deployment interrupted a prepared remote workspace before the native executor's first claim. The coordinator had attempt zero, controller generation zero, and no owner, process, provider event, or checkpoint. Restart classification returned `ambiguous_remote_recovery_evidence` and blocked the task. **Expected behavior** The server should recognize this durable never-claimed state and continue the original run through normal execution admission. A prior claim, uncertain ownership, or contradictory execution evidence must retain the recovery hold. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Prepare a remote workspace for a native run. 2. Stop the controller before the executor commits its first claim. 3. Restart the controller and classify the running native task. 4. Observe that the old classifier blocks it because no provider checkpoint exists. Related: #16341 preserves remote recovery failure reasons. #16344 strengthens remote restart qualification. Neither changes admission for an untouched remote startup. ## What Changed - Require a server-owned fencing version written only with fresh native identities. Older unmarked preparations stay held during rolling upgrades; caller profile data cannot add that marker to an existing run. - Leave the current server's active preparation with its existing execution. - Yield through the controller-detachment path when a different execution owns the coordinator lease. Lease expiry does not grant takeover authority. - Preserve run-scoped gateway tokens during detachment so stale preparation cannot revoke the recovered worker's tools. - Admit a valid prepared remote workspace only when the locked coordinator proves attempt and controller generation zero, no owner, and no prior session or execution evidence. - Check launch receipts and provider source events before granting bootstrap recovery. - Keep the original run and session. Preserve atomic recovery claims, executor durable-state checks, and normal admission gates. - Add real PostgreSQL regression tests for competing controllers and seven contradictory evidence cases. - Update recovery documentation, the run-log reason, and both capability maps. ## Verification - The competing-controller regressions failed before the ownership fix and pass for both live and expired foreign leases. - On the final revision, 77 runtime-selection, restart recovery, real PostgreSQL, and heartbeat boundary tests pass with no skips, including all local runner process fixtures. The full native executor file passes all 698 tests. - Another 91 live-run route tests pass locally. An earlier CI timeout in that unrelated file passed on retry; the complete final-head CI passed without that failure. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check`: passed locally. The map check verifies structure only. - Local `pnpm test:run` did not finish: an early attempt had build-related collection failures, and later full-suite execution was stopped after complete CI passed. Targeted suites passed after build preparation. This is not a local full-suite pass. - The complete [PR workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38669996667) passed on `2baffb3652bfeb4705a30ca3706fbda6c3d72aa4`, including all test shards, build/typecheck, runner verification, and browser E2E. All 55 applicable review/security/CI checks succeeded; two Storybook checks were skipped. - [Greptile Apex](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16349#issuecomment-6180848957): 5/5 on the same final head, with no unresolved findings. - No live remote provider restart is claimed by the database regression. ## Risks - A bare executor can no longer take a foreign coordinator lease after expiry. A verified recovery claim must transfer authority first. - Existing preparations without the server-owned fencing marker retain their recovery hold during rolling upgrades. - Incorrect admission could duplicate provider work. This path requires a positive durable never-claimed receipt, rejects contradictory launch evidence, and keeps the executor's existing durable-root verification. - Previously claimed or incomplete remote recovery evidence remains blocked. This change does not clear historical terminal holds. - No schema, API, dependency, or UI changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser inspection. The exact serving snapshot ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> |

perf(server): stop readiness waiting on startup housekeeping (#16329)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - On restart, `/api/health` reports `starting` until startup recovery finishes, and deploy tooling waits for `ok` > - After heartbeat recovery, readiness also waits for housekeeping that every scheduler tick repeats and that serving requests does not need > - #16330 added OpenTelemetry spans for the main startup phases; native recovery and orphan reaping are the slow ones, and both run the native finalization reconciliation pass, which has no inner breakdown > - This pull request stops readiness waiting on that housekeeping, and records the phases of slow reconciliation passes as spans > - The benefit is faster readiness on every restart, and traces that show where a slow reconciliation pass spends its time ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on #16330, which records `controller.startup.<phase>` spans. Related to #16328. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Server readiness time after a restart, and diagnosis of slow native recovery. **Current behavior** - After heartbeat recovery, readiness waits for the custom-image setup cleanup, tool connection health (remote MCP checks), decision expiry, the adapter and setup-token login reapers, environment lease cleanup (provider calls) and the retention sweep. Each also runs on every scheduler tick. On one instance they added 11–28 s to every measured restart. A throw in any of them fails startup. - On the same instance, native recovery took from 33 s to 11.5 min and orphan reaping from 30 s to 4 min across restarts in one hour. Both run the native finalization reconciliation pass. The #16330 spans time each step as a whole, but not the phases inside that pass. **Proposed behavior** - The housekeeping steps run after readiness. The scheduler interval still starts after them. - With an OTLP endpoint, a reconciliation pass of at least one second records a span with one child span per phase. **Reason and benefit** Readiness depends only on what serving requests and run recovery need. Slow reconciliation passes become attributable to a phase in the existing traces, without adding trace volume for the periodic pass. **Breaking changes** None. A failed housekeeping step no longer fails startup; it is logged and the next step runs. ## What Changed - `server/src/index.ts`: moves the housekeeping steps into `runStartupHousekeeping`, which runs after readiness under `trackHeartbeatSchedulerWork` (idle sleep and shutdown wait for it). Each step catches and logs its own failure (`startup housekeeping step failed`). The heartbeat scheduler interval starts when housekeeping finishes, unless the scheduler was stopped, so the reapers still finish before the first timer tick. - New `server/src/services/native-runtime/native-reconciliation-timing.ts`: records the phase boundaries of one pass. When the pass took at least one second and an OTLP endpoint is configured, it emits a `controller.native_reconciliation` root span (`paperclip.native-reconciliation`) with child spans `legacy_workspace_exports`, `obsolete_policy_reviews`, `automatic_completion_reviews`, `candidate_scan` and `candidates`, using the recorded start and end times. It records `scoped` and the candidate count only. A failed pass marks the pass span and the running phase. Tracing failures are swallowed. - `native-finalization-reconciler.ts`: the exported function wraps the pass in that timing and finishes it in `finally`, so failed passes are recorded; the original error is rethrown. - `doc/execution-semantics.md`: what readiness waits for, and the housekeeping order. `doc/observability.md`: the reconciliation spans. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-reconciliation-timing.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-finalization-reconciler-timing.test.ts src/startup-recovery-timing.test.ts` (in `server/`): 52 passed. New tests: - Readiness is `ready` while a housekeeping step hangs, and the heartbeat interval starts only after the step settles. - A failed housekeeping step is logged, and the scheduler still starts after the remaining steps. - Span timing: nothing for a fast pass or without an endpoint; a slow pass emits the pass span and one child per phase with the recorded times; a failed pass marks the running phase and the pass; a failing tracer does not throw. - The reconciler records its phases and a failed outcome when a pass throws, and rethrows. - Three existing startup tests settle housekeeping before they read the scheduler interval or the setup cleanup. - `pnpm exec vitest run src/services/native-runtime`: 4,399 passed. - `pnpm typecheck` in `server/`: passed. ## Risks - Housekeeping now runs concurrently with the first requests and with `waitForExternalAdapters`. None of these steps is needed to serve requests, and each one also runs on every scheduler tick. - Readiness is reported earlier; the heartbeat timer starts at the same point relative to housekeeping as before. - The new spans exist only with an OTLP endpoint and only for passes of at least one second. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`), 1M context, through Claude Code with tool use (shell, file edits, test runs). `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

trace(server): time workspace, native setup and startup recovery (#16330)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their work. > - The controller prepares workspaces before it starts a Runner. > - A slow run can spend 30–80 seconds inside the combined workspace phase. > - Startup recovery can also delay queued work for minutes. > - Native runs also have gaps before Runner startup and after the provider result. > - Existing traces do not identify the awaited steps inside those intervals. > - This change adds closed timing boundaries around the existing operations. > - Operators can locate the wait without changing execution or exposing content. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator-configured OpenTelemetry diagnosis of controller preparation and startup recovery. Related: #16178, #16236 and #16285 introduced the existing preparation timing and sampling contract. #16306 and #16312 reduce separate configuration and copyback work. **Current behavior** The workspace interval combines source resolution, trust checks, provisioning, database persistence, binding and repository admission. Startup awaits accounting and native recovery before queued work resumes, but neither has a separate duration. Native backend setup and post-turn cleanup also contain unmeasured awaits. CPU profiles and a fast database probe cannot identify which await is slow. **Proposed behavior** Record workspace steps and native controller setup and cleanup with the existing hashed run ID. Record startup phases as independent, operator-sampled root spans without custom attributes. Keep the same operation order, results, failures and authorization. **Reason and benefit** These boundaries distinguish source work, database writes, repository admission and restart recovery. This is a diagnosis change. It does not claim a response-time improvement or a solved latency budget. ## What Changed - Add 14 closed workspace step names around 16 existing awaits. Repeated updates and bindings produce separate spans. - Time startup tool reviews, gateway sessions, delivery-worker readiness, accounting, plugin readiness, native recovery, hot restart, orphan reaping, retries, queued work and goal recovery. - Time native GitHub setup, wake binding, backend construction, connector assignments, MCP discovery, tool authority, companion selection and binary resolution. Time selected post-turn GitHub, coordinator and instruction cleanup awaits. - Move preparation timing to a pure shared module. Keep the existing heartbeat import as an alias. Both heartbeat and native timing skip tracer lookup when the endpoint is unset or blank, including when another library registered a provider. - Tracing lookup, callback, status and end faults cannot repeat work or replace its value or error. - Add real PostgreSQL workspace timing coverage and silent no-op/fault controls. Update the tracing contract and paired run maps. - Keep span attributes closed. Startup spans add none; workspace steps use only the existing run hash. No commands, paths, returned records or exception messages are recorded. ## Verification - Diagnostic-gap baseline: the new real workspace test fails against the unchanged workspace implementation because the expected step spans are absent. It passes with the wrappers. - Final affected coverage: **804 distinct cases pass** across seven complete suites: 698 native-executor cases, 39 real PostgreSQL workspace cases, 61 timing/context/startup cases, and six execution-configuration integration cases. The final native and unit invocations pass with no selected skips. The workspace suite passed in the initial six-file invocation on the same final workspace source. - Preserve the initial six-file attempt as failed: **7 failed and 789 passed**. All seven errors occurred during embedded PostgreSQL startup. The log reports local macOS shared-memory exhaustion. A fresh 15-case database group passes, followed by the complete 698-case native suite. These runs overlap; do not add their counts. - The new native timing assertion fails against unchanged native code because the expected spans are absent. It passes with the wrappers and retains the credential-isolation assertions. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed on the final production source. Earlier nullable-closure errors are fixed with erased assertions inside existing guards. The failed attempts remain recorded. - Normalized AST comparison: removing only timing wrappers, timing imports/local handles and erased assertions restores the original workspace, startup and native executor programs. This checks call order and policy expressions; it is not live acceptance. - The expanded head first failed two configuration integration assertions because their test providers had no endpoint. Configure the endpoint explicitly in those two tracing tests, and restore it after each test. All six cases then pass with the original credential cleanup, redaction and exact span assertions. Production is unchanged by this repair. - The first PR head failed one unchanged attachment test at its 15-second deadline in CI. The complete 32-case attachment suite passes locally with that deadline. Do not label the failed CI attempt green. The expanded head needs fresh full CI. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`: passed, 35 areas and 176 capability IDs. `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs`: 283 files and 2,728 stories. Structural checks only; no browser, play or Storybook build claim. - `git diff --check`: passed. No added prose comments, lockfile changes or new 1,000-line crossings. - A duplicate full local test run was not started. Fresh exact-head full CI and E2E pass on `15a683bb2419960f611584f8c07cdcfc9ce3af0b`. All 56 check runs are successful or optional skipped. Superagent and legacy Snyk pass. Completed Apex review is 5/5 on this same head, with zero unresolved review threads. Commands: ```sh pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server --maxWorkers=1 --fileParallelism=false server/src/services/native-runtime/native-session-executor.test.ts server/src/services/execution-preparation-timing.test.ts server/src/startup-recovery-timing.test.ts server/src/services/heartbeat/preparation-timing.test.ts server/src/services/heartbeat/preparation-timing-context.test.ts server/src/services/heartbeat/workspace-preparation.test.ts pnpm -r typecheck pnpm build node scripts/check-maps.mjs node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs ``` ## Risks - Configured operators receive more spans. They still follow the configured sampler and exporter. - Startup spans measure the awaited phase, including remaining readiness waits. They do not measure earlier worker construction or a provider turn. - Workspace and native setup intervals overlap their containing phases. Do not add them to the parent duration. refactor(core): share Runner execution lifecycle (#16318)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Core starts Runners in local, SSH, and sandbox environments. > - Coding runs, Dot runs, and setup probes repeat connection setup code. > - These paths must keep the same preparation, authentication, and cleanup order. > - This pull request gives them one execution lifecycle contract and one server connection driver. > - Core keeps the existing PRP control plane after connection. > - The benefit is one place to maintain environment routing before adding another execution provider. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Runner environment preparation and connection setup across local, SSH, and sandbox execution. **Current behavior** The coding transport owns the environment hook type. Dot borrows that type. The server repeats connection selection, registration, ingress activation, and release in task execution and setup probes. Changes to one path can miss another path. **Proposed behavior** Use a shared `RunnerExecutionDriver` contract. Route built-in task execution and remote setup probes through `createNativeRunnerExecutionDriver`. Keep provider session setup, process supervision, PRP commands, and recovery logic on their existing paths. **Reason and benefit** Environment code can prepare resources and provide a connection without adding another PRP execution path. The same driver preserves local loopback, remote outbound WSS, and authorized sandbox ingress. **Breaking changes** None intended. Existing flat SDK options remain compatible. This is an in-process contract. It does not add a plugin wire contract or Launcher APIs. **Additional context** Related: #15406 proposes plugin-provided Runner execution. This change starts from `master` and does not depend on that PR. It extracts the existing lifecycle before adding another provider. Related: #16125 covers remote environment support for external adapters; this PR does not implement that feature. ## What Changed - Extract and export `RunnerExecutionDriver` from the coding transport. Use it for coding and Dot options. - Share server connection negotiation across coding runs, Dot runs, and remote setup probes. - Preserve outbound validation before staging, capability checks before ingress, process dispatch before ingress connection, and verified process readiness. - Preserve warm run registration, restart guards, checkpoint hooks, and cleanup ownership. - Add 13 focused driver tests and document the lifecycle boundary. ## Verification - Targeted server execution and recovery tests: 728 passed, 35 skipped. These cover `native-session-executor`, `native-ssh-command-runner`, the new driver, warm restart transitions, and Runner restart recovery. - Targeted setup and driver tests: 109 passed after the review fix. Twelve driver tests overlap with the preceding count. The added test verifies that failed CA staging cannot leave a PRP route behind. - Runner connectivity tests: 11 passed. - Runner package lifecycle tests: 287 passed across coding transport, Dot, restart continuation, and settlement. These exercised the compiled Rust Runner. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `git diff --check`: passed. Local secret-pattern scan: clear. - The PRP transport runtime and remote process launcher remain unchanged. A byte comparison against the base confirmed this. - CI passed on `b10789dfce30a837ce890f44e352064c7a74366f`: all 55 active checks are green, including the full test shards, Runner checks, browser tests, typecheck, build, and aggregate gate. Greptile scored this commit 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - An earlier broad local shard run was not green: 34,888 passed, 12 failed, and 4,125 skipped. Failures were ten timeouts and two Git fixture assertions affected by local `init.defaultBranch=main`. Isolated retry passed all six non-route timeout suites (427 tests), two route suites, and both Git assertions with a test-process-only `init.defaultBranch=master`. The agent live-run route retry still timed out. No unrelated source changes were made. Further broad local runs were stopped at the user's request. Targeted commands: ```sh cd server node ../node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run src/services/native-runtime/native-session-executor.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-ssh-command-runner.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-runner-execution-driver.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-warm-transition-restart.integration.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-runner-restart-recovery.integration.test.ts --config vitest.config.ts node ../node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run src/services/native-runtime/setup-readiness.test.ts src/services/native-runtime/native-runner-execution-driver.test.ts --config vitest.config.ts cd ../packages/paperclip-runner node ../../node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run src/live/runnerd-codex-transport.test.ts src/drivers/dot/runnerd-dot-driver.test.ts src/live/runnerd-restart-continuation.test.ts src/live/runnerd-codex-transport-settlement.test.ts --maxWorkers=2 cd ../.. node node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run packages/adapter-utils/src/runner-connectivity.test.ts ``` ## Risks - Startup ordering and connection cleanup are sensitive. Focused tests cover local registration, outbound validation, CA mapping, ingress ordering, release, and warm authority guards. - No live SSH host or sandbox provider was used. Existing mocked remote tests and real local Runner tests passed. - No database, PRP wire protocol, or Launcher API changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with tool use and code execution. The served model variant and context window were not exposed to this task. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the stated targeted tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(grok): verify file completion and recover failed sessions (#16305)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work and authority for AI agents. > - Grok Bot runs outside Paperclip and uses authenticated upload grants for files. > - Native completion requires a verified file publication receipt. > - The upload saved the file but did not create that receipt. Real Grok work could not finish. > - A failed run also left an assignment that the Stop action could not fence. > - This pull request connects verified uploads to normal completion and repairs that recovery action. > - The result preserves file integrity and current work-session authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16219, #16274. **What happened?** A real Grok Bot saved a task document and CSV. Semantic completion rejected the CSV because its upload had no verified publication receipt. After the managed run failed, Stop rejected its remaining assignment as a changed session. The driver also discarded the remote monitor's known failure reason. **Expected behavior** An authenticated upload of the exact requested bytes can satisfy normal completion. Stop can fence the remaining assignment of the selected failed run. An old Stop action cannot stop newer work. Known remote lease and reconnect errors remain visible without raw diagnostics or credentials. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Connect an experimental Grok Bot agent and verify its routine. 2. Assign a task that requires a document and a file. 3. Upload the file through its accepted assignment and cite the attachment in semantic completion. 4. Observe the missing publication receipt error on the previous implementation. 5. For recovery, select Stop after that run fails but its assignment remains active. **Paperclip version or commit** The live defects were observed after #16274. The current candidate merges master `739f9e40a4` and is `26c5b9601d1cb2b8f5bb7fcf730f019523763f5b`. ## What Changed - Record a server-owned publication receipt in the verified upload transaction. Bind it to the real native Grok run and exact stored file metadata. - Validate external publication against the actual upload and admitted assignment. Keep existing native and person upload rules. - Recover the committed receipt after a lost response. Reverify the same bytes when an older upload lacks proof. - Hold assignment authority through publication with grant-before-assignment and task-before-run lock order. Disconnect does not wait for remote file storage. - Allow Stop to fence the exact lingering assignment of a terminal run. Reject stale Stop calls for successor work. - Preserve only known lease/reconnect failure codes from the remote monitor. Do not expose raw stderr. - Extend real Rust, overlapping document/upload and disconnect/upload, file retry, completion and Stop regressions. Document setup, files and recovery. ## Verification - The real Rust Grok regression requests a file, checks an overlapping native document save, concurrent retries and lost-response recovery, rejects missing delivery evidence, then uses normal semantic completion and finalization. - Focused tests cover person MCP, native file handoff, completion, Stop and both external driver providers. - Local repository typecheck and production build pass on the current candidate. The five focused protocol suites pass (264 tests); all 17 external Runner driver tests pass, with the driver unchanged since the master merge. - Token gates and Storybook build pass. Nine existing Grok fixture journeys pass their browser interaction assertions; the static probe separately records five fixture API routes returning 404. This is UI fixture evidence only. - Full repository coverage passed in CI. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was interrupted after CI completed; its partial log is retained and is not reported as a local full-suite pass. The earlier aggregate invocation was interrupted for the second review fix. - All CI gates pass on `26c5b9601d1cb2b8f5bb7fcf730f019523763f5b`: 55 successful checks and two skipped Storybook jobs (no UI diff). This includes the complete sharded repository suites, native Runner, release checks, build and security scans. - Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved findings. The PR has no merge conflicts. - The prior live attempt is failed acceptance evidence. Real Grok requalification, proactive work, controller restart and active-session Stop remain release gates. This PR does not claim those passed. ## Risks - Upload and completion now share a durable run receipt. Lock order and current assignment authority must remain consistent with native mutations. - Publication fails closed if the file, run or grant changes. A retry must keep the same upload identity and bytes. - Person connections gain no agent authority. No database migration is required. - Known exit diagnostics do not prove global Grok termination. Grok spending remains unreported. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution and computer use. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sentry): add opt-in run failure reporting with saved run references (#16300)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent runs retain execution results and output in the instance. > - Operators can report run failures to Sentry for investigation. > - A backend Sentry DSN currently enables those reports with no separate choice. > - A repair bot also needs the exact instance, company, agent, and saved run. > - This pull request adds an explicit reporting mode and authenticated run references. > - The benefit is that operators can investigate every failure on selected deployments while keeping other deployments quiet. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Optional server reporting of terminal agent run failures to Sentry. **Current behavior** A backend DSN enables run failure reports. Known account, quota, and connection failures are excluded. Reports omit company and agent references. Runs without a task are skipped. Tool-name collision errors omit the conflicting bindings. **Proposed behavior** Set `PAPERCLIP_SENTRY_RUN_FAILURES=unexpected` to retain the existing filters. Set it to `all` to report every failed or timed-out run, including known setup and quota failures. The default is `off`. Expected stops stay excluded. Each report supplies identifiers and API paths that a bot can use with its own authorized Paperclip connection. **Reason and benefit** Operators can enable broad failure reporting on one staging deployment. A bot can fetch the saved run, events, and logs instead of relying on a short error label or copying complete transcripts into Sentry. **Breaking changes** A backend DSN alone no longer enables run failure reports. Existing operators must set `PAPERCLIP_SENTRY_RUN_FAILURES=unexpected` to retain the previous policy. Ordinary server exception capture remains enabled by the DSN. Failure grouping gains the phase and original cause code when available. Refs #16281, #16297, #16298. These cover related tool discovery and failure diagnostics. This change retains their existing boundaries and does not depend on their open changes. ## What Changed - Add `off`, `unexpected`, and `all` modes. Missing and invalid values keep reporting off before diagnostic reads. - Keep the Sentry backend DSN and audited optional SDK requirements. - Include company, agent, run, and optional task identifiers. Include versioned paths for the saved run, events, log, and task. Add absolute run URLs only for a valid public HTTP(S) origin. - Report company runs without a task. Prefer the first-class issue binding when selecting the task reference. - Select saved native provider/model settings, timestamps, and original failure codes. Preserve gateway reason codes through redacted exception projection. - Group by error code, adapter, and available phase/cause. Keep run IDs and error text out of grouping. - Include the tool names and connection bindings in collision errors without copying tool schemas or provider metadata. - Document configuration, upgrade behavior, bot access, redaction, retention, and best-effort delivery. ## Verification - All 56 checks passed for `cccb47a721eaa1cc36e63278fc177b9101477541`. Two unrelated Storybook jobs were skipped by their path filters. No checks remain pending. - Complete [Paperclip CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38591422284): passed. This covers general and serialized tests, Runner checks, browser E2E shards, typecheck, build, release-registry checks, canary dry run, and Docker checks. - Greptile reviewed that exact head: 5/5, with no unresolved threads or actionable findings. Superagent, Socket, and Snyk checks passed. - Local focused reporting, diagnostics, collision, and real SDK contract tests: 410 passed across five suites. This includes the external-wake filter in both reporting modes. - The audited `@sentry/node@10.71.0` tests use an in-memory transport. No events were sent to Sentry. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: passed locally after the final rebase. - `node scripts/check-module-boundaries.mjs` and `git diff --check`: passed. - The full local `pnpm test:run` command was stopped to avoid duplicating the complete CI shards. It did not finish locally. The full suite passed in CI. ## Risks - The new default disables existing run failure exports until the operator selects a mode. The upgrade setting is documented. - `all` can increase event volume and include known user-action failures. Secret redaction and diagnostic limits still apply. - Reporting remains asynchronous and best effort. This PR adds no durable delivery queue and does not install a bot or Sentry alert rule. - API references grant no authority. Existing company, private-task, and run-output checks still apply. Complete transcripts stay in Paperclip. - This changes optional Sentry error reporting. It changes neither first-party Telemetry nor OpenTelemetry span exports. It adds no database migration. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, shell, file editing, and test execution. The exact backend deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(native-runtime): report which close barrier failed (#16298)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native agent runs use the Paperclip runner. When a run ends, the controller closes the session. Close must prove that the runner durably suspended before the controller releases its checkpoint. > - If close cannot prove this, the run fails with `provider_transport_failed: runner did not durably suspend before checkpoint`. > - The runner knows which barrier was not proven. It writes that settlement only to the instance run log. > - The Sentry report for the failed run has no settlement evidence. Operators cannot tell a stuck suspend command from an undrained provider, an unreadable provider state, or unsettled tool results. > - This pull request sends that settlement to the run failure report as closed labels and counts. > - The benefit is that the next occurrence shows which barrier failed, so the root cause can be fixed instead of guessed. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. This describes the bug. **What happened?** Hosted staging native Codex runs failed with `provider_transport_failed: runner did not durably suspend before checkpoint`. This happened on two runs, on 2026-09-30 and 2026-10-14. The second run used a release from 2026-10-14. The Sentry events contain only the error code, run phase, driver kind, and duration. They contain no stack and no settlement data. The native executor calls `reportRunFailure(db, run)` without the caught error, and the runner settlement is never read. **Expected behavior** A failed close report should tell an operator which barrier was not proven: runner suspension, provider drain, provider state, or semantic tool settlement. It must not expose tool identities, digests, provider turn IDs, or unredacted error text. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a native Codex session whose close cannot prove durable runner suspension. For example, the runner suspend command does not complete before the close deadline. 2. Observe the Sentry run failure event. Before this change, `run_execution` has no close settlement fields. ## What Changed - `collectRunFailureDiagnostics` accepts a new `nativeCloseFailure` option. It reads only a `native_session_close_unrecoverable` error, directly or up to four `cause` levels deep. - It adds closed labels and counts to `run_execution`: `closeRunnerSuspended`, `closeProviderDrained`, `closeSuspendCommandStatus`, `closeRunnerLifecycle`, `closeRunnerIdentityMatches`, `closeProviderState`, `closeProviderPendingEventCount`, `closeProviderTurnActive`, `closeSemanticResultPersistenceFailed`, `closeSemanticToolsPending`, `closeSemanticToolDeliveriesOpen`, and `closeSemanticResultFailures`. - Values outside the known vocabularies are dropped. Getters that throw are contained. - The native session executor passes the caught error as `nativeCloseFailure` when it reports a terminal run failure. It does not pass the error as `error`, because the raw error text and stack bypass the executor's identity redaction. - `doc/observability.md` documents the new fields and the privacy boundary. ## Verification - `cd server && npx vitest run src/services/__tests__/run-failure-diagnostics.test.ts src/__tests__/run-failure-sentry.test.ts`: 130 tests pass. - New tests check the full label set, a wrapped cause, null suspension and provider states, unrelated error codes, hostile and unknown values, and a missing settlement. They also check that no tool identity, digest, turn ID, or error text leaves the module. - Negative control: with the reader disabled, the new main test fails. - A scoped `tsc` run on `run-failure-diagnostics.ts`, its test, and `run-failure-report.ts` passes. The full server `tsc` and `pnpm build` were not run locally. The sandbox has a 4 GiB memory limit and no `cargo` for the runner binary. CI runs the full checks. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only adds Sentry context fields for one error code. Close, quarantine, retry, and recovery behavior do not change. - Sentry grouping does not change. The fingerprint stays `[errorCode, agentAdapter]`, and no exception chain is added. - The data path is Observability (Sentry error reporting, gated by the operator DSN). It does not change Telemetry. The fields contain only booleans, fixed labels, and counts. The DSN gate is unchanged. - These fields are observations. They do not prove a root cause by themselves. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(mcp): deduplicate discovered tool descriptors (#16281)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents receive governed app tools through the MCP gateway. > - GitHub review tasks can contain a PR discussion and inline finding threads. > - Discovery repeated each tool for every conversation linked to the task. > - Native tool registration treated these repeated descriptors as a fatal collision. > - This pull request lists GitHub tools once and deduplicates identical descriptors across providers. > - Agents can continue work while conflicting definitions and normal tool permissions remain enforced. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A follow-up run on a GitHub review task failed with `assigned_mcp_tool_name_collision` before the provider started. The task had a main conversation and an inline finding thread. Discovery returned the same seven tools twice. Repeated descriptors from other providers could cause the same failure. **Expected behavior** Discovery exposes each identical tool once. Separate connection names remain separate tools. Conflicting definitions remain an error. Every call still passes the gateway's policy, approval, revocation, and audit checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a GitHub review and publish an inline finding. 2. Send a follow-up request on the same PR task. 3. Inspect the task-bound bot catalog and the next native startup. 4. Separately, return two identical descriptors from an assigned app or plugin catalog. Related: #13717 added the GitHub review workflow. ## What Changed - Use a distinct GitHub discovery query across conversations that share an endpoint and task. Keep both thread mappings. - Deduplicate identical gateway descriptors by their full gateway name across providers. Use this rule for MCP listings, plugin listings, assigned-tool startup, and fresh assigned-tool discovery. - Reject conflicting descriptors with `tool_name_collision`. Keep the projected-name collision guard. - Cover GitHub inline-thread discovery, repeated plugin/app tools, direct and on-demand catalogs, revocation, conflicting bindings, and separate connection names. - Update the execution contract, GitHub documentation, and agent access map. ## Verification - Regression baseline: six new assertions failed on the original implementation. GitHub returned fourteen entries, plugin discovery repeated a tool, and native startup failed on repeated app tools. - Focused verification passed: 272 GitHub cases, all 29 assigned-tool cases, and all 88 gateway acceptance cases. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` passed. - Current-head CI passed: 55 checks passed, two inapplicable checks skipped. Greptile scored the current head 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - Full local `pnpm test:run` encountered a 15-second timeout in the existing bearer-auth throttling test, before tool discovery. That test passed in the separate 88-case gateway run and on one isolated rerun. The duplicate broad local run was then stopped; the complete current-head CI matrix passed. ## Risks - Deduplication keeps the first identical descriptor and preserves listing order. Same-name descriptors with different definitions fail with HTTP 409 rather than selecting an ambiguous binding. - The GitHub query changes result cardinality. It retains the existing task/company/agent filters and leaves conversation rows intact. - No schema migration or credential change. Live staging recovery requires deployment and a new authorized run. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code inspection, editing, browser investigation, and test execution. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(github): preserve review delivery through reconnect (#16259)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - GitHub review bots turn authorized repository events into agent tasks and publish the result on the pull request. > - Cloud Apps send callbacks through a relay, but the direct callback recovery worker reported that URL as broken. > - Reconnecting the same App then prevented a new authorized publication from updating its existing working comment. > - Report-only runs could also produce an action-required check when no complete assessment was available. > - This pull request preserves comment identity across reconnects, verifies fresh signed delivery after repair, and keeps report-only results neutral. > - Users can receive the review without changing repository access or making an advisory bot block their pull request. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A review could be saved in Paperclip while GitHub kept showing “Working on this…”. A same-App reconnect changed the runtime generation and the existing response receipt then failed with “GitHub response binding changed”. Cloud callback recovery also compared the relay URL with a direct tenant URL. An incomplete or failed report-only run could produce an action-required check. **Expected behavior** A fresh authorized attempt updates the same App-owned comment after reconnect. Stale attempts and revoked people remain denied. Cloud relay delivery does not produce a direct-callback mismatch. Report-only checks remain neutral and explain incomplete work honestly. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Accept a GitHub request and publish its working comment. 2. Reconnect the same App before the agent publishes its result. 3. Submit the result and inspect the working comment and check. 4. Separately, let a report-only run end without an assessment and inspect its check conclusion. Related: #16138 addresses the separate classification of local authorization errors as provider credential failures. This change fixes the response binding and report-only paths themselves. ## What Changed - Bind durable response comments to the App and agent. Keep per-attempt runtime generation checks and provider comment ownership checks, including legacy receipts. - Exclude Cloud-managed Apps from the direct webhook recovery scan and its stale callback-mismatch warning. The Cloud inbox owns relay retries. - Let a fresh authenticated event from the bound installation verify webhook delivery after repair. Keep signature, runtime epoch, installation, and credential lease checks. - Keep report-only assessment and terminal-run checks neutral. Preserve incomplete/error text and gated-review behavior. - Add integration regressions for reconnect races, legacy comments, failed runs, Cloud recovery, and foreign or forged webhook traffic. Update connector documentation. - Correct the assigned-tool search guidance to name the actual input fields (`offset` and `schemaOffset`) and show valid arguments. The failed automatic review had an input-schema rejection before tool execution; this clarifies recovery without expanding tool access. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - GitHub policy and integration suite: 291 tests passed (`vitest run server/src/services/chat-github-review-policy.test.ts server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts -t 'GitHub|github'`). - The report-only policy regression failed before the fix and passed after it. - `pnpm build` passed. - Assigned tool discovery: 24 tests passed. Its guidance now maps returned pagination offsets to the correct input fields and tells the model to omit unused optional fields. - Full `pnpm test:run` is running. It encountered a 15-second timeout in the unrelated authenticated Workspace calendar-write test. That test passed on one isolated rerun. - After the review-requested module extraction, server typecheck and both direct/Cloud recovery activity integration checks passed. - All 55 non-skipped CI checks passed for `32e690279d847e44a6946b6c7cfb110fb11aff79`. Greptile scored that commit 5/5 with no unresolved findings. Live staging publication verification follows deployment. ## Risks - A durable response can now survive a same-App reconnect. Fresh authorization, runtime generation checks for each publication attempt, App ownership, and the publication lease still fence writes. - Report-only failures intentionally become neutral. The check still reports the failure; it does not claim a complete assessment. - Cloud-managed callbacks rely on their existing durable relay inbox. The direct callback recovery worker remains unchanged for direct installations. - No schema migration or permission expansion. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with code inspection, editing, test execution, and browser verification. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover saved workspace results automatically (#15824)
## Thinking Path - Paperclip preserves accepted agent results before workspace copyback and result commitment. - A replaced controller can leave a physical copyback owner receipt behind. A lost database lock or expired lease cannot prove that its tar/Git children stopped. - Infrastructure recovery should belong to the runtime and deployment harness; task users should not investigate processes or attest shutdown. - New receipts record the exact deployment. The harness independently verifies that deployment fully stopped and signs a short-lived proof bound to the stack, run, owner and deployment. - The existing guarded reconciler then finishes the same accepted result without a new agent turn. Legacy receipts retain the documented administrator API after independent platform verification. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An accepted native result can remain at `workspace_finalizing` with an abandoned physical copyback owner. Repeated recovery sweeps could replace specific instructions with advice to start new agent work. The first version of this PR exposed a shutdown-evidence form in the task; that asks end users to resolve infrastructure details. **Expected behavior** Automatically verify and recover the exact stopped deployment, preserve the original accepted result and existing approval/monitor waits, and show only a quiet task status. Unknown or live workers must remain fenced. Older receipts without platform identity need independently verified operator assistance through the administrator API. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Persist an accepted native result and a copyback receipt from a prior controller. 2. Replace that deployment before workspace finalization commits. 3. Let the normal finalization reconciler revisit the saved result. 4. With a platform-bound receipt and a fully stopped deployment, recovery should finish automatically. With missing, live, unverifiable or changed ownership, it must not write files or create another provider turn. Related public work: #14402 introduced copyback ownership; #9687 handles dead-run finalize barriers; #15795 handles terminal stale-run cleanup. This change addresses an accepted result whose physical copyback owner prevents commitment. ## What Changed - Record Railway project, environment, service and deployment identity on new physical copyback owners. - Request read-only platform verification from the managed cloud harness. Require an Ed25519 stop receipt with a disjoint purpose, configured signing key, exact stack/run/owner/deployment binding and valid expiry. - Keep live, unknown, malformed, unavailable and legacy owners fenced. Compare the whole prior receipt during ownership takeover, under the existing dedicated advisory lock. - Persist platform proof and audit automatic takeover. Resume normal finalization of the same saved result, preserving task ownership, approved boundaries, monitors and pending confirmations. - Remove process metadata, shutdown evidence, confirmation checkboxes and infrastructure-repair forms from task views. Suppress the duplicate technical owner-recovery card. Show “Restoring saved work…” only from server-confirmed recovery or queued operator recovery; platform identity alone shows the operator-assistance fallback. Remove the status when recovery resolves. - Share current-task, current-running-execution, accepted-result, authoritative-reviewer and newer-execution checks between automatic and operator recovery. Validate after the provider lookup, atomically with the owner claim, and again before file publication; closed or superseded tasks cannot start copyback. - Keep the separately authorized exact-owner API for operator recovery of legacy receipts, with active-lock, live-controller, stale-result and newer-execution rejection. Generic dismissal cannot bypass the copyback fence. - Replace obsolete form stories with production-backed automatic, queued, legacy, completed and mobile examples; retain stable suite IDs. Update the operator runbook and scoped Storybook catalog. ## Verification - Red/green: new platform-proof tests failed before implementation; the database takeover regression failed against the original ownership guard; reduced-UI assertions failed against the original form. All pass after the changes. - Passed: 59 physical-owner/finalization database tests using isolated PostgreSQL, including real reconciler commitment from all three saved-result phases through both automatic and operator recovery. They preserve result identity, exact saved file bytes, pending approval and overdue monitor waits, and create no new run or wake request. Unknown evidence and changed ownership remain fenced. - Passed: 162 focused proof, cloud identity, recovery route, recovery-card and reduced-UI tests. - Passed: full workspace typecheck and build, final server/UI typechecks, token gates, and Storybook build. - Browser inspection: desktop task composition shows only the quiet status; completed example removes it and retains the approval-wait message. Mobile shows the existing bottom navigation with no horizontal overflow. These are fixture UI observations, not live provider acceptance. - A companion harness change implements the actual provider check, signed receipts, server-token authentication and bounded/coalesced provider reads. Its full typecheck and test suite passed: 3,240 passed, 92 skipped, zero failures. This application alone cannot enable platform verification. - The updated full application `pnpm test:run` was stopped after repeated local embedded-Postgres startup failures; it is not claimed green. The same affected recovery suites pass against isolated PostgreSQL. CI passed on final head `9ad5c3529e`: 54 successful checks, two intentional skips, and successful legacy Snyk status. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Global Storybook catalog validation is green: 225 files, 2,224 stories. Its 17 catalog/index tests pass. Master was merged and the inherited index metadata was reconciled after source review. - Review correction red/green: two UI and two database assertions reproduced misleading progress / missing server recovery state; all pass after server-confirmed state was added. All 153 focused server tests and 68 UI tests pass on the final recovery code, including repeated-sweep idempotence. Full workspace typecheck/build, token gates and Storybook build also pass. - Safety regression red/green: stale-task copyback and publication tests failed against the previous guard. The final suite covers changes during proof lookup, closed/cancelled tasks, replaced execution/checkout, newer and queued legacy runs, reassignment and rejected/unbound results, plus the real reconciler selecting closed or superseded tasks. Files remain untouched and no workspace operation starts. - No staging mutations, deployment, live provider probes or live production recovery were performed. The three historical receipts lack deployment identity and still require independent operator proof. ## Risks Automatic takeover requires the companion harness release and configured runtime-identity keys. Deploying only this application leaves unavailable evidence fenced. Legacy receipts are not retrospectively assigned a deployment identity. An authorized operator can still make an incorrect attestation through the fallback API; its administrator gate and exact-owner safeguards remain. Provider history that is missing or deeper than the bounded lookup defers automatic recovery. Copyback can still fail under its existing retained-workspace policy. No migration, telemetry change or cloud provider credential delivery is required. The companion harness PR also has passing CI and a 5/5 review; neither branch is deployed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with repository inspection, browser verification, tool use and code execution. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <paperclip@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Devin Foley <devin@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): qualify Codex platform packages and cache hosted builds (#16028)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native execution needs a compatible installed daemon and provider dependency. > - The Codex-default work found missing platform packages and clean-install startup failures. > - Release builds also repeat dependency compilation and run preparation serially. > - This prerequisite packages four daemon targets and verifies installed native startup. > - It also caches hosted Cargo dependencies and overlaps JavaScript preparation with compilation. > - Agent creation defaults and experimental gates stay at the current master behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. Refs #15555. Refs #15422. Refs #15926. Refs #15932. Extract runtime and installation support from #15683. This prerequisite has 65 changed files. Creation, onboarding, imports, UI runner selection and graduation remain in the dependent PR. Feature/access maps and the Storybook source catalog stay synchronized. Existing agents keep their execution choices. ## What Changed - Correct the existing runner test fixtures. Reserve owned credential quorum listeners through the existing bounded fixture helper. Keep foreign listeners intact, run actual credential staging once, and preserve its rejection and unchanged-auth assertions. Reuse the durable-resume outer-limit correction. Wait for actual warm-completion and held-authorization callback entry under the existing recovery deadline and surface early request errors. Preserve every semantic assertion. - Retain bounded installation failure diagnostics through the existing qualification receipt upload. Keep the original error, 10-minute deadline and all success checks. - Keep startup ownership until credential preparation and registration drain. Reject duplicate and post-close startup/resume work. Observe shutdown during normal and adopted authentication readiness. Preserve the primary failure and retain private state when cleanup is unconfirmed. - Package Linux x64/ARM64 and macOS Apple Silicon/Intel daemons. Verify target headers, source identities, manifests, and hashes before assembly and installation. - Reuse the existing release producer/consumer workflows. Cache Cargo dependencies by target, OS, compiler, lockfile, and contract inputs. Rebuild workspace binaries. Permit trusted cache writes only for canonical exact-source master pushes. - Overlap JavaScript preparation with native compilation. Join both commands and failure/cancellation cleanup before artifact verification. - Preserve shell positional arguments in the shared SSH runner and apply environment assignments correctly. Reject environment option keys. Six before/after controls and two real SSH subprocess paths pass with zero provider calls; this fix lands before both Codex and Claude defaults. - Admit verified suspended SSH backups during cold controller continuation, using the same full-scope, integrity and lifecycle checks as sandbox targets. Two positive SSH cases fail before; all 14 positive/negative matrix cases pass afterward. Active ownership and corrupt/malformed/nonempty state remain rejected. - Record measured sandbox platform facts through the existing explicit environment probe. Bind facts to the company, effective provider configuration, immutable OCI image and actual captured image binding. Check the returned cleanup receipt. Reject client-authored proof and stale or named boot identities. Creation and discovery allocate nothing. Preserve connection-only behavior. - Resolve the actual remote Codex target and preserve same-host development overrides. Preserve runtime artifact verification. Use actual protocol/model compatibility rather than a numerical CLI version fence. - Resolve the installed Codex login dependency on 64-bit Linux and Mac independently of the daemon libc baseline. Preserve account homes and safe errors. - Fix actual clean-install TOML table comparison. Preserve strict semantic checks, comments, private writes, and malformed-input rejection. Preserve primary startup failures and bounded cleanup. - Document GNU libc 2.39+ and stock Ubuntu sandbox prerequisites. Qualify ARM startup with a scoped distribution profile and unchanged global restrictions. Preserve Windows and Alpine deferral. - Preserve selected and saved native Codex reasoning effort in the existing UI builder, while excluding it from other providers. This small shared correction prevents import edits higher in the stack from dropping effort. - Reuse existing installed-package checks and assertions. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex native payloads. Official npm dependencies supply the consumer's Codex binaries. All Docker and native builds stay remote. ## Verification Candidate: `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It includes current master `e168512f7bdbb6af6ea01954c6d7ed80b91e903e` and preserves prior candidates through ordinary commits. Current [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601686) is successful on attempt 2. GitHub reports 54 successful checks and four conditional skips, including required verify and browser aggregates, workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, both runner shards and [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601609). Fresh current-head Greptile is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. The passing build's clean Grok/Codex report records CI merge source `7a82a37438e6e448abc7cc5caa60dc2519a97be0`, 18 installed packages, omitted Codex payloads, official host-only npm dependencies and zero provider calls. Pi setup and its no-prompt lease verification also pass. The first attempt's single 60-second Node archive download timeout remains retained; its DNS/TLS/download cause remains unknown. One unchanged-source retry was requested through the normal Build-job dialog with debug logging disabled. GitHub's attempt 2 graph reports the other CI jobs as well; no second retry or source/deadline relaxation was made. The [final exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38347027535) is successful on literal `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly and clean installed consumers on Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64. The nine qualification-mode skips are intentional; full CI above covers their ordinary gates. Native builds and Docker assembly ran remotely. The predecessor [`dae808` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38342104102) remains literal historical evidence. Only tests and the dated record differ from that source; runtime, package and workflow code is unchanged. The reused credential fixture correction passes all 42 canonical Node 24 controls with synthetic data and independent matching-source review, and the current hosted runner shard passes. Production credential behavior is unchanged. **Merge hold:** current-source CI, fresh 5/5 review and exact-source package qualification pass. Actual code-owner approval and normal protected merge remain pending. No slice has merged or deployed. GitHub CLI authentication needs refresh; the normal signed-in embedded GitHub UI provided this status without credential workarounds. - The master merge preserves both Storybook source-review appendices and the guarded test-home cleanup. All six existing cleanup controls pass without skips. Master's isolated-home helper/test/setup are byte-identical. The two existing whitespace lines in master's unrelated privacy test remain outside this PR's diff. - Canonical Node 24 passes all 24 existing public-install helper tests. Three narrow added cases prove bounded/redacted failure metadata, symlink exclusions, original exception identity, failed diagnostic writes and no false failure on success. The Mac installer now uses `--timing`; at most two 16 KiB tails and 32 structured entries per tail enter the existing receipt upload. Raw argv, URLs, environment, error text and stacks are omitted. A failed receipt explicitly remains FAILED/unqualified/runtime-not-attempted. The 600,000 ms install deadline and every real package/hash/payload/lock/lifecycle/runtime oracle are unchanged. - Canonical Node 24 reproduces the durable-resume outer timeout under controlled fake latency. Only its outer test limit changes to 15 seconds; internal 500 ms/5 second deadlines and usage/effect assertions remain. Controlled warm-recovery and before-bootstrap authorization scheduling delays reproduce their callback polling failures, while the explicit entry signals pass. Early recovery errors surface unchanged. Independent review is clear. Historical mock binaries support the fixture controls; fresh full hosted CI remains decisive. The original hosted callback failure cause is inconclusive. - The composed runner/surfaces/server/E2E TypeScript checks pass. Map checks pass 35 areas/171 capability IDs. Token gates pass. The existing Storybook catalog passes 223 files/2,210 stories; story IDs and classifications remain intact. The current master had 25 inherited stale fingerprints from three changed map recipes. Only those guarded fingerprints and a source-only review note change; all 92 non-map story/component/fixture inputs remain unchanged. Existing classifications are retained. This proves source structure, not visual or live acceptance. - The 65-file contribution audit has no code file crossing from below 1,000 lines to above the limit. Earlier comment cleanup preserves executable emissions, parsed workflows and action pins. Independent cleanup/catalog and three-file reporting reviews are clear. No new workflow, suite, grader or local native/Docker build was added. **Prior `dae808` gate evidence:** fresh Greptile is 5/5 with four resolved threads, isolated native compilation and the browser aggregate pass. Its first runner shard passes the previous two corrections but fails a different held-authorization cell at the implicit one-second polling deadline. It records 1,672 passes/one failure/three skips. This candidate applies the verified entry-signal correction without changing production deadlines or any semantic assertions. Its original hosted cause remains inconclusive until fresh CI. **Previous-source evidence, kept literal:** the [exact `16a532` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38338806076) passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly, Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. Its fresh review is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. Full CI records 52 successful checks, four conditional skips and the two fixture failures corrected here. This is not a green full-CI candidate or proof for the new source. `64c074fb8da1b31f8d6042c4fef48dc4164e759b` passed [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726938), 54 checks/four conditional skips, [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726787/job/115085895328), and fresh Greptile 5/5/all four resolved threads. The hosted transport suite passed 246 tests and startup trust passed 22, closing that source's local fake-binary limitation. These are historical after reconciliation. The [previous exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332921463) built all four platform daemons and passed public Linux package assembly plus Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. **Intel Mac failed:** its initial scripts-disabled npm install timed out before lifecycle/runtime assertions. The underlying download/resolution/host cause is unknown because the old helper deleted the npm logs. This is the concrete baseline for the diagnostic change. The failed campaign remains failed; no all-platform signoff or automatic retry is claimed. The earlier `a200495` [four-target campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38283695248) and [scoped ARM qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38291535914) remain component evidence. Cargo restores were cold misses; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads. Official npm dependencies supply Codex on the user's platform. Current-source full workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, static/Rust/native tests, all browser shards and exact-source package consumers must pass. New-agent defaults and final managed onboarding belong to #15683. Actual private Cloud composition, warm/cold signup, task/follow-up and rollback compatibility remain later release gates. Source audits found that ordinary managed onboarding does not run the saved platform probe and Cloud distributes named snapshots without a verified final boot-image binding. These dependent release blockers remain open; prequalified E2E fixtures do not close them. Master adds task-workspace migrations; the final image/migrator and previous-image checks must include them. ARM paid task/follow-up and ordinary OS APT installation are not proven. ## Risks - Multi-target packages require source and header agreement. Missing or mismatched artifacts fail explicitly. Existing execution choices remain unchanged. - Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+ and compatible sandbox prerequisites. The scoped hosted ARM preparation does not qualify arbitrary containers or kernels. Windows, 32-bit ARM, and Alpine remain deferred. - Only dependency crates are cached. Preview jobs cannot write trusted caches. Concurrent command cleanup must preserve the primary failure. - Native-free Paperclip packaging retains official Codex npm dependencies. No Codex payload bundling, schema migration, automatic agent migration, or production deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and parallel agents. The exact serving model snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): default human task replies to the latest assigning agent (#15594)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks let agents ask a person for input. > - The reply composer needs a useful default recipient. > - A recent comment does not identify the agent that assigned the task. > - The old fallback can select the person who is writing the reply. > - This change uses the latest agent assignment and keeps manual choices. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** When an agent assigns a task to a person, the reply composer can select that person or a different commenter. A data refresh can also replace a manual selection. **Expected behavior** For a task assigned to the current person, select the latest agent that assigned it to them. If no such assignment exists, use the latest other commenter. If neither exists, leave the recipient empty. Keep explicit choices during refreshes. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have agent Alpha assign a task to a person. 2. Assign it to agent Beta, then have Beta assign it to the same person. 3. Open the task as that person. 4. Check that the reply composer selects Beta. 5. Select another recipient. Refresh task data. Check that the selection stays. Related work: #15091 shares task composer controls. This change fixes recipient defaults. ## What Changed - Read real assignment changes from REST and native runner task activity, in time order. - Record human assignee fields in native create and reassign activity. - Ignore unchanged assignment fields and assignments to other people. - Use the assigning agent before comment hints for human-owned tasks. - Connect the suggestion to current and classic task composers and pipeline replies. - Keep manual selections when suggestions change. - Add regression tests and document the fallback. - Use tasks with no assignee in the attachment receipt tests. This keeps the tests on the comment route. Dismiss announcements through the real UI. - Record human and agent assignees in REST creation receipts. Include child creation in the assignment history resolver. ## Verification - Focused tests cover assignment order, creation, other recipients, unchanged fields, fallback, and manual selections. - Browser fixture uses the real composer and assignment resolver. It selects Beta and keeps a manual human selection after history refresh. - Passed: 223 focused tests across four suites. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`. - Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`. - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates`. - The initial CI run passed full build, typecheck, Rust, unit tests and seven E2E shards. The attachment shard exposed tests that relied on the old self-selection default. The tests now select the recipient explicitly. - Native assignment regression tests and resolver tests pass: 40 tests. - Attachment E2E suite: 10 passed; one page-load timing failure passed on an isolated rerun. All 11 cases passed across the suite and rerun. - Previous full CI passed at |

fix(inbox): keep automatic recovery cleanup out of personal participation (#16063)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The personal inbox uses issue activity to identify a person's participation. > - Issue reads can cancel stale recovery actions and record that cleanup as the reader's action. > - This adds unrelated tasks to the inbox and refreshes their activity timestamps. > - A workspace owner hold can also alternate between creation and cancellation after a task finishes. > - This pull request corrects cleanup attribution, excludes historical read cleanup, and retains one exact owner hold. > - Agents can read authorized issue activity to diagnose the same problem themselves. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15742 excludes logs by the execution-recovery actor from activity timestamps. This PR covers reader-attributed stale recovery cleanup, personal inbox participation, exact workspace owner holds, and sandbox issue activity access. I searched open issues and PRs for recovery inbox and activity bridge fixes. I found no duplicate for this defect. **What happened?** Loading issue lists cancels stale recovery actions under the reader's identity. The personal inbox treats those rows as user participation. One completed issue had hundreds of such rows and no edits or comments by the affected reader. A retained native workspace owner repeatedly creates a verification action that read projections then cancel. Sandbox agents cannot inspect the issue activity because the reverse bridge rejects the route. **Expected behavior** Automatic cleanup belongs to the system and does not add an issue to a reader's inbox. Historical cleanup rows remain auditable but do not count as participation or recent activity. An unresolved physical workspace owner keeps one stable verification action. Agents can inspect activity only for issues their identity may read. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Finish a task whose native run retains an unverifiable workspace owner receipt. 2. Repeat workspace recovery checks and GET requests for issue detail, compact lists, and recovery actions. 3. Observe new recovery action IDs and reader-attributed cancellations in the activity history. 4. Query the personal inbox for that reader and observe the unrelated task. 5. From a sandbox agent, request GET /api/issues/:id/activity and observe Route not allowed. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed at |

Stabilize task lifecycle browser fixtures (#15878)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and their tasks. > - Browser and runner tests check task recovery and user actions. > - Some fixtures act before a prior request or run has settled. > - Those races can report a product failure before the intended assertion runs. > - This PR binds each check to the exact request, run, or geometry snapshot it needs. > - The tests retain their existing budgets and negative assertions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #15813, #15804. The draft stack is master → [fixture prerequisite #15878](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15878) → [runtime prerequisite #15880](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15880) → [Boat core #15813](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15813) → [UI #15804](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15804). GitHub confirms 5, 63, 97, and 75 changed files respectively, each below the 100-file limit. Existing commits and PR URLs remain intact. [Historical evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/tree/5909bfac9fa41405beb3fe8a65253dc28ba52835/doc/plans/assets/2026-10-10-boat) remains pinned to its original commit; current proof files stay with the UI PR. This is the test-only prerequisite extracted from the experimental Boat work. It contains five existing test-file changes. It does not add the Boat adapter or change task admission. ## What Changed - Wait for the exact signoff fixture run and each replacement run to succeed before applying the next stage decision. - Wait for the inbox Retry response for the exact failed run before navigating away. - Compare task planning time with the first run that actually started, instead of assuming the first list item started. - Read the touch target, container, and scroll position in one browser evaluation. Keep strict containment and native gesture checks. - Bind the native recovery fixture to its disposable fake Codex executable so installed provider binaries cannot override it. ## Verification Draft branch: `codex/boat-fixture-prerequisite`, commit `e318850909c0777565b43644a4d8114c6006da60`. Base: master `e733bddc45e00efb1819fffa8677f7b0d07802c5`. Five changed files. The isolated fixture-plus-runtime stack passed 24 browser cases. Six legacy recovery cases could not reach their assertions because the fixture requires embedded PostgreSQL metadata. A normal embedded PostgreSQL attempt then failed during cluster setup on this host. These are not six passing cases. No test seam, timeout increase, or product-database fixture was used. The fixture-only commit has not yet had a separate complete local browser run. All six legacy cases subsequently passed on this exact fixture commit in PR CI browser shard 8 (20/20 total, job114470999277). The original local setup failures remain recorded. The full-stack typecheck/build results belong to the assembled fixture-plus-runtime tree and are not claimed as independent qualification of this smaller commit. Review the exact run/request filters and the unchanged rejection assertions. Run the four changed Playwright specs and the native-session-resume suite through the repository's normal fixture setup. At 13:03:24 UTC, this exact head had 53 successful checks and two skips, with no pending checks or failures. All eight browser shards passed. Greptile is 5/5 on the exact head with no unresolved threads. [Exact-head legacy browser proof](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/9eacca2c5321bb63f061eef4bb775b6951d5846d/doc/plans/assets/2026-10-10-boat/evidence/prerequisite-legacy-browser-ci-proof.json). Feature acceptance stays in the downstream report. Deployment29 verified `05f3725af838b5a074707df1d6ed1e193bdfe49e` at 12:23:23.944 UTC. Native Claude cold execution passed at 12:39:57.782 after 14m56s of first-use preparation. Warm continuation passed at 12:42:09.943 with the same owner, boot and session identities. Normal retirement and archive followed. The ordinary saved post-idle turn then failed: its primary attempt reported the closed `LINK_COUNT` module fence at `turn_ownership_verified` (3,711ms), and same-run recovery settled failed at 12:52:09 with identity/authority errors. Natural archive completed at 12:52:21. Numeric link counts and their direction are not yet proven. A narrower failure-only diagnostic and a bounded read-only probe are under review; neither establishes a fix for this live failure. Prior staging27/28 failures remain preserved. Local complete lifecycle passes and staging Codex/computer/HMR passes remain separate source-bound evidence. No session, quarantine, provider stop or migration history was reset. These live observations do not qualify this prerequisite by themselves. ## Risks - Waiting for the wrong run could hide a task race. The fixtures match task, agent, and replacement-run identity before proceeding. - A geometry helper could weaken touch coverage. This change preserves containment and gesture assertions and only makes their inputs one snapshot. - The six legacy browser cases passed in exact-head CI; their local PostgreSQL setup limitation remains recorded. No live Boat acceptance result follows from this test-only change. Documentation impact: no product command or behavior changes. This description records fixture scope and validation limits. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 family) assisted with code, test execution, and review. The host does not expose the exact primary model ID or context window. The work used tools for source inspection and local execution. Prior architecture work used `gpt-6-astra`; an independent design review used `gpt-6.1-sol`. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal issue id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): include Claude ACP in the server package (#15912)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server ships a copy of Paperclip Runner for native agent execution. > - The Claude ACP bridge is a runner dependency, but it was absent from the server package. > - The runner resolves this bridge dynamically, so the import-based packaging check missed it. > - A Claude session then failed before startup and showed a generic connection error. > - This pull request ships the qualified bridge and reports a missing runtime with repair steps. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A server install with the vendored runner could not load `@agentclientprotocol/claude-agent-acp/package.json`. The runtime test suggested checking the model or provider connection. The task reported an interrupted runner session. **Expected behavior** The server package includes its qualified Claude ACP runtime. A missing bundled runtime reports an installation error and explains how to repair it. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Use a server install with the vendored runner and no Claude ACP bridge. 2. Select the Paperclip Runner ACP harness and the Claude provider. 3. Run the runtime test or open a session. 4. Observe a missing-module failure before Claude starts. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `e733bddc45`. This branch is based on current master. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server built from source. Related: #15224 upgrades the Claude bridge. This PR fixes its omission from the server package and keeps the current qualified version. A future bridge upgrade must update the server pin too. ## What Changed - Add Claude ACP `0.73.0` to the server dependencies and bundled dependencies. - Pin the qualified Claude SDK and bridge dependencies in the npm bundle producer graph. Publish its native packages as consumer optional dependencies instead of shipping the producer executable. - Bind source-built vendored runners to the shared pnpm dependency store while retaining the server manifest as the provider authority. Keep published npm and self-rooted deployment roots unchanged. - Include dynamically resolved Claude and Codex bridges in the vendor dependency check. - Preserve the missing-package category through the sidecar, Rust transport, and native session executor. Stop automatic retries for this installation failure. - Show **Runtime missing** in the runtime test and task thread. Explain the reinstall or rebuild, server restart, and runtime test steps. - Add regression tests and document the repair procedure. ## Verification - Red/green comparison with the production sidecar: the same missing-package setup returns a raw require-stack error on the original code and an actionable, non-retryable missing-runtime error on this branch. - The rebuilt server's vendored Claude installation probe passes using the source-server authority selected by the launcher, without starting a provider or making a model request. - Focused server verification: 830 tests passed. Runner installation and sidecar error tests: 83 passed, with 6 platform-specific skips. Packaging tests: 28 passed. Rust transport tests: 7 passed. - Source/deployment authority tests: 3 passed. Red/green packaging tests include a Linux-produced Claude SDK bundle, actual npm pack, and closed executable admission on Linux x64 and macOS ARM64/x64. - Full UI suite: 8,113 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on the rebased branch. - Full current-head CI passed, including all general and serialized test lanes, Runner Rust/Vitest verification, typecheck, build, and all eight e2e shards. Greptile reviewed `d6a2741834ff922956560f2f689382827bbaf9e0` at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. - Local full-suite limitation: an earlier parallel attempt hit Postgres startup failures and timeouts; the affected server tests and a database fixture passed in isolation. The subsequent serial `pnpm test:run` was stopped while still running after complete CI passed. Focused local tests, full UI tests, typecheck, and build completed as listed above. - Token gates and `git diff --check` passed. ## Risks - Bundling the Claude bridge increases the server package size. The producer graph retains the qualified SDK version and existing isolation patch. Native platform declarations move to the published server manifest, while the runtime keeps its exact version, declared-slot, no-follow, and executable digest checks. - The new failure category is permanent. Operators must repair the server installation before they retry the task. - Existing failed runs retain their recorded error. The clearer message applies to new runtime tests and runs. - No database schema or migration changes. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The system reports the model family; the exact deployment ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, browser inspection, tool use, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(costs): preserve usage attribution and explain unavailable run costs (#15948)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The cost ledger records usage and controls agent budgets. > - Some runs lose the selected model or API billing category before their usage reaches the ledger. > - The dashboard reports missing costs but does not identify the affected runs or the available actions. > - This pull request preserves usage attribution and adds a compact view of cost gaps grouped by agent. > - Operators can inspect runs, open agent settings, and record saved costs without starting new agent work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15634, #11938, #15879. This follows the merged subscription reporting in #15634. The older proposal in #11938 addresses part of ACP model attribution. This change also rejects conflicting models across a turn, fixes credential-backed billing capture, and explains cost gaps in the existing dashboard. The Pi receipt recovery work in #15879 covers a separate adapter recovery path. This PR preserves unresolved receipts and does not recover provider usage or reprice past entries. **What happened?** ACP results use the requested model even when the runtime selects a model. Native and OpenCode API runs can report unknown billing despite a matching API credential. The dashboard shows notices without links to the affected runs. These gaps make API and subscription totals harder to interpret. **Expected behavior** Record the model selected by the runtime. Identify API billing only from a matching credential. Keep costs unresolved when reliable usage or pricing is absent. Show the affected agents and runs. Offer an accounting retry only when saved evidence is ready. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an ACP agent with its model left unset, or use a matching API credential with a native or OpenCode agent. 2. Inspect the recorded model and billing category for the run. 3. Open Costs Overview for a period with unpriced usage or terminal runs awaiting receipts. 4. Inspect the notice and try to find the affected run or the relevant agent settings. **Paperclip version or commit** Current master at `657e71584a0`. The patch is rebased on that commit. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server and local development. The cost detail tests use a disposable PostgreSQL database. ## What Changed - Preserve the runtime-selected ACP model in checkpoints and final results. Conflicting models across one turn remain unpriced. - Share credential-backed API billing checks across native and OpenCode results. Keep unknown billing when the provider and credential do not match. - Add company-scoped cost detail and accounting retry endpoints. Board viewers can read details but cannot retry. Agents and foreign companies are denied. - Limit each detail category to 25 entries. Use one consistent database snapshot and sparse indexes matching the filters and sort order. Add the unknown-billing count to the existing summary query. - Replace the notice with an expandable count line. Group entries alphabetically by agent. Show the saved blob icon, link each name to configuration, and put run and retry links beside the date. - Preserve estimate and unavailable-price labels on Providers and Billers; keep retry confirmation after the resolved notice disappears. - Fetch details only while expanded. Retain the last loaded details after a refresh error. Retry saved accounting only; do not rerun the agent. - Add capture, database, authorization, UI, and Storybook coverage. Update the implementation contract and cost reporting guide. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after rebase. - `pnpm build` and `pnpm build-storybook` passed after rebase. - `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check` passed. - 1,086 focused tests passed across 17 files. These cover ACP, native and OpenCode capture, PostgreSQL reports, route authorization, OpenAPI, Costs UI, and existing accounting regressions. - Desktop and mobile browser checks passed during UI review. They cover lazy expansion, alphabetical groups, loaded blob icons, configuration and run links, keyboard retry, and layout overflow. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted with command-scoped `init.defaultBranch=master` for Git fixtures. It was stopped after a native session recovery failure reproduced on unchanged base `657e71584a0` (`archives a damaged prior epoch before completing guarded same-task replacement with real runnerd`). An MCP upload case failed in the broad run but passed in isolation on both the base and PR branch. These local limitations do not affect the 1,086 passing focused tests. - Current-head CI is green, including all unit test lanes, serialized server suites, runner checks, typecheck, build, policy, and eight browser shards. Apex re-review is 5/5 on `56de60effdb`; all four original findings are addressed and every review thread is resolved. - PostgreSQL applies migration `0333` in the integration fixtures. EXPLAIN ANALYZE on the production detail statements uses the new sparse indexes behind 5,000 healthy records in each table. - Ten provider/biller card cases cover missing and estimated prices; the retry test covers row removal and notice unmount. A live Storybook browser check verifies the confirmation and updated count. - Run `pnpm storybook`. Open **Costs / Subscriptions / Cost Data Quality Details** to inspect the production page with representative fixtures. ## Risks - Model and billing metadata change for future runs. Estimates still require complete usage and a supported price. No past cost amount is rewritten. - A missing final receipt remains unresolved for budget checks. The display changes after fifteen minutes; that time limit never authorizes settlement. - Accounting retry is a write action. It retains the existing company checks, receipt fences, idempotency, and audit logging. - Detail reads are bounded and run only after expansion. They poll every 30 seconds while open. No provider probe or new summary query is added. - Migration `0333` adds two partial indexes; it changes no stored cost amounts or table columns. Index creation scans the existing tables and may briefly block writes during deployment. No lockfile or workflow change is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code editing, browser checks, and test execution. The exact serving model ID, reasoning setting, and context window were not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(connections): retire requests for already available tools (#15856)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connection cards let users provide the access an agent needs. > - Users can complete setup in Apps while an earlier card stays pending. > - A stale card can then cancel recovery despite valid existing access. > - This change verifies existing access and expires the obsolete request. > - It records a system outcome and sends one durable continuation. > - Approval, identity, permission, and workspace recovery gates remain in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** An ordinary tool connection request stayed pending after the addressed user connected the service in Apps. A later conversation retry was cancelled with `issue_waiting_for_response`. **Expected behavior** A request expires when the same user and requesting agent already have usable access. The agent gets a durable tool refresh. The system records no new human approval. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have an agent request a tool connection on an active task. 2. Connect the service through Apps with the addressed user's existing grant, agent install, and allowed tools. 3. Let a conversation run stop and retry. The pending card still blocks the retry on the base branch. Related: #12345 introduced the connection request flow. This fix uses its existing access checks and delivery queue. ## What Changed - Verify company, task ownership, user identity, membership, health, grants, installs, and task tool policy before expiring an ordinary request. - Preserve AI account, channel, additional permission, and upstream provider requests on their existing paths. - Save the system outcome, audit event, and continuation in one transaction. Notify an idle delivery worker when a request commits. - Recheck access and other questions or approvals before delivery, retry, final dispatch, and native projection. Refresh system observations for an authorized replacement account. - Rearm delivery when access changes before provider work starts. Verify the host's admission receipt against execution evidence before allowing retry without a repair incident. - Require the current delivery claim when marking an attempt complete. An old completion cannot overwrite a rearmed continuation. - Add embedded-Postgres regressions for permissions, policy, concurrency, restart, replacement accounts, both dispatch gates, and the delivery race. Keep genuine workspace repair holds blocking. ## Verification - Latest-head connection, wake-context, dispatch, and legacy recovery suites: 124 tests passed. The connection suite includes 44 real-Postgres cases. - Server typecheck passed. Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on the latest head. - `pnpm test:run` was run locally. Its general-server group passed 18,583 tests and failed 20. That long run started before the review fixes, then loaded new test cases against modules transformed before those fixes. The affected latest-head suites pass in a fresh process. - One full-run failure also reproduces on unchanged base commit |

feat: add company fast-response acknowledgements (#15748)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Human messages start agent work through task, chat, and external-channel intake. > - Agent startup can delay the first visible response. > - A small direct model call can acknowledge the request while normal work starts. > - This response must remain separate from evidence that the agent answered or completed work. > - This pull request adds optional company-wide fast responses with durable receipts, access checks, and cost accounting. > - Users receive prompt acknowledgement without changing the agent execution path. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: database, shared contracts, server orchestration, connections, and UI. **Problem or motivation** Users can wait for an agent to start before they receive a contextual response. Generic progress messages do not confirm what the user asked. An acknowledgement must not falsely complete work or satisfy an unanswered turn. **Proposed solution** Add a disabled-by-default experimental fast-response model using an existing shared API connection. Generate one short acknowledgement for each accepted human turn. Use the existing agent identity and external publication outboxes. Retain platform provenance and account for the inference independently. **Alternatives considered** Running the acknowledgement through the agent runtime adds startup latency. Restricting implementation to OpenRouter leaves other existing API connections unsupported. This change supports all existing API connections and uses OpenRouter for live verification. **Roadmap alignment** This extends existing agent communication and connection settings. ROADMAP.md and open pull requests were checked. No duplicate fast-response implementation was found. The maintainer supplied the feature plan directly. ## What Changed - Add Experimental fast responses to instance settings. Keep the feature off by default. Enforce the flag at intake, dispatch, and publication. - Move Decision model and Fast response setup to company Settings → Connections when the experiment is enabled. Place Connections below Environments. Separate the model sections with clear headings and a divider. Keep Decision model in General when the experiment is off. Route Costs setup links to the available settings page. - Make the acknowledgement prompt a multiline template string. Ask for a brief, positive response in the user’s language. - Add settings, connection/model selection, sponsorship, fixed-sample testing, and Costs history. - Add a Vercel AI SDK text service for existing native, routed, Bedrock, and local API connections. - Add durable per-turn requests, a bounded worker, a three-second admission deadline, and one inference attempt. - Integrate task creation, task and agent chat, steering, queued follow-ups, experimental board chat, shared chat intake, and email. - Preserve receipt provenance and exclude receipts from completion, recovery, interaction resolution, and agent wakeups. - Recheck authorization, source validity, real replies, budgets, and destination binding before publication. Preserve accounting for suppressed or uncertain outcomes. - Add provider contracts, database race tests, channel outbox tests, UI tests, Stories, and documentation. Keep decision-model execution unchanged. ## Verification - Local `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and UI token gates pass after rebase. The UI typecheck and build also pass after the final navigation fixes. All 37 focused navigation tests pass. The first full local `pnpm test:run` invocation reported seven chat failures. All seven passed in isolated reruns after fixture updates and host cleanup. This invocation was stopped after the full final-head CI suite passed. - Initial local database tests hit macOS shared-memory exhaustion. A diagnostic confirmed `shmget: No space left on device` with the system limit of 32 IDs. Three abandoned, unattached PostgreSQL IPC headers were reclaimed. The isolated rerun passed all 31 fast-response and channel tests. The two additional Slack regression cases also passed in a separate rerun. No active database was stopped. - UI token gates pass. Provider contract tests cover all supported API connection types. Fast-response tests cover uniqueness, authorization, budgets, expiry, cancellation, restart, real-reply races, and the experimental flag. - The test drive verified that disabling the experiment hides Connections and redirects its direct URL. Enabling it restores the saved OpenRouter setup. After restart on the final commit, the OpenRouter settings sample returned “Sure, I’ll take care of fixing the border around the settings panel.” in 428 ms. It used 260 input and 31 output tokens and recorded $0.0000576 in reported cost. - Earlier live OpenRouter verification produced a receipt in 1.013 seconds for a new task. The real agent then supplied its substantive answer. A separate settings test took 1.34 seconds, used 246 input and 23 output tokens, and recorded $0.0000361. - Live Slack verification on final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` passed for a fresh initial task and a follow-up in a disposable bot DM. The initial acknowledgement appeared 2.405 seconds after the Slack message and 1.413 seconds after durable acceptance; the follow-up appeared in 2.322 seconds and 1.160 seconds respectively. The recorded generation/settlement durations were 898 ms and 697 ms. The initial call used 291 input / 39 output tokens and cost $0.00006705; the follow-up used 281 / 47 and cost $0.00007035. - The Slack acknowledgements retained the assigned agent identity and `origin: fast_response`, source-turn references, and no fabricated run ID. A status snapshot after the initial receipt showed the task still `in_progress` with its real execution run. The agent then read the CSV fixture and correctly reported two ready items, two blockers, and their owners. Both replies stayed in the originating DM, and no duplicate generic working message followed the delivered contextual acknowledgements. The `new` command started a fresh conversation session without generating a fast response. - An earlier eligible Slack turn generated a response but suppressed publication. Its reported cost was retained, generic progress remained, and the real agent completed the requested result. This is recorded separately from the two delivered acknowledgements; the history did not expose a precise suppression reason. - Slack verification used real signed provider events, the existing intake/publication paths, and a user-approved temporary webhook-only HTTPS tunnel. Subscriptions were limited to direct-message events. The test bot was paused and the tunnel stopped afterward. Live channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified; their mocked tests cover intake, destination binding, publication, and continued underlying work. - Greptile reviewed final commit `24016fa525961ebc7a4acffdc5019ce123970549` at 5/5. Both new review findings are fixed and all threads are resolved. [Final-head CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38060015730) passed. This includes grouped server/chat/workspace tests, serialized suites, runner checks, browser journeys, typecheck, build, release registry, policy, and the canary dry run. - Manual check: enable Experimental fast responses. Open company Settings → Connections. Select a shared API connection and model. Save and use Test response. Submit a task message and confirm that its receipt does not complete the task. ## Risks - The migration adds receipt and configuration tables plus accounting references. It uses idempotent statements and follows the current migration sequence. - A slow provider, authorization change, or real-agent reply can suppress an acknowledgement. Existing progress feedback remains available. - Unknown provider billing retains a reservation until reconciliation. External deliveries with uncertain outcomes must not be blindly repeated. - Live Slack initial-task and follow-up DM journeys pass. Live Slack channel/group-thread and GitHub journeys remain unverified. The PR remains a draft and records these gaps. Final-head repository CI and automated review pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser interaction. The runtime does not expose an exact model snapshot ID or context-window size; these are not asserted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(server): extract heartbeat runtime selection (#15746)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Heartbeat execution prepares a runtime, dispatches work, and records the result. > - Earlier refactors separated workspace services, scheduling, and completion. > - The executor still builds native inputs and records runtime selection inline. > - This preparation must preserve admitted inputs and serialize with Stop. > - This pull request moves that phase into a typed runtime-selection module. > - Reviewers can inspect runtime preparation separately from dispatch and cleanup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #15732. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Maintainability of heartbeat runtime preparation and selection. **Subsystem affected** server/ — orchestration services. **Current behavior** The main heartbeat service has 8,128 lines. `executeRun` builds or restores native inputs, selects sessions and sandbox lifecycle, and records native or legacy selection inline. **Proposed behavior** Move this phase into `server/src/services/heartbeat/runtime-selection.ts`. The executor calls `selectHeartbeatRuntime` at the existing boundary and receives an explicit selection result. The main file becomes 7,275 lines, a reduction of 853 lines. **Reason and benefit** This gives runtime selection its own typed boundary and direct tests. It preserves existing decisions, database transactions, and cleanup ordering. **Breaking changes** None intended. All public heartbeat exports remain available. ## What Changed - Move native input assembly, completion contract selection, checkpoint lookup, runtime persistence, and native workspace-sync preparation into `selectHeartbeatRuntime`. - Preserve the row lock and controller lease check that serialize native selection with cancellation. - Report lifecycle and ownership changes to the executor immediately, including when a later preparation step throws. - Move sandbox lifecycle and model fallback helpers with compatible public re-exports. - Add 12 database-backed boundary tests. Update the existing session-recovery source test and developer guide. ## Verification - Structural AST comparison against current `master` confirms the 784-line selection block, moved helpers, and remaining service bodies are unchanged after normalizing boundary callbacks. All 140 public exports are preserved. - On final head `2eddaa485f`, all 12 new database-backed tests and 83 existing lifecycle, selection, fallback-warning, and session regression tests pass (95 total). - Five executor integration cases passed before the rebase. Their final-head rerun could not start because the local checkout was removed during verification; no assertions ran in that last attempt. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` both pass on final head. - Local verification limitations: the full `pnpm test:run` was attempted, then stopped after database/process startup timeouts in concurrent local runs. Two unchanged optional real-runner session cases timed out on the initial run and one isolated retry; they were excluded from the 95-test focused run. CI also skips those two binary-dependent cases. - All CI gates pass on final head `2eddaa485f`: typecheck, build, general and serialized tests, runner checks, E2E, and canary dry run. - Greptile reviewed final head at 5/5 with no actionable findings. ## Risks This boundary controls native admission and cleanup ownership. Losing an update after a later exception could change resource cleanup. Immediate callbacks preserve those updates. Tests cover Stop races, lost controller leases, immutable admitted inputs, competing runtime selection, and workspace-sync failures. The change adds no schema or API behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code editing, and command execution. The session does not expose the exact model variant or context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (95 focused tests on final head; broader local limitations documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(voice): add experimental Speko task connection runtime (#15727)
First PR: runtime. UI: #15728. Qualification: #15729.
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work through tasks and governed connections.
> - Chat connections already bind external conversations to those tasks.
> - Speko handles voice and telephony, while the selected Paperclip
agent does the work.
> - A call needs durable session authority, ordered follow-ups, and safe
result delivery.
> - This PR adds an explicit voice transport to the existing connection
runtime.
> - The UI and qualification suites follow in linked PRs. Speko stays
experimental.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Problem or motivation**
Phone and browser voice conversations cannot use the chat connection
task lifecycle. A separate voice runtime is needed to preserve task
authority, retries, and reply history.
**Proposed solution**
Add company-scoped voice sessions, signed callbacks, durable replies,
inbound intake, and an agent-facing outbound-call tool. Reuse existing
tasks, queues, secrets, and publications.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental chat connector entry points under Agent
Chat and Connected Apps. The project owner requested this feature.
Refs #11418 for the original provider catalog proposal. This
implementation uses the newer chat connection infrastructure rather than
an MCP catalog-only integration. Refs #15721 for remote OpenCode
startup.
## What Changed
- Add additive voice schema, shared contracts, session APIs, and
provider callbacks.
- Bind browser, inbound, and outbound sessions to an endpoint, task, and
selected agent.
- Add low-trust guest intake in an explicitly selected sandbox and keep
ordinary approval rules.
- Submit task work through session-scoped tools and push approved
replies through Speko POST /v1/calls/{id}/messages.
- Distinguish provider acceptance from confirmed spoken playback.
Reconcile reports without downloading recordings.
- Add protocol, migration, persistence, provider, and
delivery-diagnostic tests.
## Verification

feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use. > - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository access. > - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that connection hard to finish. > - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve creation and repository access. > - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials, signature verification, and task admission. > - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway, then completes setup in the stack. > - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat connector opt-in does not control them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub replies. **Current behavior** Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment. **Proposed behavior** Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent. Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit. **Breaking changes** GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters. Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual existing-App recovery remain supported. Companion gateway: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard was found. ## What Changed - Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog, routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue running when the UI setting is off. - Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts, known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App recovery. - Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage, installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and outbound local delivery. - Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than creating another App route. - Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot. - Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking Board messages or questions. - Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions, numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs. - Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor. - Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest 100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery, authorization, UI, and browser regressions. - Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar, feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port. ## Verification - Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it passed without changing the code. - Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the attachment suite. - Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview, and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI shard. - GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests, delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and company boundaries. - Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable qualification database was removed after testing. - Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot execution authority. ## Risks - Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and tenant binding. - Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations that already applied the earlier draft migration number. - A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed review. Runtime checks remain separate. - Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools remain opt-in. - Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and agent. - Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without granting new installation access. - A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text; the governed outbox retains its evidence. fix(chat-channels): resume follow-ups after Slack Stop (#15737)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat channels let verified users stop an agent and send another message from Slack. > - Native execution needs the stopping user's identity to recognize a deliberate Stop. > - Slack omitted that identity, so a stopped run could create a recovery hold. > - A pending AI login request for another user could then block the new message. > - This pull request records the verified stop actor and scopes AI login waits to the current user. > - Users can start a fresh turn after a verified Stop while access and approval gates remain in force. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A user stops a native run from its bound Slack thread. Slack confirms the Stop. The user sends a follow-up and receives a queued acknowledgement, but execution does not start. The run can acquire a recovery hold. A pending AI login request addressed to another user then blocks explicit continuation. **Expected behavior** An acknowledged operator Stop ends the current response. A new authorized user message starts through normal admission after the previous execution has stopped. An AI login request for another user stays pending but does not gate this user's turn. Tool access, approvals, unknown identities, and unconfirmed cleanup still block execution. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a native agent run in a Slack thread with a pending AI login request addressed to a different user. 2. Stop the run with the signed Slack Stop action. 3. Send a new message from a verified linked user. 4. Observe the recovery hold and the pending-decision message on the saved follow-up. Refs: #15421 for the related verified linked-user authority path. That change separates guest and trusted tasks; this change handles cancellation and login wait scope. ## What Changed - Pass the verified Slack user's identity to canonical run cancellation. - Scope AI login waits by the current run's responsible user, with a company-scoped lookup. - Use the same wait predicate for explicit continuation, native execution, and recovery decisions. - Admit already-saved native follow-ups posted after Stop through the existing continuation checks. Keep pre-stop and delivered messages held. - Keep pending cards and their authorization state intact. - Add regression tests for signed Slack Stop, fresh-turn admission, and same-user, unknown-user, tool-access, and company-boundary gates. - Give the two affected database setup hooks the standard 90-second budget. - Document Slack Stop and user-scoped AI login waits. ## Verification - Red: signed Slack Stop omitted the cancelling user; direct continuation and already-saved post-Stop continuation both returned `null`. - Green: 57 continuation/audience checks passed, including legacy operator Stops, pre-stop input, delivered input, same-user login, unknown identity, company boundaries, cleanup, ownership, pauses, and approvals. - The combined signed Slack Stop and original gate check passed: 39 tests. - Existing native question/completion suite: 33 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - Rebased regression check: 18 tests passed on current master. The reviewed database-support setup change passed all 7 audience checks. - Full latest-head CI passed, including all server, chat, package, serialized-server, Runner, browser, build, and canary gates. - The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It was slow on the contended host; no failure had been reported. The focused reproduction command is: ```sh pnpm exec vitest run server/src/services/issue-question-context.test.ts server/src/services/explicit-native-continuation.test.ts server/src/__tests__/chat-channels.integration.test.ts --fsModuleCache --testTimeout 60000 -t 'AI connection wait audience|scopes connection waits|resumes an already-saved follow-up|durably retries a signed Slack session stop' ``` - Manual evidence: inspected the bound thread's cancelled run, queued messages, recovery hold, and login card. The staging deployment has not been changed. ## Risks - AI login wait behavior changes only when both the addressee and current responsible user are known and differ. Missing identity retains the gate. - Starting a new turn does not grant access or answer the old card. Credential selection still uses the new run's authority. - Process, remote cleanup, recovery, task ownership, pause, budget, and approval checks remain in place. - No schema migration or public API change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, browser inspection, and code execution. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): select bundled Linux assets for remote OpenCode (#15721)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native Runner can execute OpenCode in a remote sandbox. > - Installed releases contain a Linux daemon and the identity of their provider pack. > - OpenCode did not select those assets by default. Cursor did. > - The upload fallback also compared the verified Linux daemon with the controller platform. > - This pull request uses the packaged remote assets for OpenCode and corrects that platform check. > - Users of a matching Paperclip package and Daytona image can start OpenCode without artifact path overrides. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15702. Refs #15422. **What happened?** Remote native OpenCode asked for `PAPERCLIP_RUNNER_REMOTE_PROVIDER_PACK_PATH` even when the installed release contained the expected pack identity. The daemon upload fallback could then reject a verified Linux daemon when the controller ran on macOS. **Expected behavior** OpenCode should select the release's Linux daemon and provider-pack identity. The controller must still verify the image assets before launch. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a complete installed Paperclip release on macOS. 2. Assign native OpenCode to a Daytona environment with the matching Paperclip image. 3. Start a task without remote artifact path overrides. ## What Changed - Select the bundled Linux daemon and provider-pack identity for remote OpenCode. - Skip the controller-platform comparison when the Linux daemon came from the verified bundled selector. - Add regression coverage for OpenCode and Cursor. Make the missing-identity fixture independent of local build outputs. - Document the matching package and image requirement, plus source-development setup. ## Verification - Red: both new regression cases failed before the fix. - Green: the affected runtime suites passed all 686 tests on the rebased head. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed before the rebase. - Full local tests were attempted, then stopped after failures outside this change. That run overlapped a rebase. The clean rerun of the AI connection fixture passed all 111 tests. The affected runtime suites also passed after rebase. All latest-head CI and security checks passed: 54 successful checks and two expected skips. - A real OpenCode/OpenRouter DeepSeek task completed in an isolated Daytona workspace on macOS. Durable bash receipts confirm `df -h` and `uname -s; uname -m`. The result was posted, the task completed, and sandbox cleanup succeeded. - The live test used verified remote development assets from the official image `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:506f22db7edd78f37c0c40bec1cc084af1850455026dbf467194bfbb8fcef141`. No remote artifact path overrides were set. This was not a new complete release assembly. - The low-trust test policy kept output quarantine. The operator permitted only this disposable test agent's OpenRouter credential binding. ## Risks - A second real external-origin retry executed successfully and saved its answer, but its completion report used unsupported evidence references. Its task stayed in progress. This PR fixes startup; completion-evidence guidance requires a separate fix. External voice playback was not verified. - A plain Daytona sandbox image lacks the provider pack. It still needs a verified full-pack override. - Source-development launchers must provide the remote build assets. This PR does not publish a new image or create a complete release assembly. - Explicit artifact overrides retain precedence. Manifest, executable, package, bridge, and provider-asset checks remain in place. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, code editing, shell commands, and browser testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before merging Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(recovery): preserve accepted workspace finalization during reaping (#15718)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A native run saves its accepted result before it copies workspace changes back. > - A restart can leave that copyback under an unverified physical owner. > - The generic orphan reaper can mistake the exited provider for lost work and release the source lease. > - Recovery must preserve the accepted result and let the existing finalizer settle its remaining work. > - This pull request checks that authority at the conditional process-loss write and preserves the matching recovery hold. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #15475 added bounded process-loss evidence. The earlier #9687 addresses dead-run finalize barriers with synthetic receipts. This change preserves an existing accepted native result and requires real workspace settlement. **What happened?** After a server restart, the native finalizer required operator verification of unfinished copyback. The generic orphan reaper then marked the run `process_lost` and released its source lease. A new execution path also made the recovery reconciler clear the copyback hold before physical ownership was verified. **Expected behavior** An accepted result bound to the same company, issue, and run keeps its unfinished workspace suffix under native finalization. The generic reaper must not discard its source. The existing finalizer must still complete the work, apply its bounded failure policy, or require operator verification. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Accept a native result and leave its coordinator in `workspace_finalizing`. 2. Stop the controller before copyback completes, leaving its physical owner receipt. 3. Start recovery, then run the generic orphan and lease cleanup sweeps. 4. Before this change, the run can fail with `process_lost` despite its accepted result and explicit copyback hold. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `011e5669`; the same recovery code remains at base `1602512820`. **Deployment mode** A hosted server with PostgreSQL and native runner execution. The tests use only isolated local PostgreSQL and synthetic fixtures. ## What Changed - Check the exact accepted result and `workspace_finalizing` coordinator before generic process-loss cleanup. - Repeat the check in the conditional status write. Compare the heartbeat tuple version to reject a result publisher that commits while the update waits on its row lock. - Preserve nonterminal copyback holds when another execution path appears. Resolve only the matching run's hold after verified finalization commits. - Add fourteen real PostgreSQL service regressions and document the recovery boundary. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts -t 'native finalization'`: 14 passed. The test filter excluded 383 existing tests. - Tests cover startup, repeated reaper and cleanup sweeps, malformed and foreign owners, an expired old controller, exact database bindings, legacy and unsupported states, verified settlement, and unchanged terminal-task dispositions. - The concurrent publisher test uses the real accepted-result transaction and proves the reaper update is blocked by its row lock before the publisher commits. - The local `pnpm test:run` aggregate was stopped after setup timeouts in the chat and tool-access files and a damaged-epoch Runner test failure. It is not a full local pass. - The chat file passed all 1,145 tests when run alone. The tool-access file then passed 419 of 420; one case returned `socket hang up`. That single case passed on its isolated rerun. The cause of the socket failure is not established here. - The damaged-epoch Runner case still fails locally at its existing completion assertion. The same assertion failed on untouched baseline `556daf9a` before this patch; its test and Runner sources are unchanged. Exact-head CI passes this coverage. No workaround for that local fixture is included. - `pnpm build` passed. - Independent review approved this exact commit. All 14 new PostgreSQL regressions and 181 existing recovery/finalizer cases passed. One existing suite needed an isolated rerun after a setup timeout. - Independent negative controls reproduced the original bug. Removing only the tuple-version guard reproduced the blocked-row race. Removing only the hold exclusion cleared the safety hold too early. Restoring this patch passed all three checks. - GitHub CI passed all 53 applicable checks. The two Storybook jobs were skipped as expected. Greptile scored this commit 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. - Local runtime: Node 25.6.1. GitHub CI supplies the repository's Node 24 checks. - `git diff --check`, Gitleaks, and a local diff scan for secrets and private data passed. ## Risks - PostgreSQL tuple versions are used only as an optimistic fence for `process_lost`. Both accepted-result publishers lock and update that heartbeat in their result transaction. - The guard requires the bound accepted result and the durable coordinator state. A heartbeat phase or arbitrary owner JSON alone cannot suppress ordinary process loss. - Existing finalizer retries, ownership verification, explicit cancellation, and terminal-task dispositions remain unchanged. A physical owner can still require operator verification. - This change does not replay provider work or restore a source already destroyed by an older controller. No migration or runtime operation is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and independent agent review. The exact service model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this worker session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(dot): run cloud assignments in managed sandboxes (#15691)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and governs their work. > - The Runner owns execution and task authority. > - Dot executes at OpenAI and uses Paperclip through MCP. > - Dot previously required a self-hosted controller. > - Cloud must admit Dot work in a managed sandbox and keep protocol traffic in the tenant. > - This pull request adds managed Dot execution and dedicated pairing routes. > - The same Runner path can later host sandboxed workspace tools. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** OpenAI Dot, through the existing dedicated MCP adapter. Related changes: #15402, #15414, and #15581. **Why this adapter is useful** Cloud users need to assign work to Dot and let Dot request work while idle. Neither path should execute agent commands on the control-plane host or require an idle sandbox. **How the agent is invoked** The tenant serves OAuth, signed mailbox events, and scoped tools. Normal admission creates a managed sandbox for each assignment. A verified Rust Runner owns that assignment and relays its tools and results. ## What Changed - Enable the external-agent invitation in Cloud behind the standalone Dot flag. - Launch Dot through the existing managed process launcher and authenticated PRP transport. - Verify the artifact digest and Dot capability before dispatch. Read provider checkpoints from the execution target for recovery. - Reject local execution in Cloud and reject managed workspace access for this release. - Add dedicated public Dot pairing aliases. Preserve the personal assistant consent paths. - Keep Dot events in the tenant when a personal Cloud broker is configured. - Use the app-configured heartbeat for Dot-initiated work. Report terminal admission failures and fence stranded offers before new admission. - Offer normal comments through the active assignment's mailbox. Keep their wakes deferred until a successful history receipt contains the exact IDs; preserve unread comments through finish, batching and recovery without replaying consumed input. - Require a sandbox process fingerprint before dispatch and allow a bounded five-minute controller reconnect gap. Preserve remote process birth without inspecting a colliding controller PID. - Recognize authenticated remote shutdown receipts even without an OS exit code. - Document dedicated pairing aliases and teach route coverage to inspect literal path arrays. - Add opt-in private Daytona qualification and focused contract tests. ## Verification - Workspace typecheck, production build, and UI token gates passed. - Focused onboarding, OAuth, managed environment, artifact metadata, and terminal-fence tests passed. One environment-test timeout passed on an isolated repeat. - A private Daytona fixture passed with the real Rust Runner, signed readiness, assigned app tools, document writes, duplicate receipts, authority fences, completion, and sandbox deletion. - A real OpenAI Dot completed both an operator-assigned task and a Dot-initiated task in managed Daytona sandboxes. Both leases were released. - A real accepted Dot assignment survived a controller gap longer than one minute with the same sandbox process, Runner, session, and assignment. Dot consumed the normal task-comment follow-up and completed exactly once; the lease was released. - A real cancellation fenced an accepted assignment, released its lease, and received Dot's acknowledgement without claiming a global provider stop. - Final local checks: 74 Dot execution, OAuth onboarding and API contract tests after integrating the current agent-lifecycle changes, 9 real Rust driver tests, 21 remote-runtime tests plus the 3 detached-process cleanup tests, and 17 lifecycle tests passed. The final live Daytona fixture passed and deleted its sandbox. - A final real Dot follow-up stayed pending until its exact comment appeared in a successful history receipt. Dot completed the original managed assignment once; its lease was released. - The broad local suite crossed a rebase and was stopped; its failures are not a qualification of this final source. Focused repeats passed. The final head passed all CI gates: workspace types, build, general and serialized test suites, Rust and Runner verification, all browser shards, and the canary dry run. Greptile is 5/5 with both findings resolved. ## Risks - Deploy the tenant app with its current Linux Runner artifact and the corresponding front-door protocol routes together. - This branch has not been deployed to a Cloud tenant. A deployed tenant still needs an OAuth and assignment smoke test. - Dot provider usage and cost are unmetered. Revocation fences Paperclip tools and does not prove a global OpenAI stop. - Missing or changed recovery identity fails closed. No replacement Dot thread is invented. - No schema migration is added. Managed Dot workspace access remains unavailable. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser testing. The exact runtime model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: integrate Pi 1.0 into the experimental Runner (#14921)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The experimental Runner owns provider processes and durable sessions. > - Pi needs working task execution and human controls. > - The five-PR stack must preserve changes already on master. > - Each layer now carries the complete integrated source for a safe sequential fallback. > - This PR belongs to native GitHub stack #15602, ending at #14956. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14436, #14631, #14743 and #14956. Ship Pi 1.0 through the experimental Paperclip Runner. The five PRs are #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924 and #14956. The user authorized the complete merge after checks pass. Existing `pi_local` execution is unchanged. Accounting and wider provider/platform qualification remain deferred. ## What Changed - Recover missing final replies after workspace finalization changes owners, using accepted-turn evidence without rerunning work or granting external-chat publication. - Preserve the admitted Pi instruction root across warm runs, while retaining changed-root rejection. - Give Pi a bounded 15-second default shutdown grace so stop, drain acknowledgement and durable suspension can complete. Explicit deadlines and other providers retain their existing behavior. - Integrate the Pi 1.0 runtime and master contracts. - Use Pi profile 22. Preserve explicit caller-selected models and exact native thinking levels. Keep Pi's wrapper, helper, extension and question/control behavior unchanged from the qualified profile-19 runtime. - Preserve master's Dot lifecycle and consent fields, configured task environment, status guards and current Codex/Claude dependency versions. Cursor stays qualified. Copilot stays pending; profile 17 binds the changed shared protocol validation sources. - Exclude general AWS IAM credentials from Pi static/custom provider bindings and selected task projections; preserve the provider-scoped Bedrock bearer key. Profile 21 is retained as historical provenance. Rust and cloud install probes use the current declaration. - Patch bundled brace-expansion 5.0.9 to the exact official 5.0.12 payload. Pin the patch and complete runtime closures. Include the patch in normal installed setup tooling. Keep the upstream Pi shrinkwrap as provenance and permit only this exact security correction. - Include current attestation files in the Docker build context. Keep the repository lockfile unchanged from master. CI and private image builds resolve manifest changes before their frozen installation. ## Verification - Full local `pnpm -r typecheck` passes, including Runner Rust, server and UI. Focused integration checks pass: 194 Runner admission/environment tests, 63 profile/credential tests with one expected skip, 152 Dot/UI configuration tests, and Pi transcript/notice tests. - Full local `pnpm build` passes on the final source. - Fresh final-source checks pass: all 698 Rust workspace tests (32 binaries), 156 credential/profile/controller tests with one expected skip, Runner TypeScript typecheck, and 20 package/setup/sandbox tests. - The profile-21 Pi materializer passes on the native host with the official pinned Node 24.21.0 and its npm. It verifies all 150 locked packages, the patched dependency and the exact closure. Setup/package bundle tests and UI token gates pass. - The old hashes were reproduced for all three supported targets before calculating the patched graph. New closure hashes are darwin-arm64 `282022db10150c6632b3444df421342e7d534bdf5d5fb1097a2e79d0625a2bcf`, darwin-x64 `64e251e19009f755c0b04f73ce2138246faab71a961b0f13d75ebfcc34bef12e`, and linux-x64 `713b1fdff42fb56a1518bdc084f181d70bee8ebadc3e4b1d76321ed9108c8410`. Independent native platform execution is separate from graph identity reproduction. - Historical cloud qualification remains unchanged: all seven core cases pass on shipping source `10dc43c9ec65d88c2f782d62afb296d09494f215`, harness `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`, image `sha256:5b3a775b383591bda1b0c1889e509acc70ce7f37c53f09733c81d59037f02280`, and accepted Sonnet 4.6/low fixture. All 215 canonical files and all seven cleanup checks pass independent verification. These are profile-19 results and are not relabeled as fresh profile-22 runs. - Current Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [The readiness plan](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/pi-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-02-pi-production-readiness.md) preserves campaign and failed-attempt provenance. - Merge only after every PR's current-head CI and fresh review pass. Linux CI covers the full suites, build and browser tests. The local embedded Postgres API-authority suite cannot start on this macOS/Node 26 host, so Linux CI must confirm that suite. ### Fresh profile-22 core qualification — 2026-10-08 All seven accepted core cases pass canonically on Pi profile 22, with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. This model is a fixture; production accepts the caller's explicit Pi provider/model. Runtime/install source: `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401`. [Hosted Linux image and clean-install verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868328023) passes, including all 20 source-bound archives, normal CLI/Pi setup, companion import and the production pack reader. This exact installation source includes the latest master integration and the corrected Pi warm instruction-root fence. Full local typecheck/build and current-head hosted CI verify the final stack. All 13 focused real-root regressions pass. The full local executor suite passed 662 tests; 15 database tests could not start the Mac embedded PostgreSQL service. Hosted Linux CI passes the full required verification and E2E checks. These fresh results keep their own source identity; profile-19 results remain historical. | Core path | Canonical campaign | Retained archive SHA-256 | | --- | --- | --- | | File edit, validation, download and Done | `pi-core22-replyfix-0-1791511228` | 23 files; `a473e8603a3dd4737863291f8d3d1e392391f0b16d433c3e0e0e9d8baf7a97b0` | | Pending question and controller restart | `pi-core22-replyfix-1-1791511376` | 33 files; `6b829c4eb74e1f32a89c692a4ae7130dbfc1c6d3cf13915effe2103d9e242c8e` | | Three-turn session/process/workspace continuity | `pi-core22-replyfix-2-1791511587` | 23 files; `7a87021f8f9a3fdd3c58bb4467f8d82c635e3ea4795d6e75f144d9aa14818df8` | | Four typed questions and browser reconnects | `pi-core22-replyfix-3-1791511881` | 42 files; `9e31755252be1f4f9cb0626c984c142d4d1ae5f5bee3a7af08444db8d12c280a` | | Plan approval and completion | `pi-core22-replyfix-4-1791512031` | 22 files; `a0383ce1aab38e7b5a25ce0e9dd3bebea5c037ebd96ae6b29dae19015da2ae2c` | | Same-turn steering and permission denial | `pi-core22-replyfix-5-1791512261` | 39 files; `c929b8c7070f0b66aedc17e65ca46e6beab1e363926ac9f7e2a75fb250f05949` | | Stop during pending permission | `pi-core22-replyfix-6-1791512390` | 33 files; `7f0a58ae0f4d5bfc76149435f4e322537089c5bd16e7ffe9b5ad71f10a621a07` | All 215 canonical files (28714587 bytes) are independently hash-verified. All seven cleanup grades pass, with no owned runtime process or temporary root after each case. Automatic retries are zero. The owned cloud host stopped normally after retention. The prior profile-22 warm attempt remains failed and separately retained: archive SHA-256 `1e54eba5ec72b50cee1534b23d1d1d4f21a090006b8a64501ba70db972abfde5`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Diagnosis reproduced a product bug comparing an agent-files root against an unset checkpoint-only field. The fix stores the admitted physical root separately from the adopted per-run collection capability. The real-root regression fails before the fix and passes afterward, including rejection of a changed physical root. Fixture, grader, model and all seven accepted case IDs are unchanged; this fresh campaign tests final-reply publication after file registration first. The intermediate restart attempt also remains failed and retained: archive SHA-256 `5dcaefdf1d17cf4cd54fd4cf810f45e736667392339b8ce7caf08bb4e225277f`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Pi resumed, wrote the verified answer and completed its task; exact runner suspension was proven, but idle stop consumed about 5.2s and left under 3s for the drain acknowledgement. The Pi-only default shutdown grace is now 15s, preserving a full 5s drain round trip and a finite suspension reserve. Explicit caller deadlines, other provider defaults, literal drain receipts and exact suspension identity checks remain unchanged. The timing regression fails before this correction and passes afterward; all 18 focused settlement tests and Runner typecheck pass. The final-source file attempt is also preserved as failed (`candidate_failure`), archive SHA-256 `db6767b6773ea618997927ac77bdb005a5ac81492c7b9c0ffbc900449f829bc9`. Native edit, validation, exact downloadable artifact and Done/succeeded all passed, and the exact final reply was durably recorded. A workspace recovery owner completed before the live heartbeat reached presentation, leaving that reply absent from task chat. Recovery now materializes only a completed final reply from the accepted turn of an ordinary internal Done task, preserving issue/run/contract binding, suppression, external-chat authorization and same-run deduplication. The database regression covers the generated file-preparation receipt, suppression, unapproved external continuation and replay. Server typecheck and all 49 response-selection tests pass; hosted Linux verifies the database regression because embedded PostgreSQL cannot start on this Mac. The delayed-final-answer database regression passes on [the final root-source Linux server shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868262553/job/113628594152), alongside 1,108 passing tests. The first root Runner shard had one unchanged durable-resume test exceed its 5-second timeout; the identical top-source shard and the isolated exact test passed. One rerun of that failed job and its required aggregate passed without source or test changes. The original failed job log and the single-rerun receipt remain retained. ### October 9 merge verification Current merge head: `5a8fe63512a7166aaef5cf50065a25008aa8b44b`. All current-head checks pass, including `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Current master conflicts are resolved. The user authorized the maintainer override of the code-owner review gate after these checks. The seven retained live core cases remain bound to source `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401` and its recorded cloud image. ## Risks - The security correction changes the dependency closure and profile identity. Old sessions must reopen on the new profile. Exact identities and credential bindings fail closed. - The runner remains experimental and requires explicit selection. Legacy Pi Local is unchanged. Caller model IDs pass through; the E2E model is a fixture. - Accounting and the broad platform/provider matrix remain deferred. This merge does not publish a release or deploy a service. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with reasoning, repository inspection, editing and tool use. The exact serving ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Final live qualification uses Pi 1.0.0 with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g.
