fix(adapter-utils): accept the bridge token in X-API-Key (#12785)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An agent can run inside a sandbox. The sandbox callback bridge is the loopback gateway that lets the agent call the Paperclip API from inside that sandbox > - The gateway authenticates each local call with a per-run bridge token. It read that token from the `Authorization: Bearer <token>` header only > - The run hands the agent that token in `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, next to `PAPERCLIP_API_URL` (`execution-target.ts`). The token is named an API key, and the public Paperclip API documents that an API key goes in the `X-API-Key` header > - An agent that follows the documentation therefore sends `X-API-Key` first, and its first call fails with 401 `Invalid bridge token.` > - The agent then retries with a bearer header and the same token. The run still succeeds, but it wastes a turn and it can leave a confused agent trying unrelated repairs > - This pull request makes both generated gateways read the bridge token from `X-API-Key` when the request carries no bearer token > - The benefit is that a documented header convention stops producing a needless failure, at no cost to the token check ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing issue found. I searched the repository for open pull requests matching `x-api-key` and `bridge token`. Nothing addresses the in-sandbox gateway header convention. The closest neighbours are unrelated: #12632 (Composio `mcp.headers.x-api-key`) and #12120 (the HTTP/2 transport for this bridge, already merged). The problem follows `bug_report.yml`: **What happened?** An agent running in a sandbox calls the Paperclip API through the loopback callback bridge. When it sends the credential as `X-API-Key: <bridge token>`, the gateway answers `401` with `{"error":"Invalid bridge token."}`. The token in that header is the correct per-run bridge token. **Expected behavior** The gateway accepts the correct per-run bridge token in either header convention. The public API documents `X-API-Key`, so an agent that follows the documentation succeeds on its first call. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a run whose agent executes in a sandbox execution target, so the callback bridge is active. 2. The run exports `PAPERCLIP_API_URL` (the loopback bridge origin) and `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY` (the bridge token) into the sandbox environment. 3. From inside the sandbox, call the bridge with that key in the documented header: ```bash curl -i -H "X-API-Key: $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY" "$PAPERCLIP_API_URL/api/agents/me" ``` 4. The response is `401 {"error":"Invalid bridge token."}`. 5. Repeat the same call with `-H "Authorization: Bearer $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY"`. The response is `200`. **Paperclip version or commit** Branched from `master` at `06c0e883f`. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted Kubernetes, with the agent in a sandbox execution target and a local model behind an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific (core bug). Observed with a local-model adapter on a sandboxed lane. Any agent that follows the public API documentation sends this header. **Additional context** The variable name is the trigger. The run calls the credential `PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, and an agent that has read the public API documentation knows an API key goes in `X-API-Key`. Paperclip's own in-prompt guidance uses `Authorization: Bearer $PAPERCLIP_API_KEY`, so the two conventions sit side by side. Across 12 observed runs on that lane, the agent's first bridge call used `X-API-Key` in 6 runs. Every one of those runs recovered by retrying with a bearer header and the same token. In some runs the agent first tried unrelated repairs, such as writing a test comment, before it changed the header. ## What Changed - Add one `readBridgeToken(req)` helper to the generated in-sandbox gateway source. The helper returns the bearer token from `Authorization` when the header carries one. It otherwise returns the `x-api-key` header value, or an empty string. - Use that helper in both generated gateway request handlers: the file-mode queue gateway and the HTTP/2 gateway. Both previously repeated the same two lines of bearer parsing. - The token still goes to the same `timingSafeEqual` comparison. The change does not alter the comparison, the token, or its lifetime. - Extend the file-mode round-trip test to cover an `X-API-Key` request with the right token, an `X-API-Key` request with a wrong token, and the fact that the header never reaches the host. - Add one HTTP/2-path test that covers the same three cases, and that proves a bearer token still wins when a request carries both headers. ## Verification Commands run on this branch: ``` node_modules/.bin/vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.test.ts Test Files 1 passed (1) Tests 52 passed (52) cd packages/adapter-utils && ../../node_modules/.bin/tsc --noEmit 0 errors in the two files this pull request touches ``` Both new tests are real regression guards. With the test file in place and the source change reverted, each one fails with `expected 401 to be 200`: the file-mode round-trip test and the HTTP/2 test. Both pass with the source change applied. A reviewer can confirm the security properties by reading two things. First, `tokensMatch` in the generated source is unchanged, so the constant-time comparison against the same per-run token is unchanged. Second, `allowedHeaders` in the same source is a closed allowlist of `accept`, `content-type`, `if-match`, and `if-none-match`. `normalizeHeaders` drops every other header, so neither `authorization` nor `x-api-key` leaves the sandbox on either transport. The independent host-side check in `http2-bridge-server.ts` is untouched, because each gateway sets `authorization: Bearer <token>` on the request it forwards. **ROADMAP.md check:** I grepped `ROADMAP.md` for `bridge`, `x-api-key`, `redaction`, and `sandbox callback`. There were no matches. This is a small bug fix in an existing subsystem, so it does not overlap planned core work. **Duplicate search:** I searched pull requests in this repository for `x-api-key` and `bridge token`. No open or merged pull request changes how the in-sandbox gateway reads the token. ## Risks Low risk. - The change widens which header the gateway reads. It does not widen what the gateway accepts. A request still needs the exact per-run bridge token, and it still passes the same constant-time comparison. - A bearer token keeps priority. A request that carries both headers behaves exactly as it did before, which a test now pins. - A caller that presents a non-bearer `Authorization` header and a valid `X-API-Key` header now succeeds instead of failing. This is intentional: the bridge only ever issues bearer tokens, so no bridge caller relied on that failure. - The header allowlist already excluded `x-api-key`, so no forwarded request changes shape. - No migration, no configuration change, and no behavior change for a caller that already sends a bearer token. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), extended thinking at high effort — verify before merge. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes — no documentation describes the bridge's header convention, so there is nothing to update - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --- <em>**[@superbiche](https://github.com/superbiche)** · contributor · drafted with Claude Opus 5, reviewed before posting; the voice and decisions are mine.</em> |

refactor: defer adapter launcher imports during workspace snapshots (#16492)
Defer adapter launcher imports until a directory merge resolves its lock root. Snapshot-only workers retain the same hashes, modes, exclusions, and ownership checks. Verification: 63 focused cases; full typecheck/build; exact-head full CI/E2E/security; Apex 5/5. Local native Daytona replies: 66.939s cold and 26.485s warm. Hosted staging and the cold latency target remain unverified. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf: stage independent remote GitHub launchers concurrently (#16484)
Stage at most three independent remote GitHub launcher files at once only when the existing effective concurrent-sync capability permits it. Preserve serial fallback, per-file locks and integrity checks, and settle every started upload before failure returns. Verification: 119 affected tests pass (one existing Linux-only oracle skipped on macOS); full repository typecheck/build pass; same-sandbox real-Daytona component comparison preserves all bytes/modes; current-head full CI/E2E/Superagent/Snyk and Apex 5/5 pass. The full native timing target remains separate and is not claimed by this change. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf: capture sparse checkpoint files in bounded batches (#16473)
Capture sparse checkpoint files in bounded batches while retaining content and mutation checks. Prevent inserts after SQLite automatic rollback and drain active readers before database close. Verified: 209 affected cases, final six capture controls, repository typecheck/build, real Daytona helper validation, and exact-head full CI/E2E, security and Apex 5/5. The matched component median saves 1.05s; the whole-agent latency target remains open. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(ci): shorten the test execution critical path (#16434)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Contributors wait for the full PR workflow before they can deliver fixes. > - Server shards still execute independent files in series, and a single Runner file serializes two long real-clock waits. > - Faster work outside the critical path does not prove a faster workflow. > - Overlap independent files while preserving isolation, test cases and real production deadlines. > - Compare complete baseline and candidate workflows, separating queue delay from execution cost. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16429. Related duration refresh: #12577. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The elapsed time from PR CI creation to the last required check. **Current behavior** General server shards use one worker. One Runner transport file takes about 333 seconds on Linux, including over 100 seconds in two real-clock regressions. These are the longest verification lanes after #16429. **Proposed behavior** Run independent general-server files in at most two isolated forks. Move the two intact Runner deadline regressions into a separate file to overlap their waits in the existing pool. Run two chat partitions per existing job, each with its own temporary home and embedded PostgreSQL. Preserve serial execution within files and every assertion and timing boundary. ## What Changed - Qualify both serial and parallel forks with real worker processes, isolated homes/configuration, timers, globals and environment. - Require both parallel workers to arrive before either exits. - Use two isolated forks for sharded general-server tests; retain one worker with an explicit shared test database. Other test groups keep their existing concurrency. - Extract the lease-expiry and Pi cold-admission regressions verbatim into a separate Runner test file; retain real waits and process/lease assertions. - Split each sharded chat job into two independent invocations; preserve serial shared-database execution. Await both children before failing the parent. Prove disjoint coverage and failure propagation. - Update the paired Linux benchmark to compare a complete general-server shard with identical case inventories. - Document concurrency and deadline-test placement. No production behavior, workflow topology or runner count changes. - Allow 15 seconds for snapshot integration cases that cold-start multiple real TypeScript workers. On the repeat, one-worker cases took 2.5–3 seconds, so queued or sequential starts could exceed the default five seconds. Preserve all cleanup, queue-release and filesystem assertions; these cases do not enforce a production latency deadline. ## Verification All 48 jobs passed on scheduling head `5d718e18` in [attempt 1](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/1). The [bounded repeat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/2) failed two existing snapshot-worker tests at their default five-second timeout. Its shorter duration is **not** counted as a successful performance sample. The latest head `3c894462` adds a targeted test-budget repair and [passes all 48 CI jobs](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38768433532) in **8m06s** (workflow creation to final required workflow job). This is **70 seconds / 12.6% shorter** than the 9m16s intermediate run, but the earlier 9m23s result remains part of the evidence: a stable average improvement is not established. Both branch-protection checks (`ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`) pass. The non-required Superagent Security Scan is still running; external PR scans are separate from this workflow duration. | Measurement | Before | After | What it establishes | | --- | ---: | ---: | --- | | General-server shard, paired on one Linux host | 430.94s | 292.99s | 32.0% faster; identical 1,047 case inventory | | Chat job 1 | 460s | 211s | Same full chat inventory spread across isolated partitions | | Chat job 2 | 408s | 274s | Serial cases within each child, separate PostgreSQL instances | | Chat job 3 | 408s | 216s | Total chat runner time fell from 1,276s to 701s | | Full PR workflow, first chat candidate | 9m16s | 9m23s | Not an end-to-end win in this pair: unchanged Build rose from 365s to 465s | | Full PR workflow, final repaired head | 9m16s | 8m06s | All 48 jobs pass; 70 seconds faster observed, not a controlled causal estimate | - Latest [paired benchmark](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885223) passes. Earlier paired server measurements were 33.3% and 37.4% faster. Unchanged fixture timing noise is not attributed to this PR. - All **1,337 chat case identities and outcomes match exactly** across [before-chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38760937988) and [after-chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38763885288/attempts/1), without duplicates or removals. Whole-suite records rose from 44,563 to 44,574: three new launcher checks and eight upstream warm-owner tests. Remaining name differences were generated fixture IDs/timestamps/PIDs, not removed tests. - The final run used `m7i-flex.xlarge` for Build (408s), with all chat jobs completing in 238s / 318s / 280s. It used the same actual merge base `afe5b341` as the first chat candidate. Optional profiling was disabled after the bounded measurement experiment; the full 48-job correctness workflow still ran. - The fleet used `m7i.xlarge` for the earlier Build and `m6a.xlarge` for the first chat candidate Build. Several unchanged compile/install/probe phases slowed together. This does not prove hardware alone caused the difference, and full-run attribution must account for runner/cache variance and the upstream base change. - Original full baseline: [all 48 jobs passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38753547876/attempts/2), 12m07s, including a server job that queued over five minutes. It is not a clean basis for attributing the whole elapsed-time reduction to this PR. An interrupted baseline and two misrouted candidate attempts were excluded and preserved; routing/trust rules were not weakened. - Local: 32 sharding/launcher checks pass, including disjoint coverage, shared-database fallback and a failed child that waits for its sibling. Real paired chat partitions passed 416 cases in 217.63s on independent embedded databases. - Both extracted Runner deadline regressions pass unchanged with real waits. An initial local attempt rejected a Node executable under the controller home; the identical binary in an owned non-home path passed without weakening that guard. - Real worker-isolation proof, actionlint and diff checks pass. Latest-head Greptile is **5/5**, with no review threads or actionable findings. - The eight snapshot-worker cases pass locally with a private `PAPERCLIP_HOME`. The first direct local invocation failed to open the default-home lock database under the sandbox; no production guard was changed. ## Risks Parallel files and paired chat databases may expose shared-state assumptions or increase peak memory. Cases stay serial within each invocation, and explicit shared databases keep the serial path. Complete server coverage and the full 48-job CI workflow pass. Check external required PR scans before merge; the full-workflow measurements are observational and do not establish a steady 12.6% speedup. Queueing, cache state and runner variance must be distinguished from execution improvements. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository inspection, code execution and GitHub tools. The exact serving model suffix and context capacity are not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green (48 jobs; both required branch-protection checks pass; non-required external security scan pending) - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(observability): detail workspace and connector preparation (#16454)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares a repository, sandbox workspace, and connector access before an agent can reply. > - Existing traces measure large preparation phases but leave important work inside those phases unclear. > - Repository source materialization and Browser Use discovery can do more work than their callers suggest. > - New detail must preserve access checks, run ownership, and the existing work order. > - This pull request adds fixed OpenTelemetry spans inside those operations. > - Operators can use one deployed trace to select the next performance fix. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #16419, #16425, #16428. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Startup traces for server workspace preparation, native sandbox synchronization, and connector assignment resolution. **Current behavior** Workspace and connector aggregate spans can take many seconds. The trace does not separate private source cloning, seed reuse, archive work, progress persistence, or each connector resolver. Browser Use resource selection builds the full authorized tool catalog. The configuration and native backend can each resolve connector assignments. **Proposed behavior** Show the awaited work as fixed child spans. Separate discovery queue wait from catalog construction. Preserve the initiating run context when another run releases a scheduler slot. Add no new lifecycle event writes for workspace detail callbacks. **Reason and benefit** Operators need evidence about the hosted critical path before another performance change. These spans distinguish filesystem work, provider transfer, authorization, transaction entry, locks, and reporting overhead. **Breaking changes** None. Authorization, query order, transaction ownership, synchronization, existing progress events, and task results retain their contracts. The change adds opt-in Observability spans under the existing OTLP endpoint gate. ## What Changed - Trace private source directory setup, Git credentials, clone, requested ref, source identity, and checkout publication. - Trace sandbox source capture, seed cache/replay, shallow clone and archive, overlay copy/archive, verification, upload, warm stamps, and descriptor persistence. - Separate existing awaited progress reporting from useful workspace work. Keep new detail callbacks trace-only. - Trace each connector resolver and Browser Use catalog/grant work. Split discovery queueing, descriptor sources, and policy evaluation. - Trace Slack authority, credential reads, catalog synchronization, transaction entry/settlement, and advisory locks. - Update the real filesystem staging trace expectations and the Honeycomb investigation guide. - Add a real scheduler regression for a queued job released by another run. Assert run ownership, parent spans, and exactly one completed queue span. ## Verification - Passed: server and adapter-utils TypeScript checks (`pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsc --noEmit` and `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec tsc --noEmit`). - Passed: 252 checks across 9 focused files. These cover real filesystem staging, native workspace synchronization, trace ownership, endpoint gating, and workspace preparation. - Passed after review: 26 trace-context, tracing-failure, and discovery-scheduler checks across 3 files (these overlap the first run). The new queued-discovery regression fails when context binding is removed and passes after restoration. An initial submillisecond timestamp assertion was replaced with explicit span-completion order to avoid SDK clock precision assumptions. - Passed on implementation commit `0e68968a4bd61001893d833f281f12bb110edbe1`: `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`. The later commit updates only an engine test expectation. - The first CI workspace lane found an old engine trace-tree expectation. It expected the earlier span set. The updated assertion now checks the new detail spans, their parents, and single completion. Its targeted executor check passes. - The full test suite, build, release registry, and end-to-end gates pass in CI on final head `40e37d89ef679109d60a96bb5731a0616efeaa43`: 55 passing checks and 2 optional Storybook skips. The full suite was not duplicated locally after the focused run. - Greptile reviewed the final head at 5/5. No unresolved review threads remain. - After deployment, filter Honeycomb by the hashed run ID and verify `service.version`. Inspect `heartbeat.prepare.workspace`, `runtime_selection.workspace_sync`, and the connector assignment parents. The guide in `doc/observability.md` explains each new family and the nested intervals. - No hosted run has used this new instrumentation yet. Local checks cannot establish hosted latency improvement. ## Risks - Tracing adds spans when an operator configures an OTLP endpoint. Detail remains capped at 16 spans per phase per execution attempt. - Parent and child durations overlap. The documentation explains how to avoid counting them twice. - A discovery job can start in another run's scheduler continuation. The bound callback preserves the initiating async context. - New spans export fixed names and the existing hashed run ID. They add no paths, repository URLs, connector resource IDs, credentials, tool schemas, or exception text. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact served model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Trace execution preparation and durable response persistence (#16419)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The server prepares an execution environment before it starts an agent. > - Operators need to distinguish preparation, provider wait, and response persistence. > - Existing preparation phases start separate traces, and the native session trace ends before the final response is saved. > - This pull request adds an execution-attempt trace and detailed spans at the existing work boundaries. > - The benefit is a measurable startup and settlement path without changing execution policy. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Operator-configured OpenTelemetry tracing for agent preparation, startup, and durable response storage. **Subsystem affected** Server orchestration, native Runner startup, and the Honeycomb run link. **Current behavior** Preparation phases start independent roots. Workspace lock waits, authorization groups, runtime asset work, provider-pack fallback, and the gap after provider completion are hard to attribute. **Proposed behavior** Use a server-owned async context for each execution attempt. Parent nested work to that attempt. Link the separately sampled native session because its ingress and queue history can begin earlier. Record transaction entry, lock waits, grouped authorization, asset preparation, artifact fallback, copyback, and response commit. **Reason and benefit** Operators can identify expensive work from recorded boundaries instead of inferring the cause from elapsed time. Nested and concurrent durations remain visible and must not be added together. **Breaking changes** No API or execution-policy change. New Observability span names and closed count attributes are documented. The existing local run-performance schema also records the additional provider-pack and harness measurements. Refs: #16178, #16205, #16330. ## What Changed - Add `task.execution_attempt` with same-run async ownership, independent root sampling, and native-session links. - Measure workspace transaction entry and settlement, advisory and row waits, source scans, reader groups, notifications, and writes. - Measure runtime selection and each concurrent instructions, skills, and MCP branch. Separate manifest, cache, materialization, and verification work. - Measure provider-pack discovery, verified reuse or upload, final verification, and remote harness state checks. - Measure workspace settlement, accounting, liveness, response authorization, comment commit, and publication enqueue. - Preserve the silent endpoint-off path, including when another library has registered a tracer. Bound repeated detail spans to 16 per name per attempt. - Extend the Honeycomb run link and document the actual coverage and remaining gaps. ## Verification - After resolving the conflict with retained-reader batching on `b98cdaea531c8447637cd4dcc19c61b3f5f41844`, all 61 targeted query, authorization, workspace-preparation and trace-boundary tests passed. The server typecheck passed. Reader tests still bound query count, avoid loading retained run payloads and enforce fresh project grants on every publication attempt. - Before that base integration, the tracing/exporter group passed 855 tests with 2 optional-SDK skips across 10 files and no inherited OTLP endpoint. It covers real PostgreSQL waits/rollback, durable response commit, assembled heartbeat preparation, concurrent parentage, sampling and tracer failure isolation. Native workspace/history tests passed 23 cases. These results remain supporting evidence for the unchanged tracing paths. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed during implementation. Full sharded CI, release validation, E2E and Apex 5/5 passed on prior head `8cebad80f3856dbcff6f3a6d5d34880ff77a20f2`. Fresh CI, security and Apex review are required on the current head before merge. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. No styles changed. - Earlier CI runs exposed exact-source-expression assertions changed by wrappers, missing run hashes on transaction-boundary spans, and sampling fixtures without an enabled endpoint. The fixes preserve the calls, add the declared hash and span cap, and enable tracing explicitly in the sampling fixtures. Focused repairs passed; the full prior-head CI passed after those repairs. Earlier failed run: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38729131366. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the base advanced during that process. Its mixed-version results are not final-head evidence. A full local-suite pass is not claimed. - The old-head Superagent scan stalled at 35%. The current head has a fresh scan; no security pass is inferred from the old pending result. - No deployed Honeycomb acceptance is claimed by this code change. ## Risks - Enabled tracing creates more spans. Repeated detail spans are bounded, and inventories use group spans. - The attempt and native session remain linked traces. Historical queue time can precede the attempt, and nested intervals overlap. - A committed comment proves durable server storage. Publication enqueue and realtime dispatch do not prove external delivery or browser paint. - New custom attributes use only the existing run hash and validated file/byte counts. test: bound command snapshot forwarding checks (#16421)
Keep the command snapshot option test focused on forwarding and real file copyback. Use inline delegates in that test, and retain the separate real-worker suites and original deadlines. Validation: 124 affected tests, full typecheck/build, exact-head CI/E2E/Superagent and Apex 5/5. Negative controls reject lost command and restore forwarding. Failed earlier merge-readiness evidence remains in the PR. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: isolate workspace snapshots from controller work (#16414)
Move native sandbox snapshot captures off the controller callback queue while preserving the existing capture and restore contract. Keep legacy adapters inline, bound captures to two workers, and verify cleanup and reordered worker completion. Validation: 461 affected cases, full typecheck/build, exact-head CI/E2E/Superagent and Apex 5/5. The full local canonical suite remains running; no full local pass or under-30-second staging response is claimed. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test: consolidate owner fixtures and retain real regression proof (#16047)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tests protect sandbox execution, run recovery, credentials and the board UI. > - Several owner suites repeat the same setup and prove the same result more than once. > - These copies add maintenance work and can hide weak assertions. > - Each cut needs a retained test that proves every distinct contract. > - This pull request consolidates repeated setup and removes twelve redundant executions. > - It also replaces two weak assertions with checks of real outputs. > - The benefit is 2,831 fewer test lines with clearer regression proof. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The maintenance and regression strength of the existing Vitest owner suites. **Subsystem affected** Sandbox adapter utilities, server heartbeat recovery and environment capabilities, and the board UI. **Current behavior** Tests copy database rows, query builders, render calls and runtime inputs. Some cases repeat an existing contract. One token test omits a real bridge credential. A PostHog host comparison can compare absent controls. **Proposed behavior** Use small local helpers with fresh values and the same action order. Keep each distinct contract in an owner test. Check real bridge credentials and fixed PostHog method states. Carry the exact persisted first-run success assertion into the stronger cancellation keeper. **Reason and benefit** The ten test files shrink by 2,831 net lines. Twelve redundant executions retire. All other case tables, inputs, security boundaries, timeouts and cleanup rules remain. **Breaking changes** None. This round changes tests and audit evidence only. **Additional context** Refs: #15978, the merged first cleanup. Refs: #16022, the merged prior cleanup. Its squash merge is `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Related open work: #14634 repairs feedback fixture completion; #14477 supplies explicit sandbox fixture tools; #14198 changes cleanup retry behavior in another heartbeat file. This audit preserves those separate action and cleanup contracts. It does not apply their changes. This PR was first stacked on `codex/test-audit-followup`. After #16022 was squash merged, only the two Round 6 commits were replayed onto merged master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. The original stack head is preserved in a local snapshot branch. The current diff contains only ten test files and two evidence files. No merge is requested. ## What Changed - Consolidate repeated setup in three sandbox adapter suites. Remove seven redundant executions and retain the real protocol, cleanup and scratch-file checks. Save 875 lines. - Consolidate heartbeat database fixtures and read queries. Retain exact wake cancellation, total run count and the actual first-run success receipt. Remove one duplicate execution. Save 1,372 lines. - Remove two repeated rejected-capability cases. Carry the absent snapshot assertion into the retained runner case. Save 22 lines. - Consolidate UI fixtures and render calls. Remove two repeated connection cases. Replace the weak PostHog comparison with fixed method and required-key checks in both real hosts. Save 562 lines. - Record audit scope, decision and expansion counts, all twelve keeper mappings and deliberate mutation results in the [audit report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6.md) and [controls evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/test-audit-round-six-delivery/doc/plans/2026-10-12-test-audit-round6-controls.json). ## Verification Source baseline: `a090035cafb29c06f6fca2dbe43561ad866b7c1b`. All ten original test programs are byte-identical at the stacked base `58c5c4aa241c85f4665a3159c192888bbb2a5cfa`. - Baseline: 1,841/1,841 cases passed in the main thirty-file owner/sibling run. Another 219/219 cases passed in nine extra files. - Preservation: all four proposal packages passed independent review. Whole-program helper expansion retains ordered inputs, callbacks, awaits, queries, fresh allocations and hooks outside the declared assertion migrations and repairs. - Candidate: all 2,048 cases passed across 39 complete owner/sibling files. The main run passed 1,831 cases. The extra run passed 217 cases. Both runs had zero failures and zero skips. - PostHog control: the repaired positive case passed. The original weak case passed with authentication choices removed. The repaired case failed at its fixed OAuth aria-checked assertion under the same mutation. - Eight accepted mutations failed at their intended assertions. They cover bridge-token exclusion, fallback cleanup, READY bytes, real scratch-file preservation, exact wake cancellation, the persisted first-run success receipt, rejected capability snapshots and reachable PostHog method controls. Two original weak cases passed with the same defects. All production source bytes were restored. - Rejected control: changing run status before legacy release timed out before wake cancellation. This result is not counted as assertion proof. Its replacement changed only the persisted receipt after real drain in the existing transaction. It failed at the direct fixed succeeded-row assertion. - No new code comments or 1,000-line threshold crossings were introduced. No production, schema, lockfile or workflow changes are included. On the exact final test sources, later committed as `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm check:token-gates` and `pnpm build` passed. The required full `pnpm test:run` completed with **exit 1** after **52.14 minutes** on clean, immutable `d8de9422f0703d4508a9dc880b67a07f13e0f110`. HEAD and tracked sources remained unchanged. The first general-server group ran 889 files: **882 passed, one failed and six skipped**. Its 18,032 cases were **17,925 passed, two failed and 105 skipped**. The only failing file was `server/src/__tests__/remove-test-home.test.ts`. On macOS, the read-only runtime bundle and symlink cleanup cases returned `ENOTEMPTY`. The permission-error case expects `EACCES` or `EPERM`. Four reported failure entries cover these two cases, including their cleanup errors. The test and helper are byte-identical to previous master `4b766b872993045a2e787404f0475503683e5ded` and audit master `e364b92c82`. The default wrapper stopped after that group failed. **Later local groups did not run.** The earlier public-MCP, HTTP log redaction and workspace snapshot failures did not recur. The 39 focused owner/sibling files and all 48 remote CI jobs completed independently. This result is an unresolved macOS cleanup limitation, not full local success. No test, skip, retry, timeout or cleanup rule was changed to hide it. The three adapter files received a whitespace tidy after focused execution. Full runtime AST and string/template/regex byte equality link those tested sources to the final sources. All 134 adapter helper calls were checked again. Replayed code commit `3d3defd2a60595a623045d9e2c6c586f4acb3452` has the exact final test bytes. Evidence commit `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a` adds the report and controls JSON, with one historical ancestry clarification. All ten accepted test hashes and all seven production-owner source guards match. No package, lockfile, workspace, TypeScript, Rust or Vitest dependency manifest changed since the audit snapshot. The [original stack CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38312876910) passed all 48 jobs on head `c171d6c0d603d22bb997c1f9a9bdcd5bcc5d22aa`. Those results are historical stack proof. The [fresh master-context CI workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223856) completed successfully with **all 48 jobs passed** on current head `e868e6645ce0d598d756d3458f0b3d71afd6db4a`. Its tested merge commit was `41292af60c6eb60d477637d23822bb17b08dc07e`, combining workflow base `88bf4c6c1d222f818faa56257efe79207c892a6c` with that head. The delivery commits remain based on pinned master `dabb8c5daf430a1987af611e2e7ca4c7b23ef7d4`. Both required master checks, `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, passed. Two separate optional Storybook checks were skipped by their scope gate. [Fresh Greptile review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16047#issuecomment-6133323165) gives the current head **5/5**, with no findings, inline comments or unresolved review threads. The [current-head commitperclip review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38318223666) also completed successfully. This PR remains open and draft; no merge is requested. The local macOS failure above remains unresolved. ## Risks - A helper could share a value or capture the wrong binding. Independent expansion and lexical binding checks guard the actual helper calls. - A retired case could contain a distinct assertion. Each cut has an exact keeper map and carried observations. - A mutation could fail before the intended assertion. Controls reject timeouts and earlier failures. The rejected receipt mutation remains in the evidence. - The delivery ancestry changed after the parent squash merge. Exact source hashes preserve the audited tests and producer receipts. Fresh CI and review passed in the current master context; the broad local run remains evidence from its immutable audit snapshot. - The complete local default failed in two unchanged macOS cleanup cases. Later local groups were not run. This limitation remains visible even though focused checks and remote CI passed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with this work. The exact served model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. It used repository tools, code execution, AST analysis and parallel audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(acpx): bound Claude MCP tool calls when runtime MCP servers attach (#16360)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Hosted `claude_local` runs use the ACPX engine. Paperclip gives each
run its runtime MCP servers (for example the `paperclip-assigned` tool
gateway) as ACP `mcpServers` entries.
> - Claude's default MCP tool timeout is far longer than a run. ACP
`mcpServers` entries have no per-server timeout field. So the agent
waits on an MCP call until the call answers.
> - Hosted error reports show runs that end with "Run exceeded the
adapter execution timeout (sandbox)". The stop-time diagnostics from
#15962 show the problem: the agent went silent about 50 seconds into the
run, three tool calls of ACP kind `other` stayed pending, and nothing
ended them until the 4h sandbox backstop.
> - The gateway bounds the remote provider call (10s default, 60s max).
But other steps on the gateway `tools/call` path have no deadline: DB
queries, row locks and pool acquisition, the credential steps before the
provider timer starts, and the stdio child exit wait. One stuck step
holds the agent turn for hours.
> - This pull request gives the agent's MCP client a deadline:
`MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT` for ACP Claude runs that receive runtime MCP servers.
> - The benefit is that a stalled gateway call becomes an MCP error that
the model can see. The turn continues and does not spend the full 4h
execution budget.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
- Refs #15962 (diagnostics that identified the silent turn with pending
tools)
- Refs #15448, #15456, #15850 (related gateway timeout and
connection-health work; this PR does not overlap with them)
**What happened?**
A hosted `claude_local` run sent parallel MCP tool calls. No call
answered. The run stayed silent for about 4 hours. Then the sandbox
execution timeout ended it with "Run exceeded the adapter execution
timeout (sandbox)".
**Expected behavior**
A stalled MCP call ends with an error after a bounded time. The agent
sees the error and continues.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start an ACP `claude_local` run that has runtime MCP servers.
2. Make the gateway `tools/call` request stall (for example, hold a lock
that the request needs).
3. See that the run stays silent until the adapter execution timeout.

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company. > - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and finalization. > - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results through that Runner. > - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own conversation. > - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch. > - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities explicit. > - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed journeys pass. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882. **Why this adapter is useful** Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions, documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under its agent permissions. **How the agent is invoked** A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when routine-row clicks fail. The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent, Runner, governance and artifact foundations. ## What Changed - Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and distinguishing session closure from remote termination. - Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer; recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without manufacturing a native identity. - Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically replay ambiguous HTTP delivery. - Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review. Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops. - Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes, with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop resolves the selected run and its agent. - Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation, restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its qualification remains pending. - Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch uncertainty from a revoked session. - Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent, management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip workspace and third-party tools are deferred. ## Verification - Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192 tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner, saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary finalization. - Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass. These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not real-provider acceptance. - Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass. The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54 successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings. - Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an authenticated-reply state. - Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows, Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The provider stays disabled by default. - The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping. - Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and remains outstanding. ## Risks One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots. Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the experimental provider. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size are not exposed by this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve public identifiers in feedback redaction (#16168)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People rate agent comments and documents to capture feedback. > - Feedback bundles remove credentials and personal information before export. > - The feedback scanner treats ordinary dotted text as JWTs and authentication terms as bearer tokens. > - This pull request checks encoded JWT headers and preserves known authentication terms. > - The benefit is readable feedback context with credential masking kept in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12309 for the related dotted-identifier false-positive report. This PR fixes the separate feedback scanner. It does not close every case in that report. Related PR: #14318 adds fine-grained GitHub token coverage. It addresses a separate credential form and is not duplicated here. **What happened?** Feedback exports replace `api.openai.com`, dotted filenames, and public schema IDs with a JWT placeholder. They also replace the words after `bearer` in phrases such as “bearer tokens.” Five-part encrypted JWTs are only partly masked. **Expected behavior** Keep public identifiers and authentication terms readable. Mask complete credential tokens. Count only text replacements in the redaction summary. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Pass `api.openai.com` or `Use bearer tokens.` to `sanitizeFeedbackText`. 2. Check that the original text is returned and the redaction counts stay empty. 3. Pass a signed JWT or an encrypted JWT to the same function. 4. Check that the full token is replaced and one JWT replacement is counted. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in the feedback scanner on master at `5e8e992df2b3d71f82091b7bbf29fd482854d9f5`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. The defect is in the shared feedback export service and does not depend on deployment mode. ## What Changed - Use the existing JWT header predicate in the feedback scanner. - Match complete three-part and five-part tokens, including direct-encryption tokens with an empty key segment. Accept short token segments in the predicate. - Preserve the closed set of authentication terms already used by the general scanner, including terms inside closing prose delimiters. - Count only replacements that change the text. - Add tests for readable context, credential masking, nested values, and redaction counts. - Document feedback text redaction. ## Verification - Focused redaction and feedback service tests: 89 tests pass across five suites. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` passes. Full local typecheck, tests, and build were attempted. The kernel killed compiler and test processes at the sandbox memory limit of 4 GB. Serial retries and a capped Node heap still could not complete the server compiler. CI runs the full repository checks. - `git diff --check` passes. - Latest commit `0eb8d3fb4257bb79e67fab615a8299ef69230ad8`: **55 checks passed**, including full typecheck, tests, build, and E2E; two optional Storybook checks were skipped. [CI evidence](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38407932875). Both Greptile findings have regression tests and fixes. [Greptile gives this commit 5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16168#issuecomment-6146917423), with both review threads resolved. ## Risks - This changes the feedback export matching rules. Public dotted text no longer triggers credential masking by shape alone. - Explicit credential assignments, provider keys, structured secret fields, email addresses, and phone numbers remain masked. Tests cover these cases. - Existing feedback snapshots are not rewritten. No schema change or migration is needed. - The encoded-header check remains a heuristic. It is not a full JWT validator. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The runtime identifies the model as GPT-6. It does not expose the exact provider deployment ID or context window size. The earlier patch and this PR preparation were AI-assisted. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): qualify Codex platform packages and cache hosted builds (#16028)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native execution needs a compatible installed daemon and provider dependency. > - The Codex-default work found missing platform packages and clean-install startup failures. > - Release builds also repeat dependency compilation and run preparation serially. > - This prerequisite packages four daemon targets and verifies installed native startup. > - It also caches hosted Cargo dependencies and overlaps JavaScript preparation with compilation. > - Agent creation defaults and experimental gates stay at the current master behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15683. Refs #15555. Refs #15422. Refs #15926. Refs #15932. Extract runtime and installation support from #15683. This prerequisite has 65 changed files. Creation, onboarding, imports, UI runner selection and graduation remain in the dependent PR. Feature/access maps and the Storybook source catalog stay synchronized. Existing agents keep their execution choices. ## What Changed - Correct the existing runner test fixtures. Reserve owned credential quorum listeners through the existing bounded fixture helper. Keep foreign listeners intact, run actual credential staging once, and preserve its rejection and unchanged-auth assertions. Reuse the durable-resume outer-limit correction. Wait for actual warm-completion and held-authorization callback entry under the existing recovery deadline and surface early request errors. Preserve every semantic assertion. - Retain bounded installation failure diagnostics through the existing qualification receipt upload. Keep the original error, 10-minute deadline and all success checks. - Keep startup ownership until credential preparation and registration drain. Reject duplicate and post-close startup/resume work. Observe shutdown during normal and adopted authentication readiness. Preserve the primary failure and retain private state when cleanup is unconfirmed. - Package Linux x64/ARM64 and macOS Apple Silicon/Intel daemons. Verify target headers, source identities, manifests, and hashes before assembly and installation. - Reuse the existing release producer/consumer workflows. Cache Cargo dependencies by target, OS, compiler, lockfile, and contract inputs. Rebuild workspace binaries. Permit trusted cache writes only for canonical exact-source master pushes. - Overlap JavaScript preparation with native compilation. Join both commands and failure/cancellation cleanup before artifact verification. - Preserve shell positional arguments in the shared SSH runner and apply environment assignments correctly. Reject environment option keys. Six before/after controls and two real SSH subprocess paths pass with zero provider calls; this fix lands before both Codex and Claude defaults. - Admit verified suspended SSH backups during cold controller continuation, using the same full-scope, integrity and lifecycle checks as sandbox targets. Two positive SSH cases fail before; all 14 positive/negative matrix cases pass afterward. Active ownership and corrupt/malformed/nonempty state remain rejected. - Record measured sandbox platform facts through the existing explicit environment probe. Bind facts to the company, effective provider configuration, immutable OCI image and actual captured image binding. Check the returned cleanup receipt. Reject client-authored proof and stale or named boot identities. Creation and discovery allocate nothing. Preserve connection-only behavior. - Resolve the actual remote Codex target and preserve same-host development overrides. Preserve runtime artifact verification. Use actual protocol/model compatibility rather than a numerical CLI version fence. - Resolve the installed Codex login dependency on 64-bit Linux and Mac independently of the daemon libc baseline. Preserve account homes and safe errors. - Fix actual clean-install TOML table comparison. Preserve strict semantic checks, comments, private writes, and malformed-input rejection. Preserve primary startup failures and bounded cleanup. - Document GNU libc 2.39+ and stock Ubuntu sandbox prerequisites. Qualify ARM startup with a scoped distribution profile and unchanged global restrictions. Preserve Windows and Alpine deferral. - Preserve selected and saved native Codex reasoning effort in the existing UI builder, while excluding it from other providers. This small shared correction prevents import edits higher in the stack from dropping effort. - Reuse existing installed-package checks and assertions. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex native payloads. Official npm dependencies supply the consumer's Codex binaries. All Docker and native builds stay remote. ## Verification Candidate: `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It includes current master `e168512f7bdbb6af6ea01954c6d7ed80b91e903e` and preserves prior candidates through ordinary commits. Current [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601686) is successful on attempt 2. GitHub reports 54 successful checks and four conditional skips, including required verify and browser aggregates, workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, both runner shards and [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38346601609). Fresh current-head Greptile is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. The passing build's clean Grok/Codex report records CI merge source `7a82a37438e6e448abc7cc5caa60dc2519a97be0`, 18 installed packages, omitted Codex payloads, official host-only npm dependencies and zero provider calls. Pi setup and its no-prompt lease verification also pass. The first attempt's single 60-second Node archive download timeout remains retained; its DNS/TLS/download cause remains unknown. One unchanged-source retry was requested through the normal Build-job dialog with debug logging disabled. GitHub's attempt 2 graph reports the other CI jobs as well; no second retry or source/deadline relaxation was made. The [final exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38347027535) is successful on literal `271d434c170e74bdedde65d0b13059a55419c943`. It passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly and clean installed consumers on Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64. The nine qualification-mode skips are intentional; full CI above covers their ordinary gates. Native builds and Docker assembly ran remotely. The predecessor [`dae808` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38342104102) remains literal historical evidence. Only tests and the dated record differ from that source; runtime, package and workflow code is unchanged. The reused credential fixture correction passes all 42 canonical Node 24 controls with synthetic data and independent matching-source review, and the current hosted runner shard passes. Production credential behavior is unchanged. **Merge hold:** current-source CI, fresh 5/5 review and exact-source package qualification pass. Actual code-owner approval and normal protected merge remain pending. No slice has merged or deployed. GitHub CLI authentication needs refresh; the normal signed-in embedded GitHub UI provided this status without credential workarounds. - The master merge preserves both Storybook source-review appendices and the guarded test-home cleanup. All six existing cleanup controls pass without skips. Master's isolated-home helper/test/setup are byte-identical. The two existing whitespace lines in master's unrelated privacy test remain outside this PR's diff. - Canonical Node 24 passes all 24 existing public-install helper tests. Three narrow added cases prove bounded/redacted failure metadata, symlink exclusions, original exception identity, failed diagnostic writes and no false failure on success. The Mac installer now uses `--timing`; at most two 16 KiB tails and 32 structured entries per tail enter the existing receipt upload. Raw argv, URLs, environment, error text and stacks are omitted. A failed receipt explicitly remains FAILED/unqualified/runtime-not-attempted. The 600,000 ms install deadline and every real package/hash/payload/lock/lifecycle/runtime oracle are unchanged. - Canonical Node 24 reproduces the durable-resume outer timeout under controlled fake latency. Only its outer test limit changes to 15 seconds; internal 500 ms/5 second deadlines and usage/effect assertions remain. Controlled warm-recovery and before-bootstrap authorization scheduling delays reproduce their callback polling failures, while the explicit entry signals pass. Early recovery errors surface unchanged. Independent review is clear. Historical mock binaries support the fixture controls; fresh full hosted CI remains decisive. The original hosted callback failure cause is inconclusive. - The composed runner/surfaces/server/E2E TypeScript checks pass. Map checks pass 35 areas/171 capability IDs. Token gates pass. The existing Storybook catalog passes 223 files/2,210 stories; story IDs and classifications remain intact. The current master had 25 inherited stale fingerprints from three changed map recipes. Only those guarded fingerprints and a source-only review note change; all 92 non-map story/component/fixture inputs remain unchanged. Existing classifications are retained. This proves source structure, not visual or live acceptance. - The 65-file contribution audit has no code file crossing from below 1,000 lines to above the limit. Earlier comment cleanup preserves executable emissions, parsed workflows and action pins. Independent cleanup/catalog and three-file reporting reviews are clear. No new workflow, suite, grader or local native/Docker build was added. **Prior `dae808` gate evidence:** fresh Greptile is 5/5 with four resolved threads, isolated native compilation and the browser aggregate pass. Its first runner shard passes the previous two corrections but fails a different held-authorization cell at the implicit one-second polling deadline. It records 1,672 passes/one failure/three skips. This candidate applies the verified entry-signal correction without changing production deadlines or any semantic assertions. Its original hosted cause remains inconclusive until fresh CI. **Previous-source evidence, kept literal:** the [exact `16a532` package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38338806076) passes all four native producers, public Linux package assembly, Apple Silicon, Intel Mac and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. Its fresh review is 5/5 with all four threads resolved. Full CI records 52 successful checks, four conditional skips and the two fixture failures corrected here. This is not a green full-CI candidate or proof for the new source. `64c074fb8da1b31f8d6042c4fef48dc4164e759b` passed [full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726938), 54 checks/four conditional skips, [isolated native compilation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332726787/job/115085895328), and fresh Greptile 5/5/all four resolved threads. The hosted transport suite passed 246 tests and startup trust passed 22, closing that source's local fake-binary limitation. These are historical after reconciliation. The [previous exact-source package campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38332921463) built all four platform daemons and passed public Linux package assembly plus Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 installed consumers. **Intel Mac failed:** its initial scripts-disabled npm install timed out before lifecycle/runtime assertions. The underlying download/resolution/host cause is unknown because the old helper deleted the npm logs. This is the concrete baseline for the diagnostic change. The failed campaign remains failed; no all-platform signoff or automatic retry is claimed. The earlier `a200495` [four-target campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38283695248) and [scoped ARM qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38291535914) remain component evidence. Cargo restores were cold misses; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads. Official npm dependencies supply Codex on the user's platform. Current-source full workspace typecheck/tests/build, Linux DB controls, static/Rust/native tests, all browser shards and exact-source package consumers must pass. New-agent defaults and final managed onboarding belong to #15683. Actual private Cloud composition, warm/cold signup, task/follow-up and rollback compatibility remain later release gates. Source audits found that ordinary managed onboarding does not run the saved platform probe and Cloud distributes named snapshots without a verified final boot-image binding. These dependent release blockers remain open; prequalified E2E fixtures do not close them. Master adds task-workspace migrations; the final image/migrator and previous-image checks must include them. ARM paid task/follow-up and ordinary OS APT installation are not proven. ## Risks - Multi-target packages require source and header agreement. Missing or mismatched artifacts fail explicitly. Existing execution choices remain unchanged. - Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+ and compatible sandbox prerequisites. The scoped hosted ARM preparation does not qualify arbitrary containers or kernels. Windows, 32-bit ARM, and Alpine remain deferred. - Only dependency crates are cached. Preview jobs cannot write trusted caches. Concurrent command cleanup must preserve the primary failure. - Native-free Paperclip packaging retains official Codex npm dependencies. No Codex payload bundling, schema migration, automatic agent migration, or production deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and parallel agents. The exact serving model snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(inbox): keep automatic recovery cleanup out of personal participation (#16063)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The personal inbox uses issue activity to identify a person's participation. > - Issue reads can cancel stale recovery actions and record that cleanup as the reader's action. > - This adds unrelated tasks to the inbox and refreshes their activity timestamps. > - A workspace owner hold can also alternate between creation and cancellation after a task finishes. > - This pull request corrects cleanup attribution, excludes historical read cleanup, and retains one exact owner hold. > - Agents can read authorized issue activity to diagnose the same problem themselves. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15742 excludes logs by the execution-recovery actor from activity timestamps. This PR covers reader-attributed stale recovery cleanup, personal inbox participation, exact workspace owner holds, and sandbox issue activity access. I searched open issues and PRs for recovery inbox and activity bridge fixes. I found no duplicate for this defect. **What happened?** Loading issue lists cancels stale recovery actions under the reader's identity. The personal inbox treats those rows as user participation. One completed issue had hundreds of such rows and no edits or comments by the affected reader. A retained native workspace owner repeatedly creates a verification action that read projections then cancel. Sandbox agents cannot inspect the issue activity because the reverse bridge rejects the route. **Expected behavior** Automatic cleanup belongs to the system and does not add an issue to a reader's inbox. Historical cleanup rows remain auditable but do not count as participation or recent activity. An unresolved physical workspace owner keeps one stable verification action. Agents can inspect activity only for issues their identity may read. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Finish a task whose native run retains an unverifiable workspace owner receipt. 2. Repeat workspace recovery checks and GET requests for issue detail, compact lists, and recovery actions. 3. Observe new recovery action IDs and reader-attributed cancellations in the activity history. 4. Query the personal inbox for that reader and observe the unrelated task. 5. From a sandbox agent, request GET /api/issues/:id/activity and observe Route not allowed. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed at |

fix(costs): preserve usage attribution and explain unavailable run costs (#15948)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The cost ledger records usage and controls agent budgets. > - Some runs lose the selected model or API billing category before their usage reaches the ledger. > - The dashboard reports missing costs but does not identify the affected runs or the available actions. > - This pull request preserves usage attribution and adds a compact view of cost gaps grouped by agent. > - Operators can inspect runs, open agent settings, and record saved costs without starting new agent work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15634, #11938, #15879. This follows the merged subscription reporting in #15634. The older proposal in #11938 addresses part of ACP model attribution. This change also rejects conflicting models across a turn, fixes credential-backed billing capture, and explains cost gaps in the existing dashboard. The Pi receipt recovery work in #15879 covers a separate adapter recovery path. This PR preserves unresolved receipts and does not recover provider usage or reprice past entries. **What happened?** ACP results use the requested model even when the runtime selects a model. Native and OpenCode API runs can report unknown billing despite a matching API credential. The dashboard shows notices without links to the affected runs. These gaps make API and subscription totals harder to interpret. **Expected behavior** Record the model selected by the runtime. Identify API billing only from a matching credential. Keep costs unresolved when reliable usage or pricing is absent. Show the affected agents and runs. Offer an accounting retry only when saved evidence is ready. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an ACP agent with its model left unset, or use a matching API credential with a native or OpenCode agent. 2. Inspect the recorded model and billing category for the run. 3. Open Costs Overview for a period with unpriced usage or terminal runs awaiting receipts. 4. Inspect the notice and try to find the affected run or the relevant agent settings. **Paperclip version or commit** Current master at `657e71584a0`. The patch is rebased on that commit. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server and local development. The cost detail tests use a disposable PostgreSQL database. ## What Changed - Preserve the runtime-selected ACP model in checkpoints and final results. Conflicting models across one turn remain unpriced. - Share credential-backed API billing checks across native and OpenCode results. Keep unknown billing when the provider and credential do not match. - Add company-scoped cost detail and accounting retry endpoints. Board viewers can read details but cannot retry. Agents and foreign companies are denied. - Limit each detail category to 25 entries. Use one consistent database snapshot and sparse indexes matching the filters and sort order. Add the unknown-billing count to the existing summary query. - Replace the notice with an expandable count line. Group entries alphabetically by agent. Show the saved blob icon, link each name to configuration, and put run and retry links beside the date. - Preserve estimate and unavailable-price labels on Providers and Billers; keep retry confirmation after the resolved notice disappears. - Fetch details only while expanded. Retain the last loaded details after a refresh error. Retry saved accounting only; do not rerun the agent. - Add capture, database, authorization, UI, and Storybook coverage. Update the implementation contract and cost reporting guide. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after rebase. - `pnpm build` and `pnpm build-storybook` passed after rebase. - `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check` passed. - 1,086 focused tests passed across 17 files. These cover ACP, native and OpenCode capture, PostgreSQL reports, route authorization, OpenAPI, Costs UI, and existing accounting regressions. - Desktop and mobile browser checks passed during UI review. They cover lazy expansion, alphabetical groups, loaded blob icons, configuration and run links, keyboard retry, and layout overflow. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted with command-scoped `init.defaultBranch=master` for Git fixtures. It was stopped after a native session recovery failure reproduced on unchanged base `657e71584a0` (`archives a damaged prior epoch before completing guarded same-task replacement with real runnerd`). An MCP upload case failed in the broad run but passed in isolation on both the base and PR branch. These local limitations do not affect the 1,086 passing focused tests. - Current-head CI is green, including all unit test lanes, serialized server suites, runner checks, typecheck, build, policy, and eight browser shards. Apex re-review is 5/5 on `56de60effdb`; all four original findings are addressed and every review thread is resolved. - PostgreSQL applies migration `0333` in the integration fixtures. EXPLAIN ANALYZE on the production detail statements uses the new sparse indexes behind 5,000 healthy records in each table. - Ten provider/biller card cases cover missing and estimated prices; the retry test covers row removal and notice unmount. A live Storybook browser check verifies the confirmation and updated count. - Run `pnpm storybook`. Open **Costs / Subscriptions / Cost Data Quality Details** to inspect the production page with representative fixtures. ## Risks - Model and billing metadata change for future runs. Estimates still require complete usage and a supported price. No past cost amount is rewritten. - A missing final receipt remains unresolved for budget checks. The display changes after fifteen minutes; that time limit never authorizes settlement. - Accounting retry is a write action. It retains the existing company checks, receipt fences, idempotency, and audit logging. - Detail reads are bounded and run only after expansion. They poll every 30 seconds while open. No provider probe or new summary query is added. - Migration `0333` adds two partial indexes; it changes no stored cost amounts or table columns. Index creation scans the existing tables and may briefly block writes during deployment. No lockfile or workflow change is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code editing, browser checks, and test execution. fix(restore): retry sandbox copy-back before holding the task for repair (#15920)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Legacy sandbox runs copy the agent's workspace files back to the host when the run settles. > - When this copy-back fails one time, the server keeps the sandbox and puts a board-owned repair hold on the task. > - The hold blocks new messages. Only an operator API runbook can clear it. The board shows that runbook text, so users do not know what to do. > - Many copy-back failures are transient: a dropped transfer, a provider error, or a merge lock that another restore holds. > - This pull request retries those failures automatically while the run still has its merge baseline and before any host file changes. > - The benefit is that most failures repair themselves, and the remaining holds explain the situation in plain language. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14590 (related: no-replay recovery holds) **What happened?** A legacy sandbox run finished its work, but one workspace copy-back attempt failed. The task then showed "Recovery needed" with operator-only steps ("verify its exact stop receipt … record workspaceRepairEvidence"). Messages from the user stayed saved and were not delivered. **What did you expect?** Paperclip retries a transient copy-back failure automatically. If a repair is still necessary, the task says clearly what happened and who must act. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an agent in a legacy sandbox environment. 2. Make the workspace copy-back fail one time, for example with a dropped transfer or a held merge lock. 3. Open the task. It is blocked behind a repair hold, and new messages wait. **Additional context** Separately, distinct live events can render toasts with the same title and body (for example, two runs of the same agent that both succeed). The toast list showed both, and the desktop app forwards each one as a notification. ## What Changed - `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-managed-runtime.ts`: retry the workspace copy-back up to three times in total, with a 2 s and then a 5 s backoff. A retry occurs only when the failure is `restore_failed` or `restore_lock_timeout` and no host workspace file was written. The merge now marks the first host write in `beforeApply`, which runs under the merge lock before any write. - Unsafe archives, permission failures, and failures after the merge started writing are never retried. Each retry uses a new temp directory and a new imported Git ref. - New optional `workspaceRestoreRetryDelaysMs` input, so tests can shorten the backoff. Nested repository restores receive the same value. - `ui/src/components/ExecutionBlockerNotice.tsx`: for a workspace repair hold, the notice now says what happened in plain language. The stored operator runbook text moves under "Technical details". - `ui/src/context/ToastContext.tsx`: also dedupe toasts on their visible tone, title, and body inside the existing 3.5 s window. - `doc/workspace-restore-locks.md`: document the automatic retry. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec vitest run src/sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts src/workspace-restore` (218 tests pass). New tests cover: - a retry after a dropped transfer, - a retry after a merge-lock timeout, - a stop after three attempts, - no retry for an unsafe archive, a permission failure, or a failure after the merge started writing. - The existing step-diagnostic test now uses failures that persist across retries. It still expects one diagnostic per failed step. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/context/ToastContext.test.tsx src/components/ExecutionBlockerNotice.test.tsx src/context/LiveUpdatesProvider` (120 tests pass). - `tsc --noEmit` for adapter-utils passes. `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs` is clean. - Not fully run: the full adapter-utils suite has two failures in `github-launcher*.test.ts`. They read the managed GitHub credentials of the local sandbox environment and do not touch restore code. UI `tsc -b` reports five errors in `PluginOrganizationSwitcher.tsx`, which is not changed here, because the plugin SDK is not built in a fresh install. ## Risks - A copy-back that fails before the merge can take about 7 s longer before it reports a failure. Lock timeouts can take up to about 97 s in total (three 30 s lock waits plus backoff). Settlement already waits for the copy-back. - The retry logic depends on `beforeApply` running before the first host write in `mergeDirectoryWithBaseline`. That is true today, and a comment marks it. - A Git bundle import before the merge can leave unreferenced Git objects after a retry. They are harmless, and the existing ref cleanup still runs on each attempt. - Content-based toast dedupe can hide a second toast with identical text inside 3.5 s. That is the intended behavior. ## Model Used - Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`, Anthropic) in the Claude Agent SDK, with tool use (shell, file edit, code search) and a subagent for code exploration. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip Agent <agent@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(opencode-local): preserve deadlines in Daytona process sessions (#15905)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work done by AI agents. > - The OpenCode adapter can run its CLI in a provider sandbox. > - A long CLI run must remain observable until it exits or the host stops it. > - The legacy main command does not request a provider process session. A launch without an active run step uses one synchronous command request. > - That request can lose its response before the resolved execution budget ends. > - This PR requests the existing asynchronous session path for the main Daytona OpenCode command. It also carries the resolved command deadline through the host and provider contracts. The host still applies the effective capability gate. > - The change removes that synchronous request from eligible sandbox runs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related reporting fix: #15789. A search of open and closed GitHub issues and PRs found no duplicate transport fix. **What happened?** A hosted Linux legacy OpenCode run retained a gateway-timeout response about one hour after CLI startup. It had a four-hour resolved budget and recent agent output. The earlier reporting fix correctly kept the configured policy separate from the timeout message. The original response owner and specific timer were not retained, so this PR does not claim to prove that provider cause. **Expected behavior** A Daytona target that supports persistent process sessions should dispatch the long agent command asynchronously. Paperclip should observe its output and exit through the existing session path. A single command HTTP request should not need to stay open for the full agent run. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Use legacy OpenCode with a Daytona sandbox target and a four-hour execution budget. 2. Launch outside an active measured step. The current main CLI call does not request a persistent process session. 3. In the SDK fixture, make the synchronous command request return a provider timeout before the budget ends. Keep the asynchronous session healthy for more than one hour. 4. The regression tests require session dispatch, incremental output, one command dispatch, a real exit result, and session cleanup. 5. Set a shorter command deadline and stall dispatch, a status read or a log snapshot. The command must return a timeout at its own deadline. Healthy output must not extend that deadline. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed source: `e733bddc45e00efb1819fffa8677f7b0d07802c5`. PR base: `4b59e2a2ecc67e98b336b8eb4c09959681672d54`. **Deployment mode** Hosted Linux server, legacy OpenCode adapter, Daytona sandbox. The host gate retains the old path when a provider cannot keep process sessions. ## What Changed - Add an optional sandbox session choice to the shared process helper. Leave the choice absent for existing callers. - Request that session only at the main Daytona OpenCode CLI invocation. Keep probes, preparation and other providers on their existing paths. - Carry a separate optional command deadline through the shared runner, host service and plugin SDK. Existing session callers can omit it. Zero leaves the command deadline disabled. - Bound dispatch, live output and recovery observations with one command timer. Clear it on settlement. Fence late stream callbacks. Remove deadline listeners after each read and clear interrupted polling waits. Preserve a known exit code if only the final logs time out. A timeout result does not claim that the process stopped. - Add adapter and process-helper regression coverage. Test the existing Daytona session for a virtual run beyond one hour, without command replay, with release cleanup. - Document transport selection and the limits of the timeout evidence. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed on Node 25.6.1 and pnpm 9.15.4 with the command deadline changes. - `pnpm build` passed with the updated contracts. The separately installed Daytona package also passes its own typecheck and build against the pinned SDK 0.203.0 and TypeScript 5.9.3. - Five focused process, adapter, host and provider suites passed all 349 tests. They cover a run beyond one hour, five stalled observation phases, healthy-stream deadlines, zero/absent budgets, late callbacks, session release, SSH and capability fallback. - The real environment-runtime forwarding tests passed: 19 selected tests, including the separate command budget and forced session flag in the worker RPC. - An earlier full local `pnpm test:run` began before a clean build and overlapped the correction. That mixed-version run was stopped and is not passing evidence. After the build, the two previously uncollected suites pass (1,659 tests). Two unchanged workspace fixtures fail with this machine's Git default branch `main`; both pass with a test-process-only `master` override. One unchanged native recovery fixture fails on both this branch and an independently installed and built checkout of base `4b59e2a2ecc67e98b336b8eb4c09959681672d54`, with the same terminal-result mismatch. It is not introduced by this change. The full local suite is not claimed green. These limitations do not replace fresh hosted CI. - Final head `8e96638cdef8ca6e91f7a42a52c83a075180c137` passes all hosted checks: 54 passed and 2 expected Storybook skips. Greptile reviewed this exact head at 18:12 UTC and scored it 5/5. Both actionable findings are fixed and resolved. GitHub reports no conflicts and a clean merge state. Earlier-head results are not used as final-head proof. - The standalone provider test command passes 373 tests, with 14 expected live-probe skips. - SDK tests use a controlled virtual clock. No live provider experiment, task replay, manual deployment, or public PR merge was performed. ## Risks The main legacy OpenCode command uses Daytona's existing session route when the effective capability gate permits it. A quiet log stream can use the existing status and snapshot fallback. Those observations add provider reads. The new optional command budget is separate from each read's timeout and returns a timeout without the host RPC's extra 30-second allowance. Existing session callers that omit it keep their previous lifetime. Callback bridge control commands retain their explicit session bypass. The capability gate retains the previous path for unsupported targets. Other providers, local and SSH execution keep their existing path. Retry policy, Stop acknowledgement and lease ownership rules stay the same. The SDK exposes no cancellation handle for an abandoned stream; existing Stop and lease teardown still own command termination. This fix does not establish the original gateway owner or prove recovery in a live environment. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools and code execution. The exact backend identifier and context window size are not exposed by this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (changed paths; the independently reproduced local baseline failure is documented above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

test(adapter-utils): publish bridge queue fixtures atomically (#15792)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Remote agents send API requests through a callback bridge queue. > - Queue readers reserve memory from each published file's measured size. > - Several tests wrote directly into visible queue files while the reader was active. > - A reader could measure an empty file and then reject its completed contents with HTTP 503. > - This pull request makes those fixtures use the existing atomic publisher and proves the race without timing guesses. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The public readiness run [38035333062](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38035333062) failed the schema-discovery bridge test. It expected HTTP 200 but received 503. The same test logged `Bridge envelope exceeded the configured size limit.` The fixture wrote requests directly to visible `.json` files. If a writer completed between the reader's size measurement and bounded read, the reader correctly rejected the changed file. The production gateway and filesystem queue client already publish complete files by renaming a temporary file. **Expected behavior** Queue fixtures must publish requests with the same atomic contract as the production writer. Schema assertions must observe completed responses. The runtime must still reject a request that grows beyond the size reserved for its read. **Steps to reproduce** Create an empty visible request file. Have the worker measure its size. Complete the write before the bounded read. The new deterministic regression produces the exact error and HTTP 503, with no handler dispatch. A separate publication test polls during an incomplete write and verifies that the real atomic writer keeps it invisible. **Paperclip version or commit** The failing run used `de042e79efbb7bb88e9716835407882e3ebab188`. The same fixture and reader are present in the base of this PR, `7e10dbe652ef0104f0a688a196fe8ea47b6f4b8e`. **Deployment mode** Local filesystem fixtures in the adapter-utils readiness tests. No external provider is required. Related PRs #15003 and #15696 address shutdown listing and idle polling. This is a separate fixture-publication race. This PR does not adopt or change their runtime work. ## What Changed - Use the existing filesystem queue client's atomic publisher at seven live-worker publication sites in five tests. - Wait for all seven schema responses within the existing single five-second bound, then assert the GET response and all six denials. Worker shutdown remains cleanup for that test. - Add a deterministic incomplete-write publication regression and a real worker regression for the bounded reader's existing HTTP 503 recovery. - Keep intentional malformed fixtures, dedicated drain assertions, runtime limits and runtime source unchanged. Test comments explain the publication contract; no product documentation changes are needed. ## Verification - Full bridge file: 68/68 tests passed on Node 25.6.1. - Seven focused publication, schema, authorization, drain and recovery cases passed. - Negative control: replacing the fixture helper with a direct write makes the publication test fail in milliseconds with the exact bounded-reader error. Restoring atomic publication passes. - Broader adapter-utils run: 1,690 passed, 12 skipped, one unchanged GitHub-launcher identity test exceeded its existing five-second limit. That exact case passed unchanged in isolation. This is not claimed as a full aggregate pass; no timeout or launcher source was changed. - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - Independent review passed all 68 bridge tests and adapter-utils typecheck, plus three negative controls: both forms of direct publication fail, and removing the bounded read fails the expected-503 regression. The original source was restored and targeted positives passed again. - Hosted [CI 38038772400](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38038772400) passed at `aa4bcd8c1729e8ce098f2eb0143502ab34237d01`, including the full workspaces-b suite that originally failed. The PR has 53 successful checks and two expected Storybook skips. - Greptile scored that same commit 5/5; independent source review is approved, no review threads remain open, and GitHub reports no merge conflicts. ## Risks This change only affects tests. The new filesystem spy is limited to its own temporary directory and is restored in `finally`. A producer regression must still fail the publication test. The schema test retains all authorization checks and a single five-second response bound. The bridge's size limits, failure recovery, request handling and shutdown policy are unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools and independent agent review. The exact service model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(voice): add experimental Speko task connection runtime (#15727)
First PR: runtime. UI: #15728. Qualification: #15729.
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip manages agent work through tasks and governed connections.
> - Chat connections already bind external conversations to those tasks.
> - Speko handles voice and telephony, while the selected Paperclip
agent does the work.
> - A call needs durable session authority, ordered follow-ups, and safe
result delivery.
> - This PR adds an explicit voice transport to the existing connection
runtime.
> - The UI and qualification suites follow in linked PRs. Speko stays
experimental.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Problem or motivation**
Phone and browser voice conversations cannot use the chat connection
task lifecycle. A separate voice runtime is needed to preserve task
authority, retries, and reply history.
**Proposed solution**
Add company-scoped voice sessions, signed callbacks, durable replies,
inbound intake, and an agent-facing outbound-call tool. Reuse existing
tasks, queues, secrets, and publications.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the experimental chat connector entry points under Agent
Chat and Connected Apps. The project owner requested this feature.
Refs #11418 for the original provider catalog proposal. This
implementation uses the newer chat connection infrastructure rather than
an MCP catalog-only integration. Refs #15721 for remote OpenCode
startup.
## What Changed
- Add additive voice schema, shared contracts, session APIs, and
provider callbacks.
- Bind browser, inbound, and outbound sessions to an endpoint, task, and
selected agent.
- Add low-trust guest intake in an explicitly selected sandbox and keep
ordinary approval rules.
- Submit task work through session-scoped tools and push approved
replies through Speko POST /v1/calls/{id}/messages.
- Distinguish provider acceptance from confirmed spoken playback.
Reconcile reports without downloading recordings.
- Add protocol, migration, persistence, provider, and
delivery-diagnostic tests.
## Verification
- Master

feat(connections): simplify dedicated GitHub App setup (#15416)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent work and the tools each agent can use. > - GitHub bots need their own App identity and restricted repository access. > - Manual App configuration and repeated setup gates make that connection hard to finish. > - GitHub can create an App from a manifest, but people must approve creation and repository access. > - Each Paperclip stack should own configuration, credentials, signature verification, and task admission. > - This change uses Cloud as an encrypted callback and event gateway, then completes setup in the stack. > - GitHub review bots have their own experimental setting. Chat connector opt-in does not control them. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Dedicated GitHub App setup, bot settings, and task-scoped GitHub replies. **Current behavior** Users must configure an App, copy credentials, repeat repository selection, and complete manual verification gates. Review settings are hard to scan. Mentions in descriptions can be missed, and automatic completion text can produce an extra GitHub comment. **Proposed behavior** Choose an agent and connect GitHub under a personal account or organization. GitHub asks for creation and installation consent. Paperclip resumes the same draft, stores secrets locally, imports access, verifies delivery, and opens Settings. Each accepted request has one editable App-owned comment for progress and results. Review assessments produce deterministic checks for the reviewed commit. **Breaking changes** GitHub bots require their own default-off experimental opt-in. The setup-method and delegated-agent screens are removed. Per-person automatic-run flags remain readable but are replaced by author filters. Existing connections, direct webhooks, saved restrictions, and manual existing-App recovery remain supported. Companion gateway: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/688 (merged). The roadmap and related PRs were checked; no duplicate dedicated-App wizard was found. ## What Changed - Add an independent **GitHub review bots** setting across the catalog, routes, identity admission, and task controls. Existing bots continue running when the UI setting is off. - Replace setup with Choose agent and Connect GitHub. Support personal and organization owners, inline low-trust conversion, saved drafts, known organization suggestions, automatic completion, and same-App recovery. - Keep manifests, OAuth PKCE, credential exchange, vault storage, installation verification, and original webhook-signature validation in the stack. Use the Cloud sealed gateway for public callbacks and outbound local delivery. - Add resumable owner metadata in migration 0323. Retry a failed registration renewal through the same durable replacement rather than creating another App route. - Support authorized mentions in issue and PR bodies, comments, inline comments, and review summaries. Preserve attachments, edited-source identity, duplicate protection, and lifecycle invalidation. Filter requests explicitly addressed to another connected bot. - Give agents task-scoped review, comment, and update tools. Update one working comment through progress and final output. Close coalesced requests and recover delayed acknowledgements, including deleted earlier working comments. Preserve automatic replies for legacy connections without saved review configuration. Preserve partial publication evidence and quarantine uncertain automatic fallbacks without blocking Board messages or questions. - Reorganize Settings and Access with rich slash-skill instructions, numeric passing scores, clear automation controls, formal-review tooltips, member and contributor sections, and verified App branding links. Preserve invalid score drafts and automation choices across tabs. - Paginate repositories in 20-row batches with search and a true connection-wide toggle. Batch verification at GitHub's 500-ID token limit. Keep saved repository overrides while hiding their editor. - Give each review a detail URL that remains usable beyond the newest 100 records. Synchronize the manager OpenAPI contracts and add recovery, authorization, UI, and browser regressions. - Reconcile the current master branch and retain its agent avatar, feature catalog, and extracted heartbeat preparation code. Preserve a saved test-drive port and recover from an occupied high port. ## Verification - Focused UI, independent experimental-setting, and CLI tests: 199 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. The broad local Vitest attempt was interrupted after resource timeouts and stale expectations; the affected regressions passed focused reruns. The latest-head full CI matrix passed, including all browser shards, server/chat suites, builds, typechecking, canary packaging, and Docker context integrity. A Docker Hub 429 required a CI retry; it passed without changing the code. - Final review repairs: 127 attachment/event tests and server typecheck passed. All 13 final integration regressions passed under the normal CI timeout, covering legacy reply compatibility, deleted coalesced comments, inline-only review completion, progress edits, and native final recovery. Restart-safe description/review attachments passed the attachment suite. - Final regressions: four reply/lifecycle tests, both native GitHub wait tests, 171 feature-gate/reply-contract tests, the routed review preview, and five scheduler/reply regressions passed. The final fixture repair also passed all six setup-continuation cases and all three complete chat-test shards in CI, covering terminal receipts and retries under the normal CI timeout. One loaded-host receipt run exceeded its local timeout; the exact case passed in an isolated rerun and the complete CI shard. - GitHub integration tests cover personal and organization setup, retry recovery, edited mentions, attachment provenance, coalesced requests, delayed acknowledgements, partial review writes, old review URLs, and company boundaries. - Browser qualification: both GitHub journeys, all five provider setup/management journeys, and the GitHub uncertain-send recovery journey passed. GitHub setup, reconnect, and task replies run with chat disabled; chat enabled alone cannot expose GitHub bots. The disposable qualification database was removed after testing. - Earlier live qualification verified App-owned issue replies, native slash-skill invocation, progress comment edits, and a 5/5 PR review with a passing current-head check in the dedicated permissions-smoke repository. These live checks did not use personal credentials as bot execution authority. ## Risks - Deploy the merged Cloud gateway protocol before the stack update. Each callback and encrypted event must retain the original instance and tenant binding. - Migration 0323 uses idempotent column additions for test installations that already applied the earlier draft migration number. - A verified connection does not prove runtime isolation or a completed review. Runtime checks remain separate. - Required merge checks must be configured in GitHub. A passing numeric score does not formally approve a PR; approval and request-changes tools remain opt-in. - Existing-App credentials cannot silently renew an uncertain manifest exchange. Recovery preserves the existing App, draft, connection, and agent. - Repository changes save immediately. Global toggles affect all currently available repositories, including unloaded rows, without granting new installation access. - A failed or uncertain tool write suppresses automatic fallback text; the governed outbox retains its evidence. Deleted or replaced response comments are not recreated through a personal credential fallback. - GitHub logo upload remains an optional human action in GitHub App settings. Runtime provisioning, delegated setup, screenshot publication, and production push delivery remain deferred. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with tool use and code execution. The exact runtime model identifier and context size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused suites; complete test matrix is checked in CI) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: integrate Pi 1.0 into the experimental Runner (#14921)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - The experimental Runner owns provider processes and durable sessions. > - Pi needs working task execution and human controls. > - The five-PR stack must preserve changes already on master. > - Each layer now carries the complete integrated source for a safe sequential fallback. > - This PR belongs to native GitHub stack #15602, ending at #14956. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14436, #14631, #14743 and #14956. Ship Pi 1.0 through the experimental Paperclip Runner. The five PRs are #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924 and #14956. The user authorized the complete merge after checks pass. Existing `pi_local` execution is unchanged. Accounting and wider provider/platform qualification remain deferred. ## What Changed - Recover missing final replies after workspace finalization changes owners, using accepted-turn evidence without rerunning work or granting external-chat publication. - Preserve the admitted Pi instruction root across warm runs, while retaining changed-root rejection. - Give Pi a bounded 15-second default shutdown grace so stop, drain acknowledgement and durable suspension can complete. Explicit deadlines and other providers retain their existing behavior. - Integrate the Pi 1.0 runtime and master contracts. - Use Pi profile 22. Preserve explicit caller-selected models and exact native thinking levels. Keep Pi's wrapper, helper, extension and question/control behavior unchanged from the qualified profile-19 runtime. - Preserve master's Dot lifecycle and consent fields, configured task environment, status guards and current Codex/Claude dependency versions. Cursor stays qualified. Copilot stays pending; profile 17 binds the changed shared protocol validation sources. - Exclude general AWS IAM credentials from Pi static/custom provider bindings and selected task projections; preserve the provider-scoped Bedrock bearer key. Profile 21 is retained as historical provenance. Rust and cloud install probes use the current declaration. - Patch bundled brace-expansion 5.0.9 to the exact official 5.0.12 payload. Pin the patch and complete runtime closures. Include the patch in normal installed setup tooling. Keep the upstream Pi shrinkwrap as provenance and permit only this exact security correction. - Include current attestation files in the Docker build context. Keep the repository lockfile unchanged from master. CI and private image builds resolve manifest changes before their frozen installation. ## Verification - Full local `pnpm -r typecheck` passes, including Runner Rust, server and UI. Focused integration checks pass: 194 Runner admission/environment tests, 63 profile/credential tests with one expected skip, 152 Dot/UI configuration tests, and Pi transcript/notice tests. - Full local `pnpm build` passes on the final source. - Fresh final-source checks pass: all 698 Rust workspace tests (32 binaries), 156 credential/profile/controller tests with one expected skip, Runner TypeScript typecheck, and 20 package/setup/sandbox tests. - The profile-21 Pi materializer passes on the native host with the official pinned Node 24.21.0 and its npm. It verifies all 150 locked packages, the patched dependency and the exact closure. Setup/package bundle tests and UI token gates pass. - The old hashes were reproduced for all three supported targets before calculating the patched graph. New closure hashes are darwin-arm64 `282022db10150c6632b3444df421342e7d534bdf5d5fb1097a2e79d0625a2bcf`, darwin-x64 `64e251e19009f755c0b04f73ce2138246faab71a961b0f13d75ebfcc34bef12e`, and linux-x64 `713b1fdff42fb56a1518bdc084f181d70bee8ebadc3e4b1d76321ed9108c8410`. Independent native platform execution is separate from graph identity reproduction. - Historical cloud qualification remains unchanged: all seven core cases pass on shipping source `10dc43c9ec65d88c2f782d62afb296d09494f215`, harness `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`, image `sha256:5b3a775b383591bda1b0c1889e509acc70ce7f37c53f09733c81d59037f02280`, and accepted Sonnet 4.6/low fixture. All 215 canonical files and all seven cleanup checks pass independent verification. These are profile-19 results and are not relabeled as fresh profile-22 runs. - Current Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [The readiness plan](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/pi-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-02-pi-production-readiness.md) preserves campaign and failed-attempt provenance. - Merge only after every PR's current-head CI and fresh review pass. Linux CI covers the full suites, build and browser tests. The local embedded Postgres API-authority suite cannot start on this macOS/Node 26 host, so Linux CI must confirm that suite. ### Fresh profile-22 core qualification — 2026-10-08 All seven accepted core cases pass canonically on Pi profile 22, with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. This model is a fixture; production accepts the caller's explicit Pi provider/model. Runtime/install source: `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401`. Frozen accepted harness: `1a4408a48cfb5a1f094a311141c257c92cd7a893`. Immutable cloud image: `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:506f22db7edd78f37c0c40bec1cc084af1850455026dbf467194bfbb8fcef141`. Pi digest: `sha256:e92078bee3c23bec4100aa589013a44613d054cd686826534025d8019e9f39a9`. [Hosted Linux image and clean-install verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868328023) passes, including all 20 source-bound archives, normal CLI/Pi setup, companion import and the production pack reader. This exact installation source includes the latest master integration and the corrected Pi warm instruction-root fence. Full local typecheck/build and current-head hosted CI verify the final stack. All 13 focused real-root regressions pass. The full local executor suite passed 662 tests; 15 database tests could not start the Mac embedded PostgreSQL service. Hosted Linux CI passes the full required verification and E2E checks. These fresh results keep their own source identity; profile-19 results remain historical. | Core path | Canonical campaign | Retained archive SHA-256 | | --- | --- | --- | | File edit, validation, download and Done | `pi-core22-replyfix-0-1791511228` | 23 files; `a473e8603a3dd4737863291f8d3d1e392391f0b16d433c3e0e0e9d8baf7a97b0` | | Pending question and controller restart | `pi-core22-replyfix-1-1791511376` | 33 files; `6b829c4eb74e1f32a89c692a4ae7130dbfc1c6d3cf13915effe2103d9e242c8e` | | Three-turn session/process/workspace continuity | `pi-core22-replyfix-2-1791511587` | 23 files; `7a87021f8f9a3fdd3c58bb4467f8d82c635e3ea4795d6e75f144d9aa14818df8` | | Four typed questions and browser reconnects | `pi-core22-replyfix-3-1791511881` | 42 files; `9e31755252be1f4f9cb0626c984c142d4d1ae5f5bee3a7af08444db8d12c280a` | | Plan approval and completion | `pi-core22-replyfix-4-1791512031` | 22 files; `a0383ce1aab38e7b5a25ce0e9dd3bebea5c037ebd96ae6b29dae19015da2ae2c` | | Same-turn steering and permission denial | `pi-core22-replyfix-5-1791512261` | 39 files; `c929b8c7070f0b66aedc17e65ca46e6beab1e363926ac9f7e2a75fb250f05949` | | Stop during pending permission | `pi-core22-replyfix-6-1791512390` | 33 files; `7f0a58ae0f4d5bfc76149435f4e322537089c5bd16e7ffe9b5ad71f10a621a07` | All 215 canonical files (28714587 bytes) are independently hash-verified. All seven cleanup grades pass, with no owned runtime process or temporary root after each case. Automatic retries are zero. The owned cloud host stopped normally after retention. The prior profile-22 warm attempt remains failed and separately retained: archive SHA-256 `1e54eba5ec72b50cee1534b23d1d1d4f21a090006b8a64501ba70db972abfde5`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Diagnosis reproduced a product bug comparing an agent-files root against an unset checkpoint-only field. The fix stores the admitted physical root separately from the adopted per-run collection capability. The real-root regression fails before the fix and passes afterward, including rejection of a changed physical root. Fixture, grader, model and all seven accepted case IDs are unchanged; this fresh campaign tests final-reply publication after file registration first. The intermediate restart attempt also remains failed and retained: archive SHA-256 `5dcaefdf1d17cf4cd54fd4cf810f45e736667392339b8ce7caf08bb4e225277f`. Its original canonical classification is preserved. Pi resumed, wrote the verified answer and completed its task; exact runner suspension was proven, but idle stop consumed about 5.2s and left under 3s for the drain acknowledgement. The Pi-only default shutdown grace is now 15s, preserving a full 5s drain round trip and a finite suspension reserve. Explicit caller deadlines, other provider defaults, literal drain receipts and exact suspension identity checks remain unchanged. The timing regression fails before this correction and passes afterward; all 18 focused settlement tests and Runner typecheck pass. The final-source file attempt is also preserved as failed (`candidate_failure`), archive SHA-256 `db6767b6773ea618997927ac77bdb005a5ac81492c7b9c0ffbc900449f829bc9`. Native edit, validation, exact downloadable artifact and Done/succeeded all passed, and the exact final reply was durably recorded. A workspace recovery owner completed before the live heartbeat reached presentation, leaving that reply absent from task chat. Recovery now materializes only a completed final reply from the accepted turn of an ordinary internal Done task, preserving issue/run/contract binding, suppression, external-chat authorization and same-run deduplication. The database regression covers the generated file-preparation receipt, suppression, unapproved external continuation and replay. Server typecheck and all 49 response-selection tests pass; hosted Linux verifies the database regression because embedded PostgreSQL cannot start on this Mac. The delayed-final-answer database regression passes on [the final root-source Linux server shard](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37868262553/job/113628594152), alongside 1,108 passing tests. The first root Runner shard had one unchanged durable-resume test exceed its 5-second timeout; the identical top-source shard and the isolated exact test passed. One rerun of that failed job and its required aggregate passed without source or test changes. The original failed job log and the single-rerun receipt remain retained. ### October 9 merge verification Current merge head: `5a8fe63512a7166aaef5cf50065a25008aa8b44b`. All current-head checks pass, including `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`; exact-head Greptile review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Current master conflicts are resolved. The user authorized the maintainer override of the code-owner review gate after these checks. The seven retained live core cases remain bound to source `3241a992f2a7703e59e97ed0fd3e5d6405de4401` and its recorded cloud image. ## Risks - The security correction changes the dependency closure and profile identity. Old sessions must reopen on the new profile. Exact identities and credential bindings fail closed. - The runner remains experimental and requires explicit selection. Legacy Pi Local is unchanged. Caller model IDs pass through; the E2E model is a fixture. - Accounting and the broad platform/provider matrix remain deferred. This merge does not publish a release or deploy a service. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted with reasoning, repository inspection, editing and tool use. The exact serving ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Final live qualification uses Pi 1.0.0 with `openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` and native-confirmed low thinking. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: retain bounded workspace transfer failure evidence (#15637)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and the work they produce. > - Sandbox work must return to the host when an agent run ends. > - A failed transfer must keep its source available for recovery. > - Some transfer errors lose their useful fields before restore diagnostics reach Sentry. > - This change records fixed transfer stages, failure kinds, and numeric RPC codes. > - The next failure can identify the operation that failed without exposing workspace contents. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A workspace transfer can fail after model execution succeeds. Several command, archive validation, and download errors become plain errors. The existing RPC envelope then reports `unknown`, with no transfer stage or command exit code. A host RPC timeout also loses its code from restore diagnostics. **Expected behavior** Keep bounded evidence through the provider, worker RPC, restore result, and Sentry context. Keep the same exception, error message, retry rules, and source retention policy. A transfer timeout must remain separate from the model execution timeout flag. **Steps to reproduce** Return a nonzero exit code from the sandbox archive command, return a per-file download error, exceed a tar listing limit, or time out the sync-out RPC. Observe the missing fields in the saved restore diagnostic. The added tests use local fixtures for these cases. Related public work: #15479 preserves the source after restore failure. #15481 carries bounded sync-out diagnostics through RPC. This change supplies missing producer evidence and extends that same envelope. I checked the roadmap and searched open PRs for duplicate transfer diagnostic work. ## What Changed - Add optional transfer stage and failure kind fields to the existing diagnostic envelope. Capture command exits and listing deadlines at their producers. - Record only known codes from typed RPC errors at the sync-out boundary. Revalidate every field before persistence and Sentry projection. - Keep annotations private to each outbound request and restore settlement. Preserve frozen error identity and prevent evidence from leaking across concurrent or later calls. - Document the fields. Cover producer failures, quota limits, old workers, concurrent error reuse, and redaction through the real Sentry SDK. ## Verification - Focused SDK, provider, host, persistence, and real Sentry tests: 449 passed, no skips. Independent review also ran the focused contracts and all provider tests. The optional Sentry SDK is required for this check, so the contract tests cannot skip. - A compiled Daytona transfer and compiled SDK worker pass a local RPC round trip. This uses the development TypeScript loader for workspace dependency exports. The transfer and capture modules are compiled JavaScript. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. The excluded Daytona package also passed `tsc --noEmit`. - The initial local `pnpm test:run` stopped in the general-server group: 60 suites could not initialize embedded PostgreSQL because the isolated install skipped its Darwin library-link setup. The existing package postinstall repairs this; `initdb --version` now passes. All 60 affected suites then passed: 1,342 tests, no skips. No local full aggregate pass is claimed. - Independent source review covers privacy, concurrency, packaging, and recovery behavior. ## Risks - These diagnostics help identify future failures. They do not establish or repair the cause of a past transfer failure. - New fields are optional. Older workers remain compatible. Unknown values are omitted. - The change adds a small request-local diagnostic scope. It keeps the original thrown errors, archive confinement, cleanup order, timeout values, retry count, and source retention policy. - No schema or deployment changes are required. No live provider actions are part of validation. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository inspection, code execution, and independent agent review. The exact deployed model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(skills): honor the current run harness checkout (#15548)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages work for AI agents. > - The runtime claims eligible assigned tasks before it starts an agent. > - The wake tells the agent when the runtime already holds that claim. > - The legacy skill still requires another checkout in every case. > - This PR makes the skill honor the current task and run claim. > - Manual checkout and server ownership checks remain in place for other cases. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Where is the issue?** `skills/paperclip/SKILL.md`, in the scoped wake procedure and Step 5. **What's wrong?** The wake can say that the harness already checked out the issue. The skill still tells the agent that it must call checkout. These instructions conflict. **Suggested fix** Skip the second checkout only when the runtime wake explicitly confirms the claim for this issue and run. Retain manual checkout when that statement is absent or the agent selects another task. Refs #14948 for the existing shared prompt reduction. ## What Changed - Honor the explicit runtime claim in the scoped wake procedure and Step 5. - Keep context reads, status writes, deliverable handling and conflict rules. - Add checks for normal and resumed wake text and excluded automatic claims. - Retain successful checkout HTTP activity for legacy stock-task evals. Bind each receipt to the exact company, task, agent and run. Keep this observation separate from the original task grades. ## Verification - Checkout observation calibration: nine tests pass. - Focused skill, wake and database ownership tests: in progress. - Full repository build, typecheck and tests: in progress. - Planned live comparison: the existing assigned-skill document case on legacy Codex and Claude. One attempt per variant and profile. No automatic retries. The baseline and candidate share the observation code and task oracle. - Live results are pending. This draft does not claim behavioral qualification. ## Risks - Agents may misread prompt guidance. The API still enforces ownership; the text grants no new authority. - The exception is specific to the current issue and run. It does not remove ordinary legacy completion writes or authorize another task. - Activity measures successful checkout HTTP calls. Failed attempts require separate run-log inspection. Missing or mismatched observations cannot count as zero calls. - One trial per profile cannot establish general reliability, speed or cost trends. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model build and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell tools and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: automate Slack bot app setup and installation (#15413)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat connectors give each agent a customer-owned bot and task-backed conversations. > - Manual Slack setup requires app creation and copying durable credentials. > - Operators need a shorter setup that an assisting agent can use safely. > - This pull request creates the app through Slack's Manifest API and installs it through OAuth. > - Durable registration state supports recovery without creating another app. > - A four-screen wizard, automatic avatar upload, and OAuth account linking reduce setup work. > - Connector settings and per-turn tool guidance support daily use after installation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Native Slack bot setup, company secret storage, chat connector management, and agent tool guidance. **Problem or motivation** New Slack bots require manual app creation and copying a signing secret and bot token. Interrupted setup can create duplicate apps. The setup and management screens contain unnecessary controls. Agents also need guidance for native questions, files, thread replies, and governed Slack actions. **Proposed solution** Use a temporary app-configuration access token to create a customer-owned app. Save durable secrets in the vault. Bind OAuth to the initiating actor, company, endpoint, registration revision, scopes, and configured origins. Preserve manual and existing-app recovery. Link the installing user's account, send a welcome DM, and advance from saved server evidence. Keep request-URL recovery instructions available if automatic connection detection waits. **Alternatives considered** The Slack CLI adds installation requirements. Socket Mode changes transport. A shared Paperclip-owned app changes app ownership. These alternatives are outside this change. **Roadmap alignment** This extends existing chat connectors and secrets capabilities. Related public work: #14037 and #13954 cover Slack MCP prerequisites and user OAuth. No duplicate bot-registration PR was found. ## What Changed - Share one reviewed manifest builder between automatic registration and manual setup. - Add replay-safe migration 0318 and company-bound registration state with vault references and uncertain-creation recovery. - Add registration, installation, callback, and resume APIs with short-lived, single-use OAuth state. - Save installation credentials before downstream checks and preserve bot identity constraints. - Reduce automatic setup to four screens. Keep advanced app details, manual recovery, and existing-app setup. - Upload the agent avatar with the Paperclip dark background. Link the OAuth installer's account and send setup DMs. - Show agent and connector-owner avatars. Simplify settings, access, and conversation screens. - Discover joined Slack channels and enable them by default. Start a task from a bare mention and admit same-thread follow-ups. - Refresh Slack tool guidance each turn. Add native-form, file, approval, and delivery regressions plus manual model probe definitions and sanitized acceptance records. - Update deployment/database docs, OpenAPI, redaction, removal cleanup, production Storybook stories, and provider browser tests. - Merge current master and move the registration migration after its latest migration without rewriting published commits. The completed Slack success view intentionally has a single centered **Done** action and no **Save & exit**, as explicitly requested by the product owner. `DESIGN.md` records this exception; unfinished setup steps retain the aligned wizard footer. ## Verification - Passed after the master merge: repository typecheck, full build, Storybook build, design-token gates, module-boundary gates, and migration generation. - Passed: all 352 focused Slack deterministic tests and all 14 affected provider browser tests. Browser tests use controlled provider fixtures and a separate throwaway instance. - Passed on current head `c5d01e0e2`: the complete GitHub test matrix (general server, chat, all workspaces, serialized server, and Runner), all eight browser shards, typecheck/release registry, build, canary dry run, security checks, and policy gates. There are 52 passing checks and no pending or failing checks. - Greptile completed on the exact current head with 5/5 and no actionable findings or open review threads. - Local repair verification passed 93 focused tests, including same-app reinstall after revocation and rejection of consent started before revocation, the AgentMail browser journey, and repository typecheck. Local build and Storybook build also passed. The redundant local full-suite rerun was stopped after the complete current-head CI matrix passed. - Real Slack setup and agent replies were exercised in the authorized isolated test drive during the setup iteration. - The ten additional model probes were attempted with legacy `codex_local`, `gpt-5.6-sol`: five passed, two failed, and three were partly verified. Native runtime is not qualified. See `server/src/services/connectors/slack/evals/2026-10-08-acceptance.md` for evidence and limits. - Passing model probes cover native forms, downloaded file bytes, bare mentions with thread replies, explicit posts/reactions, and saved approval denial. - The controlled uncertain-write probe found wrong delivery-check IDs. The canvas fallback attempt used an invented tool name. Search pagination/native search, a private-source denied-tool receipt, and distinct board/webhook origins remain unqualified. Reviewer path: enable Chat connectors, start Slack chat setup, select an agent, enter an app-configuration access token, and approve Slack installation. Send a message to the bot and confirm that setup advances to success. Inspect settings and allowed channels. See `doc/connections/SLACK-AUTOMATIC-SETUP.md` for deployment and recovery. ## Risks - Slack app creation has no provider idempotency guarantee. A timeout after dispatch stays uncertain until the operator checks Slack. - OAuth needs a stable public HTTPS board origin. Webhook ingress may use a separate configured HTTPS origin. Workspace policy can delay installation. - Migration 0318 can replay safely on instances that applied the earlier development migration. - OAuth installation now links the installer to the initiating Paperclip user. Identity checks and company access rules still apply. - Joined channels now enable bot responses by default. Linked-user authorization and per-action approval rules still apply. - Model behavior has the documented delivery-check and canvas fallback failures. A passing CI run does not establish that every model probe passed. - Removing the connection does not delete the customer's Slack app. No new first-party telemetry is added. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The runtime does not expose a more specific authoring model ID or context-window size. The live bot probes used OpenAI `gpt-5.6-sol` through `codex_local` in legacy mode. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add experimental OpenAI Dot provider over MCP Events (#15402)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents, tasks, permissions, and execution budgets. > - Paperclip Runner gives each provider the same admitted task and tool authority. > - OpenAI Dot runs outside the local process tree and needs asynchronous work delivery. > - The merged MCP gateway supplies OAuth consent and signed event delivery. > - A personal assistant grant cannot safely stand in for an assigned agent. > - This pull request adds a separate Dot agent connection and a durable Rust Runner bridge. > - The operator can assign work to Dot and inspect its accepted work, tool receipts, and result. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** OpenAI Dot, as an experimental provider of the existing Paperclip Runner adapter. **Why this adapter is useful** An operator can assign normal Paperclip tasks to an existing Dot. Dot can read its mailbox, request work on an assigned task, use admitted task tools, and submit a result. Paperclip keeps company scope, checkout, approvals, known budget limits, and activity attribution. **How the agent is invoked** A dedicated `/mcp/runner` OAuth resource pairs one Dot grant with one agent. A signed MCP mailbox event wakes Dot. Dot explicitly accepts the assignment. The Rust Runner owns the durable turn and operation receipts. The first release supports self-hosted instances with a local Runner controller. **Additional context** This extends the merged public MCP gateway from #14846 and the assistant invitation and device-consent work from #14933. This also integrates the merged assistant tool and configuration expansion in #15380. Dot retains its dedicated agent resource and cannot receive personal configuration permission. The public assistant connection remains a personal connection. ## What Changed - Add a durable Rust Dot provider and its TypeScript Runner driver. - Add closed PRP v3 external-provider operations and native execution input v6. - Add company-scoped pairing, mailbox, assignment, and operation records. - Reuse merged browser/device consent, client metadata verification, webhook admissions, refresh, secret rotation, and warm-standby gates. - Keep Dot scopes, issuer, grants, event workers, and tool access separate from personal assistant access. - Add Dot configuration, pairing, readiness, and consent UI. Keep agent grants out of the personal Connections entry. - Regenerate the Dot-only migration after master. Preserve published gateway migrations. Make the new migration safe to reapply. - Document setup, recovery, accounting limits, evidence, and remaining account qualification. - Reverify reconnect callbacks and wake outstanding work with a fresh mailbox reference; preserve the existing assignment and operation receipts. - Clean up Dot bindings and waiting runs on OAuth revoke and refresh-token replay. Old grants cannot revoke replacement bindings. - Restore the pairing reference when an unsaved agent form is reopened; document board-only pairing routes in OpenAPI. - Accept a clean Rust exit after the acknowledged shutdown receipt. Unexpected exits still require recovery. - Clear the cached binding after a successful revoke so a failed connection refresh cannot restore it. - Add production-component Storybook states and screenshots for pairing and connection review. All preview account data is synthetic. - Persist normalized completion, serialize Dot turns and durable work admission, and poll subscription readiness. - Serialize mailbox writes and cursor reads; retain paused fence acknowledgement without task authority. - Authorize admitted review runs without changing the worker assignee. Include the fenced assignment ID in production stop notices. ## Verification - This PR integrates master `4a8178e9c`. Dot migration `0317_messy_famine.sql` follows the published history and is safe to reapply. The merge preserves the reserved migration connection, batch-commit handling, private task checks, task monitors, and native accounting. - Local workspace typecheck, full build, and UI token gates pass. The server typecheck passes after the review fixes. Database and native executor regressions pass. - All twelve real Rust/PostgreSQL Dot integration tests and twelve Dot driver tests pass. The tests cover native document writing and finalization, durable replay, queue admission, mailbox ordering, admitted reviews, stale authority, production stop references, and paused acknowledgements. - Current head `d0e7e0626` passes all 57 checks: 53 pass and four are intentionally skipped. This includes full typecheck, build, tests, Rust Runner verification, browser E2E, release verification, and Canary Dry Run. Greptile rates this exact head 5/5. All review threads are resolved. - The full local root test run is slower than the sharded CI run and has not completed. The full CI test gates pass on the current commit. Focused local regressions pass. - Real-account pairing and event delivery on this base commit remain unqualified. Live account and setup proof are recorded in the follow-up #15414. The following screenshots use synthetic preview data. They show the production pairing component and do not qualify a real account or the full agent setup journey. ## Risks - This base adapter uses `PAPERCLIP_ENABLE_OPENAI_DOT=1` plus Public MCP and Paperclip Runner. The separate experimental-settings follow-up in #15414 replaces this environment flag with saved operator settings. - Dot does not expose provider token usage or cost. The operator must acknowledge external billing. Known Paperclip budget gates still apply. - Cancellation fences Paperclip authority. It does not confirm that Dot stopped all external activity. - Assigned skill files and third-party MCP bindings are unsupported and reject admission. There is no mounted workspace, model selector, or provider thread identifier. - Hosted agent-broker and remote controller deployments are not qualified. - The new migration follows the merged master history. Existing prototype databases still need the normal master migration history before this Dot-only migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact deployment ID and context window size are not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and test inspection. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #123` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub references) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): consolidate Cursor production integration (#15075)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native Runner keeps provider sessions under company authority, approvals, budgets and durable recovery. > - Cursor work was spread across candidate branches. The published branch lacked later plan, permission and cleanup fixes. > - Production also needs public installation and matching runtime assets for local and Daytona execution. > - This pull request consolidates Cursor onto current mainline recovery behavior and completes that installation path. > - The installed v11 release passed focused local and Daytona qualification after the generic mode and lifecycle cleanup. The later model-selection correction and current mainline merge produce v14 artifacts that need matching release qualification. > - Cursor admission is enabled in source; publish only an artifact combination with matching qualification. Native AskQuestion and complete per-run dollar accounting remain excluded. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #14435, #14631, #14669, #14699, #14724. This completes the Cursor implementation by @cryppadotta from combined source `22c78242a4e0c2369fecf0c2dc4e7600fbad6706`. It preserves newer mainline recovery, completion and warm-directory behavior. Pi and Copilot remain gated. ## What Changed - Generate named Rust and TypeScript ACPX release profiles from one manifest. Share runtime pins with packaging and server verification. Preserve vendor runtime versions; bind the updated ACPX patch to Cursor profile v14 and reject stale generated declarations at build/typecheck. - Remove ACPX model allowlists, including the former Codex and Pi restrictions and the duplicate developer test-drive gate. Send any explicit model ID unchanged to its provider and verify the effective selection before prompting. The bundled ACPX package forwards unlisted IDs, rejects mismatched acknowledgements, and restores the exact selection after session load. It does not expand Cursor model aliases. Provider rejection, mismatch, or missing model controls fails without a fallback. Model examples live in evaluation fixtures, outside runtime declarations. - Add pinned Cursor execution, contained instructions, exact model verification and Agent/Plan/Ask modes. - Carry an opaque generic `mode` identifier in shared native execution, sidecar, Rust and recovery contracts. The provider adapter owns supported modes, defaults, native translation and acknowledgement. - Keep native RPC recognition, accepted-plan interpretation and permission evidence behind provider adapters. Shared settlement and recovery verify normalized facts and their committed evidence. - Replace the Cursor-only warm-attachment branch with a runner-owned capability. Only Cursor opts into it. Move profile compatibility and optional usage parsing into provider metadata and adapters. - Write generic plan-wait receipts. Read exact historical Cursor receipts through a separate compatibility decoder. Reject mixed formats and preserve existing authority checks. - Carry native plans, semantic questions, todos, child activity, permission identities and partial usage diagnostics through the Runner. - Preserve durable response delivery, cancellation, warm ownership and process retirement. - Finish accepted planning runs successfully. Keep their tasks open for explicit direction. Acceptance does not start implementation. - Ship `paperclipai runtime setup cursor` and its provisioner through the public package. npm installation does not download Cursor. Setup uses the OS account's closure-keyed cache so system-wide npm packages can remain read-only. Run it as the Paperclip service account. - Include Cursor in normal provider packs and Daytona images for macOS ARM64/x64 and Linux x64. - Reject stale release packs by source revision and current ACPX/Cursor pins before assembly writes files. Verify current Cursor version/profile/closure again at runtime. - Ship all three daemon targets and the expected Linux image-pack identity. A macOS controller uses its packaged Linux daemon for Daytona. Image mismatches fail before provider launch. - Use the vendored Runner boundary for installed readiness probes. Verify the actual installed Cursor probe. - Verify compiled public Daytona plugins and their release versions in installed smokes. - Record exact artifacts, the acceptance matrix, retained failures, supported capabilities and rollback behavior in the [readiness report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/cursor-production-readiness/doc/plans/2026-10-03-cursor-production-readiness.md). ## Verification - Current head `f7ec5cc1f0e30c62a829c016ff2013a2a9d79037` merges mainline `faa8e452c73bae5e044dd6379179a00106abb131`. It keeps Cursor plan and cancellation guards alongside mainline historical-question filtering. The evaluation catalog includes both Cursor and expanded adapter accounting cases (683 total). Recursive typecheck, full build, 696 lifecycle/recovery tests, 45 fixture tests and fixture typecheck passed. Current-head CI passed: 56 successful checks, one neutral and four skipped. [Complete CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37557996535). The fresh Base Greptile review is 5/5 on this exact head, with 304 files reviewed, zero new comments and zero unresolved threads. The user authorized overriding the CODEOWNER review gate after checks passed; no failing checks are overridden. Prior results below retain their own head identities. - Corrective head `3d2b168366258036f6b6a6fccb382c49138cc601` fixes the post-merge Apex finding. Automatic-review and new-evidence reconciliation preserve pending child results and recheck delivery under the status lock before completing. Account repair now excludes unrelated secret consumers and requires the failed agent's identity. Regression coverage includes the commit race, delivery statuses, current-run/current-intent exclusions, repeated reconciliation, both database reconciliation paths, and credential consumer boundaries. All 184 affected tests, server typecheck and server build passed. Current-head Base Greptile review is 5/5, with 304 files reviewed, zero new comments and zero unresolved threads. Current-head CI passed: 56 successful checks, one neutral and four skipped. [Complete CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37535994724). This Base review is distinct from the earlier Apex review. - Merge head `5957c257a` reconciles mainline `b508a05c4`. It preserves both accepted-plan waits and pending-child-completion checks, current provider selectors, task-creation response identities, and mainline ACPX missing-file handling. The combined patch is bound to Cursor profile v14; historical records keep their original identities. - Merge head `5957c257a` passed recursive typecheck, full build, 43 installed ACPX/package contracts, 107 provider UI and plan/recovery tests, 593 database-backed lifecycle tests, 49 profile/native contract tests, 45 Product E2E fixture tests, fixture typecheck, token gates, three provider-free browser task-creation cases, and Runner conformance/replay checks. Its complete CI passed (55 successful checks, one neutral and four skipped), while Apex returned 2/5 with a child-delivery finding addressed below. - The local full-suite attempt again failed the unchanged Git streaming test (360-second timeout) and was stopped. The concurrent local Rust attempt failed four unchanged Codex process/deadline tests; all four passed serially without code changes in 7.29 seconds after removing the competing test load. These failed commands are retained and are not reported as full-suite passes; the fresh Linux CI runs are tracked separately. - The previous head `907bdb2a2778c7ffeb4a662a91460c9d1ddfc9c5` earned Apex 5/5 with zero comments after fixing all three findings: per-user install cache, stale release-pack rejection, and public Linux smoke account/home handling. Its real built installer passed from read-only public packages on macOS ARM64 and Linux x64. All 137 release-registry checks and 64 ACPX package contracts passed. That review does not cover this mainline reconciliation. - Prior `beadd3654` passed the full CI matrix; its one unchanged chat test failure and successful single retry remain in the [CI history](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37521449327). Historical results below remain attributed to their original builds. - Fixture follow-up `dd59d7e82b103a88b7cbd7d2c38b612c0fbbff7a` removes provider-specific model choices from generic offline ACPX tests. The fake sidecar preserves the model and session identity selected at open through suspension. Affected verification passed: 106 Rust tests and 73 TypeScript tests. This commit changes test code only; the production-code checks below retain their recorded identities. Its CI and Greptile review later passed; those results belong to that historical head. - Model-selection cleanup `9a070808b48960a41fdfd369ae0636b95af82459`: 252 focused Runner tests passed (six platform skips), covering all six ACPX agents, native model acknowledgement, rejected selections, installation integrity and recovery identity. The merged branch passed recursive typecheck, full build, token gates, server admission (19 tests), and the Product E2E catalog (45 tests). The acceptance catalog passed all four tests. The full Rust suite passed: 643 tests, 2 ignored. It verifies sidecar acknowledgement of unlisted models and rejection of model mismatches. The final commits only update Rust tests; production sources match the verified build at `65ec3279ac50185e3cda109b5cfd9b4f56105de0`. No new paid provider calls were made. - The merge preserves both Cursor and the new mainline public-MCP fixture cases. Auto-merge remains disabled; the latest follow-up status is recorded above. The local `pnpm test:run` attempt hit the unchanged Git streaming test's 300-second timeout and was interrupted before merging mainline. The broad Runner attempt found obsolete single-model assertions plus three macOS fixture-path failures caused by a `/private/tmp` override. The assertions are corrected; affected TypeScript checks passed with the standard macOS temporary directory, and the complete Rust suite passed. Neither interrupted command is a full-suite pass. - Earlier declaration-cleanup head `6f4a5e9e2` passed recursive typecheck, build, Rust and focused tests. Its CI later exposed a test expecting duplicated Grok digest literals. The current source fixes that assertion to compare launcher bytes with the shared manifest. Historical successes and failed attempts are retained; no new live provider qualification is claimed. - Previous head `e75fde6098b0ddd8cec765bfb6ecaeecb88a26a6` passed complete CI (56 successful checks, one neutral, four skipped) and Greptile 5/5. [Historical complete CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37489112305). Those results are not claimed for the cleanup head. - Frozen live application: `d7b696f9b8f79095233e9e3d56d23e6a6018dd48`. Public package version: `0.0.0-cursor-verify.3d0c9b7761c6`. The declaration cleanup preserves release pins and does not relabel that tested artifact as a build of the new source. Mainline through `e34abee670` was reconciled while preserving accepted-plan waits, provider-capacity handling, and both Cursor and public-MCP fixtures. - Clean normal installation, explicit Cursor setup and daemon resolution passed on macOS ARM64, macOS x64 under Rosetta, and Linux x64. npm lifecycle hooks ran without silently downloading Cursor. - Historical v11 live matrix: **18/18 passed with cleanup** (nine local, nine Daytona) after the generic mode and lifecycle cleanup. The campaign has 23 attempts; all five failures and their diagnoses remain recorded. Exact case identities, hashes and limits are in the readiness report. All provider calls are real, use the explicit Luna model and company-bound credentials, and run without qualification or runtime-asset overrides. - The immutable Daytona image is `ghcr.io/paperclipai/paperclip-daytona-runner@sha256:d6259b6bba094702c13fc2283bd85550849c1c53145b656fb2746778f9fa1747`. The public Daytona plugin is installed independently and its version is checked. - Recursive typecheck, full build, token gates and Runner contract/conformance/replay checks passed on the frozen application. Its complete Linux CI suite passed. The duplicate local full-suite command was incomplete after timing failures; affected repeats passed, but that command is not reported as a clean pass. - Qualification fixtures passed typecheck, 1,675 Vitest tests (one skip), 128 Node checks, three provider-free browser tests, and 150 focused lifecycle tests after the final diagnostic correction. The affected legacy Cursor command file also passed all five tests after removing its shorter 10-second override; it now inherits the suite’s standard 15-second timeout. Greptile is 5/5 on `e75fde609` with no unresolved review threads. CI results above are recorded separately from historical build results. ## Risks - Cursor v14 includes the updated ACPX dependency patch and release identity. The v11 live matrix and image below remain historical evidence. They do not certify new v14 package/image artifacts. - ACPX accepts models beyond the qualification fixtures. Availability and entitlement depend on the provider. Successful configuration is not a claim of live qualification for every model. - Shared mode is an opaque identifier. Provider adapters own its meaning. Incompatible historical sessions remain fenced; exact committed plan waits and task history remain inspectable. - Native AskQuestion is excluded. Paperclip semantic questions are supported. Authoritative per-run dollar accounting is unavailable; partial counters remain diagnostics and unknown cost is not zero. - Image input, detailed native diffs, deeper child transcripts and native plan-file export remain follow-ups. - macOS x64 has clean-install and daemon-startup proof under Rosetta, not a separate live campaign on Intel hardware. - Release only the tested package/image combination. Merging this PR does not publish npm packages or deploy that image. Later builds need their own release verification. Rollback disables new Cursor admission while preserving records and recovery inspection. - A model can fail an exact instruction: one cancelled-plan attempt returned the wrong summary marker despite correct cancellation. The unchanged repeat passed; both results remain in the report. > ROADMAP.md was checked. This completes existing native Runner/Cursor work; it does not add an independent core feature proposal. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact serving variant and context window are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, protocol tests and browser-backed Product E2E tools. Cursor acceptance uses the explicit `gpt-5.6-luna[context=272k,reasoning=medium,fast=false]` model. That is the evaluated provider model. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — affected suites passed; full CI and the retained local failed attempts are recorded separately above. - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green — 56 successful checks, one neutral and four skipped on `f7ec5cc1f0e30c62a829c016ff2013a2a9d79037` - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups — fresh Base review passed on `f7ec5cc1f0e30c62a829c016ff2013a2a9d79037`; zero new comments and no unresolved threads. feat: add internal agent complaints and suggestions (#15367)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use legacy skills or native runner tools to work on tasks. > - Those agents can encounter friction that does not belong in the task thread. > - A complaint should preserve the raw reaction. A suggestion should describe an improvement. > - This pull request adds attributed local storage and both submission paths. > - Agents can submit feedback once and continue their primary work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Server, database, shared contracts, runtime skills, and native runner tools. **Problem or motivation** Agents have no default internal channel for incidental complaints and suggestions. Sending this feedback through task comments adds noise and can alter task workflows. **Proposed solution** Store free-form feedback in the current instance database. Derive agent, run, company, and task attribution from active authority. Provide default legacy skills and provider-neutral native actions. Keep the instructions close to Warp's MIT-licensed originals. **Alternatives considered** Task comments and external Slack delivery add unwanted side effects. Mandatory suggestion fields and short editorial limits would discard useful feedback. This release has no listing API, UI, read tool, automatic triage, or external forwarding. **Roadmap alignment** This is a maintainer-requested addition to the existing runtime skills and runner tool paths. It does not duplicate a listed roadmap milestone. Searches for complaint tooling, suggestion-box, and agent commentary found no overlapping public PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the company-scoped `agent_commentary` table, shared validation, and idempotent migration `0310`. - Add one transactional service and the agent-only POST route. Validate active authority before writes or replay. Redact known credentials. Commit a content-free audit with each new record. - Add `submit_complaint` and `submit_suggestion` to standard, ask, and planning modes. Keep review, revocation, and completion restrictions. Store replay identity on the commentary row. - Mount `complain` and `suggestion-box` by default for legacy agents. Bundle a dependency-free Node.js stdin helper in the operational skill and allow its POST through the sandbox bridge. - Preserve Warp's complaint voice and suggestion guidance, with attribution and local transport adaptations. Keep source attribution and MIT notices in each skill's LICENSE, outside runtime instructions. - Document custom-runtime HTTP use and database inspection. Add real-database tests and a repeatable live Codex smoke for local and Daytona execution. - Pin the lagging-source migration fixture before the identity-repair migration so later migrations preserve its regression coverage. ## Verification - Personally ran real Codex submissions in all four environments on 2026-10-06. Local runs passed at 20:35 UTC. Daytona native passed at 20:31 UTC; Daytona legacy passed at 20:33 UTC. Each stored exactly two rows with company, agent, run, and task attribution, wrote the continuation marker, exited zero, created no task comments, and left task status unchanged. Each recorded two content-free activity entries. - Daytona used production provider hooks, real remote execution and file transfer, the legacy queue callback bridge, and native private WebSocket ingress. The current Linux runner was built from `abf47b595`, staged, and verified against controller contracts. Both sandboxes were confirmed deleted. This is a focused feedback transport smoke; it does not claim full Runner E2E catalog or browser qualification. - The immutable base image and Linux binary digest are recorded in [the verification documentation](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/agent-commentary/doc/agent-commentary.md#verification). The smoke script can save content-free JSON evidence. No credentials or feedback bodies are in these reports. | Environment | Runner | Complaint row | Suggestion row | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | local | legacy Codex | `59413a00-1de2-4bb1-bcc6-9c4b54c64aa6` | `3db2364d-3e15-4f47-846f-875d3902999d` | | local | native Codex | `5da22b5f-41df-4de5-8ba0-d9345ab01267` | `2d5abe17-dd41-403c-a5ee-4729f2d58921` | | daytona | legacy Codex | `27c9d0aa-8477-409f-9da0-e8ffa48dee50` | `209681c9-d1e9-4ce1-999e-48fa07692389` | | daytona | native Codex | `6eb001bb-4bcf-43f7-8717-f662f53dc7c3` | `77c383d8-a997-49e5-a33e-25c70e15c0b2` | - Run the local check with `node cli/node_modules/tsx/dist/cli.mjs server/scripts/verify-agent-commentary-live.ts`. The documentation gives the Daytona invocation. Both use disposable instance databases and normal Codex provider usage. - Repository `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed after the test extension. The build includes runner generation, contracts, and replay checks. The smoke scripts also passed a separate TypeScript check. The lagging-source migration regression passed. All equivalent current-head Vitest CI shards passed. The local monolithic `pnpm test:run` invocation was stopped after CI supplied that coverage; it did not complete locally. - Focused tests cover company isolation, spoofing, revoked credentials, stale ownership, post-finish rejection, concurrent replay, conflicting keys, atomic rollback, and deletion through existing services. Boundary tests cover empty text, Unicode, text beyond 8,000 characters, and the 524,288-character ceiling without truncation. Mounting tests cover Codex, Claude, and sandbox staging. Helper tests cover standalone Node execution, stdin, invalid UTF-8, redirects, HTTP failure, and its deadline. Privacy and bridge tests cover successful and rejected requests. - Instructions were compared with Warp's originals. MIT notices and source credits live only in LICENSE files. Native tools preserve truthful disclosure when asked, without routine announcements. - [Full CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37508559190) and Greptile 5/5 passed on the earlier feature commit `5209c3501`. The later head found the migration-fixture assumption fixed in this update. On `8a4965164`, all 55 check contexts passed after one browser shard rerun. Its initial reviewer signoff failure also passed an isolated local browser run (1 test). Greptile scored that head 5/5 and identified one smoke cleanup gap. `6ecbafb0b` fixes failed-acquisition cleanup with four passing tests and a passing smoke-script typecheck. Fresh CI is pending for this final test-only fix. No commentary production code changed during verification. ## Risks - Feedback is internally attributed. It is not anonymous. Existing redaction removes known credentials, but agents must still omit sensitive content. Normal provider transcripts can include their submitted arguments. - Default skill availability changes for existing legacy agents. Runtime policy filtering still applies. The helper uses the existing Node.js runtime with no extra dependencies; custom runtimes can call the HTTP endpoint. - Feedback is removed with its run, agent, or company. Task deletion clears only the issue pointer. Normal database backups include the table. - The migration is additive and has no backfill. Writes serialize on the active run for replay consistency. No server suggestion quota is imposed. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6-astra` through Codex, with `xhigh` reasoning effort and a reported 258,400-token context window. Capabilities used: repository inspection, code execution, and live runtime verification. No subagents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(connections): add advanced provider setup and live browser qualification (#15341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Users connect accounts and choose an agent harness and model. > - The runtime change in #14970 supports custom providers on those connections. > - Normal setup must stay simple while advanced users can choose a compatible gateway. > - Shared connector rows and access controls keep these choices consistent. > - This pull request refines the agent setup UI and adds review stories and repeatable browser qualification. > - The qualification checks real tools and downloaded outputs, not only a successful run status. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14970, #37, #13083, #14104, #14565, #12692. The core implementation in #14970 is merged. This branch incorporates its squash commit and targets `master`. Both PRs contain our implementation. #14016 is a reference only and is not a dependency. This PR has 96 changed files. ## What Changed - Complete model-provider connector presentation beside other connectors. Each row uses the existing Connect action and connection list. Tags are stored without category UI. The base PR includes the provider forms and routes. - Show persistent Subscription, API Key, and Advanced choices. Label Advanced as Custom Gateway. Reuse provider logos, connection lists, and permissions controls. Default access to the organization and all agents when permitted; keep narrowing controls under Advanced. - Keep Configure reachable before subscription sign-in, so users can select a supported environment when the default cannot sign in. Testing and saving still require a connection. Show the execution environment in Configure. Preserve the confirmed Connect choice. Editing a method, credential, saved account, or advanced choice requires that current choice to connect before testing or saving. Use matching model and thinking-effort dropdowns and retain connection icons in selected values. - Preserve the new harness model default when switching an existing OpenCode agent to Codex or Claude, and resolve user-selected model names with the effective harness. - Load popular OpenRouter models through the shared connection-model discovery path. Keep explicit model lists and manual model entry available. - Group onboarding, connection setup, agent runtime, management, recovery, and production-component stories under AI Connections / Provider routing. - Add an explicit-only provider-connections browser suite for managed local or existing local/staging targets. Use private browser profiles and credential handoffs. Support human-assisted subscription sign-in without sharing passwords or tokens in reports. - Verify persisted connection identity, runtime probes, tool execution, exact artifact bytes, completion, and context-dependent follow-up. Retain source/model provenance, cost bounds, closed error diagnostics, original failures, and cleanup evidence. - Add Gemini startup-model and skill-root fixes, Grok private-history detection, ACP filesystem regression fixtures, selected-workspace handling for local Hermes, and artifact-helper workspace fallback. - Keep managed Grok runtime homes disposable. Remove host-side transcript retention/restoration because private file modes do not isolate same-user agent processes. Ignore earlier development archives and use a fresh task handoff when history is unavailable. Verify the absence of restored transcripts with a separate same-user process. - Capture stopped-run diagnostics before deleting an attached-company fixture agent. Track creation and owned sign-in receipts; revoke only this attempt's accounts and never adopt a concurrent campaign's newly created account. Preserve failure signals and final status through cleanup. - Require the requested environment in the saved agent and every run, including follow-ups. Reject a forced incompatible target. Keep one cancellation state through startup, every cell, reporting, and teardown for SIGINT, SIGTERM, and SIGHUP. Stop further paid cells after interruption. Document qualification limits. ## Verification - Current head `b3bb3e94d577d43d9965a6b9daba039f599b2e49` includes master `d9f600043`. The security fix in `a758fde31` passes full workspace typecheck, production build, and 119 connection/Grok regressions. The unchanged UI passes all 126 configuration/model-discovery tests and token gates. The final published-guide correction passes Grok adapter typecheck. Earlier head `eebd8225c` passed the complete deterministic runner suite (1,404 Vitest tests and 128 Node tests) and all CI jobs. Current-head CI run `37520147514` passed all 47 jobs, including the full sharded Vitest and browser matrix, production build, and canary dry run. All 55 checks completed: 53 successes and two expected skips. The current-head security scan passed, Greptile is 5/5, and no review threads remain open. - A separate same-user process reproduced reading a restored Grok transcript before the security fix. The regression now finds no transcript. Existing fresh-session fallback and ordinary session metadata behavior pass. - The final account-choice and cleanup fixes pass 85 setup tests and 26 qualification-harness tests. Regressions verify that editing a connection invalidates confirmation, Configure remains reachable before sign-in, diagnostics are captured before fixture deletion, and concurrent campaigns cannot adopt or revoke each other's accounts. UI and E2E typechecks pass. - The Storybook build and actual Chromium production-component stories passed during this change. Review the neighboring AI Connections / Provider routing stories, regular connector rows, three connection modes, model discovery, and the single execution-environment control in Configure. - Cancellation smoke verified authenticated cleanup before browser close for SIGINT, SIGTERM, and SIGHUP. Regressions cover interruption during startup and reporting, missing-file ACP resource errors, and preserved permission denials. Both ACP runtime versions and 54 ACPX/Grok regressions passed. The deterministic connection-intent browser suite passed two tests. - Historical local qualification retained 43 passing API/gateway cells out of 46, with downloaded outputs and follow-up receipts. These attempts span earlier builds; they do not qualify this exact commit or staging. Subscription combinations, Gemini overloads, and the unresolved follow-up failure remain recorded rather than counted as passing. - Use `pnpm test:e2e:runner -- --list --suite provider-connections` to inspect the matrix. Follow `tests/runner-e2e/PROVIDER-CONNECTIONS.md` for credentials, target URL, sign-in assistance, budget, evidence, and cleanup. Paid live tests remain opt-in. ## Risks - The core implementation in #14970 is merged. This PR adds no database migration of its own. - Subscription login needs an interactive provider session. Dedicated accounts and staging qualification remain follow-up work; this PR does not certify every login combination for production. - Managed Grok transcript resume is deferred until provider history has an OS isolation or authorized broker solution. Follow-ups start fresh with Paperclip task context; earlier live Grok results do not qualify this behavior. - Gemini CLI 0.58.0 has an upstream ACP new-file error conversion defect. Live overloads and one unresolved follow-up timeout remain recorded. The stock CLI is unchanged, and those cases are not marked as passing. - Real-provider tests spend credits and use private credential/evidence directories. The launcher requires explicit selection and checks target ownership. It must not attach to a developer's database by accident. - OpenClaw Gateway, Hermes Gateway, Claude Managed, AWS AgentCore, Process, HTTP, and legacy ACPX local remain outside custom provider setup. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window size were not exposed in this session.

Give managed agents persistent cryptographic identities (#15352)
Give agents persistent Ed25519 identities encrypted with the existing instance master key. Create keys transactionally for new agents and lazily before supported managed runs, expose public identities in the API and agent UI, and protect private material during runtime delivery and output persistence. Preserve identities in recovery backups while giving imported and development-cloned agents fresh keys. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ssh): transport project repositories as their own git checkouts (#14782)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - A project can attach more than one repository. The task workspace keeps the selected repository at its root and puts the other project repositories under `.paperclip-repositories/<name>-<key>`, each with its own `.git` > - Agents can run on an SSH execution environment. Paperclip copies the task workspace to the remote host before the run and restores it after the run > - The SSH copy excludes `.git` at every depth, but the restore baseline excludes it only at the workspace root > - So the other project repositories reach the remote host without Git, and the restore then deletes their `.git` directories on the Paperclip host > - The next run of the same task fails during workspace setup, and the agent cannot commit to those repositories on the remote host > - This pull request transports each project repository as a Git workspace of its own, the same way the sandbox path already handles them > - The benefit is that multi-repository projects work on SSH environments across consecutive runs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11632 (SSH workspace transfer exclude list). Related SSH workspace PRs: #14233, #14428, #14472. I found no issue or PR for this bug. **What happened?** A project has two repositories and its agent runs on an SSH environment. After the first run, the second repository under `.paperclip-repositories/` has no `.git` directory on the Paperclip host. The next run of the same task fails during setup with `Managed workspace path "…/.paperclip-repositories/<repo>" already exists but is not a git checkout.` On the remote host, `git` inside that repository resolves to the parent repository. **Expected behavior** Each project repository reaches the remote host as a Git checkout with its local changes. Remote commits and edits come back after the run. The next run of the same task starts normally. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create a project with two repositories. 2. Configure an SSH execution environment and make it the agent's default environment. 3. Assign a task to the agent and let it run once. 4. Look at `.paperclip-repositories/<repo>` in the task workspace: `.git` is gone. 5. Wake the agent on the same task again: the run fails with `setup_failed`. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `v2026.916.1` and on `master` (`5edf55d73`). **Deployment mode** Self-hosted (Docker), authenticated, with an SSH execution environment. ## What Changed - `ssh.ts`: `prepareWorkspaceForSshExecution` lists the project repositories under `.paperclip-repositories/`. It applies the discovery rules of `readGitWorkspaceSnapshot`: each entry must be a directory with a valid name and must be a Git repository root, else the prepare step fails before any transfer. - `ssh.ts`: the anchor copy leaves `.paperclip-repositories/` out. Each project repository then gets the same import, sync, and deleted-path steps as the anchor. The remote anchor repository ignores `/.paperclip-repositories/`, as the local checkout does. - `ssh.ts`: `prepareWorkspaceForSshExecution` returns the transported repositories (the field is present only when there are repositories). `restoreWorkspaceFromSshExecution` accepts them with their baselines. It validates each path and baseline first, then restores the repositories before the anchor and stops at the first failure, as the sandbox restore does. - `remote-managed-runtime.ts`: the anchor baseline excludes `.paperclip-repositories/`, and each project repository gets its own baseline for the restore merge. - `ssh-fixture.test.ts`: regression tests for two consecutive managed runs and for the direct restore path, on a workspace with a project repository (commits, dirty edits, and a deleted file). Two tests for the new validation. - `docs/guides/board-operator/execution-workspaces-and-runtime-services.md`: one line about project repositories in the SSH round trip. ## Verification - The new regression test fails on `master` (`expected 'backend initial\n?? ../\n' to contain 'frontend initial'`) and passes with this change. - `PAPERCLIP_ENABLE_DARWIN_SSH_ENV_LAB=1 npx vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/ssh-fixture.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/remote-managed-runtime.test.ts`: 32 passed, with the sshd fixture running. - `tsc --noEmit` passes for `packages/adapter-utils` and `server`, and `pnpm -r typecheck` passes for the other workspaces. The Rust step of `@paperclipai/paperclip-runner` did not run locally because `cargo` is not installed. - `node ./scripts/check-no-git-push.mjs` and `pnpm check:module-boundaries` pass. - `pnpm test:run` did not complete locally. Before it stopped, 5 tests failed: 2 in `server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts` and 3 in `server/src/__tests__/company-skills-service.test.ts`. The same 5 tests also fail on the base commit `5edf55d73` without this change. CI runs the full suite. - `pnpm build` passes for all workspaces except `@paperclipai/paperclip-runner` and `server`, because their build compiles the Rust runner binary and `cargo` is not installed. `tsc --noEmit` passes for `server`. - Manual test on a self-hosted `v2026.916.1` instance with the same change applied: a project with two repositories and an SSH environment. Two runs on the same task passed. After each run, the second repository keeps its `.git` on the host. On the remote host it is a Git checkout, and the remote anchor ignores it. ## Risks - Low risk. Workspaces without `.paperclip-repositories/` take the same path as before, and the return value is unchanged for them. - A workspace with an invalid entry under `.paperclip-repositories/` now fails the SSH prepare step. The sandbox path already rejects such entries. - If one repository fails to restore, the restore stops, as in the sandbox path. The remote run directory keeps the agent's work. - Each project repository adds one bundle import and one restore per run. The time grows with the number and size of the repositories. - Out of scope: other nested `.git` directories (for example a vendored checkout inside a repository) keep the existing SSH behavior. ## Model Used - Provider and model: Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5 (`claude-opus-5-5`), in Claude Code. - Capabilities: extended thinking, tool use, and code execution. The context window size was not recorded. - Use: the model investigated the bug, wrote the change and the tests, and ran the checks. A separate Claude Code agent reviewed the diff. The author reviewed the change. The manual test ran on the author's self-hosted instance. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

Add bounded Git integration restore diagnostics (#15291)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Sandbox runs must restore their workspace before finalization can succeed. > - Restore diagnostics identify the failed phase and operation. > - A Git integration exit code can still describe several different failures. > - This pull request adds fixed command labels and supported failure classes. > - Operators can distinguish these failures without collecting private Git output. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #15005. This branch includes merged #15268. It labels that change's locked ref transaction and nested branch probe without changing their behavior. **What happened?** A failed Git integration can report only `git_integration`, `unknown`, and an exit code. That evidence does not identify the failed command. Some Git versions also return exit 1 for both a merge conflict and an invalid object. **Expected behavior** Record a fixed command family and a supported failure class. Keep unknown cases as `unknown`. Exclude command arguments, process output, paths, repository URLs, filenames, and ref names. **Steps to reproduce** The tests create local repositories with conflicting commits, a missing object, and an expected-old ref mismatch. They call the real Git operations and inspect the resulting diagnostic. No hosted workspace or external provider is used. **Paperclip version or commit** Base: `e99854249c`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. The diagnostic applies to sandbox workspace restore. ## What Changed - Label Git integration calls with a closed command enum. Preserve arguments, options, errors, and retry behavior. - Recognize supported object and ref errors and OS permission codes. Require both exit 1 and completed tree output for a merge conflict. - Carry the closed fields through the existing restore receipt, saved adapter result, and Sentry projection. Revalidate saved metadata before projection. - Test nested wrappers, parallel failures, reused errors, handled probes, result settlement, and privacy with the real Sentry SDK. - Document the field contract and its limits. ## Verification - Eight focused suites pass: 295 tests. These cover Git sync, restore diagnostics, result settlement, teardown, sandbox runtime, failure projection, the real Sentry SDK, and native warm-workspace Git history. - `PAPERCLIP_REQUIRE_SENTRY_TEST_SDK=1 pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/workspace-restore-diagnostics.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/workspace-restore-result.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/git-workspace-sync.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/workspace-restore-teardown.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts server/src/services/__tests__/run-failure-diagnostics.test.ts server/src/__tests__/run-failure-sentry-real-sdk.test.ts server/src/__tests__/native-workspace-sync-history.test.ts` - Local checks use Node 24.21.0 and the pinned pnpm 9.15.4. The optional Sentry SDK is pinned to the declared 10.71.0 and uses an in-memory transport. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build`: pass on the rebased head. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped before source changes when #15268 merged and required a rebase. It reported three pre-existing company-skill cache test failures on macOS. The same three cases fail on clean bases `2c43b39167` and `e99854249c` and the earlier head with `EACCES` when publishing a read-only cache directory. The relevant test, service, and cache source blobs are identical. No cache changes are included. Later local test groups were not reached. - All 54 checks pass on exact head `8448896bc6`, including the post-ready security scan, with two intentional Storybook skips. Greptile scores this head 5/5 with no review threads. Full Linux CI covers the local groups that were not reached. - Independent review found no blocker. Its diagnostics, Git workspace, and native history suites pass 115/115 on this head. - A source comparison confirms that removing only diagnostic wrappers yields the merged upstream Git integration code exactly, including ref locks, transaction protocol, arguments, options, and retry decisions. - The clean base has stale dependency overrides in its lockfile. Local installation resolved them as the existing PR CI fallback does. No manifest or lockfile change is included. - `git diff --check` and a local secrets/PII review pass. ## Risks A Git version or localized message may not match a known failure form. Such cases remain `unknown`. Up to 16 KiB of stderr and the bounded tree-ID prefix of stdout are inspected only in memory. The saved fields contain enum values only. These diagnostics do not establish workspace recovery or authorize retries. Restore decisions and Git mutations are unchanged. No schema migration is required. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The service does not expose the exact model deployment ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(workspaces): restore rebased sandbox history against its starting snapshot (#15268)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and preserves their work across runs. > - Sandbox execution restores Git history and files to the host workspace. > - An agent can rebase or amend its branch before it finishes. > - Restore currently treats the original and rewritten tips as concurrent work. > - That merge can conflict even when the host has not changed. > - This change uses the starting Git snapshot to accept rewritten history safely. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A successful sandbox turn can end with `workspace_restore_failed` after the agent rebases and pushes its branch. The restore step merges the original host tip with the rewritten sandbox tip. This can recreate conflicts that the agent already resolved. **Expected behavior** Accept the rewritten history when the host still has the recorded starting branch and commit. Preserve concurrent host work through the existing merge and recovery paths. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a sandbox from a feature branch. 2. Rebase that branch onto an upstream commit that changes the same file. Resolve the conflict in the sandbox. 3. Restore the sandbox while the host remains on the original commit. 4. The old implementation attempts a conflicting Git merge and fails the run after the agent finishes. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `cab4263dc9` with a real Git rebase fixture. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server with sandbox execution. Related work: #15005 records restore failure stages. #11638 preserves unrelated imported history with a graft. #10601 handles bundle prerequisites. Those changes do not distinguish a rebase from a concurrent host edit. ## What Changed - Pass the run's starting Git branch and commit into sandbox history integration. - Adopt a related rewritten tip when the host still matches that snapshot. Keep the expected-old-value ref update and bounded retry. - Verify the branch attachment inside a prepared Git transaction while Git holds its ref locks. Abort if a checkout changed the branch. - Check host and sandbox Git identity before warm reuse, including nested repositories. Restage when their tips or branches differ. - Reject host branch changes and unrelated imports after a concurrent host commit. - Retain the existing unrelated-history graft for an unchanged host and the conservative behavior for callers without a snapshot. - Export a full bundle for an intentional reset to an ancestor so restore receives the actual sandbox tip. - Add real Git and sandbox restore regressions. Document the restore contract. ## Verification - Eight Git sync, sandbox restore, and native workspace suites pass: 255 tests. - The new checkout-race and warm-reuse regressions failed before the fixes. Real Git hooks verify that prepared transactions prevent a concurrent HEAD change. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after rebasing onto `984f092ddf` and applying the Apex findings. - `pnpm build` passed on `f5132603d6`. - The earlier `pnpm test:run` attempt reported three `company-skills-service.test.ts` failures on macOS (`EACCES` renaming a read-only staging directory). The same failures reproduced on unchanged master. The broader run was stopped after confirming that baseline failure; it was not a full-suite pass. Those source and test files are unchanged in the current base. - [Apex review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15268#issuecomment-6002549219): 5/5 on `f5132603d6`, requested with `@greptileai apex review`. All three historical findings are addressed and all review threads are resolved. - All CI gates passed on `f5132603d6` (53 successful checks, two skipped). The signoff-policy browser fixture initially timed out waiting for a local process-agent run; its one retry passed without code changes. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37387511152) ## Risks - A recorded starting snapshot now authorizes replacement of related rewritten history. A stale or changed host tip retains the concurrent-history path. Ref writes still compare the expected old commit. - Branch changes and unrelated rewrites after host advancement require recovery instead of replacing host work. - An intentional reset to an ancestor uses a full bundle. Large histories can increase transfer time in that case. - The existing directory merge rules remain in force. The fix does not resolve an earlier failed restore or replay its external actions. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code editing, and local test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context window were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass — 255 affected tests; the broader-suite baseline failure is documented above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(agents): reduce default instructions and qualify stock harnesses (#14948)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its adapters supply task context and access to Paperclip skills and tools. > - The default hire manual and shared prompts also repeat general work procedures. > - Those procedures overlap with stock provider instructions and the Paperclip skill. > - Existing E2E fixtures supply a QA manual, so they do not qualify the production default. > - This pull request reduces the generic instructions and adds real default-hire coverage. > - The benefit is less competing guidance, with inspectable evidence for preserved skills and task context. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs: #14920. That merged change preserves native Codex base instructions. This PR covers the default manual, shared legacy prompts, operational skill guidance, and the narrowly approved ACP skill-discovery/session-environment repair for measured delivery and credential-persistence failures. **What existing behavior does this improve?** New non-CEO hires without a custom bundle and legacy task/chat startup and continuation prompts. **Current behavior** The shipped default manual contains 602 words. Generic task/chat prompts and ordinary resume deltas repeat work procedures already available through the harness and Paperclip skill. **Proposed behavior** The default manual contains only the eight-word company identity. Shared startup prompts retain identity and connection guidance. Ordinary resume deltas retain current work context without the generic execution contract. **Reason and benefit** Let the stock harness guide general work. Keep Paperclip-specific capabilities and independently test default hires, skills, ordered comments, and chat restart. **Breaking changes** New default hires receive less guidance. Existing saved manuals, explicit custom bundles, CEO templates, and specialized wake contracts retain their behavior. The obsolete includeExecutionContract option remains accepted for source compatibility. ## What Changed - Reduce the default hire manual to one sentence. - Reduce shared task/chat defaults and remove the generic ordinary-resume contract. - Keep connection guidance, auth, skills, custom prompts, and specialized wake context. - Add credential-free instruction-boundary gates and 26 explicit Product E2E cells across eight legacy/native profiles, including two focused Paperclip-storage cases. - Capture public hire receipts before providers run, then grade delivered prompts and independent task/chat outcomes. - Add an early legacy skill API recipe for saving a task document, checking the saved revision receipt and linking the document. Improve stock task/heartbeat skill-selection metadata and show a clickable Markdown UI-link example. Keep native tool completion separate. - Advertise bounded routing descriptions and exact successfully staged SKILL.md paths in legacy ACP Claude; keep full bodies on demand and preserve remote path rebasing. - Remove only the provider environment from copied persisted ACP session records, while loading current run credentials and preserving all other options/conversation state. - Regenerate both capability metadata inventories and reject stale manifests/inventories before provider admission. - Publish the original reduction and focused skill-repair comparisons, preserving all failures, automatic recovery, cost coverage and limitations. ## Verification **Behavioral qualification remains pending.** Original legacy ACP Claude loses the issue document only in the reduced cohort beneath an unchanged credential failure. A source-backed diagnosis finds that neither ordinary assignment reads the staged operational skill, while the runtime persists provider environment in session state. The new common repairs expose skill metadata/path and omit persisted env; strict document and credential guards stay intact. [Inspectable diagnosis and retained hashes](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/9f654db4541d3d002769c988f6e51fc0b08dadbd/doc/plans/2026-10-03-legacy-acp-claude-readiness.md). Current repair head `de0965984ff3edf611ae6d0e7ca5c7d5ae3947bb` incorporates master `569c7203aa24b95440682983ce7940ba1d4247bd` (merged #14961/#15007). All 222 affected adapter tests, adapter-utils/E2E typechecks, and final 96 variant/grader/retry calibrations pass. The frozen historical comparator is `c25697f4260b6f3adfea143c3ae9932e2f42986d`: 8,280 of 8,291 paths identical, exactly two production instruction paths plus nine declared unit expectations differ. The operational skill/discovery/environment repairs, selected model/profile/task/core grader/auth/permissions/retry policy are identical. Both actual launcher prepare→verify admissions pass with zero providers. [Immutable manifest and exact receipts](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/9f654db4541d3d002769c988f6e51fc0b08dadbd/doc/plans/2026-10-03-legacy-acp-claude-evidence/manifest.json). One original legacy ACP Claude cell per variant is authorized, with enforced single campaign attempts, 12-minute deadlines and company/agent 1,000-cent hard stops; every product recovery run/cost is counted. Actual live outcomes are pending. Current normal CI has one failed server shard and failed aggregate verify under diagnosis; other normal gates including typecheck/build/Rust/all eight browser shards pass. Fresh review completed successfully; the valid historical startup/resume masking finding was fixed with per-invocation task/chat checks and strict complete-snapshot capture, calibrated and resolved. Prior heads, failures and campaigns below remain historical evidence, not checks on this repair head. - Prior head `36aa4d81c49a1a8f6f04b1a068fae19aa901955f` is replayed on merged hiring master `862a5758ba0e88a33232c1f1fa645e85c38a3113`. All 52 current-head checks pass with two intentional Storybook skips, including repository typecheck/test/build and the browser shard. Fresh Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. Exact-head stock prerequisites pass 599 assertions (598 TypeScript + 1 Rust), all six gates and retained receipt verification, zero providers/source errors. Fingerprint `a7f5a22d860a88fe20cce213c6d5e0004788f32c8363930729aea4fd740ad16d`. Combined catalog/hiring calibrations pass 67 assertions, E2E typecheck and 26-cell stock discovery pass. Canonical contract/inventory checks and the later issue-derived reference calibration are retained; that reference-only follow-up is not live-qualified by earlier frozen runs. - Prior full repository typecheck/build passed. The complete local Vitest run executed 14,956 tests: 14,870 passed, 83 skipped, three timing failures. All three affected files passed unchanged narrow reruns; original failures remain retained. Current-head CI now passes the full general checks; the original local failures remain retained. - The original 24-pair default-manual/shared-prompt comparison has two new overall classic Claude/OpenCode document-delivery failures plus an additional legacy ACP Claude document loss beneath an unchanged credential-guard failure (not closed by later runs), two newly passing OpenCode ordered cases, seven unchanged failures and 13 unchanged passes. Equal 15/24 totals do not establish behavioral equivalence. [Complete original report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/875f4c397d9e8c3f12f39dedd59abaf1eaf5236e/doc/plans/2026-10-02-stock-harness-live-comparison.md). - The skill-only repair holds the eight-word manual/shared prompts and merged #14920 fixed. All four matched profile configurations and 203 fixture/behavior files match. Candidate `abd0b628ca642c09a54a4edc56a5227402f6686e` varies only the two skill sources against baseline `bc83fe030234439ac51279502a28803958963e2e`. [Candidate workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37060885547) and [baseline workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37060888047) each pass 571 exact-source prerequisites before providers; all eight cells clean up successfully. Failed campaigns publish successfully and remain failed. - Repair pairs: Claude original Fail → Pass; Claude explicit Pass → Pass; both OpenCode cases Fail → Fail. Explicit OpenCode's handoff worsens beneath the unchanged failing UI-link grade: baseline gives a clickable API URL, candidate gives a code-formatted path without an anchor. The request's usable-link wording is narrower in the UI-only oracle. [Complete repair report and safe projection](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/875f4c397d9e8c3f12f39dedd59abaf1eaf5236e/doc/plans/2026-10-02-legacy-document-skill-repair.md). - The subsequent narrow stock metadata/link correction has two matched Pass → Pass cases, zero new machine failures/passes and no pending pairs. Both original-case handoff links remain deficient: candidate uses a wrong PAP prefix, baseline supplies a bare prefix-less slug path; the preserved original oracle only requires a durable document. Both explicit clickable UI-link cases pass revision/content/link grading. All four exact-source 587-check gates, single assignment runs and cleanup pass. This does not establish fix causality because baseline also succeeds. [Candidate workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37069547401) freezes `fe9dc1e3c518825242ed889ab9c8352986f8c2ed`; [matched baseline](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37069552374) freezes `0d7ecfa96d72fba79b7f0a25052b42c0686c0488`. This is a skill-only comparison with reduced manuals/shared prompts held constant, not a repeat of the historical-manual comparison. Only original and clarified explicit classic OpenCode cases are selected, two per variant/four expected turns. 8,242 other tracked files and both profile hashes match; protected workflows admit each exact source before credentials. [Complete qualification report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/74d0d3d945f4c52d0814b5a845ab5bd09f33cd6b/doc/plans/2026-10-02-opencode-skill-routing-link-qualification.md). Candidate original loads Paperclip/reference before saving publicly; baseline original loads it after writing locally, then saves publicly within the same assignment. Reported cost totals are $0.0107824490 candidate / $0.0107909015 baseline, with unmetered runtime. The later reference-only issue-derived link correction is provider-free calibrated and **not live-qualified** by these frozen runs; no further paid runs. - Retained tool calls show the repaired original OpenCode assignment loads only its assigned output skill before writing locally. Operational Paperclip is first loaded during automatic disposition recovery; its early recipe is visible then, but it never saves the missing document. Explicit candidate loads Paperclip and reads the new reference before saving successfully. All nine actual runs are counted. Reported LLM totals are $0.3802537209 baseline and $0.4918990161 candidate; local runtime is unmetered. - Initial setup, packaging, cancelled/missing-cell recovery, callback test and relative-output attempts remain retained. No completed provider failure was rerun. Frozen measurement branches are unchanged by later canonical metadata maintenance. - Run `pnpm test:e2e:runner:stock-harness`, `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit`, and `pnpm test:e2e:runner:typecheck`. Select `stock-harness` explicitly for paid execution; it is excluded from `--all`. Prior-head integration: `36aa4d81c49a1a8f6f04b1a068fae19aa901955f` replays this PR on merged hiring #14985 (`862a5758ba0e88a33232c1f1fa645e85c38a3113`), preserving the four explicit custom-CEO-bundle checks, minimal generic manual boundary, and both suites. The combined fixture catalog and hiring calibrations pass 67 assertions; exact-head stock prerequisites pass 599 assertions (598 TypeScript + 1 Rust), all six gates and retained-receipt verification, zero providers/source errors, fingerprint `a7f5a22d860a88fe20cce213c6d5e0004788f32c8363930729aea4fd740ad16d`. E2E typecheck and 26-cell stock discovery pass. Fresh current-head CI passes all 52 checks with two intentional skips, and fresh Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads. The prior source-plan browser failure is retained: a deterministic process fixture replayed its last `fixture:plan` command on `chat_task_completed`, writing revision 2 with identical body after the approval handoff. This was not paid provider execution. Rebased current-head CI passes the same assertion without an old-head retry or a change to that browser fixture. The merged hiring change was measured separately on immutable matched unions, with this reduced/shared/operational context and native completion guidance held constant. [Complete original two-profile report](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/f0512647656be78e48abd8c22a3078db8bf6bcd2/doc/plans/2026-10-02-hiring-template-live-comparison.md): [candidate](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37075466208) / [historical baseline](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/37075469463), 705 provider-free prerequisites each. Both pairs are unchanged Fail → Fail on the exact-five count, with six core delivery checks passing all four cells; 28 actual successful runs include eight automatic completion wakes, zero retries, four successful cleanups. Source-read coverage is uncomparable, actual model charges unknown. Separately versioned provider-free accounting remains analytical work; original verdicts are preserved. This does not rerun or qualify the completed default-manual or native campaigns. ## Risks - Legacy ACP Claude's additional delivery loss is not closed by any later matched run and blocks the no-extra-failing-behavior merge criterion. Legacy document delivery may have relied on the prior manual/shared prompts. The early skill repair improves Claude in one trial; the later OpenCode pairs pass in both variants and cannot establish causality or robust recovery. Both original-case links remain deficient beneath the storage-only grade. The later issue-derived reference correction has only provider-free validation. Native finish/block descriptions must not be supplied to legacy agents. - The comparison holds merged native Codex fix #14920 constant; it cannot measure that fix's before/after task performance. - These bounded skill/context/chat workflows do not measure general coding quality. Unrepresented providers remain unqualified. - Saved manuals and old Codex sessions are not automatically migrated. Codex through ACP still has a separate base-instruction follow-up. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family as identified by this session.
