DottaandPaperclip ac9459bae3 feat: configure company agent observability (#16874)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Companies use several agent harnesses and execution environments.
> - Operators need one place to select where native agent logs and
traces go.
> - An inference proxy would add a dependency to the agent request path.
> - This pull request supplies native OpenTelemetry settings to managed
Codex and Claude Code processes.
> - Company secrets protect destination credentials. Export failure does
not change the task result.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Company settings, shared contracts, database, server, adapters, and
runner.

**Problem or motivation**

An operator cannot configure a company destination for native agent logs
and traces. Manual harness configuration is hard to apply across local
and remote execution.

**Proposed solution**

Add one company destination: Braintrust or a custom OTLP HTTP/protobuf
endpoint. Apply a transient snapshot when execution preparation starts.
Keep credentials out of API reads, task environment manifests, recovery
files, and command arguments. Replace a warm process when its export
settings change and preserve its conversation.

**Alternatives considered**

Multiple destinations can use a user-operated collector for fan-out.
This change does not add a collector, an inference proxy, or transcript
scraping.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends company settings, secret management, and support for
multiple harnesses. The maintainer requested this implementation.
Searches for observability and Braintrust found no duplicate company
destination feature. Related infrastructure tracing work in #16236 has a
separate content-free contract.

## What Changed

- Add strict schemas, revision checks, encrypted secret storage,
activity records, and board-only settings routes.
- Add explicit synthetic logs and traces tests with a bounded HTTP
request and sanitized results.
- Supply native Codex configuration and Claude Code environment values
through local and remote launch paths.
- Preserve Codex login refresh through the existing managed credential
link. Retain unsaved drafts across background reads. Require complete
custom header re-entry when the endpoint origin changes.
- Separate process export compatibility from conversation identity.
Isolate generated Codex configuration and preserve resumable sessions,
including remote home refresh after export changes.
- Advance the immutable Pi/Copilot source attestations for shared
environment and sidecar code changes. Keep their provider payloads
unchanged and retain prior identities for decoding.
- Redact destination credentials throughout launch diagnostics and HTTP
logs.
- Add the production settings form, Storybook states and journey,
documentation, and feature/access map entries.

## Verification

- Real managed local Codex 0.160.0 and Claude Code 2.1.286 tasks
exported to Braintrust. API readback and the Braintrust UI showed the
test records. A real remote Daytona Codex task exported through the
legacy `exec` path.
- Live tests exercised content capture off, export disabled, warm
conversation reuse, and a destination that accepted connections but
never replied. Agent work succeeded and export requests stopped at the
configured three-second timeout. The UI connection test returned “Test
payload accepted”; the saved API key stayed masked after reload.
- All current-head CI test lanes, typechecks, packaging/build checks,
and required aggregates passed on
`71e994b2be9c8fb6d6e938a4ad7cf4c95fdafe31` ([CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318)).
Greptile completed on that exact commit at 5/5, with zero unresolved
review threads. The additional optional Paperclip Review check remains
queued waiting for its assigned agent.
- Local workspace typecheck and build passed. Focused verification
included 239 combined runner tests, 789 API/native-session tests, 107
Codex home/ACP/sandbox-site tests, 204 feature/privacy tests, and the
affected Rust suites. Migration, token, map, Storybook catalog, and
Storybook build checks passed during acceptance. These checks ran at the
relevant implementation or merge boundary; the current-head CI is the
complete final gate.
- Managed AI credential projections now receive enabled and disabled
company export settings; genuine caller-owned Codex homes remain
untouched. Two regressions reproduced the skip before the repair. All
276 engine/lifecycle tests and adapter-utils typecheck pass afterward.
The launched TOML retains provider/MCP settings, credential continuity,
and redaction.
- Settings saves, removal, and the real company-deletion owner acquire
secret mutation ownership before database locks. PostgreSQL NOWAIT
probes cover all three paths; concurrent save/rotation/removal/deletion
requests settle correctly. The affected suites passed 137 tests,
followed by all 32 service/connection cases after expanded deletion
coverage. Server and Codex adapter typechecks pass.
- Codex source profiles use the effective CLI argument list. A spawned
fixture CLI reproduced both ignored-argument failures; all three
precedence/fallback cases now pass.
- Real tar staging reproduced remote conversation loss in both API-key
and subscription modes before the repair. Both now pass: changing
managed settings preserves sessions, archives, native indexes, and
refreshed subscription credentials. A corrupt upload preserves the prior
config and conversation.
- Preserved failure evidence: initial CI caught stale Pi/Copilot source
attestations, a missing test-harness helper, and packaging fixture/probe
mismatches; those were corrected and covered by focused checks.
Superseded heads had intermittent attachment-composer timeouts despite
successful uploads; [the original trace and screenshot remain
available](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39309701089/artifacts/12215109203).
The same attachment case passed on the final head: [25/25 tests in shard
3](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39319194318/job/118288637051).
- A connection-fault fixture also exposed a stale pooled socket after
its hang case; closing fixture responses isolated scenarios and the full
affected suite passed.
- The broad local test run was not clean: database resource failures,
timeouts, an older cached module graph, and a stale optional-resource
manifest assumption were recorded. Focused checks passed after the
documented fixes. This does not establish a clean full local pass.
- Native remote Codex, remote Claude, and the full ACPX Codex bridge
remain unqualified. The direct Codex resume test does not establish full
bridge acceptance.

## Risks

- Native exporters perform network requests from each execution
environment. A server connection test does not prove remote
reachability.
- Prompts, assistant responses, and tool content are enabled by default
when supported. Native caps and harness-specific controls still apply.
- Caller-owned Codex homes are unsupported for automatic configuration
and remain untouched.
- Native harnesses and their tool processes can inspect export
credentials. The settings form and documentation advise using
ingestion-scoped credentials. Retained headers remain bound to their
saved scheme, host, and port; changing origin requires fresh values or
removal.
- Migration 0357 adds a company-scoped row and secret reference. It is
safe to reapply. Secret removal and company deletion use the existing
secret lifecycle.
- Slow or unavailable destinations must not block task settlement.
Export settings take effect at the next execution preparation boundary.

DottaandPaperclip e6dcc6b095 Connect personal Muse through secure native execution and Vault OAuth (#16448)
Add company-scoped Muse native control, OAuth, wake receiver and recovery.

Recheck current authority after waits and before effects or receipt replay. Preserve task-read scope, assignment expiry, independent holds, nonblocking reassignment and truthful cleanup provenance.

Retain source trust on progress comments and verify current Muse V8 authority through real signed-JWT HTTP requests. Preserve the upstream trimmed ordinary authentication lookup.

Refs #16448.

Preserve captured canonical queue recovery and concurrent environment preparation while retaining the scoped Muse V8 exclusion. Normal migration 0354 and existing Muse SQL remain unchanged. Fresh current-head Greptile review is 5/5 with the project-write finding addressed. Required CI and independent technical review gate the merge; maintainer override is reserved for formal approval rules.

Recheck current Muse project-write authority after all receipt/task/run/admission waits, before creation or replay. Real PostgreSQL regressions reproduce four late effects/replays on the old route; the repaired three-file treatment passes 354 cases with no skips, and the scoped server typecheck passes. Ordinary/Dot behavior is preserved.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 4415665d67 fix(server): allow proved idle waits and verify historical cleanup (#16633)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents, task continuations, integrations, and
their execution resources.
> - Automatic idle sleep needs durable evidence that accepted work and
provider cleanup are settled.
> - Response-driven questions, passive board escalations, and completed
connection receipts currently look like unfinished work.
> - Legacy ephemeral leases and terminal image sessions need actual
deletion proof before their history can become idle.
> - This PR adds narrow evidence-based exceptions and read-only provider
verification while preserving queues, outcomes, and ownership fences.
> - Idle instances can sleep without losing responses, automatic
reconciliation, or cleanup obligations.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Instances with no executable work can remain awake because pending human
responses, passive recovery records, outbound integration configuration,
or completed delivery history are counted as background work. Older
failed ephemeral leases and finished setup sessions also lack the
evidence needed to distinguish retained resources from deleted
allocations.

**Expected behavior**

Permit idle sleep only for proved response-driven waits and settled
history. Continue blocking real queued work, inbound integrations
without a wake contract, unfinished accounting/retries, retained
resources, and uncertain provider cleanup.

**Steps to reproduce**

Finish an issue's producing run, leave a pending question or
confirmation, and request an owned scheduled idle report. Separately
retain a processed connection receipt or a failed ephemeral lease whose
provider allocation has already been deleted. The old checks keep those
instances awake even after executable work has finished.

Related public groundwork: #15522, #15599, #15761, #15897, #15907, and
#16325. Searched existing public idle-sleep PRs; this addresses
additional blockers in the current predicates.

## What Changed

- Recognize supported response-driven waits and passive board recoveries
without changing task state, response audiences, or continuation
policies. Bind passive issue generation into routine-only alarms too.
Keep automatically polled merge-confirmation cards awake.
- Treat processed events, delivered intents, disabled drafts, and
outbound MCP configuration as history/configuration where proved safe.
Preserve pending deliveries, downstream wake requests, and inbound
GitHub bindings.
- Permit only pristine Slack setup drafts with a matching disabled
channel connection, no provisioning registration, and no prior provider
identity/activity. A saved slash-command name remains inert
configuration.
- Repair missed routine execution-issue status hooks in bounded
awake-only maintenance. Lock and re-read exact owners, apply existing
completion/transient-failure rules, and preserve normal continuation
after an issue resumes.
- Allow human-only connection setup to wait only when no reusable active
connection of its purpose exists; available access reblocks sleep for
reconciliation. The delivery worker shares this proof, releases its
local idle hold, and retains maintenance only while already awake.
Passive-only ticks pause before admission during an owned drain,
allowing slow backups to finish; new producer notifications still
reconcile and invalidate the backup.
- Add optional `environmentInspectLease` SDK discovery/dispatch and
read-only Daytona/fake-provider implementations. Old workers remain
conservative. Daytona status inspection uses a fresh provider GET
without reconnecting or poisoning unused-worker eligibility.
- Bind historical credential reads to an unrotated initial secret
version and its immutable resolved-value hash; reject ambiguous
histories and ambient Daytona credential/API-endpoint fallbacks before
querying provider state.
- Verify bounded rotating batches of historical resources on
already-awake Cloud instances, outside readiness. Store host-owned
deletion evidence bound to exact row identity/version and reject
concurrent ownership changes. Preserve failure outcomes, cleanup/export
intents, and run continuation authority.
- Preserve cancellation provenance, defer contended routine rows
individually, and cap actual inspection RPCs across caller timeouts and
worker exits. Add database, SDK, provider, configuration-scope, and race
regression coverage and update idle protocol documentation.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on `24fd1c0f5ec`; server
typecheck/build passed again after the final coordinator-only fix in
`60f23e6e4b6`.
- Final server regressions: 258 sleep-safety/connection cases and all 17
coordinator cases passed. Earlier focused checks also covered 331
combined idle/cleanup cases, 34 custom-image cases, 39
credential/cleanup cases, 39 connection-history cases, and 80 existing
routine cases. Counts overlap and are not additive.
- SDK: 153 passed. Daytona: 406 passed with 14 existing opt-in skips.
The provider implementation also typechecks against the locked SDK used
by the Cloud wrapper.
- Dependency boundaries were exercised with real child workers holding
provider inspection replies beyond caller timeouts, a real PostgreSQL
row lock delaying one routine owner, and real connection creation →
queue notification → worker hold release → resumption after access is
enabled without another notification. A controlled six-second backup
goes through the real coordinator, task drain, work signals, and
idle-safety generation checks; maintenance permits completion, while a
new committed transaction invalidates it.
- Full local `pnpm test:run` completed its general-server phase with
21,122 passing, 29 failing, and 109 skipped tests; later phases did not
run. That long run spanned source edits and is not a final-revision
pass. The affected Slack draft assertion passes on current source.
Restoring `/usr/sbin` for `lsof` produced 233 passing tests and two
Git-fixture failures across the other five files (3 existing skips).
Both remaining assertions pass with command-scoped
`init.defaultBranch=master`; this host defaults to main and leaves both
branches in their fixture. No source/global Git setting changed for that
comparison. Original failure logs are retained.
- A parallel typecheck/build attempt raced generated Runner outputs and
failed an import. Running the build sequentially passed with no source
change.
- Local database checks use the maintained test-constructor seam with
native PostgreSQL 16.14 because bundled PostgreSQL 18 is unreliable on
this host. No database assertions were skipped in the focused runs. An
interrupted combined run was superseded by the separate passing
coordinator and safety/connection runs; no owned test database processes
remain running.
- Apex reviewed final head `60f23e6e4b615a08591e19d86443a6c35c091ce1`:
**5/5**, zero unresolved threads. All current-head CI gates are green,
with expected policy skips. The branch is conflict-free and GitHub
reports a clean merge state.
- Current-head CI initially failed `plan-task-fixture.spec.ts:66` during
fixture deletion: the final company DELETE hit
`activity_log_company_id_companies_id_fk` after the feature assertions
completed. The deletion path is unchanged here; the final diff only
changes drain-gated passive maintenance. The preceding revision passed
this shard. Failure evidence is retained in [the original CI
job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39006936642/job/117321244396);
the targeted retry passed on the unchanged commit ([retry
job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39006936642/job/117322535013)).
This shows recovery, not that the underlying company-deletion race is
resolved.
- These checks do not claim staging/production deployment or live
provider cleanup proof. Provider tests simulate responses. Full Cloud
staging verification requires a compatible Core/private-plugin
composition after the Core revision is on master.

## Risks

Sleep eligibility changes require the existing owned drain, final
generation validation, local-work checks, and plugin drain. Unsupported
states fail closed. Queued agent input and routine execution remain
blocked. Outbound MCP exemptions exclude inbound GitHub grants; other
unsupported inbound integrations remain awake.

The inspection RPC is optional and requires a matching live worker
method. Its actual outstanding calls are capped at two across workers
even after the caller times out. Historical lease inspection requires
its recorded plugin/config; setup inspection requires an unchanged
recorded config fingerprint. Not-found under replacement account
credentials is not historical deletion proof: ambiguous/rotated secret
histories defer verification, and initial-version reads must match their
recorded value hashes. Missing provenance (including legacy image
sessions without a recorded config fingerprint), live/stopped resources,
provider authorization failures, and concurrent changes defer
verification. Routine repair replays existing
completion/transient-failure behavior and timestamps at reconciliation
time; it does not execute or discard deferred comments. No migration or
destructive provider operation is added. The new marker does not grant
run-resume authority. Full Cloud staging validation requires a
compatible Core/private-plugin composition; no production deployment is
included.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip db65a0863e Deliver durable resource lifecycle events to plugins without polling (#16203)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - Plugins keep external resources aligned with Paperclip projects and
agents.
> - The durable resource journal stores changes, but its plugin
interface requires polling.
> - Project deletion has no journal entry, so consumers must scan for
missing projects.
> - This PR delivers committed journal events through a native plugin
callback and records deletion.
> - Plugins can recover unfinished work without periodic change scans.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Related: #15343 introduced the durable inbox. #15631 added required
agent lifecycle participation. This change keeps both contracts and adds
automatic delivery for the resource inbox.

**What happened?**

Plugins must schedule reads of the durable inbox. A deleted project has
no durable deletion event. Consumers must scan saved bindings to detect
its removal.

**Expected behavior**

Core should deliver committed resource events and replay unfinished
work. Empty queues should have no polling timer. Project removal should
leave a durable event.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Install a plugin that consumes project lifecycle events.
2. Create or update a project. The plugin must call `listLifecycle` to
discover it.
3. Delete the project. The journal has no deletion entry.

## What Changed

- Add `resourceLifecycle` to the manifest and `onResourceLifecycle` to
the SDK. Require `events.subscribe` and a configured, enabled company
scope.
- Reuse transaction-aware work signals and the delivery coordinator.
Wake after commit, on startup and plugin activation, and after
configuration changes.
- Acknowledge only a matching successful result. Retry unfinished or
interrupted work. Retain deferred events without an idle retry timer.
- Wake again after successful worker configuration application, and
retain failed scans through idle drain (both Apex findings fixed).
- Keep ordering per resource and deliver past failed or deferred
resources. Keep the manual inbox methods for existing consumers.
- Record project deletion in the removal transaction. Extend the journal
constraint with a generated migration.

## Verification

- Apex follow-up: 129 focused worker, delivery, coordinator, and
application tests passed; server typecheck passed. Regression coverage
verifies configuration-application races and failed scans across idle
drain.

- Focused lifecycle, transaction coordinator, manifest, and SDK dispatch
suites: 105 tests passed, including single-connection saves, redacted
failure diagnostics, wakeups retained during idle drain, and per-event
retry deadlines.
- Complete SDK suite plus delivery database tests: 128 tests passed.
- Shared, database, and SDK typechecks passed. Direct server `tsc
--noEmit` passed against rebuilt SDK declarations.
- Full local `pnpm test:run` finished with 19,491 passed, 148 skipped,
and 6 failed tests across 5 files (plus two suite setup errors). This
run overlapped branch updates and is not final-head evidence: failures
included missing Cargo, local Git default-branch assumptions, and stale
in-process lifecycle modules. Final Apex-fix commit `75d028788` passed
all CI gates, including the full test shards, and received Apex 5/5 with
no unresolved comments.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` were attempted. Both stopped
because Cargo is unavailable locally. CI supplies the Rust toolchain.
- Local installation used the repository's documented lockfile fallback
because master has dependencies missing from its lockfile. No dependency
changes are included here.

## Risks

- Delivery is at least once. Plugins must re-read current state and make
external effects idempotent.
- Signals are process-local, like the other delivery queues. Startup
recovers committed rows. Independent database writers or multiple active
server processes require an explicit ownership and wake protocol.
- Apply migration `0340_open_warlock.sql` before running code that
records project deletion. Earlier deletions cannot be reconstructed.
- Automatic delivery selects plugins with company configuration rows.
`deferred` waits for a later startup, configuration change, or other
work notification.
- This does not replace required agent lifecycle participation or
establish that external mounts are unused.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 9befc66a44 Retain bounded Daytona acquisition failure observations (#15736)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI-agent work and reports failed runs.
> - Some runs acquire a Daytona sandbox before model execution.
> - Acquisition has one budget for creation, setup, and inline cleanup.
> - A timeout currently carries cleanup ownership but loses the step
that failed.
> - This pull request carries a bounded observation through the existing
error envelope.
> - Operators can identify the first failed step without exposing
provider responses or changing recovery.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

An acquisition timeout reports pending allocation cleanup without the
first failed step. The provider already knows its current step, but that
evidence is discarded at the worker boundary. A setup failure followed
by slow cleanup is also indistinguishable from slow creation.

**Expected behavior**

The immediate setup-failure report should contain a fixed phase and
bounded elapsed/budget values. Cleanup ownership, original messages,
deadlines, retry policy, and task behavior should remain unchanged.

**Steps to reproduce**

Use the provider regression fixtures to stall creation, workspace setup,
shell detection, expiry configuration, or sentinel upload. Also fail
setup early and let cleanup consume the remaining budget. The previous
source emits no phase diagnostic.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Base commit: `98e3cec78e8461774022a5ba0a777b09d4d16b96`.

**Deployment mode**

Hosted and self-hosted installations that use the Daytona sandbox
provider and enable Sentry.

Related public changes: #13979 established failed-allocation cleanup
ownership; #14097 preserves the provider acquisition budget; #15637
carries bounded workspace-transfer evidence. Duplicate searches found no
existing acquisition-phase diagnostic patch.

## What Changed

- Capture the first acquisition failure before inline cleanup. Keep the
observation if cleanup later reaches the deadline.
- Add an optional, validated observation to the existing
creation-cleanup envelope for acquire calls. Old ownership envelopes
remain valid. Malformed observations do not alter cleanup.
- Bind immediate reporting to an actual RPC error with matching company,
environment, and run ownership. Project only three bounded fields from
private host evidence.
- Add provider, SDK, actual worker/client, PostgreSQL cleanup,
collector, and real-Sentry regressions. Document the evidence limits.

## Verification

- Passed 404 focused tests across the SDK cleanup envelope, complete
Daytona provider suite, diagnostic collector, actual built worker/client
subprocess, and mandatory real-Sentry SDK suite.
- Passed 10 focused PostgreSQL cleanup-boundary cases. The filter
excluded 152 unrelated cases.
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` on the committed source.
- Full `pnpm test:run` is running. Final outcomes will be recorded
before merge.
- Independent source review passed. Replacing the provider with the
original source fails all 8 new phase/timing assertions. Replacing the
host boundary with the original source fails all 3 owned diagnostic
cases while 7 negative cases remain clean.
- CI passed: 54 successful checks and 2 expected Storybook skips. This
includes all server, workspace, serialized-server, Runner, browser,
build, canary, and real-Sentry SDK lanes.
- Greptile scored the committed source 5/5 with no review threads.
- No live provider operation, task replay, runtime configuration change,
or deployment was performed.

## Risks

Low risk: this only adds optional diagnostic evidence. The first
observed failing phase does not prove an upstream cause. Elapsed time
ends at that observation, not at completion of later cleanup. Evidence
is process-local and accompanies immediate failure reporting;
post-restart reports cannot reconstruct it. No historical run or lease
is backfilled. The wire schema remains v1 and cleanup ownership parsing
is unchanged.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 3d1d5294d9 Drain idle plugin workers before automatic sleep (#15599)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip runs autonomous work through agents, schedules, and
plugins.
> - Automatic idle sleep must preserve accepted work and unfinished
cleanup.
> - Every enabled plugin currently blocks sleep, including unused
providers.
> - An enabled flag or package version cannot prove that a worker is
idle.
> - This change adds a live worker drain under the existing owned hold.
> - Idle workers can allow sleep while unknown work stays protected.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #15522. Related: #15391 adds plugin readiness for agent admission;
this change concerns instance sleep and does not replace that contract.

**Subsystem affected**

Plugin worker lifecycle and automatic idle sleep.

**Problem or motivation**

A workspace with no pending work cannot sleep when any plugin is
enabled. Removing that check alone would lose accepted RPCs, background
tasks, or cleanup after a caller timeout.

**Proposed solution**

Require a live `onIdleDrain` handshake from each worker. Close admission
in both processes for the exact owner and expiry. Count accepted work
until completion. Continue checking durable work separately.

## What Changed

- Add bounded worker holds, exact-owner release, automatic expiry, and
an abort signal for plugin-owned background work.
- Count host and worker requests through their real completion receipts.
Keep timed-out work counted. Check active notifications and terminal
routes.
- Accept enabled plugins only when their current workers provide
matching runtime receipts. Missing workers, old SDKs, crashes, invalid
replies, and unknown cleanup still prevent sleep.
- Let unused Daytona workers opt in. Once a worker contacts the
provider, it remains a blocker for that process lifetime. This
restriction avoids treating its existing timeout and terminal-close
behavior as a cleanup receipt.
- Document the plugin author contract. No schema or user-facing API is
added.

## Verification

- All hosted CI checks passed on 6ffb682894, including all server,
runner, workspace, build, typecheck, and end-to-end checks. One
unrelated OpenCode transport test hit a five-second timeout and passed
on rerun.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passed.
- `pnpm build` passed.
- Focused Vitest: 293 tests passed across worker admission, real
child-process RPC, durable idle checks, and Daytona.
- Adjacent worker manager and duplex tests: 119 passed.
- Real child-process tests cover late worker completion, a host write
after caller timeout, stale owners, closed admission, and release.
- SDK tests cover hook failures, busy workers, expiry without another
request, and late acknowledgements after expiry.
- Initial long local run: 17,202 passed, 10 failed. Five failures
involved parent-directory skill fixtures; four of those were already
reproduced and passed in an isolated worktree. One HTTP test had a
socket hang-up; all 66 tests in that file passed on rerun. The other
four used new tests with runtime modules loaded before the follow-up
edits; all pass in the fresh focused run above. A clean build and
full-suite rerun at the final commit are running in an isolated
worktree. No full-suite pass is claimed.
- Follow-up: 44 focused tests passed, including repeated owned holds
without an intervening normal request. Worker status changes now
invalidate an in-progress scan.
- Apex follow-up: 13 idle tests, 119 adjacent worker tests, 71
instance-settings route tests, and server typecheck passed. A real
queued notification completes its write while preparation is in flight;
synchronous and async session callback failures are logged.
- Diff whitespace and added-line secret/private-reference scans passed.

## Risks

- Plugins are trusted code. A hook must account for work outside SDK
RPCs and keep it quiescent until its signal aborts. There is no
package-name or manifest-only exemption.
- This first change targets unused workers. Used Daytona workers remain
awake until remote cleanup receipts are complete. Restarting does not
bypass durable lease and recovery checks.
- Unknown completion remains a blocker, including after a worker crash.
This can retain cost but cannot authorize sleep from a timeout alone.
- Enabled jobs, schedules, credentials, integrations, and other durable
work remain blockers. Durable wake ownership is separate follow-up work.
- Rollback restores the blanket plugin blocker. No data migration is
required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used repository inspection, reasoning, code
editing, and command execution. The runtime did not report an exact
model revision or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 24429024e7 feat: add Fireflies connector and summary-ready routines (#13890)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps gives agents governed access to external tools through stored
credentials.
> - Routines start work when an external service sends an event.
> - Fireflies provides meeting transcripts and summaries through an
official hosted MCP server.
> - This PR adds that connection and accepts signed meeting events
through the shared app webhook flow.
> - Agents can review completed meetings with the same permissions and
audit records as other work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Operators need agents to read Fireflies meetings and start follow-up
work when a summary is ready. The Apps catalog lacks Fireflies. The
shared app webhook flow needs to accept its signed deliveries.

**Proposed solution**

Use the official Fireflies MCP endpoint with OAuth or a vaulted bearer
API key. Extend the existing Another app or script flow with signed
webhook support. Verify the raw-body signature and pass the JSON payload
as external data. Select Meeting Summarized in Fireflies. Deduplicate
identical signed deliveries, including setup deliveries.

**Alternatives considered**

A separate REST connector would duplicate the governed MCP path.
Polling, legacy V1 payloads, and automatic provider-side webhook
registration are outside this change.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps and Scheduled Routines
surfaces. It adds a provider to those systems. It does not introduce a
second integration framework.

**Additional context**

A GitHub search found no existing Fireflies issues or PRs. Provider
references and verification limits are in
`doc/connections/FIREFLIES.md`.

## What Changed

- Add the official Fireflies catalog definition, generated registry,
provider evidence, and branded artwork.
- Reuse Access → Connect, dynamic discovery, Permissions, vault storage,
policy, and audit behavior.
- Classify Fireflies sharing, movement, and access revocation as writes.
- Preserve Off and Ask first restrictions during OAuth reauthorization
and API-key replacement. New actions retain normal defaults.
- Add `app_webhook` authentication to the shared Another app or script
flow. Accept bearer tokens or raw-body HMAC-SHA256. Preserve earlier
`fireflies_hmac` triggers and revision snapshots for compatibility.
Existing text columns need no migration.
- Verify `X-Hub-Signature` or `X-Hub-Signature-256` against the exact
request body. Preserve generic event payloads and deduplicate identical
signed requests.
- Keep the routine wizard generic. Show one webhook URL and secret in
Another app or script. Keep all new app webhook event names
provider-neutral. Keep provider setup instructions in the connector
documentation.
- Pass generic webhook JSON to the task in an explicit external-data
block, capped at 16,384 characters. Keep strict meeting validation for
existing legacy Fireflies triggers.

## Verification

- Feature implementation commit `0882dc8a1`: all 54 CI checks passed;
two conditional Storybook checks skipped. This includes full tests,
typecheck, build, browser E2E, canary dry run, and security checks.
Greptile rated this commit 5/5; all review threads are resolved.
- Full local `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates passed
on the final code. Targeted connector, gateway, webhook, revision, and
UI suites passed during implementation. After the provider-neutral
follow-up, all 84 app-webhook and routine-service tests passed; the
final payload-to-task assertion also passed in the 72-test routine suite
and a clean-config rerun.
- The long local `pnpm test:run` invocation started before the final
edits and was stopped after the final-commit CI suites passed. It
reported one generic webhook test failure while those files were
changing; that test and the entire routine suite passed on the final
source, including a clean-config reproduction. The interrupted local run
is not counted as a full-suite pass.
- In the embedded browser, completed official OAuth consent and
discovered 20 live actions. Real meeting listing, transcript retrieval,
and summary/action-item retrieval succeeded as the selected agent.
Turning a live read Off blocked its test; catalog refresh preserved the
restriction.
- Embedded-browser Another app or script setup, back/save/resume, narrow
layout, and a signed synthetic Fireflies delivery succeeded. The UI
reported authentication passed without creating a task. Fixtures cover
signature tampering, malformed requests, ordinary app event names,
duplicate/setup deliveries, rotation, revisions, pause/archive, and
company isolation.
- Existing MCP browser suite: 8 passed and 2 provider-dependent cases
skipped. Branding checks passed; connector artwork and webhook setup
were checked at desktop/mobile widths and in light/dark modes.
- An unauthenticated POST to a correctly formatted public webhook URL
reached the staging tenant verifier through the existing Cloud gateway.
- A real Fireflies webhook delivery remains unverified. A staging
callback is available for the operator walkthrough. Live API-key
authorization, credential expiry, and a new meeting's summary completion
were not tested against the provider. Fixtures cover these protocol and
lifecycle paths where applicable.

- Storybook follow-up `c54174faa`: 27 production-component stories cover
every UI change, with a source-to-story map in the connector
documentation. Static Storybook build, UI typecheck, token gates, and
Playwright checks for all stories and the mobile footer pass. All PR
checks passed for this Storybook follow-up; Greptile reviewed
`c54174faa` at 5/5.

## Risks

- Fireflies may change its hosted MCP tools or OAuth behavior. Tool
discovery stays dynamic. Experimental search/fetch tools are not
required.
- Public webhook setup requires HTTPS and a separate signing secret.
Fireflies normally emits events for meetings owned by the configuring
account.
- Reauthorization touches shared MCP permission code. Regression tests
cover existing restrictions, new actions, connection removal, and other
gateway callers.
- Webhook receipt grants no tool access. The routine agent still needs
an authorized Fireflies connection.

- New generic triggers rely on provider event subscriptions. Without a
sender-supplied idempotency key, changed request bytes count as a new
event. Existing legacy Fireflies triggers retain summary-only filtering
and per-meeting deduplication.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, model `gpt-6-astra`. Used reasoning, repository editing,
code execution, and embedded-browser testing. The runtime did not expose
a context-window size.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 6fe8e30625 feat(apps): add Railway connection and governed deployment tools (#13415)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps gives agents governed access to external resources.
> - Operators need to inspect Railway services, read logs, deploy code,
and run container commands.
> - Railway offers hosted MCP with OAuth, but broad remote actions hide
their internal operations.
> - This PR adds a branded connection and fixed direct operations
through the existing gateway.
> - Separate SSH keys enable container commands under the same grants
and policies.
> - Operators can require approval for an action and inspect the
resulting audit record.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Apps catalog, connection setup, gateway execution, and connection
documentation.

**Problem or motivation**

Agents need Railway access through Paperclip. Operators need to grant
and revoke that access, inspect available actions, and govern deployment
and container operations without giving agents provider credentials.

**Proposed solution**

Reuse hosted MCP OAuth, vault storage, catalog discovery, grants, and
the gateway. Probe the actual credential before enabling fixed GraphQL
operations. Use a dedicated grant-owned SSH key for bounded container
commands.

**Alternatives considered**

A catalog entry alone cannot execute the missing operations. The hosted
general agent has opaque internal effects. An unrestricted CLI runtime
can bypass action policy and inherit ambient credentials.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends the existing MCP Tool Gateway & Apps path and the Connected
Apps direction in ROADMAP.md. It does not add a plugin or parallel
connection service.

Related PRs #311, #939, and #7861 concern hosting Paperclip on Railway.
They do not add this outbound Apps connection. The separate shared
agent-picker fix is #13414 and is not included here.

## What Changed

- Add the generated Railway catalog entry, official marks, provenance,
and OAuth setup guidance.
- Add fixed service/deployment status, bounded logs, and
redeploy/restart/rollback tools. Block source deployment until the
provider can atomically bind the approved repository and commit.
- Verify API access with an explicit workspace before exposing direct
tools.
- Add grant-owned SSH key setup and a bounded runner with host
verification, target checks, isolated state, and cleanup.
- Block the opaque hosted railway-agent and accept-deploy actions.
Preserve normal Allowed defaults and Ask-first policies for other
actions.
- Quarantine new or changed Railway schemas after initial discovery,
including reconnect.
- Add provider, lifecycle, gateway, SSH, UI, and browser fixtures.
Document setup, limitations, and the release checklist.

## Verification

- Security follow-up: removed the unsafe source-deployment mutation.
Direct calls and old active catalog entries are denied before any
upstream request, including normalized aliases. Refresh marks retired
entries disabled. All 386 focused Railway, catalog and gateway tests
passed, and server TypeScript checking passed. Full [GitHub
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35139421144)
passed on d86530ab9, including typecheck, build, all tests, runner
checks, and browser tests. Superagent passed and confirmed the P2 fix.
Greptile reviewed the same commit at 5/5 with no findings.

- CI follow-up: fixed the missing Railway SSH operation in the OpenAPI
document, including its request schema, operator-only authentication,
and error responses. The failure reproduced locally before the fix; all
403 selected API, Railway, catalog, and artwork tests passed after it.
Synced current master and resolved the catalog/artwork conflicts.

- After rebase: 440 focused provider, lifecycle, gateway, catalog, and
container-panel tests passed. AppDetail and AppsConnect passed another
196 tests.
- Full typecheck, build, token gates, and the gallery browser check
passed after rebase.
- During implementation, full build and the gallery browser check
passed. Shared generic-MCP fixtures covered OAuth callback/state/issuer
binding and failure paths.
- Local live consent and tools/list succeeded. There were 44 active
hosted actions and two blocked actions. A workspace-bound API probe and
direct project/service/environment reads succeeded. The inspected
project had no deployed services. No provider mutation ran.
- Full GitHub CI passed on commit 303340f19, including all
server/workspace test groups, typecheck, build, runtime verification,
release dry run, and browser tests. The original local full-run attempt
was incomplete; the complete automated suite is now verified in CI.

Manual review: connect Railway, review the actual actions, install for
an agent, and run a resource read through the gateway. Choose Ask first
before testing a deployment mutation. Configure a dedicated key only
when container access is needed.

**Release qualification is still open.** Live agent gateway reads/logs,
rejected and approved deployment calls, refresh/revoke, public HTTPS
consent, and SSH enrollment/commands/cleanup need an authorized
disposable service. The passing API diagnostic does not replace those
tests. See doc/connections/RAILWAY.md and RAILWAY-REVIEW.md.

## Risks

Overall risk is medium. New runtime behavior is gated to Railway
connections, but the PR changes shared catalog, credential lifecycle,
and gateway code. A regression in those paths can affect other Apps
connections. The highest-impact operations are Railway deployments and
container commands.

- Provider consent can authorize an entire workspace. Catalog labels are
not local resource allowlists. Direct tools check target membership, and
provider permissions still apply.
- Shell commands have broad internal authority. Action policy cannot
approve each internal shell step. Timeouts close the local connection
but cannot guarantee remote child-process termination.
- Log and command output may contain application secrets that pattern
redaction cannot recognize.
- Source deployment is unavailable until the provider supports atomic
repository/commit binding. Existing deployments can still be redeployed,
restarted or rolled back.
- No database migration is required. Rollback can remove promotion and
direct dispatch while preserving connection data and the generic MCP
path.
- Live Railway qualification must still pass before release acceptance.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution and browser testing.
An independent read-only security agent reviewed the local
implementation. The exact serving model ID and context window were not
exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 250deab910 fix(runner): keep healthy native sessions alive (#13261)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Native sessions keep a provider process and its work alive across
control-plane operations.
> - A hidden 15-minute turn deadline stopped work even when the agent
timeout was zero.
> - A one-hour runner lifetime and fixed connection lease added two more
limits.
> - Recovery also rejected goal commands because it reconstructed their
startup summary with the wrong protocol version.
> - This pull request removes implicit duration limits and renews
authenticated leases in the harness.
> - Healthy sessions can continue without model action or a user
interface change.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #13092 and #12845. Related: #13163 covers sandbox recovery after
app restarts; this change covers session duration and lease renewal.

**What happened?**

A native Codex session stopped after 15 minutes while a tool was still
running. The agent had `timeoutSec: 0`. Recovery then rejected a
`session.goal.get` startup command with `invalid provider startup
ownership fence`.

**Expected behavior**

An unlimited session keeps working while its provider and authenticated
controller remain healthy. Lease maintenance is transparent. Explicit
timeouts, cancellation and revoked authority still take effect.

**Steps to reproduce**

Start a native session with `timeoutSec: 0` and run a tool beyond 15
minutes. Before this fix, the runtime cancels the turn. A recovery
startup that uses a goal command also exposes the protocol-version
mismatch.

## What Changed

- Honor the agent turn timeout. Zero disables the timer. Long explicit
durations use timer chunks to avoid Node timer overflow.
- Default native runner lifetime to unlimited. Keep bounded startup,
reconnect and control-operation deadlines.
- Renew leases over the authenticated connection. Persist renewal before
the reply. Validate identity, epoch and expiry. Handle duplicate
requests and a lost reply on reconnect.
- Freeze renewal during warm ownership transitions and terminal
handling.
- Validate persisted goal startup commands with protocol v2.
- Add duration, renewal, ownership, recovery and real-process regression
tests. Update runner protocol and recovery docs.
- Add no UI components or controls. Renewal requires no model output or
user action.

## Verification

Current head: `348e369c35c5da8bb8be378f4b35dcf6f40882e7`. [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34649767113).

- All 32 checks pass on this head. The two Storybook checks are skipped
as expected. CI includes full build, typecheck, runner verification,
browser suites, server tests and the canary package dry run.
- Greptile reports 5/5 on this head. All review threads are resolved,
and the security scan passes.
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` locally.
- Passed 219 native-runtime and controller tests, including fake-clock
tests for three weeks of renewal and 30-day explicit timeouts. Six
denial tests confirm that renewal cannot extend expired, revoked or
mismatched authority.
- Passed 337 executor, cancellation and restart-recovery tests, plus 278
Rust runner-core library tests.
- Passed a real runner with a silent fake Codex provider across its
original lease expiry. Runner PID, provider PID, thread and active turn
stayed unchanged. Warm-attach recovery tests also pass.
- Passed all 83 plugin-worker tests and 159 of 161 workspace-runtime
tests locally. The two remaining assertions passed with a canonical
macOS temporary directory, as did the changed runtime fixture. The full
affected server shard passes in CI.
- An unchanged GitHub callback-ordering test failed once in CI, passed
locally in isolation, and passed its one test-shard retry. The final CI
summary is successful.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` sweep was interrupted after dependency
setup failures and load-related timeouts. Identified failing suites
passed in isolated reruns after the dependency repair. The complete test
matrix passed remotely in CI.

## Risks

- Deploy the controller and runner together to enable renewal. Older
peers keep their existing bounded lease behavior.
- Unlimited runtime permits long resource use until completion, explicit
cancellation, configured timeout or loss of valid authority.
- Lease renewal changes authenticated protocol handling. Regression
tests cover stale, revoked and mismatched authority, lost replies and
warm handoff behavior.
- Simulated multi-week tests and a real lease-boundary test do not
constitute a weeks-long production soak.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository inspection, code execution
and TypeScript/Rust test tools. The exact backend revision and
context-window size are not exposed in this session.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 60469a08e0 feat(agent-login): resume an active login session and permit concurrent login terminals (#12861)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent authentication uses server sessions, plugin workers, and
browser login panels.
> - A page reload loses an active login session, and one worker permits
only one login terminal.
> - These limits cause lost work and prevent two owners from logging in
through one worker.
> - This pull request lets the browser resume active sessions and lets
workers serve concurrent login terminals.
> - The benefit is reliable login recovery with a bounded process-wide
route limit.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

It improves agent credential login recovery and concurrent login
terminal handling.

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting (multiple of the above).

**Current behavior**

A page reload loses the active login session. A shared plugin worker
rejects a second login terminal.

**Proposed behavior**

The browser reads and resumes the owner's active session. A worker
supports multiple login terminal routes under a process-wide ceiling.

**Reason and benefit**

Owners keep login progress after a reload. Two owners can log in through
one worker without removing the route limit.

**Breaking changes**

None. The change adds owner-scoped read routes and changes login
terminal concurrency.

## What Changed

- Replace the single worker login route with maps keyed by host route
and worker session identifiers.
- Add a process-wide login route ceiling and release each reserved slot
on every exit path.
- Add owner-scoped active-session reads with consistent negative
responses and private cache control.
- Keep the device-login prompt while the session has an active public
status.
- Add a durable setup-token cancel fallback for a lost in-memory
session.
- Resume active sessions when the agent configuration or onboarding
panel mounts.
- Remove routine unmount cancellation and keep explicit Cancel behavior.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclip/server test` — server route, service, and
plugin-worker-manager suites.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclip/plugin-sdk test` — worker RPC host suite.
- `cd ui && npx vitest run
src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx
src/components/OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`.
- `cd ui && npx tsc -b`.
- `tests/e2e/onboarding.spec.ts` — reload during login.
- CI must pass on this pull request.

## Risks

The change affects agent authentication and the sandbox-to-host
boundary. Route cleanup must release every reserved slot. Owner checks
must prevent cross-owner session access. Tests cover route cleanup,
owner scope, reload recovery, and concurrent worker routes.

## Model Used

Codex, OpenAI GPT-5, tool use and code review support. The

Dotta 51ad751e0b feat(runner): integrate Codex native execution (#12616)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source control plane for teams of AI agents.
> - Agent runs currently use direct adapters and their established
finalization paths.
> - The new runner package needs one production integration before it
can execute a real provider through the server.
> - That integration must not change direct adapters or expose
unsupported providers.
> - The rollout must also preserve native runs that were already
recorded when the feature flag changes.
> - This pull request adds a default-off, Codex-only native execution
path and its authority boundary.
> - The benefit is a recoverable production vertical slice with explicit
compatibility guards.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting server orchestration and adapter selection.

**Problem or motivation**

The runner package exists, but the server cannot yet start and recover a
governed Codex run through it. A careless integration could also route
existing direct adapters into the native runtime or lose cancellation
and finalization state.

**Proposed solution**

Add a hidden `paperclip_runner` adapter for Codex. Keep it behind the
default-off instance flag. Bind native execution, resume, cancellation,
semantic tool authority, and finalization to the recorded company,
issue, run, and coordinator identities. Leave every direct adapter on
its existing path.

**Alternatives considered**

A multi-provider launch was rejected because only Codex has the complete
production bridge in this series. Replacing direct adapter execution was
rejected because the runner remains experimental.

**Roadmap alignment**

This work supports governed tool access, action attribution, and
self-healing runs. It keeps the integration narrow and default-off.

## What Changed

- Add the Codex-only native session executor and persisted resumption
path.
- Add run-scoped semantic tool projection, authorization, receipts, and
idempotency.
- Add audited native cancellation with durable issue and coordinator
binding.
- Add result fencing so a recorded result cannot reacquire the provider
and run twice.
- Reject fresh runner starts when the rollout flag is off while
preserving recorded native recovery.
- Keep direct adapters outside native status, cancellation, record
creation, and finalization.
- Add focused conformance, recovery, cancellation, status, portability,
and compatibility coverage.

## Verification

- GitHub Actions is the authoritative test environment for this large
stack.
- The PR policy and lightweight stack checks run while this is a middle
PR.
- The full required suite runs when this PR becomes the lowest unmerged
or top PR.
- Greptile will review this exact delta after the branch is pushed.

## Risks

- The main risk is routing a legacy adapter into native execution.
Runtime selection and heartbeat tests cover that boundary.
- The next risk is stale or cross-company cancellation. Durable binding
checks and transactional audit persistence cover it.
- The adapter remains hidden and default-off. Only Codex is admitted.
- There are no database migration, lockfile, or GitHub workflow changes
in this PR.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 3e28d64a72 fix(plugin-worker-manager): queue and replay pre-bind login pseudo-terminal frames (#12173)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip routes plugin worker messages to agent sessions.
> - The login pseudo-terminal route opens after the host receives the
open reply.
> - `readline` can deliver later frames from the same pipe read before
that reply continuation runs.
> - The host dropped early output and exit frames.
> - The fix queues valid early frames, preserves arrival order, and
replays them after the route opens.
> - The route uses bounded memory and closes fail-closed when a bound
breaks.
> - The final tests also pin child issue ordering so the serialized
suite remains deterministic.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Fixes #12122

## What Changed

- Add a bounded queue for login pseudo-terminal output and exit frames
during route opening.
- Validate session ids, chunk types, and per-chunk limits before queue
insertion.
- Bound the queue by 10,000 frames and 8 MiB of characters.
- Charge retained worker session identifiers against the character
bound.
- Preserve arrival order and stop replay after the first valid exit.
- Drop repeated exits without changing the first exit position or code.
- Bound the repeat-exit lookup and clear queued state on all terminal
paths.
- Add regression tests and fixture support for coalesced frames,
ordering, limits, cleanup, and log safety.
- Pin issue numbers in the child-wake test so its expected child order
remains deterministic.

## Verification

- Build the plugin SDK with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk
build`.
- Run `npx vitest run
server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` from the repository
root.
- Run `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts` from
the repository root.
- The focused plugin worker suite passes 66 of 66 tests at the prior
reviewed head.
- The issue service file passes 120 of 120 tests in two isolated runs at
the current head.
- Confirm that GitHub Actions passes all required checks.
- Confirm that Greptile reports 5/5 with no unresolved review threads.
- Storybook visual regression remains skipped because the PR has no
`storybook-visual` label.

## Risks

- The queue adds bounded memory use while the login pseudo-terminal
route opens.
- A queue limit breach closes the route and prevents unbounded
buffering.
- A hostile worker can fail only its own login route when it breaches a
bound.
- The first valid exit closes the route, so later records do not reach
the session.
- The child-wake test now uses distinct issue numbers to match the
service sort contract.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, extended reasoning, tool use, and code review
support. The runtime does not expose a separate context-window value.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 445547c989 feat(duplex): run the Daytona sandbox callback bridge over Node HTTP/2 (#12120)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Sandbox providers carry agent work through controlled execution
channels
> - The Daytona callback bridge uses a bespoke line-framed protocol over
its duplex channel
> - The bespoke protocol adds framing work and does not use the Node
transport that already supports multiplexed streams
> - This pull request carries raw bytes across the channel, adds a Node
HTTP/2 bridge, and selects it for Daytona
> - The benefit is one authenticated, multiplexed callback session with
queue_v1 as the bounded fallback

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

The packages/plugins Daytona provider and the shared duplex execution
path.

**Problem or motivation**

The Daytona callback bridge uses a bespoke line-framed protocol over the
provider duplex channel. This adds protocol work and limits stream
handling.

**Proposed solution**

Carry raw bytes through the cross-layer channel. Add an authenticated
Node HTTP/2 host server and sandbox client gateway. Select http2_v1 for
Daytona and retain queue_v1 as the fallback.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep the current duplex_v1 protocol. This keeps the bespoke framing path
and does not provide one HTTP/2 session for callback streams.

**Roadmap alignment**

ROADMAP.md lists Daytona under cloud and sandbox agents. This change
improves the shipped Daytona provider path.

**Additional context**

The branch adds no dependency. Node 24 provides the http2 module. The
host token check and canonical path parser remain the single dispatch
path.

## What Changed

- Carry raw Uint8Array chunks through the adapter, plugin, worker,
runtime, and Daytona layers.
- Encode bytes as base64 only across the JSON-RPC hop, because JSON has
no binary type.
- Add the bounded host HTTP/2 server and the in-sandbox HTTP/2 client
gateway.
- Authenticate every stream with the per-run bridge token before route
work.
- Parse the path once and reuse the canonical result for route and
forwarding work.
- Select http2_v1 for Daytona and fall back once to queue_v1 when the
client preface is absent.
- Add transport, session, stream, and fallback telemetry.
- Mark HTTP/2 as the preferred transport and queue_v1 as the
soft-deprecated fallback.

## Verification

- `npx vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src` — 990 passed and 4
skipped.
- `npx vitest run
server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager-duplex.test.ts` — 32 passed.
- `npx vitest run --config
packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/daytona/vitest.config.ts` — 220
passed and 6 skipped.
- `npx tsc --noEmit` in `packages/adapter-utils`, `packages/shared`,
`packages/plugins/sdk`, and `server` — clean.
- No `package.json` or `pnpm-lock.yaml` file changed.
- The live Daytona test skips when `DAYTONA_API_KEY` is absent.
- The root `npx tsc --noEmit` command has a pre-existing missing
`packages/adapters/droid-local` reference on this branch and on
`master`.

## Risks

- The transport change affects several duplex layers and could expose
byte-boundary errors.
- A missing HTTP/2 client preface falls back once to queue_v1 and
records `preface_missing`.
- The host token check and canonical path parser must remain on the
shared dispatch path.
- The live Daytona test needs `DAYTONA_API_KEY` and does not run in this
agent sandbox.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5, tool-enabled coding agent with repository inspection,
GitHub CLI, and shell execution.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 63df7ad2b3 feat(login): use the login pseudo-terminal for Codex device login and de-Claude the shared channel (#12020)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agent adapters use provider-specific login flows
> - Codex device login needs a live pseudo-terminal (PTY), while the
shared channel still uses Claude-specific names
> - The old streamed-exec path does not provide the prompt transport
that Codex needs
> - This pull request moves Codex device login to the shared login PTY
and removes the dead streamed-exec path
> - The benefit is one controlled login transport with fail-closed
capability checks and safer credential reads

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Codex device login used a streamed-exec path that did not provide the
required prompt transport. The shared login channel also exposed
Claude-specific names outside Claude code.

**Expected behavior**

The host selects a fixed login command from trusted adapter data. Codex
login uses the provider login PTY. Providers without that capability
fail closed.

**Proposed solution**

Use a server-controlled session home, create and validate it as a fresh
0700 directory, read credentials from one validated descriptor, and
rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep the shared login PTY as the single transport. Do not keep the
removed streamed-exec path because it cannot provide the required prompt
transport.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change supports the planned login transport work. It does not add a
separate roadmap item.

## What Changed

- Route Codex device login through the shared login PTY transport.
- Select the login command from a closed internal command key.
- Carry a server-controlled session home through the launch contract.
- Create and validate the session home as a fresh 0700 directory owned
by the login user.
- Read the credential file with descriptor-relative, no-follow path
walking and final descriptor checks.
- Gate the login route and run lease on the provider login PTY
capability.
- Rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family.
- Remove the streamed-exec transport value, selector field, driver
branch, and related tests.
- Hide Codex login in the user interface when the provider lacks the
login PTY capability.

## Verification

- Server unit suites pass: 89/89.
- Adapter-utils suites pass: 262/262.
- Codex-local suites pass: 326/326.
- Credential-read reader suite passes: 20/20.
- Daytona login PTY suite passes: 30/30.
- Device-login suites pass: 56/56.
- TypeScript checks pass for server, adapter-utils, and UI.
- GitHub Actions must pass after pull request creation.
- Greptile review must reach 5/5 with no open P2 findings,
recommendations, or follow-ups.

## Risks

- Providers without a login PTY capability lose Codex login support by
design.
- The credential read rejects invalid ownership, mode, type, path, and
size.
- The launch-time sandbox directory race remains outside the threat
model because the login runs inside the sandbox and a hostile sandbox
already controls its credential.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code review assistance. The exact
context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the runtime.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 05b35d4669 feat(duplex): bound aggregate duplex route resource consumption with a process-owned byte ledger (#12003)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip runs AI agents through adapters and sandboxed execution
targets.
> - Duplex routes retain bytes across route data, broker messages,
decoder buffers, and readiness replay.
> - Per-route limits bound each route but do not bound the total
retained bytes across many routes.
> - A process-owned ledger must charge each retained buffer before
allocation and release the charge during cleanup.
> - This pull request adds the aggregate ledger, connects it to host and
sandbox duplex paths, and adds route coverage.
> - The benefit is a fail-closed process-wide byte limit that keeps
concurrent duplex work within a safe resource budget.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

This change affects packages/adapter-utils and server duplex
orchestration.

**Problem or motivation**

Many routes can each stay below their per-route limits while their
combined retained bytes exceed a safe process budget.

**Proposed solution**

Add a process-owned aggregate byte ledger. Charge route data, broker
bytes, decoder buffers, and readiness replay bytes before allocation.
Release each charge during cleanup. Use a separate sandbox_process
decoder cap for the in-sandbox path.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep only per-route limits. This does not bound the combined process
use. Set a fixed limit at one call site. This misses retained bytes in
other duplex paths.

**Roadmap alignment**

This is a tightly scoped reliability and resource-safety improvement. It
does not duplicate a roadmap feature.

**Additional context**

The aggregate ceiling uses a safe 256 MiB default. An invalid override
falls back to that default and reports the rejected value.

## What Changed

- Add a process-owned aggregate byte ledger for duplex route resource
use.
- Charge and release route data, broker forward and response bytes,
decoder buffers, and readiness replay bytes.
- Bound host-to-worker pending writes and standard input transport
bytes.
- Add a separate decoder cap for the sandbox_process path.
- Make invalid aggregate-ceiling overrides fall back to the safe default
without host startup failure.
- Add adapter-utils and server tests for charging, release, rejection,
cleanup, and many-route aggregate limits.

## Verification

- pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec tsc --noEmit
- pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec tsc --noEmit
- Run the focused adapter-utils duplex ledger and execution-target
tests.
- Run the server aggregate-ledger route test.
- Confirm all required pull request checks pass on this branch.

## Risks

The ledger touches several duplex buffer paths. A missed release could
reduce later capacity until process restart. The tests cover charge,
release, rejection, cleanup, and route aggregation. The change uses a
safe default when configuration input is invalid.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex. The runtime model ID and context window are not
exposed to this task. The model used tool calls, shell commands, and
code review workflow support.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip c5050396c7 fix(daytona-duplex): chunk host-to-sandbox writes and make a transport close legible (#11986)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Paperclip runs agent work through adapters and sandbox providers
> - The Daytona duplex path sends host input through a provider
pseudo-terminal WebSocket
> - Large messages exceed the provider limit, and a transport close can
look like a process exit
> - This pull request chunks UTF-8 input and carries transport-close
state through the duplex path
> - The benefit is reliable large input and accurate loss reporting

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The Daytona duplex path sent a full input payload as one WebSocket
message. A payload above the provider limit closed the channel. The wait
path also mapped a non-numeric exit result to a process exit without
exit data.

**Expected behavior**

The provider must receive large input as ordered UTF-8 chunks. A
transport close without exit data must record `transport_closed`, while
a numeric exit must record `provider_exit`.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start a Daytona duplex session.
2. Send an input payload larger than 65536 bytes.
3. Observe that one message closes the provider channel.
4. End a session without a numeric exit code.
5. Observe that the loss reason reports a process exit.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Commit `1761e79ec9097c65d94f90a8ba20416f8ab718a6`.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source with the Daytona sandbox provider.

## What Changed

- Add a shared UTF-8 byte chunker with a 32768-byte cap.
- Route both Daytona pseudo-terminal write paths through the chunker.
- Preserve multi-byte UTF-8 sequences across read-side chunks.
- Carry an explicit `transportClosed` state through the worker and host
wait paths.
- Record `transport_closed` for a reason-less transport close and
`provider_exit` for a numeric exit.
- Keep orderly completion suppression for both exit paths.

## Verification

- The Daytona plugin suite passes 194 tests.
- The adapter-utils broker, codec, and telemetry suites pass 73 tests.
- The plugin SDK duplex and worker RPC host suites pass 37 tests.
- The server plugin worker manager duplex suite passes 78 tests.
- The execution target sandbox and ACPX execute suites pass 257 tests.
- TypeScript checks pass for adapter-utils, plugin SDK, server, and the
standalone Daytona plugin.

## Risks

The chunk size adds a loop for large input payloads. The 32768-byte cap
stays below the provider limit. The optional loss field preserves
compatibility for other providers.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, extended reasoning, tool use, and code execution.
The runtime does not expose a separate context-window value.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 10d2781a29 feat(sandbox): add the duplex bridge broker, gated transport selection, and fixed observability (#11769)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Sandbox adapters provide controlled execution for untrusted provider
environments.
> - The sandbox channel needs one persistent duplex transport with
strict host control.
> - The transport must remain off unless the instance setting and
provider capability both allow it.
> - The host must detect loss, bound resource use, and expose only safe
telemetry.
> - This pull request adds the broker, gated selection, kill-switch
wiring, fixed observability, and real-process proof.
> - The benefit is safer sandbox execution with bounded failure behavior
and inspectable transport results.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public issue exists for this change. The related pull requests are
#11738 and #11750.

**Problem or motivation**

The sandbox duplex channel needs a host-controlled broker, strict
transport gates, bounded provider input, and safe loss telemetry.
Without these controls, a provider can cause replay, resource growth,
unsafe endpoint selection, or data exposure through telemetry.

**Proposed solution**

Add a host broker with nested time limits, request limits, one-shot
loss, and per-id deduplication. Select duplex transport only when the
instance setting and provider capability both equal true. Assign the
endpoint and nonce on the host. Reject invalid readiness data and use
the file bridge on failure. Add fixed redacted telemetry and a
real-process end-to-end test harness.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep the file bridge as the only transport. This avoids new channel
behavior but does not provide persistent duplex operation for supported
sandbox providers.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change supports the Cloud / Sandbox agents section in ROADMAP.md.

## What Changed

- Add the duplex bridge broker with bounded forward, response, and
gateway wait budgets.
- Bound concurrent requests, lifetime requests, and request-id bytes
before retention or forwarding.
- Select duplex transport only when both required gates are true.
- Assign the loopback port and nonce on the host and enforce a
liveness-only READY frame.
- Fall back to the file bridge after invalid readiness, contamination,
bind failure, or timeout.
- Carry the kill switch through the server, acpx engine, and six local
adapters.
- Add fixed, redacted duplex telemetry with a provider allowlist.
- Add a real-process end-to-end harness for readiness, round trips,
loss, and teardown.
- Add regression coverage for limits, loss, UTF-8 splits, concurrency,
and telemetry dimensions.

## Verification

- Adapter-utils, server, and Daytona typechecks pass locally.
- Adapter-utils tests pass, including the codec, broker,
execution-target sandbox, and real-process harness.
- Server kill-switch tests pass.
- Live Daytona tests pass with the required provider key and skip
without that key.
- The root pnpm-lock.yaml file has no diff.
- The branch contains ten commits after origin/master.

## Risks

- Duplex transport remains disabled unless both gates equal true.
- A provider remains an untrusted boundary and needs least-privilege
credentials and quotas.
- The server telemetry recorder stays deferred; the default recorder
does nothing.
- A provider that pre-binds the host port causes a fail-closed fallback
to the file bridge.
- The change adds no database migration and changes no root lockfile.

OpenAI GPT-5, exact model family GPT-5, large context window, reasoning,
and tool use. The model assisted with Git handoff validation and PR
preparation. The implementation commits came from the engineering
worktree.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 33eb68b3ae fix(server): end the duplex route on the pre-bind bounds when frames arrive before the bind (#11860)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The host and a plugin worker talk over a duplex channel route with
bounds on buffered frames and total bytes
> - A worker can batch its data and exit frames with the open reply, so
those frames arrive before the route binds and before a listener
attaches
> - Two of the route bounds did not hold on that pre-bind path: a shared
limit let the pre-open hold swallow an over-limit frame before the
buffered-frame bound could end the route, and the route end discarded
chunks a later listener still needed
> - This pull request gives the pre-open hold its own ceiling above the
buffered bound, and keeps the buffered chunks across a route end
> - The benefit is a duplex route that enforces its bounds and preserves
valid data, even when a worker batches frames ahead of the bind

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No existing GitHub issue covers this. Filing it directly here, following
the bug report template.

**What happened?**

Two duplex channel route bounds in
`server/src/services/plugin-worker-manager.ts` did not hold when the
data and exit frames arrived in the open-reply read batch, before the
route bound:

- The pre-open hold and the pre-bind buffered-frame bound shared one
limit. When a caller lowered the buffered bound, the hold dropped the
overflow frame as a protocol error before the buffered bound could end
the route, so the route never ended.
- The route end discarded the buffered chunks. A frame can end the route
during the replay, before a listener attaches, and the chunks the host
accepted before that frame are valid data.

**Expected behavior**

The pre-open hold uses its own ceiling, above the buffered bound, so the
replay after the bind lets the buffered bound end the route. A route end
keeps the buffered chunks so a listener that attaches after the end
still drains them.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open a duplex channel where the worker batches several data frames
with the open reply.
2. Lower `maxPreBindBufferedFrames` below the batch size.
3. Observe the route fails to end on the buffered-frame bound, or a
listener that attaches after an end-during-replay never receives the
chunks buffered before that end.

**Paperclip version or commit**

`933749e01f74e82ce5d315c071be534d04e01158`

**Deployment mode**

Local dev (`pnpm dev`) and server unit tests.

**Agent adapter(s) involved**

None — this is host/plugin-worker transport infrastructure, not
adapter-specific.

**Database mode**

Not database-related.

**Access context**

Any board or agent path that runs a plugin worker over a duplex channel
route.

## What Changed

- Give the pre-open frame hold its own ceiling
(`MAX_DUPLEX_CHANNEL_PRE_OPEN_HOLD_FRAMES`), separate from the pre-bind
buffered-frame bound, so lowering the buffered bound still ends the
route instead of being pre-empted by the hold.
- Keep the buffered chunks on a route end instead of discarding them, so
a listener that attaches after an end-during-replay still drains the
data the host already accepted.
- Add two regression tests that batch frames with the open reply, so
both bounds run through the pre-bind path deterministically.

## Verification

- `cd server && npx vitest run
src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager-duplex.test.ts` — 24/24 tests pass,
including the two new regression cases.

## Risks

Low risk. This only changes bound bookkeeping on an internal transport
path (frame hold ceiling and end-time buffer retention); it does not
change the wire protocol or any public API. The new ceiling is a
constant above the existing buffered bound, so pre-open holds are still
capped.

## Model Used

diff review and drafted this PR description from the commit and code
history. No functional code in this PR was authored by Claude — the fix
itself is Priya Raman's, preserved with original authorship intact.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 7c8064da1b test(runtime): assert order-independent port invariants for concurrent siblings (#11754)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages work for AI agents.
> - The workspace runtime starts isolated services for concurrent
workspaces.
> - A runtime test assumed that one concurrent lane always received the
base port.
> - The allocator guarantees distinct ports, but scheduling decides
which lane receives the base port.
> - This pull request changes the test to assert allocator guarantees
without lane-order assumptions.
> - The benefit is a stable test that still checks the complete bounded
port range.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The concurrent sibling workspace runtime test failed intermittently
because it assumed array index 0 received the base port.

**Expected behavior**

The test must accept either lane as the base-port owner while it checks
the allocator invariants.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start two isolated workspace runtimes with `Promise.all`.
2. Force the second lane to start first.
3. Run the old assertions.
4. Observe that the test expects the wrong lane to receive the base
port.

**Paperclip version or commit**

This change targets the current `master` branch.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source test suite.

**Installation method**

Built from source with pnpm.

**Database mode**

Not database-related.

## What Changed

- Replace lane-order assertions with order-independent port invariants.
- Assert distinct ports, the base lower port, and the bounded upper
port.
- Keep concurrent startup, service URL checks, and persisted-row checks.

## Verification

- The target test passed 12 consecutive runs.
- The full test file passed 128 of 128 tests.
- Both forced lane orderings passed with the new invariants.
- TypeScript reported no errors in the changed file.
- CI will run after this pull request opens.

## Risks

Low risk. This pull request changes one test file and does not change
runtime code.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code execution enabled. The model
reviewed and prepared the pull request metadata.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 8161244284 feat(sandbox): add opt-in duplex command-stream foundation (capability, protocol, bounded host route, frame codec) (#11738)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip provides a control plane for companies that run AI agents.
> - Sandboxed agents need a safe execution path for persistent command
streams.
> - The existing callback transport does not provide a bounded, generic
duplex route.
> - The host must control capability access, route identity, protocol
limits, and close behavior.
> - This pull request adds an opt-in duplex command-stream foundation
across the sandbox layers.
> - The feature stays inert because no current provider declares the
capability.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting (multiple of the above)

**Problem or motivation**

Sandbox command execution needs a persistent host-to-sandbox stream. The
current callback bridge uses a file transport and does not provide this
generic route.

**Proposed solution**

Add a fail-closed provider capability, generic worker protocol messages,
a host-owned bounded route, cross-layer service mediation, and a
versioned newline-delimited frame codec.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep the file transport and add feature-specific commands. This does not
provide one reusable duplex contract or host-owned route bounds.

**Roadmap alignment**

This work supports the completed Cloud / Sandbox agents roadmap area and
the safe autonomy goal in the product definition.

**Additional context**

The change passed a two-stage security review. The final code review
verdict was approve after fixes for active-stream bounds and
service-layer capability mediation.

## What Changed

- Add the opt-in `duplexCommandStream` provider capability with
fail-closed narrowing.
- Add duplex open, write, stop, and close requests and data and exit
notifications to the plugin worker protocol.
- Add a host-owned route with bounds for chunk size, cumulative bytes,
lifetime, protocol errors, pending requests, and pre-bind buffering.
- Add close acknowledgement handling with worker retirement when the
close remains unconfirmed.
- Wire `openDuplexChannel` through the execution target, runtime
service, and plugin worker.
- Add a versioned frame codec with shared wire-compatibility vectors and
split UTF-8 handling.

## Verification

- `server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager-duplex.test.ts` passes 18
tests.
- `server/src/__tests__/environment-execution-target-duplex.test.ts`
passes 11 tests.
- `packages/adapter-utils/src/duplex-frame-codec.test.ts` passes 38
tests.
- `server/src/__tests__/sandbox-capability-contract.test.ts` passes 15
tests.
- Setup-token pseudo-terminal regression tests pass 47 tests.
- Server TypeScript check passes.
- Continuous integration will run the full required test, typecheck,
build, and policy checks.

## Risks

- Providers that opt into the capability must implement the complete
worker protocol.
- Route limit defaults can close a stream when a workload exceeds the
configured bounds.
- The capability remains disabled for current providers, so current
production behavior does not change.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 (`gpt-5`), with tool use and code execution. The model
reviewed and prepared this pull request from the supplied implementation
and verification record.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip c1c46f1e4e feat: Claude login on the new-agent page before agent creation (#11347)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The Claude local adapter supports subscription login through a
sandbox
> - The new-agent page must show login before the user creates an agent
> - Test results must not expose raw sandbox diagnostics or secret
values
> - This pull request adds the login UI to both Test lanes and closes
the diagnostic boundary
> - The branch also adds durable cleanup recovery for failed sandbox
teardown
> - Reusable sandboxes must retain both their recorded teardown
configuration and a valid lifecycle path until destruction succeeds
> - The benefit is a usable login flow with fixed public checks,
redacted server logs, and recoverable sandbox cleanup

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Related public work:
[#9488](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9488) adds
first-class recognition for `CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN` in headless and
remote runs. Related public issue:
[#2681](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/issues/2681) requests
Claude Code subscription support. This pull request adds the login
transport and new-agent UI flow that those changes do not provide.

**Subsystem affected:** Claude local adapter, server login probes,
sandbox provider setup, cleanup recovery, and the new-agent UI.

**Problem or motivation:** The Test lanes did not show the sandbox login
panel in all supported cases. Test results also exposed raw probe
diagnostics, and JSON escapes could end secret redaction early.

**Proposed solution:** Surface the login capability through the bundled
provider manifest. Prepare the same probe runtime in the ACP lane. Send
diagnostics only to redacted server logs. Keep Test checks on fixed
public messages. Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude
and Anthropic hosts. Consume JSON escapes during redaction. Preserve
failed sandbox cleanup state across retries and restarts, and prevent
deletion from severing the lifecycle context of a live reusable sandbox.

**Alternatives considered:** Keep raw diagnostics in Test checks or
trust login URL text from the sandbox. Both choices increase information
exposure. Keep separate probe behavior in the ACP lane. That choice
would leave the two Test lanes inconsistent.

## What Changed

- Surface the sandbox login panel on both Test lanes.
- Reconcile the bundled Daytona plugin manifest so
`supportsSetupTokenLogin` reaches the UI capability gate.
- Prepare the ACP Test lane with the same probe runtime as the CLI Test
lane.
- Add the `claude_acp_login_probe_unavailable` warning when the ACP
probe cannot run.
- Send raw sandbox diagnostics only to redacted server logs.
- Keep Test checks on fixed public messages in the ACP, managed-config,
and CLI paths.
- Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude and Anthropic
hosts.
- Redact JSON and escaped-JSON secret values, including escaped quotes
and backslashes.
- Preserve orphan cleanup records across provider failures, restarts,
and unavailable plugins.
- Atomically block environment deletion while a live reusable sandbox
lease still depends on it.
- Verify pending cleanup destroys plugin sandboxes with the provider
configuration recorded on the lease, even after the current environment
configuration changes.

## Verification

- Head under review: `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241`.
- Focused environment route/service/runtime coverage passes: 196 tests
across 3 files.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passes.
- `pnpm build` passes.
- The full Vitest run completed with 4,754 passing and 28 failing tests.
All 23 source-test failures reproduce unchanged on parent head
`58cfe61a33191ce03d965d65085d26064b4888ba`; the other 5 are duplicate
executions from stale `server/dist` output. The failures are unrelated
macOS path/listener and scheduler-fixture failures, so there is no new
bad commit for bisect to localize.
- All required CI checks pass for the current head, including build,
typecheck/release registry, all server and workspace shards, serialized
server suites, canary, and e2e.
- A fresh Greptile review for `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241`
reports 5/5, “safe to merge,” with no blocking failure remaining.

## Risks

- A probe or redaction change could hide useful server diagnostics.
- An allowlist change could reject a valid Claude login URL.
- Cleanup recovery changes could affect provider teardown ordering.
- An environment with a live reusable sandbox can no longer be deleted
until the owning issue or execution workspace completes teardown.
- The implementation keeps public Test messages fixed and sends detail
to redacted server logs.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex — exact model ID: GPT-5; tool use and code
execution enabled; extended reasoning enabled. The implementation author
used AI-assisted development.

DottaandPaperclip 10d0555189 fix(interactions): authorize resolvers consistently (#11376)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Issue interactions give agents and people a structured decision
record.
> - Resolver routes used different authorization rules.
> - Some routes blocked valid agents, including task watchdogs with
normal issue access.
> - The API did not show who could resolve a pending interaction.
> - This pull request gives every interaction kind one resolver policy
evaluator.
> - The benefit is a clear decision path with consistent governance and
company isolation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Fixes: #8087

Refs: #7403

Related PR: #11082 proposes board-only confirmation rules. This change
keeps human-only review as an explicit policy.

**What happened?**

Agents could create issue interactions. Some resolver routes still
required board access.

This left valid agent confirmations pending. Task watchdogs could see
the same problem without board identity.

**Expected behavior**

Every interaction kind must use one resolver policy contract.

The contract must support `anyone`, `not_creator`, and `human_only`. It
must also apply all normal governance controls.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Create a `request_confirmation` interaction as an agent.
2. Resolve it with another authorized agent.
3. Observe the board-only denial.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The problem exists on `master` before this change.

**Deployment mode**

Local development with `pnpm dev`.

## What Changed

- Add canonical policies for `anyone`, `not_creator`, and `human_only`.
- Use one server evaluator for every interaction kind.
- Apply named addressees, company limits, review rules, and task
watchdog scope.
- Charge cross-issue resolutions to the existing per-run action limit.
- Return the effective resolver audience in attention and interaction
data.
- Show the audience, governance choices, and denial reasons in the board
UI.
- Add telemetry, API documents, product documents, and regression
fixtures.
- Add migration provenance for safe legacy behavior.
- Make migration `0218` safe for complete replays and partial prior
runs.

## Product Rules

- An interaction records a response. It does not grant authority for the
next action.
- `anyone` lets any authorized issue participant respond.
- `not_creator` requires a responder other than the interaction creator.
- `human_only` requires an authorized person.
- A named addressee, company policy, or governed action can narrow the
audience.
- These controls cannot widen the audience.
- A task watchdog uses the same rules as an ordinary agent.
- A task watchdog does not receive board authority.
- An agent resolution on another issue uses the shared cross-issue
action limit.
- Legacy pending interactions keep their earlier restrictions.
- The UI shows the effective audience and a permanent denial reason.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck`
- `pnpm exec vitest run
packages/db/src/issue-thread-interaction-resolver-policy-migration.test.ts`
- The focused PostgreSQL test applies migration `0218` twice.
- The test also completes a partial prior run and preserves existing
provenance.
- The latest GitHub head has 29 successful checks.
- The opt-in Storybook visual check skipped as expected.
- Greptile reports 5/5 with no open comments.

## Risks

- New interaction writes use `anyone` by default.
- Callers must select `not_creator` or `human_only` when they need
stricter review.
- Legacy pending interactions keep the old creator and human
restrictions.
- Migration `0218` fills only missing provenance fields during recovery.
- Cross-issue resolutions can reach the existing action limit.
- The shared evaluator affects every interaction kind.
- Route, service, database, shared contract, and UI tests cover these
rules.

> This work matches the Agent Reviews and Approvals direction in
`ROADMAP.md`. It does not duplicate a planned item.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime does not expose the exact deployment ID
or context window.

The agent used reasoning, repository tools, shell commands, and test
execution.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 6b7e0814a0 feat(acp): stream Daytona sandbox agent output and remove the host output poll (#11049)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app that manages AI agents for work
> - Sandbox providers let agents run in remote and isolated environments
> - Daytona session commands need a path that sends agent output to the
host without host polling
> - Host polling adds delay and repeats provider output work
> - This pull request adds typed execute.log notifications and a log
sink for incremental output
> - This pull request adds an optional ACP session stream with
final-result replay protection
> - The benefit is lower output delay while the default flags keep
current behavior unchanged

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting. The change spans the plugin SDK, Daytona provider,
adapter utilities, and server execution services.

**Problem or motivation**

The Daytona ACP bridge polls a host output file while an agent command
runs. This adds delay and can repeat work. The host also needs a safe
route for provider output chunks.

**Proposed solution**

Add a typed `execute.log` notification with host-issued invocation
correlation. Add an ordered log sink to the environment execute path.
Add an optional ACP session-log path that parses newline-delimited JSON
frames and removes the host output poll for that path.

**Alternatives considered**

Keep the output-file poll as the only path. This keeps the current
behavior but does not provide timely output. The new path stays behind
flags, so the existing path remains the default fallback.

**Roadmap alignment**

This change supports the shipped Cloud / Sandbox agents milestone in
`ROADMAP.md`, including Daytona support.

## What Changed

- Add the typed `execute.log` worker-to-host notification and
company-scoped host route.
- Add ordered `stdout` and `stderr` chunk delivery before the final
execute result.
- Add the Daytona session log sink and the optional ACP streamed session
path.
- Add monotonic frame handling so live and final output reach the host
once.
- Keep `useLogStream` and `streamAgentSessionOutput` off by default.
- Add unit and integration coverage for the notification, execution
target, runtime, and Daytona paths.

## Verification

- Run adapter-utils tests: 445 tests pass locally.
- Run server environment tests: 73 tests pass locally.
- Run Daytona plugin tests: 131 tests pass locally.
- Run TypeScript checks for shared, adapter-utils, and server.
- Review the pull request checks after GitHub completes them.
- All required GitHub checks pass on the current head.

## Risks

The new paths change output delivery only when a feature flag enables
them. The final execute result remains available for parsing and
fallback. The main risk is a provider stream or frame-order error; the
final-result parser limits that risk.

Michael NguyenandClaude Opus 4.8 f2f168f6a1 fix(plugins): seed proactive company scopes before worker setup() + events.subscribe resolver parity (LOOA-695) (#10113)
- [x] I searched the GitHub PR list for similar PRs (dedup search). No
open PR touches the proactive `events.subscribe` ordering path; #10103
(merged) is the predecessor whose ordering bug this fixes.

## Thinking Path

The gateway worker's outbound push path is permanently dead
(`eventSubscriptions: 0`, `notifier.received: 0`, `decisions.delivered:
0`). The plugin loader authorizes the worker's **proactive company
scopes only AFTER `startWorker` resolves**, but a proactive plugin
issues its one-shot `events.subscribe` calls from `setup()` — which runs
*while `startWorker` is still awaiting the worker's initialize
response*.

So at subscribe time `proactiveCompanyScopes` is still empty →
`contextForWorkerMessage` resolves no scope → the governed-access gate
rejects every subscribe with `company context is required`. The gateway
subscribes once and never retries, so `eventSubscriptions` stays 0 for
the worker's life. This is an **ordering bug in the #10103 fix**, not a
new method — same #9557 governed-access class as `config.get` (#10092)
and `state.get` (#10103).

Confirmed live at the 18:21:21Z worker respawn on `3093c5e` (host log),
and again at the 19:01:04Z restart (still `events.subscribe: company
context is required`, `eventSubscriptions:0`).

## What Changed

1. **Loader ordering** (`plugin-loader.ts`): load
`registry.listConfigs(pluginId)` in a new step 4b **before**
`startWorker`, and thread the configured company set into
`WorkerStartOptions.proactiveCompanyScopes` so the worker handle is
authorized *before the child process issues any host call*. The same
rows are reused for startup config delivery (step 5b) — no second
`listConfigs` round-trip. The runtime config-change path
(`routes/plugins.ts`) still refreshes scopes via
`setProactiveCompanyScopes` (unchanged).
2. **Handle seed** (`plugin-worker-manager.ts`):
`createPluginWorkerHandle` seeds its `proactiveCompanyScopes` set from
options at creation, before spawn.
3. **Resolver/gate parity** (`plugin-worker-manager.ts`):
`referencedCompanyId(method, params)` now mirrors the SDK gate
`requestedCompanyScope` exactly in the functional direction — adds
`events.subscribe → params.filter.companyId` (how `ctx.events.on(name, {
companyId }, fn)` issues its subscribe), and declines the gate's
wildcard cases (`companies.list`, `scopeKind:"company"` without
`scopeId`) so proactive access only ever grants a **single explicit
configured company, never "all"**. Answers LOOA-693 AC#4 (host/gate
extraction parity) in the functional direction.

## Tests

New `plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` cases (drive a real worker):
- a `setup()`-time `events.subscribe({ filter: { companyId } })` for an
options-seeded company is **admitted** (fails on prior code — no options
seed, no filter parity);
- an unconfigured company stays **denied**;
- an unseeded worker stays **denied**.

Full `plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` suite: **21 passed**. Server `tsc
--noEmit`: clean. All PR CI green (typecheck, server/workspace suites,
e2e, build, security scans).

## Risks

- **Scope-widening risk (primary).** The change grants proactive host
access keyed off configured company rows. Mitigated by: the authorized
set is exactly `registry.listConfigs(pluginId).map(companyId)`; wildcard
cases (`companies.list`, company-scoped key without `scopeId`) resolve
to `null`, never `{ kind: all }`; empty/whitespace ids dropped; an empty
config set grants zero proactive access. This is the surface
SecurityEngineer must sign off (see Security gate).
- **In-invocation path unchanged.** Calls carrying a host-issued
`paperclipInvocationId` keep the existing strict single-company match;
the proactive branch only applies when there is no invocation id — so no
regression to the enforced request path.
- **Blast radius.** Loader step 4b is best-effort: a `listConfigs`
failure logs and proceeds with an empty seed (fails closed — no push,
not a crash), matching today's behavior.

## Model Used

Claude Opus 4.8 (`claude-opus-4-8`) via Claude Code (agent: CTO).

## Security gate

Touches the company-scope resolution path (same surface as #10103).
Routed through **SecurityEngineer review before merge** (tracked on
LOOA-696) — must not widen beyond configured companies; in-invocation
strict single-company match untouched; wildcard cases deliberately
declined in the proactive direction.

## Verification once live

- Host log clean of `events.subscribe: company context is required` at
worker start
- loader logs `eventSubscriptions: N>0`
- beat `notifier.received` / `decisions.delivered` move on real
issue/approval activity

Parent: LOOA-629 (outbound push half of "gateway active"). LOOA-695.

Michael NguyenandPaperclip 3093c5e694 fix(plugin-worker): resolve a company scope for proactive worker→host calls (#10103)
Host authorizes the plugin's configured companies as the worker's proactive scopes, set by the loader right after the #10092 config-delivery step and refreshed on operator config-save. At the single worker→host chokepoint, a no-invocation call (notifier drain, decision reconcile, mirror drain, digest, aging, liveness beat) that references a configured company resolves to that company's scope, so the #9557 governed-access gate admits it. One change covers the full proactive surface (state.*, issues.*, approvals.*, config.get, secrets.resolve, etc.).

Safety: never widens beyond configured companies (any other company stays denied); in-invocation calls keep #9557's strict single-company match untouched.

Fixes the Slack gateway DM round-trip for LOOA-629. Security review PASS (LOOA-693); non-blocking LOW follow-up tracked in LOOA-694.

DottaandPaperclip 931eec3fbf feat(mcp) [split 4/8]: wire gateway runtime and Smoke Lab (#9559)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters,
UI surfaces, and operator verification
> - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated
or human review
> - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs
stay below the 100-file review limit
> - This pull request is split 4/8 and focuses on gateway runtime, Smoke
Lab, plugins, and server wiring
> - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while
preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

- Related parity reference: #9534
- Problem: The policy core needs runtime execution, endpoint guards,
route registration, heartbeat integration, and adapter MCP injection to
become operational.
- Proposed solution: Adds the remaining server routes/wiring/consumers,
runtime tests, adapter-utils MCP contracts, and Claude/Codex injection
implementations required by the server layer.
- Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or
rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor
of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves.
- Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access
work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate
roadmap initiative.
- Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/03-server-tool-access`.
- Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete
eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate
remains empty.
- Requested review: SecurityEngineer for gateway, endpoint guard, token
issuance, and runtime wiring; Greptile on every PR.

## What Changed

- Adds the remaining server routes/wiring/consumers, runtime tests,
adapter-utils MCP contracts, and Claude/Codex injection implementations
required by the server layer.
- Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable.
- Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven
stack levels.

## Verification

- `pnpm typecheck`
- Changed server test set — 26 files, 382 tests passed
- Affected server adapter tests — 38 tests passed after concrete adapter
boundary move
- Adapter-utils and Codex focused tests — 76 tests passed

## Risks

- Remote endpoint validation, token handling, and runtime supervision
are security-sensitive and can fail closed or deny legitimate access if
misconfigured.
- Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers;
mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy.
- Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from
#9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge.

Dotta a1835cfa5e [codex] Harden plugin runtime invocation scope (#6547)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI-agent companies through a company-scoped
control plane.
> - Plugins extend that control plane, but plugin workers still call
back into host APIs.
> - Those worker-to-host calls need the same company boundary guarantees
as normal API routes.
> - Plugin action handlers also need authenticated actor context from
the host instead of trusting caller-supplied params.
> - This pull request hardens plugin bridge/action scope and keeps
plugin operation issues out of normal issue surfaces.
> - The benefit is safer plugin execution with clearer authorization
boundaries and better test coverage.

## What Changed

- Added host-owned invocation context plumbing for nested plugin worker
calls.
- Added actor context to plugin `performAction` calls and test harness
helpers.
- Enforced company invocation scope on worker-to-host calls and filtered
company lists to the active invocation scope.
- Extended plugin action route tests for board and agent actor context,
spoofed company params, and cross-company rejection.
- Extended plugin worker manager coverage for invocation-scope
propagation.
- Filtered typed and legacy plugin operation issue origins from default
issue/inbox lists.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk build`
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run
packages/plugins/sdk/tests/host-client-factory.test.ts
packages/plugins/sdk/tests/testing-actions.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts`

Note: embedded Postgres issue-service tests reported host-level Postgres
init skip for 47 tests; the non-embedded targeted tests passed.

## Risks

- Medium: plugin host authorization paths are sensitive, and external
plugins may rely on previously loose company params.
- Mitigation: the change only tightens calls when the host attached a
company invocation scope and includes explicit tests for board, agent,
and nested worker calls.

DottaandPaperclip 38c185fb8b [codex] Add agent permissions and controls plan (#6386)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies by keeping
task ownership, approvals, and operator control inside one control
plane.
> - Agent permissions and plugin-hosted company settings sit on the
boundary between autonomy and governance.
> - V1 needs scoped task assignment rules, plugin extension points, and
clearer company access surfaces without weakening company boundaries.
> - The branch builds the core authorization service, plugin SDK/host
APIs, and UI simplifications needed to support those controls.
> - Paperclip EE plugin surfaces were intentionally moved out of this
core PR per review direction, so this PR now carries only the public
core/plugin infrastructure work.
> - The latest updates preserve the PAP-9937 branch changes that belong
in this PR, remove the `design/` artifacts, and exclude the experimental
`plugin-briefs` package.
> - Greptile feedback was applied through the authorization/audit paths
and the final cleanup commit was re-reviewed at 5/5 with no unresolved
Greptile threads.
> - The benefit is safer assignment control with extension hooks for
richer permission products while preserving simple defaults for normal
operators.

## What Changed

- Added scoped task-assignment authorization decisions and routed
issue/agent assignment mutations through the authorization service.
- Added plugin SDK and host APIs for company settings slots,
authorization policy/grant management, assignment previews, and bridge
invocation scope propagation.
- Simplified core company access UI and moved advanced controls behind
plugin-provided settings surfaces.
- Added retry-now affordances for blocked issue next-step notices.
- Added protected-assignment enforcement for persisted
agent/project/issue policies, including explicit-grant fallback
behavior.
- Added incremental principal-access compatibility backfill for active
agent memberships and role-default human permission grants.
- Added the Markdown code block wrap action fix from the latest branch
changes.
- Removed `design/` artifacts from the PR and removed
`packages/plugins/plugin-briefs` from the final diff.
- Addressed Greptile feedback for plugin actor sanitization, legacy
membership handling, audit pagination, unknown grant-scope metadata, and
startup test mocks.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 2 files passed, 54
tests passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 62

- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/plugin-access-authorization-host-services.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` -> 3 files
passed, 28 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` -> passed.
- `git diff --check` -> passed.
- `node ./scripts/check-docker-deps-stage.mjs` -> passed.
- `CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` -> passed
with no lockfile update.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.interaction.test.tsx` -> 1 test passed.
- `git ls-files design packages/plugins/plugin-briefs | wc -l` -> 0.
- GitHub CI on `40cd83b53` -> all checks passed, merge state `CLEAN`.
- Greptile on `40cd83b53` -> 5/5, 102 files reviewed, 0
comments/annotations added, 0 unresolved review threads.
- Confirmed the PR diff contains no `design/`,
`packages/plugins/plugin-briefs`, `pnpm-lock.yaml`, or
`.github/workflows` changes.

## Risks

- Medium: task assignment authorization paths are behaviorally stricter
for protected/private policy data, so existing plugin-authored policies
may block assignment until explicit grants or approval flows are
configured.
- Medium: plugin-host authorization APIs expand the surface area
available to trusted plugins and need careful review for company
scoping.
- Low: startup now performs a principal-access compatibility backfill,
but the migration and runtime backfill use conflict-tolerant inserts.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip b24c6909e8 Harden remote sandbox runtime probes, timeouts, and installs (#5685)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Each agent runs inside a sandbox environment so its CLI is isolated
from the host
> - Sandbox-backed adapter runs go through a small set of shared helpers
— `ensureAdapterExecutionTargetCommandResolvable`, the sandbox callback
bridge runner, and per-adapter `SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND` strings
> - When standing up new sandbox provider plugins, the existing helpers
timed out, missed install fallbacks, or leaned on assumptions that only
held for E2B
> - Local adapters (`claude-local`, `codex-local`, `gemini-local`,
`opencode-local`) needed slightly hardened probes so they could install
themselves and validate inside *any* remote sandbox transport, not just
E2B
> - This pull request bundles those runtime fixes so future sandbox
provider plugins inherit a working baseline
> - The benefit is that adding a new sandbox provider plugin no longer
requires touching adapter-utils or each local-adapter probe — the
supporting infra is already correct

## What Changed

- `packages/adapter-utils/src/execution-target.ts`: introduce
`DEFAULT_REMOTE_SANDBOX_ADAPTER_TIMEOUT_SEC = 1800` and
`resolveAdapterExecutionTargetTimeoutSec(...)`. Local and SSH adapters
keep the historical "0 means no adapter timeout" behavior;
sandbox-backed runs without an explicit `timeoutSec` get an explicit
30-minute default so remote installs and warm-up don't time out at the
per-RPC default. Plumbed `timeoutSec` through
`ensureAdapterExecutionTargetCommandResolvable` so install probes inside
a sandbox honor adapter-level overrides instead of the bridge's 5-minute
default.
- `packages/adapters/opencode-local/src/index.ts`: switch
`SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND` from `npm install -g opencode-ai` to `curl
-fsSL https://opencode.ai/install | bash`. The npm package reifies four
large prebuilt-binary subpackages in parallel even though only one
matches the host arch; on bandwidth-constrained sandboxes that blew
through the 240s install budget. The official installer fetches one
arch-specific binary and adds `$HOME/.opencode/bin` to PATH via
`~/.bashrc`, which the sandbox-callback-bridge login-shell script
already sources.
- `packages/adapters/{claude,codex,gemini,opencode}-local/`: harden
remote-target probes — pass `--skip-git-repo-check` for Codex when
probing outside a repo, normalize permission flags for Claude, and add
`*.remote.test.ts` coverage that exercises the remote-sandbox path
explicitly for each adapter.
- `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-install-command.{ts,test.ts}`
(new): add `buildSandboxNpmInstallCommand` helper.
`server/src/adapters/registry.ts` + new
`server/src/__tests__/adapter-registry.test.ts`: wire adapter install
commands so they fall back to a writable `$HOME/.local` prefix when
global install isn't available.
- `server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` + new
`server/src/__tests__/fixtures/plugin-worker-delayed.cjs`: pin per-call
timeout overrides so plugin worker exec calls honor the caller's timeout
instead of the worker's default.

## Verification

- `pnpm typecheck`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage
packages/adapter-utils/src/execution-target-sandbox.test.ts
packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-install-command.test.ts`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage
server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/adapter-registry.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/claude-local-adapter-environment.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/claude-local-execute.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/gemini-local-adapter-environment.test.ts`
- `pnpm exec vitest run --no-coverage
packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.remote.test.ts
packages/adapters/opencode-local/src/server/test.remote.test.ts
packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/codex-args.test.ts
packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/execute.remote.test.ts
packages/adapters/gemini-local/src/server/execute.remote.test.ts`

All passing locally.

## Risks

- Touches shared `adapter-utils` and several `*-local` adapters. The
30-minute default applies only when both (a) the target is
`remote+sandbox` and (b) no `timeoutSec` is configured — local + SSH
paths are unchanged. New test coverage was added alongside each behavior
change to pin the contracts.
- Switching OpenCode's install command to the official installer is a
behavior change for any operator running OpenCode inside a remote
sandbox. Local installs are unaffected (the `SANDBOX_INSTALL_COMMAND`
only runs when an adapter is being installed inside a sandbox).
- Low risk overall — no migrations, no API surface change.

Devin Foley fe3904f434 Stabilize runtime probes and Codex env tests (#5445)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies
> - Adapters expose a Test action that probes the configured runtime —
install, resolvability, hello — to give operators a fast yes/no on
whether an environment is healthy
> - The Codex test path was running its hello probe directly without
going through the managed-runtime preparation that production runs use,
so a healthy production setup could still report a probe failure
> - The plugin worker manager wasn't surfacing terminated workers
cleanly, leaving the runtime probe waiting on a dead worker until the
request timed out
> - This pull request routes the Codex test probe through
`prepareAdapterExecutionTargetRuntime` (so it sees the same managed
Codex home production sees), exposes `commandCwd` on
`createCommandManagedRuntimeClient` so callers can target a per-probe
directory without leaking the workspace `remoteCwd`, and propagates
plugin-worker termination as a usable error instead of a hang
> - The benefit is the Codex Test action mirrors production behavior
end-to-end, and probes against a terminated plugin worker fail fast
instead of timing out

## What Changed

- `packages/adapter-utils/src/command-managed-runtime.ts`: rename the
`remoteCwd` knob to `commandCwd` so callers can target a per-probe
directory without inheriting the workspace cwd; matching test coverage
in `command-managed-runtime.test.ts`
- `packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-callback-bridge.{ts,test.ts}`:
small fixes to keep callback bridge stop semantics deterministic
- `packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.ts`: thread the Codex
hello probe through `prepareAdapterExecutionTargetRuntime` +
`prepareManagedCodexHome` so the probe sees the same managed home
production sees; new `test.remote.test.ts` covers the remote probe path
- `packages/adapters/cursor-local/src/server/execute.ts`: small
probe-side cleanup that aligns with the new commandCwd contract
- `server/src/services/plugin-worker-manager.ts`: surface plugin-worker
termination as a structured error so callers fail fast; new
`plugin-worker-terminated.cjs` fixture and
`plugin-worker-manager.test.ts` cases pin the behavior

## Verification

- `pnpm vitest run --no-coverage --project @paperclipai/adapter-utils
--project @paperclipai/adapter-codex-local --project
@paperclipai/adapter-cursor-local --project @paperclipai/server` —
1749/1750 passing (1 unrelated skip)
- `pnpm typecheck` clean

## Risks

Low–medium. The `remoteCwd → commandCwd` rename is a parameter renaming
on an internal helper used only by adapter test/execute paths in this
repo. The plugin-worker-terminated path was previously a hang; failing
