Draft: Build agent-ready design proposal system (#16875)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - People need consistent UI patterns to review and control that work. > - The current board uses related layouts and controls with different spacing, type, and behavior. > - That drift makes it hard for a designer or an agent to build a new page from a reliable reference. > - Storybook can show the shared patterns and the states they need to support. > - This pull request adds design proposals, a local sandbox, and reusable UI controls so people can compare the patterns in context. > - The benefit is a clearer design system that agents can use to build consistent UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** `ui/` — React board UI and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** Board pages repeat visual and interaction decisions. Storybook did not provide a complete reference for task views, conversation states, typography, toolbars, tabs, and light/dark colors. People could not compare a proposed pattern with the running board in one place. **Proposed solution** Add a staged Design Proposals catalog with foundations, components, layouts, and page specimens. Add an opt-in sandbox. Reuse production components where possible. Include synthetic conversation states and shared controls so reviewers can compare and refine them. **Alternatives considered** Separate static mockups would not show keyboard behavior, responsive layout, or real component states. Rebuilding each page only in Storybook would allow the reference to drift from the board. **Roadmap alignment** This improves existing board UI and Skills Manager surfaces. It does not add a new control-plane capability. ## What Changed - Added dark and light color references, typography and conversation specimens, and component stories for buttons, tabs, toolbars, sidebar, popovers, activity, and task lists. - Added a local design sandbox with synthetic task conversation playback and representative states. - Shared collection toolbars and navigation patterns across task, agent, project, routine, skill, connector, and artifact pages. - Added the streamlined Skills tabs and a My Skills collection that uses the shared skill cards. - Restored saved-thread access during synthetic playback, kept connector searchbox semantics, and updated reproduction checks after moving trial stories. - Documented the proposed patterns and added focused UI, catalog, and browser checks. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `node scripts/storybook-catalog.mjs --check` passed. - Full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed after merging master. After the review fixes, focused UI typecheck, `pnpm build-storybook`, 23 Skills Sources tests, and all 15 Storybook typography browser tests passed. - Focused task-thread and system-notice suites passed: 251 tests. Connector Browse passed 84 tests; the connector, attachment, recovery, and Storybook flyout browser journeys passed locally. - A local full Vitest run hit one intermittent chat-channels integration failure; that test passed in isolation. GitHub CI [39347996059](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39347996059) passed on the exact latest commit: 55 successful checks and two skipped draft-only Storybook jobs. - Greptile reviewed the exact latest commit at 5/5 with no new comments or open review threads. GitHub reports the branch as cleanly mergeable. ## Risks - This PR changes 206 files and exceeds the repository's 100-file review target. Review by commit and consider a scoped split before merge. - Design Proposals are staged references. Fixture interactions do not prove API behavior, permissions, or provider execution. - UI changes to shared controls may affect pages outside the proposal sandbox. Focused browser checks and the full CI matrix passed. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The model used reasoning, code execution, browser inspection, and local tests. Earlier branch commits were also AI-assisted in this Codex conversation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details available in this session) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above where applicable - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Scott Tong <scott@scotts-mbp-m5-max.local> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: default new Codex agents to Paperclip Runner on Linux and macOS (#15683)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane for agent companies. > - People choose a harness when creating an agent. > - The server should resolve that harness to a qualified runner. > - Codex is the first harness in the staged default rollout. > - Saved agents must retain their execution choices. > - New Codex agents therefore use Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS/Linux targets, with an explicit Legacy override. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #16028, #15555, #15673, #15422, #15631, #15926, #15932, #16149. The runtime/install prerequisite and release repair are merged. This slice owns Codex creation, setup, configuration and preservation. Other harness defaults remain unchanged. It adds no database migration; incoming master migrations, required maps and regression coverage are retained. ## What Changed - Resolve `runner: auto | paperclip | legacy` at the common creation boundary across onboarding, API/CLI, hires, built-ins, plugins and imports. Freeze pending hires and export resolved execution choices. - Preserve existing runners on upgrades, unrelated edits and import updates, including compatible accounts, workspace settings, Codex effort and intentional clears. - Use the underlying harness picker and branding; put the runner override in Advanced. Use the shared dropdown and update production-component stories and creation contracts. - Support qualified Apple Silicon, Intel Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64. Linux requires GNU libc 2.39+. Disabled, external, unsupported and unqualified combinations retain their applicable Legacy execution. - Test the selected runtime/account/model/environment. Ordinary Connect probes eligible immutable managed targets and refreshes scoped discovery. Creation/discovery do not provision. Auth, dependency, incompatible-setting and cleanup failures remain actionable without changing runners. - Keep setup probes read-only, preserve local/SSH isolation and resolve packaged assets before staging credentials. Bound cleanup reads by the remaining absolute deadline; physically close every owned ingress socket before endpoint release. Unconfirmed cleanup retains recovery state. - Preserve validated completed-onboarding callbacks through startup recovery. First file-producing work belongs to the child task and uses the existing dependency/block handoff and task-scoped registration. - Reuse existing E2E fixtures, artifact checks, reporting and controls. Keep Docker/Cargo/native compilation remote. Paperclip tarballs contain no Codex payloads; official optional npm platform dependencies remain. ## Verification Current tested head: `1c03a8815672d82c264a9b08d4ea1984e8fae107`. **Merge-ready: required CI, fresh review, package qualification, Mac core acceptance and Test task/follow-up acceptance pass.** The existing attachment and native-continuity oracles independently verify both Test downloads, run attribution and unchanged native/provider/workspace identities. The maintainer authorized a code-owner-review exception for this PR only. The first Test setup failure and normal Board completion-review friction are retained below. Actual post-merge packages and private Cloud distribution remain separate qualification gates. - [Current CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38564241625): all 48 ordinary jobs and required verify/E2E pass. Attempt 1 retained six simultaneous host-shutdown cancellations. One failed-only retry passes those six lanes and two aggregates, preserving 40 successes. Actual integration checkout `53104c1` combines this head with master `c80`; it is not relabeled as the branch tree. Fresh exact-head Greptile 5/5, 30 resolved threads, no actionable findings. - [Exact-source package qualification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38565287239): nine applicable jobs pass, nine conditional jobs skip. Four remote native producers; Linux x64 clean install; Intel Mac, Apple Silicon and Linux ARM64 native startup/physical cleanup controls. All 18 tarballs/four daemon source/hash/manifest bindings and 343 migrations through 0344 verify. No Codex payload is packed. These hosted tarballs are not a published npm canary. - Normal Apple Silicon installation and credential-free native startup/cleanup pass using the packaged daemon, with no source build or provider turn. Fresh installed DB initialization passes. Upgrade 651a→1c03 preserves all three complete execution configs, accounts, ten recorded run profiles, paused budgets, active incidents, cost summaries and two historical unpriced events. Historical recovery state is retained. - Cleanup regressions: four delayed-read baseline failures become 15 passing deadline/authority controls. No-acknowledgement and prior-error socket ownership regressions become 12 passing controls. Direct runtime/server types, maps: 35 areas / 176 IDs, diff checks and independent reviews pass. Permission/auth/reconnect policy and the 10-second setup budget remain intact. - Existing source coverage includes creation/selection/imports, pending approvals, recovery, account/lifecycle handling, mounted forms, dropdowns and E2E support. Full typechecks/tests/build/token and applicable Storybook checks pass in the recorded current CI; no duplicate suite or weakened grader. - Literal 9546 live Mac proof: ordinary Auto Codex onboarding, useful document, real completed-child callback/reply, seven successful native runs, manual follow-up and independently downloaded1,101-byte child file. Existing Legacy title edit/reload preserves execution; two real Legacy runs produce independently checked15/34-byte files. These remain historical source records. - Current literal 1c03 Mac core acceptance passes independent checks: ordinary Auto native Codex onboarding without runner override; only timeout 180 seconds/concurrency 1 saved; six successful native runs and six serialized turns (maximum overlap 1); both same-task continuity checks and five mechanical callback checks; actual rendered parent reply and exact child downloads. The useful handoff advances from revision 1 to 2. Both files are 48 bytes, SHA-256 `8b742bd4e8123a7c078f0a8d9f3449fbfa8a320d7d90be641a2818db3c53d92c` and `f42db9774fa06e804ab7d596fc8b922a2b638921c418b87d0111151d290a6afe`; exactly one byte changes and old history remains. The agent is paused with zero active runs/errors. Both artifact work products have `isPrimary=false`, and descriptive titles fail a stricter title-helper assumption; these retained results are scoped editorial follow-up, not new merge gates. Six source-bound screenshots are uploaded and verified in the private primary QA report. - [Literal 9546 managed proof](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-38485488621-1/index.html): original 19 assertions and completed judge pass, four native turns, child-bound240-byte file and session/workspace continuity. Checkout reports a verified generated target-lock mutation; full final porcelain was not retained. Signed execution-image identity remains separate from Core source. - Actual 651a Test deployment succeeds on one owned/pinned target. One ordinary Auto API-key Connect then fails native cleanup before hire. Controller turn/drain/suspend completion and service-recorded environment cleanup are observed; they do not certify physical deletion or native authority retirement. Failure/recovery/unknown holds are retained. No Legacy switch or unchanged paid retry. The two source repairs above require actual treatment. - [Current immutable Core preview](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38570365725) and matching DB/shared artifacts pass. One owned, pinned Test target serves exact `1c03`; identical migration history correctly skips the migrator. Ordinary Auto Codex Connect succeeds and hires native; saved native selection and QA bounds survive reload. The initial child preparation attempt fails before provider work, with actual stdout identifying `renewal_deadline`; its trigger remains unknown and the failure is retained. Normal Board **Try again** and **Resume** recover the child to Done, producing a browser-verified 44-byte file, SHA-256 `0a8458b1efcc2d7a0d815689458c4caab039a46c7c7a3e5805de6bc8b1a96ecc`. The actual parent callback reports the completed child document/file. The existing validator requires a parent-owned attachment, so recovery enters normal Review; after byte checking, normal **Approve completion** reaches parent Done. No forced status or duplicate parent file is used. The validator is unchanged from integrated and current master. Autonomous initial callback-to-Done is not proven. The same-child follow-up completes document revision 2 and publishes a second independently downloaded 44-byte file, SHA-256 `22022257300fae762784632d08d3bbe0bab61e2ce81f91864a14dcd7aa464591`; only the revision digit changes. The unchanged existing native-continuity and attachment oracles pass. All ten recorded runs are terminal: nine native successes and the retained pre-provider setup failure. The QA agent is paused with zero active runs. The pre-existing parent evidence scope mismatch is a separate follow-up, with ordinary completion review exercised rather than a forced status or relaxed validation. This unsigned Core preview remains distinct from post-merge private Cloud composition. ## Risks - Saved agents are not migrated. Explicit runner changes use normal configuration/session rules; historical runs retain their recorded execution. - Native readiness depends on verified assets and server-owned target qualification. A Legacy probe, HTTP200 or successful account save cannot prove native readiness. - Recovery exceptions remain restricted to validated completed-onboarding reports; process-loss, ownership and terminal-state safeguards remain active. Unexecuted live journeys stay open. - Linux ARM paid tasks, Windows, Alpine and 32-bit ARM remain deferred. Cold Cargo cache misses are recorded; no warm-cache speedup is claimed. - Historical invoices/physical cleanup remain unconfirmed and held. After merge, exact published npm canary, signed standard image/migrator, private composition and serving/live acceptance still require qualification. Production deployment/default promotion is not authorized. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tools, code execution and parallel agents. Exact serving snapshot and context-window size are not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked public issues or PRs above - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket id - [x] I have run the stated focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation - [x] I have considered and documented risks - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green on the current candidate - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open findings on the current candidate - [x] I will address all reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix skill source removal with a keep-or-delete choice (#16150)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - GitHub sources import skills and keep their updates together.
> - Disconnect only disabled a source and kept its read-only imports.
> - A disabled source could not be removed or imported again.
> - Removing a source needs an explicit decision about its imported
skills.
> - This pull request removes the source after the user keeps editable
copies or deletes the imports.
> - Existing disabled sources use the same removal flow.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #15731, #14713.
**What happened?**
Disconnect left the repository on Sources. Its Disconnect action was
then disabled. The saved repository still blocked a new import.
**Expected behavior**
Remove the repository from Sources. Require a choice to keep editable
copies or delete its imports. Allow removal of sources that are already
disconnected.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Import a repository in Skills → Sources.
2. Choose Disconnect source.
3. Observe the disconnected row and disabled removal action.
4. Try to import the repository again.

feat(connections): configure custom model providers across agent harnesses (#14970)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents use a harness, a model, and a credential to run tasks. > - Connections already store credentials and control who can use them. > - Custom providers also need an endpoint and a supported API format. > - A per-agent endpoint would duplicate credentials and access rules. > - This pull request stores routing on the connection and projects it into the harness. > - Isolated credentials and protocol checks keep the selected connection authoritative. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #37, #13083, #14104, #14565, #12692. #14016 is a reference only. This PR has its own schema, vault persistence, routing validation, runtime projection, and tests. None of the five commits in #14016 is an ancestor of this branch. We do not depend on or plan to merge it. #14967 addresses task-pinned account pools. #14422 addresses another provider integration. This is the first of two linked PRs. Merge this connection change before #15341, which refines agent setup and adds the qualification harness. The split keeps each review below 100 changed files. Provider catalog entries have usable setup forms in this PR. Local browser subscription sign-in is included. ## What Changed - Store non-secret routing metadata on AI connections. Vault provider API keys, including Bedrock bearer API keys. Reject general AWS access keys. - Enforce company, owner, human audience, agent access, connection status, and protocol checks before resolving credentials. Keep reconnect destinations immutable and retain connection identity during key rotation. - Project OpenRouter and compatible custom endpoints into Codex, Claude, OpenCode, and local Hermes. Carry these settings through both legacy and native runner transports. Clear conflicting host credentials and redact keys from diagnostics. - Preserve older OpenRouter accounts and native personal defaults. Add Google API-key accounts and migration `0306` for the two provider-default constraints. - Run local Claude and Codex subscription sign-in behind the existing browser sign-in card. Use private attempt homes and owner-bound completion instead of a copied terminal command. - Seed isolated Gemini authentication and preserve OpenCode workspace permissions. Keep the selected connection authoritative. The independent Gemini and Grok workflow fixes are in #15341. - Keep native OpenCode custom gateway keys in a runner-owned selected-model proxy; the harness config contains only a session-scoped capability. Honor runtime outgoing proxy and certificate settings. Preserve streamed responses and revoke the proxy on close or startup failure. - Allow ordinary members to connect native personal accounts before an agent exists. - Repair routed accounts from task cards using the saved provider destination, protocol, model aliases, and connection identity. - Add provider catalog definitions, model discovery, pinned logos, and complete native and routed setup forms. Allow a personal routed connection before a new agent exists. Keep endpoint authentication keys out of Hermes terminal children. - Recover cancelled or restarted browser sign-in with a clear restart action. Support no-auth endpoints without a vault credential. Add isolation and recovery regressions and runtime documentation. ## Verification - Updated with `origin/master` at `22a3ea341`. Migration `0306` follows the new master migration and passes migration and snapshot checks. - The integrated connection regressions passed 152 tests and 50 native OpenCode driver tests, including key-free child-shell configuration reads, authenticated/no-auth forwarding, streaming, model/path restrictions, cancellation, outgoing proxy routing, and NO_PROXY bypass. Provider setup has 14 passing tests. The pinned real OpenCode 1.18.34 executable also completed a turn through the proxy against a local synthetic provider; the reusable key was absent from its config. A second real-executable smoke passed with an HTTPS CONNECT proxy and runtime-specific synthetic certificate trust. Certificate-file and certificate-directory regressions pass. - Task-card repair passed 48 tests, including OpenRouter, Bedrock, and custom gateway reconnect cases. UI typecheck and token gates passed. - The prior core regression set passed 133 tests across new-agent setup, provider forms, browser sign-in, routing projection, and connection authorization. Token gates and UI typecheck passed. - Full workspace typecheck and production build passed again after the latest integration and credential-proxy fix. The merged deterministic runner E2E suite passed 1,400 Vitest tests and 128 Node tests. - Full workspace typecheck passed on the prior linked combined implementation. Production build, Storybook build, 1,316 browser-harness Vitest tests, and 128 Node tests passed. Head `9d964c8d9` includes the latest master integration and regenerated migration. This exact head passed 54 remote checks with four expected skips and Greptile 5/5; no review threads remain open. An unchanged server fixture had a random six-character issue-prefix collision on its first attempt. All 245 tests passed locally and the single CI retry passed. - A provider-free terminal check used the cited supported Hermes source and dummy keys. Gateway and OpenRouter terminal children could not read the selected key. - The broad local Vitest attempt passed 15,442 tests but was not green. It had an embedded-Postgres startup failure, an HTTP logger timeout, an origin socket error, and a browser cancellation wait timeout. The cancellation wait was corrected. The relevant connection tests and the full origin test file passed separately. Latest-head CI must pass before merge. - Prior credential-backed acceptance exercised task creation, tool use, artifact delivery, completion, and context-dependent follow-up. Claude legacy and native runners passed Bedrock with `us-east-1` and `us.anthropic.claude-sonnet-4-6`. - Historical local qualification retained 43 passing API/gateway cells out of 46. Those attempts span earlier builds. They do not qualify this exact commit or staging. All subscription combinations and staging remain unqualified. - Verify native subscription and API-key setup. Connect a regular provider catalog row. Verify an incompatible harness and a changed reconnect URL are rejected. Use #15341 for the complete browser campaign. ## Risks - Migration `0306` changes two check constraints. It preserves rows and is safe to reapply. It takes normal constraint-change locks. - Credential projection touches several harnesses. CLI upgrades can change provider configuration and session behavior. - The native OpenCode proxy adds a loopback hop, pins requests to the selected model, limits request bodies to 16 MiB, rejects redirects, and expires at session close. It prevents reusable keys in the child configuration; it is not an OS isolation boundary against a process debugger running as the same user. - Custom endpoints must be reachable from the agent environment. Saving a connection does not prove connectivity. Bedrock keys require rotation before expiry. - Gemini CLI 0.58.0 has an upstream ACP new-file error conversion defect. Provider overloads and an unresolved follow-up timeout also affect live Gemini qualification. We have not patched the installed CLI or marked those cases as passing. - OpenClaw Gateway, Hermes Gateway, Claude Managed, AWS AgentCore, Process, HTTP, and legacy ACPX local are excluded. Vertex, ambient AWS identity, arbitrary auth headers, and custom routing for other harnesses are excluded. - These PRs do not establish production or staging qualification for every provider and login method. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window size were not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries. > - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use case. > - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation. > - This pull request adds connection grants, identity rules, and their database contract. > - The benefit is durable control over which identity an agent may use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add company and user connection grants. - Add delegated identity and membership rules. - Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts. - Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in the same layer that mounts it. - Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` (5 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Incorrect grant selection could expose the wrong credential scope. - The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential use. - Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime model ID and context window were not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked a public issue or pull request with `Refs #` - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): chat-style tasks polish — rich-text composer, attachment chips, live-turn interstitials, mobile layout (#10707)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators talk to their agents on the issue detail page. An experimental "Chat-Style Tasks" view (#10606) makes that page read as a conversation instead of a ticket form. > - The first release of that view shipped with a plain-text composer, no visible narration while an agent works, and a desktop-only layout. > - Users write formatted replies, paste screenshots, and follow long agent runs from their phones. The experimental view should support all of that before it can graduate. > - This pull request is the next iteration of the same experiment: a rich-text composer with attachments, live-turn narration on the status line, cleaner settled-turn history, and a mobile layout. > - The benefit is a chat view that feels alive while the agent works and stays readable after it finishes, on desktop and mobile, still fully behind the existing opt-in flag. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #49 (chat with agents is a much-wanted feature). Refs #10606 (the merged first release of the experimental chat-style task view; this PR iterates on it). Related PRs found in the dedup search: - #8228 — open PR that polishes the classic issue chat composer. It targets the flag-off legacy path; this PR only changes the flag-on experimental view. - #10466 — merged blockquote-recovery fix in the shared MarkdownEditor. This PR now reuses that editor inside the chat composer. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The experimental "Chat-Style Tasks" view on the issue detail page (Settings → Experimental, `enableTaskChatRedesign`, default off). **Subsystem affected** UI (issue detail page, chat-style task view). **Current behavior** With the experiment enabled, the composer is a plain textarea with no formatting, no attachment preview, and no mention support. While an agent runs, the status line shows only a static label, and the agent's narration text is hidden. Finished runs render one settled row per turn, so a run with many short turns produces a long list of near-duplicate "Worked" rows, and turns without a comment append at the bottom out of order. On mobile, the desktop bounded-height thread makes the page scroll poorly. **Proposed behavior** The composer uses the shared MarkdownEditor: markdown formatting, mentions, image paste with thumbnail previews, and non-image attachment chips. Sending posts on Cmd/Ctrl+Enter. While an agent runs, the status line rotates playful status words and surfaces the agent's own narration as short interstitial updates: each update holds for a minimum dwell, is replaced only when superseded, and slides through a one-line viewport with tokenized motion. Back-to-back settled turns coalesce into one "Worked" row with summed durations and re-derived tool counts, and comment-less settled turns insert chronologically at their run's start time. On mobile, the thread renders in the document flow with window auto-follow and a sticky safe-area composer; the desktop layout is unchanged. **Reason and benefit** The chat view is only convincing if it feels like a conversation with a working agent. Rich text and screenshots are table stakes for chat input. Live narration gives moment-to-moment feedback without opening transcripts. Coalesced history keeps long-running tasks readable. Mobile support lets operators follow runs away from their desks. **Breaking changes** None. Every change is gated behind the existing `enableTaskChatRedesign` flag, which is off by default. The flag-off page is unchanged. ## What Changed - `TaskChatComposer` swaps its textarea for the shared `MarkdownEditor`: markdown formatting, mentions, image paste with object-URL thumbnail previews (revoked on clear and unmount), and posting on Cmd/Ctrl+Enter. - Non-image attachments render as chips on a new shared `ui/attachment.tsx` primitive (adds the `@base-ui/react` dependency it builds on). - New `status-whimsy.ts`: deterministic rotation of playful status words on the live status line. - Live interstitial narration: the transcript adapter tags agent self-talk, and the live status line shows it as ephemeral one-line updates with a ~4s minimum dwell, hold-until-superseded replacement, and a slide transition driven by new `--motion-line-scroll` tokens (cataloged in `motion-tokens.ts`, which a test keeps 1:1 with `index.css`). Hover affordance applies only to the status line, with no leading icon. - Settled-turn history: `coalesceSettledTurns` merges back-to-back settled agent turns into one "Worked" row (summed per-run durations, tool counts re-derived from the merged turn); `assembleThreadItems` inserts comment-less settled turns chronologically at run start instead of appending them at the bottom; settled turns render tool rows only (the separate thinking block component is removed). - The "Worked" summary attaches to the reply timestamp row, and thread timestamps are always visible. - Mobile layout: the thread renders with `scroll={false}` in the page scroll, a new `useWindowAutoFollow` hook keeps the window pinned to new content, the composer is sticky with safe-area padding, and the editor uses 16px text so iOS does not zoom on focus. The desktop bounded chain is untouched. - New `TaskChatDescriptionBubble` renders the issue description as the first chat bubble, and `McpIcon` gives MCP tools a distinct icon. - `IssueDetail.test.tsx` stubs `TaskChatThread`: the composer's `@mdxeditor` dependency cannot load under jsdom's CSSOM, and the suite exercises the flag-off path. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 CLEAN. - `node scripts/check-task-chat-motion.mjs` — OK (30 files scanned, seams present). - `cd ui && npx tsc -b` — clean. - `cd ui && pnpm vitest run` — 3,482 of 3,483 tests pass locally. The one failure is the `IssueProperties.test.tsx` monitor-row time-formatting test, which is timezone-sensitive: it fails identically on unmodified `origin/master` in a non-UTC timezone and passes with `TZ=UTC`. It is not related to this change. - Manual: enable "Chat-Style Tasks" in Settings → Experimental and open an issue with an assigned agent. Comment to start a run: the status line rotates status words and shows the agent's narration as short held updates. After the run, consecutive turns fold into one "Worked" row under the reply timestamp. Paste an image into the composer to see a thumbnail chip; attach a non-image file to see a file chip; send with Cmd+Enter. Open the same issue in a narrow viewport to see the document-flow layout with the sticky composer. - Visual snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated: per `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`, "Per-change snapshot verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". ## Risks - The composer now loads the shared MarkdownEditor inside the chat view. The editor is already used across the app (issue descriptions, comments), so its behavior is well exercised; composer-specific handling (paste, attachments, submit keys) is covered by new tests. - The transcript adapter changes how live narration and settled turns are derived from run logs. Malformed or legacy logs degrade to generic rows rather than crashing, and the adapter suites cover the merge and ordering rules. - Object URLs for paste previews are revoked on send-clear and unmount to avoid leaks; jsdom environments without `URL.createObjectURL` are guarded. - All changes are behind the default-off `enableTaskChatRedesign` flag. Overall risk with the flag off is low. ## Model Used - Claude (Anthropic), model id `claude-fable-5` (Claude Fable 5), extended thinking enabled, agentic tool use (file editing, shell, test execution) via Claude Code / Claude Agent SDK. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(mcp) [split 6/8]: add Tools and Profiles UI foundation (#9561)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 6/8 and focuses on UI API, shared components, and Tools/Profile surfaces > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: Operators need typed clients and administration surfaces that compile independently before navigation exposes them. - Proposed solution: Adds UI APIs, hooks, libraries, shared components, Tools/Profiles pages, and the plugin settings consumer required by the new company-scoped API. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/05-runtime-integration`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: UXDesigner sanity pass on Tools/Profile surfaces; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds UI APIs, hooks, libraries, shared components, Tools/Profiles pages, and the plugin settings consumer required by the new company-scoped API. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates clean - Focused UI Vitest run with `NODE_ENV=test` — 28 files, 183 tests passed ## Risks - Large dead-code UI additions can drift from activation routes; PR 7 supplies the registration layer and top-level parity catches omissions. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5.4`; runtime-managed context window; medium reasoning with repository, shell, Git, GitHub CLI, and code-execution tools enabled. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] Internal references are omitted except the execution-plan link explicitly required for this coordinated split stack - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge ## Stack Coordination - Internal execution plan: [PAP-13874](/PAP/issues/PAP-13874#document-plan) - Parity reference: #9534 - Stack: #9556 → #9557 → #9558 → #9559 → #9560 → #9561 → #9562 → #9563 - Merge bottom-up only after full-stack review and an empty parity diff at #9563. ## UI Evidence QA captured these from the live Garden MCP split stack at 1440px and verified clean rendering: --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Skill Studio: three-pane skill IDE with sandboxed test runs (#9241)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Skills Manager gives operators a reusable skill layer, but iteration still required manual edits, ad hoc prompts, and indirect run inspection. > - Skill authors need a focused workflow for editing skill files, saving representative test inputs, and running those inputs through an agent without exposing harness tasks as normal company work. > - The backend therefore needs durable test inputs, reusable run templates, hidden harness issues, scoped run execution, retention metadata, and read-containment rules around hidden work. > - The frontend needs a three-pane Studio that keeps skill files, saved inputs/templates, and run output/history visible together while preserving the existing design system and token rules. > - This pull request ships that Skill Studio surface end to end: database migrations, shared contracts, server APIs/services, hidden harness execution behavior, UI routes/components, and focused tests. > - The benefit is faster and safer skill iteration, with inspectable outputs and fewer ways for internal harness work to leak into normal task lists, costs, or adjacent read APIs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. Feature request summary: - Problem: Skill authors need to edit and test company skills in one place instead of switching between the skill detail page, task creation, run output, and manual prompt history. - Proposed solution: Add a Skill Studio workbench with saved inputs, reusable templates, hidden sandboxed test runs, live run status, output inspection, run history, rerun/delete controls, and frontmatter-aware editing. - Expected users: Paperclip operators and agent-company maintainers who create, fork, import, and tune skills. - Related public PRs: Supersedes #9205, which was replaced so the public PR branch name follows contributor policy. - Duplicate search: searched public GitHub issues and PRs for "Skill Studio"; no other active public issue or PR directly covers this feature. ## What Changed - Added database migrations for Skill Studio test inputs, test runs, test run retention, and reusable run templates. - Added shared Skill Studio types, validators, route helpers, frontmatter utilities, and status handling. - Added server services and routes for saved inputs, test runs, templates, reruns, terminal-run deletion, hidden harness issue execution, and run-detail hydration. - Strengthened hidden-issue read containment across issue-adjacent routes and cost rollups used by skill test harness work. - Added the Skill Studio UI with skill file editing, frontmatter editing, saved inputs, templates, run creation/cancel/rerun/delete flows, output rendering, history, route support, and responsive pane behavior. - Added focused backend, shared, and UI tests for the new APIs, routing logic, editor/run behavior, hidden-issue containment, and migration safety. - Rebased onto current `master`, removed the generated lockfile diff from the PR, and verified no workflow files are changed. ## Verification - [x] `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - [x] `pnpm check:token-gates` - [x] `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/company-skills-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-skills-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-skill-test-runs-service.test.ts ui/src/lib/skill-studio.test.ts ui/src/pages/SkillStudio.test.tsx` — 5 files, 132 tests passed - [x] Greptile review on the latest PR head - [x] GitHub PR checks on the latest PR head ## Risks - Medium risk because this is a broad feature touching database schema, server orchestration, issue visibility, and a large UI surface. - Hidden harness issue containment is security-sensitive; this PR includes regression coverage for adjacent read paths and cost rollups. - The new migrations are additive and use idempotent guards where applicable, but deployed databases that previously tested draft migration numbers should still be checked carefully. - The UI depends on a new resizable panels package in `ui/package.json`; the lockfile is intentionally left to repository automation. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent with shell, git, and GitHub CLI tool use. Earlier feature commits include assistance from other Paperclip coding agents; this PR preparation, rebase, cleanup commit, and PR body were completed by OpenAI Codex in a Paperclip worktree. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): design-system component convergence — Card/Badge adoption, multiplicative radius ladder, unified list surfaces (#9240)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is governed by a design system (`DESIGN.md` + the token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, merged in #9134) whose first principle is "one way to say each thing" — one Card, one Badge, one nav row > - After the token extraction landed, ~35 files still hand-rolled card containers, ~45 files hand-rolled pill spans, the sidebar agents section duplicated the nav-row chrome, and the inbox and tasks lists rendered the same task rows two subtly different ways > - Each divergence is a place where a future design change (radius, hover language, status vocabulary) silently misses surfaces, defeating the "edit tokens + run checks" model the design system exists for > - This pull request converges those surfaces onto the shared primitives, codifies the radius scale as the modern multiplicative shadcn ladder, and unifies the row/hover/tree-guide language across the inbox and tasks lists — every visible delta was human-reviewed screen-by-screen against a live instance across nine feedback rounds > - The benefit is that the app's look is now steerable from single knobs (one `--radius` anchor, one Card, one Badge, one row component), and the visual regression suite covers the result (514 snapshots including a new AgentDetail page story) ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this work; describing per the feature template: - **Problem**: after the design-token foundation (#9134), component-level drift remained — hand-rolled cards/pills, duplicated sidebar row chrome, and two different renderings of task rows (inbox vs tasks list) meant design changes had to be applied per-surface and frequently missed spots (e.g. status glyphs rendered 16px in the inbox but 20px in the tasks list because a slot override silently beat the component default). - **Proposed behavior**: all card-shaped containers render via `Card`, all label pills via `Badge`, sidebar rows via `SidebarNavItem`, and both task-list surfaces via one `IssueRow` configuration; the radius scale is a single multiplicative ladder anchored at `--radius: 0.5rem`. - **Alternatives considered**: converting interactive `<button>`/`<Link>` cards to `Card` divs (rejected — breaks semantics; documented inline with `design-allow` comments instead); keeping the legacy additive radius ladder (rejected in favor of the standard shadcn multiplicative mapping). ## What Changed - `Card` adoption across ~35 files (settings pages, auth/board flows, dashboards, list containers, KPI tiles); non-adoptable sites (interactive cards, `<li>` rows, class-string props, chart tooltip) carry documented `design-allow(card-pattern)` comments - `Card` gains an `interactive` prop — one quiet hover affordance for clickable cards (cursor, border darken, shadow lift, focus ring), applied to skills tiles, artifact cards, and the company selector; cards carry no resting shadow - `Badge` adoption for 113 hand-rolled pill spans across ~45 files; `PropertyChip` wraps `Badge` internally; `StatusBadge`, external-object chips, and match chips stay bespoke by documented decision (WCAG-tuned status mechanics) - Radius ladder becomes the multiplicative shadcn mapping (`sm/md/lg/xl/2xl/3xl/4xl = 0.6/0.8/1.0/1.4/1.8/2.2/2.6 × --radius`, anchor `0.5rem`); every card surface unifies on `rounded-lg`; the orphaned 8px literal token is deleted - Sidebar: agent rows render via `SidebarNavItem` (new additive props: `iconNode`, `active`, `trailing`, `liveAccessory`); live dots use `--status-agent-running`; one row rhythm and inset rounded pill highlight; right-aligned trailing badges; every labeled section is collapsible - Inbox + tasks lists unified: md status glyphs, `accent/50` rounded row hovers, vertical tree guides under parent rows (opaque underlay so dark-mode translucent borders don't stack), no horizontal dividers under expanded parents; the swipe-to-archive reveal layer shows only mid-swipe; board toggle uses the `SquareKanban` glyph - Kanban: every column carries a status-hued tint; lanes default expanded (including empty); compact mode collapses empty lanes to labeled rails (fixes a clipped, label-less empty-column state) - Storybook: new AgentDetail page story (realistic fixtures, light+dark) joins the visual suite; suite captures with `reducedMotion: 'reduce'` and the ux-lab reasoning ticker honors `prefers-reduced-motion`; a stale lexical alias in `storybook/main.ts` is fixed (build was broken since the lexical 0.46 bump) - Keyboard navigation, from live review of the unified lists: inbox navigation keys work on every tab (archive keys stay scoped to the archivable tab); keyboard-driven scrolling no longer hands the selection to whatever row lands under the stationary cursor (hover selects only after real pointer movement); the tasks list view gains the same j/k / arrows / Enter selection model as the inbox; and the `g` then `i` go-to-inbox chord works app-wide instead of only on the issue detail page - Token gates restored to 3/3 CLEAN (tokenized a post-#9134 regression in the recovery card); decisions recorded in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` and `doc/design/COMPONENT-INVENTORY.md` (investigation verdicts: FileTree vs WorkspaceFileBrowser and the four entity pickers stay separate — evidence included) ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` → 3/3 CLEAN - `pnpm typecheck` → green (all packages) - `cd ui && npx vitest run` → 2106/2106 (assertions updated in lockstep where they documented superseded decisions; new tests for the global go-to-inbox chord) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` → exit 0 - `pnpm build-storybook` → succeeds (also fixes the lexical-alias break on master) - Visual regression: 514-snapshot Playwright suite green against the updated baseline (zero diffs from the keyboard-navigation round — those changes are purely behavioral). Note: baselines live outside git per the suite design and the baseline-manifest archive is not yet published, so CI cannot run this suite — it was run locally throughout; every visible delta was reviewed screen-by-screen in a live instance across nine review rounds. Review evidence (before/after triplets) intentionally kept out of the repo for size; available on request. - Manual: exercised dashboard, tasks (list + board), inbox, agents, skills, costs, settings, and artifact surfaces in light and dark themes ## Risks - Wide but shallow visual surface: most changes are class-string substitutions with behavior preserved (props, handlers, roles, test ids). The riskiest areas — dnd-kit card refs (React 19 ref-as-prop), inbox swipe-to-archive, and sidebar overlays — are covered by existing unit tests (all green) and were manually exercised. - Intentional visual deltas (rounded cards, tinted kanban columns, md status glyphs, unified hovers) are design decisions recorded in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`; each maps to a re-baselined snapshot set locally. - The visual suite cannot yet run in CI (unpublished baseline archive — pre-existing condition from #9134); until that lands, snapshot coverage is local-only. ## Model Used - Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic) via Claude Code — agentic coding with tool use (file editing, test execution, Playwright screenshot verification); extended thinking enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green (will confirm once CI runs) - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups (pending first review) - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets, agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind > - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at ~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no visual regression coverage > - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration > - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs > - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface: retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed visually without committing hundreds of PNGs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens", "visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of the same problem class this PR addresses systematically). **Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage; consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file edits. **Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate + externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle on top of that foundation. ## What Changed - **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved ~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`. - **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255 stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`, plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes. - **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed. `tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs` handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload` flows. - **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`, downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate baseline objects. - **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**` and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate opt-outs. - **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` + Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps. - **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills, RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical `--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces that used dark-tuned text classes. - **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form, second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified. - **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline review/update workflows. - Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames (`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`). ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system run - `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green during the design-system run - `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` — pass after external-baseline rework - `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext --moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after external-baseline rework - `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline rework - `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` — `0` - `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json` ## Risks - **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot churn has been removed from the branch. - **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata. A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then update `baseline-manifest.json`. - **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count mismatch. - **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual` label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable Playwright report/test-result artifacts. - **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository, terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run targeted local verification and documented the intentional baseline-publication failure above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green *(pending new CI run after this rework)* - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups *(pending review)* - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and OpenAI Codex --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(secrets): add user-specific runtime secrets (#8825)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent runs often need provider credentials, API tokens, and other environment-bound secrets. > - Company-level secrets work for shared credentials, but they do not model values that should differ by human operator. > - Without a user-scoped model, a run can dispatch without knowing whether the responsible human has supplied the needed value. > - Paperclip also needs run attribution to make those user-scoped runtime checks deterministic and auditable. > - This pull request adds user-specific secret definitions, per-user values, environment bindings, responsible-user attribution, and runtime resolution gates. > - The benefit is that teams can define the secret once, let each user provide their own value, and block runs before dispatch when required user secrets or active definitions are unavailable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #224 Refs #6057 This PR implements user-specific secret support as a core secret-management capability rather than a one-off adapter setting. It is related to existing public work on company secrets UI and runtime secret refs, but is distinct because the value is owned by the responsible user and resolved at run dispatch time. Related PR search before opening found existing secrets work such as #1550, #8256, #8614, #8634, and #8647; none of those add the full user-secret definition/value/runtime gate covered here. ## What Changed - Added user-secret definitions and per-user "My secrets" values, keeping stored values out of access metadata. - Added `user_secret_ref` environment bindings and UI affordances to pick them alongside existing secret refs. - Added responsible-user runtime resolution so user-secret refs resolve against the human responsible for the run. - Added pre-dispatch missing-secret gates so runs fail before adapter dispatch when required user values are absent or definitions are inactive. - Added low-trust allowlist hardening for user-secret runtime access. - Added issue, routine, run, and agent API key responsible-user attribution and fail-closed dispatch behavior when attribution cannot be resolved. - Added denial-copy mapping so responsible-user authorization failures surface as actionable run outcomes instead of opaque setup failures. - Added OpenAPI documentation for the user-secret routes. - Rebases cleanly on current `master`; migrations were renumbered incrementally as `0128_user_specific_secrets`, `0129_agent_api_key_responsible_user`, and `0130_run_responsible_user_invariant` after upstream `0126`/`0127` migrations. - Removed previously committed local design screenshots so the PR contains code/docs/tests only. ## Verification - PASS: PR head `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6` is based on `paperclipai/paperclip:master`. - PASS: `git diff --check` - PASS: `git diff --name-only public/master...HEAD | rg '^(pnpm-lock\\.yaml|\\.github/workflows/|screenshots/)' || true` produced no files. - PASS: migration journal audit confirmed unique indexes through `130` with tail entries `0126_issue_comment_derived_attribution`, `0127_environment_custom_images_instance_scoped`, `0128_user_specific_secrets`, `0129_agent_api_key_responsible_user`, and `0130_run_responsible_user_invariant`. - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-responsible-user-invariant.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-workspace-finalize-branch.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-monitor-scheduler.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-comment-wake-batching.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-accepted-plan-workspace-refresh.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-plugin-environment.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/low-trust-red-team-routes.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/secrets-service.test.ts` (55 tests) - PASS: `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/secrets-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/secrets-service.test.ts` (89 tests after final Greptile cleanup fixes) - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-issue-liveness-escalation.test.ts` (17 tests after the final rebase CI fix) - PASS: focused server Vitest batches covering heartbeat recovery, project env, plugin env, routines, low-trust, pipelines, monitors, watchdog, and stale queue paths. - PASS: GitHub checks are green on `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6`, including Typecheck + Release Registry, Build, General tests, serialized server suites, e2e, Canary Dry Run, verify, security checks, and Greptile Review. - PASS: Greptile Review completed successfully on `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6` with Confidence Score 5/5, and GraphQL review-thread audit returned zero unresolved non-outdated threads. ## Risks - Runtime behavior now depends on a run having a correct responsible user; missing or incorrect responsibility assignment can block runs before adapter dispatch. - `user_secret_ref` bindings intentionally expose metadata without values, but UI/API callers may need to handle the new binding kind explicitly. - External secret providers and IAM policies are not automatically provisioned by this PR; operators still need to configure provider-side access for non-local vaults. - The PR is broad across db/shared/server/UI/runtime paths, so release validation should include both API and UI secret workflows before merge. - The migration renumbering is intentionally incremental after upstream migrations; the branch migrations use guarded column/table/index/constraint creation so users who tested the older draft numbering should not hit duplicate DDL for the existing objects. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. [codex] Clean up issue properties pane (#8941)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The issue details sidebar is a high-traffic operator surface for scanning task state, ownership, policy, relationships, and external references. > - The previous properties pane mixed too much behavior in one large component and several rows could overflow or become hard to scan with long labels and relation lists. > - The UI needed a narrower, more reusable structure so compact property rows, relation pills, external URL rows, and picker triggers behave consistently. > - This pull request splits the properties pane into focused helper modules and tightens the pane's layout, truncation, popover, and overflow behavior. > - The benefit is a denser, more stable properties pane that stays usable when issues have long titles, many relationships, external URLs, or execution policy IDs. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists for this work. I searched GitHub issues and PRs for `IssueProperties properties pane`; there was no duplicate issue and the matching PRs were unrelated test stabilization or other work. ### Problem or motivation The board issue details properties pane is a frequent operator workflow surface, but it was implemented as one large component and several rows could become hard to scan with long labels, many relationships, external URLs, or execution policy IDs. ### Proposed solution Split the properties pane into focused modules, tighten compact row layout and truncation behavior, add bounded previews with explicit expansion controls for long relation and URL lists, and make execution policy ID generation work on insecure origins as well as normal browser origins. ### Alternatives considered A smaller patch inside the existing monolithic component would fix individual overflow symptoms, but it would keep related primitives, picker behavior, relation controls, and external URL rendering tangled in one file. The split keeps the behavior easier to test and review without changing public APIs. ### Roadmap alignment This is an incremental UI quality improvement to the existing board task details surface. I checked `ROADMAP.md` and did not find overlapping planned core feature work. ## What Changed - Split the issue properties pane into focused modules for helpers, primitives, relation controls, property pickers, and external object rows. - Cleaned up row spacing, truncation, picker trigger alignment, scroll behavior, status color coverage, and long-value titles. - Added bounded previews and expand/collapse controls for blocking, sub-task, related-task, and external URL lists. - Fixed execution policy ID generation so insecure origins fall back to a stable base URL instead of throwing. - Updated Storybook issue-management stories and expanded unit coverage for the new properties pane behavior. ## Verification - `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — 38 tests passed ## Risks Low to moderate risk. The changes are UI-only, but they touch a frequently used task details surface. The main risk is a subtle layout regression in an untested viewport or issue shape; the branch adds targeted coverage for long relation and external URL lists. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 Codex coding agent with repository tool use, shell execution, GitHub CLI access, and local test execution. Context window size was not exposed in this runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): NUX rework behind enableConferenceRoomChat experimental flag — capsule onboarding, conference-room chat, unified composer (#8000)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The first-run experience (onboarding wizard) and the chat surfaces
(conference-room/board chat, task threads, composers) are the product's
front door — they decide whether a new operator understands "hire
agents, give them work, review results" in the first five minutes
> - Today those surfaces feel ticket-y and form-like: the wizard is a
static multi-step form that ends in an anticlimactic "Launch" screen,
the task composer and board chat behave differently from each other, and
agent-feed issue quicklooks misbehave (multiple flyouts open at once,
cards jump on hover)
> - We wanted to iterate toward a conversational, team-centric NUX — but
without risking the workflows of everyone already running Paperclip
> - This PR reworks the NUX behind a new default-OFF
`enableConferenceRoomChat` experimental flag: a capsule-motif onboarding
wizard that builds your team as you answer, a conference-room chat
surface, one shared ChatComposer across surfaces, brand-accurate status
chips, and feed-quicklook fixes — with the pre-existing UI
fork-and-frozen as `*Classic` components that flag-OFF users keep
> - The benefit is a complete, testable modern NUX that anyone can opt
into from Settings → Experimental, with zero default behavior change and
a clean path to either graduate or drop the experiment
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No pre-existing GitHub issue — feature description per
`feature_request.yml`:
- **Problem / motivation:** Paperclip's onboarding wizard and chat
surfaces grew up as separate ticket-centric forms. New users get a
form-filling experience rather than the feeling of standing up a team;
the board chat and task threads use different composers with different
affordances; the agent feed's issue quicklook can stack multiple
popovers and shifts cards on hover.
- **Proposed solution:** A coherent NUX experiment behind one
experimental flag (`enableConferenceRoomChat`, Settings → Experimental,
default OFF): capsule onboarding wizard with an evolving team capsule,
conference-room chat, unified `ChatComposer`, team-centric copy, brand
status chips, quicklook single-flight fix. Flag-OFF users get the exact
pre-experiment UI via frozen `*Classic` forks, verified by an on/off
parity test matrix.
- **Alternatives considered:** (a) incremental unflagged restyling —
rejected: the changes interlock across surfaces and would drip risk into
every release; (b) a separate app shell / route for the new NUX —
rejected: too much divergence, the flag + classic-fork pattern keeps the
diff reviewable and reversible.
- **Roadmap alignment:** `ROADMAP.md` lists **CEO Chat** ("a
lighter-weight way to talk to leadership agents... should still resolve
to real work objects"). This experiment is groundwork in that direction
(conference-room chat resolves to issues/tasks via the same composer
used in task threads) and does not change the core task-and-comments
model.
Related PRs found in the dedup search (same area, none duplicate this
work — they target the classic wizard, which this PR intentionally
leaves intact and mergeable):
- #5385 — Coach-driven onboarding: conversational entry +
agent-companies package import
- #5378 — Onboarding wizard: reusable adapter picker + probe card
- #6636 — ui(onboarding): friendly error surface + retry for the wizard
- #7005 — fix(onboarding): explicitly await first-task wake
- #2616 — fix: restore workspace directory config in onboarding wizard
## What Changed
- **Experimental flag plumbing** — `enableConferenceRoomChat` in shared
types/validators, server instance-settings service + API, Settings →
Experimental card with explicit enable/disable copy
- **Onboarding wizard** — classic wizard forked and frozen
(`OnboardingWizardClassic`); flag-ON variant is a 5-step capsule wizard
with a persistent evolving `AgentCapsule` (gradient/glow motif),
team-centric reframed copy, and a typing-dots intro (hardened with
fake-timer tests)
- **Conference-room chat** — flag-ON board-chat surface with agent
bubble name/icon headers and copy/vote/timestamp action rows
(`AgentBubbleActionRow`)
- **Unified composer** — shared `ChatComposer` adopted across surfaces;
translucent surface + scroll-mask removal; "Agent mode"/"Plan mode"
relabels; no-assignee confirmation `AlertDialog` (new
`ui/alert-dialog.tsx` primitive); `@task` reference picker +
linkification in mentions
- **Agent feed** — single-flight issue-quicklook store (one popover at a
time), flyouts open to the left, removed hover translate-y jitter
- **Status chips** — brand-accurate task status chips behind the flag
(light/dark, 1px borders per paperclip.ing/brand)
- **Tests** — flag on/off parity matrix across IssueDetail,
NewIssueDialog, Sidebar, wizard, gate components; component tests for
all new pieces
- **Merge with `master`** — one conflict in
`ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.tsx`, resolved by keeping master's
new `AssigneeChip`/`HandoffWakeRow`/`RunStatusBadge` components inside
the flag-gated metadata-row chrome (details in commit `21a5642a`);
post-merge fixes: vitest 4 mock typing in `MarkdownEditor.test.tsx`,
flag hook made safe for provider-less mounts (master's new isolated
component tests)
- **Branch hygiene** — internal design wireframes/mockups stripped
before the PR (they live in the Paperclip issue threads)
- No user-facing documentation changes required: the flag is
intentionally experimental and self-described in the Settings card; no
existing docs reference the affected surfaces
## Verification
- `pnpm run typecheck` — green across the workspace (ui, server, shared,
plugins)
- Full UI suite (`vitest run` in `ui/`, clean worktree at this HEAD):
**1593/1595 passing, 223/224 files** — the 2 remaining failures are in
`src/components/artifacts/ArtifactCard.test.tsx` and **fail identically
on pristine `origin/master`** (pre-existing upstream, unrelated to this
branch)
- Full server suite (`vitest run` in `server/`, same clean worktree):
results in PR checks; flag plumbing covered by instance-settings tests
- Targeted post-merge resolution check: `IssueChatThread`,
`IssueChatThreadSystemNotice`, `IssueDetail`, `Sidebar`,
`ConferenceRoomChatGate`, `OnboardingWizardVariant`, `NewIssueDialog`,
`InstanceExperimentalSettings`, `MarkdownEditor` — 172/172 passing
- Manual walkthrough: flag OFF (default) → onboarding wizard, task
thread, board chat, composer all render the classic UI; flag ON via
Settings → Experimental → capsule wizard, conference-room chat, unified
composer, status chips active
- Screenshots: see below
**Flag on/off screenshots** (committed on this branch under
`screenshots/PR-8000-*`):
| Surface | Flag OFF (classic, default) | Flag ON (experimental) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Settings → Experimental |
|
|
| Task thread |
|
|
| Home / nav |
|
|
| Conference Room (flag-ON only surface) | — |
|
Capsule onboarding wizard walkthrough screenshots (flag ON) are attached
to the Paperclip design/implementation threads; the wizard requires a
fresh instance so it is captured via the e2e harness
(`tests/e2e/nux-phase4-screenshots.spec.ts`).
## Risks
- **Large surface, but gated:** all new behavior sits behind
`enableConferenceRoomChat`, default OFF; flag-OFF rendering is locked by
frozen `*Classic` forks plus an on/off parity test suite
- **Classic forks are frozen at the fork point (`e3aada1d`):** master
features added to the live thread component after that point (assignee
handoff chips, run status badge, composer mention coach) render in the
flag-ON path; the flag-OFF task thread keeps the fork-point behavior
until the experiment graduates (forks deleted) or is dropped (forks
restored as canonical). Called out for reviewer attention.
- **Merge-conflict resolution in `IssueChatThread.tsx`** (commit
`21a5642a`) deserves reviewer eyes: master's new handoff/run-status
components were kept; the base toast-style no-assignee flow remains
replaced by the AlertDialog flow introduced on this branch
- Schema/server changes are additive (one optional boolean instance
setting); no migrations of existing data
## Model Used
- Claude (Anthropic) via Claude Code running in the Paperclip agent
harness (agent: ClaudeCoder)
- Branch implemented across multiple agent sessions on Claude Opus-class
models with extended thinking + tool use (file edits, shell, Playwright
screenshots); merge/PR session model ID as reported by the harness:
`claude-fable-5` (Claude Code CLI)
- All code was agent-authored and board-reviewed through Paperclip issue
threads (plans, wireframes, confirmations) before merging

feat(ui): routine detail page — variation C sub-sidebar layout (PAP-10732) (#7848)
## Summary Rebuilds the routine detail page as **variation C** — a sub-sidebar shell that splits the page into **ROUTINE** (Overview · Triggers · Variables · Secrets · Delivery) and **OPERATE** (Runs · Activity · History), per the engineering spec on PAP-10730. Replaces the previous 5-tab `?tab=…` layout in `ui/src/pages/RoutineDetail.tsx`. Implements PAP-10732. Design source of truth: PAP-10730 `spec` document; approved direction PAP-10709. ## What changed - **Routing** (`ui/src/App.tsx`): real sub-routes under `routines/:routineId/:section`. Bare `/routines/:id` redirects to the last-viewed section (`localStorage`) or `overview`; old `?tab=…` URLs redirect to the matching section for back-compat. Every section URL is bookmarkable. - **Shell** (`RoutineDetail.tsx`): slim 56px sticky header (title + managed-by-plugin chip + Run / Active toggle), page-local sub-sidebar, full-canvas section body, per-section sticky save bar. All routine state/mutations stay in the shell and flow to sections via a `RoutineDetailContext`. - **New components**: `RoutineSubSidebar` (+ mobile `<Select>` picker, roving keyboard nav), `RoutineSaveBar` (scoped dirty count, ⌘/Ctrl+S save, Esc-discard confirm, 409 conflict recovery with Reload / Overwrite), `RadioCard` primitive (Delivery), `RoutineTriggerCard` (extracted from the inline editor, with human-readable cron), `RoutineActivityRow` (expandable JSON), `lib/cron-readable`, and the per-section components. - **Reuse**: History mounts the existing `RoutineHistoryTab`; Variables mounts `RoutineVariablesEditor` with a provenance banner; Secrets reuses `EnvVarEditor` + the one-time reveal banner. No backend or schema changes. - **States**: per-section loading/empty/error/save-conflict and read-only strip scaffolding (§1.6). ## Testing - New unit tests: sub-sidebar navigation/active/dirty markers, save-bar dirty + ⌘S + conflict recovery, cron helper. - Existing routine tests still pass: `Routines.test.tsx`, `RoutineHistoryTab.test.tsx`, `RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx`. - `vitest run` (routine scope): **36 passed**. Production `vite build`: **green**. - Screenshots at 1440×900 + 390×844 attached to [PAP-10732](https://example.invalid) (rendered via a new Storybook story with fixture data). ## Out of scope (per spec) - `/routines` list-page redo (follow-up). - Non-owner secret-value visibility (Open Q6 — CEO escalation; built with the spec default). --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix new secret form textarea overflow (PAPA-348) (#6222)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Operators manage per-company secrets through the Secrets page in the web UI > - A long secret value pasted into the "New secret" textarea blew out the form's width, which pushed the Create/Cancel buttons off-screen and made the form unusable > - Root cause: the shadcn `Textarea` primitive sets `w-full` but does not constrain `min-width`, so a flex parent honors the textarea's intrinsic content width when a long unbreakable string is present > - This pull request adds `min-w-0 max-w-full` to the shared `Textarea` primitive and `min-w-0 overflow-x-hidden break-all` on the secret-value usage so a long token wraps inside the form bounds > - The benefit is the Create/Cancel buttons stay reachable regardless of pasted token length, and every other `Textarea` consumer also gets the flexbox-friendly width constraint ## What Changed - `ui/src/components/ui/textarea.tsx`: added `min-w-0 max-w-full` to the base shadcn `Textarea` so it cannot exceed its flex parent - `ui/src/pages/Secrets.tsx`: added `min-w-0 overflow-x-hidden break-all` on the new-secret value `Textarea` so long opaque tokens wrap instead of pushing the form - `ui/src/pages/Secrets.render.test.tsx`: new regression test that opens the New Secret dialog and asserts the value textarea carries the width-constraint classes ## Verification - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/pages/Secrets.render.test.tsx` — 3/3 pass - Manual: open the Secrets page, click "New secret", paste a long unbroken string (e.g. a 500-char token) into the value field. The form stays within its dialog and the Create/Cancel buttons remain in view. Before: <img width="1772" height="1432" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/cb31a290-f82a-41dc-9346-91d18cbb5911" /> After: <img width="672" height="734" alt="Screenshot 2026-05-17 at 5 39 38 PM" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a08800c2-b09b-43be-b0e8-114d9149b8f5" /> After: the value field wraps with `break-all` inside the dialog; Create/Cancel stay clickable. Covered by the new render test which asserts `min-w-0`, `overflow-x-hidden`, and `break-all` are present on `#new-secret-value`. ## Risks - Low risk. The base `Textarea` change adds `min-w-0 max-w-full`, which only affects layouts where a textarea was previously allowed to grow past its parent — those cases were already buggy. `break-all` on the secret-value textarea is the right behavior for opaque tokens; it would be wrong for prose, but this field is explicitly a secret token. ## Model Used - Provider: Anthropic Claude - Model: claude-opus-4-7 (Opus 4.7) - Mode: standard Claude Code agent, tool use enabled ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies, so agent work needs visible ownership, recovery, and operator controls. > - This local branch had accumulated several related control-plane reliability and operator-experience fixes across recovery actions, watchdog folding, model-profile defaults, mentions, markdown editing, plugin launchers, and small UI polish. > - The branch needed to be converted into a PR against the current `origin/master` without losing dirty work or including lockfile/workflow churn. > - The safest standalone shape is a single rollup PR because the recovery/server/UI files overlap heavily across the local commits and splitting would create avoidable conflicts. > - This pull request replays the local branch onto latest `origin/master`, preserves the uncommitted work as logical commits, and adds a Zod 4 validator compatibility fix found during verification. > - The benefit is that the May 17 local branch can be reviewed and merged as one coherent, conflict-free branch under the 100-file Greptile limit. ## What Changed - Rebased the local May 17 branch work onto current `origin/master` in a dedicated worktree. - Preserved and committed previously dirty changes for recovery retry handling, plugin/sidebar launcher polish, and `.herenow` ignores. - Added recovery-action behavior for returning source issues to `todo` when retrying source-scoped recovery. - Included the existing local recovery/liveness/watchdog fold, Codex cheap-profile, markdown/mention, duplicate-agent, and UI polish commits from the branch. - Normalized shared validator `z.record(...)` schemas to explicit string-key records for Zod 4 compatibility. - Confirmed the PR has no `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows/*` changes and stays below the 100-file Greptile limit. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `npm run install` in `node_modules/.pnpm/sqlite3@5.1.7/node_modules/sqlite3` to build the local native sqlite3 binding after installing with scripts disabled - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/issue.test.ts packages/shared/src/project-mentions.test.ts packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-model-profile.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-recovery-actions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-agent-mutation-ownership-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-local-folders.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueRecoveryActionCard.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAccountMenu.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownEditor.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/lib/duplicate-agent-payload.test.ts ui/src/pages/Routines.test.tsx` - First pass: 13 files passed with 201 passing tests; 3 server files failed before sqlite3 native binding was built. - After rebuilding sqlite3: `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-model-profile.test.ts`, `server/src/__tests__/issue-recovery-actions.test.ts`, and `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts` passed/loaded; embedded Postgres tests were skipped by the local host guard. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` ## Risks - Medium risk: this is a broad rollup PR across recovery semantics, server tests, shared validators, and UI surfaces. - Some embedded Postgres tests skipped locally due the host guard, so CI should provide the stronger database-backed signal. - UI changes were covered by component tests, but no browser screenshot was captured in this PR creation pass. - This branch may overlap with existing recovery/liveness PR work; merge this PR independently or restack/close overlapping branches rather than merging duplicate implementations together. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent, tool-enabled local repository and GitHub workflow, medium reasoning effort. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Polish issue board workflows (#4224)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Human operators supervise that work through issue lists, issue detail, comments, inbox groups, markdown references, and profile/activity surfaces > - The branch had many small UI fixes that improve the operator loop but do not need to ship with backend runtime migrations > - These changes belong together as board workflow polish because they affect scanning, navigation, issue context, comment state, and markdown clarity > - This pull request groups the UI-only slice so it can merge independently from runtime/backend changes > - The benefit is a clearer board experience with better issue context, steadier optimistic updates, and more predictable keyboard navigation ## What Changed - Improves issue properties, sub-issue actions, blocker chips, and issue list/detail refresh behavior. - Adds blocker context above the issue composer and stabilizes queued/interrupted comment UI state. - Improves markdown issue/GitHub link rendering and opens external markdown links in a new tab. - Adds inbox group keyboard navigation and fold/unfold support. - Polishes activity/avatar/profile/settings/workspace presentation details. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/lib/optimistic-issue-comments.test.ts` ## Risks - Low to medium risk: changes are UI-focused but cover high-traffic issue and inbox surfaces. - This branch intentionally does not include the backend runtime changes from the companion PR; where UI calls newer API filters, unsupported servers should continue to fail visibly through existing API error handling. - Visual screenshots were not captured in this heartbeat; targeted component/helper tests cover the changed behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent runtime, shell/git tool use enabled. Exact hosted model build and context window are not exposed in this Paperclip heartbeat environment. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

[codex] Polish issue and operator workflow UI (#4090)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip operators spend much of their time in issues, inboxes, selectors, and rich comment threads. > - Small interaction problems in those surfaces slow down supervision of AI-agent work. > - The branch included related operator quality-of-life fixes for issue layout, inbox actions, recent selectors, mobile inputs, and chat rendering stability. > - These changes are UI-focused and can land independently from workspace navigation and access-profile work. > - This pull request groups the operator QoL fixes into one standalone branch. > - The benefit is a more stable and efficient board workflow for issue triage and task editing. ## What Changed - Widened issue detail content and added a desktop inbox archive action. - Fixed mobile text-field zoom by keeping touch input font sizes at 16px. - Prioritized recent picker selections for assignees/projects in issue and routine flows. - Showed actionable approvals in the Mine inbox model. - Fixed issue chat renderer state crashes and hardened tests. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/lib/inbox.test.ts ui/src/lib/recent-selections.test.ts` - Split integration check: merged last after the other [PAP-1614](/PAP/issues/PAP-1614) branches with no merge conflicts. - Confirmed this branch does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Risks - Low to medium risk: mostly UI state, layout, and selection-priority behavior. - Visual layout and mobile zoom behavior may need browser/device QA beyond component tests. - No database migrations are included. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.4 tool-enabled coding model, agentic code-editing/runtime with local shell and GitHub CLI access; exact context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the Paperclip harness. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): enable scroll wheel in selectors inside dialogs
Radix Dialog wraps content in react-remove-scroll, which blocks wheel events on portaled Popover content (rendered outside the Dialog DOM tree). Add a disablePortal option to PopoverContent and use it for all InlineEntitySelector instances inside NewIssueDialog so the Popover stays in the Dialog's DOM tree and scrolling works. fix(ui): vertically center close button in command palette on mobile
The X close button in the command palette dialog used the generic dialog positioning (absolute top-4 right-4), which was visually offset from the search input on mobile. Replace with a custom close button that matches the input wrapper height (h-12) and uses flex centering for proper vertical alignment. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
