Devin FoleyandPaperclip 06484b3c41 fix: preserve conversation retries through execution cleanup (#15463)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Recovery schedules bounded retries after a provider disconnects.
> - A stopped run can still hold its environment lease while cleanup
runs.
> - Retrying before that lease is released cancels the new run before it
starts and spends another retry.
> - Restoring the task can also send the worker repair instructions from
an already resolved recovery action.
> - This pull request preserves the waiting retry and removes settled
recovery instructions from later wakes.
> - The task can continue after cleanup without an operator repairing
the same incident again.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A legacy conversation run disconnected while it was doing ordinary work.
Its environment cleanup took longer than the retry delay. Two retries
were cancelled before dispatch with `execution_reconciliation_required`.
Those cancellations exhausted the failure budget. After an operator
restored the task, the wake still told the original worker to repair the
runtime and hand the task back to itself.

**Expected behavior**

Cleanup waits preserve the pending attempt. The same retry can continue
after ownership is released, subject to all current gates. Once a
recovery action is resolved or cancelled, subsequent task wakes omit its
repair instructions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Fail a legacy conversation run while its environment lease remains in
`pending_cleanup`.
2. Schedule a bounded retry and run promotion before cleanup releases
that lease.
3. Repeat the scheduler sweep. Before this fix, retries promote and then
cancel without starting.
4. Resolve a stranded-task recovery action and build the restored task
wake with that action ID. Before this fix, the wake still includes the
settled repair instructions.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced with database regressions against `ceabc3bc880` on master.

Related: #15019 restores a skipped assignment handoff after lease
release. #15235 filters stale handoff evidence in the recovery sweep.
This change preserves an existing scheduled conversation retry and
corrects restored wake content. It does not create a new handoff wake.

## What Changed

- Keep an unstarted legacy conversation retry on the same durable row
while prior execution ownership remains active. Recheck after 30 seconds
without increasing retry accounting.
- Return a queued retry to scheduled state if it encounters that hold at
the claim gate. Retain its issue claim and publish the status change.
- Record one local lifecycle diagnostic per blocking run. Remove that
wait marker on promotion.
- Include recovery action metadata only while the referenced action is
active or escalated.
- Return an explicit `waiting` response and the saved schedule when
Retry now meets cleanup. Show the wait inline without a false success or
disabled button.
- Add database, rendered-prompt, route, and UI regressions. Document the
execution and run-log contracts.

## Verification

- Five cleanup and restored-wake regressions fail against the original
production code. The Retry now route and UI regressions also fail before
their correction.
- Related retry, dispatch, stale-queue, and recovery suites: 321 tests
pass across seven files. All ten focused cleanup/restored-wake cases
pass after rebase. The final dispatch adjustment passes all 46 adapter
tests.
- Retry now routes and affected UI suites: all 46 tests pass. The tests
cover repeated clicks, the saved schedule, unchanged accounting,
promotion after release, and no false success or error state.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, and `pnpm
check:token-gates` pass.
- Full local `pnpm test:run` was started and then stopped after the
final commit passed all GitHub CI test shards. No complete local
full-suite result is claimed; CI supplies the complete test result for
the final commit.
- Final head `6f1058a332c039e33c4f002b296d20a5554e760e`: all 55 GitHub
checks are green or intentionally skipped. Apex review is 5/5 after two
reviews, with no unresolved threads. The PR has no merge conflicts.

## Risks

The wait applies only to unstarted legacy conversation retries. Native
runs and non-conversation execution keep their existing recovery rules.
Cleanup must actually release ownership before execution can resume. The
wait does not fix a cleanup service that never finishes. Promotion and
dispatch still enforce cancellation, reassignment, pause, budget, and
reconciliation gates. No schema change is required. The Retry now
response adds a `waiting` outcome; the shared contract and all three UI
controls handle it.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with repository analysis, tool use, and
local code execution. The runtime does not expose the precise serving

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 228f0e2807 fix(ui): make pull request review waits visible (#15375)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets people supervise agent work and review its outputs.
> - A task can wait for a human to review a pull request while an agent
schedules checks.
> - The PR work product and detected external links use separate display
paths.
> - A private PR can disappear from the useful sidebar view when its
provider lookup fails.
> - The monitor countdown says when the next check runs but omits the
saved review request.
> - This change shows the saved PR and requested review in the task's
existing surfaces.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A task kept checking whether a private GitHub PR had merged. Its work
product requested board review, but the Properties sidebar used detected
external objects instead. The PR URL was stored only in metadata, which
the PR refresh path did not read. The composer showed a generic monitor
countdown with no PR link or review action.

**Expected behavior**

Show saved PR links even if provider access fails. During a GitHub
monitor wait, make outstanding review requests visible with the next
check time and a status-check action. Stop requesting review when a PR
merges or closes.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Register a PR work product with `reviewState: needs_board_review` and
its URL in `metadata.url`.
2. Schedule an external-service monitor for GitHub.
3. Open the task with external-object lookup unavailable or unable to
access the private repository.
4. Inspect Properties and the composer wait strip.

Related work: #14469 added rich artifact cards. #8759 addresses
attention on monitored task blockers. This change uses the existing work
products and monitor action; it adds no blocker or approval mechanism.

## What Changed

- Show saved PRs in Properties, including metadata-only links,
independent of external-object availability.
- Deduplicate equivalent GitHub PR URLs while preserving the saved
navigation link, and put explicit review requests first.
- Keep provider status and freshness on the combined PR row; keep
private PR links usable when lookup fails.
- Show the saved PR review request above the composer and in the
existing monitor banner during a GitHub monitor wait.
- Label the existing monitor action `Check status` and show check
failures inline.
- Suppress review prompts for merged, closed, or archived PRs even if
their review flag is stale.
- Refresh PR metadata using `metadata.url` and the existing `repository`
alias.
- Share saved work-product reads across the thread, Properties, and
Artifacts. Refresh GitHub in a separate query and enrich only matching
PR versions.
- Start a fresh saved-row request on live invalidation so late provider
responses cannot hide new artifacts or changed review requests.
- Cover stalled GitHub lookups in both panels so refresh latency cannot
hide saved work.
- Scope monitor-check mutation state to the task so failures and late
responses do not leak across navigation.
- Refresh GitHub status when the displayed run finishes, including when
saved PR rows have not changed.
- Clarify that PR review and external release handoffs need a saved
human-input interaction with an agent assigned for continuation; a flag,
monitor, or handoff comment alone does not create that card.

## Verification

- 386 tests pass across eleven affected UI and server suites on
`184c7d8746`. Regressions cover saved links, provider status, cold-cache
loading, panel reopening, monitor errors during navigation, and live
updates during provider refresh.
- Three live-update regressions and two run-completion regressions fail
before their fixes and pass afterward. These tests use the real API
client's GET coalescing and abort handling.
- Full repository typecheck and build passed on the merged parent
`1a49112dd2`. The latest UI changes pass UI typecheck and token gates;
CI also verifies the latest build. Capability contract/inventory checks
pass.
- Storybook build and browser checks passed before the query race fix.
Browser checks cover desktop and 390px mobile review waits, plus video,
mixed-file, and empty artifact galleries after background refresh.
- The earlier full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped under disk
pressure. It reported failures outside the changed suites; an isolated
skill-cache run reproduced three existing macOS permission failures. The
full local suite was not rerun for this follow-up.
- Latest-head CI passes on `184c7d8746`, including the browser shards
and canary dry run. Apex is 5/5 with no actionable findings and no
unresolved threads. All eight reported findings are addressed.

## Risks

- This uses saved PR review state. When GitHub access fails, the saved
state can remain stale until the agent updates it. The link remains
visible and the status check remains available.
- `Check status` wakes the existing monitor owner. It does not merge a
PR, accept an approval, or mark the task done.
- No schema, permissions, or scheduler behavior changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with reasoning, repository analysis, code
editing, and test execution. The exact deployment model ID and context
window were not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 2c43b39167 refactor(ui): share task composer and project/worktree controls (#15091)
Use the shared composer for new tasks, including project and worktree selection, rich mentions and slash commands, and remembered task settings.

Save project preferences after successful task updates. Show known agent models by name and use Default for unknown runtime defaults.

DottaandPaperclip e912f0df53 fix(ui): open text attachments in task tabs (#14297)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent work often ends with a Markdown or plain-text file.
> - Task attachments currently open outside the task panel.
> - Users need to inspect those files while keeping the task
conversation in view.
> - This pull request opens text attachments in task tabs and adds
rendered, raw, and download controls.
> - The same controls work in the mobile task drawer.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**
Opening a text attachment did not put its content in a task tab.
Markdown files had no in-task rendered/raw toggle.

**Expected behavior**
Open Markdown and text attachments in one reusable task tab. Show
Markdown as rendered content or raw text. Download the original file.

**Steps to reproduce**
1. Upload a Markdown file and a plain-text file to a task comment.
2. Open each attachment from the task conversation or artifact list.
3. Switch Markdown between Rendered and Raw. Download both files.
4. Repeat at a mobile viewport width.

Related work: #14193 controls artifact tab arrival. This change adds
text attachment content tabs.

## What Changed

- Route text attachment opens from conversation and artifact cards into
task tabs.
- Add a text attachment panel with accessible Rendered, Raw, and
Download controls.
- Preserve ordinary links for other file types.
- Support the selected attachment in the mobile drawer.
- Keep text-tab actions on the current rich artifact cards, including
CSV previews.
- Render attachment image references and diagram source without loading
media URLs.
- Add browser regression tests, component tests, Storybook examples, and
usage documentation.

## Verification

- Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and UI
token gates pass locally.
- All 6,960 UI tests pass. The additional media regression passes
against the real Markdown renderer and fails before the fix. CSV
coverage verifies direct downloads and text tabs after preview.
- Both desktop and mobile browser cases pass locally. They check
rendered/raw Markdown, literal plain text, reusable tabs, review
controls, and exact original download bytes. The local fixture used a
separate database port because an existing socket occupied the default
range.
- The full CI test matrix passes on
`82be5efbef26927b237a031725bb3d7fa79f637f`. The duplicate local `pnpm
test:run` was stopped after this CI result; it did not complete locally.
- Greptile is 5/5 on the final commit. All review threads are resolved,
and the security scan passes.
- All 54 final-head checks pass, including the canary dry run. The two
optional Storybook jobs are skipped.

## Risks

- Text attachment links now open in the task panel. Other content types
keep their existing link behavior.
- File display still depends on the existing authenticated attachment
route. There are no API or database changes.
- Raw text is displayed as text, including strings that look like HTML.
Rendered Markdown keeps media references inert.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution, browser testing, and
subagent tool use. The runtime does not expose an exact serving model
variant or context-window size. Recovered earlier implementation changes
were reviewed and tested; their exact model metadata is unavailable.

DottaandPaperclip 7e0f051d3b Align task property icons with assignee avatars (#13319)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app that people use to manage AI agents
for work.
> - The task properties panel helps operators inspect and update task
data.
> - The status, assignee, and project rows used different leading icon
sizes.
> - The mixed sizes made the rows look uneven.
> - The assignee avatar already provides the correct 24px visual size.
> - This pull request sets the status and project visuals to that same
size.
> - The benefit is a tidy and consistent properties panel.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The task properties panel showed a 12px status icon, a 24px assignee
avatar, and a 16px project tile.

**Expected behavior**

The status, assignee, and project rows must use the same 24px leading
visual size.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open a task.
2. Open the Properties panel.
3. Compare the Status, Assignee, and Project rows.

## What Changed

- Keep the Status glyph at 16px and use spacing to give it the 24px
avatar footprint.
- Set the Project row tile to the 24px small tile size.
- Add a regression check for the Status row size.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` (72
tests passed)
- `pnpm check:token-gates` (all gates clean)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` (passed)
- Full repository typecheck and build reached the Rust runner step, but
this environment does not contain `cargo`.
- The full test command was stopped after unrelated chat integration
tests did not finish. The focused UI suite passed.

## Risks

- Low risk. This change only changes visual sizes in three property
rows.
- The wider status footprint can use slightly more horizontal space in a
narrow panel.

> This fix does not overlap with planned core work in `ROADMAP.md`.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.6, tool use and code execution enabled.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 94a0aa7726 fix(ui): hide workspace isolation controls for managed hosts (#13907)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - Workspace isolation keeps task checkouts separate.
> - Managed hosts can enable isolation and hide its experimental
toggles.
> - Project, task, and routine forms still expose choices that override
that policy.
> - This pull request adds an operator visibility key for those
controls.
> - Workspace access stays available, and execution keeps its existing
policy.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Operator control over workspace isolation settings in the UI. This
follows the settings list cleanup in #13905.

**Current behavior**

Hiding the experimental isolation toggles leaves project policy editors,
task selectors, routine and pipeline overrides, recovery actions, and
workspace configuration visible.

**Proposed behavior**

Set `PAPERCLIP_HIDDEN_SETTINGS=workspaces.isolation` to hide these
controls. Keep workspace navigation, status, files, and runtime access.
Hide experimental toggles separately. Instances that do not set this key
keep their controls.

**Reason and benefit**

Users on managed hosts should use the host's isolation default. A hidden
form must not submit a stale draft that overrides it.

## What Changed

- Add the UI-only `workspaces.isolation` key to the shared visibility
registry.
- Hide project workspace policy, task and subtask selectors, routine and
pipeline overrides, and isolated re-issue actions.
- Hide the workspace Configuration tab and redirect direct links to
workspace issues.
- Omit hidden new-task and routine overrides. Keep explicit task/subtask
workspace launch context, saved policies, and automatic branch values
for workspace routine runs.
- Wait for the health visibility policy before showing controls. Keep
workspace access and all execution APIs available.
- Document the key and test visibility, form payloads, deep links, and
unchanged workspace access.

## Verification

- All 52 CI checks pass on `50cc770d33` (two expected skips). The branch
is mergeable. Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved comments.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passed.
- `pnpm build` passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` passed.
- Targeted UI checks passed: 346 tests across 14 suites, including
hidden project/task controls, stale task drafts, routine branch
defaults, recovery actions, configuration deep links, and workspace
access.
- Shared settings-visibility tests passed: 11 tests.
- `pnpm test:run` was run and stopped after reproducing five failures in
unchanged server tests: two `chat-channels.integration` cases
(linked-request provenance and direct external-chat finals) and three
`company-skills-service` cases (runtime refresh, concurrent download,
and explicit update). The earlier local run for #13905 showed the same
failures. The full local suite is not claimed green. Targeted UI/shared
checks pass. All PR CI shards, including the affected chat and skills
suites, pass.
- Reviewed the diff for secrets, private links, and run artifacts.

## Risks

This key changes UI visibility only. It does not reject API calls or
change feature values. Operators must enable isolation and its default
through their existing policy mechanism. Older app versions ignore the
new key until upgraded. Removing the key restores the controls. No
schema changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, repository tools, and test
execution.

DottaandPaperclip 1ccae464c5 feat(ui): add task artifact media gallery and full-row links (#13825)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Tasks collect the files and work products that agents create.
> - The Artifacts tab shows these outputs in rows, which makes videos
hard to compare.
> - Small text links also make artifact rows harder to open.
> - This pull request adds image and video tiles with previews and makes
the full artifact row clickable.
> - Users can compare outputs and open the existing media viewer with
one click.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The task Artifacts tab and media previews in task chat.

**Current behavior**

Video outputs appear as file rows or icons. Users must click a small
link to open a work product. A task with eight video outputs gives
little visual context.

**Proposed behavior**

Show images and videos in a responsive gallery. Show a paused video
frame as the thumbnail. Keep documents, links, and other files in rows
whose entire area opens the item.

**Reason and benefit**

Users can compare generated media without opening each item. Larger
click targets also make the sidebar easier to use.

**Breaking changes**

None. This uses the existing artifact URLs, media viewer, run grouping,
and attachment filters. No API or database changes.

Related work: #11226 added the task sidebar output surface, and #7361
added rich attachment previews. #3524 concerns a separate
reviewed-assets panel. This PR improves the existing task artifact
components. The duplicate search found no active PR for this change.
This is polish for the shipped Artifacts & Work Products roadmap item.

## What Changed

- Add a shared media tile for work products and agent attachments.
- Reuse video and image previews in task artifacts and chat. Seek up to
one second into videos and reset preview state when the source changes.
- Use the existing task gallery for playback and downloads. Preserve
grouping and attachment deduplication.
- Extend native links and buttons across work-product rows, including
keyboard focus indicators.
- Add eight offline Storybook examples for video outputs, mixed media,
clickable rows, narrow and wide panels, missing previews, empty state,
and light mode.
- Register the component in the design guide and document its use.

## Verification

- 108 focused component tests pass, including thumbnail seeking, source
changes, gallery activation, and attachment deduplication.
- `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, Storybook build, token gates, and
`git diff --check` pass locally.
- Reviewed the production components in the embedded browser. Checked
all eight video thumbnails, mixed media, narrow layout, light mode,
blank-area row clicks, keyboard gallery activation for generic-MIME
images, and playback from chat video thumbnails.
- Storybook: open **Tasks / Artifact Gallery** and select **Eight Video
Outputs**, **Mixed Media And Files**, or **Whole Row Clickable**. The
small local clips are synthetic fixtures.
- All build, typecheck, unit, runner, and end-to-end CI jobs pass for
`b8ace289b5e07df5b9f2c319b159f3923ce427b4`. Greptile gives 5/5 with both
review findings resolved. All 54 PR checks pass, including the external
security scan. The full test suite passed in CI. The duplicate serial
local test run was stopped after CI finished; the 108 focused tests,
full build, and recursive typecheck passed locally.

## Risks

- Video thumbnails require the browser to load metadata and a frame. A
slow server or unsupported codec can leave the fallback visible; opening
and downloading still use the existing viewer.
- Full-row click targets change pointer interaction with work-product
cards. Native link and button semantics remain in place.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with code execution and browser tools. The exact
deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session.

1ef3b08714 feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears
across the app.
> - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive
static avatars.
> - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with
expressions and pointer tracking.
> - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing
views and preserves onboarding draft assignments.
> - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and
performance contract reviewable.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and
configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity.

**Proposed solution**

Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character
library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG
URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated
character in larger placements.

**Alternatives considered**

A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live
renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary
uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system.

**Roadmap alignment**

This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It
preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels.
ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone.

Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear
generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a
fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs.

## What Changed

- Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the
sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard
views.
- Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the
pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks.
- Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette
stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it
after success.
- Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each
agent separately.
- Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview,
task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page.
- Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance
checks.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased
tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass.
- The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks,
including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the
no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars.
- The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle,
density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration
and real on-demand avatar endpoint.
- Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests
pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and
Storybook build pass.
- Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized
server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and
end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner
concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally.
- Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header
placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard
placements.

### Screenshots

Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use
reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are
checked separately.

## Risks

- This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the
foundation first, then retarget this PR to master.
- Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human
avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing
behavior.
- Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion,
hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the
defined fallbacks.
- The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real
company or complete real provider sign-in.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context
window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell
execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing.

DottaandPaperclip d49f168381 fix: publish sandbox files on legacy and native runners (#13493)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agents must publish generated files so users can inspect their
results after a sandbox stops.
> - Legacy sandbox bridges blocked attachment listing and could not
carry multipart binary uploads through the queue transport.
> - The native runner has a separate verified file registration path
that needs the same durable result.
> - This pull request repairs legacy binary transport, makes native
download receipts explicit, and reveals new outputs in the task
Artifacts tab.
> - Users can open generated files from either runner without a
transport flag change.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #13355 for the existing native file publication path. Related
filename fixes: #2615 and #4788. Related sandbox persistence work:
#13376. This change repairs attachment delivery through the existing
API; it does not add workspace persistence.

**What happened?**

The upload helper first lists task attachments to avoid duplicates. Both
legacy bridge allowlists rejected that GET request with 403. A direct
multipart upload also failed: the queue bridge accepted only JSON,
excluded attachment uploads, and converted bytes to UTF-8 text. Enabling
HTTP/2 alone did not fix the missing listing route. These failures
occurred before attachment storage.

**Expected behavior**

Both runners can publish a workspace file, register its work product,
bind it to a response, and return a working download. The file stays
accessible after sandbox deletion. A new output opens the task Artifacts
tab. The agent receives accurate errors and decides how to retry or
report a failure.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Run a legacy agent in Daytona with the duplex bridge disabled.
2. Invoke the bundled upload helper with Bash on a PNG or PDF.
3. Repeat with the duplex bridge enabled.
4. Register the same file through the native runner with generic API
tools disabled.
5. Retry registration, delete the sandbox, and compare the downloaded
bytes with the original file.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The failing baseline was `f2c5e54dc`. This branch is rebased onto
`6cfe4acff`.

**Deployment mode**

Source checkout with a local API and real isolated Daytona sandboxes.

## What Changed

- Allow authenticated attachment listing, upload, and content download
through both legacy bridge transports.
- Add optional base64 body encoding to queue envelopes. Preserve the
existing UTF-8 contract when the encoding field is absent. Decode binary
bodies before forwarding them.
- Preserve multipart headers. Bound raw bytes, encoded envelopes, and
in-flight reservations. Retain timeout and uncertain-write behavior.
- Preserve helper deduplication and return structured uncertain-write
failures. Document explicit Bash invocation in live skills.
- Add attachment IDs and content/download paths to native registration
receipts. Reuse verified local and remote file reads, attachment
storage, work-product registration, and response binding.
- Preserve Unicode upload filenames and provide a valid
Content-Disposition header.
- Open the task Artifacts tab when new stored outputs arrive, including
a closed desktop panel or mobile drawer. Deduplicate upload and
registration events by object ID. Preserve manual selection on
refetches, edits, and panel remounts.
- Remove task artifact filters, the company Artifacts footer link, and
the unassigned group heading and timestamp.

### Screenshot

![Generated images and a document in the task Artifacts
tab](https://pages.paperclip.ing/sandbox-file-delivery-2026-09-15/artifacts-tab.png)

This is the local display fixture. The image was generated separately
and published through the attachment and work-product APIs.

## Verification

- Post-rebase `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass.
- The post-rebase local `pnpm test:run` passed 12,369 tests before one
existing conversation reset test timed out; all 33 tests in that suite
pass when rerun with isolated test configuration. The aggregate command
stopped before its remaining groups. GitHub runs the complete suite in
separate shards.
- All [GitHub verification
checks](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35017893350)
pass on `b66ac276dd3d5fc738a22ecea783400106a494d4`: 32 successful checks
and two configured skips. The native-session recovery assertion
initially raced its fire-and-forget Sentry report; all 13 tests pass
locally, and the same-commit CI rerun passes all 170 suites (3,079
tests).
- Live post-rebase Daytona: all three file-delivery tests pass. They
cover the real Bash helper with the queue bridge, the helper with
HTTP/2, and native `register_deliverable` with generic API tools
disabled.
- Daytona cases cover PNG/PDF bytes, spaced and Unicode names, duplicate
registration, response binding, authorization controls, and
byte-for-byte downloads after sandbox deletion.
- Local focused coverage includes transfer bounds, malformed encoding,
interrupted transfers, remote path containment, and native file
verification. The attachment route suite passes all 32 tests, including
an eight-case filename-header matrix for Unicode and special characters,
inline and forced downloads, and full and partial responses.
- Browser verification confirms image previews, persisted downloads,
automatic Artifacts selection, and preserved manual selection after
edits and reloads. Desktop/mobile component coverage passes. The latest
UI cleanup passes its 10 affected tests and token gates.
- Coverage limit: the Daytona tests call the real helper and native
registration path directly. They do not replay a complete model-led
image-generation task through the browser.

Live command (requires a configured Daytona credential):

```sh
PAPERCLIP_FILE_DELIVERY_DAYTONA=1 pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/file-delivery-bridges.test.ts
```

## Risks

- Binary queue bodies use more memory because base64 adds encoding
overhead. Transfer and process limits must remain aligned.
- An interrupted write can have an unknown result. The bridge reports
this state and preserves stable retry identities.
- New artifacts intentionally change the active task tab. Existing
history and repeated updates must not take focus again.
- Transport flag defaults, server authorization, frozen skill snapshots,
and completion policies remain unchanged. No schema migration is
required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more
specific model ID or context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 422287eecd fix: preserve runner recovery, warm sessions, and task outcomes (#13338)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The native runner connects task messages, provider execution, and
task outcomes.
> - First-time user tests exposed gaps in recovery, completion
permissions, message delivery, and Stop behavior.
> - These gaps left usable output hidden, completed work waiting for
bookkeeping, or safe work unable to continue.
> - This pull request fixes the shared lifecycle and receipt paths while
preserving process ownership and action checks.
> - Users can continue work with accurate task state and durable
messages.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A stopped local Codex execution could remain blocked even after its
processes had stopped and its complete transcript proved that no
external action needed replay. Claude under Conservative permissions
could fail to call task completion tools. Recovery could reuse an
assistant item ID and overwrite prior output. A delivered comment could
remain marked uncertain after navigation. Stop could look like Pause or
a new recovery incident. Workspace contention could look like
cancellation. A direct reply reopening Done could enter a clarification
loop.

**Expected behavior**

Recover automatically only with verified termination and complete action
receipts. Preserve answers and messages. Keep task completion available
under Conservative permissions without broad tool access. Show crashes
as Blocked, actual human decisions as In Review, and ordinary workspace
contention as waiting. Stop the current response and allow a new
direction.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Create ordinary response tasks with local Codex and Claude Code, then
send follow-up messages through the task composer.
2. Interrupt a disposable local Codex runner during text-only work.
Verify automatic continuation and retained output.
3. Stop a response, send a new request, answer a clarification, and
reopen completed work with another message.
4. Navigate or reload while a comment submission is pending. Confirm the
exact persisted request receipt settles it without removing newer draft
text.
5. Run two tasks in a shared Daytona workspace. Confirm waiting does not
appear as failure.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Initial acceptance baseline: `c9021c6721f91e2c74bd9fee9d3fd41c999d17b7`.
Current integration base: `6cef9743c`. Both operator-interruption and
workspace-waiting guards are preserved; native restart and legacy
permission rules remain documented.

**Deployment mode**

An isolated source-built test-drive instance, with real local Codex and
Claude Code providers and disposable Daytona environments.

Related work: #13314, #13316, #13327, #13344, #13239, #13254, #13163.
This PR addresses additional failures from ordinary task journeys,
including controller restart handoff and repeated warm sandbox setup.
Historical task status reconciliation is excluded.

## What Changed

- Persist runner ownership immediately at spawn and resume an explicitly
adopted runner even when the controller crashed before the first driver
checkpoint. Detach the controller safely across graceful restarts,
including session startup. Prevent an old finalizer from suspending or
signaling an adopted runner. Checkpoint idle warm sessions before
shutdown. Preserve the same run and queued follow-up messages.
- Scope saved legacy queue successor checks to the queue owner while
preserving ordinary task locks, operator identity, assignment gates, and
exactly-once delivery.
- Preserve managed Codex credential files when an old session is
detached for restart; normal owned cleanup still copies refreshed auth
back and removes the scoped copy.
- Reuse the bound warm shared sandbox and fully verify an existing
staged provider pack before using it. This avoids repeated uploads when
the pack is already valid.
- Add a narrow local Codex replacement path with stopped-process proof,
a closed transcript inventory, exact completion receipts, and
fresh-session lineage. Preserve no-replay holds when evidence is
incomplete. Recovery may clear only the same run's recorded Blocked
status version; manual re-blocking and dependency changes invalidate
that receipt, while queued comments do not. Later blocks stop scheduled,
queued, and final dispatch; queued/final checks re-read dependencies
even when the task status stays In Progress.
- Permit only task delivery and human-input tools through the isolated
Claude runner's exact task bridge.
- Scope assistant item identity to the provider turn and ignore only
authority-free Codex skill-change notifications during startup.
- Reconcile composer submissions by client request ID across response
loss, navigation, and reload. Retain text typed during delivery.
- Keep acknowledged run-only Stop neutral and show workspace contention
as waiting. Project exhausted native failures as Blocked.
- Restore the guarded task-page retry action for failed legacy runs,
including the server-supported explicit new-attempt path for stopped
conversation adapters. Preserve native/process recovery holds and avoid
promising Retry while a decision or execution gate hides it.
- Refresh delivered artifacts and handle direct user replies that reopen
completed work without a clarification loop.
- Check the embedded PostgreSQL PID, data directory, and actual port
before connecting or migrating.
- Document accepted behavior and add focused regressions at lifecycle,
route, transcript, and UI boundaries.

## Verification

- Final head `fece606ac2` passes the complete GitHub CI matrix: **34
green checks, two expected Storybook skips, no failures or pending
checks**, including `ci / verify`, `ci / e2e`, full runner verification,
typecheck, build, every server/workspace shard, and all browser shards.
[CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34727183287).
Greptile is **5/5 with no open findings**. The final two commits only
refine test fixtures; both affected suites pass 24/24 locally and in CI,
with server typecheck green.
- Complete local Vitest coverage uses the canonical groups/shards: all
635 general server suites, all 145 serialized suites, and all workspace
packages. The aggregate began on `0a8001c18` while the final queue fix
arrived: 23,903 passed, five failed, 87 skipped. The five
port/socket/timing failures passed unchanged in follow-ups (60 tests in
the exposure/file suites and 412 tests covering the serialized failures
and unrun tails). The final queue/operator-identity suites separately
passed 52/52. This is aggregate coverage plus explicit reruns, not a
pristine single-command final-head run.
- After integration with current master,
queue/operator-identity/continuation suites passed 162/162 and affected
UI suites passed 140/140. ACP Stop/continuation and legacy
task/Inbox/message browser suites passed 9/9, including both task
recovery Retry and thread Try again, automatic saved-message delivery,
exactly one new run, Done, and retained output after reload. The default
process Stop/Pause/Resume browser case passed (the native-provider case
is opt-in and skipped by default). The complete Board attachment/receipt
browser suite passed 11/11 on a disposable instance, covering both
composers, exact receipts after lost responses, no replay, bound
attachments, and newer drafts after reload.
- Blocking-intent regressions cover pre-existing Blocked, a mismatched
run/cause, an explicit manual re-block, changed dependencies, a queued
comment after failure, and a block arriving between scheduling and
provider dispatch. The negative cases reproduced before the fix. All 478
affected executor/recovery/dispatch tests passed; both database suites
ran separately after availability-probe skips in the first combined
command. The final late-dependency check passed all 143 affected
recovery/dispatch tests (zero skips) after two new negative cases
reproduced the bug.
- Focused runtime regressions cover awaited runner ownership
publication, authenticated adoption before the first checkpoint,
old-finalizer detachment, idle and busy warm-session shutdown, rejected
checkpoint propagation, provider-pack verification, and managed-Codex
credential preservation. Four managed credential detachment cases
reproduced the bug before the fix; normal owned cleanup still succeeds
exactly once.
- Live local Claude: SIGKILL 2.6 seconds into startup recovered the same
run automatically in 53 seconds, then a normal follow-up completed in 24
seconds. SIGTERM 2.5 seconds into startup preserved the same run (54
seconds) and its queued follow-up (21 seconds). Answers remained visible
and the task reached Done.
- Live Claude Daytona: a warm follow-up retained its sandbox and fell
from 121 seconds to 44 seconds. A separate cold turn took 127 seconds;
after controller shutdown and checkpointing, its follow-up completed in
33 seconds with the same sandbox, workspace, native session, and runner.
Both answers remained visible and the task was Done.
- Other live journeys covered task completion and follow-up with local
and Daytona Codex, local Codex crash recovery, Stop then new direction,
clarification response, live artifact refresh, and shared-workspace
waiting.
- Validation limits: the opt-in native composer Stop/Pause→subtree
Resume fixture exposes terminal/result ordering and subtree-cancellation
attribution bugs that can leave a child task blocked; that new finding
is assigned to a separate follow-up and is not claimed fixed here.
Default CI skips this optional native-provider fixture. Managed-Codex
credential handoff and the queue-agent integration use automated
regression evidence. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup
latency.

## Risks

- Automatic replacement remains deliberately narrow: local Codex,
verified stopped identities, unchanged retained state, and a complete
text/completion-only turn. Unknown actions, partial history, or changed
ownership remain blocked.
- Claude completion permission handling changes an upstream package
patch. The exact isolated task bridge must remain pinned; unrelated
tools keep their existing permissions.
- New task failure projection changes user-visible status. No historical
status backfill or database migration is included.
- This is a broad lifecycle fix across server and UI. Live proof covers
graceful local Claude restart during startup and idle Claude Daytona
session recovery across controller shutdown. Live abrupt SIGKILL during
local Claude startup also recovered the same run. Unknown ownership or
missing action evidence still blocks reuse. Cold custom provider-pack
uploads still add startup latency; this change avoids unnecessary repeat
uploads.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, code execution, browser
automation, and tool use. The exact hosted model ID and context window
are not exposed in this task.

9b7bd41833 feat(ui): refine dashboard cards, charts, and recent lists (#13269)
## Thinking Path

and recent runs.
> - Large transcript cards take space and make it hard to compare run

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The agent run cards on the dashboard and Live runs page, plus dashboard
charts and recent lists.

**Subsystem affected**

`ui/` — React board UI.

**Current behavior**

Both views show large cards with embedded transcripts. Queued and
running cards share a live treatment. The dashboard chart grid leaves an
empty column, recent lists use different row sizes, and some activity
labels expose raw event names.

**Proposed behavior**

Both views use the same compact grid. Each card shows the existing
initials avatar, the agent name, one linked task row, and a
right-aligned timestamp. There is no status chip next to the agent name.
The timestamp uses small Inter text and the same muted gray as dashboard
metric descriptions. Recovery details remain in the task view. Run
status remains in the header tooltip and accessible label, and run
transcripts remain in the run detail view. The shared in-progress task
icon is now an animated circular spinner across the app.

**Reason and benefit**

Operators can scan task states without scrolling through embedded
output. The in-progress spinner keeps the shared task icon sizes,
circular shape, and stroke width. It honors reduced-motion preferences.

**Breaking changes**

The dashboard and Live runs page no longer show transcripts inside
cards. Open the agent header to inspect a run. There are no API or
database changes.

**Additional context**

Related public work found during the duplicate search:

- Refs #4317 — related run-state display concerns. This change does not
change server state reconciliation.
- Refs #11394 — related live-run cache updates. This change retains the
existing data flow.
- Refs #2118 — related navigation from agent cards. The card header here
opens the specific run.

## What Changed

- Apply compact cards to the dashboard and Live runs page, with status
icons and theme tokens.
- Use 16 × 16px status icons in the shared cards, including the
missing-task clock.
- Keep the existing circular initials avatar. Remove the status chip
beside the agent name while preserving the run label for tooltips and
accessibility.
- Replace the shared in-progress task glyph with an animated open
circle. Use the same 10-unit radius and 2-unit stroke as the other task
glyphs, with a reduced-motion guard across all task status surfaces.
This is the requested workflow-status indicator across the app,
including between runs; live indicators separately report active
execution.
- Use the same Tailwind blue tokens as nav dots and Live labels for the
progress icon: blue-400 in dark mode and blue-600 in light mode.
Covered-blocked icons follow the same blue token.
- Match the Tasks by Status chart's In Progress bar and legend to the
spinner's theme-aware color token.
- Distribute the three visible dashboard charts across equal-width
desktop columns, preserving existing gaps, card padding, and page
margins. Retain four columns when the optional priority chart is
enabled.
- Use the done task icon's `--status-task-icon-done` token for green
bars in Run Activity, Tasks by Status, and Success Rate, including their
legends.
- Use the blocked task icon's `--status-task-icon-blocked` token for red
bars and legends in Run Activity, Tasks by Status, Success Rate, and
priority charts.
- Align Recent Tasks live counts to the sidebar's right edge. Reveal the
ellipsis over a fading row surface on hover, keyboard focus, and while
its menu is open, without moving the label or count.
- Keep the ellipsis backdrop synchronized with the row background during
fade-out, using the actual sidebar surface in both themes to prevent a
darker flash.
- On coarse-pointer devices, reserve space for the always-visible
ellipsis and disable its fade so the live count remains readable beside
it.
- Order desktop dashboard Recent Tasks as status icon, task title, agent
avatar/name, 11px monospace task ID, then timestamp. In narrow cards,
keep the ID right-aligned beside the truncated title and place the agent
and timestamp on the second line.
- Give both dashboard lists the same 48px desktop rows, 24px leading
slots, 80px desktop task ID columns, and 64px right-aligned timestamp
columns. Use an 8px icon-to-content gap matching the task detail
heading. Narrow layouts use matching 76px rows with intrinsic-width IDs
on the title line; activity timestamps stay below.
- Order dashboard Recent Activity as actor avatar, actor name, verb,
task title, 11px monospace task ID, then timestamp. Use direct verbs
such as “Board read …” instead of “issue read marked”. Truncate titles
to preserve IDs and timestamps; keep full names and titles in tooltips.
- Use 12px task status icons in the top breadcrumb and Properties status
row. Keep the main task title icon at 20px.
- Reduce monospace task IDs to the 11px micro type token in breadcrumbs
and shared run cards, aligning them to the adjacent task titles' text
baseline while keeping status icons centered.
- Show the task title and identifier in one bordered row. Keep
missing-task links usable and show lookup failures.
- Remove the recovery chip and place the timestamp below the task row.
- Keep the link to all runs available when the dashboard has four or
fewer runs.
- Avoid transcript polling for compact cards.
- Fix bundled Inter font URLs and update the design guide and Storybook
fixtures.
- Cover run navigation, task status, failed lookups, shared icon sizes
and stroke, and reduced-motion-safe animation in tests.

## Verification

- Latest review fixes: targeted SidebarRecentTasks, SidebarNavItem,
StatusGlyph, StatusIcon, ActiveAgentsPanel, activity-format,
ui-font-assets, and Dashboard suites — 65 tests pass, including
read/unread verbs and reduced-motion-safe task animation.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passes.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — all gates pass.
- `git diff --check` — passes.
- Related component suites passed during development: run cards, status
glyphs, breadcrumbs, issue properties, charts, sidebar navigation,
recent-task actions, and settings sidebar.
- Full repository `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass on the final
commit using the temporary Rust toolchain. Storybook build passed
earlier in preparation.
- All CI gates pass on `c85e949b12b471d425d216caa609aee41dc58bde`: all
general/workspace and serialized server test shards, all three browser
shards, build/runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary
dry run, policy, and security checks. The duplicate local `pnpm
test:run` was stopped after CI completed the same test suites; it is not
claimed as a completed local pass. The two Storybook jobs are skipped by
the configured draft-PR workflow.
- Greptile reviewed the final commit at 5/5 with no actionable findings
and zero unresolved review threads.
- Browser measurements at 1654px, 860px, and 390px confirm matching 48px
desktop and 76px narrow rows (plus 1px dividers), right-aligned IDs on
the title line, 64px timestamp slots, and no horizontal overflow. Narrow
Recent Tasks rows retain readable agent names below the title. Activity
reads as actor, verb, title, ID, time. Additional reference details can
expand an activity row.
- Verified three equal-width desktop charts with 16px gaps and aligned
outer edges. Chart blues, greens, and reds resolve to the matching
task-icon tokens.
- Verified real queued, running, succeeded, failed, cancelled, and
timed-out runs in the dev dashboard. Checked compact cards, task/run
links, timestamps, light/dark themes, and narrow layout.
- To inspect: open Dashboard, then Live runs. Both pages use the same
small cards. Open an agent header for run output, or the task row for
task details.
- Verified the updated spinner on the real dashboard cards, Recent
tasks, and task list. Checked actual SVG circle radius, rendered size,
and stroke width. Confirmed the spinner, nav dots, and Live labels
resolve to the identical blue-400 color in the dark-mode preview; light
mode uses their shared blue-600 token.
- Verified 12px computed width and height in the task breadcrumb and
Properties pane, the restored 20px main task icon, and 11px task IDs
with baseline alignment in the breadcrumb and shared dashboard/Live runs
cards.
- Verified the chart bar and legend resolve to the spinner color; Recent
Tasks counts align with Dashboard's count. Checked the fading ellipsis
overlay with keyboard focus and its open-menu state, then dismissed the
menu.

## Risks

- Operators must open run details to read output that was previously
embedded.
- Run outcomes are available in the header tooltip and run details
instead of a visible status chip. An in-progress task icon reflects task
status, independently of an individual run's outcome.
- Long names and task titles truncate within the compact layout. Full
labels remain available through links and tooltips.
- Font loading changes affect all UI text that uses the bundled Inter
font. The files remain served from the existing public fonts directory.
- No schema, API, adapter, or execution-policy changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with extended reasoning,
repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. The session
does not expose the context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 2043e0c735 fix: repair runner configuration, macOS execution, and artifact galleries (#13062)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent adapters select a provider, a model, and a runtime.
> - Runner conversion rejected existing Claude agents. The model list
mixed providers.
> - The native Claude runner rejected custom models and could not launch
on macOS.
> - This pull request fixes conversion, model selection, and verified
macOS execution.
> - It also groups configuration fields consistently across adapters and
opens artifact images in the task gallery.
> - Operators can change an agent configuration and run the selected
model on their Mac.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Converting an existing Claude agent to Paperclip Runner failed with a
Codex-only restriction. ACPX Claude showed unrelated models and required
`claude-sonnet-5`. Its native runtime rejected macOS. Configuration
mixed common model settings with process controls. Artifact cards
labeled “Open gallery” navigated to attachment URLs instead of opening
the task gallery.

**Expected behavior**

Conversion keeps agent identity and compatible settings. ACPX Claude
uses the normal Claude catalog and accepts typed model IDs. Codex uses
the native runner. The verified Claude runtime can launch on macOS ARM64
and x64. Common configuration sections place the same fields together
across adapters. Artifact images open in the shared task gallery with
navigation and downloads.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open the configuration of an existing Claude agent.
2. Convert it to Paperclip Runner.
3. Select ACPX Claude and a different catalog model or a typed model ID.
4. Save the agent and run a disposable task on macOS.
5. Inspect configuration and advanced run-policy controls across
adapters.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The bugs were reproduced on `165ca56a22adb60e5fda56045442d9c8498116a8`.
This branch was rebased onto `7ed122911`.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source. Local test-drive instance on macOS ARM64 with an
isolated database.

Related work: #11798 addresses unsupported ACP session options in the
existing adapter path. #13048 addresses working-folder preservation.
This change fixes native runner configuration and launch behavior.

## What Changed

- Remove the Codex-only conversion restriction. Preserve agent identity,
instructions, directories, credentials, and compatible model settings.
Reset incompatible sessions while retaining history.
- Show ACPX Claude and native Codex as distinct provider choices. Remove
ACPX Codex from advertised configuration. Normalize legacy
configurations before fresh runs without rewriting historical run
descriptors.
- Select model catalogs and cache entries by provider. Support refresh
and typed model IDs. Pass exact Claude IDs through session creation,
model changes, and recovery.
- Add verified macOS ARM64 and x64 Claude SDK snapshots. Bound
executable allocation and total snapshot size. Preserve package checks,
dependency isolation, process ownership, cancellation, and Linux
descriptor loading.
- Probe local runtime readiness. Report remote platform checks as
incomplete until the remote runner verifies its runtime.
- Surface actual model rejection and allow correction and retry.
- Repair missing ACPX goal-capability helpers exposed by the post-rebase
live test. Persist and restore the optional capability without breaking
session startup.
- Put Agent identity first and intentionally remove the Capabilities
editor, as requested. This is removal of UI editing, not relocation:
preserve existing capability metadata and API compatibility without
adding another editor. Use the themed select for configurable permission
modes, with normal text instead of monospace.
- Put model and provider under Adapter. Give environment variables their
own section. Fold command and arguments under Configuration. Fold
lifecycle, timeout, and interrupt grace under Advanced Run Policy. Hide
single-option permission controls.

- Open image and video artifact cards in the existing task gallery,
including cards in the artifacts panel. Chat attachment images use the
same gallery. Preserve standalone media previews and download links.

## Verification

- Rebased focused UI/API/database suites: 293 tests passed.
- Rebased native runtime and ACPX suites: 242 passed, 7 skipped.
- Repository typecheck, build, and token gates passed for the runner
changes. Gallery follow-up UI typecheck, build, and token gates also
passed.
- Follow-up UI suites passed (86 tests), packaging checks passed (14
tests), and the final focused runtime suites passed (126 passed, 7
skipped).
- Linux container isolation and lifecycle fixtures passed before rebase
(57 passed, 2 skipped). Rust ACPX provider-session tests passed after
rebase (8 tests).
- Browser tests completed actual Claude and native Codex tasks on macOS
ARM64. They covered conversion, catalog refresh, a non-default catalog
model, a typed `haiku` ID, save/reload, cancel, follow-up session
continuity, invalid-model errors, and recovery.
- Final-revision live tests completed a typed Claude task, a follow-up
with the same provider session, and a native Codex task on macOS ARM64.
- Browser tests confirmed the moved interrupt-grace field saves and
survives reload. Cross-adapter tests cover Claude, Codex, Gemini,
process, gateway, and schema forms.
- Full local run: 7,080 passed, 30 skipped, and two timeouts. Both
timeout suites passed on isolated rerun (84 tests); the failures were
the plugin login-worker exit diagnostic and the runner real-server
vertical slice.
- Final follow-up checks: 50 registry tests and 45 snapshot/installation
tests passed (6 platform-specific skips). Oversized executable rejection
is covered before allocation or reading; unsupported-platform tests
invoke the real installation probe.
- Runner head `ddb5101c483a297f74875ab96b3c66035b002d50`: all CI gates
green, including full runner verification, repository build, typecheck,
general/serialized server suites, browser tests, and canary dry run. [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34286178670).
- Greptile: 5/5 on that runner head. All four review threads resolved.
Superagent, Socket, and Snyk checks green.
- After snapshot hardening, another real Claude task completed on this
Mac using the rebuilt runtime.

- Gallery follow-up: 148 focused tests passed, covering artifact
selection, shared attachment collections, deduplication, image/video
cards, standalone previews, downloads, and closing. Live browser
verification completed on the settings follow-up: artifact selection,
6-image pagination with wrapping, download action, and closing all
stayed on the same task URL. All checks passed on gallery head
`96136da58ff195bf6ca00b281eb3022ad12d7bd8`: [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34287987536).
Greptile returned 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads.

- Final settings polish: 96 focused tests, UI typecheck/build, and token
gates passed. A real browser walkthrough verified readable permission
options, identity placement, Capabilities removal, and permission
save/reload. Original test-agent permission mode restored. All 31 checks
passed on final head `e46540d6bf32bfb0566dca16b2f4a75ba437618c`: [CI
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34292797886).
Greptile returned 5/5 with no unresolved threads.

## Risks

- Capabilities intentionally has no editable UI field after this change.
Existing values remain readable and API-compatible; removing the field
does not erase stored metadata.

- macOS launch now copies verified package files into private snapshots.
The implementation must retain isolation and clean up snapshots on exit.
- Runtime provider or model changes reset the current session.
Historical runs remain available.
- The macOS x64 SDK executable digest was verified, but a live Intel Mac
run was not available. Linux verification used container fixtures, not a
real Claude task.
- Remote environment tests report a warning when only the platform has
been checked. They do not claim package readiness from the server host.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact served model identifier and
context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning,
repository inspection, code execution, Rust and TypeScript tests, and
browser automation.

Michael NguyenandPaperclip 77312ee2d9 feat(codex): add GPT-6 Astra support (#12851)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app that people use to manage AI agents
for work.
> - The Codex local adapter supplies model metadata to the server and
the user interface.
> - OpenAI now lists `gpt-6-astra` as a supported Codex model.
> - Paperclip did not list this model or its model-specific controls.
> - This pull request adds the model through the existing adapter
metadata path.
> - The benefit is that agents and task overrides can use the exact
model ID and supported controls.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

`packages/adapters` and `ui`

**Problem or motivation**

Paperclip does not expose `gpt-6-astra` in Codex model selectors.
Operators cannot select and save the model through the normal agent and
task forms.

**Proposed solution**

Register the exact model ID in the Codex local adapter. Use the adapter
as the source for the model-specific reasoning options. Preserve the
current default model. Forward the saved model, reasoning effort, and
fast-mode controls through both Codex execution lanes.

**Alternatives considered**

A user-interface-only model list would duplicate adapter metadata. A
model alias would not match the official model ID. Both options were
rejected.

**Roadmap alignment**

This is a small adapter compatibility update. It does not duplicate a
planned item in `ROADMAP.md`.

## What Changed

- Added `gpt-6-astra` to the Codex local adapter model registry and
fast-mode support list.
- Added the official Astra reasoning efforts: `low`, `medium`, `high`,
`xhigh`, `max`, and `ultra`.
- Used the adapter metadata in agent and task model selectors.
- Preserved supported effort choices when the model changes. Cleared an
effort only when the new model does not support it.
- Added tests for registration, user-interface selection, configuration
persistence, and CLI and ACP forwarding.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapters/codex-local/src/index.test.ts
packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/acp.test.ts
packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/codex-args.test.ts

ui/src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx
ui/src/lib/issue-assignee-overrides.test.ts` passed 245 tests.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` passed all four gates across 939 files.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed and supplied isolated
user-interface build proof.
- `pnpm build` passed.
- `pnpm test:run` passed 5,812 tests and failed 24 workspace-runtime
tests in this isolated host. The failures use invalid generated ports
above 65,535, incomplete nested-worktree fixture configuration, or
`/tmp` path aliases. The focused tests for this change all pass. GitHub
CI must pass before review handoff.
- GitHub CI run `33918372718` passed all required checks and the
aggregate verify gate on exact head
`6ac6be2cee0a5996c82bdf674fcb7f46cb4c5fde`.
- Independent engineering review approved the exact remediation head
after 170/170 reviewer tests passed.
- Greptile reported 5/5 with no open review threads on exact head
`6ac6be2cee0a5996c82bdf674fcb7f46cb4c5fde`.
- The model ID and capabilities were checked against the [official
OpenAI Codex model list](https://developers.openai.com/codex/models).

## Risks

- Low risk. The change adds one model and model-specific selector
options. It does not change the default model.
- OpenAI can change model capabilities later. The adapter metadata must
stay aligned with the official Codex metadata.

> For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and
discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap
first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex with model ID `gpt-5.6-sol`, a 272,000-token context
window, reasoning, tool use, and code execution.

DottaandPaperclip 87d05e194b feat(work-products): add rich cards and run artifact inventory (#12717)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the control plane for AI-agent companies.
> - Agent outputs must remain visible after a run and easy to inspect
from a task.
> - The thread and artifact inventory need one consistent rich-card
vocabulary.
> - Run uploads also need durable artifact registration and
producing-run context.
> - Reviewers need deterministic examples for each rich-card kind and
state.
> - This pull request adds the shared presentation, registration,
inventory, and Storybook review coverage.
> - The benefit is a complete output path that reviewers can inspect
without seeded data.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

This change improves work-product presentation in task threads and the
task Artifacts tab.

**Subsystem affected**

The change affects shared work-product contracts, the runner diff path,
server attachment and work-product services, GitHub metadata refresh,
the React board UI, and Storybook.

**Current behavior**

The thread used generic cards. Some files uploaded by a run existed only
as message attachments. The Artifacts tab showed a flat list without run
context or filters. Storybook showed only one resting card per kind.

**Proposed behavior**

The thread uses rich cards for supported work-product types. Each
run-produced file registers one attachment-backed artifact work product.
The Artifacts tab groups outputs by run and supports filters. Storybook
shows every kind and requested state, PR lifecycle states, stats
variants, truncation, mobile layout, and message-tail media.

**Reason and benefit**

Users can identify outputs quickly. Reviewers can inspect all card
permutations without creating task data.

**Breaking changes**

None. The metadata fields and automatic artifact registration are
additive. Existing attachments and work products keep their current
behavior.

## What Changed

- Added a shared rich work-product card with kind-specific content and a
compact inventory variant.
- Added pull-request and commit diff metadata plus bounded GitHub state
refresh.
- Added media strips and typed file chips to message-tail attachments.
- Registered each run-produced attachment as an artifact work product in
the same server transaction.
- Grouped task artifacts by run with agent and timestamp headings.
- Added type and run filters, image thumbnails, compact cards, and a
company Artifacts link.
- Added a Storybook kind-by-state matrix with stats variants for all
eight visual kinds.
- Added PR open, draft, merged, and closed examples, long-title
truncation, an exact 375-pixel viewport, and message-tail overflow
coverage.
- Closed reconciled runtime work products when the linked runtime stops
or disappears, so the card shows `Stopped` instead of `Unhealthy`.

- Greptile passed at 5/5 with zero unresolved threads.

## Risks

- Low risk. The Storybook change adds review fixtures only. The runtime
fix changes read-time reconciliation without database writes.
- The matrix is intentionally large so every permutation stays visible
in one review surface.

work.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex with GPT-5 and GPT-5.6-sol across this pull request.
Reasoning, tool use, and code execution were enabled. The context-window
size is not exposed.

DottaandPaperclip 109d81db4f Add task workspace picker to properties pane (#12693)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The task properties pane lets an operator change the settings for
one task.
> - The pane did not let an operator select the execution workspace for
the next run.
> - The existing workspace card had selection rules that another control
could copy by mistake.
> - This pull request adds one shared selection module and one compact
property picker.
> - The picker keeps the current workspace active until the next run.
> - The benefit is a clear workspace choice in the task properties pane
without an API change.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

ui/ — React + Vite board UI

**Problem or motivation**

An operator cannot set the execution workspace from the new task
properties pane. The existing task workspace card also owns selection
rules that a second control could copy and change over time.

**Proposed solution**

Add a compact workspace property picker. Put the shared selection and
update rules in one UI module. Show the picker only when isolated
workspaces and the project workspace policy are enabled.

**Alternatives considered**

The existing workspace card could remain the only control. This would
leave the new task interface incomplete. The picker could also copy the
card logic, but that would create two sources of truth.

**Roadmap alignment**

This is a small UI improvement for existing workspace controls. It does
not duplicate a planned item in `ROADMAP.md`.

Related workspace work: Refs #12682. That pull request changes runner
recovery and other workspace controls. It does not add this task
property picker.

## What Changed

- Added shared helpers for the current workspace selection and its issue
update payload.
- Updated the existing workspace card to use the shared helpers without
changing its project-default behavior.
- Added a gated workspace property picker with mode and workspace search
steps.
- Added unit and component tests for visibility, selection payloads,
search, and workspace reuse.
- Rebased onto the upstream native-run teardown fix so CI drains
background heartbeat writes before PostgreSQL cleanup.

## Verification

- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/lib/issue-workspace-selection.test.ts
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx` — 74 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed.
- `pnpm build` — passed.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/services/native-runtime/native-question-bridge.test.ts` — 8 tests
passed on the rebased head. The upstream teardown drain prevents the
prior PostgreSQL cleanup deadlock.

## Risks

- Low risk. This is a gated UI-only change.
- A wrong selection payload could change the next workspace mode. Exact
payload tests cover every mode.
- The old card must keep its existing project-default payload. A
shared-helper test covers that payload.

## Model Used

are not exposed. The agent used reasoning, tool use, and code execution.

DottaandPaperclip 4b6de5327e Remove cheap model profiles (#12683)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents that use different model providers and
adapters.
> - Paperclip must keep agent execution rules clear and predictable.
> - The cheap-model profile added a second execution mode across
adapters, task recovery, APIs, and the UI.
> - That mode increased configuration and recovery complexity.
> - This pull request removes the cheap-model profile as a product
feature.
> - The benefit is one model-selection path for normal work and recovery
work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

This change simplifies model selection across agent configuration, task
execution, recovery, and adapter capabilities.

**Current behavior**

Paperclip exposes cheap-model profiles in adapter metadata, agent
runtime configuration, task overrides, recovery rules, APIs, and the
board UI. Recovery work can select a different model profile from the
agent's configured model.

**Proposed behavior**

Paperclip uses the agent's configured model for normal work and recovery
work. Status-only recovery stays limited to coordination work. The API
rejects legacy model-profile configuration. A migration removes stored
model-profile values from existing agent, issue, and historical revision
records.

**Reason and benefit**

One model path reduces configuration, API, UI, and recovery complexity.
It also prevents status recovery from becoming a separate product-level
model-routing feature.

**Breaking changes**

This change removes model-profile fields and adapter capability
metadata. Existing stored model-profile values are removed by an
idempotent migration. The validators reject new legacy profile values
with clear errors.

## What Changed

- Removed model-profile types, adapter capabilities, API fields, and
model selection logic.
- Removed cheap-model controls from agent and task UI surfaces.
- Kept status-only recovery limited to coordination context while normal
continuations use the configured agent model.
- Added an idempotent migration that removes stored model-profile values
from agents, issues, and configuration revisions without changing issue
update timestamps.
- Updated tests and product documentation for the single-model behavior.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` passes.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passes.
- `pnpm build` passes.
- `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,607 passing tests and 8
environment-sensitive failures in unrelated fixed-port and
database-deadlock suites. The same failures repeated in an isolated
rerun. CI is the final clean-room result.

## Risks

- This is an intentional breaking change for clients that send
model-profile fields.
- The migration changes legacy agent, issue, and configuration-revision
JSON. It is idempotent and preserves unrelated fields and issue update
timestamps.
- The change is cross-cutting because the removed feature existed in
adapters, shared contracts, the server, plugins, and the UI.

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex with `gpt-5`. Reasoning and tool use were enabled. The
runtime did not expose the context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 141f202e40 Clean up experimental settings features (#12681)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app that people use to manage AI agents
for work.
> - Instance settings control optional product features and developer
tools.
> - The experimental settings page mixed active experiments, internal
tools, and old recovery controls.
> - Some workspace links also used the selected company instead of the
workspace owner.
> - These problems made settings hard to scan and could send users to
the wrong company route.
> - This pull request removes old controls, groups developer settings,
and resolves workspace links from workspace data.
> - The benefit is a smaller settings surface and correct workspace
navigation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

This improves the instance experimental settings page, task watchdog
controls, dependency wake recovery, and execution workspace routes.

**Current behavior**

The settings page shows old recovery controls and mixes product
experiments with internal developer settings. Task watchdogs require an
extra feature flag. Some direct workspace links use the current company
prefix instead of the company that owns the workspace.

**Proposed behavior**

Remove the old task recovery experiment and its unused API surface. Make
task watchdog controls available without the removed flag. Put worktree
execution and managed environment controls in the developer section.
Resolve direct workspace links from the workspace owner and reject a
company prefix that does not own the workspace.

**Reason and benefit**

The smaller settings page is easier to understand. The server keeps only
the dependency wake backstop that it still uses. Workspace links open
under the correct company route.

**Breaking changes**

This removes the experimental issue graph recovery preview and run
endpoints. It also removes the task watchdog feature flag. Task watchdog
data and dependency wake behavior remain available.

## What Changed

- Removed the old task watchdog and issue graph recovery feature flags.
- Removed the old issue graph recovery preview, run controls, API
contracts, and unused recovery implementation.
- Kept resolved dependency wakes as the scheduler backstop.
- Grouped product experiments and Paperclip developer settings on the
instance settings page.
- Made task watchdog controls available without an extra experimental
flag.
- Added owner-aware redirects and company checks for execution workspace
routes.
- Hid the false stopped-state badge while a workspace has no active
runtime state.
- Updated focused server and UI tests for the new behavior.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm -r typecheck`
- `pnpm build`
- `pnpm test:run` completed with 5,620 passing tests and four failures
in unchanged workspace runtime port tests. The same four failures repeat
when the two files run alone.
- The complete GitHub CI matrix passed, including all server, serialized
server, build, canary, and end-to-end jobs.

## Risks

- Clients that call the removed experimental recovery endpoints must
stop calling them.
- The route checks depend on workspace detail access. An unknown or
cross-company workspace returns the global not-found page.
- There are no database migrations, lockfile changes, workflow changes,
or design image changes.

Dotta 39206c0096 feat(ui): complete the task workspace (#12640)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The task page is the main place where people guide and review agent
work.
> - Native runner events already project into the existing task chat on
the lower stack.
> - The larger task workspace must support those events without breaking
direct adapters.
> - Legacy questions, final replies, empty transcripts, and classic
controls must keep their behavior.
> - This pull request completes the provider-neutral task workspace
experience.
> - The benefit is one coherent task surface for native and direct
execution paths.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #12639.
Refs #12617.
Refs #12352.

**Subsystem affected**

Task chat, task detail, side panels, interaction forms, and transcript
presentation.

**Problem or motivation**

The task page does not provide one complete workspace for live activity,
plans, questions, queued guidance, files, and documents. Earlier native
UI work also exposed compatibility risks in legacy question and reply
paths.

**Proposed solution**

Add the task workspace components and provider-neutral protocol
presentation. Keep runner-only controls behind runtime facts. Preserve
all direct-adapter composer, transcript, interaction, and finalization
behavior.

**Alternatives considered**

A separate runner page would duplicate task behavior. Replacing legacy
transcript logic would create unnecessary adapter regressions.

**Roadmap alignment**

This work supports the unified task experience and the Cloud and Sandbox
agents milestone.

## Stack

- Base PR: #12639.
- Lower PR: #12638.
- This PR contains only its 119-file UI delta against
`runner/remote-wss-transport`.
- The next stack PR adds administrator and observability controls.

## What Changed

- Added a reusable task workspace side panel for files and documents.
- Added provider-neutral cards for tools, plans, questions, protocol
activity, and progress.
- Added queued guidance and richer composer state.
- Added compact and expanded interaction presentation.
- Added live activity, thinking, usage, recovery, and final reply
presentation.
- Added document annotations and task deep links.
- Added bounded question validation and response handling.
- Preserved native runner event projection from master.
- Preserved legacy channel-less replies and explicit final reply
precedence.
- Preserved direct-adapter and classic-interface controls.
- Did not change server execution selection, Rust code, migrations,
workflows, or `pnpm-lock.yaml`.

## Verification

- GitHub Actions will run UI tests, repository tests, typecheck, build,
browser tests, security, and policy gates.
- Tests cover active, settled, empty-transcript, interaction,
queued-message, plan, question, file, document, and classic-interface
states.
- Compatibility tests cover direct adapters and native runner projection
together.
- Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses
GitHub Actions for this series.
- `git diff --check runner/remote-wss-transport...HEAD` passes.
- The delta contains 119 UI-only files.

## Risks

- This is a large task-page change.
- Most files are new focused components and tests.
- Shared transcript code keeps the lower native projection and legacy
direct-adapter fallbacks.
- Runner-only controls use adapter and runtime facts.
- No execution path or rollout flag changes in this PR.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. The work used high-reasoning agent mode,
repository tools, GitHub tools, and parallel code-audit agents.

Devin Foley 7b91fe9ea7 Hide host-path and execution-engine surfaces in managed-sandbox-only mode (#12293)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - An instance can turn on the `enableManagedSandboxOnly` feature,
which hides the local environment and runs every agent in the
platform-managed environment
> - That feature already gated the environment pickers, the onboarding
wizard, and the server-side run selection, but many other screens still
showed absolute paths on the execution host and still let the user pick
an execution engine
> - On such an instance those controls name a filesystem the user cannot
reach; a path written there is stored and then ignored, which reads as a
broken control
> - This pull request hides the remaining host-path and execution-engine
surfaces behind the same feature, adds a server rule that refuses a
project-workspace path write while the feature is on, and closes a
related route gap in the isolated-workspace pages
> - The benefit is that a managed instance shows no host path and no
folder picker anywhere, and a write that carries a path now fails with a
clear message instead of being silently discarded

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public issue exists. The description below follows
`.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/enhancement.yml`.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The `enableManagedSandboxOnly` instance feature, and the UI surfaces
that show
a host filesystem path: project properties, the new-project dialog, the
project
workspace and execution workspace detail pages, the workspace and task
cards,
plugin local folders, and the agent configuration form with its
per-adapter
fields. It also improves route gating for `enableIsolatedWorkspaces`.

**Subsystem affected**

Cross-cutting (`ui/` and `server/`).

**Current behavior**

When `enableManagedSandboxOnly` is on, the local environment disappears
from the
environment pickers and the server refuses to run an agent on the local
host.
Everything else stays visible. A user still sees:

- the project "Local folder" row, its absolute path, and the
Set/Change/Clear buttons
- the "Local folder" field and its "Choose" folder picker in the
new-project dialog
- the "Local path" field and fact row on a project workspace
- the "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands" groups on an execution workspace
- the working directory on workspace cards, task properties, and runtime
service rows
- the plugin "Local folders" section
- "Working directory (deprecated)", "Command", "Execution engine",
"ACP server command", "ACP state directory", and "Agent instructions
file" in
  the agent configuration form

A path typed into any of these names a filesystem no agent on the
instance uses.
The project workspace API also accepts a `cwd` write and stores it.

Separately, `/workspaces`, `/execution-workspaces/*`, and
`/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId` render for anyone who
types or
bookmarks the URL, even with `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off. Only the
sidebar
entry reads that flag.

**Proposed behavior**

With `enableManagedSandboxOnly` on, none of those surfaces render. A
project
whose codebase came from a managed checkout keeps its one-line
"Paperclip-managed folder." label and shows no path. The non-path
controls stay:
repo URL, branch, service URL, port, command output, ACP session mode,
ACP
non-interactive permissions, Codex fast mode, and the sandbox toggles.

The project-workspace create and patch routes, and the nested workspace
on
project create, answer `422` with
"This instance runs agents only in the platform-managed environment;
local
folders are not configurable." when the payload carries a non-null
`cwd`.
A `cwd: null` write still passes, so an instance that just turned the
feature on
can clear a stale path.

With `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off, the three workspace route groups
redirect to
the dashboard.

**Reason and benefit**

A control that cannot do anything is worse than a missing control: the
user fills
it in, saves, and gets no error and no effect. The server rule turns
that silent
no-op into a clear refusal. The route gate stops a feature that an
instance has
turned off from staying reachable by URL, which is the same standard the
Cases,
Pipelines, and hidden-settings pages already meet.

**Breaking changes**

None for a default instance: both flags are off by default for
self-hosted and
managed instances, so nothing changes unless an operator turns them on.
Stored
`adapterConfig` values are never cleared, so turning the feature off
restores
every previous value.

## What Changed

- Add `ui/src/hooks/useManagedSandboxOnly.ts`, modelled on
`useAppsEnabled`, for
components that do not already read the experimental settings. It
exposes
`hideHostPaths`, which fails closed while the settings query is in
flight, so
a cold cache never flashes a host path before the policy resolves.
Components
that keep their own settings read compute the same gate from
`isFetched`.
- Add `managedSandboxOnly` to `AdapterConfigFieldsProps` and populate it
where
`AgentConfigForm` builds the adapter field props. Resolve the effective
instructions-file gate once as `hideInstructionsFile || hideHostPaths`,
so
every adapter hides that path field with no per-adapter edit.
- Hide under the flag: the project "Local folder" block and its
absolute-path
edit panel (a managed checkout keeps its label, without the path); the
new-project "Local folder" field; the project-workspace "Local path"
field and
fact row; the execution-workspace "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands"
groups; the
working directory on the workspace summary card, the task workspace
card, the
task properties "Folder" row, and the runtime service rows; the plugin
"Local
folders" section; "Working directory (deprecated)" and "Command" in the
agent
form; and the per-adapter "Execution engine", "ACP server command", and
"ACP state directory" for `claude_local`, `codex_local`, and
`gemini_local`.
- Drop two working-directory fallbacks that had no gate to read: the
close-workspace
dialog now falls back to "No additional details", and the reuse-existing
workspace label and picker subtitle fall back to a neutral phrase.
- Refuse a non-null `cwd` with `422` on `POST /projects/:id/workspaces`,
`PATCH /projects/:id/workspaces/:workspaceId`, and the nested workspace
on
  `POST /companies/:companyId/projects`, following the
  `assertNoAgentHostWorkspaceCommandMutation` precedent on those routes.
- Add `IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate` and wrap the `/workspaces`,
`/execution-workspaces/*`, and
`/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId`
  routes with it.
- Leave the SSH "Remote workspace path" and the workspace file browser
alone,
  with a comment explaining why.

## Verification

Automated:

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` — 479 of 480 files
pass
(4455 of 4456 tests). The one failure is `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx >
renders
instead of throwing when the browser denies storage access`, which also
fails
on `origin/master` and is unrelated to this change.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run project workspace
instance-settings`
— 45 of 50 files pass. Four files fail on macOS for reasons unrelated to
this
  change: `workspace-instance-cleanup`, `workspace-runtime`,
  `execution-workspace-runtime-control-conflict`, and
`workspace-runtime-exposure` compare `/var/...` against the resolved
`/private/var/...` or bind real ports. The same files fail on a clean
`master`
  checkout on the same machine.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`
- `tsc --noEmit` in `server/` (after
`pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk ensure-build-deps`). The package
`typecheck` script also builds the Rust runner, which needs `cargo`; it
is not
installed on the machine that ran this.

New and extended tests:

- `ui/src/adapters/managed-sandbox-only-config-fields.test.tsx` — the
three
adapters drop the execution engine, the ACP paths, the instructions-file
path,
and every "Choose" button when the flag is on, and keep the non-path
controls.
- `ui/src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx` — flag-on and
flag-off
renders for the working directory, the command, the engine, the ACP
paths, and
  the resolved adapter field props.
- `ui/src/components/ProjectProperties.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`,
  `ui/src/components/NewProjectDialog.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`,
  `ui/src/pages/ProjectWorkspaceDetail.test.tsx`,
  `ui/src/components/ProjectWorkspaceSummaryCard.test.tsx`,
  `ui/src/components/WorkspaceRuntimeControls.test.tsx`.
- `ui/src/components/IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate.test.tsx` — redirect
when off,
render when on, and render nothing while the flag query is in flight.
- "Still loading" cases for the project properties, the new-project
dialog, the
workspace summary card, the runtime service rows, and the agent
configuration
form, each asserting that no host path renders before the policy
resolves.
-
`server/src/__tests__/project-workspace-managed-sandbox-routes.test.ts`
— the
`422` on all three write paths, the `cwd: null` pass-through, and the
  flag-off pass-through.

experimental settings, then open a project, the new-project dialog, an
agent's
configuration, and a workspace page. No path, folder icon, or "Choose"
button
appears. Turn the setting off and each control returns with its stored
value.

No documentation change was needed. The operator-facing text for both
settings
lives in the feature catalog entry, which already states the contract
this pull
request now enforces across the UI.

## Risks

- Low. Both flags default to off, so a default instance is unchanged.
- The hidden fields are presentation only. No stored `adapterConfig`
value is
cleared, because an import carries adapter configuration written on
another
instance and clearing it would break that flow. Turning the setting off
shows
  every previous value again.
- The `422` is the one behavior change for an API caller, and only while
the
setting is on. `cwd: null` still passes so a stale path can be cleared.
- The route gate renders nothing until the flag query settles, so an
instance
with isolated workspaces on never flashes a redirect. An instance with
the
feature off now redirects a bookmarked workspace URL to the dashboard.
- Every host-path guard fails closed while the settings query is in
flight, so a
default instance shows those controls a moment later than before on a
cold
load. That is the safe direction: the alternative flashes a path a
managed
  instance must never show.
- Two path surfaces stay on purpose, each with a comment: the SSH
"Remote
workspace path" is a path on the user's own remote host, and the
workspace file
browser shows workspace-relative paths. The instance Adapters page also
keeps
its "Local path" install option, since that page is an instance-admin
surface
the hosting operator can already hide through the hidden-settings
mechanism.

DottaandClaude Opus 5 8ee1fb21a6 feat(ui): badge the review policy when it constrains approval (#10938)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Agents move their work into review, and a reviewer must then give a
verdict on it
> - By default anyone with write access can give that verdict, including
the agent that did the work
> - The server can constrain that default per issue with a
`reviewPolicy` column, but no screen showed the value
> - A reviewer could therefore press Approve on a review that the server
refuses, and get a 403
> - This pull request shows the policy as a badge on the two surfaces
where a person gives a verdict
> - It also makes an agent verdict read as a verdict in the activity
timeline
> - The benefit is that a reviewer sees who can approve before they try

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The description below
follows
`.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/enhancement.yml`.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The issue review flow. A reviewer cannot see the approval constraint on
an issue
before they give a verdict.

**Subsystem affected**

Web UI (`ui/`), with one supporting change in the server attention
service.

**Current behavior**

The server stores an optional approval constraint for each issue in a
`reviewPolicy` column. The column has three meaningful states: the
default
(`NULL` or `anyone`), `not_creator`, and `human_only`. The server
enforces the
constraint when it receives a verdict.

No screen shows the value. Two problems follow:

1. A reviewer presses Approve on a review that the server refuses. The
server
answers 403, and the reason is not visible on the card.
2. An agent that accepts or rejects a review renders in the activity
timeline as
the raw action id, for example "issue thread interaction accepted". A
person
who reads the timeline cannot tell that a verdict was given.

**Proposed behavior**

Show the constraint as a read-only badge on the two surfaces where a
person
gives a verdict. Show no pixels for the default state, because the
default is
what every issue already does. Make an agent verdict read as a verdict
in the
timeline.

Only agents set the column today, so this change adds no control to set
it.

**Reason and benefit**

A reviewer sees the constraint before they act. This prevents the 403,
and it
removes the need to explain the 403 afterwards. The timeline also
becomes
complete, because it now shows agent verdicts and human verdicts in the
same way.

**Breaking changes**

None. The change adds a badge and changes copy. It adds no column, no
endpoint,
and no request.

**Additional context**

The server-side column and the verdict enforcement landed earlier in
#10931.
This pull request is the user interface for that column. The default
state stays
unchanged on screen, so the badge appears on a small number of issues.

## What Changed

- **A read-only "Approvals" row** in the issue Execution properties. The
row
renders *only* for a constrained policy: "Anyone else" (`not_creator`)
or
"Human only" (`human_only`). A `NULL` or `anyone` column adds no row, so
the
panel is untouched on the overwhelming majority of issues.
- **The same badge on the stalled-review card** in `/decisions`, above
the three
review verbs. A reviewer now sees the constraint before they press
Approve.
The condition is the same, so the default card is unchanged.
- **Agent verdicts read as verdicts in the activity timeline.** An agent
that
accepted or rejected a review request previously rendered the raw action
id
("issue thread interaction accepted"). It now reads "approved the
request". A
stalled-review decision names the verb that the actor chose.
- **A cleared policy reports as "anyone", not "none",** in the
field-change
receipt. The `reviewPolicy` column is nullable by default, so an absent
value
is a real setting rather than a missing one.
- **All copy comes from `ui/src/lib/review-policy.ts`.** Its badge
lookup returns
`null` for the default. This makes "no pixels for the default" one
enforced
decision instead of a condition repeated at each call site. It also
keeps the
badge, the activity line, and the receipt reading alike.
- **The server attention service carries the policy** on the review
attention
subject, so the stalled-review card can read it.

## Verification

Automated tests:

- `ui/src/lib/review-policy.test.ts` — the default returns no badge,
however the
column spells it (`null`, `undefined`, `"anyone"`). An unrecognised
policy from
the wire shows nothing rather than leaking an enum value.
- `ui/src/components/AttentionQueueRow.test.tsx` — no badge on the
default card,
and the verbs still render. Suppression of the badge must not suppress
the card.
- `ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — no Approvals row on the
default.
The constrained row contains no `button`, so nothing there can PATCH.
- `server/src/__tests__/attention-service.test.ts` — the review
attention subject
carries the policy, and subjects built from narrower selects do not
claim one.

Run them with:

```sh
pnpm vitest run ui/src/lib/review-policy.test.ts \
  ui/src/components/AttentionQueueRow.test.tsx \
  ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx \
  server/src/__tests__/attention-service.test.ts
```

Manual steps:

1. Open an issue that has no `reviewPolicy`. Confirm that the Execution
properties panel shows no Approvals row.
2. Set the column to `not_creator`. Reload the issue. Confirm that the
Approvals
row reads "Anyone else", and that the row has no control.
3. Move that issue into review. Open `/decisions`. Confirm that the
stalled
review card shows the same badge above the review verbs.
4. Let an agent approve the review. Confirm that the activity timeline
reads
"approved the request" and not "issue thread interaction accepted".

Screenshots were captured at 1440x900 and 390x844, in light mode and
dark mode,
with the three policy states side by side. The leftmost column in each
capture is
the default. It carries no badge and no extra row.

## Risks

Low risk.

- The change is additive on screen. Every new surface is behind a
constrained
policy, so the default path renders exactly as before.
- The badge is read-only. It has no control and sends no request, and a
test
asserts that the row contains no `button`.
- An unknown policy value from the wire renders nothing. It does not
render the
  raw enum.
- No migration, no schema change, and no endpoint change.

scotttongandPaperclip eabecc6f77 feat(annotations): include issue document annotations in agent review context (#11332)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Reviewers annotate plans and issue documents with inline comments,
and assigned agents act on that feedback
> - The server already builds a bounded review context from open plan
annotations and includes it in agent wake payloads
> - Non-plan issue documents did not get the same treatment: their open
annotation threads never reached the agent, and the properties pane did
not surface their annotations
> - This pull request extends the review-context path and the
properties-pane UI to issue documents, at parity with plans
> - The benefit is that agent feedback on any issue document reaches the
assigned agent, not only feedback on the plan

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The review-context pipeline that delivers inline annotation feedback to
assigned agents, and the properties pane that surfaces those annotations
to reviewers.

**Subsystem affected**

The server review-context path
(`server/src/services/plan-review-context.ts`, wake payload assembly in
`server/src/services/heartbeat.ts`, `server/src/routes/issues.ts`),
shared wake-payload types (`packages/shared`, `packages/adapter-utils`),
and the issue properties pane (`ui/src/components/issue-properties/`).

**Current behavior**

A reviewer can annotate any issue document, not only the plan. The agent
wake payload includes open annotation threads for the plan document
only. Feedback left on other issue documents is invisible to the
assigned agent. In the properties pane, the Artifacts tab also gives no
way to see or open a document's annotations.

**Proposed behavior**

Add `buildDocumentReviewContext` beside the existing plan builder. It
collects open annotation threads for all non-plan issue documents,
applies the same thread, comment, and character budgets across
documents, and reports truncation. Include the result as a new
`documentReviewContext` field in agent wake payloads and in the issue
wake-context route. Keep the plan context on its legacy builder and
field so plan-only wakes stay byte-for-byte compatible. Render the new
context in the adapter wake-payload text, and surface annotation counts
and the annotation panel for documents in the properties pane's Plans
and Artifacts tabs.

**Reason and benefit**

The floating annotation popover and persistent highlight UI landed
earlier; this change completes the loop so agent feedback on any issue
document reaches the assigned agent, not only feedback on the plan.

**Breaking changes**

None. The wake payload gains a new optional `documentReviewContext`
field; the existing plan context field and its legacy builder are
unchanged, so plan-only wakes stay byte-for-byte compatible.

## What Changed

- Add `buildDocumentReviewContext` in
`server/src/services/plan-review-context.ts`: bounded review context
(shared thread/comment/character budgets, per-document legacy limits)
over all non-plan issue documents
- Include `documentReviewContext` in agent wake payloads
(`server/src/services/heartbeat.ts`) and in the issue wake-context
response (`server/src/routes/issues.ts`)
- Add shared `DocumentReviewContext` / `DocumentReviewContextDocument`
types in `packages/shared`
- Normalize and render the new context in adapter wake-payload text
(`packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.ts`), with tests
- Show a `DocumentAnnotationsCountChip` and the annotation panel for
documents in the properties pane Plans and Artifacts tabs, with tests
- Extend server document-annotations service tests to cover the new
context builder

## Verification

- Run `npx vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/document-annotations-service.test.ts` from the repo
root — 104 tests pass
- Run `TZ=UTC npx vitest run
ui/src/components/issue-properties/IssuePropertiesDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx
ui/src/components/DocumentAnnotationPopover.test.tsx` from the repo root
— 75 tests pass (one pre-existing monitor-row case asserts UTC
timestamps, so use `TZ=UTC` locally; CI runs in UTC)
- `pnpm run typecheck` in `server/` passes
- Manual: annotate a non-plan issue document, then wake the assigned
agent with a comment — the wake payload lists the open document
annotation threads; the Artifacts tab shows the annotation count chip
and opens the panel

## Risks

- The wake payload gains a new optional `documentReviewContext` field;
consumers that ignore unknown fields are unaffected, and the plan
context field is unchanged
- The context is new input to agent wakes; shared budgets (same limits
as the plan context) bound token cost across all documents
- Low UI risk: the properties-pane changes reuse the existing annotation
components

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 031003c5e1 fix(ui): search parent-issue picker on the server (#11334)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The board UI lets an operator choose a parent issue for an issue
> - The parent picker loads a priority-first page and filters that page
in the browser
> - A medium-priority or low-priority issue past the page limit never
enters the picker
> - This pull request sends typed parent-picker text to the server and
keeps the picker exclusions
> - The benefit is that the operator can select valid parent issues
beyond the default page

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

This pull request supersedes
[#6193](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/6193), whose old
file path no longer matches the current component tree.

**What happened?**

The parent picker fetched one default issue page and filtered it in the
browser. The default page sorts by priority and caps the result at 500
issues. Valid medium-priority and low-priority parent issues beyond that
page stayed hidden.

**Expected behavior**

The parent picker must search the server when the operator types text.
It must show matching issues beyond the default page while it keeps the
current issue and descendant exclusions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open an issue in a company with more than 500 issues.
2. Open the parent picker and type the name of a medium-priority or
low-priority issue beyond the default page.
3. Observe that the picker does not show the matching issue.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Commit `c6965bd0237fd9536b41f1495e2a4bb252afcde7`.

**Deployment mode**

Local dev (`pnpm dev`).

## What Changed

- Send parent-picker searches to the issue list endpoint with `q` and a
bounded `limit` of 50.
- Keep the empty-search list, cycle exclusions, and current sort
behavior.
- Add a component test for a low-priority match hidden by the default
page.

## Verification

- Run `pnpm vitest run ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx`.
- Confirm that all 53 tests pass.
- Confirm that the new test checks `{ q, limit: 50 }` and the matching
issue.

## Risks

- Low risk. The change affects only parent-picker search requests.
- The server search uses the existing issue list query and does not
change stored data.

## Model Used

Codex, GPT-5, with tool use and code execution. The model assisted with
the change and test.

0ee0543e5b feat(ui): refine the chat-style task workflow (#11263)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The issue detail view is the main place where people read work and
guide agents.
> - The chat-style task view needs clear messages, controls, properties,
and document feedback.
> - Dense metadata and disconnected controls make active work harder to
scan.
> - This pull request refines the existing chat-style task workflow
across desktop and mobile layouts.
> - The benefit is a clearer issue thread with faster access to the
controls that guide work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The change improves the chat-style issue detail view that was introduced
in [#10606](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/10606) and
expanded in
[#10707](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/10707).

**Current behavior**

The issue thread spreads task controls across the page. Agent-turn
metadata competes with the message content. Document annotation comments
use inline placement that limits the document reading area. The mobile
composer can overlap the bottom navigation.

**Proposed behavior**

The issue view keeps the thread focused on message content. It moves
supporting controls into the properties area, adds searchable
assignment, restores the sub-task tree, docks document comments in a
side gutter, and keeps the mobile composer clear of navigation.

**Reason and benefit**

People can scan active work faster and find task controls without
leaving the issue. The layout also gives documents and mobile
conversations more usable space.

**Breaking changes**

None. The change updates presentation and interaction behavior in the
existing issue UI.

## What Changed

- Refined task-chat message spacing, metadata, agent bubbles, and
composer alignment.
- Added searchable assignment and restored sub-task navigation in the
properties pane.
- Moved document annotation comments into a right-side gutter.
- Kept the mobile composer above the auto-hiding bottom navigation.
- Added and updated focused component tests for the changed
interactions.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `TZ=UTC pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/InlineEntitySelector.test.tsx
src/components/IssueDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
src/components/TaskChatThread.test.tsx src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx`
- The token gates report 3/3 clean.
- The focused test run passes 124 tests in 5 files.
- Visual snapshot baselines were not updated. This follows the
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot verification
demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)."

## Risks

- The changes affect several related issue-detail layouts. A browser
review should cover desktop and mobile widths before merge.
- The monitor-row test formats time in the host timezone. The
verification command sets `TZ=UTC` to match CI.

this environment. The model used reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and GitHub tools.

DottaandPaperclip 1a377424db fix(ui): add mobile blocker actions (#11282)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Operators use task properties to inspect and change task
relationships.
> - A blocked-by chip linked directly to the blocking task.
> - Its remove control appeared only on hover, so touch users could not
reach it.
> - This pull request opens a small action menu when a user taps the
chip on mobile.
> - The menu lets the user visit the task or start the existing
blocker-removal confirmation.
> - The benefit is that touch users can manage blockers without changing
the fast desktop flow.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

On a phone-width layout, a tap on a blocked-by chip opened the blocking
task immediately. The remove control appeared only on hover, so a touch
user could not remove the blocker.

**Expected behavior**

A tap on a blocked-by chip on mobile opens a menu. The menu offers
`Visit task` and `Remove blocker` actions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open a task that has a blocker.
2. Use a viewport below the mobile breakpoint.
3. Open the task properties.
4. Tap the blocked-by chip.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Reproduced on `e5a7fd7038` from `master`.

**Deployment mode**

Built from source with the local development workflow.

## What Changed

- Added a mobile-only action menu to blocked-by chips.
- Kept the direct task link and hover/focus remove control on desktop.
- Reused the existing removal confirmation before the relation update.
- Added focused regression coverage for the mobile visit and remove
choices.
- Added a phone-width Storybook state with the action menu open.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm build-storybook`
- Opened the new Storybook state in Playwright Chromium with a Pixel 5
viewport. Confirmed that both actions are visible and fit in the
viewport.

## Risks

- Low risk. The behavior change is limited to the existing mobile
breakpoint.
- Desktop navigation and blocker removal keep their current behavior.
- The menu uses the shared dropdown and dialog primitives.

> For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and
discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap

- OpenAI Codex `gpt-5.6-sol`, xhigh reasoning. The Codex CLI managed the
context window for this run. The model used repository tools, code

scotttongandClaude Fable 5 5bb2490b86 feat(ui): surface all issue documents and agent artifacts in chat-style sidebar (#11226)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The task detail page uses a chat-style thread with a right sidebar;
the sidebar has a Plan tab and an Artifacts tab (#11101 made this UI the
default)
> - The Plan tab only showed the one issue document named `plan`, and
the Artifacts tab only listed formal work products; other agent-authored
documents (for example a `synthesis` doc) and agent-attached files were
invisible in the sidebar
> - Users could see an agent mention a document in the thread but had no
way to find that document in the sidebar, which breaks trust in the task
view as the record of the work
> - This pull request surfaces every non-system issue document in the
Plan tab, composes the Artifacts tab from work products, documents, and
agent-created attachments, and gives thread images a full-screen
lightbox with download
> - The benefit is that anything an agent produces on a task is now
reachable from the sidebar, while user uploads stay with their comments
in the thread

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11101 (chat-style task UI default — this PR extends its sidebar).

**Subsystem affected**

Task detail UI (chat-style thread sidebar): Plan tab, Artifacts tab, and
thread attachment rendering in `ui/src`.

**Current behavior**

The Plan tab renders only the issue document literally named `plan`. The
Artifacts tab renders only formal work products. Agent-authored
documents with any other name, and files agents attach to comments, do
not appear anywhere in the sidebar. Thread images open as bare links.

**Proposed behavior**

The Plan tab lists every non-system issue document, with the `plan`
document first and the others rendered inline below it. The Artifacts
tab composes three sources — work products, issue documents, and
agent-created comment attachments — deduplicated against
attachment-backed work products via `metadata.attachmentId`, and shows
whenever any source is non-empty. Work-product rows without a resolvable
attachment or document fall back to links found in their metadata so
they stay clickable. Images in the thread open a shared full-screen
lightbox with a download action. Files uploaded by users stay
thread-only and are not mixed into the Artifacts tab.

**Reason and benefit**

Agents routinely produce documents that are not named `plan` and attach
files to their comments. Users reading the thread must be able to find
every one of those outputs from the sidebar. Redundant surfacing is
acceptable; an unfindable document is not.

**Breaking changes**

None. This is additive rendering; no schema or API changes.

## What Changed

- `IssuePropertiesPlansTab.tsx`: renders all non-system issue documents,
`plan` primary, others inline below via `MarkdownBody`
- `IssuePropertiesArtifactsTab.tsx`: composes work products + documents
+ agent-created attachments with dedupe; rows without an
attachment/document target fall back to `metadata` links
- `IssueProperties.tsx`: Artifacts tab visibility now derives from the
composed source set
- New `ui/src/lib/issue-artifacts.ts`: pure composition/dedupe logic,
unit-tested
- New `ui/src/components/task-chat/task-chat-attachments.ts`: splits
agent vs user comment attachments, unit-tested
- `TaskChatBubble.tsx`: thread images open the shared full-screen
lightbox with download
- `useIssueDocuments.ts`: hook now exposes the full issue-document list

## Verification

- `pnpm typecheck` — passes across the workspace
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 CLEAN
- `cd ui && pnpm vitest run src/lib/issue-artifacts.test.ts
src/components/task-chat/task-chat-attachments.test.ts
src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx` — 74 tests pass
- Manual: open a task whose agent created a document not named `plan`
(for example `synthesis`); confirm it appears in the Plan tab below the
plan and in the Artifacts tab; confirm an image the agent attached
appears under Artifacts; confirm a user-uploaded image stays only in the
thread and opens full screen with a download button

Snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated for this visual change,
per the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot
verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)".

## Risks

- Low risk: rendering-only change scoped to the task sidebar and thread
bubbles; composition logic is pure and unit-tested
- Dedupe relies on `metadata.attachmentId` linkage; a work product with
malformed metadata would render as a duplicate row (cosmetic only)

d84c5eae7a feat(ui): hide task priority from the UI (keep data model) (#11024)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Tasks and issues carry a `priority` field that renders across many
product surfaces: the detail header, the Triage properties panel, Kanban
and thread cards, the New Task composer, list Sort/Group/Filter menus,
search filters, and the dashboard chart.
> - Product feedback found the priority level adds visual noise and
decision cost without clear value in day-to-day task flow.
> - We want to remove priority from the interface, but keep the data
model, API, validation, and search DSL fully intact so the choice is
reversible with no migration.
> - This pull request hides every priority indicator and control behind
one compile-time flag, `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI`, set to `false`.
> - The benefit is a calmer, simpler UI now, with a single-boolean
revive path and zero data loss.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

<!-- No public GitHub issue exists. Describing in-PR per the feature
template. -->

**Subsystem affected**
The web UI (`ui/src`): issue detail, properties panel, Kanban/thread
cards, New Task dialog, issues list Sort/Group/Filter menus, search
filter bar/sheet, dashboard charts, and the design-guide showcase.

**Problem or motivation**
The task/issue priority level appears across many surfaces and adds
visual clutter and decision overhead without pulling its weight in
normal task flow. We want it gone from the interface without discarding
the underlying data or breaking anything that depends on it.

**Proposed solution**
Add a single compile-time UI flag, `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI` (default
`false`), and gate every priority indicator and control behind it. Leave
the data model, API params, Zod validation (including the `"medium"`
default), and the search filter DSL untouched. Reviving priority is a
one-line flip of the flag back to `true`.

**Alternatives considered**
Deleting the priority code and schema outright. Rejected: it is
irreversible, needs a data migration, and throws away a field the API
and search still support. A gated flag keeps the change reversible and
low risk.

**Roadmap alignment**
UI simplification. This is a presentation-only change; it does not alter
core agent or data behavior.

## What Changed

- Added `ui/src/lib/ui-flags.ts` exporting `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI:
boolean = false` (typed `boolean` so gated branches are not flagged as
dead code).
- Gated the priority row in the Triage properties panel and the editable
priority control in the issue detail header (plus its skeleton seed).
- Gated the per-card priority icon in `KanbanBoard` and in
`IssueThreadInteractionCard`.
- Hid the priority chip and the mobile "more" menu priority section in
the New Task dialog. The submit path still sends the `"medium"` default.
- Removed the Priority options from the issues list Sort and Group-by
menus; the comparator and grouping logic stay dormant.
- Hid the Priority sections in the issue filters popover and in the
search filter bar and sheet. The `priority:` search DSL and filter state
stay functional at the data layer.
- Suppressed active-filter priority pills for consistency.
- Gated the "Tasks by Priority" dashboard chart and the design-guide
priority showcase subsection.
- Left activity-feed "changed priority" history text intact as a
historical record.
- Updated call-site tests to assert priority UI is absent while the flag
is off, added focused hidden-surface tests, and added a test that proves
creating a task still persists `priority: "medium"`.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` — all 3 gates clean.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — clean.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` on the touched
surfaces (IssueProperties, IssueFiltersPopover, IssuesList,
NewIssueDialog, IssueDetail, PriorityIcon and its interaction test) —
all green under `TZ=UTC`.
- Manual: with the flag off, priority does not appear in the detail
header, Triage panel, New Task composer, Sort/Group/Filter menus, or the
dashboard chart. Creating a task still persists `priority: "medium"`,
and the `priority:` search token still filters at the data layer.

## Risks

Low risk. The change is presentation-only and additive: no data model,
API, validation, or search-DSL changes. The priority code paths remain
compiled and tested; flipping `SHOW_TASK_PRIORITY_UI` to `true` restores
the full UI. Visual snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated per
the `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` entry "Per-change snapshot
verification demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)".

scotttongandClaude Opus 4.8 f950952de7 fix: reliably show plans in the Plan pane and restore sticky plan confirmation CTAs (#10930)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Chat-style tasks show an agent's plan in a dedicated "Plan" pane,
and a plan confirmation lets the user accept or request changes to that
plan
> - When an agent asked for confirmation but never actually published
the plan document (it only wrote the plan in a comment or a question),
the Plan pane rendered empty, and the confirmation call-to-action that
used to sit pinned at the bottom of the pane had disappeared
> - A user asked to confirm a plan they cannot see, with no visible CTA,
is stuck — the feature silently fails
> - This pull request closes the gap on both sides: it prevents plan
confirmations that don't point at a real, latest plan revision, it
teaches agents to publish the plan document before confirming, and it
restores the sticky confirmation action bar and an explanatory empty
state so the pane never goes silently blank
> - The benefit is that when a plan is expected, it reliably shows up in
the right pane with reachable accept/revise actions

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

<!-- No public GitHub issue exists; describing in-PR per the bug
template. -->

**Bug report**

- **What happened:** A task in planning mode could present a plan
confirmation while the Plan pane stayed empty (no plan document
rendered), and the plan-card confirmation CTAs that were previously
pinned to the bottom of the Plan pane no longer appeared.
- **Expected behavior:** When a plan is expected, the plan document
appears in the Plan pane; when a plan is genuinely missing, the pane
explains why rather than showing nothing; and the accept/request-changes
CTAs stay visible and reachable while the plan scrolls.
- **Steps to reproduce:** Put a task in planning mode with the
chat-style task view enabled, have an agent create a plan confirmation
without first publishing the `plan` document, and open the Plan tab —
the pane is blank and the confirmation actions are missing.
- **Deployment mode:** Local dev and self-hosted; UI + server.

Related PR (not a duplicate): #9609 "Pin pending confirmations by
composer" pins confirmations in a different surface (the composer); this
PR restores the Plans-pane action bar and the server/agent guarantees
behind it.

## What Changed

- **Server:** Reject a `request_confirmation` whose target is a plan
document unless a plan document exists and the target points at its
*latest* revision, so a confirmation can never reference a plan the pane
cannot render (`readPlanTarget` is now exported for reuse).
- **Agent instructions:** The CEO and default agent instruction bundles
now spell out a plan-publish contract — publish the `plan` document,
re-`GET` it and capture `latestRevisionId`, then create the confirmation
targeting that revision; never present a plan only in a thread comment
or via `ask_user_questions`.
- **UI — sticky CTAs:** Restore the plan confirmation action bar pinned
to the bottom of the Plans tab so accept/revise stay reachable while the
plan scrolls.
- **UI — diagnostics:** Keep the Plan tab visible whenever an issue is
in planning mode (even before a plan document exists) and show an empty
state explaining why the pane is empty instead of rendering nothing.
- **UI — annotations:** Add a `panelPlacement="inline"` mode so the
plan-document annotation panel renders in document flow instead of as a
floating side panel when hosted in the narrow task properties pane.

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` → 3/3 CLEAN
- `pnpm typecheck` → clean (all packages)
- UI: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/issue-properties/IssuePlanConfirmationActionBar.test.tsx
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
src/components/IssueDocumentAnnotations.test.tsx` → 69 passed
- Server: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/issue-thread-interaction-routes.test.ts
src/__tests__/agent-skills-routes.test.ts` → 60 passed
- Manual: with a planning-mode task, the Plan tab stays visible, shows
the plan document (or a diagnostic empty state), and the confirmation
CTAs stay pinned at the bottom.

Visual note: snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated — per
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` "Per-change snapshot verification demoted
to dormant (Jul 13 2026)". The `storybook-visual` label is intentionally
not added.

## Risks

Low-to-moderate. The server change adds a validation gate on
plan-document confirmations: an interaction that targets a stale or
nonexistent plan revision is now rejected with a 422 instead of being
created. This is the intended guarantee, but any caller that relied on
creating such confirmations will now need to publish the plan document
first (which the updated agent instructions cover). UI changes are
additive to the Plans tab and gated by the existing chat-style-task
experimental flag.

DottaandPaperclip 1fa36be353 fix(ui): use HTTP-safe clipboard copy everywhere (#10875)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Operators often open self-hosted Paperclip over plain HTTP on a LAN
or private network.
> - Browser Clipboard API writes are not reliable in that insecure
context.
> - Paperclip already has one shared helper with a legacy copy fallback,
but many current copy actions bypass it.
> - This pull request routes every core UI copy action and the
first-party workspace-diff plugin through the shared helper.
> - The benefit is consistent copy behavior on HTTPS, localhost, and
plain-HTTP private deployments.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #3529.

This change supersedes the stale prior attempt in #3531. Current master
has more copy surfaces and a first-party plugin UI bridge that the prior
branch does not cover.

## What Changed

- Replaced direct Clipboard API writes and duplicate fallback
implementations across the current core UI with `copyTextToClipboard`.
- Added an HTTP-safe clipboard function to the plugin UI SDK and wired
the host bridge to the same implementation.
- Migrated the first-party workspace-diff plugin to the plugin SDK
clipboard function.
- Added unit coverage for native rejection fallback and plugin host
delegation.
- Added a source-level regression test that rejects new direct clipboard
writes outside the shared implementation.
- Documented the plugin UI clipboard function.

## Verification

- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ...` for 14 affected suites: 164
tests passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run tests/ui-clipboard.test.ts` in
`packages/plugins/sdk`: 1 test passed.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r typecheck`: passed for 31 workspace projects.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm test:run`: passed.
- `NODE_ENV=production pnpm build`: passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed with all gates clean.

## Risks

Low risk. Secure contexts still use the modern Clipboard API. Plain HTTP
and rejected modern writes use the existing `execCommand("copy")`
fallback. That API is deprecated, but it is the compatibility path
required for insecure contexts. The change has no schema, API, or visual
design effect.

OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`. The runtime did not expose a context-window
size. Reasoning, tool use, repository editing, test execution, and
GitHub CLI access were enabled.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 185515c97b fix(external-objects): refresh PR status labels (#10704)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The issue properties panel can show external objects such as GitHub
pull requests.
> - Those objects are resolved by external-object providers and then
displayed as compact status labels.
> - A GitHub pull request could remain in the fallback `unknown` state
and appear as `Not yet resolved`.
> - That label is confusing when the object is known but has not been
refreshed yet.
> - This pull request refreshes due external objects from the heartbeat
scheduler and improves the unknown-status copy.
> - The benefit is a properties panel that moves from pending refresh to
the real pull request state without a manual refresh.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this bug. I searched for related
public issues and pull requests using the terms `Not yet refreshed`,
`external objects refresh`, and `external PR status`, and did not find a
duplicate implementation.

**What happened?**

The issue properties panel could show a GitHub pull request as `Not yet
resolved` even when the referenced pull request was valid. The object
stayed stale unless a manual refresh path ran.

**Expected behavior**

A known external object should show pending-refresh copy while it waits
for provider data. When the scheduler refreshes it, the properties panel
should show the provider status such as open, merged, or closed.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Create or view an issue that references a GitHub pull request.
2. Open the issue properties panel.
3. Observe the external object row before a manual refresh has run.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Current `master` before this pull request.

**Deployment mode**

Local dev and self-hosted server.

**Installation method**

Built from source.

**Agent adapter(s) involved**

Not adapter-specific.

**Database mode**

Not database-related.

**Access context**

Board view.

**Privacy checklist**

I reviewed this description and did not include logs, credentials,
private URLs, internal issue IDs, or PII.

## What Changed

- Added a heartbeat scheduler tick that refreshes due external objects
for active companies.
- Kept manual external-object refresh behavior on the same service path.
- Changed display copy so known provider objects use liveness labels
such as `Not yet refreshed`, while fresh unknown provider statuses show
`Status unavailable`.
- Added server and UI tests for scheduled refresh and label behavior.

## Verification

- `corepack pnpm install --frozen-lockfile`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/external-objects-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts
ui/src/components/ExternalObjectPill.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
ui/src/lib/external-objects.test.ts`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server build`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build`

- `pnpm run typecheck:build-gaps`
- GitHub PR checks passed on head `0e7fcd30`
- Greptile reported 5/5 on head `0e7fcd30` with no unresolved review
threads

Notes:

- I ran recursive typecheck and build first. Both hit container resource
limits with exit 137 during concurrent package work, so I reran the
affected server and UI targets separately.
- An unrelated workspace-runtime auto-port test fails in this container
with a PID ownership mismatch. It is outside the files changed here.

## Risks

Low to medium risk.

The scheduler does more periodic external-object work, so the main risk
is extra provider refresh load. The implementation bounds the work to
active companies, due non-terminal objects, and 50 objects per company
per tick. The path also stays behind the external-objects experimental
setting.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex in the Codex execution environment, with shell and
GitHub CLI tool use. The runtime did not expose a more specific internal
model ID or context window.

> - The current page reads as a ticket form. The thread sits below
properties, the composer sits mid-page, and live agent activity renders
as dense transcript logs.
> - Talking to an agent is a conversation. A chat-first layout matches
that mental model better than a ticket form.
> - A layout change this large must not disrupt current users. It needs
a safe opt-in path and full parity with the existing thread features.
> - This pull request adds a chat-style task view behind a new
"Chat-Style Tasks" experiment toggle. The flag is off by default and the
existing page is unchanged when it is off.
> - The benefit is a focused, readable conversation with the agent: live
tool activity folds into compact summaries, the composer stays at the
bottom, and properties, plan, and artifacts move into header tabs.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #49 (chat with agents is a much-wanted feature).

Related PRs found in the dedup search:
- #4489 — an earlier, closed attempt to promote the conversation to the
primary surface on issue detail. This PR is a fresh, flag-gated take on
the same goal.
- #8837 — an open PR that proposes a two-column task layout. It
restructures the same page but keeps the ticket paradigm; this PR is
orthogonal because it is opt-in and chat-first.

**Subsystem affected**

UI (issue detail page).

**Problem or motivation**

The issue detail page presents agent conversations as a ticket:
properties first, thread below, composer in the middle of the page, and
raw transcript noise during live runs. Users who mainly converse with
their agents must scroll past chrome to follow the conversation, and
live activity is hard to read.

**Proposed solution**

An opt-in chat-style view of the issue detail page, gated by a new
"Chat-Style Tasks" experiment toggle in Settings → Experimental. With
the flag on, the thread fills the center pane, the composer docks to the
bottom of the viewport, Properties / Plan / Artifacts become header
tabs, live turns show a status pill with the current tool action and
elapsed time, and settled turns collapse to a "Worked · N tools" summary
that expands into per-tool rows. With the flag off, nothing changes.

**Alternatives considered**

Restyling the existing layout in place (rejected: too disruptive without
an opt-out), and a separate chat page beside the issue page (rejected:
splits the task's single source of truth). A per-request lab page
(`/task-chat-lab`, dev-only) was kept for design iteration instead.

**Roadmap alignment**

ROADMAP.md "CEO Chat" wants lighter conversations that still resolve to
real work objects. This PR keeps the core task-and-comments model — it
only changes presentation, opt-in — so it does not duplicate that
planned work.

## What Changed

- New `enableTaskChatRedesign` instance setting, exposed as a
"Chat-Style Tasks" experiment card in Settings → Experimental (shared
feature catalog, validators, server instance-settings service, and UI
settings page).
- New `ui/src/components/task-chat/` component family: chat thread with
turn grouping, agent reply bubbles, live status pill, collapsible turn
summaries with per-tool rows, plan tab with a sticky CTA action bar,
inline interaction cards, per-request mode chips, and a bottom-docked
composer.
- A shared tool taxonomy (`tool-taxonomy.ts`) maps tool names to verbs
and icons; the status pill, tool rows, and the classic transcript view
all use it.
- A transcript adapter converts stored run logs into chat turns; it
dedupes tool-call updates by `toolUseId` so tool counts match the
expanded rows, and it keeps a tool row's first real name when later
generic updates arrive.
- Composer: posts on Cmd/Ctrl+Enter, supports image paste with
object-URL thumbnail previews (revoked on clear/unmount), and uploads
through the issue attachments route.
- `IssueDetail.tsx`: with the flag on, pane tabs move to the header bar,
the header is not sticky, and the chat fills the center; with the flag
off, the previous layout renders unchanged.
- Motion tokens for the new animations live in `ui/src/index.css` with a
`motion-tokens.ts` catalog and a test that keeps the two in sync (the
catalog now also covers the shared enter/exit/swap tokens that the
decision/quicklook block declares).
- A dev-only `/task-chat-lab` page with fixtures and a tweak panel for
motion tuning.

## Verification

- `pnpm typecheck` — clean across the workspace.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 CLEAN.
- `cd ui && pnpm vitest run` — 3,344 of 3,345 tests pass locally. The
one failure is `IssueProperties.test.tsx` monitor-row time formatting,
which is timezone-sensitive: it also fails on unmodified `origin/master`
in a non-UTC timezone and passes with `TZ=UTC`. It is not related to
this change.
- `cd server && pnpm vitest run
src/__tests__/instance-settings-service.test.ts` — 21/21 pass (covers
the new setting).
- Manual: start the dev server, open Settings → Experimental, enable
"Chat-Style Tasks", and open any issue. The thread fills the page, the
composer docks to the bottom, and Properties / Plan / Artifacts appear
as header tabs. Assign an agent and comment to watch a live run: the
status pill shows the current tool action with elapsed time, and the
finished turn folds into a "Worked · N tools" summary. Disable the
toggle and confirm the classic page is unchanged.
- Visual snapshot baselines are intentionally not updated: per
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`, "Per-change snapshot verification
demoted to dormant (Jul 13 2026)".

## Risks

- The flag-off path goes through the same `IssueDetail.tsx` file, so a
regression there would affect current users. Mitigation: the classic
markup renders through the same components as before behind explicit
flag conditionals, and the full UI suite passes.
- The transcript adapter interprets stored run-log formats, including
legacy entries without `toolUseId`. Malformed logs degrade to generic
tool rows rather than crashing.
- The new view changes no server behavior other than one additive
instance setting; it is additive and default-off. Overall risk with the
flag off is low.

DottaandPaperclip 53d6297f75 fix(ui): simplify external object labels and star controls (#9929)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI
agents and their work
> - Operators rely on task detail properties and header actions to scan
linked resources and make quick decisions
> - External GitHub objects used a long pull-request label and repeated
mention counts that added visual noise without adding state
> - The task-detail star action also rendered as a labelled outline
button, unlike the compact star controls used elsewhere
> - These inconsistencies made dense task-detail surfaces slower to scan
and broke Paperclip's content-first visual language
> - This pull request shortens the GitHub pull-request label, removes
duplicate mention-count decoration, and aligns the detail star action
with the icon-only control pattern
> - The benefit is a calmer, more consistent task-detail experience with
accessible labels preserved for assistive technology

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No matching public GitHub issue or open pull request was found.

**What happened?**

On the task detail surface, linked GitHub pull requests were labelled
`Github Pull Request` and could show a repeated `×N` mention count. The
detail-header star control used a labelled outline button rather than
the compact icon-only star pattern.

**Expected behavior**

Linked pull requests should use the concise `Github PR` label without
duplicate mention-count decoration, and the detail star action should
render as an accessible icon-only ghost button consistent with
neighboring controls.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open a task with a linked GitHub pull request mentioned more than
once.
2. Inspect the external-object property label and value row.
3. Inspect the star action in the task detail header.

**Paperclip version or commit:** `230126d80b` (`master` at preparation
time)

**Deployment / installation:** Local development, built from source.

**Scope:** Core UI; not adapter-specific, database-related, or
configuration-related.

## What Changed

- Render GitHub pull-request property labels as `Github PR`.
- Remove repeated external-object mention-count decoration from property
values.
- Render detail-header star controls as icon-only ghost buttons while
preserving `aria-label`, pressed, busy, error, and tooltip states.
- Expand component coverage for concise labels, duplicate-count
suppression, visual variants, and accessible star actions.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx
src/components/StarToggle.test.tsx` — 54 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed.
- Visual review (before/after plus normal, starred, pending, and error
states):
https://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://gist.githubusercontent.com/cryppadotta/9688862a8826c1134aa2b2e8c16509d8/raw/45cb4921851f8968b21e7490e0d705161a9e165d/star-toggle-review.html
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — reports five existing `#9627` violations in
files unchanged by this PR; the same values are present on `master`.

## Risks

- Low risk: changes are limited to task-detail presentation and tests.
- The star action remains fully accessible through its existing ARIA
label and tooltip, but it no longer displays visible text.
- External-object mention counts remain available in data; only the
redundant property-row decoration is removed.

f12bb27bcd feat: make issue monitors visible across task surfaces (#9783)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to supervise
AI-agent companies.
> - Operators need task execution state to be visible where they read,
reply to, and manage an issue.
> - Scheduled monitor state was easy to miss because it lived in a
description-area card and used inconsistent, mostly static time copy.
> - The task page, composer, retry card, and properties panel therefore
needed one shared monitor-state and countdown language.
> - This pull request adds shared live-ticking time utilities, moves
monitor status into a top-of-page banner and composer strip, and
redesigns the properties row with complete read-only details.
> - The benefit is that operators can immediately understand when an
agent resumes, why it is waiting, and how to act without hunting across
the page.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Issue monitors can schedule a future agent check, retry, or wake, but
the UI did not present that state consistently or prominently. The
existing description-area activity card competed with issue content, the
composer did not explain that replying wakes the agent early, compact
properties copy truncated important details, and relative times did not
share a live two-unit formatter.

This change makes scheduled monitor state visible and consistent across
the issue header, reply composer, properties panel, and scheduled-retry
card. Related prior server-side recovery visibility work: #9629
(distinct scope).

## What Changed

- Added shared two-unit monitor ETA/offset formatters and a live-ticking
countdown hook, including compact absolute-time rules for Today,
weekday, and cross-year dates.
- Replaced the description-area monitor activity card with a top-of-page
status banner and added an inline composer strip that explains replies
wake the agent before the scheduled check.
- Redesigned the properties Monitor row as readable two-line copy with
attempt state, due/overdue/cleared wording, click-to-edit behavior, and
a hover/tap details tooltip.
- Adopted the shared two-unit formatting in the scheduled-retry card and
added focused coverage for monitor formatting, state transitions,
visibility, and controls.
- Added the approved wireframe package and published reference:
https://pages.paperclip.ing/pap-14557-monitor-visibility/

## Verification

- `pnpm vitest run ui/src/lib/issue-monitor.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueMonitorBanner.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — 3 files, 74 tests passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed.
- `pnpm build` — passed with existing Vite optimization/chunk-size
warnings.
- UX review approved the rendered real components across desktop/mobile,
light/dark, and the scheduled/retrying/due/overdue/cleared/none state
matrix.
- QA passed 6/6 criteria in Chromium, including a live countdown
transition without refresh. Review evidence included the P2 banner
state-matrix screenshot and the P3 properties-row and details-tooltip
screenshots, plus a dark-mode capture.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` currently reports five pre-existing `#9627`
comment literals on `origin/master`; this branch introduces none of
those literals or any new token violation.

## Risks

- Low-to-moderate UI behavior risk: monitor copy and placement change
across several issue surfaces, but all derive from one shared state
builder and focused tests cover the state matrix.
- Countdown rendering wakes once per minute while a visible monitor is
scheduled; the hook is limited to active monitor surfaces and stops when
hidden.
- No database, API contract, migration, telemetry, or authorization
behavior changes.

discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap

## Model Used

- OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`; context-window metadata was unavailable
in this runtime; reasoning, repository tool use, command execution, and
test execution enabled. Earlier implementation commits were assisted by
Claude Fable 5 and Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context), as credited in their

59fb27ff79 feat(inbox): let agents safely tidy user inboxes (#9724)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage
AI-agent companies and their work
> - The inbox is a per-user attention view, so archiving an item must
not alter the underlying issue, assignment, or status
> - Agents can help responsible users tidy resolved work only when the
action is company-scoped, reversible, policy-controlled, and fully
attributable
> - The database and authorization foundations landed in #9654 and
#9658, but the end-to-end archive routes, audit details, agent workflow
guidance, and operator UI still need to ship together
> - Separate stacked PRs #9659 and #9661 made the complete behavior
harder to review and land as one coherent capability
> - This pull request consolidates the remaining server,
shared-contract, documentation, skill, and UI work on top of current
master
> - The benefit is a single reviewable change that lets agents safely
archive responsible-user inbox items and lets users control or undo that
behavior

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

### Subsystem affected

Cross-cutting inbox management across shared contracts, server
authorization/routes/services, shipped agent skills, and the board UI.

### Problem or motivation

Agents may complete work whose issue remains in the responsible user's
Mine inbox. Existing board-user archive behavior does not provide the
agent-facing policy endpoints, target resolution, heartbeat-run
attribution, typed denials, conservative workflow guidance, or UI needed
for safe agent-managed cleanup.

### Proposed solution

Allow authorized agents to archive or unarchive responsible-user inbox
items under the user's open, allowlist, or disabled policy; preserve
actor/agent/run attribution in issue detail and activity records; expose
policy controls and agent archive attribution in the UI; and document
conservative cleanup rules for agents and PR gardening.

### Alternatives considered

- Reuse generic issue mutation permissions: rejected because inbox state
belongs to a target user and requires user-scoped authorization.
- Automatically archive every completed or closed item: rejected because
completion signals can still require human review or a decision.
- Keep the backend and UI as separate stacked PRs: superseded by this
consolidated PR so the complete user-visible behavior can be reviewed
and verified together.

### Related work

- Builds on merged foundations #9654 and #9658.
- Supersedes the remaining stacked changes in #9659 and #9661.
- `ROADMAP.md` has no overlapping inbox archive or inbox authorization
initiative.

## What Changed

- Added shared inbox-agent policy types and validators plus
company-scoped self-service policy routes and OpenAPI coverage.
- Enabled agent archive/unarchive mutations with responsible-user
targeting, policy enforcement, typed failures, attribution, idempotency,
and detailed activity auditing.
- Returned agent archive attribution in issue detail and documented
reversible inbox cleanup semantics in the implementation spec and
Paperclip skill.
- Added conservative PR-gardening inbox tidy guidance that keeps GitHub
access read-only and avoids archiving work that still needs human
action.
- Added the Profile settings policy control and Issue Properties
attribution/unarchive UI with focused component coverage and narrow-pane
handling.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/inbox-archive-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/inbox-agent-policy-routes.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts
ui/src/components/InboxAgentPolicyControl.test.tsx
ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — 110 passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db exec vitest run
src/inbox-archive-agent-policies-migration.test.ts` — 1 passed.
- `node --test
.agents/skills/pr-gardening/scripts/pr-gardening.test.mjs` — 9 passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — changed files are clean; the
repository-wide command currently reports nine unrelated pre-existing
`#9627` literals outside this PR's diff.

## Risks

- Agent inbox mutations broaden an existing endpoint path, so
authorization and target resolution must remain fail-closed; focused
route and authorization tests cover allowed and denied paths.
- Archive state affects only the responsible user's inbox presentation
and remains reversible; it does not mutate issue status, assignment, or
visibility.
- The UI policy defaults to the existing open behavior, while allowlist
and disabled modes can reduce agent access.
- This PR intentionally builds on #9654 and #9658 and contains no new
migration number or modification to an already-applied migration.

shell execution, code review, and test execution.

DottaandPaperclip 89af58b6dc Clarify task-level model overrides in issue properties (#9710)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the control plane where operators configure and inspect
AI-agent work.
> - An issue can override the assigned agent's primary model for that
task.
> - The issue-properties UI labeled that per-task setting as `Custom ·
<model>`, which could be read as a property of the model rather than a
replacement of the agent default.
> - Operators need the UI to distinguish the agent's primary model from
an issue-specific override at both the collapsed summary and selection
point.
> - This pull request renames the lane presentation to `Override` and
adds concise provenance text without changing the stored lane value or
adapter configuration behavior.
> - The benefit is that operators can immediately understand which model
will run and why it differs from the agent default.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No matching public GitHub issue was found. Related implementation work:
#9700 moved Codex ACPX model configuration to startup and is already on
`master`; #9355 also addresses ACP session-config rejection behavior.
Those PRs concern execution behavior, while this PR is limited to
clarifying the issue-level override UI.

Bug report details:

- **What happened?** The issue-properties Model row displayed `Custom ·
<model>` for a task-level
`assigneeAdapterOverrides.adapterConfig.model`. Operators could misread
`Custom` as describing the model itself and could not see that the value
replaced the agent's primary model for this issue.
- **Expected behavior:** The UI should explicitly identify a task-level
model as an override and explain that it replaces the agent's primary
model for the issue.
- **Steps to reproduce:** Configure an agent with a primary model, set a
different model on an issue, and inspect the Model row and model picker
in Issue Properties.
- **Paperclip version or commit:** Reproduced on the pre-change branch
derived from current `master`.
- **Deployment mode:** Local development or any deployment using the
board UI.
- **Installation method:** Built from source.
- **Agent adapters involved:** Adapter-agnostic; any adapter exposing
model selection.
- **Database mode:** Not database-related.
- **Access context:** Board operator viewing issue properties.
- **Relevant logs or output:** Not applicable; this is a presentation
ambiguity.
- **Relevant config:** An issue-level
`assigneeAdapterOverrides.adapterConfig.model` differing from the
assigned agent's primary model.
- **Additional context:** The internal lane identifier remains `custom`;
only user-facing copy and explanatory text change.
- **Privacy checklist:** No private instance links, internal ticket IDs,
secrets, usernames, or local paths are included.

## What Changed

- Renamed the collapsed issue model label from `Custom · <model>` to
`Override · <model>` and added a provenance tooltip.
- Renamed the model-picker lane from `Custom` to `Override` and added
explanatory subtext at the selection point.
- Updated the Issue Properties component test to assert the new label.
- Added an isolated Storybook fixture for the task model override state
so visual review has a stable target.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — 43
tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed.
- `git diff --check public-gh/master...HEAD` — passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — the changed files are clean, but the
repo-wide command currently reports nine unrelated `#9627` comment
references already present on `master` as color literals.

## Risks

- Low risk: this changes display strings and explanatory copy only;
override storage, lane identifiers, API contracts, and execution
behavior are unchanged.
- The global token-gate false positive may also appear in CI until the
unrelated `#9627` references on `master` are allowlisted or the scanner
ignores issue-number comments.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex coding agent assisted this PR preparation using medium
reasoning, repository-aware shell execution, Git/GitHub tooling, and
local test/typecheck execution. The hosted runtime did not expose an
exact model ID or context-window size to this session.

5c85ae64a0 Cases: experimental first-class case object (#9198)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The board currently uses issues for execution, but longer-lived
content work needs a separate object that can survive beyond a single
task thread.
> - The Cases subsystem adds an experimental, company-scoped record for
content artifacts and their supporting metadata.
> - The backend needs durable storage, API routes, revision history,
issue linkage, and company-boundary enforcement before the UI can depend
on Cases.
> - The UI needs an opt-in navigation surface, list/detail views,
reference chips, and issue-page context so operators can inspect Cases
without making them the default workflow.
> - The agent-facing skills need a contract for creating and updating
Cases so automated content workflows can dogfood the feature.
> - This pull request ships that experimental end-to-end path behind the
`enableCases` flag.
> - The benefit is a first-class place to collect content work,
references, attachments, revisions, and related execution threads
without polluting the core issue model.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this experimental feature.

Feature request fields:

### Problem

Content-oriented work such as release notes, announcements, docs, and
campaigns can span many execution issues, which makes the final artifact
hard to find and reason about after the execution thread moves on.

### Proposed solution

Add an experimental Cases object that is company-scoped, linked to
issues, queryable through the API, inspectable in the board UI, and
writable by agent workflows through documented conventions.

### Alternatives considered

Continue encoding content artifacts directly in issues or documents
only. That keeps the data model smaller, but it does not give operators
a stable artifact-centric view or a clean way to link related execution
history.

### Roadmap alignment

Checked `ROADMAP.md`; this PR does not duplicate an existing planned
core roadmap item.

## What Changed

- Added the `cases` data model, migration, schema exports, and
experimental `enableCases` instance setting.
- Added company-scoped Cases API routes for list/detail/update, issue
links, revisions, children, activity events, annotations, attachments,
and idempotent agent-oriented upserts.
- Scoped case and issue lookup helpers before access checks so
inaccessible cross-company identifiers resolve as not found rather than
leaking existence.
- Fixed case PATCH timestamp handling so non-status updates cannot
overwrite `completedAt` from a stale pre-transaction row snapshot.
- Moved Cases list type/status/project filters into the server request
before the server-side limit is applied, including multi-select filters
and no-project filtering.
- Added backend route coverage for creation, updates, idempotency, issue
linking, attribution, company-boundary enforcement, OpenAPI
registration, list filtering, timestamp patch behavior, and inaccessible
lookup regressions.
- Added the experimental Cases UI surface: sidebar entry, gated routes,
list filters/grouping, detail overview, activity, revisions, children,
attachments, and issue-page case rail.
- Added case reference rendering and company-prefixed case href
generation so case links resolve directly inside the active company
route.
- Added Paperclip skill documentation for agent workflows that create or
update Cases.
- Wired release-content skills to emit Cases for dogfooding.
- Rebased onto current `master` and renumbered the Cases migrations to
`0143`/`0144` after the latest upstream migration sequence.

## Verification

- Current PR head: `ecc13be0d`.
- Rebased on current `master` (`606aa4f266`) and pushed to the existing
PR branch.
- `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` — passed before the first
update push; subsequent committed diffs were also checked with `git diff
--check` before commit.
- Guardrails checked: no `pnpm-lock.yaml` changes, no
`.github/workflows` changes, and changed-file count is below the
Greptile 100-file limit.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/cases-routes.test.ts
src/__tests__/instance-settings-service.test.ts
src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` — passed, 3 files / 26 tests
before review-fix commits.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/cases-routes.test.ts` — passed after each server-side
Greptile fix, latest 1 file / 15 tests.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` — passed after the
timestamp and lookup fixes.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/pages/Cases.test.tsx src/pages/CaseDetail.test.tsx
src/pages/CompanySkills.test.tsx src/App.cases-routing.test.tsx` —
passed, 4 files / 30 tests before review-fix commits.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/pages/Cases.test.tsx` — passed after the list-filter fix, 1 file /
12 tests.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed after the
list-filter fix.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed after UI changes.
- Remote PR checks on head `ecc13be0d` are green: Paperclip CI, build,
typecheck, test matrix, e2e, Canary Dry Run, policy, commit review,
Superagent Security Scan, Socket, Snyk, and Greptile passed; Storybook
visual regression is skipped and security-review is neutral.
- Greptile Review: 5/5 confidence, zero unresolved Greptile threads.

## Risks

- Medium feature risk because this introduces a new experimental domain
object across database, server, shared contracts, skills, and UI.
- The feature is gated behind `enableCases`, which limits default
operator exposure while the model is exercised.
- Case links now prefer company-prefixed hrefs; the unprefixed redirect
remains for externally entered URLs.
- Cases list filtering now sends multi-select filters to the server
before limiting; the UI still applies the same local filters as a second
pass for ancestor/context rows.
- Migrations were renumbered on top of current master; the SQL uses
guarded `IF NOT EXISTS` / `ADD COLUMN IF NOT EXISTS` patterns where
relevant for safer replay.

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex in the Paperclip local coding environment was used
for this PR curation, rebase verification, review-fix implementation,
push, and PR description update. The runtime exposes tool use and shell
execution; context-window size is not exposed by this Paperclip adapter.
Several implementation commits also include AI co-author trailers
recorded in git history.

scotttongandClaude Fable 5 c90e66bdd6 feat(ui): design-system component convergence — Card/Badge adoption, multiplicative radius ladder, unified list surfaces (#9240)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Its UI is governed by a design system (`DESIGN.md` + the token layer
in `ui/src/index.css`, merged in #9134) whose first principle is "one
way to say each thing" — one Card, one Badge, one nav row
> - After the token extraction landed, ~35 files still hand-rolled card
containers, ~45 files hand-rolled pill spans, the sidebar agents section
duplicated the nav-row chrome, and the inbox and tasks lists rendered
the same task rows two subtly different ways
> - Each divergence is a place where a future design change (radius,
hover language, status vocabulary) silently misses surfaces, defeating
the "edit tokens + run checks" model the design system exists for
> - This pull request converges those surfaces onto the shared
primitives, codifies the radius scale as the modern multiplicative
shadcn ladder, and unifies the row/hover/tree-guide language across the
inbox and tasks lists — every visible delta was human-reviewed
screen-by-screen against a live instance across nine feedback rounds
> - The benefit is that the app's look is now steerable from single
knobs (one `--radius` anchor, one Card, one Badge, one row component),
and the visual regression suite covers the result (514 snapshots
including a new AgentDetail page story)

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue exists for this work; describing per the feature
template:

- **Problem**: after the design-token foundation (#9134),
component-level drift remained — hand-rolled cards/pills, duplicated
sidebar row chrome, and two different renderings of task rows (inbox vs
tasks list) meant design changes had to be applied per-surface and
frequently missed spots (e.g. status glyphs rendered 16px in the inbox
but 20px in the tasks list because a slot override silently beat the
component default).
- **Proposed behavior**: all card-shaped containers render via `Card`,
all label pills via `Badge`, sidebar rows via `SidebarNavItem`, and both
task-list surfaces via one `IssueRow` configuration; the radius scale is
a single multiplicative ladder anchored at `--radius: 0.5rem`.
- **Alternatives considered**: converting interactive
`<button>`/`<Link>` cards to `Card` divs (rejected — breaks semantics;
documented inline with `design-allow` comments instead); keeping the
legacy additive radius ladder (rejected in favor of the standard shadcn
multiplicative mapping).

## What Changed

- `Card` adoption across ~35 files (settings pages, auth/board flows,
dashboards, list containers, KPI tiles); non-adoptable sites
(interactive cards, `<li>` rows, class-string props, chart tooltip)
carry documented `design-allow(card-pattern)` comments
- `Card` gains an `interactive` prop — one quiet hover affordance for
clickable cards (cursor, border darken, shadow lift, focus ring),
applied to skills tiles, artifact cards, and the company selector; cards
carry no resting shadow
- `Badge` adoption for 113 hand-rolled pill spans across ~45 files;
`PropertyChip` wraps `Badge` internally; `StatusBadge`, external-object
chips, and match chips stay bespoke by documented decision (WCAG-tuned
status mechanics)
- Radius ladder becomes the multiplicative shadcn mapping
(`sm/md/lg/xl/2xl/3xl/4xl = 0.6/0.8/1.0/1.4/1.8/2.2/2.6 × --radius`,
anchor `0.5rem`); every card surface unifies on `rounded-lg`; the
orphaned 8px literal token is deleted
- Sidebar: agent rows render via `SidebarNavItem` (new additive props:
`iconNode`, `active`, `trailing`, `liveAccessory`); live dots use
`--status-agent-running`; one row rhythm and inset rounded pill
highlight; right-aligned trailing badges; every labeled section is
collapsible
- Inbox + tasks lists unified: md status glyphs, `accent/50` rounded row
hovers, vertical tree guides under parent rows (opaque underlay so
dark-mode translucent borders don't stack), no horizontal dividers under
expanded parents; the swipe-to-archive reveal layer shows only
mid-swipe; board toggle uses the `SquareKanban` glyph
- Kanban: every column carries a status-hued tint; lanes default
expanded (including empty); compact mode collapses empty lanes to
labeled rails (fixes a clipped, label-less empty-column state)
- Storybook: new AgentDetail page story (realistic fixtures, light+dark)
joins the visual suite; suite captures with `reducedMotion: 'reduce'`
and the ux-lab reasoning ticker honors `prefers-reduced-motion`; a stale
lexical alias in `storybook/main.ts` is fixed (build was broken since
the lexical 0.46 bump)
- Keyboard navigation, from live review of the unified lists: inbox
navigation keys work on every tab (archive keys stay scoped to the
archivable tab); keyboard-driven scrolling no longer hands the selection
to whatever row lands under the stationary cursor (hover selects only
after real pointer movement); the tasks list view gains the same j/k /
arrows / Enter selection model as the inbox; and the `g` then `i`
go-to-inbox chord works app-wide instead of only on the issue detail
page
- Token gates restored to 3/3 CLEAN (tokenized a post-#9134 regression
in the recovery card); decisions recorded in
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md` and `doc/design/COMPONENT-INVENTORY.md`
(investigation verdicts: FileTree vs WorkspaceFileBrowser and the four
entity pickers stay separate — evidence included)

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` → 3/3 CLEAN
- `pnpm typecheck` → green (all packages)
- `cd ui && npx vitest run` → 2106/2106 (assertions updated in lockstep
where they documented superseded decisions; new tests for the global
go-to-inbox chord)
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` → exit 0
- `pnpm build-storybook` → succeeds (also fixes the lexical-alias break
on master)
- Visual regression: 514-snapshot Playwright suite green against the
updated baseline (zero diffs from the keyboard-navigation round — those
changes are purely behavioral). Note: baselines live outside git per the
suite design and the baseline-manifest archive is not yet published, so
CI cannot run this suite — it was run locally throughout; every visible
delta was reviewed screen-by-screen in a live instance across nine
review rounds. Review evidence (before/after triplets) intentionally
kept out of the repo for size; available on request.
- Manual: exercised dashboard, tasks (list + board), inbox, agents,
skills, costs, settings, and artifact surfaces in light and dark themes

## Risks

- Wide but shallow visual surface: most changes are class-string
substitutions with behavior preserved (props, handlers, roles, test
ids). The riskiest areas — dnd-kit card refs (React 19 ref-as-prop),
inbox swipe-to-archive, and sidebar overlays — are covered by existing
unit tests (all green) and were manually exercised.
- Intentional visual deltas (rounded cards, tinted kanban columns, md
status glyphs, unified hovers) are design decisions recorded in
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`; each maps to a re-baselined snapshot set
locally.
- The visual suite cannot yet run in CI (unpublished baseline archive —
pre-existing condition from #9134); until that lands, snapshot coverage
is local-only.

## Model Used

- Claude Fable 5 (`claude-fable-5`, Anthropic) via Claude Code — agentic
coding with tool use (file editing, test execution, Playwright
screenshot verification); extended thinking enabled.

c07e650cd7 feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets,
agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind
> - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at
~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending
on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two
toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no
visual regression coverage
> - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a
hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration
> - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer
in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed
by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate
retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs
> - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface:
retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked
by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed
visually without committing hundreds of PNGs

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens",
"visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in
spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of
the same problem class this PR addresses systematically).

**Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per
call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage;
consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file
edits.
**Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate
+ externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle
on top of that foundation.

## What Changed

- **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during
development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved
~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named
tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`.
- **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255
stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`,
plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes.
- **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed.
`tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable
archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs`
handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload`
flows.
- **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow
that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`,
downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright
report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate
baseline objects.
- **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero
arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**`
and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate
opt-outs.
- **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme
values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type
cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` +
Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps.
- **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills,
RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical
`--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces
that used dark-tuned text classes.
- **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form,
second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified.
- **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds
audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline
review/update workflows.
- Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical
contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames
(`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`).

## Verification

- `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system
run
- `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green
during the design-system run
- `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` —
pass after external-baseline rework
- `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext
--moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types
node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts
tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after
external-baseline rework
- `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline
rework
- `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` —
`0`
- `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally
fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline
archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json`

## Risks

- **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to
mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot
churn has been removed from the branch.
- **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in
clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata.
A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then
update `baseline-manifest.json`.
- **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be
captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs
verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count
mismatch.
- **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual`
label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable
Playwright report/test-result artifacts.
- **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette
classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component
consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in
`doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`.

## Model Used

Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with
extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical
phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline
rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository,
terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via
deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional
visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets.

ad961227f5 feat(secrets): add user-specific runtime secrets (#8825)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Agent runs often need provider credentials, API tokens, and other
environment-bound secrets.
> - Company-level secrets work for shared credentials, but they do not
model values that should differ by human operator.
> - Without a user-scoped model, a run can dispatch without knowing
whether the responsible human has supplied the needed value.
> - Paperclip also needs run attribution to make those user-scoped
runtime checks deterministic and auditable.
> - This pull request adds user-specific secret definitions, per-user
values, environment bindings, responsible-user attribution, and runtime
resolution gates.
> - The benefit is that teams can define the secret once, let each user
provide their own value, and block runs before dispatch when required
user secrets or active definitions are unavailable.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #224
Refs #6057

This PR implements user-specific secret support as a core
secret-management capability rather than a one-off adapter setting. It
is related to existing public work on company secrets UI and runtime
secret refs, but is distinct because the value is owned by the
responsible user and resolved at run dispatch time.

Related PR search before opening found existing secrets work such as
#1550, #8256, #8614, #8634, and #8647; none of those add the full
user-secret definition/value/runtime gate covered here.

## What Changed

- Added user-secret definitions and per-user "My secrets" values,
keeping stored values out of access metadata.
- Added `user_secret_ref` environment bindings and UI affordances to
pick them alongside existing secret refs.
- Added responsible-user runtime resolution so user-secret refs resolve
against the human responsible for the run.
- Added pre-dispatch missing-secret gates so runs fail before adapter
dispatch when required user values are absent or definitions are
inactive.
- Added low-trust allowlist hardening for user-secret runtime access.
- Added issue, routine, run, and agent API key responsible-user
attribution and fail-closed dispatch behavior when attribution cannot be
resolved.
- Added denial-copy mapping so responsible-user authorization failures
surface as actionable run outcomes instead of opaque setup failures.
- Added OpenAPI documentation for the user-secret routes.
- Rebases cleanly on current `master`; migrations were renumbered
incrementally as `0128_user_specific_secrets`,
`0129_agent_api_key_responsible_user`, and
`0130_run_responsible_user_invariant` after upstream `0126`/`0127`
migrations.
- Removed previously committed local design screenshots so the PR
contains code/docs/tests only.

## Risks

- Runtime behavior now depends on a run having a correct responsible
user; missing or incorrect responsibility assignment can block runs
before adapter dispatch.
- `user_secret_ref` bindings intentionally expose metadata without
values, but UI/API callers may need to handle the new binding kind
explicitly.
- External secret providers and IAM policies are not automatically
provisioned by this PR; operators still need to configure provider-side
access for non-local vaults.
- The PR is broad across db/shared/server/UI/runtime paths, so release
validation should include both API and UI secret workflows before merge.
- The migration renumbering is intentionally incremental after upstream
migrations; the branch migrations use guarded
column/table/index/constraint creation so users who tested the older
draft numbering should not hit duplicate DDL for the existing objects.

with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap
first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent (`gpt-5`), Codex local adapter
with shell/tool use and code execution. Context window and internal
reasoning mode are not exposed by the runtime.

47448721e1 [codex] Clean up issue properties pane (#8941)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The issue details sidebar is a high-traffic operator surface for
scanning task state, ownership, policy, relationships, and external
references.
> - The previous properties pane mixed too much behavior in one large
component and several rows could overflow or become hard to scan with
long labels and relation lists.
> - The UI needed a narrower, more reusable structure so compact
property rows, relation pills, external URL rows, and picker triggers
behave consistently.
> - This pull request splits the properties pane into focused helper
modules and tightens the pane's layout, truncation, popover, and
overflow behavior.
> - The benefit is a denser, more stable properties pane that stays
usable when issues have long titles, many relationships, external URLs,
or execution policy IDs.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public issue exists for this work. I searched GitHub issues and PRs
for `IssueProperties properties pane`; there was no duplicate issue and
the matching PRs were unrelated test stabilization or other work.

### Problem or motivation

The board issue details properties pane is a frequent operator workflow
surface, but it was implemented as one large component and several rows
could become hard to scan with long labels, many relationships, external
URLs, or execution policy IDs.

### Proposed solution

Split the properties pane into focused modules, tighten compact row
layout and truncation behavior, add bounded previews with explicit
expansion controls for long relation and URL lists, and make execution
policy ID generation work on insecure origins as well as normal browser
origins.

### Alternatives considered

A smaller patch inside the existing monolithic component would fix
individual overflow symptoms, but it would keep related primitives,
picker behavior, relation controls, and external URL rendering tangled
in one file. The split keeps the behavior easier to test and review
without changing public APIs.

### Roadmap alignment

This is an incremental UI quality improvement to the existing board task
details surface. I checked `ROADMAP.md` and did not find overlapping
planned core feature work.

## What Changed

- Split the issue properties pane into focused modules for helpers,
primitives, relation controls, property pickers, and external object
rows.
- Cleaned up row spacing, truncation, picker trigger alignment, scroll
behavior, status color coverage, and long-value titles.
- Added bounded previews and expand/collapse controls for blocking,
sub-task, related-task, and external URL lists.
- Fixed execution policy ID generation so insecure origins fall back to
a stable base URL instead of throwing.
- Updated Storybook issue-management stories and expanded unit coverage
for the new properties pane behavior.

## Verification

- `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/IssueProperties.test.tsx` — 38 tests passed

## Risks

Low to moderate risk. The changes are UI-only, but they touch a
frequently used task details surface. The main risk is a subtle layout
regression in an untested viewport or issue shape; the branch adds
targeted coverage for long relation and external URL lists.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex coding agent with repository tool use, shell
execution, GitHub CLI access, and local test execution. Context window
size was not exposed in this runtime.
