DottaandPaperclip 61bd4ac691 feat(agents): set up Antigravity with saved Google subscriptions (#18189)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents and their work.
> - Users choose providers and managed accounts while adding agents.
> - Antigravity was missing from the ordinary additional-agent picker
and its saved Google path did not complete native readiness.
> - A user needs a successful Test, an enabled task action, and a stable
account binding.
> - This pull request connects the ordinary setup flow to the native
candidate.
> - It also preserves retired credential refreshes across database
failures and server restarts.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Built on merged #18188 and #18187. Refs: #12503, #14938 for related
legacy CLI proposals.

**Agent or provider**

Google Antigravity ACP 1.4.3.

**Why this adapter is useful**

Users need to set up an Antigravity agent and run real work through
their managed Google subscription.

**How the agent is invoked**

Native Paperclip Runner uses the pinned Antigravity ACP runtime. Exact
operator admission remains required; the local candidate result does not
enable general release.

## What Changed

- Show Google Antigravity in the ordinary adapter grid and preserve the
draft choice when setup resumes.
- Reuse the same user’s saved personal default Google subscription and
discover the exact low model through the native account.
- Run a prompt-free native Test and wait for authoritative readiness
before enabling task assignment.
- Carry the managed account through native runs and recover retired
refreshes through the existing encrypted, fsynced journal with exact
generation checks.
- Retain the latest rotated credential through verification, storage,
and partial home-removal failures. Retry the exact account’s retained
cleanup before another provider use.
- Reconcile cleanup before taking the credential mutation lock, fence
owners arriving during lock acquisition, and support nested lock holders
without a join cycle.
- Bound sign-in retirement outside database transactions and preserve
claims for the existing cleanup owner; one pending sign-in does not
block unrelated accounts.
- Cover Gemini and Pi API-key recovery, keep API-key bulk manual-model
editing usable, and keep adapter discovery available after candidate
expiry.
- Skip taskless native timer work before run or credential admission.
Preserve current master monitor and deadline scheduling.

## Verification

- The registered local saved-Google-subscription journey passed all 16
matchers in 196,520 ms using eval source `12aba` against actual serving
source `4a37ee7c`. Both turns stayed in one conversation, produced exact
downloaded files of 61 and 119 bytes after reload, and used distinct
native primary processes. All observed owners retired, leases released,
and credential fences settled. Independent readback confirmed Done work,
no active owned runs, a connected saved account, and the retained agent
paused for inspection.
- The measured runtime is production-equivalent to pre-restack
`65ef31dc` except its test-only transport fixture correction.
Current-master head `ff7c9249` preserves all 99 product paths: 98 exact
blobs and only eight inherited plugin-panel lines in `agents.ts`. Its
native binary was rebuilt for inherited Codex-only diagnostic changes;
the changed Rust behavior is outside Antigravity's ACPX execution path.
Shared native/UI changes have focused regression coverage. The recorded
live result is not represented as a measured replay of `ff7c9249`.
- Full workspace build and typecheck passed on `ff7c9249`. All 376
focused tests in 14 files passed, covering Google credential/retirement
controls and the inherited native-tool, redaction, route, and UI
recovery changes. Token gates, maps, and diff checks passed. The
required-close fixture was separately demonstrated red, then passed all
317 selected provider-wiring cases.
- [Current-head
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40959387972)
is green: 55 successful checks, two skipped workflow checks, and an
optional neutral review check. Required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`
passed. Greptile and Paperclip Review both report 5/5 on exact
`ff7c9249`, with zero unresolved review threads.
- This qualifies the selected operator-authorized local
saved-subscription candidate. The original exploratory journey remains
historical evidence; the repeatable fixed-driver eval is in the next PR.

## Risks

- Google refresh recovery must preserve the exact grant, account, and
credential generation. An uncertain native owner or failed encrypted
handoff retains the private home and blocks cleanup.
- A successful local saved-subscription candidate does not qualify fresh
OAuth, API keys, Cloud, Linux, other models, or general release.
- Timer filtering changes only taskless native Runner admissions.
Existing task-bound monitors and legacy adapters retain their owners.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex (GPT-6). The host did not expose the exact model revision
or context limit. The model used tools for code edits, tests, and
review.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 75754ffb7a fix: offer setup instead of Run for unfinished agents (#17976)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - An agent can have a saved record before its setup is complete.
> - This record stays paused with the setup reason and cannot run.
> - Its shared action controls still offer Run beside Finish setup.
> - Run then produces a generic refusal instead of taking the user to
setup.
> - This change makes Finish setup replace Run for that state.
> - The user returns to the saved agent and can run it after setup
completes.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

The header of a saved agent with unfinished setup offers Run. Clicking
it produces "Agent is not invokable in its current state." Finish setup
is a separate control that the user must discover.

**Expected behavior**

Show one Finish setup action in place of Run and Resume while the setup
hold is present. Open the existing setup record with its selected
runner. Restore normal controls when setup finishes.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start creating an agent and save it before setup completes.
2. Open the agent from the roster to view its header.
3. Click Run and observe the generic refusal.

Related: #17965 fixes the managed Runner connection-test result. This
change fixes the controls for a saved setup record. No open duplicate
was found in the title search.

## What Changed

- Replace Run with one Finish setup action for a unfinished setup
record.
- Use the existing paused-state fallback when lifecycle details are
absent.
- Keep the saved agent ID and runner selection in the setup route.
- Check unsaved changes before leaving the detail page.
- Refresh pause reason and time with lifecycle state so completing setup
in another tab restores Run without overwriting editable configuration.
- Keep setup available when a caller hides Run or disables work actions.
- Extend the agent action tests, onboarding browser journey and feature
map.

## Verification

- Red: three component regressions fail before the fix. The old UI keeps
Run, lacks setup without lifecycle details, and skips the navigation
guard.
- Three more regressions fail before the preparation-state fix.
Preparation, verification and pause transitions retain Finish setup;
terminal states cannot reopen setup.
- Green: 211 focused tests pass across agent actions, duplication,
detail pages and saved setup. The final control suite passes 36 tests.
- A real QueryClient, lifecycle hook and action-control regression fails
before the pause-field refresh fix, then passes after it. The short-URL
editable snapshot stays unchanged while the UUID lifecycle query
restores Run.
- UI typecheck and production build pass. Token and map checks pass.
- The real Chromium onboarding journey passes on final source
`67c4c59f6fbfc5bc8eca8f70e12b8dc1c3763f4f`: no Run or Resume, one Finish
setup after reload, and the same saved agent reopens. The first attempt
could not initialize the disposable PostgreSQL instance at the local
shared-memory limit; no app assertion ran. After removing only a
verified detached segment from this task’s completed browser run, the
unchanged journey passes. No staging deployment is claimed.
- A separate local integration branch combines this PR with the final
write-recovery fixes from #17960. Its 36 action-control tests and the
real onboarding browser journey pass too. This integration preview is
not pushed to the PR branch.
- All hosted CI gates pass on the final commit, including typecheck,
tests, build and E2E. Apex is 5/5 with no unresolved findings.

## Risks

- The change uses the existing setup pause reason through preparation
and verification. Terminating and terminal records cannot reopen setup.
Manual pauses retain Resume, and ready agents retain Run.
- The API remains authoritative if state changes while the page is open.
No admission, permission, account or credential rule changes.
- The browser journey stops at setup configuration. It does not claim
provider execution or deployment acceptance.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository inspection, tool
use and code execution. The session does not expose its exact serving
model ID or context window size.

DottaandPaperclip 25f2d05282 fix(ui): remove the provider trace run button (#17211)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The agent header provides actions to assign work and start runs.
> - A second run button starts a run with raw provider tracing.
> - Agent configuration already has a switch for raw tracing on future
runs.
> - This pull request removes the extra run button and its unused code.
> - The header keeps one normal run action and the saved tracing status.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The action buttons in the agent detail header.

**Current behavior**

Administrators see Run now and Run with provider trace next to each
other.

**Proposed behavior**

Remove Run with provider trace from the header. Use Capture raw provider
traces in the configuration Debugging section to enable tracing for
future runs.

**Reason and benefit**

Keep the normal run action clear. Put the tracing setting with the other
agent settings.

**Breaking changes**

The separate trace button is removed. The tracing configuration, trace
API, and run inspector actions stay available.

## What Changed

- Remove the trace button, its property, and its mutation.
- Remove the property from the agent detail page.
- Update tests for normal runs with saved tracing on and off.
- Check normal actions for Codex, Dot, and Muse.
- Document the tracing setting in the feature map.

## Verification

- Passed: 178 focused UI tests across AgentActionButtons,
AgentDetail.accounting, RunnerInspector, AgentConfigForm, and
AgentConfigForm.render.
- Passed: pnpm check:token-gates.
- Passed: node scripts/check-maps.mjs.
- Passed: git diff --check.
- Passed: [PR CI
workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39796866659),
including the required verify and e2e gates.
- Passed: Greptile 5/5 with no open review threads.
- Two optional job badges still say running. Their test, cleanup, and
final job steps passed. The parent workflow completed with success.
- The broad local checks could not complete with the installed
dependencies. The full typecheck and build require smol-toml. The UI
checks also require @spekoai/client and the plugin SDK UI build. The
full test run was stopped after many suites could not load. The PR
workflow and both required gates passed for the current head.
- To inspect the UI, open an agent. Confirm there is one Run now action.
Enable Capture raw provider traces under configuration, Debugging. Save
the change. Confirm the header shows Raw tracing on and still has one
run action.

## Risks

- Low risk. This removes one UI action and its unused code.
- Administrators use the saved Debugging setting for tracing future
runs.
- No API, database, or permission changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, and code
execution. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed
in this run.

DottaandPaperclip 734c265339 Default new Pi agents to Paperclip Runner (#17142)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - Users choose a harness during agent setup.
> - Claude, Codex, and OpenCode already receive their qualified Runner
default.
> - Pi has a qualified native integration but new Pi agents still use
the direct adapter.
> - This change gives new Pi agents the native default on supported
targets.
> - Saved agents keep their runner and compatible settings. Legacy
remains available in Advanced.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #17120, #14921, #14922, #14923, #14924, and #14956. Related generic
default work: #15422. This PR is the separate Pi follow-up to the merged
OpenCode change.

**Current behavior**

Choosing Pi for a new agent saves the direct Pi adapter. The native Pi
integration remains behind the generic experimental flag.

**Proposed behavior**

Default new Pi agents to ACPX Pi on macOS ARM64/x64 and GNU/Linux x64
with supported glibc. Keep unsupported targets and explicit Legacy
selections on the direct adapter. Require an explicit provider/model
before test or hire. Permit model-free inactive setup drafts.

**Reason and benefit**

Users choose Pi once and receive its qualified runner. Saved agents
retain their identity and settings. Conversions reject unsupported
legacy thinking and launch settings instead of dropping them.

## What Changed

- Add Pi to the shared platform/default contract and server creation
selection.
- Admit native Pi without the generic experimental flag.
- Preserve provider models, credentials, workspace settings, exact
thinking, and saved native policies.
- Add Pi runner controls, branding, setup resume, onboarding, built-in
configuration, and import handling.
- Add managed Pi OpenRouter routing and matching native provider API-key
accounts. Keep subscription and custom gateway exclusions. Clear
alternate credentials and reject custom Pi provider overrides.
- Keep Pi draft models empty instead of applying Claude's default model.
- Verify setup against the pinned Pi runtime. For native Pi on the
official OpenRouter route, reverify the API key live without requiring a
global Legacy Pi CLI.
- Match Pi’s bounded controller close window to its native snapshot
cleanup and lifetime verification, preserving explicit caller deadlines
and the mandatory drain/suspension proof.
- Bind Pi sidecars to the package that owns the pinned native assets,
including source and vendored server layouts. Other providers retain
their existing package authority.
- Keep protocol-owned finish/block tools out of the ACPX forwarded
catalog. The trusted bridge installs these tools itself; the complete
Rust authorization catalog and terminal receipt ledger remain intact.
This fixes actual Pi session startup and applies to other ACPX
consumers.
- Advance Copilot’s shared-source attestation to v58 because it pins the
shared files touched by Pi. Preserve immutable v57 bytes and historical
decoding; Pi’s own release identity is unchanged.
- Add regression coverage and update the paired maps and developer
documentation.

## Verification

- Passed: full repository typecheck and full production build on final
head 656d304783, including the generated attestation repair.
- Passed: focused shared/server/UI suites covering default selection,
platform fallback, conversion preservation, inactive drafts, managed
account compatibility, credential isolation, OpenRouter routing/model
IDs, exact thinking controls, and saved-account selection. Relevant
batches include 375 server/conversion tests, 267 account/routing tests,
and 110 UI setup/account tests.
- Passed: 179 attestation, historical-profile, qualified-profile, and
native-execution contract tests after CI identified stale Copilot source
hashes. The identity generator check passes; the only delta after the
passing Pi browser run is this Copilot attestation/history repair.
- Passed: 145 managed-account tests, including actual service
preparation and API-key adoption/rejection for native Pi without the
Legacy CLI; 6 pinned-installation probe tests.
- Red then green: an actual task failed session.open because its
54-operation catalog included the bridge-owned terminal tools. The
regression with those tools failed before the filter; all 399 Rust
library tests pass after it. The full product retry exposed an
additional package-authority mismatch. Four authority tests failed
before that repair; 11 authority checks and 14 installation/asset checks
pass afterward. Direct real Pi session initialization with the corrected
package root and catalog succeeds. No model prompt was sent by that
diagnostic.
- Red then green: real Pi posted Hello from Pi but its controller closed
before native cleanup could finish. The cleanup-budget test failed with
the old default and passes with the bounded Pi window. All 46 selected
suspension, drain, and package-authority tests pass after building their
native fixture.
- Passed: token gates, paired map checks, Rust formatting, and git diff
--check.
- Passed real browser acceptance on macOS ARM64, generic native runner
flag disabled, source a433748a12 (Pi code unchanged afterward): the UI
selects Paperclip Runner by default, retains Pi and the selected
model/account, and verifies the pinned runtime plus live OpenRouter key.
A fresh UI-created task, assigned to the UI-created native Pi agent,
posted exactly `Hello from Pi` and reached Done without retry or
restart. The native run and workspace finalization succeeded; the
response and Done persisted after Reload.
- Evidence: 8 preserved browser attempts, including the final passing
18-step journey with all screenshots. Prior failures remain recorded.
The earlier failed checkpoint run recovered on server restart; that
recovery is separate from the fresh final task’s clean success.
- Preserved browser failures: missing account control/inherited Claude
draft model; incompatible managed-account/model-prefix handling; generic
npm probe for Pi; Legacy CLI hello check; duplicate terminal tools and
wrong provider-package authority at actual native session.open; a real
Hello from Pi comment followed by premature checkpoint cleanup timeout.
Each failure has retained screenshots/logs and a corresponding focused
repair. The fresh final task proves these repairs end to end.
- The exact Runner Vitest shard was also run locally after the
attestation fix: the stale-hash failure is gone; 1,833 tests passed, 10
skipped, and two Codex retained-control settlement scenarios failed with
`native_cleanup_maintenance_unproven` during terminal ACK/suspension
replay. Both scenarios passed in an isolated rerun (2/2), and the same
19-test file passed in the preceding Linux CI run. The precise
full-shard timing cause is not established. These Codex scenarios are
outside the changed Pi paths; the original local failures are retained;
no complete local Runner-shard pass is claimed. The corresponding Runner
shard now passes on the final head in hosted Linux CI. All 60 final-head
check runs are now terminal and clean (55 successful, 1 neutral, 4
skipped), and the legacy Snyk status is successful.
- Local full repository tests were attempted but not completed:
provisioning briefly confused a workspace symlink, then a later run was
stopped before browser-driven repairs. No full local-suite pass is
claimed. Final-head hosted CI is green and fresh Greptile review is 5/5
with all review threads resolved; earlier jobs canceled by runner
shutdown are not counted as a pass.

## Risks

- Pi cleanup has a finite 45-second default window, accounting for the
native 30-second snapshot cleanup and 5-second lifetime fence. Other
providers and explicit caller deadlines retain their prior behavior.
- Pi requires explicit operator setup with `paperclipai runtime setup
pi` on the execution host. This PR does not add automatic downloads.
- Linux ARM64, Windows, musl, and unqualified targets retain Legacy.
- Legacy thinking levels minimal, medium, and xhigh cannot be translated
exactly. Native max thinking, warm lifecycle, or restricted permissions
cannot be dropped during a return to Legacy.
- Copilot’s bound profile advances to v58 with exact current launch
admission; v57 remains decodable for recovery. No historical identity is
rewritten.
- Existing agents and immutable run descriptors are not migrated. Cloud
Pi availability is unchanged.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex with reasoning, code editing, command
execution, and browser use. The exact serving model ID and
context-window size are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 39e44a9d9b Default new OpenCode agents to Paperclip Runner (#17120)
Default new OpenCode agents to Paperclip Runner on qualified macOS and Linux x64 targets. Preserve saved runner choices, explicit Legacy selection, and unsupported-target fallback. Pi remains a separate change.

Verified the complete browser path with a real OpenRouter connection: create the new agent, assign a task, observe its response and Done status, and reload to confirm persistence. CI passes and Greptile is 5/5 with no unresolved findings.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 79b2bf78dd Create agent records when onboarding names are submitted (#17005)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Core onboarding selects an agent and connects its provider account.
> - The current flow creates the agent record after authentication.
> - Setup needs a stable agent identity as soon as the user submits its
name.
> - This PR saves a paused setup record on name submission and finishes
the hire on that same record.
> - The existing sandbox authentication and approval paths continue to
apply.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Subsystem affected**

Core agent lifecycle, shared validators, and onboarding UI.

**Current behavior**

Onboarding creates the database record at the final hire step. Earlier
authentication and saved setup have no agent record.

**Proposed behavior**

Create a paused agent with a setup hold when the user submits its name.
Do this before adapter selection or authentication. Update that same
record after adapter selection. Reuse its ID on retries and saved setup.
Finish that record through the existing hire path.

**Reason and benefit**

Give setup a stable identity without coupling this refactor to computer
provisioning or a new execution backend.

**Breaking changes**

Incomplete setup now leaves an inactive agent record. Existing clients
can still create and hire agents without the new optional fields. The
sandbox authentication flow and API key support remain in place.

**Additional context**

Requested Core-only refactor. Related work: #15422 changes runner
defaults. This PR preserves those choices. No duplicate early-record
refactor was found in the issue and PR search.

## What Changed

- Save the agent when the user submits its name in both onboarding entry
points. Use a provisional adapter until the user chooses one. Reopen
name-only drafts at adapter selection.
- Add retry-safe setup creation and same-record hire completion. Keep
approval checks at final hire.
- Save and restore setup configuration in both onboarding entry points.
Show Finish setup for paused setup agents.
- Restrict setup changes to authorized board users. Block generic resume
until setup finishes.
- Add lifecycle, authorization, connection, and UI coverage. Update the
specification and feature maps.

## Verification

- Latest focused server run: 126 lifecycle and AI-connection tests
passed after the Apex fixes. An earlier broader run passed 301
lifecycle, instruction, adapter-validation, and AI-connection tests.
Earlier authentication, retry, cross-company, and direct-create
regressions also passed.
- Name-save verification: 336 tests across the wizard, naming dialog,
New agent, action-button, and wizard-step suites passed. Coverage
includes retry identity, repeated submission, closing during a save,
saved-model restoration, and a disabled process adapter.
- Shared, server, and UI TypeScript checks passed. The latest UI package
check and direct server TypeScript check passed. The server package
preparation command could not finish locally because Cargo is
unavailable; full build preparation runs in CI. Map checks, token gates,
and `git diff --check` passed; each pushed diff was scanned for
credentials and PII.
- All six onboarding browser tests passed together with installed Chrome
against a fresh throwaway instance after the Apex fixes. They include
numbered duplicate names, first-time Copilot without a connected
account, and Grok’s saved model. They verify early persistence in both
entry points, closing and reopening a name-only draft, same-record
adapter selection, sandbox sign-in, login reload, and failed-connection
gating. Provider responses are simulated; Core persistence is real.
- Regression coverage includes incomplete Copilot creation versus final
validation, Kimi settings through redacted responses, stale local
drafts, company switches during creation, saved environments, and
provider changes with personal/shared old bindings.
- Apex found five name-only setup gaps: numbered names, early Copilot
account validation, the Grok model default, same-name draft ownership,
and provisional runner restoration. The fixes preserve server names,
defer implicit account binding until hire, set Grok’s model, avoid
name-based reuse of unfinished records, and restore Auto for pending
adapter choices. UI, database, and browser regressions cover these
cases.
- Standard Greptile found a Grok provider mismatch in the new adapter
save. The save now uses ACPX with the Grok profile. Both the 129-test
dialog/setup run and a real-API browser regression passed after the fix.
The first browser attempt stopped on an ambiguous empty-roster button
selector; it now scopes the click to the toolbar.
- Moving the save point exposed a saved-model reset and timing
assumptions in the same-name and portal fixtures. The source choice now
preserves the restored model, and tests cover same-name recovery without
a second hire.
- Initial CI exposed direct-create compatibility, concurrent setup
effects, fixture assumptions, and a missing-fields assumption in the
provider-validation guard. These were fixed and verified locally. Review
findings were addressed with authorization, recovery,
credential-persistence, and restored-configuration regressions.
- The final desktop capture passed after host resource cleanup. A repeat
first failed before Core started because macOS had exhausted
shared-memory IDs. Standalone PostgreSQL initialization reproduced the
same error. Releasing only unattached control segments from this task’s
stopped test databases allowed the unchanged revision to pass. No Core
or system setting changed.
- Local database tests required port access outside the sandbox. Missing
declared development dependencies were supplied outside the branch. No
live provider sign-in was tested locally.
- [Full monorepo
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39522434236)
is green on `82b82fec189a172a885d4dd565ae2f4a18c73efc`. Standard
Greptile scored 5/5 with zero new comments (check `118969424903`). The
subsequent Apex review also scored 5/5 with zero new comments (check
`118972866331`) on that same commit. All review threads are resolved.
- The separate Superagent Security scan returned neutral/inconclusive
because its pinned merge-base checkout failed or timed out. GitHub
returned 404 for check and suite rerun requests. This is not a
successful security scan; the CI workflow and other security checks
passed.

## Risks

- Users can leave inactive setup records behind, including after name
submission alone. These records cannot run until hire completes.
- Setup completion touches hiring and approval boundaries. Tests cover
retries, company isolation, creator permissions, and approval snapshots.
- An uncertain credential-save result retains its new secret reference
for retry. A confirmed client rejection removes only credentials staged
by that attempt.
- No schema migration or VM provisioning change is required.
Agent-computer integration is out of scope.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with repository search, code editing, and
tool execution. The exact deployment ID and context window are not
exposed in this session.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 5badea4798 Use the agent lifecycle contract for plugin setup and status (#15391)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Some plugins must prepare resources before an agent can work.
> - Those resources must stop or be removed when the agent pauses or
terminates.
> - The agent lifecycle module now owns these steps and their durable
completion.
> - Plugins use its required callback contract instead of a separate
readiness query.
> - This PR documents that contract and shows its progress and retry
action on the agent page.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #15631

**Subsystem affected**

Required plugin lifecycle work and the agent detail page.

**Problem or motivation**

The lifecycle module exposes `onAgentLifecycle` and
`agents.lifecycle.manage`, but the plugin authoring guide does not
explain their use. The agent page displays legacy status. Setup
therefore looks paused and offers Resume. Termination leaves the page
before resource cleanup completes.

**Proposed solution**

Use the callback, admission guards, persisted state, and retry route
supplied by the lifecycle module. Show pending phases and fixed host
errors. Keep the detail page open during incomplete termination. Use
lifecycle state for pause and resume controls.

**Alternatives considered**

A separate plugin readiness query would duplicate the module's state and
admission rules. The final diff contains no readiness API, database
commit hooks, or second admission check.

## What Changed

- Document the manifest declaration, callback results, phase ordering,
capability scope, retry behavior, and provider revision requirements.
- Correct SDK comments for lifecycle, routing, and external object
callbacks.
- Show preparation, verification, pause, resume, termination, and
cleanup progress from the existing agent fields.
- Refresh pending steps every two seconds and other states every thirty
seconds. Keep these reads separate from the agent record used by
editable forms. Use the existing authorized retry route for failed
steps.
- Offer Pause during setup. Disable pause and resume while stop or
cleanup is incomplete. Keep cleanup failures reachable on the detail
page. Disable new work after termination starts.
- Test required resource work across setup, pause, resume, and confirmed
deletion. Test every worker callback phase, missing handlers, retry
authorization, and UI behavior.

## Verification

- Focused UI tests: 139 passed across lifecycle status, action buttons,
API tests, and the configuration form. A regression preserves unsaved
edits during an in-flight lifecycle refresh and a failed refresh.
- Focused host and shared tests: 113 passed across lifecycle
integration, retry authorization, plugin RPC, and manifest validation.
The database suite used isolated local PostgreSQL 18 through a temporary
loader outside the repository.
- Module boundary tests: 11 passed. Module import/write checks and UI
token gates passed.
- Plugin SDK build, server direct TypeScript check, and UI TypeScript
check passed.
- `git diff --check` and an added-line secrets/private-reference scan
passed. Fixtures use synthetic identities.
- Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed using the existing
local Rust toolchain.
- Visually checked all six progress phases with the application
components and styles. Captured preparation and cleanup failure
screenshots from the production UI build with synthetic API data;
artifacts are kept outside git.
- Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted and stopped after a
native-runner failure reproduced in isolation:
`native-session-resume.test.ts` / `archives a damaged prior epoch before
completing guarded same-task replacement with real runnerd` returns a
failed Codex fixture result instead of success. The native-runtime and
runner trees are unchanged from the base. No full local test pass is
claimed.
- All latest-head CI checks passed, including test shards, verification,
E2E, and the canary packaging check. Greptile reviewed commit
`96473e03a` at 5/5 with no unresolved comments.

## Risks

- Selected required plugins remain a dependency for lifecycle
completion. The lifecycle module retains their requirements when a
plugin is disabled or removed.
- Plugins must make repeated provider operations safe and fence older
revisions. Host revision checks do not cancel external requests.
- Polling adds one agent-detail read every two seconds during pending
work and every thirty seconds otherwise.
- No schema change, private VM provider implementation, resource
backfill, or deployment is included. No live provider test was run.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code
editing, and command execution. The exact model revision and context
window were not reported by the runtime.

DottaandPaperclip ebaeba40ee feat: simplify agent onboarding and configuration (#13011)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Operators create agents and configure their runtimes in the board
UI.
> - The old creation flow presents several choices and a large form
before an agent can start.
> - The existing onboarding controls already provide clear provider
connection steps.
> - This pull request uses those controls in a new-agent wizard and
organizes the full configuration pages.
> - Operators can connect, test, save, and assign a first task while
keeping the existing configuration tools.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Related: #10974. That earlier open PR also reorganizes agent
configuration. This PR follows the reviewed Storybook designs for agent
creation and the current configuration tabs.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Agent creation, provider connection, runtime tests, and full agent
configuration.

**Current behavior**

The creation dialog leads to a large manual configuration form. Provider
login controls differ from onboarding. Environment variables and secret
access appear in separate places.

**Proposed behavior**

Choose a name and adapter. Connect Claude or Codex through the existing
onboarding controls. Configure and test the runtime, save the agent, and
open a task dialog with that agent assigned. Use the same design on the
existing configuration tabs.

**Reason and benefit**

The first setup asks for fewer decisions. The full editor keeps
instructions, skills, runtime controls, secret access, permissions,
keys, and revisions available in clear sections.

**Breaking changes**

The board creation and configuration layouts change. The
test-environment API adds an optional, allowlisted `testCredentials`
field for one-shot probes. Database contracts stay the same. Native ACPX
tests now reject unsupported local platforms before a CLI login can mask
the runtime restriction.

## What Changed

- Added a new-agent wizard with numbered steps, adapter branding,
provider connections, editable model choices, runtime tests, and
confirmation.
- Added Codex app-server, Claude ACPX, and OpenCode runner choices.
- Stored API credentials through existing secret APIs and persisted
references in agent configuration. New setup keys are isolated from
credentials used by existing agents.
- Preserved external-agent invitations beside the wizard, including
optional messages, one-time prompts, and clipboard fallback.
- Added OpenRouter provider and secret bindings for Pi and OpenCode.
- Added adapter-specific prerequisite fields for Cursor, Gemini, Kimi,
and Hermes. Cursor Cloud keys are saved as new organization secrets.
- Fixed Cursor Cloud repository field mapping, omitted empty remote
environment values, and added useful model and repository error
messages.
- Preserved complete MCP assignments when multiple valid profiles
contain more than 250 tools in total. Generated profiles retain exact
tool selectors.
- Added service branding and deployment-aware adapter choices. Cloud
setup offers Claude, Codex, and OpenCode; local native runners require
the experimental setting.
- Made the agent list responsive at intermediate widths.
- Applied the reviewed design to the real agent configuration pages.
Kept the instruction editor, skills, and existing mutations.
- Combined secret access and environment variables under one Save and
Discard action.
- Added interactive Storybook screens for setup, configuration,
confirmation, authentication, and test results.
- Fixed Pi provider-error parsing and thinking-effort persistence.
Native ACPX validates Linux x64 on the actual local, SSH, or sandbox
target.
- Redacted the complete transient probe-credential field from HTTP error
logs, including rejected provider names.

## Verification

- Current head `df0292fe6` has a fresh Greptile 5/5 review with no
unresolved findings. All 31 executed CI checks passed, including the
aggregate verification gate and all browser E2E shards. Storybook visual
regression is skipped by its workflow; the local Storybook build passed.

- Browser tests completed real assigned tasks with direct Codex, Claude,
OpenCode, Pi, and native Codex.
- Verified external-agent invitation generation and automatic prompt
copying in the live browser.
- Pi and OpenCode used an existing OpenRouter secret. Browser checks
covered save and reload, instruction edits, skill selection,
environment-variable Save and Discard, and assigned task creation.
- Invalid Claude API credentials remained on the connection step with an
error. A live Pi/OpenRouter invalid-key probe returned a provider
failure and left the user-secret inventory unchanged (zero entries
before and after).
- Full workspace typecheck and build passed after rebasing onto current
master. After review fixes, server and UI typechecks, token gates, and
the full build passed again. Storybook built successfully.
- All 5,542 local UI tests passed. The Cursor Cloud and Pi adapter
regressions passed all 24 tests. Review regressions passed 69 server
tests and all 18 agent-list tests.
- The local full test command ran 6,971 general server tests
successfully. Editing review fixes during that long run caused nine
tests to use stale modules; fresh isolated runs passed. An unrelated
embedded-Postgres fixture hit the host shared-memory limit; its 15
affected tests passed when the fixture groups ran separately.
- Local workspace groups passed after rerunning 18 CLI tests
sequentially to avoid host database limits and parallel-load timeouts.
The local full command stopped at the general server phase, so
serialized server verification comes from the five passing CI shards.
- Browser testing at 390px confirmed that the agent action menu opens
and the page has no horizontal overflow. CI browser E2E shards passed.
- Review the `Onboarding / New agent` and `Agents / Configuration
refresh` Storybook groups. In the real app, create an agent, run its
connection test, save it, assign a task, and reload its configuration.

## Risks

- This changes the main agent setup and configuration UI. Regression
tests cover routing, persistence, secret bindings, and form actions.
- Native Claude ACPX requires Linux x64. Direct Claude works on macOS.
Remote checks execute a bounded platform probe and reject unsupported or
unverified targets.
- A native OpenCode task reached the provider context limit because of
its tool payload. Its provider connection test passed. Direct OpenCode
completed a task. This existing native execution limit is not fixed
here.
- Claude and Codex connection keys use the existing user-secret store.
Other runtime setup keys use distinct organization secrets. Existing
credentials are never rotated. Probes do not store entered keys. Failed
agent creation removes newly staged credentials.
- Cursor Cloud has not completed a live task. Its authenticated account
still needs GitHub repository access. The live run passed MCP
provisioning, remote environment validation, and explicit Auto model
selection before the repository prerequisite blocked execution.
- Generated runtime MCP profiles can exceed the public profile-edit
request limit. They still contain exact catalog selectors and preserve
permission boundaries.
- No database migration, dependency, lockfile, or workflow changes are
included.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools, shell
execution, and browser automation. The runtime did not expose the exact
model ID or context window size.

Dotta 131f5c4065 feat(runner): add administration and observability (#12641)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Administrators need bounded controls for experimental native
execution.
> - The lower stack adds remote Codex execution and the task workspace.
> - Operators need to configure Codex safely and inspect provider
traces.
> - Unsupported providers must not appear as runnable choices.
> - This pull request adds Codex-only administration and observability.
> - The benefit is a default-off operational surface for production
diagnosis.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #12640.
Refs #12616.
Refs #12352.

**Subsystem affected**

Agent configuration, instance experimental settings, run ledger,
provider trace inspector, and administrator actions.

**Problem or motivation**

The native runner lacks one safe operator surface for Codex permissions,
lifecycle, raw trace capture, and run inspection. The integration branch
also contains provider choices that the production backend cannot
execute yet.

**Proposed solution**

Expose only the qualified Codex controls. Keep Paperclip Developer Mode
and runner preview ingress off by default. Gate raw trace actions by
administrator access and existing trace authorization.

**Alternatives considered**

Exposing unfinished providers would create configurations that fail at
runtime. Always-on tracing would increase sensitive data and storage
risk.

**Roadmap alignment**

This work supports governed Cloud and Sandbox agents and production
diagnostics.

## Stack

- Base PR: #12640.
- Lower PRs: #12639 and #12638.
- This PR contains only its 54-file administration and observability
delta.
- This is the final feature PR in the Codex production stack.

## What Changed

- Added Codex-only Paperclip Runner permission and lifecycle controls.
- Added bounded warm idle configuration.
- Kept the provider field fixed to Codex.
- Added administrator-only one-run raw trace requests.
- Added a persistent future-run raw trace toggle.
- Added trace status, metadata, ledger, and canonical runner inspection.
- Added JSON-RPC request-origin grouping and finalization lineage.
- Restored the stateful PRP transcript parser and focused projection
tests required by trace inspection.
- Added default-off Paperclip Developer Mode.
- Added Honeycomb run links for authorized developer mode.
- Disabled the legacy operational skill for `paperclip_runner`.
- Did not expose OpenCode, ACPX, Pi, Claude Managed, or AWS runner
choices.
- Did not change migrations, workflows, dependencies, or
`pnpm-lock.yaml`.

## Verification

- GitHub Actions will run UI tests, server tests, repository typecheck,
build, browser tests, security, and policy gates.
- Tests cover Codex configuration defaults and bounds, administrator
trace actions, persistent settings, ledger inspection, trace lineage,
and Honeycomb links.
- Existing server trace authorization and retention tests remain the
backend authority.
- Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses
GitHub Actions for this series.
- `git diff --check runner/task-workspace-experience...HEAD` passes.
- The delta contains 54 files.

## Risks

- Raw provider traces can contain sensitive provider data.
- Existing server authorization controls access, reveal, download,
retention, and deletion.
- The UI gates trace actions by administrator access and developer mode.
- All new instance settings remain off by default.
- Fresh Paperclip Runner configuration remains Codex-only.
- Direct adapters and legacy task behavior do not change in this PR.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. The work used high-reasoning agent mode,
repository tools, GitHub tools, and parallel code-audit agents.

DottaandPaperclip dc6fcd1ff1 fix(ui): move agent secret access to searchable secrets tab (#11283)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The agent configuration UI controls each agent and its allowed
secrets.
> - The environment variable editor already has a secret selector with
search and folder navigation.
> - The secret access editor used a basic list and made large secret
stores hard to use.
> - The secret access controls also occupied the main Configuration tab.
> - This pull request reuses the rich selector and moves secret access
to a dedicated Secrets tab.
> - The benefit is one consistent secret selection workflow with clearer
agent configuration navigation.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

The agent detail configuration view and its secret access editor.

**Subsystem affected**

`ui/` — React and Vite board UI.

**Current behavior**

The secret access editor uses a basic select control. It does not
provide the search and folder navigation available in the environment
variable editor. The editor also appears inside the Configuration tab.

**Proposed behavior**

The secret access editor uses the shared secret picker. Users can search
secrets and browse slash-delimited folders. Agent details provide a
dedicated Secrets tab for this editor.

**Reason and benefit**

Large secret stores are slow to scan in a flat list. Reusing one
selector reduces UI differences and makes scoped secret access easier to
manage.

**Breaking changes**

None. The API and saved secret access data do not change.

## What Changed

- Reused the environment variable secret picker in the agent secret
access editor.
- Preserved secret version selection and the create-secret action,
including nested-popover focus handling.
- Added a route-backed Secrets tab to agent details and removed secret
access controls from Configuration.
- Guarded unsaved configuration across tab, link, browser-history, and
action-triggered navigation.
- Rechecked dirty state when navigation-producing agent actions finish,
covering edits made while a request is pending.
- Added component, page, and Storybook coverage for the workflow.

## Verification

- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run
src/components/AgentActionButtons.test.tsx
src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx
src/components/AgentSecretAccessEditor.test.tsx
src/components/environment-variables-editor/EnvironmentVariablesEditor.test.tsx
src/pages/AgentDetail.progress.test.ts` — 82 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`
- `pnpm check:token-gates`
- All GitHub PR checks passed on `5209c5b787`, including build, canary,
general and serialized tests, and all three e2e shards.
- Greptile completed at 5/5 with zero unresolved review threads.

## Risks

- Low risk. The API and persisted binding format are unchanged; this
changes agent configuration navigation and secret selection UI.
- Dirty-state guards now cover direct navigation, Back/Forward history,
and navigation-producing agent actions, including pending-request races.
- Tests cover tab separation, secret access updates, search, folder
navigation, focus restoration, and navigation rejection.
- No documentation change is required because commands, contracts, and
setup steps do not change.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex with GPT-5. This runtime did not expose a more specific
model ID or context window. The model used agentic reasoning, repository
tools, and code execution.

DottaandPaperclip 1fa36be353 fix(ui): use HTTP-safe clipboard copy everywhere (#10875)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Operators often open self-hosted Paperclip over plain HTTP on a LAN
or private network.
> - Browser Clipboard API writes are not reliable in that insecure
context.
> - Paperclip already has one shared helper with a legacy copy fallback,
but many current copy actions bypass it.
> - This pull request routes every core UI copy action and the
first-party workspace-diff plugin through the shared helper.
> - The benefit is consistent copy behavior on HTTPS, localhost, and
plain-HTTP private deployments.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #3529.

This change supersedes the stale prior attempt in #3531. Current master
has more copy surfaces and a first-party plugin UI bridge that the prior
branch does not cover.

## What Changed

- Replaced direct Clipboard API writes and duplicate fallback
implementations across the current core UI with `copyTextToClipboard`.
- Added an HTTP-safe clipboard function to the plugin UI SDK and wired
the host bridge to the same implementation.
- Migrated the first-party workspace-diff plugin to the plugin SDK
clipboard function.
- Added unit coverage for native rejection fallback and plugin host
delegation.
- Added a source-level regression test that rejects new direct clipboard
writes outside the shared implementation.
- Documented the plugin UI clipboard function.

## Verification

- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ...` for 14 affected suites: 164
tests passed.
- `pnpm exec vitest run tests/ui-clipboard.test.ts` in
`packages/plugins/sdk`: 1 test passed.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r typecheck`: passed for 31 workspace projects.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm test:run`: passed.
- `NODE_ENV=production pnpm build`: passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed with all gates clean.

## Risks

Low risk. Secure contexts still use the modern Clipboard API. Plain HTTP
and rejected modern writes use the existing `execCommand("copy")`
fallback. That API is deprecated, but it is the compatibility path
required for insecure contexts. The change has no schema, API, or visual
design effect.

with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`. The runtime did not expose a context-window
size. Reasoning, tool use, repository editing, test execution, and
GitHub CLI access were enabled.

Devin FoleyandPaperclip 4c8d92f086 fix(ui): leave agent detail after termination (#10451)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The agent detail page lets operators inspect one agent and run
lifecycle actions from that context
> - Terminated agents are removed from the normal active-agent surface,
so the current detail route may no longer be fetchable after termination
> - Before this change, terminating an agent from its detail page
invalidated agent queries while leaving the browser on the now-stale
detail route
> - That refetch could surface an "Agent not found" error even though
the terminate action itself succeeded
> - The shared action button already owns the terminate mutation, so it
can notify detail-page callers when termination succeeds
> - This pull request redirects the detail page back to the agents list
after a successful terminate action
> - The benefit is that operators land on a valid route and the Back
button does not return them to the stale terminated-agent detail route

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No direct public GitHub issue or PR was found for this detail-page
termination flow.

### What happened?

After terminating an agent from its detail page, the UI could remain on
that agent's detail route and show an "Agent not found" error after
query invalidation/refetch.

### Expected behavior

Once termination succeeds, the operator should leave the now-stale
detail page and land on a valid agents view.

### Steps to reproduce

1. Open a non-built-in agent detail page.
2. Use the overflow actions menu to terminate the agent.
3. Observe the post-termination route/error state.

### Paperclip version or commit

Current `master` before this PR.

### Deployment mode

Browser UI behavior, independent of a specific deployment mode.

Duplicate search: searched public GitHub issues and PRs for `agent not
found terminate`, `terminate agent detail`, and `Agent not found`; no
direct duplicate or viable in-flight PR was found.

## What Changed

- Added an optional `onTerminateSuccess` callback to
`AgentActionButtons`, fired only after the shared terminate mutation
succeeds.
- Wired `AgentDetail` to replace-navigate to `/agents/all` after
successful termination.
- Extended `AgentActionButtons` coverage for the terminate success path,
including API args, callback payload, and query invalidations.

## Verification

- `corepack pnpm exec vitest run
ui/src/components/AgentActionButtons.test.tsx`
- `corepack pnpm check:token-gates`
- `git diff --check origin/master..HEAD`
- Local diff scan for obvious tokens, credential filenames, and email
addresses found no matches.

## Risks

Low risk. The new callback is optional, only fires for successful
terminate actions, and preserves existing behavior for other
`AgentActionButtons` callers.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent (`gpt-5`), tool use enabled for
repository inspection, editing, local verification, and GitHub CLI
operations. Context window details were not exposed by the runtime.

DottaandPaperclip 8b6a06ee25 [codex] Add built-in agents and Reflection Coach bundle (#9206)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Operators need first-party agent capabilities for repeatable company
work, not just manually created one-off agents.
> - Built-in agents need to behave like normal company-scoped agents
while preserving approval gates, permissions, budgets, and audit trails.
> - Reflection and coaching work also needs bundled instructions, skill
content, and a routine so the feature can be installed and reset
predictably.
> - The API, database, UI, portability, and tests all need to agree on
the built-in lifecycle from not provisioned through setup, approval,
ready, paused, and reset.
> - This pull request adds built-in agent provisioning and the
Reflection Coach bundle end-to-end.
> - The benefit is a safer first-party path for Paperclip-managed agents
without bypassing the same governance model used for operator-created
agents.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

No public GitHub issue was found for this exact built-in agent and
Reflection Coach bundle work.

Problem/motivation:
- Paperclip did not have a first-party built-in agent lifecycle for
product-owned agents.
- Bundled agent resources such as default instructions, skills, and
routines needed managed ownership and reset semantics.
- Approval-gated companies needed built-in setup to preserve requested
adapter, budget, manager, and permission state through board approval.
- The board UI needed clear built-in badges, setup affordances,
readiness state, and bundle status without exposing secrets.

Proposed solution:
- Add a company-scoped built-in agent registry,
provisioning/reset/reconcile/status APIs, and Reflection Coach bundled
resources.
- Track bundled managed resources in the database with idempotent
migration behavior.
- Reuse existing agent approval, authorization, budget, and activity-log
paths instead of creating a bypass.
- Add UI setup, badges, gates, bundle panels, and route coverage for
built-in agents.

Duplicate search:
- Searched GitHub PRs for `built-in agents Reflection Coach
repo:paperclipai/paperclip`; only this PR was returned.
- Searched GitHub issues for the same query; no public issues were
returned.

## What Changed

- Added built-in agent definitions, lifecycle state derivation,
provisioning, reset, reconcile, status, and routine-control routes.
- Added the `built_in_managed_resources` migration and schema exports
for bundled instructions, skill, and routine ownership.
- Added the Reflection Coach built-in bundle with default instructions,
skill catalog content, routine template, default permissions, and
managed-resource drift handling.
- Added approval-aware provisioning behavior that preserves requested
adapter config, budgets, manager assignment, and built-in permissions
through hire approval.
- Added authorization and mutation gates for built-in agent and skill
changes, including consented Reflection Coach change paths.
- Added UI surfaces for built-in agent setup, roster/detail badges,
readiness gates, bundle status, routine controls, and route filtering.
- Added company import/export and validator coverage for built-in
managed resources and low-trust/red-team presets.
- Addressed Greptile follow-ups for pending approval reconciliation,
consent-gate error propagation, config-read authorization fallback,
approval-path manager preservation, and non-model adapter provisioning.

## Verification

Local verification:
- `git diff --check public/master..HEAD` passed.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` passed with all gates clean.
- `pnpm exec vitest run
ui/src/components/ConfigureBuiltInAgentModal.test.tsx` passed: 1 file, 4
tests.
- `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/EntityRow.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx ui/src/components/BuiltInAgentGate.test.tsx
ui/src/components/ConfigureBuiltInAgentModal.test.tsx
ui/src/components/BuiltInBundlePanel.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/InstanceExperimentalSettings.test.tsx
ui/src/pages/Routines.test.tsx` passed: 7 files, 64 tests.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run
src/__tests__/built-in-agents.test.ts
src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts
src/__tests__/company-skills-routes.test.ts` passed: 3 files, 91 tests.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` passed after the rebase; `pnpm --filter ui
typecheck` passed after the final UI review fix.

Remote verification on latest head
`1c61f693a4ec881d739022b0e75a8ca8bf8c2cd8`:
- Merge state: `CLEAN`.
- Greptile: `5/5`, zero unresolved Greptile threads.
- PR check rollup: all checks successful, neutral, or skipped as
expected.
- Passing gates include Build, Typecheck + Release Registry, all server
shards, all workspace shards, all serialized server suites, e2e, Canary
Dry Run, policy, review, verify, Socket, Superagent, and Snyk.

## Risks

- This adds a new managed-resource table and migration; the migration
uses idempotent create/add/index guards and passed migration safety
checks.
- Built-in agent provisioning touches approval and authorization paths;
tests cover pending approval preservation, stale retry rejection,
consent gates, and config-read fallback behavior.
- Reflection Coach creates managed instructions, skill, and routine
resources; drift/reset behavior is covered by service tests and redacted
API responses.
- Non-model adapter setup now provisions a `needs_setup` built-in row
before command/endpoint fields are complete; this matches the server
lifecycle and is covered by the setup modal regression test.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5. Exact hosted model ID,
context-window size, and reasoning-mode labels are not exposed in this
runtime; tool use, shell execution, GitHub CLI/API access, and local
code editing were enabled.

Dotta 2d1b531a49 [codex] Add clear-error agent action (#7695)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI
agents for work.
> - Agent runtime state is surfaced in both the server API and the board
UI so operators can tell whether an agent is idle, running, paused, or
in error.
> - When an agent is already in `error`, the existing pause/resume
action slot is not useful because there is no running work to pause.
> - Operators need a direct, audited recovery path that clears the stale
error state only for agents in the same company.
> - This pull request adds a company-scoped clear-error mutation,
exposes the shared API contract, and wires the board action cluster to
show Clear error in the pause/resume slot for errored agents.
> - The benefit is that operators can recover CEO/CTO-style errored
agents without resorting to database edits or unrelated session reset
actions.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #4021

Paperclip issue: PAP-10515 — right now the CEO and CTO agents are in
error state, but there is no way to clear the error; they appear
otherwise fine.

## What Changed

- Added shared constants, API path, and agent status type support for a
company-scoped clear-error action.
- Added the server service and route to clear an agent from `error` back
to `idle`, with company access enforcement and activity logging.
- Added OpenAPI/docs coverage for the clear-error endpoint.
- Added backend coverage for service behavior and cross-tenant
authorization.
- Updated the board agent action cluster to show a red-tinted Clear
error button only when `agent.status === "error"`.
- Updated agent properties to show a red active last-error indicator
only while the agent is currently errored.
- Added UI component tests for the error-state action and the non-error
pause/resume behavior.

## Verification

Local:

- `pnpm exec vitest run
server/src/__tests__/agents-service-clear-error.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/agent-cross-tenant-authz-routes.test.ts
ui/src/components/AgentActionButtons.test.tsx`
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck`
- `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts`

PR checks:

- Main Paperclip workflow is green on
`a7378e584d50594e7bd507a1a02985bfaaa5abf8`.
- Greptile is 5/5 with no files requiring special attention and no new
comments on the latest review.
- `commitperclip PR Review` is still red because its security-gate step
canceled after filing a draft advisory; the linked `security-review`
check is neutral and says the draft advisory is not a merge block.

Visual artifact:

comparison](https://gist.githubusercontent.com/cryppadotta/59378c59869b971e92d3edf7b7073aa8/raw/clear-error-visual-comparison.svg)

## Risks

Low to medium risk. The mutation is intentionally narrow, but reviewers
should check that clearing `lastError`/`lastRunError` and returning to
`idle` is the desired recovery semantics for every adapter state. The
remaining red check is from the external commitperclip security-review
workflow, not from the code/test workflow for this PR.

DottaandPaperclip 71a8464fee [codex] prevent invalid agents from receiving assignments and runs (#7663)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - The control plane owns agent lifecycle, issue assignment, routine
dispatch, heartbeat wakeups, and recovery paths
> - Terminated, paused, pending-approval, or otherwise invalid agents
should not receive new work or new execution attempts
> - The old behavior left eligibility checks spread across routes and
services, so assignment and run paths could drift apart
> - This pull request centralizes agent lifecycle eligibility and
applies it consistently to assignment, invocation, routines, recovery,
and UI affordances
> - The benefit is safer autonomy: terminated agents stay paused,
invalid org-chain agents are surfaced, and active agents keep receiving
valid work

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #5103
Related: #1864

Bug fix context:
- What happened: agent assignment and heartbeat/run paths did not share
one eligibility contract, so invalid lifecycle states could still be
considered in some paths.
- Expected behavior: terminated agents must never receive new
assignments or heartbeat runs, and paused or otherwise invalid agents
should be treated as non-invokable consistently.
- Steps to reproduce: create or select an agent in an invalid lifecycle
state, then attempt assignment, routine dispatch, or heartbeat/recovery
wake paths.
- Paperclip version/commit: fixed on top of `paperclipai/paperclip`
`master` at the PR base.
- Deployment mode: applies to the server control plane in local and
authenticated deployments.

## What Changed

- Added shared agent lifecycle eligibility helpers and exported the
related shared types.
- Centralized server-side assignability and invokability checks for
issue assignment, agent routes, heartbeat dispatch, routines, recovery,
and liveness logic.
- Hardened issue assignment so invalid assignees are rejected instead of
queued for work.
- Hardened heartbeat/routine/recovery paths so terminated and otherwise
invalid agents are not woken for new runs.
- Updated board UI affordances to disable invalid agent actions and
surface org-chain warnings where relevant.
- Added targeted shared, server, and UI tests for the new eligibility
behavior.

## Verification

- `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/agent-eligibility.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/agent-invokability.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-archived-company-guard.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issue-liveness.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts
server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts
ui/src/lib/company-members.test.ts ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx` — 8
files, 144 tests passed.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter
@paperclipai/server typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui
typecheck` — passed.
- Checked the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or
`.github/workflows` changes.
- Checked `ROADMAP.md`; this is a targeted control-plane safety fix and
does not duplicate a planned core feature.
- Searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs/issues; closest related
items are linked above.
- CI and Greptile verification are pending on the opened PR and will be
followed up before requesting merge.

## Risks

Low to moderate risk. The intended behavioral shift is that invalid
agents are refused earlier and more consistently, which could expose
existing data with paused, pending, terminated, or broken org-chain
assignees. The added tests cover the critical assignment, heartbeat,
routine, recovery, shared helper, and UI paths. No database migrations
are included.

> For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and
discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap
with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap
first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-5 Codex via the Paperclip `codex_local` adapter, with
shell/git/GitHub CLI tool use. Reasoning mode and context window are
managed by the adapter runtime and not exposed in this environment.

eaef47f4c7 Information Architecture + project/agent visual refresh (experimental) (#7543)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The board UI is the control surface for issues, projects, agents,
goals, workspaces, and operator settings.
> - The existing navigation and list surfaces make several
high-frequency workflows feel harder to scan than they should,
especially around projects and agents.
> - The product direction is to improve those surfaces without breaking
the existing route model or forcing a new IA on every operator at once.
> - This pull request now keeps the dependent IA, project identity, and
agent-list visual refresh work together while the Issue-to-Task copy
migration is split into #7651.
> - The benefit is a clearer left nav, better project identity, denser
agent/project list rows, and brand-aligned status treatment while
preserving the classic default experience behind a flag.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

PAP-80, PAP-85, PAP-86, PAP-87, PAP-88, PAP-89.

## What Changed

- Adds `enableStreamlinedLeftNavigation`, defaulting off, and gates
sidebar presentation so classic navigation remains the default.
- Adds project icon persistence, validation, portability, picker UI, and
`ProjectTile` rendering while defaulting new projects to neutral gray.
- Adds projects-list task-count and budget summary data with focused
server/shared/UI coverage.
- Refreshes agent list rows, row actions, active/recent sidebar
behavior, and status capsule/chip styling for the approved brand state
system.
- Removes the placeholder Conference room and Artifacts nav/routes from
the finalized experimental nav direction.
- Removes `pnpm-lock.yaml` and the Issue-to-Task copy migration from
this PR diff; the copy migration now lives in #7651.

## Verification

- Existing branch verification from the authored commits: UI typecheck,
targeted unit tests, and light/dark visual checks for `/agents`, agent
detail, and design-guide status states.
- Maintainer cleanup verification on `75e34e5`: `git diff --check
origin/master...HEAD` passed, the `design/` diff is empty, and the PR
diff is 61 files, below Greptile's 100-file review limit.
- `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed.
- `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run
ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx` passed: 1 file, 8 tests.
- CI and Greptile should rerun on the latest push.

## Risks

- Broad UI surface area: the experimental flag keeps the classic nav
default, but changed shared components such as `EntityRow`,
`ProjectTile`, and agent status badges could affect multiple pages.
- Database migration: `projects.icon` is additive and nullable, but
migration ordering and portability import/export must stay aligned.
- The Issue-to-Task copy migration is now separated into #7651, so
reviewers should evaluate this PR as IA/project/agent presentation work
only.
- Visual regressions are possible across smaller widths because the PR
intentionally changes dense list-row layouts.

## Model Used

Claude Opus 4.8 assisted the original feature commits.
Paperclip-Paperclip agents assisted some planning/design commits. Codex
/ GPT-5-class coding agent with shell, GitHub CLI, and repository access
performed this PR-readiness cleanup and split.
