DottaandPaperclip 1f55073f96 fix(cursor-cloud): support API-only controllers on managed stacks (#18310)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work.
> - Cursor Cloud hosts execution behind its API.
> - Product setup still expected a Paperclip Computer.
> - Managed-only tenants therefore rejected valid setup.
> - This admits the validated API-owned controller.
> - Authority, Stop proof, budgets and cleanup remain enforced.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #18068 and #18069; both dependencies have merged.

**What happened?**

Managed-only setup still requested a Computer. Live tests exposed
missing Cursor Stop proof and duplicate replay.

**Expected behavior**

Use Cursor’s API controller. Verify provider/controller termination and
replay each log identity once.

**Steps to reproduce**

Enable native Runner/managed-only. Configure Cursor model/repository/key
without a Computer, then Test, finish setup, run and Stop.

## What Changed

- Derive API-only placement from validated native Cursor configuration;
reject placement/command/workspace/home overrides and keep
Kubernetes-only execution closed.
- Skip Computers/checkout/workspace realization. Keep scoped tools,
completion, private staging, budgets, leases and recovery. Persist
placement; reject contradictions.
- Align Cloud cards, Test, Save and Finish setup; hold unready drafts.
Legacy keeps its Computer, credential and policy checks.
- Verify Stop from exact API ownership, audited intent,
provider-terminal proof, no Computer/process ownership and controller
retirement. Recheck immediate/deferred retirement; wake existing
recovery on durable evidence.
- Clear warnings when the actual stopped target later has authoritative
confirmation. Keep missing/other-run negatives and the existing
predicate.
- Publish safe status refresh after full-proof ACK. Retain bounded
native/physical cancellation history; add no poller or weaker proof
path.

## Verification

Core merged as `3910352c923a`; Product merged as `27d35314be8e`. Public
branch `5f86eb66b081` has tree `67344151d303`. Its exact-head Greptile
summary is 5/5; the fresh audit found zero unresolved threads and
complete pagination. The controlled workspace retry and required summary
passed. All 59 current-head contexts are terminal and clean. Prior
green-36 evidence keeps its identity.

[Current
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41680511731)
first failed workspaces-a 1/2: the CLI company-import/export beforeAll
30-second runtime-info/child-PID/HTTP readiness wait expired. All 431 UI
files/4,714 tests and 285 other CLI tests passed (one skip). The cause
remains UNKNOWN. Child output records startup recovery complete, but
buffered CI prefixes do not establish its relation to the waiter
deadline; runtime-file/PID/last-health state was not captured. Both
unchanged local probes were RED. The second observed dependency
preflight still pending at the deadline; observer overhead was not
quantified. Neither proves the CI cause. After all functional jobs
finished, only the queued metadata summary was cancelled; the other 48
records stayed unchanged. Attempt 1 retains 46 successes, the original
failure, one skip and the cancelled summary. One same-head debug retry
was admitted at 18:42 UTC on November 3. Its workspace job passed at
19:23 UTC on the same checkout: UI 431 files/4,714 tests and CLI 33
files/286 tests, including company import/export. Test caching was
disabled. The new `ci / verify` summary passed; workflow attempt 2
completed SUCCESS. Required `ci / e2e` also passed. The final check at
19:53 UTC on November 3 found all 59 current-head contexts terminal and
clean: zero pending and zero failing. The 47 inherited completed/skipped
rows are not new executions. No code, assertion or timeout changed;
success does not explain the original failure or erase the local REDs.

CI checkout is `1ea9d8608ced`/tree `78cb1ec13d59` (parents
`2e37c73c05fe`, 5f86); both workflows use 2e37. Its 20 extra paths add
low-memory build/Rust task-memory. Scripts cohere; later matrix changes
only labels, with no newer debug-cache steps. Static audit found no
blocker. Supported API arguments omit the memory flag: no default
monitor/instruction changes. Flagged external launchers can change
Cursor instructions/digests and remain unqualified.

The merge added 41 master-identical paths, retained the green-36 inbox
hunk and found UI fixtures matching upstream. Startup/backup, recovery
projection, sleep diagnostics and binary backup change production.
Static audit found eight Stop/ACK owner blobs and 37 sleep-work SQL
templates unchanged, with sleep fences/single-flight accounting intact.
Exact precommit tree: 416/416 across eight server files, binary backup
1/1, server types PASS; repeated scopes are not summed.

The deferred-retirement P1 reproduced three real-DB/owned-process
failures; missing proof stayed unverified. Recovery passed 47 process
cases/33 proof negatives. Warning repair binds actual targets to
same-run proof. Validation passed 729 scoped UI cases, a separate
359-case thread run, 111 backend cases (84 CAS, 6 assembled, 21
activity/privacy), types/tokens. Proof validators/predicate are
unchanged; no new poller or increased timeout.

The d8d3 attempt stays FAILED: 45 passes, two workspaces-a failures,
derived verify failure and one skip. Both shards shared three failures:
two successful mocks omitted the account guard’s required userId. The
two-line fixture repair changed no guard, assertion or timeout. Three
failures reproduced; 54 access/auth tests then passed, including
account-change/denial negatives, plus UI types/tokens.

The 69285 attempt stays FAILED: 49 jobs, 46 passed, serialized shard 9
failed, its verify aggregate failed and one selection job skipped. The
shard passed 575/576 cases. Its aborted-snapshot case expected nine
computes but saw eight: a final HTTP 200 coalesced while seven ordinary
reads had not proved the aborted compute settled. Earlier CI and the
unmodified local baseline passed with a miss; no local RED is claimed.
The repair awaits the snapshot, allows exactly one extra GET if
coalesced, then requires a miss and retains nine computes/all HTTP429
assertions. No production code, hook, loop, sleep or timeout changed.
Six inbox and seven cache/admission cases passed locally, plus server
types; 30 unrelated cases were filtered. Green 36 passed 576/576 without
taking the extra-GET branch; local runs also missed that schedule.
Current CI event merge 1ea9 now passed 576/576 and naturally exercised
the former failure: coalesced (count 2, 1ms), then exactly one fresh
miss (count 1, 16ms), with strict nine-compute/HTTP429 assertions
intact. No instrumentation or retry was added.

Earlier compatibility passed scoped remote/inbox, routine, API-placement
and UI tests, plus types/migrations/snapshots/maps/tokens. The 89-path
adoption restored fleet routing without workflow overrides or added
skips. Each result retains its source identity.

Live qualification remains actual `9af1a5de42a2`: unchanged Artifact
grader PASSED 17/17 and active-Stop grader PASSED 21/21. All three
provider test resources were deleted canonically with GET404;
post-delete download returned the exact 27 bytes. Histories stayed
stable (Artifact 121 and Stop 67 canonical identities), with 21 company
runs, zero active work and no accounting/cancellation/reservation debt
or integrity findings. Saved settings reopened; no-prompt Test/Linux
admission passed with `claude-sonnet-4-5`. No new Save is claimed.

The first Stop sampling case stays FAILED on a 10.373-second gap.
Unchanged retry kept all 24 samples: 35.076 seconds quiet, maximum gap
4.584 seconds, plus a separate CANCELLED/artifact-absent read after 180
seconds. Initial grading rejected locator spelling before functional
checks; metadata changed only after same-file/inode/byte proof, with raw
evidence/oracles unchanged. Original Question/Plan/reconnect and
historical deleted-artifact results keep their identities.

Git trees verified 11 history-only conflicts and six earlier mainline
paths. Hosted 9af to the public BRANCH differs in 222 paths; 13,500
other mode/blob leaves match. Runner runtime implementations and six
observer/driver pins match 9af on that branch only; inherited
`drivers/acpx/runtime-host.test.ts` differs. No all-Runner/src,
CI/latest-master runtime or image equality is claimed. Later static
audits through `8ab89f41e499` found no concrete API-only blocker. That
base adds completed-history sleep proofs and an MCP cleanup migration;
protected Stop/ACK owners are unchanged. These later changes are outside
this CI and have no live qualification here. Host duplicate-card and
later recovery/UI repairs retain separate proof, not deployed 9af
identity. Direct-key coverage requires absent aiConnection; API-only
placement skips inherited remote-workspace disk-full paths, and
config-read gates match their parent.

Other retained failures: stale fixture 132/133; E8 48/135 with 87
reset-hook failures; Mac 17 SQL failures/skips;
title/startup/custody/Stop/deletion unknown causes and bounded
recoveries; superseded warning/50 duplicate identities; pre-repair
ACK/Core CI failures. Fixture RED/GREEN passed 7/7 browser and 121/121
shutdown tests with a failing broken-unsubscribe control; stable WSP
wrapper passed 128 after physical teardown failure. No full local-suite
pass is inferred. All paid attempts remain recorded; vendor dollar cost
is UNKNOWN.

## Risks

Experimental: Cursor independently acknowledges neither the effective
model nor instruction digest before the first prompt. Explicit values
are submitted and behavior checked live; unpriced provider dollar cost
stays UNKNOWN.

The placement exception applies only to validated native Cursor API
execution. Other local work remains denied under managed-only policy.
Missing/stale Stop or cleanup proof stays pending; damaged archives
remain failed. Explicit Legacy keeps its existing policy owners.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex/GPT-6 family: tools, execution, browser checks, delegated
review. API ID/context window unavailable.

DottaandPaperclip 27d35314be feat: connect experimental Cursor Cloud to native Runner (#18069)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents at work.
> - Native Runner owns execution and task authority.
> - Operators need an explicit native Cursor Cloud choice.
> - Tools/files need company, task, session and run scope.
> - This connects setup and lifecycle to Runner Core.
> - Legacy agents retain their selected runtime/history.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Depends on #18068. Managed-only API placement and API-owned Stop
containment are in #18310. Refs #5664, #11803, #17299, and #17471. No
duplicate native integration was found.

## What Changed

- Add explicit native setup, Test, saved settings and dispatch with
no-prompt account/catalog/callback checks.
- Scope MCP to company, agent, task, session and run through
authenticated HTTPS. Register verified artifacts/work products; preserve
unpriced accounting, completion and budgets.
- Connect Question/Plan continuation, cold handoff and admitted fresh
sessions; recheck waiting admission under the task lock.
- Present audited Stop intent while preserving physical containment
proof; bound typed Stop metadata. Preserve title edits through
preference/navigation readiness.
- Select one live/history representation per run to prevent duplicate
settled cards. Integrate upstream task/read-state/retry/schema contracts
and repair two test fixtures.

## Verification

Core #18068 merged normally as `3910352c923a`. Product head
`5a60f541c982` has passing repository CI/build/browser checks, including
required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, plus a fresh exact-head Greptile
5/5 review with zero unresolved threads. Two non-required external app
checks remain pending: Paperclip Review is queued waiting for its
assigned agent; Superagent Security Scan is reviewing the diff. These
are not claimed completed. The normal merge endpoint enforces the
repository rules; no policy or status override is used. The dependent
Top PR is addressing its fresh deferred-Stop review finding.

Product `5a60f541c982` passed 270 UI and 20 selected
Cloud/native/disk-full tests, UI/server typechecks, tokens and maps.
Top’s clean normal merge passed tokens/maps/diff checks; its matrix is
pending. Earlier receipts retain Core’s 47 Rust, 4 compiled-native
retirement and 19 settlement controls, normal Runner build, and runtime
9af build/recursive typecheck. Reproduced loading/shutdown CI fixture
failures passed 7/7 browser and 121/121 unit tests, including a
broken-unsubscribe negative control. No timeout/oracle was relaxed.

The actual-parent restack adopts 75 mainline paths, including
schema/permission and generic runtime changes, beyond the prior two
fixture repairs and client projection fix. The full difference from
hosted `9af1a5de42a2` is therefore larger than four files; backend
source also differs. The merged config-read checks match Core391, and
the Cursor placement/runtime/relay/selection modules match frozen9af;
selected affected regressions pass. Paid proof keeps its actual 9af
source/image identity. The separately tested live/history card fix is
not claimed deployed on that host.

On 9af, original saved settings survived reopening and fresh no-prompt
Test authenticated catalog/model/binding; no new Save is claimed. Fresh
Linux admission passed. With `claude-sonnet-4-5`, Artifact downloaded
exact 27 bytes and matched 121 canonical identities in complete
S3-served history. First Stop’s strict quiet FAILED on a 10.373-second
gap despite independent cancellation/no late artifact. One targeted
unchanged-sampler retry retained all 24 samples: 35.076 seconds quiet /
maximum gap 4.584 seconds, 67 ordered canonical identities, and separate
CANCELLED/artifact-absent status after the original 180-second deadline.
The pre-reload duplicate settled card is disclosed. Exact-ID cleanup for
the three new provider agents is awaiting authorization, so full grades
and the fresh Artifact’s post-cleanup download remain blocked. A
historical deleted-provider artifact was newly downloaded on 9af;
original F226 Question/Plan/reconnect and cleanup proof keep their
identities.

Retained failures: stale fixture 132/133; E8 48/135 with 87 reset-hook
failures; Mac 17 SQL failures/skips; earlier
title/startup/custody/Stop/deletion failures with unknown causes/bounded
recoveries; `dea023` Stop’s warning/50 duplicate identities; pre-repair
ACK and original Core CI failures. WSP’s 251-assertion, 7/8-suite
attempt failed physical PostgreSQL teardown; the unchanged wrapper rerun
passed 128. Retry alone establishes no cause or full local-suite pass.
All paid attempts remain recorded; vendor dollar cost is UNKNOWN.

## Risks

Experimental: Cursor independently acknowledges neither the effective
model nor instruction digest before the first prompt. Explicit values
are submitted and checked through behavior; unpriced provider dollar
cost stays UNKNOWN.

Callbacks need authenticated reachable HTTPS. Scope, revocation,
budgets, completion and cleanup remain authoritative. Operator Stop
intent is separate from physical containment. Saved legacy agents retain
their selected runtime. Prior shared title-save/deletion failures remain
disclosed.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, assisted with reasoning, repository tools,
code execution, browser verification, and delegated code review. The
serving model’s exact API ID and context window are not exposed. No
value is inferred from the model catalog.

DottaandPaperclip 16643a6e03 fix(runner): recover pending Stop cleanup after controller restart (#18682)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The server owns execution, Stop delivery, and usage settlement.
> - A Stop can remain pending when the controller restarts.
> - Recovery must reach the existing session without starting more paid
work.
> - Startup and budget fences currently block that cleanup, and
interrupted runs leave the restart selection.
> - This pull request gives exact audited Stop cleanup a shared
authority check and records its real acknowledgement.
> - The benefit is safe cleanup while usage debt remains honest.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A pending native run-only Stop can retain an unfinished execution owner
after controller loss. Its startup cancellation fence prevents recovery
admission. If teardown marks the run interrupted and clears its task
lock, restart selection also omits it. A recovered session can receive
cancellation without the durable acknowledgement that the normal Stop
request would save.

**Expected behavior**

Recover only the existing remote session for the audited pending Stop.
Keep fresh provider work blocked, including during budget pause. Keep
incomplete usage pending until a real complete receipt arrives.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Start a native run with a held reservation and an authenticated
remote checkpoint.
2. Persist a run-only Stop and its startup and execution cancellation
fences before acknowledgement.
3. Lose the controller. Leave the coordinator unfinished, mark the run
interrupted, and clear its task lock.
4. Attempt restart recovery and observe the missing claim or
cancellation admission rejection.

Related work: #14733 binds caller Stop requests. #18658 handles plugin
startup cleanup obligations. #18035 proposes broader accounting changes.
This change repairs existing-session Stop recovery and preserves current
accounting guards.

## What Changed

- Add one shared check for the exact run, company, issue, pending Stop,
intent audit, live recovery lease, generation, and remote reattachment
disposition.
- Include eligible interrupted Stop owners in restart selection. Keep
generic interruptions and another task execution owner fenced.
- Reuse only the original held reservation for cleanup. Keep budget
pause effective for fresh, bootstrap, dead-runner, and unproven recovery
work.
- Apply the same cleanup authority at heartbeat runtime selection and
native entry. Skip attachment staging and warm-owner retirement only for
that exact cleanup. Revalidate at session publication and fail closed if
the proof changed.
- Send the existing Stop through the audited cancellation producer
before turn submission. Close the coordinator only after
acknowledgement, including system-owned run-only Stops.
- Give verified cleanup a transport purpose that retains pending
semantic inputs without replay, dispatch, or a semantic reply. Add an
explicit Core retain-only intake mode; preserve authenticated identity,
schema, digest, sequence and replay checks. Ordinary execution still
requires its dispatcher.
- Add PostgreSQL, native protocol, and startup-fence regressions. Update
the execution contract and recovery maps.

## Verification

- The combined Stop regression fails on unchanged production at the
cancellation reservation guard. Interrupted restart selection also fails
before the repair while its running sibling passes.
- An assembled `heartbeatService.recoverNativeRunsAfterRestart`
regression exposes the earlier runtime-selection fence with the rest of
the repair present. The fixed path reaches selector/claim, runtime
selection, original held-budget reuse during pause, dispatch, real
native protocol, audited cancellation, and heartbeat settlement. It
starts no provider turn, acquires no new sandbox, and does not reclaim
the task lock.
- Fail-if-called attachment staging and turn boundaries remain
untouched. A retained warm-owner regression prevents retirement.
Invalidation at session publication fails closed. Actual backend/driver
constructor tests verify cleanup-purpose forwarding, absent default
options, and denial under foreign ownership.
- Missing usage retains accounting debt and the hold. A later complete
receipt records one 25-cent charge and settles that same hold.
Concurrent duplicate cleanup is denied. Both user-owned and system-owned
Stops pass.
- Real transport tests: 9 pass on Node 24.22.1. They preserve ordinary
saved-tool and completion recovery, prove the authority-denial race
before cancellation, and qualify cleanup with pending
ordinary/completion inputs and either handler ordering.
- Real authenticated Core intake: 11 pass. Callback-present and
callback-absent retain-only cases persist and acknowledge unanswered
input without dispatch, recovery or result. Default missing-dispatcher
rejection and digest-integrity/suspension guards remain effective.
Omitting the callback alone first failed by disconnecting; the explicit
retain-only mode fixes that defect.
- Repository `pnpm -r typecheck`, the server/runner-vendor build, map
checks, and module boundary checks passed locally before integrating the
latest retained-startup change. That integration passes 11 native
startup/cleanup compatibility cases and 3 assembled recovery/accounting
cases. The final broad affected-suite attempt was stopped without a
verdict; it is incomplete. Full repository tests and build are delegated
to current-head GitHub CI.
- Review exposed an additional real-process close failure with
unanswered input. The corrected path requires a fresh exact
provider-stop receipt confirming exit, followed by durable event drain
and exact runner suspension. All 11 focused transport cases pass,
including missing/false exit-proof negatives and ordinary recovery
siblings. Runner TypeScript and map validation pass after this
correction.
- The assembled test controls provider, workspace-transfer and GitHub
bootstrap I/O. It does not qualify hosted credentials, physical provider
termination, workspace preservation, or historical receipt recovery.
Local socket-permission setup failures are separate from semantic
regression results. No hosted replay has run on this repair.

- CI exposed an ordinary factory-call compatibility regression and an
obsolete authority-read test fixture. The repair preserves
single-argument ordinary calls and updates the race fixture without
changing its Stop assertions. The complete native executor suite now
passes all 1,049 tests; the ordinary factory boundary and all five
Stop-accounting cases pass. A separate local environment-default case
twice exceeded its five-second wait while other work ran; its prior-head
CI case passed. The same unchanged case passed an isolated diagnostic
without changing its assertion or timeout; the precise contention source
remains unproven.

- The final fixture edit initially used the wrong overloaded promise
type. CI rejected it; the annotation-only correction passes the exact
`pnpm run typecheck:build-gaps` entry point locally, including server
service tests and remaining workspaces. No runtime assertion changed.

- Final exact head `007fd4d04a2d6338c6dc073e97ab470a277fc3d0`: required
`ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`, build, typecheck and test groups pass.
Greptile is 5/5 with both findings resolved. Three expected checks are
skipped; the optional native check is neutral, while its final
current-head comment gives 5/5 from source inspection without a checkout
or test execution. The first server-shard attempt lost its self-hosted
runner connection; one scoped rerun passed. Its original annotation and
unavailable-log evidence are retained.

## Risks

- This changes execution authority. Cleanup requires an audited, exactly
bound pending Stop, an unfinished coordinator, a live remote
reattachment claim, and the original held reservation. It never
authorizes a replacement provider turn.
- Missing checkpoint, original held reservation, termination, or usage
evidence can keep cleanup or accounting pending. The repair does not
manufacture acknowledgement, replies, receipts, or zero cost.
- Retain-only intake is an internal trusted constructor option. It
changes no agent tool permission. Ordinary callback requirements and
semantic dispatch remain unchanged.
- No schema, public API, provider profile, or deployment setting changes
are required.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, `gpt-6.1-sol`, Extra High reasoning, with source
inspection, code execution, and regression testing. The context-window
capacity is not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip 7751fc3107 fix(server): complete volume-free controller admission and recovery (#18543)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its volume-free web server must admit remote warm execution without
depending on a local disk.
> - Fresh run rows retain the initial legacy label during workspace
preparation.
> - The native runtime selector commits the execution mode later.
> - The earlier guard rejected valid remote runs before that selection.
> - This PR checks storage during preparation and the resolved lifecycle
during runtime selection.
> - Agent-file recovery also has to reconstruct disposable cache paths
from the retained remote directory.
> - The deployment test removes the complete predecessor home, including
immutable caches, to enforce that contract.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #18518, #18529, #18533.

**What happened?**

A real Codex/Daytona deployment test failed during setup because the
volume-free workspace guard checked the initial run label. After fixing
admission, controller retirement first failed on an immutable skill
cache. Removing that cache exposed a production recovery failure: B
rejected the saved agent-directory path from A, even though the remote
execution identity was unchanged. The next live attempt recovered that
directory and transferred the same runner, but adoption then tried to
recreate provider launch assets from the deleted controller home.

**Expected behavior**

Allow remote workspace preparation before native selection. Reject
actual legacy and per-turn execution at the runtime boundary. Delete the
entire stopped predecessor home, including immutable caches, without
following links to shared dependencies. B must reconstruct its local
agent-file projection from the exact registered remote lease while
preserving the save baseline and unsaved remote edits. Reattaching an
already-running provider must not prepare a new launch or require the
old launch files. The full backend must recover the admitted
instructions from the matching durable run checkpoint.

**Steps to reproduce**

Run the explicit
`rolling-web-deployment.runner-codex.daytona.recover-controller` Product
E2E cell with a complete server/UI build, disposable PostgreSQL/S3, and
an owned Daytona fixture. The new boundary regressions also reproduce
the premature guard and missing runtime rejection without a model call.

**Paperclip version or commit**

The failures were observed on
`247552fe0719dcc92f7b42c50b658be6f624986d`. This branch is based on
`e122478368`.

## What Changed

- Validate Runner and remote workspace authority before runtime
selection without trusting the initial run label.
- Reject resolved legacy execution and local-source fallback, preserving
the native warm-policy check before admission.
- Rebind remote agent-file caches on ephemeral controllers and retrieve
their validated contents without uploading over the retained execution.
Preserve pending saves when the remote collector is unavailable.
- Restore over-quota remote directories without applying save quotas to
run admission; ordinary saves still enforce quotas.
- Skip provider launch asset materialization when adopting an existing
Runner. A real-process regression deletes the old skill/instruction
sources before reattachment.
- Recover admitted system instructions through Runner-owned checkpoint
validation for the same run, session and context digest. Fresh launches
still compose current instructions.
- Make the attention-retention test advance past its database-assigned
deadline, fixing a clean-master clock mismatch.
- Serialize remote collection and cleanup across controllers with an
operation-scoped Postgres advisory lock; fence stale cache-path updates.
- Keep synthetic deployment probe tasks in a separate disposable company
so they cannot block the business completion oracle.
- Share the launcher's directory cleanup with rolling retirement. Reject
a symlink root and skip linked descendants.
- Test admission with real PostgreSQL transactions and cleanup with real
read-only directories and external symlinks.
- Update developer documentation and the canonical qualification record.
Broader deployment acceptance remains in progress.

## Verification

- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed.
- All 156 workspace preparation, runtime selection and ephemeral
contract tests passed. Two new regressions failed before the source fix.
- Seven focused Product E2E cleanup/replacement tests and `pnpm
test:e2e:runner:typecheck` passed.
- `pnpm test:run` stopped at an unrelated 15-second chat integration
timeout after 338 passes. That exact test passed in isolation without
increasing its timeout. The later full-suite shards did not run.
- `pnpm test:e2e:runner:unit` reported 5,898 passes and 13 failures.
Clean master reproduced 11 failures in unchanged onboarding
expectations, operating receipts, Pi catalog assertions, workflow
bootstrap counts and embedded PostgreSQL startup. The other two workflow
assertions were fixed by the intervening master commit. These failures
are retained, not counted as passes.
- All 122 workspace-preparation tests pass after the reviewed
host-fallback fix. The first broader attempt exposed a test environment
leak; restoring the ephemeral flag between cases resolved it.
- Agent-directory and instruction regressions passed 179 tests. Five
focused cache-loss cases pass: different home, same path on an empty
filesystem, foreign lease, concurrent controller, and missing collector.
- The live fixture at `a18f6b85a3` gracefully stopped A and deleted its
entire home, then failed the 420-second remote reattachment deadline on
the saved local agent-directory path. That failure is retained; exact
owned sandbox cleanup was independently confirmed. The next live attempt
at `e14ca5f3e9` restored the cache and transferred the same runner, but
failed while rematerializing launch assets from A. Both failures are
retained and their owned sandboxes confirmed absent. No active-overlap,
ten-deploy, or production-canary acceptance is claimed.
- All 71 related Runner adoption/recovery cases pass, including the new
removed-context regression (failed before the source fix).
- The revised full agent-directory suite passed 110 cases and failed
three cleanup timing cases. All 20 cleanup/cache-loss cases then passed
in isolation with unchanged timeouts, including over-quota recovery.
- Server and Runner TypeScript checks pass after the latest corrections;
the live retry remains pending.

- The live test at `67714af9ff` adopted the same remote execution after
A was deleted, then failed while the full backend read the retired
instruction bundle. All owned sandboxes were independently confirmed
absent. Its regression now passes with actual backend recovery and no
new thread or turn. All 59 backend factory tests and focused checkpoint
identity tests pass. Runner and server TypeScript checks pass; the exact
committed server build passes. A fresh paid-model retry followed.
- The attention-retention CI timeout reproduced on clean master. The
deadline correction passes all 53 tests in that file with unchanged
timeouts.

- The real `cd690de4d3` run transferred the same runner/session after
deleting A, completed, and completed the next revision. During handoff,
372 reads and 38 saves had zero failures; all 38 saves were verified.
The full attempt was interrupted because the probe's open task
contaminated the business company oracle. This remains incomplete
evidence. The scope regression fails before the fixture fix, then
passes; all nine deployment support tests and E2E typecheck pass. All
three owned sandboxes were confirmed absent and temporary
credentials/storage were cleaned up. A clean corrected attempt is
running.

## Risks

- The runtime guard must still reject legacy and per-turn execution
before dispatch. Tests cover these refusals and a valid resolved warm
policy.
- Directory permission changes apply only during cleanup of stopped,
test-owned homes. Traversal does not follow symlinks. This changes no
production cache permissions.
- Cache reconstruction must not change remote execution authority or
rebase the original save baseline. Tests verify foreign-lease rejection,
preserved receipts, and absence of local-to-remote upload.
- Postgres locking is scoped to active remote file work and adds no idle
polling; local/durable-server locking remains unchanged.
- No schema or public API changes. External conversation exemptions
remain unchanged.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, shell execution
and live integration-test tools. The exact runtime model variant and
context-window size are not exposed in this session.

Latest real qualification at f5915fdc33: both empty-home replacements
completed with 523 reads, 53 saves and 53 verified saves, zero probe
failures. The active remote execution survived and completed once; saved
project bytes and the later useful answer passed. The full workflow
remains FAILED: the later continuation reset its native/provider session
and the public run row lacked the native terminal contract. These newly
exposed compatibility/projection gaps are tracked in the next
implementation slice; this PR is not a claim of full Railway
qualification. All owned Daytona sandboxes were independently confirmed
absent after cleanup.

DottaandPaperclip 006d5691a6 feat(server): support volume-free web server handoff (#18518)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Its web server also owns controller admission and user commands.
> - A rolling deployment starts a replacement before the old server
exits.
> - Shared database state alone does not preserve local agent files,
browser chunks, or in-process commands.
> - This pull request adds an opt-in ephemeral server contract and a
local overlap test.
> - The benefit is a web server that can relinquish traffic and local
files without losing acknowledged work.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #18403, #18327, #18335, #18341.

**Current behavior**

The control-plane web server still has local agent-file authority and
local command targets. A new container can miss saved bytes or send a
command to the wrong process. An existing browser tab also needs chunks
from its original build.

**Proposed behavior**

Eligible servers share only PostgreSQL, object storage and stable
secrets. A replacement waits for readiness. The old server drains
admitted requests, keeps owner commands available through handoff, and
releases controller leases. Explicit maintenance adopts existing files
before the volume is removed.

**Reason and benefit**

This is the application prerequisite for rolling app-only deployments.
Schema migrations and permanent multi-replica operation are outside this
change.

## What Changed

- Store agent-file manifests in PostgreSQL and immutable bytes in S3.
Treat local roots as disposable projections. Preserve existing
permission checks and edit conflicts.
- Add an explicit migration, eligibility and object-retention command to
the production runtime bundle.
- Add `/api/ready`, admitted-request drain, browser restart signaling
and retained immutable UI chunks.
- Carry transaction-aware work hints across controllers during handoff
and active execution. Keep listeners closed when idle.
- Deliver durable Stop and runtime responses to the execution owner.
Recheck request lifecycle and access before response dispatch.
- Reject local-only configuration in ephemeral mode. Keep the feature
disabled for existing installations by default.
- Add an isolated PostgreSQL/S3/proxy/browser deployment harness with
independent server homes and retained failure evidence.

## Verification

- All CI checks pass on `ce17b95019d3cf1cabd357d19b6d37f96782cc5c`:
workspace typecheck, build, Runner checks, server/general tests and
browser shards. Greptile reviewed the runtime changes at 5/5 with all
findings resolved; the final commit updates maps and the plan.
- Local targeted checks passed: coordinator 27; Stop/recovery 33;
PostgreSQL command delivery 6; route/workspace regressions 8; bootstrap
Stop 1; restart recovery 75. PostgreSQL command tests simulate the
provider edge.
- Local browser proof passed 91 reads and 19 saves; reconnect took
1,013ms. The tab opened Audit from S3 after deletion of A's whole
home/build. This uses compiled workspace code and local-trusted auth,
not released containers or live agents.
- Local workspace typecheck/build passed; current server and runtime
bundle passed. The earlier broad local suite was stopped after three
hours and is not a passing receipt. Its retained failures and isolated
reruns are documented in the plan.
- Stacked #18526 adds stricter graceful-exit proof, an unready
replacement control, live Runner qualification and a Stop handoff
correction. Hosted enablement remains gated on those results and Cloud
#1096. No hosted stack has been enabled.

## Risks

- Apply migration 0422 before enabling the feature. Existing data must
pass each owner's migration and eligibility checks. Do not discard a
volume based on a single migration page.
- Durable manifests remain authoritative after the opt-in is disabled.
Rolling back to a binary that ignores them is unsupported.
- Cold directory restoration and complete shutdown timing still need
qualification before enabling a hosted stack.
- Retained UI assets must cover the supported browser and rollback
window. Cleanup is explicit; no new idle maintenance polling is
introduced.
- This change does not claim production zero downtime or authorize a
fleet-wide enablement.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and
context-window limit are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning,
code editing, shell execution and browser automation.

DottaandPaperclip 5e4cc01073 feat(workspaces): keep remote files off the webserver disk (#18403)
Keep native sandbox workspace files independent of the webserver disk. Use encrypted saved versions and Postgres ownership so a replacement server can recover files and continue work. Enable the path by default for new eligible workspaces when durable storage is configured.

Preserve explicit opt-outs and existing host workspaces. Include safe snapshot repair, Files access, import, migration and retention. Bound saved-Files resources, preserve imported Git recovery, reject unfinished Git operations, publish immutable concurrent captures, and verify permanent object-version deletion.

Validated 471 targeted local controls, build/typechecks, all 40 CI partitions, fresh Greptile 5/5 and security review. The PR records original failed attempts and scoped retries.

DottaandPaperclip 2aa3ea47e3 Reduce restored workspace overhead and trace cache publication (#18240)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip runs agents in isolated workspaces.
> - A native sandbox turn must restore its workspace before the provider
starts.
> - Restored Git metadata can cause expensive work in the provider's
first snapshot.
> - Cache replay also hashes the same archives twice, and workspace
helpers open sessions that do not need output.
> - This pull request removes that repeated work and refreshes the
restored index before OpenCode starts.
> - It also adds cache-publication timings so the next measurement can
separate quota checks, lock waiting, and archive IO.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Native sandbox workspace preparation and copyback.

**Current behavior**

Cache replay validates shared archives, copies them, and validates them
again. Exit-status-only helpers use persistent sessions. A restored
checkout can make OpenCode's first snapshot recheck much of the
repository. Cache publication has an unexplained interval after archive
verification.

**Proposed behavior**

Validate the private archive copy that staging will consume. Use the
existing one-shot command path for helpers that only need an exit
status. Refresh the Git index after workspace transfer for a new native
OpenCode sandbox. Keep the refresh inside the awaited inbound barrier
and use the existing command timeout. Add nested publication spans.

**Reason and benefit**

Two matched local component pairs reduced preparation plus provider time
from 8.563/8.553 seconds to 7.313/7.511 seconds, including the refresh
cost. Two alternating remote copyback pairs reduced the median from
9.110 to 7.943 seconds. These are component results. They do not
establish an end-to-end hosted improvement.

Related: #18181 and the earlier closed #18195. This implementation uses
the existing fully awaited transfer boundary. It does not use an
optional preparation deadline.

## What Changed

- Materialize cache hits into caller-owned staging and validate those
exact bytes once. Remove incomplete copies on failure.
- Select the existing one-shot path for exit-status-only run and removal
helpers. Output-reading helpers keep their existing behavior.
- Refresh restored Git stat metadata before OpenCode starts. Enable this
only for newly acquired native OpenCode host-current workspaces. Skip
recovery and retained sandboxes. Keep dirty files unstaged, accept Git's
dirty-worktree status, and propagate real command errors.
- Trace cache capacity checks, eviction, the body after lock
acquisition, archive copy, sync, and hashing. Keep the operator endpoint
gate and bounded phase names.

## Verification

- On the rebased branch: 202 focused tests pass: 152 workspace
seed/cache/runtime tests, 27 managed command tests, and 23 native
workspace/tracing tests. Adapter TypeScript build and server typecheck
pass.
- Tests cover corrupted copies, cache changes after private
materialization, dirty working trees, quoted paths, recovery, the
awaited refresh barrier, real command failure, and company-lock
contention.
- A real-filesystem probe through the server phase mapper verified
parentage and endpoint-off behavior. A controlled lock wait stayed
outside the locked-publication span. No external export was used.
- A full local Core/Daytona replay on the pre-rebase implementation
saved its synthetic reply. It retained the pinned large public
workspace, all 209 skill files, positive Git context, and 66 tool
schemas. Both model calls stayed on sandbox loopback. Index refresh took
0.644 seconds and the first provider snapshot took 0.499 seconds. The
run took 162.004 seconds, including large laptop uploads; it is not a
hosted acceptance result or a matched end-to-end comparison. The failed
installer attempt remains recorded separately. Normal cleanup removed
all owned sandboxes.
- The current head passed 53 CI checks, with two optional skips.
Greptile is 5/5 on the exact head, with no open review threads. No
deployment or hosted latency claim is included.

## Risks

- Index refresh adds one awaited command. It uses the existing timeout.
A real Git failure stops preparation.
- Cache hits need temporary disk space for a private copy. Existing
corruption fallback and per-run recovery archives remain.
- One-shot command transport must preserve exit status and timeout
behavior across providers. The agent's native session and output-reading
helpers are unchanged.
- Local component gains are small relative to the remaining hosted
latency. Batch the fixes with the diagnostic spans; measure the actual
deployed path before claiming success.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, tool use, and code
execution. The session does not expose the exact model SKU or
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 61bd4ac691 feat(agents): set up Antigravity with saved Google subscriptions (#18189)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agents and their work.
> - Users choose providers and managed accounts while adding agents.
> - Antigravity was missing from the ordinary additional-agent picker
and its saved Google path did not complete native readiness.
> - A user needs a successful Test, an enabled task action, and a stable
account binding.
> - This pull request connects the ordinary setup flow to the native
candidate.
> - It also preserves retired credential refreshes across database
failures and server restarts.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Built on merged #18188 and #18187. Refs: #12503, #14938 for related
legacy CLI proposals.

**Agent or provider**

Google Antigravity ACP 1.4.3.

**Why this adapter is useful**

Users need to set up an Antigravity agent and run real work through
their managed Google subscription.

**How the agent is invoked**

Native Paperclip Runner uses the pinned Antigravity ACP runtime. Exact
operator admission remains required; the local candidate result does not
enable general release.

## What Changed

- Show Google Antigravity in the ordinary adapter grid and preserve the
draft choice when setup resumes.
- Reuse the same user’s saved personal default Google subscription and
discover the exact low model through the native account.
- Run a prompt-free native Test and wait for authoritative readiness
before enabling task assignment.
- Carry the managed account through native runs and recover retired
refreshes through the existing encrypted, fsynced journal with exact
generation checks.
- Retain the latest rotated credential through verification, storage,
and partial home-removal failures. Retry the exact account’s retained
cleanup before another provider use.
- Reconcile cleanup before taking the credential mutation lock, fence
owners arriving during lock acquisition, and support nested lock holders
without a join cycle.
- Bound sign-in retirement outside database transactions and preserve
claims for the existing cleanup owner; one pending sign-in does not
block unrelated accounts.
- Cover Gemini and Pi API-key recovery, keep API-key bulk manual-model
editing usable, and keep adapter discovery available after candidate
expiry.
- Skip taskless native timer work before run or credential admission.
Preserve current master monitor and deadline scheduling.

## Verification

- The registered local saved-Google-subscription journey passed all 16
matchers in 196,520 ms using eval source `12aba` against actual serving
source `4a37ee7c`. Both turns stayed in one conversation, produced exact
downloaded files of 61 and 119 bytes after reload, and used distinct
native primary processes. All observed owners retired, leases released,
and credential fences settled. Independent readback confirmed Done work,
no active owned runs, a connected saved account, and the retained agent
paused for inspection.
- The measured runtime is production-equivalent to pre-restack
`65ef31dc` except its test-only transport fixture correction.
Current-master head `ff7c9249` preserves all 99 product paths: 98 exact
blobs and only eight inherited plugin-panel lines in `agents.ts`. Its
native binary was rebuilt for inherited Codex-only diagnostic changes;
the changed Rust behavior is outside Antigravity's ACPX execution path.
Shared native/UI changes have focused regression coverage. The recorded
live result is not represented as a measured replay of `ff7c9249`.
- Full workspace build and typecheck passed on `ff7c9249`. All 376
focused tests in 14 files passed, covering Google credential/retirement
controls and the inherited native-tool, redaction, route, and UI
recovery changes. Token gates, maps, and diff checks passed. The
required-close fixture was separately demonstrated red, then passed all
317 selected provider-wiring cases.
- [Current-head
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40959387972)
is green: 55 successful checks, two skipped workflow checks, and an
optional neutral review check. Required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e`
passed. Greptile and Paperclip Review both report 5/5 on exact
`ff7c9249`, with zero unresolved review threads.
- This qualifies the selected operator-authorized local
saved-subscription candidate. The original exploratory journey remains
historical evidence; the repeatable fixed-driver eval is in the next PR.

## Risks

- Google refresh recovery must preserve the exact grant, account, and
credential generation. An uncertain native owner or failed encrypted
handoff retains the private home and blocks cleanup.
- A successful local saved-subscription candidate does not qualify fresh
OAuth, API keys, Cloud, Linux, other models, or general release.
- Timer filtering changes only taskless native Runner admissions.
Existing task-bound monitors and legacy adapters retain their owners.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex (GPT-6). The host did not expose the exact model revision
or context limit. The model used tools for code edits, tests, and
review.

Nicky LeachandPaperclip 247de89eae fix(runner): preserve warm tasks during recovery (#18169)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages agent work and the lifetime of its execution
resources.
> - A warm native task can keep one Runner alive between successful
turns.
> - Foreground completion selects whether that resource stays running or
stops.
> - Background recovery must use the same selected policy.
> - Recovery currently reads that policy only from workspace copy-back
records.
> - A task without such a record can be stopped immediately after
foreground retention.
> - This pull request saves the resource policy with the native runtime
and permits the retained task to refresh its control connection.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Background native finalization can stop a successful warm Runner when
its run has no Core workspace-sync record. Foreground completion retains
that same task. The stopped Runner cannot receive the later drain and
suspend commands. Cold resume then correctly rejects its unproven
checkpoint.

Hosted diagnostics confirmed the recovery reconciler attempted
environment release immediately after foreground retention. The provider
connection returned HTTP 404 within the same second. A database-backed
regression reproduced the stop without a workspace-sync record.

A separate authorization gap also prevents the current retained task
from refreshing its connection endpoint after the run succeeds.

**Expected behavior**

Foreground completion and recovery must use the selected resource
policy. A successful warm task stays running until its idle shutdown can
suspend it. Failed or cancelled work still stops. The current retained
task can refresh its existing control route, but cannot prepare or
submit new execution.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Select a warm native runtime on a reusable remote execution
environment.
2. Complete a turn without a Core workspace-sync record.
3. Let native finalization recovery settle the still-active run lease
before foreground retention finishes.
4. Before this change, recovery defaults to `stop_and_retain` and
invokes the provider stop path.
5. Separately, request the retained task's connection endpoint after
successful completion. Before this change, Core rejects that request.

**Paperclip version/commit**

The hosted failure used Core 31b927e301.
Regressions also reproduced on master at 6d59f5ef7.

**Deployment mode**

A remote native execution environment with reusable warm tasks. The
resource policy is generic and applies across harnesses and providers.

Related recovery coverage: Refs #18161. This change preserves the
suspended-checkpoint admission guard. Existing tasks without the newly
saved policy retain the previous conservative fallback; deployments must
drain or recover them explicitly.

## What Changed

- Save the selected native resource disposition in the existing
runtime-selection transaction. Add no startup database round trip or
network request.
- Read this small policy in background settlement and recovery when no
workspace-sync record exists. Preserve valid workspace-sync policies and
export-retry behavior.
- Keep failed and cancelled runs out of warm retention.
- Permit connection refresh for a successful, dispatched warm task on
its current retained reusable lease. Keep retirement, termination,
expiry, saved-run identity, and plugin capability checks.
- Add database-backed retention and selection regressions,
failure/cancellation coverage, and bounded projection checks. Document
the lifecycle and access contracts.

## Verification

- Before the source edits, the no-workspace-sync regression invoked the
driver with `stop_and_retain` instead of retaining the lease. Both
runtime-selection cases failed because the resource policy was absent.
- After the source edits, those regressions and both
run-state/runtime-selection files passed. The three-file run had 77
passes and two new fixture expectation failures. Those fixtures were
corrected. Final-head GitHub CI passed, including the server suites,
Runner checks, typecheck, build, and E2E gates. The local rerun was
deferred at the user's request.
- Commands: `node_modules/.bin/vitest run
server/src/__tests__/native-environment-settlement-work.test.ts
server/src/services/heartbeat/runtime-selection.test.ts
server/src/services/heartbeat/run-state.test.ts`.
- The connection authorization regression failed before its edit. All 34
tests in `server/src/__tests__/environment-task-runtime.test.ts` then
passed.
- `node scripts/check-maps.mjs` and `git diff --check` passed.
- No comprehensive local suite was run. Further local tests and VM
reproductions were stopped at the user's request to conserve battery and
mobile data. GitHub CI verifies the final head.
- Hosted verification of this patch requires deployment after merge.
Passing pre-patch retries did not establish repair of the original
failure.

- Standard Greptile and the subsequent requested Apex review both
returned **5/5** on `360bcd7e789d65950c27484af237faec02553666`, with no
inline findings.

## Risks

- This adds one server-owned field to the existing run profile JSON; no
migration is required. Invalid or absent policy keeps the previous
conservative fallback.
- Valid workspace-sync disposition remains authoritative. Pending export
and failed finalization still use stop-and-retain safety behavior.
- Retained connection access requires a successful run, matching saved
run identity, dispatched warm task, unexpired reusable lease, and no
retirement or termination. Superseded leases and new execution remain
denied.
- The cold-resume checkpoint proof is unchanged. This patch does not
make the already-stopped task's unsuspended checkpoint resumable.

## Model Used

execution. The host does not expose a more specific serving model ID or
context-window size.

DottaandPaperclip 6f278dd6d7 fix(runtime): settle recovery lease and connection lifecycles (#18167)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - A remote runner can survive a controller restart.
> - Recovery renews its execution lease during slow preparation.
> - The native executor then shares that renewal timer.
> - Preparation kept its reference until all finalization finished. A
tick after lease release treated completion as ownership loss and
detached the retained runner.
> - A Linux continuity test also found that buffered wire events could
arrive before their connection was registered. Cleanup then kept a
completed promise under an undefined key and never finished.
> - This pull request transfers renewal ownership after execution
acquires its reference. It also registers each connection before wire
callbacks can run.
> - Recovered turns can complete, retain the warm runner, and settle
connection cleanup.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A recovered remote run could complete, release its coordinator lease,
then detach during instruction collection. The next turn could find the
old runner still using the ingress port. Recovery then stopped because
it could not prove process ownership.

**Expected behavior**

Preparation keeps the lease alive until execution owns renewal.
Execution stops renewal before releasing the lease. Actual ownership
loss still detaches the runner. Buffered wire callbacks must use the
registered connection, and cleanup must finish.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Recover an in-flight remote runner after a controller restart.
2. Let the recovered turn complete.
3. Hold instruction collection open through the next lease renewal tick.
4. Send a follow-up that needs the retained runner.

Related: #17439 introduced remote controller recovery. #18011 preserves
checkpoint authority through warm preparation. This change fixes the
lifetime of preparation's renewal reference.

## What Changed

- Pass an internal lease-acquired callback from recovery through
heartbeat dispatch.
- Release preparation's renewal reference after the executor registers
its own. Keep final cleanup for exits before dispatch.
- Add a PostgreSQL regression for completion while finalization is still
pending. Cover callback forwarding, acquire-before-release ordering, and
failure before dispatch.
- Register the authority connection before subscribing to wire events.
Handle an immediate close before accepting buffered data.
- Add regressions for a message or close delivered during subscription.
- Extend Linux continuity coverage with preparation renewal and delayed
instruction collection after recovery.
- Update the continuity guide and session verification recipes.

## Verification

- The new recovery regression failed before the fix because renewal
detached the runner after lease release. The 76 recovery, renewal, and
dispatch tests then passed. The final ordering and early-exit checks
passed again after replacing fixed sleeps with controlled interval
ticks.
- Both buffered-wire regressions failed before the connection fix. All
170 control-plane tests passed afterward. Existing tests cover stale
authority, ownership loss, pending operations, and closed ingress.
- Linux ARM64 acceptance passed at
`a7daefacceb8bd994d0b79d284cdf54f3e3829d1`, with Node 24.19.0,
PostgreSQL, the real Rust runner, TLS ingress, and a deterministic Codex
protocol fixture. The test interrupted the first turn, recovered it,
held finalization open for a renewal interval, and completed two
follow-ups. It retained one provider process, three turns in one
history, and the same runner identity. Final suspension and connection
cleanup completed. The ordinary warm-reuse case also passed three turns
with one provider process.
- Earlier Linux attempts completed the turns but hung during cleanup. A
debugger found a fulfilled promise keyed by an undefined connection. The
regression reproduces that defect. One later setup attempt timed out
while staging an unstripped 373 MB debug binary. The passing run used
the same binary with debug symbols removed.
- Reproduce Linux acceptance with the `same-server` case in
`doc/testing-native-remote-continuity.md`.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, map validation, and `git diff
--check` passed at the final revision. The full local `pnpm test:run`
command was attempted, but the serial run had not finished after 13
minutes. It was stopped after the equivalent CI lanes passed. It is not
counted as a full local pass.
- Greptile and the Paperclip review both scored the final revision 5/5
with no findings. All Runner verification lanes passed. The first CI
attempt hit timing failures in voice recovery, agent YAML configuration,
and the task-title outage browser test. The full YAML and voice-recovery
files passed locally (88 and 19 tests). These paths were unchanged and
passed on the prior revision. All three passed on the single retry.
Final current-head status: 55 successful checks, one neutral check, and
two skipped Storybook checks. No pending or failed checks remain.
- Live Daytona/model acceptance and recovery of the hosted task remain
unverified. This PR does not deploy the change.

## Risks

- Releasing preparation before execution starts renewal could leave a
gap in authority. The callback runs after the executor registers its
reference.
- Preparation errors must not leak renewal. The recovery promise retains
idempotent final cleanup.
- Wire callbacks can run during subscription. Message and close
regressions check that registration is complete before either callback
runs.
- No schema, API, model, permission, lease duration, or retry policy
changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution, and browser diagnostics. The exact serving model identifier
and context window are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip f60ac29cf1 fix(runner): migrate Grok Build with native reasoning effort (#17922)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Harness selection maps supported agents to Paperclip Runner.
> - The native Runner already supports Grok Build, but its migration
mapping excludes Grok.
> - Grok agents also have a thinking-effort setting that the native
execution contract does not carry.
> - This pull request adds the migration path and preserves explicit
Grok effort through startup and resume.
> - Operators can upgrade an existing Grok agent without silently losing
its model, account, or effort.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

Existing Grok Build agents have no Runner selector or upgrade action.
Adding only the mapping would route conversion through the Codex
fallback and lose Grok execution semantics. Native execution also
ignores the legacy reasoning-effort field.

**Expected behavior**

A qualified Grok agent can explicitly upgrade. The saved model, account,
instructions, history, and supported effort remain intact. Unsupported
legacy settings fail before saving. The provider must acknowledge the
selected effort before inference.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Open the runtime page of an existing Grok Build agent on a qualified
Linux x64 or macOS ARM64 computer.
2. Observe that the Runner selector and upgrade action are absent.
3. Compare the native execution input with the saved legacy
reasoning-effort setting.

Related work: #13882 introduced native Grok Build. #15422 covers the
earlier default-runner work. This change extends the current shared
selection contract.

## What Changed

- Add the Grok harness mapping, qualified platform limits, upgrade
action, and company-scoped computer qualification.
- Translate Grok settings to ACPX without changing the selected account
or explicit model. Resolve the legacy default model to the native
default. Preserve the effective legacy search policy. Reject
incompatible command, argument, permission, and turn-limit settings.
- Add native execution input v10 for explicit Grok effort and search
policy. Preserve historical schemas. Enforce disabled search through
Grok requirements and bind it across startup and recovery.
- Apply and verify ACP `reasoning_effort` before prompting. Bind the
value to provider descriptors, checkpoints, runtime identity, and resume
checks.
- Use the Grok catalog and effort choices in the task composer. Apply
task model and effort overrides while retaining the agent account and
search policy. Update runtime controls, portability/default handling,
documentation, and capability maps.
- Advance Pi and Copilot source attestations for changed shared
transport and recovery code. Keep historical identities intact and
update all Rust integration fixtures.

## Verification

- Migration and review regressions were reproduced before the fixes.
Coverage includes the Grok mapping, default model, explicit effort,
implicit search policy, task overrides, and incompatible legacy
settings. The broad migration, route, immutable-input, and composer
check passed 478 tests. The final catalog and task-input check passed
135 tests.
- Runner startup, recovery, search policy, and profile checks passed 361
tests, with one platform skip. The final source-identity,
search-admission, and transport event-pump check passed 89 tests.
- All 757 Rust workspace tests passed for the broad implementation.
After the final source attestation update, all 55 ACPX profile/session
tests passed.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed for the implementation.
Server and Runner typecheck passed after the final production change.
Server `tsc --noEmit` passed after the final test-fixture change. Docker
context integrity, token gates, maps, generated protocol data, and
replay goldens passed.
- The v10 startup fixture initially used an ambient local Grok login and
failed on CI. An explicitly empty credential home reproduced all four
failures. The fixture now supplies a synthetic key and a private empty
home. A separate case checks that missing credentials fail closed. All
seven selected Grok v10 and Claude v9 startup cases pass without host
credentials.
- The full local suite could not complete because embedded PostgreSQL
failed before database-backed fixture setup. The broad executor-suite
attempt hit the same limit and was stopped. Neither attempt is counted
as passing. Current-head CI must verify those paths before merge.
- Earlier CI found missing Rust input fields, stale source attestations
and exact fixture pins, a missing Docker context entry, and an outdated
import expectation. Those failures were fixed and checked locally. The
CI logs retain the original failures.
- Different earlier CI runs also failed unchanged cleanup pagination,
device-login timeout, and chat lost-response recovery cases. Later
attempts passed the cleanup and login cases without changes to those
implementations. Their causes remain unproven. The original evidence
remains in [the first
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40563402840),
[the login
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40571128328),
and [the chat
run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40573072163).
A passing retry does not establish a root-cause fix.
- Both reviews rate current head
`16fba9b4cdf12bc7945e6628912e79da42959f35` 5/5. All current-head CI
gates pass in [run
40576580699](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40576580699).
All 60 check runs completed cleanly, including the four intentional
skips and the neutral 5/5 Paperclip review. The legacy security status
is successful. No review threads remain unresolved.
- Staging migration and a real shell task are pending deployment. This
PR does not claim full Grok provider qualification. Reviewers can verify
the operator path by upgrading a qualified Grok agent, checking its
saved model and effort, and running a shell task through native
execution.

## Risks

- Explicit effort and search policy require the matching Runner and
sidecar build. Older immutable execution inputs keep their existing
schemas.
- Providers that omit or reject the selected effort fail before a
prompt. Unsupported effort does not fall back silently.
- Existing agents retain their saved runner until an explicit change.
New Grok agents use native execution only on qualified platforms.
- Grok token and cost reporting remain unverified, as before.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and
context-window capacity are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning,
source editing, shell execution, and browser inspection.

DottaandPaperclip 063a498b54 Bound native OpenCode assigned-tool catalog projection (#17740)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Native agents use assigned connection tools through a governed
gateway.
> - OpenCode received the gateway catalog directly, outside the bounded
server tool projection.
> - A large catalog can exceed a provider grammar compiler's capacity
even when it fits the transport limits.
> - Synthetic requests reproduced the Fireworks grammar timeout on the
configured DeepSeek model.
> - This pull request gives OpenCode two assigned-tool discovery and
call schemas through the existing server relay.
> - The gateway keeps the same grants, validation, approvals,
revocation, and audit rules.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A native OpenCode run could fail during provider grammar compilation
before its first assigned-tool call. OpenCode advertised the full
assigned gateway catalog. A synthetic catalog of 741 tool schemas
reproduced `Grammar processing took too much time` on Fireworks through
OpenRouter with `deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017`. The same model and
backend accepted a compact two-tool discovery/call catalog. This
reproduces the mechanism; it does not replay a historical private
request.

**Expected behavior**

Assigned-tool discovery must keep provider grammar size bounded. Every
call must retain the run's original gateway binding and permissions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Give a native OpenCode run a large assigned connection catalog.
2. Use a provider that compiles tool schemas into a constrained output
grammar.
3. Observe the full catalog in the provider tool surface before this
change.
4. After this change, observe only `paperclip_search_assigned_tools` and
`paperclip_call_assigned_tool` for assigned tools. Discover and call a
permitted tool through its pinned alias.

**Paperclip version or commit**

Source checkout based on current `master`.

**Deployment mode**

Native local or sandbox execution with OpenCode 1.18.34.

Related work: Refs #14258 (discovery paging), #16678 (local adapter MCP
launch), and #17688 (gateway capability advertisement). This change
covers native OpenCode catalog projection.

## What Changed

- Route native OpenCode assigned tools through the existing server-owned
authenticated relay.
- Use bounded discovery/call schemas for OpenCode, including small
catalogs. Preserve transport capacity checks.
- Keep assigned gateway credentials on the controller. Ignore gateway
and credential values in tool arguments.
- Preserve exact declared MCP operation names through admission and
driver dispatch. Resolve transport prefixes only against the closed
catalog. Reject unknown or shortened names.
- Refresh former OpenCode direct-catalog and shortened-name checkpoints.
Keep the existing fingerprints for other providers.
- Add local and remote wiring, catalog capacity, alias, scope,
work-mode, approval, and revocation tests.
- Allow the native test files to use a validated dedicated external test
database when embedded PostgreSQL is unavailable.
- Document the assigned-tool execution contract.

- Bound OpenCode discovery pages to 32 KiB and large-schema chunks to
16K characters. Keep other harness budgets unchanged.
- Test medium pages and escaped large schemas through the actual HTTP
MCP bridge on the explicit Runner testing surface.

## Verification

- Red before the catalog fix: OpenCode did not create the server relay,
and forced compact delivery advertised 1 or 741 direct schemas.
- Red before the alias repair: HTTP MCP changed declared operation
names, and the driver sent `search_assigned_tools` instead of the
authorized `paperclip_search_assigned_tools`.
- Current repair tests: 112 OpenCode/proxy tests pass, plus one actual
Rust/proxy/HTTP MCP regression. Two checkpoint regressions fail with the
former scoped revision and pass with the new revision. Other providers
keep their prior fingerprints.
- The combined QA candidate with this exact PR head passes all 916
native tests and all 113 transport tests on supported Node 24.22. An
earlier Node 26.4/macOS run passed the 113 assertions but had an
uncaught networking error. That non-clean run remains recorded; its
stack matches [the upstream Undici
defect](https://github.com/nodejs/undici/issues/5544). No production
workaround or error suppression was added.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `git diff --check` pass on
`bc41ba72be2195eabeb0d7727227ee0cd02e8532`. The maps structural check
passes.
- The local `pnpm test:run` attempt stopped after host embedded
PostgreSQL initialization failures. The relevant database suites pass
with isolated PostgreSQL 18. All repository CI gates, including
aggregate `ci / verify`, pass on the current head.
- Synthetic live provider comparison: 741 invented schemas produced the
exact Fireworks grammar timeout in 20.9 seconds. Two compact invented
schemas produced a discovery call in 585 ms on the same model and
backend.
- The first hosted QA attempt exposed the alias failure described above.
On the patched source, a real local Rust runner → proxy → OpenCode
1.18.34 → exact DeepSeek smoke completed discovery, one synthetic
gateway read, and `paperclip_finish`, then emitted `turn/completed`. It
used the production compact projection and unchanged Rust allowlist.
- Two earlier local smoke attempts exposed missing terminal authority
and completion-contract fields in the smoke harness. Those failures
remain recorded. The corrected ordinary bindings produced the clean
result.
- Fresh Greptile: 5/5 on `bc41ba72be2195eabeb0d7727227ee0cd02e8532`,
with no new actionable findings or unresolved threads.
- Hosted QA publication and lifecycle acceptance remain pending. The
separate deployed-agent `Paperclip Review` check is also pending; it
follows a task that failed on the earlier deployed runtime.

- Local OpenCode/OpenRouter acceptance at `bc41ba72`: 530 synthetic
tools were authorized and installed. A simple model-ID reply completed
in 17.3 seconds with no app calls. A discovery task completed in 37.6
seconds, used the search/call relay, made one upstream call, and
returned the exact synthetic value. This is local source acceptance, not
a staging sandbox timing comparison.
- The large-result review finding has a failing-before/passing-after
HTTP MCP regression. Five medium schemas now page without invalid JSON.
A large schema with escaped text reconstructs exactly through bounded
chunks. All 35 assigned-tool tests and the server typecheck pass after
this follow-up.
- Final head `d84ce4856a6e65a35ad5fb8b561492598b525f4e`: all CI gates
pass. Greptile and Paperclip Review both rate the change 5/5. No review
threads remain open. The final full build, server typecheck, and 35
assigned-tool tests pass locally.

## Risks

- OpenCode uses discovery before it calls an assigned tool, including
for small catalogs. This can add a model turn.
- An existing OpenCode provider checkpoint rotates once because it
retains the former tool declarations. Paperclip task history remains
available.
- The historical filtered catalog was not captured. The synthetic
comparison proves the failure mechanism, not the exact cardinality of an
earlier private request.
- No model, provider route, permission, or automatic retry policy
changes.

## Model Used

The bounded-result follow-up also used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 family). The
exact backend model ID and context-window size were not exposed for that
session. It used reasoning, code execution, and tool use.

OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` in Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution,
and source inspection. The runtime does not expose the context-window
size.

DottaandPaperclip 505e1a5582 feat(cases): add persistent workflows with same-task agent handoffs (#16959)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work.
> - An agent workflow needs persistent facts and a safe way to transfer
work.
> - Creating a task for each phase splits the objective, discussion,
workspace, and review policy.
> - A case can retain the facts while one primary task moves between
agents.
> - Transfers must survive process failure and preserve private access,
budgets, and completion gates.
> - This pull request adds durable case handoffs, native case tools, and
read-only case pages.
> - Prompts describe the workflow. Existing task controls decide when
work can run and finish.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Problem or motivation**

Prompt-driven agent teams need a persistent record that can move through
triage, implementation, verification, and correction. Ordinary
reassignment does not provide a durable instruction, safe release
barrier, or recoverable delivery receipt for an agent handing off its
own running task.

**Proposed solution**

Extend standalone cases with one primary task, a descriptive phase,
retained access sources, and a handoff ledger. Apply assignments after
source execution and workspace settlement. Deliver each transfer through
the existing durable wake queue. Provide `create_case`, `read_case`,
`update_case`, and `handoff_case` in the native runner. Creation
requires kickoff and explicit workflow text. An explicit handoff to
`done` closes the case when normal task completion is accepted.

**Alternatives considered**

Do not add a workflow engine, filesystem queue, configured state graph,
or one task per phase. The workflow document combines transition prose
with an optional Mermaid `stateDiagram-v2` map. The server does not
execute the diagram. The Pipelines experiment removed on master stays
removed.

**Roadmap alignment**

This extends Agent Reviews and Approvals, Enforced Outcomes, Bounded Run
Recovery, and Activity Log attribution. Existing approval, review,
budget, privacy, workspace, and responsible-user rules remain
authoritative.

Related work: [ordinary handoff wake
recovery](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/15019). This
feature adds a separate persisted case-handoff receipt and release
barrier.

## What Changed

- Add case routing fields, retained access sources, durable handoff
history, delivery leases, and replay-safe migrations.
- Keep the same primary task across agent phases. Preserve each
returning agent's own session and the task's workspace.
- Fence outgoing mutations, wait for provider and workspace release, and
recover delivery without duplicate task comments or runs. Recheck
current assignment permissions as the original caller before applying a
delayed transfer. Scope a run Stop to that run’s own handoff intents, so
repeated old Stop requests preserve newer work. Cancelling terminal
intent without a source run also requires fenced current task ownership,
including native retries and preparation with an old checkout. For Cloud
callers, revalidate current stack membership with an uncached Cloud RPC
and derive owner elevation from the current managed setting.
- Keep case reads, documents, assets, Audit, and live events inside
retained task/project permissions.
- Add native case creation/read/update/handoff tools. Store required
workflow text and initial documents on the first task. Page oversized
case facts and referenced document bodies through the dedicated tool
with bounded UTF-8 JSON, current routing versions, snapshot conflicts,
and current source authorization on every page.
- Add read-only case lists and detail pages, task-style list controls,
compact dotted field tables, linked handoff tasks, and case filters in
Audit.
- Add native/legacy integration tests, migration/restart tests, browser
coverage, and bounded live receipt fixtures. Extend the trusted sandbox
condition to cover the new subscription fixture profile.
- Hide obsolete paused-agent warnings on completed or cancelled task
threads.
- Synchronize the company-switch settings test with React effects after
a CI failure. Preserve its security assertions and production remount
behavior.

## Verification

The branch directly includes master `9ef434fe79`. The required `ci /
verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass on head `765fccd67c`. [Current-head
CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39464348614)
passes typecheck, build, tests, and all eight browser shards. Security
checks pass. [Greptile gives this exact head
5/5](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16959#issuecomment-6291156549),
with no unresolved review threads. The optional Paperclip Review check
remains queued because its assigned agent is paused. It is not a
required branch check. No check result was overridden.

Local workspace typecheck and build pass after the master merge, along
with database migration checks, token gates, map checks, Storybook
catalog checks, and the Copilot profile identity check. Standard builds
refresh Runner vendor output. Focused checks pass 2,008
API/paging/context tests and 7 strict case protocol tests. The final
commit changes one test fixture only; its ten tests, UI typecheck, and
token gates pass. No production source changed in that commit.

On current head `765fccd67c`, all **194 critical workflow tests**
executed and passed with no skipped tests in those files:

- 38 Stop/ownership tests, including board completion intent, native
retries, stale Stop, and preparation with an old checkout.
- 2 actual legacy process/HTTP handoff tests, including scratch failure,
a closed-stdio child that continues writing, and recovery through a
fresh worker after the process group stops.
- 5 migration tests, including SQL column metadata, preserved null
authority context, and all six prior-numbering receipts.
- 3 process-settlement and 5 scratch tests.
- 88 handoff-service, 18 heartbeat handoff, and 21 native case-tool
integration tests.
- 7 bounded case/document-read projection tests and 7 strict
protocol-contract tests.

The current CI checkout was `fed65d49`, merging `765fccd67c` into master
`9ef434fe79`. Its new document regressions reconstruct exact
Unicode/escaped bodies and revisions through real native authority and
authenticated HTTP with generic API tools disabled. They cover
case-owned, primary-task, and linked-task documents; routing on every
page; stale document snapshots; access loss and unlinking;
unrelated/foreign/private sources; system documents; and quarantined
content. Active-task document tools retain their existing behavior.
These are current-head test results from the first CI attempt; the
browser-only retry did not rerun these suites.

The full `64fdd3403f` CI failed one separate settings test: after a
company switch, it observed an unsettled API-key draft. The production
component and test were unchanged from prior green source. Production
switches remount both keyed settings layers; the test directly reused an
unkeyed view and used a timer tick instead of waiting for React effects.
The final commit replaces that fixture synchronization with React `act`.
The exact secret-clearing assertions and all timeouts remain unchanged.
The original assertion failure remains recorded; no unchanged retry was
used. The narrow unchanged baseline and fixed fixture each pass 10
tests.

The upstream result-paging merge preserves case capture namespaces and
current asset privacy. Its API integration suite executed 39 of 41 tests
successfully, with two skipped; the optional assigned-result PRP
integration test was skipped. Neither skipped suite is counted in the
194 critical tests or as live provider proof.

All 361 upstream migration entries and SQL bodies remain unchanged. Six
case migrations follow master as 0363–0368 with identical SQL hashes.
Official Drizzle generators produced the combined metadata and five
retained snapshots. Generation reports no schema changes, and the
snapshot drift test passes. The earlier `ce361ae5d0` CI passed on
attempt 1, including its then-current 179 critical tests. Fresh review
later identified unusable document references with generic API tools
disabled; the bounded document reads and ten additional authenticated
HTTP tests address that finding.

The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was cancelled after this Mac
exhausted PostgreSQL semaphore capacity; it is **not** counted as a
pass. Later database attempts also stopped before assertions or skipped,
including one sandbox socket denial. Two original stale-Stop regressions
did reproduce the bug against the old source. A REST serialization
assertion passed after two preserved database-startup failures. No test
timeout was increased. All 194 assertions listed above executed and
passed in current-head CI. The complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard
also passed after the fixture repair.

A configured-provider receipt workflow passed 13 backend checks across
triage → implementation → verification → correction → done, using one
task and four work runs. The saved receipt is revision 2 with total 6
USD; case and task both closed. The original canonical attempt remains
failed because its browser assertion confused the terminal destination
with completed-task tooltips. The corrected full browser verifier passed
on the same retained database and original runs, with no additional
provider calls. The last clean-build browser readback is on
`6a86c54a53`; later changes affect recovery, authorization, bounded
reads, and settlement. Accounted work cost is a $1.010574 rate-card
estimate; provider billing and setup-probe usage are unavailable.

Copilot profile 49 passed the unchanged seven-fixture private protocol
pack (46/46 checks, no retries) and the product file-edit canary after
master's completion-replay change. All 60 bound implementation hashes
remain unchanged on the current source. Historical profile-47/48
identities and results remain intact. See the [profile-49 compatibility
record](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/codex/persistent-case-handoffs/doc/plans/2026-10-20-copilot-completion-recovery-compatibility-v49.json).
This is bounded compatibility evidence, not a fresh full matrix,
installed-package product test, or Daytona rollout.

Preserved CI failures and retries:

- On `20662930ac`, Slack managed setup failed a five-second success
assertion after reload. Its test/application path was unchanged from a
prior green head. One unchanged-source retry passed all 25 tests in that
shard; no source or timeout changed.
- On `9402b4f17a`, two CI workers received shutdown signals at 15:24:19
UTC. Neither log had an assertion failure before interruption. One
unchanged-source retry of each passed all Runner static checks and all
32 tests in browser shard 6; both aggregates passed. The next head,
`7b4374edaf`, passed all CI without retries.
- On `295f289b5a`, serialized shard 9 timed out during its first
device-login test, then the next test found an active login lease.
Direct login/test paths were unchanged from a prior green head. Cold
import plus a timed-out async body using the next test's mutable
actor/store is the supported fixture-race explanation; no request trace
proves that sequence. The original failure remains recorded. One
unchanged-source retry passed all 294 tests in 19 files, including all
41 device-login tests. No login source or timeout changed. The
subsequent `ce361ae5d0` CI passed without retries.
- On `64fdd3403f`, one company-switch settings assertion observed an
unsettled draft. The final test-only commit uses React `act` without
changing assertions, timeouts, or production code. On `765fccd67c`, all
ten settings tests and the complete 385-file, 3,963-test UI shard
passed.
- On `765fccd67c`, browser shard 3 completed the split-handoff
assertions, then cleanup received HTTP 500 from run cancellation after a
one-second PostgreSQL row-lock timeout. The extra chat run was reporting
completed work while teardown began. Cleanup stopped before restoring a
global experiment flag, causing a later assertion to fail. Relevant
production and test paths are unchanged from an earlier green commit.
Stop's lock order is consistent, and no nested self-lock was found; the
exact PostgreSQL blocker was not recorded. One unchanged-shard retry
passed. The original failure, trace, and downstream flag failure remain
recorded. No Stop implementation, cleanup assertion, or timeout changed.
The retry supports intermittent cleanup contention; it does not identify
the original blocking transaction.

## Risks

- Local process transfers require host-owned PID/group absence. Missing
or uncertain termination evidence keeps delivery pending, independently
of scratch setup.
- Handoff admission and task cancellation share execution ownership. New
regression tests cover temporary holds, late source writes, and
uncertain provider termination.
- Retained private sources use an intersection of existing permissions.
This intentionally fails closed when a source is missing or an existing
task cannot preserve that boundary.
- Migrations add tables and indexes. They preserve master history and
can replay over prior feature installs. Migration 0368 adds nullable
internal authorization provenance with no default or authority backfill.
Historical transfers still awaiting release without this context fail
closed; an operator must cancel them and request a new handoff.
- Delayed Cloud handoffs depend on the current Cloud membership RPC. An
unavailable, ambiguous, expired, or mismatched response holds the
handoff for retry; it does not reuse cached authority or grant access.
- Bounded reads reload and reauthorize the selected projection per page.
Underlying work grows with the data size and number of pages. Changed
data or routing requires restarting from offset zero without the old
snapshot.
- Phase names and workflow diagrams remain advisory. They do not satisfy
review or approval gates.
- This is a large, cross-cutting PR. The maintainer requested one PR for
the whole feature; the commits separate data, runtime, UI, and
qualification work.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with tool use, code execution, and delegated
code review. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were
not exposed in the session. Live fixture agents used the explicitly
configured provider model recorded in their test evidence.

DottaandPaperclip 4b05795712 fix(github): reuse review instructions across native turns (#16971)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - GitHub events continue an ordinary task and can reuse its provider
conversation.
> - Each automatic event appended the full review policy and PR
description.
> - Native GitHub follow-ups also repeated task history because only
Slack used the compact path.
> - This pull request separates admitted review configuration from
commit updates.
> - A verified resume sends the current messages and changed
configuration. A fresh session gets full context.
> - This reduces repeated input while retaining review rules and current
tool checks.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #13959, #16645, #16901.

**What happened?**

Opening a PR and pushing twice stored three full review prompts. A later
native turn repeated all three in a retained provider conversation.

**Expected behavior**

A new event supplies its commit and event data. The harness delivers
stable review instructions once per retained conversation and
configuration. Fresh sessions receive full instructions.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Enable automatic GitHub reviews for a repository.
2. Open a PR, let the review finish, and push two new commits.
3. Inspect task messages and the native submitted envelopes. Before this
fix, the policy and old requests repeat.

## What Changed

- Store compact automatic event messages. Fetch the PR description
through the existing metadata tool when needed.
- Load review instructions from processed deliveries bound to the
company, task, agent, and source comments. Preserve each admitted policy
snapshot.
- Use the existing verified native continuation path for complete GitHub
text batches. Deliver configuration changes using a key over endpoint,
PR conversation, revision, and instructions.
- Keep full bootstrap input for fresh sessions and failed resume,
including board follow-ups with no new GitHub event. Retain existing
framing for incomplete batches, attachments, interactions, and recovery.
- Keep the same configuration identity across automatic review,
discussion, and automatic review. Coalesced requests use the last
accepted request's admitted policy.
- Add regression and database coverage. Update the execution contract
and verification recipe.

## Verification

- Red: the new event-size regression failed because policy and PR body
repeated. The GitHub continuation regression failed because it returned
no compact prompt.
- Green: focused policy, continuation, native input, and adapter prompt
tests passed (231 tests). Native resume/fresh-bootstrap cases passed (9
tests).
- The signed-webhook/database case passed at `6296168253`. It checks
configuration edits, queued older snapshots, coalesced policy selection,
discussion continuity, board follow-ups, and company/task/agent/comment
boundaries. The private PostgreSQL template used 12 connections because
the host reached its semaphore limit with the default settings.
- The earlier broad channel/session integration run passed 1,432 tests.
Later review fixes invalidated that run. The latest focused database
case passed after those fixes.
- Reviewer regressions failed against the previous lookup, then passed
with the fix: a mixed-revision batch delivered multiple policies, and a
discussion lost the configuration identity. The board
wake-to-rendered-prompt regression also failed before repair.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and
`git diff --check` passed on the final source.
- Full local `pnpm test:run` exposed follow-up/fixture failures during
development. Those cases are fixed and pass separately. The stale run
was stopped after source edits. Full-suite validation for the final
commit passed in CI.
- All required CI checks passed for `6296168253`, including tests,
typechecks, build, and clean public npm install checks. The two
unrelated Storybook checks were skipped.
- A live two-turn Codex smoke could not start: the local macOS sandbox
helper rejected execution of the installed Codex 0.153.4 binary. No live
GitHub/provider acceptance or deployment is claimed.

## Risks

Skipping instructions is safe only after a verified checkpoint resume
with the correct previous run. The full bootstrap remains available if
resume fails. Changed or previously unknown configuration is sent again.
Tests cover these cases. Tool authorization and publication checks still
run under the current server policy. No database migration is required.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with tool use and code execution. The exact
deployment model identifier and context window are not exposed in this
session. No delegated agents were used.

DottaandPaperclip 92b238137b Connect and configure GitHub Copilot through Apps (#15705)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Apps and AI Connections store credentials and govern access to agent
runtimes.
> - Users need a supported saved-token connection and config values that
survive save and reopen.
> - The release must preserve saved-token access and task lifecycle
guarantees.
> - This pull request will connect Copilot through the normal Apps and
AI Connections path.
> - The benefit is a reviewable part of the Copilot production release.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #15701 and #15703. Supersedes setup work in #15562. Base: #15703.
Next: #15706.

## What Changed

- Require configuration update authority before Copilot
credential-bearing model discovery; default to the saved environment and
preserve explicit selection for editors.

- Keep Copilot discovery passive during reconnect reconciliation;
refresh on explicit opening, account/environment changes and reconnect.

- Add GitHub AI token connections with encrypted storage, ownership,
grants and audit logging.
- Keep repository access separate from Copilot runtime authentication.
- Probe the selected environment without sending a model prompt and
preserve authenticated model selection through save/reopen.
- Keep fresh execution admission consistent with normal Copilot setup;
persist task model choices without changing provider or permission
policy.
- Refresh authenticated models after reconnecting the same saved Copilot
account, including recovery from a previous authentication error.
- Apply the additive provider-default constraint migration through the
normal generated migration workflow.

## Verification

Runtime #15701 is merged at `d855e550ad8d2a267312983f26457aabf5393c3a`.

contains the four-file authorization repair. The remaining PR trees
preserve six nonoverlapping files from the newer public mainline
managed-settings fix and the CI-owned lockfile. No unrelated provider is
enabled.

The security finding is repaired: existing-agent discovery requires
`agent_config:update` before connection selection or token resolution.
The saved environment is the default. Authorized editors can select a
prospective environment. Both denied board-viewer and agent-reader
regressions fail on the original source. All49 route tests and server
typecheck pass with the fix. Denied requests perform no connection
selection, credential resolution or probe. Current-head security scans
pass on both remaining PRs; the repaired thread is resolved.

Copilot CLI1.0.88 and profile47 retain digest

reports20/20 Product cells,154 assertions and7/7 protocol cases,46
assertions against frozen normal installed source
`c2616370800f5f6df45246b0890ba35a7cd2faab`. The exact qualification
model is `gpt-5.6-luna`. Every passing Product case confirms cleanup.
Original failures remain recorded; automatic behavior retries are
disabled. The route-only authorization repair changes no bound
runtime/profile bytes and does not relabel the frozen campaign.

The ordinary installed remote journey passed saved-token selection,
model discovery, normal UI save/reopen, metadata-only Test, completed
task, accepted receipt and exact19-byte browser download. An open model
catalog caused no additional discovery requests during117seconds. Actual
installed runtime smokes passed on macOS ARM64, macOS x64 under Rosetta
and native Linux x64 on Daytona. Raw token browser entry was not
exercised; encrypted connection creation used the normal API.

The first Daytona file attempt timed out during delayed semantic
dispatch; its precise stalled layer remains unresolved. Independent
ordinary remote delivery and the other19 Product cells passed before one
instrumented recheck passed8/8 with unchanged source, prompt, assertions
and deadlines. No causal latency repair is claimed.

Before the authorization repair, all four final PR heads passed required
verify/E2E and fresh Greptile5/5 reviews with zero unresolved threads.
Current-head CI/review is running for the two repaired heads. Local
focused checks retain129 connection,59 runner,72 shared-eval and88
recovery/workspace passes, plus migration safety and token gates. The
additive Copilot migration is361; released master history is preserved.

[Cloud normal-package
run39414239704](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39414239704)
builds the pre-security source4f3f. All four native producers and Linux
package assembly pass; the final clean installed consumers are
finishing. All18 retained archives match their hashes;37,863 regular
files contain zero selected credentials. That package does not contain
the later route repair. The actual final published package must include
it and pass the local/Daytona live canaries. The frozen Daytona image
remains published and independently verified. No separate full-image
scan is claimed. Docker builds run in the cloud.

**Remaining:** current-head CI/review, setup and qualification merges,
final publication, and ordinary local/Daytona canaries against the
actual shipped package. The user explicitly authorizes the maintainer
review override; CI remains a merge gate. No production deployment is
claimed. Provider USD remains unknown and GitHub-attributed.

## Risks

Bad credentials, missing entitlement, runtime installation and
unavailable models must remain distinct failures. A connection must not
adopt ambient credentials. The constraint migration changes accepted
provider values, with no credential-storage migration.

Current-master NewAgent fixture extraction is retained. Copilot cases
use that shared support and test both passive discovery and explicit
reconnect under the same setup lifecycle.

The onboarding retry regression shares the component suite’s
saved-connection, authenticated-model, draft, agent-list, hire and
render lifecycle fixtures. Keeping it beside the existing onboarding
failures makes adoption versus duplicate hire observable under the same
lifecycle; this is the concrete cohesion reason for the existing large
test file.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The exact serving model ID and context
window are not exposed in this task. Used for code changes, review and
tool-assisted verification.

b448710986 fix: derive startup warmth from per-layer reuse evidence (#16908)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and inspect their work.
> - Agent startup can reuse a lease, workspace, Runner, process, or
session.
> - A session ID can remain the same when other resources are new.
> - The old cold/warm label did not show these separate decisions.
> - This pull request records closed reuse receipts and derives labels
from them.
> - Reports now show partial reuse and missing evidence.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #11685. That issue tracks a specific ACPX fingerprint repair. This
change records reuse evidence across startup resources. It does not
repeat that repair.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Startup labels in the operator trace and Product E2E reports.

**Current behavior**

A cached runtime or a continuous session can suggest a warm startup even
when workspace staging or provider launch work occurs.

**Proposed behavior**

Record each layer's reuse decision and a closed reason. Record observed
provider launch counts. Use `warm`, `cold`, `partial_reuse`, or
`unknown` from those receipts. Keep old runs unknown when they have no
receipts.

## What Changed

- Add local run-log receipts for the lease, workspace, Runner, provider
process, and provider session.
- Count physical ACPX launches, including respawns. Preserve the reason
for a new process.
- Reuse native workspace adoption and session lifecycle evidence. Keep
native and bridged remote provider-process reuse and launch counts
unknown where physical evidence is absent.
- Show the per-run summary in retained results and the dashboard. Keep
missing legacy values explicit.
- Set the legacy trace boolean only for fully evidenced cold or warm
startup. Keep the operator OTLP gate. Add no first-party Telemetry.
- Test full reuse, workspace invalidation, two direct provider launches
with session continuity, and report generation.
- Start the final diagnostic write without waiting for persistence. Keep
lease cleanup independent of a stalled event sink.
- Keep remote provider evidence unknown after runtime setup fails or the
host relay starts twice.
- Align a stale Pi support-test expectation with current master profile
28 and its suite fingerprint. Keep the qualification rules unchanged.

## Verification

- Passed: all 319 runtime, startup-timing, reuse-summary, and native
workspace-history tests. Disposable local Git tests used the native Git
binary.
- Passed on the current commit: all 2,768 Runner E2E support tests
across 128 files. This includes report and history tests for generated
HTML and normalized JSON.
- Passed: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils typecheck`.
- Passed on `df60f8dbdbfcb6d80c84cd3bf563f8d58b2f9f03`: all PR CI gates,
including repository typecheck and build, all test shards, and browser
tests. Both automated reviews are 5/5. GitHub reports 55 successful
checks, one neutral review, and two skipped Storybook checks.
- The first server shard run failed because an unchanged
workspace-runtime fixture did not accept health connections within 10
seconds. Its isolated local test and the single failed-jobs rerun both
pass. This establishes recovery; the cause of the first timeout remains
unknown.
- Passed in the hosted source run on this exact commit: recursive
typecheck, token gates, the large Runner E2E typecheck, Runner E2E unit
tests, and build. The retained `source.txt` matches this PR head.
- The extra unsharded `pnpm test:run` reached its 60-minute limit (exit
124). It has no complete verdict. The broad workflow therefore reports
failure. No assertion-failure marker appears in the retained partial
log. Full-suite acceptance uses the passing canonical PR CI partitions.
A read-only inventory check found no gaps across 1,023 general server
files, 161 serialized suites, and 20 workspace projects. The separate
chat/native Runner lanes cover the excluded server files. No tests or
timeouts were weakened. The local environment has 4 GiB of memory. Use
CI for the large Runner E2E typecheck.
- The initial report tests failed because the harness could not resolve
package imports from the repository root. Relative source imports fixed
that failure.
- The first broad local run had timeouts from the environment Git
bridge. Native Git resolves the ancestry timeout and all runtime tests
pass. The added report fixture lacked its required screenshot; the
corrected report tests pass. A stale master assertion expected Pi
profile 27, while the generated profile is 28. Updated its expectation
and exact suite fingerprint; all 78 targeted support tests pass. The
clean full support run passes all 2,768 tests.
- The three review regression cases failed before repair. They showed
remote counts of zero and two, and a completed run that waited for the
final diagnostic sink. They now pass. The stalled-sink case keeps
persistence pending while the run returns, both bridge stops run once,
and the staging lock map becomes empty.
- Hosted evidence for this commit: [source
verification](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416),
[retained command logs and status
table](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39335475416/artifacts/12228829282).
All listed commands exited zero except the incomplete unsharded test
command described above.
- The physical-launch test drives the executor's spawn callback twice.
The native workspace test uses real Git repositories and verifies reuse
and invalidation. These are deterministic tests, not a paid provider
qualification campaign.

## Risks

- Consumers must handle `partial_reuse` and `unknown`. Partial evidence
no longer produces a legacy cold/warm boolean.
- Native and remote bridged provider process evidence is still
unavailable on some paths. The report shows unknown values for those
paths.
- Receipt emission is best effort. Missing receipts reduce confidence in
a label and must not change execution or settlement.
- No schema migration, first-party Telemetry event, or endpoint default
changes are included.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, used reasoning, repository tools, and code
execution. The exact provider model ID and context window are not
exposed to this session. The existing implementation checkpoint was
preserved from the earlier agent run.

DottaandPaperclip 45b67f1d93 feat: default new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner (#15993)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip lets users choose an agent harness and account.
> - The server resolves the runner for new agents.
> - Claude still needs the same ordinary native-default journey as
Codex.
> - Existing agents must retain their runner, model and account.
> - This PR defaults new Apple Silicon Claude agents to Paperclip Runner
with Opus 5.5.
> - Users can connect and work without a runner override.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs #15683. This PR depends on #15994 and precedes #15997. Related
scope: #15422, #13978 and #15224.

## What Changed

- Resolve new Apple Silicon Claude agents to `paperclip_runner`,
`provider: acpx`, `acpxAgent: claude`. Keep explicit Legacy, models,
provider routing and saved execution.
- Use `claude-opus-5-5` for ordinary Claude defaults and retain explicit
overrides.
- Reuse existing API-key/subscription connections, credential storage
and checks. Generalize the shared Advanced runner control with Claude
branding.
- Carry configured effort into the shared v9 contract. Preserve
compatible permissions, instructions, skills, timeouts and session
behavior. Require Legacy for unsupported settings.
- Qualify a new immutable managed Claude target at explicit Connect
through the existing permission-gated probe. Use fresh scoped discovery
for test and hire. Discard stale results and require an explicit Connect
after settings change.
- Retain merged Codex onboarding recovery, auth preparation,
import/effort corrections and Grok Bot gates.
- Check the Claude first-task wizard's saved default directly. Update
configuration/runtime documentation and exact Opus 5.5 accounting.

- Align hire fixtures with the merged host-environment restriction.
Native agent-authenticated hires cannot inject host env settings; both
creation endpoints verify that no extra agent is saved.

## Verification

- Updated onto master `9179d8dcc3e908c217fde4f63c9d08ccf8132eeb` through
#15994. Native input v9 carries effort while preserving v7 home modes
and v8 Muse. Codex defaults remain unchanged.
- Focused local verification passed 285 server tests, 323 UI tests, 124
setup/registry tests, and two v9 permission-pin transport cases. Direct
server/UI TypeScript checks passed. An initial 30-second hook timeout
was resolved by serial verification with a longer hook budget: all 122
credential/permission cases and 232 snapshot/environment cases pass.
Direct server TypeScript checking also passes.
- Ordinary web creation with the experiment disabled saved native
Claude, Opus 5.5 and High effort without runner/model overrides. The
actual product task and follow-up both succeeded on integrated source
`b2c9fe43f9cd3bc5dd9d22552da0148845ba71a4` with the cloud-built daemon
from `04e0202ca81387b17cbe7fd094a8338648356fe9`. The final master
reconciliation also changes shared runtime source. Historical proof
retains its source identity; a final-source cloud qualification is
running before refreshing the preview daemon.
- Both actual browser downloads were checked: v1 has three sections/six
checkboxes (451 bytes); v2 preserves the original body and adds two
Rollback checks (612 bytes). The original attachment stayed
byte-identical. The follow-up records session resume and the same
provider session. Total estimated API usage: $0.518432800, with no
pending/unpriced usage in the successful fixture.
- Fixed the live-discovered setup incompatibility: native API-key
validation no longer depends on the global Legacy Claude CLI. The
existing provider endpoint verifies the key without a paid prompt;
subscription/custom routing probes remain intact.
- Fixed security review's native-hire credential redirection:
agent-supplied URLs, proxy/launch settings and other host environment
controls are rejected before inheritance. Native credential references
remain supported and partial edits use the saved harness. Added
create/hire/update regression coverage.
- Current-head cloud CI is green. All three stack PRs have fresh
Greptile 5/5 reviews and zero unresolved review threads. Required
typecheck, test and build gates ran in cloud CI; Docker work stayed
remote. Earlier failed checks remain in their original runs.
- Docker and native release builds ran in cloud infrastructure. An
inadvertent local Rust prerequisite was stopped; no local Docker build
was run.

- The final master merge preserves task-loading, permission,
skill-retention and OpenRouter changes. Pi uses a fresh combined profile
27, preserving both historical profile-24 declarations; Copilot remains
profile 22. Focused protocol checks passed 155 cases (one skipped), the
updated Pi attestation check passed 18 (one skipped), and 91
evaluation/catalog checks passed.

- Latest-application manual continuation passed in 37.942 seconds on
`695e5c005a85bddc8711d3fcddcaf6b7e1fb64d0`, with High effort, native
Opus 5.5, Anthropic API attribution, the same resumed Claude session, an
independently checked 635-byte file and persisted Done status. It uses
the earlier verified Mac daemon; the preceding-source package
qualification passed at `dca62c7aeb4b45f0dd91a8e18d386a16a2658ef8`. That
package run predates the small TypeScript startup fix and is not
relabeled as qualification for it.
- Upgrade limitation: changed compiled sidecar identity rejected old
durable launch state and recovery hit session-open bounds before
eventually resuming. That attempt was operator-cancelled and retained;
the successful manual continuation does not qualify seamless upgrades.

- Local latency profile, Opus 5.5/High unchanged: three alternating
real-ACP loopback samples per variant reduce median provider-ready time
from 5.081s to 4.034s. The matched real API task startup improves from
5.533s to 4.348s, but total reply time changes from 17.933s to 20.221s
because agent work varies. This establishes a startup saving of about
one second, not a consistent total-reply speedup. A real candidate
follow-up passed in 20.146s and resumed the same saved session. The
loopback fixture makes no external model requests; failed initial probes
remain retained.
- The startup change passes 107 focused runtime/effort/lease tests, 53
profile checks (one skipped), TypeScript checking and the
TypeScript-only runtime build. Native hire fixture checks pass 70 tests;
their first local run retained a socket-hangup failure and stale
OpenCode expectation, both accounted for before the passing rerun.
Broader required checks run in cloud CI.

## Risks

- Missing packages, authentication rejection, unsupported settings and
unavailable models must fail explicitly. Existing agents retain saved
execution; explicit runner changes use existing revision/session
invalidation.
- Subscription follow-up remains unverified; remaining live acceptance
uses API keys per human steering. Historical accounting holds and the
separate $50 ceiling remain intact.
- The subscription acceptance limit remains explicit for review. No
Claude database migration is introduced.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code
execution and browser testing. The exact serving model ID and
context-window size are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip e6dcc6b095 Connect personal Muse through secure native execution and Vault OAuth (#16448)
Add company-scoped Muse native control, OAuth, wake receiver and recovery.

Recheck current authority after waits and before effects or receipt replay. Preserve task-read scope, assignment expiry, independent holds, nonblocking reassignment and truthful cleanup provenance.

Retain source trust on progress comments and verify current Muse V8 authority through real signed-JWT HTTP requests. Preserve the upstream trimmed ordinary authentication lookup.

Refs #16448.

Preserve captured canonical queue recovery and concurrent environment preparation while retaining the scoped Muse V8 exclusion. Normal migration 0354 and existing Muse SQL remain unchanged. Fresh current-head Greptile review is 5/5 with the project-write finding addressed. Required CI and independent technical review gate the merge; maintainer override is reserved for formal approval rules.

Recheck current Muse project-write authority after all receipt/task/run/admission waits, before creation or replay. Real PostgreSQL regressions reproduce four late effects/replays on the old route; the repaired three-file treatment passes 354 cases with no skips, and the scoped server typecheck passes. Ordinary/Dot behavior is preserved.

DottaandPaperclip cccde7122b Trace execution preparation and durable response persistence (#16419)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The server prepares an execution environment before it starts an
agent.
> - Operators need to distinguish preparation, provider wait, and
response persistence.
> - Existing preparation phases start separate traces, and the native
session trace ends before the final response is saved.
> - This pull request adds an execution-attempt trace and detailed spans
at the existing work boundaries.
> - The benefit is a measurable startup and settlement path without
changing execution policy.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Operator-configured OpenTelemetry tracing for agent preparation,
startup, and durable response storage.

**Subsystem affected**

Server orchestration, native Runner startup, and the Honeycomb run link.

**Current behavior**

Preparation phases start independent roots. Workspace lock waits,
authorization groups, runtime asset work, provider-pack fallback, and
the gap after provider completion are hard to attribute.

**Proposed behavior**

Use a server-owned async context for each execution attempt. Parent
nested work to that attempt. Link the separately sampled native session
because its ingress and queue history can begin earlier. Record
transaction entry, lock waits, grouped authorization, asset preparation,
artifact fallback, copyback, and response commit.

**Reason and benefit**

Operators can identify expensive work from recorded boundaries instead
of inferring the cause from elapsed time. Nested and concurrent
durations remain visible and must not be added together.

**Breaking changes**

No API or execution-policy change. New Observability span names and
closed count attributes are documented. The existing local
run-performance schema also records the additional provider-pack and
harness measurements.

Refs: #16178, #16205, #16330.

## What Changed

- Add `task.execution_attempt` with same-run async ownership,
independent root sampling, and native-session links.
- Measure workspace transaction entry and settlement, advisory and row
waits, source scans, reader groups, notifications, and writes.
- Measure runtime selection and each concurrent instructions, skills,
and MCP branch. Separate manifest, cache, materialization, and
verification work.
- Measure provider-pack discovery, verified reuse or upload, final
verification, and remote harness state checks.
- Measure workspace settlement, accounting, liveness, response
authorization, comment commit, and publication enqueue.
- Preserve the silent endpoint-off path, including when another library
has registered a tracer. Bound repeated detail spans to 16 per name per
attempt.
- Extend the Honeycomb run link and document the actual coverage and
remaining gaps.

## Verification

- After resolving the conflict with retained-reader batching on
`b98cdaea531c8447637cd4dcc19c61b3f5f41844`, all 61 targeted query,
authorization, workspace-preparation and trace-boundary tests passed.
The server typecheck passed. Reader tests still bound query count, avoid
loading retained run payloads and enforce fresh project grants on every
publication attempt.
- Before that base integration, the tracing/exporter group passed 855
tests with 2 optional-SDK skips across 10 files and no inherited OTLP
endpoint. It covers real PostgreSQL waits/rollback, durable response
commit, assembled heartbeat preparation, concurrent parentage, sampling
and tracer failure isolation. Native workspace/history tests passed 23
cases. These results remain supporting evidence for the unchanged
tracing paths.
- Full workspace typecheck and build passed during implementation. Full
sharded CI, release validation, E2E and Apex 5/5 passed on prior head
`8cebad80f3856dbcff6f3a6d5d34880ff77a20f2`. Fresh CI, security and Apex
review are required on the current head before merge.
- `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. No styles changed.
- Earlier CI runs exposed exact-source-expression assertions changed by
wrappers, missing run hashes on transaction-boundary spans, and sampling
fixtures without an enabled endpoint. The fixes preserve the calls, add
the declared hash and span cap, and enable tracing explicitly in the
sampling fixtures. Focused repairs passed; the full prior-head CI passed
after those repairs. Earlier failed run:
https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38729131366.
- The full local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after the base advanced
during that process. Its mixed-version results are not final-head
evidence. A full local-suite pass is not claimed.
- The old-head Superagent scan stalled at 35%. The current head has a
fresh scan; no security pass is inferred from the old pending result.
- No deployed Honeycomb acceptance is claimed by this code change.

## Risks

- Enabled tracing creates more spans. Repeated detail spans are bounded,
and inventories use group spans.
- The attempt and native session remain linked traces. Historical queue
time can precede the attempt, and nested intervals overlap.
- A committed comment proves durable server storage. Publication enqueue
and realtime dispatch do not prove external delivery or browser paint.
- New custom attributes use only the existing run hash and validated
file/byte counts. No SQL, paths, permissions, content, or exception text
is added.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The serving model ID and context window size
are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning, tools, code
editing, and code execution.

cafa25029c fix(native-runtime): recover unclaimed remote startup (#16349)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The native runtime preserves task execution across server restarts.
> - Remote workspace preparation can finish before the executor claims
its first provider attempt.
> - The recovery classifier required a provider checkpoint even when the
durable coordinator proved that execution had never started.
> - A deployment during this interval therefore left safe startup work
on a permanent recovery hold.
> - This pull request admits that narrow startup state to the existing
same-run bootstrap path. Existing execution and ownership checks remain
in force.
> - The original preparation yields when recovery owns the coordinator.
It cannot fail or clean up the recovered run.
> - Tasks can continue after this interruption without an operator retry
or a duplicate provider turn.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**What happened?**

A server deployment interrupted a prepared remote workspace before the
native executor's first claim. The coordinator had attempt zero,
controller generation zero, and no owner, process, provider event, or
checkpoint. Restart classification returned
`ambiguous_remote_recovery_evidence` and blocked the task.

**Expected behavior**

The server should recognize this durable never-claimed state and
continue the original run through normal execution admission. A prior
claim, uncertain ownership, or contradictory execution evidence must
retain the recovery hold.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Prepare a remote workspace for a native run.
2. Stop the controller before the executor commits its first claim.
3. Restart the controller and classify the running native task.
4. Observe that the old classifier blocks it because no provider
checkpoint exists.

Related: #16341 preserves remote recovery failure reasons. #16344
strengthens remote restart qualification. Neither changes admission for
an untouched remote startup.

## What Changed

- Require a server-owned fencing version written only with fresh native
identities. Older unmarked preparations stay held during rolling
upgrades; caller profile data cannot add that marker to an existing run.
- Leave the current server's active preparation with its existing
execution.
- Yield through the controller-detachment path when a different
execution owns the coordinator lease. Lease expiry does not grant
takeover authority.
- Preserve run-scoped gateway tokens during detachment so stale
preparation cannot revoke the recovered worker's tools.
- Admit a valid prepared remote workspace only when the locked
coordinator proves attempt and controller generation zero, no owner, and
no prior session or execution evidence.
- Check launch receipts and provider source events before granting
bootstrap recovery.
- Keep the original run and session. Preserve atomic recovery claims,
executor durable-state checks, and normal admission gates.
- Add real PostgreSQL regression tests for competing controllers and
seven contradictory evidence cases.
- Update recovery documentation, the run-log reason, and both capability
maps.

## Verification

- The competing-controller regressions failed before the ownership fix
and pass for both live and expired foreign leases.
- On the final revision, 77 runtime-selection, restart recovery, real
PostgreSQL, and heartbeat boundary tests pass with no skips, including
all local runner process fixtures. The full native executor file passes
all 698 tests.
- Another 91 live-run route tests pass locally. An earlier CI timeout in
that unrelated file passed on retry; the complete final-head CI passed
without that failure.
- `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and
`git diff --check`: passed locally. The map check verifies structure
only.
- Local `pnpm test:run` did not finish: an early attempt had
build-related collection failures, and later full-suite execution was
stopped after complete CI passed. Targeted suites passed after build
preparation. This is not a local full-suite pass.
- The complete [PR
workflow](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/38669996667)
passed on `2baffb3652bfeb4705a30ca3706fbda6c3d72aa4`, including all test
shards, build/typecheck, runner verification, and browser E2E. All 55
applicable review/security/CI checks succeeded; two Storybook checks
were skipped.
- [Greptile
Apex](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/16349#issuecomment-6180848957):
5/5 on the same final head, with no unresolved findings.
- No live remote provider restart is claimed by the database regression.

## Risks

- A bare executor can no longer take a foreign coordinator lease after
expiry. A verified recovery claim must transfer authority first.
- Existing preparations without the server-owned fencing marker retain
their recovery hold during rolling upgrades.
- Incorrect admission could duplicate provider work. This path requires
a positive durable never-claimed receipt, rejects contradictory launch
evidence, and keeps the executor's existing durable-root verification.
- Previously claimed or incomplete remote recovery evidence remains
blocked. This change does not clear historical terminal holds.
- No schema, API, dependency, or UI changes.

## Model Used

OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution,
and browser inspection. The exact serving snapshot ID and context window
size are not exposed in this session.

DottaandPaperclip b8ffeb973a feat(runner): add experimental Grok Bot agent participation (#16219)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip manages AI agents that perform work for a company.
> - The shared Runner owns task admission, authority, receipts and
finalization.
> - An existing Grok Bot needs to receive assignments and return results
through that Runner.
> - The Bot also needs governed access when it starts work from its own
conversation.
> - This PR adds agent-purpose MCP access and routine webhook dispatch.
> - It reuses the external-agent Rust Runner and keeps Grok capabilities
explicit.
> - The provider stays experimental until the real-client managed
journeys pass.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

**Agent or provider**
Grok Bot, distinct from the Grok Build coding runtime in #13882.

**Why this adapter is useful**
Users can assign work to an existing Bot, receive progress, questions,
documents and files in Paperclip, and let the Bot initiate work under
its agent permissions.

**How the agent is invoked**
A webhook-only routine delivers bounded references. Dedicated
named-agent OAuth and MCP provide inbound calls. Setup follows [Grok
routines](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/routines) and [custom
plugins](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins). The current
desktop app needs its Bot-generated Webhook URL navigation link when
routine-row clicks fail.

The GitHub search found related Grok Build runtime work, but no existing
Grok Bot agent provider. This extends the roadmap’s existing agent,
Runner, governance and artifact foundations.

## What Changed

- Add default-off Grok Bot participation through the shared real Rust
external backend, preserving native provider identity guarantees and
distinguishing session closure from remote termination.
- Bind agent OAuth to company, agent, client, gateway and authorizer;
recheck permissions and task-bound execution authority without
manufacturing a native identity.
- Persist routine configuration, dispatch intents, authenticated
acknowledgement and recovery holds. Store URL/key together in encrypted
secret storage, use guarded public egress, and never automatically
replay ambiguous HTTP delivery.
- Reuse native tools, durable waiting, completion assessment and review.
Add task-bound file grants through existing artifact storage; suppress
proactive echo dispatch and synchronous result wake loops.
- Enforce the current native deliverable work-mode policy at file-ticket
issuance and use. Add operator retries for confirmed rejected wakes,
with retained receipts, stable retry intent and current-authority
checks. Recovery locks bindings before routine rows. Thread Stop
resolves the selected run and its agent.
- Cancel queued and preparing Stop targets before assignment creation,
restore saved setup after a failed request and successful retry, and
publish the Grok provider descriptor schema. Advance the versioned
Copilot source declaration for the shared schema change; its
qualification remains pending.
- Filter task summaries with the shared privacy policy, preserve
feedback admission when wake delivery is blocked, reconcile settled
delivery receipts without restoring work authority, and bind every Stop
control to its displayed run. Recovery records distinguish dispatch
uncertainty from a revoked session.
- Add resumable guided setup, credential replacement, consent,
management, observed work status and stop/recovery controls, plus an
interactive Storybook journey using the production task thread, question
form and report card. Grok’s own apps remain available; Paperclip
workspace and third-party tools are deferred.

## Verification

- Five focused protocol, authorization, person MCP and Runner files: 192
tests pass. The Grok assigned-work case executes the actual Rust Runner,
saves a document, uploads/deduplicates a file and reaches ordinary
finalization.
- Proactive intake/deduplication and renewed-session recovery pass.
These use scripted clients and synthetic storage; they are not
real-provider acceptance.
- Repository typecheck, production build, token gates, map checks and
Storybook build/catalog checks pass. The local full-suite campaign was
stopped after macOS shared-memory exhaustion repeatedly prevented
embedded PostgreSQL startup. No local aggregate pass is claimed. The
first clean-worker CI run identified avatar fixture/configuration, flag
defaults, feature-card ordering and OpenAPI route-coverage gaps; all
four focused regressions pass after correction. Those regressions pass.
The latest clean-worker CI run also found a Copilot source-hash
declaration mismatch after the shared descriptor update; the corrected
declaration passes all 28 integrity tests. The next review corrections
pass 144 rendered UI tests, 21 OpenAPI tests and 82 Runner
contract/integrity/history tests. The latest database fixtures were
blocked at startup by host shared-memory exhaustion; clean-worker CI
must execute their new regressions. Full current-head CI now passes: 54
successful checks and four intentional skips. The database regression
uses the PostgreSQL driver result shape; file-policy, rejected-feedback
and lock-order cases pass on clean workers. Current-head Greptile is 5/5
with no unresolved findings.
- Rendered setup steps and outbound-only verification were walked
through in Storybook. Simulation cannot enable Done without an
authenticated-reply state.
- Actual client OAuth, continued access, reconnect and one routine wake
with an exact chat acknowledgement were observed separately. This
candidate’s live authenticated challenge, assigned/proactive workflows,
Linux managed artifact, restart and cleanup are not yet qualified. The
provider stays disabled by default.
- The separate Cloud ingress change forwards only exact task-bound
upload/download paths and preserves host identity and header stripping.
- Current Cloud policy reserves Test for pre-merge app/harness
experiments; Staging accepts only master-derived revisions. Real-client
qualification needs a supported, authorized deployment target and
remains outstanding.

## Risks

One append-only migration adds routine/dispatch state and extends shared
bindings and file tickets. The unshipped migrations were regenerated
after upstream consumed their original numbers. Rolling back code
retains the durable rows; revoke grants and inspect unknown remote
activity before resuming dispatch. Grok cannot confirm remote
termination, stream its complete transcript or report spending. Plugins
are account-wide and do not isolate credentials between Bots.
Real-client managed acceptance remains required before enabling the
experimental provider.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution and
browser/native UI tools. The exact deployment model ID and
context-window size are not exposed by this runtime.

Automatically import skills from new GitHub project repositories and update enabled sources in the background. Preserve project-derived access, saved selections, immutable execution versions and explicit pins; add legacy adoption, refresh and connection repair in Sources.

Include durable scheduling and bounded work credits, production Storybook journeys, real GitHub-to-routine acceptance receipts and final-head CI/security/Greptile qualification.

DottaandPaperclip f329b24ee1 feat: give tasks durable project-optional workspaces (#15749)
Give tasks durable company-scoped workspace bindings independent of project assignment, channel defaults and authorized repository preparation. Reuse verified input seeds and sparse output recovery while preserving trust, privacy and controller provisioning boundaries.

Full CI and E2E, Superagent, legacy checks and Greptile Apex 5/5 passed on reviewed head 753680b61c. All review findings are resolved; the PR records focused verification and historical acceptance limits.

DottaandPaperclip 2a2071340d refactor(server): extract heartbeat runtime selection (#15746)
## Thinking Path

> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Heartbeat execution prepares a runtime, dispatches work, and records
the result.
> - Earlier refactors separated workspace services, scheduling, and
completion.
> - The executor still builds native inputs and records runtime
selection inline.
> - This preparation must preserve admitted inputs and serialize with
Stop.
> - This pull request moves that phase into a typed runtime-selection
module.
> - Reviewers can inspect runtime preparation separately from dispatch
and cleanup.

## Linked Issues or Issue Description

Refs: #15732.

**What existing behavior does this improve?**

Maintainability of heartbeat runtime preparation and selection.

**Subsystem affected**

server/ — orchestration services.

**Current behavior**

The main heartbeat service has 8,128 lines. `executeRun` builds or
restores native inputs, selects sessions and sandbox lifecycle, and
records native or legacy selection inline.

**Proposed behavior**

Move this phase into
`server/src/services/heartbeat/runtime-selection.ts`. The executor calls
`selectHeartbeatRuntime` at the existing boundary and receives an
explicit selection result. The main file becomes 7,275 lines, a
reduction of 853 lines.

**Reason and benefit**

This gives runtime selection its own typed boundary and direct tests. It
preserves existing decisions, database transactions, and cleanup
ordering.

**Breaking changes**

None intended. All public heartbeat exports remain available.

## What Changed

- Move native input assembly, completion contract selection, checkpoint
lookup, runtime persistence, and native workspace-sync preparation into
`selectHeartbeatRuntime`.
- Preserve the row lock and controller lease check that serialize native
selection with cancellation.
- Report lifecycle and ownership changes to the executor immediately,
including when a later preparation step throws.
- Move sandbox lifecycle and model fallback helpers with compatible
public re-exports.
- Add 12 database-backed boundary tests. Update the existing
session-recovery source test and developer guide.

## Verification

- Structural AST comparison against current `master` confirms the
784-line selection block, moved helpers, and remaining service bodies
are unchanged after normalizing boundary callbacks. All 140 public
exports are preserved.
- On final head `2eddaa485f`, all 12 new database-backed tests and 83
existing lifecycle, selection, fallback-warning, and session regression
tests pass (95 total).
- Five executor integration cases passed before the rebase. Their
final-head rerun could not start because the local checkout was removed
during verification; no assertions ran in that last attempt.
- `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` both pass on final head.
- Local verification limitations: the full `pnpm test:run` was
attempted, then stopped after database/process startup timeouts in
concurrent local runs. Two unchanged optional real-runner session cases
timed out on the initial run and one isolated retry; they were excluded
from the 95-test focused run. CI also skips those two binary-dependent
cases.
- All CI gates pass on final head `2eddaa485f`: typecheck, build,
general and serialized tests, runner checks, E2E, and canary dry run.
- Greptile reviewed final head at 5/5 with no actionable findings.

## Risks

This boundary controls native admission and cleanup ownership. Losing an
update after a later exception could change resource cleanup. Immediate
callbacks preserve those updates. Tests cover Stop races, lost
controller leases, immutable admitted inputs, competing runtime
selection, and workspace-sync failures. The change adds no schema or API
behavior.

## Model Used

OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code editing, and command
execution. The session does not expose the exact model variant or
context window size.
