fix(ui): keep task plugin views available for manual access (#18363)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage agents and their tasks. > - The task side panel can display a plugin's agent view. > - Users need that view even while a task is idle. > - Activity currently controls both manual discovery and automatic opening. > - This pull request keeps manual access available and uses activity to request automatic opening. > - The same authorized agent viewer serves both entry points. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A task view disappeared when its run ended. Users could not select it until the current run reported matching activity and its readiness check passed. This also excluded declared manual views without an activity mapping. **Expected behavior** The task launcher offers declared views for its running or assigned agent. Selecting one uses the same viewer as the agent detail page. Matching activity and readiness open the pane and select the view by default, once per run. **Steps to reproduce** Open an idle task assigned to an agent with an installed task-panel contribution. Open the panel launcher. The view is currently missing. Related work: #18131 and #18239. ## What Changed - Return manual panel declarations independently of run activity and readiness. - Mark panels that should open automatically after matching activity and readiness. Keep existing run attribution, retry bounds, and dismissal behavior. - Keep an open viewer mounted when a run ends. Focus an already open manual view when activity starts. - Preserve saved manual tabs while plugin and initial run discovery load; remove contributions after discovery confirms they are absent. - Share the run-scoped dismissal key between the task page and panel controller so dismissed views do not reveal an empty pane. - Use the current running agent for declared manual views that have no activity mapping. - Update the plugin authoring contract and feature recipe. ## Verification - Two new regressions failed before the fix: idle discovery returned no view, and a manual contribution opened automatically. - 105 focused hook and panel tests pass. They cover idle/manual access, declarations without mappings, completion, saved-tab restoration, automatic focus, activity attribution, retry bounds, dismissal, and missing/disabled plugins. - Thirteen task-page panel integration tests pass. New regressions reproduce and fix a dismissed manual view revealing the outer pane. They cover desktop/mobile and both workspace modes, and verify that a later run can still open the view automatically. - `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs`, `node scripts/check-maps.mjs`, and `git diff --check` pass. - Local UI typecheck failed with the reused dependency cache: workspace modules/exports and generated Storybook catalog files are missing or stale. It reported no errors in the changed files. The final head passed the clean GitHub typecheck. No broad local build or repository test run was attempted. - The preceding head passed [GitHub CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41116028688), with 48 jobs succeeding and one skipped. Its final review scored 5/5 and identified a narrow saved-view restoration race. This revision adds the missing initial-run loading guard. Two delayed-response regressions failed before the correction and now pass; they cover a different assignee and an unassigned task. - The final head `bbde3a28f7ac0390da8f3fe81eb9abd2f3020695` passed [GitHub CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41119772438) and the additional [full CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/41121827023), each with 48 successful jobs and one skipped. Standard Greptile scored 5/5 on this head; both review threads are resolved. The small final loading correction used the permitted exception to another final-review cycle. - The additional full CI run initially failed the canary bundle install because npm advertised a newly published `tslib@2.9.1` archive before its tarball was available (HTTP 404). After the archive became available, one retry of the failed canary and dependent aggregate passed. No dependency or lockfile change was needed. - Hosted acceptance of this follow-up requires merge and deployment; the earlier hosted activation checks cover the previously merged behavior. ## Risks Manual views can now open while idle or before readiness. Each viewer retains its normal authorization and status handling. Declarations without an activity mapping now appear in the launcher. Automatic opening still requires authenticated activity and the authorized readiness result. Saved tabs wait for plugin discovery before removal. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository inspection, terminal tools, browser verification, and code execution. The exact serving variant and context window size are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Map runtime activity to authorized task plugin panels (#18131)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and tasks. > - Plugins contribute views to the task sidebar. > - A ready view can belong to an earlier task. > - Runner records activity under its authenticated run. > - This PR maps that activity to installed task-panel declarations. > - The sidebar checks readiness after current-run use and restores use after reconnect. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on merged contract #18129 and Runner publisher #18050. This PR targets master and is ready for review. Earlier combined verification is retained in [the verification archive](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18050#issuecomment-6489369676). **Subsystem affected** Run-event reads, plugin task contributions and the task sidebar. **Problem or motivation** Readiness polling can show a view left ready by another task. Reload and reconnect must recover current-run use without losing concurrent live activity. **Proposed solution** Map recorded activity to installed task-panel declarations. Merge authorized history and live activity, then perform bounded readiness checks for the running agent. Preserve the existing read-only view. ## What Changed - Add optional `{ namespace, activityKey }` activation mappings to task-panel declarations. Legacy declarations remain valid but contribute no task panel. - Add `view=plugin-panels` to the existing run-events route. Preserve run-read and telemetry-read authorization, secret redaction and private-run denial. Map activity to installed contributions and return at most 128 panel identities. - Scope activation caches to current panel versions and activity declarations. Preserve unchanged panels during unrelated plugin updates and history reads. - Merge history and live hints without losing concurrent activations. Filter by company, task, run and agent. Restore history on mount and reconnect. - Replace periodic availability checks with up to three readiness attempts after activity. Fresh activity restarts settled transient failures. Pending checks, successful readiness and HTTP 4xx failures are left alone. - Reuse live run updates with the panel cache key. Recover only panel history after a pending subscription read. Mark expected not-ready query results so the global error reporter skips them; real failures remain reportable. - Preserve current-run dismissal and the read-only plugin view. Update manifest comments and producer/consumer documentation. ## Verification - Current head: `5e04d757c`, based on master `09c05c550`. Range comparison confirmed all six feature commits were unchanged by the rebase. The final follow-up keys readiness by the plugin installation ID and availability path. - `cd ui && node ../node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run src/hooks/useTaskPluginPanels.test.tsx` — all 45 cases passed. `cd ui && node ../node_modules/typescript/bin/tsc -b` passed. - The shared query-client and live-update recovery selection passed 96 cases on `49c544cd2`. Token gates passed before the final hook-only changes. - Earlier focused verification passed 57 manifest cases, 69 database/history cases, event-registry cases and route authorization cases, including private-run denial. - Regression coverage includes subscription/history races, task changes during recovery, unfocused run completion, bounded readiness retries, denied reads, expected not-ready responses, changed activity mappings, unchanged panel preservation, old cache scopes, and same-version route or installation changes. - [Current-head CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40942001707) passed: 54 successful checks, two skips, no failures or pending checks. - [Standard and final review](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18131#issuecomment-6489842168) both scored 5/5 on `5e04d757c`. The final review used the Apex tier, added no comments, and left no unresolved findings. The PR is conflict-free and ready for review. - Local checks stay targeted. GitHub CI provides the broad build, test, typecheck, browser and Runner coverage. No deployment or live-provider acceptance is claimed. <details> <summary>Retained failures and recovery evidence</summary> - `ac9329548` twice failed a browser reload assertion while conversation history was concealed. Master fixed its readiness wait in #17923. The approve journey then passed locally on `fea63a418` with installed Chrome (1 passed, 39 seconds). All eight browser shards passed in later CI. The browser test is outside this diff. - A canary checkout failed with Git HTTP 408; its unchanged-head retry passed. - `de07d09fa` failed the mobile Cases card click after a ten-second stability wait. The same read-only journey passed locally on that exact head (1 passed, 26 seconds). Its unchanged-head CI retry passed 22 cases, with one skip. The original artifact is retained; the cause of that click timeout is not established. - [CI on `49c544cd2`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40903679075) passed 54 checks with two skips. CI also passed on `de07d09fa` after the recorded retry. - The `1e59ab441` merge checkout passed all browser and server suites. Runner shard 2 passed 2,252 cases and timed out waiting for a controller-recovery command. The test had landed on master in #18161 after the former branch base. Rebasing aligned the local checkout with that code; Runner shard 2 then passed on `fcf7380d3`. The original timeout cause remains unproven; no unrelated timeout was changed. - [CI on `fcf7380d3`](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40940235193) recorded runner shutdown signals in typecheck and a workspace shard. A chat recovery test observed a null wake deadline, and one Runner transport fixture failed during close. Those separate assertion failures remain unexplained. All of those jobs passed on the final readiness-key head. Those later passes establish recovery; they do not prove the cause of the earlier assertion failures. - Local browser setup first stopped at pnpm version-download verification, then a sandbox IPC restriction, then a missing bundled browser. Installed pnpm 9.15.4 and Chrome completed the journeys. No dependency files were changed. - Earlier optional-property TypeScript errors were corrected. Embedded PostgreSQL needed its install hook run from its package directory. Older CI also recorded fixture-cleanup lock timeouts, attention-fixture timeouts, and canceled server shards after runner shutdown. The parent fixed its FIFO snapshot-copy failure before merge. The linked verification archive retains earlier combined evidence. </details> ## Risks Activity is a hint and grants no access. Missing plugins, denied reads and unavailable views contribute no panel. Older runs without activity records show no task plugin tab. A used view stays available for the running task; reconnect reconciles readiness. Matching producer and consumer builds are required. No migration, dependency, image publication or deployment is included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, repository tools and code execution. The exact serving snapshot is not exposed. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g.

Record runtime activity under Runner authority (#18050)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents and tasks. > - Runner owns each authenticated run and its provider process. > - Runtime clients need to report successful activity in that run. > - A retained process can outlive a run, so an operation needs current authority. > - This PR captures that authority before the operation and records activity afterward. > - Core can consume the event through the existing run stream. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Builds on merged #18129 and targets master. The dependent consumer is #18131. Test stability fixes were separated into merged #18128. Earlier combined-head verification remains in [the archive](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/18050#issuecomment-6489369676). **Subsystem affected** Runner activity recording and provider command environments. **Problem or motivation** A retained provider process can complete an operation after its original run ends. Runtime clients need a host-attributed event and a helper that works inside the provider sandbox. **Proposed solution** Capture opaque Runner context before use. Publish a structured notification after success. Runner checks current authority and records `runtime.activity.recorded`. ## What Changed - Add `notification-context` and `record-activity CONTEXT NAMESPACE ACTIVITY_KEY`. Rotate context on warm attachment and process recovery. Accept no caller run ID. - Use one private named pipe. Reuse Runner's bounded JSON-line reader. Serialize concurrent publishers with a read-only lock. A blocking reader queues at most 128 records; the existing control loop handles at most 16 per pass. - Grant Codex access to the exact helper, descriptor, lock and pipe. Preserve other filesystem and network limits. Preserve host discovery values through provider launch boundaries and reject configured-environment overrides. - Update source identities to Pi 34, Copilot 81 and Grok 12. Keep historical identity fixtures and recovery behavior. ## Verification - Targeted release notification and sandbox-policy tests: seven passed. They cover run rotation, recovery, Unicode limits, concurrent writers, malformed and partial records, bounded queues, failed persistence and fixed-path cleanup. - Real CLI integration and pinned Codex 0.160.0 sandbox checks: passed. The sandbox check uses no model, credential or network call. It verifies activity recording while unrelated state reads and parent-directory writes remain denied. - ACPX profile generator check, formatting and diff checks: passed. - Rebased onto master `31b927e30` at head `64d0248a8`. Master used the same profile versions, so the resolution preserves its Pi 33, Copilot 79 and Grok 11 fixtures byte-for-byte and creates new identities. All identity checks pass. Five targeted provider/environment/recovery files pass 168 tests with one existing skip; the Rust Pi admission regression passes. The notification module and Codex sandbox implementation are byte-identical to the tested pipe head `671373fe0`. - Removed the mailbox traversal reported by security review. Its regression replaces the pipe path with a 100-level tree and an unreadable leaf. Shutdown preserves the leaf, performs no traversal and completes promptly, including with a partial record. - An initial targeted test failed because its run-rotation fixture updated config without updating durable state. The corrected fixture passes. Runner also rejects inconsistent run bindings. - Previous head `26abbf62b` passed Runner, build and browser CI. Server shard 11/12 failed in unchanged `attention-service.test.ts`: cleanup/test timeouts were followed by a duplicate `ATQ` fixture key. The final head needs fresh CI and review. - CI on `64d0248a8` completed with 52 successful checks and four intentional skips. Runner Vitest shard 1/2 failed when retained-state copies encountered the live FIFO; the aggregate also failed. Standard review scored 4/5 and found relative pipe paths plus late context publication. Follow-up `5c3f14d32` places IPC in a private canonical temporary directory and publishes context before welcome commands. Its relative-state CLI test, two authenticated reconnect cases, seven notification/policy cases and real Codex sandbox pass. One affected retained-settlement case passes with the matching release binary; the other 18 cases remain for CI. The sandbox denies sibling-directory and lock writes. All build, test and security checks pass on `5c3f14d32`; standard review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. The requested Apex review is 5/5 on this exact head, with no findings or unresolved threads. - Earlier broad test results in the archive apply to their recorded source revisions. Per the requested workflow, final local checks stay targeted; GitHub CI supplies broad coverage. - After Apex completed, master advanced again and conflicted on Copilot identity. Head `e94a9359d` is rebased on master `8ac5a128e`; it preserves the published Copilot 80 fixture and uses Copilot 81. The notification module, Codex sandbox and durable control-loop code are byte-identical to Apex-reviewed `5c3f14d32`. All 131 targeted installation/compatibility/recovery cases and identity generator checks pass. All 55 checks pass with four intentional skips on the rebased head. Standard review is 5/5 with no unresolved threads. Apex is 5/5 on `e94a9359d`, with zero findings and no unresolved threads. GitHub confirms this head is conflict-free and ready for review. ## Risks Activity remains an optional hint and grants no access. A successful helper exit means publication to the pipe; Runner persists accepted events through its existing durable outbox. Full queues, unavailable helpers or failed writes can drop a hint without failing the operation. Context reads are local and do not wait for the control loop. Publishers have a 500 ms lock deadline and a 2 KiB record limit. IPC lives outside durable state. Idle transport blocks; cleanup removes its fixed files and empty private directory. The host must provide `/usr/bin/mkfifo`. Rebuild matching Runner/provider artifacts for the updated source identities. No dependency, migration, live provider call or deployment is included.

Support plugin panels in task sidebars (#17796)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Task side panels keep live work beside the conversation.
> - Plugins can already provide agent detail tabs.
> - Those tabs have no generic way to appear beside the task that is
using the agent.
> - This pull request adds an optional task-side-panel declaration to
agent detail tabs.
> - The plugin owns the label, component and availability. Core supplies
the task's running agent.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What existing behavior does this improve?**
Access to plugin-contributed live views from task chat.
**Subsystem affected**
Plugin manifest validation, slot discovery, and task side-panel
UI/state.
**Current behavior**
Agent detail-tab contributions appear on agent pages. A task cannot
offer the same view through a plugin-owned availability decision.
**Proposed behavior**
An agent detail tab can declare `taskSidePanel: { availabilityPath }`.
Core substitutes the running agent into the plugin-local path. A
declared board GET route scoped to that agent returns `{ available:
boolean }`. Available contributions appear in desktop and mobile task
side panels.
**Reason and benefit**
Keep the task and its live plugin views together. Preserve plugin
ownership of provider protocols and product behavior. Core contains no
concrete plugin identifiers, routes, labels or readiness rules.
**Breaking changes**
None. The field is optional. Existing contributions remain unchanged.
Missing, disabled or unavailable plugins add no panel.
**Additional context**
Related: #17111 established the agent detail-tab and scoped API
extension surfaces. Roadmap and related PR searches found no duplicate
of this extension.
## What Changed
- Extend the manifest with optional task-panel metadata. Validate safe
plugin-local paths and require a declared board GET route with
agent-scoped authorization.
- Discover and load only opted-in agent contributions. Poll their
generic availability responses and mount the existing components with
agent context.
- Add generic panel tabs, launcher entries, dismissal and inactive-view
removal in desktop/mobile task chat.
- Reuse the existing live-run polling guard so idle tasks with a healthy
live connection stop polling.
- Add provider-neutral fixtures, schema/authorization tests, task tests
and SDK/feature documentation.
## Verification
- PASS: 301 focused tests including the full task-detail file, generic
panel discovery, persistence, slot loading and manifest validation.
Regressions cover POST-before-GET route order, mobile drawer dismissal,
recovery without focus and the absence of the hidden desktop task panel
on mobile.
- PASS: UI and shared-package typechecks; production UI build; token
gates, feature-map and module-boundary checks; diff and secrets/PII
review.
- PASS on final head: all 795 UI files / 9,186 tests, and all 95
shared-package files / 1,038 tests. Commands: `node
node_modules/vitest/vitest.mjs run --project @paperclipai/ui
--maxWorkers 3` and the corresponding `--project @paperclipai/shared`
command with local socket access.
- On the final head, server shards 7/12 and 10/12 and workspace shard
a-1/2 were interrupted by runner shutdown/communication loss. GitHub
reported infrastructure failures; no assertion failure was surfaced in
the available diagnostics. The queued summary was cancelled, then `gh
run rerun --failed` successfully requested retries for only those three
jobs. They are currently queued for CI runners; the 50 successful checks
remain passing. Interrupted attempts are not counted as passing.
[Final-head CI and
retry](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40396870920).
- Earlier verification exposed an empty-panel rerender loop, which was
fixed. The sandboxed combined run also failed five shared port-registry
tests because it could not bind loopback listeners; the full shared
rerun with socket access passed. These earlier failures are retained
here rather than reported as passing runs.
- Full workspace typecheck/build were attempted with pinned pnpm 9 after
resolving the initial local package-manager setup. Both stop at the
unchanged Runner Rust step because `cargo` is not installed. Full local
workspace checks are not reported as passing; final CI must provide
those broader checks.
- No live provider or plugin-specific transport acceptance is claimed by
Core's synthetic fixtures.
## Risks
- Availability is polled every three seconds only while an authorized
running agent exists. Plugins own the side effects and meaning of that
read.
- A view uses the running agent's context. It is not a separate per-task
resource.
- Optional metadata adds no backend endpoint or permission bypass. The
host requires existing board and agent authorization.
- Reverting the optional contract and UI integration removes task panels
without a data migration.
## Model Used
OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with reasoning, repository tools and code
execution. The exact backend snapshot ID and context window size are not
exposed by this session.

Support installed default project workspace providers (#17247)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Storage plugins already own project storage and task checkout preparation. > - Core only selected these plugins through an explicit project policy. > - Installation could therefore leave new and existing projects on incompatible Core preparation. > - This pull request adds one generic manifest declaration and one shared effective-policy resolver. > - Project configuration shows inheritance while durable workspace bindings retain their owners. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin contracts, project configuration, and execution workspace preparation. **Problem or motivation** An installed storage provider cannot become the company default. Projects without an explicit provider keep Core preparation, even when their execution environment cannot use a Core Git checkout. **Proposed solution** A provider declares supported `workspaceProvider.defaultForProjects` mode and strategy. Company-enabled installations supply inherited defaults. Explicit plugin selections and explicit Core/local (`storageProviderPluginId: null`) win. Conflicting defaults require an operator choice. The declaration and implementation contain no provider-specific identifiers. **Alternatives considered** Rewriting every project would lose the distinction between inheritance and overrides. Selecting by worker health would silently change storage on an outage. **Roadmap alignment** Extends the existing workspace and sandbox provider contracts. The roadmap has no duplicate default-provider implementation. Related public work includes #17243, which covers prepared execution directories rather than provider selection. ## What Changed - Add a validated generic default-provider declaration and document it in the SDK. - Resolve provider selection and Git defaults consistently in project responses, source selection, heartbeat source resolution, reservation, and preparation. - Keep stored policy separate from effective configuration. Add the normal project configuration selector for inheritance, explicit plugins, and Core/local. - Preserve existing local and plugin workspace ownership. Pin selection through preparation and keep provider failures visible. - Add database, API, manifest, heartbeat, and UI regressions. Update the verification maps. ## Verification - Targeted Vitest runs cover manifest validation, project defaults and API access, explicit overrides, existing ownership, new/imported task inheritance, heartbeat routing, source-free tasks, selection pinning during setup, and UI configuration. - Combined policy, provider integration, and heartbeat run: 58 tests pass; 60 unrelated cases excluded. After the final shared-provider fallback fix, all 47 policy tests pass, including shared and operator-mode regressions. - Server and UI TypeScript checks, SDK build, verification-map validation, credential-pattern scan, added-comment scan, and `git diff --check` pass. - A downstream integration uses this Core resolver and preparation service with a real storage hook and mocked remote infrastructure. A new Git project reaches the hook without a stored provider ID. - Standard Greptile and Apex both scored 5/5 on |

Add plugin-owned project storage and task workspaces (#17001)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks can use isolated repository workspaces. > - Core currently prepares those repositories on its own filesystem. > - A storage provider may only expose repositories inside remote agent computers. > - Project storage and task workspace preparation must have one provider owner. > - This pull request adds that contract and keeps execution as a separate plugin interface. > - Core keeps authorization, durable task bindings, and lifecycle fences. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin SDK, project workspace policy, heartbeat preparation, execution leases, and workspace lifecycle. **Problem or motivation** Core cannot prepare a task workspace when its repository storage is unavailable on the Core host. An execution lease must not be required just to prepare persistent storage. **Proposed solution** Let one plugin provide project resource lifecycle and workspace prepare, inspect, restore, and remove behavior. Core reserves a task workspace before it calls the plugin. The plugin returns an opaque durable reference. The matching execution plugin receives that reference on its task RPC. **Alternatives considered** Preparing repositories on Core would require a provider mount on Core. Preparing them only during task launch would tie persistent workspace lifecycle to execution leases and agent availability. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the remote provider model in ROADMAP.md. Related execution work is in #16978. This PR does not replace that task bridge. Native execution of managed storage requires the bridge; this change fails closed when it is absent. ## What Changed - Add one storage provider declaration with supported modes/strategies, a capability, a validated RPC contract, and a test harness. - Persist provider ownership, repository revision, and execution-workspace identity before external effects. Reconcile retries with a stable operation ID. - Prepare provider storage before environment acquisition. Keep Core filesystem preparation out of this path. - Pin the durable reference to the matching execution plugin and validate the lease binding before task dispatch. - Route inspection, reopen, and removal through the existing lifecycle process. Keep local data when remote recovery is uncertain. - Keep the application database pool free during lifecycle locks. Preserve pending workspace selections, validate source edits before retirement, and retry unfinished closed storage cleanup. - Protect provider metadata and live repository sources from caller edits. Storage edits retire only closed records with confirmed removal; retired records cannot reopen. ## Verification - Current head `8214b3ca5`: all 25 provider lifecycle tests pass with `maxConnections=1`. They cover preparation, inspection, reopening, removal, a paused provider with responsive ordinary SQL and a competing source edit, pending selection preservation, rejected source edits, cleanup retry scheduling, and providers that cache operation results, and committed cleanup notifications for storage intent and recovered state. - Final frozen-tree lifecycle run on `8214b3ca5`: all 318 tests passed in 10 files, covering workspace services, reopen, compaction, task binding, project sources, heartbeat preparation, display caching, and source locks. - Direct server `tsc --noEmit` passes. The SDK build and all 128 SDK tests passed during initial verification; later SDK changes are documentation only. - Full CI on the previous head `ec5c7209a` passed all 55 applicable checks; 2 conditional checks skipped. Standard Greptile reviewed current head `342e6d9c3` at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. All 55 applicable CI checks passed on `342e6d9c3`; 2 conditional checks skipped. The Slack browser and CLI startup jobs passed on their single unchanged-head rerun. Its Apex review returned 4/5 with one pending-restoration issue. Commit `1b58943b1` reconciles that durable intent before cleanup, advances the generation without reopening the Core row, and blocks direct removal or retirement while intent remains unresolved. Standard Greptile reviewed `1b58943b1` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 54 applicable CI checks passed on `1b58943b1`; 3 conditional checks skipped. The chat job passed on its single unchanged-head rerun. Apex then returned 4/5 for a missing cleanup wake after recovery. Commit `8214b3ca5` atomically registers cleanup intent before storage intent and recovery-result writes. Its provider test observes real committed notification hints and the visible advanced generation. Standard Greptile reviewed `8214b3ca5` at 5/5 with no new findings. All 55 applicable current-head CI checks passed on the first run; 2 conditional checks skipped. Final Apex verification completed at 5/5 on this exact head: 38 files reviewed, no new comments, and no unresolved threads. The PR is ready for review and mergeable. - The first Apex review found five issues after a standard 5/5: application-pool starvation, stale pending selections, retirement during rejected source edits, lost cleanup retries, and reused inspection identities. Commits `6d72e7fd4` and `342e6d9c3` fix each with regression coverage. Archive lock waits use dedicated connections, and source edits fail promptly if the lifecycle is busy. Retirement compares normalized values. The normalized-source regression initially failed with the raw-value comparison; after moving the check after normalization, a clean provider-suite rerun passed all 24 tests at that stage. Those threads are resolved; the earlier Apex 0/5 is not a passing acceptance result. - Earlier local integration attempts could not bind localhost inside the sandbox. The same suites passed with permission to start local PostgreSQL. - The earlier broad local `pnpm test:run` overlapped edits and reported stale-revision and checkout-path/Git-fixture failures. It was not a final-tree result. Full CI subsequently passed; the original local failure remains part of verification history. - Local repository-wide typecheck/build cannot complete because `cargo` is unavailable. Direct server TypeScript checks and affected tests pass; full Rust and build validation comes from CI. - An earlier browser run on `ff918c5a8` failed in the unchanged case-filter journey: expected “Done,” received “All statuses,” with an announcement handler recorded during the assertion. The cause is not confirmed. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39500611857/job/118896954508) remains verification history. The unchanged shard passed in the next full CI run on `ec5c7209a`; no UI or fixture change was made. - Current-head browser shard 2 failed waiting five seconds for the mocked Slack setup Success heading. This PR changes neither that UI nor its fixture. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021232) remains verification evidence. The cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-shard rerun passed; no UI or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The workspace test shard passed its 3,978 general tests, then its CLI company-import/export fixture timed out after 30 seconds waiting for startup health before creating any company or workspace. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39506070513/job/118916021855) remains verification history. The child reached external-PostgreSQL startup without exiting or reporting an exception. Its cause is not confirmed; the single unchanged-job rerun passed, including the CLI fixture. No startup or fixture change was made, and the original cause remains unconfirmed. - The new cached-removal regression initially failed because its fake worker advertised availability for unrelated fixture plugins, so another workspace changed its fake checkout state. Worker availability now matches the fixture plugin; the complete 25-test provider suite passes. - On `1b58943b1`, the chat shard timed out polling for one conversation after an authorized GitHub description edit. [The failed job](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39510521657/job/118930193418) remains evidence. The exact case passes locally against PostgreSQL (1 passed, 1,380 unrelated cases skipped), and this PR changes neither that test nor its handler. The original cause is unconfirmed; the single unchanged-job CI rerun passed without a code or fixture change. The original cause remains unconfirmed. - The diff was checked for credentials, private references, and generated artifacts. ## Risks This is an additive provider contract with no database migration. Existing projects keep their local behavior unless their policy selects a storage plugin. A selected provider must be ready and enabled. Unknown or unsafe cleanup fails closed. Managed native execution depends on #16978. Core refuses a host Runner fallback. Providers must fence lifecycle generations, preserve ambiguous retries, and report remote recovery honestly. Provider-specific live storage and guest mount qualification remain separate from these Core contract tests. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6), with repository inspection, code execution, and tests. feat(plugins): support image catalogs and persistent application overlays (#13646)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Plugins extend the application without adding each integration to
Core.
> - A downstream image needs a way to supply prebuilt plugins.
> - Some plugin UI must stay mounted as users move between pages.
> - This change adds an image catalog and a persistent application slot.
> - Operators can upgrade or remove these plugins through their image
and configuration.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Plugin packaging, activation and application UI.
**Problem or motivation**
The built-in plugin catalog is fixed in Core source. Downstream images
cannot add entries through an explicit catalog. Existing page slots also
cannot preserve a small application overlay across route changes.
**Proposed solution**
Read a bounded catalog of prebuilt plugins from the image. Verify its
files before importing manifests. Use the existing managed selection and
plugin lifecycle. Add an `appShellOverlay` slot with account and company
cleanup.
**Alternatives considered**
A downstream fork adds merge work. Script injection provides no plugin
lifecycle. A separate runtime download system adds a second distribution
channel.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the existing plugin system. Related PR #9006 covers runtime
install replication; this change covers immutable image contents. PR
#12555 covers CLI scaffolding. Neither provides this catalog or
application slot. The maintainer requested this work directly.
## What Changed
- Validate catalog identities, confined paths, package versions and
bundle hashes before importing code.
- Apply image selection to persisted plugin installs, including removal
and rollback. Adopt the verified image path from existing npm/local
installs and bind runtime worker/UI entrypoints to verified package
declarations.
- Mount application overlays in both UI shells. Preserve route state and
clear it on account, company and onboarding changes.
- Restrict service-worker offline storage/fallback to hashed public
assets in a separate cache namespace; exclude application HTML and
extension/API data, including after worker restart.
- Document the packaging contract, trust model and rollback
requirements.
## Verification
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm
check:token-gates`. Affected server/UI typechecks and builds, plus token
gates, passed again after rebasing onto current master; the 124 focused
tests also passed after rebase.
- Latest focused verification: 124 tests in nine files passed for
catalog/reconciliation/loader, overlay lifecycle, Layout and
service-worker policy. The broader UI/shared/SDK run passed 7,204 tests
in 690 files with canonical `TMPDIR`.
- Real disposable Core/PostgreSQL: catalog install, selection removal,
0.1.0→0.1.1→0.1.0, same-version npm/legacy-path adoption, and
preservation of disabled status passed. Added permissions entered
`upgrade_pending`, withheld UI across restart, and activated only after
explicit operator enable.
- Real Chromium: desktop/mobile layout, route draft retention and
Escape/focus passed with mocked extension responses. A persistent
browser restart retained public hashed-asset offline fallback while
refusing seeded legacy/current private entries and legacy HTML.
- Full `pnpm test:run`: 12,539 passed; 17 failed across six existing
files, stopping later phases. macOS read-only directory renames fail in
runtime-skill-cache and company-skills-service; email tests require an
absent local AgentMail fixture. Native runner/comment-redaction passed
in isolation after temporary Rust setup; agent-conversations also passed
in isolation. No unrelated source was changed to hide failures.
- After rebase, two unchanged chat timing tests failed in CI and passed
locally in isolation. Their CI shard passed on its single retry. All
other current-head CI jobs passed on the initial run; review is 5/5 with
no unresolved threads.
- No live deployment or external plugin service was used.
## Risks
- Plugins are trusted code. The catalog detects packaging errors; it
does not authenticate an untrusted image builder.
- Invalid catalogs fail startup. Images must contain the catalog and
bundles together, with stable directories.
- A host older than this contract lacks the activation guard. Disable
added plugins and remove their configuration keys before reverting to
it.
- Offline navigation now returns 503 instead of replaying cached
application HTML. Only public build assets have offline fallback.
- Rolling back an unapproved permission change retains the approval
gate; review the current manifest and explicitly enable it. A reduced
permission set cannot establish prior approval or prior enabled status.
- Plugin data migrations need their own rollback policy. This change
retains installed records and does not reverse migrations.
## Model Used
- OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), model ID `gpt-6`, with repository inspection,
code execution and browser verification. The runtime does not expose an
exact context-window size.

fix(ui): use HTTP-safe clipboard copy everywhere (#10875)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators often open self-hosted Paperclip over plain HTTP on a LAN or private network. > - Browser Clipboard API writes are not reliable in that insecure context. > - Paperclip already has one shared helper with a legacy copy fallback, but many current copy actions bypass it. > - This pull request routes every core UI copy action and the first-party workspace-diff plugin through the shared helper. > - The benefit is consistent copy behavior on HTTPS, localhost, and plain-HTTP private deployments. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #3529. This change supersedes the stale prior attempt in #3531. Current master has more copy surfaces and a first-party plugin UI bridge that the prior branch does not cover. ## What Changed - Replaced direct Clipboard API writes and duplicate fallback implementations across the current core UI with `copyTextToClipboard`. - Added an HTTP-safe clipboard function to the plugin UI SDK and wired the host bridge to the same implementation. - Migrated the first-party workspace-diff plugin to the plugin SDK clipboard function. - Added unit coverage for native rejection fallback and plugin host delegation. - Added a source-level regression test that rejects new direct clipboard writes outside the shared implementation. - Documented the plugin UI clipboard function. ## Verification - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ...` for 14 affected suites: 164 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run tests/ui-clipboard.test.ts` in `packages/plugins/sdk`: 1 test passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r typecheck`: passed for 31 workspace projects. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm test:run`: passed. - `NODE_ENV=production pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed with all gates clean. ## Risks Low risk. Secure contexts still use the modern Clipboard API. Plain HTTP and rejected modern writes use the existing `execCommand("copy")` fallback. That API is deprecated, but it is the compatibility path required for insecure contexts. The change has no schema, API, or visual design effect. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. Reasoning, tool use, repository editing, test execution, and GitHub CLI access were enabled.

External object references across issue surfaces (#8512)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to coordinate AI agents, issues, approvals, comments, and work products. > - The involved subsystem is issue context: markdown links, issue properties, related work, lists, filters, inbox/sidebar status, and plugin-provided external context. > - The gap is that URLs to external systems currently remain mostly plain links, so humans and agents must manually open them to understand status, identity, and liveness. > - This matters because external work objects such as GitHub issues and pull requests are part of the operational state of a Paperclip company. > - The implementation keeps core provider-neutral: shared contracts, storage, sync, routes, and UI surfaces live in core while providers can contribute detection and status resolution. > - This pull request adds the external object reference foundation, GitHub provider support, issue-surface rendering, filters, sidebar/list/inbox signals, and test/story coverage. > - The benefit is that linked external work becomes inspectable Paperclip context without hardcoding every provider directly into the UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this work. Feature request: - Problem: URLs in Paperclip issues, comments, documents, and related surfaces do not expose provider status or object identity inline. - Proposed behavior: detect supported external object URLs, persist normalized references, refresh provider status, and render concise status-aware links across issue surfaces. - Users affected: board users, agents, and maintainers who triage issues containing external work links. - Acceptance: external object references are company-scoped, provider-extensible, visible in key issue surfaces, filterable where relevant, and covered by focused shared/server/UI tests. Related PR search: - No open duplicate PRs found for `external object references`. - Closed related prior attempt: #4556. ## What Changed - Added shared external-object contracts, validators, status/liveness helpers, and plugin protocol declarations. - Added database schema and additive migrations for external objects, source mentions, and display metadata. - Added server services/routes for detecting, syncing, summarizing, refreshing, and resolving external objects across issues, documents, comments, projects, and plugins. - Added a GitHub external-object provider plus plugin SDK authoring docs. - Wired UI presentation across markdown links, comments, issue chat, documents, properties, related work, issue rows, filters, inbox/sidebar badges, and Storybook stories. - Rebasing cleanup: moved the branch onto current `master`, repaired stale worktree provision config, hardened environment-sensitive tests/mocks, and removed committed screenshot artifacts from the PR branch to keep the reviewable file set below tool limits. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/external-objects.test.ts server/src/__tests__/external-object-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/external-objects-service.test.ts ui/src/components/ExternalObjectPill.test.tsx ui/src/lib/external-objects.test.ts` passed after rebasing: 5 files, 56 tests. - Historical branch verification before this PR creation included `pnpm test:run`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, and `pnpm build`; this PR body does not claim those were rerun after the final rebase. ## Risks - Medium: this adds a new cross-surface sync path on issue/document/comment writes. The implementation uses safe sync wrappers so external-object failures warn instead of blocking core mutations. - Medium: the migrations introduce new tables and indexes. They are additive and company-scoped. - Medium: provider-specific URL parsing can miss or misclassify edge cases. Shared canonicalization tests and provider tests cover current GitHub shapes. - Low: UI badge/filter behavior could add visual noise for object-heavy issues; component tests and Storybook stories cover the intended surfaces. > Roadmap checked: `ROADMAP.md` references the plugin system as the current extension path and does not list a duplicate core feature. Related long-range docs discuss external references, work products, preview URLs, and plugin extension points; this PR implements the scoped external-object reference foundation. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding-agent runtime, with shell and GitHub CLI tool use. Reasoning mode: medium. Exact deployed runtime model ID and context window were not exposed in the environment. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add collapsible sidebar rail and takeover panes (#7824)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source control plane people use to manage AI agents, work, and company context. > - The board UI sidebar is the main way operators keep orientation across companies, projects, agents, issues, and settings. > - The existing fixed expanded sidebar competes with route-specific navigation, especially company settings and plugin routes that bring their own contextual sidebar. > - A collapsible primary rail preserves global navigation while giving contextual pages more horizontal room. > - This pull request adds a persisted collapsed rail, hover/focus peek, keyboard toggle, and a secondary sidebar takeover model for settings and plugin `routeSidebar` surfaces. > - The benefit is a denser board shell that keeps the app rail available without replacing it when a route needs its own navigation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Paperclip issue: PAP-10638 Create collapsible sidebar branch. Related GitHub PR found during duplicate search: #3838 (`feat/collapsible-sidebar`) covers a similar sidebar area but is a different head branch and implementation. This PR intentionally packages the work from `PAP-10638-collapsable-sidebar` into one reviewable branch. Problem description: The board shell needs a first-class collapsed sidebar mode. Contextual surfaces such as company settings and plugin route sidebars should not replace the global app sidebar; they should collapse the app sidebar to a rail and render their contextual navigation beside it. ## What Changed - Added desktop collapsed/sidebar-peek state to `SidebarContext`, including persisted user pins, route collapse requests, and forced collapse for secondary-sidebar routes. - Replaced the old resizable sidebar pane with `SidebarShell`, which supports a fixed 64px rail, persisted expanded width, keyboard/pointer resizing, and hover/focus peek overlay behavior. - Updated `Sidebar`, sidebar nav items, project/agent sections, badges, and account/company menu presentation for expanded, collapsed, and peeking states. - Added `RequestCollapsedSidebar` and `SecondarySidebar` so routes and plugin `routeSidebar` slots can request contextual sidebar layouts without replacing the primary app sidebar. - Wired company settings and plugin route sidebars into the secondary-pane takeover model. - Added focused Vitest coverage for sidebar state precedence, shell sizing, nav item rail rendering, keyboard shortcuts, layout takeover behavior, and route collapse requests. - Updated plugin authoring docs/spec references for route sidebar behavior. ## Verification Targeted local verification passed: ```sh NODE_ENV=test pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/context/SidebarContext.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarShell.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/components/RequestCollapsedSidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarNavItem.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarAgents.test.tsx ui/src/components/SidebarProjects.test.tsx ui/src/components/KeyboardShortcutsCheatsheet.test.tsx ui/src/hooks/useKeyboardShortcuts.test.tsx ``` Result: 10 test files passed, 88 tests passed. Additional follow-up verification passed after review fixes: ```sh NODE_ENV=test pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/Layout.test.tsx ui/src/context/SidebarContext.test.tsx && pnpm --filter /ui typecheck ``` Result: 2 test files passed, 28 tests passed, and UI typecheck passed. Latest PR-head remote checks: Paperclip PR workflow, Snyk, Socket, and Greptile are green; commitperclip `review` is cancelled in its security-gate step after filing a non-blocking neutral `security-review` check. Notes: - A direct run without `NODE_ENV=test` loads React's production build in this workspace, where `act` is unavailable; the command above matches the repo stable runner's test environment. - I did not run Playwright/browser e2e or full workspace build/typecheck in this PR-creation heartbeat. - QA screenshots are attached in https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/7824#issuecomment-4661968387 for expanded, collapsed rail, hover peek, and settings secondary-sidebar states. ## Risks - Medium UI layout risk: this changes the board shell and primary sidebar composition across many routes. - Local storage migration risk is low: new collapsed state uses a new key and existing width storage remains scoped to the sidebar width. - Plugin route risk: plugin `routeSidebar` slots now render as secondary panes on desktop, so plugin authors should confirm their route sidebar content fits a 240px contextual pane. - Mobile risk appears low because mobile keeps the drawer model and gates collapsed/peek behavior to desktop. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. [codex] Add agent permissions and controls plan (#6386)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies by keeping task ownership, approvals, and operator control inside one control plane. > - Agent permissions and plugin-hosted company settings sit on the boundary between autonomy and governance. > - V1 needs scoped task assignment rules, plugin extension points, and clearer company access surfaces without weakening company boundaries. > - The branch builds the core authorization service, plugin SDK/host APIs, and UI simplifications needed to support those controls. > - Paperclip EE plugin surfaces were intentionally moved out of this core PR per review direction, so this PR now carries only the public core/plugin infrastructure work. > - The latest updates preserve the PAP-9937 branch changes that belong in this PR, remove the `design/` artifacts, and exclude the experimental `plugin-briefs` package. > - Greptile feedback was applied through the authorization/audit paths and the final cleanup commit was re-reviewed at 5/5 with no unresolved Greptile threads. > - The benefit is safer assignment control with extension hooks for richer permission products while preserving simple defaults for normal operators. ## What Changed - Added scoped task-assignment authorization decisions and routed issue/agent assignment mutations through the authorization service. - Added plugin SDK and host APIs for company settings slots, authorization policy/grant management, assignment previews, and bridge invocation scope propagation. - Simplified core company access UI and moved advanced controls behind plugin-provided settings surfaces. - Added retry-now affordances for blocked issue next-step notices. - Added protected-assignment enforcement for persisted agent/project/issue policies, including explicit-grant fallback behavior. - Added incremental principal-access compatibility backfill for active agent memberships and role-default human permission grants. - Added the Markdown code block wrap action fix from the latest branch changes. - Removed `design/` artifacts from the PR and removed `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs` from the final diff. - Addressed Greptile feedback for plugin actor sanitization, legacy membership handling, audit pagination, unknown grant-scope metadata, and startup test mocks. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 2 files passed, 54 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 62 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-access-authorization-host-services.test.ts server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 28 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` -> passed. - `git diff --check` -> passed. - `node ./scripts/check-docker-deps-stage.mjs` -> passed. - `CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` -> passed with no lockfile update. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.interaction.test.tsx` -> 1 test passed. - `git ls-files design packages/plugins/plugin-briefs | wc -l` -> 0. - GitHub CI on `40cd83b53` -> all checks passed, merge state `CLEAN`. - Greptile on `40cd83b53` -> 5/5, 102 files reviewed, 0 comments/annotations added, 0 unresolved review threads. - Confirmed the PR diff contains no `design/`, `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs`, `pnpm-lock.yaml`, or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Medium: task assignment authorization paths are behaviorally stricter for protected/private policy data, so existing plugin-authored policies may block assignment until explicit grants or approval flows are configured. - Medium: plugin-host authorization APIs expand the surface area available to trusted plugins and need careful review for company scoping. - Low: startup now performs a principal-access compatibility backfill, but the migration and runtime backfill use conflict-tolerant inserts. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. Expand plugin host surface (#5205)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - The plugin system is the extension boundary for optional product capabilities > - Rich plugins need more than a worker entrypoint: they need scoped database storage, local project folders, managed agents/routines, host navigation, and reusable UI components > - The LLM Wiki work exposed those missing host surfaces while keeping plugin code outside the core control plane > - This pull request expands the core plugin host, SDK, server APIs, and UI bridge so plugins can declare and use those surfaces > - The benefit is that future plugins can integrate with Paperclip through documented, validated contracts instead of bespoke server or UI imports ## What Changed - Added plugin-managed database namespaces and migration tracking, including Drizzle schema/migration files and SQL validation for namespace isolation. - Added server support for plugin local folders, managed agents, managed routines, scoped plugin APIs, and plugin operation visibility. - Expanded shared plugin manifest/types/validators and SDK host/testing/UI exports for richer plugin surfaces. - Added reusable UI pieces for file trees, managed routines, resizable sidebars, route sidebars, and plugin bridge initialization. - Updated plugin docs and example plugins to use the expanded host and SDK surface. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/plugin.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-database.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-local-folders.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-managed-agents.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-managed-routines.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-orchestration-apis.test.ts ui/src/api/plugins.test.ts ui/src/components/FileTree.test.tsx ui/src/components/ResizableSidebarPane.test.tsx ui/src/pages/PluginPage.test.tsx ui/src/plugins/bridge.test.ts` passed: 11 files, 67 tests. - Confirmed this PR changes 89 files and does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows/*`. ## Risks - Medium: this expands plugin host contracts across db/shared/server/ui and includes a new core migration (`0076_useful_elektra.sql`). - The plugin database namespace validator is intentionally restrictive; plugin authors may need follow-up affordances for SQL patterns that remain blocked. - Merge this before the LLM Wiki plugin PR so the plugin can resolve the new SDK and host APIs. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent, tool-enabled shell/git/GitHub workflow. Add sandbox environment support (#4415)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - The environment/runtime layer decides where agent work executes and how the control plane reaches those runtimes. > - Today Paperclip can run locally and over SSH, but sandboxed execution needs a first-class environment model instead of one-off adapter behavior. > - We also want sandbox providers to be pluggable so the core does not hardcode every provider implementation. > - This branch adds the Sandbox environment path, the provider contract, and a deterministic fake provider plugin. > - That required synchronized changes across shared contracts, plugin SDK surfaces, server runtime orchestration, and the UI environment/workspace flows. > - The result is that sandbox execution becomes a core control-plane capability while keeping provider implementations extensible and testable. ## What Changed - Added sandbox runtime support to the environment execution path, including runtime URL discovery, sandbox execution targeting, orchestration, and heartbeat integration. - Added plugin-provider support for sandbox environments so providers can be supplied via plugins instead of hardcoded server logic. - Added the fake sandbox provider plugin with deterministic behavior suitable for local and automated testing. - Updated shared types, validators, plugin protocol definitions, and SDK helpers to carry sandbox provider and workspace-runtime contracts across package boundaries. - Updated server routes and services so companies can create sandbox environments, select them for work, and execute work through the sandbox runtime path. - Updated the UI environment and workspace surfaces to expose sandbox environment configuration and selection. - Added test coverage for sandbox runtime behavior, provider seams, environment route guards, orchestration, and the fake provider plugin. ## Verification - Ran locally before the final fixture-only scrub: - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm test:run` - `pnpm build` - Ran locally after the final scrub amend: - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/runtime-api.test.ts` - Reviewer spot checks: - create a sandbox environment backed by the fake provider plugin - run work through that environment - confirm sandbox provider execution does not inherit host secrets implicitly ## Risks - This touches shared contracts, plugin SDK plumbing, server runtime orchestration, and UI environment/workspace flows, so regressions would likely show up as cross-layer mismatches rather than isolated type errors. - Runtime URL discovery and sandbox callback selection are sensitive to host/bind configuration; if that logic is wrong, sandbox-backed callbacks may fail even when execution succeeds. - The fake provider plugin is intentionally deterministic and test-oriented; future providers may expose capability gaps that this branch does not yet cover. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent on a GPT-5-class backend in the Paperclip/Codex harness. Exact backend model ID is not exposed in-session. Tool-assisted workflow with shell execution, file editing, git history inspection, and local test execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

[codex] Add plugin orchestration host APIs (#4114)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies. > - The plugin system is the extension path for optional capabilities that should not require core product changes for every integration. > - Plugins need scoped host APIs for issue orchestration, documents, wakeups, summaries, activity attribution, and isolated database state. > - Without those host APIs, richer plugins either cannot coordinate Paperclip work safely or need privileged core-side special cases. > - This pull request adds the plugin orchestration host surface, scoped route dispatch, a database namespace layer, and a smoke plugin that exercises the contract. > - The benefit is a broader plugin API that remains company-scoped, auditable, and covered by tests. ## What Changed - Added plugin orchestration host APIs for issue creation, document access, wakeups, summaries, plugin-origin activity, and scoped API route dispatch. - Added plugin database namespace tables, schema exports, migration checks, and idempotent replay coverage under migration `0059_plugin_database_namespaces`. - Added shared plugin route/API types and validators used by server and SDK boundaries. - Expanded plugin SDK types, protocol helpers, worker RPC host behavior, and testing utilities for orchestration flows. - Added the `plugin-orchestration-smoke-example` package to exercise scoped routes, restricted database namespaces, issue orchestration, documents, wakeups, summaries, and UI status surfaces. - Kept the new orchestration smoke fixture out of the root pnpm workspace importer so this PR preserves the repository policy of not committing `pnpm-lock.yaml`. - Updated plugin docs and database docs for the new orchestration and database namespace surfaces. - Rebased the branch onto `public-gh/master`, resolved conflicts, and removed `pnpm-lock.yaml` from the final PR diff. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/db/src/client.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-database.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-orchestration-apis.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-scoped-api-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-sdk-orchestration-contract.test.ts` - From `packages/plugins/examples/plugin-orchestration-smoke-example`: `pnpm exec vitest run --config ./vitest.config.ts` - `pnpm --dir packages/plugins/examples/plugin-orchestration-smoke-example run typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - PR CI on latest head `293fc67c`: `policy`, `verify`, `e2e`, and `security/snyk` all passed. ## Risks - Medium risk: this expands plugin host authority, so route auth, company scoping, and plugin-origin activity attribution need careful review. - Medium risk: database namespace migration behavior must remain idempotent for environments that may have seen earlier branch versions. - Medium risk: the orchestration smoke fixture is intentionally excluded from the root workspace importer to avoid a `pnpm-lock.yaml` PR diff; direct fixture verification remains listed above. - Low operational risk from the PR setup itself: the branch is rebased onto current `master`, the migration is ordered after upstream `0057`/`0058`, and `pnpm-lock.yaml` is not in the final diff. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. Roadmap checked: this work aligns with the completed Plugin system milestone and extends the plugin surface rather than duplicating an unrelated planned core feature. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent in a tool-enabled CLI environment. Exact hosted model build and context-window size are not exposed by the runtime; reasoning/tool use were enabled for repository inspection, editing, testing, git operations, and PR creation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots (N/A: no core UI screen change; example plugin UI contract is covered by tests) - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
