feat(connections): add experimental task-pinned AI routing (#14967)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - AI Connections separate account access from models and harnesses. > - A pool must act as one connection while retaining each task’s account. > - Core must enforce member access and preserve session and recovery rules. > - A plugin supplies rotation policy without receiving credentials. > - This change adds durable routing and native connector setup and management. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** AI Connections, Connectors, plugins, run dispatch, and session compatibility. **Problem or motivation** Operators need to rotate new tasks across saved accounts while each task keeps its account and session. Pool setup must fit the existing connector catalog and account workflow. **Proposed solution** Add an experimental router binding, a capability-gated plugin hook, and transactional task pins. Plugins declare native pooled connectors through `aiConnectionRouter`. Core hosts the existing-account picker, ordering step, and account settings. Related usage contract: #14936. Companion private plugin: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/643. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Apps and AI Connections. Core supplies generic enforcement and native connector UI; the private plugin owns rotation and quota policy. The prior duplicate search found no matching router implementation. ## What Changed - Add a router binding without changing existing concrete bindings. Keep the instance flag and new pools disabled by default. Require manual operator configuration. Show no routing toggle in Experimental settings on either open-source or Cloud installs, even after routing is enabled. - Persist company-scoped pools, one shared cursor per pool, and pins keyed by company, pool, agent, and task. Commit pins and cursor advances together with revision checks and bounded retries. Persist run-ID affinity before allocation. - Pass only authorized metadata and normalized usage to plugins. Core retains credential handling, member access checks, runtime qualification, and recovery evidence. Probe outside locks with a shared 15-second budget and freshness cache. - Resolve routing before credential preparation and backend selection. Preserve pins through turns, session resets, removed members, and quota waits. Retain admitted recovery after disable or uninstall. - Separate credential session epochs from token generations. Verified refresh preserves the epoch; reconnect and manual replacement change it. Include the credential slot ID in session and usage-cache identity, so reconnecting an indexed legacy account invalidates its old session even when both epochs are zero. - Validate pool member installations before accepting saved-agent bindings and recheck compatibility when the harness changes. Install only authorized members in the new-agent transaction and record their IDs in local activity. Pool membership cannot install a restricted shared connection. - Preserve pool bindings when agents hire teammates through either creation API or native caller runtime inheritance. Block stale manager credential references; retain explicit child authentication precedence and reject incompatible inherited pools. - Add native connector registration through plugin metadata. Reuse the Connectors catalog, setup header, account header, sidebar, dialogs, and usage display. Setup selects and orders saved connections. Advanced settings hold usage rules and member runtime defaults. New-account setup opens in another tab. - Use revision-checked pool archival from the Connectors catalog and account page. Keep task pins, cursors, recovery evidence, and underlying connections. Reject ordinary connection updates or removals that bypass pool revisions. - Add pool selectors, composer models, override notes, quota status, run details, activity records, and local run-log records. Keep session-adoption copy minimal. - Show **Used by** below the pool connections. List current company agents with shared avatars and profile links. Include paused agents; exclude terminated agents and agents using another pool. - Add Core stories for the generic connector workflow and runtime surfaces. Cloud stories reuse these production routes and tokens through a preview-only alias. ## Verification - Final head `73cb953bca30ed83e4505dd820edd9b5edffd28b`: full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass locally. - All 422 focused connector/settings/shared-contract/migration tests and all 156 database-backed AI connection, hiring, reconnect, and durable-routing cases pass (69 hiring cases rerun after the final auth-precedence fix). The merged shared contract retains connection instructions and pool metadata. The pool migration is generated at sequence 0299 after the latest upstream migrations; this PR makes no lockfile changes. - All four full-app Playwright tests pass on the final head after a cold restart and migration, against the installed private plugin and isolated database, with no route or pool-API mocks. They cover hidden routing controls after manual opt-in, native pool creation, ordering, membership edits, rename, paused defaults, enabling/save/refresh persistence, stale edits, cancellation/removal, preserved underlying accounts, unavailable routers, and Used by avatars and profile links. Exact command: `PAPERCLIP_CONNECTION_POOL_E2E=1 AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_COMPANY_ID=a37b9625-5ecf-4e29-8081-04df3d6e7d6f AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_URL=http://127.0.0.1:3108 pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/ai-connections-app/playwright.config.ts connection-pools.spec.ts`. - [Native setup, ordering, and management screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-6006976278) address the review follow-up. [Earlier selector, quota, and run-detail screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-5971537316) show the runtime surfaces. Core previews: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui storybook`, then **Connectors / Pool host** or **AI Connections / Connection pools**. Cloud owns its host-backed plugin stories; both repositories’ Operator Setup Required story assertions pass. - Live acceptance used OpenAI/Codex and Anthropic/Claude ACPX, resumed both exact sessions after restart, preserved pinned accounts through explicit reset and controlled quota deferral/recovery, and committed only two allocations across fourteen runs. A later UI-created task test again rotated OpenAI then Anthropic and resumed OpenAI through follow-up/restart/quota recovery. That later Anthropic execution was blocked by its saved OAuth token expiring (provider 401). No live usage probes ran. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted earlier and did not complete because of macOS embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap/shared-memory failures and the 40,000-file Git fixture timeout. The focused database suites above now pass; full-suite verification is provided by the split CI lanes. The preceding CI run had one runtime readiness timeout; it passes locally both alone and inside the larger runtime suite. That larger local suite also encountered an embedded PostgreSQL setup failure and two macOS temporary-path alias assertions; those two assertions pass with canonical TMPDIR=/private/tmp. All final-head CI checks are terminal green, including full general/serialized server suites, Runner checks, browser E2E shards, canary verification, build, and typecheck. Greptile is 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - The migration adds routing tables and a credential epoch column. Install the private plugin only with the compatible Core contract. - Routing and each pool require opt-in. Production distribution and fleet defaults remain unchanged. - Unknown usage stays eligible. Known pinned exhaustion waits; revoked access requires operator repair. - Legacy adapters require compatible members. Runner model and effort overrides remain limited by qualified backend support. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes:` / `Closes:` / `Refs:` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full-suite limitations are reported above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): keep mobile task output above the composer (#15282)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People read agent output in the task conversation. > - Mobile tasks scroll the document and keep the composer above the footer. > - The document body keeps a fixed height while the thread grows. > - The old observer misses late thread growth, and a layout scroll event can cancel follow mode. > - This pull request observes the thread and preserves follow mode until the reader scrolls up. > - The benefit is visible new output without repeated manual scrolling. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** New task output can move behind the mobile composer while the reader is already at the bottom. Late content layout does not resize the fixed-height body. A scroll event after layout growth can also clear follow mode before the resize observer runs. **Expected behavior** Keep new output visible above the composer while the reader follows the bottom. Hold the reading position after an upward scroll. Resume following when the reader returns to the bottom. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a long task conversation on mobile and scroll to the bottom. 2. Let a streamed row or delayed content grow after the parent renders. 3. Check whether the latest output stays above the composer. 4. Scroll up to read earlier output, then return to the bottom. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced by regression tests against master at |

feat(connections): sync and group accounts managed by aggregators (#15254)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents governed access to external tools. > - Aggregator gateways can expose accounts that users already connected upstream. > - The Apps catalog did not show those accounts or their current provider status. > - Separate cards and setup tasks also made account ownership unclear. > - This pull request discovers upstream accounts and groups them under one app card. > - Users can find connected apps while each provider keeps control of its accounts. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Connections across the database, shared contracts, server, and board UI. **Problem or motivation** Users cannot see which apps are connected through a saved aggregator gateway. Native and upstream accounts need one app card. Discovery must preserve company, user, gateway, and credential boundaries. **Proposed solution** Sync account metadata from Composio, Arcade, and supported Executor gateways. Keep upstream account management in each provider. Use source chips and search to browse the catalog. Preserve native setup and the gateway's existing access policy. **Alternatives considered** Creating a local executable connection for each upstream account would duplicate authorization state. Using an agent task for routine Composio setup would add an unnecessary step. The board now calls the saved gateway directly for that setup. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Connected Apps and MCP Tool Gateway features in ROADMAP.md. The duplicate search found no open PR for managed account discovery. Related work: Refs #13755, Refs #13941, Refs #14725, Refs #13855. Open PR #12906 covers adjacent toolkit routing work. ## What Changed - Add provider-neutral discovery, sync, and refresh APIs. Preserve the Composio API paths. - Cache observations by company, saved gateway, viewing user, and credential version. Retain stale observations after failed or incomplete scans. - Add optional Arcade account sync credentials in the vault. Discover Executor accounts through its supported inventory interface. - Group native and upstream accounts in one app card. Imported account menus open their provider. Gateway menus own refresh and sync setup. - Add Paperclip, Composio, Arcade, Installed, and All chips. Show 50 catalog entries per page. Keep connected accounts above discovery. Keep explicit provider searches scoped. - Simplify Composio app setup and refresh its connected app list on the gateway Permissions page. - Add a compact agent access card and task creation defaults for connection setup. Preserve explicit blocks and approval policies. - Add two replay-safe migrations, service and UI tests, Storybook journeys, and acceptance stories. ## Verification - Passed the repository typecheck, full build, token gates, and migration ordering check. - Passed the focused provider adapter, connection interaction, and catalog tests after rebasing onto master. - Passed all nine database sync and migration replay tests using a disposable database on the test-drive PostgreSQL cluster. Removed that database after the run. - Verified Arcade cursor pagination against its official Go SDK and passed all eight adapter tests, including short and incomplete pages. - Passed all 45 interaction tests after making the exact requested tools and their Allowed/Ask first permissions visible before granting access. Verified the compact card in Storybook. - Passed the complete UI suite on the final code: 683 files and 7,432 tests, including the corrected Composio destination assertions. Passed 130 focused tests for the UUID, management-link, and health-status corrections. - Passed 22 Composio setup/sync tests, 23 connection-intent service tests, and the connection migration test in separate disposable databases. Database startup alone was substituted; the suites exercised their real SQL and services. - Passed all 10 OpenAPI route checks and the full-stack connection-intent browser test, including scoped consent, agent continuation, and task completion. - The local full runner encountered embedded PostgreSQL startup failures on this loaded macOS host. The earlier in-flight run also held the pre-fix Arcade transform; a fresh run of the final provider suite passes. The final-head CI is queued during GitHub’s active Actions incident: https://www.githubstatus.com/. The previous run also lost several runners simultaneously; its real catalog assertion failures are fixed and the fresh complete UI suite passes. - Tested the real test-drive server in the embedded browser with a live Composio gateway. Detected Airtable and Circleback. Verified refresh progress, account rows, source chips, search scope, and 50-entry pagination. - Arcade and Executor coverage uses provider fixtures. Live credentials were unavailable. - Storybook builds successfully and includes grouped native/provider accounts, stale and unavailable discovery, optional Arcade setup, and mobile states. The acceptance document records the simulated and live coverage separately. - Greptile reviewed final commit `217b024c27b5933e773ce9419c4e92b1032042c6` at 5/5. All six review threads are resolved, security scans pass, and the PR has no merge conflicts. The outstanding remote checks are `ci / Select trusted runner` and `review`, queued by GitHub. They need to complete before merge. ## Risks - Provider response changes can break inventory discovery. Failed scans retain observations and show stale status. - Composio scans only the supported catalog and can take time. Large inventories run in the background with progress and a bounded lease. - Arcade requires a project API key and user ID when the gateway cannot supply them. This key is used only for discovery. - Executor discovery depends on the server's exposed inventory tools. Unsupported servers report unavailable discovery. - Cached account rows do not grant access or create executable connections. Gateway policies still govern tool use. Account deletion and per-app authorization remain upstream. - The migrations add tables and one nullable column. Replay preserves existing rows and company-scoped foreign keys. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6. The session does not expose a more specific serving model ID or context limit. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser verification. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): stabilize mobile task reading and document navigation (#15228)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - People read tasks and send instructions from phones as well as desktop browsers. > - The mobile footer let page text show through its labels, and small text fields made Safari zoom on focus. > - Small scroll changes made the footer switch direction, and its changing page padding moved the conversation. > - Task pages also showed comments before question cards and run history arrived, so the composer and reading position moved again. > - Document links also used native navigation, which reset the reading position or reloaded a task through its UUID URL. Desktop tabs were crowded in the mobile drawer. > - This pull request keeps navigation steady, opens documents in the mounted task, and gives mobile readers a full-height panel with a vertical tab selector. > - The benefit is a stable task view and smoother scrolling on mobile. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The mobile footer was translucent. Safari zoomed when a person focused a small text field. The footer switched abruptly while scrolling. A large task could show saved comments, then move the page again when a question card or run history arrived. In a local test with delayed responses, a late question moved the mobile composer by about 374 pixels. Opening a plan from the feed could reset the view or reload the task through a UUID link. The mobile document drawer left part of the feed exposed above small desktop tab controls. **Expected behavior** The footer has an opaque surface and moves smoothly after deliberate scrolling. Text fields do not cause automatic focus zoom. A task shows its initial conversation and composer together at the final scroll position. Background refreshes keep the existing conversation visible. Document links open in the mounted task with its existing cache and reading position. Mobile documents fill the viewport, show a clear close button, and offer a vertical list of open tabs. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with many long comments and a pending question in iOS Safari. 2. Delay its interactions, activity, and runs responses by different amounts. 3. Reload the page and watch the conversation and composer move as each response arrives. 4. Scroll down and back up, including small direction changes and edge bounce. 5. Focus the task composer, search field, and new-task title and description. 6. Open a plan or another task document from the feed, including a link that uses the task UUID. Close the panel and check the reading position. 7. Open several documents on a phone. Switch tabs and close both active and inactive tabs. **Paperclip version or commit** Developed from `1c07b5903` and rebased onto `59015846a`. **Deployment mode** Built from source. Tested in an isolated local test drive with iOS 26.5 Simulator Safari and Chrome. A temporary local proxy delayed independent responses for the layout test. Related work found in the duplicate search: - Refs #14727. It made saved replies appear before supporting history. This PR keeps its parallel requests and narrows the tradeoff in favor of a stable first layout. - Refs #14667. This open PR takes a different approach with per-run placeholders and retries. This PR fixes the observed question/composer movement and mobile navigation behavior. - Refs #13095 and #13597. These earlier fixes added task scroll anchors and skipped transcript waits for scheduled retries. - Refs #6550. Earlier mobile board polish. - Refs #9467. This related open PR changes list and generic tab reflow. The task-pane selector uses a separate component. ## What Changed - Give the mobile footer an opaque semantic surface. - Set a base-size floor for editable text on touch devices to prevent Safari focus zoom. Preserve larger title text. - Share mobile scroll tracking between both layouts. Accumulate scroll distance, ignore edge bounce and changed document bounds, and update once per frame. - Use shared motion tokens for the footer and composer. Keep page padding stable and honor reduced motion. - Wait for the initial question cards, attachments, work products, activity, runtime selection, plan, and relevant transcript history before the first reveal. Skip scheduled retries and older runs outside the initial comment window. - Bound the first reveal to 15 seconds. A stalled supporting request leaves saved conversation and the composer accessible with an explicit loading notice. - Keep concealed mobile history from stretching the document. Keep the composer mounted but concealed until the same reveal. Keep both visible during later refreshes. - Route first and repeated same-task document clicks in place. Recognize UUID and identifier links. Preserve the thread history entry and feed position. Keep modifier clicks, downloads, external links, and classic document behavior. - Give the mobile task panel the full viewport and safe-area padding. Use a visible X and 44-pixel touch controls. Replace the horizontal tab strip with a vertical selector that wraps titles and supports keyboard focus. - Add four interactive Storybook states for a few tabs, long names, many tabs, and the last tab. Reuse the production selector and tab controller. - Add navigation and tab regressions, update first-reveal regressions, and document the behavior in `DESIGN.md`. ## Verification - 392 tests passed across the seven focused task-loading, scroll, mobile-navigation, layout, and composer suites. After review fixes, all 339 tests across the four affected suites passed, including stalled-loading fallback on mobile and desktop and the motion-token catalog. - All 442 focused document, tab, task-thread, and scroll tests pass. The final click-propagation cleanup also passes all 136 task-detail tests. UI typecheck, UI production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - All four cases in `artifact-tab-arrival.spec.ts` and `text-attachment-tabs.spec.ts` pass locally, covering desktop and mobile selection, composer focus, document rendering, and downloads of the original bytes. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passed. Open the mobile tab stories under `Prototypes/Task detail/Mobile tabs`. - A local diagnostic proxy measured cached plan content at about 250 ms after the first click. The HTML load count and task request count did not change. Feed scroll stayed at the same position. First, repeated, and UUID document links were tested at phone and desktop widths. Task-reference links close their preview before the document reader opens. - In Chrome at desktop and phone widths, the delayed-response task showed one complete reveal. The late question no longer moved an already visible composer. - In iOS Simulator Safari, verified the large-task reload, opaque footer, navigation hide/reveal, and search/new-task/composer focus without automatic zoom. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed. The updated UI also passes typecheck, production build, and token gates. - All 54 checks pass on the final commit `bf5c9914e61833e7cc8794a69d72cf8c7057b952` (two additional checks are intentionally skipped). Greptile reviewed that commit at 5/5, and all review threads are resolved. - Full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted but stopped after server-fixture failures. Embedded PostgreSQL startup failure reproduced in an isolated native-interaction fixture after five startup attempts. The broad run also reported a rapid Slack callback ordering test failure. These server paths are unchanged by this PR, and their CI shards pass on the latest head. The full local suite is not claimed as passing. - A localhost proxy stalled the activity response for 30 seconds. Chrome revealed the available conversation after the 15-second deadline at both desktop and phone widths, kept the composer accessible, and cleared the loading notice when the response arrived. ## Risks Slow initial history requests can delay the first conversation reveal by up to 15 seconds. If that deadline expires, late data can change the available conversation while a loading notice remains visible. The reveal waits only for runs in the initial comment window, and later refreshes do not conceal an existing conversation. The larger editable text can change line wrapping on phones. Mobile navigation and composer motion use shared tokens and respect reduced-motion settings. Mobile tab selection changes the control layout. Document links retain URL history while sharing the task reading position; other tasks and external links keep their normal navigation behavior. I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This is a fix for existing UI behavior. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. The agent used reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and Chrome and iOS Simulator testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): explain branch artifacts without remote links (#15051)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage agent work and inspect its results. > - The issue artifact list presents those results as work-product cards. > - A branch can have no remote URL or structured metadata. > - The current card hides its summary and has no action in that case. > - This pull request shows the summary and provides an accessible details action. > - The card labels the absent link without making a false link. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A branch work product without a URL showed a short title and an icon. It did not show the saved summary or provide an action. **Expected behavior** The card must show what the branch contains. People must be able to open the saved details. It must not imply that a remote URL exists. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the artifact list of an issue with a branch work product that has `url: null` and `metadata: null`. 2. Find the branch card. Its summary and details action are missing before this change. Related work: #12717 introduced rich work-product cards. ## What Changed - Keep linkless branch cards concise: show the title and no-link state. Keep the full summary behind an optional Saved description toggle. - Label a branch with no URL as having no remote link. Let a person open its details with a keyboard-accessible button. - Add a focused interaction test and two Storybook states for the no-link branch. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. - Focused Vitest tests passed: 45 tests in two files. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - The Storybook collapsed and expanded states rendered in Chromium. Both screenshots were captured. - Full workspace typecheck could not finish: the runner Rust package requires `cargo`, which is not installed in this environment. ## Risks - Low risk. The change affects card text and the action for records without a URL. It does not change the saved data or routes. - Long saved summaries on other linkless work products expand the card height after a person selects Details. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent. The execution environment does not expose the exact model ID or context window to this agent. It used code execution and a browser to validate the change. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [ ] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details (the managed execution workspace fixes this branch name) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes (Storybook examples) - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): use available space for composer labels (#15050)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - The task composer shows the next assignee and model before a message starts work. > - Fixed width limits shortened both labels when the composer had unused space. > - People could not read the selected agent and model even when the full text could fit. > - This pull request makes the capsule use the available composer width. > - It keeps the ellipsis when Plan mode or a narrow layout causes real space pressure. > - The benefit is clearer run settings without damage to the compact composer layout. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The task composer truncated the assignee name at 6rem and the complete assignee and model capsule at 16rem. It did this even when the composer had more available space. **Expected behavior** The composer must show the complete assignee and model labels when they fit. It must use an ellipsis only when another control or a narrow viewport limits the available width. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task composer with a long assignee name and a long model name. 2. Use a wide desktop layout. 3. Observe that the old capsule shortened both labels while unused space remained. **Paperclip version or commit** Current `master` before this change. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`). **Installation method** Built from source. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific. This is a core UI bug. **Database mode** Not database-related. **Access context** Board. **Additional context** The Storybook cases cover a wide composer and a narrow composer with Plan mode. ## What Changed - Removed the fixed maximum width from the assignee and model capsule. - Removed the fixed maximum width from the assignee label. - Kept overflow ellipsis behavior when the parent row has insufficient space. - Added stable label selectors and focused component coverage. - Added Storybook cases for complete labels and Plan-mode truncation. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk build` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat/ComposerRunSettingsPicker.test.tsx` - `node scripts/check-token-gates.mjs` - Storybook production build under Node.js 24.20.0 - Captured and inspected the two new Storybook cases. - The complete repository typecheck and build reach the Rust Runner step. This local environment does not have `cargo`. Hosted CI supplies the Rust toolchain. - The repository test suite reaches workspace-runtime tests. This local runner does not allow their required temporary home directories. Hosted CI supplies a writable test home. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only removes fixed width limits from one flex item. - A very narrow composer can still shorten both labels. This is the intended fallback. - The Storybook constrained case verifies that Plan mode and Send remain usable. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 through the Paperclip Codex runner. fix: preserve steering and recover stopped task conversations (#15015)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A task conversation must let a user guide a running agent and resume stopped work. > - The active run owns its input protocol, even when the user changes the next model or effort. > - Queue delivery waits for a provider receipt, which must be able to persist during the request. > - A stopped startup also needs a clear user action that passes normal task admission. > - This pull request fixes steering delivery, makes queue actions immediate, and restores explicit continuation. > - The benefit is a responsive conversation that can recover without losing saved input. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A queued message could change from Steer to Interrupt while a native run prepared. A steer request could wait on its own database lock and fail to deliver. A stopped startup could then leave the conversation without a working Retry or message continuation. Interrupt also waited for the server and showed a toast. **Expected behavior** The active run keeps its input protocol. Steer delivers input to that run. Steer and Interrupt clear the submitted queue rows and show the input in the conversation immediately. Failed delivery restores the latest queue with an inline error. An eligible stopped run offers Retry, and authenticated user input can start a fresh turn through normal task admission. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a task with a native Paperclip Runner. 2. Change the selected model or effort while that run prepares. 3. Queue a message and press Steer. 4. Observe the provider receipt and queue state during the request. 5. Stop a startup before its provider process begins, then try Retry or send a new message. 6. Repeat queued delivery with a legacy runner and press Interrupt. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on the parent of this branch, `59c07ede7`. **Deployment mode** Authenticated private deployment. The fixes also cover local task conversations. Related work: Refs #12834, Refs #13354, Refs #13275. The open refactor in #13160 moves the same queue route; it does not fix the receipt lock or stopped-run continuation addressed here. ## What Changed - Select queue behavior from the active run's immutable dispatch and runtime resolution. - Leave the run row unlocked during provider acknowledgement, then lock and read it before merging the receipt. - Retain queued input if the target run stops during that wait. Keep inline delivery errors visible after empty queue updates. - Permit exact Retry and authenticated continuation after verified native startup cancellation. Preserve pause, approval, budget, ownership, and process-stop gates. - Carry undelivered native queue input into a fresh turn once the old execution is confirmed stopped. - Show Steer and Interrupt input in the conversation and clear submitted composer rows immediately. Restore the latest queue inline on failure. Remove delivery toasts. - Keep optimistic delivery stable across stale polls, empty queues, and paginated history. Preserve classic Interrupt error handling. - Document recovery and optimistic delivery behavior. Add regression tests across server, shared queue projection, and UI boundaries. ## Verification - Red-green regression tests reproduced the queue protocol, receipt lock, stopped-startup continuation, and optimistic delivery failures. - The focused server route, continuation, queue, and runner boundary suites passed during implementation. - The queue-route suite passes with 78 tests. The three complete conversation UI suites pass with 347 tests. - UI typecheck, production build, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. - Workspace `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The local monolithic `pnpm test:run` is still running; remote CI verifies the complete suite on the latest commit. - All CI gates pass on `bd9031ad56abfcde13d13a13488c1b9217c2fd3a`, including the full test shards, runner verification, browser E2E, typecheck, release registry, and canary dry run. - Greptile reports 5/5 for that commit. Both review threads are resolved. ## Risks This changes queue display and explicit continuation admission. The UI must restore rejected delivery without losing other-session edits. The server must preserve concurrent provider result updates and must not resume a process whose stop is uncertain. Focused tests cover these boundaries. This change has no database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, an agent based on GPT-6. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser inspection. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(interactions): wait for workspace readiness before enabling approval (#14893)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage AI agents and review their work. > - Task confirmations must use the work produced by their source run. > - The server blocks approval while that run still needs to sync its workspace. > - The card currently enables approval before that check can pass, so an ordinary click produces an error. > - This PR exposes the existing readiness check and shows “Preparing approval…” with acceptance disabled. > - The card refreshes itself and enables approval when the source workspace settles. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A confirmation appears while its source run is still preparing or syncing its workspace. Its enabled approval button returns a conflict asking the user to retry after syncing. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run an agent in an isolated workspace. 2. Have it create a confirmation before workspace finalization completes. 3. Click the approval button while the source workspace is still active. **Expected behavior** The card explains that approval is preparing. Acceptance becomes available automatically when the same server check permits it. Reject and revise remain available. Related work: #10770 handles this conflict after a click with retries. #9520 proposes changing the workspace acceptance barrier. This PR preserves that barrier and exposes readiness before the click, including in compact task chat. It preserves the terminal-finalize behavior from #10099. ## What Changed - Add an optional, read-only `acceptanceBlocker` to interaction responses. Readiness uses the existing source-run workspace predicate, with one check per pending source run. - Disable acceptance and show a shared preparation notice in classic and compact confirmation cards, including checkbox and secret-binding confirmations. - Refresh preparing cards every two seconds in task detail, attention, pipelines, and Skill Studio. Restore each surface's previous polling cadence when preparation clears. - Preserve live tool reviews, questions, rejection, revision, and the server acceptance barrier. No automatic acceptance occurs. - Document the preparation state and cover readiness, terminal sync outcomes, unrelated runs, historical cards, and automatic refresh. ## Verification - Focused service, card, query-refresh, and helper tests: 217 passed across five files. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm build-storybook`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm test:run`: incomplete locally. Stopped after about 17 minutes once it reproduced seven existing environment failures: two Slack tests and two email tests lack ancestor-directory skill fixtures; three company-skills tests fail on macOS runtime-cache staging permissions. These are outside this change. The full CI test matrix passed. - CI: all 53 checks passed; two optional Storybook jobs were skipped. The branch has no conflicts with `master`. - Greptile: 5/5 on commit `8a6f216d8d`, with no review threads. - Reviewed added lines and new files for credentials, private URLs, internal task references, user paths, and run artifacts. None found. ## Risks - No database migration or change to acceptance authorization. Readiness is advisory; the server still enforces its existing gate at acceptance. - An open preparing card adds a read every two seconds. This cadence stops after readiness clears; historical cards add no workspace checks. - Failed or stale finalization retains the existing server behavior. This PR does not change recovery policy. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository inspection, tool execution, and automated tests. No sub-agents. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (217 focused tests; full local-suite limitations are recorded above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(chat): hide obsolete execution status and system notices (#14874)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people oversee agent work through task conversations. > - Conversations should show failures and waits that still affect the task. > - Old run errors and recovery notices remained visible after later work or task completion. > - These messages looked current even when no action remained. > - This change hides obsolete execution status while preserving the responses and activity. > - The full diagnostic record stays available in run history. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Task chat kept showing “Run failed”, “Stopped”, and “Waiting to resume” after the execution had been superseded or the task had finished. Stored system notices also remained in the conversation. Completed tasks disabled Retry but kept the error message. **Expected behavior** Hide system status that no longer applies. Keep the latest unresolved failure, active recovery holds, and useful recovery actions visible. Preserve messages, files, questions, session boundaries, and inspectable activity. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Let a task run fail, then record a pre-start recovery wait. 2. Complete a later attempt or mark the task done. 3. Open the task conversation. Before this change, the old error and wait remain visible. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced in component tests against `0f9e9be408`. **Deployment mode** Task chat in local or hosted deployments; both legacy adapters and the native runner. Related: #14857 and #14869 address execution recovery. This PR addresses the remaining conversation presentation. Searched GitHub for historical chat status, historical errors, and “Waiting to resume”; no duplicate PR found. ## What Changed - Determine status relevance from task state, attempt order, successor evidence, and recovery state. Time alone does not hide errors. - Hide obsolete run markers and stored execution notices. Require run or recovery provenance, so unrelated system updates such as child-task blockers remain visible. Keep errors from the latest failed attempt actionable. - Keep unresolved execution holds visible. A refused pre-start retry does not replace a real attempt, and another agent’s work does not resolve a run-specific error. - Show historical activity without Worked/Stopped labels. Keep historical failures out of the current turn’s summary. - Anchor activity to visible comments so removing a notice cannot remove the response or activity with it. - Document the presentation rules and cover both runner modes and both task presentation modes. ## Verification - 334 focused component and status-policy tests passed across four files, including the child-task relay regressions. - `pnpm build` passed. The UI build also passed after the final presentation changes. - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/ui`: 667 files and 7,157 tests passed. Subsequent focused tests cover the final activity-anchor, live-successor, and notice-provenance changes. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. UI typecheck and build passed again after the review fix. - `pnpm test:run` completed its general-server phase with 14,716 tests passed, 17 failed, and 87 skipped; it stopped before later phases. The failures occurred in four unchanged server suites: chat channels, email channels, company skills, and runtime skill cache. A targeted rerun reproduced missing bundled skill paths and `EACCES` during cache-directory rename on macOS. All Linux CI suites pass for the final commit, including these server suites. - Design token gates and diff checks pass. - All 53 checks pass on commit `7af9753859`; two optional Storybook checks are skipped. [Final CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36931968751) includes build, full typecheck, all server and workspace test shards, all eight end-to-end shards, runner verification, and the canary dry run. - Greptile scores the final commit at 5/5. No review threads remain unresolved. The branch is current with `master` and has no merge conflicts. ## Risks This changes presentation only. It does not change execution, recovery, stored comments, or run history. The main risk is hiding a current diagnostic too early. Tests cover active holds, refused retries, different agents, missing timestamps and provenance, live successors, preserved responses, and the current retry target. The base branch has a dependency override/lockfile mismatch. Local installation used the same resolution fallback as CI, then restored the tracked lockfile. No dependency changes are included. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6). The exact runtime model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and regression tests. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass — changed-code tests pass; unrelated full-suite failures are documented above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: let agents name prompt-only tasks (#14761)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Users create tasks with a title and a description. > - A required title adds work when the prompt already explains the request. > - An agent can name the task once it reads that request. > - This pull request accepts prompt-only tasks and starts them with a short prompt slice. > - A scoped title tool lets the assigned agent replace that slice early without changing execution state. > - A live browser eval checks the real agent call, saved title, audit entry, and preservation of user titles. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: task creation, shared contracts, database, server, runner tools, and board UI. **Problem or motivation** Users must currently write a title before they can submit a detailed task prompt. The agent has enough context to write a useful title itself. **Proposed solution** Make the title optional when a description is present. Save the first 120 characters of the normalized prompt as a provisional title. Ask the assigned agent to call `set_task_title` early. Use an atomic provisional-title guard to preserve titles supplied or edited by users. Keep explicit titles supported. Related: #14543 and #14556 concern empty-title submission. This change intentionally enables that submission when a prompt is present, instead of requiring a title. ## What Changed - Add the `titleNeedsGeneration` field with an idempotent migration. Keep existing titles unchanged. - Add `PUT /api/issues/:id/title` and the native and legacy `set_task_title` tool. Enforce company access, active-run ownership, shared, bounded retry receipts across native/HTTP calls, and transactional audit logging. Refresh external-object links after commit, with the same feature gate and plugin detectors as ordinary title edits. - Add early naming guidance in Standard, Ask, and Plan task context. Preserve the description, status, and assignment. - Allow prompt-only root and child task creation, plus draft restoration in the New Task dialog. Keep user titles supported. - Add an opt-in Product E2E suite for prompt-only Standard and Ask tasks, plus an explicit-title control. It checks actual provider calls within the first five tools, persisted state, audit attribution, and the reloaded UI. - Preserve a closed vocabulary of API key maintenance phrases in declared prose while rejecting opaque credential suffixes. Add one bounded naming retry after wording is rejected, without treating the rejected call as a saved title. - Repair the native cleanup receipt check exposed during full verification: accept matching input digests, retain legacy input checks, and reject conflicting receipts. ## Verification - Live Product E2E on `f43478473800e3a46b85c5ee79677efdb15108e7`: **3/3 passed** with native Codex `gpt-5.4-mini`, first attempts only, automatic retries disabled. Standard and Ask each saved “Rotate expired API key” on their first tool call, with matching persisted state and a single same-run audit entry. The explicit-title control retained its user title with zero title writes. All three verified the reloaded browser UI. - Campaign: `local-2026-09-30T21-30-11-021Z`. Earlier failed campaigns are retained separately; they exposed credential-prose handling and prompted the naming recovery fix. No failed result was regraded or deleted. - Reproduce with `pnpm test:e2e:runner -- --id task-titles.runner-codex-mini.local.prompt-title-standard --id task-titles.runner-codex-mini.local.prompt-title-ask --id task-titles.runner-codex-mini.local.preserve-explicit-title --max-automatic-retries 0` and an authorized provider key. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed on the latest commit. The runner build used the configured external eval source tree. - Product E2E unit suite: **61 files, 818 tests passed**; E2E typecheck and UI token gates passed. - Title API/native regressions cover prompt-only and explicit child creation, user edits, ownership/company isolation, external reference refresh, cross-surface retry replay, and the 64-key limit without receipt eviction. All passed. Prompt-context coverage: **44 tests passed**. - Rust credential regressions: **35 tests passed**, including benign maintenance qualifiers and opaque credential rejection in every declared prose field. Catalog/report reconciliation: **28 tests passed**. Native recovery: **560 tests passed**. - Broad local `pnpm test:run`: **14,555 tests passed** in the general server group; two suites failed to initialize embedded PostgreSQL and the existing 40,000-file Git streaming stress test exceeded its 300-second macOS timeout. All three suites then passed in isolation (**5 tests passed**) without code or timeout changes. The original full local command exited nonzero and is not being represented as a clean full run. - Latest-head GitHub checks are green: **53 passed, 4 skipped, zero failed or pending**, including all test shards and the canary packaging dry run. Greptile reviewed the same commit at **5/5**, with zero unresolved review threads. ## Risks - The additive database field must reach the server and UI together. The migration uses `IF NOT EXISTS` and defaults existing tasks to a final title. - Title generation depends on the assigned agent running. Tasks without a run keep their provisional title. - Live qualification covers the native Codex path in Standard and Ask modes. API/legacy and Plan behavior have deterministic coverage. - The credential-prose exception validates the entire suffix against a closed maintenance vocabulary. Unknown suffixes, assignments, quoted values, credential prefixes, and diagnostics retain strict checks. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The live eval uses the native Codex `gpt-5.4-mini` profile. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(chat): resolve approvals and preserve unanswered questions (#14613)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents ask for decisions and optional details through cards in chat. > - A clear approval in a message can leave the matching card pending. > - An unanswered question can also block an unrelated later reply. > - Decisions need a saved source message, while optional questions need to remain answerable in history. > - This pull request records conversational decisions and lets users move on from questions and answer them later. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Native Claude and Codex could act on approval in chat while the original approval card stayed pending. Pending question forms stayed above the composer, were absent from history, and could suppress later chat replies. A late native question answer could wait for a finished run to reconnect. **Expected behavior** The active agent records a clear approval or refusal against the exact card and user message. Ambiguous replies do not grant consent. Users can send another message without answering a question. The question remains pending in history and can be reopened and answered later. The saved answer reaches the agent. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Ask an agent to propose work with a confirmation card, then approve it in chat. 2. Check that the original card records that approval before work starts. 3. Ask an interactive question, send an unrelated message, and reload. 4. Open the unanswered question from history and submit an answer. Related work: #14408 added completion delivery. #14607 tests completion reporting turns. Neither records conversational answers on approval cards. ## What Changed - Add a confirmation endpoint backed by a user comment, with schema validation, OpenAPI discovery, and native Plan-mode access. Ask mode remains read-only. - Check company, active run, actor, current session, message provenance, revision, and resolver policy. Save the decision and audit in one transaction. Retries do not repeat effects. Emit resolution telemetry after commit. - Give fresh and resumed chat turns the actual pending confirmation identities. Teach agents to save clear conversational decisions before acting and to clarify ambiguity. - Keep unanswered Agent Chat questions as compact history entries. A newer user message closes the old form. Question cards never contribute to composer pending counts or navigation, including after dismissing a fresh form. The history card is the sole reminder; clicking it restores that exact form and draft. - Preserve Agent Chat questions when later messages or questions arrive. Historical ordinary inputs no longer gate later chat replies. Current-run requests, task execution, and governed approvals keep their gates. Remove the special acknowledgement-publication proof helpers that this rule replaces. - Route answers to finished native runs through durable fresh-wake delivery, with existing idempotency and source-question context. Settle late replies against contiguous completed conversation turns and freeze their history replay; failed, unhandled, and newly arriving messages remain actionable. - Add real-component Storybook scenarios, database and UI regressions, and a three-turn native Claude/Codex E2E case. Capture distinct, UI-ready screenshots and report the individual assertions. ## Verification - Focused decision/publication/UI regressions after merging master: 288 passed; subsequent UI draft, failed-send, and conversation checks: 199 passed. - Native question and durable delivery regressions: 106 passed, including all four terminal run states and exactly-once late delivery. Seven targeted regressions fail against the original implementation and pass with the fix. - Latest conversation/decision/native-delivery regressions after the master merge: 121 passed. Covers completed progress, missing or failed intervening turns, new messages during a late reply, stale sessions, and frozen retry/replay boundaries. Four new assertions fail before the ordering fix. - E2E support suite after the master merge: 792 passed. Negative controls reject expired cards, wrong questions/answers, stale or missing replies, unrelated clarification forms, and unexpected tasks. - The embedded-browser walkthrough caught one additional defect: dismissing a fresh question still showed a composer badge. Both Cancel and close-button regressions failed before the fix. The fix at `65f2ade12` passes 170 chat-thread tests and 792 E2E support tests. After merging master, 232 chat-thread/confirmation tests, server/UI typechecks, and token gates pass. The preview and two-provider live E2E pass at `e5512a206`; Greptile is 5/5 with zero unresolved threads at that commit. All 55 checks are now successful at `e5512a206` (four conditional checks skipped), including the aggregate verification gate and clean-install canary test. The first attempt was interrupted by simultaneous CI worker shutdowns; one failed-job rerun passed without code changes. - [Published Storybook](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/storybook/branches/codex~2Fchat-approval-resolution/?path=/story/chat-comments-agent-chat-unanswered-questions--moved-on): nine real-component scenarios. Manually exercised move on, reopen, preserve draft, answer later, answer one of multiple questions, and a custom mobile answer in the embedded browser. Retested fresh Cancel and close-button dismissal in the updated build, then reopened and submitted the preserved Green selection and inspected its answered receipt. Static preview has no live model/backend; its callbacks are fixture responses. - [First live campaign](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36714504406-1/) reproduced the late-answer completion-state defect on both providers despite correct saved answers and acknowledgements. It also exposed a valid imperative clarification rejected by the old oracle. Both issues are fixed with regression controls; this failing run is retained as evidence. - [Four-cell qualification](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36717804064-1/) passed 4/4 at `2bf8a1009`: unanswered-question return and ambiguous confirmation, each on native Claude and Codex. Inspected saved state, source-message decisions, visible cards, and agent replies. Both late-answer chats settled to waiting; no unrequested tasks were created. [Final branch rerun](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36719666238-1/) passed 2/2 at `142630720`: the same unanswered-question journey after merging master, plus an additional screenshot and browser assertion for the actual late-answer acknowledgement. - [Composer-reminder E2E](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36727006818-1/) passed 2/2 at `5b62c52d9`: native Claude and Codex, three turns each, with explicit no-badge assertions before and after reload. Inspected saved pending/answered state, both screenshots with a clear composer, and actual Blue acknowledgements; all five behavioral matchers passed per provider and neither created tasks. Cost coverage is partial; this is bounded workflow qualification. - [Fresh-dismissal E2E](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36742773318-1/) passed 2/2 at `e5512a206`: native Claude and Codex, including fresh Cancel, clear composer, reopen, unrelated message, reload, late Blue answer, and actual agent acknowledgement. All five behavioral matchers pass per provider. Inspected the fresh-dismissal screenshots and saved pending/answered identity; neither created tasks. Cost coverage is partial (4/6 runs). - Prior evidence remains available in [the earlier campaign](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-36642252725-1/). Its early loading screenshot and overwritten final capture prompted the UI-ready, distinct screenshot fixes. ## Risks - The model interprets intent. The server verifies permission and provenance; it does not infer consent from text. Ambiguous and unrelated replies are not approvals. - Historical questions can accumulate. They remain visible, pending, and answerable; no automatic answer or expiry is invented. - The change to completion gates is scoped to Agent Chat and ordinary historical inputs. Current-turn and governed approvals retain their existing controls. - Live qualification is limited to the selected stories. Broader native onboarding finalization remains separate work. - No database migration. Telemetry adds no fields or values; the contract and README document the commit boundary. Privacy review was requested on the PR. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser-test orchestration. The exact model ID and context-window size are not exposed to this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): align runner commentary with chat replies (#14716)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - Agent chat shows run commentary and the agent's reply in one thread. > - The runner commentary text starts 4px left of the following reply. > - The runner activity group omits the gutter that the reply bubble uses. > - This pull request gives runner commentary the same token-based gutter. > - Both text blocks now share one left edge. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** In agent chat, the first commentary line of a completed run starts about 4px left of the following agent reply. This is visible in the Codie conversation. **Expected behavior** Runner commentary and ordinary agent reply text should have the same left edge. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open an agent chat with a completed run that has commentary and an agent reply. 2. Compare the first commentary line with the following reply at the left edge. 3. Inspect the wrappers. Before this change, `task-chat-phase-interstitial` has zero left padding and `task-chat-agent-bubble` has 4px. ## What Changed - Add the existing `px-1` spacing token to runner commentary. - Add a regression test that compares the runner commentary gutter with the ordinary agent reply gutter. ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/task-chat/TaskChatRunnerActivityGroup.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatTurn.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatBubble.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` - A full repository typecheck and build passed earlier on this branch. All latest-commit CI gates passed, including the server shard after a transient preview readiness failure was rerun. - Browser render: runner commentary and reply paragraphs both start at x=32px after the change. ## Risks Low risk. This changes only the horizontal padding of runner commentary. Long commentary lines may wrap 8px sooner. The full local test suite was stopped after the code changed during its run; the focused UI tests and latest-commit CI suite passed. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This bug fix does not duplicate planned core work. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex. The runtime did not expose a more specific model ID or context window size. The agent used reasoning, shell tools, and read-only browser inspection to diagnose the layout and verify the change. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Browser Use Cloud connector and live task browsers (#14627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Apps gateway gives agents governed access to external tools. > - Browser Use Cloud can run browser work, but a tool result alone does not let a person watch or take over. > - A task needs a durable browser session, a visible viewer, and recorded costs. > - This pull request adds a Browser Use Cloud v4 connection and interactive browser tabs on tasks. > - People can follow the work, interact with the page, and retain the browser after the agent finishes. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need governed access to Browser Use Cloud. People need to see and interact with the same browser from the task. A browser must remain available after a run finishes and appear at the correct point in the task feed. **Proposed solution** Add a native REST connection for the v4 API. Bind each session to its company, task, agent, and credential grant. Open its interactive viewer in the task side panel. Record provider costs as financial events. Use `browser-use-cloud` as the app and connector key. Keep its skill with the connector and deliver it only with authorized connection tools. **Alternatives considered** A v3 MCP connection would expose tools without the v4 lifecycle integration. An external viewer link would leave the task. A fixed viewer size would prevent pages from responding to changes in the task pane. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the governed Apps gateway and Connected Apps roadmap. It uses the existing task, grant, secret, approval, and financial records. The work was requested by the maintainer. A search found no duplicate Browser Use connector PR or issue. ## What Changed - Add the Browser Use Cloud app, brand asset, API-key connection, and profile settings under the `browser-use-cloud` key. - Bundle the `browser-use-cloud` skill with the connector. Keep it out of global `skills/` discovery. Deliver it only with authorized task/run connection tools. Remove retired connector skill keys from runtime overlays and preserve unrelated browser skills. - Expose seven v4 tools through the governed gateway and deliver them to native and CLI agents. - Persist sessions, browsers, runs, event and recovery cursors, shutdown leases, and cumulative cost accounting. Recover uncertain paid starts without replaying them. - Enforce task ownership, credential grants, approvals, revoked access, and budget limits. - Add interactive task browser tabs and compact chronological feed entries. Retain the viewer across tab switches and keep visible idle browsers open. - Add debounced automatic viewport fitting, standard size presets, and a viewer ownership lease. - Add lifecycle, authorization, accounting, viewport, UI, and Storybook coverage. - Add an idempotent database migration after the current master migration. Preserve deployed migration hashes. Migrate pre-release Cloud connection and financial keys without replacing grants, credentials, or browser history. - Document provider behavior, live acceptance results, and the lack of documented passkey forwarding. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck and production build pass on the updated branch. - Token gates, brand asset validation, module boundaries, and migration ordering pass. - Cloud tests verify global skill exclusion, authorized task/run delivery, unassigned agents, disabled connections, revocation, adapter isolation, and secret exclusion. The existing AgentMail connector assignment test also passes. - Migration replay runs twice against existing browser work and financial records. It preserves the records and avoids duplicate costs. - The focused provider, app catalog, OpenAPI, connection gateway, and migration regression suites pass. Recovery coverage includes lost replies, process crashes, provider rejection, and browser arrival acknowledgement. - All 54 checks pass on `2974b5f03641ad0cea3c941d8c02579316fa8c92`, including the full test matrix, browser E2E shards, build, typecheck, security, and release canary. Two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit, with zero unresolved review threads. The corrected review uses the actual master-to-head diff. - The local `pnpm test:run` started and was stopped after the full CI matrix passed. It did not complete locally; the full-suite result above comes from CI. - Earlier live acceptance used an isolated company with a capped provider credential. The agent opened paperclip.ing, the embedded viewer accepted navigation, and the same browser stayed available after completion and tab switches. - The local Storybook build passes. Stories cover the panel, footer, feed entries, settings, lifecycle failures, and viewport modes with an offline viewer fixture. ## Risks - Browser Use charges for hosted work. Provider caps and local budget checks reduce exposure; reported costs can arrive after work completes. - Viewer and CDP URLs grant access to the browser. The server validates and restricts them. They are excluded from agent results and durable event data. - Runtime resizing of v4 agent browsers uses a provider option confirmed by live testing but absent from its published agent schema. Resizing during a click may invalidate coordinates. Fixed presets remain available. - Viewport ownership is process-local and resets on restart. The lifecycle and accounting records remain in the database. - The original intermittent embedded-viewer stall has not been fully diagnosed. A bounded reconnect and active-session recovery cover the observed failure paths. - Live tests did not cover every revocation, approval, rate-limit, or restart case. Deterministic integration tests cover those paths. Passkey forwarding is not claimed. - Unknown create outcomes keep the credential available for cleanup. Run-list absence cannot prove a paid POST was rejected, so recovery stays pending until it can identify provider work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. Used reasoning, repository search, code execution, browser interaction, and test tools. The exact serving model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: recover provider authentication inside tasks (#14629)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents need a working model provider connection to run a task. > - A provider can reject a stored credential after the task starts. > - The failed run must ask the responsible user to repair that connection. > - This pull request adds that request directly to the task and reuses Connections sign-in. > - The user can choose an API key or subscription, then continue the task with a fresh session. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A run that ended with `acpx_auth_required` or another known provider authentication error did not immediately offer an inline way to connect the provider. A repair form could also lock the user to the failed account's sign-in method. **Expected behavior** Show a provider connection card in the task as soon as the authentication failure is saved. Allow the responsible user to connect or repair the provider with any supported sign-in method. Keep the connection name automatic and resume the task after successful setup. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Run a task with a supported provider and an expired or invalid credential. 2. Let the run fail with a provider authentication error. 3. Open the task and attempt to repair the connection. Related work: Refs #13724 and #13726. This change adds the inline task repair flow and method choice. ## What Changed - Classify provider authentication failures and create one connection request for the current task. A persisted blocked classification suppresses automatic retries only after the repair card is created; unsupported providers retain their existing recovery path. - Mark only the attributed, unchanged credential as needing sign-in. Preserve credentials that were refreshed after the failed run started. - Reuse the provider sign-in controls inside the task. Allow API key and subscription choices for Claude, Codex, and Grok. Keep names hidden and generate a default from the user, provider, and method. - Keep the existing account when reconnecting with the same method. Create and select another account when the method changes. Validate updates to explicit agent bindings through the normal agent save path. - Require explicit adoption for legacy agent authentication. Validate in the agent environment, then commit the binding, connection install, audit, and card completion in one transaction. Keep failed setup and account selection visible and retryable. - Add regression tests and update the specification and Connections documentation. ## Verification - Fresh local verification: 199 tests passed across the inline form, provider method selector, default naming, authentication and recovery classifiers, run liveness, OpenAPI routes, database adoption/rollback, and Cursor execution suites. The adoption database suite also passed against disposable Docker PostgreSQL. - Full repository `pnpm build` and `pnpm -r typecheck` passed on the latest commit. Token gates are clean. - Embedded browser: opened real task cards from seeded authentication failures; switched Claude from API key to subscription and back; switched Codex from subscription to API key; confirmed the name field stays hidden. Provider sign-in was not completed with real credentials. - The broad local `pnpm test:run` started before review fixes and was interrupted after the working tree changed; it is not counted as a passing full run. Fresh focused tests passed. CI supplies the full test and browser suite results for the current commit. - CI is green on commit `4b97a4e447045ff3d7516525a187a5d1d21e0d4c`: 54 checks passed and two Storybook checks were skipped by their path rules. The workspace preview job passed on one rerun after a local-server startup timeout; its rerun passed 835 tests. - Greptile is 5/5 on the same commit with no actionable findings and no unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Incorrect authentication classification could prompt for a connection unnecessarily. Tests exclude tool authorization, quota, and unrelated runtime failures. - A method change selects the new personal provider default, which also applies to other agents that use that user's default. Explicit account bindings use the existing permission and runtime validation path. - Credential invalidation must not race with refresh or reconnect. The code compares the saved credential generation and grant update time under locks. - No database migration or new credential storage format is required. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact model ID and context window size were not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: reasoning, repository editing, shell commands, database tests, and embedded-browser interaction. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (focused tests listed above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): open text attachments in task tabs (#14297)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent work often ends with a Markdown or plain-text file. > - Task attachments currently open outside the task panel. > - Users need to inspect those files while keeping the task conversation in view. > - This pull request opens text attachments in task tabs and adds rendered, raw, and download controls. > - The same controls work in the mobile task drawer. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Opening a text attachment did not put its content in a task tab. Markdown files had no in-task rendered/raw toggle. **Expected behavior** Open Markdown and text attachments in one reusable task tab. Show Markdown as rendered content or raw text. Download the original file. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Upload a Markdown file and a plain-text file to a task comment. 2. Open each attachment from the task conversation or artifact list. 3. Switch Markdown between Rendered and Raw. Download both files. 4. Repeat at a mobile viewport width. Related work: #14193 controls artifact tab arrival. This change adds text attachment content tabs. ## What Changed - Route text attachment opens from conversation and artifact cards into task tabs. - Add a text attachment panel with accessible Rendered, Raw, and Download controls. - Preserve ordinary links for other file types. - Support the selected attachment in the mobile drawer. - Keep text-tab actions on the current rich artifact cards, including CSV previews. - Render attachment image references and diagram source without loading media URLs. - Add browser regression tests, component tests, Storybook examples, and usage documentation. ## Verification - Full workspace typecheck, production build, Storybook build, and UI token gates pass locally. - All 6,960 UI tests pass. The additional media regression passes against the real Markdown renderer and fails before the fix. CSV coverage verifies direct downloads and text tabs after preview. - Both desktop and mobile browser cases pass locally. They check rendered/raw Markdown, literal plain text, reusable tabs, review controls, and exact original download bytes. The local fixture used a separate database port because an existing socket occupied the default range. - The full CI test matrix passes on `82be5efbef26927b237a031725bb3d7fa79f637f`. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after this CI result; it did not complete locally. - Greptile is 5/5 on the final commit. All review threads are resolved, and the security scan passes. - All 54 final-head checks pass, including the canary dry run. The two optional Storybook jobs are skipped. ## Risks - Text attachment links now open in the task panel. Other content types keep their existing link behavior. - File display still depends on the existing authenticated attachment route. There are no API or database changes. - Raw text is displayed as text, including strings that look like HTML. Rendered Markdown keeps media references inert. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with code execution, browser testing, and subagent tool use. The runtime does not expose an exact serving model variant or context-window size. Recovered earlier implementation changes were reviewed and tested; their exact model metadata is unavailable. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(composer): match effort options to adapter execution (#14576)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is an open source control plane for AI agents. > - The issue composer lets operators choose a model and effort for a task message. > - The picker must show only effort levels that the selected adapter can execute. > - The Codex Runner fix in #14568 exposed similar gaps in other adapters. > - Grok hid a supported control. Claude used one range for all models. Kimi ACP showed a control that it ignored. > - This pull request aligns the picker with each adapter and adds matching stories. > - Operators can see and save supported effort settings without false controls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The composer hid Grok effort. It showed an incomplete effort range for some Claude models and a slider for Claude Haiku. It showed Kimi effort on the default ACP engine even though that engine drops the value. **Expected behavior** The composer should show only effort levels supported by the selected model and execution engine. Grok effort should reach its adapter as `reasoningEffort`. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Select a Grok agent and `grok-4.7`. Observe that the picker has no effort slider. 2. Select Claude Sonnet 5 or Haiku 4.5. Observe the generic low to high slider. 3. Select a Kimi agent on ACP. Observe the slider even though ACP ignores effort. Related fix: #14568. ## What Changed - Use Claude and Grok adapter capability helpers in the production picker and Storybook preview. - Map Grok composer effort to `reasoningEffort` in per-message overrides. - Show Kimi effort only when its agent uses the CLI engine, including when it runs its default model. - Show Grok effort when it runs its default model. - Add design and production stories for Claude, Grok, and Kimi ACP and CLI cases. - Document the picker rules and add focused tests. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/task-chat/composer-run-settings.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm test:run`, and `pnpm build` passed on the first commit. - The focused test, UI typecheck, token check, and Storybook build passed again after the review fixes. - Browser smoke: production stories show effort for default Grok and CLI Kimi, and hide it for ACP Kimi and Claude Haiku. ## Risks - Existing Kimi ACP agents lose a slider that could not change execution. Their stored effort override remains unchanged until the next edit. - Claude and Grok ranges follow their adapter catalogs. A provider can change model support before the catalog is updated. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex based on GPT-6. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Reasoning, tool use, and code execution were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runner): honor Codex effort selected in composer (#14568)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents that work on assigned tasks. > - The task composer lets a person choose an assignee, model, and effort for the next run. > - A Paperclip Runner agent can use Codex as its provider. > - The composer hid Codex effort for that agent because it checked only the older Codex adapter. > - The native Runner input also did not carry an effort choice to Codex. > - This pull request carries the chosen effort from the composer to each Codex turn. > - People can now select a supported effort and get the effort they selected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #14322 **What happened?** The composer showed a model but no effort slider when the assignee used Paperclip Runner with the Codex provider. A task-level model override also did not reach the native Runner input. **Expected behavior** The composer shows effort choices for a known Codex model. The next native Codex turn uses the selected model and effort. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task composer. 2. Select an agent that uses Paperclip Runner with the Codex provider. 3. Select a known Codex model such as `gpt-6-astra`. 4. Open the assignee and model picker. The effort slider is missing before this change. ## What Changed - Show known Codex effort levels for Paperclip Runner Codex assignees. - Save the task effort override in the native run input and send it to Codex on each turn. - Apply the task's merged model and effort overrides when the native run starts. - Apply a task model override for OpenCode Runner without changing the agent's provider. - Add Runner effort tests and desktop and mobile Storybook cases. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm build-storybook` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - Focused UI, server, Runner contract, and Codex driver tests passed. - The full CI test matrix, build, typecheck, and canary dry run passed on the latest head. ## Risks - Native Runner inputs add an optional Codex effort field to the current v5 input. Older inputs keep their previous behavior. - A known model rejects an effort that its catalog does not support. Unknown models do not show a slider. > This fixes an existing composer bug. I checked `ROADMAP.md`; it does not describe this bug as planned work. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The model used reasoning, code execution, and repository tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: OpenAI GPT-6 Astra <noreply@openai.com> |

## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets operators assign tasks to AI agents and review their work. > - The task composer controls the next message and its assigned agent. > - Operators needed a way to choose that agent's model and effort without leaving the composer. > - The old mode selector, upload button, and input cards made the mobile composer crowded and hid normal messaging during a pending decision. > - Harnesses publish different model and effort capabilities, so the picker must follow the selected agent. > - This pull request adds one responsive composer flow, keeps pending cards visible above it, and protects Codex ACP authentication in the local test path. > - Operators can choose run settings, send a message, and answer a pending card as separate actions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task composer UI, issue thread interactions, Codex ACP credential handling, and Storybook. **Problem or motivation** The composer did not expose model or effort for the selected agent. Mobile actions wrapped poorly. Pending questions and confirmations replaced the composer. A local Codex ACP test could also reuse host authentication after the managed key was removed. **Proposed solution** Put assignee search, model search, exact model IDs, effort, and fast mode in one picker. Use a mobile dialog. Replace the direct-upload plus action and separate mode selector with an Add menu and removable Plan or Ask chips. Place pending interaction cards above the usable composer. Keep these cards pending after an ordinary message unless their creator asks for comment superseding. Replace managed ACP auth files atomically and isolate the test key from host credentials. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md does not list an overlapping composer milestone. This change improves the existing task and review flows. ## What Changed - Added the combined assignee, model, and effort picker to both task composers. Search matches agent name, role, and harness. The server uses a curated Codex list by default and honors instance-declared models. Manual IDs remain available. - Added an effort slider for known model capabilities, a conditional Codex fast control, and reset. The picker opens in a modal on mobile. - Added the Add menu for files, supported goals, Plan mode, and Ask mode. Plan and Ask are exclusive removable chips. Keyboard mode cycling remains available. - Adjusted mobile spacing, avatars, wrapping, and Send placement. Removed the composer divider. - Moved pending question, confirmation, review, and related cards above the composer. Ordinary comments now leave question and confirmation cards pending by default. The onboarding prompt retains explicit comment superseding. - Updated the Storybook composer group with responsive states and the production picker. Added UI, service, route, and browser regression coverage. - Isolated Codex ACP API-key authentication, skipped subscription auth merge and shared-home copy-back for remote API-key runs, and replaced the managed auth file atomically. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm check:token-gates` — passed on the final local head. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/adapter-models.test.ts ui/src/components/task-chat/ComposerRunSettingsPicker.test.tsx` — 31 tests passed, including role and harness search, declared Codex models, and filtering general OpenAI models. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-thread-interactions-service.test.ts` — 74 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/acp.test.ts` — 42 tests passed, including remote API-key copy-back isolation. - `pnpm test:run` — attempted locally; the embedded PostgreSQL test database could not initialize on macOS. The isolated `heartbeat-run-event-sequencing` suite reproduced that environment failure. GitHub CI runs the full test matrix for this head. - `pnpm build` — passed on the final head. `pnpm build-storybook` passed after the last UI change; only server code, tests, and docs changed afterward. - Live local test drive — Codex ACP ran a task with a managed API key. The test agent was restored to its default ACP configuration afterward. - Review the interactive stories under the top-level Composer group with `pnpm storybook`. Check a narrow desktop width and mobile Plan, Ask, picker, and pending-question states. ## Risks - A pending card stays open when an ordinary comment changes the discussion. Its creator can set `supersedeOnUserComment: true` when a new comment should replace it. - Model and effort overrides persist on the task until reset or changed. An unlisted manual model ID may fail when the provider runs it. - Some harness catalogs do not report effort support. The picker hides effort for those models. - No database migration is required. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex. This runtime does not expose the exact model ID or context window to the task. The model used code execution and browser tools. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: OpenAI Codex <codex@openai.com> |

fix(ui): use large mobile selector modals (#14250)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The new task dialog lets an operator assign work on a phone. > - The mobile picker used fixed coordinates inside the Radix wrapper. > - iOS Safari already makes fixed coordinates relative to the visual viewport. > - The old code added the visual viewport offset a second time. > - This pull request removes the second offset and gives the mobile wrapper full viewport geometry. > - The benefit is a visible picker and search field when the iOS keyboard opens. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The assignee and project pickers could move outside the visible screen in the new task dialog on iOS. **What did you expect to happen?** The picker and its search field must stay visible above the bottom edge and the software keyboard. **Steps to reproduce** Open the new task dialog on an iPhone. Select Assignee or Project. The picker can move outside the visual viewport when Safari pans the page. **Paperclip version or commit** The problem exists after the change in PR #13343. **Deployment mode** The problem affects the board UI in local and authenticated modes. Refs #13343 ## What Changed - Use visual viewport local coordinates for the new task dialog. - Give the mobile Radix popper wrapper full viewport geometry. - Render both shared selector components as large, titled mobile modals. - Keep desktop selectors as anchored popovers. - Cover the new-task assignee, new-task project, composer assignee, and generic searchable selector in Storybook. - Add iPhone-sized Storybook states for the assignee and project pickers. - Update viewport tests for the corrected coordinate model. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx src/components/InlineEntitySelector.test.tsx` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - Playwright used the iPhone 14 device profile. All mobile modals were inside the 390 by 664 CSS viewport. - Each mobile modal was `x=16, y=16, width=358, height=632`. - A desktop check kept the anchored popover at `width=320, height=211`. ## Risks - Low risk. The CSS only changes narrow mobile viewports. - The full-screen popper wrapper does not receive pointer events. The picker still receives pointer events. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5.6, Codex agent with tool use and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal task ID - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant Storybook documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: use persisted state for lifecycle continuation and retry budgets (#13888)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Its control plane decides when a task can continue, wait, stop, or complete. > - Legacy continuation could change when an agent changed its wording without changing task state. > - Shared attempt counts also let repair and infrastructure retries affect each other's limits. > - This pull request uses persisted state and separate, bounded allowances for these decisions. > - If automatic repair stops, the task explains what happened and offers a guarded retry. > - Paired tests and real-provider evaluations verify that Stop, approvals, ownership, and spending limits remain authoritative. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related work: Refs #13761, Refs #11126, Refs #13610. These cover obsolete continuation dispatch and retry storms. Open and closed issues and PRs were searched for related lifecycle, continuation, and retry work. **What happened?** Legacy continuation depended on English wording and progress heuristics. Repair, failure retry, and productive continuation could consume shared counts. When bounded repair stopped, the task showed a technical recovery message without a clear next action. **Expected behavior** Persisted disposition and owned execution paths determine the next action. Missing disposition prompts bounded agent repair. Explicit work mode determines planning mode. Narrative changes and raw activity counts cannot replenish allowances. An exhausted repair shows a readable notice. An explicit retry checks current controls and preserves the assigned agent. **Steps to reproduce** Run `pnpm test:lifecycle-baseline`. The paired probes keep structured state constant while varying completion, planning, blocker, and progress prose. Run the explicit `lifecycle-baseline` and `continuation-accounting` Product E2E suites for real-provider coverage. In Storybook, open **Design previews / Recovery notice** to inspect the production component's normal, pending, acknowledged, unavailable, failure, and mobile states. ## What Changed - Hide the image attachment button, icon, and drop/paste hint in answer composers. Image paste and drop support remains available. - Merge current master and retain both browser regression sets. Use a production-stamped service worker in the offline recovery browser fixture. - Share one state-based legacy continuation decision across immediate, delayed, and recovered dispatch. Bind bounded repairs to their source run and episode. - Remove title and description wording from work-mode authority. Agents can still write requested plans in execution mode. - Persist separate failure-retry and productive-continuation counters. Disposition repair and resource waits cannot consume or reset those allowances. - Validate delayed repair identity, then recheck current gates before provider dispatch. Fence native startup cancellation. - Show **Agent needs attention**, a plain-language explanation, **Retry agent**, and expandable details in both task interfaces. Report request progress, acknowledgement, and errors inline. - Store typed recovery notice metadata. Recognize older active notices only through exact stored action and run IDs. Notice text never grants retry authority. - Use the existing recovery-action endpoint for retry. Recheck current action, status, owner, agent availability, dependencies, active runs, pending questions and confirmations, approvals, pause controls, and budget. Duplicate requests do not wake twice. - Add component, page, route, database, contract, and Storybook coverage. Keep the scenario inventory and executable evals here. Historical reports and snapshots live in the [commit-pinned paperclip-evals archive](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/blob/ce3e5afcd4a1184650f586a2b5b8be5874c66c8b/experiments/2026-09-lifecycle-authority/README.md). - Preserve unsaved project fields while the same project URL changes to its canonical alias. Do not reuse data across projects or companies. This separate fix addresses the repeated repository-editor browser failure without changing the browser test. - Keep the development service worker from intercepting Vite module reloads. Update the connection-intent browser fixture to record progress and completion through the agent API. ## Verification Merge preparation on September 25, commit `c1e8e4b7ddd9fbc4913ed55ce21b8e12906c2f97`: - Merged master `bd2030932` and resolved the browser test-list conflict by keeping both sets of regressions. - Deterministic lifecycle baseline: 1,090/1,090 assertions passed; no failures, skips, or missing selected evidence. Unit 423, runner 184, database integration 397, grading 86. - Browser support: 17/17 passed. The offline recovery test first failed with an unstamped development worker, then passed with the production stamp. Its assertions are unchanged. - Focused interaction UI and offline fallback tests: 19/19 passed. Verified the custom-answer composer in Storybook: no attachment controls or hint; entering an answer enables Next. - Recursive typecheck, production build, token gates, and diff checks passed. The worktree is clean. No new real-provider campaign was run. - Current CI and review: [Current PR CI passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36166011243): 55 successful checks and two optional Storybook skips. Greptile scored this exact commit 5/5. Hiding the question attachment controls is an intentional UI change; paste/drop remains available. Earlier recovery UI verification, commit `21be0fec0e90e86b6d662b8ee4831847cd041cdb`: - Recursive typecheck, production build, token gates, and diff checks passed. - Focused UI coverage: 338 tests passed across six suites (336 before the interaction guard, with the two affected suites rerun at 149 passed after it). Covers both task interfaces, the real page mutation, pending/error acknowledgement, stale state, and unavailable controls. - Recovery database integration: 352 tests passed before the interaction guard. The complete recovery-action and mutation-route suites passed 181 tests after it. The two new pending question/confirmation regressions failed before the fix and passed afterward, including resolved-interaction controls. Shared validator suite: 31 passed. E2E catalog suites: 34 passed. - Browser inspection passed for light/dark themes, mobile layout, expandable details, pending retry, acknowledgement, failure, and disabled retry. Storybook renders the production component; its request is simulated. - The broad local run hit two chat callback-order wait failures and was stopped after all CI unit/database/runner shards passed. Both local failures passed when rerun without the competing full-suite process. - CI exposed a repeated project-repository draft-loss race during canonical redirects. A new unit regression failed before the fix; all nine project-page tests now pass, including controls for other projects and companies. Both unchanged repository browser tests passed against a fresh local server. UI typecheck, production UI build, and token gates passed after this fix. - [Earlier PR CI passed](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36072486798) on `21be0fec0e90e86b6d662b8ee4831847cd041cdb`: 55 successful checks, two optional Storybook skips, and no failed or pending checks. The repository browser shard passed with the production fix. Greptile is 5/5 on this exact commit with no unresolved review threads. The PR is mergeable. Historical, source-qualified lifecycle evidence: - Lifecycle baseline: 1,074 assertions. Native session coverage: 447 tests. Product E2E support: 515 tests. Browser support: 11 tests. Full earlier verification is retained in the archive. - [Real-provider campaign: 8/8 passed, zero retries](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-35881382080-1/index.html), source `e88d210417280140b44a36449027290adcb1aeaa`. Evidence and cleanup checks passed. This includes deliberately exhausted repair cases that correctly remain blocked; it does not mean every task finished Done. This campaign predates the recovery UI change. - Archive migration verified all 16 original JSON files byte-for-byte and all 24 checksum entries. App tests do not need private archive access. [Archive PR #27](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/27) is merged. ## Risks - Agents that omit durable disposition receive at most two repair attempts by default. Prose-only completion exposes missing state rather than silently changing scheduling. - A retry is an explicit board action. The server rechecks current controls. A successful response confirms the task returned to To do; it does not claim that the provider has already started. - Existing notice metadata remains valid. Only older active notices with matching structured evidence receive the new UI. Historical notices without that evidence keep their existing rendering. No schema migration is required. - Old run records require conservative retry accounting. Tests cover old counters, alternating retry lanes, restarts, and exhausted repairs. - Historical snapshots require private `paperclip-evals` access. The app index retains public campaign links. Live campaigns qualify specific sources and scenarios; no new real-provider campaign has run for the recovery UI commit. > This fixes existing lifecycle and recovery behavior and does not duplicate planned core work. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex assisted implementation, reasoning, code execution, and review. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. Historical real-provider evaluations used Codex model `gpt-5.6-sol`, separately from the implementation assistant. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): add task artifact media gallery and full-row links (#13825)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Tasks collect the files and work products that agents create. > - The Artifacts tab shows these outputs in rows, which makes videos hard to compare. > - Small text links also make artifact rows harder to open. > - This pull request adds image and video tiles with previews and makes the full artifact row clickable. > - Users can compare outputs and open the existing media viewer with one click. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The task Artifacts tab and media previews in task chat. **Current behavior** Video outputs appear as file rows or icons. Users must click a small link to open a work product. A task with eight video outputs gives little visual context. **Proposed behavior** Show images and videos in a responsive gallery. Show a paused video frame as the thumbnail. Keep documents, links, and other files in rows whose entire area opens the item. **Reason and benefit** Users can compare generated media without opening each item. Larger click targets also make the sidebar easier to use. **Breaking changes** None. This uses the existing artifact URLs, media viewer, run grouping, and attachment filters. No API or database changes. Related work: #11226 added the task sidebar output surface, and #7361 added rich attachment previews. #3524 concerns a separate reviewed-assets panel. This PR improves the existing task artifact components. The duplicate search found no active PR for this change. This is polish for the shipped Artifacts & Work Products roadmap item. ## What Changed - Add a shared media tile for work products and agent attachments. - Reuse video and image previews in task artifacts and chat. Seek up to one second into videos and reset preview state when the source changes. - Use the existing task gallery for playback and downloads. Preserve grouping and attachment deduplication. - Extend native links and buttons across work-product rows, including keyboard focus indicators. - Add eight offline Storybook examples for video outputs, mixed media, clickable rows, narrow and wide panels, missing previews, empty state, and light mode. - Register the component in the design guide and document its use. ## Verification - 108 focused component tests pass, including thumbnail seeking, source changes, gallery activation, and attachment deduplication. - `pnpm build`, `pnpm -r typecheck`, Storybook build, token gates, and `git diff --check` pass locally. - Reviewed the production components in the embedded browser. Checked all eight video thumbnails, mixed media, narrow layout, light mode, blank-area row clicks, keyboard gallery activation for generic-MIME images, and playback from chat video thumbnails. - Storybook: open **Tasks / Artifact Gallery** and select **Eight Video Outputs**, **Mixed Media And Files**, or **Whole Row Clickable**. The small local clips are synthetic fixtures. - All build, typecheck, unit, runner, and end-to-end CI jobs pass for `b8ace289b5e07df5b9f2c319b159f3923ce427b4`. Greptile gives 5/5 with both review findings resolved. All 54 PR checks pass, including the external security scan. The full test suite passed in CI. The duplicate serial local test run was stopped after CI finished; the 108 focused tests, full build, and recursive typecheck passed locally. ## Risks - Video thumbnails require the browser to load metadata and a frame. A slow server or unsupported codec can leave the fallback visible; opening and downloading still use the existing viewer. - Full-row click targets change pointer interaction with work-product cards. Native link and button semantics remain in place. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with code execution and browser tools. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: continue native agent chats after worker loss (#13813)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent Chat uses native workers to run Claude and Codex conversations. > - A worker crash leaves a cleanup hold because its provider did not acknowledge suspension. > - A new user message must not reuse that unverified session or repeat old tool calls. > - The existing continuation path can preserve history and start a fresh session, but local cleanup ownership remained held. > - This pull request verifies the stopped local owners and releases only their cleanup hold for a new user turn. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13775. **What happened?** After a native worker crashed, both providers retained cleanup quarantine. A saved plan survived, but the conversation could not produce another answer. **Expected behavior** Once the old worker and provider process groups have stopped, a new user message can continue in a fresh session with the saved work and prior action history. **Steps to reproduce** Run the opt-in `agent-chat-qualification` suite with case `worker-crash-retry` on native Codex and native Claude. The fixture saves a plan, kills the exact worker through a Linux pidfd, releases a local read-only brief, and sends a new message. ## What Changed - Verify the exact local worker stop receipt, provider identity receipts, released leases, and retained state before retiring a native cleanup hold. - Recheck process liveness and state before admission. Keep the old run and durable session files intact. - Use the existing explicit conversation continuation path. Generic Retry remains blocked for cleanup quarantine, including on the old failed-run marker after a successful continuation. - Extend the live oracle to require a successful fresh session, correct predecessor context, unchanged plan, one original message, and one answer containing a reference introduced after the crash. - Add physical-proof and database-backed admission tests. Document the precise qualification scope. ## Verification - Live Product E2E: **2/2 passed**, **2/2 cleanup passed**, with real native `gpt-5.6-sol` and `claude-sonnet-5`, Chromium, server, database, and public APIs. - Core recovery proof source: `3592b04c2bc76e23795fcdf964720e38a409dc4d`. Suite definition version 8: `9867367994d81a0c726956d91f2c7fddab6417a12f41b5cef3f7e62f3be417da`. - [Core recovery campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35741746990) · [Public evidence report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-35741746990-1/). - Both cells verify the real crash boundary, blocked generic Retry, unchanged saved plan, one original prompt, one fresh successor with predecessor context, and one run-attributed answer containing the post-crash reference. Billing coverage is partial because the crashed runs did not report complete usage; missing cost is not zero cost. - [Master baseline](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35737364443): both providers stopped at quarantine, with cleanup passing. - [Follow-up baseline without the fix](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35738638866): Codex produced a complete red result. Claude reached the same error, but its artifact upload was canceled. - [Complete Claude baseline with the same version-8 definition](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35740555177): red at cleanup quarantine, cleanup passed, source `6479a90c5754044356b39a9278b9a3e92ce8e55e`. - Earlier candidate attempts remain retained: [first](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35738449214) passed Codex and found a Claude fixture wait race; [second](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35740408065) exposed the normalized session-open receipt mismatch. Both corrections are in the final source. - Targeted server suites: 570 passed before the final two additional receipt regression cases. The physical-proof suite, including those cases, passed 46/46. Eval oracle and catalog: 40 passed. Server and Product E2E typechecks passed. - **All 54 PR checks passed on final head `db6f775df`**, including repository typecheck, build, tests, browser shards, and canary dry run. The canary job required one retry after its runner received a shutdown signal. On the earlier core proof head, two timing-sensitive tests passed in isolation and on a single CI retry. - Final UI regression checks: 5 passed; UI typecheck and token gates passed. Updated eval oracle/catalog: 40 passed; eval typecheck passed. - Final version-9 two-provider campaign: **2/2 passed, 2/2 cleanup passed**, including the browser assertion that the quarantined historical run never regains Try again. [Final campaign](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35747416013), source `db6f775dfff405e1514ec02fedb0450d42c7dad2`, definition hash `bf5abf1cc45cb6dad4e082fbf818b8fa0f4d8c282776a7e98762b22919eadab7`. [Final public evidence report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-35747416013-1/). Final screenshots and retained state inspected for both providers; cost coverage remains partial. ## Risks - Missing or conflicting stop evidence keeps the conversation blocked. This change does not kill an unverified process. - This qualifies new user input after local worker loss. It does not enable automatic replay, exact-session recovery, remote crash recovery, or native onboarding defaults. - Old action outcomes remain part of the continuation. feat(onboarding): ClipLab sleepy-to-wake hero and step hand-offs (#13629)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents have a persistent visual identity (#13171): a ClipLab character in one of 17 palettes, rendered as cached PNGs in lists and as a live character in larger placements. > - The onboarding wizard is where a person meets that identity first, and it showed a stock ClipLab expression on the previous engine while the rest of the app would show a different character on a newer one. > - The wizard's steps also cut from one screen to the next, so the arc read as separate pages rather than one walk. > - This pull request puts one character on one engine everywhere, gives the wizard's hero the studio's sleepy → wink → idle sequence on Review, and hands the steps over inside one presence. > - The benefit is that what wakes on Review is exactly what the agent looks like on the dashboard afterwards, and the walk to it reads as one screen changing. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13171, now merged into master. This PR contains the onboarding and ClipLab update on top of that foundation. Original feature work by @tonio-alucema; merge preparation preserves the original commits. **Problem or motivation** The onboarding hero and the app's avatars were two different characters on two different ClipLab engines. Steps 1 → 4 of the wizard cut between screens, and the wizard mounted cold when a cloud-managed workspace arrived from Cloud's naming screen. **Proposed solution** Vendor ClipLab v0.2.0 as the shared engine and render one studio-exported character from it in every palette, for every pose and size. Play the export's one-shot wake on Review with the palette fading in over the gray dormant loop. Hand steps over inside one presence so the footer slides instead of jumping, and play the arrival half of that hand-off when the wizard opens directly on the agent step. **Alternatives considered** Exporting mp4/webm loops per size: no cursor following, no clean alpha, and the palette "colour in" is a runtime blend. Minting a `cap-v2` character version: nothing had shipped `cap-v1`, so the artwork is regenerated in place instead of migrated. Keeping the separately vendored runtime bundle for the hero: two engines and two characters in one app. ## What Changed - `packages/shared/src/cliplab`: re-vendored from ClipLab v0.2.0 (`987b6db0`) with the Paperclip adaptations replayed (optional graphics backend for the Node SVG snapshot path, supersampled live textures, character framing, deterministic SVG id prefixes); new upstream `particles.ts`. - `packages/shared/src/cliplab/character.ts`: the studio export, mirrored from `ui/src/assets/cliplab/onboarding.character.json` by `scripts/sync-cliplab-character.mjs` (drift caught by `check:token-gates`). `characterDefinition` builds every palette from it; the resting portrait is its idle beat. - `OnboardingCharacter`: gray `sleepy` loop through the agent and connect steps; on Review the one-shot sleepy → wink → idle plays on two lock-step canvases while the palette fades in, then the `idle` loop. Body-follows the pointer, page-scoped. 160px in the wizard. - `OnboardingWizard`: steps 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 hand over inside one `AnimatePresence` (departing content fades and gives its room back; arriving content opens its room then fills); the hero has a room that opens on the walk into the agent step; opening directly on the agent step plays the arrival half; the self-hosted naming step uses the arc's label and field. - Motion vocabulary in `onboarding-motion.ts` (`stepContentMotion`, `ledeMotion`, `heroRoomMotion`, `heroRoomArrival`, `titleSwapMotion`). - Storybook: `Onboarding / Character` (Wake Up), `Onboarding / Agent arc` walkable from the naming step plus `Arrive From Cloud`; the companies fixture answers the wizard's create call with a company. - Uses the shared runtime for onboarding; `doc/agent-personas.md` documents the shared character. - Releases both onboarding canvases after partial startup or transition failure. Registers each canvas before seeking so synchronous render errors can release it. Six component tests cover these failures and palette changes before or during wake. - Refreshes both sleeping canvases when the palette changes, including a palette change in the same render as wake. - Moves choreography values into the CSS token layer and preserves the shared motion catalog drift check across the imported stylesheet. - Repairs the static Storybook avatar route and uses accessible heading names/current button labels in the wizard play functions. - Closes the lazy avatar worker pool during application shutdown. ## Verification - Merge-preparation checks: `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, `pnpm build-storybook`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass. The final UI typecheck and 123 focused onboarding, lifecycle, and token catalog tests pass. All 55 checks on final head `b4f5e201a1564083d163abc6f93f5b3da06ccefd` pass, including the full sharded test suite, runner verification, and all eight browser shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35445430535)). The duplicate monolithic local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI completed; it is not claimed as a separate completed local run. - Chromium walkthrough: palette change, wake, return to sleep, WebGL failure fallback, Review step hand-offs and cloud arrival pass with normal and reduced motion; no browser errors. The signoff happy-path browser test also passes against a disposable instance. - The final CI run confirms the catalog fix and a passing signoff browser shard. The earlier signoff failure was a heartbeat-run availability timeout; the focused local reproduction and final CI passed without signoff code changes. - Original author verification: - `pnpm check:token-gates` (includes the new character sync check); shared, server avatar/persona (17) and UI onboarding/persona (137) suites pass; `pnpm build-storybook` packages all 3,564 avatar PNGs through the worker pipeline. - Storybook: `Agents / Personas` Sizes, Expressions and Palettes render the studio character at every size and pose; `Onboarding / Character → Wake Up` plays the wake on the shared engine; `Onboarding / Agent arc` walks 1 → 4 with the hand-offs, and `Arrive From Cloud` plays the arrival (measured: content room 6 → 65px over 320ms, fade to 1.0 by ~560ms, footer travel continuous). - The original author walked the agent → connect → review flow and wake after a real sign-in on staging. - Not done here: the Linux Storybook visual baselines (`tests/storybook-visual/agent-personas.spec.ts`) need re-baselining for the new engine, hero size and naming-step changes. ## Risks - Every avatar's pixels change (new engine, new character) under the unchanged `cap-v1` name. Stacks that rendered avatars on the previous engine keep those PNGs in their cache (`generated-agent-avatars/cap-v1/...`, served immutable) until cleared; only the two pinned staging stacks ever did. - The one-shot handoff to the idle loop is timed from the sequence's authored duration (the engine reports completion by continuing into idle itself); presentation only, nothing in the wizard's state waits on it. - Reduced motion skips the wake and the hand-offs; jsdom is treated the same way, so the wizard tests see the next step's content immediately. - The committed export differs from the studio by one animation (Loop off, leading idle step removed); a re-export without that fix would play a 5.6s idle before the wake. ## Model Used Original feature: Anthropic Claude Fable 5.1 (`claude-fable-5-1`) in Claude Code, with shell, browser, and file tools. The original context window was not recorded. Merge preparation and lifecycle regression fixes: OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, shell execution, file editing, GitHub CLI, and automated tests. The session does not expose an exact runtime model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(ui): integrate agent personas across the app (#13171)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A stable agent persona is useful only when the same identity appears across the app. > - Lists, task messages, selectors, and activity feeds need inexpensive static avatars. > - Onboarding and agent headers need a larger character with expressions and pointer tracking. > - This pull request connects the persona foundation to those existing views and preserves onboarding draft assignments. > - Full-page stories and Linux checks make the placements and performance contract reviewable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need a stable visual identity in lists, tasks, onboarding, and configuration. External tools also need an image URL for that identity. **Proposed solution** Assign each agent a permanent palette from a fixed ClipLab character library. Store the assignment on the agent. Render and cache preset PNG URLs on demand. Use static images in dense views and one animated character in larger placements. **Alternatives considered** A generated image bundle requires a separate asset build. A live renderer in every avatar adds unnecessary work in large lists. Arbitrary uploaded images do not provide the requested shared character system. **Roadmap alignment** This improves agent identity across existing control-plane views. It preserves agent permissions, company boundaries, and status labels. ROADMAP.md has no separate ClipLab persona milestone. Related approaches: #2422 adds configurable image URLs and DiceBear generation; #5578 adds optional uploaded avatars. This work uses a fixed, versioned character library and preset URLs. ## What Changed - Replace agent icons with static persona images across lists, the sidebar, org charts, tasks, comments, selectors, activity, and dashboard views. - Put one animated character in the agent header. Let it follow the pointer across the page, with reduced-motion and touch fallbacks. - Add larger padded characters to agent creation. Keep the palette stable across draft refreshes and connection retries, then reveal it after success. - Pass appearance through shared projections rather than fetching each agent separately. - Add real full-page Storybook examples for the agent list, overview, task, dashboard, new-agent dialog, and connection page. - Add Linux screenshot, clipping, density, and 500-avatar performance checks. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and token gates pass on the rebased tree. Persona lifecycle tests pass. - The rebased feature passes 38 Linux screenshot/performance checks, including both display densities, corner pointer positions, and the no-WebGL/no-live-download contract for 500 avatars. - The final Linux persona suite passes all 38 visual, lifecycle, density, and full-page checks using the standard Storybook configuration and real on-demand avatar endpoint. - Final local focused verification: 45 avatar/native-recovery tests pass; UI identity/routine tests, typecheck/build, token gates, and Storybook build pass. - Current-head CI passes: full workspace/server tests, all serialized server groups, typecheck/release checks, build, canary validation, and end-to-end shards. The build passed after retrying a native-runner concurrency-test failure; its three targeted cases also pass locally. - Manual inspection covered stable identities in the app, header placement, full-page mouse tracking, onboarding size, and task/dashboard placements. ### Screenshots Linux captures use synthetic Storybook fixtures. Full-page captures use reduced motion. The live character, mouse tracking, and disposal are checked separately. <details> <summary>Agent overview with the character in its header</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-agent-overview.png" width="900" alt="Agent overview with the character in its header" /> </details> <details> <summary>Task messages and assignee identity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-task.png" width="900" alt="Task messages and assignee identity" /> </details> <details> <summary>Larger onboarding character with room for expressions</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-meet-your-next-agent.png" width="900" alt="Larger onboarding character with room for expressions" /> </details> <details> <summary>Dashboard agent activity</summary> <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paperclipai/paperclip/8c68f42b268ada22b67d79d0fe1bb0a2f84ec25c/screenshots/full-page-company-dashboard.png" width="900" alt="Dashboard agent activity" /> </details> ## Risks - This PR depends on #13170, the persona foundation. Merge the foundation first, then retarget this PR to master. - Many placements change from icons to character silhouettes. Human avatars and authoritative agent status labels retain their existing behavior. - Only one character can render live per view. Reduced motion, hidden/offscreen content, touch input, and renderer failures use the defined fallbacks. - The full-page stories use fixture data. They do not contact a real company or complete real provider sign-in. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact model identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. Used code editing, shell execution, browser inspection, and Linux visual testing. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Tonio <tonework@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): confirm every copy action (#13603)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work
> - Much of the work means moving an opaque value somewhere else: an
agent id, a callback URL, a webhook secret, an error payload for a bug
report
> - Copy buttons all over the app do that, and most already say whether
it worked — an icon that flips to a check, a label that reads "Copied"
> - Eleven did not. They passed the promise to `.catch(() => {})` and
showed nothing at all
> - A copy that says nothing looks exactly like a copy the browser
refused, and the only way to tell is to paste somewhere and look
> - The clipboard really does refuse: over plain HTTP on a non-secure
host the async Clipboard API is unavailable, and the fallback can still
fail
> - This pull request gives every copy action an affordance, through two
shared hooks
> - The benefit is that a person can tell a copy from a failure without
leaving the page
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
Eleven copy buttons gave no feedback. They called `copyTextToClipboard`
and discarded the result:
```
onClick={() => void copyTextToClipboard(robotEmail).catch(() => {})}
```
Nothing changes on screen, whether the write succeeded or failed. This
is the same surface where most other copy buttons do show a check or a
"Copied" label, so the silent ones read as broken.
**Expected behavior**
Every copy action says whether the clipboard took the value. A rejected
write says so rather than staying silent or claiming success.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open the connector setup flow for an app that shows a sharing email
or a callback URL.
2. Press **Copy** next to that value.
3. Before this change nothing on screen changes. Compare with the copy
button on a login panel, which flips to a check.
4. To see the failure case, open Paperclip over plain HTTP on a
non-localhost host, where the async Clipboard API is not available.
**Paperclip version or commit**
`45586170e` on `master`.
**Deployment mode**
Local.
**Agent adapter(s) involved**
Not adapter-specific (core bug).
**Additional context**
Commit `1fa36be35` moved every copy through `lib/clipboard.ts`, so the
call sites are findable. Of 62 call sites, 51 already showed feedback
and 11 did not.
## What Changed
- New `ui/src/lib/use-copy-action.ts` with two hooks:
- `useCopyAction` for a control that stays on screen. It returns
`copied` and `failed` for the inline swap the rest of the app already
uses, and resets itself.
- `useCopyToast` for a menu item, which unmounts with its menu before an
inline state could be read, so its confirmation goes to the toast
viewport.
- Both wait for the write to resolve before reporting success, and both
report a rejection as a failure. `AdapterLoginChrome.test.tsx` already
held that line for one button; the helper now makes it the default.
- The eleven silent sites now use one of the two: the connector setup
flow's sharing-email and callback-URL buttons, the runner inspector's
copy-value and copy-path buttons, the agent bubble and skill studio menu
items, annotation "Copy link" on both its hosts, both secret-error
detail buttons, the chat webhook secret, and the motion tweak panel's
export box.
- The chat webhook secret follows its own file's convention: a label
that reads "Webhook secret copied", matching the manifest buttons beside
it.
- The 51 sites that already had feedback are untouched. Converting them
would be a large diff with no visible change.
- `clipboard-usage.test.ts` gains a static check, sibling to the one
that already keeps copies on the shared helper. It fails if a new copy
site ships with no affordance.
## Verification
- `npx vitest run ui/src/lib/use-copy-action.test.tsx
ui/src/lib/clipboard-usage.test.ts ui/src/lib/clipboard.test.ts
ui/src/components/AdapterLoginChrome.test.tsx` — 18 tests pass.
- The new hook tests cover the three cases that matter: no confirmation
while the write is still in flight, a failure state on a rejected write,
and a return to rest after the reset delay. The toast hook is covered
for both tones.
- `npx vitest run ui/src/pages/apps/AppsConnect.test.tsx
ui/src/components/task-chat ui/src/components/RunnerInspector.test.tsx
ui/src/components/DocumentAnnotation` — the suites over the touched
components pass.
- `npx tsc -b ui` — clean.
## Risks
Low. Each change is additive at its own call site and the copy path
itself is unchanged. The static check is the only part that touches
future contributors: it is one assertion, and its pattern list is easy
to extend or drop.

fix(task-chat): selecting an option no longer jumps to the next question (#13602)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An agent that needs a decision asks in the task composer, which renders a question set one question per page > - Single-choice questions use radio options, and the composer also ships a "Next" button and pagination arrows > - Selecting a radio option also set a pending advance, waited for a short confirm animation, and turned the page on its own > - That takes the page away from the reader while they are still reading it, and a misclick costs them the question > - Nothing on the option says that clicking it will navigate > - This pull request makes selection answer the question and nothing else > - The benefit is that moving between questions is always something the reader chose to do ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** In the task composer, selecting an option with a radio button jumps to the next question. `QuestionForm.toggleOption()` set `pendingAdvance` for any single-select question that was not on the last page, and an effect then read `--motion-question-confirm`, waited that long, and called `setPage(page + 1)`. With reduced motion it advanced immediately, with no pause at all. The result is that a click meant to answer a question also navigates away from it. There is no way to read the rest of the page after choosing, and no way to undo the jump other than pressing the back arrow. **Expected behavior** Selecting an option records the answer and stays on the question. Moving to the next question stays an explicit act. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Get an agent to ask a question set with two or more single-choice questions. 2. Open the question in the task composer. 3. Click one of the radio options. 4. Before this change the composer moves to the next question on its own. **Paperclip version or commit** `45586170e` on `master`. **Deployment mode** Local. **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific (core bug). **Additional context** Every route forward already shipped beside the options, so removing the shortcut traps no one: - a footer button that reads "Next" on any page but the last, and the submit label on the last; - previous and next pagination arrows; - "Skip" on questions that are not required. The same question sets render outside the composer in `IssueThreadInteractionCard`, which never had the auto-advance. This change brings the two surfaces to the same behavior. ## What Changed - `QuestionForm` no longer sets a pending advance when a single-choice option is selected. The effect that turned the page is removed with it. - Selecting an option still clears a submit error about a missing answer, which is the case that error is about. - The confirm-before-advance animation existed only to soften the jump. Its `--motion-question-confirm` token, its keyframes, its class, and the now-unused `confirming` prop on the option button are removed. - Tests that asserted the jump now assert the opposite: selection leaves the page number unchanged, "Next" advances, and number-key selection stays on the same question. ## Verification - `npx vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat` — the composer, interaction card, protocol card, and motion token suites pass. - `npx vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposer.test.tsx` — 87 tests pass, including four new tests for the stationary behavior. - `npx tsc -b ui` — clean. - Keyboard: options keep `role="radio"` inside a `radiogroup`, and a test asserts that number-key selection selects without navigating. ## Risks Low. One deliberate behavior is removed. It costs a reader one extra click per question on multi-question sets, and the explicit control for that click already existed and is already tested. ## Model Used Claude Opus 5 (`claude-opus-5`), 1M context, extended thinking, with tool use and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: queue approvals and answers during active runs (#13539)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Users guide running agents through messages, questions, and approval cards. > - Messages already wait in a queue when an agent is running. > - Card responses did not appear in that queue. Some question answers also steered a later run without a user click. > - A fast approval could invalidate the agent's review handoff and cause it to stop its own run. > - This pull request gives card responses the same queue controls and preserves the exact response during delivery. > - Users can wait for completion or explicitly send the response with Interrupt or Steer. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13517, which is merged. This PR targets master and adds queued interaction responses on top of the onboarding changes. Related continuation work: #10519 and #12866. **What happened?** Accepting a proposal while its source run was active left a saved response outside the message queue. The agent could then lose its review path, reassign the task, and cancel itself. Answers to older questions could also steer another active turn without a click. **Expected behavior** Save the response immediately. Queue its continuation behind the active run. Deliver it after completion, or when the user explicitly chooses Interrupt or Steer. Preserve approval revisions and answer choices. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Let an agent publish a confirmation card while its run is still active. 2. Accept the card before the agent finishes its review handoff. 3. Inspect the message queue and the task's next run. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on da8a3876c with the onboarding changes from #13517. **Deployment mode** Local development from source. The fix covers legacy adapters and native Runner turns. ## What Changed - Project resolved cards into the existing queue as immutable responses. Keep answers and exact approval revisions. - Require an explicit click to steer a response into a compatible native turn. Use Interrupt when a fresh session is required. - Preserve typed response context through interruption, cleanup waits, and normal queue promotion. Keep the direct answer channel for a provider blocked on its original question request. - Accept the source run's review handoff after its card resolves. Reject stale agent reassignment that would orphan a queued response. - Add deterministic regression tests and an `accept-while-running` case to the first-task suite. Require recorded timestamp overlap before that case can pass. - Keep the first-task skill name out of user-facing messages. ## Verification - Red-green: the original route failed the queue regression; the changed route passes it. - Focused server/UI tests: 139 passed, including 64 queue-route tests. - Runner harness unit tests: 314 passed. - Server, UI, and Runner E2E typechecks passed. UI token gates passed. - Full repository typecheck and build passed. Server typecheck passed again after review fixes. - Review regressions: 165 queue/reopen route tests, 53 wake admission tests, and 18 run identity tests passed. Approval acknowledgement recovery and both message/approval arrival orders are covered. - Full local test run: 12,401 passed; three new admission regressions ran against a cached pre-fix module. A fresh run of that entire suite passed (53 tests). The complete CI suite passed on the final commit. - Previous-head CI at `c28e2ef12`: 32 checks passed and 2 optional Storybook checks skipped. Every server/workspace/browser shard, Runner verification, build, typecheck/release registry, canary, policy, and security check passed. Greptile: 5/5, no unresolved threads. Earlier interrupted CI workers were replaced by this fresh complete run. - After integrating the updated parent: 314 harness tests, 119 queue/admission tests, 44 onboarding/question-delivery tests, and 13 native recovery tests passed locally. Full repository typecheck and build passed. - Clarified the skill wording preference: routine replies describe the action without announcing the internal skill; direct questions and permission/security/execution disclosures remain truthful. - The paid `accept-while-running` scenario is registered for all four local first-task profiles. It has not been run against a model in this change. - Rebased onto the merged parent at `11921075a`; the resulting tree exactly matches the locally verified integration tree. Final-head CI on `b53054807` passed: 54 successful checks, 2 optional Storybook checks skipped, no failed checks. Every new server/browser shard, aggregate verify/e2e gate, Runner, typecheck, build, canary, and security check passed on the first attempt. Greptile reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - Responses now wait instead of implicitly steering another active turn. A provider blocked on the original question still receives its answer directly. - Approval receipts cannot be edited, discarded, or reordered as comments. This preserves the recorded decision. - Interruption must still prove that the prior execution stopped. The tests cover cleanup waits and duplicate delivery. - The new paid overlap case can be unexercised if the model finishes before the click lands. It cannot pass without evidence of overlap. - No database migration is required. This repairs the existing approvals and execution controls; it does not implement the roadmap's work-stream queues. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The exact deployed model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. Capabilities used: agentic reasoning, repository inspection, code editing, terminal commands, and test execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: create company skills from runner tasks (#13538)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The Runner gives agents tools to change company resources. > - Users need agents to save reusable skills during a task. > - A saved skill needs a visible result that users can inspect and edit. > - This pull request adds `create_skill` and a task feed card linked to Skill Studio. > - Users can open the saved skill from the task and edit the same resource. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Runner tools, company skill storage, task feed, and Skill Studio. **Problem or motivation** The Runner has no dedicated tool to create a company skill. A user cannot follow a creation result from the task feed to the saved skill. **Proposed solution** Add a company-scoped `create_skill` tool. Save the skill with the existing company policy. Add one creation card to the task. Open a named sidebar tab from that card. Let the user open the same skill in Skill Studio. **Alternatives considered** An agent can write a local file, but that file is not a company skill. A second document copy in the task would become stale after a Studio edit. The sidebar therefore reads the saved skill directly. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the shipped Skills Manager, Skill Studio, and Skills Store milestone. The maintainer requested and approved this scope. Search found no duplicate `create_skill` PR or issue. Related UI validation work: #8715. This PR does not change that validation display. ## What Changed - Add the real Runner tool, its contract, and its mock implementation. - Validate the complete SKILL.md and derive company, task, agent, and run identity from authentication. - Apply the existing company skill policy. Do not assign the skill to an agent. - Make keyed retries return one skill and one creation event. Reject conflicting retries. - Make concurrent file creation safe. Never replace an existing published skill during creation. - Add a creation card, a named sidebar tab, and an Open in Skill Studio action. - Show saved Studio edits when the user returns to the task. - Add storage, policy, mode, retry, UI, and Product E2E tests. Document the tool. - Fix deleted-name reuse, onboarding panel persistence, immediate feed refresh, and mock validation parity from review. - Serialize Studio file edits and renames with skill deletion and recreation. Reject stale editor requests before they can change a replacement skill. - Generate the standalone mock parser and validator from the production contract. Use portable UUIDs so the browser scenario bundle builds. ## Verification - All latest-head PR checks pass on `145dd76a5`, including all server shards, browser E2E, Runner verification, build, typecheck, and release dry run. Greptile: 5/5 with no open findings. An interrupted CI runner was retried successfully. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - Review regressions: 73 storage tests, 6 real API tests, 63 UI tests, and 61 semantic runtime tests passed. Parser synchronization passed. - CI exposed existing fire-and-forget Sentry test races. Reproduced the resumption race locally, then synchronized the related sweep and finalizer assertions on the actual report; all 27 tests across the three affected files pass. - Runner scenario browser build and strict content-security-policy check: passed. - Runner suite: 2,012 tests passed; 10 skipped. - `pnpm test:run`: the general-server batch had 12,416 passes and two failures. The old tool-count assertion was fixed; all 16 authority tests then passed. The chat webhook test had a socket error; it passed four isolated reruns. - Both workspace test groups passed. The isolated route suites completed. Two socket failures in the initial route batches passed on individual reruns; all remaining 61 files passed. - Product E2E `create-skill-studio`: passed with local Codex and local ACPX Claude. - Manual browser test: submit a task, observe the real tool call and creation card, open the sidebar, edit in Studio, save, and return. The task reached Done. The saved second revision and sidebar tab survived a server restart. - The new companion headless Runner Eval passed. Companion coverage PR: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-evals/pull/23. Daytona was not run because no immutable runner image was configured. ## Risks - Database writes and local file writes cannot share one transaction. Recovery accepts only an exact file-for-file retry after a database rollback. Conflicting files remain untouched. - The sidebar displays the current skill. The feed card remains the historical creation receipt. - No database migration, dependency, or workflow change is included. - Remote Daytona behavior still needs a run with a configured immutable image. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (`gpt-6-astra`) handled design, integration, review, and browser verification. OpenAI `gpt-5.6-luna` assisted with bounded implementation and eval work. Both used code execution and tool access. The host did not expose the context window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): share compact live and saved activity across runners (#13421)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and inspect their work. > - Task threads show live activity and saved transcripts from several runners. > - Legacy runs used a separate activity renderer that expanded tool cards as commands arrived. > - A compact live row makes ongoing work easier to follow. > - This PR shares the native runner activity group across live and saved legacy turns. > - Both paths now use the same labels, icon gutter, animation, and history controls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: Refs #13255, which introduced rolling native-runner activity groups. **What happened?** During a legacy CLI run, each new command added an expanded tool card under an activity heading. The original legacy parity story rendered a completed turn, so it did not exercise this live path. **Expected behavior** Show one current activity line per commentary group. Roll that line forward when a new activity starts. Keep tool icons aligned on the left, use friendly labels, and show history only when expanded. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a task with the Codex local adapter using the CLI engine. 2. Ask it to read two files in separate tool calls and run a test command. 3. Watch the activity feed while the run is active, then expand its history. **Paperclip version or commit** The live behavior was reproduced on bdee5ebb21b2d09280e49c88bc329435da1b07c8. This update includes both live and saved rendering fixes. **Deployment mode** Built from source with the local test-drive command and a real Codex CLI agent. ## What Changed - Use `TaskChatRunnerActivityGroup` for both saved legacy phases and `TaskChatLiveTail`. - Align the legacy Working spinner with the shared activity icon gutter. - Cover streamed reasoning updates, successive commands, image labels, hidden details, and explicit history expansion in tests. - Feed raw legacy transcript events through the real adapter and live renderer in Storybook. Add live, expanded, narrow, light, and completed stories with the final reply preserved. ## Verification - Passed 195 targeted tests covering the live tail, status pill, shared activity group, native turn, and full task thread. - Passed UI typechecking, token gates, UI build, and Storybook build before submission. - Observed a real Codex CLI run while it read separate files and ran tests. The current activity stayed at one 32-pixel row without an accumulated tool list; the spinner and activity icon centers aligned. - Compared native and legacy Storybooks: identical rolling animation, fixed height, persistent expansion, truncated long labels, and correct light and completed states. - Full repository `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed after replaying the branch on current master, including the Rust runner. The full `pnpm test:run` suite is still running. ## Risks - Legacy activity now starts collapsed. Users can expand each group and each row to inspect the same transcript details. - Live runtime request cards must retain their timeline positions. Existing task-thread and native-runner regression tests cover this boundary. - No API, database, or transcript format changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex for the live-path fix, tests, and browser verification. Capabilities used: reasoning, tool use, local code execution, and image inspection. The exact deployment ID and context-window size are not exposed in this session. - The original saved-turn change recorded OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6; its exact variant and context size were not recorded. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): hide task chat attribution badge (#13251)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task chat shows messages from agents and users. > - An agent message can contain an internal on-behalf-of user value. > - The new task view showed this value as a badge next to the agent name. > - This badge added unwanted identity text to the task chat. > - This pull request removes the badge from the new task view. > - The benefit is a simpler agent identity row in the task chat. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The new task view shows a `for <user>` badge next to an agent name when a message has an on-behalf-of user value. **Expected behavior** The task chat shows the agent name without the on-behalf-of badge. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open the new task view. 2. Show an agent message that has an on-behalf-of user value. 3. See the attribution badge next to the agent name. **Paperclip version or commit** The issue occurs on `master` at commit `d0b7ba419`. **Deployment mode** Local dev and all other modes that use the web UI. ## What Changed - Removed the attribution chip from the task chat agent identity. - Added a regression test that supplies an on-behalf-of value and confirms that the badge is absent. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/task-chat/TaskChatBubble.test.tsx` passed with 21 tests. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` passed. ## Risks - Low risk. The change only removes one badge from the new task chat view. - The message data remains unchanged. > This is a small UI fix. It does not add roadmap scope. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.4, with reasoning and tool use. The provider did not expose the context window size. `docs/no-internal-issue-references`, `fix/sandbox-secret-resolution`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: preserve runner recovery, warm sessions, and task outcomes (#13338)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The native runner connects task messages, provider execution, and task outcomes. > - First-time user tests exposed gaps in recovery, completion permissions, message delivery, and Stop behavior. > - These gaps left usable output hidden, completed work waiting for bookkeeping, or safe work unable to continue. > - This pull request fixes the shared lifecycle and receipt paths while preserving process ownership and action checks. > - Users can continue work with accurate task state and durable messages. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A stopped local Codex execution could remain blocked even after its processes had stopped and its complete transcript proved that no external action needed replay. Claude under Conservative permissions could fail to call task completion tools. Recovery could reuse an assistant item ID and overwrite prior output. A delivered comment could remain marked uncertain after navigation. Stop could look like Pause or a new recovery incident. Workspace contention could look like cancellation. A direct reply reopening Done could enter a clarification loop. **Expected behavior** Recover automatically only with verified termination and complete action receipts. Preserve answers and messages. Keep task completion available under Conservative permissions without broad tool access. Show crashes as Blocked, actual human decisions as In Review, and ordinary workspace contention as waiting. Stop the current response and allow a new direction. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Create ordinary response tasks with local Codex and Claude Code, then send follow-up messages through the task composer. 2. Interrupt a disposable local Codex runner during text-only work. Verify automatic continuation and retained output. 3. Stop a response, send a new request, answer a clarification, and reopen completed work with another message. 4. Navigate or reload while a comment submission is pending. Confirm the exact persisted request receipt settles it without removing newer draft text. 5. Run two tasks in a shared Daytona workspace. Confirm waiting does not appear as failure. **Paperclip version or commit** Initial acceptance baseline: `c9021c6721f91e2c74bd9fee9d3fd41c999d17b7`. Current integration base: `6cef9743c`. Both operator-interruption and workspace-waiting guards are preserved; native restart and legacy permission rules remain documented. **Deployment mode** An isolated source-built test-drive instance, with real local Codex and Claude Code providers and disposable Daytona environments. Related work: #13314, #13316, #13327, #13344, #13239, #13254, #13163. This PR addresses additional failures from ordinary task journeys, including controller restart handoff and repeated warm sandbox setup. Historical task status reconciliation is excluded. ## What Changed - Persist runner ownership immediately at spawn and resume an explicitly adopted runner even when the controller crashed before the first driver checkpoint. Detach the controller safely across graceful restarts, including session startup. Prevent an old finalizer from suspending or signaling an adopted runner. Checkpoint idle warm sessions before shutdown. Preserve the same run and queued follow-up messages. - Scope saved legacy queue successor checks to the queue owner while preserving ordinary task locks, operator identity, assignment gates, and exactly-once delivery. - Preserve managed Codex credential files when an old session is detached for restart; normal owned cleanup still copies refreshed auth back and removes the scoped copy. - Reuse the bound warm shared sandbox and fully verify an existing staged provider pack before using it. This avoids repeated uploads when the pack is already valid. - Add a narrow local Codex replacement path with stopped-process proof, a closed transcript inventory, exact completion receipts, and fresh-session lineage. Preserve no-replay holds when evidence is incomplete. Recovery may clear only the same run's recorded Blocked status version; manual re-blocking and dependency changes invalidate that receipt, while queued comments do not. Later blocks stop scheduled, queued, and final dispatch; queued/final checks re-read dependencies even when the task status stays In Progress. - Permit only task delivery and human-input tools through the isolated Claude runner's exact task bridge. - Scope assistant item identity to the provider turn and ignore only authority-free Codex skill-change notifications during startup. - Reconcile composer submissions by client request ID across response loss, navigation, and reload. Retain text typed during delivery. - Keep acknowledged run-only Stop neutral and show workspace contention as waiting. Project exhausted native failures as Blocked. - Restore the guarded task-page retry action for failed legacy runs, including the server-supported explicit new-attempt path for stopped conversation adapters. Preserve native/process recovery holds and avoid promising Retry while a decision or execution gate hides it. - Refresh delivered artifacts and handle direct user replies that reopen completed work without a clarification loop. - Check the embedded PostgreSQL PID, data directory, and actual port before connecting or migrating. - Document accepted behavior and add focused regressions at lifecycle, route, transcript, and UI boundaries. ## Verification - Final head `fece606ac2` passes the complete GitHub CI matrix: **34 green checks, two expected Storybook skips, no failures or pending checks**, including `ci / verify`, `ci / e2e`, full runner verification, typecheck, build, every server/workspace shard, and all browser shards. [CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34727183287). Greptile is **5/5 with no open findings**. The final two commits only refine test fixtures; both affected suites pass 24/24 locally and in CI, with server typecheck green. - Complete local Vitest coverage uses the canonical groups/shards: all 635 general server suites, all 145 serialized suites, and all workspace packages. The aggregate began on `0a8001c18` while the final queue fix arrived: 23,903 passed, five failed, 87 skipped. The five port/socket/timing failures passed unchanged in follow-ups (60 tests in the exposure/file suites and 412 tests covering the serialized failures and unrun tails). The final queue/operator-identity suites separately passed 52/52. This is aggregate coverage plus explicit reruns, not a pristine single-command final-head run. - After integration with current master, queue/operator-identity/continuation suites passed 162/162 and affected UI suites passed 140/140. ACP Stop/continuation and legacy task/Inbox/message browser suites passed 9/9, including both task recovery Retry and thread Try again, automatic saved-message delivery, exactly one new run, Done, and retained output after reload. The default process Stop/Pause/Resume browser case passed (the native-provider case is opt-in and skipped by default). The complete Board attachment/receipt browser suite passed 11/11 on a disposable instance, covering both composers, exact receipts after lost responses, no replay, bound attachments, and newer drafts after reload. - Blocking-intent regressions cover pre-existing Blocked, a mismatched run/cause, an explicit manual re-block, changed dependencies, a queued comment after failure, and a block arriving between scheduling and provider dispatch. The negative cases reproduced before the fix. All 478 affected executor/recovery/dispatch tests passed; both database suites ran separately after availability-probe skips in the first combined command. The final late-dependency check passed all 143 affected recovery/dispatch tests (zero skips) after two new negative cases reproduced the bug. - Focused runtime regressions cover awaited runner ownership publication, authenticated adoption before the first checkpoint, old-finalizer detachment, idle and busy warm-session shutdown, rejected checkpoint propagation, provider-pack verification, and managed-Codex credential preservation. Four managed credential detachment cases reproduced the bug before the fix; normal owned cleanup still succeeds exactly once. - Live local Claude: SIGKILL 2.6 seconds into startup recovered the same run automatically in 53 seconds, then a normal follow-up completed in 24 seconds. SIGTERM 2.5 seconds into startup preserved the same run (54 seconds) and its queued follow-up (21 seconds). Answers remained visible and the task reached Done. - Live Claude Daytona: a warm follow-up retained its sandbox and fell from 121 seconds to 44 seconds. A separate cold turn took 127 seconds; after controller shutdown and checkpointing, its follow-up completed in 33 seconds with the same sandbox, workspace, native session, and runner. Both answers remained visible and the task was Done. - Other live journeys covered task completion and follow-up with local and Daytona Codex, local Codex crash recovery, Stop then new direction, clarification response, live artifact refresh, and shared-workspace waiting. - Validation limits: the opt-in native composer Stop/Pause→subtree Resume fixture exposes terminal/result ordering and subtree-cancellation attribution bugs that can leave a child task blocked; that new finding is assigned to a separate follow-up and is not claimed fixed here. Default CI skips this optional native-provider fixture. Managed-Codex credential handoff and the queue-agent integration use automated regression evidence. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency. ## Risks - Automatic replacement remains deliberately narrow: local Codex, verified stopped identities, unchanged retained state, and a complete text/completion-only turn. Unknown actions, partial history, or changed ownership remain blocked. - Claude completion permission handling changes an upstream package patch. The exact isolated task bridge must remain pinned; unrelated tools keep their existing permissions. - New task failure projection changes user-visible status. No historical status backfill or database migration is included. - This is a broad lifecycle fix across server and UI. Live proof covers graceful local Claude restart during startup and idle Claude Daytona session recovery across controller shutdown. Live abrupt SIGKILL during local Claude startup also recovered the same run. Unknown ownership or missing action evidence still blocks reuse. Cold custom provider-pack uploads still add startup latency; this change avoids unnecessary repeat uploads. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), with reasoning, code execution, browser automation, and tool use. The exact hosted model ID and context window are not exposed in this task. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: dispatch queued legacy messages with operator identity and task permissions (#13315)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task conversations save messages that arrive during an active turn. > - Legacy adapters deliver these messages in a later turn. > - A run can stop before the saved queue is delivered. > - The Interrupt button previously required an active run, so it could not release this queue. > - This pull request lets a board operator send the saved queue after the run stops and retries queues missed during finalization. > - Manual dispatch must use the clicking operator and must not require permission to create agents. > - The task can continue without a duplicate message or a second execution owner. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A legacy task retained a queued message after its run stopped. Interrupt was disabled because the queue had no active target. Finalization and deferred message admission can also leave a queue without a successor. **Expected behavior** Interrupt sends the saved messages when no runner is active. Messages that arrive during normal completion are delivered automatically. An uncertain previous execution still requires proof that its process or sandbox stopped. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Queue a user message during a legacy conversation turn. 2. Let the turn stop or simulate a server restart before queue promotion. 3. Open the task with a deferred queue and no active run. 4. Try Interrupt. Before this change, the button is disabled. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced against `8f40b4ad4`. **Deployment mode** Legacy conversation adapter. The same persisted queue state is covered with an isolated PostgreSQL fixture. Related public work: #13275 adds active legacy interruption. #13291 addresses automatic sandbox conversation recovery. This change handles explicit saved-queue delivery and late queue promotion. ## What Changed - Accept a null Interrupt target while retaining queue identity, revision, company, and assignee checks. - Save the operator's request on the existing queue. Reuse normal admission after verified stop, including older messages, different authors, and queues whose original wake came from the system. - Strip interruption authority from caller-supplied wake payloads. Only the board queue route can persist that authority. - Retry durable interruption requests after restart and deferred queues after legacy cleanup. - Let an explicit Interrupt retry cleanup for its stopped run, including old ephemeral leases that recorded success without a provider stop receipt. Preserve retained resources, other lease owners, and the automatic retry limit. - Preserve the server's waiting explanation when normalizing and combining queue entries. - Revalidate the consumed board queue receipt at dispatch so a different message author does not cause setup failure. - Use the Interrupt user's execution identity for the new run. Preserve original message authors. Validate the receipt independently at startup and inherit the resulting identity on retry. - Persist authenticated board authority for ordinary manual wakes too. Adopting someone else's queued messages cannot switch a manual run to that author's permissions. Strip caller-supplied authority markers and retain private conversation ownership checks. - Keep the clicking user when a manual wake is merged into an older deferred receipt. Update its requester and payload in the same transaction. - Use the same current-queue/revision API on task details and pipeline conversations; show Interrupt after a legacy target stops. - Keep manual wakes out of active runs, including unscoped agent wakes. They receive their own execution identity; a matching receipt requester is not sufficient because an exact retry can retain a different originating identity. - Authorize both existing-agent wake endpoints with `agent:wake`, available to active non-viewer company members. Keep `agents:create` for hiring. Validate the stored task and current assignee before an exact task retry. - Reject viewer Interrupt requests before saving intent or stopping execution. Keep external chat retry authorization and per-action agent/user permission checks. - Preserve edits and discards until dispatch. Prevent another queue promotion when the same agent already has a successor. Keep independent reviewer recovery available. - Suppress cancelled/failed run toasts for intentional operator interruption. Keep ordinary runtime error notices. - Add UI, route, admission, restart, successor ownership, and toast regression tests. Document the behavior. - Reuse the existing socket reservation helper for both credential-quorum test cases after CI exposed an ambient-port collision. This changes test preparation only; production credential staging is still called exactly once. ## Verification - Failing regression tests reproduced the message-author identity bug and an operator's `agents:create` rejection before the fixes. - All 316 focused tests pass across eight route, queue, identity, authorization, continuation, and responsible-user suites, including the 44-test rerun of queue admission and actual startup after the final manual-wake restriction. Regressions reproduce cross-user merging both with and without a task, and same-requester receipt ambiguity. The cross-company existence guard also passes both tests. - Startup integration tests reach adapter execution under the clicking operator and retain that identity through follow-up. Coverage includes mixed authors, adopted queues, system-origin queues, restarts, forged or stale receipts, viewers, suspended memberships, changed assignees, private conversations, and caller-supplied authority markers. - The earlier queue/cleanup/UI regression suite passed 402 tests. The final review corrections pass another 180 tests across queue admission/persistence, real heartbeat startup, UI API, conversation rendering, and pipeline suites. Regression tests reproduced both review findings before correction. The final head has a 5/5 review with no unresolved threads. Full CI passes on `c2002979c`, including every general and serialized server shard, all browser shards, Paperclip Runner verification, typecheck, build, canary dry run, and the aggregate gates. - Full `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and UI token gates pass after the final application changes. CI identified an outdated task-page API mock after the shared helper extraction; the fixture now exercises the real helper, and all 131 task-page/API tests pass. The final application build passes with the additional manual-wake restriction. - CI exposed a pre-existing port collision in the Codex credential-quorum fixture. It reproduced locally; both listener cases now use the existing bounded reservation helper. All 41 credential tests pass on rerun. One intervening local run hit a separate ambient bind collision in the two-occupied-port case. - The full local `pnpm test:run` attempt was stopped after host contention caused focused-suite timeouts. The affected focused tests passed on rerun. An expiring trace fixture and a missing private-conversation state were corrected. The successful full CI run is the complete-suite verification. - Hosted Interrupt previously cleared the original queue and produced exactly one successor with neutral interruption feedback. It exposed the dispatch authorization defect. Retry on that earlier build was rejected for missing `agents:create` before creating another run. - Deployed the final application build (`38257f391`) to the scoped hosted instance and verified readiness. The latest PR commit changes only the credential test fixture; application code matches that deployment. A live Retry by the same operator without `agents:create` created one successor attributed to that operator, passing the former dispatch permission gate. Startup then stopped at `configuration_incomplete` because that operator has not configured their required personal Claude Code OAuth secret; the post-deployment run page confirms the operator identity and no provider work started, and the My secrets UI still shows the token as not set. Provider execution remains unverified pending that credential. No permission grants or credentials were changed. ## Risks Queue admission and finalization can race. The task lock, durable queue receipt, current comment IDs, and successor guard prevent duplicate dispatch. Process and lease stop checks, task pauses, approvals, ownership, and budgets remain in force. The API change only allows null on legacy Interrupt; native steering still requires an active run. No schema migration is required. Active non-viewer board members can now invoke existing agents without agent-creation permission. Agent self-invocation rules, raw provider-trace admin access, task retry scope, external chat authorization, and action-specific user/agent permissions remain enforced. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The session does not expose an exact backend model ID or context-window size. feat(channels): add experimental iMessage Photon (#13299)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Channels connect external conversations to company tasks and agent execution. > - Slack, Discord, and AgentMail already provide durable delivery and access controls. > - People also need to reach an agent from Apple Messages and send photos. > - Photon provides shared Pro DMs, dedicated numbers, and authenticated event recovery. > - This pull request connects Photon to the existing channel services. > - People can message an agent while Paperclip retains task ownership and approval authority. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: channel services, shared contracts, database constraints, Apps, and agent Channels UI. **Problem or motivation** Paperclip has no iMessage channel. A person cannot use Apple Messages to start a task, send a photo, or answer an agent's pending question. **Proposed solution** Add experimental **iMessage Photon** with Pro-compatible shared DMs or a dedicated Photon Cloud number per agent channel. Reuse channel admission, identity links, task generations, publication, and interaction continuation. Keep groups disabled for shared allocation. Dedicated lines support groups that an operator explicitly enables. Require a fresh linked message and a published agent response before setup completes. **Alternatives considered** Shared allocation has no owned phone number, so it reserves one project and allows DMs only. Dedicated allocation reserves one stable number. Local Mac access needs a separate deployment model. The upstream Photon Chat SDK adapter does not persist the poll mappings and send receipts required here. This change uses the lower-level SDK without adding another agent runtime. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Connected Apps and agent communication through the existing channel subsystem. It does not add a parallel tool connection or agent loop. GitHub searches for Photon and iMessage found no matching provider implementation. **Additional context** This ships behind the existing experimental channel gate. Dedicated-line release qualification remains incomplete. Real Photon Pro DMs passed task/reply, native poll, text answers, confirmation rejection, media, restart, pause, reconnect, revocation, and removal tests. An operator-supplied iPhone camera HEIC also passed the full round trip. Dedicated groups remain unqualified. See [the verification record](doc/connections/IMESSAGE-PHOTON-VERIFICATION.md) and [the implementation plan](doc/plans/2026-09-11-imessage-photon.md). ## What Changed - Add the provider catalog entry, shared setup contracts, and a forward migration. A global partial index reserves the dedicated number or shared project until its endpoint is archived. - Add Cloud project inspection, vaulted project credentials, selected-line token renewal, and a leased receiver. Persist checkpoint updates under the receiver lease. Shared project replay accepts sparse increasing sequences only after a complete recovery barrier. - Connect DMs and enabled groups to existing task generations, sender authorization, ordered delivery, and publication services. Keep each iMessage conversation on its task after completion; only explicit `/new` or `/close` releases the binding. Publish committed inbound comments live and label their human bubbles “Sent from iMessage” in both task-chat renderers. - Persist immutable text/file send identities, upload receipts, poll IDs, option IDs, per-person drafts, and canonical interaction continuation proofs. - Add source-bound file recovery, bounded HEIC/HEIF conversion, JPEG previews, and related Live Photo companion video retention. - Add the three-step setup flow and channel management surfaces with official branding. Preserve the experimental gate and existing pause/disconnect behavior. - Add interactive production-component Storybooks for setup, access, recovery, and ongoing conversations. Add provider, integration, catalog, and browser regression coverage. Document setup, recovery, supported boundaries, and qualification gaps. ## Verification - Live Photon Pro, SDK 2.1.0: linked iPhone messages create a task and receive native Codex replies in Apple Messages. Unlinked senders cannot start work. - Three real follow-ups each reopened the same completed task. Incoming bubbles appeared on its open page without reload and showed “Sent from iMessage.” The third follow-up ran after restarting the server on `4d7222110`; the agent correctly repeated its previous reply from before the restart. - Native polls after restart, sequential text drafts, required-field correction, explicit submission, approval rejection with a required reason, and native continuation passed against Photon. - PNG, text documents, synthetic HEIC, and a real iPhone camera HEIC passed in both directions. The camera photo produced a 3024×4032 JPEG preview. The native agent described it and returned the received HEIC byte-for-byte. - Pause/resume, reconnect, identity revocation, removal, `/status`, `/new`, `/close`, and stale answers after close passed live. Messages suppressed by pause did not become work on resume. Removal stopped intake and removed credential bindings. - All 304 focused tests passed on `4d7222110`. These cover Photon unit/integration behavior, both task-chat renderers, live comment hydration, completed-task continuity after restart, enabled groups, duplicate delivery, and explicit reset/close. The selected Teams completion-boundary regression also passed. Full workspace typecheck/build and token gates passed for the conversation fix; the final UI changes passed their affected typecheck/build and tests. - All 26 new Photon Storybook Playwright cases passed in light and dark themes, including the complete shared-DM setup journey and 390px mobile follow-ups. UI typecheck and the Storybook build passed. These stories use simulated Photon responses and do not replace the live evidence above. - The full chat-adapters browser suite previously passed all 39 cases. Migration checks passed, and migration 0275 applied to the isolated live instance with the earlier Photon migration already applied. - The local full Vitest run was previously interrupted by the host's embedded-Postgres shared-memory limit; it is not a full-suite pass. All 30 applicable CI checks passed on preceding head `7a5419cac`, with two skipped checks and Greptile 5/5. Head `24f8e1aae` adds an explicit required-story discovery guard to the 26 passing Storybook cases. Greptile rates this final head 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. All 30 applicable CI checks passed, with two optional checks skipped. - A repeated live send key suppressed the duplicate but returned gRPC 6 / SDK `internalError` without an original receipt. Paperclip keeps unknown delivery unresolved. This provider behavior is covered by a regression test. - See [the verification record](doc/connections/IMESSAGE-PHOTON-VERIFICATION.md) for package versions, redacted live evidence, deterministic coverage, and remaining qualification gaps. ## Risks - Dedicated group qualification remains unrun; groups are disabled for the approved Pro scope. Real iPhone camera HEIC passed transport, preview generation, agent inspection, and return. Keep the channel experimental; the dedicated-line release matrix remains incomplete. - Shared recovery and attachment aliases were verified against the live gateway. Duplicate writes currently return an error without the original receipt; unresolved sends require operator resolution. The implementation fails visibly on invalid replay ordering, a reset cursor, or changed identity. - The HEIF converter passed on macOS arm64 and in Linux CI. Windows HEIF binaries have not been executed in this work. Linux musl has no packaged converter. Unsupported conversion retains the original and reports the missing preview. - The migration adds a global reservation across companies for Photon numbers and shared projects. Paused and revoked endpoints keep that reservation until removal. - Integration touches shared channel services. Existing provider browser coverage passes; broad repository verification is recorded above. - `pnpm-lock.yaml` is intentionally excluded under repository policy. The repository bot owns lockfile updates. The additional Superagent supply-chain scan is neutral/inconclusive because these new dependencies are not yet in the committed lockfile. Its security scan passed; all required CI checks pass. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, browser testing, and tool use. The exact served model identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. No sub-agents were used. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add experimental persistent agent chat (#13284)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Conversations must use the same tasks, controls, and execution history. > - Users need an ongoing chat with an agent without managing task properties. > - Agents should clarify and plan work, then hand execution to assigned project tasks. > - This pull request combines the reviewed Agent Chat stack for one squash merge. > - The benefit is persistent conversation with normal task governance and shared UI. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Task lifecycle, agent runtime tools, shared task UI, and browser/paid runner tests. **Problem or motivation** Users need one persistent conversation with each agent. A separate chat store or renderer would duplicate task behavior and bypass existing controls. **Proposed solution** Use a task-backed chat per company, user, and agent. Reuse the task composer and transcript. Clarify and plan in chat, then create assigned project tasks with the relevant plan. Keep Agent Chat behind its own disabled-by-default experimental setting. **Roadmap alignment** This implements the task-backed direction in [CEO Chat](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/master/ROADMAP.md#-ceo-chat). Related proposals: #2504 and #9693. Related request: #7981. The maintainer requested one squash merge of the complete stack. Consolidates the reviewed runtime [#13281](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13281), backend [#13282](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13282), and UI [#13283](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/13283) layers with this PR's E2E coverage. All four layers passed CI and received Greptile 5/5 before consolidation. This PR targets master and includes the complete feature. ## What Changed - Add personal canonical chat tasks with ordinary company visibility, immutable identity, idempotent first sends, and an idle waiting state. - Process `/new` in queue order. Preserve history, release a chat pause, and fence old provider context and delayed writes. - Keep chat lifecycle rules across recovery, finalization, assignment, task lists, and rollups. - Support research and plan revision in chat. Hand plans to ordinary assigned project tasks before execution starts. Reject new chat subtasks. - Add repository-aware project creation and discovery tools, including multiple repository IDs and GitHub URLs, authorization, idempotency, and durable project-created cards. - Reuse task UI components for chat, with starred/recent agent navigation and a separate `enableAgentChat` experimental flag. - Add deterministic browser tests and 24 paid chat cells across four Codex/Claude profiles, with validated reports and screenshots. - Integrate current master recovery, controller lease, queued-message, and task UI changes. Gate chat interruption and deferred promotion on ownership/feature policy. Guarantee lease renewal and active controls are stopped even if teardown fails. - Preserve master's migration 0273 and generate chat migration 0274 with idempotent replay for development databases. ## Verification - Prior exact heads of all four PRs passed Linux CI, including build, typecheck, general/serialized tests, and browser E2E. Each had Greptile 5/5 and no unresolved findings. - Integrated local verification passed: full repository typecheck and production build, Storybook build, token gates, 340 focused UI tests, all 20 deterministic chat browser tests, two migration replay tests, 88 focused chat/queue/native/controller tests, and provider/session regressions including real lease expiry. These include the three lifecycle regressions for the final admission/teardown fixes; server typecheck also passes. Current head `1268eda16cc2af892055917e7292f068820be135` has Greptile 5/5 with no unresolved findings and passing security scans. All final-head CI gates passed: build, full Runner verification, typecheck/release registry, canary, all general/serialized test shards, and all browser E2E shards ([CI run](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34696739927)). Local PostgreSQL startup contention required serialized retries; skipped fixtures do not count as passing coverage. - The earlier paid campaign passed all 24 chat cells and retained 32 screenshots: [report](https://d1p6rlowie26tp.cloudfront.net/runner-e2e/campaigns/gha-34648511170-1/index.html?report=agent-chat#suite-agent-chat). It tested `abacbdfd2f660709ec37312cdb758284c8399d04`; it is prior evidence, not a paid run of this integrated head. - Manual check: enable Agent Chat in Experimental settings, open an agent, clarify and revise a plan, then hand off to an assigned project task. Stop a reply, send `/new`, and verify fresh context with retained history. Disable the setting and verify agent shortcuts/new chat turns are blocked. ## Risks - Queue/session integration can affect retries and delayed writes. Tests cover ownership, cancellation, reset boundaries, idle recovery, and ordinary task behavior. - Migration 0274 adds conversation fields and constraints. Replay is idempotent and preserves existing development chat history. - This combines the previously reviewed stack at the maintainer's request. Agent Chat remains off by default and is separate from Conference Room. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 Astra (`gpt-6-astra`), with reasoning, code execution, browser tools, and parallel review. The exact context-window size is not exposed in this session. Codex and Claude also ran as test subjects in the linked paid campaign. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): improve mobile task spacing (#13304)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - The task detail view is the main place for task conversation. > - The mobile view used too much horizontal space for gutters and controls. > - The status control and identifier also reduced the title width. > - This pull request gives the title its own mobile row and reduces mobile padding. > - The benefit is a clearer task view with more space for useful content. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The mobile task detail header, conversation list, and message composer. **Current behavior** The title shares one row with status and identifier controls. The conversation and composer also use larger mobile gutters than needed. **Proposed behavior** The title uses the full mobile width. Status and metadata use the next row. The conversation and composer use smaller mobile gutters. **Reason and benefit** Long titles have more readable line lengths. The reduced padding gives task content more room on small screens. **Breaking changes** None. ## What Changed - Put the task title on a full-width mobile row. - Move the mobile status and metadata below the title. - Reduce the mobile conversation and composer padding. - Update the composer dock class test. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/TaskChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/components/task-chat/TaskChatComposer.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx --reporter=dot` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `git diff --check` ## Risks - Low risk. The layout changes apply only at the mobile breakpoint. - Desktop spacing stays unchanged. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. fix(ui): stabilize steered chat activity presentation (#13246)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The task chat shows live agent work and user steering. > - Steered messages showed a second timestamp that did not match normal chat messages. > - Folded live work also changed height as new commands arrived. > - Status carets and dots did not use the same vertical alignment. > - This pull request gives these states one stable presentation. > - The benefit is a task chat that is easier to read while an agent works. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Steered chat messages showed a separate queued or steered timestamp. Folded live activity could grow and shrink. Some carets and status dots did not align vertically. **Expected behavior** Steered messages use the normal timestamp. Folded live activity shows one latest line until the user opens it. Carets and dots use the same vertical center. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task chat with a running agent. 2. Steer the chat and inspect the message timestamp. 3. Keep live activity folded while new commands arrive. 4. Compare the caret with the status dot in the Reconnecting state. **Paperclip version or commit** Current `master` before this change. **Deployment mode** Local development mode. ## What Changed - Use the normal timestamp for steered chat messages. - Keep folded live activity to one line and replace it with the latest activity. - Keep the full activity timeline available after explicit expansion. - Vertically align carets and status dots, including Reconnecting. - Add focused component tests and Storybook review states. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/components/task-chat/TaskChatRunnerTurn.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/TaskChatStatusPill.test.tsx src/components/task-chat/task-chat-adapter.test.ts` (63 tests passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` ## Risks - Low risk. The change is limited to task chat presentation and its tests. - A live activity item can replace the folded text. The expanded timeline keeps the full history. > This fix does not overlap with planned work in `ROADMAP.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex. The runtime did not expose the exact model ID or context window. The agent used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: reliably interrupt and resume legacy message queues (#13275)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A task can collect more messages while its agent works. > - Legacy runners must stop the active process before they can receive those messages. > - The old Interrupt action cancelled the run but could leave the queue idle and hidden. > - Codex could also classify a cancelled run as successful or start a fresh process after cancellation. > - This pull request joins cancellation, preserves the provider session, and dispatches the current queue after cleanup. > - The benefit is reliable interruption with the saved message order, edits, and deletions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Interrupt could strand a legacy message queue. The UI could hide pending messages after the run stopped. A Codex signal exit could race the cancellation write. A stale session warning could also trigger a fresh process after an interrupted resume. **Expected behavior** Interrupt stops the active turn and sends the remaining messages once, in their saved order. Deleted messages stay deleted. An interrupted Codex turn keeps its session and does not restart itself. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Assign a task to a legacy Codex agent that runs a long command. 2. Queue three messages. Edit one, discard another, and move the last message first. 3. Click Interrupt in the queue. 4. Repeat the interruption while the resumed session runs another command. Related work: Refs #13160, which moves native queue steering into the wake-queue module. This change fixes legacy interruption and keeps native steering unchanged. ## What Changed - Add a revision-checked, company-scoped endpoint for legacy queue interruption. - Promote only the requested queue after the provider stops and releases its lease. Retry its persisted interrupt intent from the scheduler after a promotion error or server restart. - Keep pending legacy queues visible after a run stops. Use server state for the interrupt result. - Serialize owned process cancellation before classifying the adapter result. Preserve late session and log metadata. Acknowledge cancellation only when an actual process or process group was owned; scheduler placeholders retain their normal release policy. - Send Ctrl-C to legacy Codex. Prevent missing-session fallback once the session has started. - Add cancellation race, multi-actor queue order, durable retry, resume fallback, and stale request regression tests. Document the behavior. ## Verification - Real browser tests passed with legacy Codex CLI and ACP engines, using Codex 0.153.4 and gpt-5.6-sol. - All three automated ACP browser scenarios passed locally: immediate Interrupt delivery, no replay of an unfinished write, and pause requiring Resume. Updated the old test expectation that required a separate “go” after Interrupt. - Browser tests covered queued edits, deletion, reordering, deleting the final message, and repeated interruption. - Two consecutive CLI interrupts kept one provider session. Both stopped processes exited. The final message arrived once. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - All 346 post-review scheduling, recovery, queue-route, archived-company, worktree-suppression, and stale-queue regression tests passed. - All 318 process-recovery and durable-chat tests passed after the final cancellation guard. - Codex adapter, queue UI, issue-page, and OpenAPI contract tests passed. - `pnpm build` passed. - Full local suite coverage completed with `PAPERCLIP_IN_WORKTREE=false`, using the stable runner and its CI shards: 618 general server suites, all 145 serialized server suites, and all workspace groups. Every failing suite passed a targeted rerun after the fixes, rebuilding the native test fixture, correcting macOS temporary-path setup, or retrying setup/timing failures. Existing skips remain. - The original monolithic run reported failures before the final fixes; its failed suites were rerun rather than rerunning all 618 suites again. The final process-recovery/durable-chat regression run passed all 318 tests. - All CI checks passed for `e30eaf787f23a5511a3cb3cdb5abbccab9ed001d`: [run 34654820774, attempt 2](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/34654820774/attempts/2), including typecheck, build, all test shards, E2E, and canary. The signoff and Cursor sandbox tests each hit a timeout in the initial attempt; both suites passed locally, and both failed shards passed their single CI rerun. All three corrected ACP browser scenarios passed in CI. - Greptile reviewed `e30eaf787f23a5511a3cb3cdb5abbccab9ed001d`: 5/5, no open review threads. ## Risks Cancellation order affects local adapters. The tests cover signal exits, graceful exits, adapter exceptions, termination errors, and cancellation write errors. Embedded adapters keep their cancellation controls. Ordinary run cancellation and task pause keep their distinct queue policies. feat(ui): summarize completed runner activity groups (#13274)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task chat shows tool activity between agent updates. > - Finished groups currently keep the last raw command on screen. > - Failure totals add visual weight to normal retries. > - This pull request summarizes finished groups with short action phrases. > - Users can expand each group to inspect the original activity and output. > - The benefit is a quieter history that still explains the work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Runner activity in live task chat and saved history. **Current behavior** A finished group shows its last command or tool target. A separate failure count remains visible after retries. **Proposed behavior** Show short phrases such as “Ran commands” or “Read files, ran commands” when a commentary group finishes. Remove failure counts in both active and finished groups. Keep original output in expandable history. **Reason and benefit** The activity summary describes the work without filling the conversation with shell arguments or treating each retry as an alarm. Unsuccessful reads and edits use “Checked files” and “Worked on files” to avoid claiming success. **Additional context** Refs: #13255. This builds on the merged rolling activity groups. Related open PR #13246 covers steering and status presentation; this change concerns completed summaries and failure counts. The design was reviewed in desktop and mobile Storybook previews. ## What Changed - Add a deterministic summary shared by builtin and provider-native activity. - Combine repeated categories and retries, preserve category order, and bound long summaries. - Summarize each inactive commentary group while the next group can still be running. - Keep expansion, individual output disclosures, and active rolling rows. - Use the production component in eight review stories, including animated desktop and mobile transitions. - Cover retries, unsuccessful edits, unknown tools, reasoning-only groups, saved history, and resuming work. ## Verification - Focused summary, group, and runner-turn tests pass: 62 tests. - Token gates pass. - The approved Storybook previews passed browser checks for desktop, mobile, keyboard expansion, live-to-completed transitions, and original retry output. - `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and the production Storybook build pass. - The complete UI suite passes: 582 files and 6,005 tests. The full repository test run is in progress after repairing missing symlinks in the local PostgreSQL dependency. A native workspace suite that hit the setup failure now passes all six tests. - Greptile is 5/5 on the current commit, with no review threads. Security checks pass. All individual CI jobs pass except server shard 4/5, where one plugin-worker output timing assertion failed. The complete plugin-worker suite passes locally (83 tests). The workflow finished. One retry of the failed shard and aggregate check was dispatched and is queued. Squash auto-merge is enabled and remains gated on required checks. - Rechecked the production stories in the browser: mobile history stays on one line, and expansion survives completion while the next group remains active. - Review in Storybook under Tasks → Completed activity preview. Use Next to finish one group while the next group remains active. Open a completed summary to inspect its history. ## Risks - Summaries classify observed activity; “Ran commands” does not mean exit code zero. - Unknown tools use a generic description. Full names and outputs remain in history. - No API, database, or runner protocol contracts change. > Reviewed ROADMAP.md. This is a focused improvement to the existing task-chat presentation. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: resume saved user messages after execution recovery (#13270)
Preserve verified native process-stop evidence and retry saved user messages through normal continuation admission after recovery cleanup. Show the current wait reason and serialize delivery so a saved message starts one fresh turn. Validated with 410 focused tests, typecheck, build, token gates, all PR CI checks, and Greptile 5/5. feat(connections): add AgentMail inboxes and email tasks (#13256)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connections give agents controlled access to external services. > - Experimental channels already map conversations to tasks and durable work queues. > - Email needs inbox ownership, recipient envelopes, delivery records, and explicit sends. > - This pull request adds AgentMail to that infrastructure and keeps the provider key in the server vault. > - Agents can receive and send email from local or sandbox execution while the board follows each conversation in its task. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Agents need dedicated email addresses. Incoming email should become assigned work. Internal task comments and progress must never become outgoing email by accident. **Proposed solution** Add experimental AgentMail connections, an inbox assignment wizard, durable email intake and publication, task email cards, and authenticated API, CLI, and native runtime actions. Agents use Paperclip credentials to request sends. Paperclip owns the provider key and enforces access and task authority. **Alternatives considered** A general mailbox MCP connector does not provide durable task binding or publication boundaries. A separate mailbox application duplicates task collaboration. The board instead directs the agent through the normal task conversation. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing experimental connections and task infrastructure. Product scope and interaction design were reviewed with the maintainer. Related connection authority work: #11831 and #11818. The duplicate search found no competing task-based AgentMail integration. ## What Changed - Add AgentMail catalog data, shared contracts, company-scoped email records, and an additive migration. - Add vaulted setup, inbox assignment, access grants, trust guidance, and provider-side allowlist guidance. - Support WebSocket and signed-webhook intake through a shared durable pipeline, deduplication, catch-up, and task wakeups. - Queue explicit new conversations and replies with immutable send intents, idempotency, delivery state, and uncertain-send resolution. - Show inbound and outbound email cards in normal task conversations. Keep internal messages internal. - Add task-scoped CLI actions and the sandbox callback routes required for Daytona execution. - Provide a dedicated AgentMail skill automatically only to agents with active authorized inbox assignments. Keep email instructions out of the universal Paperclip skill. - Advertise connector-owned `agentmail_inboxes`, `agentmail_read_thread`, `agentmail_send`, and `agentmail_delivery` tools only in eligible native sessions. Recheck live authority on execution. - Isolate Codex CLI connector skills by agent and skill revision. Deliver the assigned skill in the run prompt for adapters that use shared skill directories, including resumed turns. Keep automatic skills out of manual persistent sync. Show them as read-only and document the pattern in the connector playbook. - Fix AgentMail health checks that entered local-stdio validation and optional missing Codex credential cleanup in sandboxes. - Add API, pipeline, authorization, sandbox, browser, and Storybook coverage. ## Verification - Live AgentMail testing covered WebSocket intake, signed webhooks, restart catch-up, and a full receive → task → Daytona Codex CLI → explicit reply → Delivered round trip. The reply was verified in the other inbox. The normal task composer also initiated an outgoing email child task. - The connector-skill change was verified in the browser: AgentMail appears once as an automatic, read-only skill with its assigned address. Disabling experimental chat connections removes it; re-enabling restores it. A regression test covers assignment data arriving after library data. - Connector regression coverage passed 178 runtime utility, email integration, skill-route, and heartbeat tests. All 17 Codex execution tests passed, including per-agent skill isolation, model identity, revision changes, removal, and prompt delivery without shared skill files. - After rebasing onto master, all 44 focused email, heartbeat, and native-authority tests passed. All 313 native-session executor tests passed. The UI regression suite passed all 3 tests. These test sets overlap earlier focused runs. - Full workspace typecheck and build passed after the rebase. Token gates passed. Earlier focused Playwright task/setup coverage and the Storybook build also passed. - Native connector tool execution uses deterministic integration tests. Live Daytona qualification used the Codex CLI adapter; the new shared-home prompt fallback has deterministic coverage. - The full repository suite is run by CI. The earlier unsharded local full-suite attempt was stopped after the equivalent CI suites passed and is not reported as a completed local run. Greptile reviewed `7e57dc267a8446d3c906e3cc5b8abc94fb8860eb` at 5/5 with no unresolved threads. All server, workspace, serialized server, and browser suites passed in CI. The build job hit a five-second timeout in a runner transport test; both variants and the full 80-test file passed locally with unchanged timeouts. The build passed on retry on the same commit without code or timeout changes. All required CI gates, including the final `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` summaries, are green on `7e57dc267a8446d3c906e3cc5b8abc94fb8860eb`. ## Risks - Email from external senders can start normal agent work. Setup recommends a low-trust agent and AgentMail sender controls. Sender addresses never grant board membership. - Provider timeouts can leave uncertain sends. Retries retain their idempotency key; expired windows require reconciliation or operator resolution. - Connector skills and native tools are assignment-dependent and require current access. Revocation denies retained calls; assignment changes select a new runtime context. - Activation remains behind the experimental-channel setting. The native runner path has deterministic coverage; live Daytona qualification used the Codex CLI adapter. - Schema changes are additive. Inbox ownership is unique across companies. Disconnect preserves provider inboxes and task history. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex). Used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context-window size were not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): show one rolling runner activity per commentary group (#13255)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task chat shows commentary and runner activity as work proceeds. > - The expanded activity list uses multiple text lines and an indented rail. > - The folded view can repeat reasoning and the current tool in separate places. > - This pull request shows one rolling activity between commentary messages. > - Users can open a group to follow its full history and inspect each item. > - The benefit is a compact feed with aligned icons and stable row height. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The runner activity groups in task chat, during live work and in saved history. **Current behavior** Activity is spread across a group summary, a reasoning ticker, and a current-tool row. Expanded rows have different alignment and can span several lines. **Proposed behavior** Keep one latest activity per commentary group. Roll new activities upward. Keep each expanded history row on one line. Use neutral failure text without an X icon. Keep the full details available by opening an individual row. **Additional context** Refs: #13246. That open PR covers related folded activity, steering timestamps, and status alignment. This change implements the separately reviewed activity-group design, including animated replacement, single-line expanded history, and neutral failures. It does not change steering timestamps or status pills. ## What Changed - Add a shared runner activity group with persistent expansion and reduced-motion support. - Use the group in the production runner turn and remove duplicate narration and current-tool rows. - Preserve commentary, plan cards, request receipts, and final-response placement. - Keep tool output, reasoning, research sources, file previews, and failure details accessible. - Render the production turn in desktop and mobile animated Storybook fixtures. - Add tests for animation identity, failure visibility, expansion persistence, and timeline order. - Validate resource link schemes and omit disclosure controls for items with no details. ## Verification - Focused activity, runner turn, protocol detail, and task-thread tests pass: 161 tests. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - Browser checks confirm a 32-pixel compact row, centered icons, and one-line expanded rows. - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` pass. The final UI build also passes. - Two real native Codex runs completed in an isolated local instance. Each run created the expected file, performed separate delayed tool calls, reported a deliberate missing-file failure, recovered, and finished the task. - Browser verification confirmed that the open three-row activity group remained expanded after the second run moved into saved history. Saved error output remained accessible without red styling or an X. - The complete UI suite passes: 581 files and 5,979 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build-storybook` passes for the final production fixtures. - Greptile rates the latest commit 5/5, with zero new comments and no unresolved review threads. The security scan passes. - All repository test shards pass in CI. The duplicate local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after CI completed the full test coverage. The CI build failed twice because the worker ran out of disk space compiling the Rust runner tests (`No space left on device`, error 28). The build and its aggregate verify gate remain blocked by CI capacity. GitHub squash auto-merge is enabled and will wait for required checks to pass. ## Risks - This changes presentation and disclosure behavior. Users open a group to see earlier activity. - Animation uses stable item IDs. A provider that replaces IDs can trigger another transition. - No API, database, or runner protocol contracts change. > Reviewed `ROADMAP.md`. This improves an existing task-chat surface. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, tool use, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model version or context-window size.

Fix workspace-ready notice rendering (#12716)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip helps people manage AI agents and their work. > - The task thread shows user, agent, and control-plane messages. > - Workspace-ready comments keep agent attribution for audit and authorization. > - These comments also have an explicit system-notice presentation. > - The client used attribution before the presentation contract. > - As a result, workspace-ready comments appeared as agent bubbles. > - This pull request gives the system-notice presentation priority. > - The benefit is a compact workspace notice with expandable details. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The task thread showed a workspace-ready control-plane comment as a normal agent message. The comment kept agent attribution for audit and authorization, so the client did not use its system-notice presentation. **Expected behavior** The task thread must show a comment with the `system_notice` presentation as a compact system notice. The user must be able to expand the notice to inspect its details. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Open a task with a workspace that becomes ready. 2. Wait for the control plane to add the workspace-ready comment. 3. Observe that the task thread shows the comment as an agent bubble instead of a system notice. **Paperclip version or commit** `master` at `8eaa5caa0`. **Deployment mode** Local dev (`pnpm dev`). **Agent adapter(s) involved** Not adapter-specific. This is a core UI bug. ## What Changed - Give the `system_notice` presentation priority when the task-chat adapter selects the message kind. - Pass the notice presentation data to the task-chat model. - Improve the compact and expanded workspace notice details. - Add component tests, adapter tests, and Storybook cases for workspace notices. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/task-chat/task-chat-adapter.test.ts ui/src/components/task-chat/TaskChatSystemNotice.test.tsx` passes 15 tests. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passes. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. - `pnpm build` passes. - `pnpm test:run` passes 5,670 tests and reports four pre-existing workspace-runtime failures. The same four failures reproduce when the two unrelated server test files run alone. They do not use the changed task-chat files. ## Risks - Risk is low. Normal agent messages still use the agent presentation. - A comment with an explicit system-notice presentation now uses the compact notice renderer. - Regression tests cover both paths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5 (`gpt-5`) through Codex. The agent used reasoning, repository tools, and code execution. The runtime did not expose the context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(ui): advance single-choice questions on selection (#13234)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents ask structured questions in task threads and the composer. > - The shared form shows one question at a time. > - A single choice already completes an answer, but the form requires another click on Next. > - This pull request moves to the next question when the user selects one option. > - Multi-select and custom answers keep their Next step. The last page keeps explicit submission. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The paged question form in the task composer and task interaction cards. **Subsystem affected** ui/ — React board UI. **Current behavior** The user clicks a single choice, then clicks Next to reach the next question. **Proposed behavior** A single choice shows its checked state for 160 ms, then opens the next question with an 80 ms fade. Reduced-motion mode skips the animation. Multi-select stays on the current page until Next. Other stays open for typing. The last question waits for Submit answers. **Reason and benefit** Remove an extra click from each single-choice question while preserving explicit submission. **Breaking changes** Single-choice selection now changes the page. Answer payloads and APIs do not change. The user can return to earlier answers with the previous arrow. **Additional context** Related work: #12640 introduced the task workspace. No duplicate auto-advance change was found. ## What Changed - Confirm a single-choice answer with a brief radio animation and row highlight, then fade into the next page and focus the new question. - Use motion tokens for the 160 ms confirmation and 80 ms page fade. Honor reduced motion and cancel pending advances when the user changes direction or closes the form. - Lightly highlight every selected row with a foreground tint that remains visible against the composer in both themes, for single-select and multi-select answers. - Preserve multi-select, custom answers, back navigation, and final submission. - Ignore repeated number-key events and selection during an upload or submission. - Update composer and card tests. Add interactive and verified composer stories to the existing interaction Storybook group. - Document the Storybook scenario in the developer guide. ## Verification - Focused composer, card, and motion-catalog tests: 121 passed, including animation timing and cancellation. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed. - `pnpm build-storybook`: passed. Browser interaction story: passed with the selection animation enabled. - Selected-row refinement: 121 focused tests, token gates, and Storybook build passed. Browser inspection confirmed row highlighting for single-select and multiple selected checkboxes, plus light-theme contrast. - Manual browser check: select SQLite, select two features, click Next, select Now, then submit. The summary contains every answer. - `pnpm -r typecheck`: passed. - `pnpm build`: passed. - All 31 remote checks passed on the latest commit (`04a3f3983`), including typecheck, general and serialized tests, production build/native-runner verification, canary validation, and browser tests. Two optional Storybook deployment/visual jobs were skipped. Greptile reviewed the same commit at 5/5 with no actionable findings. The selected-row highlight refinement is included in that verification. - Animation refinement: UI typecheck, UI build, token gates, and 121 focused tests passed. - The broader UI run had 5,940 passing tests and three failures in unchanged Inbox/IssuesList tests. Both affected suites passed in isolation (73/73), including all three previously failing cases. - The broad local `pnpm test:run` was stopped after reproducing the native-runner failure below and after the full remote suite passed. It is not a clean local full-suite result. - Local runner limitation: `server/src/services/native-runtime/native-session-resume.test.ts` has one reproducible failure in unchanged code. The damaged-epoch recovery test expects `run.attach requires a settled Codex provider session`; the runner instead reports `semantic tool input content digest does not match its transmitted input` at line 1019. After building the missing fake provider with `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/paperclip-runner build:rust`, the isolated suite has 36 passing tests and this one failure. No server or runner files changed in this PR. ## Risks - Selecting a single choice changes the visible question after a brief checked-state confirmation. Back navigation preserves the choice so it can be edited. - The final page still requires Submit answers. Selecting Other still requires text and explicit progress. - No database, server, API, or dependency changes. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 in Codex, with reasoning, code editing, terminal tools, and browser verification. Exact serving revision and context window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): keep active runner status current and say Working (#13238)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - The task transcript shows a running agent's progress.
> - The active-run query stops polling when the live-run list has data.
> - The transcript still preferred that initial snapshot, so an old
execution-confirmation state could remain after work resumed.
> - This pull request uses the refreshed snapshot for the same run and
keeps active status text at Working.
> - Operators can see current activity without connection-state jargon.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**What happened?**
The task transcript said Reconnecting while the runner continued sending
messages and calling tools. The stale projection could also hide the
Thinking tail or stop the status spinner and timer.
**Expected behavior**
The selected run uses its current live snapshot. Active transcripts say
Working and show current activity. Completed and failed runs say Worked
and Stopped.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open a running task before its execution confirmation arrives.
2. Let the active-run query stop polling when the live-run list returns
the run.
3. Let the list refresh to working while the cached active-run snapshot
still says reconnecting.
4. Inspect the transcript status and activity tail.

fix(tasks): require resume before sending to paused tasks (#13232)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Task execution controls let board users pause a task or its subtree. > - The composer still accepted messages while a pause hold was active. > - A paused task must require an explicit resume before the user can send another message. > - This pull request replaces the composer with an amber pause card and checks board comment writes on the server. > - The user keeps their draft and resumes through the existing task controls. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13104. Refs #13119. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The task composer and existing task/subtree pause controls. **Current behavior** A paused task can still receive a board message. The pause notice sits outside the composer, which leaves the send action available. **Proposed behavior** Show an amber takeover in both task chat and the classic composer. Preserve the draft. Require the user to resume the task or the ancestor subtree before sending. Reject board comment writes through either supported write route while the pause hold is active. **Breaking changes** Board comment writes to a paused task now return HTTP 409. Agent run reports remain supported during a pause. There is no schema migration. ## What Changed - Add a shared amber composer takeover with task, subtree, saved draft, pending, and error states. - Use effective ancestor pause state in both composer interfaces. Refresh it after pause events, task updates, and rejected sends. - Preserve draft text and attachments. Hide editor, send, queued edit, and pending question controls while paused. - Check active pause holds before board comment writes can mutate tasks, store comments, or wake agents. - Connect the approved Storybook examples to the production component and update the design and behavior docs. - Add browser coverage for both composers, draft persistence, resume, inherited holds, and rejected writes. Update ACP continuation coverage for the explicit resume requirement. ## Verification - Passed: `pnpm -r typecheck`. - Passed: `pnpm build`. - Passed: `pnpm build-storybook`. - Passed: `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check`. - Passed: focused UI tests (398 tests) and server route tests (127 tests). - Passed: `pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts tests/e2e/paused-composer.spec.ts tests/e2e/acp-stop-continuation.spec.ts` (5 tests). - Passed: manual browser walkthrough in a disposable local instance. Pause with a draft, refresh while paused, resume, send, and reopen. The draft returned, and one message persisted. The amber card and resume dialog were readable with no clipping. - Full local `pnpm test:run` did not pass: the general-server stage recorded 9,072 passing tests, 6 database setup failures from macOS shared-memory exhaustion, and 4 failed tests. This stopped the script before its later groups. Latest-head CI runs those groups independently. - Local follow-up: the Git file-resource load test passed on rerun (4 tests); native finalization migration passed after clearing the abandoned browser-test database allocation. Building the native debug fixtures fixed the missing fake provider. The remaining native-session recovery assertion also reproduces on untouched base commit `87b3e5fc6` (36 pass, 1 fail on both base and PR). It expects a settled-session error but receives a semantic-input-digest error. - The final UI build, UI typecheck, token gates, both thread suites (182 tests), and all five browser tests passed after the queued-action review fix. All 31 latest-head CI checks passed, including all server, workspace, browser, build, release, and security gates. Two optional Storybook jobs were skipped by workflow policy. Greptile reviewed `32d8fb5f5` at 5/5 with no open findings. - Review the Paused Composer and Tasks / Execution Controls stories. Pause a task with a draft, verify the amber card, resume, and verify the draft can be sent once. ## Risks - Clients that used board comments to continue paused work must resume first. The response is an explicit HTTP 409. - Pause state can change while a page is open. Live updates refresh the composer, and the server rejects stale sends before their side effects. - Resume keeps the existing dialog and optional agent wake behavior. Agent reports from interrupted runs remain allowed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, assisted with design, implementation, code execution, and browser verification. The exact runtime model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. The agent used reasoning and tool calls. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the relevant tests locally and they pass; the full local-suite limits are documented above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
