fix(ui): complete read recovery and enforce query error rendering (#18822)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip lets people manage agent work through the board. > - The board reads task, agent, settings, plugin, and run data from the server. > - A deploy can interrupt those reads after content is already visible. > - Local error branches can replace that content with an error or show raw codes. > - This pull request moves the remaining reads to the shared recovery behavior. > - The query-error guard prevents new local error patterns from returning. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Loaded lists, settings, task panels, and manual reads could clear their content or show errors during a server restart. Some reads also disabled the shared retry policy. **Expected behavior** Keep loaded content during a temporary failure. Show the shared connection banner. Retry reads after recovery. Replace content after a real access denial or missing resource, with readable copy. **Steps to reproduce** Open a task, settings page, or run log. Return 503 with `tenant_app_unavailable` from the API. Restore the API and check that content refreshes. Repeat with 403 and 404 to check the failure state. Related merged work: Refs #15754, Refs #15772, Refs #17960. This change covers remaining reads and enforcement. Browser persistence and the outage browser suite follow separately. ## What Changed - Repair an existing PostgreSQL deadline fixture at UTC boundaries. A daily cap defers a heartbeat until both its original interval and the next UTC day allow it. Keep the counted run in its seeded day and cover noon, just before midnight and the first second after midnight with explicit clocks and real PostgreSQL. Production scheduling is unchanged. - Integrate the saved list, settings, shell, task, and manual-read recovery changes against current master. Preserve the current task, Inbox, and run-log structure. - Add `useResilientFetch` for component-local reads. Preserve loaded data, cancel stale requests, and retry through the shared connectivity policy. Keep browser and pairing capabilities in memory. - Retain run log chunks across stream changes and catch up after recovery without duplicate chunks or stalled requests. - Keep genuine authorization and missing-resource failures visible. Translate known single-word codes such as `forbidden`. Show known skills and disconnected-app failures before sibling loading states. Keep Retry bound to its failed request. - Make the query-error guard enforce by default and run it in the CI policy job. Document the narrow exceptions and the read recovery contract. - Invalidate pending OAuth discovery when the operator leaves setup or its context changes. Keep reserved-popup cleanup bound to the current attempt. ## Verification - Current read head `09d1db29dea` is merge-ready: all 59 check runs are completed (54 successful, three skipped, two neutral), the legacy Snyk status is successful, and both required `ci / verify` and `ci / e2e` gates pass. Greptile Apex reviewed this exact head at 5/5 with no unresolved threads; the branch has no merge conflicts. The current CI run is `41748339602`. - Current read head `09d1db29dea` includes master `683fa4725e9`. The latest change touches only the existing server deadline test fixture. Application source remains the previously verified `86376fa751e` revision: all 60 affected skills/disconnected-app tests and both application UI typechecks passed, along with token gates and the enforcing query-error guard. Those UI suites were not repeated for this test-only repair. - The fixture repair passes all seven deadline integration cases and the complete server typecheck, including the server test layer. The old assertion deterministically fails at 23:59:06.888 UTC; its one-second-old run also fails the first-second-of-day probe. The corrected fixture passes noon and both midnight probes. The permanent three-case coverage uses seeded 2099 clocks. - Twelve new regressions fail against the previous implementation. Both skills variants and disconnected-app pages show either request's 403 or 429 while the sibling pauses or remains fetching. Permission failures stay visible. Retry stays usable for its failed request and recovers independently. An initial test-fixture query-key typo was corrected before the passing run. The finding is replied to and resolved. Greptile reviewed prior application revision `86376fa751e` at 5/5 with no new actionable findings or unresolved threads. The current test-only head has now received its own Apex 5/5 review with no unresolved threads, and its CI is successful as recorded above. - The preceding OAuth fix passed all 237 setup tests on both application branches. Its ten regressions prove that Back, Cancel, unmount, or context changes retire initial discovery without creating a connection, caching old identities, navigating an abandoned popup, or closing a newer attempt. - Earlier master integration `e992f770339` passed all 309 tests across eight affected Slack, recovery, retry, submission and task files, plus UI typecheck, token gates, enforcing query-error scan and seven guard tests. The integration preserves Slack workspace reconnect and shared recovery, readable execution errors, source-inspection company scoping, and current submission behavior. Newly inherited retained-file recovery controls keep cached data through transient failures and hide it after definitive denial. - The preceding cache head `97c0bc3966f` passed 1,038 focused cache/write/editor/account/task/API tests. All 22 built-UI outage/write/loading cases passed in 4.7 minutes on exact browser head `b7deaaee5da`, with strict checking of all three specs. The latest skills/app rendering fix is covered by its affected component suites; those broader cases were not repeated for this separate read path. - Historical broader UI, CLI and build results and unresolved aggregate server/DB/adapter failures remain in the PR discussion. Interrupted CI runs were audited and recorded separately; they are not counted as passes. Controlled local outages do not prove hosted authentication or a real Cloud restart/deploy. Real hosted acceptance remains required after merge and deployment. Commands for the latest fix: ```sh pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run src/pages/CompanySkills.test.tsx src/pages/apps/AppNotConnected.test.tsx pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck pnpm check:token-gates node scripts/check-query-error-rendering.mjs --enforce --summary ``` ## Risks This migration touches many read surfaces. The main risks are initial loading, request cancellation, retained authorization state, and run-log paging. The tests cover those states. There are no server, schema, dependency, or API contract changes. The follow-up browser suite and hosted deploy acceptance are required before release acceptance. Recovered commits retain their original authors. If squash-merging, preserve `Co-Authored-By: Bender (Fable) <bender@agents.paperclip.ing>` and the Paperclip trailer. ## Model Used OpenAI `gpt-6.1-sol` through Codex, with xhigh reasoning effort, tool use, and code execution. Hide host-path and execution-engine surfaces in managed-sandbox-only mode (#12293)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - An instance can turn on the `enableManagedSandboxOnly` feature, which hides the local environment and runs every agent in the platform-managed environment > - That feature already gated the environment pickers, the onboarding wizard, and the server-side run selection, but many other screens still showed absolute paths on the execution host and still let the user pick an execution engine > - On such an instance those controls name a filesystem the user cannot reach; a path written there is stored and then ignored, which reads as a broken control > - This pull request hides the remaining host-path and execution-engine surfaces behind the same feature, adds a server rule that refuses a project-workspace path write while the feature is on, and closes a related route gap in the isolated-workspace pages > - The benefit is that a managed instance shows no host path and no folder picker anywhere, and a write that carries a path now fails with a clear message instead of being silently discarded ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. The description below follows `.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/enhancement.yml`. **What existing behavior does this improve?** The `enableManagedSandboxOnly` instance feature, and the UI surfaces that show a host filesystem path: project properties, the new-project dialog, the project workspace and execution workspace detail pages, the workspace and task cards, plugin local folders, and the agent configuration form with its per-adapter fields. It also improves route gating for `enableIsolatedWorkspaces`. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (`ui/` and `server/`). **Current behavior** When `enableManagedSandboxOnly` is on, the local environment disappears from the environment pickers and the server refuses to run an agent on the local host. Everything else stays visible. A user still sees: - the project "Local folder" row, its absolute path, and the Set/Change/Clear buttons - the "Local folder" field and its "Choose" folder picker in the new-project dialog - the "Local path" field and fact row on a project workspace - the "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands" groups on an execution workspace - the working directory on workspace cards, task properties, and runtime service rows - the plugin "Local folders" section - "Working directory (deprecated)", "Command", "Execution engine", "ACP server command", "ACP state directory", and "Agent instructions file" in the agent configuration form A path typed into any of these names a filesystem no agent on the instance uses. The project workspace API also accepts a `cwd` write and stores it. Separately, `/workspaces`, `/execution-workspaces/*`, and `/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId` render for anyone who types or bookmarks the URL, even with `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off. Only the sidebar entry reads that flag. **Proposed behavior** With `enableManagedSandboxOnly` on, none of those surfaces render. A project whose codebase came from a managed checkout keeps its one-line "Paperclip-managed folder." label and shows no path. The non-path controls stay: repo URL, branch, service URL, port, command output, ACP session mode, ACP non-interactive permissions, Codex fast mode, and the sandbox toggles. The project-workspace create and patch routes, and the nested workspace on project create, answer `422` with "This instance runs agents only in the platform-managed environment; local folders are not configurable." when the payload carries a non-null `cwd`. A `cwd: null` write still passes, so an instance that just turned the feature on can clear a stale path. With `enableIsolatedWorkspaces` off, the three workspace route groups redirect to the dashboard. **Reason and benefit** A control that cannot do anything is worse than a missing control: the user fills it in, saves, and gets no error and no effect. The server rule turns that silent no-op into a clear refusal. The route gate stops a feature that an instance has turned off from staying reachable by URL, which is the same standard the Cases, Pipelines, and hidden-settings pages already meet. **Breaking changes** None for a default instance: both flags are off by default for self-hosted and managed instances, so nothing changes unless an operator turns them on. Stored `adapterConfig` values are never cleared, so turning the feature off restores every previous value. ## What Changed - Add `ui/src/hooks/useManagedSandboxOnly.ts`, modelled on `useAppsEnabled`, for components that do not already read the experimental settings. It exposes `hideHostPaths`, which fails closed while the settings query is in flight, so a cold cache never flashes a host path before the policy resolves. Components that keep their own settings read compute the same gate from `isFetched`. - Add `managedSandboxOnly` to `AdapterConfigFieldsProps` and populate it where `AgentConfigForm` builds the adapter field props. Resolve the effective instructions-file gate once as `hideInstructionsFile || hideHostPaths`, so every adapter hides that path field with no per-adapter edit. - Hide under the flag: the project "Local folder" block and its absolute-path edit panel (a managed checkout keeps its label, without the path); the new-project "Local folder" field; the project-workspace "Local path" field and fact row; the execution-workspace "Paths" and "Lifecycle commands" groups; the working directory on the workspace summary card, the task workspace card, the task properties "Folder" row, and the runtime service rows; the plugin "Local folders" section; "Working directory (deprecated)" and "Command" in the agent form; and the per-adapter "Execution engine", "ACP server command", and "ACP state directory" for `claude_local`, `codex_local`, and `gemini_local`. - Drop two working-directory fallbacks that had no gate to read: the close-workspace dialog now falls back to "No additional details", and the reuse-existing workspace label and picker subtitle fall back to a neutral phrase. - Refuse a non-null `cwd` with `422` on `POST /projects/:id/workspaces`, `PATCH /projects/:id/workspaces/:workspaceId`, and the nested workspace on `POST /companies/:companyId/projects`, following the `assertNoAgentHostWorkspaceCommandMutation` precedent on those routes. - Add `IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate` and wrap the `/workspaces`, `/execution-workspaces/*`, and `/projects/:projectId/workspaces/:workspaceId` routes with it. - Leave the SSH "Remote workspace path" and the workspace file browser alone, with a comment explaining why. ## Verification Automated: - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui exec vitest run` — 479 of 480 files pass (4455 of 4456 tests). The one failure is `OnboardingWizard.test.tsx > renders instead of throwing when the browser denies storage access`, which also fails on `origin/master` and is unrelated to this change. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run project workspace instance-settings` — 45 of 50 files pass. Four files fail on macOS for reasons unrelated to this change: `workspace-instance-cleanup`, `workspace-runtime`, `execution-workspace-runtime-control-conflict`, and `workspace-runtime-exposure` compare `/var/...` against the resolved `/private/var/...` or bind real ports. The same files fail on a clean `master` checkout on the same machine. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `tsc --noEmit` in `server/` (after `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk ensure-build-deps`). The package `typecheck` script also builds the Rust runner, which needs `cargo`; it is not installed on the machine that ran this. New and extended tests: - `ui/src/adapters/managed-sandbox-only-config-fields.test.tsx` — the three adapters drop the execution engine, the ACP paths, the instructions-file path, and every "Choose" button when the flag is on, and keep the non-path controls. - `ui/src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx` — flag-on and flag-off renders for the working directory, the command, the engine, the ACP paths, and the resolved adapter field props. - `ui/src/components/ProjectProperties.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/NewProjectDialog.managed-sandbox.test.tsx`, `ui/src/pages/ProjectWorkspaceDetail.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/ProjectWorkspaceSummaryCard.test.tsx`, `ui/src/components/WorkspaceRuntimeControls.test.tsx`. - `ui/src/components/IsolatedWorkspacesRouteGate.test.tsx` — redirect when off, render when on, and render nothing while the flag query is in flight. - "Still loading" cases for the project properties, the new-project dialog, the workspace summary card, the runtime service rows, and the agent configuration form, each asserting that no host path renders before the policy resolves. - `server/src/__tests__/project-workspace-managed-sandbox-routes.test.ts` — the `422` on all three write paths, the `cwd: null` pass-through, and the flag-off pass-through. Manual check to reproduce: turn on Managed Environment Only in instance experimental settings, then open a project, the new-project dialog, an agent's configuration, and a workspace page. No path, folder icon, or "Choose" button appears. Turn the setting off and each control returns with its stored value. No documentation change was needed. The operator-facing text for both settings lives in the feature catalog entry, which already states the contract this pull request now enforces across the UI. ## Risks - Low. Both flags default to off, so a default instance is unchanged. - The hidden fields are presentation only. No stored `adapterConfig` value is cleared, because an import carries adapter configuration written on another instance and clearing it would break that flow. Turning the setting off shows every previous value again. - The `422` is the one behavior change for an API caller, and only while the setting is on. `cwd: null` still passes so a stale path can be cleared. - The route gate renders nothing until the flag query settles, so an instance with isolated workspaces on never flashes a redirect. An instance with the feature off now redirects a bookmarked workspace URL to the dashboard. - Every host-path guard fails closed while the settings query is in flight, so a default instance shows those controls a moment later than before on a cold load. That is the safe direction: the alternative flashes a path a managed instance must never show. - Two path surfaces stay on purpose, each with a comment: the SSH "Remote workspace path" is a path on the user's own remote host, and the workspace file browser shows workspace-relative paths. The instance Adapters page also keeps its "Local path" install option, since that page is an instance-admin surface the hosting operator can already hide through the hidden-settings mechanism. ## Model Used Claude (Anthropic), Claude Opus, 1M context window, extended thinking, agentic tool use through Claude Code. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

fix(ui): correct Last checked timestamp in workspace close dialog (#2179)
## Problem
In the ExecutionWorkspaceCloseDialog, the "Last checked" timestamp was
using \`new Date()\` which show the current render time, not when the
readiness check API call actually completed.
\`\`\`tsx
Last checked {formatDateTime(new Date())} // always NOW
\`\`\`
This mean every time React re-render the component (which happen
frequently), the timestamp update to the current moment. User see "Last
checked 2:45:30 PM" and think the check just ran, but actually it might
have ran 30 seconds ago. The timestamp is lying.
## What I changed
Changed from \`new Date()\` to \`new
Date(readinessQuery.dataUpdatedAt)\` which is the actual timestamp from
React Query tracking when the API response was last received.
\`\`\`tsx
Last checked {formatDateTime(new Date(readinessQuery.dataUpdatedAt))} //
actual check time
\`\`\`
Now the timestamp accurately show when the close readiness check was
performed. It stay stable between re-renders until the query actually
refetch.
## How to test
1. Open an execution workspace > click Close button to open the dialog
2. The "Last checked" timestamp should show when the API call completed
3. Wait a few seconds - timestamp should NOT update (it's the query
time, not render time)
4. Click "Recheck" or trigger refetch - timestamp should update to new
fetch time
1 file, 1 line changed.

feat(ui): single-source design tokens, visual regression suite, and theme retune (#9134)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Its UI is the operator's daily surface: task lists, boards, budgets, agent status — all built on shadcn components and Tailwind > - Visual values (colors, spacing, type sizes, radii) were hardcoded at ~1,600 call sites: the same "small gray label" was 9/10/11px depending on the file, charts disagreed with chips about status colors, two toggle-switch implementations coexisted in two greens, and there was no visual regression coverage > - This made the UI drift-prone and made any restyle a hundreds-of-files project, which discourages design iteration > - This pull request extracts visual values into a single token layer in `ui/src/index.css`, adds a Storybook visual regression suite backed by external immutable baseline archives, and then applies a deliberate retune reviewed change-by-change on screenshot diffs > - The benefit is that Paperclip's look becomes a config surface: retheming is a token edit reviewed as a snapshot diff, drift is blocked by a token gate, and future UI PRs can prove exactly what changed visually without committing hundreds of PNGs ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No existing public issue covers this work (searched "design tokens", "visual regression", "design system" across issues and PRs). Related in spirit: Refs #8982 (theming a hardcoded panel — a one-off instance of the same problem class this PR addresses systematically). **Problem (feature-request form):** UI visual values are hardcoded per call site with no source of truth and no regression coverage; consistency depends on reviewer memory, and restyling requires mass file edits. **Proposed solution (this PR):** a single token layer + enforcement gate + externally stored visual snapshot suite, then an intentional restyle on top of that foundation. ## What Changed - **Token extraction (zero visual change, machine-verified during development):** committed codemods (`scripts/codemod-*.mjs`) moved ~1,600 hardcoded color/type/spacing/radius/shadow/misc values into named tokens in a non-inline `:root` block of `ui/src/index.css`. - **Visual regression suite:** `pnpm test:storybook-visual` covers 255 stories × light/dark = 510 Playwright screenshots at `maxDiffPixels: 0`, plus new primitive-coverage stories and deterministic-render fixes. - **External visual baselines:** committed PNG snapshots were removed. `tests/storybook-visual/baseline-manifest.json` pins an immutable archive URL/hash/size/count, and `scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs` handles `download`, `verify`, `pack`, and trusted maintainer `upload` flows. - **Opt-in visual CI artifacts:** added a `Storybook Visual` workflow that runs on manual dispatch or PRs labeled `storybook-visual`, downloads/verifies the baseline, runs Playwright, and uploads Playwright report/test-result artifacts for review. Normal PR runs do not mutate baseline objects. - **Token gate:** `pnpm check:token-gates` — zero hex literals, zero arbitrary bracket values, zero raw font-sizes in `ui/src/components/**` and `ui/src/pages/**`, with a documented inline allowlist for legitimate opt-outs. - **Theme retune (intentional, snapshot-reviewed):** new base theme values; radius ladder derived from a single `--radius` knob; micro-type cluster collapsed to a named ladder (`--text-nano/micro/compact` + Tailwind `text-xs`/`text-sm`); letter-spacing collapsed to named steps. - **One status-color vocabulary:** charts, quota/budget bar fills, RUNNING/live chips, and liveness indicators all use the canonical `--status-*` hues. Light-mode legibility fixes for red alert surfaces that used dark-tuned text classes. - **One switch:** `ToggleSwitch` restyled to the registry capsule form, second hand-rolled implementation removed, and all call sites unified. - **Docs:** `DESIGN.md` is the design contract; `doc/design/` holds audit reports, decision logs, and updated guidance for external baseline review/update workflows. - Dead code removed (`agentStatusBadge` duplicate map), byte-identical contrast constants consolidated, semantic renames (`--project-seed`/`--project-none`, `--liveness-blue`). ## Verification - `pnpm check:token-gates` — 3/3 gates CLEAN during the design-system run - `pnpm typecheck` && `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` — green during the design-system run - `node --test scripts/__tests__/storybook-visual-baseline.test.mjs` — pass after external-baseline rework - `pnpm exec tsc --noEmit --pretty false --module NodeNext --moduleResolution NodeNext --target ES2022 --types node,@playwright/test tests/storybook-visual/playwright.config.ts tests/storybook-visual/storybook-visual.spec.ts` — pass after external-baseline rework - `git diff --check origin/pr/9134..HEAD` — pass after external-baseline rework - `find tests/storybook-visual -type f -name '*.png' -print | wc -l` — `0` - `node scripts/storybook-visual-baseline.mjs verify` — intentionally fails closed until the first trusted maintainer publishes the baseline archive and updates `baseline-manifest.json` ## Risks - **Large but shallow:** the PR still touches many UI files due to mechanical token extraction and retune work, but committed PNG snapshot churn has been removed from the branch. - **Baseline publication required before the visual suite can pass in clean clones:** the manifest currently has placeholder archive metadata. A trusted maintainer must publish the first immutable archive, then update `baseline-manifest.json`. - **Rendering platform variance:** the external baseline should be captured in the documented Linux/Chromium environment. Future CI runs verify against the pinned archive and fail closed on checksum/count mismatch. - **Visual CI is opt-in while stabilizing:** add the `storybook-visual` label or dispatch the workflow manually to produce downloadable Playwright report/test-result artifacts. - **Scheduled follow-ups, deliberately out of scope:** Tailwind palette classes map to semantic tokens in a dedicated pass; card/pill component consolidation; ESLint ratchet. Tracked in `doc/design/DECISION-SHEET.md`. ## Model Used Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic, `claude-fable-5`, Mythos-class tier) with extended thinking, running in Claude Code with tool use; mechanical phases delegated to Claude Sonnet subagents. Follow-up external-baseline rework assisted by OpenAI Codex (`gpt-5` coding agent with repository, terminal, and GitHub tool use). All bulk rewrites executed via deterministic, idempotent scripts committed in `scripts/`; intentional visual changes were human-reviewed on screenshot contact sheets. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run targeted local verification and documented the intentional baseline-publication failure above - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green *(pending new CI run after this rework)* - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups *(pending review)* - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) and OpenAI Codex --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Dotta <bippadotta@protonmail.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add bounded workspace overview (#8627)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The execution workspace subsystem powers project and workspace views by listing runtime state, branch metadata, issue links, and status summaries. > - The existing workspace views relied on broad list data that can grow expensive as a company accumulates many workspaces and linked issues. > - That makes the Workspaces page and project workspace cards slower than necessary because the UI does not always need the full workspace detail payload up front. > - This pull request adds a bounded overview contract for workspace listings and moves the relevant UI surfaces to that cheaper path. > - The benefit is faster workspace loading while preserving detail fetches for pages that actually need full workspace data. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. Inline bug report follows the repository bug template. ### What happened? Workspace index-style screens can load too much execution workspace detail before the user asks for it. Several UI surfaces used fuller workspace data paths for summary displays, which can make workspace loading slower as workspace history grows. ### Expected behavior Overview screens should request a bounded summary payload, while detail screens should keep using the full workspace detail endpoint. ### Steps to reproduce 1. Run Paperclip from source with enough execution workspace history to make workspace lists non-trivial. 2. Open the Workspaces page or a project workspace summary card. 3. Observe that summary UI needs only bounded workspace metadata but can depend on broader workspace payloads. ### Paperclip version or commit `master` at the time this branch was prepared. ### Deployment mode Local dev (`pnpm dev`) ## What Changed - Added shared types, validators, and path constants for bounded execution workspace overviews. - Added server service and route support for overview queries with bounded linked issue/runtime metadata. - Updated workspace overview UI API calls, query keys, breadcrumbs, quicklooks, close dialogs, project summaries, and detail links to consume the cheaper overview shape where appropriate. - Added regression coverage for the new server route/service behavior and the UI overview consumers. - Registered the new workspace overview route in the generated OpenAPI spec. - Kept overview totals aligned with the project join and preserved project slug links in workspace headers. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-routes.test.ts ui/src/api/execution-workspaces.test.ts ui/src/components/ProjectWorkspaceSummaryCard.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Workspaces.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/execution-workspaces-service.test.ts` - `pnpm test:run:serialized -- --shard-index 1 --shard-count 4` ## Risks Low to medium risk. The change introduces a new overview contract across shared/server/ui layers, so the main risk is a mismatch between summary and detail payload expectations. PAP-10430: split Issue-to-Task copy migration (#7651)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The board UI is the operator surface where users create, assign, monitor, and review work items. > - The product language is moving toward "tasks" for user-facing work items while the internal API and database still use "issues". > - PR #7543 bundled this copy migration with broader information-architecture work, which made the branch too large for Greptile review. > - This pull request peels the Issue-to-Task copy migration into a smaller, independently reviewable change. > - The benefit is clearer user-facing terminology, less agent confusion via the Paperclip skill note, and a smaller PR that Greptile can review. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #7645 Refs #7543 Refs PAP-10430 This PR was split out of #7543 so the Issue-to-Task copy migration can be reviewed separately and the remaining IA PR can fall under Greptile's file limit. ## What Changed - Preserves Scott Tong's original `PAP-57` copy-only commit, with author and co-author credit intact, to rename user-facing "Issues" copy to "Tasks" across the UI while keeping routes/API/internal symbols as `issue`. - Updates onboarding and release-smoke browser selectors from `Create & Open Issue` to `Create & Open Task`. - Adds a terminology note to `skills/paperclip/SKILL.md` clarifying that task and issue refer to the same Paperclip work item. - Resolves the only cherry-pick conflict by keeping current search artifacts support and changing visible search copy to "tasks". ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui build` passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/IssuesList.test.tsx ui/src/components/Sidebar.test.tsx ui/src/components/NewIssueDialog.test.tsx ui/src/pages/IssueDetail.test.tsx` passed: 4 files, 66 tests. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passed. - Diff is 80 files, below Greptile's 100-file limit. - Before/after UI copy examples: "Issues" -> "Tasks", "New Issue" -> "New Task", "Create & Open Issue" -> "Create & Open Task". ## Risks - Medium copy-risk: this intentionally changes user-facing terminology broadly while keeping internal issue identifiers and routes unchanged. - Some docs and APIs still say `issue`; the skill note clarifies this so agents do not treat task and issue as separate entities. - Browser-level visual validation is expected from CI because this local container is missing usable browser dependencies. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used Scott Tong authored the original `PAP-57` copy migration, assisted by Claude Opus 4.8 and Paperclip agents per the preserved commit metadata. Codex / GPT-5-class coding agent with shell, GitHub CLI, and repository access performed the PR split, conflict resolution, skill note, and verification. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: scotttong <scott.tong@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Respect manual workspace runtime controls (#4125)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents inside execution and project workspaces > - Workspace runtime services can be controlled manually by operators and reused by agent runs > - Manual start/stop state was not preserved consistently across workspace policies and routine launches > - Routine launches also needed branch/workspace variables to default from the selected workspace context > - This pull request makes runtime policy state explicit, preserves manual control, and auto-fills routine branch variables from workspace data > - The benefit is less surprising workspace service behavior and fewer manual inputs when running workspace-scoped routines ## What Changed - Added runtime-state handling for manual workspace control across execution and project workspace validators, routes, and services. - Updated heartbeat/runtime startup behavior so manually stopped services are respected. - Auto-filled routine workspace branch variables from available workspace context. - Added focused server and UI tests for workspace runtime and routine variable behavior. - Removed muted gray background styling from workspace pages and cards for a cleaner workspace UI. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts ui/src/components/RoutineRunVariablesDialog.test.tsx` - Result: 55 tests passed, 21 skipped. The embedded Postgres routines tests skipped on this host with the existing PGlite/Postgres init warning; workspace-runtime and UI tests passed. ## Risks - Medium risk: this touches runtime service start/stop policy and heartbeat launch behavior. - The focused tests cover manual runtime state, routine variables, and workspace runtime reuse paths. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent based on GPT-5, tool-enabled local shell and GitHub workflow, exact runtime context window not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots, or documented why targeted component/service verification is sufficient here - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: implement multi-user access and invite flows (#3784)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies. > - V1 needs to stay local-first while also supporting shared, authenticated deployments. > - Human operators need real identities, company membership, invite flows, profile surfaces, and company-scoped access controls. > - Agents and operators also need the existing issue, inbox, workspace, approval, and plugin flows to keep working under those authenticated boundaries. > - This branch accumulated the multi-user implementation, follow-up QA fixes, workspace/runtime refinements, invite UX improvements, release-branch conflict resolution, and review hardening. > - This pull request consolidates that branch onto the current `master` branch as a single reviewable PR. > - The benefit is a complete multi-user implementation path with tests and docs carried forward without dropping existing branch work. ## What Changed - Added authenticated human-user access surfaces: auth/session routes, company user directory, profile settings, company access/member management, join requests, and invite management. - Added invite creation, invite landing, onboarding, logo/branding, invite grants, deduped join requests, and authenticated multi-user E2E coverage. - Tightened company-scoped and instance-admin authorization across board, plugin, adapter, access, issue, and workspace routes. - Added profile-image URL validation hardening, avatar preservation on name-only profile updates, and join-request uniqueness migration cleanup for pending human requests. - Added an atomic member role/status/grants update path so Company Access saves no longer leave partially updated permissions. - Improved issue chat, inbox, assignee identity rendering, sidebar/account/company navigation, workspace routing, and execution workspace reuse behavior for multi-user operation. - Added and updated server/UI tests covering auth, invites, membership, issue workspace inheritance, plugin authz, inbox/chat behavior, and multi-user flows. - Merged current `public-gh/master` into this branch, resolved all conflicts, and verified no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is included in this PR diff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime-service-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-validators.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authz-company-access.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sidebar-preferences-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/approval-routes-idempotency.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openclaw-invite-prompt-route.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-cross-tenant-authz-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-e2e.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyAccess.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm db:generate` - `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts --list` - Confirmed branch has no uncommitted changes and is `0` commits behind `public-gh/master` before PR creation. - Confirmed no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is staged or present in the PR diff. ## Risks - High review surface area: this PR contains the accumulated multi-user branch plus follow-up fixes, so reviewers should focus especially on company-boundary enforcement and authenticated-vs-local deployment behavior. - UI behavior changed across invites, inbox, issue chat, access settings, and sidebar navigation; no browser screenshots are included in this branch-consolidation PR. - Plugin install, upgrade, and lifecycle/config mutations now require instance-admin access, which is intentional but may change expectations for non-admin board users. - A join-request dedupe migration rejects duplicate pending human requests before creating unique indexes; deployments with unusual historical duplicates should review the migration behavior. - Company member role/status/grant saves now use a new combined endpoint; older separate endpoints remain for compatibility. - Full production build was not run locally in this heartbeat; CI should cover the full matrix. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent, GPT-5-based model, CLI/tool-use environment. Exact deployed model identifier and context window were not exposed by the runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Note on screenshots: this is a branch-consolidation PR for an already-developed multi-user branch, and no browser screenshots were captured during this heartbeat. --------- Co-authored-by: dotta <dotta@example.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

[codex] Harden execution reliability and heartbeat tooling (#3679)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies > - Reliable execution depends on heartbeat routing, issue lifecycle semantics, telemetry, and a fast enough local verification loop to keep regressions visible > - The remaining commits on this branch were mostly server/runtime correctness fixes plus test and documentation follow-ups in that area > - Those changes are logically separate from the UI-focused issue-detail and workspace/navigation branches even when they touch overlapping issue APIs > - This pull request groups the execution reliability, heartbeat, telemetry, and tooling changes into one standalone branch > - The benefit is a focused review of the control-plane correctness work, including the follow-up fix that restored the implicit comment-reopen helpers after branch splitting ## What Changed - Hardened issue/heartbeat execution behavior, including self-review stage skipping, deferred mention wakes during active execution, stranded execution recovery, active-run scoping, assignee resolution, and blocked-to-todo wake resumption - Reduced noisy polling/logging overhead by trimming issue run payloads, compacting persisted run logs, silencing high-volume request logs, and capping heartbeat-run queries in dashboard/inbox surfaces - Expanded telemetry and status semantics with adapter/model fields on task completion plus clearer status guidance in docs/onboarding material - Updated test infrastructure and verification defaults with faster route-test module isolation, cheaper default `pnpm test`, e2e isolation from local state, and repo verification follow-ups - Included docs/release housekeeping from the branch and added a small follow-up commit restoring the implicit comment-reopen helpers that were dropped during branch reconstruction ## Verification - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-telemetry-routes.test.ts` - `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/http-log-policy.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-log.test.ts server/src/__tests__/health.test.ts` - `server/src/__tests__/activity-service.test.ts`, `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-comment-wake-batching.test.ts`, and `server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-process-recovery.test.ts` were attempted on this host but the embedded Postgres harness reported init-script/data-dir problems and skipped or failed to start, so they are noted as environment-limited ## Risks - Medium: this branch changes core issue/heartbeat routing and reopen/wakeup behavior, so regressions would affect agent execution flow rather than isolated UI polish - Because it also updates verification infrastructure, reviewers should pay attention to whether the new tests are asserting the right failure modes and not just reshaping harness behavior ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent (GPT-5-class runtime in Codex CLI; exact deployed model ID is not exposed in this environment), reasoning enabled, tool use and local code execution enabled ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Fix horizontal scroll overflow in close workspace modal
Root cause: CSS Grid items default to min-width:auto, allowing content to push the dialog wider than the viewport on mobile. - Add [&>*]:min-w-0 on DialogContent to prevent grid children from expanding beyond the container width - Keep overflow-x-hidden as safety net - Remove negative-margin sticky footer that extended beyond bounds - Revert to standard DialogFooter without negative margins Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |
