perf: schedule agent timers from durable deadlines (#17876)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/58/changes/paperclip/58 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent timers must start due work and preserve queue admission rules. > - The server woke their scan on every heartbeat interval, even with no eligible timer. > - Idle scans keep the database and instance active. > - This pull request derives the next deadline from saved policy and work records. > - Supported producer transactions notify the shared coordinator when eligibility changes. > - An idle timer worker stops scanning and resumes when real work or a deadline requires it. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17863. This is slice 63 of the recurring-work migration and follows the merged issue-monitor deadline PR. Related: #16632 changes timer issue scope; #16881 changes live-run eligibility. This PR preserves the current admission policy. Those policy changes are separate work. A future time-sensitive predicate must expose its next transition deadline. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent timer heartbeat scheduling in the server. **Current behavior** A recurring heartbeat wakes the timer scan even when companies are paused, timers are disabled, or no actionable task exists. **Proposed behavior** Register the earliest eligible interval or positive daily-cap reset deadline. Re-read on supported producer commits and startup. Leave no recurring database scan when no timer obligation remains. ## What Changed - Keep policy and deadline calculation in the heartbeat queue. Scheduling retains company, reporting-chain, worktree, and CAS gates. - Use the existing deadline coordinator. Remove only the timer wake from the server heartbeat loop. - Notify before existing transaction writes that change eligibility or deadlines. Cover configuration, lifecycle, company budgets, task ownership, recovery, conversations, accounting corrections, and completion. - Use the lifecycle status-change hook for saved hire rejection. Cover checkout's second adoption transaction after an initial failed CAS. - Preserve pending work through idle and maintenance drains. Check cancellation between due agents. Reconstruct on restart. - Document the supported writer model and producer inventory. Add no schema, table, or provider branch. ## Verification - **1,710 passing cases across 49 complete files**, no skips, on accepted source `32db86c1974dcbf794f01a8c5e42024e2ad071fc`. Coverage includes real timer policy/CAS/producers, monitor and shared deadline consumers, native reconstruction, Slack lifecycle, skills/settings/configuration, queue isolation and agent lifecycle. - Database build, production server typechecking/build, module boundaries, target migration order and Runner profile identity pass. Twenty-nine fresh PostgreSQL 17 schemas plus per-file fixtures applied all 412 journal entries through index 413; all selected source hashes and temporary fixture imports were restored exactly. - Four new deadline composition cases verify future/overdue timing, minimum scan spacing and disarming. A controlled mutation dropping only the inherited continuation option fails; the composed source passes with identical assertions and timers. - Normal parent reconciliation preserves task-drain expiry and both deadline contracts. The final monitor-parent publication changes only its audit, preserving every qualified runtime and selected test source. - Historical failures and review corrections remain in [the timer audit](doc/idle-agent-timers.md). No full local repository-suite, live provider, measured suspend/wake, external-alarm or fleet-savings claim. Final-head CI/security, exact-head Greptile 5/5 and actionable Ponytail findings remain separate merge gates. ## Risks - Process-local notifications cover supported service/API writers in one server process. Direct SQL and independent replicas need an explicit ingress contract. Startup reconstruction is not live cross-process notification. - Notifications can batch for up to the configured heartbeat interval. Known deadlines retain their scheduler path; failed reconciliation retains bounded retry. - Enabled timers without an actionable-work requirement remain real recurring obligations. Zero caps require policy changes; positive reached caps use UTC midnight. - The timer fixture substitutes adapter enqueue. Existing admission tests also pass, but this is not deployed provider or sleep qualification. - Cloud does not gain legacy agent timer alarms in this PR. Existing sleep-safety blockers remain. No database/host suspension or fleet savings claim is made. - Parent-stack CI and review must pass before merge. This PR does not authorize merging its dependencies. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6-based coding agent), using repository inspection, normal Git merges, composition proofs, a controlled red/green regression and complete PostgreSQL integration suites. No subagents were used in this reconciliation. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule issue monitors without heartbeat polling (#17863)
<!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.com/gh/paperclipai/-/trails/56/changes/paperclip/56 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Issue monitors save a future check on an existing issue. > - The heartbeat timer still scans monitors on every tick, even when none are due. > - The saved deadline and claim already provide durable scheduling state. > - This pull request gives monitors their own deadline worker and connects state changes to it. > - Idle monitor work stops querying. Existing admission and recovery rules remain in force. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17840, #16325. Related: #17171 addresses rearming a monitor after its admitted run fails. This PR changes when monitor inspection runs and follows the merged routine prerequisite. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Issue-monitor scheduling and idle database use. **Current behavior** Heartbeat ticks call the combined agent and monitor sweep. The existing next-deadline query only retains future monitors. Polling covers overdue leftovers, stale claims, and changes that make a saved monitor eligible. **Proposed behavior** Use the shared deadline worker. Retain overdue work with bounded retries. Wake after committed changes to monitor state, issue eligibility, company state, or native ownership. Keep legacy agent ticks separate for the next slice. ## What Changed - Add monitor-specific sweep and deadline methods to the existing scheduling owner. Keep the manual combined method. - Include overdue work and the strict five-minute claim fence. Exclude active native owners until their state changes. - Register monitors with the shared deadline worker. Heartbeat ticks wake only the legacy agent timer worker. - Connect direct issue-state writers and existing execution-control notifications to monitor work. Checkout uses a short transaction around its existing CAS. Provider work stays outside it. - Add real database lifecycle tests and retain routine, startup, admission, execution-control, and native-projection coverage. - Record the obligation, producer inventory, recovery behavior, and limits in `doc/plans/2026-10-27-issue-monitor-sleep-audit.md`. ## Verification - **1,233 passing cases in 35 complete files**, no skips, on accepted source `c24aadfc91e9394d73c799f9e05fc67202160557`. Coverage includes real monitor scheduling/admission, native settlement, committed producers, retained routines and all shared deadline consumer integration suites. - Database build, production server typechecking/build, module boundaries, target migration order and Runner profile identity pass. Twenty-four fresh PostgreSQL 17 schemas plus per-file fixtures applied all 412 journal entries through index 413; every selected source hash and temporary fixture import was restored exactly. - Normal parent reconciliation preserves master's admitted-wake result and scoped issue deletion while keeping committed monitor notifications. All other paths match the automatic merge; packages remain byte-exact to the qualified parent. The final routine-parent publication changes only its audit. - Historical failures and corrections remain in [the monitor audit](doc/plans/2026-10-27-issue-monitor-sleep-audit.md). Old delegated-Slack rate and Runner drain CI failures are retained; the current inherited clock fixture and package source are byte-identical to merged #17835. Fresh final-head CI remains required. - No full local repository-suite, live provider, deployed suspend/wake, external-alarm, production-load or fleet-savings claim. Final-head CI/security, exact-head Greptile 5/5 and actionable Ponytail findings remain separate merge gates. ## Risks - A missing producer notification can strand a monitor after polling is removed. The audit covers ordinary writes, direct status/assignment writers, recovery, and native ownership changes. - The writer model is process-local. Independent SQL writers and other replicas need a supported notification or reconciliation contract. - Overdue work uses the configured heartbeat interval as a retry floor for the monitor worker. New notifications during that backoff wait for its next pass. Normal state-change bursts coalesce for one second. - Notification fanout can inspect monitors during other active work. An unchanged idle subsystem has no recurring monitor scan. - The legacy agent timer still polls. Cloud sleep proofs and external alarm coverage are unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-6-based coding agent), using repository inspection, ordinary Git merges, composition proofs, PostgreSQL fixtures and complete local integration suites. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): wake native status reassessment from committed changes (#17709)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agents, tasks and their durable native results. > - Changed evidence, task authority or review retirement can require a new status assessment. > - Periodic orphan recovery repeatedly reads history to find these changes. > - This change gives reassessment an owner driven by committed changes and saved deadlines. > - Existing result, assessment, decision and task rows remain durable truth. > - The status committer still verifies current sources and authority before writing. > - Settled or insufficient evidence becomes quiet until a supported producer changes it. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17702 (merged), #17679 and #17680. This is slice 50, now based on master. It owns native status reassessment; workspace settlement, retained sessions and other orphan duties remain separate. **What happened?** Periodic recovery repeatedly inspects completed native results. Removing that scan without complete writer coverage or current authority checks could strand new evidence or commit an old result over newer work. **Expected behavior** Reassess from existing durable facts after relevant outer transactions commit. Retain real retry/lease deadlines and restart/drain recovery. Preserve current authority, quality-review and supersession checks. Make no recurring SQL when work is settled or dormant. **Steps to reproduce** Complete a native result awaiting evidence or review, leave it idle, then approve a real work product or retire the selected automatic review. Its saved result should advance once when authorized, or record the existing nonterminal business gate, without a periodic scan. ## What Changed - Extract reassessment and its pure status policy from finalization recovery into their owning modules. Add a scoped worker using the existing delivery coordinator and scheduler; no queue table or migration is added. - Retain the three durable discovery triggers: changed work-product history, authoritative task status/version, or retirement of the selected automatic completion review. Preserve selected-source, ownership, effects, retry and lease fences under the existing committer. - Notify from actual task/work-product, claim release, approval, interaction, OAuth, event evidence and workspace-settlement owners before their transaction writes. Keep provider calls outside short transactions and nested writes behind outer commit. - Scope ordinary milestone/finalization/coalesced-input wakes to an issue/run. Keep genuine company authority restoration explicit. Real Photon and coalescer regressions cover all three response/status queues. - Move the current parent's required quality policy into the owner and apply it to every reassessment that could complete a task. An unmet review records the existing in-progress decision and next action, avoiding an operational retry loop. Preserve conversation/session reset locks and the workspace omission-barrier signal. - Skip reassessment in periodic recovery while preserving explicit/startup recovery and the historical supersession guard before independent workspace work. Document the source contract, producer inventory, failures and qualifications in the linked audit. ## Verification - Broad source `9fddb3f0b1157df32b64fb1f22e9d6e9624470e8` passes **2731 distinct cases in 28 complete files**, with no skips: 2458 producer/owner/authority/workspace/quality cases in 394.43 seconds and all 273 governed-response cases in 53.74 seconds. Nineteen dedicated fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through 0413; eighteen embedded-only invocations preserve fresh-per-call isolation through the existing recovery helper. All 22 temporary imports restore exactly and all 28 hashes match. - Final runtime source `5ea3b0fd016bf7e63ba82a7044825a46a0cd2082` passes **1211 cases in five complete affected files** in 108.23 seconds after the narrowly reproduced evidence-trigger fix: all 43 worker, 145 corpus, 32 finalization-recovery, 968 native-session and 23 quality-review cases. Four fresh databases plus the quality helper's own fresh fixture use PostgreSQL 17. Its one adapted import restores exactly; all five hashes match. The other 27 broad-run test files are unchanged. These qualifications are source-scoped and not cumulatively double-counted. - Required/optional real regressions reproduce retry loops on retired-review and evidence-approval paths before repair; both become SQL quiet afterward with unchanged assertions/time limits. Controlled removal of only ordinary scope guards reproduces two coarse-hint SQL failures; exact guard restoration passes. Real producer, outer transaction, claim, authority, 103-item backlog, retry and drain cases pass. Photon transport is mocked; callbacks, locks and observed SQL are real. - Normal merges preserve 12661 parent/unrelated entries, 35 owned entries and 21 automatic shared results, with five original conflicts reviewed explicitly. The parent's actual squash reconciliation preserves the entire held child tree. The final quality fix changes only its owner and tests. Fourteen added comments are removed with identical nontrivia tokens; no directives are removed and the final comment check is empty. - Database build, server types/build, boundaries and exact-head migration order pass. The database tree is identical to merged #17702: no new SQL, queue table or snapshot is generated. Earlier benchmarks, host limitations, failed assertions and their repairs remain in `doc/plans/2026-10-26-native-status-reassessment-sleep-audit.md` and `doc/idle-native-status-reassessment.md`. - This qualifies targeted external PostgreSQL behavior, not embedded bootstrap on the semaphore-exhausted host, a full local repository suite, deployed sleep or measured fleet savings. Fresh exact-head CI and review remain required. ## Risks - Notifications retain the process-local supported-writer contract. Independent SQL writers and uncoordinated replicas are not covered by a new transport. - Reassessment competes with current authority changes. Existing row/source locks and retries remain required; arbitrary missing identities have no row to lock, so this is not a general predicate-lock guarantee. - Discovery pages 100 rows but retains outstanding candidates in memory. It remains proportional to backlog size, and cancellation occurs between queries. - Other orphan/workspace/session duties and Cloud sleep eligibility remain unchanged. Missing supported producer coverage could strand dormant work, so the producer audit and real callback/transaction tests remain part of acceptance. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution and PostgreSQL tests. The runtime does not expose a more specific serving snapshot or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted scope is stated above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule accepted native response recovery (#17696)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native runs store accepted results and their finalization decisions. > - A completed run can still owe its public answer after an interruption. > - Periodic recovery scans for that answer even when no new work exists. > - This pull request wakes recovery from committed changes and saved retry deadlines. > - The existing owner still verifies the result, source, and current publication authority. > - Settled or dormant response work no longer needs its own periodic scan. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17690 (merged). This is slice 48 of the sleep migration stack, now based on master. Related: #17661 handles GitHub terminal publication; this change handles native accepted-response presentation. Governed-review presentation remains a separate duty. **What happened?** Native finalization recovery repeatedly checks already accepted results for a missing answer. Removing that check without complete notifications would lose responses when evidence arrives late, an agent resumes, or admission settles after execution. **Expected behavior** Recover the answer from its saved result when a supported change makes it eligible. Retain real retry deadlines. Stop querying when the answer is selected or cannot currently be published. Reconstruct work after restart. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Commit a native accepted result with no selected response comment. 2. Run finalization recovery while its source is unavailable or locked. 3. Restore that source or release the lock. The answer must appear once without repeating provider execution. ## What Changed - Honor recorded non-create decisions and skip-comment policy in both discovery and recovery. Apply durable conversation/result/continuation guards before recovery locks. Preserve genuine unanswered and legacy recovery. - Scope routine response wakes to the affected issue/run. Coalesced input names its active run; pending-effect settlement names its issue. Sixteen existing global authority/configuration hooks use one explicit company invalidation boundary. No new transaction wrappers or tables are added. - Add an accepted-response worker using the existing delivery coordinator and scoped deadline helper. Preserve saved retry deadlines and pending-effect fences under the owner's lock. - Share the finalization notification boundary. Wake on finalization settlement, exact accepted-result/final-message evidence, agent availability, retry admission, and existing chat authority changes. - Keep lifecycle policy in services. A narrow pre-write status hook lets lifecycle retain ownership of its transaction and status transitions. - Register the worker during enabled maintenance startup. Remove its authority subscription on shutdown. Periodic replay skips this duty on both committed and fresh-commit paths; ordinary finalization and explicit recovery retain their behavior. - Add a partial index and expression statistics for unpresented native runs. Migration 0412 supports concurrent replay and adds no queue table. - Add real PostgreSQL and lifecycle coverage. Preserve the implementation and producer audit in the plan document. ## Verification - Additional real Photon callback acceptance on the published production code disproves the security warning: ten active assertions cause zero response-recovery hints/SELECTs, while three concurrent assertions during an actual attention-to-active recovery cause exactly one wake/SELECT. The existing locked status guard already enforces this boundary. No production change was needed; the resolved finding now has a successful current-head security check. The regression will be retained with the next slice. - Eligibility repair source `892f36e5f66ba1af123034936a7160c64c3ab883` passes **1489 distinct server cases**: 1139 in six complete recovery/finalizer/monitor/summary/workspace suites (81.02 seconds), plus 350 selected chat cases (297.68s). Another 1463 chat cases are outside the pattern; the complete 1813-case file is not claimed. All eleven new regressions are included in that count. Five dedicated fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through unchanged 0412, with no fixture-source adaptations. Database build, server types/build, boundaries and full-SHA migration ordering pass. All seven test source hashes match. - The exact published baseline first fails eight behavioral assertions while the three genuine-answer cases pass. The same corrected test source passes all eleven after repair: recorded none/reuse remain suppressed; five ineligible history families take zero recovery row locks across repeated issue hints; missing/legacy/create-null answers still publish once; fresh periodic finalization defers presentation to its worker. Earlier fixture setup and variable/compiler failures remain explained in the audit, rather than erased by later success. - Repair source `2fc8b0614aaf9ac7337045de4ced7325f95edc45` passes **1821 server cases**: 1496 in 13 complete producer/lifecycle/authority suites (110.63 seconds), plus 325 selected chat cases (278.99 seconds). Coverage includes all native-session cases, queue admission, status decisions, membership/board access, the complete GitHub workflow, accepted-response lifecycle and real authority restoration. The other 1477 chat cases are outside this selection; the complete 1802-case file is not claimed for this repair run. - Actual PostgreSQL regressions first reproduce a coalesced-input hint missing its run scope and two routine hint paths producing 12 response-history SELECTs each after three notifications. The same assertions pass with run-scoped coalescing and zero response-history SELECTs for unscoped routine hints. Actual membership restoration still publishes the waiting response once. Assertion time limits are unchanged; this measures real driver SQL and persisted producer work. - Eleven dedicated fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through 0412. One embedded-only wake-queue fixture import temporarily uses its own external database and restores byte for byte. All 14 selected source files match pre-run hashes. This qualifies external-database behavior rather than reproducing embedded CI locally. - Master advanced independently with #18126's Pi archive retry fix. Normal merge `2a535bc61259ef99387369e8b32498f774e5ba2c` preserves both complete binary patches. All accepted server/database/UI/test/CLI trees stay identical; the three independent runner installer/manifest files are retained. All 13 installer tests pass, including stalled header/body cancellation. Combined server types/build, boundaries and full-SHA migration order pass. A subsequent normal merge of #18128 at `e8b78cce5bb557b086bee9ca930eeaab1d09b244` retains its three test-only file changes with both complete patches preserved. The changed HTTPS backfill case passes on a fresh PostgreSQL fixture (1 selected case; 178 outside the pattern), and combined types/build, boundaries and migration order pass again. All 14 repair source hashes remain unchanged. The independent browser fixture changes are preserved; no local browser run is claimed. - The earlier source `9feec170ef8174011fc3c5d3d6d76f0a0f39fea0` passed the 4171-case full baseline before this scope repair. That scope is preserved in the audit rather than represented as a current full rerun. All 0412 database bytes remain unchanged: original concurrent index/statistics/ANALYZE, prior executable history, journal entries and retained snapshots. Five snapshots 0408 through 0412 remain. The populated 0411-to0412 upgrade preserved 410 prior receipts and 38 companies, appended one receipt and none on replay; index/statistic checks passed. - The earlier P2 security failure, Greptile's former conditional dependency on #17702, and the subsequent actual Ponytail eligibility findings are recorded in `doc/plans/2026-10-25-native-response-presentation-sleep-audit.md`. This PR now includes the issue-scoped pending-effect notification fix itself, so it is independently correct before #17702. Fresh published-head CI, Greptile 5/5 and a clean security scan remain required. No deployed-sleep, external-wake or fleet-savings claim is made. ## Risks - The writer contract is process-local. Independent SQL writers and other replicas are not covered by these notifications. - Unpresented backlog reconstruction still has memory and time cost proportional to candidate count. Pages contain at most 100 rows; execution uses the shared fair batch. Selected history is excluded. Health-only signals do not trigger reconstruction. - Publication policy remains with its current owner. Digest, company/run binding, source authorization, selected-answer suppression, and ownership fences remain required. - The rest of native recovery and governed-review presentation still run separately. This PR does not relax Cloud sleep eligibility or add external wake coverage. - The stack parent has merged and its actual ancestry is reconciled. This publication still needs fresh current-head CI and review. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and PostgreSQL tests. The runtime does not expose a more specific model identifier or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com> |

fix(server): schedule historical unsafe export recovery (#17687)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Native runs can retain accepted results after an unsafe workspace export fails. > - Historical recovery can retire an old notice or resume the accepted result without another provider turn. > - The periodic reaper repeatedly scans failures that cannot currently recover. > - Existing rows and committed changes can identify the actual recovery obligation. > - This pull request wakes recovery from those changes and retries only owed work. > - Dormant history becomes quiet while ownership and explicit operator decisions remain protected. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The native finalization reaper repeatedly visits historical unsafe workspace-export failures. Cancelled tasks, newer runs, changed contracts, and explicit operator decisions can make those rows permanently ineligible. They still produce periodic database reads. **What did you expect?** Retire stale unsafe-export notices and recover eligible accepted results. Stop reading dormant history until a relevant committed change occurs. Keep a retry while a real obligation is blocked by ownership or a transient failure. **Steps to reproduce** Retain an unsafe-export terminal failure whose task is cancelled or superseded. Leave the instance idle after startup. The periodic reaper continues reading that history. Prerequisite #17680 is merged into master. Related: #14402 established safe export finalization; #14329 was an earlier historical recovery proposal. #17679 owns separate policy-review cleanup. This PR changes only historical unsafe-export scheduling and its producers. ## What Changed - Register a scoped worker through the existing coordinator and scheduler. Remove this duty from periodic reaping. Preserve the manual/startup recovery entry point. - Distinguish stale notices, eligible accepted results, dormant history, and concrete ownership contention. Reuse the existing mutation owner and lock order. Preserve explicit settlement vetoes and exact result/contract identity. - Signal relevant task, run, action, and deletion writes before they commit. Existing transaction boundaries handle nested commits and uncertain outcomes. Notifications contain only scope IDs. - Retain a retry only for owed work. Reconstruct work at startup, preserve drain/resume, and stop through the shared lifecycle. - Add concurrent, idempotent partial index migration 0410 for unsafe terminal failures. Keep the five newest generated schema snapshots. - Document producer coverage, query plans, supported writer boundaries, and test failures in the unsafe-export audit. ## Verification - Source `2a13dd08a6cc52f0adab09e3df9ce31e97b746b9` passes all 2188 cases across 24 complete files, without skips. The main selection passes 2129 cases in 192.58 seconds; safe-replacement passes 59 in 26.04 seconds. Coverage includes all 968 native-session cases, real export/action producers, explicit continuation, workspace reconstruction, interaction routing, Stop, queue and Slack consumers. The audit gives per-file counts. - Twenty separate fresh PostgreSQL 17 databases migrate through 0410 before setup. Four embedded-only fixture imports temporarily use their own external database on this IPC-exhausted host, then are restored byte for byte. Assertions and timing limits stay unchanged. This is qualified external-database acceptance, not an unmodified embedded CI run. - Database build, server typecheck/build, module boundaries and exact-head migration order pass. Normal integration preserves the complete original runtime/schema patch and unrelated upstream blobs. Original concurrent index SQL, all prior executable history, journal entries and retained snapshot bytes are unchanged; five snapshots 0406 through 0410 remain. Added comment removal preserves the full non-comment TypeScript token streams. - A populated 0409-to0410 upgrade preserves all 408 prior migration receipts and 38 companies. It appends exactly one receipt; replay adds none. The index is valid and ready on fresh and upgraded databases. - The owning audit retains earlier fixture failures, skipped checks and notice-retirement regression history. Older combined stack checks retain their original scope in their owning audits. Actual parent `73d24aa5acfcf17b3f676b4da7cd05eb70b60b99` is reconciled through a normal merge. Its tree equals the reviewed ancestor and the complete accepted child tree is unchanged. Fresh published-head CI and Greptile 5/5 remain required. No deployed sleep, fleet-cost or live provider qualification claim is made. - Inherited prefix correction: current integration `8f43c9f81fac23b50997e7f0e1d0d9cf383a8109` changes only two values in a previously unselected corpus fixture. All production code, the complete package tree and all 24 accepted test files remain byte-identical to the 2188-case source above. The additional complete 72-case corpus passes in 14.00 seconds and again on the same database in 13.08 seconds. Retained PSC/OUT and sentinel rows remain unchanged. The repeat is not double-counted. The parent audit retains the original collision and rejected cleanup attempt. - Latest parent context: integration `4d51231abe8b68c21ce896d0d2ac16865978c8ab` carries only the parent's one-argument GitHub observation correction and an independent master cleanup assertion. All production code, packages, 24 accepted suite files and the additional corpus are unchanged. The two focused native-presentation cases pass in 15.14 seconds and the complete cleanup-removal suite passes all six cases in 8.31 seconds on two fresh 0410 PostgreSQL fixtures. This does not claim the full parent workflow was rerun here. Current head `b28399babac72ba9db1c4a4ef882c5e87aded38c` has passing CI and Greptile 5/5 with no actionable findings. The first CI attempt lost runners: fourteen jobs explicitly received simultaneous shutdown signals, two reported lost runner communication, and two aggregate gates failed downstream. One failed-job retry on unchanged source passes. The underlying host shutdown cause remains unconfirmed; no code fix or extra retry is claimed. [CI run and attempts](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/40819408528). No Ponytail verdict is present. ## Risks - A missing future producer can delay dormant-history discovery until restart. The audit names current producers. Independent SQL writers and other server processes remain outside the process-local signal contract. - Physical ownership and uncertain operations retain retries. Time alone does not authorize taking workspace ownership. No provider turn or unsafe archive retry is added. - The recovery owner remains authoritative if state changes after discovery. Terminal UI status does not authorize resource destruction or accepted-result replay. - The partial index adds matching-row write/storage cost. It builds concurrently through the existing restart-safe migration runner. - This proves the changed worker becomes quiet. It does not prove host suspension, external wake coverage, or fleet cost savings. Other sleep migrations remain. This slice still requires fresh current-head CI and reviews. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning and code-execution tools. fix(server): wake chat lifecycle milestones from committed changes (#17606)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Connected chats show safe notices when a run starts, waits, finishes, or fails. > - A recurring scan projected these notices even when no eligible work existed. > - Eligibility depends on committed run state, conversation lineage, and current authority. > - Existing database rows can reconstruct that work after restart. > - This PR wakes a scoped worker from those writes and removes lifecycle polling. > - Native progress events keep their separate existing owner until the next migration. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The chat maintenance timer repeatedly scanned run lifecycle state. Empty and settled instances still queried the database. A run-status event alone cannot replace the scan: prompt receipts, continuation receipts, identity changes, and restored authority can make a run eligible later. **What did you expect?** Committed changes wake projection. Startup reconstructs eligible work. A completed pass stops until another relevant change arrives. Failed work retains recovery without scanning settled history forever. **Steps to reproduce** Configure an automatic chat endpoint. Finish its work, or leave it unused. Observe recurring lifecycle projection queries from the chat maintenance callback. Stacked on #17592. Related foundation: #15625. This PR owns lifecycle milestones only. ## What Changed - Preserve upstream coalesced Cloud membership writes together with locked membership restoration and its committed chat notification. - Signal milestone eligibility from the real Slack account-link transaction. - Register the lifecycle worker with the existing delivery coordinator. Remove lifecycle projection from the periodic chat callback. Keep native progress in a separately named lane and preserve the explicit combined API. - Reconstruct company/issue scopes from the existing selector. Drain bounded batches with company fairness. Retry failures, retain writes through drain/resume, and disarm settled work. - Signal from supported run, presentation, interaction, receipt, lineage, conversation, recovery, and authority writers. Preserve their transaction ownership, including nested savepoints and uncertain settlement. No new table is added. - Preserve provider authorization, authored-final suppression, responsible-user continuity, deduplication, the 24-hour selection window, and raw-output restrictions. Keep provider interpretation in its owner. - Preserve PostgreSQL timestamp precision in lifecycle pagination. Rejected submillisecond candidates must not repeat the same page and starve later notices. - Document producer coverage and alternate-writer dispositions in `doc/plans/2026-10-25-chat-run-milestone-sleep-audit.md`. ## Verification Published head: `1d056f68c5b1005933b9e12de8745bf1c4cbeeca`, targeting master after #17592 merged at `7d75ae0569e41786640cf09647ae8849411d2f22`. A normal merge integrates the actual landed parent. The entire 77-path milestone patch is binary-identical to the locally verified preparation across that ancestry reconciliation; both unrelated master paths are preserved. The four earlier producer/test integration conflicts retain scoped milestone and voice notices, current onboarding completion admission, and expanded identity query/read-scope coverage. - **330 distinct selected cases pass on the verified unchanged patch:** 305 across 14 complete suites (all five milestone worker suites, run identity, board claim, Cloud provisioning, auth session routes, Cloud actor authentication, stale-lock recovery, GitHub credentials, project Git authorization, and app admission wiring), plus 25 selected real chat producer cases. The remaining 1,590 chat integration cases were skipped, not passed. - The real producer cases cover saved milestone discovery, GitHub and Slack identity changes, account-link rollback/reconfirmation, ordinary ingress reactivation, post-close action/delivery receipt settlement, all ten authority-restoration paths including Cloud synchronization, and changed native review metadata. - Worker coverage verifies outer commit, rollback, uncertain-write recovery, restart, bounded batching/fairness, timestamp precision, retries, drain/resume, and settled SQL quiet. Authorization and existing publication deduplication remain with their owning services. - Server production typechecking, build, and module-boundary checks pass. The tests above were executed separately. Production typechecking excludes `src/__tests__` and does not replace those runs. Each database owner uses its own newly created and app-migrated PostgreSQL fixture. - [Current-parent acceptance and preserved failure ledger](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/1d056f68c5b1005933b9e12de8745bf1c4cbeeca/doc/plans/2026-10-25-chat-run-milestone-sleep-audit.md#current-parent-integration-and-acceptance-october-28) records commands, counts, producer scope, conflict dispositions, and limits. Earlier combined-stack counts and failures keep their original revision scope; local acceptance does not erase old CI failures. - No new migration, queue table, dependency, workflow, or shared scheduler contract is introduced. Parent migration 0397, bounded consent recovery, voice cleanup/retention repairs, and runner checkpoint restoration remain present. - **Exact-head Greptile is 5/5 and all 55 current checks are clean.** No Ponytail review is present, which is an explicitly authorized nonblocker; no failing review is waived. Older reviews and parent checks are not current passes. Actual failing Ponytail findings must be fixed; an absent/stopped/paused turn without a verdict is an authorized nonblocker. Active unfinished Ponytail uses its original request/start timer, with a 25-minute monitor cutoff respecting the user's 30-minute maximum. - No complete local repository matrix, live provider tenant, external alarm, physical host/database suspension, or fleet savings claim is made. Native progress remains a separate following slice. ## Risks - A future eligibility writer must notify the existing projection boundary. Independent SQL writers or another active server process are outside this process-local signal contract. - Authority and lineage remain sensitive. The worker uses the existing selectors and publication policy; it does not grant execution or disclosure authority. - Native progress and other publication maintenance still have recurring work. This PR removes one reason, not the entire chat maintenance timer. - Worker quiet does not prove database suspension, host sleep, or external alarm coverage. Cloud sleep blockers remain unchanged. - Merge eligibility requires passing current-head CI and Greptile 5/5 after this actual-master reconciliation. Subsequent stack slices retain their own gates. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family. The exact serving model ID and context-window size are not exposed. Used repository inspection, reasoning, shell execution, PostgreSQL tests, browser E2Es and GitHub tools. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details available in this session) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run the documented focused tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): deliver voice replies from commits and saved deadlines (#17578)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Phone calls receive approved answers from the existing chat publication queue. > - The chat maintenance timer checks for voice replies every second, including when no reply is ready. > - A reply can be saved before its publication commits. An early wake alone can miss that final transition. > - Existing session, reply, publication, and action rows already record delivery and recovery work. > - This pull request uses committed changes and saved deadlines to drive phone reply delivery. > - Empty reply queues become quiet while authorization, ordering, and uncertain-send protection remain in place. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Stacked on #17576. Related delivery infrastructure: #15625. Related voice connection work: #11418. **What existing behavior does this improve?** Background phone reply delivery and recovery of abandoned dispatch intents. **Current behavior** Chat maintenance calls voice reply delivery every second. It also scans old dispatch intents. Publication transport starts a direct push before the final publication commit. The timer masks that timing gap. **Proposed behavior** Committed publication, reply, session, and configuration changes wake the shared coordinator. Ready replies drain in bounded passes. Saved rate-limit and dispatch-expiry deadlines retain recovery. An empty queue or a permanent delivery barrier has no recurring reply scan. **Reason and benefit** Remove recurring SQL from idle phone reply delivery without dropping replies, replaying uncertain sends, or adding a queue table. **Breaking changes** No API or schema change. Explicit manual recovery remains available. Inbound admission cleanup, history retention, and reports remain on their current paths for separate migrations. ## What Changed - Extract ordered reply state and multipart policy within the voice owner. Retain current authorization and atomic dispatch claims. - Register a scoped reply worker with startup reconstruction, fair work batches, failure backoff, drain/resume handling and shutdown ownership. - Extend the existing shared dispatcher with normalized partial-page results to preserve the bounded parent recovery contract. Existing complete-array consumers retain their calls. - Signal before relevant writes in their existing transactions. Both normal publication completion and operator resolution wake the actual conversation after commit. - Bound reply inventory to 100 total headers per refresh. Preserve partial scans, concurrent changes and newer denied-call restoration obligations across reconstruction. - Track abandoned dispatch actions independently of live calls. Quarantine expired intents without resending them. - Use existing active-call authorization checks to reactivate replies that were previously denied. Healthy call inspections do not rescan empty reply queues. - Remove the periodic reply scan and the early direct publication push. Keep provider requests outside database transactions. ## Verification Published head: `1435cab10be3f95c38ab6672d2a890ae49e9d300`. Voice recovery #17576 has landed at master `e1ba77f06771a27114b3999004b0ca5e3c172dd4`. A normal merge reconciles squash ancestry while preserving the complete reviewed 31-file reply patch byte for byte and all unrelated master changes. The PR now targets master; fresh exact-head CI and Greptile are required. The prior 449-case/typecheck/build results below cover the identical owned source, not a new full-suite run. - **449 distinct targeted cases pass**: 111 complete voice-store/reply; 19 complete parent recovery; and 319 complete tool-gateway, secret-proposal, shared dispatcher/coordinator/batching/startup/hostname cases. Production server typecheck and build pass. The policy checker and its Node tests pass. Later edits record evidence only. - Two real normal-publication/operator-resolution tests seed 105 unrelated calls and 105 future dispatches. Five publications selected **1,065/1,060 inventory rows before repair**; both paths now pass the same **125-row total budget** and deliver every answer once. This counts selected SQL results, not physical tuple visits or host savings. - Publication commits now signal their actual conversation. The voice reader returns at most 100 total session/action headers per refresh, preserves phase/cursor state and retries, and resets on worker registration. Current-state checks and dispatch claims still own provider effects. The 105-action case measures the page cap, restarts the same owner during reconstruction, waits at saved future deadlines and quarantines every abandoned action without resending. - A real 403 fixture proves that an older broad scan cannot erase a denied call first observed behind its cursor. Its owner callback still emits the committed restoration wake after scan completion. The existing actual-service authority-restoration and final-publication timing tests remain in the full suite. They are not replaced by direct helper calls. - Guarded removal of conversation scoping, cursor reset or the denial revision fence fails the intended budget, 100-versus-5 restart or missing committed-wake assertion; source is restored. An initial shadowed fixture name and an inadequate due-action reset probe are retained as failed attempts in the [current audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/d2c0a7de8c3e9cac8382b1268f3f5d883a2067b3/doc/plans/2026-10-25-voice-reply-delivery-sleep-audit.md#publication-inventory-and-paging-acceptance-october-28). - Parent recovery still passes paging, restart, behind-cursor insertion, feature changes, actual disablement, quiet health observations, current authority, exact-scope failure fences and wildcard-failure isolation through the shared worker. Four existing array-based worker consumers retain their API and pass their full suites. - The two voice fixtures self-migrate separate empty databases. Legacy tool-review/secrets suites use separate migrated clones. Earlier full-local attempts remain limited by embedded PostgreSQL setup and are not passing full-matrix claims. Older counts apply only to their stated revisions. Fresh exact-head Greptile, Ponytail if present, security and all CI remain merge gates. No live-provider, multi-writer, external-wake, deployed-sleep or savings claim is made. ## Risks - Missing a supported producer can strand work. Tests cover real enqueue, retrieval, normal publication, and operator publication paths. Startup reconstructs existing records. - Signals cover the process-local database owner. Independent SQL writers or other replicas need their own wake contract. - Authority restoration relies on the existing live-call recovery check. This dependency must be preserved if that owner changes later. - A provider acceptance receipt does not prove speech. Unknown outcomes remain blocked from automatic resend. - This change does not extend Cloud alarms, allow sleep during live calls, or prove deployed suspension or cost savings. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with repository inspection, reasoning, code execution and test tools. The runtime does not expose a more specific deployment identifier or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with the available version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket identifier - [x] I have run the selected tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): schedule live voice recovery from session changes and deadlines (#17576)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Voice calls retain durable session state and provider identities. > - The chat maintenance timer scans live voice sessions even when no call exists. > - Session writes, saved expiry and active-call inspection deadlines identify real work. > - This pull request moves live-session recovery to the shared coordinator. > - Idle session recovery becomes quiet without losing exact-call cleanup or current authorization checks. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17572. This PR is stacked on receiver discovery. It owns only live voice session recovery. Reply delivery, inbound admission cleanup, inbound history retention and call reports remain separate migration slices. **What happened?** The one-second chat maintenance lane reads voice settings and scans live sessions even when an instance has no calls or only terminal history. **What did you expect?** Reconstruct live calls on startup. Wake on committed session or configuration changes. Inspect active calls and retry cleanup at actual deadlines. Stop querying when no live obligation remains. **Steps to reproduce** Start an instance with no live voice sessions. Let startup settle. The old maintenance method continues to read settings and session inventory every chat maintenance pass. ## What Changed - Add a voice-owned bounded deadline reader and scoped worker on the existing coordinator. Retain concurrent writes across pages and reset partial scans on restart. No tables or migrations are added. - Separate generic connection health observations from configuration changes. Existing receiver and command consumers retain their notifications. Voice eligibility and provider operations remain in the voice owner. - Signal existing session transactions and configuration/feature changes. Keep provider calls outside database transactions. Standalone session writes use one small transaction helper. - Preserve saved expiry, the two-minute unknown-creation grace, active-call authorization and missed-hangup inspection, and exact-provider cleanup. Recovery never creates a provider call. - Retry transient authority lookup failures instead of treating them as confirmed revocation. - Fence expiration against a provider identity bound after discovery. A late known call remains eligible for cleanup. - Preserve work through rollback, drain, restart, concurrent refresh, backoff and shutdown. Page inventory and rotate bounded batches across companies. - Leave the four other voice maintenance duties in the periodic lane. - Document producer coverage and the supported writer contract in `doc/idle-voice-session-recovery.md` and the dated audit. ## Verification Published head: `f0b2e3cc22a18e7d08b10d4fc02aae4a19a52f30`. Receiver #17572 has landed in master at `dce004259394486f6361d0c0dd5a33a5272acc0a`. This normal merge reconciles squash ancestry; the complete 22-file voice recovery patch is byte-for-byte identical to the reviewed and tested `ad79c7e805` patch, while all unrelated master changes are preserved. The PR now targets master. Fresh exact-head CI and Greptile are running; interrupted Ponytail turns are not completed verdicts under the maintainer’s clarified merge policy, and an actual failing verdict still blocks. - **210 distinct targeted cases pass on the current repair**: 19 complete recovery lifecycle cases and 191 complete voice-store, coordinator, batching, startup and hostname cases. Production server typecheck and build pass. Later edits record evidence only. - CI `40633667141` on prior head `1b6323c164` failed the feature-change assertion with `34050 < 25000`; its verification aggregate also failed. The test now disables automatically advancing fake time, drives 20 controlled scheduler turns and requires all 205 calls to close before an unrelated inspection deadline can mask a lost wake. Removing generation replay fails with missing closures. The repair does not benchmark database/host speed or raise the elapsed-time bound. - A real committed exact-call regression reproduces wildcard-backoff starvation. The worker keeps the broad retry but processes independent exact hints and cached due calls. Each check reloads current state and authority. Failed exact scopes remain fenced. Removing wildcard isolation fails the intended assertion; a successful broad retry then leaves the worker SQL-quiet. Full-row and lean queries now share the state/scope/cursor predicate. - Earlier acceptance on `712f3862b5` passed 725 distinct targeted cases. Its measurements remain useful history: five real metadata writes and one health check over 205 future calls selected 1,230 rows before the inventory repair and zero afterward, without changing the saved deadline. Those older test counts are not added to the current 210-case count. - Both external voice fixtures self-migrate; the current full voice-store run uses a separate initially empty database. Earlier fixture/method/observer failures, source mutations and partial edit attempts remain in the [current audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/ad79c7e805367fc7e2df3ea53c942ca6c7d27365/doc/plans/2026-10-25-voice-maintenance-sleep-audit.md#wildcard-failure-and-deterministic-generation-acceptance-october-28). Source is restored after guarded mutations. - Older CI `40632057899` failed because its trusted policy script was absent from the checkout, while build separately received a runner shutdown signal. E2E shards succeeded but their aggregate failed on policy. The current checkout includes the landed policy tooling and its checker/tests pass locally. The shutdown cause is unproven; neither old failed run is counted as passing. Earlier full-local attempts stopped on embedded PostgreSQL setup failures and did not pass. - Fresh exact-head Greptile, security and all CI must pass before merge. A completed failing Ponytail verdict blocks; an interrupted turn without a verdict does not. No full current local repository matrix, live provider acceptance, multi-writer support, Cloud wake, host suspension or savings is claimed. ## Risks - Process-local hints cover the existing active writer and shared clients. Independent SQL writers or another replica need explicit wake integration. - Membership, task binding, phone preferences and other authority inputs remain checked on the existing 30-second active-call inspection deadline and on use. This is not an instant cleanup guarantee for every authority mutation. - Unknown creation retains its existing maximum-duration grace. Cleanup failures retain retries. A provider request is never replayed merely because its creation response is unknown. - Genuine configuration changes retain bounded reconstruction. Metadata writes can probe parent eligibility, while health-only observations leave voice recovery quiet. Paging state is process-local and reconstructs from durable rows after restart. - Active calls, the other voice maintenance owners and connector transports remain real obligations. This does not expand Cloud alarm coverage, relax sleep eligibility or prove deployed suspension. - The receiver and Discord parents have landed. Current-master compatibility and exact-head CI and Greptile remain merge gates. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 via Codex, with repository inspection, reasoning, code execution and test tools. The runtime does not expose a more specific deployment identifier or context-window size. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal ticket identifier - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): schedule Discord command registration from saved deadlines (#17557)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Chat connections register and verify provider commands in the background. > - Discord command recovery ran inside the recurring Gateway runtime scan. > - Its existing durable records already store verification and retry deadlines. > - This pull request gives command registration its own shared-coordinator worker and scoped commit notifications. > - Idle command work stops querying between real deadlines. Existing command authority and recovery remain intact. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #17554 and #17561. Both foundations have merged. This slice targets master. Runtime discovery and the other chat maintenance duties remain separate work. **What happened?** The chat runtime maintenance loop called Discord command registration on every reconciliation. It repeatedly read durable command state even when the next remote verification or retry was minutes away. **Expected behavior** Use committed producer changes and saved deadlines. Keep the existing five-minute verification policy, Retry-After, uncertain-write quarantine, namespace ownership, and credential fences. Do not add a database table for the timer. **Steps to reproduce** Configure a Discord connection and let command registration settle. In the parent revision, repeated runtime reconciliation still invokes command recovery. This revision reconstructs command deadlines at startup and removes that call from runtime reconciliation. ## What Changed - Expose normalized deadlines from the existing registration store. Park indefinite retries and invalid or foreign-owned records. Signal before store-owned claims, receipts, and retry-result writes. - Discover eligible endpoints in bounded pages. Refresh only affected endpoint, connection, or company scopes after commits. Dispatch at most 25 due commands per pass with fair company rotation. - Wire configuration, credentials, provider lifecycle/failure paths, inbound activation, generic connection mutation/removal/health, access revocation, and company deletion. - Register the worker through the chat service and shared coordinator. Preserve direct foreground setup calls. Refresh an existing local Gateway through its current owner after command work. - Preserve dirty work during drain and concurrent changes, back off unresolved attempts, and join admitted provider work during shutdown. - Document producer coverage, retained deadlines, supported writers, verification failures, and remaining runtime/Cloud obligations in `doc/idle-discord-command-registration.md` and its dated audit. ## Verification Published head: `547fdf2139144e1e6484198278bf4bb0eade8794`. It normally integrates master at `f8563d25077b17681ab6ef5949f7b07415a58ede`, including landed health #17554 and company deletion #17561. Squash ancestry caused merge conflicts; resolution applied this slice's exact 26-file owned patch from its recorded parent to pinned master. Every other path matches master. Migration 0394 and the current lockfile are preserved. - **141 distinct targeted cases pass** on reconciled production source: 78 complete command-store, batching, coordinator and startup-timing cases; 8 real automatic Discord and held-transaction Slack cases; and 55 complete startup/export and company-deletion cases. The 1,581 other chat integration cases were deselected. - Server typecheck and build pass. The company-deletion fixture self-migrates an initially empty isolated database. The two Discord fixtures use separate migrated clones; this is not a fresh-schema claim for those fixtures. Signal-listener warnings remain recorded without assertion failures. - The parent integration preserves health and command notifications at shared producer sites. It changes no provider behavior, schema or coordinator contract. Prior producer, backlog, drain/resume, malformed-hint, transaction, namespace, shutdown and retry regressions remain in the complete command suite. - [Landing compatibility acceptance](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/547fdf2139144e1e6484198278bf4bb0eade8794/doc/idle-discord-command-registration.md#acceptance-after-the-company-deletion-parent-landed-october-27) records current scope and the earlier failures. Older full-matrix or combined-stack runs apply only to their stated revisions. - Fresh exact-head Greptile, Ponytail if present and all CI are required. No full local repository suite, live provider, Cloud alarm, host suspension or savings claim is made. ## Risks - Discord still has real five-minute verification and failure-retry obligations. This does not prove host sleep or external alarm coverage. - Runtime discovery, receipt-to-runtime projection, Gateway lease renewal and persistent sockets remain separate. The remaining runtime poll can still read command receipts; it no longer invokes the command protocol. - Process-local signals cover integrated writers. Independent SQL writers and other replicas require an explicit wake contract. Existing authorization and durable ownership checks remain authoritative. - Refreshes coalesce with a 30-second minimum spacing. Saved work is never discarded because a call returned without progress. - No schema migration, new table, workflow or lockfile change is introduced by this slice. Landed parent repairs are retained. The receiver child must receive this integration before landing. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools, code execution, and reasoning. fix(server): schedule tool health from committed changes and deadlines (#17554)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI-agent work and its connected tools. > - Idle hosted instances need their database and network activity to stop. > - The maintenance tick queries tool connections even when no health check is due. > - Existing connection rows already contain eligibility and the last health observation. > - This pull request reconstructs health deadlines and refreshes them after committed changes. > - The shared coordinator preserves retries, drain, and shutdown without another private timer. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The aggregate maintenance tick scans connection health every 30 seconds. Empty instances and connections with fresh health observations still cause SQL activity. **Expected behavior** No eligible connection means no recurring health SQL. Eligible connections retain the existing 15-minute proactive check. Configuration changes and health observations update the schedule after commit. **Steps to reproduce** Start a server with heartbeat scheduling enabled and no tool connections. Let startup finish and observe two maintenance ticks. The old code repeats the health inventory query. The new startup regression verifies that those ticks do not invoke the health inventory. **Paperclip version or commit** This branch includes merged parent #17518 and master `96727b3cfefb61f85ffe1fbc29a9b6dd6837efe8`. The 47 changed paths belong to the single tool-connection health duty. No database file differs from master. Related: #14638 covers runtime-auth exclusions. #15448, #15325, and #11910 concern MCP failure classification. This PR preserves those provider policies and does not replace their work. ## What Changed - Keep the GitHub error-projection unit fixture at the health-write boundary and verify the real transaction path in the PostgreSQL health-worker suite. - Add a health schedule owned by tool access. Read lean eligibility fields and saved observation timestamps. - Register health work with the existing coordinator. Refresh only dirty connection/application/company scopes using bounded inventory pages, check due connections in fair company batches, continue concrete due backlog after one second, and retain failures with backoff. - Notify before supported eligibility and observation writes in their owning transactions. Cover API/gallery setup, OAuth, catalog/gateway observations, email, voice, access removal, deletion, and settings. - Commit connection creation with grant, binding, and runtime-slot SQL before its wake. Keep provider calls outside the new transactions. - Keep provider-to-transport mapping in the chat catalog. SDK-only chat changes do not wake health work. - Replace aggregate health scans, retain the public manual sweep, and document the producer audit and remaining sleep limits. - Keep metadata-only example and Smoke Lab installs scoped. Lock and re-read application type before publishing a real eligibility change. - Keep failed inventory reads on their own retry deadline while healthy due batches continue. - Apply fixture migrations before using external disposable databases in all six producer suites. ## Verification Published head: `8c1d293d1ae2b7db753ab20f5a2a2edec1fb0a62`. Fresh CI and reviews are required for this exact head. - **623 distinct targeted cases pass.** The final four complete health, fair-batching, GitHub health recovery, and startup suites pass 80 cases after the retry fix. Five complete producer suites pass 543 cases: tool access 469, access 18, email 45, GitHub events four, and Smoke Lab seven. The earlier 26 health cases are part of this total, not additional cases. - The six producer suites first passed against separate, initially empty PostgreSQL 17 databases at `acbf262843`. They apply their own migrations. The subsequent repair changes only the health worker and its regression; its complete final consumer suites pass on that integrated parent. Server typecheck and build pass with the final repair. - **Installer amplification:** five real installs with 205 unrelated connections reproduced 1,035 example rows and 1,045 Smoke Lab rows. Repeated metadata installs now load only changed fixture connections. The same cases restore an excluded application through each installer and require all 205 unrelated IDs to re-enter the schedule. - **Concurrent eligibility:** a real PostgreSQL lock-wait case requires the installer to notify after a concurrent type change. A mutation that retains the lock but uses the old lookup fails the settled-hint assertion; original source was restored byte for byte. - **Retry isolation:** the failing baseline read one unavailable company three times while another company's 60 due checks drained. Final tests require one initial read, at least 30 seconds between failed reads, prompt healthy progress, eventual recovery, and SQL quiet after settlement. - Real-service producer coverage includes AgentMail activation/pause, GitHub installation changes, and member access removal. Lifecycle coverage includes outer commit/rollback, startup reconstruction, drain/resume, failure, and shutdown. - Failure history and exact evidence scope: [health acceptance](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/8c1d293d1ae2b7db753ab20f5a2a2edec1fb0a62/doc/idle-tool-connection-health.md#acceptance-follow-up-after-the-plugin-parent-merged-october-27), [producer audit](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/blob/8c1d293d1ae2b7db753ab20f5a2a2edec1fb0a62/doc/plans/2026-10-24-tool-connection-health-sleep-audit.md). Prior remote failures and earlier 706-case evidence remain historical. Startup tests emitted listener-count warnings; all assertions passed. No full local repository-suite, deployed sleep, fleet savings, or live provider qualification claim is made. ## Risks - Supported live writers must use the transaction signals. Independent SQL writers and other replicas need their own wake integration. - Configured eligible connections still have a real proactive health obligation. This does not prove Cloud alarm coverage or host/database suspension. - Existing manual probes and catalog operations can overlap. This migration does not introduce a credential-version CAS or change provider failure policy. - Voice remains eligible under the previous health policy. Its generic probe can still report an unsupported transport; changing that behavior is separate work. - No database migration, new table, workflow, or lockfile change. This PR includes its merged parent and current inspected master; later stack PRs and all current-head acceptance gates remain separate. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6 family, with repository tools, code execution, and reasoning. The exact serving version and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(auth): batch current run history read decisions (#17569)
Reuse the existing authorization batch owner for current run-history read decisions after company-scoped existence checks. Preserve missing-task denial, per-request freshness, and the decide-only adapter path. Validation: 97 focused tests, full build and repository typecheck. A real PostgreSQL fixture returns identical decisions with 4 queries instead of 327; the original path fails the query-bound regression. Exact-head Greptile 5/5 (medium), all CI checks green, and no unresolved comments. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(plugins): invalidate runtimes when connector access changes (#16605)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Runtime preparation depends on access and credential state as well as tool definitions. > - Grant, membership, secret, and endpoint changes need committed invalidation. > - Their writers must acquire locks before journal fanout can lock agent rows. > - This pull request adds access hooks with the corresponding transaction guards. > - Plugins can refresh preparation immediately while task-time authorization remains authoritative. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Grant changes, credential rotation and revocation, company access changes, and connector endpoint configuration do not request runtime synchronization. Journal fanout exposes lock inversions between credential persistence, access cleanup, and connection assignment writers. **Expected behavior** Committed access changes request runtime preparation without polling or credential values in the journal. Agent-specific secret bindings and new personal delegations affect their target agent. Company access changes remain conservative. Provider bookkeeping does not create preparation work. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Change an audience, delegation, membership permission, referenced credential, vault configuration, or endpoint instruction. 2. Expect a committed runtime event in the correct company and scope. 3. Run reconnect, credential refresh, SSH setup, or membership cleanup concurrently with related writes. 4. Expect both operations to preserve access checks and finish without a lock-order cycle. **Additional context** Final feature extraction from #16503. The earlier slices, #16604, and the separate delivery-test correction #16871 are merged. This PR is now the active change against master. The rebase preserves the merged assignment and definition recipient rules, Unicode selector semantics, and profile/reference transaction guards. ## What Changed - Add migration 0356 for grants, audiences, delegation, membership/permissions, secret bindings, referenced credentials and vaults, and chat/email endpoint configuration. - Keep events content-free. Ignore health, delivery, publication, Vercel verification, and GitHub webhook bookkeeping while retaining credential and repository-access changes. - Target agent secret bindings and all personal delegation changes to their old and new target agents. Coalesce delegation changes per transaction. - Lock existing grants before connections and credential persistence in OAuth and cleanup writers. - Reject superseded refresh leases before rotating stored credentials. Ignore lease acquisition and release when access metadata is unchanged. - Serialize audience replacement, validate membership, and preserve unchanged audiences. - Lock membership before permission-only saves and grant before Railway SSH setup. Individual delegation revocation locks its grant and target. Whole-grant and membership cleanup lock company recipients before deleting scoped delegations. - Lock grants and connection inputs before static-key reconnect writes. Lock company agents before cascading secret deletion; use a nonblocking secret lock and bounded retries to avoid a new cycle with credential writers. - Add PostgreSQL concurrency coverage for access writers and endpoint publication/configuration behavior. - Preserve the owner lock for plugin instance-secret removal; these secrets cannot use ordinary bindings. - Align Slack search refresh, callbacks, and disconnect with grant-before-connection locking. Recheck newly discovered grants without waiting before provider work. - Retry complete membership transactions when a credential deletion candidate is busy. Cover all four cleanup entry points and process company access in ID order. - Document final invalidation coverage and task-time authorization boundaries. ## Verification - Current head: `78aace55bef7f52bc5742b131e0b3961eb5c0f11`. All 1,061 tests across 23 affected suites pass. The named Slack authorization integration scenario also passes; it exercises authorization, refresh, disconnect, and rejection of a late callback. Server/database typechecks, migration safety and numbering, five-snapshot retention, feature maps, and diff checks pass. The complete PR diff was reviewed for secrets and personal data before push. Final acceptance: [CI run 39308303837, attempt 2](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39308303837) is green, with 55 successful checks and two optional Storybook skips. The current-head Greptile reassessment returned **Apex 5/5** at 19:16 UTC on 2026-10-19. Its full summary reports no actionable issues. Security passed, all threads are resolved, and GitHub reports no merge conflicts. The reassessment was requested as a standard review after the fixes; Greptile retained the Apex tier. - On this head, [CI run 39308303837](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39308303837) failed the unchanged adapter-utils HTTP/2 fixture with `EADDRINUSE` before READY. Its closed probe left a port handoff race. That test and its gateway are byte-identical on master. No upstream fix was found. The deterministic fixture correction is isolated in #16888; no adapter test changes are included here. The failed jobs recovered on retry without a feature source change. The original failure remains documented here, and #16888 carries the fixture correction separately. That retry demonstrates recovery; the held-probe negative control establishes the port handoff race. - Rebased onto master `194fc11406`, including merged #16604 and #16871. Replayed only the access-hook commit. Resolved OAuth, test, and documentation conflicts while retaining both sets of tests. Migration 0356 preserves the merged assignment/definition recipient rules, Unicode selector semantics, and profile/reference guards. - Apex returned 3/5 on `0fb65bc27`. Negative controls reproduce its Slack delegation and member-cleanup deadlocks (`40P01`) and unwanted Vercel/GitHub bookkeeping events. Slack grant writers now take their locks before the connection. A separate late-grant control reproduces `40P01` without the post-lock recheck; the complete guard passes. All four membership cleanup commands retry from a fresh transaction when the credential is busy. Tests verify successful cleanup and no journal rows from failed attempts. Credential IDs and repository-access changes still notify runtimes. - Earlier review corrections remain covered: static-key reconnect and cascading secret removal each reproduce `40P01` without their guards. Grant lease acquisition/release is ignored. Secret removal releases agent locks when a credential writer is busy. Instance-secret removal retains the owner lock and passes its public plugin API contention regression. Delegation updates and revocations target old/new agents; unrelated-peer, coalescing, unchanged-update, and rollback cases pass. Three negative controls verify the required whole-grant and membership cleanup guards after narrowing delegation scope. - Preserve prior acceptance failures: the first rebased 20-suite run passed 1,025/1,026; its only failure was a draft uninstall fixture blocking a random peer. Blocking the assigned agent corrected that assumption, and all 44 access/assignment tests passed. Later, all 1,044 tests across 21 suites, [CI run 39302185527](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/39302185527), standard Greptile 5/5, and security passed on `0fb65bc27`. That did not clear the later Apex findings described above. Draft run 38975428081 failed a server shard; its cause was not re-investigated. A later green run does not establish that earlier cause. - Local fixture corrections are recorded separately from product failures: an assignment filename filter initially matched no file; the actual suite was included in full runs. A delegation fixture omitted its required creator, and a guard run omitted a query import. The new global-access cleanup fixture now uses its own user to avoid earlier fixtures' memberships. All were corrected before publishing their final iterations. - Local checks target affected services and real PostgreSQL boundaries. A full local build and repository-wide test run were not performed. Hosted CI supplies broader verification. Provider responses in tests are controlled; live provider behavior was not qualified. ## Risks Migration 0356 adds triggers without changing table schema. Apply it through the normal migration flow. Most access changes retain synchronous company-wide invalidation. Company fanout takes O(eligible company agents) locks and journal rows, without a fanout ceiling or mutation quota. Agent secret bindings and individual delegation changes retain narrower recipients. Events contain no credentials. Physical removal of non-instance secrets takes ordered locks on all company agents before cascading into bindings. This costs O(company agents) locks even for an otherwise unreferenced secret. Instance secrets cannot use ordinary bindings and retain their owner lock. A busy secret lock releases the transaction guards and retries up to three times. Continued contention returns a retryable conflict. Provider deletion stays outside that transaction; a retry resumes removal of an already disabled secret. Membership cleanup uses nonblocking credential guards and retries the full membership transaction. Slack search adds two grant queries, scoped to the subject and connection. Its retries occur before provider work or credential persistence. Each retry loop is limited to three attempts. Invalidation requests preparation; task-time authorization and provider session activation remain authoritative. Provider calls use fixtures; no live provider qualification is claimed. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and testing. fix(runner): settle accepted results after shutdown failures (#15217)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and the tasks they perform. > - The native runner saves tool results and completion reports before it releases a session. > - Large project discovery responses can exceed the durable command limit. > - A shutdown failure can leave a saved answer waiting for workspace repair. > - Recovery reused the old assessment for a different status decision, which violated a database constraint. > - This pull request bounds discovery responses and lets recovery commit the saved result after workspace repair. > - The benefit is a task that reaches its correct final status without another provider turn. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** A native run can save its final answer, fail during shutdown, and leave the task In Progress after workspace repair succeeds. Reconciliation tries to reuse the failed-workspace assessment for a new decision. The one-decision-per-assessment constraint rejects the write. Replaying the old decision can also retain a fresh coordinator lease. Separately, retained session cleanup only recognizes the old `adapter_failed` label. The project-list tool returns full project records, including large descriptions and workspace configuration. A large response exceeds the runner's durable command limit. The settlement diagnostic previously recorded only a failure flag. **Expected behavior** Project discovery stays within the command limit. Recovery finishes the saved result after workspace repair, releases its lease, and preserves the original error for inspection. It does not repeat provider work or relax session ownership checks. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Return large project records from `list_projects` and observe an oversized semantic result. 2. Persist an accepted native completion result, then record a shutdown failure. 3. Finalize with a failed workspace, repeat that attempt, then record successful workspace repair. 4. Reconcile the run. Before this fix, the issue stays In Progress. **Paperclip version or commit** Reproduced on `a386a599983519eb1d399f8b770bfccdb2a74762`. **Deployment mode** Self-hosted server with Paperclip Runner. Related transport work: #12208 drains queued events; #12241 resumes interrupted semantic calls. This change addresses bounded project discovery and accepted-result finalization. ## What Changed - Read bounded project summary projections from the database and return at most 50 authorized summaries with a continuation cursor and explicit description truncation. Agent and run trust boundaries narrow the database candidates; project-specific policies still receive full authorization. Only visible projects determine continuations. The default project-list API remains unchanged. - Record bounded, content-free settlement failure causes for command limits, storage errors, and rejected dispatch. - Include workspace state in assessment identity. Preserve the initial assessment for interrupted finalization, and commit replacement assessment and decision references together. - Release the coordinator lease when an existing decision is replayed, without repeating its effects. - Clear stale errors when recovery succeeds and retain them in `recoveredExecutionFailure`. - Accept both current and legacy close-failure labels in the existing exact-state cleanup path. - Add regression tests and update the tool contracts and recovery documentation. ## Verification - Red: the new project paging, settlement diagnostic, current cleanup label, and repaired-workspace regressions failed on the original implementation. - Green: protocol/catalog/tool checks (117 tests), the full project-tool and finalizer suites (47 tests), cleanup ownership cases (70 tests), and cleanup sweep cases (4 tests) pass. Database-backed pagination covers large descriptions/configuration, complete enumeration, uppercase cursors, agent/run restrictions, project-policy scope contributions, and identical results/cursors when hidden projects are added. - The initial CI failures in interrupted Board waits, contended endpoint proof, and semantic schema validation were reproduced and fixed; all affected cases pass locally. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — started before the review corrections; it spanned several source revisions and was stopped after reporting old-behavior and timing failures. It is not claimed green. Fresh project and recovery suites pass; the recovery suite also passes all 25 cases with the broad runner’s isolated home/config. The Slack timing case passed in isolation. Latest-head CI is the authoritative complete test matrix. - Existing authorization suite — 66 tests passed. - Latest-head CI on `8e5763d915aa6f375bdab6601996899ea01496fc` — 55 checks passed, 4 intentionally skipped, no pending or failing checks. - Greptile — 5/5, zero unresolved threads on the same commit. - `git diff --check` — passed. ## Risks - `list_projects` now returns summaries. Callers must follow `nextCursor` and use the authorized project API for full records. Candidate narrowing is only an optimization: project policy and responsible-user authorization remain authoritative. - Assessment identity changes for workspace finalization. Existing evidence remains intact; no migration is needed. - Cleanup still requires matching identities, settled tool evidence, and verified process ownership. Unknown tool outcomes remain blocked from session reuse. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, based on GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and GitHub tools. The exact serving model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(apps): add connection grants and delegated identities (#12341)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - External tools need explicit identity and access boundaries. > - Shared connection credentials cannot represent every user-scoped use case. > - Grants must stay company-scoped and support safe delegation. > - This pull request adds connection grants, identity rules, and their database contract. > - The benefit is durable control over which identity an agent may use. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 3 of 11. It depends on stack 2 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add company and user connection grants. - Add delegated identity and membership rules. - Synchronize database, shared, server, and UI contracts. - Register the grant-member replacement route in the OpenAPI surface in the same layer that mounts it. - Add migration 0231 with replay-safe guards and coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/openapi-routes.test.ts` (5 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db check:migrations` - `pnpm build` ## Risks - Incorrect grant selection could expose the wrong credential scope. - The service enforces company and subject boundaries before credential use. - Migration 0231 is generated, ordered after 0230, and safe to replay. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. [codex] prevent invalid agents from receiving assignments and runs (#7663)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The control plane owns agent lifecycle, issue assignment, routine dispatch, heartbeat wakeups, and recovery paths > - Terminated, paused, pending-approval, or otherwise invalid agents should not receive new work or new execution attempts > - The old behavior left eligibility checks spread across routes and services, so assignment and run paths could drift apart > - This pull request centralizes agent lifecycle eligibility and applies it consistently to assignment, invocation, routines, recovery, and UI affordances > - The benefit is safer autonomy: terminated agents stay paused, invalid org-chain agents are surfaced, and active agents keep receiving valid work ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #5103 Related: #1864 Bug fix context: - What happened: agent assignment and heartbeat/run paths did not share one eligibility contract, so invalid lifecycle states could still be considered in some paths. - Expected behavior: terminated agents must never receive new assignments or heartbeat runs, and paused or otherwise invalid agents should be treated as non-invokable consistently. - Steps to reproduce: create or select an agent in an invalid lifecycle state, then attempt assignment, routine dispatch, or heartbeat/recovery wake paths. - Paperclip version/commit: fixed on top of `paperclipai/paperclip` `master` at the PR base. - Deployment mode: applies to the server control plane in local and authenticated deployments. ## What Changed - Added shared agent lifecycle eligibility helpers and exported the related shared types. - Centralized server-side assignability and invokability checks for issue assignment, agent routes, heartbeat dispatch, routines, recovery, and liveness logic. - Hardened issue assignment so invalid assignees are rejected instead of queued for work. - Hardened heartbeat/routine/recovery paths so terminated and otherwise invalid agents are not woken for new runs. - Updated board UI affordances to disable invalid agent actions and surface org-chain warnings where relevant. - Added targeted shared, server, and UI tests for the new eligibility behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/agent-eligibility.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-invokability.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-archived-company-guard.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-liveness.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts ui/src/lib/company-members.test.ts ui/src/pages/Agents.test.tsx` — 8 files, 144 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` — passed. - Checked the PR diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows` changes. - Checked `ROADMAP.md`; this is a targeted control-plane safety fix and does not duplicate a planned core feature. - Searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs/issues; closest related items are linked above. - CI and Greptile verification are pending on the opened PR and will be followed up before requesting merge. ## Risks Low to moderate risk. The intended behavioral shift is that invalid agents are refused earlier and more consistently, which could expose existing data with paused, pending, terminated, or broken org-chain assignees. The added tests cover the critical assignment, heartbeat, routine, recovery, shared helper, and UI paths. [codex] Add agent permissions and controls plan (#6386)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip orchestrates AI agents for zero-human companies by keeping task ownership, approvals, and operator control inside one control plane. > - Agent permissions and plugin-hosted company settings sit on the boundary between autonomy and governance. > - V1 needs scoped task assignment rules, plugin extension points, and clearer company access surfaces without weakening company boundaries. > - The branch builds the core authorization service, plugin SDK/host APIs, and UI simplifications needed to support those controls. > - Paperclip EE plugin surfaces were intentionally moved out of this core PR per review direction, so this PR now carries only the public core/plugin infrastructure work. > - The latest updates preserve the PAP-9937 branch changes that belong in this PR, remove the `design/` artifacts, and exclude the experimental `plugin-briefs` package. > - Greptile feedback was applied through the authorization/audit paths and the final cleanup commit was re-reviewed at 5/5 with no unresolved Greptile threads. > - The benefit is safer assignment control with extension hooks for richer permission products while preserving simple defaults for normal operators. ## What Changed - Added scoped task-assignment authorization decisions and routed issue/agent assignment mutations through the authorization service. - Added plugin SDK and host APIs for company settings slots, authorization policy/grant management, assignment previews, and bridge invocation scope propagation. - Simplified core company access UI and moved advanced controls behind plugin-provided settings surfaces. - Added retry-now affordances for blocked issue next-step notices. - Added protected-assignment enforcement for persisted agent/project/issue policies, including explicit-grant fallback behavior. - Added incremental principal-access compatibility backfill for active agent memberships and role-default human permission grants. - Added the Markdown code block wrap action fix from the latest branch changes. - Removed `design/` artifacts from the PR and removed `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs` from the final diff. - Addressed Greptile feedback for plugin actor sanitization, legacy membership handling, audit pagination, unknown grant-scope metadata, and startup test mocks. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 2 files passed, 54 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/company-portability.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 62 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authorization-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-access-authorization-host-services.test.ts server/src/__tests__/server-startup-feedback-export.test.ts` -> 3 files passed, 28 tests passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` -> passed. - `git diff --check` -> passed. - `node ./scripts/check-docker-deps-stage.mjs` -> passed. - `CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` -> passed with no lockfile update. - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/components/MarkdownBody.interaction.test.tsx` -> 1 test passed. - `git ls-files design packages/plugins/plugin-briefs | wc -l` -> 0. - GitHub CI on `40cd83b53` -> all checks passed, merge state `CLEAN`. - Greptile on `40cd83b53` -> 5/5, 102 files reviewed, 0 comments/annotations added, 0 unresolved review threads. - Confirmed the PR diff contains no `design/`, `packages/plugins/plugin-briefs`, `pnpm-lock.yaml`, or `.github/workflows` changes. ## Risks - Medium: task assignment authorization paths are behaviorally stricter for protected/private policy data, so existing plugin-authored policies may block assignment until explicit grants or approval flows are configured. - Medium: plugin-host authorization APIs expand the surface area available to trusted plugins and need careful review for company scoping. - Low: startup now performs a principal-access compatibility backfill, but the migration and runtime backfill use conflict-tolerant inserts. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5 coding agent, tool-enabled workflow with shell, git, and GitHub CLI access. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

[codex] Add access cleanup and user profile page (#4088)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is moving from a solo local operator model toward teams supervising AI-agent companies. > - Human access management and human-visible profile surfaces are part of that multiple-user path. > - The branch included related access cleanup, archived-member removal, permission protection, and a user profile page. > - These changes share company membership, user attribution, and access-service behavior. > - This pull request groups those human access/profile changes into one standalone branch. > - The benefit is safer member removal behavior and a first profile surface for user work, activity, and cost attribution. ## What Changed - Added archived company member removal support across shared contracts, server routes/services, and UI. - Protected company member removal with stricter permission checks and tests. - Added company user profile API, shared types, route wiring, client API, route, and UI page. - Simplified the user profile page visual design to a neutral typography-led layout. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/access-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/user-profile-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyAccess.test.tsx --hookTimeout=30000` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/user-profile-routes.test.ts --testTimeout=30000 --hookTimeout=30000` after an initial local embedded-Postgres hook timeout in the combined run. - Split integration check: merged after runtime/governance and dev-infra/backups with no merge conflicts. - Confirmed this branch does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml`. ## Risks - Medium risk: changes member removal permissions and adds a new user profile route with cross-table stats. - The profile page is a new UI surface and may need visual follow-up in browser QA. - No database migrations are included. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5.4 tool-enabled coding model, agentic code-editing/runtime with local shell and GitHub CLI access; exact context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the Paperclip harness. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: implement multi-user access and invite flows (#3784)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies. > - V1 needs to stay local-first while also supporting shared, authenticated deployments. > - Human operators need real identities, company membership, invite flows, profile surfaces, and company-scoped access controls. > - Agents and operators also need the existing issue, inbox, workspace, approval, and plugin flows to keep working under those authenticated boundaries. > - This branch accumulated the multi-user implementation, follow-up QA fixes, workspace/runtime refinements, invite UX improvements, release-branch conflict resolution, and review hardening. > - This pull request consolidates that branch onto the current `master` branch as a single reviewable PR. > - The benefit is a complete multi-user implementation path with tests and docs carried forward without dropping existing branch work. ## What Changed - Added authenticated human-user access surfaces: auth/session routes, company user directory, profile settings, company access/member management, join requests, and invite management. - Added invite creation, invite landing, onboarding, logo/branding, invite grants, deduped join requests, and authenticated multi-user E2E coverage. - Tightened company-scoped and instance-admin authorization across board, plugin, adapter, access, issue, and workspace routes. - Added profile-image URL validation hardening, avatar preservation on name-only profile updates, and join-request uniqueness migration cleanup for pending human requests. - Added an atomic member role/status/grants update path so Company Access saves no longer leave partially updated permissions. - Improved issue chat, inbox, assignee identity rendering, sidebar/account/company navigation, workspace routing, and execution workspace reuse behavior for multi-user operation. - Added and updated server/UI tests covering auth, invites, membership, issue workspace inheritance, plugin authz, inbox/chat behavior, and multi-user flows. - Merged current `public-gh/master` into this branch, resolved all conflicts, and verified no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is included in this PR diff. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issues-service.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueChatThread.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx` - `pnpm run preflight:workspace-links && pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-routes-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime-service-authz.test.ts server/src/__tests__/access-validators.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/authz-company-access.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/sidebar-preferences-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/approval-routes-idempotency.test.ts server/src/__tests__/openclaw-invite-prompt-route.test.ts server/src/__tests__/agent-cross-tenant-authz-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-e2e.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/auth-routes.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyAccess.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck && pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm db:generate` - `npx playwright test --config tests/e2e/playwright.config.ts --list` - Confirmed branch has no uncommitted changes and is `0` commits behind `public-gh/master` before PR creation. - Confirmed no `pnpm-lock.yaml` change is staged or present in the PR diff. ## Risks - High review surface area: this PR contains the accumulated multi-user branch plus follow-up fixes, so reviewers should focus especially on company-boundary enforcement and authenticated-vs-local deployment behavior. - UI behavior changed across invites, inbox, issue chat, access settings, and sidebar navigation; no browser screenshots are included in this branch-consolidation PR. - Plugin install, upgrade, and lifecycle/config mutations now require instance-admin access, which is intentional but may change expectations for non-admin board users. - A join-request dedupe migration rejects duplicate pending human requests before creating unique indexes; deployments with unusual historical duplicates should review the migration behavior. - Company member role/status/grant saves now use a new combined endpoint; older separate endpoints remain for compatibility. - Full production build was not run locally in this heartbeat; CI should cover the full matrix. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex coding agent, GPT-5-based model, CLI/tool-use environment. Exact deployed model identifier and context window were not exposed by the runtime. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] If this change affects the UI, I have included before/after screenshots - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Note on screenshots: this is a branch-consolidation PR for an already-developed multi-user branch, and no browser screenshots were captured during this heartbeat. --------- Co-authored-by: dotta <dotta@example.com> Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(server): integrate Better Auth, access control, and deployment mode startup
Wire up Better Auth for session-based authentication. Add actor middleware that resolves local_trusted mode to an implicit board actor and authenticated mode to Better Auth sessions. Add access service with membership, permission, invite, and join-request management. Register access routes for member/invite/ join-request CRUD. Update health endpoint to report deployment mode and bootstrap status. Enforce tasks:assign and agents:create permissions in issue and agent routes. Add deployment mode validation at startup with guardrails (loopback-only for local_trusted, auth config required for authenticated). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
