feat(connections): add experimental task-pinned AI routing (#14967)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their work. > - AI Connections separate account access from models and harnesses. > - A pool must act as one connection while retaining each task’s account. > - Core must enforce member access and preserve session and recovery rules. > - A plugin supplies rotation policy without receiving credentials. > - This change adds durable routing and native connector setup and management. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** AI Connections, Connectors, plugins, run dispatch, and session compatibility. **Problem or motivation** Operators need to rotate new tasks across saved accounts while each task keeps its account and session. Pool setup must fit the existing connector catalog and account workflow. **Proposed solution** Add an experimental router binding, a capability-gated plugin hook, and transactional task pins. Plugins declare native pooled connectors through `aiConnectionRouter`. Core hosts the existing-account picker, ordering step, and account settings. Related usage contract: #14936. Companion private plugin: https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip-cloud/pull/643. **Roadmap alignment** This extends Apps and AI Connections. Core supplies generic enforcement and native connector UI; the private plugin owns rotation and quota policy. The prior duplicate search found no matching router implementation. ## What Changed - Add a router binding without changing existing concrete bindings. Keep the instance flag and new pools disabled by default. Require manual operator configuration. Show no routing toggle in Experimental settings on either open-source or Cloud installs, even after routing is enabled. - Persist company-scoped pools, one shared cursor per pool, and pins keyed by company, pool, agent, and task. Commit pins and cursor advances together with revision checks and bounded retries. Persist run-ID affinity before allocation. - Pass only authorized metadata and normalized usage to plugins. Core retains credential handling, member access checks, runtime qualification, and recovery evidence. Probe outside locks with a shared 15-second budget and freshness cache. - Resolve routing before credential preparation and backend selection. Preserve pins through turns, session resets, removed members, and quota waits. Retain admitted recovery after disable or uninstall. - Separate credential session epochs from token generations. Verified refresh preserves the epoch; reconnect and manual replacement change it. Include the credential slot ID in session and usage-cache identity, so reconnecting an indexed legacy account invalidates its old session even when both epochs are zero. - Validate pool member installations before accepting saved-agent bindings and recheck compatibility when the harness changes. Install only authorized members in the new-agent transaction and record their IDs in local activity. Pool membership cannot install a restricted shared connection. - Preserve pool bindings when agents hire teammates through either creation API or native caller runtime inheritance. Block stale manager credential references; retain explicit child authentication precedence and reject incompatible inherited pools. - Add native connector registration through plugin metadata. Reuse the Connectors catalog, setup header, account header, sidebar, dialogs, and usage display. Setup selects and orders saved connections. Advanced settings hold usage rules and member runtime defaults. New-account setup opens in another tab. - Use revision-checked pool archival from the Connectors catalog and account page. Keep task pins, cursors, recovery evidence, and underlying connections. Reject ordinary connection updates or removals that bypass pool revisions. - Add pool selectors, composer models, override notes, quota status, run details, activity records, and local run-log records. Keep session-adoption copy minimal. - Show **Used by** below the pool connections. List current company agents with shared avatars and profile links. Include paused agents; exclude terminated agents and agents using another pool. - Add Core stories for the generic connector workflow and runtime surfaces. Cloud stories reuse these production routes and tokens through a preview-only alias. ## Verification - Final head `73cb953bca30ed83e4505dd820edd9b5edffd28b`: full workspace `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm check:token-gates` pass locally. - All 422 focused connector/settings/shared-contract/migration tests and all 156 database-backed AI connection, hiring, reconnect, and durable-routing cases pass (69 hiring cases rerun after the final auth-precedence fix). The merged shared contract retains connection instructions and pool metadata. The pool migration is generated at sequence 0299 after the latest upstream migrations; this PR makes no lockfile changes. - All four full-app Playwright tests pass on the final head after a cold restart and migration, against the installed private plugin and isolated database, with no route or pool-API mocks. They cover hidden routing controls after manual opt-in, native pool creation, ordering, membership edits, rename, paused defaults, enabling/save/refresh persistence, stale edits, cancellation/removal, preserved underlying accounts, unavailable routers, and Used by avatars and profile links. Exact command: `PAPERCLIP_CONNECTION_POOL_E2E=1 AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_COMPANY_ID=a37b9625-5ecf-4e29-8081-04df3d6e7d6f AI_CONNECTIONS_TEST_URL=http://127.0.0.1:3108 pnpm exec playwright test --config tests/ai-connections-app/playwright.config.ts connection-pools.spec.ts`. - [Native setup, ordering, and management screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-6006976278) address the review follow-up. [Earlier selector, quota, and run-detail screenshots](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/14967#issuecomment-5971537316) show the runtime surfaces. Core previews: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui storybook`, then **Connectors / Pool host** or **AI Connections / Connection pools**. Cloud owns its host-backed plugin stories; both repositories’ Operator Setup Required story assertions pass. - Live acceptance used OpenAI/Codex and Anthropic/Claude ACPX, resumed both exact sessions after restart, preserved pinned accounts through explicit reset and controlled quota deferral/recovery, and committed only two allocations across fourteen runs. A later UI-created task test again rotated OpenAI then Anthropic and resumed OpenAI through follow-up/restart/quota recovery. That later Anthropic execution was blocked by its saved OAuth token expiring (provider 401). No live usage probes ran. - The full local `pnpm test:run` was attempted earlier and did not complete because of macOS embedded PostgreSQL bootstrap/shared-memory failures and the 40,000-file Git fixture timeout. The focused database suites above now pass; full-suite verification is provided by the split CI lanes. The preceding CI run had one runtime readiness timeout; it passes locally both alone and inside the larger runtime suite. That larger local suite also encountered an embedded PostgreSQL setup failure and two macOS temporary-path alias assertions; those two assertions pass with canonical TMPDIR=/private/tmp. All final-head CI checks are terminal green, including full general/serialized server suites, Runner checks, browser E2E shards, canary verification, build, and typecheck. Greptile is 5/5 on that exact head with no unresolved threads. ## Risks - The migration adds routing tables and a credential epoch column. Install the private plugin only with the compatible Core contract. - Routing and each pool require opt-in. Production distribution and fleet defaults remain unchanged. - Unknown usage stays eligible. Known pinned exhaustion waits; revoked access requires operator repair. - Legacy adapters require compatible members. Runner model and effort overrides remain limited by qualified backend support. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository editing, code execution, and browser testing. The exact deployment model ID and context window are not exposed in this session. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes:` / `Closes:` / `Refs:` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass (targeted suites; full-suite limitations are reported above) - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(interactions): derive question storage from canonical forms (#14946)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents request human input through durable issue interactions. > - A question form has a canonical presentation and a compatibility storage format. > - The creation API required agents to write both formats. > - Tool guidance told agents to split text and choice questions across those formats. > - This pull request accepts one complete canonical form and derives storage fields on the server. > - The benefit is a complete question card with stable answer and retry behavior. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related work: Refs #13630 and #14430. PR #13630 addresses the display of historical partial forms. This change fixes creation and keeps the check that rejects conflicting new forms. **What happened?** A question save supplied three compatibility questions and one canonical text question. The API correctly rejected the incomplete canonical form. The Runner's tool description encouraged this split. Sending only a complete canonical form also failed because the API required compatibility questions. **Expected behavior** An agent sends one complete `payload.questionSet` with every text and choice question. Paperclip derives `payload.questions` for storage and answer compatibility. Existing legacy requests remain valid. Explicitly conflicting dual forms remain invalid. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Call `paperclip_request_human_input` with `interactionKind: "questions"`. 2. Send `payload: { version: 1, questionSet: ... }` with a required text question and a required choice question. 3. The old API rejects the missing compatibility questions. With this change, it stores both questions and preserves the canonical form. 4. Retry with the same idempotency key. Confirm that only one interaction exists. 5. Submit both answers. Confirm that the normal resolver and continuation rules apply. **Paperclip version or commit** The branch is based on `cf8ad63c8`. The problem affects the native Runner and the interaction creation API. **Deployment mode** Server deployment with the native Paperclip Runner. Integration tests use the real interaction service and an embedded test database. ## What Changed - Add one shared canonical-to-storage projection. Reuse it for native harness question requests. - Accept canonical-only question creation at the shared validator and server boundary. - Export the input type and update the plugin SDK and its RPC contract. - Advertise a typed, complete question form in the live and scenario tool schemas. - Enforce canonical text and custom-answer constraints before ordinary or native resolution. Preserve harmless display whitespace. - Run regex matching in isolated workers with a deadline and resource limits. Both answer paths await the result before persistence. Saved native delivery uses the validated answer without taking another worker slot. - Update agent guidance and generated Runner contracts. - Test mixed forms, option-ID collisions, retries, answers, legacy requests, and conflicting forms. ## Verification - Interaction service, HTTP route, native bridge, and Runner authority suites: 221 tests passed after correcting an obsolete tool-description assertion. - Shared validator, plugin SDK, CLI, and UI compatibility suites: 67 tests passed. - Runner core tool-contract suite: 20 tests passed. AJV validates live and scenario schemas. - Final review regressions: 172 shared, service, native bridge, and authority tests passed. These cover text length, pattern, numeric limits, whitespace, custom option IDs, and historical pending cards. - Runner session suites: 67 tests passed. Published example tests: 4 tests passed. - Server typecheck and the shared/server builds passed after the compatibility fixes. - Final delivery verification: 35 response-delivery tests passed. The native delivery regression proves saved answers do not enter pattern workers; server typecheck and build passed. - Pattern security and answer-flow verification: 205 tests passed after repairing the child fixture loader. These cover pathological matching, event-loop responsiveness, worker concurrency, slot cleanup, HTTP routes, native delivery, and the full helper in a child process. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed on the bounded-worker revision. - `pnpm build` passed on the bounded-worker revision. - All 55 GitHub checks passed on `fe457af`; four optional jobs were skipped. An unchanged Cursor adapter test timed out once in CI, passed locally, and passed on one failed-job rerun. - Reviewers can send the canonical-only mixed form above and verify that the saved interaction contains both canonical and compatibility questions. ## Risks - The creation API accepts a new input shape. Stored rows and answer contracts keep the existing shape. - The shared projection must preserve synthetic free-text option IDs. Collision and native round-trip tests cover this behavior. - Historical partial rows remain readable. New conflicting dual forms, including written-answer mismatches, remain rejected. - Existing pending cards retain the written-answer paths offered by their stored options. Canonical text constraints still apply. - Ordinary answers now enforce declared canonical constraints before persistence. Invalid answers leave the card pending. - Regex validation has a one-second deadline and a four-worker capacity limit. A complex pattern or capacity error leaves the card pending with a validation error. - No database migration or change to company authorization is required. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex. The session exposes the GPT-6 model family; its exact runtime model identifier and context window size are not exposed. Used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(runtime): finalize and recover sandbox workspace exports safely (#14402)
Serialize native workspace finalization, validate streamed archives within bounded limits, and quietly recover unsafe exports from saved results. Preserve exact allocations for exhausted transient failures and provide export-only retry without rerunning the provider. Consolidates #14314, #14315, #14329, and #14334 while preserving the already-merged finalization label changes. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(daytona): clean up sandbox allocation after create failure (#13979)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages AI agents and their execution environments. > - The Daytona provider creates sandboxes before it returns a lease. > - Daytona can allocate a sandbox, then time out while waiting for it to start. > - The SDK throws without returning the allocated sandbox handle. > - Paperclip previously lost the resource identity and could leave a running sandbox behind. > - This pull request keeps an exact creation identity and deletes a matching failed allocation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related: #13882. Searches for Daytona create cleanup and orphan fixes found no duplicate for this path. **What happened?** In [Grok qualification campaign 36080870743](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36080870743), Daytona sandbox creation exceeded 300 seconds. No native runner or provider session started. The SDK threw, but an ownership-filtered provider lookup found the allocated sandbox still running. The disposable resource was then deleted separately. The original attempt and its failure remain retained. **Expected behavior** A failed create must retain enough identity to clean up an allocated sandbox. Cleanup must never delete another attempt's resource. If the provider cannot confirm cleanup during sandbox lease acquisition, the host must retain a durable cleanup record and retry the exact owned allocation after restart. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Have Daytona allocate a sandbox for an environment acquisition. 2. Make the SDK throw while waiting for startup, before it returns the sandbox handle. 3. Before this fix, acquisition fails without deleting the allocated sandbox. 4. The regression tests reproduce this failure and verify exact-owner deletion. **Paperclip version or commit** Observed at `1b0551bb7c8de3c54f4bee64dbe2c88328b3645e`. The same creation path exists on master; this fix starts from `efce9356b`. ## What Changed - Assign each cold create a unique provider name and creation-attempt label. - On create failure, look up that exact name and verify every ownership label before deletion. - Wait for provider deletion with bounded lookup and deletion calls. - Preserve the original create error after successful cleanup. Report both errors and the provider name when cleanup cannot be confirmed. - Treat a missing lookup after an uncertain create as unconfirmed cleanup: a delayed provider request might still create the sandbox. - Transfer only validated ownership fields through the acquire-lease RPC error; provider exceptions and arbitrary error data are not serialized. - Persist a pending-cleanup lease before the host retries deletion. Reuse the existing cleanup sweep and durable spool, retaining the original environment scope after its row is deleted. - Fence retries by company, environment, run, provider account, unique creation name, and every ownership label. Missing provisional-name lookups remain unresolved. - Journal an ownership-verified provider ID before host-driven deletion. Its absence then confirms cleanup after a lost deletion reply or final database update; failed journal writes block deletion. - Keep ownership labels separate from the mutable input Daytona modifies during create. - Report confirmed host-side deletion accurately while still rejecting the failed acquisition. - Add protocol, malformed-evidence, cross-scope denial, controller-restart, and deleted-environment regressions alongside the original bounded cleanup tests. ## Verification - SDK suite: 92 passed. Daytona plugin suite: 277 passed; six opt-in live tests skipped. Environment-runtime suite: 103 passed, then all four focused observation/recovery variants passed after adding a foreign-observation case. SDK and provider TypeScript checks and `git diff --check` pass. - Regressions failed before the respective fixes: missing durable ownership, misleading successful-cleanup message, and SDK mutation of the ownership labels. - Controlled real-Daytona proof at `d2ac1c95b32ca64daf039c0427137657f351c0e0`: create a real sandbox; inject an SDK failure and a failed immediate lookup; persist the validated ownership envelope; have a child journal the observed provider ID before deleting; deliberately drop its successful deletion receipt; reconcile absence from another fresh process and confirm it with a separate provider read. Passed, with no manual cleanup and zero model calls. The live proof uses an owner-only envelope file; actual host database/spool recovery is tested separately in the environment-runtime suite. - The preceding controlled attempt failed because the real SDK mutated the labels object. That failure is retained. The harness deleted its exact owned sandbox, and a fresh lookup confirmed absence. The fix copies the SDK input labels separately from the ownership snapshot. - [Repository CI](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/36095925399) passes on this exact head, with a clean 5/5 review. The unchanged Cursor remote-command test passed its one bounded rerun after a 10-second timeout; the same test had already passed on the combined tree. The original failure is retained. Earlier `199f0852` CI and immediate-deletion proof are retained, without being promoted to the new source. - Combined-source verification uses temporary PR #13990 against the Grok feature branch. No Docker or Rust build runs on the developer laptop. ## Risks Creation failures now add up to ten seconds for lookup and fifteen seconds for deletion confirmation. The SDK still owns the initial creation timeout. If a request materializes only after the failed lookup, its durable pending record remains eligible for later cleanup; a never-observed creation name is never reported deleted from a 404. A previously observed provider ID can be reconciled as deleted. The host and SDK must be deployed together. Durable handoff applies to plugin-backed sandbox lease acquisition used by heartbeat and runner login. Probe and custom-image interactive setup retain immediate cleanup and explicit failure reporting, but do not use this lease-recovery path. A worker crash before delivering the failure envelope still cannot be recovered through this mechanism. A cleanup error never returns a lease. Successful creation behavior is unchanged except for the provider name and ownership label. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with repository tools and code execution. The exact serving identifier and context-window size are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): prevent organization title flicker during plugin loading (#13854)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - The sidebar identifies the current organization. > - An optional plugin can replace this navigation surface. > - The built-in title appears before discovery and module loading finish. > - This pull request reserves the trigger until its owner is known. > - The organization name appears once, while failures retain built-in navigation. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #13832. Searched related pull requests and issues; no duplicate fix found. **What happened?** The organization switcher renders a provisional built-in title before an installed replacement loads. Unrelated plugin imports can also affect its loading state. **Expected behavior** Reserve the trigger with a neutral placeholder, then show the resolved navigation surface. Keep the built-in menu on failed or absent contributions. **Steps to reproduce** Install an organization-switcher contribution. Delay session, company, contribution, and module responses. Reload the page and watch the trigger through each stage. ## What Changed - Reserve the trigger through account, company selection, slot discovery, and module loading. - Distinguish failed session lookup from pending lookup so errors retain usable navigation. - Load and await only contributions matching the requested slots. Observe completion of imports started by another consumer. - Document loading behavior and add regression coverage for loading, failures, unrelated modules, and identity transitions. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` passed, including Rust checks. - `pnpm build` passed. - All 629 UI test files passed: 6,593 tests. The 42 focused UI/API/plugin tests also passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` and `git diff --check` passed. - `pnpm test:run` was also attempted. The broad local server run was stopped after recording skill-cache/channel fixture failures outside this diff (for example, runtime skill source status `missing` instead of `available`). The original cause is not established. All latest-head Linux CI gates pass; the complete UI suite and affected local checks pass. - Desktop (1440px) and mobile (390px) Chromium checks passed with real host components, dynamic module loading, and the built Account bundle. Delayed fixture responses produced exactly two title states: empty placeholder, then the resolved name. A slow refresh preserved the title and trigger dimensions; absent/failed plugin fallback and Escape dismissal passed, with zero uncaught browser errors. This is browser component integration, not a live signed-in tenant test. ## Risks A cold load displays a neutral placeholder until discovery completes. Absent, ambiguous, failed, and invalid contributions still use the built-in menu. No migrations or authorization changes. Scoped module loading changes when an unrelated contribution is imported; each surface loads its own matching modules. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-6, with reasoning, code execution, and browser verification. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(plugins): add an optional organization switcher slot (#13832)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Plugins can add UI surfaces to the board. > - Organization navigation is still fixed in the host sidebar. > - A distribution needs a supported way to supply its own organization menu. > - This pull request adds one optional React slot with host-owned navigation controls. > - The built-in menu stays available when the optional contribution cannot render. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Plugin SDK, server capability validation, and sidebar UI. **Problem or motivation** An installed plugin cannot replace the organization switcher without editing the host menu. Existing sidebar and overlay slots do not provide this replacement surface. **Proposed solution** Add an `organizationSwitcher` slot that requires `ui.sidebar.register`. Pass display state, an icon renderer, and navigation/logout callbacks. Keep the built-in menu for absent, ambiguous, missing, failed, or unsupported contributions. **Roadmap alignment** This keeps distribution UI in plugins and adds a small host contract. It does not add an account system or change company authorization. The maintainer requested this extension. Related prior menu changes: #12788, #10917, and #10850. No duplicate replacement-slot PR was found. ## What Changed - Add the slot to shared validation, SDK types, and server capability checks. - Wrap both sidebar menu variants with the optional replacement. - Resolve selection against the current account query before mounting, and reset replacement state on account or company changes. - Add host-specific component props and a fallback to `PluginSlotMount`. - Document the React-only contract and its trust boundary. - Report runtime-supervisor fixture startup details when CI readiness fails. ## Verification - `pnpm -r typecheck` and `pnpm build` passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates` passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/ui`: 6,580 tests passed. - Targeted manifest, replacement, and built-in menu tests: 26 passed, including the incoming-account selection regression. - Installed a local test contribution into an isolated server. CLI inspection reported `ready`. Browser checks covered the loaded production UI, keyboard dismissal, current-organization selection, and an expired remote session. Remote account responses were fixtures. - `pnpm test:run` was attempted. Its first server phase passed 8,323 tests but failed in 36 files due to embedded PostgreSQL startup and filesystem permission errors on this Mac. Later phases did not run. The current Linux CI run is green: 54 checks passed and two were skipped, including build, typecheck, and browser gates. See https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/actions/runs/35796722770. - The earlier runtime-supervisor readiness failure did not reproduce locally. The complete affected shard passed locally: 58 files and 843 tests. The six supervisor tests also passed on Node 24.21.0 with CI flags. Added fixture startup diagnostics for the selected Node executable and listener port. The affected Linux shard then passed all 843 tests. The original root cause remains unconfirmed; no production runtime behavior or timeout was changed. ## Risks - Plugin UI remains trusted same-origin code. Display props do not authorize account requests. - A replacement can change navigation behavior. The host retains the built-in menu when discovery or rendering fails and keeps logout/session cleanup host-owned. - No database migration. Existing menus and portfolio behavior remain available. - Local full-suite verification is limited by the environment failures listed above. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with reasoning, repository inspection, code execution, and browser testing. The runtime does not expose a more specific model ID or context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(plugins): support image catalogs and persistent application overlays (#13646)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Plugins extend the application without adding each integration to
Core.
> - A downstream image needs a way to supply prebuilt plugins.
> - Some plugin UI must stay mounted as users move between pages.
> - This change adds an image catalog and a persistent application slot.
> - Operators can upgrade or remove these plugins through their image
and configuration.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
**Subsystem affected**
Plugin packaging, activation and application UI.
**Problem or motivation**
The built-in plugin catalog is fixed in Core source. Downstream images
cannot add entries through an explicit catalog. Existing page slots also
cannot preserve a small application overlay across route changes.
**Proposed solution**
Read a bounded catalog of prebuilt plugins from the image. Verify its
files before importing manifests. Use the existing managed selection and
plugin lifecycle. Add an `appShellOverlay` slot with account and company
cleanup.
**Alternatives considered**
A downstream fork adds merge work. Script injection provides no plugin
lifecycle. A separate runtime download system adds a second distribution
channel.
**Roadmap alignment**
This extends the existing plugin system. Related PR #9006 covers runtime
install replication; this change covers immutable image contents. PR
#12555 covers CLI scaffolding. Neither provides this catalog or
application slot. The maintainer requested this work directly.
## What Changed
- Validate catalog identities, confined paths, package versions and
bundle hashes before importing code.
- Apply image selection to persisted plugin installs, including removal
and rollback. Adopt the verified image path from existing npm/local
installs and bind runtime worker/UI entrypoints to verified package
declarations.
- Mount application overlays in both UI shells. Preserve route state and
clear it on account, company and onboarding changes.
- Restrict service-worker offline storage/fallback to hashed public
assets in a separate cache namespace; exclude application HTML and
extension/API data, including after worker restart.
- Document the packaging contract, trust model and rollback
requirements.
## Verification
- Passed `pnpm -r typecheck`, `pnpm build`, and `pnpm
check:token-gates`. Affected server/UI typechecks and builds, plus token
gates, passed again after rebasing onto current master; the 124 focused
tests also passed after rebase.
- Latest focused verification: 124 tests in nine files passed for
catalog/reconciliation/loader, overlay lifecycle, Layout and
service-worker policy. The broader UI/shared/SDK run passed 7,204 tests
in 690 files with canonical `TMPDIR`.
- Real disposable Core/PostgreSQL: catalog install, selection removal,
0.1.0→0.1.1→0.1.0, same-version npm/legacy-path adoption, and
preservation of disabled status passed. Added permissions entered
`upgrade_pending`, withheld UI across restart, and activated only after
explicit operator enable.
- Real Chromium: desktop/mobile layout, route draft retention and
Escape/focus passed with mocked extension responses. A persistent
browser restart retained public hashed-asset offline fallback while
refusing seeded legacy/current private entries and legacy HTML.
- Full `pnpm test:run`: 12,539 passed; 17 failed across six existing
files, stopping later phases. macOS read-only directory renames fail in
runtime-skill-cache and company-skills-service; email tests require an
absent local AgentMail fixture. Native runner/comment-redaction passed
in isolation after temporary Rust setup; agent-conversations also passed
in isolation. No unrelated source was changed to hide failures.
- After rebase, two unchanged chat timing tests failed in CI and passed
locally in isolation. Their CI shard passed on its single retry. All
other current-head CI jobs passed on the initial run; review is 5/5 with
no unresolved threads.
- No live deployment or external plugin service was used.
## Risks
- Plugins are trusted code. The catalog detects packaging errors; it
does not authenticate an untrusted image builder.
- Invalid catalogs fail startup. Images must contain the catalog and
bundles together, with stable directories.
- A host older than this contract lacks the activation guard. Disable
added plugins and remove their configuration keys before reverting to
it.
- Offline navigation now returns 503 instead of replaying cached
application HTML. Only public build assets have offline fallback.
- Rolling back an unapproved permission change retains the approval
gate; review the current manifest and explicitly enable it. A reduced
permission set cannot establish prior approval or prior enabled status.
- Plugin data migrations need their own rollback policy. This change
retains installed records and does not reverse migrations.
## Model Used
- OpenAI GPT-6 (Codex), model ID `gpt-6`, with repository inspection,
code execution and browser verification. The runtime does not expose an
exact context-window size.

fix: cancel stalled sandbox startup without waiting for setup (#13352)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Sandbox runs prepare credentials and files before an agent starts. > - Stop must work during that preparation. > - ACPX registered cancellation, but did not handle it while a setup command was waiting. > - Daytona cleanup waited for that same command before stopping the sandbox. > - This change stops the run's sandbox first and requires proof before abandoning setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** Stop left a sandbox run active when remote credential setup stalled. The run kept its connection lease until the sandbox was stopped separately. **Expected behavior** Stop terminates the selected run's sandbox, prevents later setup from launching the agent, and lets run cleanup finish. It must not report success without proof from the provider. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start an ACPX agent in Daytona. 2. Hold a command during remote credential or file setup. 3. Select Stop before the agent starts. 4. Before this fix, cleanup waits for the held command and never reaches sandbox stop. Related: #13351 exposed this during connection acceptance testing. #12150 addresses scheduler load and session initialization limits, a separate startup problem. ## What Changed - Handle cancellation during ACPX sandbox preparation with a host-owned stop callback. - Pass an explicit active-work cancellation flag through environment cleanup. - Stop Daytona before draining setup commands. Keep normal graceful cleanup. - Require an exact run and lease termination receipt. Keep ownership of outstanding requests when stop cannot be verified. - Reject late setup work and defer sandbox resume until old requests settle. - Add regression tests and document the cancellation boundary. ## Verification - Red: both the stalled ACPX setup test and the Daytona cancellation test failed before the fix because Stop never reached the provider. - Green: adapter and Daytona suites passed, along with cancellation boundary and database-backed receipt/isolation tests. - Two real Daytona probes ran a five-minute setup command. Cancellation returned matching stopped receipts in 6.01 and 6.533 seconds. No later setup command ran. Both test sandboxes were deleted. - Repository typecheck and build passed locally. The full required CI suite passed, including all server/workspace tests, browser shards, Paperclip Runner verification, and canary packaging. The duplicate local full-suite run was interrupted after CI passed; it is not claimed as a completed local pass. - No UI changes. The live probe uses the actual adapter cancellation boundary and Daytona plugin; it is not a browser acceptance test. ## Risks - Provider stop failures remain unacknowledged. The adapter keeps ownership while its original requests remain active. - A retry can receive a settling-work error until old provider requests finish. - Cancelled sandboxes are stopped and retained under their existing provider expiry policy. - Local execution and cancellation after the agent turn starts keep their current behavior. - Other providers must return an exact termination receipt to permit early setup cancellation. No database migration. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-6 through Codex, with code execution and tool use. The exact deployment identifier and context window are not exposed in this session. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: continue conversations after confirmed remote runner stop (#13254)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - Users can stop a run and send another message on the same task.
> - Remote runners need evidence from their sandbox provider that
execution stopped.
> - Local process checks cannot prove that a remote process exited.
> - This pull request records provider stop receipts and uses them for
conversation admission.
> - New user messages can proceed after confirmed cleanup without
repeating interrupted actions.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
Refs #13237 and #13239. Related: #13163 covers app-restart recovery;
this change covers an explicit stop followed by a new user message.
**What happened?**
A stopped remote Claude ACP task kept its execution hold after Daytona
cleanup succeeded. Native runners also rejected remote process
identities and retained stale session cleanup gates. A message sent
during cleanup could stay deferred after the sandbox stopped.
**Expected behavior**
After the provider confirms that the old execution stopped, a new user
message starts a fresh turn. Pending user messages must not need another
message to trigger admission. Prior action outcomes remain recorded.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start a long-running task in Daytona with a legacy Claude ACP or
native ACP runner.
2. Cancel the run while its tool is active.
3. Send a new message immediately, or after cleanup completes.
4. Observe the execution hold despite the old sandbox having stopped.

feat(agent-login): resume an active login session and permit concurrent login terminals (#12861)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent authentication uses server sessions, plugin workers, and browser login panels. > - A page reload loses an active login session, and one worker permits only one login terminal. > - These limits cause lost work and prevent two owners from logging in through one worker. > - This pull request lets the browser resume active sessions and lets workers serve concurrent login terminals. > - The benefit is reliable login recovery with a bounded process-wide route limit. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** It improves agent credential login recovery and concurrent login terminal handling. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (multiple of the above). **Current behavior** A page reload loses the active login session. A shared plugin worker rejects a second login terminal. **Proposed behavior** The browser reads and resumes the owner's active session. A worker supports multiple login terminal routes under a process-wide ceiling. **Reason and benefit** Owners keep login progress after a reload. Two owners can log in through one worker without removing the route limit. **Breaking changes** None. The change adds owner-scoped read routes and changes login terminal concurrency. ## What Changed - Replace the single worker login route with maps keyed by host route and worker session identifiers. - Add a process-wide login route ceiling and release each reserved slot on every exit path. - Add owner-scoped active-session reads with consistent negative responses and private cache control. - Keep the device-login prompt while the session has an active public status. - Add a durable setup-token cancel fallback for a lost in-memory session. - Resume active sessions when the agent configuration or onboarding panel mounts. - Remove routine unmount cancellation and keep explicit Cancel behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/server test` — server route, service, and plugin-worker-manager suites. - `pnpm --filter @paperclip/plugin-sdk test` — worker RPC host suite. - `cd ui && npx vitest run src/components/AgentConfigForm.render.test.tsx src/components/OnboardingWizard.test.tsx`. - `cd ui && npx tsc -b`. - `tests/e2e/onboarding.spec.ts` — reload during login. - CI must pass on this pull request. ## Risks The change affects agent authentication and the sandbox-to-host boundary. Route cleanup must release every reserved slot. Owner checks must prevent cross-owner session access. Tests cover route cleanup, owner scope, reload recovery, and concurrent worker routes. ## Model Used Codex, OpenAI GPT-5, tool use and code review support. The implementation author owns the exact model details for the code changes. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have described the issue in-PR with the relevant issue-template fields - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runner): add remote execution substrate (#12638)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Paperclip Runner gives native runs a durable and governed execution path. > - The current native path runs on the control-plane host. > - Remote environments need an authenticated execution-target contract. > - The contract must not change direct adapters or enable new runtimes by default. > - This pull request adds the remote execution substrate and Daytona ingress. > - The benefit is a bounded base for later remote runner transport work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #12616. Refs #12352. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change touches runner transport, server orchestration, plugin contracts, and shared settings. **Problem or motivation** Native execution cannot resolve an authenticated runner ingress through a remote environment. The server also lacks one provider-neutral contract for remote execution targets. **Proposed solution** Add a default-off runner preview ingress capability. Add transport-neutral runner connectivity. Add remote execution target and lifecycle handling. Add a Daytona ingress implementation with redacted credentials. **Alternatives considered** A provider-specific server path would duplicate orchestration and authorization. A public endpoint without an environment contract would weaken the trust boundary. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the Cloud and Sandbox agents milestone. It also supports self-healing runs and governed tool access. ## What Changed - Added execution-target traits for local, SSH, and sandbox environments. - Added plugin RPC contracts for runner ingress endpoints. - Added authenticated Daytona preview ingress. - Added transport-neutral PRP outbound connections. - Added remote runner artifact verification and fail-closed provider selection. - Added bounded native session resume, cancellation, and lifecycle recovery. - Preserved Codex-only selection for fresh experimental runner starts. - Preserved all direct adapter execution and finalization paths. - Removed stale Pi provider-pack requirements that security review rejected. - Kept the rollout controls off by default. - Did not change pnpm-lock.yaml, Cargo, database migrations, or GitHub workflows. ## Verification - GitHub Actions will run the repository test, typecheck, build, security, and policy gates. - Focused tests cover ingress validation, redaction, execution targets, remote lifecycle, cancellation, resume, and legacy adapter selection. - Local tests were not run. The requested verification policy uses GitHub Actions for this series. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passes. - The diff contains 52 files. ## Risks - Remote execution crosses a trust boundary. - The implementation validates target capabilities, artifact digests, provider-pack pins, and connection metadata. - The feature remains default-off. - Fresh native selection remains Codex-only. - Existing direct adapters remain on the legacy path. - This PR does not yet make remote Codex runnable. The next PR adds the Rust WSS and TLS transport. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6. The work used high-reasoning agent mode, repository tools, GitHub tools, and parallel code-audit agents. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes: / Closes / Refs OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge |

feat(connections): add self-serve intent runtime (#12345)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agents need a governed way to request app connections during issue work. > - The catalog now describes the available providers and setup methods. > - A request must become a durable, company-scoped intent before an operator acts on it. > - This pull request adds that intent runtime across server, agent, CLI, and shared contracts. > - The benefit is a safe bridge from agent need to operator-approved setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #11965 This is stack 7 of 11. It depends on stack 6 and replaces another reviewable part of #11965. ## What Changed - Add connection intent types, validation, service logic, and routes. - Add agent runtime tools and CLI support for connection requests. - Add issue-thread interaction support for connection intents. - Add runtime, route, adapter, and contract tests. - Hold the final resolved-continuation row lock through asynchronous adapter preparation until an actual process spawn, so parking or reassignment cannot cross that boundary. - Report Hermes Gateway's first remote run request through the shared dispatch hook so the resolved-intent lock is released at the true dispatch boundary. - Revalidate the addressed user's live non-viewer membership and connection-management authority for every intent mutation, including OAuth completion. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts` - Result: 176 tests passed. - `pnpm build` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts` (32 passed; includes non-process dispatch lock-release coverage) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/connection-intents-service.test.ts -t "addressed-user mutation"` (1 passed) - `pnpm exec vitest run --project @paperclipai/server server/src/__tests__/tool-access-service.test.ts -t "binds OAuth callback completion to the initiating board session"` (1 passed) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter test -- src/gateway/server/execute.test.ts` (23 passed; includes dispatch-hook ordering and exactly-once coverage) - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/hermes-paperclip-adapter typecheck` ## Risks - A malformed intent could create an unusable operator request. - Validators and company checks reject invalid or cross-company requests. - The final continuation gate holds the issue row lock through adapter preparation until process or remote dispatch; later operator changes use the normal active-run interruption path. - The change does not add a database migration. > I checked `ROADMAP.md`. This stack continues the existing app connection work from #11965 and does not duplicate another planned item. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime model ID and context window were not exposed. The model used reasoning, tool use, and code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have linked the public source pull request with `Refs #` - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: add Grok device login to the sandbox login panel (#12469)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Paperclip uses adapters to connect agents and model providers to its control plane > - The sandbox login panel supports displayed-code login for selected adapters > - Grok users need the same login path and a private credential home for later runs > - This pull request adds Grok support to the shared device-login path and preserves the existing Codex path > - The benefit is one secure login flow for both adapters with company-scoped credential storage ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Agent or provider** Grok Local needs displayed-code login support in the sandbox login panel. **Why this adapter is useful** This change lets users sign in to Grok from the sandbox login panel. It also gives later Grok runs access to the stored credential. **How the agent is invoked** The Grok local adapter uses its login command through the shared displayed-code login flow. Later runs receive the managed home through `GROK_HOME`. **Additional context** The change uses adapter-scoped login lifecycle handling. It stores the credential in a company-scoped directory with mode `0700`, and it stores the credential file with mode `0600`. ## What Changed - Rename the shared device-login modules to adapter-neutral names. - Scope the shared login lifecycle to a closed adapter set. - Return the device-login URL that the provider prints. - Add the Grok prompt parser, login command, capability, and login panel entry. - Store the Grok credential in a private, company-scoped home directory. - Pass `GROK_HOME` to later Grok runs. - Add tests for the Grok adapter, the Daytona sandbox provider, the server login path, and the user interface. ## Verification - Run `pnpm vitest run packages/adapters/grok-local/src/server/adapter-auth-promotion.test.ts`. - Run the Grok adapter package suite. - Run the Daytona sandbox provider suite. - Run the server device-login suites. - Run the user interface suite. - Confirm the full CI suite passes. ## Risks The change extends shared login lifecycle code to another adapter. A regression could affect Codex login. The credential path uses explicit `chmod` calls to keep the directory at mode `0700` and the file at mode `0600`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The runtime used tool calls and code review support. The runtime did not provide a context-window value. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

Write mode-constrained inbound files directly to their target (#12320)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Adapter utilities transfer files between the host and an agent environment > - A sandbox target already provides the security boundary for inbound files > - The generic fallback adds a temporary file and a rename that do not add protection inside that boundary > - This pull request writes a mode-constrained inbound file directly to its target and applies the mode after the write > - The benefit is a simpler transfer path while host targets keep the strict pre-write mode rule ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** The inbound file-sync fallback for a mode-constrained file stages the file under a temporary name, applies the mode, and renames the file into place. **Subsystem affected** `packages/adapter-utils` and `packages/plugins`. **Current behavior** A sandbox target uses a temporary path before it receives the file. The host then changes the mode and renames the file to the target path. **Proposed behavior** A sandbox target receives the file at its target path. The host applies the mode after the write. A host target still applies the mode before the first byte. **Reason and benefit** The sandbox boundary already protects the target. The direct write removes an unnecessary staging path and rename. **Breaking changes** None. The directory path and outbound transfer path keep their existing behavior. ## What Changed - Write a mode-constrained single-file inbound transfer directly to the sandbox target. - Apply the mode after the direct write and keep the confinement check before post-upload commands. - Scope the protocol comment by transfer direction and preserve the strict host-target rule. - Keep directory inbound transfers and outbound transfers unchanged. ## Verification - Run the targeted unit suite for the changed package. - Verify the suite covers direct target writes, post-write mode application, and confinement rejection. - Run `tsc --noEmit` for both changed packages. - Review the full GitHub Actions check set after the PR opens. ## Risks - A sandbox provider that assumes a temporary inbound path could expose a behavior mismatch. - The confinement check remains before post-upload commands, which limits escape risk. - Host targets keep the pre-write mode rule, so host permission behavior does not change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5. This model assisted with Git operations, PR preparation, review coordination, and tool use. Context window size and reasoning mode are not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(duplex): run the Daytona sandbox callback bridge over Node HTTP/2 (#12120)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Sandbox providers carry agent work through controlled execution channels > - The Daytona callback bridge uses a bespoke line-framed protocol over its duplex channel > - The bespoke protocol adds framing work and does not use the Node transport that already supports multiplexed streams > - This pull request carries raw bytes across the channel, adds a Node HTTP/2 bridge, and selects it for Daytona > - The benefit is one authenticated, multiplexed callback session with queue_v1 as the bounded fallback ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** The packages/plugins Daytona provider and the shared duplex execution path. **Problem or motivation** The Daytona callback bridge uses a bespoke line-framed protocol over the provider duplex channel. This adds protocol work and limits stream handling. **Proposed solution** Carry raw bytes through the cross-layer channel. Add an authenticated Node HTTP/2 host server and sandbox client gateway. Select http2_v1 for Daytona and retain queue_v1 as the fallback. **Alternatives considered** Keep the current duplex_v1 protocol. This keeps the bespoke framing path and does not provide one HTTP/2 session for callback streams. **Roadmap alignment** ROADMAP.md lists Daytona under cloud and sandbox agents. This change improves the shipped Daytona provider path. **Additional context** The branch adds no dependency. Node 24 provides the http2 module. The host token check and canonical path parser remain the single dispatch path. ## What Changed - Carry raw Uint8Array chunks through the adapter, plugin, worker, runtime, and Daytona layers. - Encode bytes as base64 only across the JSON-RPC hop, because JSON has no binary type. - Add the bounded host HTTP/2 server and the in-sandbox HTTP/2 client gateway. - Authenticate every stream with the per-run bridge token before route work. - Parse the path once and reuse the canonical result for route and forwarding work. - Select http2_v1 for Daytona and fall back once to queue_v1 when the client preface is absent. - Add transport, session, stream, and fallback telemetry. - Mark HTTP/2 as the preferred transport and queue_v1 as the soft-deprecated fallback. ## Verification - `npx vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src` — 990 passed and 4 skipped. - `npx vitest run server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager-duplex.test.ts` — 32 passed. - `npx vitest run --config packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/daytona/vitest.config.ts` — 220 passed and 6 skipped. - `npx tsc --noEmit` in `packages/adapter-utils`, `packages/shared`, `packages/plugins/sdk`, and `server` — clean. - No `package.json` or `pnpm-lock.yaml` file changed. - The live Daytona test skips when `DAYTONA_API_KEY` is absent. - The root `npx tsc --noEmit` command has a pre-existing missing `packages/adapters/droid-local` reference on this branch and on `master`. ## Risks - The transport change affects several duplex layers and could expose byte-boundary errors. - A missing HTTP/2 client preface falls back once to queue_v1 and records `preface_missing`. - The host token check and canonical path parser must remain on the shared dispatch path. - The live Daytona test needs `DAYTONA_API_KEY` and does not run in this agent sandbox. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5, tool-enabled coding agent with repository inspection, GitHub CLI, and shell execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(login): use the login pseudo-terminal for Codex device login and de-Claude the shared channel (#12020)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Agent adapters use provider-specific login flows > - Codex device login needs a live pseudo-terminal (PTY), while the shared channel still uses Claude-specific names > - The old streamed-exec path does not provide the prompt transport that Codex needs > - This pull request moves Codex device login to the shared login PTY and removes the dead streamed-exec path > - The benefit is one controlled login transport with fail-closed capability checks and safer credential reads ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Codex device login used a streamed-exec path that did not provide the required prompt transport. The shared login channel also exposed Claude-specific names outside Claude code. **Expected behavior** The host selects a fixed login command from trusted adapter data. Codex login uses the provider login PTY. Providers without that capability fail closed. **Proposed solution** Use a server-controlled session home, create and validate it as a fresh 0700 directory, read credentials from one validated descriptor, and rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family. **Alternatives considered** Keep the shared login PTY as the single transport. Do not keep the removed streamed-exec path because it cannot provide the required prompt transport. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the planned login transport work. It does not add a separate roadmap item. ## What Changed - Route Codex device login through the shared login PTY transport. - Select the login command from a closed internal command key. - Carry a server-controlled session home through the launch contract. - Create and validate the session home as a fresh 0700 directory owned by the login user. - Read the credential file with descriptor-relative, no-follow path walking and final descriptor checks. - Gate the login route and run lease on the provider login PTY capability. - Rename shared channel names to the neutral login PTY family. - Remove the streamed-exec transport value, selector field, driver branch, and related tests. - Hide Codex login in the user interface when the provider lacks the login PTY capability. ## Verification - Server unit suites pass: 89/89. - Adapter-utils suites pass: 262/262. - Codex-local suites pass: 326/326. - Credential-read reader suite passes: 20/20. - Daytona login PTY suite passes: 30/30. - Device-login suites pass: 56/56. - TypeScript checks pass for server, adapter-utils, and UI. - GitHub Actions must pass after pull request creation. - Greptile review must reach 5/5 with no open P2 findings, recommendations, or follow-ups. ## Risks - Providers without a login PTY capability lose Codex login support by design. - The credential read rejects invalid ownership, mode, type, path, and size. - The launch-time sandbox directory race remains outside the threat model because the login runs inside the sandbox and a hostile sandbox already controls its credential. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code review assistance. The exact context window and reasoning mode are not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(daytona-duplex): chunk host-to-sandbox writes and make a transport close legible (#11986)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Paperclip runs agent work through adapters and sandbox providers > - The Daytona duplex path sends host input through a provider pseudo-terminal WebSocket > - Large messages exceed the provider limit, and a transport close can look like a process exit > - This pull request chunks UTF-8 input and carries transport-close state through the duplex path > - The benefit is reliable large input and accurate loss reporting ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What happened?** The Daytona duplex path sent a full input payload as one WebSocket message. A payload above the provider limit closed the channel. The wait path also mapped a non-numeric exit result to a process exit without exit data. **Expected behavior** The provider must receive large input as ordered UTF-8 chunks. A transport close without exit data must record `transport_closed`, while a numeric exit must record `provider_exit`. **Steps to reproduce** 1. Start a Daytona duplex session. 2. Send an input payload larger than 65536 bytes. 3. Observe that one message closes the provider channel. 4. End a session without a numeric exit code. 5. Observe that the loss reason reports a process exit. **Paperclip version or commit** Commit `1761e79ec9097c65d94f90a8ba20416f8ab718a6`. **Deployment mode** Built from source with the Daytona sandbox provider. ## What Changed - Add a shared UTF-8 byte chunker with a 32768-byte cap. - Route both Daytona pseudo-terminal write paths through the chunker. - Preserve multi-byte UTF-8 sequences across read-side chunks. - Carry an explicit `transportClosed` state through the worker and host wait paths. - Record `transport_closed` for a reason-less transport close and `provider_exit` for a numeric exit. - Keep orderly completion suppression for both exit paths. ## Verification - The Daytona plugin suite passes 194 tests. - The adapter-utils broker, codec, and telemetry suites pass 73 tests. - The plugin SDK duplex and worker RPC host suites pass 37 tests. - The server plugin worker manager duplex suite passes 78 tests. - The execution target sandbox and ACPX execute suites pass 257 tests. - TypeScript checks pass for adapter-utils, plugin SDK, server, and the standalone Daytona plugin. ## Risks The chunk size adds a loop for large input payloads. The 32768-byte cap stays below the provider limit. The optional loss field preserves compatibility for other providers. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, extended reasoning, tool use, and code execution. The runtime does not expose a separate context-window value. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox): add the duplex bridge broker, gated transport selection, and fixed observability (#11769)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Sandbox adapters provide controlled execution for untrusted provider environments. > - The sandbox channel needs one persistent duplex transport with strict host control. > - The transport must remain off unless the instance setting and provider capability both allow it. > - The host must detect loss, bound resource use, and expose only safe telemetry. > - This pull request adds the broker, gated selection, kill-switch wiring, fixed observability, and real-process proof. > - The benefit is safer sandbox execution with bounded failure behavior and inspectable transport results. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists for this change. The related pull requests are #11738 and #11750. **Problem or motivation** The sandbox duplex channel needs a host-controlled broker, strict transport gates, bounded provider input, and safe loss telemetry. Without these controls, a provider can cause replay, resource growth, unsafe endpoint selection, or data exposure through telemetry. **Proposed solution** Add a host broker with nested time limits, request limits, one-shot loss, and per-id deduplication. Select duplex transport only when the instance setting and provider capability both equal true. Assign the endpoint and nonce on the host. Reject invalid readiness data and use the file bridge on failure. Add fixed redacted telemetry and a real-process end-to-end test harness. **Alternatives considered** Keep the file bridge as the only transport. This avoids new channel behavior but does not provide persistent duplex operation for supported sandbox providers. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the Cloud / Sandbox agents section in ROADMAP.md. ## What Changed - Add the duplex bridge broker with bounded forward, response, and gateway wait budgets. - Bound concurrent requests, lifetime requests, and request-id bytes before retention or forwarding. - Select duplex transport only when both required gates are true. - Assign the loopback port and nonce on the host and enforce a liveness-only READY frame. - Fall back to the file bridge after invalid readiness, contamination, bind failure, or timeout. - Carry the kill switch through the server, acpx engine, and six local adapters. - Add fixed, redacted duplex telemetry with a provider allowlist. - Add a real-process end-to-end harness for readiness, round trips, loss, and teardown. - Add regression coverage for limits, loss, UTF-8 splits, concurrency, and telemetry dimensions. ## Verification - Adapter-utils, server, and Daytona typechecks pass locally. - Adapter-utils tests pass, including the codec, broker, execution-target sandbox, and real-process harness. - Server kill-switch tests pass. - Live Daytona tests pass with the required provider key and skip without that key. - The root pnpm-lock.yaml file has no diff. - The branch contains ten commits after origin/master. ## Risks - Duplex transport remains disabled unless both gates equal true. - A provider remains an untrusted boundary and needs least-privilege credentials and quotas. - The server telemetry recorder stays deferred; the default recorder does nothing. - A provider that pre-binds the host port causes a fail-closed fallback to the file bridge. - The change adds no database migration and changes no root lockfile. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5, exact model family GPT-5, large context window, reasoning, and tool use. The model assisted with Git handoff validation and PR preparation. The implementation commits came from the engineering worktree. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with Fixes: # / Closes # / Refs # OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub #NNN / github.com/paperclipai/paperclip URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. docs/... or fix/...) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge - [x] I searched the GitHub PR list for similar PRs and confirmed this is not a duplicate --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(build): enforce Node 24 across Paperclip (#11792)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Paperclip runs across the CLI, server, adapters, plugins, CI, and container images. > - These surfaces declared different Node.js versions from 20 through 24. > - A newer `@types/node` major can expose APIs that the supported runtime does not provide. > - Node.js 20 is no longer a suitable project baseline, and Node.js 24 is the current LTS line. > - This pull request sets Node.js 24.11.0 as one repository-wide baseline, adds a drift check, and gives users actionable startup guidance when their runtime is too old. > - The benefit is one clear runtime contract for development, release, installation, and published packages. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #2734 Refs #11727 Refs #739 ## What Changed - Require Node.js 24.11.0 or newer in all 42 package manifests and runtime checks. - Use Node.js 24 in GitHub Actions, Docker images, smoke images, sandbox setup, portable installs, and esbuild targets. - Align every direct `@types/node` declaration on `^24.0.0`. - Prevent Dependabot from opening major `@types/node` upgrades without a matching runtime decision. - Add `.nvmrc` and a CI policy check for Node version drift. - Update ACP version gates, tests, and user documentation for the new minimum. - Print a non-blocking warning on CLI and server startup when Node is unsupported, with remediation through a version manager or the documented downloaded `install.sh` workflow. - Deduplicate that warning when `paperclipai run` boots the CLI and server in the same process. ## Verification - `node scripts/check-node-version-policy.mjs` - `node --check scripts/check-node-version-policy.mjs` - `node --check cli/esbuild.config.mjs` - `node --check scripts/generate-npm-package-json.mjs` - `bash -n scripts/install.sh scripts/test-install-sh-docker.sh scripts/e2e-install-lifecycle.sh` - Parsed all 42 package manifests and confirmed `engines.node` is `>=24.11.0`. - `git diff --check` - `vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/sandbox-install-command.test.ts` passed with 3 tests. - `vitest run cli/src/node-version.test.ts` passed with 4 tests. - Directly exercised the shared warning helper for unsupported-version messaging and same-process deduplication. - The focused exe.dev suite could not resolve the locally unbuilt plugin SDK from this isolated worktree. A full offline workspace install was also blocked because the package-manager signature verifier requires registry access. The full suite was not run locally; draft CI performs a clean install and evaluates the wider impact. ## Risks - This is a breaking runtime change for users, plugins, and deployments that still use Node.js 20 or 22. - Published workspace packages will now produce an engine warning or failure in strict package managers on older Node.js releases. - Node.js 24 can reveal dependency, native module, Playwright, or agent CLI compatibility issues in CI. - The bootstrap installer now installs Node.js 24 when the current runtime is older than 24.11.0. - The portable sandbox fallback is pinned to Node.js 24.11.0 and depends on that upstream tarball remaining available. - Unsupported runtimes continue booting after a warning, so a later incompatibility can still fail at its point of use. - The CLI and server share the warning policy through the published `@paperclipai/shared` package; packaging checks must keep that subpath export available. - This PR does not commit `pnpm-lock.yaml` because repository policy assigns lockfile generation to CI. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex based on GPT-5. The exact deployment ID and context window are not exposed in this session. Reasoning, repository tools, shell execution, and GitHub tools were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox): add a duplex transport for Daytona behind a default-off kill switch (#11750)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is an open source app that manages AI agents for work > - Paperclip runs agents in local and remote sandbox environments > - A sandbox needs a bounded channel for commands and asynchronous input > - Daytona needs a real pseudo-terminal transport for this channel > - The sandbox gateway also needs a mode that handles channel loss safely > - This pull request adds the Daytona transport and gateway mode behind a default-off kill switch > - The benefit is a tested foundation for later transport selection ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (multiple of the above): sandbox providers, plugin SDK, server settings, and shared types. **Problem or motivation** The merged sandbox protocol has no runtime transport for Daytona. The generated sandbox gateway also has no duplex mode. A later transport-selection change needs both parts and a safe per-run gate. **Proposed solution** Add a Daytona `duplexCommandStream` transport over a raw pseudo-terminal. Add a generated gateway mode named `duplex_v1`. Add the `enableSandboxDuplexBridge` setting with a default value of `false`. Keep transport selection disabled until a later pull request. **Alternatives considered** Keep the protocol unused until the transport-selection change. This would delay provider tests and leave the gateway path without direct coverage. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the completed Roadmap item for cloud and sandbox agents. It extends the merged sandbox channel foundation in pull request #11738. **Additional context** The Daytona provider remains an untrusted boundary. Deployments must use least-privilege provider credentials and provider-side quota controls. Operators must name an owner for duplex telemetry retention before rollout. ## What Changed - Add the Daytona `duplexCommandStream` capability over a raw pseudo-terminal. - Add a launch wrapper that disables echo and newline translation for NDJSON frames. - Close channels on lease release, destroy, resume of a stopped worker, and worker shutdown. - Declare the capability in the Daytona manifest and set `PLUGIN_VERSION` to `0.1.5`. - Add the worker-to-host notification sink at `ctx.duplexChannel.data` and `ctx.duplexChannel.exit`. - Add the generated sandbox gateway mode `PAPERCLIP_API_BRIDGE_MODE=duplex_v1`. - Add channel-loss results of `409 outcome_indeterminate` and `503 bridge_unavailable`. - Add the per-run setting `enableSandboxDuplexBridge`, with a default value of `false`. - Add unit tests, generated-source codec tests, lifecycle tests, and a credential-gated live Daytona test. ## Verification - Daytona suite: 185 tests pass. - Adapter utilities: 754 tests pass and 4 tests skip. - Plugin SDK: 62 tests pass. - Shared package: 28 tests pass. - Server duplex tests pass. - Shared, plugin SDK, server, and Daytona TypeScript checks pass. - The live Daytona test passes 3 cases when `DAYTONA_API_KEY` is set. - The live Daytona test skips 3 cases without `DAYTONA_API_KEY`. - CI must run the full workspace typecheck, test, and build gates after PR creation. ## Risks - The Daytona control plane and pseudo-terminal remain untrusted boundaries. - The duplex gateway changes behavior only when the mode and per-run setting enable it. - A lost channel fails requests without replay, so callers must handle indeterminate outcomes. - The transport-selection change must require both `duplexCommandStream === true` and `enableSandboxDuplexBridge === true`. - The provider credential and quota limits need operator control before rollout. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code execution. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox): add opt-in duplex command-stream foundation (capability, protocol, bounded host route, frame codec) (#11738)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip provides a control plane for companies that run AI agents. > - Sandboxed agents need a safe execution path for persistent command streams. > - The existing callback transport does not provide a bounded, generic duplex route. > - The host must control capability access, route identity, protocol limits, and close behavior. > - This pull request adds an opt-in duplex command-stream foundation across the sandbox layers. > - The feature stays inert because no current provider declares the capability. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting (multiple of the above) **Problem or motivation** Sandbox command execution needs a persistent host-to-sandbox stream. The current callback bridge uses a file transport and does not provide this generic route. **Proposed solution** Add a fail-closed provider capability, generic worker protocol messages, a host-owned bounded route, cross-layer service mediation, and a versioned newline-delimited frame codec. **Alternatives considered** Keep the file transport and add feature-specific commands. This does not provide one reusable duplex contract or host-owned route bounds. **Roadmap alignment** This work supports the completed Cloud / Sandbox agents roadmap area and the safe autonomy goal in the product definition. **Additional context** The change passed a two-stage security review. The final code review verdict was approve after fixes for active-stream bounds and service-layer capability mediation. ## What Changed - Add the opt-in `duplexCommandStream` provider capability with fail-closed narrowing. - Add duplex open, write, stop, and close requests and data and exit notifications to the plugin worker protocol. - Add a host-owned route with bounds for chunk size, cumulative bytes, lifetime, protocol errors, pending requests, and pre-bind buffering. - Add close acknowledgement handling with worker retirement when the close remains unconfirmed. - Wire `openDuplexChannel` through the execution target, runtime service, and plugin worker. - Add a versioned frame codec with shared wire-compatibility vectors and split UTF-8 handling. ## Verification - `server/src/__tests__/plugin-worker-manager-duplex.test.ts` passes 18 tests. - `server/src/__tests__/environment-execution-target-duplex.test.ts` passes 11 tests. - `packages/adapter-utils/src/duplex-frame-codec.test.ts` passes 38 tests. - `server/src/__tests__/sandbox-capability-contract.test.ts` passes 15 tests. - Setup-token pseudo-terminal regression tests pass 47 tests. - Server TypeScript check passes. - Continuous integration will run the full required test, typecheck, build, and policy checks. ## Risks - Providers that opt into the capability must implement the complete worker protocol. - Route limit defaults can close a stream when a workload exceeds the configured bounds. - The capability remains disabled for current providers, so current production behavior does not change. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 (`gpt-5`), with tool use and code execution. The model reviewed and prepared this pull request from the supplied implementation and verification record. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: Claude login on the new-agent page before agent creation (#11347)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The Claude local adapter supports subscription login through a sandbox > - The new-agent page must show login before the user creates an agent > - Test results must not expose raw sandbox diagnostics or secret values > - This pull request adds the login UI to both Test lanes and closes the diagnostic boundary > - The branch also adds durable cleanup recovery for failed sandbox teardown > - Reusable sandboxes must retain both their recorded teardown configuration and a valid lifecycle path until destruction succeeds > - The benefit is a usable login flow with fixed public checks, redacted server logs, and recoverable sandbox cleanup ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related public work: [#9488](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/pull/9488) adds first-class recognition for `CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN` in headless and remote runs. Related public issue: [#2681](https://github.com/paperclipai/paperclip/issues/2681) requests Claude Code subscription support. This pull request adds the login transport and new-agent UI flow that those changes do not provide. **Subsystem affected:** Claude local adapter, server login probes, sandbox provider setup, cleanup recovery, and the new-agent UI. **Problem or motivation:** The Test lanes did not show the sandbox login panel in all supported cases. Test results also exposed raw probe diagnostics, and JSON escapes could end secret redaction early. **Proposed solution:** Surface the login capability through the bundled provider manifest. Prepare the same probe runtime in the ACP lane. Send diagnostics only to redacted server logs. Keep Test checks on fixed public messages. Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude and Anthropic hosts. Consume JSON escapes during redaction. Preserve failed sandbox cleanup state across retries and restarts, and prevent deletion from severing the lifecycle context of a live reusable sandbox. **Alternatives considered:** Keep raw diagnostics in Test checks or trust login URL text from the sandbox. Both choices increase information exposure. Keep separate probe behavior in the ACP lane. That choice would leave the two Test lanes inconsistent. ## What Changed - Surface the sandbox login panel on both Test lanes. - Reconcile the bundled Daytona plugin manifest so `supportsSetupTokenLogin` reaches the UI capability gate. - Prepare the ACP Test lane with the same probe runtime as the CLI Test lane. - Add the `claude_acp_login_probe_unavailable` warning when the ACP probe cannot run. - Send raw sandbox diagnostics only to redacted server logs. - Keep Test checks on fixed public messages in the ACP, managed-config, and CLI paths. - Normalize login URL hints to allowlisted HTTPS Claude and Anthropic hosts. - Redact JSON and escaped-JSON secret values, including escaped quotes and backslashes. - Preserve orphan cleanup records across provider failures, restarts, and unavailable plugins. - Atomically block environment deletion while a live reusable sandbox lease still depends on it. - Verify pending cleanup destroys plugin sandboxes with the provider configuration recorded on the lease, even after the current environment configuration changes. ## Verification - Head under review: `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241`. - Focused environment route/service/runtime coverage passes: 196 tests across 3 files. - `pnpm -r typecheck` passes. - `pnpm build` passes. - The full Vitest run completed with 4,754 passing and 28 failing tests. All 23 source-test failures reproduce unchanged on parent head `58cfe61a33191ce03d965d65085d26064b4888ba`; the other 5 are duplicate executions from stale `server/dist` output. The failures are unrelated macOS path/listener and scheduler-fixture failures, so there is no new bad commit for bisect to localize. - All required CI checks pass for the current head, including build, typecheck/release registry, all server and workspace shards, serialized server suites, canary, and e2e. - A fresh Greptile review for `506b7fa2d83c36bfa5fd722ee9d95b0c7431c241` reports 5/5, “safe to merge,” with no blocking failure remaining. ## Risks - A probe or redaction change could hide useful server diagnostics. - An allowlist change could reject a valid Claude login URL. - Cleanup recovery changes could affect provider teardown ordering. - An environment with a live reusable sandbox can no longer be deleted until the owning issue or execution workspace completes teardown. - The implementation keeps public Test messages fixed and sends detail to redacted server logs. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex — exact model ID: GPT-5; tool use and code execution enabled; extended reasoning enabled. The implementation author used AI-assisted development. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and documented the result - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation or confirmed no separate documentation change is needed - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(acp): stream Daytona sandbox agent output and remove the host output poll (#11049)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app that manages AI agents for work > - Sandbox providers let agents run in remote and isolated environments > - Daytona session commands need a path that sends agent output to the host without host polling > - Host polling adds delay and repeats provider output work > - This pull request adds typed execute.log notifications and a log sink for incremental output > - This pull request adds an optional ACP session stream with final-result replay protection > - The benefit is lower output delay while the default flags keep current behavior unchanged ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. The change spans the plugin SDK, Daytona provider, adapter utilities, and server execution services. **Problem or motivation** The Daytona ACP bridge polls a host output file while an agent command runs. This adds delay and can repeat work. The host also needs a safe route for provider output chunks. **Proposed solution** Add a typed `execute.log` notification with host-issued invocation correlation. Add an ordered log sink to the environment execute path. Add an optional ACP session-log path that parses newline-delimited JSON frames and removes the host output poll for that path. **Alternatives considered** Keep the output-file poll as the only path. This keeps the current behavior but does not provide timely output. The new path stays behind flags, so the existing path remains the default fallback. **Roadmap alignment** This change supports the shipped Cloud / Sandbox agents milestone in `ROADMAP.md`, including Daytona support. ## What Changed - Add the typed `execute.log` worker-to-host notification and company-scoped host route. - Add ordered `stdout` and `stderr` chunk delivery before the final execute result. - Add the Daytona session log sink and the optional ACP streamed session path. - Add monotonic frame handling so live and final output reach the host once. - Keep `useLogStream` and `streamAgentSessionOutput` off by default. - Add unit and integration coverage for the notification, execution target, runtime, and Daytona paths. ## Verification - Run adapter-utils tests: 445 tests pass locally. - Run server environment tests: 73 tests pass locally. - Run Daytona plugin tests: 131 tests pass locally. - Run TypeScript checks for shared, adapter-utils, and server. - Review the pull request checks after GitHub completes them. - All required GitHub checks pass on the current head. ## Risks The new paths change output delivery only when a feature flag enables them. The final execute result remains available for parsing and fallback. The main risk is a provider stream or frame-order error; the final-result parser limits that risk. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use and code execution. The runtime did not supply a context-window value. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes No operator documentation change applies because both new flags remain disabled by default. - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(plugin-daytona): persistent session model with plain command dispatch (#10941)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies > - One core subsystem runs agent work inside sandboxes > - The Daytona provider uses that path to run user commands > - The current one-shot model does not keep a shell alive across commands > - This pull request adds an opt-in persistent session model for Daytona > - The benefit is faster command dispatch with the same sandbox boundaries ## Linked Issues or Issue Description ### Subsystem affected Cross-cutting. This change touches `packages/adapters`, provider tests, span names, and sandbox command behavior. ### Problem or motivation The Daytona provider needs a persistent shell for repeated command dispatch. The old advisory wrapper path does not reach that goal. It also adds cost and removes the session speed gain. ### Proposed solution Add a `useSessions` driver flag. Keep it off by default. Open one Daytona session per lease when the flag is on. Send each user command into that session. Read stdout and stderr from the session logs endpoint. Run each command in a subshell so `exit` does not stop the shell. Remove the advisory `bwrap` wrapper path and its lease metadata. Add session setup and teardown spans. Keep a hard delete on teardown. ### Alternatives considered Keep the advisory `bwrap` wrapper. That path does not give a real persistent session. It also keeps extra command overhead. Keep a one-shot fallback for user commands. That would weaken the session model and hide a missing session case. ### Roadmap alignment This work fits the `Cloud / Sandbox agents` milestone in `ROADMAP.md`. It also supports the control plane goal of safe remote sandbox execution. ### Additional context The handoff verification reported `tsc --noEmit` clean and 119 Daytona unit tests passing. The handoff also reported a clean host span allowlist test and five expected commits on the branch. The security review gate remains required before merge. ## What Changed - Added an opt-in persistent session model for the Daytona sandbox provider. - Routed user commands through `executeSessionCommand` when sessions are enabled. - Removed the advisory `bwrap` command wrapper path and the lease metadata it used. - Added session lifecycle spans and span allowlist coverage. - Documented the leak bound in `DIRECTORY-CONSTRAINT-FINDINGS.md`. ## Verification - `tsc --noEmit` clean for the Daytona plugin, per handoff verification. - Daytona unit suite passes, with 119 tests, per handoff verification. - Host span allowlist test passes, per handoff verification. ## Risks - Persistent sessions can leak if teardown fails. - Session logs must keep stdout and stderr separate. - The flag stays off by default to limit rollout risk. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5, Codex, tool use enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(server): add explicit review verdict policies (#10931)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Issues use `in_review` to request a final decision from an authorized writer > - The server rejected an assignee agent that tried to close its own review, even when the issue had no independent-review rule > - This rejection stopped the default agent workflow and did not represent the configured execution-stage rules > - Paperclip needs an open default and explicit issue-level constraints for teams that require an independent or human verdict > - This pull request removes the unconditional rejection and adds `anyone`, `not_creator`, and `human_only` review policies > - The benefit is a working default path with opt-in, authenticated verdict controls ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #10635, #4429, and #10671. The related public work covers execution-stage independence, self-approval fallback behavior, and durable review paths. This change is distinct. It controls who can resolve an issue review verdict. It keeps configured execution stages active. ## What Changed - Added a nullable `review_policy` issue column. Null has the same meaning as `anyone`. The migration does not backfill existing issues. - Added shared create, update, response, and compact issue contracts for `anyone`, `not_creator`, and `human_only`. - Removed the unconditional agent self-approval rejection for `in_review` issues. - Added one reusable verdict-actor check for terminal status changes and pending interaction accept or reject actions. - Used the authenticated principal type for `human_only`. Agent keys and run tokens remain agent principals. - Used the latest transition into `in_review` to identify the requester for `not_creator`. - Added actionable 403 responses that name the policy, the allowed actor, and the next step. - Kept the configured execution-stage transition and signoff behavior. - Added focused contract, helper, status-route, interaction-route, and execution-stage regression tests. - Updated the implementation specification for the new issue field. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/issue.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-review-policy.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-stalled-review-decision-routes.test.ts --reporter=dot` passed: 42 tests. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` passed. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db typecheck` passed, including migration numbering and safety checks. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` passed. - `pnpm run typecheck:build-gaps` passed across server, CLI, plugin SDK/examples, plugin wiki, and UI. - `git diff --check origin/master...HEAD` passed. - SecurityEngineer review approved the authenticated-principal checks and accepted policy-relaxation tradeoff with no required changes. - Greptile reviewed the latest head at 5/5 with zero inline comments or follow-ups. - The latest-head GitHub rollup passed build, typecheck, server/workspace tests, serialized suites, canary, e2e, and external security checks. ## Risks - The migration adds one nullable text column. It has no default and no backfill. - `not_creator` reads the latest recorded transition into `in_review`. It denies the verdict when it cannot identify the requester. - Agents can change or relax `reviewPolicy` when they have issue write access. This is intentional for this issue-level control. - Null and `anyone` do not add a database query to the verdict path. - Configured execution-stage checks still run after the issue-level policy check. > This work aligns with the completed "Agent Reviews and Approvals" and "Enforced Outcomes" roadmap items. It does not add a new roadmap capability. ## Model Used - OpenAI Codex, GPT-5. The exact deployment ID and context-window size are not exposed to the agent. The run used reasoning, repository tools, code execution, and GitHub CLI access. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix(ui): use HTTP-safe clipboard copy everywhere (#10875)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Operators often open self-hosted Paperclip over plain HTTP on a LAN or private network. > - Browser Clipboard API writes are not reliable in that insecure context. > - Paperclip already has one shared helper with a legacy copy fallback, but many current copy actions bypass it. > - This pull request routes every core UI copy action and the first-party workspace-diff plugin through the shared helper. > - The benefit is consistent copy behavior on HTTPS, localhost, and plain-HTTP private deployments. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #3529. This change supersedes the stale prior attempt in #3531. Current master has more copy surfaces and a first-party plugin UI bridge that the prior branch does not cover. ## What Changed - Replaced direct Clipboard API writes and duplicate fallback implementations across the current core UI with `copyTextToClipboard`. - Added an HTTP-safe clipboard function to the plugin UI SDK and wired the host bridge to the same implementation. - Migrated the first-party workspace-diff plugin to the plugin SDK clipboard function. - Added unit coverage for native rejection fallback and plugin host delegation. - Added a source-level regression test that rejects new direct clipboard writes outside the shared implementation. - Documented the plugin UI clipboard function. ## Verification - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm exec vitest run ...` for 14 affected suites: 164 tests passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run tests/ui-clipboard.test.ts` in `packages/plugins/sdk`: 1 test passed. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm -r typecheck`: passed for 31 workspace projects. - `NODE_ENV=test pnpm test:run`: passed. - `NODE_ENV=production pnpm build`: passed. - `pnpm check:token-gates`: passed with all gates clean. ## Risks Low risk. Secure contexts still use the modern Clipboard API. Plain HTTP and rejected modern writes use the existing `execCommand("copy")` fallback. That API is deprecated, but it is the compatibility path required for insecure contexts. The change has no schema, API, or visual design effect. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, `gpt-5.6-sol`. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. Reasoning, tool use, repository editing, test execution, and GitHub CLI access were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(observability): give sandbox sync spans true wall-clock width (#10864)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip keeps company work visible and governed. > - Sandbox agents run serial sync work across worker and host boundaries. > - The current span path hid real wall-clock time for that sync work. > - The host needs safe timestamps if it wants true span width. > - This pull request carries worker timestamps, validates them, and records the real duration. > - The benefit is clearer operator visibility for sandbox sync work. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This touches `packages/plugins`, `server`, and the Daytona plugin test surface. **Problem or motivation** Sandbox sync spans opened and closed in one host call. The native width stayed near zero, so the real time spent in serial round trips was hard to see. **Proposed solution** Carry worker start and end times across the span record protocol. Validate the pair at the host boundary. Record the host span with the true duration when the pair is safe. **Alternatives considered** Keep the numeric duration only. That keeps the data, but it does not widen the span and it does not show the real wall-clock time. **Roadmap alignment** This fits the `Cloud / Sandbox agents` and `Artifacts & Work Products` areas in `ROADMAP.md`. I found no other roadmap item that covers this span-width gap. **Additional context** The host allowlist stays narrow. Unknown names still map to `sandbox.provider.other`. Invalid timestamp pairs still fall back to the synchronous path. Related public PRs: none found. ## What Changed - Added optional `startTimeMs` and `endTimeMs` fields to the `span.record` protocol. - Captured start and end times in the worker tracer and sent them to the host. - Validated host timestamps with finite, ordered, bounded checks before span reconstruction. - Extended the host allowlist to the sandbox sync command names. - Wrapped each inbound sync round trip in its own named span. - Added tests for the worker path, host boundary, host recorder, and Daytona sync flow. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugins-sdk test` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server test` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/daytona-plugin test` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server tsc --noEmit` still shows pre-existing `drizzle-orm` duplicate-declaration errors in this sandbox. The changed files do not touch those lines. - GitHub checks are green. - Greptile review is 5/5. - No open review threads remain. ## Risks - A bad timestamp pair can fall back to the synchronous path. - The host clock gate can reject spans if the pair is stale, reversed, or too large. - The new worker fields change the wire protocol, but the public plugin tracer contract stays the same. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5, tool-enabled. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes #` / `Refs #` or described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(issues): contain cross-issue agent side effects (#10837)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane that coordinates autonomous agent work. > - Agents need to collaborate on issues beyond their current assignment. > - Cross-issue comments and updates are useful, but an unbounded run can create cascading side effects. > - The control plane must preserve company-wide collaboration while containing each run's influence. > - Comment attribution must also show the responsible user and the acting agent in audits. > - This pull request adds run-bound cross-issue containment, attribution, and agent-class wake rules. > - The benefit is safer collaboration without restoring issue-assignee ownership restrictions. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **What existing behavior does this improve?** Agent-authenticated issue comments, updates, reopen behavior, and assignee wake routing. **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: server routes and services, shared contracts, database schema and migration, and implementation documentation. **Current behavior** An authenticated agent can collaborate across company issues, but one heartbeat run has no per-run side-effect boundary. Comment records also do not persist the responsible user separately from the acting agent. **Proposed behavior** Require a valid heartbeat run for agent cross-issue comments and updates. Audit each attempt and cap a run at 20 cross-issue effects. Keep the cap in log-only mode until it automatically changes to enforcement at 2026-08-11 00:00 UTC. Preserve same-issue writes. Use agent-class wakes for agent comments. Keep same-run completion comments from reopening completed work. Record the responsible user on agent-authored comments and activity. **Reason and benefit** Agents can collaborate on other issues without an assignment gate, while each run has an atomic and inspectable side-effect limit. Operators can identify both the acting agent and the responsible user. **Breaking changes** After 2026-08-11 00:00 UTC, the twenty-first cross-issue comment or update from one heartbeat run returns a containment error. Agent cross-issue writes without valid run context are rejected. The migration is additive and backfills existing agent-authored comment attribution where the source data is available. ## What Changed - Added an atomic per-run counter for cross-issue agent comments and updates. - Added audit events for allowed and rejected cross-issue effects. - Added the automatic log-only to enforcement flip at 2026-08-11 00:00 UTC. - Added responsible-user attribution to agent-authored comments, activity records, shared types, and validators. - Added an additive migration and migration coverage for existing comments. - Updated reopen, resume, and wake behavior so agent comments create agent-class wakes and same-run completion comments remain inert. - Updated the implementation specification and regression coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/cross-issue-influence-limit.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-attribution-audit-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/issue-comment-reopen-routes.test.ts packages/db/src/issue-comment-on-behalf-migration.test.ts` — 97 tests passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed, including migration safety checks. - `pnpm test:run` — server batch: 3,364 passed and 2 skipped; UI batch: 3,504 passed. One unrelated CLI doctor test warned because this agent runtime injects static AWS credentials. - `env -u AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID -u AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY pnpm exec vitest run cli/src/__tests__/secrets.test.ts` — 8 tests passed and confirmed the CLI failure was ambient-environment sensitive. - `pnpm build` — passed. ## Risks - The fixed enforcement timestamp changes production behavior automatically on 2026-08-11 00:00 UTC. Audit logs before that time provide rollout visibility. - The per-run counter serializes on the heartbeat-run row. This prevents concurrent attempts from racing past the cap but adds a small lock scope for cross-issue writes. - Existing comments can only be backfilled when their acting run or agent attribution is recoverable. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 in the Codex agent runtime. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. Reasoning, shell tools, code editing, and test execution were enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(observability): add provider OTel spans - cache-hit flag, plugin tracer, Daytona pack/transfer spans (#10764)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip uses pull requests to ship control-plane changes with review and audit. > - This change extends sandbox provider telemetry. > - The first PR added startup and exec spans. > - This PR adds provider spans for cache hits, plugin tracer flow, and Daytona file sync steps. > - The host must keep the trust boundary and reject unsafe span data. > - The result is fuller OTel coverage with bounded labels and safe parentage. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Problem or motivation** Sandbox provider telemetry lacks an explicit cache-hit signal, plugin span context, and file-sync pack and transfer spans. The current proxy for a cache hit is fragile. The plugin SDK also needs a safe tracer surface and a per-call parent context. **Proposed solution** Add an explicit `cacheHit` flag from the Daytona sandbox handle lookup. Expose `ctx.tracer` on the plugin context and pass a `traceparent` string with each call. Record provider spans on the host with allowlist clamping and capability checks. Wrap Daytona file sync pack and transfer steps in spans. **Alternatives considered** Keep the old `providerGetMs == 0` proxy. Reject that path because the cache-hit decision belongs at the handle lookup, not in a timing proxy. The host stays the trust boundary for worker span data. It clamps labels, rejects bad parent data, and gates the worker-to-host span RPC by capability. A security review completed before this PR opened. ## What Changed - Added an explicit `cacheHit` flag from the Daytona sandbox handle lookup. - Added `ctx.tracer` on the plugin context and a `traceparent` field in the per-call context. - Added host-side span recording with attribute clamping and capability checks. - Wrapped Daytona file sync pack and transfer steps in spans. - Added tests for the host trust boundary, the plugin tracer no-op path, and the Daytona span paths. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-daytona exec vitest run` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk exec vitest run` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run plugin-host-services environment-execution-target instrumentation plugin-worker-manager` - `tsc --noEmit` for server, plugin-sdk, and adapter-utils ## Risks - Span data now crosses the worker boundary, so the host allowlist and capability gate must stay strict. - The `traceparent` path must stay valid and host-owned. - Daytona file sync spans must not add new round trips. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues with `Fixes:` / `Closes:` / `Refs:` or described the issue in the PR body - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat: sync @-mentioned projects into remote sandboxes (confined sandbox transport, flag ON) (#10564)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The run layer must move project context into the sandbox that executes the agent > - Local sandboxes already stage referenced projects for @-mentions > - Remote confined sandboxes dropped the whole referenced set, so the agent lost needed files and paths > - This pull request keeps the confined sandbox transport aligned with the local behavior for referenced projects > - It does this behind a remote-only flag that defaults on, while SSH keeps the old drop-only path > - The benefit is that remote runs can read the same referenced project context that local runs already provide ## Linked Issues or Issue Description **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting. This change touches server orchestration, sandbox transport, and observability. **Problem or motivation** A run can @-mention another project. Local targets stage each referenced project and give the agent a path. Remote confined sandboxes dropped the full referenced set, so the agent could not read those project files or paths. **Proposed solution** Enable referenced-project sync for the confined sandbox transport behind `PAPERCLIP_MULTI_PROJECT_WORKSPACE_SYNC_REMOTE`, which defaults on. Keep the SSH transport out of scope and keep it dropping referenced projects. Repoint each referenced workspace hint at its staged `project-<projectId>` sandbox directory. Publish `PAPERCLIP_WORKSPACES_JSON` on the confined sandbox lane. Count each per-project remote staging failure as a `staging` failure in the requested-vs-synced metrics. **Alternatives considered** Keep the remote path drop-only. That keeps the gap open. Move the change into SSH too. That expands scope beyond the target transport and adds risk. **Roadmap alignment** No matching item in `ROADMAP.md` showed up in this review. **Additional context** The change lands in three commits. The first commit opens the gate for the confined sandbox transport. The second commit repoints the workspace hints and publishes the workspace map. The third commit records per-project staging failure data. ## What Changed - Opened remote referenced-project sync for the confined sandbox transport behind `PAPERCLIP_MULTI_PROJECT_WORKSPACE_SYNC_REMOTE`. - Repointed referenced workspace hints to the staged `project-<projectId>` sandbox directories and published `PAPERCLIP_WORKSPACES_JSON`. - Counted per-project remote staging failures as first-class `staging` failures in the requested-vs-synced observability. ## Verification - The pushed ref `refs/heads/feat/sync-referenced-projects-remote-sandbox` resolves to the authorized submit SHA. - `git log --oneline origin/master..origin/feat/sync-referenced-projects-remote-sandbox` shows exactly the three expected commits. - The handoff reports server typecheck clean, adapter-utils typecheck clean, and the listed unit tests passing. - The handoff also reports no open review comments and no Greptile score yet. ## Risks - The change touches authorization and sandbox path handling, so regressions could block remote runs or expose the wrong project context. - The new flag defaults on, so any bug in the remote path affects normal remote use. - SSH stays out of scope, so the two transport paths must remain distinct. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 via Codex. Tool use enabled. Context window not reported in this run. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox): declare and collect the advisory read-write intent (#10521)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for AI agent companies > - Sandbox providers move files between the host and the sandbox > - The runtime needs advisory data for which sync paths are writable > - The host already knows that intent when it prepares the sync map > - Daytona can record that intent for later use > - This pull request adds the advisory access field and collects writable paths > - The benefit is that later runtime work can use the data without changing current flow ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The description below follows the feature-request template fields. ### Problem or motivation An agent runs inside an ephemeral sandbox. Some sandbox paths keep agent changes; other paths do not. Today the runtime has no declared signal for which sync destinations the agent may change and keep. A later feedback wrapper needs this signal to give the agent real-time feedback when a write lands on a non-persistent path. ### Proposed solution Add an optional advisory `access: "rw" | "ro"` field to the sync file-mapping types. The host sets `rw` for the workspace, git-history, and asset destinations, and `ro` for referenced-project trees. An absent value defaults to `ro`. The Daytona provider collects the `rw` target directories into a per-lease writable set for later use. This change adds the metadata and the collection only. No execution path reads the writable set yet, so runtime behavior does not change. ### Alternatives considered Derive a static writable set in provider code. This alternative is weaker: the layer that authors each sync destination already knows the intent, so a per-operation declaration is more accurate and does not hard-code a path list. ### Roadmap alignment This is the first step toward an advisory sandbox feedback wrapper. The wrapper is best-effort and adds no security. The ephemeral sandbox stays the only boundary. ### Additional context The field is advisory metadata. It does not change the file transfer and adds no security. ## What Changed - Added an optional `access` field to the sync file mapping types. - Set the workspace, git history, and asset destinations to writable. - Set referenced project destinations to read only. - Added a writable set store in the Daytona provider. - Recorded the parent directory of each writable sync mapping during sync in. ## Verification - The handoff reports these checks before push. - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec vitest run sandbox-managed-runtime.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk exec tsc --noEmit` - `vitest run src/plugin.test.ts` in the Daytona package - `tsc --noEmit` in the Daytona package ## Risks - Low risk. - The new field is advisory. - The writable set store is best effort and in memory. - A cold store falls back to the workspace baseline. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5, tool use, code execution. ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used with version and capability details - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either linked existing issues or described the issue in the PR - [x] I have not referenced internal or instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [ ] I have run tests locally and they pass - [ ] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [ ] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [ ] I have considered and documented any risks above - [ ] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [ ] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [ ] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

refactor(sandbox): retire the dead noProfile flag from the exec path (#10461)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The sandbox exec path starts agent commands and passes runtime options to the server and plugin layers > - This path kept a noProfile flag after the exec wrappers stopped sourcing a login profile > - The flag no longer changed behavior, so it left dead API surface in the protocol and runtime helpers > - This pull request removes that dead flag from the plugin protocol, the server drivers, and the managed-runtime helpers > - It also updates the tests and points the agent runtime README at the sandbox requirements file > - The benefit is a smaller and clearer exec-path contract with no behavior change ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - No public GitHub issue exists. ### What happened? The sandbox exec path kept a `noProfile` field after the exec wrappers stopped sourcing a login profile. ### Expected behavior The plugin protocol, server drivers, and managed-runtime helpers should not expose or forward a dead field. ### Steps to reproduce 1. Run a managed-runtime command through the sandbox exec path. 2. Inspect the protocol payload and runtime helper inputs. 3. Observe that `noProfile` is present even though it no longer changes behavior. ### Paperclip version or commit `60c7da86fc7a6c1dbf37bbcd86e25ecaaff01607` ### Deployment mode Built from source (pnpm dev / pnpm build) ### Additional context This pull request removes the dead field, updates the affected tests, and updates the README note for the sandbox profile path. ## What Changed - Removed noProfile from the plugin protocol and the server exec-path call sites. - Updated the managed-runtime helpers to use the narrower exec-path contract. - Updated the affected tests and added the README pointer to SANDBOX-REQUIREMENTS.md. ## Verification - `git grep -n "noProfile" -- packages/ server/` returns zero matches. - `tsc --noEmit` passed for `@paperclipai/adapter-utils`, `@paperclipai/plugin-sdk`, and `@paperclipai/server`. - `command-managed-runtime.test.ts` passed: 22/22. - `environment-runtime.test.ts` passed: 24/24. ## Risks - Low risk. The flag was already a no-op. - A hidden external caller may still send the removed field. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5, tool-enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

perf(plugin-daytona): opt-in no-profile fast path for default-PATH execs (#10352)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies > - The Daytona adapter turns tasks into shell commands and manages execution overhead > - Many short-lived exec calls still pay for login-shell profile sourcing even when the binary already resolves on the sandbox default PATH > - That extra startup work adds latency on the hot path for repeated command execution > - This pull request adds an opt-in fast path that skips profile sourcing only when the caller explicitly requests it and the command does not need shell initialization > - The benefit is lower per-call latency for eligible commands without changing the conservative default behavior for commands that need the profile ## Linked Issues or Issue Description This change does not reference a public GitHub issue. It follows the same Daytona startup-speed work as merged PR #10335 and narrows the execution path for eligible commands while keeping the default login-shell behavior intact. ## What Changed - Added an optional `noProfile` flag to `PluginEnvironmentExecuteParams`. - Refactored Daytona login-shell script assembly so the profile and nvm sourcing block is omitted only on the explicit fast path. - Preserved environment prefixing, `cd`, shell quoting, `NONINTERACTIVE_GIT_ENV`, stdin handling, and `durationMs` behavior on both paths. - Added regression tests for the fast path omission, the preserved execution parameters, and the default profile-sourcing path. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/sandbox-provider-daytona exec vitest run src/plugin.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk tsc --noEmit` - Reverted the guard locally to confirm the two behavior tests fail again, then restored the change. ## Risks - If a caller opts into `noProfile` for a command that depends on shell initialization, the command can fail to resolve its binary. - The API comment and opt-in design keep that risk narrow; the default path remains unchanged. ## Model Used OpenAI GPT-5 (Codex tool-using coding agent) ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change (e.g. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox-providers): native providers honor postUploadCommands (Daytona executes; Kubernetes executes) (#10347)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the control plane for autonomous AI companies, so runtime handoffs have to preserve the exact behavior an agent asked for. > - The sandbox-provider layer is where uploaded files and follow-up commands become a real in-sandbox operation. > - The provider-delegable sync-in seam already exists from the prior PR; without this follow-up, native providers can still accept command-bearing uploads and silently drop the commands. > - That is a fail-open gap for native sandbox providers, because the file transfer succeeds while the intended post-upload work never runs. > - This pull request teaches Daytona and Kubernetes to execute `postUploadCommands` in order, inside the sandbox, after the files land. > - The benefit is consistent and safer sync semantics: native providers either run the commands as requested or fail fast instead of pretending the operation completed fully. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description This PR builds on the previously merged provider-delegable sync-in seam and closes the remaining gap for native providers that still dropped `postUploadCommands`. Problem: - A sync operation could include ordered `postUploadCommands`, but a native provider could finish the file upload and skip the commands entirely. - That creates fail-open behavior for command-bearing uploads, especially when the caller relies on the provider to execute the follow-up action in the sandbox. Proposed fix: - Execute `postUploadCommands` inside the sandbox after file placement. - Preserve the provided command order. - Fail fast on the first non-zero exit or timeout. - Keep command execution verbatim and confine any provided `cwd` under the workspace root. Related public PR: - Refs: #10340 ## What Changed - Daytona `performSyncIn` now executes ordered `postUploadCommands` through the existing `executeCommand` seam. - Kubernetes `performSyncIn` now executes ordered `postUploadCommands` through its streaming pod exec path. - Added workspace confinement for provided `cwd` values and defaulted missing `cwd` to the remote root. - Added tests covering the new post-upload command execution behavior in both provider packages. ## Verification - Latest validation recorded on the handoff branch: `@paperclipai/plugin-sdk` and `@paperclipai/plugin-kubernetes` typechecks passed. - Daytona Vitest: `63/63` passing in `plugin.test.ts`. - Kubernetes Vitest: `195/195` passing, including `file-sync.test.ts`. - `git log --oneline origin/master..HEAD` showed a single expected commit on the branch. ## Risks - Command execution semantics are stricter now, so malformed commands or a bad `cwd` will fail the sync instead of being ignored. - The change makes provider behavior more explicit, which can surface previously hidden failures in callers that assumed commands were optional. - Timeout behavior may differ slightly between providers, so the failure mode is intentionally fail-fast. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, GPT-5-based coding agent with tool use enabled. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(adapter-utils): provider-delegable syncIn seam with ordered post-upload commands (#10340)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The adapter/runtime layer has to move files into sandboxes safely and efficiently > - The current sync-in path needs a provider-delegable seam so providers can use their native upload transport when available > - The upload contract also needs ordered post-upload commands so extracted content can be finalized fail-fast after transfer > - The fallback path still has to preserve current behavior when the provider does not expose native sync verbs > - This pull request adds the contract and runtime seam for provider-delegable sync-in, plus the single-stream collapse flag > - The benefit is fewer round trips, a cleaner provider-owned upload path, and a compatible fallback for existing runners ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this change. The underlying feature request is described below in the repository's feature-request format. ### Problem or motivation Paperclip needs a sync-in path that lets each provider choose the best available upload transport instead of forcing the harness to orchestrate uploads the same way every time. The runtime also needs a way to describe ordered post-upload commands so providers can finalize extracted content fail-fast after transfer. ### Proposed solution Extend the sync contract with ordered post-upload commands, forward that contract through the plugin and environment runtime layers, and make client syncIn always available. When a provider advertises native sync verbs, the client should delegate to that transport; otherwise it should fall back to the existing tarball/write/extract behavior and then run the post-upload commands in order. ### Alternatives considered Keeping upload orchestration entirely host-side would avoid a contract change, but it would block provider-specific transport optimizations and keep the harness responsible for a path the provider can do more efficiently. A separate post-upload API would add another surface without improving the existing sync flow. ### Roadmap alignment This work aligns with the broader runtime and adapter roadmap because it improves provider integration without changing the external product model. It is an additive contract change that preserves backward compatibility for providers that do not expose native sync verbs. ### Additional context The fallback path still needs to preserve existing observable behavior, including command ordering, cwd confinement, and fail-fast execution. The single-stream progress flag is part of the same transport improvement so smaller writes can collapse to a single round trip when the runner supports it. ## What Changed - Added ordered `postUploadCommands` support to the sync operation contract and SDK mirror. - Plumbed the sync-in contract through the plugin and environment runtime layers. - Implemented a runtime client `syncIn` path that delegates to native provider transport when available, otherwise uses the generic tarball/write/extract fallback. - Preserved fail-fast execution of ordered post-upload commands in the fallback path. - Flipped the sandbox runner's single-stream stdin progress flag to collapse small `writeFile` operations to a single round trip. - Added and updated tests for contract forwarding, fallback behavior, cwd rejection, fail-fast behavior, and single-stream collapse. ## Verification - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk exec vitest run protocol.postupload.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk exec vitest run environment-sync-negotiation.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-utils exec vitest run command-managed-runtime.test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run environment-execution-target.test.ts` - Local typecheck and targeted suite runs reported in the handoff passed before PR creation. ## Risks - The new fallback path could diverge from the previous inline upload behavior if the tarball/extract contract changes. - Provider-native sync handling may expose provider-specific edge cases if a runner advertises sync verbs but does not fully honor the contract. - The single-stream flag changes transport behavior for small uploads, so regressions would likely show up as round-trip or upload failures. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex (GPT-5, tool-using coding agent). ## Checklist - [x] I have included a thinking path that traces from project context to this change - [x] I have specified the model used (with version and capability details) - [x] I have checked ROADMAP.md and confirmed this PR does not duplicate planned core work - [x] I have searched GitHub for duplicate or related PRs and linked them above - [x] I have either (a) linked existing issues with `Fixes: #` / `Closes: #` / `Refs: #` OR (b) described the issue in-PR following the relevant issue template - [x] I have not referenced internal/instance-local Paperclip issues or links (only public GitHub `#NNN` / `github.com/paperclipai/paperclip` URLs) - [x] My branch name describes the change and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(routines): expose activity gate API (#9438)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Scheduled routines provide recurring control-plane work without manual intervention > - The new activity gate can suppress scheduled runs when no external work occurred > - The core scheduler and database support landed without a public create/update contract > - Agents, operators, and managed plugins need validated fields plus discoverable semantics to opt in safely > - This pull request exposes the activity gate through routine APIs, revisions, plugin contracts, tests, and skill documentation > - The benefit is backward-compatible control over idle scheduled work without losing activity-triggered follow-up ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Refs #8534 ## What Changed - Added shared activity-gate policy and scope enums with create/PATCH validation. - Persisted activity-gate fields through routine creation, updates, revision snapshots, pipeline snapshots, and revision restores. - Defaulted legacy revision snapshots during restore and added regression coverage for pre-field snapshots. - Extended managed-plugin routine declarations, production reconciliation, and the SDK test harness to preserve non-default gate settings. - Added end-to-end API coverage for create/PATCH/list/detail round-trips, defaults, and invalid enum rejection. - Documented schedule-only semantics, activity windows, own-run/read-action exclusions, scopes, and an hourly quiet-night watcher example. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/routine.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-e2e.test.ts` - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/shared/src/validators/plugin.test.ts packages/plugins/sdk/tests/testing-actions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-managed-routines.test.ts server/src/__tests__/routines-service.test.ts -t 'activity gate|preserves declared activity gate settings|resolves routine agent and project refs'` - `pnpm exec vitest run ui/src/lib/workspace-routines.test.ts ui/src/pages/Routines.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/plugin-sdk typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - `pnpm check:token-gates` - GitHub CI: all final-head checks green; Storybook visual regression skipped by path rules. - Greptile: 5/5 with no unresolved review threads. ## Risks - Low risk: defaults remain `always` and `company`, preserving existing routine behavior and old revision snapshots. - Managed plugin manifests can now declare the same validated gate settings as the public routine API; omitted values retain core defaults. - Revision snapshots now include the new fields so policy changes are not lost or treated as no-ops during restore. > For core feature work, checked `ROADMAP.md`: this extends the existing Scheduled Routines roadmap item and does not duplicate a separate planned capability. ## Model Used - OpenAI GPT-5.5 via Codex CLI, with repository tool use and code execution; context-window size was not exposed by the runtime. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(sandbox): add task-scoped egress grants (#10155)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Confinement providers protect agent runs with default-deny network policies > - Kubernetes environments currently apply only provider-level, namespace-wide egress allowances > - Tasks that legitimately need GitHub or package registries therefore cannot request narrow access, while network failures do not explain the governing policy or how to request a grant > - This pull request adds issue-scoped egress grants that become workload-owned, run-label-selected policies and carries the effective grant through lease audit metadata > - The benefit is that internet-dependent work can run without enabling broad egress for every concurrent task, and denied requests point operators to the exact grant path ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public issue exists. Related but distinct: Refs #9944, which adds a provider-wide open-internet posture; this PR keeps provider defaults narrow and adds per-task grants. **Problem / motivation** Kubernetes sandbox egress is configured at the provider/tenant level. A task that needs to clone from GitHub or install from PyPI cannot request those destinations without changing the policy for every run in the tenant namespace. DNS/connectivity failures also surface as generic tool errors with no policy name or remediation path. **Proposed solution** Accept `executionWorkspaceSettings.networkEgress.allowFqdns` and `allowCidrs`, forward the setting through heartbeat environment acquisition, and create a workload-owned NetworkPolicy or CiliumNetworkPolicy selected by `paperclip.io/run-id`. Record the effective grant in lease activity/metadata, expose policy context through `PAPERCLIP_NETWORK_EGRESS_*`, and append the grant path to likely policy-related stderr failures. **Alternatives considered** A provider-wide open-internet switch is broader than required and is already covered by #9944. Mutating the existing namespace policy would leak each task's destinations to other concurrent runs. Standard Kubernetes NetworkPolicy cannot enforce FQDNs exactly, so standard mode uses the existing hardened public-IPv4 TCP 80/443 fallback only for the selected run; Cilium mode remains exact. **Roadmap alignment** This extends the existing cloud/sandbox agent roadmap capability with task-level control-plane policy and does not duplicate a planned roadmap item. ## What Changed - Added validated `networkEgress` grants to issue execution workspace settings and forwarded them through environment lease acquisition. - Added workload-owned, run-label-scoped NetworkPolicy/CiliumNetworkPolicy resources for task FQDN/CIDR grants. - Added lease audit metadata, sandbox policy environment variables, and actionable network-denial stderr guidance. - Added focused parser, manifest, policy creation, and denial-message tests plus Kubernetes provider documentation. ## Verification - `pnpm -C packages/shared exec vitest run src/validators/issue.test.ts` — 27 passed. - `pnpm -C packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/kubernetes test -- --run test/unit/network-policy.test.ts test/unit/cilium-network-policy.test.ts test/unit/scoped-network-egress.test.ts` — 21 passed. - `pnpm -C server exec vitest run src/__tests__/execution-workspace-policy.test.ts` — 15 passed. - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-plugin-environment.test.ts server/src/__tests__/environment-runtime.test.ts` — 26 passed. - `pnpm --dir packages/db build && pnpm --dir packages/shared build && pnpm --dir packages/plugins/sdk build` — passed, including migration safety checks. - `pnpm --dir packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/kubernetes typecheck && pnpm --dir server typecheck` — passed after refreshing the worktree's frozen offline dependencies. - End-to-end cluster validation of the `build-cython-ext` benchmark remains for CI/maintainer Kubernetes infrastructure; the focused tests assert `github.com` and `pypi.org` produce a policy selected only by the granted run. ## Risks - Standard NetworkPolicy cannot express FQDNs, so an FQDN grant allows hardened public IPv4 TCP 80/443 for that run; use Cilium mode for exact hostname enforcement. - The new field is additive and absent by default, so existing runs keep the current provider-level policy. - Workload owner references garbage-collect scoped policies with the Job/Sandbox; a cluster/controller that ignores owner references could temporarily strand a policy that still selects no future run ID. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Feature PRs that overlap with planned core work may need to be redirected — check the roadmap first. See `CONTRIBUTING.md`. ## Model Used OpenAI Codex, exact model ID `gpt-5.6-sol`, high reasoning mode, tool use and code execution. The runtime did not expose a context-window size. `docs/...`, `fix/...`) and contains no internal Paperclip ticket id or instance-derived details - [x] I have run tests locally and they pass - [x] I have added or updated tests where applicable - [x] I have updated relevant documentation to reflect my changes - [x] I have considered and documented any risks above - [x] All Paperclip CI gates are green - [x] Greptile is 5/5 with no open P2s, recommendations, or follow-ups - [x] I will address all Greptile and reviewer comments before requesting merge --------- Co-authored-by: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

fix: deliver plugin agent session turns and replies (#10137)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip manages agent execution through heartbeat runs and adapter-specific sessions > - Plugins can open an agent session and send a conversational message through the host service > - The host previously stored that message only in opaque wake payload metadata, so local adapters never saw it in their CLI prompt > - The host also forwarded run log chunks but did not expose the persisted final assistant text as the session reply > - This pull request defines both sides of the session contract in the shared wake renderer and terminal run event > - The benefit is that local adapters receive the actual conversational turn and plugins receive one canonical final reply ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Related context: Refs #629 and Refs #2880 describe adjacent `claude_local` final-text visibility failures. They concern issue comments rather than plugin agent sessions, but exercise the same need for a canonical persisted run summary. Companion consumer change: paperclipai/paperclip-gateway#3. Bug description: - **Observed:** calling the plugin host's `agents.sessions.sendMessage()` with `prompt: "hello"` woke a `claude_local` agent, but the generated CLI prompt omitted `hello`. On completion, the session emitted log chunks and a generic `Run completed` done event, so callers could not reliably recover the assistant reply. - **Expected:** the prompt becomes the user-supplied conversational turn for that agent session, and the successful terminal event carries the run's canonical final user-facing assistant text. - **Reproduction:** create a plugin agent session for a local adapter, call `sendMessage()` with a non-empty prompt, inspect the adapter prompt and terminal session event. - **Affected baseline:** `b517b887a` on `master`, local trusted deployment with plugin host services and `claude_local`; `codex_local` shared the wake-rendering gap because both use the common Paperclip wake prompt renderer. ## What Changed - Added a typed `agentMessage` wake payload rendered by the shared adapter prompt path used by `claude_local`, `codex_local`, and other local adapters. - Labeled session content as user-supplied and explicitly non-authoritative: it cannot expand authorization, permissions, task scope, or company boundaries. - Preserved ordinary heartbeat behavior by omitting the section when no agent-session message exists. - Added canonical `finalText` to terminal heartbeat status events from the already-persisted run summary/result/message. - Defined successful `AgentSessionEvent.message` as the canonical final user-facing reply (or `null`) and forwarded it on the terminal `done` event. - Added host, wake-renderer, normal-heartbeat, and terminal-reply regression coverage. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run packages/adapter-utils/src/server-utils.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-agent-session-message.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-status-payload.test.ts server/src/__tests__/plugin-agent-sessions.test.ts server/src/__tests__/heartbeat-run-summary.test.ts` — 87 passed. - `pnpm -r typecheck` — passed across all 31 workspaces. - `pnpm build` — passed. - `pnpm test:run` — 2,860 passed, 1 skipped, 3 unrelated failures: two existing macOS temp-path alias assertions (`/tmp` vs `/private/tmp`) in workspace branch-containment tests and one reproducible auto-port runtime-service adoption failure. The same three failures reproduce when the two files run alone; none touch this change. - Live Slack verification intentionally remains operator-gated because it requires rebuilding/restarting the host. ## Risks - User-controlled chat text now reaches the model prompt, which is an intentional prompt-injection surface. The renderer labels it as untrusted conversational content, while the existing plugin/session company checks and caller authorization remain unchanged. - `finalText` is added to company-scoped heartbeat status events. It is derived from the same persisted summary/result/message already used for run comments; no raw stdout or secrets are added. - Consumers that ignore the new field remain compatible, and successful runs without usable final text still emit `message: null`. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. fix(plugin-sdk): thread companyId through configChanged + fail-closed cross-tenant guard (LOOA-687) (#10096)
## Thinking Path
> - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for
work.
> - First-party **plugins** run as isolated workers spawned by the host
`plugin-loader`, reading company-scoped config through a governed
`ctx.config.get(companyId)` channel.
> - The host→worker `configChanged` RPC carries `{ config, companyId }`,
but the SDK dispatch dropped the scope — `onConfigChanged(newConfig)`
was companyId-blind by design — so a **proactive** worker kept a single
worker-global config.
> - #10092 added a startup replay that fans out **every** stored
company's config through `configChanged`. With no deterministic
ordering, a plugin configured for more than one distinct company ends up
running as whichever DB row was delivered last.
> - That is a latent cross-tenant identity/secret confusion bug: one
company's bot token could be applied to another company's traffic.
> - This pull request threads `companyId` through `onConfigChanged` and
adds a fail-closed cross-tenant guard at the SDK layer, so a
single-tenant worker can never silently collapse to a second company's
config.
> - The benefit is that the config-delivery class is fixed at the SDK
boundary — before any genuinely multi-company proactive plugin ships —
without changing today's single-tenant behavior.
## Linked Issues or Issue Description
No public GitHub issue — describing in-PR (hardening / latent security):
**Latent cross-tenant config collapse.** The worker-side `configChanged`
dispatch forwarded only `config` and dropped `companyId`, so a proactive
plugin kept a single worker-global config. #10092's startup replay
delivers every configured company's config sequentially with no `ORDER
BY`, so a plugin with configs for more than one distinct company would
apply a nondeterministic last-write-wins global config (one tenant's
credential applied to another's traffic).
- Builds on and must merge after #10092.
- Not exploitable today: the only proactive consumer (the chat gateway)
has single-tenant config rows, so last-write-wins is a no-op. This is a
hardening pre-condition before any multi-company proactive plugin ships.
## What Changed
- **Thread scope through:** `onConfigChanged(newConfig, context)` with a
new exported `PluginConfigChangeContext { companyId }`. Backward
compatible — the second arg is optional; existing single-arg
implementations are unaffected.
- **Fail-closed cross-tenant guard** (`worker-rpc-host.ts`): a
single-tenant plugin that receives `configChanged` for a second,
distinct company with a *different* config is rejected with the new
`PLUGIN_RPC_ERROR_CODES.CROSS_TENANT_CONFIG` instead of silently
overwriting the applied tenant's config. Idempotent replays of the
*same* config under a different scope row remain allowed.
- **Opt-in `multiCompanyConfig: true`** on the plugin definition for
plugins that genuinely serve multiple companies from one worker (keying
per-company state on `context.companyId`); the guard is bypassed for
those.
- **Deterministic `ORDER BY companyId`** on `registry.listConfigs`, so
the startup replay binds a single-tenant worker to a stable company
across restarts.
- **Loader visibility:** a `CROSS_TENANT_CONFIG` rejection is logged at
`warn` (was best-effort `debug`) so the misconfiguration is surfaced.
- **Regression test**
(`packages/plugins/sdk/tests/worker-rpc-host.test.ts`): two distinct
companies delivered via the startup-replay path fail closed and stay
bound to the first company; an idempotent same-config replay under a
different scope row is allowed; a `multiCompanyConfig` plugin receives
per-company config with the correct `context.companyId`.
## Verification
- SDK `tsc --noEmit`: clean.
- SDK vitest `worker-rpc-host.test.ts`: 7/7 pass (incl. 3 new). The
two-distinct-company case **fails against pre-fix code** and passes
after the fix.
- #10092 embedded-postgres `plugin-config-startup-delivery.test.ts`: 3/3
pass (unaffected by the new `ORDER BY`).
- Full server `tsc --noEmit` against this SDK: clean.
## Risks
- **Low functional risk.** The second `onConfigChanged` arg is optional
and existing implementations are unchanged. Today's single-tenant
gateway keeps working — idempotent same-config replays are explicitly
allowed, so the go-live is preserved.
- **Behavioral shift on misconfig:** a genuinely multi-company plugin
that has NOT opted into `multiCompanyConfig` now fails closed
(`CROSS_TENANT_CONFIG`) rather than silently collapsing to one tenant.
This is the intended safer default; opt in with `multiCompanyConfig:
true` to serve multiple companies from one worker.
- **Not in scope (residual).** Per-company workers/connections for a
genuinely multi-company gateway increase resource use and are tracked
separately (ties into the #10092 fan-out/timeout follow-up). This PR
fixes the class and fails closed; it does not build multi-tenant
connection management.

feat(plugin-sdk): interactions/approvals respond + attachment read capabilities for the chat gateway (#10066)
Adds the remaining 5 plugin capabilities + 7 worker→host RPC methods (interactions read/respond, approvals read/respond, attachment read) needed by the Slack chat gateway plugin (v0.5.0) to pass manifest capability validation and load. - Security review: PASS (LOOA-642) after the viewer-role privilege-escalation blocker (LOOA-648) was fixed on this branch (requireActiveHumanMember now rejects viewer on impersonation write-paths, matching assertCompanyAccess). - CI: Build, Typecheck, all server suites (3/3 + serialized 4/4), workspaces, e2e shard 2/2, and all security scanners (Snyk/Socket/Superagent/Greptile/security-review) green. - One e2e flake (signoff-policy 'non-participant cannot advance stage') is unrelated: it exercises execution-policy stage advancement (routes/issues.ts, untouched by this PR) and failed on a heartbeat_run_events FK race + 409 checkout conflict. Unblocks LOOA-629 (Slack gateway go-live) and the interview-ask feature. Co-Authored-By: Paperclip <noreply@paperclip.ing> |

feat(runtime): opt-in sandbox file-sync lifecycle hooks (API + provider docs) (#10013)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is an open-source AI-agent management platform; agents run tasks inside sandboxed environments (Daytona, Kubernetes, E2B, etc.) > - The control-plane ↔ sandbox file-transfer path flows through the `environmentExecute` seam in `protocol.ts` — the only verb available to plugins — which forces a base64-over-exec chunked loop for every file move: workspace files, assets, Codex home sync > - This transport is correct and safe, but it bypasses provider-native bulk/streaming APIs (Daytona `uploadFiles`, K8s `FastUploadInterceptor` / volume mounts), leaving significant throughput on the table for large workspaces > - The right fix is an opt-in seam extension: providers with faster native transfer declare two optional verbs; providers that do not opt in stay on the existing fallback with zero code or behavior change required > - This PR adds the first layer of that extension — two optional verbs (`environmentSyncIn` / `environmentSyncOut`) in the plugin SDK, the runtime plumbing to prefer the native path for the two clean destroy-then-replace cases, and a doc for the contract > - The core correctness invariant is byte-identical fallback: if no provider opts in, execution is exactly what ships today; `assertSyncOperationsConfined` enforces host-side path confinement for providers that do opt in > - No provider advertises the verbs yet → zero production behavior change; future PRs wire up Daytona and K8s providers against this contract ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue exists for this feature. Description follows the `feature_request` issue template: **Subsystem affected:** packages/plugins — plugin system; packages/adapter-utils — adapter runtime; server/ — EnvironmentRuntimeService **Problem or motivation:** Sandbox file transfers currently always use a base64-over-exec chunked loop regardless of what the underlying provider supports. For workspaces larger than a few MB this becomes the dominant wall-clock cost of every sandbox run, and it bypasses bulk/stream APIs that providers like Daytona already expose natively. **Proposed solution:** Add two optional, opt-in plugin hooks — `onEnvironmentSyncIn` / `onEnvironmentSyncOut` — to the plugin SDK. When a provider defines both hooks and both are advertised via the existing `supportedMethods` negotiation, the runtime prefers the native path for the two clean destroy-then-replace transfer cases; all other cases fall back to the existing byte-identical base64 transport. **Alternatives considered:** An unconditional verb would require every provider to implement or stub the verb. The opt-in / `METHOD_NOT_IMPLEMENTED` pattern (already used by `environmentExecute`) preserves backward compatibility with zero provider changes required. **Roadmap alignment:** Consistent with the ✅ "Cloud / Sandbox agents" and ✅ "Plugin system" milestones; extends the plugin seam rather than adding control-plane-level logic. **Additional context:** Searched open pull requests and issues for duplicate sandbox file-sync / native-transfer work; none found. ## What Changed - **`packages/plugins/sdk`** - `protocol.ts`: two new optional `HostToWorkerMethods` — `environmentSyncIn` / `environmentSyncOut` — plus generic `SyncOperation`, `SyncFileMapping`, and `SyncOutcome` types - `define-plugin.ts`: optional `onEnvironmentSyncIn` / `onEnvironmentSyncOut` fields on `PluginDefinition`; worker advertises each verb only when its hook is defined (else `METHOD_NOT_IMPLEMENTED`, mirroring `environmentExecute`) - `worker-rpc-host.ts`: route new verbs to plugin hooks - `index.ts`: re-export new public types - **`packages/adapter-utils`** - `command-managed-runtime.ts`: expose optional `syncIn` / `syncOut` on `CommandManagedRuntimeRunner` (available only when both verbs are advertised); add `assertSyncOperationsConfined` host-side path-confinement guard - `sandbox-managed-runtime.ts`: `SandboxManagedRuntimeClient` gains optional `syncIn` / `syncOut`; orchestrator prefers native path for default-provision asset inbound and workspace-download-into-fresh-dir outbound; all other paths keep the existing base64 fallback - `sandbox-file-sync.test.ts` (new): 234-line characterization suite — native-opt-in branch, fallback branch, `assertSyncOperationsConfined` escape-path rejection, `followSymlinks` → tar `-h` - `command-managed-runtime.test.ts`: negotiation + native-sync + confinement tests - **`server/src/services/environment-runtime.ts`**: `EnvironmentRuntimeService` delegates to `syncIn` / `syncOut`, gated on advertised support - **`server/src/services/environment-execution-target.ts`**: minor typing fix alongside the new verbs - **`doc/plugins/SANDBOX_FILE_SYNC_HOOKS.md`** (new): documents the full contract — opt-in / no-op guarantee, operation ordering, provider-may-tar, atomicity, `followSymlinks`, secret modes (0600, no window), path confinement, `operationId` opacity, resource bounds, shell-quoting ## Verification ```bash # SDK suite pnpm --filter packages/plugins/sdk test # Adapter-utils suite (includes new sandbox-file-sync characterization tests) pnpm --filter packages/adapter-utils test # Expected: 255 pass / 4 skip # Type-check across affected packages pnpm --filter packages/plugins/sdk typecheck pnpm --filter packages/adapter-utils typecheck # Server changed-file spot check: cd server && npx tsc --noEmit --skipLibCheck 2>&1 | grep -E "environment-(runtime|execution-target)" | head -20 ``` Key behavioral invariant to spot-check: with no provider opting in (the current state), run any sandbox task and confirm file-transfer behavior is byte-for-byte identical to what the pre-PR code produces. The characterization tests assert this at the unit level. ## Risks - **Zero production risk today**: no provider advertises `environmentSyncIn` / `environmentSyncOut`, so the new code paths are unreachable in production; all real traffic stays on the existing base64 fallback - **Path confinement**: `assertSyncOperationsConfined` rejects any `targetPath` that escapes the declared root — this is the primary security boundary for future providers. The test suite covers escape-path rejection - **Atomicity**: the contract delegates atomicity to providers; the doc explicitly calls out that directory-level ops are not guaranteed atomic - **Secret transport**: credential assets (e.g., Codex `auth.json`, directory mappings) continue to use the existing tar path — they do not go through the new verbs in any current provider > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(mcp) [split 2/8]: add governed access contracts (#9557)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - Governed MCP access spans contracts, runtime enforcement, adapters, UI surfaces, and operator verification > - The parity reference PR #9534 is too large for effective automated or human review > - The feature therefore needs a linear stack whose individual diffs stay below the 100-file review limit > - This pull request is split 2/8 and focuses on database schema and shared governance contracts > - The benefit is a standalone, testable review boundary while preserving byte-for-byte parity at the top of the stack ## Linked Issues or Issue Description - Related parity reference: #9534 - Problem: The governed access model needs additive persistence and synchronized shared types before server enforcement can compile. - Proposed solution: Adds migrations 0148–0169, tool-access and Smoke Lab schema, shared types/validators/gallery helpers, and the minimal compile-required contract consumers identified by boundary testing. - Alternatives considered: keeping #9534 as one 403-file review, or rewriting the feature to manufacture seams; both were rejected in favor of path extraction plus compile-driven boundary moves. - Roadmap alignment: this advances the existing governed MCP/tool-access work already represented by #9534; it does not introduce a separate roadmap initiative. - Stack position: base branch is `pap10341-split/01-demo-servers`. - Merge policy: merge bottom-up, in order, only after the complete eight-PR stack has been reviewed and the top-of-stack parity gate remains empty. - Requested review: QA for migrations/validators; Greptile on every PR. ## What Changed - Adds migrations 0148–0169, tool-access and Smoke Lab schema, shared types/validators/gallery helpers, and the minimal compile-required contract consumers identified by boundary testing. - Keeps this PR below 100 changed files and independently typecheckable. - Preserves the final tree from #9534 when combined with the other seven stack levels. ## Verification - `pnpm typecheck` — passed, including migration numbering and safety checks - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/db test` — passed - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/shared test` — passed ## Risks - Migration or contract mistakes could affect every upper layer; all migrations are additive/idempotent and compile consumers are included in this boundary. - Stack risk: merging out of order can expose incomplete layers; mitigate by following the documented bottom-up merge policy. - Parity risk: later edits to an intermediate branch can drift from #9534; mitigate by re-running the empty top-of-stack diff before merge. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. feat(secrets): add user-specific runtime secrets (#8825)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - Agent runs often need provider credentials, API tokens, and other environment-bound secrets. > - Company-level secrets work for shared credentials, but they do not model values that should differ by human operator. > - Without a user-scoped model, a run can dispatch without knowing whether the responsible human has supplied the needed value. > - Paperclip also needs run attribution to make those user-scoped runtime checks deterministic and auditable. > - This pull request adds user-specific secret definitions, per-user values, environment bindings, responsible-user attribution, and runtime resolution gates. > - The benefit is that teams can define the secret once, let each user provide their own value, and block runs before dispatch when required user secrets or active definitions are unavailable. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description Refs #224 Refs #6057 This PR implements user-specific secret support as a core secret-management capability rather than a one-off adapter setting. It is related to existing public work on company secrets UI and runtime secret refs, but is distinct because the value is owned by the responsible user and resolved at run dispatch time. Related PR search before opening found existing secrets work such as #1550, #8256, #8614, #8634, and #8647; none of those add the full user-secret definition/value/runtime gate covered here. ## What Changed - Added user-secret definitions and per-user "My secrets" values, keeping stored values out of access metadata. - Added `user_secret_ref` environment bindings and UI affordances to pick them alongside existing secret refs. - Added responsible-user runtime resolution so user-secret refs resolve against the human responsible for the run. - Added pre-dispatch missing-secret gates so runs fail before adapter dispatch when required user values are absent or definitions are inactive. - Added low-trust allowlist hardening for user-secret runtime access. - Added issue, routine, run, and agent API key responsible-user attribution and fail-closed dispatch behavior when attribution cannot be resolved. - Added denial-copy mapping so responsible-user authorization failures surface as actionable run outcomes instead of opaque setup failures. - Added OpenAPI documentation for the user-secret routes. - Rebases cleanly on current `master`; migrations were renumbered incrementally as `0128_user_specific_secrets`, `0129_agent_api_key_responsible_user`, and `0130_run_responsible_user_invariant` after upstream `0126`/`0127` migrations. - Removed previously committed local design screenshots so the PR contains code/docs/tests only. ## Verification - PASS: PR head `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6` is based on `paperclipai/paperclip:master`. - PASS: `git diff --check` - PASS: `git diff --name-only public/master...HEAD | rg '^(pnpm-lock\\.yaml|\\.github/workflows/|screenshots/)' || true` produced no files. - PASS: migration journal audit confirmed unique indexes through `130` with tail entries `0126_issue_comment_derived_attribution`, `0127_environment_custom_images_instance_scoped`, `0128_user_specific_secrets`, `0129_agent_api_key_responsible_user`, and `0130_run_responsible_user_invariant`. - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server typecheck` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-responsible-user-invariant.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-active-run-output-watchdog.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-stale-queue-invalidation.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-workspace-finalize-branch.test.ts src/__tests__/issue-monitor-scheduler.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-comment-wake-batching.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-retry-scheduling.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-accepted-plan-workspace-refresh.test.ts src/__tests__/heartbeat-plugin-environment.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/low-trust-red-team-routes.test.ts` - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/secrets-service.test.ts` (55 tests) - PASS: `pnpm vitest run server/src/__tests__/secrets-routes.test.ts server/src/__tests__/secrets-service.test.ts` (89 tests after final Greptile cleanup fixes) - PASS: `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/server exec vitest run src/__tests__/heartbeat-issue-liveness-escalation.test.ts` (17 tests after the final rebase CI fix) - PASS: focused server Vitest batches covering heartbeat recovery, project env, plugin env, routines, low-trust, pipelines, monitors, watchdog, and stale queue paths. - PASS: GitHub checks are green on `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6`, including Typecheck + Release Registry, Build, General tests, serialized server suites, e2e, Canary Dry Run, verify, security checks, and Greptile Review. - PASS: Greptile Review completed successfully on `2527febd106bcf3ca264ca0da7fca491084192d6` with Confidence Score 5/5, and GraphQL review-thread audit returned zero unresolved non-outdated threads. ## Risks - Runtime behavior now depends on a run having a correct responsible user; missing or incorrect responsibility assignment can block runs before adapter dispatch. - `user_secret_ref` bindings intentionally expose metadata without values, but UI/API callers may need to handle the new binding kind explicitly. - External secret providers and IAM policies are not automatically provisioned by this PR; operators still need to configure provider-side access for non-local vaults. - The PR is broad across db/shared/server/UI/runtime paths, so release validation should include both API and UI secret workflows before merge. - The migration renumbering is intentionally incremental after upstream migrations; the branch migrations use guarded column/table/index/constraint creation so users who tested the older draft numbering should not hit duplicate DDL for the existing objects. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Show live descendant status in inbox rows (#8876)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work > - The inbox is where operators quickly scan which issues are active, blocked, or waiting for attention > - A blocked parent can still have active descendant work, but the inbox previously depended on only loaded rows to infer that state > - That made collapsed or partially loaded issue trees look more stuck than they really were > - This pull request carries live descendant summary data through the issue list API and inbox UI > - The benefit is a more accurate blocked-inbox signal, so operators can distinguish truly stalled work from blocked parents that still have live child activity ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue was found for this exact inbox descendant-status polish. Feature request fields: **Subsystem affected** Cross-cutting: `server/`, `packages/shared`, plugin/MCP API surfaces, and `ui/` inbox rendering. **Problem or motivation** Inbox rows need to show when blocked or collapsed parents still have live descendant work, even when the live child row is not loaded in the current client tree. Without a server-provided descendant summary, a parent can look stalled even though active work continues below it. **Proposed solution** Expose an optional live descendant count on issue list results, request it from inbox views, and use it to render covered blocked status and live-below indicators. Keep the field opt-in so other issue list callers keep their existing payload shape and query cost. **Alternatives considered** Relying only on client-loaded subtree state was ruled out because it misses collapsed or unloaded descendants. Always returning the count was also avoided because most list callers do not need this extra summary. **Roadmap alignment** This is scoped operator-visibility polish for the existing inbox. It does not duplicate a named `ROADMAP.md` milestone. **Additional context** The recursive summary query is guarded against parent cycles, and the UI still falls back to loaded subtree live counts when server summary data is absent or stale. ## What Changed - Added optional `includeLiveDescendantSummary` support to issue list contracts, SDK surfaces, MCP tools, routes, services, and tests. - Added `liveDescendantCount` to issue list results when requested. - Updated inbox and blocked-inbox queries to request live descendant summaries. - Updated inbox row status rendering so blocked parents with live descendants show covered blocker treatment without duplicating the live-below chip. - Hardened live descendant summary traversal against parent cycles and preserved the loaded-subtree fallback path for blocked inbox rows. - Added focused tests for the API parameter, service behavior, helper logic, cycle handling, and inbox UI query/rendering behavior. ## Verification - `pnpm exec vitest run server/src/__tests__/issue-list-assignee-filter-routes.test.ts ui/src/lib/inbox-live-descendants.test.ts ui/src/components/IssueColumns.test.tsx ui/src/components/BlockedInboxView.test.tsx ui/src/pages/Inbox.test.tsx` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/ui typecheck` - Rebased cleanly onto current upstream `master` before pushing. - Confirmed the branch diff does not include `pnpm-lock.yaml` or `.github/workflows/*` changes. ## Risks Low to moderate risk. The new descendant count is opt-in on list requests, but it adds query work when the inbox asks for it. The recursive traversal now tracks visited ancestors to avoid cycle failures. The UI uses the server count as a supplement to existing loaded-tree state, so stale or absent counts fall back to the prior behavior. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR. Add reusable sandbox custom images (#8794)
## Thinking Path > - Paperclip is the open source app people use to manage AI agents for work. > - A growing part of that work runs in sandboxed environments rather than on the operator's local machine. > - Today sandbox providers can start fresh workspaces and run probes, but they do not have a shared contract for capturing and reusing prepared sandbox state. > - Operators need a way to set up tools, credentials, and project dependencies once, then reuse that prepared image for later agent runs. > - This pull request adds reusable sandbox custom images across the provider contract, server runtime, and board UI. > - It also keeps probes and sandbox copy flows aligned with pre-authenticated/custom-image environments. > - The benefit is faster, more reliable sandbox runs without repeatedly rebuilding the same environment setup. ## Linked Issues or Issue Description No public GitHub issue was found for this change. Inline feature request follows. ### Problem or motivation Sandboxed agents need reusable prepared runtime state so repeated runs do not require manual setup every time. Operators often need system packages, CLIs, SDKs, dependency caches, credentials, and project tooling available before an agent can work productively. ### Proposed solution Add a provider-level custom-image capability, server-side setup/capture lifecycle, Daytona/fake provider support, and board UI controls for creating, testing, selecting, and deleting custom images. ### Alternatives considered Leaving this as provider-specific setup outside Paperclip would keep the control plane blind to image state and would not give agents consistent environment metadata. Re-running setup commands for every lease is simpler, but slower and less reliable for interactive or credentialed setup. ### Roadmap alignment Checked `ROADMAP.md`; this aligns with the Cloud / Sandbox agents roadmap area and does not duplicate any related public issue or PR found by search. Additional context: - Subsystem affected: cross-cutting (`packages/db`, `packages/shared`, `packages/plugins`, `server`, `ui`). - Duplicate search: searched GitHub for `sandbox custom image` and `sandbox template environment`; no related public issues or PRs were found. ## What Changed - Added custom-image shared types, validators, constants, API paths, and database schema/migration. - Added server services/routes for custom-image templates and setup sessions, including runtime cleanup and provider metadata handling. - Extended plugin/sandbox provider capabilities for interactive setup, template capture, and template deletion. - Implemented custom-image support in the fake sandbox provider and Daytona provider. - Updated environment runtime/config handling so active custom images flow into leases, probes, and agent execution. - Added board UI controls and API client support for custom-image setup, capture, selection, status, and error states. - Hardened sandbox copy/probe behavior for insecure clipboard contexts and pre-authenticated sandbox images. - Added targeted coverage across shared validators, DB schema, server routes/services, provider plugins, adapter probes, and UI flows. ## Verification - `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --ignore-scripts` - `pnpm vitest run packages/adapters/claude-local/src/server/test.probe.test.ts packages/adapters/claude-local/src/server/test.ts packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.remote.test.ts packages/adapters/codex-local/src/server/test.ts` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-claude-local typecheck` - `pnpm --filter @paperclipai/adapter-codex-local typecheck` - `pnpm vitest run packages/db/src/environment-custom-images-schema.test.ts packages/shared/src/environment-custom-images.test.ts packages/shared/src/validators/plugin.test.ts server/src/__tests__/environment-custom-images-service.test.ts server/src/__tests__/workspace-runtime.test.ts packages/plugins/sandbox-providers/daytona/src/plugin.test.ts ui/src/pages/CompanyEnvironments.test.tsx ui/src/pages/CompanySettings.test.tsx` - `pnpm -r typecheck` - `pnpm build` - `rm -rf packages/db/dist && pnpm test:run` - Public-safety scan of the final diff found no internal Paperclip issue links, private instance URLs, or real secret patterns. ## Risks - Adds a database migration and new environment runtime tables, so migration ordering and rollback need care. - Provider implementations may differ in how reliably they can capture/delete images; unsupported providers surface capability-gated UI states. - Custom-image state can contain operator-prepared tooling and credentials inside the provider image, so providers must enforce their own access controls and cleanup semantics. - Broad surface area across shared contracts, server runtime, plugins, adapters, and UI means CI and Greptile review should be watched closely. > For core feature work, check [`ROADMAP.md`](ROADMAP.md) first and discuss it in `#dev` before opening the PR.
